Great visit to do with children, the stagings in each room is rather nice.it takes a small half day, or make selections. Entry is free contribution

Large and well-structured museum, there are many things to see, and 'a fun museum for young and old. It is worth a visit.

It had been about 30 years since I last visited and before that was grade school, having grown up in Da Bronx. We went with our nieces that live in Yonkers. Since NYS resident pay only a donation, the 4 of us got in for $10. Cha-Ching. If not it was $30 per out of state visitor (ouchie).
There are many gift shops scattered throughout the museum, at the end of various exhibits of course. Get your card ready because the souvenirs our over priced trinkets you would not pay as much for outside the museum.
There are many food trucks outside the museum, so grab a bite to eat before you go in. The museum has restaurants with long lines and slim pickings for too much money.
We spent a few hours here. The exhibits were better than I remembered. My favorite exhibit is the one of the true scale blue whale. That thing takes up 2 floors. TV does not show you the true scale, whether underwater or on the surface. You really get a sense of how enormous it is. It always amazes me as a kid and did not disappoint in my 50s.
Anyone who visits NYC should put this on their must do list. This is a classic NYC attraction. When visiting my brother in Puerto Rico, I highly recommended it for his NYC trip. His family was not disappointed. They loved it.

It's very famous, children probably really like it, I found it boring, especially the part of the animals that you can't tell if they're stuffed or not.
The dinosaur and the stones part are the best parts. Would not stay there again.

We bought our tickets online, which enabled us to skip the lines at the museum. There was a line for a security check, but only a few people were ahead of us and the line moved quickly. There is a lot to see and we only saw a portion of the museum. What we did see was very well presented and interesting. We also bought extra tickets for ‘Invisible Worlds’ and ‘Davis Family Butterfly Vivarium’. Invisible Worlds was very nice with the lights/sound all around – walls, floor, etc. The only negative was that when we were there, so were about 20 kids under the age of 5. Those kids were running around playing/screaming through the entire “show”. I can understand how it would be fun to jump on and around the moving lights – and in general – I love the sound of kids having fun - but at the same time – it was very distracting. It seems there should either be some “no kids” times or perhaps kids should be required to sit and watch. The show plays on a constant loop. The butterfly exhibit was interesting. There are hundreds of butterflies in the exhibit and some will land on you. They only allow a group in at a time to control the number of people in the exhibit at a time, but I still felt it was overly crowded and difficult to move. But still worth seeing. Overall, the museum is well worth visiting.

My class went here in February and we didn't get to go see the exhibits but we did see some other things. We went to go see the space show about the different planets and their moons in our Solar System and it was very educational and most of my classmates enjoyed it. We also got to see the cafeteria for schools which was not much but satisfactory to the teachers and parent chaperones on the trip.

Visiting the American Museum of Natural History was one of the highlights of my time in New York City. From the moment I stepped inside, I felt like I was travelling through time and across the world. The dinosaur exhibits are absolutely spectacular – seeing the towering T-Rex and the enormous Titanosaur was an unforgettable experience.
I also loved the biodiversity and ocean life halls; the giant blue whale model is breathtaking. The layout of the museum is intuitive, and each hall immerses you in a different environment, whether it's the depths of the ocean, the African savannah, or ancient civilizations.
The Hayden Planetarium show was another standout – beautifully narrated and visually stunning, it reminded me how small we are in the vast universe.
I recommend arriving early to avoid crowds, wearing comfortable shoes, and allocating at least 3-4 hours to explore without rushing. This museum is perfect for visitors of all ages, whether you’re travelling solo, as a couple, or with children. It’s an inspiring place that fuels curiosity and wonder about our world and beyond.

Spectacular museum. Unperishable. I suggest arriving right at the opening (10 hours), as it is difficult to travel it in 1 day only. Unfortunately the ticket purchased by TripAdvisor has caused some problem, as it does not make it clear that the exchange for the ticket is inside the museum and leaves the customer to make a visit schedule on the museum website (which I did not figure out how to do). We entered thanks to the goodwill of the staff of the museum.

We loved the museum. Very accessible. We deeply appreciated the fact that we could enter downstairs with the ramp. Even though the sign on the door said “members only” my mom has accessibility issues and could not climb the stairs to the main entrance. We were also two hours late. They exchange our tickets and happily helped us get in. My mom really wanted to see the Ocean Life exhibit and I was SO grateful for the elevator there. We also enjoyed our lunch at the restaurant by the vivarium. It was so yummy I only wish there were more menu options.

This was my second time to visit the AMNH. I loved it. I was a little rushed so I recommend planning to go slow and try to read as much as you can to really get the history and stories behind the exhibitions. But even a run-through is helpful. You get to see such diversity in our created world. We did the Invisible Worlds experience. I was ok. I didn't love it. Extremely stimulating. I wouldn't say I learned much through it. It's fun for kids to run around chasing the moving lights. I also did the Worlds Beyond Earth Planetarium experience. I liked it very much but still was a bit underwhelmed. Would I do it again? Maybe, if I just wanted a broad view of our solar system. If time is of the essence I think I'd skip the exhibitions and focus on the main parts of the museum.

Beautiful museum with a very nice collection of dinosaur fossils. For that alone, you should travel to the American Museum of Natural History. We also found the ant colony fascinating to visit. Without a doubt one of the best museums of its kind.

It is a very large museum with a strange distribution, however you can access a map, through your cell phone, that can guide you easily and quickly.
The pieces on display are varied and interesting, you can go from the moai, dinosaurs, or the famous whale.
It is advisable to take the time to watch one of your films.
The staff was excellent.

Probably one of the most beautiful natural history museums in the world!
Everything is beautiful, well thought out, beautiful, documented. However, watch out for travelling exhibitions because they are paid for. However, even for the basic price, it is possible to see lots of wonderful things: dinosaurs, animals from Africa, birds from all over the world... Count a good half day to see only a quarter of it.
Not to be missed, especially with children!

There is so much to see. Just wish we planned better on how to navigate the museum. Our daughter enjoyed it and it was the main place she wanted to go.

Very educational though it gets rather crowded in certain seasons so best to purchase tickets ahead of time. This museum have a wide range of areas to explore that you couldn't possibly finish in just a day so would be good to prioritize the areas that you'd like to see first.

The Museum of Natural History is is an excellent museum to visit. Enjoyed my time there very much. You could easily spend the whole day there and not be bored! Highly recommend visiting the museum if you are in New York City. It’s easy to get to and is on Central Park West.

We only stayed 2 hours in this museum but it deserves much more time because there are so many things to see! If you are pressed for time, do not hesitate to plan your visit on their website, there is a map in PDF downloadable. The museum's app is also very convenient to navigate and reach the desired room.

Not to MISS! Fun for all ages and interests. From FOSSILS to OUTER SPACE .Interactive science and exciting architecture.

The museum brought history to life. Me and my family loved looking through the different animals and dinosaur exhibits. It is great for kids and adults for a great historical and magical experience. The exhibits were super interactive whether it was listening to the different music from different cultures playing in the background, or looking at the size of dinosaur feet props and comparing it to people. The gift shop also had a huge assortment of gifts for everyone.

Absolutely incredible place could spend hours in there so much to see and all so interesting would highly recommend if you’re in New York will 100% be going back when I’m next in New York ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Explore the natural history around many part of the world here. Plan your visit in advance by purchasing ticket on-line and keep QR code to scan in the front of entrance. Highlights are African animals & nature, Underwater creatures especially Blue Whale, Planets & Earth and dinosaurs.

This charming museum captures the magical vibe of *Night at the Museum*. The dinosaur exhibit is truly spectacular, and our entire family loved the experience. Conveniently, it’s included in the New York City Pass, so there’s no need to reserve ahead of time.

Great Displays and very informative.
Lay out is a bit confusing.
Even tough we had digital Tickets, we had to line up again and exchange them for Paper tickets that then got scanned, total waste of time, paper and resources.

Dreadful. Long lines & uninteresting exhibits.
We visited as it was included in our Go City Pass. Otherwise unless you’re a massive natural history nut, I wouldn’t bother.

Excellent! If you don’t have time at NYK you have to choose which museum to go to, prefer it. In addition to the dinosaurs that seemed indifferent to us (because we had seen in another museum before), it presents animals from different continents in their natural environment and are so "real". It also exhibits artifacts from the people of Africa and Asia of previous centuries. In the basement is a tribute to the space and the rocks. It really is worth seeing. You will definitely need a three-hour for a quick passage.

Great museum with wonderful staff. Lots of exhibits and interesting info. We also spent time in the cafe; and enjoyed the gift shop.

Thought about going back but now the devil's in charge I'll go to Mexico.I really want to make sure I wasn't cursed when I went there so I've been down the couch everyday.

Awesome experience, try to arrive as early as otherwise will be very bsy during the holidays, sad to see how we are all contributing to global warming

TERRIBLE TICKETING AND CHECK IN SERVICE. Youbuy tickets online, select your experience, and then have to stand in line again for another 20 minutes to a half hour to get a paper ticket . It’s an absolute disaster of the system and impacts your entire experience when you walk in to start up with the negative.

If you have more than three days in town, having young children is a good walk.
If you love animals too, a good walk.

They had spoken to us very well and some of us were disappointed. The content itself is fine, but you don't know what's real and what's plastic. Many dinosaurs... but you're left in doubt if they're remnants of prehistory or if they've been 3D printed. In all the museums and monuments I have visited, they always tell you so. Not here. I felt cheated. Almost everything is phase.

Everything was great except the gift shop. At the gift shop it was a ripoff. 1 sticker was $5, the necklaces were $15 and the rest was 10 to 20 dollars. If you had only $5 like me then you couldn't buy anything except a sticker, nothing else.

Visiting the American Museum of Natural History was an unforgettable experience. I was blown away by the sheer size and detail of the exhibits, especially the dinosaur fossils—they were absolutely awe-inspiring. The Hall of Ocean Life, with its life-sized blue whale model, was another highlight that left me speechless. I appreciated how the museum balanced education with entertainment, making it engaging for both adults and kids. Overall, it was a day well spent, and I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in the wonders of our natural world.

I couldn't really enjoy it was too hot in there. Felt like the heating was on full blast when there should be air con. Also no clear directions to toilets. Other than that great place to visit.

Spectacular as always, the way the museum is developed is very entertaining and didactic, the different rooms with their displays are easy to travel and visually pleasing, the building itself is magnificent. Point apart is the display of butterflies that really is wonderful, to see them flying in their natural state between plants and flowers is shocking.

Museum that needs no presentations or reviews
It’s all wonderful from how the various natural habitats are recreated to the thousands of animal species represented and recreated

Very interesting museum. Many topics are discussed. We personally appreciated the bird in value and aquatic or terrestrial animals.
Kous didn't have time to do everything. 2:30 wasn't enough. Plan 4 hours

The views were amazing we took so many photos! the number one thing I'd recommend is to buy the V.I.P for about $200 it makes the trip very diverse and is much better

My siblings and I had pre-booked our tickets in advance via the official website.
On arrival we didn't have to queue and got straight in once our tickets were checked.
The museum is split over 4 floors and I would highly recommend the official app which tells you exactly where you are at all times and provides a clear map to follow.
We found the exhibits to be very interesting and well laid out. The space items were our favourite and we enjoyed the "Worlds Beyond" show inside the Planetarium (additional cost). We went on a Thursday afternoon when the weather was good and it was not busy at all. We had previously tried to visit on a rainy day during out 2023 visit to NYC and the queues were massive as everyone has the same idea when the weather is bad so plan accordingly.
Overall, this was a great experience and I would highly recommend for anyone visiting NYC.

If you grew up in NY, this was every kid's first museum. I ensured my daughters were here when they were 2 and many times over the last 13 years. The largest collection of fossils I have ever seen. While the other exhibit halls are famous, it is the 4th floor that sets this museum apart. A must-see in a must-see city. And yes, go early; it gets mobbed.

The American Museum of Natural History is one of the premier natural history museums in the world. Highlights include the collection of dinosaur fossils, the mammal halls, the huge blue whale in Ocean life and the gems and minerals collection. You should also try to reserve a show in the Hayden Planetarium if time allows. Adult admission to the museum is $30 and children under 12 are $18. It will cost an extra $6 for adults and $4 for children to include a planetarium show or to see any other ticketed exhibit. It can get extremely crowded inside the museum so try to go as early in the day as possible after opening. Buy tickets in advance online. We arrived at the back entrance on Coumbus Avenue just before 11am and it wasn't too bad getting through security. You can easily spend 3-4 hours inside especially if including a planetarium show. If you are bringing children, make sure to watch the fun 2006 movie A Night at the Museum, which is set here and involves many of the famous exhibits coming to life at night inside the museum.

This has been one of the largest museums I have ever visited, you must take into account that on your visit you spend at least half a day to enjoy all sections of the museum. Take pictures without flash and enjoy this great tour!

Everything is English, no translation possible, do not go on Wednesday because full of children and college students, you have to take the map with you because there are few indications, there is no sense of visit

It is both natural history museum and anthropology
Highlights for my taste dinosaurs and mineral rooms, the redwood trunk

The dinosaur collection is unique and impressive. The collection covers the largest dinosaurs. In addition, the historical museum architecture and the modern annex are very interesting.

Quite a dull boring experience, one hour plenty - shake shack opp back entrance great option for lunch before or after visit

Interesting but completely outdated museum. It's all old. No interactivity. The four floors quickly get boring, it's too big.

Long Wait Times:
We bought tickets through CityPass which was a complete waste. Once you arrive there are two lines for entrance, one line that acted as an “express” which was only for people who bought tickets directly through the museum website and the other line for everyone else including third parties like CityPass and TripAdvisor and also people who have not purchased tickets yet. This was a waste because the line was 30-40 mins for the front desk to scan our QR code and just print a physical ticket. This took up valuable time we could have used inside the museum instead.
We also had timed entry tickets to the Hayden Planetarium which we spent another 30 mins waiting to get in since they were running behind.
Crowding:
I suggest going during off peak hours (maybe early in the day for opening) as when we arrived at 1:30pm it was already extremely packed and barely any space to move and throughout our stay it just kept getting busier and busier. People were agitated being so crowded together, big strollers bumping into people and little kids screaming, crying and running around everywhere. It was a nightmare. We spent a total of 2 hours inside the museum (which mostly was standing in lines) and got out as soon as we could since you could barely walking through any exhibits.
Signage:
This was a HUGE issue. You are given a map upon entrance but apart from that you have no idea where to go and how to access exhibits. It was genuinely like being in a maze trying to find the right stairs (since the elevators had crazy lineups) or escalators were only one way and the other way could not be accessed.
If you are still keen to visit, go early, be prepared to be crowded with a bunch of people and expect to spend the full day there if you want to hit all the exhibits. If you don’t have a full day, you should skip this attraction (which I wish we had).

We came for the dinosaurs but were equally impressed by the earth and space exhibit, An interesting 5 minute film narrated by Liam Nissan about the universe was well done. This is a big place and you can probably only truly appreciate it by living close enough to see it in pieces over the course of months. On a single day we walked past much of the exhibits in order to at least see the highlights.
One thing that struck me was rendition of natives meeting the settlers, something that modern culture may just as well have thrown out entirely. Instead, the display explains the historical inaccuracy and gives a different context to the relationships. See the photos with text. What never makes the cut in these apologies is how America was founded like every other civilization through war and conquering local populations. America didn't do anything unusual in the settling of America. By skipping that part you give the impression that your own country is an evil outlier. Not a great building block for upholding civilization.
Overall the museum is 5 stars for scientific value but 3 stars for the need to inject fashionable politics.

A few weeks before going to visit this museum, we saw the famous film “One Night at the Museum”...!
How much to laugh when we relived it live with my children...!
Very large museum, well organized and very kind staff! Many “fake” things and few real finds but definitely fun for children!
Not very clear the route to take and it was very challenging to find the exit but otherwise ample space and a lot to see.

This place is huge. In addition to the general admission, we purchased tickets for the secret world of elephants (not worth it) and the passport to the universe (worth it). Truly some amazing exhibits throughout.

Too pretty. Simply inevitable. To spend the whole day in there watching. My kids loved it, they're 16 and 14.
One wing more beautiful than the other and the attraction of planetary is unavoidable.

It was a great educational experience. We learnt a lot and the planetarium show was great! A must see is the dinosaur exhibit.

Plan the day to see all the exhibitions plus the extra planetarium or butterfly greenhouse type!
Otherwise it is a fantastic museum!

We decided to explore all the exhibition rooms at the Museum of Natural History in NYC. After about five sections we were completely overwhelmed the museum is enormous. For some exhibits you must arrive at a set time, so planning ahead is helpful.
Despite its size, it’s a wonderful place full of impressive displays. Definitely worth a visit!

Unbelievable. We were not expecting much and we lacked hours to enjoy the Museum. All the rooms are worth it, but the one with the minerals and the Dinosaurs fascinated us.

This place is truly invaluable, time and time again. Regardless of your age, there's something here for everyone. The exhibitions are crafted with meticulous care and are incredibly immersive, transporting you to different worlds, especially the designs featuring African and Asian mammals.
You must not overlook the experience of lying beneath the blue whale; it truly puts into perspective just how small we humans are.
We were fortunate enough to visit during the special elephant exhibit, and that alone was a fantastic experience.

Beautiful museum, children enchanted by African mammals.
The backgrounds of the various display cases make the environment realistic

If this were a review of what we saw and learned, it would be 5 stars. As it is, even though every staff member we encountered was very friendly and helpful, the user experience was poor.
It started when we arrived and parked in the museum lot. We left our coats in the car on a cold January day before we found out that you can not enter the museum from the garage but rather have to go outside.
Once in, ticketing and entry were flawless.
When entering, there were museum maps available in a variety of languages but not in English or Spanish. One of the staff people said that there hadn't been any English ones in a while.
We went upstairs and after an hour or so needed water. The first water fountain we found was inoperational, the second water fountain we found was inoperational, the third water fountain we found was inoperational. We went to the food court to buy water. A can of Dasani water was $7. That's inexcusable. (Later on during the visit we saw someone standing in front of yet another inoperational water fountain.) Given that by now, 4 out of 4 water fountains weren't working we were forced to wonder if it was on purpose. Later in the visit we did encounter a working fountain.
The exhibits we saw were great but navigating the museum was tedious. Signage is poor and the only maps were out by the elevators. If I couldn't keep the directions in my head, I kept ending up somewhere else from where I wanted to be.
When ready to depart we needed to find the 81st street exit as we were coatless. It was way more difficult than it should have been to find.
A great museum day in terms of what we saw but a really substandard museum day in terms of the level of user friendliness. Basic stuff like maps and drinking water is not being addressed in one of the greatest museums in the world.

The views were amazing took loads of photos lovely place to go would highly recommend going to see the lovely things there

I'll explain my note I love this museum this was our third time visiting the museum
The museum is great with many attractions for children and adults with a lot of culture history finally and all good
But this last visit was terrible because of the air conditioning of the museum, people were not able to stay inside it was very cold we couldn't stay even half an hour there we had to go out because of the cold and imagine in full summer and also could see other people complaining about the cold until it seemed that we were at the North Pole rsrs
TirNdo this museum and excellent I recommend xom sure

It was exciting from entry as there were already dinosaurs going at it. I lined up for tickets since I had cash but it would have been faster doing everything online. The atrium was nice to look around though while waiting in line. There are a few items in the museum which are ticketed so require an extra ticket to get into. It was $30 to get in and $41 for all the ticketed exhibits so it wasn't excessively expensive. I went with the normal admission since it was my first time there.
My first step was into the African diorama and that was amazing. Two floors of animals in their natural habitats. It was nice seeing that throughout the museum within the different spaces. Of course, I headed to the top floor to the dinosaurs and worked my way down. there was just so much to see in all the exhibits and they were all very fascinating. Many areas had hands-on displays.
It looks like they combined the old building with a new one. The exploration atrium was something very interesting to see and there were seats to just enjoy the atmosphere. There were a few cafes and shops scattered around the museum. Some of the shops are specialised and specific to their associated area like the gemstone one.
I really enjoyed my time here. I think I managed to see most of the displays within a day but it was quite hectic and a lot of walking. The ticketed displays did also look interesting. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

There's a lot to see here. If you live in NY State you choose the amount you want to pay for entry. They have small lockers for coats and backpacks - $7 for the day. The exhibits are plentiful and arranged well. However, some areas need a makeover to move into the 21st century, i.e. better graphics and more interactive exhibits. Also, many of the exhibits have labels and text graphics that are placed in positions that make them unreadable unless you have near perfect vision. We spent 3 hours here on a rainy day and still didn't see it all. It's a great place for all ages - the educational value if high.

We visited the museum and the planetarium and had a great time. The collection is huge so only a portion can be seen in one visit. With that in mind, it’s best to plan out what you want to see ahead of your visit. We saw minerals, meteorites, insects, and North American mammals plus the planetarium video and displays. All wonderful!

It is not only the skeletons of the dinosaurs, the livestock of the American continent, but there is a special area for insects, you can see minerals and rocks and generally spend a lot of time learning. We found although in the morning a huge queue, which, however, flowed very fast when we were not delayed

Stunning museum with incredible scenes of animals in their natural state
Very spacious very easy to locate
Beautiful discovery in the nycpass

Visited the week before Xmas and was it crowded! We bought our admission tickets online along with the Planetarium show ticket for 10:30 AM. We parked in the parking lot by 10:10 AM which was $33.00 for 2 hours.
There were tickets for other experiences online beforehand also - like the specific elephant exhibit.
Glad we arrived early and saw the planetarium show in the Hayden auditorium: worlds beyond earth which was spectacular and under 30 minutes.
Loved the dinosaur exhibit; the extinct or nearly extinct or in danger insects, etc
BUT we’d like to return when it isn’t so crowded

One could spend an entire day at the Natural History Museum and still not be able to savor all of its treasures! We chose to enjoy the Halls of Gems and Minerals. The exhibits are incredibly well-displayed and offer a wealth of things to see. Inside the halls was the Cosmic Splendor, showcasing Van Cleef & Arpels pieces inspired by space.
It is interesting to note that the museum is open on Mondays!

Great museum and especially back in childhood if you saw the movies.
4 floors of exhibition accessible to any public.
Possibility to stay the day so big the museum.
The parts are very well explained and accessible even to small children.
However a little waiting even if you have booked your tickets so arrive about 20 mins in advance.
Accessible via metro 1 minute walk

The American Museum of Natural History is a fantastic spot, especially for families and children. If you want to explore in detail, plan for more than 3 hours, but you can rush through in 1-2 hours if you're short on time. While it's a great experience, if you're only in New York for a few days, you might want to prioritize other attractions

It's been 15 years since I last visited the museum, and we were thrilled by this visit. The dinosaur exhibits were fantastic, as was the sea life exhibit in the lower floor. The film about the universe in the planetarium was another highlight. All in all, highly recommended!

Visiting the American Museum of Natural History in New York is truly an unforgettable experience. From the moment you step inside, you’re surrounded by incredible exhibits that bring science, history, and nature to life. The dinosaur fossils are breathtaking — especially the massive T-Rex and the towering Titanosaur that seem to guard the halls with prehistoric pride.

I dragged Phoebe to the museum of Natural History this Sunday, while I was home for break. She didn't want to go because she'd already gone with her class earlier that week. She wanted to see some crumby play called I Know My Love, that starred the Lunts. But I'd already seen the depressing play with Sally and I hated Broadway and the whole movie business, so we decided on the museum. Before the museum we got some food at a diner, where I had once had a fantastic conversation with some nuns. These nuns were truly very nice, but I had been a little worried they were gonna ask me if I was Catholic, but they never did. After eating a quick breakfast, we made our way to the museum. The museum is truly great, I'm not kidding. It's one of the only places that makes me feel less depressed and truly marvelous. One of the best parts is the smell. It always smells like it was raining outside, even if it wasn't, and you were in the only nice, dry, cosy place in the world. I loved that damn museum (Salinger 156). My favorite part of the museum, I mean even better than the smell, is the Native American exhibit. There's this large canoe and a squaw weaving whose bosom you could see. The exhibit is very swell, but the best part is that everything stays the same. I mean you could come back a week or year later and the exhibit would still be the exact same. The squaw still weaving and the canoe still as large. I think that's got to mean something in this world filled with phonies. Everyone is just so damn crumby, it kills me. But this museum and the Native Americans show not everything has to change. Certain people like the Native Americans can remain a constant. In such a lousy world, the Native Americans are needed to remain the same, to help deal with the rest of the depressing world.

The American Museum of Natural History is located in the West side of Central Park in the New York City. The museum boosts an excellent collection of exhibits (hosted in 4 floor levels), with educational plaques that is high educational. Some of the highlight exhibits are the Gems and Minerals, the Meteorites, the Planet Earth, the Insectarium (the cutting ants exhibit is super-bool), the dinosaurs exhibit.

A great museum. Loads to see and do in magnificent surroundings. The dinosaur section is incredible and is not to be missed. Some really good and informative displays to read and it’s fair to say there is something for everyone there.
A must see when in New York and it would be wise to look at the New York City pass when looking to purchase.

My third time there! Don’t expect to see what’s in the movie because you’ll be disappointed. Very interesting, large but organized! Worth the experience. Prices are up!!!

Worth a visit if you have time when in New York.
Allocate a good 3-4 hours to get around as there is a lot to see.
Information, fun and educational.

We visited using the City Pass, and entry was smooth and easy. We arrived right at opening time, which helped beat some of the crowds.
What we didn’t realize was just how massive this museum is—you definitely need a full day to explore everything properly. We only made it through about half of the exhibits, but every section was fascinating and well worth seeing.
One of the highlights was the Butterfly Conservatory, which was a really cool experience. The museum is great for all ages, with tons to see and learn.
As someone interested in physics, I was particularly excited for the Big Bang exhibit, but unfortunately, it was a bit disappointing. While the visuals were nice, the presentation felt basic and didn’t go as in-depth as I’d hoped. It’s still a good introduction for those less familiar with the topic, but if you already have a strong interest in physics and cosmology, you might not learn much new.
The only downside is that there’s no clear path to follow, so you might find yourself doubling back or getting turned around. I’d recommend grabbing a map and planning ahead, especially if you don’t want to spend the entire day inside.
One great perk is that you can leave and re-enter on the same day, which we took advantage of to go out for lunch before continuing our visit. Highly recommend this museum, but be prepared for a lot of walking!

Definitely worth the time! The dinosaur area alone was worth the time. Plus, it’s right next to Central Park so afterwards you can grab a drink grab some food and walk over to Central Park..

Visited with the family on a recent trip to NYC. Plenty for the kids to see and keep them entertained for a couple of hours. If anything it is a great way to escape the heat on a summer afternoon. Cafeteria downstairs with a decent selection for a quick bite after walking through the exhibits.

We visited after wanting to for yes and was not disappointed. You can spend the full day here and still not see everything. We went to the Milkyway exhibition, which was fantastic and well worth the extra cost.

Very overrated .. much lower than the British... very fake... plastic .. uninteresting and stimulating even for children... would not stay there again

We weren’t given tickets just vouchers that had to be exchanged at the museum which caused an additional 45 minute wait in line.

I really loved this place , it is a very good museum, interactive and the rooms are very well distributed. The largest are the marine world and archaeology as well as the butterfly.

Terrific museum. Great for a quick visit if you’re interested in anything specific. And great if you’d want to spend hours there. It has something for everyone. Don’t forget to visit the pieces from “Night at the Museum.” Definitely buy the tickets on your phone so you just need to scan them upon entrance and not wait in line to buy the tix. Don’t forget to grab a map. Also, entering through other entrances but the main one will make it easier. The museum has some cafes but be prepared for overpaying for any drinks and food. Go and enjoy!

A large, beautiful and interesting museum, but with many people in tourist season, especially on days of very hot or rainy. Everything is very careful. Nearby there is a Shake Shack to eat at a good price.

Had a nice time. Went with and 8yo. There were other kids there also having a good time. The staff members were friendly. There were lots of dinosaur casts and taxidermy. There are some live reptiles and insects in an area on the top floor. Would go again.

I learned so much during my time here; there was so much information to take in.
I especially appreciated the time and effort that has gone into the dinosaur exhibition - truly incredibly how they have done all of this!
A great afternoon spent here with all staff being incredibly helpful should you ever need assistance.

DON'T buy tickets in advance! You will be charged and then you will still have to stand in huge lines to exchange your vouchers for tickets . TOTAL RIPOFF!!

To avoid the huge waits, get tickets online. after a minimum of thirty minutes of waiting, walked right in. The planetarium, blue whale, ape, and dinosaur exhibitions were all quite good.

An amazing collection, but could have better descriptions and more places to sit. Did not like the long line to get in despite buying tickets before arriving.

The museum, easily accessible across from Central Park, is really huge. We, in almost 4 hours inside, did not see everything we would have liked and should have seen, with the right calm, but still it was absolutely worth it, because very interesting
Recommendation because there is a nice atmosphere.

It had been 20 years since I last visited this museum, and I enjoyed my visit then, but this time, there were many deficiencies. There is NO place to sit anywhere in the museum aside from the animal diorama exhibition hall; the dining room was overpriced and not god, and the service surly; artifacts are poorly labelled - nothing is dated; and THE most officious cop I have ever run into in my life was at the front of the building and started yelling at me when I sat to tie my shoes!

Great dioramas of African wildlife and landscapes. Very immersive and fantastic for people of all ages. Good restaurant as well.

Worth the visit if you have the time and money to go. You could spend several hours. We were there only 1.5-2 hours, but could have stayed longer. Good for adults and kids.

Highly recommend taking a free Highlights tour if short on time. Our guide, a lovely lady called Vickie Costa was fantastic. We really feel we saw much more than we would have exploring ourselves.
Also loved the Planetarium shows.

We took our eight year-old great grandson to New York for the weekend. He chose this museum. It was very educational, awe inspiring and fun to navigate. Although he did not read all of the placards, he truly enjoyed the African exhibition with all of the animals of which he could identify most of them. What a great time.

Since the pandemic you have to pre-buy your tickets. Fortunately, while looking at the site, I saw this and did it. You also have to select a time, which I did. I was disappointed when I arrived, that there was a line to enter, and that line went around the block, everyone had timed tickets. I thought that would be one advantage of pre-buying tickets, no need to wait in line to get them. Apparently the time on the ticket is not really enforced as many people in line had an earlier time, but were late. Having to stand in line to get in, reduced the time I had to visit the museum, which was disappointing.
This is still one of my favorite museums, and in the future, I'll factor waiting in line in when making my purchase.

Fantastic experience to visit the museum and discover the different stages of history.
There should also be Spanish labels

Beautifully presented museum which makes even adults go ‘wow’. We loved that most of the displays are arranged as ‘scenes’ which help you to much better understand the relationships between animals in particular. I really enjoyed the section dedicated to Roosevelt’s conservation efforts. The museum has a logical layout and we managed to get round it all as a result (we spent 4.5 hours here). They also have an app you can use to navigate it, although we were quite satisfied with the old-school paper map. I recommend arriving early as it is much quieter at 10am than it is later on in the day. It is by far the best Natural History Museum I have visited (compared to London).
Minor points of improvement would be touching up some of the animal name signs as there are letters missing which make it look tired in places. The dinosaur floor feels quite cramped when there is so much space dedicated to much smaller exhibits on Floor 1.

Known through films, this unique and mythical place lives up to its reputation. Beautiful staging of the wildlife existing on the planet. The planetarium is also to be made

Went here on a Saturday at around 1pm. Was panicked as we approached and saw a line that wrapped around the building. Luckily this was the line to buy tickets - we bought ours online and strongly recommend you do the same - $60 for 2 tickets.
The museum is 4 levels and we started on the level 2 which was some animals of the americas and people/civilizations - some would say the most boring level. We then went to the more exciting areas that were much more crowded - the dinosaurs on level 4 and the ocean and blue whale areas on level 1.
There are shops, food and drink on each level and plenty of clean bathrooms. The place was packed and some areas were hot and some were much cooler.
It was nice to go to once.

The place is very big. It requires many hours of visit and becomes exhausting. It's an interesting place and I don't regret going. But maybe it would have been better to use that time somewhere else. The planetary that was one of the bigger interests I found kind of weak. I wish I had seen the whale but it was closed. I was sad. The elephant part is pretty legal. The part of the dinosaurs, too. The representations of the animals are quite realistic.

Very different from the movie "At night in the museum"!!!
For those like me who wanted to see the T-Rex, Roosevelt on the horse, the American and Roman little men, etc., it is disappointing, because there is nothing!!!
The museum is fine, with many different areas to see.
I recommend using the APP to move around the museum, because the same is large and then there are unseen areas.

Our family planned an afternoon at the American Museum of Natural History during our day around Central Park. We chose to rent bicycles for getting around Central Park and the surrounding area. The museum does have bicycle racks, which we were able to use and noticed other families were also. Personally, if we return we would probably not do the bicycle around park to the museum, as the in/out of Central Park and NYC 'street biking' made us nervous with our family.
The museum in and of itself is a wonderful time. The museum is huge with many exhibits to see, so budget your time accordingly! There were some summer interns around that provided 'pop up' tours to ourselves and other guests. This was a fun touch and provided nice individual interactions. Our one child actually was working a bit on a summer school project, and they were able to assist them for 15-20 minutes finding certain items/terms, which was really cool!
Overall, we RECOMMEND the museum as a great spot to tour with family or your group! We would recommend to set a timeframe and work within your ability for the day; unless you spend the entire day (or tow perhaps) do not expect to be able to see every display or section in depth. There is alot to take in!

Just like the rest of NYC the size of this museum is over whelming. Forget about the romantic vibes of Night at the Museum. The real deal has a much more clinical look. However, the amount of historical artefacts is unlike anything I have ever seen. The dinosaurs are of course the main attraction and popular insta feed material. However, for me the floor with Theodor Roosevelt history and scenarios of wild life made it for me and stands out as the thing that made the biggest impression. Worth a visit by all means 👍🏻

Overcrowded no space to see things. Waited a long long time to enter the building and waited another long time. Chaotic.

Really amazing museum.
Huge, go with time to walk and appreciate every detail. For those who love dinosaurs, there is a floor only for dinosaurs.
Great experience, super recommend and with affordable tickets.

The main part is statues of animals. The planetarium was quite impressive. The Dino’s were very unique. Not something I would really recommend. But it’s still a must see if your in NY

I love museums. Almost any kind of museum will attract my interest. Like the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. Located at 200 Central Park West, at 79th Street, on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, in Theodore Roosevelt Park, across the street from Central Park, the museum complex comprises 21 interconnected buildings housing 45 permanent exhibition halls in addition to a library and a planetarium. Established in 1869, the museum contains 32 million specimens of plants, animals, fungi, fossils, minerals, rocks, meteorites, human remains and human cultural artifacts. The numbers are awesome. The museum occupies more than 2.5 million square feet of exhibition space, has a full-time scientific staff of 225 and sponsors over 120 special field expeditions each year. Open from 10 to 5:30 daily, visitors can see everything from centuries-old specimens to entirely new types of specialized collections like frozen tissues and genomic data. The museum's scientific collection features more than 32 million specimens and artifacts from an irreplaceable record of life on Earth, the span of geologic time and knowledge about one vast universe. See a rock that is 4.3 billion years old and fossils of extinct animals that lived 11,000 years ago in Indiana. See displays of Asian and African and North American mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, forests, environments and ocean life. Also Asian and African and South American and Pacific and Native American peoples. The museum was declared a New York City Landmark in 1967 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.

It was a struggle to visit the museum on the eve of Thanksgiving, as the whole environment was organizing for the Macys parade. But it was worth so much sacrifice.
Especially for the new space: the butterfly! What a fantastic thing. As a resident of Rio de Janeiro, I was joyful and sad at the same time to see that the blue butterfly, so striking and endemic in our childhood, today is no longer seen.
It is also inevitable to remember the contempt, the disregard of the UFRJ with the National Museum. The same crowd that ran in queues and spent millions visiting the American Museum could also be visiting our archives, if the Brazilian state and universities had a little care and respect for our cultural heritage.
It's hard to have to travel 9,000 kilometers to be able to see something that visited us in our backyard.

An unbelievably humongous museum with something on-view for everyone. The elephant, turtle, dinosour skeletons are amazingly well-recreated. The museum is so large it would take days to see it all so you have to select specific sections to see. Not at all crowded.

We hadn’t been there for 30 years and it was Mrs Gang’s new wing that made us want to go there, well took us because this building is among those made in New York in recent years the most amazing, the most stimulating for the imagination and the most evocative, do you know others that remind us of a dinosaur skeleton, a hive, tunnels sometimes dug by lava, Cappadocia... in short organic structures, minerals, societies, habitats... what a fantastic success for a natural history museum!!!
After wherever we go we remain fascinated by what is offended in our eyes, we planned to take a look at the minerals and we spent more than an hour and a half there, then we took the path that went through the dioramas and we ended up wanting to see them all and so on.
I don’t think another natural history museum is as rich and spectacular as this one.

Travelled there in July 2024 with a long time NY friend. On a really tight budget. They were shocked to learn that admission was by pre booked tickets only. Heard the same comment multiple times by people standing around outside. Was really disappointed especially considering major European museums have switched to free. Guess we should have done more research.

The Museum of Natural History in Manhattan is an absolute blast! From dinosaurs to wildlife dioramas, every exhibit is a journey through Earth's history. Interactive displays and friendly staff make learning about science and nature a joy. A must-visit for anyone curious about the world around us!

First time visitor. There was so much to see and do. The layout was easy to follow. Everything was very well organized. Went with my adult daughter and her partner, we spent about 4 hours exploring all the nooks and crannies. We did do the Vivarium and invisible worlds which were extra charges. Well worth it. A great experience. The staff was friendly and answered all of the questions asked.

Great museum and especially the dinosaur exhibition is fantastic.
We arrived at 14 a.m. and were only in line for about 15 minutes to buy our tickets.
What pulls down is the crazy noise level with crazyly many noisy children. We left after a few hours.

So much to see, we started with the Night at the Museum sights and then expanded from there, felt reminiscent of the Smithsonian - you could definitely spend more than one day. We had a teenager and 2 elementary school aged kids with us, everyone loved it.

Interesting place with lots to see, friendly guy at the entrance to the building, well organised and easy to find what you're looking for!

A major family attraction in New York city. The American museum of national history is considered one of the world's largest and most notable museum.

One of the most famous museums, we went there with my wife a few years ago, the different pieces with different periods of our era was a superb discovery, special mention for pieces on the solar system and prehistory

A visit to this museum is a must, every room always contains something interesting. Dinosaurs are just the icing on the cake.

AMNH is one of the best museums in the world and it's always a pleasure to visit it when we're in town. The exhibits are fantastic and they have a mix of very traditional dioramas of animals (that are extremely well done) to more modern exhibits. The Hayden Planetarium is also wonderful and I definitely recommend seeing one of the shows there. Pricing is reasonable for what you get and there's discounted tickets for NY residents. It's a must-see when you're in NYC!

This museum is just okay. I am a huge fan of museums but this was probably one of my least favorite museums, especially for its size. Some exhibits were very very interesting, but I felt a lot of it was not really worth the money and effort spent going there. I enjoyed The Met a lot more, which was unexpected. The layout of this museum is awful. We went in and immediately got lost.
Somehow we could walk up a flight of stairs and end up on the same floor we were on before going up. It was so, so confusing. We even had a map and really struggled. Also at one point we walked past an employee who was talking to another patron, and she called to us "Can I see your tickets?" And when we turned around she wouldn't look at us and didn't say anything else. We hesitantly kept going because we thought she must not have been talking to us and she rudely demanded to see our tickets and acted like we were committing some sort of crime.
We had tickets. She had also seen us walk past her several times before this. I just found the attitude and initial refusal to look at us (to the degree we didn't even think we were who she was talking to) offputting.
There is good content to see in this museum, but a lot of it does seem to just be replicas. The layout was terrible and we got lost so many times that by the end we both just kind of wanted to escape.

The New York Natural History Museum is right next to Central Park, almost half the length of the park! It is a huge museum with great attractions! You need to devote at least 3 hours on site and this if you are quick! If you have time the Recommendation is to stay 5 to 6 hours! The Museum has cafes and restaurants too! Even buying tickets by app (there are several offering the Attraction, I bought mine by Tiqets and liked), you should schedule the visit time on the spot directly on the museum page, but the app tells you how to do! There is an entrance behind the museum, which is new, where the formation of the queue is smaller! A cultural tour that is worth it! I recommend!

I had been wanting to visit this museum for many years and it certainly didnt disappoint We had a personnel guide as one of us is registered blind His name was Sasha He walked us through the museum at our pace and explained about the displays very clearly We were then free to revisit any of the exhibits we wished to We arrived at 10.30 and left about 3.30 and really that was not enough time We would love to visit the the museum again when next in New York A big thank you to Sasha for being our guide

The museum was a good choice. We enjoyed the dinosaur exhibits and the planetarium show very much! It was interesting and entertaining.it is affordable!

This is my husband's favorite place in the whole world. We come here often and see new things everytime. The hall of north American Mammals is my personal favorite with the hall of African Mammals close behind. What we recently learned is that from 1630 to close, you can get in for free! Yep... free. So if you're in the area and need to kill a little time before a great dinner, you can go learn in a magical place.

Great place to take the kids, lots of information and discoveries. It was a very good walk. Very cordial employees.

An exhibition full of nature. Imperdível. From the various civilizations, the world of dinosaurs, the marine life to space.

The game is not worth the candle... endless line x a museum that let me down totally plastic and that's it... nothing more nothing less... deserves in my opinion only the part about dinosaurs

Very informative , the museum was fantastic. The set up and the history was Devine. One of New Yorks main attractions, family friendly and food friendly. A definite must when visiting NewYork.

Incredibly beautiful museum, where you can entertain yourself for a whole day.
We particularly loved the sections about the oceans, African and North American mammals.
Also floor 4 with the skeletons of the prehistoric animals was fascinating.
As far as we are concerned, this museum is a must when you are in New York!!!!

It was amazing. So many exhibitions to see. The animals looked very realistic. I found reading about all of the indiginous people really interesting. I would recommend taking a jumper though regardless of the weather as the Aircon makes the building very cold.

We went at 4.30pm and it was quite quiet, which made it a more pleasurable experience. It is free to visit after 4.30 and if you start at the top floor you can cover a lot of ground during that last hour. We saw everything we wanted to Also, you finish on the ground floor, and there is a subway station directly under the museum. so you can make a quick exit when required.

Very interesting museum. There are so many section to see. My favourite, the insects and butterflies. I recommend it to family visiting NYC. Well worth the money.

Nice museum. Lots to see. Plenty of choices to have a snack or meal too. Plenty bathrooms. Order tix in advance. We went on a Friday July morning and it was busy but not overly crowded. Only recommendation would be better signage within museum and on maps.

The NYC Natural Museum of History is a must-see stop.
You can go through Indo-American, Asian and pre-history all in one place.
Really a must-see ride.

I went there for my stay in New York because it reminds me of a famous movie. There are a lot of people, the rooms are large, spacious, we still see pigeons or seagulls stuffing. It's huge. On the other hand, a warmth, plan to dress light and a bottle of water.

The American Museum of National History offers a huge selection of exhibits. In addition, there are changing special exhibitions on different themes, we had a butterfly exhibition with real, free-flying animals, an exhibition on single-celled organisms, the true survivalists and a 3D show with the theme: Biodiversity and evolution.
We really liked the museum, a clear recommendation!

All in one place natural history, from all over the world. Good organisation, good information, well displayed. From pre-history to modern time. Nice butterfly experience. it gets busy. A bit outdated, could be more modern, interactive.

The American museum of natural history features many floors of packed exhibits showcasing some of the highlights of our world and how we had adapted in modern day.
I especially liked the animal exhibits, they were carefully designed and so pretty.
I would recommend this for anyone visiting New York, you can spend as long as you want here as there is so much to see.

This is an excellent museum, it is one of the very best in the world. There are dozens / hundreds / thousands of reviews online telling you how great the museum is.
But - I'll add some negatives / and notes to help others.
The outside queuing is chaotic and annoying. We had a buggy, there was a member of staff walking along the line, at no point did he tell us we could have gone down the ramp rather than carried up the steps. Similarly, at no point, until we got to the top of the steps, with our buggy, were we told that there was a different line for people who had already got 10am entry tickets. There was no sign posts indicating either the ramp for people with buggies (or in wheel chairs etc), nor for people who had already bought 10am entry tickets online. Better signage would mean smoother queues and for us in particular less time stood in the unseasonably hot morning sun.
Aside from that, the museum is magnificent - although one final minor niggle was that quite a few areas were looking a little unloved, from certain angles the thick layers of dust on the back of the dinosaur skeletons was quite visible.

Absolutely a must visit especially when you are in New York with kids. We booked the tickets in advance as the time slots were introduced.
It is the largest natural history museum in the world, spans 4 city blocks and consists of around 25 interconnected buildings. It accommodates 45 permanent exhibition halls, a planetarium and a library. It is located next to the Central Park.
Depend on what you want to see you have to calculate at least 3 hours for seeing parts of the museum.
And do not forget, the famous series ''Friends'' was shot here, as Ross and if I am not mistaken Joey worked here.

Honestly, I kind of hated this museum. The rock collection was pretty great, and the lobby dinosaurs and gift shops were neat. But the majority of this museum is just creepy, life sized, stuffed animals and it was unsettling to me. I would recommend spending time most anywhere else in NYC over this museum, especially the MOMA.

It is big museum and it has many interesting expositions. We saw big dinosaur bones and skeletons. Also lots of stuffed animals. It is very close to subway and Central park. Also you can see big whale

We recently visited the Natural History Museum in New York with our family, which included two children aged 1 and 6. It was an extremely interesting and educational experience.
The museum is incredibly vast, divided into several levels, which can make the visit a bit dispersive. It’s true that we skipped a few rooms, but that didn’t in any way compromise the appeal of the Attraction.
We particularly enjoyed the interactive exhibits and exhibitions covering a wide range of scientific topics. Children were fascinated by dinosaurs and giant sea creatures, while we adults appreciated the depth and exhaustiveness of the information provided.
I highly recommend a visit to the New York Museum of Natural History to anyone interested in natural history and looking to spend an educational and fun day with the family.

Had a visit to the museum. The Planetarium experience was really good but comes at an optional extra cost. There were many interesting exhibits over multiple floors.

The museum is huge with so much to see and do. We bolted on the planetarium experience which was really good and educational. The gem and minerals and dinosaur sections were also fascinating although very busy on the Sunday we visited. What I don’t understand is the over complicated payment systems they have. Pre-booked tickets had a longer queue than non pre-booked because tickets had to be validated, QR coded versions issued and then scanned, what’s the point of pre-booking then? The website says no large backpacks but plenty of people had them. Lunch in the food court charged by the 1/4 pound but gave no way to check the weight before paying to see if what you had chosen was over or underweight. It all just seemed really over-complicated and not very visitor friendly in direct contrast to the London version, although maybe I’m biased!!

We bought tickets online before we flew to NYC and made a reservation for the butterfly room too. The staff member outside of the front entrance was a bit over the top with trying to gain entry into the building as he was explaining our ticket choices. We just wanted to see the museum. It is a huge building with loads of exhibits. Very well done. We had an issue with gaining entry into the butterfly exhibit and the staff there were not accommodating at all. They were very rude with customer service. Luckily we had joined the museum when we bought tickets online and we went to member services where a very nice staff member reissued our butterfly tickets and we were able to gain access. We found the rest of the museum wonderful with great exhibits and attention to detail. Restrooms were clean, gift shop areas had welcoming staff members, we enjoyed it and will be back on our next stop to NYC.

The museum was not crowded. Early morning would be better to enjoy quiet time. Every exhibit felt like the animals were there with you. I would say I would like to have spent more time. the pace was good no one rush through staff was there to answer questions. The front receptionist were very helpful. It suited us well. my expectation were met and it went beyond what I had thought. The cost was very reasonable since we got the Senior Citizen discount However I would have paid full price because it was well worth it. Everyone would definitely benefit.

Wonderful would need two days to visit everything!!
All the wonderful exhibitions
The structure the explanations and the organization is the great highlight of the museum

First of this the best Natural History Museum in the World 🌎. Second they have the best Dinosaur 🦕 exhibit I ever seen. Third they have nice exhibit on the Chicxulub crater . Lastly, the nice 😊 ocean exhibit.

排隊時,有小朋友已經笑著說 " I come here because of the movie! " 而我又何嘗不是呢!
來《American Museum of Natural History》乘搭紐約地鐵的 C 及 B 線,在 81 St-Museum of Natural History 下車,就可以來到了。
在地鐵站一轉出來,就已經見到兩條都幾長下,但不斷地移動的排隊一龍。間過兩條一龍既分別只是由正門入及由側門入既分別之後,我選擇似乎是較少人排,由 "The Rose Center for Earth and Space" (全名叫 "The Frederick Phineas and Sandra Priest Rose Center for Earth and Space" 的展館大門,進入博物館。
這一個 The Rose Center for Earth and Space,主要展覽的,是與大空探索有關的。

The museum has many very beautiful theme areas.
I particularly Recommendation the rooms with reconstructions of the natural habitats they transport to the various areas of the world.

Don't miss the free Highlights Tour! Malcolm, a volunteer, provided a world-class tour that lasted just over one hour. From the first few minutes to the finale, we were captivated.

Museum is awesome. Absolutely beautiful. Please do not buy your tickets anywhere but the museum website. We bought our tickets through a 3rd party and stood on line for 45 minutes for paper tickets when we arrived!

I really enjoyed it. One of the few nature museums that leaves you speechless!! Skeleton of dinosaurs 🦕 impressive. Well cared for and truly scenic. $30 well spent!

Great museum, bad and very rude reception staff. We had to line up again at the back of the line, even though we had reserved and queued normally, because the lady at the counter did not see that we had already queued and waited 15 minutes. Despite reservation and already paid tickets, that was really extremely strange and rude. The museum itself is totally great.

It's really amazing. Very well structured museum and with many attractions. I went with family, with 2 children (8 and 10 years old). They were very interested, both in the parts with animals from all over the world (packed), and in the others about mining experience and about the creation of the land (big bang). All guides indicated that 4 hours in the museum would be enough for the visit. But we stayed for six hours or more... we only left when the museum closed... I highly recommend.

Just a short walk across Central Park from The Met, you'll find the Museum of Natural History. More fun and interactive than the Met, the NHM has animals, dinosaurs and so much in between to satisfy your animal cravings. Another huge museum, take your time and enjoy a 2 hour tour of fun and education. Loved it!

Amazing this museum. I thought my grandson was gonna get bored. 6 hours we were inside. 300 photos .We ate in the cafecitos of the museum
Nice choice.

Big disappointment! The Americans make a big deal of it, but then total disappointment! The film “Night at the Museum” really embellished the place and the reality is quite different.
> Too many people
> Too many paid ancillary activities
> The exhibitions leave something to be desired (stuffed skeletons and animals) did not fascinate us more than that
I think we love it or we hate it, we hated it.

This was my favorite Natural History Museum that I have visited so far. There were a ton of exhibits, structural interests, and the planetarium show was so cool! I highly recommend this as something to do with people of all ages.

Spectacular visit , the museum is very large, surely it would take several days to visit it well. Beautiful dinosaurs and gems.

We spent half a day in this magnificent museum.
Each floor encompasses an era . It passes from Prehistory to the present day. Beautiful experience in the Planetary Room.

Honestly, we went there to discover the new Gilder wing thinking to see ub beautiful architectural gesture. Bof ...
Neither the volumes nor the materials nor the drawing "honeycomb" surprise. Eight minutes is enough. On the other hand, some beautiful Collections and presentations, especially in bad weather and with the family. En face, Central Park...

To much to see, we walked in it for 3 hours. Loved it. From the bears, wolfs, flowers, earth, birds, rino's and much more. Loving it.

Amazing, Beautiful...i dont have words for descrive this.
I come with my parents in 2019 and this Is my First time in Ne York.

Always love coming to the natural history museum, if you want to do a specific exhibit you should book ahead as we wanted to do the butterflies and they were sold out for the day

Top 3 best museums for sure! There are a lot of great things to see. If you take your time to really explore, you could definitely spend a full day there. You can also interact with some pieces. They even have a scale that shows you what you’d weigh on the moon. Really cool. I don’t want to spoil it too much, but you have to make this museum a priority if you’re in NYC. Plus, it’s extremely close to Central Park. I loved it here. Can’t wait to come back.
Advice: buy tickets in advance and try to go earlier so you avoid large crowds.

Fantastic museum — if you can get in. Weekend lines are consistently, ridiculously long. Driven by completely inefficient processes and staffing. Doesn’t matter if you pre-purchase tickets. I live locally and have a membership, but it doesn’t help much because the security line wraps around the block. They have like 3 people at the counter for hundreds of families, where each family gets to the front and spends five minutes hemming and hawing about which subset of exhibit tickets to buy. I truly love this museum enough to be a member, but it is an inane experience.

We could pass here i think 1 week and still find something extraordinary. We didnt had so much time so we concentrated our time over the dinosaure floor. it is so much impressive. if you are fan of the movie, a night at museum it is also fun to see some stuff that took place in the movie. kids and adults loved it.

I made the mistake of visiting on a weekend, which meant the museum was insanely packed even in January. There were too many noisy children and I think they overfilled the museum. The exhibits themselves though, I can’t fault. Many interesting galleries. A highlight is the gems and minerals exhibit

Who among us didn't love the movie A NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM with Ben Stiller???
With my teenage son I visited the museum of American natural history.. a wonderful experience... a must stop if you are on vacation in New York

Interesting and fun especially for children. It's the first time I've seen dinausaurs.
The presentation on elephants is good too.

We visited on a Monday and it was extremely busy, especially with school trips, children wandering about and bumping into to you aimlessly. There is no air conditioning, we visited on a cold and rainy day and it was sweltering inside all the exhibits. Booking time slots should be implemented as it was so busy it was a struggle to see all the exhibitions.

We had wandered into the museum on Friday 6th September and continued to wander aimlessly until we were rescued by their delightful staff, and offered a tour of the museum, a highlights' tour apparently. It was just the three of us and it was our best decision all weekend!
Tom Parker was a gentleman with a wealth of knowledge that was astounding. The use of the headset was marvellous. The pace was perfect. I have already recommended this to other friends who actually live in New York. Probably the best thing we did all weekend. Well done! I hope I have remembered Tom's name correctly.

Biggest museum I ever visited, but the best one too, will definitely recommend and come back as well because it is really big couldn’t finish it

Always wanted to visit this museum with my kids, ages 14, 11, and 8. Of course the Hayden planetarium was our favorite especially the Beyond Worlds show. I also loved the geological displays.

We had the pleasure of visiting this museum during our stay in New York. The museum is huge, with many different rooms dealing with many themes. The staging, especially of animals in their habitat, is very realistic. The exhibits are exceptional, to be seen absolutely, but plan to spend a full day there if you want to see everything. The Restaurant at Gilder located on the first floor is not bad either and allows for a quiet break during the day.

A museum suitable for adults and children. Some parts livelier than others, but overall a great visit with a good degree of teaching.
An immense collection of animal species and artifacts.
Too many people in the summer, but the American organizing machine always works exceptionally

This museum is wonderful. When visiting New York it is mandatory to visit this place. Especially with children.

New York has many great attractions but I highly recommend going here, it can get busy, but it's so worth it. Very educational.

The American Museum of Natural History is definitely a must-visit when in New York City. It's one of the largest and most fascinating museums in the world, so be prepared to walk for at least 3 hours! But it's totally worth it, believe me! There, you can see almost everything that history books teach us in school, from ancient fossils to meteorites and rare gemstones. It was truly amazing to see all those dinosaurs up close and learn more about animal species from around the world, including extinct and endangered ones. Plus, the museum offers incredible exhibits on space, human evolution, and diverse cultures, showcasing artifacts and histories from different civilizations. I would definitely go again because there's so much more to see and learn—one visit is never enough!

An unmissable visit of course the film one night at the museum has a lot to do with it but beyond that the Collections are absolutely extraordinary

High standards. Very informative and very well art up. The flow is easy and you really needs about 2 to 3 hours too go around. Worth the visit.

I spent an amazing afternoon at the American Museum of Natural History - there’s just so much to see! The Gems and Minerals Collection was incredible, especially the giant geodes and the Star of India sapphire, which is over 563 carats. The giant blue whale in the Ocean Life Hall is breathtaking, and the Big Bang Theater in the Rose Center was fascinating - learning how the universe formed 13 billion years ago really puts things in perspective. I also loved discovering that I’d weigh only 19 pounds on the moon! The dinosaur and mammal exhibits were so realistic and detailed.
The Human Origins and World Cultures exhibits were really eye-opening. It was powerful to learn that the genes linked to skin color make up just a tiny fraction of our DNA. In other words, we’re all basically the same underneath - something the world could definitely use a reminder of.
I spent hours there and still didn’t see it all. It’s an incredible place - fun, educational, and full of wonder. Can’t wait to go back!

No matter how old. No matter how many times you’ve been to museums. This is still one of the best in the world. Great exhibitions all around. So well displayed and organized. PS use the app it’s a time saver and really well designed. We did the butterfly exhibit which was totally cool and worth it.

Very nice to have seen. Some parts are recognizable from the film, but the layout is of course completely different. Be prepared for crowds and sometimes a longer queue, even if you have the NY pass

It is a nice museum with very wide displays, for children and adults. There are several levels. We bought the tickets online, however at approximately 11 am. There weren't many people wanting to get in, you can buy the tickets right there too.
The reception of the museum is impressive.
One of the experiences I recommend NOT skipping it is the invisible World, this wonderful and children will love it.
At each level you can go upstairs or by elevator. There are shops to buy souvenirs, drinks, jellies, snacks, etc.
I recommend the bathrooms farthest from the door or access, because they line up and are a little dirty and smelly.
Ticket cost: 39 adults, 24 children and seniors $31 per ticket and experiences.
We lasted approximately 41⁄2 hours and lacked several exposures. Super recommended for a hot day in New York, it's pretty cool in there.

Great museum to explore with children and adults. Beautiful and expansive. We didn’t have time to go to every exhibit, so another reason to return.

Interesting, rich in themes treated and objects exhibited in the different areas, all in the American style, which presents as attractive and anything. Among the paid attractions we saw the Milky Way and it was spectacular!
A visit to make for those going to New York!

Beautiful museum suitable for people of all ages. Interesting the ethnographic part and the beautiful part dedicated to dinosaurs. Museum ordered and little dispersive unlike others in New York.

We found the museum to be very difficult to find our way around. The map was not detailed enough. We struggled to find check in and were sent to different locations although we had purchased our tickets online. We also had trouble locating restrooms, the exits and felt that we had to back track a lot. We allotted 3 1/2 hrs. but didn’t see all we hoped to.

A beautiful museum, huge, too big and there is much to observe and discover! It is all-encompassing and very interesting! Depending on the type of person, some may get tired or bored of everything there is to watch, read and contemplate. Museums are enjoyed by those who appreciate them and it catches their eye for long periods of time and more this kind of giant museum!

this was an extremely memorable experience I will remember for lifetime and come back again and again. we loved to see the animals and we learned so many crucial facts about the natural world.

Excellent! One of the best museums I’ve been to. Get there early! It gets crazy! Buying the tickets ahead of time was definitely the way to go.

The kids absolutely loved this experience from start to finish. The place is very clean and spacious, so there is plenty of freedom for them to explore. The adored the interactive life show the most, really creative pieces in here. A lot of familiar spots and exhibits like the movie which the boys were thrilled with too. A must!

While we take full accountability for going to the museum on a busy Saturday, as someone with a physical disability, it was a challenging building to navigate. We were able to find one set of elevators, however had difficulty getting on them due to large crowds and strollers needing them as well. We used the stairs mostly as a result, which is difficult for me. At the top of one set of stairs (1st to 2nd floor), we were trying to get our bearings (there was no signs, and I needed to shift back into my prosthetic leg) and a security guard yelled, "Go this way or that way, you can't just stand here." It was embarrassing.
Overall, though, the exhibits were wonderful with informative signage and interesting notes. Every exhibit pulled us in, and we found ourselves wanting to learn more about every single thing we saw. I would definitely bring a smaller sized stroller or wear little ones so they can get up close (families with wagons and larger strollers seemed to be struggling).
Also - wonderfully clean bathrooms!

There’s no need of buying tickets online . You ‘ll need to get in those hour long lines anyway! Horrible Horrible Horrible

We put this on our itinerary for our couples trip with friends to NYC in December as half the group wanted to do it. It was also an inside activity which was helpful in Dec as it was kinda cold out. We have of course seen the museum in the movies and it is an icon spot in NY and one of the most famous museums in the world. It's a big place and there are cool things to see. I think I just wanted to see the big dinosaur bones which there were a lot of. I just didn't enjoy this as much as I thought I would. I was also super hangry so that might be partially why. Glad I got to say I've been but I think there are probably better museums or activities to do while in NYC.

expectations were very high and were partially disappointed.
A museum like any other, which does not turn on enthusiasm.
Too bad.

We had a fantastic morning at the American Museum of Natural History, truly a must-visit when in NYC! It’s really easy to get to via the metro system, and from the moment we walked in, we were impressed.
Admittedly, I had a certain image in mind thanks to Night at the Museum, but the real thing is even better! The exhibits are fascinating, with so much variety that every member of the family found something to enjoy. From the dinosaur skeletons to the space displays and cultural artifacts, it’s all incredibly well presented.
The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, adding to the overall positive experience. We’ve been to the Natural History Museum in London, but this one definitely outshines it.
There’s so much to see and do, so I’d highly recommend planning ahead, going early, and giving yourself plenty of time to explore. A memorable highlight of our NYC trip!

So much to see, it's almost overwhelming! Don't miss the room with the blue whale. I knew it was the largest animal on earth but had no clue how big it was! It makes the great white shark look small. Loved all the dinosaurs. If you can, give this place a full day. We didn't get through it all in half a day.

5 we really enjoyed the wonderful place we're all happy thank you to whoever created this awesome good luck app everyone in life

This is a must see if visiting NYC. Something for all ages and stages. The food court also catered for our coeliac with a gf pizza and choc brownie which was awesome. Would definitely recommend.

Hello, I think quite dated... we went out after two hours. Very boring and outdated.
Of course personal points of view

this is a historic stop in New York (a bit like a statue of liberty, empire state building, etc.) that has become over the years also known for the famous film; the museum is huge and is divided into various areas ranging from zoology to paleontology, astrophysics to biodiversity obviously with the most popular represented especially by those of dinosaurs; the space you can visit is huge so arm yourself with patience to orient yourself and follow a path that also depends on the entrance from which you enter; here we touch two sore notes that push me not to leave the maximum mark: entering the planetarium (northeast side entrance) you can not visit the famous barosaurus scene because that is another entrance that is forbidden transit (the guard did not let me pass); second aspect absolutely disappointing is that online tickets have an entrance time (as it should be) to stick to and, considering that the visit lasts at least 4-5 hours (unless you want to skip entire areas), it is not tolerable to wait 1 hour and a half just for security checks with endless lines outside

There are many interesting things to see and do in this museum, especially the audiovisual hall about the Big Bang and the Universe

Its ok but it didn't wow me. I think the Met has better natural history than this one´. Seems more for schools. The best part is the planetarium.

Went my 18 year old daughter. She is a history/museum lover. We were there from open to close and barely got it all in. So many amazing exhibits to see and explore.

The world class American museum of natural history is a must do for families with small children. We went the Monday before Thanksgiving at 3pm and the museum was practically empty.
After dumping our coats and bags in the convenient lockers on the LL floor, we had a light and expensive meal at the museum cafeteria. Spent $100 for 4 slices of pizza and a hot dog.
On our bucket list, the life-sized blue whale and dinosaur hall. The space area was also fascinating and we had 2 hours to tour the beautiful museum.

Beautiful, completely different from our European museums.
It contains some incredible artifacts.
It would take days to visit it all x well.
ATTENTION: closes at 17:30

Worth a visit, it is interesting. Especially the dinosaur part, especially for kids.
The advice is not to go too late, because then you risk making the visit in a hurry and if you want to shop at the store do not reduce yourself to the last minute, because they are punctual in closing!!

A really fun place to visit. There are several things you can well see is getting old.
Now it's the third time I've been there in five years and this time there was a little new stuff that made the experience a little better.
If this is your first time in New York, you should go in and see it.

This museum contains some of the World’s best dinosaur bones. Central Park in New York, City has GREAT museums of all sides. For a navigation reference Manhattan Island is only about two miles wide. To avoid long lines it is a great idea to arrive in the morning about 15 minutes before the museum opens.
On a side note the gift shops have some GREAT educational squish toys, planets etc…

Depending on your itinerary this would be a great museum to visit while in NYC. Our young adults went with this for a nostalgia stop on our trip to NYC, being Night at the Museum fans. The building is amazing and the volunteers are super helpful. We spent most of our time in the Hall of Ocean Life and in the Prehistoric/Fossil Exhibits which the museum is known for. We were very impressed by the fossils. All in all this was a great visit and if your family enjoys museums it would be a great stop while in NYC (maybe paired with some time in Central Park)

My boyfriend and I purchased tickets online without anyone saying you could not do so and the ticket scanning man was so unprofessional and rude. Instead of him kindly explaining to us that we bought the wrong tickets he rudely yelled at us to get back in line and did not explain to us what we needed to do to get the correct tickets. Beautiful museum but staff is highly rude.

The American Museum of Natural History is one of the most renowned museums in the world, it is a must-see. It’s a favorite among both New Yorkers and tourists, so be prepared for large crowds and long lines, especially at the ticket kiosk.
The museum is massive, spanning four floors filled with famazing exhibits and a planetarium. Some special exhibits and events, such as the butterflies, elephants, or Milky Way shows require separate or additional tickets, so plan accordingly.
This is a wonderful destination for families, kids, and adults alike.
My advice:
Pick a few sections to focus on and plan to return another day.
If you have a third-party voucher, you’ll still need to wait in line to exchange it for a museum ticket.
Check in advance which exhibits require extra admission, especially the temporary ones.
Due to its size, it’s impossible to experience everything in a single visit.
It is absolutely worth the visit.

Very good museum experience just immense incredible very polite kind and professional staff, museum of very high quality and clean.

Nothing interesting , we didn’t get impression . Inside of museum is very complicated , even not to clear how to move inside of museum . I dont recommend to visit better walk in the beautiful New York streets

This experience was one of the best in all my trip in ny, highly racomanded for Children and Who loves nature and animal, the museum is huge and has many exhibition, my fav was the ocean life. 10/10.

Arrived with Go City pass. Will Call window closed, so queuing in ticket sales queue which is huge and barely moving. A man sitting on a chair, told my husband if you have a QR code we could just get it scanned...... only to be told it was a different QR code. Had to rejoin the main queue again which is now even larger! Really poor admissions process.

The exhibits were once in a lifetime experience. From the whale hanging from the ceiling to the dinosaur bones and diorama, stunning.

Museum to visit and not miss absolutely full of history. Impossible to see everything if you do not dedicate several days. We recommend choosing only a few thematic areas of personal interest to fully enjoy them.

I was not able to used the tickets that I purchased from you to get admission to the museum. I to repurchase the tickets at the museum.

I came here in my own and had a very entertaining time. Some exhibits were great, specially in the new building. There are some that you have to pay extra and you get your moneys worth as is the case of the planetarium and some are not as in the immersive experience. The latter is ok but the sound is awful and the parent let kids run around yelling which deters the technology. The food court was awful with mainly junk food and the app is confusing to use. The gemstones and rock display was very good as well as the insectarium

Lots of dead animals visiting a cemetery would have been more joyful, no translation made contrary to what we do in France more security officers should work in prisons instead of rubbing shoulders with tourists

The most beautiful museum ever! I've been there 2 times and will definitely be back! All eras of the world in this museum! Perfectly kept fossils and beautiful dinosaurs!

Visiting this museum for both adults and children gives us a glimpse of our world by the extensive collections and exhibitions on natural history and evolution of the planet that we can appreciate both fossils, animals, plants, fungi, minerals, meteorites, everything related to life on our planet.

Bought ticket on line. Went to ticketed line entry. Found out my on-line ticket was just a voucher. Had to get back to long entry line and wait like everyone else. Museum map very confusing to follow. Have been to many better user friendly museums.

This was the highlight of our trip. Great museum with incredible inventory that was breathtaking. The buffet restaurant was also very nice and reasonably priced. Don’t miss the floor no 4 with the dinosaurs

We entered the museum at 12 noon and noted it was closing at 4pm that day. Four hours felt like plenty of time to see everything. In fact, the security guards started closing the exhibition halls at 2pm and we were politely but firmly ushered out. I felt the museum itself was old fashioned and the many staged exhibits, especially the stuffed animals were boring. I liked the crystals exhibit. The signage in the museum is pretty poor and it’s swarming with kids, makes for a disorienting and difficult visit. It’s also hideously overpriced at $30 each when equivalent museums in Europe, including the fabulous Natural History Museum in London is free. I resented paying this much for two hours looking at dated exhibits. I would not return.

Entrance with sliding booking despite the queue. Rich and well organized exhibition. I also recommend purchasing access to the Hayden Planetarium show, which is simply extraordinary.

One of the "must see" museums in NY. Great exhibits and very well known for the corresponding cinema film. The T-Rex is the star! However, little interaction, you have to read a lot of boards. For us that was OK, but you should know - but there's also a lot to look at.

Kid requested and mine are 16, 20 and 21! We went from 1230-430 and squeezed in one extra exhibit- the Hayden Planetarium! Make sure your students bring IDs to get student discount!
We got a map and selected our displays by order of interest. It was a lot to see with MAJOR walking and steps so bring your good walking shoes and leave the bad knees at home. Of course there were elevators as an alternative but we elected to stair it. It is fascinating to see and I could not believe how many animals I did not read about it in books yet despite my many centuries on this planet. The dinos are impressive and you could literally come here every day and see something you have not seen before. The blue whale gets me every time bc it was the most memorable for me from my first visit as a small girl. I delighted in the fact that my three kids have those nostalgic memories of this place as well that this was top on their list over all the holiday sights in NYC. We skipped the food court and museum shop.
A must do!

This is so cool 👌🏻
Everything is really weird but still amazing 🤩 ✨🐳GIANT WHALE 🐳 ✨
There are a lot of add on experiences which you have to pay a little more for, but they are definitely worth it ! There are lots of interactive experiences to do as well
Must see

Huge, interactive museum.
An experience that I refer to all those who have the least interest in culture.
One tip is: go in time because the museum is very big, we stay 7 hours in there.
Another tip is to do the part the activities it offers, I did two and I did not regret.

Unforgettable activity in NY. A wonderful experience. Parts and excellent spaces, cafeteria if it gives that hunger. Large and clean sanitary facilities. Don't stop going.

Saw the planetarium show, which was excellent, and so much of the museum but I think you’d need more than one visit to truly see everything you could want.
Definite must sees include the amethyst geode, the planetarium, the big whale, and all of the dinos.
Food options are pretty typical for museums and nothing super special.

The museum is great. My experience with buying my tickets in advance with TripAdvisor was a joke.
All they do is give you a voucher that still requires you to wait in the same long Saturday line as all the other people buying their tickets! So there is absolutely no benefit to going through the hassle of buying your ticket in advance with TripAdvisor. I’ll never do it again. Don’t waste your time.

The American Museum of Natural History is always impressive, whether it’s your first visit or a return trip. The exhibits are engaging, thoughtfully curated, and easy to navigate, even with limited time.
We focused on highlights and still spent several hours exploring dinosaurs, space, and the iconic dioramas, which never disappoint. It’s also a fantastic option during the summer, offering a comfortable, air-conditioned break from the heat while still feeling productive and memorable.
A must-see in NYC for visitors of all ages, especially families and teens.

It was just ok, most of the exhibition felt timeworn, some sectors felt chaotic. Indeed there are a lot of exhibits inside, but in comparison to Smithsonian National Museum in Washington this is totally not worth it. If you are visiting just NY you can give it a chance, but do not expect much. I did reservation month before, but that was unnecessary.

Wonderful museum which has been on my bucket list for a long time. It’s large but not overwhelming.
In addition to the exhibits, I need to give a huge shout out to the Cafe on 1 staff. They were so welcoming, friendly and efficient (and have great taste in music!) while serving tasty food. So glad I stopped for lunch instead of heading to an outside restaurant—the panini enhanced an already phenomenal day.

Iconic location
Great exhibitions and items to explore and learn
Paid parking available underground
Big cafeteria with lots of choices can bring own food if you want
Absolutely recommend for NYers and visitors

One of the best museums!! We especially liked vertebrates, human origins and meteorite ones. Thanks for the experience

On May 27 I went to the American Museum of Natural History. The exhibits on many different animals are amazing. I especially liked the dinosaurs on display. Also, they have a very impressive collection of PreColumbian figurines.

Was a bit disappointed in the lack of dates of many of the artifacts- couldn’t tell if they were recent or ancient. I was kind of bored with they way it was presented

A dream for me when I visited this museum, it fulfilled all my expectations.
I went a long time ago, but I guess the exhibition must be very similar.
The dinosaur section is awesome and what to say about American history, I loved it.
The building is classic style and super well located and super easy to get to. I remember it took me time to get in, like, on schedule.
I recommend going on weekdays as I went in the weekend and there were a lot of people and it was difficult to take pictures.
A wonderful experience that I plan to repeat more calmly

Nice but I expected much more, especially after reading so many comments and articles about this museum. It's good for a couple of hours with the family. A little scattered and organized quite badly, unclear instructions and confusion in the sequence of rooms. We also saw a documentary in the theater about the universe: overpriced for so little time.

Amazing museum. Tons to see, well laid out, easy to navigate. High quality exhibitions-we regularly go to the Natural History Museum in London and this tops it on many levels. Children loved the dinosaurs, rainforest, large stuffed mammals and Hayden Planetarium. Highly recommend spending 2h+ here.

The museum is very large and has several interesting themes, what we liked most was the part of the dinosaurs, it is really sensational, very worth a visit...

Just fake.
Paying over 30 USD to see "plastic" reproductions of animals and plants is perhaps fine for children and a few others who come close to the category.
Time wasted.
Cover yourself, because it feels like a freezer.
Only positive experience the planetarium.

A breathtaking journey through the history of humanity and the evolution of nature and planet earth itself. To see it whole, you have to spend about three hours, without stopping to read all the explanations, but more. Admission is moderate but worth the cost.

This is a great museum. We spent most of the day here on a cold NY winter and it was wonderful. Each floor has a great variety of exhibits and the blue whale and dinosaur hall were a favourite. Go and see the space exhibit and the hall of people, so many areas to explore.

Grim experience from start to finish! Surly, miserable staff and very few around. Really can’t be bothered to help you out at all. Poor signage and the paper map has no directional arrows on it so difficult to work what is where! No hands on or interactive exhibits. It’s frankly all a bit boring! The cafes are mucky and outdated looking selling sugary fizzy drinks and sugar laden snacks. The locker rental is outrageously priced as are the food / drinks options. Lastly, we entered mid afternoon, was charged full price and masses of exhibits were closed for a private function. My 3 year old was upset but it was my fault apparently for not checking online! I refute this! Tell me half the place is closed when I get there please! Eventually I was refunded after arguing the toss. Wouldn’t go again ..

Nice tour, we stayed about 3 hours inside the museum. But with a baby becoming tired, we look at the parts we were interested in. But the pass is excellent.

Just amazing walking around and seeing this with your own eyes , which you only heard about it! My son is was amazed with the animals and their sizes! The ants and the way they move and build there way just wow! Loved the Incas and their belongings!

We had a great time visiting the American Museum of Natural History in New York. Everything we saw was pretty cool, and it’s such a fascinating place to explore. However, I would highly recommend purchasing tickets directly through the museum’s website.
If you buy tickets through TripAdvisor (or a similar third-party platform), you’ll need to convert those tickets into official museum tickets. This means waiting in an extra line, in addition to the standard 45 minute line to enter if you’re not a season-ticket holder. Unfortunately, the ticket conversion line took us 35 minutes, which was frustrating and felt unnecessary. While I know this is not TripAdvisor’s fault, the process caused at least a 45 minutes of wasted time.
Additionally, making people more aware of the starting point for general admission tickets would be very helpful.
When we purchase tickets, we expect them to be ready for entry—not like having to exchange currency in a foreign country. The museum itself is incredible, but save yourself the hassle and buy tickets directly from the source!

A wonderful museum, with an ongoing update to the Native American exhibits. Not much has changed since my last visit years ago, which was a bit of a letdown. Crowded due to school trips, and the food court is pricey, so bring your own snacks if possible.

We really enjoyed the day at the AMNH. Have taken everything with them special exhibitions (attention! Be sure to book the planetarium in advance) and they were really great (the butterflies not so unique yet cute, but the planetarium and elephants were incredibly great, the Invisible Worlds can also keep up well and the movie about the turtles 🐢 is totally cute. But the permanent exhibitions are also really nice, all interactive stations worked perfectly (we are very often in museums and this is the first time I think everything really works), at every corner are employees who can help without ifs and but and are well informed, the food in the foodcourt is delicious but quite expensive. My son (8) really enjoyed the insects (beehive), the photography exhibition, the stones (volcanoes/deep sea), minerals and meteorites but also the dinosaurs, the whales, the animals overall very great. Of course we didn't manage everything, we were there from 12 to the end (17.30). The museum is super conveniently located, with Metro B you arrive so that you can directly from the train in the museum and back we walked through Central Park, which was sooo great. Really happy again!

Disappointed, we were lost most of the time, badly sign posted. We asked for a paper map. Didn’t have any. Do it with QR. It was very hard to find what we wanted to see. Crowding and so many kids at Easter. Was not worthwhile for what we paid for. We did the immersive exhibition, it was meh! London does it better for free at Tottenham Court Road, outdoors.
I look at the photos now, looks great we missed the blue whale and dinosaurs. Did not find it. Staff wasn’t helpful at all.
I don’t want to damp your visit. Better go organised otherwise you be like us! It is huge and worth planning. I was expecting better help and sign posting. Never mind!

The first floor was interesting but really, the dinosaurs were the best I've seen. Top floor just full of fossils and skeletons. It was amazing. The only disappointing thing was Ben Stiller was nowhere to be found and no display was active. :-) My wife pointed out that you have to stay after hours for that.......

we enjoyed our trip, perfect for children, interesting, praiseworthy 😊😊😊We learned a lot and got to know a lot of new things.

So much to see - we wanted to see where the Night at the Museum films were based and weren't disappointed!
A stunning building in a stunning location gave us a good day out!
Only minor criticism, not enough clear signage?

So much too see & too take in We had a great time on our visit hadn’t booked online as last min but only waited short time in queue too purchase tickets Highly recommend visiting while in New York

I was looking forward to visiting the museum but was disappointed. There was not enough benches throughout the museum. Any employee we crossed was pleasant and helpful. We live near DC so I believe the museums there spoiled us to others.

This museum truly has it all: diverse exhibitions, full of information that can keep you engaged for hours. On my first trip to New York, I was in a rush and couldn’t take the time to explore each section as I wanted, but even then, I was amazed. It’s the kind of place where you could easily spend an entire day reading, observing, and learning non-stop. I will definitely return, because one visit felt far too short for such a fascinating experience.

The museum is huge and has an incredible collection of items from all over the world! The most amazing part, in my opinion, are the almost complete fossils of dinosaurs, the first I had the opportunity to see live.
It is worth seeing, but it takes plenty of time to visit quietly.

I was worried when my family arrived at the museum shortly before 10am and the line to enter wrapped around the block, but once the doors opened we were inside in less than 10 minutes. My son and his grandfather enjoyed the Dinosaur exhibit. The cafes on site had an assortment of wraps and sandwiches, fruit, coffee, soda and water at reasonable prices which offered a great place to sit down and relax without having to leave the museum. We also did the interactive exhibit which was really cool. The staff was great about warning my elderly parents that the exhibit can cause vertigo and that chairs were available upon request.

I was very excited to go and visit this museum, I am very interested in History. However, upon entry, a horrible shouty guard screamed at visitors to search their bags. My dad included. I was very frightend by this. More problems occurred when my QR wouldn't scan, and staff were unhelpful. Eventually someone helped and I started walking around. The rest of the visit was great.

I bought the tickets in advance to not pick up the queue , Viator did not send me the tickets, I had to stay in the queue to validate , then the ticket said that I would be entitled to watch a presentation, there I was denied the possibility and only paying , so it is not worth buying the tickets for this firm , about the museum is worth , the food court and average to worse

The museum is huge but it is very badly bent. It's a maze even with the plan. It's very hot inside too.
We visited it on a Sunday and there were not many people.
Those who saw the movie at night at the museum, not to be disappointed, do not expect to see the same thing. Nothing matches, just the facade.
City Pass Tour

If you're on the fence about visiting, let me encourage you to go! I had an absolute blast at this place, and I can’t recommend it enough. There’s an incredible array of activities to dive into, and each one is more immersive and fun than the last.
What’s fantastic is that this spot isn’t just for kids or school trips; it’s a perfect venue for a memorable date night too!

It was a beautiful museum with plenty to do, but there’s just too many people and school kids. It was overwhelming. For someone who isn’t too phased by noise and chaos, it was too much for me. I found it hard to enjoy the experience due to the amount of people in one place. I only lasted a couple hours

The museum is amazing!!!! Beautiful animals and so much more!!! We are Love it!!! Parking easy behind to the museum. Huge place list need 4 hours or more walking around huge huge huge!!!!!
Absolutely 10/10 ❤️🙏🏻
Only thing we i “hated “ all the bathrooms was super dirty, insane stuff.. smell horrible, dirty, no toilet seat cover nothing… only negative side to the museum, overall high quality time spend:)

So much to see! Not sure exactly why but I like the dioramas so perfect.
Then the categorization trees for fossils and skeletons. From common characteristics to unique ones... really brings to life the effect of almost billion generations!
We go once a year!

We really enjoyed our visit to the museum. We went specifically to view the Ice Cold exhibition of hip hop jewelry. It was quite impressive to see what the music artists commission jewelry artists to create. It is pretty wild what they love to wear and how ornate the pieces are. The mineral and gem area is amazing. There is so much more to explore and will look forward to doing that on our next visit.

With the family in New York, visit this beautiful museum and see especially the dinosaurs.
Beautiful museum, very complete.
On the other hand, always the only downside is English.
The audio guide isn't there. You have to pay a Guide is not the same budget.

All in all the museum was very good, but it had no resemblance to the night of the museum film, so do not come if you think that it is the same. We came here on a rainy day and the museum was so hot, it was unbearable. There were so many people and it was very crowded.

Well if you think this was going to be a great experience it will definitely exceed your expectations. The exhibits are stunning and the information is fantastic. The only down side is you will run out of time to see everything properly.

Disappointment of this museum. Yeah, it's very full, but it's packed with people, school groups.
Dinosaur Rooms Are Great Success
We swallowed it on a rainy day but we did not hang on to the concept

We spent three hours and could have spent three days. The collections are amazing and there is so much to see. Everything is well displayed, nicely curated, and well organized. Our tickets included a special activity and we chose the Space Show in the Hayden Planetarium. I love that there’s a gift shop on each floor with the theme of whatever the main focus is on that floor. This is my second time at the AMNH and I will visit again!

Great museum with mixture of human history and various cultures round the world, as well as animals dating to dinosaurs to modern day.

So much to see! Be prepared to spend a lot of hours here, there’s so many brilliant exhibits to see. Highly recommend downloading the museum app, which was super helpful in terms of directions and favouriting key exhibits. The museum is a complete maze, we’d have been lost (excuse the pun) without the app.

Everything about the museum WAS AMAZING. Every staff member was so passionate about their museum and I learned so much about each museum with each person I spoke to. I will 100% come back next time in NY

It is a huge museum and difficult to cover in a single day. It was an amazing experience since I visited it for the first time. It was lightly crowded and best for kids to learn from the various exhibits.

I totally recommend, to see it whole it takes almost a day, it is huge. The children hallucinate, if you do not like nature much and animals is passed.

A great visit , enjoyed the variety and history around the building and founders.
Will admit to wanting to see the character's from Night at the museum in exhibits and struggled a little , maybe add this as a feature .
The app was easy to use although the power guide a little out of date and not so easy to navigate round .
Dinosaurs are so good 😃

We arrived via Uber to the museum when it opened at 10AM. There were two lines to get in the door, one for people with tickets and one for people who needed to purchase them. We got in the "with tickets" line and it got into the museum in less than 5 minutes. We ordered our tickets online and just had to show them on our phones.
I had read a review that said about three hours is enough to see the museum. Well, we spent 4 hours there and didn't see everything by a long shot (had another reservation to go to). We did do the planetarium, butterfly, and elephant side excursions however, which lasted about a half hour each. The side excursions are extra, but if you pay for three of them, you can see the other 3 for free. What we did see was very well done, especially the dinosaur exhibits. Will be returning to NY in a few months and will go again and try to see everything,

The museum is huge, and it will take up at least your whole day to see all the exhibits. There were some exhibits that were more popular than the others. I do like that there was available seating at these exhibit halls so one can rest and look at the display without walking so much. There are areas of the museum that are interactive, and those were fun. I didn't go to the ticketed exhibitions, but maybe I will next time I visit. The dinosaur wing was amazing.

A bit expensive and major queueing but worth it. Could do with more toilet but the exhibition is definitely worth a visit..

Very wonderful I loved! Impressive the part of the dinosaurs... surreal the size of these animals. We also made the tour in an observatory of the planets

we went on a Saturday morning expecting it to be very busy - and we wasn't wrong :-)
we wanted to see the dinos exhibition and the ice hold hip hop jewellery exhinition and wasnt disappointed.
the dinos are on the top floor and the whole exhibition is laid out so well with lots of information about them and great skeletons to look at. The Hip hop exhibition was on the first floor and towards the back of the museum but there is an entrance there that you can use and go straight to the exhibition that way. Wow what an exhibition to see all that jewellery and the diamonds.....
we really enjoyed it and was just gutted we didnt have the time to do all of the museaum. if we ever visit New York again it will be def on the list to go back to and spend more time there
we had the go city passes for it so unsure what the cost would have been

This place is absolutely huge; you could easily spend 2 whole days here. However, my friend and I allowed for about 3 hours to cover as much as we could, which was fine. So much taxidermy! Be sure to find the blue whale model and Titanosaur skeleton.
Bring a refillable bottle as water fountains can be found all over- or pay the heinous price of ~£8 for theirs.
For a few extra dollars, we also visited the Hayden Planetarium for a Passport to the Universe show- a wonderfully immersive way to round off our visit.

We only managed to visit the Space area of the museum due to time constraints. That being said what we saw was truly brilliant and would certainly go back to visit more areas of this museum whenever I next visit New York.
American Museum of Natural History: So much to see!
Everything about the museum WAS AMAZING, definitely worth the visit! The dinosaur area alone was worth the time, and there's so much to see! Be prepared to spend a lot of hours here (we've taken 5-6 hrs), and many brilliant exhibits to see. A breathtaking journey through the history of humanity and the evolution of nature and planet earth itself.
Be sure to find the blue whale model and Titanosaur skeleton. We really had the pleasure of visiting this museum during our stay in New York.
