1 of 22 Best Attractions in Wimberley

Blue Hole Regional Park is located off of Old Kyle Road (the entrance is just after passing a cemetery) a few blocks from Wimberley Square, the town center. Of course, this is the crown jewel of all the Wimberley Parks. Beyond the iconic swimming hole (located at Jacob's well natural area), it includes 3,5 miles of trails, picnic area, a community pavilion, playscape, basketball court, sand volleyball court and an amphitheater.
While there is plenty to do outside of the water, the swimming area is the true attraction of the park. Towering cypress trees overhang the banks of the chilly natural spring- fed Cypress Creek to crate the perfect to beat the heat in summer time. Reservations are required to swim. We visited this park at the end of April and the park was quiet and deserted, we could enjoy nature, but soon in May swimming will begin and there will be noise and laughter!! Open daily 8am - 8 pm.

Now a city park. There's an admission fee during the summer, when swimming is allowed, but it's free most of the year. Beautiful, clear water under the cypress tress with a large green, grassy area for lounging.

I booked reservations for this park for the last day of our vacation in Wimberley. My family & I loved the park. The water however was much to cold for my liking and I swim at springs frequently in my area. I could not get in past my waist but my husband and kids enjoyed jumping in from the rope swings. Although it was crowded everyone had sufficient space. Glad that we checked out this beautiful park.

The swimming hole is truly beautiful and fun on a hot day. It is surrounded by a large park with many, many walking trails. You can walk for miles here, through hill-country trees and open land. It's accessible by a long walking/biking trail that starts way up north of Wimberley near Woodcreek. I think there's also a walking trail from the area of Wimberley square.

I've been visiting Wimberley for years and had never been to the park.
There is so much more than just the swimming hole, but that's what we went there for.
We needed to take the Grand Kids somewhere and entertain them a bit, and I had heard this is a great spot for swimming. We looked it up and saw that reservations were "Suggested". I suggest you make them ahead of time too.
They limit the number of people, so that it's not over run.
The only thing I found not so great was that if I wanted to accompany the kids, I had to pay to swim too, even though I was just sitting around on the lawn. Luckily I'm an old fart, so they charged me the old fart rate.
Oh, and parking could be better... You might have to walk a bit, but it's okay.

Went here today with the kids. It's great fun, not crowded, and the water wasn't as cold as I was anticipating! Lots to do and look at, and lots of shade for the hot days. Tubes are fun to take, and the rope swing is awesome - my kids did not want to leave at the end of our reservation time! I definitely recommend water shoes but they're not 100% necessary. I would absolutely come here again.

Girls trip.
Cold fresh water, smooth river rocks, clear water. Fun place to hang for a couple hours
Sorry, no pics. Left my phone in the car. But the water was pretty and blue

beautiful park to walk the dogs, look at nature. I don't swim there, but I love to enjoy the outdoors and have a great walk.

Very pretty place. Nice paths. Closed to swimmers during the winter but it's a peaceful place to visit.

My wife and I decided to check out this park as the #2 Things To Do on Trip Advisor. Wow, it is beautiful and well maintained. Great to walk around and take pics! Also a good place to picnic and eat Wimberley Pies. I bet the outdoor concerts are the best. We’ll be back.

Clean, green, mostly shaded. The swimming hole is clean with deep and shallow areas and two rope (chain) swings - a low one and a higher one. There is a large grass area and multiple concrete picnic tables with stone benches. It's a good thing they limit the number of they let in so it's full but not crowded. Got there at 930 (opens at 10) on labor day and was able to get in no problem. Friends arrived just after ten and also got in. Some days are busier than others. Will go back.

The Blue Hole swimming area is nice, quiet and relaxing. The water is cool, clear and there is plenty of room to swim around. Admittance is limited so it doesn't get to crowded. Lots of shady areas. The rope swing is fun, bring tubes to float in and plenty of drinks & snacks. Reservations are required!!!

Wimberly Market Days. We’ll organized. Plenty of booths along meandering paths. $10 parking donation. We had a good time.

We weren't sure if this was going to be worth the drive with our young toddlers (15 months old), but it was a blast! We went with 12 family members (age 1 - 70) and everyone had a great time. We went on a Monday and it wasn't too crowded at all. Loved the swings and explored down the river to find lots of fun little waterfalls. Water is crystal clear, very clean bathrooms and beautifully kept grounds. Take a picnic and wear flip flops/water shoes for the rock bottom. The town of Wimberly had some adorable shops as well to explore. Definitely go!!

Great time swimming at Blue Hole! Our party ranged in ages from preschoolers to teens to adults- everyone had a fun time at the Blue Hole! The water was beautiful, though cold, and shaded by a cypress tree canopy. There was a shallow area where little ones could stand. Deeper sections to float in tubes or do the rope swings. Park reservation max did not make it feel too crowded- families stayed in their own groups. Recommend for a picturesque Blanco River swimming spot!

Incredible shaded cold blue pool area on the river. It doesn't get overcrowded because it's by reservation only. The grassy area also shaded bring a picnic (or by one in the town square in Wimberley) and all the inflatables you want for that frigid pool...fun, clear, kid friendly. Can't wait to return.

We loved the crystal clear water which reflects and sky and appears to be blue. The bald cypress trees growing along the banks of this creek are also very lovely. Because we were here in March, we almost had the place to ourselves. The gatehouse was closed and there was no charge to spend time in the park I think that in summer there is a charge to swim. After spending time relaxing along the creek, we hiked in the adjoining woods. Definitely a great way to spend time and get exercise.

We visited hoping to get fall photos at the Blue Hole and did a little wandering around the park. It has a hiking trail, community meeting area, recreational area, soccer fields all wrapped up into a beautiful setting off the main drag in Wimberley. The hot months bring crowds for the cool spring water, so visit in the summer to cool off knowing you will most likely not able to have a quiet time.

Visited whilst on a weeks vacation for the COTA F1. Great location but it was just an shame that it was closed for swimming. The water was crystal clear and it looked so inviting. Temperatures still in the mid eighties in late October and a dip in the cool waters would have been welcome.

Must see. Gorgeous!! Short walk. Space on grass fairly limited. Bring tubes! Park staff extremely friendly. Smiling. Welcoming! We loved it.

My daughter invited me to go to the blue hole for a walk. The park was much different than I remembered from several years back. There are now paved side walks leading down to the water and mulch trails up in the woods. We took a nice stroll to see the fish in the water and then up into the woods where we found interesting trail markers and creek beds. It took us about an hour to walk a large circle. The water was not open for swimming when we were there. It was still cool outside.

You can get lost in the trails and really connect with nature. Although my pup wasn't allowed near the water we had a nice view from the trail.

Our family loves the Blue Hole! I have been coming to Blue Hole for 40 years and it has changed so much. One of the highlights of Wimberley. We take out of town guests to show off this jewel in the Hill Country.

Because you must have a reservation, the swimming hole does not have too many people. Gorgeous area, cold water and a pleasant vibe! Make sure you bring something to sit on when you get out of the water. Not much grass left due to foot traffic.

We attended one of the free concerts which featured 2 sisters. Unfortunately, my brain has misplaced their name. They were great however and we were impressed with the quality of the music and the beauty of the venue. A must do in late spring!

This is a sweet piece of Texas and what makes Austin and the Hill Country so appealing. A beautiful landscape, the gnarled trees, the pristine River, in this case Cypress Creek, perfect for swimming and picnicking. It is necessary to arrive early to insure entrance as it is controlled capacity. It probably works well for two shifts, morning and afternoon, but we have been when it was to capacity and had to trundle back home very disappointed. A lovely well maintained watering hole.

Nice quite park when we visited bc swimming season has not started. No entrance fees unless you swim. Paved walking path down & along creek. Big trees with swing rope into the clear water. Some picnic tables to enjoy longer stay. We ventured further on the walking trails & were all in shade. Wonderful effort on the town to save this piece of land as a park for the community to enjoy vs being developed out.

Me and my husband stopped here for a swim and picknick before heading towards Wimberley for a romantic stay. We had a fun time here, not too big but not too small, just enough to relax and have a swim. There were a couple of rope swings and green grass everywhere to sunbathe or play with kids. There were shallow areas and deep areas to swim. Also lots of trees for shade, very easy to enjoy.

A well maintained park with interesting architecture tire and trails. Our main interest in visiting was the swim hole as the heat index hovered around 110°.
The swim hole ranges from 2’ to 12’+. 30’ trees rise from the waters edge and provide attractive shade and canopy. There isn’t much current so swimming or floating are both desirable. In addition, the water is exceptionally clear and cool.
I would highly recommend this for families and children. If your looking for a spot to relax and be in peace this is not it. Flicks of children will fill the area with noise, screams, laughs etc. (much like a busy public pool)

Beautiful place! The waters of the river are clean and definitely a place I would like to visit during the 100 degree Texas summers. The walking paths/trails are easy to moderate in difficulty and are good in size and marked clearly. Just note that dogs are not allowed down to the river/pools (Unless they are are service animal)

I have wanted to visit for a long time and finally stopped in. Extremely busy during swimming season, but I came and had this gorgeous place to myself! Highly recommend!

We've been here a couple of times and love this spot. Perfect for those hot Texas summer days. Bring a float and just chill in the cool water and shade.

This is worth visiting on the summer! During winter (now through April) is still closed. The place is beautiful and just breathtaking! The water is super cool looking, I couldn’t believe this was Texas!!

Clean clear water, beautiful cypress lined creek with fun for the whole family. Well maintained park with hiking and biking trails.

We loved this park! We went in late November so there was no crowd. The water is so beautiful and reflects the enormous surrounding trees. It was so peaceful and just gorgeous! There are stone picnic tables, a huge grassy area, lots of stone walking areas. In another part of the park are soccer fields and a playground but the gem of the park is in the Blue Hole area. There is no admission during the winter season but it is required in the on season.

This is a great place for hiking, exploring, and swimming! My husband and I walked a pretty good ways through this park. There are many of different trails through out!

This was a fun one-time visit to experience a Texas natural water hole. The area is not very big, so it is a good thing that visitors are limited and reservations are required. The "grassy" area is pretty worn down. We are glad we went, but don't need to go back again. You should do it once. Go early or you may have to walk an extra distance for parking.

One of the highlights of our recent anniversary trip was to visit the Blue Hole Park. What a wonderful treasure that the folks in Wimberley have preserved. You must secure a pass from the city recreation department but its well worth it. We floated in the magnificently clear blue-green water for about 3.5 hours and will always remember this spot as being special. Its very cool but you get used to it quickly, especially on a hot summer day. Will definitely try to enjoy this special place again!

A wonderful place to stop in - but it gets crowded. Read up on reservations needed - sometimes even if you do not want to swim.

excellent right outside of Austin. Enjoyed the watering hole. The pool was closed the day we went.
Water was refreshing. Rocks are kind of slippery- wear water shoes. rope swing was in constant use. Waterfall picture were nice.

This is our favorite swimming hole out of all the ones we've been to in Texas! We've done both half day and all day reservations, and you really can't go wrong with either. The water is clear and refreshing, and the rope swings provide tons of fun! We've rented the tables in the past and taken food to make it an all day adventure. Blue Hole will continue to be our go to to beat this summer heat!

Went for a morning session. A good amount of people were there but not overly crowded. The swings into the creek were definitely fun, and the clear water with some fish was also neat. Would bring some snorkels if I came with the kids.
Water is chilly though on a hot day it works out perfectly.

We stopped in while we were touring the area and were very impressed with the park and inviting pool! Unfortunately the pool was in resting mode closed for the season, Had a nice chat with a couple of the friendly staff, who were more than willing to answer our questions. The community has done an excellent job of this whole area!

We enjoyed our trip to the Blue Hole Park in Wimberley during the off season so there weren't many people there and the park wasn't open yet for swimming. The park is well laid out with a lawn and picnic area, a stage for what I assume are summer music performances, swings/trees for jumping and swimming out over the river and several wooded trails for easy hiking. We were able to enjoy the beautiful scenery both on the river and walking the park trails and I think it would be a nice place to have a summer picnic near the water.

A beautiful spot for a swim, although it's said that the owner of nearby land has allowed no trespassing signs to be posted all over the rocks!

Get there early to ensure a spot in on the lawn. Water is freezing (the majority of the creek in this location is heavily shaded). Rope swings and shallow entry-- bring water shoes. Lots of fun to be had here!

A really fun time for kids! The water is cool and the bottom is rocky so bring your water shoes! This place has become a tradition in our family for a picnic and a day of swinging out and dropping into the cool water on a hot day!

Our transplanted Texas family is hitting a few swimming holes on a quick jaunt back through the state. We made it a point to visit Blue Hole this morning since we'd never been. We love that Wimberley saved it from developers. We were very grateful for the tips to arrive early from other travelers, so we arrived at 9:30 AM on a Friday and were about the 100th people in line. They closed it at capacity before 11 today.
Blue Hole is truly a lovely spot--clear water in the shadow of cypress trees--and we enjoyed a quick dip and the swings. But after an hour, we were ready to go-- there were so many people, it didn't have the relaxing feel we prefer. I'm not sure why it's the "most famous" in Texas!
If you are not a great plan ahead-er, or prefer quieter swims, this is skippable in my view. There are plenty of other memorable spots in the area! If you go, bring chairs, lots of towels or blankets to spread on the grass, a cooler, and do arrive early!

We spent a long weekend in Wimberley in May. We were basically the only ones in the park. Fun stroll . I'm sure it's crazy in the summer with swimmers but if you go off season, you won't be disappointed !

We expected to wait in a long line based on the reviews we read here. We arrived at 9:20am (gates open at 10am) and we were the first ones there. We visited on a Monday in July and anyone that arrived at the 10am opening would have gotten in with ease. That being said, getting there at 9:20am meant that we could pick our place (there are a few natural tables on the property; we were able to snag one close to the water) and we got to pick the best chain swing into the water. Everyone had a blast! Staff is very friendly and helpful. If you have little ones that need to stand in shallow water, I would definitely bring water shoes. The shallow area is beautiful but filled with rocks. The swimming hole is exquisite (pictures don't do it justice). An artist was positioned with his easel in the middle of the shallow end, painting, when we were there. The tree canopy shades the area, which makes it pleasant even on a hot, Texas July day.

We were on our way back from Jacob’s Well last summer when we stopped in a local sandwich shop. We got to talking to some of the locals that said Blue Hole was way better than Jacob’s Well. We finally got to make the trip this year and they were right! It is beautiful area with even space that everyone could spread their stuff out and had room to swim around. The swinging ropes from the trees made it extra fun! The creek is shaded as well so it makes for a great place for pictures and not get sunburned.

My husband, a friend and I went to Blue Hole Regional Park in February. We were very pleasantly surprised at the 126-acre park along Cypress Creek. It has about 3.5 miles of hiking trails, picnic areas, a community pavilion, playscape, basketball court, sand volleyball court, amphitheater, and the Blue Hole Swimming Area. The swimming area was beautiful. Swimming is allowed during summer months and there is a fee during the summer. Be aware they might start a reservation system this year to keep the crowds down. Go to CityOfWimberley web site for more information (cost & rules). We will be back for sure.

Everyone who works there is very nice and helpful! They have rope swings which you can't find anywhere else along the River.

Before visiting Wimberley I check to see what parks they had in the vicinity and found this one. So that was our first stop late morning before it got to hot.
It is a short distance from the main square to the turn off and a sign indicates the turn. Then a short drive to the parking lot which is not very large but there were a few spaces left.
From there you can get on the main trail and we stopped in at the first building and noticed it had a sign for tickets.
Curious we stopped to find out and were asked if we had reservations. We told the attendant that we were just going to walk the nature trails and she indicated a path to the overlook to see the swimming hole.
We found the overlook easily and it was a nice view of the creek swimming area which also had a nice large green lawn area that people had picnic blankets laid out in different areas. This was allowing some social distancing for this type of activity.
There were also stone picnic tables so assumed you have to make reservations to go to that area but not sure about cost or time limit and such.
I checked online but didn't find it on the website.
It is a nice area though to relax and enjoy the river.
We continued on our way down the nature trails which are marked well with signage and go in many directions.
We wound around to a small playground area which had restrooms and more picnic tables but this was all closed due to the COVID at present.
Further around was a soccer field and more picnic tables and more trails.
The trails are wide and mulched so easy walking with an ample amount of shade.
We will definitely go back here when visiting this area as it is a good way to get some quiet exercise.

Blue Hole is everything you've read that it can be. It's been featured in the Smithsonian and National Geographic. Of course with these features comes notoriety, which makes for crowds during the summer months. They do charge a fee and limit the number of people to protect the area. If you visit Wimberley in the off season, it's a beautiful place to go have a nice picnic and enjoy the serene scenic nature and this is pretty much anytime between October to April. The water does maintain a 68 degrees because it is spring fed. Keep in mind this is nature at it's finest so if you're looking for big city perfection, go to the big city. :)

Take a lunch and make an afternoon of it. Try to go when it's warm so you can go for a swim in the nice cool water.

Fun to stop, see and take pictures, but no swimming until May! Looks like you can climb the tree and swing off the rope. Maybe next trip to Texas

It was a beautiful swimming hole with great rope swings and shaded buy beautiful trees. However there were super long lines to get in and it was quite crowded. Great for families with children. You can bring floaties and a picnic lunch.

This is a fantastic place to walk a number of trails. You rarely even see another person, at least not during the week. We haven't experienced the Blue Hole Swimming area yet. I'm confident that will be very crowded during the summer months.

it was a little cool during our visit and swimming wasn't an option but that didn't stop us from enjoying the beautifully clear water and natural beauty around us.

The hole itself is stunningly beautiful, and the park has a great network of trails to walk. Nature at its finest!

We have been going here for years. We are so glad it was taken over by the city and improved tremendously.

Way too many people. Thought since charging a entrance fee that the number allowed would be reasonable, but not so.......or didn’t seem to be. Picnic table that also had to be paid to reserve was in the sun.....although there were trees and shade nearer the water. Water was very cool, which was a plus, but hard to get onto water as many decided to set their chairs there.

I recommend calling before driving out there. They were great answering the phone and estimating when will be less busy time to come. They only allow 250 people at a time and max out quickly. So you wait in line for other people to leave and they allow more people every hour or two. We were told to come at 3. we got there around 3 20 and were too late and had to wait till 430. Around 5:30 we were asked to pack up and leave by 6. Swimming itself is refreshing but area is not big. The only reason it works for 250 people is because most people just hangout on the grass. If all got in it would have been very tight.

The family and I really enjoyed this place. It is actually a river your swimming in. The water is cold but refreshing, especially on a hot day. There are two chains that you can swing from to drop into the water, very fun. The crowd is controlled to go in so it isn't overly crowded, which is nice. We went at 1p and stayed till 3p. We will definitely go back.

A very nice park. Very well kept up. There are stone tables and benches to sit on to one side of the park. Bathrooms and changing rooms. There are docks to dive from and a tree swings. The water is very refreshing but cold! Once your in though it's not so bad. I loved how clear the water is. The vegetation surrounding it is so gorgeous. There are several huge trees that you can tell are very old. It makes for a great day to go swimming. There isn't a life guard on duty but there is a more shallow area for the smaller kids but you will still need to keep a watchful eye. It's not very expensive to get in either. Overall a good experience. Would love to visit again.

Hubby and I came here after visiting Jacob's Well and we had a lovely time. I had to take a star/bubble off bc it's pretty pricey to get in. We got there a few minutes before 5pm; since they close at 6pm, we only had an hour to spend there and we had to pay full price. A bit ridiculous.
Other than that, the area is very nice. Water wasn't freezing, the swinging ropes were cool, and the green space is great. If you're in wimberley, I would definitely stop here.
Side note: it was at all busy when we went, so I'm sure that made things 80% nicer had it been crowded.

Bang in the middle of the township, this is a must visit place, whether you are starting you day along the trails (running/biking) or relaxing after a long day (dipping you feet in the cool waters) as was the case with us, this is a perfect spot for it all. Do not miss it- the source of the blue-green water here is Jacob's well located only a few miles away. Swimming season starts mid May - i can only imagine this location will be teeming full of people then.

While the Blue Hole is not open to swimming right now, it was still a beautiful, tranquil stop on our visit to Wimberley.

Took a side trip in January to see this area attraction. Got in for free because of off season but would not pay the price if in season. Considered one of Texas swimming holes but not for a retired couple. It is however a very pretty unique place to see. If you have plenty of time and curious like us then it’s worth the stop.

This park is a sapphire gem of a treasure. There's shallow wading areas, chain swings to splash into deep spots, and a wide slow moving spot for floating peacefully. The water feels remarkable and the cypres trees are majical to watch sunlight through.

We were the in mid September. Still warm, but swimming hole was closed for the season. The park is very nice but you can see it all in 15 minutes.

So the first time we went, they were closed due to the weather before. Second time we made it out, we got to swim for a bit but the water was freezing and our son was shivering. So we tried it again this year, we booked ahead of time on line so that we were insured entrance. We did the early morning in when the weather was 95 and rising. Perfect. We swam for four hours and had a great time. It was quite the people were kind and my son was able to do the rope swing at least 20+ times. He had a great time. Nice and quite and very clean.

We tried to visit the blue hole in May 2020. We were given a time slot and paid for my whole family to go. The park closed and we were told by staff we could return anytime In the 2020 Season to use our “rain check” tickets. We came back to Wimberley at the end of July 2020 and rented a house so we could go to the Blue Hole. Tried to schedule our rain check ahead of time, before we even got to Wimberley, and were DENIED, saying their slots were full. Come back anytime huh? I called the office again and a male employee on the phone stated to me there were no supervisors to talk to and nothing we could do about it. I then found the cell phone number for the City of Wimberley Parks and Rec department head and called. I got his voicemail every single time I called. I left a nice message requesting he call me back, but never got a return phone call! Now we are here in Wimberley, can’t go AND the city is banking our money... Have no way to get ahold of anyone and no way to get our money back. What a ripoff! City of Wimberley Parks Department should return phone calls and reserve slots for rain check customers!

I have lived in Austin for nearly 2 years and have always meant to make it out to Wimberley's Blue Hole, this month I finally did! I brought along my 6 year old daughter, my sister, her husband and their 2 year old son. The kids absolutely loved it. The water was a tad cold, but on a hot summer day its refreshing. The lines to swing on the rope into the water can be long but it does shorten at times. My only complaint is you can't bring any alcohol and the area to put your stuff is small if there is a big crowd. Other than that, it's definitely worth a trip!

The dogs weren't allowed near the actual blue hole swimming area but they are on the nature trails. It was beautiful and they really seemed to enjoy themselves. Definitely recommend for a private and peaceful walk. The blue hole was very pretty but swimming wasn't allowed in March.

Our first day of vacation we decided to go to blue hole. The water was gorgeous! The boys were trying to catch fish by hand. Had a good time swinging from the ring. They were also excited about the hills. Which we don't have back home. They asked to ride their scooters down. I said yes after I saw others with skate boards. Bad idea! Not long after one was coming back without the other. My teenage son must have hit a rock or something and flew off. His head was bleeding and he didn't know where he was, how he got there, what he had for breakfast, or anything. Needless to say our beautiful day was abruptly shortened for a trip to the hospital. He ended up with a serious concussion and could have no sports or activity for 6 weeks. So as far as rides down the hill that you may want to rethink. But the rest the park, the water, and the staff were GREAT! Just so sad it had to end that way and that we didn't get to enjoy the rest of our day. We made the trip back just for this place. But now we'll have to make another!

We always enjoy walking here on the trails. Unfortunately, the rates to swim here are a bit outrageous in my opinion, and this year, they sold out!

When in Wimberley/TX Hillcountry ,especially with children in the summer, don't miss this great swimming hole/park! Rope swings hanging from giant cypress trees shading the cool spring fed Cypress Creek make this the ideal family picnic spot.

TIP: Get here early! We arrived early, got a great parking spot, stood in line about 10mins then the park openned and they checked everyone in rather quickly. The park is very clean and well manicured. We pick a lawn spot and then got in the water, slowly. Great for a few hours of fun, relaxation, and cooling off as well as catching some rays! TIP: wear aqua-slip-on shoes it will make walking in the river easier.

Great place to take a break from triple-digit summer heat! Shaded, cool spring fed swimming hole and clean, well maintained facility. The water entrances are a little rustic though do to the cypress bank profile, but a great old-fashioned swimming hole. Since the city park manages access it is not too crowded and a great place for all ages and families to take a cool swim or swing into one of the deeper holes.

We got there early, after reading all the reviews, on a Monday. We had time to explore the park a little. They have an amphitheater and an overlook. All made out of stones it was alot of fun walking around. They let us in a little after 10 but we talked to some of the other guests. Everyone was so friendly and from all over Texas. There is a lot of shallow water for the young ones. 2 rope swings, younger kids hung out at one and the other was for the bigger kids, it was deeper at the second one. The water was very refreshing, cool and so clean! You can see the bottom of the spring. We floated down to the end. Such an amazing place! There were tables and a lot of space for picnicking, baseball, just laying around. It's now one of my favorite Texas places to go.

It was a great place to go. The water was so cold because it's a spring Fed creek. The water is crystal clear and it's a good place to take your kids to swim. There is a fee to get in but it's worth it. You can take your chairs and coolers and there's swings to swing out in the deeper water. A fun experience.

August is very hot in Texas. The Blue Hole is quite shaded and really does not feel hot. The water is cool and refreshing to take a dip. Bring a picnic. Get there a bit before they open. The kids love it and love the rope swing. There are some picnic tables/benches but if they are taken, a good idea to bring a blanket and chairs for the lawn.

The kids really enjoyed this nice shady park. It’s a short walk from the parking area to the swimming hole. There are lots of ants so do not bring food, and bring something to sit on. The water is nice and cool. There are two rope swings that let out into deep water, but the rest of the area is shallow enough for even small kids.

We had the opportunity to take a look when the place was closed to swimmers. It is beautiful! The water is so clear, and the limestone bottom makes it a beautiful turquoise blue. I'm sure the place is packed with swimmers in the summer.

very clean and nice area, but be warned, the water is very cold! Only downside were the tremendous amount of ants!

My wife and I recently explored Blue Hole Regional Park and found it to be quite enjoyable. There is lots to see, explore and do in this park. Outside of the swimming area at the "Blue Hole" itself, the park is free to all the trails. The swimming area is nice for families as it has a low end and gentle grade into deeper water for swinging off the Cypress trees into. Leading to the Cypress Creek is a grass area to spread out on and also tables and places to sit put in place. We did notice a lot of small ants on the walkways, but weren't bothered by them, but again we weren't there for too too long. The trails are both hard trails and mulch trails and intertwine nicely to customize any walk you'd like. Free parking and access to all areas is easy and would recommend for a day or half day adventure here. Clearly the locals know the park and utilize it, which is great to see as it is a beautiful park.

Amazing place to cool down on a hot summer day!!! Park limited to number of guests admitted but staff very good at giving you updates. Nice picnic area to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

Great park. Lots of facilities. A beautiful spot to exercise or just relax in the woods. Take time and enjoy

We are gonna make this a yearly trip. A few hours from Houston and DFW the blue hole provides an ice cold swim even during the hottest Texas Hill country days. You go from walking in ankle deep crystal clear water to swinging out on the swing to drop into the 15' foot chilling water. Bring a roller cooler and pack picnic. Plan be there at opening as there will be a capacity limit and you may be asked to return. Beautiful B and Bs and antiques in Wimberly are a must.

Very peaceful and beautifully well kept park. Great hiking trails for a short hike. Something to do for a couple of hours. Blue hole was crystal clear when we were there and loaded with fish.

We went here over Memorial Day weekend. Reservations are required ahead of time to guarantee entrance. We saw several groups being turned away. They have perfected the numbers, it was maxed out and still didn't feel too crowded. People had huge floats in the water and it was still roomy. The shallow end stays more crowded. Even at the end of the day, the water, though foggy, was still mostly clear. The actual park is beautiful. Nice paths. Bathrooms with changing areas. It was almost 100 degrees the day we were there and in the shade it was still lovely. If you don't get there right at your entrance time, you may want to bring a tent, the shaded spots went fast. Water is pretty cool/cold and stays that way from the spring. We chose the afternoon time slot (2-6pm) and it was perfect. We hope to come back many times so our kids have this as a wonderful memory. They loved the 2 tarzan swings! (so did my big kid husband) Clientele was nice too, I think charging an entrance fee keeps the place nice for families. No smoking, no loud music, no pets!

I went here with my Family which included my 4 grandchildren. The grounds were well kept, green with lots of shade trees. The water was refreshing and clean. We arrived within 10 minutes of the beginning of our morning session, of the 4 or 5 picnic tables, 2 were occupied and the other 3 were reserved. This was our first time so my daughter was not aware of the need to reserve a table. We did not need one as we brought chairs and a couple of Cillbos as well as ground cover so we were good to go. However, there are ALOT of ants! I would advise being prepared for such.
It was a very enjoyable morning!
We will return!

We got there around 12:30 and the sign said it was full and would open back up at 2pm. This was a Thursday. My impression was that if you came in the morning, you got in. At some point in the late morning they closed it off to new people until 2. One of our party waited for an hour to get tickets. There were probably 40 people waiting to get in. So, the next time I would come early in the morning or waits until about 1:30. Water was very cool. Some folks had some pop up tents for shade. There is more natural shade in the far end. Lots of grass area for the kids to run and play. We had to monitor the big swing. Some older kids were tying it up jumping off the dock while the younger kids were waiting to jump from the tree (it will make more sense when you get there). A couple of moms and one of the park folks got everyone lines out and was pretty orderly after that. I guess I would say don't be afraid to tell people to wait their turn. There is another swing for the smaller and less adventurous folks too. There was also plenty of room for floats and tubes to just hang out in the water. You can bring food and snacks and drink in. They have pretty nice bathrooms for a nature site. It was a win.

We visited blue Hole after the swimming season and found it a great spot. While there we saw engagement pictures being taken, a family having a picnic, people relaxing on benches enjoying the beauty and calm, and children playing in the green area.

Gorgeous setting. Ice cold water which felt great after zip lining adventure. The natural stone steps were a little precarious for my 72-year-old mom, But we all had a wonderful time. The large grassy area was great for picnicking and napping. In the water there is constant entertainment from kids and adults swinging on two rope swings.

Blue Hole is a wonderful place to go swim. The water is so calm and clear, and there are even tree swings to jump into the river from. There is a decent amount of space to lay out a towel and relax in the grassy area that is very clean and well kept. If you enjoy swimming, and are in Central Texas, this is a must see (experience) place. Added bonus: the drive there is extremely scenic.

A before school starts road trip with granddaughter..
The Blue Hole was at capacity last yr. when trying to visit, they allow approx. 200-250 people at any given time...get there early. Cost $8. per person for us (16-55 yr). Its a short walk kind of down hill from entry gate. A large grassy area for throwing out your towels or blankets, chairs, etc. Then there is the "hole", not very wide or very long area for swimming or I should say floating!, Two platforms for swinging out to the deep areas and jumping in. Running east to west, the east end is the shallowest. There are park staff on duty to keep everyone in order, outdoor restrooms at entrance and few "stone" tables with seating for picnics. We enjoyed...

These are great trails to hike or run. Beautiful. We saw a deer. Very close to the Square Inn where we stayed.

I had planned for years to visit here. August 18, 2016 we finally drove down for a visit we were 20 minutes out at 9 am so i called tk see if they were open. I wad very dissapointed to find out that they were closed, so we had to change our plans luckily wonder world in san marcos and the san marcos river did not close. So the start of our vacation was saved!

We went to the morning session for swimming. The park is nice, clean bathrooms. The number of people was good. The water is too chilly for me to comfortably swim, but that’s the point. So as expected. There were a lot of ants on the ground, which meant they could get into food. I would make sure you have a sealable storage container to avoid ants in your food. Water is clear, kids enjoyed swings.

On this very hot June day were the heat index was rated above 100 degrees Fahrenheit, my husband I decided to go outside anyway on our vacation! This small oasis was a blessing. You have to go online to make a reservation so the water area is not too crowed. The spot is very lush and green. There are two rope areas where the most ambitious of us (mainly tweens and teens) can swing off a Cypress tree and jump in the water. It was so fun to see the young children act so excited about their surroundings.....definitely a family place....(kids can bring goggles to see the occasional fish). The water is cold - once you get in you forget about it! Enjoy!

This is a nice park, we went off season so no swimming but wonderful shade and well maintained. We had a really nice time walking around.

Still hot in Texas when we went but the swimming hole was closed. Was beautiful. Nice outdoor space but small. People stated their were walking trails on here but we didn't find them. We were hoping to go swimming in the off season as heard this was very busy in the summer. There are some parks open in sept and October though .

Blue hole is a spring fed swimming hole lined with large cypress trees. The park has a nice grassy area for setting up chairs etc for lunch and relaxing. There are a couple of rope swings that are great fun. Just make sure you get there early before they open as they only let a specific amount of people in and then they close until people leave.
After swimming stop in to Wimberley for some food and shopping.

went early one day during the week. It was super pretty. Made memories with our family that will last a life time. Water was super clear, we saw an abundance of fish! Next time we will take some googles with.

We went during off season, so we did not have to pay or make reservations. Of course there was no swimming in March, but we can see how it would get very crowded in the summer. It’s a picturesque little watering hole, lined with beautiful bald cypress trees. However, it was much smaller than expected and almost seemed like someone’s back yard. In addition, there are a few walking trails and a small playground for the littles. The perfect place to bring a picnic and relax for a few hours.

We LOVED the Blue Hole swimming area! Yes you have to reserve, but I think that's part of what makes it so great. You're not elbow to elbow with people and can enjoy the swimming area a lot better. The water is super fresh and you're in the shade the whole time. They have two swings to jump in the water, which is pretty deep in that area. The grassy area to set up your stuff is only a few steps away. Super family friendly, absolutely loved this place and will be going back.

Wonderful park, very well cared for and beautiful area. We went for the day and plan to return to hike then swim.

This is a fun little swimming hole. The water is crisp year-round, so get ready for a chill even in the middle of summer. The chain swings are fun and some people do some pretty creative jumps. Bring chairs and an ice chest and spend the day.

My wife and I go here at least once a year, usually more, and we usually take friends with us. The drive is just a couple hours for us. The water is cold but it feels great on a hot summer day. If you go on a cloudy day you might turn blue if you stay in the water too long. Just take regular breaks to avoid that. There are two chain swings to help people get used to the water a little faster. When you first walk down to the water it looks a lot smaller than it is, and there's more room in the water than there looks as well. There's plenty for everybody to enjoy but get there early or you will be waiting in line to get in.

Looked like the place that locals go to swim, swing out from a tree limb, or just float in the water. Lots of families with picnics. You must pay to swim, but there are plenty of shaded hiking trails to walk for free. We spent about an hour there.

My wife and I visited here after lunch in Wimberley. This is a great time of year since there are no crowds. The water is crystal clear and it is easy to see lots of fish swimming around.

We arrived about 30 minutes early since only a limited number of people are allowed into the swimming area. Since we were early we were able to get a sitting area. The water was nice and cool, which was a wonderful break from the 100 degree texas weather!

Peaceful and Beautiful! Great fun for the entire Family! Clean creek with beautiful trees for shade. A variety of events throughout the year.

This is the best place to go on a hot Texas day. Very clean. Everyone is just happy to be cool! There is a nice picnic area. Great swings!

Good - cold water, swings, decent amount of grass area to set up canopy and chairs, kids had fun swimming.
Bad- price, crowded into such a small space. Only 1 non-swing entrance and rude people putting their chairs there and blocking most of the room. The most annoying thing of all, though, was the ants. Ants covered literally every inch of ground. I understand you don’t want a lot of chemicals in a park to keep it more natural, but surely there is something that could be done about the ants. I’ve camped in numerous parks around the state and never come across anything this bad.

Magical - Arrived in TX 1995 - SHAME ON ME for not checking this out earlier! On a hot day I would suggest to walk. We walked the .8 mile 84 degrees, would be tough in mid summer. "drive"

What a great park and swimming area! A local gem in Wimberley! Fun to see even though we were there before it is open for swimming. It is beautiful and Wimberley is a quaint town to stroll around in afterward.

Blue Hoke has great running trails and is still pretty cool in the winter.
We saw deer and there are miles of trails!!

This is a very lovely area. The water is beautiful and clear. So many trees keeping great shade over it. The whole park was just really pretty and fun. There was a shallow area of the spring that our toddler loved. There was also a rope for older kids, teens, adults which looked fun. There were hiking/walking trails. This was a very enjoyable area.

A quiet respite in the month of April...we were the only people walking the trail to the Blue Hole. We we told that come the warmer months, the tourist season can get crazy crowded and reservations are actually required to visit. So just a word to the wise !!!
Is it spectacular...no. Is it relaxing...yes (at least when we were there). Was it enjoyable...yes. Would I recommend it...it's of a medium level interest of a place to visit in my opinion. I would rather be at a hill country winery or at a fun and relaxing hill country restaurant and tavern. But we were in Wimberley, had the time, and took it in.

I've been in the area many times over the last 25 plus years but never visited before where I stepped into the water. Plenty of parking although the park has a limit as to how many people can access the water. Cypress trees create a canopy over the Cypress Creek which offers much shade while you are in the water. Shallow and deep areas. There are BBQ pits in the area as well as places to sunbathe away from the water. No food or drink offered. The water is cold and even in the summer, I doubt it reaches 80 degrees.

I am from Canada and visiting friends here in the area. I was told about the Blue Hole almost a year ago. So finally on the morning of July 14 2018 we got up early to meet up with others to drive almost 3 hours to get there. We got there at 8:30 in the morning. We were the first in line.
When they opened the window we got our wrist bands and headed to the park. I have to admit it is a pretty place. We had our lunch and headed to a table only to find out that they were all reserved NO WHERE did we ever see anything telling us that the tables had to be reserved. I think that is very unfair. if you want a table do like we did, get there early enough to get one. Or better still there is enough room to put in a lot more tables. What was really highly annoying is the one table went empty for the whole morning. Noting on it except the reserved sign. It should be that if you are a half our ate or more then you lose your table and it is then given to the first people in to the area.
There were 8 aduls and 5 kids in our group. With one bench to sit on. We couldn't sit on the ground because it is so infested with ants that they were crawling all over everything.
We had trash to toss and we found a total of 5 trash and recycle bins by the tables. So we had to keep walking half the area to toss anything away.
There were so many people in the park you could hardly walk without dodging them,
Also long grass and weeds right at the edge of the foot path. A snake hazard just waiting to happen. And it is hard to see your kids in the water over them. You can't get too close to where the people are getting in and out of the water to watch your kids from that area because then you are in the way of the people trying to get up or down the ladders.
It was just a very disappointing and uncomfortable visit. A place that I would not suggest to anyone to visit. Too expensive for the little that you get out of it. I am sure there are lots more places to swim.

This is a great swimming hole!!! Bring a chair or blanket to sit on. The trees are beautiful, the water is crystal clear and cool!
We all enjoyed this swimming hole!

In the early morning after the sun comes into the valley I find that walking. Into the park is so peaceful.
Birds are singing, squirrel's are jumping from tree to tree and the deer just stand in the meadow looking at me like they can't believe I'm interrupting their meal.
It's so quite you can almost hear the trees talking. The sound of Cypress Creek rushing over the rocks washes my mind. We are so fortunate to live here and be able to wake up with the valley every day. Get out and enjoy this great gift, you will be so much happier.

Went in September the actual swimming home had some type of film over it. I would have like to have swimmers the time but it was closed. Go when you can swim up till Labor Day. The cypress trees and the River was beautiful

It’s beautiful! Busy in Summer, but very peaceful in the winter. Lots of room to picnic on the lawn. There is an admission fee now in summer and they limit the time your group can swim to keep the flow moving.

If I could give more stars I would. We booked from 9am -1pm w family ranging from 5-55. It was the perfect amount of time for our group. I could have stayed all day. Plenty of shade from the cypress trees. Bring a wagon if you’re taking in a cooler, it’s a quick walk down from the checkin counter but parking might be farther depending on what time you get there. We’ll be back ASAP

This is an awesome place to visit. Locals know this is one of the key swimming spots. There are free concerts in the park during the fall with incredible acoustics. Overall just a great and unique place to spend some time and marvel at the scenery.
Great place to spend a couple of hours relaxing with friends and family.

When in town, we always visit Blue hole. Lots of trees to see. Hiking trails, nice park for families traveling with kids.

I was there mid-afternoon on a weekday so there were very few other people around. It was the perfect opportunity to just wander and sit by the creek. Definitely worth a visit.

Great place to spend a day exploring. We really recommend this place when in thearea. A great outdoor activity for the family.

Great and easy walking trail. The. blue hole is crystal clear and a great swimming area. Worth the visit..

Been there a few times, once early morning before the crowds arrived just to be able to take pictures. Just love the look of this place, prefer it when it's quiet. Be prepared to wait in summer. Love the fact that they control crowd size.

The best swimming hole around. My kiddos (boys 10 & 12) would rather go here than any water park. If you are going on a holiday weekend make sure you arrive early, like 9ish, because the park can reach capacity by 9:30 and the gates won't open until 10. Make sure you bring food, drinks, river shoes to walk in the shallow end, and all the other essentials you would want for a day in the park.

My friend and I went to the Blue Hole on a girls trip, thinking it would be this oasis away from the crowds. Wrong! They don't accept reservations for swimming. We arrived around noon and were told we needed to get in line, for the "possibility" of entry around 1pm. The line looked like it was about half a mile long. It was hot and sunny, no thanks. We headed over to the Leaning Pear, took our time lunching, and returned around 3pm. I highly recommend going later to avoid the crowds. At 3pm, we only waited about 15 minutes before gaining entry to the park. The Blue Hole was a little disappointed, as it's pretty shallow and a really small space. The water is cool and refreshing, and there are swings in trees that children and adults who are young at heart can play on. There appeared to be more shade in the afternoon on the lawn as well. It's definitely beautiful in and of itself, but it was crowded and loud, so not exactly the most "natural" experience. Getting a swimming reservation at Jacob's Well is definitely the better of the two options.

Amazing place to swim and hang out! It's fit for all ages 1- 100! I love it there! The water is clean, fresh, and cool. It is not too cold, but it's just the perfect temperature. If you have a big family I recommend you rent a table. But, it's also very good on the ground. Bring food, floats, a picnic blanket, and boom, the perfect place to hang out on a hot summer afternoon!

easy access, not too busy and refreshing cool water. Grounds are well maintained and the park puts emphasis on sustainability.

Another great Texas swimming hole! We went on a Friday about 10:45 & didn't have to wait in line. We had a good two hours without a crowd.

We were here at 10:00am. Three hours went fast. Kids have a lot of fun with the water ropes. After about two hours they started getting bored bc that is all there is to do. I would suggest a trail to be put in for an adventure walk. When they start throwing things (which is what they do) it makes it uncomfortable to nap or read for fear of being hit with an object.

Wow, we really loved the day we spent at the Blue Hole! Gorgeous blue water. A real unique place. The kids had a blast on the rope swing and even old Mom jumped off! Good old fashioned fun on a warm August day. Many people brought picnic lunches, but I hadn't thought of this!
The admission fee must pay to keep the grounds tidy. Not a stray piece of trash anywhere.
We'll be back as soon as we can!

I've been coming here for 40 years and the cooling waters and protective Cypress Trees continue to rejuvenate the soul. But, if you come in the summer, get there early and get used to the crowds. We always go before school's out or after school starts for the fall. More space and less hassle. But that wonderful window closes quickly as the swimming part of the park closes after Labor Day.

This has a beautiful crystal clear stream, decent walking trials and a scenic walk. There was not much challenger to the trails, but it was very pleasant.

Even though we went in "winter" (we're from Pittsburgh), it was a peaceful, calming place. The water wasn't blue, maybe due to the leaves having fallen in the water. A sense of the serene.

We visited Blue Hole Regional Park with our 1 year old Australian Shepherd. The main draw of the park is the Blue Hole swimming area which is a natural spring fed watering hole on Cypress Creek. There are a few swings to ride and drop into the swimming hole. The water is blue/green and thus the name. A fee is charged to access the swimming area. The rest of the park is free and contains beautifully maintained hiking/biking/jogging trails, basketball courts, playgrounds and lots of wild life. There are places you can access the creek without having to pay. Our dog loved it. We went on a May weekday and the swimming area was closed. The swimming area is only open on weekends in May up until Memorial Day. We saw a deer, many birds, fish and turtles.

Beautiful park, nice stroll by the river. Wasn't too crowded. I went during the art festival which was great - hear a band, and got to see some amazing artists.

The water was cold and felt great on a hot day. The was a spot for all ages. Even was able to explore cypress creek which feeds blue hole.

Swimmers need to make online reservations to use this beautiful space. Although it can be crowded, it is filled with adults and children having a wonderful time! Well worth a visit to cool off under the shade of ancient trees.

The trees are wonderful to look at and photograph. A nice walking path along both banks. Go late in the day if you want to swim. Though shallow, the water is cool and refreshing.

We have been to Blue Hole several times during the off season (not in summer). It is a popular swimming hole in the summer and is crowded, but when we went, we were the only ones there. It is a wide part of Cypress Creek (See Jacob's well for headwaters) and the area is beautiful with the old Cypress trees in the water. In April they have outdoor performances by musicians from Austin. There are also trails on the bluff above the river.

Great place to go for dip in the cool, clear waters or just take in the sights. Family friendly, but no pets allowed. Can get a little crowded on a hot summer weekend and they do limit how many are allowed in at a time. Recommend getting there early if you want a good shot at getting in.

Friday night we went to Blue Hole to hear the free music in the park. It happens every Friday in April. May 5 they are having a local music festival/fundraiser for Blue Hole It only costs five dollars to get in. You can bring your picnic basket and eat while you're listening to the music. No alcohol is allowed though.
Sunday we went to the Arts Fest that was held there. It ran Saturday and Sunday. There were many wonderful artists from not only Texas but New Mexico. There was food and again live music all day.
Blue Hole has soccer fields and a great playground. I have gone to a few children's birthday parties at the playground. There is plenty of space there and they do have restrooms. The park has a walking trail that goes about 4 miles one way if you want to take the total hike. Or there are smaller hikes that go off of the main trail. If you just want to picnic, there are many picnic tables around the park.
Oh, and if you want to swim, Blue Hole has a wonderful and beautiful swimming area. It is open all summer. They do limit the number of people who can get in at one time, so it is good to get there early. There is a charge to get in but you can buy season passes to save a little money. Seniors get a nice discount on the senior passes. I recommend checking their website to get more information about the cost, since it could change.
I live in Wimberley and am thrilled to have this wonderful park in our community.

Beautiful trails throughout the park for hikers. Live music in the park in April, and certain areas available for private parties. Lovely, clean facilities. What a treasure.

They control the number of people that can come in to keep the area clean and under control. This place is great.

Absolutely gorgeous! We got there when it opened at 9am & were the first ones to jump in. It’s such a beautiful area. We didn’t hike but will next time, as our friends and family spent the whole time swimming and jumping off the swings. Highly recommend to bring chairs, water shoes and floaties or tubes. We got there at 9 & left at 1 which was plenty of time! We packed a picnic for lunch and ate there.

Blue Hole is a serene little space for a quick getaway. Great place to picnic, wade in the crystal clear stream or just admire nature. It's an easy hike from the parking lot too. Just minutes from downtown Wimberley, Texas where you can find all kinds of boutique and novelty shops and some pretty decent restaurants as well.

Amazing ,amazing place with a huge potential for improvement. Austin City should understand that Blue Hole could be one of the best touristic spots in the country without exaggeration!
Reservations system is pretty “painful “ and maybe unfair but very efficient!

Blue Hole has really been transformed to be a top of the line park. Lots of trails, kids park, basketball court, beautiful river with rope swings, etc. get here by 10:30 bc the pro can get overcrowded and they will not let vehicles in after that point.

What a cool place. Well kept, clean, and beautiful. Loved the clear water, cypress trees, fish, and grounds.

I take a blanket & fried chicken with us when my grandkids come. They love it" $5.00 per head over 3 yrs. but it is a fun way to cool off in the Texas heat"

First visit to this park great fun, reservations recommended. book early visit - gets crowded later in day.

Exceptionally beautiful place. Great energy. The fact that they limit it to 200 people keeps it peaceful and stress free. We went on a Saturday in August and arrive at 9:00 AM. There were already about 20 people in line ahead of us. They let us in right before 10. Lots and lots of shaded places to set up camp right on the water. Great time and nice people. Chain swings were really fun. Great for kids and adults. Going back soon.

Texans have always known about this area with the purest, coldest spring fed river water. The Park is gorgeous with soaring trees, grass lawn and stone benches and tables. But the river is why everyone comes. The Park allows a limited number of people at a time, so be sure you come early (9:30 or so) to get your entry bracelet. Grabbing that rope, swinging out over the river and dropping into ice-cold water is an awesome thrill. Beautiful area not to be missed!

The place was easy to fine. It Was very clean and well managed... right up until we could not enter because we failed to make reservation

We happened to go 4th of July weekend so we were not able to get in at the 10am and 1pm attempts. We finally made it at 3. The scenery was picturesque and the water was cold and refreshing to swim in. Next time I will know to bring water shoes for the shallow end, a cooler, and a tube float or noodle. We loved the "rope" swings.

This place is really nice. The water is so clear and pretty. The water is cold, but on hot summer days it’s really refreshing. It’s in the shade too which makes it really nice.

This place was beautiful.I stopped by to explore the area.I can’t wait to come in the summer. The water was murky in some areas and some spot was crystal clear.

They charge money, they close early, and they won't let you in just to even look at the area if you arrive too late in the day. Make sure you come during the week so that you can have the opportunity to actually enjoy this place because they're a bit snobby at the front.

Lovely park with a pretty river. It would be super fun in the summer when you could swim.
The park is well maintained with hiking trails and parking areas.

WOW wow WOW; clean, not over-booked. Insanely beautiful gem. Great fun. We did the whole day not the half day that so many people do. Well worth the trip and nominal price. Go, you won’t regret it.

Beautiful setting, kids enjoyed the swinging and jumping into the creek. The other visitors were kind and helped our grandkids make the most of our visit.

Great place and not crowded because you need reservations to get in. You can book online. Bring yourself a picnic and chairs to sit on because there's not much furniture.

I guess I expected more from this place. It was nice but really nothing special. Packed with people. Swimming is Ok, water and surroundings were pretty, but nothing to write home about. Need to bring own chairs if you want to sit. Water was not blue or clear.

We drove down from Dripping Springs and I'm so glad we did. It was lovely! We went on the off season so we didn't have to pay. The whole experience is gorgeous. We went along the water, then took the trails at the top. I wish we would have packed a lunch and stayed longer.

I've been going here since the 80's and it just gets better. They have a new reservation system in place this year - you can create an account by following a link on their face book page"Blue Hole Regional Park". You book 9 - 1 or 2 - 6. Kids to 3 are free, then up to age 12 is $6 and over 12 is $10. They sell a yearly pass which enables you to go without a reservation. Kid passes are $50 and adult passes are $90. Very nice clean restrooms with showers. Beautiful hiking paths. Nice kids play area that they're working on putting a shade over. No alcohol is allowed - it's a very family oriented place. No fishing or pets in swimming area either. Staff is wonderful and friendly - if you have concerns or need to report problems, they're on it immediately. You can reserve a picnic table online too for an extra fee. Nice grassy areas to put a blanket down. We take a cooler with water & a picnic, chairs, and floats. The water is COLD, clear, and a lovely blue green shade. Very refreshing in this summer heat. There's a rope swing & platform to swing off into the water - the kids love it - have seen a few adults, too. I'd recommend water shoes as the bottom is a bit rocky. And if people warn you it's slippery - heed the warnings, LOL !! They're working on fixing trails too - it's a beautiful place to hike around & not just swim.

Modern facilities with well marked and maintained trails. Hikes are easy. The swimming hole is picturesque, with incredibly clear water.

Well kept park. Very small grass area. A few picnic tables. Crystal clear water! Rope swings! One swing for little folks and one larger for the braver. Water is cold, but nice once the body adjust. Shallow from abt ankle deep to deep deep. No lifeguards. Can see fish. Clean bathrooms. Plenty of parking. We arrived at about 4:00. Kids of all ages were having a great time. $9.00 adult ticket. Great place to relax on a hot summer day!

The park was fun and clean. We arrived at 930. Line was already starting. We grabbed a spot with lots of shade. There are lots of shaded spots. My kids from 5-15 loves the cool water and jumping in. Bring a cooler with food. No showers only changing rooms and toilets. But clean. People are friendly.

Very nice place. Cowboys boot most place with different design. The park is clean, beautiful place to visit.

A nice, no fee park with beautiful clear cold waters surrounded by cypress trees. I'm sure in the summer it is crowded but during the week we had the place to ourselves.

Blue Hole never disappoints. It is such a beautiful place with lots of shade. I think it is a great idea reservations have to be made. No waiting in line and not too crowded.

Made a reservation in advance - easy enough! The park is relatively small and capping number visitors imperative. Walk from entrance to water is downhill - quick and fairly easy. Water is sweet on a hot day. Bring snacks, blankets, chairs, water socks and you are good to go. Be forewarned about pesky ants. They were everywhere. Took kids ages 11 and 13. They loved it but were embarrassed when this mom decided to swing from the rope trees. It wasn't pretty :-) While in town, we got to walk Wimberley in search of those magical boots! I would go back in a heartbeat!!

Water area closed 5/22/2020. Park with walking trails was really pretty but I hoped to at least see the river (knew swimming wouldn’t be available). River area is closed and can’t even get down to see it. Thankful that we rented an Airbnb cabin with river access on the other side of Wimberley.

The gorgeous river has a lovely path that is well maintained and you can catch the path to town along the river from here which makes for a nice short hike...we loved the quiet and beauty.

Beautiful place to visit. Great for the whole family. Unfortunately, we came during spring break from Dallas(on a Friday) and the place was “closed for a private event”. You could not get close to the water. We were not happy about it and of course we were not the only ones. At least they could clearly advertise this fact for those planning to visit.
Im not sure closing a place like this for a private event is the right thing to do...not happy about it. That said worth the visit.

Came to check out this swimming hole on a mild summer day. The temps were lower due to recent rainfall. Parking was limited and we ended up having to park along the trail so we had a bit of a walk to get to the entrance. Upon entering, we walked down to the swimming area. It's smaller than I envisioned. There is a grassy area and some picnic tables along the borders. Bring your own chair/blanket to sit on. The grassy area has spots that are in full sun. The swimming area itself is well shaded due to the beautiful cypress trees. There are 2 rope swings. One is good for younger ones. The other is better suited for older ones and those who are daredevils. The water is deep at the rope swing levels. My children loved "exploring" with their friends in the shallow end. Since there were many people swimming, the water was not very clear. There were a couple of summer camp groups when we went, so it was crowded and loud. Once the groups left, it was a peaceful place to enjoy.
We did not get a chance to check out the trails. Will definitely want to do that when the weather gets cooler. They have a Facebook page you can follow which updates you on whether max capacity has been reached throughout the day. They are super busy on weekends. This is a great place to just be a summer bum and enjoy a picnic.

We visited this place for a short time. We were not going to swim, so we were allowed to walk around. The staff was most helpful. The bathrooms were surprisingly clean. The paths made walking easy, especially for a 90 year old lady.
We would love to come back with the grandkids. Make sure to reserve your place if you want to spend time there and swim. Great spot for a picnic.

Went for the morning and loved it! You MUST buy tickets in advance. They limit the number of people that visit so that it's enjoyable. Bring an inner tube and just relax. Water is refreshing!

No wonder so many people go to Wimberly. There is so much to enjoy. The Blue Hole is right outside the madding crowds of downtown and it is a place of peace and beauty. Cypress Creek is the source of the blue water flowing through this park and the cypress trees along it add to the beauty. It is a photographer's paradise. Don't rush, but wander along and enjoy the tranquility.

Very nice place to picnic only $9.00 a person very friendly staff but a lot of kids. Water was shallow except where you swing and jump off into the water lots of fun

We had a picnic lunch and spent an afternoon swimming and floating on our tubes. The creek is shadowed by large cypress trees on both sides so there was protection from the sun. There are a couple of rope swings to enjoy and the cold water is very deep in some places. We were disappointed to learn there is NO BLUE HOLE here at this park. The actual source for this swimming area is 4 to 5 miles upstream. We thought the name and description of this park was very misleading. We still enjoyed this beautiful park and the clear water.

It’s been a few years since I’ve been here. The water is so refreshing and the swings are just as much fun as they were last time. Seems they have actually improved them. Parents, bring a ice jacket for your kiddo and a noodle for yourself. Chill and watch your kiddos jump from the rope swings a million times. It’s a great way to spend the afternoon. There is some shade. If you read the website, you’ll see they take reservations for entrance and a separate one for a picnic table. The walk is short. Bathrooms close by. You’ll need to be in the water or standing at the water to keep an eye on your kids. This isn’t a pool you can lounge beside.

It was beautiful to see, we were right around the corner anyways. It looks like an amazing place to swim around when it’s crazy hot! The water was so blue and beautiful

Great family fun but get there early or expect to have to wait until people leave and they start letting more people in. Bring chairs as there aren't many places to sit. The water is spring fed so its cold and refreshing especially in the Texas heat. Definitely worth a visit if your in the area.

One of my favorite places in Wimberley! Great for friends and family, or some alone time with a good book!

We geocached our way through this awesome park. There was lots of nice trails to visit. Plenty of parking but we were to early to swim.

Water was cold but super clear and refreshing. Very fun family adventure on a hot summer day. Recommend weak swimmers wear flotation device for deeper waters.

Very quiet, we saw several deer. The trails are very good, easy to traverse, but turns aren't really well marked. The Blue Hole is beautiful, extremely clear water and you can get to the very edge

Make reservations before coming.
or you may be disappointed. The gates close after 200 people come in. $10 to swim in cool, spring-fed water. Bring a pop-up shade, ice chest and inner tube. It's a destination.

Okay, truly 5 stars, just don't want to let the secret out. Blue Hole has been on my bucket list for a long time, and it did not disappoint. Got in line early, jumped right in and brrr! Perfectly refreshing and gorgeous, shaded water by towering cypress trees. All ages, sizes, colors, no beer, no cussing, no crap, Just pure clean fun in an old fashioned swimming hole, monitored by staff for safety and crowding. Take goggles or snorkeling masks and noodles. Please leave oversized inflatable ducks at home.

Beautiful water we did not get to swim but we will be back. The swimming is not allowed until may but would be a great place for a picnic .

A truly fun place for people of all ages. Some just sunned, read and talked while others waded in. Still other dropped into the water from a rope. Smiles and laughter all around. Nice fun place.

We made reservation a month in advance, and there was a lot of space and social distance. Nice to take a tube to relax and enjoy

Beautiful natural setting. Friday night concert was really nice. We'll managed and operated by responsible persons who take obvious pride in their service.

A friend recommended the Blue Hole while we were in Wimberley. We were told to be very early (like in line at 9) or go late in day. We drove in at 4 and got in line. Park worker told us they were trying to see if more people could enter park. After waiting about 10 minutes we got in. Nice grassy area to put down towels or blanket. Some picnic tables are available. Nice cool water - which is almost entirely shaded. Two really fun rope swings - lines went pretty quickly. Kids had a blast on them. My husband and I swam around and watched kids on rope swing. There is a shallow end for smaller kids. Bring a float or noodle for the deeper ends or find a large rock to stand on like we did. Note of advice: if everyone in your party is getting in the water, leave all your valuables at home. There are no lockers available - not a problem if you plan ahead. Take a cooler with food/water/sodas if you will be there awhile. We really enjoyed it!

We went to Wimberley in search of the Blue Hole. Unfortunately it was closed. Put the picnic tables and attractions super nearby were available. The main office staff had alot of info for more activities to do and are really friendly. Its like a small town with restaurants and many other things to do besides getting in the water. There's a zipline that's looks like alot of fun but you need to make reservations. They have many souvenirs store. There is public access to the river were we ended up. Some spots are really shallow, you can take your chairs and chill while inside the water. Some parts are super deep with a strong current. We went to Pioneer Town & 7A resort close by. Alot of fun to ride the small water falls with tubes. Overall a fun experience for kids and adults 👍👍

Great park! The water is cold but refreshing. Bring a lawn chair, cooler and floats and have hours of fun!

This is a great place to have a picnic lunch and if you have a mind to a quick dip in the blue hole.

It was a very beautiful place, and I believe all that go there will fall in love with it as we did.Go in the spring or summer ,the trees are lovely at that time.We fell in love all over again.

Lovely trip for hiking. Nice scenery. lovely views. deer in sight.. added so much to a get away weekend for two.

Always wanted to visit this special place. Natural pool with crystal clear water, limestone bottom, very cold on a hot summer's day! Immense beauty that is all natural. Places for the kids to swing out over the water safely, with appropriate signs all over (rules). They let us in for free, just to observe. Honestly, I wish I'd brought my swimming suit, LOL! Real nice large lawn area for picnics and playing with the kids. Only recently made public a few short years ago-- was previously privately owned. My wife and I have always lived in Texas, but never visited here before-- a wonderful addition to the Texas tradition of excellence!

Well done Wimberley! This is a beautiful well managed park. I love that the swimming area has limited access. It preserves the natural area and creates an enjoyable experience (not over crowded).
The water is refreshing. Area is shaded.
Swimming is great! And the Recreation Area is nice. 2 thumbs up!

We visited on a 100+ degree day, but you would not know it down by the spring. Lots of shady spots (plus some sun for those who want it). The kids had a blast swinging on the rope swing for hours, but their arms were sore the next day :). Water is cool to start but you get used to it. We brought in a lunch and laid out a blanket. Really a perfect afternoon. My son and I hiked the trails thruogh low trees and wildflower fields up to the city-owned ball fields and playground. The change in temperature is amazing as soon as you get up on the hill compared to by the hole. All in all a very nice facility with clean bathrooms, good trail network, and organized. As with most watering holes in the area, you MUST make reservations. So plan ahead. That said, Blue Hole had plenty of slots available the day before our visit (though was a Thursday) but was sold out for anyone trying to purchase onsite. I believe they allow about 200 in at a time for either a morning or afternoon 4-hr timeslot.

The Blue Hole is even nicer now since they remodeled the grounds several years ago. I even noticed more expansion to include hiking trails and soccer fields. We were here to swim since it felt like 120 degrees out. Such a beautiful place. Big Cypress trees overhanging the creek where you swim. Cold, clear, spring fed water shallow enough for the little ones to play in but deep enough to swim in. The creek bed is pretty rocky so bring some swim shoes or at least sandles (your feet will thank you). They have at least two great tree swings to jump in with, a perfect lawn for the kids to play in & picnic, and an excellent selection of native plants surround you. I recommend weekdays, and calling ahead to make sure they're not closed due to overcrowding.

This was a beautiful location with trails that were nicely maintained. I saw several wildflowers and my favorite shrub was the dwarf red buckeye. It was Springtime and there were no crowds, but quite a few walkers. My only issue was my own fault, I did not carry water. I would recommend that you do. An improved trail map would be helpful as it was hard to calculate, and we did get lost. I would recommend it as a great place to be outside, and you can pick paved or soft surface trails.

If you have young kids this seems to be a popular spot for families. Don't forget to bring ur water shoes as the creek has a rocky bed. U don't need to make reservations but they close the park when too many ppl are in. Best bet is to call before going to figure out the situation

The blue hole was such a beautiful place to swim and hang out in the cool water. Swinging off the ropes were an added bonus. I loved how everyone was laying about the lawn. It made me feel I was transported back to a much simpler time.

Mother and I were on a short weekend vacation and wanted to see the Blue Hole Regional Park. The park was beautiful with very old cypress trees surrounding the area. The Blue Hole was very pretty and cold. We had a nice visit with the park ranger. He told us the cypress trees were over 200 years old and the water of Blue Hole was a constant 68 degrees year round. We had a short picnic lunch and on our way for more adventures.

Took my students there this summer-we couldn't believe how clear the water is. also we hiked the trails and saw a different type of squirrel-not the regular grey ones-these had reddish and black on them.

They cancled our reservations via email, but did not give us a refund. Reservation system is very unreliable and causes much confusion for people traveling to the area from out of town.

My husband and I took our bikes on the trails . You need wide tires to maneuver! Gravel paths can be a little trickey. Blue hole is a small swim area and can get a little crowded . We did not swim, but it seemed like a nice place to play in the water. Get there early if you want to swim it fills up fast and they only let so many in at a time.

Refreshing water! Nice to see kids swine rope and splash to the pool. Or just being a kid to do that, no matter how old you are.

Beautifully shaded swimming hole with two main large tree swings (chains) that are fun to jump in the freezing cold water. They say it's 75 degrees but feels colder. Nice grassy lawn area to lay out picnic blanket. About 4-5 picnic tables (made out of rock - super cool, looks like the Flintstones made them). Get there early in summer, limited amount of people they let in. Friendly staff will tell you all about the blue hole. Super close - right in the middle of Wimberley it seems. Must see spot if your vacationing in summer months. Kids just love it - very family oriented.

My family had been a patron of blue hole since the 80's. While we've enjoyed many beautiful days there and appreciate all the improvements, alas it's become a place the locals have a hard time getting into. My first year in Wimberley just bought entrance as needed.. next year bought season pass and on many occasions unable to enter due to reached " capacity limits". Next year bought ( did I mention these options all expensive? ) 10 visit pass and had 4 unused at end of season due to numerous visits where unable to visit due to capacity limits being reached. The am/pm entrances a cluster at best with long lines and minimal organization. They shut down at capacity but no one monitoring the ebb and flow of folks leaving. Can I suggest a clicker to count?? appreciate the local day instituted but not all local can utilize the time frame. Also trying to get info by phone on capacity a issue. Honestly we've quit going because of issues so guess all the tourists and Austinites win. Just saying

My wife had been both warned & welcomed to go ahead and make our first visit to the city of Wimberley’s gem of a park, Blue Hole. Warned, in case we were mostly or esp interesting in swimming. Welcomed because there were few folks around and we had lots of trails and edges of Cypress Creek’s banks to bask in the reflections and views. Pictures are bountiful yet, like all truly blessed locations on Earth, merely hint at the feel of being there, esp the peace of the creek and towering trees and reflections of light and shadow on the water. We went mid-morning and very much look fwd to returning a bit earlier for that experience, and if we can spend the night, stay for sunset images 😊 I’d be remiss if I didn’t give a huge thanks to all the staff we saw, exceptionally friendly & helpful, a joy to meet!

We visited Blue Hole on Wednesday, August ,17, 2016 around 2:30 in the afternoon. We were taking the scenic route home from San Antonio and decided to stop spur of the moment and didn't really plan it. It had rained all day and by the time we arrived, the park was closed by flooding. The guy at the gate was very nice and allowed us to use the restroom, which was behind a locked gate. While waiting for my wife, the park official directed me to the "Overlook" trail...we're going to try it again next time. The park was very pretty and if the person we meet is any indication, the people are nice and helpful.

Celebrating my wife's birthday picnic style. What a beautiful place to stay away from the city and enjoy nature! An hour and a half drive from San Antonio, Texas this amazing place is good for family outing. Kids young and old alike will enjoy the place. There's a shallow water area where small kids can swim and for the teenagers they can line up and try the 'swing jump' both for starters and intermediate swing jumpers. We git the chance to stroll along the river to see the cypress trees the gives shade to the area. A wonderful place to unwind!

Beautiful spot! Watched the turtles swim and the fish in the clear water, many went in the water to swim we just strolled along enjoying the peace and the large trees!

We visited on a Monday. Love that reservations are needed so that it doesn't get too crowded. Water felt amazing and our girls ages 10,12,and 13 did not want to leave!

The Blue Hole is a very popular place so get there early to get in line. Since I had never been, I was unaware that I should have my water shoes. The shallow end is very rocky. Next time I will bring a picnic lunch and settle in with the rest of the visitors.

Rope swing into Cypress Creek, swim, relax, this is one great spot during the summer months. Lots of trails for hiking and cycling.

I was surprised how nice the Blue Hole was. It is a small park with swimming and picnic tables, very well laid out. It also had soccer fields and hiking trails.

The swimming hole wasn't open for swimming but we were able to walk around. Looks pristine and inviting. There are ladders for getting in and out plus a super fun rope swing over the water. Not great for really young kids but great for school age and up.

Lovely setting for a nice walk on a beautiful day in mid-October. We weren't there when it is used as a swimming hole, so it may be much busier in the summer.

I've been going to blue hole since the 70s when it was dirt parking and a swimming spot. I was concerned when it was turned into a park but it is so much better this way. There is a large lawn to put out chairs or towels . The hole is still pretty and very cold! There are restroom facilities and people can bring in ice chests . It is very family friendly.

We just went for swimming here. May 19th 2024. we only need reservation if we want to swim. So, I made the reservation couple of weeks early for Sunday afternoon 2-6. They allow only limited tickets, so there is not too much crowd. Parking was full though. we park on the extended parking area and walked to the entrance. We saw huge mosquitos while we walk to the entrance and there were there in the entrance as well. but inside the park, there were none. not even a single mosquito. There are enough space to set your things on the grassy area and good space for you to swim and jump from the rope. it was awesome. the water was a bit cold but once inside the water, its comfortable. the area where the jump is set, is very deep. the water is very clean and clear. we enjoyed very much. we will go again.

After going to Jacob's Well and having to find out right then and there that you need reservations we went ahead and opted for our second option. Needless to say this is what we were looking for all along. This place is quite like no other swimming hole in the area. It is full of trees that provide shade at all hours of the day. The area is really clean and kept tidy from what we experienced. It is perfect for picnics, swimming and laying out in the sun. We will definitely try and come back again.

Perfect! Just went this past week for part of a girl’s weekend. We booked the half day from 9-1 and it couldn’t have been more perfect. They’re allowing the perfect amount of people so there’s plenty of space to spread out on land and in the water. Hopefully they keep the reservation policy forever because it was a perfect experience! Not too crowded, very relaxing. Will definitely visit again. Tips: don’t forget floats or noodles. The water is deep and we were unprepared. We went to three different places in town looking for floats and they were hard to come by. You can also bring chairs, coolers, etc.

My kids loved swimming here, very relaxing for parents too. Make sure to get your reservation ahead of time.

This small gem of a park is located on the spring-fed Cypress Creek. The water temperature is a constant 68F (20C), and offers a welcome respite from the Texas heat. The area is open for swimming weekends in May, then daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day. During the rest of the year, it's a gorgeous place to stop and take in the view of the creek. Longhorn cattle graze just beyond the park boundary.

Spend the day hanging out with a WHOLE LOT of other people while imagining what it would be like to be a kid again with no cares. Just playing in the creek, laying in the sun, without a care in the world. It's always crowded in the summer but the rest of the year it's not so full. When Hamilton Pool is full and you didn't get a reservation in in time for Jacob's Well, this is the place to come.

Ice cold water, 3 rope swings, peaceful surroundings what else do you need on a hot summer day?! Be sure to make a reservation. Two groups 9:00-1:00 and 2:00 - 6:00. Texas has become too crowded for everyone to swim at once.

We didn’t know the policy had changed to having to have reservations to visit and swim. Quite the disappointment for the long drive and long faces on the kiddos! Don’t make the same mistake I did!

I was very disappointed after trying to buy tickets online to go. Knowing I had to make a reservation for the visit, I purchased my ticket a week in advance, and when I was only allowed to purchase one ticket, I figured my husband and I would clear it up when we got there. We drove five hours for our stay in Wimberley, and when we arrived yesterday, Blue Hole was our first destination (we actually booked our cabin exclusively around being able to go to Blue Hole). When we got there, I found out I had purchased the last ticket for that day online, and they would not sell us ONE more for my husband and I to go in. Even more, I was not allowed a refund because you have to request a refund a week in advance, and it’s only for 75% of the cost of the ticket. Very disappointed.

Although you cannot swim during this time, you can see the beauty and why many come to visit. Very family friendly and simply peaceful and a must see with all the cypress trees .

This is a beautiful natural preserve very close to the city of Wimberly. It is spacious with soccer field, basketball, playgrounds, picnic areas, and pavilion. We went there just to hike around and became totally lost. Trails have these markers, but you are not sure which trail you are on plus the map does not differentiate Road from trail. We were lost constantly but hey, it is nice scenery, deers abound, & the cliff area beautiful. We saw families hiking & playing ball. Looks like a great place to take energetic youngsters!

The swimming was closed but we didn't come for that, we just wanted to check out and take our dogs for a walk which they are not allowed in the area at blue hole only the trails. It's a great park!

We walk there about 3-4 times a weeks. Well kept trails, beautiful swimming area, clean restrooms, awesome basketball and sand volleyball courts. Nice camping and picnic areas. A true treasure.

I've been enjoying Blue Hole for over 60 years.
Crystal clear water, huge beautiful Cypress Trees and nice picnic facilities.

This place is SO fun!! My teenagers had a blast getting on the rope swings (well, it's a big metal loop attached to a chain, but very sturdy). The best part is the cool water and the shade from the cypress trees, so didn't have to worry too much about getting sunburned. We didn't explore the rest of the park (it was 102 when we went), but the trails look great. Try to go during the week if you can, I'm sure it's absolutely packed on the weekend. We went on a Monday and it was only about a third of its capacity.

They closed for a private event and would not let anyone down. However they failed to advertise this on their website or park signage. Very disappointing to travel there and be denied.

This park is perfect for swimming in clear water and refreshment in very hot days in Texas. You have to book admission online minimaly one day before and you have to pay it before too. There is not possibility somethig to buy at the place so you take food and drink with.

In love with this park. The drive to the park was an experience in itself. Lots of beautiful trails. And the blue hole is so beautiful and cold! So refreshing on a summer day.
The wait, however, is a problem to get into the swimming hole. They let people in at 10 am so get in line no later then 8:30 to 9 or you won't get in. They only allow a certain amount of people in to the actually swimming area. Once you're in, you can stay till closing. They allow you to bring food, chairs, canopies. Young children can swim for hours. If you don't make it early, the next time they open it is at 1pm and allow a certain amount of people in depending on the number of people who left. So get in line no later then 11:30. My husband and I got in line by 11 and sat there for 2 hours and were the first one in line. But wow it was so worth the wait.

Nice park with easy trails, soccer and baseball fields, picnic area (stone tables and benches). Scenic Blue Hole Swimming Area (opened in season only) has clear water. Very relaxing environment.

We had planned to be there early but our timing was ruined by hotel nightmare. After we finally were able to go about our plans and visit the Blue Hole with intentions to relax and swim. I had looked up on here previously before going, and somehow didn't see that there are session times and they close from 12-2, I think were the times but I lost my info sheet they gave me. They were kind enough to let us walk around for 10 min or so and I took pictures. There was a small area for picnicking, the trees were huge, water so so blue and clear. You can see perch and catfish swimming around. So peaceful. They have rules to keep things family oriented and tranquil. It was easy to walk to. I wished we could have stayed.

Great place to go and swim. Get there early as it fills up fast, and they limit the number of people there (which is nice as it never feels crowded). You can bring in food and non-alcoholic beverages. Kids (ages 9 and 6) loved swinging off ropes and diving beneath the tree roots. Reasonably priced and fun way to kill a few hours.

We enjoyed a nice hike and view of the blue hole. It was not open to swimmers until 10:00 so we had a nice quiet walk through the area. It was beautiful and would enjoy going back to swim in the river.

Great walking trails! We walked around among the cypress trees and enjoyed the sounds. No swimming right now so the noise level was great and we could enjoy just watching the water.

Blue Hole is a fabulous place to take a stroll, or take a long walk. The paths are clearly marked, the bathrooms are clean and the air is clean. Strolling along Cypress Creek or up by the playground, is a very pleasant way to spend an hour. Once the swimming hole opens, that is a great treat.

Great for kids and adults of all ages. Shallow zone for littles and fun swings into the creek for kids 6-99. Room to float and watch the fun. And plenty of grassy area for playing and picnicking.
They keep the max capacity at 250 so it's not too crowded. Plenty of room for everyone to stake out a picnic area for your group. Get there early for the 10am opening if you want to get in.
Be sure to take: floats, a picnic, camp chairs, maybe a pop up tent if you want shade, and plenty of cold drinks (no alcohol allowed).
Be aware that there are limited bathroom facilities and no snacks/beverages.

I've never seen a place like this!!! I enjoy swimming, but I burn so easy. Not a problem here!!! Fully shaded!!! Just an amazing natural place to unwind!! I've only gone on Wimberley Residents Only nights, so I cannot speak of regular hours, I'm grateful for locals only swim time. I hope it is available again this year!

We had a Sunday pm reservation. Free parking is readily available and the walk to the river is short and quick. I read it somewhere that there are mosquitoes to/from the river but there were none when we were there.
The park is well kept. I think the city of Wimberly is doing the right thing by limiting the number of admissions.
The cedar trees provide the excellent shades all around. The water was so clear. They have a few ropes to jump into the deep spots. My college age sons just love doing just that.
There was no shower but the bathroom/changing room was clean.
We had such a great time that we plan on going back before kids go back to school/

It took me 22 years to make it to Blue Hole from Austin. I've heard about it and finally got to experience the cool refreshing water. Granted I was there during a weekday morning so I'm sure it's businer at other times but it was just what I needed after a morning run. Very special place.

We made the 3 1/2 hour drive from Houston and it was totally worth it! Reservations have to be made on their website $10 adults $6 kids(4-12)/senior/military and free kids 3 and under free. they have 2 time slots 9am-1pm and 2pm-6pm. The water is chilly but you get used it. They had 2 rope swings, a shallow area for the smaller kids. Lots of shade In the water and out of the water and it never felt over crowded. The walk from the parking to the water are is not too far and its a nice path to get there. They have clean restrooms and changing rooms. They have a few picnic tables but they have to be reserved and I believe there is a fee. We brought our folding chairs, blanket, 10x10 canopy (just in case there wasn't shade), rolling cooler and floaties. My 11yr old son, husband and I had such a great time we were sad to leave. Looking up a future reservation before summer is over.

Like going back in time ! Every generation should pass on this old school fun to the next ! Spring fed stream with clear cool water! Just the perfect place to swim and cool off in the summer ! Gigantic cypress trees line the edge of stream with chains that hang off with hoops to grab unto and swing over and jump into the water! Looking at the kids having fun here, makes you wonder if maybe for at least a day we all forgot about looking at our smart phones ? If so PRICELESS! Next to the stream is an open meadow where you can picnic suntan etc . This was one of those things that only God could have created for our pleasure !

So we had nvr been here & for our first time juts goin on information that we got from trip adviser, we had a blast! It was super fun only 9$ a person to get it. It's very family like, take chairs to sit & food to eat U can't drink beer or smoke. Other then that it was super fun! Def would go again!

Absolutely one of the best things to visit when in Wimberley. It truly is a gem of a park, a wonderful watering hole and a cool place to visit. In every sense of the term! Bring some warm clothes because the water is COLD at times. Fresh spring fed.

You have to pay to get into a swimming hole which is ridiculous. They sell out very quickly. They don't allow dogs. Not very much parking. Clerks at the ticket decks are very uncaring and unhelpful. I would never go back. Much better places to swimming around this area.

We were fortunate enough to be visiting my brother in Fischer Texas at the same time as the Wimberley Arts Fest 2016 was being held right next to Blue Hole Regional Park. What a perfect time of the year to view this wonder of nature. At this time of the year the temperatures are not too high and everything is very green from the heavy rainfall. This park has everything you could want: hiking paths, picnic areas, and the beautiful Cypress Creek flowing through it. The swimming hole is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. It is the perfect place to cool off during the brutally hot Texas summer, but it is nice to visit anytime to enjoy the beautiful green vistas.

Great place for walking. Small play area for children and benches for watching. We see deer every visit. Can't wait for spring to see all the wildflowers.

We loved this park and went every single day to walk the trails and enjoy the outdoors in Wimberly. Awesome location and perfect place to walk, run, or mountain bike.

We went off-season (early March 2018) so it wasn't crowded. Amazing place and gorgeous scenery with old trees and calm water for swimming. I'm sure it gets crowded in summer. The place is calming and very pleasing. Loved the natural beauty!

Absolutely beautiful place!!! Like a little piece of heaven. You wont be disappointed. No trouble walking for those who may be older or somewhat disabled. Perfect place for a hot Texas day.

The Blue Hole requires reservations and you can select either a morning reservation for an afternoon, or as in our case, we paid for the full day. The easiest parking spots fill up fast so get there early! There is parking farther away, a little walk so if you have a cooler/chairs/tubes I'd suggest a rolling cart (like the soccer mom wagon). The park is immaculately kept, no alcohol or smoking. Beautiful grounds. There are picnic tables you can reserve but we often take blankets/an umbrella & chairs & set up absolutely anywhere. There are bathrooms & changing rooms. There is not usually soap in the bathrooms so I bring a small hand soap pump of my own. This is family friendly. And I've seen large groups of young adults who bring volley balls/beach balls, footballs to throw around. Y'all this is a TX treasure & should not be missed. Oh, the water is cold...so, so cold b/c it is from a spring. This is shocking to visitors! lol. Bring goggles or snorkels b/c there are fish to be seen in the deeper areas. There are 2 rope swings that everyone jumps from, one shallower than the other. You will love it here!

This park is stunning with the water and the cypress. There are also informational plaques explaining some habitat and plants in the park. I went when swimming was not open, and it was a picturesque walk down a concrete path with several opening next to the water. You can easily picnic, sun yourself, or sit and read, or just take time to reflect on the beauty. There are also other trails I saw where you could hike a bit. You are in the Texas hill country, where there are trees, shrubs and quiet beauty, and Cypress Creek running through this park is the same one running through town, except here you can actually get close enough to take pictures of it. According to their website, they do NOT allow pets, and they also don't allow glass to be brought into the park.

I went to the park with some friends from out of town. We loved the park and found the crystal clear blue water just amazing. We went off season so the park was empty, but we could imagine how crowded it could get in the summer. Nonetheless, it is a place well worth visiting.

It was cold water on a hot day. We arrived after 1so the water wasn't really blue more of an overly populated cloudy creek which is exactly what it was. Glad to go once but that's enough for me.

This was a lot bigger than I’d thought it would be with tons of trails, soccer fields, playground, picnic areas etc. There was even some ground maintenance going on Thanksgiving morning. It was very peaceful and not many people were in the area. We didn’t gravitate to the hole which is open in the summer but very busy. We saw some deer on the trails too.

A landscape that captivates with its beautiful cypress trees whose roots are hidden under the crystal-clear water of the space delimited for swimming, floating, or jumping from a rope.

Even at ages 69 and 70 we enjoyed this swimming hole a lot. The water is spring fed and thus is a cool 68 degrees. In hot Texas weather this is very refreshing indeed! The bottom of the creek is rocky so be sure to wear water shoes. Floats, life jackets, wacky noodles etc are all welcome and a good section of the creek is shallow enough for the average sized 4 yr old and up. For older children and adults who can swim you can swing out from the trees and drop into deep water.
There is a sizable grassy area to lay your blankets and enjoy the sunny day. There are also a few picnic tables. There are clean, modern changing rooms and restrooms.
There is a fee to swim (check website) but we felt it was worth it. Next time we will bring our grandchildren.

Blue Hole was amazing! After reading the reviews we knew that we probably wouldn't get in after seeing the line of cars in the morning so we took that time to drive over to Jacobs Well, which wasn't far at all. We arrived back around 3pm and drove right in. The park is small which was perfect having 4 kids all under 10. The kids had a blast and never once asked when it was time to go. There's a rope swing, trees to climb and jump off of, an ankle deep area and ring (which takes some skill to get). The water was clean, clear and cold, we even spotted a few turtles. Make sure your children are good swimmers if they are using the rope swing, the water is deep. We stayed until closing time and the kids were so sad to leave. We had a 3 hour drive home and they talked and laughed the whole way about how much fun they had!

Blue Hole is a great park! The swimming hole is well maintained and preserved with limited entries - make a reservation before you come unless you're a local. The water is cold and refreshing, and the rope swings from the giant bald cypress trees are so fun! Outside of the swimming area, the park has many great hiking trails, some soccer fields, playscape, and a pavilion. I love walking the trails with my pup!

We visited the area at the end of February during the week so the park wasn't very crowded. We strolled over to the water where there are huge cypress trees and deep blue water in spots. The rope swings were abandoned then but I bet they would be so fun in the summer to swing out into the cold water. There are also many walking trails in the park too.

Nice park. Seems to be mostly geared for swimming. Not a lot of riverside trails except at thye swimming hole.

We only saw a small area of this park, but it was so neat! We made use of the playground and it was a great place for the kids to play. We saw all sorts of people walking around and the pictures of the swimming looked great. We hope to come back and see more!

This small park is so nice! My son loved swinging and jumping into the creek. Water nice and cool! Great for picnics!

Located off the road in Wimberley it is a nice place to take the kids on a hot day. If the water level is up it is very relaxing. Make sure the kids our out of the water during stormy conditions- water will rise.

Get there early or come much later in the day to get in and avoid lines during the weekends. The water was cold, the rope swings were fun, and the cypress trees were beautiful.

This place is right at the entrance of Wimberly. I did my homework on Trip Advisor before coming so when I saw the signs to Blue Hole I followed. The scenery here is very green, beautiful and peaceful. Hardly any people. Very well kept and clean, free of litter. The water is very clear. I walked up to the overlook, nothing much to it but still nice.

Friends stopped by in January just to see the place. Nice. Can't imagine how crowded it might be in July.

It's a nice little park area, beautiful crystal clear water river with a swimming area. I was thinking it was something more than that. It was very peaceful and quite area for a nice little stroll. I am sure in the summer time it would be quite different and crazy.

One of the most beautiful places I've ever been. The water was clear and cool, the cypress trees were incredible. My family had the best time, and the limited reservations made it less crowded which was perfect. My kids, who are 10 and 6 loved it but did need lifejackets for the deep sections. My only complaint is the smaller rope swing was closed off and my kids were too short for the big rope, so they were disappointed they weren't able to do either of them.

brillant! really clean and calm place to visit, we love the nature so in my place its a must to visit near san antonio

On a weekday in April swimming was not yet open for the season, so we had the park to ourselves. Very pretty creek with giant Cyprus trees. Nice hiking trails. Well maintained city park.

This is a well maintained watering hole, but it's very, very cold! It's mostly shaded, so there wasn't much for warming up in the sun. It was also very, very crowded as it is summer and a ton of kids there. The kids were enjoying the rope swings a lot, but it's not a place to just go and relax in the water. It's very deep and did I mention freezing cold?

The Blue Hole park is gorgeous and so much fun for everyone who visits! Get there by 9:30 am if you want to get in with the first 250 guests. They close off the park for a few hours to keep it from overcrowding.
There are large grassy areas to set up your spot - I'd suggest bringing lawn chairs and beach towels to hang out on. Bring pool noodles or some type of flotation device if you want to relax in the deeper side of the swimming hole without treading water the entire time.
There are two rope swings that everyone helps each other out with. Lots if wonderful people just wanting to swim and relax.
Also - you can bring coolers and food but no alcohol!

The Blue Hole is one of those places that wows you every time you visit. As a "local" I have been many times. The space is best when it is not too busy with tourists, but it is beautiful and breathtaking every time, no matter the crowds. A must see for nature lovers!
Love this swimming spot
Love this swimming spot! Highly recommend. Try to avoid when there are a ton of people. Best in small groups on off days
