This park is great for history buffs and nature lovers alike. Wonderful beaches to explore and find loads of sharks teeth. Very tranquil and informative.

Very nice place to go with a camper and bikes and enjoy a couple os days. Sad dog is not allowed at beach and inside the fort. Take your family to the museum, it is great, living in the past going around it.

We went to Fernandina for Labor Day weekend. The Fort Clinch Park was a great place to relax and learn a bit of history. I have to confess I got more caught up with taking photos than learning. The park has more than the Fort to offer, so we will have to return at a later date. There are walking/biking trails, etc.

I can't say enough about the natural beauty, historical interest and family time awaiting you at Fort Clinch State Park. Built during the American Civil War, this fort was never finished, but was used through World War 2. It is unspoiled by velvet ropes and you can explore at your leisure. Take advantage of the uniformed "soldiers" who offer interesting facts and color commentary. Cannons, passages, spiral stairs make it an exciting adventure for the family. The architecture provides the perfect backdrop for amazing photos. (Keep an eye on your kids, as there are high walls and narrow stone steps.) The staff is happy to take a minute to show you the ongoing restoration and maintenance that they work on all year long! The beautiful sandy beach, littered with beautiful shells awaits just past the ramparts. Take a picnic and enjoy the sun and surf after your tour. There are also many nature trails through the lush forest, with palms, ponds and wildlife! (Take your bug spray-you'll need it in the woods.) We had the privilege of observing a nest of great horned owls--so kind of the mama to make her nest where visitors could admire her babies! Yes, there is a fee to enter the park ($6.00/car) and an additional fee ($2.50/person) for the fort. This destination is a great value, packed with nature, fun and learning for everyone!

Fort was interesting and informative, nostalgic. The state Park was a great place to ride bikes, shaded roads and not much traffic.

We enjoyed the walk around the fort as much as visiting the fortress. You can’t get inside the buildings but you can see through the windows the sparse way of living in those days.

Walked around the fort and realized how grateful I was to those who were prepared to protect our country even though they never saw action. Grateful !

Before going to Fort Clinch, we checked the tide schedule. From the visitor’s center, there is a two minute walk to a beach, where you can find shark teeth. We found several shark teeth around the shoreline, and then we went to check out the fort. My kids had a great time. We will definitely be back again. It is only $6 a carload to get in the park and then $2.50 per person to walk around the fort, so it’s very affordable and worth it. The staff was also very friendly and very helpful.

Beautiful drive in. $6 entrance fee worth it. If looking for shark teeth this is the place to go. Great place to bike or hike.

Beautiful park. Wonderful place to enjoy nature. The fort is interesting and provides a great opportunity to learn about history.

so the fort is very cool and nice to learn some history on vacation. And the beaches are booming with sharkteeth I didn't see a lot of good shells but I went mid day so I would suggest going during low tide. They do even have camping there

Fort Clinch was a really great experience! My husband and I spent a drizzly Sunday morning walking through the fort - we didn't even mind getting wet to see it all. The fort is well preserved and maintained. There's a museum and gift shop on site, as well as tours available. The history of the fort is very interesting - it was fascinating to see a brick fort and learning how it was built and over many years. Rooms inside are set up as they were during the time periods it was inhabited.
The road to the fort is well-maintained - beautiful, mossed draped oaks cover the roadways. There's biking and walking trails, as well as camp sites for tents, RVs, etc. Beach access and photo stops too. Several bathrooms available - including at the beach. It's a must-see stop!

Awesome. Visited with small kids - the fort is so hands on - great place to spend time. Also great beach and birdwatching. 5 stars

Great place to check out when visiting Amelia Beach!
Park rangers were so welcoming, and beach was fun for shell and shark teeth - hunting. Fun family adventure!!

Must visit while you’re here. The drive to the fort is beautiful. We walked the beach and looked for sharks teeth. We found one. It was so pretty!

Absolutely well maintained historic site. Arrived during a weekend re-enactment and it was great. The actors were great, informative. I got to watch the cannons shot over the bay and it was an incredible experience.

Such an amazing piece of history. Well maintained lots of little facts located around the fort great for self exploration. Wonderful walking trails outside the fort and around the beach area. The fort is well maintained. The beach is usually quite and peaceful a great place to find sharks teeth just walking along the shore. The family and I look forward to returning for the history and beach-time fun.

The old fort has been lovingly preserved and restored. A great adventure unfolds for adults and kids alike! Park has beautiful drive, trails, picnic spots, benches and waterfront access-
all win wins in my book!

What a beautiful state park….i did bike in there from hotel 5 years ago…but this year, drove a car in. The fort at the end of the road is amazingly interesting … even tho this was my 2nd time there. Stopped near the entrance to find the owls nesting…but didn’t spot.

United States history comes alive with visit to Fort Clinch. One gets the feel of a great conflict that was part of our history. The cannons are amazing. The fort is in excellent condition. The rooms reveal what soldiers experienced during the Civil War.

Lovely for camping , hiking and biking. $5 to enter the fort and at the time we were there the film was not working. Pretty drive to the fort.

Not being a Florida Native, I was not familiar with Fort Clinch. Beautiful views and interesting history. Recommended.

Entry fee worth every penny. This is the best beach I've ever been to. Totally unblocked with beautiful vista. If you are a nature lover, you will love the sea birds that gather and tide pools with sea life

This park surrounds you with beauty and serenity the minute you enter! Wonderful canopy covered roads to ride your bike and many places to hike, walk and camp. The beach offers spectacular views of the ocean and the jetty adds its own beauty. The fort is also a wonderful way to spend a few hours. Lots to explore in this park. Definitely recommend visiting when you're in the area!!

We did not have time to see it all but we loved our experience in the state park. We gotta come back.

This state park includes several attractions. We visited the beach, and this was a lot of fun. It is a nice beach. The fort is pretty good. It is in fairly good condition, and there are some good views. Signage could be better, but there is information available on-line, and a video available at the site. There were 2 people on site in Union uniforms to answer questions. Overall, worth a visit.

Cute little park with lots of trails We were able t o see the lighthouse from a viewing area across the marsh. Didn’t really wander much ( kinda scared of gators). Walked out behind the Fort to a nice beach.

We never even knew this was in Florida, so glad we visited. A lot of preserved history and military fort right on the beach. All kinds of places to explore walk around, take pictures. You can imagine all the barracks and how the soldiers lived when they were housed here. You can look thru all the open windows but not go in the actual housing areas but still can see every thing fine. Also can go on the top to see the ocean view and cannons with stairs or a large ramp. Very cheap admission and definitely worth it. They provide regular camper camping with hookups in the park and primitive camping as well, with bath houses showers etc. plenty of parking and walkways out to the beach. So nice. Would love to come back and camp later, will visit again for sure.

We love Ft. Clinch state park. It’s the 2nd time we’ve been here so we just went to the beaches this time. Great history and great beaches!

We enjoyed visiting this state park. It was cool to see and lean a little Civil War history. It was $6 to drive in the park and $2.50 entry to actually walk to the Ft.

The tour was self guided, however I was able to see inside all the buildings. The hallways to the corner battlement areas were a little spooky but once you got to the room you could see the canons. This fort has canons and furnishing to see.

After exploring the park, one can walk on the beautiful beach with lots of shells and hopefully, sharks teeth. Clean restrooms. We got some of our best photos of the dreamy Spanish moss tunnel of trees as you drive into or out of the park.

The fort is very interesting and well worth the $2.50 entry. It was a self-guided tour. Be sure to go up top for nice views. We also did a hike which was very pleasant. Mostly in the shade and very enjoyable. Heard lots of birds to accompany us!

Visited weekday afternoon. $6 entrance fee per vehicle to get in park. If you want to visit the fort it’s another $2.50 per person so family of 4 can expect to pay $16
Didn’t see the extra fee posted anywhere until we got out at the fort.

This State Park is FULL of history. You're able to walk around the campus of this Fort and enter some of the buildings. Some you have to view through windows. It is a self-guided tour. This fort sits right on the beach and has spectacular views and plenty of photo ops. You enter through the gift shop and return through it as well. You can also access the beach close to the gift shop and take a chance to find real shark teeth!! It was quite cool the day we visited so our trek to the beach was short and NO teeth. Check on line for more information about this FL State Park.

Like the canopy on drive in. Always see alligators at the pond. It's like a jungle. Love the Fort, although the docents are usually know-it-alls. :)

We didn’t spend a whole lot of time exploring the park and probably should have. Went to the Fort which was quite nice! Go spend the day hiking and exploring

Super park.
Went to the fort very nice. The period interpreter was great answering questions and explaining the area and the times.
The rest of the park looked great. Lots of hiking and bike trails. Drove thru the camp sites and Wow. Hookups and nicely separated and lots of trees.
Yes good for at least a day.

if you like history this is the place. not as old as the fort in st. augustine but still nice. well maintained and staffed.

I primarily went to visit the fort. The park however is gorgeous, with trails and camping .The fort is nice for history buffs. A coastal defence fort overlooking the sound.Island

On our trip to Amelia Island we had not planned on visiting Fort Clinch State Park but our first full day was cooler and very windy so we skipped the beach and came here. There is a $6 fee per car to enter the park and $2.50 fee for each person if you also want to visit the fort. We enjoyed walking around the fort and the views of the beach and Cumberland Island across the waterway. The architecture that went into building these forts is very interesting and it has been well maintained. It was a pleasant way to spend time when the beach wasn’t a great option.

if you are a camper this is a good place to bring a camper for a few days and visit the area, good walking paths and campsites, old fort accessible to tour for a price, jetties are accessible by boardwalk, good place to fish and look for shells

Today my daughter, grandson and I visited Amelia Beach at Fort Clinch Park. The drive through the park was breathtaking. The road was shaded by large oak trees with hanging Spanish moss. Amelia Beach was beautiful!!! I love to collect sea shells 🐚. There were large sea shells and several live sand dollars on the beach. I definitely will revisit this beach.

"Soldiers " at the fort provided a lot of historical information. Simple but interesting costal fort which is typical of fortifications during the civil war.

Great place to take kids who need to run (little ones) and those who are curious about American history (age 9+). We never saw the soldiers in uniform, which would have made the experience fuller.

We were lucky to go on the first weekend of May when there were reenactment people on site telling stories of the fort. The buildings were not open but you could easily see inside all. The view on the top of the fort is beautiful. That there was never a battle there the fort remains in the form it was from the beginning. Beautiful brick work.

This park is beautiful and was fun to visit. The cost was $6 per car. It has a lot more than just the fort. There are beaches, beautiful Spanish moss hanging trees, a view of the lighthouse and wildlife. We saw a few birds and even a deer!

We stopped at the Fort on our way out of town. So glad we did. A definite visit if you are in the area.

Incredible park and campsite and the bonus is being able to see Cumberland Island from the shoreline. Great facility and 5 star campgrounds.

Beautiful spanish moss trails leading to the fort or beach. Clean restrooms and plenty of parking. We went twice to explore more.

Beautiful scenic road from park entrance to the fort on the north end. Great information and visit inside the fort itself. Several miles of paved biking and up paved (mountain biking) trails. Friendly staff at the entrance and visitor center,

A walk through history where you'll learn more than you expect. Great family outing and very close to everything!

Best 2 day trip we've ever done in Florida past 30 years!! Go to Florida State Parks website to see all there is to do at Ft. Clinch State Park.

The construction going on next to this place is mind numbing. Such bad activities should be stopped!

This is a great place to lose yourself in the beauty of nature. From driving down the tree canopied road to hiking trails, checking out the overlooks, exploring the fort and hunting shark teeth, there’s something for everyone. They do offer camping, swimming and biking in the park as well but we didn’t do those activities so can’t speak to that. Highly recommend taking a day to explore this beautiful park.

We almost skipped Fort Clinch State Park because it was raining but we were so glad we didn't. We had a great time exploring the fort and walking around the grounds. The drive to the fort is beautiful and there are some great hidden lookouts over the marsh.

This is absolutely amazing! Beautiful views of the ocean and the fort is awesome to walk through some history! I would love to come camping here!

We did not visit the fort itself but the surrounding beach and grounds are absolutely gorgeous. It’s worth a visit even if you aren’t the type that usually visits civil war forts! It was only $6 per car to enter and totally worth it to spend the day there! The beach is also where we had the best luck finding sharks teeth.

Enjoyed the visit to the fort and the views from the top of the fort. Very reasonable enterance fee. Worth the visit.

Great historical context, beautiful scenery, and friendly people. Also part of a great park for walking and relaxing.

We visited Fort Clinch solely to visit the beach, at the suggestion of another couple at the B&B we stayed at. The drive into the park is gorgeous, as you travel through an oak canopy with palm scrub; as a lifelong Southerner, I never tire of that scenery. We made a quick stop at the north end of the park, to look for shark's teeth. We found a couple, then moved on to the beach. The beach area has a large parking lot, clean restroom facilities (possible indoor showers?), and an outdoor shower area. The beach wasn't too crowded, and we were easily able to find a close location to set up our umbrella and chairs. We spent several hours there, and it never got crowded. We even found another shark's tooth while digging the hole for our umbrella! I would definitely visit the beach here again in any future visits to the island. Peaceful, beautiful, and facilities are always an added bonus.

such interesting architecture on the fort! and the park itself is a beaut. the "soldier" that hangs around there for character flair was a hoot. i love that they stay in character.
even just the drive through the park was very pretty.

Parking pass is required (we paid online $6 and just showed the gate attendants. Fort admission is $2.50 per person.
So very much to do here for all ages. My 16yr olds were not bored for one second. The museum is only two rooms but packed with info. The fort was a great exploration venue.

Great fort to see. Will go back another time to see the trails that they had everywhere. Great history for those that like that stuff.

There is so much history at this place. It was very interesting and fun from the very beginning to the end. I think more volunteers/workers to interact with would be a great add on to this place.

We really enjoy going to Fort Clinch, seeing the views, learning the history, and being in a place our ancestors were. Learn so much each time we go.

Beautiful place. Nature lover place to go. History and nature all in one,l. Great place to visit with family or friends.

We try to incorporate fishing into our couples trips. Thought we would try out Fort Clinch. Even though the fishing wasn’t promising the view and the location is fantastic. It is absolutely beautiful.

Road our bikes around today and it was awesome. We stayed on the road but there are lots of mountain bike trails as well. Some nice campsites available as well as beach area although most of it is posted no swimming due to strong currents. We did not actually go into the Fort as we have been to two similar forts in the last two weeks. $6 dollars for a family to enter park which does not include access to the Fort.

Drove to the beach for a long walk and walked into the Fort area. Cost is $2.50 to enter which is more than reasonable. Since they accepted Apple Pay I could due my watch as we didn't carry any wallets, Very interesting place and worth spending an hour.

Learned a great deal and the re enact or was very knowledgeable . Easy walk around and lovely views.

Never had any knowledge of this Fort before planning this trip but glad I found out about it. The drive into the fort with the oak trees and hanging moss canopy was pretty. The fort itself was very interesting and right on the water.

As an attraction close to our hotel, we are glad we chose to go there. A lot of history at the Fort. It takes at least 2 hours to go through. You can get a lot of food pictures of the ocean from the walls of the Fort. Well worth the time and minimal charge to go through.

Friendly and knowledgeable Staff, Great trails. Great wide beaches where you can find shark teeth! The Fort can be visited as well if you are interested in history! I Highly recommend!

Visited Fort Clinch early last week and enjoyed a great day at the park. The Fort itself is a “must see”, especially for “history buffs”. After visiting the Fort, our family spent time at the beach where the girls enjoyed some beach-combing while the boys caught a few fish for dinner. At the end of the day we rode some of the safe and ample bicycle trails and I must admit that one day wasn’t enough to see it all.

Touring the fort and combing the beach finding sharks teeth. Nice hiking trails and beautiful canopy drive through the park. We went two days in a row.

Had this on my list a while, mostly because I’m interested in coastal fortifications. This park definitely has that, and some other great stuff I was unaware of. It’s $5 per car to get in and the ranger provided a map of the park. It’s a short 10 min drive to the fort on a road that feels like you’re driving through Jurassic park! Plenty of trails and lookouts along the way, as well as bike paths so beware of bikers. The fort entry is another $2.50 per person. It overlooks the water and you can also walk to the beach from the fort. It is a very well preserved brick fortification with great views of the water and Cumberland Island. There was even a period re-enactor on hand to answer questions. I was mainly there for the Fort, but camping here looks like it would be fun, and Fernandina Beach is very accessible. Worth a day trip!

We loved visiting the fort and the beach. It was a wheelchair friendly walk, and we could cool off in the visitors center where they sell drinks and snacks. Also, caught a glimpse of the lighthouse from Egan’s Creek overlook.

Cool tunnels, views of Atlantic, cannons, historical artifacts, walks, Beach, Re-enactments 1st Saturday of the Month with horses, uniformed actors etc.

The little thankfully air conditioned history museum before entering the fort was a great way to understand the fort and its history. The fort itself has many rooms appearing as they would have when in use. The views from the walls are also worth the visit.

There truly is not much to see at the fort. More signage and descriptions would be helpful. The grounds in and around the fort were unkempt; could look a lot better with some care.

Well kept state park. Drive from the ranger station to the fort is gorgeous. Camping available. Biking and hiking options. Dogs allowed but not on beaches. We cane for a couple of hours during low tide to find shark teeth. Not too many, but if you are patient you will find some.

Beautiful park, the fort is well preserved with gorgeous views. the drive into the park is spectacular with the canopy of trees.

We enjoyed visiting Ft Clinch State Park and seeing the fort. There is a Separate admission for both.

Due to covid restrictions, we couldn't get a tour inside the buildings but there were certain windows that were open so you could see inside.

Beautiful peaceful fort and park to wander around. The fort is well maintained and has guides available for information. Really lovely to walk around the walls looking out to sea and the boats sailing past. Beautiful trees overhanging the road as you drive in. And so so quiet - great place to get away from the world for a while.

Absolutely stunning. Well worth the visit. The drive in was beautiful, fort was well maintained and reasonably priced to enter. Next time we’re in town it would be a perfect place to bicycle into instead of drive.

Well done and preserved by Florida State Parks. History and staff were really friendly. Additional fee to see the fort but very reasonably priced. A must see.

nice road in, wheelchair can get into the gift shop, the bathrooms, and the fort. There is an outdoor eating area a wheelchair can also get into.

This park offers a long beachfront with clean restrooms, outdoor showers and nice walkways. Nature trails abound along with a fort. Great for bikers too.

Beautiful park with a historic fort and a park employee to answer all your question at the site. Nice, easy, and shaded walk to the fort.

We really enjoyed walking around this fort and reading about its history. Great exercise and a very scenic location.

Enjoyed our visit to Fort Clinch park. The fort is a neat little bit of history and it was very cool to take a step back in time and experience the detail of the construction from the 1800s. Be sure to walk along the beach surrounding the fort and see if you can find a shark’s tooth!

The beach was calm, perfect for small kids, no large waves. Small pools surround the jetty, perfect for exploring and finding hermit crabs and other sea creatures

Great views from the top. Explore and find the tunnels and stairs that get you the great views of the water. Great history background and they even have guides that can help answer any questions.

We went because we were exploring Amelia Island by car on a rainy day when staying at a local resort. We saw the fort was there, and gave it a chance. It wasn't expensive to visit ($6 car & $2.50/person) to visit the fort. It was a well-preserved fort and was interesting to visit, but I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to see it. There isn't much else to do on the island, except shopping in the historical area of Fernandina Beach, so no harm in going there.

This is one of the best military forts I have been to. The stairs were daunting when climbing down and I could not imagine how other soldiers could pass each other during a siege. The canons were awesome to see up close and you can see bullet shrapnel on the brick walls.

I don't think that I could isolate 1 thing at Ft. Clinch. I've loved biking there and getting a chance to cover more territory quickly and see so many things there, including more armadillos than I could count! Searching for shark's teeth and picking up some great shells. Seeing the inside of the fort after seeing it from the water was a very different perspective. So take some time, wander thru, bike thru and camp if you can...

We RV'd at Fort Clinch on multiple occasions and felt it was one of the best camping
experiences we had especially on the river side versus ocean side. The beautiful tree canopy is the highlight of the experience making for cooler temps, great biking and peaceful walking trails. The close proximity to the cute town of Fernandina Beach and the rest of Amelia Island and the beaches only increased the experience.

The view of the sound and Cumberland Island from the Fort was beautiful.
We hiked some trails and saw wildlife including 2 alligators.
The trees were gorgeous, especially live oaks.

Biking & Hiking trails were in the woods but you could also relax on the beach. Very secluded and quiet.

Over 5 miles of hiking and biking trails that run parallel to the main road and a few side hikes. The fort is really a great way to experience some old Florida history up close and personal. They have done a great job restoring and maintaining the whole park.

Great fort to explore. Many of the exhibits have been presented as if it were 1864 with "reanactors" playing the part. After your done, go explore the beach and look for shark teeth. Kids will love doing that!

What a wonderful piece of history. We went specifically to spend time walking around the fort. There was so much more to see, we could've spent the whole day in the park! I love the beauty of the old buildings and the feeling of standing where soldiers once stood. There were people available to answer any questions and to tell us about the history. I would definitely go back! Worth spending at least an hour or so in the fort.

Never heard of this fort before this trip, interesting historical information and a great overall structure. Period dressed volunteers can answer questions.

This is a great park! I’ve been to State & Federal Historical Parks ranging from Key West Fl. To Gettysburg, PA. This has got to be the best presented park! Very pretty and the staff was great! Throw in a swimming beach & a non swimming beach where you can look for sharks teeth, and you have a great afternoon! It’s a short bike ride from down town historic Fernandina Beach.

Fort Clinch is in a beautiful setting. There’s a mix of things to do outside the fort of walking, biking, beaches-one for swimming and others for fishing and shell/shark teeth hunting. Our first visit luckily coincided with a WW11 event with reenactors living as though stationed oversees at key times. They were incredibly knowledgeable and had lots of interesting historical artifacts. Our second visit was the first weekend of the month where reenactors are there as though living in the fort. Without the reenactors the fort is interesting but the only info you get is via the museum before you enter. Other than that you can walk and go in open rooms or look through the open windows of closed rooms but there’s no info. Would be great if there were signs with info about what you were looking at. Outside the fort there are multiple walking trails through the woods. And of course the beaches. One has swimming - the others not because of strong currents. Lots of people fishing and looking for shark teeth. (We found 3). The gift shop is nice with some snack (Ice cream and sweets mostly) and I think drink options and 3 small tables for eating. It’s a nice mix for us of nature and history!

An idyllic setting for those who want to hike or ride bikes on forest trails, relax on the beach, or see an old fort.
The state park offers camping facilities.

We toured the fort several years ago, so decided to walk the trails this time. They are densely wooded and the pond areas come with the usual alligator warnings. Very nice for a nature walk, though, and the fort shouldn't be missed when you visit Amelia Island.

We just spent the afternoon at Fort Clinch and loved it. The fort is restored and maintained beautifully. There wasn't a tour while we were there but we found a park ranger that answered all our questions and so much more. We've been to alot of forts but this one was special.

This is a great stop if you are on the island. It is clean, well kept and you have access to a number of buildings within the fort. The views from the top are great and it is inexpensive. It was one of the minor forts of its time and one of the best to visit.

Has very beautiful nature reserves and a spectacular fort. Would love to come back to camp here for the weekend.

Nice park. Loved driving through the live oaks, palm trees, and Spanish Moss. The weather was beautiful. We enjoyed the drive, hiking around the fort and viewing the small museum. The fort is not large and it was easy to walk around and view the water as well as the restored buildings. You need to take care walking around as there are no railings for the stairs and some of the surfaces are uneven. Just be careful.
There appeared to be lots of hiking trails and shelling along the water but we did not take part in these activiites.

I thought we should see Fort Clinch on our Amelia Island vacation because it seems sort of iconic to the island... It was just okay. I'm not big into history, hubby is, but there wasn't a TON to see in the historic fort. Very inexpensive self-guided tour. The park itself is huge; after you drive in through the main entrance it is another 10+minute drive to the Fort and gift shop. The BEACH on the east side is worth spending time on; we did find a shark tooth and more whole shells than other main-island beaches, but still mostly just the single variety of cockle shells prevalent here. The "Bird Pavilion" is really just a small hut with bird feeders around it. We only saw cardinals, catbirds, and crows (in May).
It does look like there are quite a few biking and hiking trails within the park, as well as areas for camping.

excellent park with a lot of bicycles and hiking trails. Fort Clinch is a great self guided tour with guides there dressed in uniforms from the civil war to answer questions.

Visited here while staying on Amelia Island for a couple days. Staff were very friendly and helpful, two were in uniform doing a re-enactment with a civil war-era rifle. Great video in the museum gave a helpful overview. The fort was in good repair, and workers were seen updating/maintaining the structure. This was a worthwhile stop. And we didn't even take advantage of the hiking/biking trails and camping areas, which were also available, as well as the beach.

Grab your bike! This landmark provides plenty of great riding. Be prepared to spend hours looking for shark's teeth and shells.
One day we'll actually visit the fort!

Ft Clinch is in really great shape and larger than what we thought. Rooms have been left intact. Then we went to the beach, just a short walk, and found a few sharks teeth.

5 stars if you go for this sort of thing.Really well done and impressive, informative museum and displays are well done.Really enjoyed the beach and ocean views too.

We went to the beach at Fort Clinch twice during our vacation. The beach was easily accessible and was not crowded. There is ample parking and the restroom facilities were clean. If you enjoy looking at sea shells, this is the place to go. Shells are constantly washing up on the beach.
We visited the fort and it is amazing! It is well worth the $2.50 entry fee. There is so much to see and there is a "soldier" available to answer any questions you may have.
We also took a short hike on the Magnolia Trail. It was an easy trail to hike, but there were a lot of spider webs across the trail and we also saw a snake in a bush right next to the trail, so we cut our hike short. I don't like snakes!!

Make sure to wear some deet/Off. We got a few chiggers when we were looking for alligators.
Saw lots of wildlife and really enjoyed the drive into the park and the history of the fort.

Wow! What a great place to visit! So fun to explore on your own, like we did...or make it more of a reenactment type tour of you like that kind of thing. Very neat place if you enjoy history.

The ride to the fort and the site itself are wonderful. It is a great piece of history. Bring a picnic and spend some time or camp there..

Spent the morning exploring the fort and hiking the Willow Pond Loop trial. Lovely place to visit. Fort is quite interesting and in pristine condition, trail was beautiful.

This place was fantastic. I loved the museum with so much history to learn about and the thorough illustration of what life was like when the fort was active. After the museum we walked up to the fort and walked around, checked out the weapons and artillery, the barracks looking unchanged from the 1800s, the many different rooms and areas of the fort (kitchens, outdoor cooking fire, "toilets," etc.) - so cool! I absolutely loved this place and recommend it for any history buff.

First time here this April. It was lovely and the staff were great at giving us all of the details about the fort and the area.

This place is an interesting historic place to visit. You can explore on your own and there are guides around If you have questions. More interpretative signs would have been useful at the different buildings.

My family and I recently visited Fort Clinch State Park in Fernandina. The visit was the first time since I was a young teen and the first ever for my wife and two young girls. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there, taking about 2.5 hours to walk around the grounds, check out many of the rooms and buildings on site and briefing through the museum. The museum is quite small and limited, but it does have some interesting artifacts on display. There were historically dressed actors on the property giving oral historical accounts and even some cannon shots fired. On our way out of the park we took the road down to the carpark and beach. This was the first time I had ever visited the beach portion and all my life I've heard about the fishing pier located there. However, it is no longer at the park, but the boardwalk and bath houses were very nice. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our time there and recommend for anyone to visit that would like to see a Northern fortification built in the deep south. The story behind it and the history is very neat, even for a Southerner like myself.

We are staying at Fort Clinch State Park for four days. Lots to do and see here in St. Augustine a town full of history. This park is clean with secluded camp sites and has a great beech. I read that it is tight in here, but I had no problem with my 36-foot motorhome. If you are a camper this is another one of Florida’s excellent state parks to stop at. We are on a mission to visit every State Park in Florida.

We had a great day at Ft. Clinch. We had no idea of the interesting history of Northeastern Florida. There were several things to do, bike ride, admire the lush greenery, picnic, beach, tour the original fort. Nice day.

We tent camped at the beach campground. Other reviews are right that there is no shade for the tent campsites. Imagine camping in the desert- there are even lots of cactuses around! Not a problem for the winter, though if I went back I would probably pick the river campground. If you love the beach though, this side would be best.
The bathrooms were so nice and clean- nicer than a lot of hotels honestly-just let the shower run a bit to get hot water in winter. The camping was very nice and quiet- it was silent at sundown. We had our dogs with us, which limited some of the places we could go, but since it was winter we could leave them in our car a bit for exploring. Watch out for burrs alongside the trails!
The fort itself was very cool and expansive, with great views and historical touches. The beaches were carpeted with shells (don't go barefoot) and the rangers were helpful in telling us where to look for shark's teeth. My sons had fun fishing near the river (the "fishing pier" on the map on the ocean side is just a dangerous jumble of boulders). I had a great time birding, and my family only scratched the surface of all the hikes we could do. The town of Fernandina Beach is very close and has lots of great restaurants and activities, too. We only stayed for two days, but could have occupied ourselves for much longer!

We came here to bike and spend some time on the beach. All there is to bike on is the narrow road with no shoulder and traffic going by, and paths that are suitable for mountain bikes. The road going into the park is so incredibly beautiful with the hanging moss - so sad that they did not put a bike path in next to the road. Would be so great and WAY more safe. We saw families with little kids riding on the road and it was totally dangerous. The beach is big and beautiful and there are loads of colorful shells. The walk to the beach is pretty long so if you have a family with lots of gear, you will want some kind of gear carrier that rolls!
If they put in a paved bike trail (or gravel trail) from the main entrance to the beach it would be spectacular and make the park so much more usable.

Really nice roads very shady and seem to have quite the off road trail. Very pretty inlet views as well.

This is one of the coolest state parks to go to in Florida. The grounds are well maintained and well preserved. When we went, it was one of the weekends that they had actors there that were in period costumes. Each one of the actors there knew their roles very well and knew the historical significance of the character that they were portraying. I would highly recommend taking a few hours to visit this park.

We went to the fort one morning and spent a few hours here. We paid the extra money to go into the fort. There are beautiful views from the top of the fort. We then went down a dirt road to an area to walk on the beach looking for shark teeth. We didn't find teeth, but left with a lot of shells. It was inexpensive and a pretty place.

Self guided. Small fort that was never completed. A bit underwhelming but nice views and interesting for an hour or so.

The drive to the fort was beautiful. We walked around the fort before entering. Well marked & very interactive. My guys climbed all over & I think the 3 of us covered almost every inch!

If you are in the region, it is a low-cost experience you should check out if you enjoy hiking, bike trails, history, and lush greenery!

Fort Clinch State Park is one of our favorite places to visit! It was too cold to go in the water, but it was lovely to walk along the shoreline. We enjoyed photographing the birds, picking up shells and admiring the view. Although we did not visit the fort this time, it is definitely worth a visit.

Visited Fort Clinch State Park three times!!! Found numerous shells on the beach. The restored Fort is awesome.

I highly recommend visiting Fort Clinch. For a small price it is a really fun activity. We went in the morning and toured the Fort. You can reenter so we decided to go get lunch and then come back and check out the beach access. There were very few people and it made for a great peaceful afternoon on the beach.

Great museum. We returned to the beach every day. It is a very well maintained park. Enjoyed walking the beach with no views of high rises. So well preserved. Great job.

Enjoyable time spent here, even though it was raining in biblical proportions! My husband purchased a rain poncho from the shop (wish I had, I quickly learned my Mac is not waterproof). Interesting video before you enter the fort itself and various bits and bobs including a Gatling gun, looks ferocious. Came upon a couple of staff members who were keen to tell us a few facts. We went to the nearby beach in hope of finding some shark teeth but no joy. Even though we got absolutely soaked we really enjoyed the fort and the lovely road to it, with Spanish moss, it feels very southern gothic the approach to the fort. It’s so cheap to get in, if this were in UK it would be at least 4x the price. Very worthwhile visit.

We went not long after a storm, so shelling was REALLY great! However, in my opinion, shelling IS better at Fort Clinch than other parts of the beach. We also lucked out that day and caught a sun coming back in from patrol! Very cool! Sharks teeth are easy to find—sometimes prolific, sometimes not. Olive shells are almost always found. Love visiting!!

My dog Foxxe and I walked into Fort Clinch State Park on a hot October day. We entered one of the many trails and enjoyed the shade the live oaks provide, walking on sandy paths alongside saw palmettos, hollies and ferns. It felt like a journey into Florida's prehistoric past. When we came out of the long trail and back onto the main park road, the sun was beating down on us, and I managed to flag down a volunteer driving by in a golf cart, and she offered water to Foxxe. We'll be back, and next time I will bring water, but it was so nice to know that the park volunteers are around if you need them.

Nice changing facility and an excellent shower on the boardwalk. Bonus of seeing armadillos and deer!

I am the last person to visit a fort, especially one that was never used to defend anything. BUT this was a really awesome experience. The grounds were beautiful as is the park. You could walk all around and in the buildings which were very interesting. We hiked to park trail also and packed a lunch. What a wonderful 3 hours experience. You can stay as long as you want. The drive into the fort is beautiful, but pay the $2.50 to see the fort its worth it.

Fort Clinch State Park is quite extensive with a lot to see and do! Would recommend wearing good shoes (most of the walking surfaces are even, but there is a lot of walking outside to the various exhibits and artifacts) and also walking inside buildings. To get the most of your visit to Fort Clinch State Park, would recommend visiting when the weather is nice.
In the park, activities include Bicycling, Birding, Camping (69 campsites), Camping - Primitive Group, Fishing (fishing license), Geo-Seeking, Hiking, Mountain Biking, Paddling, Picknicking, Shelling, Surfing, Swimming, Tours, Weddings, Wildlife Viewing & various Amenities.
Would highly recommend Fort Clinch State Park! It’s definitely one of the top Forts / Historic Parks! It would be a great activity for families with children!

I was fortunate today to encounter reenactment soldiers spending the weekend at this historic fort. Fascinating to gain their insight into daily living for the 75-100 soldiers & officers stationed at this waterfront lookout. The fort has been restored, has ample parking and beach fishing areas also are included in the state park admission. Fort admission is $2.50, a bargain for this glimpse into American history. The next time you're near Fernandina Beach make this stop a priority.

Beautiful view of the beach and ocean! The fort is very well preserved and one of the best we have ever visited.

It was great to see this historical US fort so well kept. A great hidden gem.
Well worth the park and fort admission price.

The drive to the fort entrance is pleasant. It’s a winding wooded road with small scenic stops. Fort Clinch State Park sets on St. Mary’s River across from Georgia. The fort was used by union soldiers to protect the harbor entrance during the Civil War. The view of the canons and massive walls of the fort entrance is intimidating. There are many rooms set up to display how the soldiers lived and worked. There is a panoramic view from the top of the wall. Examples of the large cannons for the defense of the fort set on the wall. Walking through the fort is very thought provoking. It gave me a better understanding of their lives and how lucky I am to live now.

Great restored fort that has lots of furniture and supplies in the various buildings. It is easy to understand the living conditions of the time. There are also a number of cannons and it is possible to imagine an enemy ship being fired on. There were two people there that answered questions and seemed happy to chat. We enjoyed out visit.

There was so much more to this park than I expected. So much to see and learn! We stayed 3 hours longer than we intended. Definitely a must do while on Amelia Island.

I love this state park. They have something for everyone. You can hike, hit the beaches see wildlife, visit the fort, and really explore this part of Florida in one setting. I just wish the fee to get into the fort wasn’t extra

Enjoyed a quick visit here. Decent amount of parking. Quickly toured the various camp sites available; tent, and RV slots. Beach was very nice and not crowded. Seems to have a nice set of walking trails. Books fast though so plan months in advance. It's immediate location to the main beach and historic city makes it popular. Facilities were fairly clean

Beautiful park. Definitely do the tour it is really interesting and the views are great. Be sure to hit every building and walk up on the top

Excellent place to enjoy a day on the beach, go hiking or tour the fort. it cost 6 dollars for a car load

We have visited Fort Clinch State Park many times. Wonderful place with forested surroundings, beautiful beaches, hiking/biking trails, wildlife & the civil war era fort. This was our first time staying at the RV campground. We were fortunate to get a couple days as someone cancelled. The park books reservations 11 months in advance so it may be difficult to secure a campsite when the weather is nice. There are two campgrounds. A riverside & beachside. We stayed riverside. Our site was on natural yet level ground, spacious with many trees & fairly private. There is a fire pit, picnic bench, clothes line, water & electric. The dumping station & laundry are nearby. The campground is on a gorgeous stretch of the river with a wonderful beach area & pier. The sunsets there are incredible as well as the views of the dolphins. Near the pier is a short maybe 10-15 minute easy hike to the fort parking lot, visitor center/store & a path to our favorite stretch of beach. There are almost always deer there. From the fort parking area we hiked back to the campground on the historic civil war military road path. An easy less than 10 minute hike that has an open area with picnic tables & a playground. Biking the main tree canopied road is so beautiful & peaceful but gets very busy with cars throughout the day. We loved having the park to ourselves before opening to the public. We toured the beachside RV park. The dunes block the beach views & the sites are very open to the sun. We arrived after park closure so we called ahead of time for the gate code.

Made a spur of the moment decision to visit Fernadina on a trip to St. Marys. The park looked interesting, so we pulled in a drove down the long road to the fort. Looks REALLY similar to Fort Pulaski outside Tybee. Fun to explore and the the paths around the fort were a fun hike. Lots of animal sightings too (although no alligators).

This park was awesome! My husband and I rode our bikes up to the Fort. It’s flat and shaded the whole way. It was $1 per person to get in, and I think $2.50 per person to walk through the Fort. There are nice bathrooms, a gift shop and ice cream bars at the Fort, and a small museum. Afterwards, you can walk the beach behind it and find sharks teeth. We found quite a few. You can’t swim there though. About halfway down the road to the Fort, there is a beach which is lovely and also has bathrooms and showers.Highly recommend this lovely park!

Beautiful drive in, very nice historical museum explaining fort history and background, very well maintained fort. The cannons were a hit with my youngest. Gorgeous views.

Very unique fort to explore! Kids absolutely loved it and thought it was a fun adventure. We happened to be there on reenactment day and everyone was so friendly. A must do for anyone vacationing on Amelia Island.

Fort Clinch is a beautiful state park with lots of bike trails and camping available. Although we didn't do that, we did explore the fort and learned a lot of history about what it contributed to the civil war. They actually do reenactments of everyday fort operations during the first weekend each month. I highly recommend visiting here if you're in the area!

Amazing state park that combines history and nature. The well preserved fort is just part of the adventure. There are plenty of hiking trails and beach access to get lost in nature.

We enjoyed exploring this fort and grounds. Kids loved finding all the hidden stairways and passages. The “expert” on the fort who had written a book about it was informative but a bit condescending which was a turnoff. Still recommend this place.

Well maintained park and fort is worth the visit, Interesting and fun to walk around and explore the building. Beach areas where OK not overly large so quickly crowded.

The park has a bit of everything - a fort to visit, endless beaches, shelling, trails, camping, and a beatiful drive. We did all of this except the camping. The park can fill up on weekends so go early.

This is an awesome place to visit and learn about past events for all ages. The grounds are very well maintained, and the volunteers are very knowledgeable. The store is very clean as well as the bathrooms.

The fort, the inlet and the beach are interesting and pristine. Beautiful vista of a large salt marsh too. We biked through and a large buck cross in front of us.

Very pleasant park staff, really interesting history museum that sets the tone for what we were about to view, loved the actors and the fort grounds. Very well kept and clean -- you can be here for 2 hrs easily. Definitely recommend steps to the top of the fort to see the amazing views of the Atlantic and the river next to the fort.

We enjoyed our visit to Fort Clinch and Fort Clinch State Park. Unfortunately, we didn't have the best weather during our visit to Amelia Island, so we had to visit the park on a chilly, rainy day. If you can go on a nice day, it makes all the difference in the world. Aside from the gift shop and small museum (informative, definitely worth reading the exhibits before you visit the fort itself), there's not much shelter. There were some historical reenactors in character during our trip. They stayed indoors, huddled around an old fireplace to stay warm, but you could ask them questions and learn a bit more about life at the fort. Children will definitely enjoy the chance to play make believe, run around, climb up staircases and check out the view. I don't believe there are any elevators.
Once you tire of the fort, head next door to the beach and search for treasure. We found more interesting shells at the small beach by the campground down the road than we did at the main beach. You may also wish to bring bikes to explore the rest of the state park.

The best beach, wonderfully amazing fort, the trails are amazeballs. Make this your 1st thing on your list of places to go

We decided to explore Fort Clinch State Park and it did not disappoint! Serious defense with all the guns around the fort. Amazing history lessons! Walk the fort and see how people used to live.

This beautiful park unfortunately has rangers or volunteers blowing leaves daily. They are everywhere you go including if you are walking on the road they come by with a blower behind their truck. Or if you are sitting at the bench at the Fort taking a break outside the Fort they have been known to blow the parking lot the entire 20 minutes sitting there. Or, go to the playground area and try to have a peaceful rest and they are blowing the playground and around the picnic tables. It is so ridiculous and so needless. It is a park for goodness sake. Leaves are expected to be on the ground. Leave it alone.
My husband and I are locals and walk at the park daily.

The main road had a canopy which provided much appreciated shade on a very hot day. Trails looked great as well, but we stayed on the main road.

My family visited here to do an unguided tour on our own which was nice. We enjoyed learning its history as well as being able to walk all around the fort. We then spent some time walking around and shelling on the beach. You can likely make this a full day affair if you want to hike the trails but we didn’t have the time. I’d definitely recommend a visit here.

Beautiful park with much undeveloped forest. Bike and hiking paths as well as beaches with adequate parking and we were surprised to find they have 3 campgrounds!
There’s a charge to enter, cut well worth it. We paid $6 for entry for our car.

My husband and I spent Christmas Day biking under the picturesque canopy of grand oaks and Spanish moss. The road into the park is hardtop and semi level. The park contains more adventurous single track biking trails but our bikes were better suited for the road. We did encounter several people looking for these single track trails so perhaps the park needs to include a better off-road trail map in their Brochure.

This was a great experience and fun had by all. The staff was very nice and taught us alot about the fort! Well worth going.

Was looking for shark teeth right next to the fort, so I decided to check k out the fort. It costs $4-$6 to enter the state park and an additional $2.50 per person to enter the fort. There are a few buildings you can enter to learn what it was like to live in the fort back during the civil war. There was a period actor too who was able to answer questions about the fort. Definitely worth $2.50!

Very interesting to tour the fort, its a little extra charge to do so but cheap. Great views an a nice park. Lots of empty beaches.

We decided to visit the Fort and walk a couple trails. First, the Fort is very cool. Neither my husband or I are necessarily history buffs but we thoroughly enjoyed it. We then hit a couple little trails and headed to the beach. There was ONE other couple we encountered on the beach and the beach itself was absolutely beautiful. There was plenty of parking and restrooms on site which was an added bonus. We loved the beach so much we came back the next day. It was a little more busy then but nothing like the regular packed beach accesses around. Pay the $6 to support this great park and have the best beach access! You wont regret it!

FORT CLINCH WAS A VERY COOL PLACE TO VISIT. JUST REMEMBER TO GET A UBER OR RENTAL CAR. THE SIGN AT THE ENTERANCE OF THE PARK IS 3 MILES AWAY FROM THE FORT ITSELF. MAKES FOR A LONG WALK.

Beautiful park with lots of attention and care to the historical detail. My husband and I visited during December (best weather!) and had a nice time walking thru all the parts of the fort and the view is also incredible. The park also has many walking trails. visitor center is clean and spacious and nice staff. Wear walking shoes and take care on the brick stairs if you go to top of the fort. Watch kids carefully.

Wonderful morning excursion. Fort is in great shape. We did a self tour in off season. Can see artillery marks in the brick.

We came there late in the day and we were glad we got to see everything. The 'guides' were unique - loved watching the horse shoeing process in particular.

This fort is stunning! The view is amazing. You can pretty much walk around everywhere and it's well marked where you can and cannot go. The staff walking around are friendly and knowledgeable.

$2.50 pp to get into fort the park fee is $5 the staff in the fort not as friendly they gave us issues on our service dog lady was down right rude we went Sunday September 3rd it okay nothing spectacular

We were blessed with a beautiful day and a cool breeze, which made our visit even sweeter. The fort is really interesting and fun to explore, with tunnels and towers and multiple layers. It is ingenious that the windows are all open to look into the interior rooms. I found my imagination taking me back to the daily life of the soldiers. There was a costumed interpreter available as well.
This would be a great place to take kids because it’s affordable and has wide open spaces for running as well as hidden niches.
We walked the Willow Pond Nature trail because of a suggestion by the ranger that it would be a good day to catch views of wildlife, but we didn’t see any animals. :-(
This is a great place to spend a day strolling around old Florida.

As part of the Buccaneer Trail this was our first stop on Amelia Island. The fort is inside the park and has a plethora of historic artifacts to see in the museum. The best part is the reenactors that play their roles in 1864 perfectly. I loved seeing the fort setup as if we had truly stepped back in time. The views from the ramparts over Cumberland sound it breathtaking. We walked the beach searching for sharks teeth but did not find any today. We did see the wild horses on the island using binoculars. A great day trip from Orlando. The park has lots to offer families and kids.

We had a free morning on our recent trip to Amelia Island, and checked out the Fort Clinch area.
There was an entrance fee per car to get on the grounds. It is a beautiful drive 3 miles from the entrance to the fort, take time to check out the vistas and the tree canopy.
We then went to the beach and enjoyed the shoreline and looking for shells.
While we didn’t get tickets to the fort, the gift shop and bathrooms were a nice stop.

We really loved the park. My family and I loved every aspect of this beautiful state park. The scenic drive coming in under tree covered streets, to the beautiful unspoiled long stretch of beaches. And we really enjoyed the Fort and breathtaking views of Cumberland Island. I would highly visiting this park, it does not disappoint.

It is truly a great place to visit! The canopy, wildlife and drive are amazing and the fort is so unique! Just know the fee to get in the park doesn’t include the fort. No big deal…it’s a nominal fee, just wasn’t aware of it.

Great place to stop while in town! My fiancé and I stopped to check it out and had a great time viewing and walking the grounds. We found 2 shark teeth at the beach behind the Fort & spent around 4 hours here adventuring!

My first time here and it is in good condition though very similar to the other forts. Took about an hour to tour. Good luck.

This is a must-do experience for anyone in the Amelia Island vicinity. We had a great time exploring the fort and learning about its occupancy during several wars. The amount of bricks used in construction is mind-boggling.

Fort is a fun and educational experience. Multiple buildings to walk through and take a step back in time. An Amelia Island must see.

My first to the park and what I saw was just beautiful and the Fort very interesting with the beauty of the water. Wished I could have stayed longer!

The beach is lovely and likely much less busy than the other beaches, since there is a small entry fee. Especially great about visiting was seeing how well all modes of transportation were welcome. Everyone seemed to be having a great time whether biking, hiking, or boarding

A must visit if your in the area !
Fort Clinch is such 👍🏼a gem - the Fort itself is worth the visit - crazy good history to explore and can ask questions to in character period employees . The beach area around the Fort is breathtaking not to mention a great area to find shark teeth and possibly see a nuclear sub surface! We booked a Shark Tooth Experience with Airbnb and we were so happy we did. Nancy that does the experience is amazing - she gives you a presentation of her personal shark tooth collection which includes a very large Megadon tooth ! Many teeth in her collection of various sharks in the waters around this area. Nancy then takes you out to the beach to give you all the secrets to locate shark teeth and gives you teeth to take home as well !!
The tree canopy lined road is so beautiful
stop off for a view of the Amelia lighthouse along the way - Biking or Hiking the park
Very fun

The Park covers the northeast corner of Amelia Island, and as soon as you pull off the four-lane street into the park it's like you are in a different world. Spanish Moss draped trees surround the road. There are hiking and biking trails, narrow, but secluded beaches, and a civil war era fort to explore. Admin. is $8.00 per car plus $2.00 per person at the fort. Highly recommended.

The park itself offers many opportunities for outdoor fun. The fort is well maintained and offers some nice water views . Easy place to wander and explore.

Nice place on a nice day for a self-guided tour of a scenic old fort near the beach. Strange construction outside of the fort near the beach, but otherwise quite nice and informative.

Fort Clinch sits on the water and not only has spectacular views of the ocean but offers a look at the working of a fort in Civil War times.
You could look in the windows and see how kitchen was set up, the sleeping and dining quarters. There were 2 officers dressed in period uniform who answered questions about the fort.
The ride through the park to the fort had beautiful tree formations bordering the road.
We watched a British submarine being escorted to the open ocean which was even more exciting.

Fort Clinch is great. The trip as you enter the park is 3 miles of canopied tree lined road before you reach your destination. Beautiful!

Very nice Fort. Many original items displayed everywhere in the 19th century. It was fun to look inside the buildings and see just how life was back in the war. I understand on weekends they have live re-enactments.

Great history! Knowledgeable volunteers in time period costumes. Nice walking and views from the fort. Can camp there and walk the trails that are beautiful!

The drive through the fort was lovely! We paid the $2.50 for the self guided tour. Highly recommend. So much history regarding the civil war. The museum is small although free.

We stayed here for a couple of nights in our RV. We stayed in the river loop which is very quiet and pretty with lots of shade and private spaces. One night we stayed in space 44 which was right across from the restroom/ bath house. Perfect for our class c 32 ft RV. The next night we had to move over to spot 45 which was also spacious and shady. The restroom was super clean and the showers were nice. This park was easy to maneuver and navigate around. Each space has water and electricity but no sewer there is a dump station that was easy enough to dump. The fort was about a 20 walk away from the river loop. Definitely worth visiting. One of the nicest forts we have seen. Lots of hiking trails, bring bikes if you have them. The campground is also close to the historic district which has shops and restaurants. We wanted to check it out on our way out of town. So we drove to veterans Central Park and parked the RV there then walked about 10 minutes to the downtown. Definitely visit this small beautiful town.

We learned a lot about how union soldiers' lives by observing their quarters, kitchens, and laundry room. The gatling gun exhibit was just super cool. We also learned about very interesting anecdotes about Amelia island; e.g. union warships shot at David Yulee's fleeing train and set it on fire.

We didn't see the fort itself, but we paid a small fee to get into the park and take the walk/hike. Lots of armadillos but half of the walk is alongside the road and no water views. I think there might be better walks elsewhere.

This is a great spot to learn about US and Florida history. Although the property needs a little TLC, you can still get a good tour and learn the history. The views are quite spectacular as well.

What a gorgeous place to camp! We were in site 54 which was shady and spacious. The fort is very interesting, tons of history there. The fishing was great. Check in was easy and the staff was very friendly. Roads in the park were paved with some low hanging tree limbs that were marked. The river campground was a bit tight to maneuver a 37' fifth wheel. The dump station in the river campground is on the passenger side so bring an extra hose. Cell phone service was very limited (Verizon). We drove over to take a look at the beach campground. No privacy between the sites compared to the river campground. Be careful of the sand spurs on that side. Not the best place to walk the dogs. We will definitely return.

This is a beautiful park on the beach and marsh. Many activities available, camping, hiking, biking, bird watching.

I saw that Fort Clinch has candlelight tours the first Saturday of the month. I attempted to call to ask about a reservation for the tour but only got the machine. So I did what I would normally never do ... wing it. I got to the park and was told you can only go on the tour if you were a camper and they were already booked. Then was told "oh and we are closing in 30 min so drive up turn around and exit the park" . I can understand the being overbooked part, but I really wish I would have known that being a camper was also a requirement for the tour because then I would have known not to make the 1 hour drive. So hopefully this helps someone else.

The location is wonderful, as you drive in the live oaks overhang the road, dripping with Spanish Moss. The fort itself allows y9ou to explore at your own pace. It's design is interesting and the "exhibits" informative. It could be better maintained.

What a fantastic place to spend time outdoors and learn a little about Amelia Island’s unique and eclectic history- loved it!

When in Fernandina Beach, don’t leave without going to Fort Clinch. The fort is spectacular and the beach is beautiful. My kids loved looking for shark teeth along the shore. It was a wonderful morning spent at the Fort. There is a small fee to get in, $6 per car but very small for all you can do there.

The fort is a great place to learn about local and US history, nice walk around with volunteers in costume. Nice hiking trails with information signs and good wildlife. Saw gators

Very nice fort. Buildings have been renovated and look in good shape. One minor surprise, there was a charge to enter the park, and then another charge to enter the fort. I admit, there were some things you could do without going in the fort. There is beach access. And some hiking. While it did not make sense, the price to enter the fort was not bad, only 2.50. We got there too late. I wish they had told us at the front gate the fort was closing in a short time.

Our family enjoyed walking around the fort and seeing understanding the history of the fort and how they lived during that time. They had many folks dressed in the vintage attire with some re-enactments.

Fort Clinch State Park follows Covid 19 procedures, great staff. They are doing reenactments telling stories of Fort. Besides the beautiful beach, lots of things to do.

Fun place to spend a little time. There was a gentleman there in period costume that was full of knowledge about the Fort. Definitely worth a visit.

Surprisingly educational beautiful view helpful staff great beach goid memories of nature and defense of florida in a dangerous time

Really nice roads very shady and seem to have quite the off road trail. Very pretty inlet views as well. The fort was interesting as well

Wide variety of experiences. The road in has shaded canopy of whatever the quintessential mossy trees of this area are. Good lookout spot of marsh and lighthouse. Nice nature trail that doesn’t take long. Fort is well preserved and the flag whipping in the wind adds a nice feel to it all. Nice beach area just beyond fort, good shelling and not hard to find shark teeth

$6 to get into State Park. Then $2.50 per person to see the fort fir a self guided tour. Probably more interesting if you go on a weekend when do reenactments. Start in a very small museum explaining the fort history. Rooms open so could beds etc. Rooms with smaller items you could only look thru window frames. You can go outside the fort down the hill to a beach known for sharks teeth when low tide.

A great place to get history and beauty! Great beaches and nature trails to hike. We will stay for the sunsets next time.

The park itself is gorgeous. Many bike and hiking trails. Live oak and palm trees everywhere. Eagan Creek overlook provides a view of the Amelia Island Lighthouse.
The park entrance is easy to miss. I paid $4.00 for park admission. The fort is an additional $2.50. Beach access within the park along with Kayak rentals. Nearby is the Fernandina Beach historic District. The place for food with lots of hometown restaraunts. Fort Clinch is a restored Civil War era and coastal defence fort. It has a small museum and gift shop. Aside from the historical aspect of the fort, It's walls provide a great view of Cumberland sound.

Very scenic. Plenty of paths and parking. Great place to exercise and see nature!! Definitely the real Florida

Had a beautiful day, we have been to several forts including Castillo de San Marcos National Monument in St Augustine. I would rate this one better.

They say dog friendly, you pay to drive in and then you find out it is friendly to leave your dog in the car while you pay more to get into the fort. They are not welcome for the $6 donation to drive in and then turn around and drive out.

Well worth going to. A restored Fort that had been used by both Confederate and union Armies during the Civil war.

For $6 a car of 2 to 8 you can't beat the price for a park. Entrance to the fort was extra but not much. Was worth the half day out and cheap.

My wife and I really enjoyed touring this historic fort. It is well maintained and has a nice museum to further explain its significance and history. Also, there was a character actor roaming the fort to whom we could ask questions. A great way to spend a couple of hours.

There were men dressed in costumes but they did nothing more than stand around and talk and laugh amongst themselves. Disappointed.

History Buffs must go. Beaches are pristine and uncrowded. Disappointed in Handicap Accessibility. If you have mobility issues it is very difficult to see the Fort.

Another great piece of American History preserved. A very cost effective outing that has a lot to offer. Beautiful drive through the compound on the way to the fort. Lots of places to stop and take pictures. Hiking and Mountain Biking Trails throughout the facility. We stopped and saw the salt marsh. All of the staff were really nice, with the exception of the one soldier actor we encountered. It was a wet dreary day and there weren’t many visitors so I don’t understand. Beautiful views from the top of the fort if you wish to walk up the stairs. A nice collection of artifacts and ample room to roam if you choose.

Check out the beach and the fort. People were on the beach searching for sharks teeth. One of the searchers showed me the teeth he found and most were very small, but he showed me on that was VERY impressive. If that's your thing, maybe this is your place.

I had never heard of this fort, but it apparently played a big role in the defense of our country's coast, along with other forts. It is very much in tact and very interesting. The museum features are very informative and there are great views from the ramparts of the fort. I highly recommend a visit to this fort.

Had a lovely bike ride through the park and enjoyed walking around the grounds of the fort. Great views. Favorite part was riding the road under the canopy of the trees.

We took a quick tour of the fort. It was very interesting. The kids enjoyed all the passages. We went to the beach to look for shark teeth. We didn't find any of the couple next to us found several

The fort is worth visiting once. Well kept and a beach near by. There are biking trails if you want to; I believe they close early. Just check timings and go!

We went here in October 2023. The fort is really cool and was about $7.00 for three of us to get in and look around. They had pole dressed up that I assume would give you information about the history, but none of them spoke to us. There is an area in front on the beach we’re you are supposed to look for shark’s teeth, but we didn’t find any. They charge about $6 per car to get into the park. There were trails you could go on as well if you have some time to explore.

We visited yesterday. It was a sunny, warm beautiful day. The park is big and there are nice beaches if you want to picnic and swim. The water is still cold yet so we went to see the fort which is a really interesting site of little-known American history. From the walls of the fort you can see GA/ Cumberland Island and all the boat traffic and the water. There’s lots of birds to see and it’s just a lovely, fresh air, pretty park to see.

Loved the fort and all the nature around the fort - it’s really a must see for Amelia island. I was even lucky enough to view from the air when I went Paramotoring!

This fort is a good place to visit, with some interesting facts. The views are great! There is not a lot to look at, a few cannon's, some barracks and things like that. The drive in is gorgeous, and would be fun to ride a bike. There are a lot of camping sites, so would be good for anyone wanting to do that. The beach that surrounds the fort is really nice too.

This was a great park and fort! My husband loved the fort and all the detail they took to make it look like it used to. The beach area was quite and very nice.

The place is amazing to see how the fort was built and still looking good. The staff was nice. It was amazing views. And the cannons are great to see

We went driving through and on the beach! Clear water, and oh so calming, get in your 4 wheel drive and GO!

Even just the drive from the park gate out to Fort Clinch - lined with old Spanish oaks, is worth the drive into the park. Then you get to the historic, well-preserved fort and step back into history. The fort is extensive and gives you a lot of insight into military history over time. If you are doing an A1A road trip, its cool to see this fort and then see the Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine, which provides an opportunity to see how fortifications were similar and different over time. The fort had plentiful parking.
The park has camping, trails, and other amenities - but we were there just for the fort.

Really cool historic place! The kids loved exploring the fort and climbing the spiral staircases to the bastions and seeing how big the canons were. Pretty views to the water below

Do see the fort. It is an interesting piece of history, especially on the weekends when they have "living history". Kids love to explore all the tunnels and passages. A nice family place to visit.

soldier playing fife, good to see museum first, lots of history and great views. Big canons, works shops and insight into daily life of soldiers.

Ft Clinch State Park gives a vivid preserved historical look of military life in the 1840s. Located on the St Mary’s River you can explore the park and all the buildings with great views of shrimp boats and beaches. I got to see a British Navy submarine leaving the area since the US sub base is located here and does repairs etc.
You can’t go wrong for $6 a car admission.

Nice place that is well preserved. The "tour" is self guided and somewhat lacking. But it makes for a nice couple of relaxing hours and you WILL learn things you probably did not know.

Best beach in the area. No dogs!!. Awesome shell searching. Easy walks without massive crowding. Clean restrooms. Wonderful views. Drive through the winding Live Oaks and Palmetto thickets was breathtaking. Worth paying admission for this great State run park.

A delightful peaceful visit with just a few folks in sight. Easy access from the parking area; a beach walk like no other.

The canopied drive to the fort is beautiful. Fort Clinch, itself, is interesting and well preserved. In addition to the fort, there are hiking trails, bicycling, and an expansive beach for swimming, shelling/looking for shark teeth, and fishing. The park also includes campgrounds. We saw 3 dogs in the fort, so it is dog-friendly to some degree. Dogs are prohibited on the beaches and boardwalks though. The Egans Creek Marsh overlook is worth a brief stop for a peaceful view across the marsh to the Amelia Island Lighthouse.

Love this fort for its views, historical presentations of the buildings and the nooks and crannies to investigate. We walked the beach surrounding and found sharks teeth...and deer tracks!

This was a really cool place to visit. You can explore the rooms in the fort ( or look through windows) and see the staged furniture and items from the period. The period soldier walking around to answer questions is great! The views are beautiful too!

We really like this park. We walked around and found some shark's teeth. We are going to camp here in August, haven't been able to get a reservation before this year that worked with our schedule. We didn't visit inside the fort this time, but it's a good experience.

So much history all in one place. Be sure to seek out the lady by the commanders building and find out why the UNION army built a fort in the the south. Yup, they sure did. It is a great story and kids should learn this part of our country’s history. For sure put this on your list of things to do

Awesome tour of the Fort and we found sharks teeth on the beach! The drive in on the main road is beautiful.

Fort Clinch has a long and varied part of Florida history. The buildings and historical exhibits provide an interesting experience. We especially recommend their monthly reenactments and period displays (check the website for events). Also lovely views of the St. Mary's River, and Cumberland Island across the river in Georgia. Easy hiking trails thru varied Florida woods and upland forests. The Fort is easily accessible to both downtown Fernandina & wonderful shops and restaurants, as well aa the Beach.

We visited Fort Clinch and were pleased to have locals in costume providing historical context to the fort. It is well kept and easy to access, though would be difficult for someone who is not ambulatory. Some areas are not blocked off and would be dangerous to small children, so you'll want to keep them close and not let them run around. All in all, it was a great experience, and we were lucky to experience this place and its complex history. Bring plenty of water and wear sunscreen, and walk around with the spirit of the past.

Beautiful views! The historic interpreters were friendly and provided a wonderful experience! The drums & fife demonstration was great!

Worth the money to drive thru the park and the extra money to visit the Fort. Gorgeous views and solemn memories.

We spent a late afternoon here in early October. Weather was perfect for a sunset stroll along the beach, no crowds, clean beach and recreation areas, and wildlife all around us as we walked along the boardwalk back to our car. Signage is good, and there's plenty of space to wander around without running into crowds.

We enjoyed visiting the state park. To have the beach and such beautiful scenery together is very inspiring. There are numerous walking trails and biking trails.

We had a wonderful afternoon looking for sharks teeth and found quite a few!
We've visited the fort previously and the staff were in character and helped us experience what life was like in that period. Great fun and we learned a lot.

Fort had tunnels and spiral stairs. Never been to a fort like this. Enjoyed searching for shark teeth on the beach outside the fort.
Very interesting and fun.

We in joy historical sites so we liked it but it wasn’t the loads of fun. We did go out to the beach north of it and find a few shark teeth. Hint on the teeth, they are small and black.

Our visit was cold and blustery but the fort was so well preserved and the views were so awesome that we stayed much longer than our cold fingers and toes wanted. Fort Clinch has been beautifully restored and we look forward to going back on a sunny day.

We joined the nature walk at 10:30am on Saturday (only offered on Saturdays) . Nice walk - easy terrain- fun to hear about local flora /fauna. Then we toured the Fort itself. Worth the $2 admission fee as my husband is a history buff. The "soldier" we spoke with was knowledgeable. We stayed and went to the beach- has changing rooms/bathrooms. Quiet beach- nice area. Easy to spend the day at Fort Clinch State Park!

Nice beaches. Love the mossy oaks. Fort was interesting to visit. Lots to see and explore around the park.

Visited Fort Clinch. The museum is very interesting.
Watch the video - very informative. The draw bridge, prison, etc all awesome! Gift shop nicely stocked. Shark tooth hunting afterwards - success!!! Stopped at the lookout just before leaving the park to see the Amelia Island lighthouse in the distance but use the view finder and it's right in front of you. A bus tour only (located in a residential area) can get you up close).

This was a great way to spend the afternoon and was very interesting to see. It was alot of walking and hot but overall a very enjoyable experience. After we toured the fort, we walked down to the beach to look for shark teeth. We didn't find any but there were quite a few professional type people digging and searching. I am still wondering why so many shark teeth are on these beaches, I was too concerned to get in the water after considering all the possibilities. I guess wade at your own risk.

Great location at the Hampton inn right down from
The beach. Ate at Pablo’s excellent Margaritas and rib eye steak fajitas enough for two with cheese dip salsa and chips. The town is quaint. We have been here before so easy to
Get around and park. We did some geocaching as well as some shark tooth hunting on the beach

We love coming to Fort Clinch, especially shelling and looking for shark teeth near the jetty. Lots of wildlife including beautiful fish, starfish, prawns, etc. The fort itself is also really cool, and has some great views and lots of historical information.

This park has a lot to offer. At $6 a vehicle and $2.50 per person to go through the museum and fort it really is a cheap day with a lot going on. There are places to stop along the way for bird watching and walking on the trails. You’re right next to the algae water so keep your eyes peeling for snakes and gators!
The museum is all the way in the back and there’s a lot of parking which fills up quick on the weekends. There’s lots of people visiting and some camping. When you walk through the fort you have so many areas to explore. Some areas are dark with tiny corkscrew stairs that lead to the top where you can get a beautiful view of the beach. Other areas are open for easier access where you can take pictures next to the cannons. Soldiers are walking around and in certain areas where you can ask questions and they can give you an idea of what’s what in the housing and storage areas of the fort. It’s a great place for families or couples or by yourself. It’s a beautiful park that is rich in history. Go see it!

A little something for everbody. Wildlife, hiking, beaches and the fort. We return each time we visit the area.

Wow! This place knows how to maintain historic sties! There were many people dressed up as people from the civil war era. You could also peek into building and look at the old houses. I definitely recommend this parks especially if you have nothing to do!

It was the first time that I entered a state park that charges you to see what it advertises AFTER it charged you the entrance fee.
We decided to drive to the park spontaneously and after driving for 2 hours came in 1.5 hour before closing time, mainly to see the fort. We entered paying 6 $ for two people in a car. This made sense since the park states that it charges $4 per a single person in a vehicle and then $2 per additional passenger. However, it also doesn't make sense because, as later discovered, the website states that the same price of 6$ is for up to 8 people per vehicle. Anyway, a surprise comes after you pay and enter because to see the actual fort you need to pay an additional fee of $2.5 per person. So what was the entry fee specifically for if you can't visit the fort? There was not much to do on a late January afternoon: a trail runs along the 3 mile road, but we could only walk a section because we had to return to the car, there was anther short loop in the woods, and there was a view point with a view of a light house and a smoking factory. The one beautiful feature we noted was that the road was lined up with old trees covered in Spanish moss. Otherwise, it was a tad disappointing visit. I would suggest that the park revises its fees policy, so it is clear and fair. Maybe charge the $11 per two people right at the entry, or at least put a huge sign that informs the visitors they will not be able to visit the fort in the Fort Clinch State park without additional fees.

Love going into the fort. It’s a wonderful historical place that needs to be seen by all who visit our wonderful island, but it also has some of the best beaches on the island. Spent the afternoon walking the beach and hunting for shark’s teeth and shells. Just glorious. Quiet and a must visit spot!

Exceptionally well kept fort. The architecture is amazing and the staff are very knowledgeable. Beachs around the fort are well worth the visit also.

The fort was worth seeing I’m sorry I didn’t spend more time learning about the facility while I was there because I got there too late. It was definitely worth a visit

Ride your bikes here and pack up for a day at the beach! Want to escape the crowds? We paid $2.00 each to bike the pretty 3 mile ride into the fort. There’s a building with a gift shop, drinks and snacks, and clean bathrooms. You can pay to take the museum and tour the fort OR for free just take your bikes out to the beach area. Not the greatest swimming area, but the view and peacefulness make up for it!

There were a few displays set up but no one available for q&a. Very much in disrepair and needs some work to make things safer. There should be some staff available in case of an emergency.

Very nice grounds, very nice road-scenery leading into the vistors center
The fort is kind of small but well preserved
A short drive north from Jacksonville. A must visit if you are in the area.

My family has vacationed here every year before I was even born. You have a private access to the beach, to the river, and to the fort. Wonderful place to stay whether its at the beach campsites or the river sites. Nice facilities as well.

This is a great place to see while at Amelia Island. The fort is in the state park and it's not covered when you pay to enter the park, but it worth seeing. You can look through most places in fort.

We toured the old fort and it was amazing. Well kept, very interesting! We highly recommend this interesting and educational experience!

Looking for sharks teeth on the beach, what an exciting time. . . .we went away to eat lunch and time our hunt to be at low tide. The ranger said he would trust that we had already paid, when we return. He did remember us when we returned and he joked that he had never seen us before. SO FRIENDLY AND FUNNY.
The fort was spectacular, and we have toured a few around the US.

This large Fort is a lot of fun to explore with passageways, rooms, and ability to walk on the top where the cannons are located next to the water. The park offers trails for biking and walking, a beach area though not as nice of a beach as some other parts of Northeast Florida, fishing, and camping. Located within easy driving distance of a couple of miles to downtown Fernandina Beach. Plenty of room at the Fort for kids to wander and explore and for adults to enjoy the history and views.

This property covers hundreds of acres with two campgrounds, beaches, and miles of hiking and biking trails surround the fort. Well worth a visit!

Interest piece of history which we seem to be losing out in the world as it is today. A must see for the younger generation if you are in the area.

This 1,400-acre Florida State Park is located on the northeastern side of Amelia Island. It is one of 175 State Parks in Florida, many winning awards. The price for cars is $6 for a day. An annual family pass is offered for $120 and single $60. If you visit enough of these State Parks, it is worth getting the annual pass.
The Park official is friendly and will give you all the info you need. There are actually two campgrounds at this park. We highly recommend going on line reserving your spot.
The road in this State Park goes in quite a ways. It is a picturesque ride with over-hanging oak trees shading the way. Be alert for bicycle riders as they frequent the main road.
There are several trails from the main road. We enjoyed Egans Creek turn-off with a view of Amelia Island’s famous lighthouse. It is the oldest lighthouse in Florida dating back to the early 19th century. The Amelia Island emblem is of this lighthouse.
There was another trail that went into the marsh lands. It is advised to be on the look-out for alligators in that area.
At one end of the road is Fort Clinch. The first bricks were placed in 1847 and was named after a general who fought in the War of 1812 and the Seminole Wars. General Lee abandoned the fort in 1862 allowing the North to control St. Mary’s River and the Cumberland, GA shoreline. The fort never did see any fighting like Ft. Pulaski did in Savannah.
In our first visit in 2004, seeing the fort was incorporated in the price of the State Park. Today, there is a $2.50 charge to view the museum and fort access. The fort does give a commanding view of the inlet and surrounding area.
We enjoyed walking the beach going eastward from the fort. We came across a woman that was collecting tiny “shark teeth.” It is asked that you do not swim in the inlet area due to fast moving tides.

We biked through one day then went back to tour the fort and go to the beach. A beautiful park with lots to see or to just relax.
