Pros and Cons

By SGcvn69 |

Pros: It’s a beautiful museum by itself! FREE street parking on the weekends! FREE admission to the regular collection I believe! Gorgeous grounds, helpful staff, friendly staff, great variety of collections, etc. I would give five stars to all that!

Cons: The gift shop is expensive af! Which is why I knocked off a star, but I guess it keeps me from buying more stuff!

I went for the Murakami exhibit and that was fun! I thought there would’ve been more, but it’s ok! Got through that, walked around the whole place to get my Murakami stamps and then off to lunch I went! Overall, I would come back again! They have a parking garage for $14 I believe. Go early! It gets a bit crowded! I drove 2.5 hours to visit! Cafe on site. Other attractions nearby within walking distance also!

Varied art works

By Diane - DiscoveryOnADime |

The museum has so many varied exhibits! Our favorite is the armor gallery, though I also enjoy the impressionist paintings and the ancient Egyptian work. No matter what you enjoy, you'll find something at the museum. There's no fee to enter, and parking is $12.

Great art collection

By Aprilp2412 |

Dang, Ohio has fantastic museums! Who would have known?? I have been to some of the best art museums in the world and this is right up there with the best of them. I was surprised and happy to find that it is free to visit. You do have to pay for parking but all things considered that is nothing. We came during COVID and they did a great job of keeping things clean and separate. The collection is large so be prepared to spend the good part of your day here exploring. They have everything from statues to paintings, from ancient Egyptian to modern american. If you are an art and/or museum lover you will be very satisfied.

Wonderful space, great variety in the collection.

By Ed M |

Enjoyed the contemporary collection, needed more time to spend in the wonderful space, especially the central courtyard space.

Exceeded Expectations

By Ann K |

Pleasantly impressed by this well-organized and IMHO fantastically curated museum. Pre-booked an entry time on Sunday morning for that afternoon. Auto-scan temperature as you enter, hand sanitizer readily available throughout museum.
I've been through many Art Museums, and enjoyed the variety and quality here in Cleveland. Kudos to all involved in curating and running this fantastic facility.

Exceeded Expectations

By kleic |

I love art museums and had high expectations for this one ... and it far, far exceeded them. The architecture is astonishing and worth a visit alone; the glass enclosed space is so light-filled and the newer galleries are beautifully designed. The collection is diverse and not too overwhelming, the curation is thoughtful, and the special exhibitions were really engaging. If I lived in Cleveland, I'd visit often!

FREE and a decent size

By imrico |

I had this rated at 4 stars, but I changed it to 5. The museum is a good size with some very nice pieces, but the fact that its FREE for all, that puts it to a 5 for me. Now if I were comparing against the Met or the Louvre it would rank probably a 3, but once again, free art is amazing. Good for you CLE!

Worth the trip!

By jmch491 |

One of the best, varied collections among museums worldwide. I spent two days here, and thoroughly enjoyed visiting the permanent collection -- and the special exhibits of Degas and Suzhou (China). I took the docent tour both days, and each volunteer docent was friendly, knowledgeable, and a pleasure to tour with.

Stroller Friendly

By AdorableK |

We always like going. The museum is so big it took us many visits to see everything. Stroller friendly with lots of elevators and huge aisles.

Tops!

By Bailey A |

Superb art museum with beautiful architecture as well as diverse collection.
Went with my sister the Art Teacher, who declared it 5 stars. Too much to see in one trip

An adventure without the passport

By Dionne J |

I love visiting the CMA. There is something for everyone from documentary screenings to Tiffany Lamp exhibits. Take the time to visit this local treasure. You won't be disappointed.

Great Curations

By Justin |

It’s a very well curated museum that covers a lot of global ground (especially in the Middle Eastern and African artifact department). Free admission is an added bonus.

Spectacular Wedding Venue

By lisa c |

The museum was the most amazing venue for our daughter's wedding! From the ceremony set up on the South Terrace lawn, to the dramatic stairs that the bride and her dad walked down, to the spectacular Atrium cocktail hour/dinner/and dancing (with outstanding servers)...I have never been to a more stunning event!

Surprised

By Trish H |

I haven’t visited in 30 years, in that time it has more than doubled in size and expanded the collection. The Asian Art is stil there but the masters collection has expanded Also a great collection of Armor
3 hours was not long enough I will return to complete my tour

Shoddy Exhibition Catalogue - Valois Tapestries

By Kerrie-rue M |

I can say that I was asked to help two curators with this catalogue. Unfortunately, it is filled with historical, factual errors. The statement that Catherine de Medici commissioned the Valois Tapestries is simply not true. Why would this be stated in the catalogue and without a source? My own work in it, was unfortunately mis-represented and the bibliography and footnotes inflated. I am unable to comment on most of the catalogue that has to do with the restoration of these internationally famous tapestries. But, I can say that the basic information and the substance of Chapter 1 - and my contributions - are not to be believed. Indeed, catalogues are known for their solid research and expertise. This, sadly, was put together at the last minute and is obviously as any professor or scholar can see, (Chapter 1 in particular) pulled together at the last minute, with uncited sources, mis-information and overall inaccurate and wrong about the provenance of the tapestries. Shame.

A Great Visit Through the History Of Art.

By Vic S |

A great cross-section of art through history. It's not in the class of the Louvre, the British Museums, Rijksmuseum, Art Institute in Chicago, or New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, but it certainly is right next to them. A great selection of art nevertheless, covering all of the major periods of art and gives a great representation of what those other major museums have. And most gratefully, a negligible few pieces of "modern art". The main building is connected to three other galleries with a very nice, pleasant glass enclosed atrium. And you can't find a finer setting with the gardens and pond of the Wade Park in which it is located. And all of that is Free! The surrounding museums give the location a great place to visit. The drive on MLK Blvd to the Museum is also a great experience. I wish there were more parking spots off the street near all of the cultural gardens along the way. The stone bridges are just a nice welcoming symbol of a rich past. A great treasure of Cleveland.

Wow, they have lots of pretty pictures!

By BuilderBear |

I am not a trained connoisseur of fine art but this museum had more than enough to keep me interested for the afternoon. The size and breadth of the collection is stunning and there really is something for everyone. From medieval armor to walk-through sculptures to ancient artifacts this museum is informative and interesting.

One of the underrated aspects is the architectural layout which is an attraction in its own right. The courtyard with the green space was breathtaking. There was a wedding staged while we were there, so it was busy, but still neat to observe.

Incredible place to visit!

By T L Ward |

On par with Chicago Art Institute! I visited both in the same year and was blown away by the Cleveland Museum. The building is as spectacular as the art.

Lunch

By Rene H |

The cafeteria has good food and a great selection. One is able to eat in the atrium and then wonder into the free sections of the museum.

This museum has an amazing art collection

By cakedeco |

This is an incredible art museum that offers an extensive collection of art from all periods and lands. Admission to the museum is free. There is a paid parking lot and some on street parking with meters.

Their temporary exhibits are some of the finest in the country. Some are free and some charge an entrance fee.

Great museum... Staff were a bit pretentious

By Melissa |

Very nice musem with great collections that were well laid out. Beautiful building! Overall however I found the staff that not that welcoming. With so much closed, this could be a time to reach out to some that might not of thought of spend an afternoon at a musem. Instead it felt unnecessarily nick picky compared to other venues & COVID precautions.

I could get lost!

By BobbiGalvin |

There wasn't enough time for me to see everything. I will definitely go back. I am hoping the staff is a bit friendlier next time, though.

Excellent, and well, well worth visiting

By Matt M |

A phenomenal and top notch attraction, which well deserves the praise it receives and its place among the great art museums. A wonderful, extensive and diverse collection which is well worth seeing

A treasure full of treasures

By Mario C |

This museum has always been one of my favorites in the world. I find it amazing so many people that live close by have never visited it. The museum is FREE and parking is reasonable. Be sure to reserve tickets in advance due to covid. Go enjoy the treasure that awaits you.

Great Surprise!

By berzh |

Not being an art guru I had no idea what to expect. Was pleasantly surprised and impressed. Check it out!

Excellent Venue

By Help999_12 |

This museum is fascinating. There is so much there. It is beautifully set out and items are well scripted. The building itself is airy and a pleasant environment. this is well worth a visit, Furthermore it is free entry unless there is a special exhibition. It only cost $12 to see Michelangelo's sketches

On the Cutting Edge of Old Masters

By msm |

The Cleveland Museum of Art is one of the top museums in the U.S., and there are over 3500 reviews praising it on TripAdvisor alone. It doesn't need yet another recommendation.

This review is intended only to call more attention to the ArtLens Wall, just off the atrium. Its room is a playground for all ages, with millions of pixels-worth of tiles displaying art works on multiple touchscreens. Touch an image you like, and it enlarges, tells you which gallery houses the work, and gives you information about the piece. Further touches let you delve more deeply with offers to show you images by the same artist, or from the same period, or of the same type. A connected app for smartphones lets you download the images and information and set up your own tour of the museum. This is an innovation that teaches and delights--and in that it achieves an ideal.

If you visit in the spring/summer of 2024, don't overlook the "Seven Jeweled Mountain" immersive experience. The 10-min. presentation combines images from a 14th century folding screen (on display just outside the video room) with a 16th century account of a hike through that scenery. It's an extraordinarily peaceful and absorbing experience.

Wow! One of the best art museums in the United States

By 907blaked |

We were blown away by this museum. They've done a fantastic job preserving the old building from 1916 but creating a new space, and the collection itself was impressive. It seems like they had at least "1 of everything," ranging from every era and country imaginable. And FREE!! Not very crowded when we went on a Tuesday in June. We spent about 2.5 hours there, and we could have spent even more. A wonderful jewel for the city of Cleveland.

Beautiful museum to visit

By James J |

Beautiful museum with a grand atrium, lots of exhibits from different cultures (Egyptian, Asian, African), time periods. Free is always a plus! Within walking distance of the Natural History Museum. Food is available here with great selection for a museum.

A City Museum To Rival Any National Museum.

By Paul D |

A nice selection of automobiles, motorcycles and planes. The museum has a good display of Cleveland's black history and women's suffrage history as well as a display of famous pop culture icons.

A Very Nice Art Museum

By TravelerCentralFLA |

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the Cleveland Museum of Art. I didn't know what to expect, but I almost always enjoy art museums. The museum has a very nice collection. There are sections with art from Asia, Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, Ancient Egypt, and Ancient Babylon. The museum is laid out well and it is pretty easy to navigate. In their Western Art collection there are some really nice pieces from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. The hall that contained the armor and weapons was fascinating and contained many beautiful examples of arms from Medieval and early Modern Europe. I enjoyed some of the baroque pieces by Tintoretto and van Hontorst. I liked seeing some of the Benjamin West works that were in the museum as well. Art from the last 100 years or so was well represented as well. There are some very nice works by Monet, Renoit, Matisse, Picasso, and Dalí. The object labels throughout the museum were very informative and helpful. They did help me to understand pieces that I was unfamiliar with.
I really enjoyed my visit and I recommend a visit to the Cleveland Museum of Art.

All this AND free admission?!

By Bruce Paul R |

Inspiring place, inspiring spaces, inspiring works of art! We were enthralled with our visit here and it changed our perspective on the city of Cleveland in a very positive way.
Make a visit here as a must when visiting the area!

Amazing place to visit!

By Paula |

This museum has some beautiful artwork here. We really enjoyed going thru all the rooms. We got our tickets online, tickets are free and the parking garage is $10.00. As soon as you step inside go-to information and get a map. We actually only got thru the upstairs of the museum. This can easily be an all-day experience. They have a nice place to get lunch. The gift shop was pricey in my opinion and we didn't buy anything, but again the tickets were free. The museum was easy to find and is in a very pretty part of town.

A Real Gem!

By IdaIllinois |

We had the opportunity to visit the Cleveland Museum of Art in September and found it to be one of the finest art museums to which we have been. It is full of the works of many well-known artists displayed in a wonderful array of rooms.
Located on a museum campus with the Natural History Museum, the art building is fairly easy to find in downtown Cleveland. Parking is in a covered lot where you ascend to the third level for a spot. Navigation in the three buildings is assisted by a handy map that you can obtain on entrance.
The covered atrium area of the museum is a remarkable area to relax, read, contemplate, or just think. There is a café, chairs, a gift shop, special exhibitions, and an area with bean bags that has surround sound playing different music.
We especially enjoyed the Impressionist era works, the Georgia O’Keeffe art, and the Tiffany gallery. The special exhibition of monsters in art was great.
We spent about two hours wandering here and will definitely come back for the audio tour.

Excellent exhibits

By Donald H |

It’s hard to believe there’s so much to see in a museum that is free! If you have any interest in art at all this is a must see. From paintings to artifacts that date back to 3500BC. You just won’t be able to take it in in one visit.

Top Notch

By herenow21 |

If you enjoy art, you will have a good time here. As others have said, they have a great collection. The staff were great. I had a chance to chat with a few people and they were all very helpful and made suggestions on other places to visit. Being free was great as it gave me a chance to take a break and step outside for some fresh air in the park before coming back to visit the rest of the collection.

Art museum

By Rachael M |

Waiting for a wedding ceremony, needed to kill time with a group of friends. Awesome that the museum is free. Great way to spend the afternoon. Parking can be a challenge if you're looking for free parking.

A rare disappointing return

By Len L |

Just visited the otherwise top-notch facility to view what was advertised as special private collection including works from famous Impressionist era artists.
Only a scant number of items from Matisse, et. al. which seemed like something less than the high standards usually found here.
Can't win 'em all.

Fabulous setting

By Steve D |

Situated in a picturesque park, a lot to see while no being a cluttered, jam packed or overwhelming. Enjoyed my time there, but wish I had more time to explore the area surrounding the museum.

A Gem

By Kay C |

This visit was my 6th visit in the two years I have lived in NE Ohio. I was so thankful
for the reopening during this time of Covid-19! The museum is so spacious yet so warm & inviting. Once you are standing in front of a Renoir, a Miró, a Picasso, a Homer, an O’Keefe...you feel like you are the only person in the room! The collection is amazing! Surround yourself with art and the wonder of this museum! You will not be disappointed with this gem!

Great collections!

By bymollyjack |

Tiffany Special Collection was wonderful! Many representative art pieces to see. Was intrigued by the helpful stories our docent provided. Ask about Agnus Martin and her The City piece (1966)

Spring break visit with the family

By Matt D |

We were blown away by the quality of the art museum. We didn't do much research ahead of time so we had no expectations. What a beautiful museum. We figured on maybe 2 hours but were there for at least 4. Great variety of art and the kids loved the extensive medieval armor/weaponry collection. Would gladly visit again.

all over the word art

By Jilly L |

Loved the different exhibits and the atmosphere. My only suggestion I download the museum app on your phone to fallow some of the paintings while you're walking the museum.

Lovely Visit to a Well Done Museum

By Abamagal |

What a nice museum. Everything is nicely curated. The Art is magnificent! I never expected so many Master originals in Cleveland. We thoroughly enjoyed our short visit of 2 hours. We certainly could have stayed longer, there’s plenty so see. And to add a cherry on top, it’s completely FREE.

A Pleasure To Be Among So Much Treasure

By margatemensch2016 |

Recently,I returned to the splendid Cleveland Museum of Art and spent two days enjoying it once more.Since its art collections are so prodigious,I have restricted my review to its excellent collections of Byzantine,Gothic, and Renaissance works of Art.I wanted to spend a third day there, but the Cleveland Museum of Art closed down temporarily, due to Covid 19.
In the Byzantine section,I especially enjoyed Berlinghieri Berlinghaio's Italian Byzantine Triptych,"Triptych of Virgin and Christ With Passion of Christ and Crucifixion of Saint Andrew".Other highlights were Ivory Box With Scenes of Adam and Eve 1100'sAD,"Evangelist Saint Luke Portrait in Gospel Book Single Leaf 1440-1480(Central Ethiopia)",and Icon Tapestry of Virgin and Christ Christ Child 500 AD(Egypt Byzantine),among others.
After I studied their Byzantine Collections,I segued over to their Gothic Art Collections from France,Flanders,Italy,Spain, and Germany.I saw splendid sculpture by Claus Van Werwe and Jean de La Huerta depicting mourners at the Tombs of Phillip the Bold and John the Fearless employing vizile alabaster.I also relished the Guelph Treasures and the "Spitzer Cross"done by German Craftsmen.
I saw wonderful Gothic Period Paintings by Jean de Beaumetz("Calvary With Carthusian Monk),Pisan Painter("Crucifixion"),Ugolino di Nerio("Virgin and Child With Saints"),Olivuccio di Ciccirello('Madonna of Humility and Fall of Eve")/,Spinello Aretino("Virgin and Child With Angels"),Jaume Ferrar("Annunciation"),and Master of Heilingkreuz("Death of Virgin"),among others.
I then continued to study their enormous collection of Renaissance Paintings and Sculpture.Italian Painters with awe-inspiring paintings included Giovanni Di Paolo,Carlo Crivelli("Saint Nicholas of Bari"),Sandro Botticelli,Maso Da Friano,Paolo Veronese,Lorenzo Lotto, and Fillipino Lippi, among others.I also saw outstanding Northern European Renaissance Paintings by Gertgen Tot Sint Jans,Petrus Christus,Hans Baldung Grien("Mass of Saint Gregory")Konrad Laib,Lucas Cranach the Elder,Laurent Girardin("Trinity"),and Gillis Van Coninxloo.
The Cleveland Museum is free, but donations from the public help this museum maintain its very high standards It is especially important, because of the severity of the Corona Virus currently in Cleveland.

Amazing, takes your breath away. Classy and elegant!

By paver1960268 |

Visit and visit often. It's amazing. No entrance fee except for special events or showings where registration is needed.

Enjoyed Michelangelo exhibit

By Flyerboy172 |

Went to see Michelangelo drawings. Amazing exhibit, well curated. A “must see” exhibit. Afterwards visited some of regular galleries. “Hidden cities” by Liu Wei was another gem. Every time I visit CMA, I am blown away by the collection

One of the better art museums in the USA

By 80237travel |

The Cleveland Museum of Art is one of the country's best art museums.

Visitor hours on Wednesday and Friday are extended to 9 pm, which is great. Hours on other days are a bit limited, especially Saturday. It would be nice if Saturday hours were extended to 7 pm.

Admission is free. Street parking nearby is free.

There's both a casual cafe and a fine dining, formal restaurant. The restaurant is very good, although they only serve brunch on weekends.

Really, no complaints whatsoever. If I had to complain, the signage to the entrance could be better. It's not clear if you're walking up which door to use.

The Cleveland Museum of Art never disappoints! Great art! Fun experience!!

By MidwestKathM |

The Cleveland Museum of Art is such a wonderful museum that we keep an eye on their special exhibitions looking for opportunities to drive 3 hours from our home to see them. In the past several years, we've seen the The Tudors, Giacometti, and Tiffany exhibitions as well as going through the galleries, checking out the sculptures displayed outdoors and the building architecture from the original classical to Breuer and Venoly modern. Most recently we met up with another couple (who drove in 2+ hours from the opposite direction) to see the Degas Laundresses exhibition. And it was worth the drive!! This exhibition gave us the opportunity to see many Degas works on loan from museums in Europe and around the U.S. and elsewhere. Plus works by Degas' contemporaries, including Berthe Morisot, Gustave Caillebotte, Renoir, and Picasso. Truly an eye-opening show providing insights into Degas' body of work beyond his beloved Dancers and Horse Racing works. We also took in some of the small temporary gallery exhibits as well as walked through the European and Modern galleries to see favorite pieces like Monet's Water Lilies and the Abstract Expressionism works and the Art Nouveau pieces. We enjoyed lunch from the museum cafe. Museum admission is free (special exhibitions are ticketed). Parking is available for a fee in the museum garage or free on the street nearby.

Outstanding museum - must see in Cleveland

By Christopher D |

Both the building and the art collection are outstanding. Admission is free and you will see an amazing amount of great art. The building architecture and interior is first rate. Highly recommended.

Something for all ages

By Kelli G |

We loved our visit to the museum. We had teens and younger children with us and they all enjoyed it. My 12 year old said he thought it was going to be boring but, thought it was interesting and enjoyed it very much. We were there for 3 hours but, could have came back and spent another hour. I can’t believe it’s free!!! That is amazing!! The staff were all very helpful and informative.

Best collection and manageable visit.

By keligeng |

Everybody knows that CMA has one of the best collections of classical, asian, and modern art in the nation, but most forget how easy it is to stop in for a brief visit to see something beautiful or disrupting to the daily media and work world we all face. Free admission to all the galleries (excepting only blockbuster special shows) and decent parking only make the accessibility of any part that might be helpfully cognitive dissonant or serendipitous so wonderful. Just a gem to be visited often.

phenomenal & free museum

By MelissaWP |

On a Thursday morning, we spent about 3 hours strolling around this beautiful art museum. We could have spent more time, but we had another place to visit that same day. In 3 hours, we were able to see everything, but not read everything or stay very long soaking in any particular areas or pieces of art due to time constraints. So, I'd say a minimum of 3 hours but maximum of all day. There is no admission, so just grab a map and enjoy your time here. Of course, parking is a cost, though.
Upon arriving, there is a large open space with peaceful music and relaxing/comfy seating spots. I saw one guy on his laptop who I later saw fast asleep. This museum has a huge collection of various art from all over the world, so there is something for everyone here. The glass enclosing some of the items is so clean, there were times I actually thought there was no glass there at all. The only downside is that the current special exhibit, the Medieval Monsters was not all that great and was uninteresting.

IMPRESSIVE collection!

By Allison d |

I was pleasantly surprised by this museum's holdings and enjoyed my visit there immensely! I had cycled to Cleveland along the E&O Towpath from Zoar, Ohio, so really appreciated how many of the "cultural" sites were all in close proximity to each other. Lovely place!

Art Class

By Fae536 |

A fun way to introduce my children to art. Has an interactive area. A nice cafe. Free on Sundays. A lot of interesting pieces from around the world.

World class art museum

By Tim W |

One of the premier art museums in the world! We were able to send 5 hours wandering through the galleries at a leisurely pace. It was not crowded. The light lunch we had in the Provenance Cafe was fresh and quickly prepared. It was a great joy to immerse ourselves in the diverse collection covering all artistic styles, numerous global representations and notable masterpieces. And it's FREE!

One of the best art museums in the United States

By maryhear |

It is consistently rated as one of the best art museums in the country and we could not disagree with that appraisal. We spent three hours in the museum and saw less than half of the objects on display. The museum itself has no admission charge; special exhibitions were available -- some had admission charges, others did not. There was a parking charge, but we couldn't complain when the building itself was free.

Two exhibits that I particularly wanted to see -- "Monet in Focus" and "Inside the Seven-Jeweled Mountain" -- were free, but I would gladly have paid. The museum has an extensive display of medieval armor which should excite anyone like myself interested in medieval history. The art displayed is wide-ranging and provides an excellent capsule overview of art from many cultures and historical periods.

We live seven hours away by car, but are already planning a return trip when we can stay a full day. Even if we spend a full seven hours there, I suspect we will miss some of this museum's treasures!

World Class

By Elfma |

Art lovers will certainly enjoy this user-friendly, world class museum. Large enough to fill a day, diverse enough to satisfy all tastes. Parking on site, nice central courtyard with several dining options.

Amazing, World Class Experience

By Bucky D |

Truly one of the world's great art museums! Plenty of exhibit space with great examples through-out. Many wonderful, one-of-kind works are part of their collection. Pick your time period and you'll find it represented. Great representations of Picasso at different points in his career. The armor room will thrill anyone interested in medieval times. I would have liked to have seen more sculpture.

Free and Great Quality

By jessal113 |

It is a very large museum. One could spend hours carefully combing through it. They have a variety of artifacts from Asian to European to indigenous Americans.

CMO is A-OK!

By OHsoccermom5 |

If you find yourself in need of a budget friendly, yet supremely satisfying, activity, CMO is for you.

Parking for non members ran is $14, but otherwise there wasn't any fee for entry.

We greatly enjoyed the numerous galleries, especially those dedicated to Egyptian, Sumarian, and Inkan cultures.

I did think the prices in the Museum Shop were primarily overpriced, but then again, that's likely part of how they fund the museum.

Tremendous collection of all types of art

By CasinoVacationer |

Plenty of room to move about a various times they have noteworty collection on display.
Go in the Spring and go to the Japanese Garden across the pond = the same cherry trees that are by the tidal basin are there great place for photograps!!

Beautiful Building and Nice Collection

By imissneworleans |

The buildings are beautiful and the collection is nice and well laid out. It was free when I went but I don't know if it's always free. They had a huge special exhibit that was excellent. The gift shop is nice and there is a cafe.

Excellent Museum

By jaseaton |

It’s only just reopened after Covid, but the Cleveland Museum of Art is off to a fast re-start. We spent nearly two hours in the special exhibit of museum art pieces that have been kept in storage for a variety of reasons. It’s a buffet of art from ancient times and all over the world through to the present. As a result, there’s no central theme, but each individual piece is at least distinct and often beautiful, sometimes astonishing. Afterwards, we zeroed in on a permanent gallery of African and Muslim textiles and ceramics....spectacular. This is a world class museum.

Amazing place

By doc832 |

Well the Cleveland museum of art is free to get in first off. special exhibits will cost you some money but it's still very reasonable. They have everything that you could ever want in art and it's very well displayed. They have a parking garage right underneath the museum and a great cafeteria. I've been there for business and social times and never have enough time to see the whole thing. You really need to take it in sections not all in one day.
This is highly highly highly recommended.

Artsy

By anjbee |

We stayed down the street and decided to stop in. Admission is free, parking is 10$. The museum has a few interactive displays and the kids liked those. Easily navigated with maps and apps. There's a small shop and cafeteria. We didn't eat there. You can catch the RTA here too. We weren't brave enough to try that with kids.

a gem!

By ElaineSL |

This is a medium-sized excellent museum, with permanent collection artwork spanning the centuries, and notable special exhibits. Much can be seen in an hour or two, or of course, longer.
They have a very good bookshop, and a cafe with seating in a light-filled courtyard.

Exceptional collection and value

By Cherry_Wonderdog |

The Cleveland Art Museum blew us away. It was an exceptional art museum with a massive collection as one might expect of any world renowned museum. However, unlike most around the world, this one was completely free. Talk about supporting the arts! Thank you benefactors from last century!

Cherry Wonderdog absolutely loved the atrium that welcomed us upon arrival. It was a vast, open and sunny area that set the stage for an undaunting visit to appreciate just the right amount of art to suit our fancy. Again, the fact that there was no admission charge lent itself to visitors – particularly those lucky enough to live in the Cleveland area – seeing whatever sculptures, paintings, lithographs, photography, pottery, etc. that suited their fancy that day. In general, this cuts down on sensory overload and allows for better appreciation of art in a stress-free environment.

One of the exhibits we particularly enjoyed was "Fairy Tales and Fables: Illustration and Storytelling in Art: "Four Tales from 'The Arabian Nights', with super works from Chagall's. I also squatted for several minutes in admiration of "Water Lilies" - Les Nymphéas -- by Claude Monet, from his gardens in Giverny.

It wasn’t too crowded, and getting around between the collections was relatively easy.

Great museum all around.

Do NOT miss!

By Susan M |

My adult daughters and I met in Cleveland for spring break and this was our number one stop. We were fortunate enough to hit the Tudor exhibition (an interest of mine) and thoroughly enjoyed our day. We were in the museum four hours and did not even get to about a third of the collection. We found the maps helpful as we could cross off galleries as we viewed them and not miss areas we definitely wanted to see. The building itself is beautiful, so light and airy. There is a lot of religious art which is another interest of mine and my daughter found plenty to occupy herself as she teaches Ancient Civilizations. You could easily spend two days here. Definitely recommend!

Amazing Museum...

By Jeff |

So many different artists, famous ones too. Picasso! Degas! Monet! Renoir! Van Gogh! We spent two hours there, but could have stayed all day!

Beautiful and free!

By janelord |

Large museum with wonderful offerings in MANY categories. My favorite Renoir is there, a large Monet waterlilies, and a really cool armor collection.

Surprisingly Stunning Museum

By Teri MQ |

Such an impressive museum! We found meter parking on the street and felt save. The enclosed courtyard reminded me of Europe. The cafe was affordable and offered options for various types of eaters. The gift shop was beautiful. We enjoyed the various exhibits, especially the Austrian armory. Appreciated the free entrance.

Fabulous and free

By renorichdiver |

I really didn’t expect much. Was I wrong!
Picassos. Armor. Good food.
Definitely going back.
Very nice facility. Open and airy.

Very Impressive Collection—can’t believe it’s free!

By Liv L |

I visited the CMA with my boyfriend and his dad, a former museum curator himself. We explored the museum over the course of two full day visits. We felt we got a good survey of the collection and we were particularly impressed with the contemporary and modern art, the Japan/Korea gallery, and the Greek and Roman/Byzantine collections. All of the galleries were beautifully designed and overall the captions are informative but not over-interpretive. The special exhibition (Michelangelo studies and drawings) was reasonably priced and lovely. Will definitely return on future trips to Cleveland.

Best Ohio Art Museum

By Gordon S |

Cleveland Museum of Art is an immersive artistic experience with astounding works on display. Their American collection has great works by Bohm, Cox, Wyeth, Wood and Hopper. There’s more with Sloan, Prendergast, Tarbell, Sargent and Chase. German works by Perchstein, Kirchner are solid but they have a fantastic work by Gabrielle Munter (titled Future). French works go beyond the standard Impressionism and have Bonnard, Vuillard and lesser-known masters on display. A giant Rousseau is great. 7 Picasso works hang in chronologic order, spanning more than 40 years and let you really see how the Spaniard evolved.

Madame Lerolle is featured in two paintings, both fantastic. I enjoyed the brightest Odilon Redon flower painting here. Not a typical fan of Georgian-era art, they have a Thomas Lawrence double portrait that is the most beautiful thing you’ll see. Older work by El Greco and Zubaran are large and excellent. Knowing lots of artists, I was still happy to find someone I’d not known before: Gitane Endormie who’s “Sleeping Gypsy” is among the loveliest painting they have.

I wish the gift shop had more postcards of all this art. I would have bought them all.

This is the best museum in the state (and they have some awesome ones with Cincinnati, Columbus, Dayton and Toledo).

Incredible Museum and It's Free

By larry b |

Arriving at the museum, I was able to park in the adjoining parking deck and follow the signs to the entrance. During my visit the main entrance was closed for a renovation but the temporary entrance was easily located. I was greeted upon entering and provided a map and then was asked about what I was interested in viewing. I was then given suggestions of a route to take to view them. The museum is large and would probably take most of a day to get it all in. I spent about three hours there. The rooms are grand and the collections on display were fantastic and well labeled with information. Most of my time was spent in the East and South Galleries which housed works from Renaissance, Baroque, Dutch, American, British, Impressionism among others. Works from Monet, Van Gogh, Degas, Renoir, Eakins, de Flandes, de Boulogne and Poussin among so many others. I did eat at the cafeteria and enjoyed a sandwich in the covered pavilion and visited the gift shop which had books, prints and many other items.

About as Good of an Art Museum You Can Visit in the USA

By Jeremy Z |

This museum was recommended to us by a staff person at our motel. It certainly didn't disappoint! The museum had so many amazing exhibits and historical objects that even though we spent the good part of a day there, we felt we just scratched the surface of what the museum offered. It's really amazing that a place like this is free of charge to visit. Would recommend this place to anyone visiting the Cleveland area as a must see!

Excellent museum!

By Glenncca |

Open for all, free to enter, wonderful park setting. And they have some great art to look at. If you are in Cleveland you should take the time to check it out.

Rivals the best

You simply can’t beat it. The collection is not only deep and varied, but the architecture of the facility is extraordinary. Kudos to the Cleveland community in keeping it free.

Free to the public and wonderful collection

By Hale F |

This is a free collection with a wonderful variety. From the classics it’s a good sampling of my evil impressionist and American art as well as new collections. It’s not crowded and it’s in a wonderful park setting. Do you have to pay for is parking

Glad we came for a visit

By noel17 |

we visited the museum on a beautiful spring day. we able to walk through most of the galleries in a few hours. my favorites were the chinese porcelain collections and the impressionist paintings. after the museum closed, we walking around the Fine Arts Garden.

lots to see for FREE!!

By loveadeal55 |

this was my 2nd visit to the CMOA. the last time 12 years ago. there is now a new building, which is where you enter, and a courtyard with some sculptures and cafe seating. the courtyard is between the new building and the old museum building, and is enclosed. very nice and spacious. this art museum is LARGE. many many many painting, sculptures, ancient artifacts including a roman marble casket, egyptian wood mummy coffin, body armor for soldiers and horses, and lots of carvings made of wood, ivory, bronze, silver, etc. my favorite gallery is the american impressionists with paintings by hassam, tarbell, chase, cassatt. my favorite painting is by john george brown called the boat builder. exquisite. you'd think it was a photo with such fine lines and detail. take your time. theres alot to see. don't miss the george washington painting by charles peale. my wife and i spent 2 1/2 hours, and that was not enough. this place is almost as large as the art institute of chicago. a special exhibit of tiffany stained glass currently, and michaelangelo drawings.

Free admission to a beautiful/interesting museum

By GabrielaSeevetal |

On our drive from Chicago to Niagara, we planned an overnight stay and a visit to this wonderful art museum. We spent four hours in the museum and would have liked to stay longer.
The museum was founded in 1913 and the beautiful building was built in 1916. One enters the building and is enchanted, the columns, the high rooms with the bright stone give a lot of light – perfect and aesthetic. Then the sightseeing marathon began... You can get very close to the paintings. There are no markings that prescribe a distance from the painting, so a very relaxed and accurate viewing is possible. The museum café is recommended, especially nicely you sit in the covered courtyard with lots of light and bamboo plantings.

A blazer or light sweater is recommended in summer, as the air conditioning cools the rooms greatly.

Numerous exhibits with descriptions have been published on the Internet.

The museum has an underground car park for parking. On weekends there are many parking possibilities around the museum.

Opening hours:

Monday: closed
Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday 10 am – 5 pm
Wednesday and Friday: 10am – 9pm

Lots not to see

By E H |

I'll be the first to admit I'm not the art connoisseur but there was just a lot of skip-over garbage here. I appreciated the galleries of fine portraits and landscapes, most with religious themes, but it was just too dark-themed, and not for me. For me, really nothing stood out. I was done in an hour despite almost getting locked in the maze of galleries.

Great art. No admission fee.

By wirttravelers |

Top notch US museum. Admission is free. There is on-site parking in a parking garage for a fee. Highlights for our family were the arms and armor collection, the religious art of the middle ages, and the impressionist era works. There is a Cafe on site as well. Staff was super helpful. Just a great visit overall.

Serene and calming environment

Very relaxing and close to hospital! Great place to relax and decompress especially when you are visiting the area for medical treatment for yourself or family. Beautiful and clean. Great experience! Highly recommend if you have a few hours or even a whole day, there is lots to see.

Hidden Gem

Fabulous Art museum. Very few fuse digital with art, this one does. Well worth a day. I crowded so you can really see those paintings and reflect on them.

One Of The Best

By ZenHealer7 |

It is surprising to see such a good museum in a scruffy, depressed and run down city like Cleveland. It is large and has a little bit of everything without being intimidating and overwhelming like The Met, Louvre, Tate or British Museum. All the galleries are laid out in an organized and easy flowing manner. The building itself looking in from the courtyard, is very striking. And the icing is that it is all free.

What a beautiful museum and setting!

By Kirstin D. |

I love the Cleveland. Wonderful art and the ancient pieces are simply astounding. But so is the modern work, and the Impressionists. The wonderful Monet’s and things are beautifully set. There are many lovely nearby gardens and parks too. And of course yummy restaurants. Just look around, or check back here!

World Class Art in the Heart of Cleveland

By UberTraveler |

Not only is this museum world-class, it is also located in a beautiful spot with many other museums in walking distance. The old building has a newer addition cleverly tucked in with the original facade. One could easily spend an entire day enjoying all the art. Films, classes and a great restaurant are icing on the cake. A must-see while in Cleveland.

Exceptional

By bluetigers |

Must see for art lovers. An impressive collection that feels like you are getting a crash course in art history. Spacious, well curated, arguably the best museum in the United States. Great restaurant within the atrium.

Must Do Excellent Museum

By DeeFry |

Excellent museum that had a fabulous special exhibit: "Takashi Murakami: Stepping on the Tail of a Rainbow." Other galleries at the museum were also terrific. Except for the special exhibit, the museum is free. We didn't have a car since our hotel was within walking distance.

Amazing collection in a beautiful building, with free admission

By Bette C |

The Cleveland Museum of Art is one of the treasures of the community. I have visited a number of times, and could not see the whole thing in one visit. It is a combination of traditional museum space with an amazing atrium, with a broad variety of galleries and exhibits. You pay to park in the garage, and if you are hungry they have a lovely "cafeteria island" style restaurant with delicious and varied menu options. Worth the trip.

Iconic Art Museum in Cleveland

By Texas_artB |

This museum is obviously important in the world of Art History. I was given tickets at work to attend a mixer at the museum on a Friday night. It was really happening! The dance floor was packed! All the beautiful people were dancing and drinking and having fun. We took a break and had a bite to eat at the lovely café and then we went upstairs to see the Art. OMG! All the important Art Works I studied in college in my Art History class were there! It was such a beautiful evening.

A treasure trove for art aficionados and culture buffs alike!

By The Michael Scott Trading Company |

From the moment you enter, you're greeted by an awe-inspiring atrium that sets the tone for the entire visit. The variety of art, from ancient to contemporary, is staggering, and there's something for everyone. The collection of Impressionist paintings, including Monet and Van Gogh, is a highlight that left me in sheer amazement. What sets this museum apart is not just the art on display, but the way it's presented – the curations and the attention to detail are top-notch. It's not just a museum; it's an immersion into the world of art, history, and human creativity. The Cleveland Museum of Art is a must-visit for anyone looking to be inspired and moved by the beauty of human expression.

Whether with a group, couples, family or solo The Cleveland Museum of art will leave you spellbound !!! What a National Treasure

Awesome Art Museum!

By Bruce B |

I went there with a friend who is a fellow artist. We went on a Saturday and entry was free, including to the special exhibition. The special exhibition was comprised of early Christian manuscripts and other works such as sculptures and prints. The museum has an excellent range of art and we didn’t make it all of the way through. After looking at some early German Christian art and Iranian art I gravitated to the modern art galleries. There was a large sun room of Rodin sculptures. Just amazing. And art from all my favorites from Van Gogh to Diebenkorn to Anselm Keifer. They even had Acoma Pottery on display. And a Matisse sculpture and Volcous vase. The gift shops were nice and folks there are friendly and helpful. From the Rodin gallery I spotted an interesting rooftop and photographed it. I later found out it was a Frank Gehry structure. I kicked myself for not walking to it to see the whole thing. The art museum was really the highlight of my trip to Cleveland.

One of the best.

By Lisa S |

This museum came highly recommended by a friend. This was probably one of the best museums I ever been to and I've been in museums all over the world.

Amazing collection of art!

By AngelaMB12 |

I was so expressed with this museum! I've been to a bunch of big city art museums and this was a tops for me. They have a huge collection and wide range of art and artifacts. The 4 buildings are stunning, and the awesome atrium area that connects the buildings is so cool. Staff was friendly and helpful to our group of 12. Make this a must stop while in Cincinnati.

High Caliber, Must Visit

By Philip C |

We’ve been intentionally visiting all of America’s great art museums and must certainly consider the Cleveland Museum in the top tier. It’s permanent collection is varied and well curated with a strong American Art collection. We took a docent highlight tour of “cats and dogs” which was cleverly arranged and presented – wish I could remember the docent’s name as she was excellent. It’s a bit of “one of each” of the masters and contains fewer “masterpieces” than many of America’s finest museums - but it’s overall presentation merits kudos to the Cleveland art community. There was a small but tasty Tiffany exhibit during our visit and, with limited time, we did not take advantage of the Michelangelo special exhibit. There was street parking available but the backside entrance was closed (some simple signage would have saved some confusion!).

Amazing

By Shaun J |

What a treasure! Definitely in the Top 10 US art museums. Unfortunately I ran out of time and probably only saw 1/2 of it. A must see whenever in Cleveland

Holiday concert

By anna m |

I saw four well known singers who sang various types of music. They were accompanied by the Cleveland Orchestra who has a very loyal and dedicated following in Cleveland, Ohio. I hear they were voted as one of the top 5 orchestras in the world at one time. Severance hall is beautiful and has a restaurant on the lower floor.

Cleveland Museum of Art

The very best of the best. One of the very top museums in the world. Plan to spend two days here if you have the time.

Awesome art museum - worth the drive!!

By MidwestKathM |

From the architectural aspects of this museum-- its original classical building to the modern additions--to the collection and on to the special exhibitions, this museum is a must-see site when visiting Cleveland. We've visited on each of our last three visits to this city from our home 4 hours away. The collection includes Tiffany glass, classical sculptures, Impressionist works (including an awesome Water Lilies by Monet), modern art, photography, design, and more. Many special exhibitions are free (as is admission to the Museum); on this latest visit, we enjoyed the Tiffany in Bloom and Proof exhibits. On past visits, we enjoyed free special exhibitions on the Medici Tapestries, Rodin, and William Morris. Past recent ticketed exhibitions included the Jazz Age, Georgia O'Keeffe: Living Modern, and a Yayoi Kusama installation. A visit to see the CMA collection is highly recommended. Watch their website for upcoming exhibitions that pique your interest enough to visit.

Beautiful and full of treasures!

Beauty for the eyes, soul and mind. Highly recommend this museum. So many areas to explore and see. The building itself is a wonder. And so spacious! Not to be missed and it’s free!

A Must Do

By Nancy A |

What a magnificent art museum. There are lots of varied exhibits, you're sure to find something to your liking. Admission is free, but you have to pay to park in their garage.

Amazing Galleries

By mcollazo288 |

Have been to many worldly Art Museums, but this one won! Beautiful layouts in such a wide variety of media and Art. Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, Vincent Van Gogh my favorite artist to Dali. An AFRICA & BYZANTIUM Exhibit that amazed me with all the artifacts never seen a must, amazingly done! There is a small cost but I was delighted to pay for such quality of work. A nice cafe & gift shop. Disability Accessable and great restrooms. You can also walk to other museums and park in area from parking garage where there is also a small charge.

Wonderful Museum!

Great overall atmosphere and presentation of art at this museum. We also went to the Michelangelo special exhibit which was incredible. Would highly recommend!

Magnificent structure and great exhibits.

The perfect way to spend a rainy day. The medieval European art exhibit was awesome, I felt as if I was in a European gallery. So worth the visit!!

Very nice, uncrowded museum with some real gems

By Frank W |

This was a sidelight on a trip to Cleveland to see the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but it was better than the Hall, and in a great setting adjacent to the Botanical Gardens. The museum covered a lot of ground from classical art to the impressionist, but had something for everyone.

Beautiful museum

By Holly |

I'm not knowledgeable about art but I had a nice time visiting this museum. It's a beautiful place and very large - lots of different styles of art to see. I really loved seeing older architecture and carvings and got a real appreciation for the work, talent, and story that went into those things. I have no interest in old paintings of people but I think there's a room for everyone at this museum.

Don’t miss the CMA! Awesome collection!

By Fran R |

CMA astonished us with the depth and breadth of its collection (and we’re from the DC area and travel a lot, so we’ve seen many, many art museums). This one is world-class. We could have spent two full days there, had we had the time. The permanent collection is outstanding (including a divine Tiffany collection), and there were two wonderful special exhibits — one comparing five Monet paintings (two from CMA, three from Paris) and one with illustrations from fairy tales and fables. The building itself is stunning, there’s a fine gift shop, and the staff are so much more knowledgeable than in many museums. They really took the time to help and advise.

We are looking forward to another visit to Cleveland so we can spend more time at CMA. Plan to spend at least a full day,

Excellent exhibition of Beatles and other icons on lower level

By Carina |

Worth a visit- not so keen on the upper levels but lower level was worth the admission alone- Beatles exhibit was the best

Sick museum

By SRA |

Museum was great but I was not allowed to bring in my soda and hamburger. There was also no smoking, shooting, or stabbing allowed which was disappointing. Every single clock on display was set to the wrong time. Fortunately I was with my girlfriend so she was able to cover my eyes whenever there was a painting with another woman's breasts visible. 11/10 would go again.

Fantastic

By Douglas E |

This is one of the nicest museums I have ever visited. The collection is excellent and the building itself is stunning. Well worth a visit.

Great collection, helpful staff

By thayersn |

A worthy collection for a regional museum. Happened to see the Nabis exhibit on its last day, with a very pleasant and well-informed docent introducing it for us. Lots of other worthwhile galleries and pieces.

Don’t miss this museum!

By psorrells |

This was like a trip to a mini British Museum.
Great diverse exhibits. We particularly enjoyed the Tiffany Glass/ lamp exhibit.

A Top Museum of the Northeast

By Joe W |

This museum rivals the Met in NYC only without the hassle of traveling to the big apple. We visited for the first time specifically to see the Michelangelo exhibit and the place and the space was fantastic. The fact that it can have an exhibition of this importance tells you this museum is worth visiting over multiple days (which is what we did). Paintings, drawing, sculpture, and even armor from various eras are on display. Great gift shop too.

Amazing Collection!

By noel1127 |

We spent 4 amazing hours here & definitely didn’t see everything. My favorite part was the American Collection. My husband enjoyed the etchings & the armor. Bonus, it’s free, just pay to park. Beautiful grounds as well. We’ve seen a lot of art museums & this ranks as one of the best.

One of the World's Best

By Ray S |

Amazing. Superlative. The Cleveland Museum of Art offers one of the finest experiences of a museum anywhere in the world. Museum leadership is doing an amazing job of presenting the arts in modern ways, in a virtually unmatched top drawer environment. We flew out from Brooklyn just for the day to experience the museum and were so amazed.

Special Event

By ChaseyK |

We recently attended a special event held at the CMoA and took advantage of being able to stroll through parts of the museum before the event began. The museum often received high accolades and they are all deserved. This isn't a hidden gem, but too often overlooked by the 'locals'.

Great musuem

By Carol M |

The docent tour was fantastic! A very interesting museum where we spent an entire afternoon! The whole museum campus is beautiful.

Michelangelo Exhibit Currently on Display

By Cm K |

What a gem! Who knew that Cleveland had such an impressive collection of fine arts in addition to some interesting architecture around the city!. Rodin, Michelangelo and other masters are prominent. An excellent way to spend the day and well worth your time

Best art museum in the midwest and one of the best in the country! And it is FREE!!

By Susan H |

We love going to the Cleveland Museum of Art! It is filled with masterpieces and lesser known works as well! You can easily get lost in here for a day! And when you get hungry, the cafeteria is darned good, too!

A gem in the midwest

By DaBearsWISC |

This museum punches above it's weight. Because of the historical wealth of Cleveland, it has a collection on par with museums you would see in Boston, Philadelphia, or other much larger, more prominent cities. And it's FREE (except for parking.)

TRue treasure -

The Thinker, King David, Dali, Picasso, Monet and many many more for your viewing pleasure.
Try a snack at the cafeteria - not bad for cafateria food

Permanent Exhibits as good as Special one

By Patricia L |

We visited the Michelangelo exhibit, which was very good. The tickets were available online for $14.00 each. The permanent exhibits cost nothing and are exceptionally well done. There is so much to see that we weren't able to take it all in during the time we had allotted.

World Renowned Art Museum

By Ann |

The Cleveland Art Museum always has interesting exhibits which are well attended (frequently sell out) and appeal to varied tastes in the art world. We attended the Tiffany Glass Exhibit which was spectacular. Admission to the regular art museum exhibits is free. There is a charge for some of the rotating collections.

Most fantastic collection of contemporary artists

By Sbruckie |

I was blown away by the work that this museum has in their collection. The depth of the work was mind blowing. And they just didn’t have one piece by the greatest artists, they had several! From one gallery to the next, it was incredible. Rocco, Picasso, Calder, Pollock, Krasner, too many to mention. We were there for hours, and probably only saw 20% of all the work on display. The atrium you first enter is a massive space the size of a football stadium. This museum is worth a special trip to this historic city. I will return, and devote the appropriate time. Amazing!

Amazing Destination in CLE

Art and History all in one building in Cleveland, Ohio!

By Philip V |

If you love art and history this is the place to visit. Many diverse paintings and sculptures are here. They have a nice medieval exhibit here. It is full of armor and weaponry from the old time period. There is the main first floor and there is a basement below to observe other artifacts. The best part about this place is the free admission. You pay nothing. Outside of the museum there is some nice scenery.

Michaelangelo

By Laurie S |

Cleveland's Art Museum is great! Saw Michaelangelo exhibition great drawings and explains the thought process of his famous paintings! Also other free exhibits worth seeing!

The list of artists represented there is amazing including, Caravaggio, Gainsborough, Lawrence, Constable, Whistler, Goya, El Greco, Thomas Cole, Gilbert Stuart, John Singer Sargent, Charles Wilson Peale, Monet, Courbet, Caillebotte, Gauguin, Van Gogh, Rosseau, Seurat, Pissarro, Matisse, Diego Rivera, Picasso, Braque, Dali, Magritte, Max Ernest, Pollock, Joan Mitchell, Miro, Calder and so many others! A definite half day or longer experience. If visiting Cleveland please stop and admire these wonderful works.

Amazing Art Experience

What a beautiful museum and grounds! See Monet, Degas, Warhol and Picasso for free! An added bargain if you go mid-week and can get metered parking on East Blvd. There were loads of spaces on a Tuesday afternoon in May. Remember to bring quarters.

A visit to the Cleveland Art Museum.

By Татьяна К |

Visited this museum three times! I'm just thrilled! Takashi Murakami's exhibition was taking place, it was unforgettable! Many exhibits are devoted to Christianity.

Must-see!!

By Knicole S |

Oh my god this is the biggest almost beautiful museum! We went for the exhibit from Takashi Murakami. The building is gorgeous, good amenities, parking was too expensive but oh well. Very accessible, lovely art everywhere, the employees were all very kind and knowledgable pertaining to the museum itself but also the special exhibit. If they made that a permanent installation we'd come back very often. As is I'd love to go back and see more from the museum.

Getting some culture

By Yvonne V |

What a suprise! Parking $12.00 but museum entrance was free. You can make a donation if you want. Free tours but you must sign up, very knowledgeable docents, making the experience worth while. A nice mix of art, sculpture, tapestries to satisfy all. Do not miss this!

A great museum

By Fuir |

I work at another art museum, and I have to say I was very impressed by the Cleveland Museum on this, my first visit. Everyone on staff was welcoming, friendly, and went the extra mile for visitors. Some of the collections are superb; I particularly liked their European Baroque (which surprised me with the number of famous paintings,) and medieval and early Renaissance galleries. An added surprise was the depth of their collections of ancient art. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we went back for a second day there, partly so we could participate in the Sunday drawing activity, which was fun. The Michelangelo drawings show is a must-see! Thank you, Cleveland Museum!

Intellectual and fun

By K J |

One of the country's best art museums, although art people will tell you that the Museum lacks a significant modern collection. If you like Egyptian, Greek and Roman, Renaissance, and other world art, it's a must-see attraction. Asian, African, and Islamic art are there too. It's a beautiful building, with a recent expansion that has added to its appeal. They have special exhibitions, a good (and pricey) gift shop, and restaurant.

Breathtaking!

By Grayson S |

Absolutely beautiful! The art is amazing and the place is so well designed. The cafe is a perfect little spot to go to before you leave

Eye-opening art!

By Paul K |

We went to the Cleveland Museum of Art. What a wonderful time. Great works of art. too many great paintings. Wow. We'll be back

Fabulous attraction

By NewYorkWendy |

Great experience. Nancy gave a great tour of Ohio specific artworks. Her enthusiasm knew no bounds. The museum has world class art and a spectacular complex next to other great attractions. Go and spend the day.

One of the best

By elderly traveler |

Many people know the Cleveland Museum of Art collection through its outstanding education program in which experts discuss art with small groups in remote locations. It’s even better to visit in person. The work displayed is very representative and goes beyond the well known Impressionists. Check out the African masks and the art from Mughal India, for example. First class all the way.

You have to love art

By Paula B |

It was a very nice, clean, full museum. There weren't any interaction exhibits. It was pretty boring stop. We are huge art people, so if you go I would recommend you are big art experts.

Cleveland Art Museum

By Frank M |

We went during a rainy day. Got the tickets beforehand and that worked great. the tickets were free, parking was $12. Not bad. unfortunately a lot of stuff on the first level was closed due to COVID, but the upstairs had some really cool stuff. Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Reubens, Dali, A painting from Diego Rivera, Picasso, Max Ernst, Monet's Water Lilly's, and a really cool hall of armor. We left a bit early as we got hungry and the cafe was closed. would love to go back and see the Egyptian exhibit and the Japanese exhibit, hopefully when COVID-19 is not an issue. wear a mask, and they use infrared cameras to take your temperature. great museum and I would recommend to check it out if you like the above works.

WORLD CLASS MUSEUM!

By Peggy R |

This was one of the best museum I have ever been to. So many exhibits, so much to see! Got to see the Black Vanguard exhibit, stunning photography! Food was excellent, gift shop had a great selection, everything about this museum is top notch!

Nice place to spend a day

By Kyle M |

I am not the biggest art fan, but it was certainly a nice place that I did not mind spending half a day there. The Museum was huge and it never felt cramped or too many people in one place. There was a nice diverse art offering.

Well-Curated Museum

Museum in the heart of downtown with a large, well-presented collection. Large atrium that houses live performances. Art collection is impressive, divided into sections by era and source. Very clean and staff was helpful.

The Cleveland Museum of Art is a true treasure. Fabulous collection, flawlessly presented in a beautiful building. This is a Must Do for any local or visitor. Admission is free. There is a cafe on site. An easy bus ride from downtown.

I hate art museums, except for this one. Loved it.!!

By Angus |

I hate all art museums except this one!! Never been a fan of art, or art museums. This is the one exception that proves the rule. It is outstanding, food is excellent, and well worth the drive. Take your time on the outside and entry into this by car. It’s absolutely amazing. Go for a walk around the outside yard as well. Do not miss the lunch. The baking is exceptional and even have fresh sushi. That is top quality. My wife forced me to go, and for the first time in my life I’m really glad I listen to my wife. Don’t miss this one.

Great Day of Art.

By Traveldeb11 |

The Museum has a great collection of art from around the world and various types. The museum is spread out and I never felt “rushed”. I would highly recommend spending a day!

nice collection of modern art

A must see when visiting CLE

By kmzebrowski7 |

This is a gorgeous museum and FREE to the public. They have rotating art exhibits which are really popular. It's a great winter activity when you need something to do inside or take out of town visitors. The property around the museum is also gorgeous to stroll around.

Cleveland art museum. A bit underwhelming

By Michael R |

Some old. Gas a good core of exhibits but is a bit sparse. They try to enhance it with weird exhibits but it just distracts. I would think more classic painters line Panini would attract people and get them coming back.

World Class Art Museum

By applegirl57 |

Only got to spend a little time here, but already am planning to return. An absolutely beautiful building nestled in the heart of the University Circle arts district. This museum is considered a Top 10 museum in the U.S., and for very good reason. Our small group was given a highly informative guided tour by a very knowledgeable docent of the highly-acclaimed Michelangelo exhibit. It was fabulous. So much to see and digest. Very glad we got a chance to visit. Will definitely plan a trip back to Cleveland.

Absolutely stunning

By Mimi T |

Upon entering the museum and walking through the ticketing and coat check area, one could feel they were transported to any of the incredible European museums. This one takes no back seat. As one enters into the main atrium, the immensity and classic design is sure to impress. And thats before you even begin to see the art work and artifacts.Absolutely worth visiting, not once, but many times.

Very nice museum with diverse and large range of artwork. We enjoyed many of the galleries and the armor was quite interesting. We did not visit every gallery but very much enjoyed the Monet

Large lovely museum

By jkzoo |

We went specifically for the tiffany exhibit which was great but we saw many beautiful works of art in the many of the other galleries as well. Looking forward to returning.

In the Top 10

By Ray J |

This is definately among the top 10 in the world. Their fairly recent expansion is stunning and allows for more of the collection to be shown. There is truly something for everyone including cutting edge technology which allows viewers to access their entire collection digitally. Do not miss it if you get the chance.

Free to visit

The Cleveland Museum of Art is a great big-city art museum.

I'm sure many visitors come just to spend a few hours if the weather is bad or they're looking for somewhere with good air conditioning during the hot summer.

Depending on one's interest, you could easily spend 3-4 hours here.

The collection is on the better side of good for those who know art.

If I had a slight complaint it's that some of the galleries and collections don't seem ordered in a logical or even chronological way. For example, religious art from Europe was spread across multiple galleries by period rather than assembled together in one gallery. Also, there wasn't a lot if signage.

The gift shop is decent.

There's a cafe and a more upscale restaurant. The food and prices at both are very reasonable. Unfortunately, the restaurant isn't open for dinner on the nights the museum is open late.

All things considered, I would return.

Always a Great Visit

By gefilte63 |

My wife and I visited during the height of the pandemic. Things had just begun to open up again and we snagged tickets to the Museum. Temperatures taken on the way in, admissions spread out to keep the numbers low, and limits to the number of people allowed in each gallery. Very impressed and felt safe.
All that aside, the Museum's regular collection is amazing: the sculptures, armor, etc. We also caught some great special exhibits: Korean embroidery, contact sheets, Tiffany.
The place just never disappoints.

A beautiful exhibit

By Elizabeth H |

This is a real treasure in Cleveland. Take a day to see it and appreciate the vast number of relics from all eras. A great date spot!

enjoyable visit of wide variety of artworks

By Maureen H |

staff at entrance very helpful in reading outline map; enjoyed Tiffany exhibit near entrance, European artworks fantastic then finished with pleasant lunch in the gallery's cafe. Staff there were also very delightful and interested in our Canadian accent

Great museum with lots to see

By Jordon N |

An impressive collection that includes everything from relics of the ancient world stretching back thousands of years up through to modern art, and so much in between. Their collections are engaging, educational, and inspiring. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the building and grounds are beautiful.

Always an amazing experience - informational and beautiful - food selections and restaurants are great too.

Wonderful display of a high variety of arts from across time and the world

By Kirby Gaal |

There was so much to see, we'll have to return for at least another visit. Visual art from around the world and across time. Furniture, weapons and armor from the past. Insight into the minds of cultures from all of the Americas through Asia, Africa and Europe. I'm sorry it took me this long to return to this gem of Cleveland. And the price is unbeatable-free. Why miss it?

BEAUTIFUL building with much to see

By JazzingJersey |

We stopped here before our drive back to NJ. Large expansive collection of art in a beautiful building ! The admission is free, masks are not mandatory but we wore ours in all public areas. They did have a paid exhibit which we skipped since we were on a schedule to head home. Very impressive.

One of the great museums of America

By Julia L |

The museum has some stunning masterpieces, including an ancient Greek bronze statue by Praxiteles, which is one of the seminal works of Western art. Some of the paintings that I have loved in the past are off view, and I hoped we might see them in a special exhibit on opening the storerooms. However, that exhibit was a disappointment.--the curators had not decided on a point of view, and showed a mishmash of works and commentary. I know they have better stuff in the storerooms!!

A real gem!

By traveling (wo)man |

This museum is quite a gem to find in Cleveland. It houses a medium-size collection, excellently curated , and a digital experience for all of the art—including those pieces not currently on display.

A pleasant afternoon and convenient with abundant paid parking on site.

Such a fun, learning and inspiring space!

By coffeecream215 |

I have always loved the Cleveland Art Museum - but now I love and appreciate it! there's always something new to learn, or some sort of fun activities going on for the whole family, on any given day, and it's always so inspiring - and the cafeteria has REALLY GOOD food! This is one of my sacred inspirational spaces!

The Art Lens App makes the experience even better

By Sean |

Be sure to engage with the Art Lens App whenever possible to enhance your knowledge and museum experience or simply to explore the museum gallery by gallery without traveling in person.

Very cool FREE museum!

By Elizabeth M |

The Cleveland Museum of Art has a wonderful app called ArtLens that you can use to give yourself a really good 'tour' of any work of art. It was great fun to use to augment the written information available. Friends who live in Cleveland took us for an afternoon and we wish we'd had longer. We wish our city had such a 'gift' for visitors!

World Class Art Museum

By MomRocco |

One of our reasons for stopping in Cleveland while on vacation was to visit this fine museum. It was a good decision. It reminds me very much of the Art Institute of Chicago in its breadth and scope and is definitely a world-class institution. We arrived right when the museum opened and spent several hours wandering through the galleries, which were nearly empty. So much art and so little time. Our feet gave out before we had a chance to see everything. I must compliment the curators who thoughtfully provided information about each work and also some context or interesting tidbit of information. My favorite painting was "The Pink Cloud" by Henri-Edmond Cross and included that he was an anarchist, which was an interesting detail. We had lunch at the Provenance Cafe which offered a good selection of food at a decent price. If I get back to Cleveland, I will definitely visit this wonderful museum again.

As good or better than many major city art museums - and FREE; you can even find street parking for evening hours

By scott r |

Can only echo what the many others have said. This is a major museum with collections spanning the gamut. Managed to spend 3+ hours and see it all but knew I would not have the energy for current special exhibit and saved that cost. Africa nd Byzantium - not my area anyway. Most of the major European artists are here 1850-WWII, some really strong Monets. Lots of Renaissance and earlier art as well. Major sections on modern art 1910s-60s, armor gallery, fair amount of decorative arts - world collections - it's just a very rich smorgasbord. You simply cannot be disappointed.

Small museum

By Laura L |

The collection wasn't bad for a smaller museum but is much less of a museum then let's say the Art Institute of Chicago.

Art and food. What's not to love.

By Gail J |

Love going to this museum on a Sunday afternoon for art and lunch. Thanks to a foundation, entrance to this world renown museum is free. Certain exhibits charge. Lunch is served at Provedence cafe and is worth the trip if your not interested in art.

Love this Museum

By Jonna L |

We have gone twice to this museum. It has such a wonderful selection of things to both see and experience. It has become one of our favorite things to do in CLE.

Excellent Museum

By fiamma11 |

This is a wonderful art museum. Their collection of medieval art is quite impressive, but they offer so much more. Highly recommended if in Cleveland.

Special place

By Eforce1962 |

I would recommend a visit. We were fortunate to have a special event (Michael Angelo). While the overall museum is free the special event was $15. My opinion worth every penny. They hand u small devices that explain in detail what you are looking at. Brings the entire exhibit to life. The size of the museum is perfect especially for those not familiar with all arts and all the different styles. It’s has a little of everything in a very digestible fashion. This is more for teenagers who are interested. I would go back.

We visited the International Day and the Michaelangelo tempory exhibit

By jccarmichael2017 |

Excellent!!!!!! The museum is free. $10 for parking for 2 hours in a ramp that leads directly into the museum. Helpful staff guided us to the bathrooms which are only in one area!

Cleveland Museum of Art worth a visit

By Vicki F |

Maybe we were just super ready to go to a museum since we’ve been coupled up in the house so long, but we really enjoyed our visit to the museum! It was FREE. They did a fantastic job screening people going in. There were no crowds and the exhibits were great! We spent a couple of hours there and it was very satisfying! Highly recommend!

A must see

By Nan |

One of the best. Definitely worth a visit if you like to see beautiful art. We stayed around the corner and walked to the museum.

A lot to see, even a Van Gogh!

By Bob Angry |

This museum is built around an older building from 1916. When you first walk into the atrium it is impressive. They are requiring visitors to wear masks. Free!

World-class Art Museum

By Niels |

The CMA is rapidly becoming one of my favorite museums. The original building and the 1970s extension are joined by a beautiful, airy atrium. The breadth and quality of the collection is astonishing and the museum has a strong program of special exhibitions too. The strongest part of the collection are the objects: statues, figures, religious and ceremonial works, ceramic and other vessels, especially for ancient cultures from Mesopotamia, Greece, Rome, Byzantium, Medieval Europe, as well as India, China, Japan, Africa, and Mesoamerica. The paintings, decorative arts, arms and armor are also very fine.

World class museum!

By Brandi K |

We had been told by friends that the museum was world class, and they were not exaggerating. So many beautiful and wonderful items in this collection, and the way everything is laid out is just perfect. The grounds are all stunning and the atrium is fantastic. I wish we had more time to spend there, but we managed 2.5 full hours and am so thankful we did. Parking was $14 for nonmembers.

Great Art Museum

By dawoodwoman |

Visited on a dreary January day. The museum had a very diverse collection of art. Would have loved to have seen a second room dedicated to Impressionism (my personal favorite).

Awesome experience

By Nicole M |

First, give yourself AT LEAST 2-3 hours. My first visit, I didn't give myself enough time and didn't get to fully appreciate everything.
Second time I did.
The Baroque and Impressionists were my personal favorite.
We also had lunch there and the food was delicious!
Its worth the time!!

Nice way to spend a few hours

By exploringnewplaces |

Very nice museum with lots of variety. The price was right (free!). The staff in the gift show were wonderful. Some of the staff in the museum a bit less. All in all a nice experience.

Cleveland Must See

By Coastrunner101 |

This is ranked as one of the top art museums in the U.S. and it most definitely is. Pay parking is most convenient under the museum, and admission to the museum itself is free.

It is well laid out and the permanent collection is unbelievably extensive, with virtually every famous artist in history represented. Expect to spend four to six hours to see everything.

The Provenance Cafe is very nice with outdoor seating in the Atrium.

Amazing works of art, with amazing people teaching about them.

By Christopher |

What a fantastic museum! I genuinely liked getting lost in here, and I do mean lost because there are so many rooms to go through. It’s so easy to loop back around and find things you glossed over.

My favorite part is the people working at the museum. I had several interactions that I enjoyed. I had the absolute luck to overhear a presentation given by staff to a group of Girl Scouts and I learned so much. The lady giving the tour was obviously a pro and I loved hearing what she had to say about the art and how positive she was with the scouts.

By far my favorite interaction was when one of the ladies noticed me sneakily taking a picture of my favorite Marilyn on the Warhol exhibit and she snuck up on me and asked me if that’s what I was doing. I laughed so hard at being caught enjoying the work and had a fantastic conversation with her. That single interaction took my trip from fantastic to unforgettable. My only regret is that I didn’t get her name to properly acknowledge her. I hope someone internally sees this and recognizes who I am talking about though.

Also a beautiful wedding was being setup in the main area. I bet this is an amazing place for an event like that. Congratulations to the happy couple!!

Wonderful museum excellent collection amazing building fabulous Space.

By rbwriter |

We were in Cleveland for a few days and the art museum was on our list but not a priority

we are so glad we found the time to go. It is a fabulous museum with an amazing collection and a beautiful building in which to enjoy the art.
Highly recommended when you were in Cleveland?
I would say it’s a don’t miss.

Cleveland's Gem

By Jeff H |

The Cleveland Museum of Art is a must stop for anyone visiting Cleveland. The permanent collection is fantastic and has some must see works, plus you never know what special exhibits will be on display. Also, the permanent collection is still free (however the museum does accept donations)

Enjoyable visit

By Jackjack706 |

Not being a big art fan, I enjoyed my time here. Place is beautiful aside from the art. There were all sorts of different art for your taste. For being free, it's better than I expected. Though I didn't eat at the Cafe, it looked like it had decent food and good place to sit back and relax before hitting the arts again. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the area to stop by and give it a try. As I didn't spend a whole day here, I parked at the meters on the street. Spent less than 2 hours each day for 2 days.

World Class Museum

By Richard E |

Open to all, free to enter. One of the best museums in the world. State of the Art technology supporting the experience of engaging with one of the world's best art collections exhibiting prints, sculptures, fine world class oil and latex paintings, photography, armor and jewelry. Massive atrium with food court choices including an upscale sit down restaurant lays out the table for a great experience for individuals, families, and groups. Live entertainment and lectures are scheduled regularly for an in depth experience. Outside Wade Oval is a wonder filled stroll in all 4 seasons.

Wonderful building wonderful contents

By Adam D |

Absolutely beautiful space with really gorgeous covered atrium. Very helpful volunteers. Loved the early 20c American and impressionist collections. Babylonian and Egyptian collections small but nicely curated. If I’m allowed a kvetch I thought the abstract expressionist holding might have been more extensive. But an unmissable treat if you are in Cleveland.

Excellent museum

By Jackinbama |

We really enjoyed the Cleveland Museum of Art. Parking for $12 and free entry. Worth a visit for sure.

Free activity in the AC!

By Casey H |

Other than a parking fee ($6) this museum is free to your and is HUGE. Definitely would take more than one trip to see everything. Extensive collections of paintings from the renaissance to present day, also a ton of sculptures and pottery from different parts of the world. There is a cafe inside and a beautiful courtyard to sit in. Only thing I didn't like was that you are not allowed to bring in a water bottle.

Much Less Enjoyable Since Renovation, Not Migraine Friendly

By Viellia |

I just visited the Cleveland Museum of Art for the first time since renovation and I have to say that I enjoyed it much less than my previous visit. The museum felt far less walkable than it did previously and I felt like the organization of artworks had changed considerably. The enormous atrium is not pleasant for someone with a disability that involves mobility and fatigue issues. My previous visit was 10 years ago and at that time I remember it being one of the best museum visits I had ever had. When I visited 10 years ago I went with a boyfriend who was Turkish/Kurdish and clearly foreign and the docents were much more friendly and helpful. They made conversation with us and we enjoyed the visit much more. This time all I got was scolded for standing too near a painting. Maybe because I'm disabled and walk with a cane? I wasn't having any issues until that interaction, but the stress of the rude docent triggered a migraine and I had to sit down for awhile due to the pain and dizziness. (I stood just as close to other paintings and had no issues with anyone.) The arrangement of the collection seems different and I felt like it didn't work as well. The museum is miserably, painfully cold (another migraine trigger for me). The music was too loud and caused problems for my migraine as well.

The museum felt sad and dead. Very uninviting. Perhaps part of that was because we visited during the last two hours of the day on a weekday. But it felt like a mausoleum. There are some lovely pieces in the collection-- a stunning O'Keeffe that I did not remember seeing before and Van Gogh's Plane Trees piece is always a treat. A large somber Rothko that I did not remember either, although it is hard to take in the details of the work because of the way it is lit. With a dark piece like that you really need better lighting to take in the subtleties of Rothko's work.

Postcard selection was awful. I usually like to take a couple postcards to give friends, but there were no postcards of the most beautiful pieces-- none of the Van Gogh, O'Keeffe, Monet, Picasso, Cezanne, or a single Impressionist or Modernist. I was glad I took photographs, but I had wanted some small gifts to give.

I am glad the museum is free at least, but I am glad I did not make the long trip to Cleveland solely to visit the artworks (which I had considered doing.) I was there for a medical appointment. The visit made me want to spend more time in galleries and my local art museum, which feel more lively and interactive. As an artist, this visit made me feel particularly sad. I think we all want our art to find some acclaim, but I would rather it found love than this, where it felt as though the art had been buried alive.

Outstanding Recent Visit

By Tom B |

Simply put the Cleveland Museum of Art is one of our nation's best art museums, recognized internationally, and personally one of the most enjoyable art museums to visit. True to its 1916 opening dedication of "for the benefit of all people, forever" remains admission free except for the occasional special exhibition or event.

Had the recent opportunity to travel from Columbus with a small group to see the CMA's current exhibition, “Michelangelo Mind of the Master.” The exhibition of about two dozen preparatory drawings are presented to allow for unusually close viewing and creatively displayed to provide an understanding of the drawings historical context and Michelangelo's approach to his artistic genius. Our exhibition visit was greatly enhanced by a knowledgeable and experienced docent who guided us through the works before exploring on our own. This rare exhibition ends January 5 where it will travel to its only other U.S. viewing at the Getty in LA before returning to the permanent collection of the Teylers Museum in the Netherlands.

Beautiful Museum

By Max D |

This is a beautiful art museum which consists of two main buildings with two floors. It's quite big so plan on spending at least half a day here. I pretty much spent entire day here and good thing my other attraction open till late.

I went first to far most buidling which is mostly classical paintings and sculptures. I took a break at middle atrium which is this beautiful open space with a glass roof. I usually avoid eating at museums because food not that great but I need energy to continue to next building which houses the contempory art like Picasso and Monet. There is also a special Takashi exhibit at basement level. Again, very large museum.

So their double smash cheese burger looks amazing and so I got that and was not disappointed. One of best burgers I ever eaten. So good.

In all, a great time at their art museum. And total cost of admission? Free. Well, except for Takashi exhibit which I guess was worth the cost.

Good Membership

By AdorableK |

I have the membership. I think it is a good deal for cheaper parking deck prices and money off at the restaurant. It's a large museum and it took me a few visits to see everything.

A Great Way to Spend an Afternoon

By Epps Adventures |

With free entry, how can you go wrong!? The building is stunning, and the area this museum is in is worth the drive from Downtown, alone. The exhibits were also fantastic. The collection at this art museum is absolutely worth seeing. It is incredibly well done.

Should note, entry to the museum is free, parking, however, is not. We paid $14 to park. Not terrible, but... just an FYI.

Wish we had more time

By wander1 |

We only had a short time so we concentrated on the Giacometti exhibit, which is fascinating. It's also the only exhibit we had to pay for but the price is modest. We could easily have spent a whole day. There's a good variety of exhibits for everyone. The buildings and grounds are lovely as well.

the best of exhibits - quality!

By char fowler |

they have special exhibitions - I saw Michealangelo drawings that are hardly seen - amazing. Their armor court is one of the best in the country. their cafe/restaurant option is great!

Wondrous collection with a special show about Michelangelo

By KentStaters |

Stupendous. The building is impressive, the artworks thoughtfully curated. The gift shop offered all one could desire.

Excellent place to visit

By debbielF6918OE |

The museum has so many wonderful paintings and sculptures by extremely famous artists and those who are new to the profession. We are regular visitors to the art Institute in Chicago and we feel this museum ranks up there with the Art Institute.

better than expected

By Lynda T |

Great collection and interesting exhibits. Nice variety of art, including a representative impressionism collection. Beautiful gallery. I also enjoyed French and English decorative arts collection. The museum app worked well once we asked how to use it - not intuitive.

Great Museum!

By HelvetiaCH |

Visited with my brothers this week and we spent hours there, including the Michelangelo exhibit. We were there a few years ago and still love it. The atrium is outstanding and we enjoyed hearing the music even as we ate our lunch.

Really good art museum - and free!

By Neil D |

I was impressed with art collections and curation. Most pieces had an information placard to help you understand the artist and piece. Spacious, well-presented displays. The atrium is spacious, but a bit like an airport check in area- needs more art in it. Basic admission is free - this is how all museums and art galleries should be, so that everyone is welcome to view great works of art. Definitely worth a visit.

A must-see museum

By KJCM610 |

This museum was recommended by a friend as a way to fill some extra time during a trip to Cleveland. We were completely blown away and wished we'd had more than the 5-6 hours we spent there. We've been lucky enough to go to major museums in the US and Europe and this museum ranks at or near the top of our list of favorites. The museum itself is very bright and airy; the exhibits are well curated and clean, allowing patrons to enjoy their true colors. While their collection may not be huge, it covers every area from antiquity to modern and contains works by many significant artists, as well as visiting exhibits. We arrived during a temporary exhibit of rare Michelangelo sketches but the permanent collection is well worth the visit.

Nice museum in Cleveland

By Grace Fu |

It is a good place for all age groups. The normal exhibition are free and open to public. And there are also special one in the basement, the ticket is 8 dollars with a student ID.
It has so many collections in different cultures, I like it so far. And I bought a postcard in the gift shop. They also give me a mask for free.

World class museum

By Travelin-Light-PA |

This is a world class museum with admission by donation. Great masterpieces. Excellent cafe with low prices. I especially appreciated the security guards/docents. Without exception they were friendly, offered suggestions, answered questions, and made the overall experience pleasurable.

Wonderful exhibits for artists from the Impressionist era

By GreggMS |

We visited this museum for the first time and it was an excellent visual experience. They have paintings from Van Gogh, Renoir, Monet, Dali, Degas, Matisse, Pissaro, Picasso and O'Keeffe. If you love art from the Impressionist era, you will love this place. Plenty of other exhibits for all tastes.

Great time to visit is early October during the week when there are no crowds. Plenty of restrooms and drinking fountains. Good gift shop and cafe. Helpful, courteous staff. Parking is also good and is right next to the museum.

Well worth a visit

By NBentley2014 |

Spent a great few hours in the Cleveland Museum of Art. Entry and coat check are free (though expect to pay at least $10 for parking, depending on when you arrive). The collection is amazing and features paintings by Cezanne, Manet, Monet, Matisse, Picasso, Van Gogh, Renoir and so many other renowned artists. There’s beautiful decorative art, textiles and pieces from Latin America, Africa, China, Korea, Japan, India and more spanning thousands of years. There was a Tiffany exhibit on during my visit and the beauty of Tiffany’s stained glass windows took my breath away. The series of elaborate rawhide sculptures by Liu Wei fascinated me. There’s an interactive section designed to appeal to younger visitors, too. You can’t miss the courtyard that forms the heart of the museum - it is a lovely place to take a break.

One of the finest museums in the country. I've been a member for years, love spending time there. The room with the impressionist paintings is super.

Free Admission and a Wide Variety of Art

By Angelo S |

With parking relatively inexpensive and free admission, this is a must-go when in Cleveland. Galleries on two floors with the most striking being the gallery of tapestries and the medieval armor gallery that is just a sight to behold. Quite a few modern and impressionist paintings, and a number of very interesting Picasso pieces. Some are very recognizable, some just very interesting.

There is also a good Egyptian gallery and some a small Tiffany display.

Impressive pieces of art within a welcoming environment

By MarcoSieber |

I've been to some nice museums in the US and Europe and despite the positive reviews I had my reservations but the Cleveland Museum of Art exceeded my expectations. I took my 11 year old daughter and she really enjoyed it as well. The variety and quality of art and displays was impressive. The modern feel to the building was a big plus as was the nice restaurant with a sushi station and other high quality meals. Congrats to the donors and whoever maintains this free entry museum.

Can’t say enough positive things about this museum

By N0rmalee |

Fantastic large museum in 2 buildings, be prepared to do a lot of walking! Works by Manet, Cassatt, Van Gogh, Degas, O’Keefe, Warhol, Picasso, De Goya, it’s amazing! Large gift shop. The real Rodin The Thinker that was damaged by activists decades ago and also the copy made. We are old enough to associate The Thinker with the Dobie Gillis show! Also Faberge, Tiffany, armor, furniture, lots of Asian artworks. And it’s free! We prepaid for parking in the garage but being a Sunday it was almost empty when we arrived just before 10 am when they open.

Who would have thought?

By Peggy T |

The Cleveland Museum of Art had been on my radar since my late mother-in-law had raved about it. She's been to a lot of museums all over the world so I took notice.
Upon reflection, I realize that it has a lot of very good pieces because of the wealth created in that area during the steel and mining boom in the early 20th century. All that money bought some nice pieces and I suspect an endowment allows for continual improvements and upgrades. Plus, it's FREE! An atrium connects the old part of the museum to the new sections and is a inviting space. When I was there, I heard African music along the lines of King Sunny Ade, from speakers arranged in a circle. African textiles completed the scene.
There was a special Michelangelo Exhibit going which was $15 and comes with an audio guide. The exhibit was very well-curated and worth going to.
The cafe was very affordable by bay area standards and tasty, too!

Beautiful Building to House Beautiful Art

Amazing museum!! A must for out of towners!! The building itself is beautiful. I have never been to a bad program here. If you can get in on any of their parties, go for it!

Something for Everyone and all Ages

By SKClev |

Cleveland has an incredible collection that has something for everyone. They did a wonderful job of combining the old building with the new. The food court is excellent too. The attached parking garage makes it easy to get in and out without a coat. There is a coat check available if needed.

Must see in Columbus.

By Luke S |

I loved it, it has such beautiful interesting art so smartly placed. And a very unique building with a lot of things to do and look at for anybody. I loved all the writings for each room.

Great Art.

By aircathy |

Amazing building with a wonderful collection of art. It had a exhibit on "Tiffany in Bloom" with several stained glass lamps the day I went. Very beautiful collection. The museum also has a ArtLen Wall which allows you to explore the collection in a snapshot and identify pieces you don't want to miss. Easy to map the route you want to take. Very innovative. Don't miss the Armor Court which is fascinating. The museum store has a wonderful book selection. Very worthwhile museum. I stayed all day and probably could have used two days.
The park out front is also a beautiful place to take a break and relax a bit.

Artwork and ambiance

By Anna S |

Even during COVID, many of their exhibits are open and they’re still bringing new ones in. If you’ve been to Cleveland and haven’t been here, I really don’t know what to tell you except visit again and come on by!

I remember fondly school field trips checking out the armor room but as an adult, I’ve come to appreciate it for the cultural exhibits, seasonal decor, and sense of peace you get as you walk through, taking enjoyment from someone else’s pride and joy!

Strong Reminder 50 + Years later

By Patty B |

We did not go into the museum. What we did do was drive around the beautiful area and stop to see The Thinker. I remember when the horrible event happened back in 1970. We stood and looked at this spectcular sculpture, and although damaged it still is beautiful.

I am so glad it was not removed. It is a painful reminder of the tumultuous 70's which we are sadly reliving 50 + years later. Still standing !!!

Great time

By Kate G |

We had a great time visiting the museum. We did only the free side and we were there for a few hours. This place is enormous and you could easily spend an entire day there if you bought tickets for the other exhibits. If we didn't have plans directly after the museum I would have purchased tickets for the other parts. I would love to come back.

A great low cost option

By Jake Y |

A great low cost option to enjoy some of the world’s finest art. There were many pieces there that were really intriguing to me.

Don’t bring nail scissors, the museum is free and worth a visit! I would rated at the top of any Cleveland to do list

By soloutre |

We visited this area, and decided to go to the art museum. It was a good choice. It was free. It had a beautiful atrium with a coffee shop where we had snacks and drinks. I accidentally ordered a turkey sandwich with Swiss but I’m a vegetarian. My mom ate it and thought it was very good. The server made me a cappuccino with a double espresso and Oatmeal -very fun. My husband had a craft beer which I think he liked. Chicken dumplings and sushi also. he really liked it. We shopped in the gift shop, but it wasn’t that good. Very expensive. We visited the water lilies, as well as a small, but very beautiful Tiffany’s glass lamp collection. The lamps were designed by a female designer which was neat. We took a quick trip out the back into the sculpture garden, and saw Le penseur. I have heard that his art museum is highly rated because of the breath of their collection. I myself am not that interested in art museums, but really enjoyed the visit. My husband said he could’ve spent the whole day there. Good accommodations for those who did not wanna walk around. Parking is underground which is annoying. Also, they have metal detectors. They searched my purse and tried to take away my nail scissors. Which was distressing.

World class museum

Comprehensive, wide-ranging collection of art from across the world that is well presented. I live in London, U.K. and have access to many lovely museums in my city. But this Cleveland museum is a gem and tops my list of favourites. Not crowded, many masterpieces on display, pleasant dining facilities, special exhibits, tempting gift shop.

CMA well worth the visit and compares favorably with the Art Institute of Chicago and Met.

By Jeffrey W |

CMA is outstanding and well worth the visit. The collections are superb and building architecture outstanding. For those not from Cleveland, the museum is located in beautiful park like museum campus adjacent to Case Western Reserve University. The museum docents we’re very polite and helpful. While not as large as the Met or Art Institute of Chicago, I highly recommend. The collection is robust without being overwhelming and perfect for a several hour visit (or longer). This is a highly desirable alternative to its larger, less friendly and more crowded bigger city comparable museums.

must visit for art lovers visiting Cleveland

By AjayCha |

what a amazing surprise!! Staff was very well organized, following all the safety protocols! Not very crowded which made it perfect! Very good collection. I was not expecting many impressionists but although tucked away in a room not easy to get to - they have a great collection. Maybe the room is tucked away by design because it made us go through many parts of the museum which we may otherwise have quickly walked by without paying attention!! The ARTLENS is also an amazing app - highly recommended. we are continuing to experience the museum after having returned by using artlens. Also the museums if FREE!!

We spent about 2 to 3 hours and barely covered 30%.

Perhaps the greatest museum value anywhere in the world

By CANDVD |

We were blown away by the quality of this museum. I’ve been to large museums in many countries on 3 continents. The Cleveland Museum of Art is truly world class. And it’s free for the main areas. Great use of technology and an awesome open area between the halls. You need at least 2 hours for a quick walk and view, probably need 3 hours or perhaps more to grab a snack or beverage and enjoy the architecture as a nice break. And to be clear, I’m not a big art guy - just enjoy a nice stroll though a major art museum once in a while. We found street parking near the south entrance was easy to find and cost $0.75 in coin per hour.

Interactive options

By Cathy G |

This is an outstanding museum among a city that has over 100 museums within a 25 mile radius. The first floor offers tons of interactive stations that will enthrall all ages. The galleries are laid out thoughtfully. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. We spent three hours and could easily have spent another two hours, but other museums were calling our names.

what a surprise

on of the best museum experiences we've ever had. free of charge, wonderful trained staff, great pieces - a wonderful sight

Way to GO Cleveland!!

By Brian K |

I'm from Cleveland, but this was the first time I have been to our Art Museum. I was totally impressed. I'm very proud of Cleveland for what they have built with this museum. World Class. I'm not a huge art fan, but loved this place!! The only thing I will have to say is, No matter what ANYONE says, a blank canvas or an electrical cord coming out of a wall to a hanging light IS NOT ART!! It's an insult to actual talented artists!! Besides that, I will now recommend it to any visitor to our Fine City!!

A world-class art museum with tremendous curated exhibitions.

By MichaelVA22304 |

Cleveland Museum of Art has been a go-to place since the early 1970's when I was attending Case Western Reserve University. I take in the special exhibits and visit the galleries multiple times a year. I highly recommend a visit to this budget friendly venue.

This art museum proves" CLEVELAND ROCKS!"

By Tia B |

Since childhood, I have heard what a wonderful museum this is in Cleveland, Ohio. It definitely lived up to its expectations. The museum is very large and is located at University Circle in Cleveland , Ohio. The museum is free to tour but if you park in the adjacent parking garage , there is a fee. The museum has several floors and sections. It features art from various countries and the U S. Art includes painting, sculptures, pottery, etc. They are unique and nicely arranged. There are numerous benches to sit on as well as a cafe if you chose to eat there. There is a large but pricy gift shop. Staff is friendly and museum is clean. The art work displayed there is fabulous. ' We were there over 4 hours and didnt see everything which would take you all day if you did. Would highly recommend this museum to any art or history lover.

CMA is full of great works of art old and contemporary.

By Coco's Beach House |

Take a happy hour Mixer break at the museum and enjoy some classic art while sipping a red wine. Or join the artsy mayhem of some contemporary music on the patio during the summer. See web site for details

Great museum

By eamorgan |

What a wonderful museum! The galleries are not overly huge so that you are exhausted by the end of the excursion. I am a huge fan of contemporary art and when I went there was a terrific exhibit on contemporary African art. So worth the price of admission. It is easy to get around in and there is a wonderful cafe within the atrium and a terrific museum shop-I found birthday presents there. Highly recommended!

Pleasantly surprised

By Rudolph W |

Very nice museum with awesome exhibits. Not too crowded and photo exhibit was really interesting. COVD19 safety was practiced and gift shop was also a nice touch after the museum tour.

What a wonderful treat to see Michelangelo's few surviving sketchs/drawing with those of his contemporaries. The Museum provides magnifying glasses to study each stroke of his black charcoal or red crayon stroke. A must see.

Underrated and amazing

By Evilninja253 |

This museum is an absolute must when in Cleveland. Their collection ranges from ancient Sumerian/Mesopotamian art all the way to contemporary pieces. These are thousand year relics we're talking about, and unlike other museums, you can get up as close to the art as you want(!), without touching it of course, no barriers or anything.

And that's not all, the museum also features works from world-renowned artists -- Monet, Picasso, Van Gogh, among others. We went on a Friday and there was basically no one. You could walk up to the piece, stare at it, and think about it, for as long as you wanted, without blocking or being bothered by anyone. At no other museum have I been afforded such an intimate and close connection with the art.

Plus, the facilities are tip-top, state of the art. They've got their own app that you can use to connect with for their interactive exhibits. And they've got explanatory audio for select pieces that you can listen to in the app.

Oh, and the kicker. The museum is completely free. For the unbeatable price of 0 American dollars, this place is truly a gem.

Don't miss this wonderful venue

By mvidro |

This fine museum (free admission, donations welcome) had been on my list for years so I was happy to finally visit. We enjoyed the Renaissance galleries (particularly Caravaggio's “Crucifixion of St. Andrew”) and the small but splendid Himalayan collection (about 40 pieces, largely sculpture). Despite warnings that Cleveland was one of the most dangerous cities in the country, we walked from our hotel, seeing nothing untoward. Additionally, we had a good lunch in the on-site cafeteria (I had the equivalent of a brick oven baked pizza). Don't miss this wonderful venue.

Allow plenty of time for your visit

By Citallwic |

CJ and I visited this museum for the specific purpose of viewing Andy Warhol's iconic Diptych silkscreen painting of Marilyn Monroe ("Marilyn x 100"). That we did, but boy, we should have planned for a much longer tour of this marvelous museum. Whether you love art or just appreciate it, you should consider this a Must Visit attraction. I still can't believe they don't charge admission! Consider leaving a donation of at least a few bucks.

BTW: You can't enter by the south portal, but you can exit that way. The reason you should do that is so you can see the sculpture of Rodin's "The Thinker." It is one of only ten castings of The Thinker that Rodin personally supervised, and this famously vandalized one is unique.

See the Tiffany, and channel Cole Porter

By David K |

There appears to be be a great show on Michelangelo, but we didn’t go because the baby might not sleep. We did, however, see the Tiffany. Not to be missed, even if if you have big issues with luxury artists. There’s enough lamps to understand why the Fuss, a magnificent window, and (my favorites) a flute and (especially) a flower or two. Where are you Reno Sweeney?

Make sure you purchase tickets well in advance!

By Sara |

I went to visit this museum on July 2, 2023, for the first time and I left after a few minutes because the woman at the ticket counter said that the free tickets for the day have been sold out. I left the museum very disappointed.

I thought that entrance to the Cleveland Museum of Art was for free and that no tickets were not required for entry unless that there were special events and exhibits for the day that people wanted to go to.

It is my fault that I didn’t read the signs outside, but I didn’t see anything on their website about “purchasing” a ticket in advance in order to get in for free (Also, I do not live in the Cleveland area).

On the brighter side, the front entrance and the lobby inside had a lot of information about the exhibits and what is coming up next, and the staff was nice and friendly.

Great collection, wonderful docents

By Dana D |

This fine museum has the only Caravaggio altarpiece in North America, in addition to a world class selection of art. What made it exceptional were three volunteers who not only answered our questions but also guided us to works we would have otherwise overlooked.
Ask to see the sculpture of the Crucifixion carved from a single elephant tusk -- astounding.

World class and free

By Tom K |

We have been members for over a decade and enjoyed every minute of it. The special exhibits more than pay for the membership fees.

Magnificent

By EllenChr |

Such a large museum and it’s all free (except the special exhibitions). So even though youhave to pay for parking, this is a good deal for artlovers. You will easily spend 2 hours or more. There’s so much to see.

Stunning displays

By Shala |

This was a visit well worth the time spent. Especially remarkable was the Tiffany exhibit and it is definitely a must see.
Overall, the building is beautifully fit together, melding the early 20th architecture with the expansive more contemporary areas. Though we were not there to attend any special programs, when next in Cleveland we will definitely revisit. It takes more than a day!

GREAT museum in a gorgeous area.

By Sandtom |

The drive through the park to the museum was a lovely experience in itself. I was enthusiastically greeted by a young man who gave me a map, then helpfully guided me through it after asking what interested me most.

The museum contains some spectacular art, from sarcophagi to minute pieces of jewelry to Manet's. It is beautifully and interestingly laid out with great educational pieces beside each piece. I only spent 2 hours there, but highly recommend you allow at least three.

I would add some photos of what to me were key pieces, but all 36 of them were wiped off my phone!

The cafe offers freshly made sushi, a hot food bar with items that reflect current exhibitions, and ready-made salads and sandwiches at reasonable prices.

Beautiful museum with a great restaurant.

By Deirdre H |

I was there for an event so did not actually see the exhibits but would like to comment on the excellent staff and the restaurant. They have a varied menu with excellent quality food. Would highly recommend having a meal there.

Better than MET in NYC

By travellintheusa |

I swear this museum was better than the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Very well laid out with interesting architecture. Art spanning from ancient Egypt to modern. Well designed so we think we saw everything !! amazing "Knights in Shining Armor" and tons of Old European Masters. Very enjoyable afternoon !!

My Personal Sanctuary During College

By Adrian IW Bosela |

I can't stress enough how amazing this place is and I don't want to write for five hours, because I really could write an essay on why CMA helped me get through Case Western. Its like a free Smithsonian. Mind blowing. Could talk for hours about the impact this art museum had on my life and my mind. Let's just saying, its amazing and everyone should go as often as they can, because each wing deserves an hour or three. You could spend a week here easily. Wish I could live inside forever like From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. If I had one wish it would be that I could stay the night like Ben Stiller and everything would come alive like Night at The Museum.

Marilyn!!

By jim4900R |

We went mainly to see Andy Worhols, Marylin and were not disappointed. Was very impressed with the Thinker out front who had been bombed and is left damaged. Free to boot.

Hidden gem! And free to boot!

By Lynn S |

This was an unplanned stop to fill some time while we were in Cleveland but so glad we went here! Who would have thought Cleveland would have a world class art museum? The museum has a lot of exhibits and some very famous painters' works of art. We didn't have time to see it all, but what we did see was great. I would put this art museum on part with any NYC art museum as far as quality and presentation. And it doesn't cost anything to see which makes it a real hidden gem and value. If you're in Cleveland, you should think about a stop here.

Amazing place; must visit

By SouthwoodTruck |

This place is a must visit. Situated in a very nice area of the city and well maintained gardens. The permanent exhibits were amazing and worth spending time. There works of art from the masters, and those were plentiful. We visited most of it but didn’t have time to go through the entire museum; wish we did. The cafeteria was also very good. The experience here was a five star one. Well done Cleveland! Highly recommend!

Something for Everyone

By ARTJPL |

Excellent Cleveland attraction with something for everyone: paintings, sculptures, beautiful furniture, archeology artifacts, Faberge, and Louis Comfort Tiffany. Cafe inside the courtyard to rest and recharge if attempting to visit the entire museum in one visit. As it is free, if you do become museum’d out, also possible to split your visit across multiple days. Cleveland Botanical Gardens is also within walking distance so possible to park once and visit both.

Great exhibits, quite crowded.

By Jason V |

Museum was extremely well curated, it was nicely split into sections with a nice glass walkway that takes you between sections. If you plan to go then plan more time then you expect, the exhibits are very informative and the layout can be a bit confusing which can cause much longer trips then expected. The museum is generally quite crowded even on weekdays, so plan to go early!

Cleveland Museum of Art

By BareboatSailor |

Internationally renowned for its substantial holdings of Asian and Egyptian art, the museum houses a diverse permanent collection of more than 61,000 works of art from around the world.
Admission is free!
Many special events and exhibitions are scheduled so check the calendar. A beautiful historic facility with a massive atrium, Two great restaurants, full liquor service bar and a parking garage.
Located in the beautiful University Circle area with many museums, parks, University Hospitals and educational institutions. Great area to walk around!

Not What You May Think..

By William the Critic |

I mean...if you're like me you're thinking, "Art? Nah. I'm not going to some stuffy museum to stare at pictures on a wall and pretend to find some deeper meaning in them after hours of staring."
Let me tell you, we entered with 4 kids, 10yo and younger (yeah big family..). And we had a blast! Next time we will know better certain exhibits to avoid as they are boring for the kiddos, but overall there was so much to see even the kids were interested 80% of the time! And for FREE admission, I mean it's a no brainer when visiting Cleveland. Pairs nicely with a visit to the West Side Market for a fun family weekend getaway!

If you like:
-history
-fun atmospheres
-discovering new things
-free fun in the big city

GO!

So much to see so little time

By Customer |

The Cleveland museum of art is a must destination for anyone visiting Cleveland. It is free, however, because parking is an issue the museum has its own parking. Please be sure to arrive early to get a parking spot. Plan your visit, since the museum is so vast, it pays to select what you want to see. Look out for any special exhibits, usually those are not free but they are price nicely. You can find anything from paintings to sculptures, to pottery, mostly great masters of the arts.

A good art museum.

By Malcolm |

A very nice museum of arts with lots of different galeries of painters and other. You have to have few hours to see everthing. Nice cafe.

A Beautiful Fall Afternoon at the Cleveland Museum of Art

By Yuen F |

My friend and I took our kids to do a college visit at the Case Western Reserve University and had a free afternoon and decided to stop by the Museum of Art. The location was just beautiful and it had a special Michelangelo Exhibit on his sketches. The exhibit was wonderful and with the payment to the exhibit you also get free audio which was nicely done and very informative. The museum itself was great with a wide variety of exhibits that are free, but the atrium at the center of the museum was just amazing. There are bean bags for people to sit and rest on with music piped into the area. There are no entrance fee to the museum, we just paid for the special Michelangelo Exhibit. All in all, we had a fabulous time, including the teenagers and would definitely recommend the museum to all.

A Priceless Collection with Free Admission

By Mark Mendes |

One of the world’s great museums. Endowed with a tremendous fortune by the titans of industrial Cleveland, the Cleveland Museum of Art was able to buy priceless works of art in 1916 that are simply not available today.

That endowment also provides for free admission for “all the people forever” so even if you only have an hour, you can make a quick visit that will brighten your day.

It’s also first major museum to make its entire collection of over 60,000 objects available digitally with open access, including for commercial purposes. So if you see something you like there is a digital image available somewhere for your use.

Cleveland gem

By Marie N |

Visited to see the “Tudor” exhibition - excellently curated exhibit in a wonderful venue. Whole collection is extensive, but museum as a whole feels intimate and doable for a day visit. Docents are helpful and personable. Worth the trip from Chicago. Drive through the heritage park in front of the museum very nice.

Wonderful art museum.

By monetCincinnati |

Our visit was short, but we plan to return. Mainly focused on 19th century to the present painting collection.

Excellent Museum

By Tom O |

Excellent museum. Appears to be very well funded, superb public spaces and displays. Lots of attentive staff. The building alone is worth visiting. Art displays are well lit, displayed with lots of open space. World-class.

Oh my!

By Linda G |

Wow! A world class art museum! Dont miss it. A truly spectacular piece of art in Cleveland. What a wonderfully relaxing day!

Excellent

By Bob G |

Just a fabulous museum. Not what you'd expect in a smaller city like Cleveland. You would expect to find this in a much larger city.

Beautiful Museum, Wonderful Collection

By Mary Ann C |

Spent 3 hours and we wished we had more time. What a beautiful museum and wonderful display of artworks. Benches here and there so you can take a break and yet enjoy the artworks. Museum staff was very helpful in directing us to finding Degas and Monet. If your ever in Cleveland, make this one of your stops.

Great art museum

By Thomas L |

We thoroughly enjoyed this art museum. Fantastic exhibits from ancient to modern and East to West. There is something here for any art and/or history enthusiast. The architecture and ambiance are excellent as well. Highly recommend!

Something for everyone here

By lindasun |

Gorgeous and large museum with something for everyone from ancient Himalayan to contemporary. The mid 19th to 21st century is especially interesting, including a collection of Rodins. Amazing it's free. What is most appreciated is explanatory signage with nearly everything. Museums are tiring, so take a break after a few hours and come back to get in more. Could easily visit it multiple times to enjoy most of it.

Great place but needs more signposting

By PennyWalters |

This museum needs more signposting at the back entrance. Great exhibits but the theming was difficult to follow. Plenty of bathrooms. Free entry but very over priced cafe and souvenir shop. Mix of friendly or patronising staff. Pretty lake view outside.

Best Art Museum East of the Allegheny

By Monica Ann |

I've been a volunteer at the CMA for more than 15 years and it's one of the best places in the world to be. The CMA is rated #2 in the nation second only to the NY Met and it recently went through a multimillion dollar renovation where the new spaces are stunning. You'll enjoy Rodin, Tiffany, William H. Johnson, Asian collection and the crown jewel Knight collection with much much more. Best of all it's free - one of the few major museums still so in the nation.

Michelangelo Show

By Sue D |

We come to the museum regularly and found this latest exhibit very educational. I knew very little about Michelangelo. It took us about an hour....and Wednesday night is less crowded....enabling us to wander into our favorite galleries as well.

Amazing collection

By HubbellGardiner |

Cleveland is a tad depressing, but the museum is amazing. If there’s an artist that you love from the last 300 years, you will probably find them here. The people who work there are exceptionally nice. The I.M. Pei building is a plus.

Wheelchair accessibility excellent

By Sandra G |

the museum is laid out so it was easy to push wheelchair and have the person in the chair see all the exhibits. The exhibits were awesome. So much diversity in exhibits on display

great experience

By jack |

what an amazing experience. so glad i was able to enjoy this museum with my family. I will be sure to visit again this year.

If you have not been here in a long time, must visit

By Roger K |

I was very impressed with the entire Museum and the newer aspects of the property.
It has 15 years since I last visited here. We spent 4 hours going through the entire museum starting from the early BC ages to modern times. Could spend more time depending how much you read and study.
Spacious rooms, nothing is crowded. There are Museum workers in every section. Some have knowledge of the displays, others are there for security.
You will be impressed. This is a gem for Cleveland.
Take the time to visit here.

It’s free!

By DottyB |

Huge museum with so much to see! We came to see the impressionists but this museum offers so much more. There is something for everyone here just make sure you wear comfy shoes and budget a few hours to take it all in. The docents and staff are very knowledgeable and were so helpful. I downloaded the app to my phone and that really helped us get around, we were lost on the first floor at one point!

A real gem!

By TKS1227 |

What a wonderful way to spend the day!
Much of the art on display took my breath away with a variety of genres and everything well labeled.
Even the cafe was far better than a typical museum lunch

So glad it's here in CLEVELAND Oh Its amazing!

Beautiful way to spend a whole day with Beautiful Friends & ART!
The curator was a great addition to touring the museum we learned new stuff!

First trip to Cleveland

By Teresa T |

This was my first time in Cleveland despite being an Ohio native. Pleasantly surprised to learn that the museum is free to visit. Even more excited to know that an exhibit of Michelangelo's work was at the museum. This exhibit did have a fee, but it was worth it. Beautiful museum!!

Cleveland Museum of Art

By NorCalresident |

Cleveland Museum of Art is lovely and I would always recommend visiting this fine museum! There was a special exhibit on adt of Southern China that was excellent.

Fabulous museum!

By Matt G |

Beautiful building, helpful staff, wonderful variety of highest quality art. And museum is free for everyone. On street parking available, adjacent. Don't miss!

World Class Museum

By Carol G |

The CMA never disappoints. Great collection and always special exhibits. Meet up with friends in the atrium is lovely.

Make time to go here-you'll be so glad you did!

By Shore G |

Wow, what a fabulous museum. Free to all, all the time. Had just the right amount of time at 3 hours. If I lived here, would come monthly to spend time in the lovely spaces surrounded by beauty and amazing history. Easy, reasonably priced museum parking. Be sure to drive up to level 3 of parking and walk right in. Easy!

Huge variety of galleries with highlights throughout. Do yourself a favor and read up briefly on the 'do not miss items'-you'll be glad you did. I was thrilled to see the Tiffany and Faberge exhibits, and don't miss Rodan's The Thinker, and the story surrounding the statue, and take in the amazing view from where he is.

Well done, Cleveland!

Great art museum

By Marek L |

Free and us some of the masterpieces We went for the special Michelangelo exhibit which there was a charge for ! Staff was friendly and helpful .the Monet , Dali , Warhol Cezane and Van Gogh are free to see well worth visiting

World class museum - highly recommend!

By katgreen |

We planned a quick trip to Cleveland to catch the Takashi Murakami exhibit. This special exhibit was absolutely stunning and well worth the entrance fee. What we didn’t expect was how incredible the rest of the museum is! What an absolute treasure (and free entry to the museum) full of so many gems around every corner.

Unpleasant Security Personnel

By Jane C |

Fantastic artwork, but Security is stricter than TSA and much less professional. I set off the newly-installed metal detector, and even though I told the guard what I thought it was, he had me dump the entire contents of my large-ish bag out in front of all the people entering the museum.
