Fab building full of history, very cool.

By Sarah D |

Really enjoyed our time in Chelsea market. Loved its features and the information of its history. Was excited to find out this is where Oreo’s originated!! Some great shops, which surprisingly were cheaper than other sites in the street. As we were leaving, the greeter advised us to pop over the road to the pier to the free outdoor roof area. We wouldn’t have known to do this otherwise. Thank you.

Un tour a Chelsea Market

By Cristina T |

Absolutely not to be missed. Clothing and grocery stores. Wide choice of eating spots. Then ice cream for a sweet break and well organized and clean toilet.
We returned several times throughout the week.

A beautiful, closed market

By Johnny B |

The old biscuit factory has been transformed into an indoor market with many options for eating and buying food, as well as souvenirs

DISCOVERY

By KIKO REUS |

We certainly loved it.
It has a great offer and variety of gastronomic offers.
We chose the ground floor to eat, but we loved everything.
Without a doubt, a highly recommended place to go to eat while taking a walk before or after the High Line.

Fun time

By snoozermoose |

Definitely not the foodie mecca it's made out to be but still a fun time! We especially loved Seed + Mill, and Cull + Pistol. There are some nice shops to check out too.

Definitely lovely place

By uzmelissa |

Chelsea Market offers all the time vibrant food hall and bazaar style and shopping options inside. It still charming, still same, still busy and lovely place.

Mandatory stop and wide choice of food

By GiampaoloM |

Place to visit absolutely, full of places to eat everything from typical American cuisine (great milkshakes) to Italian, Mexican (los tacos) and Asian. There are also currywrust! we stopped for lunch a couple of times always with great satisfaction.

Foodie Oasis in Manhattan.

By Conny Wylie |

Chelsea Market is a food, shopping Hall, office building and television production facility in Manhattans Chelsea district and spans a full city block between 9th & 10th avenue and 15th & 16th streets. I popped in here at the end of my High Line walk.

I ventured into one of my favourite clothing retailer: Anthropologie, and the book-worm in me could not resist a visitation to bookseller: Posman Books. The Chelsea Market is acclaimed as a foodie paradise and that it is, offering a variety of full service restaurants as well as the grab-and-go variety. Everyone was beating down the door at the Takumi eatery so I tried their trendy Asian Fusion Taco.....a great treat. The Chelsea is a unique and invigorating Market.

A lot of choice in food

By CoisDeZweed |

It was a bit crowded but the variety of food is good. I do think that everything here is a little more expensive compared to when you are outside and a little bit off the beaten track.

Interesting wander about

By Sarny |

My husband and I really enjoyed a wander about the various shops; stopped off for cocktails and food from a wide range of available restaurants and on leaving went downstairs to use the toilets and found a salsa session going for anyone that wanted to join in - was really fun!

Food choices galore!

By L2theC |

Loved the Chelsea Market. So many fun options for food/treats! It was so hard to pick. The vibe here was amazing.

A must go to when in nyc

By wvillamil |

This place is great. Lists of good variety and lots of stores to buy everything from clothing, jewelry, home goods and many other items. A few blocks from the Hudson.

Perfumes and colors

By Messere |

We stayed at Lobster Place. The market is worth a visit for the series of different shops and the restaurants that serve food of different origins. We recommend visiting it and then returning along the light line on foot

Indoor food market. Nice to walk through.

By Karrempje |

A covered market with many eateries. Nicely set up and when we were there it was full of Halloween decorations. There is something for everyone. Quick bite or eat while sitting uptight. There are also tables outside.

Great!

By Stephen O |

We did a food tour, which was Okay but not great and not really needed. Its a wonderful place to shop, eat, drink and just wonder around. Highly recommend a visit.

Touristy and expensive

By P001148 |

As soon as you enter, you notice that Chelsea Market is almost exclusively visited by tourists. The prices are accordingly high, even by Manhattan standards. We tried a lobster roll that was very expensive for what we got and then decided to eat somewhere else.

Nice end to a High Line walk

By DevenaK |

Great selection of food and snacks to try! Couple shops have great eclectic items and it's the kind of place you can go back a few times just to try a different cuisine. Great day out is to walk to get there via the High Line.

Excellent dining options on site

By Fabytoti |

Great dining options on site Definitely a place to hang out with friends and family We loved it

Lots to offer but can be busy

By Tom&NikkiTravel |

Plenty of food options and little shops dotted around the market.

Can be easily accessed from the high line just down the steps.

We visited at around 1pm and it was very busy so I would avoid going the at lunchtime if your not keen on crowds

Too crowded, overpriced, mediocre food

By Janice S |

Over crowded- over priced- mediocre food!
The building itself was beautiful. The cobblestone flooring and arch way architecture was magnificent!

Oyster shooters

By deanwebb2016 |

Nice historic building, worth a visit by tourists, as an add on to taking a walk along the High Line. Good option for Brekky or lunch. Easily accessible via the subway and a very short walk to the High Line.
The oyster bar had a good selection of seafood, and we went the oyster shooters. Very good, particularly the Tequila based one. A nice pick me up before the long walk ahead.

Chelsea market hidden gem of new york

By Paul C |

Hidden gem of New York
Busy food market and stalls, very clean and well presented, food unreal and prices in line with the rest of New York, would advise if walking to take the high rise from the edge as see New York from a different angle

GREAT MARKET

By karenCFC |

Great market with lots of different foods to suit everyone. My favorite was the Pizza. Unusual gifts on offer and many bars.

Lovely market for eating and shopping

By Alex C |

The market has it all. It combines the aesthetics of an old factory with the modernity of today's markets. The prices, like anywhere in Manhattan, expensive 🤷. I was left wanting to try the lobster sandwich because where they sold it it had a very strong fishy smell. But that is my defect. I recommend, if only to see it, the market

Owl !

By nono n |

Very nice renovation of the old Nabisco biscuit factory...lots of noise though. Several restaurants have taken over the premises.

Ok but not great

By Paul |

We visited this place after checking it out on youtube. There wasn't as many vendors as we thought and the Taco place had a massive queue so we ended up going into Creamline and had the buffalo chicken burger and the cheese burger washed down by a beer. All in all tasty food and the woman in charge was extra friendly and welcoming.

We would recommend.

Plan On More Time To Visit Than You Might Expect

By John B |

My first visit. But not my last visit. Just plain "Wow". I had no idea. Its like Disneyland for adults. So many things to do and see. I was a bit overwhelmed and I now know to plan on much more time for shopping and eating.

Too busy to enjoy

By Max It Out |

I think we went the wrong time, lunch time on a Saturday, it was so busy it was uncomfortable. However, there are some nice shops and good food choices, I would suggest going at a less peak time, certainly work a visit.

Awesome!

By Amanda F |

Very busy but lots of good food options in one spot! We came right from the high line and it is also very close to the little island. It was decorated very cute for Christmas

A place to stroll and eat

By Andrea Santos |

A unique place to eat and enjoy a stroll. Delights that please everyone. Bookstore, shops, thrift store, fair. A pleasant walk. Take the opportunity to walk around the neighborhood.

Chelsea Market

By alexnico |

Excellent place to discover and enjoy gastronomy. An important thing is to know the neighborhood as well. It's very Boston. Don't miss it.

A gem not to be missed

By Elena |

The former factory has been masterfully preserved, while introducing many new shops/restaurants.
In the central corridor you travel back in time but at the same time you can choose where to eat with wide variety of food, medium-high prices but there is choice for all budgets.
Experience not to be missed, it is close to the highline.

Many food options

By Raquel Reis |

Very large market inside, many food options with places to seat inside, for different times of the day (lunch, brunch, just a drink).

Do miss this!

By Ychill69 |

This is a must do! Walk the High Line, end with something to eat at Chelsea Market. So good! Wonder the fantastic surrounding neighborhood while you are there.

Great shops and restaurants

By Jennifer S |

Indoor market with an artist's "flea market", cute shops, and food of every kind. We enjoyed a delicious lunch at the creperie.

Good shopping and eating

By delagioventu |

Nice mix of a food court and shops, many possibilities to eat, ethnic shops, all indoor, great variety. Crowded of course.

A special atmosphere

By thierrysophie |

A passage from 10th to 9th avenue in New York. The setting is nice and a little timeless, away from the noise. Small organic shop, small original restaurants, a discovery. Don't forget to take a look in the basement!

Very disappointed

By Pippowow |

Total senseless chaos but we had to see it. We went to eat the famous lobster sandwich with shrimp on the side and a drink... astronomical count the sandwich no big deal and the shrimp without any flavor, if you're lucky you sit down otherwise you make do, if you're lucky enough to sit down you eat in the dirt left by others before you... seedy

What a wonderful, eceletic space full of vendors

By PuzzleSolver855 |

So many unique places are suffering vacancies but this place is full of adventure in a beautifully restored building. The location couldn't be better right next to the Hi Line and it was an easy and pleasant walk to it from our hotel at Washington Square. I would come here often if I was local and recommend it on your list of sights. Tip: the history as a Nabisco factory makes it even more fun!

Walking Delight

By Camila M |

We love visiting markets when we travel and this was one of the coolest we've seen around the world. Architecture, historically, and restaurants....
A must-see in NYC, you can also access the High Line. Delightful ride.

Chelsea Market is an indoor eclectic mall

By CraftBeers |

I had several recommendations from friends and co-workers that I had to go to the Chelsea Market. I really didn't know what to expect. I had in mind a farmers market or art fair set up. I was wrong. It's an old brick bakery building converted into a shopping mall.

It may be a little unfair to call it a mall, because this place has charm and character that come from the previous use as a factory. The stores are laid out in a patchwork of nooks and cranny's based on the building layout.

Plan to have lunch or dinner here. Don't got out to eat and then think you will hit the market. Half the stores here are restaurants and wonderful specialty foods. To make the best of this place, come hungry. The other half of the stores are shops you will enjoy exploring. Maybe you will be lucky enough to get a glass window seat to the bakery shop when it's in production.

Fun place. Add this to your list to visit, then plan to walk along the High Line and Little Island

Must Visit

By Andrea & Joshua P |

Lots of food and shopping! Definitely a must to check out when visiting NYC. It got more crowded during the lunch time but still was able to look around. Lots of unique stores. Food was delicious that we bought.

Great shopping in funky environment

By familjen932 |

Fun place for eating and browsing small shops with original, often one of a kind, pieces. Trendy and original designs. Well worth a visit!

Bustling market

By Emma W |

We passed through Chelsea Market early on our way to the Highline, when it was quiet with only a few cafes open. We came back a couple of hours later and it was bustling.

We had lunch at Off Beat, which is Senegalese cuisine and was delicious. We also tried hot sauces at Heatonist and purchased some Hot Ones hot sauces.

Some people say the market is a tourist trap. Sure its full of tourists but there are some really interesting food options.

Nice and top place.

By ramonurmad |

I loved this place. Really recommend having lunch or dinner here: it is not that expensive and you have many variety of food.

Went twice!

By skd22 |

We ended up going here twice. The first time we walked through and looked around and thought it was fun and had some funky spots. the second time we found ourselves back in the area for a boat tour and stopped back in to eat at the Los Tacos restaurant that we had seen before.

Over crowded but great food.

By Angela Martin |

super crowed, not organized at all. very few seats when grabbing something to eat. Food was amazing at the Sicilian pizza place but we had to jockey for seat position.

Chelsea(cattle) market

By Sirah2013 |

So, we decided to visit her on a damp Sunday morning
We had watched plenty of reviews on this place and decided to make the trek. We were disappointed to say the least.
Great if you want to eat, but not so great if you want to shop.
We expected more market stalls/shops, really not what we expected.

Unmissable

By Bruna - Viajamente |

I loved it! What a beautiful place full of options. We walked around everywhere and ate ice cream. I thought it was very cool. I would definitely come back. Ah, the excellent bathroom, clean, with toilet paper, soap and everything smelling good.

Dining and Shopping

By Ros T |

We visited Chelsea Market mid morning, some shops and restaurants were open but others were getting ready to open at 11am and 12pm. There is a nice mix of specially shops, restaurants serving a range of food and a couple of bars. We had a good hour wandering around the shops and had a nice NYC beer in one of the restaurants. There are toilets on the basement floor but they were very busy.

Warm and different attraction in NY

By Alireza123 |

If you want spending pleasant time in heart of NY , it is a right place. My wife and I planed to spend one hour in The high line and end it up to Chelsea market. Very good combination and highly recommended. We planed to be in Chelsea market for dinner. Lots of choices and most of them were very good.
This market and building has a history that we enjoyed following some posters and signs which was related. Nice interior design. As we were there Saturday night there was a Latin dance event there which made our night.
As far as I have followed since a few years ago
Rank of The high line and Chelsea market as an attraction in NY grew up.

A Lovely Urban Market

By jaseaton |

A terrific urban mall/market with shops, restaurants and more in a trendy part of Manhattan. My son and I took his two oldest (7 and 4) with us looking for baseball hats with NY on them. We weren't successful, but we got all kinds of mileage out of the visit. The kids were JAZZED.

Upscale Food Court

By TravelingSoccerLoon |

Chelsea Market is more of an upscale food court than a market. It does offer a wide range of dining options under one roof. At the same time, you are in a city that also offers a wide range of options around almost every corner. Chelsea Market is extremely popular with tourists and always crowded.

Not before noon

By MX1200 |

Before noon nothing is open it is not worth having breakfast. To visit in the second half of the day.

Cool, quirky and unique

By NatliaCM91 |

Chelsea market is such a vibe!! Cool, quirky and unique!! Lots of lovely places to stop and eat!! Stop by if you get a chance

Wouldnt go again

By molod |

We went as looked large on guidebooks. Very hard to see what ally he fuss is about as seemed to be ab on overpriced and over hyped foodcourt

Whatever Food You Want!

By Sherry S |

I would have enjoyed the experience more if it hadn't been so packed w/ people, but that's what I get for going at lunch time on a holiday week-end! We had Taiwanese Beef Noodles at a Noodle Place and they were reasonably priced, and the serving was too generous to finish. My daughter and I could have split it.
So many markets from pastries to desserts, plus gift shops. I'm glad we went!

Smorgasbord of Culinary Delights

By ThriftyTraveller2018 |

What can we say that has not already been written.... Fabulous Chelsea Market is a must see while in Manhattan - lots of options of food from Italian, Mexican, Asian, Jewish, Caribbean, Japanese, and the list goes on. We tried just three places (1) Los Tacos: we tried the chicken & port tacos which were a hit - do NOT miss out on this one (don't let the lineup fool you, it moves pretty fast and is worth the wait), (2) Very Fresh Noodles - we ate the spicy braised beef noodle in dry style (rather than a soup) and it was tasty but the beef was far too greasy, finished our tasting spree with (3) Espresso Coffee and Sicilian Canoli at Buon Italia. The market was crowded and bustling with a sense of happiness around FOOD and a few places to shop too. Very clean washrooms in the basement level - don't forget to check out both levels. Very little seating space indoors, but plenty of nice tables set up on the sidewalk (with covered roof which we presume was inherited from during the COVID outdoor eating) - we sat outside and enjoyed the NYC hustle and bustle and people watching.

A nice place to take a detour

By marie-christine D |

To discover when returning from the High Line - A surprising interior for purchasing gifts or some food purchases.

A little disappointing!

By 24lorraineS |

Thought it might be an interesting spot however, very busy and hardly worth the effort. Sarabeth's was the best spot. Deserts were fresh and very tasty. Rest was not of interest shops.

A most novel experience for the discerning foodie.

By Imliooper |

The Chelsea Market is virtually across the road from Pier 57 Market which is also a similar concept in that it too converted itself into a food court from its previous usage. However, it would appear that there are more sit down restaurants in Chelsea Market allowing one to enjoy a particular cuisine, should one choose, as different from pick and mix.

Originally Chelsea Market housed the National Biscuit Company (Nabisco) in the 1980s, according to a plaque on site. And all this was of course located in the meat packaging quarter in New York.

The structure is particularly fascinating from an architectural point of view because its period features have not been altered. That means it still has preserved the original stone flooring, brick walls and irregular ceiling/roof. Preservation rather than restoration or alteration appears tip have been the underlying concept in the transformation

Individual independent restaurants thrive and there was no shortage of custom. The place was literally heaving when we went round at lunchtime on a weekday. The range and variety of restaurants and food in offer was so broad that one could have virtually any cuisine, all under a single roof. This made for a most novel experience for the discerning foodie.

Lots of interesting shops and places to eat

By Andreas_aus_B |

This is the home of the Oreo cookie and many interesting shops are located here nowadays. The decor and the atmosphere overall are really great. Opposite is the Highline Park.

A piece of old New York

By Ninni R |

Awesome old market place with cool shops and a few restaurants. Easy to hop into from the highline! One stop shopping experience for sure.

Must visit in New York

By Tina L |

Loved all the little shops and restaurants inside the market. Spacious with so many things to see. Lots of seating areas for tired feet. We ate a Mok Bar a Korean place and it was so good. Boba drinks in the basement was also good.

Be Prepared For Crowds

By Zacatti |

Super great concept - tons of restaurants and shops arranged in a market style building. Plenty of choices to eat and opportunities to eat inside or outside. Give yourself plenty of time to check things out and be ready for line ups. We scored a great place that sat and served us quick - Tiny Feast. It’s tucked away from the high traffic, but don’t let that deter you from trying their great menu and house beer. Friendly staff that checked up on us to make sure we were happy - and we were.

iconic culinary destination in New York

By sanju_222323 |

Chelsea Market is an iconic culinary destination in New York and is considered one of the greatest indoor food and retail marketplaces in the world.

New York is an awesome city for foodies and the Chelsea Market do offers some of the best food. This awesome indoor market is basically a paradise for anyone who loves to eat and try new things. More than 40 stalls are serving up delicious meals from all over the world.

From doughnuts to noodles, tacos, and New York-style pizza, the Chelsea Market has pretty much every kind of food you could dream of! Plus, there are cool boutique stores and a small farmers’ market to check out.

History: Built in the 1890s, Chelsea Market was originally the site of the National Biscuit Company (Nabisco) factory complex. (The famous Oreo cookie was invented and produced here!)

Whilst strolling through the center of Chelsea Market, it’s hard to miss the machine-made wishing well. With water constantly flowing from the pipes it’s a place to close your eyes and make a wish as you chuck your dimes and nickels.

I would recommend visiting Chelsea Market, not only for the incredible selection of foods on offer but also to browse the stalls and soak up the amazing atmosphere of this incredible complex.

Epic

By Hungry Teenager |

The markets have a huge variety of gourmet food quality jewellery clothing and more.highly recommend to tourists and locals

Interesting and fun

By Tawn |

What a fun afternoon. We are at a couple restaurants and the food was good and fairly priced. Lots of shops to choose from if shopping is your thing.

Definitely worth a try

By eja117 |

Liked it a lot. Never saw such good fusion foods. Very interesting place. Decent location, although you sure as heck can't really drive a car there or anything. Liked the water fountain thing. Don't let a little kid get too close to that. A little dark and very crowded at lunch time. So many options it can be difficult to decide.

Gets Crowded

By Wood77 |

Chelsea Market, located across from Google Building has lots of eateries to choose from. There were also number of retail stores ranging from specialty stores, artisan shops, boutiques and emporiums. Also there is one area hosting small local makers selling their creations. Two levels. Does get crowded and noisy. You can go across the street to access The High Line from the Chelsea Market.

Take a lunch break

By Sandra B |

There are people and it's quite noisy but it's worth stopping by for lunch (lots of choice) before walking on the highline which is 5 minutes away on foot

Unmissable

By Max-Leek |

Every time I come to New York I try to go there. Fantastic place with a lot of choice of places where they serve all types of food. Lobsters and seafood are always delicious

not bad

By Davor A |

It's certainly not the thing that thrilled me the most in Manhattan, but it's interesting to visit, there are a lot of people

Great Little Shopping Area

By TarHeel |

I had read about Chelsea Market in a guidebook and thought it would be an interesting place to visit. On our last day in town, we stumbled upon it while walking the Highline. This is definitely the type of cool, unique, local place we like to visit in each city. Some of the stores weren't yet open, but we did pop into some and my wife found a particular toothbrush she was looking for in a Japanese-themed store (sorry, forgot the name). The food hall looked great, too, but we had already had breakfast. I would love to come back one day.

Must visit

By Free Spirit |

We had a good time in Chelsea market, good food options for everyone including vegan and vegetarian. Our teens loved the food options.

Great spot for lunch and shopping

By mga001 |

Great place for lunch. We went on a Saturday afternoon, and it was slammed. Be prepared for crowds and waits. However, it is a very cool place to stop in for some shopping, some lunch or a drink. Plenty of options for everyone.

Great buzz, but extremely crowded

By David J |

Enjoyed our second visit here, this time in the summer. Very crowded, but some great stuff to browse and an excellent selection of eateries.

worth the visit

By fozjon |

this was worth the walk through visit. Some variety in shops but a number of places to eat as well. We snacked at Berlin Currywurst. The guys who work there are friendly enough. Not sure it was the greatest sausage ever or the greatest beer on tap or wine for Happy Hour, but it was all good enough.

Lots of quirky shops & restaurant in reconditioned Manhattan food warehouse

By christopherbO9687MP |

The Chelsea Market. has lots of quirky shops & restaurant in a reconditioned Manhattan Meatpacking District food warehouse. The multiple floors have lots of interesting shops to see, but note that the interior can be crowded on busy weekends. Visiting on a weekday may be a better option.

POP ID DRUNK MEAN EMPLYEE

By Bill T |

I had a very unpleasant experience here. There was this mean lady, around 70years old with red curly hair who pretends to be the "menager" of the POP ID shops, but I think its probably all in her head and she is just a regular vendor. First of all her breath stinked from booze, her nails were dirty and she overcharged me for some jewlery that I wanted to purchase. when I pointed it out to her she made a big scene and called me a thief, she hardly made any sense probably from the heavy drinking she s been doing. Not the kind of experience I was looking for. I d advise the market to watch who they hire.

Disappointment

By Gianluca S |

Stop for lunch with a lot of disappointment, many places but all with very few seats, exaggerated prices and low quality, I do not recommend it for eating

Great visit

By AlexandraFlo |

Was in the area and came by for lunch. Lots of options and great as everyone can pick what they want and eat in the same area. We are at the pizza and dicksons! Both really good!

Fun place, but can be very crowded

By Kim R |

I enjoyed Chelsea market, but please have your expectations in check. There are plenty of food options - some more take out, a few restaurants, lots of Asian and Mexican and bakeries. There are not always places to sit an eat the food, however. If you go over lunch it is very crowded. I expected more shops and was disappointed when there seemed to be more eateries than places to shop. The decor is interesting and I enjoyed the artwork. There were a lot of school field trips bringing the students in for meals when I was there. Caught breakfast the next morning and it was a whole lot less crowded. We saw plenty of security and felt safe. Public restrooms were available. Food was not overpriced. Definitely worth a stop, especially if your group has different tastes.

Incredible choice of quality food and some brilliant locally made goods.

By Paul M |

We went for brunch. The choice was fantastic, the atmosphere, the smells and displays made us so hungry. We had Tacos and Quescadillas at Los Tacos No1. This was so tasty. We then went for a walk on the Little Island park. Then we went to the Lobster Place. The best seafood I have ever seen. We tried oysters, which we have never enjoyed, and these were brilliant, and no need to mask with tabasco or lemon juice.

Remnants of the factory

By lilybt |

It is a commercial facility connected to Hudson Yards by the High Line. It is the site of Nabisco's biscuit factory, and the building is daringly bare of concrete and piping and wiring. It houses various shops that are popular souvenirs and is crowded with tourists.

For both local foodies and international tourists

By Adventure Diva |

Distinctive and diverse shops are here. This market is not your average food hall. It is truly a lively market place for all to enjoy.

In short

By Trilly000 |

I may be a voice out of the chorus but this market didn't drive me crazy! If you expect a market like the one in Barcelona, for example, this is not the right place! The real market should be a collection of stands with street food and not shops with set restaurants

A market on steroids?

By Auntie Reviews |

A really great market of restaurants and shops. You could easily be here for hours sampling different meals as well as working your way round the shops. Worth a visit but be mindful that it is popular and busy. We had the best lobster roll!

Come hungry

By cassiebear90 |

Great! The staff at the doors were heplful and nice. They have a QR code for the map. However the map is just the layout and the title of the store/ eatery’s and doesn’t provide descriptions for anything. Lots of diverse options we walked the market before settling in on the HandRoll bar. Great place lots of history, come hungry and share plates to try the many options of food. Accessible from the Highline and not to far from the Little Island

Excellent Tour Option

By Vinicius S |

A mixture of great places to eat and enjoy loose shops. So unforgettable suggestion is the famous lagoon sandwich that stays in a restaurant inside the complex!

The best sushi in NYC

By Giancarlo M |

Forget about starred restaurants, if you are a fan of sushi (like us) come to the sushi bar inside Chelsea Market.
A few minutes walk from the Metro E station.

Recommended for a quick pass

By LifeofGa8 |

Group of several places offering international food in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York. The place is characteristic and offers a good variety of solutions but it is certainly not among the unmissable places to visit. I had an espresso coffee (unexpectedly excellent) but if you have better things to do, move on…

Lobsterrol at its Best

By Mandrake |

Great food market on the Hudson. It's fun and always worth a visit. Great food in a variety of ways. For us, the Lobster Place was the highlight. 😃👍🏻

Highly recommended

By Christina R |

Worth a visit again and again! Great shops, restaurants and impressive surroundings. Best combined with a visit to the High Line.

Food and shops

By tinaNtravel |

Chelsea Market is an indoor space with a number of food court type of restaurants, bakeries, and shops. It is rather small – you can quickly walk through the entire market, but it is worth a stop inside if you are visiting the Highline. But if you are not in the area, this is not worth a separate stop.

A real Market

By RUBIA S |

This place deserves a visit! It includes good food, cool architecture, a mix of tourists and locals, one of those cool places to visit!

Very disappointed

By David S |

I was expecting this to be like Camden Market in London but it was so disappointing. Much smaller than I was expecting and no real buzz about the place. I can’t recommend.

Awesome place on a sunny day - Stroll to Hudson River

By Onmyway T |

Lucky I researched thia place in London. Otherwise, I would not have found it. A splendid dining and spot to chill and buy souvenirs. Liked it so much that I bought a Chelsea Market umbrella as a souvenir.

Good stroll to the Hudson River too, and in the Meat Packing District with high end shops.

Great Variety and an Easy NYC Stop

By Our Own Path - Kassie and Rick |

Chelsea Market is a great stop when you want variety, energy, and flexibility all in one place. We visited during a very hot summer day, and it was the perfect spot to cool off, wander, and grab food without committing to a full sit-down meal.

There are plenty of options to choose from, which makes it especially easy when everyone wants something different. It’s busy but fun, and a classic NYC experience that works well for all ages.

Always a solid place to stop, and one we’ll continue to return to.

Typical center of mix international restaurants

By espeditobarrucci |

Typical to visit for a culinary stop, in a quiet area between Mid Town and Down Town, inside there are several restaurants and international street food with various menus, I made a stop at a Mexican kiosk where I enjoyed margarita cocktail with spicy jalapeno but good with nachos and some tacos, all delicious. Then I ordered a typical American bagel sandwich with ham and cheese, the sandwich was flavored almost whole grain, very good. There are many restaurants of sea and land, I absolutely recommend a stop, there is also a market to buy various products. Admission is free. Prices average of other American places.

Delight of Place

By Itaninha |

Here you can find everything ! Architecture, culture, gastronomy!
Great for getting out of the obvious by buying different things in NY

Great spot to grab a bite to eat and watch the world go by

By Karen M |

Great start : stop along the high line , food outlets galore many of who seem independent , lovely flea market with quality produce , lots of choice and if toilets could get an award these would win ! We had mayhem sandwiches from and a brownie from Sarah Beth’s which was perfect !

Hidden Gem

By Vicki Lynn B |

Great place. Ate at La Devozione. Get the Mac and cheese pops. They are to die for. The one place where they cook pasta right!

Food court on steroids! Don’t miss it.

I recommend visiting the market. Its a introduction to many different types of products and foods. Only go when you are hungry and want to eat. The vendors that are there are excellent too. But it’s mostly about food! I wouldn’t go if I just had a day or two in the city, but it would definitely be on the “third day” itinerary.

Chelsea Market

By GoVols79 |

I really enjoyed walking around Chelsea Market and seeing all of the unique shops and restaurants. There is such a great variety to choose from and the Halloween themed decorations were a nice touch.

Nice.

By sabina s |

A variety of shops, restaurants and cafes, it is difficult to find a seating place between the dining benches, is near little Island, a place not especially large.

Very pleasant tour

By Tatiana N |

Great tour to do with family and friends. A place full of little shops, thrift stores and restaurants. It's quite crowded, but with a little patience, you can find a table in a restaurant and rest for a while. I recommend Friedman’s restaurant.

Chelsea Market……..

By HolidaymakerfromHove |

Go for a look. Very expensive. Located at the South end of the High Line.

We enjoyed our time here browsing. It was very busy. Lots of places to eat.

Use the be a biscuit factory. Nabisco. Home of the Oreo apparently.

Recommended when in the area.

Long lines

By Jolie J |

Lots of options inside and nice setting, but it was crowded and most places had long lines for the food.

By John M |

Chelsea Market is a foodie mecca, not far from the Whitney Museum. The number of options here is overwhelming. One of our personal favorites is the halva/tahini spot Seed + Mill, which offers soft service ice cream with tahini and halva. The market is usually quite crowded and offers limited seating, so keep that in mind if you are deciding to bring a group here.

nice market

By KappaBet |

Market with several shops of all types and lived-in molot. It is advisable to choose in advance where you want to eat so as not to get lost in the different choices. The rule is that the places with the longest queues are the best. Sliding tails.

Worth a visit!

By Rosane Beatriz Z |

We love this place, pizza in filaga is wonderful. But there are alternatives for all tastes and pockets. Wonderful walk, otimo place for meals after going on the high line, vessel and edge.

If in Chelsea, you must have lunch there

By CWB |

Pretty, historical market in Chelsea. Great many restaurants and businesses inside. I had a stroll around and they maintained the building beautifully.

Fun place with lots to experience

By Sarah F |

The Chelsea Market has lots to see, do, and eat! We walked there on the High Line from Hudson Yards. The walk was beautiful and we saw lots of interesting architecture, so it's definitely a great way to get there.

The market was very busy over the lunch hour on a Friday. It was hard to find a seat outside after we grabbed some Black Seed Bagels sandwiches. There are several options for food. There was also a really cool candy store, but it was packed and we didn't go in.

Chelsea Market Seafood a must!

By DM137145 |

Great selection of shops and places to eat.
You must try the seafood when visiting, it is excellent.
Lobster, Clam Chowder, Oysters ! All tremendous.

Great place for local souvenirs

By KHill7707 |

We had a wonderful afternoon at Chelsea Market last week. We walked down the High Line and had a late lunch at Chote Miya (loved the pani pori; butter chicken was a little spicer then we’re used to). Popped into a few shops and really enjoyed the Artists and Flea Market near the High Line entrance. We bought some of our favorite souvenirs there.

Pretty standard tourist market but fun

By Odisco |

We walked from the other end of the High Line, had lunch and headed over to the little island after a mooch around. If you are looking for a flea market this is not it. But if you want a poke around, some decent food and a space for local makers/artists to sell their wares then this isn’t at all bad. Do make time for the artisan market - it’s good.

normal. Many people

By china t |

nice place, cool. but full of people. You can't even walk. and to eat, you have nowhere to sit. Very nice, but I think I would avoid going on the weekend.
expensive. nice. but full of people. It is to go once and walk along the high lane... end up at hudson yards, and that's it. quick visit.

Busy

By reise3 |

There are plenty of eateries, bars, markets, & shops. Lots of character. We particularly liked the variety at Artists & Fleas - clothing, vinyls, candles, prints, aura photos, jewelry, etc..

Cool shops and so many yummy food options

By WRNL |

So so many food options in market and some beautiful and very unique craft shops. Very busy for a good reason, so some patience required. Might help to have an idea of which food places you’re aiming for as it’s an avenue long and some shops could be missed. Handy covered seating just outside on north and south sides.

MUST EXPERIENCE

By Bonnie A |

Exceptional all the way through! So glad we squeezed this into our trip! From food, to desserts to shopping, this has it all and it is so unique!

Must go!

By nickyta2016 |

Amazing! This place is full of different types of food from hot food to wraps to icecream and cookies

There is variety of food and would recommend going

It can get busy but don’t let that put you off

There is limited seating upstairs

Pleasant afternoon in the city before the theater!

By MusicMan42 |

A great place to sample foods from many different culinary backgrounds. The staff at the establishments we visited were friendly and knowledgeable about their offerings. If you’re looking for a variety of boutique shops, the selection is very limited. We stopped by several food shops/ restaurants including Friedmans Deli and Sarabeth Bakery, both which offered a very enjoyable variety of foods to choose from. A word of advice is to go there when you’re hungry and not just before you’re having a major meal in the city.

Day of heavy rain and covered shelter

By Peridon |

A day of pouring rain took us there... indoor market in the middle of the Meatpacking District and a stone's throw from Google's New York headquarters.
An old renovated factory, someone claimed biscuits (Oreo?)... lots of restaurants inside for every taste and budget.
The prices, obviously, are in line with those of the city so expensive and you can also have your meal there with an imaginary friend (tax + tip almost obligatory)! Even, for a simple draft beer... a tip!
However, it is worth a visit especially if there is bad weather outside.

must see

By RandomTraveller |

Chelsea Market is a lively food hall with a great mix of eats and unique shops. It’s perfect for a quick bite or casual stroll. It’s especially fun around Halloween, when the market gets a festive, spooky vibe

To do!

By alexrhein |

An absolute must! Beautiful and a good selection of good little stores and delicious food corners. Plan a stop at the Highline

Christmas season? Forget about it.

By Vdubtravels |

Attempted the market end of November, it was like they packed all of time square into that place. Not a pleasant experience.

To eat and drink.

By Joaobrito64 |

Very busy place in NYC. Great options for eating and drinking. However, a lot of people compete for each available table.

Market of gastronomic wonders in Chelsea

By Frabapa |

Market of gastronomic wonders in Chelsea, offers a fantastic choice of restaurants, for every taste, cuisine and nation.
We chose Luke' lobster, to taste the renowned lobster sandwiches: sensational!!
Prices are aligned to the level of the big apple, but the quality is great!!

Wonderful shops & helpful people

By Sunshine572210 |

The variety of foods was amazing. Shop personnel were very welcoming, very helpful, n really tried to assist you any way they could.

Fun Food Shopping

By Thomas V |

This is one of the best food markets in Manhattan, and you have several to choose from. It is part of the food shopping as tourism business that has become very popular. Fun to look at the food. Fun to sample. Fun to build a lunch, or even buy some stuff to take home for dinner. Beautiful displays.

Fascinating

By sfraghi2015 |

Worth visiting, especially to stay for lunch or dinner. Meat, oysters, pizza, tacos and many other varieties of food.

Chelsea Market underwhelming

By CanuckAlberta |

We walked the High Line and were looking forward to wandering Chelsea Market and having breakfast but were disappointed as most places open between 10 and 11. Overall the market was much smaller than I expected and quite dark and dingy as well. On the plus side there was plenty of security. I would not hurry back.

Foodmarket

By Mirjam G |

It is a cozy large indoor food market with sales of local artists in a few places.
You can eat anything and at -1 there is also a lot of stuff. We had a slice at the pizzeria and later sat at the seafood hall to eat oysters and sushi. They're making it in front of you. Very nice!

Definitely stop in at Eat Offbeat and at Seed + Mill when you visit this market. So good!

By JohnDeereQueen |

Great market! Lots to look at. I ate at Eat Offbeat and am so glad I did as they had a delicious range of GF and DF food and very welcoming and friendly staff. I bought some chocolate and orange GF and DF halva from Seed + Mill which was extremely moreish. Yum! I wanted to try the chocolates at Li-Lac Chocolates however they dont stock any DF options unfortunately. So pleased I visited this market! Highly recommend!

Magical ✨

By Roses |

Regardless of the time of year, the Chelsea Market retains an energetic festive feeling from its aesthetic to its visitors.
One could easily spend a whole day here. There is just so much to do and see with so many different types of restaurants, stores, etc.
VERY impressive food market and the origin of the Oreo cookie!

Worth a visit

The Chelsea Market offers a great atmosphere and a fantastic selection of delicious food. The sushi and dumplings are particularly recommended. It's definitely worth a visit!

Quite a variety!

This market consists of everything and is a must stop if in the neighbourhood. Food, drink, housewares, crafts......it hosts a variety of goods in a large indoor complex spanning a block.

A food lover's paradise

By EllenAndrade |

Lots of food options, all types of cuisine. It's usually quite full. The bathrooms are on the lower floor. When I went, the elevator wasn't working. I loved meeting you! We get lost with so many options.

to try so many types of cuisine in the same place

By etabeta01 |

I came here to eat at los tacos number one. The market is particular all closed on several levels, and there is an underground floor, they are mostly restaurant and street food. There are plenty of places to eat of all cuisines because the American cuisine does not exist.

The perfect afternoon lunch destination

By Lori B |

Highlight of my first trip to NY, delicious food and a cool atmosphere. The perfect lunch destination in a cool part of town (opposite Google HQ) and near the water (long view to the Statue of Liberty).

Large funky market

By tinylass |

We popped in here for a warm up after a wander around the area in the freezing cold. There are many shops and stalls selling a variety of items. We bought some chocolate bars from A Taste of Economy Candy which we cannot get in the UK and they were all yummy. The market is like an industrial warehouse and is very well done and great to wander around.

A totally different market.

By Grace |

Built on what was a cookie factory, this market is a green gem, a must-see in New York. There are various food businesses, ice cream parlors, coffee makers, drinks and chocolate bars. etc

Chelsea Market

By K.L.D |

Discover Chelsea Market, which is located in an abandoned factory, there are small flower shops, restaurants, the visit is pleasant.

Pretty nice.

By Mélani |

It is a nice market with quite interesting shops and quite a few restaurants to eat but there are a lot of people, it is quite busy.

A UNIQUE market with affordable prices.

By AAlex Bao |

It is a famous public and gastronomic market in NY, located in a former National Biscuit Company (Nabisco) factory building in 1890 and is the place where the Oreo cookie was born. It comprises a group of shops and restaurants located in the Chelsea neighborhood. It offers a variety of food stalls, gourmet shops, handicrafts, bookstores and is a hub of activity with many visitors and tourists every year.

So many choices

By Louis F |

There is a food for everyone at this place whether it’s croissants, burgers, or whatever you want. Great place to go if everyone wants something different.

I loved visiting the Chelsea Market during my Travels to NYC!

By GlobalSonderist |

Chelsea Market is an absolute must-visit for anyone looking to explore the unique and vibrant heart of the city. Nestled in the bustling neighborhood of Chelsea, this indoor market offers a fascinating array of shops, eateries, and artisan stalls that make it a perfect destination for foodies, shoppers, and explorers alike.

Food Court with some nice shops

By DHinWA |

If standing in lines to get a bite to eat and then finding a table to sit down to eat that treat is your bag - you'll love it. The food options were plentiful and tantalizing but I much prefer to sit down at a table and order a meal.

There were a few interesting shops but as tourists we didn't specifically come to NYC to purchase regional treats to fill up our suitcases. And Anthropologie (a chain store) is a dime a dozen so there is no need to purchase their offerings at this small mall.

The neighborhood of Chelsea is wonderful. So, if you do go to the Market, please make it a point to explore the area in general. You will find many more unique shops and restaurants in the blocks surrounding this overhyped food-court/tiny mall.

Pretty awesome place to visit

By Mustravel_365 |

This place is pretty cool, full of eateries and trendy shops BUT don't fall for Google saying it opens at 8am. Only few shops were open in the morning and majority opened up after 11am.
Don't go there early.

Excellent walk for a rainy day

By Paula M |

Excellent choice on a rainy day. Various options of restaurants and shops. Even a museum. Lunch at any of the stalls will be a good choice

Pizza and much more

By Mariangela M |

We had lunch on the fly in this market that represents a true culinary meltin pot
We had a slice of pizza and I must say it was really tasty.
A nice experience at the end of the route along the High Line...

Better than I expected. Worth the stop if you’re in NYC.

By Caged E |

I’ve been to a few food halls in different states/countries and they all have their own vibe - Chelsea market is one of the best I’ve been to. Lots of little restaurants provide a nice sampling of foods from all over the world at affordable prices. Great atmosphere for chatting and people watching. Fun for wandering/exploring if you’re into that.

Cute but nothing exceptional

By la forcella |

It would have a good potential but at present it is latent ... to take a ride but nothing more .. even the food stands could give much more

Nice experience.

By 476jonathann |

Great market, food and stalls. Did as a tour, which I wouldn’t recommend. You need to visit here on your own, explore, have fun and eat too much food.

Preferred Time Out Market across the Brooklyn Bridge, but Chelsea Market is worth a visit, as is the High-line, for walking off too much food.

Heaving Saturday visit!

By Caroline S |

Great place to visit, but Saturday may be the wrong time because it was simply packed with people. Hard to get a spot to eat. So much choice, great atmosphere , well worth a visit. Just pick a better time to go.!

Super Market

By aldabra007 |

Beautiful example of redevelopment of industrial architecture. The old Oreo biscuit factory is transformed into a restaurant area where there are only two or three shops. Everything else is dedicated to food with restaurants of various types and foods from all over the world. The connection between the passage area and the restaurant area is very well done, where some pieces of the old industry have remained intact and qualified. There is a cheerful and never chaotic atmosphere despite the presence of people being notable. Excellent place to visit on rainy or cold days but also absolutely worth trying for a culinary break.

Living History made better

By Stephen O |

A great space and wonderful to see that, with its amazing history, it is not being torn down to build yet another sky scraper. Great place to visit on a damp day, totally under cover, with loads of little shops and places to eat and drink. Not the cheapest place in NY but not super expensive. Great connection to the High Line Park to make a wonderful visit even better.
I would highly recommend you do a Food Tour, a good way to meet people, have a tasting of all the different food available and learn all about the history.

Top 5 in New York:

Unexpectedly beautiful weather in December. Unfortunately the crown was closed that day. There is work in progress on the island, but you hardly notice it.

For all tastes.

By Bianca Blaezer |

The renovated site houses several restaurants, cafeteria, ice cream shop, market and shops. It has options for all tastes and varied values.
Enjoy to spend some time on site, lunch or dinner, take an ice cream, meet the colabs that house the work of various artists and buy different souvenirs

Fun place to eat

Former Nabisco Factory

By David |

For decades, I passed the vast National Biscuit Factory and wondered what could be done with that considerable property. Back then, it was not the most desirable area. Now, it is a massive market with small food establishments and shops. Definitely a good use. great for tourists as everything you can imagine eating is there. Some interesting shops too. Dining outside on the ground level or up be the Highline.

Nice atmosphere for browsing shops and food

By Lilacwheaty |

Plenty to see in here, nice atmosphere.
Worth walking round before choosing eatery, we foolishly opted for fist cake and coffee shop we saw, and missed out on better looking options

It's worth it!!!!

By Curiosity781834 |

Very wide gastronomy, all countries you can imagine, a delight, super worth seeing. The place is very organized worth seeing

Excellent food eateries, but not much sitting down space.

By Bovills55 |

Popped in for a meander and lunch, great assortment, all smelling very fresh. Had lunch an asian fusion mexican type place? V friendly, excellent food and their spiced peach tea was excellent. Not much in the way of shops anymore, all eateries. Toilets are on basement level at the far back.

Surprise find

By Kinasuke |

Chelsea Market, a New York City Attraction
From the name, it's like a laid-back place in a big city.
I thought it was a place where I could shop for souvenirs, but it was past lunchtime,
It was a huge crowd.
It's more like a market than a market.
I was a little scared.
It seemed that more locals came than tourists.
If you are desperate not to get lost and have not read the guidebook and think you can be guided, there are many shops in the basement.
The coordinator will tell you to drive around and wait on the other side, and you can give him a quick guide to the highlights and directions, and then you can go eat.
He gave me time to say,
If you're in trouble, pickpocketing, snatching, or getting into trouble,
She said she was nervous shopping.
It was more than that.
Drink a glass of juice,
I went round and round and out.

Chelsea Market - worth a visit

By Robyn Deverett |

This market was kind of awesome. Lots of food and stores to choose from; you’re only limited by your imagination…and debatably your wallet.

I’m a fan of Miznon, and I loved the seating options in the Chelsea Market location.

I also am a sucker for halva, and thoroughly enjoyed my raspberry halva slice from Seed + Mill.

Worth a visit if you’re in New York for a few days.

Chelsea Market - busy!

Where the Oreo cookie was invented and produced

By Adventure Diva |

This former Nabisco factory complex invented and produced the famed Oreo cookie . The old building was gutted out in the 90s and transformed into a market that is alive and well. It can get crowded quickly so try to go on the off hours when they open in the morning or after lunch.

Touristy but good for a snack.

By orl |

Expensive for what it is but if you wanted a few snacks, pleasant. I went to maki a mano. Delicious sushi and ceviche. Food came quickly so good if in a rush.

Jamaican place good also. Happy hour from 3.30 to 6 so better value then -macncheese, jerk chicken slider and pink colada 27 dollars.

What a wonderful world

I recommend visiting this market after a walk on the High Line. Very different and with lots of good food choice. It is located in the old plant of Nabisco.

Incredible choice in a fun atmosphere

Incredible choice in a fun atmosphere. You can eat anything you can think of, we had French cocktails and incredible Tacos. The building is also beautiful. Amazing range in the various food stores as well.

Nice Covered Point of Sale, lots of places to eat

By Andrea D |

Nice covered Point of Sale, many restaurants and shops. We ate some great, affordable meat downstairs at Dickson's. Going out the back you can then get on the High Line and take a pleasant elevated walk.

A food and craft paradise!

By Nelson C |

New York is rich in restaurants and food courts, but the Chelsea Market is a whole inch above, so I believe! This is my third trip with a visit to this market. The first one was to a Chinese tapa place, where a friend of us, treated us to eating till the stomach said: I can’t go no further.
This August, with relatives from Indiana we tried a varied cuisine space and the outcome was superb. I had two neat shots of cognac from a wide drink menu. Don’t miss it if visiting the city.

Definitely stop by if you're in the area

By David P |

If you're in Chelsea, definitely stop by for the food and shops. The Market also has a great flea-style, pop-up shop with booths hosting different creators and artists, along with their goods. Very cool.

Chealsea Market and High Line Walkway…. New York City

By Lucy Rodríguez |

What a great place to shop; eat; drink and enjoy with adult family and friends. Many options for shopping unique and different things, as to eat and drink. Easy access and security. Fun place to spend the day. From there we walked to the “High Line”…… fabulous. What a great place to walk and enjoy the skyscrapers and just to walk down that beautiful and excellent park…..created from a train station…. Wow amazing to the fullest

Crowded tourist trap

By Robin B |

I was expecting an open air, flea market type setting. This is nothing but an overpriced tourist trap. And it was crowded with people to boot. This was a easy pass for me. We stayed only as long as it took us to find an exit.

I love the Chelsea Market

By dmanyankee |

I love the vibe of the whole market. You need to navigate around the tourists. But once inside the little stores, restaurants or markets you can find very nice treasures.

Lots of shops and food options

By Ellen B |

My daughter and I stopped here while visiting NYC. There are a lot of different shops and places to eat. I suggest a strolling pace to see all the options.
Tacked on at the end was an artists market. We picked up some beautiful art work on NYC street scenes from a local artist and some really beautiful earrings.
As a bonus, there was a pop up designer sample sale and we got some serious bargains. Be on the look out as you walk around, you never know what you’ll find

You’ll Find Something Yummy Here

By CarolynNYC |

Definitely worth a stop off from the Whitney Museum or the High Line (High Line actually passes it, you can get off right there). I went around the holidays, it was a little too crowded and not enough places to sit if you did want to get something to eat, but….lots of yummy looking food choices, and plenty of people had found a perch somewhere to enjoy a quick meal. I filled a basket with utterly unnecessary German Xmas goodies (I’m a sucker for soft gingerbread) at one market, then made my way through the crowd to stare at Curry Wurst from a crew I recognized as having THE BEST brats—I didn;t have anything, but a sweet Australian mom there said they;d just eaten from there and loved it (think: brats with onion/sourkrout, on good bread, with perfect potato salad…). I asked their little boy if he’d liked it, and he gave me a big, catsup speckled smile, as well as a jaunty thumbs up. So you know it;s good. :)

Our favorite for food was the "Lobster Place"!! Delicious food/New England clam chowder , lobster roll .... etc mmmhhh

Disappointing

By Laurence R |

Nice when you do the high line. But it's a bohemian thing: organic markets, Indian, Chinese or Moroccan souvenir shops. In short, we found somewhere to sit in the cool but the prices really put us off.

The Chelsea Market is an insipid tourist trap that is not worth visiting. Anything you can purchase at the Chelsea Market can be bought in virtually any other area of Manhattan for less. We went to Chelsea Market in order to dine at Taco No.1. Also, as we just walked the High Line we were already there.

Good food good accessibility

Brilliant selection

By NICHOLAS T |

This is a fantastic market in the Meatpackers District.

There is a fantastic selection of restaurants, each with its own character and style.

There is indoor and outdoor seating, a convenience store and the venue has been furnished brilliantly.

We enjoyed tacos, lobster rolls, noodles and drinks and loved all of it.

Not really a market

By Keri3485 |

Some good eateries but I thought it would have been more of a market where you could buy fresh vegetables & meats but it was not like that. Still a cool experience but wouldn’t go back.

Worth a Visit for the Architectural History Alone

Lovely architecture / renovation - worth it just to see the building... and that's free. It was worth getting inside for an hour or so just to get out of the heat and humidity! After that you can spend as much or as little as you want in the plentiful shops and restaurants. Did buy a few bits and pieces and got a drink from a cafe. but that was it, wasn't an expensive trip.
Walked down from Hudsons Yard via the High Line to get there - recommend that route as it was a pleasant stroll

Big tings amazing BUT avoid AYEDA

By Suzannah B |

We ate at BIG TINGS the jerk chicken bowl , macaroni cheese was beautiful as was the service. Really recommend 10/10

However we ate at the Thai place AYADA tonight and the red curry was not good, service was appalling and £100 for 2 bowls of stuff floating around in bowls, sausage appetiser (this was ok) and a chicken satay was a rip off and am really annoyed I did the British thing and left a tip. Avoid avoid avoid.

So many options

By Claire G |

Free to enter the building and walk around. Lots of different shops as well as the food hall. So many options I wanted to try it all. Opted for pizza, bagel, tacos & some doughnuts between myself & my 2 children. All were fabulous. Hoping to go back and try something different if time allows on our trip

Too many options with a great atmosphere

By Ragy_R_R |

Very nice atmosphere, lots of options, can't review all restaurants as there are many of them and i have not tried them all, however, the restaurants that I have tried offered very nice food. The korean restaurant offered amazing noodles, despite the extra cuman that they use.

Absolutely amazing market, nestled by the high line. Whatever you want to eat you will find. It’s a great place to be!

By Julie Akusia |

What an amazing market! You are spoiled for choice in terms of food options, whether you want a main feel, lunch, brunch or just a snack and walk. There were also some lovely shops to buy household items and gifts ❤️

Tasty Tacos and Luscious Lobster at Chelsea Market!!

By Andreas Chr 2024 |

Went to the Chelsea Market for brunch and had a magnificent experience visiting all the different stores and eateries. Had tasty Taco’s at Los Tacos and delicious Lobster and Prawns at the Lobster Place. Many quaint and small stores to visit with a fantastic atmosphere.

Very good dining options

By TAP647 |

Good place to dine and shop around. Really like the maker space with local artists. There is something for everyone. A good place to stop before or after walking the High Line.

Great tour of the Chelsea Market

By Justin W |

The Chelsea Market continues to change everytime that I go there. We went for a tour of the market with my class at NYU and it had changed as well as was the same market I first visited in 2002. It has the most interesting set of restaurants that continue to change. Some of the original restaurants are still there but the biggest problem is that they are so expensive. It is such a festive place and the decorations were really nice.

The unusual fountain is still there and the Christmas lights in a arch keeps the market festive. It was fun to walk around and the place was packed. I wondered through the rows of places to eat and I settled on Sarabeth's Bakery which I had been to uptown restaurants and they were always good. The tuna sandwich I had was top notch.

It was fun seeing the changes and what is available. It is a great place to visit when you are visiting Manhattan.

Cool shops and good

By JayWestYy |

A good selection of food and retail. Quite busy on the Sunday afternoon we visited but still ok. Definitely join it up with a walk
On the high line there or back

Not to be missed

By angela0809 |

Open from 7am to 10pm, it is one of the must-see stops on New York holidays. For a few purchases, to drink a beer or eat something, even just to shelter from the rain, wandering freely inside. In the morning all the grocery stores are open, in the evening all the dining rooms. That's great.

Beautiful market

By vale250584 |

Beautiful New York market to happen at lunchtime. We ate delicious bagels, but the choice is wide, including the famous lobster place. Not to be missed

Great variety

By boymomdfw |

Fun place to shop and eat! It wasn't too busy but it was lively. I enjoyed my meal at the lobster place. Saw lots of other good eats too.

It’s all about the food options

By knjabara |

Great food choices. Our favorites were Creamline for milkshakes and Lobster place for oysters, sushi and amazing lobster rolls!

Great food court

By Alejandro0203 |

This building that was a cookie factory was converted into a large food court, which is very varied and very good.
There are also several shops and the place is very well decorated. to have a good time.

Very enjoyable experience

By Traveller |

My wife and I walked around Chelsea Market for a couple of hours during lunchtime in June 2024. It was an enjoyable experience. We had sandwiches at Sarabeth’s Bakery and then got gelato from a gelato place. There were many shops and places to eat. I liked a bookstore near the gelato place. I think Chelsea Market is a very worthwhile place to visit.

Quaint, but overrated

By Phaedra81 |

"Historic" market at the end of High Lane in Chelsea.
In the rush hour really confusing: on the "historic" walls have developed shops and places to eat.
We tried "Lobstar Place," maybe the best: whole lobster for $59, shrimp salad for 15. All tasty.
Stools to eat and lots of confusion.
Also present is a Mexican, a bakery and many options to choose from.

Just ok.

By Melissa T |

Nice but super touristy and over priced. There are better markets that we found just by walking around. Highlights were the Idian street food, the local artist shops and the thrift shop.

Fun Time in Chelsea Market

By Lynda D |

This is such a fun place! The weather was freezing so we spent a couple of hours indoors here with unique, fun food and tons of options! The food court as well as the side restaurants all have good options. We also browsed some eclectic shops and had a great time watching the “robot that makes coffee,” LOL! It is also very clean which is a huge plus. Fun place to wander round if you want to get out of the weather or just be in a place with a cute, festive atmosphere.

This place is AWESOME!

By ressurrection |

I went to The Sherri Show and decided to enjoy New York. I was so so happy finding this place. It’s a must do if you’re in the area. Make sure you have funds to shop because you will have a hard time no going bananas. I’m going back again soon!! ♥️

Amazing discovery

By C Walker |

Hidden gem! We stumbled across Chelsea Market on the way to Hudson Yards and the High Line. Great vibe, great shops, food and drink. Well worth a visit.

A gastronomic tour

By ellepi67 |

You can spend a morning wandering around the various shops, pizzerias and restaurants. You can taste products from all countries. Well organized with live music.

Lively market

By RIchard035 |

Chelsea Market is a large market with lots of places to eat, serving a variety of different types of food, as well as a flea market and various stores selling pictures, clothing, sunglasses, etc. A good place to stop for lunch or to browse round the stalls and stores.

Def recommend a visit

By Debra A |

Very busy but fab place... we went twice !! Once of the best places to visit in New York wish I could go every Sat and mooch around then get something to eat .. a happy place !!

Meatpacking district

By casey |

I loved Chelsea market not just for the shopping which is great, lots of places to shop and to eat but for me I loved walking around and seeing all the original features of the once biscuit factory. This is a must visit when in the meatpacking district.

Never Gets Old

By aavct90 |

I love this market - there are a million food options. Asian, tahini soft serve, sweet like fudge, italian, burgers...I could keep going. Everything is high quality and I think the prices are quite reasonable given the location. They also have some fun clothing and grocery shopping if you want to bring something home. I think this is a must do if vacationing in NYC.

Definitely worth a visit!

By Connector22164841071 |

Exciting and lively place with a lot of delicious restaurants of really good quality. Cozy bookstore and other stores that emmer of good mood.

Nothing special in NYC

By Cristiano C |

Very crowded place in NYC with overpriced stops for food and shops of useless goods very limited access to restrooms

Highline and Chelsea Market are the perfect combo

By GlasgowWriter |

Walked along the highline to get here, and found the place to be incredibly cool. The flea market had some excellent vendors with unique items, while the food stalls were varied if a bit pricey.

Busy, Trendy Shopping

By LexiV |

It's crazy busy in here, but there are some fun shops and deals to be had. Pearl River Mart and Economy Candy were our favorites. All of the food options in here are insanely overpriced but there's a great diner (Star on 18) just a two-minute walk away.

overrated and very busy

By Theo V |

The Chelsea market once was a nice experience. Nowadays, it is crowded and more of a tourist trap then the market it once sort of was. Still, if you haven't been there, you have to go. Be aware that it is OK, not excellent.

Lots to see

By PeepJC |

Unfortunately I didn't have a lot of time to explore or eat here but what I got to see was really cool. I love old industry buildings that have been turned into modern places to shop, eat and drink in. This one has so many interesting pieces to see to keep the feel of the original factory going. I loved my short exploration of the market and I look forward to returning on a future visit to NYC.

Well worth a visit if you like good food

By rockstaff |

If you like great food, lots of choice and a really cool atmosphere, make sure you visit this market.

We like good food, so we visited this place twice during our short stay.

The noodle bar in particular was awesome

Very busy but unique

By tinylass |

Great place to visit for shops or to get some food. There is a sweet shop that sells all American sweets which was great. The market was dressed up for Halloween and the decor was awesome! It was very busy when we visited but it was a Sunday.

Great Food Selections

By LS_GoingPlaces |

Every kind of food imaginable offered here. We enjoyed delicious Taiwanese noodle soup and a beer. Lots of options for even the pickiest of eaters. And there's a nice outdoor space available to sit and take your time eating while people watching, The building itself is also amazing to look at. Some may say it's a tourist trap but see it for what it is - a beautiful building full of food options.

A huge disappintment

By NatSteveC |

I was really looking forward to visiting the Chelsea Market as we did not get chance the last time we visited New York.
However, I really wish that we had not bothered. It was not what I expected at all. We’ve visited food markets all over the US and this was probably the worst one yet. It is overpriced and despite the decor being cool, the hype ended there for me. We struggled to find anywhere for a decent breakfast and the place we did finally settle on, well I’ve had a better sandwich at Greggs in the UK for a fraction of the price. I really don’t get the hype around this place and expected so much more. I definitely wont be returning.

Chelsea Market: A Foodie’s Paradise

By A. Tennyson |

Chelsea Market is a must-visit for anyone who loves fresh food and exploring unique shops. It’s the city’s version of an upscale farmers market, with many stores and plenty of options—you’ll definitely want to set aside at least two hours to see everything. The market spans two floors, with plenty of seating scattered throughout for eating, snacking, or just hanging out.
We wanted to try a lot of the food, but there were just too many tempting options! One highlight was the gelato—it was amazing, especially the dark chocolate, and very comparable to what you’d get in Europe. Overall, Chelsea Market is a vibrant, flavorful spot that’s perfect for food lovers and anyone looking to soak up a lively city atmosphere.

Exciting Chelsea Market

By Dimitris L |

Chelsea Market is an exciting place to go. We visited and spent several hours just walking and looking around and having fun! There many shops of all descriptions, from meat shops, to grocery shops, fresh produce, and the all important "tourist" type of shops! And of course there are food shops, restaurants and bars! We walked the High Line and at the end of it walked straight into Chelsea Market. Not to be missed on any visit to the city!

Huge Indoor Market Downtown

By JamieJW |

Vast indoor market, such a fun spot filled with any shops and restaurants, you can spend hours just wandering around.

Beautifully decorated for the holidays, it was a pleasure to stroll through all the hallways and end up with pizza for lunch.

The market is fun in the summer but amazing during the holidays.

Amazing foodie spot

By Ashley |

Brilliant food hall built within an old biscuit factory where Oreo’s were first invented. Huge variety of different foods such as bagels, tacos, Mediterranean, ice creams, cocktails, Japanese, doughnuts, and many more. We enjoyed the black seed bagels and los tacos #1 which are both highly rated places to eat in the area. Would definitely recommend for a lunch - get there as soon as it opens as some places build long queues quite quick.

Nice stop off the high line

By mjc_travels |

We stopped in for a hot drink after walking on the high line. It was as quite busy with people eating lunch but we found a pastry cafe and it was quiet. The tea was great and we were in our way. We did check out the maker space before proceeding. Very nice vibe.

Cool indoor market with varied eating options

By BronteBucket |

A fantastic (and huge) space in an old biscuit factory. Some arty shops and lots of eatery outlets all set out amidst exposed brick walls, wrought iron girders and fairy lights. We walked the floor first to see what was on offer and then settled on a Mediterranean food outlet called Miznon. Managed to get seated quickly at a high table. Tucked into a delicious falafel burger with green chilli sauce - everything about it was fantastic. If it wasn’t so filling I would have gone back for a second! My husband was similarly complementary about his lamb kofta pitta. I understand from a friend that the market can get super busy but it wasn’t too bad on a Winter’s day in February!

Characteristic Point of Sale of NYC, high prices compared to average.

By Ivan_recensioni_1996 |

Quaint NYC Point of Sale full of grocery stores. The flaws were: high price ranges and a lot of crowding. We recommend visiting at off-peak times.

Seed & Mill

By Stan Tecza |

Lots of choices. I gravitated towards Halavah at Seed & Mill. Bought four 1/4 pound sized packages for $8 each plus sesame 1/4 pound for free but can see coming back and buying 1/2 pound for $12. Lots of stuff in market m, chocolates, meats, pastries, noodles, hot sauce, dumplings and more.

Amazing place

By Raffaellaglemann |

What an amazing place . Lots restaurants with all kind of food to eat . Such a trendy hip place to go for dinner . Very safe area and easy to get there

Sensory overload - in a good way!

By DJ U |

Chelsea Market did not disappoint on our visit. On Saturday afternoon, it was filled with people and the vibe was great! So many culinary options, unique market finds, and more! Beautifully decorated for Fall and Halloween, CM proved to be well worth the trip.

Really nice food market

By Mer21maid |

Very nice and crowded place with lots of great food of all kinds. Nice that you can sit at the benches outside with your food.

Exploring Chelsie Market!

By Marisol |

It’s an exiting place that mix the incredible culinary offerings with a boutique shopping experience in a space that honor history and architecture bringing an innovative approach with incredible atmosphere!!! You need to…
Eat, drink, shop, explore and have a blast with your discoveries!! Every corner unique, every detail within a beautifully repurposed historic building. Have fun!!! Don’t miss is it!!

Market to lose

By Vito L |

Beautiful and particular market not to be missed. You can taste everything and for all tastes. We sat at No 87 and ate really well. Great fried chicken with waffel underneath and cheese

The Chelsea Market is a definite stop to make in NYC

By Suzanne B |

The Chelsea Market was seriously an unexpected highlight to this trip. My daughter and I were absolutely thrilled being there. Great local artisans and wonderful food. We overheard someone say it was extremely crowded when we were there, a local perhaps. It didn’t feel crowded. Lots to do, taste and experience. We bought all souvenirs there. This market is definitely a must!

Wonderful repurposing of old Nabisco factory

By MichiganMom71 |

We wandered around the market on a Sunday evening, so not much beyond food was open, but it was a very neat building. I can imagine the shops are unique and fun as well. I loved seeing the history of the place displayed on the walls throughout the market as well as the original walls and floors exposed with some water features as well. Definitely worth a visit.

Don't miss this on your visit to NYC

By Vicky C |

Amazing choices for food and some incredible shopping too. Don't miss the section at the end.with all indy traders.

not to be missed

By Stefano M |

a large shopping mall where you can find a bit of everything.

Very crowded, prices are high by our standards, but if there are sales you can find good things at affordable prices.

Great food!

By Kdawg282 |

I cannot believe we have never done this, it was amazing! A collection of shops and food that everyone you bring will enjoy and right next to the high line! Fantastic places to eat! Highly recommend the tacos! The way to eat when visiting the city in my opinion.

Nice, but not that big and pretty packed

By I put my towel out early |

We went for lunch on a Saturday while it was raining outside - so pretty much worst case scenario, and it was indeed very full. Good mix of food and merchandise stores, but not a huge selection, after ca. half an hour you've seen everything. We liked the restaurant we chose for lunch, Friedman's, one of the few sit-down places with table service.

Many feeding options

By Diorgenes P. Trajano |

Many feeding options, for all tastes and "pockets". I had lunch several times in different restaurants and all were very good.

Cool location, no complete enthusiasm

By Julietta_078 |

Being in some food markets, I was not quite as enthusiastic now, but this is my personal feeling. The food on offer is varied, but a little confusing.
The location itself is really cool. Conclusion: go to what drink,, have a look- maybe eat outside with less fast food character

The Chelsea Market is a small and a cozy mall, try the delicious Mexican tacos.

By Edison |

The Chelsea Market is a great mall with many restaurants and coffee shops. You can also find delicious Mexican tacos, and order three for each one, you’ll love it.

Chelsea Market, New York City, USA

By Kaan Kuskonmaz |

You can find different cuisines from different parts of the world there, but it was outrageously crowded when I was there.

Popular New York Food Destination

By Boyd J |

The original factory building where the Oreo was born. Now home to hip boutiques etc, cafes, restaurants and take-outs. We went with a friend, a NY resident who says that the place is always crowded. Getting a seat can can be an issue. Interesting and pleased that we went.

As seen on Food Network

By holwal75 |

If you’re a foody and want to go where the food network stars have gone it is a fun stop. Be prepared to wait in line for the food of your choice. There are a few non food related stores. If you’re staying in Manhattan or near time square a taxi or Uber is a must. We walked it. Fun to see the city by foot but in June a rather hot trip

For a quick lunch

By sara f |

Chelsea Market is one of New York's most famous indoor urban markets, located in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan. Housed in a former industrial building (Oreo biscuit factory) it gathers restaurants, bakeries, cafes, artisan shops and numerous food stands from all over the world.
Very popular with tourists and New Yorkers alike, it is the ideal place for a quick lunch, snack, dessert or to sample international specialties.
The atmosphere is lively and creative, characterized by industrial design and corridors animated by scents, colors and places arranged next to each other.

lunch with street food

By Paolo C |

Very special place where you can eat while enjoying different types of food, from pizza to fish. It is very crowded so you have to be patient to queue.

Dive in and let yourself be transported!

By Antonio C |

A multifaceted and lively gastronomic market, this is Chelsea Market! The experience with oysters from all over the world is a lot; I recommend doing it with a good craft beer in hand.

Lot to offer inside

By Daniel L |

Whether you're looking for food or goods, this market probably has what you want. A nice way to spend a bit of time in the afternoon.

To do !!

By AS |

I really liked this place, the fact of choosing your dish from different cultures is very nice.
The portions are not copious and the prices are quite high, like everywhere in New York 🤷🏽‍♀️ but we ate well!!

Closed for business

By Artemary |

Too bad most shops were closed because of the storms, although the storm had cleared for hours before I went there. A really great place to shop and eat and it's not my first visit there.

Beautiful place, lively, nice to eat a little something

By Thibault C |

Very nice place to walk, to eat a little something after doing the High Line which is really a great walk.

Food

By kafioxin |

You have various food options for all tastes. Everything we tried was delicious, some shops had a relatively long wait to order.

Nothing to special

By AZoratti |

I don't think I went on a good day, it was crowded, I didn't see anything very different and I didn't find any attractive place to sit and eat something, we left soon, maybe I'll go back and give the place another chance

Far too chaotic and crowded

By Storia e Vino by Giuseppe Racanelli |

A great location with lots of small restaurants, but a huge mess. It's just too crowded and too narrow. So please, if you're really hungry, you should avoid this place.

Not extraordinary

By Mermoz |

The place is picturesque but ultimately it's just a rather bohemian shopping center. Go there if you're in the neighborhood.

Fantastic market

By Mitek25 |

In the middle of the Meatpacking District, in a large factory building, there is a very large market with many different restaurants and shops. Simply walking around and enjoying yourself is highly recommended.

Great heritage and ambience

By Mattclarkson |

America can turn everything into a tourist saturated theme park experience but NOT in this instance and it is well worth a visit as a result. Chelsea Market is a really impressive building and shopping experience which has retained the ambience and heritage yet made great use of space to include food outlets, supermarkets, bars and shops and the all important free Wi-Fi.

Tactical

By berte14 |

We stopped for lunch while traveling the highline from north to south. It's worth a wander around to have a look at the shops and have something to eat and rest.

Great location but fewer choices than in the past

By Diane B |

Don't go for breakfast. We arrived around 9am on a Saturday in March. Very limited selections for morning dining. It got quite busy around 10am and most of the shops don't open until 11 am. Not enough places to sit either!! Last time I was here was 2016 so was sad to see that a lot of the stalls are now vacant, probably Covid casualties. Sad to see it decline as the space is fabulous. Former Nabisco factory, home to the first Oreo!!

Leuk

By mkunnen63 |

Very nice to walk through here to get some food or drink. Lots of different types of diners. Toilets available and 2 floors where you can stay. With us it just started to rain and that is this a great base to shelter, eat or drink.

The best at Christmas!

By sunnyshine579 |

I loved it at Christmas time! It was super crowded of course but crowds don't bother me. It was full of all kinds of goodies! They have the best seafood. We eat there every trip to NY. I had been to the market before but Christmas is the best time to go in my opinion. SO much to look at.

Put it on the list..

By Travelingwookie1 |

I think this needs to be one of everyone's to-do list for NYC..

It appears to be some sort converted industrial unit, Into a acarde of shops and restaurants..it's a truely wonderful and absolutely should be visited.

Go hungry and hunt for gifts..

Fun food choices and don’t miss the Flea market inside also!

By PepperPikeMom |

Fun area to visit in NYC. Great for any day, but especially for a rainy day. Food and shops. Cool local artist flea market inside also. Visit the High Line walkway, which is just outside and next to the Market. This is in the meat packing district and is a great area to visit!

Very crowded and a bit confusing!

By Patrick |

I think you should see and walk through Chelsea Market at least once! But if you're looking for a proper lunch or dinner, you can easily do that somewhere else. The market is literally overrun with tourists, it's loud, chaotic and there's not much room to sit!

Great for finger food to go, not so great for eating on site!

Excellent neighbourhood

By StephenCross |

The Chelsea Market is part of the vibe of Chelsea in Manhattan. Lots of things going on and a great atmosphere in the market.

A little bit of everything

By Matt S |

As can be expected, Chelsea Market is pretty big....from outside vendors, to two floors of inside vendors. On a Saturday afternoon it was definitely extremely packed; the main level seemed to be a bit more difficult to navigate. We found the lower level to be a bit more sane and inviting, with markets, food outlets, and even a large bar. We went through several stores here, grabbed a quick snack to eat, and even were able to enjoy a coffee while people watching after grabbing a small table on the lower level. Definitely a variety of things to do and see here.

An Indoor Time Capsule

By Tanya T. |

I wouldn't typically include an indoor market on my list of must-see attractions, but accompanying friends to Chelsea Market proved to be an unexpected delight. As we strolled through this historic building, I was impressed with the visual old-world appeal.

The market is in a building that dates back to 1890. There are colorful displays, aromatic food stalls, and the bustling energy of shoppers and curious people.

Our brief visit left me wishing for more time to fully experience all the market has to offer. I recommend this if you looking for something beyond skyscrapers and tours.

Brilliant

By Clare G |

This was our favourite part of our trip , the food is incredible, it’s bustling atmosphere, there is an artisan flea market next door with art, jewellery crafts and a stones throw from the high line which takes you right over to Hudsons yard defo half day well spent
