We arrived at Bottomless Lakes State Park Near Roswell New Mexico. Wonderful large sites and beautiful park, only $14.00 a night including electricity, water and free wifi.

We had a picnic and enjoyed the water and picnic area. We were at the park area and noticed the camping sites there. Good to Know. We also checked out all the lakes. Amazing.

This is a good lake for families with young children. There is a shallow roped off area which has a lifeguard. There are kayaks and paddle boats for rental. The lake is small so it's not suitable for serious swimmers but nevertheless it was lovely to cool off from the intense heat. The water is clean and was just the right temperature for swimming. Only drawback are flies which seem to be everywhere!

This is a fun park. The main lake is lea lake! It includes a rocky beach and swimming ! 5 bucks a car for a day. They have camping sites nearby as well for an additional charge. There is a large cliff that overlooks this lake with good views. Along the way to lea lake there are a few other lakes with great views too. I would suggest a stop here for anyone who wants to escape the alien phenomenon of Roswell!

Went there today and swam. Also rented the paddle boats ($10 per hour) and kayak ($5 per hour). Lake is not that big but still fun to paddle/kayak around. Salt water is cold and it is deep in spots. There is a shallow end where kids swim. You can also rent life jackets for $1. Admission to the area is $5 per car load. You can take food and snacks. No booze is allowed. You can't beat the prices. The only negative is some people smoke and it's allowed. Highly recommend.

It was Thanksgiving Day, so my son and I could not utilize the visitors center but we had a lovely hike and spent about three hours on foot, followed by a drive on the bluffs. The boardwalk through the wetland area was one of the best I've seen while birding. It would have been nicer if the blind by the big pond had been closer - next time I'll bring a scope.

Off season for swimming, but this is a beautiful park. Definitely would love to go back when the pool area is open. The scenery was certainly worth the drive!

We did the Bottomless Triathlon and enjoyed the lake, too. The kids loved swimming - just be sure to warn yours not to drink the water and expect some complaints of nausea from accidental salt water ingestion. Dogs are welcome, but only past the buoys and not on the main beach.

This is a beautiful site. The water is so clear and blue. It makes for awesome pictures. If you like nature and being outdoors for a hike or a picnic this is the place to go!!

Beautiful park, 5 bottomless lakes, wonderful boardwalk for a walk.
Looks like a lovely place
To camp out. Large lake loaded with minerals, soaked our feet would have loved to have home for a swim. Park ranger hysterical. Enjoyed talking with him about what to do.
Very informative.

Very unique geologic site. And a great family outing at the main lake. Water sports rentals, and camp sites and picnic sites. Bring the sunscreen!

We had an overnight here right next to the recreation lake and it was gorgeous. The weather was nice and the facilities were good. We had hook up and the site was relatively quiet so we had a peaceful stay.
The following day we spent down by the lake chilling out and having a swim.
It's a bit out of the way but if you are down visiting Roswell it's a great place to stay for a night or two with some great walks and beautiful views and sunsets.

In the larger scheme of things, this is definitely not a very picturesque area of New Mexico so finding Bottomless Lake is like finding a small pearl in an otherwise bleak area. Went there in February so the cold meant no insects to deal with but a very cold night (down to 24F). Any desert area with water will have its slew of insects to deal with otherwise – it’s to be expected.
Super quiet, away from anything, great for watching the night skies filled with millions of stars. The small lakes have various blueish to greenish colors, somewhat unexpected for non-glacial fed lakes. There is also a short boardwalk that meanders near wetland where they explain the birds coming and going. None to be seen in February but during migration, it should be quite interesting.
Except for Lea Lake (the largest one), the campsites are well spaced out, so you don’t even see or have to deal with your neighbors. Spent the night near Pasture Lake at the end of the trail so it felt very remote, my kind of camping.
Great rock formations and hiking (no real trails so a lot of scrambling). When, not raining (or no rain in the forecast) there are a few easy canyons to discover (watch for flash floods).

Great stay for $14. Enjoyed the sinkhole lakes and rock formations. National Wildlife Refuge nearby had an excellent visitors center.

Beautiful Campground! But the most disgusting bathrooms I've ever seen in a state park!!! 2 hosts don't clean! GROSS!!!

This is a great state park about 15 miles southeast of Roswell, NM. We camped in the Lea Lake Recreation area. Nice quiet campground with camp hosts and rangers driving through constantly.
The park has a really nice picnic swimming area, hiking trails, a nature walk, camping areas both rustic and FHU, a small visitor center and for mountain bikers there is a 3 1/2 mile trail with lots of technical riding but no major inclines or declines. Might be challenging for inexperienced riders or young children. A must do for those who enjoy mountain biking.

We drove up to the Bottomless Lake State Park and it was fun to see the rock formations and the beautiful views of the lake. We did a little hiking while there as well.

Saw an advertisement for the park while in Roswell and we decided to check it out. I’m so glad we did. We spent a relaxing couple of hours driving around the park and exploring. There were lots of great photo opportunities as well. Next time we’ll definitely bring a picnic lunch to enjoy while visiting.

A long drive to see green pools of water. Lots of great camping areas. The rocks were better than the water.

The roads were bumpy in and out, but the park was great for kids. Big play ground, great free wifi. The visitors center had great info on the park, and the rangers were very friendly. Sunsets and night sky were amazing. The biggest complaint we have is all the dog poo all over the place.

I could never have imagined driving across the barren plateau of low scrub towards this State Park, that such an oasis could exist hidden from view until almost upon it.Just unbelievable that an internationally acclaimed Ramsar site should ever be situated in such a desolate terrain. However, once descending down over to park floor and lakes themselves, another world is experienced. I arrived at the first main lake before 9.00 am in brilliant sunshine with not a sole to be seen anywhere. Only size of car park, clearly defined walkways, play area and buildings told me that this park became very popular at times with all ages. Unfortunately, March is not a good time to visit if wishing to see many wader birds but there is so much else to experience. Many visitors later that morning, obviously only had time to stop at each of the individual lakes, admire and then drive on to the next, but there is so much more to see if time permits you to explore more closely. Really wonderful place to be enjoyed.

I had a blast exploring here! I expected it to be a scenic area with hiking trails and all that (the New Mexico version of Missouri’s Ha Ha Tonka). It was very scenic but it also provided awesome opportunity for me to explore and have fun. Not to mention, take some gorgeous photos!
I will DEFINITELY come back!

Bottomless Lakes is a unique and interesting natural phenomenon. We camped there for a night, in the parking area above Mirror Lake. We enjoyed the lakes and nature trails.
What we most didn't like about this state park is that it seemed that the management does little to protect the lakes from disrespectful people. There seems little effort made to keep people from trampling all over the lakes area, sliding down hills, disturbing vegetation and wildlife, etc. Many visitors even seem to get a kick out of throwing bottles and other trash into the lakes.
Also, the showers suck -- barely warm water, "water-saver" shower heads that sting your face and spray water directly at the changing area, and "push-button" timers that last maybe 12 seconds (what a hassle!).
Maybe they don't have the funding(?), but some improved management could really help this place.

The Bottomless lakes was pretty amazing and fun for the family. We decided to camp out and enjoy the water for the day. The camp site was nice and clean. The lake had a nice entrance to swim with sand.

It was kind of the off season. The park was nice and quiet. Really interesting. It appeared to have nice facilities, but most were closed due to the season.

A must see lots oh history about the lakes swimming is good life guards on duty in the summer parking spaces for campers fresh water showers and restrooms

This hidden gem is so beautiful. You have got to take a little time to stop and visit. 15 Miles outside of Roswell!

This is located a bit outside of Roswell, NM, but it's a really pretty area. The "lakes" are apparently actually sinkholes ranging from 17 to 90 feet deep with a color that makes them appear bottomless.
The campgrounds are quite nice --both tents and RVs have designated spaces. And the swimming area at Lea Lake is probably one of the nicest I've seen at this type of location.

I passed through here coming home from my vacation through New Mexico this summer on a whim and it was really cool! I cam here specifically because of 1 biking trail that had good reviews to I stopped by the office, paid my 5 dollars, went up to the trail head and parked, got my bike ready and off I went! the trail was a bit rough in areas but all in all I had a blast! Best one I've been on so far as a newbie mountain biker. Very cool dessert scenery.

Great place to cool off in the summer. Weekdays are not as crowed. they have areas for overnite camping, Shade for a picnic while enjoying swimming an just relaxing

I visited this park on a Sunday morning. The office was closed, but we paid for the entrance by easily following the directions posted. Have cash or you will need to scan a code to pay online, and if your phone service stinks it may be an issue. After getting the pass taken care of, I went for a short hike. If I remember correctly, there are seven lakes in total, and you will have to hike some to get a magnificent view. It’s worth it! I enjoyed it a great deal, but I didn’t camp.

12 miles outside of Roswell, this park is a bit out of the way and not worth it. Drove to the campgrounds that was (salt) lakeside which was nice but the air was full of flies and smelled of poop. I don't know if there was a cattle farm nearby but we had planned to stay here for the night but ended up leaving within a half hour.

Don't miss this if you're in the area. We spent a bit of time in the Lea lake area and did the paddle boats. The water is so clear and clean! The swimming area was small but not very crowded. The water was a little too chilly. If we had stayed longer I'm sure we could've gotten used to it. Would've loved to spend the day. We drove around and looked at the other lakes. Such a cool area! Beautiful!

This Manager is the biggest liar of all !!! Was planning on hosting, and the Park Manager tolde to contact him before I left Alaska, changed his mind RUINED OUR TRIP !

The park is easy to get to being just short drive from Roswell. There are eight lakes contained within the narrow but four or five mile long park. the surrounding landscape is rather drab, dusty and featureless making the greenish tint pools the more or less reason to be there - that is to say relaxing and playing in the water. If you walk / bike in, it is free, day access starts at $5 and camping starts with $8 and goes up depending on what you desire. The space for RV and camping is limited , so you will need to make reservation Fishing is allowed in two of the lakes and swimming is allowed in one, so check with the rangers as to what you wish to do and which lake you can do it in. The park is neat , clean well maintained and the rangers are friendly and helpful. It is an enjoyable day trip if you are in Roswell, great for swimming, diving, paddle boards and paddle boats A nice break for the family esp on a budget.

As the first State Park established in New Mexico back in 1933 we were excited to see the Botomless Lakes...not so much. This is not our destination but a stop on our way to The Grand Canyon as a trip of a lifetime for my husband and I. Arrived at dusk on 7-26-16...trailer spaces for reservations, where we stayed (reserved our site through Reserve America which cost an addition $12.00 for nothing) were large, clean and nice. That's about it. There was a nauseating stench in the air upon exiting our vehicle. The bugs ranged in size from that of large June Bug sized black beetles to weird green inch long winged things to gnats by the billions. Trip to the restrooms at the swim area offered a large pile of human feces on the floor,no tissue and every toilet had urine &/or poop in them. Additiinally, the floor was covered with about an inch of grit and sand. Judging from the amount of filth and the empty park, it could not have been cleaned that day. We spent the night, woke up to the same nasty odor and called for a refund as we were not getting into the water if that's what you find in the restrooms! The Supervisor was very politeand told me he didnt want me to leave but I was on the verge of tears. We were supposed to spend 3 nights here.

We stopped on our way into Roswell after several hours in the car. Our young children (age 4 and 7) loved frolicking in the water / beach. Was not crowded on a weekday- a little buggy and a little smelly sand- but kids loved wading to cool off from 80 degree march day. Probably spent an hour total in the park which was worth the $5 admission.

This is only for an expert swimmer. As soon as I crossed the threshold where the ‘bottom falls out’ (in other words it plunges 800 feet straight down), an overwhelming sense of dread came over me; just had to plow ahead, focus on my breathing and talk to myself to make it all the way across. I did this in Nov 2016 and nobody else was in the water, it was chilly, clean and super invigorating. I was glad to hit shore.
Lea Lake is stunning. Check out my pic and you can see where it gets deep right off shore. If you’re not an expert swimmer, you should not go out here.

The parks in this part of the country are very well maintained. It was a fun exploring day for the whole family.

quiet and beautiful. The lakes were all beautiful no matter which one you stop at! there were no park rangers on duty but the vehicle fee was $5. my dog really enjoyed getting to run around and play with the fish

We visited the park around 730am and it was so peaceful and quiet. Our whole time driving and walking around there might have been 5 other cars that we saw. The visitor center wasn't open yet, so we just drove around and stopped at the lookout areas and enjoyed the wonderful views. We saw lots of cactus, a variety of flowers and one small lizard.

We spend one day and one night at this incredible place. It's a little hiden from the main roads, but gps get us there.
The ranger on charge welcomed us, two families two vehicles and helped us to choose a good spot.
We did camping and were told by the ranger not to left food out or ice chest with edibles, because of racoons that can open almos anything no matter what, looking for food. Also to lock cars.
The water at big lake is emerauld green and relaxing with that strange sensation of knowing there's no bottom even with the rope and buoyants that marks allowed swimming area but long before that, you're floating and not able to touch any floor with your feet, something very common at deep area pools or sea, but here it's a unique sensation.
Like 3:00 am my wife and I had to go to the WC and saw some racoons
at the park trash cans I pointed my flashlight to the noise and there was small brilliant eyes staring at us. Not too much destructives more likely quiet and caution. As if they were trying not to disturbe the precious starring night that you can only enyoy at no artificial light places.
This park have showers near the shore and at restrooms.
One tip if you not traveling in a RV, take enough groceries with you nearest town is like 9 miles away and the park closes the gate I can't remember well if 9:00 pm
to 6:00am.
We had a wonderfull time here. And you can go Roswell 14 miles from here, Wathaburger is great there.

We needed to get out of Roswell for a walk in nature, and this was the nearest place. It's about 15 miles to the east of town, just after the land starts to rise. I imagine it's busy in summer by the lake, but there was almost no one around when we took the short hike from the visitor center to Lea Lake and back (about 1.6 miles). If you follow the numbered sites in the trail pamphlet, you learn something about sinkholes, salty soil and shortgrass prairie. No services on site in February.

There is a swimming area, camping and picnic spots. But even if you are short on time, take 15-30 minutes and drive the loop. If you have an extra 30 minutes to an hour, enter on west side at Devil's Inkwell and pay the day-use fee ($5 per vehicle cash, self-service pay station, no change made). Hike a bit of the Bluff trail and read the first two signs that tell how the lakes formed from sinkholes and how cowboys tried to plumb the depths of the lakes. Go to Mirror Lake and read the info sign. The Visitor Center (9 am - 5 pm) has some educational exhibits, including one that compares salinity of various bodies of water.

This State park is fantastic for all! The visitor center is very educational and the park rangers were quite pleasant and knowledgeable. The recreation area is wonderful. A great beach, shaded area, picnic and barbeque sites. There are paddle boats to go on the lake. A great family getaway!

My husband & I went to Roswell for the day & in the late afternoon some locals suggested visiting this area. We did a quick google search on the way there to learn about how the lakes formed & it's truly fascinating!!! We didn't know what to expect a "fallen cave" lake to look like, but when we walked up on it it took my breath away. Great photo ops out here!!

After visiting the UFOI Museum we thought we would head out to the Bottomless Lake as we had some time to kill late afternoon. It was a bit of an anti climax after visiting the museum and town. It is a fairly boring expanse of water with much to offer really.

The park isn't far from town, easily accessible. The lakes are actually sinkholes which are very interesting and pretty. It doesn't take long to drive the loop. The trails are easily accessible and provide nice views of the "lakes" and landscape.

We so enjoyed this park!!
Be sure to scramble down to the lakes! It looks like a sandy beach, but it’s really gypsum.
A beautiful place to visit and enjoy nature for sure, and just a short drive from Roswell.

Pictures on website were prettier than in person. Best lake for our taste was the first one (at the visitor center). Okay for a short visit. Time of day might make a difference. We were there in late afternoon.

It was recommended by the UFO Research center and rove our jeep at night into the park. Parked our jeep on the side of the road in the darkness...little did we expect not only you see the entire heavens and galaxies...but also moving things...cant confirm what they were but def weird...a total of three!

Well worth the visit. Good and see the bottomless lakes. (Not really bottomless) but beautiful anyways. Pay the $5 for the up keep. We thought we were the only ones there. But to our surprise after walking the trail we came out to about 200-300 people all enjoying the heat. Swimming in the lake. Just fantastic. Picnic tables, barbecues and lots of parking. Fantastic.

It is easy to get a spot without reservations which is nice. Lea lake- the water is beautiful with a nice beach and hardly any people this time of year. There are some grass burrs but not as many as some of NM state parks. We found a nice spot without any. The mosquitos and flies literally drove us out 2 days early. Our entire camp was covered in flies, and the mosquitos never go away, not in the morning or night or daytime. The other tiny “lakes” are basically mosquito breading pools and not visitable. Just driving by the car filled up with them. We will probably not be returning here unless it is an emergency and we need to stay for one night.

It was hot and we took a little side trip to this state park. It was fine...nothing spectacular. Good stopping place for a picnic.

The park was a nice place to visit, but I don't think the bathrooms were cleaned during my couple night stay. I visited the Rangers station/welcome center and people were there, so I'm not sure why they weren't. Setting was gorgeous though. Good spot to stay in Roswell.

Located about 15 miles from Roswell, Bottomless Lakes State Park is scenic and worth the visit. There is a small but informative information center staffed with helpful volunteers. There are hikes, covered picnic areas, swimming and SCUBA diving opportunities. So, well worth the short drive to the park.

We stupidly decided to spend the night in Roswell and after the UFO museum found that there was absolutely nothing else in this ghastly town to visit. Trip Advisor mentioned Bottomless Lakes so off we went. It's a bit of a drive out of town, but once you're there it's a really pretty stretch of land with various camping areas and finally, a larger lake where you could rent paddle boats, etc. Parking was $5, which was obviously not much. But, when we parked it looked like there enough buildings around that there would be some basic services like refreshments or even a snack bar. Nope. Nothing. So, we paid, parked and walked around the lake area and left. So, if you are looking to spend an afternoon there, swimming, picnicking, or hiking, great.

It's a little surprising for those of us whose environment revolves around recreational surface water to find a lovely recreational spring-fed lake in the middle of the New Mexican desert. Lea Lake itself is lovely, and the campgrounds are good but not great. The surrounding wetlands area, however, is fascinating and the exhibits tell a good story about how wetland life can thrive in such a hostile environment. Hiking was average. Not a bad place to hit during the late winter/early spring, but I can only imagine how jammed it must be in the summer.

Bottomless Lakes State Park is very unusual geographically speaking and has very friendly bunny rabbits. The salt water is amazing. The park is clean and well-kept with friendly staff -- a refreshing stop.

We enjoyed our stay here. Site 19 backin with patio side very private. Well run beautiful park. We didn’t swim but the children swimming were having a blast. Water was cold. Our site was level, the hosts sell ice $3/bag. Nice walking ADA path across the street. We had water and electric but there are some FHU as well,

I'm so glad we drove to Bottomless Lake State Park. While the park and swimming facilities were all closed due to the coronavirus, it is possible to drive the road that encircles the lake. It is an oasis in a rather bleak landscape. We foudn it very interesting!

A lovely little campground that was unexpected after driving into this area. We were thinking that we would be camping in yet another slice of desert but this cute place is wonderfully rolling and the winding road adds to the adventure.
Definitely will be a revisit.

Not worth the stop at all. Just a basic lake with a rock backdrop which is kind of cool. The water is clear so if you want to swim it’s alright, but if your there for scenery or to hike skip it.

I am not going to lie the only reason that I knew about this place was because I saw it on Pinterest. So I added it to our "must stop list". It's kind of in the middle of nowhere! But once you drive down all the dirt roads and get there is is absolutely worth it! We went in October"after tourist season" so we had almost the whole place to ourselves! It cost $5 to enter the park which I thought was very reasonable. The lakes are beautiful! So many good photo ops! I think it would be a beautiful place to camp!

This place was awesome! I wish we had realized all the hiking and walking we could have done. We were not prepared at all, and still spent over 2 hours there! It was desolate, yet beautiful! In the middle of nowhere, there were small ponds and cliffs to enjoy!

Being raised in the Roswell area, this park was a regular stop in the summer. Though there have been added camping areas and paved roads, the old park building are in need of TLC. Since this was the off season, I don't know if there is still a snack bar, or any of the "old" amenities. Hopefully so.

We were unsure about going here. Didn't think a lake was that special. First we went to the public beach. Paid $5 to enter. It was too crowded. We drove back to check out the other lakes. The entire area is a chain of lakes that really aren't lakes, they are like sinkholes. Reminded me of sinkholes in Mexico only red rocky dirt. Really spectacular. Worth the side trip. Camping available too.

Park is only 12 miles from downtown Roswell. It's certainly worth the drive. Beautifully, clean surroundings. The water in the lake is Chris's clear during the summer paddleboats and lifeguards are available. This is my second trip this year to the lake

In spite of a torrential rain storm complete with thunder and lighting it was enjoyable to see some beautiful scenery in an otherwise non scenic journey. Definitely worth the detour!

Glad we drove to Bottomless Lake State Park and wondered around for a couple of hours. Most enjoyable part is the Mirror lake - don't miss it You can hike all the way down to the water. Pretty color especially with the contrast of red rock and blue sky.

From US Route 380, we drove at least 10 miles on Route 409 to Lea Lake..., it could have been more miles than that on a black top road which was more like a washboard sand road (frustrating and annoying)... the road is not something you want to take a motor home on unless you want to rearrange the contents and loosen the hardware and cabinets. After arriving at the campground, temperature of 102 degrees, we eagerly hooked up to the electrical power in the campground. Recent rains left muddy areas in low spots and the flies were clearly the majority of any living thing in the vicinity of Lea Lake. We checked out the bath house and swimming area at the lake - the water was clear but the covered pavilion looked as if it had turned into a aqua duct from a heavy rain.....lots of sand under the tables and walkway. The campground is a nice facility with adequate hookups, covered canopies with picnic tables and friendly camp hosts. The water spigot give every indication of very alkaline water so you might not want to fill up your fresh water tank. You will not find any interpretive material or visitor information at Lea Lake. If you want to know anything about the area, you need to get information from the internet or at Bottomless Lake State Park information center. We didn't stop there on the way to the campground so it's unknown as to what is in the visitor center. After a long day of driving in very hot weather, we were glad to be settled..even if it meant sharing it with a few flies.

Great campground at Lea Lake. Pretty cold at night and warm during the day. Gorgeous landscapes and sunset. Enjoyed trail walking. Visited Carlsbad Caverns and Roswell attractions while camped there.

This was an unexpected surprise. It was a beautiful campground, well kept. The name is a perfect description to the lakes in this canyon. Clear water, beautiful landscape, great facilities where you want to spend the day or spend the night. Would have spent a second night if we had know how great this place was going to be. Plan to go back!

Whenever I’m in the area I make it a point to stop. The scenery is beautiful. They have a new Boardwalk across from Lea Lake. The lake is cool clean and refreshing. If you don’t want to swim you can rent paddleboats that are well cared for. The campground itself is clean and I found the Volunteer hosts friendly and helpful.
Spend a day in Roswell. It’s only 12 miles away. If you haven’t seen “THE ALIENS” it’s a must. The art & historical museum are good. If you’re interested in tasting New Mexico wines and alien beer there’s a nice little place on second Street.

This was a awesome place to camp. The kids loved the beach to swim. The water was clear and clean. Good bathroom facilities with showers. Thank you to their staff for changing trashes regularly.

Definitely worth the stay, you would drive by and never know its hear. Rock formations, lake, beach and facilities are all great. Quiet and friendly folks. (Lake has a little odor from the alkaline-salt) Wonderful time!

Arrived to find the visitor centre closed, popped back a couple of times and even though there seemed to be a rangers vehicle outside the sign still said closed. The restrooms were disgusting and the door handle had been pulled off one of the doors. Drove round but all I got to see were flies, no scenery to speak of, worst US park I have been too, save your $5 and go somewhere else.

We drove to the right of the visitor center to skip the $5 fee. We just wanted to see the lakes. We saw a pretty cool one gated off to the right, but still pretty cool for a quick stop. Then at the top to the left there is parking. We went over the rails to get a better view...I'm not sure we were supposed to but other people did it so...oh well. There were a lot of flies & moth looking things that bit us. Just a warning. After that we kept driving & made another quick stop to the left to see 3 more lakes. The view from up there was probably the best. Cool little stop. & free :)

Fun little park and lakeside swimming hole great for the whole family to visit and cool off and enjoy an afternoon of swimming and sun worship

Lea lake is nothing fancy, but a good place to take the kids and beat the heat. In the cooler months, trout fishing is good. Hiking and mountain biking year round. I think it's still only 5 bucks a vehicle! Can scuba in Lea lake (90ft deep) to get certified as well.

Thank you Trip Advisor and the numerous reviews. After a long trip from Fredericksburg, TX the same day, it was a great stopover for us with our travel trailer.

It's incredible, amazing lake in the middle of the desert.!! Clean instalation, clean and beatty water. And the best price only 5 usd dólar for truck.

85 degrees middle of March '17. Beautiful Oasis and 360 views. Curious (?) attractions in nearby Roswell.

This was a place to stay. Although they had restrooms, they could use some scrubbing. There were rather large spiders in the restrooms and showers as well. The campsites were infested with ants. Make sure to take Seven Dust. It's a must. The areas where fishing was allowed wasn't worth it. There were tons of people swimming in the common area. They were all enjoying themselves. Of the four campsites we visited within two weeks, this was our least favourite - but it was ok. Once was enough for us, however. We hope you enjoy it if you go.

Really nice State Park. Facilities are clean and very well maintained. Very interesting area with marshes and water. The Bottomless Lake is beautiful and available for canoeing and swimming. Very unique place and park. Don't miss it if you want a good place to camp outside Roswell.

There is a campground at Bottomless State Park that we definitely want to return to. Seems mostly RV parking (not really sure if tent camping because we didn't ride around the camping sites) There is a nice beach & you could definitely enjoy a leisure kayak paddle in this not too large lake. There is a Nature walk which we enjoyed very much. Can't wait to return next year for a stay & observing the stars away from all the lights of the cities surrounding the area

We arrived early on a weekday morning and were very surprised to find so few people in the area. This is a lovely place to relax, unwind, put your feet up, have a picnic, go for a swim. You'll forget you're in the desert while you're there. It's an honors system for payment. There's no food to purchase but plenty of room to set up your own picnic.

Great for picture taking of rocky landscape but not so sure about swimming. When we went, the "lakes" were barely ponds (if that).

It was about 15-20 minutes outside of town. It's a nice drive and it's a few small lakes with some wildlife. Nice photo opportunities. Great way to get away from people and enjoy some nature.

Just a two day stop traveling through New Mexico. If we could've, we would've made it only one day stay in Roswell. The favorite thing or the best thing we saw was the Bottomless Lakes State park! They early-morning trip out there was fantastic. We then went to the UFO museum, not impressed!

After reading of places to visit in New Mexico, this was set as the destination for this year. Not far from town and very accessible to all vehicles, water was nice not to cold and with hot streams in between. Little beach for kids to enjoy the water and pet friendly that your dogs can enjoy the water as well. If you want to get away from the city and find a place that isn't to crowded this is the place to go.

It seems like a nice place for hikers and campers, but nothing much appealing about the rest. We just drove around and just took a look at a few small lakes and left. Not sure it is worth to see if you are not camping or hiking.

This lake is the clearest clean lake I have found in New mexico. nestled in the mountains the view is amazing. Their are covered pick-nick tables by the shore line that and you can walk right in the water. there is also a play ground and a place to play volleyball. The children can play in the water in the roped off area.. Non motorized boats can be on the rest of the lake. Our family will defiantly be going back. their is a $5 fee for day use. $8 for tent camping and I think $10 for motor-homes but I would check before coming.

Although I don’t think I would enjoy a stay, I found this location to be quite the treat during our adventure.
Not another soul to contend with, we were able to just park our car and trek across the terrain. We found a cliff where we could sit and find a moment of true soundlessness.
The lake looked powerfully calm, even though we didn’t choose to hike down.
A highly recommended stop for the mind-calming, grounding types.

Completely scenic and worth the drive. Sveral small lakes, grasslands and hiking. There looked lie lots of spots for rv's and camping. Would definitely go back!!

We didn't go to fish or take advantage of the facilities at the main lake...and they look like very nice facilities! We just wanted to see sinkhole lakes. Little did we know that the red rock geology of this area would make the sink hole lakes look so amazing. If you're within striking distance of this site, make sure you go!

We decided to visit after spending some time in Roswell. The drive was beautiful. We had a clear winter day and I recommend coming later in the afternoon when the setting sun is on the rocks. We didn't have time to do much here but it is worth driving out here to see the rocks and lakes.

We visited this place to just see what it was like. We drove around the whole area and stopped to see the lake. It was nice to look at.Just had some time to kill and was worth the drive to see.

Loved visiting Bottomless Lakes. This place is worth your time! You will love it. We enjoyed the birds and fox we saw too.

Nice group of lakes, ideal for swimming, a chilled day out or just relaxation. $5 per vehicle charge.

No alcohol allowed per sign at Lea Lake campground. No ground fires – I don’t know if this means you can bring an outdoor fireplace but the camp hosts had firewood and one had a visible portable fireplace. Odd layout without much privacy. Very quiet. We moved on and stayed elsewhere.

Bring bug spray, or you might end up spending all evening in your tent/RV. Really excellent scenery. Camped here after a day checking out Roswell. Solid amenities for camping.

Fantastic area with numerous small lakes and a fantastic campground. The rock layers were beautiful. We were looking for somewhere for our dog to run, the overlook to the east was perfect! You can see the whole camping area from it.

After spending a day in Carlsbad Caverns, visiting Roswell was the next best thing to do given that it only takes 1 hour to get there from Carlsbad. We thought of visiting downtown for the aliens was interesting, but we didn't find much there so we decided to go freewheeling on the highway and found signage that led us to the Bottomless Lakes State Park.
We met a elderly gentlemen working at the reception area of the welcome center. He's a jolly and entertaining fellow. He would tell you about the park and other interesting things. We got to see a few sink holes, one was very near the welcome center. It's beautiful, but you cannot swim in them. You can also explore hiking the terrain and take pictures of the "bottomless" lakes. They are not really bottomless, but the formation of the lake makes it appear so.
They have developed the area in Lea Lake where you can swim and do other water sports. There is a fee to enter the Lea Lake, didn't get to know how much it was because we decided not to swim.
If you have limited time to explore in the area, you can drive up the road and stop at the lookout point and take a picture with the entire lake on the background.

A $5. entry fee (honor box) gets you in to check out the sinks hole lakes. More like ponds but interesting indeed. There is RV parking and many "Day Use" options. Swimming, picnicking, cycling and hiking of course. The park is very well kept and has a small but informative visitors center. For camping reservations I think you have to call. They have full hooks and water and electric sites available under $20 a day.

Family trip in a camper - reserved a full hookup site online. Well kept facility by a crew of several park rangers that were visible, active, and friendly. Clean bathroom facilities and well maintained camp grounds. Had a great time at Lea Lake - pedal boats and swimming. No complaints at all. We will definitely go back to this little "gem" in the future.

Places to camp (with outhouses/ hookups etc), hike, mountain bike, grill, fish- search around for those hidden treasures! They are out there!
Nice getaway for some sight seeing and not too far of a drive. The hiking distances aren't very large but still peaceful. I saw some beautiful wildlife frolicking around during my short visit (birds/big birds/deer/mule or horse couldn't quite tell)
Beginner rock climbing practice all around for you brave souls!
The rocks are gorgeous if you are into geology as well

So short drive out of town well worth the trip. it's a bunch of little ponds and then one that has a swimming area. very pretty even if you don't go swimming.

We reserved a site to camp with our travel trailer for 3 nights but left early. 1st the good, the lake was full, a beautiful color and very scenic. Our side was full hookups,a row back from the lake. There are only a few with full hookups. There were several walking trails that are marked with signage. Neither the park ranger or hosts volunteered any information on the park. Now the bad-the lake was filthy with trash floating everywhere, especially in the public picnic table areas. We were going to take a trail walk but after a few feet, saw so much trash, discarded clothing etc, it just felt creepy. There's a sign saying campers only for the campground but we watched carloads of people headed to the campground bathroom and showers, we've been to other state parks and the hosts or rangers run them off. It was so transient, with people walking through our campsite, even by our picnic table that we didn't even leave our chairs out. At night someone was right at the front of our camper and took off when we turned the lights on. Not peaceful at all. We left after a day and a half, just didn't feel th a things were under supervision and care properly.

Small lakes linked underground next to nice small cliff. Only 15 minutes from Roswell. Short walks from one to another.

It is a very scenic drive through the desert to here then you come to what looks like an Oasis in the middle of the desert.

Very educational, but not an all day activity unless you plan to swim. Be sure to hike and hit all the trails. Bring plenty of water.

Great relief from the heat! Cold blue/clear water and tons of rec equipment. We wish we could stay more. It’s also the cheapest night stay imaginable at $12!!

We were in Roswell for 3 days and discovered Bottomless Lakes State Park. It was a great find! Sites are fairly close together that you can visit each lake to admire the scenery and the wildlife.

I loved my time here. Yeah there are flies like crazy but ur outdoors. I spent the summer camping cross country, back and forth, up and down. Worse bugs out there to worry about and this was my favorite place of all!! The most beautiful place I've ever seen.

A bit disappointed with this park.. We did find an area with nice campsites and a small pond/lake with roped off area for swimming. When you rode up the hill above the campground and looked at it from a distance, it was actually very pretty. Might be a good area for camping.

Unfortunately the rentals for the paddle boats closes at 3:30 daily:(. The attendant was very apologetic and kind though. Beautiful place.

We just took a trip out to see what the area looked like. It was quite a way out from town and many would think not worth the trip "just to take a look." If you go there to stay in an RV for a couple of days, it might well be a 4 or 5, rating.

It was worth it finding all the lakes- so beautiful. And there is one where you can swim and picnic. Great easy hikes in a beautiful, tucked away state park.

We drove to Bottomless Lakes from Roswell. I heard about Scuba diving options. Water levels appeared low, but sufficient for families to cool off on a very warm day. Paddle boats and Foam boards were available for rent at a reasonable price per hour. This was Labor Day weekend 2025. End of season. Campsites were limited. Shade was sparse.

Absolutely beautiful!!! Loved the red rock formations and that you can get out of the car and wonder around!!! All the small little lakes are worth swing!!! A must 20 min drive from Roswell!!!

The Lea Lake camping area is beautiful. Lots of walking space including a wetlands trail. Swimming and picnicking is available to campers and day users of the State Park. Driving through the Park provides many awesome views. Park host and staff are friendly and helpful. RV sites are very level and not too close; some are full hookup. Night sky is a wonder because of so little artificial light pollution - actually gazed at the Milky Way!

Excellent park. Probably the best lake area around. Pick nick tables available as well as grills. Dog friendly too. Highly recommend.

We only had a short visit but this area was beautiful. The campground looked very nice. I bet the beach is great in the summer. They have a small but informative visitor center with restrooms. Make sure you wear bug spray, they definitely had mosquitoes. They also have hiking trails.

Dont bother, just a few ponds with nothing to look at really. This state park just has some small dirty ponds that really arnt worth visiting

We happened to camp here in order to easily visit Roswell. Great park! Beautiful rock structures, easy to access, level sites, clean, clean bathrooms, affordable. Dogs do have to watch for painful cockleburrs. Will go back!

This is a very interesting place. Camped for 3 nights heading home to Texas from Nevada. We reserved one of the few full hook up sites. Need reservations for camping so plan ahead. Plenty of space between sites. Many pull thru. Campground has it's own beach front next to Leah Lake. Camp Host were nice people.

This is a great place to visit in Roswell. We go there frequently during the summer. It has a nice spot to swim, dive, and paddleboat for a relaxing day in the sun. Bring your own lunch - this place is a few miles outside of town. Not the most updated amenities, but a great place to camp and hangout.

Happened on this while on a trip west. Stopped for a couple hours. There are several trails for walking. Even though it was the winter, we saw several different birds. We also stopped in the visitor center and the people in there were very helpful. Is definitely worth a stop if you have some extra time.

We really enjoyed stopping by this state park on our vacation. it was an unplanned stop but our hotel front desk clerk told us about it. The lakes were very beautiful. It was the off season so the beach wasn't open but the facilities looked nice.

I wish I had known about this place to make sure I had time to spend a day and have a picnic. Bring a flotation device and spend time floating around this very cool lake. Be sure to have towels, fresh water, sunscreen and everything you need for the day. We went during a weekday and only a few people were around. It was free to enter but if you camp, it will be $5/day. The water is clear, clean and refreshing.

Camped on Lea lake, the largest of the lakes here. There is a nice swim beach and a mostly interesting visitor center. $10 to boondock, $14 with hookups.

Whether tent or MH camping this is a wonderful place to be. We camped for 5 days and loved being by the lake.

A series of small lakes in the area near Roswell. Nothing spectacular. Might be more interesting for geologists.

The lake is small but you can rent paddle boats, paddle boards etc. by the hour. Nice small playground area and many covered grilling areas all with picnic tables. Very nice for a family day or few days as you can tent camp or bring an RV!!

Loved swimming here! It was nice and cool! The shallow area was perfect for my 6 yr old. We went on a weekday so it wasn't busy, but I imagine the weekends can be packed.

Went here to round off our afternoon. Nice drive off the beaten path with great views. Is it really bottomless? Who’s to say. Just nice to see.

Had hook ups, wifi, and clean bath and showers. The lakes are pretty, we didn't swim as it was a tad to cool. We did I walk through the bird sanctuary and saw some nice wildlife. Take mosquito repellent, those buggers come out early in the season. Close to Roswell so you can go to town if you want. It's quite and the camp hosts were friendly and helpful.

Even though the lakes themselves are rather nice to look at the park was closed the buildings all the condemned with yellow tape up everywhere and busted out windows. It was very pretty just not well kept. Not sure if it was worth the long drive to see it.

Five colleagues and I finished business meetings in the early afternoon and chose this place for an excursion out of Roswell town. It was very impressive and beautiful. The rangers were very nice and the visitors center was super informative. The park has many shaded places with picnic and grills scattered all over which I thought was very nice. We did pick up and dispose of a lot of litter and thought that the park could charge more to staff up and take care of the policing. I definitely recommend.

After the kitch of the UFOs and aliens started wearing on us, my husband and I decided to stretch our legs. We loved exploring the lakes (which are really sinkholes). (You can only swim at one, too cold at this time of year anyway.) Really beautiful respite.

After spending a morning in Roswell and seeing everything on offer we thought we’d head out to bottomless lakes for some nature. There are actually around 7 sinkholes and the couple close to the visitor center were absolutely beautiful. Great short hikes to the top to take the perfect photograph and the rocks on the ground looked like glass in many places. Anyway, we ended up spending much longer here than we thought and definitely worth a drive when you are aliened out in Roswell.

Beautiful spot out in the desert, A few good hikes, Swimming in Lea Lake is nice, lakes are not bottomless.

we arrived at the park, mid day, and it happened to be a holiday, so the ranger station, info area was closed, but the park road was open and you could drive your vehicle, around the park...following the waterway, up and down the hills, gullies, etc... had to drive very slowly, and it was fun and you could park and walk around as well... be aware of snakes... didnt see any, saw some deer and alot of birds of various types in the lake...

We were blown away by how chilly and refreshing the water was and how clear it was - around 10 foot visibility. Full lifeguard staff, it's a great local's place that is welcoming to traveler's too!

Great attraction for anyone who appreciates landscape and vistas. Well worth the long drive. Pay close attention to directional arrows on signs.

We drove from Roswell to see this on a warm, sunny day in January. There is a Nature/Visitor's Center there too.

This has to be one of the best water places I've visited. The water is amazing! Is clear! It's Everytime you desire. And small dishes are swimming around you. We visited all water holes before heading to the lake. Theres no swimming nor diving in the holes but they are fun to go see. The view is amazing! I will definitely go back and I will definitely recommend it to anyone!

We stayed here one night and thought it was a nice park and the bottomless lakes were certainly neat to see. We stayed in a tent site and found it very easy to arrive when the office was closed and figure out how to pick a site & the cost of a site. We also enjoyed mountain biking at the nearby Skidrock trail. I wouldn't say it's a "must-see" or anywhere to venture off your route to see, but if you are looking for somewhere near Roswell to stay, this is a nice scenic place.

I love to go out to Bottomless Lakes for a swim across the lake a few times on a hot day in Chaves County

Don't skip the VC. It is small, but packed with information on the formation of the lakes, some of it interactive.

Short drive from Roswell, nice swimming area, picnic tables and restrooms. RV hook ups close by. Beautiful scenery..

Park ranger was super sweet. We got to the lake and it was off limits to out of staters but we still got to see some of the place. Definitely something I will camp out in the future when it opens.

We love this lake soo peaceful for families water clean and wonderful environment for families (no alcohol permitted) 2 volleyball courts, children playground and some beautiful sinkholes... It’s a place worth visiting I recommend it 100% and best of all only $5 per car... unfortunately we didn’t have time to camp but next time we are camping....

We asked the manager is it ok to swim. Answer yes. We were about to go in, regulars advised us not to as they said water is bad quality. We followed the later's advice.

We loved this place, warm salty water, great pedal boats for rent, swimming beach. picnic areas, We loved the sun and heat, playing in warm water,,,As a Military Retiree, she gave us a pedal boat for free, much thanks for that kindness

Stayed here for four nights three days at the campground. It’s a very pretty park with lakefront views. They do have a swimming area that me and my dog Orion walked. The rv sites close to the lake are 30 amps but we slept with windows open because there was a cool breeze blowing. The sites are very level and very spacious. Definitely would love to stay here again.

Bottomless lakes is about 12 miles east of Roswell. Short drive to get there. If your looking for peace and quiet, this is the place. Great place for riding bikes and/or camping.

We went to the Lea Lakes campground. It needs some refurbishing. Our campsite was large enough for two vehicles but had broken glass on the ground, Racoons tore our license plate holder off and we had to stay in the trailer because there were kamikaze mosquitos after me. Also, the bathroom was not the cleanest with feminine products openly in the trash the whole time we were there. Won't be back.

River road will get you there, without going up the steep hill. You can see some birds, ducks, cows, and salt flats. Ends out by the bottom road turn off, by fishing lakes, and Lazy Lagoon. Bottomless Lakes State Park great seen for pictures, camping and more.

Reservations are needed for campground and can be made online through the NM State Park website. The drive into the camp area was a little bumpy. Watch the curves! At the time we arrived the water was a beautiful aqua color with a clear sunny sky. The rest of our time there was overcast which gave us a nice break from the heat. The beach area was not crowded at all during our time here. Bring your kayak/canoe/SUP. They rent out pedal boats. The mosquitos were out around dusk, so be sure to have bug spray! We would definitely stay again.

Gorgeous lake and perfect for all kinds of swimmers. We spent a few hours in Roswell, and my kids were dying for a swim. Nice campsites too! Big and clean, easy pull through for our little trailer. Gorgeous sunset. Didn't get to see the tent sites. Clean enough bathrooms and outdoor showers for after you swim.

take the road to the left to view the area from up above before you drive to the botton (road on the right where sign takes you). you'll know about the fork once you are on the road to get to the park. great photo ops. you can pull you car into parking lot and over look the lake, campground. very pretty.

I think the main entrance was closed but there were signs to go straight. This worked out fine, but you couldn’t do a whole loop so we drove in several miles and then turned back around. This was a really great ending to our day in Roswell. We happened to time it for sunset … highly recommend for this time of day. There is an overlook to park and watch the sunset about a quarter of the way in.

Fun place to hike around and see the park. The lakes are beautiful ! Very nice quiet place to enjoy the quiet beauty and solitude of nature.

It is wild to see these wetlands and canyon lakes in the desert. Too scared to jump in the 100-feet deep water, I will still definitely be back to this area. Absolutely breathtaking, a wonderful oasis!

The main swimming hole (where I’m from we’d call it that, not a lake) is well-maintained, with attractive sheltered area. Beyond that area, ample room for non-motorized boating/paddling. In-season, there’s a rental shack (for paddle boards and small paddle-boats). Outdoor showers to rinse off after a swim, clean washrooms, even electrical outlets in some areas of the attractive, sheltered stone picnic area.
Very dog-friendly, no one had an issue with him off-leash or swimming in the lake. No lifeguards but if small kids stay on the edge (supervised by someone) they’ll be fine... it doesn’t get more than 5 feet deep until far middle or close to the floating cordoned-off area. The water is cool and soft sandy beach area safe to walk in bare feet.
Great view of hills, and you’ll enjoy the variety of dragonflies from Spring to Fall. Plenty of parking!

This is a nice and quiet state park campground in the winter months. We really enjoyed the lake view from our spot. RV spots nice and level. Camp host was kind. Hardly 1/2 full in January. We enjoyed long walks to the other little "lakes" or springs. Free *good* WiFi INSIDE the campground boundaries. Bathrooms needed a good cleaning, and showers are the push button kind. We were thinking before we got there that we might drop our kayak into the lake but once we got there realized its a bit small for kayaking:)

Visitor's Center open 9-4 pm but you can drive through Refuge until dark. Definitely worth getting out at overlooks and trail heads to see up close some of the nature life, animals and flowers. Cranes and geese abound. Even if you just have 45 mins. to an hour the 6 mile loop drive takes you through the diverse habitats.

Spent two weeks at the campground on Lea lake. The state park is a big loop, two fishing ponds, visitors center and a mountain bike trail.
We did see one roadrunner and had a raccoon check out my cooler in the back of my truck.
Awesome sunrises and sunsets, also great views of Capitan Peak and Sacramento mountain range.

While in Roswell decided to check out Bottomless "Lake". More like a pond with only 2 sides accessible. There was a area roped off for swimming which didn't make sense since it wasn't big enough for anything over a canoe. There were rv sites which might be fun for a weekend but boring beyond that. The lake is about 30 east of Roswell so if you have nothing to do for a couple hours this would be the trip.

Went to Roswell to see my daughter play the harp in the Roswell Symphony. While there went to Bottomless Lakes with the grand-kids. There are some great hiking trails here. We were able to get our daily 6 mile hike in here. Went to the lakes and had a picnic and then swam in the lake with the kids. A great little outing at a great venue.

Figured we were out and about so drove through the area. Lakes were pretty dry, however, nice road and on the way out to Dexter they have a really nice campground for RVs.

While the water level in the bottomless lakes was very low, my Dad and I were still able to notice the "trick of the eye" created by plants in the lake giving the body of water its bottomless appearance. Easy drive to the lakes. Do not get discouraged in thinking how far must I drive to see this later?

Very quiet place. Good hiking and camping. Lots of wildlife there. Got great pictures of a Hawk on a tree limb. No store for miles, so stock up and have fun.

We just wished we would have found this earlier in our time living in NM. The day we visited it was very hot and we had two dogs with us so we didn't explore all of the hiking trails the place has to offer. The highlight for us was the swimming pool - Lea lake. Near the lake are covered BBQ areas, sand volleyball, and shaded areas and a beach. We hung out on the other side of the lake and played with the pups in the water. A great place to take the family and camp. It would be so fun to get a big group there camping and hanging out in the lake all day. Be sure to bring some noodles or pool floats and you can relax in the salty blue water. Make sure to bring plenty of water and snacks, as we didn't see anything for purchase close. They rent kayaks, paddle boats, and life jackets. A lifejacket is also perfect to put on like a diaper and float around in!
Great experience and the dogs LOVED IT! Get there early if u want a table. Stop and ask the park ranger for recommendations. The other lakes aren't as cool.

I went with my Rottweiler in the late afternoon. It was smaller than I imagined, but still had some pretty cool sites- along with the drive down. The Lazy Lagoon and the other smaller lakes didn't have as much water as I had seen in pictures- so that was a little disappointing. Overall, we enjoyed the small hikes up and down getting photographs. I recommend going in the morning when it's not as hot though. Definitely think it's a nice place to stop if you have time.

Almost missed this little jewel in our journey across America, so glad we turned off the road. It's simply beautiful and luckily we had amazing weather. Lovely views and s great viewing point, don't miss it x

We stayed in the RV campground in one of the lakeside sites. Beautiful and quiet...especially in January. Not sure what it would be like when the kids are out of school as those sites are near the roped off swimming area. All in all, not a bad place to camp.

Our boys had a nice time preparing for Will's elopment. They spent the day hiking and talking. It brought us all back to good times as a family.

Just what we were looking for. Not crowded or commercialized. Just a great little natural phenomenon Lake to be enjoyed by everyone including families with children. Already planning our next trip

It took two trips to finally reach the park thanks to a GPS wanting to take me across roads that obviously did not exist but it was well worth the effort. Rounding a curve and seeing Lazy Lagoon for the first time took my breath away. The rest of the lakes were little gems obvious from the road but more fully experienced on a gentle hike across a well-maintained trail. It would have been nice to also experience the waters with a swim in Lea Lake but the weather was not suitable.
A volunteer host had suggested I would be more comfortable camping at the Lea Lake campground due to the bathhouse (flush toilets and showers). Alas, the shower was incredibly cold. I don't know if it was supposed to get hot or at least warm and being in a desert, I was not going to just let water run in hopes that it would get warmer. But the bathhouse was clean and easily accessible in the night even from the farthest site, which I occupied. As a solo female camper who had just driven 30 hours cross-country with two small dogs, I was glad I had spent a night there. Once rested, I and my wee ones set out to see more.
I explored the three other primitive campgrounds while hiking to see the lakes up close. Vault toilets were amply located and incredibly clean. Each site had a covered picnic table. There were only a few camp sites occupied and I decided to spend a second night in Devil's Inkwell campground. The beauty. The quiet. It was wonderful.
I was there before Memorial Day so I do not know what the summer crowds may be like. However, as it stands, Bottomless Lakes State Park is now among my top 5 favorite camping locations.

We camped here while we were visiting Roswell, NM. The park is conveniently located and cheaper than RV parks in town. We were able to reserve a site with water, electricity and sewer connection. We were there in September so the weather wasn't conducive to swimming, but the park has a very nice lake with a swimming beach and beach house for changing. The price is very reasonable and the facilities were in good condition.

Here is a place you can go to refresh yourself in those Hot New Mexico days. A unique experience; they aren't actually lake but natural sink holes that have filled with water and that are fed by underground water system.

This is an excellent place to view the scenery and some wildlife in the Roswell area. The Visitors Center has a lot of interesting information, would be a fun place for families to visit.

Love the lake. The water is cool and clear on a hot day. They have an area roped off for small children. Paddle boards and non-motorized boats can be rented. You can also take your own to use. Great beach areas. You can hike the area and you can easily see wildlife in and around the water.

While driving toward Roswell, I saw a sign for this park and decided to take a detour based on the name of the park. I'm glad we did because it was an awesome sight. There are many sinkholes here that were formed from collapsing caves in the gypsum. The lakes range from a depth of 18 feet to 90 feet. We enjoyed visiting with an older gentleman at the desk and then driving up above the largest lake to see it from above. Other than the heat and flies, we enjoyed our visit.

Very nice winter camping with electric and water in the desert near Roswell NM. It’s quiet in the wintertime and a great little spot to stay for a few days

There are a couple of campsites near or next to the lake. The lake is used a lot by scuba divers. The campsites are basic but all is there, clean toilets and showers. It is almost like staying at an oasis in the middle of the desert.

Stayed over night, in a tent. The spots were nice they had water, Electricity, Covered patio with a picnic table and a bbq pit. The restrooms were pretty clean and the are around the lake also looked clean. We liked the cash system thought it was nice and honorable. We paid online which we liked the option to secure a spot since we drove far. Worth the Drive out there to camp. The stars at night were beautiful because of how far out the location is. It got really cold at night and the lake awoke with steam rising off the surface, quite the sight to see.

Absolutely stunning!, I thought this would be a quick stop and maybe have a picnic on a bench by a lake but this was truly a breathtaking experience! You could spend as little or as much time as you want and it was no need to hike, we're not hikers. We're able to drive from each Cenote to the next. Driving path was clear parking was perfect at each spot you were able to stop your car get out and look around as much as you'd like. There was even some nice steps down to one of the main ones! The landscape was so diverse, I had no idea such beautiful place was so close to roswell! And at the end the big lake we were surprised to see so many people swimming and fishing in it there was picnic areas and showers have a little paddle boats you could run they even I had life vest available if needed. I would consider this an absolute must do if you have time. By far the best part of us visiting Roswell. Just about 20 minutes away from the downtown area.

This place got rave reviews from the locals, but I found it rather boring. There is a swimming lake with plenty of BBQ spots but not much else.

So wonderful to have this lake so close with plenty of tables a GREAT day was had by all. Good fishing in the wells places to camp come join in the fun

R.V. area is very good; level spaces with gravel. Really wanted to enjoy a weekend of fishing. Visitor center gave us 2 areas to fish. First area was clean, though difficult for a disabled person to get to. No fish there. Moved to the second place........yuck. moss was solid about 18 inches thick and went from the bank to about 20 feet out. Every cast was followed by several minutes of cleaning green slime from my line!!!!!! Not my idea of fun.
If you just need rv parking, no worries, but don't expect to relax at the "lakes" ponds while fishing.

I wish I had gone when it was a little cooler but I enjoyed walking the trail. Dog friendly. The main lake had lots of tables and shaded picnic tables. Water available at at least one of the smaller water areas.

This state park is home to threatened fish species, a wetlands park and has free wifi! Did I mention swimming in 70 foot deep sinkholes? Its beautiful, charming and can be primitive as well if you choose! Visit the beauty of this state park!

This was a point in our road trip that we didn't guarantee camping. We were just passing through NM on a Sunday and needed a place to park our truck to sleep out of at night. I was going to reserve a camping spot online for $18 (after fees and such) but decided to just get there and find out. This road trip took place in mid November and I was sure that the campsite wasn't at capacity like it possibly could be in summer.
When we pulled up to the park entrance, we had drove for over 9hrs and we were tired. There was no one on duty so we followed the instructions at the camping self serve station and only paid $10 to tent camp. We drove around the tent camping to find a spot that was suitable. We didn't necessarily need a lake view, and my man wanted privacy. There was no visible guests in tent camping anywhere! We were pretty alone anyways. We parked and camped out of the back of the truck camper shell. There was a picnic table, shelter and a bathroom nearby.
It was super cold when we got out of the truck. We quickly added or thermal layers, beanies and gloves. The night we arrived at this site was during a super full moon. Since my man and I wanted to have fun with the idea that we were near Roswell we had our music on late and danced under the moonlight. The light from the moon illuminated everything. The stars were visible, but the moon was so bright it was hard to see some celestial landmarks or look for shooting stars.
The next morning we just packed up and drive out of the park. We were maybe 10 min away from Roswell where we had breakfast, grabbed a quick alien souvenir and started the next day of traveling.

I took 4 teenage boys to Bottomless Lakes for a day trip. It is a State Park so the cost is $5 per vehicle for a day pass. The boys really had a good time swimming & playing in the lake. There are paddle boats & paddle boards for rent. We did not get any but that is an option. The lake is beautiful but the boys did say it is pretty trashy as they swam around in it. It was an enjoyable day. There are clean picnic areas where I hung out in the shade enjoying the cool breeze. There are restroom/changing rooms on site. Overall it was a good outing for us.

On local recommendation we headed out for a swim to cool off and were surprised to find a well facilitated swimming hole with camping and WiFi
Well done

Interesting places to visit if you are in the area such as state parks, bicycle trails and auto museum

We just spent the last 5 days camping (RV) here (site 26). Since we were there Sunday - Friday it was quiet. We heard it gets more crowded on the weekends and between Memorial Day and Labor Day. The lake is pristine. We brought a kayak and we the only ones out there. We have 2 dogs and most people had dogs. They were all well behaved and quiet. One negative to the campground is that one day there were lots of flys and mosquitos. It was a hot day. We read about that from some other reviews. It only happened one day out of five. Overall the grounds were clean but the trashcans were overflowing. I think they only empty them once a week. We will certainly come here again.

My bf and I spent an afternoon there and highly recommend it. We watched the sunset from our pick up truck, view was wonderful, peaceful place.

Nice campground with a good swimming area. I expected the day use bathrooms to be cleaner due to the off season. The CG showers were a bit grungy but the water was hot. The prices are very reasonable for tent campers. There is no firewood so bring your own to use in the camp grill.

Wife and I visited during her 50th High School Reunion. She had gone there when she lived in Roswell in the 50's and 60's. I thought I had gone with her after she lost her husband but no and the lakes are unusual and worth the trip out of town on a couple hour trip.

This park has some interesting features, and a couple of nice hikes. But your visit needs to be timed properly. If you're there during a bird migration, or when the weather calls for a swim or other water activities, this place would have more to offer. I seemed to catch it when nothing was going on.

Good camping facilities. Spaces are level and hook ups. Good shade cover over picnic tables.
Shower are clean.
Good access to Carlsbad Caverns National Park and downtown Roswell.

Was a neat place to walk around on this sunny winter day.. water a clear blue against the red colored rock. There looks like a small place to go swimming, did dip in my toes and the water felt nice - felt like Lake Superior on it’s warmest day! Will definitely go back and spend more time.

I have to say, this is a magical place, please take your time to take it all in. I was in Roswell for a few hours and had a long drive to Odessa. I had always wanted to visit these lakes and finally, I had a few hours left before the sun went down. The Bottomless Lakes State Park is only about 20 miles from Roswell and easy to get to as there are signs everywhere. The scenery is very picturesque and you will find, desert, hills, mountains, that red rock that defines the Southwest, cliffs, and blue blue sky.
My first stop was the Lazy Lagoon a slowly evaporating body of water, still nice to look at but seemed a little too muddy to take the time to go down the hill and check it out. It is still a very nice photo op if that's your thing. My second stop was the first of the actual Bottomless Lakes this one was called Cottonwood Lake. There are parking and campgrounds at all the lakes, some with facilities, but mostly rough camping at the smaller lakes. Cottonwood lake is carved out in the rocks and surrounded by rocky cliffs, be careful, if you want to swim you will need ropes and please use the buddy system as the lake is deep and its in a rocky depression in the ground. It is still a very really nice area to relax walk around and take photos of. Next up was Mirror Lake which is one lake with two sides separated by a sand bar. This lake is a little bigger than Cottonwood Lake and easier to walk around in. One side is flatter and the other side surrounded by rocky cliffs. The next lake was Inkwell lake, near the Devils inkwell campground. this lake is very small and it's literally a hole in the ground surrounded by cliffs, and it's hard to get to the water itself. Be careful here as it could be dangerous if you fall in (I almost did).
The next lake was Figure 8 Lake, like Mirror Lake its two lakes separated by a rocky causeway. A little bigger than Mirror lake and the water is easy to get to. This one I actually walked into a little on both sides, but be wary they have slippery clay bottoms. By the time I reached the 6th lake, Pasture Lake, it was stiflingly hot and the sun had eaten through my sunscreen which I had applied quite liberally, but nonetheless I was starting to get a serious sunburn. Pasture Lake was the last stop on my tour. Lost lake will have to wait for my next trip. Pasture lake is a small and shallow lake surround by sand and wild grasses, hence the name.
Lea Lake, the last Lake in the park is the largest of all the lakes. This is the big one with boating, swimming, a larger camping/RV area, where you can rent paddleboards and pedal boats. I went up to the hilltop and got some great views of the lake there. The trip was great if it wasn't for the massive sunburn I would have stayed a bit longer, but I had a long drive to Odessa and I had to get out of the sun. This is a really unique area of New Mexico, and you can spend a few hours or a few days there. It is worth the effort to get there.

We made RV site reservations ahead online - good thing we did - sites were large with WSE at the full sites $18 a day - showers were clean - didn’t care for the push bottom shower 🚿 but staying a week - swimming area is nice - too bad Nee Mexico Park service don’t take more pride in the cosmetics or grooming -

We had high hopes for this state park and planned to stay for a week with our RV but as soon as we pulled in we were overcome by Flies like we never have been before - and that's saying something when I'm an Aussie! It was a pretty 5 mile drive into the campground from the main road and I'm sure it's a great place under normal circumstances, but it was really hard to focus on or appreciate anything else when we were so overcome by the flies. In just 1 hour, my husband swatted 95 flies inside our RV just so we could eat dinner and we were too traumatized to even go outside! We packed up and left the next morning, and we're still swatting flies 3 days later! RV camping is cheap $18 for water, electric, sewer site. We understand the flies are excessive due to heavy August rains, low lake levels, the dairy farm and fish hatchery nearby. As long as the flies aren't around, we're sure this would be a really nice place to visit. Otherwise, it will drive you CRAZY!

Beautiful park oasis just a short drive from Roswell. Trails are well marked, scenery and bird life are abundant. Park office/museum very informative about depth of the bottomless lakes spread like gems on a necklace throughout the park. If you take time to complete the circle drive around the park, the road will take you up to a high vista overview.

Really don’t understand the good reviews. It’s just a basic lake with okay scenery. I was looking forward to hiking but didn’t see the point based on what it had to offer. Wouldn’t go out of my way to come back.

We stopped by for a quick "toe dip" on a trip back from Ruidoso. It is a state park, so there are fees for day use, camping, etc. We have been here before in a similar situation. We have talked about coming out for a day long excursion or overnight camping, but we always seem to forget about it. It has bathroom facilities, picnic tables, and a playground. There are hookups for RV's as well, and I think tent camping also. I also believe they have pedal boats. They may have been stored at the time we were there. There did seem to be lots of gnats or some other such creature swarming us. The kids didn't seem to be bothered by them though as they waded in the water.

The visitor center is very nice,, lot's of information on area. We will definitely be back to camp..

Since our area is so dry, it's great to go to for a cooling swim. The shelter is very nice-stone covered and shaded.

A short drive East of Roswell, NM is a wonderful State Park. I camped at the RV campground near Lea Lake. The rates are excellent with water and electric. The shower was cold, but push the button about 20 times, and warm water will come out. The sites are very large and level. I did not need advanced reservations. There are first come first served sites and reserved sites.
The park itself is beautiful. I hiked on several trails and views birds. The desert sky is fantastic too. The lakes are clear and beautiful. It was winter when I was there, so no swimming. Sunsets and sunrises are fantastic. I could see so far because of the elevation.
The elevated walk across the street from Lea lake is level and could be done in a wheel chair.
My little dog loved going on walks. Remember to pick up after your dog in the campgrounds.

We wanted to visit Roswell and when looking for a campground found this state park. It was the original state park in New Mexico and is sitting in a desert oasis! It is about twelve miles south of Roswell a straight drive, turn on 2nd St and drive until you come to the park entrance on the right. You will come to a sign that points to the right, you can take this way, it Is pretty but very windy. If you stay on the road and go straight the road is straighter and much wider and ends up same place. Has a beautiful park and "lake" which is actually a sink hole, easy to get into sites and very clean showers and bathroom. Would recommend this campground to anyone.

It was a beautiful lake with beautiful surroundings. We visited off season but were pleasantly surprised that the restrooms were open and clean. The beach was clean and the sand was nice . There's a walking path with trail markings that was nice as well. A definite must see if in Roswell.

this was a quick morning time killer before our main attractions opened. the gps took me to the wrong entrance, the road just before the actual entrance. the big sign at the edge of the park by the previous side road was misleading. lots of range cows i utilized my cow whispering skills to get cow kisses from the baby cows.when we got to the actual park it was neat to see what looked like salt flats turned out to be seaweed algea almost like it fused with the dirt. remains of stuck insects and fish in early fossil stage before they get covered b sands of time. the ponds at the sink holes were quiet and beautiful layers or rock and sediment lined the holes. we were there around 9am sat. no one around except 1 tent. i believe it was $5 self pay stations for day pass.

After having multiple locals suggest this spot to us, we went on a short drive outside of town to check it out. It was around 4 on a weeknight so other than one other person we pretty much had the park to ourselves.
When you first arrive, it can be a bit confusing as you can’t really see any of the sinkholes from the road. You’ll need to pull off at the same entrance as the visitor center and continue to the right along a small road with pullouts. Each sinkhole is very pretty and cool, but my favorite was the one you could walk down to the waters edge from a staircase. This isn’t necessary to get a nice view, however.
Overall, we spent about an hour driving to each one and then driving around the park. It was so quiet and serene. Highly recommend!

My husband and I drove and visited and it was very relaxing. We watched the sun set over lazy lagoon and it was relaxing. Would definitely recommend just for the view.

We have enjoyed trips to bottomless lakes while in NM. It is a series of lakes, but you can only swim in one. We like to hike out there with our dogs. Definitely worth the drive out of town to see. Bring water, the concession stands out there are no longer open and there are no convenience stores nearby.

This is a very good place to take the family for water fun and picnics, it is said that the main Lea Lake is bottomless.....maybe it is or not....it is a good place to go to

Visited in the summer with some friends, totally unexpected! Found a nice secluded camping spot with toilets and bins! Then came across the massive lake where we hired a pedalo and paddle board! So much fun and very friendly staff :) beautiful place, wish we could have stayed for more than one night!

We met up had good association, good manners, good food and scenic views of the lea lake, and cliffs of red, white rocks.

Weather you want to swim or go for a hike this is THE PLACE to go! The staff is always helpful and ready to answer any question you may have.

I'm from South Texas. The ONLY salt water I've ever seen is the Gulf. It's always murky and dark. So when my friend took me to Bottomless Lakes I stood in amazement staring down at my feet while I was waist deep in the water. It was so clear it was absolutely beautiful. I'm so grateful for actually seeing it first hand.

October was a great time to go! I was there for some hiking and a few nights of car camping, and I was happy with getting a quiet little campsite all to myself. Fair warning, there was a critter who I can only say sounded like a bobcat lying in wait whilst I was strolling from the bathroom at night... it could have been a human messing with me, or something spoooooky, but it scared the bejesus outta me! Not enough for me to go elsewhere, mind you.

we went out to the "bottomless lake" nice drive into the area, HOWEVER, i think someone drained the lake, cause you could definately see the bottom!!

I came here to geocache, there are some really creative geocaches in this park. The drive around is pretty and the lakes are nice.

I come to know from smaller hotel where I stayed that people visit this lake for Bird watch. I went with okay thoughts however I like this place and I can say one can spend some time on weekend when visiting Roswell.

I used to swim & fish here as a child; this is where I first heard Elvis sing (on a jukebox.) I doubt that a jukebox is still here but it is a great place to visit because of its history.

I know it is through no fault of the park but it was sad to see the water levels so low. Someday maybe I can catch it when the state is not plagued by drought.

Very nice campsite. Shade pavilion water and electric. Showers are hot after a while. Showers are push button on a timer. No temperature control.

Staying in Roswell for a couple of nights so we ventured out here. Very interesting geology, cenotes (not bottomless) and a swell hiking path. Was not aware of the history of this park (oldest in NM ?) and glad we drove out there.

The pictures on the internet, I don't know were they were taken. We nowhere could catch a glimpse from above, and so our visit (driven by search for photo options) was disappointment. Hardly any information availbe on the web. Regret the detour.

“Great photo opts” When we were waiting for our rental car at the Roswell airport, we noticed an for this state park. We were very glad to have seen both the ad and then the park. Nestled within the park are several blue-green water lakes caused by sinkholes. Some are 90 foot deep. Around the sandy beach of Lea Lake are sheltered picnic grounds and a roped off wadding area for children. Our favorite photo was taken at Inkwell Lake. So, bring a picnic and enjoy these natural settings. Caution---hold on to small children, especially at Inkwell Lake.

Several sections of this park along a state highway. I did the approximate one mile hiking trail over the wetlands and spring fed stream and walked around many of the small lakes and the swimming area . Don't miss going up on the cap rock viewing area. Worth a the short drive.

Beware camping in a tent.! . We witnessed more than 4 raccoons trying to get to our campsite throughout the night.. We have a small dog and was fearful because she was way smaller than the raccoons.. Had to sleep in the car and cut our two night stay short do to the rampant raccoon problem

When I first heard about this place I was does it really lake in desert but I thought let's give a try to spend one evening and i tell you I enjoyed with friends and all I can say give a try and you may like it too

Nice place to walk around and exercise the dog! Bathrooms were closed however. Nice playground. Great views!

most of the water was hard to see except the big lake. Interesting landscape and nice picnic area. Good rate for camping but no one there in the winter

I’ve been to this park before and I’ve been to the campground in the park as well. This park is phenomenal !! The rock formations in the water formation ponds are fantastic there’s awesome hiking and it’s just a hell of a lot of fun. In the summer you can swim in one of the lakes as well as scuba dive. Just a great place !!!!

I got my swimming in at the bottomless lakes with the tiny minnows and my family. There is an area with lifeguards who watch over the visitors of this state park. The facilities are sufficient. It's the experience of swimming in the natural waters that is enjoyable. Lots of flies, but if that doesn't bother you, then check it out.

The staff at the visitor center was so very nice and helpful. I was greeted with a smile and a hello how can I help you today. They gave me a great map an explanation of the area and helpful tips. The area was beautiful and you can swim at Lea lake but the water is so very cold. There is dry camping with access able bath rooms easily located. I'd go back and spend more time there.

Several people brought their pets, but the ground is so hot, it can really torture an animal's feet. Please be aware before you bring your dog. The place is really fun and a delightful surprise in this otherwise dry land.

A gem in the middle of the desert. Just a short drive from Roswell and well worth it
A series of sinkholes created by collapsing gypsum caves. The largest is Lea Lake, crystal clear and 65 degrees. Spring fed, and empties into the Pecos River. There are paddleboat, paddleboard and life jacket rentals.Great to cool down in the summer heat. Recommend just submerging, and in a minute the temp is just right. Downside is the flies. Five dollars a car to get in. Nice RV area.

It showed to pay $5 per car, but I saw other car didn’t display the receipt on the windshield.
The map sign was too blurry to be read clearly.
When we walked on the trail, we all got bitten by something like flies.

We drove into the park just before sunset. The pictures do not do this place justice, just cannot capture the views. We enjoyed exploring the park. Upon exiting, we saw some deer grazing. A peaceful serene look at natural landscape.

This quiet and peaceful park is just the right size. Simple with really nice parking pads and picnic tables with overhead shelter, water and electric. The lake was on one end of the camp and there was a nice place for tents as well. We spent two nights here. The camp ground host was very nice. Windy and cold once the sun went down but that was to be expected. Free wifi at our site was a real bonus. Thanks NM State Parks!

Visited in the early spring when severe weather came through. Hosts did an excellent job of making sure everyone was safe and kept informed of weather developments. Super helpful! Nicest hosts I've met so far. Would definitely stay here again.

It was ok. Some of the lakes are stagnant and they smell pretty bad. They are doing some upgrades by the main lake. Not much to see here except the water holes.

We are working nearby at the NWR and decided to visit the state park in order to be better informed when we were visited by tourists at the refuge. We were so excited to see such a well run park with amenities such as camping and a swimming beach. Their visitor center is informative. The park in general is clean, the rangers so helpful. There are several sinkholes on the grounds, full of water reflecting the blue sky above. There is also several places in which to picnic and hike. Even if you are not camping, this is a good place to visit, maybe take a swim on a hot NM day.

Very clean, bathrooms and showers clean, nice campground hosts, level sites. No trees, but that is typical for this area.

We had a ton of fun on the rented pedal boats and paddle boards and our dog had the best time! The only missing star is for the flies. Ugh. SO. MANY. FLIES. But we'll still be happy to come back sometime!

This park has a visitor center 2 trails, a short half a mile wetland trail near the campground and a longer 3.5 mile biking and walking trail above the campground. Swimming, bathrooms and hookpus. The visitor center may not always be opened, but there are pit toilets outside and a short trail to a small sinkhole which is very scenic. Weekdays are less crowded. $5 fee for visitors per car. This park is about 25 miles from Roswell so it is best to buy your supplies there before coming into the park. Not much near the park as far as shops.
Lea lake campground Nice campground, but can be crowded. Better sites further from the water. A popular swimming hole so weekends could be busy with day visitors. Electricity and water as well as tent sites. Flies can be abundant since there are cows around and probably a feedlot (based on the smell in early morning). Bathrooms are ok and relatively clean. Good Wifi. Campground host will give you a map of the park. Beware of the raccoons at night if you are cooking outdoors. Don’t leave any food or items that may smell of food.
Nice wetland trail near the campground, .5 of a mile and half of that is a boardwalk. Birds stop over in Spring and Fall migration, but worth checking it out any time. The road above the park offers nice views of the campground and surrounding area. Longer 3.5 mile bike and walking trail is above the campground. You have to drive to get there.

You are in for a surprise when you visit this State Park, The space for RV and camping is limited , so you will need to make reservation . It is a good day trip if you are in Roswell and great for children to wade, swim and play in the water.

Nice Quiet Lake i wish we had parked here for the day we toured Roswell. We picniced in the shelter and the boys swam in the big lake. I think it would be fun to jump off the cliffs into some of the smaller ponds..We will stay here our next trip through Roswell

As a Roswell resident I have frequented Bottomless Lakes for fishing and swimming. Some of the smaller lakes are stocked during the winter and offer close fishing. In the summer Lea lake is the one to visit. They offer swimming, diving, paddle boards and paddle boats. Nice for a day trip on those hot summer days.

Went to Bottomless lake on a whim while in Roswell. Did not disappoint. Pictures don’t do it justice. The weather was nice with few clouds when I went.

I was pleasantly surprised by this little park. Very unusual lakes, some being inhospitable to life right next to it hers with teaming life. There are some short trails about the area.too.

We had a great time here camping in an RV. The kids had fun swimming and playing at the park. The host was very helpful and so friendly. She gave our kids bubbles, a frisbee and playing cards.

Although it was very hot, it was a sight to see. Words and pictures can not depict the beauty of it. You must go to understand.

There are a number of lakes at this state park but you can only swim in one. You can fish in some of them, be sure to check at visitor center for which ones. There are lifeguards during the summer at the lake for swimming and you can rent peddleboats and paddle boards. Or take your own kayak, canoe, or SUP. There are picnic tables, sand volleyball courts, restrooms, and showers. Some people do some scuba diving here. There are camp sights. A paved road goes around the park that's a good challenge for bicyclists. I believe there is a trail for Mountain biking as well.

We Found a Camp site not far from the lagoon we were tent camping the area has a lot of dry plants Very desert like .dry hot
We don’t go swimming and we don’t Spend the night! We went to a hotel it was just to HOT but we loved Rowell NM

Beautiful and refreshing destination in the drab surroundings. Park is outstanding with covered shad structures.

The Bottomless Lakes are truly beautiful - the primary lake has a great backdrop of stone. I am from Michigan and am used to the Great Lakes. I anticipated an oasis in the desert based on the name, but it is not that at all. Some of the smaller "lakes" dry out during the summer months - you could easily do laps in this lake. The water is VERY salty, so make sure to rinse off after swimming - you will actually see a ring of salt crust on your body from all of the salt! There are covered patios but you have to get there early. I have also noticed that there are available RV and camping sites, however I have not tried them myself.

It is what it is. A bottomless Lake with lots of room for swimming. Good for family and friends as well as couples who want to get away for the day. Just a half day or day trip with water.

My husband said he could hear banjo music on the drive out to the State Park but you have to get off the beaten path to find beauty. The water level was low and we did not see anyone or paddle boats while we were there. We almost missed it but we got out at one of the stops and there it was a beautiful bottomless round lake. When you are going back towards town stop at the welcome to Roswell sign. There is a safe place to stop for pictures.

Okay. A nice park. The bathrooms were not good
Three womens showers, 1 locked, 1 a trickle and 1 barely a trickle.
Mens showers: 3 Water was not warm...plenty of water but not warm
The park is nice...bathrooms need work and cleaning. There is a host getting a free site.
Nice walking trail. some nice long sites. Other than showers park is nice.

Stopped here for a couple days while traveling from Ca to Maine. Very nice Park. Was told it was the first NM Park and some of the history and geology by staff. We were here in the winter during the off season but the campground was at about 90% occupancy. Between Memorial Day to Labor Day it is very busy. Get your reservations for RV or tent camping early. Lake with beach, hiking trails, pavilion, play ground and Visitor Center in Park. Stone work was done in the 1930's by the CCC and is as rugged as all their other work. We have only been to a couple of NM State Parks but they were all very nice. Tax dollars are well spent here.

Stopped by for just a bit. We didn’t drive too far in but it looked like the water was down quite a bit. Some of the bodies of water had dried up. Stopped at one pond not too far from the entry and were swarmed by flies. Walked down to the water and was overwhelmed by a horrendous smell. Didn’t drive any further into the park after that.

We camped at Bottomless Lake State Park. The showers could have been cleaner. However it is a great place for families. There are paddle boats and swimming lake about 20 miles from Roswell. The landscape is stark but oddly pretty with it's blue sky and lake.

I feel like this is a hidden gem that not a ton of travelers know about. In total, there are 9 lakes, I believe. The lakes are nestled within the red rock. As you approach the park, you see the red rock but cannot see the small lakes. Once you are in the park, you can drive pretty close to each one and it is a short walk to each. Once there, you can climb a bit on the rocky edge to get different views. I'd say most of the spots are safe for individuals with limited mobility... several have only a 100 foot walk or so before you can see the beautiful water! For the biggest lake, there is an overlook you can drive to. You can step over the wooden railing and hike among the red rocks above the lake. Gorgeous views!

There are fees depending on what you want to do. All we wanted was to see the area and lakes so we just drove through and stopped at viewing areas. The Lazy Lagoon is pretty depleted however Lea Lake recreational area was full. I can see families spending full days there worth the fee to do it. There is swimming and nice picnic areas.

The bottomless lakes are awesome. The water is clean and clear. There is a nice beach with lifeguards on duty. Nice park for hiking.

The lake itself is gorgeous. Surrounded by great scenery and very nice people. However our campsite was a little badly kept and the bathrooms weren't in the best shape.

After a long trip this was a great place to have a picnic lunch, swim, and walk. Great spray off showers for after the swimming.
Suprising it is salt water I'm used to lakes like Michigan and canyon lake where its fresh. Definately recommend for families!

I had a wonderful time. I went with my daughter, her husband and two of my grandchildren. Aside from the flies( which are everywhere) it was really nice and somewhat peaceful. I enjoyed watching everyone just relax. A great place locally to just hang out.

Ranger Max helped us out with 80 young people on a mission trip. While we stayed in town at a church, we came to BLSP to shower every day. One day we stayed to swim and had a great time in the clear, refreshing water. The only drawback to our whole experience was the endless flies...

These sinkholes-turned-lakes are very interesting. Easy hiking is allowed next to and around the lakes to give you a beautiful view .

We just drove through, but there is camping available. There is no swimming in the lakes and the surrounding area is dry and uninviting.

We were not expecting to have such a great time when we visited this park. We ended up spending hours swimming, playing on the beach and playing with the kids on a rented paddle board. The key is to arrive early in the morning if you are there during the summer, especially on the weekend. We arrived around 9:30 and by 12:00 it was getting very crowded and HOT. There are picnic tables in the shade next to the beach but they were a pretty hot commodity when we were leaving just after lunch.

A few pretty lakes but nothing special. On the other hand there is not a lot of water around Roswell.

We decided to check out Bitter Lakes wildlife refuge as part of a southern NM road trip. It’s only 7 miles from Roswell, so we picked up Subway and drove out for a picnic with a view. The visitors center is really nice - cleanest public restrooms of the whole trip! They have a really nice 20 minute video about the refuge and there are many easy hiking trails as well as a driving tour around the lake. It was early in March so we didn’t see a ton of birds, but still saw plenty and just enjoyed the mild weather. There are picnic tables at the visitors center and another one along the driving tour route. I would highly recommend visiting here, but make sure you bring binoculars for the best views!

Its a great little park off the main roads so quiet and quaint. Nice facilities, wifi and an OK scenic setting BUT......:
The vegitation around most RV sites are grass-burrs. So if you have dogs and they walk on or in the vegitation they will be covered in terribly painful grass burrs.
Please be careful and do not allow them to step on any vegitation of you will spend hours with tweezers and a crying dog.
I keep my dogs on leashes but them standing, sniffing and peeing in grass is a common dog activity and you will regret this.

Driving from Roswell to find a lake in the hot, dry land. Flat with few plants, yeah! I thought, Bottimless Lake? First comes layers of sediment and a granite type rock rising out of this flat landscape. First come a series of smaller lakes. On the left comes this beautiful lake with swimming, boating, and beautiful facilities. Such a fun and cooling area.

Very interesting place. To see these sinkholes and campground was fascinating. There is a short hiking trail and a trail through the wetlands with a lot of information posted.

This place is awesome! The lakes are tucked into the Canyon with nice little camp sites. Bring repellent there are lots of mosquitos and flies.

My wife and I took a winter trip in our motor home, hoping to avoid some winter weather at our home in Colorado. On our second night out we stayed at Bottomless Lake State Park campground. New Mexico has a good set of State Parks that have camping for RVs. These sites are, in our opinion, well situated and cost effective. This means that we are able to get in and have electric at a reasonable cost. Electric is essential as we need to have continuous O2 machine operation. Even though the time of our visit was in January 2016, I've marked Feb in the field here. Apparently, I have waited too long before entering my review.

We Found a Camp site not far from the lagoon we were tent camping the area has a lot of dry plants Very desert like .dry hot
We don’t go swimming and we don’t Spend the night! We went to a hotel it was just to HOT but we loved Rowell NM

Hot just wanting to work on a nice tan this summer bottomless lakes national park is the place swing by enjoy there great recreational and sandy beach shore in Roswell Nm.

Usually when Roswell, NM is mentioned you don't think of breath taking scenery and wildlife. The Bottomless Lake is the exception. Unique sink hole and rock formations, panoramic views of open Plains and distant mountains, clear Lake waters and wildlife are all attractions here.
Unfortunately, the nicest views and hiking trails here are littered with trash - especially glass bottles, remnants of disrespectful party goers. Look past this and venture off the beaten path a little, you may find yourself pleasantly rewarded with surprisingly dramatic natural landscapes.

We drove out from Roswell and the road to the park was closed. Very disappointed. We couldn't actually visit the park because the entrance was closed.

...Excellent roads in and out of the Park...and very friendly GREETING at the Main Office...and Information Center...very informative and REST ROOMS are available and Cold Soda machine is always working...lots of TOURIST info' about the PARK and the region of the Southeastern State of New Mexico...and so I share. ...and so it goes...

This is a surprisingly good place to camp and hike for the weekend. The trails are well marked and the lakes are fun to explore.
The facilities are much better than often found in parks of similar size. The history and science/geology of the area is well explained in the visitors center and on the various signs around the park.
You will likely be surprised at what a nice little park this is. If you don't see a roadrunner, you're bound to hear a coyote howl at night. This is more than just a stop in the desert. It's a fun chance to explore the New Mexico outdoors.

We camped here for 3 days in our rv. The RV spots are spacious, water and 30amp. Reasonably priced, small campground which backs up to a small lake (cenote). Couple of options for hiking. Quiet and peaceful stay and only about 15 min drive to the town of Roswell.

Beautiful drive and amazing views. Make sure to stop by Bottomless Lakes (or even just drive around the park) if you are nearby.

This is a very nice place in a desert near Roswell.A cascade of a small lakes with a nice blue colour mabye bottomless named Devils inkwell and a big one Lee lake. There is a campground where we spent only one night. There is a water and electricity on site,24 hours hot shower and clean toilets.Swimming in Lee lake wes great, cool water in a hot day was a great rest in our traveling programme.
Not Much There
Not sure if we went to the wrong place or what but there is not much to see here. Maybe it is just a camping area.
