This is all part of the new Detroit and it is wonderful to see people enjoying the riverfront. Lots of families enjoying their time.

Lovely walk. Thought there would be more retail shops along the walk. Great view across the water of Canada.

This is worth a trip! It's a lovely park to walk along the river and enjoy the view. Take the People Mover to or from the area.

Wanting to catch one of last of summer days, we chose to take the Riverwalk stroll. Great temperature with police presence. Views at all angles across the river and on the walk kept my camera in hand. Plenty of seating room of different types. You can find places to be alone or surrounded by others. People offer to take your picture to avoid all selfies. It just seemed to be a strong shared love for the beauty of it all! Very enjoyable!

The river walk along the bank of the Detroit river is a showcase of cultural diversity. People from all backgrounds and ethnicity can be seen walking there. There is music, dances, somebody on the skate board, bikers, kids, and many more. Across the river is Canada. Use binoculars and you can see our neighbors. The General Motors building food court is a good option for eating there.

Wife and I decided to hit the RiverFront after having dinner in the D. Was a beautiful evening and it was packed! Seems everyone else had the same idea. Really nice to walk along the water, watch the boats, and take in the Detroit skyline. Lots to do for everyone. Next time we'll take the kids and let them play on the structure, in the sandbox, or in the water fountains.

We were so impressed with the waterfront area of downtown Detroit during a recent
company outing on the Infinity yacht. We walked about 15 minutes from our hotel, the Westin Book Cadillac, to the Port Authority pier and the area was well lit, very clean, safe and had lots of flowers and plants. The view from the water was impressive too, with lots of green space, parks, Aretha Franklin Amphitheater, and many people and families enjoying the evening. We plan to visit again soon and enjoy this beautiful City.

This area was nicely groomed easy to walk and enjoyable. We stayed in a downtown hotel which was being remodeled but it was acceptable. Walking the riverfront was relaxing and beautiful

It’s a nice evening. You want to sit outside and enjoy the waterfront and chat. Then the police roll through closing area at 10pm on a Friday evening. Really? Why? Crime? Well that doesn’t help Detroit’s image. Really, really disappointing trip to Detroit.

We enjoyed the riverfront during the jazz festival. Very safe and fun place to walk around or rent a scooter. Beautiful views of Canada and just a great place to People wAtch and take great photos.

The Detroit river is a pretty river actually, nice view of Canada, a little rundown, nice for a quick view and a breeze.

We were in Detroit for a convention and had an opportunity to walk along the Detroit river. It has really gone through a beautiful transformation.
it was Motor City Muscle weekend so there was a lot of good music and food available along the water and up Woodward avenue.
The walk was full of people, street music and people. There are plenty of resaurants along the walk and easy access to the people mover that connects toother areas of downtown.

The area is clean, accessible and open. It's nice to be near the water and get a wide open vista after the downtown experience.

The path along the riverfront is a great place for taking a walk, running or biking. The view are nice, and it is an excellent place for people watching.

The river looks great from the riverwalk. Lots of families walking around with places to sit and play. Could be just temporary but it had somewhat restricted access, wasn't always easy to get out. Otherwise a fine experience.

Spent an hour walking along the Detroit riverfront in September this year (2019). This area is very nice. The city has done a great job cleaning up along the riverfront. A lot of people out walking and jogging,

I've been taking walks along the Riverwalk at least once a month for more than ten years. It's an excellent way to get some exercise, and take in views. Plenty of chairs, and places to watch ships go by.

While it is broken up, the walkways offer great views of the river, downtown and Canada. I probably walked a bit over a mile and had a great time. In some areas there are two paths, one right at the water and the other 10-20 feet back. Bikes are encouraged to stay on inner path so the walkers don't have to worry about being hit.
In other areas the path is extra wide so you can walk on outside and bikes in the middle.
The views change so don't just a few hundred feet!

It's a beautiful walk. Everyone is chill and there are all kinds of people enjoying it. It never feels unsafe in any way. People are way too paranoid about Detroit. I lived in the suburbs and many of my neighbors did not dare to go into Detroit. I did, and enjoyed all the great things it has to offer. You should not miss out on all four major professional sports being played within a couple blocks of each other in great facilities. Greektown and Mexican Town are wonderful. Los Galanes restaurant is the best Mexican restaurant I have found in the whole country. Bring your kids !

First trip to the riverfront east of the RenCen as the jazz festival was going on. We enjoyed the trip once we found parking and would recommend for folks new to Detroit and seeing Windsor across the river

We went to Detroit to visit Motown History and the Dearborn Henry ford museum and greenfield. We stayed at Marriott at the GM Renaissance Center. We were pleasantly surprised at the convenience of the people mover, available inside the the center to take you to all the different parts of Detroit. The center itself has shopping, food court, and all kinds of GM cars to look at if you are a car lover. after visiting several communities downtown, we were surprised to see the riverwalk. It's so well redone and cared for and even has a state park encompassing part of it. It's 5.5 miles long with a cruise ship passenger terminal, lots of great architecture and they host music festivals. You can also look across the river at Canada. Or travel there If you want.

We loved our trip. The view is amazing, the walking paths are wide and easy to navigate. Parts of it are still under construction, but most is finished. You can rent bikes, take a ride on two different boats, ride a Merry Go Round, get some great food and drinks and enjoy outdoor Detroit and it was very safe. No worries at all. We will be going back.

If you are in Detroit, I would highly suggest you to visit this place. Beautiful view with amazing images. Great place for photos.

Of the limited things we did on our trip to Detroit this was one of the more pleasant ones. The waterfront is beautiful and the view of Canada is great. Signs of disrepepair are evident, but easy to look past with such a relaxing and beautiful walk.

After years of hearing how dirty and dangerous Detroit was, I was a little apprehensive about visiting, but knew that I wanted to experience the Motor City. I was completely surprised at how clean and safe the River Walk area and the downtown in general was. Detroit is a great city that is experiencing a renaissance (GM Renaissance Building pun not included) and I thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The Riverwalk is about 3 miles long and there is a nice, easy access parking lot at the corner of Rivard and Atwater Streets. The views of the Detroit River and Windsor, Canada are incredible. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the area.

Very nice place. Was very windy when we were there so didn't stay long but what we could see was beautiful.

Perfect for a leisurely stroll, jog, biking, people watching or whatever your preference. Safe and relaxing with the Detroit River right along side you!

Strollers, bikers, and scooter-riders share the pleasant walkway along the river. Note the statue commemorating the Underground Railroad, which helped escaping enslaved African-Americans to find their way to freedom in Canada across the river. Speaking of Canada: Just across the way, a sane country which offers universal health care -- something the U.S. sorely needs!

Park your car and walk the entire length of the Boardwalk and take in the Detroit river and views of Canada and its Red Flag. The walkway is long and mighty and plenty of photo opportunities along the way. You can walk, stroll, rent a scooter, and so much more. There are cruise boats coming in and out and the GM building is a must see and do.

The riverwalk is a great place to stroll and relax while viewing the Renaissance Center, Windsor across the river and other downtown buildings. From the carousel and parks to the fountains in the sidewalk, it is always a pleasant time. There is so much energy and it is contagious. A favorite experience when we have out of town visitors.

A beautiful pathway all along the river. Well maintained. It’s amazing what this area has turned in to.

This is a nice location on the water that is quiet and peaceful. Would like to see it better landscaped with plants, shrubs, flowers and such.

There is so much to see along the Detroit river. Perfect for a morning, lunch or evening walk. You can look across the river with views into Canada, duck into spaces across the river path that include the monument to workers, small city parks, or simply enjoy the brisk walk. There is a fairly straight path from convention center to nature preserve with native plants. Both are wonderful. The blue of the river is breathtaking on any day all by itself. Just enjoy

We love this area of the city and enjoy bringing out-ot-towners to walk along the river and see a lovely part of the Detroit. One trip, a Mallard duck walked with us and showed the areas of nature through his eyes. It's a gem!

For years my wife and I went to Windsor, Ontario to enjoy lush gardens overlooking the Detroit River.
Glancing to the corresponding shore was a nightmare of cement factories, parking structures and warehouses.
NO MORE! Thanks to a the energy of Detroit visionaries, including a friend named "Kate", the Detroit riverfront is rival to any such venue in this country. A long esplanade extends North from Hart Plaza and the GM towers through
fountains, a carousel, a fishing pier, a boat harbor, a natural garden, and the beautiful river. Walk or rent a bike or just find a comfortable place to sit in the shade or bask in the sun. From this noble start, plans are in the works to extend the Riverwalk to the Ambassador Bridge to the South and the MacArthur to the North.
And if you're in town long enough, segue into downtown Detroit to observe the amazing transformation of the City.

On a nice day I would highly recommend a walk on the Riverfront. You get a great view into Canada or of the Detroit skyline.

Detroit river side front is one the best place for walk beautiful and safe clean and wonderful must to see !

Excellent views of the skyline & Detroit River abound. Perfect location for bike riding, taking in a concert or enjoying a summer stroll.

A wonderful way to spend the afternoon! The Riverfront is a paved pathway along the Detroit River, with Windsor, Canada on the opposite side. The day we were there the sky was blue and the water was glistening. Saw some boaters in the river and many people enjoying the sun and walking the path. There is a lovely carousel at Cullen Plaza along the Riverfront that is not to be missed.
We parked at Cullen Plaza (1340 Atwater Street), free parking. From there you can take the pathway to the left or right. If you take it to the left, you will reach the harbor. If you cross Atwater at the harbor, you will get onto the Dequindre Cut, which is another paved pathway, running perpendicular to the River, along a former railroad line.

A nice area to stroll in if the weather allows for that. Some memorials that share some history of the area. There was some work performed on the nearest area to the river, still form the open parts you could enjoy a nice view of the river as well as the other side of the river the Canadian city of Windsor. Walking in the River Front you could see the tunnel connecting Detroit to Windsor. I didn't pass it so I can't provide details about the process. Downtown Detroit have some nice building, I recommend visiting The Guardian. There are plenty of restaurants on that side of town. Almost no restaurants at the river front area which I thought to be strange.

A long walk along the river with Canada on the other side. I was amazed at how many people were using it to walk, jog or just enjoy the open air and views.

So nice and clean great colorful spots to sit and relax Wonderful walk! The fountains near the RenCeter was fun and a great place for a class photo

The riverfront is a great places to get amazing views. It is very relaxing and worth a visit if even for a little bit.

Beautiful walkway along the water, from which you can get great views of the buildings as well as of Windsor across the river.

We did the river walk and it was nice to see so many people enjoying themselves. Walking, jogging, biking, skateboarding, and just enjoying the great city life.

Riverwalk is awesome. At times it is hard to believe you are in the downtown of a bustling city. I never have any concern about safety issues (cameras all over, regular security patrols) and that are usually tons of interesting people for people watching. Also tons if chairs, little lending libraries, a merry go round, a cool fountain kids love to play in, an all Michigan product street cafe, and a bike rental

Beautiful views of downtown, wonderful skyline scenery, awesome lighthouse, and we just barely scratched the surface. We didn’t even get to check out the GM Renaissance Center or the outdoor adventure center. We were just getting started! Great place to spend the day

Not to miss a stroll, maybe check out a local event or just take a picture! Canada has a beautiful skyline at night. Romantic summer evening.

A must visit in the city. Non-negotiable. Go experience it. It's a jewel in the city. If you enjoy the water, you want to go. There are art sculptures along the way, water fountain, you can stop and having lunch at the RenCen. Perfect for a date.

The Riverfront is great for bike riding, walking r just chilling. It’s kept very clean and is a safe ad romantic place to take a stroll with a loved one.

Went down this on a bird(electric scooter) scouting out where I was going to run, and was really surprised with how beautiful and clean the path was. This is excellent for walking, running, sightseeing. I would not suggest biking the path though.

Beautiful walk, or bike ride- bike rental on the walkway, great spaces for kids, lots of awesome natural space, lots of places to sit and people watch or watch the water.
A must do.

The Riverwalk was quiet, uncrowded and clean. I took walks every morning and evening while there. Enjoyed watching the river traffic and seeing Canada across the river.

I had not visited the riverfront in a long time. I was so happy to see it hustling and bustling with walkers, bikers, and joggers. Kids were enjoying the pop up fountain, and I learned about many places along the way from the photoshots on the sidewalk that were Pure Michigan, including the Porcupine Mountains where I’m going in the fall. It’s really a beautiful from this side of the river

We walked from the Westin Book Cadillac Hotel to the River front. Was a beautiful day and a beautiful view. Loved the graffiti cars art work along the way.

Great place to have a moment just appreciating the big structure and the conditional ground .clean place all time.

We loved our time down on the Detroit RiverFront. Don't forget to check out Campus Martius Park and the Monroe Midway!

We had some free time after our meeting so decided sponteneously to take the walk at the riverfront. It was real wonderful. We really enjoyed to see Canada across the river while walking on the sunny day on the riverfront on the Detroit side.

Beautiful view of some of the cleanest water I've seen in a long time. Nice view of Canada as well. Highly recommended.

Very clean and safe place. water fountains for children. Along the water beautiful view of architecture buildings of Detroit with great place to eat. Also looking across the river to Canada !

We were able to sit and people watch. We saw the speed boat show on the river.
The kids enjoyed a quick run through the water and a ride on the merry go round.
The photos were perfect that we took...it’s so many great scenery spots here.
The walk is also great exercise in a beautiful setting

Nice area for walking with plenty of benches, if you need to rest. You can see Canada & it is amazing to see just how close it is. We walked to the GM building to have lunch & they had a nice display of cars & trucks...new & old.

Was in town to see the Twins play the Tigers. Took in the Jazz fest at the Riverfront. Very nice. Loved all the statues and sculptures in downtown. Nice views and nice people.

The walk along the river front is very pleasant- it’s been made into a great space. Lovely strolling along beside the water, with pop up vans selling food, drink, ice cream.

This area is beautiful and has a great tribute to Rosa Parks. The river boat added a nice touch. Family friendly and a nice open area to view the river and let kiddos run around

The boardwalk is awazing..nice for a long walk.Stopped off the a glass of wine just before the parked steamship hotel..beautiful garden along the river..very safe

Great riverfront reclamation to make a go to place from an older area. Now people have a great incentive to visit the downtown area.

Whenever we’re in downtown Detroit we try to fit in a walk down the Riverfront. The pathway currently extends from the Joe Louis Arena up to the site of the old Hudson factory; apparently plans are in place to extend into this area too.
I like to pop into the GM Center for a coffee and then carry on walking up to Rivard Plaza. Great place for a walk.

The area is busy and there is a positive vibe. There are signs of growth. Lots of shops and eateries. The park is nice and hosts various events. We took advantage of Jazz in the park. You are close to casinos. Spectacular views abound.

So many historic monuments to see.
" The Spirit of Detroit " and the Joe Lewis "Fist" are right there. " Transcending" labor movement broken ring monument was my favorite. It is so impressive and honors the hard work and determination of the people before us. It was also such a nice surprise to see the Winsor Canada skyline from across the river at sunset.
I'd love to come back and explore more.
There is so much to see. I love the architecture of the old buildings and churches. There is so much to see.

It’s been a couple years since we e been here. The walkway was clean & quite. A pleasant 2-6 mile walk. We walked the whole thing including Milliken Park, down to the lighthouse.

We walked and rode bikes along this long and well taken care of path. Always enjoyable for a stroll or ride while in the city. Variety of people. We live in a country town so it's nice to see some dedicated nature out in a city.

Today was a blast! We rented bikes from the kiosk located at the Millikan State Park / Cullen Center. The couple that own the shop have a lovely selection of bikes at a reasonable price. The sky was blue. The temps were 60’s and it wasn’t too crowded on the riverfront. We rode the full length both directions and went on north to the Atwater brewery to “wet our whistle” then returned our bikes. Detroit is such a beautiful city and I was glad to see people out next enjoying it! Great day!

You can reach the RiverFront via the People Mover by getting off at the Renaissance Center stop. Walk through the Renaissance building and down the steps to the river. The river is beautiful. The water is the color you would expect to see in the Caribbean. The walk is paved making it easy for walking, jogging, biking or pushing a stroller. It is a very safe walk as there are many police/security people on bikes or walking around different areas. Looking straight across the river you will see the Canadian flag flying in Windsor. By turning to the right (facing the river) you will head towards Hart Park. Hart Park is very interesting (read more about it in its own attraction information). By turning to the left you will head towards Miliken State Park and Harbor. One of the first things you will come to when you go to the left is a water splash area. Children were having a fun time playing in the water that shoots up from the ground. There are many chairs to sit in and relax along the walkway which are great for relaxing, people watching or reading a book. We saw a couple of barges on the river as well as a Border Patrol boat. There is a carousel but it was not running the day we were there. There are also play areas for kids including a "beach" type area. A concession area was open for snacks/drinks. The walk enters Miliken State Park and normally you can walk to the harbor. However, the sidewalk was under repair so you were only able to walk about half way. There were also several exhibit areas that were under repair. It is a nice area that will be even better when the repairs are completed.

The riverfront walk is enjoyed by many in the evening - almost a festival atmosphere at times. It's also a good way to get to/from the Marriott RenCen to Cobo if you're doing a conference. Police presence is heavy when it needs to be, which is reassuring. And the river is very attractive!

Wow, I was very impressed and see why it was voted the #1 Riverwalk in the U.S. this April. Lots to see and do even for a 50 year old man who just wanted to see the river. I walked the entire 3 and a half miles and then rented a bike for 2 hours and rode to Belle Island and around most of it for a quieter experience. Bike routes on streets are plentiful and wide. Would highly recommend.

The river front is beautiful with views of Canada and the Detroit river. It has a beautiful fountain, a Merry go round, and snack bar. At the other end at the GM building there are free summer concerts on the river front. Nice place to relax!

Walk along the riverfront to see both Detroit and Canada across the water. They sometimes have free concerts in the summer time.

We start our 18 miles drive to downtown Detroit (my self +my 4 grandkids) with a sing along of our children songs, there is a free parking area to the east of Ren. Cen, and a small play area with a big tent like covered snack shack, bathrooms, bicycle rental shop,Carousel right on the river front facing downtown Windsor, Canada, then our walk through a path westbound towards GM headquarters building and Heart Plaza ending at Cobo Center exhibit hall, that has a big statue of the great boxer Joe Louis, on both sides of the walk path there are benches, art works, small bird houses that has book to read, inside the GM building there's shopping, hair saloon, and a large food court, with fast food and restaurants, over all It's a half a day trip worth of taking.

Just a fun day downtown. Cold but fun. Take the family and walk around and show them the history. We parked across the street for 10$ for all day on a Sunday and walked all around.

My friend drove me down to the river where we got to spend some time hanging out very quiet very nice plenty of places to sit or just hang out and enjoy the scenery very quiet and Serene

Nice place to take kids, or walk your dog. There is a nature trail also! They have a pavilion where you can sit in the shade and sells foods, beverages, and snacks.

We liked the Eastern Market and the area around it. A couple of breweries there were great. Went to Greektown wasn't much. Went to the Autorama. It was really good. We stayed at the Mariott in the Renassaince Center. Was disappointed they had no maps or recommendations of the area. We ordered our breakfast from Fuel and the young man who worked there every morning was awesome. Dining room was only open on weekends along with the bar. We ate at Pot bellies in the Center which is a good sandwich place and Andiamos which was great food. Our waiter the first night (Deangelo?) was really good. Second night our waitress was pushy ,a little short with us and continually trying to upsell us. Ate at London Chop house pretty pricy. Went to a bar I think it was downtown Railway in the name - cool little place think it was an old station. We had a big party for dinner the one night and no restaurants could accomodate us and one Fridays was empty but under staffed and we and anyone who walked in would have a 2 hour wait.
Do not walk at night - not a safe place we were accosted by panhandlers and one was shouting obscenities at my husband - getting in his face while he was walking and threatening he better bring him some money tomorrow. While we had great experiences overall I don't think I would go back. We were also told do not walk the riverfront, it isn't safe. So we did not go

nice clean place to hang out or jog with nice views. however i wish they had more local vendors that make Detroit so great.

It is a great place to walk or relax along the lake. You can see the Canadian side from across from Crowne Plaza Detroit Downtown Riverfront Hotel. This is a place to take some great photos.

The riverfront has come a long way! Now, you can walk or bike along the riverfront and up the Dequindre Cut.

Magnificent shore, very lively, full of people and parks, I advise the mayor to occupy the small abandoned aerial with gardens or small houses, so nothing will be "empty" inside the city. beautiful, let's go we're recovering!

You can do it all right here. I love Detroit. This is a playground for all in the summer. Concerts, Exercise and Networking..all in one place.

I last reviewed the riverwalk in November 2012 when I had just moved to downtown Detroit from the east coast. The last six years have significantly improved the the riverwalk with new paths added on both the east and west end portions and have also added better food options. The Riverwalk is open from 6 am until 10 pm and with the late summer sunset here, you can take it in any time of day or late evening until 9-ish. It is great for running, walking, biking or just sitting on one of the benches and enjoy the view of the river, Canada (only place south of US) the Ambassador Bridge or the freighters making their way up or down the river. If you are staying at any of the downtown hotels, make time for a walk, run or biking. At the Plaza about a ten minute walk east of the Renaissance Center, there is Wheelhouse where you can rent a bike, get food or use restroom. The Riverwalk is no longer desolate and gets very busy midday with office workers and especially on weekends. If you want more space early morning or after dinner is best. If visiting the D make the riverwalk one of your must do’s.

We had so much fun walking Downtown Detroit. Everyone was super friendly and so were the police. Much props to what they are doing at Detroit. Go for a walk. Go on the people mover and try new restaurants!

Detroit's aggressive renewal is evinced in the enormous vision and execution of the Riverwalk. As a first-time visitor, I hit this location and all of the wonderful sites along the way, e.g., GM Renaissance Plaza, the State Harbor Park, et al. There are wonderful exhibits along the way and outdoor art reproductions of works from the DIA (Detroit Institute of Art--a must see). The reproductions have been fabricated to withstand all weather conditions and each work has detailed captions about the work and the artist, but "Ain't Nothin' Like the Real Thing," baby. So, go to DIA and catch Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell at Hitsville.

Downtown in the D is a “must see!” Don’t listen to others, check it out personally you won’t regret the time spent!

This is a scenic and entirely pleasant route along the Detroit River. The views are nice, and the setting is quite pleasant. If you are near downtown this is well worth a visit.

A great place to exercise without really feeling it. The river soothes you, and if you get heated, just jump into the pop-up showers - it's really for the children, but the child at heart can give it a go too. In June, there are fireworks and a major concert gathering. Yoga gets practices here, people fish and have picnics. A great place to get your exercise on.

We came here,as I was told no visit to Detroit is complete without a trip to the waterfront....very true!Lots to see and do.
Beautiful views!

We came here our 1st night we walked down to the riverfront. It is clean and historical, pretty cool.
I enjoyed my time there.

I was staying at a hotel near Comercial Stadium, and had taken the people mover on Monday night to get a sense if the area. On Tuesday night, I walked the few blocks to the riverfront. There was a nice walking trail along the edge of the river. Near the ice cream shop and carousel, there was a concert by a small group playing string instruments with an appreciative audience. What a nice area and it appeared to be pretty safe.

The City of Detroit has done an excellent job rehabbing the walkway/bikeway along the Detroit River. The views of the river and Canada beyond are nice, and this is a fine place for people watching.

This is a pretty nice area to walk in the city. It could continue to improve with concessions open more regularly, but it's a nice walk.

We took a walk along the river and sat by the U.S. Coast Guard station and just talked and watched the ships.

The Detroit River riverfront was once totally industrial, with silos, factories, docks, and warehouses, and it was cut off for the vast majority of the people. Although it is not totally complete, the Riverwalk has opened up the river to everyone, and that is exactly who you will see strolling, riding, jogging, and skating along the paths on a nice evening. A great place to people-watch. There are plenty of things to entertain kids, too. And, for those of you visiting from out of the area, the city on the far shore is, indeed, Windsor, Ontario, Canada.

It is just amazing. The park had been closed for construction during my visit but other than that the riverwalk is just beautiful and serene. We rented a scooter and and drove along the river walk and it was just fun experience. It was the best time i had. There is so much history and so much to explore. I definitely want to go back and explore it all over again. It was all worth it.

This waterfront walk is beautiful. If you start near the Hart Plaza, there are quite a few large sculptures. Proceeding south along the waterfront, there's not much to see as you make your way towards the Ambassador bridge; its just a paved waterfront area. If you go north, you are in for quite a few treats. The GM building complex & promenade is a beautiful example of modern architecture. After passing that, there is an area of trees with benches and smaller sculptures leading to a waterfront park, which is complete with a playground, fountains, a carousel, and a stunning grove of trees. Definitely recommend a sunrise visit, as the views across the water into Canada are magnificent (except for that ugly Cesars Palace monstrosity).

Beautiful you can see across the river and see all the buildings over in Canada. You can look at the water and the boats,up at the bridge.A nice place to take a walk.

Much of this is still under construction, but the bit we walked was relaxing and beautiful. The unique seating and the statuary is appealing.

I remember when there wasn't a pathway nor places to stop along the way. From strolling, biking and pausing gm to admire the view, you can see Windsor in front just across the Detroit River with full visual access!
Perfect romantic moments to be had!!!

It is a bit over-hyped (most big cities with an access to a decent waterfront have something similar), but is still a pleasant place to spend a warm afternoon.

The trail is still being built in some places, so you may have to detour back up to the street, but what has been completed is nice. The stretch near Daley Plaza is not as nice as the newer sections.

The Riverwalk is awesome - clean, safe and well maintained. A great place to enjoy the Detroit River - walking, jogging, cycling & walking with dogs.

My husband and I had a great time walking at the RiverFront. The river and the views of Windsor are wonderful, of course, but I was really pleased by how clean and maintained the park is. There were some really beautiful planters in Rivard Plaza. I think this would be a fun place to take kids. There's a carousel at Rivard Plaza and some concessions. You can also rent bicycles there.

Very clean. Was difficult finding an entrance as everything is fenced off. Felt safe. Benches allow you to sit and enjoy the views.

Directly across the river you can see and almost feel Canada. This walk is currently about 5.5 miles. They are in the process of making it even longer. The views are awesome, and it is also a great way to get some exercise.

After riding the people mover our family took a walk along the Detroit river. We had a nice view of Windsor, Canada and the Ambassador Bridge.

We have always enjoyed Detroit for many reasons. The river front is most certainly one of them. We got married along it three years ago and we always enjoyed taking a stroll down by the river. The view of the river and of Windsor always makes us happy.
If you are looking for a quiet experience, I would recommend visiting this area on a Sunday where there is usually not large crowds of people. Plus, with the addition of several types of electric scooters or regular bicycles you can rent, it adds a fun and sporty new element to an already enjoyable location.

Amazingly good waterfront - really well developed. The views at different times are amazing!
Connected directly to the Hart Plaza where all the buzz is - get off and enjoy a tranquil walk and a lovely view of Windsor across!

Amazing scenery and calming Effect while looking at the water. I Will definantly be revisting nice envirnoment.

A place worth seeing.
Very windy and somewhat cold, bring a coat.
In the tower there is a food court at a good price.
See Canada from the United States

Walking along the river is really relaxing and enjoyable, there are benches to sit on if need be. Really meet some interesting people along the way. Was great to sit and watch the large lake boats go by.

The riverfront walk is lovely. Great for short exercise and people watching. It seems to be about 1 mile long.

The walk very pleasant. Everything is clean and well maintained. Security is present and during warmer weather sufficient places to eat along the walk. It is used year around.

There were beautiful views and it was a great afternoon walk! We really enjoyed the family-friendly atmosphere. It would be a great place for a picnic!

Another beautiful scenic site in Renaissance Circle. Enjoy the peaceful stroll through the park and bring a friend.

I had a chance to visit Detroit for a recent film festival and man was I blown away. The weather was great first of all and the clear blue skies were captivating. No Los Angeles smog! We had a free day so we decided to check out the Motown Museum, which was worth it to anyone who is on the fence, then headed to hangout by the waterfront. I was blown away by the number of homes that had boat docks in their backyard. I just had no idea the Detroit was such a beautiful city. I can't speak on the winters but this past summer was an amazing trip, that brought some amazing new people into my life. On top of everything, we won best documentary feature for our film. Thanks Detroit!!!!!

We love the stroll along the Detroit River. They keep adding to the River Walk and upgrading it. I wish they would add a few restaurants where you can seat outside right along the River. There is plenty of space left to do so. This area is certainly worth spending an afternoon. If you drive upriver from the Renaissance for a few minutes you’ll find plenty of public delete parking.

The Detroit RiverFront offers views of the river and of Windsor, Ontario. The views are nice but not overly stunning and the walk is fairly enjoyable. This is not a must visit but is nice if the weather is good or you have some free time.

A lot of the walk has been renovated, nice place to walk by the river with views of Canada right across.

Nice walking path that offers great views of both Detroit and Windsor. The path is wide so it can accommodate both bicyclists and pedestrians. Winds around marinas and riverside attractions for roughly four miles.

Second time in the city but first time strolling the river front along the Detroit River. Canada's Caesar casino in plain view. Clean streets. Clean river. Friendly locals. Good cafe.

The Detroit Riverfront was amazing and picturesque. People hung out to get some sun on their lunch break, kids, and families gathered around the splash pad. Great view of Canada and great play to hang out

We stopped here to stretch our legs from the roadtrip and this was such a nice pathway along the river. I loved looking across and admiring Windsor, Canada. I don't believe it's a must do in Detroit but you can't go wrong stopping here either!

My last day here, I had a chance to walk along the riverfront and enjoy the view of Canada across the river. There are several monuments and historical markers along the way and of course, there is GM's Renaissance Center and GM World museum as well.

Really looked forward to experiencing the Detroit Riverwalk with my family, all were excited. First clue of a problem was the website listed NO directions to parking. On arrival drove along the route for 1/2 hour but NO parking spaces. Tall parking structures/ wide empty lots but all were roped off or labeled “No Public Parking.” Although one lot 1/2 full, City of Detroit worker prevented our entry and said “we’re closed right now.” He had no alternatives to offer. Even the State Park had no parking. We gave up and went to Belle Isle - a disappointing day.

Everyone can enjoy walking around the Detroit riverfront! A lovely area to go for a walk or to run, alone or with company!

There are many riverside parks and walking courses around the base of the GM building. Detroit is not a dangerous city. There are many tourists, spending their time leisurely. There are various monuments in the park, which are interesting. After learning that Cadillac was a pioneer of Detroit, the value of the statue is clear.

Detroit has definitely upped their game and it shows. I was truly amazed with how great eveyrthing looks and how clean the riverfront is compared to years ago. Biggest drawback, however, is the lack of public restrooms. This is an absolute must - there are NONE!

When I was young the entire lakefront was pretty much taken up by factories with big chimneys. Little by little, the chimneys have disappeared and a path starting roughly at Hart Plaza now follows the Riverfront!
It's a very scenic walk, with nature taking over and constant view of the river, boats, and Canada! I would recommend going to Hart Plaza this summer for one of the the Friday free concerts and then take the opportunity to walk the Riverfront Path.

Three couples wanted to do the walk before having dinner in the 'D'. It was an A+ weather day and there was a huge crowd. It would have been much more enjoyable if they (the City) had kept bikes, scooters, skateboarders off the walkway. But it a great way to let the stress get out of you.

We did a lot of walking along the riverfront. It is so nice and clean. A very good place to walk, whether for exercise or just for a stroll.

A stroll along the banks of the Detroit River is a must whether it's morning, noon or dusk you will not be disappointed. You can gaze across at Canada, a place called Windsor on the opposite bank with an enormous Canadian flag fluttering in the breeze.

We enjoyed riding bikes on the waterfront and throughout Detroit including going to Belle Isle, very nice and friendly, it will be even better when it is completely finished!

A beautiful view of the Detroit river, Windsor, Ontario from the USA side, the skyline of downtown Detroit. Sitting areas, walking paths, etc.
Whether you are a Detroiter or a visitor - go here!

My first visit to Detroit and the riverfront was so nice! After a business meeting in downtown I walked along the riverfront to eat at the GM bldg. It was really a great place to take a stroll.

The river front has been transformed from surface parking lots and wrecked industrial sites to a beautiful river walk with parks and entertainment venues

This place is so beautiful! I walked the Riverfront, but there are bikes available and wish I would’ve known about the bikes. We walked into downtown Detroit from the Riverfront. Biking would have been much more fun!

Gorgeous views, clean, and lots of people watching. Water was clear blue. Very scenic walkway along the river.

Really nice place to visit in downtown. Lots of people walking and exercising. Kept pretty clean and feels safe. The fountains are cool. Some more signage and shade would be great.

Brilliant to have this wide leisurely promenade along the Detroit River. Enjoyed a nice healthy walk and all the families and friends strolling too.

The Riverwalk was a delightful surprise! We hadn’t been to Detroit since the amazing renovation to downtown Detroit. Even on a cold winter day, the walk was easy from the start to the GM building complex. We enjoyed the history of GN cars on the “carousel” as well as a scattering if stores.

What a lovely walk along the Detroit Riverwalk. We had a light breeze off the water. The walkways are concrete and very easy for walking or wheelchairs or mobility scooters. There is a public washroom and vendors selling water if you have forgotten yours. A great walk!

Took a walk down here from one end to the other.. took about half an hour, was clean and safe... just remember you need $1 if you intend to take the people mover back :)

This was a really relaxing walk along the front with great views of the city of Detroit. It was a bit cold when we went so plenty of warm clothes definitely required as the cold wind blows across from Canada the other side of the river, which is really close.
There are large ships that transit this waterway and they are very close to the walkway as they transit through to Lake Michigan. If in Detrot, definitely go for the walk, well worth it.

Probably the best open space to visit and take a walk in downtown Detroit. Specially nice is the area around Hart Plaza and Gateway to Freedom monument.
Nice views of the river, Canada across it and downtown with its high rises.

We did not know about the RiverFront until we got to Detroit - my family spent hours there! The kids must have played in the fountian for a good hour, and we enjoyed our stroll toward the nature part at the farther end of the park. Beautiful!

The RiverFront is a wonderful place for a stroll. There is a small state part frequented by local ducks. This is a great way to see the river front. There are historical tablets and interesting information about the river and the fish. There a lots of people out walking and enjoying the river and the views of the city and Windsor.

Standing by the river you understand why the great city was located here. It is fun to watch the boat traffic and look at Canada on the other side of the river.

Went with the while family who really enjoyed, great views and really vibrant. Would highly recommend anyone to visit this place, kids really enjoyed the water facility

The location, the staff, the facility were all excellent. This was our first trip to Detroit and everything about the trip was great. The Courtyard hotel was in the right place. It was walking distance from the riverfront. It was across the street from the GM Building. It was walking distance to restaurants, historic sites and casinos. Canada was across the river. The staff was excellent. Though there were 4 different family reunion at the hotel at the same time, the staff was friendly and gracious. If we get a chance to return to Detroit we will definitely stay at the Downtown Courtyard

Detroit's riverfront is excellent for walk or bike, especially in front of renaissance building.I was very possitive surprised by the riverfront and the center of the city

Took 9 year old to play at there lil playscape. Not designed t children who are tall.
Then walked around nature part of riverwalk. There are some exhibits that will b really nice once completed.
There is an eatery. A sand pit. You can rent bikes. The carousel was in operation before we left. Plenty of seats if u get tired of walking.

Detroit is finally getting it's sh*t together. Some friends and us went down to the GM RENCEN for a 'rockin on the riverfront' concert. What a great place to spend the evening. Detroit has cleaned up the area where you can walk from downtown to Belle Isle in a safe, clean environment. We walked to Campus Martius to eat outside then partied on the river front to John Kay and Steppenwolf. Great night of music and people watching. We will be going back next year!!

Great spot for pictures, there's a fountain nearby that's pretty cool and if you have time the GM headquarters tour is nice too! Good area to be in!

We've been there on a very hot day, it was a nice walk while looking at the river. The fountains area is also a great place for kids to play and refresh on a sunny hot day. Good place to exercise, just be aware on the bikers, rollers, skaters, etc., specially if you have young toddlers.

Not only the Riverside is beautiful but Detroit Downtown has really transformed into a nice touring place like another worthy city that attracts visitors. I remember my last visit of the city about 10-12 years ago when we were afraid of rolling down car windows for fear of snatching by nearby loitering junkies. Not anymore. This time around, however, not only we rolled down car windows but also strolled up & down streets for couple of hours, and loved what we saw. The Riverside promenade, Comerica Park, Woodward Street, Campus Martius, Roadside cafes, Wayne State County Uni Campus, MGM Grand vicinity, Greek Town and so much more to visit and enjoy with friends & families.
Don’t know who brought about this refreshing change but salute to those who did, and revived this from the dead!
🌹🌹🌲🌲❤️❤️

A great way to get in lots of steps, see skylines, watch happening on the river, watch people. A culturally diverse atmosphere. Clean. Quiet in the morning. Busy in the evening.

I could see it being nice in the summer time, but currently most of the area is getting new concrete poured or is in dilapidated condition. Not surprised as it's Detroit.

detroit river (d'etroit) is the isthmus between southern ontario and the city of detroit. begins at lakeshore park at alter rd and goes all the way past downtoin and the downriver communities
most places offer riverwalks andparks but the main1 best accessed from gm rencen. have fun dont fallin
thisis 4 seasons

Bike, jog, or scoot for miles in this perfect flat setting with a wide paved path. It connects to the Dequindre Cut which takes you up to the famous Eastern Market. It extends from the Bridge to Canada almost to Bell Isle. The sculpted memorial to the underground railway at the river side of Cobo Plaza is of historic importance. On the Jefferson Ave side of Cobo Park are two memorial sculptures to Labor, and in the center a beautiful fountain. Beautiful views of the Detroit River, bridge to Canada, Windsor, and Steamboats and ocean liners as well as pleasure craft. Great place to sit and relax and watch the river flow.

Detroit riverfront is a really nice place to hang out and spend time. you can sit here and enjoy the view. If you are on the US side, then you will see Canada on the other side. There are the bikes available on rent ($8 for 30 mins). I got one and did cycling there and enjoyed a lot. GM Renaissance Center is also on the same place, so you can visit that as well, its free.

I'm an avid hiker/walker and work in the RenCen so on nice days, I make it a point to get out on the Riverfront walk to take advantage of this gem of Detroit. It's really something special to have a long walkway like this along a major river in a big city - and you can see Canada! (This is funny to me because I very often pass groups of tourists as I exit the back of the RenCen who are marveling that they can see Canada.I grew up here - of course that's Canada!)
Tip 1 - it can often be quite crowded at lunch time and later in the day if the weather is good during the week and weekends. If you really want some tranquility, this isn't always the best spot unless you go in the mornings. There are plenty of places to stop and rest.
Tip 2 - if you do go at lunchtime, plan to walk into the atrium at the back of the RenCen and walk straight back to the GM car exhibits. Follow the circular exhibit around to the opposite side and you'll find the food court with a variety of restaurants. You can get your food to go and carry it back outside to eat along the river. Or find a table and join the inside excitement of our towers.
Tip 3 - if you decide to explore the RenCen, you'll probably get lost. While it's way better than it used to be, it's still a very confusing building. Just ask. Those of us that work there are happy to direct you! It took me a good year to not get turned around - don't feel bad about asking.

Lovely waterfront with great views. Great for families and all ages. Free parking makes it easily accessible.

On a hot and muggy afternoon, head to the waterfront and try to catch a breeze - it seems everyone else in Detroit is doing it. It’s a public promenade similar to Las Ramblas in Barcelona, the main square in Mexico City or the Malecon in Havana. Especially charming is the long linear fountain where little kids squeal and laugh and play to their hearts delight. Joe-bob sez: check it out.

I was here on a business trip and had the opportunity to walk down by the river and it is absolutely beautiful they have seats and they even have a water fountain that kids playing in they also have a huge sandbox for kids to play but the waterfront walkway goes for a long distance down the river which is so beautiful and it’s a nice walk in the evening or even at sunset. Beautiful view of Canada on the other side it’s just nice to see all the people enjoying the riverfront and nice add to Detroit.

Very impressed with this riverfront walkway. Went for a morning walk while staying at a downtown hotel and enjoyed how clean and well maintained it was. Almost everyone greeted you as you went by. Many must be regulars there since they had riverfront walker T-shirts.

Rent a bike at the Milliken Park and enjoy a great downtown scene. The Riverfront is wonderful and you will see a terrific mix of age, race, physical conditioning, etc. Humanity gathers to be grateful for creation, for life and for the benefactors and civic leaders who have helped the renewal of Detroit!

This area keeps on improving with longer paths to enjoy a stroll next to the river. All the new development around your area has made this a very interesting place to enjoy and walk to get some exercise particularly when the weather is good. Don’t miss it.

I just love that Detroit is coming back, I have always love the RiverFront and the different events scheduled doing the summer. It is a nice place to go even if there is not special event. The new Detroit offers so much to see and do within walking distance. You can visit the RiverFront for free most days, if there is a special event there may be a cover charge. Great food options.

From here, you can see the Canadian border. It was really nice weather so we went to get coffee and enjoy the weather.
Such a great place for some peace and quiet.

If you could walk about 1.5 miles across the river you would end at Caesar's Hotel and Casino in Windsor Canada. Beautiful lights at night and we walked at 8 PM and still many people enjoying the Fall view. Some walk, jog, run, and bike on the wide 4 person sidewalk. Guessing in the summer it is really fun! Benches along the way to stop and rest, places to eat and very safe. Many places to park around $10 unless you have Ecar and GM headquarters in front of riverwalk has 4 public charging stations-no fee! GM also has about 8 different restaurants so you can eat in their food court or take it across the street to the riverwalk. I read in 2 years they are enlarging the entire area to include beach, pickle ball courts, corn hole and playground area for kids. Path is now about
10 minutes long. You can take the QLine and walk ,3 or the people mover to Joe Lewis Arena stop and you are at the very beginning. Good place to exercise!

Very nice walk along the river, on the Sunday that I visited there was a huge and delightful variety of people and boats all around. It's very sad to see that most of the territory on the other side of the riverwalk from the river is just parking structures and lots. Such a great resource for the city devoted to cars (yes, Detroit, but) that are just sitting waiting for their owners for hours.

It was a beautiful day when we escaped the skyscrapers and enjoyed a wonderful walk beside the Detroit River. We got off the DPW (Detroit People Mover) at the Renaissance Center stop. Had an interesting stroll through the GM complex down to the river, noted that this was a good food and water resource. Across the river is Windsor,Canada, which is south of Detroit. I saw a monarch butterfly heading across the river and though his navigation was totally off, joke was on me. The Renaissance Center is an impressive structure against the Detroit skyline. They have developed a marsh beside part of the 3+ mile long Riverwalk with helpful flora and fauna identification displays along the way. We even encountered a lighthouse. On the other end of the walk is an impressive riverboat and a short walk to the iconic monument to Joe Louis at Hart Plaza. Don’t miss the great architecture in the downtown.

Fabulous views of Detroit River, Detroit skyline, Great Lakes freighters, leisurecraft, and Windsor Ontario. Or just sit on a bench and enjoy the breeze. Take a leisurely stroll along the banks or bike it. Rentals available. Carousel for the children. Food court. Usually plenty of people around. Family-friendly. The Riverwalk is free.

This is a great place to take a stroll and enjoy the riverfront in Detroit. It connects to downtown and you can walk all the way from Campus Martius Park down the center of Woodward to the riverfront.

This relatively new / renovated area in Detroit does deserve a short visit.
The views from the river and the GM buildings complex make this a nice experience.
Parking is easy, but you will have to pay for it.

Nice stroll down well marked paths while looking at the river. There were places to sit along the trail as well as restrooms. There were also small play structures with facts about animals along the trail. We wish the carousel had been operating when we visited.

Walking along the river seeing Canada on the other side was a cool experience.
I went to the Ford building and saw a bunch of beautiful cars.
A crazy car made out of LEGO’s
Had a great time.
Thanks Detroit

Really enjoyed this view. Very quiet and relaxing. This was part of the trip to Detroit. The city looks bad but this was a positive

It's a walk along the river; we've seen more stunning views. But, it isn't bad either --- with Canada across the way and possible boat traffic and things to see along Hart Plaza. If you are limited on time, we'd suggest a walk through downtown instead.

Good place to stroll. Down to earth and no surprises. Could use more attractions (cool bars and restaurants) but overall this is what Detroit has to offer. Take a look at the creative street scene going on behind, and before Greek Town

The riverfront is quite beautiful when the weather is nice. I don't think I would recommend being on the waterfront in the evenings as there were some rough looking groups of people congregating in the area as the day went on.

As we were staying downtown, we were able to take full advantage of this walk along the Detroit River. It was very quiet when we stayed, though at some times of the year I'm sure it gets very lively (Jazz Fest, summer etc.). A little farther to the east is Milliken Park, a charming little park with a lighthouse and wonderful views to downtown Detroit, the Ambassador Bridge and Windsor, Canada.

Our friends took us here and it’s a nice area to walk and to just relax with Canada right across the river. There is a large commercial complex that sits along the water front that has several places to eat. In all a pleasant afternoon. Parking can be a bit of a hassle.

The day we got here, there was a river fest goin on n it was great. 3 or 4 stages with bands playing, great food, air show, water show which was awesome, a walkin path where birds would attack you (real Kool for kids). Not sure how great without event goin on but most stop if river fest is happening. Oh did I mention ONLY $3 to get in.

My husband and I visited Detroit over the Memorial Day weekend and spent an hour strolling the Detroit Riverfront (from Cobo Centre to Milliken State Park). It was not crowded even on a beautiful sunny Memorial Day. Views of the Ambassador Bridge, Detroit River, and downtown Detroit were fantastic. We stopped by the RiverWalk Cafe for Michigan-made soft serve, which was very creamy and tasty. Police patrols the riverwalk regularly, so we felt very safe.

Came down with a friend to enjoy the Charles Wright African American museum and went for a walk down here afterwards.. SOOOO BEAUTIFUL! A gem in the downtown Detroit area!

The Detroit riverfront is decent but not the best. This is because the Windsor skyline is terrible. Though the paths are nice. Some great spots for photos. Also very easy to get to downtown Detroit

My friends and I went here for a place to have an after dinner cigar. We found parking in a gravel lot and entered East of Saint Aubin Park. Well kept and benches available. Several blue light emergency call stations. In fact the 10p Park closing was strictly enforced by DPD. I will return when I’m back in the area.

Hotel was beside the walk.
Each morning I took my coffee on the bench and watched Detroiters using this lovely river walk.
Safe, clean, and a great part of the river experience.

Nice place for a walk along the waterfront. I’m was a nice summer evening and lots of people were out enjoying the night.

Wonderful to walk the entire or some of the riverfront and lots of places to eat. Head to or from the eastern market for good values in food veggies and fruit, along with fun people watching

The Detroit Riverfront is a beautiful place to be at. There is a fountain that the children play in. There are places to eat at and a path that people can walk on that is very close to the river. The pigeons and seagulls like being by the river. There is a boat that can take people on a ride to an Island or for the fireworks. They serve a fantastic buffet and the dining room is decorated in red blue and white. There are two concerts that are presented. The group sings oldies but goodies Motown hits.

The center of Detroit is really nice, I would never have thought, it is so little known and so little frequented by the tourist routes, it's a shame, it is definitely worth a visit

We were in town ion a colder day and so there was no outside activity. But a walk along the riverfront is not to be missed! A visit to GM HQ is in the center and offers plenty of dining options, too. In the warmer weather I bet this walk is even better.

Beautiful riverfront walking or biking area. Nice walk along river with parks and green space along the way. Felt safe, no issues.

The river front area of Detroit is a sizeable stretch of walkable space that is about 4 miles in length. If you walk the entire length you'll find yourself weaving in and out some of the good and not so cleaned up areas of the city, so I would recommend staying on the path and picking the places where you want to jump off the path and head back into the city. There are some more scenic areas of the walk and as you get toward the heart of the city you'll find some great statues and moments dedicated to a variety of meaningful purposes. It is worth a visit when you are in the city, and on the nicer days, you can spend some time walking the length of this stretch.

The Riverwalk is nice, but, because of construction and fencing, etc. blocking your way, it is not an uninterrupted walk along the river. At times, you need to go back up to the street to complete the entire 5 mile walk. Otherwise, it is nice to walk alomg the river (where you can) and enjoy the view. There are numerous, family-oriented activities and several places to eat along the way. There is also a free parking area (2 hour limit) at about the halfway point.

The riverfront walkway snakes for 4 miles along the water. The setting is pretty, and in good weather this is a fine place for people watching.

Pretty riverfront walk. Lots of greenery and public art. Enjoyed every day we were in town, as it's convenient to the Cobo Center.

Going to see the Friday rock on the Riverfront is free. Good national bands with local opening acts. Beverages and inexpensive parking. It is a safe and fun night out. There are seats but need to pay extra includes dinner at andiamos restaurant! Those tickets go fast.

It was very clean and beautiful to walk along the detroit river front and lit up very nicely at night

here you can walk and enjoy the view towards Canada and walk through the GM building and stop for a drink

Ten years ago, I would not have considered and afternoon on the riverfront. It has come a long way. Cleaner, safer, better police presence and lots of new development.

During covid, they had shut down a large beautiful park with the appearance of construction, but it was probably crowd control since no work seemed to be going on, it caused the access to the riverfront to be populated with lots of sketchy characters and rather unnerving to access from this area...once you got there it was lovely, but Detroit is a scary place to walk around for the most part!

Walking along the Detroit Riverfront is a joy to be experienced. This morning is the calm before the storm as today is the continuation of the Detroit Jazz festival. Later today will be music, people and food.

A couple hours filled with beautiful views and a peaceful walk!
Clean, well kept areas for a walk along the river.

The River Front/River Walk was such a great way to spend an evening! The walkways, gardens, fountains, sculptures, all right in front of downtown, and across the river from Canada, were wonderful. So many people out walking, relaxing, riding bikes, etc, made it a great way to spend a beautiful evening in Detroit.

Such a relaxing walk. It was raining lightly but we had such a great time walking along the river and enjoying the view. Watching the ships and the movement of the water. There's a splash pad for kids and adults and plenty of benches to enjoy the view.

Your walk and visit of the sites in Detroit on the RiverFront will be memories you will not forget!! Take pics!!

This place has plenty of views and places to sit. Lots of parks along the riverfront. And if you’re close to the GM Renaissance Center, lots of police and security.
You can see Windsor, Canada across the river, views of the city, and other things to see. Plenty of places to sit and rest. But beware, lots of tourists visit this area as well as events too.

I walked thru Hart Plaza and then on down to the riverfront. The path stretches quite far in both directions. I walked down to see the riverboat (being cleaned) and to get a better view of the bridge to Canada. Excellent

You have the GM building a few sculptures, the Detroit river and that is about it. Nothing to brag about.

You would always love walking around the riverfront area. Good view, nice places to eat, lots of activities all around. I just loved walking around the riverfront area when the weather was kind.

Walking alone the international waterway gives the feeling of being in a unique place and time. The historical monument of the underground railroad at Hart Plaza is soo realistic, it gives me chills. Love the beach scene with beach chairs and sand in the summer. The fountain outside of the RenCen is a great place to take a rest and watch children run through the in ground fountain.

Pre check if the cafe in the middle of the route is open. Would be a nice break of your walk. Family recommended

The river walk area was so pretty. We really enjoyed walking along the rive and watching barges, waving to Canada and enjoying the weather. The Joe Lois memorial was really cool on the way to the river front. I tried this in February, I don't recommend this in the winter. This time was much better.

The Detroit Riverwalk provides a very nice way to see the riverfront in the city, and to walk, jog or run. Lots of green areas, trees, wetlands, benches and chairs to sit on and relax. They also have a few spaces for live music and local events and some basic food, cold drinks and ice cream.
There are some fishing areas and a marina as well as a concert venue. Worth checking to see what local events might be happening there. A great outdoor space to enjoy in the heart of the city.

We decided to enjoy a day in Detroit. One of the items on our list was the Riverfront.
We started at Huntington Place (previously known as Cobo Hall) and continued up to the Dequinder Cut.
Along the walk, there were lots of historical plaques.
It was very much like a walking history tour. It is very informative and a wonderful view of nature.

The best place to be in Detroit .very friendly staff.great view clean rooms.i luv the ambiance and setup.

Nice easy place to walk with great view of river and Canada to the south. Paved path and lots to see. Relaxing place to stroll.

Quick one hour walk along downtown Detroit and the river. Fairly new, good for calm walk with family. View across Canada

The river walk runs along the Detroit River. It is a genuinely nice way to enjoy the scenery and walk, run or bike. I try to include a visit to the river walk on my trips to Detroit.

The Detroit River walk is a lively and nice place for a long walk bike ride or scooter i was on the US side and canada is just a stones through away

The Detroit RiverFront is a must see when visiting Detroit. You can walk, bike ride, or skate the 2 mile paved path. When it is a nice day, it is very beautiful. Bring your lunch and sit on the grassy areas or benches to watch the boats go by.

Especially in summer river walk is amazing place to go in Detroit. You can enjoy walk, bike ride, live music over weekends, playground for kids, fountains, fishing, jet skis, free yoga classes sometimes, wall paintings and lots of other fun activities.

Beautiful views of the river! Wish there were more restaurants and bars along the path for entertainment.

This cool place to see and take walk at in the park play volleyball , sit read book or ride bike and more thing to do .

We didn't spend a lot of time here. It was part of the walking tour. The view is beautiful as you look across the Detroit River at Windsor Canada

I visited the Detroit River Front on a recent visit to Detroit. My family and I enjoyed our walk along the Detroit River. There are views of Belle Isle, the Ambassador Bridge, and Windsor, Ontario, Canada, across the river. The area was clean and had some really nice landscaping. It was clear we were in an urban setting, but the river front is a nice place to get fresh air along the river. There was also a splash pad area for children that was nice. There is also an area to get some refreshments.
I was impressed by the River Front.

Parking at a lot in the area is hourly but not too expensive. The waterfront is beautiful and kids can enjoy running through the water foundations. Most buildings are open and have restroom access. The RenCen, for example, has a couple places open like a Panera Bread inside on the first floor.

Great place to take a walk or run and enjoy the views. Great day for a stoll. The kids enjoyed the walk. Great place for pictures.

This renovated area now includes this beautiful riverwalk. It is very wide and able to accommodate bikers, joggers, walkers, strollers, etc. It's kept very clean and unobstructed. A lovely place to go walking.

What Detroit has done with the riverwalk area is commendable, but living 2 blocks from Lake Mich on the Chicago side, it’s hard for me to get too excited.

Enjoyed the River Walk - Great Scenic Walk- Attractions near by- GM Museum right next to it - Real Wide so you don't feel crowded -

Easy walking along the Detroit River waterfront overlooking Windsor Canada. Good place for a bike ride.

My family recently did a nice walk on the riverfront for the first time last week and I love the set up. I love that they have huge pots of flowers and a water fountain for the kids as it was very hot that day. Definitely worth visiting and enjoying the view of Windsor, Ontario, Canada across the Detroit river. We will most likely be going back.

What a lovely way to spend some time by walking along the river. I appreciate Detroit is revitalizing the area making it a destination with restaurants, walkways & hotels nearby. A great view of Windsor.

Detroit is in the middle of a revitalization and it is no more visible than on this beautiful riverfront walkway. With sidewalks, plants, gardens, shops, merry go round, restaurants and more, this is a lovely way to spend a morning or afternoon or evening.

Enjoyed the art and the nicely done trail. Most establishments were closed but on a nice day it was a good safe place to walk. Really liked the Spirit of Detroit.

The Detroit Riverfront is a true gem providing spectacular views of the Detroit River and the city skyline. With Windsor, Ontario, Canada directly across the water, this is a unique international waterway experience. There's nothing like it on blue sky day any time of the year!! And the winter scenes are no less spectacular! Walk or bike the riverfront. Sit on a bench and just watch the people or the boats of all sizes going up or down the river, including the lake freighters and the ocean-going ships! There's a fountain to run through or just enjoy the kids playing there. And a carousel to enjoy. Bring a picnic lunch or buy your lunch from the cafe and enjoy the view from one of several parks. Look for the historical markers noting the French founding of the city in 1701, the early African American residents and the first Jewish resident of Detroit, the Underground Railroad during the 1800s, and more. There are summer festivals and winter activities on selected weekends, free Friday night summer concerts, summer concerts in the Aretha Franklin Park amphitheater, bike rentals, river tour boats, dinner cruise boats, and more. A work in progress, the Detroit Riverfront just keeps getting better. So if you plan to spend time along the riverfront, especially with children, check out the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy's website for a map of the points of interest, including food and restrooms, and upcoming events.

We enjoyed our stroll along the river to get a bit of a breeze on a hot summer day. There’s a play area , fountains, cafe, lots of benches and even some sun loungers to relax. We enjoyed the views of Canada and looking at the big frogs in the wetland area.

Great way to spend an afternoon or a few hours. You can rent bikes which might make it easier. Seemed to be lots for people to enjoy we just enjoyed walking and taking in the scenery. Did get a little busy later on. There were lots of giggles coming from the splash pad - what a great idea.

The view of river and Canadian skyline is great. The walking track design nice which very relax and comfortable walk. Parking is also easy here. Nice activity for view and exercise when in town.

If you are looking for something to do head down to the Detroit Riverfront. There is a splashpad to cool down on hot day. Beautiful sites to see. You can walk for miles and make friends. There is a bike trail too! I am so proud to say Detroit is evolving and you can see change everyday. Take advantage of our gems!

Lovely safe area to walk down and see the views over the river to Windsor Canada and visit the renaissance centre, you can hire bikes or walk plenty of places to eat or drink.

It’s a very nice place excellent views, Sumer is the perfect time to walk all long way to the shore during daylight as well as to enjoy the sunset.

There is far to many things to do to list them all here. All Summer they have free concerts on the Riverfront, so many cool little family areas, not far from a ton of shops, and places of interest, not to mention it is a beautiful place to just take a walk and spend time by the water. While Detroit gets bad press, the downtown and River Front areas are exceptional.

If you are ever looking for a great place to take a run, walk or bike ride look no further that the Detroit Riverfront. Safe parking right by the Milliken State Park off of Atwater. From there you can enjoy over 3 miles of the Detroit river on a very nicely paved path. Safe, easy access and plenty of opportunities for food and restrooms.

A great plaza and walkway along the Detroit River across from Windsor Canada. Durn the warmer months there’s a festival almost every weekend.
Hit a festival, take a walk along the River, or watch one of the Greatest Fireworks displays in the Country that is put on as a joint adventure between Detroit and Windsor.

Detroit is back! The downtown and waterfront are beautiful and safe. Enjoy Greek town, sports, casino and all that the great city has to offer.

Loved the riverfront! The breeze is great, the views are amazing and there is a variety of stuff to look at along the way, from sculptures to murals, to the Canadian flag across the straight! Lovely to visit!

Really a beautiful way to spend a summer day. Beautiful view of the water and of Canada across the river. Places to sit, places to eat along the way. I saw security patrolling on bicycles which was a plus. Not that I didn't feel safe but it was nice to see them just the same. I would highly recommend visiting and spending a relaxing day out there! Great way to get some exercise!

We walked from downtown to the GMRenCen along the RiverFront. It is a great way to view Windsor and to see some of the sculptures along the walk.

To be fair, the day I walked it was rainy and rather chilly.
I found it somewhat inconvenient to get to.
I didn't see any maps (which would have been helpful).
The views were well worth the other hassles.

After touring Greenfield Village in muggy weather we drive here and enjoyed a refreshing walk along the river. Found a bench and did some people watching. Bikes available for rent that would like to ride along river. Best advice was for free parking at Cullen Plaza (1340 Atwater). Also a ferry service for afternoon river cruise and snack shack if thirsty. Not much to see but that was not the point. Great place to walk and cool off.

It was a beautiful day. There were not so many tourists in the area. I was amazed at how many beautiful architectural designs

This is an enjoyable place to pass some time in Detroit. Pretty views across the clean, BLUE Detroit River to CAD, nice breeze on a hot day, water splash play for little ones, DET skyline, access to the Peoplemover, and clean, clean, clean. A nice surprise!

We were at the RenCen and Riverfront area yesterday. The GM car display was closed to swap out cars. :(. We still had fun. We enjoyed lunch there and my grandson played in the Riverfront splash pad.

This is an excellent outdoor venue and worth the investment that the city of Detroit made. Great place to walk!

We enjoyed stopping and strolling along the river. Very nice area with food/drink. Beach chairs along the path is a nice touch. One can rent bikes there also. We did not have time for this however looked fun. We parked at free lot and that was a challenge to get a spot but be patient as people are coming and going.

We frequent the Detroit river front with our labradoodle least 6-8 times a year, a few times in every season. It's just a delight to walk the stretch as you watch the boats, the barges, the Ambassador bridge, the Canadian and Detroit skylines and of course all the people. Watch out for the guy on the bicycle decorated with a ton of flashing lights playing upbeat music for all of the patrons.
My favorite spot to park (for free) is at the Eastern end of the river walk off Atwater and Rivard st. (Take Jefferson East past the RenCen for a couple blocks and turn right on Rivard st. Go straight down to Atwater, parking lot should be on your left. There is also a bunch of street parking on Atwater past the lot). Another one of my favorite spot is the lighthouse further East of Rivard. Do not miss it, it's a small but very pretty one with a small park around it next to the marina where the sailing enthusiasts dock their toys. It offers some of the best views of the RenCen with lovely weeping willows in the foreground.
The Detroit Princess cruise boat docks at the western end of the river walk off Hart Plaza. The most convenient parking at this end would be the Atwater structure off Marriott hotel in the RenCen bldg. (Take Jefferson East and take the 1st right after passing the RenCen, entry to the structure on your left); although it will cost you a bit.
Take a stroll from one end to the other. You will not regret it.

I spent like 2 hours here, walking by the river, admiring Canada across the water, taking great picture in front of the GM building and the area around. We parked in the garage 1h $6, 2h $8 , 3h $12.

The best time to visit the Riverfront is in the summer, where there are concerts, festivals, fun for kids and various venues. Walking the Riverfront is also fun.

River walk is excellent, places to sit and watch the river, rent bikes or just stroll along the water.

beautiful stretch to walk, people watch, hang out. Everyone I spoke to was very kind, we really enjoyed our time down there

This is a nice place to visit. The Security is visible for your safety. Very peaceful and Family friendly, its a must see.

It doesn’t matter the river walk gives great views and nice places to pull over to see the Detroit Rive and great views of Windsor across the way. Combining this walk/ride with the Dequindre Cut also makes for a great experience.

Plenty of activities and fun for all ages. There's the riverwalk, amusement park, exercise and musical events. Spring, Summer and Fall themed activities.

We started at Chene. They have bubbling ground fountains for kids to play in. As you continue down the riverwalk there are various benches and chairs to sit on and more play areas for kids. GREAT!

The riverfront is an enjoyable and relaxing place to be! If you ever visit Detroit, you must visit the riverfront and get a bite to eat while enjoying the breeze and beautiful view!

Lots to see and do downtown especially during the nice summer months .
If you have children the splash fountain is a nice place to keep cool.
Wear comfortable shoes with it being downtown parking is limited be prepared to walk.

I love wandering around a new city to get to know it and the river walk in Detroit was a great way to do this. When I was there, parts of it were blocked off for construction. If you're looking for a lot of shops and things, this isn't the walk for you, but it's a nice hike, lots of green, and of course Canada is on the other side of the river, which is cool to see. I walked the entire length of the walk from the Cobo Center to Chene Park and back again. I walked leisurely and stopped to sit and people watch regularly and it took less than two hours. It was a bit hot out, so I stopped in at the GM Renaissance Center for some AC and a bite to eat after. It was a great way to spend a summer afternoon in Detroit.

The Detroit RiverFront is an excellent place for an early morning power walk. When the air is crisp in the spring/fall/early winter, or sultry in the summer.
You will see interesting people from Detroit, all over the world.

We has a good time walking the river front. There was a great breeze and the sun was out. Not being a Detroit native, its still odd for me to see Canada just on the other side of the river!

We love waking here on a bright sunny day. Great to see so many people enjoying it.
Families, couples, fishing, biking, running, and great people watching.

A wonderful way to start a Sunday is a long leisurely stroll along the Riverwalk enjoying the views of the river, Windsor, and the landscaping and gardens. Early on you pretty much have the walkway to yourself but the population grows as the morning moves on and out come the bicycles, skate boards, runners, yoga classes, and maybe even organized races. There are plenty of benches to enjoy so you can rest and people watch; restroom and water facilities are frequent and there is even the occasional opportunity to pop into a restaurant for a leisurely brunch.

A very pleasant area to walk. No restaurants or shopping, just walking paths. Nice view of Windsor across the river

Spent a quick up and back trip to Detroit because we had never been...Took the “people mover” from The Renaissance Hotel ( which was huge but fabulous) and exited at Greek Town. Had a great walk and then dinner outside....yes at Wahlbergs!!! Walked along the Riverside walkway and people watched!! Beautiful area a must see when there!!!

Gorgeous views! A serene part of the city. I enjoyed walking the river walk. Many fisherman were on the river while I was there.

Beautiful day for a walk. The view is splendid and enjoyable with my sweetheart. Love the view of Ambassador Bridge and Canada.
Went into REN CEN to see some GM display vehicles and onward to the People Mover for a ride to Greektown.

The Detroit riverfront is a favorite destination of ours! Living just 30 minutes away, we enjoy walking along the Detroit River on a beautiful day and so come down several times across the year. On this late summer day, we walked from the state park over to Cullen Plaza and a bit more westward. We checked out some public art installations. We sat on a bench to watch a downbound freighter pass by. We leaned on the railing watching the sunlight play on the water. We walked through the marshlands park. There is free parking near Cullen Plaza where a cafe and public restrooms can be found. Of course, the current riverfront has about 5 walkable miles end to end. We stayed about an hour, but certainly since it is free to walk the Riverwalk and it is open all day long 6am-10pm. So each visit can be a different experience depending on the time of year and the time of day. A visit during the winter months is as interesting and beautiful as a visit during any other season. Check the calendar for scheduled events such as the 313 Festival, Shimmer on the River, and Harvest Festival.

It gets better and better! The kids have fun in the water play area and carousel. The free summer concerts are a lot of fun. It is a joy to walk along the river on a beautiful day and dogs are welcome!

It really warms one's heart to see that Detroit is having such great improvements and that the riverfront area is developing to a beautiful area for recreation.

The walk is just great. Walk the immediate area or take in a huge long hike. One can see quite far upriver to Belle Isle, and downriver, of course, as well. And across to Windsor and lots of bright lights. Lots of exciting restaurants nearby too.

Great to rent bikes and bike through the little parks and beautiful views!
You can see Ontario Canada slong the river front in the other side, very cool!

Detroit is coming back strong and the river walk was part of a fun trip... great museums, best bookstore in the midwest at John King's, fun restaurants. The river walk is a great time with restaurants, music along the way... part of the new Detroit. Happy to see the city surprise me.

We had a lovely time walking along the riverfront today. I was especially taken by all the flowers in bloom everywhere we looked and the wetlands and meadow areas were delightful. I had checked the internet to see if public restrooms were readily available and had not found an answer, so I wanted to write a review to let others know that there are several clean, well maintained public restrooms with drinking fountains available.

Even though it was a hot, sunny and humid day, the cool breezes made for a relaxing walk along the river front. We parked for free on Atwater and then walked towards downtown. There are lots of spots to stop and relax.

My wife and I rode the Diamond Queen ferry around the Detroit River with a tour guide explaining all of sights along the shoreline. What an historic experience.

There are several sculptures around this area and a river boat. Despite the winter weather, there were many visitors and a couple of runners. Very relaxing.

The river walk is very pretty and nice. The atmosphere is great and it is very relaxing strolling along the river. A nice family outing!
Brilliant for children and cycling
we were so pleasantly surprised to see this hidden gem. been to Detroit many times never knew about this place. Brilliant facility of cycle hire for $8 only. bad news no toilet no icecream or food vendors outside.only Inside and as like every tourist spot very very expensive
