Good monument to fishermen. Kind of moving. I'm glad I went and would recommend others to do so. Easy parking.

The Fishermen Memorial is located on the Gloucester Center and a must stop if visiting Gloucester. The memorial pays tribute to all the fishermen who lost their lives. There is a plaque with the name of the local fishermen lost at sea. In conclusion, I recommend going even if it's for only 5-10 minutes.

This tribute to the fallen fisherman of Gloucester is very nice. It is in a beautiful location and is a fine tribute to those who have lost their lives. It is interesting to read through all of the names on the plaques and see the many family members that went down on the same ships.

An old statue reminding us of the fishermen and women that have gone before us great photo op. very nice

Walk along the Boulevard in a cold, stiff wind, look at the plaques of names of fishermen who died at sea, watch small fishing boats heading out to sea, and then stop at the Fisherman's statue. That's a snapshot of this town.
One of the best things about Gloucester is that it is totally authentic. Take a walk from the Beauport Hotel, along the beach or the Boulevard, up to Stage Fort Park and back.

Beautiful monument in a beautiful place. Take a moment to reflect on all those who did not make it home. A nice monument to honor l all those souls who were lost at sea.

Wonderful memorial of those fishermen that were lost at sea. Located on the waterfront with benches to sit on to enjoy the summer breeze and the ocean. Would recommend stopping to see the statue.

This is a must visit when in the area. The memorial lists names of all fishermen who died. It's a beautiful area with beautiful views. Very clean and well kept up with, as well, walking area. You can find all sorts of dogs with their owners playing ball on the beach.

Lots of walking, and viewing of the area! Checked out Rockport as well! And shopped for plants at Wolf Hill Gardens!

I remember the first time I saw this monument, and read all of the memorials there. Now I live in the area and take everyone of my guests there. It is an absolute must-see on the North Shore. It costs nothing, has a lovely walkway along the shore where you can watch ships. The fishermen's memorial is not just a single statue, but the statue is the centerpiece. Further down is a memorial to the families of those who died at sea--a large statue of a mother and her children looking out to sea. There are plaques with the names of the individuals who were lost at sea.

For those of us that don't live near a coastline, this memorial is very moving. I, unfortunately, rarely thought about the fishermen that risk their lives to provide food for these seaport towns. It definitely made me think about what it was like 100+ years ago when the technology we have today was not available. Husbands, fathers, brothers and sons would go to work and in some cases not come back. The sea is their burial ground. While we have better technology today, it's still a hard job being a fisherman. I'm glad we visited and I'm thankful for these brave men.

If you travel to Gloucester, stop for a bit to take in this monument and read some of the names inscribed on the plaque. It’s a fitting tribute to all those fishermen who were lost at sea. The view of the harbor and ocean offshore compliment this location.

On our New England tour, departing from Salem we arrived in Gloucester with a must stop at this iconic monument. It 'a fishing village and exudes it from all over, which is why we loved it.

Wonderful picture opportunity....and a great part of history to read about. Lovely boardwalk along the water to stroll

Tribute to all the fishermen who have been lost at sea along a beautifully patriotic boulevard covered with American flags over a draw bridge (so cool waiting to see a boat pass through if your lucky) makes this a must stop!

You have to visit the monument when in Gloucester. It's on the beautiful Gloucester Harbor walk where there are dozens of American flags, the wives memorial, a small beach and free parking. Parking can be scarce on weekends.

This monument is the center of a beautiful seaside walk way that is very well kept that is far less crowded than other areas by the sea.

We went whale watching in the morning and then stopped by the Fisherman's Memorial which was very well kept and beautiful. It was so amazing, yet sad to see how many lives have been lost to the seas. Very historical place.

The view of the fisherman overlooking the sea with the flags and memorial names is quite moving. The prayer plaque has a beautiful verse. I'm glad we found this while doing the Harbor Walk in Gloucester, MA.

It took a bit of looking but once you see all the flags its hard to miss, so dont give up. Its a fabulous memorial and statue along with the names of some 5000 fishermen lost at sea over 400 years. Its a magical place, well done for keeping it up so well

A beautiful walk along the ocean bay with this lovely monument to honor those lost at sea, Lots of free parking along the sides of the road and the draw bridge going up to let the boats in and out was pretty cool to see. A beautiful spot to sit and relax.

There have been 1,000s of Gloucester fishermen who have died. The memorial is a solemn reminder and appreciation for the "men who go down to the sea."

I obviously heard of this town a while ago from the movie The Perfect Storm. I have always wanted to come here and glad I did. I can’t wait to come out in the summer when the town comes to life I’m sure!

It’s a beautiful place you can park right along the street and see the monuments and the water. There’s a long list of im sure mostly men who lost their lives trying to feed their families. Quite a few with the same last names beside each other very sad.

This statue is the heart of Gloucester. The memorial to all lost at sea is powerful and please don't miss the Fishermens' Wives and Children statue just down the form Fishermen's Memorial. It is a stunning tribute to the stoic families who wait for safe returns to the harbor.

Been here several times but this time came just after a rain, thunderstorm and close to sunset. It was so peaceful and stunning!

Great seafront. Statue itself is nothing special. But there is a good run along the seafront. Also a nice ice cream store nearby.

A long waterfront with some significant statues and a lot of flags. Good for a walk, a run or a dog walk. The legacy of the port is there on the sailors’ memorial, with many tragic years. A lovely place overall with great views. The raising bridge can cause some traffic delays of 5 mins or so.

I have seen this memorial in many movies. It was great to see it in person. Lists many of the individuals that have died getting us the food we eat.

When in Gloucester, this simple monument is a must visit. A memorial to fishermen, it just evokes the area for me. I appreciate it every time I see it.

More than fish sticks and other stereotypical statements. The statue is the best landmark in town. Perhaps it’s most photographed. Fun town to explore.

If you get a nice day walk around and see the statues. Walk down to the beach and go to the Fort Park.

If you have a chance this is a great place to relax and reflect, sit and watch the boats and have an ice cream at the local shop.

Standing with your back to the sea or standing In front of the statue facing the ocean a perfect spot to contemplate the fishermen and women who, “go down to the sea in boats” a must see while visiting Gloucester.

Easy parking for the car, very nice sunny day to sit and observe the boats in the harbor, and the people walking by. Life's nice moments in a nutshell.

Stopping to see this sculpture is one of those things one does when visiting Gloucester. It is right on the boardwalk by the ocean and is a great representation of the fisherman's experience in New England.

Lovely walk with the American flags lining the walk way. The statues and memorial were wonderful. We got to see the bridge come up.

Lovely monument to honor those lost at sea, definitely worth seeing and a lovely walk and view of the bay and also entertaining to see the draw bridge function as well.

There are two monuments to the fisherman who lost their lives at sea and the families
they left behind. They are on either end of the beautiful flag draped esplanade which borders the harbor area. Definitely worth a short visit.

This sight is great for people watching and to learn about local history... it is definitely a local hangout spot . It does not get overly crowded.

This is a monument for all fishermen and sailors lost at sea and went down with their ships. If your driving on main st. You will go by this monument. Very striking to see. Iconic to the area.

Such a beautiful tribute to those lost at sea. This promenade was such a humbling and beautiful tribute to those lost at sea and the people they left behind. At one end of the walk is the tribute to the men lost at sea along with their names and a brief history of some of the maritime disasters. Amongst the beautiful gardens along the path is another monument honoring the wives and children left behind. There was ample parking along the pathway and a great view of the sea. During low tide, there are steps down to the beach and it seemed ideal to look in the tidal pools for little creatures. There are benches, multiple flower gardens and a flag lined sidewalk to stroll down.

If you coming to Gloucester you have to visit the Fisherman's statue. It's history and background. also the memorial of all the local fisherman that have gone down to the sea are on placards.

Beautiful design the way the fisherman statue looks out over the names of the thousands who have lost their lives at sea in Gloucester. 1991 has the six from the Andrea Gail that were lost during'The Perfect Storm'.
Read the huge plaque for interesting history and statistics. Very touching tribute.

The statue is an icon for Gloucester and represents a deep history of the fishing community. Take time to look at all the names and think of all the families left behind. Then take time to walk the boulevard and enjoy the beautiful flowers planted by incredible volunteers.

My wife and I enjoyed visiting the Gloucester Fisherman's Memorial Monument. This is a very well-done tribute to those who lost their lives serving in a capacity they loved - fisherman.

This statute will make you reflect on our men lost at sea. Let your mind reflect upon the past of fisherman and sailors who struggled and fought against Mother Nature and sent down due to unforeseen circumstances.

What history 1623 - 1923 memorial for fisherman lost at Sea. This is a good tribute to those people!

Background information about losses back through the 1800s is fascinating. Looking at all of the names by year on the plaques is both impressive and humbling.

A moving statue on the Esplanade by the Harbor. It is found on Stacy Blvd just beyond the drawbridge. The town has done a great job with the gardens on the Esplanade also. It reminds me of the Longfellow Poem. A MUST SEE!

It was eye opening to see the names of those lost at sea. Men who put their lives in danger in order to provide for their families. Worth the time to visit.

I had seen this monument in so many tourist brochures that I expected it to be a sort of generic historical nod to the area's nautical history. Instead, it and the information plaques surrounding it offer a very personal and moving story about the hundreds of fishermen who lost their lives at sea. Similar in many ways to a war memorial, the plaques list the names of fishermen lost in certain years and often you will see three or four men from the same family lost in the same year. It's a beautiful monument in a beautiful location on Gloucester harbor, well worth a stop.

A beautiful tribute to all the fisherman who have lost their lives at sea. It is a very humbling and thought provoking memorial. Beautiful views of the sea from this beautiful location in this quaint little town

The Story Behind the Man at the Wheel
Also known as the Gloucester Fishermen’s Memorial, the statue stands on a five-foot granite on Stacy Boulevard over looking Gloucester Harbor. The eight-foot-tall statue depicts a fisherman in oilskins and sou’wester standing at the wheel on the leaning deck.
Sculpted by Leonard Craske, the monument was completed in 1925 in honor of Gloucester’s 300th anniversary. The inscription at the base of the statue, from the Bible’s Psalm 107:23, reads: “They That Go Down to The Sea in Ships, 1623-1923”. Circling the monument are plaques with the names of those lost at sea from 1716–2001. Six of the most recent names on the tile are those of captain and crew from the Gloucester-based Andrea Gail, the fishing vessel made famous in the book and film, “The Perfect Storm.”

Great tribute to fallen fishermen. Easy to find and in a beautiful location. There is also one for the fishermen's wives

When visiting Gloucester, you must go see this monument. It’s just a short walk (that can be done along the beach) from the downtown shops. The memorial is a significant part of Gloucester’s history and worth visiting for a few minutes to gain a better understanding.

During my recent visit to Gloucester Massachusetts one of the first attractions we encountered was the fisherman's Memorial. We must have stayed there observing, admiring, reading the entire Memorial, capturing photos and just taking it all in upon initial site. It's definitely a must-see when you go to Gloucester.

Easy walking and observations of Gloucesters protected harbors with exceptional spring and summer garden exhibits, oceanside viewing of schooners, small shops and famous sculptures representing seafaring life. Historic lost at sea documentation of those who did not come back to land from the sea, century long listings called cenotaphs engraved of those lost at sea. Beautiful and relaxing with benches, draw bridge, tennis courts and more.

The setting is beautiful and the statue itself is nice (but seeing it in person is not especially more memorable than seeing good photos). What does strike you are the many large plaques listing the names of so many sailors who died. So many, in fact, in a bunch of years there are small groups of the deceased acknowledged whose names are not known

Walked this pathway with our kids on our last day in Gloucester. I really wanted to see the fisherman's memorial and was glad we went out of our way to see it as our hotel was not nearby. People were out walking their dogs and playing on the beach. We got stuck waiting for the draw bridge going and coming which was fun to see the boats going by and everyone waving. Will definitely return to do this next time we are in Gloucester.

Located right on the waterfront, this memorial lists every Gloucester fisherman who went to sea and never returned. Difficult to imagine over 5000 have been lost.

This monument is located in a park that runs along the shore of the bay. It is a great walk from one end to the other. A great tribute to this fishing community.

This was a planned visit on our trip to the NE and it did not disappoint. Plenty of on street parking around the monument which was nice and to be able to see all the names of folks lost at sea was touching. A great view of the water as well with beaches nearby as well.

It is a nice memorial. There is a walking path where you can see the wive's memorial and stroll along the town entrance.

You cannot come to Gloucester without paying your respects to those lost at sea. Very emotional tribute.

There is a beautiful walk along the harbor that takes you to stage forte park, which is one of the prettiest parks you will ever see.
There are some other monuments along the walk. During low tide there is a little beach where my kids like to find sea glass

A fitting monument to fishermen lost at sea. Many of their names are permanently shown. The eight-foot-tall bronze statue figure looks out over the harbor. For fishermen who will hopefully return? This is a must-see if you're in town.

The perfect photo opt place of Gloucester. There is a boardwalk to enjoy and view the harbor. Benches if you don't want to walk and plenty of free parking.

Part if any seaside visit, easy drive by or walk along the path. Bring coffee and sit and think of all the fishermen that have hung into wheels fighting the ocean waves!

You will want to take the time to visit this memorial. It is a gorgeous remembrance to all the fishermen who lost their lives. There were 35 members of a family named Parsons who died over the years. Fabulous sculpture.

This statue is famous for the area. It pays tribute to the fisherman and the hard life they led. The movie "The Perfect Storm" was about the town and was filmed in the town.
Bring a picnic and sit on the benches or near by beach and enjoy the view of the harbor.
There are other statues near by relating to the history. The statue is at the end of route 129 then go left at the light.

This is a beautiful area and a beautiful moving tribute to Fisherman and to those lost at sea. There are more almost 6,000 names of people who never made it back to their families. Overlooking the harbor they lived and died for it is a must see for those visiting Gloucester.

I've been visiting this statue since my teens, and it's a power piece of sculpture. It's comforting it's there and always will be there to welcome up and remember courageous fishermen.

Sentimental and overlooking the seas, this was a must see for me. Humble and monumental. I came from Arizona and was not disappointed.

You can’t come here without thinking of all the men lost at sea fulfilling their dreams of working in the ocean.
Thank you

I was struck by the sheer numbers of fishermen who lost their lives simply by trying to earn a living. Visit this monument, and make sure you read the passages surrounding the memorial. Park on the street right behind the monument, and walk down to the "wives and children" statue as well. An important piece of American history.

I dragged my wife to this memorial and she thought it was pretty cool. I love the movie perfect storm and made it a point to visit the memorial on our trip.

Cool photo spot to take a picture. I always stop by when I’m in Gloucester. There’s a park right by the statue that I got some cool pictures of as well

Combined with plaques naming the lost seaman of Gloucester, this statue is beautifully presented on the Gloucester waterfront

A visit to Gloucester is not complete without a visit to the Fisherman's Memorial. It is a sobering experience as you read the hundreds and hundreds of names surrounding the area near the statue. I love that the quote at the bottom about they that go down to the sea in ships, is from the book of Psalms. The names found on the plaques around the Memorial, go all the way back to the 1700's, and are in memory of those who lost their life at sea, whether in the military, or as part of their daily lives. To see so many names makes you realize how hazardous such a life can be and how much we owe to those who provide such a service to us. There is also an area close by to allow you to get down to the beach below and walk along the shore. We went mid morning and there was hardly anyone on the beach, except other couples walking. It would be wonderful to live nearby and be able to take advantage of such an activity. Parking near the memorial was not difficult, but I suspect that also had to do with the time of year that we visiting (October). If you are going to be in Gloucester, you really should spend a couple of moments and visit this memorial.

Beautiful view and spectacular statue. Very sobering to see all the names of the men who have died at sea but a fitting memorial in honor of them and a wonderful historical site.

The monument overlooks the water in downtown Gloucester. It is very thought-provoking when you hear the story. It is located on a pretty walkway through the town- definitely a great place for a stroll. Unfortunately, it was raining the day we visited but still getting wet to see.

I loved the movie “ the perfect storm “ so I was delighted to come and visits this town and see this memorial. The boulevard is lovely to walk along on a lovely day, it is kept beautifully, very proud area.

An emotional memorial with some history and names of all deceased fisherman from Gloucester. Convenient on wharf. A must see!

Actually, a somewhat moving experience reviewing the names of those lost at sea from the Gloucester area over a 300 year period. Beautiful view of the ocean from this location and plenty of parking on the street nearby.

You can miss by going to the waterside park with the Gloucester Fisherman. Iconic in a cozy setting with great, great views. Yes, go and enjoy. Parking usually not a problem.

We noticed many bus tours that come through to see this monument. This is such a new tribute to all The waterman who have lost their lives in the sea.

Beautiful memorial for the fisherman lost at sea. Very sad to see all the names of the men that have passed over the years. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

A must walk during a visit to Gloucester, MA. The American flag festooned boulevard offers history and colorful, well maintained gardens and benches.

Had an Awesome night walking the boardwalk
Had a great time
Beautiful locks and scenery
Worth the trip

Instead of taking the normal tourist shot of the statue, with the busy traffic in the peoples houses in the background go behind the statue and take a shot looking out to see. It is very ominous and foretelling.

Beautiful, easy walk from the visitor center. We just walked all the way into Downtown area of Gloucester. Along the way we passed the Fishermen’s wives statute and this. Slow down the pace and take in the scenery.

It was a beautiful day and the memorial makes for an interesting backdrop. Doing 180 degrees and your facing the ocean.

We stared at Sugar Magnolias for breakfast. Took a ride down the street and there is a beautiful walkway that surrounds the ocean that brings you out to Stage Fort Park. Along the walk there are beautiful gardens which are very well kept. A few monuments. A beautiful draw bridge that was fun to watch go up for the boats. If its a nice day, its worth the trip. Nice walk, nice beach. At the end there is an area with cannons and a lookout area.

It's just as it appears in the movie although the tide was lower. There's a great view of the harbor and plenty of parking and a nice walking area along the harbor front. Just checked off another long time place I've wanted to see

Nothing to fancy, but a must do when local..a quick history lesson never hurts.. And a photo op to boot.. take the quick walk over

We came here to see the memorial purely because we come from sea faring families and because of the connection to the crew of the Andrea Gail, we were big fans of the Perfect Storm movie.
It was quite shocking just how many fishermen from here have perished at sea, very moving to see all their names inscribed and remembered here.

Honestly I didn’t realize this monument was anything special until a read another writers post. I did snap a photo though. Read other posts prior to visiting so you know it’s significance prior to visiting. Will make it more meaningful.
The 10 pound light House is a few feet away from this too. Be sure to see both.

You have seen this statue on the front of Groton's fish products but the statue is only part of this monument. The statue is facing a series of plaques that list the sailors of Gloucester who have been lost at see. It is an heartbreaking sight. In some years hundreds were lost. Thankfully, the numbers declined remarkably as the years went on. Yes, the victims of the "perfect storm" are listed.

Can’t help to feel somewhat somber at all of the names listed on the memorial walls. Very nice memorial worthy of a visit.

Parents lived here 67 yrs ago. They took a picture in front of the monument and we recreated it 67 years later😀. My Father has since past but this pic brought a tear to my 87 year old mothers eye.❤️

I have seen this monument my whole life long (over 60 years) and I never fail to be moved by it. That and the list of all the sailors lost at sea and the monument to the women is all beautifully done with the magnificent view of the ocean.

I have the ocean in my blood. This site evokes something from within. For anyone that feels that special thing for the water this is a must.

A must see when visiting Glouster. The setting is beautiful. The fisherman is facing the harbor. There is a beautiful memorial to those lost at sea. There is a concrete walkway all along the water with lovely flowers.

If you are going to Gloucester, this little park is a must visit, along with the fisherman’s wives memorial

This is a beautiful statue to commemorate the loss of those at sea. It is in a beautiful location. The flowers were beatiful.

Wonderful tribute to fishermen. A must see when visiting Gloucester. Great water view. Beautiful area. Peaceful.

Lovely memorial. Statue is a beauty. Names of those lost at sea on plaques in front of statue. View of the water. Nice walking area. We went on a beautiful fall day. Plenty of parking.

When you realize these are people who lost their lives just out to sea from here, it is very moving. Note 1862. So many lost their lives that year.. Note 1992, Billy Tyne, the Perfect Storm movie.

As a commercial fisherman this statue is powerful to those who understand how vast and unpredictable the sea can be.

I was on a tour of several parts of Gloucester. i grew up here and I still get emotional every time i visit this monument. there is a large memorial wall that lists all the names of the fishermen who have lost their lives. A few of my own relatives are listed there. It is a nice area to visit with benches to sit upon while looking out to sea. Also a nice walkway along the harbor. Nice vistas. You won't be disappointed.

The memorial statue is very nice but take the time to read the memorials and listen to the water. You really start to feel connected to those who gave their lives in pursuit of their dreams.

Such a beautiful stop overlooking the ocean. Loved the easy access and free parking. We just slid off the road into a one hour free parking spot and meandered down the walk. The monument and view of the ocean is picturesque. Don’t know if the flags are always lined up along the fence, but it was truly beautiful.

We walked from State Fort Park all the way to the harbor. It is a very
beautiful promenade street. There are some memorials to watch. This and that
We especially liked Fishermen's Wives. There are many benches to sit and
in our time it had great flower beds, full of dahlia flowers in all
Colors. Great effort was made to maintain these beds. It is very worth it
to make the whole walk cozy as there is much to see.

A touching tribute to our lost fisherman. The memorial is in a beautiful waterfront park, a perfect setting for an evening stroll.

If you are in Glosta to enjoy the history then you must take in the monument and shoreline. Reading the names, year by year, of those lost at sea made me appreciate a way of life so far removed from my own!

Wonderful memorial for families to enjoy. Beautiful, clean walking area, easy to park. Have been going each visit, since I was a child.

The statues down by the seashore and powerful reminders of the hard work and sacrifices of the communities of fishermen who are based in Gloucester. And let's not forget that they are Portuguese and Sicilian; if you walk down main street you'll often hear both languages, and I love this international feeling of lives lived at sea - but based in beautiful Gloucester.

There's no parking lot so you've got to park on the street it's a busy street so be careful. The monuments right up against the Bay easy to find has a fence around it to protect it so lovely monument. There's bronze flags that should be clean so you can see the name ceasar showing all the disease sailors who were lost at sea.
There's kids running jumping up on stuff it's it's just some memorial it's a memorial. Because it's on a path there's a lot of people walking by dogs et cetera it would be nice if there was a little canopy that people could stand under to look at the names or to suggest take pictures that reflect

It’s not just the statue. Looking over the names of sailors who lost their lives on the seas, you’ll be struck by a few things: the enormous number of people who died in this profession, year after year, especially in the second half of the 19th century; the number of members of single families (brothers? father’s and sons?) who died in the same year; the fact that so many kept going out to sea amid all this death. Be present to this and reflect.

Situated across from the magnificent arc of the bay, this monument is a pleasure to visit. Its larger-than-life scale, and uplifted gaze to sea justly symbolizes the city of Gloucester and the courage of thousands.

Beautiful statue facing the ocean dedicated to all the fisherman lost at sea. The list went on and on. It was a somber visit but well worth the visit too.

Simple memorial with a great view and short but worthy historical detail. It is easy to get to so I recommend it if you are anywhere close by.

When visiting Gloucester for a whale watch (or any other purpose) stop by the memorial. Nice views. Opportunity to view an important feature of Gloucester. Viewing time 5 to 15 minutes.

An excellent memorial to the fisherman that lost their lives doing this dangerous job! Very clean memorial!

It's a must see when in Gloucester. Very informative and gives you a lot of history about how the memorial came to be .

Beautiful little coastal town where movie/book/true story, "The Perfect Storm" took place. In the museum, there is a replica of the ship, the Andrea Gail.

You might not realize how many people died fishing from Gloucester. Every name is memorialized.
It is also a nice place to walk around and see the water. You can find a street spot nearby. Keep in mind that when the drawbridge is up, traffic is stopped for a while.
Also of interest for those who watched the show Bewitched and remember the episode that took place there.

While driving through Gloucester we got to see this iconic memorial statue. It commemorates all of the many fishermen from the area.

I visited this beautiful fishing town on a cold windy winter day. I just had to pass by this memorial. I looked out at the sea and could just imagine how women and children wait for their husbands and fathers to return from a hard night at sea. I admire the brave and we just have to pray for their safety.

Nice monument paying respect to the fishermen lost at sea. The location has great views and shouldn't be passed up.

Very moving and beautiful memorial. If you like history, this is a great stop. There is a wealth of information, and surprisingly, there was ample street-side free parking right next to it. Gorgeous view of the bay as well.

It was an emotional and moving experience to see the monument and the list of names that represent the vast number of fishermen and possibly women too that lost their lives to the sea.

Walking along the waterfront, I didn't realize what a dangerous job fishing was. It gave me an appreciation for all the lives lost at sea.

A can't miss if you are visiting Gloucester!
Right on the lovely waterfront walking path that ends at Stage Fort Park and beach.

This monument to all lost at sea is very moving! All the names are on bronze plaques along with their boats and dates lost at sea. It's a very beautiful statue. Not far away is another of a mother and two children with the words, "They also serve who only stand and wait."

If you are going to Gloucester, MA, this is a must see. It is a beautiful memorial to the "men who go down to the sea in ships" who have lost their lives out there.

Right in the town of Gloucester on the sidewalk by the ocean, in front of the beach. Engraved names on memorial in front of statue. This is a historic must see!!

We came to Gloucester just to see the memorial. It was our first time seeing it in person. It was very moving. Especially after reading the following words from the memorial plaque:
"These courageous men have been known by names other than fishermen. They were father, husband, brother, son. They were known as the finest kind. Their lives and their loss have touched our community in profound ways. We remain strengthened by their character, inspired by their courage and proud to call them Gloucestermen."
It's such a dangerous profession, and so many lives lost to the sea over the years. We were fortunate to meet the daughter of a fisherman whose name is engraved on the bronze wall plaque. She was visiting in remembrance of him.
The view from the memorial is so beautiful. The memorial itself is beautiful. Their lives and their loss have now touched more people around the world (outside this community). Don't miss seeing this when in Gloucester.

It is sad to think of all the fishermen through the years that have lost their lives to the sea. It's nice to see a memorial dedicated to remind us of them. Very sad and very moving.

A beautiful Monument-dedicated to the Fisherman of Gloucester. The Fisherman is looking out to the sea

We’ve been here before, once in the 70’s and then 15 years ago. A nice place to just sit and watch the boats go by. There are always a lot of visitors but we were able to easily find parking.

Overlooking the bay was beautiful as the small boats came in & out....lobster boats picking up their catches....walkers, runners, baby strollers, benches with onlookers or just quietly sitting reading. Then you notice all the names of fishermen that have perished over time. A dose of realism of how dangerous it can be when Mother Nature raises her fist. God bless them all.

Very humbling and moving experience. They're doing some work replacing the hand rails right now so there's a bit of construction going on but I'm sure it will only be better once it's completed.

I toured the statue on a class trip. The children enjoyed the statue. They had a list of objects to find on the boulevard. They also had a bag lunch from home to eat on the grass. They went for ice cream on Rodgers Street on the way back to school! The view of the harbor is beautiful, and there are boats going in and out of the Anisquam River ! The draw bridge goes up to let the boats go through, and the children loved watching the boats go through the entrance to the harbor. There is also a beach below the statue, that you can swim at. There is parking on the boulevard. Great place to spend a summer afternoon!

Wonderful, interesting and heartbreaking all at the same time. We come by here at least twice a year.

Beautiful Memorial. Interesting to see all of the names on the plaques. It really brings into perspective the number of people that have lost their lives on fishing vessels in this area. Humbling experience.

It has been 20 years since we were here, they have made a lot of changes since then, including the addition of all the names of those lost at sea. It was incredible.

We stopped by to take some photos of the harbor area. The memorial lists the names of the Gloucester fisherman who have tragically died at sea and explains a bit of the deadly fishing industry. It is worth a stop

The Fishermen's Memorial Monument was a beautiful statue to honor our fishermen. It was set in a small picturesque area of Gloucester, right on the water. It takes a short amount of time to visit this monument. There was plenty of parking on the street...make sure you use the crosswalks! You can walk up and down the water on the sidewalk. It’s a beauty that shouldn’t be missed in Gloucester.

On our trip up the coast to Rockport, we stopped to view the Fishermen's Memorial. The waterfront view was spectacular but the information surrounding the memorial was very informative and it was a nice stop over with benches facing the ocean to relax after taking pictures of ourselves in front of the statue.

This is a beautiful memorial to those who sail the seas. The memorial itself is a beautiful waterfront promenade which is lovely to walk. The statues are beautiful and the views are very nice.

You haven’t been to Gloucester unless you visit this memorial to those who lost their life to keep our ancestors fed and not to forget that it still happens. Respect to fishermen around the world.

This is a must see and appreciate! A wonderful commemoration and the perfect spot to sit and ponder. The list of names is quite moving.

Have seen this wonderfully poignant and powerful statue of The Fisherman or “Man at the Wheel” a few times now, it never loses its impact. Couple this with The Fisherman’s Wives Memorial depicting a wife and two children waiting for the safe return of their husband and father. You are amazed at the simplicity of each but the wallop of emotion you incur. Situated on the Waterfront is where these must be. Four stars out of five because of the difficulty finding parking.

Besides statue, there are plaques listing all the fishermen who have been lost at sea from early in our history to the present. Also on a lovely site.

Like most seafood lovers, I give little thought to what it can take to wrest a living from the ocean. But this awe-inspiring monument, with its long honor roll of centuries of commercial adventurers lost to Neptune's whim, will give you an extra degree of appreciation for that next serving of fish, scallops, or lobster. And the location is stunning in any season, overlooking the ever-roiling waters of beautiful Gloucester Harbor. There is a lot to see on Cape Ann, but do not miss this. It is sure to be a highlight.

Flower beds were gorgeous. Lift bridge to allow boats coming through fun to watch. Great photo op. Beautiful water view.

This is not an activity, but simply an iconic and beautiful statue and memorial to honor those who "went down to the sea in ships."
There is also a circular memorial wall with the vessel name, names of captaind and crew with the dates. Such a lovely way to honor these brave men.

Beautiful monument. Well made and in great spot. Every time I’m in Gloucester, I stop by to visit and take pictures.

Statue in town that honors the fishermen. Great to stop by and see. Oldest seafaring town in the US - lots of history.

If coming to Gloucester, this is a must see. The monument is beautiful and the whole monument was very moving. We took a walk around the whole park. It was beautiful. Stunning view of the harbor. So much history. Amazing

The Statue from Gloucester the fisherman's monument, was also used in the classic movie 'Captains Courageous' starring Spencer Tracey and Lionel Barrioor.
The film depicts the adventures of a small boy who falls off his father's ocean liner only to be fished out of the water by a small rowboat manned by Manuel a fisherman of the crew of a fishing vessel.
The rich spoilt boy is then taught morals and by the end of the film gains a useful hands on education about what it means to be ..human.

While enjoying the view along the waterfront we stumbled upon this Memorial. After reading the words, names, dates....you really begin to realize the sacrifices made by the members of this community profession. Very touching...

This statue is in honor to the fishermen who never made it home. These men risk their lives every time they go out. They’re several large plaques with the names of this crews which have perished starting from the 1700’s until present. What a way to honor those men and families. If in Gloucester, definitely worth a visit, it is in a beautiful park where one can walk and enjoy the sites.

Beautiful area to walk and enjoy the Gloucester Fisherman Monument. In the summer there are many gardens to enjoy. There are also benches so you can sit and enjoy the surf. Take the time to read the plaques.

When in Gloucester the Fisherman's Memorial is a must visit. Modeled after Captain Clayton Morrisey, a Gloucester fisherman who was once the Captain of the Effie M. Morrisey. There are benches that surround the sculpture so you can sit and enjoy the ocean views of Gloucester Harbor.

Cold, windy day but still a nice day to reflect on those lost at sea. The monument is located next to a busy street but there is plenty of walk space and paths to Stage Fort Park And Beach.

I grew up in Gloucester and this is still my first stop when I arrive in town. It is the heart of the city to me. I walk the boulevard everyday when I'm in town. It's a beautiful area and the people are friendly and dog friendly also. I travel with my dog so it's nice to be in an area so accustomed to everyone with a pet.

Beautiful seaside promenade and moving monument to the many individuals that lost their lives in this dangerous and arduous vocation. Seeing the names of families that were repeated numerous times was thought provoking.

The statue used to stand alone among rusting guardrails and bad grass on the Gloucester waterfront. That's all changed in the last couple of years--the Fisherman reminds you why Gloucester grew up and the beautiful landscaping makes tourists want to come to the city and walk the streets. There's LOTS to see, great food to eat, interesting people to meet. Hat's off to the community effort to improve the appearance of the Boulevard; the Man at the Wheel enjoys the upgraded surroundings!!!

We snapped a picture. We were on a family vacation and fans of the movie the Perfect Storm so on our to do list. Nice walk along the water. Decorated very patriotic for Memorial Day.Beautiful sight.

This famous statue represents what Gloucester's fishing industry.
It represents those who have given their lives for the fishing industry,
and we are very proud, anyone visiting Gloucester will surely see what it represents as soon as they visit and will surely take photos
for memories. Come to Gloucester and see much more!!!

Besides a picture opportunity, the location (towards the harbour) is fabulous and the history and names speak to the past. Make sure also to see the "Fisherman's Wife and children" statue further down the boulevard.

Looking over the names on this monument, there has to be around 20 McDonald's who lost their lives over the years in fishing accidents. Many other last names repeated in the same years and in multiple years. This memorial really highlights the tragic loss of life. A humbling experience with an ocean view that brings it all home.

Gloucester has so much to offer. Stop at this impressive memorial as you walk along the shore line of main street.

A moving tribute to all who have been lost at sea. Looking at the names and the year they were lost is incredible. So many.
This harbor has so much history it's a great place and time to reflect.

The monument facing the bay and the names of the lost fishermen on the plagues is simple yet very impactful!

I am sure being a fisherman throughout the years was not only something that supported the family but something you loved. I love fishing but at those risks....In 300 years the people of Gloucester lost over 5,300 lives to fishing. This is a monument on the boardwalk in their honor. All their names are listed in order by year.

The park lines the shoreline, the statue in the middle. Across the walkway was the names of over 5,000 that died at sea dating back about 200 years.

This part of the world is important for so many historical reasons besides being the beginnings of America. So many hard working fisherman have lost their lives in the pursuit of the fishing industry to feed us all. This statue is moving an tells the story of all the hard work and bravery

This is a must see if your in Glouster. It is set in a beautiful area near the ocean.Great for taking vacation pictures with this fisherman at his wheel. AWESOME area that's close to Main st shopping,Stage fort park, and the Hammond castle.

Nice monument which names all the men lost at sea since about 1600 or so to 1923. Over 5000 names listed by year, someone kept good records. You get to appreciate the risks of making a living from the Sea.

If I were you, to get a little historical (Hollywood style) prospective, watch the movie "Perfect Storm". Will increase your emotional experience.

This iconic statue was responsible for me first coming to Gloucester many many years ago and has me returning often.

Difficult to rate this kind of visit. It is the list of names at the memorial (5000 plus) which gives such an impression of life at sea. Several members of the same family being lost in the same incidents gives an insight into the tragic history.

Very moving to walk around and see the names. J was stunned how many there are. Some families clearly lost multiple men in single incidents. Visit the cape Ann museum for greater context on the memorial and the risks that came with fishing.

Such a beautiful tribute. Very beautiful clean waterfront statue and boulevard. This is my second visit and it felt like my first.

The walk along the waterfront was very clean and well kept! It was melancholy and moving going through the hundreds of names of men and women lost at sea...this is definitely a place to visit when in Massachusetts!

Beautiful Area! Definitely need to put into your daily walking plan! Nice benches to sit around and take in the beautiful water! Great people watching and dog petting location!

Visiting the Fishermen's Memorial Monument was our main reason for visiting Gloucester, MA. We walked the scenic walk along the ocean lined with flags until we reached the monument. Viewing the monument and reading the inscription for those lost at sea was chilling. We also sighted an anchor plaque opposite the monument with the words to "Let A Prayer Be Said" for the fishermen.

I had wanted to see this statue simply to be able to say that I saw it. This will date me but I remember this from an episode of Bewitched where Endora replaced the fisherman with Darren. I didn't know that there are thousands of names of local fisherman who were lost or died while fishing. I want to say it dated back to 1600 hundred and something but it may be 1700 hundreds. The names are all on 3 or 4 wide bronze colored metal plaques attached to the railings that overlook the water.

Beautiful monument in a lovely setting. Plaques across from the monument list names of sailors who have lost their lives in the Gloucester waters.

Yep, a must-do in this town!. It's location at the edge of the sea is a fitting place to be reminded of the many men who have lost their lives to it. Quite sobering and definitely worth the stop. Just be sure to take the time to read the plaque! We were there on a cold, windy, rainy day and we're still glad we took the time to visit.

Driving along the main street of the Gloucester waterfront is a must see when you visit this lovely town. Be sure to stop and really take a look at, and pay respects to, the impressive Fisherman Monument. At first it just seems like a statue of a big fisherman, but when you get close and read the inscription of the memorial plaque, you realize it is so much more. It is the memorial of the many fishermen that have lost their lives to a harsh sea simply trying to make a living. I think it is important to take a moment here and pay your respects and not just make it a photo op. It is a very pretty spot to do just that.

This monument is along the Gloucester Harbor Walk. There are areas with benches so that you can watch the boats

Beautiful view, sad for all the fishermen losses. Easy parking, it was off season, I hear in season its hard to park.

There are many monuments far more awesome in their size, but this more moderate sized one is very impressive for its message in remembering those fishermen who have gone down to sea while trying to provide for their families and others. It is located in a perfect spot overlooking the harbor area. It reminds us that that fishing is a very dangerous industry even today.

2023 marks the 400th anniversary of the founding of the city of Gloucester (1623), and the 100th anniversary of the dedication of the Fisherman’s Memorial Monument in 1923 on the city’s 300th anniversary. We are very pleased to have finally visited this historic city and this historic monument, and in this historic year. If you’re thinking of visiting, do it - you won’t regret it.

I'd never before seen this famous statue. Worth a visit in beautiful location. Very moving. The huge numbers of sailors lost in the 1800's is very surprising.

Amazing! Such a beautiful sire and memorial to those who lost their lives.
I've been there briefly many years ago but took my time to really enjoy it. My friend had never been to Gloucester so we toured around there and Rockport, breathtaking views. Thank you for being part of our day.

Once in Gloucester, viewing the memorial is a must. The weather was beautiful, making for a "Kodak momemt." Around the base of the statue the community had planted beautiful flowers, which popped in the pictures. The monument is a beautiful and memorable tribute to the sailors who braved their lives at sea.

Looking out to sea, along the bouelvard gazing out to Eastern Point is the poignant Fisherman's Memorial. It has too many names of Gloucester fisherman who lost their lives on he Grand Banks.

We really take for granted where our fresh seafood comes from and the men/women fisherpeople who haul it in. So many lives lost or impacted. Nice place to stroll, people watch or take in the views. We enjoyed our 4 day visit to the area. Good restaurants and friendly people.

Amazing how many folks perished at sea from this little town.
Statue is cool, name plaques are the wow.

After seeing the movie "The Perfect Storm", I wanted to see this memorial to the men from Gloucester that have been lost at sea. It was moving, and I really appreciated the statue of the seaman looking out to see. Don't miss it!! It is located on Eastern Blvd on the bay.

The historic fishing town of Gloucester dates back to 1623 and is arguably the most famous fishing port in the country. This monument was dedicated in 1925 and honors the fishermen who have lost their lives at sea and is a poignant reminder of the fragility of life. It is estimated that over 10,000 fishermen of Gloucester have died at sea. Between 1860 and 1906, 660 ships sank in the Atlantic. In 1879, 249 lives were lost in a single day. It is easy to stroll out to the monument if you are visiting the historic center of Gloucester.

Great views lots to see..nice bike path the whole way around the harbor. Many different monuments to see.

The view was breathtaking and the memorial was well cared for. Wasn't much for the kids to do, although there are quarter telescopic machines you can use to see the lighthouse and further out. Seeing the names of those lost at sea was somber but interesting. It was pretty crowded when we went on Sunday evening. There appeared to be some shops and dining nearby. Would visit again with adults, but probably not young kids

There are no word to describe the Helsman. It’s Gloucester, and the tribute to the sea fising industry of generations experiencing the loss of Gloucester’s brave men who faced the perils of the sea. Few Gloucester residents don’t know at least one fisherman lost at sea including myself. Stopping at this monument is a requirement along with the newest one honoring the wives and sweethearts of men lost at sea. If you are visiting Gloucester, stop here on the Boulivard to feel the presence of courage.

It's a true tribute to all of the fishermen who have lost their lives at sea working an extemely trying profession with difficult conditions. Each name is listed by year on a plaque in a serene setting honoring them.

Refreshing to see how well maintained this monument is. The American flags lining the boardwalk and the ocean are a beautiful experience. One should go there just to realize how many fishermen died at sea simply to make a living.

This is a great monument to all those fishermen who have perished whilst working on the fishing fleet. The monument is placed between the road and the beach and should not be missed. The plaques with the names of those that have perished are especially poignant.

Don't make it only about the statue. The whole walk around is beautiful. The view is spectacular. Give some thought to the reason for the statue.

I’ve seen this statue replicated so many times that it was nice to see it up close. The city has plaques listing the names of
all the fishermen who have been lost to the sea dating back to the beginning of Gloucester’s origin. There isn’t much to do in Gloucester so if you are tired of the beach it’s located on a nice boardwalk/ ocean setting- very relaxing.

Beautiful and well designed. Large and inspiring. Looks out toward the water. Reminds me of the Groton's fisherman on the frozen fish box.

The Fisherman's Memorial of a fisherman standing at the ship's wheel overlooks Gloucester Harbor and is a tribute to all the Gloucester fisherman lost at sea from the early 18th century to the present...over 5,300 fisherman (names are shown by the year they were lost) and over 1,000 ships. The Memorial is on walkway along the harbor where you can stroll along the beach. Just down the walkway a short distance from the Fisherman's Memorial is another statue, this of a woman and her young child looking out to sea, representing the wives of the fisherman... never knowing if her fisherman husband would ever return...reminds me of the Waving Lady in Savannah, GA who is also looking out to sea for her husband to return,

Visiting this monument was on my husband's bucket list - it honors the fisherman who lost their lives at see dating back to the 1600s out of Gloucester, MA. Definitely worth the visit.

The Fishermen's Memorial is actually a very moving monument. It is small, but fitting. Easy parking. The memorial lists the names of all fishermen killed over several hundred years. Well worth the visit, but it only takes ten minutes to see.

Located on Western Avenue along the Stacey Boulevard, A gorgeous walk way along the ocean. The monument is a tribute to the many fisherman who lost their lives at sea fishing. Also walk across the drawbridge to see the fisherman's wife's and children statue.

Great memorial to fisherman who’ve lost their lives at sea. It overlooks the harbor and links up with town sidewalk. Nice, quiet area to visit as you’re walking around Gloucester.

Although I was brought up on the sea coast of the UK have sailed and as a student worked on ferry boats I found this memorial to the loss of lives at sea to be very moving. The list of fishermen lost over the years from this town recorded on the monument plaques is shocking. As a memorial it is a timely reminder that nature can spring nasty surprises even with the technological support man now has to help him. A short visit is a must for those touring the town and the seaport. Takes about fifteen minutes only to see but it sticks in your mind nevertheless. The sculpture is a good symbol or expression of a man at the helm but the list of lost lives is greater.

This location is definitely worth a visit and commemorates the lives of those lost at sea. The statue is well done and located in the right place

A beautiful introduction to what Gloucester and Cape Ann are all about. And then walk over the Monument for the Wives, Widows and families of these brave Fishermen.

After lunch we made a quick stop at the memorial so the wife could get her 'perfect storm' memory validated... Not much here, but is informative and a fitting tribute to those lost at sea.

This is a pleasant stop along the waterfront in Gloucester. Most meaningful is the extensive list of names of those who have lost their lives at sea - I was stunned by the quantity of names!

The statue itself is nice but I found the plaques commemorating those lost at sea over the years to be very moving. A good reminder of the human price we pay for our food. Located along a beautiful stretch of harbor.

cool looking memorial statue but it was pouring rain when we visited, would certainly like to go back to visit this beautiful waterfront town

Definitely worth checking out if you’re in Gloucester. The area around the Memorial is beautiful and the tribute itself is impressive. We were glad that we went. It was also all decorated when we visited with The American Flag which was a nice touch!

This is a beautiful area and sad at the same time. Very well maintained and loving place didn't realize it goes back to the 1800's.

Impressive and poignent memorial. Good information on the plaque. Explains the history of the community and the huge number of fishermen who were lost at sea over the past two centuries.

Very informative. Well laid out and kept very tidy. Makes one stop and think about the power of nature

Love walking this boulevard with fisherman’s statue, fisherman’s wives statue, beautiful flowers in the spring through fall.

This memorial has been in its current location for decades, and is dedicated to the fishermen who never came home. Every year, several Gloucester fisher(wo)men are lost at sea. This monument is a testimony to the hard and very dangerous work these men and women do. It has sweeping views of the ocean, and just a few hundred yards awalys a monument to the families who lost a loved one at sea.

Beautiful gardens and great ocean and harbor views. Very much in walking distance from everything. Suggest parking here and touring as you wish.

Definitely stop by and pay respect to the meaning of the monument. Take a few pics, total time 30 min.

This is a beautiful memorial to those who lost their lives at sea. I got chills when I walked up. The community as a whole revolves around the sea, and this was worth seeing. Some had left flowers....it was just very touching.

The flowers were beautiful, very scenic bay. The monument to those lost at sea was very nice. They had flags lining the walk way when we were there. Great free attraction to help fill your day. Kids had a blast.

A touching monument dedicated to the sailors and fishermen who lost their lives at sea and never returned. It's a lovely walk along the shore in Gloucester, so it shows just how important the fishermen are to the community for it to be in such a prominent place. The plaques chronicling so many names spanning the years is quite poignant, with the bronze statue depicting a brave sailor at the helm of a ship which faces both the semi-circle of plaques on stones and the wide harbor view.

The Fisherman's Memorial area is quite nice and peaceful. You will definitely reflect on the loss that has occurred over the years with viewing all of the names of lost fishermen. The views of the waterfront are pretty spectacular from this area as well.

WE had to see this monument....it is shown in the movie perfect storm....most impressive memorial to the fishermen of Gloucester....Jim

I was so excited to be able to see this in person! I found 2 of my ancestors listed as having been lost at sea.

This is one of the iconic statues of not only Gloucester, but of Massachusetts and even in the USA. The eight-foot copper statue was created in 1925 by an English sculptor Leonard Craske. It became his most famous work.
The “Man at the Wheel” depicts a rugged seaman holding a ships wheel in a terrible storm. The statue commemorates the death of thousands of seamen over several centuries. For example, over 249 fishermen in 29 vessels died in 1879 alone. A list of many of these seamen is close by.
We did hear of a local controversy of how the fish company, Gordon, “borrowed” the figure of Gloucester Fisherman’s for their company’s logo. It does appear to be the same!
The Gloucester Fisherman’s Memorial is along the Harbor Walk. For most of the year, beautiful flowers decorate the area. Kudos to all the volunteers who tend to these gardens.
You may be lucky to get stopped waiting for a small boat going through Blynman Canal.
If you continue walking there is Stage Fort Park. There is huge sixty-foot rock over 200 feet long that provides excellent views of the harbor. This was a ritual stone used by Native Americans and later canons were set up by the colonists.
A local told me the area was used to dry fish back in the 17th century. There is an impressive plaque in the stone commemorating the 1623 Massachusetts Bay Colony for using diplomacy to avert a battle.
Walking back into town, we did stop at Cape Ann’s Brewing Pub. They have excellent clam chowder. If you decide to become a regular at the pub, you can hang your beer mug by the bar. You will actually earn a number for your mug!
If you found this review “helpful” in any way, please press “LIKE” to let me know.

Gloucester has it's iconic Fisherman's Memorial Monument set along the shore and it is a nice tribute to the many fishermen that lost their lives at sea.

It was raining with wind , which certainly helped with easy , close parking. I have seen so many pictures of this memorial and glad to have viewed in person . Lots of history in area.

Prominently displayed on Western avenue with a very long walking area; many park benches along the way;

The statue of a fisherman at the helm is very well done. It’s dedicated to all the fisherman who go out to sea for a living, some never returning. I believe it was dedicated after the men on the Andrea Gail were lost at Sea, a lovely tribute to the hardworking men in this field.

Many thanks to the people of Gloucester for building and maintaining such a stirring monument to the memories of the sailors who perished at sea.

Beautiful memorial. Nice walk overlooking the ocean. Little beach to swim, looks like kids were having fun.

Beautiful memorial that pays homage and honor to the fishermen of yesteryear. I would love to visit again.

Good history lesson!Sad stories about the losses suffered over the years! Nice walk around the North area of Gloucester and good view of the Harbor. If your Lucy you can see Wicked Tuna being filmed! We didn’t see it this year but have in the past!

great dedication to the lost fishermen and their wives
and families. Very well maintained flowers in the area are great

This outdoor memorial to the local fisherman lost at sea, stretches from the early 1700's to present day. The names are listed by year. The 19th century was a brutal time for the city, at the peak of prosperity, but the toll of lives was likewise vast. Come spend some time by the ocean and contemplate how cruel she can be, while at the same some, so lovely.

Stunning & Emotional memorial dedicated to the fishermen who lost their lives spanning from the beginning of Glouster to present. Nice plaque with each person's name and year they lost their life at sea.
Beautiful setting on the harbor lined with benches and flowers.

Not only is the statue a beautiful tribute but the Boulevard that it centers gives way to the splendid Atlantic ocean. Great people watching. All ages. Super nice walk that extends into Stage Fort Park.

Enjoy seeing this as it reminds me of my hometown which is a small town with a lot of fisherman and sponger divers.

The monument, and gardens and scenery are beautiful.
A quick visit but worth it. Parking all along the sidewalk of the memorial.

Beautiful monument. When you get here, if you've watched the movie The Perfect Storm with George Cloney, you will be like "hum, seems like I've been here before". The monument is all about the sad but true history of Gloucester fisherman.

While the Fishermen’s Memorial is probably the best known symbol of Gloucester, the poignant aspect is the set of plaques on the wall to its rear commemorating the over 5,000 fishermen from Gloucester who perished at sea. i
It is an extremely effective presentation. The memorial is set along the Western Avenue esplanade, a lovely and well-maintained community gathering place.

Nice Memorial - well worth the time to stop and visit -- large open area overlooking the sea. Grounds well kept

Right on the water and so sad to read all the names of the sailors that have died while at sea. The whole waterfront is just beautiful

Nice statue surrounded with names of fisherman lost at sea. You can park on the street and walk along the water decorated with American flags all along the waterway.

Today me and my boyfriend went to watch the 35th Mayors Cup Scooner Race and found ourselves walking around the Fishermans Memorial.
The whole area was not only a beautiful veiew of the harbor, but a reminder of those we lost. The walk there concists of beautiful flower boxes, laughing gulls sunging songs of the sea, the sound of the ocean, and of course the amazing veiew of the ocean itself.

Can not go to Gloucester without visiting this iconic memorial and paying respect to more than 5,000 fishermen lost to sea. You will never forget it. Well maintained, able to walk around it and view the panels of names. Peaceful and on the waterfront. No cost involved in visiting it.

A memorial to all the lives lost at sea from the area, set on the promenade facing out to from the harbour . Find time to spend a few minutes on your own thoughts ..

Great place to view the monument to lost sailors. We walked the entire length of the boulevard enjoying the sunshine and the great view! A bit of history, great water view and people watching too!

Beautiful park in Gloucester. Great views of the ocean. The fishermen memorial is humbling. Beautiful scenery of the coast.

This is why we came to Gloucester.
This is an iconic monuments to the sailors who risk their life on the sea.
It is an impressive statue looking over the harbor out to the fishing grounds

This memorial is very well done. Makes you stop and think about the risk people take. It is interesting to see has technology has changed, providing better boats, radar, information, ext. the deaths have dramatically decreased.

It is really a nice place to take a walk! You can see people fishing there as well! Not easy to park, but you will find a few small parking lot around that area!

Just south of downtown, on the main drag toward the park and Hammond Castle. Free parking right on the street. Easy to spot and easy to get to.

Of course we grew up with the gorton fisherman. Sobering wall of names of the lost. Over 5,000 since the 1700s. Many boats owned by families so loss of related members leaving widows and children. Nice walk along the water and extensive gardens. Park right on the road.

One of the most iconic monument and it was a oving place to visit and see so many names on the wall that were lost at the sea while fishing. great walk along the beach front where this statue is located.

Beautiful memorial to those lost at sea. There is a lovely walkway along the water where you can stroll and see this along with the Fisherman’s Wives and Children statue.

Just a quick visit at the statue. Not much else to see. Drive along route 127 was beautiful. Nice clean area.

Great walking along the harbor walkway. Locals are very friendly. Most always a breeze so jacket is best to carry along.

The weather forecast for Boston predicted hot and humid weather so we decided to go to the seaside.
Did our homework and decided on the hour long train trip to Gloucester.
Were we happy, what a discovery, especially for me. An old fashioned fishing village.
Home of the Wicked Tuna fishing series, and the port where the Andrea Gail left in A Perfect Storm, this is one of two major memorials to fishermen and their families in Gloucester

Its an icon. And it makes you think of how dangerous it was to make a living from the sea. There is a nice view of the harbor.
But you are on a busy street.

In the heart of Gloucester..a memorial to those that went down at sea...moving...you’ll stop every time your in town

as you walk down the shore line stop and see this monument!
You can’t miss it from the water or the street. It’s worth the stop to learn a bit more about the history.

This is a very humbling memorial, representing the lives lost at sea. There are plaques all around with the names of those who lost their lives. You can find them separated by year with the crew of the Andrea Gail on there in 1991! This is a statue by the ocean in Gloucester, no charge. You can walk by it and read all you want.

Nothing required here, but to park and walk up, but the statue is beautiful and reading all the names on the markers of the sailors lost to the sea over the years is truly moving. Especially seeing so many who were obviously family. A sobering reminder of what has been sacrificed (and continues to be) over the years.

The Gloucester Fishermans Memorial statue is a beautiful and fitting tribute to the brave fisherman and their contribution to history. As a sidenote in the 7th season of Bewitched Darren was turned into this statue 🧹🧙. Well worth the trip just to see this part of history.

Great views and a beautiful walking trail. Bring your camera because there is soo many options to take pictures

This memorial is extremely beautiful but so sad. The names of the hundreds of fishermen who lost there lives is very humbling but a must see in Gloucester.

This monument is on a nice boardwalk. Nice way to spend an afternoon reflecting over the water. Street parking was easy and convenient.

Very nice walk way, while you walk along the shore, and you can read all of the fishermen that had lost their livessel to the sea.
I thought it was very nice dedication , was very clean also.

You can feel the strength in this famous statue as he grips the wheel against a stormy sea. I'm always moved by the bronze plaques with hundreds of names of Gloucester's lost. A view of the harbor, fresh sea breeze and constantly squawking gulls complete the atmosphere. Don't miss this place!

Such a nice honor to those who lost their lives. Standing along the shores of the ocean. Cute little main street filled with nice shops and kind people.
Down a bit wives family memorial. If you go early easy to park...later in the safe gets difficult.

Memorial to all the fisherman lost at sea, including crew of the Andrea Gail that The Perfect Storm captured in book and movie.

Of course like many others, I came curious because of the movie "The Perfect Storm". Gloucester is a very colorful fisherman town. I loved it! The memorial done for the lost of fishermans lives and the families (wives and children) is one of the most heart felt memorial Ive been to. Makes you think twice on the meal you have every night and the many risks these men/women and families made for me to consume it.
Yes I found on the plaque the names of those men that movie that tickled my curiosity in 1991. May they all Rest in Peace. I loved this place

Went on our annual bike trip this year and rode up the east coast. Had to stop by The Fisherman's Memorial. It is beautiful and a must see if your in Gloucester. Just amazing and reading the names on the plaques will give you chills.

This is a wonderful reminder of how powerful Mother Nature can be, so many lost lives at sea, but a beautiful memorial to remember them by

nice area for waterfront walk. They have beautiful, well kept gardens. Sit and watch the boats on a park bench

This is a really nice tribute to those who have lost their lives at sea. The engraved names and years is really heart wrenching when you stop and think about it and what it must have been like for them and their families. It's a beautiful port and if you go on a sunny, clear day, the water is so blue and pictures come out really well. It was brutally cold when we were there and we probably would have spent more time if it wasn't so cold. The drive up is scenic and really worth seeing if you're riding along the coast.

This is a wonderful ocean park setting for family photos. This year the railings at the sea wall were being scraped and painted by a teen volunteer group - thank you for your wonderful work!

Interesting monument that lists the names of the fishermen lost at sea, one realizes the unknown and unrealized perils of being a fishermen. This monument is the backdrop to the boats and harbor. You'll visit Fishermen's Memorial as you walk at Gloucester Center.
I would be remiss not to mention that this statue takes me back (35 years) to the days of the program Bewitched. This statue was part of one of the episodes.

Enjoyed visit to the moment. Lovely area honoring those lost at sea. Interesting to see the names of so many people.

In memory of the fishermen. Good place to visit in a good weather. Nice view. Engraved are the fishermens who have died goinh to the sea.
Land of Wicked Tuna
Loved this little town very quaint and walkable. Lots of little shops in the Main Street. Terrific seafood offerings in most restaurants. Worth a visit if in area as lots of other spots not just the town. Can view the tuna boats from TV series Wicked Tuna. F.V. Tuna.com and Hard Merchandise all located at docks close to town when not out fishing.
