It seems unfair to review Church St. during COVID. We were able to enjoy a great meal at the dog friendly Sweetwaters and we walked up and down the lovely area. Unfortunately there isn't much going on there right now other than outdoor dining.

Very pleasant place. Shops lining the street were very nice, especially the olive oil shop. Great place to spend an afternoon.

A nice pedestrian friendly place to take a nice walk and shop in pleasant local stores. Located downtown and easy to get to. In season street entertainment. Buy some maple syrup, coffee and chocolate.

This is not a safe place to visit. Panhandlers on every corner and in the parking garages. Open drug use.

We spent the morning and afternoon just strolling the whole marketplace, window-shopping and and actually making some purchases. All kinds of shops-men’s store, women’s shops and boutiques, souvenirs and plenty more. The market place was a safe stroll with no actual traffic to worry about. Plenty of places to stop in and get a bite to eat or have a drink. It was nicely decorated for the holidays although while we were there it was to early to see the full affect of the lights. If you are in the area it is definitely a cool thing to do even if you don’t shop and just people watch.

Fun Christmas shopping along the Church Street Marketplace. You can find interesting locally made gifts. Also lots of places to stop for refreshments, lunch and dinner.

Our family with teenagers loved The Church Street Marketplace. It reminded us very much of downtown Portsmouth, NH. Very quaint with lighted trees once it gets dark. Plenty of places to sit and relax while waiting for the teens to browse the shops.

We ate at an Italian Restaurant which was very good. It was nice to stroll on Church St, which is closed off to traffic. Lots of shops and restaurants. Can walk to the lake if you are so inclined.

Aside from a few homeless peddling (which, of course, I felt bad for), Church St has a lot of energy and good shopping. Nice energy. Lots of restaurant options too.

We went to Marketplace during the Jazz festival. It was a great 4 days. There are a large selection of shops and restaurants. The music was very good. I will definitely come back next year.

This pedestrian street is great in the late afternoon and evening. Some very good stores featuring local products and crafts. Lots of outdoor dining and drinking establishments. Also street entertainment.

Very active bar, shopping and restaurant scene in Burlington, Vermont. Lots of variety and several venues have live music. You can find virtually anything you want in a vacation town on Church Street. No trip to Burlington will be complete without a stroll down this very nice pedestrian walkway.

With several blocks dedicated to pedestrians it is a great place to shop, stroll? And just hang out. There are benches to rest and people watch. Local vendors and chains offer lots to browse about, very enjoyable!

Lots of great shops with unique New England items that appeal to all visitors. Nice way to spend a few hours then have dinner in one of the many nearby excellent restaurants.

The church street marketplace has a nice vibe to it. There are many artisan stores and eateries. Many of the restaurants have outside seating, So you can also people watch. It’s Nice for a stroll and then grab some gelato.

This was not what I expected. It just may not be my cup of tea. It was nice to be able to walk without any cars and you can find parking. There was an unstable man chanting with blood and cuts on his arms- another young lady with her bags begging for money. I realize it is a city but I guess when on vacation I would rather not be in an area like this. I can shop somewhere else. Plenty of places to eat inside or out. Plenty of shops.

They have done a wonderful job by closing Church Street for blocks, making this a great walking spot. Terrific restaurants/cafes to choose from, and nice shopping opportunities.

The car parking was great being Sunday with free meters plus we noticed the parking garage is first 2 hours free then cheap after that. Looked very safe with no signs of losers hanging about.

I visited Church St twice. Once was in the evening on self-designed food tour. The again the next day just to visit the shops. Both times were 5 star excellent.
On the food tour I started at the bottom of the hill at Honey Road restaurant and enjoyed a side order of brussels sprouts and a dirty martini. Then small orders at Gaku Ramen, Leunigs, Pascolo, and Cappadocia. All were delicious, but Honey Road stood out as the best of the best.
The next day it was specialty shops. There were no touristy gift shops, yet I seemed to find something interesting in every shop and came home with many items. Church St was the highlight of my visit to Burlington.

This is the place to be in Burlington. There are several shops and restaurants. We visited when it was still fairly warm outside and the restaurant outdoor dining was filled up and down the street.

Ditto to the other couple. I can’t believe the difference between what you hear and see in the media and what it’s actually like down on these streets. And the prices of apparel is ridiculous

Church Street Market Place was quaint, cobblestone street, full of vibrant people, enjoyed people watching and shopping, outdoor eating so cool, a must visit while in Burlington, Vt.

Run down and dirty. If you want to see homeless people this is the place. All the stores were nasty dirty and run down selling nothing worth wild. Lots of graffiti on the buildings.

A good place to do some relaxing shopping. A wide variety of shops, boutiques and restaurants situated on a pedestrian mall.

Cute area with shops and restaurants. A nice place to kill some time. I think the negative reviews mostly come from folks who expected too much. This is, after all, a small town.

Church street is a nice walk around for food, drinks, or shopping, and is close walking to the waterfront.

We arrived early on a Sunday morning so mostly all the store/restaurants weren’t open. That was ok because we wandered around and stopped to listen to music in the park area. Places started to open up so we walked the streets and started to shop. Love the closed off streets. Reminds us of a larger version of Ithaca Commons in NY.

In the heart of downtown Burlington, Church Street is a pleasant pedestrian street with shops and some restaurants (and a few nut jobs). It was nice to stroll. If you’re visiting the city, this is worth a walk.

Church Street was amazing! So many shops and great restaurants! We had a great anniversary weekend! Leunig’s and E B’s steakhouse! Yum! We had drinks at Daily Planet and Ken’s..so delicious 😋

This is a very well kept and charming area to visit. The street is closed to traffic. There are some unique stores and some chains. There are a few restaurants and a couple of post dinner places. Great place to go during the day.

Last evening five of us strolled a vibrant Church Street and dined at an incredible restaurant called Revolution Kitchen. Thanks Burlington.

I did not expect to see so many homeless people all over the place; laying down on the Church Street walkway, on public benches, blaring radios. And the graffiti all over town. What has happened? I was glad I was there during daytime hours. I will never go back after dark!

This lovely outdoor marketplace is right near Lake Champlain and has a lot of restaurants and shopping options, as well as street artists and a giant Christmas tree during the holidays. Everything is lit up, making the place look almost magical. There weren't a lot of people strolling around outside, mainly because it was pretty chilly, although restaurants were doing a brisk trade.

Well maintained, family friendly place with good food and shopping places. View of the lake from street in the evening was beautiful.

We LOVED Church Street Marketplace! Beautiful buildings with wonderful small business’s, tons of places to eat & enjoyed the Christmas decor. They have a large parking garage located right amongst the marketplace with super cheap parking! We spent an entire day here and really enjoyed it! Lots of great shopping to be done here. Everything is easily walkable and all within a couple blocks. A fun spot to spend the day checking out some great shopping (more small business type shops VS chain/corporate types), tons of coffee shops (recommend Cosmic Grind!), Ben & Jerry’s, places to eat & see Burlington!

I attended the University of Vermont, and Church Street was a must-see back in the day. Today, I would just skip it. The street was open to vehicle traffic (delivery vehicles), which made taking a leisurely stroll up the street more difficult. Many of the storefronts are empty. The store owners were working hard to make their stores attractive, but the surrounding graffiti and panhandlers setting up for the day detracted too much. This centerpiece of the city is deteriorating.

Burlington is a great place to visit - the lake is beautiful - Church St. has many interesting restaurants - try the Gryphon for a great burger in a refined setting (quiet!).

The street is filled with shops and restaurants for a pleasant stroll. Both shops and restaurants are dog friendly with an abundance of outdoor seating options.

This is a nice place with stores and restaurants. The stores are somewhat pricey, so we did not buy anything. We did eat at one of the restaurants, which was not too expensive. There is a parking garage on Bank Street. Parking is free for 2 hours or less. We enjoyed walking the marketplace and visiting some of the shops.

Left Uvm in 1980 when the street still ran though. What a great spot for downtown. Parking a little difficult at times.

A lot of small older cities in the U.S. seem to have pedestrian market places. Burlington is no exception. Their marketplace is just as nice as any other I've seen. The usual collection of local and national shops along a pedestrian walkway four blocks long. At the end by Main Street is a park.

Want some fun? Take a walk on Church Street! Something for everyone. Great great food, interesting people from all walks of life and ages and more dogs than anywhere else! Nice shops too. Still not tired? Visit Pine Street - another favorite. Farmers Market has settled there now and shopping for fresh produce, beer and spirits too. Farm to you. Really great!

I love the historic aspect of the marketplace and variety of stores. However, the prices were high and while parking at the parking garage beside the marketplace I saw several people doing drugs on the street, a man going through a woman's purse at a store and taking money out of it as well as going through the cards, and several homeless people lying on the ground beside buildings. The police did nothing about the drug users, instead, continued to drive by as if it did not exist. This was a frightening situation and not worth going to the marketplace for. I would not return there or feel safe walking around with kids outside of the marketplace.

Walked around, found great place for dinner, did some shopping, had Ben Jerry ice cream. Recommend it.

The market was neat & beautiful scenery but the shops were high dollar. If you’re an average joe visiting the area, you will not have a good time at these shops.

I have visited many many times over the last 20 years and found on this visit that it was too crowded for my liking. Mall is almost empty of businesses. Restrooms are hard to come by.

Have been here many times when the kids were young playing tournaments in basketball. Great college town feel. Lake is beautiful

There are a lot of shops and eateries in this area. And even better, there is a lot of seating where you can just sit and watch the people. Loved the vibes and the happenings in the Marketplace.

Went to church street after dinner, has a very nice vibe to it. However, it was smaller than expected (only 3 or so blocks).

We were visiting Burlington on a BEAUTIFUL sunny winter afternoon. The paved brick / cobblestone pedestrian mall is fantastic.
Lined with retail stores of all kinds (many unique to Vermont) as well as bistros, restaurants and taverns, if you are in Burlington area, this is a "Do Not Miss" destination.
The full length of the marketplace is decorated and resplendent with lights and ornaments. The 50 foot tall (I think) Xmas tree at the top of Church Street at Pearl Street captures the essence and spirit of this wonderful downtown experience.
Take your time, go window shopping, enjoy the people watching.
Church Street is worth every moment.

Church Street Marketplace is a nice 5 or 6 block pedestrian friendly shopping area lined with national chains and local shops and restaurants. Kiss the Cook is a kitchen and decor shop that is fun to browse through and it is hard to leave without finding something you absolutely can not live without. There are several coffee shops and full service restaurants. Most stores open at 10 but if you are there for the coffee shops before then be careful because vehicles are allowed on Church Street to make deliveries. Church street is normally closed to vehicles which makes it a nice promenade along the brick street.

Love to see historic districts preserved & modernized for good use. Great restaurants & shopping. Very convenient to Lake Champlain.

If you’re visiting Burlington and wanna go where the action is, this is the spot. Tons of shops, restaurants. Pubs, etc. this is basically the “downtown” or Burlington. Waterfront park is a few blocks away, right on the lake. I recommend this eating at the turkish restaurant toward the end of the strip. Kens is a good pub for a beer and to watch the game. Must stop if you’re hanging out in Burlington.

My husband and I enjoyed stopping by here. There are many places to shop and eat. Most places seem to be open but few are still closed from COVID. I suggest stopping by here if you’re in the area.

A lovely area where you can walk, shop and dine. Our tour group stopped here for a few hours and it was really enjoyable, attractive. It's a historic area that you can just enjoy being in.

Variety of restaurants and shopping, very walkable if you’re staying in the area. Lots of outdoor dining options, which is perfect when the weather is nice. I was disappointed that the shops closed so early given the foot traffic for food and entertainment. I wouldn’t necessarily go out of my way to visit but it was a nice option considering we were staying close by.

Church street offers everything you need shopping, restaurants and dessert option. There was also a few buskers and live music during our visit.

Very nice place for a walk. Plenty of nice and unique shops and places to get a drink or some food. Have been to a few of these in different towns and many are just crowded outdoor malls with lots of chain stores. But most of the stores on Church street are local small shops which make it much nicer. There are some chain stores like GAP and Starbucks but overall still very nice. There were some homeless people which others have commented on but they were not aggressively panhandling.

We made a reservation at one of the restaurants here and walked up and down before and after we ate Fun vibe, everyone out, eating and socializing. Some stores closed for the day by dinnertime.

This was fine. It's essentially an open air mall. It's got a variety of small stores and restaurants and a couple of chain stores mixed in. It is what it is, it's fine if you're looking to poke around.

The Church Street Marketplace was both smaller - at only about four blocks - and less crowded than I expected it would be. There’s a pretty good mix of retail and restaurants, including some of the kinds of stores you’d expect in Burlington like outdoor recreation outfitters. Despite a fair number of vagrants, it’s a generally pleasant area, but it’s not going to keep you busy for very long as there’s just not that much here.

My trip to Burlington icluded Church Street market. It wasn't overtly crowded because it was extremely hot, this particular weekend. But it's worse going to.

I thought Church Street was a lovely little street to walk down! It is nothing super special (if you have walked down quaint and slightly touristy streets) but I still suggest going. There are some really nice local shops along with typical shops that can be found around the US. At night it is lit up and very cute!

It is so fun to stroll along the Church Street Marketplace in any season! The collection of stores is amazing from lululemon to Free People to Ben & Jerry's and everything in between... There are also many wonderful eating establishments. I always enjoy my time here.

We went there on a day where it was raining a bit, but the overall vibe of the place was cool. Many local shops, but also some midsize chains that maybe not a lot of people have heard of. Prices were a bit high throughout, but I haven't done this type of shopping since before inflation, so maybe that's the norm. I map of the stores and locations would be helpful, as we missed some on the side streets that I would have liked to go into. Maybe it was the timing, but we didn't experience the "dangerous" conditions others reported.

This pedestrian promenade offers a great sampling of locally owned stores and restaurants as well as street music and great people watching. We lunched at Leunig's, and dined at Farmhouse, with a stop at Ben&Jerry's. (Not all on the same day.)
Loved Vermont Flannel and the Exchange.

We were only here for half a day. We really liked this lakeside town.
We walked from the downtown parking garage to the Marketplace and
gang through the city center. There are many shops and a car-free zone.
We had lunch at the Co-op City Market Onion River. This place has
many local products and is highly recommended. Later we went to the lake promenade
You've gone. This was also very nicely done.
Bürlington is a welcoming small town where you can spend a few days
can.

My wife and I love these little market areas where you can walk cobblestone streets and brick laid streets and check out different locally-made items. This one was especially nice because of how old the area is and how beautiful the area is in late Spring. Overlooking the lake just kind of strolling the streets with your significant other it's very peaceful.

This is a nice spot to just walk around, munch on something, grab some lunch, coffee, etc… Also a few places that sell clothing, home goods, etc…

Church Street Marketplace is a five block area where the street is permanently closed to cars and is lined with shops and restaurants. Street musicians provide a nice atmosphere. Very pleasant way to spend time and patronize local merchants.

This is the centre street of Burlington, packed with local shops, art galleries & restaurants. Good for a stroll & some lunch. Note some shops don’t open until 11.00.

We have a recreational vehicle so I researched the parking ahead of time and there are about 3 lots that are not parking garages. There was a lot on Main Street that had several spaces open, although they are a little short for 24 foot vehicle. It was a short walk to Church Street. I think we spent about 2 hours here browsing and enjoyed the different stores, that are not chain stores. There were quite a few homeless people around, but we felt safe with a good police presence.

I really like the concept of having the street closed off to cars. There are plenty of places to park on adjoining streets. There are quite a few restaraunts to choose from and plenty of high quality and fun shopping experiences.

The Church Street Marketplace is filled with different stores and restaurants. The stores range from name brand (Banana Republic) to used book stores.
They probably have whatever item you may have forgotten at home, or whatever souvenir you're looking to pick up.

This street years ago was really happening. 2022, post covid, a little less so. The mall is gone as is Five Guys (no loss there as majority is local businesses) and we can see a decline in its popularity the last few times we have come by. Is nice but unfortunately losing its luster.

Nice to stroll around. Very responsible with covid. Take a rest on a shady bench and see people pass.

Lots of shops, restaurants and outdoor dining in a broad pedestrian street. A great location to have some chocolate or ice cream

A great place to shop local and find a place to eat. Lovely, lots of ambiance. Pedestrian all the was so very safe.

Wonderful spot of old New England. Lots of shops, restaurants , street artists, and the original Ben & Jerry’s

Taking back historic buildings and facades from cars feels right. A global trend, Burlington's pedestrian mall provides and excellent example of what cities can do. Find a historic part of town with interesting buildings and facades, ban cars from the street, add some nice pavers, and the people will come to shop, eat, and party in a mellow, urban space. We looped by on our walking tour of Burlington early afternoon, and looped back for cocktails at 5. Architecturally interesting, relaxing, and fun, Church Street Marketplace is an urban planning home run.

Horrible. Tons of homeless people (some doing drugs). Not enjoyable at all. The waterfront is better.

This is a pedestrian shopping mall. If you like browsing in stores, you'll have fun here. There are also some restaurants, including some with outdoor seating.

We made it to the Marketplace after 7pm - the early evening is a nice time to walk along the street. Lot's of people milling around / visiting the shops. We ate and had some ice cream to top off a pleasant evening.

I went to eat at a restaurant that was fabulous. There's a bunch of shops, but the parking was a pain. There were fun things to see in the area. Just busy.

Didn't have a lot of time to investigate many shops here, but I will say I found what I needed almost immediately and our tour group was off to a lunch/brunch cruise. This is a lively, active part of downtown Burlington, and what a nice place to relax and take in music and college students' antics! Dog friendly, too!

My adult daughter and I visited Church Street Marketplace while on a vacation trip including Burlington. We found lots of shops and small restaurants. The weather was beautiful so many diners were sitting at outside tables under umbrellas. There was lots to explore, including interesting historical facts scattered around the area. Everyone should visit here!

Church Street Marketplace is a nice 4-5 block feature located in the heart of Burlington's city center. This popular pedestrian only walkway was built in 1980 and is loaded with shops and restaurants along with vendors. Many of the restaurants have outdoor seating located in the Church Street walkway giving you a cosmopolitan feel, as we had, eating outside at the Irish bar RiRa. It's a great place for nice city views and people watching. Most the side streets also had shopping and restaurants. The only negative was restrooms, with the only one located in the basement of city hall. Reasonably priced parking garages close by.

Well designed shopping mall with interesting shop, restaurants and the occasional merchandise cart. Most of the shops are small boutique type stores. Very walkable.

Dog friendly walking with a good mix of stores and food places. Kiosks with gelato and other food items present during our Sunday visit. Ken’s Pizza provides good food and a vantage spot for people watching. Don’t mind panhandlers but there were some a bit pushy.

Church Street Marketplace is one of those revamped downtown establishments that gives you a warm and fuzzie feeling. Busy and vibrant over weekends, laid-back and pleasant on weekdays. Irrespective your time of visit, it offers great shopping and eating experiences with a nice four block walk down to Lake Champlain. Make sure to check out the stores on the side streets. We discovered a great bookstore that was not on the main drag. Plenty of public seating are along the way, which is a nice touch.

Church St marketplace could be nice. Maybe it was at one time. There are some good restaurants still hanging on. Unfortunately, the homeless situation is out of control. Add to that that a high percentage of these homeless people appear to have mental problems (where they are ranting at the top of their lungs about random topics) or they’re openly engaging in non-weed drug deals. I was here for a week. Not once did I ever see a police officer walking around this area. The whole area made me feel unsafe and icky.

I expected more street vendors. It was an easy walk, but compared to someplace like New Orleans or other street markets, it was anemic. Mostly high-end ladies clothing or very new-age artsy places. So if that's what you like - this might be your place.

Our bus trip of Vermont sopped here around the noon hour. I think the heyday of this pedestrian mall is passed. Yes, the buildings are historic, but they retail offerings were slim and except for Saratoga Oil and Danforth Pewter none of the well-known Vermont brand stores. Even the restaurant offerings were paltry. Maybe summertime it would have been more lively. I won't return. A directory of the stores at the start of the pedestrian mall would have been helpful. On a plus note, lights were being hung for the holidays.

Very cute Market right along Market street in Burlington. Lots to see, do, places to eat and drink. Very clean and very nice area. Highly recommended!

We spent a couple of hours over the 4th of July at the Church Street Marketplace and enjoyed ourselves. Lots of people but not too crowded that you couldn't get a table for a meal or a drink. Live music was nice. Unfortunately, we got two parking tickets because we thought parking was free on the Saturdays.

No,music, no street performers, and the mall was not a bustling place. To be fair we arrived late in the day. The pedestrian mall looked a tired to us, A few upgrades and attention to contemporary decor would help

There was a wide variety of stores and restaurants available. It was a nice area to walk around and browse. You can easily spend several hours here.

Great cluster of shopping/eateries in a small area. Street is closed to vehicle traffic. Enjoyed walking the street looking through 5he shops. Burlington’s core shopping area is a nice touch which helps sell the “small town but great shopping” feel.

We decided to take a walk, and strolled through the marketplace. There are plenty of shops and restaurants. The people were very friendly and most were safe (wearing masks)

There were lots of people there, so it was good for people-watching. However, the shopping was not unusual. No cool shops, and the parking is difficult.

The Church Street Marketplace is cute and quirky with brand name chain stores and small mom ‘n pop places. The shopping experience felt a little bit on the moderately pricey side so not great for many people. I think I enjoyed people and doggy watching the most. It’s not a terrible way to spent and hour or two. It also helps that the covered parking garage gives you the first couple of hours free.

Average rating because everything was closed at 6pm. We had dinner reservations at a near by restaurant at 8:30. Luckily they were able to accommodate us early. The selection of stores was good, not outstanding.

It's fun to see. Have lunch, coffee, ice cream and chocolates. It's an outdoor mall with some shops which are not national chains. If you've been to Boulder,CO it reminds one of the Pearl Street Mall.

You are likely to see some street performers and lots of people walking. The atmosphere is fun! There are shops and many great places to eat on either side of the street which is reserved to pedestrians only.

This is a group of local stores. They have a little of everything. They also have some Street Performers. We stopped at a game store. Ben and Jerry's has a store here too.

A fun area with lots to do and see. Everything from Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Shop to a Comic Book Store to The Vermont Flannel Store to gift shops and a Game (Board Games) Shop. Spend a few minutes to a few hours you will not be bored!

Got here close to closing time (around 7 pm) so didn't walk much. It is a nice area with shops and restaurants. Good place to eat.

Not sure if it was the time of day we visited, 4 pm ish, but the street people would out in force. Was asked for cash at least 5 times in an hour. The day we visited it was cold and overcast and it was just about to rain. Would have loved it in the sunshine.

Very walkable area, also easily accesable by those with physical handicaps. Clean, nice selection of shops in the area, our wives were able to find some treasures they couldn't live without. We also found the LL Bean store and while not on Church Street, was not too far off the path.
Helped make our stop in Burlington a memorable one.

Was amazed at the beautiful architecture along Church Str. Many of the buildings date late 1890's-1900's and now house restaurants and shops. Great place to eat and stroll.

Fun for all ages...a happening and schools are not in session...many boutique sops and restaurants...a must take

Church Street is very walkable and has many restaurants and shops. Lots of open air seating at restaurants give you a chance to dine alfresco. The trees are decorated with white lights and colored ball lights making it a cozy romantic place to stroll. This was a great idea and brings the community together. Since Burlington is a college town there’s something for everyone.

It’s truly a beautiful place to stroll, shop, and admire the beauty of the place. Can also be a nice activity on a rainy day, but not too much.

This is a very nice array of shops and restaurants along one long street. Street musicians play while the shoppers stroll the street searching for the best bargain in their favorite boutique. It is very inviting to the college crowd especially.

The marketplace is a must visit if you are in town, it has everything! Clothing stores, cafes, restaurants, souvenir and specialty shops, and of course Ben & Jerry's, which one should not miss if they have not been to the factory.

My kids loved the pedestrian only shopping street. We went into so many stores. And the street performers really add to the scene.

I was told to visit here when in town. I strolled along the outdoor mall which was bustling with lots of tourists and locals. There are lots of shops, food establishments and stores if you choose to visit. I was just enjoying being outdoors and seeing people for this visit since I was on a business trip and worked all day. I stopped by a small group of local law enforcement officers to inquire about restaurant suggestions and they steered me to a great place on the mall. A definite stop if in town and not too far from Battery Park, Waterfront Park and the Lake Front.

If you're planning to visit Burlington, the Church Street Marketplace is not to be missed! So many fun shops and restaurants line the street, you can easily spend the better part of a day there. There is a good variety of shops: clothing, food, candy, coffee, chocolate, outdoor activity gear, etc. The shops are a good mix of name brand and local, so you can experience that Vermont charm alongside some of the most popular brands.
The street itself is blocked to traffic, so you are free to meander through the sidewalks, shops, and street with ease. Sidewalks are lined with benches and beautiful trees, most of them lit or decorated, giving the place a magical feel in the evening hours. This was a fun, unique experience, and definitely worth visiting.

Not a lot of vendors, mostly small shops, restaurants, and bars. the area is very nice and clean and there are no vehicles allowed on the street so it’s wide open for walking

Burlington has a central dining area and it is fun to walk around. You will find many restaurants and bars which can become crowded in the evening.

This place is hopping, day and night. Great local shops and restaurants. Beautiful street scene that is family friendly.

Church Street Marketplace is truly a fun place in Burlington VT, especially on a weekend. Stroll among the shops and restaurants on this uncovered pedestrian ‘mall’. You will find musicians, dancers, buskers- all having fun. Visit Lake Champlain chocolates, a great place for local chocolate products - truly yummy. We visited Leunig’s Bistro for dinner, enjoyed it.
If you are in Burlington, where else will you go - unless you want to go out on Lake Champlain or on a hot air balloon ride!

We walked several blocks of the area checking out a few shops and enjoyed some good food from the pizza shops, candy, bagel, and cookie stores. I didn’t see it overrun with homeless folks that others mentioned. There was road construction that was a bit messy by the courthouse.

Loads of shops and restaurants to pick from.
Great area with local artisans, musicians, and outside dining.
Perfect on a sunny day.

Excellent place to visit in downtown Burlington which will put you close to many shops and restaurants in the area. The area is clean and safe for families with kids of all ages. Great stop!

Make sure you take a stroll down to the marketplace! There are a lot of cute stores and dinning areas.

Church st have lot of restaurants , and you can pick what you like , but seems little expensive for the Burlington VT.

Full of historic buildings, unique shops and restaurants in a wonderful setting. Love the brick paved walk with no traffic. Plenty of inexpensive parking nearby. Plenty of options for everyone. Love the history and friendliness of everyone.

The bar and restaurant scene in this friendly college town is Church street with a great mix of shops, bars, restaurants, and music. The only thing “missing” is traffic. Church street is pedestrian only. Their is ample paid parking all around the area and you are a very short walk from the Lake Champlain lakefront. It is a must see area!

Very art oriented and beautiful throughway of Burlington, VT offering loads of privately-owned shops that cater to almost every interest ranging from clothes to ice cream to pubs and eateries. It seems like lice music plays here quite frequently and can be heard droning up and down the street on two nights we spent in Vermont. There are usually many people during the busy hours, but not enough to feel too crowded and uncomfortable. One end of the street holds the beautiful church hende “Church Street” while the other end holds the state government buildings since it is Capitol city of Vermont. There is a hilly part when you head toward the government side, but not terribly bad even for a big guy like myself with bad knees. While in Burlington, you'd be remiss if you didn't visit this amazing place! It was one of my favorite parts of our road-trip to Rhode Island.

So many outdoor eateries as well as shops and people watching. The area was extremely pet friendly. Will return.

We liked walking around and not having to watch out for cars. Shops and restaurants and a nice atmosphere. A few vendors and what seemed like community events happening as well. Pretty easy to find parking.

Went for a Sunday Stroll. Everyone was so friendly and many people were out with their dogs, kids, families, etc. We popped into a few shops and just enjoyed taking in the sights. Lots of food options, people watching, shopping, and beautiful scenery with the lake and church. Loved it!

I love how walkable and pet friendly this area is. There's a terrific variety of shops, cafes, and restaurants. In the summer many of them spill out onto the sidewalk for an outdoor experience. It's quite clean and beautiful at all times of the year.

Visiting our granddaughter at UVM, loved the marketplace for shopping and people watching. The area is worth a second visit. Variety of restaurants to select from

Check this place out last weekend! It sure is the hustle and bustle of locals! I loved the use of brick and old architecture! There’s plenty of restaurants and open spaces to grab a drink and people watch!
Parking is hard to get as it is quite busy on weekends, it definitely worth the effort to experience!

Beautifully maintained area, love that its closed to traffic. many cute stores. Overall a great place to spend an afternoon.

It's not a long walk, but it is full of things to see, do and eat. If the weather is nice, sit outside to eat. If it's cold, go inside and warm up! You may have to search for a place to park, and when you find one, it will be metered. The buildings have been there for awhile, and not everything is accessible to everyone. But it is a charming place to visit and linger. Don't rush it...savor it.

Very fun during the day with live performers and good food and drink all around! Also lots of upend shopping available.

Wonderful area to walk with shops and restaurants. Most of the shops are local as well as the restaurants. You must not miss this area when visiting Burlington.

May 7th trip to Burlington. We arrived from a Tour bus trip to spend the afternoon until 5pm. My wife and I visited the Church Street Marketplace enjoying a variety of pleasures throughout the afternoon. From a juggling comedian, to a visit to a very nice Jazz & Blues Bar named Red Square. The atmosphere along the street was happy and cheerful throughout also. Going in and out of a number of shops and outlets we enjoyed a great day visiting, and purchasing items. We definitely will return again as we have done in the past. A great way to spend some weekend time !

Church Street was converted into a pedestrian outdoor marketplace in the 80's. It's been a hot spot ever since. It has shops and restaurants but it also has lots of tourists. Please don't spend all of your time in Burlington here! Wander down to the lake. Go to other restaurants and business! Visit Shelburne Farms.

I really enjoyed the walk through town here with my dog. It's kept very well and I recommend the Marketplace Garage for parking as it's cheap and takes you right to the center area. Great vendors and food places, wide open so even when it's crowded you have space. Some vendors not dog friendly which was the only downside for me.

So nice to see such a great outdoor dining and shopping place--- lots of verity in food, drink and shopping in general. Live music etc... Def worth checking out

Not sure what marketplace people were expecting, but this is just a cordoned off block or so of overpriced stores with limited (to nonexistent) bathrooms, terrible parking and no smoking areas near all the shops. There aren't even any real 'local' stores either; it's mostly chains.
Unless you like waiting in line at a Starbucks to use the (seemingly only) bathroom, avoid and shop elsewhere.

Looking for a place to grab some food, shop and hang out.
Church Street is the place to go.
We found Ben & Jerrys on the corner, grabbed some delicious ice cream and went on a stroll and saw some interesting people and went in and out of shops.
If needing a place to go in Burlington, this is a fun place to go.

We absolutely love walking around Church Street. It's always lively no matter the season! Lots of cute shops, restaurants and bars! My 8 and 12 yr old daughters love it!!

Really cute little shops as well as larger retail chains. We very much enjoyed walking and window shopping So nice to still see a small town shopping district with local merchants thriving. Wish more college towns could make this happen. Did not disappoint. The only thing I will say is if you go on a busy weekend with parents visiting, be prepared for long waits at restaurants and bars. But that is to be expected

Particularly quaint and lovely, lots of cute restaurants and shops; town/area seems to have a hip college vibe while also being nicely chill

Came here with wife and daughter to tour UVM. Last time we visited in 2016 the place was fun, vibrant, liberal. This time it was dirty, dominated by drug users who seem emboldened to shout at passersby. We tried to sit outside at Kens but two different vagrants started yelling - one at children and the other just crying and saying the rich are A holes. The servers seemed apathetic and self absorbed. Maybe they are done too. It was terrible and sad. My daughter crossed UVM off her list because she didn’t feel safe.

My husband and I were visiting Burlington on our anniversary. We loved the local shops and the many restaurants that this area had to offer. I also love that the street is closed off and you can stroll right now the middle under the lights.

Church Street marketplace is a fun pedestrian mall with great shops and fabulous eateries! Whether you have a little or a lot of time to spend, you will enjoy your visit and look forward to returning.

Not my favorite place but they do have a lot of shopping including an awesome olive oil shop, clothing boutiques, and more and a ton of restaurants lining the street. You can find every cuisine, even little food trucks servicing sweets, coffee and other snacks. They even live music on some evenings which was our favorite. I wish they made it into a concert series as the space is perfect for it.

We drove to Burlington for the afternoon from Smugglers Notch. Church Street Marketplace was our first stop. a several block long outside shopping space, a former street turned into a delightful mall. A delightful place; many people; many, many good stores, many name-brand stores; lots of places to eat, both inside and outside; exciting place. We bought some socks at Sox Market, a neat little store just selling socks, loads of customers. We stopped at a crepe place, they didn't have gluten-free crepes, but their other place on the lake had them so we went there. A delightful place for fun and excitement but also a good place to shop.

The Flynn theater was great and fun we went to check out Church Street on a Tuesday early before the show. The adjacent park had at least two groups of homeless type people doing drugs in broad daylight. I’m not talking smoking marijuana. Something good like a meth or crack. Not to be let down Church Street came through. Several more homeless people some of which were holding their pants up with their hands others were sleeping on the sidewalk. My favorite of all was a large tall man standing in the middle of church street yelling at passerby‘s injecting himself aggressively into passerby‘s conversations. I thought the whole thing was a hilarious crap show. I’m glad I didn’t have any children with me it would be quite nerve-racking

Lot's of shops and space for walking around. An open air environment with sun raining down on the brick walk way. Shops adorn the plaza from name brands to mom and pop shops. There's food, clothing nicknacks to be had by all and it's only a short walk to the waterfront.

Church Street is quite nice with lots of stores and an interesting architecture. It also has an interesting marking on the ground showing the division of the hemispheres which can be fun to take pictures. There is also a local chocolate store with a delicious cocoa drink.

Still an authentic Vermont hangout. Lost none of its hipness. Unique shopping among those who want to be seen or see those who aren’t unseen.

Very nice pedestrian mall, lots of neat shops and restaurants. Nice public art too. Great people watching. My only two complaints - there were a fair number of homeless people, though none of them were causing any problems. The other is a lot of the shops close at 6 pm - I wish they stayed open later.

Haven't been to Burlington since 1999 it was good to start the re-exploration by the visit of Church Street Marketplace. We had only one day to do so but I can understand how tourists and locals alike may like coming here on regular bases.
We enjoyed many interesting stores and art galleries, restaurants and public spaces.
Many buildings seem to have distinctive styles and once in a while it is good to look up and admire entire facades.

There are some nice restaurants in the area and people watching proves a very interesting way to pass time.

Have been visiting the Marketplace for years and it seems to get better each time. A great place for all ages and types. Something for everyone when it comes to the shops, restaurants and more. Occasional street shows and some new pop up vendors since my last trip.

A beautiful day in scenic Burlington and wandering through fun and eclectic shops - paradise for everyone! Great options of national retailers, quirky and fun local shops and oodles of food options. Street entertainers galore keep the place hopping. No trip to Burlington is complete without a trip to the Marketplace.

We stopped at Church Street Marketplace for a little shopping. This marketplace was four or five blocks long. There were several stores and restaurants. The street was clean. There were lots of tourists just like us. It could use a few more places to sit down and people watch.

Traffic closed street with shops, bars and restaurants (Sweetwaters & Ri-Ra Iris Pub..etc.) all along it. Park in the parking garages, several close by. Figure a good 2 hours to properly check out the whole place? Good rainy day activity.

Dirty, filthy, and lots of empty shops. Homelessness, drugs, and lack of standards make this beautiful location lackluster. Raise your standards Burlington.

Fun shopping experience, outdoor music, lots of eateries, prices will fit anyone's budget. People were very friendly and hospitable. Lot of people walking dogs, just an overall enjoyable experience.

I loved the experience of the Church Street Marketplace, a pedestrian only thoroughfare lines with shops and restaurants. It reminded me of Grafton Street in Dublin and is just as fun. There are tons of places to eat with outdoor seating in the nice weather, as well as plenty of shops to browse through. All a short walk from the waterfront. A must see in Burlington!

We had an amazing time walking during the day and also at night, the lights in the trees amazing! So much to see and do and the bands amazing! people were dancing in the streets!

Church street is a quaint little shopping area, about 4-5 blocks long, but don't miss out shopping the cross streets!.
You can find a few chains (Eddie Bauer, LuluLemon, Athleta, Starbucks, etc) but the real charm is in the local shops! My favorites: Common Deer, Home & Garden Vermont, Homeport, Kiss the Cook and Sox Market. If you are looking for out door gear, be sure to hit the local Outdoor Gear exchange or Burton, but there is also a Patagonia store.
There are a lot of great places to get food and drink along the way. My favorites: El Cortijo (Drinks!), Penny Cluse (breakfast!) and Kens Pizza (not just pizza!). And no trip to Burlington is complete with out a little Ben and Jerrys!
In the winter, the tree and lights are beautiful!
Note: Park in any of the garages - its cheap!

I felt we saw there everything there was to see in a very short time, not enough to keep you entertained for more then one day. Not much variety for restaurants, mostly just sandwiches for choices. It is very clean. The city has a lot of homeless & we were told it is hard to make a living, but the median price of housing is high & the stores were over prices so unsure who they are catering to.

What a great day trip from Stowe! We loved the shops - Zinnia and Frog Hollow were two favorites. Great afternoon stroll.

Underwhelming. I was expecting a vibrant, happening scene. This "downtown marketplace district" was totally asleep. Not a large strip by any means. About four blocks long. A few interesting stores, some eateries, lots of dispensaries, and a few bizarre characters roaming around. Nothing particularly interesting or exciting. Maybe it was the timing, over the July 4th weekend. I don't know, but I was not all that impressed.

We were here on a Thursday. It may be busier and have more to see on a weekend. Half the shops were closed and there were lots of homeless people begging & wandering through the street. I didn’t feel entirely safe.

Nice place to walk, grab a coffee and people watch. A nice touch is they don’t let cars drive the road, making the entire area safe to walk. Very quaint. Loved it!

A few blocks long with streets blocked off. Its still early in the season and was cold so not a lot open but it's a great place in the summer.

Very disappointed! The town needs to clean up the homeless . There are no public bathrooms. You have to buy food/ drink .

This seemed to be the place to be in downtown Burlington. Tons of shops and restaurants. Wide road only open to pedestrian traffic. Worth a stroll through.

Finding a parking place can be a hassle. Handicapped spots are no charge, as long as you have the handtag, or plate. State law. In a cool Covid Sept there were hundreds out. It's a college town, so lots of youngsters out and 'acts' on the street by local talent. There were some 10 empty stores, and a few closed on this Sat at 5pm. These 5 blocks of streets have food and sales from the local stores lining the streets. There was a line for Ben & Jerrys, lots of activity but no problem with my wive driving her mobility cart. I did not see a public bathroom, and with Covid, that gets picky. McDonalds usually has theirs shut. This is total open air, so weather is an important factor. There is a parking deck deck nearby. The meters take CC or a mobile App. Reviews of the App are not good. I always use a secondary CC for these meters as well as stores that still swipe.

Church Street Marketplace is located in the heart of Burlington and is definitely the city's main highlight. Having visited on numerous occasions in the past, I feel though that it has lost some of its vibe
Pros:
Lots of unique, artisanal shops lining the area
Perfect for taking pictures and people watching (don't forget the many dog walkers); definitely check out the many murals as well as the park behind city hall
Great for walking, and yet, a good amount of public benches to take a break
Occasional street performances
Good amount of parking garages nearby; although do plan to spend some time looking for a spot
Historical plaques providing details of the area's history
A Ben and Jerry's store :)
Cons:
The indoor mall has been closed, which is a shame
Many more vagrants in the area; a sign of the times I guess

If you are in Burlington you must go here. Great open air walking area with lots of great shops and plenty of great restaurants. It was active at night and during the day.

My husband and I enjoyed window shopping and looking at the art. My son and daughter-in-law liked it because it was dog friendly even the restaurant they ate at.

We live in the southern part of Vermont and did a day trip to Burlington. Church Street and downtown Burlington are great. So much to see, parks, retail outlets, eateries and more. Visited Church Street during the day and the evening. All was beautiful. Everyone with masks. Social distancing. Felt very comfortable

Over the years the local flavor has faded and big chains have moved in, but it’s still a nice afternoon stroll. There are several restaurants both medium sized and tiny, many with outdoor seating. The ambiance is somewhat diminished by the chain smoking homeless watching you eat, but enhanced by often talented street artists. All in all a mixed bag

We tried two different restaurants in this area and the food was terrible. The waitstaff worse. Unfortunately, many of the shops and restaurants were closed. It looks like it was a lovely area but as in many places the pandemic has taken it toll on Church St too.

Many stores and unique shops. Chocolate shops, Vermont made artisan shoppe,, 10,000 villages shoppe and so much more.

Located in the heart of Burlington, the Church Street Marketplace is a pedestrian street packed with restaurants and shops. After a long stroll in the water front, it is very relaxing to walk down the street or sit outdoors enjoying a cup of ice cream. The Church Street stands out comparing with other streets in town which, unlike you see in some of the Burlington pictures, are quite ordinary.

Fabulous restaurants and great variety of locally owned shops!
Such a beautiful setting by Lake Champlain. Like that it’s pedestrian friendly with the street blocked off to cars.

Lots of shops and restaurants
Great place to spend your Saturday with the family.
There is a lot of atmosphere

What a disappointment. This is definitely not a family friendly place. My husband is a retired police officer and we were appalled at the open use of drugs by the homeless. The homeless are everywhere. They sit in front of the stores and it is very uncomfortable. I will never visit this place again. We can’t understand why there is not a police presence. We never saw a police car during our entire visit to Barre or Burlington.

Always visit the marketplace when I am in town. Always somewhere to go to eat, visit some stores and just walk around and enjoy the area.

Disappointing. Lots of sketchy people and one guy ranting and raving about whatever. Shops are nothing special either. Keep walking to lake and enjoy the views.

We were on Church Street on a very cloudy rainy afternoon. There are shops and resturants. Very picturesque.

Typical for a small city - some major stores and some local ones. Good variety of eateries. Nice to walk up and down the street.. Buy some VT products too!

I love church street and when we're up in Vermont, I love to check out the Saturday market and window shop on Church Street. It was especially fun to bring my kids this year. We weren't there long, just a little stop after breakfast at Handy's and getting a gift for a friend's new puppy, but we did pop into a few stores. It's beautiful in the summer, but the magic is in the fall!

Great area to just walkaround and people watch. Lots of stores, history and a great atmosphere. Highly recommend. Parking did not seem to be an issue, but we may have just gotten lucky.

I was so excited to visit Vermont and this is one spot that I was so glad to see. I love that quiet bustle of this small town

It’s the place if you visit Burlington, VT. Lots of shops and restaurants. Two parking garages with reasonable prices. Jazz Fest in June is very nice time to visit. Must get down to the lakefront too. Restaurants overlooking Lake Champlain is a must.

On our first night in town we walked to dinner past a middle age white man with a guitar screaming, that among other things (and ironically) he was going to kill all the white tourists. As we got a couple of blocks down we could still hear him as 2 police officers walked past us towards him. In three days walking Church street, these were the only officers we saw, but the screaming guy was there the next 3 days playing his guitar for money. Watching people go though the trash in front of Ben & Jerry’s finishing peoples ice cream, carrying open 16oz beers around and riding their bikes between tourists was frequent. A quick Google search reveals the local city council jumped on the defund the police movement desiring to cut badges by 30%. I have plenty of empathy for the homeless and have volunteered my time and money, but merchants have voiced concern with shoplifting and you’re risking attendance at a very nicely done tourist spot.

While in Burlington, my husband and I stopped here. This is listed as one of the most recommended things to do in Burlington. It is a path through the center of Burlington with many stores and restaurants to visit. At the end of the market is a Unitarian Universalist church. We found parking near the lake and walked to this market. Some of the places that looked interesting did not open until 11 am. We did find one souvenir shop with some Burlington memorabilia. The city park next to the market had homeless drug addicts.

Visiting the area. Enjoyed walking the street and visiting the shops. Lots of neat places to explore and plenty of options to eat. Was very clean and well kept.

This is probably the most relaxing way to see part of Burlington: by foot, walking by lots of small shops, coffee shops and places to eat without the annoying presence of passing vehicles. Friendly and cozy ambiance.

This is a lovely part of Burlington. Plenty of meter parking round about. There are some
really cool shops, both chain and local. Also some good restaurants; currently none but one are offering dine in. The covid restrictions and social pressure are heavy here so be sure to have a mask and wear it at all times. We loved the Dobra tea store and frog hollow local VT store. It was a nice place to shop as a couple.

I love this streetI always take my dog when I pop down to Burlington from Montreal, because she is welcome in almost every store. There are a lot of independently owned boutiques, which is a nice break from the Gaps, etc. (although you can find those too if you want them). Most restaurant patios will allow dogs along the railing. So many walking streets around the world are barren and boring. Somehow, Burlington has managed to create a really lovely and lively area. Of note: There is a tiny coffee shop with a dog on the sign (I can't remember the name). I hesitantly poked my head in the door to see if I could enter with my dog and was welcomed! They even had a water bowl near the counter. You'd never see Starbucks do that! Oh, and the coffee was spot on. You'd never see Starbucks do that either. :-)

I have lived in the Burlington VT are since the mid 1980s. I go downtown to the Church St Marketplace from once to several times a week, x 35 years (and counting)...and I still find new things and I still love it.
Great stores, mostly local with a few chain stores added in. Several excellent restaurants and bars to chose from.
It’s a VERY safe and outstandingly clean place. Sometimes it is a challenge to find a parking spot but where else can you go that offers FREE two hour car parking in one of the town’s centrally located parking ramps during business hours?!
The Church St Marketplace offers cool stuff all year long...twinkly lights on the trees all winter, a huge real Christmas tree at the top of Church St every year, and lots of outdoor cart vendors and outside cafe seating during the summer and fall months. Few better summer date nights than securing a small table at one of the many restaurants on Church St, sipping some wine or a fancy local brew, and enjoying the people/dog watching (as well as your date!).
I highly recommend going to Church St in May when the annual marathon is held. The runners all run down Church St and get cheered on by the crowd and its enthusiastic clapping, shouting, whistling and clanging cow bells.

Must visit the market place on a stop to Burlington Vermont. Lots of shops and it’s a nice stroll on a summer day.

Lots of attractions shopping food and more on Church Street Marketplace Loved it! Had Ben & Jerry ice-cream iced coffees and shopped around local stores. Street artists for entertainment. Nice walk from the Community Boathouse Marina easily done with young kids. If you don’t want to walk there is a free shuttle as well.

A great place to walk with no cars allowed. Nice selection of places to shop, eat or have a drink. Very clean and lots of fun lights in the trees.

Minus a few visitors with obvious mental health and/or homeless issues(Its America, you are going to encounter this, even if you feel that should be rounded up) great spot in Burlington. Interesting shops, great restaurants, and a place to visit for sure. Be open-minded, polite, and everything will be ok.

Even though it was near 100 degrees on the day that we visited, the Marketplace it was fun. The pedestrian walkway is terrific. Most of it is flat and accessible although the walkways are brick and a bit bumpy. This is an unusually flat area in Burlington. There are pubic parking lots nearby - but you may have to walk a couple of blocks to get to the Marketplace area. There are a number of specialty and clothing stores with many restaurants. There is a great chocolate and ice cream store with an outside table or two if you need to sit and cool off. We had lunch at Hanson's where you can eat inside or outside and the food was excellent. There are a number of other places with outside dining. There are shade trees and benches in the shade if you would like to sit and people-watch for a time. I heard people in our hotel say that didn't like the "mall" - so if you are not a person who enjoys cities with people walking dogs and some "unusual people" walking around - then avoid it. We are from the DC area and it was a totally normal experience for us. We loved it and would visit again if I had the opportunity.

What a beautiful area of town and so nice to walk up and down the street with no cars. Lots of great shops and places to eat plus go up and down the side streets as well. Normally an area like this has tacky souvenir shops but this is not the case on Church Street.

Nice area of Burlington, not too far from the shores of Lake Champlain. We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn just down the street and strolled through the marketplace at night. It was a bit chilly, but the white twinkling lights were beautiful and the Christmas tree at the end of the tree was immense. Gorgeous all lit up.
I imagine this area is packed in the warmer months with most of the restaurants having outdoor dining. It was pretty quiet on the night of our visit, but the stores were open and the restaurants were serving plenty of customers. I like when you go to a city and a section of it is blocked off. You don’t have to worry about traffic and can leisurely walk around.

Description makes it sound like such a neat place as well as pictures. Cool looking when you see the area, but very disappointing. Expected to find lots of fun, cool shops and restaurants. Not there. Actually a pretty dreary place. Looks neat to just look down the street, but that's it. Nothing to spend any time for in the area.

great take to see local crafts and good food. nice to not have to worry about cars. would definitely return here

We just stumbled upon it not knowing about it. We thought it was amazing. We were just killing some time before flying back home. It was the last day of our vacation. We are going back this year at the beginning of our vacation.

Very nice to walk around.
Unfortunately due to corona not all was open, however Banana Republic was and our shopping began.
They have nice restaurants and lots of pizza places

My son brought me here on a visit to Burlington because he knew I loved to shop. Great location with a lot of the nicer stores plus some interesting smaller ones. I liked the parking garage which put us right in the middle of the pedestrian mall. It was a chilly night so being close was that much better. Another benefit is that the first two hours of parking were free! My only complaint was that there were not any public restrooms. You had to visit a restaurant to find one.

looks like nice, lively pedestrian zone throughout the day. good for people watching, eating, coffee, snacks. large choice of restaurants. short walk to waterfront park.

We just stayed overnight in Burlington prior to catching a flight home and figured this would be a great place to explore. It was! An open air, pedestrian only walk-mall, it had a lot of the name brand stores you would expect to see - BUT there were some great restaurants and local "Shop Small" businesses that of course we visited. Plenty of different restaurants and bars to enjoy and with the festive lighting at night - made it feel magical. We did not have trouble finding a place to park, but it is metered parking that does take credit cards. We had a blast!

Excellent mix of pubs, coffee, tea, restaurants and shopping on this walking street. On this Saturday local artists and craftsmen had extra booths up. A good place for a walk. Watch for cars on the cross streets

This is a delight to see and walk around. You can have great food anywhere you go, the shopping is fabulous. Mirabelle's, Penny Cluse for breakfast is a most go. The muddy shake from Muddy Waters is heaven on Earth.

this is a great area in Downtown Burlington VT....Lots of shops and restaurants....great for walking and just relaxing... this area becomes Much Busier and active at nighttime but is lots of fun....check around for food prices as some resturants are better value for your dollar than others ....enjoy...

Mainly clothing and jewelry shops. Was hoping for more of a variety of specialty shops. It is easy to navigate as it is located on a closed street for pedestrians only. There is outdoor dining for nice days. Several restaurants to select from.

what is not to love about Church st? shopping and restaurants. close to music venues. great people watching.

Great spot has great shops great food great people great shops great restaurants love this spot definitely a great area love Burlington Vermont

The Church Street Marketplace is located near the center of downtown Burlington, Vermont. It is also located just a short walk up the hill from the Waterfront Park and Lake Champlain. Burlington is located near the northwest corner of the small state of Vermont. Since it’s an open-air street, it is always open.
I visited this interesting downtown pedestrian only street with my wife on a Saturday afternoon in late July and enjoyed walking around. We easily parked in a metered spot about 50 feet from Church Street. We talked to locals that expressed a little frustration with parking in downtown Burlington on busy days, but we saw several open spots. There are lots of shops and restaurants on this street and the best place was the booth that sold fresh squeezed lemonade (since we were hot). We did a lot of window shopping and entered a couple of stores but did not end up buying anything.
Overall, I enjoyed visiting this open-air marketplace and recommend it. This is a must-see destination if you are visiting Burlington (unless the weather is bad). Burlington was smart to ban cars on this street and turn it into a tourist spot (and a place for locals to shop and eat).

We didn't get to spend too much time here, as we arrived a little late and many of the places were closing, if not already closed. For the stores we did visit, the people working seemed very friendly. The street looks nice enough, but is also resembles many of the shopping areas in New England, so it doesn't stand out as very unique for the area. It is true though, the homeless are everywhere! Way more here than in the other towns that we visited. No one bothered us, and to be honest, I'm not usually bothered by people with that lifestyle, but I know some people are more sensitive than others, so if you've read other posts about it, then I'm just here to let you know that it's true.

We were there twice in one weekend. A few hours early afternoon and had lunch, bought Lake Champlain Company chocolates and window shopped! Very pleasant. The place to be at night too for drinks or drinks and dinner inside or out. Ben and Jerry’s. Lots of stores you know and different boutiques. Parking on street with meters... bring quarters, dimes & buckles. Parking garages too. It’s about four-five blocks long. Family and dog friendly atmosphere!

We enjoyed strolling the Church Street Marketplace, visiting stores, eating at a Turkish restaurant and appreciating the masked, socially-distanced fellow strollers appreciating a late afternoon outing.

Enjoyable area to walk and shop. Several good restaurants and pubs. Parking was difficult but probably just because I had not been to this area prior. Dog friendly.

We went to look around the shops but ended up spending the bulk of the time on a bathroom hunt. The restaurants actually looked good, but it was too early for lunch and we really needed to “go”.

I'd love to go more often but I don't have so much time.
Going there relaxes me a lot and I love taking family members and friends there.
It's a lovely place for anyone and my first visit is to Lake Champlain Chocolate store to get a delicious ice-cream and grab some toffees and chocolates to take with me! Some stores are very attractive and nice to look inside and even if prices may be a little more expensive than other areas, you have to consider that it's a tourist area and rents are very high, so retailers have to eat that cost too. If you go in a sunny day, you'll enjoy a lot and if you have kids, it's a safe area as cars aren't admitted so you can walk very peacefully.

Clean, safe, place to ship and eat. Many Bistros and Restaurants were closed. I assume due to COVID and Manning issues. Places that were open were ready and willing to provide great service.

Not as many fun stores as I would have liked to see here. Not as many fun places to eat either. We did walk up and down looking for something interesting. All I can say is there are way too many people asking for food or money. Too many kids who look like hoodlums sitting on the street. Some were even harassing the shoppers. Not a place I would go alone or trust my child to go to alone.

came here with another couple. The men repaired to Starbucks to enjoy an iced coffee al fresco. The ladies were off shopping and enjoying a stroll. Parking garage is close by.

WhT a wonderful eclectic stroll amongst the shops of Church Street. Everything you might want and need (and many things you didn’t know you needed) can be found here. Great array of restaurants. This has to be a “must” visit for anyone who visits Burlington!!!!

A nice walking area in downtown Burlington. Walking distance to the waterfront Bemus point. Clean with sitting area, shops and restaurant.

OMG Church street is not what it was 4 or 5 years ago
Half the stores are closed Macy’s
Pottery barb … William Sonoma etc etc
The downtown mall is closed and will be destroyed
Same thing concerning restaurants
People doing drugs in perfect daylight
Trashes on the grass in parks
Pot smell everywhere
Very sad

We've been when it's cold, when it's hot, and everything in between. Just a nice place to wander around and do as much as you want, nothing or it all. Plenty of places to shop and eat in Burlington so you don't need to stick to Church Street. It's just part of the Burlington charm.

My wife and I were very happy to visit the Church Street Market. The stores are great. They offer a variety of products. In general well priced. Pedestrian zone walking. Lots of places to eat as well

This is a mall that runs 3 blocks, not an undercover market like I thought it might be. There is heaps of choices of places to eat and shop, which can be dangerous if you’re with someone that likes to shop!

This is the hot spot street in Burlington. There are no cars aloud in this area. It is filled with all types of music, bars and restaurants

This is a must see if you visit Vermont. Be sure to visit the small Vermont only shops sprinkled throughout (like Vermont Flannel and the liquor place who’s name I can’t remember). Great restaurants but make a reservation during the busy season.

After our lake cruise we decided to head to the market place. This area is pedestrian friendly and filled with restaurants and stores featuring a variety of goods and services. Keep in mind if you plan to shop and buy this place if full of over priced products and services. And the you better be a dog lover, because almost every store allows them and all dogs do not play nicely together. However if your looking to kill a few hours and getting some exercise this place will fit the bill.

Church street is a very friendly area (including dogs) with lots of outdoor dining options. Plenty of great stores too!

I visited Burlington, VT for the first time. And I must say that downtown Burlington was so beautiful. I am more drawn to cities with tall skylines, and this does not describe Burlington. But that is fine by men. I particularly liked Church Street Marketplace. it was neat and had some really nice stores and restaurants. More downtown areas should have shopping districts like this.

We were in Burlington at the peak of Fall foliage. It was beautiful and Church Stteet was our favorite. The street is lined with many small shops and places to eat.. The street is lined with trees and some of them have lights in them to add a little whimsy to the exoerience. We would definitely go there again.

Unfortunately I was expecting more. I was expecting local vendors with food and artistic creations, but found it was just a street that didn’t allow traffic on it. I would call it an outdoor mall versus a marketplace. Burlington must be a dog-loving city because Church street was filled with people walking their dogs.
We were able to walk down to the waterfront and that didn’t disappoint. They had a beautiful boardwalk with bench swings. Families, couples etc. were enjoying the waterfront

Nice spot overall but a very strange neighborhood approaching it from the south. Lots of stores and restaurants evidently popular with university students.

The Church St. Marketplace is 3 blocks of a pedestrian-only street, filled with a variety of stores, restaurants, and more. This is a great area to hang out in the evenings or in the afternoon. Definitely a must-visit in Burlington.

The Church Street Marketplace doesn't change. Maybe it will be interesting that they have new stores on the Church Street Marketplace!

not really its own destination, but a pedestrianized street for walking, shopping and dining. Very enjoyable.

Charming pedestrian walk with food, shops, pubs, etc. For a crunchy place like Burlington, the vendors could be a bit less corporate in feel, but otherwise a pleasant place to spend some time.

Loved this stretch of shops! Fun to do if you have a few hours set aside! I'd recommend shopping and planning a stop for lunch/dinner. Just a few blocks from Waterfront Park! You can easily make a 1/2 day of this strip when combined with a meal, strolling Waterfont, etc.

So fun to see local artists, local products and restaurants all together. Shoes - great options in every style, clothing casual to black tie, art works paintings/glass/wood/pottery and so many beverage and food choices.

Must go destination if you are in Burlington. Fabulous restaurants, great shopping with loads of local artists work to purchase. Galleries galore and beautiful architecture.
Weekends you will find bands on the street playing all types of music. short walk from here to the waterfront.

We came here on a Sunday morning. It is nicely done with little cafes and upscale stores. It is a nice place to spend a couple hours. However, it is only 3 blocks long and when you step out of the marketplace, there are empty buildings and some seedy people hanging around which made me uncomfortable. Some of the stores are expensive too. We found parking at some meters. Nice place to shop and eat in the middle of Burlington.

We ate outside at the Marketplace. I love people-watching, and there was plenty of that there. We also walked up and down the pedestrian malls and since I am an architecture freak I loved looking at all the old buildings. (The Unitarian Church was a draw). We also went down to Lake Champlain, which was pretty, and to Citizen Cider--bought some to take back to Wisconsin. Lovely city.

The historic plaque on the Church Street Marketplace gives the background for this uniquely Burlington and New England pedestrian landmark which was dedicated in the early 1980s. Burlington is the largest city in Vermont but it is still a small town, boosted by the student population at the Univ. of Vermont. The Church Street Marketplace has many chain stores but some location purveyors as well. For example, one of the original Ben & Jerry ice cream shops is at the Marketplace, as is David’s Tea, and an old time photography studio. Note that there are not too many restaurants and scarcely any microbreweries or pubs at the Marketplace, but there is a microbrewery nearby and one or two cafes at the Marketplace.
The Church Street Marketplace It is a delightful space to stroll on a fall day in Vermont with the foliage changing.

Super cute marketplace. Brick lined street. Closed off to cars. Different array of shops. Good restaurants. Alleyways. Art.

We loved the shops and the ability to stop along the way and just people watch. Park the car and walk, wander in and out of the shops, and find a table outside for lunch and a cocktail or beer.

Great place to watch people and check out some good restaurants. Summertime outdoor dining under colorful umbrellas. Don't forget the side streets have shops and food options also. Dogs on leash are present so be aware with children.

We enjoyed the market - quite a bit to see. The downside is that there really wasn't anything we wanted to purchase. But, a nice visit and browsing for awhile.

We went looking forward to the shops and restaurants. We found the area taken over by homeless. We encountered a shouting match and we didn’t really feel safe. No business allowed public use of restrooms so we felt unwelcome

My wife and I had dinner at RiRa on the main pedestrian area and enjoyed the people watching... until someone clearly on drugs harassed and accosted a woman who’d done nothing to him except for the (perceived) sin of walking by the chip on his shoulder, later following her and continuing to yell at her even when she walked away without retorting. It definitely ruined the pleasant atmosphere and showed what happens when drug users feel confident to roam the streets and harangue innocent people without fear of a police presence (of which there was none until much later on). Hooray for legalization...? :|

Church Street Marketplace is a must-visit on any trip to Burlington. It's the happening place to eat and shop. There's always something going on no matter the season.

Always busy lots of things to see beautiful view of lake in warmer months. There are many restaurants options to choose from. There is always a lot of activity in this area and very fun to walk through.

Church Street is more than a shopping plaza. It is a place to people watch, to take in a gallery, to sip tea or grab ethnic food. It is the heart of Burlington!

We stopped in on a Sunday. It was cold and a little rainy. Most shops were cloths, household/decor and a variety of other shops. Most didn’t interest us, but it was still nice to see. We walked 3 of the 4 blocks. The weather had us leaving early.

We visited early (9:00 am) on a Saturday morning in search of breakfast. Looked basically deserted except for homeless people asking for money. Disappointed. Seems to be the way of things in downtown areas these days.

Walking through here and checking out all the Christmas lights and displays was definitely the highlight of visiting downtown for me. They made this area so beautiful for the holidays. I totally recommend visiting in the winter time for the holidays, as it feels like you’re inside a Hallmark Movie!

Shops, restaurants with outdoor dining, and live music. Very good people watching! We enjoyed strolling along this area!

This is a must while visiting Burlington. It’s a great place to shop, people watch and grab a quick snack. There are so many shops that we didn’t get to browse in all of them. Burlington has so much to offer and it’s a vibrant city.

Beautiful weather led to a bit more time being spent shopping and people watching - but it was a little unnerving when the homeless people were as aggressive as they were. It was good seeing the police presence when it was busy.

The marketplace has many cute shops and restaurants. Dog friendly. Street entertainment ar every turn. I was disappointed with the amount of commercial shops. I expected the stores to be more unique. Some of the stores were very high end and expensive. The area is beautiful just uphill from Lake Champlain. I went during the afternoon, but with the lights strung over the streets, it seems like a great place to be at night as well.

Visited Burlington for a few days. Both nights we dined on Church Street. Great restaurants. Great food. Great lively vibrant atmosphere! Fun time.

Great place to stroll. We didn't go into any stores because of Covid but I would assume it's a nice place to check out shops. Lots of restaurants and outdoor seating (not sure if that was only because if the pandemic). Lovely destination.

Burlington Vt church Street is a cool place to visit with activities going on at night . Street Parking meters are free after 6 pm . There is plenty of shops in this pedestrian shopping area of Burlington. Stop and grab a Ben and Jerry's ice cream 🍨 cone and enjoy the sites.

I remember Church Street before they closed it off. It is now become one of the best walking streets I have ever been on. This past weekend was the Discover Jazz Festival. Brilliant artists playing on open stages. Wonderful food everywhere you turn and some of the best people watching anywhere. For shopping, there is a solid mix of national chains and local ownership that truly compliment each other. For food, you really can't go wrong at any of the restaurants. And, if you want something quick, the street food is exceptional as well. Of course there is always Ben & Jerry's for desert, but also give Lake Champlain Chocolates a visit. Plenty of chocolate, but their small batch ice cream is incredible. Day or night, plenty of fun for everyone.

We were there about 10 days before Christmas and it had snow so the walk along the sidewalk was beautiful. There are shops and restaurants although not everything is open every day. Seems lots close Sunday and Monday.

so dissapointed! the shops were not that great at all.I think i liked the olive oil store and the home port store which had everything and had 3 levels.Outside of that it was a bunch of beggers and stoned people dancing around the streets because the canibus trolley which is a store was parked in the middle of the street and its legal so they were getting stoned and acting a fool.Didnt eat on the street which all restaurants had their tables outside ,was truley dissapointed and thank god that was the last stop on my vaction.walked the street and high tailed it out of there!

What an interesting walk along the brick covered streets with a multitude of shops, eateries, bakeries almost anything you can think of. We stopped off and ordered a latte sat and in a nearby bench and watched all the interesting people walk by. Close by was a co-op supermarket with anything to eat from suchi to prepared dinners to sweet pastries. A must to see while in Burlington!

Walking up and down Church Street is one of the great pleasures of visiting Burlington. Just poking into the shops, then resting on the many public benches and People watching is a great way to spend a day. However, Burlington often has events that spill over from Church Street to the Town Common, to all around town, like the Festival of Fools, or Jazz days or street performers

Worth taking a stroll, we visited on a Sunday and the garage nearby offered free parking which was a bonus. Festive outdoor space, lots of shops to choose from. Some buskers performing in the streets, food and restaurants along the way.

Dining! Street performers! Eclectic stores! Loved our visit here. Got a kick out of all the patrons out with their dogs. Got our doggie fix, missing our pooches while on vacation. Parking in the area is a bit of a challenge, but it is worth the effort.

In Burlington Vermont a nice pedestrian only area with shops and restaurants. There is a nice mural in an alley showing the history of Vermont as well as a few interesting statues and buildings. Very beautiful when lit up at night when the snow is falling!

I expected to see a very cool and vibrant scene and like another reviewer mentioned it felt dreary.

the concept was nice but it was a little too run down feeling, and I dont see a way to fix it up - I think it might be a lost cause.

Nice stroll along the bricked pedestrian street filled with charming shops. They definitely cater to the student population in the area.

Spent quite a bit of time on Church Street. We did a lot of walking up and down just window shopping. Great place to hang out, plenty going on for people of all ages.

Lots of great places to eat and places to shop in the center of town. Our kids really loved the original Ben & Jerry's location.

After a slight down turn in businesses etc, the marketplace has had a renaissance. New businesses have revitalized this cobblestoned gem. Quaint shops to browse in, a wide array of eateries and pubs with terraces. Local buskers help create a welcoming ambience. Safe and clean, family friendly - dogs too! Parking not hard to find. Great summer evening vibe! Glad to be back! Nicely done, Burlington!

Great pedestrian area. Easy to navigate, with lots of shops and restaurants. There’s something for everyone here, in all price ranges. Fabulous Frog in the Hollow is here- artists’ coop shop, with unique items, ranging from cards to pottery to jewelry. Not to be missed if you are in Burlington.

We truly enjoyed staying in an Airbnb within walking distance to everything. Church Street Marketplace was fantastic. It is a pedestrian walking market with lots of local stores and restaurants. It was clean and well taken care of. We also took a ride on the Ethan Allen II. Lake Champlain was beautiful.

This would be one of the best malls we have ever visited. Full of interesting shops, bars & restaurants. No empty shops here!

Great place to hang out. However outrages prices from clothes to the restaurants. The street is long as I imagined. Unfortunately they have homeless people on the street with their dogs..how sad. This is a one and done for me.

Church Street Marketplace is a fun way to spend an afternoon shopping or people watching. There are a variety of shops including Vermont flannel shirts and a University of Vermont shop that has maple syrup and other nice souvenir items. There is a pharmacy, several clothing stores, restaurants, and a Ben and Jerry's ice cream shop. We were there on a Tuesday in September and even though it was raining, there were a lot of people shopping, visiting the coffee shops or walking around. The area is restricted to pedestrians, so it was pleasant to cross the street when you wanted to see something on the other side. The only downside is the Burlington Coat Factory has moved away from Church Street.

We arrived in Burlington for the first time about 3PM, and made our way to Church Street Marketplace by 4:30. Such a quaint place. Since it was a Tuesday during "stick season", places were closed, and many closed by 5 or 6. There were quite a few people-but not crowded by any means. But...it was a gorgeous day, and we knew that it might start a light rain by 6 or so, and we wanted to see the area.
We were happy to have visited. Went in a few little shops-enjoyed the sun going down and the lights coming up.

We were staying downtown and Church Street was only about a 5 minute walk. We had some great food there and it was fun to walk around and see all the shops.
This was a great place to do some shopping, get some great food, and people watch at you leisure. Plenty of shade or sun depending on which way you wanted to go. It was spacious enough even with all the people to enjoy the time there.
