10 of 155 Best Attractions in Miami Beach

There was many places to see in the art deco district a definite recommendation if you are into this period of time. While walking around you can see many hotels like the national and Clevelander. Loved it! There is a massive array to look at!

The amazing art that is displayed. On the walls around the area were so amazing. The area is up and coming. So don't freak out. It's safe to walk around.

Miami has the highest concentration of Art Deco in the USA. The Art Deco District is located in Miami Beach between 5th Street and 23rd Street, along Ocean Drive, Collins Avenue and Washington Avenue. If this is your first trip to Miami, I would highly recommend doing an Art Deco Walking Tour and visiting the Art Deco Museum to learn more about the history.

Stunning buildings so glad the history is preserved, the combination of low buildings with deco architecture the ocean and palm trees is wonderful. Must experience at least once.

Great avenue to just walk around, shop, drink and people watch. Buildings all have a unique history and story behind them. Right off the beach with plenty of watering holes to quench a thirst. Usually some walking scenery to indulge in too đ

We spent a weekend in South Beach for the first time and was "blown away" by the sheer number of art deco buildings. If I remember correctly they run from 20th on Collins all the way down to 5th on Ocean Drive. Very impressed that "new" buildings have been incorporated well into the art deco look. Beautiful the way they back onto one of the cleanest beaches we have visited, Will be back.

We were blown away by the architecture. Such a cool place to visit. So much variety in the colours and decoration. An absolute delight.

I was expecting a lot more. It was interesting to see but I was not impressed. Many plain looking buildings

Great tour - so pleased we did it as it brought the place to life. Fantastic guide; good group size. The (very reasonable) fee goes to the preservation organisation.

It was well worth the time. Iâm not into art, but what we saw was amazing and well worth it. Itâs neat to see how creative people can be.

It's nice that the city has preserved these buildings for historical purposes and many looked well preserved. So it's worth walking around and taking in this unique site.

Beautiful, colorful, stunning, historical architecture located throughout Miami beach. Great area to walk around and explore.

What and incredible retro neighborhood. It's not just a few buildings, most of the city is made up of historic small buildings, which is like no other place.

The buildings are stunning and worth a visit. However they all have over priced cafes at pavement level. If you are interested in the Art Deco walk on the opposite side of the road to be the best view and avoid the people touting for business from the restaurants.

This is a favorite area to visit whenever we go to Miami Beach. The buildings are beautiful. However there was a lot of renovation going on with some of the buildings on Ocean Drive right now. If you have never been to Miami Beach this is a must see.

James was knowledgeable and interesting. We learned about the history and Art Deco architecture of South beach. Energetic vibe with lots of good tidbits of information you would never know without taking his tour on Versace, the mob, the preservationist-Barbara Baer Capitman etc. I would highly recommend James and the Art Deco historic tour in South Beach Miami

Very nice and interesting architecture. We had the privilege to visit in a oldtimer convertible car and that allowed us to see everything so well!

We had a great time bike riding over here and looking at all the old hotels. It's a different perspective from the boardwalk and we highly recommend this. Also check out the Versace mansion.

Everyone knows that the Art Deco area on Ocean drive is the icon of Miami.
The street is full of these beautiful historic hotels. Full of restaurants and night life.
Across the street from South beach and a walking distance to South Pointe Park and Lincoln Road.
Simply a must see if you are visiting Miami

Art Deco district was clean, huge police presence(?) great restaurants, enjoyed going there for dinner and biking

Interesting sites, history and people. Very mixed and great vibe. Not like anywhere I've been before. Enjoyed the different styles of art deco

Nice vibe, mellow but at the same time lively. Went to a nice rooftop along this strip, also lots of options for eating, and inexpensive. Great for people watching

We enjoyed seeing the architecture in the area. I think the city has done a great job keeping it original and historic while still modern. It was as clean as I expected. My comment while exploring the city streets was, "this place is like what would happen if New York and Los Angeles had a baby". Touristy, but fun.

Its always a pleasure to visit the Art deco distric in Miami, i went with my couple and we both enjoy the district

This is the second time I have visited the Art Deco buildings. I adore the buildings. They look amazing and the atmosphere is just exhilarating.
I cannot recommend this district highly enough. If in Florida you have to visit it.

I'd recommend doing a self-guided walking tour to make sure you see the notable and historically important art deco buildings.

Visit the many things in this area. Many things to see, specially art and architecture. 100% recommended, even if you are not an art fan, the area is very nice

Beautiful architecture, the beach is a few steps away, beautiful cars and one of the best places in Miami.

Beautiful buildings. I love the colors and how the various designs look the the bright Miami sun. The plants and flowers look beautiful and so do the parrots (though they are a little loud :) A beautiful photo backdrop

Interesting tour that you can do on your own since walking you can see everything quietly. Nice pastel buildings very good illuminated in the afternoon night. Luxury parked cars where people take pictures. Various movie scenarios so it's funny to see

What a pleasure it is to walk up ocean drive to see all the Art Deco buildings. Unfortunately the Art Deco visitors center was shut on Monday, so we couldnât go in, but the shop was open.
The pastel colours on the buildings are so picturesque. Itâs a must see when in Miami.

Great day trip - walking tour. Lots of interesting history. Stop to enjoy a beverage and people watch too. We plan to visit again.

Miami beach is famous for its art deco architecture, itâs from the 30s... In this are we can see many old buildings that still retain the art deco characteristics, but we donât find them to be very fascinating.
Itâs a nice area to look around but nothing very special here.

Unmissable place in Miami. Right in front of the beach, all hotels and gastronomic places to enjoy at any time.
Varied atmosphere, young and old, you can enjoy it in any way!

There are several types of buildings to look at in this style. Hotels, restaurants, bars and shops scattered about but keeping the same theme.

Well preserved/renovated, fasinating area with a good choise of restaurants.
Very walkable lots to please the eye.
It is on the expensive side if you eat or drink.

We stayed here in the summer and it was beautiful. Not too crowded. Tons of awesome restaurants with always a table available for my family of 5. We ate at an outside table everytime and loved the breeze and night air. We enjoyed the beach, the boardwalk, the market shops, and bike riding. We had a wonderful family trip with our 18, 16, and 10 year old children.

We walked through the District while participating in the annual Art Deco Festival. There is block after block of amazing hotels, bars and restaurants. All next to Lummus Park and the beaches.
Lots of people walking their dogs while strolling through here. The festival included exercise, music, antique cars and more.

The tour was led by Melissa and was very informative. The buildings are very beautiful and finding out the history from that era was very exciting for me.

Loved the architecture of this district, great to visit both day and evening time.
Highly recommended

Love the way they have preserved this historical architecture in this area. The buildings were mostly 3 stories, which probably seemed high at the time. But you can just imagine all the invasive sky scrapers that would be here, if this area had no preservation rules.

This is a visually dynamic and interesting area. Wonderful to walk around and take a million photographs.

Our hotel was in this area and features as much of the original old buildings and art deco designs that are now protected from being altered. We took a walking tour of the area, and because of the talents of the tour guide, we had a very entertaining and enlightening experience. Worth a visit if you are not staying in the area, which will also give a chance to visit the ocean and park and experience the main entertainment drag across the street.

Disgusting. Period. Dirty streets. Loud at every moment. Reeked of Pot. Overpriced, underwhelming food. At some point the buildings must have been worth the trip, but that day seems long gone.

Had been really looking forward to visiting here. It didnât help that the weather was grey but the buildings seemed very drab. I expected more colour.

Really worth seeing the art deco historic distict which essentially captures the feel of the real Miami of days gone by

Walk on your own, or stop into the local Art Deco Welcome Center right on Ocean Drive and 10th street where you can buy tickets for a docent guided walking tour. Because the strip is fairly concentrated the amount of walking is limited. Tour is advertised as 1.5 hours, but ours took a little over 2 hours and was fantastic. Youâll learn so much about the architectural styles and the history of Miami Beach. Highly recommended.

Being in real estate. This place brings alot of energy. This is a must see to see how Miami developed over time. The buildings themselves hold history.

After having been sold and sold again and sold again many hotels were renovated, the return optimized and there is not much left of Art Deco.

The Art Deco area is an area I was interested in visiting to see the architecture.
While you can walk along the street and see all the historic and restored Art Deco buildings it is also a busy tourist area and many of the building house busy bars with loud music. We went mid afternoon and I expect the area would look great at night lit up.

Our tour guide, James, was worth the price of the tour.
He was knowledgeable, very informative, and obviously, very experienced.
We highly recommend the Tour, as it gives you an interesting perspective on the area, its history, and its place in the area's development.

We had a glorious couple of hours on a rainy Saturday (thanks for the loan of nice umbrellas!) learning about Miami Art Deco style architecture while on an audio tour offered by the Museum of Miami Art Deco run by the Miami Design Preservation League. Easy to follow self-paced audio tour was totally worth the $25pp which also supports the league and helps insure the preservation of a style that makes Miami a cohesively and iconically beautiful place! A fun and memorable way to know more about a favorite city and international destination!!

Miami beach is the place you want to be. There is for everybody something and besides you can imagine the atmosphere of the Art Deco life from 1930s. Different generation same fun.

Not that we're that old, but really appreciate the preservation of the old hotels and the period decor!

This area is very scenic you can not miss because architecturally it is beautiful.
But I'm sorry you decided to take out a hand of driving cars and parking to put a bike with all the rambla you have available

Loved walking on the street and admiring the buildings. Once COVID is over, I plan to come back and take a tour with someone who can share the history.

stop and try differant place to eat and drink ,take time a walk the street ,just watch out for your personal items.

Historic neighborhood of Miami, dating back to the 1920s, very pleasant to walk around. Buildings in bright pastel colours.

Just mazing, Historic buildings, near beautiful beach. Nice walking area, Bars, Food, Hotels. Shopping.

We know the ART DECO HISTORICAL DISTRICT since so many years. It is amazing to see, how it changed from time to time. You feel the energy and creativity of all aspect. In shopping, in art, in Restaurants, in Hotels . I personally do prefer the former color of the Art Deco Buildings, however the light at night is great now with the white buildings too.

Art Deco Historic District is a distinctive neighborhood in Miami Beach, which blends past and modern history. It is sumptuous with its buildings with particular shapes, with the sports cars that whiz by, mixing with the older ones (from the 50s), in its neon lights that illuminate Ocean Drive at night. It is certainly one of the areas of the city where you feel safest. The beach is as far as the eye can see and is beautiful even in winter. Have you ever played GTA Vice City? walking along Ocean Drive you will have numerous deja-vus and you will feel like you are in the same location as the famous video game. UNMISSABLE if you are in this dazzling city.

Is I is a gorgeous city. The beautiful buildings from the Art Deco era create that charm and warmth. The concentration of amazing buildings in this district is impressive.

Each hotel was so unique in its own right. Very interesting and enjoyable to see both during the day and at night.

I am so glad they did not tear down these wonderful old hotels. They are so special and unique. When my family came to Miami in the 40's, my uncle built quite a few of them. It is a very special part of Miami Beach and worth seeing, even if you just take a drive to see the area. Hotels on one side the ocean on the other.

The Art Deco District is a beautiful place that I recommend visiting if you are in Miami, it is very well maintained and it was a great success for the city to have done so, respecting its architecture and its history. It is the identity of Miami Beach. If Miami had changed in name of progress its Art Deco District for impersonal skyscrapers would not be the same.

James was an excellent tour guide. Very informative and entertaining! Our whole family very much enjoyed it. Teenagers also!

Such a beautiful area. Canât get enough of the beautifully preserved Art Deco Hotels. Itâs so amazing to look at the architecture and the colours. The names are all so interesting.

The area gives you the sensation of being in the the past with good hotels and access to the ocean. Aldo you can walk to a variety of nice good restaurants.

It's a must see. Nice to walk around, lots to see on Ocean Drive but lost some of its charm. Close to the beach.

Such an amazing place to visit if you love Art Deco Architecture. So many beautiful buildings and homes from that time period. Make sure you walk down Pennsylvania Avenue, as well as Ocean Drive!

Nice to see all the old buildings being refurbished. You should even take a tour to learn about the area. I would recommend it. Even if you are from florida

What art collection uses blue sky and sidewalks as frames and stretches for 18 city blocks? You bet, the Art Deco District in South Beach, FL from Ocean Dr. to Washington Ave and 5th to 23rd. The architecture is defined by clear straight lines mixed with curves, repeating geometric patterns with dynamic light-powered accents.

fantastic art deco architecture - a must for all who like architecture & art. very divers from other places.

Hi all, needed a taxi from red roof hotel to south beach, visited miami beach, ( a lot of activity, walking, swimming etc) life guards in attendance,. Then awalk alomg the waterfront almost totally Art Deco ( beautiful buildings and many restaurants) a little warm after winter in Australia, So we were glad to discover the trolley cars ( airconditioned and free) a great way to see the district in relative comfort, the drivers are very friendly and helpful. After enjoying a great luch at a cuban restaurant, we used another bus with the intention of visiting Wynwood Walls unfortunately a thunderstorm cut short that idea, and we had to take a taxi back to the hotel. Many people recommended that we use Uber (we didn't have the ability). It turnedout to be a great day. And there's always tomorrow (our last day in Miami and it could be very busy)

We loved walking around this district and seeing the many art deco buildings which are not just limited to the front. This is a place that really lives up to expectations and a must do experience in Miami.

2 different areas by day and by night. Many hotels and restaurants in the area as well as South Beach. By day it is easy to walk around and enjoy the area. At night it changes into a crowded area with outdoor restaurants, music and the hotels are all lit up.

best place to see some of the best artist in the world and lots of famous people and beautiful people from all over the world

A sight to see at night. Love the lights and walking around. Love all the activity and things to do.

This is a great tour and our tour guide (pronounced Hoya?) was really likable and knowledgeable mixing in history, art and pop culture to keep things relevant and interesting. It's a great way to understand and appreciate the area and it's transition over time, and it's a beautiful area for walking. Even my husband enjoyed it and that surprised him because he's not into history or museums. Just the right amount of everything -time, distance and details. I would highly recommend it and I think my teens might have liked it, too but I left them at the hotel.

We did a simple Miami Beach city tour after a cruise and did a nice tour of the assorted Art Deco buildings all around South Beach. Pretty interesting! Was not aware there were so many well preserved buildings in the area and the subtle differences in the art deco style. Nice!

The Gates Hotel was wonderfulâloved the private balcony, beautiful pool, and proximity to Miami City Ballet and the Beach. The only drawback was the exorbitant daily parking fee.

OK, the facades May be worthy in architectural and historic terms but, overall, the place has been allowed to degenerate into a commercial hubbub of low quality restaurants, blaring music and ridiculously underdressed people flaunting excessive quantities of flesh to all and sundry. We were really looking forward to our visit here but ended up leaving after a couple of hours. Just couldnât work up the enthusiasm to stay any longer.

Architecture from the 1920's and 30's. Restaurants, hotels, shops, outdoor cafes, some private houses, in pastel colors, some with dark trim.

Beautiful buildings and architecture. We didn't hire a tour guide, but I think it would be more interesting to see the district with one.

Enjoyed hanging out here for a few days. Very pretty area and the Art Deco tour led by Mark was excellent and well worth it.

If you are into "the scene" this is for you. If it is about seeing the history and getting a sense of the area, then an hour walk will do the trick. Definitely not a place to stay if you want to avoid the noise of the nightlife.

I highly suggest you walk around the art district and take in all the architecture. Just beautiful, color , lights, structures

If you come to Miami you really should not leave without carving out some time to visit South Beach and see the Wonderful ArtDeco buildings. Walk down Collins Ave or Lincoln Road or Ocean Ave to see some of the best examples

Great place to take a stroll ! Fantastic bars and restaurants and the colourful buildings are just beautiful!! Definitely worth a visit

Worth a look but do not expect much. Especially is you are living in europe. It shows that this was not build to last

We toured the area and learned the basics of Art Deco classification and history. Great way to end trip.

Loved the Versace House turned into a Museum/ restaurant... The restaurants on the boardwalk side tend to be more tourist-oriented (in a negative way, that is), while if you go one street parallel you find more attractive cuisine.

Just a quick history, this whole area was destroyed by a hurricane and rebuilt in the style that was popular. Art Deco began in Paris and was the style popular when the hurricane destroyed this area.
The absolutely best way to see it all is on a segway! No walking, a guide knowing the history and you can see soo much in 2.5 hours.

Itâs hard up explain how beautiful this area of Miami is. Itâs got a bustling vibe during the day as you stroll past iconic buildings and stop to watch the world go by. By evening there is much more of a party atmosphere among the illuminated buildings. Grab food or even just a drink and sit and watch the world go by.

Was a ton of fun to see the fireworks and watch the party on New Yearâs Eve. Very interesting buildings, great parks, and nice walking pathways.

Museum was small, but nice...lots of great items from vintage womenâs outfits to info on the art deco style and history.
Gift shop next door was great with authentic vintage items for sale!

Beautiful. Takes you back to a time gone by. Beautiful hotels and restaurants. Lots of street side dining and/or drinks so you can people watch and see the supercars drive by. Biggest challenge can be find a place to park.

I came here to go to the beach and celebrate a big milestone birthday. I should have (and will in the future) done my research of the area. I was left heartbroken. Despite the pretty art deco buildings, the area is in decay and one of the tackiest tourist dumps with overpriced food, and underwhelming cuisine, loud music and touts calling you in to their establishments. Very low end tourist shops. Their 5 star reviews at restaurants are from tourists that they hand same device used to pay for food and ask for generous reviews. Inaccurate reviews so tourist beware. Walking from the Art Deco neighborhood where we were staying at 12th on Collins to South of 5th didnât feel comfortable during daylight hours, I canât imagine it later at night. No cute boutiques or interesting cafes. Just regret. If I can spare one person the same heartbreak then this review was for you. Seedy and itâs only for the beach

An amazing area of colorful buildings spread across a compact area. Buy a book or follow one of the many Tours of the area.

lots of lovely art deco buildings with lots of restaurants. unfortunately there is a lot of construction work going on at the moment so doesnt have the same appeal

A massive clean up and new hotels poppping up...cool but has lost its old world charm. Itâs pleasant to walk through and shops dott d around keep it fun..but was very quiet for Xmas in Miami..

What an amazing assembly of Art Deco buildings all in good shape and all different. Best to either read up or visit the Museum to understand the various styles out there. We absolutely loved just walking and looking at all the various buildings and identifying the art deco "markers". truly a wonderful district.

My wife and I have been going to South Beach since we met in the 80's. When we first visited it was before the trendy fashion model crowd and Miami Vice made the area popular again. In the 80's the place was on the cusp and was inhabited by older Jewish retirees and gays. Over the years it has become somewhat of a tourist trap. The photo at the top of the page says it all. The canopies and umbrellas were not part of the original art deco look. Under each canopy is a bar and restaurant. They are a way of the hotels maximizing their income in addition to renting rooms. And you get bombarded with menus in your face as you walk down the street. I usually end up crossing Ocean Drive and walking on the other side as to not get mugged by hostesses. At night the place is beautiful with the neon aglow. But with tourists come the thugs and rift raft associated. Lots of pot smoke and kids just walking around. Maybe I'm just getting old.

We stayed on Florida in November 2019, we have a very nice 4 nights staying on Miami beach / swiming, enyoing shopping, seesigthings .... , atr deco HD is the right place to stay and visit in case you stay in Miami .....

An old historical art deco district bustling. You can see all the pastel colors when exploring there and you're feeling that this is out of this world.

Art Deco is not my style. That being said a fresh coat of paint and updated furnishings could turn this run down area from looking like 3rd world latin america to a great icon of the past. There is vintage and then there is run down...

The Art Deco district is a must see when in Miami. Just like youâve seen it on TV or the movies. It doesnât look the same during the day for sure but much less crowded. At night sad to say but it gets sketchy very quickly.

Besides all if the great restaurants and shopping, if you enjoy Art Deco architecture this is a spot to see. One after another, these old buildings that have been beautifully restored are eye catching.

This place is beautiful. I really enjoyed walking down the block. It is right on ocean drive so do not go to where google maps take you (it will take you to a residential neighborhood). It can get crowded but I enjoyed it.

The art deco area of South Beach Miami is world famous. It has an amazing atmosphere and the architecture is amazing. The beach is nearby. There are lots of restaurants serving dishes frmo all over the world

Always stay in the Art Deco District. Great area to hit the beach from, enjoy dining, easy to Uber around to all of Miami from. Great hotels in area

My wife and I did the art deco walking tour this morning. Our host was James. Very seasoned professional knowledgeable interesting and a funny guy.
Very nice combination of a variety of buildings plus information about the history of Miami, South Beach, and the characters involved some nefarious in nature. Two hours long for a couple miles easy walk some stairs. Very glad we went!

Just a beautiful place to walk around and enjoy all the wonderfully restored buildings. Fab bakeries and artisan coffee and little quirky restaurants bars and cafes.

Very nice area with interesting hotels and restaurants. Street people and beggars have increased drastically and may scare some.

A must see when youâre in Miami. Right now there are a lot of renovations going on, on Ocean Drive.
Beautiful Art Deco buildings with cool 1950âs cars parked outside.
Looks just like in the brochures or on the TV

I love all the art deco buildings. The colors and architecture make for great photos. Grab a coffee and walk along them.

Just walk around and enjoy the gorgeous buildings if you're an art and/or architecture geek. The people watching also does not stink.

Great on the daytime but a must in the evening. All the lights is really changing how it looks. Recommend the evening.

The city of Miami worked hard to keep and restore these beautiful turn of the century hotels. Each one is a gem. We stayed in one that is known for the movie Scarface. The restaurants are fantastic. The music is too loud at times but thatâs expected.

If you love the Miami Art Deco colors and vibes this is the spot for you, more historical with the style but does not disappoint good eats and nightlife.

Enjoyable walk around this district. Reminds me of the old frank Sinatra , Dean Martin and rat pack movies
Many enjoyable stops

Was visiting Miami on business and have free time on Saturday so I decided to take a drive down toArt Deco Center city.Big mistake going at 1 pm on a Saturday as the traffic in the area was crazy parking non existent and it was 92 outside ,I finally paid a vallet to park my car for $20 for an hour .I guess the price to pay to visit this beautiful historic architecture .As for the rest I found it a bit disappointing and dirty to be honest but if you just go to see the fantastic Art Deco itâs worth while.
Just donât try to find parking take an Uber less stressful and not much more than paying for parking lol

The local Art Deco society saved this district from being torn down and preserving it for our pleasure. The design is originally French and introduced here when Miami Beach had to rebuild after a hurricane. You will probably have to visit the Art Deco museum or do a Miami Beach Ocean Drive walking tour to understand this unique design.

You havenât visited South Beach until youâve admired the many Art Deco facades here. It takes time but youâll be richer for it!

this area was recommended by a friend. She was right the place was full of art lovers and tourist. I art was very nice with plenty of diversity. Loved it.

We got the feeling that this whole Art Deco Historic District somewhat has been overtaken by bars/restaurants that compete each other in serving the biggest cocktails. Architecture really does not play an important role anymore. Also, there is no real info available for a self guided tour. The local museum is not able to provide this info, unless one has to take a 90 min tour (that is quite expensive).

What a fantastic area, place to be in South Beach, beautiful art deco and not only on famous Ocean Drive, just go around in all small streets, you will find so many great building, just take your time to do it, it's absolutely worthwhile

We spent a few days in a hotel on Collins Avenue. If you like beautiful architecture and have the time as we did to have a walk around this district you have a great time. The old buildings are lovely, if you ignore the BMW i8's, the Mustangs and other flashy cars this place takes you back in time. You can just imagine what it was like nearly 100 years ago. If you take the time to look you'll find some great gems like The Betsy Orb and the Betsy Poetry Rail. We loved this district.

At night when the lights come on this is a must see area of SOBE. The restaurants glitter, and the people are glamourous, or funky, or just plain fascinating.

Tents were set up along Ocean Drive for Art Deco Weekend. Parking was tough but the municipal lot had spots. The festival was 10 until 5. The usual sugary drinks, piles of rice, fried foods, corn, arepas... that travel to all the festivals. I bought a jewelry cleaner, there was nothing special screaming Art Deco or Miami. The people were colorful until dark when it became visibly sketchy.

Lovely atmosphere, beautiful architecture and great beaches, good food and friendly people everywhere, was perfect to just walk on the beach and enjoy the weather

Walk up one side and back down the other making sure to take pictures of the hotels and cars parked in front.

This a world-class destination for admiring art deco buildings. Ideally you need to do an art deco walking tour.

Great architecture. Cool location. Tons of great restaurants.
But, when we were there, there were many groups of folks that just looked like they were not there to chill.
These groups were older than college Spring Breakers, had no beach gear, hung by restaurants but were not customers, were not in shorts and flip flops like most, loud and ignorant of common curtesy, were not staying in the Districtâs hotels and did not arrive by car. We took the Trolley and buses but never saw these groups on board.
We left as I can usually smell problems before they âboil overâ. Sure enough, South Beach had Rioters that weekend. Media reported the Rioters as âSpring Breakersâ but videos showed it was those I predicted.
Miami Police can only do so much.
Always be aware of your surroundings and when you sense something is not right, exit quickly.

We walked the full length of south beach. The architecture along ocean drive especially is just amazing and wonderful that much of it has been preserved. Itâs an absolutely must see if youâre in the area, whether you like architecture or not Iâm sure youâll be impressed.

Very pleasant stroll at night with lots of interesting buildings and lights, and lots of places to enjoy a drink or meal.

We followed the free Art Deco walk found on the internet. Enjoyed the architecture and the history behind it. So pleased these hotels survived and werenât replaced by bland high rise buildings. Lots of bars and restaurants to try. For me the best part of Miami.

The Miami Design Preservation League Walking Tour makes the most sense to me. Theyâre the non-profit helping to keep the old-style Art Deco Miami alive, and keeping the new building design within the beautiful parameters of the era. I highly recommend you take this particular tour to help support the charity!
Martin gave our tour, and his knowledge and passion for the area (and era!) was obvious. We learned all sorts of things such as why many buildings stopped at 3 stories in the 1930âs, why terrazzo arrows are on the floors in some spots, why the pale pastel âMiami colorsâ arenât as old as you may think, and more! Thank you, Martin. (A volunteer!)
The buildings are beautiful here. Pop inside to see lobby areas, too. A few reviewers made comments about buildings needing a coat of paint, or needing âupdating.â Jaysus to they not understand preservation?! These beautiful 80-90 year old buildings have survived hurricanes, saltwater breezes, overzealous builders, and more over the century. See REAL Art Deco style and be amazed!
Unbeknownst to us itâs Art Deco Weekend. Bad thing: crowded. Good thing: you can walk on the street with no traffic and there was good food, excellent artists, music and more.
The walk is two hours - if youâre unsteady on your feet you may want to know there is very little opportunity to sit. Be aware! Wear a hat if youâre wary of the sun, too.
Enjoy!

If youâre in town treat yourself to a walk by these beautiful buildings. The city of Miami has done a great job keeping the area true to itâs Art Deco hematite.

Absolutely fantastic! Jan Piazzetta was our tour guide and she made the experience a memorable one for us. We were able to experience all that we had hoped for and more. Very informative and on time as promised. Highly recommend this trip

Went for Art Deco festival. All the buildings are beautiful. The area was fairly clean. Saw many policemen. Some homeless but no needles or anything that made us feel unsafe. Many hookah bars and food opportunities.

Walk around downtown, use the free rail transport, going up and down and seeing more places. It was awesome!

We visited the Art Deco area with friends on a recent cruise call to Miami. This is an area I have been wanting to see for many years, definitely a "bucket list" destination! I was not disappointed - the buildings have been beautifully restored and preserved, and are well worth seeing. My friend had printed out a self-guided walking tour from the internet which gave us a taste of the history of each building. The Art Deco museum is well worth visiting too!

Each hotel with its own Arte Deco style. Most of these hotels have recently refurbished.
An experience ; try breakfast every morning in a different hotel.

A Miami must see, the beach and the Art Deco hotels on the other side of the road. Parking in this area is expensive.

First, just stand on the east side of Ocean Drive and look across the street at the amazing Art Deco buildings. It transports you back to another time and place. Wonderful! We like to get to the area early because it's easier to park. We spend time on the beach then pick one of the many restaurants lining Ocean Drive. A brunch favorite is News Cafe which has an extensive menu and great food. The district takes on a whole new personality at night. People walking everywhere, beautiful neon lights, high energy, food of every kind. It is a great night out! Miami at its best!

We planned a visit to the Art Deco District while we were visiting the southern portion of Florida. Although parking is a premium, we managed to find a kiosk along Collins Avenue that would park your car while you walked one block over to Ocean Drive. I think the price was around $35 with a tip for 3 hours. It worked for us. We really enjoyed Beach Street checking out all the Art Deco Buildings. We managed to find a bar on the second story near one of the hotels, with a great view of the street. We had a couple of cocktails and enjoyed people-watching. It was a hoot. We wished we could see it at night when the building elevations are lit. Iâm sure it would be impressive.

I mean not much to say here but a must if you find yourself in Miami Beach- lovely Art Deco architecture full life and vibrant colours! Loved it!

One of the most iconic places to visit if you come to Miami. There are plenty of Art Deco to admire and history to reveal.

one of my favorite things to do in this city. nice smiling people lots of nice architecture and great vibes

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful .
All you could ever want is here.
Wonderful architecture . Straight out of an Agatha Christie novel . White Art Deco buildings lit up by rainbow fairy lights.
Walk the strip in complete safety . Lots of shops , bars and cafes but prices are high . Boardwalk is lit up , safe and has a high police presence . Very clean and good toilets . The only draw back is very expensive parking !!

We when to Ocean drive on a Monday night and wow it was busy, vibrant and worth a look! We just walked around and didnât stop in anywhere.

In the Art Deco District each building is a work of art. Great at night with their neon lights but also at day with their many beautiful colors.

Very cool buildings, many places to walk around & see the art deco architecture that Miami Beach is known for.

A really nice small hotel in the Art Deco district with really helpful and friendly staff. It is across the road to the beach, and also has itâs own pool. The pool is not large but is suitable for a swim. The breakfast is expensive, but other food on the menu is all reasonably priced. The rooms are fairly big and clean with fans, air conditioning. Bathrooms not large but clean and ok. The concierge at the hotel is very helpful and organised our double decker bus trip around Miami, good value for money. Hotel good value and would go back again. We have stayed there twice in total.

It's like going back in time to view and go inside some of the old art deco hotels and businesses. It's a little pricey for what you get. Be aware, most places are automatically including the tip on your bill.

Very beautiful buildings and sights loved walking around with my old friends. I do wish there was more to do than just walk!

Absolutely do this tour if visiting Miami - our Guide was brilliant! He was passionate and well informed about the history of the Art Deco buildings - a great morning!

Love visiting this part of Miami Florida. The colorful Art Deco buildings are so beautiful. Such a vibrant atmosphere.

I flew in from SoCal which has quite a bit of Art Deco in its own right, especially in and around Los Angeles, and Miami has an absolute treasure trove of architectural gems to admire! The area is also pretty clean, easily walkable and for those into the nightlife aspect, the bars/clubs are hoppin' well after dark.
Miami has a very distinct brand of Art Deco that differs from the more grandiose buildings in places like NYC (think Chrysler Building), Detroit (think Guardian Building) and LA (think Eastern Columbia Building). The beauty in these smaller structures lie in the subtle pastel colors of the facades, the sleek, aerodynamic linework, and the sheer extravagance of their neon lights at night. I highly recommend visiting during the day and night because each visit gives you a different experience. Definitely a lovely place.

We had a wander through the Art Deco District today .
Beautiful buildings and a great area to stop and have a drink and watch the world go by .
Really good for people watching to.
Plenty of Resturant , bars and places to get coffee âïž or ice cream đŠ.

Not a young kid so the loud techno after dark from every store front on Ocean dr wasnt my thing. Beautiful area, nice beaches. barkers everywhere halking wears. High prices. Nice for short trip to say Ive been there but wouldnt go back for seconds

The walk along Ocean drive and some of the other streets is interesting. There are different styles in the buildings and architecture from way back when. Colorful at night.

I hopped off a bus and just walked along Ocean Drive. The buildings were fantastic. They are now hotels, restaurants, and upscale shops. Can easily spend an afternoon here. I wish I had booked a walking tour to really get the history of them.

I wouldnât bother unless you like Art Deco which in my opinion was one of the worst architectural periods in the last century.

This was a great trip back in time. It was fun to see all the different styles of deco. It was also fun to people watch. The shops and buildings are well kept and reflect the different moods of art deco.

Well worth staying in the middle of the action. Our hotel was fantastic and the whole area is a buzz of activities. Recommended.

The Art Deco buildings in Miami are beautiful and colorful. One square mile of over 700 buildings with a nice style and worth a special visit and even a walking tour excursion. I love to sit across the street in South Beach and just admire those nice buildings; original and breathtaking. South Beach is definitely a must when in this area.

A walk down Ocean Drive, from 4th to 15th, lets you view the facades of some grand old Art Deco hotels built in the 30's and 40's. Brightly painted by day in traditional soft tones, and brightly lit by wonderful neon lights at night, it is a sight well worth the stroll!

It's a great place to see as its so well-known but really it's just a long beach road with beautiful art deco buildings. A bit tacky and full of tourists but I'm glad I saw it.

This is a super cute area! If you are into art, history and/or architecture, this is the place for you! Very picturesque also for those looking to take some great photos.

We arrived late at the hotel due to I75 traffic, but we started early the next morning. Love the culture, atmosphere of the Art Deco district.

Very beatiful houses. Lighting is bright. There are lots of very expensive restaurants near the beach. Do not recommend them specialy to tourists.

Especially if you can make the movie connections with some of these places, it is very nice to walk on Ocean drive, between the beach area and the hotels. A bit price but well worth it at least once... and some art deco is worth the detour.

Janinha Piazetta have an excellent and glamorous adventure that satisfied my desire for more art deco era history. You can tell she is passionate about Miami culture and history. Her story telling is beautiful as she paints a picture of 1930âs and on early South Beach.

Art Deco... well I was really disappointed about Ocean Drive and the Art Deco buildings. While it's worth having a quick stroll around to look at the buildings, I found it way too touristy!

Love the art deco buildings but even on a Sunday morning there was no place to park. I wanted to go to the Art Deco museum but was unable to because of parking issues.

My wife and I enjoy so much, all the building and hotel.
Very busy place ,a lot of restaurants,a so many bars
We love it

I was in awe of beautiful architecture. Make sure to take a walk up and down both Ocean Drive and Collins both during the day and at night. The Neon lights showcase different architectural features from nighttime to twilight to mid day. Many buildings on Collins are better viewed from across the street, too. Early morning is a great time to walk and take pictures before it gets busy.
If you love architecture, I highly suggest you make it to South Beach just to walk this beautiful neighborhood. I have always been a lover of architecture, but these cute boutique hotels, shops, and restaurants just took my breath away!

We explored this historic area with James from Secret Tours. It is amazing how little we knew about art deco and the history of this area. By the end of the tour we had a very different eye for understanding the design and all the hidden features that the 1930s mob used to indicate gambling and other activities in Miami Beach. I'm very happy to see an effort to restore and keep up the style for generations to come.

We learned so much about Art deco and miami. The unique architecture with various design is such a cool spot to be with lot of restaurant and cafes, delicious food. Highly recommend if you want to have a walk or ride a bicyle

This is a must do for anyone interested in Art Deco architecture - to find so many wonderful examples of all the different variations of this style in such a compact area is unprecedented. Itâs worth going during the day and also at night (when many of the buildings are illuminated, and it looks completely different). The visitor centre is also well worth a visit, and you can book tours from here (although we did our own thing).

We walked several blocks on Ocean Drive during the day and then after sunset to see all the amazing neon lighting. The following day we took the Art Deco tour which was wonderful- about 2+ hours.

Although a lot of the reason for the Aet Deco style was practical in nature, it doesn't detract from the beauty of the area which is almost like a step back in time. There's really nothing else like it. Worth seeing.

Still worth a visit. Fantastic throw-back to a better time. Get a sense of what dressed-for-the-event life was like in the glory days of Sinatra and company

The best of Miami Beach if you are interested in Architecture. You can download guides or take a guided walk. A tip is to enter some of the hotels and look at the reception. The hotels are usually more than willing to show their art deco receptions.

The Art Deco Historic District is distinctly Miami Beach. It's one of those attractions that is unique to a particular city.
The district itself is mostly along Ocean Drive running from about 5th Street to 23rd, There are something like 800 historically protected buildings (or, more accurately, their facades) painted in bright pastel colors. You have undoubtedly seen many on television and in movies.
The character of the district changes by the time of day. We were here in mid-day. If you want the neon experience, come after sunset.
The best way to see the buildings themselves is to walk across the street along the long attractive park. If you want more of the atmosphere of the crowd, walk on the building side where there are lots of bars and restaurants. It was spring break time during our visit, so there were many younger people frequenting them. We compromised in a way by walking on one side from the way down and then the other on the way up.
While we felt safe on our mid-day trip, we could not help but see the large police presence in response to some late-night incidents. They resulted in a midnight curfew, but for most visitors here to enjoy the setting that should not be an issue.
Assuming you are here for the artistic/design aspects, make sure you stop at the Wolfsonian Museum, about 2 blocks west on Washington near 10th street. It itself is a very attractive Art Deco structure, but it also hosts ever-changing displays on art and design from around 1880 to about 1950.
Stopping here for lunch or a drink is easy. We opted for outdoor seating at one of the many restaurants and enjoyed the people and car watching.
The Art Deco Historic District is a fun place to visit to soak in classic architecture and a fun ambience.

We were in town during the Art Deco festival in January (just before the Super Bowl...) Great weather, and lots to see.

We had our hotel right in the heart of this neighborhood. Suffice it to say that we surveyed it several times. The buildings are truly period and the colorful and clean facades give a lovely charm to this district.
On Ocean Avenue, still in the heart of this district, we find Gianni Versace's house, now converted into a restaurant.

The Art Deco Historic District runs along Collins Ave and is a place where can stay at the numerous hotels or book a sightseeing tour of the Everglades. There is also a youth hostel in this area for the budget minded traveler.

It was really nice to see all the older buildings restored and standing, too many parts of history are long gone.

It is a beautiful place both during the day and at night. Beautiful colors, architecture, coffee shops, bars, restaurants etc

The Art Deco district is a beautiful piece of history and fun to walk around. A must-see in South Beach. There are lots of charming hotels and restaurants. Delightful!

It was so nice to walk around and see classic hotels from the past that are still filled with visitors and that bring that old world style to a very modern city.

After a very disappointing night's stay over by the cruise port we decided to get brunch in the Art Deco Historic district before catching our boat, in hopes that our stay in Miami wouldn't be a total disappointment. I am so glad that we did. The architecture is stunning, the mood was very relaxed, and the service at the restaurants was wonderful. Very easy to walk and has excellent access to the beach.

Visited Miami beach with my son and nephew over the summer and found the Art Deco district very run down. The buildings are still nice to see but most need to be painted and cleaned up. If you have an hour to spare its worth the time to walk through the Historic District.

Great deco architecture and colors that are very unique to the area. Very interesting and enjoyable are to walk around.

This unique art deco distric is something you'll not get bored. We stayed here eight nights, and every day it looked great.

Located just to the south of South Beach, the Miami Art Deco District is composed of hundreds of different buildings with this particular architectural style. Lots of fascinating bits of architecture to admire (this includes Gianni Versace's house where he was tragically assassinated).

You can hardly see the beautiful buildings now for tacky endless Mexican restaurants, people trying to lure you in with loud music and brash exterior. These hotels used to be wonderful in the 1990s and now their exterior has been spoilt. I would not want to stay here any longer. The noise never abates and it is a relentless party mile. If that is what you want. If you want a quiet hotel space do not stay on Ocean Drive between 13th and 5th Street. Instead you might find quieter hotel stays or B&Bs towards South Point.

For a relatively young city it is hard to claim heritage value out of buildings that are less than 100 years old. However, as an ensemble of well preserved buildings South Beach Art Deco District is a success in creating the impression that time can stay still. As a visitor, you are truly transported in time and you almost can visualise characters populating the same streets at the time these buildings first opened.

You come to Miami Beach to enjoy the sun, sand and one of the most festive atmospheres. However, do not miss the opportunity to see one of the best collections Art Deco buildings in the US. Thankfully, Miami Beach protected blocks of historic, low-rise hotels to provide a fun and more importantly unique district. While so many Florida beaches have gone the way of the skyscrapers, it is great to have section that looks much like it would have nearly 100. However, this district doesn't simply exist in history, instead the uniqueness has provided the backdrop for a series of modern movies and TV shows. The architectural style itself emphasizes unique features that differentiate and promote the building through style and color.
We visited the district by combining a walk with a stop at several of the bars for a drink. In the end it was a great combination of education, art and fun. Everyone in our group loved our time spent in the district.

This is a fun place to experience the unique architecture, murals, and delicious food that Miami has to offer. Bring a camera and an appetite!

If you are in the area, a Saturday night walking around here is what you will do. Great restaurants, world class people watching, and if you look around, there is some interesting architecture.
To me, this is definitely the place to be on a Saturday night. There are endless venues for entertainment, dining, drinking, and music.

We had the half day bus tour passing by the district and learned history about the Art Deco architectural style. Itâs pretty interesting and good to know. If youâre into classic architecture then youâll like the historic style.

Art Deco historic district t is just fantastic and getting better. Most of the buildings in excellent condition and look great at night.

There are some really neat shopping destinations and beautiful architecture to admire . Plenty of eateries to duck off into as well!

A little bit beaten up, but there is food for anyone and everyone! Itâs right by the beach and more than not full of people. Beware, restaurants will try and convince you to eat at their restaurant. Only eat if the menu looks good, you will be disappointed.

they don't make them like they used to. This Art Deco preserved building are just beautiful. The colors and the style, the windows and the curves, South Beach is a unique area of Miami. Even the Post office has the Art Deco vibe to it. There are shops and restaurants all keeping the area alive and fun.

Very beautiful and interesting region in South Beach in Miami Beach. Mid-high buildings, early 20th century architecture. Very interesting place to walk day and night, with hotels, shops and restaurants, with green areas in front for cyclists and pedestrians, walking near the beaches.
Very lively and diverse area!
I recommend the visit!

Very impressive Art Deco houses - especially beautiful at night with the lights - lots of things going on - take a cruise with the car or by foot

Very nice place to go in Miami. With lot of people in the cafes and restaurants. You definitely fill the spirit wmiami

The Miami Beach Art Deco District is a fascinating and beautiful destination. It is also a tribute to the civic leaders who had the foresight to save this unique community. We took the excellent walking tour provided by the Miami Design Preservation League.

The largest collection of Aer Deco buildings in the United States. It is beautiful and offers a great opportunity to walk around or take photos.

Colorful Art Deco architectural design in downtown Miami, vibrant colors and yet soothing to the eye.

Wooooww. What a historic scenery. The colors, the architecture, the palmtrees and tropical weather. So impressive, so beautiful, so unique. Must visit and see location in Miami

Really great to see beautiful architecture and people watching. Great for walking and many restaurants and cafes you can sit in and have a nice treat and drink.

You must see this hotel, art deco at it's best. Go inside to the bar as inside it is a delight. It runs through to Collins Avenue with a huge ball connecting the two buildings.

When you hear about Art Deco you imagine something like Glazgow, Vienna or Prague. Alas! it is far from, but still nice

Clean, neat, safe, and plenty of variety. I really recommended a visit. All restaurants are literally side by side. Some with live music. I do not recommended Margarita Restaurant. Staff were rude, rolling eyes, and made sure that we were not welcomed.

Really cool historic street to walk down and see the art deco buildings lining the street, across from the water.

You must see these spectacular Art Deco buildings at night when they are lit up in various colors. During the day is nice but the night time is the best to view this.

Such a fun experience to walk through this area to observe both the beautiful architecture and the stunning ocean scenery.

It is a fantastic place to be ! We've enjoyed the walking through the street. It is very difficult to select a place to eat. Variety of foods, deserts, drinks. We loved the cocktails very much :-) Worths to be at least once. There are many car parks which are very well organised cost 5-7 dolars for a few hours.

Overhyped underwhelming fine if youâre in the area just walk by. Enjoy the crowds and the people watching

Hopefully the people investing in this area will find some support as the architecture is worth the effort.
However, the whole area is a bit run down and tacky, and needs transforming as a whole to make the visit worthwhile.

A unique neighborhood, well worth preserving. Especially good in the evening when all the neon and pastal lights are lighting up each unique property.

Very knowledgeable and extremely friendly and caring. Julie made sure we were all feeling good and kept us in the shade when possible.
I learned lots of great info and got to see inside some awesome historic hotels.

What an interesting tour! We learned so much about Art Deco and Miami Beach. James was absolutely an amazing tour guide. My advice would be to take some water with you thoughâŠMiami Beach is HOT in July.

This area is so interesting. The buildings were amazing. If you like a tour they are limited on space and time

I've lived in Miami for 15 years and the Art Deco District is one of my all-time favorite places in the whole world. A combination of the pastel hues, perfectly trimmed palms, and the carefree people.... it just gets to me. My happy place!!
Be sure to check out Meridian Avenue. The cutest!!
Sometimes I notice something that I've never noticed before (the detail on these buildings is just incredible.) That's my favorite.
#ArtDecoNChill

The guide know their stuff and it is only 2.5 hours. You will learn about the history and the architecture. Really enjoyed.

The Art Deco district features some of the finest Art Deco architecture in America. Built at a time when aesthetic mattered, thankfully most building have been preserved. Some greats inns and restaurants (and some very tacky tourist shops) make these fine buildings worth visiting.

The Art Deco area of Miami Beach is truly a step back in time. Iconic structures from the 1930âs and 1940âs stretch down the ocean as far as the eye can see and then some.
Bright lights and bold colors invite you into a hotel, restaurant or night club. Even the post office building is of this architecture.
A walk or a drive down Collins Avenue offers shops, cafĂ©s, and a little touch of history. Several locations have been movie sets and you never know who youâll run into.

Great area! We always felt safe walking around and everything was very clean! I would definitely recommend finding a hotel in this area when staying in Miami!

We decided to do our own walking tour of this area....but we had no idea how many interesting art deco buildings there are....it ended up being a very long walk, with lots of photos taken and a very enjoyable thing to do! The people watching was very interesting too :))

Long time I wanted to wander on ocean drive. I now did it. I love those 2-3 story art deco buildings, a real pleasure to look at them during the day and at night.
Now I guess more and more weirdos are hanging out around, which spoils a bit the experience. Too much show off, revving engines, almost nude women, etc... (Maybe I'm too old...lol) Everyone will have it's own opinion....
Don't forget plenty of art deco buildings are also on Collins Ave.

We wandered around the Art Deco District on Christmas Day, so we couldnât get the official tour. If you look online though, you can find pretty good information about these beautiful buildings. Definitely a great way to spend the morning in South Beach!

Really enjoyed walking round this area where the buildings are gorgeous and mostly well preserved especially at nighttime where the lighting is well used to maximise this distinctive look. My only issue with the area, Ocean drive, is the great looking bars really do take advantage with the prices they charge, maybe best to enjoy the views then head back uptown to actually eat.

Nothing super spectacular, but it was nice to have the art in one area. Buildings are cool, and it is nice to walk around

The Art Deco Historic District in Miami is a must to see. It is so cool to walk and drive along the streets to see these amazing buildings!

Walking tour with online stop guide is the way to go if you just want to look at the architecture of this section of Miami Beach. Interesting points of when these building were built. Sure hope they don't tear many of them down as some stories have said recently.

You shouldn't need a reason to visit Miami other that it being Miami. The architecture is fantastic, beach beautiful and a really good vibe. Felt very safe and found some great places to relax. Always worth a trip to the Bay to see the Miami Heat and when you can get a seat for $25 what's not to like. That the city bus is free around the beaches and shops is great and I'd recommend using the airport bus as its only a couple of dollars.
People were friendly and with a trip to the Everglades and the alligators within an hour from the City this the part of Florida has something for everyone.

I loved walking around and seeing all the gorgeous buildings with their unique designs and vibrant colors. It really felt like stepping back in time. I took so many pictures because the architecture is just amazing. If you're ever in the area, I definitely recommend taking a stroll through

... Just like Oceans drive... To avoid...it is starting to BE decadent... Ugly People all around you... Noisy cafes... Traffic... The buildings are there but they deserve a better treatment... A lost glamour!

Must do whilst in Miami a very enjoyable wander around the Art Deco area of South Beach. Well done Miami preserving this truly unique areađđŒhistory and fabulous restoration around every corner.

We walked around the area and admired the Art Deco hotels with their colorful lights and paint. As expected the place was full of tourists which made getting around extremely difficult. On top of that, there was a festival being held and the police had blocked off multiple streets.

Exploring the Art Deco Historic District in Miami was a captivating journey into the cityâs architectural and cultural heritage. The districtâs iconic pastel-colored buildings and intricate designs provided a glimpse into the glamour of the 1930s and 1940s. Walking along Ocean Drive and Collins Avenue was like stepping back in time, with each building telling a story of Art Deco elegance. Guided tours of the district allowed me to appreciate its history and architectural details, from the neon signs to the decorative motifs. The dedication to preserving the cultural heritage of the district was evident throughout. The Art Deco Historic District is a must-visit for architecture enthusiasts, history buffs, and anyone seeking to explore Miamiâs unique blend of past and present.

This area has declined so far since I last went here 8 years ago. As an architect I love the colorful art deco architecture and think this used to be the one of the most beautiful strips of buildings in the world.
No longer.
The buildings are still there but the whole area felt dangerous and run down. All the restaurants and cafes were either closed or of the low-quality "tourist trap" variety you see in every major city. The only stores left are generic surf-shop souvenir crap shops. No local vendors or flavor whatsoever. Gangs of 20-somethings were just wandering the street, mostly smoking, blasting loud music, or harassing women. Nothing to do and nowhere to go.
Ocean Drive was closed and many restaurants spilled into the street, which was good and I hope stays this way after COVID ends. But unless there's a serious concentrated effort to improve it by the city I won't be going back. No amount of beautiful architecture can get me to go back there the way it is now.

this area of Miami is one of my faves Lots of cool peeps hanging and chillin and lotsa sweet rides being shown off by all the car buffs. It is in a lot of ways like going back in time. Way cool

Great walking tour - starting in the interesting Art Deco museum and taking in some fabulous landmarks . Well worth a trip

This is the most hip happening place every night of the week.
Shops are open until 10pm.
Lots of restaurants/ cafes are 24/7
The music is loud and the party atmosphere electric.
Every food place will automatically add the gratitudes. So check you bill before automatically adding a tip.

Take an art deco walking tour around South Beach - very informative and entertaining. Contact Viator who then schedules local tour guides. Ours, Hoji, was wonderful.

The Art Deco District along Collins Ave. has some interesting building styles that you will not see in most cities. These building were preserved and rehabilitated by a group of Miami people who felt that this style was worth saving from the wrecking ball. We strolled almost the entire district along Collins Ave. and greatly enjoyed the scenery. Everyone should take the time to enjoy this part of Miami Beach.

What a fun walk. We went through the Art Deco District during the mid day and found the area to be safe and friendly. There were certainly a lot of people, but I can imagine that there are more there during the night time. The buildings are very impressive and certainly each have their own life and vibe. It took about 30 minutes to walk the main strip. With the pandemic we didn't jump into each of the hotels, but I can imagine the insides also had some cool things to see. If I was to do this again I would no doubt take a tour so I can get more information.

This is a must do in Miami. So many great examples of art deco architecture in a small area. Worth doing both day and night.

Cool walking area with interesting architecture and history! Day time and night walk both are relaxing and picture worthy.

The buildings were a lot of fun to look at. However, at every turn there was somebody asking you if you wanted a drink or to eat. The menus did not look very good and the food and drinks were very over priced. If you are going to walk the area, walk across the street and enjoy the architecture without being harassed by restaurant employees. I would go back, knowing What I learned and would have a much more enjoyable time.

The Art Deco District has a unique appealing only found in this part of Miami. The streets and buildings around are very well maintained and there are plenty of restaurants and shops there so you can keep your self entertained. The atmosphere in this place varies depending of the time of the day so you may want to stick around to find out what vibe suits you better.

If you're into architecture and history, the Art Deco Tour is amazing! Lots of tidbits about the area and great stories of what South Beach used to be years ago!

The town is definitely beautiful with its old but remodeled buildings. It is nice to take a Walt in the art decor district

The historic district is a great way to immerse yourself in long standing Art Deco at its best. Wand through in the late afternoon or evening as the buildings are lite up for a different perspective on this great area.

Unfortunately our time to explore this area was limited. Expect to park far away and walk a lot. Love the architecture. Go to the visitors center to get a map of historic buildings.

I was not comfortable hanging out and walking this strip. It is a shame because the building were beautiful. Ive never seen So many art deco buildings in a concentrated space- Went on for bocks and blocks. It is a shame that the area is over taken by unruly padtiers, smoking weed and being obnoxious. We did not enjoy walking these streets at night, nor did we
feel safe.

This is a fun area to walk along at night and see all the art deco buildings and old cars parked outside. It felt reasonably safe in the early evening and there are lots of restaurants and bars. During the day the beach is across the road.

We first went here at night, enjoying all the restaurants, bars and general activity as we walked up and down for hours. All the lights lit up the buildings at night. During the day it was at least as much fun & maybe even more.

We stopped at the visitors center at 11th and Ocean drive. You have 2 options. One is a walking tour with a guide for $30 and the other is a self guided tour with audio for $25 (seniors $20). We opted for the self guided. The tour audio was excellent. Be very careful to follow their instructions at the center. One of our group hit a wrong button and had to share earpiece for half the tour. Otherwise took about 1 hour 15 minutes and was extremely interesting and informative. Do early, it gets hot even in April. Definitely gives insight into this unique slice of Americana. Do the museum afterwards. Very informative.

Miami is a fun and colorful and has art deco history that makes it unique. Take a walk or bike tour. Juxataposed with new construction it makes you appreciate the way things were in the past.

We took a tour of the Art Deco District. It was fun and informative. It was a hot day and we stepped into a few locations to see some nice art work inside the buildings. Worth doing.

The place with a difference - plenty of art and enthusiastic People enjoying it. The Restaurants have truly authentic cuisine and friendly Service - Prices very reasonable. A fun night out from the beach.

travelling with kids, its very hard, they don't understand why we are slow, looking at those buildings.and of course on Saturday it was busy and crowded

Beautiful buildings. Just a warning that liquor stores close ridiculously early here, like 7 pm. So that bottle of wine you were going to pick up? Think again plus Miami Beach automatically charges 20% gratuity, of which I think 15% of true gratuity, so beware double tipping.

The iconic Art Deco district is something Miami Beach is most recognazible and famous for. Many historic restaurants, hotels, private houses, etc are built in this popular achitecture style from last century 20's and 30's.
They're mostly along the legendary Ocean Dr., but can be also found on Collins and Washington Avenues, as well scattered in other parts.
During the day Florida sun shines on their white washed facades with pastel colors decorations. At night many neon lights and lines illuminate them, streets are full of people and is very live. Therefore I recommend visitng both, day and night.
Prices in the restaurants along are slightly higher, but bearable so I'd also recommend visiting at least one according to your liking.
You'll encounter all kinds of people here, many ordinary, but also a lot of strange, extravagant, oddly dressed,....but all very interesting.
Also be prepared to see a car on the street you haven't seen in a best and newest car show you've visited, and contrary to that a vintage restored car, so there's no way to be boring here.

Covering many of the popular areas of South Beach the buildings, original, renovated and new are quite stunning.
It's well worth a walk around the area and enjoy people living in what is almost a real life museum.

Nothing like this district to witness the consistent growth of artists- new and old. Some pictures are priceless, others are worth taking a risk. Sparkling galleries mixed with the tradition. Birthplace of the Art Deco Period. This area is one of a kind.

Great beach, friendly people, music and excellent international cuisine. The Art Deco district is worth walking. We parked at the botanical garden for free and took our time walking to the beach then into the Art Deco district.

Lots of photos, immense heat. A very interesting city. Museums, incredible, Perez Musem and others. The beaches of Miami beach are unbeatable

Beautiful buildings to admire at any given time!!! Utterly mesmerising at evenings with all the extravagant neon lights!!! A must visit while in Miami!!!

The sheer amount of fabulous, ice cream coloured buildings in the ocean liner style is staggering here.
It is worth doing the walking tour that goes from the welcome centre but it is nice to pop in and out of the hotels on your own for a drink or a cool down.
At night all lit up it is spectacular and an amazing contrast to the nearby tall modern buildings.
But glorious to see any time!

I didn't think this was that great. There are some cool buildings, although I think many are bland. Good for a tour, lots of walking otherwise. Go by on the way to the beach. Old buildings

The Miami Beach Architectural District is a U.S. historic district located in the South Beach neighborhood of Miami Beach, Florida. The Art Deco district is a beautiful area in Miami beach and the area famous in Italian fashion designer Gianni Versace resided, in a mansion on Ocean Drive. There are cool resturants in this area.fun to walk around.must-see in South Beach. There are lots of activites.

Must see while in Miami. Epressive from the artists eye. Neighborhood safe
Good area full of life. Food & music available.

We stayed on the south beach I liked seeing all the Art Deco buildings, We were told to go on the free bus to see the city BIG mistake itâs not a sightseeing bus (it does get you back to where you got on) but you will travel all round the streets with locals going about their business, thatâs an hour out of my life I wonât get back.
The bars and restaurants are very expensive take plenty of money for instance 1 US pint of Guinness and a small strawberry daiquiri was $27 but your on holiday and what the heck

We learned a lot about the art deco architecture in Miami Beach. Our Brazilian Italian tour guide Janine was passionate and enthusiastic which made the tour five stars.

If you are visiting Miami Beach you have to check out this area. It is very unique and gives a nice historical perspective with its mix of old and new. There is a certain creative energy here with art, food, and music. Next time we will do a walking tour since there is a lot to discover and a knowledgeable guide would be helpful.

Walking through the art deco district always is a pleasure. Thanks to all who have worked hard to preserve it. I strongly recommend taking a guided tour. Useful information and access to some special sites. Be sure to check out the Art Deco Center on Ocean Drive.

What can be said about the Art Deco district? Only that it is an area with beautiful houses and it is Miami's South Beach.

How is it possible that you ruin such a wonderful place within a few years. If this is America, than it's going down fast .....

Nice Art Deco buildings (hotels) to be seen walking through Ocean Drive. Stop at Miami Beach sign to take some nice photos of yourselves and at many shops along the way. We walked at noon, but I reccomend to also go there at night when the buildings are lighted up.

I didnât even know this place existed! But it does haha, it was a nice area but not nice enough to get 5*.

A pleasant place to shop, eat and wander along the beachfront . The water was warm in November and the balmy weather perfect for sitting at one of the many cafe's and enjoying a cold drink.

Buildings were lovely and unique. I would have loved to look in a few hotels, but they were all in the main area of South Beach, that I could see key card access. As you get away from the main area, where it is all going on, music, crowds, dancing, the hotels become further apart and some looked like they allow access. The wheelchair stopped us venturing further, but the walk back along the newly part constructed beach path was lovely.

It is fascinating to see the buildings in the region. Makes it much prettier. And because they are low floors, we can see more of the sky, so on sunny days, it still isn't pretty.
It's hard to say which is prettier.
It seems to be very pleasant to live in this region, especially on some less busy streets.
It's worth a walk there.

We took the walking tour and it was very good. The tour guide was well versed in all aspects of the architecture. It was very hot, but worth the effort to get the behind the sceens information about these wonderful buildings.

The Art Deco Historic District is a beautiful sight to see. My mother and I enjoyed coming here on our morning walks. The architecture is amazing! Take a walk here if in the area.

A good destination for a short stay. Great sight seeing but the plentiful spring breakers were a bit tiresome during our stay.

Took a walk on the beach then up and down Ocean drive! Lots of people out and about on a Sunday afternoon. Lots of places for a meal and a drink. Cool place to take some pictures. There is a parking garage at the north end of Ocean drive on Collins ave. Easy to get in and out of, perfect location to start your walk. Public restrooms are available at the beach patrol headquarters on 10th st.

nice place to visit a lot of nice coloured buildings. It is a joy for all the family members to enjoy.

The district successfully blends historical preservation with modern-day life, making it both a living piece of history and a lively cultural hotspot.
Art Deco at its best
If you love Art Deco this is the place for you. Building after building in Art Deco style most kept in excellent condition. A good way to see the best is to walk up either Collins Avenue or Ocean Drive and down the other, this way you'll see most of the best buildings built in this style. There are several web pages which give you the best buildings to see which is a good starting point or visit Tourist information on which also have maps and leaflets. Ocean Drive is only yards away from the beach, plenty of eateries and bars in the area.
