What a great way to travel...across a bridge with beautiful glass art. Don't miss the bridge when you visit Tacoma.

While crossing over the train tracks to reach the Tacoma Glass Museum you will pass over a bridge with windows of glass objects . This is a wonderful entrance to the museum.

Beautiful bridge. Super cool spot to get pics. The glass sculptures are incredible. It’s a nice spot to take a relaxing stroll.

This is just a bridge over train tracks that has two glass sculptures and then some display cases. If you don't want to go in the glass museum, or happen to be there, this is fine. But the glass museum is much more interesting.

How lucky the city of Tacoma is to have Dale Chihuly, a native son, erecting his beautiful glassworks around various locations in the city. This bridge contains over $3.5 million worth of his glassworks. You will walk across this bridge usually to get to the Glass Museum or the harbor.

You really need to visit in person to appreciate the beauty of the light as it passes through these blown glass installations. You can spend the afternoon here and walk away feeling refreshed by the beauty of these artful creations. Kudos to the curators and respect to Mr. Chihuly and his team!

We were in Tacoma over a weekend and didn't realize that many of the museums were closed on Monday. However, we wanted to see the Bridge of Glass and it did not disappoint.
You walk underneath an entire section of glass and looking up there is so much to see. Once you have exited it there is another section that has large shelves holding many different pieces. If you like Chihuly's work I would highly recommend this place to see. It would definitely be a must see for anyone who is a fan. Even my young children loved looking at the glass and seeing patterns and colors.

The Chilhuly Glass bridge is a long pedestrian bridge in Tacoma, it is a museum that is outside free and open the public. I was there on a sunny afternoon and it was gorgeous, I can only imagine what it would be like at sunset. The exhibition is in the walls and ceiling, of the bridge. It is close to the restaurants downtown and goes to the art museum. Please keep in mind that it is free and open to the public so it is not like an exhibition indoors like that in Seattle. I bring this up because a lady was there complaining that it was not up to her expectations, I asked her how much she paid to see it. Her response was nothing less than rude. I did not make her presence ruin my day and enjoyed the experience that the bridge offers.

The art on this bridge is so cool to look at, we even stopped in the shop and checked it out. We live near the Mayo Clinic in MN and they have some of Chihuly glass hanging in the atrium so that was neat to see. Great view of Mt. Rainier from here too. There was a "bee hive" that was neat to see and the harbor and water feature nearby was fun to walk around in. Free to visit and worth a stop.

I would not classify this as a "place to see" in Tacoma. it is more of a means to get from point A to point B. Nothing more. Nothing less. It served its purpose for me a few times. Not as a site to see, though.

The Chihuly Bridge of Glass was an unexpected surprise and one of coolest things to see in Tacoma. It links between the wonderfully restored Union Station and the Museum of Glass. It is well laid out, has beautiful colors and is even more awesome when lit up at night.

This is a beautiful installation of glass works, making the walk across the bridge, beautiful and enjoyable.

We parked by the Museum of Glass and just walk straight to the bridge after. Amazing artwork along the bridge. Great for photos and selfies.

I love Chihuly's work, and when I found out about the glass bridge I had to see it. I wasn't disappointed. Add the Museum of Glass and the courthouse across the bridge and you've got an wonderful day of glass treasures!

As part of the, aka, connected to the Tacoma Museum of Glass the bridge makes your visit that much more special. His flare and artistry with glass is so special, so unique, once you see Chihuly's work you want to see more of it. He is a gifted artist working in a difficult medium, but gives life and longing to glass.
Enjoy

Interesting. Not necessarily the best place to display this art. But certainly unusual and different.

We stopped on our way through town. It was after business hours, walked up the steps and marveled at the Wall of Chihuly, the Towers and the Ceiling of Chihuly. It was cloudy day but the colors were still vibrant. I can only image how beautiful it would be when the sun is out. This is worth a stop. And it is budget friendly FREE!

Free walk, great views of the city and amazing art!
The multicolor, intricate, glass-pieces filled ceiling was an unexpected treat. Bring your camera and get creative! For us it was a necessarypathway from the history museum to the glass museum, but I am glad we got to see it. Plan on visiting it too!

We were in Tacoma on a girls trip and walked through here after the glass museum. It was beautiful. The view of Tacoma and harbor from here gorgeous plus the glass was really worth walk. Definitely a place to come if you are interested in glass work.

A local treasure, home of our world reknown glass Artist Dale Chihuly. I make a point to see this at least once a year.

The bridge is a part of the complete Chihuli experience here in Tacoma. Do see the museum. It is worth the admission. Enjoy the bridge. there are so many lovely Chihuli works to see here in niches and installed overhead, etc. along with the lovely view of boats in harbor, railway, and Tacoma. Also visit the station and see the lovely works there. all are worth a look.

It’s a regular bridge with lots of glassworks and vases on display on the side. It is worth a look if you are in the area but not worth a special trip. You can view all the displays in 10mins. Park on the street not the garage. It’s cheaper.

This is a walking bridge across the highway that has art behind glass/plastic that is weathering. The glass art is great; however, as a destination, it isn't worth the stop. If added to other things (like any of the museums or Pacific Ave shopping) it is worth the detour - it won't take long.

Good for everyone. A great way to get from the dock street to the main Street (Pacific Ave) in Tacoma. My 1 year old grandson enjoys this walkway as do I and my in-laws. 4 generations of interest. Beautiful.

Do not miss this stroll along the bridge to the Chihuly Glass Museum! The wall and ceiling are a beyond beautiful display of color and light....amazing

We went on such a perfect day-- the sun was shining and the glass was glistening. We had a nice surprise of the inflatable yellow duck in the water just on the other side. Great views of the water from the bridge. We did not get a chance to go into the museum, but the bridge is worth it-- open spaces and lots of photo ops!

Exhibits were lovely and there was a tutorial on how to make a glass ball. Very close to the Seattle space needle.

Crossing the bridge is a treat! The light shines through the glass and sparkles. The work is both creative and organic. Just lovely!

Take the time and the entrance fee and as we, three of us, you'll leave appreciating Chuilly's spectrum of class artistry.

We were at the Museum of Glass and Wales over the Chihuly Bridge Of Glass. Very enjoyable way to spend some time.

Walking over the train tracks from the lhistory museum to the Glass Museum you walk under a small bridge made of glass. Lots of color, designs and when the sun shines, brightness. All made by Chihuly or his students.

Always the place to take out of town friends...walk through the Washington State History Museum plaza, across the Bridge of Glass and down to the waterfront to look at the boats. The colors of the glass are amazing, there is always something new to see and discover!

The glass work here is some of the best in the country. I love the iconic shape of the structure and the staff is polite and friendly.

Chihuly plus Tacoma...what's not to like? Pick one or two and focus on them, noting color, shape and contrast/compare your choices.
Enjoy being up close. You're NOT going to look at a bazillion smart phone photos so look at the pieces with your eyes, not your phone!

I was just killing time in between some appointments and meetings so I went to check it put because i had heard great things about the place and it did not disappoint. All i can say is wow!!! Absploutly stunning displays of amazingly wonderful and hand crafted and blown masterpieces ... ive been back three times
.

Stretching over the interstate highway the bridge contains exhibitions of Chihuly glassware, one side plates and globes, the other fantastically shaped vases. In the middle are two columns of green glass in large suspended fragments.
No admission required and you can get from one side of the road to the other (that's what bridges do). A unique display - don't miss it!

This is one of my favorite free art exhibits in Tacoma. This bridge over the 705 freeway that connects downtown at the State History Museum to the Glass Museum is amazing! Like a beautiful under sea of fantastical creatures the glass is over head as you walk across the bridge. Also beautiful glass along the side of the bridge. A must see. Tacoma Downtown is reallybecoming a major art center and all of it is walkable.

We loved the Chihuly Glass garden in Seattle so this was a must see, very interesting. There is also Chihuly glass in the Union Station Courthouse near the bridge.

Any time someone visits, I take them here. I only give it 4 stars because it's kind of a short lived nice thing to do as you walk around Tacoma.

You are surrounded by the beautiful glass display as you explore this bridge. The experience is somewhat diminished by the homeless situation.

Chihuly Bridge of Glass is just as others described and definitely worth a stop while in Tacoma. Since we did not have time for the Museum of Glass, we just parked on Pacific Avenue, crossed the road, and walked between the Union Station and history museum to the bridge.
Pacific Avenue is a divided road with parking on the west (southbound) side of the road. A parking fee is charged at machines on the sidewalk and may be paid with either cash/coin or card. Look for pedestrian crossing on the roadway which also has a rail line.
Union Station is not open on the weekend, but we took a peak through the glass front doors to see the Chihuly glass hanging inside. The bridge is a nice, short stop on a sunny day.

What a beautiful art installation. Great location with wonderful views of Union Station, Glass Museum, Suspension Bridge and water way.

Take a slow stroll across this bridge as i have done many times it just seems to get better every time i go.

This is a gorgeous display of Chihuly glassware and it's free to walk across the bridge and take in all the color. One stretch is a wall of individual displays, the other is a ceiling totally made up of small Chihuly pieces. Locals just walk on by and don't take a second look but if you're in Tacome visiting this is worth the trip.

Tha Bridge of Glass is breathtakingly gorgeous! As a teacher, I have taken several classes to see it. Walkng on the bridge and seeing all the blown glass is one of the best free things to do in Tacoma. Forget the Glass Museum; it pales in comparison. I have blown many pieces of glass myself and love visiting the Glass Bridge whenever possible.

Not many chances to be immersed in the middle of something - and its free! But you can access the Chihuly Bridge from museum areas on either side of I-705 and walk encased in colorful glass art for quite a, but reasonable distance over the freeway. I enjoy the artistic glass in enclosed cases along the sides, but the best is the overhead display of free forms of many shapes. I've taken a photo and use it for my screensaver. Colors and forms in a stacked and overlapping display everywhere.

The work, both of Chihuly in the ceiling installation and all of the panels with various work in it, is amazing. So much variety in shape, color and technique is beautiful and interesting. It is free and it's nice you can experience it without the $17 charge for the Museum of Glass.
Unfortunately it is located above a busy freeway with tons of carbon monoxide billowing up all around you. When Diesel trucks and other non-smog checked vehicles pass, it's even worse. This is not a quiet, pleasant place to experience art, it is an exhaust filled concrete bridge over a freeway. Love the glasswork, but trying to enjoy it while choking on fumes isn't the nicest. It's free, so you get what you pay for.

The most unique feature of the city. It is within walking distance of the Museum of Art and the beautifully restored Union Station. The bridge and Union Station are free.

Had no idea this would be part of our walk to Destiny boat trip. Beautiful! My kids loved too (ages 5 and 7)

This bridge is a gem of an attraction, and it is absolutely free to visit! Along the bridge there is an enclosed glass case showcasing an variety of glass vases that are just beautiful! Then, when you get under the covered portion of the bridge you will be amazed when you look up. There are thousands of beautiful glass pieces embedded in a glass covered ceiling. It is absolutely breath-taking! I found it was easy to take gorgeous pictures of the ceiling with my cell phone.
If you are looking for something fun to do, for little to no cost (depending on where you park if you drive to it) then I highly recommend you visit the Chihuly Bridge of Glass.

Cool to see ceiling with display of chihuly glass and wall of vases. Recommend you take time to walk over this bridge and see this.

Living where we do, there are many opportunities to enjoy Dale Chihuly's wonderful glass artwork, but this exhibit is one of a kind. Something for everyone and almost too much to take in on first visit. Well worth the walk on the way to the Museum of Glass.

The glass bridge is probably the best feature of the Chihuly museum. The museum is good too, but the pieces displayed on the bridge are the best.

this bridge is a connector between the Museum of Natural History and the Glass museum. my wife an I took many photos as did everyone in our group. the sight is amazing.

Outside adjacent to the Museum of Glass is a foot bridge with an amazing collection and display of artist Dan Chihuly. There are about 100 or more variety of pieces of Dan Chihuly glass art enclosed in a glass wall. Along side is a glass ceiling composed of Chihuly glass flowers. There are also a couple of large Chihuly glass structures. Do not miss this bridge. It is free to walk through. Across is Washington State University.

Be sure to walk the whole bridge and look UP! Then walk around the outside of the glass museum. Quite unique!

Having paid a little amount for parking at the History museum we walked the Chihuly Bridge of Glass. 500 feet long pedestrian bridge connecting the Washington State History Museum with the Museum of Glass is a feast for the visitors’ eyes. The bridge showcases three separate art works of the glass sculptor - Seaform Pavilion, two 40 feet high "Crystal Towers" and long racked wall known as "Venetian Wall". We enjoyed the artworks and took a few nice pictures. Recommend you take time to walk over this bridge and see this. No admission required.

I remember when the Chihuly Bridge of Glass was installed. It has been a wonderful addition to Tacoma and a very worthwhile visit if you are in the area. Each component of the bridge is unique and beautiful. Take your time to appreciate this unique structure. It is absolutely free!

If you live in Washington you can hardly turn around without seeing a Chihuly piece. The Bridge of glass sports some of his gaudiest pieces. On the upside, it’s free.

Nice overhead display of glass and located very conveniently in downtown. Didn't get to visit the museum; but a nice walk and visit to Downtown.

My initial thought is that the bridge was actually made of glass. NOPE - however it does showcase some amazing glass sculptures. We parked in the Washington State History Museum Lot A 0-2 hours for $4 it is a short 1 block walk to the bridge. We did not need the entire two hours - but you could plan other things to do in this area.

Downtown Tacoma has a nice collection of Museums and attractions near the water. There are some cool old buildings, especially Union Station (now a government building).
We were staying a few blocks above the port and I wandered down here on my morning walk. I'm quite glad I did. There are spectacular sculptures over the bridge and a collection of curious glass vases. The best part, however, is inside a covered part of the bridge with mind-boggling multi-colored glass sculptures on the ceiling above.
I wasn't able to enjoy any of the Museums that day, but I'll definitely come back and enjoy the sights.

It was a brief walk under to see the glasswork displayed overhead if you are even aware to look above you, as it's easy to miss that if you aren't looking above. Different pieces of glassware placed in glass containers above to be viewed. It was alright.

I drove around in circles for 10 minutes searching for this based off the pictures you would think it would be something massive and exciting to see but it was small and if you drive fast you will drive right past it there is another glass museum that maybe better than this

This is worth the time to visit — even if you haven’t seen the Chihuly Glass Museum and Garden in Seattle. Beautiful and unique display of Chihuly’s art.

A stunning exhibition of Chihuly's glass masterpieces - freely wander across the bridge of glass to appreciate the beauty and craftsmanship on display.

I admit it - I love Chihuly Glass and the Bridge of Glass did not disappoint. Take the time to see this beautiful display - and it's FREE!

On a warm, sunny day, be sure to look up as you are on the bridge. Lovely! Then, remember to look up as you enter the second covered bridge...several people missed the lovely glass there. That was a total surprise and possibly even better than the first..... to be clear, there is an open span between the two "ceilings".

Being a huge fan of Chihuly i made the effort to go and see his works on display for the public. I could actually see them from restaurant across from the boat club

Stroll the bridge and take some photographs. It is a beautiful display and the glass shimmers on a sunny day. Stop at Union Station to see Chihuly glass on display. If you want to see more Chihuly glass go toward the University of Washington. There is a bar near campus where Chihully donated glass, art, and accordions that are on display. Ask the friendly staff where you can take pictures. It is a great spot to relax, dine and watch pm live entertainment.

We parked in a $5 lot at the base of the bridge (at the Museum of Glass.). The bridge will blow your mind! Incredible how they can add that color to glass & bend it that way, & make it so large.

A most interesting visit. When we saw the ad for the birdge we thought the floor of the bridge might be made of glass. It was not but the glass pieces on display were beautiful to see.

Ok, so, no...this is not a bridge made of glass. However, it is still interesting and if you are into Chihuly there is definitely enough to quench your desire. The Bridge has a overhang with a full assortment of Chihuly glass as well as a side wall of many separate exhibition cubes, each sporting a different Chihuly work. The work is quite good, but, a touch redundant. Oh, did I mention, the bridge is totally free. If you are in the area you should stop by. The entire area is quite cool with a lot to do!

The art work from the glass shop displayed on the bridge is amazing. We were able to entertain the kids with all the different shapes and designs while walking and see the blue sky come through was just a spectacular site.

Beautiful and free (aside from parking at one of the close by public parking garages).Near glass museum and can walk across to other museums and Pacific Avenue.

The bridge is beautiful and free. I could spend hours looking at all the pieces in the cases and the ceiling us also filled with unique shapes.

If you are a fan of art glass -- particularly Dale Chihuly art class -- you owe yourself a walk across this bridge from the Glass Museum to the History and Art museums in Tacoma. There are thousands (not a typo) of Chihuly Studio pieces in the ceiling of the bridge. When the sun is shining the impact is amazing. Go enjoy!

We've been to several Chihuly Glass Museums, but never to the Chihuly Bridge of Glass. It is a MUST SEE!! You won't be disappointed. The tall glass structures, the overhead glass objects and the walls of glass are amazing. And, best of all, no charge.

Amazing bridge over the I5 to the glass museum. Must be spectacular at night when it is all lit up. Highly recommend

We climbed the ramp from the glass museum and walked through the bridge of glass a couple of times - each time seeing something that we missed before. Well worth the time!

This beautiful bridge with its ceiling of Chihuly Glass flowers is rivaled only by the Chihuly ceiling at Bellagio's in Las Vegas. But why go to Las Vegas when you can see his amazing work close to home?

Beautiful ceiling colored art. Had trouble finding the attraction - no signs to find it. Small amount of Chilukiy but combined with Tacoma Art Museum a nice visit.

When getting ready for our recent 3 day trip to Seattle, we asked our friends & family what we should not miss while there. Everyone said, "Don't miss the Bridge of Glass in Tacoma!" And they were right. So amazing, and best of all, other than paying for street parking, it was free! We happened to be there during a break in the rain, which was nice.
My favorite part was the Seaform section, and can only imagine what it would be like with actual sun shining through it! The other two parts were great as well, although the Venetian wall section reminded me a little too much of a mausoleum wall setup...
Of note, we started on the Museum of Glass end, crossed the bridge, and then zipped over to the old Union Station, which has some amazing Chihuly glass structures inside. However, it is now a Federal Courthouse so be prepared to show ID before you can enter.

After visiting the Chihuly Glass exhibit in Seattle, couldn’t wait to get more at the Chihuly Bridge of Glass in Tacoma. The area was great and had no problems parking. We loved watching other artists blowing glass, but were blown away with the Bridge of Glass.

If you are within 10-15 minutes of this attraction as you travel through the area, and it happens to be nearing dusk, I would say 'stop and smell the roses'. And, whether you eat at one of the local restaurants (within walking distance) or you bring a picnic, do plan on remaining past dark for this wonderful little gem. The outside portion of the venue is the FREE treasure. Family friendly and ADA, but had to duck into a restaurant to use the restroom. This could even be an opportunity to teach kids about different types of art, and instill an appreciation without having to dip into the family budget and pay for yet another entry fee to an attraction. Happy explorations!

I always make a point to walk across the bridge when visiting Tacoma! The bright colors and shapes of the glass art brightens any drizzly or gray day!

The name Chihuly says it all - Beautiful glass, great natural lighting and open air to see Tacoma. With no admission charge, this is a must see location as you walk through Tacoma.

The Bridge of Glass is a must visit site in Tacoma. Great glass sculptures that can be viewed while strolling in the area. There is no admission fee and the city view is truly enjoyable.

If you want to see Dale Chihuly's world renowned, glass artwork for FREE come visit the Chihuly Bridge of Glass in Tacoma. Situated over highway 705, from here you also get a great view of downtown Tacoma, the port, the mountains at a distance. All in all a great deal, I'd say!

This bridge connects the Tacoma Art Museum and the Museum Of Glass. It is free, and has some nice glass works by Dale Chihuly.

The sun shining through the glass is mesmerizing. Loved this spot. Great place to snap a lot of pics.

While in Tacoma, be sure to take in our Chihuly Bridge of Glass. It's free and filled on both sides, including the ceiling, with examples of Chihuly's finest work--all backlight by natural light! Plenty of room to stroll and snap pics of your favorite work or the entire installation. Well worth a visit while in Tacoma!

This bridge has free access. On permanent display are various blown glass samples created at the Museum. Probably wouldn't hurt to have the display glass cleaned to permit better viewing of the articles. (On the day of our visit, it did not appear that there had been a recent cleaning).

Having visited the Chihuly museum in Seattle, we had to see the Bridge of Glass. It is exquisite! We would definitely visit it again if we return to Tacoma.

Thank you TripAdvisor for the suggestion, it was so worth it. My daughter and I were headed to Seattle and we are glad we stopped in Tacoma. The bridge is very beautiful, great photo op. I was pretty impressed by the positioning of the art against the sunlight... so much detail and colors.

I love Chihuly but it’s amazing that so many people can experience it for free and at anytime! The bridge connects you to the Glass Art Museum and the Tacoma Art Museum

We were in the area on a Sunday morning so the the museum was not open but the walk over from our hotel (Holiday Inn Express) was quick and easy. Our itinerary did not allow for a long time before heading out for Port Townsend, so this was a perfect way to start the day. There were less than a dozen people along the way so it felt like a private showing. A leisurely walk, stop for coffee and time to admire the glass all only took about an hour. Well worth the time.

We were a little skeptical when we saw it from the road, but when we went on the bridge, the glasswork pieces were nothing short of amazing. We spent about an hour up there snapping pictures and picking our favorites.

We were fortunate to visit during a time when we could get street parking right in front of the area. Wonderful stroll around the complex, but did not go into the glass museum itself. Bridge of Glass is very striking on a sunny day. You can just wander through in a few minutes, or take 20-30 minutes to really enjoy the many panels and sculpture examples.Old Union Station/current courthouse next door is also worth a peak inside for the Chihuly chandelier - free but have to go through a quick security check...

Young grandchildren are big Chihuly fans and they loved this. Spent a long time looking at each piece and choosing their favorites.

How lucky we are in Tacoma to have such a huge art culture scene and so many blown glass artists! You must visit this bridge and stand to gaze upon the vibrant colors of glass mingling, swirling, and coming alive.

This is a amazing walking bridge over a freeway. Beautiful blown glass over Head with the sun shining t rhrough. Both sides have clear glass boxes with imaginary objects of colorful blown glass.
there is a lot of Chihuly glass nearby .

This bridge is such a unique blend of architecture and art. It is a great photo op, especially on a sunny day.

This is one place you have to see if you are in Tacoma. The art form made into glass is amazing. Highly recommended.

Anything this beautiful that’s there for everyone to enjoy is what makes a city great and Tacoma has plenty. Chihuly has given so much to the region, he’s such an amazing artist!

There were so many gorgeous pieces all around to look at. There is no charge for this. It is outside, so you'll want to dress for the weather. It was a foggy day when we were there and still very beautiful, so don't let a gray day or a little fog put you off.

Ok I'm a HUGE fan of Dale Chihuly's work! Even though it was a very cool and drizzly day, off we went from Seattle to Tacoma to visit A Bridge of Glass. Tacoma is Chihuly's home town, and a Bridge of Glass did not disappoint. It is his art installation across the pedestrian bridge that spans I-705, and connects the Thea Foss Waterway and the Museum of Glass. There are 3 different areas that make up A Bridge of Glass created by Chihuly to change our perception of the space and environment. These include 1) the Seaform Pavillion - a complete glass ceiling of his spectacular and colorful works of art, 2) the Crystal Towers (the center of the Bridge) that are huge and I can only image what they would look like on a sunny day, and 3) the Venetian Wall with a stunning amount individual pieces. Breathtaking works of art free for all to enjoy, and ends with a stunning view of the harbor. If you love stunningly beautiful works of art, don't miss this one.

We walked to the museum on an overpass to the Glass Museum. It is a spectacular, but short (10 yards) bridge covering. Only Chihuly does it this well.

Watched a guest glass blower work on a project with the help of the residents. Then viewed his finished projects on display. I don't remember his name but he was there from 2/27 to 3/3/2019. Gregory something I believe. Fantastic material. Worth the whole trip. Many years before had visited the Pilchuck Glass Blowing school also started by Dale Chihuly. Is also a teaching school for students all over the world.

I lived in Seattle in the 90's when this museum did not exist. It is a must see for locals and tourists!! Spectacular!

A beautiful sunny day showed off the many colors of glass on the bridge. And the giant glass 'candy' gates were impressive.

This is a must see!! walk all the way to the other side and down by the docks are some fantastic restaurants.

Be sure to stop and enjoy this on your way to the Museum of Glass. The art is perfectly lit and right over your head.

We walked it a week ago. Loved the over head pieces and the wall pieces. I am sure it changes constantly as the light changes.
It is wheel chair accessible.
This is a free viewing of an international treasure.

Free attraction that allows the visitor to view a case of glass pieces out of doors, leading to the museum as well as the Chihuly reflecting pool. It wasn't until I walked back when i realized I'd passed through a short tunnel that had amazing glass displays on the ceiling--amazing and beautiful!

If you want a free alternative or addition to Chiluly Garden and Glass, be sure to stop by this bridge in Tacoma. It is worth a visit if you're in the area. We parked in the Museum of Glass parking lot and got free parking because the parking kiosks weren't working. We walked across the bridge and browsed the museum gift shop. It was a nice outing.

It's quite a challenge to even describe this. The light and colors of this installation is completely overwhelming. Worth a detour to Tacoma, definitely!

It's interesting, but didn't have much variety. A lot of similar stuff. Not a big glass art fan. If you are really into glass, it may be more in your wheelhouse....but for me it was just aight.

This is so beautiful even on a cold rainy day. I love that you can get a good look at the glass close up. Part of the bridge is covered & part is open.

The ceiling and side exhibits are wonderful. Bring your camera and enjoy the pieces when you need to look at something beautiful.

Loved the glass ceiling with the sun shining through and the large glass blocks on either side of the bridge. Beautiful display of art and a great free attraction that can be in seen in as little or as much time as you want.

The bridge spans I 705 so helps join the Tacoma Art Museum, History Museum and UWT on the West with the Museum of Glass and hotshop on the east. The bridge by itself is interesting but not compelling - go for the multiple Museum experience and enjoy the walk between them over the bridge.

There are some cool, interesting glass art pieces on the bridge, linking university district and the marina.
But its not made of glass as the name suggests.

If you're a fan of Chihuly's works or if you happen to be in the couple of blocks in Tacoma with museums, you should head across this bridge. It has a ceiling section that shows off a lot of Chihuly's work, as well as a wall full of glass vases. Both incredible and free!

You can spend an hour just looking up and across at the thousands of pieces of artistic glass plates, free forms, shells, vases, etc. etc. on the bridge that spans I-705. And that is the only distraction, the noise of the vehicles below you. It's free, amazing and provides access to the 'other side of town' which is the harbor area and entrance to the Glass Museum. If you crave more of this, but on a MUCH higher and artistic level, then go to the museum a few steps away. You will be pleasantly surprised by both.

The glassworks displays are fabulous, and the bridge allows fine views of a portion of the city of Tacoma. The homeless people sleeping on the bridge...sad.

Start with walking across the bridge to begin your experience. The glass art is amazing and will truly capture your imagination.

Free, an outside walk through experience, beautiful colors and glass. Beautiful. Magical. Connects the two downtown museums (Art, History) with the Glass Museum but no need to go to any of them. Excellent coffee shop within steps of the Bridge.

How unique it was to cross a bridge over 8 lanes of highway and have row after row of magnificent Dale Chihuly glassworks housed in niches row upon row. I'm estimating about 60 in all. Very interesting and always magnificently beautiful!

What a great stroll in down town Tacoma and it is free for all. Chihuly's work is beautiful. The walk changes with the sunlight and the rain.

Don’t miss the ceiling of the bridge. Amazing works of art along the wall.
Would have loved to see blue light fixtures lit at night.

Bit of an anticlimax after seeing the Chihuly museum in Seattle. The kiln at the end of the bridge is interesting.

Have never seen anything like it! Beautiful colorful glassware in ceiling, glass sculptures along the walls. A nice walk and it’s free!

I took my niece to the museum of glass and went across the Chihuly Bridge of Glass. It’s outside and free. There were lots of people on it. The picture I posted is of the Crystal Towers, center of bridge. It never gets old.

This ceiling of glass looks a lot like sea creatures found in the Pacific, sea anemones come to life through Chihuly!

His glass art creations make you feel like you are in a beautiful magical world. Highly recommend, for all ages to experience this if you are in Tacoma and have some time to spare.

Must see if you visit Tacoma. Rivals the isle of Murano in Venice. Can spend hours watching a demo, however the demo today wasn't the most engaging of making an airplane. Picture taking is allowed so take many to share unbelievable structures. Amazing!

Walking around trying to get a good view of “the Mountain” and wandered over the bridge. Beautiful glass above my head and locals enjoying the space. Classy option in Tacoma.

The short walk across the bridge is well worth the time. (Some of what you see on the bridge will be more interesting than what you have to pay to see inside the Museum of Glass.)

This is such a place to visit with lots and lots of glass objects and planters on display. I can't believe this is free. It's a fun walk.

Be sure to walk the bridge as the sun comes up, midday, sunset, and at dark... the lighting changes everything.

Actually visited in 2015 or so, When up in Washington For a wedding in the family. Beautiful exhibits and museum, and you can watch them blow glass.

We loved it more than the smaller indoor bridge in the seattle museum/ Just stunning work of art. All that colour!

BEAUTIFUL and well-worth the time to view this bridge that stretches over the interstate (!)
Don't forget to take a few steps further in, and see the stunning ceiling pictured here!

We were here and walked this bridge. It is amazing but a single photo just doesn't get it done. There is some much to look at. I did video the entire bridge as I walked it. That was worth it.

I really had expected a glass bridge, not a bridge lined with Chihuly! Overwhelmed by its beauty and stunned that it is open to the public 24 hours a day. Too bad I didn't have enough time to photo graph each piece individually. Would love to see this at sunrise or sunset.

This walk is mesmerizing the first time you cross. Traffic noise aside, Chihuly's glass objects sparkle in the ceiling above especially on a sunny day. This is a fantastic connection between the Tacoma Art Museum, the Washington State History Museum and the Museum of Glass.

A perfect short walk over the tracks/road between the Museum of Glass and the Washington History Museum. The Chihuly exhibit in Seattle at the space needle is far better but hey, this is Tacoma.

I always take out of town guests to walk the bridge of glass. All of this world-class art in a free public space always surprises and changes peoples perception of Tacoma.

A bridge displaying many of Chihuly's art pieces. Really enjoyed it as we didn't have a chance to visit his museum in Seattle. The bridge is in front of The Museum of Glass which we did not visit.

We visited the Chihuly Bridge of Glass on the way to the Museum of Glass. I have been a Chihuly fan for many years and it was a wonderful way to see different pieces

A friend took us here. What a wonderful surprise and what a great gift to the people of Tacoma. We would be poorer if we'd have missed it. The ceilings are the most incredible.

It is pretty incredible that glass sculpture can be safe out of doors. But this bridge does indeed include some of Chihuly's wonderful works, including a section with a clear glass ceiling filled with his "Persian" works, that is quite stunning. And the bridge is open free to the public, also quite wonderful!

Having paid the minimum amount for parking ($4) at the History museum we walked the Chihuly Bridge of Glass. The one section with the glass pieces overhead is cool. The wall of art pieces, well most look like various types of bongs. Not interesting at all. I would say it wasn't worth the $4 we spent on parking.

Walking on the bridge gets you from Pacific Street to the Museum of Glass. On it, you will find (protected of course) hundreds of examples of Chihuly's work -- glassblown vases, delicate shapes and spirals in a ceiling compartment and built into one of the walls. Beautiful -- and free.

The art glass on the ceiling is beautiful, the others in the wall not so much. Sometimes there is a problem with parking.

Lots of glass sculptures, designs, and colors are on display for free as you walk across the bridge connecting a waterfront area to the downtown. If you are into glass blowing/art then this is a "must" especially since it is free! Remember to look up to see everything. Park on the street down from the Glass Museum (it's metered, but cheaper than the garage). Allow for 30 minutes on a mostly sunny day.

Beautiful pieces of art. Fun to see all the colors and creativity. Definitely should see this when in town

Get a good eye full of color and shapes. A unique collections that will keep your shutter finger happy. The collection will leave you wanting more. Check out the Seattle Center for the largest lightup versions of these great glass pieces.

Free activity, take as long as you like.. my family planned to stop for a few minutes but stayed a long time.. the kids loved taking in the bridge, the towers, the pavillon of artwork

Chihuly never ceases to amaze me. We went and there was a violinist that just fit so well. Amazing. Simply amazing

This is a lovely scenic place to visit if you are in Tacoma. There is a vertical wall filled with various decorative glass vessels and a ceiling of glass Chihuly pieces, a beautiful combination of colors and patterns. The ceiling reminded me of a cross between the patterns found when you see plankton under a microscope and a kaleidoscope pattern. If you are coming from the Glass Museum this is the perfect way to end your visit.

This is actually a pedestrian overpass taking you from the town side of Tacoma to the waterfront side and the entrance to the Glass museum. It's a great way to see all these beautiful pieces of glass if you're not up for a museum visit. They are all displayed up close and personal and is breath taking. It's the most extravagant public walkway I've been on and it really brightens up this once down trodden area of Tacoma. Tacoma has put a lot of expense in to revitalizing this waterway area and it shows. Lots of restaurants and shops to explore.

I love Chihuly’s works, but the Bridge of Glass was a bit disappointing after visiting the Chihuly Garden and Glass in Seattle. Except for the crystal towers, the other works seemed redundant. (Yes, I realize that the bridge predates the museum in Seattle). I also thought the glass installations in the adjacent Union Station were more impressive. It is still remarkable that these glassworks could be installed on a pedestrian bridge over a busy interstate.
The bridge features a Seaform Pavilion with over 2,000 sea forms in the ceiling, two 40 foot tall Crystal Towers and the Venetian Wall with a wall of 109 vases and sculptures. If you’re in the Tacoma area, it’s still worth a visit along with Union Station. The bridge is open 24/7 and there is no admission fee. The Fluent Steps installation by Martin Blank in front of the Glass Museum is also worth a visit.

We did not go into the glass art museum but there is a lot of art on display on the bridge. There is a ceiling to walk under and a window type display showing all forms of glass art. Very colorful.

The bridge of glass is beautiful and a romantic walk. The view of the Tacoma Dome with Mount Rainier adds to the view.

If you are in Tacoma, definitely swing by and see the Chihuly Bridge of Glass - but take my recommendation and go when it is dark. The displays are so much more dramatic seeing them with the dark background and spotlights/lights, as opposed to daylight. It's a free walk, just next to the Courthouse and WA State History Museum, leading to the Tacoma Museum of Glass (I actually preferred the bridge displays to the ones inside the museum!). The ceiling exhibit is amazing and the wall of glass vases is unmatched (look for the many cherubs, then head into the glass museum to see video of how they are made). Don't go to Tacoma and miss this lovely walk!

This is an amazing display of Chihuly glass creations. We saw it on a cloudy day and it was great, but I imagine with the sun shining through it would be spectacular

The best part about the bridge of glass is the ceiling. It is full of very colorful glass pieces that make you want to stand there and appreciate the work for quite a long time. The pieces that were displayed on the walls were great, but I felt that a lot of them were similar. Worth a quick stop though.

Actually, this place inspired me to take up glassblowing! This bridge is spectacular; especially if you're into color and light. Sunlight filters down through 100's of Chihuly glass in every shape and color you can imagine. It never looks the same way twice. On the other end of the bridge are unique huge venetians, each in it's own lighted space. This bridge eclipses the rest of the Museum in its splendor (sorry Museum) And did I mention it's free?

Chihuly glasswork beautiful as always. Interesting way to showcase the pieces. I personally like the huge chunks of the teal blue glass piled on top of each other.

This is a bridge in down town Tacoma where the sides and roof are decorated with blown glass artwork in abstract designs. It is free to see and I actually enjoyed it more that the museum

Underneath you the traffic on highway 705 is whizzing by. Above you , you are mesmerized by the many colors and shapes and the overlapping dimensions of the glass work making you feel almost as if you were under the sea looking toward the surface. The ceiling is one part of the Bridge of Glass, the other is the wall filled with many objects and colors displayed. There are many more open to the public parts of the Glass Museum to see after visiting the bridge. Wander around the Museum on the waters edge and stroll the Foss Waterway boardwalk. The bridge is a wonderful moment of mindfulness in any type of weather but the sunlight seems to illuminate and brighten each piece. And the highway sounds below you all but disappear.

The bridge of glass in Tacoma shows many beautiful examples of Dale Chihuly's spectacular works of Glass art. I have seen Chihuly glass art in many places around the world. The claim is always that Dale Chihuly is from Seattle. This is incorrect. Dale Chihuly is from Tacoma, Washington.

I really had a nice time walking the bridge looking at the nice pieces of glass on display. They were really bright

With the Museum of Glass closed, I was just walking around the area towards the marina when I encountered this amazing bridge containing an abundance of Chihuly works. There is a seascape tunnel with colorful glass shell shapes supported above your head. It is similar to one you see in the expensive Chihuly Glass exhibit in Seattle Center. However, this version on the bridge is completely free! There are also some large sculptures that look like huge hyacinths made of blue agate! They look great with the modern curves of the museum building and are so eye catching as the sun shines through the glass. Finally there is a wall of glass jars. It’s wonderful- it is like a wall of Greek vases in a great museum yet each vase by Chihuly is fascinating to look at with its curves, tendrils and hints from nature. There are benches so you can just sit and take it in. Wonderful if you are a Chihuly fan!

This bridge is one of the many incredible bridges in the state of Washington. The intricate glass work is so reflective of the local vibes and art scene. This is a great testament to modern art and a city's sense of community.

Beautiful glass displays on a bridge over the highway. Right in between the WA State History Museum and the Glass Museum. Provides some nice views of the harbor and Downtown Tacoma.

While in Tacoma, Washington for an art convention we took a walk over the bridge. We were delighted to see so much glass displayed on the bridge from the ceiling overhead to the glass towers and the individual shadowboxes that contained even more Chihuly glass. It was wonderful.

Beautifully executed bridge with glass pieces from several artists displayed on this walkway to the Museum of Glass.

This bridge presents many (most) of Dale Chihuly's body of work. It is one amazing view of his vision.....after another.....after another. You get it. This is a very good way to get an introduction into the glass artwork of one of America's most inspired and inspirational artists ever. Different every time we go as the light differs from the sun/clouds. Never disappointing.

I am a huge fan of Chihuly. And I came to see the bridge and wasn't disappointed. Three separate glass installations and you can also see the one in the Court House from the bridge too. Yay for a piece of infrastructure that is attractive.

We walked across the bridge of glass and were amazed at the beautiful and creative glass structures.

Free. Something for everybody whether you are just passing by or a fan of glass works. There are endless colors, shapes, sizes guaranteed to keep you interested. Love the abstract designs!

I really enjoy the artwork. Also like walking over the I5 that goes from Canada to Mexico and passes right underneath you. Love the price too...its free!

Amazing. Especially on a beautiful day. We have seen a lot of the Chihuly exhibits all over Europe and the US but it was nice to see part of it at home.

I visited the Chihuly Bridge of Glass about 5 years ago. I live in Colorado Springs and we had an exhibition at our Fine Arts center at least 8 years ago. So visiting Tacoma, I heard about the Chihuly Bridge of Glass. It is a beautiful place to visit. I bought a pair of earrings there that resemble his glass works and get comments on them all the time. Wonderful, wonderful place to visit.

Fun way to take a stroll to the glass museum from downtown. The ceiling displays make for awesome photos if your willing to sit on the floor for a second.

This is a review of an overpass. Granted it's one of the most artistic overpasses ever seen, but that's about it.
If you are in the neighborhood - go, sure. The items are classic Chihuly confections.

You do not want to miss this if you are near Tacoma. The vases are very pretty. The pieces in the ceiling are amazing. We almost did not walk further on the bridge to see the ceiling display. Make sure you keep walking toward Union Station to see this.

We stopped by the bridge on the Museum of glass side. You can take an elevator up to the 4th floor. It stretches to the History museum so, you can park on Pacific Avenue. It has some great views if you walk under it. There are vases to look at as well. It is free.

OMG! Difficult to get to using gps but worth finding. Put in the federal court or museum or you’ll drive in circles. The bridge and glass were beautiful!! Better than we expected. And next door is the federal court building in which we found additional chihuly. The people who work there are lucky!

The highlight of this visit was being able to observe (at no charge) a team of glass blowers working to create a large display piece.

Beautiful abundance of intricate glasswork! The bridge is a quick stroll but offers a large quantity of exquisite works, would definitely recommend seeing it!

Beautiful presentation of works of glass.
Could not afford to buy any but enjoyed looking. Stayed to watch actual live presentation to be disappointed. Artist was not happy with finished product and threw it away.

The bridge from the Museum of Glass across the freeway to the other side of the tracks (so to speak) is incredible. Any time you can see Chihuly's work free you should do it!

If you're right there~see it. It's beautiful. It's surrounded by boats and water, great views. Loved it.

They offer free pictures as you do your walk thru so look for a person with a camera they will position you and you just use the kiosk at the end and ail the pictures to yourself. Go earlier in the day it openedat 11 am and we started our tour at noon and it was still a decent amount of people. But it was reasonable enough to still enjoy the art work and the garden. Go see this garden!

We stopped here for 3 hours before we hit Defiance Park. Some really beautiful pieces in the Museum and lovely walk over the glass bridge. Staff if super friendly. The demonstration was good but long, but it takes time to make. Overall very interesting.

Where else can you visit the amazing wonders of Chihuly's art for FREE?
This is a great "arrival process" on the way to the Museum of Glass.

With all the wonderful work by Chiluly in Tacoma, this was the most disappointing. Perhaps I was expecting too much but I left wanting more

This is a great add on to the Museum of Glass. The bridge features vase type glass works and "roof" arrangement where the ceiling contains hundreds of his pieces similar to his display near the Space Needle.

A lovely bridge with a surprising amount of the famous Chihuly glass pieces. A really enjoyable view.

This was the highlight of our visit. We went to the Glass Museum, but saw more glass work on the bridge. It was all Chihuly’s work.

We were at the Museum of Glass and then walked over this bridge. The view is unreal. You can see the new buildings, the old revitalized building, the freeway below you, the mountains and the boats in the harbor. The glass exhibits are breathtaking and it's hard to believe that over 5 million dollars worth of glass is outside for all to see at no cost. It was a bit chilly so we didn't linger but one could sit and just people and traffic watch easily!

I’m not much of an artsy person but I found this place fascinating. I wandered and marveled for over an hour. It’s hard to imagine how some of these pieces are even possible.

Went with some friends and did a self guided tour and also a short guided tour. Staff was very knowledgeable. Got to see some actual glass blowing taking place. Great experience.

We walked the bridge between the museums and it was pretty neat. Loved the glass displayed on the ceiling. It was neat to see the light shine through all the colors. Our girls loved the glass flowers the most. It is worth the stop if you are in the area.

My husband and I are huge fans of art glass and Chihuly is the master. The Bridge Of Glass is an awe inspiring must see if you find yourself in Tacoma.

This is an interesting bridge right near the Museum of glass that has some glass exhibits available on the bridge. Most of the exhibits are best visible near mid day when the sun is overhead. it’s a free walk and next to the museum of glass so if you’re there at the museum it’s worth walking the bridge.

It's overkill Chihuly. The bridge includes almost too many of his creations, both the flower or vase shapes and the more sea creature glass. There must have been a lot of thought to vandalism, and there must be cameras everywhere, but it was not obvious. I am in awe of Chihuly's work, but I don't like all of it, and this bridge is jam-packed. What I do like about his art is that he is so playful and whimsical and perfecting his process, not to mention inspiring a whole generation of young artists that take the glass to new dimensions. I regret the time at a fundraiser, in which I didn't purchase a small piece for $275.

Every time we visit, we see something new. Enjoy sitting in the hot shop and watching them creat new glass figures. Tremendous amount of tallent and thought goes into each movement, from taking the hot liquid glass out of the furnance, blowing it and shaping it and reheating it over and over again until it is just perfect. Then the drama of will it break off the tube cleanly or shatter? Will the person carying it to the kiln make it or drop it. I hold my breath each time until it is finally resting in safety.

Ceiling of glass items and displays of blown glass very beautiful. See this before the museum - its impressive but just the tip of the iceberg compared to the Glass Museum.

This Chihuly exhibit is never closed, and no matter what hour, this free and accessible (and gorgeous) display of Chihuly glass creations never ceases to be a favorite capture on visiting tourist cameras. Park on Pacific Avenue, and take a quick walk over, it's easily worth a 10-15 minute stop, rain or shine.

This is a walking bridge over the interstate. It is not made of glass but has a glass exhibit on the bridge. There is a ledge you can sit on to study the glass figures. Be sure to look up as there is more glass above.

You don't have to pay and go into the glass museum in order to walk across the Freeway and enjoy these beautiful Chihuly glass. Be sure to talk all the way across and then turn to you right at the street and go visit the Old Train station. m It is now a court house but visitors are allowed in but must show ID to the guard at the door.

We visited the glass bridge and it was nothing what I thought. The bridge is not made out of glass. It’s a display of Mr. Chihuly’s glass works. It has display cases that house many different works of glass. If you cross the bridge from the Museum of Glass side, go into the court house. They have other Chihuly works of glass in there too. It’s a must see when you are in Tacoma.

Beautiful and free! Enjoyed it during sunset. Not to me missed if in Tacoma and art aficionados. Lovely views of Tacoma.

Loved the color and presentation of the of the displays. Will take all our visiting friends and relatives when they visit.

The colors are amazing and the pieces are very intricate. Unfortunately the museum was closed but we were able to spend time on the bridge and union station looking at the beautiful artwork.

The Chihuly Bridge of Glass is a lovely and artistic walk between museums or the city side to water side in Tacoma. We walked from the Tacoma Art Museum to the Foss Waterway Museum - just under a mile. Later had lunch at a place in between. The Chihuly bridge is fantastic, but at maximum is a 15 minute visit!

Honestly, this is just a foot bridge that crosses over to the Museum of Glass. But it's free and it's beautiful. Fans of Chihuly should pop across it just for the free viewing. There's interesting pieces placed here and there that are colorful and fun to see. But, I wouldn't plan a day around it, or drive there specifically just to see it. It's a nice touch for visitors coming to the actual Museum of Glass. Frankly, I liked it better than many of the pieces actually inside the museum.

I must see if you're already on the waterfront. Display of Twisted glass and artwork. The bridge joins the Glass Museum and the riverfront.

Beautiful bridge overpass with easy parking nearby at the Museum of Glass. Dozens of enclosures with individual blown glass vases and statues in all manner of designs and shapes. No charge to view, and depending on time of day, the natural light will glow through the translucent back panels behind each piece. Simply lovely!

The different glass pieces displayed on the bridge are very nice. The glass exhibits on the vertical columns on the bridge are not all that attractive...

I could have spent half an hour just looking at the glass art on display on this bridge! What a great piece to have available for all of the public!

This bridge takes you from the Glass Museum over a busy highway to many other great places to visit. The glass art on the ceiling of the bridge and more glass art housed in a glass display across the length of the bridge is truly a sight to see and it's FREE.

A bridge over the roadway, displays many works of glass and a part of the ceiling which is full of colorful glasswork. The bridge connects the History Museum downtown and the Glass Museum.

This is a bridge connecting museums. The bridge is always open (and free) and is brightest in the full sun.

Worth seeing although it's a pain to get there, find pay parking and cool outside for the walk. Union Station also has some nice pieces and the front door guy is friendly. If your kind he'll let you take a few pics inside. Don't pay for the museum, you'll only be disappointed. No extra special glass work in side.

Just a cool link from downtown to the MOG. Very colorful and wonderful. A great thing to see in Tacoma and convenient for the museum traffic.

If you visit the Washington State Historical Society museum, step outside and walk over the Chihuly Bridge of glass. There are two fantastic columns of glass cubes before you come to a wall full of beautiful glass sculptures. We walked right across the bride and almost missed another amazing feature. Part of the bride is covered over. Normally people do not look up. When crossing this bridge you have to because the roof space has even more spectacular glasswork. This is a must see attraction.

We stopped to see this while walking from the Washington State History Museum to the Tacoma Art Museum. This is attractive and worth stopping to see.

A photo of the ceiling has been my screen saver for years. It is truly mesmerizing to see all the elements Chihuly has included.

A beautiful walk over a city foot bridge - I very much appreciate the concept of making an ordinary walk - exceptional and inspiring. Beautiful.

If you visit Tacoma you have to visit the glass bridge and museum. A lovely stroll to see Tacoma! The bridge has fabulous glass art on sides as well as ceiling.

Doesn't take long and should be paired with the Museum of Glass (adjacent). Simply terrific installation by a true master. If you like art glass, this is mandatory!

This bridge is a landmark in Tacoma, and it crosses over a highway. There were magnificent works of glass art throughout this bridge. This bridge also led to the waterfront, to the museum, and to Tacoma’s Downtown. I am sure that it took a lot of work to construct this bridge. I felt safe in this area, and I parked for free on a street a few blocks away.

The glass bridge is very interesting. Suspends over a small freeway link. Very interesting display of blown glass in display cases right out in the middle of the bridge.

This is an unusual display of Chihuly’s work. Walk across the bridge and view the various objects. It is a pedestrian bridge so you can stop and admire the various pieces

Though I am not "artsy", I was amazed at the beauty and talent of this artist. You MUST see it in person to appreciate the work.

This is one of those places that you really have to love the subject matter, here its Chihuly glass. I parked in front of the museum of glass ( use this for the Google map address). As it was before the no parking restriction of 8am it was easy. Climbed the stairs around the museum and walked on through. This is essentially a wall of glass in one portion and a ceiling of glass in another portion. Both were beautiful. I was able to get a coffee on the other side, walk back all in under 30 minutes. If you want more than a taste the museum opens at 10am and will quench your glass obsession.

I am handicapped so a security guard was summoned to gain entrance to the elevator taking us from the main entrance to the sky bridge. I'm glad we made the effort because this is where we finally found many colorful pieces of art glass on display. It was a beautiful day so this was a nice experience. In cold Rainey weather it wouldn't be worth the trouble. The display was quite small and left me wanting more.
The return trip in the elevator made us go down to the parking garage and walk the width of it to get into the elevator to return to the showroom and gift shop. The gift shop offered many beautiful glass pieces. Once you got past marbles and posters the prices went into the hundreds of dollars for items made by glass artists not connected to Chihuly. We left without a purchase.
In summation, the bridge display is only about 20 feet long. If you decide to visit it I suggest you continue on to Pacific Ave., turn right and go into Union Station. It is home to many beautiful Chihuly designs and is free to the public. Your bracelet will get you back into the museum of glass so no worries there.
Incidentally parking was $5.00 and Senior Citizen admission was $12.00.

This was very unexpected and beautiful. A wall of big bold glass pieces followed by a ceiling of organic glass pieces. This bridge connects the glass museum on the waterfront to the Union Station area by the University of Washington. This is a great area in general for sites, eats, and drinks.

This bridge goes across the highway to the Museum of Glass. Has some great glassworks to look at. At the other end is a marina and some restaurants next to the Museum of Glass.

It's amazing to have this display available for anyone who will walk up to it!! If you've never seen Chihuly glass, go and get a taste.

This overpass from downtown to the museum district provides an beautiful experience. On a sunny day, the light streams through and the glass art sparkles. Even on a cloudy day, the beauty along this bridge will brighten your day.

There are 3 parts. The first part is called "Seaform Pavilion". It has over 2,300 Chihuly glass objects in it. It's very pretty. The second part at the center of the bridge is call "Crystal Towers". It looks like green/blue rock candy. There third part is called "Venetian wall". It is like a book shelf for vases. The bridge is free to see. There is pay parking nearby.

Wow, its breathtaking, its amazing how they made these glass art. Nice for photo op. Its a preview of what would you see in their glass museum which was just around the corner. Its also near to the Washington State Museum.

Visit this gem to see beautiful, intricate glass art, above and beside a freeway overpass. Stroll along from the Pacific Ave side the on the over side you'll encounter a pedestrian delight. Either visit the great Glass Museum, or walk along the beautifully appointed path. You'll encounter reversible benches, musical art, boats and sea gulls. Go can take the path to the Boat Museum or go for miles up to the gem of Tacoma Point Defiance Park, or stop along to way to eat and drink at the lovely restaurants with sound views.

So much Chihuly in one place place! Loved the vases etc in the display wall. Although this is just a walkway to the art museum, it is so worth looking at! I have been to 2-3 outdoor botanical garden Chihuly exhibits but this is just more fun.

I admire and appreciate Chihuly's work. But the Bridge of Glass is like a down-market gift shop window. Take a pass on this and visit instead the Chihuly garden and exhibit in Space Needle park. That's a stunning and intriguing exhibition. The Bridge just made me sad.

Whats not to like?
Interesting assortment of glass to look at...
We like to eat at Harmons and walk over the bridge and walk the waterfront. It's a low-cost but pleasant way to spend a warm evening

We visited on a late Sunday morning, parked on the street for free just below the bridge and walked up the Museum of Glass access ramp. This bridge is a must see while visiting downtown Tacoma. It crosses over the highway.
Definitely take time to enjoy each glass piece, all very different in shapes and colors. Not often you get this for free. We walked over the bridge to the other side to get some coffee, followed by lunch.

I love Chihuly so my eyes popped out of my head when I walked across a magical bridge with hundreds of Chihuly pieces in the ceiling and walls! There are also sculptures on the bridge itself and Chihuly pieces featured in the window of the Courthouse in the distance. Best part--it is free!!

I mean if you are in the area, stop by and take a look, but not that great. It is free which makes it ok.

It seemed that there were close to a hundred pieces of art, kept behind glass in an out door environment. The display was "oversized", which was a good combination with the size of the art pieces. It was fun to just stand back and scan the exhibit, and notice which pieces caused you to want to look at them longer. (This exercise told me more about my tastes than about the pieces themselves, but it was a good exercise.)

a nice, free arrangement of vases and other modern, whimsical glass designs from the mind of Dale Chihuly.

An interesting free exhibit. It is very beautiful and well set up. A nice stroll among the 'flowers'.

The glass bridge leading to the museum showcased about 80+ large glass Vases each approx. 4' tall. That and the glass structure in the fountain below the museum were are favorites.

Recently visited the Museum of Glass and Chihuly Bridge of Glass when my sister-in-law (a former resident) was in town for a few days. What fun! 5 Stars!

I found it amazing that all these valuable art pieces are placed on a bridge over the freeway. We were there on a very sunny day and the light was perfect for the displays.

I'm in awe of the talent it takes to make this type of art work! As you cross the bridge the work is so intricate and varied. There are signs stating the different artists names. The variety of different techniques on the glass art is interesting. It's fun to video this and look at it again later in more detail if you don't have time to stop and look for a while, while you are there.

A very stunning and unique display of art in the heart of downtown Tacoma. Glass creations encased on the bridge overpass will keep you mesmerized with the beautiful Tacoma skyline for a backdrop.

The bridge has everything thing you need to see without paying to visit the glass museum...roof display and wall art are amazingly.

Every time we have out-of-town guests, we're sure to take them to the Bridge of Glass. The artwork is amazing and the photo opps are endless. We usually park on Pacific Avenue by the UW-Tacoma) and walk across the bridge, toward the Museum of Glass. If our guests want to see the museum, we do that ... if not, we generally spend time walking around the museum -- enjoying the marina and outdoor art. To complete the tour, we often head over to The Fish Peddler for some fish and chips.

Very lovely collection of glass art. The colors are vivid and intense. I have some lovely photos from this visit

We walked over from the Glass Museum and enjoyed examining the many different glass pieces. They’re displayed in big shadow boxes on the side and overtop the bridge. Nice example of public art and beautiful detail in many pieces.

we took a quick stop to look at this bridge. the center portion has little compartment where there is a variety of blown glass items. what a talented person. absolutely amazing. I would have loved to see these actually being blown.....as it blew my mind.....lol. worth a quick stop.

This is a spectacular way to cross over to the glass museum and waterfront. Besides the ceiling, there were glass pieces set into the wall of the bridge.

Give yourself plenty of time to view and read all the background information with each display. Take in the the glass blowing demonstrations before departing; truly an art form to blow one's mind.

Excellent museum of glass. Very unique displays. They have an ongoing contest for children. A child can dray something they would like the museum to make as a glass sculpture. If picked they make 2 sculptures, one for the display at the museum and one for the artist that submitted the entry.

Some magnificent glass sculptures are on display!
The colors & shapes are spectacular!
You can watch artists blow and mold glass. A bit expensive though.

This bridge is amazing as you get to view a range of Chihuly's glass works enclosed in glass, on a pedestrian footbridge (as part of the bridge!), which takes you to the Glass Museum and Waterway among other sites. We went on a sunny day to see these 3 installations and it was brilliant. One was sea-themed and the colours of glass really made you feel you were under the water. Ironically, there are two crystal-like towers there that are NOT made of glass! Then there is the section called the "Venetian Wall" which reminds you of art-deco stylings. This bridge is free to access 24h a day and I am amazed no one has done any harm (it's glass!!) to it and thankful. It is really special. I would love to see this at night when it's all lit up. Nearby paid parking at the Museum of Glass' garage and metered street-parking on Dock St. Go see it if you like glass and art!!

I went here with my family and was super impressed with what I saw. It’s a museum full of Chihuly’s famous blown glass art pieces - it was amazing and breathtaking!

Of course comparing to the museum at Seattle next to the space needle, this one is very small but it’s free and doesn’t take much time to walk through. There are a few on the street parking.
If you use google maps and set to bridge of glass, it will only bring you to the bridge which is on top of deck street. So better to set the destination museum of glass which is literally next door and park the car on the street and walk across the bridge.
Walk across the bridge you will arrive to the union station which is a court house. Pictures taken inside are pretty but felt weird to take photos inside a courthouse. Need to show ID to enter.

The glass sculpture, the view and the glass ceiling filled with glass art is worth the little walk. The glass sculpture, the view and the glass ceiling filled with glass art is worth the little walk. It's free and only takes a few minutes. It stretches across the railroad tracks in the dock district of Tacoma.
There is a large wall of his art in glass cubicles and then a couple of tree-like sculptures.

The bridge is very pretty, but takes a very short time to walk. Not worth making a special trip, but if you're in the neighborhood or if you went to the glass museum, it is worth the time to take a look.

I would recommend this place. Beautiful pieces that make you feel you dove into a sea of exotic creatures.

We loved the Glass Bridge more then the actual exposition in the museum.
Although a visit to the glass blowing demonstration in the museum is something you really must go to.
Beautiful pieces especially in the ceiling part of the bridge. Don't forget to go to Union Station ( currently a courthouse, so don't forget your ID if you want to enter). It has a beautiful chandelier and large glass flowers.

Chihuly glass is a don't miss whether it is the bridge in Tacoma or the museum at the foot of the space needle in Seattle. The beauty of the glass is to behold. Incredible works of art!

This was a fun side trip! We enjoyed walking across the bridge (which is free) and looking at all the beautiful glass artworks by Chihuly. The marina on the other side of the bridge was also beautiful to walk around.

A bevy of very interesting glass creations all along the bridge. Well worth the walk, and also FREE.

I liked this place. My family had great time. Was really fun. Must go thing when you go to Tacoma. Can recommend.

Trying to walk and look up at the glass ceiling is difficult, but worth the work. Its an appropriate introduction to Chihuly glass.

I love walking on this Bridge. I'm really surprised that the glass works haven't been vandalized or destroyed. It's just amazing to gaze at these wonderful pieces of glass art. Truly a must see.

Who knew that a pedestrian bridge could be so beautiful! Thousands of pieces of glass art are lined along the walls and in the ceiling of this unusual structure. This should not be missed by anyone visiting Tacoma.

We saw an exhibition of Chihuly at Kew Gardens in England and wanted to see more. His art exhibited on a bridge at either end. Not the easiest place to find for a first time visitor but well worth the walk. You don’t need long but a real bonus of what you can do to make a bridge something special and a destination as well as a crossing.

Your mind immediately quiets & child-like wonder fills your eyes as room after room of beautiful flowing color illuminates your senses! Can be quick or as long as a visit as you like. Plenty of space, enjoyed hearing classical music. Beautiful!

I suggest go to the bridge instead of the museum. It’s free, you will see a lot more glass work and you are not subjected to the homosexual exhibit.

As a huge fan of Dale Chihuly this bridge was a can't miss for me. In many ways it did not disappoint. The artwork itself is just stunning and you should take the time to see it both during the day and wanted to luminated at night. What is very frustrating is this year number of pieces especially in the wall where the lights have burned out. Weather this is the city of Tacoma or the Museum of Glass which is responsible someone needs to take better care of the lighting. But otherwise I walked along this bridge every single night that I was there because I thought the artwork was so special.

as you stroll from the Washington History Museum to the Museum of Glass, you pass over the railroad tracks on a gorgeous footbridge that is adorned with Chilhuly glass pieces!! It is truly remarkable to have so many lovely pieces of art available for viewing for FREE and with no particular rush/agenda. The juxtaposition of the industrial heart of Tacoma's port against the beauty of hand-blown glass is stunning. If you are inclined, you can sit and watch the light play through the different pieces for a "moving/motion-picture" exhibit! Also, it may be the limit that some kids have for looking at Glass, so it gives the adults a chance to enjoy the beauty without spending a lot of money at the museum.

We went here with a tour group. If you are a Chihuly lover, like I am, it is not to be missed. His works are so varied but they are all beautiful

This is my most favorite of Chihuly's work - lots of sea forms and beautiful colors, to me better than the museum and it is free.

Waze was not the best app to find the bridge because of literally used the middle of the freeway as the point where we arrived!
After looping around we finally found parking on Dock Street right next to the Museum of Glass. Since we were here quite early there was lots of space and very cheap versus the lot parking under the museum.
From the street it was around a 10 minute walk before we got to the bridge. Along the way you see the docks and the outdoor glass artwork before climbing up the stairs outside the museum. A wheelchair ramp was to the right when facing the museum.
The Venetian wall of Chihuly glass works was very cool. So many different shapes and sizes all free to view up close. A bench ran the length of the wall on the opposite side but we did not sit down as it was occupied by a sleeping homeless person.
There were two crystal towers of bluish glass that towered overhead.
The ceiling above also contained more glassworks stacked closely together.
A great way to experience the glass artwork of Dale Chihuly without the bight prices at his Seattle museum. Of course not necessarily the same but a good alternative when pressed for time or money.
One day we will need to come back at night and see the light plays across all this glass.

This is a "must see" if you're in Tacoma. Walk the bridge of colorful custom glass pieces, then enjoy the glass museum.

Very interesting bridge with Chihuly glass works. When we were there it had just started raining. We walked to the bridge in a drizzle. When we got under the glass art ceiling area the rain really started coming down. Fortunately it kept us dry. We didn’t have bright sun which I think would have helped all the glass works. Worth a stop if you are in Tacoma.

Nice stroll to see the many glass art objects encased in a display case. To bad they have to be in a case, hard to get photos from glare. But that’s just how it has to be. I unfortunately was unable to do the underside.
Not to miss!
Just outside the glass museum is a wondrous bridge with a glass ceiling that is filled with blown glass, and the sides have glass art as well! It's a beautiful part of the experience that some people miss on their way in and out of the museum, but make sure to see it!
