4 of 400 Best Attractions in Charlotte

I've been going to this park since I was a kid and I've always enjoyed the scenery. On top of the great scenery it has pretty much everything you want in a nice park. Facilities for family events, play area for kids of all ages, multiple baseball fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, and play areas. This park is perfect for family or just for a quiet walk on the ample amount of trails they have that extend all the way downstream to CMC Main.

Freedom Park is a great spot in Charlotte to enjoy lush green space and time in nature. It was my son's favorite park when he was young and now we go as a family just to walk and spend time together in the sun.

This place is always packed! Finding parking can be difficult. It's attached to the Charlotte Nature Museum, which is fun. It has a train and a pond to enjoy.

This park is very well maintained and beautiful. There are bikes to rent by the hour, a nice lake to lounge in front of, lots of trails to run and/or hike, and grassy knolls to picnic on. I would recommend grabbing food to go from the many local restaurants near here and doing a cool picnic. The houses around here are stunning and worth a bike ride through. Very dog friendly as well. Overall, I was very impressed with how manicured and lovely this park was. The only downside is there are no kayak or water sport rentals for the lake.

Great for walks, kids parties, bike rinding, picnics, pokemon go. Very relaxing just to sit on a bench and stare at the lake. You can feed the ducks, and much more. Good location.

I live nearby and use Freedom Park frequently for walking, biking, picnicing, enoing.... It is nice to see so many people also using the park. The shelters and bathrooms were recently renovated and the children's play area is "to die for" with lots of bright blue plastic slides, climbing walls, swings, monkey rings....

Great park for walking, for dogs, and for kids! Fun, well-designed playground for kids of all ages. They even have onsite bathrooms and water fountains - both appreciated on a hot August weekend.

This is still a nice place to visit. The greenway is overrun by bugs but still a nice walk. I don't like how they closed up (cut off) the train. Other than that. Its a great park.

An in town, beautiful park that everyone can enjoy. A wonderful play ground for the kids - I have never seen one this large with all the different challenges for the kids . . . they just loved it.

We rented a house near Freedom Park - was never in it before and had the pleasure of spending 1 year walking in the park. It always has people in it but I never saw it too crowded - has swings, baseball parks, basketball, volley ball - plenty of lawn space. It even has a stage that they have concerts in the summer time. Of course it has a large lake in the middle - that I saw people fishing in - but never saw them catch anything - LOL. It's just a really nice park

This park is lovely. A great size and has all the enmities one needs for an afternoon out. Great toddler playground, visited by many. Nice paths for walking, jogging or taking the dog. Much needed dog watering and dishes.

A nice outdoor space with a large playground area. Well maintained and a pleasure to walk through or to relax or to take your children. Well done.

Freedom Park is a must stop if you're visiting Charlotte. If you live here then you probably go at least once a month. You're got people having picnics, playing volleyball, walking their dogs, biking or just taking a job/stroll. This is true Charlotte with all the beautiful scenery in one spot. Perfect for families, couples, young and old.

Hit or miss in this park. Sometimes it appears to be clean others times very crowded with trash scattered. For some reason my wife and never feel safe here. Not my favorite place to go,but it is a park that is near the city and some exquisite homes in the area.

Second visit first one ten years ago in 104° heat this cost with our grandson who just loves trains so it was utopia for him.
Three years old he could go on almost all the slides and he had a great time, a walk around the lake in the fall sunshine complete a wonderful visit.
Highly recommended.

Our grandchildren have always enjoyed playing in this park and our grandson played soccer here. The Carolina Panthers new play area is phenomenal. We also enjoy the lake and being able to walk for exercise and feel safe.

Plenty of playground areas for the kids to play, basketball and baseball areas, and a covered stage are with seating area when a concert is going on. All around the lake in the center of the park there are booths, food vendors and others ti sale and show their products during the "Festival in the Park Festivities". There are geese that come right up to you to eat out of your hands. That scared me because they are wile as far as I am concerned.

There's a cool breeze in the air but yet the sun is shining birds are chirping in the background just peaceful really nice I enjoyed my stay

Our family loves this park. What a great place to just walk around on a summer day. Love the fountain!

A beautiful tribute to our military. The fountain is fabulous. Our family was impressed by it and appreciated the honor given to service men and women

Very nice relaxing park to visit. It is pretty big and great place to visit with family. There are activities and things to do or simply sit around and enjoy the views.

Every council in the UK should be ashamed of our parks, when you see what the USA offer their kids, especially Freedom Park.
The addition of the Panthers traning area is amazing, the bathrooms are nice and clean, the park area is unbelievable and the steam engine just adds more, the only thing missing is a splash pad!
The park itself is beautiful to walk around even in 35° heat.
Our grandson is train mad so we spent 30 minutes in the steaming hot train, a four year old with so much train knowledge and enthusiasm for play.

This park came recommended and I'm glad I visited. There is a decent size car park and plenty of space to stroll and escape city crowds. It was a weekday morning when I was there so it was quiet, but there are facilities for young children and a sports area too. There is an amphitheatre beside the pond so I can imagine its a nice venue for live orchestras. I walked around the large pond, but I could see there was some walking trails if people want more time there. Its nice to see some monuments connected to history too. The trees at this time of year are stunning also.

Went on a weekday afternoon, about 3PM. Children's playground was overflowing with kids of all ages, some with little or no adult supervision, which made it a dangerous place where little kids could be run over by the larger kids (note this was the middle of spring recess for the local schools). The rest of the park was crowded but still usable for a walk or sitting on a bench and watching the world go pass. I would go again, especially when school was in session, which would mitigate the crowds.

I enjoy parking on 3rd avenue parking lot and walking to Freedom park along the waterway. Plenty of shopping and eateries on the way to and from Freedom Park. When we return to the parking lot, we generally hop on the trolley downtown to visit Epicenter eateries or events.

So relaxing and beautiful. Nice big lake. Plenty of places to sit and relax. Highly recommend this place to enjoy nature.

Whether you want to go on a 15 minute or 3 hour picnic, this park is for you. Ball parks, kids climbing equipment, music stand, and you can walk across a bridge to some type of small kids museum.

We took a walk around the grounds in the late morning/early afternoon. The views are so pretty and give a sense of calm. Everything is well manicured and taken care of. The fountains surrounded by large trees is the perfect backdrop for a relaxing pause in your day.

I love walking through there's always a mixture of people from young to old BUT everyone is always friendly, smiling and it's peace!

Serene, quiet, and nature at its best right in the center of town. Ideal for all ages and abilities.

The park is great for small kids or friends hanging out for the afternoon or a public place to meet for a date.

Nice place to walk and chill. Prefer evenings or around sunset that way you don't need to stay in the shades. There's bikes you can rent as well. There's ducks so if you want maybe bring breads and you can feed and stay close to them.

We could have spent all afternoon here! The playground was so fun for littles and my son especially loved the Play 60 challenge course. The train was cool to look at, but didn’t have much inside. The lake was beautiful and had a great walking trail.

The playground was really fun! They have an old train engine for the kids to play in and walking trails for the adults. It abuts the nature museum which is really cool.

I’ve been here several times through the years with friends & family... Always a great visit... Festivals, wedding, taking photos for special occasions, walking through the park, & more.

I love this place, especially during the annual Festival in the Park! Freedom is a beautiful and large park, with water features and lots of paths to run/walk on. Great place to take your pets as well, and it’s very clean.

Came here with my wife and 1 yr old granddaughter to spend a few hours while mom took care of important business.
This place is beautifully designed and spacious! It sports a beautiful walking path, a large pond, rolling hills, lush lawns, and old-growth shade trees. We could easily have found a cozy spot to picnic, read a book, toss a frisbee, go fishing, go jogging, taken nature photos, or … all of the above.
Parking can be tricky to find, but worth the walk. Highly recommended whether you have one hour or all day.

We expend a nice morning. We walked around the park. The ambient was so quiet. They are different ambients.

One of the nicest city parks I have seen. Very clean and grounds are beautiful. Perfect place to walk and unwind or picnic.

So much to do there from walking your dog, to watching the ducks, to fishing. Playgrounds for the kids and even a museum. Lots of walking trails and bike trails

Great walking spot and interesting folks abound. Picnic shelters recently renovated so you can take a meal there...Dog friendly.

Even though it was 90 when I visited, I’m so happy that I did! This picturesque park is definitely worth it. You can walk, run or rent bikes to explore. You can do a loop around the beautiful pond, or explore the shaded trails outside of the pond as well. Bring a picnic lunch, a book, and enjoy the great outdoors!

I had seen photos of this great escape and wondered if it was worth seeing. After going, all I have to say is, check it out! Go for a run, a hike, a play date with the kids, a walk with the dogs, or whatever you fancy. Enjoy your time!

The park seems to be the favorite location for the locals on Sunday, the place is busy and lively. You can spend a couple of hours here, relaxing and enjoying nature. If you can resist the heat and the humidity of Charlotte in the summer, that is :-)

Just missing a playground for younger kids with swings and slides.. If there is one I apologize, I just havent seen one.

Good relaxation from busy city life. Great to take kids around even in a bit cold weather to run around and watch the fountains. I have been here in all seasons and loved the park.

Freedom Park is a nice escape from the hustle of the city. There are easy trails. Beautiful landscaping. Water interests.

I am a baby boomer who has lived in Charlotte all my life. As a child I remember coming here with my parents. Public parks were rare then and visits always special. As a teen I remember coming here as a date venue and walking around the pond with my sweetie. As parents we brought our kids here and now as grandparents we bring the grandkids. There is water, music (check schedule), fishing, festivals, tennis, playgrounds, ball fields, you name it. And it sits in a beautiful part of town.

Beautiful park to walk and enjoy the outdoors. You can explore it on foot, by bike... there are many who bring their pets. It must be even prettier in spring.

This park is HUGE and so peaceful. I am from Georgia and my city could NEVER have such a beautiful park where people respect others spaces and aren’t constantly blaring inappropriate music.
The playgrounds are HUGE, plus there’s baseball fields, tennis court, batting cages, basketball court, volleyball court, and a walking trail around a lake. Plus you can rent electric bikes!
I loved all the monuments. There was also benches and picnic tables all over the place where you could sit and relax. The trees gave perfect shade! This is the absolute best park I’ve ever been to! AND, there wasn’t geese dung all over the place like in GA!

Quick trip after church, lovely park, great for everyone, lots to do for families, loads of parking, worth a visit.

This is a good park a lot of room nice lake with plenty of parking, however the duck poo (feces) is everywhere you can not walk a mile with out stepping into it. it is everywhere.More poo then ducks. You better watch out....

I played tennis here for the first time - what a beautiful spot once you find the courts (they are accessed via the East Blvd entrance, not Princeton which is where your GPS will likely send you. Easy parking and bathrooms close by. This was my first time at Freedom Park in 17 years in Charlotte - I look forward to going there again to explore further!

I love this place, full of life, full of beauty and the local trails are fun too. This park has received additions to the children's play grounds which are nice. And the walking trails and the loop around the lake are always lovely. Festival in the Park is here every fall for different media arts and crafts.

There’s something to do for everyone! Fish, walk, bike, music, picnic, people watch....it’s up to you. Just get out and enjoy this beauty!

We timed this perfectly while in Charlotte. Found the festival while driving and looking for things to do. The Park has NO public parking so you need to park on the road on the side streets. Prices were average for this type of festival. No alcohol is served.

This park had a large pond with a beautiful fountain, trails, beautiful landscaping, wildlife and ball fields, soccer fields, and jungle gym/swings for kids. It has something for everyone. Park is well kept and clean.

If you are looking for fun and excitement this is the place to go. My three granddaughters will not come to visit unless I promise to take them to the "PARK". Once they get tired of the Train Engine it is full time on the swings and climbing apparatus.

So clean and inviting. We walked around and enjoyed for hours? Many benches and areas in the shade to fully enjoy all of its offerings.

We visited Freedom Park last weekend. We are a family of five with three kids under 10. We packed our bikes, scooters, football, soccer ball, and a picnic. We did it all! While this park will not win awards from landscape designers and conservation groups, it was a fantastic oasis for our kids to explore and be carefree. We are going back tomorrow.

Had the park basically to ourselves on a beautiful rainy day. Very clean park. Met a fisherman there that caught a catfish and spoke of the cleanliness of the water and multitude of different species in the lake.

When we first moved here in 2007 I would have said that Freedom Park was a nice but average Park. In the past two years there have been many upgrades made to the park.
Sample the inclusions of the Panthers football area in one corner of the park is something the kids just die for. One part of it that they particularly enjoy is where you can reach someone else and it will time your race for you.
There's a beautiful area to walk around the pond but there's also the upgraded area for the children to play at where there is something for every age up until about 14 or 15 years old.
What some people don't know especially if you're new to Charlotte is that many of the Mecklenburg County walking trails lead to Freedom Park. Also convenient are some of the restaurants close by that are walkable from the park.

Freedom Park: a great name for a family friendly activity.Walk, jog ,ride bike, throw frisbee, pet friendly, a great location for wine and cheese while enjoying the outside elements.
For the young toddlers, there is a separate play area. For the sports enthusiasts there are several fields
Enjoy festivities year-round like Festival In The Park.

My boyfriend and I came here on our first date and continue to come back. It's a nice, quiet, relaxing area to hang out, lay on a blanket, talk, read, or have a picnic on the grass by the water. There are a few good restaurants nearby if you get hungry too.

Lots of places for children to run, also areas for them to clime and explore while exhausting themselves out. This is also a great place to either take a leisurely stroll, enjoy the ducks, or get your jog or run on.

The park is nice , but could be better. It has a lot for you to do, open spaces and places for small children, adults, cycling, and fishing. you can reserve areas for your use, watch a concert, play ball or just walk around the lake. Some areas are well kept and some could use a lot of attention,(the lake area and the walkway around the lake where the ducks hang out).

Had very fun playgrounds for the kids to play at, a train to explore and paths and a lake to walk/hike along. Stroller friendly. Also has beautiful locations and bridges to use in a little photo shoot.

Strolling around the lake is the best remedy for a stressful day! There are always folks from the neighborhood walking their dogs, playing with the kids on the ball fields, just relaxing in the wide expanses of grassy areas. LOVE THIS PARK!

One of Charlotte's older parks is still a nice place to take a walk, jog, run, or bike around the large pond which has an impressive bandshell amphitheater. Plenty of stuff for kids on the other side of the park, along with baseball and soccer fields.

What a great park! The lake and greenway great for walking around. The children's play ground, wonderful for toddlers to preteens. The tennis courts, soccer, volleyball and baseball friends great for organized sports teams or pick up games. Kids love the old train! The Nature Museum is wonderful for young children. Great hands on experience.

Brought 2 13 yo's because on line it had the Panthers play 60 area. This are was definitely for little kids. Not much for the older ones.

So much fun and a great place to visit on a beautiful day. I would recommend renting a "b-cycle" to ride around the park and then hit the little sugar creek greenway!

The lake just makes it extra especial but you also have a walk next to the lake where we got to see the wild life in the area.

This was a great park to experience on my first visit to Charlotte. I have two small kids and they lived the play grounds, seems like many other had the same idea thou as it was packed. They even had an ninja warrior obstacle course for kids. There is lots of room to spread out though and the park has bikes you can rent to ride around; $5 per 30 mins. You can take a ride around the lake or even in the surrounding neighborhood. I brought my kids' bikes and rented a bike to ride with them. They have soccer fields and tennis courts for use if not being used by leagues. Highly recommend at times when less likely to be busy.

Great park. They have the main playground that has a lot of slides and climbing opportunities. There is also about 10 swings and a “fitness challenge” area. The park is actually HUGE with a ton of options for volleyball, softball/baseball, and trails for running/walking. Highly recommended.

Great place to do just about anything you want ... walk, watch people, relax. There is music scheduled from time to time, which is a great venue and the sound is amazing. Walking around the lake is very calming. Kids love the playground area, and there are fields for softball, courts for tennis, trails through the wooded areas ... just about anything you want for a great day outdoors. Dog and kid friendly!

Freedom Park is really a great park. The lake in the park and the fountain makes up for a great visit. You can find rental bikes which is so much fun.

I had a friend come to Charlotte and was showing them around. We stopped at Freedom Park on a really nice afternoon. It's a great place to people watch. The facilities are clean as well as the grounds. The greenway into the city is amazing. You can rent bikes if you like. There are plenty of things to do for people of all ages. Definitely worth a stroll on a nice day.

Wanted to take pictures of the park, so we spent about an hour walking around it in a leisurely stroll. Very pretty park. Bring a picnic basket if you have time.

I have been coming here since 1970, first as a kid, then with my own kids. It's a nice sized lake to walk around, lots of ducks and geese. There is a hill on one side of the lake where you can spread a blanket and have a picnic as well as picnic tables. We used to sit on the hill in the summertime and listen to bands that would play in the shelter. It has a nice playground and we used to climb on a retired locomotive.( not sure if it's still there). And there is a ball field. There is an annual festival in September with lots of music, local artists, great fair type food and trinkets to buy.

Freedom Park has been Charlotte's' epicenter for family fun...from great concerts to the annual Festival in the Park...it always delivers peaceful and fun experiences...one of the top ten places to spend time in Charlotte...

This lovely
lovely
lovely park is so many decades old but always a current commodity for communing with nature and people or yourself walking, running, skating, biking, or just chilling on the greens watching the clouds above and listening to the birds chirp as the water ripples by.
There are tennis courts and a train to play on also swing sets and different things you can do along with great facilities for water and using the restroom.
There is definitely plenty of ample parking.
This is a wonderful place for Solitude or socializing or family get-togethers or little group events.

Freedom park is a must! Whether you have children or not, this is a great park to visit! My family and I made it a half-day to get our fishing poles out and do some fishing. Freedom park is rated as one of the top lakes in the county. We were thoroughly impressed by the amenities in the park, the cleanliness of the park, and the diversity of people we saw enjoying a “warm (60 degree) winter day” in Charlotte. At different points of the day, each of us (including our two children) commented on how we should come back again. I highly recommend Freedom Park!
By the way... we caught three fish!

The park is so beautiful and peaceful! I took my dog and it was nice. So worth the stop while in Charlotte.

This is by far one of the most beautiful parks that I've been to. Lots of space to walk and ride bikes, and plenty of nice scenery to take in.

Freedom Park is my favorite in Charlotte. It's tranquil with a stunning lake to walk around. Plus the city has done lots of upgrades to the facilities which I appreciate. I highly recommend stopping by. Plus there's a long walking trail along the creek so enjoy that too!

Great family fun with a scenic walking loop trail. Side trails are good as well. Compares to Jetton Park in Cornelius.

Did this on Black Friday Outside. Almost 100 acres, lake is 7 acres. Parked in the lot by the train engine, first lots seem to be for the sports fields. Great place for a picnic, a walk, etc. We did NOT do the Nature Museum as it was $8 per person.

Wow, what a BEAUTIFUL Park!!! Following Trip Advisor recommendations, I made a visit. I was glad I did. The paved pathway around the spacious Lake and Green-space. Makes a great place to walk around, picnic, get some exercise, and enjoy a beautiful day. Many amenities available. Freedom Park will stick out as one of my memorable visits in the Charlotte area. I highly recommend you make a visit.

A great place to get a reprieve from the hustle and noise of the city. I do a lot of walking for exercise and the park is a great place to get a few "nice" miles in. There are also some steps to run if you want to get a little burn going.
All around nice place.

Arrived after work for some fresh air. A couple of options to walk around the lake or on a wooded trail. Enjoyed the fresh air, lots of moms and people with dogs around so felt safe. Enjoyable find in the city!

Walking with the kids before the football game. We walked the lake several times and stopped at some food vendors. Nice park and relaxing time. Carolina lost the game but we will not blame it on the park.

Lots of grass and paved walkways. Attractive all ŷear round but especially in the spring and autumn. Just a shame that there isn't a cafe - missing out here.

This park was the highlight of my trip with the dogs! Took a nice walk, and the dogs got to enjoy the dog park!

This park is beautiful. There are so many trails and a really fun playground for the kids. It is very clean.

We enjoy this park fairly maintained lots of cement walking paths and greens to hang out on. It has a pond in the center which is ok just a bit dirty from the ducks and all. Still all in all one of the better parks to visit in Charlotte

Freedom Park is connected along the Sugar Creek Greenway and accessable from East Blvd. Near the parking area are several little league baseball fields, two large soccer fields, two separate sets of tennis courts, sand beach volleyball courts, and a large childrens playground complete with an old train engine. Cross the bridge and walk to the large duck pond with walkway all around the waters edge. Beautiful.

Beautiful lake with so much foliage around. Happy people of all ages all around. One of the highlights of my visit to Charlotte.

This is a very nice park. It is in close walking distance to our house. On weekends or after normal work hours when the weather is nice, this place gets really crowded. If your thing is being around people, that's not an issue. The play areas for kids are really nice, especially the ones by the soccer fields.

We love spending Sunday afternoons at Freedom Park occasionally. I thought the kids had outgrown the playground area but they added a Panthers-themed fitness play area for older school aged children and they love it! The park amenities offer such a wide variety of activities that we are always able to keep our children occupied or we can just enjoy nature as we relax by the lake. It's family oriented and our children usually make friends easily with the other children in the play area. It is a multi-cultural environment which I love and think is ideal for children. It is scenic, the lake is lined with beautiful trees and foliage. There are tennis courts and other athletic fields available. There is even a walking trail and Nature Reserve. It can be kind of busy on the weekends so if you're looking for a peaceful, serene and exclusive place to relax this would not be ideal. If you enjoy being out in the open around lots of people and activity then you would enjoy Freedom Park.

It's located in our neighborhood at South Park. We walk and ride our bicycles around it often. Very nice!

Been coming to Freedom Park for 35+ years since I grew up in Dilworth. Now I get to share this place with my kids. They have made a lot of improvements since when I last lived in Charlotte. They have updated the playgrounds to the modern industrial sets replacing the old wooden ones. They have taken out the plane, tank, and rocket fixtures, but they did leave the train. They have also put in a Carolina Panthers play area, which my boys LOVE! They have new updated volleyball, tennis, baseball, soccer, and basketball courts. Looks like Mecklenburg Parks & Recreation have decided to make For a priority, which is great for a whole new generation to come.

Beautiful park-loved walking around the pond-nice trails-kid loved the poke stops and pokemons he caught!

We had 2 reasons to go out to Freedom Park.
Birthday for our friend Kenny and this was the last Jazz concert of the summer season.
We brought our own food and drinks. Listened to Great music. A awesome time indeed for a Saturday evening.

We visit here daily. This is such a great park- 2 separate playgrounds- volleyball courts. The small pond in the middle is beautiful and park and facilities are super well maintained. Great place for picnics, walks, running.

I was really in love with this place. Very beautiful! It looks like postcard photos or pictures, so beautiful! I was able to park next to the children's playground (for free), pay nothing to enter the park, it's very big with beautiful trees, a huge lake ... well worth the visit for sure!

Beautiful local park to walk through. During our visit the water was full of algae. Still pretty. Benches available to sit.

I love this park. We go here for picnics and outings with friends. The water view is just so beautiful to me. You can get a nice workout waling around the fountain. Must check it out!

Go take a walk on Hermitage, Ardsley Streets instead. Beautiful homes on lovely landscaped properties.

This is one of the best parks in Charlotte, NC! They have a nice play area for kids and nice trees to hang your hammock! Its also a nice place to have a wedding as well. My family and I go here often.

The park is nice, but it takes a total of 20-30 minutes to do. The loop around the pond is nice for strolling, not really a biking path and only about 1/2 mile long. No big deal overall.

This is a nice place to go to get away from home and b with the family nice place to walk ure dog an c some ducks an more

The park is great for everyone that enjoys being outdoor. Great place to take your kids and dogs. There is a large playground area for children and plenty of walking trails to take a stroll with your furry friends, jog, bike ride or whatever you may enjoy. There are drinking stations throughout the park to refresh. Everything is very well maintained and it is very clean. Definitely always a good time for the whole family.

I stared out reading a book. Then off for relaxing and easy walk around a pond. There are bathrooms.

This is a really nice park and has some awesome festivals like "Art if the Park". Get out your walking shoes and enjoy the large area this parks covers. Good walking trek or jogging.

There is a trail in the wooded area on the side of the park, there is a bathroom, a vendor selling cold water and a tiny lake to walk around. Festival in the park is the art fair to keep you creative in the fall, bands play at night, I feel safe and I visit in all seasons. Located near east Blvd, you can walk out that entrance and up the street to get good or find a bar. This well kept park has been a treasure to have outings, under the wooden shelters, or just a little run through. The nature museum is right next door too.

This is a beautiful park. You can stroll around, hit the playground or bike. There are shows during the summer and a lot of people were out there taking pictures some family portraits and Christmas pictures. I really liked walking alone the pond.

I go to my nephew's games a lot here. My kids love it and it is one of their favorite parks. The only thing is that there is a good bit of traffic. Getting in and out can sometimes be difficult.

This has been my park of choice since childhood, and some things never change. It has charm, and is still peaceful despite growing population. The festival in the park is a necessity every year and always has art and local artists displayed.

We like going to the Festival in The Park in the early fall. Lots of vendors with handicrafts of all kinds encircle the lake. There are food vendors of all kinds of 'fair food'. It's a nice afternoon, when the weather is nice...

Great place to enjoy a walk and kids playing and rolling around on the hills. Small kids nature museum great park, big and room for everyone.

i have worked Uptown for 3 years and also live nearby and have never realized how pretty this park is. it can be a peaceful place to visit and sit quietly. its also a rambunctious place sometimes as host to protests, festivals, etc. but never feels unsafe. watch out for the swans...they arent usually in a cuddly mood.

We visited this park while visiting Charlotte. It had your standard park features like swings and playground type equipment. But it also had what is called Play 60 which is a timed obstacle or training course funded by Lowe’s and Carolina Panthers. This is really nice! My teenage boys enjoyed this a lot as well as the sprint practice area that times their sprint runs. The only complaint we had there were little toddlers, strollers and people sitting on the equipment so you couldn’t do the course until they left. Then more would come. One lady kept coming and shooing them off so kids could use the course. There is plenty of play equipment for the young ones if that this area could left as intended for older kids and adults. There is an old steam engine that you can check out and lots of room to run, walk, bike and exercise. The play equipment and areas are clean spacious. The restrooms are easily accessible as well.

First time here and it was really pretty. The trails are really nice and shady. The parks are very nice for children and they even have a old steam engine from 1920 (pictures) you can go inside it. The park it's self felt very safe lots of families around. It even has a big pond and if you have a fishing license you can fish. Would go back again when in the area.

So peaceful in the middle of what can be a chaotic city. Love it here. Running...bike rentals...plenty to do, or just relax on the hill and read a book.

On the route of the Sugar Creek Greenway this park is recreational delight. There’s something going on no matter where you look. Kids, ducks, bicycles and volleyballs abound. Walking distance. To East Boulevard eateries and businesses. Ample parking and well policed.

Went here on a whim, and we loved it! It is very clean and they have a lot of grass area to sit for picnic and relaxing. If you want to ride bike they also have a bike rental machine.

The host Festival in the Park here each year and it is wonderful walking around enjoying all the items each vendor has to offer. The park itself is rather large with nice walking trails and they offer bike rentals as well.

My kids and wife love this place it is very open so almost never crowded during the week. There seems to be little to no crime ever.

The heart of this park is a large lake, surrounded by a great area for walking, biking, picnicking, and skating. Lots of people walk their dogs here and bring their kids to play on the play equipment and the old train engine. There are fields for baseball, soccer, and other sports. Each Fall, Festival in the Park offers booths around the lake full of juried arts and crafts and delicious food. There are stages set up for entertainment and well-known local musicians perform in the bandshell in the center of the lake.

Very beautiful place. Me and my fiance took our engagement pictures here.Very nice scenery. The museum is also a must see, especially if you have younger kids

I've long been a fan of Charlotte's parks and recreation focus. Freedom Park is a chief example of metropolitan integration of city life and life outdoors. Many people come on their lunch break just to watch the ducks, or relax by the stream. I love to go in the afternoon or early evening--on a day off, or when my work for the day is done. There is a long walking/biking trail that runs around the main body of water and throughout the park. I enjoy spending time playing guitar, practicing yoga, or hula hooping on one of the flat areas on the graduated hill that faces a stage in the amphitheater-like area. When it comes to experiencing peace and tranquility in a public setting, Freedom Park is among the very best options!

Freedom Park is an expansive natural wonderland offering something for everyone. We visited with toddlers, and they were spellbound by the praygrounds ... Swings, slides, climbing ropes, and more. An added bonus is being able to go into the cab of a retired steam locomotive. There is a nice restroom building next to the playgrounds, baseball fields, a basketball area, an extensive walking trail, and plenty more. Highly recommend.

This park is the Biggest park in Charlotte and it also has many activities year round. We usually go more often when my son was smaller but he's a teen now. Festival in the fall is really nice. The playground is big and really busy most times. It's really nice to walk around the park. I also like to play tennis and Volleyball there as well. Definitely recommended for everyone with young kid(s). And also for the enjoyment of walking and relaxing around the park.

Freedom park is a fun family picnic spot. You can walk, jog, bike and play around the vast expanses of grass. Some very nice locations for nature photo enthusiasts. The park is clean and per-friendly.

This park is just what it says. It is a park. The walks are paved or well established. It you are a couple looking for a nice and maybe romantic walk this could fit the bill. Warmer months are the best time. It really is a nice place to stroll.

I visited my friend in Charlotte. After visiting this wonderful city for a whole day, my friend took me to this park for a stroll. Peaceful and there's something to do for everyone : hike, stroll, walk the dog, run, play with the kids or just enjoy the outdoors.

I live in Charlotte NC so I have had the opportunity to visit Freedom Park on several occasions! I have been there with my kids just to walk the trail and watch them play in the playground and been to some nice cook outs too! I love to see the live entertainment that they sometimes have at the Amphitheater!

Freedom Park is tranquil, BEAUTIFUL and very safe. Sitting by the lake or having a picnic there is a must do. It is easily accessible whether you are walking, in a car or on a bicycle. This past spring the lake in the center had mother ducks with all the baby ducklings following her. It feels like you are miles away from the hustle of the city, when in fact you are in the heart of Charlotte's most beautiful neighborhoods, Myers Park, Dilworth, South End and South Park.
The trails are safe for walking or cycling, the events held in the park are truly a lot of fun, and safe, easy to get in and out of and most of all Freedom Park is VERY VERY CLEAN!!!

The wonderful thing about the park is not just the playground, lake, trees, and tennis courts, but the fact that it is on the Greenway. You can walk or bike from mid-town to the Nature Museum by taking the Greenway to and through the park. It is really a wonderful asset for the city.

Charlotte is my hometown took a friend on a early morning tour of Dilworth and Myers Park ended up at Freedom Park to conclude. Great memories poured out of me as I shared.

In the middle of town. Was very crowded the day after Thanksgiving but will definitely return when it's not so busy and when I come back to Charlotte. So many things to do that there's something for everyone.

An enjoyable walk through this well maintained park with ample seating areas along the creek and canal. Great for exercise, outdoor activities or relaxing within the city.

I was there during last week of August 2016 - on my recent trip to NC -Charlotte. The serenity of this place is quite amazing and refreshing to the mind & soul alike.

Very large park with something for all the different ages.
We rented bikes from bcycle right in the park and rode them around. I was impressed that the seats lower enough that my 10 year old was able to ride it.
There is a Play60 playground that kept my 16, 12 and 10 year old very happy.
There is also a playground for younger kiddos as well.
We enjoyed sitting in the grass by the amphitheater eating a popsicle from the vendor that was set up.
We walked the bridge to the wilderness museum but it closed early and we weren’t able to go in. Still it was a pretty walk.
We saw many dogs and hammocks. It seems like a very well maintained and loved park.
Many people had picnics and bikes and kids on scooters.
Get outdoors and explore this gem of a park.

This is a nice small park that has a lake. It's nothing out of the ordinary. However, I did like the 1920 locomotive they had which was neat to see and get little bit of the history in the area.

We took a walk through the park while visiting the area. We enjoyed walking around the lake, and I was particularly interested in the monument for WWII veterans of the CBI Theater. My dad served in the China-Burma-India Theater, and it was great to see those service people recognized as you don't hear about it very often.

I've been going to Freedom Park all of my 56 years of life. I've seen it grow over the years. My favorite time to go is during Festival in the Park. It brings back childhood memories for me. It's clean and safe.

Every time we come to Charlotte, NC we always visit Freedom Park, it is such a beautiful, peaceful park.
If you want to spend several hours in a quiet, beautiful park within the busy city, I highly recommend this place.

This little park is nothing but an oasis in the middle of the city! Loved walking through it and watching the sunset from there. This is something that should not be missed when visiting Raleigh! Absolutely gorgeous!

On a warm, sunny Fall day this was a beautiful place to enjoy the season and the changing colors. We strolled around the lake--and it was wheelchair accessible. Beautiful heron flew in.

Gorgeous park for outdoor activities where you can rent bikes to ride on the trail. Excellent scenery for photos as well. Overall very pleasant experience.

Very relaxing and peaceful. Nice walking and bike riding trails. Good activities for kids and adults. felt safe.

I recommend going to freedom.park it has such a beautiful old world feel to it. With its covered walk ways. To it's beautiful amphitheatre.

Small lake, meandering paved paths, stone bridge, fountains, soccer fields, green space, grills, picnic tables, even a timer to see how fast you are in a 20 yard dash! We loved it and visited twice during our stay in Charlotte! Bonus: the greenway goes right thru the park! Ride a bike from your hotel downtown to the park!

This is a must see. The park is beautiful and was filled with people exercising and enjoying nature. We went for a walk after our dinner and loved the bridge and pond.

This park is so beautiful. It is perfect to casually walk around or use to exercise. Also great to have a couple's picnic or sunbathe...whatever you may desire.

Awesome to walk around and look at everything. The fountain is so cool & love the scenery. Great place to take pictures! Will definitely go back again!

I was only in Charlotte for about 1.5 days and was looking for something enjoyable and relaxing to do on a Saturday afternoon. Freedom Park filled that bill perfectly. The park was large but not overwhelming. It was busy but not overcrowded. Sporting events were going on, kids were playing, people were sitting out in the grass, sitting on benches, strolling around, bicycling, walking their dogs and just generally having a nice time. Every city should have parks like this for their community.

The park can be reached even by Public transport from CTC by CATS through Bus no: 6 Kings drive. The park has huge area with many facility for sports. It has many Kid's game near the Demonstration Park. The approach from the entrance can be walk by 15 to 25 minutes. Worth to see with kids.

Freedom Park is a magnificent park, with lots to offer. We went today to get in a good walk with the dogs around the pond, and to let the kids get some of their energy out by playing on the playground for a little bit. They've got lots more than that though. You can rent bicycles from a rental station, there is a large outdoor amphitheatre for live music, lots of benches and big shade trees...plenty of room to toss a frisbee with your dog. There is also a great area that is sponsored by the Panthers that offers children the opportunity to do the 40 yard dash and other combine-like drills. It's a great place to rent a shelter for an outdoor gathering, and there are sand volleyball courts along with basketball, soccer, and baseball fields as well. You could easily spend an entire day here and there's lots of great places to eat nearby. Easily, Charlotte's best park.

It’s not so big but very peaceful to walk around for relaxation - just a few minutes of driving takes you to such a quiet park!

This is a beautiful park to run or just take a relaxing walk. The walking trails and paths are very well taken care of. Unfortunately, we were there on Monday therefore missed the musical performance in the park pavilion scheduled for the weekend.

This is a very nice park, with a lake, in an upmarket area. We were visitors to the area. We walked around it and enjoyed it. Good sized car park.

Really amazing and beautiful park in the area. Folks love to go and walk around the fountain and lake area. There's also bridges.

Something for everyone here. Beautiful foot bridge and pond to walk or read around. Picnic areas. Big playground, old train you can explore, and the Panthers obstacle course is fun for all!

We went on a perfect spring day and made full use of the weather! Beautiful scenes all around -This place has it all- picnic benches , trails for kids and the big STEM play area! Picked wild flowers, had a picnic, played ball and walked around the beautiful lake! Great for pets too...& a lot photo opps 😊! A great place for Family fun where you get to relax and soak in the atmosphere!

Beautiful!so peaceful, makes you smile every time you think of it! Difficult to believe it is so close to the city. There are not enough adjectives to describe it adequately. Do yourself a favor and visit.

This park is a part of my family history. When you get their you may recognize it. The park has been in many movies. One I can name off hand is Shallow Hal.

My second visit here. This time I parked by the lake and walked around it with my son's dog. We both had a great time! Many of the leaves on the trees were in their fall glory. It's a wonderful place to spend time alone or with family.

Get a bike, do a couple rounds. Beautiful place to relax. Perfect place for some street artists, we missed them. Take a book with you, sit down and just enjoy.

We have gone there several times and it is a pretty park. Not tons to do but my teenager says there are a great deal of Pokémon stops and gyms so he and his friends often go to walk around the park. There are plenty of spots to sit and enjoy the beauty of the park and just relax. It is also not too big so you can easily walk or jog around the park.

Very beautiful. The water fountains are very pretty. It’s a big and beautiful park. The little sugar creek greenway is right next to it. Worth seeing. It is very scenic and perfect spot for a picnic.

The park is really outdated but family friendly. It could really use an upgrade in the park area. It would be nice if they could add more family shelters, picnic areas around the lake.

Beautiful park. So much to do: circle the lake, hop on the greenway, visit the nature museum, watch a concert, visit a festival, play on the many playgrounds, play on the sports fields, have a family BBQ, etc, etc.

Beautifully kept park with nice ponds and rivers. Lots of shade for hot days. Good escape from the city.

Freedom Park was pretty neat. Very nice playground and a Play 60 kid zone/obstacle course put in by the Carolina Panthers. Plenty of paved walking trails and a sports complex with basketball courts, ball fields, tennis/volleyball courts, etc.

We had an interesting visit here but at the time there were heavy rains three days prior and there were a good deal of flooding. We originally were going to take our bikes but decided just to walk the 7 or so miles round trip. Good afternoon walk with a good deal of animal contact.

People in Charlotte are lucky to have such a large, beautiful park so close to downtown. I was in town visiting for the day and needed somewhere to walk off a big lunch. Clean and well taken care of, lots of people walking dogs or getting the kids out to play. Connects up with the greenway trail and would make a great combo. There are bikes to rent if you’d rather ride than walk.

We visied the park with my daughter and grand children. Nice place walk around but it would be more attractive in the spring. Worth The time spend on relaxing.

This place is so worth it! Gorgeous trees, beautiful creek and amazing trails. Walked through this stunning place and never wanted to leave.

Trails to walk, lots of shade, beautiful views. This is great for kids and families. Sometimes, it can be busy, so if you have more than one kiddo, plan to stay busy.

We had a great time visiting Freedom Park. There's lots to do there and the kids had a great time. The obstacle course was a high point for my kids and we also enjoyed the playground, a picnic at one of the picnic tables, and a walk around the "lake." Great to keep kids entertained for a few hours.

It is huge, full of diverse people, lots of dogs (on leash), lovely landscaping, and if you are in town the third September of the month partake of Festival in the Park, with an array of artist wares and lots of fun fair food.

Although parking can be a challenge at times, This a great and beautiful place to visit. the park is clean, family friendly and a great place to spend some "wind down and relax"time

Centrally located , decent trails for bikes & runners. Sugar Creek parkway runs through it. Watch out for dog poo as Charlotte's dog owners are notoriously SLACk in taking care of the droppings.

Freedom Park has something for everyone... there are athletic fields... soccer, basketball, baseball & tennis, volleyball nets, Play360 for the younger set, along with swings, and play gyms, and an old favorite... the locomotive. Walkways and trails for the walkers, skaters, bikers and naturalists.

This park was really nice. We went because it was listed under botanical gardens. It would probably be considered that when the temperature is warmer. The trail was great for our stroll.

Freedom Park is such a wonderful park to visit. When I go there, I get a peace of mind and it's relaxing. It is people and dog friendly.

We've lived in Charlotte 21 years and finally visited a Freedom Park. A great place to walk. There are bikes for rent and hammocks to nap in. A very sweet little spot in the middle of the city. Visited the Nature Museum. Very nice for young children.

Huge park with small lake, plenty of walking and jogging paths, plenty of space for pets and kites and kids to have fun. Lots of events held in the park. A great place for a picturesque walk.

Whether you want to ride bikes, lay by the lake or toss around a ball Freedom park is a beautiful place to spend the afternoon. We had a picnic and relaxed in the park while the kids played.

Freedom Park is great place to visit. Close to downtown. Great play areas for kids, ball fields for little league soccer, lacrosse and baseball. Easy to run few laps around the lake. Nature museum next to the park is small but nice diversion. Greenway trail that runs through the woods and then down to Park Road shopping center is well maintained. Not sure what the people fishing in the park are catching. Heard that lots of goldfish have been let loose in the pond over the years.

So much to see and do. A walk around the lake. Playing in one of the ball fields or playgrounds, a place to relax and read a book or just take in some sun and people watch... one of my favorite placed to take my out of town guest.

My husband and I went to the park this summer because there was a free concert. We walked around the park and found out how huge it was. The stage area is beautiful with a little bay area, which is cute enough to have a park wedding. The bathroom area was very clear for such a large public event happening. There is a really cool play area for children to run around and swing slide through a ship. Want to have a family barbeque, bring them to this park there's plenty of parking.

What a great park in the middle of beautiful homes. there is a beautiful pond to walk around and other areas of the park to enjoy. They have public bathrooms and many weekends there are activities or an event.

This is one of the city's best destination for a peaceful walk around the beautiful lake and there are so many activities during the year that you can visit😔, I especially like the arts in the park weekend

Beautiful scenery, a decent size park to walk through and capture beautiful pictures, as well as rent a yellow or lime bike. The yellow or lime bikes are parked through out the park and can be rented by using the app Ofo. It's an easy to use app, and your first week is free. You can cancel your subscription after your ride. Beautiful for couples, friends, and has a playground for children. Also, has small areas to have picnics and cookouts.

This has been a sanctuary for me and my son and by far our happy place in Charlotte. It’s not Disney World as we would like but it’s where we go to get away... it’s our happy place and half the fun is getting there!

Nice park and big. You can bring your dog and expend a nice time with family and / or friends. The weather was really nice the day that I went

There are so many benches and walking trails around a gorgeous body of water. There are tons of places for kids to play as well

This is an extremely beautiful medium size park in Uptown Charlotte. They should develop several similar ones throughout other areas of the city. It is indeed the best one in the city. Freedom Park somewhat reminds me of a very small version of Prospect Park in Brooklyn, which is also beautiful, and worth seeing if you ever visit NYC.

My wife and grandson & I visitid recently and attended Fesitaval in Park " I was very surprised on how nicely it was laid out in many ways . My wife grew up in Charlotte and it brought back a lot of memories . Very clean and welcoming . We will return in the near future .

This is always my go-to for lunch break walks or evening strolls. Its so beautiful and large enough to get a good run or walk in through.

We walked around the lake, very nice. Lots of people walking as well. We will definitely visit again for a picnic and outdoor games.

Our family had a great time at park. Definitely a must see. The views, the trails, the park, etc. So tranquil

The safety issue still is of concern, nighttime a BIG NO! My favorite attraction, the locomotive, is now enclosed by a fence.

This is a beautiful park. We went there with my bike club for a friends and family day and everyone had a great time. The other thing that I liked was there are a lot of amenities for all ages. The only reason that I gave them 4 stars is because of the grill situation. I would like it if they would let us bring charcoal grill they only let you bring propane.

A lovely walk around the water will definitely soothe the soul. In September a wonderful craft market and a must visit.

I grew up going to Freedom Park. I went as a little kid, as a teenager and now as an adult with my own kids. It's a beautiful well kept park. Perfect for all sorts of outings.

First visit this past weekend. Very nice park with amazing playground area for kids. The connections to the Sugar Creek Greenway are nice so you can really make an afternoon of the combination. Definitely crowded on a nice spring day, but wasn't horrible. Can't wait to go back.

Cute park in the middle of a fancy neighborhood, I recommend to rent a city bike and go around the area. Great place to relax and do sports.

Great place to have a stroll or play catch etc... There are bike rentals too, and parking is free. A lovely way to get some exercise and enjoy a beautiful facility for free.

We love to go to Freedom Park for the playgrounds or just to walk around the lake as a family. We haven't done any of the festivals there - I'm told they get quite crowded - but if you find yourself in the area definitely stop by!

I've been to many events in Freedom Park. The great thing is you an reserve a portion of the park for private events. The staff is very professional and helpful.

Freedom Park is absolutely the best park in downtown Charlotte.
It's amazing to run, walk, skate or just relax with friends. There are soccer and volley fields, football and baseball training areas. It's also equipped with BBQ grills and sharing bikes. Very suggested.

This place is HUGE! We’re talking 95 acres of walking, hiking, trails, biking, dog walking, event happenings, food vending, museum visiting, family goodness. Great to take family pics or engagement pics, beautiful scenery! Lots to see! Great for the dogs! Great for youngsters, toddlers, teenagers, Grandma and Grandpa, whoever! It’s gorgeous! Pay attention to where you park because getting lost is entirely possible because it’s soooo big. I just went to Festival in the Park this past weekend and there was sooooo much to see and do. Beautiful place, great family fun and pet friendly!

I really like to visit this park in the spring. The train engine is fun to play on as well as the swings. A walk around the lake is relaxing. Great place to visit.

I enjoy Freedom Park with my kids. The lake is a great place to walk or run when you are working out. My kids enjoy the Panther 60 Play area and the swings. The park is huge and there is a lot to do. Even if you go there to work out, you will not be bored. Freedom Park is a go to if you have kids.

During a road trip through North Carolina we stopped here to stretch our legs and we ended up staying longer than anticipated because the park was so relaxing and peaceful. The grounds are well kept and there were even several vendors within the park offering cool treats such as fresh squeezed lemonade, ice cream and snow cones.
Our kids enjoyed the NFL Play 60 area of the park that featured the Carolina Panthers.

Beautiful park to exercise or relax. They have beautiful paths that are great for walking, biking, running. It is always very clean and feels safe.

This park is huge! It has a little bit of everything. It's very clean and beautiful. I love the train!

We had a day layover in Charlotte and needed to destress, so we rented bikes here and took in the sights. There are lovely neighborhoods to bike through here and a Greenway path sans autos...very safe. The park also had a free jazz concert that Saturday night! All in all, Freedom Family Park was a score!

On a bright sunny day we took the #6 bus to the entrance of the Park. The grounds are very well cared for. There's a little pond. A bike share station. A band shell for performances. A great jungle gym play area with a decommissioned steam engine as part of the play area.
We walked around the pond and then took the Little Sugar Creek Greenway back to the city center. It is set below the roadway and has charming wooden bridges and tunnels. A good healthy workout.

Four adults visited this park while vacationing in Charlotte area. Very nice Park with beautiful flowers and horticulture. Very nice to walk around.

My sons, husband, and I really enjoyed our time here. Not only just walking around, but the playgrounds are awesome. The NFL play 60 area was super cool. We also like going on the train.

My teenager enjoyed all the activities they had at the Freedom Park. They especially liked the rope line.

Charlotte is plagued by few truly beautiful parks. Freedom park is as close as you can get to a nice park, but alas I find it covered in goose poop everywhere! They have picnic shelters which you can rent or just show up and use, which are adequate. You can spread blankets out on the grass as well, as long as you can avoid the aforementioned poop, and there is plenty of room to play ball/frisbee/etc.
One of the best things about Freedom Park is the neighborhood in which it is situated. Myers Park is beautiful- lovely homes with sidewalks and tree-lined streets. It's worth it to walk around outside of the park and away from pesky geese.

We have now taken the grandkids there twice and will certainly go again if we are in the vicinity. The park is well laid out with a lake, fountains, plenty of trees, well kept lawns and paths conducive to cycling, running, walking or even working out. Or you could just picnic in the shade. It also has wonderful play parks for the little ones and is dog friendly so there is something to do for everyone. Certainly a popular place with the locals who make use of the park extensively.

Wonderful tour guy, with lots of information, he had a lot of stories to tell us but always respected our history if United States. Well worth the money

Freedom Park is a beautiful place to go to relax, have family picnics or hold class reunions. It's surrounded by neighborhoods and is accessible with good parking.

Great location, but limited parking. Events at the park are fun. If you like to meet new people definitely go to Festival in the Park. Wonderful place to relax and exercise any day of the week.

We always bring visitors here. Very picturesque, safe, and relaxed. I love the playground next to the trail.

This is a lovely park, with a nice lake and beautiful fountain. I usually park my car at the Discovery Place Nature Museum and walk across the suspension bridge into the park. There is a nice loop around the lake (with lots of pokéstops for those interested). Restrooms are available near the baseball field, which is also a good place to park. I have never felt unsafe in Freedom Park.

My family and I visited Freedom Park yesterday to fly kites for Mother’s Day. WE HAD A BLAST!!! There wasn’t enough wind so we did a lot running...LOL! None of that mattered. We were in a BEAUTIFUL place together spending time with each other laughing and having fun. We got to the park around 7pm and there was still a nice crowd of people. It wasn’t overly crowded and there was plenty of room for the people who were having picnics, riding bikes, walking, running, fishing, or just sitting and talking. The seven of us had more than enough space to run around with our kites!! There were people of all ages and races just hanging out enjoying a nice Sunday afternoon and we were happy to be in the mix!!

Freedom Park is such a great park for Charlotte. Run around the couple mile long loop, bike the trails, play tennis or just sit and relax. Such a great spot in a great location with plenty always going on.

This park has been here for years and years. There was even a time that they had water skiers ski around the island. Great place to walk, ride bikes, watch kids play ball and just sit by the lake. Festival in the Park is always fun in September. Just had a family reunion there in June and it was an awesome place for that. Some folks even fish in the lake but I think I will pass on that option. While at the park be sure to check out the Nature Museum across the bridge. Great butterfly pavilion, variety of native NC animals and much more.

Great place to walk and relax.
Very good location, East Blvd, for eating.
Enjoy the water fowl and play tennis, too.

I came back fro a visit to Charlotte yesterday and was looking for something to do while in the City. Following the recommendations of TripAdvisor, I went to Freedom Park. I really enjoyed it. The layout of the park is family-friendly, couple-friendly, solo-friendly. It was such a pleasant experience. I was lucky that it was a sunny, warm day so I spent a good couple of hours walking around, clearing my head. My favorite part was the fountain. I would recommend going if you have already visited other spots in Charlotte. Just make sure you wear mosquito repellent and sun screen.

It's spacious and in the middle of a large city. Wathc out for goose poop. Just sayin'....There are lots of people on the weekend

Fun Playgrounds the kids can plays for hours, you found nature trails, playgrounds, make picnic, playground, river, small bridges, sand area, a big park, ride a byke

Nice sunny cool breezy day. My wife and I are seniors and decided to go for a walk In the park.parking was ok. Within minutes we were approached by a pan handler. Didn't feel safe at all.and left Immediately! Didn't see any law enforcement.
won't be back.

Freedom Park is like an oasis in the middle of Charlotte, away from the hustle and bustle of urban life. Large, well maintained grounds with a pond in the middle. It lies in the middle of the Little Sugar Creek Greenway, which provides the opportunity for a walk for 2 miles in either direction. I would say there are two main areas to the park. To the north their is a complex of baseball diamonds and soccer fields. To the sound the landscapes grounds with pond, picnic areas and open fields. Bustling and energetic on weekends. Really very nice.

Most beautiful park ive ever been to. There are several amenities such as: trail, side walk trail, grills, covering for events and celebration, amphitheatre, batting cages, rock wall, play ground, bike rentals. Lots of things to do for everyone.

We had a lovely stroll around the lake. Very laid back and beautiful. Lots of people around, fishing, doing yoga or just relaxing.

I enjoyed walking through this park in the morning. Safe park and well maintained. The lake was lovely and the fountains were nice too. Good number of ducks on the lake too.

Nice paved walkway around 7 acre lake. Very peaceful neighborhood and good place to walk dogs. Popular spot!

Great place to spend an afternoon and exploring beautiful homes just to the east of the lagoon. Easy walk from downtown on the connecting greenway.

Freedom Park is a very large park maintained by the city of Charlotte. The park has a large variety of activities including baseball/softball fields, volleyball courts, kids play areas, basketball courts, paved walking/biking trails, etc. The park also has restrooms which to our surprise were fairly clean when we visited. Perfect place for a family gathering or reunion, as they've got a few pavilions as well as an event center suitable for large groups.

Nice park, easy walking. Been here several times for festivals. It is quiet, so you don't realize that you are in the city, which is nice.

Perfect views and a great spot for a photo shoot to commemorate the trip. This park is quite large and there are additional trails to explore the area. It is amazing that a place this scenic is located so close to downtown Charlotte, and it really is a gem and a must see when in the city!

Freedom park has something for everyone, play equipment, walking paths, fishing spots, and sports fields! Lots of parking and clean and well kept!

Visited the park on my trip to Charlotte. Very nice experience, loved the sculptor and the water feature, Well worth a visit.

I wish we had a park like this. it is a great park. it is so nice no words can explain this so well. watching folks run/walk around this park. The park itself is rather large with nice walking trails and they offer bike rentals as well. we walked around and dream that our city would do this.

Freedom Park is such a gem! The kids enjoyed playing in the playground and the Panthers Training part. They spent hours!
The grounds were beautiful kept and it includes great hiking trails.

I have been walking to Freedom Park for my weekly
use of my Omron Pocket pedometer.I estimate a
10.000 step walk from my mid town condominium.
The large pond is now devoid of years of too many
pigeons and seasonal Canadian Geese, due to a
effective effort by city of Charlotte to discourage the
massive flock, that often left the sidewalks around
this park, quite polluted from bird droppings.
Cheers!! That is now all in the past, for at least the
past 8 years. I last walked with my visiting sister,
a serious hiker, to Freedom Park on Sunday July
2, 2017. It is often more crowded with singles, to
young couples, especially families with small
children, especially on weekends, but July 4th
2017 holiday, "the Freedom Park weekend patrons,
was 50% less, as, was city traffic, as many who
live in Charlotte flock to both the Carolina's Atlantic
beaches, or, the Blue Ridge Mtns on big national
holiday weekends. What I like about Freedom Park
is the many benches, some in complete shade, all
facing the rather large pond, with tame ducks, to
get a reprieve, from the mid town often intense
auto traffic, including zip codes around Freedom
Park. I also like the perception of safety at all
daylight hours, as many use a popular paved
trail to Freedom Park in Dilworth section of
Charlotte, to jog, to do fast paced walking, and even to ride their bicycles, for physical conditioning!
I also like the very large parking lot adjacent to this
place, if once chooses to drive, and, just walk around the all paved park, and/or, to get a towel,
and bask in the sunshine in Spring and Fall. The
only thing i do not like is the annual September
long annual weekend Festival, which draws a very
huge crowd of people.......yet...great for families, with children, and facilities, with a few BBQ grilles,
and picnic tables. Again, this Freedom Park has
been well maintained by the city of Charlotte since
I first discovered it as a child, in the mid 1960's !!!

Wonderful park with a nice playgorund, and small lake and a river running through it. Perfect spot for a picnic!

My husband and I enjoyed walking the trails in Freedom Park. We got lucky with mild February weather and wanted to be outside. We went twice. The Park was crowded on Sunday with so much acitivity in the game fields and at the playgrounds and walking the trail around the small lake. There was plenty of room for everyone! Plenty of parking, too. We returned on Tuesday to a much less crowded park and walked again. It's located in a beautiful neighborhood.

Freedom Park is a spectacular city park. It has excellent options for biking, walking, playing tennis, and working out. Love the Panthers-supported mini-playground area that is made for kids, but fun for adults. The park is absolutely beautiful. However, spray yourself down with mosquito repellent. They have very large mosquitos and chiggers all over the park. So, be sure to spray yourself down or you will suffer for weeks after a visit.

This park is extremely well kept. It's beautiful, peaceful, serene and dog friendly. Whether you are sitting by the pond, walking your dog or just relaxing...this park is definitely worth exploring. It's a very safe neighborhood and I highly recommend.

Walking from 7th to Freedom park is a great walk and on your return you can catch the trolley at 7th to eat at the Epicenter. Freedom park is beautifully kept park with a lake, outdoor theatre, bike rental, filled with activities and a must for everyone to enjoy.

The lake makes the place very special to walk around with friends and furry babies. There are hidden gems within the path that are perfect to sit and relax

A fun place for a walk, a picnic, or anything else - lots of folks of all ages walking dogs, riding bikes, and just hanging out.

This is a lovely park to go for a walk or run or to just hang out with your family. Very relaxing atmosphere in the park with a lot of activities to do.

We stopped here to eat a picnic lunch while driving toward Niagara Falls. This was a great park for eating, playing and had restrooms. Great break for all if us: ages 5-51.

This is a great park to stroll. They have a man made pond and an amphitheater . I've been there for festivals the only draw back is limited parking.

My whole family enjoys this park! We live 20-30 minutes away and drive over every weekend. The kids love the play area, my mom loves to sit under the giant trees and read, my brother loves to walk the dog or play basketball and I love that the whole family is happy!

Love this park!! Great for walking, skating, etc. Has it's own path around the lake and is attached to Charlotte Greenway! Also attached to Charlotte Nature Museum across a swinging bridge. Entertainment shelters and venue on grounds. Beautiful plants and playground. Ballfields! Festival in the Park!!!

We really enjoyed walking here around the pond on a summer afternoon. It was clean, with many ducks but not messy Canada geese.

The tears rolling down the cheeks of those who accepted Jesus...all ages and all races. The very last video and walking through the cross were very moving.

Very nice park - paved trails are nice for running/walking. Nice playground and grounds for various sports. Beautiful space in the city.

Spent the afternoon here with my family, brought a picnic lunch and just let me lil man burn off some energy!

I recommend this park. It's clean and has a lot of places to hang out and relax in the sun. There is a fantastic playground, many playing fields, tennis, and on the Little Sugar Creek Greenway.

Very nice green space, some interesting historical markers, walking/bike path around the lake, bike rentals

This is in the heart of neighborhoods and it is a very sweet park! We don’t have kids, so we just walked around the water and enjoyed looking at nearby houses! We live in San Diego, and we don’t have anything like this!

Sunday off from work in Charlotte (for the first time). Nice walk early in the morning. Kind people and lots of squirrels…

Head east down the Sugar Creek Greenway all the way to uptown without ever stepping foot on the street. Benches, water fountains, and restroom on the way. Head the other way and walk around the pond at Freedom Park. People and dog watch all you want. Great exercise. Awesome place to visit.

This park reminds me of Central Park of New York City. Has a lot of good trails for people of all ages to explore and is pet friendly.

Wonderfully landscaped and expansive park that has something for everyone. The massive state-of-the-art jungle gym was a big hit with my 4 year old, as was the full-size railroad steam engine parked next to it. Other attractions for older kids and adults included a wide range of swing sets, ball courts, a beautiful lake and stream with plenty of shade, and lots and lots of opportunities for bike riding or dog walking.
My only complaint was that the restrooms near the playground were a little small. We visited on the first nice day of spring, so the park was packed - this may have contributed to the long lines.

OUr kids love to go here. The playground is extensive. Even when the park is really crowded, there is room fro everyone to have fun. We love the obstacle course, too.

We enjoyed the colors of the changing trees, the serenity of the setting, the diversity of people walking, fishing, skateboarding, biking, jogging, taking family photos.
Looks like a nice place to listen to music too, cant wait to see the lineup for 2019.

Beautiful park, especially if you walk next to the creek and river that goes pass the park. Easy parking and nice views.

It's hard to not enjoy Freedom Park. From the festivals they have, to just hanging out w a picnic, walking your dog or rollerblading. Plenty of parking during non festival times.

Wonderful park that offers a little of everything for everybody of any age. Great for waking, running, biking or having a picnic

we dropped off one of our friends at the park and she walked the path all the way downtown to meet us. What a great green space and green corridor.

We need our green spaces like this! Wonderful lake in the middle with a walking path surrounding it. A bandstand for outdoor concerts, and amphitheater seating on the hillside. Great playground for kids, outstanding trails along the creek - you can even follow the creek all the way uptown. Such a variety of people, dog walkers, runners, walkers, moms kids, - movie setting material. Combine the park with the Nature Museum and you've got a great day!

Very tranquil and peaceful place enjoyed it scenic and kid-friendly! Would recommend it for a short while. There is a nature museum there too.

We visited Charlotte and were told this was a good free place to go for family fun, it did not disappoint. We had our daughters bike and we went around the pond a few times. We played on the swings and the playground, and had a picnic on one of the many picnic tables. It was a fun and relaxing outsing!

We were due to travel the next day and wanted to get in some walking.
Freedom Park gave us a nice venue to get some fresh air nice paths and interesting surroundings
Plenty of parking

The lake is significant with its ducks which came from Canada and never returned. The park is nice and comfortable for walks, playgrounds for children, and good for celebrations of birthdays and special events.

Spent a couple of hours in this park just slowly walking around and people watching, it’s very quaint and peaceful
Several groups of people exercising including a mum and toddler group which was nice to see and lots of people walking their dogs
Plenty of birds and squirrels to see, a good p-lace for a picnic

This is our favorite park in Charlotte! Has a pretty pond with a walking path , dog friendly. Playground, volleball, soccer fields, basketball courts. Wonderful for Sunday afternoon family time!

This is a very nice park in Downtown Charlotte. Great place for families and groups of friends. There are several shelters for BBQ. A great place to train or just walk around.

I live close to the park so we visit often. Not only is it fun to watch the ducks and turtles but if you venture over to one of the streams you may see beavers, otters, heron and other animals. A great place to exercise or have a picnic with the family.

Beautiful park. We took fall family photos here. A nice place with many people and things to do in nature.

I love Freedom Park - great Festival in September - lovely walks all year round. The lake could be cleaner, but it's always beautiful. The ducks and geese peacefully wade in the water. Great place for families and couples.

my visit to this park was quiet refreshing. I enjoyed the clean environment with cold air around the pond. It has variety of spots for kids, teens, friends, lovers, and adults.I will visit again.

Super nice park with a lot of space however it was very crowded on the day I visited. Folks were pretty good about staying distanced from one another. I was able to find a spot to toss a frisbee with my brother. I would definitely visit again on a nice warm day!

Lovely oasis in middle of lovely neighborhood. Great walk around the lake to unwind. Bathrooms, although clean downgraded review. A park for all— young, old, bikers, walkers and of course the dogs!
peaceful
love going here for my morning walk. its very peaceful and i can read my book while enjoying the fresh air
