We visited this lovely church and recieved a great deal of history of this church and information about the Golden Isles.

Such an interesting place!! We learned of the history from the Trolley Tour. Such a love story. He brought his wife back and kept her close to him. The slave that brought his master and close friend back from the war, he is buried in the church yard. I am going to look up the history and read more. A must see!!

If you are on St. Simon Island, Christ Church is one of the several island attractions one need to visit. It is located at the end of the island (near Fort Frederica) and has lovely grounds to wander. The church has an active congregation and is open for tours to see the lovely stained glass windows.

This church is part of the Island trolley tour. We came back later on and saw the inside of it. Very pretty.!

Was a little upset church wasn't open when we visited. The grounds were beautiful. Walked through the old cemetery.

This is a beautiful Church. You feel as if you’ve stepped back in time when you arrive. It’s wonderful to know that it is still a thriving parish today. Even the cemetery is wondrous with very early gravestone dates. It’s peaceful and grace-filled.

Beautiful to visit and rich in local history as well as church history.
Cemetery and grave markers are very unique. Our kids have always liked that we often see deer as we walk the grounds.

We were fortunate to go inside this beautiful church with its stained glass windows and heart pine walls and ceiling that resemble the hull of a ship. Its grounds and cemetery are beautiful with historic graves and lovely trees with moss.

We managed to be at the church when it was open for visitors. It is open in the afternoons to the public. We were allowed to take photos inside of the beautiful stained glass windows.
Although an Episcopalian church, this area also is known for John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, who, apparently, preached under what is now a huge oak outside the church wall.
Outdoors, surrounding the church is its cemetery. The earliest grave, which we never found, supposedly is from 1803. We did find and photograph the marker for the grave of a Revolutionary War soldier who died in 1804. Soldiers from both sides who died in the Civil War also are buried at this cemetery.

The docent was a wealth of information...Thank you Kathryn...this was well worth the stop on the way to Fort Frederica! The church is lovely with amazing stained glass...the grounds are beautiful...you really feel like you’re on sacred ground...we highly recommend this and wish we could give it more than 5 ⭐️

The old Christ Church is a must, absolutely beautiful visit back in time full of charm and meaning to worshippers.

Great historical place to visit while on the island. Make sure to book a trolley tour to learn all about it. Grounds were well kept.

If you ever get a chance to go inside, you will be in awe of the architecture and stained glass windows.
Strolling the grounds you see so much history, of those who made the island what is was and what it has become. You really do feel God’s love and presence here.

The setting of the church is beautiful. It’s among old trees and alongside an old cemetery. The church has been kept in wonderful condition. The outside and inside were decorated for Christmas.

This is truly one of the prettiest churches I've ever seen, from the outside. We were not able to stop and visit inside because there was a funeral taking place as our tour bus arrived. Out of respect for the family, we didn't stop at all. However, if I'm ever back on this island, I would love to spend time at this church and on the beautiful grounds.

My husband and I really enjoyed this stop, which is closely tied in with the history of the whole island. If you enjoy old graveyards, this one is very interesting. If you like to read, make sure you check out Eugenia Price's St. Simon's trilogy, which is historical fiction. Your trip to the island will be enhanced if you read those books first!

Most people come here for the history. But to me, I thought that the construction was unbelievable. The place was built with pegs and no nails. The wood is heart of pine, very dark brown and is in stained or varnished. This place is something to see.

I am used to wandering the cemetery when the azaleas are in bloom but since this was the beginning of February, the camellias were in bloom instead and were simply breathtaking.

If you like history, mixed with the beauty of a 125 old church, surrounded by a cemetery with graves of folks like Eugenia Price then Christ Church needs to be on your to visit list when you visit St Simons Island. The church is surrounded by beautiful grounds. Across the street is a garden with a memorial to John & Charles Wesley.

If you're a spiritual person or history buff this is worth a visit. The grounds are indescribable. Quiet, Reverent. The wood work on the interior is awesome.

We loved our visit, beautiful location inside and out. Check on the hours before you go as they are somewhat limited.
Lord have mercy the bugs ate us alive while walking the grounds. Take your bug spray and you can enjoy your visit at a more leisurely pace. Be sure to walk the grounds and the cemetery. Fascinating.

It's a little drive to this church, but worth the drive. Even if you can't make the hours it is open, I think it is worth the drive to see the lovely church and attached cemetery. Very picture worthy....

Beautiful grounds, interesting speaker. Church itself is small and very charming. Old white oaks with flowing Spanish moss.

Located right off Frederica Rd connecting St. Simon's and Sea Island this quaint look back to colonial life is a hidden treasure. It is so worth the short drive and a must get out of car and walk the grounds close to the church. The towering live oaks dripping with moss transport you back in time. It is free. It is timeless. It is remarkable.

What a beautiful church the stain glass windows were stunning! There was a cemetery in the back of the church. The trees and flowers were beautiful! It was very peaceful the lady or curator in the church was very helpful with any questions we asked.

What a beautiful and peaceful place to visit! The stained glass windows are so lovely. Make sure to walk through the cemetery. Some of the graves are very old and interesting.

I love visiting old cemeterys and churches. This one had beautiful grounds and the camellias were in bloom.

We enjoyed exploring the interior of the church, and the docent told us much about the history of the church and its staff. Heard about the variety of stained glass windows, which are not to be missed. Learned about several presidents that have attended worship there. My wife is a history buff, and a Eugenia Price fan. That means there were several graves on the grounds that she was very interested in visiting. When we asked the docent about this, she loaned us a hand-drawn map to help us locate the notable graves outside. It also included several pages of material that gave more history and background about the more notable people buried there. The church and grounds was a must-see on our SSI adventure, and we enjoyed every minute of it! Thanks to the church for welcoming visitors and sharing a bit of their history.

Framed by live oak and Spanish Moss as it sits in a 200+ year old cemetery, Christ Church exemplifies the peace and joy we all seek. The grounds are well maintained and the interior of the church with its Tiffany Windows and other stained-glass is as awesome as its exterior. The church is open to the public Tuesday - Friday, 2-5 with docents present to share their knowledge and love of this simple house of worship. Highly recommended!

Having read Eugenia Price's "Lighthouse Trilogy" (a well-researched historical fiction series portraying real people who lived on St. Simons Island), I wanted to see Christ Church and the adjoining cemetery first-hand. The docent at the church was very informative, and the church itself is beautiful, inside and out. The grounds and the cemetery are full of history, and would highly recommend you read the books before visiting the church to maximize the experience.

worth the trip, you won't spend much time there but it has a lot of history and the place is very peaceful

I stopped by here briefly with my 3 year old. We weren't able to take a tour, so we just wandered the grounds. There's a lot of history and it's just fascinating.

This historical church is one of my favorite places to visit on the island. It was built by ship builders and is so amazing, especially inside. The craftsmanship is superb and the Tiffany windows are so beautiful. While I was unable to tour the inside during this visit, I have done so many times in the past. The cemetery is also a favorite. All of the old tombstones are so pretty. I love strolling through the cemetery looking for the gravesite of Eugenia Price. I've found it once, but have been unable to locate it again.

This church is still active. They were doing a funeral when we first arrived so walked around the cemetery for over an hour. The headstones are meticulously engraved and you could spend hours being amazed at the families in each plot. I even found a headstone that may be one of our original family from England.

The church was wonderfully made and has been equally well maintained. If you like historic structures - especially those that exude reverence - then you'll want to make this a must-see during your time on the Island. You should probably call ahead for hours that the church is open to the public for visitation as well as for worship if you're so inclined. Across the street from the church is a beautiful azalea garden to commemorate the work of John and Charles Wesley. You can stroll through the short paths and really enjoy the different varieties when they are in full bloom.

I ride my bike past here every single day. A few weeks ago I drove down and walked around. I grew up a Methodist, and frankly, haven’t been to church in a while. After walking around a bit I realized that this is really a sacred place. It’s beautiful, and it has a connection to my own church through our founder Charles Wesley. I intend to go to a service there as soon as they resume. It really is beautiful

This charming Church is something that time has preserved. Historical grounds where the Wesley brothers actually walked and developed. Attended services here in October and again at Christmas. Great experience!

Make sure to walk the cemetery as it is IMO the feature of St Simons church. Beautiful old oaks - very 'old southern'.

First note the times before you go because we went in the morning and the church was closed until 2 pm. But while there we walked around in the cemetery reading Epitaphs. The next day we returned in the afternoon and we enjoyed the beautiful stained glass windows. A tour bus guide was there sharing history on the Windows. It is a beautiful drive coming from the center of down out to the church.

We sought this one out, after seeing it in the visitor's center book. Was disappointing not to go in, due to covid, but totally understandable! Stood on the beautiful grounds and was transported in my mind back to what it must have been during the victorian days of ladies with their parasols and long dresses mingling about on the church grounds. It was such a beautiful sight. Took pics, but they didn't do it justice! Must see in person!

I love to ride over to the grounds at Christ Church and just roam around the old cemetery and churchyard. With the Spanish moss and the old trees, it is a wonderful picturesque opportunity. Sometime there will be deer darting out. And it is free.
When the church is open, it is a charming and quiet space to sit and meditate,

Beautiful side trip! The church was not open (perhaps due to Covid issues?) it is still worth a stop. It’s very picturesque. Oh, did i mention it was shady?!?! 😀👍

A lovely church and grounds, a must see when visiting. Well maintained. The history has been well preserved.

We visited this church as part of the St Simons Island Trolley tour. The church was closed inside but the garden and cemetery are very lovely and it was great to see the Charles Wesley tree. It is worth visiting and it has a lovely atmosphere

We were pleased to find this church just as remembered. A nearly unbelievably beautiful setting combined with a charming chapel with a historic past.

So impressive awe inspiring atmosphere. Words can't describe how the environment washes over you with its peace

Very nice, quiet location for this historic church with pleasant, cemetery surrounding it. Easy to get to from the city.

Some nice stains glass windows, average insides for churches built at that time. We did not find the attraction should be rated this high. The history how and why this church built was very good.

This place is beautiful and full of history. I didn’t get to take the time I wanted to look around the old cemetery because of rain but what I did see was peaceful. My grandmother said a lot of the characters in Eugenia Price’s books are from out here.

The church is so beautiful. The grounds around the church are a cemetery. Take time to walk around and read the tombstones -- so many of them are from centuries past.

It is a wonderful place to stop and just enjoy the peace and beauty. The heart pine inside of the church was lovely. The volunteer that was there when we visited was great - she had such interesting history and information. The stained glass was beautiful.

Christ Church is open from 2:00-5:00 PM except for Monday's. We stopped on Tuesday where we were greeted by "Frankie" a volunteer. She is wonderful with her history of the Church. She explains the how the church began, the adjacent cemetery and does all this with a bit of humor thrown in. John Wesley was an original minister here and went on to form the Methodist Church.
Across the road from the Church is a gravel walkway leading through a wooded area with an Azalea Garden which was in the early stages of flower. At the end of the garden is the new Methodist Church. From here there is a short walk to Fort Frederica National Monument. We took in all of these areas while parked across the road from Christ Church.
Christ Church is a must stop!

This church is filled with history, past and current. The stained glass windows are beautiful as is the internal woodwork. We stumbled on a volunteer being recorded as she shared the history of the church. The character of various persons connected to the church was interesting, to say the least. The grounds and graveyard are worth time to explore. Saw the saddest sights of our trip to SSI here. It was an infants tomb stone surrounded by a fence giving the appearance of a crib. While I have seen family plots surrounded by fencing in a number of cemeteries, this was the first time I've seen an infant's grave surrounding by fencing the looked like a crib. Broke my heart. This is a 'must see' location

Visitors interested in seeing this beautiful historic church need not attend a service to do so, but I'm glad we did. The interior of the church and the stained glass windows are amazing. The congregation and pastor were very welcoming, too.

You have to make Christ Church as stop when here. You can walk through the historical cemetery and visit the graves of many of the actual people in Eugenia Price's novels as well as the author herself. Make sure you visit the church during open hours as the history of each stained glass window and pews are so mesmerizing . Well manicured and docents are very learned on the church history. They were so friendly and genuinely love their church.

Our first day in St Simons included a stop at this church. It was a stormy afternoon yet rain held off for us to get a quick tour in..Wish we had had more time to peruse the old cemetery surrounding the church..full of history..
Don't miss it when you come to town.

Beautiful church and lots of history here! Totally recommend it to all visitors, especially history buffs!!

The church is lovely. The cemetery is amazing. It is better if you know a little of the history of the area.

My son and I visited the Church and the cemetery, it is a beautiful place. Walking around the cemetery looking at the old markers, was very interesting. TheChurch is beautiful inside and out, hard to believe it has lasted all these years. The couple on duty to give the history were very seeet.

This is a lovely church with an old Cemetary. The grounds are amazing.
Did not take a tour of the church but just walking the area was very special.

We enjoyed wandering through the cemetery and reading the names and dates. Everything was well kept and clean.

This church is in very close proximity to Fort Federico and is definitely worth a stop.Loved walking the property and checking out all the old gravestones. The inside of the church quaint and beautiful.

We always visit Christ Church when we come to St Simons. We love to walk around the cemetery because of the serene, aesthetic, peaceful feeling we get. It is definitely something to see. Bring your camera!

Was told about this church during the Trolly tour and had to come back. Would highly recommend visiting. It's open to the public Tuesday-Sunday 2-5pm.

I visit St. Simon's about six times a year and have done so for over 30 years. I try to always visit this beautiful quaint episcopal church. It looks like a picture on a postcard. The setting is utterly serene. The surrounding cemetery is filled with historical graves. It is well maintained and easy to navigate. The large "Wesley Oak" once stood majestically near the entrance. Hymnist Charles Wesley, brother of John Wesley the founder of Methodism, preached and prayed beneath the oak. There stands an historical marker to remember the site. Google the marker to gain the full significance of the oak.

On the way to see Fort Frederica, definitely stop by and visit Christ Church. Even if you miss the tour, the grounds are gorgeous and the cemetery VERY interesting!

it's the birthplace of the methodist church. old mossy draped faded oak court yard is smack dab on the road with historical markers. not much to see past the wesley oak, but an historic site if ever there was one.

The church and grounds are pretty but closed for COVID. We did NOT get to see the inside. You can walk the grounds which is basically a cemetery.
Total time spent, on site, 10 minutes.
It is 1/10 a mile from the Fredrick Fort National Monument, we stopped after touring the Fort.

Christ Church is just a lovely church. It was built in 1820 and partially destroyed by Union troops. It was rebuilt 1884. The frame work and interior do not contain any nails. Most of the work was completed by ship builders. The stain glass windows are a delight. The grave yard is well worth a stroll. It too is lovely and well kept. Services are still held on Sunday and the church is closed to visitors on Monday. Any other day after 2:00, there should be some there to are as a guide inside the church.

We actually went to Christ Church because of a book we read about the original lighthouse. Believe me it was worth seeing. I love history so I loved the history of the church. The graveyard and the windows alone made it worth the visit. Actually it was November 2015 but that was not on the list.

Could not go in because a service was in progress. The outside grounds are beautiful and well kept. I wish we had more time to look around but we had to get back. Will be coming back.

If you are in the area, you must make the short drive through the beautiful shaded roads, to see Christ Church. Regardless of your age or your religious preference, this is one place where Life, Death, Mother Nature, History and Religion are all at peace. The docent was wonderful; sharing lots of knowledge and history. Although, I did not find a family name here, I certainly enjoyed the walk through the Memorial garden and adjacent area.

I have been here many times over the years and I never get tired of it's beauty. I'm sure if you visit you will fall in love with this place.

Picturesque and historical church among the live oaks of St Simons Island. Congregation established 1737. John Wesley served as rector. Surrounded by cemetery with many notable names from the early days of the island. We were there in the morning and did not go inside, as the church does not open until later in the day.

The church has one stained glass window made and installed by Tiffany. All of them feature rich, dense colors and intricate designs. Presidents have worshiped here. The cemetery is also impressive.

I grew up in the Episcopal Church and have heard about CCF for a long time. Built in 1820, it is the second oldest church in the Georgia Colony. The cemetery dates back to 1803. The sanctuary is open for visitors at 2:00PM on most days. A docent will explain the history and stain glass windows in the church. Go...it's quiet and beautiful

The many, many novels of Eugenia Price can help you plan your trip here. As you walk through the cemetery of Christ Church and Frederica Church, you see the grave sites of many of the people from those novels. It is a must see.

This church is a beautiful place as well as historic cemetery and right across the street from the Wesley memorial and Gardens. Both worth the visit.
We took part of the afternoon to meander through and read the headstones. They say if you come at twilight, you might encounter a restless spirit or two, I have no doubt!

We have been coming to St Simons for the month of Oct since 2009. We love going to church here and just visiting the grounds. We find the service to be uplifting, the people friendly, just a soul opening experience.
The grounds are well kept and just plain beautiful. They offer tours and open their doors to visitors during the week. You would need to check their website for exact dates and times.✝️. At least go visit the grounds and walk amongst the stones

I grew up in the Methodist church. It was amazing to see a place where the Wesley brothers preached prior to the founding of the Methodist church. The entire grounds look like a movie set, just picture perfect inside and out. The stained glass windows inside are also a highlight. In the rear of the church is very interesting cemetery.

Great place to take the Kids at night for ghost stories. Live Oaks fantastic graveyard. I have not attended service there but what a historic landmark.

Really pretty church on the inside. The grounds are interesting as well. Not worth more than 20-30 minutes. Primarily an attraction for older folks

A beautiful, serene and interesting place, surrounded by grand oak trees and a fascinating cemetery. We wished we could see the inside of the church. It looks like a charming place to worship.

Having read many of Eugenia Prices' novels about this part of Georgia, it was amazing to see the actual burial spots of so many of the characters in her novels, dating back to the mid-18th and 19th centuries. Don't miss this.

As Methodist we appreciate the historical nature of the church and grounds. While staying at the Methodist facility “,&Epworth by the Sea we learn more of mJohn Weseley the founder of our faith. It gave me great appreciation of his work in the southern part of our nation.

Very friendly and hospitable clergy and members. We felt welcomed immediately. An historic landmark that is current with today's world.

We stopped by here one afternoon when it was not open for visitors. When we walked up to the door someone came out and said we are opening up because a tour bus is a bout to come by. If you would like to come in now you’re welcome to. What a delight! We were able to speak to the lady for about 30 minutes before the tour group got there. Such a friendly lady and very informative. We were the only ones in the church. I bought a cookbook before leaving because I wanted to support them. Such great history in this church that the Wesley brothers used to preach at… (On the grounds, under the oaks before the church was built). This was probably my favorite place to visit on the island. We were able to wander through the cemetery as well. Such beautiful grounds!

The history of St Simons Island is in this church and its graveyard. Having a very active congregation, it is maintained in a pristine way with the most beautiful grounds on the island - camelias, etc. Its history is the island's history! The church itself has very well informed docents ( volunteers) in the afternoons to give talks and answer all of your questions.

We enjoyed walking the grounds and looking at the various grave markers, some very old. While we could not go inside the church, the grounds and exterior were beautiful.

The church is beautiful. So peaceful. Was disappointed the website said open 2-5 was there at 330 doors all locked.

We visited after I had read some of the Eugenia Price books. The cemetery is absolutely beautiful, and rich with history. We enjoyed reading the inscriptions on the tombstones.

Rumored to be the most photographed Church in Georgia, and for good reason. It is situated under beautiful oak trees and also has a historic graveyard. Eugenia Price is among the many who permanently rest here. The grounds are beautiful and inside the Church is just as beautiful.
Brilliant stained glass and pews that have seen several presidents of the US are here.
Stop and admire the beauty that is Christ Church!

This church is so welcoming. Our volunteer was excited to share the history with us and get the Littles engaged. Worth a quick visit, then head to Ft. Frederica down the road - all free!

This church is quite pretty. They had a service going on, so we did not go inside. The outside though, was good enough for our visit. Wonderful place for a photographer, and the history was quite amazing!

Captain Rod St Simons ColonialTrolley Tours provides the best informative history lesson of the island.

Lots of history. Presidents have come here. Beautiful inside. Stain glass is Wonderful. They have an excellent cook book put together by their congregation and for a donation of 20.00 you can have it. Well worth is because it also has pictures of all the Stain Glass inside.

Church it’s self is closed due to COVID-19 restrictions. However, the grounds and cemetery are worth the visit. Beautiful with the azaleas in bloom. Lots of parking available along the road. Huge live oaks provide plenty of shade.

Stopped by without knowing too much about it. Lady there gave a very nice talk about the history and explained the construction. Beautiful workmanship as it was built by shipwrights.
Grounds were nice to walk through with graves dating as far back as revolutionary ( oldest we found at east) to modern day.

This is an interesting place to visit if you like checking out old gravesites. I'm a little surprised its so highly rated on here though. The church is pretty small with a beautiful old stain glass window, but its not much more than a 5-minute visit. The cemetery has many of the most prominent people of the islands early years buried there. Definitely worth a stop, but I'm not sure I'd list it as the top "thing to do" in St. Simon's Island.

Cozy and welcoming - surrounded by history. Be sure and walk through the graveyard. The author Eugenia Price is buried there.

Couldn't get into the church. It has very lovely grounds. It had a bunch of old huge Oaks. Learned about the history of the church. It was very interesting story.

We wee there for a family funeral. It was our first visit and it was very nice and very interesting. The funeral was the focus when we were ther but we went back by and it is fascinating

While the church was closed for a religious service-a walk though the cemetery with our guide's commentary - was a brief narrative of the significant historical figures of the island.

The beauty of this landmark is excellent. The giant oaks and the beauty of the grounds are something you need to see if visiting on the island. There are volunteers in the building in the day light hours to share the history of the church.

Be sure you visit but check the schedule for times church is open in the current pandemic. Even if you can not visit the inside of church , the grounds and graveyard are wonderful.

Very beautiful grounds and interesting cemetery. Be sure to take the walking path to the monument. Entrance was hidden in the parking lot. Christ Church was closed to visitors due to pandemic restrictions.

Stopped here as part of our trolley tour. Lovely old church with a lot of history. If you go at the right time you can actually go into the sanctuary and view the stained glass , along with the rest of the church.

Church and stained glass windows are exquisite. The cemetery is so full of history. The tombstone can tell you so much

Took the Colonial Trolley Tour and CAPT Rod provided a great trip down thru history of this little treasure. Went back later in day..open 2-4 for visitors and wandered around the beautiful oaks...chatted with one of the members inside to gain more trivia about the building..origins..congregation..stained glass windows and roamed thru the souls in cemetery out back who lived on this isle thru the years..quiet and beautiful spot to wander and reflect.

We stop here whenever we're on the Island. Its peaceful to sit inside for a few minutes, ask questions of the docent, go outside to visit Eugenia Price grave site.

This place dates back to the Civil War. It’s history speaks loudly to you as you walk the outdoor cemetery. Beautifully maintained.

This is a must see visit whenever you are on the Island. Whatever your faith you cannot help but marvel at the massive live oak trees covered in spanish moss! The church is a historic treasure!

We toured the inside of the Church and the cemetery, absolutely fascinating! There is so much history within the walls of the Church as well as in the cemetary. They are well maintained and the grounds are beautifully landscaped. Allow 45 minutes to an hour to see both.

Interesting, historic and ice looking church on St. Simon. Be sure to have a docent or guide to cover the history of this place.

I don't believe you can tour inside currently, but it is worth a visit here to walk around the grounds. It is just utterly lovely and serene. I read on the sign that during Covid times they are holding some services outside and I can't imagine a more fitting place to worship than this majestic example of God's creation under the canopy of trees. Just beautiful.

A very good history lesson. Give yourself about an hour to fully enjoy your adventure. Take your time.

The grounds are just beautiful! Our tour guide was so gracious and we loved learning about the history of this church! Ride a bike there and then continue onto Fort Frederica.

This is a very historic beautiful church. They sy=till have services. The inside is small but the windows are amazing.

On a recent girls trip we visited the church and cemetery. The grounds are beautiful! The cemetery is the resting place of many patriarchs of St simons island history and the inspiration of a trilogy by Eugenia Price. The weather was perfect for the visit.
Highly recommend for history buffs.

During a recent visit to St Simon's, we stopped to visit the gravesite of my husbands cousin. I was blown away by the beauty of the location. The trees are amazingly beautiful and we actually spent time looking at the gravesites just to enjoy the beauty.

The church is beautiful and the grounds are meticulously maintained. We always enjoy walking around the cemetery. Very beautiful.

Loved the church but mainly came to see the cemetery with notable gravestones, incl Eugenia Price, a novelist I used to love. Took a while but finally found her grave. Across the street is John Wesley memorial, a noted hymn writer. This was the most interesting thing we did while on the island! Artists were all over the grounds painting which was also beautiful. A must-see!

This iconic church on St. Simons Island is a not to be missed spot whether you are a history buff or not. The beautiful wood in the church and surrounding gardens are sure to please everyone.

This is a beautiful place. So rich in history and simply lovely. I can’t imagine visiting the island and missing this stop

Our trolley tour stopped here and we walked to the church and around the cemetery where our guide, Kevin, filled us in on some of the residents buried here.
The trees and lawns were breathtaking! Beauty and history intermingled for a great visit.

Visiting this historic church was informative, with two current members giving brief talks. If you like church history this is a good place to visit.

Beautiful church and interesting history. As you step inside the attendant gives a brief history of the church and how it was built. Walking through the cemetery you will find a number of very old graves. The most interesting was a Revolutionary War soldier, a Confederate soldier and one we believe may be a British soldier as a British flag was flying on this grave.

This tour included this site, It stopped at the church and the guide walked us to the church from a parking location across from the church. My wife and I were expecting a tour of the inside of the church. This was not included in the tour price of $20.00 a head. this toue was mostly a drive around the island with the tour guide doing a lot of talking about the history of the island. I would not recommend this tour.

Loved the quaint charm of this wooden church. Pews uncomfortable. Walking through the cemetery was peaceful. Loved the Jones Family plot with alabaster marble statue of boy getting splinter from his foot.

This church is breathtaking and full of history. Definitely the highlight of my trip to the island. I missed the opportunity to go inside by 10 minutes which was a bummer but i took advantage of the afternoon lighting and just photographed the property instead. No doubt i will be back with my husband on many occassions!

Great church to stop by. Architecture and grounds are pretty. Glad we made the stop. Great photo ops.

One of my favorite places on the island. If you have ever read Eugenia Price's trilogy about the island you will want to come here for sure.

Lots of history here! So I would recommend for people that would like to tour the church as well as the grounds and graveyard.

Wonderful docent gave us a history of this intimate historical church with beautiful woodwork and stained glass windows. The cemetery is peaceful and beautiful, especially in full bloom in March. A peaceful way to spend an hour or so!

This is a beautiful church building. It was well worth the time to visit it and read it's history. Know a little about the history of the church, (take the tour of the fort first) will make it much more interesting.

Another gem of a stop if history of the island is what you're looking for. I highly recommend Capt Rod's trolley tour before your visit as he shares the history of the church and the story of the first minister and his family. The guide inside the church provided additional info especially about the beautiful stained glass windows. A peaceful, beautiful place to visit.

This is a very pretty church in a very peaceful location. We walked the grounds and it is kept meticulously.

Love to visit this gorgeous church and the grounds surrounding it. It is meticulously kept and manicured. Very serene environment.

It is in a beautiful, peaceful setting. The grave sites are both old and contemporary. Setting is with old beautiful oak trees and flowering shrubs.

Charming Church. Hospitable. Located not too far out of town. Worth going to see. Spend some time in the cemetery.

Such a lovely and well maintained church with beautiful stained glass windows. The guide was so informative and much history was provided.

Don't miss this one. There are many beautiful stained glass windows, each one unique with an interesting story behind. The architecture is impressive and also has an interesting story. When you go, make sure that you take the time to meet with the docent to take full advantage of the stories behind the church.

Christ Church is an friendly, Episcopal church that feels enchanted because of the lovely oak trees, hanging moss and very old and lovely cemetery. The inside of the church is small, but so warm with all the beautiful stained and varnished wood and the lovely stained glass in the windows. A feel-good place.

I have been to Christ Church Frederica many time over the years. My fascination began when I read The Beloved Invader by Eugenia Price when I was young. My mom took me for the first time soon after and my husband and I make it a yearly tradition to visit it from the other side of the state. It is a magical, mysterious, and beautiful place. We hope to actually attend a service there soon. But we usually go just to walk around and experience the atmosphere, history, and beauty.

We spent maybe an hour here, looking at the exterior of the church and wandering through the cemetery. Very well maintained and beautiful grounds. A nice, peaceful stop for us at the end of a busy day. NOTE: I believe we saw sings that it was closed Mondays for maintenance and grounds keeping so you may want to double check before going on those days.

Visited here while in town and this place is just gorgeous. So peaceful. Don't miss the gardens just off from the parking across from the church.

Christ Church is a beautiful historic church with a very interesting cemetery and grounds filled with old live oak trees. Our grandkids enjoyed the visit but we were unable to see the inside of the church as there was a service going on at the time. Would like to visit again.

We only visited the grounds, but the place is absolutely beautiful to see and very peaceful for a stroll. Easy to access.

This is a must see! This church is beautiful with all the magnificent stained glass throughout that depict various stories from the Bible! We also enjoyed strolling through the cemetery! I love reading the beautiful inscriptions on the older headstones! I highly recommend taking the Colonial Trolley tour with Rod before visiting all the beautiful locations here!! He gives so much history and shares lots of stories about the locals of times past and also points out many places of interest as well as best places to grab some delicious food!

Great history around this area. Landscape is breathtaking. First time on east coast golden islands. Cemetery is a must.

Beautiful church and the story behind it as related by our guide was a testimony to true and enduring love

the grounds of the Christ Church are inviting to stroll through .. see the history of the cemetary .. sit quietly or investigate the architecture .. stroll the nature paths for secluded treasures of history

A beautiful place to see regardless! I nice stroll on a beautiful day. Check out the path across the street too.

We were able to visit while the church was open and the docent was present to tell us the history of the church. Glad we were able to see the inside and hear the history!

Beautiful stained glass windows. The heart pine paneling installed with wonderful craftsman ship. This history surrounding the history since 1820 is mesmerizing.

The docent/volunteer did an excellent job recounting the history of the church. The grounds, as well as the building, were worth seeing.

There is so much history in this church, make sure to visit when you can get a docent to give a tour. This is still an active church with many loyal members. The Church has been taken care of very well. The grounds are beautiful. The alter and stain glass are lovely.

Had a very knowledgeable docent that had all the facts at his fingertips. A beautiful and peaceful place indeed.

This is one of those must-sees on Saint Simons, a gorgeous church with hand constructed wood beautifully aged and stained glass windows, one of which is Tiffany. The staff was very helpful and the surrounding ceremony contains historic graves, including that of author Eugenia Price.

We couldn't go inside due to COVID but walked over from Fort Frederica parking lot and toured the grounds and cemetery. Nice, quick visit if you have time and are in the area.

Love this church and the history. It's a must visit if your are in the area. Beautiful trees. Check hours of operation so you can go inside church.

This is one of my favorite spots on St. Simon's and the whole east coast. The building is over 140 years and was built by hand without nails. The craftsmanship is incredible. They open up the building through the week in the afternoons. It's well worth it to go inside. The stained glass windows are awesome. The grounds and cemetery are quiet and peaceful. Live oaks and Spanish Moss are everywhere. A scene from a beautiful post card.

Bell ringer practice was going on while we visited. It was fun to watch. Walked the grounds and also took a trail across the road from the Church. Ample parking.

This is a beautiful place with lots of history. There are people on hand to give you a mini tour and lots of history. There is a large cemetery outside with many very old headstones. The huge old oak trees are beautiful. I would have liked to have spent more time there but we were run off by heavy lightning.

Have not been to St. Simons for years. We love the history and Christ Church is such an amazing place for peace and quiet. Many graves are of famous people from the Island.

Beautiful church and grounds. Although we were unable to go inside - we enjoyed walking around the grounds and the old cemetery.

The docent knew her stuff. We went back there during the open hours. We had been by there previously with the Trolley tour.

This small church building is a living community that has beautiful grounds and a well kept cemetery. It had the spiritual feel of peace and grace and the docents were friendly and helpful. My wife and I find churches like this with cemeteries places where the spirituality is alive and exciting.

This is such a unique place to visit. Very old cemetery with lots of history. Helps if you read Eugenia Price’s novels about St. Simons Island first. Very good weather the day we visited

We enjoyed our visit here and were very impressed with this beautiful little church. It is so unique and beautiful inside. The stained glass came all the way from Munich Germany.
Make sure you take note of the presidential seats where presidents carter and bush 41 sat. We even purchased 2 of the Christ church cook books that were for sale, we plan to use them as Christmas gifts. Very unique with pictures of the church and stained glass and filled with wonderful southern recipes. This is a must visit in this area.

We had hoped to get a chance to visit the inside of the church when we arrived on the morning of October 11, 2019, but it was closed and did not open for several hours. We did walk around the church grounds and cemetery plots, which were quite beautiful and well maintained. If we ever go back to St. Simons for a visit, we will certainly try and schedule a stopover here when we know the church will be open for a tour.

This is a lovely small Episcopalian Church with gorgeous stained glass windows. It is very small but extremely interesting and the cemetery has a lot of history of the area due to famous residents buried there.

Come here every time we come to the island beautiful building and location Love to wonder around the cemetery If you like history you will enjoy this

After a pleasant walk through the unusual graveyard, we were pleased to find a Docent inside the church who was able to give us a history of the building and the stained glass windows.

The church has a lot of history and information. The stain glass windows have interesting stories on the colors in the design and what country they came from. One window is a Tiffany glass..

The suite was decorated beautifully, view gorgeous, staff accomodating, history and culture of the island awesome.

There is a whole story behind this church and it is very interesting, including Love and Death and Civil War. Grounds are humbling, inside is overwhelming with beaty and spirituality.

This was one of the stops on the city tour and the history of this little church was fascinating. We couldn't go inside, unfortunately, but had a chance to walk around the grounds and visit the cemetery in the back.

Such a breathtaking place to visit and explore. From the beautiful live oaks to the old headstones and amazing chapel it's worth the ride out to see it in person.

This is a place that has stories from the past that are whispered in the silence as you sit in the pews with the afternoon sun illuminating the beautiful stained glass windows. The docent there was very sweet and connected to the history of the place. It is very peaceful and restful there, a step back in time.

It is a picture perfect setting and the inside is worth the wait to enter if necessary the surrounding cemetery grounds are interesting and well maintained. Well woth a stop and visit.

We were carried back in time by our walk through the historic cemetery where many of the St. Simons Island historical figures are buried. This site exudes the feeling of history, time long since passed. The grounds are populated with many moss-draped oak trees and a historic Episcopal Church.

This was a beautiful little church on a quiet road, sort of hidden away, but full of historic treasures. Just look at the names and dates on the many tombstones in the church yard!

Had a brief lecture and tour, it is a small but beautiful example of a anglican church, amazing windows, great cook book to buy which I did for a shower gift for a bride.
they are not available on Mondays save your money and find this place yourself and visit. i

The site would have likely rated five stars, however the church buildings were closed to the public on the day of my visit. The Cemetary is full of old mighty oak trees adorned with Spanish moss. The grounds have pathways throughout, and it’s serene and peaceful to stroll while marveling the historic gravestones and family markers. If you’re in the area, stop by. You won’t be disappointed.

I had this site on my bucket list for St. Simons visit. It is beautifully kept and the history is so encouraging. It was well worth my visit.

I have been to Christ Church dozens of times during my life. I started going there as a teenager after I read the Eugenia Price Book "The Beloved Invader". The story is based on actual people that lived, loved and died on St. Simons Island and are buried in the cemetery at Christ Church. The property and cemetery are full of history and as you walk among the ancient oak trees and realize the history there, it makes this beautiful site more breath taking. The cemetery with its statues and old headstones tell their own stories and are mesmerizing. The church is well kept, and while old - not ancient. I went this year at Christmas and loved the simply, elegant style that adorned the lamp posts, doors and windows. It is also wonderful to know that you are walking on land that was walked upon by the founders of Methodism - John and Charles Wesley and of course James Oglethorpe. Take your time, but as a local I would also say - choose your time for a visit wisely. The humid, heat of summer - along with the gnats and flies - would make this pleasant afternoon activity, MISERABLE. Even a natural born Georgia girl has problems here during the summer! While there, also make a trip across the road and walk through the quiet of the woods to the Wesley garden. Have a great afternoon enjoying this quaint and holy place.

Love the looks of this church and the grounds in sets on. Also love the cemetery. I think this was our third time to visit the church. We have never been to the church when services were in session and have never been able to go inside but I'm sure it's beautiful! I had the first film photo I took of this church (back in the 70s) blown up to a large canvas, had it framed and it's hanging in our dining room.

We visited at a time the church was not open. We did stroll through the grounds and old cemetery. It was very interesting and the grounds were well maintained. For us, it was a good place to get a feel of the island.

The tour of the grounds of this church was during our trolley tour with St. Simons Trolley Island Tours. This is still a very active church that holds worship services, weddings, and funerals.
The grounds are primarily of the graves of influential people or historical people of the island. The grounds are well-maintained and treasured by the island's residents.

This is a lovely place to visit if you enjoy history, beautiful flowers, and old architecture. Look for several famous people.

We visited Christ Church during a trolley tour, but drove back later to spend more time in the church and cemetery. It is a lovely place to quietly walk around and take in the history.

Worth stopping in to see . The docent was very informative and made our visit even more special by sharing her knowledge .

Amazing story and history. This is a place not to be missed. Take a trolley there and walk around and learn.

Worth a stop to see the church and cemetery. John Wesley preached on the grounds. A beautiful south Georgia coastal setting.

If one loves cemeteries they will enjoy this one. Well maintained with peaceful, cool setting. Even though they were maintaining the grounds on a Tuesday the cemetery was open.

Worth a visit. The grounds were lovely and well maintained. The interior of the church is small but spectacular. Beautiful stained glass windows and original woodwork.

I would have loved to have attended services there. Much history with a beautiful setting. The cemetery basically surrounds the church. The grounds are well manicured. It is one of the oldest churches in the country

This church and the grounds are beautiful pretty much year round. Inside you'll see some of the most interesting stained glass brought here many many years ago. The cemetery is interesting too. Some of the headstones date back to the early. 1800's! Very peaceful area.

Very lovley and historal for the Methodust Church. Don't miss all of the headstones in the gardens surrounding the church.

This is a charming and intimate christian church where everyone is welcomed. Flowers beautiful except during Lent. Music inspiring with several choirs, bell choir and concerts throughout the year. I felt at home the first time I visited Christ Church.

The grounds here at Christ Church are absolutely stunning. The cemetery itself is well taken care of and there is a lot of history here. The detail within the church is fantastic and this should be a must stop for anyone to enjoy the peace and beautiful sights here.

I could have spent 4 hours here. It is beautiful. The historic cemetery grounds were well kept and a joy to walk around in.

A wonderful drive at the end of the island worth the drive, get out and walk around the graveyard, go inside and see the small but beautiful working church

Initially, we stopped to see the Wesley Oak in front of the church. We ended up walking through the cemetary which was fascinating and obviously well tended. This little church is marvelous!! The stained glass and wood work is exceptional. The craftsmanship of the building is phenomenal. Take an hour and make the stop.

Some things on Saint Simons have not changed since I first vacationed here many decades ago. This is a beautiful spot.

Beautiful church inside and out with a rich history. Spend time walking around the cemetery on the church grounds.

It was a rainy day when we were there but still very enjoyable. The church is beautiful and we listened to guide tell the story behind the church. The grounds are well kept and the trees are awesome. Some of the graves date back to the 1700's.

Christ Church provides a quiet spot to take a stroll through beautifully kept grounds housing a cemetery. The grounds (cemetery) are large enough where couples or groups of people are not right on top of each other. The church is open from 2-5 pm. A great place to visit to have a moment of reflection and peace.

The stained glass windows of this church are so ornate and beautiful. The grounds are finely manicured and the old cemetery is interesting with it's history. The only complaint was that we had to return on a different day and time because we were not aware of the hours. The church is only open Tuesday -Saturday from 2-5 and of course we were originally there Monday morning.LOL It was worth returning to to see the beauty of the church and it's stained glass windows,

Christ Church is surrounded by beautiful grounds with many majestic live oaks. The first church on this site was built in 1820, but was partially destroyed during the Civil War. The present building was erected in 1884. The grounds contain a cemetery with graves dating back to the colonial period and the Civil War.
The church itself is a beautiful old historic building. It is open to the public (I don't remember the exact days of the week) however we were not able to take a tour inside.
It is on the way to Fort Frederica so it you are headed to the fort beside to stop at least for a few minutes to visit this historic site on St. Simons, Island.

After being cooped up for three months, we were ready to get out of Dodge. We decided on St. Simon's Island because it is a comfortable three-hour drive from Hilton Head Island and because of the many historic sightseeing opportunities.
Christ Church was listed as the top sightseeing attraction on the island. Since the church is closed on Monday, we planned to visit on Tuesday. We were told by a church employee that the church is closed to all activities because of Covid but we were welcomed to stroll the cemetery grounds. The church was built by Anson Dodge in memory of his wife who died on their honeymoon. They are buried in Christ Church Cemetery.
The parish’s first worship service dates to 1736 when James Oglethorpe’s colonists settled in the area. Fort Frederica is a short drive from the church. The first church structure was built in 1820. It was partially destroyed by the Union troops in the Civil War and later rebuilt in 1884.
We explained that we were interested in the SSI historical novelist, Eugenia Price, who we knew was buried in the cemetery. The church employee pointed us in the direction of her grave along with that of her best friend, Joyce Blackburn. Eugenia wrote an SSI trilogy, the first of which is “Lighthouse.” The novel is based on the lighthouse builder and first keeper, James Gould, who along with other Gould family members, graves of early settlers, and many famous Georgians are buried there. We are keeping a list of the characters in the novel and plan to return to the cemetery to find those graves. The cemetery’s oldest tombstone dates from 1803. We spent about an hour strolling the grounds. We were successful in finding the Price and Blackburn graves. I only wish we had already read Price’s books to fully understand the stories behind the names of her characters buried in this lovely cemetery.
The church is perfectly situated for other historic sightseeing; both the Wesley Memorial Gardens and Fort Frederica National Monument are within a few minutes drive from Christ Episcopal Church.

Our tour was personalized and very informative. We had no idea there was so much history to be found. Four "sitting" President's have attended services here. The church itself is also quite lovely, with stained glass windows that add to the history.

the grounds are absolutely gorgeous, and exactly what one pictures for a Georgia church and cemetery!

Staffed by volunteers, this is an excellent stop and you'll be amazed at the beauty that lies within.

The church was old and was open at 2pm on Saturday. We saw it originally while doing a trolley tour and went back. Cemetery surrounding church also very old and interesting. Worth the stop.

Recently visited with English visitors and they absolutely loved it.
Impressive from the outside, do try to visit on a weekday after 2.00pm when it’s normally open and attended by a volunteer who will explain its history and point out things of particular interest, such as the stunning stained glass windows.
Well worth a visit.

We toured the grounds and the cemetery; we visited in the morning and the interior isn't open until afternoon. There was also a walk off the parking area across the street from the church which we weren't able to take, but plan to on a future visit.

Stopped here as part of a trolley tour of the island, beautiful well-kept historic church and cemetery outside!

This is an historic church worth a quick visit if you’re visiting Fort Fredricka which is right next to it. It’s surrounded by an historic cemetery.

Beautiful grounds and setting. Church was closed. Very large cemetery with very old grave markers. Interesting.

There's an interesting story behind the creation of this beautiful little chapel. It's a bit tragic with the pastor who founded the church marrying his first cousin despite his family's wishes. Tragedy followed.

We stopped at Christ Church after visiting Fort Frederica, which is just next door. The original church dates back to the settlement of Georgia, and hosted historical figures like John and Charles Wesley. The church has been rebuilt since colonial days, but still offers beautiful stained glass windows and an old cemetery. The cemetery even has the grave of a Revolutionary War soldier. You can visit the grounds any time of day, but the church is open for viewing from 2-5 PM only. Admission is free.

I have visited Christ Church many times. It never disappoints. The church is beautiful, the setting is picturesque. Once you read Eugenia Prices trilogy on St. Simons it is fun to wander through the cemetery and find the names of the characters from her books.

Christ Church is a beautiful old church on Saint Simons Island. Be sure to stop by when the church is open. While the grounds and outside are beautiful, the inside is fantastic and you don't want to miss it. It's one of the oldest churches in Georgia. A must stop. Also, follow the patch across the street to the Wesley Memorial and Gardens.

As a semi native I have a semi relative interred in Christ Church and several full relatives in Oglethorpe at the beginning of the road. My history on the island goes back to the late 60's and although I wasn't born in Glynn County I still feel like I'm a part of the island and it's always been a part of me. I remember the draw bridges and lack of pavement in Sea Palms and St. Claire. Crabbing in the Black Banks and relaxing on the Spit. Locals know these places and they are a part of my history. I am in the process of a return and am looking forward to introducing my kids to the greatness of SSI, the pink chapel, the witches grave and its curse and all the ghosts in Christ Church cemetery. SSI has a lot a secrets that most folks don't know.....

This is one of those churches that you see on your journey and have to stop to look at. It's old architecture and history make this a great and exciting place

This little church is at the heart of the history of Saint Simons Island. It is surrounded by beautiful old Live Oak trees, dripping with Spanish moss. The inside of the church is simple but fits the style of the island. The stained glass windows are remarkable. Several US presidents and dignitaries have worshipped here. Behind the church are the graves of the old families of Saint Simons, including many dating back to the Civil War and the Revolutionary War. It is a lovely place to contemplate the beauty of Saint Simons and to settle your soul.

We were not able to go inside, but the outside is beautiful. It is actually a cemetery which might be of some interest.

Lots of history! Loved the tour. Hope the damage from Hurricane Mathew gets repaired soon. Mostly cemetery church was spared.

What a wonderful location. We enjoyed strolling through the cemetery (my wife not so much) and getting a sense of the history here.

We stopped here on our trolley tour and got to see the inside of the church as well as some of the cemetery out back. There was a docent inside the church who was very nice and was able to answer all of our questions. The tour guide said they have someone there any time the church is open except during church services. It was a little sad to see the damage from Hurricane Matthew but at least it wasn't worse. I wish we had some more time here and it's definitely going to be worth a trip back.

Gorgeous church full of history. Everyone was friendly and willing to answer any question you might have. One of the most peaceful places.

Christ Church, on St. Simons Island, is definitely worth visiting. I was only able to go there on a Monday, when the church and grounds are closed for maintenance and upkeep. In spite of this, I felt very fortunate to be there. The grounds are beautiful, the church is quaint, and the plaques strategically placed along the front stone wall bordering the grounds provide excellent historical information and perspective. What’s more, right across the street is a Methodist Church worth visiting; next door is Fort Frederica Monument; and just down the road is a gorgeous garden dedicated to the brothers John and Charles Wesley, who were founding clergymen/preachers on the island...If I’m ever lucky enough to be on St. Simons Island again, I’ll be sure to revisit this spectacular site.

If you’ve read any Eugenia Price novels this is a must see. It’s a beautiful church and grounds and Eugenia Price as well as many of the people see wrote about are buried here.

We toured the Island with Light House Trolley's and our guide Dick Gardner, stopped here and we were allowed inside the church. It is absolutely beautiful. History goes back into the 1700's. There is a lot of history in the cemetery also. This place is just awesome.

Walking around the grounds and looking at the church was interesting. The head stones and grave yard are very interesting.

Visiting this church was a very special experience since I had just completed THE BELOVED INVADER by Eugenia Price. This historical novel reveals the story of Anson Dodge's love of the two women who became his wives and his faith that prompted him to become the minister of this chapel. All are buried in the historic graveyard. The windows rival even those from Chartres! True beauty and inspiring docents.

This Cemetery has many old headstones, and is well-kept. The grounds have many old trees--stately live oaks, and other hardwoods. The shrubs and flowers are beautiful, and the atmosphere reverent and reflective.
The author, Eugenia Price, is buried here. She is the novelist who wrote a trilogy of St. Simons Island. A visit here is well-worth the time.

I truly enjoyed this church and would love to attend service there one day. It’s a wonderful place of God. Several presidents have been to service there. The original Priest Dodge and his wife Anna’s story and life are remarkably humbling. Read up on them before going. They are buried almost directly behind the church.
Also, there is a monument to the Wesley brothers. They preached under an oak tree that is still standing on The Christ Church grounds.

Very pretty but small church. We arrived with a tour. Stained glass and beautiful wood work inside. Old cemetry outside.

We couldn’t go in because of Covid, but it was still a beautiful place to explore the grounds outside the church. It’s definitely worth stopping by to check out the history of the place.

The grounds were gorgeous and the church was very pretty. Right across the street you can walk through the Wesley Gardens and we enjoyed that as well.

This was a beautiful church with a nice guide. The cemetery was very old. My Aunt and mother were very impressed with seeing Eugenia Price's grave.

This is a very pretty church but I'm particularly fond of the old graves. I am not a ghoul but I imagine all kinds of stories when I notice birth and death dates within a family. I'm sure Eugenia Price could have done justice to the stories hinted at by those dates.

This church was such a beautiful place to visit. We were there a little before evening prayer and got to talk to some of the Members. They were so welcoming. There was a playground for our children to play on as well.

A must see for Eugenia Price readers. Beautiful, peaceful setting. Amazing construction of this wooden church. Many stain glass windows in a small church.

We went to see the location of this church on our way home, was easy to locate, but did not have time to go inside. Lovely grounds., not too far from American Author- Eugenia Price home.

Absolutely beautiful. Peaceful. We went one evening right after it had rained at dusk. There is a serenity there that is incomprehensible. A friend spooked a deer family. We saw a red bird.

Beautiful grounds-church closed with COVID. Lovely spot and names on headstones reflect all the history of the island. Never did find Eugenia Price's grave but may try again.

Church and cemetery are both worth seeing. The inside of the church is spectacular and the grounds and monuments are worth a stroll.

This is a beautiful place to visit. Study up on some of the related ghost stories to make your visit more interesting. The one about the candle on the grave is rather heart-warming.

I absolutely love coming here. The grounds are so peaceful and the historical cemetery behind the church is like stepping back in time. The church has the most beautiful stained glass windows and The Christmas floral decorations both inside and out were outstanding. This is a must see if you're visiting the island.

Beautiful. Volunteer docents of the church gave excellent, informative talks individually and for groups. Really enjoyed the stained glass windows and the monument to the Wesleys.

Highly recommended to visit. Goes back to the revolutionary war with unique stories of the people involved with the church. Beautiful inside with all the wood and stained glass windows. A must see. It is on the trolly tour.

My daughter is a developing photographer; we actually wanted to get the ruins at the fort on Memorial Day Weekend, but they close before the time the sun sets. 😒
The Church grounds do not, and we wound up getting some gorgeous shots of the buildings and the cemetery.
The inside is also stunning; we’ve worshipped there before.
Go. It’s really a beautiful, peaceful place

Lots of great history at this site tour was excellent . Would recommend all to visit this piece of American history.

Wonderful old church with beautiful grounds. Unfortunately it appears to be slated for development with the addition of a new church right by the the old church. Don’t wait too long to visit because over development is on the way. Very sad to see it will be spoiled.

Happen to be visiting Island on We3dnesday. Church holds a noontime service on Wednesdays. Participated in the service. Pastor spent time with us after the service.

Interior Church was closed but the yard and cemetery was lovely. The camellias were in full bloom under huge live oaks covered in Spanish moss. Spotted 2 Pileated woodpeckers. Walked thru John Wesley memorial garden - beautiful garden with both natural and planned gardens.

I wish the church would have been open during our visit. We only got to walk the grounds, which were beautiful and full of history. The tombstone inscriptions left your mind to wonder to the history of those laid to rest. Sadly alot of children. Serene little spot with lovely gardens across the way.

A tour guide recommended a tour of Christ Church and the surrounding cemetery because of their history.
Many island founders and historic figures are buried here, so the history lesson was fascinating.
The church had a guide there to explain the history and share her insights, she was very informative and insightful.

The 66th Annual Tour of Homes on St. Simons was fantastic, very organized, buses on time, homes beautiful, docents very informative and made us want to go shopping ! Can’t wait until next year!

This is probably one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. It’s just so peaceful and relaxing! The tombstones are worth reading and admiring!! Took tons of pictures of the church and the grounds!

A must see on the island. Beautiful grounds. Docent very friendly and formative. Parking was good for my husband who has a disability.

The cemetery is worth walking through as there are revolution and civil war soldiers buried there along with Rev Dodge's family. The church is small and simple, but has beautiful stained glass windows with various Bible stories. There was a docent present explaining the facts about the history of the church and it's structure. This is well worth the visit.

we always stop by Christ Church in the evening and meander around the grounds. Such a serene and beautiful spot, we initially stopped to look for E.Price's grave marker and have been coming back every year to just enjoy the peaceful beauty of the grounds.

We were there on a day/time they were supposedly open, but could not get inside. However we still got lovely photos of the outside and enjoyed walking around the cemetery trying to find the oldest gravestone.

The church is beautiful, and the grounds are gorgeous. Beautiful trees, and very old graves.
You can feel it’s special.

Beautiful old church nestled in the live oaks. All wood inside. Not sure if it is open every day, We were there for a service. It is very close to Fort Frederica, so a bit of a ride from the central area of St Simons.

We visit Christ Church everytime we visit St Simons and love the beautiful setting and trees. Such a peaceful spot!

Nice afternoon spent walking the grounds of this historic church. I was hoping to see inside, and those gorgeous stained glass windows, but it wasn't open. Still, lovely setting with the cemetery and Wesley Garden across the street.

Wonderful experience. Full of history. Take your time and enjoy it. I recommend reading about it before you go or go during tour hours. Very picturesque. Appropriate for all ages

Very nice way to spend an hour, lot's of history here that is not obvious. Do some research online or go with someone who knows the story to fully appreciate.

Church is not open in the mornings so if you’d like to enter check before you go if it’s open. Simply beautiful.

... only long enough to read the plaques and snap a couple of photos. It is very picturesque and the setting is quite lovely.

I had the pleasure of visiting one of the oldest churches in North America and it is must if you are in the area. Within walking distance to the Fort and across the road from a lovely garden. Absolutely a wonderful must see

This is a beautiful church surrounded by old live oaks and graveyard as well as a rich history. Take the time to stop in and enjoy the many stained glass windows and the stories told by to docents at the church. Also, walking around the graveyard is very interesting many old grave stones and prominent St. Simons residents/families found here. I first learned of this church and its history on the Colonial Trolley tours and it was a must to make it back and tour.

Great History at Christ Church and it's Haunted y'all .... All kinds of story's but if you go at night on a full moon to the large Round Marble marker ........

We didn't get here when the church was open but the grounds are beautiful. A cemetery surrounds most of the church - and across the street is a very nice garden that is worthwhile to walk around.

This is a must see on SSI. It drips with history and tradition to match the Spanish moss dripping from the giant oaks. The
graveyard alone is a tour through the island past. Match your trip with reading about the families who grew Cotten, rice and indigo on the golden isles.

Ginny went with the other girls for a Saturday docent-led tour of the church and grounds; very interesting and beautiful. Then we attended Sunday worship (2nd Sunday in Easter). Very friendly to non-locals.

Had the opportunity to visit Christ Church and enjoyed every minute. Very informative guide as we entered the church that explained the history of the church as well as some of the area. Beautiful architecture and stained glass windows. A MUST see.

We stopped by the church while in the area recently. It was well worth stopping in. The stain glass windows were fantastic.

We were visiting the church from Fort Fredrica so came to the Christ Church Parish and Office first. We were rudely asked by the woman working in the office to the left, "Does this look like a church?" Lady, you work in a church office, for goodness sake. (1 out of 5 stars)
We went next door and Frankie warmly greeted us. We learned that the church is thriving and has a Saturday service, a traditional 1920s Sunday service, and two additional services for its 800 members. So yes, the other building we originally went to is used as a church!
The church has been preserved well.
Check out the burial grounds to the right behind the church to find the Dodge family. A former paster, his first wife, his young son, his second wife and mother are buried behind an iron fence.

Couldn’t go in because we went on a Monday but the cemetery and seeing the outside of the church was moving. Since we are Methodist it was even more meaningful.

We visited as part of our trolly tour and it was one of the many hi lights of our tour. We were able to walk around the grounds and visit some of the graves that belonged to some prominent folks in the St. Simeon’s area. History buffs could literally get lost delving into the family history here.

This was a nice stop on our tour of the island. We grouped this visit with Westley Memorial Garden and the Frederica Fort Monument.
First thing to note: The church is not open to the public, as far was we could tell, and there are no public restrooms.
This is a surprisingly large site. We enjoyed the serenity of the spot, even on a chilly and rainy morning, and we wandered the beautiful burial place from new to quite old. We could not find Eugenia Price, who I believe is buried here but we did see many f the names that pop up across the island.
I you enjoy the history and peacefulness of cemeteries, then I think this one is worth a visit.

I just love the architecture of churches, and this church is just gorgeous. The inside is amazing! We saw the church while on the trolley tour so decided to go back to visit. Definitely worth a visit!

Christ Church and the surrounding cemetery are a must see on St Simons. Additionally just across the street is a trail that is lovely for a quick stroll into the forest - (bring bug spray)
The church reflects the history of the island dating back to 1823 when the first church was built on this site. The cemetery surrounding the building is a walk through history under towering oak trees. The oldest marked grave dates to 1803
If you are lucky enough to attend a church service here you will be uplifted by the Episcopal service.Of special interest are the stained glass windows given in the name of loved ones by St Simons parishioners throughout the building's history

We stopped here on our way to Fort Frederica. The church was closed, but that was okay as the grounds are immaculate. The grass was well kept and plush. Walking around and viewing the old grave stones was very interesting and reflective. The old brick wall with the crosses designed into the structure was very cool to see.

Beautiful live oaks and Spanish miss! Cemetery great lesson in Georgia history. Spend the 30-60 minutes in the heat. It’s worth it.

Great place to go and just enjoy nature. They have beautiful grounds. If you are a history buff they have a lot of confederate graves and a lot of neat information on the area. Really pretty place to take pictures as well.

We biked here from our hotel, a 14 mile round trip. Beautiful warm day in February. The actual church did not open until 2pm so we did not go in. We strolled the grounds of the cemetery. The trees there were extraordinary! They appeared to be blooming roses and the moss hanging from them added a picturesque view unlike any I have ever seen. I still don't know what they were. My guess is some type of Crepe Myrtle. There were ancient live oak trees and the Spanish moss was very dramatic. The graves dated back into the 1700's. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

I read the Eugenia Price trilogy so wanted to be sure to see this church. It is very beautiful. But I don't know what people are talking about when they say "tour" the church. We went in and a woman was there at a table but there was no mention of a tour at all. We asked her about the grave sites from the trilogy and she pointed us in the right direction. The church's website seemed very welcoming to visitors so we attended church there during the early service and we enjoyed a nice Episcopal service and the people were very welcoming.

This is just the perfect little church in a very peaceful island setting! The stained glass windows are just beautiful. The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the area and the surrounding little cemetery. Just to see the setting without the tour is peaceful with all the large old oak trees and flowers.

There is just so much here. The church itself is beautiful with the stained glass windows. They still hold services, and presidents have attended. The cemetery holds so many stories and be sure to notice the Wesley Brothers tree as you leave. Just stop here and think about all the history this place represents.

The setting for Christ Church and cemetery, situated under a canopy of gigantic, ancient Live Oaks, might be the most gorgeous site on Saint Simons Island. You'd think you were entering a postcard scene.
We arrived late afternoon, and the church was no longer open for touring. So I spent an hour meandering through the very large, very old cemetery while a photographer snapped photos of a newly engaged couple posing on the grounds. Visitors are welcome to explore the cemetery Tuesday through Sunday, from dawn to dusk. It's closed on Mondays for maintenance.
Christ Church was established here almost 300 years ago, in 1736, and some of the graves belong to members who lived that long ago. Some names are still legible on the oldest graves.
I found it fascinating that several Confederate Army soldiers are buried here and that their graves are still honored with Rebel flags. Gorgeous flowers were in bloom on the property, and Camelia trees dropped petals over ancient graves as if presenting gifts of flowers to the deceased.
The entire central area of the island is steeped in American history, from the British-Spanish turf wars, to the American Revolutionary War, to the Civil War, to the establishment of both the first Episcopalian and the first Methodist churches in the colony of Georgia.
Allow yourself plenty of time. We spent half a day exploring history in just one linear half mile of the island here.

Tucked back behind the sweeping Spanish Moss lies a gorgeous old church full of history & beauty. Easy parking available out on the road to explore the gardens & church when open.
Beautiful inside, beautiful grounds
If you like history, this is well worth a visit. Not only can you see the inside with untreated GA pine and a Tiffany stained glass window, but you can also see a historic cemetary and a garden with a path. Wesley was said to have given sermons under a tree on the grounds, and there was a lovely lady there telling us the history of the building
