It’s very worth going through it in time, we were in a bit of a hurry and we felt that we didn’t enjoy it as much as we would have liked, but because if I feel that it is something expensive the ticket.
We were also unlucky to go on Sundays, so there were a lot of people everywhere, which made it very difficult to find parking in some areas. I still think it's a very nice place worth visiting.

Much of the 17-Mile Drive is like driving around a big subdivision. Until you get to the coast, there is not much to see. It's scenic for sure, but you can drive other areas of the Monterey Pinensula for free to see similar coastline.

This is a great way to see the coast. Google Maps didn't do a great job of getting us to the starting point, but once we found it, we paid the entrance fee and got a brochure. The paper map in the brochure was helpful in that it numbered the stops, so between that and the road signs, we were able to follow the drive around the coast. We saw tons of sea lions at Bird Rock. The entirety of the drive had great scenery with the ocean and the golf courses.

Breathtaking sights. Obviously something not to pass up when you visit Monterey. One of the best sunsets I've seen.

I've been coming to the Monterey Peninsula for decades, but finally embarked on this journey. When you pay at the gate, you are given a map highlighting the coastal sites. We decided to take a detour and to head into the magnificent homes. We stopped at one that was for sale...for $15,500,000. We passed on it. Will your life have less meaning were you not to do this? No. This whole coastal area, for which you are not charged, is lined with beautiful shoreline and vegetation. But if you want the whole Carmel experience, it is worth doing at least once.

With Seals , Sea Lions ,Otters as well as outstanding beaches you have it all in this drive .If you are a golf fan a stop at Pebble Beach is a must . The lone Cypress standing alone on the rock is something else to view along the way . There are plenty of stops along the route so make the most of them and most important thing is to take plenty of time .

Take your time and drive along this impressive route. We were able to see seals and sea otters and pelicans diving for fish. The scenery was unbelievable. So glad we took the time out to visit.

We fell on a foggy day...so not all the views and stops were with good sight. But we did enjoy the lovely shoreline and animals of the area.

I went on this drive with fairly low expectations and enjoyed it much more than I anticipated. There are multiple audio-tour apps you can download to your phone which enhanced by experience. There are multiple stops along the drive where you can take in the sights. I'd recommend binoculars for a better view of the wildlife. In addition, I would allocate at-least 2 hours for this trip so you can take your time and enjoy each site.

… I can see better use for my $11.25, the City of Pebble beach makes enough money from golf In My Not So Humble Opinion. Yes, the trees are beautiful, and whatever glimpses of the water you see, great, but this is coastal California: the beauty is all over Route #1, and even more places…

Well worth a visit. We were fortunate enough to take a day trip along the coast and got to see the 17 Mile Drive by coach. Views were stunning over the coastal road. Set within an affluent area with marvellous mansions. We also got to stop off and see the Lone Cypress, (the famous tree) which gave good photo opportunities too!

What amazing views and scenery, and if you're a golfer an experience of a lifetime. Would definitely recommend anyone doing this tour.

Absolutely cannot miss this on your trip to Carmel. There are several beach stops along the way where you can park for as long as you like and walk on the beaches. Amazing wildlife views, you'll see pelicans, seals, dolphins, and other wild birds as well as otters. Each beach has different types of sand and views making it an exceptional experience. You can spend hours at each beach or just a few minutes. A photographers dream. You pass along the amazing homes that sprawl for acres.

Ho hum....i don't think this is worth the fee to drive the loop. There are PLENTY of other places along Hwy 1 to stop to enjoy the views that are way less crowded.

We rented e-bikes for this, which was amazing. It would also be great by car. It is absolutely gorgeous. For any golf enthusiasts, seeing such iconic, beautiful courses is a treat.

Make sure your download the audio app program before you leave your hotel. We did not get the app to work, at all. Very disappointed, as we had previously used this app for our Lake Tahoe tour last Thanksgiving and it was wonderful. In spite of this, the drive was gorgeous.

this is a must do when in the area! the views are excellent and photo ops abound while driving along the coast! well worth the stop for sure!

we took this drive after a visit to the aquarium and lunch - its $11 per car and totally worth it. Mesmerizing vistas, gorgeous cliffs jutting into the ocean, crashing waves, golf courses, fantastic mansions. Scenic drives dont get better than this. Lots of pull out spots for fantastic picture taking. Dont miss this drive

Enjoyed the drive along the coastal part of the 17 miles. Be prepared for a cool, windy day unless you are there in late August through October 1. Saw spooky trees and seals.

Really enjoyed the drive stunning scenery and chance to see Sea Otters. Amazing to see all the famous golf courses and probably the closest we will get to the US open cup

Stopped at several vista spots. Some had bathrooms and picnic tables. Lots of places to get to nice beaches. Stopped at Pebble Beach for ice cream and lounged in comfy white Adirondack chairs. Would not call this a "must do" but it was nice.

This is a great trip to take and just enjoy God's beautiful creation. You can take as much time as you want to complete the trip. If you love the ocean, this is a must for you.

This is a good trip to take to experience the wonderful ocean views in the area. There are also good views of the stunning golf courses. You’re charged just under $12 to enter the area. There are several view points around the coast line. It is a good trip

Exceptional drive with stunning views of the numerous bays and Pebble Beach gold club. Well worth the $11.25 toll fee. We drove around slowly and you could easily stay all day at various points.

We paid the $11.25 entrance fee (per car) and entered at the Pacific Grove gate. This is the first time I’ve entered there, and I was amazed to see a huge herd of goats just inside the gate, and behind a fence. Along with two herding dogs. The goats were fascinating to watch.
The drive was amazing, and I always under estimate how long it’s going to take. There are so many great places to visit. Spanish Bay is a beautiful beach to stop at, with easy parking, and big crashing waves. We saw three deer from the parking lot. Ideally take a picnic lunch and stop for a while at any one of the many numbered stops. There was always lots of parking, and often places to sit. Definitely stop at the Lone Cypress and get an iconic photo.
We exited through the Carmel gate, and headed into town to pick up lunch, to eat at Carmel Beach. It was a great way to end the drive.

Great slow drive, with an outstanding view. It cost $10 per vehicle to enter, which comes with a map. You can use three gates to enter. I DO NOT recommend using Gate 1, since it will take you through the residential area, and you will be driving for a while before you even get to the coastline. The better choices are either the Pacific Grove Gate or the Carmel Gate, which will take you directly to the coastline. Just make sure your passenger, if you have one, is paying close attention to the map, so you don't end up making the wrong turn somewhere. Anyway, have fun.

This was so nice! We didn't know what to expect, but found ourselves stopping often taking pictures as well as taking short walks to catch better views. We also found our way to Pebble Beach Golf Resort - what fun! Had an inexpensive lunch by getting a sandwich and chips at the Resort Market and ate it outside with a beautiful view.

The 17 Mile Drive is LIT! We enjoyed it SO much, there are amazing views of the Pacific Ocean, just incomparable from anywhere else! Its well worth the 12 bucks per car you pay, since you get photos that are just priceless, every one looks like a painting the ocean is so beautiful!
We are not golfers so Pebble Beach was cool to see from the vehicle window; we spent most of our time in the Monterey sites, Carmel, and stopped to take a perfect family photo at Bixby Bridge (the road is open but down to one lane a few miles south of Carmel). The ocean is so perfect at all of the turn outs, one of our favorites was Bird Rock that has tons of birds, otters, sea lions, and wildlife!

Drive was pretty. Most stops were packed with other cars and tourists. A lot of bikes on the road you had to be careful of. A lot of new home construction taking place along the coast.

Lovely drive, although can be quite busy and cost $11.50
Narrow roads wind along the coast around Pebble Beach and Pacific Grove. Beautiful coastline and wildlife. Little access to beach as this is a marine reserve with nesting sites and special habitats. Recommend if you have time.

Given how beautiful Big Sur is, why bother?
Save the $11 and drive ten minutes down the coast.
OK it is fun to do "house porn" and watch the billionaire mansions. But we felt ripped off: they are rich enough to pay for their own upkeep without charging to drive along the road.

I have been on this drive quite a number of times and it never gets old. Breathtaking views as wells. So many nice scenic spots, there are 17 scenic spots but 3 stand out to me, Cypress Point Lookout, China Rock and the Lone Cypress. But they all have beautiful views. Takes around 3 hours or more for the whole drive, especially if you stop to eat or take a lot of photographs.Enter the route through any of the gates. The entry free is $11.25 per vehicle. They give you a map. You get a reimbursement with $35 or more in purchases in Pebble Beach establishments. We got a reimbursement when we ate at Roys located at the Inn at Spanish Bay.

Stunning views throughout. Was particularly beautiful at sunset. Very good value for the money it costs. Plenty of viewpoints with sufficient parking

Do not go on the drive if you are in a rush, just take your time, relax and enjoy. Lots of in and out of the car but each stop is a different view and a different story. If other cars are behind you, just pull over a bit and let them pass. Enjoy the nature, wildlife and beauty.

This drive was recommended while researching the area. Lovely drive but unfortunately that night our records showed we had been charged $80.00 instead of $11.00. Of course people make mistakes and we hadn’t picked it up. Sent an email to the Pebble Beach organisation asking them to refund the difference. Unfortunately I haven’t heard back. That is disappointing and wrong.

Waste of time. Better views of the coast are available without a fee. We were able to see elitist golfers in their native habitat. At the end you are dumped out at the Pebble Beach gift shop...how convenient.

We found this didn’t live up to the hype. Maybe because we had just spent the morning at gorgeous Point Lobos. It’s an easy drive and if you are unable to hike or walk long distances, this is a good way to see some scenery.

Worth the $11.25 gate fee to see beautiful greens, homes, seals and coast. Takes about an hour, more if you take in the gift shops and visitor’s center.

great drive along the coast through some of the most prestigious golf courses in the world. Stops along the drive are informative and breathtaking views. Beautiful drive!

If you are anywhere near this location, you MUST take a couple to a few hours and drive this road. It will not only provide you with incredible ocean views and beaches and trees, but will forever be etched in your mind. Such beauty. Stop at all the areas you can and take in the views. You will likely see sea otters playing, waves crashing on the rocks, gorgeous tunnels comprised of very big and old trees. Not a lot of restaurants along the way so take a snack in the car. You can have lunch at Pebble Beach. Just follow the road, no outlets, no where to get lost.

Beautiful relaxing time on the 17 Mile Drive. Cost is $11.75 per car but very much well worth the cost. Follow the red dashed path and see stunning shorelines, birds, gold courses and phenomenal mansions. You do not want to rush this drive, take the time to stop and take it all in. We caught the sunset at the Lone Cypress; AMAZING!! There are restrooms at stops 7 (Bird Rock) and 17 (Pebble Beach Visitor Center). Small Convenience Store at the Visitor Center as well. Highly recommend and would do this drive again. Plan at least a couple hours depending on time of year. High season be prepared for lots of traffic.

We have done this drive several times while staying in the Monterey area. It never fails to be the most beautiful drive in California. We were able to see whales migrating on this trip while pulling over to some of the areas on the drive.
The Ocean was calm and the weather was perfect. We were able to see several deer also.
One of my very favorite spots

The 17-mile drive is mostly of a rather boring beach.
The Lone Cypress is probably the only fantastic view point on the entire drive, and you can easily skip all the rest and get strait to it.

We rented e-bikes in Monterey and biked 17-mile drive. What a fantastic way to see a real CA treasure. You pass through the Pebble Beach golf course and see some of CA's best coastal scenery.

Beautiful route with many different viewpoints, well equipped with parking spaces. You can also go out on a beautiful beach.

Loved this. I started this drive early (around 8:20) and entered through pacific grove. It was quiet and each stop I had to myself basically. If you arrive at the golf course visitor Center before 10 it is still closed so just bear that in mind if you want to visit there.

Great drive through spectacular area with lots of stop off points for walking and photos. Many points of interest even if you are not a golfer. Well worth the $12.

Thoroughly enjoyed. Easy with many pull offs that were not too crowded. Outstanding views of the beautiful blue water by the rocks and wild flowers, some places to get to the water, and of course the sunset. Enjoyed the shops and restaurants and seeing the courses and the cypress trees. The map at the gate was useful to know what to look for at each stop.

Visited as apart of our PCH1 drive. Gorgeous views of the coast as well as the beautiful homes! Teens got tired of stopping along the way though

Good views on this scenic drive but nothing you can't see locally for free, we did California 1 and felt that was better and free

beautiful as always! a Monterey must do no matter how many times you've done it. this last time, we saw so many deer which our kids thought was so special

It cost a single car $11.50, and for a tour bus $5 PP on board (it looks like the homeowners are trying to discourage nonresident travel on their roads)!
Most of the homes on this 17-mile ocean front area are in the 13 – 14-million-dollar range. We noted several older homes being torn down and new ones being built in their place (when you have enough money to buy one of these places, what the heck is just a few more million.
We stopped at Bird Rock to view; yes, the birds, but also the Sea Otters bunched up rafting together while laying (floating) on their back.
Next was a stop at the lone cypress (the symbol that most connect with this drive).
Next it was to Pebble Beach (famous golf course for about a hour of rubberneck on the grounds where a round of golf cost $1,000 / cart $45 / caddy $95.

The 17 Mile Drive in Monterey is a definite must while traveling to the Monterey area. It is a gorgeous drive that hugs the coastline and offers outstanding views and photo ops.

Scenic drive, nice drive if you’re on the way but not worth going out of your way for. Beautiful coastline but Big Sur is better.

Words literally can’t describe this drive. Just do it. And enjoy the scenery. And stop as much as possible. Makes sure you have a full day to experience this once in a lifetime drive.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a beautiful area… JUST AS beautiful as the rest of the coastline to the north and around the peninsula, all of the rest being FREE to explore. We really found ourselves scratching our heads as to why we paid money to drive here, to find the same type of beauty we had already enjoyed just down the road. There was generally something icky about the golf club exclusivity and particularly the “trademarked” Lone Tree (which btw, has lost limbs and isn’t as wistfully attractive anymore)… All the warnings about someone owning all rights to pictures of a tree is off putting. Save your money and enjoy the publicly accessible beauty all around the area.

Driving around monterey we had seen a lot of beautiful water scapes. Had a few hours and saw reviews so thought we would do this. Holy moly! Definitely a step up in amazing! Yes yes yes to do!

The drive has been upgraded substantially since our last visit here. The numerous pull-out points contain informative signage as well as brilliant scenery. This is definitely a must-do for any avid golfers looking to sneak a peak at the Pebble Beach golf course.
Only downside is that the population in this area has also grown considerably so traffic is much greater. Be prepared to encounter jams (we did), especially at rush hour.

Absolutely gorgeous scenic drive with incredible views down the entire coast. Could easily spend the entire day doing this. Well worth the cheap cost of entry. An absolute must for anyone in the area!

This is definitely a nice drive and the $12 toll is not bad. I especially enjoyed the pullouts where the coastal views are spectacular. Driving along the golf courses and past the luxury homes along the way is also nice. Be sure to stop at all of the marked locations...there's good signage at each one. Overall, it is a nice drive, albeit a bit over-hyped.

After visiting the Pinos Lighthouse, my family and I embarked on the 17-Mile Drive through the Pebble Beach Golf Course in Pacific Grove. There is a $12 fee per car at the entry gate, and you'll receive a map highlighting 17 stops where you can park and enjoy various vistas or points of interest. The ocean views provide excellent photo opportunities. If you visit all or most of the 17 stops, expect the journey to take over 90 minutes, depending on how long you linger at each spot. At stop #14, the visitor center, you can grab a snack from the marketplace and learn more about the golf course.

Spent the afternoon exploring the 17 - Mile Drive and took in some amazing views and beautiful sights. At first I thought the entry few was a little high but was very happy we did. The drive is well marked and offered plenty of parking at all the stops. The map provided at the entrance is very helpful and loaded with some great information on all the points of interest.
There are restrooms and a cafe near the Pebble Beach golf club and resort. Take your time and don't rush it. Get out and enjoy the views and the sounds of the waves crashing on the rocks. You will have a wonderful and enjoyable afternoon.

Recently went to the Monterey, Santa Cruz area for a short vacation. Very much enjoyed the wharf in Santa Cruz and Monterey, the Whale Watching, and 17 mile drive and the beautiful views. We stayed at La Quinta Inn & Suites in Santa Cruz and were pleasantly surprised by how nich it was and how close it was to the beach/wharf area.

Rode bicycles from Monterey down to Pebble Beach and it was an amazing trip. Nice thing about bikes is you can stop when you want and soak in all the views. Highly recommend. We had regular bikes and did not need electric bikes at all. Pebble Beach has a great deli to get food from and picnic on their grounds. You can also go into the Club House which has a lovely view (you do not need to be a member). You can eat in there as well if you prefer more of a fancy meal or wish to be waited on. We went in and just grabbed a glass of wine for the lovely view.

Went during the week on a beautiful day in September- pretty much had the places to ourselves. Great beachside settings and rock outcroppings. Easy drive through great scenery.

If you want a lovely scenic drive along the coast then go on the 17 Mile Drive in Monterey. In some parts it is truly breathtaking. Obviously it all depends on the weather but we loved it. At $11 a car its a bargain.

We drove this ourselves, and fortunately picked a day that wasn't too crowded so parking was not an issue. Saw the Lone Cypress, shame that a significant branch broke off due to storm damage but still worth the look. There are fabulous houses that you'll go past, would be nice to have some type of guide to highlight things that you might overlook but didn't see any.

We were told this is a must when you visit Monterey. It was nice but an entry fee to visit somewhere as affluent as Pebble Beach just seems greedy.

This beautiful drive is well worth the $11.75 price of admission. We stopped off at most of the highlights, to soak in the gorgeous coastal views and scenery. The entire drive was varied enough to please everyone in our group. Beautiful scenery, up close views of spectacular houses, iconic views of the Lone Cypress, and really cool being able to actually visit Pebble Beach golf course. Highly recommended if you like scenic drives.

17 Mile Drive is the tourist attraction and the drive is beside the Pacific Ocean. It is a scenic road passes through beaches, golf courses, big mansions, bird rocks etc. Entrance fee is there per car. Enjoyed the beautiful scenery

Very nice drive here. Lots of wonderful viewd if different landscapes, near some of the most popular golf courses. There is a small entrance fee, but very worth it. Highly recommended!

This was a beautiful drive. The views were beautiful. It was well worth the $11.25. The Visitor Center was worth a stop too. We were fortunate enough to see an otter.

We did this drive on Mother's Day 2021. Lots of spots to stop and enjoy. There is a fee to enter but well worth it. I would return again!

We didn't have time to do the entire 17 mile drive but I think between touring Point Lobos State Park and going to the best part of this in Carmel we saw the highlights. If you don't have time put in your GPS the Clinton-Walker -Frank Lloyd Wright house in Carmel and park along the street. Stunning views, can walk down to the ocean, beautiful, unique homes.

Fun drive with great views.
10.50 per carload.
Huge tourist trap in the middle for Pebble beach. Sad to too the rich have destroyed the natural landscapes with walls and ridiculous “houses”.
I mean it was a nature preserve for a long time and there is no way animals are able to migrate to the waters through these monstrosities.
The actual nature preserve is totally depleted of water because of the drought. We did see a few deer.
I guess we were part of the problem for going on the drive. (My husband wanted to)
So… if you like looking at houses and golf courses, you’ll like this.

My daughter and grandkids came to visit from Arizona so we loaded up our van drove 3 hours to get there my other daughter and son-in-law rode my bike and my van was full grandkids I paid at the gate and then when they went out to pay for the bike they told us they didn't allow motorcycles anymore so they took 20 minutes to give me a refund and we were turned away and the grandkids for very disappointed they said it was because somebody on a motorcycle tore up some of the lawn it's disappointing that somebody would do that but you can't punish the rest of us for one person's actions most of us to ride motorcycles because we enjoy riding motorcycle especially in scenic routes like that

17 mile drive is a waste of time. bunch of rocks to see.
then you get to Pebble Beach visitor center. There is NO BEACH Here. you could not walk 1/4 mile. private prorerty and gold courses
if you wanted. gift shop, restaurants and again waste of time. head out to big sur instead.

The app tour is definitely worth the $6 fee to really make the drive seem like a guided tour. We lucked out with amazing weather that day and took about a hundred stunning photos. Look out for all the wild deer crossing the street!

A long slow drive along here is perfect. It is so beautiful, THe ocean is so blue and the houses, you have to see the houses.

17-Mile Drive is an easy drive around a simple to follow route. You pay a $12 fee at the start and are provided with a guide which takes you to all the main stopping points and includes lots of supporting information. Absolutely beautiful sights all the way around, coastline and wildlife, not forgetting the perfectly manicured gold courses! Of course, the logo of the place is the Lone Cypress which is so lovely to see perched on its rock.
It's also an opportunity to see how the other half live given the scale and beauty of some of the houses in the area - stunning.
The visitor centre is more like the Pebble Beach Golf Shop, but very nice all the same.
Highly recommended.

Well worth it. Awesome views and stopping points, good to go through Pebble Beach as well. Restaurants on premise refund the entrance fee and worth visiting.

Absolutely absurd to pay 11.75 to drive through a residential area with golf fields. Nature completely displaced by these fields and houses, as well as the sea view. Point Lobos much nicer and free, as well as neighboring Carmel.

It's a beautiful drive with many places to stop and enjoy the view. It also looks like a fun place to bike.

Beautiful landscapes that can be seen elsewhere for free. A good part of the road overlooks the view of a golf course and houses. A bit insulting to pay for that! For about the same price, go to Point Lobos.

17 miles drive is really cool. Lot of nature views offer uniqueness. The golf courses on one end additional touch of finesse.
Sunset was charming in here. See some of the pics I posted.

We did this drive on a whim while leaving Carmel. It was nice and definitely pretty, but I wouldn't say it is super special or even more special than the rest of the coast. Unless of course there is something along the way that is super meaningful to you (e.g., The Lone Cypress."

You can enjoy the amazing view of the Pacific Ocean and one of the most famous golf courses in the world, Pebble Beach Golf course along with some other famous golf courses (Spyglass, etc.)

Great views. Costs 11 dollars to get in to do the driving they say if you spend 35 dollars at any of the restaurants they will deduct it from the cost I pay(11 dollars) but the costs at the restaurants is greater than 35 an you give a tips so it make you ask yourself doesn't make no sense but I guess that the price you pay when want to be apart of the other

Excellent place to visit if you are in Bay Area. Nice view of costal area and cliffs, and forests. House in that area looks expensive.

Wonderful drive. with a lot of beautiful scenery - many spots with unique views - absolutely recommendatable - some famous golf course

Definitely worth a leisurely drive. The drive starts long before one enters the Pacific Grove Gate. Start one's drive from the Cannery Row along the beach side road. One can't missed it. Finish this stretch and then proceed to the Pacific Grove Gate entrance and follow the signage posts or on the road. You will be on the correct side of the drive. Get a free map and try to stop at each recommended points for pics.
The Pebble Beach stretch is somewhat disappointing as its private and hoi polloi are out of bound or view are boarded up.

This is a beautiful drive thru Carmel and plenty of stops along the way to get out and see different parts of the beach and scenery. Well worth the $ and side trip.

What an AMAZING drive this was. Stopped off at multiple courses along the way so would give half a day or so if you’re committing to doing this. One of the best parts of our 6 week trip by far

We'd done this about 10 years ago but when we were there most recently, the weather had been dreary and overcast all day. So that afternoon/evening it was clearing out and we wanted to do something after dinner. Turns out that it was a great idea. Not only are there many places to pull off and see beautiful views of the bay (with many picture postcard taking opportunities), but at the beginning of the drive, we saw a couple of whales in the bay and were able to follow them along the coast for awhile. You can go at a snail's pace (but please pull over frequently if you do so others can pass) or a little quicker (but please respect the speed limit as good parts of this drive are in peoples' neighborhoods) and stop for as little or long as you'd like at many points along the drive. Great way to see the sights; especially for those that can't hike or get around as easily as others.

17-Mile drive is a great day trip in the Bay Area. It’s located in the famous Pebble Beach, where they have PGA Tour golf events. It’s pretty exclusive and waitlist from what I hear. It’s right on the coastline so you will get the scenic views of the beach and ocean. It’s also right next to the downtown area, so there are options for a further excursion for food and shopping locally. One of the best parts about the 17-mile drive is there are designated stops along the way (each numbered) so you get the most out of it. Just be sure to follow the “Red” line in the road that will guide you.
Tip: Try to go late afternoon so you can catch the sunset and the golden hour at the Lone Cypress (the tree that is actually the logo for Pebble Beach). It will be truly picturesque.
Pros:
1) Amazing scenic views of the coastline.
2) You are provided a guided map with directions and numbered stops that have a short historical bio about each place along the way.
3) It’s a very picture perfect place
4) Easy day trip for the Bay Area.
Cons:
1) You do have to pay a daily fee $12.25 (when we went)
2) If you go for sunset, the visitor center and some shops may be closed by the time you to that point along the drive.
@nomoneytravelguy

Awesome drive on the oceanfront.
At the gate (12$ fee) they give yo ua map with all the observation points that deserve a stop.
It's really hard to say which is better, from the Lone Cypress to Birds Rock, to other incredible views on the ocean.
Really unmissable when in the area

Easy to locate and drive, the 17 mile drive was a delightful and stunning way to spend a few hours. We took our time and savoured the different views. We even saw sea lions sunning themselves.

The views are amazing. Lots of places to stop and take pictures. We saw lots of sea otters in the water. We actually did this drive twice to go back and take more pictures. The 4 golf courses are beautiful too.

Gorgeous. a road that runs along the coast with many spots and viewpoints to stop. it starts at Pacific Groove in Monterrey and goes towards Carmel. or vice versa. ok it's paid but it's worth it. everything is well appointed, clean. great homes, beautiful views and golf courses. take your time and stop to see the wildlife.

This is one of the cheap attractions with the biggest returns. We did a drive and stopped at almost all the lookout points to take pictures. Wonderful smell of the sea and gorgeous views.

I'm torn between 3 stars and 4, as the coastal views are no more spectacular than those of Mendocino--or Maine--but as this area is undeniably gorgeous, I'm going with 4. You'll almost definitely see sea otters and sea lions, and you should bring binoculars. We didn't (we don't own any) and I wish we had (I wish we owned a pair.) I also caught it on a sunless day, but I'm told that when it's sunny, you can see Santa Cruz, so I know I didn't even get the complete picture. Rent bikes, but make sure to rent e-bikes, as much of the trek is inland and extremely hilly.

The 17 mile scenic drive was absolutely picturesque. It was a lovely drive by the ocean. We stopped at every lookout point. We took our time and soaking up all of the beauty that nature has to offer.

Awesome 3 hour 21 mile electric bike tour. Sights were awesome and stops plentiful. Only knock was tour guide went too far ahead at times.

As its name suggests, it is a 17-mile (27 km) long road that runs through the town of Pebble Beach, located between Monterey and Carmel. It is a private road, for which there is one of an entrance fee to be able to travel there. This road is beautiful the sea the ocean all these villas most beautiful than each other, and pebble beach golf club for enthusiasts it is a mythical golf where the biggest American competitions of the US OPEN really took place this road is to be done

No warnings posted anywhere to inform you that your car might be hit by golfball!! A $10.75 scenic drive turned into a $275 windshield replacement. I guess they let any rich idiot golfer hit golf ball without being held responsible for damages they may caused! Worst experience!

we love to drive along the 17 miles drive it so beautiful and relaxing.
you wouldn't regret to get in there for only $11 you can drive as many time as you want the whole day.
my kids love the beach at the point joe they can play there the whole day.

As its name suggests, it is a 17-mile long road (approximately 27.2 km) that crisscrosses the town of Pebble Beach, located between Monterey and Carmel. This is a private road, for which an entrance fee had to be paid. We then arrive in a residential area that includes a golf course and magnificent homes. Nice immersion.

Great place, go early to avoid lines. Beautiful views and great photo opps along the way. FYI no bathrooms

The drive itself is well-maintained, with plenty of scenic spots to stop and take it all in. One of my most favorite activities I have done so far.

A real joy ride of a life time!!! Beautiful, scenic, great place to explore!!! What an awesome experience!!! Will definitely coming back.

12 dollars. 12 DOLLARS to drive around a peninsula where rich people play golf and keep poor people out.
The views on Big Sur and Mo Terry Bay are so much better for free.
No sooner did I pay my bucks and drive in, set my cruise to the speed limit than some utter a...h... began harassing me, pipping his horn and swearing at me. It's a scenic drive that I have paid to do!
Not worth the cash at all.

The park is magnificent. The point of interests are well marked. The road is easy to maneuver around and very clean. The view is magnificent. The entrance fee is inexpensive and if spend $35 at any restaurant the fee will be reimbursed.

Beautiful views, nice relaxing drive. Very comforting to sit and listen to the ocean. Roads in great condition.

Seriously, around every corner is another more beautiful vista, with waves crashing and the occassional Cyrpress tree.
There are plenty of places to stop and walk around the beach or watch the golfers, or the surfers, or the hawks and seagulls, or the seals.
Plan to take your time, relax and enjoy, because the car in front of you is.

Price has gone up a lot over the years and still worth the money but very, very busy and parking is not enough for the traffic. Too many tour busses.

Amazing experience. Gorgeous ocean views ,golf courses, Million Dollar homes and wildlife ,Bird life. It’s a scenic drive that you can take at your own pace.
The drive up the backside winds through a forest, so that section is more for nature lovers. The views are amazing. Lots of places to stop and take pictures.

A must do on your vacation to Carmel-by-the-Sea or Monterey. Well worth the $11.25 toll fee and you can get a map with all the scenic attractions:
The Restless Sea, Fan Shell Beach Overlook, The Lone Cypress, Ghost Trees, Spanish Bay Beach, Golf courses, etc, etc etc
We took a slow and very scenic drive through and stopped for a while at Pebble Beach Golf club.
There are amazing mansions to see along the 17-Mile Drive - including a few belonging to some famous folk.

The drive was easy and worth the trip through. It was easy to go to spots and just stop a bit and move on.

This is a great way to see the Pacific Ocean. The water is very turbulant. There is lots of traffic along the drive - parking can be difficult. We say a deer crossing the street.

If you are a golf fan, this is definitely worth the trip. If you're mostly interested in picturesque ocean views, I think that Point Lobos is far better. April - June is seal pupping season (didn't know this beforehand) so several of the sites where you might normally see wildlife are closed off / you can't stop.

The 17 mile drive was well worth the gate fee. There are several places to stop throughout the drive and take pictures. You can even pack a lunch and stop to eat at one of the many picnic areas along the beach. There is so much history here and it was pretty cool to take it all in. The final stop was at the 18th hole and gift shop where you can walk the hallowed grounds and learn about the history of the course. There are also several gift shops from which to purchase souvenirs. Highly recommended.

We wanted to see the famous lone Cypress Tree so ended up doing 17 mile drive. You do have to pay the $12 fee to drive through, but there are some nice views. Not so bothered about the big houses - most of which you can't see and in any case are just nice houses in a nice place. Nice golf courses. Worth being about to visit the tree and read a bit of the history.

Nice route to drive. Along the coast, beautiful golf courses, beautiful houses, special trees. And had a delicious lunch on Pebble beach.
Recommended!

The 17 mile drive thru Pebble Beach is just amazing. The drive is a toll controlled drive but worth every cent. Drive by the famous Lone Cypress.

Interesting and well signposted route. It cost US€11.75/vehicle to enter, but well worth every cent. Beautiful route that was value for money! Recommended!!

This is our 4th or 5th time, I think, taking the drive. Even when the weather was at times miserable, the drive is mesmerizing. Some parts are just beautiful. Other are magical. I can't remember all the names of the stops right now, but one spot that sticks in my mind is the one where your see the lone tree that is the symbol for the development. It's just so neat. If you look at the pictures on the net, like all pictures of nature, they cannot do it justice, but they will give you an idea, maybe whet your appetitie. The coast from Monterey through Pacific Grove on to Carmel then Big Sur and then Ragged Point all the way to Hearst Castle is one of the greatest drives you can take. The only one that can compare, in my opinion, in beauty and grandeur, is Route 12 from Torrey, Utah to Bryce Canyon NP, the whole enchilada. They are drives you will remember for the rest of your life. If you value your life, don't take Route 12 unless the weather is perfect. If you take it, you will know what I mean. Happy driving.

This drive is like seeing the beauty of nature and man. It is a must at least once but once you have done you will want to do it again.

Mesmerizing, magical, serene nature. The 17-mile drive passes by Pebble Beach and the most remarkable vistas of California's northern Pacific Coast.
We enjoyed the ice plants in a fiery autumn glow, petrified trees, seagulls sunbathing on the rocky outcroppings, the crisp ocean air, and the white-water spumes as waves crashed angrily upon the shores on a brilliantly sunny day.
Don't miss this picturesque jaunt while visiting Carmel and/or Monterey, California

We have made this drive numerous times but it never gets old. Golf courses to sea views, all breathtaking. And it always includes a stop at Cypress Tree.

Beautiful scenery and lots of photo opportunities. roads are marked so you should not 'wander' into restricted areas. We drove thru during a tour and the commentary was great, telling us about various homes and stories.

Our family spent a few hours taking in the gorgeous coastal views of along the 17-Mile drive in December 2024. The beaches are gorgeous, you'll see wildlife galore at many of the stops, especially at Bird Rock, and for my golf loving family, sneaking views of the Pebble courses and stopping at the Pebble Beach visitor center was pretty special! Do dress warm for the wind and chill in December.

Well worth a visit and a drive around this route, stop off athletes various recommended viewpoints for some spectacular photos. Don’t forget to visit the visitors centre, cross the road to additional shops and watch golfers tee off at the first hole. Proper golfing Mecca.

Pretty drive. Worth doing if you haven't done it before. Area seemed more built up than the last time we were there. I recall the fee was $11.75 but check. The California coast never disappoints as it is gorgeous and the air smells good. If you're biking, be aware, it's hilly and you will need to bike on the road with the cars (little to no shoulder).

Fantastic short journey and a fast look into the rich men’s life )) The mighty ocean offers you great views in numerous spots durüng the ride. A must do action!

It has amazing stops and beautiful views. This drive was a must see! Forests, ocean, sea animals, deers.

This route is beautiful and right along the coast. Have done it in a car, but preferred this time on e bike. There are several golf courses and unbelievably beautiful homes along the way and about 1/2 way on the route is Pebble Beach Deli. We stopped for lunch. Perfect!

We've done this drive several times in the past and this time was just as good. Great scenery, well signposted and plenty of stops for photo opportunities.

This route offers some spectacular views & photo opportunities. Its well worth the $11 charge. The Coastline is rugged & beautiful. We nearly didn't do this but so glad we did.

I was in the area for another reason, but a friend told me about the 17 Mile Drive, and since I had a free morning, I went. I'm glad I did. Entrance fee is $11.75, but is credited if you eat at any of the restaurants. Once you pay at the gate, the attendant hands over a visitors map. I pulled into the parking lot and looked over map before venturing on. Fortunately, just about all the sights are in a circular path so as long as you stay on the drive, you see all marking all the major stop without really needing to look at the map. The drive is quite nice, and the ocean side stops are worth getting out for the view. I didn't know that the Pebble Beach Golf Course is one of the stops, so that was really nice to see a place to stretch your legs a little longer to visits the shops and visitor center. I'm glad I stopped here for the drive. If I had the extra time, I would've loved to bike around the area instead.

We thoroughly enjoyed this drive even though it was a foggy day . The drive is clearly marked with 17 stops( a few were not along the coast but pebble beach visitor center and pebble beach golf and equestrian center which we didn’t stop at. Two of the points were also closed while we visited due to seal pup season so I’d say there were 12 stops still well worth the $11.25

Take your time and enjoy this amazing and breathtaking scenic journey. 12 dollars was well worth it. Be mindful of the cool wind so dress accordingly. You do not want to miss a stop on the route.

The 17-Mile Drive was one of the highlights of our trip! The route offers breathtaking views of the California coast, impressive rocks and many interesting animals. The viewpoints along the route are particularly beautiful – every stop is worthwhile.
We took a lot of time to take photos and enjoy the scenery. The entrance fee is justified for what you get offered. An unforgettable experience – absolutely make it.

We almost didn’t take this drive because a Reddit user described it as scary - cliffs with no rails. As someone who is afraid of heights I almost bypassed it. Thank goodness I decided to get out of my comfort zone. There were no scary parts only the most spectacular coastline views with loads of convenient stopping points from which to soak it all in. To top it off we ate lunch at the legendary Pebble Beach golf course - on the veranda overlooking the course and ocean - which refunded our &12.25 gate fee and applied it to lunch. Win/win. Be sure to end in Carmel by the Sea which is so charming and delightful.

A nefarious place, they charge you 12 usd for nothing. Basically you will see millionaires houses and golf courses, views that are not worthwhile, when you have Big Sur that is beautiful and FREE. The points of interest of 17 thousand rd are all the same, the attractiveness is not understood, and if there is fog (i.e. throughout the summer) DO NOT GO.

While the views are spectacular, you needn't pay to see them. There are many places along the coast highway with views just as nice or even nicer. If your heart is set on seeing the golf courses and the Lone Cypress, then I guess it's worth it but that wasn't enough for me.
The attraction is the Pebble Beach golf course and shops. Again, if you want to overpay for a polo shirt, be my guest. I don't like being overcharged for items (think $18 for clam chowder - we passed).
This was disappointing. I'm not into driving by homes of the rich and famous and I certainly don't like being overcharged. There are many alternatives with ocean views and food that is likely just as good in the area.

This is a wondrous driving to take. We spent 4 hours stopping all along the way. A toll road, $11 per car

Worth it! Of course, "most beautiful drive in the US" is an exaggeration. Some stops are just places in the woods, but there are many stops along the rugged coast. There are waves, and it is very windy there. One stop is called Restless Sea. It is a place of two shipwrecks (luckily, without casualties). There are many birds (including pelicans). There are also otters. California ground squirrels (rock squirrels) on the land are not afraid of people and begging for food. There are a couple of stops with impressive cypress trees including The Lone Cypress and Ghost Trees. A drive is going around some very impressive mansions. One of them is a Gingerbread House with a multicolored roof.

Very nice route (loop). Definitely worth the drive, 17 highlights and that's not counting the houses you encounter. Definitely do it if you are in the area and have the time.

Our visit was awesome! 🤩
The route is very rich and worth the detour. We pass by sublime beaches and the road through the forest is magnificent. We pass in front of very beautiful houses that make us dream.
I definitely recommend doing this tour if you are passing through Monterey (Pacific Groove)

Friendly greeting at pay booth/security, then self-guided with a map provided. Some great vistas and photo opportunities. Some areas were more crowded than others but a good way to spend a couple of hours.

$10.75 to enter, open from sunrise to sunset. If you eat at one of the restaurants in the area, make sure to take your receipt from the entry gate, as they will often comp you that cost off of the bill for your meal.

Although this is without a doubt a beautiful drive - the fact that not all 17 miles are ocean front, and that it costs $10 to enter the drive, were facts that caught us a bit off guard. This is clearly an area yielding lots of tax dollars for keeping up the roads (think mansions, golf courses, etc.), and although it is really beautiful in places, much of it is through the woods and even along the ocean front you can do similar drives for free almost anywhere up and down the coast. The map you are given is also a bit vague when it comes to turns along the route, so we kept ending up having to turn around and go in a different direction due to a wrong turn. Having said all that, the stops we did enjoy were well worth the $10 to get there (especially Pebble Beach Golf Club and the Lone Cyprus venue). Be aware that on a busy day parking at some of the stops is limited, as many are merely pull-offs alongside the road. But this is a very enjoyable way to see the scenic Monterey and Carmel areas. Helpful tip: I would not recommend inexperienced bikers taking this route. The roads are narrow and drivers are often checking their maps to navigate, so it is risky for bikers who are also insecure on these roads. Pay your $10 and drive instead.

beautiful it was worth the $12 --i would recommend to anyone--it was interesting and relaxing. was confusing on the way out--GPS route was frustrating

We entered the drive from the Carmel gate. There is an entry fees of $10. Which I believe is worth it this is also refundable if to have food in one of the restaurants on pebble beach. The drive is scenic. There are various point of interest and the drive of the mountain roads and the beauty of the sea on one side and golf course on the other side is breathtaking .
A mush Cust if you are visiting Monterey

My husband and I drove the 17-mile drive while staying in Monterey for a few days. It offered absolutely breathtaking views, and the most spectacular sunset I think I've ever seen. Well worth the fee to enter.

This Drive is on a very scenic road through Pebble Beach and the Pacific Grove. It hugs the gorgeous Pacific Coast and passes beautiful Golf Courses, amazing Mansions and Scenic Attractions. There is an entrance fee per car because it passes through an exclusive neighborhood. But you get a Map with a list of all the scenic attractions and Places to Stop at – like Spanish bay Beach, The Restless Sea, Bird and Seal Rocks, Fan Shell Beach Overlook, The Lone Cypress, Ghost Trees, etc.
I believe that this is something that everyone must do when they visit the Carmel area. Take your camera with a good zoom lens to get a closer look at the birds and other wildlife abundant here. There are also endless hidden gems that you will discover through your lens.
Looking over that Bay with the uninterrupted Ocean Views was really peaceful. The Rock Formations caused by the crashing waves were lovely, and the beauty of Nature was simply stunning. We are so glad we got to see this.
A “Must Visit” Place – at least once in your lifetime. Allow a few hours, because you will be getting off at several spots to admire those views. Vintage California…!

This is one of America's most beautiful highways. Take your time, stop at the viewpoints, breathe in the ocean air. This one is not to be missed.

Today we went to 17 miles drive because it is a well-known attraction in Monterey. What turned out is that it was crowded with tourists and we saw much nicer things along the way (route 1). I wouldn't advise anyone to come here.

This was a vital part of our amazing drive from Mountain View to LA. We made sure we take Route 1 as much as possible and this section was fabulous.
Stunning views, beaches, scenery. So much to take it, so little time.
We were zipping through too fast. Need to come back and spend more time to take in nature and everything around.
Recommended to ANY ONE and everyone!!

So many interesting vista points! We didn’t stop and get out at all the POI but even just slowing down for a look from our vehicle was great. Our favorite POIs were probably Restless Sea and Lone Cypress. The golf courses were stunning and we also caught a glimpse at some beautiful bucks on the course.

We had one day in Monterey so we spent the morning at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and the afternoon on the 17-Mile Drive. This was our kids first visit so we wanted to show them the unique beauty of the area. We stopped at several of the ocean areas, the lone cypress and Pebble Beach resort. The areas along the shore are very windy but great spots to see wildlife. If you are a golf fan Pebble Beach will be a highlight as you can park for free and walk around the 18th hole. We spent around 2 hours in total although you could certainly stay much longer.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the Pebble Beach 17-mile tour. The views are spectacular and the points of interest info is very informative. We were pleasantly surprised to find that Pebble Beach is a public golf course and that we could walk up close to the 18th green and watch the golfers.

You actually have to pay to access the roads. $10 per car. Stop at the Pebble Beach shop for snacks and restrooms. Scenery is lovely. Worth doing once. I've been multiple times with people who haven't been before and it's pretty enough to do again for the sake of others.

We paid $7 for a guided audio tour that made it interesting and offered good tips. Stopped in Carmel for lunch and walked around shops. Then did the drive in reverse (back to Monterey) and stopped halfway at The Lodge in Pebble Beach for drinks and oysters. The whole experience was beautiful.

Exceptional!
Worth the entry price.
At the gate, you got a helpful brochure noting points of interest along the drive.
The drive is gorgeous; it follows the coastline from Monterey to Carmel, passing through Pebble Beach and the famous golf course. There are several homes along the way—prepare to dream of owning a home on the California coast!
Ample space to park at points of interest on what felt like a relatively busy Saturday morning.
Nice variation in the points of interest, from beaches suitable for walking to cliff-side lookouts. Stunning vistas at all of them, with the chance to watch the waves, see the tide pools fill, and enjoy the gorgeous landscape. The “lone cypress” was a particularly cool stop.
Highly recommended if in the area!

Its a fabulous ride from Monterey to Pebble Beach (Carmel if you have more time) the road sections feel safe and the drivers are really good around cyclists

The most iconic scenery on the California coast. Though taken several times before, I always find this drive most enjoyable.

I could have spent all day here. The exhibits were stunning, so much variety and so very well kept. Definitely a must do in the area.

This is a must do and worth the admission fee! At first I was skeptical as I started on the loop with the side away from the coast… don’t spend too much time there as the absolute best views are on the coastal side! There are plenty of places to pull off and park and enjoy the beautiful scenery. I stopped at almost every stop on the coastal half and it was worth it. At the end be sure to check out Pebble beach resort and have a drink at the casual patio bar at the lower level.

This was my first time in Monterey. We did the 17 mile drive late in the afternoon. The guy at the gate refused to give our change of 75 cents back because he said he didn't have any money.Normally this wouldn't bother me but I got to thinking that if he kept the change from everyone that paid cash then he was going home with quite a bit of money. He also didn't tell us about the painted lines on the road so we got off track.Luckily a super nice man working at the visitor center helped us and suggested places to see.Half of the drive was nice to see but the other half was backyards of houses that weren't that nice to see.

Well worth the $12. Beautiful views. Make sure you get out and walk a bit. Went around 9am on a Friday so traffic wasn’t bad.

To forget. Sheer waste of time and money. If you want to admire the villas and golf courses of the rich, this is the right tour. For everyone else: Let it stay!

Travelled from San Francisco to San Diego. We had to visit Monterey and Carmel with a beautiful drive of 17 mile, lots of fantastic photo opportunities.

It didn’t disappoint me to drive on this famous road. I have been dreaming about driving on this road for a long time and finally dream comes true. Pebble beach golf course is stunning and is on my bucket list to play there in the future.

We loved every bit of this drive, enjoyed each and every stopping point for soaking in the spectacular views. Well marked points of interest, parking not an issue on a Monday afternoon.

If you play golf in the area it's a waste of time as you see the area while playing
Sharpe sticks in the eye. Wasted a better part of an hour.

Boring and frankly a waste of money. You would be better served driving close to the shoreline and just walking the beaches.

This was my second time doing the 17 mile drive. My husband had never done the drive and I said he must see it. It is so magnificent. I love that they give you a brochure with all of the stops. The views are just breathtaking. It makes you appreciate the beauty we have in our country.

The drive gives you the very best views of the California coast. For a fee of $11 the drive takes you around the Monterey Peninsula. The fee allows you to go as often as you like on that day and we took full advantage of that. The scenery is truly spectacular. You can't access much of the headland as it is protected. That's a shame but its not hard to see why. You past Pebble Beach - for me made famous by Wayne Carini Chasing Cars! Very sad but it was great to see. As we were in Carmel we left early in the morning and had the place to ourselves. By 11am it was quite busy so my advice - leave early.

Some of the locations on the drive were outstanding -- nice beaches, etc. Others were simply driving around a housing neighborhood. Even if you are into that keep in mind that it is a narrow road in many places so you can't slow down really to look at the architecture without blocking traffic.

A beautiful opportunity to bike the 17 mile drive and see the beautiful ocean and Luxurious homes. Perfect for e-bike enthusiasts.

Not enough words to describe the beauty of this drive. Plan for more time then you think as I you will find opportunities to just sit and enjoy. Take it, you’ll have no regrets.

If you do one thing in the Monterey Peninsula- do the 17 Mile Drive. We spent a full morning doing the drive from north to south. The coastline is stunning. At the gate you are given a map and receipt ( $11 I think) for a day. The map identifies the stopping points which are all numbered. Also the multi million $ houses along the route are amazing to look at!! We had such a great morning. Following a stop at Pebble Beach lodge we drove to Carmel (very close by). You can follow the rest of the drive back up to Pacific Grove. It really is worth exploring this area!

It's just a wonderful and relaxing mile. Might sound like a contradiction but the drive...the ocean... the water.. the bird and seals.. the trees and of course, Pebble Beach. The beauty of the whole drive was amazing. We had a perfect drive. It's worth the 12 dollar charge to get into the area.

We had very low expectations, but this was great. We saw wonderful ecosystems. We saw sea otters, seals, many species of birds, and a nice variety of trees, “forests”., and beaches. The golf courses were also amazing, but for us it was all about nature. Well worth the time.

If you’re in the area this is a must do and well worth the $12 fee (which was deducted from the food bill at the Gallery Cafe at Pebble Beach).
The houses, the views, the tourist stops and the golf courses. Well worth an hour or so to scoot around.

My husband is quite the golfer, so we came up to Monterey with the idea that we would try the 17-Mile Drive. We weren't disappointed. Even though it is a colder coastal climate and it sprinkled a tiny bit, the views are amazing. The rocky coast land and blue water is so beautiful. We really enjoyed getting out and having a look at the different stops. If you want to spend more time, pick a warmer day than 50's and low 60's. The luxury houses along this route are really something to see too.

It was a beautiful day for a drive on the beach so we took advantage of it. Not a lot of people that day so was easy to pull in the point of view spots.

I knew that this experience was a "must," but didn't realize it was #1 on TA's "things to do in Monterey." I been here before long ago but only remember the magnificent homes that lined the Pebble Beach Golf Course. This time I saw the scope of the 17 miles and realized that a large portion consists of rather ordinary-looking, albeit super expensive, homes before the golf course.
We entered from the south gate where you pay a nominal toll and followed the road hugging the coast and beach on the right.
It is truly beautiful with secluded coves between rocky cliffs, many birds roosting on the tops. Finally we see the famous "lone cypress" tree. Here is your photo op.
We continued our daytrip to Asilomar and Carmel afterwards. Our destination was lunch in Pacific Grove. We settled upon Rudolph's which served mediocre food.

A gorgeous drive along the Monterey coast! Beautiful costal views of the ocean throughout the drive. Plenty of sea birds in the sky and on Bird Island - sometimes you can even catch a sea lion or otter in the ocean!

17-Miles Drive Tour has 17 stops to view and appreciate. Very easy enough to remember 17 stops in 17 miles drive to enjoy. We entered 17-Miles Drive Tour through Morse Gate. 17-Miles Drive Tour entrance fee was USD10.75. They provide a leaflet to describe the whole tour and route map. The tour drives through forests, along the sea, up and down the hills with magnificent, spectacular and scenic views. Pebble Beach, other beaches, several Golf Courses, Walking Trails, Shopping, Hotels, Restaurants, Monterey Cypress Trees, Ghost Trees, Sunset are the main attractions of the 17-Miles Drive. The whole tour takes more than four hours. Plan your visit such that not to miss the Sunset at The Lone Cypress, 12th stop on the tour. A must do drive with nature for all.

Absolute insolence almost everything was locked and no one pointed it out to us. The price was the normal price, never again. Better do something else with your money.

We drove part of Hwy 1 up from L.A. on the way to Monterey. We also drove Hwy 1 from Caramel to Big Sur. The scenery was better on Hwy 1 than the 17 mile drive. Definitely not with the $12 we paid to drive it.

The sky was leaden and the wind blustering the day we drove the famous 17-Mle-Drive, which made us glad that the way to see it is to drive from lookout point to lookout point. And the threatening weather did not detract from the beauty of the drive in the least. I don't remember how many stops there are exactly, but our favorites were Bird Rock, where we tarried for several minutes watching gulls, cormorants, pelicans and more circling the rock and taking turns taking off and landing at its highest point; Restless Seas, a very interesting spot where prevailing currents come in from 2 different directions and meet, causing to waves to push up and break over one another; and of course Lone Cypress, which is as enigmatic in real life as it is in paintings and photos. Although it is not really alone- a line of cypress lead to the promontory on which it stands. On the day we were there Seal Rock was unfortunately not occupied, nor did we see any passing whales which are often spotted. Guess we'll have to visit again.
Give yourself time to drive slowly and spend a little while enjoying each spot; each has something to recommend it.
If you are not a resident or guest in the area, it costs about $10 per car to take the drive, but it's worth it.

This drive is a must.
You pay a small fee (per car) and receive a map highlighting places to stop along the way. The map is easy to follow.
Each stop has parking and information boards.
The drive took us over 2 hours and we stopped at most stops.
We found the drive very scenic and informative; a fantastic experience.

Very interesting and beautiful coast area. There are a lot of numbered stops along the way where you can enjoy the views. Some places are somewhat destroyed by golf courses with holes right out on the rocks along the shore. There is an island called Bird Island where hyou apart from a lot of birds can see a large amount of sea lions. It is astonishing how they have been able to get up the steep slopes.

I would absolutely recommend doing this drive. It is very clearly marked and you get to see stunning views.

17 Mile Drive is an important tourist attraction in the California State. It has several tourist spots and important places to see and enjoy. Entrance fee is there. Parking and other facilities are available.

A MUST on your vacation to Monterey! A map is provided when you enter. Beautiful outlets to stop and see the ocean and wildlife. Many beaches to enjoy the sand and water. Beautiful mansions to see along the drive. Bring your binoculars.

Pretty cool. I’m not a golfer, but I enjoyed seeing the courses and the club shops. The beaches were not amazing, but the overlooks were nice. You can get equally beautiful photos driving south on Hwy 1 to Big Sur … and if you have the chance to, do that instead!

We went from Pacific Grove to Carmel on this trip. Even though it was December it was quite busy. The place is well maintained and lots of overlooks onto the Pacific ocean with Pebble Beach golf course and community views.

This driving trip was much like a drive in the Colorado foothills. Twisty road with lots of pine trees (the ongoing drought is really evident in the health of the trees and vegetation-just like Colorado). I really enjoyed the part of the trip along the ocean as I had not really seen the ocean up close. Other guests were friendly and a good time was had by all!

Many dog friendly off leash beaches too. Fantastic weather made it better. Plenty of time to laze around.

Don’t drive! Hire bikes and cycle it instead! It is so much nicer to be in out in the fresh sea air than in a car having to stop and park every couple of miles. We rented bikes from Mad Dogs and Englishmen in Carmel and had the best time. Friendly and helpful staff, comfortable E bikes to ride, helpful map. Don’t worry about the cars on the drive. There is a strict speed limit and we found most cars very considerate.

Highway 1 from Monterey to Carmel is always crowded, and more so during rush hours (which now is about half the daylight hours.) A scenic and sometimes faster route to Carmel is the 17-mile drive.

A wonderful scenic drive along the water with some spectacular views. Plenty of places to stop and some great views of amazing homes and the golf courses.

A big scam. Not worth the fee. You mainly drive pas golf terrains and expensive mansions. The seascapes are by fare less impressive than elsewhere.

This is definitely not worth the money. Trees and houses obscure the views. The traffic to see one tree! There are so MANY beautiful stops on the coast that are free! Check out Monterey and Carmel. Pebble Beach-The lodge view is nice but the food has gone down and the wait staff has gone down. See the view and dine somewhere else. I did read reviews it was not worth it but wanted to see for myself.

There are fabulous stops for photography here, follow the map they give you, I believe it $12 for the drive but we'll worth it. This was our last stop on a 4 day trip to monterey, not as beautiful as the big sur scenery but don't miss. Take your time, alot of gorgeous mansions here along with pebble Beach golf course, but the definite highlight is the cypress tree with the Lone cypress

If you are in Monterey, rather skip the aquarium, but do this route instead. Magnificent, in the middle of the ocean, villas, wonderful pine trees, golf courses, fantastic views.

For a location that literally stole a section of the California Coast from its residents, this place is less then you would hope and all that you would expect from some entitled wealthy folks seeking to rip off the general public. Also, they used to allow military on for free but now the mall cops at the gate seem to have forgotten. Drive Asilomar. It’s free and it’s better.

Took a one-day Monterey & 17-Mile Drive tour via Viator today — and what an experience! 😊
We were lucky to have Antony Wen as our tour guide. He proved that the real joy of travel lies in the journey — not just the destination. When your driver is well-read, thoughtful, fun, and curious about the world, the entire trip transforms.
A car full of strangers turned into friends.
Music became global — Indian, Chinese, European — all personalized with so much consideration.
Multiple fun stops, endless laughs, photos at every turn… truly 10/10!
And then Pebble Beach & the resort — serene, surreal, almost otherworldly. A scenic beauty that stays with you. Definitely a must-visit… already wishing to go back!
Just take out extra time - it took us 12 hrs to be back - plan accordingly
Overall, absolutely loved the tour and the whole experience. Highly recommended. ✅

must drive here to see beautiful nature, the whole drive is beautiful,
must stop at all points to see ocean trees and rock mountains

We liked the drive but not to the extent we expected. The best part was the Pebble Beach part where you could get down and take pictures of the 18th Hole and other locations. We actually drove on the Pacific Coast Highway all the way to Cambria for about 100 miles. The drive along that was more exciting and enjoyable than the 17 Mile Drive. We spent a lot of time at the Pfeiffer beach and other Big Sur locations. The drive on PCH from Monterey to Cambria was probably one of the best we have taken. Start in Monterey in the afternoon and make sure you see the sunset while you are on the PCH. Highly recommended.

It’s a scenic drive that you can take at your own pace. Recommend bringing binoculars to get a better view of Bird Rock (more like sea lion rock).
The drive up the backside winds through a forest, so that section is more for nature lovers.

So I truly feel like this was a huge waste of time. It is full of people, limited parking and not that impressive. I hate that i was just funding the fancy golf courses and their golf club. That has to be the reason for the $12. The views are nice but honestly there are lots of free places you can see the same or pay the state park fee. This was not that exciting and I couldn't wait to get away from the crowds. I feel stupid for paying their fee and getting sucked in. We drove the entire way down but got out as soon as I could. Regret this tourist trap and lapse in common sense

A beautiful drive that you can do at your own speed. The weather was uncooperative the day we took the drive with a few raindrops and lots of fog, but we still saw plenty.

We have been visiting 17 mile drive for decades. It is one of the most beautiful and magical places on earth. We usually travel there 3 to 4 times a year. It is a place you have to see at least once in a lifetime, and then you want to go back. There is no place like it.

This is a must-see if you are in the Monterey/Carmel area. Enjoy the natural beauty, stop by Pebble Beach Golf Club, and have lunch in Carmel. One caution: they charge you $10 per car to drive this road. Seems like a strange toll for a public road.

Went in the morning on a beautiful cool December morning. The views are incredible and well worth the price of admission. Stops at pebble beach and Lone Cyprus are a must. One note if you come in from the North (Pacific Grove) entrance. You enter through a neighborhood which we got lost in and was difficult to navigate at first. Enter from the south if you are able.

What can we say? A gorgeous drive that we started at Cannery Row to Pacific Grove and onto the 17 Mile Drive through the Pacific Grove Gate. Many internet sites say start here and go counterclockwise and we would agree. Pay 10.75 at the toll gate and on you go. Many beauties along the way like Spanish Bay, Point Joe, China Rock, Bird Rock, Fanshell Beach, Del Monte Forest, the Line Cypress, and Pebble Beach Golf Course where you can see the green on the 18th hole if you like. A little further ahead, you can exit and drive into Carmel or keep going to see Shepherd's Knoll and Huckleberry Hill which we did but in retrospect, was not necessary. After seeing these last two, we doubled back and went into Carmel which you should not miss. It was like a Hampton's town in California - another beauty. Don't worry about writing any of the above down, they'll give you a map right upon going through the toll gate and we just followed it.

Nice view of the beach. Sad to see it surrounded by golf courses and mansions. Plus they charge $12 dollars to get in. Overall a nice drive i guess.

This is a very beautiful drive with plenty of stops to view the scenery or go for a walk or a swim in the (cold) ocean. The Lone Cypress is one of those "must stop and take a picture" spots. I'd also recommend stopping at the gift shop area, walking to and through the The Lodge and taking a walk on the sidewalk near the golf course and ocean. It is amazingly beautiful.

We ate at the Bench Restaurant at the Lodge which gave us a refund on our gate admission to do the drive.

We really enjoyed this drive. So much to see from the nature, the sea, rocks, sand, trees, forest, houses and golf courses. Amazing!

La 17 Mile Drive è uno di quei percorsi che ti fanno rallentare e dire: “Wow”. Ogni curva ti regala uno scorcio sull’oceano, scogliere, pini solitari e spiagge silenziose. Abbiamo fatto soste continue per goderci ogni punto panoramico. Un viaggio nel viaggio.
17 Mile Drive is one of those scenic roads that makes you slow down and say “Wow.” Every turn gives you ocean views, cliffs, lonely cypress trees, and quiet beaches. We stopped constantly just to soak in every view. A journey within the journey.

If you’re ever wondering, is it worth $10.50 to drive down 17 mile drive? The answer is yes. It’s extremely picturesque. Several of the numbered stops will take your breath away. A stop at the pebble beach visitor center is a must do. Even if you’re a bad golfer the stop allows you to get a few glimpses of the course and the center has some history and a gift shop.

Absolutely worth it to go on this drive. Beautiful. We took it from Monterey to Carmel then spent some time walking around Carmel which is a really cute, picturesque little town.

The 17-Mile Drive is a private road and costs $12 to enter.
It is mainly a peninsula, a huge modern golf course and a residential area for the super-duper rich.
Below is the sea, above it is the 17-Mile Drive, then there are golf courses/hotels and directly on/in these and above them are various villas, castles and modern super buildings. And in the middle is a rustic, enchanted cypress forest with the ultimate photo motif - the Lone Cypress.
There were loads of people hanging around by the cypress waiting for the sunset.
Every few hundred meters there is a vista point with a fabulous view of the sea.
Most of it is cliff beaches, only at the beginning is there a longer sandy beach.
After that comes Bird Rock and Seal Rock. Sea lions are supposed to hang around on Seal Rock, but on both rocks the birds had the say and there were only a few sea lions. As soon as you got out of the car, you could smell the strong smell of guana/chicken coop. Without binoculars or a lens, you can only see everything from the beach, because the rocks are 100-200 meters away.
The most impressive thing here were the pelicans floating around. In formation, just soaring through the air without flapping their wings much. Adding to the mystique was a coastal fog (banks of gouty fog), which made the whole thing seem even more magical and meditative.
I could have watched for hours. For me, that was the highlight of our vacation.
On the golf course, a deer ran across the lawn, completely lost in thought, and was not at all impressed, and a young deer, still with white spots on its fur, stood by the side of the road and looked at us completely indifferently. If you had stuck your hand out of the car window, you could probably have petted it.
You could easily spend a day here. Sit somewhere, watch the pelicans and the surf. Look for great photo opportunities and don't just jump out at the designated points.
But since it gets dark in 2 hours, we unfortunately had to hurry here.
Inconveniently, there are only toilets at the end of the tour - in the Pebble Beach Visitor Center. We were doubly lucky and were allowed in quickly, after that it was 7 p.m. and they locked up behind us. On weekdays they are only open until 6 p.m.

Online advertised a $10 per car fee , but there was no fee when we went. Gorgeous views - can stop in Pebble Beach visitors center and there are places to stop and picnic along the beach during your drive.

Beautiful views with plenty of places to stop and take pictures. Public restrooms at some of the stops.

No matter how many times I visit this area, I have to make this drive. From the golf courses rolling terrain to the crashing waves, it is beautiful. A must see.

$12 to drive around a housing estate with views you can see for free along the coastal highway. Many other beaches in California that have free admission and are much nicer. Bad smell and dirty beach on Spanish bay.

The 17 Mile Drive is mainly known for the Lone Cypress, but the other viewpoints are also worth a visit. To get into this private area, you have to pay $12 per car at the entrance. Equipped with a map, you can then drive to the viewpoints. There are some very good photo opportunities.

The drive has many points of interest on it and they all show a different aspect of the coast.
Also by taking the time to stop it makes it more relaxing.
Lots of places to take some great pictures and do some walking as well.

As my wife and I drove on the 17-Mile Drive, we discussed that we didn't know what to look at: the homes on the left or the dramatic ocean views on the right. We were rubbernecking and taking frequent breaks for pictures. This tour is well worth the $10.75 admission price/car. Our favorite thing was having a spot of lunch at the Stillwater Bar and Grill in the Pebble Peach Lodge.

There are a few entry gates to the 17 mile drive. I found the best was to enter on the coast by Pacific Grove. It costs $11.50 to enter, a map is provided. Take your time. There is ample parking at viewpoints, but we were there in November, not peak season. The coastline is stunning. I thought it was good at Pacific Grove, but 27 mile drive is even better. End the tour if you can at Carmel. A very attractive town, just don't try to but anything there without a bank loan!

Purely awesome. This is a must for any first-time visitor to the Monterey area. The path is well-marked with plenty of scenic pull-offs to take photos and explore. The Lone Cypress was probably one of my favorite spots, but each one is beautiful in its own way. The road takes you right by the Pebble Beach Golf Course, where there are a few restaurants/shops to get a bite to eat or stop for a snack. Definitely glad I can check this spot off my bucket list.

Honestly I was a underwhelmed. The majority of the drive is through residential area. It takes awhile to get to anywhere interesting. Are the beaches gorgeous? Yes. Maybe bring some picnic food and make more of a day of it. I just think the area has better things to offer than driving around that much.

After driving the coast up and down from San Francisco to Big Sur, the views on the 17 Mile Ride were disappointing. They are not worth the toll and worse still leaves you disappointed in what they have done here. Its gaudy, pretentious and a sad display of over development. There are no restrooms, restrooms adjoining the golf clubs that are on the route have pin codes!!! Imagine denying access to a restroom to a visitor. How disgusting. There are numerous new construction sites along the ride. More mansions. More development while they post signs about conservation. Its a sad display of humanity. Its kind of like a zoo for observing the worst of humanity and the pure greed and ego that it must take to destroy nature. Go to point Lobos and skip this travesty. The residents will thank you for it and otherwise they take $12.50 for letting you take a picture of the ‘Lone Cypress’ whose image is apparently copyrighted and they tell you it cant be repurposed. Message to the people who run this - just close it to the public, keep your pretense and destruction private.

We did the 17 mile drive when we were going down the Pacific Hwy. If you have time to do it you should but if you have to skip something this is what I would pick, there are far prettier views other places. You have to pay $12.50 a car to enter, its a gated community, they give you a nice map to follow and there are also alot of signs so its well marked. There are alot of beach pull offs and the wildlife is really friendly, we saw squirrels and deer none of which were afraid of us. There are a few nice views and photo ops. If you like to look at grandiose homes there are alot int he community or if you love golf courses then you may want to stop by. You can check out the pro shop too.

The best place on the ca coast for views and upscale homes. Amazing drive and photos. Yes u need to understand seasonal and daily fog patterns. So suggestion plan to go two days and spend the time when sun is out. Amazing place protected like the earth intended. Sea life protected and now more fawn fenced off and protected. Wish housing growth would be stopped. The best though. Stevens high school is.amazing if u want a private education too. Lodge at pebble and slone cypress, ghost point, and spanish bay ect on and on.
No on can say its not 5 stars.

Decided to drive 17-mile drive after our first visit 30+ years ago. Started at the Monterey entrance off HW1 and drove straight to Pebble Beach Visitor Center. There was a great display on the history of the area and of course golf. Well worth a stop. Restaurants and shops located here. Picked up some souvenirs. From here we drove north. The drive is well marked with a red lane marker on the road. The day was gorgeous and sunny. Many stops along the way to admire the coastline. Before the Pacific Grove exit we stopped for a late lunch at Roy's, located at the Inn at Spanish Bay. Used the $11.25 entry fee as credit towards the meal (need to spend a minimum of $35 which is not difficult). Wonderful view from their patio. At 5:45 pm the bagpipes were played to close out a day of golf. I recommend doing this at least once.

Maybe it was the weather...kind of overcast...but this drive did not live up to the hype for me. We took it from south to north so we ended it in Monterey. We missed several turns and had to go back. We didn't stop at Pebble Beach, so I cannot comment on that. Honestly we were expecting better views, but views we've seen on the Oregon coast had this drive beat hands down. We ended up wishing we had gone down to Big Sur instead.

Amazing experience. Gorgeous ocean views ,golf courses, Million Dollar homes and wildlife ,Bird life. We enjoyed it so much that we did the 17-mile drive twice in 2 days

Beautiful drive along the coast with multiple photo opportunities! Check out Carmel and Pfeiffer Beach also!!

I was mainly interested in the golf courses on the drive, and they are all on an elite level. Much of that is the stretch of land on this drive. It is not all fantastic, much of the drive is winding roads thru neighborhoods at slow speeds, though nice houses aplenty. Pebble Beach Golf links and resort is worth a visit even if you don't golf. Amazing piece of land on the ocean, shops, restaurants. Played golf at Spyglass, another elite property, and course, also has a restaurant, grill. Probably one of the nicest spots to eat, or have a drink is Spanish Bay. Golf course there also, but they have an outdoor patio overlooking the ocean and beach, and at sunset or so, a bagpiper plays. There is quite a lot of seating - very cool. Tons of deer in the area.

Wonderful drive with great views and spots to pull off, the map they give you was quite well done - was fun to see all the houses and golf courses also

Went on the ride today and was so happy I found this before we left town. The views were amazing and the history was nice to learn. Would recommend to anyone visiting the area.

Iconic drive is lovely and worth the time to do even if you're not a golfer. Interpretive map was a huge help.

Our trip to Monterey/Carmel was great. Weather was perfect! We went to the fabulous Monterey Aquarium & took the back of the house tour…so informative & interesting!
Also drove the 17-mile drive…scenery was so beautiful! Keep your eyes out for the route signs…there was a little road construction which made some of the turns confusing and I recommend going early because parking becomes tougher as the day progresses.

This is the best drive…go counterclockwise, so the best sights are at the end, including lone cypress. The houses are beautiful and expensive but the scenery is even better. Well worth the $10.75.

So many places to stop and take beautiful photos. Worth the time… it was especially inspiring for my husband, as he is into golf, and, of course, the pebble beach golf course is a golfing Mecca.

I want to do the tour 17 miles with my wife, who knows where the reference point is where they deliver maps and information about it? They say that at the beginning of the 17 miles but not exact, thanks

Complete drive is maintained and beautiful, there are white sand beaches as well.
Restrooms, one will get in pebble beach visiting center only so plan accordingly.

This is a must-do in Monterey. There are great views of the ocean and wildlife. Make sure to stop along the way at various points to see the wildlife in the water.

The drive surpassed my expectations. We aren’t golf people, but $12 entrance fee is well worth it for the views. From the lookout points we were able to see seals, sea lions, and otters! The pamphlet they give is also helpful to provide a bit of history.

This was recommended as something to do whilst in Carmel and it didn’t disappoint. There are some amazing views along the way and we even saw a whale! The Pebble Beach stop was a little disappointing and the snacks we bought were not cheap. However, overall it was really worth doing and a great way to spend a sunny afternoon.

If you're in the area, make sure to do this drive.
We entered in the Pacific Grove gate and were provided a map with all the stops with our entry fee. In addition to the views, the stops provided information displays that made it even better.
With the ocean on one side and the golf course on the other, in addition to beautiful homes among the rolling landscape, it was an enchanting drive.

We have dined twice at the Bench restaurant in the last two days. Yesterday at 1:00 pm, at the entrance of 17-mile drive from Carmel's side, the person at the gate used abusive language to me next to my guests in the car. We had to pay the entrance fee despite the fact that we had a reservation at the restaurant. It was just an horrible experience.

When you see the white surf of the Pacific Ocean and the blue skies and seas as well as the spring yellow and purple flowers, it is an appealing and uplifting experience. The various stops on the way neatly explained also make this tour worthwhile.

OK it is a pretty drive, but just after driving route 1 from Pismo to Monterrey I can hardly call it spectacular! Also $11:75 to see it is a rip off. Nice views, opportunities to see Sea Lions at a distance, reasonable beaches. Personally I won’t bother to do it again.

A must-see with dramatic views of spectacular coastline. The Pebble Beach Visitors Center is an ideal way to end drive.

One can do the hour drive over and over again but one should do it once in a life time while visiting California. There are a few entry points with a fee arround 11 dollars per car which is worth a charge.

We drove the 17-mile scenic route through Pebble Beach this weekend and we really enjoyed all the sights. You get a tour map and get to stop at the various locations along the way. An outstanding way to spend an afternoon.

We went on the 17 mile drive because of the hype not knowing what we were going to see on the drive. After paying our entrance fee, yes there is a fee to take the drive we went to the visitors center to find out that we would see golf courses, nice houses and coastline views. Well, we are not golfers and can see beautiful houses for free almost anywhere if that interested us. We began our California trip in Big Sur and saw beautiful coastline vistas for free! If we knew this was the case we would have saved our $12 and bought ice cream in Carmel. On another note the drive was not clearly marked and we ended up lost in the neighborhood several times. It looks like they have a very nice high school.

Did the drive on a beautiful sunny day. Stopped at Pebble Beach for an outdoor lunch. This a wonderful half day stop over on our Pacific Coast Hway drive from San Francisco to San Diego.

This is worth a trip if you have spare time, especially if you’re a golf fan, but I don’t think it’s a “must do” and isn’t as spectacular as the Big Sur views. It took us a couple of hours.
It’s $11.75 per car, but unfortunately the man at our entry point was very grumpy and rude (I have no idea why!).
There are some good views of the coast line, and of sea lions on the rocks. There is also the opportunity to see the first tee of Pebble Beach and a good visitor centre there as well.

My husband & I left the kids at hotel and went on this drive on a Friday AM. There was almost no traffic and we cruised through quickly. Wish we would’ve stopped at more places at beginning. (Started at Pacific Grive gate) bird rock & the Lone Cyprus are must stops and we loved all of the famous golf course stops as well!

It's a drive not to be missed.
ALWAYS start at the "Pacific Grove Gate"
(just say "navigate to 17 mile drive Pacific Grove Gate" in your GPS.
But have breakfast first at Aliottis Victorian Corner Restaurant in charming downtown Pacific Grove.

It was a very nice drive. We went early in the morning so it wasn’t as crowded which was nice. There were a ton of see lions to see.
If you eat at one of the pebble beach restaurants you can get the entrance fee deducted from the bill.

Beautiful, breathtaking views. There are a lot of great eateries. The town is cute filled with friendly people and fun things to do. I recommend renting an e-bike and riding instead of driving the 17-mile.

There are many great road trips to be enjoyed and this is one of the best. In a very short 17 miles, awesome scenery.

We drove this in our 30 foot RV and loved every second! I was concerned about the twists and turns but we felt very safe driving the roads. We saw so many beautiful beaches and the Lone Cypress tree. Tons of places to stop off and hike and take photos. We purchased the "17 Mike Drive Days Trips" travel app on my iPhone and hooked it into our radio and it felt like we were on a tour bus! At the end we exited to Carmel and drove the scenic route, which was the perfect ending to this drive!

Worth paying 12 bucks at the entrance. Lovely scenery and very clear directions from the map you get at the gate. It takes about 3 hour drive, but we did a lot of stops in each station and took us 4 hours. Really worth our time.

We drove through, stopping at some of the view points along the way. It was nice, but we probably would have appreciated it more if stopped and walked some of it.

It is well worth $11.25 cost to spend an hour or two driving and stopping at all the beautiful scenic spots along the 17 Mile Drive. We even stopped for lunch and some shopping, but that is the next review! My pictures told the story and I will attach some of my favorites for you to my review. Due to technical difficulties with the TA site, I will have to add my photos at a later date.

The 1st 2 stops were clearly marked. It was a guessing game after that. We missed stops 3- 14. Not worth the $12. Do not recommend.

Bike trip was amazing. Our tour guide Alex was wonderful and very knowledgeable of the marine life on our trip. On another note, this bike shop was amazing. We originally scheduled the tour on a different date but due to rainy weather coming in, they were very accommodating and changed our time to an earlier day. Can’t thank them enough.

Lovely view of the coast. Plan to spend 3 hours. Must visit.
You have to pay an entry fee of about $10.

Kind of sad they feel the need to charge to drive on this road. But it was a nice drive and perhaps it does keep some vehicles from entering.

I did the 17-mile drive with my wife coming from Pacific Grove and it was fun. We both enjoyed it a lot. I did have to pay an entrance fee for the vehicle. There are 3 entrances to the drive. The route we drove took us along the coast first then inland, through beautiful mansions. We did this drive twice but didn't have to pay the second time around. I highly recommend it.

We had heard a lot about this drive and were very eager. Although there are some great things to see, to pay $10.75, to drive 17 miles and have construction along the way or detours, was not a lot of fun.

A short but very interesting stretch, as it is beautiful, amidst trees and mansions. Ideal for making going from Monterrey and Carmel. It's worth seeing.

Nice drive through the Pebble Beach property. We paid the money, but not sure why. I would think the gold course is doing fine without the fee, unless it's to keep the curious out.
A bit foggy on the day we went in August, but still a beautiful drive. Lot of opportunities for photos. Starts out slow, and you might wonder why you're there. Once you turn around a few bends and come up to the ocean, it's very beautiful. Each stop has something to offer, and the Lone Cyprus at the end is pretty lovely.

Always an amazing drive. Never gets old. Absolutely nothing compares to the California coastline. Not to come off as xenophobic, but 90% of the people taking pics or experiencing the beaches, rocks and general areas are from India or Asia. It’s really astonishing when you consider that the area is the stronghold of white privilege. Power to the people, no matter where from..

We arrived early in the morning for this drive after reading there could be lots of people and it was a great time to be there. There were a few other people but many stops we were alone. There was a bit of fog off and on but that led to some great photos. It can be windy along the route.

While some of this drive is beautiful, enough of it is congested with multi million dollar mansions that the beauty is lost. We liked seeing the lone Cypress and other vistas but Lobo Point State Park is way more beautiful and just $10. South of Carmel by a mile or two.

You have to pay to drive 17-Mile Drive. There are places to pull over and stop. It was pretty, but not any prettier than HWY 1 which is open and free.

We started in afternoon and finished the drive in around 4 hours. The whole drive was full of great views of sea, rocks, sea birds, seals sea lions, trees under nature. Our whole family group enjoyed it. Sunset was beautiful in the evening from The Lone Cypress point.

We enjoyed the drive and scenery. Great view points, all very scenic and unique. Great photo opportunities. Not to be missed while in the area.

An easy way to see some fantastic views. A few places to stop for a picnic. I would recommend bringing your picnic with you. Beach at Spanish Bay stop is probably the best for lunch. There's a great boardwalk to walk along so you don't have to walk in the sand if you don't want to.

Just spectacular. Worth the entry fee. Amazing well marked, beautiful views, spectacular homes, and the opportunity to see a couple of the best golf courses in the world
This is a “must do” if you visit the Monterrey Peninsula

We have just had a week in the area and drove on the 17 Mile Drive a lot during that time.
It truly is a lovely drive, some magnificent coastal and forest scenery.
Drive through some lovely towns and see superb golf courses.
Had some nice hours enjoying the different beaches you come across.
Go do the drive when your in the area, should not be missed

This was one of the most phenomenal experiences I have ever had. I was also extremely lucky it was a beautiful sunny day.
Spanish bay was potentially one of the most beautiful places I have seen in my life and of course, as a golf enthusiast was extremely excited to spend hours in pebble beach wandering around, watching golfers, eating food, visitor center and so on.
Each stop has a story and is worth seeing. Make sure that you plan for a full day to do this as it is worth every second.

This is a very pretty drive along the coast providing scenic stops along the way. There is a fair amount of home construction going on and I’m really not sure why there is a fee to enter but I would still say that it is worth it.

From the Pacific grove side the first 10 or so stops up until maybe cypress point is nice. There's clear views of the ocean much of the way. After that it closes in to house primarily with a few spots to see the ocean here and there. I'm not convinced this part of the coast is more spectacular that the drive around the Monterey peninsula or point lobos or big sur.
But if it's a clear day (easier to get these in the winter on the coast instead of the summer) it can be a nice option. If you're a big golf fan also a good option.

it's a drive along the Pacific ocean. Lots of great views, stops, food and lodging options. whatever you want to do, it's here.

If you are in Monterey, you really must do this scenic drive! I think I stopped at every overlook and was in awe every time. Great views of the rocky coast, cypress forests, beautiful homes, and the famous Pebble Beach golf course.
Classic visit destination
Really fun with some great places to stop and take some pictures. Loved the places aruond the drive to grab a drink and a quick bite.
