Must See Mansion & Grounds

By Bandit331 |

My wife and I took the self-guided mansion tour, fascinating history. The numerous gardens, Conservatory and trails around the grounds make for a full day. Before we left we ate at the Stable Cafe, good food & friendly folks. Recommend getting reservations for the tour and any restaurant you’re thinking of visiting.

You could spend all day here

By Kelli M |

We drove over an purchased tickets when we got there. We bought just the house and gardens tour that did include a wine tasting at the winery. We were there for about 4 hours and could easily have spent more time there with all the attractions included in our tickets. The house itself is something that has to be seen to be believed. The audio self paced tour is very informative and gives you a glimpse of the life of the family and the times. It is a lot of walking and small children could get bored so be prepared. But it is still a great way to spend the day. There are children's events at different times in different areas. The area near the winery has shops and restaurants.

Just love the Christmas lights!

By Barbara L |

We had amazing time going to the Biltmore Christmas lights and gardens! We enjoyed the beautiful Christmas trees, local choir singing, instrumental music playing and stories told regarding each room. We had such a wonderful night! All the staff were friendly and helpful!

OUTSTANDING PROPERTY

By SUNILDASWANEY |

An extremely well-maintained,clean and spacious property that has withstood the passage of time viz.130 years beautifully. This property was completed in 1895.
After so many it's an absolute marvel to see how well the entire estate was constructed and how well planned the entire layout of the massive interior was done.Although the entry prices were extremely expensive,it was definitely worth visiting at least once.

Hunt and Olmstead Triumph

By Otter H |

A one-and-done bucket list item for me. Pricey, but I love history and architecture and antiques, so I found the house tour interesting. It's true that the audio guide is very brief and doesn't give much information, probably in an effort to move crowds along, and it seemed most were just interested in snapping a pic of the room (even though they're online and in books) and moving on, but no one is telling you at what speed to walk. I took my time, lingered. let others pass, and got my money's worth by examining every artifact and architectural detail to my satisfaction. I agree the daytime tour is just as good as the evening tour at Christmas; we also had fires in the hearths and Christmas lights and music, but with the added bonus of seeing amazing views from every window. The gardens are "sleeping" in winter, but the conservatory was lush and amazing. Unless your main interest is eating and shopping, skip Antler Village and the winery (for which the lines are ridiculously long). Take more time to enjoy the house and grounds instead.

Biltmore at night

By Charles G |

First time at Biltmore for their Christmas display, it was lovely. Self guided tour, not rushed though. All together different at night than in the day time. Was a wonderful experience

Largest Private home in the US

By MATT BENSON |

This place is absolutely magnificent!
Largest privately owned home in the USA.
Spend the extra for the downstairs tour, well worth it!
Gardens are spectacular

Greedy

By Melanie B |

$145.00 PER PERSON !!!!
I don’t think so - and the last time I was here, end October, a number of the rooms were moved around, with step ladders and boxes everywhere decorating for the holidays !!!!

Glad we went!

By kbadventure |

It's breathtaking and so beautiful! It is expensive, but it is worth the expense if you spend the entire day there and truly enjoy all that is there. The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. Ask questions - they want to answer and share what they know. Get there early before the crowds and prepare for a relaxing day of enjoying the beauty surrounding you. Hint - wear your coat as the first floor is pretty cool as the main doors are open. You'll also want it for walking the gardens. The trolley is so easy to use, and the drivers are very knowledgeable.

A Must Go Destination!

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. Been several times and never gets old! Asheville is a wonderful little city with a ton of things to do!

A must place to visit in Asheville

By samsmary26 |

What a beautiful property. The castle is breathtaking and awe inspiring. The glass exhibit is excellent and continues into early January. Workers are friendly and helpful. Good variety of eateries at reasonable prices. The museum is interesting and worth a visit. The view from the Inn at the Biltmore at the top of a mountain is beautiful. So much to see so allow plenty of time to take it all in and enjoy!

Huge mansion

By ManningAvenger |

This was our third visit to the Biltmore and as usual it did not disappoint. The biggest house we've ever been in. Every room had something unique. The grounds were well taken care of. The views from the back of the house were great. Allow yourself around two hours to tour the whole house.

Great experience!

By Catherine M |

The home was incredible and massive. The gardens were amazing. The gift shop was great. I enjoyed taking photos in all the outdoor spaces.

Great visit in Ashville, NC

By Martina B |

We visited Asheville,NC. We stayed at the KIMPTON Hotel downtown. Best dog friendly hotel we ever staying in, great rooms and outstanding service!
Visited The Biltmore, very interesting story and nice Christmas decorations. Must visit!

Try to be nicer to your visitors

By Mark |

Disappointed in a staff member to the point, I should have rated it a one. Sometimes you try and be a gentleman, but Karen exists as a worker on the 2nd level.

I attempted to assist a worker and was rudely treated horribly by Karen. I tried to assist her when she was pushing a stroller, to open a barrier for her. I understand it was not one to cross, but to assist and be embarrassed for trying to do something nice is so aggravating for this veteran.

Over priced

By Marco |

Finally made to the Biltmore and I have to say it is beautiful. However the price of admission is absurd. $100 per adult for the basics and 135 for the " tour which is a hand held device". Family of four will run you $500. Bit of a ripoff inmy opinion.

A must-see!

By Bear |

What an amazing place! We did the Christmas Candlelight walk-thru. It's a once in a lifetime experience and highly recommended.

Better than expected!!

By Brian G |

We toured the house and garden. In touring the house, we were given an audio tour through the use of our own personalized audio piece. We loved getting the details of what we were looking at. Additionally, my wife and I spoke with your guides available in certain areas of the tour that were extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The house has an interesting history. I would love to tour the house again but even the gardens were amazing...the smells, the variety, the colors!

American opulence at a high price

By shawn |

The property is stunning and the size of the state is vast. The architecture, art, and landscaping are incredible works of beauty. I’m sure it was a great thing for the city of Asheville to have a site like this but it does feel like an example of American excess and unnecessary flaunting of wealth. The tickets are pretty high to walk through somebody else’s mansion and then they have gift shops, places to buy food, etc.

Not rich!

By Suzanne J |

I couldn’t afford the $100 per ticket. The price is outrageous and I had my heart set on this beautiful estate. Leaving Asheville disappointed.

Spectacular birthday treat

By P H |

Arranged a week trip for my birthday celebration at Biltmore Inn. Searched for a package to include room, breakfast, parking and house tour. It was exactly what I wanted and more. Checking in we learned Corner Kitchen was open in Biltmore Village and so was the parkway.
Our newly updated room was facing the mountains and overlooking Antler Village. Everything was clean, spacious and well stocked with every detail in mind.
Ice or extra towels are a phone call away.
Having a refrigerator in the room was fabulous for leftover food or cold drinks.
A shuttle is available to take you around to other Biltmore locations or there is a walking path between the Inn and Antler Village.
We highly recommend seeing the rooftop tour if you’re already familiar with the house tour and wanting more.
The conservatory and flower gardens are beautiful with the grounds walk.
We wished the Farm to Table Tour or ground tours happened Tuesday, Friday’s!!
A few special staff:
Josh White, Gerri, speedy valet guy, assistant with WD 40 for bike lock, bearded bell hop/luggage guy, fun trolley drivers, fabulous housekeeping crew on 5th floor!!
Thank you!!

Worth the cost

By Alan M |

I absolutely love visiting here. It has been several years due to COVID but the staff are still as knowledgeable as before. I do not want to change anyone opinion but I want to add that although many comments feel the cost is high, and it is not cheap. Realize that all the upkeep and maintenance of this building are offset by our admission charge. They can rework and research much of this history through our donations.

The Biltmore is open and fabulous!

By Georgine E |

This was the best getaway I have had in years! The Village Hotel was great. So comfortable , they went way out of their way to make your stay a memorable one. If you were concerned about the water, no problem, complementary bottled water was available in every room, by the elevators and lobby.
Th Estate was just beautiful, truly living up and exceeding expectations. The Chihuly exhibition super. The food exceptional, shopping, I spent too much.
I can't say enough about the hospitality of everyone. It was a such a memorable trip, I bought a season pass. I'm going back !

Ask the staff … they know everything!

By MrsPsPicks |

There are so many reasons to add this to your trip itinerary…. Here are a few:
+ All signage is spot on… it will get you where you need to go.
+ The house tour via audio device is truly fantastic. The narrators are easy to understand, and the pace is just right. The script is designed to give you plenty of time to enjoy each space before moving on. It does not feel like you’re on a tourist assembly line just being processed through.
+ We asked a Guest Services staff member for tips on where to picnic and he marked a spot on our map that offered a view we would have missed otherwise. Another gently suggested a modification to our plan for the day that really did make the day flow better.

The Chihuly glass exhibit was beautiful. It included a good interpretive video you should watch before walking through the exhibit. Staff there were eager to answer questions and offer interesting details about the exhibit.

We ate a quick and satisfying lunch at a shady table next to the food truck in Antler Hill, then ended with a wine tasting at the Winery.

We plan to return tomorrow to enjoy the gardens!

Just gorgeous!!

By Jeanne |

The house is gorgeous!! We did the audio tour and for the most part loved it. It is fairly long and you not only see where the family lived but also the recreational areas, kitchens, and servant quarters. The signage isn't very good and it's so large that it's easy to get turned around. There are a lot of people around the parking lots, though, so they were more than happy to explain how to get around. The ticket is for two days of entry so you could break it into two days. You'll have a specific time to enter for the tour and any special exhibit that might be there, but the rest is kind of on your own. It's a lot of time if you try to walk the gardens and enjoy Biltmore Village on the same day as taking the tour. I had to call to work out our specific schedule, and I would recommend doing that if you're trying to break things into two days. The person I spoke with was very knowledgeable and I'm sure anyone answering the phones can help explain the best way to break it up.

A full day

By dudoldve |

A visit to the Biltmore really is a full day of entertainment. The house tour is extensive and the house really is beautiful with craftsmanship that just doesn’t exist anymore. There is also artwork from Renoir and Monet hanging on the walls. The grounds are massive and one could spend the day just walking trails and gardens. I personally found the conservancy impressive with all the beautiful plants. The decadence is over the top and one can really get an understanding of what guests of the Biltmore experienced. The winery tasting was also done well. Glad I went early as the lines were ridiculously long when I finished.

A must while in Asheville!

By smiller324 |

I had a great experience at the Biltmore. I went in the middle of the week, and while busy, I didn't feel like I couldn't move around. The home is beautiful, inside and outside, and the staff is knowledgeable and helpful. We appreciated having a shuttle to and from the car since it rained during our visit. The ticket price is a little steep, but I think it is worth it for all that is included.

Extremely gorgeous but hard when disabled

By Julie G |

I live with multiple chronic illnesses. The biltmore house has some work to do if they want it to be more accessible for us. First off, I had to stand in line for 30 minutes in the cold in severe pain. There were other disabled people with me. There should at least be benches to sit on at the bare minimum while waiting in line or better yet a faster line for people who need to move faster. Only the first and second floor are accessible without stairs. The walkway down to the bathrooms was extremely slippery and made me nervous. All and all, I think a few small changes could make this a great place for everyone.

Christmas at the Biltmore - gorgeous as usual

By onemoreroad |

A beautiful Christmas visit to the Biltmore. Everything was simply gorgeous. Photos uploaded in this review include the two Renoir paintings displayed in the breakfast room, including that room's Christmas Tree. Young Algerian Girl and Child with an Orange were gorgeous as was the other art in the room and throughout the house.

A great site to spend the day

By Farfromhomes |

This historic landmark was a great site to visit. The audio guide makes the experience of walking through the rooms less noisy because people are listening to the audio (vs having a live docent try to be heard for each group walking into a room). Because of the self-guided audio tour, you can pace yourself to go as slow or as fast as you want through the house: you can skip listening to the commentary of a room or listening to a commentary and then walk around a room some more to ensure you see everything.

I purchased a 'length of stay' ticket since I was staying at one of the hotels on the grounds, which allowed visitors to visit the house and gardens for as many times as you wanted. So I saw the house on one day and then went back another day to walk through the gardens and front 'yard'.

Adjacent to the house is the Stable Courtyard, which sells food, beverages and souvenirs, which is convenient, if you are planning to spend the day there. The garden area also has a cafe and gift shop if you prefer to avoid the lunch time crowd at the Courtyard.

One and Done - Great Visit, But Won't Return

By Rudy B |

Once I heard about the Biltmore I've been wanting to go here for years. At least I can say I been, but probably wouldn't go back. Don't get me wrong, the Conservatory and gardens were beautiful with all the flowers, the mansion was well laid out and the exhibits/food was great, but once you do it, I can't see the need to do it again.

Always Beautiful!

By LuvinMomx3 |

This was our 3rd visit and it never fails!! Splendor and beauty always!
This particular trip was actually in March 2020! The drop box wouldn’t let me choose it.
From the home itself, to the grounds, to the winery, to the restaurants you find beauty and perfection!

Spectacular at any time of the year

By Charles G |

Been to Biltmore 5 times, it’s never been disappointing. Was there in the spring of 2022 for the Azalea garden, been there in the Fall for the Mums. The house and gardens are spectacular just about anytime. 2023 was for the Christmas display, Wow! Be sure to make reservations if you wish to eat in their restaurants and plan on spending the day there.

Just brilliant!

By Molesworth_10 |

Better than I expected- the grounds and tour through the house are amazing! The decor and artwork in the house is just mind-boggling! Love the way they have been able to maintain it all these years. Also opened my eyes to the character of a man whose vision for sustainable forestry management was decades ahead of his time. Sadly this is not reflected in many places now.

Gorgeous

By Camper400021 |

The house and gardens were gorgeous. Christmas decorations were up. Informative audioguides gave interesting background information.

Amazing property and innovative for the time

By Travelnut_10_10 |

This was one of my favorite audio tours I have been on for a long time. The property is overwhelmingly beautiful. the detail of it all shows off the finances it must have taken to build this home. The 33 guest rooms, each with it's own bathrooms, tells the story of wealth, entertainment and sheer fun it must have been to be a part of it all. Even the downstairs maids quarters and kitchens where innovative. I would have loved to work there if i couldn't be a part of the family... lol. It's worth the trip. Stay at the Biltmore Village B&B to continue to feel the like you are in the era. A bonus to it all is strolling through the well maintained and groomed gardens that takes you into green houses full of the most unusual and vibrant plants. Take a bike ride through the grounds or drive over to the village for wine tasting.

Sumptuous chateau on rolling hills.

By Claude O |

Located in Asheville N.C. Biltmore feels like a world apart with expansive grounds. The biggest private home in America, with more than 250 rooms. The front entrance opens into a formal entrance with a magnificent staircase, formal dining room, library, formal dining room, reading room, just to name a few, While the second floor is dedicated to the family Mr. and Mrs. Vanderbilt's sleeping quarters. The third floor is dedicated to the guests. All auxiliary rooms including a gym, and a swimming pool, The castle is surrounded by sprawling gardens, a pond with a boathouse, a conservatory, a winery. A couple of restaurants, and different types of accommodations, I agree with some of the reviewers that the entrance fee is steep, I am thinking that it is one of the most expensive attractions in America.

Biltmore Estate visit

Wow! Such a beautiful place! The audio tour is very informative and you can move at your own pace. The gardens are spectacular as well!! Do not miss the wine tasting at the winery- so much fun!

2024 Christmas

By Bryan P |

We visit every Christmas. Truly amazing knowing what they have been through. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. The decorations and lights were so nice. We went to 3 of the on-site restaurants. The meat loaf and collards at the social was my favorite. Except for the cherry ice cream at the creamery.

Gilded Age glory

By louisianagal |

I've been to Biltmore several times - and I find something new every time I go. This time, it was the stone turtles peeking out from the overlook across from the house. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. And, a question I asked several years ago about the location of Cornelia's nursery, now is part of the audio tour (answer: they don't know). I love the lagniappe (Touching the hashtag key gets you added tidbits about some of the rooms). It's just a beautiful house, and it's fun to see one of the last remnants of the Gilded Age in its original glory. Now for my gripe ... has the tour shrunk? I remember seeing the room where Cornelia was born on a previous tour. This time, we skirted that wing of the house. The tour felt abbreviated.

I also saw the Chihuly exhibit and greatly enjoyed that. It was like stepping into a child's wonderland of glass sculptures. Very fanciful.

Anniversary visit

By Paula Sargent-Vanasse |

Absolutely magical experience. My husband and I went to celebrate our Anniversary. And this is the first Inn we've been to where we were comfortable lounging on the couch by the fireplace. We enjoyed talking to other guests and staff members. Our room had a beautiful view of the mountains. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating. We did the candlelight walk of the home and Chihuly. What a awe-inspiring experience this was. A lot of walking so wear sneakers or comfortable shoes. I highly recommend.

Impressive mansion

By Joni P |

Beautiful grounds and one of a kind house. I was impressed by how knowledgeable every staff member was. How many pianos are in the house? 4. How old was George Washington Vanderbilt when he died? 51.
Your admission includes an audio tour that is very informative.
We paid over $30 extra per person to see the additional Dale Chihuly glass exhibit. Thought it was gorgeous, but overpriced.

Amazing, but $200 amazing?

By Chelsea B |

We are big time historical site tourists. We’ve been to many mansions, old homes, and I myself am a historical interpreter for a historical site. I spent $100 per person for access into the Biltmore estate. I understand the cost of running a site that large but for $100/person, I expect much more than an audio guide (that is more distracting than educational) and being pushed through from room to room by large groups of strangers. For that price, we should have received a docent with a group the size of maybe 20 and more information regarding the family. I feel like we walked away without any more information than I already knew about the Vanderbilts.

Yes the mansion is astounding, but is it $200 astounding for a 3 hour walk about? For that amount, I could have seen 3 historical sites in Europe.

Majestic

By Chad Bauer |

I was impressed with the size and scope of not only the mansion but the whole grounds. Mr Olmsted and Mr Hunt were genius! Reminded me somewhat of Versailles.
Excellent staff and excellent history.
It’s much more than impressive sights… it’s the history of the time ; the culture etc…

It's worth entering

By Eduardo E |

Very interesting to experience the house of the American “nobility” of the 19th century. The tour of the house is guided electronically with explanations of each room of the mansion. It is possible to visit the social area, dorms and the incredible underground area with the indoor and heated pool, bowling, gym and the entire support area of the house. The gardens are very beautiful and the view of the Blue Ridge Mountains is sensational.

There has to be a way to make this affordable

By Pannipannini |

This is our second time here since we brought an overseas guest - had to go. What happened to the entry? So crazy…yes, it takes 3000 people to run the place and they have to get paid. That makes sense…but holy cow, for a family of four on a weekend it’s like going skiing. Only the rich can afford to see this place…and it’s a national historic place. Access is everything.

Don't Leave Asheville Without a Visit to the Biltmore

By Brian K |

A quality tour of a magnificent mansion. You follow a very well done audio tour room to room and floor to floor. We took our time and spent about 90 minutes touring the house. We spent some time on the grounds/gardens as well but unfortunately the weather wasn't cooperating so we had to cut that short. We arrived at the main gate about an hour before our tour time and that worked out well as we had plenty of time to park, walk to the mansion, shop, and hit the restroom before the tour. After the tour we drove over to Antler Hill and did the free wine tasting. We waited in line for about 15 minutes... the tasting was well done and efficient...took about a half hour to try five wines from a selection of about a dozen options. Afterwards we hit the shops and also had a beverage and an appetizer at the Bistro. All in all it was a great way to spend the day and I'd highly recommend it.

Traveling with 99 yo mom in wc

By Mitzim06 |

We repeatedly were given misinformation causing increased difficulty traveling with an elderly person in a wc. I spoke to other visitors who said their website was not user friendly. A lot was unclear or just vague answers. We were often frustrated.

Meh!

By Ev T |

Pros: Beautiful grounds , drives and views. Awesome architecture. Clean.

Cons: Prices are extreme. Christmas decor - just ok. Did not meet expectations and definitely did not meet all the hype. “Nice” overall but definitely not excellent. Some traditional tree decorations but a lot seemed “tired” and personally my own house has better stuff. Lot’s of walking. Lot’s of people. Lot’s of stairs. Dim rooms with glaring lights through windows with shades half open. Crooked fake candles in sconces and obvious security cameras in plain sight (and in your photos). Limited or absent “maps” of where to go. Random empty flower pots. Scarce access to cell/internet services - forget wifi. No refreshment stations. Hikes to a bathroom. Expensive and limited cash bar / coffee bar. Overpriced cheapo made in China items in gift shops. I swear there was a xmas gnome that Walmart sells too. Would be nice to have some quality crafts from local artists. But no, it’s all mass produced commercialized junk. Seems like this is a money making machine with little thought about having quality merch or reasonably priced comfort measures for guests. Staff? um, they herd people not necessarily personable. Borderline cocky, rude.

A Biltmore Christmas

By trophywest |

The Biltmore more than lives up to it's repuation. Christmas time is a must see as they decorate the house & grounds beyond expectation. The staff is helpful & knowledgable. We came on Christmas day. The hand held tour guide allows you to go at your own pace. It's expensive but worth it to see at least once.

Gardens are stunning, skip touring the house if you dislike large lines and endless aloof tourists

By JR |

The gardens and grounds are gorgeous. There are endless paths and natural wonders to explore, which will remind you of Victorian-era films and art.

However - I cannot understate this - if you have difficulties with large crowds full of people that have zero spatial awareness, avoid going in the house at all costs. I lasted 20 minutes before I couldn’t take it anymore. I have toured many, many historical landmarks around the world and there’s something missing when it comes to being aware and courteous in shared spaces in parts of the United States.

People standing dead in the middle of doorways for several minutes listening to their audio guide, or spreading their whole family out to block entire hallways, or stopping right in front of you and staring at something without considering, for one second, stepping off to the side to observe the things they want to see so the massive lines behind them can continue to move.

It truly became so unbearable so fast that I hightailed out of the house and back into the garden.

Too much money, know $$ before you go!

By Jane P |

Went to the entrance, was $110 PER PERSON!! Why would I want to pay some rich people to ogle their rich Christmas decor that makes 1000 times more expendable income than me?? Turned around and didn’t see it - not our cup of tea!

Biltmore

By Steve B |

Beautiful home. One of the better tours we have done. The tour was over 90 mins and most of the house was viewed. Nice gardens also.

Bilkmore…..

By Ryan O |

Paid $315.66 for entry and the candlelight tour for two. Feel like we overpaid by like $250.

(1) no where on the ticket did it say when the “park” opened. We arrived at 11am. Park didn’t open til noon per the signage. Us about 60 other cars were let in at 11:30am. The traffic was backing up to the street. Not a good start…..

(2) called the Stable Cafe. Message said they were open 11am (even though park wasn’t open til noon, whatever). Stable Cafe didn’t open til 4pm.

Grounds are pretty. Bass pond. Conservatory. Gardens. Koi ponds.

Wine wasn’t very good.

The house is grand. Audio tour nice. Waaaaaaaay overpriced.

Asheville is wonderful! Surpassed expectations!

By Christine B |

The Blue Ridge Mountains and the forest area surrounding the Biltmore and Asheville were spectacular. We even saw bamboo growing in the area. The climate was incredibly comfortable, warm with gentle breezes. The food options were great. We found some of the very best biscuits ever at a small but incredibly popular restaurant called Biscuit Head in downtown Asheville. I took a dozen back home with me. We also went to a restaurant downtown called Tupelo Honey where we had the best shrimp and grits ever, the grits were Extra creamy made surprisingly with goat cheese! Yummmm! Going to go back to Asheville again for more fun, beauty, history, good food and ambiance!

Greedy …

By Sharon G |

Greed; if you bring guest after buying tickets for special event you now pay extra 60 just to go on grounds. Passholders for 12 yrs. Never going back

Never disappoints

By cheri |

I’ve been several times and this is always a wonderful trip. There are so many things to do, touring the mansion (especially for Christmas) or the estate winery, farm and gardens. It’s a perfect day trip for the whole family

Most fantastic house in America

By TMish |

The most fantastic house that I have ever seen in the United States. A Normas house, beautifully decorated for Christmas, a really good informative self audio tour. Definitely a must see house. We hope to come back in the spring when the gardens are blooming.

All very equipped and elegant

By Andrea |

the hotel is beautiful aesthetically plus there have been many films here one thing I did not like was the room and the bathroom that when I arrived was already used

Pictures Don't it Justice!

By Andy M |

Having lived in North Carolina for a long time, I'd never been to the Biltmore. The pictures and reviews really don't do it justice. You only get to tour a small part of the house, but the details and opulence of a private home are staggering. I literally gasped a couple times at the details and extravagance of some of the rooms. The restaurants and shops in the old stable were amazing as well! Would highly recommend for anyone visiting Asheville.

Romantic get away

By BobbiJo |

Biltmore is nothing short of a dream come true. It has quickly become one of my favorite places on earth. From the awestruck architectural design of the estate to the breathtaking views of the mountains and grounds; there's something for everyone at Biltmore Estates.

Stunning Experience

By HRoberts |

I have wanted to see the Biltmore for years, and it was an incredible experience.

The staff was all friendly and kind, but the star is, of course, the stunning mansion. I loved getting to see the collection of artwork and furnishings the Vanderbilts collected.

I listened to the self-guided audio tour, which was informative and a really good introduction to the history of the home's construction and use. The tour does stretch over multiple stories and there is a fair amount of walking, so wear comfortable shoed!

The grounds were also stunning. We spent about four hours there, but I could easily spending two days exploring!

Biltmore House

By Derek Santiago |

The Biltmore House was amazing and it takes 1 1/2 to2 hours to see everything. Recommend going at 3-4 pm to take pictures during the day and after visiting take pictures in the evening.

Nice place, poorly managed

By J W |

$90 to stand around and wait for shuttles? No thanks. The grounds and landscape are beautiful but I can go to a state or national Park for natural beauty for a lot less money. I was sorely disappointed with the level of service. Friendly folks as they tell you “sorry, this bus is full”. We had to wait for the 4th shuttle to get a seat on one. I have better ways to use my time. It also got contentious with fellow guests who felt they could butt ahead of me. There are so many people waiting for shuttles that crowd control is needed! Never again.

Biltmore experience 7 out of 10

By Jim |

The views are great, but most of the shops/galleries were closed. It should have had a reduced price for that .Not the full$100 for two people. We just did the house & gardens, antler hill& winery pass. Kind of felt ripped when the lady at ticket counter said all shops are open.

Not to be missed

By Jsand8217 |

Overall we loved the experience. I love historical homes, castles, and palaces and have visited several in the US and in Europe. This is definitely a favorite given how comprehensive it is. I truly loved and valued how much of the home has been restored, how many rooms and areas visitors can see, and the audio tour was very good. I really enjoyed the gardens as well. The conservatory was amazing, with many flowers and plants we had never seen before. We also enjoyed the winery which was included with our ticket. The Biltmore family history and village demonstrations in the village were interesting as well. I wish they had been more clearly advertised as we missed most of them.
We do have a couple complaints - the website was difficult to use. When buying tickets online, it kept bringing me to a page to book extras that we didn't want and would not let me just book the tour we wanted. I had to go through the process several times for it to work and may need to check that I didn't double pay. While we enjoyed the chihuly exhibit and the work is beautiful, it's a small museum and we felt it didn't warrant an extra cost or special reservation. Also, both on the web page and at the complex, it was stated to give 45 minutes to travel between areas. I'm not sure if that's how long it takes if using their provided buses, but if using your only car it's no more than 10 minutes between each area, so the accuracy would be helpful in planning.

Impressive But Crowded

By Mark E |

The Christmas candlelight tour was impressive. The audio device provided very limited information on each room. It would have been nice to have gotten a little more information on each room, but the brevity is understandable given the number of people they were running through.

A Taste of Elegance

By YASIR M |

The Biltmore Estate is a breathtaking journey into Gilded Age opulence. The stunning architecture, exquisite gardens, and rich history make it a must-visit. The winery tour is a delightful bonus, offering tastings of their fine wines. Perfect for a romantic getaway or a family adventure—truly unforgettable!

Expensive but worth it

By Jenz88 |

Incredible day and experience, there is so much to see from the house to the gardens and the winery. It is all beautiful, well maintained and many of the rooms are preserved to their near-original state…it was truly fascinating. The self-guided audio tour was like a time machine back to the gilded age.

A couple things to consider: this is an expensive outing, but there is so much to do it’s worth the $100 entry fee. Although some staff were very warm and hospitable, we encountered several who were arrogant and condescending, which took away from the experience a bit.

All things considered, the Biltmore Estate over delivered expectations.

Great vacation destination

By Curious39399840412 |

Day one we walked the grounds and went to the Antler Village area.
The walled garden was mainly just planted so there wasn't much to look at. We walked the trails around the garden and pond areas. We ended up getting g 14000 steps on my wife's Fitbit.
The pond was great. Lots of wildlife, ducks, deer, turkeys and a large flock of Canadian Geese.
The Antler Village was interesting but there were so many kids there playing games and walking around, we could barely see anything.
This was also one of the best dog friendly private destinations I've ever seen.
Second day we toured the house and did the roof/balcony tour. It was good but short. The house is about 1.5 hour tour and the roof/balcony is 1 hour.
The area on the side of the home has stores and food vendors.
No restrooms in the house, so do your business before you enter the house tour. Food is mainly sandwiches and pizza.
Antler Village has sandwiches and a sit down cook to order restaurants but if you don't have a reservation, you will wait 30 min to an hour.r
Great place to visit and see how the wealthy of the early 1900's lived.

Relaxing stroll through a beautiful house

By Wanderer38N90W |

Stopped here on return leg of trip to Outer Banks. The house was impressive. This is a self-guided tour with a radio/telephone provided to listen to details of the rooms as you pass through. Disappointed we didn't have time to fully take in all of the gardens as we were pressed for time to get to our next destination. The Biltmore also had additional tour options for gardens, etc. we opted to skip. We did see the Chihuly exhibit that is a limited time engagement and was a bit underwhelmed compared to other installments of his we have seen elsewhere.

The Big House

By Confettyhouse |

We enjoyed our visit. It wasn’t as busy as we have seen it in the past. We used the lark and ride. The drivers were very friendly. We took the 90 minute guided behind the scenes tour and learned a lot. We also did the King Tut exhibit. It was interesting. The gardens were in between seasons but there were quite a bit of roses blooming.

You will want to come again!

By Lyn |

The Biltmore was as beautiful as always, and there was Christmas caroling in the conservatory which added to the general cheer. There is so much to see that it would truly be best to walk through several times, but the hand held audio described everything and gave lots of interesting details about the family, their visitors, the staff working there, and a way of life which was reminiscent of European royalty. At one point my husband and I elected to just walk and take it all in, sans audio. It was crowded but it didn’t really matter because we just went at our own pace,
When it was over we had the most delicious pastries at their courtyard.
We have come before and we will be back again!
We also ate dinner on the property (The Bistro) and the wait staff is tremendous, and the food exceptional.

Christmas at The Biltmore

By Mrsoct62 |

Returning to The Biltmore after 13 years..
We wanted to experience the Christmas holiday at The Biltmore and it was so stunning and decorated beautifully.
We took the candlelight tour and it was so beautiful at night, I would recommend the candlelight tour.
We also stayed at The Biltmore Inn and it was a great experience staying at a 4 star hotel and I highly recommend it if you want to be treated like a queen…the employees were very personable and knowledgeable.

We had Afternoon Tea also in the dining area and it was a nice experience having
Afternoon Tea.

I highly recommend going to The Biltmore
and staying at The Biltmore Inn…we will return again soon.

Awe struck!

This was my second visit and I would go again. The Biltmore is amazing. All of the docents are very informative. The entire estate is from a time period when attention to detail was valued and achieved.

If you love history and estates, this is a MUST in the Asheville area!

By Kim S |

This was an absolutely amazing experience! I have been to estates and museums before, but this was an all-immersive stop that I was not expecting. The sheer size of the house alone had me on overload, and I did not do any of the private tours or rooftop tour! The grounds close to the house (Italian Garden, Conservatory gardens and hot house) just beautifully maintained. The attention to detail, even down in the house staff quarters was impressive.

We traveled across country to see this estate. It did not disappoint! Yes, expensive but worth it. Be sure to take the Backstairs Tour and the Roof Top Tour. Excellent information, impressive and knowledgeable guides.

Watch your watch

By Randy C |

First the positive...the Carriage House Restaurant was fantastic. Had the burger and quite frankly it's to die for. The bacon has a sugar coating that makes for a flavor beyond belief. However after our meal we had tickets to the 1 o'clock showing of Biltmore House. My wife and I were just completing the third floor when we were told we had 20 minutes to complete our tour. At no time when tickets were ordered or the beginning of our tour were we told we had till 3 PM. Quite frankly the staff were rude about it. Very disappointed, didn't get to see entire house.

Seeing this house should be on your bucket list.

By ramblindan2017 |

Hadn't been to Biltmore in almost twenty years and my travelling companion had never been. The mansion is always stunning no matter how many times you see it. When we arrived to purchase tickets the women at the ticket booth were great accept they seem to spend a little too much time explaining things and the lines backed up. They then wanted all your info. to which we started getting messages on our phone while touring the property. We were also told we couldn't go to the house for two full hours after our arrival. I guess that was on us for not booking ahead but we weren't sure what day we were going. Once arriving at the house we had to stand in a long line to get in. The antler Village consisted of a few overpriced stores which was mostly the same items they sell in the stores in Biltmore house. The winery was beautiful as was the grounds of the estate. If you are planning a trip there make sure to visit their website to get the address to put in your GPS.

Biltmore never fails to amaze and delight

By Michael H |

I had seen Biltmore in TV shows and movies for years. I finally took my son there in 2002, visited alone in 2012, and came back a week and a half ago. As a friend of mine commented, Biltmore offers not just a visit but an experience.

Built in 1895 by George Washington Vanderbilt and modeled on three royal French chateaux of the 16th century by Richard Morris Hunt, architect of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Biltmore was the largest private residence in America, with 250 rooms. The grounds were landscaped by Frederick Law Olmsted, designer of Central Park in New York; at Biltmore, Olmsted was given space to work with amounting to 15 Central Parks. Carefully planned tree planting supervised by Gifford Pinchot, the father of modern conservation, beautified the grounds and formed the foundation of the Pisgah National Forest.

All visitors may tour the house and walk the grounds. Additional "special" tours are available, including a "behind the scenes" tour that takes you up to George Vanderbilt's private tower "retreat" and out onto the roof itself; I took that tour in 2012. There is an upscale hotel on the property, a nice restaurant, a winery, and a museum of the Vanderbilt family and its life and times. Bike rentals and horseback riding are available. The estate strives to make itself not merely an "unusual old house with interesting antiques" but a 1-2 day destination for travelers, including kids.

There are no restrooms in the house itself, but a visitor complex surrounding a courtyard next to the house contains restrooms, a place to buy pizza and bottled water, an upscale café in what was once the place's stables, and a nice gift shop.

Event rentals are available, and a former colleague was married on the house's loggia about 20 years ago. Special Christmas programs make Biltmore a popular destination.

No matter how many times you have visited, and no matter how well you think you know the house, you are always discovering something that you never knew of before. On this visit, I suddenly noticed, in a corner of the Music Room, a nice display case full of 18th-century German Meissen porcelain; I am quite sure I had never seen it before.

Everything at Biltmore is first-rate; the restrooms, for instance, are spotlessly clean and well maintained. One thing I've been struck by is that every Biltmore employee that you meet has a friendly, positive attitude and quite obviously takes pride in being a part of that team. I never encountered anyone who was surly, curt, or distracted.

You can't just show up at Biltmore and expect to walk in, and it's not for budget travelers. It's best to plan your vacation schedule and expected financial outlay a few months in advance. Even making my reservation about 10 days in advance, I had almost waited too late and got a ticket for entry only at 11:15 am, whereas I would have preferred to enter a couple of hours earlier.

Biltmore visits are pricey, but for a good reason. Just look at photos of the house and grounds online and try to imagine how much it takes to operate a place like that *every day.* Biltmore doesn't receive a single dime of taxpayer money and is completely self-sustaining, through ticket sales, gift shop sales, and the like. I, for one, admire how they have made it on their own. The place is a national treasure, America's answer to Versailles.

Buy your ticket online and print your email confirmation with its bar code, to present at the gate. Follow a pleasant wooded road for a couple of miles to the parking lots, which are free. If you are able, you can walk from the parking lots another half-mile to the mansion; otherwise, a free shuttle is available. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR TICKET IN YOUR CAR, even though you have been admitted to the grounds, since it will be requested again at the mansion's front door. If you do leave it in your car, as I did, just go to the guest services window only a few feet away and give your name, and they will print you another copy.

You can buy bottled water and bring it into the house. Just inside the door, you will be given an audio guide; press the button displayed for each room for interesting and informative commentary about the room, its furnishings, and scenes from the family's life there, narrated by estate employees, including the Curator of Collections. A separate audio guide is available for kids. The audio guide was quite good, though I noticed two things. First, the Curator described the billiard room as the place where "they" went after dinner; obviously, anyone who knows anything about Victorian life knows that only the *men* went there, to smoke, while the ladies went to the drawing room and waited for the men to join them. Later, the Curator mentions the architect, Richard Morris Hunt, which she strangely pronounces "Richard Muss Heint."

Each room is a fascinating world to itself. The formal dining room, 72 feet long by 44 feet wide and 72 feet high, includes three baronial fireplaces at one end and an organ loft; taped organ music will play while guests are there. You will notice that all rooms that would otherwise be open to the sunlight have the shades drawn, which can give them a gloomy look, but that can't be helped, since constant exposure to sunlight would fade the paintings, fabrics, and wall coverings.

The library is another high point, with its 10K volumes and, a feature that always interests me, busts of 7 notables of 17th-century France high atop a book case. I knew who some of them were but could no longer see all of them clearly; the friendly docent helped me identify them. Cardinal Richelieu, of Three Musketeers fame is there; the docent said people always mistake him for Shakespeare.

Obviously, the house is too large to let visitors tour every room. I'm sure the first-floor rooms are always open, while groups of rooms on higher floors will be rotated for visitor access. In 2002, I saw the recently restored Artists' Suite, beautifully furnished and decorated guest rooms on the third floor, opened again for this visit, while in 2012, I saw the popular Tyrolean Room, with its very interesting fireplace faced with ceramic Swiss tiles.

The whole place is a wealth of elegant antique furniture, priceless tapestries, ancient sculpture, paintings by great names in art, including Sargent and Renoir, and other objects of interest, but it's more than just a large house with expensive things and spacious grounds. Biltmore presents the story of a sensitive, cultured, and intelligent young man, George Vanderbilt, who made what seems to have been a true love match with a strikingly beautiful young woman, Edith Stuyvesant Dresser, deeply adored their beautiful daughter, Cornelia, was a generous host to his many guests, was a courteous and considerate employer to his numerous staff, and was tragically taken from his family not 20 years after opening this place, from complications from an operation. His descendants caught Vanderbilt's vision of what this place was meant to be and have worked tirelessly to present it to a fascinated public for the past 90 years. I will certainly visit again.

Best Tour of Beautiful Biltmore Mansion and King Tut Exhibit

By Martha C |

This tour was excellent. Parking and shuttle service to the door of the Mansion was extremely helpful. Mobility issues made me slow but every employee was friendly and helpful. The audio tour was easy to use and best for us. We were in the mansion 2 1/2 hours.
The King Tut exhibition was so well done. Photos, artifacts, and life size replicas brought the history of King Tut to life. We also enjoyed driving through the grounds and seeing the Belgium horses and the sheep. The winery, shops and restaurants were easy to find.
Definitely a 5 Star Day!

Historical Estate

By RCMaui |

Gorgeous. The house tour was self-guided where you use a device to listen to a narrative about each room in the house. So historical and pictures are allowed to be taken, without flash. There are stairs to the upstairs rooms, but there is an elevator for those needing it. After the house tour we did some shopping in the stores. Very nice stores and a nice restaurant as well. After this we went down to the Conservatory. Lovely, with many unusual, beautiful plants and flowers. There are benches to sit and relax both inside the Conservatory and outside. The gardens are vast and so lovely. I very nice day.

A cathedral for the worship of money

By GLx |

Everyone should visit the well organised and well presented Biltmore house and garden to be amazed, astonished, impressed and fascinated AND to reflect on and consider the unattractive value-sets that lie behind its incredibly excessive over-the-top origins.

Historical elegance!

By BonnieRN |

Recommend arriving before your scheduled time to allow for the line to enter. Fascinating architecture and lots of details about the Vanderbilt family and the period in which they lived. LOTS of walking and stairs.

The chihuhly exit at biltmore is amazing

By Oliver |

The chiuhly exhibit was amazing. Chiuhly exhibits have exhibits of different glassworks. It was at the biltmore estate.

A Magnificent American Castle

By rugby007 |

The estate entrance is easy to find, and there is ample signage directing you to where you need to go, especially parking. The staff was super--helpful with shuttle and with boarding.

Lots of emphasis on security, with a metal detector at the entry point for weapons, so leave the pistol and the knife in the vehicle. Lots of helpful staff throughout the house to keep you going in the right direction and to answer questions.

We had some mobility issues, and there is a nice side "video room" for folks who can't make the stairs up to the third floor or down to the basement. There is the classic original elevator from the ground floor to the second floor, which is great. I'm sure the house is grandfathered-in in terms of ADA compliance, but it sure would be nice if there were a way to get mobility-restricted folks up to/from the third floor and down to the basement.

Biltmore, I will always love you.

By Jen L |

Overall Biltmore was excellent as always. I loved the gardens, conservatory and Chihuly exhibit. The new audio guides were informative and entertaining. Wasn’t a fan of the expensive 30 minute carriage rid though. The employees were great and horses were beautiful. Unfortunately, I’ve ridden further than that on a family farm. The only perk of the ride was getting the opportunity to take a great shot of back of house. Ride would be fine for a $5 fee.

Greedy Rip off

By Hardy van Niersen |

At $90 to $150 per person and having to come back at a later time, while the most impressive palace in France 'Versailles' charges $31 going to the top of the Eifel Tower cost $29 and the Fairytale Castle Neuschwanstein in in the German Alps Charges $18 per person. This made us feel so ripped off that we just left, anything between $30 to maximum $50 would have been acceptable to see a house and a garden. Your can go to Disney World and have tons of attractions for the same price and there rates are already high.

American mansion

By Frexinet |

Went on home tour today self guided . It took about 1.5 hours . Arrive early since crowds are less and purchase tickets on line prior to arrival.
The home is beautiful and the art work is what one would enjoy in a museum
Multiple stairs need to be taken during the tour . It was decorated for Christmas which was quite pretty

Wonderful Experience

By mickeyhc |

The home and the gardens are fantastic. The visit was made more enjoyable because the staff was extremely knowledgeable and friendly.

Stunning Christmas Experience

By Paula G |

This historic home is stunning at Christmas time!! Beautifully decorated does not even begin to describe the wonder of Christmas here. We did the candlelight house tour in the evening, the rooftop tour with a few snow flurries, the backstairs tour, and visited the conservatory and antler village. WOW!!! This experience is definitely the adult Christmas gift!!

Christmas at the Biltmore

By Jo |

Beautiful displays and music. Enjoyed the self guided tour and all the rooms that were decorated for Christmas..

Way to expensive for subpar experience

By Sandy20002 |

We went to the Biltmore back in December, and there was a kid in a full on screeching screaming tantrum for OVER 30 minutes, and it made what should have been a relaxing experience incredibly stressful. It echoed across the entire floor. The kid was old enough to know better, and the parent definitely was. The staff tried to ask the man to leave, but he refused. The tickets are EXPENSIVE for something like that to happen. Sure it’s on the parents, but I alerted staff multiple times, and we weren’t offered a partial refund or a pass for another day. I am hesitant to return. Hopefully it was a anomaly situation. But there should be something in place to only allow well-behaved children in these beautiful, but echoey buildings…

Biltmore is a must see! Alittle costly - worth it.

By D Morgan 34 |

The Biltmore is definitely a place to visit at least once in your life. I have a few suggestions and recommendations.

1). The cost for a one day ticket is way too high for a Saturday visit - $119.84 including tax. The house and garden tour did include audio and free wind tasting.

There were options to add extra tours with an extra cost. I feel like the extra tours should offer major discounts depending on how many you book. The roof tour was extra 40.00 per person and the carriage ride an extra 40.00 per person. Each additional tour booked should give back 10%, 20%, 30%, etc.

2. The included house tour with the audio was really informative and easy to bypass if boring. The roof tour was top notch! Loved it!!!!!!

3. Carriage ride was fun too and easy to get to after getting directions from guest services

You definitely want to book further 10 am time frame. Don’t come late as there is too much to see. Also parking in C, D and E are great options and taking the trolley over is best.

When you arrive at the gate to drive in and park - be warned that it will take 15 mins to reach parking. The trolley comes fast and you are at the house within 5 to 10 mins.

Lthe Biltmore needs to do a better job. Giving out free wine. Have people register in advance with DL verification so they can easily pick up the free wine. Close off that section to just 21 and older! Very disappointed - people are exhausted after walking all day. Make that environment inviting and relaxing.

Anyway, I hope this helped!

Good luck and enjoy.

Wonderful visit

By alidaylily |

We stayed in the hotel on site. There is plenty to do. Several shops an easy walk away. The house tour in the evening was better than expected. The home is beautifully decorated for the holidays. It is self guided so you can go at your own pace.
We walked the garden in the day time and even though it was November, the grounds are lovely. The mountain views are beautiful. We would love to revisit in the spring to see the gardens in bloom.

Biltmore impressive memory.

Amazing chateau with history abound. Appreciate the dedication and hard work to all who built and maintain this estate. Gardens are impressive.

NO customer service!!!

By Jim |

My family visited Biltmore in about 2000. We recently bought tickets to visit on November 12, 2025. Unfortunately we had to cancel due to medical reasons. We live in NJ and had travel reservations...
I have spent more that 4 hours on the phone trying to talk to an agent.... Nothing ... I had one call for 1.5 HOURS.
This review is about the customer service..... which, in my experience, is NONEXISTENT..... I was trying to donate the tickets to some that could use them... NO CUSTOMER SERVICE..... soooooooooooooo... please consider my experience when considering traveling there.

Overrated. Filthy Restrooms

By lw99992016 |

Overrated. Not worth the $100/ticket to deal with the crowds, the inhospitable staff in the cafe and in the house who clearly don’t want to work there. The restrooms are appallingly filthy. I couldn’t believe it for an establishment such as this. I’ve visited castles, chateaux, and manors that are better run than this at half the price. I wish I could not only get my money back but also my time back. I cannot recommend.

A beautiful estate but the admission price isn’t worth the experience

By Cindy D |

The estate is beautiful as are the grounds. The garden was breathtaking. There was a small petting zoo area which had a variety of farm animals. The kids there seemed to like it. The audio tour was nice. It was very crowded which means a lot of jostling for position to see the rooms. I didn’t like that there were workers with ladders putting up Christmas decorations. I feel you could have completed this during the hours the estate is closed. The admission fee was outrageous. It was over $300 for me and my husband and that was just for two people and the basic tour! Due to the expensive admission I cannot recommend this especially for a family. It’s a one and done for me.

Great Visit to Biltmore

By Nick R |

It was great to visit and tour the historic mansion. We parked and rode the shuttle with no wait. Lots of walking for sure. We did the 5p tour and loved it. Only issue was having to hold the audio tour speaker to your ear the whole time. My arms were both sore. Imagine being on your phone for over an hour holding it there while walking. They really need to invest in tech that is hands free or allow guest to connect their bluetooth to it. Really didn’t find the Antler Village and Winery that interesting - felt like Dollywood.

Amazing history and architecture

By SoCoWineLover |

Amazing history of the George Vanderbilt family. the home is an architectural wonder for its time. The self-guided tour with audio lets you view the home at your own pace, wile learning about the history and a glimpse into the their lives in the late 1800’s. The home and furnishings are beautifully intact.
Save a couple of hours to stroll the beautiful gardens and grounds. I have been in the spring and fall, and there is always something in full bloom.
The King Tut exhibit was a bonus. It’s a must-see if you visit before September 1st. I did not realize the Vanderbilt’s had a connection with the thumb discovery.

Magnificent

By Lagar_7 |

I loved this place! I couldn't get tickets, which was my fault. Next time I'll be getting tickets months before travel.

I couldn't get in to see the house but the gardens were magnificent! Would love to see them when they are in bloom.

A lot of walking including up and down steps. Amazing history!

Winter at Biltmore

By Malvinsty |

The house is magnificent with the Chtistmas decors and all. I hope there was a background music to add to the grand ambience.
Plenty of food choices.
I’d like to come back during warmer season to see the garden green and colorful.
Better to use the complementary shuttle during cold season.

no public restrooms once you get inside the Biltmore it's a long walk! Uber pickup is terrible. Make sure lot c info gets to you

By Functional T |

Overall this was a lovely historical site to visit however the people at the entry do not do a good job of letting you know that there are no restrooms once you get inside the Biltmore and it is quite a walk. Also if you are getting dropped off by Uber please know that you have probably .3 mi to get to the building and that getting an Uber pickup is an absolute nightmare if they don't know you need to be picked up at lot c. Also if you have the complimentary wine tasting be prepared to pay an extra $15 per person to get to the location because there's no other way to get to the location that is 7 miles away from the Biltmore estate itself

Day stop at the Biltmore in Oct

By Lisa B. |

We planned a stop at the Biltmore Estate on our way to Hilton Head SC from Ohio. It is an easy drive. In Oct the trees were beginning to show color.

We did not stay on property; however, after researching, I believe a package deal would be the best option.

The Biltmore House is absolutely amazing. The conservatory has exquisite flowers, which I’ve never seen in person before.

We also toured the winery.

I recommend arriving at 9am before the crowds arrive. We purchased our tickets online a couple months before our trip.

Great scenery, but a rip-off.

By Dream822707 |

The Estate grounds, gardens and scenery are very impressive. We've loved that in the past. The hotel experience leaves a lot to be desired. Rooms in the Village Hotel are pretty basic and spartan. They are VERY expensive (but considerably less than the Inn), and don't provide housekeeping services on a daily basis. Shuttle service around the Estate is and additional $15.00 pp/per day. OUTRAGEROUS! Food costs will knock your eyes out of socket, and quality is just so-so. We were there for the Chihuly Exhibit. While what we saw was quite good, it didn't seem worth the $250 extra to see this rather small exhibit. We love Chihuly, and what we saw was great, but it left us with a "Is that all there is?" feeling. Anyway, for about $750/night (2 night minimum for Chihuly) I don't think it was worth it.

Biltmore with the 87 year old twins

By baughjoanna |

We have visited the Biltmore during different seasons. Each visit was amazing. This time we brought our mom and her twin sister. They are 87 years old and had never visited the Biltmore. The loved it. The Chihuly glass was also amazing. Love visiting this place.

AMAZING .......put it on your bucket list
so much to see and do kid friendly we spent the whole
day there lots to do and great food to eat

Overpriced

By alisonnj |

We ended up paying $230 for 2 tickets. Our tour of the house and grounds felt it should have been maybe $50 each. If you live on the east coast, you can go to The Breakers for $32 each, which I thought was a nicer house.

The Biltmore Is An Amazing Experience

By HistoryLover2017 |

My friend and I had a wonderful time at the Biltmore exploring the mansion and grounds over two days. The first day we took the Express Shuttle around the estate and Polly, our driver, was incredibly helpful and informative. We learned so much riding around with Polly! That was why we decided to spend the first part of our first day riding the Express Shuttle. Later that day we visited the Chihuly Exhibit which was amazing and walked around the grounds and gardens for quite some time. That was enough for our first day!

The next day we had a tour of the mansion and also went to the gift shops at the former stables adjacent to the mansion. Everything was fabulous and I was most impressed by the artwork in the mansion. After our tour we went over to Antler Hill Village and had lunch at the Creamery and visited the shops and the winery there.

I can't wait to return to the Biltmore. What a treat all around!

King Tut exhibit rules!

By Dennis B |

Annual Biltmore pass-holders, we regularly enjoy visiting the estate for many reasons. However, today we added another- the way Biltmore arranged its exhibition of King Tut’s unearthing.

For me, they unearthed a new hero - Howard Carter. They had a picture of him as a young man - to me, he looked like an archetype of a real life Indiana Jones.

The exhibit spanned several rooms, doing a fine job of giving you a sense of the wonder Carter and his team felt opening to the modern world a wealth of ancient wonders. Now, they’re ours and the worlds to study and consider.

Huge Estate

By riny |

The Biltmore is a huge estate outside downtown Asheville. The house and gardens were very elaborate and impressive. They also had a special exhibit (Chihuly) while we were there - excellent.
But the crowds were very large even on a weekday - with long lines as a result.

A peak into the past

By Jason W |

Impressive building and story of how the family evolved over the years. The tour does a good job of telling all facets of the structure from the construction, maintenance of the building and people involved. The audio tour requires you to hold a phone type device to your ear in each of the rooms. Parking and riding the trolley was easy. The trolley drivers all provided interesting stories as well.

Must See Attraction

By Ukie57 |

Stunning estate and a must see when in Asheville. I had this on my bucket list, and was not disappointed. The whole experience was wonderful from the parking areas and buses to the estate, to the gardens, to the tour of the estate, and the shops and restaurants within the estate area.

I loved visiting the Biltmore Estate. I have been trying to go there for years and finally had the chance to visit the place! I loved the house, the gardens, the shops, the winery, the farm, and the Tutankhamun exhibition.

Nice to see, but is it worth it? You decide!

It’s really impressive, but is it really worth $100 to visit?? Staff was very friendly, but I’m not sure I would go back. It is something you should see provided you can afford it comfortably

Worth seeing during the holiday season

By maryhear |

The Biltmore estate is worth seeing at least once in your lifetime, especially during the Christmas season. My husband and I, along with a friend, booked tickets to specifically see the nighttime decorations. The weather was very chilly, so the shuttle bus from the parking lots to the estate was much appreciated. If we had had more time we would have come back the next day to see more of the grounds.

One note for anyone with mobility issues: There is an elevator between the first and second floors, but due to a bad knee, I skipped the third and fourth floors which required climbing stairs. The ticket prices are high, so I felt a bit of a let-down that I couldn't explore the entire mansion. Be prepared for crowds during the holiday season, but the tours are self-guided with audio guides, so you can go at your own pace.

Amazing place

By mjb1522 |

Audio tour was great. The grounds, and house tour was amazing, highly recommend. The gardens were impressive. Did a late afternoon tour and it was quieter in the house. Could easily spend a whole day doing the tour, gardens, walking trails, winery and shopping.

Another Great Biltmore Visit

By Ginger H |

Another wonderful visit to Biltmore. On this trip we focused a lot on the gardens and grounds and enjoyed some early spring blooms. Stopped off at Antler Hill Village for a great dinner at the Village Social and a visit to the winery.

very pretty mansion and grounds

By Scouternurse S |

Amazing gardens; loved the conservatory; the house is indeed a marvel: both archecturally as well as size...but I think it is way overpriced.....
There is a visit to their winery included but if you don't drink, well...((they weren't great wines in our opinion))...while we were there the first week of October , the staff were already setting up Christmas in everywhere possible; I do think seeing it set up for the holiday season itself, would be worth it(but again, it's way overpriced))...see it once in your life, I think....

Respect the Hustle - I Guess??

By Anon |

Look, I am sure this is a great thing to do for some people; but I am here to give a real opinion regarding your $155 ticket "value" (Christmas lights tour pricing).

I cannot say it is worth it at all. The grounds are beautiful, the shuttle driver that took us from lot C was awesome. He had a lot of personality, was friendly, and gave us some general information and answered our questions on the quick drive up.

The home on the outside is spectacular, it's like looking at a big hotel. It was cold outside, so no points are taken off for weather - it's the weather. It is your responsibility to dress appropriately. The house (1st floor in particular) is very cold during winter months. You need outdoor clothing, jacket etc. It was decorated VERY elegantly and beautifully for the Christmas tour. They do get a 10/10 for that.

You will get an audio guide that you have to put up to your ears like an old phone, this is continuous and clunky. For $155 they need to upgrade this system. They must find a ton of earrings! It's clunky, and not great. I expect something like this at a low grade haunted house. You paid $155, they reuse these over and over, upgrade. I would consider the headphones from the 80's an upgrade, literally. With the technology we have, this is absolutely unacceptable and I would fire someone. People have headphones, they can make an App, you can put it on your phone and play the numbered exhibit as you walk with your own headphones even. SOMEONE SHOULD BE FIRED FOR THIS. This is beyond unacceptable. Like I said, acceptable for a low grade haunted house.

With people wearing their coats and switching hands to ears, having a purse etc, over crowding (they sell too many tickets), it doesn't make for an enjoyable experience having to maneuver to hear.

I did an evening tour, so it's less crowded than the day but still over crowded. I would suspect their entire business plan is about maximizing fire code allowable capacity. This is not about enjoyment of an experience. They are not selling an experience, Disney Land sells an experience. They are selling tickets.

It's just not THAT great, the areas you get to see considering they're selling JUST HOW GRAND AND HUGE this house is - is a joke. It's not even 10%. I am beyond underwhelmed. So glad I got to see the entrance way?

This is a money making scam by the family. They still own the house, they probably hate it minus the $150+ million per year they easily net! Here you go plebs, come look at our grand estate, well, a few rooms, gasp at how grand it is (even though we aren't really showing you), spend your shekels and now bugger off. It's the Disney Land entrance fee for intellectuals without the day at the park.

I expect to see a considerable amount of the estate, the actual mansion, to not have it so over sold that I can actually enjoy what I am seeing. Instead, YOU ARE cattle. You are packed in! Come and ooodle at this ridiculous "house" which is a complete waste of space by the way. That is what I want. Not the 18 rooms, maybe that you get to see? Now, I know they can't open up the whole thing, but it is so closed off you see easily less than 10%.

No wonder the Astor family hated them. They didn't understand money, what is truly grand. They're still grifting off the American people, but this is shameless.

Now, I think boomers would love this! Don't get me wrong. But if you want your $155 to actually have some value (I do), then I expect more and they need to deliver more. You can tell they use a skeleton crew in the house and entrance etc.

Also, I did read reviews about people complaining about rude employees - I can detect what they mean. They're probably wildly underpaid and they can do the math on how much this family is grifting off this home for ticket fees and claim poverty (they love to tell you the money is gone). They just mean poverty from where the family started. So, they (the employees) get a pass. Guest services on the phone was lovely and most employees were nice. I suspect they're micromanaged, and they repeat the same "don't touch" all day long.

But this family is GRIFTING, they do the bare minimum, call? You're on hold if not for hours at least 30 min. Even Biltmore City receives tax dollars, but it benefits the family - be real.

So, if you want to see something grand and huge - just go to a huge hotel and walk around for free. It's the same thing, but probably better.

The Biltmore Was on My Bucket List

By kasey l |

The Biltmore Estate has been on my bucket list for years, but we just haven't been in the area until now when we went to visit family a couple hours away. My review may be a bit colored by the fact it was a 90 degree day in July, but we didn't know when we'd be back in the area so we went anyway. We parked in the upper lot, where it's an 8-10 minute walk to the house and gardens. They do have a shuttle lot, which in retrospect would probably have been the better choice, especially as hot as it was that day. The white shuttles are free and will drop you off and pick you up directly in front of the Vanderbilt house, with the main gardens and conservatory to the left. You can also take the gray shuttles (also free) to different areas of the estate, although I don't know how often they run and we didn't see any the entire time we were there.

We only went through the gardens closest to the house and
the gardens were beautiful - it must take so much work to maintain them! I absolutely loved the conservatory. My biggest complaint was there wasn't near enough sitting areas to rest, especially in 90 degree heat which can be exhausting. Be sure to take a water bottle with you as you will do a lot of walking! We did the audio tour of the house, which was great. I do sometimes like to do a guided tour as the guides often know little know facts, and can often make a tour quite interesting, but I didn't see an option for a guided tour unless you are a guest at one of the Biltmore Inns. I would have loved it if they had Segway tours through the outdoor areas! The Vanderbilt house was wonderful, and quite interesting. It took a small army to run the place. There is very little in the way of air conditioning in the house, but they do have fans positioned in most areas. There are also no public restrooms inside the house either. I had gotten online around 11 am (on a Monday) to buy tickets and the earliest time slot for the audio tour was 3 pm, so you may want to reserve a spot early. We felt the one day was sufficient time to see everything, unless you want to bike or ride horses, although I didn't see an option to reserve a time for horseback riding - I believe that is available, but perhaps not on very hot days? Not sure.

Overall, I didn't love it as much as I thought I would - I usually love going through gardens and old homes - but as I said earlier, the heat was just exhausting, and by the end of the day I was ready to leave.

Christmas pondering at Biltmore

By CareOhLine |

Beautiful Christmas decorations. Shoes us how the wealthy class in the early 1900s lived and the amount of famous and important guests they had and brought together in the house is amazing. I wonder what the conversations between some of the centuries greatest or at least well known and richest sounded like. The gender divide and expectations throughout the house give insight into many part of life back then. Absolutely stunning and the library is what I want in my house one day. Truly gives beauty and the beast castle. Wish more was open to the public to explore.

Candlelight tour is a rip-off

By Linloo |

The evening, candlelight tour is a rip-off! You pay the same $155 as a day tour but only have access to the grounds after 4:30 pm. It’s December, so by the time you park, there will be only be minutes of daylight, and no ability to see the greenhouse, grounds, trails and more. I’ve been 3 times in the past, so we booked the candlelight tour this time. Big waste of money! Book the daytime tour.

If you’ve already seen the house, the Candlelight Tour will disappoint.

By Dan F |

We’ve toured the home several times. Taken the backstage tour as well. This Candlelight Tour was just OK. Rooms were decorated for Christmas. Yes. But the audio tour had no mention of how Christmas would have been celebrated at Biltmore. In fact the audio tour appears to have been abbreviated…perhaps to move crowds along? Pianist playing in the Winter Garden and harpist on second floor were nice touches but Christmas music was not audible except in those two rooms. If you’ve already seen the house, the Candlelight Tour will disappoint.

Magical experience back in time

By Frances N |

Biltmore is one of my favorite places to visit. The grandiose and charm of the house and grounds make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. It’s truly a magical experience. The house is so fun to explore and the audio guide is very educational. I have visited the house and grounds several times and have never had a bad experience.

Beautiful Estate and Historic

By Alisha |

This estate is magnificent! So many things to do and see. At the time of our visit we saw the Tutenkamen Exhibit, ate ice cream at Antler Village and saw baby fatm animals, drove around to see the many free roaming animals, carriage ride, along bike paths and trails, took a trolley to the Biltmore House and toured the magnificent rooms, gardens, art, and shops. So much to do for all ages. We had a two day pass.

Buyer Beware! SUPER EXPENSIVE and NOT worth it!

By Adventures4MeToo |

We paid $200 per ticket (plus fees and taxes for a total of about $450) for the candlelight tour during the Christmas holidays -- what a rip off! Don't get me wrong; the place was decorated for the holidays in a lovely manner. There were a couple of "holiday things" - we say one performer and one boys’ choir that both performed briefly but, come on - $200 per ticket for some Christmas decorations and a tour of the mansion?? I understand that part of the fee goes to historical preservation which seems like a worthy cause but let’s not forget that this mansion is STILL owned by the Vanderbilt family – one of the wealthiest families in the US to this day. I’m not saying the experience should be free but $200 pp?? The organization should be embarrassed to charge this amount for an underwhelming experience.

And it gets stranger: I completed the customer service survey after the visit. I gave a similar negative review as written here. To their credit, I received a message back their service department asking if they could talk with me about my visit and concerns. I was impressed that they should follow up. The guy called at the agreed upon date/time and proceeded to ARGUED with me about my review!! Unbelievable – overpriced, rude service and nothing really that special to see. What a regrettable waste of money. Asheville is a super cool place – visit the town and enjoy all it has to offer and stay away from the Biltmore.

Not worth your time or $$$$$

By GoPlaces26221964358 |

Tldr: lovely landscape, but overcrowded not worth the $$$$$

Pros: The bass pond, reflecting pools and shrub walking paths were vast, gorgeous and lovely to walk through. The actual architecture of the house is unique and interesting to see in person. Also the mountain views from the balcony were stunning.

Cons: very crowded, waited about 15 in line with 50 people, despite a timed ticket entry that cost $110 per person (the cheapest ticket option, that for some reason is higher on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays)

The "self-guided" audio tour allows you to use a prerecorded audio headset and follow a one way path, seeing about 75% of the house, as some parts are under renovation and blocked off.

After touring the opulent and refined house, the visitor restrooms were located in an adjacent building and in decrepit shape, comparable to a dated sports stadium bathroom halfwy througha game- it was jarring and felt like they don't actually care about the visitor experience.

Additionally, the courtyard cafe was basic and over priced ($12 for a hot dog?) I did enjoy the coffe and cinnamon roll I got, that was $11 too, however.

Afterwards we walked the gardens and grounds- the pond and shrub walkways, and the conservatory were very pleasant and lovely- designed by Frederick Law Olmsted- I do love his work so I particularly enjoyed these, but I didn't feel that this made up for the $110 price tag.

Afterwards, we drove through to the winery and village- I was hopeful this would be at least as nice as the gardens- Nope. The winery and village are like a Vanderbilt themed worse version of Disney world. It's a cash grab around every corner.

Overall, I was not only feeling ripped off, but also disappointed that I spent most of one of my limited vacation days paying money to a family that has inherited so much wealth over more than a century to then be sold a cheap experience that is comparable to quite a few other places that charge closer to 20-30$ for a ticket.

Beautiful Candlelight Christmas experience

By TLL |

A magnificent home made more beautiful by the candlelight and Christmas trees and lights. We visited with our teen children and everyone enjoyed their step back in time to the Gilded Age. Such rich history. The library was our favorite room. The self-guided audio tour allows you to explore the house at your own pace. Conservatory is full of gorgeous plants and flowers. Wine tasting was a great experience for the adults, our teens got to have grape juice :) I recommend utilizing one of the visit itineraries - we received one specific to the Candelight Christmas via email that helped us plan our day. An extremely memorable visit and we definitely hope to return someday!

Poor medical response to lady passing out in line and busting her head open.

By Richard M |

Witnessed a lady faint waiting in line to go into the house and hit the concrete quite hard. Poor response by Biltmore staff responding to incident. One staff member happened to be walking by right after it happened, but additional help was slow to respond. When they finally responded, personnel didn’t seem to know what to do and security just stood around.
Seems like with the number of visitors they a day, the age visitors and the amount of money it cost per ticket, that they could have trained medical staff on site for incidents like this.

Amazing, Awesome, Incredible

By Delaney |

Mind blowing. There is no house on earth like the Biltmore House. Once you see this place , no other houses compare. The gardens and fountains are very cool also. A great place to take the kiddos also. The smaller ones will be bored but will enjoy the gardens and green houses. The tour is self guided unless you pay extra for the guided tour. It is very organized, and you hold a phone like device and listen to the messages about each area of the tour. Cant wait to go back with the grands.

A Historian's Paradise!

By Emma Lin |

The place was amazing during the fall season. The guided tour of the mansion was cool and if you a permanent member, you get exclusive perks and deals. Unfortunately, it's not handicapped accessible for people with disabilities or with poor vision.

Enjoyed The Biltmore with Teens

By Sarah S |

We visited in Aug 2024 with our 11 and 15 year old. We stayed at the Village hotel and it was lovely and conveniently located. My husband and son participated in the falconry experience and really enjoyed it. My kids and I took the one-hour guided bike ride and it was a great way to see some different areas of the property.

It is the main attraction of the area

By Natural1der |

The. Biltmore

This is the must see attraction when visiting Asheville.

The house is majestic and huge.

The gardens are delicately manicured

The winery and accompany shops are enjoyable.

Tips.

The garden has its own separate parking behind the house which allows easy access to see the roads garden and such. There is also a store there:

This place has no air condition. Bring bottled water.

A lot of stairs.

Hit stop on Audi recorder if not interested in room details.

Easily 90 minutes inside the house

Easily 60 minutes on the grounds

Easily 60+ minutes for the winery and the accompanied stores.

Entry to the Biltmore can be had 15 minutes early.

Busy place!

Enjoy,

Amazing

By IrishChief |

The opulence of this estate is really breathtaking and awe inspiring. You have to see it to believe it. Give yourself lots of time to get to the actual house, they suggest 30-45 minutes from the entrance. But highly recommend a visit.

Do it!!

By renee777777 |

All aspects of the Biltmore Estates are wonderful and well done! The gardens were magical - I am a plant lover and I was in heaven! The house was very over the top, as expected from the Gilded age. The station by station video information was perfect. Couldn’t believe people were just walking through without hearing the back ground!
The glass exhibit was breathtaking - smaller than I had hoped but very nice! I would do it all again in a heart beat!

Less than ideal

By NewJerseyBitsy |

We felt this was something we "should" do while in Asheville so we booked ahead for 2 tickets on a Thursday morning. Unfortunately so did 2 school trips. Being this is such an expensive and in my opinion, very overpriced experience, I don't believe large groups of school children should be visiting at the same time as other visitors. Let's face it, many of us visiting on a Thursday morning are retired folks who may have less tolerance for the noise and crowd behavior of children. We felt we either needed to lag behind or rush through to get away from the noise of these kids who seemed totally disinterested in being there. We ended up rushing through the house which was less than ideal. And others near us felt the same way! So my visit to the overpriced Biltmore is done. Will never do again.

Biltmore Beauty!

By ccmom7781 |

The house, the gardens , the history , the beauty where do you begin. This was spectacular. Well worth the overpriced tickets.

NOT worth the rip off

By Kurt B |

Why would this cost so much for my family of four to visit in March?!!? It makes NO SENSE that 4 people pay over $460 (in March...less expensive time of year) I lived in the area in the 1990s and my parents and I (3 of us paid under $100 total for a guided tour!!).
This is from an article i found online, published in 1990.
"The Behind the Scenes Tour is available to guests who have purchased a ticket to the estate, or to those who have a 12-month pass. The price of the special guided tour is $10 for ticket or pass holders and $7.50 for students ages 12 to 14. Ticket prices for visitors to Biltmore House are $18.95 for adults and $14 for students ages 12 and 14. Children 11 and under are free with a paying adult. Biltmore Estate is open to the public year-round, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day."

Rich house, good place to visit

By ivandzz |

Nice, big, rich house, good place to visit if you are willing to pay $100 per adult without taxes.
The house has a lot of rooms with beautiful interiors.

Put on sneakers and enjoy the Biltmore!

By ROC R |

Wear sneakers! The Biltmore at Christmas would put Scrooge in the Holiday Spirit. The decorations and the landscape were very appropriate for this time of the year. We did the night tour and had fun! We returned the next day and toured the gardens and other amenities.

Just keep in mind, there is a lot of walking!!

November 24,2025 visit

By Richard P |

We toured the beautiful estate yesterday to see the Christmas decorations. The inside of the house was decorated beautifully. The staff that we interacted with was exceptional and very knowledgeable about the estate. We returned for the candlelight tour of the grounds. While the lights inside were beautiful, the outside was a disappointment. We all expected there to be a lot of outside decorations. The only decorations were lights on the large tree in the center of the grounds in front of the house. Overall it was okay.

Step into the past for the day

By Kathleen S |

It is amazing to step back into the past and hear how the rich lived long ago. Loved real family photos and how they added winery. Saint Bernard stories were cute too.

Pricey but Worth It

By StigJim |

It had been years since we visited the Biltmore and we found it to be more spectacular than ever. The historic restoration efforts are amazing as is the story of the manor house and the estate. The views from the loggias are incredible.

Biltmore House

By Teresa C |

I can't say enough good things about the Biltmore. It was wonderful. I highly recommend the guided tour either daytime or night time. Holliday time or not. Small group and rooms not open to the general public. We took the guided evening Christmas tour and loved it. But be prepared for long waits for the self guided tour and possibly at the eateries located on site at the house. Reservations recommended. Lots to see and do even without touring the house. The grounds are beautiful even in late fall. Definitely comfortable clothes and shoes.

Disappointed

By Deborah A |

I have wanted to go to Biltmore House for many years, and I was finally able to visit while I was in the area on vacation. I am very disappointed to say the least. When I first arrived I had no clue where to go for my tour there was no instructions or directions as to where the tour would start. I was waiting for a trolley which passed me 3 times, after waiting 15 minutes. I finally went back inside to guest services and asked when would the next trolley arrive to take me to the house? She said they come every 15 minutes. I said I’ve been passed by 3 times. Finally, a staff member felt bad for my experience and took me to the house. The house tour was self guided which was overall a great experience. I paid for the vineyard tasting, which I was informed that the trolley does not go to the vineyard I would have to drive to it which I did not drive I took a uber and then I called a uber to pick me up only to find out that the Uber can not come to the house for picks I would have to take a trolley back to park lot C to be picked up! I was furious!

visiting Biltmore without a car

By DonnainDC |

This was a highlight of my long weekend in Asheville. We toured the house, went to the art exhibit (Chihuly)and the winery (excellent free wine tasting). We didn’t have a car so we took an Uber. It dropped us at the ticketing center where we bought $15 per person all-day passes for the Express Shuttle. It was well worth it. The distances are too far to walk. Very convenient and fast. But it only runs once an hour, leaving the ticketing center on the hour and arriving at the house at 15 past the hour. We took it to the art exhibit and to the winery. The last express shuttle leaves the winery at 4:40. We weren’t ready to leave so we bought a glass of wine on the patio and our Uber picked us up there. Super easy to get around and a very fun day.

Biltmore

By Alison B |

The staff at the Biltmore is fabulous! All of them take their jobs seriously and really enjoy telling everyone about the Vanderbilt family. Make sure you give yourself 2 days since you need to see the gardens. Go see the King Tut exhibit too while you’re here.

Stunning mansion and vast grounds!

By M and M |

So many rooms, levels and grounds/gardens to explore. Since it was November there were over 70 Christmas trees decorated throughout the house. Pass on the overpriced shops with regular goods you can get elsewhere for much cheaper, just not a receipt that says Biltmore.

Biltmore more than you can imagine!

By Travellongs2 |

The Biltmore was absolutely fabulous! More than I ever could have imagined. I’m not much on museums and admiring inherited wealth but this home is truly something to see.

Great historical country house visit

By AbsolutelyDubrovnik |

Expensive but good value. Parked near the Chihuly exhibit then 8 mins from the house. Started with the beautiful Chihuly exhibit before heading on to the house tour. Handheld tour ‘guide’ was good. House was busy but almost kept moving. Finished the afternoon with the wine tasting included in the price. Parking also included.

Think twice if handicapped!

By bob m |

I was disappointed with the visit. First off, I’m handicapped. I don’t walk well but had to walk a long ways from the handicapped parking lot to the bus shuttle pick up. They dropped us off at the bus at the end of the trip so I’m not understanding why visitors with mobility issues need to go so far to catch the shuttle when entering. Poor design for those that are handicapped.
Secondly, I was charged $70 just to go to the house. I couldn’t walk around in the house so I stayed in the refreshment/gift shop area until my party was done going through the house.
Not worth the money but this place seems to suck money outta visitors. This was not a highlight of my visit to NC. If you’re handicapped, save your time and money.

Well worth admission

By markitiki |

We were hesitant to pay the admission as it seemed expensive. However, we felt like we definitely got our money's worth- the tour (with the audio guide) was very informative and easy to follow along, and the reservations ensure the house does not get too crowded. There is also staff throughout the house available for questions. After the house, we walked the gardens which were beautiful and also took advantage of the wine tasting. The property is huge so expect to spend at least a half day!

The Wonder of Winter at Biltmore!! We have a small farm so I can appreciate all the hard work @ this huge estate! Thanks

By Emily S |

I have been to Biltmore House several times since childhood. This visit was truly enjoyable since we were there off-season. We dressed for the occasion and that made it even nicer. The guides were very pleasant and answered any questions. We enjoyed the Chihuly Exhibition and look forward to the next trip! The acreage is beautiful any time of year. I look forward to the Spring and the gardens!

Helpful tips for a smooth day!

By Margy B |

Absolutely must see! Here are some things we discovered that may help you on your own visit! 1. If you park in C or D lot, you can catch a free shuttle straight to the front of the Estate House...but if you park in Lot A there is no shuttle pickup AND you have an unpaved 8 minute uneven walk. If you prefer to walk, do Lot B since it is a shorter walk and paved and level. 2. Your ticket should include a 2nd day to return and visit only the grounds and gardens...use it! And keep in mind there is some car parking over by the garden conservatory so bypass the parking and follow the signage to the gardens. The walled garden and the interior greenhouses were astounding, and there is a small drink cart with some snacks to purchase there if needed. 3. Use the restrooms outside the House entrance before you take the house tour...there are none in the interior of the House tour. 4. Great shops and eats in the stables area to the right of the house...the milkshakes are particularly good. 5. Read everything---there is so much great information on the placards everywhere. Enjoy!

Garden Perfection

By flossem |

Another amazing visit to The Biltmore. We enjoyed a delicious lunch at The Stable Cafe with excellent service by Melinda. Melinda goes above and beyond to insure that customers have a memorable experience. Thank You.
This time we were here to tour the gardens. Flowers and trees were at spring peak and incredibly beautiful. We walked the grounds & greenhouse for several hours. The weather was perfect for enjoying a leisurely day among the colorful plantings.

Very interesting and beautiful!

By Holly B |

Tickets are expensive but it was worth it! We went as a friend group and enjoyed it! I wouldn’t take children (mine would not enjoy). They give you phone like things to carry around to listen to the history of each room. I wish we could’ve seen more rooms but all in all it was interesting seeing how they lived. They have gift shops and a sandwich/hotdog area. There is a restaurant on site but it is very expensive. We chose to eat in town.

Decorated to sparkle.

By CCL2839 |

Sweeping views, solid construction. Decorated thoughtfully and detailed in every room. We spent a little over an hour and used audio tour. The hand-held audio sets did not carry noise of any one else’s next to you. Large windows with daylight illuminating passageways lends a cheeriness to the vast structure.
The gentleman in the blue blazer at the entryway was quite pleasant. The lady in the library was attentive to any questions. Plenty of food and beverages at the outdoor cafe area.
Didn’t stop at the well- attended greenhouse.
Antler Village hires welcoming staff. Finally, staff who smile and seem glad to see you.
Our bartender John at the wine tasting was particularly considerate of our group of 6 people. We purchased 6 bottles of wine from the winery as the selection is varied Playground for the children and shops. The Vanderbilt “museum” was the most interesting part of the visit. It put human stories onto the family and the house we had viewed earlier in the day. Fun afternoon/evening but limited parking,
Honestly the extra ticket price for holiday dates is in the elaborate seasonal decor of the house.
The grounds seemed like something we would want to explore in a warmer season. Also the Inn had special activities and decorations.

Absolutely amazing experience.

By Deb Felmey |

It was everything I had hoped for and more. So much to see. The two day pass was perfect- the house tour amazing. Audio portion was spot on. The tickets are pricey - but well worth it. The Chihuly display was outstanding.... I would do it all again and I had a 9 hour drive to get there. The people who work/volunteer there are top notch and do everything to make your experience as pleasant as possible. Wear comfortable walking shoes......the gardens were spectacular!

An amazing feat! Hard to believe it was built in the late 1800's

By OBXLOKAL |

A totally larger than life experience, hard to imagine this place was built in the late 1800's. Be prepared for some walking and climbing steps, Admission is a bit costly but worth it, most especially at Christmas when it's all decorated, what a task that must be. It was quite busy, and parking lots were mostly full. Some lines at food places but the staff kept it going quickly. Definitely worth the experience!

Have to visit at least once

By Lorrie L |

Enjoyed our visit to Biltmore Estate. It's pricey but worth it. The house is massive and must be seen to believe. The grounds are gorgeous. It's a self guided tour, they give you a "phone " and you press the buttons associated with the sign in the area you are in. I ended up skipping at least half of the audio tour because it was annoying to have to hold this phone to your ear the entire time, I think something hands free would be a much better option.

Unbelievable estate

By Liz F |

Let start by telling you that my husband and I got at the Biltmore at 10am and left at 630pm!!! I was not expecting an all day experience, but honestly it really is. There is so much to see and do. We shopped at the shops at the estate and the prices were not cheap, but doable. We then went to our tour and it was very organize with the handheld audio recording. This mansion will not disappoint. The house is unbelievable!!! We then had lunch in the Stable Cafe and the food was delicious. We explored the beautiful gardens and then on to Antler Hill. We honestly ran out of time to enjoy everything there was offered. I totally recommend this estate as a must visit if you are in Asheville.

The gardens are even better than the house.

By Passenger02836789601 |

The house is grand and interesting. Frankly, I enjoyed the grounds so much more. The landscaping and plants were gorgeous even before they were in full bloom. The trails are easy to walk and extensive. This was the loveliest garden I think I've ever seen. Strongly recommend.

Beautiful!

By ArwenElf |

First time visiting at Christmas! So pretty and a very different experience than in the daytime! Gorgeous house and decor. Definitely recommend making sure you cover both upstairs and downstairs. Very expensive but a special Christmas memory. Parking (free) and walking wasn’t bad either.

Little expensive

By Debroahn D |

We came here on the last days of our honeymoon. It's a very interesting feeling to be here. We bought a 3-day ticket. You should know that it is a little expensive

Underwhelming and overpriced

By Leo N |

We visited the Biltmore Estate and gardens recently. We did not choose to stay on the property, so we purchased a day tickets to the grounds and the self guided tour of the House. At $130 plus fees per person, it was a bit steep. Also, they don’t let you enter before noon. We got the 2:30 pm timing to visit the house. We parked the car and took the shuttle to the house. Then we walked around the gardens, but due to the season and probably due to the hurricane, most of the gardens were newly seeded and were bare. The conservatory had a lovely collection of tropical plants. We headed back to the house and grabbed a bite to eat while waiting for out time to enter the house. Most of the stores were closed and they open at 4pm. We entered the house at 2:30 and walked around the self guided tour. It is nicely preserved inside and outside. Once the tour was done, we had to take the shuttle back to the parking lot to drive to Antlers Village for the wine tasting. There are shuttles that take property overnight guests to the winery, but it is not available for visitors. Go figure…
Once e we got to Antlers Village, e walked around the property. We grabbed some snack and ice cream at the creamery. The ice cream was delicious. Then we walked to the winery for the wine tasting. We got 5 choices from a list with many white and red wines, but only one rose. The wines were great, but a bit pricey. Then we headed beach to the parking lot to get in our car and her back to the city for dinner.

We paid roughly $285 for the two of us and we spent most of the time waiting for our selected time to see the house. The gardens were bare. And the fact they let you in after 12noon and most stores are open after 4pm is unjustifiable for the amount of money they charge you.

Overall we felt ripped off. Perhaps it is a better value if you stayed on the property.

Beautiful estate with Chihuly Exhibit bonus.

By Tammie B |

Pleasant visit to America’s largest private residence. Very enjoyable. Staff are friendly and house and grounds are spectacular! Bonus was the Chihuly Exhibit. Highly recommend if you are near Asheville.

Well worth a visit!

By DJC824 |

Really beautiful place. They were already getting ready for Christmas! Make sure to do the wine tasting. Also, make sure to wear comfortable shoes! Just walking the home, can make your feet hurt.

Cold, not much to see, overpriced

By Colby7777 |

Candlelight tour dramatically overpriced. Grounds are not lighted. If you want to pay $140 to see a bunch of artificial Christmas trees in a cold, cold house, this is for you. This is our third visit here and we are appalled by the price gouging and lack of anything of interest. It’s the last time we will be ripped off by these people.

Awesome place to make memories

By TJ |

Beautiful house, beautiful grounds, great place to stay and explore.
Village hotel was a great place to stay as well.. definitely a relaxing place.

Grand

By Eli K |

The Biltmore mansion is just grand. The estate is huge and the gardens are beautiful. The backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains makes the Manson even better. The self guided tour was nice to listen to as you go through the mansion. Although the entrance fee is quite pricey, but you won’t be let down.

Always amazing

By Paula R |

This was our second visit. We did the day tour again because it's been so long since our first visit. The mansion and grounds are amazing and staff super helpful. The evening Christmas tour was identical to the day tour but with the addition of local performers. Well worth the trip. Highly recommend going in summer to see the gardens and Christmas to see the decorations and mansion. lit up at night.

Wow Spectacular

By Cynthia U |

What a showstopper. Although we have been before, the Christmas season is quite spectacular. Sixty four trees with the grounds beautifully lit. It is a lot of walking and lots of stairs. As for difficulty i would rate this 3 men which means able to walk, climb and stand for extended period. The rooms are beautifully decorated. Parking is remote and you are shuttled in.

What’s missing here?

By Robert S |

What justifies the exceedingly high price of admission for this attraction? And unfortunately, that’s just the beginning of your experience which can range from a couple of hours to a few more hours if you want to pay even more? The shuttle driver jokingly said “Welcome to Disney World” when we started the short ride from the parking lot to the mansion. Unfortunately, the admission price isn’t too far off from an all-day Disney park adventure. The spectacle of touring the country’s largest home and grounds is apparently the main attraction. However, the reviews have set high expectations and the actual experience left me wondering what I was missing in not appreciating the self-guided tour more.

Worth a visit

By Colleen D |

An audio tour is a perfect way to see this beautiful home where you will discover the priceless art by many famous painters. Take time to explore the grounds and greenhouse!

Beautiful and so much to see!

By Jessica |

Gorgeous.
Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and clothes. There is a lot of walking, so take advantage of the shuttles. And sunscreen, make sure to wear sunscreen in the summer months.

I wish there was more history in the self guided tour. Although you may wait, the elevator is beautiful.

I will go back, as I didn't see or do it all. Asheville and surrounding areas are so close you can easily stay somewhere cheaper and drive in.

The staff everywhere was extremely friendly. I called to ask questions about arriving before our ticket time and I would recommend getting the earliest tickets possible during the summer. Explore the gardens and boathouse after the mansion.

There was no air conditioning in the mansion, electric fans randomly placed. The crowds made it impossible to stay in any room too long. I guess you could but it felt like conveyor belt viewing.

There are places to sit if you need to. This was a question I asked before going and got different answers. I think the trip would be more enriching if you read up on it before going and understood more about what you're seeing.

The art, architecture, botanical gardens, and history are all mesmerizing. I wouldn't take children that may get bored easily.

There are a lot of stairs, both in the gardens and the house to consider for those with mobility issues. There are also wheelchairs available.

There are no restrooms or water fountains in the house for guests. Women, I recommend taking a sling or cross body bag for comfort and taking a clear water bottle.

I went during the summer, I hope to return for the Christmas season soon.

Impressive kids audio tour

By Mark T |

The grounds and building are first class and the audio tour for kids kept the girls engaged throughout the experience. Lots of great food options too

Not to be missed

By Chris M |

I read "The Last Castle" a few years ago and finally made it to Asheville last weekend. Biltmore is even more incredible that I had expected. The 'house' is amazing and the grounds are stunning. The staff keeps things running smoothly and could not have been more friendly and helpful. The weather was not great, so we did not explore the grounds...but I would definitely visit again to do just that.

Regarding the price...yes it's on the high side. But I think when you consider the vastness of the property and the wine tasting that is included, it's not that far off.

Help for My Hobbling About

By Kathleen S |

The house and gardens are magnificent. The staff are extremely accommodating. It is crowded even though visitor tour entry is managed to limit the number of people inside at any given point. Staff were especially helpful as I was newly using a cane. They made sure I was able to see everything easily and there's a video and video room available for anyone unable to climb to the 3rd floor or down to the basement. I didn't feel like I missed a thing.

Largest private home in the USA

By yukiniki |

This is a must see place!
The estate/ grounds/ gardens and special Chihuly exhibit all worth visiting!
The stables have been converted into shops/ restaurant--- also nice to visit/ eat here.
Felt very welcomed by all Staff/ employees.

A Great holiday experience

By Sterling S |

A wonderful experience. From the front gate to the front door. Meticulous attention to detail makes this a top notch destination. Beautifully maintained property and 8000 acres of magnificence. Winery was a plus! Kudos to ALICE at customer relations for smoothing our entry into the property.

Estate is a marvel and much see. The money-machine feel overrides the house

By johnzerochaos |

I’ve been here, many times, held annual passes, etc. My kids hunted Easter eggs here and I’ve had picnic baskets at the lake and done the Rover during experience. The estate is a marvel and beautiful and a must-see. However it is not what it could be. Security controls and people pushing things along are annoying. 30-40 years ago it was not like that. Much of the house is off-limits (under-developed, storage, in need of restoration) so the estate gives just enough experience to make a fortune but can and should use some of its meg-profits to finish and unleash its potential. On-site restrooms are inconvenient depending on where you are. On-site food is basic and expensive. Shops are expensive. They are both uninteresting. There should be a bus look around the gardens, lakes, dairy, vineyard, farms and so forth with some interesting history. This should be part of the ticket pass.

Most of the staff is extremely knowledgeable. There are interesting facts and background that should be given.

So much of it, the Village, so on are so commercial and it feels like a money machine more than anything.

Well Worth the Visit

By StackyMaryland |

This was a spur of the moment trip which I found was well worth the drive to get there. It had been suggested to me from others who had been and I had also seen it featured in a recent Christmas movie so when I needed a short getaway, this trip worked well. The Biltmore grounds are impressive and the staff was wonderful - all of them!! Every staff member was very welcoming and helpful which made the visit even more enjoyable. The self guided tour w/audio was very informative. I got a little lost briefly when exploring the gardens (yes, it's that big) but found my way. Wear good walking shoes and bring your camera! I'm sure this place is gorgeous at Christmas but the price and my family plans kept me away.

Beautiful home and gardens

By AttyVette |

Visited 6 months after the Hurricane Helene hit this area in September of last year. The Biltmore historic area is still in bad shape but Biltmore house and gardens fared well. I enjoyed going through the house again although it’s been decades since we were here last. They’ve added eating places and gift shops over by what would have been carriage area. Amazing home over 175,000 sq feet of living area. Hard to imagine even today much less being that wealthy back in the 1800’s lol. Would have been nice to be born in Vanderbilt family instead of a poor family. Such is life but seriously this is worth a visit . Beautiful!!

Not ADA friendly or compliant, how?

By Pamela W |

DISABLED AND VETERANS: I’m a disabled vet with spinal disease and wear a back brace but I can walk within reason. This was my third visit and my last. I wasn’t broken last time I came. Yes it’s an opulent property but the management and prices are not worth the $100 per person ticket cost. The marketing materials need to CLEARLY state- everyone welcome but this is not ADA friendly, NO bathrooms in the property, there aren’t elevators, there’s no easy parking, there’s no Ubers allowed to return to pickup, there’s no AC, there long lines where you stand and wait, and there’s no way to view gardens in a wheelchair. They also advertise there’s an art exhibit that isn’t there. We got trapped here and had to request dtafg to drive us to the entrance. None of staff consistently have correct information. The ticket guy and the parking gate were rude and on a power trip. WHY IN 2024 DO WE HAVE TO PICK UP PREPAID PHYSICAL TICKETS? Why are the shuttle services $15 per person to get around the property? Stop taking advantage of people. Making a profit is fine BUT COME ON, the public’s money is covering the cost to run the property and the Vanderbilt’s family lifestyle at the expense of an overpriced experience.

To pricey

By Blessed N |

Went for my birthday. Ridiculous prices 🙄. It is pretty and all but the prices could be more responsible. Will not go back due to price of everything there.

A must experience when in Asheville

By GTheo |

This place is incredible! We had a very nice self guided informative tour. Every area of the mansion is so grand and so beautiful. You really get transported back to the time the Vanderbilts were living there. The grounds outside are massive and worth walking around and taking pictures. There was a free wine tasting including with our tickets to the mansion, but there is a $15 trolley ticket to the winery, that was extra. For over $100 ticket to see the mansion, the trolley should be complimentary. It’s ridiculous to charge so much per person for a 10 minute trolley ride. Once there, the wine tasting was so good. You get to pick 6 different wines to sample and then you can also purchase your favorite. This is the only reason to visit Asheville, so make sure you have a few hours to spend here and to go across to Biltmore Village and walk around and do some shopping.

Enjoying the Biltmore House and Estate

By Ray W |

This is our fifth time to see the Biltmore House. Always something new to learn and see. The grounds are amazing. The house is spectacular. If you get a chance, visit during the Christmas holidays. They decorate the house for the season.

Biltmore is like a fantasy land for grown-ups.

By Dean F |

It's like the setting of a period drama, all grandeur and elegance. I mean, I'm pretty sure the chandeliers are fancier than my entire apartment. You almost feel the need to wear a ball gown or a three-piece suit just to match the vibe. Now, the estate is huge – I got lost a couple of times, not gonna lie.

Yes, tickets are expensive, but worth every penny.

By Elaine2241 |

We traveled to Asheville just to tour the Biltmore Estate. I've been wanting to visit for years. We had wonderful weather on the day of our tour. I was so excited on my first glance of the Biltmore mansion. I couldn't believe I was there. The tour is about 2 hours and you get to see many rooms of the home. They give you an audio recorder that you hold to your ear, and it guides you through the home.

Magnificent Experience and service.

By Robert |

A stay at the Inn at Biltmore and visiting the Entire Estate is a real treat in Service and also American History. The Inn is expensive, but well worth the perks like free shuttles and Valet and is a short walk to Antler Village and the winery. You are treated like Royalty, as the Vanderbilts have for decades. The History is amazing, grounds and gardens on the 8000-acre estate are beautiful, and the staff and attention when staying at the inn is fantastic. Food at the Inn and also the other restaurants is great as well.

Biltmore tour is a full day

By rocketmandan |

This is what you do if visiting Asheville! It’s expensive but is a full day so it’s probably worth it. The gardens are very impressive. Since I am an outdoor guy, this was my favorite place. The indoor tour with 32 stops possible on the recorded voice thing you are given to use at the tour start, is long, but interesting. I did enjoy this.

Amazed at the Marvel of the Biltmore

By inspiruption |

This had been on my bucket list a long time and while everyone has a different opinion of the tour, I LOVED every minute I was in there. Being a history and architectural enthusiast, along with being obsessed with this time period, it was amazing to walk through every room and envision what it was like during the time they lived there and marvel at the construction and invention. I highly suggest touring it if you haven't.

NOTE: I hear Christmas is spectacular there!

Perfectly festive visit

By kathy |

Everything was perfect. The shuttle drivers were personable and informative. Great job with the hurricane cleanup. The estate grounds and home were beautiful. Loved ever festive tree in the gift stores and the estate. Thank you.

Amazing house & grounds!

By Margaret V |

Visiting the Biltmore has been on my list for years and it did not disappoint. From ordering the tickets to the self guided tour it was well organized and the staff was very courteous. We went during the Christmas display and it was beautiful. My suggestion is to go earlier than your timed tour and enjoy the grounds. Even in winter the Conservatory is open and filled with beautiful flowers. Also take advantage of Antler Hill Village where a wine tasting is included with your ticket which is fun. If we lived closer would go again.

Not my cup of tea

By PattiJani |

Pretty but very crowded and I felt overwhelmed with what money can all buy! 167,000 square feet of house! How much do you really need? Plus very expensive to get in to see how the rich people live. I wasn’t in love with it as many others are. The great grand daughter that still owns the place is getting very wealthy of all of us who pay big money to see their Wealth. It cost us $35 just for two sandwiches for lunch, very tasty but rather expensive. The garden was nice, but in between spring and summer. I have seen other gardens I enjoyed better.

Overpriced!!

By Kate Harris |

The most overpriced thing i’ve ever done, how are you charging $130 pp for a mediocre house tour. The line for the wine tasting was over an hour when there’s tons of open booths? Maybe with that $130 you could hire more staff. Truly a TERRIBLE experience

Do not waste your money!

By KikiDeGrace |

Please stop buying tickets to this overpriced monstrosity. I cannot believe how popular it is for how boring it is and it is outrageous what they charge for tickets. All the best national parks and art museums in this country offer much cheaper tickets and much greater cultural value.

Don't go unless you plan to spend 2 days

By Aspergated O |

Disappointed that they didn't offer a 1-day option for the house. We were passing through the area and thought we'd stop in to see it. The weather was too cold to walk around the grounds and we wanted to just take a tour of the house. They only have 2-day packages. We left.

Very difficult for people with mobility issues.

By Ingrid P |

Beautiful estate. The gardens are gorgeous. I did not go inside the house because I had a small dog with me. But, I am handicapped and use a rolator. There are no ramps, only stairs. Also very difficult to push thru the loose gravel.
The shuttles do not allow dogs, even in a carry on.

Beautiful

By Divinelucidity19 |

The tour was led by an exceptional very knowledgeable young lady. The tour was amazing and everything was clean and sparkling!

Stellar

By nnewberger |

Even in winter the Biltmore is worth a visit. The audio tour is one of the best I've ever heard. The shuttle bus drivers are also incredibly knowledgeable and provided interesting details. the holiday decorations throughout the property, including the shops, are elegant and creative.

Great, will return!

By Vinfriendtoo |

The Biltmore is unparalleled in its grandeur. We stayed at the Inn. Fantastic! We enjoyed wine sampling, exploring and, of course the mansion estate. Go to the Christmas tour!

Really enjoyed.

By tambomar |

The tour recording was very good. We had a family member in a wheelchair and couldn't get to the third floor. There was a very nice video showing what we missed.

If you only get to visit The Biltmore Estate Once

By Cryptic_Tourist |

Make sure it’s at Christmas time! It was absolutely stunning all decked out for the season. My family and I did the self guided audio tour and it was amazing. We learned and saw so much and we all really enjoyed it. The estate is like a castle and you should really set aside at least two hours to see it and the grounds as well. We parked in Lot C and took the shuttle over which takes about five minutes and is very easy to find. There is a ton of other things to see and do on property so I would set aside at least a half day or more to see all of that as well. We have also visited The Breakers in Rhode Island and I would recommend doing them both!

Wonderful site , bring wallet

By Jon L |

Stunning property and lovely self guided tour. Grounds and gardens impeccable! Get over to the winery if you can. Our third visit here in the last 5 years. Probably our last visit as I see weekday price for June 2025 is $98 and over a $100 on the weekends
We are visiting Asheville in June but sadly this stop is off the list.

Pricey for what you get

By Journey68438056017 |

I give this hotel a 3 because, at nearly $200 a night, I felt it was overpriced for what you get. I was also stunned to be charged $17.00 for valet parking. I definitely would have booked elsewhere if I had realized this charge beforehand. The room was small with a small table and one chair. If you want to eat in the room, someone has to sit on the bed. The right side of the bed was less that 2 feet from the wall. My 6'4" husband and I had to change sides because it was uncomfortable for him to squeeze in that space. The rooftop restaurant, Hemingway's, was kind of divey so we only stayed for a drink and ate elsewhere. On the plus side, the bathroom and shower were big and nice. The bed was comfortable. Staff was very attentive and friendly. And, champagne at check-in was a treat. But, for the price, I think we'll stay elsewhere next time.

Harry potter dream come true

By Deepika B |

The best castle experiece we ever had. Went with my hubby and my little girl and she was taken away in fantasy world of Harry potter. There was Headphones guide so we didn't had to follow the guide but room around freely listening to the headphones respectively. Great hospitality and lot of food option inside the castle. Must visit with family. Also the short bus ride was worth enjoying the scenic route.

Asheville/PGA trip

By tracysM780PR |

The Biltmore is an amazing must see attraction as always. However, the phones for the tour are awkward. A phone app or headsets would be easier to navigate. This was our first time doing the wine tasting. We really enjoyed it. Our sommelier was knowledgeable and friendly. The wines were good. Great time.

Wonderful Christmas Experience

By Robin |

Second time this year and decorated for Christmas. Learned eve. More than the first time 8 months ago. Highly recommended.

Two Days at the Biltmore

By LOVE-2-TRVL-4-FUN |

Lovely place to visit. We took the 90 minute private tour and it was so worth it. Kayla was out tour guide and she was so informative and easy to understand. Very willing to answer all of our questions. Got to go into the library where the latest Hallmark movie "Christmas at the Biltmore" was filmed.

Beautiful Biltmore

By Donna M |

We have done Biltmore before and it does not disappoint and the gardens were beautiful. I love going thru at my own pace.
Every single person we encountered was top notch professional and helpful!

Asheville Get Away

By mona s |

Booking online was easy, We did the 2 day tickets with the King Tut Exhibit. Checking in went smoothly. The King Tut exhibit was good, the audio was just a little confusing at the end. The house is incredible, lots of rooms and the audio was excellent. The next day we went back to see the gardens and rode bikes around the paved path that started by the winery. It was a beautiful day , the sunflowers are beautiful. We really enjoyed that second day.

My husband took me in 1995 for a birthday/retirement present. We loved it. We had been before but not at Christmas!!

By Sybil B |

Amazing. We went at Christmas, first of December. It was magic!! We had been before but not at Christmas. This was in 1995.

Well worth the visit. Make it a day or two adventure.

By BOB G |

I did the exclusive tour (90 minutes with a great guide) Up to twelve people. So very fun and amazing, you also get to re tour the house and spend as much time as you wish in the self guided tour. This is an amazing place. I loved it.

Perfect two days for best friends annual trip.

By Sailnaked361 |

From the unexpected early check in to so many special perks from staying onsite we were able to make the most of our two days on property. Two visits to the house and gardens, lunch at the Stable, wine tastings, snacks, sunset drinks and lite bite at the Library at the Inn, Legacy exhibit, walk around Bass pond to boat house and “waterfall”. Conservatory was amazing. There is a lot of walking and driving. We re arranged our activities after we got on property and took the first drive around. Loved it so much I became an annual pass holder! Look forward to many more visits to share with friends!

Incredible Tour

By Walter O |

Fabulous and Fantastic visit to this amazing estate. The history, architecture, furnishings, gardens, grounds, and overall experience exceeded expectations. The trolley and shuttle drivers provide fun facts and insights along with suggestions so listen to them. An older woman named Joy who works at the information desk and at the Inn concierge was phenomenal. What a gem of a person. And Every employee we encountered was friendly and helpful.

Must tour of Biltmore house

By Wanda C |

The house and gardens tour was great. You get an audio device to listen to. Push appropriate number for area and listen to great explanations. Views were tremendous and the furnishings in the house were awesome. Took about 2 hours. Also visited winery and did complimentary wine tasting and ended up with more wine to take home.

All we hoped for and more.

By Elaine H |

Our visit to the Biltmore Estates was everything we had been told and more. We drove to the estates and then were able to drive through the property to visit the other sites and winery.

Huge site

By Nick A |

I love a historic tour and this site delivered. There is so much to take in beyond the house. The initial house tour was amazing, and that alone was worth the trip. Everywhere you turn on this site there is more to take in.

YOU'LL DEFINITELY BUY A POWERBALL TICKET AFTER VISITING!

By Jack S |

Despite the pricey admission charge, at least once in your lifetime, you have to experience the grandeur of the Biltmore Estate.

It's awe-inspiring, enthralling, and leaves you simply amazed, like the first time you visited Branson, Missouri or watched Color TV at your rich Uncle's house (before he went to prison for tax evasion).

The Biltmore Estate is an amazing piece of architecture, featuring many works of fine art, surrounded by incredible natural beauty.

Here are some tips for a successful visit based upon our experience...

1. BEST TIME TO VISIT
- there are two seasons at the Biltmore - BUSY and BUSIER
- best time to visit is early in the morning during the middle of the week
- if you can't do that, make a reservation when kids are in school in order to avoid families and class Field Trips
2. KIDS
- most children/teens will be bored senseless when it comes to tapestry, faux stone and rose gardens so think twice about buying them a ticket
3. ACCESSIBILITY
- touring the estate can be challenging for those with disabilities (lots of stairs)
- so much so that there is a small theater showing a video of the house in more detail
4. THE ROSE GARDEN
- spoiler alert - flowers don't bloom in the winter, so you'll be traipsing through a whole lot of nothing if you visit at that time of year
- the Greenhouse is worth a quick stop, though you'll be hard pressed to find anyone to answer your Garden Club questions
- the Greenhouse Gift Shop and Greenhouse Wine Bar are nothing special
5. ANTLER VILLAGE
- the only reason to fight for a parking spot here is the VANDERBILT LEGACY exhibit (an excellent history of the family)
- there are plenty of better dining options right outside the entrance to the estate
- didn't you buy enough souvenirs at the Estate Gift Shop?
6. WINE TASTING
- only if you think waiting on line to sample North Carolina wine is worth the hassle
7. VANDERBILT HISTORY
- be sure to read up on the Commodore's family in Wikipedia before your trip
- because there's nothing worse than hearing someone ask, "Is this the University?"
8. ONE DAY VISIT
Despite there being a second day return trip permitted with your ticket, you can't re-enter the home, so unless stumbling through the woods is what you like to do with your spare time, one day is more than enough time to visit

And most importantly...

9. GIFT SHOPS
- don't forget to buy the Biltmore Coffee Table Book and Xmas Ornament
- they'll definitely make a great contribution to Goodwill someday

Private Morning Tour

By Lee K |

We took the morning tour before it opened to the public and was a great tour. Felt like we were the only people in the house. We were behind the 1st group and they are spaced out 10 min and only saw the other group once. It was nice having a personalized tour of the home with a guide and a small group (5). Definitely worth the price and privacy and quietness of it to take it all in.

Bucket list item. Didn’t disappoint

By karenbeermann |

I have been waiting for years to visit this bucket list place

It did not disappoint. Loved the audio tour and the history of it is amazing

Gardens were just starting to bloom

Definitely do the wine tasting and explore the shops in Antler Village

We spent 5 hours and could have used an hour more

Recommend beautiful estate.

By camelsolutions |

This is a beautiful estate. Christmas decorations were beautiful. However, at Christmas you should have more live performances throughput the estate not just in two rooms. If not possible have background music. Would have been nice if they had period dressed actors in some of the rooms. Disappointed in audio descriptions. Staff were courteous and knowledgeable. Bus driver let us wait on her bus on an incredibly cold night … very grateful since it was not suppose to snow flurry.

The best Estate-Mansion I have visited

By Betoagg |

This was an exceptional experience—one that, in my opinion, surpasses many of the mansion tours in Newport, RI, and even several of the châteaux in France’s Loire Valley. Access is smooth, with well-organized parking areas and complimentary shuttles that make getting around effortless. The 90-minute audio-guided tour is informative and absolutely worth your time.

The mansion grounds include a restaurant, snack options, and drinks, but for a fuller experience, be sure to visit the Village. There, you’ll find wine tastings, a charming pub, and a variety of restaurants to round out your visit.

Biltmore home is great but too commercial

By cowboys7282 |

Finally got to stop and see the Biltmore. The home itself is beautiful. Wonderful history and the self guided tour is very informative. During the tour of the home you viewed the women servant's quarter that were in the Biltmore, it stated that the men servant rooms were above the carriage house and horse stalls which now is home to shops, restaurants and wine tasting. The Biltmore is too commercial needs to have the historic carriage house more like the home. The price is $100 per person but if you want to see it, it is costly

Wonderful trip to the Biltmore

By Thomas P |

The Biltmore house is a wonderful attraction. The mansion tour takes about 90 minutes for the self paced audio guide tour. There are also gardens a winery and shops and restaurants on the property.

Experience the Gilded Age at the Biltmore

By Mixa's Travels |

My first visit to the Biltmore Estate was in the winter 1977. Then the tour was a personal guided tour of the mansion. We have visited several times over the years and are never disappointed. Each visit has something new or intriguing that we learn about the house, the estate, the family and more. Plus technology has changed how the house tours are conducted. When going to the Biltmore plan a full day, as there are so many things to do and see. On this visit, our tour time was at 1:30PM. Our recommendation is for an early house tour to then provide time to explore, Antler Village, the Farmyard, the Winery and The Biltmore Legacy.
We recommend parking at the Garden Parking area and then strolling through the Conservatory, the Walled Garden and the Italian Gardens to get to the mansion. The Gardens are beautiful and this is nice way to begin your visit, as you will see by the pictures. The Pictures are bascially a tour of the property starting with the Conservatory/Gardens and then Audio Tour of the Mansion.

Amazing vision to create this estate and loved hearing more about the history

By Dancinglady1965 |

The Biltmore is stunning. Loved walking the gardens which are beautiful. It took me a while to realize that we could come to the estate earlier than our House tour reservations and enjoy the gardens. Fortunately, I figured this out the night before so we were able to walk the gardens while it was still somewhat cool. The house tour was amazing and enjoyed the audio tour information. Completely worth the visit and would recommend for anyone that is in the area.

Whirlwind Biltmore day

By Megan B |

During the busiest time of the year (the week after Christmas), we visited the estate, taking the self-guided and the backstairs tours.

The house was crowded. But the self-guided tour was informative and easy to use. The house was beautifully decorated for Christmas. The docents scattered throughout the house were helpful and informative when asked questions.

Lines were long for expensive food. And you can only take an approved water bottle into the house.

The tour guide for the backstairs tour (an add on) was extremely knowledgeable and kept the tour moving. They worked to make the tour accessible for a deaf participant. I would have liked more up close details and access to family artifacts for paying extra for the tour.

Antler Village was also decorated beautifully for the holidays. Restaurants were busy with long waits. Make reservations. The website has all the menus and enough info to feel confident in your choice before you get there.

The free wine tasting involved waiting in a line, a bit like cattle or tired tourists at Space Mountain. But the wines were good and our sommelier was friendly and knowledgeable.

We came back the next morning with the dogs to walk around the back side of the estate.

Getting two-day tickets is expensive but worth it if you’re interested in the house and/or family. It was too much to do two tours back to back and then go to the village in one day. We missed the gardens and arboretum entirely.

Magical Castle Like Estate

By Joseph S |

This is a magical place at Christmas Time. It is truly an American treasure. While entrance fee is not cheap, it is well worth the experience. You were able to get a great view of the Vanderbilt family, the staff that ran the estate behind the scenes and the individuals that built this beautiful palace. The views on this estate are absolutely stunning. Only distraction from experience is the level of marketing that goes on with products and memorabilia. Was able to check out Chiluly exhibit while there for added fee. Beautiful artwork throughout.

Nice stop on the way through Asheville

By LanieT |

Great tour of the house! The tickets were more expensive than the Newport Mansions, but it felt worth it. Reasonably priced and tasty food, clean bathrooms. You'll have two choices for parking: park and walk or park and shuttle. We choose the latter and it was really convenient and quick.

Biltmore is perfect Christmas Trip

By CrazyCatLadyForever |

It was such a good day!!! I highly suggest the candlelight tour… Very magical and an awesome Christmas trip! Make sure to go to the greenhouse and antler village.

Beautiful grounds and tour, but needs some modernizing entry points

By worldtraveler952015 |

Beautiful grounds, we had a wonderful private tour of the Biltmore House which is different than the self guided audio tour. They have everything to shop and dine but they need more outdoor airconditioned spaces to sit. The told us to enter directly after our private tour to do the self guided one and not wait in line, but when we did after lunch there, they did not easily let us enter. This should be some sort of policy that is widely understood with a wrist band or something. They need wrist band upon entering security so if you should step outside to the gardens you can re enter without going through security again by displaying the wrist band at any guarded gate. The grounds are very hot in the summer and they should have fans everywhere for guests. They allow dogs of all sizes around the Estate and this was a highlight for me.

Stunning and amazing estate

By Linda R |

What a fabulous place to visit. The estate is jaw dropping and it was once fully self-contained with a dairy farm, forestry school, horse stables, various gardens, a lake and more. There is a nice hotel to spend the night if you really want to see and experience the whole estate. There is wine tasting, ice cream shop and a few other shops. There are also a few shops outside the mansion where books etc are sold plus a place for snacks with seating. It's the largest house in the U.S. and the vision of George Vanderbilt. It is run by George's great grandchildren that continues his legacy.

The Biggest House in America !

By Cpjules |

My wife & I along with my nephew and his family toured the grand old estate on a hot sunny day.
We visited the garden, the house and the winery and creamery.
All was very nice, picturesque and interesting. Too bad it was so hot. By around 5 we needed to seek out the A/C back at our diggs

Just enjoy your time and chance to experience

By Daniel D |

Loved seeing the mansion and the stables which is where we ate. Just beautiful. The property was unbelievable hard to imagine living in a place like this
We will go again.

Grounds Tour Only

By christina b |

The spring flowers were just starting to bloom. I am sure that in a couple of weeks the grounds will be bursting with color once the azaleas bloom. The conservatory was beautiful. We enjoyed Antler Village with the animals. The baby goats were adorable. Staff were very friendly. I wish the small museum would have touched on how the family obtained their wealth. There were areas for children to play which is nice for families. We were glad that we ate a big breakfast prior to our visit as there were lines for the restaurants around lunchtime. Overall we felt like the grounds tour was overpriced. We have been to many botanical gardens that were just as nice and half the price.

WOW!

By maisiemom |

Gorgeous and well-maintained mansion and grounds. Audio tour was immersive and was nice to be self-paced. TIP: give yourself at least 2 days to explore everything at Biltmore Estate from the house tour, to the gardens, winery and shops!

Must see in Asheville

By JEF |

Came with my husband for our Anniversary trip. Awesome experience to walk the rooms that held such wealth and learn the history of the family.
Purchased the 2 day pass with the Chihuly exhibit. Did the house on day one and the winery.
Day 2 was the grounds and the exhibit.
Was very happy with the whole experience.
It is a little pricey but we'll worth it.

Biltmore Web Site Omits Informaton

By sprachnroll |

The Biltmore web site is an atrocious example of omitting critical information. We’re travelling with a dog and so can’t access the house. Fine, but can we buy a ticket for grounds only access? If so, how much? What will parking cost? Absolutely nothing on their web site answers those basic questions UNTIL you click on “buy. tickets.” Thanks for wasting my time.

Tres magnifique American treasure

By Jimbear |

Simple review. The magnificent Biltmore is still "tres magnifique" after more than 125 years of treasured existence.
Thank you to the super wealthy Vanderbilt family and George and his architects and craftsmen in particular.

Beautiful tour of an awesome inspiring property!

By Laurie F |

We toured The Biltmore for the first time and the audio tour was really good. If there’s a way to take a more intimate group tour that would be great but this allows you to go at your own pace. Also, there are stairs involved. They were very accommodating with an original elevator to the property as I have had a back surgery and couldn’t do all the stairs. The added bonus was the King Tut exhibit also there.

Sparse decorations

By Dreama W |

What happened to the Christmas decorations? So sparse and dull colors. Everything looked haphazardly planned. Budget problems?

Annual pass is worthless for my family

By bowman514 |

Purchased an annual pass to return around Christmas. Everything thing is booked months ahead! Why would I spend that much money and not be able to use it. Was told by customer service to come back another time. So very disappointed

GET YOUR TICKETS ON LINE

By spacekat_8 |

Get your tickets on line before you go or you could be turned away!! Showed up @ 12:20 and could NOT get in to the mansion! Having traveled a bit I didn't want to just turn back so I paid $66 to walk around the grounds. Mansion access comes with extra gounds day but grounds access does not come with any mansion perks so I'll have to pay $104 yet to see the mansion if I go back!!!

The Biltmore Estate

By cinders k |

The Biltmore Estate is always a wonderful experience, from the grand House and its history to the incredible landscape swansong of Frederick Law Olmsted. But right now in 2024 there is the added dimension of the fabulous exhibit of Dale Chihuly's glasswork. Magnificent. While the entrance fee feels over the top, the fact is, its an entire day's worth of activities that only spills over into Asheville itself as the history of the city and its forested areas are all interwoven into this estate. You can't really separate the two.

Hope to return soon!

By mairimouse |

This was a completely amazing experience and I highly recommend it! The estate is beautiful and the furnishings are exquisite! The staff is helpful and it is quite obvious they are pleased to work there and proud of the property and their part in making visitors feel welcome. The depth of knowledge which the staff shares truly enhances the visit and excellent audio information provided on the "wands" provided for each guest. The gracious hospitality of the Vanderbilt/Cecil family in allowing visitors may have a financial benefit, but nothing other than love for the property could have motivated them. I look forward to returning in other seasons!

Biltmore was an awesome experience with extra perks

By Faith Pence |

We went for the Chihuly exhibit on Biltmore Estates. We purchased 2 consecutive day tickets which included the exhibit. The Stable Cafe was a great place to rest & eat!

Wow! Well Worth a Visit!

By LilG50 |

The Biltmore Estate and property is an expensive excursion - $100+ USD per person. However, after our visit we both felt it was well worth the money. The property is immense and really a sight to behold. The estate itself is incredible set in the midst of the Blue Ridge Mountains. We really enjoyed the self-guided tour of the house. It is really well done. We also visited the beautiful gardens and Conservatory. We had lunch at Cederic’s Tavern in the Antler Village. We also enjoyed the wine tasting at the Biltmore Winery which was part of our admission. The Museum in the Antler Village also gave an interesting overview of the Vanderbilt family. Not included in the admission price is the Chihuly Glass Art Exhibit. It is well worth the extra expense. We spent a full day 9:30 - 5:30 at Biltmore and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area!

Beautiful, amazing historic mansion well worth the time and visit.

By MissHappyPatty |

This is our second visit to The Biltmore. It is a beautiful historic mansion with amazing architecture. One almost has to go twice to absorb its magnificence. The staff are professional, friendly, and respectful. Our room 8306 on the 3rd floor in The Village Hotel was clean, immaculate. Bathroom up to date with modern walk-in shower. There is no view, only another rooftop. The bed and bedding products felt good. The pillows were so comfortable we asked to purchase two; they said yes at $17 each. Even though tours are spaced, at $90 each, it is crowded, and you continue to run into another person as you listen to the audio. The tour is not as long as it was before and does not cover as much as it did in 2016 on our first visit. America should be proud of this mansion. The signage around The Biltmore needs help as it is easy to get lost - try and study the map before driving around. Having said all the above, be aware prices of everything at The Biltmore have sky-rocketed to the point a visitor feels they are being price gouged. We wanted a personal tour, but it is unaffordable to the average person. The small stores have items not the greatest quality but triple the cost with most being made overseas. I wish I could have purchased items made by local artisans from the area, but most items are foreign made. The winery seemed popular with many buying wine, but we do not drink wine so cannot comment on it. Food was good but not great. Scrambled eggs at the Village Restaurant were cold one morning. The best meal was at the Bistro - Filet $62 - absolutely delicious and well worth it. I want to give it a five-star rating, but it is hard as the experience was not as it was before; maybe it is because the cost of living has gone up. I would still highly recommend going to The Biltmore as it is a national treasure but be prepared for it to be very expensive.

Biltmore House & Gardens - Great, Chihuly Exhibit - Waste

By swid2021 |

We went for our anniversary. The mansion tour was great covering more than we thought it would, so we didn’t feel that we missed much by not taking additional guided tours. Although using the audio tour is ok, we missed the nuances that you get with a real guide…also it is hard to notice items in the rooms while trying to listen to the audio.
The gardens were beautiful. But be warned that they are downhill from the mansion and the walk back is mostly uphill. We did 15k steps in the gardens and 13 flights of stairs and we barely scratched the surface. One other item bothered us, there are very few labels / identifiers on the plantings - almost none. We are always looking for plants to make our landscape interesting and didn’t like that we couldn’t identify the plants - except through the iPhone (which is not always accurate).
Antler Village & Winery: the wine tasting that was included with our tour was great! The village was nice. Shops are fairly expensive. We didn’t have any food on the estate so can’t comment on it. Tried to sit at the wine bar but it was crowded.
Chihuly exhibit: Seems there was much advertising about this exhibit online and in Asheville. Since it was included with our 2-day tour we went to the exhibit. This was definitely overrated. Maybe because we are not into this style of glass art…but there was a video to watch and 2-3 rooms of this glass art…took us like 5 min to go through after the 15 min video…not worth the visit (to us) and we certainly wouldn’t have paid for it if it was a separate cost.
All in all a nice place to visit…we enjoyed most of it.

Exquisite estate to visit/spend the day!

By Andrea M |

We visited Asheville for the first time last week and really enjoyed our visit to the Biltmore estate. I knew it would be beautiful but it was absolutely exquisite! We have visited many castles and estates around the world and it’s exciting to see something so beautiful and with so much history here in the USA.
We bought tickets online for the self guided audio tour (prices are a little less mid-week), showed our tickets to park. You can either take a short walk to the entrance or a shuttle. You enter through a metal detector- small bags and a clear water bottle are approved. I took my Canon camera - tripods are not permitted.
We walked the few shops outside the house and visited the flower gardens. The roses were just beautiful and so many varieties to see!

The self guided tour was excellent and we’d consider returning for a specialized tour offered on the website. After the tour, we had a delicious lunch at the Stable Bar. The restaurant is also beautiful with hints of horse stalls from yesteryear. We purchased a few chocolates from the sweet shop - yum!

After that we drove the rest of the property and returned to our bed and breakfast. We spent about 5 hours there but could have spent longer if it didn’t start to rain.

We then

not worth the (very high) price

By Le066 |

I am from the UK and while the house and gardens are impressive, the price is shockingly high. This is often justified by saying that Biltmore is privately owned and doesn't receive subsidies from the state (unlike Windsor Castle, Palace of Versailles etc). But there are hundreds of stately homes in the UK which are privately owned and their gardens are more impressive than Biltmore. For example Highclere castle (location for Downton Abbey) is privately owned and a fifth the price of visiting Biltmore and the gardens are better. So i recommend that you give this a miss if you are from Europe, it is nothing special.

Awesome

By fast time |

House, flowers, grounds are beautiful. It is cool to see how the very rich people from the gilded age lived, and how I will never be able to afford to live in a tent on the property. If you’re close by to have to go see this house.

Great couples excursion through a classic American story and home

By Matt H |

My wife and I visited the Biltmore for the second time. Always a great experience. We had sandwiches at the coffee shop. And good ice cream at the creamery. Only negative is that nothing is blooming when you visit in February.

My wife and I enjoyed.

By Scoops8464 |

Beautiful grounds and amazing property. $150 per person but can walk the grounds after touring the house. It was a nice experience and very happy we did the tour. Wish we spent more time for there are other things on the property as well as the garden area.

Amazing.

By loyanedel |

Beautiful mansion and the grounds were gorgeous. Views were breathtaking. A lot of walking, but it was worth it.
We’ll definitely make a return trip !

A Well Appointed Home with gardens and shops

By Laura R |

The ticket is very expensive, over $100. But, the house is in great condition. The furniture is original. Many of the rooms are open to view, and there is an audio guide. Aside from the house, there are 2 gardens, which are well manicured. There is a village, which has a cute museum about their travels. Most of the restaurants in the village were closed when I went. There are also cafes next to the house. Overall, you can spend the entire day admiring the opulence of the house, and various other shops.

Tremendous

By Wander21904802119 |

Mansion is spectacular. The exclusive private your is worth every $. Staff is very friendly.
Plenty of on site activities

Worth the time and money…every time

By luvthecarribean! |

Second time visiting the Biltmore and it was wonderful. Appreciated the gardens even more this time around, especially the conservatory. Added the backstairs tour and was disappointed. Nothing really worth seeing and the information about who used the backstairs area and for what was common sense.

Not for Chihuly Fans this year.

By Nephtali M |

We have visited Biltmore several times over the years and it is still a wonderful place to visit.
I think they gave themselves a “black eye” using the latest Chihuly Exhibit as Major draw to lure customers.
If you have ever visited a large Chihuly exhibit similar to the “World Class” exhibit at Biltmore several years ago, you will be extremely disappointed. This present exhibit is indoors and minuscule in comparison. You can view it in 30 minutes, if you stop to take lots of photos. We wouldn’t have driven even two hours to see this not to say it was a 10 hour drive. If you want to visit Biltmore, you’ll love it, but don’t expect a classic Chihuly Exhibit or you will be as disappointed as we and all the other Chihuly fans we met there.

Can’t miss when visiting Asheville

By nosleeptillvaca |

Must see…..great tour of historic home and gardens. You can spend hours here. We also visited the winery and the wine and food were decent.

Spectacular site to visit in Asheville NC

By Betty S |

The Biltmore Estate should be seen by everyone at least once. As passholders, my husband and I visit frequently. The decorations for Christmas are spectacular.
We recently went to see the King Tut exhibit which was absolutely amazing!

Magnificent House Sparkles At Christmas

By Jim G |

We came to The Biltmore to celebrate a milestone occasion so I ordered the Candlelight Christmas Exclusive Tour. Excellent choice! We had a private tour with guide Mary Cunningham. The tour took us into rooms not included in the general audio tour, which was included in our ticket and we enjoyed the next day, and the explanations were more extensive.

The house is magnificent in any season but sparkles at Christmas. The Biltmore Christmas story goes back to its first Christmas, in 1895. The Candlelight Christmas is a continuation of a tradition, not just decoration of a house.

Mary is knowledgeable, enthusiastic and obviously loves the Biltmore and her job. She made us feel special. The tour costs more but, for us, it was worth it. We left feeling we had the top-notch visit to the Biltmore.

We thoroughly enjoyed our two day visit.

By Jean G |

We spent two days here. The grounds. The house. The winery. All worth the price of admission. Chihuly was magnificent. I'd love to come back and stroll the grounds. We just got a tiny taste.

Biltmore House is a must see for those in the area.

By meyeraa56 |

I have never been a big history fan (like my husband) but I really enjoyed this tour!!! First note, it is a bit of a walk from the parking areas unless you pay to park/ride (not sure how that is done). Also note that there are amenities, little shops, a restaurant and restrooms, etc. when you get close to the house, but you cannot get in line to go inside until your tour ticket time. Also note, if you downloaded the ticket on your phone you may want to do a quick snapshot because the internet is not strong there and you will have to let the ticket stand print it.

I might add at this point it probably isn't a tour to take most young kids on as it could be a struggle for the parents as it is mostly quiet, and no one is allowed beyond the corded ropes (everywhere) in each area and the docents are walking around to make sure.

The best thing for me on this tour was having the portable audio unit that they provide to everyone!!! I will note that at my age the 3 flights of marble curved stairs were a bit of a struggle for me having to hold the thick cord going up as the handrail was only on the on the other downward side although I could stop to catch my breath if needed for this tour (not the additional balcony tour - more below about that).

The history behind this home and every room was so interesting! Seeing the rooms the family lived in were so opulent during their time! It was also amazing to learn that the whole house structure is made from stone, the roof is metal, and it was designed this way (vs. wood) so that they did not need to worry about the home burning down if the forest caught fire, etc. Also, cool air or heated air was piped in depending on the seasons (read about it online). The lower rooms are predominately the kitchen, food prep area, food storage, employee living, laundry and other interesting rooms along with the pool in the basement!!! It was well worth the ticket price.

Now, due to my age and a slight health issue when we bought the second tour ticket a week earlier also for the 4 balconies tour. I was told you needed to be able to walk up 3 flights of stairs and then in another area a spiral staircase. I discussed my issues prior to purchase, and they said to see how it went with the regular tour and although the balcony tour is typically non-refundable the agent assured me if I had trouble on the regular tour, they would refund me the second ticket price.

Well, since I did okay on the first tour with the 3 flights of marble stairs (at my own pace) I thought I would probably be okay on this second tour. They did not explain a week prior that on the second private tour that you go up all 3 flights at once non-stop as you are with a private group! It was a struggle to catch my breath at the top and I was a bit worried, but we all went into another room (separate from the regular tours) to look at the architectural mock-up of Biltmore house along with more history so that helped and stayed there about 10 minutes. Then we did the spiral staircase, but it was only about 12 steps and thankfully slow moving since it was so narrow.

It was pretty amazing being on the three very narrow balconies. The first one was the narrowest and one young woman could not open her eyes to look down to the front drive of the house below, one was overlooking the roof at the top of the 3-story chandelier (that hangs down the staircase inside) and the third enabled movement around the roof perhaps for repairs, but the last one was stone and very wide overlooking the mountains and the land owned by the estate. Note: the adult children and their families live in separate homes on the property, out of sight.

Although I won't do the balcony tour again, if you are young and heathy and want to spend the money for the "behind the scenes" areas, I would say, do it!

Wonderful audio tour! Perfect half day trip.

By dianedP9634YY |

Stunning property and home. The self guided audio tour is very clever and worked out great. We parked in nearest parking lot and walked a short distance to the home. Took the shuttle on the return. Being that our trip was in February the estate was not at all crowded and we had plenty of room for viewing the interior, and strolling through the conservatory and the nearby gardens. Checked out the wine tasting that’s included in the ticket price at the Antler after our tour. Very nice altho there was a wait to get in. Easy parking at the Antler. Enjoyed the lovely home decor/gift/wine shop.

Memorable Experiences at Biltmore

By Haley Bullock |

I visited Biltmore a few years ago, and it is one of the most beautiful places I have visited. The entire estate, with its beautiful gardens and architecture, is worth seeing. I still enjoy going back to look at some of the pieces that I was able to capture on the tour. I even remember some of the stories the guides told on the elevator! To anyone who loves nature, art, and history, I'd recommend taking a trip down to visit!

Spectacular!

By Diane K |

This place is spectacular. Obviously we didn't stay in the Biltmore House, we stayed at the Estate Inn. The amenities were as nice as any I've experienced, plus a real red rose, robes and slippers, luxurious bathroom products, a bottle of wine, and a coffee table book. We also had tickets to the Chihuly exhibit. The grounds are remarkable. The dining was 'top shelf'. Great service.

Very pricey

By travelema3 |

Unfortunately the cost was out of our price range for an afternoon activity. The fee is $90 per person. Hopefully we can save and go a different time.

Beautiful but expensive

By NW748 |

Beautiful estate and grounds. Even after entering the adress the biltmore tells you to enter into the GPS, it still led us to the employee entrance, and many people had that problem. It is a pretty drive up to the mansion. Be prepared for Alot of walking. Parking lot A is closest but there was no shuttle so if you don’t want to walk to the entrance, park in another lot and take the shuttle. Everything is very well organized for the tours. It’s easy to navigate your way through the tour. Some spots get pretty crowded. The home is an architectural wonder and the gardens and conservatory are stunning. We wanted to eat lunch at Cedric’s but it was a long wait so we got sandwiches from the ice cream shop- the sandwiches weren’t very good, so wouldn’t recommend that. It was nice to have the free wine tasting. There is also a small museum that has a little more info on the Vanderbilt family. The whole estate is just beautiful and you could enjoy a whole day there.

King Tut Exhibit at the Biltmore

By Joe T |

My wife and I went to the King Tut Exhibit.

Ok ..call me jaded. But, this was nothing compared to the 1976 DC exhibit that displayed the actual King Tut gold artifacts. I am saw that exhibit in person.

The Biltmore King Tut exhibit displayed reproductions only. No real King Tut Artifacts are on display.

I don't watch movies at exhibits. I just go to YouTube if I need a video fix.

I read. I didn't walk around with an audio device droning on and dictating my pace thru the exhibit.

For me.....it was a hollow shell of Tuts Exhibit.

I think I paid over $100 for exhibit.....way overpriced for representative history.

It was like going to Las Vegas to see the Eiffle Tower instead of going to Paris and seeing the real thing.

Rude. Overpriced

By Lori G |

Way Overpriced. Confusing ticketing. We needed 3 different documents to just go to King Tut experience. The gate attendant was extremely rude to my elderly mother as she was trying to navigate through the ridiculous ticket process. The attendant or guard, whatever, yelled at her that "she needed to learn how to follow directions!." Not the so-called "Biltmore customer service model." The pricing is ridiculous on everything. I can deal with the money... but I cannot tolerate the rude treatment. There are much better things to do in Asheville, NC to spend hundreds of dollars on. Don't waste your money.

Bucket list visit to The Biltmore Estate

By J & A |

The largest private home in America is a "must do" off the old bucket list of travels. George Washington Biltmore did not spare anything when it came to his home in Asheville, NC. Lovely home, experience and the hospitality offered is only found in the South.

A Magnificent Property

By David S |

A magnificent property, well maintained and managed. The common areas are grand in scale and decor. The room with its bathroom were updated beautifully and the hotel staff are professional and attentive. Everything one would expect form a five star historic hotel.

Biltmore was awesome

By Jacki R |

I would give this a 10 if I could. We LOVED our visit. We did take the extra "Vanderbilt guests" exclusive tour - which is limited to 8 people but the tour shows you what it would be like to be a vanderbilt guest, from signing the guest book to the guest rooms not seen on the audio tour. The guide told you a bit about the people visiting and what a stay would be like. We came back the next day for the audio tour and walked around the gardens. The audio tour was exceptional - giving you the history and family tid bits of each room. INCREDIBLE detail in everything from fabric covered walls to intricate crown molding. The Banquet Hall and the Library were exceptionally elaborate. Every bit was amazing! The history and architecture were awesome!

An Eye Popping Experience!

By Ellyk2012 |

What can you say about a place this extraordinary that hasn’t been said before. Is it expensive? Yes… Is it worth it? Absolutely! Knowing this is probably the only time we’ll get to see it, we are so glad we had the chance to visit. The grounds and the estate are impeccable, very organized, a well run machine leaving nothing to find fault with. It was a beautiful, sunny April day and packed with tourists. Not long at all to wait to tour inside, getting lunch at the food court did take awhile due to the crowds. If you have the time and money I would recommend staying overnight at the estate’s accomodations.

Great visit once again!!

By SJMLD |

Second time taking our preteen son to Biltmore. We visited in February but came back specifically for the King Tut exhibit. We visited the house but also did a roof top tour this time. Absolutely informative tour guide who was well aware of the history. We were shown incredible views from the roof. There is so much of this home to be discovered. Highly recommend doing an added tour.
The King Tut exhibit is absolutely incredible. Our son was amazed at all the artifacts that were displayed and the tombs. He learned about Egypt and the pharaohs in school but this gave him an up close experience. The Biltmore family connection is a great surprise. Looking forward to seeing more exhibits here. The wine tasting is phenomenal and the onsite dining is delicious and convenient. We are considering getting annual passes. We love Biltmore!!

Estate is beautiful, but way overpriced

By Jennifer G |

We loved visiting the estate for the first time and at Christmas. This was a bucket list item for my fiancée, and we were finally able to accomplish it after his retirement from the Navy after 26 years. The only tickets left were for 9pm on December 6. Despite my aggressive reading of the rules, the closing time was never indicated to us. We actually entered slightly before 9pm and diligently hit every button (and extra audio on #) that was available to us. We did not dawdle. However, at around 10:15pm we were told that we had 15 minutes to finish the tour (we were in the pool area at that time). While that was stressful enough, then we had a female employee with blonde hair following about 5 feet away from me for the rest of the tour. Being hounded by "Nurse Ratched" did nothing to let us focus on the last 15 minutes of the tour, besides it being very uncomfortable to have someone so close in my personal space. What had been a wonderful evening of a wish fulfilled, turned into a lot of frustration and disappointment as she kept telling us that this tour should take an hour and 20 minutes. Whether it does or not, your website clearly states that most people stay in the house for 1.5 -2 hours. So why in the world would you sell 9pm tickets and force people out by 10:30pm? Ither the house should be open until 11pm or you should stop selling tickets at 8:30pm. Those tickets are $175/person. We were not the only ones. Another couple who also entered at 9pm were similarly frustrated. We did not get to finish the audio tour of the house. And the behavior of that employee was unprofessional. Instead of encouraging the history and knowledge of the house, which we were all clearly interested in, she instead made us all feel unwelcomed, rushed, and unwanted. If you want to sell these expensive tickets at 9pm, you should let people enjoy the house and not feel rushed. What started on a great, magical note went sour by the end of the tour.

These people are ridiculous.

Now they started charging $85 per person just to get inside the property and being able to spend money in their shop. Lol. These people are sucking money anyway they can get it. So if you got a family of 4 in a car, you pay $340 just to drive around inside the property. Bizarre!!!

Great visit in January! Low crowds.

Biltmore Solo

Allow time! You can’t rush by the details of this… One -of -a- kind artwork… serious architecture… formal gardens… immense entertaining space.. all here!
Note the cranking system to open the windows of the Winter Room…
I would suggest if you are the inquisitive type invest in the guided tour but the other option with the oversized talking beeper works well too.
A little pricey with quite a few steps but worth the effort!

Impressive from top to bottom

My family has been again and again and again. This time, we took our SIL and his family. My SIL had never been and loved it, his mom had never been at night at Christmas for the candlelight tour and she loved it. There is just something special about seeing Biltmore estate at night in Dec.31 lavishly decorated the home. Reservations were made online and i called to make sure that I had bought the right tickets as they did not mention the candlelight tour. The rude lady said I had the right tickets. A few days before the trip I called back just to confirm because something just didn't seem right and I had NOT bought the right tickets. I had only purchase the grounds and estate. I needed to pay additional 128.00 (6 tickets) for the candlelight entry. Not a problem and SO worth it. The kind gentleman I spoke with, upgraded our tickets immediately and we could go on the self guided grounds tour at 430, but our entry time for the evening was for 9:15p.m. We got there around 8:30 and they let us in which surprised us. The employee at the entrance announces that you can go on it. They scanned our ticket and you will use this ticket for the next day also. So for 6 people with the candlelight it was around 728.00. The gift shops are not terribly expensive and they had all their Christmas ornaments on sale. (Kurt Adler ornaments were 9.00ish). You can also take photos inside Biltmore (flash less photography). Back in the day, you could not take photos. Wear comfy shoes, lots of stairs to climb, I froze even with a coat, gloves and hat but most people seemed to be okay with just a coat. There is music in the garden room and one other room at the house at night. The day tour there is no music. you can take your time and look all you want. I suggest in every room start with the ceiling-some are painted, sculptured etc. Then go to the trim, walls (some are silk, tapestries, embossed leather etc.). The furniture is magnificent and detailed with hand carvings. The doors are massive. You can spend all day here, the gardens are dead but in the spring is the best time to see that.

Transportation Nightmare

A beautiful property BUT if you do not have a car it is impossible to navigate. We had bought our tickets based on the fact there was shuttle between locations. However, the shuttles were only working between the parking and the Estate. Part of the experience is Antler Village and a free wine tasting that was impossible to do. After a few phone calls no-one really knew how we should proceed as they do not like to allow taxi/Uber rides in the property unless they are dropping off or picking up. We needed to get from Antler Village to the Estate which was not possible. Having paid for $$$ for NON-refundable tickets the only way to not lose the experience was to hire a private car to take us through (which cost close to the house and ground tickets).

Nothing short of amazing!!

The Biltmore House in Asheville, NC is nothing short of amazing!! Possibly the most amazing residential architectural accomplishments in North America. Its spectacular, awe-inspiring, beautiful, impressive and an absolute must see. We did not encounter a staff member of the Biltmore House that wasn't caring, proud, well trained and attentive. Experiencing the Biltmore, it's grounds and gardens has quickly become top-of-the-list!

Just OK

Terribly understaffed in fall especially Sunday. You’ll find long long lines in winery sample room. Because most of it closed and only ONE poor soul at each bar. Bars could easily handle 3 workers. I’d say more than half of sample area closed. Very sad. But saved a fortune not buying there over rated wine. I’d say restaurants were understaffed and eater slow. Save money eat and drink elsewhere or bring your own.

Lovely stay at Inn at Biltmore. Stayed 2 nights on Chateaux tier level. Excellent concierge care from Maye and Frank, check in with Molly, bellhop and van service with Jim, Aaron and Bob. Teresea, Erica and others in the dinging room provided excellent service, food was fabulous. Did 2-hour tour of the Biltmore, 1.5 hour at Chihuly and wine tasting. Wonderful trip!

Not to be missed!

We toured the Biltmore during our recent trip to North Carolina. It truly is a spectacular estate and is well worth seeing. It reminded me at the Palace of Versailles in France. We also did some wine tasting of the Biltmore wines.

Fun, holiday vacation at Biltmore Estates

A wonderful vacation site. The Christmas Candlelight tour was an enjoyable evening. Music, lights, decorations- so festive. The carriage ride was fun, with Mia giving an overview of the grounds. The beautiful romantic stone lighted wine cellar tunnel was a fun experience. The outside gardens were absent of flowers this time of year, but the breath-taking layout was interesting to walk through. The plant conservatory was beautiful. All staff was pleasant, happy & eager to help the visitors. So glad we made this trip- it was a terrific kick-off to the holiday season.

A must visit for everyone!

Lovely visit. Everyone is extremely nice and very knowledgeable. Look for the turtles loved by Mrs. Vanderbilt. Parking and shuttle nicely accommodating! All views are amazing.

Get Blown Away by the Gilded Age of time.

Amazing; Historical; A Step into the past and truly a Gilded Age. It is a place where you would want to visit more than once. Especially during the Holiday Season. There is a Hotel and Winery on-site. So much to do. Take a ride on a bike trail. Spend some time getting away from the hustle and bustle of life. To re-new your mind and appreciate nature and all its glory. Love to visit in the Fall season when the trees are different colors.

Beautiful home

Beautiful home! Crazy to see how rich people live. This was my second time to come and hubby's 3rd but we brought our kids this time and can't give 5 stars because of all the things we did NOT get to see this time. Several rooms in tour had nothing in them but ladders and workers all over the place dusting and cleaning. We paid $90/person for this tour and that should all be done when the tour are not going on. The gift shop, Christmas shop, bookstore, and toy store are very nice. It's nice how you can walk at your own pace on the tour. The conservatory/greenhouse is nice. Always beautiful flowers and plants.

Biltmore is Beautiful

Amazing experience & atmosphere to see Biltmore during Christmas! A bit pricey but snagged a deal during a sale and was worth it! Not terribly crowded on a week day, I imagine the weekend is busier! Highly recommend checking out the lagoon… the far end on a still day reflects the back of the Biltmore house in the water!! Also a waterfall to see on the drive from the house towards the lagoon that’s worth stopping by! Food was fairly reasonably priced & delicious. Winery was great! Definitely do the complementary wine tasting - the line can be long so ensure time for that. Dinner on site was a bit pricey but good food- some places require reservation but can also do walk ins.
