Spiritual and architectural beauty

By Pinevalleyite |

Been here before but since in the area, had to go again. It’s just a stunning architectural delight and a spiritual place to be. Parking is difficult but just park at the bottom to avoid the lines and hassle going up. There were 3 golf cart people offering rides up and down for a small fee and they could go up the middle between the stopped cars. At the top, there are also wheelchairs and a walker to borrow if you have difficulty navigating the inclined path from the drop off to the actual church.

Beautiful little chapel with the most amazing views

By ScottRoby |

This is definitely a must stop when visiting in Sedona if only for the amazing views you can see. It does not open until 9:00am and I highly recommend getting there early. We didn't realize it was not open earlier but we just waited about 10 minutes until it did open and were happy to be able to get a parking spot fairly close to the chapel.

My solo trip to Sedona

By Raman G |

I took the trolley to the Chapel. It was so beautiful and peaceful. I mediated there too. Really worth the visit,

Stunning

By aprilflowers21 |

Absolutely beautiful! I think I must have taken hundreds of photos of the red rocks and the cathedral itself. Easy to get to. There is parking in parking lot and along street. A must see!!

A great place to explore while traveling to Sedona. The area is really nice. The true natural Arizona dessert vibe all around. Very cool- stop on by

Very beautiful view

By pierre c |

The Chapel is small and very original, the views are truly magnificent. Small “climb” on foot to be expected, as parking is limited.

Worth the experience.

By Amy |

Really cool chapel nestled in the red rocks. The chapel is very small but there’s a sizeable gift shop downstairs. The parking is not great. Be prepared to wait in lines to score a roadside spot or in one of the small designated areas. (Handicapped spots are available at the top). Thankfully, I gathered that most people visit for less than 30 mins so there’s a constant turnaround of visitors which means parking spots open up regularly. We went on a Monday at 11 am and it was packed. Beautiful views from inside and outside of the chapel. Definitely worth experiencing.

tight parking, great view

By mastaple |

amazing little chapel built into the hills of sedona. serene and quiet. short walk up a steep incline or hope for limited parking

Two small parking lots, go before 10AM

By Nicole |

Beautiful views! I read that parking was limited so we got there about 9:15 on a Saturday. There were several spots available but I took the first one I could find at the lower level lot. There is a steep walk uphill to the top of the chapel. Portable toilets at the bottom when we went.

Sprawl in the desert

By Gary Manilla |

My wife and I visited the chapel during a leg of our honeymoon back in 1991. It was a truly spiritual experience. It stood alone above the desert, clearly Mr. Wright appreciated the placement. We had an opportunity to revisit the chapel in the fall of 2023. It was a nightmare. The first thing you notice is the suburban sprawl around the base of the chapel. They were crammed in there. I believe that the parking lot held maybe 30 cars but we never got close enough to see as the line to get in must have been a quarter mile long. Unfortunately, Sedona has been discovered. If you like ridiculous traffic in front of tiny stores selling plastic junk then head on over.

Quick stop or long if you like. Beautiful views and a gorgeous representation of Jesus inside .

By Celeste J |

Beautiful, views from the “deck” were so nice and the Chapel was small and quiet. Everyone inside was respectful. I lit a candle for a dollar and went down to the gift shop. It seemed odd to me to have that gift shop inside but I found a cute acorn for my granddaughter and left. You do need to walk up a ramp to get inside. They have several parking spot up the driveway and a golf cart if you want a lift. I was in and out in 15 minutes. I recommend a stop here.

A Sedona Highlight

By krine |

Take the Sedona Trolley to this awe inspiring chapel, get out right at the access ramp, and leave all the stress to your driver. It’s well worth the visit.

Worth the Visit

By 456lesliet |

This is a nice stop while visiting in Sedona. There is spot you can stand and look up at Jesus. It’s very moving. I had to do it twice.

Beautiful chapel, overcrowded

By LaDonna S |

So many people, parking full, only able to take photo as we drove by the chapel. All popular scenic places in Sedona very hard to visit. Shuttle service is now suggested for tourist. Sad to see such a beautiful place that is not accessible and enjoyable. We were able to enjoy some lesser known trails for scenic photos.

Beautiful views

By Kimberly W |

Relaxing and you can light a candle for a loved one that passed. Nice to see the views and honor someone’s passing with the candles and memorial tribute.

Magnificent views

By Cincat |

This was a great idea to drive up and check out the beautiful views. The church is very majestic and the views are spectacular from there.

Beautiful

By juliet t |

Just a beautiful setting and perfect to find your spirituality. Set in the red mountains of stunning Sedona.

Beautiful wiews and a unique religious experience

By dysphorichousewife |

I'm Catholic and had the opportunity to attend Mass at this beautiful chapel. The views are gorgeous! You can park down below and walk up or hitch a ride on a golf cart.

Beautiful Chapel on the Hill!!

By Donna F |

What an incredible place for serenity and prayer. Sits in a most beautiful setting. Mass Services are held at 3pm each day. There is a fantastic gift shop, so save space in your luggage to take things home. Very reasonably priced items that you will want to buy!!! Suggest you go as soon as they open - noon - because it gets VERY crowded. You can drive there - parking is plentiful, but it is a hike up to the church. Or you can take one of the trolley trips.

Very spiritual and moving by!

By Margie R |

I happened to go during the last hour of the Chapel’s operation and at 5:00pm there was a beautiful prayer service with Gospel readings, dong responses, and must cal chants. Very spiritual experience shared with a full crowd!

Drove by just to see

By Lori M |

Just did a drive by. Interesting construction. Parking is a challenge. Wouldn't put on a must see list

Worth a Visit!

By Sailawaywithme |

This is a very small chapel and it can get crowded quickly. Parking was an issue, so I would plan my visit for very early or very late in the day. It was worth the visit, but if you are short on time, the best photos of the chapel are from the outside as you drive up. Inside the chapel you will see a crucified Jesus on a large, floor to ceiling cross, and a small gift shop downstairs.

Brief Stop On Our Way To Sedona

By John H |

We stopped here on our way from Phoenix to Sedona. It was a great spot to stretch our legs and see some beautiful vistas. The parking situation is a bit tight, but taking an hour or so out of your day to visit is well worth it.

Amazing place!

By Michael G |

Beautiful and breathtaking! The church was amazing and the views were spectacular. Easy to find but parking is limited, so get there early.

Quick and Gorgeous

By Victoria G |

Quick walk up a hill for gorgeous views. I'd recommend leaving a donation at the church since the staff was so kind to us visitors wandering in and taking pictures.

Very cool place

By K B |

This is a very popular site so getting here early is a real advantage to find parking. Even though a nearby sign says no parking available, check it out anyway as people are continuously coming and going.
The Chapel itself is simple and beautiful. The views from the deck are awesome. Handicap parking is limited but seems available in the am.
Another attraction from here is an enormous house: a lot of people don't like it there, call it an "eyesore" but I think those folks are simply jealous. But, really, I can't fathom why anyone who can afford a house like that would build it in such a public location!

Amazing!

By Zaidtree |

One of the top places to visit in Sedona. You can drive up to the top parking lot. The chapel is beautiful. So peaceful. The history of the chapel and the determination to have it built and finished is interesting. Great views of Sedona.

Bit Disappointed

By Sergio M |

If you are here to come for mass, avoid it. 95% of people are here for photo ops. Parking is impossible, come early for sure. Seating is small, but it is a chapel. If you are here for mass, it might be some work. People are taking photos, parking is impossible, have to walk up a giant hill. Makes for a great hiking adventure, not necessarily mass. I do believe this is outside the church's control however; the church is 10/10 great.

Gorgeous, as always.

By Out This Door |

I grew up in Sedona and have visited this church many times. The view from the church is magnificent. Any weather, any time of day! Last time I went here was with family visiting over New Years. It was snowy/rainy/foggy which added a lovely ambience you hardly ever get in dry AZ! The church itself is also beautiful. It is tiny but you are welcome to walk in, take pictures, have a seat, light a candle. The gift shop is amazing! Beautiful ornaments and souvenirs along with religious gifts too so there’s something for everyone. It’s tiny and packed though. As for parking—this location can get really really busy during the peak season. Plan to get there early in the day or late in the day. There are many parking spots but they do fill up fast just like every parking spot in Sedona. Visiting during the off season is better. There are three levels of parking because the church is up above the surrounding plain. So if you have mobility issues, go right to the top level and then work your way down until you find a spot. But if you have good mobility, park below and walk up. It’s not a steep walk and it is on pavement but its single file since there’s not much room along the street. There is a port-a-john. I recommend hitting a public restroom in either Tlaquepaque or the Village of Oak Creek before you get to the church. Definitely worth the visit!

Beautiful Holy Place

By dlynnb2014 |

Beautiful Holy Place in the rocks of Sedona. I enjoy seeing it and sitting for a few minutes every time. I also light a few candles for loved ones who have died.

A must do in Sedona

By Karen Y |

Beautiful even on a cloudy cold day. It was busy but we were able to find parking close to the chapel (just keep driving up the entrance road). There was also a golf cart taking people up to the chapel entrance. The chapel is very solemn and beautiful. The grounds are so nicely maintained and was well worth the trip.

Must see Chapel

By AmazingRacer22 |

Beautiful, small chapel built on the side of a rock. The setting is incredible and very peaceful when inside the Chapel. Does require a lot of time but so worth the trip.

Peaceful, Serene, and Wonderful Place for Prayer of Meditation

By Steven L |

This is an absolutely beautiful chapel. This is a Roman Catholic chapel but anyone of any faith is welcomed. Is is a very graceful, reverent and peaceful place to pray or meditate. It is relatively quiet once in the chapel. You can still hear noise from the other tourists outside. Parking is limited so you might have to battle with that.

Beautiful

By theskoop |

Amazing to find a chapel built amongst the rocky environment. Beautiful vistas. Worth a visit! Fortunately, those visiting the chapel were silent allowing for a few moments of prayer and contemplation.

Inspiring

By Mary C |

The Chapel of the Holy Cross is just beautiful, It sits atop the red rocks in Sedona, Arizona. The chapel was commissioned by local rancher and sculptor Marguerite Brunswig Staude.

The chapel is built on Coconino National Forest land which is just stunning. The drive is beautiful and when you get there you will be in heaven. You can get married there if you want. Check their website for details about that. They have a great giftshop both there and on line. If you are religious you will feel the hand of God, if not you will be amazed by the views and the building itself.

They have wonderful art there which includes: God’s Mercy: four silk hangings (Creation, Heavens, Earth, Life) Jacqueline Jackson, Sedona, Installed May, 2016, Our Lady of Mercy: Miguel Martinez, Taos, Installed, September 2016 and God’s Mercy in His Son: James Muir, Sedona, corpus of the cross installed November 2016.

The beautiful building itself stands out among the red rocks.

Take the drive up and park where you can. I recommend getting there early. If you drive to the top there is, thankfully, disability parking spots. There is also parking below, but it is a walk, so keep going up and you may not have such a hike.

This is definitely worth the trip. It is amazing how they built this. You will love it, as it is one of a kind.

Special place

By jtfuji13 |

This was a wonderful site to visit. It is quite a long walk up to the chapel, so take advantage of the golf cart 'helpers'! The views are spectacular and the chapel itself is very warm and inviting.

Location does close and gates are locked, Nice area

By Claudia10229 |

We drove in around 3:30pm and had no challenges with parking. There are several parking sections as you drive up to the top of the mountain. You walk up the street to a path that goes to the Chapel. There are nice views and seating area on the outside of the Chapel.

The gift shop was closed, or rather not letting new people in but it appeared to be down some stairs. We sat on a bench and prayed and reflected on our wonderful trip to Sedona. When we left, we noticed a person was manning a steel bar which blocked new cars from coming in around 4:45pm. I'm not sure if the entrance times change from May to other months but check that out.

Beautiful

By mocampers |

Absolutely beautiful! So thankful we were able to see the chapel and the amazing views! It’s extremely busy, we did a tour so our driver was able to drive us there, but it was very crowded. Other friends tried the next day and traffic was at a standstill so they didn’t make it.

Beautiful

By joshedunn |

A beautiful church built into the mountains. I always enjoy visiting. Such breathtaking views and sites from inside and outside the chapel.

Beautiful chapel reconnect with your spirituality!!

By Walter B |

We visited the chapel on our way to the hotel. What a beautiful church. We were lucky enough to be there as mass was starting. Great spiritual experience. Amazing views, Must see for everyone.

Beautiful Chapel on Top of the Red Rock Country

By Nicole S |

The Chapel of the Holy Cross is a must-see when visiting Sedona. It sits on top of the world and has beautiful views all around it. The chapel itself is very pretty.

Architectural beauty

By Danie W |

Beautiful architecture!! The crucifix is amazing!
Very impressive and easily accessible.
The view is picturesque. A must see.

Worth the drive

By MommaMaria |

Beautiful sight, was able to reflect and enjoy my surroundings. Even though there’s a lot of people mulling around inside it’s very serene and respectful. Golf cart service is provided for the lower parking lots.

Red Rock vistas and exceptional food

By edoylemusic |

Beautiful hiking trails for all levels. Every direction is a feast for the eyes with the singular Red Rock formations. Many astoundingly good restaurants. The only downside is the busy thoroughfare going through Sedona. Traffic can back up at peak hours.

Church in the Sky

By IndieBajan |

My family and I visited on 11/22/23 during our Grand Canyon road trip. The surrounding views of the Sedona Red Mountains and valley are amazing from the top parking lot and walking bridge. The facilities close at 5 pm but some ppl opt to hang around until sunset for the remarkable view. The best thing is that there is no entrance fee but all are welcome to donate when lighting a candle because the location is an actual Catholic Church. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes because the hike from the lower parking spaces to the top is very steep. Also, use the bathroom because the only public bathrooms are 2 porta-potties at the entrance below. All in all a great experience with beautiful photo opportunities.

Peaceful and deeply spiritual

By Bonnie C |

Simple and deeply spiritual place set in the red rocks of Sedona. People of all faiths can sit in this chapel and pray and meditate among the beauty of God’s creation. A great start to our day.

Worth stopping.

By greeneyes630 |

As with everywhere parking is tight. We stopped late morning on a Tuesday. Busy, waited a few minutes for parking. They provide golf cart shuttle. Flat incline walk. Church is beautiful. Gift shop. Views.

Beautiful

By Tash372 |

A beautiful piece of architecture. Parking at several levels. Drive to the top first!!! Less walking. Small piece of heaven.

Worth a visit

By sadiedust |

This was my second visit and I highly recommend a visit. The place is mesmerizing with a peaceful energy. I could have stayed for hours; in fact, I did. I believe a usual visit without a gift shop visit would take under an hour. I just sat inside in the serenity. The eyes of the Jesus on the cross followed you. I then ventured outside and drummed. The views were lovely.

Good views, accessible tar driveway

By Kaleigh |

Good views of the landscape nearby. A golf cart is available to give visitors rides up the tar driveway that goes uphill to the chapel & there is also handicap parking just near the chapel. Good accessibility up to the chapel. Worth a quick stop. Only open for daytime business hours.

Literally growing right out of the rock

By Margueriteevel |

This is a very beautiful, simplistic, organic chapel built right into the rock. Don't miss it! The inside is beautiful as well. I wish they had weddings here.

So peaceful and beautiful

By Kylie The Photographer |

One of the most stunning churches I have every visited but you don't have to go inside to feel the serenity, there's plenty of outdoor area where you can take in the view. A golf buggy was transporting People from the lower carpark up to the church when we were there, a great service.

Wow. What an awesome place.

By andrew |

Wow. Unreal church. Was so wonderful to go in and to be able to pray at. The path seems like it starts down the hill by portable toilets, which it does but it winds all the way up the hill so you could wait and do drop off or park. They say parking is limited which it really is. Take the trolley from town! One way road dead-ends at church entrance onto but don’t see how folks turn around. I got lucky and found someone getting in their car to leave halfway up. Great experience.

Stunning

By Proszey85 |

This is a must stop if you're close! The chapel is beautiful and very emotional to see. Enjoy a small gift shop as well and the views that are amazing.
FYI.. it was EXTREMELY busy and VERY congested. We parked way below the chapel and easily caught a golf cart ride to the top of the really steep hill. Its free, just tip a few $$..
The road dead ends at the top, and cars find themselves boxed in and U turning.
Parking at top is more for a tour bus or handicap.. with maybe 5 parking spots... park at the first available spot & then enjoy!

Gorgeous!

By Tracy M |

The views are gorgeous. The architecture is one of a kind. Only downfall is weekend business leads to lack of parking. So plan your visit during the week.

Go Early. Don't Miss.

By Deb H |

Beautiful chapel built into the mountain. Don't miss it but go early or late. They're open from 9 to 5 (I think). Parking is a MESS during the day. Incredible views.

Simply unmissable

By ADXBS |

Unmissable if you are visiting Sedona as it also affords some of the best views of the magnificent rock formations around the town. Parking can be a bit of challenge sometimes.

Outstanding Views

By RxDive |

Outstanding surrounding vistas in the very popular attraction. Heavily visited with frequent parking issues. Surrounded by red rock mesas and valley views. Definitely recommended.

Beautiful Architecture

By DontStopExploring |

It looks like this is built right into the rock. Beautiful architecture and views from the top. Lots of parking.

Frank Loyd Wright architecture

By Leo L |

This is classic architecture from Frank Loyd Wright and should not be missed when traveling in Arizona, in Sedona in particular.

Just Go

By John L |

The chapel is cool but not overly impressive. The surrounding rock formations are gorgeous.. GO.. and go when the sun is setting it’s so much more beautiful… and wait for the golf cart ride up to the top if you are older and have to park below

Spectacular

By stardust1229 |

A visit to this Chapel was tops of what I wanted to see in Sedona. It did not disappoint...the structure is astounding, showcasing God's spectacular creation & imagination. Inspirational. My only comment is regarding the Chapel's access. If the visitor is in good physical condition, one might have no problem climbing the steep winding path way from the bottom. However, this writer is a Senior and that climb would have been extremely challenging. Consequently, we took a tour out of Sedona that included the Chapel with the driver taking us directly up the hill & letting us out at the closest access point, same location as the small, limited handicapped parking area. As I recall, we had 20 minutes at that stop. So, decide viewing based on a visitor's physical condition and amount of time available. Worthwhile.

Beautiful Church

By Windwalker1938 |

Built in a red rock formation on the edge of Sedona. Beautiful Building with fantastic views. The interior is very moving, solemn and serene.
A must see for visitors to Sedona.

Relaxing and beautiful

By osnoopy13 |

My wife and I liked this site so much we visited it twice during our recent trip to Sedona. It’s easy to get to by car with an easy access to the chapel from the parking area. Nice place to rest and enjoy after hiking in the areas nearby. Loved the views and we said a few prayers for safe journey during our trip.

Don't drive to the top.

By anita059 |

It is something lovely to see and amazing, but the parking is back. We went to the top and there was no place to park and started back down and they are cars packed in there we had a hard time getting back down and never even found a place to park and get out. best thing is to park at the bottom and let them take you to the top in a cart, I only learned about that after I left.

Disappointed in Sedona

By Sandy |

My husband and I visited Sedona this week, to relax and enjoy the beautiful outdoors. The one place that we wanted to see was The Chapel of the Holy Cross. I had no idea what was to come when we got there. It was a very crowded Tuesday. We parked near the middle of the road, and a man in a golf cart brought us up to the top parking area. There were maybe 4 or 5 disabled parking spots. I saw 2 wheel chairs; one was occupied. I then discovered why. There's a long steep ramp that goes up to the chapel, and it's the only way to get up to it. My husband and I are not youngsters and he wasn't able to push me in a wheelchair up the long ramp. The golf cart drivers told us that they weren't allowed to drive people up it either. He also told me that the employees have been trying to get the church to purchase a scooter for years, but the church refuses. I sent an email to the church regarding this issue, and received no answer. There is NO mention of any kind of accessibilty issues on the churches website, but there needs to be for people like me.

A Majestic Oasis of Serenity: Embracing Nature's Beauty at Sedona's Chapel

By Dmitriy M |

Upon approaching the chapel, take a moment to absorb the majestic beauty of Sedona's red rock formations that embrace this architectural gem. The chapel's soaring presence, with its iconic cross silhouette, serves as a beacon of faith against the backdrop of nature's vibrant tapestry.

Once you step inside, a profound tranquility envelops you, gently guiding you towards introspection and reflection. The clever integration of the chapel with the natural rock formations creates a seamless harmony between human craftsmanship and the awe-inspiring grandeur of the landscape.

Allow yourself to be mesmerized by the interplay of light and shadow as it dances through the floor-to-ceiling windows, casting vibrant hues upon the chapel's stone walls. The exquisite stained glass windows infuse the space with a divine radiance, inviting you to pause, absorb, and appreciate the sacredness of the moment.

Church or Bond villains lair

By Kentwoolgar |

Firstly, I’m not at all religious but where else are you gonna see an architectural masterpiece rising from the red rocks of the desert. Hiked across from little horse trail and chicken point. Church gets really busy, parking all down the hill.
Stand in the footprints and Christ will look down on you. Not the first time he’s done that for sure.

Impressive design for a church in the side of the mountain

By ConfederateMike |

An unusual design for a church in the middle of Arizona. The outward appearance is impressive and the church inside is also a memorable site to experience.

An uplighting religious experience to refresh your soul.

By Kenneth_Mueller |

My family and I visited the Chapel of the Holy Cross on a Monday afternoon. It was an uplighting religious experience to do during Lent. It highlighted that Christ our Savior gave His life for our sins. The Chapel was plain and simple in its beauty and we and other guests entered in quiet and reverence. We said some prayers and quiet devotions.
This is not a secular attraction. If you want to pray, this is a good place.

Well Worth the Climb

By Teresa R |

You can either park below and hike up or get a golf cart ride up the hill. Whichever way you go, it is worth the trip. What a charming chapel in the hills just outside of Sedona.

Very busy

By LAW64 |

Very busy even in early April. Steep hill and lots of traffic as it was hard to find a parking space. Quite a steep walk to the church but lovely views and the church is a moving place to visit. It would be helpful to have a map of the surrounding rocks.

Magnificent Architecture!! Beautiful and Majestic Setting!!

By Shaked007 |

The Chapel of the Holy Cross is an amazing architectural achievement.
The chapel was inspired and commissioned by local rancher and sculptor Marguerite Brunswig Staude and was completed in 1956.
The primary feature (as I see it) of the chapel is its setting into the natural surrounding rock formations, which is outstanding.
One can spend time just walking around the chapel and viewing it from outside in different angles, each time discovering a new sight and point of view.
The chapel interior is also very impressive with the huge cross and window facing the view.
Magnificent Architecture!! Beautiful Chapel!! A Definite MUST!!

Holy ground

By blumen |

This chapel was my favorite place in Sedona! As this is a Catholic chapel, the Blessed Sacrament is reserved in the tabernacle on the altar. Because of this, Jesus is truly physically present, and his Presence is overwhelming, flowing with peace and love. His gaze from the cross is mesmerizing and personal. I wish I could have stayed for hours. Forget the vortexes. This is the real deal!

High and Holy in Sedona

By SobremesaStudios |

Lovely setting . Parking is a problem. Way too many people. Somewhat of a disappointment since there were so many areas requiring assistance for handicapped persons. And people blocking others making mobility somewhat difficult. Be prepared for a climb from where you park your car to the ramp way leading to the chapel.

Next time I'd just have the bus drive by it.

Must see for everyone

By Holly W |

Whether you are a believer or not--this is a must see in Sedona. The structure is stunning from nearly every vantage point. The inside is small and contemporary. If you are a believer, it's a very new and fresh worship space that captures the heart of our faith.

Worth the trip and effort

By Ron R |

This is definitely worth the trip and hassle. Resist the urge to park in first spot you find. The climb in the elevation to the top is not fun. Keep driving to the top and you should end up with a good and close parking spot.

The view and the chapel are beautiful.

Beautiful!!

By Kolin P |

"Spiritual" centering in the midst of AMAZING beauty!!! It was a must see and visit for my wife, daughters and me.

Man-Made Chapel Built into God-Made Red Rock Buttes

By Nikko Gandia |

Visited on 5/9 & hiked other trails during a Phoenix & Sedona trip & posted a vlog! Search "Nikko Gandia Travels Sedona" on YouTub3. The man-made chapel is beautifully integrated into the God-made red rock buttes. Views of the valley are stunning. The chapel itself is small, making it a more intimate experience while inside. Free parking and there were golf cart transports from the bottom parking lot up to the entrance.

A jewel in the mountains

By Kathleen P |

In the middle of red rocks. Very nice place, a little bite busy....we went there at the end of the day but I think it would be more calm early in the morning or during an office.
Spiritual place where meditation should be possible with the raising sun.

Beautiful chapel!

By Sandra T |

Awesome chapel- gorgeous area. Beautiful inside the chapel. Large gift shop with a large selection of items. Friendly staff. They had golf carts for those unable to navigate the walk up.

Chapel

By CAM |

Absolutely loved everything and especially the story. Great gift shop too. Our second time there. Was as special as the first time visiting.

Very busy for a Friday 4/19/24

By John P |

We purposely avoided the weekend, and the traffic was still heavy. I dropped the ladies off at the top, and found a parking space on the way down. There was a Service going on in the Chapel, and with the wonderful weather, the views were incredible. There's a great hike out the back which we did last time, but time was limited this day.

A must visit in Sedona

By Tom Campbell |

Simply a marvel of Sedona. Wonderful place for the blessed sacrament and for all of the catholic family. Amazing architecture and artistic work in a small church. Great information and gift shop on lower level of the church. And the views are very nice.

Stunning views with great architecture

By explore_enjoy |

Very peaceful ambience with stunning views and great atmosphere . Parking is limited but shuttle services to chapel from parking area and vice versa is helpful .

Stunning!

By JustAAdventurer |

The views at the top were amazing. Parking definitely needs to get a little better, we spent 20+ minutes looking for parking. It’s an amazing site, the architecture is awesome, and is a must see while in Sedona.

Chapel of the holy cross

By Climber63630970817 |

This place is beautiful, you have to check it out! This chapel is built into the rock and is hard to miss. You can see it from many other locations. The inside is beautiful with a place to pray or light a candle for a loved one who has passed. They have a super cool gift shop down the stairs on the left where you can buy things like crosses, rosary’s, and many other religious based things. If you have the time make sure to stop by.

Unique and Not to Be Missed

By foodie848 |

A very unique chapel...and this history behind it sooooo interesting! Definitely glad we made the time to visit it.

Quick visit to a stunning chapel

By Teresa V |

Parking is limited. Be prepared to drop off and find parking. Red Rock views are beautiful. Church is small and quaint. Worth stopping by to visit.

Sedona trip

By Beverly C |

This is a must see..... beautiful building....and outside gives you a panoramic view of the mountains....worth the trip....

Really a beautiful church.

By ddmscool |

We went to this church built in the late 1950’s. Really beautiful.. a still working church. Great reverence. Beautiful

Worth a quick visit….

By Kevin V |

This chapel is worthy of a quick visit. Very unique the way it’s built into the rock wall. Parking can be tricky though, may be necessary to walk up from lower lots.

Spiritual

By Valerie B |

One of my favorite places to visit. Spent time in the chapel reflecting and praying. The views were astounding!

Spiritual Amidst Stunning Architecture

By Mark B |

The Chapel of the Holy Cross in Sedona is an amazing place. It provides a renaissance of spirituality coupled with breathtaking architecture and views of the surrounding area.

A Must see! But take the shuttle and avoid the parking frustration.

By Stephen S |

Don't circle looking for parking...it's a waste of time...just shuttle there! It's easier and less frustrating. But the chapel views are worth it!

A busy attraction. Not a place of spiritual peace, quiet and serenity.

By Renee C |

The view from the hill is spectacular. The actual chapel is fine for Catholics who enjoy lighting candles for the dead and seeing Jesus still hanging on the cross - except this one is a tree with branches. Really? Stand on the footprints and look up to see "Jesus" looking down at you? I did not feel good being in there and had to leave. Felt like idolatry. I was disappointed. It was not a place of quiet and serenity but more of an attraction.

Drove a beautiful scenic highway from Flagstaff to Sedona and went to this church site.

By GeorgiaLove2Travel |

This was a beautiful location and there were beautiful views in and around the church. From the elevation of the church, there were wonderful and amazing overlooks.

Catholic Church built into the scenic Red Rocks of Sedona! Limited parking near the top; however, they run golf cart shuttles to the upper level. Nice photo opportunities! Take the time to step inside and enjoy!

Quick stop, worth it!

By TkB |

Beautiful little chapel at the top of the mountain with great views! Traffic is a bit hectic but enough people coming and going that there isn't a long wait.

Beautiful Church. Beautiful views.

By RoverP |

This is a beautiful piece of architecture. It is absolutely appropriate to both its location and purpose. Whilst the views from the church are magnificent, don’t leave without reading the story of how it came to be on boards to the left of the door outside the church.

Beautiful, emotional ...

By clarkejo |

Being catholic, i felt this chapel deep in my soul. I was very emotional. The setting is stunning and it gives believers an opportunity to reflect and pray, without the tourists interfering, i loved it here. The addition of golf carts to take you up and down from the carpark to the chapel and back, was a Godsend (pardon the pun!) x

A sight not to miss.

By Andover |

If you appreciate architecture, then you will be blown away with how The Chapel seamlessly blends with the stunning natural surroundings. It is built into the red rocks of Sedona and offers an inspiring experience.
The interior of the chapel is serene, with minimalist decor that complements the natural beauty outside.
Make sure to visit the terrace. There you will have stunning views of the red rock formations and the Arizona landscape.

Amazing

By Compass311344 |

The Chapel is beautiful. There is a lot of people but for the most part respectful. The Chapel dose not hold very many religious services there, so make sure you read very carefully the website. The services show on the Chapel website are held at a different church.

Just OK

By A H |

Very long lines to get to parking, limited space to turn around. The chapel itself is small and very crowded. It’s architectural unique, and situated in a great location.

Chapel of the Holy Cross - awesome!

By K A |

Wow!! This is must see. The chapel built in the mountain is amazing, and it's so moving to sit inside with the view and looking at the cross with Christ.

Great view!

By AndreaLeverkusen |

We were here in the late summer of 2023, not even for the first time.
The church is located on a small hill. She herself is very simple. The special thing is the view you have from above.
There is free parking downstairs and also a bit further up, the rest is on foot. We've seen golf carts that have got people running with difficulty to the end of the road. You're not driving the last bit of footpath.
The path is lined with cacti that bloom beautifully or bear fruit depending on the season. You can see the red rocks.
A nice little detour!

Sense of Peace

By Trina A |

The chapel is beautiful. A guide pointed out that the rock formations directly across look like the Holy family and that added to the experience.

Beautifully placed!

By gaetane T |

What a gem we found nestled down a little road in Oak Creek!
A very serene and beautiful place to visit and the views from the top are breathtaking!

Third or fourth time here. Still wonderful.

By JJJC_Family |

Iconic place in iconic environment. If you like red rocks or think you would like red rocks, Sedona is your temple. And the Chapel of the Holy Cross is the temple within the temple. Actually, the church, itself, is ok, with a nice view from the inside. I like it. The view from the outside of the church of the surrounding area is fantastic, except the very large house below which seems inappropriate, even though I would love to own it myself for the view, alone. Very few people leave this spot without taking a bushel of photos and even though we have tons of them already, we always take more each time we visit. By the way, it’s a very peaceful place and I think it would a nice place to stay for services some Sunday, maybe a future visit. Even the trip up this way is lovely. The only negative thing about Sedona is that vegetation seems to cover and hide more of the red rocks every time we visit and that’s why we come. Oh, also the endless development which gobbles up more of the views, blocks the views, obscures the views, locks you out of the views. In the maybe twenty-five years since I first visited, it’s gotten to be a shadow of what it was. They should have made Sedona and the surrounding area a national park. It’s a travesty it wasn’t. See it before it’s destroyed completely.

Absolutely Amazing!

By Scott D. |

This place was absolutely breathtaking and spiritual. The views here are amazing. The feeling you get walking into the Chapel of the Holy Cross is something you simply can't describe.

Walking in there is just a sense of calm. It's very special to see all of the respect by others while here as well.

If you're in the area, be sure to come here and spend some time, you won't regret it.

Beautiful Chapel

By Becky G |

The chapel is beautiful! There is time to sit and pray or reflect in the chapel. The gift shop has some local artist finds at reasonable prices. The view from the chapel is amazing.

Take a moment and do this!

By Sheila7205 |

No matter your faith, this is a must see. Incredible view, place of holiness and spirituality. You can appreciate the Architecture and work that went into making this place special. A total bonus spot in your day.

Hardly worth it.

By Joe Black |

Hardly worth it .... crowded, poor parking, not handicap friendly .... we stopped down low just to get a pic from the front side without fighting all the traffic and parking problems our friends had the day before. Would not go back.

Inspirational

By Herb Butrum |

A must see! Very inspiring to visit, meditate, pray! Such an amazing vision which became a reality thanks to so many!

He didn’t care

By hbaird07 |

The boy shut the gate 4:44 pm.
Even though it says 4:45. If it were 4:45, we would have made it in for the service. Even though I explained that we were just passing through, he didn’t care.

Amazing chapel with incredible 360 degree views

By LightPacker777200 |

Amazing location with truly inspiring views. First tip, get there early!! they open at 9am, be there no later than 9:30am. Parking is a nightmare. It is spread out in multiple areas working its way up the hill to the chapel. Once there the viewa are awe inspiring in every direction. This is a must see in Sedona, but I cant stress enough GET THERE EARLY!

Amazing, It is a spectacular place, with beautiful landscapes. A special place to escape from routine and seek inner peace.

Holy Cross Experience

By debfluhrer |

Gorgeous church surrounded by huge majestic rocks, 360 degree amazing views. Golf cart shuttled us to the top from the car park; nice.

Amazing Place!

By JEParsons25 |

This was an absolutely beautiful place to visit and enchanting experience. The staff went overboard to accommodate visitors. The view surrounding the chapel was equally amazing.

Gorgeous Chapel!

By Shug40 |

Very beautiful Chapel. Amazing architecture. Gorgeous scenery from area around the chapel. Worth visiting if in Sedona area.

Very Spiritual Experience

By Kimber M |

My husband and I visited 2 weeks ago. It is a very spiritual and serene experience. We were there amongst other believers for approximately 30 minutes. We loved the peaceful atmosphere and felt very welcomed. There were visitors from every nationality, which was a beautiful thing to see in this tumultuous time in our country.

Beautiful scenery and twisty roads

By Jackie D |

The rocks are beautiful but getting close is difficult. Lots of tourists and parking fees The weather is unpredictable It is snowing today

Speechless

By JM K |

If you are visiting and asking what the top things are to do in Sedona, I would say this is one of them. Awe inspiring (except for the eye sore of a mansion that someone built right underneath it). Other suggestions are hiking, of course, and visiting Montezuma's Castle. I live here, and when people ask, I offer my suggestions. Top hikes are whatever you are interested in, because they are all good!

Simply amazing with spectacular views!

By Samuel A |

This is a must place to visit when in Sedona or the surrounding area. The chapel is absolutely stunning with amazing views of the surround mountains. The inside chapel is small, but very beautiful. Parking is limited, thus you might have a long uphill walk.

Spiritual energy vortex

By 316brandi |

This was an amazing and spiritual experience. It’s a very small cathedral with a gif shop downstairs. It’s built on an energy vortex. Parking is very limited so I’d recommend being patient or prepare to walk a bit.

A special place!

By Ivana Z |

Beautiful views of Sedona and a really special place. They say that the church is on top of an energy vortex, and it might really be because the vibe was truly special! The statue of Jesus was beautifully done also, for those who are not religious but appreciate art. :)

A wonderful God experience.

By Marcia P |

Unbelievable experience. I know the Holy Spirit filled us when we walked in. Tears came to our eyes. A must see when you visit Sedona.

Incredible Mass

By xenophile |

I'm reviewing this not so much as a tourist but as someone who attended church service -- the experience was incredibly special. The church and its environs are paired with Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden in South Africa for me as the most beautiful places I have seen on earth.

Going to church there is a magnificent experience -- friendly priest who lingers after the service to talk; beautiful music, including from a multi-talented vocalist who, after the service ended, began playing the flute while the congregation and tourists continued to enjoy the chapel; a friendly woman in an usher-like role who explained how to use the holy water and then joined me in doing so. The hospitality exhibited by everyone, right down to the man who stands at the gate, was so sincere that the congregation's inner beauty rivals that of the chapel's architecture and setting.

The priest did something I'd never seen before -- he invited Catholics to come forward and take communion and non-Catholics to come forward and receive a blessing. That graciousness encapsulates the experience. When I Ieft the chapel, my eyes had been stunned by the beauty and my spirit renewed.

Chapel of the Holy Cross - not for sunset!

By kerry b |

Beautiful place! I would not go here to watch the sunset as we were asked to leave at 5pm by the (slightly aggressive) employees.

Gorgeous view and beautiful story behind it all

By Julie W |

Beautiful experience!! Our tour guide on Lime Green Tours told us the back story which made this experience even better!!

Not to be missed in Sedona

By trunk54 |

Nice viewpoint and quite surprising building well integrated into the landscape. It is very small, the visit is quick. Hard parking.

Over rated

By Diane Y |

Not sure what all the fuss is about. Yes, it's a chapel nestled in the rocks but that's about it. There are some good views as you wind your way up the walkway from the parking lot to the chapel but you can get great views from pretty much anywhere in Sedona.
Parking is difficult. I suggest you park far away and walk up vs trying to snag one of the few spots in their lot.
The upside is that it's a quick pit stop on your way to or from Bell Rock so you can do both in one outing (though I only rated Bell Rock a 3 due to the traffic noise, so you may want to spend your time at the other 3 vortexes instead!)

A Unique chapel with breathtaking views

By Joel137 |

Beautiful vistas await you at the top of the chapel road. Long lines and parking issues may dissuade some, but worth the effort. They have some local rangers driving in golf carts to assist those who need a lift to the top or back down to their cars. Very, very nice touch. Please be sure to tip these guys a few bucks for their efforts.

Lovely and Unique Church of Sedona

By TravelerTrecker |

This is a modern chapel located at the top of a red rock. The chapel is small. It has a beautiful crucifix and the shadows of the body of Christ and the crown of thorns reflect on the glass and the roof making the site magical, mystical.

Many people the church every day. It could be difficult to find parking at the top. You may park at the base and golf car will take you to the top; otherwise, you can walk. We were lucky as we git a space very close to the chapel.

Read the history of the Chapel at the site. It is quite interesting.

Beautiful

By Christine P |

This chapel sits in/on the red rock. It is a peaceful, albeit busy, place to say a prayer and light a candle. Convenient, right off the scenic route through the red rock. We parked and were immediately offered a ride up the hill on a golf cart. Gift shop available in the basement. I do not believe there is handicapped access to the gift shop, but the ramp may be do-able.

Stunning tribute

By Judith R |

We went in the early afternoon. The views were breathtaking, just beautiful. Its amazing to see the architecture and how the chapel appears to grow out of the stone. This can only be seen from a distance.
The walk up is a little steep, but there is disabled parking at the top and also shuttles.
Its a beautiful memorial to God. There is also a gift shop with religious articles on the lower level of the chapel.

Stunning views

By Mary I |

This stunning, unique chapel was designed by an artist from NYC and built in 1956 on the side of a mountain overlooking Sedona. The views were scenic with the many unusual rock formations on the mountains and we got great photos of the valley. The parking is somewhat limited but golf carts carry you to the top if you would rather not walk. Inside the chapel is serenity and spirituality. A gift shop on the lower level offers a variety of unique items.

Views were amazing

By degrawm |

I'm not Catholic, but this small church which had wonderful views, could change my mind. I don't know what it is about Sedona, but I get such an inner peace being there and it was heightened with the views and the mass at the church. There is also a gift shop under the church - take the stairs to get there.

JUST GO. SEE IT FOR YOURSELF.

By Vince L |

Amazing sight! Just unbelievable Just go. See it for yourself. The views are grandstanding. You will never believe that they built this on top of the butte!

Chapel in the rocks

By Tom B |

The Chapel of The Holy Cross is a must see. It is a very beautiful and peaceful Chapel.
The entire chapel only has room for less than 100 people. The Crucifix is huge behind the alter, which beautiful with sun going down through the large windows. The parking is a challenge but is well worth it.

Very Moving

By skm8661 |

This was not only breathtaking and beautiful, but very moving. The architecture was magnificent, being built right into the red rocks. I sat in the small chapel for about 15 minutes and I was almost overwhelmed. The silence and the beautiful crucifix took my breath away. It is a must see for any trip to Sedona.

A must do in Sedona

By Claire G |

What a very special place to visit! The architecture is stunning, the chapel is so special - definitely a must do on any trip to Sedona. Parking can be a challenge so go early. There is a small gift shop that has some cute items.

Peaceful Experience

By MustTravel88 |

The Chapel of the Holy Cross is built into the red rocks. The red rock and cactus views are beautiful. The Chapel blends into the natural landscape. Inside, it is peaceful with a sculpture of Jesus that enhances the spiritual experience. We parked at the bottom and walked up not knowing there was parking at the top although the few parking spots were all taken. The gates close at 5:00 pm.

So beautiful!

By Jane H |

It's gorgeous! The gift shop is the best I've been to. For Catholics, it's disappointing you really can't get a holy experience because of the tourists but it is breathtaking. Walking up from the parking lot is not for the faint of heart or for people from sea-level locations. It's steep and it's hard to breathe the thin air.

A perfect spot for reflection

By Joyce M |

This is a stunning location with a beautiful chapel. The views of the city with the towering red rocks behind you, make for an inspirational visit.

One of Arizona's must sees

By Ruthie Owen-Moreno |

People from all over the world come to Sedona. The Chapel of the Holy Cross is a popular tourist destination, attracting many visitors. The town of Sedona has plenty of shopping, restaurants and hiking. Chapel of the Holy Cross is one hike that does not disappoint. Breathtakingly beautiful and serene!

Gorgeous!

By Laurat33 |

Get there first thing in the morning (9am), as it gets crowded quickly. Not a lot of parking, but well worth the visit. Be sure to take a pic of the chapel on the way up the hill. Beautiful inside!

Come for the view and experience the vortex

By MadisonGrog |

It is hard to write 100 words that capture the moving experience of being at this special place. I thought all the vortex talk was bunk until I went to the chapel.

Most amazing chapel.

By Kathy M |

The walk up to the chapel is well worth it! This is not to be missed if traveling to Sedona. Very inspiring. This is truly magnificent and spiritual.

Breathtaking experience

By Nancy W |

The tour information by the volunteer that took us up to the church. Interesting to hear how the dreams of a person with persistence got the US government to ok a church being built on govt. Land. While in the church the eyes of Christ were on us reguardless of where we stood in the building.

A Must See In Sedona

By Chuck L |

This chapel is part of the catholic diocese, but is welcoming to all people of all faiths. The artist worked with Frank Lloyd Wright in the design and building. It is relatively small, but has a beautiful and very large sculpture of Christ's crucifixion. There are so many symbolic nuances in the sculpture and throughout the chapel itself. The front of the chapel is all glass and overlooks the valley and mountains in the distance. This was a very moving experience.

Piercing eyes

By Bobej |

It was nice to actually get into the chapel. I went on a day that wasn’t crowded and there was plenty of parking. It was so serene. There’s a spot with feet where you can stand but when you look up you see a statue of Jesus on the cross looking down on you. It is not disrespectful to take photos while inside the chapel. Nice gift shop on the lower level.

Beautiful views!

By Lisa C |

Beautiful views! The hike up is somewhat strenuous but totally smooth & paved. Golf carts were shuttling some folks up. Very nice gift shop.

Tourist Area

By Kris D |

We stopped at the Chapel on our way into Sedona. We were there around 2pm on a Monday and it was easy to find parking as people are continually coming and going. Just make sure to drive up a bit and there are golf carts to shuttle people up and down as the walk up is steep. The views are amazing, but the site is not really peaceful with all of the tourists.

Amazing Experience and View Point!

By DVS867 |

Amazing experience and view from this beautiful chapel. Check out the carved eagle in the rocks on your right when visiting. It's such a spectacular place to visit. A must see!

Stunning

By DLAL25 |

Seeing the chapel built into the rocks themselves is amazing. Such beautiful views from the outside and beyond the altar inside. Get there a few minutes before it opens (9am for us) because parking is limited and you only need 15-30 minutes to appreciate it.

Beautiful chapel inside and out. They can provide a ride if it’s too far to walk due to parking

By Mike G |

Beautiful chapel inside and out. They can provide a ride if it’s too far to walk due to parking. They also have artifacts from the 12 apostles

Stunning church in the mountain

By RV Manifest Destiny |

This is worth the visit, but its a small road with limited parking. Amazing beauty. You can see this from the road as you drive in and then it narrows down considerable. This stop is NOT RV friendly. It gets crowded and can be tough to turn around or even back out of a spot, so be patient, its worth it.

Amazing,must see attraction

By Julie C |

This is a must see if visiting beautiful Sedona. Its about a 15 minute drive from centre of town. The chapel is set high on a hill with the most breathtaking views of the amazing rock formations that surround it.The chapel itself is stunning with the most unique architecture. Its free to visit and costs nothing to park. Its quite a steep climb to get to top but there is a man in a buggy that will shuttle you part of the way if needed. My Mum is 87 and this was a godsend for her.Dont miss this

Perfect place to start your Sedona sightseeing

By dands238 |

We visited here first on our sightseeing day and it was perfect. Amazing views of many of the different red rock scenic areas. Wonderful short walk up to the site from the parking areas. Beautiful place for photos.

A crowded experience!!

By Bill A |

Not as exciting as I thought it would have been. Not well organized in terms of managing the number of visitors. It was so crowded. Parking our car was a bad experience.

2nd time here and just as inspiring as the first time

By OnTheRoadAgain8180 |

This is such a beautiful place, simply incredible. While it is crowded, you can still find a place to get a little peace and quiet and simply marvel at the views. One note - parking at the top can be a challenge, but take one shot at it before you give up. If you have to park down at the bottom they have a shuttle that can drive you up if walking is a problem (it's a little steep).

Worth a visit

By Beautifuleveryday |

Close to town and well worth a visit when staying in Sedona. We visited on a Monday and it was not overly busy so parking was available. During holidays I imagine it would be a hard place to visit and the Sedona Shuttle would be a great option.

AWESOME VIEWS!!

By Christa L |

The Chapel of the Holy Cross is an absolute MUST SEE when in Sedona. The views from the platform where the church entrance is, are STUNNING!

It is easy to get to and even my elderly father (who has bad knees) and preschooler, were able to make the walk up to the chapel. Don’t miss this stop!

Always a beautiful place to be

By Paula C |

What is not to like about the beauty surrounding this quiet chapel? Well, let me tell you. A single line of cars for miles before the chapel, running thru all the roundabouts that only an insane person would design. Single line again going up the hill of possible parking, doing all the praying before we even got to the chapel. Miraculously when we got to the top and my husband was saying we'd just have to curve around and leave, lo and behold there was one handicapped space right at the top. There are four of them up there. I almost kissed the ground. -- Then the climb up to the chapel was strenuous. I had not gone there in 30 years and now walk with a cane. With my husband in front and my son behind I edged my way up and by the time I got to the top I felt that I'd made a terrible mistake as it was too hard for me and I realized that now I had to get down somehow. The chapel was beautiful, people were respectful about not crowding each other and I lit a few candles for friends in need. I was actually terrified of the trip down, but my husband and son teamed up again. I really isn't a hike for anyone disabled. We then thought we wanted to go to Tlaqapaque but it was impossible to even get near it. -- It was a Sunday. Do not go here on a weekend. We had planned to spend the whole day in Sedona, but left immediately. There were some people being driven up to the top by men using golf carts, but we never saw where they were getting onto them. - This is not meant to be a cathedral - it's a quaint but beautiful western type chapel. Worth seeing - just pick another day!

Wonderful views!

By Rupinder Kaur |

Beautiful views from this chapel. I had a really bad knee so hiking was limited, driving up to the chapel gave us the beautiful views.

Quick view from crowded parking lot.

By Jetrnur |

Beautiful view of this surprising structure within the rock. It is located in a residential neighborhood. It has a gate and parking is full to overflow. Sunday there were men in golf carts taking visitors up the winding driveway for a closer look. It is magnificent.

Vacay

By rusurucan |

Very nice spot to visit. It gets super busy and parking can be very hard to find. Go early. It is a steep walk to the top but upon our arrival we were greeted by a golf cart that was offering rides to the top. Do yourself a favor at take that ride!
It was very crowded at the chapel itself so be prepared for that. It’s a small chapel with a gift shop inside the bottom of the chapel. Overall very nice place.

Beautiful!

By Walt F |

This was a beautiful, quaint and emotional stop. Everyone went into the building and quietly said a prayer! Go see this. Views are breathtaking!

Check the timings!

By Margaret |

After a long drive from Vegas - arrived at 5:06pm - just after entrance to the chapel closed. Really disappointing - hadn't realised there's a time difference :( Managed to get some lovely photos from the outside - but not the same. The drive was beautiful - lovely landscapes along the way.

Beautiful Inside and Out - Parking CRAZY

By Fun4Me2Travel |

Took a trip here mid afternoon. Parking is located in different sections and gets REALLY tight in some spots, mostly due to people not obeying the NO PARKING signs. We did find a spot to park almost to the top. Note this is a up and back road. No great place to turn around. You walk a decent sized ramp to get up to the chapel. The view from up top is gorgeous. The city on one side and the red rock on the other. Seating available outside of the chapel. Inside the chapel lots of seating as well. Silence is maintained inside, phones must be silenced. People looking, praying, meditating inside. A neat place to visit, but VERY crowded all around.

Beautiful chapel and beautiful scenery

By tinaNtravel |

The chapel fits right into the scenery. The chapel is small with a huge window and in front of the window and behind the altar a huge statue of Jesus on the cross. There are footprints on the floor and if you stand on them and look up the statue of Jesus is looking directly at you. There is a gift shop downstairs and to the left as you enter the chapel. The difficult part is the drive to the chapel. There was a long line of cars moving very slowly. In fact, at one point, I just got out and walked – and arrived much quicker than those in the car. Also, the only restrooms are four porta-potties on the side of the road half way up to the chapel. You may want to go to the restroom before you begin this drive. All in all, it was worth the visit and the view from the chapel is also quite nice

Breathtaking

By Corin M |

Absolutely stunning. If you park at the bottom the walk up is a little long but there were golf carts carting people up. The church is definitely worth the walk.

Must Visit!

By Ashley R |

When visiting Sedona you have to check out Chapel of the Holy Cross simply for its amazing architecture. Built into a mountain, it has to be one of the most incredible structures I have ever seen! And the views of Sedona are breathtaking! You only need about 10-20 minutes for your visit and parking was easy, so you don't need to do a tour to experience this site unless you want the extra history.

Tranquil chapel

By Lisa Y |

Beautiful and peaceful. People showed respect to the area and the meaning.
Inside was peaceful and some what dark. There is a gift shop downstairs. The parking is tight and the walk up is steep. We were lucky , that there was a golf car offering rides up and down which we gladly accepted. While the walk up is on pavement keep in mind the elevation

Breathtaking Location! Chapel of the Holy Cross

By charlottesl |

What an amazing sight to see! It literally took my breath away to see this beautiful Chapel high on the side of the mountain! To be able to see all the colors of Sedona, with a clear blue sky and this Chapel all in one........WOW! The inside of the Chapel is not large, but there is plenty of room for parishioners and guests. I learned that this is one of the smallest Chapels in the Diocese.

Come in, sit down, say a prayer, and if you are brave enough to do so, go up to the altar and stand in the footprints. Once you stand in the footprints, look up and you will see that Jesus is looking right at you. Amazing!

This is a location that you do not want to rush through. Take your time, meditate, pray, take in the beauty of this Chapel.

Pick up a brochure that tells you all about the Chapel and the cross within the Chapel, it is called the "Living Christ". The cross, well, all I can say is take your time to look at the cross with all its beauty.

If you want to do a little shopping, there is a gift shop downstairs inside the Chapel. Bring cash or credit card, there is a lot to look at and a lot to buy!

You will not be disappointed in the location, the Chapel, or the gift shop. The only hard part is the parking is located down the mountain. However, there is a handicapped parking closer to the top, but you still have a bit of a climb to get to the Chapel. Using my cane and holding onto the wall, I took my time, but I made it and it was well worth it!

What a view!

By Kim C |

It took a bit of logistics to get here because it only takes one ridiculous driver to back up the road. But the view is breathtaking from the top and worth the drive if you have the time and patience. Not Catholic, so enjoyed the chapel but didn't find it spiritually motivating. The view is really fabulous, so come if you have the time and patience to endure the potential traffic snafus. Fresh, clean air!

Spectacular

By Jay57 |

This is an amazing place. The church inside is stunning. Very beautiful. The view of the surrounding mountains is breathtaking. There is also a gift shop on site. This is a must see.

Beautiful views!

By Marie S |

Beautiful views from the chapel. Had to park a ways away and walk a long way uphill. Would be hard to do if it was hot out.

A must see

By Rachel M |

The chapel was stunning both inside and out! It is a must see when visiting Sedona! The views both inside and out are breathtaking!

Beautiful place.

By lotsagoldens |

I was here about six years ago, in October. At that time there were, at most, four other people wandering around. This time? Trolleys, golf cars, a total traffic jam! Now there are Gregorian chants playing in the background, it's very crowded, and there's a huge gift shop downstairs. Not that the chants and the shop are bad things -- they just took me by surprise. Probably so busy because of the "leaf-peeping" season. Still a lovely place.

Worth the stop!

By Chasnas |

Worth the stop! Beautiful and reverent chapel with a stunning view. Tip-Park at the base, away from the traffic jam up the hill, and hike to see it.

Wow

By Vacationer735418 |

If you are in the Sedona area, I believe this is a must see. Even if you aren't a spiritual person, the architecture and views alone are worth the experience. There isn't a lot of parking, so at busy times, be patient and ready to walk. 5/5

The beauty of the Holy Cross both inside and out!

By MeganMich13 |

I am not a very religious person, but this place was breathtaking! The walk to the chapel is a little steep but not terrible. We arrived around 8 AM and were able to park up close but it became extremely packed by 10 AM. If you do have to park really far it looked like they had golf carts picking people up and dropping them off which is really nice. The only downside of this experience was the lack of respect from a lot of tourists taking pictures and videos within the Chapel walls. It clearly states before you walk in "No Photography", so please don't be that person!! I would highly recommend anyone visit but make sure to check the times before you go and if you want to avoid the crowd, go early!

Interesting location

By Hans |

Because of its located and futuristic shape this church is worth visiting. But remember, you are not the only one. Parking space is limited and the chapel is not that big so it is quickly a bit cramped. Onder the chapel is a gift shop located.

Chapel

By danamc01 |

This was my second time visiting this chapel. It is always a pleasure. The chapel is very nice and has a huge cross with Jesus on it. It also has good views of the area. Candles are lit and you can stay and pray if you like. The parking can et crowded. It is a free place to visit but I think you can leave donations.

You shouldn't miss this church when you visit Sedona

By Brooke D |

Catholic or not, religious or not, don't miss this incredible church. It is the most impressive church I've ever seen in the U.S. It melds with the natural landscape and lets the sun roll through its windows. Both architecture and decor take your breath away.

Awe inspiring! Majestic view!

What a beautiful view! Such a special place to visit! A must do in Sedona! We visited after dinner one night as it had been recommended to us! What a special place! We will be back! Sedona has so many beautiful sights and this is one of the top!

Beautiful building with beautiful views

By Peter B |

Difficult to see from a distance, this church appears to be camouflaged into the stone that surrounds it.
To get to the church, car parking is limited, best to park at the bottom of the bank and walk up, for those who ha e difficulty in walking, there is transport to the church via ATV's, there is parking on the hill and by the church, but it is limited and there are a lot of cars vying for few places to park.
Once at the entrance, the views are worth getting there, the building - quite peaceful inside and modern looking, offers a chance to get your breath back and reflect what's around you.
Really worth a visit when in Sedona

Peaceful setting

By wardgarner |

The setting is lovely. The church is beautiful. A place to just be quiet and enjoy the setting. Parking can be an issue. We were there in the afternoon and parking was available, but we were told that this morning, (mid-week), all parking was full. If you need help walking to the church there are people in golf carts who will take you up and down. (Please tip).)

Huge disappointment

By Diane C |

So very disappointed. Not at all disabled friendly. Yes there are carts to take you to the ramp and there is a wheel chair there but even a very fit 20 year old would never be able to push a wheel chair up the long curving steep ramp up the high cliff side. We turned around and went back to Phoenix.

Beautiful view, reflective setting

By travelluver222 |

The church is built into a hill, with a stunning view of the Sedona area, as well as the rocks Praying Hands, and Mother and Child, hence the architect's choice for location. Parking is limited, and we were debating whether to walk up to the top, when a man in a golf cart offered us a ride. No-brainer! Even if you have to walk it yourself, it is totally worth it.

Nice to see once

By Susan101 |

We went during the week and it was crowded. Limited parking. If you do drive all the way up it is very difficult to turn around an SUV. Volunteers on Golf carts will drive you up for free. Please tip. Lovely scenery on top. Glad I went but don't need to return. They have gift shop below.

Nice to see.

By steven s |

Doesn’t really take to much time to see everything but it’s a beautiful chapel. Great views. Beautiful architecture in and out.

Extraordinary architectural achievement

By carlosju99 |

Was our first stop of the half-day Sedona Sightseeing tour. The Chapel of the Holy Cress is an extraordinary architectural achievement. Views are simply amazing, definitely I'll recommended.

not worth it

By 957marielt |

Tiny chapel (I think the gift shop is bigger than the actual chapel) and way overcrowded. Not enough parking, and if you do find a space, you have to walk up a steep hill. There's nowhere to actually view the outside front of the chapel, which is what's impressive about it, the way it's built into the mountainside- I should have just looked at a picture online.

Chapel of the Holy Cross: Sedona, Arizona

By egdrampro |

A free event & beautiful to witness a destination that honors the creator. Parking is limited and you may need a golf cart to bring you up the mountain when parking in the lower areas. This is a small chapel holding maybe 50 people at a time on benches and a cross with Jesus hanging on the inside. The outside shows an amazing cross in the rock.

Beautiful!

By Margaret D |

This place is beautiful. The only thing I would point out is after reading other reviews I assumed I could look out the large window. You can’t. That didn’t matter though because it’s such an amazing place

Breathtaking

By Sharon C |

Breathtaking. Wish I could have seen inside the chapel better. The windows were too dark and it was closed to visitors. I would love to have seen the crucifix up close.

Beautiful views!

By Iulia (Yu-lee-ya) |

Unfortunately, my friend and I did not have a whole lot of time in Sedona, so we visited the Chapel of the Holy Cross on a Saturday afternoon. The drive to the chapel was beautiful in itself, but once we actually got there, it was PACKED. Some people were parking, others were waiting for a spot already or maybe driving up to find a spot, and others were walking up the chapel on foot. It was super busy. They did have gold carts driving people up and down.
The chapel itself is high up so you get beautiful views of the rocks surrounding it. One can also light candles in the chapel if they would like (for a price). Since we were there in the afternoon, the way the sun fell, we couldn't truly enjoy the beauty of the inside of the chapel. Plus, there was a line to go inside and it just felt too stuffy with all those people crammed in a small space.
It seems like I only mentioned negative aspects in my review, but believe me the views are truly gorgeous. So if you can go on a weekday, I definitely think it's worth it. No hiking experience or gear needed, but there is some walking up a hill (my weak knees felt it).

Hope you enjoy!

Unique Church Great Views

By Red-Barchetta2011 |

Very Unique Church that fits in the Sedona landscape. When you see pictures of Sedona you will most likely have seen a picture of this Chapel it does not take long to see the church and maybe stop in gift shop. The views are amazing and a must see when in Sedona. The chapel itself very pretty and you can sit in pews and pray or just admire the architecture. We arrived later in day and we were able to find parking up top. But it can get crowded and you can park at bottom and they have people with golf carts take you to the top.

Church in the sky

By Julia B |

A short climb and a absolutely astonishing view of the famous architect’s work! A nice gift shop in the basement and services if you choose.

Beautiful church

By hinahina |

I heard that this church was built here as an inspiration, and since the exterior is modern, I thought it was built recently, but I was surprised to hear that it was built in 1955.

It was built by making good use of the sloping land, and the view from the observation deck is amazing.

There is a shop below the chapel that sells many items other than religious goods.

Uplifting experience

By newjerseyfamily |

Anyone interested in architecture, outstanding views or places that are spiritual will enjoy this, that is to say, everyone. We went in the morning during the week and that was a good time to go. Do try to drive up as far as you can as it is a steep walk. Yes there are golf carts to bring you up the last part. But you will be Rees with exceptional views. Inside was much smaller than you would think. I didn’t realize there was a gift shop. Inside the chapel you can sit, light a candle if you wish and reflect. They have a spot on the floor where you can stand and look up to see Jesus on the cross looking at you. I’d recommend it as a lovely experience you’ll be happy to remember.

Few days away

By paws0810 |

Every couple of years you return to this area just to visit the weather today was not exceptional, but at least it wasn’t raining. Crowds are not too bad.

Beautiful chapel

By Lynn Berg |

This is a serene chapel where a weary traveler can sit quietly and rest. Beautiful chapel

Parking is all along the windy road up to the chapel. Don’t take the first area. Keep driving. It’s a bit of an uphill hike from the lower lots.

Also dedicate the necessary time to a walk

By Aga1963 |

The building has an extraordinary visual impact, but my advice is to get there by walking clockwise around Mammoth rock (the mountain behind the chapel.
They are 5.8 kilometers which develop on various easy paths (a simple map is sufficient as the signage is very good) with an overall difference in altitude of less than 100 metres; the views that follow are extraordinary.
In summer it is highly recommended to leave early in the morning.
The car can be left along Chapel rd near the start of the Mystic trail (there are not many spaces available).

Such a beautiful experience

By Cristal D |

A must see in Sedona, worth the wait! We visited during the Labor Day holiday and the traffic was terrible, but definitely worth the wait

Beautiful chapel with breathtaking views …

By Michelle J |

This was one of the hi-lights of our Sedona Tour . What a beautiful chapel built into the side of the red rock mountain . The walk up is not easy , especially in the beating Sedona sun. The Chapel is very small but you are able to sit and reflect, pray , or light a candle . The gift shop is full of beautiful mementos but there are no public restrooms . Also note that the gift shop is in the basement so there are stairs to go down and up if you have mobility concerns .

Worship space

By Debbie E |

This is a breathtaking place! Holy and sacred space. Mass is celebrated there on Friday’s. I would definitely recommend seeing this!

Chapel of the Holy Cross

By KJL_84 |

Beautiful Chapel! A must see if you visit the Sedona area. Not only is the chapel amazing, the views from the grounds are too!

Misleading.

By Nikki L |

We didn’t get to see this chapel because we waited in the line to get into the parking lot for 25 minutes and then when we got to the entrance, we were routed through the neighborhood with no instructions, thinking that we were being placed into an offsite parking area, but that was not the case we were just routed into the neighborhood fend for ourselves with a whole line of other cars. Then when we came back around to see what was going on, we were told they were closed at 3:30 PM which it states on their website, Clearly they are open seven days a week from 9 AM to 5 PM. Bad experience and Never coming back!!!

Awesome Experience

By Eric V |

What a spiritual spot, especially if you are Catholic. A bit of an uphill hike, but the views are tremendous.

Stunning

By Michelle Y |

Worth the visit. Peaceful. Beautiful chapel. Parking fills quickly. We didn’t try to go to the top as we are able bodied. They did have several handicapped spots open at top and they had people on golf carts to help others get up.

Stunning

By nowpacking |

Absolutely stunning setting, the chapel has stood above Sedona for almost fifty years! The design is incredible and has more than stood the test of time. Strongly suggest you find an off time to visit - early or late - because the hoards of tourists and backed up traffic do detract from the intended purpose.

Must see. One of the ones on all the travel guides

By Baileyh0 |

One of the best places for pictures. Fan of Frank Loyd Wright. 3rd visit. Flowers still blooming. There were wheelchairs. Little up hill walking
.

Chapel of the Holy Cross

By mastergranny |

A very unique looking chapel. It is worth seeing at least once. If you happen to be one of the unlucky ones to park at the bottom, it is a long walk up hill to the chapel. We have been a couple times and had to park at the bottom both times. The second time we were lucky and got a ride up in a golf cart and back down. Below the chapel is the gift. A very nice shop.

Jaw dropping architecture and views at Chapel of the Holy Cross

By Hoopzfanatic |

After flying into PHX and eating at Matt's Big Breakfast we were on the road to Sedona in the early afternoon on Friday. Not as much traffic as I thought we might hit so that was a huge plus. Because it was the first time in Sedona for J and I we wanted to hit sights on the way to our hotel. One place we definitely wanted to see was the Chapel of the Holy Cross. As we turned down the street upon our arrival at the Chapel of the Holy Cross the view was jaw dropping. As we drove up there were definitely more cars than parking spaces (parking is very limited with only 45 spaces) but we went up to the top parking lot and upon our drive back down towards the road we lucked into someone leaving, woohoo! We parked and walked up the steep hill to the Chapel entry and found that the 3 PM Friday Mass was still taking place. We listened to the rest of the sermon then there was a short period of time they would pray with you or bless items that you brought.

The architecture and layout of the chapel is absolutely gorgeous. Walking into the chapel there was such a good energy with so many people in there admiring it also. We then went downstairs to the gift shop and there are many commemorative items that can be purchased.

I would definitely recommend stopping by the Chapel of the Holy Cross as the property and views are amazing. If you are driving up from Phoenix stopping on the way to your hotel if you are arriving in the daytime would be a good idea as well. If you are interested in going to their Mass or have any items to be blessed make sure to go on Wednesday or Friday before 3 PM (remember parking is tough and limited).

Spectacular views in a Sacred Place

By Laurie Carter |

Lovely chapel and spectacular views! Quiet place in late afternoon when there are fewer crowds and parking is easier to find. Worth the time!

Architecturally Stunning and Picturesque

By Sun-Sand-Surf-Golf |

Definitely worth seeing - the architects really embracing the Sedona context and Rock Formations to design this unique Chapel. Go see it !

Beautiful architecture

By P & G S |

This building is very beautifully built. I wish they had more in for about the structure or could answer questions. Also any history of the construction of it would be cool to see.

Shuttle service from the bottom

By jshallow01 |

We were there to visit on a Sunday. We parked at the bottom and there was a golf cart shuttle service that took us from the bottom all the way up two the entryway. They didn't necessarily seem to be stopping at any of the middle parking areas so it might be something worth considering if you can't park close and don't want to walk all the way up the hill. There are porta potties to use there but they are at the bottom of the hill by the bottom parking. Reviews from here are simply amazing and it is credible to view this site. They do have a decent-sized gift shop in the basement. Lots of postcards of the Sedona area, plus a lot of gem stone and religious items too.

Beautiful sight

By Paula S |

It was lovely to see the chapel and the view. Stunning pictures of the surrounding area and the chapel was pretty. There are golf carts who ride people back and forth to the lower parking areas, and wheelchairs available at the ramp so my son could push me to the chapel.

Interesting but slam packed

By Anventure |

Such an impressive endeavor and beautiful site. As a tourist attraction, it falls short. Cramped space, no ADA considerations save golf carts hazardously zipping through a cramped, oddly dangerous parking situation and a claustrophobic gift shop down steep steps. Everyone was friendly to include the people (several of them) who chose to bring their dogs. I had wanted to see this installation for some time. I am glad I made the stop and it was a bit more than a zip in/zip out for me as the crowded, loud environment left me with no peace or wonder. Pack your patience and understanding if you choose to visit. One would need the focus of a monk and pre-school teacher training to achieve a quality moment of reflection.

Small Church in Red Rocks

By SharonB231 |

This Frank Lloyd Wright inspired architecture blends right into the surrounding red rocks and scenery. It is a small but pretty church. There is a gift shop here. Parking is very limited, may be easiest to take a local tour to here or walk up the hill. Worth a visit

Inspiring

By Happy Lady |

Beautiful and Inspirational place with amazing energy no matter what your personal faith choice is! Parking is a bit tricky so plan accordingly, likewise pay attention to the opening and closing times. Over all would highly recommend to adding this stop to your Sedona stay! We loved it!

Taize Service

By pttygua |

We specifically attended the 5 pm Taize Service only held on Mondays. The church community was very welcoming. Participation in the Taize service was spiritually moving. The chapel is small, but beautiful. The views from the outside of the chapel are stunning. There were golf carts going back and forth from the parking lot to help those individuals that required assistance up the steep incline.

Breath Taking

By J_Ctravel22 |

Perfect spot to see Cathedral, Bell Rock, Trump, praying nuns, and whatever your imagination can see. The church is beautiful and looking up to Jesus in the church is moving. Drive past the first parking lot to avoid an uphill walk or wait for the free golf cart ride (for tips).

Amazing

By darenpadgett76 |

I’m not churchy but the hike up was nice. I didn’t attend the church. But the views around. Are great. It was very busy and hard to find a parking spot. Go early.

Beautiful and peaceful

By Terry B |

Such a beautiful peaceful place. The chapel is very small, but view and the surroundings are breathtaking. My dad has a bad back, and appreciated the folks running golf carts up and down the steep hill to get us close to ramp up to chapel. This was my favorite thing in Sedona.

A treasure

By Campaignguy |

If you are near Sedona, you cannot pass up this incredible and serene treasure built into the mountain side.

The giant crucifix is a wonderful tribute to Christ and a very unique rendition.

The gift shop has many offerings, and the faithful can fill a small vial of holy water.

It’s a short visit but well worth it and free!

The parking is bad but the feeling of being inside is worth the wait.

By Gary G |

The parking situation is terrible and it was really bust so it took us 20 minutes to get through the traffic and get to a parking spot but the inside of the church was amazing. I am not normally a religious person but the layout and crusifix was amazing. It is almost impossible to not feel in awe in such a setting .

Underwhelming …. BUT

By R. Traveler |

This was one of the few underwhelming attractions in our tour of much of AZ.

That said - many of our other attractions were awe inspiring so it’s partially due to the other options around including a separate Frank Lloyd Wright attraction nearby.

You can park on three levels - the top often has spots so I recommend you drive up and check first. A little steep from the lower lots and may be hard for folks in less than good shape or with weight, knee, ankle type issues. That said it’s not a long walk.

It’s a functioning chapel - and the exterior is unique and the e interior impressive. Not overly calming due to the volume of visitors but everyone was polite and we actually talked to quite a few guests.

I do recommend visiting - and it’s free

Beautiful

By larry k |

So wonderful and beautiful views
So worth the trip.
We really felt inspired and awe struck

The walk up to the church is a bit difficult

A nice surprise

By Jonathan L |

I had this on our itinerary based on reviews and recommendations, and while I thought it was going to be over-populated (especially on a Sunday afternoon), it was still very easy to visit. Most of the parking is at the bottom of the hill, but it's not a bad walk up the driveway, and once you get to the top there are lots of places to sit and grab some shade. The gift shop is a crowd pleaser, and the moment of serenity by sitting in the Chapel is worth the visit. There are also some very nice views of the surrounding neighborhoods and distant ranges. It doesn't take long and is a great opportunity for pictures of an iconic location.

Teeny Chapel with a Statue

By Tippegirl2 |

Teeny chapel with an amazing statue of Jesus. Careful when walking in as the kneelers are nailed down and I saw a woman trim and fall on them. Take the time to question the volunteers or get the book on the statue. There is much more to this statue than meets the eye. Look closely.

Peaceful Chapel

By DLP |

The architecture is amazing and the views are stunning. Built right into the red rocks of Sedona. The chapel is small but beautiful. A rather large gift shop in the basement that is worth a glance. The parking can be challenging and the walk up steep but there were golf carts running when we were there to assist people. An amazing little Chapel built right in to the gorgeous red rocks of Sedona and it is a sight that should not be missed.

Free, but limited parking.

By andres c |

It's always a treat coming to the Chapel of the Holy Cross. We were thankful to get a good parking spot, but do realize that parking is limited. Make sure to check out "the basement" when you get there. Bring plenty of water as it is hot inside the chapel.

Beautiful Church built into hillside- great visit

By Kristie P |

For this tour, we were able to pull directly into their parking lot and had a short walk up to the Church. You could spend a few minutes here to see it or spend a bit of time inside the Church for a more spiritual connection, whatever you desire. This was a great visit for us.

Beautiful But Awful Parking

By Susan H |

Beautiful site but my rating is based on road conditions and because parking can prevent you from enjoying the site. So limited and so narrow…. If you really want to enjoy Sedona, and have a bigger vehicle (We have a dually) I recommend a bus tour! The place was crazy in May on a Tuesday even for “normal sized vehicles”! I can’t imagine what it’s like on weekends at peak season!

Unbelievable view

By mshea70 |

Lots of photos were taken up top of the mountain outside of the tiny chapel. Aerial view of entire area from here.

Beautiful and peaceful

By MareeC |

Beautiful chapel with amazing crucifix. AMAZING views and photo ops. We visited the gift store and found many items to buy. It's a short hike uphill from the parking lot. Go early because it gets crowded. Also no bathrooms. Only a port a pot at parking spot.

Beautiful spiritual spot!

By Mrs.Coop |

We were so happy to stop here. Not only do you get sweeping beautiful views but walking inside you just feel so good! My husband loved it here as well, and was so glad we stopped. They have a gift shop underneath the chapel. We got an ornament for our free and gifts for the family. They were also offering rides up and down the hill for older folks which I thought was very kind!!

Totally worth the visit.

By Kandmloomis L |

We visited mid week and it was not very busy at all. They have golf carts to drive you up the hill if you do not park close to the chapel. Totally worth the visit, it doesn’t take long and has some nice views from there. We did take a brief hike down Chapel Trail. The trail head is very close to the chapel and a very enjoyable walk.

Unique but busy and crowded

By TimGinMN |

Really a unique and picturesque place. Extremely busy even on a Tuesday afternoon. We took a local bus tour so we got dropped off at the top and didn’t have to park. Park was a mess and long lines to get a spot.
Recommend a tour bus, but the one thing not good about that was it didn’t stop below the chapel so we could get pictures from that viewpoint.

Sedona Must See??

By WisTrippers |

Interesting architecture, but the interior of the chapel was a bit underwhelming (although the view was awesome).

Beautiful…. But crazy busy

By Mary K |

Beautiful church, just was not very reverent when we were there. Lots of visitors and NOISE! Wanted some quiet time to reflect on the surroundings. Parking is definitely an issue. Parked on a side street and walked almost a mile. Worth the visit if you are in Sedona.

Must see site!

By Dave |

BEAUTIFUL !!! Parking can be a challenge, very busy on Sunday. Do NOT ride your Harley to the top, park at bottom. Lots of switchbacks in SLOW traffic. Guys with golf carts are available to take you to the top. Catholic services inside. Vistas from the top are amazing!

Not a worthwhile stop

By Bruce B |

We couldn't access the inside during our trip, it's surrounded by a residential community (which you don't realize from the photos online), and it isn't as impressive in person as I expected.

Great church with beautiful views

By Nicole B |

The chapel was built on a small mountain/hill and is not recognizable as such at first glance. The view is great. The atmosphere of the church is impressive. There is a small shuttle as there are so few parking spaces directly below the church. It is best to park and run directly below or use shuttle.

Just Beautiful!

By BritishAmerican92 |

So glad we stopped to visit the Chapel of the Holy Cross. It is absolutely beautiful! Parking is limited and you really don't need more than about 20 minutes there. Definitely worth the detour though on our drive into Sedona!

Beautiful church…..

By Ladybug |

Very crowded. Lots of people. The parking lot is packed. Not sure what all the excitement is about. You can get a thrilling view driving up 179. Every turnout leaves you speechless. The red rock structures are amazing. Maybe give this tourist attraction a drive-by.

A beautiful site

By Tammy S |

This church is beautiful and parking is limited. There is parking on the bottom and alot if you drive to the top there is more parking. This church has a lot of people visiting so Patience is helpful. The view is breathtaking and so worth seeing if you are in the Sedona area.

Jesus is THE Rock

By Jonathan T |

This is worth a visit if in the Sedona area. It is stunning architecture within stunning natural rocks. One must walk up to it after parking--perhaps at the bottom of the hill--unless he/she catches a ride on a golf cart. The outer area provides nice views of the surrounding red rocks and the interior is quite lovely. They have a gift shop if one desires, but no restrooms; there are 2 portable ones down the road.

amazing

By anniehaz59 |

An amazing sight to see. On the side of the mountain. An actual active catholic church with a beautiful sculpture of Christ.
A must see!!!

Quick stop

By vacationgrl2010 |

We stopped here after doing Cathedral Rock hike. Quick stop for pictures. Not a lot to see but special all the same. We found parking just below the chapel and it’s a quick walk up.

Unique setting for a special chapel

By Barry M |

The chapel is built on Coconino National Forest land and is situated between two natural stone spires, this small chapel is architecturally and spiritually inspiring (no pun intended). Limited parking, but the chapel personnel provide golf cart rides from the parking areas up to the chapel entrance. The chapel was completed in 1956.
The large crucifix, added in 2018, in the interior of the chapel is the focal point once you enter the church.
The gift shop is very impressive.
This is a functioning Catholic Church with several weekly masses, check their website for service times.

Come one and all…

By kbkhkh |

We drove to this chapel after climbing up the Cathedral Rocks, so I wasn’t sure that I can walk another step. This is a slight walk up hill. When we arrived, I just couldn’t turn back. I had to make it to the chapel. What a mastermind of a person who built this. There’s some energy that I felt when I entered the chapel - it’s inviting - cleansing - mesmerizing views. A must visit.

A Different Church With Views

By Oldjack |

The church is very interesting in a spectacular location. Go up there for the great views of red rock country as there is nothing better in Sedona

Enjoy the amazing rock formations on the way to the chapel.

By Maria P |

Driving to the chapel was as amazing as the chapel, itself. It is a small, but easy hike up from the parking area, which sets the mood. The views are incredible, as is the architecture. It is truly a sight to experience.

Catholic Church is spectacular setting

By Noel78 |

This is a Catholic Church. Services are held here on a regular basis, but, unfortunately, it has been turned into a tourist trap. I was here years ago before they installed the crucifix. Frankly, the space was much more dramatic without that, but the faithful probably love it.

Expect crowded conditions and parking issues. There is a gift shop in the lower level. Truthfully, unless one is a Catholic, I don’t think a visit here will be worth your time.

add this place to your itinerary

By Anne B |

What a tranquil spot to stop and collect your thoughts an experience the serenity of this beautiful chapel. And let us not forget the breathtaking views of the surrounding area.

Scenic View, Easy Access

By Soul Purpose Travel |

Beautiful Chapel over looking Sedona - Very easy to get to, parking accessible and an easy walk up to the chapel!

Magnificent place

By Nikolai Grigoriev |

No matter what do you think about the religion, this place is worth the visit. Such a unique combination of the modern architecture, history and the nature.

You may not be able to park right at the top, but I would not bother. Get as close as you can, park on one of the parking lots after the gate and walk up. There is also a little trail on the side of the road. The walk is not that difficult and there is enough breeze to cool you.

From the top, the view is breathtaking, especially if you are visiting Arizona for the first time, like we did.

This is a real chapel so be respectful when inside.

The gift shop is, in fact, not bad and there are lots of souvenirs to choose from.

A Must See!

By Madonna C |

This chapel is an Amazing place! We attended adoration, benediction and Mass on Friday afternoon. The priest there is so full of love, it radiates from him! The architecture is impressive and of course the environment is awe inspiring! This is a must see when in Sedona!!

Worth seeing

By rpmadison2016 |

This is not to miss. Try to go during an off-time. We went around 3pm on a weekday and took others' recommendations to drive past open parking spots and get closer to the top - we ended up finding something easily. If you do park toward the bottom, wait for a golf cart to come and get you. The walk up and the views are incredible. Great photo ops. The church itself and gift shop are very crowded, but the view is worth the trip.

Blessed Times

By budzy829 |

Your feet will lead you to where your ❤️ is... on every trip we make, I always say a little prayer for the blessing, guidance and protection. You don't see us attend mass every Sunday but we pray in private. To be there, surrounded by everything naturally beautiful, visiting the #ChapelOfTheHolyCross was not jiust to say our thanks for the 22 years we've spent together, but to say thank you for the years to come.

Must See in Sedona

By Rhonda W |

The view from the chapel is amazing. Be sure and drive up to the top parking area. Inside the chapel is peaceful and beautiful. Easily accessible so this is a must see when in Sedona.

Don’t miss this!

By Carrie C |

We parked along the side of the road leading up to the chapel parking lot. The walk up is steep but beautiful… a different breathtaking view around every turn. The chapel itself is nice and peaceful, even with crowds.

Cool Experience but Park as Close as You Can

By Leilah |

Very cool experience with beautiful views. Try to park as high as you can. The walk up is very hard. There are golf carts to take you up and down, too. Would not recommend walking up!

Favorite Stop in Sedona

By SavageMadre |

A must-see while in Sedona. Ample parking, although it gets crowded. We parked at the bottom of the hill and were excited to see golf cart shuttles to the Chapel. It was nice to have a few dollars to tip the driver, although not expected. Motorists should slow down on the bends- if you are walking to the Chapel from the lower lot, be aware. The Chapel is exquisite. You can pay a few dollars to light candle(s) (one day or three day options). The Crucifix, The Stations of the Cross, and the artwork within the Chapel are beautiful. There is a wonderful gift shop underneath the Chapel with some local artisan work, and a variety of items from Christmas ornaments, to artwork, to other lovely souvenirs. The ladies at the register were so friendly and helpful. Everyone inside the Chapel was respectful and quiet. Many people pray while seated or kneeling. It was okay to take photos quietly inside. Visiting this Chapel was a very moving and holy experience for me. Beautiful outdoor views, too! Don't forget to sign the guest book upon entering. You should not feel like this Chapel is only for Catholic visitors. All are welcome!

Spectacular! Well worth a visit.

By JB Traveller |

Thankfully a friend told me to visit Sedona at the last minute, resulting in us squeezing it into our Arizona road trip.
I wish we had more time to spend here as the scenery is so amazing.
And this chapel perched up on the side of the hill is a real gem. One of our favourite for the entire trip.

WOW what a place

By EAN44 |

This is truly a beautiful and serine place to visit high in the mountains and so quiet. Car parking is difficult but they offer shuttle services on golf buggies to top, you will still have to walk steps and a winding slope to get to chapel, but very much worth it

The views are phenomenal car parking is to wait for a space until they become free

Pretty view and beautiful chapel, but super busy.

By Michele K |

The parking here was a nightmare. There were so many people. Maybe it was because it was a Sunday over Memorial weekend, but really it was the most people we saw all weekend. Short walk up a windy hill to some nice views.

Unexpected Gem

By BenKole |

This is a very small chapel but WOW! Visually amazing! You can see this site in 20 minutes because there isn't much besides the chapel and view but so worth it. A must see!

Beautiful church in the red rock mountain.

By froglag |

Unfortunately the day we drove to see the beautiful church the parking lot was full and there was no street parking so we got as close as we could. But was happy we did get to see it.

This place was simply amazing. The peace I got from being there was tranquil, as if I’d stepped into a cloud of Heaven myself.

Church of the Holy Cross

By Kate S |

The chapel was beautiful the experience was mystical the energy was palpable we went back twice we even went at night as the sun was setting and the pictures are gorgeous

Stunning and Sacred

Really unique chapel with history and significance. A spiritual experience for sure. A must see when you are in Sedona!

Scenic and holy

Scenic and holy place. However, be prepared to encounter parking issues. There are some golf carts transportation available (free) in case you could not park near the chapel. The view from and around the chapel was spectacular.

Awesome Catholic Church

By Trail298308 |

Awesome views and beautiful Catholic Church built into the canyon! There is parking closer to the church for those that can't hike to the top.

CROWDED!

By hinhankola |

Be ready to spend lots of time getting in here and moving around inside, its like Disney or niagara Falls… people everywhere! Worth it though! Has a pretty cool history and a nice gift shop.

Beautiful. Too crowded.

By Steve S |

A well known architectural marvel proudly overlooking Sedona suburbs. Small, it could only seat a few tens, but that isn’t important. It misses a star because parking is most inadequate for the crowds.

A beautiful place to pray or just say hi to God!

By GManEagle |

A beautiful setting for some wonderful architecture that is a tribute to our Catholic faith and all of Christianity. Praise God!

Chapel.

Great visit.
Beautiful views. Good hiking in the area. Need to wrap up warm in the winter months and wear comfortable shoes.
Nice little gift shop.

Pretty, but not amazing

We stopped on the way back from our cathedral rock hike, and sat for a few minutes in the church before leaving. Driving by it on the highway was enough, I feel like we didn't need to stop to visit.

More Than A Place of Worship

By Aditi P |

Serene and spiritual it's a place to find your soul. Peaceful. The views are fabulous. Try going when it's not too crowded. We were there at 2pm. There is parking all the way up near the entrance. There are also little buggies that take you up.

Lovely, church provides rides to the upper mesa

By Cindy P |

Definitely worth visiting. The inside of the church is even more beautiful than the exterior. Great to hike up or take a ride in a golf cart driven by a church member.

Breathtakingly beautiful

We went here around 9am and while it was definitely busy, we had no problem finding a parking place near the chapel. If you are lucky, a place will open up in front of you because people were parking way down the hill and hiking up, but we saw people leaving continuously. There is a long ramp that would allow a wheelchair to get up easily. The chapel and deck surrounding it are just stunning. The small garden (mostly pots) is well kept.

Inside the chapel, if you are looking for a truly spiritual experience, walk up to the altar, stand in the feet impression on the floor and look up at the crucifix. Unlike most crucifixes, Jesus has his eyes open, and when you stand there it feels like you are looking right into his eyes.

Beautiful chapel and area surrounding.

February is off season and a perfect time to visit! No crowds! Parked near chapel and were able to stand in certain place in front of alter and see Jesus looking down at you. This does not take long, it is not a large chapel and we were in and out but this was also due to no crowds.

Lovely Chapel

By njoireading247 |

This is a very small chapel that has been built into the rock. You need to google it so you understand who created the vision and how it was built. There is very little parking so either take the shuttle or have patience. It doesn't take long here but it is certainly worth the side trip.

Beautiful Place to Reflex

By HunBabe |

This is a beautiful and unique church. But if a climb from the parking lot on paved road leading up to the church. Golf cart shuttle may be available for those who need it. Give yourself a little extra time to reflex here.

A chapel surrounded by red soil

By maibe |

This is an active chapel surrounded by red rocks. The view is great, and you can see other vortexes.
The inside of the chapel is solemn. There were people praying.
There is a gift shop, but there are no toilets, so it's best to use the toilet beforehand.
Our guide said it gets crowded in the afternoon, so it's best to go in the morning. If you are renting a car, there is a parking lot right next to the church that can accommodate several cars, but it seems to be always full, so you can park in a parking lot a little further down. However, that parking lot is also small, so you may have to wait for a parking spot during the tourist season.

Unique things to see

Worth the trip and great views. Really unique attraction in an unexpected setting. We really enjoyed this. Look into hiking around that area too for more fun.

Take the Time to Visit

By AnitaS484 |

Beautiful, spiritual space with awesome views. Park tight. If you do need a handicap spot there are a few at the top of the hill next to the chapel. Also golf carters available to shuttle visitors up from lower parking lots. Not too bad of a walk up to the chapel. Nicely done gift shop below the chapel.

Beautiful prayerful experience

By pablucho35 |

Stunning architectural gem. What I enjoyed the most was that as we reached the chapel, we realized it was a fully functioning Catholic Church. There were people there welcoming guests, and offering information about the Church. I thought it'd just be a touristy place, but it was a place of prayer and meditation. Great to see.

A place of peace and prayer

By Sunshine |

This is a must see if you are visiting Sedona. Away from the business of the city, once you enter this area, you feel an instant sense of calm and peace. They have go-cart shuttles to take you up to the chapel, if you'd like, or you can walk the paved path. The driver of our go-cart shuttle was very knowledgeable and friendly. I agree with what he had told us - the view of Jesus on the cross is so moving. It brought us to tears. When you kneel below the cross and peer up, it is like Jesus looking right down at you. The gift shop has many unique gifts and the staff there are helpful and genuinely friendly. I highly recommend stopping at the Chapel of the Holy Cross. You will leave with a feeling of peace and love for our Lord.

Come Right at 9

Very cool to see. Parking is crazy around here. People, cars, and golf carts everywhere. Sanctuary is amazing and the views are pristine. Gift shop is busy.

Site that will take about an hour of your day - worth it

By Carol R |

The chapel is so beautiful and serene. The views are also spectular. The walk up can be challenging for some but they do have folks driving around with golf carts to get you up and down the cliff. We were walking when they approached us and asked if we wanted a ride up. We asked how much further and she said we were about 1/2 way up so we took the ride. (of course this comes with providing a tip). It's not a stop that will take a lot of time out of your day but I would definitely recommend stopping for the hour it takes to see the chapel. Parking is a bit of a challenge. We heard that that parking fills up quickly (and we went as it was opening up at 9AM) but we saw cars parking way below the hill so we grabbed a spot but it was a long walk.
