Not Impressed

By Cara C |

Commercial Street really didn’t wow me. Sure, there are shops, art galleries, and restaurants but it’s very touristy.

Shop

By melissa levy |

Lots of nice art stores, clothing, souvenirs. Not for those who hate crowds or those that are homophobic, as this is a very openly gay area.

Wonderful Walk, Art, People, Drinks, Food

By TRAVELINGCWS |

This was my first time to Provincetown, what an incredible little town and Commercial Street an exceptional way to enjoy the town.

We went to the beach in the morning, rested and then we visited Commercial Street for shopping, dinner and shopping again.

We enjoyed the art studios, art in yards on the side streets, the restaurants, shopping and all the fun people watching.

We have visited many small resort towns with a Main Street, Provincetown is the most charming of all.

We will return.

Wonderful Experience ...a MUST SEE in New England

By Friendly Traveller |

A wonderful magical place ... you must see this place to believe it !!! Come any time of the year ......always something going on for everyone !!

Walkable with Plenty of Shops & Restaurants

By Angel_Travel_Bug |

The downtown area is very walkable sharing the road with bikes, people and cars. There is everything from art galleries to restaurants. We stopped by the pharmacy and grabbed lunch on the deck. Plenty options for all in a short distance.

Fun and Active

By izbobh |

Always a lot of activity as have great restaurants, art galleries and your typical tourist trap shops. Right off pier to take sailing excursions, including whale watchong

Something for everyone

By Crissy666 |

Visited Provincetown with my husband and we loved this Street. All tastes are catered for , Restaurants, cafes, pubs, wine bars, takeaways, and the full range of shops - including some great antique shops- and galleries, We loved then all , and the atmosphere on the street is so chilled and relaxing even just walking up and down here makes you feel good.

It's a long street full of shops, restaurants and interesting sites

By PuzzleSolver855 |

We walked this street on several days. Enjoyed different restaurants, the wharves, the historic buildings and the pedestrian friendly atmosphere. We even caught the weekly Farmers' market. A nice place but pretty long.

PEOPLE WATCHING

By Miles Archer |

Quite busy. Good for people watching. But many shops closed, either permanently or temporarily because of covid and lockdown regukatione. I imagine this street is packed with people during the summer.

love it

By Turtle5954 |

What a place, utterly bohemian and relaxed. Just a lovely town and full of artists and restaurants of all sorts. Love Provincetown and will be back again soon.

Nothing like Commercial Street with the car show parade each September.

By Hooked_on_travel77 |

One of the most fun shopping areas in the US. Delightful shops and restaurants. Every time we visit in September the car show parade seems to be here on a Saturday after Labor Day. Honking in the distance indicates the parade is about ready to start after a show on the pier. Parking spaces and lots are all over the place but they do get full at times. Commercial street is enjoyable from the 10:00 a.m. opening of the shops until the late night hours.

Lively, vibrant people place.

By Neil D |

Commercial Street is the place to be in Provincetown. Full of interesting shops, restaurants, entertainment venues, and galleries, as well as the usual ice cream and schlocky souvenir places. This is a great people place to see tourists and locals walk by as you enjoy your meal or beverage at a street-side cafe. The farther north you go on the street, the gayer it gets, was my impression. But the town is full of straight and gay visitors. So, sit back, relax, go shopping and enjoy!

Shopping mecca

By RJB1215 |

Commercial Street is always buzzing with excitement and foot traffic. People watching from the town hall area or any area along the street is a must. It gets crowded in season so beware.

Shopping on Commercial St

By Margi L |

After tour, visited many shops on Commercial St.

Nothing more to add except stores are mostly tee shirts, souvenirs, ice cream, & candy.

mini-Camdentown

By jeffrey k |

despite the COVID scare, Commercial street is active. we noted a few closures, and a few vacancies. nevertheless, the flavor of the street is preserved.

What is this place? very few comparable streets are found in the US. Northampton MA has some of the same funkiness and interest. People who have visited London and taken in Camdentown will recognize the flavor of the street and its life, but Camdentown is P'town on steroids.

Advice to visitors with cars: don't try to park in the lots on Commercial st. the spaces are almost invariably taken. when you come in on Connell st off route 6, at Bradford st there is a large private lot and next to the lumber/hardware store on conwell, there is a town pay lot. P'town is small, so you can walk to everywhere.

Crazy Busy But Fun!

By misopiso88 |

We were in Provincetown for the day and had a blast walking up and down Commercial Street checking out all the fun shops. Highly recommend as a day trip if you are on Cape Cod.

A good place to shop

By Gary N |

We were able to visit a number of shops along Commercial Street. There was a wide variety of items including outdoor tents selling food items from local farms. The street can be crowded at times that just adds to the charm.

Fun stroll and lovely quirky shops

By Andrea S |

We were told we must go her but if we did we had to be liberal. We went late morning in Carnival week. Was a very safe and fun atmosphere and the we all loved it. Everyone was so friendly and my husband loves his new hat from the mad hatter! For me it is a must to go here... no brainer

Wonderful for People Watching

By skipmays |

Commercial Street is the main drag (pun intended) in town. It's a one-way, narrow, one lane street running from East to West for the entire length of P'Town and is the unofficial center of the P'Town universe. Although it is designed to handle automotive traffic, it is mostly a super-wide sidewalk because locals and visitors wander all over it as they shop or just gander at the galleries, shops or gorgeous little homes that straddle both sides where the sidewalks are usually only inches wide. The people watching component is key, with benches or low walls sprinkled about to accommodate guests. The "action" seems to center around the ferry landing and municipal pier with the typical tourist attractions (tee shirt shops, bars, etc). Off-season can appear to be a ghost town, but the year-round shops and restaurants offer great service and fun company. If you drive, check out the various off-street parking options and ditch your car. Commercial St.(and P'Town in general) is a walking street (although watch out for bikes who routinely speed by going the wrong way). The key is relaxing and just taking in all the sights (and shops).

Busy

By Charles K |

A busy road with many eclectic shops along the easy. It's good for people watching as you stroll down the road.

Crowded

By Paula W |

We also enjoy walking the streets and going in the shops but were worried at how busy it was during Covid. Everyone was wearing masks but it was hard to stay 6 feet apart.

Lively atmosphere

By ADean19 |

Commercial Street is the main street in Provincetown. Outside the central area is quieter at both ends. The west end has art galleries and good restaurants, the other end beautiful houses some very old. A walk down to the very end of Commercial St is a must. In the centre it is extremely lively and very openly gay. The public library and the town hall are well worth visiting . The more you get into the centre the busier it gets and it’s more cheap and cheerful with plenty of signs for the evening shows that are part of the cultural experience. It’s impossible not to walk Commercial street.
There’s nowhere quite like it!

Great walk for both shoppers and non-shoppers!

By SaltLifeGal |

We walked/DH husband ran the entire 3 miles each day of our 3 day stay. With our visit during Covid/preMemorial Day Weekend, many shops/several restaurants were not open yet or had limited hours, so I sadly stayed out of the stores, but lots of fun independent retailers/art galleries to explore in season. Walk the wharf, and if you go towards Truro, there is a beautiful stretch of historic homes and cottages with lovely gardens and Cape Cod cute factor to take in. Lots of people and dog watching too!

Bad walking environment and unfriendly locals.

By Michael H |

For what should be a walkable town it is horrible to walk around because of lack of sidewalks and/or pedestrian-only facilities - so you’re left to walk in the street and try and not get hit by idiots driving too fast.

Also too many unfriendly/obnoxious locals.

Would never waste my time going to Provincetown again.

Fun place to shop, but beware

By Ron A |

Great shopping is found from gift and tourism shops to fine leathers and clothing. Especially in late October there are many sales and great bargains. Beware, two of the shops were advertising many items at 40% off on their windows and on signs above merchandise, but you go to the register and the prices were full price. So watch checking out and pay attyto what you think you are paying We got many fall items at 40% off and were very happy with our purchases.

Saturday

By Denise J |

It was great fun exploring and walking this street. Find a parking lot as Commercial is narrow and really doesn't have parking. Don't miss the Farmers market and stop in the Town Hall.

A great stroll

By evodkativ |

Great combination of tourist/fudge/ ice cream with well-curated gift shops and galleries. Great for a day of strolling.

Just as I remember...

By tigrrrl06 |

I haven’t been in years but will be back much sooner! Everything was so clean and people were respectful and following guidelines. Great day!

Amazing time

By Matthew Schohn |

I would move here if I could. This place is amazing and will be back as soon as I can. Had the best Lobster grilled cheese

Not worth it

By smfaw |

Very crowded. Lots of rainbow flags. Expensive and very little to do. Not the best place for kids. Drag queens.

Times Square of Provincetown

By Lauren L |

Very crowded, lots of tourists. People who work in the stores are miserable. Cars come through when the roads should be closed off.

A very different walk along a commercial main street.

By mikewmello |

A fun walk along a street with a lot of very different businesses and historical locations. A number of very different restaurants and small eateries. Well worth doing but not an easy street to navigate as you have to walk in the street many times. Luckily the traffic is one way.

Love this place

By jaqi007 |

Everyone from everywhere is walking this street and such a friendly place to be yourself. Masks are required on commercial street....maybe because there were almost 0 covid cases and they are trying to keep their community healthy. Traffic control passing out masks if you dont have on. If you dont believe in the covid virus Please dont harrass the merchants, they are doing their best, and dont need belligerent folks yelling about their rights to shop without a mask in their tiny stores.

Busy busy busy

By Darth Sloc |

Wow, it’s like bourbon street of New England. Drove through town looking for a restaurant, turned onto Commercial street by mistake, wow. People cris crossing the street, bicycles riding at ya. Definitely recommend finding a parking spot and walking around.

A wild place!

By captfaustf |

Provincetown is a wild place. Famous for its eccentricities and large gay population, a walk down commercial st, on a nice sunny day puts it all on display in front of you, even two weeks after Labor day. You won't be disappointed.

Fun and crazy

By Michelle R |

Wonderful Restaurants, Fabulous Galleries, grab a coffee or an ice cream cone and enjoy people watching…shopping in all price ranges…but be warned not all shops are appropriate for everyone..fun and a little bit crazy

Vibrant place with great art, music, energy and amazing shops and restaurants.

By Marie P |

A great place to just walk around and take everything in. Great restaurants and shops. Not just touristy stuff but unique things everywhere.

So fun!

By Krystina Marie Price |

First time in Provincetown. Loved it!! Fun shops, beautiful people, great art, and food from morning till night. Maybe it's because it's a seasonal place at the end of the season, everyone was playful, talkative and smiling. Not much more than a mile long, we stopped in at least four galleries on our way to dinner at the Lobster Pot. Friendly gal with the red mohawk got a big hug from both of us. She's into body piercing...;-)

Strolling heaven

By Claudia P |

This is a great place to stroll, people watch or shop. I suggest you check ratings for places to eat as location does not equal quality, only price. Parking is expensive so recommend planning for the day--like going to the beach, etc.

Travel with Joann Lyon

By Joann L |

I ran a trip to Provincetown July 13th. We motor coached from Rhode Island to Plymouth Mass. Took the boat over from Plymouth to Provincetown. It was such a great trip. Provincetown was so impressive. Very Clean, very neat, the flowers and window boxes are such an added charm. I highly recommend the Trolley Tour for 45 min - $24.00 it was the best money spent. The history from the guide was Superb and the Trolley takes you all the way down Commercial Street and then out to the National Seashore to Race point. Fantastic - you actually get to see most of PTown. We went to lunch at Peppe on the water. Wonderful meal. I will definitely be running this trip again next year - same time.

Hot

By Happy1232013 |

The streets are filled with restaurants, activities, shops and more! Keep in mind it can be hot so bring and drink lots of water! Bring comfy shoes as well! Enjoy!

Great people watching - park & walk, don't drive on busy days :)

By babystepper |

Great people watching and interesting architecture. Until P'town pronounces this a pedestrian mall I suggest you park & walk to enjoy Commercial Street (rather than driving it) - it's narrow, it's a 2-way bicycle route but without space for a bike lane, and pedestrians spill onto the road to stroll (not their fault, just how the space use works out).

Lots of energy on the street and definitely worth doing at least once. The shops have plenty of character and most are not as spendy vs. say Chatham. The resto's are a bit reminiscent of Key West - fun, party atmosphere including some second floor outside seating for people watching.

The Heart of Provincetown

By Dreamer758095 |

Commercial street is 99% of the reason to visit Provincetown. Besides the array of small shops and restaurants, it is the best "people watching" place ever! I always enjoy reading the many tee shirts that are on display in some of the store windows. Many people walking along the sidewalk have dogs. All the dogs are friendly and enjoy getting petted. If parking is tight on Commercial street, you will probably find a space on one of the side streets. There are a few, small paid parking lots too (and I do mean few and small). Wherever you park, you will not be far from Commercial street and will easily find your way around. Walk as much of Commercial street as you want. You will be back to see more!

Tuesday Visit.

By Sam |

Awesome experience, lots of shops open. But lots of the galleries are closed Monday and Tuesday. We went looking for adding to our art collection and was disappointed. Definitely look up the shoppes you are wanting to visit and make sure they are open. This was our fault for not doing that.

Quintessential Ptown!

By dekight |

Such a fun stroll. If you were to visit most of the shops and galleries and stop for lunch and afternoon "tea" you can easily spend 2 days exploring Commercial St and side streets.

Provincetown

By Slk T |

Nice little walk around town. It’s near the Pilgrim Monument and along the beach. Beautiful! Lots of food places and shops.

The coolest street to stroll eat and shop!

By Heather Killmer |

You should come to Provincetown, and stroll commercial street. Shop eat and enjoy the day. Then come back at night and enjoy dinner outside of a show at the many lounges that there are. The museums, full of history in Provincetown is amazing. The art galleries are a abundant. There is so much to see and do. It's a must to have fun on Commercial Street. Enjoy the many things it has to offer.

Great vibe!

By moot |

A very busy place on an August Friday! Lots of interesting shops and even more interesting people watching! Everyone very friendly and welcoming stores.

Lots of activity

By Michael G |

Commercial Street has lots of activity with its restaurants, bars and shops. It’s a good place to relax, enjoy and generally have a good time.

Magical

By JP |

This place is magical! Everyone is so happy and friendly! There is no shortage of places to eat, drink, shop, etc. All of the people we ran into working on commercial street are so nice! There is a big lot with paid parking as free spots are scarce. The florals, buildings, etc are perfect for photo ops and everything is right on the water! Don’t miss out!

MEH

By Bjt1026 |

Meh. We got there before most of the shops opened. Lovely little bed and breakfasts with beautiful gardens. Shops around were junky.

Girls Weekend

By travelgirl3781 |

By far the best place to go for a girls weekend!!! Reasonably priced shops of all variety! Fantastic places to eat, amazingly fun night life! You never know what you are going to see here and people are all there to be friendly and have a great time! Carnival week is a bucket list experience- go for the parade and you’ll never want to miss it!

This is the Gay Mecca of the East Coast!

By Stef |

What a great time to visit P-Town and Commercial St! Pride open weekend, and the street was bopping!! Beautiful people! Great foods! Great entertainment! Great shops! 10/10!

So much to see

By Allison |

Besides being a colorful, busy street with so much to offer - shopping, eating, drinking, activities, it is an incredible people-watching street! You never know who may walk down the street.

Pretty little seaside town with tourist trap prices...

By Jay H |

Worth the walk. Nice quaint town feel. Just be prepared to get gouged if you are hungry, thirsty, or want to purchase just about anything. At night, it can get a little tricky with your children (depending on their age and curiosity) asking question you may not be prepared to answer.

A Fascinating Experience

By John T |

Commercial Street is the main thoroughfare through Provincetown and leads you along a road of discovery from the amazing mix of unique properties that line the road surrounded by the most beautiful gardens and planting arrangements to apartment buildings and then to bars and restaurants and food outlets of every conceivable origin and ethnicity all intertwined with an eclectic mix of shops and boutiques interspersed with more art galleries than I have ever seen in such a condensed area. There is something here for everyone.

Provincetown has become the Gay Capital of the US and this brings an extremely diverse and colourful theme to the place which just enhances its character and appeal.

Steeped in history as documented in the excellent Pilgrim Fathers Museum and Monument that dominates the town this place is a must to visit and a place you will not forget.

P-Town Holiday

By NorthStar4052 |

Love Commercial Street. The sights, the sounds, the shopping, the restaurants, the shows. So walkable also which is a bonus.

bustling with food and shops

By ISJZ13 |

not cheap but alot of fun for everyone. candy shops for the kids and other neat places to pop in for gifts. try kung fu dumplings for a great snack

Open, welcoming, affirming, and fun!

By fastrada |

This was WAY more fun than my home city's Boystown! The narrow street is lined with cute businesses, restaurants, coffee shops, bars, ice cream parlors, and rainbow flags, and the water is just a short walk away. In the morning the crowd is a little bit of everything - families, teens, couples of all sorts, folks with rainbow-colored hair wearing tutus and stiletto heels. As the evening goes on, the drag queens come out to promote their shows. I enjoyed sitting by the Portuguese center being serenaded by a "beauty shop quartet" made up of four lovely drag queens. So much fun! I didn't make it down the entire street in one day, there was so much to see.

Great spot for people watching!

By Joanne B |

We stopped here twice during our stay in Ptown. The first time we just wanted to get a quick bite and a drink but we ended up staying for a couple hours. We were seated, overlooking the street and had a good view of the goings on. I had the pizza with sauce, mozzarella, garlic, and tomatoes. It was “bangarang!” (Reference to the movie “Hook.”). Drinks were good and wait staff came by frequently to keep the drinks coming. We went back a second day because we were trying to keep our spending down and prices were reasonable (for Ptown). And the good food and drinks! Highly recommend. If you want to people watch there is a decent amount of seating overlooking the street.

Charming street!

By Caitlin Mathews |

Busy, pedestrian friendly street with so much to see. Lovely shops, terrific restaurants, local art & scenic water view points. We LOVED visiting the vintage clothing store & Bayside Betsy’s restaurant. Definitely my favorite part of our Cape Cod tour! ❤️

Great place to people watch. Lots of nice shops and places to eat.

By Kenneth S |

We visit Commercial St multiple times per year, year round. Parking can be difficult during the tourist season. In the fall we have no problem finding parking and the public parking lot is free certain times of the off season.

Very quaint cape cod style street with lots of Inns, shops and restaurants. If staying in Provincetown we prefer to stay on commercial st. It’s a short walk to some of our favorite restaurants and shops.

Certain times of the year there are activities that take place on commercial st which some parents may not want young children to see. That being said we travel here year round with our children. Each time we visit commercial st we meet new people and always have a great time.

Relaxed and very diverse

By Peter D |

Few places welcome such diversity, but it's great seeing people relaxed and enjoying themselves. Recommend highly, but people who frown on open same-gender togetherness, or prefer not to have their children see that, will not enjoy. My wife and I are straight and it was fun to meet such a diverse group of people.

A fun street

By Ussubforce |

People watching to no end here. Enough stores, galleries, food, drinks, and dessert to make it all worth while. Festively decorated of the holiday a definite mush see.

Always a fun time.

By JoyYagid |

Commercial Street is the heart of P-town. Its crowded, noisy and full of life. There's pretty much everything there - from food to shopping to fudge to t-shirts to ice cream.

Never seen anything quite like Commercial Street!

By surfercharlie |

Wow, what a place! Provincetown was strongly and repeatedly recommended as a MUST DO while on Cape Cod, so we made the long drive to the very tip of the peninsula. Commercial Street in Provincetown was everything we were told it would be. And then some! Fortunately, we went in May - before the apparent "busy season" but it was still quite busy. Driving and parking on Commercial Street - NOT recommended. The road is only about one lane wide, and parking is nearly impossible. We finally did find a place to park our huge SUV (tip: take a SMALL car to Provincetown). And we explored as much as we could with the limited time we had (about 3 hours).

Commercial Street is WILD! My goodness. If you have ever been to Duval Street in Key West, this is similar. Only maybe crazier. We saw things we have never seen before. LOL. I do not even know how to explain or describe it. I would just say, leave your biases, prejudices, and inhibitions at home. Go to Commercial Street with your mind and eyes wide open, and ENJOY yourself! We had a great time. So many shops.....so many eateries. So many shows. (Mostly drag queen shows, but shows, nevertheless.) LOL.

Commercial Street is about miles long. Maybe a bit longer. It would take a LONG time to explore the entire street, which likely would require an overnight stay. We only had a few hours, so drove a bit of it just to be able to see as much as possible. You really do need at least a full day or two, but even a few hours is fun and worth the drive.

Go Commercial Street!!!!

By Mariann R |

Commercial Street is just friendly and fun! There are many great restaurants to choose. The whaling trip was great too!

West End Salon/ Balayage

By Carole Wolf |

Dougie is a master at the Balayage hair treatment. The delicate streaks give a sunlit boost to the hair. What a treat! Highly recommend!

Not for kids

By saba s |

Not the place for kids, crowded and small street, not with kids and stroller, the food was great and the cookie place.

Better Than I Remembered

By XSki007 |

Full of charm and a nice quiet atmosphere even with the crowds of people on a weekend.

Fun shops, great street and street scenes and none of it is honkey tonk. I loved it.

Great shopping!

By Oldblue1 |

An interesting street, great shopping, restaurants, a neat place to explore and enjoy!
It’s a destination place to relax and stroll around for an afternoon or evening.

The Most "Open" street in America!

By Eur0pe2013 |

We love strolling up and down Commercial Street-before or after a whale watch, before or after renting a boat, before or after dinner-heck, anytime is the perfect time for enjoying the sights (Drag Queens flaunting their stuff and encouraging you to see their cabaret shows), sounds (can you say Piano Bar?), and smells (SO many delicious restaurants to choose from!) of this long street which cuts right thru the center of P-Town. Families, same-sex couples, interesting shops (sex toy shops), home decor and clothing stores...as well as homemade ice cream, fudge & candy shops, it really is the most welcoming, "Open" street in the States! Visit with an open mind...

Provincetown during COVID-19

By Scott M |

We love P'town both in and out of season; this year, we wondered if COVID-19 would turn it into a ghost town. No worries, though; it's true that on a warm Saturday, it was not nearly as crowded as most of our other summer visits. That being said, it is less crowded and generally quieter; not so many people, all in summer clothes and masks. Most of the shops are open, but since many are quite small, the number of people allowed in is restricted.

My take is: go visit, enjoy the lighter crowds, support the P'town community and merchants.

Weekend in Ptown

By Skier9175 |

Commercial Street is a cacophony of restaurants, stores, galleries and people. It always has a great “buzz” and is constantly busy even in the early season such as mid May. There is lots to experience and taste. Boat tours and bicycle rentals are nearby. The area MUST be navigated on foot. It is a great walking experience and a must see when you are on the outer Cape.

Variety and colorful people

By ReMiwe |

Very picturesque street with a wide variety of shops, galleries, restaurants and more. Great shopping in October sales. The atmosphere is open to everyone. Just be you and you won't be judged. No matter.

Pedestians and bikers have the right of way.

By thoffay160@gmail.com |

It's a great place to amble around, enjoy the view and the bustle, or try to find a parking space. Lots of shops and restaurants - it's what you make of it. We were about 12 blocks away, some of the group biked there and loved it.

So much to do!

By Jim K |

So many shops, bars, and restaurants along Commercial Street Provincetown. Great for people watching too. Public restrooms available nearby if needed, and they're clean.

Unique shops

By cohoman |

This is the main Street with various shops and restaurants. Lots of bar & grills, few clothing shops. Very narrow street where cars have to avoid and drive around meandering people in the streets.

Want different?........You got it!!

By ralph f |

You won't be disappointed on your visit to Commercial Street, where eclectic is commonplace and people are always having fun!.....always a safe environment, but every now and then adult beverages result in skewed decision-making, but quickly-acting self-policing usually avoids any serious intervention......keep an open mind and you will enjoy it all, for sure.......

Very charming town with vibrant culture with pervasively Caucasian population

By Maria J |

I’m a gay Asian male who has traveled extensively around the world. I’m not going to lie, this place had less than 5 Asian people I could spot on the street during my 6-day stay in hot June days. This is based on my experiences. I physically counted: I was not able to spot more than 5 Asian-looking people on the street.

Summer was here and it was a fun city with a vibrant culture and very open-minded local people welcoming visitors. Based on my actual experiences during our 6-day visit, however, it was with predominantly Caucasian population, and I found that unusual, given the proximity to Boston where Asian population is historically quite large.

Restaurants and gay scenes seemed plentiful. People were nice. Downtown was pretty with many boutique shops and restaurants. Food was good in general. Based on my experiences there, it was just simply predominantly Caucasian based on my actual experiences there. I cannot distort my actual experiences to say otherwise. I would welcome any picture or evidence that this street at one point in time did not have predominantly Caucasian population. And then I will take down this review.

Without such evidence, it is reasonable to the public to vicariously "feel" what other individuals experienced. That's the whole point of reviews by definition. Individual's actual experiences only enforce the validity of the review. Otherwise, I would need to distort my experiences, which is by any means not the soul of reviews defined by the law.

t’s a nice place overall but I don’t think I will visit again for vacation based on the empirical fact.

This is the main street and a great place to meet and greet !

By Carly1Esq |

Sure lots of the stores are touristy. The restaurants are great and not so much... but its just too much fun to window shop and to enjoy the folks in Provincetown along with an occasional street performer.

People watching

By Lynda D |

We drove around the National Seashore and stopped at the visitor's center. Drove through the Main St. on the Sunday before Halloween. Actually, we crawled, as the street was filled with pedestrians enjoying a sunny day. Lots of shops, art galleries and some restaurants still open this late in the year. Paid parking lots available ($10), so if you want to stroll and window-shop, this is the place to do it!

Cool walk

By greglinmon |

Really neat walk. Reminded us of Duval street in Key West. Lots of businesses and a vibrant feeling by pedestrians and shop owners. Clean.

Something for Everyone

By munchkin |

This is a "something for everyone " street. From female impersonators, to the LGBTQ community, families, everyone is welcome. It's not a really long street but packs a punch. Eclectic shops, art galleries, tchotchkes everywhere. One of my favorite shops is Recovering Hearts, where I get my AA coin every year. The restuarants are endless, from the Red Inn at the West End to Fanizzis at the East End. Stop in for pizza at Spiritus, or a sweet treat at the Portuguese Bakery. Nothing is ever boring on Commercial Street.

Loved the bustle!

By Gina H |

I loved Commercial Street! It’s nuts with people going every which way. I certainly wouldn’t drive there. Parking is 20.00 and hard to find! We were on bikes- parked our bikes and walked. (Still had to be very aware of everything around you ). Shoppes are quaint- some very expensive, some not. Lots of galleries. Gayer than straight if that matters to you. A fantastic place to people watch and shop!

Great Shopping and Friendly Street

By lipner |

All shapes and sizes of shops, folks, eateries. A great take on a fall Sunday afternoon. Lunch was a treat, Keno at the Crown and Anchor, people watching extravaganza!

Love the Portuguese Bakery & Shop Therapy!

By Lura S |

Incredibly fun, so many great stores and restaurants. Don't miss the Art alley next to Shop Therapy - truly gorgeous.

You haven't lived until you spend a few hours rambling around Commerical Street.

By H2oman48 |

One of life's great joys. A host of great shops to explore and while away a few hours. Great restaurants along the way.

Definitely Alive!

My family and I visit Commercial Street at least 3-5 times a year. There is always something fun to experience. We have done everything from festivals, concerts at town hall, a walk on the pier, to seeing some great shows!

LOVED!

By AmyF1965 |

Great people, great shops!! What an aray of people! It was a busy street, can only imagine in the middle of summer!! Would definitely go back and recommend!

Very cool quirky and a great place to people watch

By NeilJ-HongKong |

This is a very cool place with a very cool vibe. The chance to watch the world go by and just relax and enjoy the sights in front of you is too good to miss.

Great fun and a great place

Such a happy place!

By Rudy Polak |

Provincetown is such a wonderful place to visit, it’s the gem of Cape Cod. Lots of small shops on Commerce street, many of them locally owned and run. So much variety, and very friendly staff.

Driveby

By Robert D |

We were hoping to walk this but saw how many other people were present during COVID and it was a turn off. People were masked. However, there were so many other people that we realized it was too much or a risk. So, we drove down Commercial Street. I can't imagine how hopping this place must be in the middle of summer.

Commercial is, well, just that

By MarkCharney |

It's hard to rate a street, right, one called "commercial." It's pretty. It's very crowded. Lots of bars and restaurants and dessert places and people watching. But sure, it's expensive, tons of the food is pretty mediocre, residents stay away, and in the winter it sorta dies. I enjoy walking it when it's not too crowded and people watching is great. Town hall is fun. Hawkers are not pushy. It's fine. It's "commercial." It's for tourists. It does what it says it's doing.

Beautiful area to visit

By Michelle C |

Great shopping, friendly people, good restaurants, great sight seeing. Highly recommended! Family friendly and pet friendly.

Fun Walk Up & down Commercial street

By Dan R |

Great restaurants, Art Galleries and bars. Very diverse entertainment...late night piano bars. Great Seafood!

Busy. Strict mask zone area.

By Culture & Wanderlust |

Commercial street was lively and entertaining. Busy and difficult to find public parking. As busy as it was, people followed the mand3atirt mask zone rule.

Nice place to shop and people watch

By GATfive |

Nice, busy shopping street that's good for a one time visit. Great people watching and plenty of shops, but I was surpised there weren't more nicer shops. In most of them the T-shirt/sweatshirt quality was very poor. We had to look a while to find a place with decent clothes. Street is narrow so gets crowded, especially since it allows traffic one way. If you are with little ones, be very careful.

The heart and soul of P-town

By ABritTourist |

It seems like a long walk down Commercial Street because there are so many shops you just have to visit. There are plenty of bars, cafés and restaurants to sustain your journey and a few exotic emporia suited to P-town's diverse community. Many unique gifts and souvenirs were purchased. Huge fun!

Great attraction!

By Champy |

The street is filled with great restaurants and my favorite bakery! The stores are great as well. Take a stroll down the street you won't regret it!

Best part of Cape

By busybee2775 |

A gem in Cape. Fun, irreverent, pretty, lively with tons of great stores, signage, and eateries. Was love and happiness everywhere, which is nice. At night the vibe changed to a more party revealers and diners and still great. Parking is expensive.

Vibrant Commercial Street a Must See!

By Christo S |

A walk down Commercial Street in Provincetown is a treat for both the avid shopper and the casual browser. And if you're hungry or thirsty there's a big variety of restaurants, bars and coffee shops to enjoy. French Feelings is a great shop with many different kinds of upscale goods for sale, from oud room diffusers through to colorful men's shirts. And that's just scratching the surface. A visit to Provincetown would not be complete without a trip down Commercial Street.

Busy tourist center

By Phoenix095 |

What can you say? This is the major street to the very small downtown area of Provincetown. It is full of commercial enterprises like restaurants, shops and other enticements. Enjoyable if you're in the mood for lots of people and shopping.

It never changes!

By skipperh |

Commercial street is like a time-warp. I spent 1-2 weeks each year in Provincetown on vacations from 50s-70s, with occasional trips since. Came back for the first time in 13 years, with another 15 year gap before that. Stores change but many of the same buildings and restaurants remain. It's exceedingly crowded in the summer, but much more comfortable to stroll along in the fall; people-watching is fun all the time. This is the heart of Provincetown.

Must walk

By Wyliegal |

A mix of restaurants and mainly shops for the many tourists walking the street. Think they should block traffic after 11am. The restaurants cover everything from pizza by the slice to high end.

Great shopping

By PelleasPhiladelphia |

Some of the best small town shopping stop I’ve ever experienced. Almost car-less and packed with pedestrians, there’s a shop for everyone: from lovely art, to great t-shirt stores (truly), to home furnishings, book stores, game stores, etc etc. it’s the heart of p-town and doesn’t disappoint!

Fun place to pass the time

By ogerkan |

Commercial street is packed w/ stores, cafes/bars and Cannabis Dispensaries. It was pretty quiet while we visited in May but it has all the ingredient of a party town!

A Good Reflection

By Steve |

After dining at The Lobster Pot, which I would highly recommend, we strolled down this quant street and took in the shops and atmosphere. It was a good reflection of a typical seaside village.

Sad and disheartening

By ArtMom13 |

Shocking unAmerican town, I am glad I didn’t have small children with me. Our founding fathers must be rolling over in their graves. Keep in mind that I am from nyc and regularly visit Greenwich Village. So sad to see the state of this country. Perversion is the norm here.

Bustling and entertaining

By Hotelsnobb |

Fun walking down the street, popping in and out of great little shops. Lots of restaurants to choose from also. It can get crowded and the street is narrow with a sidewalk only on one side part of the way, so be careful of bikes, scooters, and cars.

Loved commercial street!!

By TracyM |

Our family loved our evening in Provincetown walking down commercial street. We got dinner, got some ice cream, some amazing homemade peanut butter cups, salt water taffy, walked in some stores and just had a great time. Lots of families and couples out enjoying the evening.

Fun to explore

By shamrockri1 |

So many wonderful restaurants and unique art, clothes food, and gift shops. A colorful, eclectic, fun vibe.

We really enjoyed our day here

By jtg1961 |

An enjoyable, dog friendly stroll down a pedestrian friendly street with welcoming shops and excellent restaurant choices, parking was a breeze and reasonable, the harbor front is scenic, and the people were friendly.

Not worth the aggravation

By Dianne K |

Trashy and run down, parking a challenge and you take your life in your hands walking the narrow streets and avoiding cars

Lots to see and shop, restaurants, people watching, events like the Carnival Parade

By Pamela H |

Many people come here by ferry, and spend four hours walking, eating and shopping, but I like to come by car so I can park for free on one of few parking spots in the dunes areas between Herring Cove Beach and Race Point before coming back to town, parking in one of lesser known parking lots which you can pay by phone, and then doing the slow walk up and down. Favorites are Beach taffy, ice cream, Portuguese bakery, fun t shirt places, watching people, watching the cute dogs, and the old Marine store which is always a collection of stuff you never thought of but now you must have. Of corse we know why Ptown is famous for diversity and celebration. Enjoy!

It's Not But It Is

By edward d |

People who live in the area know that Commercial Street is not Provincetown but for visitors, it is. A bit of New Orleans, a bit of Key West, and a whole lot of fun. In one door is a Cuban Artist Gallery. Beautiful. In another door you can buy a "Free Melania" T-Shirt. Food is everywhere, from street novelties to local favorites (Eat at Sam's) to some serious restauranteurs. One common denominator? Fun. Fun places to eat or drink and fun places to shop or visit. Last trip here was 30 years ago. Saw the same spirit then. Keep it going, Provincetown.

Locals HATE tourists

By Wanderer7212 |

I discovered this town and fell in love with vibrant culture and decided to stay overnight. All was amazing until i came into contact with a Shop Therapy store on the commercial street that cheated me by giving me broken merchandise, not putting something i paid for in my bag and “forgetting” to give me my recipe so I don’t have an option to return bad items they gave me. Specifically a woman working there with an African accent.

At the same time the tall guy who lives in the apartment upstairs behind the store looks like an electrician, short brown hair he drives a white beat up van and parks behind the Shop Therapy welcomed me to the town by cutting my bike lock off my bike and threw my bike into the alley in rage.

Fun times. I would live to be back but this experience has just put so much bitter taste for me that i will not be back. The hate for tourists is making this place unreturnable for me. I thought twice spending my money in that town.

Shop, eat, drink and more!

By onspithia |

Loved the endless shops on Commercial Street! Wide variety of stores with interesting items for sale. Multiple places to eat with outdoor dining as well as inside. Great people watching.

Great shopping

By Keith P |

Lots of shops to see, easily a day or two to visit all the shops. Not only is there shop but great restaurants and eat galleries to see.

If you've been to the Cape and haven't visited Ptown, well, you've haven't really been to the Cape.

By Stanislaus St. Marks |

You will find more energy and excitement in this town in 5 minutes than you will find in the rest of the Cape in 5 years!!!!!

Fun!

By Dina P |

Large, lively neighborhood with tons to do. Restaurants, shops, galleries. We went biking on the beautiful trails and went on a whale watching tour. Would love to spend more time in the area - I hope to be back!

Think tourist

By Ron J |

Provincetown has always been a place for unique, free thinkers. It is still that place. Open and friendly.
You will walk down the street (be careful it’s very uneven) with crowds of visitors and view some very unique people celebrating their individuality and creativity.
Shop the stores and galleries (a haven and home to many artists).
Enjoy your stay. Be sure to have dinner at one of the many restaurants. And you’ll definitely want a t-shirt.

Everything you could want on one street

So much to see , so little time!!!

By Travelingover50 |

We took a day trip down... between all the eating, drinking and shopping.. we could have used a back up car! We loved popping in and out of shops and restaurants... finding that special something and tasting our way through all the local fair. The people we met there were friendly and respectful... from all over the world! It’s always an amazing experience and we learn something new every time!

Wrightly Named

By williame975 |

Tons of tourist traps line both sides of the street. It is also a gay collection point - Provincetown now has one of the largest gay populations of any city. Many of the art galleries display a lot of homo-erotic art so be prepared.

Junk Stores, Overpriced "art" and a disgusting town employee

By Seasunska |

After driving hours to get to P-Town, our first stop was to use a public restroom. I went into the men's room and was immediately ready to leave. The rest room attendant (town employee) had his face pressed against the crack in the bathroom stall and was staring (leering) at whatever was going on in there. He did not seem embarrassed by his actions and continued to peer while I tried to use a urinal as far from him as possible.

Commercial street was packed with dingy buildings filled with junk and overpriced "art". Everything was overly sexualized and pretty disgusting.

For a tiny town, it has 5 marijuana dispensaries - I can understand the need to be stoned if you live in this hell hole.

The beaches are beautiful, but I would rather go to the beach in Wellfleet or Chatham to avoid all of the trappings of Provincetown.

BTW - when we left several hours later, we again used the public bathroom before hitting the road. Guess who was still in the restroom peering into the stall. He made me want to vomit or smack him in the face.

I would not recommend visiting P-town unless you are living an "alternative lifestyle" or have no moral compass

Visit every year!

By Traveling Boxes |

We LOVE visiting Provincetown every year! Commercial St. is alive and fun! On Center Gallery is not to be missed!

Everything in one place

By brewColumbus_Georgia |

This is where all the action is located. From shopping to restaurants and pubs. The nightlife is center stage. Everyone is friendly and wants you to have a great time- we did!

Cute!

By Kruzngrlz |

We had not been here in years. Off season, as it was before Memorial Day. Active, but not the vibe we had seen in previous years.

Worth walking multiple times a day

By scottinmplwdnj |

We walk up and down this street many times a day when we visit. There is always something interesting to see!

Best Part of our trip!!

By Reesa R |

Awesomely Cool Place to Visit!!! So many stores, great restaurants, people, dogs, etc. We had a blast and loved our visit there!!!

Always an experience

By Eileen L |

I've been going here for several years, it's always an adventure. There are several shops and restaurants that, during the summer, always provide an entertaining time. Things quiet down considerably in the winter.

Loved Provincetown

By Brenda C |

What a lovely town. People are friendly, felt very safe, shops are great. We went over Thanksgiving so some restaurants were closed, but we still found plenty to eat and drink.

Great time on Commercial street.

By Karen B |

Lots of fun and be prepared to walk. We definitely enjoyed the bars and food! The slanted floor in the Colonial bar was nice

Fun Street

By robkelvin |

So many new shops and great restaurants everyone is friendly and love the $1 Oysters all over town at happy hour

Great for local culture, gifts and food

By Mrs F |

Loved the area, not too busy and lots of interesting shops and restaurants.
Expected the place to be too busy and crowded but was a nice surprise to be able to stroll without falling over other people.
Parking was relatively easy, we opted for a car park at $15 for the day.

A good time

By MsJEM |

Very fun and lots of stores. A good majority of them are souvenirs and shirts but there are several gems in-between. Some very good restaurants here too. We came on Oct 21-23 and it looks like we got in just before everything closes for the season. Some business already are closed. This town is built on love. Don’t come if you are closed minded or intolerant.

Very Touristy

By Keith P |

Old buildings. Very scenic. Lots of "tourist traps." I thought the stores were overpriced. Lots of tour busses and ferries from Boston. Not my kind of deal.

P-town runs on a different clock. No shortage of fun!

By tmcclintock |

Be prepared to enjoy your time. Take in the sights. Visit the classic and off-the-path venues, museums and historical views!

Fun street, crazy bathrooms

By dolphinO2 |

Not sure I've ever written about this before - but Provincetown was fun, interesting and unexpected. The one big downside was the public bathrooms. I thought the first one was a joke: an attendant asking for tips in what was not the world's cleanest bathroom. Then the signs. Also thought they were a joke: don't flush toilet with feet, don't wash anything but hands in sink, etc etc etc. I suppose it is telling of some of the people who must be using the facilities, but when I used the next public bathroom, same issue., and it was a little on the gross side. So, dear town, if you are going to have an attendant and charge for usage, please have immaculate, useful bathrooms (enough sinks, mirrors, etc)

Crowded

By pghstillerfan |

It was very crowded, the streets are narrow, and parking is expensive. I wanted to stay here to see nice sunsets, but unfortunately the place I chose to stay wasn't a good option.

Like Alice's Restaurant

By Judy H |

You can find any and everything you might want, need or like on the amazing street. There are so many good restaurants, entertainment venues, and shops that you could not see everything in a week.

Great Small Coastal Town

By Scottnpittston |

Just got back from a weekend getaway to Provincetown and Commercial Street is wonderful. All the shops, restaurants, historical buildings, and just all around great people makes it well worth the trip.

Fun and crowded

By R_Sweden |

The street goes through the city. Here we found so many restaurants, cafe's and different shops. The street was packed with pe the whole carnival week.

Outstanding

By dennys34 |

Absolut vibrant and amazing - stroll along 2 miles of stunning activities / shop great stores and party with the crowd - Provincetown at irs best

P-Town at its best.

By Mike F |

The people, the shops, the architecture ... all together make up the amazing story that unfolds in front of you. Visit and daytime or in the evening for completely different experiences. Simply a must do experience.

Overrated and Tourist trap

By united90 |

What a tourist trap. It is totally overrated. It takes forever to get there and then cars, trucks & bikes bump on each other the whole time.

The biggest pier (MacMillan Pier) is situated in such a good place at the beach but its a huge parking lot (US 30,-).

Food is overpriced and service is ok around the street, because there´s just sooo many people everywhere .... To me, it was a completely waste of time.

A Unique Town

By Jan P |

My friend and I had some time to spare before a whale watching cruise so we had the opportunity to have breakfast at one of the many cafes and engage in a little shopping. Downtown Provincetown is full of colorful houses, unique restaurants and shops that make it almost impossible to leave without making a purchase. I ended up with a Christmas ornament and a few sweatshirts as souvenirs. Very friendly and diverse crowd.

Favorite place

By that shoe guy |

Commercial street has something for everyone. From the ridiculous to the sublime!
From high-end galleries to dime store trinkets, you can find it all. Also packed with restaurants and performance venues. Almost a carnival atmosphere at times, with barkers, street buskers, face painters and the never ending parade of characters.

Not as classy as it seems

By masaccio |

With all the galleries, especially around the east end, this could be a classy place to visit, but it has quite a seedy side in places and I was left feeling that it wasn’t the romantic seaside town I expected.

Summertime sights

By Patsy F |

It was a great place to people watch, shopping, listening to music, grab a bite to eat (must have the lobster roll) and a cocktail. They have a great Pride parade too.

Reverse prejudice from homosexuals

By Mark N Tuyet |

My family loved P’town but we definitely felt reverse prejudice there but not from the locals. We are a straight family & we definitely received stares from homosexuals (as we were strolling along holding each other’s hand)....a sense of “you don’t belong here”......DEFINITELY got that vibe. I would say the stares were from homosexuals visiting. I almost got into a fight with a lesbian but my husband saw my face when I was about to turn & say something to the lesbian that visibly got into my personal space as we were eating ice cream at the ice cream shop & my husband said, “it’s time to go”.(I’m only five feet tall but I can definitely kick someone’s face off!) All the locals were very friendly though. We would love to visit again but I don’t think so because of the reverse prejudice. Other than that, we loved it because it is such a beautiful town. Too bad people won’t let people be people. We showed no prejudice towards the homosexuals; we were friendly to everyone. We let people be

stroll

By Twinzone |

Strolling the street; popping in and out of shops and galleries on a daytrip from Boston. We thought 5 hours was too long but we had to DART for the return ferry onto the Wharf.

Not kid friendly

By Rosemarie A |

I went to PTown with my girlfriend and some friends thinking I would love being with others who n my community. I found the atmosphere to be brash, low brow, and slutty. Everywhere I looked I saw men's unmentionables hanging out, which I would have preferred to not see. I was hit on by both men and women. Everyone was drunk, and despite all of this people brought their children. Very disappointed in the cliental this area attracts. If you are looking for a nice, gay friendly area to visit that is not predatory, keep searching.

Just about the happiest place there is

By Nick P |

My wife and I spent 3 days in PTown for our 15th anniversary. It's everything you need for couples fun - restaurants, bars, fun shops. Stroll the length of it, then stroll again to see the things you missed.

Nice stroll

By wernerbuk |

Stroll along the pretty houses with beautiful gardens, the many galleries and shops. Such a pleasure.

Nice place with a good mix

By Matt W |

Nice place with a good mix of shops from the typical tourist naff to some galleries and boutique style shops. The only pain is the road - it’s one way and there is only sidewalk on one side of the street so you are often walking in the road pissing off drivers. Would be easier to make it pedestrianised only between certain hours maybe.

MELTING POT of Tourists, Seasonal Residents, Shops, Artists

By AuroraontheRoad |

It was fun UNLESS it's 100 degrees, sunny and crowded then it's just HOT!!! There is a really cool used book store. Don't forget to walk farther down to the quieter end of the street to see the galleries.

People Watching at it's Best.

By Greg R |

A fun time. Watch the crowds go by, check out the many funky shops, by some fudge, have a drink or meal, check out the piers/boats, buy a Cape Cod shirt......etc.

Helltown

By Nicole |

I sincerely regret wasting my time here, if I could give this experience 0 stars I would. Unlike other historic towns in Cape Cod, we felt that Provincetown did not take pride in displaying it’s history. We visited on the 4th of July and were disappointed to be informed by an unfriendly parking guard that the Pilgrim Monument and Museum were closed for the day. In addition, the historical monuments in town were covered in bird poop and graffitied.

A lot of the buildings on Commercial Street were in disrepair and in desperate need of a new paint job and some window cleaning at the very least. We found the pier to lack charm and the nearby beaches unimpressive compared to the Nauset Light Beach and Chatham Lighthouse Beach we visited the day before.

The over-rated Commercial Street, was named appropriately for the multitude of the junk souvenir and sex toy shops, marijuana dispensaries, overpriced restaurants and night clubs. Walking the street was unpleasant and dangerous due to a frequent odor of sewage, the crowded sidewalks and rude bicyclists ready to run you over. Not worth the drive!

Okay, take it off the bucket list

By Joe R |

If your going to P-town to just spend all your time on Commercial Street let me advise you that it is nothing atypical from our tourist areas. Four hours is all you need to cover about one mile of commercialism. P-town is gay-friendly so some puritans may take exception to the scene. But overall the area is great and worth a visit

Off season

By rsonee |

Of course a lot of the stores are closed because of the off-season and COVID but it was still a nice walk and things to do. Season 2 of Hightown was taping too.

Always a surreal experience

By Fritz |

Walking Commercial street is like strolling through a painting. The colors, sounds, and smell create a uniques atmosphere the transcends the mundane aspect of your average main street. Homophobes, racists, and hateful people need not apply. This is a friendly place to express yourself in any way shape or form. With an open mind and an open heart, you will have a wonderful time!

Concentrated creativity....

By RICART75 |

Coming into town along the water, we happenstanced upon the beginning of the one-way Commercial Street, and traveled its entire length.
Being early May, there was very little vehicle traffic; meaning we could travel very slowly and not impede others. Coupled with the narrowness of the road, the endless parked autos, and the heavy pedestrian foot traffic; we often moved no faster than idle speed, with numerous stops along the way.
Having mobility issues, this was in fact a wonderful way to explore and orient oneself to what the street has to offer.
We were able to leisurely view the numerous shops, galleries, studios, eateries, etc.; and consider where we might like to return and browse in greater detail, at a later time.
For those fascinated by people-watching; this venue offers a magnificent slice of life.
Having last visited here 2 to 3+ decades ago; we were amazed at how much the area had intensified. In some sections, it seemed every other structure housed someone's studio or gallery; what an amazing amount of concentrated creativity.
Traversing Commercial Street is an excellent way to begin one's immersion into Provincetown.

Interesting

By JacoCl |

Many small shops catering for every taste.
Interesting to watch the people. I have spent a long time sitting in the shade at the local fresh produce market watching the passersby. What an interesting site.

Soak up the flavor and local color

By Cape-SoCal |

Fun walk. Great people watching. There is something for everyone. Shopping. Restaurants. Art studios. Etc etc. great architecture!!

People Watching at its Finest

By dml14132 |

So much fun walking down this street and poking into the shops (a bit pricey but not unexpected), stopping into a restaurant with a street front view, or sitting on a bench watching the world go by. Grab a coffee on a patio and see the sights!

Very good

By Ivan Tsanev |

One of my favorite places on entire Cape Cod. Every summer I'm here for at least a day. In the area you can find a lot of good local businesses

Still has charm

By MTI-n-NYC |

It is now a mask up zone, so we felt safe, but it was by far the busiest place I’ve been since the pandemic began in March (and I live & work in NYC) If you miss people watching and crowds, but want to stay safe, this is kind of the jam. It was a nice change, and everyone had mask (with police nicely enforcing it, and free mask being given out) The stores aren’t as crowded as usual, they have parties wait while others shop. There are several nice outside dinning options with more spacious seating than previous years. We had a meal, went to shops, went on a whale watch and never felt unsafe- it is promising that we can all work to protect each other. P Town has actually gotten even better in my eyes, and I always found it to be pretty amazing begin with.

Something for everyone

By Gregory W |

Such a warm and welcoming place with shops and treats at every turn. You won't go but a few steps till something new and exciting pops up. From clothes, food, jewelry, and people watching it is a great place to spend a day or two.

Life is so SWEET

By Mobile522346 |

Interesting! Several dispensaries, liquor stores, restaurants and CLEAN public restrooms.
Convenient and dependable shuttles from town to most lodgings. Best old time restaurant that you can count on is the MAYFLOWER. Trolly and sand dune tours, great bicycle paths. Watch AMAZING people!

Myriad of sights and smells to temp!

By Robyn F |

Commercial Street has something for everyone. There are plenty of shops, art galleries, restaurants, a great Portuguese bakery, great jewelry shops, marine specialty shop, and more!

Nicely decorated at Halloween

By Burkhard042 |

Of course, Provincetown changes with the seasons. If you like it really crowded go there on a weekend during summer. We prefer autumn season and visited P-town end of October. Parking was very easy at the Town Hall. Many tourist businesses had reduced their hours or had already closed. Therefore strolling along Commercial Street was so relaxing. The houses were decorated beautifully for Halloween and you had the real New England feeling.

Beach town

By BLMerce |

I’m not fond of beach towns, but I did shop and found some sakes as this was end of the season. The pier was lovely with cottages for artisans. Kids were happy we saw seals by the boats. Had a bite to eat at The Lobster Pot.

Great place to shop and eat

Thoroughly enjoyed several hours walking around town and out several piers. Located the ferry service locations for Boston - awesome! We really enjoyed the variety and uniqueness of the shops and eateries.

Just like the name, commercial

By elindoo |

Definitely a tourist trap. Lots of shops, mostly over priced merchandise, but always nice to take a look. Glad we were here 1st of May, I'd hate to see this in mid summer

Quintessential PTown!

By KeithLampmanPerlman |

What can one really say about Commercial Street? From the East End to the West End, Commercial Street is the epicenter of what is synonymous with Provincetown (PTOWN) - over-the-top fun after dark, with shopping and fabulous art galleries (mostly East End), all day. During the day, their is everything a tourist would want, from fine dining to very casual (even walk-up) to fine dining and drinking. During high season (July and August) it's VERY crowded but fun to visit.

Over the top to fill your senses!

By Helen711 |

Every kind of shop/ store available. This was an artist's colony in the '20s, and it continues in that tradition with Bohemian owners and customers. Lots of restaurants and gift shops to enjoy yourself. Predominantly a gay community.

It's like another world

By Vicky B |

As a preteen going to p'town was an adventure, all the spiffy shops along Commerical Street calling out to come on in. In I went, the jewerly shops where I have left lots of money for unique designs that still hug my heart as I near my nineties. The busy hotdog stand on the corner of Commercial Street and the pier with pigeons hovering by waiting for a treat from the many tourists, still fills me with the love of stinkee fish boats and the sound of water splashing on the pilings that holding up the pier. Best memories Commercial Street is a special place to find and keep in your heart.

Such an amazing place

By Alex H |

Wow! Commercial Street is incredible! We all loved it - you can just be who you want to be and it’s beautiful. Loads of great shops, bars, restaurants, amazing sea views - I just love the vibe of this place so much. We will be back!

Great place to stroll

By dermgoddess |

Great place to people watch, eat, drink, shop or just stroll. Lovely sunny day in June.., not too crowded (okay the stay at home order had been lifted 4 days before)

very happy street

By CLA |

We had so much fun, great stores and energy. A lot of wonderful people, street performers were great!!!

There's no way to avoid it anyway, so enjoy it!

By Elizabeth L |

You have to walk Commercial Street - if you can walk from East End to West End, you'll get a taste of the different sections of Provincetown and start to understand why we locals appreciate it so much. Provincetown has many layers, many things to offer.

Having said THAT, once you get AWAY from town, just a LITTLE bit, you really will see why we love it so much. It doesn't take much effort to remove yourself from the crowds.

Wishing you, dear reader, a great visit.

Typical "been-there" stop on your checklist

By Rich G |

Typical, typical, typical tourist spot, sprinkled with flourish of rainbow flags. Typical small gift shops, typical busy streets & water-front boardwalks, typical seafood & ice cream shanties...on the otherhand, long drive from bottom of the Cape all the way up...Yep, another box checked off my list.

Peaceful and beautiful

By Audrey |

Commercial Street is bright and lively with an air of love and acceptance. Just a peaceful and beautiful place. Caroline's had the best lobster roll. Sweet and juicy. Locals were friendly and helpful. Connors Car Care helped me when no one else would. Oh, and the Knack was surprisingly good and not overly expensive. Great time - definitely going back!

Artsy community

By Cadbanker |

Visited downtown Provincetown to check out the arts scene. Lots of interesting shops and galleries. The face mask enforcers, even when outside, were a bit much. Very busy and good for people watching.

Fun street to walk

By Autumn M |

There are so many options on this street. It is great to walk. There are so many dining and snack options. There is shopping and a nice water view.

First time here

By Key West |

First time here. Mid October is understandably off season time. Had a beautiful day to explore especially Commercial and adjacent streets. Key West is a place we frequent almost every year for the past 20 years. People who love Key West ask (thru the Key West travel forum on TripAdvisor) if anyone knows of another destination place like Key West. I was really intrigued with Provincetown, especially around Commercial Street. It reminded me of Key West (Duval Street/Old Town) so much so it really made my day! The hidden/tucked away restaurants, shops, venues gave me the feeling of timelessness. There were a lot of small cobblestone/brick alleys leading to some hidden treasure at the other end. A lot of history in this town. Provincetown, for me, is a place we will revisit and most likely enjoy. Even though is resembles and exceeds Key West visually, it lacks the island traits Key West is known for. Overall, really enjoyed our visit!

If you're from Kansas, get ready! This ain't your mama's Kansas!

By jdcBoston_Ma |

It is a wonderful, wide open town, where tolerance is the operative word. This is truly a live and let live and ENJOY each other community. I love visiting, walking, eating and mingling on Commercial St. The rest of the town is great too, Something for everyone, everyday!!

Galleries, restaurants, stores, so much to see

By itwasfunwhileitlaste |

Fantastic place to window shop and people watch. Not a chain store in sight--just what you hope for when you travel.

Nice visit even with COVID-19 pandemic!

By DocDiastole |

We have not been to P-Town in over 25 years! It has really expanded. For the most part (99%?) of the visitors were masked. 100% of staff seemed masked. Our kids were struck by how friendly everyone seemed. Enjoyed the variety of stores and food. Some wait to get into stores due to maintaining reduced occupants for social distancing. Lunch and dinner at two highly rated spots were terrific. A fun day! (Great place to people watch—albeit “masked” people!)

Nice place to walk around

By itseng_angel |

We like the place because there’s a lot going on. Make sure you go during warmer season or else you’ll not be able to explore the area. Recommend family, couples, and friends to check the place out.

Fun lively place

By Valerie O |

Commercial Street is a must when visiting Provincetown. Lots of nice shops, galleries and restaurants, mixed in with a few touristy shops, ice cream and candy shops, etc. it’s very eclectic. The main part of it is only about 1 to 1 1/2 miles long, so easily walkable. There are also plenty of pedicabs if you need one. Most people are walking or riding bikes. Cars are allowed to drive one way down it, but it’s really too crowded for that.

Nice Change from Classic Cape Cod

By robert-not-home |

It's Provincetown! Not sure what I can add, Provincetown is a fun, unique place to visit. Not classic Cape Cod. Has it's own vibe and a great place to stroll around. I prefer off season as much easier to navigate the streets.

Daytrip

By C H |

Never a loss for things to do and people to watch in Commercial St. Busy, festive and full of life on summer days. Lots of shopping or window shopping to be done. Galleries galore. Don’t forget the well air conditioned and beautifully curated PAAM!! The highlight of our stroll!

Wondertown

By Maverly R |

Lovely strip of downtown Provincetown. Shops stores restaurants galleries kiosks show centers it has everything and you are only a few steps from the shore. we keep on going back to our favorite town❤️

Great Bohemian Experience

By tom m |

Love the many shops and restaurants along Commercial street. Unlike any other street I'm familiar with anywhere in the world. Love the unusual window displays and paint schemes and the eclectic merchandise and art. Don't miss the Friday evening gallery walk. Truly a unique Bohemian experience.

Cape Cod in the Fall

By WanderlustNYC71 |

Not as crowded as during prime season but most establishments and such were still open, gearing for the end of the season. Lots of shopping, restaurants and places to see.

Eclectic

By devonroamer |

What a lovely place, it has got it all, from quaint to in your face, cosy to big atmosphere, anything you want, you can get here. So interesting to stroll along and browse.

Fun shops and eateries

By ChrisB |

Nice to shop and talk especially on a nice weather day. Lots of shopping varieties and eateries, with gorgeous views of the water.

Mandatory Mask Zone

By Sunrise Seeker |

Of course, during a global pandemic with so many restrictions, my first visit to the famous Commercial Street was not as exciting as I would’ve hoped. It is a mandatory mask zone and 99% of visitors complied. Still plenty to do and see.

Super fun! New discoveries every day.

By TiffanyMS8 |

LOVE Commercial street shopping. Discover treasures old and new every time we visit Provincetown. Never gets old! Great food, shopping, and entertainment.

Nice

By RGM1977 |

It’s been a while. Reminded of main st at Disney world. Very crowded. Lots of shops. Stay off commercial unless u need to be there.

Flamboyant

By Ppoupore |

Commercial street today was so busy, so colorful, and so delightful with enticing shops, many eateries, interesting people, happy friendly ambiance and so many dogs to pet. It is GREAT

Great Fun

By Deb C |

The shops, the restaurants & the atmosphere are all terrific! Although the streets are quite crowded it's easy to drive if you take it slow

Fun People Watching

By 1039 |

Great street for people watching, several food choices, ice cream, entertainment, bike riding, etc etc

Best of PTown

By Den |

A great place for people watching and having fun. There are lots of shops (some quite good), art galleries, restaurants and bars.

Site seeing, shopping.

By Tracy F |

Was not impressed with the area. Very expensive and very competitive. The store owners were friendly and helpful. The police that patrolled the area were professional. There was very few places to park. Parking was way too expensive. I don't think we'll go back.

Fun time

By Pat S |

Very busy. Lots of shops and restaurants. Public parking lots are expensive. But I do feel it’s worth going Atleast once in a lifetime

To see

By Verabovo |

Beautiful colorful street full of local shops and restaurants. Also present street artists. There is a cheap parking two streets up 5 minutes walk

High energy fun!

By Capemama4 |

Commercial Street has such a great energy. Whether you are young or old, single or coupled, gay or straight, there is something for everyone from honkey tonk to high end, ice cream to 5 Star dining.

A great "commercial" break!

By Gregory A |

From the quaint coffee shops, galleries, locally owned stores, and delightful galleries, Commercial Street has a charm and wonderfulness that is VERY rare to find in this world of chain stores, restaurants, and coffee houses. The shopkeepers are kind and friendly and always open for a chat no matter how busy it is. The ONLY issue I have with this street is that cars are allowed in the midst of bicycles and pedestrians on a street that is already challenging spatially. Otherwise, just a glorious road with lots to look at and do!

The center of it all

By Big Mike |

If you are visiting p-town for the first time this is the best place for people watching and finding stores that are both economical and high-end. Plenty of eating options as well

Good Fudge

By Chip0414 |

We went to the Penney Patch fudge shop after tasting samples at their competition across the street that was NOT good and were pleasantly surprised to find the product, while just across the street was a world apart. Owner is an interesting guy who spent 4 years in the "real world" of financial planning before "coming home" to take over the family business. I was very surprised not to be able to find an independent listing for this shop on your website. Hope this review gets included because it's a great take!!

So many stores

By papsj |

We love walking up and down Commercial Street. So many stores to choose from. This was our first visit with our pups. They seemed to loved it as much as we do!

The place to be.

By 🛶🏕🍷🍸🍹 |

Narrow street, tons of pedestrians, lots of shops restaurants and bars. Cool place to hang out. It’s also great for people watching

fun to walk & shop!!

By John M |

Store owners were very friendly & helpful, bought Prayer Flags at one & browsed a lot of them, fun time just looking for things. Got one cute T-Shirt as well. A lot of folks but fun, all wear masks in this part of town.

See All

By Adam |

Commercial street is prime time for people watching. Here you see just about everything from drag queens to daddies. Tons of art galleries, clubs and restaurants makes this a unique experience that can be very crowded.

Leisure stroll on Wednesday night

By Sharron R |

Hadn’t been to ptown in years and never at night . Nice mix of people on this particular evening . Many shops open and pleasant welcoming. Shop owners very pleasant even for the window / browsers . Great way to spend s summer night .

Something for Everyone

By Carol Ann J |

Commercial Street has something for everyone visiting the area. There are many shops and restaurants, and it is convenient to parking lots in town. The colorful buildings, architecture, and flowers are very inviting. The only negative thing is that some of the sidewalks on the street are quite narrow. It would be great if that section was only open to pedestrians during the busy season.

Easy to walk

By ginamiller0763 |

You can find all kinds of food and shopping here. Easy to walk from our hotel. You can park at the pier all day for $20 if needed. Great people watching here!

A lot

By Birgitta-Kenneth |

If you wanna eat, drink, shop, party or just walk around this is the place to be in P-Town. Loads of things to see and do and "the street" to be in this town.

Colourful

By Andy L |

We found it very entertaining walking up & down commercial street you see all sorts of people enjoying themselves and going about their own business.
We only say it in daylight but they say to see it in it's glory you must go after dark.

Restaurant, stores and no parking

By Always Sunny Travel Agency |

We wanted to visit and had a hard time finding parking. Once we did we paid.

It was nice walking around but I don't think cars should be allowed to driver as people walk in the street because of how crowded it is.

I experienced once and may or may not be back.

Just another tourist trap.

By David H |

The streets were narrow very crowded and sidewalks, not there so you compete with motor traffic. Just one junk shop after another and very over priced food. To me, not really worth the money and trouble.

Lots of shops

By Dave6689 |

Gift and Thrifty shops abound. Prices were high for the most part. Parking is a major problem. People were very nice. Not a lot to do here.

Fun!

By jmestyle |

This area of the cape is totally different than the rest of the cape. It’s very busy and lots to see and do. Lots of shops and restaurants. Has a key west feel to it. I love visiting.

Everyone always seems to be having fun here.

By Todd W |

Doesn't matter if you're gay or straight, people a super friendly and all are welcome. I think Provincetown could be one of the happiest places in the world.

Good shopping.Crowded.Himalayan store is great. Taco/hot dog stand is great

By n0ah258 |

Gotta go down Commercial St to experience Ptown. Shops, restaurants, shady places to sit. Just about everything you'd be looking for is here

Rainbow

By moooonriver |

Very nice street... on the one hand because you can walk there which is rare in the United States, plus it's charming. Extremely well decorated, there are plenty of shops and restaurants that highlight the culture of the city with LGBT colors

Great fun

By Joyce Brown |

Beautiful beaches surround the Main Street were you can just sit and watch the world go by. The atmosphere is great and such a variety of people to keep you interested for hours. Busy but not uncomfortable, well worth a visit.

So much fun!

By Kathi V |

Commercial Street is great because of all the galleries and other stores. No chain stores here! Great people watching. Good restaurants. Definitely will go again!

Fun people, fun shops, great restaurants

By ladybugpug |

My family loved Commercial Street. We walked the whole of it at least 4 times during our trip to Provincetown. Nice and diverse group of people. There are many good restaurants and tons of great shops (mostly touristy stuff). Parking is pricey at $20 dollars a day. I highly recommend the ice cream at The Nut House and my husband and daughters were obsessed with Scottcakes (cupcakes). We walked down to the wharf to see the boats and saw two seals playing in the water.

Such atmosphere and so many shops and restaurants

By Hooked_on_travel77 |

Always a highlight for us. From shopping to outstanding eating this area just makes our trip and makes you smile. There is nothing like the atmosphere here with the harbor just 1 block away. Key West used to be the only thing close to P-town but it became too commercial with too many chains. Provincetown is special.

Very cool street for people watching, shopping and eating!

By betti14 |

This is one of the funnest streets on the planet! Whether it be off-season for a romantic and scenic getaway and shopping, or in-season for some off beat people watching and great nightlife you have come to the right place. The restaurants are great too. Experience a different lifestyle than most other places you've ever been and enjoy!

The streets are filled with lovely shops

By Rhonda H |

Lots of eclectic shopping and there will be something for everyone in this small town. Merchants are friendly and they all have a story to share - enjoyed my stay in P-town

Lots of action

By Rosemary S |

Plenty of stores to browse in, many restaurants. All kinds of people walking along the street . A lively place to be.

You have got to go!!

By our20th |

Wow, this is one crazy place. If you love to people watch and see all the sights and sounds of a happy place then you have to experience this. This long street and the surrounding areas are like Duval Street in Key West. The gay community certainly provides a great deal of entertainment to be enjoyed.
There is huge array of restaurants and gift shops to choose from as well as a great deal of history.
Be sure to check out the huge sailboat inside the library!!!!

Busy on a beautful day

By Patricia S |

Enjoyed browsing and lunch. Stopped for coffee outside. Friendly vibe. Masks required even when walking outside. Store owners maintain low numbers and/or sell their goods outside or curbside. Felt safe and fun. Love this area.

Wonderful browsing location

By Linda Q |

The shops along Commercial Street are among my favorite to stroll and shop in. From the HRC store to Kiehls to Womencrafts there is something for everyone. This includes kitschy stores, art galleries, the post office, and Lands End hardware store that carries literally everything. The Wired Puppy has great coffee and tea. And of course the public library is also located here. They always have books and DVDs for sale as well as great displays and a ship in the middle of the second and third floors. Head for Commercial Street and be entertained for the whole day.

Great for one dsy

By mharris10715 |

Great shops and great places to eat. I’ve been coming to ptown for 22 years now and I love going downtown! Just enough for one day on commercial street, then
Your done

crowded and small streets

By cloudindarkness |

We found this to be a good place to just walk up and down the street watching people, Food choices were limited due to the time of the year we were there so if possible get to restaurants before 7.

Fantastic people watching

By Ayser |

We recommend Commercial Street for the people watching and the variety of stores and cafes. Unfortunately with covid , some places are closed. But compared to the rest of the world, it is still an active and vibrant area.

Lovely place

By Jo H |

We had a lovely day and found the atmosphere to be really pleasant. Everyone we met was friendly and relaxed. It was quite busy but we managed to park at the harbour for $20 for the day. Not cheap but hassle free. Plenty of lovely shops for mementos as well as places to eat. After a stroll around the streets we stopped off at the beach for a bit of time soaking up the sun. A really lovely day. We travelled a king qay to get there but glad we made the effort. Would happily return one day.

NE Seaside Artsy village is where Boardwalk meets Main Street. And it is not a Bored walk!

By Melody S |

If you are more familiar with Mid Atlantic Boardwalk towns, this is NE's answer. Framed by art galleries and Inns, this is uniquely the heart of Ptown. Restaurants and Entertainment, shops and shows, sunset cruises and whale watches a block off Commercial -a stroll down Commercial Street is always a festival of sights and depending on the season, sounds.

And of course there is a roster of shops, from specialty leather and jewelry to thrift and antiques to hardware. Colorful shopfronts and alleys share real estate with stately Victorian buildings and cottages with gardens that take full advantage of even limited space. Don't like the crowds of summer? Then go in the offseason and meander. There will still be some shops open, and restaurants and of course the harbor calling and visible between the buildings.

Eclectic fun

By Deborah G |

Provincetown is unique and Commercial Street is no exception. Cafes, restaurants and shops abound. You can find bargain and high end jewelry along this street. It’s the heart of P-Town. The variety of food choices is quite impressive. Many of the inns and hotels are on Commercial or only a block over. We will be back for sure!!

Cute town

By Kim R |

Loved all the little shops, cute restaurants! We walked up and down Commercial Street! Stopped in for coffee and cookies in a darling bakery!

A Happening

By Robert F |

There is so much to see on this street. People watching is fun but don't miss getting into the buildings. The UU building is a must see.

For adults only!

By DavidandElaine |

Very fun and interesting. The culture is Gay Pride and very fun and extravagant. Everyone is friendly and accepting . Think Key West x 10. Great restaurants, beautiful buildings, lively night scene. This is an awesome place for all adults!

The busy street

By WorcesterMoray |

As its title says this is the commercial area of province town.
Very busy with bars/restaurants and many shops/galleries.
Parking is close by as is the beach and harbour area.

Family Vacation

By Jeffrey M |

Excellent street fair vendors with high quality merchandise.
plenty of stores and niche shops to visit. Great scenery next to the oceana nd fishing vessels in port.
beautiful location. FIlled with many unique culinary choices as well.

Vehicles should be banned

By CaseyfromBoston |

Other than perhaps a few early morning hours, vehicles should be banned from the center-town area. So many walkers and bikers make it interesting and the area is plenty small enough to walk.

First visit in a long time.

By triplejg |

Our group of 6 visited P town for the first time in 25 years. I must say we were disappointed. Lots of tacky trinket shops for of foreign goods. We had 2 meals there and both were undistinguished. A few good galleries were the only interesting spots.

1st visit to Ptown

By kflan57 |

Way too much going on, people walking, biking, skateboarding, skating and car a bit fast for a street that narrow. Oh! also, people with suitcases getting off the ferries! The weekday was ok, the weekend there is a bit of a hustle going on, handing flyers, asking what kind on cream you use on your skin??!! I usually avoid “Main Streets” for that reason.

A long street of fun

By KMR |

Commercial Street is a long street of just all types of fun. There are various shops, restaurants, bars, beaches, piers, specialty stores, jewelry and souvenir stores, cute places to get a really nice cup of coffee and delicious desserts, friendly locals, fun things to do and see; it is just very exciting and fun. I recommend going down the street multiple times, stopping in different places and going at all different types of the day to see and meet and experience different things. It is bunches of fun.

Vacation

By Dawn K |

Although we are in a pandemic and places have been closed, I would have thought that the shop owners and locals would have cleaned the place up but we found it dirty and uninviting. It was pricey. If you do go, go to Cuffy's quality merchandise and reasonably.

Commercial Street is the heart of Provincetown!

By Caron G |

What can I say, so many great restaurants and galleries AND you can even put your feet into the ocean nearby if you want. And, of course, it's a great place to people watch!

Off season great experience

By C-Z-1982 |

Visiting Provincetown off season. Highly recommended. Street and shops accessible, friendly vendors. Shops range from higher end clothing and furniture stores to hippy, kids stuff, and memorabilia stores. Several coffee shops, bars, and restaurants complete the experience. Also Commercial street is never far from the water, some of the stores and bars go all the way to the beach. A real nice experience that will entertain you for several hours. And then you go back in the evening for dinner!

Under construction

By jimkler |

The beach was closed during the offseason to work on the parking lot. Typically it is a great place to see a sunset. Or fly a kite. There's always a breeze going through there.

The winds of change have arrived again in Ptown, but it's going to be okay

By mindanao15 |

From turn-of-the-20th-century fishing village and artist colony to mid-century LGBT refuge to 21st-century playground for the moneyed class (both LGBT and straight families as well as high-end art patrons and the artists and gallery owners hoping to sell to them), Ptown is again reshaping its lands-end persona. This moneyed class is LGBT-friendly though, so everything's going to be fine... unless you're a townie who can't afford to live here anymore.

Shops, restaurants and more shops and restaurants

By tinaNtravel |

Of course, you need to visit Commercial Street. It is packed with tourist shops, restaurants, ice cream shops, bakeries, etc. I would suggest you don’t spend your entire time in Ptown on Commercial Street. Check out the Sand dunes area or the area around Province Lands Visitor Center to see a bit of the nature too.

Nothing Like it in America

By Remycub |

Commercial street during Carnival is a fantastic place to walk. It's fun seeing everyone dressed up in their costumes. There are families of all ages and nationalities. It's wonderful that you can walk down the street and not be bothered by too many cars. Everyone seems to be happy and having a good time in Provincetown!

Go Now

By KenG01 |

Just returned from Ptown, Commercial Street is unbelievable, busy with hungry people stopping in so many restaurants, art galleries, and many other shops. A very narrow st for all the people and little parking. A great suggestion is find a rental in town so that you can walk everywhere. A few days is not enough to see everything and to enjoy all the great eating locations.

Great street to walk

By BlaineDB |

I am one of those guys out for a morning stroll every time I visit Ptown, and this is one of the walks

Going from the center of town into the West End, the views can surprise

Walk to the end by the Provincetown Inn and the beginning of the breakwater, or check out the park in the rotary, and walk back - it's about 3 miles round-trip.

Nice and eclectic town.

By FinClan |

Our tweens enjoyed the walks, scenery, and food... lots of icecream! Us adults enjoyed the bar scene and nightlife as well.

COLORFUL....AND THEN SOME!

By billcarp |

This is the spot you want to secure in order to watch the goings-on in P-town. Especially during "Carnivale" or "Pride week". Quaint, historical, colorful and educational, are just some of the descriptive adjective that come to mind. Definitely you want this on your "bucket list".

Full of fun

By RandM281211 |

You simply cant get bored being here in summer. We happen to be there during bear week and boy its a great fun and laugh. First visit in Ptown and i loved every moment of it!

What a time to be had!

By mcewanapcal |

Commercial Street is a wonderful experience. There's so much to do with or without the children. There's art studios, food venues, well watching, retail therapy, and much much more. P-town is home away from home, a place to just sit down and relax. Or better yet, get on a bike and ride up and down commercial Street for the best views of an interact with the best kind of people.

Fun, fun, fun

By REDCAC |

Provincetown is the best and most accepting place in the world. There are so many great restaurants and shops.

The East End of The Cape

By bbbob84 |

When you have driven the entire length of The Cape you will find yourself in Provincetown. Commercial Street is the main street dotted with shops, eateries, bars, memorabilia shops, galleries and so much more. It is one of the largest downtown districts on The Cape along with Hyannis. We shopped many of the local stores and bought some memorabilia. We also enjoyed drinks and food in a couple of the local places. Indoor and Outdoor dining in most of the establishments. Many with great water views. People watching if you enjoy that. Parking can be challenging in season. Worth the trip.

Cutest street, with lots of shopping!

By Katie K |

There was so many cute shops, food, and art along this street! Also a lot of people had their pups with them, and stores welcomed them in. We would have went on a whale tour too, but the waves were too rough! Great find in cape cod!

A casual stroll inviting window shopping and people watching

By ejospe |

Great re-entry into civilization after lockdown! Every shop owner was friendlier than the next, delicious food everywhere, and true to New England, ice cream on every corner. The sidewalks are narrow so you end up spilling in the street but drivers are slow, it’s one way, and everyone is patient. Great resort town and yet feels authentic to the locals.

Wonderful stroll

By Maria D |

Great afternoon spent shopping, having lunch, and then ice cream with the family. We really enjoyed meandering the streets.

Fun street to walk

By Autumn M |

There are many restaurants and shops along the street. It's beautifully located right next to the water. It's a fun place to people watch.

So quiet on a midweek day in November

By Northern_Traveler00 |

visited early in Thanksgiving week, Commercial street was SO quiet. 2/3 shops and galleries were closed and pretty much every restaurant, too.

parking was easy, and the weather was nice, so we got a good walk in, but tough to see all the empty spaces and closed for the season spots

Stroll from end to end

By 19Monkey66 |

A wonderful stretch of road that is more pedestrian than auto traffic. Walking and biking are popular along the street that runs West end to East end with musems, shops, guesthouses, theaters, residences and restaurants. Pay heed to a bicyle bell as they speed by. Best to not drive Commercial Street if you dont have to. It can be congested with foot traffic, more so on weekends and during the high season. Beach access is limited but worth exploring the Cape.

We landed there during a gay pride carnival

By SandraDee_22 |

A little edgy. Red shoes are definitely "in".
We were entertained by males in drag singing a capella on the street corner. Ok if you are LGBT. Not so great if you are not.
Apparently Provincetown is known for this. I didn't know. Not judging. Just saying it isn't my cup of tea. The town itself is lovely and there are some fun shops.

Great take in for an afternoon

By lsmith1338 |

Great place to sight see, shop, eat and have a few cocktails. Lots of restaurants, stores and bars. Summer can get quite crowded and even though you walk down the street, cars are still using it as well, but they are used to the crowds and will not run you down. Prices are high in the summer but you could still get something special there to remember you trip. Restaurants are also expensive as that is when they make their money, it is a ghost town in the winter. All in all I have been going there for years and look forward to it whenever I can get there. Would recommend.

So many things to see!

By teec159 |

Love commercial street! So many cute stores and beautiful art and great restaurants! There are a couple of parking lots but best to walk around. Our B&B has parking so we just walked. Fun to sit outside, enjoy some gelato, and watch the cute dogs! 😃

the place to see and be seen

By kbatlanta |

shopping , eating , entertainment, clubs at night- and galleries at the end. the main thing to do in town

Crowded and narrow

By 63impala |

We checked out Commercial street in off peak (thank god). I cant imagine how crowded it gets in peak time. There are a lot of shops and restaurants to check out. Parking can be a nightmare so if you want a good spot, get there early. Its a one way street so keep that in mind too

Busy and Fun!

By Margaret M |

I've been to a lot of "Main Streets" and this is my favorite by far. A fabulous mix of tacky, fancy and funky. It's super busy and kind of crowded but the mood is so happy that it's worth it. We walked the length of Commercial Street, popping in and out of shops and checking out the guest houses for our next visit. Bikes would make the trip even better.

The heart of Provincetown

By Autumn M |

I love to walk up and down this street. It's fun to people watch. There are numerous restaurants and places to get drinks. There are coffee and ice cream places and plenty of shopping. The street runs along the water for beautiful views

Fun and eclectic

By JanC377 |

We always like to wander down Main St if we are in MA ( we are from U.K.). It’s fun and every building is different . This year we were lucky as no cruise ships docking ! I guess it could be purgatory in high season but early on a mid week day in October it wasn’t that busy .
Ofcourse there are shops selling tourist “tat” , that’s to be expected , but there are some quality places and we bought another superb print from an art gallery and tasteful jewellery in another shop .
It’s fun.
We parked on the rotary at the far end for free and walked in so we saw a range of residential properties too .

A fun Time !

By James G |

safe, clean and fun ! People just being free and being themselves with respect for others. A lot of shops of different styles and merchandise. Must stop in and see the BEST art gallery Albert Merola, where the owners are friendly and showcase up and coming as well as established artists. Many restaurants to choose from as well. thankfully no chain fast food.

Very busy

By EFW2014 |

Not sure why anyone would drive in the downtown section of commercial street. It’s narrow and people are everywhere.

Lots of shops and restaurants along the street. Don’t forget the side streets and alleys.

Watch out for cars!

Lotsa the Usual

By LoafJugThouTree |

The street is so long with so many stores (sweats and tees, jewelry, fine art, dispensaries, icky beach clothing, etc.) and restos. Visually, it's fun. Physically, walking it is good exercise after a big meal. Otherwise, it's kind of boring, made better by a drink or two, especially at a seaside bar.

Good vibes nice people

By orcho |

A nice town to walk and have an ice cream with the ocean view. Worth the drive only if you are already in the cape.

Only place to be in Provincetown

By Mxpaolo |

In all honesty this is the only place to be In Provincetown.

Walk the street from End to end and you will complete your daily step allowance.

Packed full of bars, shops restaurants it’s the place to promenade and be seen or just watch as the world goes by.

Commercial Street, something for everyone !

By Bob B |

We've been going to Ptown for over 40 years. This little gem of a Cape Cod town offers some of the best shops and restaurants in the area. Commercial Street is the host to a very unique shopping and dinning experience. The landscape is just simply beautiful !

beautiful,

By Papar |

As I said before the Commercial street is beautiful. it couldn't be better than that for a very small town like Provinstown.

Never boring

I simply LOVE being in the center of town! The galleries are lovely, the shops are fantastic, the restaurants are yummy, bars are welcoming, and there are many places to sit and enjoy the summer beachy air and people watch. I've found everyone in Provincetown to be open to chit chat and small talk. It's really a happy town, and I love to see people with their children enjoying the differences among people in a place where everyone can be themselves. I always feel safe taking a walk around town whether I'm with my parter or by myself. I can't wait to visit again! Enjoy!
