Modern museum with beautiful artwork

By ThomasTCat |

We were surprised to see the crowd of people standing in line when the museum opened on Saturday morning. Lots of wonderful artwork to enjoy and the restaurant downstairs was very good with reasonable prices.

A Gem of a Museum

By Denise JE |

My second time going to the Currier Museum. Not living in the area, I love seeing all the paintings & sculptures done by regional artists I normally would never get to know.

Nice smaller museum- won't take all day to see eveything

By rcboater |

Checked it out on a Saturday- spent about 2.5 hours to go through. My wife and sister enjoyed teh special exhibition on "Killer Heels", thought I found it to be a bit much after a while.

Museum is well laid out, and easy to navigate, and not as overwhelming as the MFA in Boston- which could take days to absorb.

New Hampshire residnets get in free on Saturday mornings-- so go between 10 am and noon!!

Great little museum packed with precious art

By Celeste B |

Sometimes I get overwhelmed by too many choices: in the supermarket, in the Louvre....I like small treasures and that's what the Currier Museum is. It is manageable and worthwhile and has great curating plus some astounding pieces in it's permanent collection.

A GEM !

By Elizabeth L |

What a delightful small museum. Took the one hour art tour that gave facts about the museum and its history that greatly added to the museum experience. Next time I will sign up ahead of time for a tour of the Wright House. Unfortunately, about 15 min before I left a family came into the museum with a loud, rambunctious child and no one seemed to speak to the parents. Thank goodness I was leaving because viewing paintings and enjoying the exhibits is not pleasant with a small child running around and screeching.

A Museum of Art for all ages

By redlady43 |

From paperweights to clocks to Turner you will find it all in the Currier Museum of Art. I was visiting from England and was introduced to the Museum by relatives, and was impressed not only by the exhibits but the cleanliness of the Museum and the friendly helpful welcoming staff in attendance. It is a shame that more overseas visitors will not be aware of this great venue unless introduced to it by USA citizens. The Museum shop is well stocked and reasonably priced.

Spent a delightful 4 hours here

By MOBX |

Arrived just as they were opening at 11 am, note the spring opening time. Enjoyed the special exhibit on Augustus Saint-Gauden but also the regular exhibits. Galleries have a common theme, American art, European art, baroque art so comparison and changes can be seen.

There is a nice cafe and a gift shop too.

Hey New Hampshire! It is FREE on Saturday Mornings!!!!!!

By Jim R |

You read the title correctly. If you are from New Hampshire admission to the Currier Museum of Art is FREE between 10am and Noon on Saturdays.

The Museum is divided into sections that make observing the artwork easy and each area comes with staff who really do help you understand the historic and artistic significance of each piece.

At one point in my visit, I realized I was looking at a religious icon from the 13th Century and was, and remain, amazed.

Take the family, take a date or go alone, but give yourself a bit of nourishment for the mind and visit the Currier.

What a surprise

By Bob S |

We spent a lovely hour plus at this surprisingly interesting museum. We were especially interested in their Impressionist art -- including a few Monet's. We also loved their representatives of the Hudson River School and some of the old wooden cabinetry.

Small But Mighty Art Musuem

By AndreaOB16 |

This is the first year we have had a membership to the museum and have been there twice - one to see the exhibit on treasures from Florence and the other just for an afternoon. They have a small but interesting collection of on early NE furnishings and some really lovely blown glass. The exhibits are interesting and lovely for a small museum. Easy parking - cute cafe! If you are visiting Manchester it is a must do!

Surprising

By williame975 |

For a small museum the Currier had some pretty selective works by major artists - as a retired art professor, I was quite impressed.

GOOD MUSEUM; EXCELLENT CAFE

By Richard M |

When we are in Manchester, we've found there is no better place to meet old friends then the cafe at the Museum. Good food, reasonable prices, no pressure and lots to look at afterward.

A Wonderful "Small Museum"

By NLTraveler2012 |

The Currier is a gem. It has a wonderful permanent collection. The building is lovely and easy to navigate. The special exhibitions are interesting and well curated

This is a gem of a museum with excellent exhibits and unique special exhibits throughout the year. The daily docent tours are always informative no matter how many times one takes a tour

Small museum with Monet exhibits.

By voravitr |

We came to visit our son in Manchester NH area and we were looking for a local art museum to visit. We came upon Currier museum and we drove there. It was a nice surprise to visit this place. It just happened there were a few Monet paintings on loan this museum. The volunteer tour guide was very knowledgeable. She showed us and tell the story about the steel sculpture in the front of the museum by Mark Di Suvero, all the Monet and some other sculpture in the museum. She helped us with the interpretation of the works and made this visit truly enjoyable. There were few other gems - Picasso and Hopper. We had lunch in the courtyard of the museum and it was quite good. Overall this was a definitely a worthwhile place to visit.

Always interesting exhibits

By Stephen G |

The Currier is a small but interesting art museum in the center of Manchester, New Hampshire. The special exhibits are always entertaining and educational. The most recent dealing with guitars is especially good. Guitars from many manufacturers and many eras.
The rest of the museum is thoughtfully laid out and not crowded with too much art. It has elevators so you can see it even if physically challenged.
We have been numerous times and find it a treat every time.

An Exceptional Museum & Tour

By ChanEvan |

The Currier Museum of Art features a collection of significant paintings, sculpture, & decorative arts by world-renowned artists through the centuries ~ an exceptional venue worthy of a 2-3 hour visit.

Thousands of culturally-varied treasures are brilliantly exhibited in 12 pristine galleries. The focus is on American & European works.

The 90-minute Frank Lloyd Wright Zimmerman House Tour is a must for architectural enthusiasts.

What a great place

By pepelevoo |

We took a visiting relative to spend the day at the Currier. Enjoy the visit exhibits plus the highlights of its outstanding permanent collection. Enjoyed a snack the Wintergarden. That's a great museum so manageable and always enjoyable to spend some time.

Fine small museum

By bjjacobs2 |

Art museum. Lovely small museum. Worth a visit. Cafe is just ok though. Best to go when an event is on tap or during a concert

Great Museum plus a Frank Lloyd Wright house (The Zimmerman House)

By Sha-Sha47 |

I love the Currier Art Museum. It is small but just the right size as one does not get overwhelmed. Loved the Augustus Saint-Gauden exhibit and a visit to the Zimmerman House which is a Frank Lloyd Wright design right in Manchester not far from the museum. It is place to revisit again and again. Also they have a very nice gift shop and a cafe. Food was great. The staff are all very cordial and helpful.

Great little art museum

By cgray1962 |

This is a great museum with a variety of exhibitions. Really enjoyed both the art and furniture. Lots of small decorative pieces as well as paintings, photos and furniture. I recommend! Gift shop also has some really unique gifts available.

Wonderful gallerys

By Annie M |

The Currier is a fantastic museum that isn't overwhelming and can be done in a few hours. They have some great artwork from world renowned artists. We also did the tour of the Zimmerman House that was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, that was a great tour, there were only 5 of us, so it was very personal tour.

Toulouse lautrec exhibit

By KEAH67 |

We have been to quite a few exhibits at the Currier and are always impressed by the quality and interesting exhibits available.

Quite a selection

By margaret s |

If you have a couple of hours and you don't know what to do, visit this museum. Very nice pictures with a description on each one, which I found to be very interesting. Definitely a must see.

Excellent art museum

By Pamela J |

One of the best museums in New England. It is small in size but big in diverse art. A true jewel in New Hampshire.

Delightful Museum

By bbeeAlbanyNY |

We came here as part of an OLLI class on FLWright, so our main focus was on the Zimmerman House. Our docents were extremely knowledgeable on the home as well as Mr. Wright. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the house. We got to the Museum early, so had a lovely lunch in their cafe (reasonably priced too). After our tour we got a chance to poke around the museum itself, and we were very impressed with all that we saw. We'll have to come back to finish our explorations! Also, a great gift shop, with a good selection of art deco/FLW inspired items.

High heel show was fascinating.

By Lynda F |

We did not see the whole museum because we came to see the high heel exhibit and when we're had seen it, we were too tired to go through the rest of the museum. HOWEVER we will make the 2 hour trip agàin in July to see the rest of their works and to tour the Frank Lloyd Weight Zimmerman House!

Lovely, but expensive for its size

By Mary L |

A lovely, quiet museum; free ample parking steps from the door; but far too expensive for the depth of its offerings. I bet a tour would help a lot, but again, too expensive. We go on the monthly free Saturday morning a few times a year. But Boston's MOFA is an hour away.

A beautifully curated gem!

By Jill H |

We spend a lovely Sunday afternoon exploring every room. The current exhibit, Filippo de Pisis and Robert Mapplethorpe: A Distant Conversation, is so smart and beautiful! The collaborative work, The Feast of the Gods, by Johann Rottenhammer and JanBrughel the Elder, seems to have inspired on of the opening scenes from the Summer 2024 Olympics in Paris! The exhibit, Stories of the Sea, has something for everyone. There are paintings from Vincent van Gogh to Edward Hopper to Andrew Wyeth - romanticized views of the sea and glorious ships up to and including lazy days spent lounging by the sea or brutal days working by the water - everyone is represented here. And those are just a handful of the gems that we saw. If you are even thinking about it, I say, "Go, get yourself to the Currier and then go to the Red arrow for an eclair!"

It is a nice smaller museum with decent variety

By scott r |

You can see everything in 2 hours or a little over. Not crowded, space to enjoy the art. There is a diverse permanent collection - I suspect much larger than the building can accommodate. The grouping is eclectic but also rather 'fun'. Missed the FLW tour (sold out) but I expected this to be so as I've been on enough of them. Given that FLW also includes general admission, this is one of the better bargains and I should have budgeted the time and booked. Even without that though, this is a good stop to round out a day.

Tiny gem

By mpd |

A special exhibit on the White Mountains brought us to the Currier. Nicely laid out, large number of pieces. Permanent collection for a small museum excellent.

Small collection with Frank Lloyd Wright homes

By Brendan S |

The Currier Museum of Art is very small. With the second floor closed on the day I visited, I’d estimate there were fewer than 150 works on display. Highlights include a Picasso, a Warhol silk screen series and renaissance/baroque paintings. There are several temporary special exhibitions, all very small; a gallery or just a few paintings. The collection is in a nice space, but won’t take more than 1-2 hours to view.

The Currier also owns two Frank Lloyd Wright “Usonian” homes that are down the street from the museum that are only available to tour with groups. These two hours tours are longer than you’ll spend in the art museum.

Impressive collection

By Arteacher2010 |

The collection of this museum is quite comprehensive for a small town in New Hampshire. The galleries are well curated, they flow nicely from one to the next. Many local artists from centuries past to contemporary time are represented. They also have works by very well known artists - Picasso, Matisse, O'Keeffe, Monet, Marisol, to name a few. There is a lovely Cafe that offers a nice selection of salads, soups, and sandwiches for reasonable prices.

The museum was recently willed a Frank Lloyd Wright house that you must reserve tickets for and is well worth the price of admission. It includes transportation to the home as well as a very knowledgeable docent lead tour.

Talent abounds

By Lisa K |

I have been affiliated with this museum on and off since early childhood when I took classes there....now I live in Ny but visit when in town. They have very talented artist exhibits.

Not an artsy-fartsy person

By J G |

I'm no connoisseur, but love a good art museum. It is small, but wonderful. The collection is varied, and from what I understand a small portion is on display. The traveling exhibits are usually interesting. I have been many times over the past few decades, maybe twice a year. I still enjoy all the galleries there, and the temp exhibits as mentioned. I would recommend this to anyone. I even brought my Cub, Boy, and Girl Scout troops there. Maybe not for very young children, but there's something for everyone to discover.

Quality museum

By Gordon D |

Spent about 4 hours here - interesting variety of exhibits; the building is very atrractive and the staff friendly and helpful. Didn't "buy" their audio tour - did try the tour from their website - but it was obviously out of date; saw them in the process of doing a new installation -

Sunday jazz brunch

We visited the Toulouse Lautrec exhibition of his posters. There was some videos of Paris shows from that time period also.

Small museum with large Art filled Impact

By Susan C |

Company coming? Or, just want an activity for a staycation? This is a delightful and well curated collection of art from around the world. The American art room is thoughtfully set up. This venue offers additional excursions to one of an American architect home. There is a small menu in a large relaxing atrium to enjoy a snack.
Offering free parking and a lovely setting, this small museum is a treasure trove of first class paintings, sculpture, and furniture. We like the ease for handicapped accessibility and good shoes will help you enjoy this environment. Check in advance for additional activities and programs. Perhaps you town library even offers a discount pass? Enjoy the discoveries you'll find and feel inspired.

Beautiful

By Kristine W |

A gorgeous museum with interesting displays. We were mesmerized by the artwork. I will be sure to return here with visitors.

An exciting and eclectic collection

By Anne E |

This museum is just the right size to take in during a single visit. The collection includes some masterpieces by the most celebrated European artists--Picasso, Monet--as well as many by American masters such as Wyeth and Homer. As a Canadian, I was interested to see Lawren Harris and Christopher Pratt represented. My favourites included two Tarbells, a Remington statue, a Calder mobile and an Alma-Tadema.

The special exhibit on the guitar was an interesting although perhaps not entirely successful attempt to marry art and popular culture.

The museum has preserved the original building while making it more accessible (it's startling, now, to see how little the architect thought about accessibility in the original plan) and adding onto it. The Cafe in the addition serves an outstanding take on the Reuben sandwich in which the pastrami is replaced by roast beets.

One tiny criticism--I wish they had had a few more seats to stop and enjoy some of the galleries longer.

Awesome

By Venture493395 |

I have been here two times, very relaxing and enjoyable. I took my 8 year old son here and he enjoyed it too. The food they serve is pretty good too. They have a nice gift shop.

Enjoyed

Great activity on a cold gray day. Lots to see, variety. Interactives - timely. Area for kids to be creative. Loved the Hauling exhibit by Ethan Murrow. Fun to see some Frank Lloyd Wright and Grant Wood. ha. Staff were a bit snarky at reception desk, not particularly helpful for out of towner. interesting goodies ion the store. Watch the large glass doors. Overall a pleasant visitor experience.

The perfect Museum!

By Joan H |

There is nothing I enjoy more than spending some time at the Currier. It is small enough that you never feel overwhelmed and it has a wonderful mix of traditional to contemporary art. You can see a variety of genres and get a feel for the differences/changes going on in the art world. I especially love the special exhibits
they have, just saw an amazing exhibit on paper cutting. A must see museum!

I met my love there

By Milli K |

I agreed to meet a date at the Currier because I figured it would be a safe place to meet an on-line acquaintance. A place to judge his taste in art...the Currier has an mazing collection of beautiful art, more than you would expect from a small gallery. The paperweight collection (sounds boring, is NOT) is beautiful. Wonderful place to sit and talk to someone you end up marrying for life.

love it

By plott |

this is a geat building in a great toen and i love the collection and that they do new artists too---go

Amazing

By Jude |

My daughter had her wedding there and the venue and people were amazing. Highly recommend the gallery and the venue.

Small, but lovely art gallery!

By TimothyG1178 |

I had been there before several years ago but decided to go again. I was very pleasantly surprised. I'm not an expert in art but they had a lovely European selection which I quite enjoyed, some pieces going back to the 1300's. The contemporary section doesn't have as many paintings, but the ones they have are gorgeous. There is an upstairs that I couldn't spend too much time in-so it's a bit larger than I initially thought. A nice plus is that it's only 15$ for admission, so it's very affordable.

Currie museum in Manchester, NH

By LundehundMom |

Very nice art museum. I went on a rainy day and enjoyed the exhibits. I was slightly upset that the Monet was on loan and not there. I recommend this museum to everyone. Different art for different tastes. There is a coffee and sandwich and soup area on the bottom floor. I found some nice gifts in the gift shop as you exit.

Wonderful museum!

By Linda S |

Our visit to the Currier Museum of Art was much too brief, and I can’t wait to go back. It is a beautiful gem in Manchester, with a wonderful permanent collection, fascinating temporary exhibits, and access to a great tour of the Zimmerman house by Frank Lloyd Wright (reservations highly recommended, separate fee for the tour). There is also an excellent café for light meals, a great gift shop, nicer than many museum shops I have visited, and free parking in the museum lot. Don’t miss this fantastic spot while visiting Manchester!

Family fun

By Amanda J |

had a great time visiting the museum with all of my children. The staff is knowledgeable, the cafe was quite and provided everything that we needed. I look forward to our next visit

one of the better small art museums

By Dutch Brother |

Manchester, NH is a fairly small city (a little more than 100,000 people) to have such a high quality art museum. It is especially good for 19th century American art, with several Hudson River school artists (Cole, Church, Crospey, etc.) in the collection. But be forewarned: these are not their major works like you would find in the Boston MFA, the Washington NGA, etc. Another highlight is the collection of 18th century American decorative arts, especially furniture. There also are some silver pieces by Paul Revere. The museum is quite small, about a dozen rooms. You can see the entire museum in less than an hour. There is a nice cafe and gift shop. There is a free parking lot. The only downside is that admission is $15 which is a bit steep for such a small museum. In comparison, for example, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts costs $25 for a collection that is more than 10 times larger. But for a small city art museum, the Currier is worth a visit.

History and Art!

Wonderful exhibits, many hidden treasures that you would not expect to find in a small town. Loved it!

Boutique Art Gallery

By Stephen K |

My wife and I headed down to Manch-vegas and went to the Currier to view the Gaudin exhibit, which was visiting. The sculptures were exceptional, and the Picasso and Monet were nice surprises. The second floor had a signifcant amount of landscape paintings of turn of the centruy New England, which were lovely. From Lake George to the White Mountains and down to the Rhode Island coast. They have a nice cafe. We spent two hours there, and we could have stayed a bit longer. We will definitely be back.

A gem!

By mpd |

Small treasure with a great collection. Plenty of parking, near downtown. Exhibitions nicely laid out. Not crowded so eays to enjoy paintings. Very nice gift shop.

"Little Gem"

By Rose Marie |

Often described as a "Little Gem" of art museums, the Currier Gallery of Art was established in 1929. Its many offerings include the Zimmerman House Tour. The Zimmerman House complete with its furnishings, was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1950 and is the only such house tour in NE that is open to the public. The Currier Art Center provides programs in the visual arts for children including classes, camps and workshops. The permanent collection of art treasures range from Picasso to Monet and Wyeth. Special exhibitions abound and this summer featured the ruins of Pompeii and the eruption of Mt.Vesuvius in Italy.
I have personally visited this local treasure numerous times and each visit feels like the first. Make it a must on you next trip to NH.

Killer Heels!

By aBoater |

Great traveling exhibition, Don't miss it--to say nothing of the Shakespeare folio also on display now.

Excelent temporary exibit

By Malcolm |

The museum building is very nice and spacy. The changing exibit was very interesting although the other exibits were not impressive. The staff were lovely.

Inspiring!

By hjbjd |

This is a wonderful museum in the center of Manchester. It is not large, but does include American and European art,. Even a Picasso is in its permanent collection. This is a great place to visit for an afternoon.

Impressive collection and special exhibits

By Edmund P |

Had some time to kill on Christmas eve day... wasn't expecting much from a small museum in Manchester, NH, but we were all pleasantly surprised by the great variety of paintings, sculptures, furnishings, and other media... There is a temporary exhibit called "Hauling" which must be seen before it is removed. "Hauling" by Murrow is a specifically Manchester experience and is quite a feat of visionary artistry and logistics. Depending on how slow you take in the art you should be able to see everything in about 2 hours.

Odd collection of art styles, but definitely worth the visit

By Tiffany D |

The museum is fairly small but it packs in a lot of different kinds of art. The thing I enjoyed most was the Shaker exhibit. I knew nothing about this somewhat unusual community. It shows their traditions, their ways of life, and the influence they had on general society. Their furniture is highly prized and they suggest that some Scandinavian design such as Ikea based its style on Shaker design. By the end of the exhibit you realize that the Shaker communities no longer exist. It seems sad that such and interesting culture completely disappeared.
I enjoyed the exhibit about freedom and communication a lot.
There were some cool glass sculptures and textiles that were beautiful.
We combined the museum visit with the Zimmerman house visit, which I recommend.

Always an amazing experience

By Kate M |

This museum is absolutely a jewel. The permanent collection is amazingly extensive for the size of he building. Each piece is chosen with a researcher's eye to introduce "art" to the visitor. The docents are very knowledgeable and present the works in an intelligent and entertaining manner. They are very gracious as they answer ALL questions. The café is probably the BEST eatery in Manchester; the Sunday jazz brunches are a sophisticated gourmet experience. The gift shop is filled with unique books and the very best selection for giving. The visitng exhibits are "world-class"...do not miss the present exhibit Killer Heels nor the other exhibit: Folio from Folger library of Shakespeare's plays.

A delightful museum ~ worth a visit.

By JFC65 |

wMy husband and I chose this as a meeting place for several of us flying in from different spots. What a great decision! A delightful restaurant, delicious soup served in china bowls, lovely helpful staff. And, most important of all, some first rate examples of major 20th century art. Sorry we could not have stayed even longer.

small but lovely museum with a nice cafe

By Kgirl00 |

I love everything about the Currier. The staff members are always friendly and helpful. The layout is beautiful. And the art in this little museum is impressive! With a museum of this size, we have time to stop and enjoy each piece. The cafe is well worth stopping for, with excellent food, friendly service, and reasonable prices.

A gem. Small museum with amazing collections.

By travelbug |

Very nice collection of paintings, sculptures and furniture. Not too large to be overwhelming. Allow 1 - 2 hours. Friendly and helpful staff. Expansive gift shop. Visit and you won’t be disappointed. We were staying nearby at the Ash Street Inn and had complimentary passes.

A revisit to an old friend.

By John C |

I have made a point of visiting this little gem of a museum every time i visit my family in NH. I'm over usually every two years and love to reacquaint myself with the regular exhibits but there's always something new to look at with the special exhibitions.

I would allow 4 hours on a first visit which would include a leisurely lunch in the lovely cafe. Don't rush it. Now this was my first visit without a major discount on my entry fee and was charged $13 as a senior citizen. As a Brit, with so many of our great museums free to enter, this seems a bit steep but I'm sure there would be discounts if you seek them out.

I have to mention that I was intrigued with a beautiful portrait of Jedekiah Belknap which I thought bore a striking similarity to Anna Belknap of CIC NY fame. Both came from Maine!

One of the best art galleries in the NE of the USA

By Professional-Pilgrim |

From the outside, the gallery might appear small, but appearances are deceptive; it is really quite large, and home to an excellent permanent collection, only a small percentage of which is ever on display. In addition, the Currier attracts some great exhibitions. Currently, it is showing an amazing set of large-format artworks made of tiny Czech-made beads, assembled into beautiful mosaics of animals and scenes from the artists' home state of Kwa-Zulu Natal, in the Republic of South Africa. Entrance is free for NARM members!

Wonderful exhibits

By chiefrbpc |

Gal pals went for the day. It was wonderful. All the exhibits were exciting and beautiful. Would absolutely recommend and hope to get back after these exhibits change.

What a great local gem with a great little restaurant/bar

By mcyol m |

Small museum but with great pieces of art. I think you can absorb even more when the art is not overwhelming in quantity but more enjoyable in quality with fewer pieces. A great variety! The cafe is great too! And the coffee is real, very good coffee. Their wine selection is also very good. Food is delicious and made with fresh ingredients and prices are very affordable. They also feature live music and so far it’s been very enjoyable, it brings a very cozy, comfortable place to be after work. I really enjoy Thursdays free admission and their great mini tours. It’s a special local gem in Manchester!!

Great LITTLE Museum

By Sue G |

Great little museum. Number one reason we went was to see the Zimmerman house, but the museum was a nice surprise! In the collection oils by Maxfield Parrish, Louis Comfort Tiffany, Childe Hassam, along with regional art, contemporary (not My favorite)... a work or two by many artists. A nice surprise when I had no expectations. We did not, unfortunately, have time to visit the Mount Washington exhibit!

Enjoyable Museun

By corsha1 |

Great small and enjoyable museum with art from mostly American and Western paintings from medieval to modern eras. Surprisingly for the size they had some masterpieces by Picasso, Matisse and Monet. When we visited the special exhibit was a collection of paintings and vintage photos of Mt. Washington and the White Mountains wilderness from the 18th and 19th century.

They do offer docent led tour of the exhibits. The docent was great and was happy to focus on our interests.

Handicap accessible.

Worth the stop

By CharismaJ2 |

Small museum and incredibly enjoyable way to spend an hour or two. When we were there, there was a Monet exhibit which we thoroughly enjoyed. You will see art ranging from the Renaissance period to present day. We loved it. Spend the extra fee to also go to the Zimmerman House built by Frank Lloyd Wright. You must make a reservation to visit the home, so call ahead. It is so worth seeing as well. What an enjoyable afternoon at the Currier Museum!

Our vacation

By devorah a |

The museum had amazing art exhibits both American and European. Although modern art is not something my husband and I like, there were a handful of modern art exhibits which truly felt authentic, like the street numbers changing on a screen capturing our images in movements.

Worth visiting if you are in the area!

By Claire M |

This museum was a pleasant surprise! Small but might comes to mind, especially if you like modern art. Even have a small Marc Rothko and a large Picasso. As well, a few other big names from that time period of the early to mid 20th century. Some famous Canadian artists too! All in all a great visit and as I said a real surprise as I have not always heard the greatest things about downtown Manchester NH but this collection and the beautiful building it’s housed in is outstanding and helps change my mind a bit about the city.

always something interesting

By David L |

we have been members for years. there is always an interesting new exhibit or two. the museum is small but has an excellent permanent collection & a lovely courtyard diner

Who knew New Hampshire had such a treasure

By Marlene M |

While visiting Manchester we visited the Currier Museum of Art. The staff was friendly and welcoming. There are painting there that you have seen in magazines or on TV. Come here and see it for real. A beautiful beautiful building full of beautiful art.

Hidden gem

By Angielynn7 |

My hubby and I were looking for something fun to do on a Saturday morning. Saw other reviews of this museum and decided to check it out. Museum has some very nice exhibits from both European and American artists. The layout of the exhibits is very nice one room flows to the next. Museum is smaller than some but good quality pieces. We very much enjoyed it. Museum is three floors it does have an elevator. Has a small AAA discount. Small parking lot directly behind museum but also street parking if needed. Staff was very helpful and usually in each gallery to help with questions. Also has a small cafe on site. Overall nice way to spend a couple of hours and may learn a few new things.

Marvelous museum with outstanding staff. Bravo!

By RonL40 |

We loved our stay in the Currier. An outstanding staff, very helpful and happy to ask questions, greeted us and helped us on our way. The collection is quite varied, with good representation from the Renaissance to contemporary art. Excellent group of 19th century American. A lot of highlights here:

Anni and Josef Albers, Richard Anuszkewicz, Basquiat, Brueghel, Chihuly, Thomas Cole, Lorenzo Costa, Arthur Dove, Robert Duncanson, Richard Estes, Sam Gilliam, Philip Guston, Adolph Gottlieb, Marsden Hartley, Childe Hassam, Robert Henri, Kathe Kollwitz, Sol LeWitt, Judith Leyster, Claude Monet, Louise Nevelson, Maxfield Parrish, Pablo Picasso, Frederick Remington, George Rouault, John Singer Sargent, Charles Sheeler, Frank Stella, Elihu Veder, William Zorach. When we were there, we loved the exhibit of glass sculpture by Dan Dailey, Chihuly's first graduate student. Wonderful!

Small but worth the trip

By Susan A |

We visit the Currier periodically and are always impressed. It is a bit pricey, though. We used to use Entertainment coupons, but the museum is not participating any more. We will probably visit less often.

We're lucky to have it

While Boston may be stuffed to the gills with arts and culture, it is rare to find a museum as comprehensive and impressive as the Currier in a state like NH. We are lucky to have it! Be sure to check it out.

small hidden gem

By trishfla |

wonderful hidden gem of a museum. small but with a varied assortment of art. not overwhelming and not crowded. enough room to linger and appreciate the art. definitely recommended.

Fun, diverse collection

By Austin |

This museum has a unique and broad collection. I went in with low expectations and came out pleasantly surprised. The architecture of the facility is neat as well. The museum staff are quite friendly. If you’re on the fence, go.

Amazing!

By Matt W |

They have art here that's less common than in most local museums. They also offer a trip to the Zimmerman house, a Frank Lloyd Wright masterpiece in the area. Nice place.

A Small Gem in New Hampshire

By danthepoet |

I have ben to a number of the great museums in the world and The Currier might not be among them, not would they consider themselves so. But it is a wonderful collection in a beautiful building and a very important asset to the cultural life of New Hampshire. No one will be disappointed in visiting it and experiencing its charms first hand.

A wonderful museum; really worth seeing

By Ginny1234_5678 |

I thoroughly enjoyed visiting this museum. They had a fabulous exhibit of miniatures (and provided magnifying glasses with which to view them). Also, I loved seeing a Maxfield Parrish painting up close (which seemed to "glow."). All the exhibits were excellent, and I was fortunate to go there during "vacation week" when the admission prices were reduced. The museum is located downtown and provides ample parking. Highly recommended!

culture close to home

Great adventure, especially considering one can obtain free passes from their local library. Took my kids under 5, they were interested for about an hour.

Amazing art

By gerry C |

This museum never ceases to amaze me. Beautiful building, terrific permanent collection and interesting changing exhibits. AND tours of a Frank Lloyd Wright house. Gotta go see it!

Nice Surprise!

We visited here prior to flying back to Atlanta from our coastal tour of Maine. Especially enjoyed seeing 4 works by Monet as well as other impressionists.

Wonderful tour of Frank Lloyd Wright homes and Currier Museum of Art

By TaurusRising |

This is a small gem that we were lucky to see in August when we were in Manchester for a few days. We are into art/architecture, so when I realized that this museum was the “owner” if you will, of 2 Frank Lloyd Wright homes and they were available for tours, well, we just had to jump at the chance to sign up for a morning tour. The tour is limited to about 12 people and you take a short 5 minute van ride to the first house. The house tour is about an hour at each house, so 2 hours all together. The tour guides were fabulous and the houses were a delight to see and compare the style of both. Anyway, after the tour, you have access to the actual art museum, so we stayed there for another 2 hours. We also ate lunch in the little cafe. The day flew by for us and we had a very nice visit there. I would highly recommend the Wright tour. And please do yourself a favor and stay to tour the museum. They have very well curated pieces for being a more modest sized museum. We fell lucky that we got a chance to visit.

Worth A Trip To The Currier Museum Of Art In Manchester, NH

By NHWanderlust |

We went to see the Toulouse-Lautrec exhibit at the Currier Museum just on a whim, and I'm glad we did. The exhibit was very well-done, and the museum was not crowded, so we could linger a bit. There are many other fine pieces of art to enjoy here as well, so we made it worth the trip by wandering through the other collections. A very enjoyable visit.

Exciting!

By Drbrooks4337 |

The Currier is a vibrant, active, ever changing arts museum and venue. Unlike such cultural icons of yesteryear, it is worth visiting not only for their special exhibits and events, which are fabulous, but appropriately exciting whenever you go. You are sure to be surprised and engaged. There is even outside...

Museum

Great Museum for a small city! Enjoy visiting this museum at least yearly and the café is very good for lunch. Will go again as the exhibits change constantly.

Enjoyed the variety of art and friendly staff!

By Linda S |

Visited for the first time and enjoyed seeing the Monet exhibit-though small it was very well done. We used the free pass from our local Brookline Public Library and had lunch at the café--very good!

On a recent visit to Manchester,New Hampshire,I spent a delightful day at the Currier Art Museum enjoying its small, but impressive collection of Old Master European Paintings.Old Master European Painters with fine paintings at the Currier included Niccolo Pietro Gerini("Virgin and Christ Child With Saints and Donor",14th Century,Italian Trecento,)Lorenzo Costa(|Portrait of Lady"),Giovan Montorsoli(sculpture,"Saint John Baptist",Italian Renaissance),Jan( Gossart"Portrait of Man",Netherlandish Renaissance),Joos Van Cleve("Holy Family"),Mattia Pret(Martydom of Saint Sebastian",awesome Mannerism),Hendrick Goltzius("Helen of Troy")Matthias Stom("Judgement of King Solomon",Jacobus Vrel("Man Seated By Window"Dutch Master),Judith Leyster (:Boy Holding Grapes and Hat")Jan Molenaer("Card Players".Jacob Van Ruisdael(View of Egmond On The Sea".and Claude Vernet("Storm",among others.
I also appreciated its fine 19th and 20th Century European Art iincluding fine paintings by Claude Monet,Vincent Van Gogh,Pablo Picasso,Max Pechstein, and Georges Roualt, among others.
I also appreciated the helpfulness of the Currier Staff

Not extensive but still worthwhile...

By R K L |

The Currier Museum of Art was on our list of attractions in Manchester, but primarily for the purpose of seeing the two Frank Lloyd Wright homes. We clearly had not done our homework because upon entering the museum and purchasing our entry tickets we found out the tours of the Wright homes were sold out and required reservations. Nonetheless, we enjoyed the museum's galleries which were not extensive but still worthwhile.

Manchester's gem of an art museum!

By GeekMamaKara |

The Currier is fantastic for all kinds of art! They often have new exhibits that are new and exciting as well as the traditional style art that lasts lifetimes. They have a lovely little café in the museum as well, if you want to grab a bite to eat. Also, if you are lucky enough to live near enough, they have amazing art classes that they host for people of all ages and talents!

Picasso was a real treat as was the Wyath!!

A Visit to the Frank Lloyd Wright designed Zimmerman House

By nysue44 |

The Zimmerman House, which is now owned by the Currier Museum, is a rare example of a Frank Lloyd Wright designed house that can be visited in New England. Tickets for the tours of the house need to be reserved ahead of time. You meet inside the Currier Museum and are taken by van to the actual house. The docents are very knowledgeable and offer a lot of information about the house, its many original Wright designed furniture and the Zimmerman's who commissioned the house. This was a very rewarding several hours.

A gem

By bitteriron |

Museum is gorgeous, great collection of modern and traditional art. Has a Monet and a Picasso for those interested. Especially loved the current exhibit on the Baroque.

A fine museum with excellent exhibits and very inexpensive.

By leenyd |

I should go to the Currier more often than I do because I always have a wonderful time there. Some exhibits are short and sweet but others can last a very long time as there is so much to see. It's nice to take a break from the busy pace we are lead and just absorb the art and history. The eating area is open and bright with a very small menu, but very good and satisfying. The cost for what you get is amazing.

Great Day

By Snorkelbear |

This is a wonderful way to spend a couple of hours with the family. The white mtn exibit was very nice. Beautiful scenes from just 2 hours away.

Did not expect it to be this good

By Mitchell S |

Went here primarily for the Zimmerman House tour, but the Currier is larger than I thought with many fine pieces on display.

Be careful where you stand

By TwinMountain |

We visited the museum after our Wright house tours. I agree that the museum docents are paranoid and overbearing. I was asked to stand 6 more inches away from the painting I was looking at because maybe my elbows would bang into it. Another one ran over to warn me when I was trying to read some small print on a piece of a new map exhibit that I was closer than 12 inches to it. It was an uncomfortable experience, being followed and watched continuously. It was as if they don’t want people in there near their art. I guess we should have brought binoculars so I could have stood far away from their pieces and still see it. The whole experience was truly unenjoyable.

Gem of a Small Art Museum

By 407bcook |

The Currier has been recognized consistently as one of the best small art museums in the country, and continues to offer astounding variety and quality. It is a must for those visiting Manchester and New Hampshire.

Surprisingly Deep

By Grizingraz |

What a great surprise to find this museum in Manchester! We were visiting friends in the city and went upon their recommendation. A large variety of artistic periods and styles are exhibited here, from Middle Ages to Modern, altarpieces to Picasso, sculpture, furniture, photography and glass. Particularly valuable was the excellent curation and explanation. We did not use the audio guide, but that is available as well. Highly recommend! (I'd submit some photos but the mobile version of TripAdvisor is not giving me a deep enough option!)

Great Mixture of Various Types of Artwork

By kzsull01 |

My husband and I visited the Currier Museum of Art in Manchester, New Hampshire on Sunday, September 24th, while on vacation. This museum has a great mixture of various types of artwork.

The European Art on the 1st floor ranges from paintings from the 1200 time period to more modern times, all very well preserved and still vibrant. The collection of historic glass items, also on display on this floor, is quite impressive. The modern art on this floor is quite interesting, including the Paradise Lost new acquisition. The Monet and Impressionism exhibit, reflecting works by artists influenced by Monet is very interesting. The Monet Pathways to Impressionism exhibit reflects the different techniques Monet used in his paintings to progressively get to Impressionism. Four different techniques are on display with great supporting documentation. This exhibit is very nicely done.

The 2nd Floor includes American Art divided into different time periods, (1680 – 1815 and 1815 – 1915). The art includes a number of Hudson River Landscape Paintings all quite beautiful as well as collections of silverware, glassware, sculptures, powder horns, furniture and much more. Art exhibited in salon style is also on display with a corresponding booklet with write-ups describing the art.

This museum has a nice layout and is housed in an impressive building. All the art throughout this museum is nicely curated with very good write-ups providing excellent supporting background information with great details. This museum is definitely worth visiting and is recommended if you are in the area.

There is also ample free parking convenient to the museum.

Book Illustrators Special Exhibit

Currier a most interesting Museum, quite the little Gem tucked away in Manchester, NH

By Sandie F |

A wonderful small museum with the best exhibits. A a nice day trip without going into Boston. They always have the most

Never disappoints

By Bert W |

I’ve been to the Currier Museum maybe 5 to 7 times and I’ve always been entertained. Whether it something new or an old favorite you will find something you like in this small but enchanting local Museum. If you are in the Manchester area and have 2 hours - yes you can see everything and even enjoy a few minutes at one or so pieces with in 2 hours this is a great place to spend it. The tour is at 1:00 PM each day ( closed on Tuesday?) and will enhance your visit with some of the back stories and a few surprises. There are pieces from Monet and Picasso that were bound for Boston but “fell of a truck” and wound up there thanks to a curator simply known as - Tomas. - just joking. Go on the tour and really find out how they got there - the true story is even better. The exhibit from Saint Gaudens - Corning N.H. is enjoyable and is a lot closer too.

Museum is an easy day trip from Boston and well worth the visit!

By Voyager2480 |

I have lived in the Boston area for over forty years and this was my first visit to the Currier Museum. I am a lover of shoes, so I was drawn to the museum for the special exhibit on Killer Hills. I enjoyed the exhibit and learned about the history of heels. I toured the rest of the museum with a docent who was most informative and learned many things. This is a great little museum with some wonderful works of art in their permanent collection. Since the museum is truly an easy drive from the Boston area I will definitely be returning in the fall for another special exhibit. The museum does have a cafeteria style restaurant.

Great museum and architecture

By Jen8310 |

The Currier is a little gem of a museum in Manchester, NH. The major exhibition for this trip was the History of the Guitar. The older instruments were interesting, but the great rock and roll instruments were so much fun. Everything from a Les Paul to the Fender Stratocaster, with pictures of the great musicians playing. Well worth the time.

We also took the architecture tour of Frank Lloyd Wright Zimmerman house. Reservations are recommended for the small group of about twelve. A short bus ride to the location was a great way for the docents to give background on the house and builder. There are some strict rules because of the historical preservation however they did not impede the tour. Nice trip for FLW fans

Good core collection, horrible exhibitions

By Glenn M |

I live in the area. For years now their exhibitions have been uninteresting. They are focusing on diversity and underrepresented artists instead of talent. I want to see talent, skill and effort regardless of the artists background. A reed mat with 3/4 painted gold isn't showcasing impressive ability. Their main collection has nice peices though.

Such a treasure

By bangsibear |

This small museum is such an asset to the community. We come up from Boston for many of the special exhibits... and the fall 2016 show on Mt Washington was well worth the trip. The museum staff are always welcoming and friendly too. Close to the highway, convenient and easy parking, and a decent cafe. What's not to like?

Great place and staff

By NHDad86 |

The setting is quiet and sized to manage almost any length of visit. The staff is extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.

Better than you might expect

By Radsci |

This fine little museum in Manchester has a great variety of art, including European masters from many centuries, and some fine American art. Just the right size for a comprehensive visit without getting exhausted. They also have a Frank Lloyd Wright house which you can tour.

Several visits

By georgehT9080LV |

Small museum that is constantly changing it's venue . Right in Manchester . No worries about driving to and in Boston.Free parking and plenty of places to eat nearby.

Was pretty good

By MissyPA71 |

Overall we had a good visit but the flow felt somewhat disjointed in that it’s small and the pieces might be in rotation based more on internal inspiration rather than what you might see in a larger, permanent museum, with a more traditional grasp on placement. Only two rooms felt like they were put together with flow in mind. The rest felt like a hodgepodge scavenger hunt, but the facility is nice and for the area it does give some good vibes for those who appreciate the arts.

Small museum packs a lot of punch with great rotating exhibits

By IMG |

You don't have to go into Boston to see great art. Manchester New Hampshire has a jewel just off from Elm Street. Signs are well posted to get to the museum. They have a parking lot available and lots of interesting exhibits inside and out. They also have a link with local libraries to sign up for free passes on general admission. You do have to pay for the special exhibits however the price is not prohibitive.

Visited it and pleasantly surprised

By Candace9839 |

Popped by and visited it on a whim, so glad I did so. Interesting building, great art works, fab gift shop. will be back soon.

worth the trip

By tom k |

the currier museum of art is tucked away in a residential area of manchester, new hampshire. easy to access from major highways north. not a big parking lot but plenty of street parking if you dont mind a little walk. dont be fooled by its sizewhile the museum itself is small its collection and special exhibits make it a wonderful experience. some larger museums tend to overwhelm you with their collections and exhibits and a "stuffy" attitude, not so with the currier. two floors of well known and local known art work are tastefully displayed.the museum also hosts attention was paid to younger visitors with a special area with activities, videos and even a live feed from the top of mount washington, the subject of the special exhibit. admission prices offer discounts to seniors, students and free admission to children under 13 and active military. a bright busy atrium serves a wide variety of salads ,soups and pastries. not a lot of seating so eat early or late to insure a table. its a hidden gem in a northern city.

Lovely small art museum!

By JoanRuff |

We went to see the Toulouse-Lautrec exhibit on loan from the MOMA. A free, general guided tour of the museum was starting as we arrived and we were invited to join. It was an eclectic group and the docent was excellent in providing an eclectic, interactive group-directed tour! She shared that the collection changes frequently and that she recently came in and saw a visiting VanGogh. We saw Dutch masters, a large German tapestry, and many beautiful paintings of the New Hampshire region from the Hudson River School. The curator was trying a new style of mixing mediums and time periods of particular styles, which lead to interesting discussion. the Toulouse-Lautrec exhibit was a treat! We had tea in a lovely museum cafe and ended up spending about 3-1/2 hours in total at the museum.

A great local museum.

By orionhunt |

Lots of paintings from local artists. I look for special events and go to visit. One event that was amazing was the Samurai exhibit

If You're Bored With Nothing to Do

By ManchvegasDiner |

It has a few interesting pieces. What in heavens were they thinking about that monstrosity of iron beams gracing the entrance. It looks like something another muse must have discarded and sold for cheap. Staff played the usual and typical snooty part like in most museums. It's been around for some time as the more wealthy just love to hold black tie and gown soirees to raise money and keep it alive. I guess they are well intentioned. But don't visit along with a school field trip. The guides pretty much move slow as molasses and take the joy out the whole experience.

Gem of a Museum

By Doug N |

The Currier is one of the finest cultural destinations in New Hampshire. The early Beaux Arts architecture is complemented nicely with a Modern symmetrical addition. The collection includes early NH artists Edmund Tarbell, Augustus Saint Gaudens, Benjamin Champney and Abbott Thayer. William & Mary Scheier's work and a complete Frank Lloyd Wright house are among the Modern holdings.

The new Director, Alan Chong, has a varied and thought provoking schedule of exhibitions planned. This museum is a gem and a pleasant reminder of New Hampshire's interest in both global art movements and also our incredible regional legacy.

Display of guitars poor, cafe slow

By jo2take |

Came for exhibition of guitars which was very interesting. But many on the instruments had beautiful or interesting backs and there were no mirrors.

Cafe food interesting and freshly made. However slow delivery caused us to miss the tour start. Cashier kindly told me that complimentary tap ice water was available before ringing up my bottled water.

Small gem

By Ann L |

The Currier has a nice small collection, particularly American colonial art. Also, good regional art and artists. I happened in on a Jazz Sunday so the cafe was buzzing with activity. Since we moved locally, I joined up as a member---gentleman that helped me do so behind the desk was friendly and efficient. Looking forward to upcoming exhibits.

A great small museum

By DenBob33 |

We only live an hour away and don't get here often enough! Visited yesterday with out of town guests and all had a great experience. The special Monet exhibit although small (4paintings) is very informative. The other special exhibit by retired Dartmouth professor V Boghazian was most enjoyable.
The permanent collection is small but has many fine paintings including several by American Impressionists and several Hudson River School painters.

The Best Special Exhibits and More

By Susan P |

We have been to the Currier many years ago and returned recently to tour the Franklin Lloyd Wright house. The tour included admission to the museum. One of the visiting exhibits was on the history of the guitar. We thought it would be a quick walk-through and that we would have limited interest. Surprise, we spent an hour on this one exhibit. The variety of art suits many tastes. Parking is ample and the grounds are lovely. The gift shop is above average.

Jazz Brunch, really something special! Then, tour the museum and the Zimmerman House.

By lexmiller |

Jazz Brunch is held the second Sunday of each month - excellent food and excellent live music! We were just there, to take advantage of the special Monet exhibit before it closed - had brunch reservations at 11am - excellent! The setup is a buffet for salads, delicious pastries, juices, hot dishes, then you place your order for made to order omelettes with lots of options to put in them, made to order waffles and made to order pancakes. Bacon, sausage, all delicious! I was honestly blown away by the quality. And the pancakes were particularly yummy, buttermilk with that distinctive twang and beautiful fresh huge blueberries - well done!
After brunch, we toured the museum - it's a very manageable museum with a small but focused, well curated collection. The highlight was the Frank Lloyd Wright Zimmerman House. You must book your tickets in advance for this. You meet in the museum lobby and are taken in a small van to the house - excellent tour guide, the house is stunning, we learned so much.
All in all, a wonderful way to spend a Sunday - the Jazz Brunch, tour the museum, then tour the Zimmerman House.

The shoe expo was fantastic!

By Anna T |

The shoe expo was incredible! All imaginable kinds of footwear from different eras and parts of the world were represented and artfully placed in many rooms used for the expo. The displays were skillfully created to outline the role the shoes played in completing the costumes of their epochs. Multiple media was used widely and creatively.

Manchester Must See

By KevinJKayak |

It's a great local museum, a quick and easy trip. If you haven't the time to drive to the MFA in Boston, this is certainly a must see in the Manchester, Southern NH area. Suprisingly diverse collection. Takes about 2 hours to go though, so not too big, just right for an early afternoon visit.

Currier Museum, Manchester, NH

By RosieKatNH |

The Currier Museum is a must visit when in NH. The original art is tremendous for the State of NH. I recently had the chance to view the "shoe" exhibit. Very interesting as I didn't realize how the different type of shoes were used. Absolutely recommend.

A “Hidden Gem” in Manchester N H

By chandonnet42 |

A must see if you live in or are visiting Manchester. Closed on Tuesdays. Their collection of art and furniture is superb. Wonderful staff, gift shop and cafe. Special exhibitions are outstanding. A special feature connected with the Currier is its Art School with Summer and school year programs and camps. Hope you visit this “Hidden Gem”.

High quality small museum

By Pmack17 |

Very good small museum, with good collection of 19th century art, Hudson school work from the white mountains, and high quality exhibitions.

Terrific and lovely museum

By Natsfan24 |

This wAs a great visit. Nice collection of art, including some well know artists. Great collection of American modern as well as other pieces. Lovely building and really wonderful staff. Definitely a place to visit while in Manchester.

Just the right size

By Traveler999473829999 |

I am not much of an art museum-goer, but the Currier is just the right size for a casual visit, and has a nice variety of interesting pieces, from a beautiful collection of glass paperweights, to modern art including some gorgeous furniture pieces, to 18th century furniture and portraits. The only thing that would have improved the visit would be some more informative displays of background information (e.g., how the glass paperweights are made) -- there is an app that you can download with information and videos, but I prefer reading actual displays to sifting through an online collection of information, or listening to videos in the middle of a museum (which honestly just seems like an annoying/rude thing to do).

Beautiful jewel box of a museum

By Wlad K |

Compact and beautiful museum house in marble halls and stairs. Pleasant staffer opens the door as you step in from the lobby. We didn't know about the Zimmerman house connection, but enjoyed the Dutch and impressionist paintings, the special exhibit of Middle Eastern rugs, and a nice collection of modern paintings including Georgia O'Keefe. Allow time to visit with a few artworks and get to know them.

Entrance $15 for adults; parking is complimentary.

A Gem of a Museum

By rhawnhurster |

I agree with slabbs. I thoroughly enjoyed the Mount Washington exhibit -- what an introduction to the wonders and history of the White Mountains. But the permanent exhibitions of modern art, European Art from the Renaissance and beyond, and American art (with a special emphasis on colonial New England furniture) are also amazing. The curators packed a lot of great art into a small museum, and it is well worth the admission price.

I wished I had time to visit the Zimmerman House, but I must save that for the next trip.

Hidden Gem

By EilSat |

This art museum is lovely. The exhibits are well displayed. Not too hectic so there is plenty of time to look at the paintings and displays. Well work it.

Art & More in an Afternoon

By evilcomeevil_go_go |

I liked this museum. I spent an enjoyable afternoon perusing the various of art. It's not very big and I was able to view everything to my satisfaction in a few hours. Would recommend to anyone visiting the area.

SHAKESPEARE POTIONS EXHIBIT

By Maurene_K |

On this visit, I went for two exhibits. In my opinion, neither measured up to previous exhibits.

The Modern Art exhibit did not impress me.

The special exhibit “Shakespeare Potions: Library Focus Exhibition” was not what I expected. It was in a hallway downstairs. It consisted of info posters on the walls and some old apothecary books. The posters conveyed the idea that Shakespeare’s audience was familiar with certain herbs he alluded to, and they would know the effects of each.

After viewing the two special exhibits, I revisited some old favorite paintings and sculptures in the permanent European, American, Modern, and Contemporary collections. I especially like the works by Tarbell, Hassam, Lane, Hopper, Wyeth, Saint-Gaudens, and Remington.

So, for this visit, I would have to give a lower rating of 4.

I will wait for something more exciting before visiting again.

Currier Museum of Art

By Judi O |

I took my husband here as part of his birthday present and we spent hours viewing the art. Loved their exhibits. Well worth a visit for anyone who likes art.

Very Amazing!

By Carlos |

I was recently in the area for a little while and got bored so I googled a list of things to do in the area, This Museum came up and so kinda liking art I decided to take my daughter, The trip was better than I originally thought it wold be not really being that into art like I said. Me and my daughter had an amazing time though looking at all the very cool displays they have here. Would reccemend visiting even if you don't really have interests in art. Could still be a cool trip when bored!

Interesting place to visit

By Susan R |

Really enjoyed my visit here. Very diverse exhibition, with lots to see. Guess not much else to do in Manchester!!

If in New England, don't miss this art museum

By Mark H |

We took a tour of this art museum and were so excited that we decided to spend our first afternoon in this wonderful facility. The volunteer staff was so helpful and gave us a short tour and then let us go. Wonderful European art....great glass art collection and also an American Heritage collection. Special collection this month was a guitar exhibit that was lights out. Don't miss this art museum.

Small but interesting collection

By nancymaebe |

I arrived shortly before 1pm, when the daily tour meets at the front desk. Pleasantly surprised by the $12 admission fee, I stood a bit and was at first the only person on the tour, but was joined by a Russian woman currently living in Derry, NH. The docent was thrilled to have just the two of us so we could focus on conversation about the art. She showed us several pieces in each room and we chatted about form and content while she provided history of the piece.

I was impressed that although a lot of the European pieces were acquired just after WWII, they provenance and have been authenticated as NOT stolen/"missing" artwork. There is a small area of European works with some nice examples of Dutch still life (one of my favorite genres). Then contemporary, American, and local, with a changing exhibit.

It's no Louvre, but hey -- 12 bucks! A Monet, a Corot, a Picasso. A lovely cafe where I sat and had coffee in between the tour and my own re-wandering through the same rooms. Nice collection of gift items for all ages in the gift shop, coat check, family bathrooms.

Building was built as a museum and has some lovely mosaics in the floor and what was formerly the exterior. Lovely marble everywhere.

Worth a few short hours (1-3, if you want to add a lunch in there) if you are in Manchester.

Great museum

By Erica B |

Our whole family loves it here even our youngest who is 5 was very enthralled with all the art. We definitely plan on going again! The European art exhibit was our favorite!!

Stunning art.

Make sure you take in the Zimmerman house. Designed by Frank Llyod Wright, this home is truly amazing. The museum is amazing and the staff is friendly and helpful.

Great museum in Manch-Vegas!

By Marcia C |

I have only been to the Currier Museum a few times, even though I have lived in Manchester for 30 years. I don't know why I haven't gone more often though, since every time I go I love it. I went in March to see the Killer Heels Exhibit, and found so much more! I found a beautiful paperweight exhibit, and the artwork is lovely. They have a good flow through the museum, and residents get in free on Saturdays (certain exhibits are a small fee) it's a nice way to spend part of your day .they even have a small cafe.

Currier Museum always a nice surprise

By Laura L |

While visiting family in the area, I often pop into the Currier. I've seen the permanent collection and the Zimmerman House previously, as well as other special exhibits. I'm always pleasantly surprised by what I see in this relatively small museum. This last week I saw Killer Heels and the First Folio exhibits. First Folio was something I had never heard of. Basically, it's the original book documenting some of Shakespeare's plays. Impressive that the Currier has this. Killer Heels was good, too. While most of what's at this museum is great for kids, I came away thinking that the videos (which are easy to avoid) in Killer Heels probably aren't appropriate for the under 16's . The Currier is a great way to spend an afternoon or morning!

Cultural Gem

By kimstevens1958 |

I met my girlfriends at the Currier. This is a cultural gem. We enjoyed the paper exhibit very much. The gift shop is remarkable. There is a Sunday Brunch that looks tantalizing. I had as much fun at the Currier as I had at the Louvre in Paris. Charming museum. Thanks to our docent.

Great small museum. Staff was friendly and helpful. The price was reasonable. The exhibit was great.

Wonderful surprise

By Anita L |

We wanted to take our out of state visitors to somewhere interesting, not crowded and within 40 minutes of EXeter, NH. A trip to the Frank Lloyd Wright Zimmerman house and the art museum ($34, advance reservations) was an excellent choice. The docents, Jim and Sandy, were knowledgeable and hospitable. The museum had interesting displays, enough without being overwhelming. The personnel were welcoming and professional.

A quite time showing various forms of art....

Great place to spend a few hours looking at amazing art throughout the years of long ago....very quite place to enjoy all forms of art.......military appreciation is top notch....wife and I were let in for free and every 3rd Saturday of the month veterans get a free lunch.....thank you for having us ......

Good for a small museum

By Featheredfrends |

I have been to the major museums around the world. What is nice about the Currier is that you can see all the painting in an hour or two. There is a good collection of early Dutch and Flemish art. Some of the rooms were closed. I did not care for the modern art except I did enjoy the special exhibit by a professor from Dartmouth. I got the audio guide but only found a very few paintings with narration. Those were very helpful. The guide took several clicks for each painting which was a bit clumsy. There was a coffee shop and gift shop. I had a pleasant afternoon there.

Great Art work

By Andres72423 |

We stopped in because we really had no clue what to do when we visited Manchester and I am so glad we chose to do so. The building is wonderfully prepared and you are able to go from one area to the next and not miss anything. The art work presented was outstanding, how can one not be inspired and awed by the work of masters. In addition to all of the artwork they also have a snack shop which had live entertainment, which provided a respite and an opportunity to get a bite to eat while listening to some soothing live music(nice touch). I absolutely loved this place, 2 floors of art, from different time periods and parts of the world. If you are in Manchester, do yourself a favor and stop in, you won’t be disappointed!!! By the way, the people working at the museum were really nice and pleasant.

Relatively small but well done

By Paperfish |

I spent a great afternoon wandering through the Currier alone on a slow Saturday. They have admissions deals for NH residents, so check their website before you go if that applies to you. While the museum is certainly not big, their collection ranges across time and across the globe in a very consumable and enjoyable way. In addition, they get traveling exhibits and on-loan pieces frequently. For example, they had a four piece exhibit on Monet and his development over time, which I really enjoyed. Worth spending an afternoon taking your time through the art, instead of feeling like you have to rush to see everything, like it can feel in larger flagship museums.

Superb art collection in a beautiful building

By barry |

This museum houses, a diverse collection of artworks, including impressionists, modern artists, Hudson River school artists, and more. The building is beautifully restored with large spaces for viewing the art so you never feel crowded. We also took a tour to two Frank Lloyd Wright designed houses that the museum now owns. We can’t recommend the house tour too strongly. The docents, Dan and Scott on the day that we visited, were knowledgeable and delightful to listen to. The house tour is an added fee, but it’s well worth it. Be sure to book in advance because the size of the tours are limited.

Currier Museum of Art

By FamBelle94 |

Small art museum, but very well laid out with some nice pieces. I'm not particularly "artsy" but I enjoyed this museum very much. Just the right size to enjoy looking at the different art, but not so large as to get overwhelmed or bored with it.

Versatile Art museum

Interesting, diverse, & well displayed art. Beautiful building and knowledgeable staff. Loved the Frank Lloyd Wright tour!which is affiliated with the museum.

Wonderful Museum Experience - Great for Everyone!

By Kate |

This was my first visit to the Currier Museum. Funny, as a NH resident, I'm surprised to not have found this wonderful gem until now. We went primarily for the Shaker exhibit. It did not disappoint. There was so much information and so much to learn about the Shakers and their impact on the local community. The artifacts were fantastic!

I would definitely allow a few hours to work your way through the museum. It is very well laid out; they give you an easy to follow map so you can kind of "check off" what your've seen or prioritize your interests.

It was eclectic in that they offer Contemporary art, European, Early American. They have a great Normal Rockwell room on The Four Freedoms which included a unique modern-day spin. Definitely check out their web site for further info; too much to mention in a review.

You can make your way through the museum on your own, using headphones are via a tour. It was posted there was a 1:00pm tour, but when we got there, there was no docent available. Slight disappointment, as had I known, I wouldn't have scheduled our day around it.

We plan to come back in the Spring when we can visit the Frank Lloyd Wright house. We were told that the museum recently acquired a second FLW house, to be added to the tour, which is very exciting!

I think the Currier would be a really good visit for older school-age and above children. Not so much for little ones.

Helpful staff. The cafe was nice and affordable (soups, salads, sandwiches) Cafe staff very pleasant. The museum store was excellent. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to shop. We will next time though!

Great sized museum for the family.

By 3PNUTSinNH |

The museum has a nice variety of permanent exhibits and we enjoyed some of the recent temporary exhibit (paper cutting was amazing!

Watch for special exhibits

By Ellen K |

The museum's regular collection is varied enough to be interesting. Watch for special exhibits, which can be exceptional. For New Hampshire residents, check your local library for museum passes, which can make a real difference in affordability for families. The parking lot isn't very large; be prepared to park on-street nearby (no charge).

Great gem for Manchester,NH

By mumu3nh2 |

It is alway a pleasure to see what have on display. They own many famous painters. A good thing for a small art museum. I have bin a member of the museum for 20 plus years. I am very proud to part of such a wonderful museum. They have an art center that teaches kids and adults the joy of art.

Parker says, "Don't miss this great museum."

By Parker Sturbridge |

This is a "Baby Bear" of a museum....not too big, not too small....just right!!! Great, across-the-board exhibits from Monet to Medieval to Modern...and everything else in between. Not daunting or intimidating like some of the big city museums, this place has just enough of everything for visitors to thoroughly enjoy the art works. Dont miss this place, even if you're not a museum goer. It's the best.

Great visit

By PoePoeNana |

The regular collection at the Currier is always interesting. Recently, my friend and I viewed the special exhibit of NH illustrators /authors, Tomie dePaola, David Carroll, and Beth Krommes. What a great exhibit celebrating local artists. I have attended other special exhibits and have never been disappointed. There is a cafe where patrons can grab a light lunch, a well-stocked museum shop, and plenty of free parking. Well worth the price of admission. NH residents get in free the second Saturday of each month.

So glad I went here!

By DianneRN |

Delighted to see such an exceptional museum in my own hometown!Special show of world renowned sculptor/painter August St Gaudens was very well done! Impressive collections there!

First visit.

By Cyndi T |

My first time to visit an art museum. The setup was amazing and getting to see a Picasso and Monet was a treat! The staff was very helpful and took some time to explain the different artists.

Go once a month at least

By Gail B |

Thinking about becoming a member as the monthly brunch and art with music is an awesome deal and great way to spend Sunday or Saturday morning. SInce they acquired a new director this museum has had great artist/shows and other cultural events that make it a great place to spend time, relax, unwind and just take in all the beauty that surrounds you. Easy parking, helpful staff, great selection at the brunch buffets.

Very Good for its Size

By L9393NIrobertm |

The Currier Museum of Art is a rather small museum, but has some interesting paintings and sculptures, and some very good special exhibits.

We have been here before. It is to be noted that tours to the Frank Lloyd Wright Zimmerman House leave from the museum. A visit there is special, but we did not go on this trip.

We returned mainly for the Toulouse-Lautrec exhibit, which was very interesting and well done. In addition to the works by Lautrec it included videos from the period. A section contained lithographs of American magazines from the late 19th Century derived from contests, which was new information for us. .

The American collection of furniture and paintings is one of the better parts of the permanent collection. Part of the European gallery was closed when we visited.

The cafe in the winter court is a relaxing place for a light meal. We found some of the staff there lacking in hygienic practices.

Upon entering we received a friendly greeting, and the staff was nice throughout our visit.

One hour trip

By Marika Y |

Museum is small, but cute, has some nice good art pieces. Sometimes they offer new exhibitions, worth to go and check. Good for kids, not crowded. Cafe is a great addition, they serve sandwiches and mimosas.

A buffet of jewels to enjoy!

By Mary M |

The museum has a varied collection to enjoy. We also took a docent lead tour after strolling through it. The docent was enthusiastic. There is a cafe and the museum offers free admission for New Hampshire residents at certain times. A welcoming and charming place!

A Frank Lloyd Wright House - the Zimmerman House - is administered by the Currier Museum. I advise booking that tour in advance. It starts at the Museum and transportation to the house is provided by a small bus.

It truly has something for everyone.

Visit to Museum and Zimmerman House

By acestringer |

A great free museum with the opportunity to visit Frank Lloyd Wright's Zimmerman House for an additional fee.
Had a fantastic visit to the house, and if you like architecture or like me a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright, a visit to this house is a must.

Manchester NH ..a must see

By Carol C |

But…….
There was a security guard dressed in a kilt, long hair in a pony tail and heavy work boots. My husband and I (in our late 60’s ) simply wanted to enjoy the art but we felt very uncomfortable as he was literally following us throughout the museum! His heavy boots were so loud and we could feel his presence behind us in every section of the museum
The museum itself was lovely but the “security guard” made us so uncomfortable, we just left.

A gem of an art museum

By annetravel2014 |

Visited with local friends. Small art museum with some fine art exhibits. In the basement is a very good cafe - ideal for a lunch spot and can be used to rent for private functions.

High quality art museum with great exhibits

By Lynda B |

Fabulous place to visit for a few hours. Special exhibits are consistently impressive and educational. The little cafe is a great place for a little break and occasionally special events are hosted there, such as the second Sunday Jazz Brunch. Nice gift shop with high quality art supplies. We've enjoyed visiting once or twice a year from the time that our children were small and we moved to NH, and now that they are teens. Also great for an adult day out. You can stop in for 2 hours to see a special exhibit, or linger for 3-4 and enjoy all that the Currier has to offer. Definitely worth a visit!

White Mountains Exhibition

Great museum, an extensive collection worthy of a visit! Beautiful cafe on site. Free parking and great restaurants in Manchester.

Wowed by their Collection!

By srhahm |

2 of us visited & were wowed by their Collection: American, Contemporary, European, Baroque... nice cafe too. Staff throughout were friendly, helpful. The Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Zimmerman House was closed that day. Will return to see it!

Right sized museum with great collection of glass, New Hampshire artists and decorative arts

By 515devan |

Love visiting this museum. Most recent visit was to see the "Mount Washington: Crown of New England" exhibit. Huge collection of depictions of Mount Washington from virtually angle. Learned some interesting history while enjoying the works. Hint: museum has a small but diverse shop. Some surprisingly reasonable gifts for kids, holidays, or host/hostess gifts.

Great African beaded art earlier in the year and excellent galleries

By Keith W |

Great African beaded art earlier in the year and excellent galleries. Make sure to make reservations early if you are interested in the Zimmerman house guided tours. They are very popular and sell out quickly

always great

By Leslie B |

A lovely building, a great permanent collection and amazing exhibits. Lots of activities for people of all ages. A nice gift shop. There's a cafe where you can catch lunch and it incorporates the original facade of the building which is beautiful. Go there.I visit at least twice a year.

Very nice day out

By deborahanne34 |

A little bit pricey for a fairly small museum, but the art is really beautiful and well chosen. We did not pay to see the special display, however, because the combined expense was just too high for a single day. Nevertheless, the regular exhibits were worth the cost.

What is this place?

By pvtsam1775 |

My boyfriend and I wanted something relatively local to do on our day off. We had both never visited the Currier, and we weren’t quite sure what to expect.

For what it is, the Currier isn’t terrible. The galleries are bright and well lit, the building is easy to move around, the staff is friendly, and the art is beautiful. However, there are a few things that disappointed us.

For one thing, there was a serious lack of representation of New Hampshire art and artists. We were expecting to see more related to Saint-Gaudens and Maxfield Parrish, or perhaps a bigger emphasis on early Portsmouth-made furniture.

But overall, the space and collection just felt…disjointed. It would seem that this is a museum that doesn’t quite know what to do with its collection. Pieces are grouped together based on very loose themes, and the galleries don’t flow. Exhibit labels give very little background and context, and it’s not clear why or how pieces were grouped together. We did appreciate that there seems to be an accession number on every label; that’s unique for a major art museum. In general though, the spaces feel more like a modern gallery than a museum; as a historian and former museum professional, this was disappointing.

It was also unclear why certain exhibits were chosen, or what the museum’s interpretive and educational goals are for the collection; the “The Living Forest: Uyra,” for example, felt more like a hallucinogenic trip than an art exhibit, and did not seem to fit in with the rest of the pieces on display.

The entire experience took us less than an hour, so if you plan to visit, plan another activity to do after. We opted for lunch at the Puritan, which is close by. I’d also recommend this museum to folks who have much more of an appreciation for contemporary art than I do.

Always something new

Many people do not know we have a museum in the heart of Manchester. The Currier museum is informative and does a lot of good work for the community.

The Cafe was a nice place for lunch and a break.

In My Back Yard

By Glenna N |

I can walk to the Currier Museum from where I live here in Manchester NH. I always wanted to go there. When my sister was up visiting me from FL we went there Fall 2016. We saw the Mt Washington Exhibit and so much more. We went on a dossier tour and I would highly recommend that. We also ate at the Garden Cafe. It was very nice! The food was fresh and delicious. I would also recommend spending several hours there to see everything.

Wonderful place to visit

By YC88 |

Wonderful collections!!!! Enjoy all of them, and had a great time. My only disappointed was the unfriendly and rude gift shop employee (especially the one who worked on 12/30/2017). She made my trip incomplete, it almost be perfect trip, but she messed up. I really like the art made of glass, I was so happy and exited that the gift shop sell glass art, so I bought one immediately, I continued to check on those glass art ,because I wanted to buy more . And she came to me and talked to me rude: do not touch all of them, especially when you touch the inside one ,you will break the one in the first row, the tone sounds very rude, my face became red suddenly, and then I was thinking I was not a rude customer, touch things and not buying, I was about to buy more , and as a customer I have right to Check and buy things. She should not talk to me like that, I felt I was insulted by her.
Because of that I did not buy more. It also looks like she wanted to go home and was not happy about other customers and I were still in the store. That is totally a BAD customer service.

Small but wonderful

By Richard M |

After living in NH for over 40 years, finally decided to visit the Currier Museum. What a wonderful surprise. It was not overwhelming, but had some wonderful exhibits. It was easy to wander and was surprised at the quality of the exhibits, would not have guessed. Spent a few comfortable hours wandering around, it should only take a few hours for the museum itself. It's possible to spend more time but that is up to you as to how fast you want to move through the exhibits. It also has an additional exhibit that costs a few dollars more and takes about 1 1/2 hours to see (it is a house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright). You have to take a shuttle to this exhibit. Next time we go will more than likely do this. For NH residents if you go between 10 am and 1 pm on a Saturday your admission is free. Was surprised at the number of people (most from out of state) that were visiting this very nice museum. They also have a cafe that serves sandwiches, soups and salads - very good.

Pleasantly surprised

By Scott F |

I've noticed the sign for the museum for years along RT 93, but never had time to stop. At first I thought it was Currier & Ives and my reaction, who would want to see a museum of those cards. Finally, made plans to visit after checking it out on line. What a wonderful surprise.

It is a relatively small museum which is curated perfectly. However, we were told only about 10% of their collection is on display at any time. Lots of room to really enjoy the exceptional quality of the collection. Lighting was superb. My wife commented on how many artists were women, that and a good deal of artists I wasn't familiar with made the experience an art adventure.

The European paintings were heavy on the Dutch and a delight. From room to room we wandered lost in the beauty and grace of the works and who they were presented.

A temporary exhibit of cut paper was incredible. It is hard to convey the intricacy of the work.

While there a group of elementary school children came in and had a wonderful time in at the cut paper exhibit.

We spent a wonderful few hours enjoying everything at our leisure without the crowds one expects at larger museums. Our time was so well spent we took out a membership which will save us money when we come back this spring to see what is new and tour their Frank Lloyd Wright house.

A real gem in the Queen City

By responsibletravel |

We wanted to see the special White Mountain Exhibit. That was extensive and very well laid out. Great descriptions and history on each piece. The rest of the museum was a delight too. Lots of early American paintings and furniture and a European gallery. The museum is well laid out and not too big that you can't see it all in a few hours. It's very attractive inside and out. I would definitely look to go back for other special exhibits they bring in.

Not just another art museum

By beemanWinchester |

This was well worth the trip to Manchester. We went on the tour that is offered and I wish all museums did this. Our guide was very very good. Quick and got us through it all with enough info at each room.

A gem!

By Jkeyd |

The Currier Museum has a lot to see, but isn't so huge that it's exhausting. The cafe offers light lunches and snacks so a visit can not get cut short by hunger. Most of the museum displays the permanent collection but a large space has travelling shows for repeat visits. If you have time a bus provides transport to a Frank Lloyd Wright house for tours.

Gem of a museum!

By JBBopp |

This museum is a little gem. It manages to have a good deal of breadth and have tailored that breadth to its size. They have practiced very smart and thoughtful curating. My visit was a lovely experience.

Beautiful building, good collections, Frank Lloyd Wright house tour.

By cjaorme |

Great mid-size museum - the building is lovely, terrific permanent collection & interesting exhibits. The Frank Lloyd Wright house tour is a real gem - not to be missed (book ahead). Very good cafe on premise, good stop for lunch before or after touring the museum. Docents & staff are excellent.

Remarkable local artists

By cabosenior |

Special section on local New Hampshire artists; live preparation of ongoing exhibit on "Hauling" was interesting for those who can view an exhibit in production.

An underappreciated gem in the middle of Manchester

By Sasquatch1971 |

The Currier Museum of Art contains an eclectic collection of Western art, from the 1500s to the 2000s. Works of art are nicely spaced so that a visitor does not have to bump their way through crowds to view the art up close. A leisurely tour through all the galleries takes 2-2.5 hours. There is a cafe on premises that is located in a large, airy space; it has a good menu. The gift shop has a good assortment of books and souvenirs. Our friend who lives in Manchester told us that only 10% of area residents have visited the Currier. If you're in the Manchester area and have a couple of hours to spare, don't be like the 90% of residents who haven't been to the Currier. You'll be glad you visited.

Impressive museum

By srhenry26 |

I was very impressed with the quality and quantity of the museum works. The titled works and interpretations were fascinating and so educational. I’ve lived in NH for over 40 yrs and never knew this wonderful facility was here. I plan to revisit with other friends and family especially the Frank Lloyd Wright houses.

Quaint little art museum

By Dorothy A. |

Much smaller museum than most, as compared to Boston. A great place to visit close to home though for an afternoon out. Worth the admission price & memberships for the year are reasonable as well.

Nice museum.

By davedave |

Lovely experience. A short walk from the Ash Street Inn where we stayed. Loved the paintings by Picasso, Monet, Hopper, Moses, Wyeth and more. Loved the exhibit of historic Islamic rugs. We were glad that the museum requires Covid vaccination and face masks - my wife and I are vulnerable and so glad to be comfortable in the museum's environment. We plan to return this summer to tour the museum's Frank Lloyd Wright homes.

Special and informative

By BosleyJay |

Not expecting to find a fantastic Frank Lloyd Wright home in Manchester, NH. When perusing the web site for he Currier Museum, was excited to see the chance to tour a Usonian home by Wright. The admission fee gets you into the museum, which has some very important works for a small museum, and a guided tour of the home which is now owned by the museum. A short ride with a very knowledgeable guide delivers you to the home. To try to describe all the unique, creative, practical, foresighted and beautiful aspects of the house would fail to do it justice. Wright may have been an egoist, but he was also a genius. In this house it shows. Even if you know nothing about Wright and his works, this house will give you a lot to think about.

You can't beat the courier in quality and variety!

I love the career and it's so nice to have a museum of this quality in Manchester. Make sure you visit the Zimmerman house and the gift shop! They are always rotating their exhibit so you never get bored coming here! Highly recommended!

Hidden gem

By Susan K |

This museum is an overlooked hidden gem in Manchester. The displays are diverse and contain an excellent collection of European and American art, as well as revolving exhibits. The building itself deserves attention for its architectural style. Unfortunately, even in Manchester, many people don't know about this museum. It's certainly worth touring, whether you are a visitor to Manchester or a resident. It also contains a cafe and a museum store.

Vaccine to view art, wtf?

By Anthony |

Covid vaccine required to enter. Very disappointing. Who ever runs this museum is clearly brainwashed or just brain dead!

Nice Museum

By Frank D |

always a nice place to visit and relax. the exhibits are always interesting and changed enough to visit on a regular basis. great for the community!

Killer Heels

By GAD61 |

Awesome exhibit! Whether Killer Heels, Maxfield Parrish, a 911 Photo Exhibit, or just an everyday exhibit, the Currier never disappoints and is a true gem of Manchester's art community.

Great Sunday visit

By Cagrog |

We started with the Jazz Brunch and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and the full buffet omelets. Had time for an all-too-quick tour of the galleries before our scheduled Zimmerman House tour. The Zimmerman is the only Frank Lloyd House open to the public in New England. Mid-century modern down to the Revere pots in the kitchen. The Currier is a good small museum with some excellent works. We will return to spend more time in the galleries.

Worth the visit

By Kevin M |

the building is beautiful inside and out and the exhibits and fine art are certainly worth Visiting this museum in Manchester NH.

The brunch was great. The bartender was actually what made it so great!!! We go for a girls weekend once a year and it's always awesome!

Excellent small museum

By Elaine O |

If you're anywhere in the area, take time to visit the Currier. The permanent collection is small but very well rounded and beautifully hung. Special exhibits are always worth the trip.

I would have never have expected . . .

By Marty Lou |

Who knew that a city with a population that is 1/10th of Phoenix, AZ would have a museum of this caliber?? There were paintings by artists deserving of the title "the masters" of their era. I cannot imagine the money that went/goes into the acquisitions in this library. There is a painting called The Martyrdom of St. Bartholomew by Mattia Pretti that is breathtaking and there are portraits from what I would guess to be the Dutch masters, but they, too, seem to draw you to them with their eyes. The museum houses beautiful things from all eras. We were there on a Monday and it was not crowded at all. Don't miss the tour of the Frank Lloyd Wright house that leaves from and returns to the museum. (Tickets must be purchased in advance and the tours are small (the house is tiny), so plan your trip in advance.) Enjoy!

Museum not to miss

By nh7842 |

A great museum tucked away in Manchester
Fine paintings easily seen and toured, American artists, and even picasso!

Small but enticing

By Nancy C |

This museum is a must see. It has an amazing variety of exhibits. I loved the grandfather clocks exhibit., mostly handmade in New England . We have one in our family that could be right at home here. The gift shop is well stocked and the cafe's menue is small but my sandwich was delicious.

Saw the Mount Washington exhibit

Wonderful museum with examples of many famous artists. We very much enjoyed the special exhibit of paintings of the Mt Washington and surrounding countryside beautifully painted and explained.

Good Local Museum

Great collection

By Alexandre1998 |

Excellent collection of European, American and modern art! This museum was relatively quiet when I visited, and had friendly and helpful staff. I would highly recommend this as the top attraction in Manchester.

Excellent Saint Gaudens exhibit

By Kathleen O |

This museum is a gem and worth the drive from Boston. Fabulous Saint-Gaudens exhibit, but the whole museum is of interest. Great day trip.

Interesting exhibits

By DeborahandAndy |

We enjoyed a couple of hours in the Currier Museum of Art- Had a very informative docent tour. Also saw the Monet exhibition and a few American artists who were influenced by him.Worth a visit!

Little gem

By lurkee |

This place ranks in the same 'small individual museum' genre I would put the Morgan in NYC, Isabella Stewart in Boston or Wallace Collection in London. The variety and curation of the eclectic art collection is to be highly commended with a very strong selection of American and international artists whether lesser known or 'big names'. The current exhibitions on paper cuts and Soo Sunny Park are novel and interesting whilst the German Expressionism element of the Pechstein exhibition is very well curated. I will be back!

Schedule adequate time for this treasure

By Walter S |

We had a few days added to our tightly scheduled trip and had not planned for anything to do....and we found this delightful museum.
It has an impressive array of resident artworks and some very nice pieces on loan. We spent several hours and unfortunately, didn't have any more time.
We would highly recommend this as a must do when in the area.

Wonderful collection, beautifully curated.

By Stephanie C |

We did the Zimmerman House tour followed by a highlights tour of the gallery. I was so impressed by everything this gallery has to offer. The space is beautiful and the collection is terrific for a small gallery. I was particularly impressed with the knowledge and passion demonstrated by all of our guides. I would visit again in a heartbeat.

A Real Gem

By Warren F |

I saw that someone else wrote that this museum is a gem, and I concur. Wonderful collection, I really loved my experience here. I was shocked to see Edward Hopper's final painting, which I've previously only seen and read about in books, here in Manchester, N.H.! And there was another Hopper that I wasn't even aware of. There was a Childe Hassam that I loved, and excellent Hudson River School paintings and great American art, in general, and a blue crucifix in the European Renaissance collection (I never before saw a blue crucifix in any art collection). The whole collection is so well and thoughtfully put together and presented. And the building itself is beautiful.

World Class!

By PleinAirGal |

Although it's small, The Currier has a world class collection of historic and contemporary art in all genres. Their special exhibitions are always well organized and interesting. They also have a small but fabulous gift shop with a great variety of items in various price ranges.

Beautifully displayed collections of art, furniture and decorative arts.

By Stuart S |

A great way to spend a couple of hours with either self-guided or docent led tours. Couple it with a package tour of the Frank Lloyd Wright Zimmerman house for a full afternoon experience.

Excellent Modern Art

By Edward L |

A bit expensive at $15 a person, but the modern art section was excellent. They do have tours, so check out their website, or you can listen using your phone to experts discuss a few of the pieces of art. The American section was not as interesting. If you have been to The Metropolitan Museum of Art and are expecting the same type of experience, you will be disappointed, but if you enjoy a variety of art, this is a must stop in New Hampshire. Make sure to book the Zimmerman House on line. It is worth the extra $10 to take that tour.

Sunday jazz brunch

This event was amazing! A jazz guitar player was there and played for a few hours. He sang a little bit but it was not distracting. The food was great and the wait staff did a fantastic job! Overall great experience!

Impressive, Up to Date and Comprehensive Mid-Sized Museum

By Pbatwood |

The building is a mixture of an old core surrounded by modern additions that blend into a coherent and interesting whole. The space inside has some small, intimate rooms and large, airy ones for the range of exhibits on display. You won't find an overwhelming collection of old masters (see Boston's MFA) but some fine examples of lesser known artists covering the range of classical realism to modern abstract and folk art. Fine New England furniture and crafts and some stunning sculpture add to the variety. No matter what your taste in art, you'll find something to capture your imagination.

World class museum

By flaneur40 |

It has an obligatory Picasso and a early Medieval religious painting in the European section. The American art is quite good, especially the miniature portraits in watercolor on ivory. If you like Frank Lloyd Wright, the Museum owns the only house he designed in New England that is open to the public. There are docent tours.

The Toulouse-Lautrec exhibit at the Currier was AWESOME !

By Susan C |

Enjoyed the Toulouse-Lautrec prints and posters exhibit. Almost as good as going to the artist-centric museum in Albi, France.

Great Museum

By Noretta F |

Love the Currier Museum! They had a high heel exhibit, which was fantastic! The main collection was great as well. The employee were very nice and helpful. We had a snack at the cafe and the food was very good.

Nice surprise, great gift shop

By nancy w |

This is not a large museum, but well-worth the stop if you like art. Nice array of art, well displayed and a great gift shop. We spent about 2 hours at the museum. We are less interested in modern art, so if one is interested, you might allow more time. I liked the European and the American art, and the examples of American /New England furniture. There was a special short film called The Raft. Husband complained at first, but after I made him stay for it, he was happy he stayed. (It ran 10 minutes). Cost was $15 per person (adult) and was worth it. I found more items in this gift shop than I have found in larger, prominent art museum shops. The local description on the tourist magazines does not do it justice.

Interesting museum

By Travelta123 |

Good quality museum with nice artwork. It's not very large and can view the exhibits in a couple hours.

Always filled with creativity!

By Carolingual |

This is a wonderful part of the charm and culture of Manchester. Not only does the museum have an impressive collection, there are always new exhibits running through. Additionally, there are often events that are fun for the community. And don't forget the STELLAR visits to the Frank Lloyd Write House!

Wonderful

By travelzoom2016 |

The 2 Frank Lloyd Wright home tours are worth the price of admission. Very informative and friendly guides! They really knew and loved the homes. God Bless the two donors that made it possible to view these 2 unique homes. The museum was nice but a few times it was uncomfortable with the staff hanging over your shoulders. I understand they need to make sure the art is protected and people can and will be disrespectful but some staff members were much better than others doing their jobs without being in your space. Also note If you get a chance, please do try the cafe.

Always fulfilling.

Offering Saturdays to residents for a small donation really promotes visiting. I think this is a wonderful perk.

Frank Lloyd Wright tour plus so much more

By Janichic |

We had booked the tour of the two Frank Lloyd Wright houses and arrived at the museum with plenty of time to explore. It has a great and varied collection.

Great place to visit!

By Edward P |

Museum workers are very friendly and helpful, there is convenient parking, very interesting exhibits.

Great museum!

By Linda C |

We try to visit about every five or six months and never tire of the beautiful artwork and beautiful furniture in this museum that is very well done. And we like the change up of displays

Great museum for small venue

By Crystal W |

This is a great place to visit for beautiful art and introducing young friends to the world of art. They also host many wonderful events, plenty of fun for all family, ages, and backgrounds.

Currier Museum of Art

By Ron S |

It's a small museum. They have a few Dutch Golden Age paintings, Judith Leyster among them. We missed their tour of Frank Lloyd Wright houses as the group is small and the tickets must be reserved well in advance but we drove down there to take a look at those.

Nice surprise

By John M |

We went to the museum thinking that the currant showing would be more about Manchester. It wasn't :( but the place had a lot of VERY nice exhibits and the building was VERY nice.

Totally enjoyed

By debk6184 |

I really enjoyed visiting the Currier Museum. Don't know why but I did not expect to see so many beautiful pieces in Manchester. The Urban Landscapes exhibit was quite good. I was also lucky enough to tour the Zimmerman house, which was absolutely great. A very enjoyable visit.

Great variety of art in a very pleasant setting with nice staff

By scottcaps |

We spent a pleasant hour prior to our scheduled Zimmerman House tour perusing the art in the museum. We did not have time to read about all the displays, but we strolled and enjoyed the nice variety of modern art, American, European, furniture, paintings, glass, and sculpture. The special exhibit of book illustrators was interesting. There is a gift shop and a cafe, though we did not get anything from the cafe to provide comments on the offerings, but it was certainly a nice setting. All the staff we encountered were nice and helpful. A bonus to see the exhibits in the museum since the admission was included in our house tour tickets. Free off street parking.

Cute little museum

By Meagan C |

The museum looked brand new and is small but pristine. There was a larger variation of artists than I expected. I absolutely loved it and bought a year pass.

Good place to see!

By Jan K |

This museum is a beautifully designed building with varied collections that would be interesting to a wide audience. It is the perfect size; not too big but large enough to create an experience. There is a small gift shop and a large, delightful center sunken room that has soft drinks and food. The day we visited a gentleman was playing the guitar. He is great and we sat and listened for quite a while at the end of our museum walk.
Also: all military and family have free admission

Worth the trip, impressive museum in Manchester NH

By Anna S |

Great museum, good size - not too big, interesting collection and a fantastic display. We spent a wonderful hour there, admiring the art and reading about the different item. Highly recommended!

Very nice museum

By sullific |

We went to see the Frank Lloyd Wright houses but the museum is just small enough to get most of the rest of the museum in also. Lunch at cafe also very good. The only museum I have ever been in where staff members run to open doors for you. Very nice experience. Good gift shop. All in all, a great way to spend a day.

A superb collection!

By jpar3 |

A fabulous art collection of many genres, in a beautifully designed building, both the original museum and the addition. The Zimmerman House, by Frank lloyd Wright, under the museum's care, is well worth a visit.

A Small Gem Of A Museum

By walshgolfmw |

My wife & I visited the Currier Museum and it was on Saturday, and unfortunately we couldn’t get reservations to the Zimmerman House. It turned out to be a two day museum tour. The Currier Museum had so many unique memories that I not going to spoil my review. The museum was a real treat to us, but we were disappointed not being able to see the Zimmerman House on the same day.

We were in town for a corporate event and enjoyed the afternoon here!

By Local World |

A very nice mix of American and European art here, both contemporary and classic. Good emphasis on local, regional art and crafts, too. We were here during the Shaker exhibition of articles and furniture from Canterbury and Enfield, NH. Great stuff!

Great place to get married!

By Rob B |

We were looking for some place different for our wedding and The Currier was perfect! Our event coordinator helped out with every detail, the setting was beautiful. We and our guests were so impressed!

Two Frank Lloyd Wright home tours and a wonderful museum experience.

By Diane B |

Our visit to The Currier Museum included a visit to The Zimmerman and The Kalil houses designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. First kudos to the Docents who were so knowledgeable and enthusiastic, making the experience THE best. The homes are completely remarkable, quite different, and so welcoming. Even in the rain, viewing them from their back yards gave a valuable feel of residing there and total appreciation of the art of design. A must do for art, architect, and design enthusiasts!

Picasso to Frank Lloyd Wright

By PM6 |

This is a superb small museum with some significant works including a large Picasso.
The Frank Lloyd Wright Zimmerman house forms part of the collection and is a must see.
A great light cafe, friendly staff, beautiful building makes for a great day in Manchester

Pretty good Museum to visit

By leaton01 |

A small but enjoyable art museum focusing mostly on American and Western paintings. They have a mixture from medieval to modern and some great displays.

A treasure

By sasnhe |

This museum has an excellent permanent collection and wonderful temporary exhibits. The Zimmerman House, the only Frank Lloyd Wright house in New England open to the public, is a must see. There is an excellent cafe and gift shop.

Enjoyable outing

By bolild |

Widely varied collection of art with something to appeal to most. Fun gift shop. The tour of the Zimmerman house was very interesting and a great example of flw work, but enjoyment was somewhat dampened by what felt like an overzealous security detail. For 8 visitors, 2 guides and a grave faced, lurking, and handsignalling security officer. The guides were knowledgeable and enthusiastic, but seemed somewhat nervously attentive to the silent handsignalling of the very serious security person.

surprisingly good and interesting art museum

By Richard R |

Our fault, but we had never heard of this place; were in Manchester to see family, but decided to go when the weather was bad. It is well worth a visit for both the permanent collection and the interesting current ones (Monet, well presented and informative); Boghosian; and a sculpture that one walks through). The building itself is also elegant.

a very nice experience

By Bruce603 |

Toured the museum for the first time and had a wonderful experience. The facility is attractive and well maintained, exhibits are well displayed and presented and the snack area is very nice.

Saturday Visit

By NapDonna |

My husband and I went to the museum on the second Saturday of the month when it is free for New Hampshire residents. The museum is small compared to other museums that we have been to, but we enjoyed the exhibits, especially the furniture exhibits from colonial times.

Gem of a museum

By William B |

We were suddenly without plans one weekend and decided to go to the Currier. What a nice surprise and great exhibition. And it has parking and is easy to get to. We will be back.

Check it out!

By James B |

Great way to spend an afternoon. Very well maintained, wide range of pieces spanning many periods. A smaller museum, so "self guided" tours are just fine. the museum has a great website, and new exhibits regularly. Well worth the $15 admission price, plenty of parking.

Lunch at the Cafe

By Melissa L M |

Went for the first time with a member and had a wonderful lunch at the cafe and then walked that lunch off in the museum. I'd consider getting a membership just for that

disappointed

By Laurie C |

Disappointed! I went to see their Monet only to find out that it had been placed in storage- despite the fact that it was STILL listed on their website. Other exhibits were ok but I had my heart set on Monet......

This is a MUST SEE place while in Manchester!

By Judywofderry4 |

The Currier building/architecture is worth the trip...never mind the ever-changing displays. There is also the Frank Lloyd Wright house that is part of the Currier thatyou can sign up to tour BUT those reservations must be made in advance.

A delight......

By FussyofWales |

This is a great place to visit. Really interesting collections, old and modern. Exhibits are well displayed in a spacious building. Great cafe, super helpful staff. The Zimmerman house is just wonderful. The gift shop has a really good range of high quality gifts.
I was lucky enough to be there on one of the Museum's evening openings, where there was music, a bar, and a great atmosphere. Fantastic to see Picasso, Hopper, Matisse etc in such intimate surroundings. Would have happily gone back for a 2nd day if time permitted!

Excellent exhibition of the white mountains

By dfharris |

This special exhibit of White Mountain art is impressive. We had lunch in the cafe and was delicious and not expensive

Superb Small Museum

By Anne N |

This is a delightful, small, architecturally distinguished museum with a varied collection of art, a great staff, plentiful parking. an inspired museum shop, and some of the best wall cards I've ever seen! For those of us who appreciate some context for the art we're viewing, the wall cards are a gift. My husband and I spent several hours here exploring the building and the art, and reading the exceptional insights of Currier curators. The museum's collection is extensively digitized, so you can get a taste of the art on exhibit and the strong points of the collection ahead of time. The museum's cafe offers appealing food in a very special courtyard setting. Be aware that tours of the Frank Lloyd Wright Zimmerman House leave from here--don't miss it!

Free with BoA card

By Omnipresent |

A few of them were really nice, and overall the curator has nice taste. Free if you have a BoA card. A diverse selection of modern, contemporary and renaissance.

The Saint Gaudens Exhibit is astounding

By PhDRN |

The contextual components explaining Saint Gaudens work both visually and through interpretive signage were fabulous. The full bust studies of Shaw and some of the soldiers were worth the visit alone- if you, like I, love the Bronze relief of Shaw and the 52nd Massachusetts Regiment, this section of the exhibit is worth the visit alone.

Visitors are able to get close to the exhibited sculptures and examine the stunning work. Plaster casts juxtaposed with bronze castings allows for some comparison of the intricacies of the work. Sketches, scale drawings with measurements, and a displayed sculpted wood/metal, and semi precious stone panel from JJ Astor's home also illustrates the depth of Saint Gauden's abilities.

Letters to Saint Gaudens from President Theodore Roosevelt are fascinating and funny.

Saint Gauden's Historical Site in Cornish NH is one of our favorite places- the bronze relief of the 52nd Regiment there and in Boston always makes me weep- and we have seen a lot of Saint Gauden's work in context (i.e. NYC) so we could have been bored. Not at all....The Currier's display is a not to be missed exhibit.

Two interesting Frank Lloyd Wright Houses.

By kmehl |

We visited the Frank Lloyd Wright Houses that the Currier Museum owns. The tours were conducted by two docents who did a fantastic job. Background information on the original owners, how Frank Lloyd Wright became the architect and how the homes came to be part of the museum. The two houses are very different and provide insight to two of Wright’s designs. I have visited a number of Wright properties and I recommend visiting here. The museum is included in the tour price so you can explore before or after the tour. There is a nice cafe in the museum.

Fine museum experience and the Frank Lloyd Wright house tour was great!

By hrs |

Small museum but interesting art collection. Great for a couple of hours of fine art viewing.

But what is truly exceptional is the tour of two Frank Lloyd Wright houses in Manchester NH. The Zimmerman House is truly special. And the Kalal House is at the very least a fascinating example of a modular design specifically developed for middle class FLW clients. Having these two houses connected to the museum makes it truly worth the trip. Must have reservations to go on the house tour as they only take up to 10 people at a time.

came for freidns weddign at the gallery

By E4987KVnicolea |

Was so beautiful and pristine - loved looking around at all the art pieces, was a wonderful place to get married!

Delightful and interesting

By Green1Ma |

This is not an overwhelming large museum, but the collection is so varied and well done, it is worth a visit. In the hour and half we were there we saw Picasso, Copley and Sargent paintings, American furniture, contemporary ceramics, Tiffany glass, antique silver and current installation art that surrounded the exterior of the building with bright blue trees.. I like that there are cards available to look up details on most often objects on display. It was not crowded and I was able to linger and read about things that I do not normally study or know about. There is a lovely winter garden with a cafe, plenty of free parking, a nice gift shop and the rest rooms are outstanding. All in all it was great place to spend a winter day.

Absolutely Fantastic!

By ZeeAviatrix |

The Currier Museum of Art blew me away! I was so impressed at all the different exhibits and the variety of art. I was so happy to see some art from the Masters and classic art. There were lots of pieces from Dutch artists and other European artists, including an original Monet which was a big surprise. I would have bought a book, but unfortunately, the museum shop was closed for inventory. That was bad timing. There is an exhibit of miniature watercolor portraits on ivory which was amazing. My niece and I spent at least 2 1/2 hours there enjoying it all. The artwork is well laid out throughout the museum. This museum is a treasure and ranks top on my list!

Killer Heels

By dbirdie817 |

Great exhibit.Surprise that it was interactive You can draw shoes and leave comments about your shoe experiences. The videos added on to the experience

The special exhibitions were lovely but the base ones were well worth a visit.

By Mike C |

A gem of a museum with wide ranging art from Early European to Constable to Van Gogh to Monet to modern.

The restaurant is lovely with a curated range that dealt with vegetarians, those with a food intolerance and a light or full meal.

Historical museum newly revitalized to involve the community

By Gail B |

The Currier Museum has always had a special place in my heart from my high school days of drawing class inspiration to their focus today and awesome new exhibits and presentations. They do a great service to artists of past and present and are helping to keep art and artists alive for everyone who visits.

A Great Museum

By writeratsea |

This museum reminds me of the Isabella Stewart Gardiner Museum in Cambridge. In the sense of an Italian Courtyard. The mix of Art and sculpture is very interesting covering many styles and centuries. From the Renaissance to the Modern art of Picasso. Something for everyone.

A bonus is the guided tour of the Zimmerman House. A Frank Lloyd Wright designed home which was very different than I expected/ But even though it was built in 1951, it still feels very modern and innovative. Not to be missed if anyone appreciates architecture. Prior reservation probably a good idea although we managed to get 2 tickets when the doors opened

The Art of the High Heeled Shoe

By rosa b |

First time to this museum and it was wonderful! Beautiful building with a huge mosaic. Not what I expected for a museum in Manchester. I was pleasantly surprised! The exhibit we sent to see was fabulous. 300 hundred years of fashion from around the world. I think about 150 shoes. Very nice cafe with good food and reasonable prices in a lovely setting. Recommend highly!

Tour of Zimmerman House

By CatRob_12 |

We went to this museum to tour the Frank Loyd Wright Zimmerman House.
The tour was amazing. The tour guides were tops, they were so knowledgeable and excited about house. We can’t wait to return to see a neighbor house that they just acquired, that will be on tour in the Spring. The museum was a a plus for Manchester with a an assortment of paintings, furnishings and special exhibits. We did not spend enough time there and look forward to planning Another visit that will allow for dining and a more in depth experience.

A Gem!

By MakeupArtist40 |

Nice collection of a variety of artwork from various time periods. Allow at least one hour. Definitely worth a visit.

A wonderful museum in Manchester

By Bob L |

Only a one hour drive from Boston to this great museum in Manchester, NH. Not only great traveling exhibits but a wonderful array of permanent works of art. Also, a charming place for lunch in the middle, with green plants and a glass roof for sunlight.
Highly recommended

Surprising depth for small museum

By Bee |

We enjoyed the museum as part of our Frank Lloyd Wright Zimmerman house admission tour. Contemporary art - European art - quite lovely. We unfortunately did not get to eat at the cafe which looked pretty nice. Also some interesting sculptures outdoors near the entrance. Parking lot too!

Hidden Gem

Great little museum that gives the big dogs a run for their money. Thoughtful and informed exhibits, terrific permanent collection, and very accessbile. Must see!

A First Class Art Museum

By _revrandy3795 |

My wife and I have thoroughly enjoyed our visits to the Currier. For a small museum, they have a splendid collection of art. If you're looking for a great place to spend a cold or rainy afternoon, this is the place to go.

We particularly have enjoyed their special exhibits, one of which, devoted to M.C. Escher, was one of the best exhibits I have ever seen. We also enjoyed the one on Maxfield Parrish's lithographs. .

Just the Way a Museum Should Be

By Andrewknelson |

Perfect sized art museum for an afternoon visit. Enough variety and quality to keep you interested and engaged, but not so big you get an art overload coma. High Quality. Great Staff.

Excellent Museum

By Mark P |

This is a very good museum located in Manchester, NH. The permanent collection is strong, the exhibitions are interesting, and the staff is helpful.

One tip: The tour of the Frank Lloyd Wright houses is terrific. Make sure to schedule it in advance of your visit.

Worthwhile...

By Larry M |

This mid-size gallery in Manchester is worth a visit. Good representation of Americana miscellany, including silverware by Paul Revere, as well as several early American artists. Note that there is free parking in the museum's lot.

Definitely stop and visit if in town - small but nice art museum with some noteworthy pieces

By Stephen K |

Our main reason for stopping here was for the tour of the 2 Frank Lloyd Wright houses. The tour starts at the Currier, with a bus taking the tour participants to the 2 houses. The art museum is small, but does include some famous works, including Monet, Hopper, Picasso, Matisse. Don’t go with the expectation of visiting major art museums like those in Philadelphia, the Barnes, the National Gallery or the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. Lower your expectations and you will find plenty of great art to enjoy

Top-notch

By mesatraveler |

Don't let the size fool you. The Currier has a great reputation and a lively collection. It has hosted exhibits of French impressionists and one on Lautrec. Well worth a visit.
