Given the time, one could spend a few days there and still not cover it all. A very worthwhile experience, something to satisfy anyone.

By RollCaster |

As 1st time visitors we stopped in for a special watercolor exhibit at the western art galleries. The entire art collection is fabulous, including the sculpture. We also enjoyed the expert natural history exhibits. The cafe had a nice selection of food which we ate in a large dining room accompanied by a pianist. We didn’t have time to enjoy the garden or other exhibits, but were very glad we came.

By Earl C |

Great trip. Spent a full day and a half touring all the museums. Went for the firearm and Bill Cody museums but really enjoyed them all including the Plains Indian, art, and natural history museums. Great time shared with my wife.

By Patric D |

This is really five museums in one, and would take all day to cover all of it. it is very well laid out and the exhibits are great. We focused on just two aprts: the Plains Indians and Buffalo Bill himself.
Both were really informative, and, in particular, it bought the 'real' Buffalo Bill to life.
Very good indeed. unmissable if you are in Cody

Terrific spot. Beautiful drive to the Eastern entrance to Yellowstone and the Buffalo Bill Center is incomparable.

By christiewrite |

We were here 25 years ago but didn't have enough time to see it thoroughly. This time we spent amost the full 2 days. AWESOME

By David G |

Everything you ever wanted to know about Buffalo Bill is in this museum. There is a great display showing all of his contributions to western expansion, his Wild West Show and tons of other memorabilia. There are several separate museums in the complex, including rooms containing thousands of weapons from over the years.

By iTravel |

5 museums in one place, ticket is good for 2 day entry. A good overview of life in the region. Worth the fee if you have the time to take it all in

By Gayle W |

Go to Cody with a C without visiting this museum. There’s something for everybody and their displays are quite remarkable. The gun collection is amazing the history of the plains Indians stirring and conversation from walking. You could problem

By Dakota G |

Definitely a 2-Day thing. And they have a free Bird (Raptors) show twice a day (weather permitting) that is very informative.

By Bellagirl14 |

Loved the Plains Indian museum. So many beautiful artifacts of a disappearing way of life. Appreciated the artistry and historical record of the exhibits.

By Gabriel H |

This is a friendly, manageable museum that can be explored and enjoyed in 2-3 hours. Clearly, the main emphasis is on Buffalo Bill, his life, accomplishments and memorabilia. However, there is a separate exhibit of Western art, which parenthetically is very different from what you would see in Texas or New Mexico, with Remington sculptures and paintings from a a number of well known Western artists, as well as visitors who toured the West and felt compelled to record their impressions. There is a wing dedicated to firearms, arguably the most important tools in the conquest of the West. The museum has a small, but efficient cafe, with very good espresso and other coffee-based beverages, ice cream, sandwiches, cookies and even wine and beer.

Knowing that this is a Smithsonian Affiliate, we had high expectations and it easily surpassed those. This is really 5 museums in 1 building, and I don’t mean just 5 traveling exhibits. We spent several hours the first day in the Cody Firearms Museum, and we don’t even own one! It is just an amazing collection exhibited and explained so that novices like us can appreciate the beauty of individual pieces and understand the technological advances for back in the day, to present time. There are some hands on displays and some video clips testing out assumptions of guns used in movie making.

We paused for a break before visiting the Whitney Western Art Museum. Again, the range of the pieces is expansive and you needn’t be particularly knowledgeable to appreciate what a beautiful collection this is. We weren’t up for doing more as we felt our brains were not able to absorb more that day. The admission however, is good for 2 days, as well as being able to come and go on the same day.

We hadn’t planned to do 2 days of museums but didn’t want to miss out on an opportunity to soak it all in, as it’s not likely we would be back to Cody any time soon. As luck would have it the next day was brisk and super windy, making outdoor activities less enticing than we’d hoped, so back there we went again.

The Buffalo Bill Museum was phenomenal, as was the Draper Natural History Museum which weaves you through exhibits over several levels. Again, the exhibits are wonderfully arranged and easy to understand. Our brain space seemed to max out. Sadly we didn’t even get to the one on the Plains Indians and I know we missed out on a treasure. If you had any interest in any of these area, this is a place you don’t want to miss!

The gift shop also had some truly lovely things related to all the museums and for all age levels.

By dnd047 |

Not much to add to the many five star reviews, all well deserved. We arrived at about 230 pm, but the cafeteria was already closed. Why? Much of the gallery space was filled with modern paintings for sale or on auction; as a result, the number of older paintings on display seemed to be less than we had experienced in the past. The other parts of the museum are compelling, especially the Plains Indian Museum (a must-see) and the Draper Museum, which provides a fascinating view into the past and present of the Yellowstone landscape. Don't try to do this in an afternoon!!

By LAW64 |

Excellent museum with lots of different museums collected in one place. Lots of interesting exhibits - we enjoyed the Buffalo Bill part and the natural history zone but didn't have time for the other areas. We learnt lots about the area and the history of Buffalo Bill

By Heidi H |

Very interesting museum with a lot of historical displays--very interesting!! The other parts of the museum make it enjoyable too - especially for gun lovers - my husband loved it!

By Spiderdog |

Brilliant museum!
We had limited time in Cody as we were on a road trip so we read about the 5 different museums in the centre and made a decision before arriving that we would skip 2 sections.
This was disappointing but the right decision for us as we love looking around museums and could easily have spent a whole day here.
The layout of the centre is ideal and the areas that we looked at had been thoughtfully put together so you are not just looking at displays behind glass.
Three were interactive exhibits, short films and interesting facts presented in ways that would appeal to children as well as adults.
We had a coffee break and the restaurant was very pleasant and the food options looked good and were reasonably priced.
If you are in Cody for more than a day the ticket can be used the day after purchase as well. In fact with such a lot to see and do you probably have a better museum experience by spreading the visits over 2 days.
It's a "must see" in Cody and ties in with other places in the town such as "Irmas" hotel and bar/restaurant.

By JaneaM34142 |

This is definitely worth visiting if you’re staying overnight in Cody. There’s so much history to take in and the museum is set up in five separate museums in one. We spent about 1.5 hours there.

By Zondra M |

Excellent. Dining pricey Displays wonderful. Staff wonderful. Gun lovers dream. Wild Bill was a marketing genius, supported women’s and Native Americans rights!
Have wheel chairs and motorized carts for rent

By Ilka H |

So if you don't stop by here is your own fault. A visit to the museum is very exciting and informative. You should bring a lot of time.
Here you can learn not only everything about Buffallo Bill but also an extra part about First Nation life.
There is also a nature historic area which is very exciting.

By Shanghailisa |

One of the best art exhibits I've ever seen. Beautifully organized to not overwhelm and keep interested. Even kids would love this place!

By Phil D |

This is so much more than just the story of Buffalo Bill (although it does cover his life and achievements beautifully)
Excellent coverage of natural history in the region, the story of native Americans, American art, and extensive display of guns.
Some of the displays are breathtaking and the attention to detail is incredible.
We spent 3 1/2 hours there and only scratched the surface.
Highly recommended

By Janice H |

Huge, interesting museum. Indian artifacts, gunfighters, Buffalo Bill's life and travels. Everything, anything you want to know about the wild West.

By successful_nomad |

You do not realize the size of the museum from the outside. It is 5 museums in 1. We could have spent two days here. The gun museum is the largest collection I have ever seen. It was a true education of the history and mechanics of guns. We did not plan well and wish we would have allowed more time to spend here and not skim through most of it.

By Carol A |

Loved every inch of this place! Learned a lot about Bill Cody and the wild west. We are from Rochester NY area and found out 2 of his children are buried there in Mount Hope

By ShortAxis |

We visited the museum expecting an ok exhibit. It was way beyond ok! The building, the layout, the construction is first rate! Five different but related museums arranged like the spokes of a wheel centered around a generous and comfortable area that includes coffee bar, dining area, seating area, and restrooms. The museums are divided into western themes of regional flavor: culture, art, science, history. Highly recommend

We were on a roadtrip of several states and this museum was recommended to us so we made a point to include Cody in our trip.

This museum is really 5 museums in 1. They include the Cody Firearms Museum, The Plains Indian Museum, The Buffalo Bill Museum, The Natural History Museum and The Whitney Art Museum.

I would recommend starting with the Buffalo Bill Section to really get a feel for the history of the town and then move on to the Natural History Museum, especially if you are hitting any of the national parks in the area. Those are the two that have the most information and will probably take the longest but all are really good. If you are in to guns at all, you could probably spend a whole day alone just in the Firearms Museum. A great history of guns and tons to look at.

All of the museums have interactive pieces and things for kids to do as part of the experience. There is also a cafeteria and coffee stand in the middle for a break between the museums is you are on information overload. The tickets are good for 2 days so you can really take your time if museums are your thing.

Personally, a half day was plenty for us to get a feel for all the things the museum had to offer but we are definitely glad we stopped

By tribuckblessed |

Wow! What a fabulous place! Love how they have the 5 different museums for 5 different interests. Each museum is marvelous. Spacious, well-designed viewings, and very informative! A definite must-see!

By Mickey_slept_here |

My six grand children fell in love with this place. They young lady at the ticket counter found a way to save me $50.00 on the price of admission by setting me up as a member.

By mcmac53 |

This is an incredibly well done museum. The Front desk staff, I like to call them, "The Directors of First Impressions", are smug, humorless arses, but other than that the place rocks. The native American section is stunning, especially the diorama with the teepee and changing sky was stunning. The Bill Cody section was also amazing!

By syan0vich |

This museum explains in many ways the history of the American Indians and other important details of this area of the United States. It is important to take a guided tour to understand all of the details that are shown in this museum.
The Buffalo Bill part of the museum is fascinating. It explains very well his life and
the Wyoming history at this time.
It is a large museum with many interesting areas to spend browsing.
It is very interesting and important to visit.

By MTB-Illinois |

Plan to spend several hours touring the various museums. Each one is unique and offers some of the best artifacts seen. We enjoyed our time there and even took in the outdoor show featuring their Birds of Prey. Since we were there longer than expected, we even enjoyed lunch in their cafe! Loved the gun museum....so many different guns in one location!

By Robert S |

this place is wunderbar.Indian,Art Firearms plus, plus plus a really cool place to visit. So much to see thats why the admission price is good for two days.

By James K |

Outstanding! We spent half a day here, but we could have easily stayed all day. A must see in Cody! My children love it and so did my wife. A great place to start your stay in Cody.

By wirenut1462 |

We were staying in Cody Wyoming while visiting Yellowstone NP and decided one of the days not to drive back to Yellowstone and instead see the city of Cody. This was one of our best decisions and visiting the Buffalo Bill Center was the highlight of that day. From the different museums housed in this vast complex to the many displays of the Wild West and the way it was back in the time, it is a must see when visiting Cody Wyoming. I was especially impressed by the Cody Firearms Museum and the effort it took to curate all of those firearms especially the "old" ones and then to display them in the manner they were. Very Nice!!!

By Q5907ZFlorih |

Nice museum, especially since there are four different museums in one building. Something for everyone and for all ages. There were 7 adults and 1 teenager in our group, we spend a little over 3 hours there, including eating lunch. Sandwiches and soup.

By Heather H |

My elderly Dad and I really enjoyed our whole day here and could have stayed longer if we'd had time. The staff were very helpful lending him a motorised wheelchair for the day for free. The five museums are very well-presented and there was also a replica of Buffalo Bill's childhood home and a display of birds of prey.

By CalifTravelBuddy |

Entrance ticket is good for two days. We returned on the second day for the 1PM raptor bird show which was held in indoors in the auditorium. Take time to drive around both sides of the building to see the excellent large sculptures. We shoot several old time guns in an indoor range in Cody and then saw the same guns in the collection at the museum.

By C H |

If you want to see all 5 museums, plan on spending the entire day here. We felt the highlights were the Native American wing, Natural History wing, and Buffalo Bill wing. The Native American wing tried to present a balanced viewpoint about their culture, history, and (mis)treatment by the US.
The Natural History museum was small but informative.
I was afraid that the Buffalo Bill museum would be jingoistic but it surprisingly pointed out the inherent flaws and contradictions of William Cody.
The Western Art was solid. The Firewarms wing felt more like a catalogue than an educational experience (we have visited several historic armories and military museums in the past). A must-see!

By Jill W |

Excellent! We headed straight for the Plains Indian Museum which we thoroughly enjoyed. Next up was the Buffalo Bill section which is fascinating! And then the Draper Wildlife museum was great as well. We stopped at the gift store which had a great collection of art and jewelry. We spent three hours. Staff was helpful and very kind. We went when it opened at 10 am. Was not crowded at all in March.

By Ditzgrl02 |

My husband had a blast, my 4 year old? Not so much. There isnt much for children to do here but as an adult there is lots of intersting things to look at! Wish there was some mixture for kids to do.

By TaylorRose |

Do not miss this excellent museum of the West. There are 5 separate museums within its walls. Your admission is good for 2 days, and you probably need that time to see everything.

By mreesebryan |

Huge museum and hard to see everything!! Great collection in Indian area and guns( if you are into guns). Enjoyed the art part too. Good history of Buffalo Bill. We left to eat at local restaurant and then came back to see other parts. Probably spent 5 hours. Well worth the stop.

By jck1376 |

Wonderful museum. The art was spectacular. Very well done. Affordable prices. Great gift shop.

I wish we had allotted more time!

By DennisNewnan_GA |

This is an excellent museum. There is something for everyone who enjoys the history of the old and new west. The Winchester museum is a must for any firearm owner/collector.

By GlobeTrotting801625 |

Get the two-day pass and plan to spend most of each day learning about the history of the West. Plains Indians, Buffalo Bill Cody, Natural history of the West, Art and Guns. Excellent presentations and educational throughout.

By WasatchRebel |

I think this is a must see in Cody. There are five museums in one, and when you pay, you get a two-day pass and frankly, you will need it unless you can stand on your feet for at least half a day. I was pushing my wife around in a wheelchair and that got tiring. We saw the natural history museum, Buffalo Bill, and western art museums the first day. I went back alone the second day and viewed the guns, but not all of them. This collection is so extensive that they actually have pull out glass cases and drawers with extra guns in them that won't fit in the visible displays. I wish I could've made it to the Plains Indian museum as well, but ran out of time.

By Millie K |

I was with Curly Bear Wagner years ago when he re did the Native American part...haven't been back since. That was like in 2004 or 2005

By Candice Z |

What a great experience. My husband loved the gun museum the most. We had family with us, so the playground was awesome for my 7 year old grandson. Love the raptors too. The entire experience was awesome!

By Joan J |

5-stars for fantastic artifacts and the many original silent movie shorts of Buffalo Bill and his Wild West Show. However, if you're a real history buff you'll notice how much effort was made to word the exhibits to avoid things unpleasant, immoral, or just negative. The explanation for the near extinction of the American Bison at the entrance was total baloney. Other exhibit signage was merely edited to make everything nicey-nice. The Plains Indian exhibit had fantastic bead work artifacts and beautiful examples of everyday utensils used by Native Americans. All well worth admiring, but almost no context about how and why their traditional culture was destroyed. So - Go for the artifacts, but get your history from some good books.

By Diana R |

Great museum complex. It's actually 5 museums in one so you're bound to find something of interest. I found the American Indian area the most fascinating. Also loved the western art & the history of Buffalo Bill. We ate lunch in the cafeteria & would recommend it for a break during the day. Well worth a stop if you are in the area. We spent the night in Cody just so we could check this out & so glad we did.

By TryitYoullLikeIt |

This is the type of museum that separates fact from fiction about the old West. The facts are interesting enough so it is refreshing to see the them on display for the education of education of the interested public

By Pawpawbillx4 |

Absolutely incredible look into the American west. The Native American exhibit was amazing. So thankful to see all the artifacts that have survived.

By Terry R |

This is a complex of 5 museums covering different aspects of the west - Buffalo Bill's life, plains Indians, western art, firearms and natural history. All are well laid out and curated. They have a wild bird preserve and highlight one of them a couple times per day. Great for kids and adults. Learned lots of new things. Good for several hours.

By B Green |

We learned so much about so many things. This is an amazing place and the staff is so friendly and helpful. Especially enjoyed seen the Raptors up close. We were so glad that we spent the night at a local hotel nearby so we could attend for 2 days. This museum is huge!

By Janet E |

This was a great museum for all ages. We particularly enjoyed all the Native American exhibits and displays.

By Jerome M |

We took a day trip to the museum, and it was great. Everything you would want to know about Buffalo Bill could be found here. There is a section of the old western television stars; like James Stewart, Gunsmoke, and Shane. The museum is a part of a group of museums that are very diversified. You can spend the whole day here, if you read all of the posted information. If you are western fan, this is a place you will want to visit.

By MyBucketListTrips |

Overall we enjoyed our visit to the museums. Our favorite was the Museum of the Plains Indians. The collection was amazing. We spent most of our time there. The Firearms Museum has an extensive collection. The number and type of guns was impressive. I am not a gun enthusiast, so I only spent a few minutes in this museum. Gun enthusiasts will love it. The food selection and quality wasn’t great. All 5 museums can be visited in less than a half day.

By Ronald M |

Excellent museum. Visually and educationally exceptional. Our family went with our kids ages 9,10,12. They really enjoyed the Birds of Prey talks and interacting with the gentleman working leather. They bring out different birds for each talk, so you can go to multiple to see different birds. The gun museum was an unexpected treat. It was well done, and obviously, if you are into guns, it will be awesome. But even if you are not extremely into guns, it is cool. The kids also enjoyed a cool gun range simulator. This is a well done museum, good for all ages.

By MICHAEL P T |

One of the best museums I have ever visited - and I been to museums in all 50 states and 11 foreign countries on 4 continents. This museum is not only extremely enlightening but it entertaining as well. My wife and I 8 hours over two days there. We still did not see everything. It was like mini Smithsonian and truly earns its Smithsonian affilitiation. If the Center of the West offered lifetime memberships we would gladly of joined. Whether you are a tourist - as my wife and I were - a resident, or just passing through, it is the place to go.

By Erica D |

Don't miss this excellent museum! We spent two afternoons here. On the first we took a tour of the Firearms Museum with Nick and Emma - both fantastic tour guides! We were able to concentrate on the Firearms Museum and the Whitney Art Museum, and I took some time to drool over the silent auction items. On day two we focused on the Buffalo Bill museum, which I worried would be biased but was actually very balanced. Also the Plains Indian Museum which was interesting and sobering. As well as spending 30 minutes at the Raptor Experience. This is a great experience and not to be missed.

By John D |

We didn't know what to expect. This was several museums under one roof and is not to be missed, assuming you're interested in the Old West.

By Rowena M |

Money is Well Spent-I would say, if you have 2 days, take it. The other 5-star evaluations, you read here, are true. I go at least once a year.

My favorite part is the natural history section. There you see and hear animals of the area. The exhibits are excellent just as one would see them out in the open.

The gun exhibit is one of the best too. I am not into guns, but all my western friends love the history displayed here.

The Native American area has great reading and looking. There you get an idea of what the Cody area looked like before we moved in on them.

I would not skip the art sections. There are beautiful paintings and sculptures. All originals. Some tell of the history or geology of the area.

I have not read any evaluations of the library. If you have a few extra minutes do walk in and take a break. You will find all kinds of science and western books there. We have contributed a few, including dinosaur, books. The library area is a good place to gather too.

By mike b |

This was just ok. Nothing spectacular! We went with a family of 8. Of it’s rainy I would maybe do this for something to do.
They did have some cool things but I feel over priced.

By Lesli W |

Amazing museum. Each of the 5 museums is laid out so easy to move through and not miss anything. Lots of seating. Birds of Prey. Show very informative, but entertaining. The gun musuem has over 10,000 items on display. It goes back to the beginning of guns and represents them upto current times. We spent 6 hours there with a 5 & 7 year old and we all enjoyed it.

By Sandymac66 |

What a great museum with 5 different areas. I plan on going back because it was the best I’ve ever been too.

By misskitty20004 |

5 great museums. My favorites were Buffalo Bill, Draper and Whitney Art. We also loved the presentation about Amelia the Owl. We spent 10-11 hours here in total, but we are museum people. I would highly recommend this place!

By Oliver S |

You’d better plan at least two days for Cody: the Buffalo Bill Center alone is going to take one day of your time, with its multitude of museums, Wildlife Art, Indian Art, Firearms – one of the largest collections in the World – Buffalo Bill and his colorful life, and more and more… Currently, there is a temporary exhibit of Posters for the Buffalo Bill show and some of the guns of its performers, including an Annie Oakley riffle and William Cody’s favorite Winchester, hurry up, admission is absolutely worth it!
**

By Michael B |

Didn't really know what to expect and was overwhelmed. Really need a full day. Gun collection is indescribable. You could spend a day looking at guns. Section on Bill Cody was really informative and really had no idea what a large production and how impressive the Wild West Show was. Have some great clips of the show. Section on Plain Indians was also amazing. Did not expect a museum in a small town would have these kind of exhibits. It was as nice as a lot of the Smithsonians in DC. Make time for a visit.

By Sharon C |

This is an amazing museum(s). Each museum is filled with detailed exhibits that are full of information. It can be overwhelming and so its a good idea to take advantage of the 2 days allowed for each ticket. We thoroughly enjoyed the raptor presentation as well as the chuckwagon exhibit in front of the museums. Definitely a great value for the ticket price.

By robyn r |

An excellent museum outlining this colourful character and his achievements. Much to see and do in what are actually 5 museums. Allow several hours. The displays were excellent and the information very good.

By donnam0918 |

This is by far the best museum and grounds in my travels...so far. To really take in everything I suggest the two day ticket.

By Aks0708 |

Be sure to allow enough time; this is a must see! There are 5 museums under one roof and the displays are fabulous. We learned a LOT.

By Sarah M |

It's the best museum ever, and your admission gets you in and out as much as you want for two days. You might need it. Kids loved the interactivity of the Draper nature museum. Buffalo Bill is always a hit. My favorite is always the Plains Indians museum. There is so much to see and learn. My husband's favorite is the Whitney art museum - he loves the variety of artwork. We also enjoyed a raptor program while we were there. We wanted to try the escape room, but it wasn't ready yet. It's a must-stop for us every time we're in Cody. I recommend it to everyone that I hear is traveling to Wyoming, because it is worth going out of your way for. I recommend breaking it up so you don't get sensory overload. We did the Draper and Buffalo Bill in the morning, left for lunch, and came back for the Plains Indians and Whitney art. We didn't have time for the firearms this time around. I would have loved to have a couple hours the next day.

By Sandy |

Unbelievable! There are five amazing museums under one roof. We stopped after lunch and only could see two of the museums in the time we had. Fortunately, the ticket you buy($22senior) is good for two days. It is a great value. The Buffalo Bill museum and the Plains Indian Museum were two of the best museums I’ve seen anywhere. This is a must see stop.

By Jeff S. |

We live in Cody and we encourage (and often accompany) our guests/visitors to spend at least a day at this phenomanal place. I may be biased in that this facility embodies so much of why we choose to live here. The history, art, exhibits and education that you are exposed to here is hard to replicate elsewhere, particularly since we're located in such a historical, cultural and enviornmentally unique area. I would encourage peopletotake 2 days to try to see everything and absorb what's there. This is true particularly when traveling with children. They have some kid-friendly activities, including the raptor presentation that will help break up the probable monotany of viewing the many exquisite exhibits. The Plains Indian, Draper and Buffalo Bill sections are a priority. The art and gun sections, while exceptional, may or may not interest kids.

By Simon T |

I was here years ago (1987) and it made a really good impression such that I was looking forward to going back with someone who has never been to Wyoming. A pass is good for two days, so one need not feel as if they have to rush to see everything in one day. Good gift shop, too. If you're lucky, they have free "cowboy" baked beans served out front. Get a sample and then get the recipe (which they hand out.)

By James B |

Without going into detail, I thoroughly enjoyed the museum. My only regret was not being able to spend more time there. I honestly cannot think of anything that could have been done better.

By CCL2839 |

Impressive museum on 7 acres. 5 museums in one center.
We saw items from Buffalo Bill traveling show. We loved the set of Mr. Remingtons art studio. The huge picture windows are near where people can use colored pencils to create their own art cards. The Plains Indians exhibits are so full of items to see that you can spend hours in it. The artwork and sculptures show the creativity of many generations.
The weapons museum has many historic items. The outdoor raptor show introduced owl, hawk, and eagle.
The ticket receipt that is good for two days allows you to leave for a local lunch break and return in the afternoon or you can find refreshment at the cafe. Interesting book selection in the gift shop.
We drove from Yellowstone NP to see this museum, and we felt it was a worthwhile trip adventure.

By Mees U |

These are actually 4 museums in one. You can spend hours here and with an entrance ticket you get two days entrance. Especially the part about Buffalo Bill and the part with the weapons (more than 4000 weapons) is recommended. The museum also features a large and fun souvenir shop and a café.

By Marilyn S |

This is an outstanding museum. Actually there are several museums in one. There was a branch of the Whitney Museum for Western Art. This was worth the trip to Cody alone. All the included museums were modern and well curated. Natural History, history of firearms, Native American experiences and more.

The cafe for lunch, however was not good. Eat elsewhere.

By Thurman R |

This is an awesome museum to visit. So many exhibits and so much history there. A must see for sure.

By Tammi L |

This was a great museum! We enjoyed every inch of it. We took 2 days to see it since the tickets were good twice. The first day we saw 3 of the 5 museums and went Bach to enjoy the other two. Itisa must do in Cody.

By Lori M |

So much to see! Excellent galleries on a variety of subjects. My husband really enjoyed the gun gallery and we both enjoyed the natural history gallery. Our tickets were good for two days, and we needed every minute of both days to fully see everything on offer.

By David A |

A Museum/Center of World-Renowned Status. Five museums in one. Was there two days and still did not see it all. Take your time to explore it. Research the web page to select what you want to see. An Exclusive Tour of the Firearms Museum is well worth it.

By Sarah |

With 5 museums, there's something for everyone. My husband and son really enjoyed the gun museum. My daughter enjoyed the talk about birds and the Buffalo Bill museum. It's fun to look at the tipis outside. Inside they have an area where they serve food and drinks.

By fredalynn |

Loved every part of the Center of the West but particularly enjoyed our private tour
of The Cody Firearms Museum. Our guide was quite pleasant and extremely knowledgeable. It is the most comprehensive and well displayed firearms museum we have ever seen. I was able to see many firearms I never thought I would have the opportunity to see in this lifetime.

By TwinTourists |

This museum is absolutely fabulous. If you have the time, it takes a couple of days to see. We visited two different days. Because we are members of The Autry Western Heritage Museum in Los Angeles, we share reciprocal membership so our entrance was free.

There are many different galleries to see with all kind of artwork and objects it’s hard to write about all of them. There’s one on the life of Buffalo Bill, a fabulous gallery on the Plains Indian, a firearms gallery, Natural History gallery, and a Western Art gallery.

There’s a little cafeteria to grab a bite to eat and a couple of gift shops.

Make this a definite must see when in Cody.

By Diane B |

Just AMAZING! We spent two days there, and actually could have spent more. Not only is it beautifully arranged, but there is more information than one person can consume in a day! The exhibits are excellently done. Just outstanding!

By Paul B |

We have been looking forward to visiting this museum and we’re not disappointed. The Buffalo Bill Museum was enlightening about someone I had heard of but did not know alot. The Whitney Western Art Museum was one of the best art museums I have visited. Going back tomorrow to see the Plains Indian Museum and the natural history museum. Two days is about right if you want to see everything. BTW, the art in the Buffalo Museum was very good also.

It isn’t possible for me to say enough good things about this museum, actually several world class museums under one roof. One could spend a day in each and still want to come back for more. I particularly enjoyed the Plains Indians museum and wish I had stayed an extra day to tour it in more detail. The firearms museum has to be the best of its ilk in all the country, if not the world. The Whitney Museum of Western Art is fantastic. The museum store is well stocked and definitely worth some visiting time. This is world class and a destination all its own. A must visit when in the Cody area.

By joyce l |

Over the years we have returned to the Buffalo Bill museum as we never get all the way through it. There is just so much to see! I always especially enjoy the art section, and this time we saw the naturalist section for the first time. 'As always, everything is very well displayed and interesting. We stayed 6 hours this time (including lunch) and took many time-outs as we looked around. I could go back again tomorrow though, and see another 6 hours of items I didn't notice this time. It keeps us coming back!

This place is massive with five museums in one. Really enjoyed the gun museum. Very interesting to see so many old and weird pieces. They also have a scavenger hunt for each museum. I rather enjoyed that and ended up looking at and learning about this I probably otherwise would have skipped.

By Vicki W |

Wow -- what an experience. One of the best museums I've ever viewed. Wide variety of exhibits. Loved it!

By Outbacklover |

A not-to-miss experience, especially if you are a history buff or love firearms. Just an amazing collection of artifacts, very well done and very interesting. I would highly recommend a visit.

By georgeminStA |

This is really 4-5 museums in one. There is a lot to see and learn and a good cafe and rest area. It's a "must do" if you're in Cody.

By Meander563698 |

Coming from a city where the museums are top notch we did not expect to encounter such a well done and informative museum in Cody, Wyoming. We were pleasantly surprised by the exhibits and the variety. We highly recommend this great museum that actually houses 4 different museums.

By Lisa W |

The museum has five separate within one building. Excellent exhibits allow at least 2 days to enjoy.

By Katherine S |

The museum experience is very well done. We spent part of 2 days exploring the complex. They have a scavenger hunt in each part of the museum that was a lot of fun for the kids. Such a great time! Everyone we had contact with in the BBCW was helpful and friendly.

The Best way to get a real feel on how it really was in the days of Buffalo Bill. We were there at least 3 hours including the visit to their Gift Shop. I’m looking forward to taking my reprints to get them framed and in my home. We enjoyed and salad along with iced tea. We’ll be back in August along with more Friends & Family. Thank you!!!

By Joy T |

We were not expecting this museum to be nearly as good as it was. It was excellent! We particularly liked the Plains Indian, Draper Natural History, Whitney Art, and Buffalo Bill History portions. The exhibits were well-done, and we learned a lot in each. We did not realize the depth of Will Cody's involvement and enterprise in various aspects of US history until we visited. He was definitely a versatile and energetic character! The coffee bar and the buffet lunch were also very good with a wide variety of offerings. We probably spent 6 hours in viewing time and really could've used two days. We didn't make it to the gun museum because we were short of time.

By Susanne T |

Five museums in one add up to a sensory overload, but it was great!
We spent the majority of our time in the Buffalo Bill Museum and the Draper National History Museum and both were amazing! So much information.
After those two we had a quick lunch in the cafeteria (seating can be a bit tight) and enjoyed a Bison Burger and a cup of vegetable/hamburger soup.
From there we walked through the Palins Indians Museum and our last stop was the Cody Firearms Museum (thousands of firearms), where we shot laser guns, did some target shooting and shot a machine gun.
We did not have the energy for the Whitney Western Arm Museum.
It was 100% worth spending the day there.

By Laurie M |

Amazing experience! Truly so many things to see! Luckily the entry price covered two days! With those are really nice surprise we really enjoyed the gun Museum and all of the animals in the other area. Plus all of the information about Buffalo Bill was super interesting. I could not recommend this place enough

By Mr_Alejo |

Not sure why I was not expecting the quality exhibits they have. We could’ve spent the whole day in there visiting the different areas. There is something for everybody. Great chat as well with the person cooking typical western beans right outside the front entrance. Highly recommend visiting this place and allocating plenty of time for it.

By Nicole B |

Really 5 museums in one, with special exhibits, extra experiences, and more. We saw the free raptor experience as well. Cool peregrine falcon and golden eagle. The Draper Natural History Museum was excellent - especially before going to Yellowstone. The art museum was ok, but the collection by Frederic Remington was special. Expensive, but worth it. The pass is all day, so we left for lunch and returned. A guy was cooking beans and biscuits by the fire next to the chuckwagon out front. Free samples - beans were delicious!

By SunshineF7 |

Best museum I’ve been to in a very long time. Don’t miss it. A little of something for everyone. We spent three hours there and could have spent more time. Our entire crowd just loved this place broken down as 5 museums within one. Would go back again.

By USASUN |

We really enjoyed this exhibition. We had enough time planned. The ticket is valid for 2 days. There are various exhibitions here, we preferred Natural History, Plains Indian Museum, Buffalo Bill and Western Art. The exhibitions were all beautifully done. We particularly liked the Rapter performance in the small garden. You can also take a leisurely break here. The center, a place worth seeing when they're in Cody. We will come back.

By Jon H |

This was my second time visiting this place in 35 years. It was just as awesome this time as my last. Just a great job presenting and explaining the history of the west. The gun exhibit is incredible as is the western art. Definitely worth a stop. Plan to spent at least 2-4 hours here if not the entire day.

By pjj89511 |

This is a fantastic and diverse museum. It really is five distinct museums in one venue. I'm not a firearms aficionado, but I was amazed by the beauty, diversity and historical significance of the collection. The layout and labeling was excellent. We spent five hours total and didn't spend as much time as we would have liked at the Plains Indian Museum, but we were tuckered out by then (it was our last). I would recommend taking advantage of the option of using your ticket for two (consecutive) days and split your visit into two days.

By Leslie J |

This museum so captured its' location. The quality and design was impressive in so small a town. Plan to spend one full day and part of the next if you want to see all five museums. We prioritized and did the Buffalo Bill section first. Neither of us were interested in firearms so we never saw that. There is a good cafeteria there so you don't have to leave for lunch . There is both indoor and outdoor dining. In the outdoor dining area is a playground for the kids to run off some steam. Behind that is Buffalo Bill's house. The museum shop was very well done as well.

By lily f |

Great museum, could spend a long time there! Highlights for us included natural history as we love wildlife. Enjoyed the plains indian exhibit and the buffalo bill section, and surprisingly enjoyed the gun exhibition too! Well maintained and very clean, very informative and great restrooms. Wish we had longer to stay but got our moneys worth.

By Candace B |

Wonderful exhibit - really 5 museums in one, including a natural history section that shows the plants and wildlife in the area. Small fee but the pass is good for two days. Informative. Photos and videos. Beautiful paintings of the old west. Well worth the stop.

By angeleyes27 |

There is no question that this is an excellent museum with 5 distinctive branches in one place. I went to the Buffalo Bill wing which told the story of Buffalo Bill’s life as well as some Native Americans and life at the time. It was sad about his children. I also saw the gun collection, natural history and Buffalo Bill’s house. It is easy to spend 4 hours here. The only negative is that they don’t have maps either paper or signs to show the layout of the museum so you can easily locate what you want to see. I was told it is online but not everyone has an iPhone or is Computer savvy so it is hurtful against those who need it most

By JKW3 |

The chuck wagon out front was a fun, surprising touch! We loved it! Stop on your way in to chat with the camp cook and get a taste of coffee, baked beans, and sourdough biscuits. All so tasty!

The Buffalo Bill museum and the Art museums were excellent. (We didn’t have time for the Natural History museum or the Firearms museum.)

The reason for taking a star off is because of the Plains Indian museum.

1) We expected it to be a much more thorough historical account of the Native American experience. There was some of that, but mostly it was a lot of artifacts – which, of course were interesting, but we felt there should’ve been more historical dates and happenings to give a clearer picture.

2) The text on the displays was frustrating: it was often not black on white (for example, one section was green on green; another tan on white), and it was not easily readable, especially because it was behind glass and you couldn’t get close enough to see it clearly.

By packcal |

We spent a full afternoon and another hour the next morning at the museums. Especially impressed with the Whitney western art, Draper natural history & the Buffalo Bill western story museums.

Good value, friendly service , clean facilities and an easy 2nd day return. Highly recommend.

By Karen J |

Great value! Five huge museums under one roof. Pass includes 2 days of entry - to take your time a s see it all that’s a nice option.
Learned so much.

By Jennifer A |

Wow, this place is a must do! My kids ages 11, and 14 enjoyed this so MUCH! Not to mention my hubby and I loved all the rich history and culture provided in this museum. We spent 2 half days here, and still didn’t see everything. So many interactive exhibits for kids and adults. The bird show was so informative and kept my kids attention. You must go and try this place out!

By Kate J |

The Center has s a world class set 📐 of museums. The Western art collection is exceptional in it's breadth and depth. The Buffalo Bill exhibit offers a unique view of a world famous showman from the turn of the century. The museum of the Plains Indians is comprehensive but the lighting is poor..most unfortunate. The Natural History Exhibit is impressive. We did not visit the gun museum but all are included in the price.

By Halle H |

Our local campground ponderosa, recommended this as a "must do" for our time in cody! Beautiful and informative. We only spent 1 day, but surely could of done 2!

By lou181818 |

With the 5 museums in 1 there is loads to see. We preferred the Natural history one but the others were all great to see and lots to learn about Inc Buffalo Bill's Wild West and over 4,000 guns in the gun museum. Also went to a owl talk outside.

The cafe sold healthy options and freshly made baguettes. Some of the healthiest and freshest food seen in a cafe on our roadtrip!

We spent about 3hrs here which is longer than expected with 2 teenage boys.

By Cubmore |

What a wonderful museum! The collection of firearms, western art of all forms, history of the west, and more! The natural history portion was amazing and very well laid out - from high elevation eco system to the plains and depicting wildlife represented from all ranges. Seemed like a very nice kids area with activities and hands on exhibits. Impressive collections and very reasonably priced - 2 day ticket, as it is really needed because you cannot take it all in with 1 visit. Great for all ages and families.

By JDC163 |

This museum is just awesome! Take two days and visit as much as you can. It is well worth it. The firearm exhibit is incredible.

By jwest |

Spent two half days in late September 2025. When we got there, the staff was very helpful in understanding the ticket options. Since we had arrived around 1pm that day, the standard ticket would get us in that day and then had a 2nd day included. We used that's second day the next morning.
This center contains 5 museums; we did four of them over 2 half days and also attended the raptor show.
Highly recommend and would do it again the next time we are in Codey.

By Michael W |

We were only planning to spend a few hours, but glad that the entrance fee included 2 days. This is 5 museums in one, and enjoyed visiting them all. Excellent description of history with lots of artifacts and well done displays. Spent two days to see everything.

By Mary Ann M |

We spent several hours here and really enjoyed it! Beautiful exhibits and western art displays. I highly recommend you visit if you like museums and/or art.

By Steve R |

This is a comprehensive and exciting look at the impact of Buffalo Bill and a history of the area. Each of the five museums is worth a through visit. The firearms is a huge and well display of firearms through the centuries even including the guns of “Bonanza”! The Plains Indians was especially meaningful and respective! The Art and bronze statues are amazing! I most enjoyed the Buffalo Bill wing. We were tired after 5 hours and knew we had missed so much. If I lived nearby I would certainly have a membership in order to take it all in at a slower pace. This complex has a design that is among the best I’ve seen at telling its story!

By CharleenW_13 |

The improved gun museum is amazing and kept my husband busy for a full 2 days while I enjoyed downtown. The entire complex is worth at least a 2 day trip as there is more to see than the gun displays! What a gem for Cody to have!!

By Barb O |

We got into Cody later than planned but still decided to visit the museum. Our family of 5 split up to what interested them most and saw as much of the museum as we could in 2.5 hours. We were so glad we stopped - so many great displays!

By Josh |

Absolutely worth a visit, but budget a full day to see everything. Every museum on site is excellent.

By Jgtexas59 |

The central was a great way to spend several hours. We started with a light breakfast from the coffee bar, then attended a raptor presentation. We enjoyed the Plains Indian Museum and Buffalo Bill Museum together. My husband toured the Firearms Museum while I visited the Natural History Museum. We also found souvenirs for relatives. Allow at least three hours for your visit.

By Kelly H |

Having been to the museum as a child I was so excited to see the updated museum. It was truly an amazing experience. The exhibits are wonderful. I have always loved western art and this museum has so much to look at from Remington to Moran.

By Footprints779376 |

Could have spent the entire day here and not seen everything. Tons on info on Buffalo Bill and Annie Oakley, but also nice exhibits on Indians, natural history, firearms and artwork.

By Tracy Q |

This place is massive! It doesn’t look that huge from the outside, but there are multiple wings, multiple floors, and one could easily get lost! There’s something for everyone. The staff is friendly, and the bathrooms are clean! I would definitely recommend this place if you’re in Cody! Allow for two days!

By mauiwaves |

This is one of the best if not the best museum we have visited. It is deceptively large. You need at least a full day to cover it all and that includes the raptor talks that they give 3 times a day (different each time). They present information in a factual manner and do not slant information to a particular perspective. The food in the food court is very good and much better than typical cafeteria food.

By JMaria87 |

My husband and I stopped in Cody for an afternoon and visited here. We loved all of the exhibits and found it very informative and enjoyable. We only wished we had more than one afternoon to explore it all.

By CESAR AYLLON |

Incredible history experience to visit this huge place made up by 5 museums, si you'll probably need 1 complete day or maybe visit them in 2 days by staying in beautiful welcoming Cody, WY, USA. Most of the people don't really know who Buffalo Bill was, so it's very worth to visit it's museum 1st and take your time, it'll result very interesting and informative to walk both levels. Take a customized picture with XIX look in family by using a camera on lower level is pretty cool! The other 4 museums are such worth to visit too, of course: Plains Indian, Drapper Natural History, Cody Fireamrs, and Whitney Western Art. Lots of space, easy accessibility, friendly, informative and helpful staff, light meals, snacks and drinks on deli section close to front main doors, playground outdoors accessible from museums, available clean washrooms, gift shop with many variated souvenirs. Very appropriate for families, groups, foreigners, locals, seniors, everyone.

By HeidiGraves |

The museum is FASCINATING! We saw some of the best taxidermy. The firearm collection was the highlight!

By prkozmo |

I spent HOURS in here. It was the best ever. Lots to see and do. The gun room was CRAZY COOL! It was an amazing experience!

By Frugalmama57 |

This is one of the most outstanding museums we have visited in our travels. Housed under one roof, the five museums are full of artifacts, some often seen in museums and some never seen. We especially liked the Buffalo Bill portion of the museum. We knew a little about him but this piqued our interest in finding out more. Such a diverse and interesting person! There was even a video being played of one of his shows! We also learned about Annie Oakley. We were so saturated with information that we left to go to Old Town and then downtown for a drink at the Irma, the hotel he named after his youngest daughter. This was a good plan! We came back refreshed and ready to take on 2 more museums, the art and the guns.

By Don H |

We enjoyed touring through the five museums on site. Especially the Weapons and Ammo museum. Hundreds of classic weapons from the ages to present. The Native American Museum was excellent also as was the museum focused on the life and times of Buffalo Bill Cody. A highlight also was a delicious Bison Burger in the cafe. Try the Bison Bratwurst also. Plan on spending several hours touring the facility. when in Cody.

By Kelly C |

Paced yourself and definitely take the 2 days to really explore. Found the arms museum a bit overwhelming and the art museum underwhelming however. The rest was great, including the raptor show.

By HBSnowFlower |

Having been to some of the world’s greatest museum, I wasn’t expecting such a world class art center in the small town as Cody. But wow! This striking center encompassing five western-themes is absolutely outstanding. Its main gallery focusing on the scout, explorer and renowned showman Buffalo Bill showcases the costumes, artifacts, posters and actual film footage of the Buffalo Bill’s extravaganza that entertained kings, queens, heads of stage and hundreds of thousands of spectators at the turn of the 19th century. The Plains Indian gallery is likewise outstanding, with life-size dioramas recreating their dwellings and culture with artifacts, audios, music and visuals from ancient times to the modern day tribes. The Whitney Western Art is stunning, with its diverse and valuable collection featuring Remington bronzes and striking southwestern landscapes and portraits. We had to run back a fourth time to quickly peruse the multi-level Draper Natural History Museum with its displays on wolves, cougars and bears. Your admission ticket buys a two-day pass, and we visited four times, spending two hours in four out of the five galleries. (Didn’t have time for the Firearms Museum.) If you’re visiting Cody, be sure to stop in here —you might end up spending all day.

By Beckyls213 |

Amazing collection of firearms and history of them. Unable to see everything in one day. Need more time to see it all. The wildlife passport area was fabulous for my nephew, 9.

By cldst221 |

So many exhibits and opportunities to learn about the area culturally and environmentally. Your ticket includes two days entry and you will likely find you are anxious to return the second day if your schedule allows. I recommend stopping at the chuck wagon out front where you can sample authentic cowboy beans and biscuits. Have a chat with the cook and take home some recipes.

By AdventurousGirl 123 |

It is a little pricey , but this is the best museum I have ever gone to. You pay one price and get access to several museums in one ?? Yes please !!! It took me several days to look at the whole museum . ( I looked at one 'museum' per day . ) ( I read everything ..🙄 )

By LaurieB980 |

This set of five museums within one large building was within walking distance of our hotel, so we got to have parts of two days to see what we wanted to see here. The firearm museum was overwhelming with so many older guns and firearms! We enjoyed the western art museum with a tour guide who knew her stuff as she's an art major. The main museum was also very good as was the Natural History and Plains Indian museums. Well worth a visit, but plan to do it over two days rather than cram everything into one!

By Ann M |

I am a local. Our family and our guests love this center. I can only imagine that you will be delighted.

By Sonja F |

There is so much to see that it does really take at least 2 days to get through! There something for everyone in the family there!

By Anonymister_Surrey |

Excellent museum with a huge amount to do.

Great welcome with the chuck wagon outside with a salty character who made great coffee/ biscuits and conversation.

It gave us a great insight into both the old west and the characters who made it.

Food inside is a take it or leave it, uninspired. It didn't detract from the visit

We did part of 2 days here and well worth every cent.

By 2Southerners |

Wow! One of the best museums of the west! The gun museum was absolutely incredible, the BEST in the U.S.! The art museum was spectacular, beautiful paintings and sculptures. This is a must see museum. The guns alone could take you days to visit. Very nice and helpful staff. The gift shop was very good.

By John P |

Was glad that we arrived early as this is a massive museum. The lady said the tickets were good for 2 days and we can see why. It took us 6 hours just to visit the ground floor and still did not see it all. Just wish they had more benches around so us old folkss could sit more often.

By Mike Staublin |

Awesome a must see lots of things to do and see. lots of hands on or experiences that are unique. Make sure to see the raptor show. Eat lunch at the museum saves time and it is pretty good. The bison brat was yummy

By robert-not-home |

Extensive collection of art, firearms, Native American history and of course Buffalo Bill history. Great place to visit to get loads of information about the old west from geology to history and art

By Kristie A |

Incredible! So informative and interesting for all ages. Definitely worth the money and great to make history come alive.

By Juli K |

The Buffalo Bill Center of the West was AMAZING! There are FIVE Museums under one roof. My husband was in awe that they have such a world class museum in a relatively small town!
We spent about 5 hours there but we could have easily spent 3 days. Admission tickets are $21 for an adult & $20 for a senior & are good for two consecutive days.
I loved the Buffalo Bill Museum, the Plains Indian Museum & the Natural History Museum.
We have been to several gun museums but my husband said he had never seen more guns & more unique guns than at the Buffalo Bill Center.
He is a big Gunsmoke fan & they had James Arness’ Colt Single Action Revolver.

By LJC |

My favorite part was the Natural Science museum. The museum about Buffalo Bill was extremely interesting.

By Gator58 |

5 unique museums in one place, Buffalo Bill Cody, Plains Indian, western Art, Natural and the largest firearms museum you will ever see. We spent the entire day and could have easily spent 2 days. A must see if you are near Cody.

By Kristin F |

Our Family loved it. Beautiful and full of so many amazing exhibits. You have the opportunity to learn about so much!

By jmcdaniel6610 |

This was a day and a half extremely well spent. Could have spent more time but had to get ready to leave for home. The raptors show is amazing. Beautiful art work and plains Indian artifacts. Gun section endless. Every weapon you could imagine.

By Midwest_Roamer22 |

This complex of 5 musuems is all under one roof. Your 2-day ticket gets you into all the museums. The natural history museum has many taxidermies as well as explalnations of habitat by altitude. The museum about the Indiginous Plains Tribes describes native life, as well as life after arrival of Europeans. The Buffalo Bill museum is all about the life of ... you guessed it. There's a small art museum, and hunreds of rifles displayed in a museum about firearms. The small cafeteria has a limited but interesting selection. The buffalo bratwurst is good but spicy, but the buffalo chili was great and not spicy so good for kids. There's also a gift shop.

By JJanowitz |

All of the five museums are excellent, we each had our favorites. The firearms museum is impressive, it is a huge comprehensive collection of firearms history. If you are a firearms buff, this is a must see for you. The Buffalo Bill and Plains Indian museums are also excellent. Plan to spend a few hours here, there is a lot to see! The nice thing about the tickets is they are good for two days so you can come back the following day if you get a bit worn out. I can tell you the firearms museum is overwhelming due to the shear volume of displays.

By 46JimH46 |

Plan on a day or so to see this exhibit. Very well planned out with 5 different venues. I especially like the firearms exhibit which showed over 4200 guns. It took us a day and half to go thru everything. You buy and ticket and it is good for two consecutive days. Outside falcon exhibit and show was great! Learned a lot and not to be missed.

By Beth K |

We thought we would spend one afternoon here but I'm glad we went a day earlier and were able to take advantage of the two day ticket. Reasonable admission price and they offer senior and veterans discounts. We ate at the cafe both days and there are a variety of choices including made to order deli sandwiches, soups, salad bar. I highly recommend scheduling two days to visit the 5 separate museums at this center for one admission price.

By gina |

Very interesting museum. Your ticket is good for two consecutive days so we broke the museum up over three visits in 2 days as we had other activities scheduled. Everyone in our group 13-43 found interesting things. Really enjoyed the outdoor raptor experience. The guys could have stayed days in the firearms exhibit. Just a really cool place to learn about the area and the people.

By Sonya G |

We loved the Buffalo Bill Cody Center! Each museum had its own theme and feel and we loved getting to know about Mr Cody. What an amazing man! The Plains Indian Museum was just fantastic. We loved seeing all the clothing, tipis, tools, etc…just a great day in all the museums.

By Susan J |

this is a must for anyone in the area to visit- the information and the displays are incredible.. it took us two days to get through the whole place but it was so worth it!!

By Brenda R |

This museum is so cool. Definitely worth the stop. Our whole family enjoyed it. There are 5 different museums to visit and they all hold their own uniqueness

By DarylJ552 |

The Buffalo Bill Center was the main reason we visited Cody and we were not disappointed. There are 5 sections to the museum, firearms, art, plains Indians, natural history and Buffalo Bill memorabilia. The museums were all good but our favorite was the Buffalo Bill section. There was even a film showing one of the wild west shows from the early 1900's. We spent several hours there and the admission ticket is good for 2 days.

By dottyk70 |

This museum is so well done! Please don't miss this wonderful group of museums! We spent an entire day here and were just amazed at all of the history captured here and displayed so well. I can't say enough good things about this museum. We had lunch here and it was delicious as well. They have wonderful outside areas and we also attended a show about the birds of prey they nurse back to health. A beautiful museum!

By techgmu |

This place is huge with several museums under one roof. We thought it was expensive…even with the senior discount. The artifacts were great, and it was very neat and clean.

By BnB_PA |

There are 5 museums & a raptor show here. Also a food court.
Plan to walk a lot! In 5 hours we saw most of what we prioritized, but could've gone back another day if we had time.
Worth the visit.

By Bobanddiane M |

This place is so huge and offers so much it should have its own hotel so you can rest in between areas!!!! Extraordinary, informative, a definate must visit. The rapter center is awesome.

By dbaizel |

I share many of the fellow reviewers the excellent ratings. We had gone there a few years ago and sadly we did not allocate enough time (afternoon only). This time we were better prepared and allocated two days. While perhaps a bit overkill, we did have a great time (and sore feet at the end of the day). If you want a capsulized lesson on the man (Buffalo Bill Cody), life in the west for both native and settlers, history of guns from the beginning to modern age, a bit of art and even an outdoor aviary, this should be on your "to do" list. They had it all. Their admission price was very reasonable given it was for two days. Best advice I can give is to wear comfortable shoes.

By CRB |

BBCW is a nationally-recognized museum (exchanges things with the Smithsonian) and is actually 5 musuems: Buffalo Bill Wild West Show, Natural History, Plains Indian, Firearms, and Whitney Gallery of Western Art. If you read the informational cards scattered around the exhibits, you could spend several days here. I would recommend that--too much of any museum at once burns out the brain. There are a number of other things to see and do in Cody; try half a day at the museum and the rest of the day elsewhere.

By Anthony C |

A fine museum incredibly well done. Cody, WY is proud of its Buffalo Bill heritage. There are five galleries dealing with Native Americans, natural history, firearms, western art and Buffalo Bill. Each gallery is well appointed and easy to navigate. The native American section is stunning. Amazing experience! Truly so many things to see The staff is friendly and helpful. Well worth 4-6 hours it takes to see it.

By mcanucm |

We visited this establishment for the first time and were truly impressed with each of the five museum’s, which are housed in one building making it convenient! Your ticket purchase is good for a two-day visit if done within a week, which is great!!! We would highly recommend visiting!!!

By Chris M |

So good we visited on 2 days!
Comprehensive exhibits setting out the life and times of Buffalo Bill. Beautiful collection of Buffalo Bill’s posters for his shows.
Massive collection of firearms and indigenous wildlife. Excellent Native American exhibition.

By By_His_Grace |

We arrived in the afternoon and enjoyed what we had time to see, which was the section on Buffalo Bill, Native American history and a brief look at the firearms section as well as the bald eagle outside in the garden.

By gypsy88850 |

This is a truly wonderful museum! It shows the history of the area and lets you get to know Buffalo Bill Cody. I loved the actual film which showed the parade in New York City of his Wild West Show and then some clips of the performances. His costumes are here, as well as saddles and other memorabilia. Wagons and stagecoaches, Pony Express items and so much more! Firearms and artwork plus a terrific exhibit of the animals and plant life of the area at different elevations. There are also bronze statues placed throughout the beautifully landscaped garden areas and a lovely gift shop. I could have spent the entire day here!

By Tim D |

This is a very interesting museum with such a good variety for everyone. That’s a very impressive gun collection. I’d recommend this museum in a heartbeat.

By Kurt K |

Nice museum. Huge collection of fireams the biggest attraction, much larger than Buffalo Bill artifacts. The food court ran out of most items before we got there for lunch.

By Sisterofmany |

My husband has wanted to visit this place for years, finally had the opportunity and was not disappointed!!

We spent a full day there and that was the right amount of time for my husband (and too much for me - I left about 3 hrs before him).

We visited all the sections of the center and sat in on the bird talk about an owl.

Ate in the cafeteria - cheeseburger was substantial and yummy. There was also made to order sandwiches, a salad bar, air fried chicken sandwiches, pulled pork sandwiches, and hot dogs. I think soup and chili also. Sides were limited to a bag of potato chips and rolls (that I noticed).

There is also is a little coffee shop with snacks and pastries.

Employees were helpful and friendly, place was clean and well done.

By Heidi R |

I spent half a day at the BB Center. Most of my time was spent in the Whitney Art Museum and the Buffalo Bill History Museum. Loved both, but was genuinely delighted by the Whitney. I would have never expected such an amazing collection of art in this small, northern Wyoming town. You can view the whole exhibit in 1-1.5 hours, but I went through twice!! The guides are very knowledgeable and friendly. I look forward to visiting again!

Get a tour by Kirsten or a staff member for a wonderful experience & explanation for everything on view. The tour is invaluable. Kathy

We had a private tour and thought it was great and well worth the extra cost. This set of museums is a national treasure. The Plains Indian museum is the best of its type I've ever seen. Highly recommended!

By roadtripper |

This is an incredible museum; we learned so much and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The staff was friendly and there is much to see. It may be best to split your visit up over two days so that you don't get information-overload.

By Pamela B |

This place is awesome. We spent two whole days there, mostly in the Buffalo Bill part. The museum tells his incredible story so well and has lots of his personal possessions on display, The Plains Indians exhibit is also fascinating.

By revG777 |

At first it may seem a little pricey, but when you realize it is actually five fantastic museums under one roof, it then turns out to be quite the bargain. I personally liked the Buffalo Bill museum the best. My wife ranked the natural history museum as the best. We spent five hours there and didn't even see the Firearms museum.

By BarbaraMD59 |

My husband and I spent almost all day in this museum which is really 5 different museums under one roof. All of the museums are great containing a lot of excellent displays and information. I would recommend devoting a day to the whole museum. The only down side is the very insufficient food sevice available in the museum.

By Marc & Jeanie |

The museum offers a wide variety of history topics. There are four distinct museums in one. Plan two full days to enjoy all the history.

You will be really happy when you visit this place, it definitely far exceeded our expectations. You get a wonderful animal exhibit area, native American Indian history and relics. Of course you have the Buffalo Bill exhibits and Custer battle history. There is an art gallery with beautiful sculptures and paintings I wish we could of taken home. Finally guns, guns and more guns. Everything from modern day weaponry to 16th century style rifles and pistols. Possibly one of the largest collections of guns in the world. They have a Bird of Prey show every few hour where they bring out a different species, we saw the owl. Their is not cafeteria if you get hungry and the staff on site were so friendly, helpful and informative of some of the different exhibits which helped give you a better experience and understanding of what you were looking at. We spent 3 hour here and probably didn't even see it all , but thoroughly enjoyed everything. For those who want to visit, I have great news you can buy a pass here which is good for a couple days. We didn't know that, so wanted to share with everyone thinking about going here. Definitely don't miss this place if you are passing through Cody, it has something for everyone.

Fantastic place to visit and learn so much about the area's history!!! You can spend hours here. We had planned on 2 hours but you definitely need 4 hours. We highly recommend coming here!!!

By Arnie S |

Great venue--five museums in one location. Don't miss the cowboy giving out the free samples outside by the chuckwagon. This is the true west and should not be missed.
I won't go into details because I don't want to ruin your surprises.

By Karen S |

This museum encompasses 5 different museums under one roof. It is amazing and all agaves can find something they would enjoy.
We were in town for the Winchester Gun Show at a separate location.
The Firearms Museum contains over 7,000 guns.
My husband was very content!!!
We chose the Birds of Prey Demonstration at 2:30PM. It was held in the outside garden. There was shade for about 60% of the time but we weren’t overheated. We leaned quite a bit about Turkey vultures and golden eagles.
They had one of each who can no longer live in the wild.
The Whitney Museum of Art was exquisite! It blew us away with the quality and amount of art on display. Remington, NC Wyeth, and more.
There were paintings, sculptures, and bronzes.
The Museum of the Old West contained thousands of artifacts and historical displays.
We recommend you need at least 2-3 days to really see and learn about everything.

By AEBBrenham |

A complex of five Museums that is superb. Buffalo Bill Museum, Art Museum, Plains Indian Museum, Natural History Museum, and Remington Museum.
It cannot all be seen in a day.
History.
It Should be on your list!

By LV |

This is about a 1-1.5 hour stop at best. There is a lot about Buffalo Bill as you would expect. The Native American exhibits were ok. The eagle area was ok. Glad there was a Sierra Trading Post down the street. Food at the cafe was good

By UliS |

It's hard to evaluate the Buffalo Bill Historical Center per se because it's actually various different museums under one roof. The fact that you have two days to enter is good, because to see everything without rushing you need the two days too. I liked the Firearms Museum, the Plains Indian Museum and of course the Buffalo Bill Museum. An absolute must-see in Cody, and definitely plan a lot of time.

By JimandDawneS |

This place is very well done and you could spend a day here reading, looking and learning. Something for everyone. We are new to museums but are enjoying what we have seen so far on our travels. This would be on the top of our list so far. Ticket price is good for two days.

By Sara D |

This is really five museums in one. So the entrance fee is so reasonable and it is for two consecutive days. I had heard that this was a “must do” while in Cody and it certainly is. Plan on spending more than a couple of hours here. We spent two four hour days. What a gem!

By IndianaJoe4 |

One of the best museums you will ever visit. We always stop at the museum every time we go thru Cody.

By Bridget S |

What a great museum. We enjoyed that it was divided into sections so we could choose what we wanted to see since we were on a limited schedule.

By speechmom |

My husband and I enjoyed the firearms museum. We spent many hours going through it. We ran out of time to see it all but our ticket was good for two days so went back. We looked through the Natural History museum. It was ok…. But we REALLY liked the firearms and would go back

By nene |

You could spend two hours or two days! Wonderful exhibits and information on Buffalo Bill, Native Americans and western art. And then there’s those guns!

By Ellen34134 |

We are not huge fans of museums, but this place was amazing! There’s so much to see here that it might not be a bad idea to spread it over 2 days since your entry ticket is good for 2 days. We were not able to schedule an additional day but we were very impressed with everything we saw. Don’t miss the collection of firearms section. It was awesome!

By Victor221 |

This place has five different museums all under one roof. Most favorite museum was the gun museum. Definitely worth spending some time here.

By kgriger2 |

This museum was wonderful. We arrived at 8:30 am and lef at 2:30. There was so much to see. The fact there was also a small restaurant available was great. There are 5 different areas, natural history, Buffalo Bill, the Plains Indians, fine art and an amazing firearms collection displaying over 4,000 weapons. Plan a lot of time to get to see it all. This was really worth the $20 admission price.

All to the staff were knowledgeable and friendly. I really looked forward to this museum and made the trip to Cody to see it and I was in no way disappointed.

By Mike H |

There is a lot to see here. There are 5 museums in the building and they also have a raptor show that lasts 30 minutes or so. There is the gun museum with over 5000 exhibits on 2 floors. There is an art museum, a Plains Indian museum, the Buffalo Bill museum and natural history museum.
There is a lot to see and you can't see it all in a couple of hours. Allow at least 5 or preferable most of the day. It costs $20 per person and that isn't out of line for what you get to see.

By Kaye |

This was an unexpected surprise! We were very impressed with this museum and all that it holds. 5 museums under one roof, so it has something for everyone!

By Ronald L |

The firearms collection is incredible but found the rest of the museum to lack depth and interest. Native American museum gave a glimpse of way of life but told little of their history on out continent. The natural history had diaramic displays of ecosystems but only a short video on the amazing geology in the area. The Buffalo Bill portion was interesting but expected more on the western migration.

By Lisa G |

This is a great museum. Really, it's 5 separate museums & will take at least a full day. (The admission is actually valid for 2 visits during a 5 day period.) All the museums have a specialty and all do a great job with their didactics and displays. We spent the most time in the Natural History musum and the Buffalo Bill musum. But while the firearms museum is the most comprehensive we've ever seen. We would have loved a larger exhibit about firearms in TV and movies. The Plains Indian museum has some very interesting displays. The art museum also has some incredible western art-both "traditional " and modern. We strongly recommend a visit.

By Emily K |

Great value with a LOT of museum to see! If you like history, Native American artifacts, firearms, natural science, artwork, or the west this place is for you. Also, our tickets were good for two days. We spent a whole afternoon here and loved it.

By Capemama4 |

We got off the plane, arrived in Cody and this was our first stop. Five Museums under one roof. This information helped us learn more about the area and its history. Great way to start out trp!

By Anthony T |

All of the museum's were the best experience had a great a educational experience also a well laid out center friendly and curtious staff

By shartley2016 |

Loved the section on Natural History, but also like the part on Buffalo Bill and his history. Actually really liked the Plains Indian Museum as well. Everything we so well presented and lots of interactives for kids, it was clean, well lit, well staffed, just excellent in almost every way. The only negative is some of the video presentations had quite low audio and I didn't see any mechanism that we could turn them up, so we ended up bypassing a few of those. But that didn't diminish our experience. It was wonderful, and highly recommend.

By Whinbrook |

Impressive and comprehensive collection of museums pertaining to the Wild West, Buffalo Bill and the culture of this period in American history.

The art gallery was of international standards, brilliant. The Plains Indians gallery was involving and very interesting, quite moving in parts as well. The Buffalo Bill section was also very illuminating and gave an in depth appraisal of the man and his showmanship. The gun museum was less interesting but maybe that was a cultural thing. The natural and wildlife exhibitions were also involving.

There is a lot to see and its possible to get 'culture fatigue' quite quickly but your entry ticket is good for two days so you can pace yourself and get the most out of all the museums.

By Marianik l |

5 museums in 1 but it is especially the one dedicated to Buffalo Bill and the one dedicated to the Indians which are interesting.
A beautiful and informative trip back in time.

By DaisyWI |

This is really a wonderful museum center, with so many things to see under one roof. Additionally, there is a dining area, large gift shop, and outdoor courtyard with play center for kids, sculptures, Buffalo Bill's childhood home, and there were signs about a raptor/birds of prey demonstration (we did not do). Flowers/grounds were beautiful. We all did the Buffalo Bill Museum and the Native American area; some of us also did the weapons and the western art. I thought it was all very well-done and well-kept. We were on a tight schedule so we did a whirlwind tour but we were able to see a lot and grab a quick lunch (overpriced and not great, but convenient) in under three hours.

By tvkelly |

Plan to spend a full day here. There is so much to see. Fantastic art collection from the likes of Charlie Russell and so many more. The gun museum is incredible as well. If you are a gun buff this is an excellent venue to visit.

By Loundonna |

What a fine museum. Cody, WY is proud of its Buffalo Bill heritage. The museum is so much more than a tourist destination however. There are five galleries dealing with Native Americans, natural history, firearms, western art and Buffalo Bill. Each gallery is well appointed and easy to navigate. The staff is friendly and helpful. Well worth 4-6 hours it takes to see it.

By Bill |

This is a fabulous complex of museums. Something for everybody. Well done and well displayed. The statues outside are worth the trip .

By Marcie G |

I am not a huge fan of museums but this is not to be missed. I found all of the areas fascinating. It is very well done.

By TripFan18 |

Although we had been here before it was many years ago and the museum has greatly expanded since then. It's actually five different museums under one roof.
We spent over three hours there and really couldn't see it all. An added surprise was the raptor rehab center there which does two talks each day. The raptor expert giving the presentation was excellent.
The staff was incredibly friendly and informative. Will definitely go again in the future if we are in Cody.
PS If you have any other museum memberships be sure to check to see if they have reciprocal privileges as you may be able to get a free or reduced entry ticket. Even if not, the cost of entrance is well worth it.

By oxengirl |

Why an amazing place! Took me an entire day to see the many exhibits & could have visited again, it's so large. Tastefully presented, chocked full of history the Art is exceptional. This is a must see if in the area.

By Charles B |

A great museum on your way to or from Yellowstone National Park. It's actually five museums, combined into one building: Cody Firearms Museum, Plains Indian Museum Natural History Museum, Buffalo Bill Museum, Western Art Museum. Especially enjoyed the raptor presentation featuring live birds in the courtyard.

By 9travelbug1947 |

The museums at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West are awesome. I could have used 3 more days to see all the exhibits. My husband and son were so impressed by the Firearms Museum, that we spent at least 4 hours in that section alone! Even if you are not a firearms enthusiast, the history is fascinating. We only had one day to spend and I missed so much that I would have liked to see, more time in Natural History, and I did not have a chance to explore Western Art or the Bill Cody Museums. I did buy raffle tickets ( the centers biggest annual fundraiser), so when I go back to pickup my prize (a 1959 Corvette convertible) (I wish), I can see everything I missed on this trip!

By Marex |

This huge museum is a fabulous way to spend a day. Its name doesn't begin to describe it. If you love western art, firearms, history or Americana this is the place to be.

By Judew51 |

There are things I never knew about him. Seeing his outfits he wore during his shoes was cool. Annie Oakley was represented also. The wild life exhibits were very realistic.

By Liz S |

Our last day in Cody turned out to be a rainy day and a trip to the museum was the perfect place to be. I was amazed at the versatility of the museum. We stayed in there for hours and one trip is not enough. I learned about the Indians, art, environment and culture Buffalo Wild Bill Cody’s Wild West Show. If you are in Cody this is a must see.

By paulabc2 |

Wow! So much to see here. From the gun museum, which my husband could not stop talking about, to the Indian museum, we spent 4 hrs and could have come back a second day as your ticket is good for 2 days in a row. They also had a bird raptor area with eagles and other birds where they gave talks. The center has a cafe where you can sit and eat. So it was comfortable to rest in between going to all the museums.

OK, so to cut to the chase, this is an exceptional museum (exhibit hall) that really demands at least one full day to enjoy! There are so many interesting exhibits and collections that you truly need sufficient time to enjoy them all.
We, unfortunately, did not plan to initially stop here while passing through Cody. And, we hastily chose to stop in with limited time on our schedule. So, sad for us because we really didn't get to explore the whole wonderful Center.
There are basically 5 or more museum areas or exhibition halls. We thoroughly got to see the firearms collection (huge and impressive)! And we saw the current Buffalo Bill exhibition. We ran through the natural museum portion, and grabbed a bite to eat. The dining area was huge and there was a complimentary pianist playing the piano while we ate. Very relaxing and lovely atmosphere.
We were unable to see much more in our time frame, but you could easily spend the whole day here learning, enjoying everything they have.
The exhibitions are very professional, detailed, and truly informative. And, the whole Center is a fine museum in total.
Great place for the adults and children as well. The outdoor gardens, and exhibits looked quite interesting (areas for children to play too), and we're sorry we missed them.
If ever in Cody, this is a fabulous attraction and museum. Just plan ahead for a day or two's worth of enjoyment.

By Heather H |

This is a must-do while in Cody! There are five museums in one, and all of them are very well-done. The gift shop was very nice too. There was so much interesting information, and even my 15 year old son enjoyed it. The staff were very friendly and helpful. So glad we went!

By dennys34 |

There’s five museums you should take some time to explore them all. They’re very interesting as a great gun show all about Buffalo Bill and also all about the native people. We enjoyed it a lot.

By yrttep |

The best firearms collection ever! Interactive and kid family. If we had the time we would have stayed all day

By Drake Hokanson |

Expert curation, excellent exhibits. An essential stop for anyone interested in the history and life of the American West

By Peter W |

Guided tour by Kirsten and Emma.... very personable and knowledgeable folks... took us all through museum and explained much of the history and impact of the exhibits... gave us a real appreciation of western history contained there.
Strongly recommend contacting Tour Coordinator for guided tour.

By Erin Z |

This museum was very unexpectedly amazing! I didn't know what to expect, and it's world class. Definitely worth checking out.

By Ken D |

something for everyone- a huge gun exhibit- 4,000 on display, I think: buffalo bill exhibit was very interesting- including live video for the early 1900's, indian art also

By Gregg D |

TheBuffalo Bill Center of the West is a MUST SEE! There are five museums under one roof including a natural history museum, a Plains Indians museum, a fine art museum, a Buffalo Bill Cody museum, and a gun museum. Each of them is fantastic. The exhibits are well designed and lighted and truly show off the work on display. There is a thoughtful and natural flow to the design that leads to a cohesiveness that is sometimes missing in other museums. I cannot imagine a trip to Cody that does not include a stop here. The ticket price includes all five museums and is good for two days.

By TravelJohn092 |

I visited this Museum about 10 years ago, they have grown! This is about twice the size and has so much to look at. Lots of history, Buffalo Bill is the #1 with wildlife being #2 but the extras they added over the years is just as interesting as Buffalo Bill or the wildlife is. The other thing that really caught my eye was the weapons displayed, not just American. If you are military or a 1st responder, you could get a discount. This was really amazing! Really nice gift shop and food area.

By Dayseemay |

Hubby and I spent several hours at this beautiful, well laid out museum. There were several separate wings (i think 4 or 5). We especially enjoyed the section on the Plains Indians, Buffalo Bill and Firearms. All were well thought out, interactive and represented the genre well. We were very impressed overall!
