Nice stroll around preserved buildings with a large souvenir shop. The lighthouse is impressive but I did not pay to walk the steps. I enjoyed seeing it more than many lighthouses.

Historic Beach Lighthouse worthy of visit! I'm not a fan of heights so I skipped climbing the 220 steps to the top to see what everyone says is a spectacular view and experience 😉

One of the famed Outer Banks lighthouses. This one is not run by the National Park Service. The climb is $10. I didn’t do it, so can’t comment on whether it’s worth it. It’s hard to get great photos of this one as it’s in a very small clearing.

The gift shop was great. The personnel working the day we were there were very nice, helpful, polite, and welcoming! We would reccomend without hesitation. The $10 to walk the steps to the top was reasonable. The new facility with cleanly sanitized restrooms were great! Loved the whole experience.

Beautiful location to explore. Long lines due to social distancing enforcement. We walked to the nature center and the historic village in addition to the lighthouse

If you enjoy seeing lighthouses, this is one to go on your list. The area around it is really nice too. Nice above average gift shop next door to the Lighthouse. Right now, it is the only Lighthouse in NC that allows you to climb to the top during Covid, all others are state owned and they will not allow you to go up.

The facility was closed when we toured. They have many buildings including a beautiful home for the lighthouse keeper. When open, you can climb up for a fee. We parked near the nature center. I highly recommend the nature center, which has a great 30 minute video about the area.

This is a must do when visiting Corolla. The view from the top is unbeatable. I definitely recommend going early in the day during the summer months.

The lighthouse is really cool. Great view from the top! I would definitely recommend but beware, the traffic on route 12 is not nice.

Very nice. The only lighthouse we where able to go up because of covid. You could see around really well.

The grounds for the lighthouse is very quaint and pretty, brick pathways and lots of trees, this makes the view of the lighthouse hard to see from a distance, but when you are in the yard it is very pretty. Lots of walking areas in this spot too. It costs to go to the top of the lighthouse but free to hang out in the yard and go in the keepers house.

Plenty of parking. Can pay to climb to the top too. Grounds are nice. Very cool museum there as well. Right near the water.

Walking to the top with my Daughter & Grandaughter. The view was amazing.. We enjoyed the historical information at the landings. Seeing the original pieces of equipment in the museum was interesting.

Visited this on a trip to OBX. While driving up to Corolla we decided to climb this lighthouse. 220 steps or about 10 floors up. Beautiful views from the top. Definitely not for those who don't like heights. Decent price at $10 but ads up for a family of 5.

We climbed this lighthouse as a family with a 7 and 13 year old. It was super easy to climb for everyone. The view at the top is amazing. A guide was at the top to answers all of our questions. The area around the lighthouse was also beautiful with lots of interesting things to see.

This lighthouse is so pretty, I love the red brick! The line was long to climb it so we passed but worth going to even if you have no intention of climbing to the top. The buildings around it are so charming with lots of great shade trees too. The museum shop here was the best shop I found on all of the outer banks with lots of really cool unique items.

The Currituck Lighthouse is a wonderful one to visit…a must stop on a trip to the Outer Banks. My husband and I have climbed several lighthouses, but this view is the most spectacular at the top. The climb up was not bad at all since there are landings to break up the flights of stairs. We were glad we chose to climb this one since Cape Hatteras is under repair and Bodie Lighthouse has narrow floating stairs. There is a very nice village surrounding the lighthouse with old buildings converted to cute shops.

Beautiful and relaxed place to visit. The lighthouse is beautiful and the town has son much history. Beautiful day trip

We were visiting the OuterBanks with our grandsons ages 2 & 4. We stopped at the Currituck Light House for a tour.
It’s 230 steps up which was exciting for our grandson. The two year old couldn’t go up. Kids his age have to go in a child carrier and we didn’t have one with us.
It’s a beautiful lighthouse with information to read regarding its history as you go up. The views from the top were excellent. The cost was $10 per person. It’s not cheap but it helps support the lighthouse. They kept the people well spaced do you always felt comfortable.
If you are in the Outer Banks, I’d highly recommend going to this lighthouse.

I love lighthouses and this one is in a beautiful setting. The park nearby is so pretty and is especially lovely at sunset.

We stopped here for a picnic lunch after doing a wild horse tour. The lighthouse looks very nice and the park has some good picnic tables available. We found one in the shade which was very much appreciated since it was pretty hot the week of Fourth of July.

We were staying in Corolla, so of course we were going to check out the Lighthouse. This place is a true History lesson. Loved showing and reading about the history of the Lighthouse. We made it all the way to the top!! Great View. Worth it, just for that.

Loved this beautiful old light house. Was so glad we were able to come here. There are lots of small free parking lots around the area but they could fill up quickly. I feel we were fortunate to find a parking place. To go up in the lighthouse is $13. We did not go up in the light house but enjoyed seeing it. Also visit the nearby Whalehead Club for a tour and walk the trails as well as the Educational center.

Excellent place to stop and climb one of North Carolina's iconic lighthouses. I'd been to Cape Hatteras, Bodie Island, and Cape Lookout, but had not been to the Currituck Lighthouse until this visit. Jill, the guide who was working at the entrance to the light, was very personable. She did a great job informing the crowd about the wait time, facts about the light, etc. There was a 20 minute wait to get into the lighthouse, but the line moved. Once inside, I appreciated that they did not allow too many people inside at a time. The view is beautiful from the top. There is a boating museum here.

We visited 3 lighthouses (Hatterus, Bodey, this one), but at this time, this was the only one we could climb. There is a max of 32 people inside, we waited about 15-20 mins in line to enter. Masks are required. Our 4 boys enjoyed it, although one called the top "objectively terrifying". The grounds are lovely as well, and there is a nice bathroom nearby. Highly recommend

Very Very cool lighthouse to visit. AND....we got to walk up it! It was OPEN!!! Yeah for them. It was a beautiful lighthouse. The price was good. The folks were friendly. Great little bookstore next to it. SO worth the visit!

A charming quiet place to visit! I’m so glad we found time to see this historic lighthouse. It’s set in a quiet park, beautiful grounds, with a cute gift shop teeming with facts about the area. I will return for another visit here!

When we went it was $10 to climb the lighthouse. We didn't end up climbing it, but it was a nice sight. The gift shop was cool to look around in as well.

My Great Grandfather was a lighthouse attendant on one of the lighthouse's on the North Carolina Coast. Since I find it part of our family history I try to tour all the lighthouse's on the coast and this was a good one!

Just opened back up from quarantine and was worth the climb! Great staff! Go on a weekday and spend as much time at the top as you want!

The lighthouse was tucked away in the woods just a little (but had a very short walking distance) and it was charming! It is a must see in Corolla!

Well worth the drive from the Kitty Hawk area. Many beautiful homes and scenery along the way. The lighthouse and grounds are spectacular and we thoroughly enjoyed climbing the lighthouse which was magnificent.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Curituck Beach Lighthouse on a typical warm summer day. We arrived fairly early about 930 am which just beat the lines to climb the lighthouse and there were minimal problems climbing up while others were descending and vice versa. They control the number of people entering to prevent overcrowding but it is still unpredictable of encountering others and waiting for opportunities to by pass them on the landings. It was warm climbing up but when we reached the top, we enjoyed a refreshing breeze and panoramic view of the ocean and sound. This well-preserved lighthouse has many informative displays explaining the lighthouse history. Aside from the challenge of the climb, younger kids might find it too educational rather than exciting. Unfortunately repair was ongoing at the top of the lighthouse so there was some construction scaffolding around the light which detracted from photos. By the time we got down, there was a fairly long line to enter. According to the website $7 of the $10 admission charge is tax deductible. A gift shop is adjacent which is a relocated lightkeepers house. If is really fully of nice sale items but they do overwhelm the character of the house. It's a small building so there is a limit on people entering; we had a short wait to get in.

Been here three times and it is always a beautiful view. The view has changed over the years, but it is still worth it. 244 steps each way. Nice grounds and gift shop.

This is a beautiful place with an absolute gorgeous view from every level of the light house. The stairway is well ventilated and big fans are running all the time.
Our 3 year old also found it easy to climb these stairs and enjoyed the sight from each window on the way to the top.
Do no forget to visit the gift shop. The store is beautifully decorated and has very good souvenirs and gifts.

If you enjoy lighthouses, don't miss this one. Free parking is very close by with shade. There are historic buildings to wander and see from the outside. The lighthouse is unique with it's exposed brick structure.
I saw the gift shop but didn't visit it.

We were all excited to see the view from the top and walked the tour of the property and then the 220 steps to the top. What a view!! The info along the way was very interesting as well.

If you come to visit the lighthouse take the climb to the top. It is very easy to climb as there are stops in between the sections in the lighthouse.

Refused to spend my money here. Not pet friendly if you have a “talkative” dog. Despite many visitors coming up and saying hello and how much the children loved the dogs, one very rude manager called him triggering while we waited on our party to exit the lighthouse. For a first outing during a non-peak season trip, I wouldn’t recommend it for pet owners.

We only walked around the lighthouse. You can climb it for $12 each and about 200 steps later you can be at the top. The area has a few things for family to do. The area was very clean.

The view is great at the top of this lighthouse. It's a bit pricey at $10 a person just to climb to the top though.
They have a really nice gift store there.

My 10 year old son loved this visit to the lighthouse and surrounding buildings and activities. The line was long this day, and it was very hot, but I stood in line while my family walked my son around and visited inside the cooled buildings and sights. It was 10 dollars per person to go up into the lighthouse, which was very interesting to do, just keep in mind it may not be for little little ones or those with any balance issues, as the staircase is metal and you can see through so it can be scary for those afraid of heights like myself, but I managed better than I thought. The view up top is amazing, but again took me a minute to get settled as it is so high up and it felt a little scary honestly. My 10 y.o. son and father had no problem at all with the height. I'm glad I stuck with it though it was a cool experience to be in that old light house.

We love lighthouses and stop to see them when travelling - Bery nice little area with history and walkable little area - Nice town too and beach was very nice!

Our family enjoys stopping at lighthouses and enjoy even more the ones that we can climb! There's a fee to climb but no minimum height so our newly 4 year old trudged up the steps too. It wasn't a particularly windy day, but at the top hold onto your loose articles; we lost a pair of sunglasses :(
The view in all directions was great at near closing time. Don't miss the climb if you are in the area!

This is my favorite lighthouse to visit here. The gift shop and grounds are beautiful, it’s a very chill place to walk around and take a break. The view from the top is spectacular (obviously a LOT of steps) and the area around it is very nice.

Cute little village, some stores, beautiful sound views and the lighthouse. The lighthouse store is so quaint.

This is a beautiful lighthouse that from the top you can see the ocean and the sound, it shows just how narrow the strip of land that makes up the outer banks is. This is the second time we have visited this lighthouse and it was just as fun this year as it was 12 years ago.

Long drive from Nags Head but when we arrived it was worth it. It closes at 5 and we arrived at 4:57 so all we were able to do was get a close look. The keeper outside shared some of the information about the light house and gave a pamphlet about light house- favorite thing I loved was the color of the bricks.

Upon seeing pictures all our lives, this was just another NC lighthouse we wanted to visit. I had always thought the white and black ones were beautiful, and they are in their own respect, but this one spoke to us!!! Upon our arrival to the grounds we were so impressed. The white buildings surrounding the courtyard of the lighthouse are just beautiful with wonderful architectural detail. The lighthouse has this wonderfully charming appearance. The unpainted brick, the black painted trim and windows...just a beautiful representation of how past builders focused on quality of craftsmanship. They have a store that’s packed FULL of things for those who like to look and to buy.

If you plan to climb the stairs, know the daily schedule. The grounds are open and clean. It is a great please to stroll and learn some local history.

A must see. Loved climbing the lighthouse. I highly recommend. We visited in 11/22 but didn't climb. I did climb this a few years ago.

This was the first lighthouse that I have ever seen that is made from red bricks. I am used to black/white and red/white paint. There is a small giftshop. We did not wait to walk up to the top.

They only take cash so come prepared! I really don’t like heights and I can do this with no problem. Go earlier in the week as it tends to get crowded later in the week. And there’s a cute little shop next to the lighthouse.

It's impossible to physically-distance in this historical building and they've done a great job keeping it safe and accessible. The views and history are a treasure and I'm so glad we got to experience them firsthand.

The lighthouse was very pretty but quite expensive to climb at $12 a person especially for a group of 10 people. The visitors center was well worth it and had many informative exhibits and it was laid out in a very well planned way.

Beautiful lighthouse complex. One of the best preserved group of keepers quarters around. In March the lighthouse was closed so you climb to the top.

We took some great pictures of the Lighthouse. It's in the Corolla Historical Village which is a very nice place to visit with family. We did not climb the light, way too many steps!! A very nice place to visit and learn the history.

You cannot beat the simple, yet majestic views of a lighthouse. This one is nestled quietly in the woods and offers picturesque views. You can climb to the top for $10, also features a small gift shop. Highly Recommended.

Nice self guided tour to top of lighthouse. Unbelievable view. Really nice gift shop. Great place to take pictures.

This experience was amazing! We climbed to the top and the views were amazing! Not too many steps and there is a cute little lighthouse shop afterward! A must see!

Nice place to visit to see a little history of the area. The view takes your breath away! 220 steps to the top with plenty of places to rest on the way up or down.

We climbed the lighthouse first thing in the morning before it.got too hot. Decent climb but not too difficult even if you’re not in top physical condition. There are landings every so often so you can stop for a break if needed. Keep in mind there’s only one way up and down so it is tight quarters and passing on the narrow stairs requires cooperation and patience. Once you get to the top it is totally worth the effort. Beautiful views of ocean and sound.
The grounds are well maintained and there is a lovely gift shop. Definitely an attraction not to be missed during a visit to Corolla.

Nice lighthouse that you CAN'T go in and see during Covid. Found that at all the lighthouses on Hatteras.
Interesting lighthouse though. Wife got to shop at the little gift store.
Think I got some excellent shots with my drone that you won't get on the ground or even if you could climb up the lighthouse.

Lots of steps to the top, 220 to be exact. Beautiful view of historic Corolla from the top. Make sure you're not afraid of heights!

The park that's around it, well worth parking and walking. We love lighthouses.
Great park, giftshop and all around area.

My dad and I climbed it in the afternoon after the horse tours. Very informative information inside and beautiful view at the top. What a unique and beautiful lighthouse.

Visit and be sure to climb all 220 stairs to the top. The 360 degree view is totally worth it. Being able to see the Sound and Ocean is incredible.

The views were Beautiful although the guy giving the rules was overbearing and repeated himself several times.

We visited the lighthouse on our recent vacation to Corolla. It was very easy to find, and had a nice little walking path around the light house. If you wanted to go up the steps to the top of the light house it cost $10. We opted not to do this, but really enjoyed walking the grounds and looking at the old historic homes and small buildings. The lighthouse is especially beautiful to see at sunset when the light is shining bright. A must see if you are vacationing in the area.

Parking is OK but a bit of a challenge when crowded. The lighthouse does not disappoint and the grounds are nice. We personally prefer Hatteras and Bodie with the classic striped designs but this is a 'must see' too. Rest rooms are across the street.

This was worth the wait! We waited about 35 minutes in line to be able to climb to the top as they only allow 33 people at a time, but it was well worth it. The views were spectacular! The history of NC lighthouses and this particular one is worth learning. Would recommend to anyone, even those with a fear of heights (as a member of our family does). Kudos to all who are brave enough to climb above their fears and experience this. :-)

At the north end of the Outer Banks, one must drive a way to visit this lighthouse! It is located in a wooded area, surrounded by trees and houses…not standing alone like most are!
It was closed, so we could only see it from outside the gate!

Take your time - breeeeathe. It's a long way up to the top.
When I found out it was higher than Bodie, I decided not to climb this one.
Only difficulty is the lines waiting to get into the front door ---when the sun in 90F !
Well worth the stop - as well as the museums near by - walking distance.

No matter what your age, pay the fee, walk to the top and enjoy the fabulous view! It's worth every step.

This lighthouse does allow climbing. We did it in the rain which made it a little different from other lights we've climbed. There is also a gift shop next to it for souvenirs.
I find the cost of climbing lighthouses to be ever increasing and this is no different. $10 a person is kid of steep for what amounts to 15 minutes of activity, but I love lighthouses so I'll keep paying even if I've climbed them many times like this one. View is great from the top and while you are in the area, go the the beach as that is very nice in this area.

The website indicates the lighthouse and museum are open daily 9am-5pm. During our visit the sign on the museum door stated open M-F. Loved the lighthouse. Easy to climb because there is a platform on each level which allowing others coming down to pass. Built 1873 with approximately 1 million bricks. 9 levels and 220 steps. Cost $12.00. Clean restrooms on site. We had a picnic lunch here. Parking lot size was good on our visit but early in the season so not sure during the summer months.

We enjoyed our visit to the light house and our walk to the top. The views were amazing! We also loved how authentic it was. I’d definitely recommend

Be prepared to climb many stairs to see the views. A tightly curved stairway leads to the top of this lighthouse. There are windows along the way to admire the view. We were there in October, and there were a lot of bees at the top. The views are magnificent.

Very beautiful, $10 to walk to top but breathtaking views at the top. Well worth the stair climb up.

No better view on the island than the top of the lighthouse. The kids loved it and so did the adults. Be warned, it’s not free.

We really enjoyed the views from the lighthouse and the surrounding park was really nice to walk around.

Second time walking to the top (my 10 year old was a baby the first time). Beautiful view from the top if you’re up to making the climb (and it is a climb) but this area of historic Corolla has lots of beautiful things to see and is a flat area to explore. Staff is very helpful and professional!

Beautiful lighthouse tucked out if the way Parking area to your left lighthouse to your right. It said “closed” so our pictures are from the road.

This one is a little more off the beaten path since going north on the OBX isn't the typical direction people go. Traffic can be heavy and the speed limit is slow and there is only one way one and off this part of the island so a backup can really plug things up. You can climb to the top but the line for that was obnoxious. I almost wish they wouldn't let people because it jacks up pictures for people who want a pic of the lighthouse and not tourists hanging off the top. There is a squished gift shop in an old house that is kind of cool. Lots of good pic opportunities. Near the sound and fishing for grown ups and kids. There is a kayak put in within walking distance in the sound (beware snakes, there was a water moccasin hanging out at the boat ramp!). The village is nothing too exciting, especially if you have kids.

We went on a cool November day. We found a well kept lighthouse on nice grounds with a relaxing feel. There was some construction going on across the street, so the restrooms weren't available, and finding any nearby was a chore. Fortunately, that was a "need" at the conclusion of our vist.
The grounds are nice for a stroll. The requisite gift shop is well stocked and an interesting structure as well as what's in it. There's also a museum. If time allows, check out the nearby Corolla Park and Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education, but be aware that the latter may close before the posted closing time of 5 p.m. and knocking on the door might be ignored by the staff member in plain sight, as was the case for us.

We wanted to see all lighthouses. We had seen the ones in the southern end on our honeymoon. The only one we’re yet to see is Cape Lookout because it is only accessible by boat. We didn’t go up because I don’t like crowded spaces, but I’m sure the view is beautiful.

Entrance to the park is free except if you want to go up the lighthouse. Tickets are $10 per person which I think is pricey but understandable considering it's a tourist destination and the funds are used to preserve the light house and park. We went up the 280+ steps it even though it was raining. The views up top are fantastic!!!! You can see both the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the bay on the other.
The history of the lighthouse was interesting and there are original photos and sketches along the walls as you climb up.
The park grounds are lovely, particularly the pathways along the bay and waterfront.

This was a great experience. Was able to walk up to the top of lighthouse. The gift shop was nice. The area around lighthouse was nice and relaxing.

This ole brick beauty was such a sight to see. Cost is 10 dollars each to climb. Takes 10-20 mins to get to the top depending on activity level. It was really windy at the top so watch your hats and glasses. The view was amazing with a 360° view of the whole area. The gift shop was quaint but packed full of all kinds of odds and ends. Be sure to fill up on gas before you get anywhere near as prices are really high. And be patient with traffic cause it tops out at about 35 for most of the way up north 12.

My husband and I climbed to the top of the Currituck Beach Lighthouse yesterday. I’m going to be completely honest here. I am a big girl and I was worried I wouldn’t be able to make it all the way to the top. Turns out it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. There are 9 landings on the way up that you can stop and rest on if you need to. They also have fans going along the way for a breeze which helps a lot. If you are worried about making it to the top I would suggest taking it slow. Take your time and stop on those landings if you need too. You are allowed to bring water bottles with you, and I would encourage you to do that if it is really hot outside. Once at the top it is beautiful to look out at everything. Next up is Hatteras Light House.

This was a beautiful historic lighthouse and the park area surrounding it was very nice as well. There is a boardwalk along the water with amazing views.

Beautiful setting. The lighthouse and adjacent maritime museum were so well maintained. We didn't climb the lighthouse.

Beautiful park and setting. Gift shop was open but lighthouse was closed due to vivid 19. Worth the trip for photos.

This was fun to climb…220 stairs. Staff friendly and informative. Very reasonable price to climb and unlike Bodie Island lighthouse, you do NOT need a reservation to climb.

What a view. Well worth the climb up. They have several landings so there are several rest stops for those that need it.

We love it here. We had been here about 10 years ago & then with Covid & not being able to get together with family, we took our little family of 4 to stay on the 4x4 beach north of Corolla for a week. It was the best of social distancing!! We did go walk around the grounds of the lighthouse. I did see they are letting small numbers of people up at a time. We chose not to go to the top as we were trying to stay out away from others. I did go into the store while the others waited outside. They were doing an excellent job of only allowing a couple in at a time and only allowing 1 way traffic through the store. The lighthouse itself & the grounds surrounding it are beautiful. We walked all around to the Whalehead too. Just so pretty to look at!!

This is a cool experience, but make sure you are up for the 220 steps up and 220 steps back to the ground. It was VERY windy at the top, but I like photography and with a good camera got some amazing pictures. Within a park so you can spend some time here.

I love lighthouses and this one does not disappoint. It it beautiful! There is two houses but someone lives in the one so you cannot see inside. The other one is the gift shop, its two story and has a lot to browse around and look at. For thoes that get your passport books stamped, the stamp is at the lighthouse. A must see if in the area.

Unlike most lighthouses in the OBX this one is selling tickets daily for visitors to climb to the top. Bodie refuses to let walk ups climb even when it is totally empty. Hatteras is closed due to renovations which do not appear to be going or in the past year. This is a beautiful old lighthouse well worth the visit. The view is remarkable with plenty of space to walk around outside the glass. The grounds are clean and well cared for with plenty of area to walk around, eat a picnic lunch, go across the street to the beach, fish in the inland water area (beware of cottonmouths at the bridges), and museums to visit. We did encounter a crazy man on a bicycle screaming at people to get off the grass when he himself was riding a bike on the grass. The entire property is to enjoy, including the grass, where there are picnic tables, benches, and information signs. Great place to spend the day. Bathrooms are spacious and clean in the central part of the campus. There is a great little parasailing and kayaking company just a few steps from the lighthouse back gate at the historic village. Take time to walk the village for food, trinkets, and parasailing!

Another beautiful lighthouse to visit on the Outerbanks. We did not do the climb up but visited the grounds and there is a nice gift shop to visit. It is worth a visit, While there you can park and walk the Whalehead Mansion and walk to Old Corolla which has some nice small shops and food

The grounds were well maintained and very friendly and helpful staff. The gift shop was great and the view from the top of the lighthouse worth the climb.
No fees were required to tour the grounds, however $10 per adult to climb the lighthouse.

Love this beautiful brick lighthouse - one of the few left in OBX you can still climb! Cool and breezy at the top with great photographic views after your workout, and a cute gift shop next door! Beware - restrooms are currently unavailable - use beforehand or hike to the port potty.

For a few dollars we were able to take the steps to the top of the light house were the views of the OBX were amazing.

Google maps didn't do a very good job finding this place. We were not interested in climbing the lighthouse, just in getting some pictures and reading about the history. Because it is in a very enclosed treed area there was really only one spot for a decent picture and there was NO informational signage to learn any facts or history, just a pamphlet if you were going to climb. The "museum" gift shop was just a gift shop with no information about the history of the lighthouse. There are other historic buildings in the area an a but of a park area along the sound but we didn't have time to check them out as we were scheduled for a wild horse tour. We planned to go back to the area after the horse tour but based on the dearth of information we got here decided not to return later.

The area is beautiful and well maintained. The lighthouse was beautiful. The hike up was a moderate challenge for myself being a senior citizen, but I made it!

The lighthouse grounds give you a sense of what it was like to tend a lighthouse decades ago. We didn't walk up to the top -- we had our 4 year old granddaughter with us. But it was interest to see this and the NC nature museum nearby.

We love all lighthouses and this one was very very old and historic. it guided all the sailors into the Outer Banks area. It looks like it was made from red bricks and took along time too build. Unfortunately the lighthouse was closed due to COVID 19, but we enjoyed taking some awesome photos.

This lovely and unique lighthouse is worth the visit. It is in a parklike setting with great views from the top.

Whale head park was just beautiful! Unfortunately the light house grounds were still closed for the season we did get to walk around thee light house and take pictures. It was a beautiful day so we walked all over the grounds over the bridge to view the sound. Truly a very tranquil spot and worth stopped to take it in. We hope to come back to climb the light house.

VERY BUSY. TOO MANY PEOPLE IN LIGHTHOUSE at one time. May be worth visit if you can arrive as soon as they open otherwise id suggest skipping.

Lovely setting. Interesting and informative staff. Ten dollars to climb is a little steep, pardon the pun!

I am afraid of heights- but wanted to try climbing this lighthouse. With prayers on each step of the way- I made it up and down and enjoyed the views at the top. I highly recommend if you are physically able. It was great that there were fans on the landings because it was a very warm day and that really helped on the way back down getting some cool air on your face!

Lighthouse is unique and the area where it sits is very pretty. We visited four lighthouses while in the area and they are each unique and well worth the stop.

Beautiful views in all directions! The kids enjoyed the jaunt to the top... interesting and factual. Definitely worth the time.

Very nice lighthouse, nice little shop, love the fog trees outside, walking distance to whalehead and wildlife exhibit. You can park for free and walk to everything. A lot of people were crabbing off the dock so bring your crabbing gear along.

Beautiful lighthouse with really great views on a clear day. There is a $10 fee, and some steps but nothing too serious for a healthy person.

Lighthouses to me are an engineering marvel for the time period. Being able to lay-up One-million bircks that stand the test of time is simply fabulous.

I believe of the 5 light houses in the Outer Banks, Currituck is the most beautiful. The setting is wonderful and the surrounding grounds are wonderful to get a history of the area. The lighthouse is the best maintained of all the lighthouses and the trip to the top is breath-taking. The gift shop is large and contains local art and crafts. Sundown is a great time to be here with a fabulous sun set over the sound.

Was staying in Kill Devil Hills and drove to the lighthouse for the day. It took about 40 minutes and it was a nice, easy drive. We got to the lighthouse just as it opened so there was plenty of parking. Nice bathrooms close by. My family of 5 including 8, 7, and 4 year old went to the top with no problem. There is only one way up and down so you has to stand to the side as others passed you. Good historical facts along the inside of the lighthouse.
The gift shop/house was not open the day I was there so can’t comment on that but the outside looked nice.

Beautiful and historical! Want to return for walk up inside the lighthouse! You can even ride bikes around grounds.

An historic, red- brick lighthouse. The grounds were beautiful. Walk around the grounds to see the flowers. It is close to the park, and to the historic village. It makes a wonderful stop.

A bit of a challenge to find as it wasn’t well marked or easy to see through the trees surrounding it. It was a beautiful drive to get there and the lighthouse has nice historic brickwork. Very well maintained and worth the trip . Pay the fee and make the climb to the top. Absolutely worth it. The iron stairs are stunning! The views from the top are gorgeous even on a windy and rainy day. It was especially nice because there was hardly anyone there.

Just love these big, old lighthouses. Just cool to visit. They said it was closed due to thunder although it was a sunny day, lol. I'm guessing they hadn't gotten around to making a Covid sign yet :)

46 years old and made it to the top to see the beautiful 360 degree views. The park and buildings were gorgeous to walk through. So peaceful. I was very proud of myself for making it to the top!!

Greeted on steps of lighthouse and informed about the lighthouse. Nice climb up. Incredible views at top. Pretty breezy, but lovely day. This is the only light house that you can climb until the others open approximately 3rd week in April.
The learning center was closed on Sunday. The grounds are worth the walk around. Very enjoyable couple hours.

Easy to find with good parking. Well maintained lighthouse! Nice gift shop. The grounds were shady with a small pathway.

Beautiful & peaceful grounds around the lighthouse. Cost is $12 to climb, but free just to visit the grounds. Restrooms are available. Be sure to bring bottled water if climbing the lighthouse on a warm day! A beautiful location for photographs. There are 9 landings as you climb, which allows you space for a quick rest if needed.

Haven't been back in quite sometime for a climb. There is a timed entry due to COVID but it is well managed. Wait was minimal. Loved it. Nice views from the top.

We visited the area on a potentially stormy day when you could not climb the stairs to the top of the lighthouse. Walked around the grounds & enjoyed the shoreline, paths & wildlife. The Whalehead Club was also closed. Even with the closures, we were glad we came.

This is a red brick style lighthouse. Beautifully maintained, easy to access, and you can climb it. The grounds are very pretty and has restrooms with a souvenir shop. Pet friendly and free. Always love seeing it when we vacation there.

Ours was a pre-season visit. No place to get a park stamp or visitor's center for gift items. No access to climb lighthouse either.

Went early in the morning so our kids wouldn’t wake the entire house!!! Walking distance from Corolla Light Resort. Great Views for me an the youngsters 3 and over. They can make it up, but you might be carrying them down!

The 220 step climb was well worth it - what a view! A 360 degree view of OBX was breathtaking! We definitely recommend this when you are in the area.

We happened upon this lighthouse while exploring the northern part of the NC Outer Banks. For $10 each, we were allowed to climb to the top. By paying our $$ we agreed that we understood that the lighthouse was not up to current safety standards. Inside the stairs curve up, up, up…220 steps and 9 landings. It was truly something so unique, just to think of those lighthouse keepers climbing up there every day to light the flame (before electricity). The view from the balcony…amazing!! There were wasps buzzing around at the top but they didn’t bother us.

Nice looking grounds. A lot larger than expected with several buildings to see in addition to the lighthouse.

Absolutely beautiful. Nice little shops there. Lot to see. Cost is a little steep. Lots of stairs to climb. Beautiful sights.

Our tour group stopped in to explore this Lighthouse and surrounding area. I was actually able to climb the stairs to the top for a grand view. Guides throughout the park were there to answer questions.

The lighthouse itself is really cool. I really loved smthe setting with all the trees and plants. It was peaceful. The gift shop is jam packed with all kinds of goodies

The lighthouse was great fun! Amazing views of the sound and ocean. However, the staff at the gift shop were horribly rude.

Not our first visit to this beautiful lighthouse, but it never gets old! Probably one of the best spots in the area to watch the sunset. This time we were able to go in the gift shop, which has lots of neat items for very reasonable prices. Check that out after you photograph the lighthouse!

Our family had a picnic lunch here after our wild horse tour. Open spaces, picnic tables, view of the lighthouse, bathrooms and parking available. Made our trip to Corolla more enjoyable.

This beautiful lighthouse is tucked neatly away in the trees. It is very well maintained and tells it's story well. The climb to the top is well worth the $10/person for the view! Sound and ocean views!

History, architecture, pinnacle view. This lighthouse is a fantastic opportunity for anyone in the norther OBX area.

A beautiful old lighthouse built in 1873. This is the only one on the Outer Banks that you can currently climb to the top. There is a $12 charge to do so. You can view the lighthouse from outside for free. A very nice park like setting.

Great site to see and clean area to walk around. You can sit on one of the benches, visit the small store, walk up the lighthouse. Pet friendly!

220 spiral steps up but worth it for the view and experience. Well maintained, well-run. Small, but well-stocked gift shop also.

It’s a gorgeous old lighthouse, and it’s fascinating to explore! Folks who are afraid of heights, or folks who struggle with the physical demands may not enjoy the challenge, but it’s a wonderful experience for folks of all ages! On this trip, my 81-year-old dad (who’s had 7 hip replacements) took our picture at the top! Beautiful views, beautiful building, interesting experience!

This lighthouse is off the main road and your are able to see it from the road. There is a $10 fee to climb to the top. It was SUPER windy the day I was there, but the view at the top was amazing!

Lighthouse is a must-do if you have the stamina to climb 222 stairs. Wonderful view over the ocean and the sound, east west and north south.

This light house sits between the sound and the ocean on a beautiful piece of land. It is very well maintained.

Gorgeous location and you can't beat the views from the top. There are also cute shops around to browse through. Highly recommend!

havent been to the top in many years and even then the grounds are both historic and beautiful. Also perfect spot for a sunset view over the sound.

Bring your camera and enjoy the spectacular views from the top of the lighthouse. You will also enjoy an excellent customer service experience, learn about the rich history of the island and lighthouse and have fun shopping at the adorable gift shop located on the grounds.

It was a cloudy day when I visited and it was closed for the season. Still nice to say I went there. They had a clean bathroom.

Great place to walk around the grounds of Whalehead Club. The house, bridge, park, and lighthouse are gorgeous! Great place to have a relaxing stroll!!

The views from the top of this lighthouse were awesome. I am not a fit person, but the climb was not too bad at all. There are railings all the way up to the top of a narrow spiral staircase. There are many landings to be able to catch your breath as well. It was well worth the climb just to see the views at the top.

Be prepared to climb! And the climb is worth it. You can take as much time as you need as there are places to stop along the way up. It was $12 per person to go up and you can pay either cash or credit. We enjoyed reading about the history of the lighthouse and then reading more about the history of lighthouses in America. The top was well worth it as we could see out for miles (even though it was a semi-gloomy day).

This lighthouse was great! There was a cute gift show. The same area was a museum with different fishing boats and bathrooms. It was nice to cool off and learn some more history.

The people where nice, the gift shop was nice and the lighthouse was amazing as well as the views!! Make sure to check out the historic village as well.

Very nice lighthouse. 220 steps, but 9 landings, so u can stop frequently. Despite a bit of nerves, it felt safe to climb. Interesting informational panels to read at some landings. Cost $13/person, but it supports the lighthouse gorgeous view at the top. Definitely worth it!!

Terracotta colored lighthouse , tickets can be purchased at the time of climb which is $10 / person . It takes about 30 mins for climbing up and down and about 210 stairs . Parking is free and very close to carova beach .

The trip to the top of the light house made for some great views of the island, sound, and ocean. Well worth the steep climb on a spiral staircasse.

Fun afternoon touring the Currituck Lighthouse. We toured the gift shop and climbed to the top of the lighthouse. Beautiful views from the top!

Very beautiful peaceful setting. Need to see every lighthouse outback to appreciate them all. Each has a unique design

The lighthouse is absolutely beautiful! It's a must see if you are in the area. My husband and I love lighthouses and the Currituck Lighthouse did not disappoint! Lovely grounds.

I like lighthouses. This one is pretty as well. It is more expensive than most to climb but it is nice to see nonetheless. If you have never climbed a lighthouse do it. If you’ve done the lighthouse climb elsewhere there is nothing extra special about this one.

We visited the Currituck lighthouse after Labor Day. It recently reopened for climbing. Note that admission policy for children has changed but they have not yet updated their website. Children over 3 must pay $10 ( no longer free). Children 0-3 are free, but they must be carried in a baby carrier. I had to manage a small tantrum from my 3 year old who was upset that he wasn’t going up.
We still enjoyed our visit. Grounds are nice. Walk up isn’t bad. Great views from the top.

This was a nice sight seeing stop - seeing the lighthouse was a quick visit. There was a line of about 50 people waiting to climb to the top so we skipped that. Pamphlet at the site gave solid information and it completed our experience.

It is run by a local charitable organization. They have repaired and maintain the structure and surrounding grounds. 220 steps to the top, there are 3 interpretive stops on the climb to learn about lighthouses, Fresnel lenses and more.
There are restrooms nearby and a park where you could relax or picnic.

Staff was very friendly and open to answering questions. Amazing views, good climb, and beautiful structure

Had no idea that it cost $10 per person. It was OK but not something I feel like is a must do! Little shop next door had a few cute things.

We are used to wide open acreage with a lighthouse and keepers house plucked down in the middle. This is not that kind of lighthouse. Nestled in the trees, the Currituck Lighthouse looks as though it sprouts out of a forest. There are 2 buildings on the grounds, keepers house and gift shop. There is a wonderful park nearby to visit. There are shops and places to dine within walking distance. We did not climb it as it was crowded and the weather was hot that particular day. There is no air conditioning inside the lighthouse so I recommend a cooler day to climb them. Really a must see if you are in the area. Pictures are from a different visit.

Well, we have climbed all three lighthouses on the OBX since we have been here this week and this one was by far the best. I really enjoyed the climb to the top. It is ten dollars which are quite inexpensive I think. The views from the top are amazing, probably the best of any lighthouse I have been too. They also have a cool gift shop. This is a great place for all ages.

I love all the lighthouses on the Outer Banks, but this one with no paint is absolutely beautiful. It’s surrounded by trees and very peaceful.

Well worth our time to stop and walk to the top. Great views of the ocean and sound. The wait was about half an hour. It’s adjacent to the Whalehead Club.

Visited today and they were allowing climbs however with wind and rain the too was not open. We opted to come back another day instead of climbing all the way up and not being able to go outside the top. We explored the grounds which were nice and so was the store. Recommend driving or walking over to the schoolhouse when there.

This was the third lighthouse we visited and the only one that had easy access to get entry to go to the top. The landing stations also made climbing up and coming down easy and less tiring. The view from the top was scenic. Highly recommended and the fee is a small contribution towards the upkeep of these lighthouses.

I climbed the lighthouse with my kids and even though 220 steps seems like a lot, the payoff at the top is worth it. The line may appear to be very long outside the lighthouse but the very helpful staff keep it moving. The lighthouse is also meticulously maintained and is a must do IMHO. Since a pic is worth more words than I am writing see the pics for what I'm talking about.

DON'T GO OUT OF YOUR WAY TO VISIT. why spend $10 to climb 220 steps?
built in 12- 1- 1875. much ado about nothing.

Be ready for alot of steps. Was fun overall. Don't think it would be the best site to visit if you plan on going to the top with small children. We had 2 children (ages 8 & 11) with us and they did fine, but they are able to walk and not have to be carried.

Beautiful property and well maintained. Enjoyed this visit very much. There was much to see besides the Lighthouse. I would go again.

Well worth the climb to the top for the wonderful view of the area. Several landings with historical information to peruse while climbing.

This was an interesting LH in a good location. Picturesque. Nearby wildlife museum. Easy access. Not near other OBX lighthouses.

Be prepared, it's 220 steps to the top (calves were a bit sore the next day) and it's $10 to climb to the top, but the views are amazing. Lots of history tidbits on your way up.

We waited in a short line (maybe 6 minutes). The staff were friendly. The climb was relatively easy. There were fans at every other landing to help cool you off. The stair landings had historic information about the lighthouse and area. The views from the top were awesome!

I was driving by on NC 12 and saw this lighthouse. I was very picturesque so I decided to stop. I would have liked to climb to the top, but there was a long line and the guide said it would be almost an hour wait. Not having that much time, I was content to take pictures from the ground. I would recommend going at 9am when they open.

Enjoyed our visit to this lighthouse. Climbed to the top for some amazing views. The gifts hope was nice although not allowing many people inside at once so there was quite a wait. The are around the lighthouse was nice.

My wife and I enjoyed the climb and the opportunity for photos. I have a fear of heights and made it up no problem. Highly recommended.

Had an opportunity to see the lighthouse and compare it with Bodie Island. It was quite interesting and the guides were well prepared. The lighthouse was more than ready for COVID-19.

Our family enjoyed the climb to the top. It wasn’t too warm or windy, so a good day to be there! There wasn’t anyone regulating the number of folks at the top; maybe this will have to be done during busier months as it seemed a little crowded for current precautions. Definitely worth the stop!

Has some shade so if your not walking the steps you have a nice place to wait. The gift shop is adorable. Family did the steps they did feel it was a hard climb. This area is difficult if in a wheelchair due to the walk way; also no handicap entrance to the gift shop also not able to maneuver a wheelchair in the building.

Had never been to a lighthouse till today, we really enjoyed our visit, the staff was friendly,I made it to the top

We love lighthouses! This one didn’t disappoint. Well maintained.. beautiful and you can climb to the top for $10 per person! Beautiful views from the top!

Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Reasonable priced to hike to the top. This was the last remaining lighthouse to photograph along the Outer Banks and was not disappointed.

Within a quick drive of each other are two more must see "things to do"...the beautifully restored Whalehead manse and, for something completely different, the horse tour. Paul was our knowledgeable guide from Corolla Outback Adventures. The historic nature and preservation of the village and it's immediate environs are worth your time. Enjoy.

We went during Covid, which didn’t seem to change much. The lighthouse and surrounding homes are neat to walk around. Be sure to walk down to the sound side for some walking trails and you can walk into the small town of Corolla too. Across the street is the beach as well!

Within the Corolla park this historic site is worth a trip. Also great location for western sunset as you walk to Corolla house. Easy parking.

This was the second lighthouse my dad and I climbed. My nephews (4 and 7) were also able to climb. Beautiful views from the top!

220 steps to the top and beautiful views all around. It does elevate your heart rate climbing up but it was worth it.

$10 will allow you to climb the 201 steps to the top of this beautiful lighthouse. At the top you will get a panoramic view of the northern outer banks. The surrounding grounds are lovely and definitely worth a visit.

Beautiful setting, well maintained. We couldn't go into the lighthouse because of distancing restrictions, but it was still nice to see. Also close to a very attractive park.

Stopped here before going on our horse tour on Corolla.... $10 to climb, but well worth it! Grounds are nice, and if you time it right, they were holding educational seminars on herbal remedies. Enjoyed this!

Beautiful Views of the area. The lighthouse has about 220 stairs but several landings to stop and rest at. (No place to sit) The $10 is worth it.
Families: Children 3 and under MUST be in a body carrier. All other child have to walk and can not be carried.

Worth seeing. Appreciate the history of this place and glad they are keeping it renovated and save for tourists.

This lighthouse was great. Alot of history. To get to the top was a challenge but we did it and it was worth it. Was able to see along ways

Unlike the Bodie Lighthouse you do not have to prepurchase tickets. They do need a more efficient way to streamline entry & payment. It could be a wait if the line was long. They took cash and card. I'm not sure if they limit how many people can go in the lighthouse. The flow of people in & out was steady. There are 9 platforms, I believe, where you can rest &/or let people others by. The stairs aren't made for 2 ways of traffic. Staff was friendly. The restrooms located across the street needs some TLC.

So glad we went to see the lighthouse. It’s beautiful with the brick. Very well taken care of as well as the grounds. Great park area for picnics.

Husband walk to the top of 200 plus steps. Beautiful view, area nice, nice gift shop. Tough walk to the top of the lighthouse. The grounds are wonderful. Great place to relax.

Was recommend to come here and was very pleased .. I love lighthouses. So was happy to be able to see one close up. Unfortunately we were too late so were not able to go inside
Hopefully on our next visit

Stopped on our way from wild hose tour. They have and are continuing to restore the historic buildings of this. Very nice place to walk around and see history. The lighthouse is breathtaking !!! No cost !!!!

Climb the lighthouse for an amazing view of the oceanside and soundside of Corolla. The village is a quaint area with a cute bookstore, library, craft and gift tshops.

Fun place to visit and see the view from the top. Learned some history of the lighthouse. Worth the climb even with the heat!

Did not climb the lighthouse, but may go back. The lighthouse is within walking distance to the Whalehead Club - which I really enjoyed. I like the history. The kids did not appreciate it as much as the adults.

Worth the stop. Very well preserved lighthouse. The grounds are like a little park. well maintained. A nice gift shop is on site and a quaint shopping village next door. You can also walk next door to the Whalehead House.

Cool place, take the 220 spiral stair to the top. Learn some history on the way up. And the views are awesome from the windows an the balcony at the top. I also enjoyed lookin down from the top, seeing the spiral stairs

The view was great from the top. Lots of steps but worth the climb. Grounds well maintained and nice gift shop.

My wife and I visited four lighthouses during our visit to OBX. Out of all the lighthouses, this was our favorite.
This lighthouse charged $10 per person to climb to the top. They gave excellent instructions before entering the lighthouse about mask wear and social distancing on the narrow staircase. Everyone we met followed the instructions making it a safe endeavor.
The initial landings have information about the construction of the lighthouse and the lamp. The view from the observation deck is stunning.
They also have a great gift store.
We would highly recommend visiting the Currituck Lighthouse.

One of many light houses that were important to navigation off the Outer Banks. The place has been restored and has an adjacent gift shop worthy of taking a few minutes to browse. Approximately a couple hundred steps will take you to the top if you’re willing to pay $10 per person.
The setting doesn’t make you think that it was important to navigation during the time this Light House was operational. However according to the docent it served as an important landmark and warning light for ships off the coast of North Carolina for many years. When you’re in the area, you might consider a trip to Cape Hatteras to see that more well-known Light House which is currently again in danger of the rapidly rising tides nearby.

Lovely on a fall afternoon. Easy parking just across the street in front of the new Currituck Maritime Museum. Stroll over, informative outdoor sign giving the history of the lighthouse. Then stroll along the brick walkway from the late 1800s and pay to climb the lighthouse, or browse the lighthouse shop. We all enjoyed it very much. Suitable for adults and kids over four. Younger kids may be placed in child carriers for a family member to carry up the very steep and circular lighthouse stairs. This would be best for well behaved kids and adults.

Amazing! You can walk all the way to the top and look around outside. There are 200 stairs recommend bringing some water or planning accordingly. The gift shop is awesome and located right next to it!

The Currituck Lighthouse is a great example of the olden days when ships relied on lighthouses instead of radar and GPS. Looking at it just carries one back in time to a simpler existence. Loved it!

Amazing view!!! 220 steps to the top but worth every step!!! We made it to the top just in time to get a few photos before the storm hit. It’s still a working lighthouse!!!

We stayed in Corolla and ventured out to see this lighthouse. I love lighthouses but just from the outside. I don’t normally climb them and right now that’s closed due to COVID. Was able to go in the cute little gift shop. It was a nice stop and another one off the list!

It is a wonderful experience and I highly recommend it. It is well worth the $10 a person to go to the top of the lighthouse. It's not as bad as it seems. There are a lot of stairs however, there's a landing after each set of stairs that you can stop at. The grounds are immaculately maintained and the staff is very friendly. The gift shop is quite large and exceptional. The prices are quite reasonable.

My wife is a lighthouse freak, so when we travel we have to visit any and all lighthouses in the area (Maine was a trip!) Fortunately, the outer banks has lighthouses aplenty! This is a beautiful, all brick lighthouse with some great history. The view from the top is nice ($12/person) and there is a gift shop, of course. Near the lighthouse is Corolla village where you can dine and the Whalebone Club, a refurbished summer/hunting home (mansion) with free tours all set up in the period with lots of antiques etc. Between the lighthouse and the Whalebone Club is a visitors center with a nice display of several of the boats used by locals for duck hunting back in the day.

This was the only lighthouse we saw that we were able to walk up, the other two we went to were being renovated. While I was super out of breath going up 220 stairs it was amazing to see the sight at the top and super windy but what a view! I would definitely do it if you are in the area and it was only $10 so super affordable!

Wonderful, beautiful - great views- memorable - something fun to do in obx - great for all ages- family it friends — don’t miss it

I have climbed several lighthouses and the stairs inside Currituck Lighthouse were one of the easier climbs. Each flight consists of about 19 stairs and each landing was spacious and had a fan, which provided a nice break. The higher we climbed the more we felt the breeze. The views from the top and the nice breeze were great!

Staff was very friendly and open to answering questions. Amazing views, good climb, and beautiful structure . Great at spacing out parties to social distance

For $10. you can walk to the top. However, you can't go to the room with the lens, you stop and go outside just below that point. The views are amazing! If you don't like heights you'll want to stay to the inside once you reach the top.

My sister and I enjoyed walking around the grounds since the lighthouse was still closed for the winter. We wouldn’t have climbed it even if it was open due to mobility challenges. It is a very pretty lighthouse with the reddish brick. A bit of a drive from Kill Devil Hills, where we are staying, but worth it.

Brilliant space. Friendly staff.
Visited August 2022 with friends and their Kids (Age 8 and 10).
It’s a fab space, very special heritage.
The queue (or Line-up) in the summer forms early (around 10am I think.
We turned up about 11am and the queue was not too bad.
Really enjoyed our visit.
Warning that as you climb higher up the lighthouse some people may start to feel a little claustrophobic as the space inside smaller.
Once at the top, the views are fab.

A short climb (relatively speaking of course) will get you access to Whalehead Mansion & the sound.
It’s located in Historic Corolla. There are many sights to see.

This is a must do as the view is awesome and it’s an easy climb! You can see so much from the top here! The staff is so nice and they are locals with advanced knowledge of the area.
Highly recommend! Will return!

Easy time, small place. Roam around for free and learn about this cool, working lighthouse, the boats and people of the area. And pay a little to climb the stairs for amazing views. Worth the hour or so.

Determined to experience most of the full length of the Outer Banks during our first visit, my wife and I headed north from Kitty Hawk through Duck (mostly residential) and up to Corolla, ending st the lighthouse. GPS guided us there easily and we arrived late afternoon, about 35 minutes before closing (5pm). We had not planned to climb the lighthouse, and we walked the grounds and the visitor center. The lighthouse setting is beautiful...glad we made the trip.

Corolla (pronounced Cah-RAL-la, not Co-ROW-la) Light, made of brick with lovely white wood outbuildings, is one of the most charming and picturesque lighthouses on the Outer Banks. It's not as well known as Hatteras Lighthouse, but it's absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately, it's closed to visitor in the offseason, but you can still see it and take wonderful photos.

We had a great time visiting the Currituck Beach Lighthouse. It was fun to climb the historic structure, and the lighthouse afforded excellent views of the coast and the surrounding area.
We visited the Currituck Beach Lighthouse after previously seeing the Cape Henry lighthouses. This was much better. The stairs were nicely maintained, there are nice exhibits describing the history of the lighthouse and the area as you climb, and you can actually walk outside on the platform at the top.
Note that the lighthouse is fairly tall. Climbing to the top was more strenuous than anticipated but totally worth it.

We visited this one in the off-season and found that unlike many others, you *can* climb this one throughout the year. However, all of the warnings gave us pause. They make you sign a disclaimer before going in that acknowledges that this lighthouse is not up to code and limits them from any potential injury or liability - which was a bit unnerving for us. We opted not to climb, but there's plenty of history here as well and also a great gift shop that has tons of relevant merchandise. Well worth stopping!

While visiting Corolla we went to the lighthouse but opted not to climb the stairs to the top. There is great historical information provided about this red-brick structure. You can also visit a shop and the Maritime Museum which is across the street.

Very well laid out area on the North End of the Outer Banks. Its a good 30+ minutes from Kitty Hawk. Nice lighthouse located in a nice area. The area is free and there is only a charge if you want to do the climb. Great place to see. Follow us @WanderingParents

I did not go in the lighthouse myself, but I have heard that it is the nicest one out of all on the outer banks, even though it isn’t the tallest. The lighthouse includes a store where you can buy souvenirs for your family, and is also in a beautiful and convenient area. There are shopping areas nearby if you want to grab a bite to eat afterwards, and the lighthouse is also a part of the historic corolla village, where there are many other sights to see.

The grounds are beautiful. Just enough without exhausting you. The museum is fantastic...and free. The gentleman manning it (former journalist) was so knowledgeable and a true pleasure to speak with. Loved this 1/2 day trip!

was really cool it's a workout to get to the top the ones you're up there you can see both sides of the island if you stand just outside the door was really beautiful and breathtaking

Had a lovely time visiting this lighthouse! However I found a new fear of heights ! I was completely terrified when I made it to the top I had to “hug” the wall the entire time, but I did it! ;)

Did not have to book in advance, bought tickets at the door. Was easy to climb and had a fantastic view when we got to the top

The Lighthouse was very cool to climb and see the amazing views! The grounds were well kept, and signage showed the history of the area. Social distancing is not very good here. It is a small area and very limited space inside the gift shop or the lighthouse that made 6 feet almost impossible. Outside you are able to keep a distance and enjoy the beautiful grounds. The gift shop and the workers are adorable.

We went to the Lighthouse when we were vacationing at Corolla. Very nice and lots of history. Well worth visiting and enjoyed the climb to the top.

Very beautiful grounds and an impressive brick lighthouse. There is also a museum there featuring fishing boats and information about life around the area in the past. You can walk to the top of the lighthouse for $13.00

I traveled to 3 of the 4 lighthouses on the OBX and this one was fabulous. It is worth the trip and climbing to the top was so much fun. Highly recommended.

This is a beautiful and interesting thing to do with your family! Lots of history! Our little guy had a great time too!

Each light house at the OBX offers a slightly different view and history. The climbs are not overly difficult but it does get hot inside. The grounds are well maintained and there is a nice gift shop near it. The park itself is much bigger and plenty of places to walk around and read the history of the place. YOu need to sign a waiver before climbing as it doesn't meet current building codes.

After spending a week in Corolla almost every summer for 28 years, I finally climbed the lighthouse!
It was always there, in the distance, flashing at 20-second intervals every night, but my fear of heights kept me from doing anything beyond standing outside its base. Until this year of the covid-19 pandemic, when I felt the urge to go SOMEWHERE.
In this case, to the top!
The site has the lighthouse, a small museum shop in what may have been a keeper's house and a large keeper's house. It also is said to have a two-hole privy, two cisterns that store rainwater and a storage building used as an office, but I managed not to find any of those.
The main attraction here is climbing to the top of the lighthouse, from which you can get great views of Currituck Sound and mainland North Carolina to the west, the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the northern Outer Banks beneath you.
TIPS:
* Afraid of heights, I found it much harder to climb down than to climb up. Going up you could focus on reaching the next landings among the spiraling stairs. Going down you had a much greater sense of being high. Going either direction, try to avoid looking down through the grillwork of the steps.
* If you reach the top, don't get so caught up in the view that you forget to look up to where the Fresnel lens is.
* Be careful about going on a hot day. I went on a warm day in September and the inside of the brick lighthouse was noticeably stuffy.

This is located near the Whalehead club and is easy to walk to from the parking lot. There is a lot to see in this area too. We went crabbing off the dock and also watched the sunset from the bridge.

We have visited before and climbed the lighthouse before having kids. Stunning views! We did not climb on this recent visit due to young children but the area around the lighthouse is a wonderful area to explore.

Went with the family. Great view of the ocean and Sound. Nice little gift shop and a short walk to Old Corolla Village. Nice family outing.

Worth the stairs and the climb. It's a bit windy, but the history and the view are amazing!! There are pictures all the way up.

Going up in lighthouse. Wonderful experience. Historical info they provided was spot on. View from top lovely. Wish we could have toured the lightkeeper big house.

At first we arrived and were disappointed to see a closed due to thunder sign, but after walking around the park for a little while the lighthouse was reopened. The storm cleared in time for us to make the trek to the top and enjoy the breathtaking and beautiful views! This is the first lighthouse I have been to that was open to climb. Very cool experience.

This was my third lighthouse of the day. Admission is $10. It’s easier than climbing Hatteras. Can see for miles. It’s easy to get to and don’t miss the walk around the park near the lighthouse.

Parking is a little tricky but a few trips around the block and we found something. A lovely lighthouse.

We enjoyed reading and learning about the history of the area and the people who lived here during our visit. While we didn't climb to the top the day we visited, (got there late) we intend to on our next visit. Very natural, relaxed setting and a good place for children to run around a bit outdoors!

The lighthouse is easily accessible. Decided against climbing it but did visit the historic village around it and thoroughly enjoyed that. The deep pink snowball bush was beautiful!

Beautiful lighthouse and grounds. Made a quick stop here to see the lighthouse before our wild horse tour

Stopped at the lighthouse today. For $10 you can climb to the top. There are 9 places on the way up to rest so it won't wear you out. Great history of the operation of the lighthouse from its inception to today. Very interesting grounds and tour. Would recommend going to this lighthouse if you're in the area

During our stays, in Corolla, our family of 19 decided to drive here. We were content with the atmosphere, the views from above (those who climbed-up the stairs) and below, the waters and bridge, the stories, and the family walk through the park (Family of ducks, picnickers, and fishermen were also present). Free parking was available on site. Enjoy!

Same as above, because of Covid 19 it's not fair to have to rate our exsperence. my teen grandaughers were disapointed not being able to clime the steps to the top

Take the climb! You can see all of Corolla from here! Currituck sound, Atlantic Ocean, north beach, etc. only $12 for an amazing climb and info along the way! My tour guide Kelly recommended it and it was worth every cent! Beach access and restaurants across the street too!

Visiting the Currituck Lighthouse in the Outer Banks was a delightful experience that my family and I thoroughly enjoyed. As a 60-year-old woman, I found the climb to the top a bit challenging, but the breathtaking views made every step worthwhile. The surrounding grounds are beautifully maintained, offering a peaceful setting perfect for a family outing. The historical exhibits inside the lighthouse added a fascinating layer to our visit, making it not just a scenic experience but an educational one as well. I highly recommend this visit to anyone looking for a blend of history, natural beauty, and a bit of adventure.

Very nice area with a beautiful lighthouse.Great views of the area from the lighthouse . A must do!!!

Arrived near the end of the day ~ 4:30pm, but still plenty of time to climb to the top and enjoy the beautiful views. It's a good climb, but landings every 20-30 steps allowed for breaks. They also had fans running inside which helped. Informative displays to read on the way up/down.

I loved this beautiful lighthouse! The area around it is very clean and well kept. My legs felt like jello after the walk to the top but so worth it to see the view!!

Lovely lighthouse that’s easy to climb and has spectacular views at the top. Grounds are very nice and the gift shop is great as well.

Although closed for the season, it was worth the stop to see the lighthouse. Grounds very well kept. Parking nearby.

Neat historical visit to this lighthouse. My 15 year old son liked the challenge of climbing the 220 stairs to the top. Beautiful views all around at the top. They are actively renovating the lighthouse now and there was a swarm of wasps at the top, so that was interesting. Still a great quick visit.

Easy, clean, fun. Great views. A very reasonable price for a less than 1 hour activity and get a little exercise while you're at it.

Don't miss the opportunity to climb to the top of the lighthouse - what a great view of Currituck and not really too bad for someone that has a fear of heights!

One of the best cared for lighthouses we've been too (and we've been to a lot!) Don't let the # of stairs scare you from making this climb, it is well worth the $13. The grounds are very pretty and the store is (super tight) cute!

This magnificent Corolla icon is always worth a visit, but be prepared for an athletic climb and be sure to wear non-skid shoes not flip flops. The view at the top is breathtaking and occasionally bracing as there is often a strong breeze that blows you around a bit as you circumnavigate the deck. The story of the lighthouse lens is fascinating and worth reading. The rest of the property, which features the lighthouse keeper's home, a former office that now serves as a gift shop (with interesting reading materials on the history of all the Carolina lighthouses) and a few other outbuildings, provides a lovely outdoor diversion that is great for families and couples.

Nice pretty light house that you can climb up and see the view. $10 per person to climb. Quite busy even during covid time. View is great. They close 5pm sharp.

If you haven’t ever climbed to the top of a light house I would recommend it at least once. It was interesting to see how it was run in the past and the views from the top were breath taking.

My daughters loved this lighthouse. I like how it’s not your typical looking lighthouse. Only a short walk from Corolla historic park.

Spent 2 days wandering through this park. It is beautiful and easy walking. There is a "pond" where kids can fish in and a boat ramp to launch a canoe or kayak or small motor boat into the sound

You might as well see the lighthouses! This one has a park next to it. Nice place for a family with small kids.

Just like any of the other light houses this is interesting to see and read the history but there is not much else to do......you can go in this light house for $10.

Beautiful lighthouse that emerges from the Carolina pine forest. The gift store is open but restricted to the number of people that can go into it.

Stairs stepping live for a real view of the Outter Banks with a mask on is a bit harder than any machine of course. Clean place with a great view at the top as a good prize. You can see the beautiful beaches from the windows as well as the deck from the top of the light house.

This was the first Lighthouse my husband & I climbed & we LOVED IT!😍 It only took us 6 minutes to climb the 220 steps which is not bad at all!! You don’t have to be in perfect shape. If you haven’t done this yet we highly recommend!! Steps are very sturdy with railings & platforms for each level for those who wish to take in the views & pause along the way. The view from the top is spectacular to say the least.
Fun- Fact - On December 1, 1875, the first lighting of the Currituck Beach Lighthouse illuminated this dark space on North Carolina's dangerous coast. It was the final last major brick lighthouse built on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and with an overall tower height of 162 feet, it is one of the tallest beacons in the country.
To distinguish it from other regional lighthouses, its exterior was left unpainted and gives today's visitor a sense of the multitude of bricks used to form the structure, a million to be exact!! So go ahead and climb this lighthouse!! You won’t regret it. Love ❤️ love ❤️ love ❤️

Went a little out of the way on our way out of town/back home. Beautiful light house. The most packed one that we visited the whole trip. Super bummed the gift shop was closed. Said it closed for 30 mins mid-day but sign on the door said they wouldn’t be returning for over an hour so missed out on that and looking at other reviews its a big miss sadly.
The drive is the slowest of all the lighthouses so have patience. You drive by the original Duck Donuts and lots of adorable little shops each town you pass through.

its in a park on the sound sourred by a village with all sorts of things to do. the new mariners museum is reel Kool. And air condoned.

Interesting little facts about life in the area prior to tourist destination. Well maintained area with crabbing/fishing spot, outdoor music, walkways, gift shop, schoolhouse and lighthouse. Lots of free easy parking with great views and facts posted around about an old hunting club and working lighthouse.

Kiddo’s first lighthouse, and it was a great experience! Beautifully maintained area, access to climb to the top, a cute little shop - great place to stop and see!

It was a great view from the top of the light house. The gentleman at the ticket booth was very informative about the area.

It was the first lighthouse climb for our 4 year old and she did great on the 220 steps up and back down. The lighthouse itself is beautiful as well as the setting and several buildings on the grounds. The views from the top are great too. $10 for adults to climb to the top.

My wife and I visited the Currituck Lighthouse and surrounding area. It was quite an adventure climbing to the top. The village area was great. Very impressed with the old school house. Don’t miss it

I can't really say what makes it better than any other lighthouse, but it is a great trip with the family. If you are in Corolla or Duck, don't go to Hatteras, go to the Corolla Beach Lighthouse.

We visited all the Outer Banks' lighthouses and because Currituck is owned by a non-profit it is open for climbing (Oct. 2020) with social distancing measures. It's beautifully maintained and the grounds are well-kept, too. This lighthouse was built following the plans for the Bodie Island Lighthouse so they are technically identical although Currituck Lighthouse's brick has not been painted. The gift shop is great! Loved our visit!

Was a beautiful lighthouse, informative greeter who makes sure only 33 people are inside at one time. He was friendly and gave a great little history of the place.

The Currituck Lighthouse and surrounding park is a nice place to visit. Currituck Lighthouse is the most northern of the 7 coastal lighthouses. The lighthouse is in excellent condition. You can climb to the top for an outstanding view of both the sound and the Atlantic. The cost is $12 dollars per person and is state owned, unlike Bodie Island and Hatteras, which are owned by the NPS. The light still works and can be seen in the evening.
Lighthouse lover
Love to see the lighthouses, and especially the history behind them! Placement, differences, the "why" behind them, are they still in use, etc. It was cool!
