Enchanting

By Cathy T |

It is a lovely place to explore. Very diverse shops and restaurants. Eating overlooking the water and watching the wildlife is so relaxing.
Very friendly courteous shop owners and restaurant staff.

Love It Here

By Fran C |

We live in Jacksonville and typically stay in the area a couple time a year. We love the town, restaurants, shops, resorts, the beaches and all the water activities available. A really cool beach town to visits and enjoy. Off the beaten path and you feel like you are away from reality.

Lots of shells

By babsw17florida |

Before I start, let me say, that we live on West coast of Florida, where I'm partial of our beaches. On the Gulf of Mexico. This is the Atlantic Ocean and it's got a great surf with nice waves. The water isn't clear and it's a rougher tide. It's cooler than us too, which is nice for summer. There's shells everywhere if you like to shell. We went to the main beach. There's no shops or boardwalk there, just a beach. They rent umbrella and chairs if needed. But that's it. So come prepared. There were turtle nests on beach, so be careful at them.

Beach trip

By SoGa H |

My family has been visiting Fernandina Beach for some 37 years. In that time, it has changed from a small fishing village to a popular beach attraction. We love that it is not as commercial as some of the other Florida beaches. We stay at one of the beachfront condominiums.

Easy access

By Monabhi29 |

There are so many beach access street. Free public parking. Nice beach. 4 wheels drive allowed at beach .

Beach was okay.....

By Chuck B |

We spent a night on Amelia Island on the way to the most famous beach in the world - Daytona Beach. Needless to say that FB is no Daytona Beach. The climb up from the water to the beach is a little to traverse. Fine for what it was - a short 1 1/2 evening visit. No hurry to return.

Loved Fernandina beach

By Kenbak |

It's a lovely beach, big wide shoreline. Great ocean with fun waves. Nice white sand, lots and lots of shells. Houses and development along the beach look appropriate, creating a very nice visual character. Even when the beach was very busy, it didn't feel crowded.

Sharks teeth

By BriannCarrie |

Awesome beach to find sharks teeth! We found a lot. The beach is not crowded and my kids loves the waves.

BEAUTIFUL BUT "BUMPY"

By TOMOLYN |

The Beach was Beautiful, but you might need "water shoes" -when you go into the ocean. Just a bit bumpy, and rocky in the ocean -with lots of pebbles, and gravel type stones...
STILL WORTH IT THOUGH:)

Good day trip

By Terry |

We enjoyed our time here. Plenty of nice restaurants and shops. This historic district is about 2.5 miles from the beach on Atlantic where we stayed. For us was really only worth a day trip, or maybe two days.

Gorgeous beach

By Joyce K |

On a sunny december Sunday we enjoyed the beach practically to ourselves. The surf was amazing the sand dunes glorious. Can't wait to plan a real beach vacation there. Horse back riding. Running. Swimming.

Vacay 2018

By Chesia k |

We absoulty love this part of Florida I'm use to Panama city beach Florida but now that we have went on vacay here this will probably be our new family vacation area so much to see and do and town is very friendly and quite lots of amazing foods and shops to visit I give this trip an A++

Great clean white sand beach.

By JMark133 |

A wonderful family friendly beach great for walking or swimming. Dogs are welcome also; just bring along the Bag for you know what........!

Enjoy.

Great place to visit

By Christine B |

Found Amelia Island by accident but so glad we visited. Lots to do with beautiful beaches. Not overly busy or too touristy. People were very friendly. Most beaches are pet friendly, which is hard to find, and many businesses were as well. Highly recommend this destination for a family vacation.

Excellent

By Ron |

Beautiful beach with lots of shells and I did find a piece of sea glass. Great place for a early morning walk or a day at the beach

Reunited

By Suzanne G |

Lovely time with old friends. Met up for food and beverage with friends. Pizza, pasta, salad, etc.,.. made fresh. Lots of beverage choices and entertainment for kids too. Pizza dough for them to play with and learn how to make a pie.

Florida's First Coast

By 44dave56 |

This is Florida's first beach and coastal area which has a lot of history in addition to the beautiful beach.

There are weekly farmers markets on Saturday in season and a nice little downtown that has some great shops and restaurants.

The marina offers sightseeing cruises, fishing trips and berthing.

Summer 2016 vacation

By vacationert2015 |

One of the best , most historical locations a person could visit. Well kept town,.Everything in this town is honest and real. Downtown is wonderfully restored and kept and just a beautiful place to see. Great shops and restaurants of all kinds. Great place to see and visit and relax.

Very natural beautiful beach!

By Florida Girl |

The view is spectacular! Sand dunes and sea oaks add to the beauty. Many beach parks and luxury rentals on the water. Quaint downtown shops and restaurants close by. Beautiful area of charming homes too! Many activities are available for all ages.

Changed, far too overcrowded

By Sandi E |

This USED to be such a quaint and wonderful town. Now realtors/investors/politicians have advertised and promoted and changed it so much and are killing the very charm that made the town so attractive. The beaches are beyond overcrowded (it's only the beginning of May right now and I'm told even January and February were the same), the traffic has become horrendous, and finding a parking space downtown is getting very difficult. I was born here in the area, and have been coming back about twice a year, but these last couple of visits have just broken my heart... it is simply not the town I knew and loved. MANY local friends and other locals (business owners, etc.) I've spoken to are also heartbroken and discouraged, and a comment that keeps coming up is that it's being done by those who don't even live in the state, much less the town. This is one of the last oceanside towns that was still a joy to come to and not insanely overcrowded, but they've definitely killed that. YES, "progress and growth" are inevitable, but when it's pushed by OUTSIDERS and by the almighty dollar it's sickening, unnecessary and absolutely a change for the worse. Truly heartbroken.

We were right there!

By LaNita W |

The plan was to go to Ferdinanda Beach and we ended up at Amelia Island. It's pretty much in the same area. Beautiful beach, but not as quiet as Amelia Island.

Wonderful place to wander around and enjoy everything

By Larry W |

We had fun spending several days wandering around this town, enjoying all the sights, shops and restaurants to be visited. It is a wonderful place that offers a little bit of everything, and I loved spending time there. It is also nice because you can park your car anywhere and just walk...it's all within walking distance. I highly recommend visiting, if even for just a day.

A wonderful relaxing break or destination

By sherwin t |

Fernandina Beach and Amelia Island Historic district are wonderful day trips between JAX and SAV. Trendy shops, welcoming management, comfortable cafes excellent AbnBs make it all worth the short day trip diversion an overnight sponit in wonderful AirBnb. Lots of quiet relax time as couples or with friends NOT honky...

Quiet Lovely Long Stretches

By osborner |

There is nothing more pleasant than relaxing on the beach listening to the Atlantic Ocean crashing onto the sand. Just perfect for families too

Great place to live.

By teresavos |

This is the greatest place to live. The sunrise and sunset happens here. Locals are so friendly. Schools are awesome. Top A rated. Lots of things to do. I love it here.

BEAUTIFUL BEACH!!!!!

By deborahs943 |

We just came home from our vacation on Amelia Island. We spent a lot of time walking on the beach. There were very few people on the beach. It was so nice to just walk for miles. We stayed at the Residence Inn which was within walking distance.

Small town charm

By Melissa P |

Love to visit here! So much variety--from the historic downtown to the beaches to the south end canopy road--there is something for everyone! Lots of great places to eat : fast food to fancy sit down. Plenty of shops to choose from!

Peaceful Beach

By Lindsey B |

This is the most peaceful beach I have ever visited in Florida. It was the perfect place to unwind and read a book in a quiet setting. Everyday that I went to the beach it was not crowded at all. I highly recommend visiting this beach if you are the type that likes a quiet setting to relax. There is so much to do in Amelia island as well.

Natural Florida!

By Shanna M |

My family and I visited Fernandina Florida. Love that it is still natural and wild. We visited Fort Clinch State Park and took a ride on Amelia River Cruises to learn more about Cumberland Island. Had a great time spotting the Wild Horses and Dolphins! We were able to also see a Submarine as it was being escorted back out to sea from Kingsland Naval Base. All in all a must see! We will come again next year!

Large beach

By Audra C |

Large beach with facilities and parking. We lucked out and got to see a green sea turtle release on the beach. Very neat to see on our day trip.

Stunning beach

By mrbill |

The beach is beautiful, large and relaxing. Not to be missed if visiting the island lots of free parking all over the beach.

Romantic Beaches

By Gia P |

These beach are fabulous fun for all downtown offers various restaurants that offer to all kinds dinning experiences

lovely beach but there are 2 pulp mills on the island

By cheryl h |

This was our first visit to any Florida beach and I was really looking forward to it. We rented a lovely oceanfront cottage for a month and were able to see some amazing sunrises. There are a lot of shells on the beach if that is what you like. You can also find sharks teeth which is what we like. You are close to some great golf courses if golfs your game. You also have good restaurants to choose from.

It wasn't crowded at all in January and that usually makes for a great time when you practically have the entire beach to yourself. Unfortunately there were many times we were downwind of the pulp mills and that made sitting on your deck or walking on the beach impossible. The sulfur smell was just horrible. One very windy day the smell was even blowing in around the doors and windows and made it impossible to stay in the cottage (good day to go antiquing).

Awesome place to visit

By kmerce |

There’s a littke sonething for everyone here from collecting shark’s teeth on the beach, to historic Fort Clinch, to great shops in Old Town and fantastic dining!

Grand Destination!

By Michael R |

Need a beach retreat with a charming small town feel? This is the place! Amelia Island provides the excellent beaches while the town of Fernandina Beach provides the charm. Great restaurants, excellent shops, museums, an historic fort, parks, trails...what more could you ask for? A great place for a week or two or just for a long weekend.

Another fabulous month

By GlobalExplorer |

We spent the month of February 2020 on the marsh side of the Plantation. Third year in a row. As always, a wonderful stay. We find everyone here to be friendly and welcoming. The wait staff at all the restaurants on the island we experienced were universally wonderful, even at restaurants that were average from a cuisine perspective.

Cautionary note: Amelia Island has many roundabouts and very very few people know how to use them correctly. So, beware and be careful. For whatever reason, Americans just simply do not know how to use roundabouts.

Relaxing

By LizA1049 |

Such a relaxing atmosphere....welcome change from the hustle of LA. The Omni has a lovely stretch of walk that extends to this beach.

Nice FLA beach..Cold in December.

By Matt P |

Walk this nice quiet beach in FLA. Didnt find any shark teeth. The beach isnnt crowded at all. We walk on it for only an hour. Wish we had more time and wish the weather was better.

A step back in time ....

By FLworldwanderer |

Downtown Fernandina Beach offers the visitor shops, restaurants, museums, and places of interest. Some of the shops are touristy, but after all, it's an area for tourists. Free parking along the main street provides shade, as well as convenience to the area. Spend some time walking in the immediate area, then drive along the back streets to soak up the local residential community. Several old buildings have been restored, and fit into the overall plan.

A Fairly Average Beach

By Oldjack |

This was a typical beach you find along the coast with good sand expanses and fairly murky grey water. This beach allows cars to drive on the sand which is a little off. There are much better beaches around.

Fernandina Beach

By Toni D |

A beautiful, quaint little town that abounds with history. Historical downtown is lined with old buildings, including the oldest bar in the state of Florida, lots of neat little shops and great restaurants. Whether you want to shop or just stroll thru this town and admire the old buildings, it's worth going and spending at least a day there. Don't forget to step inside the beautiful St Peter's Episcopal Church and admire the beauty of the stained glass windows and woodwork while you are walking.

Top Florida Vacation Destination

By Thomas |

What a fun place to vacation. Great beach, wonderful restaurants, beautiful downtown and great places to stay. This is our top destination in Florida! Never disappointed

Fernandina a hidden gem of a town

By Dennis Wheeler |

Downtown Fernandina is quaint with many excellent gift shops, fudge and candy shops .
Been coming to Amelia Is for 20 years never explored Fernandina a hidden gem of a town , will visit again next year but make it priority to visit the town

beach trip

By billy b |

very uneven beach, lots of broken shells, hard to walk without a limp to one side, water was nice, tide comes way up stayed about mid beach area, may be different at other areas, but as far as Amelia Island, love the downtown area, nice quaint town, lots of eats, stores, but most things close early, but it could have been seasonal. was there early May

Quaint

By Ardonis G |

Small town but rich with history. Be sure to catch the sunset at the marina as well as try the restaurants.

Charming little beach town!

By UGA1 |

This is just a great little town to visit along with it's marina. Most of the buildings are all original and there are so many different options for shopping as well as dining. We visit each time we go to Amelia Island!

Where is the beach?

By CanuckAlberta |

Super cool, quaint historic town that is worth a visit, but there is no beach here. Also the town is sandwiched between a pulp mill(which stinks depending on wind direction) and a saw mill. The best beaches are on the other side of the island(main beach is 2 miles away) so consider what kind of activities you are looking for before you book accommodation in Fernandina Beach.

Beautiful Town

By exitramp |

Fernandina Beach was a very relaxing town with many shops and restaurants to explore. Driving up and down the streets looking at the very nice old houses was very enjoyable.

Great fishing pier

By Steven S |

Nice beach access and fishing pier. About a 1/2 mile long the pier has great views. You can park and access the beach from the pier. Town near by is quaint and has plenty of shops and food. The pier is handicapped accessible.

Get Rid of the Cars!

By krabypatty |

This could be an amazing beach... however the cars driving on the beach ruined it. Not only does it pollute and destroy the beach it bring in an undesirable element. Very disappointed

Lunch and Shopping

By Smith-Hartman |

This town takes great pride in perception. Their streets are clean, street parking is the way of it in this Historic town. A few store's offer general clothing, others have very popular tourist chotzy buys. Not much for kids unless there's a holiday celebration. Many places for foodies. That's exactly why we came. Prices for the restaurant's are definitely affordable. However, plan on spending $100.00 per couple for the day. No charge for parking. We drove from 60 miles away and with gas at $2.55 per gallon - it adds up. Totally worth it! We will be back.

I loved all the shells!!

By kiki012006 |

I stopped here for a quick visit on my way to Orlando and it was nice. Me and my fiancé have been trying to spend lots of time together lately and he loves the beach! We enjoyed it a lot my only problem was not having enough time there, but I will def. be back very soon maybe for the 4th of July!

Excellent get away beach

By shagnat |

I loved the friendly atmosphere and serenity the beach provided. It was very nice, great for couples, ok for families. I will definitely be going back soon.

Off the Beaten Path of Barrier Islands

By Katy502 |

We spent a wonderful week exploring Amelia Island. It is a true gem! While most beaches are overcrowded and chocked full of tourist, Amelia has a plenty of room to move around. It is easy to drive through the beach areas and find parking. We arrived on Saturday and by Sunday afternoon, most of the weekenders are leaving. Downtown has kept its turn of the century style. If you are into history, make sure you take the trolly tour; it is well worth it. The location also makes it ideal for day trips to other barrier islands like St. Simon.

Like the Three Bears, This Island is "Just Right"

By Gloria S |

We moved here two years ago because St. Simons was too busy, Jekyll was too sleepy, but Fernandina Beach and Amelia Island were Just Right. Plenty of restaurants, hotels, resorts, residences, beaches, and activities, including good night life in downtown and at other areas on the island.

Wonderful horse ride Surprise

By nietras |

This is such a long Peaceful beach and very neat! I had a very great experience riding along the beach in the early AM

Nice beach

By Katherine |

We visited 2 different beaches and preferred Main Beach. There were areas to rinse off and clean public bathrooms. Salt Restaurant is across the street. Nice beach.

READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO!

By Leslie |

Amelia Island was a wonderful vacation, but here’s what I wish I would’ve known before we went. If you stay on the beach (we stayed at the Ritz Carlton) NOTHING is within walking distance. It’s about a 20 minute drive to downtown Fernandina Beach where all the shops and restaurants are. You’ll need a car to get anywhere other than your hotel and there are almost no Ubers, no Lyfts, no cabs. We actually cancelled a couple of our downtown plans because it was so hard to get a ride. I wish we could’ve rented a car. Also, if you’re excited to eat at Salt, make a reservation now. It was completely booked up when we were there. We ate almost all of our meals at the pool bar. Not complaining. Eating by the ocean is always good!

Fernandina Beach Historic Downtown

By pesheff |

Rated as one of the best small coastal towns in the U.S., Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach are classic Florida. From the old historic downtown, to the nice beaches on the Atlantic side (multiple public beach access points along A1A once you enter town), this is what you would expect from a north Florida beach town. Great local eateries on Front Street and the various intersecting streets in the historic district. Easy access to I-95 and Jacksonville (south, about 30 minutes to downtown).

This would have been a five star review, if not for the two obsecenely out of place factories on either sides of the island - I think they are paper/pulp mills, and come with that characteristic sulfur smell which can blanket the island on calmer days. If you're staying close to the ocean, it seems to be less of an issue.

Great Beaches easy access

By HapyGuy7 |

These are some of the best beaches overall in Fl. Easy access mostly. Clean. The people here seem friendlier than some of the beaches on the Gulf side Even in January the water is clean

Beach was Beautiful, bathroom not so much

By llh101 |

This was the first time I've ever been to this beach. We parked in public parking, which was handy and sufficient. Attempted to change in the public bathroom, but it needed major attention. Strolled along the beach for a few minutes. It was pretty and clean. Music was playing and the beach. Restaurants and ice cream nearby.

Great beach and park

By Steve E |

The State Park offers a very reasonably priced day of fun and education. There is a fort there staffed w knowledgeable "soldiers" who tell you info from back in the day. Great beach for hunting sharks teeth...go early and as tide is going out. Also a nice nature trail. They rent bikes or take ur own. Nice picnic area w playground. The beach in town is very nice. We rented a condo so had a private beach area. Good food in the area also...Salty Dog bar and grill.

Great beach!

By Douglas M |

Amelia Island, clean beach, no it doesn't have shops or a boardwalk like the Jersey shore, yes you can drive on and park only within a certain location at Sliders restaurant. Excellent for walking, sitting, and playing in the water. Many of the beach houses are beautiful and some can be purchased for and into the millions. We love wintering here.

Both family- and couple-friendly

By Rodney B |

We love Amelia because of the slower pace and minimal commercialism. There are still many locally-owned businesses but you can still see the natural beauty of the town and the island. This town and Amelia Island, in general, are not overrun with tall condo buildings and chain restaurants.

Also, Amelia features more public beach access points that any place I have been. There are approximately 40 public access points. You can even "borrow" a free beach wheelchair for up to 7 days, just go to the City of Fernandina Beach website for details.

All of these and I have never seen the beach over-crowded. There always seems to be plenty of space to accommodate everyone.

NOT MUCH TO DO IN JANUARY...COME IN WARMER WEATHER

By Donna W |

Fernandina Historic District is a 50 block area located at the north in end of Amelia Island. It is called Old Town Fernandina and is 209 years old! We walked around on a chilly 32 degree day and saw some of the outstanding architecture. Only a few of the shops were open... a boutique, a coffee shop, a few restaurants, and a couple of antique stores. This would be a wonderful place to tour in the warmer weather! You can do private tours or go on your own. Be sure to stop at the Welcome Center/Historic Train Depot on the corner of Front and Center Streets and get a beautiful booklet with all the info. about the 42 buildings. This area is on the National Register of Historic Places, by the way.

Great beach

By Melissa H |

Beautiful beach. Warm water. There were very little people on the beach, so it was practically a private beach. Walked for miles. Loved watching the dolphins play.

Beautiful

By Kris T |

This beach was so beautiful , not too crowded , full of sea shells a lot of fun . There are a few eating spots in the area as well .

Beachs

By Jimmy S |

We love the beach it is amazing quiet and relaxing fantastic historic district that is a must see plenty of places to rent or even stay in a hotel

Visit with Nephew and Great Nephew

By Spencerml |

The beach was amazing! It was very relaxing and not crowded at all. Every time I go there I fall in love more and more! The sunrises are amazing to watch. Highly recommend the beach!

A quaint historic town

By Bob S |

My wife and I stayed in Amelia Island near the beach for our vacation, but Everytime we have been up in this area, walking down Centre St. with it's many shops and places to eat is a treat.

Stores range from souvenir shops to apparel to books and Christmas items. Anyone of Irish/Scot/Welsh ancestry should visit Celtic Charm.

See my review of LeClos for 5 star restaurant.

This place hearkens back to days gone by when everything was lived at a much slower pace.

Amazing long unspoiled beach on a barrier island

By Robt C |

This is our 3rd time here. The beach goes on and on. And that is a good thing. Very uncrowded. We walked over 5 miles on it the other day. The beach is nicely wide. There are many well marked entry points and the beach is accessible to all. It continues north into the wonderful clinch state park.

Loved this pretty beach town

By ellenkay |

Don't miss seeing a turtle nest excavation if you are on the island during July August September --- the Amelia Island Sea Turtle watch posts the schedule about 3 days out; a trained volunteer lets people watch while they dig up turlte nests around 3 days after the baby turtles have emerged and gone to sea; they count the eggshells, unhatched eggs, any remaining live or dead hatchlings... it was facinating and a real treat for any sea turtle lover to see... they have a 90percent hatch rate on Amelia island which is fantastic. The one we observed was a loggerhead nest around beach access area 16N, just up from Main Beach. The folks doing it were very well versed about the turtles. The beach is wide , beautiful and clean. The water is a little murky but that is typical for Atlantic coast beaches... perhaps not great for swimming but nice for walking, people watching, bird watching, sun bathing... they also let you drive on the beach but honestly I don't think it is a good idea, especially for the turtles! It is a clean beach; saw little or no trash. Supposedly you can find fossil sharks teeth here but we looked and came up zero. Maybe next time!

Best of Old Florida & Charm

By guyr777 |

Best of class old Florida with exquisite dining or casual fair. Pleasant people, Sunsets, Boating, Fishing, Beaches and adventure. Treasures include Fort Clinch and Bone Yard Beach

Spring Break.

By Luke S |

Great shell hunting and nice and clean. Family-friendly. Our only complaint was lack of access to restrooms.

Too Honky Tonk For Me.

By Bob C |

The beach is very nice and there are a few quaint shops in town. But overall this end of Amelia Island is not for me.

We loved the area, we will be going back!

By PinkCat14 |

We found this area of Florida to be the best. We were visiting relatives for the first time and stayed in the Fernandina Beach area. It was clean, easy to get around. A very nice place to visit.

Lovely beach

By DEBRA P |

This beach is about a 5 minute walk from the hotel. It's very beautiful. We visited the weekend before Irma. The water was warm and the waves were hugh.

Second year in heaven

By Barbara T |

We visited Fernandina Beach last year for one month. This year we’re back for two months. We’re talking now about returning next year for three months. This beach is pristine and a great place for swimming, sun bathing and walking our dogs, who play in the surf on leashes!

Friendly Folks

By Jane Marie Malcolm |

An historic seaside town with a beautiful beach, Fernandina make a great family destination as well as a place for couples or anyone wanting to escape.

Great gorgeous beach!

By evernie |

Wide, beautiful white sandy beach ! Unspoiled and not too built up has Breathtaking sunrises and sunsets can be viewed. Just 4
Hour drive from the capital of SC and just off of I-95. Very convenient.

Our favorite for the area

By Jo Anna A |

We go here once or twice every year. Easier free parking to acess than many beaches in and around Savannah area without driving a whole lot further. More options such as putt putt, playgrounds, skate park, restrooms, pavilions, benches and picnic tables all for free, first come first served. Great shopping options and restaurants nearby also. Quiet town, not too busy.

Amelia Island

By edfromohio2016 |

The beach was very nice -not as crowded as other beaches -life guards present-dog friendly where we were - our hotel was on the beach-offered lounges and umbrellas -restful- able to walk out waist deep without any issues

Three nights on the Island

By DK47 |

We enjoyed our stay on the island. Loved some of the restaurants where we dined. Easy to walk everywhere from The Blue Heron. We did a lot of walking. Just extremely hot. Would return in the fall or early spring.

Beach Bash

By Bonnie C |

Attended the "parrot head" event
last weekend. The Days Inn was a great venue. Our room was good and the pool area was great. We pretty much was able to utilize it totally with our group. The rooms for registration and viewing of raffles and silent auction was more than adequate. My group did not have any problems as far as I knew.Availability of restaurants and activities close to the hotel we more than adequate, also. Overall we had a very enjoyable weekend.

Paradise in North Florida

By jjeadie |

We very much enjoyed our visit to family here in Fernandina Beach as it’s very peaceful and quiet. The public beach is long and sandy. The historic downtown is a marvelous hidden treat so to speak as the town is definitely off the beaten path. Everything you could want or need appears to be within walking or cycling distance. We look forward to visiting again soon.

Clean beach but not much to do

By Mary D |

The beach was clean and close to our motel, but there were not many hotels along the beach. Any shopping that you wanted to do, you had to go inland.

Beautiful Beach

By DaleS820 |

The beach is well maintained and the life guards really bring their A-game. For my taste, it wasn't crowded and even if you get there late in the morning, you can still find a nice spot all to yourself.

GREAT SOUTHERN RESTORED TOWN!

By Frank Williams |

Amelia Island is amazing..Clean, perfect in every way. Fernandina Beach is the main "Town" on Amelia Island. It is a restored, normal, not turisty Town. The people are amazing and real Southern polite. Many great Restaurants, no chains on the Island. We stayed at the Omni how do you say PERFECT. We stayed at their Sandcastles Villas, amazing beach front and beach views that will keep you coming back. We stayed at Sandcastles Villa #315. It was new and had a Hampton decor...clean and classy. Best View of all the Villas.

A Gem

By Neelat B |

We stopped at Fernandina Beach as an overnight stop on our way to Savannah. The sunrise over the beach is just stunning with the most amazing array of birds that flock the area. Definitely worth a stop just to experience this

Many access points to beach

By Tucker50 |

I spent many hours walking the beach and doing a bit of shelling. There were lots of different types of birds. The beaches as marked regarding safety for going in the water - rip currents, jellyfish, etc. The beaches are not crowded since it is essentially an island with endless beach. In selected areas vehicles with permits can park on beach but there aren't many and they are not obtrusive.

Moon Photo Spot

By Gatorartlady |

Great beach to watch moon rise over the ocean and take photos. Lots of parking, picnic tables and benches are available. Outdoor showers are a great way to rinse off the sand before you go home. Great spot to see migrating birds and hunt for sharks teeth.

Not the cleanest beach

By TeresaA_IN |

The city access beach allows cars. Many cars and trucks tailgating with party tents. Not sure whether loose dogs are allowed, but we saw plenty. If you want a quiet beach or one you feel comfortable letting kids play in the sand, this beach isn't a best bet.

Deceptive

By JoeB |

Do not book a room at Amelia Island Vacations/Dunlop Properties or Terraces at beachside! The are thieves
They permitted me to make a reservation. Only after they secured payment from the credit card company they notified me they were not permitted to allow me to stay because of the Covid-19 restrictions. They refused to refund the money.
Yes you can make a reservation. thanks for your money but you can't stay here and no you can't have your money back.
I have stayed on Amelia Island before and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere but the thieves at this property have soured my desire to come back.

Lagniappe restaurant

By licarfan |

Great service. Mediocre food. We had catfish and grouper which were both average at best. The appetizers were good: oysters with breadcrumbs and spices and smoked salmon. Hummingbird cake was average. Also they offered only absolute or finlandia vodka for my vodka gimblet. I usually order grey goose or kettle one ,they had neither.

The best beach in N.E. Florida.

By Dory310 |

Gorgeous white sand , beautiful dunes ,nice amount of beach .. Great soft waves . Dolphins sim through in pods , pretty close to shore . Go to the Amelia Island Sea Turtle Watch website for their Excavation Schedule. Definitely attend these . To see the turtles they rescue and watch them make it to the sea , is adorable.

Beautiful beach

By Tammy van Oordt |

We went out early to take a walk on this beautiful beach which was a great idea. The beach is clean and you can walk for miles if you are up to it. A popular beach but because it is so vast people are easily spread out and there is no feeling of crowds. The water is warm and it was refreshing to see families happily enjoying the beach, people exercising and dogs enjoying the surf. A must visit if in the area

great little island with most anything you want to do on vacation

By John M |

great area. plenty of parks, restaurants and shops. if you stay downtown by the river you can pretty much walk everywhere downtown. only problem i had was most places were closed early or were closed mondays and tuesdays. when we were there.

i did talk with a local and they said they have a problem finding employees so could not be open full time.

Wedding

By Tara E |

I was there at the beginning of November for a friends wedding. Nice hotel! Beach across the street. Elizabeth at the front desk was friendly and knowledgeable of places to eat. Breakfast was ok could be better. We would definitely come back!

Getaway week with friend

By MicciPueblo |

Loved the area, great food, sights, and perfect weather. Very low key for Florida, first time this far north and will come back. The beaches are not crowded, a plus for me.

Shell less

By Patricia M |

Love the beach, but there are no seashells to speak of. That is not good for an avid beachcomber. Crowd was small so that was nice. Found a nice horse shoe crab shell!

Mellow swelter

By William McC |

Visited here in the midst of a June heat wave. Well-maintained beach, professional lifeguard detail, sparkling waters, user-friendly parking options, and ample restaurant choices took the edge off an otherwise hellacious day. Especially appreciated were the shaded shelters over portions of the boardwalk, which combined with the breeze offered some much-needed restorative natural air conditioning. A nerve-soothing mellow vibe abounded, presenting an interesting contrast to the cheerfully dissolute but sometimes frantic atmosphere in Key West, at the opposite end of the Sunshine State.

Nice Beach

By Lance M |

Fernandina Beach is very long and clean. Not much in the way of places to eat right on the beach. Good beach for relaxation and convenient to get to.

Island life

By Jocke B |

This layed back island just outside Jacksonville is well worth a visit. Check out the historic city centre where the American shrimp industry apparently started way back. Lots of amazing restaurants and fun small shops. Excellent sea food. Beautiful beaches with amazing sand. (Stay out of the water after 5pm.)

Best vacation home Island Time Hideaway

By xrayer1 |

We love Amelia Island and this year we booked with VRBO for Island Time Hideaway. The house was awesome, clean, well stocked and peaceful! The owner was so very helpful in getting my booking adjusted due to the COVID-19 mess!! We have been going for 9 years and this has by far been the best experience! Please look for them and you will not regret it!!!

Great relaxing experience

By Edward B |

Great relaxing experience for any age. The area hosts many inviting restaurants. activities and shopping in a friendly old town atmosphere.

Great place to visit.

By whimisical |

This was our first visit and have lived in FL over 35 years! And we loved it. Great restaurants and a variety of priced hotels. Wonderful quiet beaches. Fabulous downtown with shopping! Don't wait as long as we did!

Gorgeous

By Kellie K |

The beach was gorgeous, the water was relatively calm, and so many shells for collecting. Hardly any people so was a perfect month to go.

Going off seaon, Fernandina Beach was just beautiful.

By Lisa D |

the beach is beautiful and not commercialized. Very quaint and perfect for a relaxing stay. I would definitely plan to visit again.

Will go back soon,

By CPeeke |

Enjoyed every thing about this historic and laid back town. It is very walkable and not crowded. Shops were very interesting and not of the typical tourist type junk.

Pretty town at the northern tip of Amelia Island, with plenty of shops and restaurants

By Tony F |

We stayed at the Amelia Island Plantation resort, and drove into Fernandina Beach to see the town and attend Mass. Charming community, with a main drag full of shops, including a good used book store, and restaurants. Take your time and drive around the town and see the many lovely buildings and homes. There is an historic site about 10 minutes north of town, but there's almost nothing to see there.

Weekend in Amelia Island

By Michele S |

On our way driving back to NY from Florida we stopped in Amelia Island. Cute town beautiful beaches very pet friendly food food around. Only downside is weather was cold and rainy probably not a place to go in February if your looking for warm weather and swimming.

Pretty area, nice beaches

By Diane G |

This is a nice area, and lots of shops in town and access to the beaches. Nice town and area, and a great place to relax.

Average Beach

By TravelingTrio |

This beach has so many cracked and broken shells, you do not want to be barefooted if you like walking on the beach that way. The water was very calm and a kid friendly environment.

Great Spring break

By Pat C |

The beaches here are so beautiful it is hard to describe them. I am originally from central FL where it's hard to find a space to spread out a beach towel, so I was delighted at the"lack" of patrons and the size of the beach! My grandson and I had a wonderful 4 days searching for sand dollars and shark teeth--we were lucky on both finds. This little town is like a picturesque mountain town only on a beach theme-haha. My husband and I retired to the NC mountains but are seriously considering purchasing a place here as well to be able to become snowbirds just to enjoy all Amelia Island to offer.

Florida's Peaceful Island

By Frank Williams |

Fernandina Beach is a Small beautiful Town on the North end of Amelia Island Florida. Down town is on the Marsh (marina) side of the island. The beach side is about 2 miles East. We have visited every part of the Georgia and Florida coasts. Amelia Island was so special.. It's an Island that is made up of Amazingly friendly people, Moss covered trees, Tall Palms, great weather all year (January and February will be around 70-75 degrees), fine restaurants, bordered by the most beautiful Florida State parks (Amelia Island State park, with views you will never forget, Big Talbot and Little Talbot State parks, which are 100% nature preserves).
It has preserved it's "Southern" roots as well. The beaches are never crowded, in fact, most of the time, the beaches are sparsely populated. To the North of Amelia is Cumberland Island GA. If you want to cap off your Amelia Trip, go to Cumberland Island. The Ferry leaves from St. Marys Georgia. Amelia Island is a magical place.. NOT South Florida, NOT Orlando... NOT Tampa. Amelia is what Florida should be, Warm, clean, beautiful and relaxing. We are hoping to live there someday soon.

Paradise

By alhd1959 |

This beach was a delight- clean, not crowded, comfortable and worth the drive!
The sunrise, the moon rise and it’s viewing was amazing.
To see the waves roll in, to watch the change in tides and feel the sand between my toes was the greatest sights, sounds and feel in the world.
Beautiful!

h2o private boat tour/Amelia Island, Fernandina beach to Cumberland Island and the wild horses and Dungeoness ruins.

By cynthia e |

We had Capt. Beth for our guide. She was FABULOUS! So knowledgeable about the area and fun facts for my teens. We are frequent visitors to Amelia Plantation but this was our first boat trip.... .It Was FABULOUS with Capt. Beth. Would do it again 100 times!

Loved this area!

By janelynn2018 |

Beach was extremely clean, water clear and a great beach. I found the people there visiting and also staying at the hotel felt the same way, that it was a very nice beach with upscale shops

Beach vacation

By Olivia P |

Fernandina Beach is beautiful, and clean! We never have problems with overcrowding here. It's pet friendly, there are lifeguards, and the area has much to offer! We always have a great time here.

Quaint and beautiful

By VaBeachSheryl |

I researched this for my sisters bday with her hubby. They loved it. Their hotel on beach was great and mgr was helpful. Walking tour was great. At xmas time it's like Charles dickens tale.

Take your dog!

By L W |

Fabulous, wide, clean beach with few people and dogs are permitted on leash. Truly a wonderful beach that you could walk for miles. We also rode our bikes and it was smooth and easy. Across from our condo were little tide pools which were perfect for kids to safely play in. One of the best beaches in Florida!

beautiful and quiet

Love Fernandina Beach

By ms_evil_2u |

I used to live here. I moved away 7 years ago abs miss it. The people are friendly. Love going to Bealls. The downfall is all the restaurants cloae top early. We went to chilies off the island and it was great.

Love living here.

By tobytovar |

This is a great area to live in. Actually Fernandina Beach was only on Amelia Island with Yulee being off Island. Then a golf course was designed by Tom Fazio and I understand he wanted it in Fernandina Beach not Yulee so the city limits were changed. There are a lot of wonderful neighborhoods in the area as well as a theatre, Publix, Walmart, and many great restaurants. It is a quick 5 mile trip to Amelia Island. Fernandina Beach has some good off Island fishing spots including Goffinsville Park off Nassauville Rd.
Once on the island there are great beaches and of course Historical Downtown Area with numerous shops and restaurants. Visit here and you too will fall in love with the area.

Not even close

By JohnT01Traveler |

The beach itself seemed to be ok but the elements around it doesn’t. Lower class and trashy people we experienced a must skip

History Plus Beach

By Jane Marie Malcolm |

With a 50 block historic district and clean beaches only semi-crowded on holidays, Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island, Florida is the perfect place to vacation for a weekend or a week. So many activities to do and great eats all over the old timey downtown. Folks are nice, too.

Site seeing

By Patricia S |

We had no idea we was gonna end up at this place. But just standing around eating and taking about the fun things we did and will do this summer cant wait to get back to the fun.. Next time we will have the kids

Really liked the historic downtown

By OldGuido |

Old houses, lots of dining opportunities, Victorian homes, Spanish moss, graveyards, nice wide sidewalks. Atlantic St is walkable, lots of shops, art, food, historical properties.

Quaint and Beautiful

By tamaraleek |

I love this quaint island. It's large enough to offer great shopping/food and small enough to be inviting. I never leave here dissatisfied. We walked the beach and ate at an ocean-side restaurant. Relaxing and exhilarating.

QUIET BEACHS

By Gene S |

There are a few condos on the beach, but mostly private homes. If you want hustle and bustle...Go some where else. IF YOU WANT PEACE AND QUIET... THIS IS YOUR BEACH...Our beach view was phenomenal and we already booked for next year.

Sweet beach

By Celia T |

Great sand. Clean beach, restaurant nearby. Dog friendly, can drive right on the beach. Great for long walks or bike riding on the beach.

Wide Beaches With Lots of Public Accesses

By gdt655 |

Fernandina Beach has very wide beaches, even when the tide is coming in, and at some points, you can drive on the beach. Regardless, there are many public beach accesses, both walkways and parking areas, and plenty. A great beach to enjoy swimming, sunning, or surf fishing.

Plenty of bars and restaurants on the north end of Amelia Island along the beaches, and several hotels and B&B's. A family friendly beach area dominated by homes, low rise condos and hotels. Not wall to wall high rise concrete condos! Rental condos and homes are plentiful as well. Vacation Rental By Owner (VRBO) is a good website to locate a condo or home on Amelia Island or at Fernandina Beach.

While there are plenty of restaurants, pubs, and hotel/rentals, the beach is not the typical "teenager" beach of spring break fame. It is more of a family oriented beach with the amenities described. Also, lots of history in the historic downtown Fernandina, Fort Clinch State Park, and nearby Cumberland Island (GA). Lots to do besides the beach within just a couple of miles.

Great place to relax and enjoy.

Beautiful!!!

By Z9310YVkarent |

Oh my goodness! We visited this beach for the first time in June. This beach is amazing! It is not crowded at all! The sand is like the sand you put in an hour glass, so soft. It is very clean and has small waves for young kids to play in. I have found my new vacation spot for next year and years to come.

What a great Beach!

By mrtoo1973 |

We stayed in Fernadina Beach 3 nights and enjoyed walking the beach morning and night all 3 days and nights! It’s a little quieter beach then some of the bigger beaches and we loved it!

A beautiful town

By Yvonne S |

Beautiful area with lots of walking and biking trails. Downtown buildings are all open and have a variety of different things to buy

Not to be missed

By PeeDeeR |

This is a beautiful area from the lovely town to the beautiful beaches. You can find everything you need to rejuvenate yourself.

Find a hotel and stay a few days to really get the feel. You'll probably want to come back.

Great restaurants, history abounds and do not miss the white sandy beaches. Unbelievable!

Sweet and Historic

By Ginger R |

The old downtown is still bustling, with shops and eateries in the restored buildings. Peek into the old courthouse. If it's a quiet day and you're lucky, you may get a quick tour of the building from one of the sheriff's officers on duty.

To the beach with granddaughter hunting sea shells

By laladbreez |

We went one cloudy morning to hunt shells. That didn't last long as granddaughter wanted on the ocean. :-)
The beach was very clean and also very beautiful even though cloudy.
We will return when we get back that way.

Quiet and not crowded

By mfos16 |

Plenty of room for a large group. Not many people around. We were in during the week. Decent sand and LOTS of shells to pick through.

Month long stay

By B G |

This beach is by far my favorite beach in all of Florida!
The beach is not crowded, the sand is fine, the opportunity to look for sharks teeth is there, and the surf is great.

Laid back and Quaint

By Jim W |

There are three public beaches at Fernandina Beach(Amelia Island). If you have four wheel drive, you can drive on two. At Peter's Point, certain times horseback riding is available and it is a drive on beach. There's a small beach by Sliders which is my favorite. It's a small drive on beach walking distance to Sliders Bar and Restaurant. Great place for outdoor dining, occasional live music, even a barbecue if your lucky. Main Beach has a restaurant on the beach being remodeled at present. It used to be Sandy Bottoms, but I heard it will be reopening under a different name, hopefully in May. There is also a park with a picnic area, an ice cream stand and I think mini-golf will be opening up again shortly. Fernandina Beach is a step back to a nicer more pleasant time. Don't miss Centre Street. There's always something going on there!

Paradise!

By Ashley S |

We are locals who like to pretend we're always on vacation. The sunset cruises from the marina downtown, tours, jet skis, drive on beach, delicious one-of-a kind restaraunts, kayaking, paddle boarding, hiking, Fort Clinch, Ritz Carlton, Beach sunrises and River sunsets make this place paradise to play, eat, relax and take in the beauty all around. Come visit us in FL !

beautiful

By 637miriamp |

spectacular beach..Highly recommend it. Family friendly. Quiet and clean beach.....we loved the historical downtown area.....Easy free parking....

Beautiful, relaxing beach

By ALT |

This beach was a surprise. Not only is it wide and beautiful, but it is unique in that it is not as crowded and crazy as so many of the Florida beaches. (We are Florida residents and are accustomed to crowds and difficult, expensive parking!) Although we walked to the beach from our nearby hotel, parking in the immediate area seemed relatively easy and there is also the option of parking on the beach. Overall, we found Fernandina Beach easy to navigate and very relaxing. We will be back!

Great Quiet Beach

By Lisa B |

We stayed right on Fernandina beach in a house off of South Fletcher. Beach was quiet, great breeze and beautiful. Saw dolphins and meet some super friendly locals. Loved our visit.

Pleasant historic town.

By Steve P |

Cutest, most vibrant town I have visited in a long while. Active, but not crowded. Virtually every storefront is occupied which can be unusual in small towns. MANY historic buildings remain.

History riverside gem

By Roam747733 |

Quaint, walkable historic town. Be sure to stop at the visitors center as they are very helpful getting around the entire island. Parking is plentiful as are benches. Filled with eateries and shops it’s a great little river town.

Very nice and clean beach

By TOURtheWORLDMexPal |

One of the best beaches in South Carolina and Northern Florida.
Clean and well maintained
Safe even at the dark hours
If you are looking for a beach property, consider Fernandina before Myrtle beach

Nice big beach but the water is a little rough.

By GranvilleBrian111 |

This beach is huge! You are allowed to drive on a little part of it if you have four wheel drive. It is really fun to sit there and watch the idiots get stuck. I bet they average 10 idiots a day that get stuck. The water is a little rough for small children but perfect for boogie boards or surfers. The water was very warm the three days we were there and great for swimming.

Loved the Beach..

By Cheryl H |

First visit. Rode 4 wheel drive out on beach.. Awesome trip..The beach is beautiful..So clean...was not crowded...
Will definitely be back...

Nice beach

By Clevlander |

This is a very nice secluded beach close to the downtown Area of Amelia Island. The beach is beautiful for walks and goes on for several miles. Definitely a relaxing and beautiful afternoon stroll.

OK

By BubbleMarker |

The town of Fernandina Beach is quite nice; small but has enough businesses to make it comfortable. More people are moving here which is making the town grow faster than most people are comfortable with. If you want to be near a beach yet have lots of conveniences I suggest you go to Jax beach or St Augustine.

Great public beach

By Sand D |

We spent a few hours here with 5 teenagers. Beautiful clean beach. Strong waves. Water was cold. Maybe not the best swimming for small children. Not crowded. Public restrooms at the parking lot. We arrived at 11 and parking was almost full. You can park on the beach with your 4WD but don’t try it with your regular minivan! We watched a guy struggle to get onto and then back off the beach for two hours!! Dogs allowed.

Fernandina Beach

By Joyce K |

Main beach is really lovely. There are benches along a sidewalk where you can just relax and watch the waves.
There are rest rooms, out side showers, playground equipment, and a walkway down to the beach.
There is plenty of free parking, and minature golf is available.

Awesome Area!

By GAFamilyTraveler |

Awesome quaint beach, not crowded at all during our Memorial Day weekend trip. Our hotel was located across the street and it's near plenty of places to eat. Love the area and can't wait to go back again!

Great vacation

By kennith o |

My wife, daughter and I visited Fernandina beach over the summer and had a great time. We were pleasantly surprised when we saw how uncrowded the beaches were. We live in South Carolina and like the beaches there, but they have become so popular that it is hard to enjoy them. We are history buffs and decided to take a carriage tour of the quaint downtown area. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and told us a lot of ghost stories. We also learned lots of interesting facts about Amelia Island. If you are looking for a “hidden gem” then look no further. Amelia Island and Fernandina beach are excellent choices for a great and memorable family vacation.

Delightfully Secluded

By scottdean |

This is the second year we've stayed at the Comfort Inn & Suites on Amelia Island, just a block from the beach. It is quiet, clean, and full of open space. There is a bar, miniature golf, skateboard park, restrooms, and small park close to the beach. Compared to some of the more crowded beaches I have visited in Florida, this is a welcome relief.

Not crowded, lovely area!

By Victoria S |

My husband and I visited on Saturday and found the beaches entirely UNCROWDED. We were mystified! The sun was beautiful, the beach was gorgeous, and the water temperature was great! Free parking was also fairly easy to find. Aside from the beach and parking, shelling was not as good as we thought it would be. Strands of shells are on some parts of the beach and totally absent in most others. Amelia Island is supposed to be excellent for sharks teeth but we only found two in four hours. Other than that, we had a great experience!

Beaches

By Voyager5916 |

Some of the best beaches I've been to. Beautiful white sand beaches, lovely warm water and dolphins swimming close by! Heaven.

Awesome!

By Heather B |

We drove to Amelia Island Fernandina Beach from Brunswick. We traveled to see Jekyll, Sea, and St. Simons Islands, but none was what we expected and significantly disappointed us! They was dirty and murky to the point I felt unsafe swimming there. We traveled here and although it wasn't a clear water it was much, much, much better! The sand was soft and not muddy. The water didn't look like sewer water and had big beautiful waves. There was easy beach access, lifeguards, and it wasn't overly populated! We enjoyed it very much and it honestly turned our trip from horrible to fun!

Wonderful quiet beach area

By 518ATLCouple |

This is a great place to come and just relax. Great homes and condos available for rent on and across from the beach. Downtown area is great for dining and strolling. Laid back kind of place. Several places to view the sunset. Good tours available on land and sea. Nice museum and art galleries too. Something for everyone.

Plenty of parking

By thenfamily |

Beautiful Atlantic beach. Plenty of parking up and down A1A some with facilities others just access via footpath. Bring a chair, umbrella and a good book and enjoy!

Two thumbs up

By Vicki T |

We recently enjoyed a fantastic weekend at Fernandina Beach. From exploring the shops, eating wonderful food, building sand castles and collecting sea shells, and exploring Fort Clinch
The perfect long weekend getaway from Atlanta

Lovely, peaceful beach

By Vuopalat |

Very nice, long beach. Even though a seemingly popular place to be, it has none of the full-of-tourists feeling in it. Beach is great both for sun-bathing and for morning run, when there is only few people walking with their dogs. Beautiful and peaceful.

A beach close to amenities and an historic downtown

By J D |

While there might be beaches with whiter colored sand, this beach is close to all kinds of amenities and is very close to a quaint historic downtown with plenty of dining choices.

A nice walk

By Sissy M |

Beautiful place to be, can along the way and stand and look out at the water for hours, sometimes see boats passing by, wild life too I am sure, although I have seen any yet...lol, but not from lack of trying....

Nice beach but too many cars and trucks

By lovesthe60s |

Nice beach and not overcrowded but the large number of cars and trucks parked right on the beach make it less attractive.

A Wonderful Relaxing Beach

By kathi262016 |

The beach was beautiful and clean with sand as far as you could see going south and north. A perfect get away weekend from busy week.

Best Island in Florida to live ! and visit.

By Joe man C |

Fernandina is the historic down town on Amelia island Florida.. great restaurants, best in all North Florida.. Amazing Beaches, State Parks are a must... Fort Clinch St. Pk. and Amelia Island St. PK. do not miss the sunset cruise that leaves from Fernandina Beach Marina... it will take you to Cumberland Island GA. You will never forget this Cruise... We live on this beautiful Island and still take the cruise twice a year min.

The old Florida. History, quaint shops, great eats.

By oodude7 |

A pure escape. If you seek a quieter, less crowded Florida this is the place. Plenty of activities without the hype of big resorts and theme parks. My wife and I discovered that the Atlantic to Gulf railroad started here and ended at Cedar Key and made Florida an important state back in the 1800's. We had visited Cedar Key last year and hiked the old railroad bed.

Beautiful beach

By Paula C |

The beach was very nice and the hotel we stayed at was a short walk. The time of the year found it to be very quiet with few people. Very peaceful.

Great beach for all ages

By Allegirl |

This is such a great family beach. You can drive onto the beach for easy access but at the same time it isn't too crowded with cars. The shells are great too which kids would enjoy. Definitely one of my favorite east cost beaches.

Hidden gem!

By niecey55 |

It is somewhat secluded so at times you feel as if you have the beach to yourself. Lots of paths, hiking, and again nice for couples who want to get away.

Great Old Houses!!

By Gretchen M |

Nice place to wonder and think back. Very laid back and not crowded. Spend an afternoon strolling the streets

Neat beach town

By Dennis W |

The downtown area is full of shoppes and places to eat... jewelry to t-shirts to sweets to full menu restaurants. There are museums and old homes with stories galore. Art galleries abound almost on every corner. You can take tours of the historic district... some by horse and carriage. Plenty of places to stay... inland and along the beach. Fernandina has something for everyone.

Absolutely wondeful

Best Little Town in Florida

By Frank Williams |

Peaceful..quiet..Clean.. friendly. What can I say. Fernandina Beach , on the Northern tip of Amelia Island is Amazing. the sunsets over the marsh will stay with you forever. typical Southern charm and so friendly. This is not the Florida you think of. Amelia is unique, old Florida, and not spoiled by pushy people. those people go to South Florida. PLus.. Florida now has the lowest COVID rate of any east coast State. Thank you Gov. DeSantis,

lovely place to visit to avoid the people

By TimRiL |

This is a beautiful area to visit. Its downtown area is quaint with excellent shopping and restaurants. The beaches are pretty. Best of all you avoid the crowds, Easy drive to St. Augustine.

Nice beach

By Winnebago2010 |

The sand is nice and soft........walking along the beach we founda whole bunch of shells.....something to bring back home. I believe that when the surf is high and rough, it rings in the shells....again, nice beach worth the walk.

Relaxing getaway

By Kikki K |

Beach town at its best. Lots of little shops and restaurants in this seaside city. It’s beautiful and relaxing and charming.

The Northern City of Amelia Island

By Excursion825210 |

Fernandina Beach and Amelia City to the south are anathema to each other ! Fernandina was the first part of the island to be settled by our European forebears...French, Spainish, English..It is replete with history ! No one nation held firm to this area for long. The time when it was first settled reflects the dominant culture and their struggles/ battles with each other.. the famed Spanish Armada, the repugnant English Navy and the vaunted French fleet. Germans, Italians, Greeks, Swiss and other cultures settled this area in the more peaceful ensuing years. Children will revel in the Pirate history and lush beaches that abound !

Beautiful ocean beach community.

By willywhitetail |

We were visiting family in Florida and decided to stay on Amelia Island. Fernandina Beach was awesome! Clean, quiet and safe. Convenient parking available. We will definitely recommend to family and friends. Can't wait to go back!

Reminds me of Daytona

By Virginiasouthpaw |

Visited Fernandina Beach for the day. We happened to arrive at a parking lot and it's free parking. Visited a near by place "Sliders" for lunch and then walked down to the beach. It reminds me so much of Daytona Beach where you can drive on the beach. The white sandy beaches are wide and clean. Only a little crowded in the area that you can drive on the beach (you can not drive the whole beach), but just walk passed that area and there is lots of space.

Days off

By Paula B |

I really enjoy walking downtown on my days off. There are so many nice shops to check out. The library is a great place to relax. There is plenty of space, a nice little quiet area for reading and plenty of computers for everyone to use. Nice selection of movies.

Beautiful, quiet beach

By Chris N |

If you haven't been to Amelia Island, you're missing a Florida treasure. This is one of the nicest beaches anywhere. It's private and beautiful. There are lifeguards available. Highly recommended for everyone.

Beachy

By Lolly’s Look |

The beaches in Amelia are large white sandy beaches with ocean waves. Try combing the beach for sharks teeth.

Great visit with the pups!

By Sue A |

It is great to travel to a beach where our “fur kids” could enjoy a walk on the beach with us!
Most of Florida is so anti-dog, it was a great change of pace!
More places should realize that those who go to the trouble to travel with pets.. want them to enjoy as well!
Kudos Fernandina Beach!

Great for Families

By mstokes1953 |

We visited for 15 years and recently moved here. Love the family atmosphere, the friendliness and the great places to eat.

Always love coming here

Beautiful beach

Beach was outstanding. White sandy beaches. Great place to walk. Not too crowded. Waves not too big so they don't knock you down.

More than a tourist 'trap'

By janetn56 |

Amelia Island is not all about the tourist, as so many other islands and sea shores are. There are 2 paper mills that have operated on this island for a very long time. Don't be turned off, I was surprised to see them, but given how long people have made this their year round home, people have to have a way to make a living. Imported shrimp has hurt this island's economy, but the shrimp they do catch are well worth the price. I left after 2 days wishing for more, and feeling like I'd been to 'the keys' without the long drive

Fernandina beach

By Connector682227 |

Great trip. Variety of restaurants and shopping. Beautiful sunsets. Close to beaches. Friendly people in a nice town mixed with tourists. Great for couples and families.

We love Fernandina Beach

By Marc D |

Fernandina is a beautiful, friendly northern Florida beach town without the Florida feel. The downtown area has retained its historical charm and many of the original early 1900s homes are beautifully maintained. Excellent restaurants abound and shopping is interesting and varied along Center Street. A farmers market featuring local veggies, meats and plants abound. The beaches 5 minutes away are wide and clean and never very crowded.

Quaint, Cute & A Hidden Gem

By Dana JC |

The lure is Amelia Island, not sure why? Fernandina Beach hands down was much more enticing. The trendy restaurants and cute stores make this town a must see.... I was in town for business and preferred this town over the resort I would stay in for several days. Hampton Inn was great with an adorable pool up on the second floor. Try it, you'll love it.

5 stars for the area 0 stars for Jennifer Coleman

The one star is for Jennifer Coleman owner of Amelia To Go who was renting a room in her condo on San Remo dr. I paid her a $600 deposit to hold the room and remove the ad from the internet. Not only did she lie about removing the ad and behave erratically she refused to refund my money when I called it off. Do business with this unhinged lunatic at your own risk.

It has it ALL!

By FrenchIslandGirl |

This gem of an island has it all!! Great restaurants, shops, marina, nature trails, State parks, beaches, views, gorgeous live oak trees... and nice people! Love Fernandina Beach and Amelia Island!

Great family vacation

By Blondiemom3 |

Took a last minute long weekend trip and loved the area! Family friendly, a lot to do and the beaches were awesome. Will definitely be back.

Florida time

By Dame B |

Got a hotel right off the beach, I heard little things about the beach. Me and the family first time in Florida and we love this beach it wasn't crowded, everybody in this small town was nice no one was loud not a lot of party ongoing on. A very respect and family town

Kids love it!

By Lakeshia W |

The kids love it and I love the fact that you could bring your on food. We had a nice little pinic. I will be going again.

Great beach you can drive on!

By MKTravelingMed |

We could have walked from Hampton inn, which is about 300 yards, but WHY??! We have a Jeep and discovered That you are allowed to drive on the beach and park which we did. Further this is a dog friendly beach as long as they are leashes. But I found it is just a friendly beach in general. They have lifeguards present. You’re some waves are good for boogie boarding but you can walk a considerable distance not be more than waist to chest high in the water. Sliders Restaurant is close, and the city provides outdoor shower, restrooms. Enjoyed a nice day finding seashells and enjoyed the relaxing surf.

Super Beach

By Lucaspapa |

The beach is wide. It also runs for miles in both directions. Lots of good walking room! Access is easy from the Atlantic Ave parking lot and there very numerous other access points.

Can't get to the beach....

By khbeank |

The City of Fernandina Beach has closed twelve of its beach walkovers, after an engineer deemed them to be unsafe. We’re told three of them will need to torn down and completely rebuilt.

A city spokesperson tell our partner Action News Jax, the damage isn't from any recent storms, but from just normal wear-and-tear since the walkovers were built three decades ago.

Beachgoers tell Action News Jax, they see the importance of safety, but it would have been nicer if the issues had been resolved sooner.

"Would prefer it happen in December or January when no one is here and get it over with. Hopefully it’s done when people return for the warmer time," says Russ Hoff.

City leaders say they plan to meet Monday to discuss the needed repairs and lay out a timeline to get the work done.

All Ages Adventure

By GoBuckeyes123 |

A beautiful area with activities for young and old. Those who enjoy the sun or shade. We visited the farmers market and art crawl and found many items of interest. Adorable shops and restaurants. Lots of public access to clean beaches. Bikes are welcome and enjoy lovely trails and access. Old school Florida....nice people and nice options.

Relax on a clean beach

By btmobley13 |

This has to be one of the best places to go relax and enjoy the beach. The sand is like powder the beach is not commercialized to the point of over crowed but there is things to do. Whether your there with friends or family you will have a great time.

Beautiful quiet clean beach

By EL646 |

I have been to many beaches, but I really like this one. Plenty of places to access parking and you can drive on the beach if you like. The beach is so clean, very quiet and safe. I've been there at different times of the day, on different days of the week and some days are busier than others, but never too crowded. There are plenty of places to bike around the area, whether on the sidewalk or on a trail. The downtown historic area is just beautiful and quaint with lots of places to shop and dine.

Beautiful beach!

By fjriv |

Fantastic beach to just relax. The views of the Atlantic and the sand dunes are absolutely perfect. Can't wait to go back.

Relaxing

By Tai Carepa |

Pretty relaxing beach. You can drive right up the water if you drive a 4 wheel with no daily fees.
There are no umbrellas or chairs on the beach but you can rent everything right across the street at this local store called Beach Rentals, or bring your own and save some money!

Lovely little seaside village

By Barb B |

I grew up in a seaside village and have visited many others up and down the east coast but Fernandina far surpasses anything I have experienced. Great food, shopping, beaches and river cruises!

Nice Beach

By jfhjr |

Fernandina Beach is a long, wide, beautiful beach with gentle surf. It is not very crowded. You can actually drive your 4 wheel drive on the beach in certain areas.

Fantastic, relaxing vacation location

By kenw218 |

Ocean views, riverside and harbour views, river cruises and great eateries wherever you turn. You could not wish for a better place to unwind. The people were generous, kind and helpful, wherever we went. A great place to spend a vacation.

good place for a quiet vacation

By Bob G |

there is a variety of everything here. great restaurants in town. nice clean and safe beaches. nice rentals. there is a section of commercial places as well if you need a Starbucks, Walmart, grocery chains. but the place is planned well so that commercial, small town, marinas, skateparks and and beaches are all isolated from each other. very convenient and easy to acces from Jax airport. 45 minutes and you are there.

Beach, hotel, food places, tornado watch, and mugginess.

By teachtoread |

Loved the beach and the good places to eat. Walked our little doggie out to the water and took some cool photos with waves in background. Enjoyed getting ice cream near our hotel (Omni), and later Mexican food in downtown area. Hotel was mostly a good experience. Tornado watch during the night was not fun. Mugginess was a “thing” only cured by multiple showers.

Spectacular !

By Gary L |

I would like to start out by correcting a misconception that is conveyed from some earlier reviews.

I don't live in Florida; but I have been to the town and beaches numerous times over a number of years. The beach and the town are spectacular; great ambiance in town; lots to do without a lot of driving; and only a minor amount of traffic. Great local restaurants; and a historic district and dock area that are well kept and truly a gem.

As to clarifying the misconception: There are a number of reviews that speak to driving on the beach. Most or all of that is in a very narrow stretch of sand that is clearly marked. One of these is Seaside Park at the end of Sadler Road; very close to a number of hotels. I frequent this beach; and even here; driving is only allowed about a 100 yards up/down the beach; it's clearly posted; and honestly I've never seen a driver push the envelope and drive past the markers.

Fernandina Beach runs the east coast of the island; and there are numerous public access paths and some parking; where NO vehicle traffic is allowed. There are plenty of places where you can have peace and quiet.

What a great view of the Atlantic from this shoreline!

By Sherri M |

I was thrilled to catch the beautiful views of the Atlantic from the shores of Fernandina Beach. The sand is clean, the people are friendly. I didn't, however see a lifeguard.

Love the Beach!

By Jckosmala |

When our family moved away from the northeast to Atlanta, my father began his beach search. We visited many beach communities from South Carolina to Florida. Amelia Island/ Fernandina Beach was perfect for us. White sand, ocean waves, not too crowded at the beach, good downtown life, a truly peaceful place to be. I am glad that my family found it over 40 years ago!

Beautiful Place

By Sue C |

Did a day tip early June and definitely wish I had more time to spend there. The beach was beautiful, shops were fun. Definitely explore more next time.

My favorite Beach in North Florida!

By shadieplace |

Fernandina Beach is a great place to visit! It's my favorite beach in North Florida. There's a lot of history associated with this area and a lot of things to do. Plenty of restaurants, bars and shopping.....and of course, the beautiful beach. You can putt putt........visit Fort Clinch State Park........rent a scooter and just sightsee. Fernandina definitely has a small beach town feel. I could live there!!

Historic District

By Candace C |

This was a perfect day trip with my 80 year old Mom. We loved the shops and the history. You can find everything from antiques to fine clothing.

Weekend in Amelia's Island

By Martha Q |

The area is wonderful. Quite a few things to do and see. Due to Covid many things were closed. Out of all the places in FL I found this town to be less hospitable than most. The locals are kind of 'meh' (not all of course but many).
The beaches are fun (very hard to find shark teeth). The museum is really good. Antique shops are good too. Many good restaurants with good food.

Quiet Beach Area

By Daniel H |

This is a fantastic small town to relax and rest. Complete (local's) type of atmosphere...yet very inviting to anyone visiting. I truly hope it stays that way!

Great downtown and beaches!

By Douglas M |

While wintering in Fernandina Beach we love walking downtown with so beautiful shops and restaurants. The marine has a restaurant that is also very good. The entire Fernandina Beach community with its library, beaches, restaurants, resorts, and golf courses all make our time perfect.

Beautiful Beach

By MaureenT7224 |

This is a great beach - very wide and flat - comfortable for walking or jogging for miles. There are ample access points. Beautiful views and lovely homes to look at too!

Family time

By Greg W |

Great time at the beach. Although it was overcast and wound raining on us, we had a great time in the water and playing with the grandkids on the beach. Cant wait to come back.

Beach was PAINFUL

By Hb148 |

We visited on our way out of town from Atlantic Beach (which was wonderful). My nine year old son and I made it out about three feet into the water before the pain from millions of broken shells was too excruciating to continue walking. The entire beach was covered in tiny and broken shells! The waves were bringing in thousands more each time the water hit the shore, to the point that the water was chunky brown with shells. It felt like walking on broken glass, so we stayed for about 20 minutes before leaving. It was unbearably painful and so disappointing! My feet still hurt an hour later! But I highly recommend the Amelia River Cruises that are located in Fernandina Beach! Wonderful boat cruise that redeems the beach trip!

charming town

By Jere' J |

must see. lovely charming city with fine restaurants and beautiful beaches. great for family activities

Lovely and layed back

By janettimm |

This area is a lovely laid back region with miles of beaches to walk. Lots to do in the historic district.

Great Beach

By Lr H |

Awesome small feel beach.
Very friendly locals, extremely clean and well maintained.
Great shower at awesome pavilion.
Very safe at night as we walked late at night to see turtles.
My sister and I first visit here: was a trip to remember our Mom who loved Amelia.

Secluded.. almost like a beach of your own

By Vegetarian101 |

Lovely beach..soft white sand for miles and miles that the eye can see. Indescribable sunrises..so awesome! Best partof this perticular beach, for me,were all the pooches, and their very down-to-earth friendly humans. Enjoyed watching them frolic off-leash, so well-behaved and oh so delightful! Made friends with Ana, a seven year old black Labrador who was on a mission, retrieving her rubber ball. Been to many beaches but foundt this one to be most welcoming to pooches..for that reason alone, would visit Amelia Island again.

Beautiful beach, except for the trucks

By Pablo T |

I still don't know why they let 4x4 trucks on the beach. It turns a beautiful, peaceful place into a trailer (trash) park. I would seriously consider going back to Amelia Island, if it wasn't for this unpleasant factor.

Beautiful, quaint, tourist and beach town

By Iris K |

Really beautiful, quaint, friendly beach town. Family friendly but also great for couples. Tons of things to do while visiting: Amelia Island tour boats, mixology tour, great restaurants, historical district, shops, fishing - all great! Plan on returning soon.

Great place for a conference!

By BeachLover2001 |

The Ritz Carlton is a great location for a conference on beautiful Amelia Island. The island is full of happy people who just want to say hi and wish you well. It was wonderful! The Amelia Island Wellness Festival was nice but they have a few kinks to work out. This was the first one but they may need to hire an event coordinator. A session was reschedule without notification to attendees and no room numbers were noted on any of the event documents or website. They could develop a Facebook page for those attending so they could post changes to schedules.

Greatest Beach in Florida.

By RemusOK |

We have traveled the Florida beaches for years. When we found this place we began coming here. It's always clean, great people and a lot to do. Can stay busy for weeks. This is our week vacation every year.

We really enjoyed our time on the beach.

By Don B |

We were right across the street from our hotel. Easy access to the beach., This is a fantastic beach to enjoy. We hope to return to this location again next year.

Family with teens over the 4th!

By Diana R |

Cute town, history & architecture. We enjoyed the ice cream parlor, & taking a sunset ride with Amelia cruises. Lit up at night.

Lovely

By Alisa D |

Such a great beach to visit. The crowds weren't bad and we were lucky to get beautiful weather. A nice place for a beach day.

AWESOME

By Raymond P |

Amelia Island is a beautiful place to spend a vacation. Lots of uncrowded beach, plenty of recreation, good restaurants, and friendly people. I see negative reviews by people who obviously like a more commercialized, crowded, and Disney World atmosphere. This island is laid back, relaxing, and family friendly. Be ready to be off the clock and on island time.

Wide beach

By SeniorRW |

Wide clean beach that you can drive your vehicle on park and enjoy the ocean view. There is a small boardwalk with seating and ample off beach parking.

The beaches of fernandina

By chris v |

Since we rented a house on the beach we were out walking on them every day. This year we were at the north end, but wherever we've stayed they were allways wide and clean. Our favorite time is low tide. Lots of shells and neat tidal pools and run offs. Plenty of leashed dogs around and many people sitting in groups and solo watching the surf. Don't forget the surfers on the changing tides. Very nice!

LOVE Fernandina Beach!

By erinmaryjoy |

Fernandina Beach is gorgeous! We stayed at Beachside Motel which is beachfront to Fernandina Beach. It was quiet and serene. The beach was safe and clean.

Cars on the beach?

By awaywego117 |

Interesting, allowing cars on the beach... not a fan of that. Somehow people on blankets and cars don't mix. Consequently, not a beach I would recommend.

A charming town with many interesting and historical diversions, and great restaurants with all styles of good food'

By Sukicat2 |

Wander the streets in many directions and you will find interesting shops, and places to eat fine food. The trolley ride is novel, and fun. Large and small restaurants abound, and are found on all streets on and off the main drag. It is safe at all times of day and night.

Beautiful beaches

By Christin F |

This was our first trip to Amelia Island. We loved the beaches. They were clean, well kept, and quiet.

Great Customer Service

By FF Traveler |

The hotel staff was on top of their game! I thoroughly enjoyed the visit and the food. I can't express just how over the top the service was throughout the hotel.

Pretty Beach

By Anne O |

We found the beach to be clean and uncrowded. The surf was refreshing with medium sized waves. Dogs with responsible owners are allowed on the beach.

Lovely Beach

By AdorableK |

My family thought this was a lovely beach. We didn't go swimming, we just stopped to take some pictures. Wasn't too packed when we went.

Charming!

By Bill M |

Charming! Lots of interesting shops and restaurants. Spent a lovely afternoon strolling the entire boulevard with friends. Lots and lots of ways to spend money!

So serene!

By Karen S |

This beach is amazing! We have visited a few times, but this is our first fall visit. The beach is beautiful, clean and not as crowded this time of year. We have never been disappointed with a visit to Amelia Island or Fernadina Beach, but I HIGHLY recommend a fall visit!

Dinner Thursday

By Harry C |

Stopped in to have some fried shrimp for dinner Thursday night. Hmmmm good....
Great sweet potato fries as well as hush puppies. Ordered the she crab soup, tasted good, had the crab meat, a little heat, but was a little watery. Prefer it creamer, but that is just me.

I will be back.

Great Town for Shops and Restaurants

By PATRICIA M |

I loved this old Florida town. Great shops and restaurants on the water. Normal tourist shops but also unique clothing and jewelry not chain stores. Enjoyed the Amelia Tavern food was great. It is also a microbrewery. Would go again.

Town beach

By vzescape |

It's nice to have a little beach in your own town. There were not many visitors around when we went so we had the place to ourselves but I found it to have a lot of litter. I won't go back because I'm afraid of stepping on something sharp.

Nice November day at the beach

By hannahmomofmany |

We enjoyed a nice November day at Fernandina Beach. It's a cute town the weather is lovely. They've done a great job or restoring and cleaning after the latest hurricane. Not a bad drive from the interstate.
And hey...A1A beachfront avenue!

Stormy weather.... But beautiful beach

By cornelll538 |

There was a storm hitting the coast. It had been extremely hot for the past few days. The change of pace in the weather was refreshing. The beauty of the beach still shone through. Lovely beach.

Average East Coast beach

By Cflights |

I like this beach better than Myrtle Beach. But it's about the same as Myrtle and Savannah. Beach wasn't dirty or full of seaweed. The sand isn't soft. The water isn't that blue or clear. Definitely not as nice as the gulf side of Florida but depends on what you like. It was cool to see at least for one trip but I wouldn't visit again.

Best of Fernandina

By Luann A |

The Hoyt House is a great place! David and Lindy are incredible hosts who are extremely knowledgeable and really take wonderful car of their guests. It is a beautiful old historic building. If you are planning a visit to Fernandina, this is the place to stay!

Lame

By Amelia G |

This place was lame. A couple blocks of shopping. I got bored in one day. And I had a bad experience with pushy rude local trash.

Lots of things to see and do!!

By anniekins911 |

We visited twice in one week in June, 2016. The town is very busy with tourists, but it has a lot of cute shops and plenty of places to eat and drink.

Beautiful

By John M |

Beautiful beach. Clean well-kept with nature in mind. Only saw the beach around Turtle Dunes , loved it

This is a fun spot!

By PatioPlease |

We love it there when we are in the area. The beach is nice and solid for walking, there are benches to sit on, free parking, foot washers, and rest rooms! It has several restaurants to choose from and a sidewalk if you're not a beach walker.

Plenty of Space to Spread Out

By T-Grip |

Amelia Island has great, uncrowded beaches with many access points and ample parking. The beaches are sandy.. The water is clean. We did not experience any seaweed or stinging jellyfish, though that might not always be true, depending on the season. Signs warn about the possibility of strong rip tides, but flags are displayed when the risk is great. We did not see any lifeguards, but April is not quite swimming weather except for us brave New Englanders. Some teens were having a great time with skim boards and boogie boards.

Love Each Visit

By John S |

Nice town; pedestrian friendly; an easy walk from the top of the town down to the port and back. PLENTY of dining and socializing establishments and the “Boss” loves the various shops while I people watch and say “Hey.”

Joyce and larry

By lelgin69 |

Great vacation destination. We enjoyed the town and shopping. Some of the best seafood I have ever eaten.

Relaxing place

By seva392015 |

We rented a condo on the beach where we could see the sunrise every day. We stay on the south end where it is quite. It is only a few minutes to the port and lighthouse and historic district.

Home

By Sharon L |

The first island in Florida coming South on I-95. This is the birthplace of the shrimping industry and still a fleet of shrimp boats. A place of history and beauty, from civil war Fort Clinch State Park to the beach along the Atlantic, something for everyone. Our home for the last 30 years.

Fantastic

By Familia Salazar |

We're travel to Amelia Island for first time with our grandson, 7 years old and we have a fantastic time. We're taken a Cumberland Island trip on boat and our grandson was so happy. After we're walking to the town, ate ice cream and finished in the beach. Later on we're spend 2 nights in Amelia Island Inn front the beach and 1 night in Omni Resort, beautiful, beautiful resort, many amenities for kids. Overall, we have a fantastic days. Definetly we're going back again.

Quiet and beautiful

By NGSGJB |

I love this beach. It's not crowded and it's beautiful. There are allot of shells in the sand. Great for families when you don't like the Daytona beach scene.

Beach

Clean beach and not too crowded but had lots of shells. Public parking could take a minute to find..

Perfect, quiet. Residential properties, condos along beach. Sleepy and charming as a result of the tranquility.

Beach & small town

By Miguel Maria M |

Had a wonderful time at Fernandina Beach. Stayed in town near all the quaint shops and awesome places to eat! Loved the Farmer's market on Saturday!

Beautiful Beach

By Elaine H |

We took our granddaughters to go to the beach. Even though the weather was cool they enjoyed walking down the beautiful sandy pristine beach. The beach was not crowded and was super clean. The girls enjoyed finding lots of shells and just sitting and watching the birds and dolphins offshore.

Nice beach

By Teresa S |

Love this beach. Not to busy and lots of space and not crowded like the bigger tourist towns. Lifeguards are very visual and is a must go beach. Love it here ❤️❤️

A history buff's paradise

By Bonbear |

The people of this quaint historic village have done (and continue to do) a great job in restoration and preservation. Like other farsighted costal towns, you will not notice utility poles and lines criss-crossing the scenic village. The merchants and residents we met were very friendly and helpful, and even though we live in Florida we thought we were elsewhere.

Quaint historic district

By Sally P |

This was a quaint area to visit. I visited with my adult daughter, and we enjoyed walking through the shops and having breakfast and lunch in some of the restaurants on the side streets. A relaxing place to wander around.

By 108Denise |

Beach was beautiful. It was a very wide beach. Not crowded. Lots of shells. It was also quiet. Families and retirees.

Hidden Gem!

By KimsHusband |

We stayed in one of the historic houses that now is an Airbnb beside. We loved the area. We walked through town several times. Saturday morning they had a market with lots of food and crafts. Many good restaurants to choose from. Looks like we missed the 'Shrimp Fest' by one week - which is probably a good thing due to crowds.

Laid back place to relax and take a breath and let go of rush of everyday life

By Just_Jimbo123456 |

I used to vacation at the Plantation on the southern part of Amelia Island and enjoyed it very much, but I only visited Fernandina once and found it not very interesting. I wound up traveling to Fernandina twice last year on business and found that the little town has changed, for the good, The old shops and buildings have been rehabilitated and it has become a real old florida jewel. While the Southern part of Amelia Island is Uber expensive and luxurious, Fernandina has much less expensive Inns and a large variety of not expensive but quality restaurants.

Paradise

By BeachLover2001 |

This is a wonderful island reminiscent of old Florida. It has tree lined roads, a quaint and historic downtown, wonderful boat rides to Cumberland Island, happy and friendly people, and beautiful beaches! Your dog is welcome at many places. Be sure to keep them on leash on the beach and please leave the beach area as clean and natural as you found it.

We love going here. We try and make it here at least 4 times per year. We also live Fort Clinch.
Definitely a must DO.

Unique

By Grammie321 |

Love the downtown area. Centre St. is lined with interesting shops and restaurants. Unfortunately, the coronavius has caused us to cancel many of the things we wanted to do here. So instead we will do an auto your from our own car.

Lovely Island

By loves2travelandmore |

The town is charming with assorted shops and great restaurants. The beaches are very good and parking and facilities are better than most. It is easy to get around, parking was easily found, and the people are friendly and helpful. Locals are very willing to offer suggestions or name their favorites. We had wonderful dining. The island seems very safe and trouble-free. We are looking forward to a return visit.

Fernandina Beach seems to be comfortable and welcoming.

Hidden Gem

By Ifeoma A |

Came here on vacation. It was really nice because there were not a lot of people there. It is not very touristy which made it nice because you were not on top of anyone. The area was quaint with amazing beaches. Defiantly will come back again and go to the restaurants they have around here.
