Worth a visit

By Fleetboy1 |

Got the Combo package with the OdySea. Really nice place. I enjoyed it even though I am not into Butterflies. If you are it a must see.

A walk in nature

By Jan C |

The 3-D movie is educational and fun. Stroll through lush gardens and watch the gentle butterflies and moths fly gracefully in the air. From land, sea and serpents a unique experience for all ages.

Awesome!

By lamonte m |

When we left my grandson said “it was the BEST day of my life!”. Need I say more. It was truly magical!

Informative and fun, but kind of pricey for an hour

By David L |

The experience starts with an informative 15 minute movie about monarch butterflies. Then you walk into the garden with lots of butterflies all around. There are a few other exhibits of reptiles and small fish that can be seen in a few minutes. It seemed a bit expensive to spend $25 for less than an hour. But OK to do it once. Not sure I would go again.

Everyone loves butterflies

By wardgarner |

What's not to love about a butterfly garden. This is a quiet and peaceful place to watch butterflies and just relax for a while. Kids of all ages will love this. As you enter the exhibit, they have hundreds of chrysalis. You might even be lucky enough to watch a butterfly emerge. Bring your camera and prepare to feel your heart rate lower.

Winged Friend Flying Freely

By oiobafblue |

This was a well controlled exhibit. None of the species are indigenous so they are very careful that nothing other than humans get in or out. It is a very attractive display and quite interesting. It is definitely worthwhile for the nature lover and I think most young people would also enjoy it. Go if you have time.

Wonderful!

By jv66210 |

We have visited the Butterfly Wonderland several several times. We wish we lived closer and could visit it more. We spend hours photographing all the beautiful butterflies in the greenhouse. We have been to several similar attractions across the country, and this is one of the best.

Beautiful setting and interesting

By Judy D |

We took our granddaughters 10 & 7 and they enjoyed spotting the butterflies but there weren’t any hands on activities included like at the butterfly pavilion in Denver. I would assume that it’s because the OdySea Aquarium is next door and does have some interactive exhibits. I really enjoyed getting to have a tarantula crawl on my hand and seeing more insects in the Denver attraction and expected a comparable experience. Also I expected more interaction with the “guide” and more shared information. I did enjoy the live music 🎶.

Timing is everything

By Quilt22 |

Four adults--two in their 20s, two in their early 50s. We purchased tickets online in October for visiting in December. The place was a nightmare. The crowds were incredible--people were shoulder to shoulder with no room to walk anywhere and enjoy the peace of the butterflies and gardens. We paid extra for the behind the scenes tour. Don't. There were 24 of us being shepherded and hurried but no behind the scenes activity. Other people who were at the venue could stand and listen/watch/participate so what exactly did we pay extra for? The five minutes in with the reptile guy? And why the reptile guy? We thought we were going to see behind the scenes with the butterflies!

Behind the Scenes Tour worth the extra fee

By HnRcup |

My in-laws and I enjoyed the Behind the Scenes Tour with Adrian. She was very knowledgable and was able to answer the group's various questions. The butterflies were lovely to see and there was a good variety. There was also a small reptile viewing hallway, as well as a small sample of fish, stingrays, and even a couple sharks. There were parents/grandparents with young children there that were enjoying the venue.

More than butterflies

By Barbara L |

Loved this place. There were many different kinds of butterflies, and we loved walking around several times to see what we could. After buying a snack, we went through the other exhibits. They had bugs, reptiles, and some fish. Then we went back to see more butterflies. The staff was very friendly. I highly recommend spending a couple of hours here.

Absolutely stunning!

By Jennifer M |

I visited Butterfly Wonderland on Sunday morning with my cousins and their little ones. We had a fantastic time! I easily could have spent the entire day there wandering around gazing at everything. The 3D movie shown before you enter the facility is beautifully done, and pays a bit of homage to The Hungry Caterpillar (through August 2019, I believe this part runs). I spent about an hour watching butterflies break free from their crysalis', to begin to dry off and expand their wings. The atrium was fantastic - huge, plenty of space to walk around and so many lovely plants and flowers to see, with thousands of butterflies hidden amongst. I purchased some edible insects for one of my younger (daredevil) cousins, and a butterfly necklace for her sister from the gift shop. I'd be happy to return during my next visit to Scottsdale!

beautiful butterflies

By Stiegjl |

We have been to other butterfly conservatories and they are all about the same. We learned new info, would recommend if not been there before

Beautiful butterfly habitat

By Kelly W |

Absolutely incredible to see all of the varieties of beautiful butterflies. Loved the gorgeous flora throughout the habitat as well. Both my husband and I had butterflies land on us, which was truly amazing! I highly recommend coming to this place, you will leave in awe!

Very beautiful but expensive

By ashlieturner10 |

My kids were enthralled by all the butterflies in the atrium. They loved being surrounded by them. They also enjoyed the 3D movie. However, the pricing on this attraction is a bit steep for the overall event. BUT it's still a very beautiful experience.

General Tour The Best

By RICK B |

My husband and I signed up for the Friday behind the scene tour and would not suggest that to other visitors. For the money spent, it does not offer that much more than a regular entrance, in fact several members that started with our group, left and just did their own walk through.
The positive things that you see are the 3-D film on Monarchs, the large indoor garden area with loads of butterfly’s, and the display in the incubation area. The reptile area has workers who give explanations on what to look for, which is also done in the small aquarium area. We did go in the reptile workroom, which was the only part that was truly different from a regular admission.

Butterfly Wonderland-Wonderful Day; Great for all ages!

By Barbrod13 |

Our entire family had a wonderful day at Butterfly Wonderland! It is a great place for all ages. The exhibits were beautiful. The staff is so knowledgeable. Gary made our experience there so amazing with the amount of facts and interesting stories. The passion of nature was clear from the well designed exhibits to the staff that creates the experience. Thank you Gary for memorable day! And....discounts are offered for children, seniors and even military discounts. Truly great for all ages!

Allow a full day to see everything

By Janet F |

This is part of a larger complex including the aquarium and dolphin show. Allow yourself a full day to see everything. It is all fairly new and is lots of fun. the kiddos will love it,

Fantastic

By BobAdams111 |

This place is amazing! Very educational and beautiful place to spend a few hours. The butterfly exhibit has thousands of butterflies. There are even small exhibits of fish, lizards and insects. My 4 year old loved the 3D movie and we spent about 3 hours here. We only left as the restaurant on site was limited in choices.

Wonderful

By wilsone8 |

Did the Butterfly Wonderland and Aquarium Combo and was a wonderful way to spend an oppressively hot day in Scottdale but would be equally enjoyable anytime of the year. Enthusiastic staff and great exhibits.

Such a variety of experiences

By Nancy SC |

I love this place! My niece and I have been members for three years. We love everything from the 3D movie, to the emergence room to the actual aerie. Such a diversity of color and genres.

We also love the addition of the reptiles and fish exhibits. They are featuring a local artist and their large glass pieces! And we always find something cute in the gift shop.

A True Wonderland

By Kim |

While visiting Arizona, I spent a weekend in Scottsdale to experience some attractions at the Arizona Boardwalk. The Butterfly Garden was our first stop.

The attraction limits how many people can be in at one time. During the pandemic era, masks are required inside this attraction.

We started by entering a theatre - one seat must be left open between family pods. Not exactly 6 feet of distance, but masks are required, so the risk is still low.

We viewed a 14 minute 3D movie about the life cycle of the butterfly. It was really cool. My 6 year old daughter loves butterflies and loved this film. The 3D features are not scary at all - they're just butterflies that make you want to reach out and touch them.

After the video, we were ushered into the butterfly conservatory. It is hot (there are fans). But the butterflies are everywhere. Tons of them. One of them landed on my mom and hung out with her for a bit as we moved around the conservatory.

You are not allowed to touch the butterflies or try to catch them, but if they land on you, congrats! It's an awesome photo op! There are butterflies of all shapes and sizes here, and of many gorgeous colors. There are benches everywhere to sit and watch them flutter, wait for them to come land on you.

After the conservatory, you'll find a mini aquarium! Surprise! You'll find some gorgeous fish here local to the AZ lakes and rivers, as well as a dwarf caiman! There are also some tiny beautiful colored frogs, turtles, snakes, and other reptiles. You'll even find a few insect and arachnid species, including a tarantula.

All in all, this was a fantastic experience, and I highly recommend - especially for kids and butterfly lovers alike.

Super fun! But be patient and calm

By Lauren P |

So fun! Wear bright colors as the butterflies tend to be attracted to them. Just be patient, don’t move around crazy and they will land on you. Definitely a fun experience!

Beautiful! Should definitely visit! Price is a bit expensive

By amalichica |

Its a beautiful place with a cool movie to watch. The butterfly conservatory is gorgeous. Only complaint is the price of the ticket. For that price i would expect to spend more time there

Fabulous! Educational and Entertaining

By NancyN9 |

What an educational and entertaining area!
Butterflies from all over the world.
We had a fabulous time watching and learning about different butterflies.
The movie when entering was so educational and awesome on the flight of the Monarch butterflies.
Highly recommended for everyone and every age group.

Mrs. Lesley King

By Lesley K |

What a peaceful but fun place! A little native American pipe music while enjoying a huge variety of butterflies.

We loved it!

Beautiful

By Cancun1996 |

This is such a cool place Butterfly Wonderland is awesome from seeing the chrysalis to the actual butterflies flying around was amazing so beautiful they are my teen kids loved it along with my husband and myself would recommend it to anyone and get the double tickets for odysea world and Butterfly Wonderland and you save a ton of money enjoy

Chickens?!

By Fiona LM |

Had an amazing time here, loved the butterflies! But by far the star of the whole visit were the chickens! These good boys (or girls) we’re helping to control the big populations inside the conservatory (bugs other than the butterflies at least). They were a welcome surprise, especially the sassy floofy one!

Beautiful!!

By Mark M |

We recently visited the butterfly museum and were pleasantly surprised. The service was impeccable and the place was amazing! It was like a magical wonderland !

Great Experience!

By Mel4osu |

We love LOVE butterflies and have been to the Butterfly Conservatory in Key West - this was just as great of an experience. The butterflies were landing on us and there was all kinds to see!

Just ok

By PerryLa |

We love visiting butterfly conservatory’s when we travel. This was the largest facility we had been to but it might have had the least number of butterflies which was disappointing. It was also quite expensive for what we saw. The one thing I did love was the educational components, there was a great 3D movie, and I think we learned a lot through that. Overall I’d say it was just ok.

Very informative!

By Marsha P |

You will see butterflies through their entire development, which we had not seen elsewhere. Lovely to sit and just watch the "flutterbys".

walk-thru stunning display of butterflies

By Glenda F |

So many beautiful creatures, great photo opps amongst the colourful winged critters - they look like dancing fairies and if you're lucky, one or more will land on you. Suggest you wear something sky blue then you may get one of the giant blue butterflies land on you - size of your hand!!

Butterflies, lizards and snakes..oh my!

By Jan C |

One of the best things to visit at the butterfly wonderland is the 3D theater. It’s amazing as they flutter right in front of you as your learn some interesting facts on the Monarch Butterfly. This is the largest butterfly conservatory in the country. It is very humid and full of dancing happy butterflies. Check out the rainforest reptiles, tropical water exhibit and learn about metamorphosis of the butterflies. There is a cafe if you need a snack and the gift shop is full of unique butterfly-themed items.

Beautiful

By Mleritr22 |

There is a 14 min video on the monarch butterfly, and then you are surrounded by TONS of butterflies, and it's so magical. The gift shop is cute too.

Worth lifetime membership

By James Y |

We bought a lifetime membership when the facility first opened and find ourselves going at least 3 to 4 times per year. Walking amongst the butterflies, especially in the morning, is the nourishing and sustaining experience. The staff are uniformly friendly and helpful.

Great place for visit and quiet conversation while observing beauty!

By donna s |

Wanted to just be somewhere we could enjoy our grandson and talk. So went here. Brochure said wear bright colors if you want butterflies to land on you! He was in black shirt and huge blue butterfly landed on him first thing and visited him for 5 minutes. Was a beautiful place to sit quietly and visit while watching the butterfly s. So many varieties. The koi pond was fascinating too! I caught a glimpse and then spent a significant amount of time locating the green butterfly back amongst the greenery. Wonderful place to visit and we had a wonderful visit with our young man!

Escape into a Wonderland

By katrina81476 |

You can see butterflies in your garden but not like this. The emergence room gives you the ability to see multiple types of butterflies emerging from their chrysalis and drying their wings. Then you enter the area where the butterflies are fly freely among the plants. Sometimes they will land on you but whether the do or not it's just a magical place. Besides the butterfly exhibit the also have reptiles and insects. While this visit was just my husband and myself my 5 year old grand children would have loved this place. Well worth the entry fee.

Worth the visit

By Brian S |

The weather wasn't the greatest around Xmas during Christmas so I spent a couple of hours here. The staff was all very passionate about butterflies and the fish and reptile sections were worth checking out too (part of the $25 entry fee).

Butterflys Everywhere!

By avalawn |

What an amazing sight! The room with the butterflies was something that I had never seen before. The butterflies were so beautiful, and the staff does a good job with moving people in and out. The area that houses the butterflies is a fun stop if you are in the vicinity. I also enjoyed the movie that was shown prior to seeing the Butterflys-well worth it.

Amazing time. Use light clothes.

By Nanda |

There are not many places like this one. Is a big place with wonderful butterflies. You have the chance to be near the most beautiful creatures. Bonus point for the bees. The place is really warm because of them, so, go with light clothes.

Very unique experiance

By Travel290342 |

I am 62, have been to many zoos, aquariums and animal parks, but this was something I've never seen before. The opening 3D movie was a super quality I just wish it was longer than 14 minutes. The chrysalis room was very interesting and of course the butterfly outdoor area was beautiful. It is a bit limited for the high admission, but I can see how a place like this would take a lot of money to run. All in all glad we went, gave us lots to talk about after we left.

Fun to watch butterflies

By eshoptodrop |

This is a fascinating place to see butterflies. They have a cocoon hatchery, then the adult butterflies are in a very large place. There are some very beautiful butterflies. They have some cute birds as well, and a beehive. There is also a reptile/amphibian section and a fish section.

Kids loved it.

By David R |

A little pricey but the kids had a great time. In fact they keep asking to go again. Cafe is mainly snacks some food but not a great variety.

Really Interesting - cost is high

By Bailey7778 |

Beautiful butterflies, flowers, and lots to see. The butterflies are truly amazing! The color and size and detail you are able to see is fantastic. No where else could you see that many different butterflies.

The down side is the cost. For two adults it was over $50. My grand daughter was free because she is only 2. I am not sure why the cost is so high....so, I doubt I would go again.

We went on a Monday morning thinking it would be less busy. However, there were plenty of people and kids there! Not sure if there is a down time.

Amazing experience

By Kindra L |

We've been to rainforest type places before. The number and diversity of butterflies at Butterfly Wonderland is amazing.

It was fun but overpriced

By Sandy |

This place is really cool and a great learning opportunity but the ticket prices are pretty high. Also with kids, I was constantly worried about the “no touching” policy. It was fine for a one time visit but I have no reason to make it a regular attraction for our family.

Butterflies & Insect Snacks

By Betty B |

Sit in the solarium and watch butterflies around you. Interesting 3D film about monarch butterflies life. Insect and fus displays A vending machine selling insect snacks

Gift shop seemed expensive. Ticket price on the pricey end. But butterflies were great!!

Flights of fancy

By sweeneydh |

Tour of Butterfly Wonderland was initiated by my wife and I was not enthused. After completeing the tour found I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would recommend it.

Wonderful Surprise

By JawDocAZ |

We had gone to the Butterfly Wonderland earlier and found it a very educational and enjoyable experience. We had purchased tickets enabling us to come back as desired during the year. We did not realize that in addition to the capacity to return with our grandchildren, we would be able to sign up at no charge for "Painting a Butterfly" lessons. My wife and I brought my son and his wife for the lesson. The artist in charge of instruction was very patient, kind, and instructive. We all experienced a very pleasurable couple of hours painting butterflies. Light snacks were provided. The instruction was superb and the experience delightful. Would highly recommend.

Butterflies abound

By justjoan2 |

Fish and reptiles were just OK but the butterfly exhibits were more interesting. Lots of pupae and adults but they weren’t very active on an overcast day.

Staycation

By Cheryl |

We went with my grandson when he broke his hip at age 8. He was very fragile and this place was very accommodating as far as his wheelchair. It was relaxing for him which we needed. We were able to take our time and he loved it when the butterflies landed on him. We will return.

Quality time with kids

By Kate Best |

Watching movie about butterflies and exhibit was better than expected. Kids enjoyed the visit. Nice cafe inside, clean bathrooms

Worth the money

By geoguy2017 |

We've been to several butterly pavilions and this one remains our favorite when visiting Phoenix (this was our fourth time). We went on a rainy day and so, it seemed, did everyone else. Despite the large number of visitors it didn't seem too crowded and everyone was respectful of providing close access to the butterflies. Great variety and really great for photography.

A great way to get out of the heat with kids for a few hours.

By LindaE05 |

If you live in Scottsdale or the Pheonix area. this can be a good few hours out of the heat but at 16.00 a kid and 23.95 a kid you might want to invest in the annual pass.

The butterfly area is really what you are paying for and the area is nice with lots of butterflies. Make sure you and your kids wear bright shirts to attract the butterflies to land on you. That is the highlight of the visit.

But after that aside from the small aquarium and stingray pond, there is not much. Maybe I'm expecting too much for the amount paid.

The pictures they take are for sale in the gift shop at 20,00 a photo. I think if they throw in a souvenir cup or another keepsake for the kids it may make me feel better about the price of the adult and the kids.

Truly Wonderful

By Travellingphoenix64 |

On a recent sojourn to the OdySea in the Desert complex in Scottsdale, I took my wife to see Butterfly Wonderland. This is my second visit, and this facility just keeps getting better!

Featuring more than 3000 live butterflies, Butterfly Wonderland markets itself as the largest indoor rain forest conservatory in the United States. Simply put, this place is fantastic and a fantastic value.

For $25 per person for adults (and there are on-line discounts), you get access to the beautifully maintained butterfly garden and an apiary, as well as exhibits of reptiles, invertebrates, and fish, including a no-touch pool of rays and bamboo shark. Your experience also includes "Flight of The Butterfly", a very cool 3-D movie about the Monarch Butterfly. This attraction even has a small cafe.

The butterfly garden, the facilities main attraction, is amazing, with lots of room to roam and view a kaleidoscope of butterfly colors, shapes and sizes, as well as a bee apiary. You can't tour this part of the facility and NOT smile! It may sound cliche, but this place is truly wonderful.

The inside of the exhibit is climate controlled, so even in the heat of the Arizona summer, it is still very comfortable inside.

The small Rain Forest Reptile area, as well as the Tropical Waters fish area are excellent as well. All areas of Butterfly Wonderland are staffed with knowledgeable docents ready to answer questions.

If I have one issue with this place, it is the fact that they do stress or enforce the "No Touch" policy of the butterfly exhibit near enough. While we were visiting, kids were coaxing butterflies to land on their hands and attempting to touch their wings. This is a NO-NO! Butterfly wings are made of tiny scales which are easily rubbed off with contact. When the scales come off, the butterflies can no longer fly. Just DON'T do it. We also witnessed children pulling leaves off of the foliage in full view of their parents. Really??? Having uniformed docents patrolling the viewing area would be helpful in this regard.

That being said, Butterfly Wonderland is a great opportunity to get up close and personal with some beautiful insects and other life forms. Parents, bring your children. This is an educational opportunity not to be missed. And if you're like me, once you've been there, you'll probably want to come back!

Humidity

By aaa |

Loved seeing all the different types of butterflies flying around. However, the price was high for what little you can do and the humidity was so gross and uncomfortableto stay long. I can't imagine how it will be in the Arizona summer.

Loved the flutterbies!

By Kat M |

Surreal experience with the butterflies fluttering all around you! Would have loved to sit and watch for longer. The hatching area was so neat! The 3d movie sounded corny but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would! You save some $$ on admission if you visit one of the other attractions. We did the Odysea and LOVED it! They also have a military discount.

Kids had fun!

By Michael R |

We went with our kids and grandkids. Saw the 3-D movie first then entered the large conservatory. Even the grandkids had fun for about 20-30 minutes. Good for the whole family.

Really fun!

By Kristine M |

After a quick 3-D movie they release you into the butterfly sanctuary and you’re surrounded by beautiful butterflies and moths that may even land on you and are fluttering all around. Lots of variety and educational info... be prepared for LOTS of kids.

A great outing..to relax

By Craig B |

Sometimes I wonder how I have missed so many phoenix attractions. This is a must do for adults and kids of all ages. We went on a slower day....and it seemed like the butterflies were starved for attention. I have never in total had so many land on me ro allow such an up close view. The workers seemed to really know their business and were very informative, but not at all pushy or intrusive....had that at another one many years ago. Suggest earlier in the day .... or at least that is when we went.

Its name describes very well the place

By epin |

Our family mainly children enjoyed too much this place. The butterflies are in a free space which has very good maintenance. There are beautiful and rare species. Two hours are enough for the visit.

Educational and Relaxing place to visit

By jay |

My husband and I took my 85 year old mother to see the butterflies. Everyone enjoyed it! Parking is very close and level, a very easy short walk. We bought tickets at the window - there is no senior rate. We had to wait a couple minutes to get into the theater. Plenty of seats on the main level if you don’t want to go up stairs. Movie was very informative. You move into the next room where they have a large variety of butterflies hatching-very cool. Then you go out to the main area. It is warm in here, so dress so you can peel off a layer if you want. Lots of places to sit and watch. I think there is a better chance for them to land on you if you sit still. A large variety of plants, flowers and butterflies. They had really nice music playing. My Mom commented that this is a very happy place! They have displays of creepy crawling things and some fish. Very nice gift shop.

Butterflies!!!

By 47PlymouthDriver |

Had a great day watching butterflies and enjoying the reptiles and fish. I also did the "Special Guided Tour" That made the day even better. Our guide was personable and very knowledgeable. I would highly recommend it.

What a beautiful place

By Lynda S |

We are so glad we decided to go here. We was the 3D movie to start our visit. On to the exhibit. Butterflies everywhere, you can stay as long as you want. Taking pictures and seeking out the beautiful birds.
We finally finished up and excited and found plenty of places to eat and a lot more to do.

Butterflies are everywhere

By CPatterso |

My 16 year old and I went. We enjoyed the 3D movie and it was very informative and interesting. It was also cute seeing the little kids try to catch the 3D butterflies. The cocoon room was too small for the amount of people in the room. People have no courtesy and stood in the way with their huge cameras taking pictures. I get it, they want a great picture but we all do! The butterflies hatching was amazing. We left that room before most of the others since most wouldn’t move out of the way despite me saying excuse me or trying to sneak a look. We moved into the room where the butterflies are!! That was breathtaking!! I could have stayed there for ever. Staff is so informative and patient. We went early in the am and they where active. Little stations set up for feeding. It was our highlight of the day.

Good but not great

By Devon A |

I love butterflies and always try to see butterfly houses when I can. This one is nice, but not the best I’ve seen. The rainforest animals were just as cool as the butterflies. The butterfly room is slick so be careful and gets crowded easily. They do not have the sweet water flower holders like other butterfly houses have, but still beautiful

Fascinating 🦋

By Bev B |

FACINATING🦋… from Caterpillar to 🐛BEAUTIFUL 🦋🦋butterflies in a gorgeous garden!! I LOVE coming here when I visit Arizona! I have kept my membership here for 6 years🙏🏻🙏🏻!! Docents are the BEST here!🥰

Loved it!

By Pam P |

The biosphere was awesome! They had so many varieties to watch. It was calming to sit and watch them. The other exhibits were interesting also. I highly recommend it. It is next to the aquarium and a small shopping mall.

Expensive Butterfly experience

By WNancy |

Very expensive for what is offered. Single ticket price: Adults $24 Child $16. There’s a reptile exhibit and a 3D movie in addition to the butterfly observatory. Admissions said takes about 2 1/2 hrs, but we had little ones with us and skipped the movie. We were out of there in less than 30 min and that included a bathroom stop. There are no discounts other than combining with a ticket to the aquarium next door, which we did but still cost our family of 6 adults, 1 paying child and 1 free child $400. Maybe if you lived in the area and would return often enough it would be worth it to by the annual pass. (In comparison, we have The Butterfly Place near us in MA which is $13 A, $9 C or a book of 10 for $80 for the observatory and 15 min movie.)

What an overlooked attraction!!!

By Don M |

Well, overlooked by us for the time they've been open!! We went with some visiting friends who had looked this up on the internet. We really weren't expecting much, but boy were we surprised!!! The entire venue is so well done, it's amazing! Just walking down the entry hall, you are greeted by many butterflies on the walls, then into the 3D movie about the Monarch Migration! A very well done film! The docents are very knowledgeable and can answer any question you might come up with. Watching the many different butterflies and moths emerging from from their chrysallae/chrysalluses/whatever, drying their wings for their later release in the conservatory was outstanding! Then through the doors into the rain forest, where thousands of butterflies are flitting about, landing on your shoulders, your head, your back etc. is truly like a wonderland!! We enjoyed the whole experience so much that we converted to an annual membership, bought seeds in the gift shop, and plan on attending a butterfly garden seminar next week! This is a must see if you are in the Phoenix Valley of the Sun!!! It will be a place we will insist on taking all our out of town visitors!!!

Great Place

By Wallace92804 |

Was in town visiting family with small kids. We went to Butterfly Wonderland. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Not only did the little ones have fun but the adults did too. Walking through and the butterfly’s all around was amazing. They ask you not to put your hands out for them to land on but they will still land on you. One landed on my head and another on my back. I was like a kid in a candy store.
Now I can’t wait for the butterfly place to open in 2019. We plan to get an annual pass.

Fun experience

By charris724 |

This is a great find. Short educational 3D movie before you go into the enclosed garden. Walk through the abundance of beautiful butterflies at your own pace or bring a book and sit on a bench for awhile.

Butterflies galore and music

By Susan S |

The butterfly Wonderland is beautiful and very informative. You get to watch a 3D movie and then are "released" into the space with so many butterflies. You explore as long as you want and there are other rooms with reptiles and fish. It was so nice with a musician the day we went. Staff was very friendly.

Beautiful place to visit

By Heather R |

We took an afternoon of our trip to visit. It was absolutely worth it. The butterflies were beautiful! The staff were very educated about butterflies- their life cycles & how to just leave them fly so we don't harm them. I was very impressed! Highly recommend to stop here if you have time!

Wonderful Trip With Young Children

By Traveling Gal |

My 5 and 2-year-old nieces loved it. As a butterfly fan, it was delightful. The atrium was large enough, even with the Thanksgiving vacation happening, there was plenty of space to move around.

Very Interesting!

By vegman58 |

Very Interesting Place, Great 3d intro Movie , Very nice To take Kids to see butterflies and Learn How the evolve. Just a heads up, Don’t try and pay with 100 Bill. They don’t except 100 Bills, ridiculous? Yes! Other wise for 65 dollars for 2 people was worth it. They have snack bar, bathrooms as well as souvenirs.

Amazing🦋

By Bev B |

I rejoined this SPECTACULAR ❤️🦋🦋🦋🦋Butterfly Wonderland when I renewed my Odysea 🐠🐧🌊! I live in CA but love to come over to here when I see friends & family😍. Butterflies are SO AMAZING🦋🦋❤️. You will love them landing on you!!😍

Beautiful Butterfly Wonderland Close to Scottsdale Dental Arts

By Scottsdale Dental Arts |

We stopped by Butterfly Wonderland after visiting Scottsdale Dental Arts, and it was such a relaxing way to spend the morning. The place is spotless, the staff are knowledgeable, and the butterfly habitat is stunning. Watching butterflies land on your shoulder while soft music plays is unforgettable. It’s one of those peaceful, feel-good attractions perfect for families or couples exploring Scottsdale.

A true "Wonderland" of these beautiful creatures!

By Margarete R |

When researching things to do in Scottsdale for a trip, I read about this place. It was truly amazing! They have small groups enter to first view a short movie that tells the story of the migration and life cycle of the monarchs. This was truly a highlight! Following the viewing, visitors are led into the first display area where you can see live displays of the progression of a monarchs' life. Then you enter the huge greenhouse-type enclosure, with several pathways to stroll through as you observe the many species of butterflies freely flying in this habitat. The variety is impressive, and the greenery is lush and vibrant. There is signage throughout that gives information about the different species and the many countries from which they come to this Wonderland. As this was in early December, there were festive decorations throughout. There is also a koi pond with several large, colorful fish. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. A must-see!

A Highlight of our trip

By Ct V |

Upon entering the exhibit we were given 3D glasses to watch a short 15min film on the Monarch Butterfly. Fitting, since we are from Canada, and they come to migrate very close to us. The atrium was smaller than I anticipated, but had an abundant amount of different species of butterflies and other insects and creatures. The kiddos loved it and we all had a great time. Great location on the Arizona Boardwalk!

Great Spot for a few Hours!

By andres c |

We needed a spot to hang out at before we checked in at our hotel. Butterfly Wonderland filled that void! Tickets were about $30 a piece. We walked through the exhibit and watched a 3-d video about butterflies. We then went to the conservatory where there were tons of butterflies! You aren't allowed to touch the butterflies, but I had a few land on me. Great place for kids!

Feel like a kid again

By LE R |

We visited this amazing place on a Sunday. There are lots of butterflies, and education regarding not just butterflies, but reptiles as well.
This was a magical experience watching these delicate creatures settle on flowers, plants, and people. (Against the rules to try to catch them, which is reasonable.) the 3D movie was great!
The cost is a bit much, and it gets crowded easily. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable.

Beautiful exhibit!

By misti2016 |

This isn’t something to spend hours in, but I found it to be well worth the visit! I thought I knew about the monarch migration, but I learned so much in the movie they show before you enter the exhibit! (And I’m definitely planting milkweed in the garden this year!) The staff was very friendly and eager to answer questions.

Wonderland indeed !

By Artmoe |

This caught our interest when looking online what to do at the hottest time of the year (July) in Scottsdale. You have to go and see this. It only takes a couple of hours max to get this experience but it is worth it.

Good day out

By Dsloan |

Cool visit. Stop first to see the movie as it sets the mood. Interesting to interact and be in their (butterflies) world. My 16 yr old son & my 80 yr old dad both really enjoyed it!! They also have reptiles & aquatic " animals". Groupon had tickets for $19. Worth it.

Behind the scenes tour

By JosephGS |

Took the behind the scenes tour. The most impressive part of the tour was the passion and the pride of the people we interacted with through the tour. The tour guide obviously cares about the conservatory making the experience memorable. Was very impressed with Charlie who took us behind the scenes to show us the reptiles and how he keeps the animals healthy and happy. These people know their jobs and do them very well. Their enthusiasm is contagious.

The film on the Monarch migration was very moving and the butterfly sanctuary itself was breathtaking. Overall it was a great experience. Only suggestion for the behind the scenes guided tour which was scheduled from 1-3:30 is that it probably could be just as impactful and have less downtime between exhibits if it was tightened up to only 120 minutes. But that is a very minor critique. Overall, the behind the scenes tour is well worth the price and an extraordinary experience.

Very well done for all ages.

By leo j |

The kids have a great time with all of butterflies around them and the flowers are at the correct height for them to see the butterflies at work. Many other exhibits to see.
You must park all strollers.

Beautiful place!

By savedbyhim2 |

This was truly a breathtaking experience. There is a short 3-D film about the life cycle of the monarch butterfly, then you go into the chrysalis room. There were multiple butterflies that emerged while watching. So exciting to see a new butterfly emerge. Then into the main event, the huge butterfly area. I have never seen so many butterflies, so many colors, so many sizes! It was beautiful to just stand and watch them flying everywhere! Truly breathtaking to see an amazing creation of God!

Magical!

By intrepidtraveler23 |

This is the first butterfly house I have ever been to so I have nothing to compare it with. However, I thought it was just magical! There were over 3000 butterflies in the area where you could walk around and I have never seen so many beautiful butterflies in my life, there were so many different colors and sizes and they just fly all around the room and I just watched in awe!

Fun for people of all ages!

By yourkidsteacher |

I came to check this out on a scorching hot afternoon, and I loved it. The butterflies were so beautiful and the whole place, although a bit small, was so cool. I had a great time!

Beauty of Flight

By Vicki D |

I took granddaughter to see, she had chosen! Well she’s afraid of bugs....so that’s a clue to future families that have kidos scared that even butterflies can cause a meltdown and wanting to leave so think thru before you schedule! That said, I managed to calm her a tad so I could at least enjoy them! It is a tad pricey for amount of time you can technically walk it. I was going to pass on the 15 minute Flight if the Monarch in 3D, but she insisted! I think that was the best part sitting and watching her attempting to catch them in front of her face! I suppose I’d visit again if other family came to town but would do some add on options to fill the time spent going there.

Beautiful exposure and learning experience

By ThePBR |

We visited on a Friday, first thing in the morning and avoided crowds. What a treat! Having visited butterfly sanctuaries in Florida and Minnesota, this was an interest of mine. Very well presented and a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Grand opportunity to learn more of our world. I was enthralled with the Monarch butterflies in particular (as they have declined in our area).
DO look into the combined ticket deal with the aquarium, if you are able.

Great time

By Robert B |

Lots of fun we loved seeing all of different butterflies and learning about the Monarchs and other beautiful winged creature. Although it’s expensive, it was worth it.

Gift shop bummers

By TrevorKane |

This place is wonderful. Great Movie, and displays. However, the gift shop is not cooperative at all. When there, I bought six acrylic keychains. I buy something for family members every year to turn into ornaments. From someplace special. The keychains somehow did not make it home. As the place was someplace special, I tried calling the gift shop to order more. Perfectly willing to pay for them. Even extra. First I was told I would get an email. Then twice, promised a call back. Finally the person who answered the phone said she did not know how to charge my card and mail things off. Granted, this is not a huge sale. But I am a customer, and might want to order things again. She either needs to be trained to accept credit cards over the phone, or how to mail things, or both. If I had wanted to order the over $100.00 displays, I am sure they would have been sent out right away.

butterfly bonanza

By Gayathri K |

If you love butterflies, then this place is filled you. There are butterflies everywhere you go, so many of them. You will see them in all colors, shapes and sizes. The kids will have a great time chasing after all the butterflies, sometimes they get treated to a butterfly sitting on them. You also learn a little about these beautiful creatures in the process...

This a must see while in Scottsdale Arizona. With every penny ( dollar ) 😬

By Lynn G |

So easy to access , lots of parking . All the employees were very friendly and more than happy to answer any and all questions. One of them told us that if a Butterfly lands on you .. it will bring you GOOD LUCK . A beautiful butterfly landed on my daughter’s hand and when we checked into our hotel later we got upgraded to a Suite on the top floor 🙌🏽 ( so…maybe ? )
The place was very clean and so many beautiful butterflies.
They also have another area that is reptiles and such that is included in the cost.
The Butterfly Conservatory was humid ( of course ) since it is outdoors but they let you go IN and OUT as many times as you want.
Be sure to watch the Butterfly movie before you go into the Conservatory. It was very interesting and we learned so much about butterflies. It was AMAZING!
We ate lunch at “ Johnny Rockets “ after ( 5 minute walk ) and it was really delicious!
Enjoy life and get out there and see stuff y’all 🤠

What a beautiful experience

By Denise G |

My husband and I decided to go to Butterfly Wonderland. I had heard so much about it and wanted to see for myself. Very educational! I had no idea. What a great time walking through the rainforest with butterflies flying all around you and landing on you. Great for all ages. You even get to see some of the butterflies hatch from the Crystalis. Let me tell you that's pretty amazing!

Nice but expensive

By Blimmy19 |

I went into this place with a bad attitude, mostly because of the $75 spent for three of us to get in. It was interesting and peaceful. The butterflies are everywhere, they’ll even land on you. It’s geared more towards younger kids but still interesting enough for adults.

Lots of Butterflies!

By Sandy M |

If you like butterflies, this is the place to see! Many inforative employees, butterflies everywhere. We were there right when they opened so no crowd. Enterance priced seemed a little high to me but I still enjoyed it.

interesting place

By catsmarty |

Interesting place, but not worth the money charged. It is $24.95 per person plus tax, total for 2 $54.00. You first start with a 14 minute 3D movie then you go into a room with a lot of butterflies, a couple of chickens and some other creatures. Then you can see a lot of different types of fish and amphibians. They have a gift shop and a place to buy some food. It can take 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours, depending on how long you take to look at all the creatures.

Wonderful Experience

By Nomad815523 |

Well worth the visit. My kids really enjoyed this and so did I. To see so many beautiful butterflies at once was awe inspiring. We bought the season pass so we can visit the aquarium next door as well.

THIS IS A BUTTERFLY WONDERLAND!

By Sheila W |

As a lover of photography, how can you resist butterflies? I have enjoyed several butterfly atriums in different parts of the country. This is one of the nicest that I have seen. A very large selection of butterflies and a lot of them! The rain forest setting is great, lots of twists and turns with a great selection of plants. Butterflies and sunshine go together, so AZ is a great home for this venue. I really enjoyed the 3D movie that is part of your ticket price.

Pleasantly surprised

By jfd |

This was a delightful visit to a local attraction. It is well done and there is plenty to see from a private collection, a movie, chrysalis and how they are shipped and the open air experience itself. There is a large variety of butterflies very colorful, good for small children and adults.

Peaceful place to be surrounded by butterflies.

By MontereyFoodie |

If you are unaccustomed to butterfly vivaria, go! We always go to butterfly vivaria, and while this one is smaller than butterfly world in Florida, the variety of butterflies was greater. It’s a lovely place to spend a bit less than an hour. There are also aquaria and reptiles to see.

Beautiful large butterflies, a fabulous exhibit!

By 50statestraveler |

We had visited the OdySea Aquarium earlier, had lunch, and decided to check out this exhibit. I highly recommend you get a combination ticket for both and save a little money. They are both a ton of fun. I have never been to a butterfly exhibit this large or informative. It is really well done. You start off by watching a 3-D movie giving you some history on the migration of butterflies. You learn about the stages of a butterfly and are taken into this huge butterfly area. My son had a butterfly land on his shoulder and it stayed with him half way around the enclosure. He had 2 other butterflies land on him, and I had 3 butterflies land on me. The butterflies were the largest I have ever seen and so colorful too! It was so relaxing watching them flutter along. The children really enjoyed it but had to be watched closely so they wouldn’t harm the butterflies trying to catch them. I highly recommend it.

Great little butterfly exhibit

By Daydream755529 |

Beautiful butterflies. Very nice to see and would go back again. Prices are high but overall it is worth your money. A++

Amazing place for children of all ages!

By Richard Y |

You start by entering a movie theater to watch, in 3-D the life cycle of Monarch butterfly's and the Super Monarch. What is so fun is to watch children try to reach out to touch the butterfly's as the 3-D puts them right in your seat. After the movie, it's time to head to the rainforest area to experience so many different types of butterfly's. Wear light clothing, and the butterfly's will land on you. What a wonderful experience for all ages. Butterfly Wonderland has other exhibits from honey bees to creatures of the desert. A "don't miss" when in Scottsdale

WOW!!!

By Kathy M |

What a great place for children! A lovely event but the hit was the butterfly room. LOADS of butterflies & they are easily attracted to us! LANDING ON HEADS, HANDS, SHOULDERS! Our 8 & 5 yo loved it - and so did we.

Bad customer service

By Yi Z |

Terrible customer service. Sara, the relationship manager made us waited an hour to get our membership card. She just ignored us while chatting with other staff.

Disappointed

By Kari H |

Went to this museum fully anticipating that there would be tons of butterflies flying around in their enclosed exhibit. Well we saw one butterfly in flight. We had to search and find looking under branches and leaves. The only thing that we found of interest was the 15 minute documentary on the monarchs. Frankly I would advise to not waste your money

Grandson visit on rainy day

By Kevin-Work S |

This place is cool. A little expensive but we had a blast. Besides the beautiful butterflies, there was a phenomenal aquarium that included small sharks and stingrays. Grandma and Henry also had an opportunity to feed. There was so many fun things for both children and adults. Would highly recommend.

Wonderful place to visit!

By ClareET |

Butterfly Wonderland was just that! It's very well laid out & there's so much to see! Plenty to look at for adults & children alike. The gift shop is a must!

90 minutes max

By Mike X |

Buy the ticket online or at the window outside, then go inside and get in line for the video (highly recommended). After the video, go to a room and wait to be let into the actual habitat. Then just wander around a bit and see if you can spot all the bufferflies and see if any of them land on you (unlikely). Then leave the habitat to go see some fish and reptiles. All in all, it's about 90 minutes.

Great family experience, not only butterflies

By Darcy R |

My family of 4 went to experience Butterfly Wonderland, and while the majority of your journey/tour is the butterflies, you can also see honey bees, reptiles, insets and varieties of fish. The butterfly conservatory is amazing! There are so many different species of butterflies and moths flying around, it was fun to try to find each type. My 2 boys and husband were lucky enough to be still and have either a butterfly or moth land on them. My youngest had one travel on his arm for almost our entire time throughout the conservatory! It was a great experience and offered a lot of picture perfect moments!

Unique and interesting.

By pam123254 |

We attended an event there recently. It was a unique and interesting place for an event. However, for families with several children, it is expensive. Our son, wife and three children went and noted how speedy it was. Better to go to the Botanic Garden when they have butterflies.

Surprisingly Educational

By Team Mumme |

We had found Butterly Wonderland online while searching for fun things to do in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area. What a treat this place is to visit! We thought it may be more of a "kids" place, and we are two adults. We were wrong 100%. We were greeted by a very friendly woman who sold us our tickets and chatted with us about where we were from. After entering, you see the tropical bird display and they take your picture for purchase later if you like. The 3D movie is incredibly informative, and we learned more about butterflies than we ever knew. The real magic was inside the "wonderland" for sure. Butterflies EVERYWHERE, zipping by you, landing on you, and just having a wonderful life. We thought we were finished when we left this area, but then we saw the area about the rainforest and aquarium area also. We spend about 2.5 hours overall here, and feel it is well worth the entry fee.

Better than Costa Rica

By Joan H |

Butterfly Wonderland was an amazing place to visit on my 4 day trip to Phoenix/Scottsdale area. I have been to three other similar butterfly exhibits: two in Costa Rica and another in Palm Desert, California, and this exhibit is by far the best. Be sure to pick up the colorful "butterfly chart", when you buy your tickets. This handy chart shows 42 species of butterflies you will see. Be prepared to experience a delightful hour in this amazing wonderland filled with hundreds of butterflies. The most memorable species was the Blue Morpho which I have seen in the jungles of the Yucatan and Costa Rica. Even though it was a cool day outside, it was warm and humid inside the conservatory. If you are short on time, skip the 15 minute 3D show on the life of the Monarch Butterfly. It's educational but not worth it.

Loved the whole experience

By Joanne B |

So many stages of butterfly to look at. So many beautiful specimens inside that fly around and land on you. One even flew up to my face and tasted my lips with its feet. So amazing. Great place to go

We LOVE This Place!!! The Children Are SO Amazed!

By WorldSprinter18 |

We love visiting Butterfly Wonderland when we're visiting family in Scottsdale. The kids get so excited and everyone loves the myriad of butterflies everywhere in this beautiful environment. Highly recommend!!!

Spectacular

By 57roxie13 |

If you enjoy butterfly's this is the place for you. There are so many different variety plus a reptile room and more. Very worth the money.

Really....it's not a tourist trap!

By kalamalkared |

We loved this place. We spent at least an hour with the butterflies under the big beautiful glass canopy. Many very pretty species.....you'll probably be most attracted to the blue ones. Wear a bright printed shirt, especially an Aloha shirt, and you may attract a butterfly to land on your arm, or even your head as was my great fortune.

There is also a very worthwhile amphibian/reptile gallery, and a gallery with interesting fish, rays and small sharks. Also a 14-minute 3D film of the Monarch Butterfly migration.

I would advise you to choose a cloudless day to get the best effect in the butterfly garden. Arrive coatless right when they open at 9am, and insist on going directly to see the butterflies, bypassing the movie and the cocoon gallery (you can always go back to them). The intensely kind volunteers will take you through an airlock to the butterfly garden. Soak up the beauty and tranquility all morning----or at least until the first group of squealing unsupervised children breaks the spell and drives you out. Also don't bother with the amphibian/reptile gallery until only adults are present. Linger at the dart frogs and vine snakes.

There is also an unusually nice gift shop.

Butterflies

By rand94555 |

Great place to learn about butterflies from cocoon to adult. See them being born and walk among many different types. Great place for kids and old alike.

More then butterflies

By Rick J |

Very good. Many, many butterflies to see up close and personal. More than just butterflies, there were also reptiles and amphibians to see and a coral reef. A lot of unique things to see. A very good visit.

Pretty butterflies

By Brian T |

It was enjoyable to see the many colorful butterflies. It was interesting to see the various stages in the lifecycle of a butterfly. We visited during a Friday morning to see the release of the butterflies at 11:00 am based on the website’s information. Unfortunately, the butterfly release is no longer held on Friday but now on Wednesdays.

Beautiful!!

By Ezy S |

been there more times then i can count! love taking kids of all ages to see the butterflies and they really get all excited if one lands on them and they get great photos! stunning pieces of glass art work and beautiful pond with fish surrounded with flowers and butterflies!! a mini garden of Eden! a camera is a must!! nice to see the short 3D film before too and the fish and reptile exhibits are fascinating too!

Fun experience full of learning!

By Gwen W |

What an absolutely fun place to visit! From the 3D movie to the knowledgeable staff and a few extra exhibits, this was a very fun excursion. Great for kids, families and old people too.

Beautiful butterflies!

By Kathie F |

I LOVED this place! We were searching for indoor activities, since it was raining in Phoenix for a couple of days during our stay. Because of the rain, the butterflies are not as active, and we received a discount on our entry. The plants and flowers were exquisite, and perfect for my photography. As the sun came out, the butterflies became more active. Two landed on my bright green cap, and 1 stayed for a long time. A great experience for all ages. Cafe was nice as well.

Great for teenagers!

By Michelle B |

Took my friend’s 17 year old daughter and she loved it. The short film about Monarch Butterflies is inspiring and gets you ready to experience the Butterfly room. It’s small and humid but a great way to get lost for an hour!

Wonderful experience

By burbankgirl |

We were surprised how much we enjoyed this outing. You learn so much about the history of butterflies and migration patterns of the monarchs and then to see caterpillars in there just station phase was amazing. And once we entered the actual butterfly garden and it was so peaceful he's been sitting there for hours.

Family Fun

By TravelingPartyof4 |

We loved visiting here and getting to see all the wonderful butterflies. It wasn't as great as some of the Butterfly Conservatories I've been too but it was still very enjoyable and our 18 mo old loved it!

Transported

The Butterfly wonderland is an attraction like no other, in Arizona. The 3d movie is very informative & lifelike. The next step of the exhibit is a tour and self-guided experience into the butterfly sanctuary. It is colorful & peaceful. Located in a misty, greenhouse. The butterflies are in their own habitat; which makes touring it, a transformative experience. They fly about, landing on you and allowing you to feel like you are in a tropical jungle. The "guides", are at the ready to answer any questions & to explain what you are seeing. I took my whole family & our 3yr old grand-daughter, we were all in awe. It is an experience, well worth the money.

Beautiful and relaxing visit

By Caroline L |

Lovely visit. Very relaxing with all these beautiful colors. And these amazing species, from all over the world.

Awesome

By 967marthah |

This butterfly conservatory was absolutely a wonderland! It respesents a rainforest. The temperature inside, in February, was perfect, but I can only imagine how hot and steamy it must get in warmer months!
There were so many butterflies flitting around. The displays started with a super 3-D movie on monarchs. Next, guests were ushered into a room with racks of chrysalises in various stages of development. Then into the conservatory with calm music, chirping birds and SO MANY beautiful butterflies. More beautiful than I expected.

Daughter enjoyed the visit

By stephshusband |

My wife and I took my daughter here and we enjoyed the butterflies immensely. It was neat seeing all the butterflies as well as the other exhibits. It was humid in the butterfly room, but since my family and I reside in MS, it felt like being back at home. Lol.

I would recommend this experience to anyone with or without children.

Won’t Refund If You Don’t Receive Tickets

By Chris W |

Experience tainted by Christina at the guest counter. We purchased online, but received an error. So, we purchased using another account. Unfortunately, we learned later in the day the first credit card was charged. Email still never arrived (nor in junk or spam) for the original purchase. Christina just passed the buck and said she couldn’t do anything leaving us to clean up the pieces. Unfriendly, unhelpful, and created a negative experience.

Butterflies Galore!!!

By Andrea B |

Took my granddaughter to Butterfly Wonderland and what a pleasant surprise! First we started with a 3-D story about moths turning to butterflies with wonderful special effects, then off to the conservatory to mingle with the butterflies. They are mixed with Chiluly glassworks and what a beautiful mixture. The butterflies are everywhere and their beautiful colors a true inspiration. My granddaughter loved it and so did I. Pair it with the mirror maze and you have an afternoon of fun.

A Wondeful Afternoon Visit to Butterfly Wonderland

By csmurphy55 |

We took my mothr-in-law to see the Butterfly Wonderland on a recent Tues. afternoon.....we were impressed about how big it was, as well as being staffed by educated & personable people

My wife Loved it

By Robert M |

They say this is the largest in the United States. Over 10,000 butterflies they day we went of all types. A 3D movie on the Monarch buttery fly migration is shown before the entrance. Inside are other side exhibits, gift shop, and snack bar. My wife loved it. We don't live in the Phoenix valley but purchased season passes to stop in on future visits to the area. We had our disabled daughter and butterflies would land on her. She thought it was very funny and we had an enjoyable experience for all of us.

Butterfly

By Explore641440 |

Nice well maintained facility - adequate staff, informative 3D movie intro to get visitors informed and in the 'butterfly' mode.
Lots of vegetation with - perhaps hundreds of free flying butterflys of every sort.
Self guided and can stay as long as you want. Additional viewing of lizards, snakes, birds, fish, stingray (singular) in the museum viewing area adjacent to the butterfly dome.
Enjoyable.

Average, leaning more towards disappointing…

By Savvyfox |

The butterflies were cool to see, but it was very disappointing that they did not allow you to feed the butterflies, like we’ve been able to do while visiting butterfly locations in other states. The reptile exhibit is okay. The fish exhibit is okay. Overall, for the short experience was not worth the entrance fee.

Butterfly Wonderland

By tiaemily5 |

This is really an awesome experience! Get there before 1:00 to see the New hatched Butterflies being released each day. You can easily spend a couple hours here. Don’t miss the reptiles and insect exhibit. The gift shop was fun too. My only negative of this is the cost. I don’t get why it has to be so expensive. I don’t think your normal family of 4 could afford to go. I can afford it but still think over $75 for 3 adults is a bit much.

Small but great for kids

By Kkoleary |

We bought year pass along with aquarium. It is very small and we were done in less than one hour but it is the kind of place you can bring young children on a regular basis. There are various animals there to help with plants and bugs along with butterflies. My granddaughter was able to feed the koi fish. Best time to see butterflies is early in morning when more active. Worth it if you have season pass to add this for just price of one visit.

Beautiful Butterflies and Lush Vegetation With Some Surprising Extras

By nancyandbrian2016 |

This was our first visit to Butterfly Wonderland, and we really enjoyed the experience. We went on Senior Day (although we are not quite old enough to get a special discount) and we were the first inside. We had the whole place to ourselves, so we had the utmost amazing interaction with the butterflies. Quiet, peaceful, and lush vegetation with many brilliantly colored flowers and plants. Butterflies would occasionally land on us, but most of the time they fluttered around amongst the branches or darted about the flowers. We saw grandparents or parents with very young and well-mannered children enjoying the family friendly atmosphere as the day progressed. We thought the exhibits with insects and reptiles were nicely maintained, and we also liked the fish in the adjacent aquariums that are included in the admission price. Very helpful and friendly staff that makes this an excellent activity choice for out-of-town guests. We did not find the temperature to be very hot or too humid, because we lived in the tropics for many years. This was actually mild compared to what you will find in true equatorial conditions. We found everything to be very first-class.

Wonderful surprise

By jgt |

Took grandkids there and it was an unexpected wonderful experience. They loved the conservatory with so many beautiful butterflies fluttering around them and on the greenery. Visited the Sea Odyssey too which they also loved. Both located together in a nice mall with food choices. Had no idea this would be so good to visit. Want to go again if we are in Scottsdale.

Lovely visit!

By Irene B |

The butterflies were abundant, and the place had a lot of information on butterflies and other insects. A little pricey for what's available, but I found it worthwhile. Children that were there when we were visiting were really enjoying it.

Best place in Arizona

By Maggie A |

Whenever someone comes to visit us from out of state we take them here. It such a unique experience! There is an informative video about the butterflies and before going into the large butterfly area you can see chrysalis and butterfly’s. In the main large room there are butterflies roaming that may land on you. There are many beautiful species and a lot of native and blooming plants. It is so beautiful and peaceful. I highly recommend it!!! Admission is so worth it.

Beautiful butterflies- price of entry exorbitant

By Woodys5 |

Having been to a couple butterfly exhibits in Australia, we were really looking forward to a visit to "one of the largest butterfly conservatories in North America". The visit starts with a photo which you're able to purchase, a 3D video about the journey of a butterfly and a short stop in another room to learn about the cycle of the butterfly, before entering the rainforest.

A picture card of the butterflies you may see as you wander through the rainforest helps identify them and their origin. There were volunteers on hand if any questions arose. We arrived early, before the visitor numbers grew, or the noise level increased as was the case of the kiddies who were excited about trying to get a butterfly to land on them. It was fortunate we did visit early, as the rainforest is not as spread out as I imagined so when more people flow through, it is not as spacious as you might think.

There is a cafeteria as you leave the rainforest and this leads through to another exhibit and the gift shop is near the exit. I grabbed a coffee and hot chocolates at the cafe before heading out. The young lady who served me, was really friendly, but sadly the coffee was not pleasant at all.

It was a beautiful experience having the butterflies land on us, a lovely morning visit, we spent less than two hours visiting.

I thought it was well overpriced. It is not a place I would visit more than once, purely due to the cost of entry. My husband would have preferred to spend the money elsewhere.

Nice, but expensive for what it is

By MellanzaneMadman |

This was a nice reprieve from the 100 degree afternoon in Scottsdale. Kids enjoyed the butterflies as well as the other exhibits of reptiles and fish. The 3D butterfly movie (15 minutes long) was also pretty cool.

That being said, $86 for a family of 4 seems pretty steep. The actual butterfly area is pretty small. Glad I did it once but can't see myself ever returning.

Neat place

By bmw1020 |

Butterfly Wonderland is a neat place. Not huge but large assortment of butterflys. The butterfly’s will land on you. Take some good photo’s. Procedure going in and out insures the butterfly’s can’t take a walk with you.😄

Surprisingly great

By William M |

Everything about the facility was done in a first class manner. 3D monarch butterfly movie was very informative. Atrium was loaded with butterflies. We watched a butterfly emerge and spread its wings. Reptile and big bug exhibits were in great shape.

A great place for young and old alike

By pepperwilliams |

My Grandkids loved this place. What a wonderful way to experience nature up close and personal. Great way to spend an afternoon.

Good to visit and watch the butterflies..

By Andrew W |

Not quite what hype insinuated but lots of butterfly's and plants, coy pond. Too many people for the small area...but pretty...30$ was a bit much tho...

Beautiful experience!

By Shirleenh7 |

I took Mom for Mothers Day the weekend after. It was nice. Very educational and itwas great to the life cycle then to amongst the live butterflies. We both enjoyed the whole experience.😁

So nice

By Carl C |

Butterfly Wonderland is part of the OdySea complex so arrive early so you will have time to see more than just the butterflies. When you enter you are treated to a 3D movie about Monarch butterflies. Afterwards you enter the conservatory. Here you get to walk in with the butterflies. There are so many varieties flying around you that you will be amazed. Inside there is also a large fish tank with colorful carp that you can feed. Also there is a honey bee hive which is amazing if you have never seen a active hive. Dont worry it has plexiglass sides so the bees are not free. This is an experience for the whole family. No food is sold inside but there are plenty of food places outside on the second floor.

Butterflies, snakes and sharks oh my!

We took our granddaughter to Butterfly Wonderland when she was in town. She is 10 and was very interesting I’m learning more. We watched the 3D movie and I highly suggest watching it as it is very educational about the Monarchs life. We saw cocoons next and then went into the big butterfly room. After enjoying the different butterflies we were surprised there were two more rooms. One had some small sharks and rays in a shallow pool. The other room was full of spiders, snakes, amphibians. Every employee was nice and provided some education. There is also a good stand if you get hungry.

Quick Butterfly Exhibit

By ccs124 |

We had a good time. Started with a 15 min 3D movie that you wear glasses. The butterfly garden is great with lots of different species and butterflies to see. I love butterflies so thought it was really cool. One of my kids did not like that some of them would land on you. Then saw some pretty basic reptiles in a small exhibit. Spent an 1.5 hrs there. Gave 4 stars because it is a bit expensive. Find a Groupon and go.

Movie better than expected. Butterflies up to par

By Brian J |

Visited with our kids, some friends, and my elderly parents. Everyone enjoyed the visit, with many comments about how much they liked the movie detailing Monarch migration. The butterfly room was large with a good variety of butterflies. Felt the experience was a little pricey but met expectations.

Small, and intimate.

By Celia L |

If one does not mind the humidity inside the 'garden', it's a lovely place to come up close and personal with some lovely butterflies. They fly around you, and sometimes even land on you, be prepared it may happen if they like your smell.

Lovely local attraction

By daynimo |

My family enjoyed a year long membership to the butterfly museum for my two young kids. It starts with a 15 minute movie on the migration of monarchs and then leads you to a large green house. The green house had hundreds of butterflies in a variety of species. Nice spot to go back to visit multiple times.

Love This Place!

By Raylynn2014 |

We make this a stop every time we visit our daughter in Mesa. I actually purchased a annual membership for her the last time we came. Her family loves to come when they need a quick outing or want to escape the heat.

The staff is very friendly and the garden is just beautiful. There is something magical about butterflies and the cocoon hatching area is awesome. I had no idea there were so many different types. In addition there are reptiles and even a small aquarium area. I love the gift shop and there is some really unusual items for purchase.

Worth a visit at least once!

Very cool, all ages

Family of 6-boys 7 and 9, parents, and gparents 75 years old. Loved by all! Would recommend for 1-2 hours

Great experience and learned a lot

By Kenda D |

Great experience. We saw a 3D movie about the migration of the monarchs, super interesting!!! Then got to see some of them hatching, went inside the conservatory to walk amongst them, so COOL!!!! Then we saw some reptiles and fish. Something different to do, especially on a very hot day!!!

Mixed Feelings

By VoixDuChocolat |

The butterflies that have hatched have a very nice, spacious environment (those still pupating are kept in controlled temperature and humidity to encourage hatching, and that makes for an interesting display). Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for all of the residents here. When you first enter, you see two displays containing four tropical birds each. The birds can fly within the cages, but only for a few feet in any direction. There's just not enough room for them, and that was sad to see. I did like the fact that there were also arthropods, reptiles, and some aquatic animals here. I just realized that I did not see the honey bees, though I'm sure that was an oversight on my part. Very popular with families with young children.

Butterflies and more butterflies !

By Beverly K |

I loved it!!. If I lived in Arizona I would get a membership . It is so beautiful and relaxing. The reptile tour guide was fantastic . You can tell he loves his job. He he great with the kids too. I was just in amazement the whole time.

Enjoyable

By Jackie S |

We bought this has a package deal. It is very clean and well kept. Took us about two hours. We did go on a hot day so it was very warm i. The room with the butterflies. We didn’t stay long has we would of liked but would definitely go again. Staff as very friendly. Location is easy to get to right off of 101.

This place was totally awesome! My family loves butterflies and in Michigan they're not abundant, at least not in Rochester Michigan. It was amazing to see the beautiful colored butterflies flying around in a safe environment without fear of being hurt or hit by cars. We look forward to visiting again in the near future!

Beautiful Experience

By Bill K |

We really enjoyed coming here. We were able to get discount tickets when added to our admission to the aquarium. Go here during the day as the butterflies are more active in the sunlight. Everyone of all ages seemed to be enjoying it.

Feels like a rainforest!

By ChristopherBurrows |

Beautiful butterflies abound! Many many species of butterflies (and moths) at this attraction! Be prepared to wear a single layer - it’s warm and HUMID...! And they will land on you. A lot.

Also a small reptile and bug exhibit.

If you want to visit more than once, stop by the kiosk when you leave and convert your daily passes into an annual trip - 2.5 day trips is about the same as the annual.

Awesome

By Annette H |

Stayed an extra day in town when I found this place on line. What a wonderful, beautiful experience! You start with a fantastic 3D film on the Monarch butterfly, then you go to a small room where you can see the beginnings of butterflies, then the best of all is when you walk through the door into the butterfly enclosure - how awesome it was to see all the thousands of butterflies all over, a few landed on me. the variety and colors are amazing - you will love it and if you have kids make sure to bring them. After the enclosure they have spiders, scorpions, roaches and reptiles on display. So very much worth the extra day in town!

It only an 1.5 hours of entertainment

By Audreyroberts |

The place is very small. I’ve been quite a few times so it’s obviously nice enough to go back to. The problem is it’s fairly expensive for only being about an hour to an hour and a half of entertainment. The last time my family and I went we had six kids with us for adults and we drug her feet. We got about an hour and 45 minutes there. I’ve been on two field trips to this location and every time I have at least one or two kids in my group that are too freaked out by having the butterflies land on them said they don’t even want to go in the butterfly room. So be aware that I would say 25% of the kids don’t actually want to going to see the butterflies. So it can de a wast of time and money

Beautiful butterflies but lots of people

By SunnySkies |

You are funneled through a hallway to see the flight of a monarch short 3-D movie. Movie was entertaining but prefer not to have to wait for that. The area where the butterflies are is very nice, humid, but nice. Lots and lots of butterflies. All shapes, sizes and colors. They do tend to land on you but no touching. I enjoyed it but not enough to go back unless I could do it when I thought it wouldn't be so crowded. Great setting for pictures.

It is a really beautiful place and it's nice to sit in the garden and watch them.

By J T |

There are so many beautiful butterflies. And great place to go on a date :). If you aren't interested in butterflies, then you might speed through it and it's not worth your money. I do like watching the short clip of the migration of monarchs.

Wonderful Wonderland

By Lisa L |

Took the kids to this amazing place with all of the great Butterflies .

If you really wanna spend a lot of time having a great time with the kids and actually learn something this is a really amazing spot to go to .

The guides were very knowledgeable and informative and took really great care of all of us.

Beauty at its finest!

Our family visited here not knowing what to expect. The short movie presentation was educational. The atrium with all the butterflies was so peaceful and relaxing. The building also has reptiles, fish and rain forest amphibians.

Afternoon with the Butterfly's

Great way to spend the afternoon. We stayed at the Talking Stick Resort. It is down the street from the resort.

Butterflies are worth it, but not the rest

By Cecilia |

I’m mixed on what kind of
Rating to give this place. I went in remembrance of my Angel Baby. The butterflies were beautiful and I even got a “butterfly kiss” (one landed on my shoulder ) ☺️ They also offer memory butterflies that hang from the ceiling ($150-$300). The rest of the exhibits kinda made me sad. The enclosures for the birds, fish, shark, etc. are so small. The poor shark just repeatedly circles the small oval pool. Good for educating kids, but would’ve liked to see better habitat layouts for the animals. Oh, I also sat for the movie but wasn’t told by the staff nor did I see signs about picking up the 3D glasses 🙄

Pretty!

By Kelsey B |

As someone who is obsessed with butterflies I absolutely loved it! We had family visiting with 4 kids, all under 8 and they had a blast as well! I learned a lot and they saw a lot. I would recommend this for families with kids or for a fun different date idea.

Lovely

By FranzenRN |

Visited while on Spring Break with family. Bought combo tickets to visit the aquarium and mirror maze as well. For what it's worth, very expensive in my opinion. We loved the 3d video on the butterfly and the garden is absolutely beautiful! Thing is, it is so small. On a not busy day it would be great. But this seems to be a tourist attraction and it being Spring Break, it's busy and crowded. Definitely takes away from the experience honestly. So crowded.

Tourist trap. Expensive. Not worth it.

By mh |

Save your money. Don't waste your time. Tourist trap. That's all this place is. Expensive. Not alot of butterflies. Our smaller botanical gardens in Tucson has a butterfly house and it has so much more to offer than this place.

Super butterfly experience

By Stephen H |

Great place to learn about and interact with butterflies. The 3D film about monarch butterflies is fantastic. Will visit again.

Magical with the kids

By tamar s |

I am not sure if I would go not as a family to this spot, but we enjoyed it so much and spent at least an hour or more just with the butterflies :)

Nice little butterfly space except...

By davidfromwashington |

We had a great time here, mostly, it's a nice little space with a koi pond even, however when you look at the butterflies many of them had wings in tatters, we think because so many people were trying to catch and/or handle them despite being told not to when entering the place. Lots of them were kids, of course, and kids are going to be kids, but then the parents or staff should step in and explain that handling a butterfly will damage it. A staff member did mention this when you enter, but beyond that nothing was said or done. One parent was even trying to catch a butterfly while her kids watched. It's part of an unfortunate notion among human beings that the natural world is just a playground for our entertainment. The ragged butterflies were a sad note to an otherwise beautiful experience. It's a real shame.

Pricey, but goes to good cause

By Aaron |

2 adults and 2 kids was just under $100. Seemed a little pricey, but the organization educates and helps, among various creatures, bees. Great visit for families and kids, will occupy about 1.5-2 hours.

Cute... but get the combo

By WenBurle |

All Eric Carle’s themed including the restrooms. This is appealing to all ages. They have the 3D informational video about the monarch butterfly which was awesome! The display with so many cocoons hatching right there in front of you was neat! They claim to be the biggest butterfly exhibit... I believe so because I’ve seen many and this was one of the best! I suggest to buy the combo with the aquarium visit... it was well worth it!

Expensive tourist trap

By Navigator172908 |

Visited because of the positive reviews but i was really disappointed.
For the price you see a fifteen min video, then you are shuffled into an area to see butterflies coming from their cacoon and then you are sent to the butterfly exhibit. While it was good to get some education on their life cycle and seeing the butterflies all around the price is disappointing for the experience. Only consider going if you can get a hugely discounted price.

Cute

By Courtney |

I would recommend stopping by if you’re in the area. It’s a really beautiful place and the staff is super friendly and informative. There are also some little chickens in the enclosure which were adorable.

Popular place!

By genesisfarm |

Fun visit with my daughter who wanted to visit for a few years. Staff was amazing, very knowledgeable.. Super experience in the conservatory with plants and of course, the butterflies. Patience is a virtue so I tried to wait for a butterfly go open his wings for that perfect photo opportunity, but was pushed aside by a rude customer. Not the fault of any staff... But disappointing for me.. Recommend a visit to anyone.

Heaven.....

By BellyChic |

If you are a butterfly and nature lover, this is an absolute must. I could literally sit in here for hours and hours, watching the butterflies play. There are also many other areas for you to explore, i.e., bugs, reptiles, fish, stingrays, 3D movie, etc. Definitely recommend it! And if you are a resident of Arizona, you should definitely do the annual pass. Allow at least 2 hours, though I stayed almost the whole day.

Fun tourist event for about 90 minutes

By Dana R |

Ok, first it is pricey $25 each basically... but certainly lots to see. Reptiles and some marine life to see too.

Beautiful place!

By Annbel980 |

Amazing place and very tranquil! If you are in the area you have to go check it out. Allow at least a few hours to really enjoy the butterflies.

Loved it

By Tucson_8714 |

Great experience!!!
This will be a yearly visit, the weather is always perfect.
Allow for a couple of hours to take in the beauty of it.

Cool experience

By TravelPrincess14 |

The butterfly garden is amazing to walk thru. So many butterflies & beautiful colors. You feel extra special if one decides to land on you. Just walk around & enjoy the atmosphere. The reptile area inside was small but interesting.

Really good attraction

By Vincent L |

I liked this attraction better than Odysea next door, but this was a shorter visit than the aquarium. This price was reasonable. The movie was a great introduction and in 3D it was stunning. The experience in the large room with all the butterflies flying free was wonderful.

Magical

By Tina B |

If you like flowers and butterflies this is the place to see. Great multigenerational activity easy walking unless heat and humidity bothers a medical condition (80s high humidity in tropical greenhouse). Reptile exhibit addition since we last visited a nice touch also. Chameleons changing colors and rotating eyes excited adults and kids

Fun place to visit when in Scottsdale

By LLHM |

We were looking for things to do while we were in Scottsdale and this popped up on trip advisor as a place to visit. I’m so glad we did. You get to see butterflies molting out of their cocoons and into beautiful butterflies. Next you get to wander around the conservatory while butterflies fly all around you. We really enjoyed it. It’s a little steep to get in ($25/person) but it was something different and not something you will get to see everywhere you go. I would recommend going when you are in town.

Worth every penny!

By Valasha34 |

This was our 2nd visit to Butterfly Wonderland, and it was just as exciting as the first time. We enjoyed it so much that we went back later in the day (admission lasts until closing). It is so serene and magical to be surrounded by these beautiful creatures. If you stand still long enough, a butterfly may just land on you! Not only are you introduced to all of the different types of butterflies, you can see some other animals too, ranging from emperor scorpions to stingrays. It was definitely a memory maker!

Allow plenty of time

By Glutenfreegirlo |

This place will bring the magic back, so make sure you’re not cramming it into your day. You’re going to enjoy watching a tiny little butterfly land on you, trusting that you will keep it safe from harm. Breathe and enjoy your time here. Don’t rush through. Stop for just a bit. You’ll enjoy it so much more if you relax and breathe. We did!

Release of butterflies

By Alana Tressa |

We just arrived in time for the release of butterflies. The attendant had us go right into the butterfly area so we could watch this event. It was a great experience to watch. all the children being excited along with us old adults. I have been there previously and was in awe once again of the beauty in the wonderland. I was kissed by a butterfly landing twice on my hand long enough for my daughter to take a picture which I will treasure. The attendants were so great escorting everyone in and out of the exhibit and answering any of our questions. I will look forward to going again.

Love this place. I wish it was bigger!

By dnaMidwest |

Very nice visit with my children. It’s a little pricey for the size, we pay more than $80 for 4 people, but we all love the butterfly space. The other 3 exhibitions are very small, I hope with time those get bigger!
We didn’t go to the aquarium next door. It would be nice if they had a deal for visiting both places...
Nice gift shop with tons of butterfly-related stuff.

A Must

By Raymond |

Very popular venue located at Scottsdale Boardwalk mall. Upon entering there is caged miniature toucans to view. There is a little film to watch before entering the area. First room is the butterfly cocoons and then a certain number of guest can enter the butterfly garden through double doors. Many big blue butterflies that won't sit still to take a picture. Butterflies of many different sizes, wing patterns and colors. Some will land on you. Some lucky guest got them to perch on their finger. One child scooped one up oh paper. The lush blooming garden is quite beautiful and amusing. There is also a honeybee hive exhibit.
Entertaining, fun and educational.
Many exhibits of collections of butterflies around the world.
Nice gift shop. Pleasant staff.

Wear shades of orange and you’ll have many butterflies land on you!

By MojoMT |

This was a fun experience to see the wide variety of butterflies and chrysalis! I would recommend it for all ages. We took two seniors in wheel chairs and had no problem going through the butterfly habitat.

Cute

By sdalfen |

How does this place have such phenomenal reviews?? It's just OK. It is also insanely overpriced. $30 a person for essentially a room with butterflies. This should have been $10.

Based on the price I thought this was going to be many different rooms with different ecosystems of butterflies (i.e. an Amazon room with Amazon butterflies, or a southeast Asian room with butterflies from that location), but nope! Just one room with butterflies.

Don't get me wrong, the room was very whimsical and the staff were great, but please don't spend $30 on a room.

They threw in a tiny room with some reptiles and another tiny room with some fish...the aquarium next door will cover the fish and the zoo will cover the reptiles, don't waste your money here.

Tasty, huge hot dogs!

By Cynthia S |

After enjoying the awesome Butterfly Wonderland it was lunchtime. We had delicious, huge hot dogs, chips and drinks. Their desserts are wonderful. I would go back just to have one of their hot dogs!

Not Very Engaging

By Joan C |

It is very pricey for what it is. Nice room of butterflys less than 10 minutes. Just not my cup of tea. Price should not be separate.

Not equipped for field trips and crowds

By w0rld_traveler_4_28 |

Unfortunately, we visited on a day with a large field trip which also had rain. They were not equipped for the crowds. The field trip kids made it an unenjoyable experience for. They talked loudly during the movie, we had to wait for them to all file in for the movie to start and then the actual conservatory was full with them laying no regard to anyone else. Perhaps they need to require more chaperones for that quantity of children. Same with the reptile area. It’s not Butterfly World’s daily necessArily and I am sure that without the rain sending crowds in they would have been fine. But they need to be prepared for that. For the $95 my family spent to go there, we were disappointed

Butterfly oasis

By Spinach654 |

It is so awesome to be in here with all the butterfly's. They will land on you. It is really peaceful as long as there aren't any screaming children. I would not pay to go back. It is very pricey but worth going once when family visited from out of town.

A wonderland is a great name for this attraction. Take the kids!

By mzim |

We learned a lot about the life cycle of a butterfly. They have a display of live cocoons so you can actually watch butterflies emerging. Don't miss the video. It's 3-D; so it looks like the butterflies are right over your head. Go into the rain forest room and the butterflies really will fly over your head. A few even landed on me. Added bonus is a display of a bee hive and a room of various reptiles in dispays. Pricey, but we thought it was worth it. ($22 senior)

Butterflies and More

By TwoEurophiles |

What a delightful way to spend half a day! Be prepared for humidity in the Butterfly gardens which are intermittently misted to keep plants and butterflies healthy and happy. Adult admission is $29 but you can get a senior discount if over 65 that saves you $5. The guides in the emergence area give you a great lecture on the moths and butterflies that are "gestating" as pupas or chrysalises and you can watch them emerging and drying off, getting ready to fly. Fascinating and the colors are incredible. Check out the camouflaged blue morphas in particular. There are many art installations and odd trivia facts scattered about, even in the bathrooms. Equally interesting and intriguing are the exhibits of exotic insects and reptiles so please allow time for them as well. There is a cafe inside so you don't have to cut your visit short when the kids get hungry. Really a great visit and education is a fun bonus!

OK but Overpriced

By dkrstec |

We thought our grandson ( age 3 yrs) would really enjoy this, but we were wrong LOL. First you watch a movie, then go into the very humid butterfly world, then must exit through the giftshop to leave :( Not good when you have small kids.

Great experience but not a good place to avoid covid

By FlowersBurke |

This experience was great. The butterfly breeding area was one of the most fascinating things we had ever seen. Who knew that you can breed butterflies. We watched some that were emerging. The butterfly area where they were flying around was so cool and very pretty. Lots of butterflies everywhere and well worth your time.

It was a lot smaller than the pictures on the internet portray. And there didn't seem to be a limit on the number of people who could enter at any point in time so we had a bit of a bad time navigating around people. No one was monitoring the attendees for social distancing and most people there didn't seem to care. Most people were wearing masks but not following the directional arrows or staying away from others. The floor arrows for which direction to go were not easy to follow given the layout of the place.

We didn't watch the 17 minute movie. And they take those cheesy pictures of everyone when you enter and then try to get you to buy them in the "butterfly shop" that you have to walk through to get out - we didn't do that either and were not happy to be "shamed" by the staff. We highly recommend this place, especially if you can get a Groupon, but would recommend going during the "off hours" to avoid covid.

super fun!

By Jamie M |

so great! butterflies were amazing. truly a wonderful experience here. highly recommend for families and friends in AZ

Our second time, so worth it!

By Dave |

I find this place totally fascinating. We only went to the butterfly portion and skipped the aquarium. You start off by seeing a 3D movie about the migration of monarch butterflies. (If this movie does not make you want to go home and plant a butterfly bush, you have no soul.) After the movie, you make your way in to a room where you can watch butterflies “hatching” from their cocoons. Marvelous! The best part is obviously when they turn you loose in the main arena where there are large plants, trees, pathways, flowers, and thousands of butterflies. Little kids, teenagers, seniors and even a middle age guy like me can take it all in and appreciate everything.

We took at least a hundred pictures. I highly recommend using the slow-mo video on your iPhone! We spent about 3 hours here. I could have stayed longer, but my teenagers were getting hangry. I think our admission for four of us was $98. It was my second visit, and totally worth it.

Beautiful butterflies

By beachnboat67 |

What a wonderful place to visit. Beautiful butterflies flying all over. Beautiful flowers too. Be sure to wear a colorful top-the butterflies are attracted to color. Don’t be alarmed if they land on you! I could stay here all day! So many varieties!!

Beautiful afternoon outing for the whole family

By Bilbo3D |

My sister and brother-in-law treated me to a visit to Butterfly Wonderland while I was visiting them. Our group consisted of 3 adults and 2 children, 5 and 3. We all had a wonderful time.

We had some extra entertainment as it was the Hungry Hungry Caterpillar's birthday when we visited so there were signs, parts of the story, and interactive activities throughout the building.

They take a group picture on a green screen when you first enter. Our little guys don't like things like this so we skipped it but I believe the photo is available for purchase after your visit.

There is a small introduction by a staff member and then a short 3D movie. This was my first 3D movie and it couldn't have been better. I literally said WOW outloud several times. I just couldn't help it, it was amazing. The kids were reaching out trying to touch the butterflies as they appear to be right in front of you. The movie is very informative and I learned quite a lot about Monarch butterflies.

Next is a small room where you can see the many different butterfly chrysalis and several types of moth cocoons. If any are emerging, you can watch and the new butterflies are here waiting to move into the large conservatory room.

Once in the large room be prepared to be in awe. As a photographer I would also note to fellow photographers to have the lens you want on before entering. I had my zoom lens on and protected my other lenses in a waterproof bag. The room is very humid and while there was no standing water or dripping water there are definitely a few places where you can accidentally wander into misting spray. It is not overbearingly hot but it is certainly best to have layers on so that you can stay comfortable. This is from someone that is very heat sensitive and I was able to stay in this room for close to an hour without a problem.

The large room has SO many different plants, a waterfall and koi pond in the middle, a couple of chickens (much to the surprised delight of the kids), and over 3,000 butterflies. If you want to see one of every species all it takes is patience and wandering the path a couple of times. Along one wall there is a "secret" alcove that houses a queen bee and "see-through" hive so that you can see the honeycomb being built. Very cool and educational.

Once you leave the butterfly room, there are small exhibits of desert creatures such as scorpions and spiders, a smallish aquarium with lots of active rays and a hallway of lizards, snakes, frogs, and other small creatures.

Before leaving, we stopped by the cafe to redeem our coupon for drinks. We were delighted with the colorful cups that were given to us along with sturdy lids and straws. I was able to pack mine in my luggage and it went through the airport and home without a scratch.

They also have coin machines both in the front lobby by the gift shop and the cafe. There is a butterfly on one side and your choice of one of 4 different animals on the other. We let the kids get one of these and skipped the gift shop. I did wander through the gift shop on our way out and there were lots of options from stuffed animals to t-shirts to jewelry.

I will certainly keep this on my list of great options when in the Phoenix area.

Loved this place!

By Sloane H |

This is a fabulous place to bring friends and family alike! If you are afraid of butterflies this place is not for you. But the butterflies are gentle they would never harm you and you learn so much from beginning to end of a life of a butterfly. Enjoy the film at the very beginning that explains the process of a butterfly. It is fascinating! Bring your grandkids out of town guests or whoever you like or just go by yourself you won't be sorry!

So fun to see a huge variety of butterflies floating around!

By Beth K |

Really enjoyable and a great way to spend an hour or so! Be sure to take the time to watch the 3D movie prior to entering the butterfly house to learn about the migration of the monarch butterflies.

Inside the butterfly enclosure, there are plenty of nooks and crannies to look for butterflies that are everywhere! The range of colors is truly amazing as well. Be sure to look for the butterfly feeding stations that are tucked away. Very relaxing way to spend an hour or so in a nice and relaxing environment.

Peaceful Butterfly experience.

By lost_bobcat |

Great 14 minute film, followed by a huge solarium with hundreds of butterflys they have imported from all over. Very warm inside. There is another museum with cool stuff like sharks, reptiles that is worth seeing as well, that and a gift shop for $25 per adult, about an hour or so. There are other experiences for more addons that we did not try out. There is a area with shops and food/restaurants like an outdoor mall in a loop for two floors. Hard to get a good Uber pickup place. Tell the driver where to pick you up

Winter visit

By Phoenix_ArizonaJulie |

I was expecting there to be some decorations in the main area where the butterflies were but there were not. The room is the same year round I assume. It is warm so you do not want to be wearing heavy sweaters and jackets. The butterflies were quite active in the daytime. There was a short 3D movie which was nice and the butterlies seemed to come off the screen and into the audience which was a nice touch.

Expensive but worth a single visit

By Richard L |

This is a great display but at $25 per adult it is pricey. We have gone twice but not sure we’d go again.

Popular Location

By Fin Y |

We arrived early and were rewarded with less crowding. There were two butterflies breaking out of their chrysalis's which we were able to watch for over 15 minutes. Patience is needed in the Conservatory, most patrons walk thru/around relatively quickly. But you will be rewarded if you take your time, stay still in different locations and observe the many butterflies "hidden" in the foliage right before your eyes. We sat on the benches at the far end for a while and found that many butterflies will ignore you and land on you. Great pictures.

Decent but not a must visit place in Scottsdale

By Monica C |

We came to visit on the recommendation of family while visiting Scottsdale with our daughters (ages 5 & 3). The actual butterfly area is smaller than we expected and we did not see as many butterflies as we thought we would. To be fair, we recently went to the Tennessee aquarium that also has a butterfly room and in that facility, the staff assist the visitors with holding butterflies and it is a smaller room so there is less area to search for the butterflies. We enjoyed seeing the chickens and bees as well. The aquarium and reptile areas were lack luster.

Great time with kids!

By Bethany |

The Butterfly Wonderland was absolutely amazing! The 3D show was amazing! They had an observatory that you walked in with 2,000-3,000 butterflies! They would just land on people. It was a great time and definitely something worth seeing!

Butterfly

By bookworm8 |

The butterfly exhibit was nice but pricey. The workers were friendly. The 3D film was good. It’s in a complex with a very good aquarium and other kid friendly activities. The complex offers activities where you can escape the elements...like August heat.

Must see experience for every family

By pepperwilliams |

Remarkable place to take your children or grandchildren. What an experience to understand the majesty of life.

The kids loved it!

By DayCaptain |

We took our daughter and her two young children to see the butterflies on their last visit. I have been to many butterfly houses and was very impressed by this one. There are very informative and attentive staff at the entrance, inside and at the exit. The garden inside was lush and there were lots of butterflies. The butterflies will land on people but the rules are very strict about not touching or picking them up, which makes total sense for such delicate creatures. There is a short movie before you go in. There is even a small pond with fish, and the staff provide food for guests to feed them. There are even tiny little quail rurnning around, sensibly out of the way of human feet. All in all a short but fun experience for all.

Butterflies!!!

By rdsm77 |

We had gotten the combo ticket with OdySea which was slightly cheaper, but still pricey. The Butterfly Wonderland was pretty cool though. They had everyone watch a movie first about monarch butterflies with 3D glasses which annoyed me at first but it actually was a good movie. Very informative about how they migrate.

Then you get to go in and see the butterflies which was amazing. Many different colors and sizes of butterflies all over. Fun to just sit and watch them flutter about. There were more people in there than I expected. They didn’t have anyone checking you for stray butterflies when you left like they did when I went to a similar butterfly exhibit in Tucson which was surprising.

A must stop for the whole family.

By Bill G |

What a surprise and very enjoyable experience at the butterfly exhibit. I expected to see some butterflies and maybe see some interesting displays. What I didn't expect was to be surrounded by 100's of butterflies and moths that were close enough to touch (but do not do that, it is not healthy for the insects). We arrived around noon, watched a film in the auditorium, about 12 minutes) then went into the garden area where they had a scheduled release of the butterflies that had hatched that day. We spent over 90 minutes in the exhibit and will return again.

Opportunity to commune with the butterflies

By origsnoopy1 |

Excellent educational opportunity for the young and old alike. It is very informative and the docents are very knowledgable. The exhibit is well controlled to prevent the loss of any of the species. You can roam through the indoor garden at will and when the butterflies are active get some great photos. If you remain still enough they will land on you. The 3D film gives a good overview of the migration of the species. Overall, a great place to spend a few hours.

Beautiful Butterflies and More

By Peggy S |

Although I would not recommend as a couple without children/grandchildren going on a Saturday morning, this attraction was wonderful. It was the only time we had, and we are glad that we didn’t miss it on our rare trip to the Phoenix area. The butterflies were amazing. We also saw a good collection of reptiles in an adjoining display area. Nice way to spend a couple of hours.

Fascinating

By Carl J |

What a great place! My son and I visited last week during school break and loved the animals! Some very unusual specimens in the insect collections and the aquarium, and the conservatory was surprisingly large and full of plantings and butterflies... The space could have used even more artworks, and chickens!

Fascinating place to visit!

By allisonduq |

We wanted something interesting to do when we had guests in town that would be out of the ordinary, so we checked out Butterfly Wonderland. It's an amazing experience! It's a bit pricey, but we felt it was well worth it to be able to spend time inside the gigantic butterfly sanctuary. I had no idea there are so many types of butterflies in Arizona and it was so fun to see them up close to appreciate how beautiful they all are. Some butterflies land on you and take a ride around on your shoulder or back while you wander around. We took over 100 pictures to share with friends to show the incredible variety of butterflies and moths. We definitely recommend this for an interesting and educational experience.

Return to Wonderland

By Michael K |

We came here a few years ago, and the kids have been talking about it ever since! The return trip was worth it! Interact with the many species of butterflies in their natural environment. Take pictures, relax. Plan for at least a few hours, and wear brightly colored clothing (the butterflies think you’re a flower and will land on you. Good times for all ages!

Butterfly Immersion

By gilbertgranny |

Obviously If you like butterflies you will want to go here. There are so many types of butterflies in every color you can imagine. Small ones, very large ones; it seems as if they have every butterfly in the world there. It’s a very unique and beautiful experience to be among all of the butterflies in a natural type habitat

Probably not worth the money they charge.

By Bsctl |

Was a fine experience but in my opinion way overpriced. Could actually experience the entire area in less than 30 min. I've been in other butterfly experiences before and they all have had more butterflies and more 'interaction'. The aquarium was nice but the bees and spiders were a joke. Our guests enjoyed but think they were being kind.
Highlight might have been the 3D movie and not the actual butterfly room.

Fun

By Olivia F |

It was nice seeing the different types of butterflies. There is so many and they land on your head but they move fast! So cameras maya not get them but it’s relaxing.

WHat fun!

By Julie H |

The staff were so informative and the butterflies So beautiful. My daughter and I had so much fun exploring the habitat and even had butterflies land on us!

Beautiful Place

By Pamela B |

Most beautiful butterfly wonderland!! So many different kinds of butterflies. Definitely go see the 3D movie!!

It’s so Zen!

By Ellee |

This place is tiny but absolutely magical. I visited with my sister and nephew and we all loved it. You have to be very gentle because butterflies might land on you, so no running, rushing, etc. we really enjoyed our visit!

Engaging journey through the life of a butterfly!

By Marlene B |

From the 3D movie with butterflies up close, to the live cocoon transformation showcase, excitement builds to be entranced by the magnificent butterfly frenzy surrounded by lush plants, stunning flowers & a water feature with Koi fish. So many beautiful vibrant coloured species to behold, above & below you, and if your 'extra lucky' you may have one land on you, or several! Enjoyed the whole experience on a rainy day, interestingly enough when the sun came out for all of 5 minutes it seemed the butterfly population tripled in flight! A joyful experience for young & old!

amazing colors

By Gail B |

The variety of butterflies is amazing. One is able to see many butterflies of astonishing color pattern and size. The only drawbacks are the large crowd permitted into the enclosure at one time and the heavy heat and humidity. Notwithstanding, the wonderland is worth the visit. With respect to the associated display of snakes, lizards etc., while the creatures were very interesting, I was rather surprised and upset by the size of enclosures that restricted especially the boas.

Beautiful Butterflies!!

By EdPlateau |

Butterflies and area were beautiful! They were everywhere! Not too hot or humid either, like other butterfly experiences we have been to.

3D movie beforehand was informative and nice. And the reptile and aquarium exhibits were a nice addition after the butterflies.

The only downside was the price. Yikes! A bit on the steep side.

A truly wonderful Wonderland.

By GinaMarcon |

We loved, loved, loved this place. The 3D movie on the Monarch Butterfly was incredible. Had we had more time, we would have stayed and watched it a second time. The butterfly house was beautiful. The plants, the butterflies and the two little hens clucking about were wonderful to experience. Don't miss visiting this location. It is worth the cost of admission.

Butterfly Wonderland

By scshecar3 |

Before you enter, there is an informational film to watch. It is optional, but recommended. Then you enter a tropical paradise. There are 100s of butterflies flying around. They are vatioua colots and sizes.
They are everywhere - on the plants, in the rafters, on peoples hair and shirts, etc. It is easy to spend 90 minutes to 2 hours experiencing this exhibit.

LOVED IT HERE

By savannah w |

Went to butterfly wonderland and I had the best customer service I came from all the way from france and Evelyn had helped me at the window and was really friendly she told me the directions and explained every exhibit , after the butterflies i went and had wanted to buy something and evelyn was there helping me again she was the sweetest thing ever, i loved the butterflies they were very active it was the most magical thing ever thankyou butterfly wonderland for the best experience

Best experience

By Christine D |

I love this place . The 3D movie is fascinating and so interesting.
Then the interaction with thousands of butterflies is so fun. If you stand or sit still they land all over you. My granddaughter had one on her hand and it stayed as we walked around. Finally we asked for help and she gently helped it go on it's way. Pictures are great to remember such a fun event. I have visited these exhibits in other states. But Scottsdale, AZ is the best!

Educational and fun

By Teresa M |

The 3-D movie on the life of a monarch butterfly was very informative. Loved experiencing the butterflies in the observatory. Fun afternoon for the price.

Peaceful and Informative

By ankh1 |

A nice place to visit with your grandkids or family but it is expensive. Our admission for a combo ticket along with OdySea was about $51 each with a senior discount. Had to hit the IRA for that one. Seriously, the initial 3D movie on the journey of the Monarch butterfly was great. The butterfly room put you into the humid tropics for a nice quick stroll among the flying beauties. Spiders, scorpions and a few reptiles were safely quartered in adjacent rooms. It was not crowded when we visited on October 11 but I imagine it can be in the busy months.

Pretty awesome experience

By Jcmcop |

I love butterfly gardens. They are an incredible experience if you've never experienced one before. I've been to one in Key West, FL, and this one. Both were exceptional. Worth the price of entry. Very unique experience.

Beautiful Place

By Kyle E |

Great way to spend a few hours. The Greenhouse the holds the butterflies is also well air conditioned and shaded too so don’t mind the heat.

Yoga in the butterfly exhibit Is definitely worth it!! I would try it out at least once the butterflies es are so pretty

Very nice place to know more about butterflies. They have a cool movie play in the beginning and it teaches a lot, we loved it!

By Bev B |

I find this Museum FASCINATING! I learn so much from the Docents🦋🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️! I live in So Cal & ALWAYS renew my membership here when I come into town to visit friends & family🦋🙏🏻🙏🏻😍!!

NOT WORTH IT

By Wayne640 |

I spent almost $140 to get 5 people in to see this exhibit. It was so cheesy. Literally in about 15 minutes we were done, not even close to what we imagined it would be. Yes butterflies, not worth the $$. The aquarium might be better

A great place to visit

By Lillian D |

Great opportunities for photos. I big blue butterfly landed on me 3 times and I was able to get closeup photos.

Magical and mesmerizing

By Rachel C |

This was my mom and I’s second time here and honestly it doesn’t get old! It’s just as magical and fun as it was the first time. With Covid it seems they aren’t showing their monarch migration video in the theatre but we were OK with that. This meant we could go right into the butterfly garden. It’s a little humid in there especially with a mask, but you quickly forget when you get to see all the beautiful butterflies fluttering around. It was great to go a weekday when there were less people. I wouldn’t hate if this was something we did every time I visited. It’s awesome if you’re a nature lover!

Watch a butterfly emerge from its chrysalis

By Senesa |

Start by watching a 3D movie about the Monarch butterfly. Even if you think you know about butterflies, you will learn something. The movie is well done. Next you will go into a small room with three glass windows, containing butterfly chrysalis, from many different butterflies. You will see butterflies in different stages of emergence and there is a guide to answer all of your questions. Now move into the butterfly garden. Your eyes can't stop moving because of all of the different butterflies flying around. It is fabulous. Once your eyes can move no more, move to the next exhibit of lizards and snakes. I spend about an hour and a half here. You must be mindful not to step on or touch the butterflies. This is a good spot for all ages.

So many shrieking kids.. sorry

By A. D. |

I like kids and I love butterflies.. but maybe an all-adult evening would be a good idea for this venue. I got really depressed after seeing more than 1 kid rip the wings or legs off of butterflies they had captured. Running, shrieking kids just ruin the atmosphere.
Could think of half a dozen more interesting things to do that doesn't involve so much shrieking.

Wonderful

By JacqueJ-C |

I love butterflies and this was heaven. The monarch video alone at the beginning of the exhibit is worth the visit. Highly recommend.

Great experience for young and elderly

By The_Plain_Truth_2017 |

Outstanding activity for young and seniors! The smiles that are created are contagious. Seeing the elderly mix and mingle with young children is worth the price of admission alone!! The showstoppers are the butterflies! Seeing is believing! Worth the trip to Scottsdale to see. Two thumbs up!!!

View

By poods2 |

Nice very hot in there. Nice colors. Dont expect a strip joint. Anal but ok for 30 minutes. Good venue.

Pretty But Pricy

By Searchin4Vacays |

The facility is large and clean! The 3D movie is wonderful. It’s not only informative but beautifully done as well. The stage where you see the chrysalis and “hatching” is really interesting but gets crowded.

The inside of the butterfly greenhouse is clean and easy to maneuver as well as ADA friendly. It was fun watching the butterflies eat fruits and flutter about but I was disappointed in the number of butterflies around us. There didn’t seem to be too many compared to other places I’ve been and Butterfly Wonderland was expensive.

Not just butterflies on show.

By Lukasz B |

Lots of colourful butterflies on display! Before entering the butterfly enclosure we were directed to watch a 3D documentary about butterflies (around 10-15mins)... Was great to see this prior to entering.

Besides the butterflies on show there is also a small area with aquariums with some fish on showcase as well as a tarantula display (wow they are massive).

Great for people of all ages, but bring some water and dress light as inside the butterfly cage can get a bit hot and humid for some.

Amazing display of butterflies

By charris724 |

I truely enjoyed this museum, however, it was quite pricey for the amount of time you spend there. It is a nice place to go and relax in the enclosed butterfly room. Bring a book and sit on a bench... the multicolor butterflies will land on you randomly. Nice place to take someone unable to navigate large museums.

Imported Butterflies

By Oliver P |

There are few places where you can visit live butterflies. The video intro talks about the monarch... ironic that few if any monarch butterflies are found in the conservatory. My biggest concern is that there is no effort at Butterfly wonderland to preserve or propagate the species. All of the butterfly chrysalis are shipped in. So they emerge... fly around... and effectively die without laying a single egg. NO caterpillars can be found which begs the question of why they call it a conservatory. Still... if you can stomach the high ticket cost its a unique experience.

Butterfly Wonderland really is a wonderland

By GerryC1234 |

Butterfly Wonderland is a great place of children -- and adults. Well- organized in a larger, netted greenhouse of sorts, there is a great variety of butterflies living in close-to-natural environments. Butterflies aren't exactly tame -- they don't go for being petted -- but the environment is so welcoming to them that they'll sit patiently on a leaf or bit of fruit while humans examine them closely. For a surprise treat, try chewing some sugared chewing gum before entering the wonderland. The butterflies will go for the sweetness and may land on your face -- and may stay a while. Great fun -- we'll be back.

Arizona Trip

By B R |

This is a very good experience. One of the ladies in our group loves butterflies, this was right up her alley! So glad about the expansion area.

Lovely

By rebeccak215 |

This was a spur of the moment trip and the kids loved it. The butterfly enclosure is great! A bunch of them just land all over you randomly...also seeing them right as they came out was amazing! Would go back if we were closer.

amazing place

By pkandinov |

if you love nature and especially butterflies you will love this place.Butterflies will be all over you and if you going with kids they will not want to leave this place. This place is not that big so you will be able to visit this and other attractions that are next to it in one day.Well worth the trip.

Beautiful Exhibit

By Bev B |

We LOVE Butterflies & we LOVE that Eric Carle’s Very Hungry Caterpillar is celebrating the 50th Anniversary of his book. So FANTASTIC!! I LOVED seeing this. You can do a Combo ticket Aquarium/ Butterfly Wonderland for ADULT $59.95.. a SAVINGS!! I just so happened to have bought the Aquarium Annual Pass already. There is Senior & Military discounts.

Repeat visit - just as magical as before

By vetism |

We last visited Butterfly Wonderland two years ago, when there were just the Butterfly Wonderland and Mirror Maze next door, and none of the other OdySea attractions. Just like last time, we had a great time here seeing and interacting with these incredibly amazing creatures. I would say amongst all of the now available OdySea attractions, the Butterfly Wonderland is the most nature oriented and least "commercial" one to visit. This would be the one we would recommend the most for families visiting the OdySea complex.

Nice exhibit but way overpriced.

By RobbIt1818 |

I went with my elderly mom and my wife. We enjoyed the visit but wouldn’t go again unless there’s a promo.

Interesting

By Viajera |

Beautiful and big butterflies. Wish I had more time. Don't skip the video, it's very interesting. Kind staff.

Silence is golden

By Sharzita |

The most peaceful part of our vacation. What a pristine environment to watch nature at its finest. Our children were so happy to feel the butterfly flutters!

Mesmerized

By sandyk8102018 |

Have been to other butterfly conservatories but this was the one that I stayed at the longest. Pricey, i suppose, but they have beautiful facilities and educational things here. Took a ton of photos. Half of them blurry as I'm a terrible photographer and just used my cell. but glorious just the same

They Named This Attraction Well

By Tom D |

Butterfly Wonderland is named right. It's kind of wonderful walking through the space fashioned for the hundreds (thousands?) of butterflies winging through and perching on the pretty vegetation created for them. (Careful that you don't step on one of these beautiful creatures when they land on the walkways.) Water features and small pools help re-create a misty habitat. Really, you just might find yourself marveling at the colorful but fragile nature of the several butterfly species found here. You can also enjoy exhibits of bees and scorpions and tarantulas and other interesting insects we all probably take too much for granted. A snack bar and gift shop round out your experience. It's worth the visit, even if admission is a bit more than you'd probably want to pay. I live in nearby Mesa, and I'm glad BW is just down the road. Butterfly Wonderland is enjoyable enough for multiple visits.

It's a butterfly spot

By SomeNYCGuy |

This seems like a small add-on side exhibit. The butterfly area is hot and humid like you would expect, but I just found it unbearable in an Arizona hot day. I can't fault the place for that, as butterfly habitats are always hot and humid.

The people were friendly and informative, and there were plenty of butterflies. They seemed to be more active, flying around, than other such places I've visited. I think other places tend to leave out more fruit, so that they land more. That's just a guess, as again these are animals with a mind of their own.

We enjoyed the small bug exhibit and reptile exhibit as much as the butterflies, and in a cooler environment. Fairly interesting. If you loved butterflies I would give it 4 stars.

Family Fun!

By Susan C |

This is a great family place to visit, for those of all ages--baby through senior. We come often. You begin with a 3D movie of the life cycle of a monarch butterfly, proceed to the Emergent Room (where we saw two butterflies hatch out of their chrysalids yesterday!!!!), and then enter the Conservatory full of thousands of butterflies flying around. After you are wowed by all of this, there is a reptile section, bug section, and an aquarium room--something of interest for everyone. Don't miss this place!

Well worth it!

By Experiencesb4things |

See butterflies hatch from chrysalis hourly. Then go into conservatory where there are 1,000’s flying about. They will give you a guide and you can identify them while there. We were lucky and the Butterfly Lady was there which was an added experience. It’s a bit pricey but a cool experience and so much better than other butterfly conservatories I have visited. I would visit again. One caveat for parents with children, you exit through the gift shop.

A must see experience

By LilacLadie |

Butterfly Wonderland is a great place for all ages. Starting with very educational and informative short film about the butterflies and their migration then moving on to experiencing the butterflies up close. Be sure to wear bright colored clothes to attract the butterflies to you. Sit still and quiet for a few minutes and you will have butterflies landing on your shoulders, arms, head and hands. It is a great experience.

Beautiful place to visit.

By Scott B |

We visited Butterfly Wonderland in tandem with Odysea. You can spend the whole day at this compound. The Butterfly Wonderland was beautiful and interesting and included bugs and lizards, as well. An excellent place for children to learn about all of these creatures.

Beautiful and educational exhibits

By Pissed Off Reviewer |

They say that they have more than 10,000 different types of butterflies in the main exhibit which is climate controlled and a little bit too warm for my taste. However, there were thousands of butterflies flying around among the flowers and the spectacle was beautiful.

Nice place but WAY overpriced

By Nicole M |

This place was a wonderful spot with a lot of education about butterflies, interactive sanctuaries and other attractions but for $36 it is way over priced and not worth the $. I know if you Buddle and do passes there are ways to get the price down but for an out of tower looking for day activities in between our “have to” list I don’t find it worth the money. We had a great time and enjoyed it, just don’t think it is priced accordingly.

Butterfly Fun

By Ada |

I’m not a huge fan of butterflies but I decided to come here with my best friend since she was in town and we needed to do some “touristy things”. They offered military discount which was nice! We went in and watched a 3D short film about the life cycle of a bitterly before we headed into the actual habitat which is known to be the biggest one in the country! It was slightly humid but manageable. The plants and butterflies were all so pretty. They also had other sea creatures to view in the inside so there was a little bit of everything.

Butterflies are magical

By yitz10 |

The 3D film was excellent. Staff did a good job explaining about the butterflies. It's lovely just strolling around with the butterflies flying all around you. Nice place to take kids.
It was quite expensive. $32 per person (including fees) to get in.

If you love butterflies, I guess

By Triple Z |

Took the kids ages 5 and 9. Not much to see after standing out in the butterfly area. Seems too expensive for what you get. Typical tourist trap.

More than expected

By AmeliaTexas |

Such a lovely and peaceful place to visit and just be able to sit with so many different butterflies. I initially thought it would be boring but found out otherwise. Such a nice place to visit.

Very over priced

By marianng |

Only go if you can find a special price or coupon. I have been to the butterfly house in Columbus Ohio and one in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. They were so much nicer. On this visit in Scottsdale, if they have as many butterflies as they state, they must be counting chrysalis. Very few large butterflies inside the vegetation. Lots of small beige and brown. Small koi pond. Cute butterfly bench to sit on. The introductory movie was a big nothing. I have seen more about monarchs on tv. So if money is no object it is ok. I found it to be too pricey. We did not buy the photo they took as it was super expensive.

Lovely Attraction

By Mike-n-Inga |

My wife and I really did not know what to expect when we visited this attraction. First: it is indoors, so offers a welcome break from mid-summer heat. Second: it has welcome hours (we visited late afternoon on a Sunday).
You start off with an educational and entertaining movie about Monarch butterflies and their life-cycle. They really are a wonder and have a fascinating story for young and old alike. You follow this up with a visit to a room where the butterflies emerge from their cocoons (go earlier in the day to see more activity, later afternoon is too late).
This is followed by the true wonder of the facility: the indoors butterfly sanctuary. My wife and I spent nearly two hours hunting through the foliage, each topping the other with the amazing pictures and movies we made capturing the various butterflies we found! We have many great pictures which we have shown to friends and relatives already and all are in awe. It's a great adventure and done at a leisurely pace away from the heat of the desert.
Finally, we were surprised by the exhibits outside the sanctuary. We were awarded with dozens more pictures of various creepy critters!
This place is a must-see, especially for parents looking for something educational and less hectic than some standard entertainment faire...

A great place to visit.

By Tammy S |

There were so many beautiful butterflies to see. We went to check this out on a very very hot afternoon in September and really loved it Not only did they have butterflies but they had a small are inside that had fish and reptiles. The also had a few birds at the entrance when you came inside.

So pretty, great for kids of all ages

By Jessica S |

Butterflies everywhere! I’ve been to other butterfly houses, and this one is by far the best. My four year old loved it. At first glance, the butterfly house seems a bit small (although it is very pretty), but my little girl was entertained for about 45 minutes, then we spent time watching the 3d butterfly movie and looking at the fish and reptile exhibits. My teenager also really enjoyed it. Go right when it opens, it’s when the butterflies are the most active.

Expensive experience

By bbcaao |

Very expensive experience:$200 for one child, two military and two adults. Very humid area to see the butterflies. You need to step out and back in to keep from overheating. Educational video and displays were nice. Additional displays outside of the butterfly building were interesting. We spent about two hours total. I appreciated the various butterflies and thought they were beautiful but I would not spend that kind of money again.

Beautiful butterflies

By tscheblo |

Sunday afternoon was a busy time to experience Butterly Wonderland. Maybe it would be better/less busy to visit on a weekday. Be sure to pick up the two sided card identifying the butterflies found in the conservatory. I enjoyed the short 3D movie and would recommend viewing it before going into the rainforest. Many people skipped the movie but it really helped my level of appreciation for these beautiful creatures. Take your time to soak in the beauty of flowering plants and butterflies flying all around. We spent close to 1.5 hours for the full experience.

Nice variety of butterflies

By SharonB231 |

This is a very nice butterfly exhibit with a large variety of butterflies. They also have a few reptiles and amphibians here. Your visit starts with a short movie then you see the emerging butterfly area. Your last stop is the actual butterfly exhibit where you can stay as long as you like. Your exit is of course through the gift shop. This is a well planned and organized butterfly exhibit!

Little kids will love this adventure.

By 01funtraveler |

Small kids and their patents or grandparents along with anyone else will love touring this butterfly greenhouse. The short movie followed by a trip through the hatching room is a great warm up to this fun experience. See hundreds of different colors as the butterflies flutter around this large greenhouse. A good tip: wear bright colors and/or floral print shirts to attract them to you.

Butterfly Wonderland and Odysea

By Roxann G |

I loved this place. My friend and I spent a couple of hours just in the Butterfly Wonderland alone. There are real beauties there. You'll discover not just butterflies but a couple of free range chickens and a big Koi pond too. It was wonderful. Watch your step!!! Don't want to step on any butterflies!!!!!

Beautiful Butterflies But Crowded and Expensive

By ChicagoGlobeTravel |

The butterfly exhibit is like a large greenhouse filled with lots of tropical trees and plants. The butterflies are numerous and, as most reviewers state, very beautiful. There are so many butterflies that you can find a greater photo every step around the greenhouse. I found the opening film and then introductory lecture to be informative and a little bit entertaining. However, the large crowd greatly detracted from the experience.

Adjacent to the butterfly exhibit is a schmaltzy laser obstacle room and mirror maze. The laser thing was expensive and very short for the price paid. The mirror maze was a lot of fun. The package of all three (Butterfly, Mirror Maze, Laser thing) made for an enjoyable but expensive few hours.

Spring break fun

By Lena M |

I loved the experience! I will say I think adults and very young children are the ones who enjoy it the most. My niece and nephew are 9 and 10 and they ran through pretty fast. They liked the movie but got bored in the butterfly room. They did become engaged when a worker brought out bugs for them to hold. Hindsight I'd make sure we made it there for the reptile program.

Fun & Unique!

By AZ to MO | Adventure Mom |

This is not only a fun and unique exhibit in the valley, but is also the largest butterfly conservatory in the country! We’ve been here a couple of times as a family and as a field trip. Every time is fun for not just my children (ages 6-12), but also for the adults in our group.

Each visit starts with a 3D video of the lifecycle of a monarch butterfly followed by a a tour of the property’s butterfly hatchery where you can witness multiple species hatching from their chrysalis in real time.

The remainder of the tour is spent in the manufactured rainforest where hundreds of butterflies (dozens of species) fly around you and even land on you.

There is also a small reptile and aquatic exhibit before entering the gift shop.

*****NOTE****** this is one in a series of museums on this property. This museum takes less than 2 hours total. I recommend buying the combo ticket with the other museums in the area if you plan to be here all day.

Hanging out with the butterflies

By Debbie |

Fun place to stop and admire the butterflies! They are not shy about landing on you. The visit includes a short 3D film and also a small aquarium with rays and giant gourami. There is even an interesting vending machine where you can purchase unusual packaged snacks (flavored crickets, cheddar cheese worms, ant wafers, etc)
