peaceful retreat

By Harry A I |

We visited in September, and few flowers were blooming. But the woods were lovely, mostly quiet, and we enjoyed it immensely. I'd highly recommend it as a way to connect with nature, escaping briefly from city life. The Evergreen Trail is a little steep at points, but fun. (A deer came within about 20 meters of us as we were walking along it.)

Not much to see on a rainy October day

By Susan V |

We drove in on a drizzly morning and decided not to stay, since there didn't seem to be much to see this time of year.

Great hiking area

By Ashlee S |

This was a nice walk to get out of the car for a bit. It probably would have been prettier if we weren't in between the spring and summer flower seasons.

Nice natural area to enjoy the outdoors

By GetOutTheMap |

Plenty of parking, beautiful scenery, port a potties. Fresh air and a tower at the top if you want to pay $6 for a strenuous stair climb, some fascinating Revolutionary War history, and spectaculars views of the Delaware. Paved path for bicycling.

Excellent!

By Alpwalker2013 |

This wooded, park-like preserve is a marvelous place to see and learn about native plants. Or you can simply enjoy strolling around, enjoying the scenery, and seeing whatever is in bloom at the time.

The preserve encloses three microclimates, as I understand it, so it accommodates quite a range of plants. The grounds are beautiful to explore on your own, but there is also an excellent walking tour every day (Tuesday through Sunday). The tours are conducted by very knowledgeable volunteers who are given a certain amount of leeway in what they cover, so it's even worthwhile taking the tour several times: you'll get a different perspective, and, depending on the time of year, may even get a very different tour from one day to the next.

The plant sales, which they have now extended throughout the season, are superb. We've come for the first day of the sale several times, and there is always a great range and selection of very robust plants. Knowledgeable volunteers will also help you with any questions you have.

Try to go in the spring, late April and early May, when the blubells are in bloom.

Superb Preservation Effort

By legraceb2014 |

IA second visit to this wildlife preserve was a different time of year so the delights of the first visit were doubled. The variety of woodland native flowering plants is amazing and lovely. There are numerous different paths, each one with its special treasure. Azeleas and rhododendrons were in spectacular bloom. There are also many quiet places just to sit and enjoy being there in sweet sounds of innumerable birds and aromas of blossoms.

By LeGenerale |

We should have known better. Arriving in early June, one would expect at least some of the wild flowers to be in bloom. So when arriving, we asked for recommended areas to visit. The response? "Just wander around". We did, for 25 minutes and managed to see two flowers. The rest of the place was virtually all green with no flowers to be seen. What's more, the condition of the trails varied from OK to "Get get your waders!" That said, if you're really interested, make sure to ask what's in bloom and where to find it. Otherwise, just leave. For us, it was a complete waste of time and money.

Any Season a Treat

By James S |

Bowman's Hill Wildlife Preserve is a magical spot. It's spectacular in the spring, but amazing any season.
It has free parking next to the plant store. You go into the little house and pay your admission to hike the well groomed trails. The house has a small gift shop and bird viewing station. In the basement is a nest and egg display.
The trails are easy to walk, no major hills. Spring is full of color, but fall is also beautiful, the pond is my favorite spot.
The preserve does a number of interesting class like mushroom identification or owls at night. You can also take a guided tour of the trails, the guide points out plants that you would miss alone.
The main house could use an upgrade. It's a bit worn and small. But overall it shouldn't be missed

Pure magic!!!

By Michael A |

This "living museum" is a treasure. Since 1934 it's been a place to go and enjoy the beauty of nature. A self-guided tour is great, but if you get the chance take a tour with one of the staff members who will be able to explain much more about this preserve and how unique it is. The diversity of plants, environments, birds and amphibians will inspire the child in everyone. Do yourself a favor and take time out of the "busy-ness" that can overtake you, and reconnect with the living earth...breathe in the scent of wildflowers and native trees...listen to the rushing water or the wind whispering overhead. Trust me, you'll be glad you did.

Owl Prowl anyone?

By Cabana-Boy-and-Girl |

What a unique and wonderful adventure. We gathered at 7:00 PM with about 10 other folks and our 3 guides and proceeded out into the darkness along the paved roads and walkways in search of the elusive owls. We knew what we were looking for because the walk was preceded by a 30 minutes introduction to the evening plans along with a slide show given by the Preserves Kelly Joslin. It's really dark without flashlights but your eyes need to become accustomed to the dark in order to see the critters you seek. 90 minutes later we returned to our starting point non the worse for the wear but a little more knowledgeable about owls. Great views of the stars when you are just standing out in the middle of no where listening and watching. Highly recommended but young kids might find it too spooky.

Beautiful, worthwhile gentle walk in nature.

By Cathy H |

I was with a friend who isn't that athletic and she and I could walk the well marked trails or you can take a tour that helps you get the most out of the trail. We did it on our own and enjoyed a serene and peaceful time in the beautiful nature they offer.

Relaxing, but wish there were more flowers

By Andrea C |

We visited the preserve last week (mid-may), thinking it would be a prefect time of year to enjoy the spring flowers. We were a little let down when we got there and didn't find much. However, we still made the most of our time and enjoyed the trails, the (very) lush and green leaves and ferns and the stillness of the creek. We packed a lunch which we enjoyed at a picnic table near the visitors center. The pond was closed for a wedding so we didnt get to check it out.

A Gem!

By Buddie98 |

A very impressive preserve with multiple walking trails through fields of wildflowers and woods. We saw so many different wildflowers during this peak bloom time - bluebells, trillium, jack-in-the-pulpit, mayflower, and more. Some beautiful pink native azaleas were also in bloom. The trails are well marked and have many benches along the way to sit and soak in the beauty. We also enjoyed the Penn's Wood area with native trees and a very cool moss garden (still under construction). We visited the day after a rainstorm and were concerned about mud, but no worries there! The trails are well maintained and even though they traverse the floodplain, we found very few puddles. A beautiful and peaceful place to explore, reflect, and enjoy!

Disappointed

By preciousness22 |

It was closed when we went on a Monday, but there was a plant sale taking place, so we were able to drive in. There really isn't much to see and aren't many flowers in bloom here, but I am sure in the blooming season, you can see more. There are walking trails and gardens to see. It is good if you want to get out and get some exercise on a nice day. It is located in New Hope, PA. I wish I could offer a better review, but where I live there are many botanical gardens and preserves that I can visit along with garden centers and shops that offer much more beautiful flowers and landscaping so my opinion is a bit bias because of that. I do try to visit gardens when I travel.

Nice Place

By Tom and Heather |

This is the second garden in the tri state area that we have been recently and it didn’t disappoint. There are many small trails in a small space. They have a map but it doesn’t seem to match up with what’s really there.

There is a small visitors center and gift shop. They have an area where you can observe birds enjoying feeders outside a big window. While the walk among the trails was very relaxing and enjoyable it would have been nice to have a little more signage about the surroundings.

When we first arrived we expected to get a trail map and have someone orient us about what there is. Although there was someone to take our admission ($8.00 adult) we had to ask for a map and she did not orient us to the area. In fact when I went back to the gift shop on my way out someone else coming in had to ask as well.

Birds and blooms at your fingertips

By Enjoylifepeacefully |

This was our second trip our first being 30 years ago to the to the tower. Oh but what a naturalist dream this wildflower preserve behold to who enters. We became members today and found the staff and volunteers very helpful and caring individuals.
The sitting room is almost a feeling of being in a tree top while watching the many birds at eye level almost a fingertip away , while feeding on suspended feeders. The plank room below was an education of bird nests of eggs and habitat.

Love this place.

By Rick M |

I probably rate this higher than most due to being able to still see my aunts, uncles and cousins all running around here laughing and having a great time.
Its one of the places I can go and reminisce of those days gone by but not so long ago wishing if just for a little while it was 1969 and I was but a kid once again.

Nature at it's best

By Dorothy S |

My sister and I decided to take an adventure into nature. What a pleasant surprise. Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve was an excellent start. There are numerous marked trails. A map is provided and the choice is yours. We decided to venture on the trail that would lead us to the Three arched stone bridge and the pond for our first attempt. If you love hiking or just walking in a serene atmosphere there is no better choice. There are places to sit and admire the stillness and the beauty. Definitly start early in the morning on warm to hot days so that you are almost
done before the sun gets too hot. Our day was magnificant and by l:00 p.m.we decided we would leave to come back on another day and again. Entrance fee is $6:00/person Srs $4:00/person.
There is something for everyone. I am sure you too will back. Definitly a lot of walking. Wear comfortable shoes.

Nice Visit

By davidaw516 |

Beautiful Flowers through out the preserve! Great place to take pictures and enjoy nature! Bring the family for a visit

beautiful and serene

By LoveCapeMay_10 |

Beautiful, serene, friendly. Lots of walking paths. We found many different kinds of birds and insects. Our favorite part was sitting by the windows and watching all the different birds feeding.

AMAZING

By Juan Burgos Maldonado |

Pure nature, has a lot of good spots, is secured always, free parking and good views at the park. lovely

Peaceful, interesting, history everywhere

By Mike Cavanaugh |

Thoroughly enjoyed the environment, the peaceful setting. After a walk through the area drove up to New Hope. Easy to get off of route 95. Rich revolutionary War history area(s) close by.

Nice walking trails

By Joyce L |

There weren't many blooming flowers to see when there in June, however there were different types of trees. I wish they were identified, which would have made the visit more interesting.

Serene, a place to be

By Birdy509 |

Beautiful, peaceful, retreat-like, a place to sit and read and watch, large selection of healthy looking native plants for sale, well maintained trails, biodiversity—just some of the comments made by members of my group.

Nice Walk

By Terri e |

Spend 45 mins walking the trails. Enjoyed the walk on a fall afternoon but no flowers were in bloom due to the season. The trails were easy to walk and there were not too many people walking around which was nice. Will be back in June to see the flowers.

Beautiful Place to Visit. Great Place to Have a Wedding

By AMG238 |

Our daughter and her husband chose this scenic venue for their wedding site because of its scenic impact and location. Tremendous place to visit; even more tremendous to have a wedding or other celebration. The volunteer staff was cordial and helpful. Plenty of room under the pavillion and enclosed tent extension. All said and done, everyone in attendance for the wedding and the reception were overwhelmingly satisfied by an affair to remember.

By Arline Zatz |

The first time I visited, I was greatly impressed with the wealth of wildflowers and the vivid colors. The next time, a couple of years later, the Preserve wasn't in good condition -- so you might want to call first to see if it has been taken care of.

Nope

By Nan |

Expected so much more! Basically just short walking trails in the woods. Paid 20 dollars to do it. Not many flowers in bloom so not much to see really.

Not Impressed

By P F B |

This is basically just a number of walking trails. There are a number of heavily wooded moderate walking trails, some steep. The trails are named after flowers, but there are almost no flowers along the way. There is a nursery with plants for sale. The pond is the highlight of the walk where I saw a few goldfinches and butterflies. Not sure there’s a reason to return, I can walk thru woods along the D&R Canal for free and there are other garden locations with many more flowers.

Nice hiking trails, but where were the wildflowers?

By AFamilyAdventurer |

Glad we went. We enjoyed the couple miles of hiking trails. But honestly we saw way more wildflowers on the nearby canal tow-path than we saw in this preserve, and I don't think the canal path was even trying. We got a lot of interesting paperwork from the helpful desk lady, but we couldn't find anything in there to tell us what the numbers on the little posts were that we saw all around.

I'm guessing this place is much more interesting in other seasons.

A botanist's dream

By Newhopejohn s |

By keeping the deer out, they have literally "preserved" the native plants of eastern PA. There are several trails to choose from, they are all awesome. Go slow and read the signs (small plaques) that tell you about what it is you are looking for. Stop by in the spring and fall for their native plant sales (they are fundraisers for the park). I have many specimens from there in my gardens around the corner at my home.

Lovely Trails to Beat Summer Heat

By Kate M |

The grounds are gorgeous! We cannot wait to head back in the fall when more flowers are in bloom. A creek runs through the property and trails range from wetlands to forested.
A nice way to spend a few hours in the afternoon.

Respite from Noise, Crowds of New Hope

By LettieS |

When you are sick of fighting the noise and crowds of New Hope, drive a short ways down the road to this preserve for some peace and quiet. Our 4th visit in about 15 years and not disappointed. Late spring afternoon with so much in bloom. The bluebell meadow was heavenly. Took hundreds of photos. Well maintained, wide trails, some are steep. Clean bathrooms. Friendly staff in gift shop/bookstore.

A lot of green .. not much color

By oibwed2011 |

We were a little disappointed in our visit to this place, because we were expecting to see a lot of beautiful and colorful flowers. We saw plenty of green plants during our multiple trail exploration, but didn't see hardly any wildflowers or pretty flowers. The pond area was very nice and we saw a couple turtles. Hoping to come back another time when the flowers are in full bloom.

Beautiful wildflowers and ponds!

By Laura J |

Beautiful wildflowers and ponds! It's nice because there are several offshoots so you can explore as much or as little as you like!

Beautiful, serene, and lovely

By kwitt16 |

The wildflower preserve is such a happy beautiful place not far from the river and the Delaware towpath. Its a longer walk or easy bike ride from New Hope. The walking trails all around the preserve are gorgeous and very well maintained and labeled. Its a great mini getaway where you will lose all sense of busyness and crowds. The flowers are lovely and be sure to visit often to see the changing seasons!

Beautiful place to walk in the woods

By N41B |

We happened on a nature walking tour which was beuatufl and informative. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Beautiful Trails, Hundreds of Native Plants, Good Birding

By Khiori |

The preserve is located on 134 acres set aside within Washington Crossing Historic Park for native plants to flourish. Surrounded by a high fence that opens automatically as your car approaches (to deter munching by certain other native species)! A short trail from the parking lot takes you to the Nature Center with displays and information (pay here). Trails are easy to follow from there. As it's actually on the side of Bowman's Hill there are up and down sections, plus a creek. If it's rained recently expect wet areas. During Spring and Fall Migration it's a great place for warblers. We go regularly just to see what's in bloom.

Scenic and Informational

By Sheila S |

A friend of mine is a photography buff who has spoken highly of this site, so when I spotted a Groupon offer for it, I quickly made my purchase. Too bad I hadn't checked beforehand to know the Visitor's Center isn't open on Mondays, so we couldn't obtain a map, but the trails were easy to follow anyway. Also, there are many large signs with explanations about the foliage, trees and insects in this natural setting, so we learned as well. Going this late in the season you will more than likely see mostly ferns and trees, as most of the blooms are gone, but we had a delightful walk through the heavily wooded areas and watched the sun sparkle on the creek. Wear good walking shows, bring sunscreen and bugspray (without DEET!) And be prepared for the humidity that hunkers over you - all part of the nature experience!

Flower preserve yes, special venue location, NO.

By Lucy168 |

Great for a flower preserve, but terrible as a venue. If you are considering planning an event here, don't! The event coordinator and his boss are totally clueless when it comes to providing information and service before and during the event. These two individuals made it difficult to plan our event and actually tried to get us to cancel as they couldn't be bothered even though this is their job and one of the main funding sources for this non-profit. I can't stress it any better than if you are planning on having an event here, don't walk away, RUN.

By jeffnscot |

Nice walking paths just outside downtown. Check out the pond. A few places to sit on various trails we trekked were lovely rest spots. Easy driving or biking distance from crazy traffic jam in downtown new hope, good place to unwind. Nice to see they make an effort to be handicap accessible on trails and restrooms. We saw native asters and grasses in bloom. Nominal entry fee of $5 for most guests. Discounts offered for student and seniors.

Worth a side trip

By bukagirl |

Even if you don't go all the way to the visitors center and pay to hike right by the entrance is a parking area and you can walk into the fields of wildflowers and enjoy the butterflies.
After that follow the road up there is a nursery and trails to hike.
Very wooded and peaceful.

By nylady21 |

Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve is a great place to visit anytime of the year. Spring and summer provide an abundance of native blooms. Fall is a chance to see the wide variety of colorful leaves. Winter's beauty is seen in the lacy tree branches, and occasionally, a fresh snowfall.

Beautiful autumn afternoon

By Maniscalki |

What a gorgeous afternoon hike my husband and I had in New Hope. We spent about an hour and a half walking around this beautiful preserve!

Great Family Time or for Couple's

By Maralize |

This is just a wonderful family or couple adventure to take! You can check out the preserve or walk the Hill at Bowman's Tower and see the magnificent Tower itself. But I have to warn you, it's quite a exercise walk! But the scenery is worth it all!

If you love nature, a must-see in the New Hope area!

By c00coo |

A lovely place to spend some time if you are in the New Hope area. With 2012's mild winter, I was able to see many types of flowers in bloom in early April. The preserve has a daily guided walk at 2:00 p.m. and it was delightful to learn about so many types of wildflowers and trees. Truly special place! For $5, a true bargain.

Beautiful!

By Oliveseeker |

I'm a seasoned outdoor person and found this place to be absolutely delightful. Was rainy a bit, so very quiet. The forest was just beautiful, trail maintenance great... You couldn't tell that this is heavily trafficked. Staff very welcoming, happy to share info. And it's enlightening to walk in a place where every plant is a native. I'll be back - became a member and will buy natives for my garden.

By fitlastic |

Great place to get to see native plants and flowers with knowledgeable guides

Pretty little park

By AmericanRob |

Just spent some time wandering with the family. Main lobby area was nice, well decorated and the staff were very friendly. Took an hour or so slowly walking around and enjoyed a nice summer afternoon.

Pleasant

By Jeff G |

We visited since it was close to where we were staying. We had a pleasant walk in the woods. The wildflowers were not as evident in August but those plants in bloom were nice. We decided to come back next Spring to see it when more plants are blooming.

Birds and Flowers

By bctPhiladelphia |

The Preserve had a remarkably diverse array of native wildflowers set out along picturesque trails. Spring woodland flowers are especially well represented, so May was an ideal time to visit. In addition, quite a number of migrating birds could be heard and seen. The Visitor Center had helpful information, trail maps, exhibits, restrooms and a gift shop. There was a nominal admission charge that a guided walk in the early afternoon at no extra charge. I recommend a visit, especially in spring.

Well maintained, naturally beautiful.

By Tessie |

My husband and I visited for the first time on November 1st. It was one day after a heavy rain and wind storm. Lots of leaves and some small debris from the trees were littering the walking paths. It was easy to see, though, this was not the norm. It is a well maintained area with lots of natural beauty. The main pathways are wide and an easy walk. This time of year a lot of trees had already lost their leaves, but still some vibrant, beautiful color remained. We met a couple of volunteers in the visitor center and they were very friendly, knowledgeable and eager to talk about the Preserve and answer our questions. We’re already looking forward to visiting again in the Spring.

Walk through the Woods

By Kathy S |

Beautiful quiet spot in Bucks County. Nice trails, slightly hilly, beautiful flowers growing a great getaway from life for a couple of hours.

By Picturetaker10 |

Bowman Hill Wildflower Preserve is the place to go to just enjoy a hike, to see the wildflowers or purchase wildflower or to just picnic. It's a place that is sure to please out of town guests too.

Lovely place to visit - :-)

By frenchimpressionist |

Looking for an inexpensive but, lovely and special experience?
Take your Mom there for Mother's Day!
Or just go there for a few minutes or hours to get away from it all and get back to nature....
Indigeous species of flowers are abundant on the trails. Wildflowers available for sale. A peaceful and lovely place to walk, stroll, meditate, celebrate life, propose to your loved one.... ++++

Few wild flowers in September but nice walks

By Bob B |

There actually are a few wild flowers in September. 2.5 miles of easy trails through trees, small meadows and forest. Gift shop has some great books and t-shirts. $6 ($4 seniors) to walk the preserve.

Run by HONEST and competent people with INTEGRITY

By Louise S |

This is a place where you can tell the non profit acts with the utmost integrity and passion for the work they do. It is beautiful, well run and a real asset to Bucks County.

Great way to spend a nice day

By mango1908 |

This is a wildflower reserve so naturally February is not the best time to visit if you are visiting for the flowers... However this is still a great place: calm and beautiful with many very well marked trails in the wood and along the river. A great place to spend the day.
There are many actitiies for families with kids so I would recommend to check before you plan to visit and there is a very nice picnic area outside.
this place is very close to New Hope so you can always finish the day with a short visit to this lovely town.

A plant lover's paradise

By Chris B |

Take day hikes on the many trails leading to a variety of habitats fulled with native wildflowers, ferns, shrubs and other plants. There something in bloom from April through October. Many plants are also interesting in winter.

Simply Gorgeous

By Willowtree123 |

This is a little known but peaceful treasure. About 60 years ago this was agricultural land then it was fenced off to stop deer invading and allowed to return to the wild. I go there about once a month with a friend who is a 'birder' - I go to enjoy the peace and tranquility.

where are the flowers?

By rcr86 |

We went to this preserve one day and were surprised to find there were no flowers. Lots of trails and beautiful scenery to see but no wildflowers. Plenty of wildlife and insects for sure as well which is to be expected, I imagine this park can be an amazing sight in bloom but FYI mid-August is not the best time to go.

Relaxing stroll

By Judy H |

Nature walk flat easy trails beautiful pond and stream not many flowers this time of year skunk cabbage ( picture posted ) and fawn very nice but not much to see highlight was woodpeckers at work !!

Surprisingly gorgeous

By Kristen B |

My husband and I came here because we saw a groupon. We never heard of it before and now it will become a seasonal place for us to visit. The fall beauty is like being in New Hampshire! We spent about two hours walking the trails. The trails are short and very well marked. We can't wait to come back in the spring!
The women that are in the front office are very pleasant and extremely helpful.

Special place for our family

By Melinda S |

We love this place. So serene. Certain times of the year, it's heavenly. If you enjoy the outdoors and nature, this is the place to go.

Pretty reserve, with nice walk up to Bowman's Hill Tower.

By MikeyJP17 |

Best part of the reserve we saw was around the pond. Generally in October everything was rather green, rather than colourful. The walk up to Bowman's Hill Tower was worth doing, not very demanding, and the views from the top on a nice day were really good.

By PA Res |

A little pricey for a walk down mosquito and gnat infested trails. Though, if you're into plants, you might really like it. Not sure I'd bring the kiddies.

Great Place for a Quiet Walk

By jimsoxz |

This location is a good place to walk around and observe nature. The annual plant sale also offers native plants for home plantings.

Quiet retreat between New Hope and Washington's Crossing

By wendyzphilly |

This Preserve is a lovely retreat that might be easily missed. I drove in and to picnic pavilion multiple times before realizing I needed to go up the path further and over cattle grate to get to the visitor center. There are fabulous native plants for sale. Many times I have seen set ups occurring for events such as weddings. That is an indication of how beautiful the flowers/meadows and paths are.
There are awesome walking paths to follow.

Beautiful, rare native plants, nature walk

By diana35777 |

If you want a beautiful, peaceful, magical nature walk in a healthy forest, near a pond and vast wildflower meadow, this is the one in Bucks county. What bloomed there this past June near a fern trail was the rare and going extinct yellow lady slipper orchid. Definitely a great place to visit time after time.

A jewel of nature

By LadyGross |

A wonderful place to enjoy the beauty of Bucks County. A walk on the trails is a welcome escape from the stresses of every day life. Don't miss the new pond and if you are looking for a wedding venue "in nature", it would be perfection.

A Gem in Eastern PA

By Rydes |

We went there for a stroll on a Sunday late morning. The Preserve was fairly empty with visitors when we got there. It's like we had the whole place by ourselves. (There were more visitors when we left.) Leaves were changing colors. It's very enjoyable to walk along different trails and take in all the beautiful images. Because it's in the middle of autumn, there weren't many flowers around. The trails are of easy walk. It's fun to walk on them blanketed with fallen leaves. It's educational to read all the little plagues about native plants. We spent about 3 hours in the Preserve. Visitors can enjoy bird watching sitting on couches in front of larges window in the Visitors Center. The traffic of leaving New Hope was challenging -- narrow road, lots of cars, and lots of people in "downtown" New Hope.

Very nice place.

By dr_rambler |

Beautiful place for a family hike.
Simple and pretty. Definitely with a visit if you are reasonably close by

Saturday Outing

By bfranchi166 |

Bowman's Hill was a great Saturday activity. I imagine if we went early in the summer and spring there would have been more wildflowers but even in August it was a nice trip. There are plenty of paths to take and meander around the entire preserve. It is a beautiful place. Lots of shade with the old growth so even in August it wasn't unbearable. It would be especially good for family with kids who need to get out of the house and stretch their legs!

Looking forward to visiting next season

By Cate M |

This preserve was very peaceful to walk around, and the scenery was beautiful. We were there in late July though, so there weren't too many flowers to see. We're looking forward to going back in the fall to see the leaves changing colors. The woman at the visitors center told us mid-April is the best time to go for flowers.
The price was very reasonable, the map was very detailed, and the paths were all clearly laid out so there really wasn't any worry about getting lost.
An important note--the map makes it look like there's a small parking lot over by the pond. It's more of a two-car driveway than a parking lot, and it's only for handicapped use. So, if you want to go see the pond, you'll have to walk a bit.

Forest great for walking

By EtLiao |

It was an unusually warm day in February, in the 60s, so I went out to hike. I'm not a particularly active person and this trail was pretty easy to walk since everything's paved or gravel; only the trail up to the Bowman's Tower was a little tough. I spent about 2 hours here and walked pretty much every trail.

I'm excited to return in late March/early April to see the bluebells blooming! The bridges and little streams are also lovely.

Beautiful spot with wonderful air quality

By Marjorie A |

My friend and I took the 2:00 tour. It was very interesting because I recently moved to the area and there were a number of species that were new to me that are not native to
New York. The tour was a little too long.

A Pleasant Surprise

By Mootle |

Lovely place to spend a few hours. Several miles of walking paths that are well laid out and maintained. Places to sit are positioned nicely to enjoy views. Especially enjoyed the wildflowers, butterflies, and stream by the pond/meadow. Nice selection of native wildflowers and plants for sale at the gift shop. Watch out for poison ivy!

very nice

By JohnGross |

it is a nice walk around the park and see so many different things . its great to bring a lunch even and park within the park and have a picnic

Pennsylvania in all it's glory.

By Phyllis C |

Lovely relaxing trails through woods- easy walking. Educational opportunities for kids. Visit windows viewing bird feeders in room behind store. Especially nice for older folks and small childen because trails are wide and well kept. Not intended to challenge a hiker.

Tranquil, informative, a great cause to support

By Faye |

This place is really amazing. In certain season there is a tour guide at 2pm almost everyday to teach you about the different flower species in the area. They have a fenced in area to protect native species from deer. You can walk around and explore. There is a pond and a watershed spot. Definitely something perfect for nature enthusiast, bird lovers, environmentalist, and anyone really!!!

don't know much about plants

By East2West |

It's a small preserve. We checked out this place and took the tour with free guide there. I thought the walk was very informative. Made me want to start working on my native plant landscaping ideas for my property.

Beautiful place and so many happy butterflies, dragonflies, etc

By eyelove2eat |

We were visiting New Hope and saw how close this wildflower preserve was so stopped for a visit. Gorgeous place. I am a fan of native plants and it was lovely to see so many in such a beautiful setting.

Good walking even without flowers

By Michael M |

Good short walking trails. Well maintained. Peaceful and serene. Will be sure to return in the spring.

Visit for Wildflowers

By 925Pamela |

Our experience was terrible. We drove over an hour to the Wildflower Preserve. Paid the fee to get in, only to be told the only time you get to see Wildflowers are in May. Then the woman preceded to tell us, you can take a walk and see all the trees and the pond. We didn't come to see the trees, we live near Longwood Gardens. We came to see the beautiful wildflowers. Prior to going here, we looked it up, and nowhere in any of their information did it state, wildflowers are only in May. This was such a letdown!

Nice hiking trails!

By Donna C |

I visited the wildflower preserve yesterday with my sister and cousin. It was a cloudy cool day but that actually made for nice hiking weather. The cost was $8.00 which at first seemed a little to much. The trails are nicely maintained and we saw beautiful wildflowers along the way. We spent a little over 2 hours there and really liked it.

If you like wildflowers don't miss this!

By rednissan |

We took the 2 pm Sat naturalist-led tour-- a 1 hr plus tour of the preserve. Excellent tour, learned a lot

Lovely

By Belle Moe |

Maintained by volunteers. This is a gem. Wildflowers abound and are sold at certain times of year here local to the area. Well worth a visit.

Lovely in the summer

By Dave G |

Bowmans Hill is a lovely forested area to explore for a couple of hours. Even in August, the colors were stunning. There wasn't much blooming but there were still trails to be explored and plants to enjoy. Highly recommended!

Nice nature walk, not too many flowers

By mlb10024 |

There are about 5 miles of easy, woodsy trails. While we didn't see many flowers, it was nice to hike around . Bring bug spray, the gnats and mosquitoes were ridic

Beautiful and Peaceful

By NewHopeLover |

I can walk the same trails over and over and never get tired of the beauty. These are not landscape gardens. Rather, it's seeing native plants in bloom as the seasons progress.

Diverse Attraction

By Alan L |

Surprising amount of diversity, not just the tower, flower sale and gift shop, but trails and gardens. Enjoyed a quick ride around the property and found an area with a pond, groomed trails and gardens. Great photo site, and a real surprise. Lots of walking and hiking trails that I did not explore. Gift shop and seasonal wildflower events are worth the trip. And don't forget the tower. Taverns/restaurants close by (off property), New Hope, Peddler's Village and more are a quick drive.

Relaxing

By TrayBN |

Great place to just get away for a few hours. Near Washington's Crossing. At it's best in spring and summer. Lots of native plants. Go get some fresh air and take a walk there.

Peaceful

By Gene K |

Nice trails. Even in the summer when flowers aren't as prevalent, the Preserve provides a peaceful place to walk.

Nice gardens that cover many acres and show a variety of plant, tree and flowers native to the Bucks county area.

Nice gardens that cover many acres and show a variety of plants, trees and flowers native to the Bucks county area. Depending on the season, different variety of flowers will be in bloom. We went in August. Lilly ponds are alway flowerlicous.

Mother Nature’s Preserve

By MitchPhyllis65 |

This is a beautiful wildflower preserve to get in touch with Mother Nature. There are plenty of trails to get your exercise. Be sure to allow time to explore the area. After our lovely walk we checked out the Visitor Center gift shop and my wife found a very nice T-Shirt which made her day.

Flowers, zen, nature

By Dror G |

Magestic place to get connected to nature and learn about native plants, ferns and flowers. Don't miss the pond near the exit and going down to the stream.

A beautiful experience

By Traveler0013 |

If you like flowers be sure and visit this site. Check with them to see what and when flowers are in bloom. Be sure and visit the part across the road by the Delaware River.

Pretty stroll

By Jeanne732 |

I enjoyed strolling through the Preserve. The woman in the Visitors Center was very informative & had many pamphlets on the local plants. There were certainly some very picturesque spots along the trails, but for me personally I was hoping for longer, more strenuous trails. The trails here are very easy walking. I would return during the blooming season (June/July) but for my walks I'll visit Goat Hill Overlook across the river.

Where's the flowers?

By SuzanneCloud |

Had a wonderful hike through the preserve, but alas, we saw very little flowers (time of year?)...nice trails through, lots of birds and benches to sit and reflect by the creek while a bull frog vocalized his indignation at our presence!

What a Autumn Day

By Colleen D |

Sight Seeing was Beautiful. Got to Bowman's Tower and the man working behind the desk had quite and attitude. I have really bad knees so was not able to go up the tower. But I still gave a donation.

Don't miss the tower and Thomas Neely house

By Chris R |

In the area of the preserve there is also Bowman Tower which is a short drive up a large hill and has trails that you can venture off into. The tower was built during the 30's but climbing to the top gives you panoramic views of the Delaware river and the surrounding countryside. It does cost $6 to go to the top and even though there is a elevator it has never worked when I have visited. The circular stairs to go up are not too taxing. You will also pass on the way to New Hope the Thomas Neely house which is well worth a visit if you enjoy the rich heritage of the early Americans. It is $6 for a tour of the house but its revolutionary history is very interesting and it gives you a idea of life in the 1760's.

A gem along the Delaware

By Princess_Fussbudget |

The parcel of land, carved out of Washington Crossing State Park, is fenced off from deer, and so is a thriving habitat of native plants. They do a marvelous job of keeping invasive plants under control and nurturing native wildflowers that are so seldom seen any more elsewhere. They give guided tours and other interesting lectures and programs. If you can hike up a steep hill, you can walk all the way up, out of the preserve, and to Bowman's Tower for a view of the river and its beautiful surroundings. But the intricate system of trails (mostly level) could keep an admirer of wildflowers busy for a whole day. This is a great place to buy native plants in the spring and fall. There's an interpretive building and restrooms. For birders, the preserve is good for warblers and thrushes, especially during migration.

Needs to clean up fallen trees on Lurgan Rd

By Sharon Slickis |

This state park is looking tattered with the massive tree debris on Lurgan Rd. Our neighborhood has to look at this unsightly scene of massive dead trees and debris every time we enter or exit Bowmans Farm 2. This state park should clean this up! This has been here for many years!

A perfect way to spend a summer afternoon

By South_Park_Aardvark |

We stopped here on the way to New Hope and caught the 2 PM tour of the wildflower meadow. Our guide was super enthusiastic about the historic and medicinal aspects of the plants we encountered.

A Pleasant Discovery

By CAS0924 |

Discovered this by accident while staying at the nearby Pineapple Hill B&B. We stopped in after seeing the sign for a plant sale, and ended up spending a couple of hours walking the trails. It was just beautiful there. We hope to return later in the fall or next spring.

Nice nature preserve

By bellefontebob |

So great this area is preserved and open for walks. Having so many plants for sale is a bonus as well. Our only disappointment was that they canceled the wildflower walk as it had rained just before it was to start, the sky was clear blue and the weather not a problem as we walked to grounds. It would have been nice to have someone help us ID things but so be it. it is a lovely area... just watch for the poison ivy as you stroll especially on paths along the water.

Enjoyable walk through nature paths

By Keri D |

We took our daughter and walked through the nature paths of the preserve. Overall very peaceful and we were lucky to have a beautiful day here in new hope. Not many flowers in bloom except around the pond. Was hoping for a little more color but we'll return in the spring!

We stopped here on the way to bowman's tower. The visitors center wasn't open so we couldn't get a map. So we kind of wandered around walking the trails. Was a very pleasant way to spend a couple of hours

In Any Season

By Herstory_62 |

Even in the dead of winter a visit to Bowman's Garden, a vast repository PA trees & wildflowers with accompanying birds, is stimulating, as there is always something worthwhile to see & more to learn. In every season a series of relevant lectures with noted guest speakers is worthwhile; the small gift shop is intriguing & now we're looking forward to returning in the spring when the flowers bloom again.

A pretty spot

By Vivian B |

This is one of the highest spots on the Delaware river and was first used by the Lanape Indians. They would gather there and then canoe down the river to Philadelphia for trading. During the revolutionary war it was used by the Patriots to monitor British troop movements. Today because the trees are so large, the only way to see the river is to go up Bowmans tower to the top for a fee.
If you want a good hike, the road to the top is one that will get your heart pounding.

Nice place to do a little hiking and spending time outdoors

By Lori G |

Nice place to do a little hiking and spending time outdoors. We didn't see any wildlife except for a few typical birds and squirrels. Trails are in great condition. None of the trails are challenging.

Peaceful

By the petal p |

It just so happens that my friend and I picked the most perfect, end-of-spring day to visit. It's so peaceful--away from all noise. There are many paths on which to wander and an abundance of wildflowers, shrubs and trees to enjoy. Some of the plants are marked. We took a short, guided tour from a knowledgeable guide and then we were left to hike on our own. There are some benches throughout the trails but spotty at best, If you aren't in good shape, be wary of the large roots on some of the trails and the somewhat steeper climb to the top of Bowman's Hill. (We're 60 and didn't have a problem.) I think a hiking pole would be advised for the exposed roots on the trails. Sales of wildflowers were offered near the visitor's center. It was quite a lovely hike. There are small fees ($5.00 and under), but who wouldn't pay $5.00 just to donate for the preservation of wildflowers.

Nature Preserved at its Best

By David O |

Tranquility and beauty surround you as you stroll among the many well marked trails on this nature preserve. While there can be some climbing up and down hills and ravines none of it is too difficult. Known for its magnificent display of Spring wildflowers, every time of the year can be a treat. Today the wildlife were abundant through the woods and at the pond. Many places to sit down, relax and enjoy this beautiful area.

Relaxing and fascinating visit

By Scott B |

What a wonderful place to visit for the afternoon! When you get there, head straight to the visitors center and buy a ticket. They'll give you a map and highlight what areas are particularly beautiful at the time that you're there. A few places I would recommend you visit include the pond, the meadow, the moss grove, and make sure to follow the butterfly signs to learn more about how to attract them to your own garden. You can also buy wildflowers and shrubs there, which I thought was pretty cool.

If you're interested in making this part of a whole day excursion, we walked down the towpath from New Hope and visited this along with the historic home and mill nearby. You can also walk up the road to the tower on top of the hill! It's a great day of nature and history, relaxation and exercise. Highly recommend it!

Great fun walking Beautiful Kept Trails!

By Dawnzo |

I brought my grand niece's for a walking visit after the New Hope Train Ride. We all enjoyed the beautiful woods, scenery and we'll kept trails. They loved the Green Labyrinth and wanted to walk it over and over again! A beautiful sunny day, cool fall weather, enjoyed by all! Would go again!

Nice place for a short hike

The trails are not long or hard to walk. A great place for a short hike - don't miss the pond - it is fantastic!

Join and Enjoy

By RejuvinateandThrive |

We are local and are always looking for new paths to walk and nature to see. Bowman's offers a gated area full of splendid trails, bogs, fields, and woods. Wonderful place to bring the kids. After your walk through the preserve, cross the street and walk the Tow Path ,or bring a picnic lunch and eat under a covered pavilion on site.

Cannot sing enough praises of this delightful preserve

By IndianBirder |

Kudos to the organization for doing all they are to conserve, preserve, propagate and spread awareness of wildflowers. We have loved every visit there - whether to go on one of their guided walks, to buy plants from the nursery or to shop from the very well curated little shop

Hidden Gem Outside the City

By geminigirlNewYork |

We've been to this park before. Its not far outside of Philly and its worth the drive. Its quiet and theres plenty to do. You can hike, picnic, fish, tour the historic buildings, walk to the top of Bowmans Tower, see the cemetery of unknown soldiers or just relax underneath a paviliion. There is a visitor center also thats for members only (which we didnt know) which we drove up to and talked to staff. They were very helpful explaining alll about the preserve. The tour is a climb if your out of shape; but if you do regular walking you should be fine. The view is well worth it from the top of the tower. However, I dont know if its open all of the time to climb up to the top because we didnt go to the tower this trip. The historic building were open to the public with a volunteer on hand to answer questions. Its a free tour through the buildings which was quite interesting. Its basically about when George Washington was waiting to cross the Delaware and stayed there until he and his troops crossed the river. So there's a lot to peak your interest if your a history buff or a nature lover. Hiking is easy for the most part. The trails are generallly flat with little to no incline. Parking is plentifull and again its free. (Im told thats unusual in Phila) You could probably get a wheelchair through most of the park with little or no effort or a stroller. Places to cook or eat your own food if you bring it. I did not see anywhere to buy food and I did not see any open bathroom facilities...I'm sure they must have them...I wasnt looking.

Do you like to walk? Where's the flowers?

By pretblueye |

My first time visit and was attracted to it because of the word "wildflowers". On this beautiful Saturday sunshine day as I drove up the first thing I notice is that the pavilion is marked "reserved" as they are getting ready for a wedding.

Driving up the road to the actual visitors center, the greenery is pretty. The visitor center is tucked into an area where they have plants for sell and the volunteers assemble to receive their duty jobs.

Checking into the visitor center we are given a guide map and some general info on the area and then we are left to explore by ourselves. The walk, if you do all the paths it will take close to 2 -2 1/2 hours. (depending on how fast you walk and stops you make but I can tell you every path has a charm of it's own and while you are walking the birds are keeping you company along with bees, bugs, and butterflies.

Wanting to do the pond area on my way out it was also not available because of the area being prepared for an event.

This particular establishment is not open on Mondays. As for the wildflowers-the field of wildflowers is located just at the exit area.

A Natural Gem Year-Round, But Best In Spring

By Paul C |

This is a wooded preserve with plenty of pathways--several paved--which offer a spectacular assortment of trees and wildflowers for naturalists or those who simply enjoy a quiet walk in the woods. It includes a stone bridge, and a garden pond where weddings are often held, and so much more. There are about 3.5 miles of trails which tie together to offer long hikes or shorter ones.

It starts at the Visitor Center where admission is collected (it's not very expensive)--annual members can use the preserve without charge. My wife and our 2 friends traveled three hours to the park from outside Washington, DC, and it was worth it. However, for anyone within an hours drive it would be a quiet place to return to often. We visited on a busy Saturday (a wedding was underway), but it is open every day between 8:30 am and sunset. It is closed between December 24 and January 1, and on Memorial Day and Labor Day.

It is within about a mile of the studio of famed mid-20th century furniture maker George Nakashimi, which is only open on Saturdays between 1 pm and 4 pm.For lovers of fantastic mid-century furniture it is special. The artist's daughter Mira still make spectacular furniture in the style of her father.

New Hope itself is a charming small town nearby which should not be missed. But a warning--on weekends it is very crowded during tourist season.

But Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve is a gem for anyone or family who loves nature, walking and flowers. It also sells a great selection of wildflowers and shrubs outside the Visitor Center for gardeners interested in native plants that tolerate some shade. The Preserve is not fancy, but is comfortable like an old shoe.

Beautiful landscaped park and flower preserve

This is a great safe place to walk and visit the flower preservation building where you can also purchase flowers...

Beautiful spot for nature lovers!

By Lucy M |

The Preserve is one of Bucks County's hidden treasures -- a beautiful spot located just south off New Hope, it offers visitors a glimpse into the native nature of Bucks County. Whether you spend an hour or an afternoon there, you'll be glad you did. Locals: don't miss the native plant sale in the spring!

Easy and beautiful trails, so many wildflowers!

By Nancy M |

The wildflowers this time of year are amazing. The trails lead you past numerous landmarks, e.g., a pond, log cabin, stone bridge, gazebo, and thru beautiful flowering woodlands. Our trail guide (tour is everyday at 2) was just ok - too much personal info and not enough about the plants - also hard to hear. There are a number of guides, and each one is likely to do it differently. Nice gift shop and happy to see they offered woodland wildflowers for sale - I found a number I've been wanting to add to my native wildflower garden. It would be to their advantage to increase their volunteer efforts to work on getting rid of invasive plants.

we practically live here...

By Sharon F |

We have been members of this unique place for many many years. it is one of the only, if not the only, State Wildflower Preserve, where native plants of our region reign supreme. it is a pleasure to be there in all seasons, but the spring and early summer stand out. the trails are lovely and most are easily accessible to most levels of fitness. this is a place to walk slow and savor the experience of flowers and color and cool breezes and birds flitting through the trees. the entrance money you spend, all of which goes back to the preserve, is well worth it. it is often our choice for a 2 hour walk...we often dont think of any other place.

Meadow in bloom; plant sale

By smm628 |

First time visit at end of July; came for one of their "Knowing Native Plants" lectures, so won't be able to speak to most of the grounds. Spent about an hour inside the visitor's center looking at slides and listening to the speaker, then we went on a walk through the meadow to see the plants in person. Would have been a longer hike except it started thundering. However, we saw the swamp milkweed, New York ironweed, and swamp mallow all in bloom, as well as many butterflies. Also got a quick glance at the pond area as we made our way quickly back to the visitor center.

If it hadn't started raining, I would have explored the grounds more thoroughly, and am disappointed that I wasn't able to; perhaps I will get back up there one day to do so!

There were plants for sale near the visitor center (prices are in tiny print above the bar code on the side of the pot). It looked like that was an everyday occurrence, not a special event, though I was told they also do a bigger plant sale at least once a year (in the fall?)

Nature walk was nice

By lovesfoodncraftbeer |

I liked donating to the place (5 each). No flowers were in bloom. Walked around the entire place, not one flower. Enjoyed the walk though. I think they need higher stakes and labels as to what the flowers/plants are.

Beautiful Nature Walk

By Becky S |

The nature walk at Bowman's Tower is beautiful! Great place to take kids, or for a romantic stroll! When the nursery is open you can purchase plants.

Native Plants

By Kyle S |

This is the nation's only living museum devoted to native plants.134 acres on River Road in New Hope, this preserve has 00 species of native plants. If you explore the 41/2 miles of trails , you will see hardwood forests, meadows, steep hillsides, creeks, ponds , and wetlands. The Pond Observatory overlooks the forest canopy and Bowman's Hill.

Woodland walks

By BrewsMom |

Wonderful shady walk on a hot day. Don't expect massive flower displays. This preserve rewards the careful viewer with wildflowers tucked here and there in season.

Go During Spring

By Kayla S |

It's a pretty place to walk around but there weren't many flowers out when I went. Take your time and walk through it all.

Lovely walk in the forest

By TravelerLAA |

We loved this park with trails and wildflowers. We didn't see so many flowers due to the time of season but it was such a special place to visit. There is a nature park office and they also sell plants and wildflowers.

nice place to hike

By Jason G |

if you are looking for a nice place to walk in or hike in the woods then I suggest a visit. Also great if you are into gardening and/or horticulture.

Nice Outing

By Goldfinch73 |

We visited the preserve in mid-May, hoping to see a wide variety of wildflowers. We really only saw a handful of wildflowers. The main focal point of the preserve seems to be native plants and ferns. Our favorite part was the frog pond area. Overall, we were a little disappointed with the preserve. We were expecting to see displays of wildflowers.

Great place to walk around

This is a great place to walk around and enjoy nature. the trails are well manicures and the sorrounding area and views are just beautiul.

For those who love nature books

By Mari G |

I can't wait till Spring to revisit this preserve and see the more than 800 species of Pa native flowers but yesterday I stopped in at the Visitor Center and viewed their very interesting collection of birds and nests of the Delaware Valley. There was a winter craft class happening in the large sunlit room . I'm sure most visitors come here for the flowers but I decided to write a review because of what I found in the Twinleaf gift shop: a very friendly and welcoming employee at the front counter and a really wonderful selection of nature-themed books and guides on plants, trees, butterflies, bees, other pollinators , planting for pollinators, conservation, and preserving native habitat, some of the best text available.

A Wonderful Amazing Place!

By SueIris |

I went here with my Environmental Stewardship group for one of our class trips. We went on a beautiful spring day. They have a deer exclosure fence surrounding and protecting 100 of their 134 acres. This way, the rare, threatened or endangered native plants can survive, which would not happen if the deer were able to eat them. They also have a native plant sale and we saw many of the plants that were in bloom then, including:
Bloodroot - Sanguinaria canadensis
Twinleaf - Jeffersonia diphylla
Trout-lily - Erythronium americanum
Spring beauty - Claytonia virginica
Cut-leaf toothwort - Cardamine diphylla
Dutchman’s breeches - Dicentra cucullaria
Squirrel corn - Dicentra canadensis
Wood poppy - Stylophorum diphyllum
Toadshade - Trillium sessile
Red trillium - Trillium erectum
Large-flowered trillium - Trillium grandiflorum
Creeping Jacob's ladder - Polemonium reptans
Virginia bluebells - Mertensia virginica
Pinxter-flower - Rhododendron periclymenoides

I intend to join and can't recommend this place high enough. Know that I am an amputee and had a bit of trouble on some of the paths and it is not barrier free, but a wonderful place nonetheless.

What a lovely surprise!

By Susan A |

This old woods with well maintained trails is teeming with natural wild flowers. There are benches to stop and think, or read a book, and a pond complete with healthy bullfrogs. It is much larger than one can get through in a couple of hours. I enjoyed my visits so much ($5.00 or $6.00 donation) that I joined for $45.00 a year. I have found it to be serene and meditative. I seldom encounter another person on the trails. Bring your binoculars if you like to watch the birds!

Spring, summer and fall are the best times to go

By Sue S |

Make sure you go into the Visitors Center and sign up for the 2:00 guided walk. You will get the most out of your trip to the Wildflower Preserve if you do that. The flowers and scenery change daily/weekly as things bloom from March thru-October. It's a nature lovers delight! Not a manicured garden, wear sneakers!!!

September walk in the woods, a lot of flowers already past their prime but a nice little preserve,

By mommadoc2420 |

I went here in early September to photograph some flowers and butterflies. Flowers were a little past their prime but the trails were very nice hike in the woods with alot of shade and not crowded. They do not allow dogs I would have loved to take my dogs. The trails are reasonably marked and all roads lead back to the main office and small gift shop. There was a plant sale there the day I visited and you can purchase many different perennials and small trees for a reasonable price. Bring your own water as nothing on the trails. I did notice a lack of garbage cans and placed all my bottles in my backpack but it could be an issue. Very few butterflies but I did capture photos of an incredibly photogenic praying mantis I will visit in spring next year. Across the street is sheep farm which is only a hop skip away. I believe it is associated with Washington Park. also very nice walking paths. Not good for wheelchair on wooded paths but there is paved areas. Little gazebos and seating areas sporadically placed

Looking forward to watching the changing of the seasons

By Dual travelling circus |

Impromptu coffee stroll through the forest as the first flowers bloom. We took a pass on the nature walk that left late and enjoyed our peaceful time with nature. Affordable visit, next time I'll bring my Nikon. For today, iPhone suffices. Was a little disappointed at the state of the trails, but they have a large plot to care for, and they appear to be selling plants as well now, although I did not see any price tags.
Looking forward to another trip to watch the forest change.

Beautiful place!

Stopped during the native plant sale. What a treat! Don't miss the pond with water lilies and frogs.

A wonderful, lush, varied garden experience

By HMac_2013 |

Planning a visit to Princeton, NJ from dry, brown New Mexico, I searched TripAdvisor for nearby gardens to visit and found the Bowman’s Hill Wildlife Preserve on the Delaware River Road between New Hope, PA and Washington’s Crossing. What a treat! Easterners might take it for granted, but coming from the desert SW the density and variety of lush, wet greenery, flowers and running water, especially after a heavy rain the night before, were a wonderful treat for us. Highlights for us were the pond and the moss garden. Trees, flowers, birds, water, pleasantly varied and manageable trails all lovely.

Still pretty bare in early April, but peaceful

By Linda P |

So many flowering trees were in bloom, I expected more of the early flowers to be up, but the majority were marsh marigolds, with a sprinkling of Jacobs ladder, even fewer trout lily. Oh well.

I don't know of any other wildflower preserve in this area -- much less where the wildflowers are safe from the predations of deer. It is a very special place. Have a walk about and then go to Bowman's Tavern for one of the best burgers around.

Beauty and Fresh Air

Date of Visit: 10/9 - After reading so many excellent reviews, my husband planned a stop here. Wonderful walking. Not strenuous. Even though fall is here, and there wasn't much in bloom, we found it beautiful. Helpful staff. We definitely want to return during spring or summer.

Late Spring, little wildflower but we could see great potential

This was a very nice drive through the preserve. Again no wild flowers yet due to time of year. But it was worth the drive just to see the area and so close to so many landmarks

Hidden gem

I was really surprised just how expansive this preserve is. It is very carefully and thoughtfully laid out and curated. And it is lovingly tended by the team. If you love wildflowers and a little history, be sure to make the stop.

Spring is gorgeous at Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve. I cannot wait to watch the seasons change there!

Friendly interesting staff, great folks on the "floor" helping to choose native plants to take home, varied programming year-round, and all sorts of things to do with children. A cool natural place for nature lovers of all ages. It was great to come back inside and watch the birds as we cooled off from our meanderings.

Great place to purchase flowers

Wonderful place .. We stopped in twice over the weekend on a visit to New Hope area. We were there to enjoy the dedication of their new frog pond, complete with a mill house and babbling brook. The trees along the trails are well marked with the names .. And they offer plant cuttings for sale, labeled for their use in attracting birds and butterflies. Nice selection of books in their shop as well.

Blooms Galore!

By Susan W |

Great for a spring or summer stroll, this flower preserve is protected by a tall fence {unable to see it in the park}
so the wildlife to not eat the many blooms, so its a great place to photograph or just relax. The trails are simple and easy so no worries. A nice creek runs thru park benches throughout! Just CHILL!

A bit of heaven

By Arthistory76 |

A Beautiful Spot We've Revisited

By BuddhistNYC |

This is a lovely spot to take some time out.

It feels like another world.

Suggest you have a couple of hours at least.

Perfect to take a picnic for the family.

we had a lovely time, little water pools, gardens, and just such a relaxing natural atmosphere.

highly recommended.

Very nice park but doesn't take long to walk through

By mjsoto81 |

My wife and I visited the wildflower preserve for a morning hike during our weekend stay in New Hope. We were under the impression we would be doing some moderate hiking, but it ended up being very easy walks through some trails which took us very little time to complete. We visited in August so the flowers were not in full bloom anymore. Also, we laughed to ourselves when we got to the pond and saw the size of it. It was more like a Koi pond.

The preserve was nice and quiet which was great, but kind of underwhelming. We did love the bridge and taking pictures of it. Maybe we will visit in May or June next time to see more flowers.

Relaxing and beautiful nature preserve

The BHWP is a great way to lose yourself in calming, beautiful flora for a few hours. It is family friendly, and the trails are easy to traverse for all ages.

Something to do....

By Timezone Travelers |

It's nice and beautiful here. I wouldn't go again necessarily but when in the area it is definitely something to do.

Great spot for an outing

By Claudetteth |

If you are in the area and want to get in a bit of walking while exploring the world of wild plants, be sure to take in this spot. You pay $4 admission (2$ for seniors) to access a multitude of trails in a lovely forested setting. I enjoyed that the trees were all nicely labelled. The wild flowers are a little more difficult to identify but there are posters in place sharing seasonal information about the various plants.

Highlights included seeing turtles sunning themselves on a rock in the river and trees carefully gnawed away at by beavers but left standing.

Lovely Historic Spot To Visit

By BuddhistNYC |

We stopped by here today, and enjoyed the peaceful surroundings.

it looks like spring, and summer wld also be good seasons to visit.

a picnic lunch in the beautiful gardens looks appealing.

we will return with our kids in the spring.

highly recommend.

NICE WALKING TRAILS

By DJMAN5 |

Nice stop if you are in area. Nice woodsy walking trails. We visited end of June, not much in bloom. Our favorite spot is the pond on the way out, good photo opportunity. Would like to come back when more in bloom.

very nice destination

Enjoyable place to visit. It is like a small version of an arboretum. Very nice quiet area. The road to and from the site is scenic.

Beautiful

By davidandkat |

Sadly we did not get to take part in as much of our annual pass as we hoped, but the handful of times we went it was a great experience. Kids loved walking the trails.

Nice place to visit. However.

By kazu79 |

Didn't know there was a $6 charge then found you didn't need it to walk around. Didn't see any flowers but must have been the time of the year. Was not told either at the visitor center. However we did have a short lovely romantic stroll through the grounds.

FANTASTIC

By Laura M |

What a beautiful place, have to put it on your must see list for the area! Simply spectacular views!!!

Visited Bowman's Tower and Would Highly Recommend The View At The Top

By John G |

It cost us $7 a piece which was well worth the cost of admission for the view at the top of the tower. The steps are very steep and if you are not in decent shape you will get winded. There is an elevator that will take up most of the way if you can't do as many steps. The view of the quarry, mountains, river, etc. is breath taking ! I highly recommend.

A Wealth of Beauty Under Your Feet

Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve is beautiful on its own, especially in the springtime, but a guided tour from one of the extremely knowledgeable guides will unlock information and understanding most wouldn't even notice on their own. It's definitely worth a trip.

Very pretty in spring

By shademann |

I'm posting this a bit late but Tripadvisor asked for the review so here it is.

The whole Bowman's park area is just a nice place to spend the day. Between the tower, parks and preserve you can't go wrong. Area is well kept and the smell of all the blooming flowers in April/may is just uplifting to soul ;-)

Countryside and History

By Trip692270 |

Take the family on an outing up Bowman's Hill to see where part of America 's history began. Buy some local wildflowers from the Preserve to put in your garden. I still remember going with my family as a little girl, 70 years ago. Create memories for your family in this beautiful area.

A walk in the forest

By markbB508II |

The flowers are awesome, especially in the meadow. There are some great hiking trails. With the recent rains, some are a little more rocky, but still very walkable. The trails along the water are especially nice. Also like the pond trail.

By Elaine R |

To be honest with you, I was here once and not in their best season (spring). I'm sure it would have been nice to see everything in full bloom. The preserve is pretty and you can hike right up to Bowman's tower. Just be sure they are open first.

A great half or full day activity in New Hope PA.

By DONNA R |

This is a wonderful visit anytime of year. I came in the snow for photos and again recently to see the incredible birds. Lunched near by and walked and photographed. A perfect visit. I became a member to buy native PA plants at a discount.

Refreshing

By TrayBN |

Even though we live about two hours away, my wife and I make at least one annual pilgrimage to the preserve. It's at it's best in spring and early summer. This place is among the best when it comes to native plants. A visit is refreshing. Especially interesting is their native plant sale held in early May. You'll find things here that you'll never see in your typical local plant stores. Take a walk through the wooded area, then if you feel like it picnic near the entrance area or go just a few miles down the road to dine in New Hope or Lambertville.

Nice excursion!

By Diane R |

We were traveling the wrong time of year to see many flowers, birds or butterflies, but it was still an interesting visit. The old stone bridge was lovely, as was the pond area, where in spite of the chill in the air, there were turtles on a log sunning themselves.

"best kept secret" natural area

By Gerry V |

Bowman's is a well developed preserve with a fair variety of trails that I would call very easy to easy. There's an interesting walk (I would not call it a hike) from the Welcome Center to Bowman's Tower that meanders through the woods of the area - peaceful and not over-run with commercial venture which is a refreshing change. Combine it with a visit to New Hope.

Nice hikes on the grounds

By ibcnyou |

This is a very serene place to hike and enjoy nature. They also sell plants and have a small gift shop.

Visit every season

By AlyG77 |

While the flowers are in peak bloom in April, the Preserve is a beautiful and peaceful place year-round;. You can hike or just commune with nature.

An oasis of native plants

By Karen M |

The grounds are beautiful and there are several optional paths, several are paved making them suitable for people with mobility issues. I particularly like seeing forests and meadows that have been guarded from over grazing by deer, providing a glimpse of 19th century habitats. I also love the bi-annual native plant sales. Prices are extremely reasonable, and seemingly small natives grow like, well, wildflowers. I have successfully split many of my purchases, and even with some gardening neglect, they thrive. An added bonus is paying a small fee to climb the tower; views are wonderful in any season.

Incredabl!.

By Barbara D |

Spend a day here, it will not leave you. We got a bit lost but it just made it more of an adventure.

A hidden gem

By Taryn |

If you love to hike you have to visit the wildflower preserve! There are tons of trails and so much lush greenery to take in.

Nice quiet place

By aviron l |

Very nice and quiet to walk the trails and see the wildflowers in different seasons.April is just he beginning and if you take the longer trails you can be alone and enjoy it.

Hidden Gem

By Alex M |

We dropped in to the wildflower preserve without any idea what to expect. It is much more than you can see by driving down River Road! There's a visitor center, wildflower sale area, pond, and miles of hiking trails. It makes a nice activity when you're tired of visiting the shops in New Hope and Lambertville.

Wonderful Experience

By Andrea Z |

We did a birding and wildflower walk. The paths are very well maintained and easy for all ages. Different environments and flowers make each path enjoyable. Very well maintained and even though it was very foggy for bird watching, you could hear and see very different birds. The feeders in the back of the welcome center certainly saved the day.

Great getaway close to home

By Jacqui I |

My husband and I went to visit today on a hot holiday weekend and we completely enjoyed ourselves! Great place to get away without having to go far and rest and relax. Friendly for the disabled and elderly because the trails are so well maintained. Restrooms and Visitor Center also accessible and well-maintained. We will be back!

Visit woods like we had when we were kids! Reminds me of being down the Wissahickon with my Mom in the early 60's.

By Lindah0220 |

We visited on Tuesday. and took a tour led by a naturalist which was leisurely and highly informative. The landscape is so beautiful, we look forward.to going back soon...

Spend and afternoon.

By vze2fbrx |

Nice place to spend the afternoon walking around. You can walk up to the top of Bowman's Hill, but bring your own water.

So disappointing

By TwinsDaze |

So disappointing. Hardly any wild flowers. Each trail looked the same. We visited each area they suggested and hardly saw any color. I suggest a tour with the Botanist.

Great location for a wedding!

By Todd F |

A friend of ours planned a Renaissance/Medieval-themed wedding here, and the location was just perfect. Most of the guests dressed for the occasion, everyone had a great time, and the old buildings and surroundings made it easy to get caught up in the moment.

Beautiful

By Teresa A |

Beautiful, easy walks through the woods. Very peaceful. Should NOT charge $6 a person. That is a lot for a family of 6 for a walk...

Beautiful!!!! I will be back!!

By hippimama715 |

This is an absolutely lovely preserve!! I can't wait to go back in the spring. If you love tootling on trails in lovely nature you will love it!!

By NL144 |

Nice park. Not very exciting but probably depends on the season and what you're expecting.Worth a stop if not a specific destination.

Nice area to walk around and be among nature

By Jamie W |

We spent about an hour and a half and were able to walk around just about all the trails. Even without knowing what was what as far as the wildflowers, we had a lovely time.
