Had the opportunity to visit the museum while visiting Fayetteville. Must say it was well worth it and brought back so many memories of 20 years assigned to SF at Bragg. Forgotten memories came flooding back when I saw pictures and faces of people on the wall that I served with and knew. Goose bumps came over me, recalling experiences.
This was a long over due visit, having left the area almost 30 years ago. It was well worth the visit and I salute those involved in creating this museum of history that displays the sacrifices made by the soldier in defense of this great country.
I also SALUTE the volunteers who sacrifice their time to make this place an memorable visit for the old soldier and his family upon their return.
Highly recommend everyone visiting the Fayetteville area to stop by and see what history has recorded of the Airborne and Special Forces soldier.

The exhibits and layout of this museum are top-notch. The history of Special Ops is amazing as are the people who serve. I didn't have young children with me, but I believe even they would be "wowed."

I love museums, especially military museums. This one is among the best, with focus on WWII era. A little light post-WWII.

Family friendly, though probably not for kids under 10 or so (no rides or kids activity). A moving and well balanced history of the special forces. The displays mix artifacts and stories in a nice balance that appealed to both the readers and the browsers in our group. The architecture of the building is worth the free stop in, and the museum will keep most visitor's attention for 90 minutes or so.

Downtown Fayetteville is proud of this great educational museum! It offers a very nice tour of different wars of which the US has been involved. It's a must see for those locally who have not been there and a great place to take out of town guests for a free and interesting outing!

My husband and I moved to Raleigh recently and have been investigating the areas around us. We took an afternoon and drove over to this Museum, as I have a total love and fascination for all things military and World War II. This place was amazing. Did not have enough time to see and read and look at everything I wanted to. If you have a few hours free definitely check this place out. Can't wait to come back.

Absolutely beautiful facility that showcases some of America’s finest and most elite soldiers! A must See!

Very worthwhile venture, but all the info was almost overwhelming, should take it slow if you want to absorb and see it all.

Went here today for the K9 commando book reading and got to watch 2 SOF dogs do their thing in a demo. Walked thru the museum after the demo. Very cool place

Been to many Army Museums and this is the best by far it is well worth the time. It is free and very in formable. They also have a simulator for a small fee. Take the kids you will enjoy it just as my kids and I did.

Covers WW1, WW2, Korea, Vietnam and later. In addition to the historical postings, each exhibit had the actual uniforms and weapons on display. A C 47 hung from the ceiling. A real glider unloading an armed Jeep. History you could almost touch.

Looking for something interesting to do in the area on our way to Florida,
we came upon this museum, of which we were unaware existed.
First, it is FREE!
Second, the architecture is stunning and grand.
Third, I didn't realize there was so much to learn.
We watched an interesting documentary about Black Hawk Down
in a pleasant theater that rotated different films.
And there was a small exhibit on the 12 Horse
Soldiers, based on the book of the same name about Army Special Force who rode to war on horses against the Taliban.
Also interesting wall of information on the Medal of Honor.
The exhibits that span the years of military operations
are well laid out with lots of information, lifelike models and murals
and historical photographs. Lucky for us, we pretty much had the museum to ourselves
on this particular day, which was quite nice. Highly recommend spending a couple hours here!
much to learn.

It was nice and clean facility, and we enjoyed the games and rides. I wish there was a little more for rides because they were twenty dollars but it was an ok experience.

This was such an amazing place! My husband is a big fan and my children also enjoyed the museum! It is great that the entrance fee was by donation only and we made sure to leave a good donation! If you are ever in the area this is a must visit! Thank you to all the men and women who are serving our country!

If you ever wanted to learn about Airborne/Special Ops, this is an absolute must see! The history is presented professionally and thoroughly. Very, very well done displays. There is a lot to see so allow over an hour if you want to read and see everything. Excellent museum. It is free but a donation is appreciated. This museum is part of the America's Hometown Passport Program for Cumberland County so children can collect stamps from places in the area. You can pick up one here to get started. Don't miss the NC Veteran's Park just in front of this museum. Be sure to stop in the building there and see the dog tag display.

Great place, so much history, state of the art facilities.Several staff members came the desk and he was thanked for his service and then presented with the pin.Thank you so much for recognizing veterans for their service to our country.

This is great place to visit. Please share this with out of town visitors. I attended around Memorial Day when the flags were up in The Field of Honor.

This was my second time to the Airborne and Special Operations Museum. The first time I was there I was not able to see everything due to other commitments. The new flag room that opened is very impressive.

I took my son-in-law and his father to this museum not sure that they would enjoy this since neither of them have any exposure to the military. They ended up staying over 3 hours! The exhibits are outstanding in that they feature the recreations of several major military engagements. One depicts a trench from WW I that you can walk through or a street somewhere in a village in Vietnam. It's the closest most of us will ever get to experiencing what it must have been in those environments (minus the possibility of enemy attacks of course) Well worth a visit!

This is a must visit place if visiting Fayetteville, NC. Very educational exhibit for all ages. Well laid out and great staff to answer any questions that you may have. Nice gift show with items that are not overpriced.

The C47 plane hanging from the ceiling was great. All of the displays were authentic looking and they were out in the walking areas. Very well done.

This is the closest thing to a Smithsonian like museum in our area. They have some cool events and its a good way for kids to really understand Fort Bragg's role in history.

To travel through the different wars and to see exhibits shown the way they are is masterful. a great experience and a lot of history to be learned

This was a great place to learn more about several wars or conflicts. We were Amazed at the items you could view. Will go back again.

We recently spent several hours touring the museum, viewing the exhibits and experiencing the “thrill ride”.
The exhibits, which cover more than 70 years of airborne and special ops warfare, are first rate. The models are so realistic that I was tempted to talk to a couple of them! The historical coverage was very informative, with some tales that aren’t widely known. I hope the local schools take advantage of this great resource.
There isn’t much motion or action, however, just a couple of historical videos-interesting for adults who care about such things, but if you bring youngsters along, be prepared for some complaints.
Across the rotunda from the museum displays is a theatre. A number of films are shown there throughout the day—titles and schedules available at the visitor counter. We watched a 14 minute film, “Descending from the Clouds” (or skies, not sure). We found that to be interesting, particularly the capabilities of the helicopters.
Also across the rotunda is a “thrill ride”, that, for $8 adults, $5 children, puts you in immersive 4D combat, parachuting from a plane and landing hard, sweeping the forest with machine gun fire in low-flying helicopters, and cruising really fast on a river boat while barely avoiding enemy gunfire. The show was ok, but pricey for 10 minutes. And, if you have a bad back, the ride can be jarring.
All in all, an educational, informative experience. I’m going with four stars as a penalty for the pricey thrill ride.

One of the best Museums I’ve ever been too and it’s free. They do an extremely good job here. Humbling experience.

This museum is a must see when in Fayetteville. There are permanent displays and also temporary displays that change periodically. I have actually been to the museum several times and have valued each visit. There is no actual charge, it is donations.

The only issue I had with this museum is that it is data and map heavy. Of course, wars are data and map heavy, but after the 50th map and text filled with stats, you glaze right over and the later wars, well, we just couldn't focus on them. If I redid the place, I'd put far more individual and group recollections.

I had the good opportunity to visit the museum. The displays are very interesting and there are parts where the displays are part of where you walk as you progress through the various phases of history. The museum was free unless you elect to sit through the simulator. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. This is a must see if you are in or near Fayetteville.

Worth the time to visit. We got there a hour before closing but were able to go through. We suggest giving it 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours.

This is a cool place to go if you enjoy military history. There are tons of things to look at and its free! Bring a donation.

The museum is beautiful, and very educational. It is a great place for a class or family to visit, because it provides a lot of things to see.

On My Visit with my nephew, currently stationed at Fort Bragg, Home Of The Airborne and Special Operations Forces, we were not disappointed. The Museum admission is by donation which makes it affordable for families. The Airborne Museum covers from
WW 2 to present day with exhibits, I was very impressed at the displays.

Great place to check out some cool military history and equipment. We take everybody who visits us to the museum. Super friendly staff. One of the best places in town.

This museum is free but donations welcomed. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by a volunteer who asked where we are from and if we have been before. He sent us to the front desk where I was greeted by a very funny volunteer again who showed us and explained the map. As soon a I walked in also I was taken away by the atmosphere of military parachutes and models hanging. Then you can walk through an interactive museum from D Day to Gulf war. My teenagers were actually interested in all the machinery and ways of living during that time. They do have a cinema for military movies inside and also a gift shop. In there you can donate $25 to sponsor a flag on their main lawn. I loved every minute of it.

My husband was in the area for a work training, but we had some free time. It was a rainy day and this is a great thing to do on a day like that. Loved the exhibits!

I'm not at all into military types of things but I'm an architect so I went in just to see the building. I was impressed with the building but also the displays. I felt it was a very sensitive place. The building is beautifully done and the displays do not glorify war, rather honor those who had to fight in them.

What a neat place to visit. Friendly staff and lots of great history! Will return again when I have more time.

I attended a Chamber event here last month. The space was well decorated and very open. The theater adds a special touch not found in most other venues.

The museum is free to walk through and the actual time period pictures of airborne and special operation soldiers in action throughout the world in operations of all sorts. The amount of information available gives a museum goer a good idea of what these soldiers are capable of and what they do. There was a good exhibit on air dropping heavy equipment, which showed and explained how the equipment survives impact with the ground by supports breaking to break the impact. The simulator is a great experience for children probably 12 and under as it gives an idea but is a bit tame for adults. The price is not bad $12 for both experiences or $8.50 for only one. The gift shop has some interesting things and some great t-shirts and coffee mugs. If you want a book signed by the author, the store has a good many of them - at least about ten or fifteen different books signed by the author. The museum also has donation boxes and is worth a few of your dollars to continue to develop displays.

A large well done museum if you're interested in army airborne. Unfortunately my visit coincided with two bus load of elementary students. No doubt they derived some value from their visit, but they impaired mine. Maybe another day. I noted that most of the clothing in gift shop was made in Vietnam; there's a message here.

If you visit military museums this is a must if you’re in the Fayetteville Ft. Bragg Area. Even if you’re not make a detour and go. Great historical presentation of airborne, air mobile, special operations and it’s history. There is a real Douglas C-47 in D-Day colors inside the building. The displays are detailed with maps, photos, movies and unit information. It’s free, but give a donation.

We spent 2 full hours in the museum. It's very well done and worth a visit. We learned a lot and came away with a much deeper understanding of this branch of the US military. Before you leave, check out the park in front of the museum honoring POW's, & the stature honoring military service dogs.

The Special Operations museum is an outstanding place to visit when family comes to visit. They always have a great mixture of Airborne and Special Operations exhibits. Nice gift shop to buy swag

This place was very impressive. It's free and bigger than you would expect. Displays are very well done from floor to ceiling. Lots of different things represented here. You can't miss Iron Mike out front. They also sometimes have visiting displays from local school kids or others. Nice gift shop here. Big flag display around Memorial Day outside. Lots of parking.

One of the best attractions in Fayetteville NC. Great selection of military history on our airborne and Special Forces soldiers from Ft Bragg.

Great display of our Military Campaigns. This museum will enlighten young and old alike from WWI to present day. Shows the evolution of weapons and other equipment as well as gives an understanding of the perilous conditions these Soldiers had to endure. IMAX Theatre and Simulators to bring a more intimate connection and understanding of the life of a Army Solider. Well done.

WOW, what a fantastic place! I spent 3 hours in the museum. Great displays to honor the Airborne & Special Ops. This is the way a military museum should look! Like the layout and the ability to skip around if you want to avoid other groups without feeling crowded. Awesome detail regarding the different campaigns and operations, especially of WWII. Gift shop was good, Entire place was spotless and looked new. Staff was friendly and helpful. Great greeting as you arrive inside the building. Lots of parking right beside the museum. Would have liked to seen an area that allowed you to purchase water/soda and snacks for those who planned a multiple hour visit. I understand and agree with the reason for not allowing any food/drink inside the display area of the museum. Maybe establish a room farthest from the display area where food/drink can be purchased and only consumed in the same room. One of my favorite museums I have visited. Will return with friends!

Went here with our son who is stationed in Ft. Bragg. A very nice museum if you are interested in military history, especially Airborne and Special Operations. It's free, but of course, leave whatever generous donation you can afford.

Modern, large scale museum, with many excellent visual displays. Complete history of special ops-paratroopers. Spent 3 hours and could have spent longer.

This was really an unexpected find. The exhibits were interesting and very informative. Well worth visiting.

I have truly enjoyed visiting Fayetteville's Airborne & Special Operations Museum. It has lot of exhibitions on display.

Went on a rainy afternoon. Very inspiring and uplifting. the museum is extremely well done with tableau of the various exploits of the Ariborne Troops.

We really enjoyed our visit to this museum. I loved the outside and knew the inside would be great too. Iron Mike is definitely not something that will be forgotten. We had four children, 13 and under. They enjoyed it too. I could have spent several hours inside the exhibit reading everything, but that will need to be another visit. We also took the kids on the simulation ride which they really enjoyed. It was shorter and a little less intense than I expected, but worth the money since the exhibit is donation only.

My son & I went for what we thought was a special D Day exhibit, but little, if any, was added to permanent exhibit. Still, he enjoyed Memorial Day flag display outside and NC Vet Memorial, although a lot of the fountains are not working, due to Hurricane Matthew & Florence damage still not repaired. We would have appreciated a docent like they have previously provided, but there were helpful greeters in the lobby area.

I had been in town for work, but wanted to take time out of my afternoon to visit this important museum. I wasn't disappointed. When you walk up to the entrance you are greeted with all kinds of memorial stones that have been placed by the curators, and pay tribute to family members that have served the Airborne. This is probably one of the most incredible military museums I have visited. You can tell from the design of the building, a lot of thought and caring went into it.
When you go inside you are greeted by a huge parachute extended and hanging from the ceiling. I can't imagine what it may have been like to be on the ground seeing 100 of these men coming at you! Beauty and terror about to drop on your head.
As I progressed through the museum it takes your through the history of Airborne down through the decades. It is a great example to see what kind of equipment was used from WWII on through Korea, Vietnam, and into the Gulf Wars, and beyond. Each display is well lit and gives you a great representation of the type of warfare each decade brought.
The insignia is really interesting. There were all kinds of designs of different flags, and badges that in my opinion, are one of the most interesting aspects of military.
whether you are into weapons or heavy machinery, or just the human aspect of what these brave men and women do, this museum is sure to have something that interests you. I would say allow about an hour and a half to go through this museum and not feel rushed. I showed up less than an hour from closing, so I wasn't asked for any kind of an entrance fee, but I don't think this museum charges a fee for entrance usually. I definitely say you should check this one out.

My husband was in the Army Airborne and served in Vietnam. When we entered the museum the desk person asked if my husband had ever received the Vietnam metal for his service. He had never received one. Several staff members came the desk and he was thanked for his service and then presented with the pin. It was a very touching moment for both my husband and me. Thank you so much for recognizing veterans for their service to our country.

This museum highlights the Airborne and SOF of the United States Army. It offers a great look at the special training and advanced warfare implemented by Army Special Forces while also highlighting the intense training of becoming an Airborne soldier. Full of historical, as well as modern, military equipment, this museum does well at paying tribute to the 101st and 82nd Airbone.

Being married to a jumpmaster we really had no choice but to visit....but it an outstanding museum the whole family enjoyed. We took advantage of the combo simulator experience- worth the $!

I thought this museum was great. The walk from World War II through today was a great experience. So much to learn and see. You need an hour minimum

Felt important to pay homage to our soldiers because Fayetteville is such an army town. Impressive museum-well curated. Lots of interesting facts and makes history come alive.

A must see for anyone interested in the military or Airborne and special operations in particular. If you don’t feel the patriotism here, you may not be alive.

Awesome museum. Covers Airborne and Special Operations Forces. Some very nice displays - movies covering from WW II to present. One section changes periodically to keep you coming back for more.

Awe-inspiring museum if there every was one. Don't forget to visit the K9 memorial located on the opposite of the Iron Mike statue in front of the museum.
The photos of soldiers are a favorite. One can easily spend hours looking at those faces of brave young Americans doing their duty for this great country of our. My only nit is the use of molded, replica rifles. The staff is good and the parking, excellent.

The Museum is easily accessible and very interesting. It traces the history of the Army Airborne with great visual effects and displays of authentic items. Free admission and well worth the time.

A well put together museum in downtown Fayetteville that offers good insight and facts about special operations and how they have changed overtime. Great place for a history buff or just an enjoyable afternoon with the family. Very clean facility and always friendly staff.

I’m a French military and I really loved to see the history from the US point of view. A lot of reproductions, everything is very nicely made and conserved :)
Loved it !

Really well laid out museum. I have visited several times and they change things each time I have been there.

Very informational on our history. Staff is very nice and helpful. they have movies to watch and teach. Simulator you can purchase a ticket for. The museum is Free.

I absolutely loved this beautiful museum. The simulator was so much fun. I wanted to go on it again. I went with my brother . He is retired special forces airborne. I t was so interesting learning about all of the the things in our history that he and his fellow soldiers were apart off. I walked in as a proud American . I left even prouder of these men and women and the sacrifices that they make for our freedom. Hero's, each and everyone of them. I really enjoyed talking to a World War Two veteran while I was visiting. It was an honor to speak with him and thank him for his service. Well done I will return on my next visit

For a free museum this place is great! It gives the history of the Airborne and Special Ops units of the army. Lots of good displays and information.
Well worth the visit

I’d heard this was a great museum - and I was in Fayetteville so I took my 3 young children to check it out.
The oldest is 9 and it wasn’t quite fun for them but the place was great for young teens and up.
Great exhibits that go through the history of the airborne units and special forces. Staff was very friendly and the facility was clean and well laid out.
If you’re in Fayetteville - highly recommend this great collection of history as part of your trip

This museum is well designed and always clean. We’ve probably been a dozen times and we always enjoy it and learn something new every time. It’s free with a paid simulator which is reasonably priced and fun. If you haven’t been it is definitely worth your time.

Walking through the museum is like strolling through the history of wars. Large displays create the scene as though you were there.

I only wish I had more time to read all the great information. The exhibits were very well done containing personal stories from soldiers and events from 1940s-2000s. They have a huge variety of exhibits including videos, pictures, artifacts and displays with vehicles, a huge airplane, ATVs, a glider and a helicopter. There was also a PoW exhibit which I hope they keep as a permanent exhibit so we never forget the studies of perseverance and survival. We went with our young daughter and as expected, not especially relevant fir young children but she still asked a lot of questions and we really e joyed it.
I would highly recommend visiting for all ages. Plan on spending 1-3hrs depending on how much I you are Kreisler to read.

enjoyable drive with the kids to a great day for my boys
lots of interesting facts and helpful folks

Now I may be a little biased, as I am a former Paratrooper, but this museum was amazing. Incredible displays and tons of information. The museum is well organized and easy to navigate. There is an amazing collection of Airborne and Spec Ops related memorabilla. I have been to a lot of military museums and this one was one of the best. Don't miss this one!

My military-obsessed 9 year old and I stopped here with some time to kill while on vacation. I was pleasantly surprised by how much was there. We learned a lot and my son was in heaven. We were, however, disappointed by the "virtual reality" movies. We were sure it'd be worth it, so we plunked down our $24 for both movies and they were pretty outdated and disappointing. I couldn't even tell what was going on or what was what in them. I would not recommend paying for those. Still, the exhibits were informative and well done.

This museum stands as a tribute to all those who served and continue to serve in certain areas of the Army. Iron Mike, a quite large metal statue of a soldier, welcomes you at the entrance. As you enter you will see a model of a soldier attached to a parachute hanging from the ceiling. This is a reminder of the many paratroopers who have jumped into enemy territories on our behalf. The museum winds through, taking.you on a journey of airborne and special operations history with visual displays and written history. If you ever served in the army or other branches of the military, this grand museum is worth the visit. You may even find a name on one of the pavers outside of someone you know.

Love the history and patriotic pride - and all the dedicated (and a little kooky) volunteers and staff. They really care for the Vets.

Is a great place for the kids to go and have a good time. It shows a lot about the military and the history of it. It shows all the major war and what the airborn and special forces did to change the outcome.

This museum was absolutely awesome, even our five year old granddaughter was intrigued by the exhibits she saw. We were there about four hours which allowed us time to leisurely tour the museum. Highly recommend. And since my husband was an airborne ranger back in the 1970's, it had special meaning for us.

The ASOM is a great place to re-live the struggle and ingenuity of warfare as it applies to Fort Bragg and it’s units. The museum covers from WWII to present conflicts and the exhibits are amazing.

Spent a couple hours there late September 2017. We could look at the exhibits at our leasure as there were very few people there. Odd because it is a very nice museum that honors our special military heros.

Several of our friends decided to go and visit the museum one weekend, and it was just awesome! We live here and we are all retirees from the Army and Air Force. It was just an amazing experience for all of us. Everything was so real and true to fact. It was very emotional for some of us as you can imagine! A very great way to spend and afternoon or any time.

This museum should be called the "First Responder's of Freedom Museum". Many people are not aware of the importance or mission of the Airborne and Special Operations forces completely. We are more than just the Army, we are the United States 911!

Came on a Friday for a quick walk through. Not very crowded at all. The exhibits are well done and it's free entry. I wish I had more time I would have done the interactive exhibit and spent a little more time going through the museum.

Very cool to hear about the history of the airborne division of the army. Real equipment and realistic scenes with life-size soldiers. I learned a lot during this visit. It was pretty nice.

This place is amazing! If you give something infinite rating, this would be the place. Every high school kid or adult not ever exposed to some history about our airborne and SOG warriors should visit!

Always a great place to bring family and friends to see the evolution of airborne history and the great Americans that made it that way.

My first time there. The people were nice and I enjoyed the history. Even more rewarding because I went with my dad and they gave him a medal he was unaware that he should have received.
The displays are real life!
Fun treat for everyone

Very interesting museum dedicated to the Airborne and Special Operations community. A must for any historian when in Fayetteville, NC.

Excellent museum. Well put together. Musem offers wheelchairs for our elderly visitor. Great place to see

Plan to spend several hours to take it all in. The first part covers the history of founding the airborne program and transitions from WW2 through conflicts and wars through Afghanistan. There is a lot of reading and not a lot of interactive displays designed more for adults than kids. Staff is all friendly. We did the "simulators" and found the graphics blurry as if intended for 3D. I advise skipping those if you are subject to motion sickness.

The veterans at the front Welcomed us and honored us for our generations of family members that have served. We then had an amazing time looking back through the history of our service members and the equipment they have used to give us all the freedoms we have today.

The men of the airborne division are true heroes. This museum is so impersonal that they might as well have discussed robots. Every exhibit was the same, even if the battle was different. The heroes went in, they were brave, they contributed to the victory. I was very disappointed, the stories should have been told using diaries and personal memories so that the experiences of the participants came alive.

Great tribute to the service men and women of the airborne service. Don’t miss it or you will regret this. We visit it each time we come to Fayetteville.

A great museum commemorating the history of the US Airborne Troops and Special Forces. Free to the public, you can easily loose yourself for 2 hours with little to no effort walking through the exhibits.

This was an incredible museum!! They have put a lot of time and creativity into this museum!!! Each exhibit is perfect!! My gramps, 78, absolutely loved it and I loved it too!! We only had about an hour though and I would recommend allowing yourself at least 2-2.5 hours to really read and enjoy every exhibit!! It is also so perfect because it is even wheelchair accessible!!! I would take my children their especially if we were learning about wars and WWII, Korean War, Vietnam, Desert Storm, and Iraqi War. I only wish we lived closer!! I would also think that this would make for an incredible school tour!!!

so powerful, compelling, and immersive. Downtown Fayetteville has really done a lot the last 20 years to improve and this is the crown jewel.

Don't miss it as it had amazing things to show and you would have a feel what our army do to protect us.

Been several times. Always good reminder of what folks are doing in sacrifice for freedom. Best on special weekends.

Went to this free museum while in Fayetteville with my husband who is at Fort Bragg. Great exhibits. Easy to get around. Educational. Definitely worth a visit. I’d love to ho with my military adult boys someday.

My parents and I drove to Fayetteville, N.C. for a day trip while I was on Spring Break/Easter Vacation. As a child, my father and his family lived nearby in Linden, so we wanted to see if we could find the house and farm that my father and his family lived in during the 1940's.
The Airborne and Special Operations Museum has aircraft, weapons, uniforms, artifacts, etc. which are very well displayed. During the Korean War, my father was enlisted in the Army as a cook and he served our country in South Korea for about a year. My parents and I enjoyed the museum very much.
Also, the gift shop has a good selection of souvenirs. I wish the gift shop had a better selection of refrigerator magnets as my mother and I enjoy collecting them. There were photo magnets and some pricey pewter magnets, which we did not purchase.

Being close to Fort Bragg we could only assume that this would be a fine museum - it wasn't, it was great! Very informative, impressive and the work that has gone into this museum is amazing. From WWII to today, details about operations and interesting artifacts. If you are in the neighborhood, it's certainly worth a visit!

Beautiful Architecture presents to a newly renovated Downtown Fayetteville, a fascinating historical journey into the US Army. Well organized museum captures accurately uniforms, missions, maps, logistics and equipment used by our troops from all major wars and current conflicts. Great educational family trip. The Refurbished Downtown Main Drag has updated eateries, microbrews, and neat shops to check out . Great people watching cafes. A must see for all.

This place is so well done. We’ve been to the Smithsonian and Normandy and this place has it all. The simulator ride is bumpy (not for toddlers - too intense) and gives a great feel of being a passenger in an amphibious vehicle and a helicopter. It is a short ride but worth the $ for those who would like to know what it is like to be in combat without having to be there. The museum is very handicap accessible; I did it by electric scooter. If you can’t get to Normandy, this is a great place to go. Thank you, museum, for going past WW2 and right up to today’s conflict in Afghanistan. Admission is free.

My date is a former military soldier and he took me hee on our first date it was an amazing and interesting museum would go again.

I expected the museum to be nice, but the reality rides and the exhibits were beyond expectation. I will be visiting again!

This was a nice highlight to my trip and its free! The museum is modern and presents the history of the airborne forces in modern american conflicts. Many of the displays are amazing to see and touch.

My visit here was wonderful. I took a walk through of the Museum's displays of their version of various historical points in time that related to Airborne and Special Operations here in Fayetteville and around the world. Their come to life displays and talking points helped to put yourself in those moments during combat and made it an exciting yet eye-opening and real trip through our nations (and others as well) history through the past 100 years.
It'll take a good few trips to take in everything that the museum has to offer.

This was cool! Great for kids and adults alike. Really set up. The lifelike exhibits were amazing and made it fun for kids id say 4 and up , younger kids can of course of course go in the stroller. But for adults so many facts , neat environment and set up it just makes it fun

Stopped in with the family as we were visiting our son at Fort Bragg. Learned a lot about the history of the Airborne to modern team. If you have been at the Marine's museum at Quantico, VA. very similar in terms of how the exhibits were designed and laid out. Excellent job!!

Seeing this museum at this location is no surprise (Fort Bragg, and all). The building is architecturally interesting: huge on the outside, imposing and airlike at the same time. Spacious on the inside, although this proves to be a bit misleading as the exhibition is not as extensive as you would imagine. Still, provides a good insight into the history and main ops of Airborne.
The virtual "ride" is a must-do.
Admission if free, but you can make a donation.

I was impressed by how nice the exhibits are and the how easy they made it to learn about the history the men and women who fought in all the different eras its like taking a walk trough time.

The museum is free, unless you want to do the simulator or see the movie. It’s off base and always very crowded. Parking was nearly impossible to come by. Large gift shop. Located Across the street from Veterans Park and adjacent to Market House.

This is an amazing museum. It has a simulator. It is full of airborne and special operations history. The movies are very well done, too. We were fortunate to be there when a ceremony for a 5 tour Vietnam veteran was being honored.

I went with my grandson, a career military NCO, and some other family. A truly brilliant WWII museum with many, many outstanding tableaux displays commemorating various events during WWII.
There is no charge to enter but there is a container in which visitors can drop a donation--if they so chose. We did!!
There were many people in attendance during our visit in addition to volunteer docents.
Outside the building, there are paving stones which anyone can purchase to honor or commemorate a former military person. They range in price and the docents explained their purpose and investment cost.
If one finds themselves at Fort Bragg this is a must-see site and there will be no disappointment!!

Proud to have served and visited this Museum, It is free and you will not be disappointed they do offer tours but i like to walk through at my own pace, covers the history of the 82nd Airborne Division, And has exhibits on the Sf and Range units, plus a lot of displays. next door to it is the North Carolina Veterans Park a great day to reflect. i Recommend at least 2-3 hours to visit.

stop here if you are in the area. It's free and a donation is always welcomed. Very moving and my grandkids loved it.

I was there with my son who is in the Army at Fort Bragg. He enjoyed it. So much history in this place. Well, worth the visit. It is free to the public too.

Very nice museum, I brought my son and his friend when they were about 9/10 years old and we all enjoyed ourselves. This is a good history lesson for all ages.

You really need to be able to spend a fair amount of time and be patient reading all the information provided. Loved it.

My family have all served in each of the branches of the military including the US Army's 101st & 82nd Airborne units. We were at Fort Bragg in the early 1970s. This is an absolutely amazing museum that just keeps going on and on. Wear some good walking shoes and take your time because there is so much to see. It also has a gift shop. While the museum is free, they do ask for a donation if you can. Once you see the exhibits, you will make a donation to keep this museum going for decades.

My wife and I spent about 3 1/2 hours on Saturday. The displays, timeline and self-guided pace are all worth the trip.
So much history, so much national pride. As we got to the mid 20th century era, my wife cried, thinking of how her family members were there.
If you are ever in the area, this is a must visit.

I am a Fayetteville native and I've lived here majority of my life. Over the years the city has expanded so much and when the museum opened I wanted to see for myself.I learned more than I expected. I developed an even greater level of respect for all of the brave men and women who bravely and courageously serve(d)the armed forces.

Here is an idea that will impress Dad and save you some money. First take Dad to the US Airborne and Special Operations Museum in Fayetteville. Call and confirm but this was free when we visited on 13 April and it is a very cool museum. Plan to spend about 1.5 Hours. Then take Dad for a round of golf up the street at Stryker Golf Course. Many people think that they would need to go through security but you don't. We just did this with a large group and it was a very enjoyable day. You should call the course first and confirm a tee time.

This museum was so well done! I loved every bit of it. There is a decommissioned plane that you can sit in, we took pictures pretending to jump out of the plane. The battlefield displays are well done! The showcases with actual pieces that were used are incredible! What a great experience! I highly recommend this as tourist destination! Would make a great homeschool field trip too! You could have your kids pick a time in the history presented and have them write about it, create a powerpoint, or even make their own mini replica of the battlefields! Super fun! Another perk is that it is FREE to tour. It is recommended that you give a small $5 donation upon entrance, but not required. Your donation goes to maintaining the exhibits and the overall building.

Great museum with a lot of great mock-ups. It's not really geared for small children, but other than the loud noises, my grandkids enjoyed it. They even asked to walk through the exhibits again. Best of all, it's free!

Chronicled the wars from WWI through today. Was great information and had good exhibits. Free entrance fee. Takes about 1-2 hours to walk through depending on how much you read.

The museum has a lot of reading and it has movies to watch. It's great for information about the Army Special Forces.

I cannot say enough about our veterans present and past. Coming from a highly involved family through the generations, grandfather Marine, father Ranger, myself Marine, brother ranger, daughter Air Force Son yet to be determined. Many other friends in the military over the years upmost respect and this Museum was wonderful place to show that respect.

Great Museum! Takes you through the history of our Heros from WW1 up till now with the War on Terrorism. It's great that its right outside of Fort Bragg, plenty of the Soldiers go visit and its great to listen to them talk about their experiences. I had the pleasure of being around a Father and his 2 sons, the father was telling his sons about Battle Buddies and how the Soldiers handle different situations. Being an Army Brat, I found this awesome. Im sure the 2 boys are future Special Forces Soldiers. I just wish I had more time to check out the simulator. Unfortunately I was in town for work and limited on time.

Really good museum documenting the Army's warfighting history from WWII to present, focussing on the early special operations to current special operations forces. There are some great artifacts from spec ops history. Admission is free.

Even if you are not a military history buff you will enjoy this museum. It not only tells a great deal about the Airborne and their mission but it is packed with interesting details of the various wars and conflicts, especially WW II. It's free but they do take donations, which is worth it. It is very well managed and organized.

Just visited with a group of antique auto enthusiasts. What an amazing place. Lots of antique planes, military weapons, photos, up to modern operations and equipment that’s in use today. Walk in mock ups. Something to interest everyone. Also friendly , retired military docents with fascinating stories. If you are lucky, you’ll meet a docent named Rick Whitaker. Very friendly and knowledgeable. He answered lots of questions from folks in our group. Great place to visit. Free admission. Make a donation, they deserve it.

plan to spend a few hours, there is so much to see and ready and its beautiful. Everyone who works there has a great knowledge of everything. the gift shop was wonderful and i was able to send out post cards.

Fantastic and moving museum. Great way to walk through the history of Airborne and SOF in the US context and develop an understanding of where they are today. Definitely worth visiting. Give yourself time depending upon your own interest. 2 hours was a nice relaxed pace for me.

If you appreciate Military history, come here. It's a comprehensive overview of Airborne and Special Operations from WW II to recent operations. Easy to reach information overload. We will return in the future to walk through the second half more thoroughly. Children would enjoy seeing the life size military equipment. Welcoming and knowledgeable staff. Admission free. Closed on Mondays. Ample parking with room for a bus or RV.

Stopped by with the kids and a friend for a couple of hours of activity. The museum is free and donation-based. Exhibits are well done and maintained. There are a few statues outside to view as well and is walking distance from the "North Carolina Veterans memorial" which is not open Sunday or Monday but also has nice monuments. Recommend visiting with older kids, not much for the younger ones who get restless

World class museum. Great for children and adults
The virtual reality theater is amazing. Love the Visiting exhibits.

Interesting history of special ops. Free or $5 donation. Volunteer of retired servicemen was interesting to talk to also.

I busted the museum some days ago cause I’m in NC for work, so some friends told me it could be interesting to visit. I loved that place, it’s full of history, and it’s really well done! So if you’re around do not miss a visit at this fantastic museum!

A visit with Wow-effect. Everything well explicated. The material exposed, in very goid vindition. Based on a voluntary work, it shows the people are proud if their hero's.
A must to visit

Very detailed museum on the history of parachuting and the role of the special forces throughout history and today. Our teenaged sons really enjoyed it too!

Easy in and out very helpful staff. Son is in SOP training now. It was very informative to me as a parent.

Very interesting and alto of interesting artifacts. You and your family would enjoy. They have planes, uniforms, and planes. They do have a gift shop, it is free. Very educational. Look at the walls with the soldiers names on it. I would recommend it to everybody. Like I said it is amazing.they do have a place you can feel like you are flying and riding in an airplane. Right across from that is more walls and different things. Something nice to do on a rainy or boring day. Makes you feel better.

If you are passing through North Carolina this is a must see. They have audio when going through the museum. I'm a Vet and it brought chills going thru. Really great museum. Also outside the museum they have Iron Mike. awesome to stand by the statue and take pics, just really AWESOME..

My family and I broke up a long road trip by staying overnight in Fayetteville. Before getting on the road again in the morning, we took about 1 hour to visit this museum... we all enjoyed it very much! You could easily spend more time there. Giving a donation for our family (instead of having to buy expensive tickets) was helpful to our budget. My 10 YO and 12 YO found it just as interesting as my husband and I did. You walk through a series of rooms and displays which depict (chronologically) military operations, conflicts, technology. Displays include weapons, photographs, uniforms, vehicles. I especially loved the war posters/propaganda/art. We like to infuse educational experiences into our "fun" travels, and this was a perfect stop for such an experience and to honor the service of our military.

If you are in town for any reason, make this a stop during your trip. The museum is very well done and will take roughly an hour. I would go back next time I am in town.

This museum takes you through a history of airborne and special operations history by organizing a neat walk through timeline-style exhibit that included many exciting visuals and lots of educational reading materials as well. Given the amount of learning to be enjoyed and respected here, this may be overwhelming for younger kids or even teens without much interest in the subject area. Planning a 30-60 minute exposure walk through with kids or teens and explaining why it’s there would probably be good for Americans of any age, but if you’re wanting to enjoy it and take your time to learn as much as possible, I’d say it’s more of an individual, adult group, or couple type of experience. Best of all, the museum is free, so stop by at least once and learn what these exceptional men and women have contributed to our lives, and what they continue to deliver in the shadows while we all enjoy our freedoms.

This museum, which is in downtown Fayetteville, differs from the 82nd Airborne Museum on Fort Bragg in that the Ft Bragg Museum is specifically dedicated to the 82nd Airborne operations, where the ASOM is more comprehensive, combining the 82nd with Special Operations and Navy Seals activities. It’s a very interesting museum with excellent curators like Jimmie Hallis, who is very knowledgeable. The main lobby is very impressive with a full-size model of a parachuter.

This museum has the history of special ops told in many interesting ways. You can spend hours here. Best of all was talking to WWII vet who volunteers on Sundays. He was US Army Air Corp and will be 100 years old in a few weeks.

The history of this building is so very unique and interesting. This is one visit you will enjoy and remember. As a retired soldier, I was in awe.

In town to visit a nephew in the service at Ft. Bragg. He recommended this Museum. Presents the history of the Army Airborne. Very well presented. Interesting displays of real equipment. Everyone in our group enjoyed it.

Stopped here as we travelled north from Savannah - enjoyed the simulator - 2 films that are just a few minutes long - $8.50 for one or $12 for both films. Can easily spend an hour or 2 here

Very interesting museum of special ops. The museum is free with donations encouraged. There also was a WWII vet that was going to be 100 next week that you could talk to. Tons of exhibits. You can easily spend 3-4 hours here reading all the information on all of the different rooms. Highly recommend if you are anywhere in or near the area to go here. I plan on a return visit. There are also 2 simulators that looked interesting- there is a charge for them.

Our youth group on a mission trip in Fayetteville took a break from working on houses damaged/destroyed by Hurricane Matthew and visited this museum. We used a scavenger hunt (see museum resources) and found fascinating information throughout the facility.

This is one of my Top-3 Must See museums related to the US Army! The other two are the National Museum of the United States Army in Ft. Belvoir and the National Infantry Museum in Ft. Moore (formerly Ft. Benning). This museum is amazing! It’s enveloping using life-size dioramas and real vehicles, aircraft and mannequins dressed as soldiers and positioned into action scenes. The museum is absolutely packed with artifacts, equipment, weapons, memorabilia and exhibits that tell the legendary history of the US Army Airborne with a smaller focus on the Army Rangers, Special Forces and Delta Force. The museum is not small but not huge either. I spent 6 hours strolling through the displays, but you could probably see everything within 2 - 3 hours. The quality of the exhibits are in pristine condition and they just recently added a section dedicated to my wars, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Admission to the museum is free and parking is free and abundant. This is one of my favorite museums and I’ve been to 88 military museums so far. Check it out if you get the time.

We visited this museum on a Saturday afternoon with a three year old. Great exhibits enjoyed by adults and the little one.

Stopped to visit on our way through Fayetteville. We had a wonderful time, the kids love getting to see the exhibits. Definitely recommend.

This place is amazing. Very informative and spectacular. This is great for homeschool kids to learn and for your history buff. Glad I made the drive.

The Airborne and Special Ops Museum is a fantastic place to visit, love the layout, everything inside has a place in History, it is different than many Museums that I have visited. The only thing that I don't like about it is the location, the traffic on Bragg blvd can be very stressful therefore plan in advance. The best time to visit is friday in the morning. I love the place, it brought back many great moments. I think the museum is a must see if you are in the Fayetteville area.

What a wonderful tribute to these special men and women. Amazing trip through the history of Airborne and SF operations.

I took my 13 year old Grandson to visit this wonderful Military History Museum in June. This is a wonderful exhibit of all the wars Americans have been involved in. My Grandson thoroughly enjoyed our visit and it was a good opportunity to communicate about the history of the different wars and Americas involvement/ The actual exhibits were very life like and interactive. GREAT DAY!!!!!

This exceptional museum details the history of the Airborne and Special Operations units from World War II through the present. It is free to the public and is located near downtown and Ft Bragg. Great displays with real vehicles and airplanes. Kids will enjoy it as well. The staff were welcoming and the building is beautiful. It was an honor to visit here and recognize the military service personnel who have served us.

A great place for a guest lecture or a town hall type meeting. The auditorium has comfortable seats and good air conditioning. Sound system is strong and the screen size is adequate for clear views anywhere in the auditorium. Most important are the exhibits on the opposite side of the venue.
There are life-sized models in scenes from the various wars accompanied by audio and written information on this self-guided your. Explosions, gunfire, and human voices complete the authenticity of the scenes. Heroes from various ethnicities are highlighted. Videos of actual events and wounded soldiers in the scenes add to the realism.
So, if you have a business meeting in the airborne museum, go early or stay after the meeting for a tour. You will learn something, see something, and/or feel something new.

Although it does not take a great deal of time to explore the whole museum, it is certainly worth the visit. There are many interesting facts and photos to help you understand the life of the airborne and special operations soldier and how they've assisted the US throughout history. Well maintained, clean and easy to get to location.

Stopped with a friend whose father had served in WWII with the 82nd. I enjoyed the visit and the exhibits were outstanding. If anyone in your family served with the Airborne, whether 82nd or the 101st, or the other units, this is a worthwhile exhibit. It will provide you with an outstanding understanding of what your relative did.

This museum can be a quick trip or lengthier for the die hard history buffs! Check out nearby Fort Bragg for even better history!

Easy to walk through, many exhibits with lots of detail. Dioramas depicting important events in Special Ops and parachute history. I did not get a chance to try the flight simulator. No charge, donations are welcome.

Excellent customer service! Everyone was friendly and happy to answer questions. My husband and son enjoyed the simulation ride. Lots to see, and even with two schools in attendance, there was plenty of space for all! Gift shop had very unique things for sale. Totally enjoyable!

Wonderful museum, comparable to the Infantry museum at Fort Benning. Since my son is now a Green Beret, this place holds a place in my heart. There is lots to see, lots to learn, and a great selection of souvenirs to buy, including t-shirts, flags, and memorabilia. Don’t miss this!!

Very new and very organized museum, free of charge and good memories, for every soldier that is closed by need to see. Good parking and facilities..

I have traveled the country and visited many military museums, this one is another excellent example that educates the visitor. The Airborne and Special Operations soldiers are one of America's elite group of military. Seeing how they developed over the years, what operations they have been involved in is fascinating. The museum has lots of artifacts on display, many reenacted scenes with soldiers, vehicles, and weapons. Always humbling when you go around the displays to see how brave our fellow Americans have been in defending our freedoms!

This museum had good coverage of the operations, equipment and training since the inception of the airborne units. Facility was modern and information easy to follow. Staff were very helpful.

I enjoyed this museum very much. It is loaded with information about military events and history. Very cool displays too. The motion theater is really cool as well.

A wonderful place to learn about Military history. We take all our visitors to see this museum. There is no admission charge, just a donation if you wish. Beautiful grounds with multiple memorials to different wars. For a small charge you can take a ride in the military simulator. Definitely worth a visit.
For Memorial day and Veterans Day they have a field of flags set up -truly impressive.

Lots of stuff to see, well organized and thoroughly researched. Our family of 5 was easily able to spend 4-5 hours here. The fact that it's free is even more surprising. The museum itself is laid out so depending on your level of interest you can either get a general overview of each section by reading all of the captioned displays or if you feel like reading, can go deeper on each section. The full scale displays were also cool to see and walk through. The people running the museum were welcoming and also knowledgeable. (They also CRANK the air conditioning so it's a perfect summer spot)

Great condensed military history for special operations. I like the displays and explanations. Great place for families

I visited with my future mother-in-law as she really wanted to see this place while visiting us and if never been. There is so much history to be learned by visiting. It takes you through the many wars and conflicts in our American history. It even goes up to Iraq & Afghanistan which was nice to see as i am a vet. Definitely check this place out if you're in town.

Attended Veterans Day events at the museum for Heroes Homecoming this year. Wonderful time and great for our community

Awesome displays and great volunteer staff, this is a must see for military, prior military and civilians.
The individual units accomplishments added to my overall knowledge of 20th and 21st century warfare.

You have to go here.
People in the community have supported this museum and it shows.
Friendly staff

We came here with our grandkids. It was worth it. It is a great educational experience. We would definitely make another trip. The staff was very helpful.

A really cool visit with tons of information. Loved that there were many items actually used and not just extras. Definitely need several visits to soak everything in. Glad we came here and I would go back!

The movies and displays are informative and valuable. We have an ever growing appreciations for our service men and women. The ingenuity of the equipments are respectable.

This museum is loaded with history in various formats -- written, visual and tangible. This could easily be a half day or more depending if you want to read the historical narratives of specific campaigns. I have taken our family to see it many times.
No picture taking is allowed inside. Wish we could because it is memorable. However, outside you can take as many as you like. The museum is free. There is a gift shop. The simulator is briefly exciting, but too costly. Excellent for groups even in the summertime with the nice AC.

This is a great museum regardless of age. There are several other areas on the same grounds that are worth visiting. This museum gives you a deep appreciation for our military. I live here and in May for Memorial Day a flag can be purchased in memory or in honor of someone who served and all of the flags are flown for a couple of weeks on the grounds in the back which run alongside of Bragg Blvd. it is a beautiful sight and always brings a lump in my throat. A beautiful and informative museum.

a lot of good history here!!! honors our veterans... kept clean and well maintained... pretty nice employees... an interesting place to take company... good historical site

Went to this museum as part of our Thanksgiving vacation. We didn't know what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised at the abundance of information and displays inside.

What a great museum. Showing the courageous men and what they have done and still do for our country. Well worth a visit.

A must-see when in the Fayetteville area!!! Go during Veteran's Day for a special display of flags. Very humbling! Be sure to check out all of the outside displays as well.

My husband and I visited Fayetteville in early 2017. With a son in the service, the Airborne and Special Operations Museum was a must. Our tour began outdoors, viewing the many monuments leading up to the doors of the museum and once inside, we were greeted warmly by one of the volunteers who not only offered information about the museum, but also gave us recommendations of other things to do in Fayetteville. The galleries in the museum cover WWII to the conflict with Afghanistan. Very well done and definitely worth a visit. I would recommend a minimum of one hour for the museum. We did do the simulator but could have skipped that. I wanted to do the theater as well but we didn't have time on this visit.

Amazing historical museum! My hubby is a paratrooper during the 80’s so it brings back memories for him. Thank you to all who served!!

After having read reviews, we decided to take the one hour ride to the museum. While interesting, this left me wanting more information than was available. I would have liked, for example, to have seen more about the d-day activities. There are a fair number of planes, helicopters and artillery behind
the museum. These were interesting because we happened upon a Vietnam vet who gave us some insights. Made me think that a docent would have been an excellent addition.

This museum highlights the dedication of our country's soldiers and reminds us of what they did to insure our freedom. There are excellent displays which we and our 12 year old grandson thoroughly enjoyed. It was well worth the special trip to visit the museum.

Each time we go, we are reminded of sacrifice. And,as a veteran who lost friends in the 82nd, it is always enjoyable to spend time with good memories.

This is THE history of Airborne and Special Operations professional soldiers. Learn the history of those who have protected our country and given their lives for the cause to keep this GREAT COUNTRY free!!

If you visit Fayetteville, this is a must on the list. There's not much to do here in general, but this museum is well done.

The building is very impressive and the story of special forces is told in a clear and engaging manner. It makes you appreciate all that these young men and women go through

Excellent museum. I can't believe it was free to visit! I did not have time to try the simulator which does have a fee, but I have been told it's well worth the price.

This museum gives a great history of the airborne and special operations units. We liked the displays and how they depicted where the event really occurred.
The museum is free and well worth the time spent learning more about this history of these military units.

Terrific museum that takes you through the special forces timeline from WWII to the present. The life size dioramas that you literally walk through are outstanding. I spent 3 hours there and wished I had allotted more time

A little more informed on the conditions and lifestyle of the different divisions.Would like to see other branches with their own museums.

It was a great place to visited with the family. My family was so happy to visited the area and to come to the Special Operations Museum. I also got my father in law from Congo to visited......Thank you!!! HOOAH!!

My husband has been wanting to see this museum but we seem to always be in town on a Monday. The museum was free and well done. Displays were extremely well done. My husband really enjoyed it.

We loved our visit to this museum. It was so informative but also nicely laid out. Such a tribute to the ones who served.
We took a 6 and 3 year old and it kept their attention while still educating us adults.

The children were bored, it is not recommended for children. Those in the Military will appreciate it more than young children. It was a bust.

Learned a lot from this museum. It is free but you are encouraged to make a donation. Everyone we spoke to was very friendly and eager to tell their stories. Seemed very comprehensive and provided lots of information and displays about the role of special ops. Right downtown and worth a visit.

Got to visit this beautiful place in late May 2019 with our daughter and son-in-law who is stationed at Fort Bragg with the 82 Airborne! So much to see here and everything is curated beautifully! Highly recommend as a must-see in the area, but especially for WWII buffs.

We have visited multiple times, and each time we discover something new. Great place for a family learning experience!

I was in Fayetteville on business. This Musuem had Free Admission. It was such a humbling experience to witness artifacts from different wars. 5 Stars. a must see Museum!!

My spoke at an event there, Korean War. Their exhibits are fantastic. This a is must see, make the time and bask in our County's airborne history.

Stopped to see the museum because my husband was 82nd Airborne Special Operations out of Ft. Bragg. It is a small museum but has alot of history. It is free to go in. It also has a simulator yp u can go in. We also went to Ft.Bragg after this visit.

I had my retirement ceremony held at this location and I do not regret it. The staff was totally on point and provided me all the support to ensure a successful event. There is obviously more to offer here than a venue for an event. I do highly recommend viewing the historical exhibits that shed light into the rigors of Fort Bragg's famous 82nd Airborne Division along with Special Operations exploits over the years.

The museum dives into the rich history of the special forces and airborne. Inside you will find artifacts from the beginning of the special forces to the present. The museum contains aircraft, vehicles, and a wide variety of military equipment. The exhibits are well done and you will always see something different as you walk through each section. A must see for anyone and everyone.

This is a great museum covering the history of the US airborne and special operations forces. it is very interesting and thorough. it has many items, displays of scenes, maps, and more.

What an impressive facility. The information on your self-guided tour is abundant and well explained...at your own pace. Upon arrival, the greeters explained that they would honor VietNam Veterans and to please assemble inside for a ceremony. We all did and were touched by the professional, touching event---long overdue to honor our heroes. Highly recommend.

If you are ever in the Fayetteville area, this is a great place to visit, great military history....

On our way to Durham and decided to check out this museum since my husband is a history buff! What a great find! Lots of information, set up so well. This is definitely a must see!!

You can easily spend a couple of hours in this free museum near Fort Bragg. Excellent dioramas explain the history and development of the 82nd airborne and paratroopers in the US. Very clear curation and easy to understand the military history.

If you come here to see someone or you live here this is a place to go. They have a box for Donations, I say do not put anything in it until you went through it. And Then if you had a good time put something in the box. I been there a few time and Love it when someone come to see me so I can take them there. Go and take a look and if you don't like it, then move out side of the U.S.

This free (donation boxes suggest $5) museum show the history of airborne and special ops. Very interesting and learned a lot.
Would not recommend to pay extra for the simulator, it was a disappointment. The image was very blurry.

Detailed history of the role that Airborne and Special Operations have played in USA's wars and armed conflicts.

This was an awesome learning experience. There was so much information and the coolest displays of equipment.

Great history of the airborne from earliest days in WWII to it morphing into Special Forces currently. I was in XVIII Airborne Corps in the 60s and this brought back special memories. All the artifacts are real -- no fake stuff. I learned lots I never knew when I was in the Army.

Well worth the time spent here. Great history of Airborne and Special Ops. Can spend 2 hours easy. Free admission, self guided tour, plenty to read, plenty of artifacts to see. Gift shop has several cool items. K9 Memorial is very touching outside in front. You'll be glad you stopped by.
A Couple of years ago I visited the 82nd museum inside Ft Bragg. That was very cool and worth the time. This Airborne/Sp Ops museum was very well done and equally worth the time.

There is an emptiness amid the artifacts and souvenirs amid the nostalgic memorabilia and then there is a strength of an elder Serviceman we had privilege to meet seated between a military aircraft and an old tour Jeep. The design in Architecture Aeronautic, definitively avionic . The cheiseled forged metal sculptures in likeness, worthy of reflection ....Thank You, If Only In Memory They Are Not Forgotten

The displays were incredibly lifelike and interesting. I can’t wait to bring my son with me the next time we’re in town. The museum is free (donation suggested) and totally worth your time! Kids will love seeing the helicopters, planes & even a tank inside!

For anyone that has served or is related to someone that has served it's an excellent display of the history of war and sacrifices made in the defense of freedom from WWII up to present day. Great experience to share so that everyone knows the true sacrifice for the cost of freedom.

Was in Fayetteville to go zip lining and had some time to kill. Literally, saw the museum while at the stop light. Noticed the traveling Korean War exhibit and decided to stop. Glad we did. I am a History teacher and was fascinated with the entire museum. Always enjoy reading about the experiences the great men and women of the armed forces go through during war. It gives me more appreciation and gratitude for their service and sacrifice. Enjoyed reading about history of the Airborne units and field of engagement. I could have done without the simulator.

We all had decided to do something different for a change and there was an ad in the local newspaper about this "Airborne and Special Operations Museum" and we all decided to go and it was a excellent experience and visit as well. The place is awesome and really decorated nice and made you feel welcome and at home. While going through the tour of the place the amount of education and history a person will obtain is excellent for sure.
We all had a very enjoyable experience at this "Airborne and Special Operations Museum" and we highly recommend this to everyone especially if they have young children. It is free to go on the tour of this place however donations are accepted and we left one for them to help them out.
Thank you again "Airborne and Special Operations Museum" for a excellent and wonderful visit that we all had for sure...!

Whether you are a military history buff or just love America, you can't miss this stop when you come to Fayetteville. In fact, if you are driving up I-95, considering taking a short detour (less than 10 minutes off the exit) to stop in to the ASOM. The displays are amazing, the stories of our nation's heroes are emotional, and the gift shop has some incredibly unique finds that you will not be able to get anywhere else. The museum operates on donations, so consider giving at the box when you come into the main door.

If you are in or near Fayetteville, please plan on visiting this museum. It's very well done with lots of easy to understand information - even for those that have never served.

The museum does an excellent job of telling the story of airborne operations. I especially enjoyed the displays on General "Wild Bill" Donovan and his OSS. The C-47 hanging from the ceiling is a nice touch -- but it ought to be made airworthy and out at the airfield for some flying history. The museum is a good reminder of the sacrifices made by many fine young people in the service of our country.

So much history and you can spend an entire day in there. Knowledgeable staff that you don’t have to second guess and a great gift shop.

I have 3 daughters under the age of 9 and they love visiting the Airborne Musuem. It's very well put together and most importantly FREE!!!! However they do accept donations. We usually spend about 1 hour and 30 minutes there. They have real sound effects that make you feel as if you are really there. My girls love to go to the veterans park outside the museum and walk around the area downtown. It's a nice family day trip if you're not looking to do something BIG and tiring.

Had a blast! I love military history and this museum didn't disappoint. I highly recommend if you are in the area and have a hour or two to kill.

We have not been to this museum in awhile and came here with a military reunion with most guys from the 1983 Grenada invasion. They had a film going as you walk in on the history of the 82nd airborne and it was fascinating. I learned so much I didn’t know about the 82nd and how it came into existence, was deactivated and then reactivated. It’s amazing to see all the changes and new developments over the many years and where they are headed as a division for the future. Do not pass up a chance to go here. The volunteer staff is awesome. Chad gave a good tour around the museum.

While traveling home from Washington, DC to Georgia we found this museum online. My husband, former military jumped at the chance to stop in for a visit. Amazing displays. Great history. Loved the giftshop and the walkway leading into the museum. I'd love more information on how to purchase a brick/stone, but didn't see anywhere to get that information. If I'm every in the area again I'd love the explore this area of town more.

This is a wonderful look at our U.S. Army Airborne & Special Operations forces. There are memorial bricks along the walk of our fallen heroes and amazing exhibits that give you a look into some of our prestigious warfighter and what they did for this great country.

This was a lot of work by some special people to bring this museum to Ft. Bragg and Fayetteville. Short stop off of Interstate 95 for those of you who enjoy a great museum. Lot of exhibits and memorabilia. If you love the military or if you are patriotic, its a must stop.

The building entrance an lobby are spectacular. It is not something you can forget. The museum is organized by decade from the very beginning starting with WWI to the inception of Special Ops during WWII. It is easy to follow and very informative. Plenty of video and lots of life size dioramas. We did not spend enough time there so we are planning to go again on our next trip.

Went while visiting my son who is at Fort Bragg. So meaningful and beautifully done. And we all learned a lot!

First, I am a U.S. Army Paratrooper and you might think I am a little biased. However, I absolutely love this museum. It has been hard to explain my experiences as a paratrooper without this museum. The museum has free entry to visitors and is supported by local, national and international contributions. This is a World Class Museum filled with military history dedicated to the Airborne Special Forces Soldier.

I wanna first say Thank you to all our soldiers and veterans ! Enjoyed our visit! Alot of interesting things to see!

We stopped here since our driving took less long than we had planned - very glad we did!
A great tribute to all those who have been involved in these "branches" of the military -Very moving, and especially we appreciated that the Vietnam era was handled intelligently and factually, without all the bashing that went on at the time against the military.
Wonderful displays and lots of information.
We spent about 2 1/2 hours, but it could be done n less or more, depending on how much detail you are interested in.
Would not think that children under about 15 would be interested, unless that is their particular bent.

This museum in downtown Fayetteville is free and chronicles the 20th-century history of the Airborne and Special Operations branches of the US Army. It is a must-see for military history students and buffs. The exhibits are varied and excellent. You are greeted by a volunteer retired army veteran at the door.

This is must see for those like myself that were stationed at FT. Bragg or just those that enjoy freedom, history, or where tax dollars go. Wonderful for all ages.

Great museum and a walk down memory lane. One of the best put together museums that I have been to. A great place to donate money to retain this American treasure. Both of my teenage boys enjoyed the museum.

We stopped into the museum on our way through town. It is a very nice single subject (Airborne Operations) museum. It was larger than I thought it would be, we spent about an hour and 1/2 in the museum. It was around lunch time and the museum does not have any food service so we walked about a block and 1/2 to a restaurant down the street. All the volunteers were very nice and made you feel welcomed. Entry to the museum is free.

Visited many of times for all kids of events, learn a lot of special operations and the brave Hero's that protect us

If you are in the area, this is a great place to visit. The displays include life size characters with the displays made to look like geography of area the wars were in. Little children may not understand, but may be entertained by images while the adults read. There are videos and other attractions within this museum.

What an excellent museum and tribute to all the branches of the services. Also an excellent tribute to the woman and men of North Carolina who have served in the military.
What was disappointing was the video ride, which only lasted a couple minutes and not worth the price of admission.
Again, the museum was awesome!

This is a FREE museum with some options to pay to view special displays or videos. Come see the multifaceted displays of recent and past warfare articles both donated and purchased. Displays are always rotating so each time you visit you will see something new to you. There are special cases dedicated to "on-loan" items making the collection very rich and yet unique.

As a former paratrooper, this was an excellent place to take my kids. They learned alot and also plenty of great places for pics.

Every time we have company this is the first place we go. Fayetteville is a military town & what better place to share history than here. First off you see a huge statue of Iron Mike. Then you walk inside and see a paratrooper hanging from his shute! You can go on two different simulator rides feeling like you are part of the soldiers experience. Walklng down memorie lane as you go through each part of the soldiers journey of World War II, Korea,Vietnam, Afghanistan,Iraq etc with lifesize soldiers is incredible. Climb aboard a plane or watch a movie. Don’t forget the gift shop. You will never want to leave.

Our school takes a group to this museum every year and they are so very good to our kids! The guides are kind and patient with our kids, but set a standard for behavior appropriate for children. I love our yearly visits and so do the kids. I also used to being my children to this museum (they are grown now). I highly recommend this museum for families with children of any age. It's clean, well-constructed and well-cared for. It's an affordable and fun way to spend an afternoon. Bring lunch, there is a nice place to picnic. It's a beautiful tribute to our men and women in uniform. It's eye-opening and very interesting. Don't miss it!!

The facility is beautiful... Great eye candy. They need more action movies. While watching a film and fell asleep.

I am impressed that this museum has all artifacts and uniforms to be displayed, including photos and maps. Really enjoyed visiting it. Spend at least two hours!

So glad we had the chance to visit this museum. So much history and so beautifully done! Give yourself a few hours. It does require a lot of reading if you really want to be educated but there’s plenty of visual history too.

Breath taking facts and information found here! Our family had a wonderful time and the museum has wonderful staff. Keep up the knowledge !

The exhibits are excellent. Special exhibits are up for a limited time and then a new one goes up so there is always something new to see. Special events occur throughout the year such as authors of military books, Easter egg hunts, etc.

lot of interesting places to visit here and the people are very nice. Traffic is heavy at times. Visit Ft. Bragg if you can. lot's of history there.

For anybody with a scant interest in history, much less Airborne and Special Operations history, a visit to the museum is a MUST visit. As you drive into the parking lot, you will see two statues, one of GEN Hugh Shelton and Iron Mike, both legendary figures in the community. As you walk into the building, you see an open canopy with an Airborne Soldier gliding…HOOOAH! AIRBORNE!
Enter the museum and the displays, exhibits, and history of the Airborne, Ranger, Special Forces, and Special Operators are depicted. From the origins and battles in both theater of World War II operations, Korea, Vietnam, to Grenada, Panama, and the modern conflict. The museum does an outstanding job in reflecting the history and experiences.
Based on reviews, I did not go to the theater, but did purchase a few items at the gift shop. Admission is free, but donations are accepted.
Allocate at least an hour or two for this great museum, both the inside and outside. Airborne!

It was a wonderful day and experience for the whole family. The teens learned so much and took lots of pictures to share with their history teachers. Overall great place to go with the family. You learn so much about the airborne and special forces of our country.

I took an exchange student from Germany because he was interested in the USA Army's history. It was exciting to see how the weapons progress and how the PJs got started. ( parachute jumpers) Germany started this tactic by jumping out of hot air balloons. So you see a lot of war tactics change over the years and weapon technology too.
It is a free event to attend to. It is great to go if you want to learn about history of the USA army and how parachute jumpers got started. :D

This was very interesting museum and it was free. They had real vehicles used, statues dressed in uniforms of the special opps, and the different guns used, planes hanging from the ceiling and different scenes depicting situations during war.

This is a great museum that is full of interesting signage, artifacts and dioramas featuring mannequins dressed in uniform, utilizing military equipment. It covers military history from World War II through today. Spent a couple of hours here. Could have probably spent an entire day if I read all of the signage. Very well organized with lifelike depictions of actual events.

I was happily amazed and all this Museum offered. A good place too go and appreciate what the military does for our freedom.

New to Fayetteville? You MUST visit ASOM. Great displays, friendly staff and volunteers, beautiful facility in the heart of the city.

It is a good place to visit I would say if you aren't in to seeing some really sad things I wouldn't recommend it I am not in to it but I had to go but I could tell that if you were really in to this it would be amazing. I think you can bring young children but you will probably not want to go in to detail on what is going on in each since. Now if you have mabe 6-8ish they will ask questions that might be really sad to answer

great free museum plenty to see here nice facility free parking go here and see it youwont be sorry bye

Amazingly well put together. A must for military. Great place to reflect and learn. Staff is super friendly and helpful

All I can say is this place is beautiful, it's relaxful it is a place where you will learn a lot about the wars. If you haven't been go ahead and go.

Free with a recommended $5 donation. This museum is in downtown Fayetteville and NOT on Fort Bragg (I believe others are confusing it with the much smaller 82nd Airborne Division Museum on Ft Bragg).
Very well done museum, with realistic displays and presentations. In the lobby are two paratroopers, the first being in a static line parachute and the second in a HALO or freefall parachute. Also the rotor hub from Super 61 that was shot down in Mogadishu Somalia in 1993.
The first room to the right before you enter the main part of the museum currently holds a WWI, or the Great War, display as well as North Carolina display. Very well done that shows how Fort Bragg and Fayetteville as well as the State of North Carolina contributed to WWI.
To the left of the main part is the gift shop that has tons of things to purchase.
The main museum begins with the first formation of Airborne forces in the 1930s, and delves into the beginnings of WWII with propaganda posters and their importance, some of the early battles. Display from North Africa with Darby's Rangers and the Airborne forces that flew from England to jump into Algeria in Americas first combat parachute operation.
You proceed into Sicily, Italy and Southern Europe. Then OPN Overlord and D-Day/Normandy, Market Garden and the Battle of the Bulge. Then into the forces that fought in the Pacific, and the 555 that fought forest fires started by Japanese firebombs in the Pacific Northwest.
There is a great glider display, and sounds of battle played to put one in the action.
Korea and Vietnam are well represented, as are other operation such as the 82nd going into the Dominican Republic and deployed within the US for desegregation and riot control.
Grenada has a small presentation, then Panama with OPN Just Cause. The Rangers in Desert Storm are completely overlooked, but otherwise a good presentation. Then a display of a Mogadishu arms market, PSYOP and Civil Affairs efforts. Tactical Air Controllers and other SOF elements.
The final displays capture modern efforts in Iraq, Afghanistan and other missions.

I learned a lot by walking through this museum, which was bigger than expected. Very interesting information about special forces and the local history.

This museum traces the history of the American Paratrooper from concept to the modern day and includes all facets of "Special Operations" from WWII and the OSS up to the latest Delta Force and Army Rangers. The exhibits are comprehensive, well done and documented. A new addition is the rotorhead from the UH-60 Blackhawk "Super 61" from Somalia of "Blackhawk Down" fame. The docents are knowledgeable and friendly and very helpful. There is a nice gift shop as well Adjacent to the Museum is the Fayetteville Veterans Park which is also very nice. You will not be disappointed.

Our airborne son recommended we visit, and I'm glad we did. We spent a couple hours going through, reading, and seeing most everything in the museum. If you enjoy military history, this place is a must visit.

This museum is not to large but has a lot of information in it. Always clean and always friendly. It has interactive features and just right for people with disabilities. I love the additional upgrades since my last visit. Please put a donation in the box. It is well worth it.

I really enjoyed the outside sculptures and information before even getting into the building. This was an amazing exhibit full of great artifacts and areas set up with visual scenes from each campaign and war. I spent an hour there and could have slowed down to see more. A must see in the area.

This museum similar to visiting the Smithsonian in DC. Full scale dioramas with actual planes helicopters and other real war weapons trace the history of the 82nd Airborne and Special Operations units and their battles. It’s free with donations welcome. Various films are featured and a simulator make this an excellent choice for history buffs and everyone else who visits historic downtown Fayetteville NC

Awesome museum with lots of displays including planes, armored vehicles, and a helicopter. Great place to take the younger generation to really learn and see all that taken place during America's wars and conflicts. Highly recommend this as a stop and plan on spending a few hours roaming and learning. This was one of the best military museums in the country. And you can't beat the price...all donations, so it's whatever you feel this experience is worth.

Great place! Respect to all our Veterans and fallen Brothers. So much history, state of the art facilities. Parachutes inside, shop, small theater, must visit place in Fayetteville for sure

My son-in-law, who is currently serving in the 82nd Airborne, brought me her on my recent visit to Fayetteville. I am a history major, an art teacher, and currently working on my M.A. in history. I loved how the museum was more than just artifacts. The setting really brought things to life! I watched how the younger people were really enjoying taking their pictures in front of exhibits. Let's fact it, if you can hook teenagers on history and museums, you are doing something right! I also enjoyed the gift store, and made several purchases. I will be going back my next trip to Fayetteville!

This place was amazing. So much information. And the displays were so informative. They were friendly at the door and you could go at your own pace

Donations are requested, but there is no set fee to enjoy this museum. We spent a good 2 hours here and still left without viewing all the displays. There are two films - one about the history of airborne and special forces; and one about the Mogadishu, Somalia incident (Black Hawk Down). The displays covered the history of airborne and special forces from inception through current day operations. Was extremely interesting and well thought-out. A must see if you are in the area.

When you visit Fayetteville, you must set aside time to visit the Airborne and Special Operations Museum (ASOM) Visiting the ASOM will help you understand the history of Fayetteville and Fort Bragg, NC and more importantly the men and women who have accepted the challenge to "Stand up and Hook up" serving in our Airborne and Special Operations forces from WWII to the Present. The museum is FREE, interactive and filled with artifacts highlighting the history of the Airborne and Special Operation Forces. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. Ask questions. If you see an individual standing looking at a particular display for a very long time - it is likely they served in that action; are remembering the best of times and maybe worst of times. Fayetteville is filled with American heroes.

We enjoyed learning about the Special Ops from its inception up to present time. The displays and information was presented chronologically and was very interesting. Proud to be an American.

Great presentation with lots of information about Airborne Paratroopers within the US Army from WWII to present. They have exhibits from numerous operations, including Grenada & Operation Desert Storm. Excellent place to go for historical accounts of the US Army paratroopers.

I love that this was free and the volunteer staff were friendly and very explanatory about the museum layout. I learned alot and was glad to spend the hour or so checking this out while on vacation.

WOW! What an awesome museum to visit! The displays, photos and all the information is phenomenal! Full size planes and helicopters right inside! Truly inspirational and a definite MUST SEE!!

The airborne and special ops museum is a must for anyone traveling through eastern North Carolina. It is completely free, has a multitude of exhibits that are rich with history. If you’re a history buff or military minded, It’s a must see!

The legends of the 101st, 82nd and other Airborne and Special Forces on display. Extremely well presented. Nearby is Fort Bragg the home of the Airborne and Special forces.

Covers every aspect of airborne operations. Fascinating displays and a very helpful staff. Well worth a visit. You'll want to spend at least an hour.

The entire staff was welcoming. Good history and nice memory even though we spent short time over there.. nice place to visit.

The Airborne and Special Operations Museum is a beautiful place to visit for all ages. Free admission and parking.

Just beautiful, clean well designed. I intend to bring all my children and grandchildren when they are of age.
OUTSTANDING!!!
I was assigned to Fort Bragg when they were building this place. When they finished it I was on my last tour of Iraq and retired as soon as I got back. Sadly, I never took the time to visit. Now that I am home, i made the time to visit and I have to admit, this place is OUTSTANDING!
