Better than expected

By Michigan0718 |

This place was a lot larger than I anticipated. The dinosaur exhibit and gemstone exhibits were my kids favorite. We didn’t do the DaVinci or any other special exhibit because we purchased the city pass. We spent a little over two hours there. Probably a 3-3 1/2 hour museum if doing everything.

Reminiscent of My Childhood

By AshBernadette88 |

Having grown up in Colorado, I was lucky enough to bring my own daughter here for a visit!

Just like when I was a child, a full T-Rex skeleton (replica) greets guests upon entrance. The Pre-Historic Journey exhibit on the third floor (containing all the dinosaur and early mammal fossils), as well as the taxidermy dioramas on the second floor, remain largely unchanged since I was a child. However, I have noticed over the years that the information on placards and discussed in museum tours are updated. Other exhibits have been changed since my youth including Expedition Health (formerly The Hall of Human Life) and Space Odyssey. These are now more tailored to children but are very fun. The Egyptian Mummies are also neat to see.

As a parent, I greatly appreciated The Discovery Zone on the second floor, which is like a mini children's museum. It was great letting our daughter blow off some steam so she'd be calmer while my husband and I enjoyed the exhibits about international cultures. As with many museums, there are also plenty of restrooms and places to eat, as well as a large gift shopped filled with overpriced items.

We concluded our tour with a trip to the Sky Terrace. Here, the views of the Rocky Mountains and downtown Denver are unmatched!

Great location adjacent to City Park...perfect way to spend the day with family!

Museum informative, missing an opportunity to expand information/exhibits

By Jen K |

This museum is relatively large. There are activities for kids. The best exhibit was the dinosaur exhibit, but it was more of a pre-historic exhibit as it went over the earth’s origins as well. I saw a ton of people with kids just run to the dinosaur portion of the exhibit. This was the largest exhibit. The mummy exhibit was shockingly small, just one room and barely any information. The health exhibit has some interactive portions that are okay, although no information that blew my mind. The planetarium was fair - nice seats, good screen, but the show just showed me the planets with one or two sentences about each planet and some moons, nothing new or that interesting or up to date. I’ve been to larger museums, or at least museums with more comprehensive exhibits. Only took us 3-4 hours to do the whole thing - and I read ALL the info in museums. Would I go again? Probably not. Would I go again if I had kids? Maybe the special exhibits - not too expensive for a rainy day.

Great Visit

By Happy |

We really enjoyed the museum and could not see all of it one day. We like to read most of the information and after 4.5 hours we were ready to leave but there was still so much more to see. We viewed both IMAX and Planetarium Shows. I purchased show and entry tickets online. My 12-year-old grandson came along and enjoyed the museum.

Fabulous collection!

By Robert S |

This is not a one day trip. There are both permanent and traveling exhibits here, so check their web site to see what is happening. Special exhibits probably cost extra.

It's a good place to visit with a party of varying ages!

Disappointed That the Egyptian Area was Closed - Some Exhibits Are Dated

By Sisterofmany |

I enjoyed the special exhibit on Angkor, the dinosaurs and the rocks/minerals. There was enough here to keep us busy all day. The T-Rex Cafe had a pretty good variety of foods and was reasonably priced for a museum meal. Fries were $4.50, hot dog was $5.50 and soda was $4.00 (Freestyle fountain drinks with many flavors) with FREE refills.

On one of the upper floors there is a cool sunny room where you can get a good outdoor view. Also a place to sit and rest (and perhaps take a quick nap).

I thought some of the exhibits looked dated - like the gems and minerals area, which I saw online is scheduled to be "reimagined" starting in 2026 so that's good to hear.

Very disappointed that the Egyptian area was closed and the Exhibition Health had areas/activities that were out of order.

Great exhibits - lots of interactive places

By Heather M |

This is a great day out for young and older out of the weather. You can choose to just do the museum or add the IMAX and other special exhibitions. We used our city pass so just did museum which was a day in itself.

We used the #20 bus from downtown to right outside the museum $6 each for an all day local pass bought at a light rail stop ..for bus and any RTD service...

Lots to see, gems and space were great

By DebbieGMadison_CT |

This was our first visit. We were impressed with the exhibit about the Bluffs archaeological find which showed the demise of dinosaurs due to an asteroid. The gem and mineral collection is also very good. The volunteer said the gym exhibit was small, but it was equal to or better than the Yale Peabody exhibit.

NOT THAT INTERESTING!!

By Denny B |

Would NOT chose to spend money or effort to visit this institution again! It cost 2 X as much in transportation as admittance!

We love to learn!

By HappyAbby |

My husband and I learned a lot while checking out the exhibits. Everything is laid out well so you don’t miss anything. Seeing the mummies, gems, and the space exhibit were our favorites. We got to hold meteorites and hear a speaker at no extra charge.
The T-Rex Cafe is a great spot for lunch. Things were reasonably priced and made to order. I really liked that the museum composts so much instead of throwing everything away.

Great way to spend the day

By shayshay619 |

Kids had a blast in the free play area and really enjoyed all of the exhibits. The Pixar Exhibit was neat but our kids weren’t really interested so it wasn’t worth the extra $10 per person for us. 3yo, 4yo and 11yo- none of them cared for it but the adults thought it was neat. Besides the fact someone stole my husbands jacket from the coat rack we had a great day.

Pixar Exhibit Exceptional

By Shanette C |

I’m not a huge fan of natural history museums because I don’t love looking at taxidermy animals. But I do love science museums and stuck to those exhibits. One of the best I’ve ever seen was the Pixar exhibit, especially the kiosks with videos explaining the specific challenges of each element of the CGI animation and how all the pieces come together. It was fascinating!

Interactive Museum

By Alexa B |

I planned a last minute trip to Denver, and this was not originally on my places to visit. However on my last day in Denver I had some time to kill, and decided to go to the science museum, which was reasonably priced at around $20 for adults. I was interested in the guitar exhibit which was a special exhibit going on, and still is there. The museum is very interactive with lots of hands on things to do. There's a lot of things for kids to do, but there are also a lot of interesting exhibits that adults would find interesting as well. The museum is located in City Park so you can see a view of the skyline. I came at a time when there was a ton of kids due to field trips coming to the museum.

Wonderful experience

By Alex A. |

My kids spent a lot of time with the animals and dinosaurs, they loved them. It was a 2:30 hour visit and they didn’t want to leave the museum. The only problem was that they have to close and they basically asked us to leave reception to officially close the doors, while we were waiting for our Uber to pick us up.

So much to look at and educational!

By Ksmith1994 |

Brought my grandfather here after some convincing him to get out of the house after my grandma died. He’s been very isolated so I thought the science museum would be a fun family outing. I even surprise bought tickets to the Egypt exhibit. My grandfather was super tickled pink when I brought him here. The first place I brought him was the Egypt exhibit. He LOVED it!!! He was so excited about the exhibit, consistently pulling me over to the exhibit in Egypt he was looking at. He would talk about it and give me little facts he knew. He overall had a fantastic time. We went through almost every exhibit but the planetarium. It was worth every single penny to see my grandpa smile the way he did in such a long time. It was very educational to both of us. If you want something super cool and learn, come here. There is also tons of stuff for kids to adults to do. Their exhibits are super educational and so much to see and look at. If I lived in Denver I’d definitely come back more to see the planetarium and other new exhibits this place offered.

Worth the visit on a cold day

By Bailey H |

It had just snowed in Denver & was quite chilly. We decided to check it out and we’re quite surprised with how much fun we had. This museum has great views of the Denver Skyline & when we were there, they had a Pixar exhibit which showed you how Pixar creates their movies.

Would be perfect for families or a one time visit!

Very nice museum

By EricSD |

We visited the Egypt exhibit that was travelling through. It was nice and thorough. One gripe is it was spring break week and a batch of ~8-10 year old kids were extremely rowdy, banging on exhibits, running around. The exhibit minders that were in every room didn't intervene (nor did their parents unfortunately).
As expected the dinosaur exhibit was very comprehensive. There were flip of questions at various places to keep the kids engaged. As a recommendation, put some rubber bumpers on the underside of the plastic flip ups as the kids were having a blast banging them back down to make a clapping sound. It was disrupting everyone else. Thankfully I had my noise cancelling Airpods - a life saver.
The exhibit of the various minerals was the most comprehensive I have seen and was beautiful.
There was a cafeteria that offered soft drinks and pizza. We didn't try the pizza but it smelled good.
There was an exhibit of Russian folk people made out of various minerals that was really amazing. Little characters of amazing detail all made from shaped and polished minerals of different types.

Really enjoyed it!

By PaulaB212 |

We went to the museum with our 6 year old granddaughter - we are really glad we did this instead of the children's museum - I suspect she would have been a smidge too old for that. She was THRILLED to see the mummy and sarcophagus, as well as the dinosaur bones. There are three floors of exhibits, with numerous ways for kids (and adults!) to interact with the exhibits. The imax on the Great Coral Reef was a huge hit too. The timed admissions also seemed to help with crowd size, and I found the prices on the add ons to be very reasonable (i.e. imax, Numbers in Nature, etc.)

Worth a trip

By Schwersl |

Great day and would definitely come back. We spent five hours here and could have spent many more. There were a few exhibits we didn’t get to and a couple of shows we missed.

The senses exhibit was really nice and the Superdog IMAX movie was awesome. I highly recommend. My grandson is nine and everything was interesting to him. He especially liked the health exhibit and having the card to us at each activity. We didn’t get to spend as much time there as he wanted.

Great Nat.Hist. Museum in Denver.

By Gary W S |

This is an OUTSTANDING Natural History Museum. Museums are often overlooked, but if you have 2-3 hours, you’ll be glad you went…and always has additional traveling exhibits. I give it a 9.5 out of 10. Worth your time.

Da Vinci exhibit

By stevezerbe |

Fascinating exhibit. First time in this museum and there was tons of things to see and do. I ended up upgrading my ticket to a full membership so we can go back multiple times.

Definitely better for families and children

By KermitHereford |

This is a nice museum in lovely grounds. The building is huge, so lots of walking, but much of the space is walkways or closed exhibits. I found a lot of the dioramas a bit dull (sorry). The dinosaur area is good. There is lots for children, so I'd recommend it for them.
I spent about 2 hours there and had seen enough.

Great Visit

By Christine U |

Had a great time with the sport exhibit and the health exhibit. Maybe the animals are better for younger aged individuals. Did the planetarium and IMAX too. Would recommend. Really enjoyed the Pixar exhibit.

Many interactive exhibits but bring cash

By Watersprite91 |

We brought our favorite 6 year old. She showed us the awesome floor of hands on things. However. We were dismayed by the large number of exhibits that required extra money. Should be listed on website so one can negotiate with child in advance.

Great museum to visit!

By Denise704 |

We just visited this museum with our two teenage boys. We were worried it may be better for younger kids, but it was GREAT for all ages. It was so big, I think we need a second visit to finish seeing everything, but we really enjoyed our visit. I highly recommend visiting this museum if you are in the area.

Great place for all ages!

By willam c |

We visited during the pandemic, but the staff created a very good experience despite that sad situation for us all.

This place is a not to miss in Denver!

Neat Museum

By King Dog |

Interesting museum. In my opinion, it could use a little more variety as opposed to a pervasive emphasis on certain select topics. You're probably looking at about an hour to maybe an hour and twenty minutes, if you don't do an IMAX movie.

Plenty to see

By Songbird865 |

We are museum members who live out of town but try to get here when there is a new exhibit. This time also went thru several standard exhibits including the Egyptiam mummy's and gems. Museum following COVID guidelines. Reservations required for entrance and special exhibits. Cafe selections limited now but good made to order food.

Fascinating and well designed

By owlcub |

This museum had outstanding exhibits from the jaw dropping dinosaurs to the sparkling gems, and stunning views of downtown on the fourth floor! The exhibit of Colorado ecosystems was also quite enjoyable and the toddler loved it!

Family vacation

By Aspenbreeze |

We all enjoyed the museum. The space section was interactive and very interesting. The layout was easy to navigate. And, the snacks were actually well priced.

Excellent Museum

By NearlyRetired68 |

I was a tourist visiting Denver, and I picked this as one of the places to visit while there. I’m very glad I did. This is an outstanding museum. I particularly enjoyed all of the dioramas. I learned a lot, and my only regret is that I ran out of time before seeing all of the exhibits. I highly recommend it.

Very interesting and fun

By Xavier T |

The museum is very nice, well placed and super interesting related to dinosaurs, the variety of animals of the state of Colorado

Much more than expected

By OldManBob |

My wife and I visited as she enjoys anything related to dinosaurs. Both are in our early 60's but still enjoyed the museum immensely. There were a number of key exhibits going on. I was a little disappointed that some required extra admission above the museum admission price, such as the planetarium and the Leonardo da Vinci exhibit and the IMAX. I also wish the senior discount for admission was available at a lower age; one has to be 65 to qualify which is a higher age than many other senior discounts at other attractions or hotels/restaurants who use ages of 55 or 60 to qualify. That said, the general admission still provided a very good bang for our buck. The wildlife, bird, mummy and dinosaur exhibits were much larger than we expected. The presentations were very professional and I feel match those of any other national or well-known museums such as the Smithsonian or the Natural History Museum of LA. We were pleasantly surprised at the detail and abundance of items in each collection. They also had a viewing area so one could observe the many volunteers working away in the fossil exhibit. That was super cool!. The gift shop was a little small and the T-Rex café only had pizza to select on the Friday afternoon we visited. All in all, I feel a very good value for the price, liked the free parking, and definitely a great place for the kids as well.

Outstanding rocks and gems is just the start!

By DaveELyons |

If you like rocks at all, you will love this collection! Amazing crystals, rocks, and info! The DaVinci exhibit was inspirational and fascinating - so many media used to dhow and teach his genius and ideas. One of the best exhibits I have ever seen - history, science, art, and military. The Health exhibit was super kid-friendly and fun. A huge collection of wild animals preserved by taxidermy. Great for all ages, wheelchair friendly. Parking can be a monster, so try to go when you have plenty of time.

Great for Kids

By ArielleQ |

This is truly a great museum. My kids enjoyed exploring all of the rooms, loved digging for dinosaur bones and could have happily played in the discovery zone for hours. If we lived nearby I’d definitely by a membership.

Great Place for Young and Old

By VSMTraveler |

The Denver museum always has fun and interesting exhibits for all ages. IMAX is a nice bonus because it is not crowded and is accessed through the museum. If you are local or want to spend more than one day at the museum a membership is the way to go. Not only do you get access to the Denver museum but it can also be used for other museums across the country.

Impressive

By Lauren Butterfield |

I went here this past Sunday whenever it was free admission day. I recommend getting there early or going towards the end of the day. We went right around 3:00 p.m. and it was beyond crowded.

You can spend a good 3 hours here with all of the different exhibits. The museum is 3 floors filled with a kid area, lots of different animal exhibits, health exhibit, etc. They have a lot of bathrooms located throughout the museum as well as a cafe and staff to help navigate you. I'd grab a map from the information center right when you walk in so you know where to go throughout your visit.

Overnight at the Museum

By Ruth M |

The museum offers an amazing overnight program to schools in the city. There were about 300 5th graders attending. I chaperoned with my granddaughters class. It was amazing and fun!! This is a memory they will have forever!

Super day at the museum

By Jonathan D |

We were welcomed by a volunteer who told us the things not to miss. Amongst other was the view from the 4th floor, not on a normal route but absolutely worthwhile going up. The Denver skyline with rockies on the background.
Inside we had a great explanation on the galaxy and beyond from another volunteer. And the journey through all the animals of Amerika and beyond. Absolute a-must do!

The Museum

By DeadPool |

It is a wonderful museum that covers a wide variety and they are always adding something new which is wonderful.

Leonardo

By harborcritic |

I would recommend the DiVinci exhibition to anyone who can appreciate this man's genius.

We spent 2 hours there, but could have spent 4 or mote.

This is the third time we visited the Museum, and each time, there has been something special going on.

The special exhibitions are absolutely great; but the museum without them stands as an unbelievable experience.

Their everyday exhibits and programs are certainly some of the best in the entire
US.

Not a Priority Visit

By Shoucair |

To start, I bought my ticket on line so I could just get scanned in ($20). Honestly don't have to worry about too many lines in Denver. I only had two hours to see the whole museum due to the bus schedules being inaccurate on their own website. I'm going to be honest, trains are great, buses are not always on the schedule. If you want to see alot, like I did either start out first thing in the morning or rent a car. I've been to large museums in DC, Chicago, etc and was thinking this is a major city, should be great, it was definitely different. It was more of a small town museum with a couple perks. Don't go there looking to be blown away with amazing exhibits. I was able to see everything within 2 hours. Here are the Pros/Cons.

Pros: If you have small children, this is for you. It's spacious and comfortable, not cold. This museum is stroller friendly. Has escalators (they have a window you can look into to see the escalator working) or regular stairs that I prefer. Museum was filled with 98% families with young children. Decent gem/mineral exhibit (mining setup exhibit, it was nice to walk through) and dinosaur exhibit (nice setup, they have you walk through stages of eras). Different not bad planetarium showings for space. Have a small restaurant. Allowed food/drinks, but of course not in the exhibits. Great things about geared toward children museums, more touching allowed. Allows touching of some specimens in the Dinosaur exhibit (oldest rock, fossilized seashells, dinosaur footprint, petrified Triassic tree, mammoth teeth...) The mammoth teeth very neat. It was very enjoyable watching them excavate fossils in their lab. The animal exhibit is full of replica animals and vegetation etc which was not bad. Gift shop has nice items, definitely bring more $50 (Shirts are $25, mugs are $20....bring more money).

Cons: 3 stories and it almost feels like you're walking through an office building than a museum. If it wasn't for a couple fossils hanging around I would've thought I was. There's a handful of exhibits and they are not large except the dinosaur one which half of the bones are cast. Egyptian exhibit was disappointing due to the fact there was very few items. Reconstruction of the mummy face was neat. Bad thing about children's museums, it's the basics and nothing really in depth. By the way: caution to parents. The Dinosaur exhibit has this creepy grassland pig in it's own room (look at the photo with grassland), it's huge and would provide plenty of bacon in it's day, it snorts at you and it's again creepy. Kids may get scared, but it's so tall, they may overlook it.

Overall, it's not bad, just expected way more. Definitely for children. If you're solo or with adults, don't make this a priority visit.

Cool Museum to visit

By Charrisse H |

First, this museum is quite a bit to view so if planning to go don’t wait to late in the day to do so or you won’t have enough time to view, learn and absorb everything this museum has to offer. It is a beautiful museum to view and there is lots to do. The exhibits are huge, interactive and well taken care of. They also have quite a bit of additional activities within the museum for kids or kids at heart to do. Great for individuals, families or groups.

Amazing Museum

By Monica R |

This museum had a lot of different topics for everyone. My favorite section was the gem section which I didn’t expect to love so much! It features an actual cave that was extracted and displays REAL gems in the wall! The entire museum is so immersive and really puts you in the mindset in each section! It was by far one of my favorite museums that I’ve been too!!

Would not recommend for adults with no kids

By Samantha Gardner |

I think this would've been fun if we had kids, but for two childless 20-somethings it was rather dull. One whole floor is basically just dead stuffed animals. Most of the interactive stuff is only for kids under 10 (or you can do it as an adult but feel silly). The gem exhibit is cool but there are only so many dead things you can look at before it's just depressing. Would've liked to see something interactive that didn't feel like it was for toddlers.

Way better than the zoo

By Rodrigo V |

If you encounter yourself in Denver during March and with small kids, this Museum is definitely the place to spend a day, there are tons of activities and exhibitions for folks of all ages.

Great Museum, Lots to See

By Amy W |

We had a few things planned for our one day in Denver. I'm glad that we went to the museum first, because we managed to spend the entire afternoon here.

There were lots of great, interactive exhibits for Space. The rock and gem collection was extensive. The ancient cultures was informative and included current events for native Americans. The animal collection was large, and well designed to really show the scale of some of these rare or extinct animals.

Lots of Taxidermy

By Amy T |

My boyfriend and I are huge science nerds (biology and physics majors in college) so when we heard that there was a science museum in Denver, we had to go! Unfortunately, the emphasis was on nature in this museum and most of the exhibits were taxidermied animals. By the end of the day, we felt like we should have gone to the zoo instead where we could have seen live animals. Still some rather interesting exhibits that don't involve stuffed dead animals and we did learn about some cool critters.

Great museum for kids

By Chad2014 |

We went with our 1 and 4 year old so they could have fun and let off some steam while in Denver. Our initial exposure to the facility was less than ideal because we had an incredibly difficult time finding parking. The entire parking lot for the museum and the adjacent zoo was completely full with many many frustrated parents hunting for spaces. We finally parallel parked on a road across the street, wish we had thought of that sooner. Once inside the museum, we really enjoyed ourselves. We had booked online and walked right in. We spent most of our time at the childrens Hands-On area in the back of the museum. The playground where you can dig up fossils was a hit. Also, my four-year-old daughter really enjoyed the interactive time led by the museum employee where they practice identifying different animal footprints. I thought that the dinosaur exhibit was wonderful and I like that this museum has lots of interactive components in general. The food court was nice and Even reasonably priced. After several hours we had to go, my daughters did not want to leave! You would likely need more than one day to see everything in the museum. a great museum, just fix the parking!

Good for children

By wtr67 |

The museum has a lot of different small exhibits about dinosaurs, space, health etc. Saw tons of kids there and most exhibits are geared towards children. Has planetarium and Imax theater. Located just off Denver city park so nice to walk in the park before or after.

Good picture

By ignaciosf |

Good museum in which you will find endless samples of the science whether minerals and animals of the area or Central and South America. Good ride.

So many interesting exhibits!

By mitakous |

Hubby and I spent a very enjoyable couple of hours at the museum, and could have stayed longer if we'd had more time available. We especially enjoyed the extensive collection of minerals, the butterflies, the exhibit on Stonehenge, and the exhibit on Egyptian mummies.

One of the best museums

By Sara O |

One of the best museums I’ve ever visited!! We were there with our 5-month-old baby, and he absolutely loved it, he was fascinated by the different animals behind the glass. There is so much information and many interesting sections to explore. We spent about 3–4 hours there, and it was an amazing experience. An incredible place, and we will definitely come back!

Didn't want to leave

By Peter B |

Looking after young grandchildren in Denver, we decided to visit the Natural History Museum, hoping to keep them entertained for an hour or so.
It was such a diverse and fascinating place, that they didn't want to leave after 3 hrs! Many hands-on experiences and interesting talks by staff. Wonderfully maintained.

T-Rex, Mummies, and Astronauts, oh yes!

By pvtsam1775 |

I’m a museum professional. I love museums. It isn’t too often anymore that I am in awe of a museum. I was in awe of this place.

Exhibits are thoughtfully designed and curated. Interactive elements throughout are the perfect blend of education and entertainment. More than once, I found myself looking at a minute exhibit detail and saying “that is SO COOL!”

This place is the perfect mix of local history, culture, and science, and clearly stays relevant with their audience. I came looking for dinosaurs, and found so much more.

I also found the cafe to be well-stocked and reasonably priced.

Awesome museum

By david m |

My family and our last full day in Denver went to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. This museum was awesome. We reserved our tickets a head of time but not for the special exhibits or the planetarium. The workers told us that we really will enjoy ourselves even if we only had 95 percent of museum access. The museum employees were very knowledgeable and friendly. Our kids loved every exhibit especially the fossils. We spent a good three to four or more hours there going through each floor systemically. We also love its location out in the park.

Vacation

By Brandi1970 |

We had a good time. Didn’t get to see all of it. Worth the monies. Cafe food was good for the setting. Beware of a large number of school groups. If you encounter a large number of s hook groups go to the back and top sections of the museum first.

Was great back in the day

By Papabear63 |

Very crowded and over priced. They use to the Hall of Life display , hands on stuff. The museum has changed this Hall of Life to a Hall of Crap. Like I said very crowed now and over priced. I use to go on field trips to the Denver Museum since I was in 3 rd grade. It has changed a lot. A Native of Colorado and a lot of things have changed in Denver for the worst.

Magnificent museum!

By LoveToLiveLarge |

We flew in from out of state to Denver to see the Leonardo Da Vinci 500 Years exhibit at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, and we were not disappointed. It was absolutely fabulous! Unfortunately the exhibit will be closing soon, but the museum itself is still well worth a trip from anywhere. The staff were super friendly and helpful and actively wanted to enhance your experience in any way they could. A thoroughly satisfying activity.

Good Time

By chris t |

Went on a free day and it was very crowded as expected, but were able to see most of the exhibits. Something for everyone and all ages, but especially younger kids.

Something for everyone

By GramPlus |

We loved it! Also did the Imax show on Volcanos, amazing. Very accessible, my grandson had broken his foot. We got a parking space close to the entrance.

Great way to spend the afternoon!

By JW traveler |

The museum is filled with very interesting exhibits. Choose one you are interested in and you will not be sorry. I use to take the grandchildren there and we loved our time there. So fun! Enjoy!

Must visit

By Booze777 |

This was better than expected. I really enjoyed all they had to show. Great exhibit of all the animals, dinosaurs & ancient Egypt. The movie theatre was amazing looking up and that huge screen!

Great Museum with Many Facets

By Pamela P |

We went to the Museum of Nature and Science on a rainy day in Denver. We paid extra and went to the special Egyptian display on the legacy of the Pharaohs. The timeline displays regarding different rulers were informative. More large antiquities on display would improve that section. Gem and Mineral section was cool and offered beautiful gems and a peek into Colorado's mining history. After the Asteroid was phenomenal. It told the story of how Earth rejuvenated itself after 75% of life was destroyed by an asteroid along with the dinosaurs. Space Odyssey was OK -- good for kids. The Native American displays of every tribe in
the US, the full sized wildlife displays and After the Asteroid were the best part of the museum.

Terrific natiral history museum

By Monty10001 |

A spectacular major museum that is well worth a visit if you have 2-3 hours to spare in Denver. I particularly enjoyed the many dioramas of North American natural history, but there is also an excellent history of life gallery, with many cool dinosaurs and mammals, and lots of other galleries too.

great if you are a lifelong learner - kid at heart

By Laura Q |

I recently visited this museum and was pleasantly surprised with how much there was to see! It was a couples trip. They could have finished in 2-3 hours but I could have done 3-4 hours. If your interests align with what the museum has to offer, then I'd definitely plan to spend more time there (space, health, insects, birds, guitars, mummies, gemstones, dinosaurs, etc) We didn't even do the extra exhibits/activities. Definitely worth the price! There is many interactive exhibits that are fun for all ages. My favorite was being able to smell some planets and make my own moon crater simulation.

Hands on Pixar Studio Tech

By Resorteye |

We were very impressed with the quality of the natural history exhibits, from the smallest bugs to bull moose and brown bears. The displays and associated notes are laid out for ease of access by both adults and children. The wing of extreme sports offered lots of hands on experiences with everything from rock climbing to parkour. The youngsters attending were very engaged.

For us though, the special exhibit on the Pixar movie studio was the highlight of our visit. The step by step process of creating a full length computer animated theatrical film was so engaging. Hands on workststion brought to life the computing tools for creating characters, plants, sounds, motion, and more. The themes of technology, mathematics, and artistic creativity were so were intertwined. This exhibit alone is worth the entrance fee.

Top notch

By Michael |

This museum was great. Lots to see and do and they even have a cafe so you don't have to leave to get lunch. For me, the endless diorama's with the animals was very interesting.

Amazing exhibits

By Steigenberger592 |

We loved the variety of exhibits in this museum. The Space hall has number of interesting displays including a huge topographical Earth globe and a nice exhibit/video on the Mars rovers.

The prehistoric exhibit is rich with detail and includes a nice dinosaur exhibit that kids should like. The health exhibit has a variety of interactive exhibits that are fun and educational.

For us, the highlight was the nature exhibits. There were rooms and rooms of excellent dioramas displaying animals and birds from around the world in very realistic settings (the artists that built them did a fantastic job of simulating reality in 3-D.) The manatee exhibit was especially fascinating -- it looked as if the manatees were actually under water.

Ths is well worth a visit. If you are staying downtown without a car, it is easy to travel by #32 bus.

The Coors Mineral Museum is the highlight.

By AZ85603 |

The Coors Mineral Museum is the highlight. The extreme sports is OK, lots of little kids all over the place. The Expedition Health is good, just have to be patient to see any of the items, Lots and Lots of families all over the place. Enjoy but be aware that not all things to see and do are open all the time.

Dedicate some time

By Trek786997 |

You will want to make sure you dedicate at least a half of a day here. Great interactive areas. Fun for all ages. The only downside was that we only had 1 1/2 hours here.

Great experience

By Candy B |

Very big and has lots of cool things for the family to do and see. Very busy on the weekends, but still enjoyed ourselves.

Excellent dinosaurs

By jjhmolbio |

I LOVED the dinosaur exhibit and the dioramas were pretty awesome. A very good museum if you are sick of all the bars and breweries.

Great museum!!!

By kates5283 |

We stopped here mainly for the dinosaurs, but were blown away with all of the other exhibits. It was easy to get to and the parking garage was great! It kept the car cool in the hot summer sun! The museum is welcoming and divided up well for exploring. We loved the animal halls and the dinosaurs, but we really loved the rock/gem area! The kids loved that it looked like an old mine. Be prepared on busy days to have this area take more time, though, because people were not moving at all in the gem room. We didn't see any of the movies so I cannot comment on that. Our kid's most favorite part was the "time traveler." They loved hearing the story of the constellation Capricorn and they remembered all of it and wanted to look up the others when we got home. Overall, it was a good place to visit on our trip to Denver. Kids are ages 16 and 9 and both enjoyed.

So Big

By Jerry H |

Not a quick visit. Plan for a full day with lunch on site. The diaramas of animals from all counties is extensive and saves a fortune in travel costs. Always a featured exhibit like da Vinci in 2019 and the 3D movie selection extra. Many children oriented spaces. From hanging dino bones to minerals, space, health, insects and interactive sections, you will be amazed at how long it can take to still be halfway thru. Gift shop and restaurant to rest between floors.

Family visit

By H2k |

One of the best museums I have been to . A lot of fun and educational activities for all ages. Clean and well organized .highly recommend it . Plan for at least half a day

Museum of history

By Melissa H |

We spent three hours here and didn't get to see it all. The place is huge with lots of walking. Interactive exhibits were great for the little one.

Immaculate Museum

By Viewer11749 |

This museum was in my opinion, very similar to the Field Museum in Downtown Chicago, and even so, from the outside, The Museum looks crowded in the midst of a vibrant view of Denver's City Park that overlooks Downtown from a distance. While from the inside, it is very historic and wide, met with a large atrium expanding 3 floors of attractions. All of the attractions in particular are informative and very good to see, out of the 7 I saw, my favourite was the Colorado gemstone collection which not only showcased specific metals found in Colorado mines, but went far and above with informative descriptions and origins of metals.

Overall, this museum is a very great way to spend time in Denver, especially when it comes to identifying more of the state's Natural History and World Science. I, for one will be trying to returning once per year.

Informational exhibits

By weazy |

This museum has much to see over 3 floors. My husband and I spent over 5 hours looking at exhibits and reading the descriptions. We learned a lot using the general admission tickets. We did not make it through the entire exhibit! The health portion was hands on and very informative. There were many child specific activities. Seeing real mummies was unexpected with revealing information. There are 2 choices for eating, a cafe and a grab-n-go. There was plenty of seating in the sunny, indoor courtyard where families could bring in their own meals or buy from the cafe, where the prices were reasonable. Free parking was nice and would recommend parking in the lower level garage if you're visiting in the summer months. For adults only, I would recommend planning an entire day to view all the exhibits, however, it would probably not work with children. For a diversion for children, there was an outdoor area that had pulsating jets of water to run around in to cool off.

Great Photographer's Platform For City View

By Lifetraveler1 |

I needed to escape the confine of Covid encampment, so I flew into Denver on Southwest Airlines.

Used this place as a photographer's platform. The most balanced view that you can get of Denver Colorado with the Rocky Mountains in the background is from this location at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. The Museum and the Zoo are a part of the City Park complex.

I've been in the museum pre Covid and post Covid and it appears to have a lots of interesting exhibits and displays, but I go there mainly to get great photographs of the City of Denver and the backdrop behind it.

There is an elevated platform that faces towards the city on the 3rd or 4th floor.

Here are some photographs that you can get (well, not as good as mine)!

The highlight of our trip to Denver!

By Les M |

This place is amazing! Lots of fun for kids and adults. From the moment you walk in you're just surrounded by cool stuff to see and do.

The kids favorites were the Planetarium and the Maze/Puzzles exhibit. Parents enjoyed Egypt and the Minerals/Gems exhibit. But there really weren't any duds. We enjoyed the entire museum.

We didn't eat there, but it did look like the onsite restaurant was pretty good. The gift shop is also pretty cool with lots of stuff for kids to drool over.

We spent almost four hours there and it was worth every second!

Terrific Museum

By LindyT49 |

We visited the Museum in September and February. This is a great museum and we really enjoy going there. There are 3 floors and many exhibits on each floor. There is also a restaurant/cafeteria so you may want to go in the morning and stay for lunch, and see the rest of the exhibits in the afternoon.

A bit of fun and learnings

By TheHen2717 |

We had a great time tour this museum. The Dinosaur exhibit was fun and educational. I really loved the Egyptian mummy exhibit, and the work the museum did UsingMRIs and CTScans to learn more about the mummies. The wild animals and gems exhilarating were good also. The museum was also have a special event with dinosaur cookies and hot chocolate for free!

If you have kids, take them

By CrystalEats |

I went solo and really enjoyed the exhibits. However I kept thinking, I wish my kids were younger and here, as they’d have a blast.
Lots of hands on activities for littles. But even as an adult, wonderful exhibits and knowledge shared.

Wow! What a dynamic facility!

By Jacqui B |

Fantastic facility, great design and layout making it so user friendly for all ages and abilities. The kids space changes all the time so they never get bored with the hands-on displays and plenty for the adults to ponder as well.

Monet A+++

By Darrin C |

Attended for the Monet exhibit which ends Feb 2. Attend if you can because it is an educational experience and a treasure trove for art lovers.

Hands on

By fratwin |

We really enjoyed our time here though we didn’t get to all exhibits. There is lots of great hands on activities for younger children. Make sure to get a map and figure out what you want to do so you are not wandering around trying to figure it out.

Fantastic Museum

By Sherry F |

Highly recommended. Wildlife dioramas were breathtaking. Incredible paleontology and gem/mineral exhibits. On par
or exceeds Smithsonian.

Mostly for Children

By Travelfreak101 |

We did not enjoy this museum as we felt that it was geared more toward children. There were a lot of interactive games that made it seem more like a children's museum. We debated between this and the zoo and I think the zoo would have been a better choice.

Great museum

By MyersFamilyTravelers |

Really cool place. We spent more time here than we thought. Very cool exhibits and is geared for all ages.

Do you have time to see it all?

By Taylor B |

The Denver Museum of Nature and Science is big in every way. Located at 2001 North Colorado Boulevard, the 716,000-square-foot building houses more than one million objects in its collections, including natural history and anthropological materials. It employs 350 full-time and part-time staff members and more than 1,800 volunteers. More than 300,000 teachers and students visit the museum with school groups each year. And nearly two million people visit the museum annually. Founded in 1900, the museum offers programming in six main areas--exhibits, IMAX films, lectures, classes and programs pertaining to anthropology, geology, health science, paleontology, space science and zoology. There is so much to see. It's like going to the Museum of Science and Industry or the Field Museum in Chicago. It's good to plan ahead. What interests you? What do you want to see? Permanent exhibits include Expedition Health, which teaches visitors about the human body; Space Odyssey, which teaches about the Universe and our place in it; Prehistoric Journey, which traces the evolution of life on Earth; Wildlife Halls, which features dioramas showing scenes of daily life of many different animals; Birds of the Americas; Explore Colorado: From Plains to Peaks; and Coors Gems and Minerals, where visitors can examine many colorful crystals and minerals found locally and globally, including the largest specimen of rhodochrosite ever discovered, and see the museum's oldest exhibit, crystalized leaf gold.

One of the best museums in the world

By Mingming Y |

If you are in Denver area, this is a must come to visit place. A lot knowledgeable staff, great exhibits, interactive activities. Not adults and kids woul enjoy it.

Plan a half day here at minimum

By Beth A |

Hours of exhibits to wander, with at least 5 large permanent installations and 2 guest exhibits on the top floor. Perfectly suited for adults but geared towards children, and expect many young children and the noise and traffic that comes with on a weekend.

Must be a thing to do in Denver

By rurbinasalgado |

If you are traveling with kids or just teenagers, and visiting Denver, this museum should be on your list of things to do in Denver. The exhibits were all great and the presentations were entertaining and well prepare.

Big museum!

By World Trotter Here and Beyond |

This might the number 1 attraction in Denver. You must be here as early as possible to skip long lines and crowded atmosphere. This place is big with various types of exhibits. Our favorites are the gems and prehistoric journey. Dinosaur collections are nice and very educational. There are hands-on activities for everyone. Price is average and you can also avail of their membership offers. If you get hungry, they have food inside the museum.

Nice museum for families

By bdtiedt |

I grew up going to the field museum in Chicago so when had a half day to kill in Denver thought we’d come here. I think it is a museum that’s more fun with children. Or maybe it’s just I’ve been to field museums a lot. The health exhibit was fun but unfortunately many of the activities that you’d use your card to build a printout at the end weren’t working. The space exhibit was interesting and the volunteers were very helpful. I was impressed with the helpful volunteers all throughout the museum. Oh and the dinosaur exhibit was fun too. We didn’t see the gem and mineral exhibit since we went to the geology museum in Golden a few days ago. Overall I highly recommend this museum.

Denver has a special display, seen here only.

By Mike M |

Russian artist extraordinaire Konovalenko has created some of the most amazing sculptures from gemstones. His work must be seen to be appreciated. Go see it!!

Go early or late to avoid school groups

By Brian S |

The museum was beautiful but our experience was less than ideal by out of control school kids running wild, screaming, throwing things with little or no supervision. I know I sound like a curmudgeon but it ruined the experience.

We all enjoyed this and could have stayed longer

By Nicole R |

The exhibits we're very interesting and the cafe was reasonably priced with a good selection and salad bar. I could have stayed longer. Glad we went, worth the entrance fee

Fascinating place to visit

By tclwtr |

This museum is huge and has many interesting displays. Leave yourself plenty of time to enjoy all the exhibits
Their current special section on extreme sports was particularly interesting to me.
The planetarium show on the solar system was fun and informative.

The extensive DaVinci exhibit is well worth the $25 fee.

By Bill |

Researchers have investigated Leonardo's codexes to devise actual models of some of his inventions, from catapults to helicopters to city models, and have built them! Also, the Mona Lisa is extensively explored and analyzed. Fabulous experience, even if you have been to other DaVinci exhibits.

Great

By Thomas P |

Just great for our kids 3 and 6. The children experience area is simple but they loved it. The dinosaur exhibition is just impressive to all

Worth seeing

By MyBucketListTrips |

Pros:

1. Great exhibits of dinosaurs and other prehistoric fossils, rock and minerals, Egyptian mummies.

2. Beautiful, expansive park outside the museum. Great for gorgeous view of the Rockies, walking and picnicking. Dog-friendly.

3. Large covered parking garage on-site. Parking is free.

4. Surrounding outdoor location is very clean and family-friendly.

5. Good food options in the cafe.

Cons:

1. Each special exhibits require a separate extra ticket, e.g., bug exhibit is additional $10 per person.

2. Fairly standard wildlife exhibits.

3. No paper maps of the exhibits. Digital map only.

4. No height signage in garage. If you have a sky-box on your car, park on level one. We had to back-up from level two due to our sky-box and low ceiling.

Great time and kids are still talking about it!

By Anisa G |

Kids had a blast! Definitely worth adding to the itinerary. We got into Colorado a couple days early and this was a great last minute activity. Very little wait and no need to may reservations weeks in advance.

Amazing museum for locals and tourists!

By Fearlesskaz |

Family grew up going here as kids and now are taking our kids there—really special for all of us. They do a wonderful job keeping it up and making it informative, interesting, and fun. And of course the t-Rex at the entry is a treat! City park itself is gorgeous. The views of city park and the Rockies from the museum are my favorite in Denver.

Bonus tip: if you are a member of a science museum in another area nationally, check to see whether this museum honors it. We were able to use our admission reciprocally and really appreciated that!

Gift shop was fun as well.

Simply Amazing

By Tom B |

Like the title says...it was amazing! Something for ALL ages. I walked away with a lot more knowledge about our planet and the solar system. The variety of exhibits is just spell bounding and the quality of presentations cannot be beat. Plenty of volunteers to help you in so many ways from directing you to certain exhibits to detailed explanations of the attractions that you are viewing. Hungry, no problem there is a food court with plenty of options and to top it off sit back and watch a 3D IMAX movie.

I love this museum

By JollyCruise |

I have been going to this museum since I was a kid. I now live out of state but came back since we were in the area visiting family. We were able to see the Pixar exhibit on this trip and it was GREAT! Fun for kids and adults. I never get bored coming to this museum, keep up the good work!

Well woth a Visit

By desertswim |

The Museum has excellent taxidermy dioramas, with more attention to the background than many other such displays. There is a pliosaurus skeleton hanging in the lobby. They have several programs in the Planetarium. I attended one narrated by Neil DeGrasse Tyson. They also have quite an extensive rock collection. If you head to the roof, you have wonderful views of downtown Denver and the Rockies beyond.

It would have been nice to be there at a time when a million school group hadn't descended on the Museum. You couldn't get near the cafe and certain areas were extremely crowded.

This is a must do!

By Stacy H |

We wish we had something like this in our area. It was way better than we had expected. The facility is huge and well thought out. It seemed to have something for everyone. Many hands on activities for the children. The staff were super helpful and friendly. We spent approximately 3 hours there however we easily could have spent 5+ so much to do and see. We chose to pop in simply to burn some time on one of our last days in town. We wish we had more time to explore this museum. Well done it’s a must do while in town.

Must Visit: Dinosaurs, Ice Age Animals, Gemstone, Mummies - Has it all!

By LuvtoSafari |

I think this is a must visit for visitors to Denver if you like nature and science. The museum tells the unique history of Denver through its native animals, flora and mining. And lots of Dinosaurs. I think it’s better than the NY Natural History Museum.

This is a natural history museum, science museum and planetarium all in one place. What’s unique here is the mixing or nature and science in a lot of the exhibits.

Location: Near a park close to Downtown. Plenty of free parking.

Museum: Allow at least 2 hours to see everything. More time if you want to take in one of the 2 nature movies and/or 3 planetarium shows.

Special Exhibition: Ice Ages is very well done and we learned that technically, we are currently living in an Ice Age (defined as when there is permanent ice on both poles). Climate change from human behavior is discussed in this context.

Highlights: Dinosaurs and other fossils were extensive. Some of the largest dinosaurs and lots of mammals as well.
Gemstones exhibit did an excellent job highlighting Colorado’s mining history, rooms look like inside of a mine. Lots of cool minerals. Lots of interactive consoles.

Even the old fashioned dioramas somehow look good, and not dusty and dated like other natural history museums we’ve been too.

There is also a small Egyptian exhibit with two mummies.

We really enjoyed our visit as adults. Kids would go wild. Loved it and highly recommend.

DaVinci, fun and informative

By Becky L |

Went to the museum to see the DaVinci exhibit. Learned many facts about his life, paintings and inventions. For the grandkids, there were hands on learning stations. They especially liked the catapult.
Saw the Senses, Mummies, and Gemstones exhibits.
The Senses exhibit had hands on learning.
Would like to return to see the other exhibit rooms.
Great activity for all ages.

Awesome

By Tracy V |

Had a 9 and 12 year old with and they each found their exhibits they wanted to see. We started out with the special map of gnomes that are hidden throughout the museum only found 2, then realized we found to look for them because the exhibits were so engaging. Wish we had more time to go through all the exhibits.

Great museum for children and adults alike

By Susan K |

My 17 year old daughter and i enjoyed this museum which is really more nature than straight science. Don't miss the top deck where there is a great view although a little hard to figure out how to get to it
Mu daughter loved the Leonardo Da Vinci exhibit which is a special exhibit and costs extra but was her favorite park of the museum

Fantastic Museum for Children and Adults.

By Cynthia473 |

Daughter and I visited Denver on a rainy day and this museum was perfect with great exhibits (especially the dinosaurs) and a special exhibit "Leonardo da Vinci" taking place at the time of our visit. Informative with a great gift shop.

Busy Day

By Usernamemaybe |

Museum is fairly large, with distinguishable areas to see. Lesson learned on using the culture pass, you still have to wait in line to get a real ticket, which was a bit confusing and frustrating. Visited on a Saturday and it was abnormally busy according to some folks we overheard.

A large museum something for everyone

By Mama B |

This museum has a lot to offer. It is very large and the staff was extremely helpful. There are many types of exhibits to see. This multi floor museum could easily entertain you for several hours.

A Spectacular Experience

By S R |

I’m one of the first to say “I’m not into museums” but this museum is wonderful. The interactive Space Exhibit was terrific for the children and the adults. There’s a wonderful play area for children, but be prepared for them to get wet, as well as have a good time. Ironically I thought the dinosaur exhibition was so-so. I’d definitely return, and give myself 4-6 hours to experience all of it.

Beautiful view, decent displays

By LBK1236 |

There are three floors of exhibits, so this place is huge. There were some interesting things, however my boyfriend and I ended up choosing a few exhibits to skip because of both time and some lack of interest. I did not feel that there was a lot of "wow factor" in the exhibits, however it is probably better appreciated by younger ages because of the large amount of interactive activities. Honestly the best part was the beautiful rooftop view of the city and mountains. I would describe my overall experience as 'meh'. Also they have a bar and concessions available in the hall, but then several exhibits don't allow drinks in?? I ended up chugging my drink so I could continue in the museum, seems counterintuitive.

A definite must!

By Patty P |

The Denver Museum of Nature and Science was truly a gift for visitors of all ages. I ordered tickets online ($1.00 less person online) and it made entry seamless. I was astounded by the number of volunteers. They were very friendly, helpful and engaged with the visitors. We especially enjoyed the gem and crystal exhibit and the Leonardo daVinci special exhibit. We were bummed that the American Indian exhibit was undergoing an update so it was closed til mid-November.
Rest rooms and drinking fountains were readily available. The venue was terrific. Loads of interactive exhibits for kids. The museum gift store was geared towards kids. Lots of great gift ideas. We will definitely return to see more on our next visit to Denver

Always a pleasure to visit!

By Jeanne B |

Our family has visited this museum many times over the years. I enjoy the stills of the state's wild life, minerals, and history. I like the new exhibits that are brought in periodically too. I recommend this museum to all. If it wasn't so expensive, I would give it 5 stars.

Pixar exhibit is must see for all ages

By Paul |

There are exhibits and interactive displays for all ages. There are many stations that show very detailed explanations of the steps in making animated moves. It is far more complex than I had imagined. Some of the exhibits are hands-on for very young and then more advanced for adults. But everyone will find something of interest.

Great museum

By Emily K |

Wonderful museum. Love how it is located on the city park grounds. Wish we didn't have to pay extra for so many things. But even the food was good.

Cool little day trip

By Mehershala3 |

This was a nice little day trip with my 12yr old son we enjoy history so the Ancient Egypt exhibit was amazing with a real mummy and everything

Fun Interactive Museum

By kbrownlaw |

Great mix of history, nature and science. The interactive health exhibit was our favorite! We loved doing the experiments.

Still great place to visit

By Bee80204 |

We had tickets given to us so we invited a friend and headed over. Timed entries now but we didn’t have any issues getting in. Parking was crowded but we found a space. Then we presented our tickets, and in we went. Looking at the map, we decided to start at the top floor and each picked one exhibit we wanted to see.
Decided to visit the Egyptian special exhibit first. You have to buy tickets for these special showings and we did that. The exhibit is interactive and had lots of videos and sounds to make it more interesting for the younger visitors. The 3D imagery was great as were the models. Such artisans with bold colors and imagination. I don’t even understand how they conceived the pyramids with inner chamber, much less built them. Amazing! The gift shop for that exhibit had some nice pieces and my friend bought something for his daughter.
Then we visited the health exhibit and had fun with the interactive health measurements. Walked across a ‘river’ on a wooden plank with our eyes closed, looked at our skeleton moving around - so fun.
We haven’t been here in years so it was interesting to see how they’re have changed some items and left some the same. The astronomy exhibit was great. Checked out the Mars landscape and our solar system compared to the entire galaxy. Oooh and ahhd at the gemstones. Lovely and shiny bits of semi-precious and precious stones. The gift shop is less cluttered but still has lots of cool stuff. Restrooms are now gender neutral and they have a mom’s rest area for breastfeeding which is nice. It was a good visit and we had a great time.

No - No dogs are hurt, but how they help a Several dogs from around the world are spotlighted for snow rescue, earthquake, at sea, catching poachers in Africa. Trust me - you will adore this film Take all the kids.

A good rainy day activity

By Samurai196 |

I love to explore museums, so we decided to hit this on a rainy afternoon, and we didn't have enough time to cover everything. Some of it can be a bit dull, but it wasn't too crowded or noisy, which made it easier to read and move at you're own pace throughout the exhibits that you really wanted to hit.

Great museum with so much to see

By Michele T |

We absolutely loved this museum!! So much to see here and such great exhibits. The animals on show were my favorite part. There was , mummies, dinosaurs, lots of gems, space exhibits and much more. Something for everyone. The food court here was great with lots of options and very helpful staff. Plan on at least a couple of hours here, although we spent more. Be sure to go to the very top deck where there are telescopes and incredible views of Denver!

One of the best museums I've been too

By 97mercurycougar |

3 stories of exhibits lots off cool things to see. Lots of nature and science exhibits. You can bring your own food to save money

Leonardo Da Vinci Exhibit

By Ronald L |

We were blown away by the current exhibit featuring Leonardo Da Vinci. This traveling exhibit is at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science until mid-August. This is a must see if you are in Denver. Da Vinci was way ahead of his time. We saw his many inventions as well as his Last Supper and Mona Lisa paintings. A whole room was dedicated to explaining the Mona Lisa painting. Very well done and extremely interesting.

Fabulous museum, a gem in Denver!

By Judith R |

This is a museum for people of all ages. The Discovery Zone for kids is fantastic! The exhibits are beautifully staged and there is a wealth of information. I love this place and so do my grandkids.

Da Vinci show was excellent

By BaccusRanch |

The museum offers a lot but we only had time for the DaVinci exhibit, which was fascinating and well done. There were quite a few hands on exhibits which both kids and adults enjoyed. Glad I went, well worth it

Good walking shoes needed

By FrankWill |

Loved this museum, especially the gem section. Has a little scavenger hunt as well with a gnome. You can spend quite some time here

Enjoyed our visit

By Melissa M |

We went for the art of the bricks exhibit and that was amazing. The museum had some interesting things; I enjoyed the diamond and mineral exhibit. I came with a teen but think it’s aimed at a younger crowd. .

Now this is a Museum

By Chris H |

This is truly one massive museum. This museum alone is a day trip, don't try fitting in multiple things if your going here. The had an Egyptian Exhibit that on tour so we added that to our ticket. The General price doesn't cover special exhibit or Planetarium. You have a timed entry to the special exhibit aka the Egyptian Collection. So we did that first up on the 3rd floor. It was Amazing. The size of this traveling exhibit is impressive. Moving it must be really hard. There was a lot of everything you can imagine. Lots of carved stone blocks. Sculptures and Jewelry. Writings and recreation of temples. Sarcophagus and Death tools. We spent an hour in this section alone. The rest of this floor Had Taxidermy of Birds, and the Prehistoric Era, aka Dinosaurs and other fossils. Plus there was their normal Egyptian section which is Much Much smaller. Overall the 3rd floor alone took 3 hours, and it was worth. A truly impressive collection of History. Then Moving on Down to the 2nd Floor they had all the non bird animal exhibits and the North American Indian Exhibit. This was another great experience with all the exhibits and information. It took another 90 minutes on this floor. We also spent about 30 minutes on the 4th floor Sky Terrace. The Views of the City of Denver with the Mountains in the background are Spectacular! This alone made this museum worth the entry fee.
At This point we were exhausted so we decided to leave. However we walked through the Space Section on 1st floor and that delayed us another 30 minutes. Easily could have spent twice that in that section. All in all we spent 5 1/2 hours here, and didn't actually see everything. No regrets though.

Overall the easiest 5 star review maybe ever. Would I return? In a heartbeat. To resee all the fascinating exhibits. To see the few exhibits I missed. To see the new rotating special exhibit, and to see the Planetarium. Worth it, Worth it, Worth it!

Fascinating Layover Visit!

By Maria J |

During a layover in Denver, my significant other and I decided to explore the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. It was a fascinating and engaging place! We saw lots of bones, but our favorite part was the human body section. Testing our wingspan and concentration was a unique and fun experience. Highly recommend for anyone with a few hours to spare!

Worth multiple visits

By kcbbill09 |

My favorite museum of all. I can't pick a favorite exhibit or floor. Dioramas, an IMAX theater, Leonardo hands on and more. All worth seeing again and new exhibits. See the stars, the wildlife, the senses we and other creatures possess.

Time Very Well Spent!

By Michael M |

I had a few extra hours to explore Denver and I was not far from the Museum. Parking was easy and I was able to get in and out of the check in area with no delay. The exhibit areas were fabulous and the animal displays were the best I had ever seen. I was learning lots without working at it. this is a first class operation and well woth the time and effort to visit.

Great exhibits

By Lisa W |

This is a very nice science museum with very nice exhibits. I especially liked the animal displays. They looked so real. The poison exhibit was very interesting also. We arrived in the afternoon, and I wish we had been able to spend more time there.

Great museum!

By Steve S |

We love the special exhibits the museum hosts and the permanent exhibits as well. We visit regularly!

Fun

By Grace L |

My kids went to this museum since they were little. It’s always amazing! A lot of people visiting at all times. Plan ahead for your trips! I would suggest it needs to be a whole day event.

Seriously overcrowded!

By Hike2dy |

When we were trying to decide what to do on my sister’s last day visiting we chose this museum. We were happy to see that they were doing timed entry. We bought our tickets online and off we went. Our “timed entry” was for 11:30. When we got there we were surprised that everyone else was buying tickets at the counter and entering. There was NO trying to keep the crowds under control. It was beyond crowded. Unruly children running and screaming, jumping in front of people trying to look at exhibits, I was even pushed by one kid, his parents were oblivious just like the rest of parents. We really wanted to check out the poison exhibit but it was so crowded we couldn’t get past the first four exhibits because there were so many people. I can’t understand what the two people outside that exhibit were doing, one watched us walk past, the other checked our ticket. Too bad they weren’t trying to control how many people were in the exhibit so everyone who wanted to see it could. Our favorite part was the rock and gem exhibit. It was a little disappointing because a lot of the rocks and gems on display were really dusty. And the Native American exhibit was closed, that was another thing we wanted to see. There is a lot of walking through hallways to get to each area, a lot of wasted space if you ask me. As a Colorado native who has been to this museum many times 20+ years ago, I was disappointed. My memories of the museum are way better than what I experienced yesterday. All in all, $25.95 is expensive for what they have to offer and dealing with the huge amount of people they let in.

Impressive

By Joeyriz |

I was impressed with this museum. It had a large mineral section. I enjoyed the medical section where you tested your body on different things like heart beat and got a print out of your results at the end.

Worth a visit, don't expect your mind to be blown

By Soumyajit_DM |

Sparsely filled, not as fleshed out as some of the other museums of natural history and science. The rock and gem collection was really interesting but there are a lot of simulated experiences which reminded me of amusement parks rather than a museum. You can perhaps complete the tour in 2-3 hrs. Overall a must visit in Denver if only for the rock collection alone.

Plan on spending the entire day. It was very interesting and fun. Lots of interactive education to entertain the entire family.

Big natural history museum with a million-dollar view

By FFei85 |

Easiest the best museum in the Denver area (Denver is NOT a museum city like NYC or Chicago). It is a comprehensive natural history museum that has something for everyone. The "panoramas" that display taxidermy mounts "in situ" were of fine quality and were very impressive. The gems and minerals exhibition was a must-see. On a clear day, the terrance has a million-dollar view (of the Front Range of the Rockies). Words can't describe how magnificent the view is!

Informative museum

By TAJ8225 |

A beautiful and informative museum for all ages. Do check out the 3d Theatre. Enjoyed the hours I stayed and checked out every floor and exhibit.

This museum is a pleasant surprise

By BigRobUTSA |

Plan to spend hours here, go early if you can. Take comfortable shoes, there will be a lot of walking to see all of the exhibits here. The sheer size and quality of exhibits reminded me of museums I'd see in Chicago or New York or even the Smithsonians in Washington DC. The different exhibits seem random, but it really is nature and science. There are permenant exhibits mixed in with temporary/traveling ones as well. We spent a good 4 hours here and still may have missed some things. Three stories and lots of walking on each floor made for an amazing day with my family.

Nice museum

By Howard L |

I didn't know that this was a "free" day, so saving the $$ was nice, but it came with a price of alot of people going that day. There was plenty of room and the exhibits were nice. I was probably more interested in exhibits that the kids weren't anyways, so good for me. I really enjoyed the rock and mineral display. They had samples of cricket cookies, which are worth "chirping" about. They were also handing out free waters that day. The museum are very friendly and I enjoyed my time there. Will definitely return and spend more time there.

Black hole

By Teakwo23 |

Went to the planetarium for the Blake hole movie. It was mind blowing! The space exhibit was very fun and interactive as well.

Wonderful museum

By Katie S |

This was a great museum to take kids to. Don't expect to go and not be bombarded by groups of kids. The gems and rock section was very cool. The wildlife halls were unique and educational. The mummy exhibit was cool to learn about. The gift shop was the only disappointing part of the museum as it did not have a lot of small collectable items for sale. Also too expensive for what they had.

Well done!

By Wade L |

A very well put together museum. The exhibits are exceptional to walk through with lots of hands on feel for the youth.

Groovy!

By Lori |

Something for everyone: geology, biology, wildlife, Egyptian relics, etc. There is a cool interactive unit on the human body. This includes how your heart and brain work, nutrition in foods, exercise, etc.
Lots if really cool displays of wildlife. Super prehistoric displays with lots of skeletal mounts.

Entertaining Afternoon

By Megan P |

Went with my partner for the afternoon. It was interesting and we learned a lot. The permanent exhibits were wonderful and engaging. We bought extra tickets for one of the temporary exhibits and it was well worth the extra. We didn't have our kids this time and really wish we had for our dinosaur fanatic.

Pretty good museum

By acadonnelly |

First off, my rating of three stars is kind of in comparison to other similar museums around the US. It was a fun visit, a nice museum. But I only spent 2-3 hours here and kind of felt like I saw it all, unlike my gold standard, the Houston museum of natural science, where a whole day isn’t enough. Admittedly I didn’t do the Da Vinci exhibit (it was sold out) but still. The gems and mineral exhibit was my favorite, although many of the minerals were very dusty-they either need to make better cases to keep the dust out or figure out how to clean them. The colors of my favorite mineral-wulfenite- were severely toned down by the dust, Red Cloud specimens didn’t show their colors much at all. All in all I’d recommend visiting, but compared to similar museums I’d say it is only average.

Worth a visit

By chicag009 |

The museum staff is super friendly! The museum is not huge. The dinosaur portion was a bit small compared to other museums. I expected to be bigger because of the dinosaur presence in Colorado. Worth a visit. Free parking is a nice bonus

90’s Vibes and Childhood Memories

By Cryptic_Tourist |

I can see why this is a beloved family museum here in Denver. You can tell it’s a little dated, but personally I LOVED this. It reminded me of the science museum I went to in my youth and brought back great memories.

Also? It was $18 for the entry fee and honestly that was surprising to me because there’s so much to do. You could easily spend an entire day here. We spent about 2.5 hours here but we go through museums pretty quick.

We also bought the tickets for the Egyptian exhibit and that was super cool too. Don’t miss the observation deck, it has a great view of downtown Denver. Also there’s so many different exhibits, it feels like they couldn’t decide what to display. It was also really busy but it wasn’t to the point where it was unbearable. The merch selection wasn’t great, kind of generic toys and stuff.

Showing its age...

By BAVANRUDEN |

Excited to come see a new museum while in town for the weekend. I think our first mistake was to come visit on a Sunday. It was absolute chaos the amount of people they had in there. The crowd definitely played into the experience. Once we got into each new exhibit, we felt like we immediately wanted to leave given the number of kids screaming and running everywhere. I get a museum is for people of all ages, but this visit made it feel like parents had just brought their kids here to use it as a playground. The original building itself was constructed in the early 1900s and instead of demolishing that building when they were updating, they decided to literally build around it. One of the more bizarre architectural liberties I've seen when it comes to museums. It felt like a lot of hallways and empty space came with the addition. The museum has potential, and some of the exhibits like the mine were really interesting. I had high hopes for this museum, but it doesn't hold a candle to many other museums I have visited in past years. DC, Chicago, and Milwaukee (even its current state), far surpass this museum. Wish I had better things to say, but the visit was a bust!

Worth going!

By Tami |

This was a lot of fun for my 9 year old daughter. We paid extra for the special exhibit and for the IMAX theater which were both worth it.

Great Museum

By EaglesFan27 |

There is so much to see and do here. I really enjoyed the gemstone section and the animal exhibits. We had such a good time and could have spent more time here, but had other plans for the day. I will definitely come back and take it all in again in more detail.

Great birthday

By crystalridinger |

My 9 year old wanted to go here for her 9th birthday, she loved it! We also did the planetarium which was amazing!

Get pics of the skyline

By Joe R |

This Museum was big and there was plenty to see. The best part in my opinion is taking pics in the back with the Denver skyline. I also wish these Museums would stop preaching evolution like it's a fact when it isn't. Its called a theory for a reason.

Fun and educational experience

By Deffi1030 |

A friend suggested this place since we have younger children (8 and 5). They absolutely loved it and didn’t want to leave! It’s a three story museum with multiple exhibits. My kids loved the space one exhibit and the ancient history (dinosaur) the most. We went to the second floor to the discovery zone where the kids got to do all sorts of hands on activities. It is definitely an experience for children and adults! I would definitely recommend it.

It was good )

By Olga H |

Fairly impressive exhibit of dinosaur bones and fossils. Very interesting geological exhibit feathering rare stones and minerals.

Pixar exhibit

By mickeym1234 |

Visited the museum to see the Pixar exhibit. Learned about the making of characters and movies. Well worth the extra admission cost. Then explored the 3 floors of the museum. Animals, mummies, gold...Oh My!!!
Realistic displays, well laid out, and great descriptions. Great for kids and adults. Learned alot.

Need more time

By Bryan L |

Due to the covid restrictions we got our ticket for a 3:20 pm entry. Even going in a bit early we did not have enough time to see everything. There are 3 levels and could have spent an hour on each one. Still, very impressive place to visit, have to come back to complete!

With some maintenance, could be an absolute home run!

By JLeisMom |

The displays varied wildly in quality and maintenance, but still fun, regardless. The rocks and minerals display was truly world-class, as was the fossil area. However, literally NOTHING worked in the body area - not a single display. This is really too bad because the potential to learn an absolute ton was definitely there. Time to shut that one down and completely gut and revamp it. Kids who are into dinosaurs are likely to have a wonderful time as huge, life-sized skeletons and absolutely everywhere in the museum! We very, very much enjoyed the Poisons exhibit and I learned quite a lot. Not too many screaming, out of control children, despite it being Monday of a holiday weekend! We very much appreciated the free admission for military, as my daughter (21) is active duty and my husband is a vet.

lots to see

By LI MASS |

exhibits are really nice and well lit. The space portion could be expanded with interactive things that actually work- most did not. Some were also out in the animal exhibits. Very Clean- hard to navigate as there were no maps handed out.

Well worth seeing

By Kevin B |

Our son was looking for fun places to go in Denver and this came up. We spent 5 hours touring the museum and had an absolute blast. The dioramas were so well done. I learned so much about Colorado and the world through their interactive set up.
We also really enjoyed the Cambodian exhibit that was in town for a few months.
I would highly recommend. If you go on a weekend, arrive early as parking fills up quick.
Also, the place is way bigger than you think when seeing online. Plan accordingly if you wish to see it all.

Great afternoon!

By lisfae |

We had a great afternoon here with kids. They enjoyed the variety. Volunteers were great!! Four floors of exhibits with great variety. Lunch was pricy but ok. We had two toddlers and they were entertained for three hours! Adults enjoyed it also. If you have a Denver library card you can score free tickets

Great!

By Cassie |

Got in at a discounted rate but would have gladly paid full price. This place was gigantic and had a lot to do! Lots to explore! We would definitely go back if we were in the area!

Fun afternoon with the family

By Sillieguze |

We visited the museum with our 11 and 14 year old kids. We all enjoyed the museum. My kids especially liked the space exhibit. We purchased the City Pass because we were planning on visiting other attractions in Denver as well. This helped save us some money. The one downside was that there were a lot of summer camp field trip groups there. While some of the groups were well-behaved, some of the groups were running around and made it difficult to see all of the exhibits. Overall we enjoyed our time at the museum.

Great Temporary and Permanent Exhibits

By GonzoDon |

I'm a Denver resident and long-time supporter of the DMNS. It's definitely one of Denver's greatest assets. It has brought to town stellar traveling exhibits such as the Pharaohs of Egypt, the Aztec Empire, the Dead Sea Scrolls, and items that were recovered from the sea floor from the sinking of the Titanic.

Of course, the museum's special exhibits change all the time. Among the *permanent* exhibits I enjoy: a phenomenal gem and mineral collection (including some amazing Colorado gold nuggets); a fascinating collection of mammal fossils found at Corral Bluffs near Colorado Springs documenting the rapid evolution of mammals in the first million years following the mass dinosaur die-off 66 million years ago; and a good 'Prehistoric Journey' through the history of life on our planet (if a billion years of species evolution interests you).

Also, this museum has lots of good reconstructed dinosaur skeletons -- many from Colorado. Several exhibits are geared toward kids, but I can't speak to those, having no small children of my own.

The DMNS also has a pretty decent cafeteria food selection, for a museum. So: take a cafeteria break midway through your visit to recharge and refresh! Allow yourself plenty of time.

Museum a full day of fun for grand parents and grand children

By bille848 |

It definitely had value to match the cost. Our grandchild had at least as much fun as we did. There were interactive and other activities that easily filled our day

Family fun visit to the museum!

By foote410 |

The museum is a nice little change of pace for Denver and is extremely well put together. Very interactive for children of young ages but there were many older kids and adults having just as much fun. They have numerous different areas including birds, North America, health, gems and rocks, Egypt, and more. They also have a gift shop, coffee shop, and a small cafeteria. We really enjoyed our visit to the museum and would recommend for any family visiting the area.

My favorite Denver museum since I was a little kid

By Julie |

While I still sometimes call this the "Denver Museum of Natural History" (old habit from the 90's) the "Denver Museum of Nature & Science" is my favorite museum in Denver. Each time we go, I see/discover something new. The special exhibits are always spectacular, one of my favorites was the Viking Exhibit a couple years ago. Three floors packed full of information for kids (and adults) to discover. So pleased to have such a great museum in Denver and look forward to taking my kids here over the years.

New Cambodia Exhibit

By Rachel |

The best sections of this museum are on the third floor. I was hoping for a bit more lively activity but most of the content is explored through dioramas. These are well done and educational, but can get a bit long and are dated.

The new exhibit in Feb 2025, "Angkor: The Lost Empire of Cambodia," is excellent. I know next to nothing about Cambodia or its past empires. The recreations of former temples are incredibly detailed. The interactive maps show former buildings overlaid with present-day maps to give you an idea of what you'd see if you traveled there now versus thousands of years ago.

Great museum

By Dani |

Great museum! The exhibits are big and full of stuff to look at. Interactive portions as well. The Explore Colorado exhibit was really cool, especially as someone not from Colorado.

One downside was the screaming school groups running around with little supervision. Go in the morning if you go on a weekday during the school year.

Da Vinci Exhibition

By Cathy P |

This was recommended to us by a local and it didn't disappoint. It was wonderful to see all those drawings of Da Vinci's come to life and as some of them were hands-on exhibits that was even better. It is something that all ages can enjoy. The section on the Mona Lisa was really good too. If possible, I would visit on a weekday as we did. If you have time in the next few weeks, I would say you HAVE to go to this.

Trippy place to spend the day!

By TimEd |

Must see if at all interested in science and nature! We went to Space Odyssey super cool. The whole place was cool. Nobody seemed to notice we were tripping on shrooms and the staff was very good and people seemed to keep social distance and of course everyone had mask on.

Leonardo Di Vinci

By Laurita J |

We went to this museum specifically for the Di Vinci exhibit but thoroughly enjoyed two Imaxx films and many other exhibits including dinosaurs! I bought an annual pass to go back again! This is a great museum!

Great museum for families

By Sheri Robin |

Both my pre-teen and teenage really enjoyed themselves at the museum. There was plenty of hands on activities to keep them interested and active. They both really enjoyed the Pixar exhibit, I also found it to be very interesting.

Cool natural history museum

By phvi2617 |

This is a very nice and fairly extensive natural history museum. I didn't have a ton of time, so I took in the wildlife dioramas, Space Odyssey gallery, and Prehistoric Journey exhibit, which offers a good overview of the evolution of life on earth.

I also took in the black holes film in the planetarium as well as the temporary rainforest exhibit, which featured a number of cool animals. The museum is located in City Park which is worth a visit itself. Parking is free and admission is reasonable.

An all day trip

By Saif H |

Three floors of amazing information. Entertainment for all ages. You get a small discount if you purchase the tickets on line. Took us about six hours to see all the exhibits. We got dinosaurs bucks that can be used to purchase snacks. (I am not sure if it was a holiday special or a regular part of the ticket). The exhibits are very well done. There is a terrace on the fourth floor. It's a little tricky to get there but ask a staff for directions if you need to. It was an amazing view of the city and the sunset. Totally worth the $20 entry fee.

Take your money and can't park.

By J G |

They take your money and there is no parking available so you can't get in anyway.

I wouldn't bother visiting this establishment. There are much better options.

Educational!

By Morgan B |

Had a great visit at the museum, spent about 2 1/2 hours walking through the exhibits and could have been there longer if we had visited the IMAX or special exhibits. The museum is located in the City Park which was beautiful.

Came for the special exhibit

By Bee80204 |

It’s a nice place to visit and we have good memories here. But it doesn’t hold his interest as much anymore now that he’s older. The visiting exhibits bring us back. This time it was the Art of Brick exhibit. The Lego sculptures are amazing. His vision is incredible. The number of bricks used is mind boggling. The health exhibit is fun because it’s interactive. Keeps the kids entertained. I like looking at the gems room. Pretty jewels and minerals. The creatures of Colorado and the mummies from the past. We saw some groups of children visiting. And they had a dumb friends league event that day. We were hungry after the Art of the Brick exhibit and was looking for a place to eat at. That’s when we saw that the museum cafe was open for dine in. Social distancing is enforced and they assign you tables to ensure people keep apart. You can order hot meals or they have a ready to eat selection of fruit, salads, sandwiches and treats. They offer hand sanitizer as you enter the food prep area and napkins and utensils come in packages. You pay and take your food on trays to your tables. It was a fun time and the timed entries and Covid made the museum less crowded.

Always an amazing experience!

By Gianna |

The Denver Museum of Nature and Science is always a new and amazing experience! They always have new and intriguing exhibits. The kids love it and it's great for adults too! Even the food is better than you would expect. The IMAX films are a must as well! I definitely recommend visiting!

Capitalizing on COVID to Gouge Patrons

By Charlotte R |

All I wanted to do today was watch the movie Serengeti, not tour the museum. Charging $20 for museum admission on top of the price for the movie, approximately $30 total, was too costly. The DMNS is gouging people. I will not return to the museum again until they stop charging patrons for museum admission on top of the price of a movie ticket.

Avoid Magical Winter Nights - Not worth the extra admission price

By Cynthia S |

This review applies ONLY to their Magical Winter Nights experience (which is separate from general museum entrance, and costs about $25). This was very disappointing for my family and me. The decorations, as we moved through the short segment of rooms, were underwhelming. We tried to figure out the point of this "holiday experience" and decided the museum is trying to host a pop-up club scene (including four cash bars). Do not take your kids to this event, it will disappoint and bore them.

Exhibits are fun

By Kristi |

The Pixar exhibit was a blast. There is so much to do at the museum. There is something for everyone to see and do

Great educational place.

By selene |

My son loves visiting the museum. He loves going to the IMAX and watching movies on the great screen. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. They will teach you everything they know. Exebition are always great

Nice Museum, But Parking.....

By Jennette R |

Nice Museum. This was our second visit and we enjoyed the Pixar exhibit. Come early, as we drove around for about 45 mins trying to find a parking spot and fighting folks to get one. Although, not as big as the other museums with science and nature, still a nice visit. Not too costly, unless you do add ons. After 2 times, I dont think we will be back.

Always worth a visit

By messier27 |

I go to the museum once or twice a month. A wonderful gem and mineral display. Fantastic prehistoric display. A small but nice permanent Egyptology displays great selection of animals in local setting dioramas. The restaurant is ok and not too overpriced.

The minor thing that bothers me more than it should are the souvenir bottles for sale in the cafeteria. With the purchase you can get free refills at the fountain drink station... but the bottle doesn't fit under the fountain drink station. It's also metal and not insulated and is uncomfortable to hold with ice. And the lip is thin, almost sharp metal

Go to the museum, just don't get the bottles

Family visit

By H N |

Museum is very big. Wish we had more time for the kids to play/explore in the kids' area. Would definitely recommend for the children.

Davinci

By donnaibbott |

Was a large exhibition, not for toddlers but older kids were having a good time. We learned lots. Went through most of the rest of the museum (had to throw us out cuz they closed at 5.) We had a good time and enjoyed all of the museum. There are lots of clean bathrooms. Free parking is a plus, too!

Large museum

By Ziggymar6 |

We went mainly for the DaVinci exhibit and it was great. They had a lot of replicas made from his designs. My favorite part of his work are the anatomy drawings which they had and they also had a cadaver arm that was preserved so you could see it for yourself. The last room focused on the Mona Lisa which I didn’t care for. I just don’t get why that portrait is so popular. The rest of the museum was also fun. There was a senses exhibit that has different areas focusing on each of the senses. There was also a health exhibit that was neat. You got a card to put in the machines and then you did various tests and at the end you got a printout with some health information.

Planes Almost Sitting on Top of You

By Marc P |

Good place for kids as long as they aren't tired, bored or world-weary from playing electronic games.

Easy to get to, and Da Vinci is worth it!

By barbara h |

Don't miss this exhibit! So inspiring to see the work of this master. And, do not skip the exhibit of the mineral carvings - hidden gem. They reminded me of the work of Faberge: selection of subjects, choice of materials, and the craft of carving.

And a word about travel: if you are staying in the downtown area, take the bus to get here. Really easy trip, and at least two bus lines will get you here (#32 and #20).

Great Museum! Fun for the whole family

By WrldTraveler1789 |

We love going to museums. This was really one of the better ones we have been to. The museum is 3 stories tall and covers a very large area. There is something for everyone including fun interactive exhibits for young and old. Personally I loved the dinosaur exhibit the best - it was very thorough and showed species I have not seen in other museums. The rock and mineral section was also very interesting - of course Colorado has a lot to offer in that respect. A must see while in Denver

Our visit was primarily focused on the Leonardo DiVinci exhibit

By David & Connie H |

Based on the drawings, writings, and artistry of the 15th century genius, large scale models of his inventions are on display. Visitors can marvel at his creations that are astonishing accomplishments of mechanical engineering, many of which are still in use today. Amazingly, besides his talents for invention, DiVinci was also the creator of the Mona Lisa and the Last Supper. Explanation of his artistry and on restoration efforts are also a large part of the exhibit. This is a "must see" for anyone traveling to the Denver area.

Great place!

By RTrips7 |

Well organized. Awesome exhibits. Great IMAX. Parking is sometimes a challenge but there is usually space underground.

A poor example of a museum

By Sharon M |

I went to the museum today for the first time in a long time. I just want to say that it was really not that interesting at all. I swear it is the same as when I went to this museum when I was a kid. If you go, you can get through it in an hour easily.

Great Science Museum

By ajnavy04 |

This museum has a variety of great science and nature, as well as a few historic and cultural, exhibits. Probably not worth visiting if you're only in town for a few days, go to the mountains instead. If you've got more time in Denver, then this is a good spot to spend a few hours.

Something for everyone

By ron S |

Colorado and this museum was luck enough to be the first with the Mars Insight lander. Besides this wonderful exhibit. The Space Odyssey area was stuffed full of cool space stuff and wonderful Volunteers to help explain it. This was one of my Grandsons reasons to want to go.. As it turned out all three of them loved it. We also went and saw the Dinosaurs where what the boys had learned in school was but on display for their grandparents. The Colorado Wildlife and the native American Exhibits just made this a special educational day. We wrapped it up with an IMAX show and the stop in the Gift Shop

Great Museum for Kids!

By Anna H |

Took my 6 year old daughter here in July of 2021. It was a great way to start off our family trip to Denver. In general, this museum is well layed out and signage was excellent. My daughters favorite bit was the gemstone exhibit. Many of the exhibits were interactive which was fun. We attended the 3D Movie - "The Great Barrier Reef". This feature was a little extra on top of admission, maybe $7 per person, but was well worth it. Kept my 6 year old's attention for the entire time. She learned a lot by watching it. At the time of our visit, they had a temporary exhibit called "Numbers in Nature", also at an extra cost, but once again well worth it. We had so much fun in the Mirror Maze! Gift shop was massive and she bought some gemstones to add to her growing collection. All in all, a great museum!!!

I would like to have such a jewel in Germany

By Elke B |

I was adviced, where I needed it, had also my time to have a rest. This museum unites sciency, fascination, adventure and entertainment.

Leonardo da Vinci Exhibit

By kompi56 |

We visited the Leonardo da Vinci exhibit on a Friday morning. The museum was so crowded with young children that it was difficult to enjoy it.

Great Experience

By Brandon |

This museum was way bigger than we were expecting before showing up. We didn't even get to see all of it in the 3+ hours we were there. They have an awesome display of animals from all over the world. They also have a really sweet lego exhibit that you have to check out.

Good mix of hands on activity and local history

By John R |

First - so glad this museum is part of ASTC reciprocal program. Helped our family save some money on vacation. We enjoyed the hands on activities and for the most part everything worked which we don't always see in similar types of museums across the country. Good balance of activities for kids along with the more historical animal dioramas. Opening early on weekend was also a plus (9am) for our family on vacation looking to have a full day of fun.

AWESOME !!!!

By Dwayne A |

The things one can learn here is just awesome!!! This place was huge with so many things to do for all ages.

All day fun with the kids!

By Cristyle B |

You can spend the whole day at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science with the kids and still not feel like you've visited and experienced everything they have to offer.

Great museum for all ages!

By Erin J |

An amazing museum with many different exhibits to view. Lots of hands on activities to go along with the educational information in the displays. My boys are 15, 17, and 20 and they loved it, especially the temporary Leonardo Da Vinci exhibit. Delicious food in the T-rex cafe. Spent four hours there and could have stayed a couple more hours but we were limited on time in our schedule so we made sure we saw what we wanted. We visited on a Saturday in August and, although it was busy, it was not over crowded.

Don't Miss the Local Bird Dioramas

By Roy C |

Wonderful natural history collection, highlights of which, for me at least, were the bird and animal dioramas of local species as well as the figurines made from minerals by the Russian artist Vasily Konovalenko. One could take a photo and actually pass it off as an actual picture taken in the wild. And Konovalenko's work is simply wonderful to look at.

Having been to Egypt a few years ago, we found the Egyptian collection a bit boring, but still take a look at it. There also is a large dinosaur collection, but I was disappointed to read most were casts taken from fossils in other museums.

Leonardo Da Vinci Exhibition

By Pat |

Phenomenal exhibit and eye opening experience. It's hard to grasp how many things Leonardo Da Vinci invented/created. He had a vision for the future not understood by the people & culture of his era.

The science behind Pixar

By DynamiteDude |

If you haven’t heard the Denver Museum of Nature and Science is opening a new attraction, the Science behind Pixar. There are places for kids to play around and even an athletic attraction.

So many things to see

By Angie H |

This was a great visit for our family with a large age range. The Discover Area for the little ones was amazing!

History

By awildakaneta |

The museum requires a lot of walking, so be sure to wear shoes that are comfortable. We walked for three hours total, but we did some parts of it really quickly. There was a great deal to take in visually. I do believe that they have an excessive number of animal displays; they could definitely put some of that space to better use by displaying a wider variety of displays. The Space Odyssey exhibit was entertaining; nevertheless, I was disappointed that additional fees were required to experience the virtual reality component of the exhibit. This was the first time any of us had dealt with times tickets. In point of fact, everything ran really smoothly. The ticket lady simply scanned the we codes directly off my mobile phone, and immediately after that, we were allowed entry. It seems like there were a lot of people waiting to get in when we were leaving, so I would advise getting there as early in the morning as possible.

Dino wonders

By ivorbigun2013 |

Fabulous museum. Only had 1/2 a day but well worth the time and entrance fee. Only really toured the Dino exhibits but they are superb. The staff were wonderful and just talking to them was a joy. What lovely people. Will definitely return if the opportunity presents itself.

A place to visit more than once!

By efromflint73 |

We thought ahead and bought the Denver city pass and it allowed us to visit the Museum and the aquarium. So, if you’re ever in Denver, look at purchasing the city pass so that you can see and do more things around Denver and for discount. When it comes to the museum, it was cool! I particularly liked the Native American exhibit, the dinosaur exhibit, and the space exhibit. I think the Walton kids liked the fact that everything in the museum is hands on. We spent about 3-4 hours there and still felt like there was still more to do. We later discovered City Park was right behind the museum and that added another dimension left to be explored.

Excellent Museum

By Mike W |

We read some good things about this place and decided to visit. We were blown away by how well the exhibits are laid out. Yes, the museum is designed with a "kid vibe", but we are in our fifties and really enjoyed it. Many of the exhibits are interactive, and they are very informative. The place is HUGE, so it isn't overcrowded in the different exhibit halls. We went through the entire museum in about two hours, which was perfect for our day. If you go, be sure to go around to the park area behind the museum, where the views of the mountains are beautiful.

Great place to spend your day

By Gaurav126in |

This was an amazing one for many reasons. One, the sections were good, well distributed and we even had an Egyptian Artifacts section. Two, the two shows (Additional) that I saw were amazing namely Cities of Future and Destination SOlar System. They are recommended. Three, the museum shop was good and had very good options. Four, they had a very nice food court to enjoy. Five, they had a workshop on for "how do they create replica of real artifacts" and preserve them forever. I could go on and on but its worth visiting. You would need >3 hours to cover all of it and in some cases >5 hours if you want to see everything in detail. Going early in the morning is recommended so you can cover as much before the school tours come in. Tickets are available online and there was some discount for off peak hours which is a bonus. Overall, Highly recommended.

Nice exhibits!

By CalifSue |

So much to see and explore in the museum. Nice exhibits and a fun place for all ages. Don't miss Discovery Zone with young children.

5/5

By Woodridge |

Great price! I would definitely recommend to those with small family members. Many unimaginable areas there & the staff is absolutely amazing.

Pixar !

By stevezerbe |

Went to the museum again today and visited the Pixar exhibit. Very well put together with lots of hands on for humans of all ages. Many stations for folks to stop and try out different aspects of the Pixar process.

Fun experience

By 490shanaj |

This museum is a lot of walking, so make sure you wear comfy shoes. We walked for 3 hours and kind of rushed parts of it. There was a lot to look at. I do think they have too many animal exhibits, they could probably use some of that space for a bigger variety of exhibits. The Space Odyssey exhibit was fun, I just wish it hadn't cost extra to do the virtual reality part. This was our first experience with times tickets. It actually worked really smooth. The ticket lady just scanned the we codes right off my cell phone and we got in right away. I would recommend going early in the morning, because when we left there were a lot of people waiting to get in.

Spectacular visit

By Melissa G |

Our family spent the majority of a day here and we easily could have spent hours more to see everything. The Leonardo Davinci exhibit was interactive and well worth the extra money. All of our family learned so much during our visit!

Enjoyed all 4 floors

By HomeSweetOmaha |

We spent hours enjoying all 4 floors of the museum. Looking forward to our next visit to see the Monet exhibit.

Same as Field museum in Chicago

By Magnolia6130 |

For the amount of money I paid for three of us to see museum and “Sue” I feel like it should have been more. While the dioramas were interesting you didn’t learn much about the animals inside each one.

fun museum

By interviewtraveler |

The museum has some engaging science and history exhibits. We were there about 2 hours and only scratched the surface. My preschooler most enjoyed the animal displays and the health section. This museum has reciprocity with other science museums in the ASTC network.

nice visit

By Texas2020 |

This is a very nicely laid out museum. I enjoyed the Imax movie, and a special exhibit on Stonehenge. The other exhibits are nicely done, many animal dioramas, a nice American Indian exhibit. Definitely a place to go with kids.

Lots to see!

By Lea A |

Lots of interesting things to see. Worth the value assuming you are interested in this sort of stuff. There were several exhibits/learning stations that were not working which was a bummer, but it was still interesting nonetheless. We spent 3+ hours there and saw most of what there was to see in the general exhibits.

Fantastic museum

By Sandy S |

Plan to spend the day at this wonderful place. We saw the Leonardo exhibit, Volcano Imax movie, special exhibit about the five senses, and more. Fun for the whole family.

Hands on and fun museum!

By AngelineRae |

My nine year old son and I really had fun at this museum. The Planetarium show was hilarious and the imax show on volcanoes was amazing. There was tons to look at, stuff kids can touch, and buttons to push. I was a little annoyed because one whole section was “closed for cleaning” along with 2 exhibits being closed. I think it’s an expensive museum to not have everything available. They do offer a Veteran discount ($3 off). Overall we were able to spend over 6 hours here, so it’s definitely worth checking out!

First time every seeing dinosaurs!

By 865Travis |

What a great experience! We were on Saturday June 27th, during The Brick exhibit, and we still did not experience any lines or congestion.

Fantastic, interactive museum

By dustythoughts |

This fantastic museum offers a wide range of exhibits and hands-on exhibits. I loved wandering through the anthropology collections (items from various African, Asian, Pacific, and American cultures), as well as various human anatomy specimens and an exhibit on modern human DNA (which is infrequent in natural history museums). They also have a beautiful planetarium with various shows that make astronomy both accessible and awe-inspiring. They also guide field trip visits for people of all ages (not just for young kids). All of the staff members were knowledgeable about the museum's exhibits and were friendly. The museum's pretty big, so you could spend a day here and still miss things that would require another visit.

Really fun for kids and adults

By rldewolf |

We had four adults and five kids age 2-8 and they all had a great time. The museum is very interactive and the eating options are fantastic. The kids loved the health section where they got a little print out at the end. Definitely worth the time!!!

Such a great way to learn and spend the day!

By JW traveler |

The Denver Museum of Nature and Science Museum is absolutely great for all ages. The grandchildren loved going here. It is educational and fun at the same time. I love everything about it. One time we went over to the IMAX after and what a great day. You could not go wrong going here!

Enjoyed the visit

By Denise M |

My family of 4; 2 kids ages 5 and 4 liked the museum very much. They saw many type of taxidermy animals. I mean a lot. I personally enjoyed it the mummy exhibit and the kids also loved the dinosaur fossils.

Excellent museum...Dinosaurs!

By Pete L |

On our family vacation to Denver we were fortunate enough to visit this incredible museum. My kids loved the dinosaurs, mummies, and space exhibits. My favorite was the sky deck overlooking downtown...and the IMAX show! Must visit!

Great!!

By Ross B |

We went to see the Pixar exhibit! One could easily spend 3-5 hours there and an entire day exploring the rest of the museum!

Screaming Children and Rude Adults

By sunshine1924 |

Unfortunately our visit was ruined by all the wild, screaming children running around. The adults were barely better as they were talking loudly walking around the exhibits. I just don't understand why parents don't discipline their children and explain how they should behave when visiting a museum. The dinosaur and mummy exhibits were interesting. We watched the IMAX film "Turtle Odyssey", but instead of uplifting, it was downright depressing. (Sea turtles are full of plastic and they are endangered, mostly because of humans). I can't imagine that I would want to return to see any other exhibits.

Something for everyone

By Celizabeth3 |

Wear your walking shoes!
There’s always a new and interesting exhibit, but If it’s not your thing the standard exhibits do not disappoint. Take your time, eat lunch there, and try to see everything. Such a well-rounded museum.
You will not park close. Not gonna happen. And you will do a ton of walking while there, so dress comfortably.

It's worth the time!

By Danny Rust |

This is the kind of place where you wander in and end up staying for hours. The dinosaur skeletons grab you first, and the planetarium and rotating exhibits make it even more fascinating!

museum fun time!!

By toytoy1986 |

this is a fun place to goes as a family. got to learn about different animal and natural minerals that colorado have. fun interacted things in the museum for the kids to do. definitely bring the family you will have a good time

Great addition to any Denver trip

By M and M |

a little pricey with all the extra exhibits/movies but a nice place to visit and explore while in Denver

A Days’ Worth [9a-5p]

By GirlyJ |

We suggest walking around the facility before or after your visit if you are able and have time.
We paid general admission for 2 adults $19.95Adult (be aware that there are several discounts that are not really advertised, like military which one of us could have used; You also can save $1 by booking online, among others like SCFD, CityPASS, College, SNAP!)
Gems & Minerals Exhibition [free] was wonderfully beautiful and spent a lot of time in here.
Egyptian Mummies Exhibition [free] was eerily educational.
Prehistoric Journey Exhibition [free] was the best, who doesn't like a good dinosaur?! If you only have time for one, this should be it!
T-Rex Cafe (maybe it was the T-Rex Grab & Go I don't know?) - pretzel and cheese was not the best but at least they had one pretzel that wasn't salt covered! Unsure of selection of food other than that and pizza, (we were trying to get something before Planetarium show).
We chose to bypass the child filled Space Odyssey[free] as much as we could having to enter the Planetarium through here. We saw Black Holes [$5Adult] - was extremely educational and just awesome, but the acting was a bit distracting as an adult wanting to sit back and disappear into the sky. (it was "cool" feeling part of the show at the end)

Did Not Visit:
Exhibitions: The Science Behind PIXAR[$10Adult]; Extreme Sports[free]; VR Arcade[$10]; North American Indian Cultures[free]; Konovalendo[free]; Wildlife Halls (which didn't appeared to have changed any since the 90's)[free]; El Alebrije[free]; Discovery Zone[free]; Expedition Health[free]

IMAX($7Adult/$6Youth&Senior): Turtle Odyssey was the only option during my time of visit (also had Apollo 11; Superpower Dogs; Lion King; Reel Rock)

PARKING: There is close handicap and HOV(2+) parking by front doors; do not know about the garage.
BATHROOMS were plentiful and surprisingly clean during my visit.
GIFT SHOP was priced too high for me to have even thought about buying something!

Father Daughter Visit

By Greg1al |

Trip with my adult daughter - stayed almost 3 hours - presentations are all well done.
The Dinosaurs were definitely our favorite.

marvelous museum, truly fantastic

By Chris-From-MD |

I went to see the many beautiful fossils but I was surprised and delighted by the scientific section in general with its multiple displays with fantastic docents, all professionals from the field of specialty covered in the exhibits; the fabric of the universe with protons flying through it and you, the infrared lights renditions on computer screen of our human bodies, the labyrinth display about color and perspective theories, and so many other displays. I went to the museum for its fossils but I got out with much more. This is a truly fantastic place. Congratulations to the curators for all the wonderful displays.

Denver Darling

By collen343 |

A very nice BIG museum with a lot to see. We went to see the Leonardo DaVinci exhibit...which we enjoyed then caught the dinosaur and Egyptian exhibit. It was all great and educational.

Great to go over and over again

By Buga B |

I visited several times, with temporary exhibitions. I loved the bioluminiscence one very much. But the whole museum is well organized, with interesting and informational texts. Museum shop is also great place to visit, I could leave my yearly salary there, in books and toys 😁

Prehistoric Journey

By sperez730 |

My mom and I popped in here on a whim a couple of hours before closing on a weekday while visiting Denver. The museum had so much to see and unfortunately without proper planning we did not get to view it all. However, we picked the areas that most interested us and were not disappointed. The Prehistoric Journey exhibit was very interesting with lots to see.

Top notch museum

By BDAD68 |

Coming from Chicagoland we can be a bit snobbish when it comes to museums and such. But gotta say while it may not be as big as the Field Museum of Chicago or the Museum of Science and Industry also in Chicago it really is a high quality museum. I particularly liked the gems and mining area and Native American stuff. Very nice displays.

A good way to spend the afternoon with the girls.

By zachary p |

Very impressed with this science Museum. We saw the film on Apollo 11 and it was very good. An IMAX experience. There is a good exhibit on the animals indigenous to the south west. There is also a good exhibit on the functions of the human body.

Amazing facility

By danao688 |

We are members here and love the variety and it appeals to all age levels. The kids also attend the summer camp which they really like as well. The rock and mineral exhibit is one of our favorites as well as the dinosaurs.

Angkor Civilization Exhibit

By MikeB1952 |

Whew, what a place. We were tired when we left at closing time (almost had to shoo us out). We were there primarily to see their Angkor exhibit. We've been to a number of previous exhibits and have always been impressed at the layout, information and real exhibits. This was no different. We began with the IMAX show on Angkor. Great idea. It was quite good and provided a good foundation for the exhibit. The exhibit was also quite good. But as our adult son indicated, it felt a bit disjointed not telling a cohesive story. But still impressive.

With a bit of extra time we toured their Space exhibits. Excellent with a lot of interactive exhibits. We also went through their wildlife dioramas. Though quite old, they are still wonderful.

We had a bite to eat in their little atrium cafe. Nothing special, but was nice to be able to eat there.

All-in-all, it was a wonderful visit. Looking forward to the next one.

Not for adults only

By Robin R |

Nice museum but it is mostly for children. Exhibits are mostly interactive and not a great museum for adults only. Dinosaur exhibit was probably the best but was quite small

It was ok

By Diana Diaz |

It was nice to spend the day inside and out of the cold. Had a bunch of things to see. But too many kids running around. The movie at the IMAX was cool.

Must see

By Sherry L |

My boys loved this museum and all of the exhibits. So interesting to see dioramas and fossils. I would definitely recommend.

Interesting, well kept and worth a visit

By The Art of Living |

We visited Denver museum in October and we found it very interesting. Loved the natural gems, the pre historic animals and all those diorama settings with the animals in (frozen) action, which were fabulous, plus the Egyptians with MRI scans of the mummies.
We were delighted to be offered a tour of the vast private entomological collection by Dr Krell, the Senior Curator of Entomology at the Department of Zoology.
We admired of range of tiny to enormous insects including some beautiful butterflies we had never seen before.
It is such a shame that only a tiny fraction of this collection is displayed in the Museum. Insects, beetles etc are massively important for the echo system and without them the world could not survive.
Please, whoever is in charge, give the Entomology collection a bigger, interactive space to inspire the future generations to learn about insects, arachnids, beetles and their important role on the Earth.
Overall, we loved all the collections. Perhaps the one that was least interactive was the Space Lab.
The food area was nicely equipped and had plenty to satisfy all the palates.
Take your time to visit the whole place, it is worth it!

Great place to have a membership and visit frequently

By Jane A |

I'm a member and take my grandkids every week or so. A) There are ALWAYS, never fail, things that don't work. This last time, half the exhibits in the Health Exhibition malfunctioned. B) I guess it's great that school children get a chance to visit, but we always get there first thing to be done by 10am or so. On any given day, 500 or more kids will descend in hordes by then, pretty much ruining the experience for everyone else. C) DO NOT eat there! The offerings are expensive and really poor quality, the food service staff very unfriendly, and it's packed by lunch time. Either pack a snack or go to McD's for a final treat for the kids.

Perfect family outing

By Megan A |

Wow, I had no idea this place would be so huge! My 8 year old loves dinosaurs so this was a must. We had City Pass which saved us some money too. If you have a Dino or animal loving kid, then this is the place to go! It was very busy and was even hard to find a parking space (parking is free which was nice). We were here for over 4 hours! We did pay extra for the traveling Egypt exhibit was I spent an hour in alone. It was excellent!

Sort of Lame...

By RichmondReviewer_13 |

We love science museums and try to visit new museums whenever we go to new cities. We really wanted to like this one, but we found their exhibits fell into one of four categories: (1) They were not interactive so pretty tired and boring (2) They were interactive but broken (3) There was an additional charge over and above the price of admission to see them (4) There was a docent/volunteer by a display that did not initiate conversation which made it awkward to approach that display. We did not pay the extra money to see the Leonardo daVinci exhibit (which we thought would be interesting), virtual reality game or IMAX movie.

Super fun free day

By Michelle R |

If you haven gone yet then what are you waiting for? They have multiple free days thruout the year and is great to learn about the different animals and gems found here and in north America.

Spectacular museum!

By Donna E |

Bought a membership, as this museum has a relationship with others around the country. Also bought tickets to one of the planetarium shows...enjoyed the many exhibits (didn't get to all of them - glad we can return on our membership!), planetarium show, and pizza at the cafe (it was very good! Like pizzeria slices!). Nice gift shop, too. Looking forward to our next visit!

Full of Learning and Adventure

By TheAboutExperience |

Our family loved the location of this museum which was in the city park and so close to the Denver Zoo too. There was quite a few exhibits showing and the IMAX theatre was great. We actually ran out of time while visiting so we were not able to see all of the exhibits, but trust me there are quite a few. This is a great place to spend an entire day at reading and learning about all of the exhibits. This is well worth a trip, with or without children.

Fantastic special programs

By Bob R |

Have attended both their Leonardo DaVinci and "The Science Behind Pixar" exhibits. Extremely well done. There is so much more here year round that we want to come back every week to try to absorb it all. Anyone living in Denver should check this out, reasonable prices for priceless experiences and education!

Excellent Natural History Museum in Colorado

By hilo88 |

a. The Denver Museum of Nature and Science is located in City Park and has its own free parking structure. We had to catch an elevator up to the museum and my son was pleasantly surprised by 2 large dinosaur statues and a mastodon statue. He thought they were the coolest things so that was a great start to the museum trip.

b. The museum itself is large, but not intimidatingly so. We did not end up doing the whole museum, but we focused on the things that would interest my son the most. We did the animal exhibits, the fossil exhibit, the bug one on the main floor, and the Egypt/mummy. All of them were very well done.

c. There are A LOT of animal dioramas and my son was SO into them. He liked looking at the signs and trying to find all the animals that were listed in the displayed. It was really fun to see his excitement. That I recall (this was in early July), there were dioramas from Africa, North America (and Colorado specifically), Oceania, Australia, and from the oceans. It was cool to see how realistic the environments were made to look. For example, the lighting they used for the manatee one made it look like you were really under water. Very cool.

d. It was really small, but there was a really neat display about what the inside of an escalator looks like and how it works. Never thought about it before, but it was neat to see and learn about. I appreciated those little learning opportunities.

e. The dining area was actually pretty good. I was surprised by the options. As expected, it is museum pricing, but the selections were good.

f. While perfectly fine, the gift shop was museum pricing and didn’t seem to have a whole lot of anything you couldn’t get elsewhere and for cheaper.

g. We had a great time at this museum. It was my son’s favorite thing we did in Denver on our 6 day trip and as an adult, I highly recommend it to if you are into natural history. If we are ever in Denver again we will 100% return.

Beautiful and Informative

By Emily Thomas |

My husband and I stopped here and spent about 2 hours exploring. This would be a great place for anyone and family of all ages. There are many exhibits available. Our favorite was the dinosaur exhibit. Great place to learn and explore. Cost per person was reasonable for admission. We would visit again.

Great museum -- if you haven't been to other metro-area science museums

By JenHen2003 |

Perhaps we are spoiled by the Perot Museum in Dallas, but after hearing great things about the Denver Museum, I was a bit disappointed by this museum. Perhaps it's a building design issue. The Perot exhibit halls have high ceilings and feel open and airy, plus you ride the one escalator up, and then make your way back down through the floors -- it's well-thought-out design makes it difficult to miss a section. Not so in the Denver Museum. Exhibit Halls are quite compartmentalized, and you have to double back to get to some of them and really make an effort. (The excellent Native American exhibit area comes to mind -- we had to hunt to find it.) The large dinosaur skeletons seem almost crammed in the small space -- they deserve a bigger hall.

That said, there is some great stuff here. My family really enjoyed the informative Egyptian mummy exhibit -- not just looking at mummies, but interacting with the scans of what's inside was really unique and neat. Also really liked the aforementioned Native American cultures exhibit, something that the Perot does not have. The late hours on Friday night made it possible to pack this museum into our itinerary, and I'm glad we did.

In sum, this is a great museum for travelers who do not have access to their own local nature and science museum. If you do have access to one, there are some unique exhibits here if you have the time.

Denver has a world class Museum

By RWdenver98 |

The DMNS is a real deal museum. whether you want to see dinosaurs or birds or see the geographic history of Colorado, it's there. Pay attention to the special shows.

Denver Museum of Nature & Science

By jkskel |

When my children were young we were members and went quite often. Now I have a granddaughter and we are now members again. We joined when she was 3 and she loves going to the museum. There is plenty to do for all ages!

Nice location, museum is just average

By DM_1278 |

This is in a nice location in the city park, and the museum has some nice exhibits. A lot of geology and animal related exhibits, however there are no real animals here and it definitely looks it. Good place to spend a couple of hours, but nothing outstanding.

A Denver Must-See!

By Ruth B |

This Denver Museum is so fun and interactive. Great for all ages! It explores everything from minerals and gemstones to the human body to space. They also have quite a few of life-size dioramas of animals from all over the world that look so realistic! Give yourself at least 4 hours at this location. It’s truly a wealth of information! And also don’t miss the 4th story balcony that overlooks the nearby park and the Denver skyline. Really a great experience !

Great family option in Denver

By Minnesota42 |

This place is HUGE! We did the Denver city pass for our 2 adults and 3 children, ages 7, 11, 13 and chose this as one of our 3 places. We spent 2.5 hours and just hit the highlights. There is so much to see and so much to do and so much for hands on. We were not masked, but it would not be a bad idea, also bring hand sanitizer or use what is there. It is easy to get to and parking is free, both a huge plus in a big city. The best part is it opens at 9, so making it your first stop can get you an hour more during the day versus starting at the other museums. The youngest to the oldest child found things that they liked to look at and do.

Good for a few hours

By Chris L |

It was a fun afternoon with some excellent exhibits. I grew up in Chicago and am used to their Museum of Science and Industry, and this pales in comparison. However it was still good, just much smaller and with less variety. Worth seeing once.

Wonderful museum

By BaccusRanch |

I went to the Leonardo da Vinci exhibit which was wonderful. Wish I had had more time as there were numerous other exhibits that I would have liked to see. The museum was very busy and well attended, which is nice to see. I will look forward to returning

You Won't Be Able to Use Your Ticket

By J G |

I would not buy tickets for this museum. They sell you tickets but don't have enough parking for you to actually get to the museum. There is no street parking just a small parking lot that is share with another building. There are much better places to visit in Denver like the Botanic Gardens or the Butterfly Pavilion. Don't waste your money here.

Wedding Review

By Victoria at Lunar Tides Travel LLC |

For Weddings:
Everything we wanted and envisioned for our wedding happened. Molly was wonderful and communicated with us every step of the way. While we had a hiccup with the rehearsal, it went very well beyond that. The lighting, the music, and the dinner were all wonderful. Our guests were stunned that you could have a wedding here and I wouldn't change anything about what we did.

A lot to see in this 3 story museum!

By Debbie D |

This museum is located in City Park which adds to the atmosphere of the place. You can even go to the 3rd floor and an outside terrace to see the view of the park and downtown Denver in the distance. There are many interesting exhibits - all with information explaining the details. Good museum for all ages. Hands-on exhibits for the kids. Take your time so you don't miss the items that might be in a corner, or at the far side of the floor. Lots of (stuffed/taxidermy)animals to view - made me ready to see some live animals! The Denver Zoo is also in City Park - an 8 - 10 minute walk from the museum.

Definitely plan to come back!

By Megan L |

Gorgeous animals displays! They reminded me so much of the AMNH in NYC. The bugs exhibit was cool and gave a different perspective on creepy crawlers. You MUST see a video in the planetarium, such a cool experience.

Wish we had the grand kids with us

By Connector136063 |

Wife and I went through this museum very quickly as we had a tour later that day quite a distance away.
We wish our grand kids were with us.. there were dinosaurs and minerals and other interactive ares. Plus there were docents who were knowledgeable and PATIENT!!
Allow 1/2 a day if you have youngsters who like learning.

A must if you are in Denver

By gisbert matthes |

Very nice, well-structured and informative museum, sensational slide frames installed with great love

Never ending exploration

By May F |

Be prepared to spend a few hours there. Lots to see and learn. There are 3 Floors with different exhibitions. You can also pay additional fees to explore IMAX or planetarium. Great place to go with kids.

Great Family Outing

By R6658BBcarol |

We bought a yearly pass for the family because there is so much to explore. So every time we go, we pick a different area and catch am IMAX movie as well.

Great local insights

By CWParker |

My son and I were in town and had time to kill. We decided to check it out and were not disappointed. We only had time for the basic entry and enjoyed walking through the exhibits. Great local influences in the wildlife and geological history. The dinosaur exhibit was of course interesting too to see what had been found locally. We had a great time.

It'll keep you busy

By FranW17 |

This is a great museum, as evidenced by the crowds. But, not too crowded to enjoy it. There are different sections covering different aspects of Colorado culture, wildlife, and geography. Much of it is interactive, which is especially cool for the youngsters. Don't Miss This Museum!

Awesome museum.

By AndrewFromMadison |

While the animal dioramas are great here, they are very similar in all the other museums of this type. Native themes are great too, but that can be found elsewhere also. But what stands out is Dinosaur exhibit - while present in many museums nowadays, this cannot just be replicated at will - one needs actual bones, skeletons or at the very least good replicas built from the originals. The other gem of this museum - literally - is gems and minerals exhibit. That is just awesome.

A must do while in Colorado

By Isée B |

The museum has so much different exhibits, you can learn all about native Americans history, Colorado and west USA wildlife and minerals/topography.

Family Friendly

By AtlantaRae |

This is a very nice museum, but really suited more for families. My husband and I enjoyed seeing the dinosaur bones, but could have skipped the rest. If you have kids, there are tons of interactive activities to keep them entertained. There are lots and lots of dioramas of stuffed wild animals and birds, and after the first 10 I was bored with them.

Museum of Interest to All Ages

By COTravelers821 |

The special DaVinci exhibit about his scientific and military genius was outstanding. The permanent exhibits are always worth revisiting.

Visit to Denver Museum of Nature and Science.

By Louise A |

This museum was beautiful. My grandson was enthralled with the dinosaurs and he loved the play area. The exhibits we beautiful. They were very informative.

So much fun if you have little kids!

By Williamspartyoftwo |

This place is great if you have little kids. It is amazing and laid out beautifully. Tons to do and it is indoors and clean.

Good for kids

By Shadowshade |

The museum is overall very good and definitely a fun experience. Especially for kids and people who have rather little knowledge about nature and science. But for those that are more advanced in this area, the museum has not much to offer. Personally I wish there’re more information and skeletons about dinosaurs, which only occupy a very small portion of the museum for now. But the museum is still very informative and interesting, definitely worth a visit.
The timed exhibition about orcas is ok but not worth 7 dollars in my opinion.

Lower Your Prices

By Bruce L |

Took two separate trips this summer, and both were new for our grandchildren. It's sad that I only can give it a 3. We have to say we loved all that the museum offers!

If we had done every event - which our grandkids preferred we do - it would have cost each of us around $30-40 dollars. Then we have to stop at the gift shop!

Except the IMAX, (timed tickets were needed) all other events had no lines, few customers, and many volunteers sitting with nothing to do.

Maybe consider a business plan that would lower the costs - especially for what you deem as special events - it may attract more customers?

Great Visit

By KP |

We enjoyed the displays and the interactive parts of the museum. Kids would really like this museum. The displays of the mammals and birds are spectacular. There were a lot of "empty spaces" where I suspect some new things will be coming.

Great museum

By hikeandswim |

It’s a very well done museum, interactive for kids. Everything in Denver is close by no traffic Jams easy drive. The US Midwest is known for dinosaur skeletons, used to be full of Dino’s there, Denver actually at the feet of the rocky mountains and used to be a great lake in dino time Later the Denver / mid-west turned into the hunting ground for 10 Indian tribes and afterwards the scene of the pioneers/ gold rush/ railroad companies/small and later big farmers/ bison skin traders in 1860 that wiped out a mayor part of Indian culture and bison’s.
Museum is huge and is organized in several subjects. Since kids can’t handle the whole day in a museum we made a choice of subjects. A museum lover could spend probably 2 days in the museum we did 2- 3 hours. We went to the dino (huge skeletons with a good history story line) . Dino museum , and interactive medical science section (live testing of yourself). Other 2 we had on the list were Indian heritage and kids discovery, our kids crashed while having a coffee break. Great for all ages.

Love This

By Sandra C |

It has been a long time since the last time I went to a Museum, and this one exceeded my expectations. The shows and attractions were breathtaking. I didn't have the chance to see everything, as it is so big and there are so many attractions, I look forward to going back and spending a full day there in order to see everything.

Such a fun place for families

By CR141 |

For some reason, we struggled for something interesting to do in Denver with kids. It was cold and we were on our way back from skiing, so we had our fill of the outdoors at the time. We have been here twice and we stayed so long with the kids this time, we closed it down. One of our kids favorite things was the really old dioramas and also we could barely get them out of the firefly room.
