We enjoyed our 3-hour walk around the historic district. The farmer’s market was a fun treat and good place to pick up small gifts after a stop at Amelia Island Coffee. We also spotted a celebrity at the visitor center (and didn’t bother him). There are some nice lunch spots in the district.

You come into town and are mesmerized but the dichotomy between highway and town. Lots of mom and pop shops. Great old book stores. Great restaurants for all budgets. Recommend Timoti’s Seafood Shak on North 3rd street. Fun trolley and horse drawn carriages for tours.

By Dick M |

The buildings on the street are old and historic. Your walk will be more interesting if you stop at the visitor center
at the end of main street near the water and pick up a free walking tour guide. It will give you historic information about many of the buildings on the main street and also many of the old homes nearby. We had a nice 1 hour self guided walking tour.

Stayed over night on our first night of a 3 weeks road trip to No Minnesota, had lots of fun and will definitely go back!

By Sherri M |

Take a stroll, get lost even....this little town is just beautiful. There are lovely shops, places to eat, and historic homes to see. The old Florida railroad is there, as well. Just so charming!

By W. Brian B |

Awesome town to walk around and sight see with a great variety of restaurants and shops. Town is beautiful and would highly recommend

By lauralovesgrands |

We enjoyed the restaurants, specialty shops and art galleries. Great place to walk around and connect with people!

By drivitlkustoleit |

The people in the shops are the nicest people! The variety of goods and services in the shops are wonderful! If you love old style with nice people, this is the place! Also very dog friendly!

By Diane |

Go to the Welcome center and pick up the booklet for the self guided walking tour through the historic district. Very well done, map was accurate and easy to read and the descriptions of each building were very informative. Beautiful day for a walk and it was so much more meaningful having the guide to provide lots of interesting information.

By ridge06 |

Beautiful safe area to wander around and relax. Many unique shops, restaurants, and a great place to people watch. Many establishments offer live music daily.

By FGB Florida |

We loved this sweet, salty town. Great shops and restaurants. Perfect for walking and browsing, and the sunsets are wonderful.

By Adelaide |

There were some gruffy looking people in here. The shops are a milking place for tourists. The eateries and stalls charge exorbitant amount for everything.

By Teresa S |

We came here for a family trip for the Fourth of July it was busier than we’ve seen it before but plenty of parking and all the shops are great. It’s very lovely here would recommend to anyone.. a must see vacation spot.

By Sewinggrandma |

Never have visited this area. Had nice little shops. Reminded me of Melbourne, Fl historic district. Ate at Brett's Cafe in the river and we all had shrimp salad on croissants. Very tasty. Also the shrimp bisque was very good.

By GoBuckeyes123 |

Amazing assortment of sights to admire and indulge. Beautiful gardening displays, very unique and artful. Shops for every price point, style and age. Beautiful churches and homes. Clean and easy to manuver. We were fortunte to catch the farmers market Saturday morning.

Beautiful location, fun historical looks. Great colors. Love that they offer free parking, and lots of food, snack and visit options. The marina is a great stop. Always interesting boats parked there. Visit the fudge shop, visitor center, Christmas store and see historical Victorian style houses and beautiful churches. (And pirates of course.)

By dtiura |

By stopping at the local museum, you can pick up booklets about the downtown area. You can also take a horse drawn carriage ride, a trolley bus tour, or a walking ghost/story tour. I live in the district and it is quite charming

By Jeff A |

Lovely area with historic buildings, eclectic shopping and lots of good restaurants. Definitely worth your time to visit. Pick a cooler part of the day for maximun enjoyment.

By kythoro |

Our bus tour group had a guided tour through Old town. Loved the history narrative of the old homes and their owners. We saw the beautiful home where Pippy Longstreet was filmed. Very clean and well maintained area. We also walked the area and everything is easily accessible in Old Town.

This quant, family-friendly village at the northern point of Amelia island is both welcoming as well as relaxing for locals and visitors alike. Comprised of what appears to be family run shops and restaurants it has a home like charm, best walking around which will take << 1 hour.

By A C R |

The historic district of Fernandina Beach sets Amelia Island apart from other beach resorts. A quick trip in the car takes you from beach paradise to a bustling historic coastal town with a thriving restaurant population.

By Dory310 |

We have one of the loveliest Historic Districts of all small towns in the U.S. . It is easily walkable , with beautiful architecture, fine and casual dining , and a nice variety of shops . Stop in the Methodist church to see the stained glass windows, and go across the street to the antique malls , to see the great selections of island memorabilia.

By heidisc |

Hot and not very vegan friendly. Fun to walk around. If I go back it must be in the winter or fall. Way too hot. Will also be sure to bring my own food.

By Kathy M |

Beautiful downtown with a big variety of shops and restaurants-ice cream to deli to Mexican to Pizza. They have it all! Be Aware that many restaurants are closed on Monday and reservations are recommended at many of the the other dining dining spots. NOTE: They have a “Comfort Station” with wonderful restrooms behind the depot near the railroad tracks. All the shops are very welcoming. Stop at the harbor to watch the sunset.

By crocuslover |

We were there enjoying dinner at a restaurant on New Year's Eve and decided to walk around the historic district. It was decorated so beautifully with the trees all done in white lights. Everyone was heading down to the water so we followed and enjoyed the New Year countdown to the "shrimp drop" (this was done at 7:00 so that children can enjoy it) where a crane lowers a lit up shrimp and then there is a fireworks show. All super fun! We then walked around the town and enjoyed the few stores that were open. We had a great evening and can't wait to go back and try out some more restaurants and do some shopping!

By pdv524 |

Cute shops, delicious fudge and ice cream shop, great restaurants! I love walking around and going in all the stores!

By Erin M |

Definitely glad we stopped after our eco tour boat ride. Was so cute we were drawn to it, we hadn't planned a stop there. Some nice restaurants, ice cream shops, unique stores, etc. Pretty streets.

By TonyJT40 |

Being off-season we had an easy stroll in the historic district. We visited a number of shops and were greeted very warmly. We had lunch in the Amelia Tavern (recommend) and just enjoyed the sites and talking with other visitors. The only disappointment was that we were unable to take the Trolly Tour. A special event had booked it for the day.

By Cathy S |

Enjoyed several walks through the town this past week. The Welcome Center has excellent information about the history of the town as well as a walking tour to look at the historic homes. Plenty of restaurants to stop for lunch, dinner or ice cream as well as lots of cute shops.

By tanyaree07 |

Had a beautiful afternoon strolling through stores filled with unique souvenirs and antiques . The antiques stores are the old fashioned type you can dig through, with lots of cool nautical stuff.
The storefronts are old classic houses restored to some of their former glory....
Had a drink in one of the states oldest saloons and soaked in the beautiful waterfront view .
Would have taken a river cruise, but they were sold out, so book early..

By Susan Z |

Our stay at the Ritz Carlton on Amelia Island mixed business and pleasure. The view from our suite's windows is unforgettable, walking on the beach between meetings was a delight. Enjoyed the artists coops in nearby Fernandina as well as the chance to interact with artists at a weekend farmers market and a church craft fair.

By signinsareapain |

Cute town. It has a lot of restaurants and shops. We enjoyed walking around for a couple hours. It is dog friendly. Look forward to returning.

By Douglas M |

This beautiful downtown Fernandina Beach is a must to see. With so many shops, restaurants, B&B’s make this historic district truly remarkable.

By tobytovar |

We actually live just off the Island but it seems every time we leave our neighborhood it is to the Island. Wonderful shops, restaurants, and benches to just sit and watch the world go by. Every type of restaurant from Seafood ( my favorite) to Italian, Mexican, Bistros, and another favorite Hola Cuban Cafe. A lot of celebrations including the Saturday Market on 7th street and The Annual Shrimp Festival in July.

By Melinda Sorrell Durand |

Nice, clean downtown area with lots of shops & restaurants. Love to visit here during the shrimp festival!

By Napunani |

Beautifully laid out streets in this historical district with good traffic control along with free parking.
A lot of hype with minimal substance.
Most of the shops we went into on a Sunday afternoon were JUNK! Souvenir type shops with tee shirts and key chains.

By mfos16 |

Live music, quaint shops and delicious seafood. The atmosphere was fun and lively. Crowd was tame and all the shops and restaurants were inviting.

By Mike L |

Very well kept little "Gem" of a shopping area. Enjoyed the walk up and down the streets. Very well taken care of and friendly people.

By gabriellenicole123 |

This is an adorable little historic town by the bay. It has the cutest historic buildings with local shops and eateries. If you're in the area definitely take a stroll around town.

By Alasster |

The locally owned shops, restaurants and boutiques were charming and so much fun. I so appreciate that the historic aspect of the town has been celebrated. Absolutely loved!

By Carrie S |

We stayed on Amelia Island and enjoyed our trips to the Fernandina historic area. It was a cute area full of restaurants, shopping and ice cream. It was a nice break from the beach and we had a nice time strolling down the streets, shopping and enjoying all that the area had to offer.

By Kshydog |

Very interesting stories were told by the driver about the history and its residents. He added some humor to them. There was a lot to see, more than we anticipated.

By Excursion825210 |

Italians, Greeks, Germans, and other European settlers inhabited the northern end of the island. They brought with them their skills as shipbuilders, fishermen, craftsmen, sawmill builders, householders, architects, and merchants. The houses in the area reflect their personal taste as much as statement of the use of indigenous materials. There is no more charming architecture that best represents the age and passion than this sliver of the island. I should like to recommend to see this beauty perambulate by foot not car, to really take it all in slowly.

By THEJEWELLS305 |

Amazing Amazing Amazing. Great restaurants great people great place to wind down. The sunset at Salty Pelican was perfect as well as the loaded nachos. Ask for Summer, you can thank me later.

By XploratorY |

Our favorite thing to do is shop small-town Main Street privately-owned shops, and this one is the BEST we have ever experienced! Very large, not just a block or two on one street but a whole downtown area! Most prices, especially for cute clothes, are on the high side, but there are also a few stores sprinkled in that my parents would have appreciated when we were all little: kitschy, cheap, touristy items. Add in a few ice cream shops (Fantastic Fudge is the best one!), art galleries, a local coffee shop, multiple restaurants, and we could easily spend at least 2 days here! Shoulder season, and avoiding Shrimp Fest, so it was not very crowded either, which we appreciate.

By mysticalfoodie |

Very cute downtown area typical of Old Florida. Pleasantly devoid of touristy type places. Nice for pedestrians.

By TrayBN |

A compact area that is loaded with bars, restaurants and shops. Very walkable. Quaint and very clean. Free parking areas scattered around the area.

By Amanda G |

This is one of the best "old" downtown areas I have been to. There are lots of little shops and restaurants and everyone is so friendly. You can also pick up a book of the historic buildings and read about them as you walk around.

By Connie M |

This was our first time to Amelia Island and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. We stayed right in the historic district which is in walking distance to many things. Loved taking the carriage ride and learning about the historic homes and history of the town. We will definitely be going back!

By HistoricTraveler |

We recently moved to Fernandina Beach from CT. Having chaired the CT Trust for Historic Preservation and the CT Central Regional Tourism District, I would have had trouble moving to somewhere that wasn't historic. Fernandina Beach has not disappointed! Keep in mind that the Spanish had settled this area in the 1500's and could have sent a note of welcome to the Pilgrims when they landed at Plymouth Rock!

The Island is beautiful and the historic district is fabulous. The center of town is vibrant with shops, restaurants and beautiful historic buildings. The surrounding residential part of the district has an interesting mix of architecture. What's also very impressive is how well kept everything is. This is a great walking and biking district. A real gem.

By tlb60 |

Nice ambiance. Lots of unique shops and great restaurants. Pet friendly...most shop owners have a water dish at their front door for your furry family.

By RCtootles |

We had a great time exploring shops, Art Studios, Restaurants and sites. Everyone of our multi-generational group found things to love.

By CTMans |

Small town charm galore. The nicest area is only a handful of blocks and a few blocks wide so you can browse around in an hour or so. But you get views of the river, plenty of good restaurants, nightly music, and gift shops. Not big, but something for everyone. Certainly worthy of lunch and a stroll after taking a sightseeing cruise on the river - makes for a nice day.

By NorthernCanadian1 |

Lots of good food, great photography opportunities and a relaxed feeling. The area is clean, and you never feel unsafe. I like this area a lot.

By William E |

There are a bunch of quaint shops with a bunch of stuff that women like to look at. a great place to drop your wife off and daughters too and go have a cigar and a beer with your son!

By TOMOLYN |

HISTORIC DISTRICT AMELIA ISLAND = Lots To See And Do As You Stroll The Streets And See Shops And Interesting Historical Sites!

By Jane S |

We have been all over Florida and this was our first trip to this area. We found the beach desirable and the people very friendly. The Historic district was a true southern town feel with a lot of charm! Can't wait to visit this area again!!!!

By Katherine |

We were only there 2 nites, a Monday and Tuesday and a large majority of restaurants and shops were closed until Wednesday. Could have been off season, staffing or Covid.

By Jane Marie Malcolm |

Nearly once a week, I visit Sea Jade's, an old Florida souvenir shop on Centre Street, the main road through the middle of Amelia Island's 50 block historic district. I sit out front, signing the novels in my Victorian series, The Goodbye Lie. And what a perfect place to do that, since the persent day buildings, the railroad, the river, the Florida House, which is the oldest tourist hotel in the state, are only part of the history surrounding me and a fictionalized part of that history is in my books. Just about any time of the year is a good time to stroll and reflect upon the jewel that is Amelia Island, Florida.

By SeanRafter |

Just walking arount these several blocks of the old historic district is a treat you should enjoy. So many extraordinary buildings, infomative sighnage, and delights around every corner.

By HapyGuy7 |

One our favorite Beach Towns in FL. Lots to see. Good stores and restaurants. A pretty good bar screen. Lots of choices some with music

By Samantha b |

So sweet! A small Charleston or savannah feel. Really shady so it’s a beautiful walk . I will definitely return for a girls trip! Be a great bachelorette weekend southern style!

By Qgriffin |

This is a great historic district. Most everything is walking distance. Nice night life with live music at many of the restaurants in the area.

By Deanne H |

My friends and I went to Amelia island for a 4 day getaway. So much to see and do. The weather was great and we made it over to Fernandina Beach for the perfect beach day.
Lots of places to eat, drink and shop in the Historic District. Always enjoyable walking the streets and seeing the train pass by while overlooking the waterfront.

By bbbob84 |

A beautiful district with shops, dining options and drinking establishments. From trinket shops to boutiques and local dive bars to fine dining. You can find it all in the historic district. Walk to the waters end and enjoy the marina with it’s picturesque sunsets. Parking can be challenging, but there are public lots off of Centre Street. An enjoyable stroll day or night.

By boxshop |

We absolutely enjoy visiting Fernandina Beach and Amelia Island. It is a usual layover when we visit Florida.

By B3777GZlindah |

I finally got to visit the Amelia Island after being evacuated due to Hurricane Irma. You could see some of the damage that the Hurricane caused, but the homes and shops were still standing. I loved the historic homes. Just beautiful is all I can say. People were walking around and enjoying the area. It has an intimate and small town feel which I love. I went down to the beach close by and there were sea shells every where. Took a nice relaxing walk along the beach and enjoyed the sunset. I will get back.

By Easy traveler |

Picture perfect community...great historic area....really nice area to visit and spend some time..a Florida gem..the entire family will love this place as we do..

By Heather R |

We visited Amelia Island for the first time. We did not stay near the downtown area but took a day to enjoy the town. There are many nice shops and restaurants. There is a bar that is the oldest bar - The Palace. We enjoyed a beer there. Some historic items in the bar were really neat. This is just a bar - no food served. The homes and buildings are all well kept and are classic beauty. There is a really nice waterfront area at one end of the historic district with a nice restaurant overlooking the harbor and ocean. I would love to see this town when the flowers are in bloom. It must be stunning. There was even 2 men playing music and singing for all to sit or stroll by and enjoy. We had not problems find parking (free).

By Harriet H |

lovely island especially dowtown and surrounding historic homes
be sure to take the tour but check times before you go We missed the tour but ate in one of many restaurants there
Water view spectacular People are very friendly We also drove around to see the historic homes Be sure to go to the visitor center which is close to the water downtown
Would have liked to have stayed overnight but didn't have the time

By mtache |

Centre Street in the heart of the Historic district is something that you can't miss when visiting Amelia Island! So much history in the buildings. Great little shops and dining options!

By Mickey C |

Nice walk-able town.Clean and well kept. Many benches to get a drink and a big piece of fudge.Friendly shop owners and locals.Varieties of shops from eateries, jewelry ladies clothing, art, gift shops and wonderful antique shops to explore.Saturday a great time to explore the weekly farmer/food/craft market.Highly recommend.

By Brittany W |

The staff of the visitors center was very helpful, giving us an overview of the island. We also grabbed a book for a self guided walking tour of the historic district (which would take an hour or so if you didn’t stop to check out all the shops along the way). I recommend stopping here first when you arrive.

By GS Leader 31002 |

This is a place that has it all to spend a nice weekend day. From quaint antique shops to wonderful restaurants serving both locally inspired dishes and more unique fair, to historic buildings and sites, you can easily spend hours exploring everything in the area and leave plenty for your next visit. It is especially nice around Christmas.

By Kim E |

A little gem of an area that is easily walkable. The building and staff of the welcome center are worth a stop. We found easy parking on the day we visited and enjoyed a nice lunch at Brett's Waterside Cafe. A special treat was a drink at the Palace Saloon, the oldest bar in Florida. My Bloody Mary came with a mini french onion burger slider as a garnish and my husband loved his rum punch.

By BTBA4 |

Went to farmer's market on Saturday. Very interesting and diverse. Stores for shopping varied and fun. Restaurants and ice cream also readily available.

By TiftonTravelers |

Love walking downtown Fernandina Beach! It's so exciting and people friendly especially during Christmas, New Years Eve holidays and Gator Bowl football weekends ! So much fun and some of the best restaurants anywhere. Ghost tours ,island cruises, fishing charters, Cumberland island trip,Fort Clinch, and the Ritz Carlton!

By KatieV68 |

My family made a day trip to the Historic District of Amelia Island. We will definitely be back for a longer stay in the future. Just a charming place.
The shopping and restaurants are in abundance. Boutiques, art galleries, antiques... it’s all there in about 8 blocks. Don’t forget the side streets too.
We ate at the Salty Pelican and were very pleased with our meal. We need to go back and sample other restaurants the locals recommend.
The locals are lovely people. Very friendly!
Wear comfortable shoes. You will definitely do some walking.
Plenty of free parking.

By Douglas M |

We enjoy visiting every year, walking the downtown blocks, nice streets with trees, nice shops and restaurants, location is perfect with Center Street, among others, leading out to the water.

By Jon F |

Fernandina beach is a nice slice of old Florida. The historic district has been well maintained. It is full of unique shops and dining for every taste. Parking is plentiful.

By Tai Carepa |

Very cute small town. Nice to walk around, visit the local stores and restaurants. I definitely recommend it.

By Pollyanna26 |

A charming, historic area filled with small shops and restaurants of every flavor. Check out the historical churches and post office. I find this a wonderful way to spend an afternoon or evening, strolling and people watching and stopping for a drink or ice cream or lunch. It's Florida, so there are tourists, but the narrow streets are never overcrowded. You can find on the street parking lots of the time and there are also public parking areas. On on end of the street is the harbor and the other is the beach. What's not to love?

By corollaclub98 |

This place is amazing and so much to do , A weekend get away plenty of things and places to eat and prices are not bad at all , This place holds a lot of history .

By adalynnjanerose |

We visited Amelia island around September of last year and was not very impressed. Everything was crowded and our condo was shabby. We paid good money to stay and enjoy our trip and everything was mediocre. Could have been a lot better. Might try again sometime soon to see if we just went around a bad time. 6/10

By Melissa P |

Amelia Island historic district has tons of personality. Brightly colored houses, historical buildings and interesting architecture. Cute shops and antique stores. Tons of restaurants and a great fudge shop. I recommend Timoti's Seafood Shak, Fantastic Fudge and the Book Loft.

By JzTz2013 |

Start at the Visitor Center to learn how you can tour the town and log onto your phone for an educational video on what you are near and the historical significance it had. This town is fast becoming our favorite place to visit.

By Marilyn |

We had a lovely afternoon shopping and walking the historic streets. Lots of cute little shops catering to tourist. Not my first time here but whenever I’m on the island I like to visit the historic district.

By Kelly |

Nice area. A variety of restaurants and shopping. We went to Amelia Island for a weekend trip and enjoyed visiting the historic district.

By vanos954 |

The historic district has a wide variety of shops and restaurants and is a great place to spend a day or two. We stayed at a B&B near the historic district and spent about 10 hours total walking around, eating, and shopping. It's only about 7-8 blocks long with a variety of antique stores, specialty shops, boutiques, etc. and no chains really which is nice that everything is local(ish). Same with restaurants, you won't find a Subway or Chilis here, just a lot of good local places, all of which were great in our opinion. The area is dog friendly although I'll warn a lot of the dogs were not well behaved, although not dangerous by any means.

By CyndyandByron |

This small town has a huge 50 block historic district. It is located on the northern end of the southern most of the Sea Island chain, Amelia Island. It is also the most northern of the East Coast settlements established by the Spaniards. The town, was celebrating its Annual Shrimp Festival and judging by the crowds it was hugely successful. The US shrimping industry was founded in this beach town. The historic district is primarily family owned shops selling single focus items such as books, jewelry, vintage clothing, and many other items. This location is a great day out!

By adventix |

Most things are concentrated around center street and on the intersecting roads (up to 6th street). A beautiful 1-2 hours walk with plenty of places to stop for a coffee, ice-cream or a full dinner.

By JOE T |

Many interesting Shops and Restaurant, Antique shops, Trolley tours and Amazing beach
A must see is a little Burger and Hot dog place called "Tasty's" Awesome Burgers and fries
Amazing Shakes and Malts

By travchef |

It's a narrow little street so watch out for pedestrians ambling along. Parking can be difficult but keep circling and you may find something.
There are a lot of shops, decent restaurants and the old buildings are quite stunning.

By bigkal |

if you are at amelia island, this is a very beautiful spot, which is right buy the boats. we went on a sunset cruise which was magic, then we went through the town, we had a great relaxing time, go and enjoy

By GoVols79 |

Our first full day on Amelia Island was rainy and cooler than normal so we skipped the beach and went to explore the historic district. There is a lot of free on street parking so we found a spot and started exploring. This area is very pedestrian friendly and full of shops, restaurants and historic homes and buildings. Amelia Island Coffee, Fantastic Fudge and the Book Loft were a few favorites. It was a great way to spend a few hours on the island.

By Gretchen M |

Go for a stroll down Main Street and stop for lunch and then ice cream. Just hold your ears when the train goes by!!

By Annette H |

Wonderful shops and restaurants. Stopped for seafood at Timatios, which was excellent. The fudge shop has candies and ice cream which were equally satisfying.

By Carlos R |

Amelia Island's historic district is an amazing place. It is quaint with a feel of times gone by. There is so much to see and do. From pub crawl to shopping, to music scene, to art gallery. What a wonderful place. I highly recommend putting it on the bucket list.

By pskzford |

Such a beautiful, quaint historic downtown with shops and amazing restaurants. Felt safe and welcoming. Parking wasn’t even that bad and a big plus was all parking was free!

By Monabhi29 |

Its nice to walk around . There so many historic buildings to see . So many restaurants. Some street concert going on there when we were on our way to sunset cruise. And the train tracks are for real though kids enjoy watching train .

By Fran C |

This is a great place to stay or visit for the day. So much to do and check out. Soo much history to check out. Plenty of shops and walking to do. Also the beaches are fantastic and the water activities. Great for families and couples. We love the area and visit a couple time a year and hit our favorites and check out some new ones.

By Marci A |

Enjoyed walking the area, lots of lil shops to browse. Restaurants and coffee shops to sit and relax in. Plenty of free public parking. If your going to dine on a weekend I suggest allowing time for a wait in the restaurants as the places get pretty busy. Nice for people of all ages to go to and just window shop and relax

By LindsayNjoe429 |

Such a great small town to visit. Shops, drinks, great food, and great hospitality! We came for the weekend and just happened to be here during the shrimp festival and it is quite the event!!

By BarbaraMD59 |

Fernandina Beach is a very unusual beach town. It is quaint and very picturesque. It looks like a town from about 1900 and the business area is tree lined with many areas to sit for awhile. We took an electric carriage ride (don't know the company name, but you can find the carriages parked on Front Street. The driver was very knowledgeable about all the interesting homes in the town. The tour lasted about 90 minutes and we very much enjoyed it and the town itself.

By Tiffanydawnw |

So many cute shops to explore. The downtown area has brick paved sidewalks which adds to the atmosphere. Lots of restaurants and places to grab a drink or snack while shopping.

By JWF |

Wonderful quaint old Florida small Florida historical fishing village now weekend destination. Pirate shop and ice cream stores on Main Street, weekend farmer’s market, water-side dining and plenty of very good restaurants, niche shopping, and laid back places to visit at night some with music. Enjoyable day family or couples excursion and adult weekend getaway.

By Judith G |

This is a really great town. I had so much fun shopping in all of the stores. There is something for everyone. Great restaurants too. I would highly recommend it..

By Lolly’s Look |

The Amelia Island Historic District is a cute little old fashioned area with nautical themed shopping, restaurants, bars and ice cream shops.

By Cheryl E |

Lots of unique shops, restaurants and bars to try. Great place to just stroll down the streets to take it all in and appreciate the architecture. Very clean and if you are lucky, you may get to see locals signing, playing acoustic guitar to listen to. Lived it!!

By Christina M |

It was hot, it was beautiful and of course I had the most beautiful company - my daughter. I particularly enjoyed the art center where all sorts of local artists displayed their work. I bought a unique pair of ear rings, had lunch with my daughter and enjoyed a nice visit to a local bank with very pleasant staff.

By Kristin Toney |

Loved the cute shops and had a wonderful lunch on 3rd street - did the historic walking tour- beautiful Victorian homes

By JohnT01Traveler |

A bunch of historic shops and buildings. A few decent restaurants. It was ok to see, expected more. Every city has a historical town some better than others. This seemed on the smaller size and shops were limited. Average is stretching it for my review

By Ned and Laura G |

Not at all like Florida Like! Loved it! Great restaurants and unique shops! Definitely worth seeing the sunset!

By Laura B |

The second oldest city in America, Fernandina Beach, FL, offers a compact historic district that is made for strolling. Feast your eyes on stellar examples of Victorian and Queen Anne architecture in the form of well-preserved homes and B&Bs. Enjoy the unique shops like Twisted Sisters, restaurants, Nana Theresa's Bakery (not to be missed) and antique buildings of this safe, friendly and clean seaside town with centuries of history to uncover. Stop at the Palace Saloon, the oldest bar in FL, and the Florida House Inn, the oldest hotel. Be sure to see the live oak in the Florida House courtyard!! It's best to experience the area twice: once in the daytime and once at night. You'll get two different takes on one great place.

By Dennis W |

Great area full of shops and restaurants, art galleries and museums. Plenty of history here also. Every building has a story.. from old houses dating from the 1800's to pirates to the municipal buildings of the city. You can take tours of the area... sometimes in a carriage pulled by a horse with a driver telling stories of the area.

By DanMarCo |

Beautiful place to spend the day walking around. Cute shops, all kinds of restaurants, bars, distillery, water front, & nice weather, what more could you want?

By Karen T |

This small town is awesome. The historic district caterers to families as well as to couples and singles. There is a night life, where small bars and restaurants have great bands and singers. The historic district provides great historical value but also a place to get homemade ice cream or fudge. The area has an eclectic mix of genres that will delight your tastebuds, your wallet and your listening flavor. The historical architecture is phenomenal as is the history of how the area survived the different governing rulers. The city of eight flags will delight you.

By Christine H |

I didn't get much time to spend in the Historical district. But what I did see was reminiscent of Key West. Many hidden gems to explore, plus antique stores, boutique shops and great restaurants. This was once a settlement for pirates. Fort Clinch is a must see from the Civil War era with an actual fort and museum to explore plus walking and biking trails and good fishing spots.

By Christin F |

I loved that all of the shops located in this district were locally owned. There is a lot to look at and many restaurants to enjoy.

By mary d |

Love heading to the antique stores, walking through the neighborhoods viewing the grand old homes. Many have plaques with the history of the island dating back to the 1700s. We go 2 times a year for a few days because it is so much fun.

By livelife h |

Nice town with a lot of shops, restaurants and bars. There's a lot of history and placed to see plus it's close to the beach

By Sharlene Martin |

So much fun downtown! Dinner, drinks, shopping and boat trips. Only wish there was more then one option for late night drinks but still had a blast. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Like all of the other reviews say, this place is a must see! Living on the island I always come to this place on every off day from work I have and stop by the local shops to see what they have new. The town has plenty of shops and restaurants that are alm high quality and amazingly built. While your walking around town you can grab a quick bite to eat or a coffee at one of the many lunch/breakfast joints they have scattered throughout the town. If your a night owl then this place might not be the best for you. The bar is open at night but most of the town closes at 5.

Amellia Island's historic district offers a wide variety of restaurants, ice cream parlors, shops, and music. The numerous benches are usually occupied by men. There are clean rest rooms available near the pier.. Amelia River Tours with Pajama Dave is highly recommended for an excellent tour with many laughs.

A thriving little town like Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island, although not quite so little any longer, welcomes visitors from all over the world. With 50 blocks of history to enjoy, you can stroll, shop, eat and take home memories.

By Becky B |

We spent a rainy day wandering the shops downtown. While the shops were not anything super spectacular, the ambiance was still nice.

By Barbara S |

Interesting place to visit. Relaxing, enjoyable, educational. Nice parks. Had a fascinating tour of old homes. Also, enjoyed a guided tour of Amelia Island Lighthouse.

By bestfamilyadventures |

Great old town, perfect to stroll around in and out of shops, restaurants and talk to the locals. Historic District a major part of Amelia Island charm.

By Jimmy S |

Hidden gem : we love this place it was our first visit we just did some walking around the historic district and stumbled across some beautiful houses

By NickyVickyFun |

The entire historic district is electrifying. There is something for everyone, sightseeing, restaurants or just people watching. Somewhat of a Savannah feel but minus the huge crowds.

By Jacquelyn Neal |

We love learning about the history of our favorite island vacation spot. So much to see in historic Fernandina Beach. Lovely tree lined streets with many shops...for young, old, couples and families. The local shopkeepers do a wonderful job of accommodating all of us tourists that flock to their island every summer 😊...very warm and welcoming community. This is where we dream of retiring one day. Counting down the years 🏡.

By Robert K |

We took a tour of the island and the historic district where we stopped to have lunch and shop. Many restaurants
to choose from lots of small shops to check out.

By Christie M |

The Amelia Island Historic District made this beach vacation one of our absolute favorites! Each of my 3 kids had a blast shopping for souvenirs in pirate-themed shops, browsing in the charming Book Loft, and deciding between the variety of restaurants all around us. The cobblestone streets and lovely old buildings made us feel like we had stepped back in time. If you visit Amelia Island, this area is a must-see!

By Patrick D |

Nice little place. It rained while we were there so couldn't see it all. Had lunch in a nice little brew pub and went to the dock area. We'll be going back.

By chele131 |

This is truly a great little town surrounding itself with such an immense amount of history. It is very walkable and I think we walked every inch several times. There are so many little side streets with local restaurants, little boutiques and home with history. We love it and will go back again.

By Christine M |

The historic district is oozing with charm, beautiful, historic buildings, wonderfully unique and quaint shops, restaurants, & pubs, and at the end of it is the harbor where you can experience some of the most amazing sunsets. This is just a spectacular way to spend the day!

Stop in at the Welcome Center before you begin your day to pick up some brochures and friendly guidance on the history and where to go. And if you want to plan ahead, this is a magical place to visit during the holidays with some of the most wonderful events for everyone to enjoy!

By MKTravelingMed |

Enjoyed a great walk around historic district. Shops range from outdoor gear to unique and beach gifts; restaurants, bars with craft beer; treats such as taffy, fudge, and ice cream stores with trendy and luxury clothing, to a pirate store! Restaurants had live music echoing from there doors. You MUST walk it at night time, stop and read the historic signs.such a relaxing walk!

By Egons K |

This is a great town to walk around. The visitors center at the waterfront end of Central street is a good place to start. Pick up the free brochures and talk to the very helpful, informative staff. On your walk get off Central street and meander through the side streets to see some incredible classic homes. Of course there are some fun shops on Central street with something for men, women and kids.

By Susan L |

Fascinating area in top condition. Stayed in Great B nB,, the Anniston. Many beautiful homes in a variety of neighborhoods.

By NCluvtrav |

Park your car and stay awhile. Stroll down Centre St. was so relaxing with its variety of shops ex. souvenir, men/women/children clothing, candy, ice cream, galleries, restaurants, etc. The Hampton Inn is just steps away from all this fun. The sunset over the river after an early dinner with an ice cream cone from Fantastic Fudge makes for a great day.

By Dot K |

The historic district is full of shops and restaurants. It is easy walkable. Be sure to catch a sunset at the Salty Pelican upstairs.

By Moxie30 |

Self guided tour is easy while ambling towards a bar or restaurant. A variety of architecture - easy to walk, shop and eat.

By FisCon |

We went to town several times and enjoyed walking around, having dinner or apps and drinks, and shopping a bit. Great feel and nice at sunset especially.

By PeeDeeR |

This is a great hidden away town providing a fun way to spend an afternoon (or evening). Great old buildings and churches. fun shops & restaurants. Head down to the marina for gorgeous sunset photos. Very walkable town.

Wander around and look at some of the old homes. These two are right across from each other and are totally different builds and design

By erinmaryjoy |

Beautiful and interesting place to walk around, day or night. Lots of cute shops, lots of restaurant choices. Many historic buildings to view along the walk as well.

By DCLMom |

We enjoyed a morning walk around town while visiting the area. It’s a user cute downtown with really friendly shop owners. The visitors center was nice and had a restroom for visitors. The waterfront area is really nice. There were several beautiful old homes, I love this old part of Florida.

By Charlene A |

Center Street just off the harbor is a shopper's paradise all in the space of just a few blocks. Lovely clothing, resort wear, household items, gifts, you name it - oh, and great restaurants abound all over the district. We did not anticipate what a fun place it would be, and we have enjoyed it all winter long!

By Ceames11 |

Really enjoyed hanging out in the Amelia Island Historic District. There are lots of lovely little shops and several places to eat and drink! The thing I enjoyed most about it, though, was just the relaxed, easy-going vibe of the area. Really enjoyed our afternoon there and will look forward to going back!

By dixiedog2015 |

The historic district of Amelia Island was quaint and architectural in nature, but the people of friendly and helpful.

By Mary M |

Amelia Island is currently a hidden gem on the verge of big things! I really think it is getting ready to blow up with tourism, so best go now before it changes.

It is a lot like St. Augustine was about 10 years ago, before it was overrun with tourists. It is quaint, with a small-town feel, and lots of history as well as fun and interesting attractions, shopping and great restaurants. It is small enough to park your car and walk to enjoy everything the Amelia Island Historic District has to offer. There are several bars with good night life and local live music. There is the bayfront, with the beach and Fort Clinch nearby.

I had a great time and highly recommend spending a few days in Amelia Island/Fernandina Beach.

By Mayleesa |

enjoyed walking around this little tourist town, didnt have too much time to fully enjoy but will definitely come back with longer to stay.

By Crystal B |

Take your time in this little town it is quite beautiful with alot of things to do. We shopped and ate and drank. All within 2 hours

By Jaguar F Type |

What a great little area. Plenty to see and explore. Tons of shopping and restaurants. Very easy to walk.

By sandskaren38 |

did a walking tour of the Amelia Island Historic District. Picked up a map which showed the locations of several historic homes. the homes were beautiful and the stories behind them were very interesting. and while walking through the town I shopped at every store-antiques and other businesses. ate lunch at The Salty Pelican and I definitely recommend it. I drove up here from St Augustine, FL and it was well worth the trip.

By Marimee19 |

I love little towns like this: architecturally stunning, walkable, tree-lined, by the water, the list goes on.

By CasTrav26 |

Lots of interesting shops and fun things to see walking down the wide, clean sidewalks. A must see on any trip to Amelia Island.

By Gary L |

As first time visitors to this very quaint island city, there was plenty of history to be had. We stayed 3 nights at the Addison Inn on Ash a very comfortable Inn with the owners and Inn keepers Lisa and Ron. We used the their bikes and had an enjoyable over 6 mile bike ride. The convenience of the Inn to the Historic District was perfect we parked our car and walked to the Marina, downtown area, shopping and dining. We took a boat trip to Cumberland Island where we got a great history lesson, saw wild horses and plenty of Dolphins well worth the trip on Amelia Island River Cruises. We enjoyed several restaurants during our stay including, for lunch Timoti's for fresh seafood and Peppers for Mexican and Margaritas. We also enjoyed our Dinners and cocktails at the Patio on 5th and Ash, Caio Italian and the Indigo all of our meals were outstanding. We also lived the live music at several locations including the Boathouse, The Patio on 5th and Ash as well as the Green Turtle.

By moma1031 |

Park and stroll down the road at all the mom and pop type stores and eateries. Busy little section of town. Had a great lunch at Amelia Tavern that was also hustling. Streets nearby are lined with Victorian homes. Good stop while touring Amelia Island.

By SaltwaterDream |

The historic district was educational and fun to walk. There are plenty of tourist shops and restaurants to check out that you really don't need to drive anywhere if you chose to stay at one of the hotels nearby. We went to the farmers market on Saturday which was a nice surprise with all of the local pastries, vegetables and art.

By aroberts29223 |

Wife and I spent a week at Amelia Island and the Historic District was
quite interesting with the shops and coffee houses. Numerous restaurants to choose from from pizza to fine dining.
We enjoyed setting out in front of a coffee shop having a Latte and eating soft serve ice cream.

By RGS318 |

The town of Fernandina Beach, which contains the historic district of Amelia Island, is a delight. The shops homes and history all blend together in a way that is both unique and entertaining. The Museum of History is small but a very full experience. The trolly ride is entertaining (but for $20 each the audio system needs to be put into working condition immediately). Much of what the guide said could not be heard by anyone beyond the first seat. As a long-time history teacher and living history reenactor, I was impressed by the amount of information I learned for the first time at every location. Prices for attractions are in the $20-$30 range with lower prices for children but no senior discounts.

By jmart37588 |

Quaint beach town with historic downtown area. Old architectural buildings have been kept in excellent condition. Several good restaurants nearby.

By Mary D |

Lots of different shops and Eating places all within walking distance. The area was clean and the people were friendly.

By dyklee1029 |

This is a very well kept district on the Island with many shops and eateries. Take time to take in the ambience and enjoy the pleasant sights. Parking spaces are free which was very refreshing!!

By MaureenT7224 |

We really enjoyed walking around Center St. There are lots of nice shops and plenty of great restaurants to choose from. We were there on a rainy day and still enjoyed our walk. It is a little tricky finding a parking spot but there is a small lot at the end of the street near the water.

By kkrill |

We were there for a short time but had fun walking from out hotel (Hampton Inn and Suites), getting dinner at a fun/funky crap shack restaurant (Crab Trap) and got ice cream on the way home (Fantastic Fudge)

By kfadams |

We visited Amelia Island for the first time, to visit our son, who has been there for 6 months on a job. I've been to many areas of FL over the course of my lifetime, however, this is the first time I've ever visited this area. We absolutely loved the downtown area, which was filled with stores, restaurants, bars, etc. We found some amazing eateries and enjoyed the history of Amelia Island. We were in the new Courtyard by Marriott, which is just across the street from the beach. This particular hotel had a great pool area, but like so many others, it was quite obvious that they were understaffed. I noticed that the visitors primarily seemed to be families with children and senior citizens. There is a chilled vibe to this town and most restaurants seemed to close by 9:00 p.m. There is something for every age, including the Amelia Island National Park (which includes Fort Clinch and access to a more private beach (but swimming is not allowed???). I would highly recommend visiting this town, it's well worth the time it takes to get there!

By KMY34109 |

How very cool to stroll down in the Historic District. From the old houses and post office to the train it was so enchanting.

It is refreshing to see downtown has not been demolished and made contemporary.

The charm of the shops and people around town was nice.

Seeing people at the coffee shop arrive on horseback was a bonus.

Loved the history being posted to read as you walked around and a year round Christmas store.

A great way to spend an afternoon.

By Clevlander |

The downtown district of Amelia Island is beautiful, well preserved, and very historic. It is not very large and very walkable in a morning or afternoon where you’ll have an opportunity to visit multiple local shops, restaurants, and cafés. The exterior of the buildings are all very well preserved and retain their historic value. Although most people come to the island for the beach, sand and weather, the historic district is something that they could be very proud of.

By Loucardsfan |

This is a great area to spend the afternoon or visit after dinner. Lots of little shops to browse through. There are numerous restaurants in the area. Ice cream shops are plentiful, too. The sunset over the water is lovely and if you have kids, they will enjoy seeing the trains pass thru town.

By gosomeplace |

You can spend about half a day strolling through this quaint district. Some antique stores and cool restaurants all the way up to the waterfront.

By Dennis J |

We like Historic amelia island very much. Nice downtown with nice shops. Book store, ladies shoes and clothes. Plenty of restaurants. Close to the river. Nice Victorian style homes. Lots,of benches. Art galleries.

By vawgrc |

The cracker style homes with old Spanish moss draping over them, a picture of the south. The small cafe nestled in between and shops. Makes it fun to see the history surrounding you

By Beaches-Caribbean |

We enjoyed 2 days on Amelia Island celebrating our 19th Wedding Anniversary - highlights were dinner at Ritz-Carlton Coast Restaurant, shopping downtown Centre Street shops, walking the Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach trails, Sunset off the Pier after a lovely dinner at Brett's! Expensive place but great for a special occasion. The 19th century architecture was eye candy and the History Museum was enlightening. Well worth a visit!

By Alexis B |

It’s such a beautiful area of Amelia Island, with lots of shops, cafés, restaurants and bars. Whether during the day or at night, on rainy or sunny days, it was a place I couldn’t get enough of. I’d recommend into online reviews to select the best ones, mainly those that offer great food and great ambiance.
I was there after New Year and they still had the holiday decorations, which added to the experience. I also stumbled on a Saturday morning market, which made it an even better experience.

By seasidegirl603 |

Boasting with great architecture, historic homes and beautiful buildings. There are many restaurants to choose from. There are an abundance of boutiques, antique shops and stores to visit. Love this place!

By Maggie1122 |

Love this little area. Not what I consider touristy. A combination of great restaurants and boutique stores.
Original art, clothing, antique store, jewelry, just a nice place.
I walked the street before deciding to go into each store. Spend a couple of hours, which included lunch.
From my hotel, the Omni Amelia Plantation it was $25.00 one way. The hotel made arrangements for transportation.

By OrlandoRachel |

We visited yesterday for the first time. We found it to be a little kitschy. The nature was beautiful on parts of the island. We are not concerned about the Covid virus but were shocked to see how they were packing people into the ice cream and fudge shop. One woman was practically growing out of my shoulder. Really, no one was practicing distancing and for certain the shop owners were not concerned about limiting the number of people as the money was rolling in.

By Lynne P |

Nice and varied shops and restaurants and a pedestrian-friendly shopping area. Well-stocked boutiques and friendly shopkeepers.

By Felicia B |

Beautiful quaint town. I really love this area and wished I lived there. It is the idyllic town to raise a family.

By bjw97 |

Love being able to walk around in the Historic District and never having to get in your car. A good assortment of shops and restaurants and friendly shop owners.

By chpkb |

Make sure to stop at the visitor center to get a list of the historic places. Enjoyed walking the town and looking at the architecture but wish the houses had info printed somewhere.

By Experience647484 |

Nice place to visit Cute little shopping area with nice shops Waterfront dining Historic district. Dog friendly

By kathryn b |

On a professional trip, this was our hub. Great historical coverage, while providing local flavor of products as well as entertainment. Strolling is recommended and there is street parking available, both night and day. Most businesses close really early, but a couple of pubs offer live entertainment to cap off the day.

By juls2go |

Loved this area. Good food, great ice cream, old buildings, and the welcome center to get you started. Great for shopping and browsing and easy to navigate.

By Kate D |

Coming for the UK and a regular visitor to the USA we are sometimes disappointed when visiting ‘historic districts’ This one was a lovely exception so many beautiful buildings and houses. Glad the bulldozers had not been allowed. The locals were very friendly and gave advice on where to get a good coffee. Free parking!

By Chris K |

Lots of tourist shops, a pedestrian walk area. About 7 blocks long. Plenty of restaraunts and eateries. For the historic walkabout there are a few buildings and homes to see, but for the most part, the town caters to tourism. Took a couple of hours wondering around before heading to the Beach.

By Kelly L |

This wonderful historic downtown was the favorite part of our visit to Amelia Island. Buildings were very interesting (don't forget to stop by the Pippi Longstocking house) and the people were all so friendly. We happened to be there on a first Friday where they had a fun family friendly street party put on by their local pirate club. We loved the quirky Ship's Lantern gift store. We walked over to the local Museum which we enjoyed. Lots of great restaurants and they were all good with friendly service. We could totally move to this wonderful little town!

By seva392015 |

The historical district is small and the speed limit is slow enough you can drive around and look at all the old homes. There is a huge tree in the middle of the road. You can drive around it. Downtown you can get out and walk around to the shops and restaurants. It is not packed and loud like Gatlinburg. Everything ends at the waterfront. They have a working train. Love it. Peaceful. It may be a little more crowded in summer, but I don't swim anyway, so I like to go in March.

By Ray M |

We had a great time grabbing a meal, strolling the many shops and taking a seat to people watch. What a fun and unique town.

By stephanie b |

You can spend a wonderful day wandering in the cute shops, eating the delicious food and tasting the wine. This is a wonderful day trip with all the charm of the south.

By Madchef p |

The historic district is the perfect place to spend time when on the island. Quaint shops, antiques, specialty shops, restaurants, tours, this spot has it all. You won't be disappointed.

By Joy |

What a quaint little town!! Shops were awesome as was the plethora of restaurants! Great area to take a leisurely stroll and enjoy the local atmosphere!! Very pet friendly too!

By FLIrishLass |

This area is small and easy to walk around.. There are fun shops and restaurants all up and down the street. This is a can't miss for visiting the Island.

By Jay |

This is a fun place to walk around, but it’s expensive. You can find any kind of ice cream you can imagine, and all kinds of souvenirs. You won’t find much else unfortunately.

By pfefmeister |

Spent a half day here and thoroughly enjoyed it. Quaint and upscale, there are nice shops, old churches, and quite a few restaurants and bars to check out. Free parking is a plus. I think visiting it for the day is enough if you are close by. We were staying in St. Augustine Beach, about 90 minutes away.

By Beachcomberemeritus |

Center St. is a vibrant place to stroll and browse, with unique shops and lots of choices for restaurants and bars. You may have to search and be a little patient to find a parking place. The lot behind the library on 4th St. is a good bet.

By cubanbucky |

Very clean and nice area. People actually stop and talk to you. Parking was very easy ti find. The shops are a little expensive but most had some nice items. It was a nice day so we spent the day by the dock and watched the pelicans.

By Dan |

Very few visitors when we were there the week before Labor Day. We walked the district and stopped at a few shops. They are not the typical tourist trap cookie cutter junk shops. You can find a unique item to take home.

By mrbill |

Very nice and old town feel to this area. Many shops and places to eat along with history to be learned as well. Ship marina at the end of it is the cake topper. Many old historic houses all around the area as well with most stores occupying old bldgs as well on the main drag. Worth a visit if staying on Amelia island.

By jonesdab |

Girls only trip. Love this town you have the best of both. The beach and a stylish little town. It has unique little shops along with great eats. It is absolutely charming. Can't wait to return!!

By William W |

Parking is free with a 3 hour limit. More than enough time to complete the self guided tour (Guide Booklet free at Visitor's Center) and still have time for lunch.

We are glad we did it as we were able to view and read about a lot of historic century old buildings.

However, very disappointed in the quality of shops. Mostly touristy stuff that is not unique to the area. We can find the same stuff back home in St. Petersburg where all the tourist shops are located.

Still worth walking around and maybe having lunch but don't expect to go on a shopping spree unless you want to buy a coaster with your name on it or a refrigerator magnet with the outline of Amelia Island on it.

By martini632 |

The historic district of Fernandina Beach has a terrific variety of first class restaurants, quaint shops and vibrant personality. Most of this is clustered around Centre St. Additionally there are many historic homes on nearby side streets. There are some excellent guides for walking this district. The bookstore on Centre St is worth browsing, too.

By borrowpitadventures |

Lovely, fun, family street fair with games and great foods! Shop owners were out in Dickens costumes.. jazz band at was fantastic "King Guys". Would love to go again! Great little town.

By Nadrod |

The weary travelers we arrived to Amelia Island around 5 pm with a plan to have a dinner and a stroll in the Historic District. By six pm, we were completely exhausted and decided to order the dinner in. I was sorry and upset but the health has its privilege! The next morning we had another 370 southern miles to drive to our home but would not leave without seeing the District. We are glad we did! We were the only car slowly sailing through one-way streets by quiet elegant buildings. It was a glorious early morning with all the available parking and empty early coffee shops. We drove to the water and stopped to take photos, we looked at the gardens and in complete bliss were centuries back! That was the best time !

By Becky P |

We enjoyed our time together in the historic district. Really charming area with great shops and history. We loved the antique shops, gift shop and ice cream shop. The old post office, church and homes were fun to see too.

By David B |

The historic district is so lovely. Great shops, fantastic restaurants and just a neat vibe. The only problem....you need more than a day to take all of it in!

By ExploringD2 |

This downtown area is lovely, situated along the water with lots of history, shops, restaurants and more. It's nice to stroll around and enjoy.

By Matt P |

Nice little town in Florida. a lot shops were closed that was sad to see. This downtown area is lovely, situated along the water with lots of history, shops, restaurants and more. It's nice to stroll around and enjoy.

By Jwebuser |

We parked at the Center Street, started to walk along strrets on both sides, a lot of shops here but closed on Christmas day, we still could do last minutes window shopping, during busy time, parking could be a problem.

By Cindyriver7649 |

Don’t miss spending lots of time browsing the historic district. The shops are wonderful as are the historic buildings and restaurants. It’s a must see.

By srobertsmob |

This quaint town is a great place to shop, eat, drink or just enjoy the view of the water. We went for our 45th wedding anniversary and enjoyed all of it. We ate at David’s and were definitely pleased with the 5 star dinner and experience.

By Jesse C |

I went here with my girlfriend and we were both pleased. There was a decent selection of stores and restaurants but not overwhelming. We were both hoping for a little more in the area but you could definitely spend a few hours here. Still worth walking around if in the area.

By EilSat |

This is an old Florida town with lots of restaurants and gift shops. It is right near the water and great photo opportunities,

By orgrisal |

A lot of little stores where you can enjoy buying gift, also few place where you can drink beer or wine share with seafood and have fun time.

By Nancys |

First of all, the historic district is so much fun but on top of that, we were there for pajama weekend. Everyone was out in their pj's including the dogs. There are lots of t shirt shops but there are some nice ones as well and lots of restaurants. It is worth the visit.

By Joy C |

We expected a beach community... and were very happy to discover this quaint town. Easy stroll... few block area. Homes are a mix of low country and New England. All frame and gingerbread. Moss covered trees and palms add to charm.

By 518dannyd |

Staying downtown was so much more fun and convenient and never stopped us from heading to the beach, 1 mile away. The shops and restaurants down there were great and fun. The music in the bars was really good as well.

By Leah R |

Super quaint shops and area to walk around after dinner. A lot of the stores closed early so we didn't get to go in, but still beautiful and serene to enjoy the area.

By Winedineandtravel |

Very lovely town with a New England-y feel. Decent restaurants (a couple of fantastic ones) and fun shopping!

By Rose K |

The town is laid out and marked clearly so that you can walk and look at your leisure. Stop and shop or find out the history of this seaport. The main street is lined with shade trees, lovely shops on both sides. Very friendly citizens offering help and suggestions when asked.

By Glinda L |

A nice walk around town. Can easily walk the whole area of shops, eateries and some up scale dining.

By menbx5 |

The Amelia Island Historic District is comfortable for walking.
Nice shady trees and plenty of room on the sidewalks, makes this a nice area to stroll.

By Bernadette Cf |

Excellent for those loving the beach.and water sports. Plenty of restaurants in downtown which is not walkable from beach.

By Eli D |

Wonderful downtown with so many unique shops, amazing restaurants, and things to see! We love it here!

By ellenkay |

The historic district is so pretty.... lovely old homes restored... great restaurants and darling little shops within walking distance; plenty of parking.... Loved Amelia Island!!!

By Cindy W |

Nice small town. Not too many shops, only few less expensive ones. Nice though for a stroll. Some unusual antique shops and inns in the side streets.

By Caroljk |

Strolling the Amelia Island historic district is truly a joy. The streets are lined with locally owned restaurants, shops, artisans, and just enough tee shirt and ice cream shops to make it family fun. Leave about two hours to enjoy the sights, unless you stay for dinner, which I recommend! Wonderful place.

By John C |

Decided to go to this historic area to walk around and look at all the shops, boutiques, and restaurants they have to offer. Be warned that parking is hard to come by and you might have to walk.
While walking through this historic area we enjoyed live music and all the different stores they have to offer.it is a good way to spend in afternoon and then either grab a quick drink or a nice meal.

By Randy W |

The best part is the whole town has free parking so there is no stress in making sure you will expire! Well maintained and clean. I suggest taking either the Trolley ride or boat ride to get the history with anecdotes. It would be hard to make sense if you only used the well done walking tour booklet we got at the Welcome Center in the old train depot. Plenty of public restrooms in the Comfort Station next to the depot.

By Luke S |

Lots of cool shops in the downtown area. Two antique stores that had some great finds. We ate at several good restaurants.

By Arod27 |

We toured all of AI on our recent trip, but nothing compared to this area! The shops are second to none, the night life is fantastic, pedestrian life at its best! Nothing touristy here, just a really eclectic mix of antiques, jewelry, clothing, food, desserts....there is something here for everyone whether you are young, older, family with kids, or couples. Just a perfect way to spend the day.

By laller2016 |

Wandering the streets, shopping and trying all of the good restaurants are a family tradition and we LOVE it!

By Brian S |

We loved learning about the history of this interesting area. We found great antique shops. There are excellent art galleries and nice restaurants. For us, the most attractive feature was the beautiful old homes of the historic district within an easy walk of Centre Street. Photographers will love this place.

By JMark133 |

Great for shopping for take home gifts. Get those Christmas and birthday presents. Unique items for every budget. Or just browse and enjoy the history.

By Oldjack |

The old buildings have been well maintained in the historical area of the town and although the shops are restaurants and tourist places they have not lost their old historical feel. The buildings with history are well signed and the place has an excellent feel to it and has not developed into a tacky tourist trap like so many historial places in the US.

By reise3 |

Fernandina Beach has one of the prettier historic districts in Florida. Centre Street is lined with trees that twinkle at night and historic buildings that have been refurbished and house a variety of shops and restaurants. The long street gently & unexpectedly curves along trees, which adds to the charm. It's easily walkable and safe at night. We noticed a huge difference between the crowds on the weekend and weekdays. Be sure to check out the side streets for neat architecture and additional restaurants. Parking can be an issue.

By JackofPBFL |

One could spend hours here without spending a penny. There is so much to see. I don't think it is possible to window shop at every store and enter some in a day. There are also paid attractions and loads of eating places. A great vacation destination!

By JeanH1978 |

My husband and I love downtown Fernandina. The area was very nice and safe. The shops that we chose to enter were fabulous. We visited the fun shop, vintage donuts, and the tea and spice store. Everything was clean and everybody we met was very, very nice. We will be visiting again sometime in the future.

By annrich7 |

Worth spending the day here! Lots to see! Architecture is amazing! Eat to your hearts content! Museums and other attractions are reasonably priced! Saturday is farmers market and it is fabulous! Just go !You will love it!

By Victoria S |

The diversity of shops here is overwhelming and so much fun! From local craft shops to ice cream parlors, this area has it all!

By Linda J |

We were looking forward to a nice stay, but found the town not as good as we had hoped...lots of shabby buildings and people drinking. Loud at night with marginal bands which disturbed us in our hotel. Just a party atmosphere, and not what we were hoping for.

By Diane L |

A great way to spend an afternoon. An eclectic mix of shops and restaurants to keep everyone in our group happy.

I’ve lived in Fernandina Beach and it’s Historic District area on and off for 15 years. I’ve moved to NYC and Savannah only to return. Our Centre Street shopping is Mayberryesque while offering contemporary style great eats and Charm.

We visited the welcome center in the old railway station. They had great resources and we followed the walking tour for historic homes and enjoyed the homes and easy walk very much. Charming, compact downtown area-very walkable. We would stay in a historic B&B to be able to walk to these shops and restaurants.

Remarkably charming historic old town. Great restaurants and shopping including galleries to gift shops. The lighting after dark was charming.

This was our first visit to Fernandina Beach and we were pleasantly surprised by the laid back and quietness of the area. I felt totally safe. The town offers many nice shops, ice cream, bars, and restaurants. I gave it 4 stars because a lot of the local shops close at 5:00 or 6:00 making it difficult to visit at dinnertime. The streets offer plenty of benches under shade trees to rest during the hot summer sun.

Lots of history, lots of fun, lots of restaurants, lots of places to shop all in a cute little town. Great place to spend an afternoon or meet friends for a dinner and a drink or shop all by yourself. Very friendly residents and lots of festivities during the Christmas season.

Close your eyes while you are on Center Street in Fernandina Beach and then open them quickly and you feel as if you have been transported to Cape Cod or Maine but with a distinctive Southern Style. Small shops, lots and lots of restaurants - Mexican, French, Spanish, Seafood, Italian - take your pick. We immediately fell in love with this historic town. Walk the side streets and you will find fabulous Victorian homes with gardens. What a great place for a getaway.

Lovely little town with many restored homes. We took the carriage ride when we arrived, good way to see the town.

After attending a wedding in Fernandina, we decided to spend Sunday exploring the Amelia Island Historic District. I'd visited only once prior, probably fifteen years earlier, but that windy March day with maximum temps reaching into the high fifties was not conducive to strolling waterfront streets to explore the sights. Fortunately, during my second visit our balmy mid-October setting turned out to be ideal.

I was pleased to learn that the historic district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2021, so it will always be preserved for future generations to enjoy. The Visitor Center, located in a renovated railroad depot, was closed on Sunday, so we decided to wing it.

Our first stop was Amelia Island Coffee, which offers a good selection of gourmet blends. After enjoying iced coffees we headed toward the riverfront and found the historic site of the Revolutionary War invasion in 1777 as well as the site of Florida's first Atlantic coast to Gulf coast railroad in 1853. The tracks that run parallel to the river are still in place, and we walked them like hobos for a few blocks to check out some old train cars parked there.

I'm always fascinated with our history, so we took time to stop and read about the war and the railroad and the William Bartram Trail, named after a naturalist who spent four years documenting the unique flora and fauna of our state. The street is lined with historic buildings, like the US Post Office & Customs House that opened in 1912 and the Nassau County Courthouse, which opened in 1891 and is one of few remaining courthouses in Florida that were built in the 19th century. I would have loved to tour the Lesesne House, built circa 1860, which might be the only post and beam construction house remaining on the island.

Shopping is especially interesting in the historic district because far more options are available than the typical tourist trinket and clothing boutiques that I'm accustomed to seeing. The Christmas store alone was worth an hour of our time, and the gourmet tea shop is irresistible. Check out Pelindaba Lavender, which sells everything lavender (and nothing else).

Our visit could not have been more perfect. The total area of the historic district heart is only a few blocks long - not one/tenth the size of Saint Augustine's ancient city and not half as old. But it's incredibly charming nonetheless. If this wasn't a 2-hour drive from home, I could make a habit of spending time here.

Historic downtown is right on the water, easy walking to historic buildings, The Palace Saloon is the oldest operating saloon in Florida. The courthouse is a step back in time- amazing!

We loved the area with its cute shops and restaurants. You can even watch the sunset from the Mariana area which was beautiful.

I would describe the historical district as a cross between Florida and Oregon. Just the right amount of crunchiness.
Wonderful selection of shops and restaurants in a quaint old beach town. Next time we will definitely bring our bikes!

The historic district is very cute. There are shops and a few restaurants, but none of them feel “touristy”. We visited a couple times on our long weekend. I love that there is such amazing history, and that we could support local businesses.

The historic district of Fernandina is very nice and is filled with a lot of neat shops and restaurants. It’s definitely worth checking out.

Loved spending time strolling the downtown historical shopping area which is right off the river front. It is clean, well lite, streets are narrow and mostly one ways but has signs on each corner to help locate all shops, restaurants and places of interest. Welcome center is also there and has lots of information for tours, fishing, cycling and just about any thing else you would want to do. Everyone there was helpful and friendly.

My husband and I went to old town on a sunny Saturday afternoon. The town was busy as there was a chili cook off going on and some of the streets were blocked off. There are shops and restaurants along the streets. There is an area along the water that has a few shops and a restaurant. The trolley can be seen going through town. I enjoyed walking and looking at all the historical buildings. We even took a short car ride to see the Pippi Longstocking House as it's known. We really had a great afternoon.
