Worth the stop. Had some great chuckles.

By CindyLou2262 |

This was a highlight of our trip, it was worth the stop... We spent about a hour there walking around talking to people. The people that work at the visitor center were super nice.

Great place to start for things to do in the FM area

By juliefB3930FE |

As an area Realtor, the FM Visitors is my go to place to get information for anyone new moving to the area. They carry every publication from downtown walking and bike paths to all the area park information, night life , dining options and entertainment spots

Fun and quick stop

By irisarbor |

Made a quick stop here to check out the famous wood chipper from the movie Fargo. Cute and nicely presented. I’m sure there was more stuff inside but we were tight on time

Information Center

By Brooke F |

If you want travel advice, this staff has your back. The woodchipper from the movie Fargo is there to take pictures with - complete with fake leg. There are also copies of the screenplay, as well as other Fargo movie memorabilia. Take advantage of their clean restrooms too.

Visitor center is interestng.

By Linda F |

Staff was very nice, but town was not easy to negotiate. We used the map provided and drove up and down Main St. twice to no avail. We just got back on 94 and drove on down the road. I guess if you are staying in a hotel in the area it might work, but not if you have an RV.

Nice Visitors Center

By Rick H |

The visitors center offers basic tourist information and exhibits a few dinosaur bones, teeth and tusks that were found in ND.

They also have on exhibit the wood chipper from the movie Fargo.

Not sure I understand why this is the # 1 thing to do in Fargo.

Visit Fargo welcome center

By Mike13-Chicago |

Super friendly people, both people who work there or locals stopping in for a visit. Worth the visit.

# 1 on our list

By Bear H |

OK, when you think of FARGO what pops into your mind? The movie! A great movie and of course the wood-chipper scene was most memorable! So, we had to go and see the movie prop. And there it is in all its glory. Nice visitors center, very friendly staff, some souvenirs and lots of info on the area. Well worth a visit and close tot he interstate. Done miss it!

Cool, but...

By Donna N |

If you're looking for the kind of attraction that will entertain for hours, this is NOT it. The other reviews on this site are accurate - friendly people working there, fun things to look at, even fresh popcorn as you gaze upon the autographed corpse disposal unit from the iconic movie.

I definitely recommend a stop at this spot, but unless you're a geocacher, the whole kit and caboodle can be experienced in a relaxing 30 minutes.

If you're there in the fall, the tree outside the front door is a lovely photo spot!

Best visitor center in the country

By Luv-that-farm |

We visited the welcome center since ND was our 50th state. We got our certificate, sticker and t-shirt as a gift. We signed our names in a book and took photos with the sign. The staff working here are super friendly and they're excited for you!

The building was very clean and well taken care of. Restrooms were clean. There's a lot of props from the movie to see. They have a little gift shop as well. Lots of information about the city and surrounding area. Very knowledgeable staff. There's a ND welcome sign outside in the parking lot. So glad ND was our final state, this was such an awesome experience!

Must stop here first

By Pat T |

This is the best visitor center I have ever seen. Free popcorn and personalized information await you. Comfortable place to sit and plan your vacation.

great visitors center

By roseA |

lots of info about both ND/MN. great guides to restaurants and must see events. If you are checking off ND as the last of 50 states, you get a t-shirt and your photo taken as saving the best for last

Fun visit

By Gretchen B |

We came to see the wood chipper from the movie Fargo and it did not disappoint. Fun and kitschy and the woman working was skilled at taking photos for all the tourists. As a bonus North Dakota was my 50th state visited and they roll out the red carpet for you. I got a certificate, t-shirt, pin and magnet along with my picture for their website. My husband was sad that it was only state 49 for him. But he was placated by the fresh popcorn. As an extra bonus, the woman working brought her 8 week old kitten to work and she was a friendly fur ball of cuteness.
There is a walk of fame outside which was cool but some of the sites haven't held up well. Also outside is the stunt double wood chipper so that was fun too.

Nice Little Stop

By Jason Hennig |

It's a nice stop--unfortunately for me, I haven't actually seen Fargo, so I think the rest of my group enjoyed the wood chipper more. Even so, it was a nice little stop for fifteenish minutes to look at the walk of fame.

Quirky fun tourist site

By JHeskin |

This is a quirky fun tourist attraction. The real wood chipper from the movie, “Fargo” is inside the visitor center and a “stunt double” is outside. It’s all free to see. There’s also an interesting “Walk Of Fame” with concrete imprints of various famous people. Easy free parking. Very helpful staff in the Visitor Center. Souvenirs are reasonably priced.

Worth the stop!

By jas326 |

Great place to stop! The staff is super helpful, lots of great resources, and a couple of good photo ops! If you are checking off your 50th state by visiting ND, then ask to join the best state for last club and get your free t-shirt.

Very nice visitor center

By Linda D |

Informative and friendly folks. The celebrity walk of fame s just outside. We spotted our first bison here.

Friendly people

By revG777 |

My wife and I were in the area for the taping of the Antiques Roadshow. Our hotel was right next to the Visitors Center so we stopped in. The people working there were very friendly and helpful. There is a nice Walk of Fame outside the building with hand and footprints of many famous people. And, of course, you can't miss the woodchipper.

Longer operating hours during summer traveling needed

By Melissa A |

The hours are 9-4 CST. There are no outdoor bathrooms. Our trip started in the western part of ND in mountain time. We missed this experience by 15 minutes.

Too much fun!

By Pixelpanderer |

I love a town that doesn't take itself too seriously. Fargo has the wood shredder from the movie Fargo close to the front door. For me, walking into a visitors center with a big smile on my face is a real plus. Make sure to check the hours when it is open before you go there.

The best!

By RetiredMilitary |

First trip to Fargo and North Dakota, saving the best for last. Heard about the Best for Last Club, and stopped in to join. Got the tee shirt, the photo, the certificate, and experienced the absolutely friendliest folks. Must visit this place if you are headed to Fargo!

Most fun visitors center!

By MaDonna S |

Gotta pull over and see the wood chipper... and the walk of fame! We loved having the actual wood chipper in a picture from our travels to Fargo.. Young gal working there was knowledgeable and very helpful

Worth a Visit! See THE Woodchipper!

By Pollyannaiam |

Nice visitor center with friendly, helpful staff! They have a fun display featuring the movie FARGO. There is a small gift shop with Fargo and Morehead souvenirs. Definitely worth a look.

Worth the trip

By elizabethli2017 |

My husband's goal has been to travel to all 50 states. North Dakota is the last one. After a long trek, we went to the Fargo-Moorhead Visitors Center on our way out of town. After telling the guide the purpose of our journey, they rewarded my husband with a t-shirt, magnet, pin and certificate welcoming him to the Save the Best for Last club. It was corny and awesome and well worth the trip!

VERY HELPFUL

By David B |

The receptionist was excellant - very friendly / very helpful. She even took a photo of my wife and I by the 'Fargo Woodchipper' for us.
Local knowledge was good and directions superb.
Thank you.

Great place to stop, easy to find

By Peter R |

Stopped in to see the Visitors Center after researching it on Trip Advisor. We even watched the movie Fargo, before leaving home, so we could hardly wait to see the iconic wood chipper. The center is easy to find off the Interstate and is loaded with brochures, etc. There is lots of parking and do not miss the "walk of Fame" in front of the visitors center (surrounding the grassy area). It is sad that a few of the concrete pads are cracked up and hard to read. Other than that, it is a nice place to stretch your legs, get some pictures and talk to the friendly, informed staff. Definitely worth your while to check out. The bathroom facilities are nice and clean and it is wheelchair accessible.

friendly staff

By flyingtraveling24-7 |

staff is knowledgeable and informative and they sell souvenirs and have free popcorn and the walk of fame right outside the building is worth taking a look at

You betcha!

By Linda D |

Cute and worth the stop. In addition to the hysterical wood chipper, there are hundreds of pamphlets and information on area Attractions. The girl working was chipper ;-) and genuinely seemed proud to be from the area.

Freshly Popped Popcorn

By GrammarCopTennessee |

We've been to a lot of visitors centers, but this is the only one that had freshly popped popcorn for us to enjoy. What a delightful treat for us! The two friendly, nice young ladies (Kara and Rachel) were very helpful and answered all our questions. They even provided props (hats) for us to have our picture made with the wood chipper from the movie Fargo. If you are a fan of that movie, you must stop here. We were glad we did!

Helpful visitor center and only place in US to join "the Best for Last Club"

By bigboy61455 |

After getting our rental care, we went to Fargo-Moorhead Visitors Center to collect T shirt for my “last state” -the 50th state and join the Best for Last Club. This is a nice free program from Fargo to attract more visitors to North Dakota.

Consider to go last to North Dakota to join the club.

Inside the visitor center, you can see memorabilia and Woodchipper scene from award winning 1996 film, Fargo. It was about a serial killer and the cop with a lot of bloody scene. For some reason, story-line is so moving. Later, there are more murder series on FX channel with the same name and they are also very successful.

There is also another woodchipper outside where you can take pictures of carrying your wife or kids to feed the woodchipper.

A must stop

By Marilyn K |

Lovely staff and lots of information. They have the woodchipper from the movie FARGO there and there are the footprints of many famous people on a walk outside the center.

Visit the wood chipper

By stasee000 |

This is worth a stop. The staff is friendly and helpful. You can get your photo opp by the wood chipper.

Several Steps Above Most Visitors' Centers

By BBDY |

The staff here is a good part of the story. Very helpful and friendly. The displays are top notch. For example, there is a great display on the dinosaur fossils of North Dakota. They even had coffee set out for the visitors. The rest rooms were immaculate, too.

Very good, all the way around.

very nice customer service

By tlividini |

It was a few minutes before closing and they were terrific, let us in to see the wood chipper from Fargo movie and were very helpful.

We came to see the wood chipper!

By Cassandra C |

I needed to check off North Dakota from my 50-states list. We drove out to see the wood chipper from the movie Fargo. It's hilarious. You can take photos pushing a fake foot into it. It was clean. The staff was nice. Outside around the grassy plaza are foot/hand prints of famous celebrities. It was pretty interesting. We had a good time visiting.

Quick stop

By Carla W |

Stopped in hoping to find postcards of Fargo. Not much to offer in that regard...BUT...they had the wood chipper from the movie!! And lots of brochures about things to do in town and around the state.

Go for the woodchipper, stay for the popcorn

By mspups |

Other visitor centers could learn from Fargos. Besides the woodchipper from the movie Fargo in the lobby, they have free popcorn that tasted fresh and free coffee and some cool dinosaur exhibits. Very nice and friendly staff. Short hop off the highway. Thumbs up.

Visitors Center

By Nicole B |

Free visitors center with bathrooms, helpful staff, and local information. Picnic tables in a covered shelter outside. Multi-colored buffalo and a rather pitiful Walk of Fame outside.

Visitor center

By JohnGunther |

We got all our questions answered by the staff and when they found out that we were ziplining in all 50 states it put a smile on their faces

The wood chipper

By scottidog36 |

Very interesting, lots of info about the area. The walk of fame outside is pretty cool too. I sure you will see familiar names.

A must stop

By Rachel P |

I have been to Fargo before and did not go here. Big mistake. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. They took the time to look up restaurant menus because I asked for a place that serves vegetarian. They also have free popcorn, gift shop, and the chipper from the movie Fargo. Have a question? The friendly staff will help.

Glad we stopped!

By deebug2470 |

We stopped here to see the famous wood chipper as we were passing through. They had one replica outside as well as the walk of fame where celebrities have left hand prints. Inside is where the real wood chipper is located. They also have restrooms and a small gift shop. The staff was also very helpful with area information.

Friendly helpful staff

By Cheryl D |

We stopped here to get a photo of the infamous 'wood chipper ' and ask a few questions. Ended up with an itinerary for the day and a pleasant surprise for my husband. We mentioned that ND completed his visiting all 50 states. He received a t-shirt, a certificate and pin and had his photo taken for the web page. All the information given was helpful and made for a great day. Later that evening as we were walking back to our hotel from dinner in downtown Fargo we ran into the young man who had helped us plan our day. Fun! I must say the people in ND were very friendly everywhere we went.

Great experience

By nycvegas0512 |

When we walked in my friend told the kids at the desk that ND was my last state to visit and I've visited all 50 states. They said, really? We have a club for that!
They took my picture, gave me a t-shirt, a patch, and are putting me in their newsletter next month. Nice people. FARGO movie memorabilia and woodchipper!
HA HA Free popcorn!

A fun spot to get information

By MickyO |

The visitors center houses a ton of informational booklets and brochures. The staff members are so friendly and knowledgeable. We had to take a picture with the wood chipper! There is a copy of the Fargo movie script and the wood chipper scene script as well. They embrace their fame!

Good place for info

By Bowmanator22 |

This a basically a very nice visitors center. Don't go expecting too much. The staff was very helpful in pointing out local tourist attractions, and they have a number of brochures you can take. Happy to have stopped by.

Be sure to stop here!

By TRVLBug58 |

In addition to the famous woodchipper (be sure to have your photo taken and they will also loan you a "hat") there is an interesting Walk of Fame outside that is worth a look. Helpful and friendly staff.

Woodchipper and info

By Bluemermaid25 |

I didn’t realize that the woodchipper from the movie “Fargo” is here. You can take your picture by it, with “lumberjack” hats provided! There are other artifacts from the movie, like an autographed screenplay. Mike (?) was helpful, giving us a map of Fargo, and showing us how to get to the downtown area. He even recommended restaurants for us.

Save North Dakota for Your 50th State – They Make it Special!

By Paul R |

The number 1 item on things to do in Fargo ND is to go to the visitors center. We normally look to Trip Advisor for things to do.

What we found there is North Dakota has a fantastic club called the “Saved the best for last” club. If you are trying to see all 50 states and you can save North Dakota for the last, it is worth the effort. What a WOW moment for us! We walked into the Fargo welcome center and were bowled over. One of our “bucket list” items was to see all 50 U. S. States. North Dakota just happened to be the last state. Wasn’t planned that way, just happened that way. They make it special with a “Saved the Best for Last” Club and celebrate it by giving out a certificate, t-shirt, and even took a picture! They made our day!

Amazing Experience

By jagbookworm |

North Dakota was our 50th state. When we crossed over from Minnesota there was no where to take a picture. We were very disappointed to say the least until Fargo Air Museum sent us to the visitors center. It made our whole trip. We are now in the "Saved the Best to Last Club". The wonderful workers took our picture, gave us certificates, and gave us free t-shirts.

Unique and helpful

By Taylor B |

Staff was super helpful and gave us a guide for folks who had just moved to Fargo. Had lots of info for Fargo and the surrounding area. Would highly recommend if you're new in town or just passing through!

Fun place for Fargo fans

By Jennifer Q |

If you are a fan of the movie or the FX series Fargo then this is a fun stop on your road trip. The wood chipper is signed by the Coen brothers and they have really cool movie props showcased. I bought a wood chipper magnet and Christmas gift ornament in the gift shop. The visit was about a 20 min activity.

Fantastic Place and Great People

By Anne J |

We were in Fargo for less than a day but our time there was the highlight of our trip. The visitor center was a great time and everyone there was so kind and friendly. We took photos with the wood chipper and a worker was explaining it to people that were not familiar with the movie. They also have hats that are similar to those worn in the movie that you can wear for your photo opt. The small gift shop was well stocked and we found a magnet to buy. They also have complimentary coffee and popcorn. We were very happy that we stopped and would recommend it as a must do.

info needed

By Power |

I just wanted to see what was going on in the area and as it is clsoe to work stopped on night. It was wonderful. Full of information and ideas

Quick Stop at Visitor's Center

By SGLA2017 |

Stopped by this visitor center to mainly look at the wood chipper from the movie Fargo
It was nice inside well maintained and friendly staff

Photo op with North Dakota sign

By Michelle |

We were a little disappointed that the sign for North Dakota was in the middle of the road so we couldn't stop to get a picture with our 50th state. Luckily we continued down the road another 5 miles and found this visitors center with the perfect photo op! The building was closed but we got the photo we were looking for and a fun artsy bison too!

Tons of Info here!

By Alice |

The Chipper from Fargo is here!! Great photo op and the staff are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. So glad we stopped for the chipper!

Fun Roadside stop

By mrt1955 |

Pulled in here and got a real treat. They have some kitschy stuff like the chipper from the movie Fargo and then also a sidewalk with celebrity name and handprints and footprints.

Great place to take a break and enjoy some fun stuff.

Boring!

By CBR0107 |

I saw no significance in visiting this place. We went on a Saturday morning and there was absolutely nothing going on and I did not learn anything about Fargo. We were in and out in about 7 minutes.

Best for Last

By NBTtrvler |

Joined the Best for Last club, crossing off North Dakota as my 50th state! They provide a commemorative certificate and tshirt. Sign to take your photo with. Staff was so kind! Coffee was excellent.

Everything in one place!

By Molly L |

This is quite the visitors center- you can see an original signed script from the movie “Fargo” and the infamous “wood chipper”. Outside you can take the Fargo walk of fame and see hand and footprints for everyone from Tiny Tim to George W Bush. Worth the stop!

Great Customer Service and Pictures with "the" Wood Chipper

By LA_Atlanta |

The staff was very friendly and helpful and it's great fun to put on one of the caps they have and take pictures with the wood chipper from the movie "Fargo".

Quick Stop

By Cryptic_Tourist |

My husband and I came here for a quick stop to see the fun Fargo memorabilia and grab some souvenirs. They have magnets, mugs, T-shirt’s, and sweaters/hoodies available for purchase. The employees here are also super friendly :)!

Small but fun place with a Helpful Staff

By 2mnytls |

We were barely in the door when one of the young women working at the visitor center jumped up and asked if we wanted her to take pictures of us with the wood chipper, then informed us that they had props to go with it. She came bouncing across the visitor center waving hats in each hand.

They were extremely helpful in getting us oriented to the area finding a local (non-chain) restaurant.

Nice Visitor's Center

By luvtravel88 |

We stopped in this Visitor's Center mainly to see the woodchipper that was used in the movie Fargo, but we found a lot of good information there about the area and the people working there were very nice and helpful.
It was a nice place to stop for a few minutes.

The prime attraction here is the woodchipper used in the 1996 black comedy crime film

By Mark H |

The prime attraction here is the woodchipper used in the 1996 black comedy crime film written, directed, produced and edited by Joel and Ethan Coen.

Of course, being a hub for visitor information, there is someone there who can give you tips about the area after taking your photo with the machine.

"I guess that was your accomplice in the woodchopper" -- France McDormand's famous line.

Best visitor center ever

By Sherry M |

Traveling through Fargo and wanted a little something to do so we stopped at the visitor center due to the positive reviews I read on TripAdvisor. Wow! We were not disappointed. The staff is so so friendly. The minute we walked in we were greeted and asked if we wanted our picture taken by the “Fargo” wood-chipper. We were even given some Fargo hats to wear. Then we were asked if Fargo was our last state to visit. Yes! Well out comes a Saved the Best for Last tee shirt and a certificate along with our pic being taken for the website. Afterwards we received a great recommendation for some local food. Loved our visit.

Nice stop

By MountainSunSea |

Worth the stop if you've never been to Fargo. Cute, kitschy gifts plus free popcorn and coffee. There is a lot of local and regional information available, and a few fun things to see. Picnic tables on the lawn too.

Way Better than Expected!

By 3inthefamily203 |

Super friendly staff, ready to help answer questions and/or provide funny hats to wear as they take your photo with the wood chipper from the movie Fargo! You also get a certificate if North Dakota is your final 50th state visited. Some nice merch for sale, clean bathrooms and free popcorn!

Unique visitor and friendly help

By jeff77664 |

Made a quick stop there to get some travel information and also take a picture of Fargo wood-chooper. A version of the wood-chooper is inside and you can take pictures with it. There was plenty of brochures and the front desk people were friendly. Worth of quick stop if you need info or want a picture.

The actual wood chipper from the film

By Rose P |

I stopped in to see the famous wood chipper and pick up a post card. The enthusiasm of the team there was infectious. They eagerly offered to photograph visitors and share local suggestions. Having run the half marathon as a character from the film that morning I still had my costume in the car. Based on her excitement I was compelled to put it back on and act out the scene with a random stranger. She even brought out the fur hat as the icing on the cake. Clearly these folks love their town. Ya, you betcha!

Great Visitor's Center!! Do Stop!

By Pamela K |

This Visitor's Center is absolutely excellent. It provides helpful information about North Dakota, and Fargo-Moorhead specifically, but also represents the bison, and history that makes the area famous. The stones in the walkway commemorate famous visitors to Fargo.

North Dakota Flavor

By DonaldJMcDonald |

The Visitor center does a great job of capturing the highlights around the Fargo-Moorhead area. A photo op of a wood chipper and a sculpted bison. I love the building style as it captures the rural flavor in ND.

Great place for ideas

By Melissa O |

This should be your first stop when you travel to the area. They have wonderful guide books full of local attractions, food/drink options, shopping, tours and coupons. The visitor's guide coupons saved us at least $50 on food, drink and local attractions. The staff was really nice and gave us a ton of really good ideas. I was pleasantly surprised at all the things to do in the area. (Ask about the pinball pass. Really fun and unique experience.)

The celebrity walk of fame is cool

By Gabe |

The wood chipper from the movie Fargo is here. Also a cool celebrity walk of fame with concrete hand prints and signatures from Stevie Ray Vaughn, Metallica, Kiss, Neil Diamond, Debbie Reynolds, Bill Gates, George W Bush, Jesse Ventura, etc

Closed when we stopped by, but still a neat stop

By Milwaukeetraveler-dj |

The colorful buffalo is much smaller in person than we expected, but still fun.
There's also a chipper from the movie Fargo, and a walk of fame with hand prints from famous visitors.

First Stop in Fargo

By CRAIG C |

Nice visitors center, even if you haven’t seen the movie “Fargo”. It’s definitely worth stopping at before venturing around the area for tips and maps.

Absolute must in Fargo

By Jan OR |

The Fargo/Moorhead Visitor's Center in Fargo is an absolute must to visit when around. They have the original wood chipper and other memorabilia from the movie Fargo. Even though the movie wasn't actually filmed in Fargo it gave it it's name. Lot of other information about the area and friendly service too.

Went to see the wood chipper from movie Fargo

By Christina D |

Wonderful center. Great interactive board so that you can easily find what you are looking for. Young girl at the counter was very helpful and friendly. Nice stop.

I was born in Fargo but had never visited here until this year

By Jill W |

I was back in North Dakota to visit family, and this was just down the street from my hotel. So, I walked over here one afternoon.

The 2 clerks inside were very friendly and helpful. There was a huge array of booklets, maps, and information about anything you wanted to know about Fargo and the surrounding area. For example, if you wanted a beer tour, a wine tour, a wildlife tour, they had information booklets to help you plan your vacation around that theme.

There was also a small array of T-shirts, caps, postcards and such. Of course, I had to buy a T-shirt : )

My brother's wife wanted a picture of the wood chipper

By bruceandjoe |

It was a blast. They give you a dorky lumberjack hat to wear in your photographs. Everyone is warm and friendly.

Best for Last Club!!!

By Jennifer L |

This place was full of surprises!! I mainly went to go see the Wood Chipper from Fargo .. but what I encountered were two of the most friendly young guys manning the center - a great first impression!
And to top it all off I soon discovered they have a “Best for Last” club .. if North Dakota is your 50th state visited (which it was for me) - they make it a celebration complete with free t-shirt (great quality!) and other fun giveaways. I got to sign their special “50 state” club book.. and got my picture taken for the website.
The whole center is so clean and friendly - they even give away bags of popcorn! And have great Fargo merchandise.
A true highlight of my road trip! Thank you!

Nice stop with lots of info

By Diana R |

Helpful staff with so many suggestions we fully utilized. Had lunch at their pavilion outside and were happy for the nice stop!

Beer Passport & Beer Coupons

By LifeAtlasTravel |

Stop in for local information and be sure to grab your beer passport and take the challenge of visiting all the local breweries! There are quite a few buy one get one pint coupons in the Fargo information book.

Bison and Handprints make this an interesting stop

By Anne T |

And don't forget the wood chipper that made Fargo Famous! A great place to stop for info on the area and check out 3 novelties: a painted bison, the wood chipper and the handprints of a wide variety of celebrities and interesting people who have visited Fargo over the years. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Picnic and neat stop

By Grussingtravels |

This is a great location for a picnic. They have many different places to chose to eat. Then head inside to get your picture with the wood chipper, get maps, information, water and restrooms. They have lots of cool photos and items from the movie Fargo to look at. Definitely worth a stop.

50th State

By dicryan |

ND was our 50th State and it was a complete surprise they were ready to help us celebrate! We’re glad we saved North Dakota for last and we’re glad we stopped in Fargo.

Neat little visitor center for Fargo-Moorhead.

By Count_Blah |

The Fargo-Moorhead Visitors Center is a neat little area to gain knowledge of the Fargo, ND - Moorhead, MN general area, as well as things to do and events as well. Nothing super special, but definitely a good stop for those that are new to the area.

Great first stop

By Rachel M |

Fun little place to stop to get more information about the town and state. They had a nice variety of maps and suggestions of things to do in North Dakota. Great first stop coming into the state!

Class Reunion

By Pam2328 |

The Fargo Moorhead Visitors center is great place to visit. They are knowledgeable about everything from hotels, restaurants, events happening, and where everything is in the area. Helpful and friendly. I was able to get lanyards for free for our class reunion. Nice unique building styled like a grain elevator.

Educational

By aspenfan2015 |

Nice, staff was very helpful in providing information. Definitely a nice place to stop to learn about the area. Beautiful grounds, ample parking! Easy access from interstate and local area. Plenty of space to stretch you legs or for kids to run off some energy.

Highly recommend.

By Robb F |

Audra who was working there at the time of my visit was so helpful, friendly and informative. Learned so much about the area from her. Unique place to visit, with a gift shop and exhibits relating to the movie, Fargo. On display is the actual garden shredder from the movie with a human foot sticking out! Another cool thing is you can select and write a post card and they will send it for free. Outside is a Walk of Fame featuring some of the rich and famous who have visited the city. Well worth a visit, and just off I-94 so easy access.
PS the kids on my school bus loved the coloring books and crayons you kindly gave me, kept them entertained the entire journey home!

The best visitor center ever!

By Travel_The_World_Jia |

They are the most friendly visitor center that I have ever been to. The lady there welcomed me with coffee and popcorn. Since this is my 50th state, she also gave me a certificate, a t-shirt and a photo. She also gave me tips on the nearby attractions and restaurants. It was the highlight for me in ND!

great info

By firebear1961 |

You should plan on coming here once you arrive in Fargo, they have a lot of good info and will help you find what you are looking to do and eat.

- one Star for lack of knowledge

By funtobeme |

The Visitor Center building is huge wood structure ~4 stories tall, it is supposed to be representative of the grain structures across the state. Only a small sliver of it is actually accessible by visitors though. In the area where you are let in, resides the wood chipper from the movie Fargo. Self-ie opportunity here. The rest of the tiny footprint of area is populated with pamphlets of the area’s lodging, restaurants, etc – … In looking for actual area attractions, I saw one called the Comstock House, which was in Moorhead. My familiarity with Comstock was the Comstock Lode in NV. So I asked the Visitor Center Travel Ambassador if this was the same Comstock and related to the Comstock Lode from NV. She said yes. I’m not an expert, but I do remember Comstock got rich, and then died broke. But I wasn’t an expert on Comstock and I didn’t thoroughly review the pamphlet either. I’d review more thoroughly later and then go to the Comstock House with a history refresh. Well after I took a closer look, the Comstock House in Moorhead, MN is about a local politician and has absolutely nothing to do with the Comstock Lode from NV. For a Travel Ambassador at a Visitor Center to not know something that’s basic high school history and/or the detail of an attraction that is prominently displayed in the Visitor Center they’re working in says something …. So I take a star away.

There’s a Walk-of –Fame too here. It is supposed to be authentic, but that was from the same person who told me Comstock was related to the Comstock Lode. So…

If in the area, it is worth a 30min stop to stretch and take a picture.

A Great Place to Visit for your 50th State!

By Mary Jean |

A very nice visitors center. Easy to find. Lots of good information about Fargo and all of North Dakota for your road trip adventure. Staff is very friendly and helpful and full of tips to make your vacation very enjoyable. Souvenirs of all kinds to commemorate your North Dakota adventure.

Interesting

By Nicole G |

This is a cute little visitor's center and especially interesting if you're a fan of the movie Fargo. There are some props and good photo opportunities related to it. It's super clean and the staff was friendly and happy to answer any questions.

What a day brightener!

By janniebabe1 |

The lady behind the desk at the visitors center really knows the city and the things to do - was most helpful! We joined the "Saved the best to last' club and she took our picture and was able to give us all kinds of information of what to do while there.

Nice place

By aspoe093 |

Went here to see all of what Fargo had to offer. The lady at the desk was very nice and knowledgeable. Had some cool Fargo memorabilia and gave me some great info for my trip.

A Special Place to Celebrate Visiting 50/50 States!

By Andy D |

Came here over Memorial Day Weekend 2025 and was welcomed with open arms to help celebrate my milestone of visiting all 50 states. What an absolute joy it was to be here. The folks working here were so kind, friendly, and helpful and gladly took all the photos I desired both inside and outside to help me celebrate this special milestone. I am so, so glad I made this special trip all the way from Macon, GA to be here.

Could not believe the certificate and Tshirt to join their "Best for Last Club" was all competely free. They also have a fabulous collection of postcards for $1 that they will mail out with free postage for you. Also, lots of neat souvenirs including a fabulous wood chipper magnet that you can purchase. The area just outside is filled with hidden treasures including the Fargo Walk of Fame. As a computer science teacher, I was thrilled to find Bill Gates' handprints in the cement. Never knew that Microsoft has a significant presence in Fargo, with its campus being the second largest outside of Redmond, WA.

Lots of fun places to grab lunch close by after your visit. The Visitors Center is just off the interstate, and easy to get to. I want the thank the staff here for making my very first trip to North Dakota so magical!

Well appointed Visitors Center

By Kuvasz1988 |

This center was staffed by a very friendly and engaging staff member. She was very helpful and asked good questions. The amount of information available is abundant and should get you on the right path for your visit. I am always looking for a state map and I was able to get one here.

One of the best visitor centers I've ever been to!!

By Raintree_Thailand |

The Visitor Center for Moorehead and Fargo is located in an old grain elevator (the building itself is very interesting). They have the typical array of brochures, maps and booklets and nice clean rest rooms. The special attraction though is the actual wood chipper from the unforgettable movie "Fargo". They also have a neat small exhibit of items from the movie filming. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Free popcorn and coffee. Local "Walk of Fame" in the sidewalk outside. All in all, one of the best visitor centers I've ever seen.

Must stop!

By jotirico |

We generally don't make it a practice to stop at visitor centers while we are travelling....try to do most of our research ahead of time, but this is a must do when in Fargo! The employees were super friendly, offering to take pictures of us with the chipper from the movie :-) My only regret is not acting like we were pushing the leg into the chipper! Just an all-around interesting stop!

MUST SEE in FARGO! Don't cha know!

By Colleen C |

We purposely drove to Fargo just to come here and see the the true woodchipper inside the visitor center (there's a "stunt double outside"). There was free parking and no fee to go in and even Free Popcorn! They also have the history of the movie right there. Very cute place and people very nice and informative.

Perfect Service

By mariovanleeuwen |

We were very happy with the service that we received. Very friendly young man that gave us perfect advice and very good recommendations. Visited some of the sites he had recommended and very happy with all of them.

Breakaway

By Julia K |

Good place to get information on your travels and for Fargo. Also the wood chipper from the movie is there so take a picture with it😊.Friendly staff to help you out.

Great for Info or a Break

By jr2017H2O |

This stop worked out well for us twice -- one on the way to Bismarck and the other when we returned.

While I wouldn't stop here just to see the infamous woodchipper it was fun to observe.

They have all the brochures you need for the surrounding area. Also postcards which can be hard to find these days and they will even put their stamp on them and mail for you! The staff was so pleasant. We always ask these locals what some of their favorite restaurants are and if we hear the same one a couple of times, that is where we try to eat.

Lots of parking, also good for just taking a break if you are passing through.

Super Friendly

By igneousc |

I had a 6-7 hour layover in fargo and needed to find something to do, so I took an uber to this visitors center to check out the Fargo wood chipper. The staff was super friendly, and took pictures for me. A nice little quick stop.

Friendly people

By Jessica F |

It was fun to visit a visitors center that was more than aisles of pamphlets. Good layout, friendly staff. ND was our 50th state. They took our picture, gave us some awesome (really soft) t-shirts, and some recommendations for things to do.

Mission Accomplished!

By bryonia2015 |

Arriving in Fargo North Dakota and heading for the Fargo-Moorhead Visitors Centre, it looked like everything in Fargo looked like it had been built yesterday. We parked outside the rather fabulous Visitors Centre, which houses the WORLD FAMOUS Woodchipper, used by the Coen Bros in the movie FARGO. Years ago someone had the presence of mind to secure the film props from an as yet unknown movie as a Tourist Attraction for the Centre. Roadside America helpfully tell us it is a "Yard Shark with an 8-horse power Briggs and Stratton engine" Well there you go, a Briggs and Stratton never lets you down, We met Jayne, who has greeted visitors at the desk here for 10 years, who helpfully lent us our headgear and manned the camera to take our photo with the original woodchipper, SIGNED by the COEN BROTHERS!! That would have to be a highlight of anyone's trip really! After spending an hilarious half hour with Janice, (learning about Fargo, taking photos, talking about our Aussie Cane Toads, Crocodile Dundee and other important worldly matter things) we went outside to the lawns for more photos with yet another Woodchipper (this one without a leg) as well as the equally famous coloured Bison. Thanks Janice, we had a ball.

My mother went here but she dropped it

By thian2015 |

What is this for? Its confusing. The other day we went to the park and we got lost. We were found 3 days later by a lady walking her dog. We thanked her and we went on our way,

Home to the infamous woodchipper from Fargo

By Leza H |

Being English it was great to hear the North Dakota accent we heard in the Fargo film and tv series. The original woodchipper is inside the building and the stunt double is outside. Fargo is a very friendly town, especially I imagine as we’re British and we were a novelty. Locals couldn’t believe we were in town and everyone was so welcoming, kind and helpful. A very pretty Main Street. We enjoyed our visit.

Wood chipper from Fargo

By V9865EOmichaels |

I am a big fan of the movie Fargo and at this visitors center was able to get pics with the infamous wood chipper. Also it was a good stopping point to stretch our legs. Visitors center staff was friendly and bathrooms were clean. Would have like to check out the outside but it was raining heavily.

See the Woodchipper!

By Jenifer S |

A must see in Fargo! Not only can you see the wood chipper with the little fella’s foot sticking out, but they will give you hats to wear and take your picture using the log to shove him down in there. Bought some fun souvenirs too. The staff was super.

Lots of information

By Carlene |

Stopped in here for a picture with the wood chipper, and left with tons of information on tourist sights in the area. Not only did the staff at the center give us ideas, along with directions to the attractions on a city map, but a local resident offered us more ideas and directions before we made it out the door. Make sure you pick up the beer passport if you plan on visiting the breweries.

Excellent

By Agus A |

The place offers plenty objects for taking pics: North Dakota welcome sign, colorful buffalo statue, wood shredder, etc. Also, you can get plenty of information pertain to Fargo and North Dakota.

Very good place to start your trip to Fargo and the surrounding area

By ljshewmake |

Fun place to visit. Yes, lots of brochures but some very interesting information. Employees were very nice and helpful. Also, you can get a fabulous picture with the actual "wood chipper" used in the movie Fargo. It helps to see the movie first !

Take the time and visit

By shiftchick |

Great information and helpful workers. Fun tshirts and photo for visiting the 50th state. Fun chipper shredder from the movie and lots of fun stories.

Nice quick stop

By Kristi B |

We made a quick stop here to get a picture with the wood chipper. Would like to come back to do some geocaching and more. The staff was helpful. Picnic tables on site.

Fun fun fun!!!

By love2travel49022 |

The wood chipper!!! Get your photo taken by the smiling friendly staff person. Moni was on duty and an expert photographer! We are still laughing about the whole experience. If ND is your 50th state to visit, they have that background too. Loads of local tourist info. Make this your first stop in visiting F-M area.

A must-stop if it is your 50th state!

By rachel |

This is a wonderful, clean visitor’s center with interesting landmarks and extremely helpful staff! If ND is your last state to visit, make sure to mention to the staff that it is your 50th! They gift you free t-shirts, certificates, and stickers to welcome you to the “Best For Last Club.” Inside you can find iconic props from the “Fargo” film, and outside you can see a line of concrete with hand/footprints of the stars who have visited Fargo (as well as a ND sign and bison statue)! Don’t miss it!

Trip West

By Daniel W |

The 2 people helping me were very good and informative .It was worth the stop. They reminded about the Sunday noon openings in North Dakota.

Woodchipper photo op

By Kate Illinois1 |

We arrived on a busy morning. The people working were very engaged with visitors. We wandered around the gift shop and took our picture by the Woodchipper from the movie. Did not realize until today they could provide hat props for your pic. We passed more time outside reading the celebrity walk and more photos of another woodchipper. Returned to the gift shop to find the employees still with the same people. We left and did our searches on the internet. Ample parking and clean restrooms. Easily found from the interstate.

Woodchipper!

By Ingrid J |

Stopped to see the original wood-chipper from the movie. Did not expect to see so much movie memorabilia on hand! Staff was very nice and gave great information for our drive across ND.

Friendly staff

By JS1 |

We stopped by and were shocked to see a VW event going on. We were worried the things we wanted to see wouldn’t e available. We were wrong! The very friendly staff answered our questions about why ND is usually the last state people visit. They pointed out the walk of fame and got us a map so we could find the ones we wanted. The car show ended up not being on the way at all! Fun little visit to Fargo!

Fun and friendly

By livingonwheels |

We stopped in to see the woodchipper and we were pleased to find the staff friendly and informative.

Small visitor centre, friendly staff

By BigMerk |

I was intrigued by the high rating this place received on TripAdviser and, as it was a few minutes from my hotel, I paid a visit.

There is a big coloured buffalo statue and a series of signed paving stones outside (some famous name there). The visitor centre is a tall building but inside it’s a desk and information leaflets. What makes it very good is the staff. The young guy at the desk was very friendly and helpful, and gave me some restaurant recommendations as well as suggesting places to go.

A top-notch tourist information center

By chiangmaicharlies |

A well located large building with nice lawns outside.

Very helpful staff with a wealth of information at hand.

Outside is memorabilia from the FARGO movie - together with a surprising collection of celebrity plaques from visitors to Fargo.

Shouldn't be missed.

Good Travel Information Center

By Douglas O |

Very helpful folks to help us plan a couple days in the Fargo area. The had loads of maps and brochures and spent time asking what we were interested in and helping us plan.

Here to help

By rsstarkey63 |

We stopped to get directions to some of the attractions. The gentleman that helped us was friendly and helpful. He even drew us a map to all the places we wanted to see.

The woodchipper .....

By Lydia C |

Although the Visitor's Center itself was closed I was able to ooh and aah over the Stunt Double of the Famed Fargo Wood chipper to my heart's content. And take lots of photos! And buy souvenirs at the truck stop across the street. I love Fargo!

Best for last club

By Edward S |

Visitor Center staff extremely helpful, friendly and welcoming. If it weren't for the 'Best for Last Club' celebration, I would be sorry I didn't get to North Dakota earlier.

Wood chipper , a must see!

By Marion G |

Very nice visitors centre, loved the wood chipper inside and iutside, the accessories they provide for photographs.

Welcome Center

By NemoTraveler |

The Fargo-Moorhead Welcome Center is located on 44th Street South, just off I-94 Westbound and with ample parking. Local maps and guides are available and we were met by a very friendly and knowledgeable team member, who gave us a warm welcome and some very good information on the area.

The Welcome Center also has the original woodchipper from the film, Fargo on show, making a great photo opportunity.

Good community asset

By Renaissanceman58102 |

Home of the wood chipper from the movie Fargo. The lead and help with many events such as Frostival.

A MUST see!

By Bkaymc |

We decided to visit ND, bc we had never been. We stopped over at the Visitor's Center, and I'm so glad we did. Outside is a replica of the woodchipper used in the movie, Fargo. And, inside is the real deal. Also, you'll find the original script and some other interesting things to look at. The staff was really friendly and excited that we had stopped in. They gave us a couple of silly hats to put on for a photo op. Lots of fun, so be sure to stop in.

Tops Among Visitor Centers

By NoKidsWillTravel |

Unique photogenic building, very friendly helpful staff, every brochure there is, souvenir shop, displays and of course, you have to see the wood chipper from Fargo, the movie and related movie memorabilia. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars is because its closed on Sundays. I don't understand continually coming across visitor centres that are closed on weekends when that's when most visitors are present.

unusual building

By Peter L |

I always drop in to visitor centres when I visit somewhere I have
never been before, might get a discount on meals or drinks. Young lady present was most helpful and of course you have to
have your picture taken next to the woodchipper.

Wood Chipper!

By Christy W |

If you've seen the movie Fargo, you might appreciate getting to dress up and have your photo made stuffing "limbs" into a wood chipper! They also have lots of memorabilia for sale, but the wood chipper experience is free. The staff were friendly and welcoming; they encouraged us to get in character, and one took our picture for us. Goofy? Maybe, but it was fun!

Pretty much the only place to get Fargo souvenirs

By Matthew C |

This is a place that very much is what it is. A tourist information stop with information about the local area. The staff were friendly and helpful. There are some souvenirs available for purchase, clothes, postcards, magnets, but selection is not massive. There is memorabilia from the movie Fargo including the original script an wood chipper. My biggest issue with it is that it is located pretty far out of town and is not realistically accessible without a car which feels odd for a Tourist Centre. But if you're passing through Fargo with a car it's not a bad place to stop for a bit.

Wood Chipper!

By Ron W |

A must see for the replica Wood Chipper from the movie FARGO... as well as the "Walk of Fame" from entertainers performing in Fargo!

Friendly staff, movie memorabilia

By Jane K |

Upon arriving, we had a laugh over the wood chipper on display outside the center. We were even more amused by the actual chipper from the movie Fargo on display inside along with other movie memorabilia. The center staff is friendly, and the travel information is abundant and well organized. This is a must-stop for fans of the movie Fargo.

Great place to start your Fargo-Moorhead vacation

By Bittersweet66 |

Excellent resource available, friendly people and the "wood chopper" from the movie "Fargo"---what more could you possibly want?

A must when in Fargo

By Pushinhornz |

We visited here while staying in Fargo. If you have ever seen the movie "Fargo" this is a must. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

A great place for information

By dawn b |

The building can be seen from the interstate. Once inside, there are a few very helpful people. We were on a mission to see all 50 states and this was our last. The young lady behind the counter was so gracious to step outside and help us take a picture by the welcome sign. We signed up for the Save the Best for Last club as well.

The ladies had helpful suggestion but otherwise, there isn't anything here, really.

By scott r |

Desk ladies directed me to Hjemkomst for which I am grateul - that was worthwhile. But otherwise this is a rest stop/pic snap. They did have a good sturdy wood chipper magnet, and I needed to visit something in ND (!) on the 50 state quest, so.....

Great place to get oriented

By 2ndWindTraveller |

Maps, brochures, and information are available. But the best part is the wood chipper that was used in the movie Fargo. What a riot to have our picture taken trying to stuff a leg into the chipper. The friendly staff will loan you plaid wool hats and take your picture for you! We loved it!

Fun free visit

By judy0612 |

Saw the movie many years ago and thought it would we a fun way to end our visit to Fargo. Very friendly staff, nice souvenirs to purchase, free popcorn. Great photo opportunity with wood chipper.

50th State

By Michael P |

I Have now been to all 50 States and 40 + Countries. The reception you receive from staff is unparalleled. The facility is top notch. If coming to Fargo this is a must visit

Made very welcome

By Karen L |

We visited on a very cold Grey day and were the only people in there, though a coach left as we arrived. The lady on duty was very friendly and gave us free popcorn which was delicious. She also, loaned us hats and took our photo at the woodchipper. We enjoyed the walk of fame too.

Nice visitor center!

By Carrie Z |

Cute visitor center! Has the real wood chipper from the movie Fargo inside, and the wood chipper’s stand-in outside. The visitor center sells tshirts, sweatshirts, stickers, magnets, and ornaments and has clean bathrooms.

The Woodchipper!!!

By empressellen |

This destination was on our cross-country trip just so we could see the woodchipper! There it is, in all it's glory! There's a plaque on it that the Coen Brothers signed. One of the ladies who works there produced hats with ear flaps for us to wear in our photo! I bought a couple of items to bring to my son who is a huge fan of the movie. Great start to our North Dakota experience!

Best for Last

By mizmcqueen |

Bagged my 50th state and it turns out it's a THING, here! A book to sign, a certificate and everything. Plus... The Woodchipper! A must for any fans of the Coen Bros.' "Fargo." Super friendly folks and an excellent array of memorabilia to buy.

Visitors welcome

By Pam T |

Small introduction to Fargo. .nice displays of little know facts. Assortment of Fargo trinkets. And brochures

Wonderful Woodchipper

By Mark O |

A great quick stop. If you are a fan of the movie then how could you possibly miss an opportunity to see the wood-chipper?

Besides the wood-chipper (a replica outside and the real one inside, complete with a foot), the staff was very friendly and helpful.

Couldn't ask for a better break to stretch your legs from a long drive and see part of an iconic movie.

So welcoming!

By MikeHinPHL |

What a lovely welcome the folks at the welcome center gave us. They were so kind. Apparently it is not unusual for tourists to arrive at the Welcome Center having achieved the distinction of visiting their 50th state! These folks have a “Saved the Best for Last” club and listened politely to our tales of getting there. This is a small center but has some interesting exhibits and a some nice gifts and postcards. Thank you.

Nice to learn more about Fargo

By wildhockeylife |

Right when we walked in the one staff was kind of demanding. But it was nice to learn about Fargo and we got a free flim of Fargo the movie.

Clean, closes early, a good place to stretch your legs.

By Tiffany T |

A 10 minute stop at most, especially if you’re not a fan of the movie. BUT the employees were quite helpful. We spent most of our time trying to decipher the writing on the walk of fame.

The wood chipper

By 50statesorbreak |

Visited just to see the wood chipper from the movie. It's a small center but does offer a lot of brochures for surrounding area. A few souvenirs are sold here and everyone that works there is friendly.

Stop by before you head into Fargo.

By Sandy G |

Very interesting place, and there is the original wood chipper used in the movie "Fargo". There's also a "walk of stars" there. The people are friendly and very informative. There's also a lot of information available of things to see and do in Fargo.

Two GREAT "Geocaches"!

By Rad D |

Well, we would have come anyway for the much-favored geocaches here, but it was almost impossible to miss since we were staying right next door! We even had a chance to explain the hobby to two different people who asked what we were doing. Always nice to help the CVT do their job of creating goodwill for the area. Thank you for hosting these two fun caches!

Last feels like first!

By DanMarCo |

We’ve now visited all 50 states & have been to many visitors centers. I must say that North Dakota has taken a negative ( the last state many people visit ) & made it a positive!!

If this is your 50th state be sure to go to the Fargo Visitors Center. They congratulate you on your achievement, take photos of you, have you register in their 50th state guest book, and give you a Best for Last T-shirt & certificate. You can also have your photo taken at the original wood chipper.

Thanks Fargo !

The "Original" wood chipper from the movie FARGO is here!

By mandrgames |

This was a bucket list item for us on our RV trip through North Dakota. In addition to the wood chipper, we learned more about the 2 cities on either side of the Red River that separates the 2 states, North Dakota and Minnesota. Lots of parking as other wood chippers and artifacts inside and outside.

Home of the "Chipper" from the movie Fargo

By photolandscape |

I made a pilgrimmage here to see the chipper from the film Fargo. Got my picture taken stuffing an artificial leg (with sock) into the chipper. It doesn't get any better than that. I would drive 250 miles out of my way to visit again--it's that great a place. Oh yeah, it's clean and the staff is very helpful too.

One of the best visitor's centers ever!

By JackR46 |

We stopped by the welcome center mainly because I had seen on the Internet that they had the wood-chopper from the movie Fargo. I thought it would be fun to stop by for a photo. Replica or "stand in" wood chipper as they call it, is outside in the grassy area surrounded by the "Walk of Fame". But one of the wood choppers used/or at least was on the set, is inside the center. They also have lots of other Fargo movie-related memorabilia, like signed photos, scripts, hats, etc. We also got a couple of good hints from one of the travel associates - sorry I forgot her name, but Fertile MN is a clue - extremely friendly helpful and knowledgeable. Out photo-op with the wood chopper was great. But even without the Fargo memorabilia and free popcorn, this is one of the best visitor's centers we have ever encountered in our multitude of adventures.

The Wood Chipper!

By donjol |

Since I didn't know what there was to do or see in Fargo, I stopped at the Visitor's Center when I got to town. The girl at the counter was very nice, she suggested a couple things to do and see. But the real attraction here is the wood chipper from the movie Fargo (one of my favorites). Also fun was the walk of fame outside with many famous musicians and actors have left there hand and foot prints. Very nice short stop.

Check out the Walk of Fame handprints outside the Visitor's Center too!

By ificouldonlyfly |

This is a nice little stop to pick up some local information about the area - the young man working the desk was clearly very proud of his town and eager to share some local things for us to do. Lots of brochures and tourist magazines to help in that as well.

As people mentioned, the woodchipper from the movie is a must while you're here, BUT wait there's more! There's a walk of fame outside that borders a big square of grass that has signatures and handprints of famous visitors to Fargo - Jerry Reed, George W. Bush, Dave Coulier, Bert & Ernie, Garth Brooks, Kiss, Metallica, and lots more. It was fun looking at them and putting our hands and feet in their prints. I would've missed out on this, had I not known to look for this. I wish they'd preserve them better - some of them were so badly weathered and cracked you couldn't read them. I would've enjoyed a map saying who was on each square and maybe also why they happened to be in Fargo.

All in all should you stop here? - oh for sure, you betcha!!

Fargo Movie Fans

By Lorri F |

It is worth the quick stop if you are fan of the movie Fargo. It was neat to see the memorabilia from the movie and the wood chipper. It is worth noting, depending on how you feel about COVID, there was an employee with a hacking cough and no mask. I didn't linger.

Awesome visit - worth the trip

By Shelly D |

The young ladies at the visitor center were awesome! We brought my parents from Ohio to visit North Dakota as their 50th State and they were great! Thank you so much for making this special for them. We definitely appreciate it!

Stop here first in Fargo!!

By Karen M |

This was a great experience!! The people inside were very friendly and helpful.

The wood chipper from the movie Fargo was there - which was our reason for stopping. However, there was much more once we arrived. The staff offered help with things to do and see and there are maps, etc.

The gift shop had postcards and they even mailed some for us. It was very clean and nice inside.

Outside is an artistic bison statue and the walk of fame. Lots of famous people have visited Fargo and it was fun to see their hand and boot/ foot prints.

The visitor center is right off the interstate and easy to get to. Don’t go to Fargo without stopping.

OK But Not As Interesting As We Expected

By jnbxu |

After reading the reviews, we thought this would be a must see. The ladies working in the center were very friendly and helpful, but the center it self was disappointing. The only plus was they had North Dakota T-shirts that were of fairly good quality for $20 and some magnets that were reasonable, We were glad we picked up the shirts at the visitor center as Sam's Club and Walmart have tables of NDSU but nothing of just North Dakota.

About as good as it gets for a Visitors Center!

By lowens311 |

I usually do not stop at Visitor Centers, but we were passing through, so we stopped to see the famous woodchipper from the Fargo movie. We were pleasantly surprised at how the woodchipper was set up for pics with other movie memorabilia around. They also had a lot of visitor info and a Save the Best or Last Club for people who have ND as their 50th state! ND was my 48th state a couple of years ago, but my husband did hit 50, so he got in the club! He got a tshirt (mailing to him since they are out of his size) and a magnet, pin and certificate. I took a picture next to a "Save the Best for Last" sign too. They also had cheap refrigerated drinks, some shirts and hats to buy and free hot popcorn for visitors. Everyone was so nice. I highly recommend a stop in here!

All Fifty!

By j0nsc0ttl |

They have a great reward for accomplishing a visit to all fifty states if ND is your last! The center is clean and friendly. Plus free popcorn!

Check Out the Wood Chipper Don't Cha Know!

By breinhaugen |

Great place to check out if you are new to the area and travelling through. You definitely have to check out the real wood chipper from the movie Fargo while you are there too!

Interesting stop

By nickss1 |

This is a visitor centre that also has the wood chipper from the film Fargo. The staff are very welcoming, with plenty of information. There was also a cookies and craft sale on while we were there; it was a busy scene

Coupon book!

By SuperFunSuperPicky |

Nice lil visitor center. Very clean. Free popcorn. Not much to do but it's worth a stop to get the coupon books!

Tried to find a "real" souvenir shop in Fargo and and the guy made a research in the internet and came up with some shops and adresses plus directions how to get there.

Friendly people, interesting visitors center

By Mr.Magoo |

We were passing through in August 2018 (took a while for me to write this!) and stopped here. Loved the wood chipper, the people staffing it were great (friendly and knowledgeable), free popcorn was a nice touch, and they had fun stuff to buy. Couldn't resist a "Fargo North of Normal" T-shirt. Definitely worth the stop.

great place to get info about the area

By ndfar |

They have plenty of information about what is going on in the area, and money saving coupons for dining, and other shopping,

Very friendly staff!

By 072207 |

I stopped and asked if they had post cards for sale. I had looked several places and could not find a post card. Sure enough they did! They had several different post cards for North Dakota and even had a couple for Minnesota.

Attraction in its own right.

By Bill T |

This Visitor Center is an attraction in its own right as it is home to two interesting artefacts. The original notorious woodchipper from the ‘96 film Fargo and a celebrity walk of fame. Visitor Centers rarely get better than this!

Great place for information

By Mystic V |

I needed a map to see the grid system the city is set in (WAY easier to understand than Phoenix) the people were helpful, they had street maps, walking maps, things to do, brochures of all kinds..... PLUS the infamous woodchipper!

If you have a question, they have an answer

By Nancy J |

This is likely the best location in Fargo for information, good review, and an understanding of the community. If you need help, go here first. By the way the location itself is an outstanding place to visit.

Woodchipper

By M F |

You cannot go to Fargo and NOT go to get a picture with the infamous woodchipper. Lots of great information available.

I stopped by this visitor center when I was on my way to the airport. It's a pretty building with an interesting buffalo statue outside. There is also the Walk of Fame where famous folks have left their handprints and names in concrete. There were a lot I didn't know, but some I did and it was fun to see. Inside the center they offer free popcorn (yummy) and some things for sale along with lots of brochures of things to do. The staff seemed very nice. It was a very brief stop for me, but worth a few minutes. They have the wood chipper from the movie Fargo there if you'd like to see the.

Wood chipper!

By Cormsy |

You have to check out the wood chipper from the movie Fargo. Funny little tourist draw to the visitor centre. They also have a cool little walk of fame with some great names like Garth Brooks and KISS. The stones are pretty beat up on some of them, but still a cool feature. They also have a state sign to North Dakota in case you missed it. Friendly staff and it is part of the Save the Best for Last 50th State Club. We saw some people get their gifts for completing their travels to all 50 states.

Fun and helpful

By Charlie R |

The staff was very friendly and helpful. They had loads of brochures and suggestions. Of course, we had our picture taken with the famous woodchipper from the movie!

Home Of The Wood Chipper

By dambanker |

Well worth a quick visit. Easy to find, just couple of blocks from the interstate. Actually ended up stopping here twice. The first time we just missed and it was closed inside. If that happens, fear not, the most iconic part of Fargo, the infamous wood chipper, has a great replica outside that has 24hrs access.

On our second visit a couple of days later we landed here while they were open and got to see the original wood chipper inside. Like most visit centers they have washrooms and a gift ship too.

Well worth the visit either way, just for the wood chipper.

Visitor Center very Informative !

By DannyWasserman |

Check out the visitor center as you are passing through the area. This one was very clean and the information gives you directions on your next journey stop.

See the Fargo Wood Chipper

By Michael T |

We stopped in to get some information on the Fargo area. The building is beautiful and has some of the memorabilia from the Fargo movie. The wood chipper is inside and the standby chipper is located on the front lawn as a photo prop.

Friendly and helpful

By Sara S |

It was a treat to see the wood chipper from “Fargo”. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The amount of brochures was overwhelming but the staff made sure to find you what you were looking for and willing to answer any questions.

Very nice place for a visit

By Jan S |

The Staff here are very friendly and helpful.
There is a Wood Chipper there the one used in the film Fargo. You can take lots of photos.
There is free popcorn and coffee.
There is also plenty of free books and map of Fargo.
Good for a visit. Plenty of parking outside.

Helpful staff, plenty of info

By Tom C |

An easy to get to location helped, altho I expected it to be closer to downtown. The staff member who helped us was great with ideas and info.

I saw the wood chipper!

By Barbara S |

When I discovered that the wood chipper from the movie "Fargo" was residing in the Fargo-Moorhead Visitors Center, I vowed to take a trip there to see it. And there it was, foot and all. As I was traveling alone, there was no one to take my picture. A helpful employee saw me trying to get a selfie and offered to take the picture. She even brought out a box of woodsman hats with ear flaps for a more authentic feel for the photo. There are a few items from the movie in a case. There's also a well-worn script that was used on the set, as well as the wood chipper scene script, both of which are available to thumb through and read. T-shirts and other souvenirs are available for purchase.

Besides the wood chipper, the center has many brochures of things to do in the area. Outside is a painted buffalo and an interesting rock, as well as the Walk of Fame.

The Center was easy to find. Parking was easy. I enjoyed the hour I spent there.

Fun and worth the stop!

By NotAFoodSnobFromNY |

Alix and Jane were very friendly and super interested in where the visitors came from and why they stopped in. Cool memorabilia from the movie, Fargo. Jane shared funny stories about office goings-on after the movie came out. Also, the building is really neat with super high ceilings. It looks like a grain elevator from the outside.

Oh, and...there is free coffee just to the right of the door when you walk in!

Wood chipper from the movie Fargo

I stopped to see the move prop wood chipper from the movie Fargo. I also wanted to stop to stretch my legs and find some information at the visitor center.

Visitor Center for Two Adjacent Cities in Two States

By Dequan C |

We visited this center at the end of July 2018. It is on the right side of I-94w in the city of Fargo, ND. The name is F & M Visitor Center, or Fargo & Moorhead Visitor Center. It is for the two cities of ND and MN that are separated by a river - “Red River”. The people working in the center was nice and helpful, and most impressed by the center is the free pop corn freshly made by one of the employees - ver delicious. When we came out of the Center building with the pop corn, we were lucky to enjoy the antique cars displayed in the open antique car market that is on the west side of the Center although I am not sure if this market is there everyday or just some day in a week or in a month (Note: It was a Saturday when we were there). No other Visitor centers like this one had given such great impression - Free delicious pop corn.

One of the best visitor centers around................

By Windsurferguy01 |

So I have been to 48 of the 50 states and most of the visitor centers are, get information and get out usually in 5 minutes. This visitor center is one of the best we have ever been to in the U.S. There are actually a lot of neat things to look at like the wood chipper, the bison outside and the concrete star autograph and hand prints just to name a few. It is literally right off the I-94 exit ramp. They said there was nothing to do in Fargo, I don't agree. They have great information on the area and Kara was very pleasant, very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. She is also a good photographer and yes my wife still thinks you deserve a raise. Thank you for all of your help, we had a great time in Fargo!

They were very helpful and nice.

By bn3b5ry |

First off, don't go to Fargo in the late fall or anytime in the winter. In fact, don't even go in the early spring. Fargo is crazy cold. I'm not kidding. Anyway, the ladies at the desk were very helpful and funny. Also, those Fargo accents are real.

The woodchipper!!!!!!!!!!!!

By Foodie240 |

They have some cool items for sell. Some of these items are from the movie, other stuff just has the name of the city on it, but it's a great place to find some gifts. The people working were very friendly and the woodchipper was cool to see.

Informative and lots of fun!!

By Anniesmom2007 |

Love seeing the items and pictures from the making of the movie "Fargo".... and LOVE that the woodchipper is right here for fun photo taking. Staff is very helpful and friendly and a great place for a picnic!

Nice and informative

By Soumitra D |

The place is Nice and informative and above all great coffee. They have information about ND as well as neighboring states. If you have not planned your trip and you have time this is the place to go and collect information.

Fargo's marketing is outstanding

By GranZorro |

For a small town, they do a lot to bring in and keep visitors busy. I had already been impressed with their main brochure, which is quite sophisticated, The visitors center with its friendly and knowledgeable staff lives up to that image.
Incidentally, the town does its best to erase the unfavorable image of the movie with the same name. Nevertheless, at the visitors' center one can have a picture taken with the wood chipper...

A Must for Local Information

By coachdink |

Go see "The Woodchipper" ! This is the place to go for tons of tourist information, brochures, maps and anything you need for information on Fargo, North Dakota and the surrounding area. The staff was very nice and provided us with tons of information about the local scene.

Quick stop for popcorn and wood chipper

By Nanette V |

Easy in and out, near Scheels for college shirts. Nice facility, even if you ONLY want to see the wood chipper.

Very friendly and helpful staff

By David P |

Stopped in to the Visitors Center for two reasons. First I wanted to see the woodchipper from the Fargo movie. Also, I wanted directions to the Red River Farmers Market. They have a replica woodchipper on the outside of the center. Head inside for the actual woodchipper used in the movie. Staff was very friendly about how to get to the Farmers Market and highlighted the best route on a map. They also offered parking suggestions due to road construction downtown. They also had a Volkswagen Show going on that day so it was fun to look at all the cars.

Interesting and helpful advice

By Accountant_eats_out |

We stopped here after already trying to visit 2 other tourist attractions but they were closed (Red River Zoo & Aviation Museum). The famous woodchipper is on show and is good for photo opportunities. Also the staff at the centre are really friendly and helpful. They suggested we try the children museum but that too ended up being closed.

Friendly nad helpful

By njgramps |

The staff is as friendly and helpful as you will ever find at a visitors' center. The building is large and nicely aranged wiht a wide variety of information about toruing the area, The staff mad sureto check opening times for me and as it turned out some plces wer opne longer than the websites listed. You can see the infamous woodchipper and a replica.

Quirky, but fun spot to learn more about ND

By profmom_12 |

We learned fun facts about ND and enjoyed talking with Chris who works at the center. My daughter worked on a puzzle of ND with him. There are high quality ND shirts for sale there and other items. There is free popcorn, too.

Had to go to fulfill my #50 State

By Tracey M |

Prior to going to Fargo, I looked on Trip Advisor for the top attractions in the city. I was pleasantly surprised to see how the Visitors Center in Fargo (called the Fargo-Moorhead Visitors Center) handles those that arrive having completed their 50th US State. I had planned on driving from Minneapolis to Fargo to do just that. After reading Trip Advisor I added the Visitor Center to my list.
The Visitor Center sits right off Highway 94 about four miles into North Dakota from Minnesota. The signage is great so there is no way to miss it or get lost. Just know it is a large, white/light green, barn type building with F*M Visitors Center high above.
I walked in and shyly mentioned that I was completing my 50th State. Oh, they were so happy and excited for me. They immediately pulled out a certificate of completion, a patch/magnet, and asked what size t-shirt I wore. After putting on my 'Best For Last Club' t-shirt, they took a picture of me and asked if I would like any taken with my camera. Wow! What a way to make you feel special.
I put a pin in my hometown on their map and then took more photos by the wood chipper from the Fargo movie. They have the original screenplay on display and many more 'movie memorabilia'. My husband loves the movie, so I was happy to buy him a t-shirt. There is a lot for sale but that is not the focus. The focus is you visiting and how may they help you make your visit better. I received lunch recommendations, things to do recommendations, maps, directions around the town, etc. They were fabulous.
I was so glad I stopped. I will treasure my hard earned t-shirt and certificate. Thank you for making my day so special. Kudos to Fargo!

Nice visitor center

By Sherry C |

Since we stayed in Fargo for the night, on our way to Theodore Roosevelt National Park, we had to stop here and see the infamous wood chipper from the movie. The actual one is in the visitor center, and they have another outside for those who visit when they are closed. This is a very nice center with lots of information. You also have to see the celebrity walk of fame that lines the outside grass area. Very interesting. For those that geocache, there are some of those here too. It was a very nice stop.

I did save the best for last

By pslpam |

The Visitor Center staff were amazing and truly made you feel special for stopping in. North Dakota was my 50th state to visit and I loved it that they had a placard on the wall for a photo op, a T-shirt, certificate and bumper decal to commemorate. What a nice touch. I recommend you save it for last and do visit the Ale House to try a flight of their Fargo-made beer and Proof’s Distillery where we sampled their very own Glen Fargo - not a bad single malt!

Chipper

By Marge C |

What a wonderful stop. Lots of fun with the chipper! The staff was excellent . It was a destination on our trip.

Much more than a visitor's center

By WeGoOut |

Remember, this is a visitor's center. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly.

But wait! There's more! It is also home to the famous wood chipper from the movie, "Fargo." It comes complete with a foot and a sock! Anyone who has ever seen the movie must visit this shrine.

Well worth the stop!

Friendly visitors center

By ccsfamily |

We went to the visitors center to see the wood chipper from the movie “Fargo” and was not disappointed. There is a replica outside; however, the REAL one, complete with a fake foot, is inside ready for a photo op. One of the workers asked if we would like hats for our photo and supplied us with the wool lumberjack style hats and took our picture. Fargo has embraced this quirky association.

The rest of the visitors center has lots of leaflets about the area and Fargo/ North Dakota merchandise for purchase. I collect Christmas ornaments from my travels and found a nice North Dakota one here.

They also have free popcorn and free coffee for people.

Amazing visitor center

By Maureen W |

The minute we walked in the door, we were greeted by the friendly staff who offered to assist us. They gave us the information we requested and a map with directions. It is an interesting modern building with a one of a kind bison on display outside the building which is great for your first photo of North Dakota. Great place to learn about the area.

Gotta see the wood chipper

By Linda H |

Excellent visitors center. Jane was friendly and very knowledgeable. She told us all about the North Dakota 50th State campaign ( hilarious). Then Jane offered to take our photo in front of the actual wood chipper from the movie Fargo complete with those winter hats. Too much fun!

Helpful ladies on staff; plan at least 30 mins to visit center

By jksmi |

Google maps had told us exit 73 for an attraction we planned to visit. It was wrong and we ended up getting lost over in the Moorhead area (versus west Fargo). We found the Visitor's center and it was worth a visit, especially if you are new to the area. We were already late for where we were going, and wish we had time to spend looking at the exhibits, books and various things there. The lady who gave us a map of the area, explaining where we were and marked a couple places we planned to visit was helpful. The children were also given a free bag of popcorn which was lovely, especially after driving around for awhile in traffic before.

Stopping at the Fargo-Moorhead Visitors Center

By cenzt |

Average trip. We arrived at approximately 9:30 am and made our way around the building. There were several things one could see outside, including a puzzle painted Buffalo, the Fargo walk of fame, and the wood chipper replica. Inside, the visitor center was very tiny and consisted of the actual wood chipper, some artifacts from the movie, as well as some brochure’s and maps of the surrounding area. There was also a restroom inside.

Tip: I recommend spending 15 minutes here if you truly want to see everything.

Not Much Here

By tlscorpio |

There's not not much to do at this place, but the staff were very friendly and helpful. About the only thing to see really was the props from the movie Fargo, which was filmed mostly in Minnesota because there was not much snow that year in Fargo.

Nice Quick Stop

By Daniel B |

Fun nice little place to learn about Fargo and see various things about the town and region from farming to film. We were there to geocache, on our way up to Gilby.

What a NEAT Place!!!!

By Navyguyo6 |

Our first stop in Fargo was at the visitor center. Such friendly people. They offered to take our picture by the wood chipper and asked what brought us to Fargo. We mentioned that North Dakota was our 50 th state to visit. We had no idea of "The Best for Last" club, but what a fun idea. We are now proud members of the club and based on the hospitality we were shown, I guess we truly did save "THE BEST FOR LAST"

Great fun!

By Emily |

We loved seeing the original wood chipper and manuscript for the movie Fargo. Love taking our family and visitors here for some fun pictures!

If you love the film you must visit here

By Richard C |

We went here purely to see the Woodchipper from the film Fargo ( one of the best films ever made ) ( the original is inside, the one outside is a replica ). It's free and the lady working there lent us hats and took photos of us 'disposing' of a leg. You will probably only be there for around 20 minutes to a half hour but they also have just about every vacation guide or booklet etc you would ever need so it's well worth a stop.

A Nice Highlight

By Daniel S |

My family have done a lot of traveling & found this was one of the better visitors' centers we have visited. The staff was welcoming & enthusiastic about their home.

A must stop, inside or out

By Sandy O |

Inside of the Visitors Center the people are friendly and accommodating. They provided me with a lot of information for the group that we would be bringing through later in the year. You can view the original wood chipper prop used in the movie Fargo and check out their gift shop and other displays. (First visit in March)
Outside of the visitors center you can view the Celebrity Walk of Fame. This features the hand prints of all kinds of famous people, including Bert and Ernie, who have visited Fargo. There is also a replica of the original wood chipper used in the Fargo movie.

Nice Displays

By ClaudiaAS |

Visited here one morning. Very helpful staff who helped with directions and advice. Nice grounds and very unique building. Coffee available.

Small but nice

By Dawn C |

Nice little visitor center. Very friendly staff. They have the famous wood chipper inside from the movie Fargo. Make sure you see the movie before you go. There’s a nice little walk of fame outside with many celebrities, hand prints, including Jethro Tull and Pat Boone. We spent about 15 minutes here. Not much else to see except brochures.

???

By krogersku |

Don’t get me wrong, this is a nice place to stop at while in Fargo. The whole activity though only takes about 15 minutes. There are a couple photo opportunities outside and then you can see the original wood chipper from the movie Fargo. Great movie, but it is a wood chipper. It’s not like this is The Field of Dreams. I just don’t understand how this is the top attraction in Fargo. Anyway, the staff is helpful. Picked up some brochures for the remainder of our travels across the state.

Ema is very informative about Fargo!

By DoverJungleboy |

We stopped in for about 15 minutes prior to exploring Fargo. Ema discussed the zoo, botanical gardens, Fargo theater, Fargodome and other things to do. Also suggested pizza restaurants in downtown Fargo. We selected Sammy’s. Very informative and clean bathrooms. And, of course, we took a photo with the wood chipper used in the movie ‘Fargo’.

Helpful Staff made our visit to Fargo successful

By Leonard T |

We went here because we had no idea about what to do in town. The young staff members were so cheerful and helpful that I had to complement them with this review.

Be sure to stop

By bbqkeith48 |

We stopped at the visitors center to see what there was to do in the area before heading down the road. The ladies at the desk were very helpful and recommended different sites to see. Definitely worth the time spent here.

If you want to view the wood chipper in the movie Fargo

By weliketoeats |

If you think of the wood chipper in the movie Fargo is cool, this is a must stop for me it was a little disturbing.

Completed my bucket list here!

By worldtraveler1951-11 |

What a fun way to end my journey to all 50 states! I have no idea how they know that this would be my last, but at 11 am, I was already the 4th person that day to complete this milestone. What a hoot! I got the tee-shirt and took many pictures of my friend with the infamous woodchipper from the movie.
Pippa was very friendly and helpful. I suggest anyone passing through Fargo stop by the visitor's center for local hospitality as well as good recommendations for other local sites.

Such helpful staff and a photo with the wood chipper too!

By edengulledge |

We had a chance to have our photo with the wood chipper in bomber hats! How cool!!

Staff is very friendly and helpful.

Fun stop

By BruceArk17 |

Seeing the woodchipper from the movie was a fun roadside attraction. I also enjoyed the Walk of Fame even thought the weather has taken a toll on it. The best part was the very, very nice woman behind the desk around noon on Monday, October 22. She helped with information, took a picture for me, and shared a smile along with a nice conversation. Thank You!!

Unexpected

By Tim R |

We drove into Fargo and spent the day sightseeing, enjoyed the downtown restaurants and spent the night. We drove to Fargo because it was our last state to complete visiting all 50 states. We drove to the visitors center the next morning to get some info and hopefully a picture with Fargo or North Dakota in the background to commemorate our achievement. Well we were in for a surprise. Upon learning that North Dakota and Fargo was number 50 they rolled out the red carpet. Totally unexpected. They gave us certificates, tee shirts , pins and magnets. Took pictures. Best for Last club. Wow. The center is very nice. Looks like an old grain? Elevator. Lots of books and brochures plus a gift shop. Can't forget the wood chipper either. Great visit. The staff was super friendly. Go to Fargo

Totally delightful!

By FLTennis1 |

Just simply a great place to spend an hour! Gracious, informative staff plus great information on the surrounding area.

Exceeded Expectations

By FamDekker788 |

We drove 8 1/2 hours out of our way to visit North Dakota, and cross the 50th state off my dad‘s list. What began as an obsessive compulsive chore, quickly turned into a really great experience when we arrived at the visitors center. I was excited to see the wood chipper, my dad was thrilled that we had two adult drivers and fun conversations in the car, but the big surprise was the “best for last” club and incredible customer service we experienced upon arrival. Aside from a huge assortment of traditional maps, brochures, and catalogs, they have the original wood chipper from the movie Fargo, and an enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff. On our way out, she cheerfully told my dad not to feel guilty for saving North Dakota for last, she thanked us for coming, and gave us a great recommendation for dinner. Admittedly, our expectations were pretty low when we first arrived, but they managed to go far above and beyond in every way. Big thumbs up!

Lots of info

By Terri B |

Clean, beautiful building. Highlight of the center is the wood chipper and Fargo " the movie" stuff.
Staff was SUPER polite and asked to help us with anything.
Did have popcorn, but , free popcorn was offered.

A must quick stop

Such a cute place to pick up some last minute souvenirs or if you are looking for something to do. On a motor coach trip and we stopped to see the walk of Fame. We got there a little early, but Gia let us come in. She was so friendly and helpful. She made us all free very welcomed. Clean building and bathrooms.

Stopped to see the wood chipper

Fun, Free, Short Stop

By Ashley H |

Our hotel happened to be right by this place, so as I was drudging through things to do and saw this--I knew I had to stop by.

I am a fan of the movie Fargo, as I am a lifetime resident of Minnesota, and I do believe all Minnesotans and all North Dakotans are annoyed when "outsiders" don't know that Fargo is in North Dakota!

We got here on a Sunday morning, right when they opened up. There was plenty of parking available and I also noted the Woodchipper outside of the establishment where you could interact with it and take pictures in true Fargo fashion.

The inside of the Visitor center is quaint. As you walk in, you see the actual movie prop along with other props from the Fargo movie as well.

They have several cool, Fargo-centric things to purchase.

They also have many different, colored brochures detailing what is going on in the area. I found this to be the most helpful in my search for things to do!

A young lady was manning the desk, and she was very helpful. We were able to purchase tickets to an attraction right there.

Overall, I was kind of hoping the young lady would have a super thick, overdone Fargo accent to welcome tourists... Because how freaking cool would that be?

Helpful staff

By CindeeP |

Stopped in to get information about what to do for just a partial day in the area. Staff were well versed and very helpful offering suggestions, maps and coupons. They helped me make the most of my time here.

Cute building and they also have some memorabilia from "Fargo" the movie.

Nice stop for pictures and to get information; great staff

By scottcaps |

Nice short stop just off I-94 to get brochures from all over North Dakota and some Minnesota areas. Very helpful staff and clean facility with restrooms. The wood chipper from the movie "Fargo" is located inside and the staff will even take your picture and provide prop hats. Our kids enjoyed putting together a wooden puzzle of North Dakota. Outside, there is a painted buffalo, a backup wood chipper from "Fargo", a picnic pavilion and concrete handprints from celebrities who have visited Fargo.

Fargo - Welcome Center Info

By DiAlJo |

We arrived at the Fargo Airport, picked up the rental car and headed directly to the Visitor Center. We had planned the visit to see the Woodchipper and Walk of Fame. We were happy to find a very friendly team that help us understand a little more about Fargo and West Fargo attractions. It was pretty easy to find and plenty of parking. The Woodchipper did not disappoint as there is a nice display for picture taking and other film materials for those that still remember or even seen the movie. The Walk of Fame was over 100 concrete slabs right in front of the building - creating an edging to the nice grass area. The walk includes the famous and somewhat famous which makes it cool to see - get a map inside so you can follow - the slabs have some significant wear making them hard to read.

Overall the best Visitor Center we have seen for attractions - and free popcorn.

Fun place with a lot of information

By SueBusse |

So what you're stopping in here for is to see some movie memorialbilia and the wood chipper from the movie Fargo. We drove up on a Sunday morning and thought it was closed as no other cars were there. When I tried the door it was open and we were greeted by two lovely young ladies who were so helpful! One was especially so. She took our picture with the famous (infamous?) wood chipper and she also suggested several brochures and places to visit. All in all, a very nice experience. There is also a wood chipper in a park in the parking lot, but the one from the movie is inside.

Fun stop

By Linda D |

Worth a quick stop to get information on the area- and don’t miss photo op with the wood chipper if you’re a fan of the film- or if ND is the last of the 50 states on your list. Staff is helpful and friendly.

The woodchipper lives here.

By Randy G |

You can't be a tourist without visiting the Fargo visitor center. It is a physically beautiful bit of architecture and there is a wealth of information about the Fargo-Moorhead City area. But most of all, the famous woodchipper.

Must visit for 50th staters

By westphillyboy |

Information

By Dawn5108 |

I needed information and the staff were friendly and helpful. There was a variety of brochures available. The grounds were inviting and tidy.

Fun stop for some history and info.

By micstebou |

The visitors center in along the interstate in Fargo.

The good: The staff are very friendly and helpful. A key draw is the brush shredder from the movie "Fargo". The staff will help you take pictures there. They have pamphlets and information on area attractions. Free popcorn. Some limited areas souvenirs. There is a walk of stars outside with signatures and hand prints of some celebrities that have visited the area.

The not so good: The area is a little circuitous to get to once you get off the interstate if you are not familiar with the area. Since we all primarily use GPS maps now, it is a little less of a problem. The small park across the drive could use some more interesting landscaping. About 1/2 of the concrete celebrity blocks are in bad shape; badly cracked and deteriorating. Minimal ties to local industries and universities are evident in the center.

If you are a local and never been, you should go. If you are new to the area or passing through, stop in.

Excellent

By Mindy and Roger A |

This Visitor Center is easily seen from I-94 and is only a 1/4 mile west from the intersection of I-29 and I-94. A beautiful white building patterned after historic Grain Elevators.

The staff were very helpful & there were plenty of materials for both Fargo & North Dakota. There is a display regarding the movie “Fargo” with the actual brush grinder used in the movie. Also a nice display of ancient animals that once roamed this area. Ask about coupons for the Craft Breweries in Fargo.

Bathrooms were clean. There is also complementary fresh made Popcorn & Coffee. A very nice Visitor Center worth a short stop.

Youbetcha!

By Dianna P |

We bought a couple of shirts and had one of the workers take our picture near the wood chipper. The workers were really nice and we had a fun time.

Worth a stop

By Nicky L |

Great building, useful information of course, clean restrooms and some interesting items from the Coen Bros film "Fargo" including the famous wood chipper. Oh and they have free popcorn and coffee.

Just stop here- you know you want to

By Patrick G |

Highly recommend stopping by. Great place to stretch the legs. Super easy to access and get back on the road. Super friendly. Neat to see the wood chipper from the movie “Fargo”. Yes- the real one. They even take your picture while you stuff a leg into it.

Good Stuff

By David R |

Stopped in to get maps, brochures etc.( there were plenty). Got a picture taken by the chipper and picked out the info we were after..Staff person was very helpful and friendly - spending time going over an in depth map of the city.Looking for a place to eat, she suggested a restuarant close by and it turned out to be a great choice. Would recommend stopping in for info.

Need more hospitality!

By Martha |

This was the most unwelcoming visitor’s center that I’ve ever been to! The workers didn’t greet us, say “hi,” ask if they could help us, or even look at us when we came in!

The Woodchipper....and Celebrity Walk of Fame

By KK78 |

Friendly staff in the visitors center, free coffee, clean bathrooms. The infamous woodchipper from the movie Fargo is here. They also have a "celebrity walk of fame" outside of famous people that have visited.

A must stop

By Jdc9601 |

Inside you can see the movie script for “Fargo” and the actual woodchipper from the movie, outside the center it is a replica. The building was nice and warm and very nice and clean restrooms. There is coffee and a popcorn machine also. Some Fargo items for sale and other things to see.

Memorable visit

Stopped here to get a record of visiting our 50 th state - North Dakota. Joined the Best for a last Club which was ingenious of them to come up with that. Greeted by very friendly staff who were excited to be part of our celebration. They gave us free tshirts and a certificate and took photos of us . What a unique idea!
Of course, having seen Fargo, we got a pic with the wood chipper as well. Great and memorable stop!

Best for Last Club - ND was state #50

By pat l |

The lady working here was so amazing! So, we had to go here because we heard years ago that if you go to ND as the 50th state you visit, they have a club for you to join and give you a t-shirt and such. All that is true and you can see the woodchipper from Fargo, too. The lady working here was so sweet and excited for us to finish our quest to see every state!

Awesome, must do activity!

By Scott D |

We had our 11 year old son’s birthday party there and the kids had a blast. They dedicated two workers to be with our group, show them how to throw and made sure they were safe. I HIGHLY recommend this place for any type of event or just a place to go with friends or family!

The First Stop for Everything!

By Taeuss |

Located just off I-94 and 45th Street, the Fargo-Moorhead Visitors Center is a great place to start any trip to the region. Staffed by enthusiastic locals, the Center is lavishly supplied with a wide variety of brochures and tourism information for both the Twin Cities as well as their many fascinating destinations in that region of the two states. And the wood chipper from the film Fargo is indeed on the front lawn!

One Wonderful Visitors Center

By J A |

This visitor center had to be the best one we've ever visited. The staff was friendly and engaging and gave us good recommendations as to what other local places to visit.

The center is bright and clean and unusual as it was designed to look like a grain elevator which we thought was quite appropriate to the area's agricultural heritage.

It's too bad this state visit wasn't our 50th as we read about the big celebration with t-shirt, pin, certificate and picture if it is; we should have made North Dakota our last state!

Still we got to have our picture taken with The Wood Chipper from FARGO, the movie, and my husband enjoyed the free popcorn and coffee.

Outside, we walked around the Fargo Walk of Fame and recognized many of the names. It's unfortunate that a number of the concrete block imprints are cracked obscuring the names of the celebrities.

The Visitors Center is well worth a stop!

Fargo is Fair

By CarolG4590 |

North Dakota was my 46th state to visit. The visitor's center is the #1 thing to do there. It is clean, nice lawn, free popcorn, and friendly staff. There's just not much to do...there or in Fargo. Pleasant trip.

Brillant Idea!

By SilveyM |

Brillant marketing concept! Love it! Wish I had thought of it. Puts a brand new spin on "got the t-shirt". And yes, it was "the last place" my husband and I added to our gotta see all 50 states. So happy to join the "Best for Last Club". Lots to see and do in ND. We'll be back.

Very helpful and fun

We stopped by the Visitor Center to view the wood chipper from the movie, Fargo which was great fun. The attendant approached us immediately and was very helpful and informative.

A must see in Fargo!

By hollyb905 |

We were on a multi-city trip and Fargo was our hotel spot for the night. We checked into our hotel and were eager to see The "walk of fame" was fun. They had some fun 90s handprints. We went around 7pm (and during the pandemic) so we did not get to go inside. But it was a great photo spot. We did a photo with the North Dakota sign, a very colorful bison (or is it a buffalo.. we googled the difference and I can't remember). There is also a nice little pavillion so you could bring your own picnic lunch. Large parking lot.

A must see.

By Skislikeagirl |

Beautifully kept building, friendly staff and interesting history. With few tourist attractions in Fargo, the visitor centre is definitely a must see.

Last state of our 50 state, 4 year tour and this was a great stop!

By Planner_9 |

Friendly staff. Fun to talk to. Joined the saved the best for last club. Got a free tshirt, pin, badge, and certificate. My niece could not have been more impressed. That was a highlight for us. Great spot to relax, buy souvenirs - tshirts, coasters, postcards and get information. I recommend stopping by just to chit chat with the staff and get some free popcorn and coffee.

They have the wood chipper!

By OutdoorBoomer |

Stop by to get information about the area - dining, lodging, recreation, business- and see the wood chipper made famous in the movie Fargo.

Nice staff

By Mikey88 |

Not much to see here apart from the woodchipper from the film. The staff were helpful and sorted us out with a pass for the pinball place.

50th State Award

By MikeDorsey |

Best visitor center ever. Friendly and helpful. There is a certificate for ND being your 50th state, and a t shirt and a photo op. Wonderful idea. And they have a wood chipper.

NW road trip

By Lori J |

Small, had some nice info to take, also had tour books to buy. The chipper is fun to take a picture. Employee was very nice.

Very friendly staff

By kf17020 |

Some good brochures and information about things to do around Fargo. Staff was very friendly. It was definitely worth the visit since this was my 50th state. They have a sign to stand in front of announcing your 50th and they'll also give you a certificate and T-shirt. A nice touch by this friendly city.

Best for last welcome!

By Lynette C |

We were delighted to find out the visitors center has a Best For Last club for people who have ND last on their list of 50 states to visit. This was the case for my husband and they gave him a certificate and T-shirt! Add in the fun photo op with the famous wood chipper and we had a great stop.

Very Informative

By Melodycthomas |

This small visitors center is chock full of information about North Dakota. In addition, the young man at the counter gave us an excellent overview of key attractions around the state. A wood chipper is set up in the building so you can take a picture with it, but in actuality, the movie “Fargo” was not filmed here. It just made the town famous for its name.

Must stop place for a quick spot of fun

By ericl |

This place is fun to stop by when you get into town. They have the authentic woodchipper from the movie "Fargo" in the lobby, autographed. Nice souvenirs like Fargo shirts and mugs. The ONLY place we could find Fargo souvenirs. The staff was very friendly.

Awesome Information Center

By Nicole W |

Very friendly staff and very informative about all things North Dakota and even Minnesota. Definitely recommend.

Nice stop along the interstate to get info and use the bathroom!

By Tyme4relaxing |

Nice visitor center with "Fargo" the movie wood chipper, colorful buffalo statue and concrete memorials to movie stars, singers and celebrities. The staff is helpful to answer questions. There is a gift shop and brochures for attractions, and it's always good to find a clean bathroom along the interstate.

More than just the wood chipper!

By Gulf SouthTraveler |

As many people know, the infamous wood chipper from the movie "Fargo" is housed here at the Fargo-Moorhead Visitors Center, which is pretty cool, actually. Even better, the staff is very knowledgeable about the area, and are enthused about helping visitors find interesting things to do in Fargo-Moorhead. I'd absolutely recommend making this your first stop if you're visiting this area, plus they've got a good bit of information about regional attractions as well.

Top Notch

By Gary W |

In our 2 months touring the country we have been to over. 30 visitor centres. This one is by far the friendliest and most fun. There is limited merchandise and brochures but it does have the wood chipper from the movie and you can take photos.

Wood Chipper Plus Brochures

By Tommy B |

This was our first stop while visiting Fargo. On TA this is considered the number one attraction. I guess most people have very low quality expectations. There is nothing here except the wood chipper from the movie "Fargo", a lot of pamphlets for the area and a gift shop. I really thought there would be a lot more. I have to say that I was disappointed.

A visitor’s center worth a stop

By Adam M |

Very friendly staff and super fun atmosphere. One of the highlights of our trip to North Dakota. Easy to get to as well.

Wood Chipper from "Fargo" moving on-site

By Nancy G |

Fun to see the actual wood chipper used in the movie. There were other film memorabilia, such as scripts. Outside the center is sort of like a Hollywood Walk-of-Fame, but many of the cement pieces with footprints, etc., are quite dilapidated. What a shame. Overall worth a few minute stop.

Quick Information

By m-sfca |

This is only a place for quick information about the local attractions. The employees were nice and the place was clean.

Saving the best for last!

By 07nan |

We stopped in here on the last day of our trip to ND. We have been working on (as if it's actually been work - it's been a blast!) going to all 50 states and saved North Dakota for last. They give you a t-shirt and a certificate to commemorate your achievement. They have a lot of information available there and outside there are some picnic benches.

Friendly and helpful staff - Special Bonus - The Wood Chipper!!!

By Brian and Cheryl Buss |

Stopped in to get some pointers on the Fargo/Moorehead area as we had a day free in town. Staff are friendly and helpful - lots of promotional info available and maps. The manager took a lot of time with us and asked about the types of things we like to see before launching into things to do. Bonus!!!! The woodchipper from the movie "Fargo" is located just inside the door. The staff are very knowledgeable about the trivia of the movie and will even help out with pictures by providing "props" and take your photo with the chipper.

Saved the best for last 😊

Great quick stop

By NR49008 |

This is a great visitors center. We came for the wood chipper. We came about 15 mins before closing. The gentleman working was great. He took our picture and offered us hats. The walk of fame was a great surprise.

Amazing & helpful staff!

By travelingCAgal |

I was so excited to reach North Dakota (as my 49th state) that we stopped at the visitor center which we thought had already closed (the app said 4pm and it was 4:45 when we stopped). To our surprise it was open! One of the two employees (Audra) greeted us and asked us if we needed any help/information and were very eager to give us handouts of the area of what to do/see. She was very helpful, friendly and courteous! We found out they were closing at 5pm but were very helpful and told us to take our time. I bought a few items and just as we were leaving in walked a woman and her husband who had just made North Dakota her 50th state! I saw the staff pose with them holding a large “5” and “0” which was quite impressive, clever and cute! What a perfect “welcome center” to stop at!

Thanks

By travellerfromatown |

Thanks for having the wood chipper from the movie and for taking our photo and for being so friendly and helpful!

really cute!

By Kara M |

If you're a fan of the movie "Fargo" then you can see the real woodchipper from the movie. It's signed by the Coen brothers and the cast - very cool! The ladies working there were so friendly and they have a club for people who are visiting North Dakota as the 50th state on their bucket list! They take a picture with their special sign and have commemorative t-shirts :)
