The tour was more than expecting. Our tour guide,Taylor, was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. Gold panning was a learning experience I wouldn’t miss. Three of us then shared a amazing super bucket of gem mining dirt and took home three bags of stones. Make sure you talk to the stone cutter who has beautiful cut and set stones.

This place is great!! We visited on a recent GA Mtn. trip and really enjoyed the mine! The guides are very knowledgeable and present in a way that kept everyone engaged. We've been in many caves, but never a real gold mine so this was both fun and educational for our family. The panning for gold was fun, my grandson found the most in our group, he had 4 pieces. We got the $50 bucket of gems to share and everyone ended up with a good amount of gemstones, I even found an emerald.

Our tour guide was so much fun. We loved seeing and learning about the mines. I had no idea how neat it would be. My 10 year old is still talking about it!

Waterfall hiking was a bust seems like privatizing waterfalls in Georgia is a thing we weren't aware of but we found this gem no pun intended and it was so fun. The guide made us laugh and was so nice. We panned forgot afterward it was a great way to save what day we had left so glad we came. Kids and adults of all age will love it. Staff was great.

We had Kennedy as our guide and she made the tour a 5! You would never know she was relatively new to the job as she was comfortable in her spiel, and had great rapport with the 9 year old in the group. Her humor was spot on and not too “hokey.” She answered questions with ease, and kept the group moving. Loved her. She’s a keeper!

We loved our experience and will take our grandchildren back when they are old enough to enjoy. Such a nice staff and very helpful. Not as vigorous as you would think although there are a few stairs and one steep hill going back out.

We had a great time on the tour! Chris was a super guide! Very informative, would answer any questions, you don't feel rushed at all. Did the gem bucket and got a couple pieces of jewelry made, Mike was very helpful and took his time to explain everything to us. Very reasonable prices and great staff. A must stop if in the area!!

We took our son to pan for gold. We did the walk through tour and our Guide John was amazing. We learned a lot about the area thanks to the tour, and had a blast as a family. Highly recommend.

First rate staff, everyone was very helpful. Our tour guide Miner Cam was informative and humorous. He even helped us sort through our gems after the tour. Well worth the time and money.

An enjoyable, educational guided tour into a real mine. The history was fun to learn. We had fun panning for gold and gems. My husband and I shared a bucket of sand and rocks and by the time we completed sifting through it, we ended up with so many gems is raw form. Look forward to going back.

This place is as pretty cool! We took a tour of the gold mine. Then panned for gold at the end. A great trip For kids and adults

We live in Dahlonega and had friends in from out of state. We started with the Gold Museum and then went to Consolidated Gold Mine
The whole experience was exceptional. Nolan was our guide; informative, stressed safety and history. The true stories of the miners.
We panned for Gold and the staff are super helpful
Then did the gem $ 50 bucket, and had so much fun! The exciting part is finding out what you have.
We were on a bit of a time schedule; so we’ll go back with our gemstones and decide what to cut and polish.
It is easy to see what this is the highest rated activity in Dahlonega. From the moment you walk in, friendly, informative, polite staff that this experience exceptional.
Can’t wait to go back with other family members.
World class fun! Don’t miss it

This is a typical tourist and fun thing to do. Does have some interesting history about the mine and miners. You do have to go down a good many stairs but not anything to difficult unless you have a problem with stairs. Did the tour and the gold panning that was included with the price. They do offer a gemstone panning at an additional charge but didn’t do this. Also have a gift shop with inexpensive kids souvenirs to expensive jewelry.

Our class visited the Consolidated Gold Mine. The Miner Tour Guides are great! They REALLY know the history of the era and do their best to make sure students are having a great time while touring the mine. Students loved sifting through the sand to get unique gems and rocks. The store and some fun gifts for them to purchase as well. Our principal has approved this field trip 4 years in a row, and I hope this field trip will be available and approved for future students to come! This trip offers quality learning of our state's history and landmarks.

Was a great tour with lots of information about the mine and the area. Was frightened by a copperhead but Praise the Lord it didn't bite anyone. Comical guide which just made the tour so nice.

Two grown adults visited and had a great time! My husband and I visited August 2021 after I saw the mine online. It reminded me of the trips to the mountains my family and I made when I was a kid so for nostalgia's sake, we decided to make the drive to Consolidated Gold Mine. Instead of a cheap roadside gem 'mine' though, we entered a rustic building full of very friendly staff. The tour started with gold panning. There were several very attentive staff members ready to help or answer questions when needed. Next was the mine tour. So cool! Our guide was Miner Jay and he was very informative and actually looked as though he enjoyed being there with us... which has not been my experience other places. I would not suggest going with small children; maybe 6 to 7 years and older. There isn't a lot to keep small kids interested and being down in the mine can be intimidating to them. After the tour, we purchased a gem bucket. Again, the staff members were attentive and available to assist at any time. I bought the $30 bucket and I would not have gotten half of the stones I did for that much at a crystal or gem shop. All around we had a great time and will definitely be going back.

Tour was worth the money.
Guide was very engaging. Panning for spoked gold was a novelty. Got a few flakes of gold and a ruby. Dress warm 55 degrees 20 stories down. They are clearing more of the mine so next yr be even. Bigger

This place is truly awesome. My 9 and 12 year old kids loved it and it was neat for the adults too. I would highly recommend this if you are in the area or traveling through.

Our tour guide (minor Eli) did a GREAT job!! He included everyone in the group so he made it interactive which was fun. The mine is a little wet and chilly 55*

We took the tour, panned for gold, and the grandkids did the gemstone panning option. Overall, it was a fun way to spend a few hours. The mine tour was good and the guide did a nice job explaining about the mining. We all enjoyed the gold panning, especially the grandkids. They loved finding some gold specs. They especially loved the gem stone panning and finding the various gem rocks.

A can’t miss. We had so much fun panning and gem stone panning. The tour is about 45 minutes but it is so awesome down there. You have to see this place.

Yes, even older kids will enjoy this experience!!! they were actually amazed and enjoyed going down the mine and looking for gold.

We visited with our niece and had a great time "mining" for gemstones. As we sifted through each scoop of sand from the bucket, we marveled at the colorful rocks and gemstones we found, from big chunks of amethyst to semi-precious garnets. Although we visited late in July, the gold panning and gemstone mining area was remarkably comfortable. The entire experience is covered, so you don't have to deal with rain or sweltering sun, and they have big fans to keep it cool. After we mined all our stones, we took them to the experts in the next room who told us about the treasures. We were really surprised to learn that the garnets are from North Georgia, so we had those made into jewelry to remind us of the great fun we had together. Highly recommend this activity for the whole family.

Coming to the Consolidated Gold Mines was a side trip from our week in Helen. It took about 30 minutes to get there and I’m sure glad we did. It was my favorite thing we did all week. Jason was our guide and he was the best! He is a natural speaker and very nice and interactive with kids. Not only did you get a fun and interesting thing to do, you get a history lesson too. The gold rush before the ‘49 gold rush. With the purchase of the mine tour you get to pan for gold. You can also purchase gem mining tickets but we didn’t do that.
Thank you to Jason for making this the highlight of our trip.

We enjoyed the tour very much and even got to "pan" for gold afterward!! Our tour guide was very knowledgeable!! :)

Interesting place to visit! Guide was knowledgeable and a good personality! Just pretty neat on how they mined for gold back in the day, and after the tour we got to try our luck at panning for gold, and did find a couple of small pieces, neat gift shop also, and a good history lesson!

Great tour. Miner Jay did a great job! He related things to the boys in a way that made them feel included.

Our guide Eli was incredible! This was so much fun and all the kiddos enjoyed it. The prices were super reasonable all around.

the director was very funny and he interacted with the kids. mine is beautiful and it was very fun. great place to go for a family trip. you learn very much and come back with memories that will last forever!

We had an exclusive tour with great explanations of all we saw. There were larger groups of about 8 each both sides of us, yet we were not rushed at all. Yes I would recommend it; we also enjoyed our 15 minute of gold panning. Children there seemed to really being enjoying the gem panning and playing with all their finds afterwards. Would recommend that activity for children. Gift shop offered great variety of objects too.

This place is amazing! Everyone in the staff made this atmosphere excellent for the whole family. We were super impressed! I must do

This a great gold mine and gold panning tourist event. Mikayla, our guide, was a great guide. She was professional, funny, friendly and entertaining.

We decided to take the gold mine tour and really enjoyed it. Our guide, Miner Cam, kept the tour interesting for everyone on the tour. Panning for gold at the end of the tour was fun too.

We visited with 4 teenage girls around 2 in the afternoon. Our tour started about 15 minutes later with Miner Eli. He was very personable and cheesy. We panned for gold and gem mined after the tour. Miner Cam was super helpful and friendly here. Miner D also talked to us about how they cut stones and create jewelry.

I enjoyed the tour. They keep the group down to 20 people. The tour guide keeps it fun and informative. It comes with gold panning. The staff were friendly.

The tour into the mine was fun and interesting. The panning for gold wasn't that exciting, but it was included as part of the tour.

Took kids ages 7 and 12. The tour guide was knowledgeable and gave a lot information. The kids were able to pan for gold and also gem mine. This place is miles better than the other place in town offering some of the same experiences. The gift shop prices were reasonable and the staff were all very friendly.

This place was great. We went today and went on the first yellow tour. It was so interesting. I took all of my family and also the kids and it was epic. Thank you. Would recommend so much.

CJ was a fantastic tour guide. This was a lot of fun. Highly recommend the panning and gem stone add ons.

Miner Lisa gave us a tour of the mine that was phenomenal. She was engaging, informative and fun! We learned so much about the mine and how the miners worked. The tour could not have been better. Add to that some fun gemstone mining and gold panning and you have a perfect day. We found some great gemstones and we are having a few of them cut into jewelry. Fun for all ages. Don’t miss out on this experience!

Jason, our tour guide was great! He had the best dad jokes, very interactive with the kids, very informative. My 4 kids all had a blast and learned a lot! Will definitely be back!

My 3 sons were most excited for this experience than all others on our vacay. This is fun for all ages. The employees were genuinely happy to be there and interacted with my kids in all areas. All people were friendly and courteous....a must see!

You don’t know how much you don’t know until, you go on this tour. I have much more respect for the work of miners. The tour was exciting, and just long enough to get your money’s worth, but not too long to lose the kids attention. To top it all off, we even saw a bat sleeping. We also did the panning for gold and gem mining. If you want to strike gold and get a good workout, this is the place to do it!!!

Loved it!!! I took the grand kids and they just loved it!!!!! Will and Nate, and all the staff took great care of the boys and my aging knees. It was educational and fun

My daughter and I was in the area and found this place to explore on a Rainy day from hiking. So we really enjoyed the amazing displays of rocks and gold they had. The Staff was awesome and Jason the tour guy explained everything very clearly. He was awesome with the group and had great sense humor. You also get to experience panning for Gold with the cost of the tour.

Learned a lot about the gold mining history of this area. Had a great tour guide, Jay who was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. After the tour, we got to experience panning first hand and have a keepsake of gold flakes to remember our experience. Great for all ages. Spent about one hour here on a rainy day.

My husband and I went to the area on our honeymoon 23 years ago and wanted to go back to see the similarities and differances. Our tour guide was funny, very informative, and the tour was very interesting. Lots of fun.

I didn’t think I would be too interested in going down into a mine but I was surprised that I enjoyed the tour as much as I did. Our guide was informative and had a good sense of humor. We also had fun planning for gold.

We enjoyed the tour of the mine so much. Our tour guide Eli was very knowledgeable and friendly. It was so neat to pan for gold at the end of the tour and we also did the gem mining. Very neat experience!

This is a former hard rock mine that is now just a tourist attraction. It is well done. The tour of the mine was excellent. Requires several staircases down, then back up but my aging knees were able to do it. Worth the expense and time. Took us about an hour or so including the panning.

Very fun tour. Interesting facts about the life of a miner and history of the mine. Would recommend! Miner Dylan was a great guide!

Great Family Fun. Totally worth the trip from Florda. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. I came here as a kid and so thankful to carry on to the next gen.

Heard about this place and town from a family member. Cute town and neat stop full of history and honestly, how often do you go into a once working gold mine? If you like this kind of stuff, stop and go on the tour- kids loved it.

We really enjoyed our experience here. The panning for gold was fun but the tour was the best part. Reece was a great guide and kept the whole tour (from kids to senior citizens) engaged. A fun way to spend an afternoon.

This took me by surprise I did not expect what I saw totally fascinating if you're definitely in the area I must go to and even try the panning for gold that's pretty amazing very good educational trip well worth the money

This was a great experience for all of us. Wear good traction shoes and a jacket! Tour Miner Jason was very informative and entertaining.

One year ago my husband and I visited. We had such a wonderful experience we returned again this year. Of course I had to have souvenirs. Can't wait until next year!

Kids of all ages liked this. Tourguide was excellent. Kids especially liked panning for gold and gemstone. Highly recommended.

The tour and tour guide were excellent. We really enjoyed the panning for gold and the gemstones. Everyone working there was very friendly and helpful. We plan to return.

This was a FANTASTIC experience for our family. The tour was very cool & the panning for gold was great fun, not too long, everyone got some gold & the staff was super attentive & helpful. If you have a few kids I recommend getting the $50 gem bucket for then to share as there were many large gems there. The staff then helps you sort & tells you what is of value. We would absolutely go back!

My family and I enjoyed that place. We had a great experience.
Mi familia y yo disfrutamos este lugar. Tuvimos una gran experiencia.

Had a great time and Sam was very knowledgeable and took time explaining the mining process. Definitely something fun for the entire family. We did come home with gold, but still not rich...lol.

We took our granddaughter gem mining and had a really good time. We have been to other places and thought this place offered a better value than Gatlinburg gem mining. They also have a nice gift shop and tour which we did not do. We did a five gallon bucket which yielded a lot of stones for our grandchild.

WHAT A RIP OFF! I understand businesses are in the business to make some money, BUT NOT TO TRY TO GET RICH OFF OF EACH PERSON; especially an entire family. The underground tour is COLD AND if claustrophobic do not participate. Family paid for 3 adults and 1 child and spent approximately $100 for in my opinion a vial of grainy sand ( maybe 10 granules) nothing like in the $5 gift shop vial. GREED WILL GET YOU NOWHERE. And for the wise-cracker who I complained to as I was walking away he stated "Well we make a GOOD LIVING AT THIS AND WE'VE BEEN DOING IT FOR 30 YEARS! WOW!

My daughter loves gemstones, and boy did we pick the right place to come for gem stone panning. We chose the medium ($50) bucket, which was super concentrated and loaded with many different beautiful stones, including several precious gemstones. Greg from the staff was so friendly and helpful, making our experience even more enjoyable. Another nice service was the "appraisal" of the stones that my daughter found, by Mary, educating us on our haul. Overall, a very enjoyable and memorable experience, which set our vacation off to a fantastic start!

My hubby and I daytripped to this historical GA city and the gold mine tour was great fun and reflects an important part of Georgia history. CJ, our tour guide, was an excellent blend of informative and hilarious! Afterwards, we got to try our gold panning skills in a wonderful hands-on experience to treasure.

Our tour miner Rusty was great. The mine is spectacular. We’ve seen a lot of mines and caves and this one stands against them. The shop is great and the mining was fun. The water was freezing and it is cold and wear non slippery shoes in the mine. Good time.

We took our kids for a fun weekend in Dahlonaga. We enjoyed the history and tour of the mine. Afterwards we panned for gold!

Didn't think I would enjoy going down into the mine, but I have to say it was very interesting to learn about the conditions the miners worked in. All members of our family enjoyed it, and would recommend a visit if you are in the area.

We had a great trip with a knowledgable and friendly staff. Tour and gem mine were family friendly. Reasonable cost.

Family of five plus grandpa. We had a great time. Best part was our guide, Miner Jason. Its gotta be hard to keep a group of twenty people of all ages completely interested in a 40 minute tour. He nailed it. Also Miner Mike at the jewelry station was very helpful. The whole staff was nice and the experience was awesome. Would definitely recommend.

Open 7 days a week, underground tour nice to cool off from GA sun.
Cool place to add to a stop in North GA!
Nice bathrooms.
Short historical tour underground very safe.
Highly recommended gem stone mining $15-$100 bucks depending on size of bucket.
Awesome place to turn findings into jewelry or polished gems to take and get placed for jewelry.

This is definitely the gold mine to visit when in Dahlonega, GA. We visited in August during this crazy summer. We had no problems with the staff or other persons not abiding as well as they could to social distancing or wearing face masks. The guide was very knowledgeable and he was fun to listen to. Many tours like this find the tour guides giving lots of canned jokes. While funny at times, our guide was much more educational in engaging the group. What a great experience.

We took the underground tour given by Jessie and enjoyed learning about the history of the Dahlonega mine. Jessie was great. We also panned for gold and gem stones. The miners were great and informative, explaining the various types of gems we found. Excellent fun for several hours for couples, friends or families.

Enjoyable tour, guide was well informed. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes it can be a little slick and there’s a lot of stairs.

On a family trip and decided to stop in this Goldmine. We had Rusty as our guide, and enjoyed the tour. A little pricey, for the time down in the mineshaft, however panning the gold was a great experience, and that was included in the cost of the tour.

Great tour guide, actually honestly funny, entertaining and informative went down an old gold mine and made us realize the challenges to mining back in the old days. Even my older teens ( and us parents) enjoyed panning for gold and then panning for gems. To convert the gems into jewelry was quite expensive if you’re going up there, I would plan other activities close by to do before and after. Even tho by mileage a lot of things looked close, they took an hour to get to, so plan in advance.

We stopped by Consolidated Gold Mine with our children. It took approximately 1 hr to pan for gold and take the tour of the gold mine. The tour guides stay in character and could be a little cheesy, but our kids LOVED it. The paning for gold was also a lot of fun.

The total experience exceeded our expectations. The tour guide did a great job and we had fun while learning a thing or two.

Everyone is very nice and attentive. CJ and Jennifer are amazing among everyone else. Very safe and the miners are amazing.

OMG!!! this is a place for the whole family. my husband and i just came back from there we did it all the underground tour the pan for gold and the gem mining.... we did the $50 bucket for gem mining great stones. all the staff is super friendly and the history of how they worked in the mine and the sacrafices they made too WOW .... I would recommend to everyone. and we will revisit this place again....... Just love this place

We decided to head up to Dahlonega today last minute and I’m so happy we decided to go to Consolidated Mine! We have a 13 and 11 year old and we weren’t sure what they would think...picky teenager and preteen...they LOVED it! Our tour guide, Jason, was great! We enjoyed learning about the mine and he kept our attention the entire time. He was extremely personable and friendly. He even included my son in a demonstration! Afterwards we panned for gold which was fun. Then my kids panned for gems. This incredibly nice gentleman took their stones and separated them based on rock or precious stones. For two kids who think they are too cool, they loved it and were discussing what they could make with their new stones in the car. It was a lot of fun and educational. I highly recommend coming here on your next trip to Dahlonega!

When we got there there was very few people around, so we thought it would be lower risk. We were shocked and terrified to discover our tour group had nearly 30 people on it and masks were not required. Needles to say, this resulted in a group of unmasked people being crammed together in a small space with no ventilation.
We brought this up to management, and they apologized for the size of the group. We inquired about other changes they can make such as requiring masks and spacing groups further apart, but they were “not interested in making these changes at this time.”
Consolidated Gold Mine clearly does not care about the health and safety of its employees, patrons, and community. A few enforced policies at this historic and educational location would greatly increase safety for everyone.

This is the second time I’ve been there but the first time with my teenagers. They enjoyed the tour. This is a really fun thing to do in Dahlonega.

We took our family of 13 on the Consolidated Gold Mine tour and had a great experience. The tour was interesting and informative. Our guide, Cam was knowledgeable and fun. After the tour the kids loved the panning for gold and were happy with their finds. Highly recommend!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Chris. He was very knowledgeable and entertaining and made the experience feel like we were transported back in time. Loved that we got to go underground for the first 40 minutes and then ended with our own attempt at panning for gold. We got to take home the gold nuggets we found as a souvenir. Great value for the money, educational, and fun. Highly recommend!

Sounds like a tourist trap, but it's far from it! The mine tour was awesome, guide was good. Nice explanation of some of the tools, but missed a lot of the history and the mining process that really would have made it exceptional. Paning for gold was fun (not every pan is a winner so have fun with just doing it). The mine tour isn't strenuous at all, but if your kids have to be carried, it can be difficult.

I would say this is not the best value for money if you go panning as you only get 1 pan full of dirt and very few specks of gold, however if you pay for the bucket of gems you will get some nice large stones. That was a better value in mho, the tour we didn't do because my son didn't want to hear people just talk lol, but I would have liked to have done it just for the history. Overall just ok

This is a great place to see gold mining at its finest. Guides are informative and helpful. A must see In Dahlonega!

Our tour guide was full of personality and very informative. I learned a lot about gold mining and was given the opportunity to do it myself after the tour. Very fun!

This was so much fun. Actually going into a real goldmine. Panning for gold and digging for gems. We had a blast Eli was a great miner and kept us engaged the whole time.

This was a surprisingly fun adventure. We got to explore the mines with our guide Kennedy who was very knowledgeable! Be ready to climb a lot of stairs!

I researched mines in the area and this had pretty high reviews and I saw a lot of people found semi precious gems. We did this with our teens and they loved it. Frankly, I loved it too!
It was really fun. There were 5 of us so we got the $100 bucket. We found TONS of stones. Ruby's, Emeralds, all kinds of stuff.
After you finish you can have them look over what you found. They sort the items that could be made into jewelry and even have a jeweler on site. I wish we would have left some things with them to be made into jewelry but we took everything home.
On another trip we will probably bring some stones back to them and at least have them cut and polished.

Woke up Sunday morning and decided that the wife and I would drive to Dahlonega and go panning for gold and gems. We panned for gold, and then took the tour with Miner Jessie as our guide. Very friendly and funny. We then panned for gemstones. Miner Jessie happened to be the one who picked our bucket for us and got us started. We had a blast sifting through our five pound bucket. We filled three bags with stones. After that, Miner Mary helped us by going over what we found. She separated all of the cutable stones and identified everything. We found a rough ruby stone that will yield five cut gems! We also found rough emeralds and sapphires, among other semi precious stones. We had so much fun!

We took our son for his birthday. We did the mine tour and gem panning. Our kids loved it! We had a great time! Everyone was super nice and knowledgeable. We were concerned about social distancing but it wasn’t too crowded and we were able to space out. Had a great time!

We had a blast at the Gold Mine. Michaela was our guide and she was extremely informative and funny. We saw hibernating bats and learned very interesting facts. We mined gold and I found a flake. We also mined gems and found sapphires, rubies, emeralds, garnets, topaz, amethyst and citrine. We left a garnet with the Lapidary to make a pretty garnet ring for my wife.

We had a great time and enjoyed the experience. Our tour guide was Matt, huge shout out to him! Matt was awesome, funny and knew his history. I would absolutely recommend this tour and ask for Matt!

We had three adults and one child (5yo) in our group and we all loved it! We had time to pan for gold before the tour and that was a fun experience, we all found gold! The tour itself was so awesome and interesting! The tour guide made it so much fun! He was very knowledgeable too!

Stay away from Dahlonga! KIDDING! One trip and you’ll be infected with “Gold Fever”. It’s a real thing😊

This place is awesome! I really enjoyed the underground tour of the gold mine and learning the history of what the miners went through and just how far they got before the mine shut down in 1906. Apparently the lower levels are underwater but there are plans to drain it and open it to the public in the future. I believe the tour is around $18 per person so it's a little pricey but it's definitely worth it! With admission you also get to pan for gold and take home anything you find. I found 2 small flakes so it wasn't much but it was fun learning the process. They also offer gem panning but we didn't do this. I really enjoyed the whole experience and I will return again if I'm ever back in the area ❤

had so much fun panning for gold and gems!. Glad they added the film in the beginning to remind us how to pan for gold. The gems were beautiful

It was fun to go into the goldmine and learn from the tour guide about the history of gold mining and how it related to the area. Panning for gold was a neat experience as well.

Came here with our family of 6. The tour underground was REALLY near and our Miner CJ has a great personality and key the tour fun and educational. My kids really enjoyed themselves. We also panned for gold and gem mined. Definitely a memorable experience!!

We went as a three generation family aged 5 to 65 and enjoyed about and hour and half onsite. Our tour with Miner Rusty was fun and informative -- kept the kids and adults entertained. The mine tour is not too long and perhaps not as spectacular as the Cripple Creek mine we visited in Colorado but a nice informative tour. Afterward we panned for gold and came home with some small gold flakes and enjoyed our time.

Fun time educational without being boring, the gold panning was ok but the gem mining is a lot more rewarding.

The entire experience was fascinating. The knowledge you receive, being able to view an old mine site, and panning for gold! I would highly recommend a trip here!

We really weren't sure what to expect but with all the awesome reviews we thought we would give it a try. It was so interesting seeing how the men worked in the mine and what all they had to do. I can't imagine what they went though in those days. We did not get many gold flakes but did the $30 gem bucket and got a lot of gems. We would do that again!

Our school visited for a field trip. We had the absolute pleasure of having TAYLOR as our guide. He was so full of life and a wealth of knowledge. We have visited the mines before but heard new information from him. I appreciate that so much because many places just repeat a script. We loved the gem mining too. Mt kids found a ton of cool rocks. Our group really enjoyed the mines. We always look forward to going back. I’m a local and can’t wait to visit again!

The gold mine tour and panning for gold was a lot of fun. Our tour guide Cam, did a great job explaining about the mine and how in worked. He was very knowledgeable and was able to explain the jobs the various workers did to extract gold. I highly recommend this tour. You will enjoy it, we sure did.

We chose to stop at Consolidated Gold Mine because of its historical significance and they offered a mine tour along with panning experience.
The mine is busy during the weekdays, especially in the mornings and that was the case when we arrived. This was not a problem as they are used to having large and small groups arriving at the same time. They sent the tour group for their mine tour and us to the panning experience. Afterwards they switched and our group went for the mine tour while the tour group moved on to their panning experience.
The mine tour was very interesting and informative. Learning about the history of the mine and those who worked it was educational. Our guide did an excellent job and everyone enjoyed the tour. After panning for gold I can understand the draw gold miners feel.
Yes, I would go back and do this tour again

Great tour, very informative! Nice little set up for panning for gold and gems too! My nephews and I throughly enjoyed our visit.

Our tour guide, Miner Alex, was wonderful and full of great information. Everyone at the mine was friendly and relaxed and just made it a wonderful morning for us! We are two grown adults and we loved the tour and gemstone panning. It was such a wonderful time and I can't recommend it enough!

Although we've been to Dahlonega a few times through the years, we never had visited the gold mine before. (Honestly, I'd always thought it would be cheesy!) What a great surprise today when we visited. The whole staff was wonderful - the 'miner' guys out back were so nice and helpful with our 'panning', and went out of their way to be polite, friendly, and helpful. The tour through the 100+ year old mine was interesting and informative and our enthusiastic tour guide, Miner Jason, was a delight. He seems like someone who really enjoys his job, but then everyone working there was the same! The gold panning was fun, but the kids LOVED the gemstone panning. This is definitely a must-do if you're visiting Dahlonega/N. Ga!

Really fun experience mining for gold and gems. The tour was very interesting. I am planning to go back and bring my daughter so she can get gems for her collection.

Good history of this cool town. A must see, especially if you have kids. We had no idea about all the gold in this area. Very cool

Fun trip into the past... literally... After a short film they take you deep into the mine where you glimpse the old tunnels, tracks and tools used by the miners (which they turn on and allow you to witness the loud sounds first hand). They give you the interesting history of the mine, stories and even a chilling moment where they go "lights out" and you are enveloped in the most liquid black darkness imaginable! If you're lucky you may even see a bat or two! My biggest complaint was the stairs going out... wondered if I was going to make it for a moment! After the tour they give you a complimentary pan and teach you how to pan for gold in the trough. Next they help you put your few flakes in a souvenir bottle!! Great fun!!

We were looking for a break from hiking and river activities and decided to explore Dahlonega for a few hours. We started the day at the Consolidated Gold Mine and it was an interesting and educational experience. "Miner" Jason, was very knowledgeable and made sure to interact with the guests on the tour ~ especially the young ones. He pointed out many interesting features of the mine and was able to answer all the questions. During these COVID 19 times, the proximity of other guests was pretty tight, but everyone in our group had on masks and there are restrooms available to wash up after the tour. Please note that it is an underground tour so if you are claustrophobic, this may be a challenge for you. Also, there are some inclines to walk up/down and the ground can be wet and a bit slippery. Temps in the mine are about 55 - 60 degrees year round, so dress accordingly.

Thoroughly enjoyed the mine tour. Don’t wear flip-flops, it is wet and muddy and slick! More “adventurous” of an experience than we had thought it would be, but that was a good thing! The shop was fun too. The staff was happy to tell us about gems they had found. Pretty jewelry too, if you want to get something unique that you know exactly where it came from and have a neat story. I have forgotten our guide’s name, but he was great. Definitely recommend.

This was a really neat experience. It is a real gold mine that still contains gold. The tour guide was very informative about the history of the mine. In addition to the mine you can also pan for gold and/or gems. Adult admission was reasonable ($18) and it included gold panning. Great experience for all ages. Note: some inclines are steep and may be wet.

Terrific tour of a real underground gold mine. Amazing to see and experience how hard the miners worked for what were 'high wages' at the time- but also suffered deafness and 'black lung disease' for a couple of dollars a day.
Very educational- I learned a lot! Our tour guide was great!
Wear good non slip shoes- and be sure to duck if you're over 5'8" tall.

Wonderful mine tour and fun panning for gold and gems. We loved it as an adult visitors, but I am certain that kids of all ages would have a blast.

I would definitely recommend Consolodated Gold Mine for an interesting hour or so trip. The tour miner was extremely informative, good with the small kids and getting them involved with the experience.
Panning for gold was ok. if you have back problems I would not suggest doing this. let the younger ones do the work, and you get to keep the tiny bits of gold you find.
Overall a great time for the family.

Hard hat Matt was terrific with the kids on our tour. Great info shared and was worth the trip. Wear closed toe shoes with good soles as it can be slippery on the walkway and there is water and mud around.

We had a tour of the mine. It is unlike Crisson. They are both worth visiting. Our guide Kennedy was funny. The panning technique they teach is better and the video is helpful. The tour reminded me of a cave tour except no bats or crickets. There was a huge bullfrog in the mine. Despite the fact that all three of our kids had Georgia studies in 8th grade, my wife and I were totally unaware of the gold mining in Georgia. We also sluiced for gemstones. We found the staff very friendly. We would go back.

Went as a teacher with 28 HS students and 4 teachers. The whole tour is informative and well planned. We panned for gold and then gems and took a tour actually in the gold mine. Fun was had by all. Our guide Miner Cam was near flawless. Smaller kids will be hooked on all of the hands on activities! Highly approve!

We enjoyed our trip down into the goldmine. Our tour guide was informative and fun. Would highly recommend this activity when visiting Dahlonega.

Great tour of the mine with miner Greg. Very knowledgeable about the history of the mine as well as the surrounding area. The included gold panning was fun also. Highly recommend this tour.

This is a fun way to learn history and experience how gold mining evolved in the early part of our nation. We loved how the guide, Jason, involved kids in several demonstrations of techniques in mining. This is a neat historical site snd we are blessed that it is being preserved. You will get to travel about the equivalent of four flights of stairs down and travel about 1/4 of a mile back into the mountain putting you about 200 feet below the surface. It was fun to get to pan for gold after the tour and learn how hard it is to recover even a few flakes of gold.

We were so pleasantly surprised by our experience at Consolidated Gold Mine! We expected it to be really touristy and cheesy. Instead we learned a lot and had a lot of fun! The tour with Miner Jason was excellent. He was so knowledgeable and really made the experience fun for the adults and kids alike. And while the gold panning was not our favorite part of the experience, the gem panning was well worth the money. The kids had a blast and Miner Mike helped them sort through and match up their gems to the descriptions. The whole staff was masked and it felt very safe. And one staff member was nicer than the next. It really was a great experience, highly recommend!

We learned a lot and gained a great appreciation for the difficulties of being a miner. Nice and cool in the summer, too!

I thought 18 d I llars was much but we had a good time. We got to go down 200 feet down and experienced some of what a minor experienced. I give it a thumbs up.

Tour was fun. Boys were so engaged and the panning for gold was fantastic. Gem mining was the best. Not to crowded and did not feel like we were to exposed. 20 people Max on tour.

About a mile from downtown Dahlonega is the Consolidated Gold Mine. It's a played out actual gold mine that is now a tourist attraction after water was pumped from the highest section. You can take a tour of the gold mine or pan for gem stones from $15 to $100 buckets (gems are guaranteed). The tour is $18 for adults and $12 for children and is approx 40 minutes long with a free pan of sand to pan for your own gold souvenir. A 15 minute film is shown before entering the mine explaining its 100 year history and the three different mining methods. One of the methods is illegal. Visitors are offered a hard-hat at mine entrance. If you are tall it may be well worth it to put one on since the ceiling is low in places. As you descend stairs about 200 feet, the friendly and knowledgeable miner-guide explains the various use of mining tools for extracting gold. Don't wear dress shoes or sandals as some paths are steeply pitched and wet from dripping water. The mine is a constant 50 to 60 degrees all year round so dress appropriately. At the end of the tour you are offered a free pan of soil and watch a short video on how to pan for gold. After panning most of the soil from the pan, the final search for gold is turned over to experts to find your gold flakes which are then put into a tube of water to take home. If you pan for gems, there are gemologists who will cut and mount your gems and appraise there worth. The gift shop offers jewelry and minerals for sale. This is a fun place for people of all ages and a great way to spend a couple of hours. The mine is opened 7 days a week come rain or shine.

We had an Awesome Experience! Rusty was an excellent tour guide, very knowledgeable & funny! Everyone was very helpful with panning. The kids loved the stones they collected.

We were looking for something to do on a rainy summer day this was great fun. We came back again to do more gem grubbing. Plan to spend time and money. You can spend just on the tour or gem grubbing but do take the tour.(It is fun)

For years, we heard about gold mines in Dahlonega and finally we decided to check it out for ourselves. An adult ticket to the gold mine costs $20 and children are $14. These tickets include the opportunity to pan for gold. We were the first group of the day and Miner Eli did not disappointment Not only did he keep the tour interesting with facts about the mine and how the miners earned a living in the mine, he added corny jokes here which kept the group laughing and in good spirits. After the tour was over, Miner Eli escorted us into a large open room where you had to hand your token to another miner who would hand you a pie plate full of dirt. If you didn’t want to watch the instruction video on how to pan for gold, there were plenty of miners and employees around to demonstrate how to do it. While we didn’t hit the jackpot, we did find some gold flakes.
Afterwards, we walked to another part of the large open room to mine for gemstones. We chose the smallest bucket possible, which costs is $30. I know that may sound steep, but it is well worth it. Both adults and kids alike had fun mining for gemstones and we left with some very pretty gems. If you have the money and the time, they actually have people onsite that can polish your gemstone and cut it into any shape that you want for any type of jewelry. Since we were leaving for lunch and not planning to go back, we nixed this idea even though it would have been really cool to have one of the gems made into a necklace or bracelet.
For the gold mine tour, the gold mine is underground which means that the further in that you go, the colder that it will become. (The website states that it is usually between 55 and 60 degrees.) We knew this ahead of time so we came prepared with hoodies. Others did not seem to know this and shivered their way through the tour. Also, during the tour, you will be going up and down stairs and there are parts of the path that are steep and wet. We recommend that you wear sneakers and not sandals or flip-flops because there is a chance that you could slip and that your feet will get wet.
For anyone that is looking for a different type of attraction, this is it.

Wonderful experience! Our guide was Rusty and he was great. There was a family in our group with small children who couldn’t be quiet and they didn’t always stay up with the group. Rusty was so kind and accommodating and didn’t seem at all bothered by this inconvenience. He was informative and entertaining. The mine is wet and muddy in some places so don’t wear slick shoes. Uneven ground in some places and there are stairs to navigate so this could be challenging for someone with mobility issues.
We panned for gold and gemstones after the tour and actually got a little gold and some very interesting gemstones including a Dalmatian Jasper stone.

This is a great place for "kids" of all ages. We decided on Consolidated Gold Mine as it offered actual panning for gold and gems.
In addition, we were given a tour of the mine, and our guide was very informative. Yes, we got some tiny pieces of gold, and some keeper gem stones.
Kids and their families will really like this historical place.

Exploring the mine and learning the history behind it and how the miners worked was great. Miner Isaac was great. Would recommend.

We were on the fence about this. Sorta seemed like a tourist trap. But was a rainy day and decided to go. The tour was actually quite interesting - a well led tour that gave a great overview of gold mining. The "gold mining" at the end was sort of lame - but could be fun for kids for sure. Took a little less than 1.5 hours
Not a must do, but a good rainy day activity.

Not sure what we were expecting. The tour was about 30-40mins going down into the carved out caves. The tour guide was interesting and funny(dad joke funny). It was interesting learning about the gold mining. At the end, the panning for gold was fun too. We came home with gold. For attractions in the area, its a fun way for $18 to spend 1-2 hours. Our tour had 16 adults/children, another had 4. Either way its a walk through time and the caves.

This tour was recommended by our bed and breakfast innkeeper. I was quite hesitant to go but was promised it was a great rainy day activity. My husband and I throughly enjoyed the tour and the panning for gold, which was included. The gold was a couple of specks but it was fun. I paid an extra $30 for gem panning and was pleased with the size stones I collected. The stones can be cut for jewelry and sent to you in about 8 weeks. The tour guide was fabulous and the 35 minute tour was worth admission.

Devin was a great guide! This was really fun, and I’d recommend this to anyone visiting the area. Gold is an important part of its history

We were visiting the Atlanta area and local friends brought us here. We had a great time finding all kinds of gems. Found rubies, emeralds, sapphires, tiger eye, sodalite, laboradite and more. It was fun sifting the sand and finding the gems. Then Mary was very informative and identified them for us. She was very patient helping me pick the perfect one to make a necklace. Great time on a rainy day.

We weren’t sure about this but booked the mine tour, panning for gold and gem mining. Boy was this a fabulous morning! We loved everything about it! John our tour guide was exceptional. We can’t wait to return with the rest or the family!

Our tour guide Jason was fantastic - passionate about gold mining, energetic and knowledgeable. It was so cool to go inside the mountain and envision what it must have been like to be a miner without electricity. We even found a frog in the mine and 6 gold flakes when panning for gold. One of the better excursions we’ve done. Our son is 12 and we all really enjoyed it!

Our tour guide was young, but very knowledgable. Could have slowed his speech down a bit, otherwise a lot of fun. The actually panning for gold was made harder by us than it had to be, an employee should have been on hand to assist.

This mine is a true hidden GEM !! Our entire family enjoyed the tour through the mine and our guide was fabulous, energetic and genuinely excited about the historical story he was telling. Then afterwards we all got to pan for gold with instructors handy and helpful the entire time. We bought a bucket of gemstones to pan as well and ended up with about 30 beautiful gemstones and my 10 year old was absolutely ecstatic about his find! Please wear shoes with rubber soles or soles that grip, the mine has some slick wet spots throughout. There are plenty of handrails, but having the proper shoes is a must !

This was much more fun than expected. Our grandson, 12 yrs, loved it. Had great tour by Reece. He was very pleasant, easy to hear and helped explain some of gems stones we got. Miner Mike was very interesting and enjoyed his explaining plain stone from good ones. Definitely would recommend this to others. Thank you.

Miner D was absolutely the best. He had appropriate humor, spoke clearly, and most of all, was it was obvious that he was genuinely interested in & enjoyed what he was doing. So many times tour guides are lackluster. He was not. It was informative and interesting. A nice way to spend an hour of your day.

We started with the panning for gold experience. The short - 2 minute - film was helpful, but the hands on coaching we received made a big difference.
We passed on the panning for gems, but we watched a group of school kids doing it and they were having a lot of fun.
Our tour of the mine with Rusty was entertaining and informative. It was cool in the mine, and a bit damp, so dress appropriately with a light jacket and shoes that provide good traction because the gravel floor was damp in some places.

The guides are wonderful story tellers. They give you a view of life working in a mine. You also get to pan for gold in very cold water. If you have trouble with steps, you do not want to go here.

Our boys, 6 & 8, got a gem set for Christmas and has been all about studying them since. So, since we live in North Georgia, we thought it would be fun to find a gold mine nearby to take them. Boy, we were blown away with how close we are to the largest mine on this side of the Mississippi River! You won’t be disappointed with the history of the mine and the adventure going underground to learn about it at the time it was a working mine. Afterwards, you’ll get to pan for gold and can add gem mining as well. The staff is very knowledgeable and very friendly. They top off the experience with sharing their tid bits of information and experience. If you are in the Dahlonega area, don’t pass this experience up. Bring a light jacket and wear comfortable shoes with a good grip on the sole for walking underground.

Loved learning the history behind the mine. Our guide, Jason was great - very informative and funny. Worth the money!

Miner Dylan was an amazing guide! Very knowledgeable of the mines history and served us a little humor throughout the tour. The “Glory Hole” was my favorite sight in the mineshaft, it was absolutely gorgeous! My favorite part overall was definitely panning for the gems! I found so many beautiful gems and I’m even getting a ring made from one of them! All the staff members were extremely helpful and welcoming!!

This gold mine provides the very unique and educational experience of walking through a guided tour of the underground mine. Our tour guide Jason was extremely knowledgeable and had a wonderful voice. We learned about the very harsh conditions of the miners and what it took to extract gold during the rush. There was also some educational information (although I had hoped for more) about the suffering of the Cherokee in the area that happened as a result of the Gold Rush and other happenings of the American settlers. Would highly recommend this experience. The cost of your underground tour which lasts about 35 minutes includes gold panning.

This was your little bit more towards children as far as some of the stuff we saw. But we still had a great time. You can have your gems cut and turned into jewelry. They have to ship it due to 3 week turn around kind.

We loved the history and guide miner Clayton. The mine was cool. Got to see the bull frog that lives down there. Not sure if he has ever seen the light of day.

Good place to go and explore with the family or on a day you have nothing else going on. We enjoyed it

This was an excellent mining experience. The tour is fabulous with wonderful tour guides that really want you to have the full experience of the tour. The mine is great to visit and experience what the miners went trough while mining for gold. They have a nice area to pan for gold and gem mining. We really enjoyed gem mining. The gift shop is nice and they have good parking. I would recommend it to families to visit, ware a jacket and tennis and be ready for a little steep walk back up from the mine. We took our 11 and 12 year old sons and they had a blast.

We were camping in CLeveland Georgia & decided to go visit downtown Dahlonega, Ga. for the day, visited the visitor's center to see what else was in the area and decided to give panning a try. We enjoyed the panning & brought home several nice pieces of gems to save as a souvenier.

We toured the gold mine with our 12 year old grandsons and they loved seeing the mine and learning about how gold was mined from the ground. They also loved panning for gold and gemstones. They said it was one of their favorites while we were traveling.

We decided to visit while we were staying in Blue Ridge for the week. Well worth the drive. A little trouble finding the place because it appeared we were going to a Wal- Mart - actually under the Wal-Mart. Was pleasantly surprised by the size and quality of the building. Clean, organized and efficient, and friendly. Jason did our tour and he did a great job. Very interesting tour and amazing to see what was done there years ago. We skipped the panning stuff but it looked like fun and a very good selection of products for purchase. Great experience and don’t miss it.

We went here as part of our weekend getaway. The cave tour package for $18.00 comes with one free pan to pan for gold. My husband had 3 flakes of gold and I had 4 flakes. The staff helped us sift the pans and collect the gold. You keep all gold you find. We also bought the $30 package to look for gem stones. The cave tour is a guided tour with lights on all the way. Everyone wore masks. It was not slippery on the path. The path was well marked and safely maintained. There were a couple set of stairs in the cave, but again, they were not slippery.

Due to low crowds that day we ended up having the entire place to ourselves. We spent about 2 hours total panning for gold and gemstones, and taking our tour. Miner Eli kept us laughing during our tour and the kids were very interested in the history of the mine. We really enjoyed it and will visit again when we are in the area.

On our vacation with 4 teens, we hiked to gorgeous waterfalls, went tubing down the river, fished for trout...but the favorite part of our trip was touring the gold mine. From the moment we arrived, everyone was so pleasant. Our miner, Jason, called everyone "friend" in his Bing Crosby-like voice. Jason was extremely knowledgeable about the mining that took place over 100 years ago and even had some good dad jokes. The best part was when he turned the lights off in our tunnel and lit a candle to illustrate the conditions in which the gold miners had to work. Of course panning for gold at the end and getting to keep a vial of water with the gold flakes you found was the icing on the cake. This is a must-see! (added bonus is that there is a Chickfila around the corner and we sat at a local park for a post-gold rush picnic.)

Enjoyed this visit with grandparents and grandkids. Tour guide Isaac did a great job of interesting the whole group. You walk about a quarter mile, up and down stairs and ramps. The tour talks about the first gold rush. Dahlonega became a focal point with its own mint and miles of tunnels. Good value. At the end of the tour you can find a few golden flecks as you pan for gold. Great activity for the whole family.

We went as a family with a 4 yr old and 2 adults. CJ was our tour guide, he is truly passionate about his job and the history of the gold mine.Very nice place to visit and tour. The guys who helped us pan for gold and jemstones were great also.( sorry forgot their names). Will visit again and highly recommend.

We were totally satisfied with our experience at Consolidated mines. The tour guide and his assistant (which was the assistants 2nd day on the job) were awesome. They interacted with everyone on the tour and answered all of our questions.
Thanks for the great experience,From Steve and Kim(Florida)

First we did a little panning inside the store just to learn , then we saw a video explaining the history of the mine founded in 1845 then took a tour of the mine closed to mining in the 1980’s, we were down over 200 feet and saw the type of equipment they used, very interesting though the lifetime of a miner was not very long some would be deaf in a few months of drilling and some would die of silica powder inhaled. It was very fascinating

Everyone was super nice and it was a great environment! Loved being able to do it indoors due to it raining the day we went.

My family loved it, but I have diff I culty walking, and the experience was very unpleasant and hazardous--- steep inclines up and down j, poor lighting, and wet paths. Last 50 yards was a near death rexperience. If you can't walk well, and go up and down steep steps easily, think twice about going.

We had fun going down into the mine and then panning for gold and gems. The mine is a chilly 55 degrees so we took jackets.

We just went as a couple, but this is definitely fun for the whole family. Our guide was Miner Lisa and she was phenomenal! She had a very engaging affect while giving us an incredible amount of information about the mine. She included the children in her storytelling, and was very knowledgeable when questions were asked. We also enjoyed the gold panning at the end; the staff there was also very friendly. The only thing you want to keep in mind when visiting is it is a mine, so there are significant declines with water and stairs to climb. Aside from that, I definitely recommend checking it out.

The tour was excellent. We learned a lot about gold mining. Our guide was very knowledgeable and made the history very interesting. And panning at the end of tour was fun. We got flakes of gold we found in a tube as souvenir. Very nice!

Fantastic tour guide (Miner Cam) and the tour itself is very interesting. It's a bit of walking so be mindful to wear the correct shoes and be mindful of water drips. The mine itself is very unique and has some beautiful formations. We also decided to pan for gold. I got five pieces! Great time overall.

First we did a little panning and got a few flakes of gold, then took the tour down in the mine. I am claustrophobic but it didn't bother me (I didn't look back) till we got to a spot where the guide turned the lights off. The did have a light at the beginning of that walk way so I just looked at that mostly. Good history and very friendly people.

Miner Elli was an excellent tour guide. We really enjoyed our tour of the mine. He knew the history very well. Thanks for a great tour.

This was a on a whim excursion. We were not planning on visiting here, but when we were recommended it by a family member we couldn't pass it up! We did the underground tour, panned for gold and did the gem mining. The tour was great, not too long and our tour guide was great (even with his dad jokes)! My kids especially liked the panning for gold and gem mining. I would highly recommend!

We had a great time at the Gold Mine. Our guide, Rusty, was informative, funny and very nice. He handled a large group, getting everyone involved, while delivering some funny one liners. The store and gold panning was also a lot of fun. I would definitely visit again.

We had such a fantastic time here. We loved the underground mine tour and panning for gold! Our 4 year old loved the gem mining. Awesome stop on our tour of North Georgia!

Looking up through the hole at surface level from underground was beautiful! Miner Mason went out of his way to make my anniversary surprise really special and helped me present my gift to my husband by pulling it out of a dynamite hole and pretending he discovered a rare find! Everyone there was asking to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. The tour was so interesting and we all found gold while panning. I highly recommend this place!

Very interesting and guide so fun. I visited the museum downtown before my visit. Going in the mine is a great way to understand the difficulty of working the mines and the wonder at what they accomplished. I even panned for gold!

A fun and very informative tour of the mine and our 3yr old LOVED panning for gemstones! The mine itself was pretty and felt great on a HOT July day in Georgia!

Tour fascinating and panning for gold and jewels fun experience. Visited many times with family and friends.

On an anniversary weekend getaway we got to experience this wonderful facility. The history and being able to go tour the mine was very interesting and fun. Our tour guide was was good but wish it would have been Miner Mike. After we panned for gold and found a few pieces, we purchased the bucket of Gem stones to see what we could find. Very fun & found a good amount of gems with 6 being valuable. Miner Mike was great at explaining what he could do with some of the gems we found. We had a really nice amethyst that we left with him to make a necklace to remember our anniversary trip from. Thanks to my wonderful husband & Miner Mike for leaving me with a great piece that will be with me forever.

This is a nice option to beat the summer heat. A little on the pricey side for a 40-minute tour and some panning for gold, but its interesting to see the conditions that these gold miners had to work in. We paid the $30 for a bucket of rocks as well. Seems like it would be a great place to visit for a family with kids.

WAs an enjoyable and informative tour of a real gold mine, guide was very informative and pleasant. Learn how hard a job it was to work in a mine at the turn of the centruy.

We did the gold mine tour and panned for gold after. Tour guide was entertaining and kids had fun. Nice for history buffs.

My husband and I took a tour and enjoyed it. I say it's worth the 40 minutes, we had a great tour guide, Casey. Just a little pricey in my opinion but still a fun activity to do!

Fun stop right outside of Helen Georgia. Me and my family found this place very fun and informative.

While not cheap to get in - the Gold Mine Tour is great. We had the "Mining Leprechaun" for our guide and he was full of fascinating info. We live in a high tech world and to go to the gold mine and learn what life was like being a miner in the late 1800's / early 1900's was an eye opener.
Great for kids to learn what life truly was like back then. No high tech gadgets or even electricity - all work done by candlelight / lamps. Even the "drilling" of the holes for placing dynamite to blast the rocks was hard work - one person holding a 6 ft chisel and another swinging a 12 lb sledge hammer in candlelight. Into the 1900's came air drills which made the job easier and a bit safer, but the noise would turn a driller deaf in a matter of months.
You get to pan a pan for gold at the end, which is interesting. We had done this before in Alaska, so did not participate in that.
They also offer gem mining there - which is a separate charge to the "gold mine our."
Highly encourage all to visit at least once - esp with kids so they learn some real history and understand life today is far different than 100 years ago.

It has been se eral years since our visit but we had an exciting tour down into the mine. I would recommend it to anyone.

Did gold mine tour, panned for gold and panned for gems. Great fun for everyone. Having one of the stones set as a ring. Excellent choice for your visit to the area

With only a day to get away from Atlanta, we were looking for something fun to do and came across this place. We really appreciated how well each staff person treated a large school group, especially as each kid buying a souvenir. The mine tour is really cool and they set you up to pan for gold to pass the time before your tour time. All in all a great way to spend a morning!

We took the tour. My 15 family members had a great time. Panned for gold after the tour. The tour guide was good with the kids

Went to Consolidated Gold Mine on a Friday afternoon to see what the US' first gold rush was all about. We went on a group tour of about 30 minutes followed up with a little gold panning in their panning room. It was a quick & fun thing to do while in Dahlonega. The mine is below ground by about 200 ft, so be prepared to go down and then back up stairs. Pretty cool to see how they mined for gold in GA.

I would highly recommend doing this with family as a Saturday outing! The tour was well worth it and a great family fun morning. We got there at around 10am and we left at 12. We all loved it.

We expected kitschy junk like what we’ve seen outside of Helen, GA, but that is NOT what this place is. This is where the experts are. The employees seemed to enjoy their profession, and they were incredibly knowledgeable of history, science and the trade of panning/mining. Panning for gold was fun, but we “mined” for gems with the $50 bucket and we felt like bank robbers walking out of there. It was not only fun, but was such a bargain for what we got. The tour was also very fun. Highly recommend it.

We did the tour and also the gemstones activity. The kids got two giant bags of gemstones from the $30 bucket and the underground tour was definitely a fun experience that my kids will remember forever!

I was fortunate enough to be on a special trip to see parts of the underground mine workings that are not yet open to the public. Fascinating examples of metamorphic rock folding were visible on the tunnel walls.
The underground part of this interesting tourist attraction is not suitable for anyone with mobility issues (lots of stairs to climb up and down). Well behave children will enjoy the experience, though. Very enthusiastic guides.

The tour through the mine and the gold panning experience was a fun time. Our guild, Eli, was extremely knowledgeable, as well as entertaining as we made our way through the mine. Would definitely recommend this attraction to people of all ages!

We visited earlier this month and had an amazing time. EVERYONE was extremely nice and friendly! From the time we walked in we felt like family. We explored the underground mines, panned for gold, and then panned for gems. We found the most beautiful stones. One was a garnet gem that happens to be my birthstone. They took the stone, cut, polished, and set them into earrings for me. I received them in the mail today and could not be any happier. All I can say is - “From the hello — to the package being delivered — all was above and beyond. I promise if you visit you will not be disappointed!”

My husband & I were traveling in the area and looking for fun things to do, we stopped in to the Consolidated Mine, it was really neat. The trip down in the mine was an easy stair climb, not too hard and it was narrated by a very good guide. After the video & trip down in the mine, we panned for gold.. that was fun. I would like to have found more gold flecks, LOL. Overall it was worth the trip.

Had a great time on the tour and learning how to pan for gold and doing a little gem mining. Staff was awesome and very friendly.

I don't exactly want to summarize our experience here as a 'Tourist Trap' because we REALLY did enjoy the underground mine tour however, I was incredibly disappointed that it felt like we were taken advantage of afterward. It is great for the kids to buy a $30 (recommended) gem bag and use the indoor sluce to pan through the dirt using water to uncover UN-tumbled gemstones within. Our family thoroughly enjoyed this activity. I will say that I was unfortunately put under pressure by one of the gem cutting staff when all we wanted to do was just ASK what a few of the stones I did not recognize were. Suddenly the staff member started 'offering' to cut and set the stone into a ring or pendant right in front of my son and husband and myself being as knowledgable as I am about how much more AFFORDABLE these things are on the internet, I was aghast when he quoted to cut the stone and set it into a ring for a whopping $140! That's OUTRAGEOUS when its so easy to find BETTER color, cuts, and quality ONLINE for at LEAST $75 cheaper. Next he shows my excited husband an option on one of HIS stones for AGAIN a whopping $165 when I know darn good and well that a TIGER's EYE cabachon can be bought for only $4! We were taken advantage of here while my family were so excited by their $50 gemstone bag that they were emotionally involved and vulnerable to persuasion. Stay for the tour but by ALL MEANS AVOID the cheap 'gem cutting experience'. You can find stones for less than $10 at your local Gem and Mineral Show each year or online. Shame, Shame, Shame. Watch your wallet and if you want the experience, search it on your phone and show them know you know better than being taken advantage of!

It was a surprise. A pleasant surprise. First an informative guided your into the actual mine. Then you get to pan for your own gold. Painstaking work. Helpful experts were on hand. Lastly, you purchase gem buckets and you pan for your gems. Amazing.

It was an overall great experince. We had a lot of fun and I would absolutely do it again. Several of the staff were very friendly and well in theme with the experience. We did the gem mining and tour with the complimentary gold panning ( I am glad that they partner that up). I wish that the person giving the tour did not make fun of people with Cyanosis. I mentioned it to him after and he said he just wanted to make a smurf reference... Also, the individual who reviewed our gems with us was not very enthusistic. So, I would just advise someone to pick your gem reviewer based on your needs. Other than those two things we had a great time with clean hands on family fun that was great for all ages.

We had the best time today! My 5 year old was able to easily do the tour, gold mine and gem mine! Very entertaining and interesting!

The consolidated gold mine tour was highly informative and very well-presented. The guide was excellent—knowledgeable about both the history and the gold mining process—and made the experience engaging and easy to follow. Highly recommended!

We came here with our 4 kids, ages 6, 10, 12, and 14. The tour was interesting and informative for all of us. The tour taught about the history of the mine, equipment and dangers of the work. The guide was funny, well informed and spoke loud enough for all to hear. He waited for us to all be caught up and ready to listen before speaking and groups were kept small so everyone could see and hear. The gold panning was fun for all of the kids, especially the younger one and my older kids liked the gem "mining" where many gems are found some quite pretty. It is pricey but has some educational value and fun.

Miner Cam was an excellent and entertaining tour guide. So much information about how mining was completed. So much more to see in the next phase of the mine! Pan mining for gold was fun!

What a wonderful and unique experience we had from start to finish. Loved exploring a real mine and learning about the miners from our very friendly and experienced guide. We would definitely recommend this adventure to friends and family. Thank you!

We visited Consolidated Gold Mine today and it was so much fun! Liam was our tour guide and did an excellent job explaining the mining processes of the 1800’s. Very educational and he made it so enjoyable! My husband and I are in our 60’s and had no problems navigating the tour. At the end we panned for gold which was fun but I also bought a $30.00 bucket (optional) to pan for gemstones! It was like Christmas seeing all of the beautiful gems I found. Mary was very helpful telling me how these gems can be made into rings, earrings or necklaces. I would highly suggest this tour!!

It was really fun and nice. The kids will have a lot of fun. Just were tennis shoes. They have a shop where you can buy a lot of stones.

This was a really fun experience. We panned for gold and toured the old mine. Everyone had a great time!

We had a great time and my 7yo grandson loved it! The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. We did the tour underground, panning for gold and for gems.

My son loves all things rocks and gems and this was a great place for that. The tour was interesting and great to go underground and see the old mine. Our tour guide, Jason, was really knowledgeable and engaging. All of the staff was super kind and helpful. We did the $50 bucket of gems and my son spent almost an hour going through and finding them-I was really happy there was air conditioning indoors where we did this! There are picnic tables outside and everything was clean. Definitely worth the trip.

I found this place on Trip Advisor and decided to give it a try. It was very interesting! Mason, our guide, was very informative and gave us a lot of history behind the origin of the mine and how gold was extracted. Not only did we have fun “exploring “ the mine but we also learned a lot about the work and conditions these men were exposed to.
We arrived early and were in a small group of only four which was an added bonus!

We tried out the gold panning as well as the gem mining here. This was our only experience with the gold mining and I doubt we would do it again. This was one of three locations that we tried for gem mining and it was ok. Probably in second place out of three. Nice gift shop. Most staff is pretty helpful (woman at the very front gave incorrect information about where to go and where to pay but otherwise everyone else was helpful).

After reading the favorable reviews for this attraction, our family decided to give it a try. Isaac, our tour guide, gave an interesting and enjoyable tour of the mine. The information presented in the brief tour gives one a good idea of what mining at this location was like. Surprisingly, panning for gold afterwards was fun too. I expect they plant gold flakes in the sand through which we sift, but learning about the process was fun and educational. My son and I both found 3 flakes in our pans. If you are in the area, don't pass up this attraction.

Great family activity while visiting North Georgia. We had Miner Jay, and our group had a blast. Our group had kids between the ages of 3 and 13 and they all had a great time doing the tour and panning for gold. Would recommend.

This is an actual gold mine (non-working) that you tour...it has a very interesting history. It is a small area, but you are given hard hats in case you find a rock! You can pan for some small nuggets too. Our guide was very kind and knowledgable. I recommend visiting for sure.

Visiting Consolidated Gold Mines was an absolute treat. Our tour guide took time to answer questions and gave many historical facts and stories about the mine and the surrounding area. I usually am fairly claustrophobic and the guide took time to set me at ease and told me what to expect which made my experience much more pleasant.

all the staff was great, very friendly and helpful. Mine was interesting and our guide was very good. Worth the visit for all ages

The tour itself was very interesting, and our tour guide was funny and personable. He was very knowledgeable of the mine, and the demos (light, drill/noise, echoing) and stories helped you understand how dangerous it was to work in the mines. Make sure to wear close-toed shoes, preferably with some traction -- there are a number of stairs as well as downhill and uphill walking on damp ground (muddy in some places). They do provide handrails in some areas, but some of the ladies in our tour group had on fancy sandals and I have no idea how they didn't break their necks!! Also a light jacket would be helpful as it does get cool down there. The gold panning was OK - a little underwhelming. But all the people who worked there were friendly and helpful, and the overall experience was good. The gift shop had a wide variety of goodies and also stuff for the kiddos.

This tour of a former gold mine is really worth the time and money. We learned a lot about the history of the first major American gold rush and the unbelievable conditions the minors endured (including very young boys). We went deep into the mine, seeing tools left behind by the minors, veins of gold not mined, deep areas filled with 700 feet of water, side passages made for safety, still operating air-powered drills that reverberate through the mine when activated. Cameron, our interesting and energetic tour guide, gave an information packed tour salted with humor and pathos. We panned for gold and found a few specks to take home as a souvenir of the trip. The tour was easy enough for older people who are stable on their feet, but could become a little dangerous for the careless or unstable. (I managed to bump my head on a low protruding rock.) The city of Dahlonega was interesting to visit as well.

A wonderful history and geology lesson in one fun trip! The tour is incredible, gem shop has beautiful items, and gem mining was fun. Great thing to do on a rainy day, highly recommend for kids and adults alike. Will go again!

Great place and our tour guide Rusty was amazing. Had a blast finding gems and stones and the end of the tour. Friendly staff.

Our Last minute choice to do something unique totally panned out! (Pun intended) what a fun experience and adventure for adults AND kids. They will be expanding the gold mine and we cant wait to come back with our teens, gold fever!
The mine is steep and dark, everything i imagined. Watch your head for low spots (I'm 5'2....)
Definitely worth the money. We will be back

Great adventure into a gold mine. Entertaining and fun activity especially for kids. Enjoyed the history of the mine and tour guides jokes. Nice way to spend a few hours in northern Georgia.

What a great experience. We did the mine tour with the panning for gold and everyone in the group got a little bit. We added in the gem mining and our group found emerald, sapphire, ruby, garnet, and many others. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and the facility clean. Be sure to see Mike the lapidary in the gift shop area!

The trip was amazing and even more stunning than I could ever imagine!! What made the experience so much better was our tour guide, Isaac! Thank you so much!

Absolutely loved this adventure!!! Would highly recommend...wonderful for families and singles and couples!!!! Clean and neat!

My husband and I visited and went on the tour without much expectation. We have done several mine tours around Georgia. This was very nice, the tour guide IS the best part of the tour. Interesting, entertaining and cool to see how gold mining was done 100 years ago.

We have visited northeast GA many times but had ignored the gold mines because we thought it was more a child oriented and perhaps all "pretend" activity. We saw the high rating for Consolidated and decided we would try it this time. It was so informative and interesting and the guide was great. The gift shop was also quite nice. There was a group of school kids there, but the staff made sure we could enjoy ourselves and hear and pan for gold without feeling crowded or having to wait. I highly recommend adults go and learn about the gold rush of the south!

If your in the area, put this on your To Do List, guide very informative, It was so cook going down into the mine. You even get to pan for gold at the end. Priced very reasonable. Would recommend for everyone, except people with mobility issues as you do have to go up and come down 3 flights of stairs.

Part of the country's first gold rush in 1828 this tour is very educational. Unbelievable what the miners went through in a days work. Our guide was very knowledgeable and funny. Before you go on your tour you get to pan for gold but don't expect to find much, a lot of fun though!

A great stop on a rainy day: we purchased tickets for the gold mine tour, which comes with tokens you can use to pan for good afterward. Then you can additionally purchase a bucket to sift through for gem stones. The tour was very interesting — we walked through the mine 200 feet underground and were able to see tools used at different times, from hand tools, to drills. We learned about how hard the work was, how dynamite was used, and we experienced the deep darkness for a moment when they turned out the lights, then showed us what it would have looked like down there with only candlelight. There were lots of families with small children on the tour and the guide was very good with all ages. Panning for good was fun, but it seems you’ll only end up with a couple small flecks no matter how hard you work at it. Nevertheless, they put the flecks in a little tube you can take home. The kids really liked the gem bucket — they ended up with baggies full of various colorful gems. A great way to spend the day when everything else was rained out — adults and children alike were well entertained.

We enjoyed the history and information on the Consolidated Gold Mine tour. Jason was very good with questions and explaining how things would have been for workers in the mine. Enjoyed the tour and understanding of a little American history.

Took our 3 kids on the underground tour and bought the $50 gem mining bucket. We really enjoyed the tour and the kids loved finding rubies, emeralds, garnets and amethysts while panning our bucket of sand. Make sure you wait in line to have the older gentleman sift through your kids’ finds. He’s knowledgeable and separates all the stones they’ve found that he could actually cut!

Great place for a family outing. Me and my husband went and we really enjoyed ourselves. Kids would love it. The staff was very informative.

My son asked for 3 things on our trip...to ride the train, go fishing , and "hunt" for gold! The tour was an added bonus and was really pretty cool. Reece, our tour guide, was great. The panning was just what our 5yo wanted and he was so happy to take home his very own gold!

This was one of the BEST things we did while in North Georgia! The mine tour was terrific. My kids (16, 12, 9) loved it. If you have mobility issues, it may NOT be for you, though. There are lots of steps, ramps, uneven surfaces, and walking. It is wet. Do not wear nice shoes. It is nice and cold down deep in the mine, so on a hot summer day, it feels incredible. Our tour guide was so informative. We did pass another tour while in the narrowest part of the walkway. It was a t--i-g-h-t squeeze. My son was a bit scared while we were on the dark, wet ramp, but putting him between two parents made everything ok.
The price of your ticket includes the ability to pan for gold. It is more complicated than it looks, but it is enjoyable. We also bought a massive bucket of gems to "mine for." The $50 bucket was ample for our three children. They came home with gorgeous gems. The gold panning and gem mining are all done inside, under fans. The staff is all very nice and helpful during the process. You take your gold home in a tube, and your gems go home in durable plastic bags. They have a gift shop and clean bathrooms on site.

Went here with my husband not expecting much but quickly became enthralled with planning for gold, touring the mine and then sluecing for gems.
I recommend you wear comfortable walking shoes as the mine is 200' down and wet in areas. To my knowledge there is no elevator so steps must be navigated. Great fun for kids and folks like me who are a kid at heart

A visit to Dahlonega must include a visit to a Gold Mine because it is the foundation stone upon which the story of the town is built. If you're going to visit a Gold Mine it should be Consolidated because it's the largest in the East, has the most storied history, and is simply the best in terms of presentation. Having said that, they're not doing charity work, nor running a State Historical Site, so don't expect a cheap fee ($18 per adult is not unwarranted, but it ain't nothing). The thing I suggest visitors really be aware of is that when you buy your tickets they will ask you "What size gem bucket would you like", and it's phrased as if it's included. It's not included, it's separately priced and the smallest of the lost is another $20 or $30 bucks I believe. It is completely optional to pan for gem stones, so if you're not interested be sure to be clear about that. The Gold Panning is included in the price, but is harder and less satisfying especially for kids. Likewise the gift shop is set at "tourist screams" pricing levels. All that being said, the actual Mine Tour is a good one, and the guides are extremely well versed and knowledgeable. The stories and the history and the explanations, and even the jokes, are delivered in a practiced but interesting manner. We never felt bored and the guide was truly into his job. All in all, the Mine Tour is worth the money.

Had a very enjoyable experience panning for gold, panning for gems, and touring the underground mine. Miner Jesse was informative and entertaining in our tour!

Miner Cam gave us a very fun and interesting tour. There is so much cool history about this mine, and you can't beat it being 60 degrees year round! We went as a couple, but this would definitely be a great family activity. There are some steep inclines at the beginning and end, so that is something to be aware of if you have trouble getting around (wasn't a problem for us, but if you have limited mobility, this may not be the tour for you).

My husband and I were visiting in town to celebrate our anniversary. The consolidated mine was one of our stops. The tour guide was very thorough and knowledgeable about his history of the mines. It did get a bit nippy down there so a light jacket might be more prudent. I was fine though, as it was SO hot outside and that was a nice refresher. Be sure to good shoes because it is wet down there and can be slippery in spots (some railing is available to hold along the way). We loved the experience and the panning for gold instruction and experience at the end with our free gold sample for paying for the tour. Note: if you are easily prone to claustrophobia, this tour is not for you.

i love dahlonega georgia this is pretty cool. i enjoyed the gold mine and the gold that was in the mine. i love dahlonega georgia this is pretty cool. i enjoyed the gold mine and the gold that was in the mine.

Fascinating tour (20 stories underground!) of Dahlonega's gold mines and the brave miners who worked there. Tour guide was informative with a good sense of humor! A lot of steps and some slippery rock areas so wear sturdy shoes.

We had a very knowledgeable guide. This was fun cool indoor break from the heat. We had fun panning for gold and jewels.

This was something all of us could do as a family. We had a great time and brought home 2 bags of gems!

What a cool place in the middle of north Georgia. Who knew!? The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The mine was cool and the gem panning is fun and you will get some great stones to take home with you!
Staff does not adhere to Social Distancing or mask wearing.

This was a great experience for the most part. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. We paid for extra gold panning and the gem thing. The gold panning was fun, and yeilded some small pieces to take home. The gem mining was a little hokey, basically seeded sand with chunky rocks collected from minds around the world. The tour was SUPER interesting. My wife and I really enjoyed it. Highly recommend that!

I have lived in Dahlonega for three years and I’ve always wanted to come here. My college kids were home for the holidays and we needed something to do on a rainy afternoon so we came here for a tour. Jason was such a great tour guide. He had so many interesting facts to tell us about the history of the mine. He was also really funny and pleasant. The tour is a walk through the gold mining history of Dahlonega. It’s really amazing to have such a cool place right in our backyard. At the end of the tour we got to pan for gold which was included in the tour price. We could’ve also done some add-on gem mining we decided not to do that this time. Some parts of the tour are wet and steep, so I recommend wearing good shoes. It was about 55° down there so wear a long sleeve shirt or light sweater or jacket if you get cold. If you’re tall, watch your head because some spots are low. What goes down must come up, so if you have trouble walking uphill or upstairs you may want to skip the tour.

We really enjoyed the tour! The guides were funny and knowledgeable, and kept it very interactive and enjoyable.

This is our second trip here in several years and it did not disappoint. Jay was informative and also engaging. During panning employees walked around constantly helping and gem mining was fun and the experts answered questions throughout.

This was a cool experience. We went gold mining and on a tour. Our guide, Miner Dee, was very knowledgeable.

Had a great visit, interesting and informative. Miner Rusty was an awesome guide. Recommend for kids, easy hike and great temperatures

My husband picked this place out of several in the area to look for gems for his rock tumbler. We bought a bucket of sand with rocks in them and sat down by the water to go thru them. The place is inside. He had so much fun finding a good variety of gems. We did not do the gold mine tour but it would have been interesting. They have a big gift shop also.

So much fun!!!
Great staff, we really enjoyed our tour of the mine with our group's guide Cam. He was very knowledgable, friendly and great with inquisitive young kids.
My girls (6-year-old and a 14-year-old) really enjoyed panning for gold and sifting for gems. So glad we stopped here.

Had such a wonderful time with this tour. The “miner” that gave us our tour was knowledgeable. Fun for the entire family of all ages

Dahlonega is a nice little town, the Historic Downtown Square is a must as well. The gold mine is very interesting, all the staff were friendly and informative. You have opportunity to pan for gold and gems, and for a price you can have your precious stones made into jewelry. It is worth the admission price and children would enjoy it as well.

What a NEAT surprise! My husband picked this for our weekly day date to keep our marriage strong and it was so cool! We took the tour, learned some great goldmine facts, and had a good time brousing the gift shop. CJ was our tour guide, btw, he kept the group laughing, was sure to caution us as we walked and did a GREAT job!!

My son and I have been to alot of gem mines all over the country Consolidated is by far the best. The quality of gems and the help by the staff is impeccable. The knowledge of the trade the staff has is beyond belief. Good job keep up the good work very very impressive.

wow! what an adventure! a couple of my friends and i went over to Dahlonega and stopped by, and we had an amazing time! we learned a lot about the mine itself, and even took some gems (pun intended) home with us!

Great insights into the area's history, especially as told by guide Too Tall Tom! Interesting learning experience doing the gold panning.

This is a wonderful trip for the family. It is short enough so the kiddos will not get bored, and the guides interact with the younger ones, so they feel part of the tour. The panning for Gold is OK, but the gemstone search is more active for the children. It is a little pricey to go, but still a good time.

We were 4 of us ( 3 from Nepal) and one from Dahlonega, GA, we had a very good experience and personally, this is my second time in the mines sightseeing. I got to know that how the gold was extracted from the rocks in the early time. Our tour guide was Mr. Liam Colburn, very informative and entertaining to the whole 17 people on the tour. Once you are in Georgia any one should not miss visiting.

My Visit to this place wasn’t only Spectacular, but it also blew me away! I loved everything from the History to the Gold Panning at the end of the Visit! Our Tour Guide Mason was a fun guy, to be around! He showed the whole tour at least 3 different things that went on around the Mine back in the 1800’s, from operating a Horizontal Jack Hammer to showing how dark the Mine was with fun facts! The Mine was really beautiful, and the Temperatures were a comfortable 60 degrees Fahrenheit. The best part was panning for Gold because the Tour Guide was helpful, as well as the other Staff! Overall I wouldn’t mind coming back in the future!

Our group of 5 women enjoyed this tour greatly! I would highly recommend this for anyone, especially families. I think even my young grandkids would enjoy this. I even learned a little bit of history from our tour guide.

Very informative tour of the gold mine. Definitely something to take family and or friends. They have gemstone digging but we chose to do that somewhere else.

The highlight of our trip! Our tour guide, Miner Dylan, narrated the tour with such skill we felt as if we had truly traveled back in time. The gem mining experience was world class. If you are looking for the ideal “mountain experience” this is it!

When you’re traveling with two children—a teenager and a younger child there are few places that can be fun for both. Consolidated mines did the job...and we, the parents, loved it too!!! We loved the tour given by miner Cam—incredibly knowledgeable and entertaining. The sights and sounds inside the mine were fascinating! And the gold and gem stones panning was another bonus for the trip. Highly recommend it!

This was a wonderful experience! Our miner Lisa was awesome! She was engaging! We learned so much and truly recommend everyone to go!
Honestly, the whole staff was kind! What a wonderful experience!

This was a very comprehensive tour. Chandler was our guide and was excellent. He had the perfect balance of historical knowledge mixed with humor. The tour was about 45 minutes long and after exiting the mine, we got to pan for gold (silver coins are included in your tour ticket to exchange for a pan after the mine). We also purchased a gem mining bucket. The restrooms are clean, the staff is very friendly and there are ample shaded picnic tables.

I really enjoyed the immersive experience of gold and gem stone mining. All the miners and employees were knowledgeable and fun. I had so much fun I don't want to visit any other place.

This was much better than I expected. I figured it would be a good place for kids, but me and my husband enjoyed it. The tour was informative, our guide was fun, and we were surprised at the end of the tour that we actually got to pan for gold. Definitely recommend.

Incredible! Perfect trip for returning families that may have ‘mined’ before. This place is a whole new level of awesome! Going into the mine itself was a great new experience. Entertained myself, my husband (third child) and two teenagers for over 3 hours!!! (Although you don’t have to spend that much time!)
My daughter and myself are also having custom jewelry made from rocks we found ‘gem mining.’ Such a unique experience! Great for all ages.

The tour into the gold mine was great. Miner Nick made it a fun and interactive tour. Our least favorite part was the gold panning, but we absolutely loved the gem mining. We went back the next day and purchased a bigger gem packaged. We are already planning another visit in the next couple months.

This was a great experience. It is certainly family friendly and well organized. Our tour guide Sam was a kind, knowledgable, and eager to answer questions. Highly recommend this experience to anyone.

We came as a family all of us over 18 and we had Miner Jay as our tour guide. He was funny he was informative and you could tell he was passionate about his job . It was very enjoyable. We got some gold to take home after panning at the end of the tour and are really glad we found this “ hidden gem” on our trip to Georgia.

We panned for gold, took the tour and them did some gem mining. This is a wonderful spot for kids and the family. The mine tour is great, however if you are taller than 5 feet you better get one of the provided hard hats. You don't get the sense that you are 200 feet below ground at the end because the tour is well paced. I would suggest wearing hiking boots with a grippy sole as there is water seeping on the floor and a portion of the tour is on an incline which may have a little water draining down it.

Wonderful experience in the Mines with Rusty!!!!
Lots of information and fun for all ages! Plus we panned for gold and gemstones at the end!

First of all, my wife and I love the quaint little historic town of Dahlonega. There is so much history in the area - much of it centered around the first gold rush in the U.S.
We visited one gold mining site - the Consolidated Gold Mine. In the late 1800’s and early years of the 1900’s this was an actual, working gold mine. Our guide took us several hundred feet down into the mine - making several stops along the way to provide a history of what we were seeing along our path. Our guide was an excellent story teller and did a great job of painting word pictures that caused our minds to imagine what it was like for those miners working so far below the ground so long ago.
The mine is a steady 55-60 degree temperature and damp, so we were glad we brought our lightweight jackets. There are several steps to descend along with a ramp in one section. Going down was not a problem, but going back up was a challenge for a couple of people in our group.
At the end of the tour, for those who wish to pan for gold, you are given that option. We felt like that might be fun for those with children. We chose not to do any panning.
Overall, our tour was quite interesting, informative and enjoyable. Our guide - a young man who referred to himself as the leprechaun of the mine, did an excellent job of informing and entertaining as he interacted with everyone in our group.
I highly recommend that you include this tour during your visit to Dahlonega.

This was a really fun experience. I thought it was going to be a lot more hokey, but the tour of the mine was very informative and interesting. We were nervous, because we had our children ages 7 months, two, four and five with us, but the tour kept all of our little ones invested. Our guide Sam was really friendly and good with the kids. They loved panning for gold after. We will definitely be going back.

Wow, just wow wow wow.
Thai is an experience you do not want to miss. We got there first thing on a Saturday morning. We started out by doing our gold pan experience, which comes with your mine tour ticket. There were 5 of us (4 adults and a 2.5 year old) and we all got a flake to 3 flakes of gold.
The tour was amazing! It lasted about 45 mins into a mine. I would stay don’t wear nice shoes/clothes as it was dripping a bit and had water in the mine but nothing crazy (I had white shoes and was good but my hat caught a few clay dropped). The miner team was great. She was able to answers everyone’s questions, even the kids that had some silly ones. She also had some fun little jokes and tricks to keep things fun.
They have tons of old finds from the mine when it was in working condition. You won’t regret checking this out.
If youre claustrophobic I’ll just add there really wasn’t any parts of the cave that were tight. I could put my hands out all the way by my sides and not touch the walls throughout most of the tour. They also have lights on in the cave that make it safe to get around. We had a few people in our tour that were older with knee/back issues and they were able to get up/down without it being too much - but I don’t think it would be good for walkers/wheelchairs.
Now for the mining review - the gold mining was fun, we got 1-3 flakes per person. The activity took about 15 mins but was included in our tour. We added on the $30 gem stone package - worth it!!! The bucket was about 5 gallons of sand/gems. We had a blast scooping the mix into our pan, shifting and then identifying. We got a huge back of gems including some precious stones. I got a huge chuck of blue sapphire. Luckily they have a lapidary onsite to cut your gems, Miner Mike.
Miner Mike was so knowledgeable! We was able to help us breakdown the possible sizes I would be able to get some my stone, what the color would be and proved me tons of options. And the prices to cut the stones weren’t bad at all! I’ll be getting 2 6mm stones, one set in a ring. It will take about 3 weeks to ship to me - not bad.
Overall, if you’re thinking about stopping here- do it!!! You won’t regret it.

I am glad that my wife and I decided to make the tour. We enjoyed panning for gold and certainly enjoyed the tour , with our guide Cam.
Five star all the way!

This place is one of the highlights of Dahlonega Georgia! It is so fun to go into the mine and experience conditions miners had to go through and see what thousands toiled away in for hours on end. Then after, you get to pan for gold, and take it home with you. However, my favorite part is the gemstone mining. We got a large bucket and we got an emerald that is going to be cut into a 10x8 ring and placed into an emerald cut setting! Also, their gift shop is wonderful and entertained our little family members very well.

Great Tour! A little more wet & muddy than I thought, wear good traction shoes or rain boots. Miner Cam was great!

Miner Rusty was an amazing tour guide. We had a great time. Drove up from Atlanta with no particular and totally glad we randomly decided to visit the mine. It’s a good tour!

Very cool experience in a gold mine. Super nice staff, great tour guide. This was fun for all. You get to keep the flakes you pan at the end. Try the gem buckets, they were also fun. The walk down has some wet ramps and stairs but were not slippery even though wet. There is plenty of space, some low ceilings but never any space that felt too small if that's an issue for you.

We had a great time even though it was rainy outside! Our guide was pretty funny and informative!! Thank you gold mine guide Jesse!

This place might be great, but after driving an hour and a half to get there, I was told they didn't take the only form of payment I had available. After several attempts to try and at least leave a voice-mail for the manager, an employee who wasn't working the check out desk stepped in amlbd helped me have a conversation with the manager. They really should list on their Website any forms of payment they don't take. The manager said he'd get that added, hopefully he will soon. It sucked not being able to do the main reason we went to Dahlonega. We ended up exploring downtown Dahlonega, though, so the trip wasn't a total bust. I will say, the manager doesn't know the area he lives in well. Or else we happened to go in the only six businesses in the area that actually do accept American Express--the manager of this establishment assured me that most businesses in the area follow them and don't accept AmEx. He was clearly mistaken.

We had a fun time touring the mine! Our guide (Miner Rusty) was very fun and knowledgeable. The tour was informative, interactive, and fun. After the tour, the panning for gold was fun as well. Oh... please note that there are some slick floors and close walls ... may not be good if you have trouble walking on an incline.

This was a really fun tour. The guide did a great job making it enjoyable by children young/old and adults. We learned a lot and our college-age daughters even had a great time panning for gold at the end of the tour. I recommend this to anyone and everyone.

Lots of fun at this family owned gold mine. We found the experience by accident while driving through town and we were warmly welcomed.

We have been to many caverns and coal mines so thought it would be fun to check out a gold mine. It was an ok tour, our guide was knowledgeable and it was neat to see the old tools they used to use to get the gold out of the mountain. The parking is free, but for the small time we were in the mine it was an expensive cost. They also include gold panning with the price of the tour, but that was not anything we were interested in, seems like something that would interest children though.
It was a blast
