Beautiful view

By Kieande |

From down below on the beach or up top at the light house it is a beautiful view. There is plenty to take pictures of from any angle. There is an amazing bridge, cute beach, birds, and of course the light house which is a hike a winding road.

Beautiful area

By LisaMNUSA |

The beach is very pretty. 1 mile round trip to see the lighthouse. Pay $5 in a machine. When we were leaving, a ranger was there to help with any questions.

A Oregon coast icon! God and man could not of made it more beautiful! A world class light house setting!

By Scott L |

If there was only one thing to do on the central Oregon coast, visiting here would be it! The light house is set on the spruce, fir bedecked basaltic headlands of Heceta Head @ 100 feet above the wild and beautiful Pacific! About 1000 feet shore ward is the gorgeous ca 1900 Victorian light keepers house. White picket fence included! As you proceed further down you are on the perfect cove beach. To the west, waves are crashing against the rocky fir bedecked headlands framing the quarter mile of sandy beach. On the southern end, a year round creek flows into the surf. Finally to top it off, if you look up the creek, then look up @ 200 feet, you will see a most beautifully designed Roman arch Hwy 101 bridge and a classic Stone surface Hwy tunnel! Now spoiler alert! There is so much more to see on this part of the Oregon coast! Enjoy! :)

Absolutely worth a visit

By tim w |

If you find lighthouses interesting you'll want to stop here. We passed through on a vacation a week ago. There is a $5 fee to park and take the short walk up to the lighthouse. Obviously the view is terrific. There is another trail from the lighthouse which connects to the coastal trail if you want a different perspective. We did not do the tour but there was a volunteer who was very informative. The beach below is nice as well.

Best on the coast!

By Jaine T |

Many have said they have had encounters with "spirits". Mainly lighthouse keepers. Her name is Rue. Choose to believe or not?

Must see!

By WildHaireAdventures |

Stopped by the Heceta Head Lighthouse while in the area and really enjoyed it. There was ample parking when we visited with a $5 use fee. The hike is about 1/2 mile up a well maintained road. We decided to hike up a little further for some better views. There’s also a small gift shop on the way up, don’t miss this place.

Nice Lighthouse and View

By swearengen |

A little bit of a walk. Nice view along the way. The lighthouse at the top is really nice. They had a ranger on duty to talk some about it. Pretty interesting. Unfortunately you can't go up the steps so it's really just about the outside and views.

Historic Beauty

Spectacular views. Visually appealing way to stretch your legs and learn more about the Oregon Coast.

Great views!

By Cathy Caines |

Coming from the East Coast of Canada, I wanted to go coast to coast. This little lighthouse still has its light going around. It has a greatlittle path up to the top with some awesome views!

Gorgeous lighthouse!

By Sandeep K |

Gorgeous lighthouse on a very scenic perch along the Oregon coast. There is a nice beach, and then you walk up a little cliff to the the lighthouse. Easy hike with my 8 and 6 year old daughters.

We hiked in

By Hendersoned |

Great destination we hiked from the Hobbit trail, about a 6 mile loop. Amazing views. The county keepers house is a bed-and-breakfast but it’s closed right now that looks like a great place to stay.

A Must See!

By hazellehaz |

I loved seeing this lighthouse and there is also beach access. It is 5 dollars to park and is a half mile hike up the cliff to see it. Waiting at the lighthouse were state park volunteers waiting to answer any questions. It was accompanied by interesting history.

Definitely worth stopping

By TX08 |

This is a lovely lighthouse to visit. The walk to it is not very strenuous and the views are amazing. We were also able to watch gray whales feeding near the shoreline while here in the late afternoon. According to one of the Park rangers, a pod of about 100 whales frequents this area.

Pretty stop

By TerriC64 |

This was a nice place to stop and walk. It is a hike for sure! There is a paid parking lot at the bottom of the hill. You then have to walk a half mile up to the lighthouse. It is paved, but steep. The lighthouse is very pretty. There’s also a keeper’s house on the walk up. You cannot go into the lighthouse, but there are volunteers at the site to answer questions. It’s a pretty view.

Easy to get to/ drive to with handicap parking and handicap friendly

By Mary G |

My friend was in her motorized wheelchair and enjoyed the view while her fiance and I took a quick walk on the Hobbit Trail on the south side.

Scenic and beautiful

By Jean M |

Great hike up to lighthouse. Volunteer docents very good with giving history of lighthouse. Picturesque and scenic ocean views. Bring binoculars to view birds and sealions.

OMG!!

By EAV |

Make this a 'Must See' on your Oregon Coast travel! Gorgeous vistas, beautiful trail from the beach to the lighthouse and a very nice museum gift shop. Bring a light sweater or wrap. It's chilly up there:)

Great stop

By 2001tripper |

Definitely worth a stop. The walk up to the lighthouse from the parking lot is an easy stroll. Views are great. Cute gift shop with water, ice crew, souvenirs and very pleasant staff. Clean Bathrooms by parking lot. If you are traveling for several days or just making multiple stops on one do - buy a 5 day state parks pass for $10 total instead of paying $5 per location.

OHHH the view! Wildlife and light house WIN WIN

By jcneb596 |

Small hike to the top of Heceta Head Lighthouse. Really not too bad. Great views from the top. You can even hike above the light house to see more inside. We found some volunteers at the top who were willing to give us lots of info about the area, wildlife and anything else we asked. Small beach down below. Bed and breakfast which looked AMAZING. We got there too late for the tour but the family house looked HUGE and so beautiful. To see the actual light in the lighthouse made this stop more impressive than we expected. This is a MUST DO for all! FREE!!!

Most Photographed Lighthouse

By Alverda3 |

Don't be put off by the uphill walk to the lighthouse. It's not that far and unless you're in horrible physical shape, the hike to it shouldn't be an issue. My friends and I paid the $5 fee for the park entrance and ended up taking the official tour of the lighthouse. It is worth it if you would like to learn the history of the area and how the lighthouse actually works. The public is no longer allowed to go to the top of the lighthouse, but you still get to see a couple of the rooms on the main floor.

As you are walking up to the lighthouse, you will pass a big white house which now operates as a B&B. I wish I had known that because I would have tried to book a room there. Fantastic views from the hillside and from what I understand, a 7 course meal for breakfast. This house used to be the home of the original caretakers for the light house.

The entire beach area surrounding this lighthouse is beautiful and a great way to spend an afternoon with a picnic.

Heceta Head Lighthouse

By BJ H |

The history surrounding this area and the lighthouse is fascinating. Day hikes in this area are delightful.

History is awesome!

By Accondie |

We really enjoyed this visit to the Heceta lighthouse. We attended the tour at the lighthouse and the house. The information was contradictory but we appreciated the docents time and love of each place. You are no longer allowed to climb the stairs to the top of the lighthouse. That was very disappointing. Make sure you climb to the higher viewpoint, a short hike to the right of the lighthouse. You eat a great view of the glass from this vantage point.

Beautiful iconic lighthouse

By Todd I |

You should really check out this historic lighthouse if you're in the area. Heceta Head Lighthouse has a rich history, and the coastal views are spectacular. It's one of my favorite places in the world. The historic bed and breakfast that we stayed in is very charming and beautiful. The short hike from the main parking lot is relatively easy and well worth your time and effort.
We were lucky and spotted 4 humpback whales meandering up the coast.
We are eager to return!

Beautiful 0.5 mile easy, uphill walk to the lighthouse. It is meticulously restored and quite beautiful -- well wo

By Hoyedi |

Beautiful 0.5 mile easy, uphill walk to the lighthouse. It is meticulously restored and quite beautiful -- well worth stopping along OR 101. The docents are friendly and knowledgeable and the views of the ocean and rocky shoreline shoreline are spectacular. Do it -- you'll thank yourself!

Awesomely beautiful!

By WeBjeepers |

We hadn’t toured this lighthouse and keepers home before. It was really well worth the $5 parking fee!

Outstanding views!

By kkygar |

This is a hands down have to visit area. Breathtaking views throughout the very easy 1/2 mile walk to lighthouse. The trail winds you in and out of cute little forested area with pops of ocean views. Take a small break at the old house next to light house. It was closed due to COVID but I think you can rent for private stay as I did see a a family in there. Once at top at light house you have more view and there’s also more trail you can go up to get a view of behind the light house. Easy walk back down the trail as well. There are bathrooms at the beginning of trail as well as at the light house. Back down at the beach there’s caves and tide pools with starfish and other creatures. You will find a Bizzarre amount of ground up seashells as well as cute fresh ones. Just watch out because there where little critters in the seashells still.

Beautiful Beach, Requires hike to see Lighthouse

By Chaco Jon |

The beach below the lighthouse was pristine and gorgeous like most Oregon beaches. The downside is you have to park and walk/hike a fair distance to actually see the lighthouse. From what I could tell this isn't possible in a wheelchair which my mother was confined to when we visited.

Beautiful view

By Joyfullyanointed |

We parked at the beach and then hiked up to the keepers home and another 1/4 mile to the lighthouse. It was a beautiful and spectacular place overooking the ocean.

Incredible views and tide pools

By Peeteega |

Really lovely place to enjoy the ocean, views, tide pools, and beach. If you wish to see the tide pools, make sure you look at the tide reports and go as close to low tide as possible. The walk up to the light house is nice with a bit of elevation. Take your cameras, children, visitors, family and enjoy a spectacular location on the Oregon Coast.

Very photogenic, operating lighthouse

By mgward3560 |

You have to pay a $5 day use fee to park. Some people have complained in their reviews about this. Come on folks, it's $5 and it supports the maintenance of the beach park including the lighthouse. Get over it. As for the Lighthouse, it is in a very photogenic setting. Go down the highway through the tunnel to get a great distance shot. The lighthouse has a rotating Fresnel lens which is cool. Pay attention to the signs as you go up especially the one mentioning the path before you reach the lighthouse. It is on the right. Go up the path a hundred feet or so and you will be on the same level as the top of the lighthouse and you get a great view of the Fresnel lens rotation.

Gorgeous Area.

By Have Camera, Will Travel |

The Heceta Head Lighthouse and Cape Creek Bridge were the highlight of the day for me. My partner and I are avid photographers, so we have a great stop with the bridge, beach, and lighthouse to photograph. The walk up to the lighthouse is uphill the whole way, so be prepared for that. There is also a little trail behind the lighthouse that takes you up parallel to the top of the light for some really cool pictures.

We spent a few hours here, which was a bit longer than I was expecting. There is a lot to see and the views are amazing. Definitely worth a stop.

Heceta (hay c ta) lighthouse bright spot of the day trip

By George J |

The lighthouse was built in 1894 and was part of a network to aid navigation. It is situated in a beautiful setting with huge noble furs along a 1/2 mile path up hill to the actual lighthouse and the lighthouse keepers quarters. Back in the day it took 3 full time people to man the site. 11-3pm they were giving a free mini lecture about the history and site, the volunteer program was very interesting to listen to and was time well spent. We found parking, which cost 5 bucks. It looked as in the afternoon it could a challenge to find a spot. This is a very unique part of our history and should be experienced.

Beautiful views

By NorthUTSkier |

The views were perfectly Oregon coast. The bridge opposite shore is a perfect compliment to the natural beauty of the coastline. This is a great spot for a short walk or a short afternoon stay. The views are beautiful with the lighthouse, bridge, and rocky coastline. It does not, however, offer much for hiking or exploring.

Nice view

By Rajendra D |

We stopped at Heceta Head lighthouse on way to Florence. You have to take a trail which is upward climb of about half a mile. Unfortunately we were not allowed inside because of fire watch. Also light was under repairs. But view from the hill is beautiful. Also ranger was knowledgeable with history of the lighthouse.

Short paved walk to lighthouse from beautiful Cape Creek Beach

By Sharon B |

From Rte101 between Yachats and Florence a turn into the Hecata Head Lighthouse parking area brings you to beatiful Cape Creek Beach, set between 2 high bluffs with a wide beach, small rocks and mostly hard packed sand. There are 2 large triangular rock features just off the shore and a few shallow caves to explore as well. There are bathrooms, and a gift shop on the short walk to the lighthouse. The lighthouse was closed for renovations but park staff were available to provide information and answer questions.

Drive-by at the End of the Day.

By Dan556 |

After a long drive down the Oregon Coast, this was our last planned stop before our hotel in Florence. We saw the lighthouse up on the hill from the parking lot, peeking through the trees. After looking at the trek we would need to make to get a look at it, we decided to take a few pictures from the parking lot and call it a day. I'm sure the views are spectacular from the top, but we were pretty much physically out of gas.

Stunning spot along the Oregon coast

By billk2345678 |

A stunning spot. The caretaker's home which you can glimpse from the road is truly in a dramatic spot. Views must be incredible.

It's a good spot to stretch your legs on a coastal drive, find a spot for a picnic, take a short hike.

We had a Unique experience here.

By Nate Bair |

Our family trip was exploring Oregon's light houses. We pulled into the parking lot here and some one pointed out that the Tide was OUT as far as it has been all year. So we walked along the far edge of the rocks and crossed into a little cove that gave us the most beautiful view of the Light house. My camera could not do it justice. We did not walk up to this light house because this one will charge you to walk up to the light house. But we saw it from a distance and loved the time we had there.

Enjoyable visit

By James Z |

Our family of 4 visited the lighthouse right after visiting the Sea Lion Caves. They are in very close proximity to each other. Even though the lighthouse itself was closed, we still enjoyed the pleasant walk up to it. The views were beautiful. Afterwards, we walked down near the beach and sat on the sand and took in the marvelous Pacific Ocean views. A great way to spend a relaxing hour or so.

Worth the small hike

By boggsduo |

The lighthouse is gorgeous from the parking lot as well as up close. The walk is 1/2 mile to get to the lighthouse, which you are not allowed to go inside of. It is still worth the walk for the view. Beautiful home sits below the lighthouse, it is not open to the public but you can walk all the way around it. The paths are lined with blackberries and wild flowers. A definite lighthouse to visit when on the Oregon coast.

Short hike with excellent locations to spot whales

By papertrail2014 |

We visited at the end of June, when we expected that most whales had already migrated. However, we were easily able to spot whales once we near the the top of the trail by the lighthouse. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone with a interest in whales.

The trail is short (0.5 miles) and should be accessible to any able-bodied person. It is a steady upward incline, so some people may feel challenged by that. If you are used to hiking or walking uphill you should be fine. There is an ice cream shop about 80% of the way up which provides some motivation.

The lighthouse itself is fairly interesting, if you are into that. It's very picturesque and the educational signs and displays provide some insight into the lives of lighthouse keepers.

The location is also excellent. Heceta beach is amazing. It is scenic, protected from wind, has interesting caves and tide pools, and is generally just a nice place to visit.

All this is yours for a $5 parking fee.

Walk up 0.5 miles just to see the light!

By Centre_of_Canada |

This was the last lighthouse built on this part of the coast in the mid-1800s. Until then it was ‘dark’ and unsafe for steamers passing too close. The lighthouse features a Fresnel light which is beautiful with all it’s directed fractional light...the original! The view of the coast is also exceptional. Try to take one of the twice daily tours.

Beautiful spot!

By Laura F |

Iconic lighthouse above beautiful beach. Long up-hill walk to reach the lighthouse, which, unfortunately, cannot be viewed from the beach below. There is a pullout on the highway just south of the park where you can view the lighthouse and photograph it from a distance.

Beautifully restored. A must see

By Jola O |

Beautiful lighthouse with magnificent views of the ocean and beach. Great gift shop, the old generator room. I bought several items for myself and as gifts. It was a shame that the volunteer ranger did not show up that day, so we could not visit the interior of the lighthouse or hear about its history.

The lightkeeper’s cottage is so quaint and it’s now a B&B. It would be an awesome place to stay.

Definitely a must see when you are traveling up or the down the West coast via the 101.

Nice little lighthouse - not very exciting

By Andrea B |

Great views, pretty little lighthouse. Not one of the more outstanding ones I've seen, but it would make a nice stop on a trek down the coast. If you are an avid hiker, take the Hobbit Trail to get there. But if you are not in good shape, drive there.

Must See!

By sandrafE2269DZ |

This is one or Oregon's most amazing and historically interesting sights. A must see if you are in the area. the view is amazing! Just one of Oregon's many haunted places!!

❤️❤️❤️

By Curatio D |

Although super crowded and hard to find parking in the small lot, this is a great place to stop. Views are amazing and you can swim, have lunch, check out the lighthouse and learn about its haunted history.

Amazing view!

By Cindy |

A must see on the Oregon coast! We tried to see all the lighthouses along the coast and this by far was the prettiest. A little bite of a walk to get to the lighthouse, but the view was amazing!

Do take the time to visit this site

By carlotaTravel4fun |

The parking for this site is a bit of a challenge, but it did turn over while we were there and we were able to get a spot. The fee to park is $12. There is a small beach right next to the parking area. As you walk up the trail you will pass a small gift shop. Further up is what I believe is a B&B which is a former lighthouse residence. The next stop is the lighthouse itself. The lower level of the lighthouse is open and staffed by a knowledgeable volunteer who gives a brief history and answers any questions. The rest of the lighthouse cannot be toured. The views from this area are great.

Worth a stop!

By Gailthesailorgirl |

We enjoyed the walk, talks with volunteer hosts and ability to watch the birds on the nearby rocks. If we had had more time, there were wonderful walking trails. The local dog folks were enjoying companionship time together walking their best friends every Friday. Next time will try to stay in the guest house which doesn't open till the end of May.

stunning

By all access |

we traveled up and down the oregon coast this summer and by far the Hecta was the best . We will be doing it again next year But plan to go further up toward washington . the only difference is the further north you go the more trees in your camp site vers bushes

Pretty Light, But Not Lit on Our Visit...

By C-02 |

Beautiful lighthouse on the outside, but unfortunately it was undergoing maintenance when we visited. It was neither lit nor open for tours during the end of August. If you want to photograph it or go inside, just check to see if the maintenance is finished.

Heceta Head Lighthouse

By Jeneane S |

One of my very favorite spots on the coast. We went twice, once to stop and look and again to take the lighthouse tour and to spend 3 hours on the beach. The weather was incredible and the location is heaven.

Our favorite Oregon beach

By Kayla |

I can’t speak to the lighthouse but this beach is by far my favorite on the Oregon coast. It’s not Heceta Beach, despite the name of the lighthouse. I think it’s called Cape Cove? The beautiful bridge is Cape Creek Bridge, and this little nugget a beach is tucked in, protected, and stunning. There’s enough sand for families, caves with tide pools on the side dominated by the lighthouse keeper’s house, and a shallow creek perfect for wading on the bridge side. The photo opportunities are incredible, and if you walk up the creek a little ways, the flora and fauna are beautiful and lush. I highly recommend! Parking is limited, but there are a few picnic table to enjoy. The bathroom tends to be quite busy, and it desperately needs to be updated: no flushing toilets, no sinks, just hand sanitizer, and when we were there, it was out. There is a fee, and they don’t take cash, so be prepared. It was steep, too…$10 for that park alone. If you’re prepared for that, though, it’s a beautiful little beach!

Stunning vistas ...

By machinmad |

A beautiful beach providing a stunning vista out towards the Pacific Ocean. The trail up to the lighthouse is short and not steep. The views further round the coast are spectacular. Stop in the gift shop on the way down, it has some lovely souvenirs. Parking is just $5.

Beautiful!

By Karie B |

This was our first time hiking the trail up to the lighthouse. It was certainly worth the extra time and energy! Beautiful up close view of Heceta Head. A nice park ranger was also there to point out spots of interest. We'll be back!

Stunning view, easy walk

By Napsterthecat |

We stopped at the lighthouse. There was plenty of parking. It was an easy walk to the lighthouse. The views are stunning. A must do if in the area. There are restroom sonsite in the parking area.

Possibly 5 stars were it not closed

By beth3b |

With SIP, the Lighthouse and museum were closed. Still, the view from the base was stunning and well worth the walk up from the parking lot.

Fun hike

By Khawnee |

We have been to this lighthouse twice and enjoyed each visit. The view is spectacular. This beacon is worth a visit.

Take a hike..

By ragsdad aka Dusty Katz |

Another of the many interesting places to stop along the coast. It was a short uphill walk to the lighthouse keepers home and then on to the lighthouse itself. Both are great photo opportunities and offer great coastal views from the top. Take your time and enjoy all this coast has to offer visitors.

Easy hike with fabulous views

By Anne K |

It's a short 1/2 mile walk/hike from the parking lot by the beach to the lighthouse. On the way, we could not help but stop frequently to ooh and ahh over the fabulous views of the ocean pounding on the rocks below. It was a perfect blue-sky day with no wind and everything looked like a living postcard. The old lighthouse keeper's home is lovely, but we were not able to go inside. Same for the lighthouse, currently some maintenance going on, but tours inside are offered most days. Definitely a must-see.

History!

By Randycoeur |

Easy walk up the trail from parking lot. $5 fee for parking if you don't have an Oregon park pass. Interesting history of this lighthouse- talk to the rangers on duty. Great view of the ocean, saw a whale offshore. You cannot go into the lighthouse itself but they have a good display of the history inside the old kerosene house.

Nice place to visit

By Susie L |

Nice place to see, easy trail and good parking area so even people with limited mobility can access it.

Stop and see.

By Kieande |

Parking is close to a beach and there is a small hike up to the lighthouse, where there is a lot of history and information along with an amazing view. I enjoyed sitting on the beach and watching the ocean. You can also walk along the river and enjoy the scenery. The beach also sits below a beautiful bridge, views here are amazing no matter where you are.

Great view

By Don H |

This lighthouse is typical along the Oregon coast, nice view and somewhat windy. Bring a kite and binoculars.

Very nice Lighthouse and Light keeper house!

By Jennifer S |

I have toured this light house many times! I love it! It is now a B&B! it's very old! They say its haunted and I agree!

Gorgeous views and great hiking trails

By Lanny |

This is one of my favorite lighthouses in the area. There are nice walking trails around it that give you many different photographic views of the scenery and lighthouse.

Beautiful surrounding area!

By Gina W |

The views around the lighthouse are just gorgeous! So enjoyed getting to see this lighthouse. We did not get a chance to go in it. Please note that there is a Bed & Breakfast on the grounds that you can stay at, which we did! I highly recommend you check out my other review about our stay at Hecta Lighthouse Bed & Breakfast.

Mat 2021 Heceta Lighthouse

By Gofarrer |

Definitely a must see and stop. We hiked up, hiked behind, and enjoyed the beach-it was all awesome-wear a jacket.

Bad Timing I Guess

By Mike H |

Stopped to take in the lighthouse. Many are on the coast and we like to get shots of any lighthouse when we are around. However when we stopped it was closed so you couldn't get inside.

What a View

By Teresa P |

This is one of the Best places to see on the Oregon Coast. breath taking views and the smell of the ocean WOW!

beautiful, pretty easy walk with views along the way.

By SteveF |

very nice place and a little history. even got to see some whales in the bay. It's nice to stop at the turnouts further south and look back at it too!

A Bright Piece of History

By DawnB_STLouisArea |

The Heceta Head Lighthouse is a great scenic stop and photo op, in good weather and in bad. On Highway 101 between Florence and Yachats, it’s a short hike up to the light, and a bit more challenging to take the trail above the light for an excellent close-up view. While you cannot go inside the lighthouse itself, the historic light-keeper’s home is now a B&B. Built in 1894, this is the strongest light on the Oregon coast.

Very Scenic bring a Kite

By DillyDalli-in |

Heceta Head Light is a lighthouse on the Oregon Coast is truly beautiful. The Hike isn't bad. They do have Volunteers it is nice set up to read the history, I don't want to spoil it, however the view is wonderful.

Beautiful views

By hopeful1995 |

The light house was a hike to get to, no problem;however, when we got there you couldn’t get inside.

Amazing view

By Michael B |

You have to hike a mile to the lighthouse, but the view is worth it. Definitely a sight to see when traveling through.

Short Hike and Great View

By irawine |

My wife and I recently enjoyed our visit to the Heceta Head Lighthouse. There is a parking area for which you are charged $5 for your vehicle. From the parking lot, you walk uphill along a marked path, which takes you to the lighthouse. Along the way, and at the lighthouse itself, you get wonderful views of the beach and the coastline. The hike is pretty easy and not very far. This was well worth the time to visit.

Beautiful beach with easy 10 minute walk up to the lighthouse.

By Antonella P |

This is a beautiful beach area with picnic tables and a relatively short walk up to the lighthouse. On the way you’ll have spectacular views of the ocean and a stop along the way to a tiny gift shop. You see the old light keepers home that is now a B&B, that rumor says is haunted. Keep walking and you’ll reach the top where this amazing lighthouse stands. You’ll probably never find a view this beautiful of the Pacific Ocean. The grandchildren loved it.

Worth the walk

By VEROUK |

It’s not a long walk, albeit it is uphill, and it’s worth it. Super views and helpful guides to tell you about the history of the area. This is the sort of lighthouse you see in pictures of the Oregon Coast and while we were there we had Oregon weather too with mist floating down the cliffs to the shore. In some ways that was better than sunshine.

What a view! Must visit....

By Kim C |

This is a great beach, for starters. Loved just playing in the water! The hike to the lighthouse is not too strenuous, but be aware that it's all uphill. There are plenty of places to park and porta-potties available. (thank you) Super friendly workers and volunteers will tell you all about the lighthouse and the people who lived there for years to man the place. The view is spectacular! We're thinking about renting the caretaker home in the future - it was that great.

Stop and hike a little

By SonomaNut |

Signs show the way from 101. Pay your $5 for parking and enjoy about half mile walk up to the lighthouse. It’s not open but you can see the light flashing out from it’s lens. Beautiful views outward to sea.

Classic Oregon Coast site

By Warren G W |

No matter how many times I have seen the lighthouse, both close-up and from the highway, I am pleased by the view. Introduced my Delaware brother-in-law to it, and he became an Oregon Coast lighthouse enthusiast. That about says it all.

Great stop with two different elements.

By Jedimasterkush |

First we took the trail up to the lighthouse that had a gift shop half way up. Beautiful view at the top. You can enter the lighthouse but cannot go up the stairs. At the bottom there is a great little beach walk that I recommend you catch near low tide if possible. It made for two great walks and even more memories.

Beach and Hiking

By LisaandEdwin |

The beach is one of my favorites and there is a small stream on the south side that is perfect for kids and dogs to wade in. Great photo area with the old bridge and lighthouse.

Stunning lighthouse & Beach below

By Laura S |

My husband and I visited here on National Lighthouse Day so it was even more special. The short hike up to the lighthouse was well worth the hike. The volunteers up at the lighthouse were very knowledgable and willing to take pictures of you and the lighthouse. From the lighthouse there is an additional path that takes you a little higher so that you are level with the lighthouse. It worth the short hike up. We couldn't go into the lighthouse because its currently closed. The views of the beach, bridge, and rocks were spectacular. After the lighthouse we walked on the beach.

Great Views

By cohoman |

There is a $10 parking fee for the lot near the visitor center and gift shop. From there, it’s a half-mile hike up to the lighthouse.

When we visited, the first floor of the lighthouse was open, with two volunteers inside available to answer questions. However, visitors were not allowed to climb the stairwell to the top.

The area offers a beautiful scenic view of ocean waves crashing against the rocky shore. You can also access the beach near the parking lot. Pit toilets are available in the parking area.

Very nice

By Hicks3456 |

We hiked the Hobit trail to the lighthouse and enjoyed it that much more. Highly recommend lunch and plenty of water. The lighthouse gift shop will sell you water but rips you off and makes you buy a metal bottle for $7.99. Thought this and the prices in the shop were an extreme tourist rip off. Bring your own.

Sightseeing

By Wookie1957 |

WOW what a place spend serious time here and enjoy the views and do some hiking on the trails just absorb the beauty

Attractive lighthouse and views

By Robert S |

Heceta Head Lighthouse is on a really pretty area of the coast. When you get there you can park, and then you have a little bit of a pretty hike up to the lighthouse. There are places to stop and relax. When you arrive you will have some nice views of the coastline. They do off a quick tour that explains the history of the lighthouse and the folks who worked there in the past. Working at lighthouses was tough work. It is a fascinating story.
Half way up to the lighthouse you will see a bed and breakfast that can be rented. It would be an interesting place to spend a weekend.

Working lighthouse

By Gkg |

A must do. The lighthouse was very interesting. We were unable to visit inside due to repairs but the volunteers were great. They were very knowledgeable in the history, the site and the surrounding trails. Easy walk to it beautiful ocean views.

Enjoy the View!

By Brian R |

We saw this from the Sea Lion Caves and decided to visit. We drove in and parked. My wife thoroughly enjoyed walking around on the beach and collecting rocks. I hiked up to the light house and enjoyed the view and the small museum. Now, if I had only known there was a Bed and Breakfast!

Best place in Oregon

By LovemyRV |

We come here every year and we love it. Spent the day taking pictures and rock collecting. Worth the stop

Must see for lighthouse lovers

By Cynthia P |

If you like lighthouses, this is a must see. While not maintained by the Coast Guard it is still a working lighthouse. The lighthouse was beautifully restored. We were not able to tour inside due to limited tours but the docents were very knowledgeable. The lightkeepers house is not open to the public. Awesome views.

Must do - on the Oregon Coast

By cindy b |

Loved every view we saw in Oregon - far different from our home in Florida - :) Hills, mountains, oceanscapes and Lighthouses. Beautiful State!! Must include Haceta Lighthouse.

Another world!

By Jacqueline J |

we just stayed down at the beach and looked at the tide pools. it was an otherworldly experience!!! The air temp was 64 where all the inland areas were having terrible heat waves. The fog was out at sea waiting to roll in but we had sun and blue waters to enjoy while we were there. The entire place is wonderful.

Can’t go inside

By Jaywing18 |

Park volunteer said that visitors can no longer go into the lighthouse. Nice half mile walk up a gravel trail though.

Oregon Lighthouse worth visiting!

By traveladventure123 |

Beautifully maintained lighthouse with wide and easily accessible walking trails! Great history associated with lighthouse! We were lucky enough to stay in Heceta Head Lighthouse Keepers B&B. Incredible experience! Wonderful Staff! Breakfast out of this world! Peace, calm and serenity morning and evening! Beach is wonderful to explore for all ages! A little stinky from birds/sea life, but, views/history/trails worth it! Lots to do in area as well!

Great History into Light House Importance and Function

By Greg A |

Really enjoyed learning about what it took to have a light house constructed and the care it took to keep our sea travelers safe.

Wonderful Tour

By Carol S |

Heceta Head Lighthouse is a beautiful gem to see on the Oregon Coast! There is plenty of parking with clean restrooms available. The beach is so pretty and rugged. There was a little bit of fog the day we were there and that looked so cool! The trail up to the lighthouse is a really pretty and an easy, walk on a slight incline. We arrived just before 11:00 am and were able to get in on the first tour of the day. Our guide was extremely knowledgable about the history of the lighthouse. If you have time to stay for a tour, definitely do it. It is so interesting and quite amazing to learn what used to be involved in working and maintaining a lighthouse. Everything about this attraction is amazing. Loved it!

Historic tour is worth it!

By MamaSherBear |

We just happened to wander to the Lighthouse Keepers house just as the 11:00 tour was starting. I enjoyed the pictures and narrative of the history of this lighthouse. The views are wonderful. Note to anyone with a trailer: is is a designated RV parking lot. Utilize it! There is limited parking in the lots beyond, and the walk is worth it.

Famous views

By Randy H |

I live only an hour away from this oark so I can say I have been there hundreds of times. The beach is great, hiking trails, keepers house, (open for tours) and the famous lighthouse. (Closed now because the stairs are in need if work)
I remember when it was free to come here. Now you need a pass, or pay the one day fee. Not uncommon anymore, but with that fee they should take better care of the park. They have great restrooms that are never open. Just have the pit toilets for visitors. No posted potable water either.

Absolutely Beautiful

By mmbluejay |

Highly recommend you visit this lighthouse. It is beautiful from a distance and up close. Volunteers provide a tour and give a history lesson which was very interesting. We also saw sea lions and birds nesting on the huge rocks in the ocean. You have access to the ocean and can walk/play. A definite stop which only takes an hour or less depending on what you do. All of us enjoyed this visit.

Easy hike; Picturesque

By John S |

A very well-maintained trail leads from the lot to the lighthouse. Definitely an uphill climb, but should be pretty easy for most people. We headed west to the coast from Eugene, so this was one of our first stops along the coast, and a great introduction to the beauty of the Oregon coast. Once you reach the lighthouse, I would recommend doing the extra climb to get the perspective from above. There is a trail just to the right of the building, and a couple switchbacks will give you an awesome view overlooking the lighthouse.

Beautiful

By oregon1drifter |

Photo op, bring light jacket as the weather can change but mostly nice. Roaming on foot is best. Surf is always very cold with lots of different shells on the beach.

Great hike!

By Journey673082 |

We walked from the lighthouse to the beach and back - a great 4 miles to the Hobbit Trail and gorgeous beach. Loved it!

A must visit park on the Oregon coast

By Jeff C |

Awesome cove with beautiful Cape Creek, seabird nesting preserve, storied lighthouse, tidal shellfish and invertebrates. One of the most photographed sites on the Coast. From the South, after passing favored sea lion habitat, frequent pull outs give spectacular views of the lighthouse and surf. Emerging from a tunnel onto a historic bridge over Cape Creek, the view through mature Douglas Fir is like fairyland. Circular cove is a favorite for seabirds and Marine mammals. A favored site for NW Indians in the 1600-1800's. Storied (hauntings) Lighthouse with lodging. Trails connect to northerly beaches via the Hobbit trail. Things to do for 10 minutes to 10 hours. Fee area.

A lighthouse to light the way to our hike up the hill

By TravelGoddess61 |

There is a parking lot but it could be an issue there depending on the time, as it is not very large. There is a 5.00 fee with a collection box and don't forget to pay it. There is a beach there also but we hiked up the hill to the lighthouse. It is a good trail and it is wide and was easy to self isolate when we went. The lighthouse itself was not open but the views on the way up of the ocean were beautiful and it is very worth hiking up to the top. Bring your camera. Not sure if it would be wheel chair accessible though. There are stops with information about the history, and a small gift shop also on the way up. There is also a very historical house that has tours certain days with an appointment where the lightkeepers used to stay. It looked so pretty from the outside. There is also Heceta beach that you can also visit where you park the car before you hike up. The visit here is so worth doing and it is not very far from Florence Oregon though of course highway 1 can be a bit winding. When we went the weather was beautiful and warm. A must visit if you can!

Beautiful hike

By Erika |

After tide pooling with friends we made the short hike up the lighthouse. There were several vantage points and each one had a detailed informational plaque. The views were amazing. Definitely worth the short trip up.

Beautiful Location

By MikeB1952 |

We’ve been here before and really liked both the lighthouse and the area. Down below is a parking area just off the beach. The beach is a small rather hidden affair with lots of sand.

We walked on a nice wide path and there in front of us is the Lighthouse. It’s not an overly impressive structure (like the Yaquina Point Lighthouse). But it’s in an impressive location, sitting way out on a point where it can be seen in numerous directions. The Lighthouse continues to operate using its original Fresnel Lens. At the bottom we were greeted by a friendly volunteer who told us about the Lighthouse origins. We could go only into the first floor of the Lighthouses. There we met another volunteer telling us about the restoration of the Lighthouse and some of the interior features. Always so neat to have folks talk about places we visit.

The View!

By cloop14 |

We took our usual trek to the Heceta Head Lighthouse. The view never lets us down. We enjoy the lighthouse and the history but the view is everything. We love the walk to the lighthouse too. Have your camera in hand to capture the waves crashing into the rocks, the foliage and the lighthouse. If you are lucky, you might see sea lions and some of the unusual sea birds. Beautiful place!

Oregon Coast trip

By Keith P |

Short walk .5 miles +- up on a mild hill on a wide smooth trail/road. Well worth the walk. $5 parking fee. Bathrooms but not water. Parking is right at the beach. Tours offered depending on available docents. Defiantly worth the time to pull over and hike up.

Beautiful view

By jdlakeshore |

Beautiful view and great stop along the Oregon coast. You can't go in the lighthouse but just walking around and seeing the area/views is great. Lots of great photos.

Well-maintained trail and marvelous view!

By Kevin T |

From the beautiful beach down below to the trail up to the Lighthouse, it's a truly beautiful place. The fully restored Lighthouse Keeper's house is now a very nice Bed and Breakfast Inn. The cute little gift store that's in the old garage/paddock had some of the guests of the Inn present while I was in there shopping and they said the Inn was a beautiful place to stay. I got a brochure and hope to stay there sometime. Then on up the trail to the Lighthouse. The volunteers working there were very nice and knowledgable, and they pointed out a trail that took me up behind the Lighthouse to get some good pics of the amazing prism glass in the Lighthouse. The history of how that glass is made is very interesting! While I was up there enjoying the view I also saw some sea lions and whales in the water. It was a great experience!

Great spot for a several hour stay

By Michelle S |

We visited here while staying in Depoe bay. It was a lovely walk up to the lighthouse with wonderful views from the top. The beach is vast and has some nice spots to walk around. Bring a lunch/snack and sit for a while. If there are any mobility challenged folks it's easy to stay near the parking lot near the beach

Beautiful views and wonderful Bed and Breakfast stay

By Ellen B |

The Heceta Head Lighthouse Keeper's Bed and Breakfast is spendy but a great experience. We made reservations about one year in advance to reserve the Victoria room since it has a private bath. Private parking for guests was conveniently located behind the house, with a garden entrance. It was everything we anticipated and more. The breathtaking views and walk to the lighthouse at dusk were so enjoyable. We even saw a young elk, grazing on the hillside next to the lighthouse. Although you cannot go inside the lighthouse, the viewpoint is spectacular. The seven course breakfast (small portions) was delicious and memorable. We enjoyed meeting people from around the country at breakfast, several celebrating anniversaries or birthdays. A great location and unique experience. A small gift shop on the way to the lighthouse offers some nice gifts.

Nice view,nice beach.

By Mike S |

This site is worth at least a quick stop. There is a nice beach and some good views. Views of the lighthouse from the beach are somewhat obstructed, however. If you don't want to make the hike up the hill, the best view of the lighthouse is actually from a highway pullout about at mile south. If you are spending several hours , it would probably rate higher. If you are just driving down the coast, it is one of many nice stops along the way.

Beautiful

By Monkeytoez |

I cannot comment on the tour as we only visited from below . But even that was worth it . It is a stunning lighthouse and has a beautiful beach beneath it that we enjoyed our breakfast at . I will be sure to tour it when we have more time .

In town? You have to go

By Ron P |

Simply put...beautiful. Florence is cool anyway and this only makes it better. No reason in the world not to check out this beautiful historical landmark

Haceta head Lighthouse

By GeoffK |

This a park location and there is a $5 charge by the Park Service to go here. convenient pay station which accepts CC's Surf was high and really turning up the waves. Hike up to the Light house has a moderate incline and for most, easy to do as it is only 1/2 mile. There is an overlook at the top that looks at the Lighthouse directly to give a better view. The tours are not running at this time. Volunteers are there from 11 to 2 most days. Thoroughly enjoyed this stop. The history of the lighthouse is on stands to explain the history so you appreciate what happened from it's foundation to today.

Really great stop along the Oregon coast

By Melissa D |

Seriously, our favorite stop on our trip up the Oregon Coast. We loved it. There is a small parking lot at the bottom of the hill with extra parking around the corner. We didn't have trouble parking, but it did fill up while we were there so it seems to get busy sometimes. From the parking area you can "hike" up the trail to the lighthouse. It really is a very easy walk, not strenuous or anything. It's maybe a half mile to the lighthouse.

The interior was not yet open when we were there thanks to Covid, but the grounds were still lovely and the view is incredible. Our kids had fun playing in front of the building and trying to watch the birds and animals in the ocean.

There is a small gift shop along the path about halfway up to the lighthouse. They had a lot of fun things in there and were pretty reasonably priced (for a gift shop at an attraction). The people in the shop were adorable and made it really fun to spend some time there.

After visiting the lighthouse, we took some time to walk in the ocean on the beach below the site. There are some small caves (very small, but still fun) along the shoreline and lots of shell bits that you could explore and collect (fun for our kids). We had some wake boards and the kids rode the waves a bit although the water was not exactly warm. There is also a small river that meets up with the water in the cove and that offers a fun place to wade and explore as well. In addition, there is a lovely bridge above the parking lot that just added to the atmosphere. It was just a really great stop for our family.

Amazing!

By redzin0613 |

We stayed in the light keepers room and enjoyed sleeping with the window and curtains open. The bathroom is located across the hall but is independent to the keepers room. The claw foot tub was great for a soak while viewing the lighthouse. Great little hiking trail up to lighthouse and another down to the beach area. Breakfast was lovely with explanations of all the courses and getting to meet the other guests around one large table was a nice bonus. Definitely a bucket list location checked off. View of the Oregon coast from the Adirondack chairs on the front porch was serene.

Most Photographed Lighthouse in Oregon

By DewPortland |

One can catch a quick look at the lighthouse driving on highway 101 but it’s best to pull off into one of the viewpoints.
Parking is limited however.

Pull into the pay lot at the park, one can then hike out to the lighthouse that is operating.

The stretch of Highway 101 from Florence to Yachats is probably one of time the most spectacular sections to visit. Grand ocean vistas overlooking rock formations that cause the ocean waves to crash in spray.
Beautiful!

Excellent

By Jeff L |

We love this place. we parked at the state park near the bridge and then walked the trail to the lighthouse. It is great to see after all the restoration work.

No refunds whatsoever

You have to pay for your stay when you book and if you need to cancel you do not get a refund so make sure nothing goes wrong in your life 🤦🏼‍♀️

The brightest lighthouse beam on the Oregon coast -- It shines 21 miles out to the sea!

By Kathy D |

A pleasant trail connects the lighthouse to the keepers' house. The structures date from 1894. The keeper's house is available as a bed-and-breakfast.

History and More

By Dan W |

We spent part of our afternoon hiking to the Heceta Lighthouse. All along the way up the trail there are historical information stops that educate visitors of the important role this lighthouse has filled. There's a beautifully restored house on the property and of course the wonderful lighthouse itself. Unfortunately due to the COVID pandemic there is no entrance to the lighthouse.

Gorgeous spot

By Judith95008 |

We loved the view and the spot was amazing. Access is to be noted because it’s a half mile hike up hill and half mile back down. The trail is well maintained but not for those who can’t manage the uphill walk. No accommodations for handicapped. I made it up to the house/B&B. But needed to stop there. It was well worth the walk and the view was amazing due to the fact that we had gorgeous weather that day.

Very Scenic

By mrt1955 |

Went here after our walk on the Hobbit Trail. Beautiful lighthouse in good condition. Didn't appear to have tours inside the lighthouse but the location is very scenic.

Very Special B&B

By PortlandLuv2Travel |

It was a special and fun experience at this charming B&B. Breakfast was delicious and special. Our room was small and we had to walk across the hall to our private bathroom. We would have preferred an ensuite bathroom, but none were available for the first two nights. On our third night we were able to get a room with an ensuite bathroom. Nest time we would pay the extra expense for a ensuite bathroom for all three nights.. Staff are helpful and wonderful. Love the location. We did a great hike right out the front door. We enjoyed the deck chairs on the front porch with a glass of wine while watching the day come to an end. One of our fondest memories was hiking to the lighthouse to watch the sunset and then using our flashlights to find our way back to the B&B. Overall it was a lovely memorable stay at Heceta Head Lighthouse B&B.

Great views and history!

By Jerri L |

We visited on a Tuesday late afternoon and there were a few people on the beach, but not many making the hike to the lighthouse. There is a $5 fee for parking. There are restrooms at the start of the trail to the lighthouse as well as outhouses at the top and in the beach. Reviews I read warned they were not clean and I did not check on this.

The beach is beautiful. There are rocky shores with caves one direction, and lots of sandy beach with smooth water washed pebbles the other direction toward where Cape Creek meets the ocean. Cape Creek Bridge is an awesome architectural structure there as well. We enjoyed wading in the cool water both in the creek and the ocean and took in the views and the sound of the waves.

When we visited there were no indoor tours available due to maintenance, but we wanted to get a closer look and walk around anyhow. We walked the short uphill trail (maybe 1/4 mile or so) to the lighthouse and read the information posted along the way. There is a small gift shop which is open until 6pm with items related to the lighthouse and the area.

The views from up around the lighthouse are amazing! The light keepers house which you pass on the trail nearby is a bed and breakfast and people book it for weddings. It was very well kept with a beautiful front porch, with chairs and flowers.

Glad we stopped and made the hike up and looked around. Worth the time and the $5 parking fee!

A must see when on the Oregon coast

By eatsleeptour |

A beautiful lighthouse perched on the edge of the gorgeous Oregon coast line. The short hike to the lighthouse gives you breathtaking views. Due to Covid the lighthouse itself was closed for climbing however we were allowed to go inside and look up the staircase and read the information that was available inside the lighthouse. There is a small gift shop near the lake keepers house that has some really cute items and even a cold beer (drinks) which is nice on a sunny day.

Best Lighthouse and B&B Lighthouse on the NW Coast

By CourtenayOregon |

What an awesome place to visit, hike and the breakfast served is amazing. If you ever want to spend the night at an unforgettably scenic lighthouse that will take your breath away, this is the one.

Worth the stop

By Rachael B |

I was driving the whole Oregon coastal highway and stopped at Heceta head. This is a really cute little lighthouse but unfortunately you cannot tear inside of. It is $5 to park and visit. You get to go and see the beach at the bottom, has a nice view of the bridge, and there are trails to hike along the lighthouse. They have a really nice lighthouse keeper's House that apparently you can stay in certain times of the year. That would definitely be worth doing at some point as the house looks very charming and has great views of the water and lighthouse. The volunteers are very knowledgeable about both lighthouses, the area, and the site.

Beautiful lighthouse and great views!

By CarlaZ513 |

We arrived here after dinner when it was dusk so we were able to appreciate the light that was generated from the lighthouse when we arrived at the top. The walk up to the lighthouse is not steep, but it is uphill. There were a lot of signs that explained the history of the lighthouse and the area. There is a cute B&B actually on the property so it was fun to imagine what it was like inside!

Always a beautiful photo

By 2013TravelinFool |

Was a foggy day so photos weren’t the best but still worth a trip there. Maggie Mae loved her walk along the river and the ocean.

Always gorgeous

By Tami M |

Always a beautiful stop and quick hike to the lighthouse. This stop never seems to disappoint. No bathrooms available during COVID, as a warning.

always a fun visit

By Captains_Rum_Punch |

We have visited the Heceta light and beach area on several occasions. It's hard not to visit during with some fog. My favorite spot to photograph the light is at the pullout on hwy 10 a little south of the light.

Wonderful lighthouse

By Danielle P |

Traveling thru Oregon has been not only beautiful but another bucketlister that has come true! I couldn't go close to the ocean without stopping at a few lighthouses. They have quite a few easy assessible one, some you you have to climb or walk abit. But, that's why we went on the nature journey to exercise and enjoy fresh nonpolluted fresh air. There is plenty of parking $5 and clean bathrooms at this location. Yes you will have to walk up hill. Its nestled in between trees up a gravel road up hill. So keep that in mind before you start walking. You can actually see the lighthouse from the parking lot and the beach. The lighthouse is actually a bed and breakfast currently. Check the website for prices, looks like it would be a great experience.

Don't forget to take a walk along the beach. The tide was low when I viisted, so you can go out pretty far walking. I really enjoyed the peace and serenity along my Oregon journey! Great photo opportunities along the way.

Beautiful place

By Vivian M |

We hiked the Hobbit trail to the lighthouse. It’s a 1.5 miles hike to the lighthouse then 1.5 back to the trailhead. Not much parking. The view from the lighthouse was great but the light was not on as maintenance is being done

Tours were not available

By Bucket List |

Communication inside the visitor's center was very bad. We were asked if we wanted to place a reservation to tour the lighthouse, but it wasn't necessary. We could just go up on our own and see everything. We went out the lighthouse and found out you HAD to be on the reservation list in order to take the tour. By then it was too late to go back and make a reservation.

The everlasting light

By Sandra Kelly |

Lighthouses always leave us a bit haunted and they express a light in the storm.
A place of comfort just ahead has kept seafarers safe and hopeful. This one is atop a high ridge overlooking the crashing sea beneath.

Great place and hike!

By Branlaur |

What a beautiful place. We hiked the lighthouse trail which connect to hobbit trail onto beach. Gorgeous moderate level hike. We parked at lighthouse lot. Picnic tables there along with port a potties.

We will be back

By Ninette B |

You can see this light house from the Sea Lion Caves, but VISIT here. What a beautiful site to see. I sure wish we could have toured the inside, but due to COVID we were "stuck" with only the outside beauty. The gift shop is a small wonder and we did get an ice cream snack there. LOVELY lovely stop!

Lots of Hiking Trails Nearby

By BSinPNS |

Beautiful lighthouse on the Oregon Coast which is best viewed from an overlook about half a mile south of the light itself. There is a state park for which you must purchase a parking pass before exploring the many hiking/walking areas nearby.

Haceta Lighthouse is a stop to make is yo are in Florence, OR. Easy hike to the historic site. Beautiful views.

Great spot

By Jurgen B |

the lighthouse is just a little part of the whole beauty around here. The walk to it is easy, fast and very nice

Great place Great Views

By penahill |

This lighthouse is a short 1/2 mile hike to get to it. They have tours from 11-4 which we missed seeing we were they become 11. The light keepers house is open to the public to view. The lighthouse is still a short distance from here. As you can see by the pictures it has been maintained very well. I would highly recommend visiting this lighthouse.

Busy even when it's foggy

By Cynthia K |

Signage on Hwy 101 is good. Parking lot seems generous, but fills up very fast. It was a foggy day (all day as it turned out), so the views weren't great. There's a day use fee.
There's bathrooms. I think they were pit toilets.

I still took the .9 mile hike up to see the lighthouse. Trail is road sized & gravel. There's a steady incline with information boards along the way. The lighthouse is nice. There's docents there, but no tours. They opened a building that had old pictures & more info. I took some shots, but with the fog it was a waste of time.
Continue Hwy 101 South & there's 3 more overlooks of the lighthouse. It wasn't worth stopping the day we went, but the next day I got an interesting pic.

Came back down & walked along the beach. Definitely worth a look.

Great Lighthouse

By wwharper |

If you are into lighthouses then this is a place to stop. Oregon has some of the best lighthouses to look at. This is one of the better ones.

So Worth the stop

By Adrienne W |

You will not regret stopping here, the beach is great for finding little treasures like Sand Dollars and agates and to tour the lighthouse is always my favorite. I have been going over here for many, many, many years and it never gets old.

Luckily we were here early before the parking filled up. We headed up to the lighthouse first. The volunteers were very informative and we learned a lot about the lighthouse. Then we headed out to the beach and really enjoyed it. Definitely a must do stop!

Nice location, no access

By DonaldYokum |

My Lady was very excited about the opportunity to see some of the lighthouses on the Oregon Coast, and Heceta Head filled the bill. It's a nice walk from the parking area up to the light house. On the way, you pass the LIghthouse Keeper's home, which is now accepting short-term tenancy. The lighthouse is in a very attractive location, with great views of the coast. Unfortunately, the lighthouse was closed on the day we arrived.

Pretty views!

By Carrie N |

The lighthouse was very pretty and there were good views all around! We parked by a beach in a lot that was $5 and Hiked the trail up to the lighthouse. There are a lot of resting areas and picnic tables and a gift shop halfway up. When staffed, you can go in the bottom of the lighthouse. It's a very small area but you can see the spiral stairs and learn some information.

Beautiful

By barbaracZ8903RI |

This is a beautiful lighthouse. The views are spectacular. Just a short hike up to it, with plenty of shade and oppotunities to stop along the way. Was a little disappointed that you could not actually go in the lighthouse and we missed the tour of the lightkeeper' house and could not wait for the next tour. Maybe next time!

We had taken this hike to the lighthouse from the Hobbit Trail junction. It’s a breathtaking trail, in some places steep but worth the effort. It had taken us approximately 45 minutes to the lighthouse and 30 minutes back.

I’ve never been to a lighthouse so I didn’t want to miss this one. Got there after 4 so missed the tour. Great vantage point across the street. Drive in and out is lovely.

Stopped by the Haceta Head Lighthouse and really enjoyed the amazing views. It’s a short .5 mile hike up the hill to view the lighthouse, but worth it as you can see awesome views of the ocean. The parking fee is $5. Highly recommend

We enjoyed hiking up to the lighthouse, even though it was quite foggy. Pretty views from the top. Easy hike- good for all ages.

beautiful scenery and lighthouse

By kencatron |

The light house is a short 1/2 mile walk from the parking lot but isn't open during the cold months. Still, you can get some nice views and good photos. Very scenic and breathtaking and worth the walk.

Beautiful stop for hiking

By Karen M |

This is a beautiful lighthouse, and a nice stop on the coast. From the parking lot you can also walk down to a small beach, which is backed by a nice bridge. The lighthouse has many trails around it, including one that takes to the long way to Hobbit Beach. (Faster access to Hobbit Beach is found by the trailhead just off 101. The lighthouse itself is not open for visits, but you can walk around it.

Great beach; Perfect lighthouse

By Lynn A |

In many Oregon Coast visits over decades, I somehow missed this gem. Just south of the Sea Lion Caves, this place has a rocky beach and a stellar lighthouse. There's a gift shop on the way up the 1/2 mile trail to the lighthouse. Sadly, you can't see the lighthouse from the beach. You have to hike to the top, but the climb is gradual.

Simply Beautiful

Great view, especially up the trail

By Dwight W |

Neat glimpse at Oregon coast history with the establishment of this and other light houses. Tour of original house was great. View looking South is great and if you take the trail a little ways being the light house, you can get a fantastic view looking North on top of a drop off to the ocean. Hold onto you hat as the wind is strong once you step out of the trees

Lovely lighthouse

By viajero+60 |

Very nice lighthouse....worth a visit. Nice beach at the car park . Even if foggy you can see the lighthouse close up. If you walk up to the lighthouse....go up the wooden steps to the right of the lighthouse and you get a view from behind it. For a view of the lighthouse and the rocks....leave lighthouse , turn right on to I101.... go through the tunnel and there is a view point on the right. Note if it is foggy you won't see the view. Also note you must pay a 5 dollar fee to park at the lighthouse....machines are in the car park .

Great view , excellent tour.

By kayak_traveller |

The view from the lighthouse grounds is beautiful , you will get a great panoramic view of the coast line. If you choose to take the lighthouse tour it is informative and the tour guides are well versed in the history of the lighthouse. The tour only takes you into the base of the lighthouse (the lighthouse tower itself is closed to visitors) but it is enjoyable just the same.

Beautiful Lighthouse in a Magnificent Setting

We found it easy to visit Heceta Head, one of our three favorite lighthouses along the Oregon coast. We parked in the decent sized parking lot and paid for parking at the kiosk which only took credit cards. The paved path to the lighthouse and keeper's house has a slight elevation gain. No tours were offered on the day of our visit; check ahead of time for a tour schedule. We enjoyed views of both structures in the morning sunlight. We also stopped for a more distant view from the roadside parking area just south of the turnoff for the lighthouse.

The friendly park ranger provided information about the structure and history of the lighthouse. She happily took photos of visitors in front of the lighthouse -- a nice souvenir of our visit!

We enjoyed the hike

By Teakellie6 |

It’s a very nice location but the lighthouse itself was closed so not much to see. There is additional parking if you drive to the other side of the bridge when the front lot is full. The walk is 1 mile. I saw a woman with a walker make it up and back without any issues.

Iconic

By Oskarduck |

We hiked to the Heceta Head Lighthouse via the Hobbit trail, which offer some spectacular views. Of course it is easier to reach the lighthouse via the park, but it is well worthwhile to hike 50-100 meters up the Hobbit trail from the lighthouse to take in the views. The lighthouse is interesting, but the views of the lighthouse from Highway 101 are iconic and always a treat.

Lighthouse Location With Coastal View

By Michael M |

The lighthouse is a bit of a walk but worth it when you see the incredible views. Photo opportunities of the coast simply can not be described with words. If you like visiting lighthouses as you travel along the Oregon coast this one is worth stopping for.

Pretty spot

By Jasmine38Chichester UK |

Very scenic spot and lovely beach. From the parking lot you can get a nice photo of the pointed rocks in the ocean with the light keepers house in the background. (Now a B&B). You can't see the lighthouse from here though. You need to walk a well maintained 0.5 mile slightly steep path to get to it. Attractive but not much to see. You can't go up it. Good little gift shop though.

To get a good view of the lighthouse, drive past (travelling from Newport) for about a mile and there are two pull ins situated close together.

Beautiful Views

By Stephanie G |

We were in the area to see Thor's Well, so we decided to drive a bit further to see the Heceta Head Lighthouse. The drive was beautiful and so was this lighthouse and the area around it. There was parking near the beach, along with a not so clean bathroom. There is a bit of a walk up to get to the keeper's house (now a bed-and-breakfast and not open to tours) and the gift shop, then a bit more of a climb to reach the lighthouse. There are tours most days, but we arrived after the tours had finished so we weren't able to go inside. The lighthouse is quite pretty, though, so we enjoyed the visit anyway. The view of the ocean and the beach from the lighthouse is spectacular, as well. There were volunteers available to answer questions, too.

Sunny Road Trip Destinations

By Mkildal |

I really am not motivated by shopping and fine dining, but I am moved by beauty and history. The Heceta Head Light House combined both in my short visit.

The hike to the lighthouse is accessible, but requires good mobility. The BEST view I think is from the more primitive upper trail.

In the past I have been here in the fog and did not complete the hike. There would be no views. But TODAY (sunny) was breathtaking.

Save time and take photos from Sea Lion Caves.

By Joseph P |

Fantastic views of the lighthouse from Sea Lion Caves. Took several photos of one of the most photographed lighthouses in America. Bring your telephoto lens, that way the immediate subject and setting is clear and in focus.

A Majestic Light

By Jerry |

The area around Heceta is amazing! Numerous picnic areas make for a pleasant visit with friends and family. Hiking trails provide a nice "nature" experience, and the seascape is crazy beautiful.

The beach area has many fun features including a few tidal pools and caverns, and if you're a wave lover, you're usually never disappointed.

The lighthouse and keep's home a great places, and each has a tour available, thought I believe each is a summer seasonal thing. The rich history of the light and it's beauty make it a majesty to behold.

Lovely Lighthouse

By ScubaCoupleRaleigh |

Although uphill it is a fairly short hike up to the Lighthouse. about halfway up there is a nice gift shop to check out either on the way up or down. We meet a very nice volunteer at the lighthouse who was willing to answer any questions

Our favorite lighthouse on the Oregon coast!!

By KareStev |

The beach is very inviting, because not as busy, and actually much more beautiful. The walk from end to end is very relaxing, and on the north end of the beach there are several caves to see. The lighthouse is very picturesque , even from certain spots on the beach. But to see her in all her glory you need to hike up, about 1/2 mile up. Halfway up is a nice gift shop, if you need to catch your breath. The path the rest of the way up has amazing views of the coast. We stayed at the lighthouse awhile, just taking in the awesome panoramic ocean view, just breathtaking. A must see, for sure.

A must-see lighthouse and interesting beach

By Natalie K |

Purportedly the most photographed lighthouse in the country, Heceta Head is certainly very photogenic. The highway takes you under the beautiful Cape Creek Bridge (getting some work done on it at the moment) to the large parking lot and the beach at the mouth of Cape Creek. A short hike on a paved trail takes you to the lightkeeper's house/B&B, where they do a short guided tour. Our guide (a volunteer, like all of these folks that work the lighthouses other than Coast Guard employees) was very knowledgeable. Also a small gift shop at this level with some good t-shirts and other Heceta Head stuff. Another short hike from there takes you to the lighthouse and a couple of small outbuildings. There is one building open with displays, but access to the interior of the lighthouse itself is not available to the public. There are also some wooded trails above the lighthouse that give you more great views if you are up to it. Cost is a day-use pass for parking - $5.00. The beach in the parking area is a great place to eat a picnic lunch (picnic tables scattered in the grass area, as well as restrooms), fly a kite, or check out the tide pools or shallow caves. One of the highlights of our Oregon coast road trip!

Always BEAUTIFUL

By 2013TravelinFool |

Never get tired of stopping and taking photos of this lighthouse, its never the same and they are stunning!

Long uphill hike, but beautiful scenery.

By TravelbugGP |

This was a very long uphill hike to get to the lighthouse and once inside we were not allowed to take any stairs or see how the light works. Very disappointing, but the view was very nice for most of the walk.

Finally!

By Pixelpanderer |

This is the fourth time that I have tried to shoot this place. Rain and fog have cursed me. On a clear day, shoot the light from across the bay. Much better than being up close.

Beautiful

By 3pearls |

We walked up to the light house the scenery was breathtaking, and the area was very well kept. We also went into the gift shop and the lady at the counter was very friendly and helpful. Very reasonable prices on the gifts and souvenirs. The park had many kiosks to tell the history of the lighthouse and the history around it. Definitely will go back up to the light house again.

Pretty walk up to the lighthouse

By Doreen C |

This was a nice walk up to the lighthouse. It was an easy walk, but it was on a pretty good incline, which was easy for my husband, a bit tougher for me, but definitely doable. The views were beautiful.

Amazing

By Deb D |

Beautiful area, great stop off location for a rest stop..easy access on and off highway..quick walk to site

By Storyteller769597 |

This is our third time at the lighthouse. Amazing place with nice rooms and great views and walks/hikes. We noticed the the 7 course breakfast was not as good as it was the last 2 times. I think they had trained chefs before. I would rate the breakfast as average this time compared to excellent the last 2 times. For example the sorbet was more of a drink than frozen and the baked bread was not good. The guests at our table all agreed. Overall, a great experience, but let's get some experienced chefs hired, especially for the price!

A Classic Lighthouse Scene!

By Don'tWaitForRetirement |

Tip #1: Heceta Head Lighthouse Viewpoint is included in the Oregon Pacific Coast Passport, so if you have this, you can avoid the parking fee. The passport includes over 15 different sites along the coast.

Tip #2: Drive to the viewpoint up the road near the sea lions for a distant view of Heceta Head and Lighthouse.

HECETA HEAD LIGHTHOUSE
While touring Oregon, we stopped by Heceta Head Viewpoint and Lighthouse, parked the car and walked about 1/2 mile uphill to the lighthouse.

You come across a small gift shop and B&B. It's very scenic with trees, flowers and fauna, a bridge and beach/coastal views.

We took lots of photos in front of the lighthouse. (It wasn't open late in the afternoon when we were there).

Note: There's a porta potty next to it. The restrooms in the parking lot were closed when we were there (Aug '19).

The best view is from the top!

By Emily B |

Gorgeous- and really the best way to see it is the viewpoint before (or I guess after, depending on which direction you are driving from) right off the highway. We did go down the bottom and park. There is almost no view at all of the lighthouse from there but our kids had fun along the beach. You can hike up to it, but we had a family member with us with limited mobility. I think it was a half mile hike one way.

So much fun!

By 927mariahp |

We had a blast visiting this lighthouse! The views all around were immaculately gorgeous, but honestly my favorite part was stopping along the hike and reading up on the history of the lighthouse. They have a cute little gift shop and the old lighthouse keeper's house is now a bed and breakfast! How cute is that?!?! It's not too hard of a hike either. There was an 80 year old couple that was hiking right behind us and they made it just fine! We brought our dog to the top so that was fun as well! The view from the top is incredible. Overall we had such a fun time! I would recommend =)

Great views and lighthouse

By arlened585 |

This area is good for a walk to see the lighthouse. It is a mile round trip. When the water is out there are large caves in the rocks below the lighthouse that are very interesting. Take plenty of time to see all there is in to see and do here.

One of the better lighthouses on the coast

By bwanderer |

A short drive off the coast highway, a modest parking lot probably fills in summertime. There is a fee to park, $5 at the time of our visit. A small beach in front of it, a wide path at the north end gently slopes up to the quarters and then the lighthouse itself, views along the way. It's very peaceful and serene. Once at the lighthouse, sign up for the tour, if of interest, for a handful of people are taken inside and given a brief background within 15 minutes. The tours go from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., but check before you go here! If picnicking is your thing, there are tables below and above.

Heceta Head Lighthouse

By nowpacking |

The Heceta Head Lighthouse is on the National Register of Historic Places. Originally built in 1892, it sits atop a 1,000-foot cliff which is a dramatic setting and backdrop for the stunning lighthouse.
There is a slight uphill hike up to the lighthouse and you will pass a cute gift shop and the Keepers House B& B!
Stunning views all around!

Terrific View

By tennispete72 |

Hiked the trail from the park to the lighthouse. View was outstanding. Docents at the top were friendly, helpful and provided a lot of historical information about the lighthouse and the area.Even offered to take our picture in front of the lighthouse which we accepted.

Nicest lighthouse in oregon

By James c |

I was told this is the most photographed lighthouse in the world. I would say in Oregon 4 sure. The hike to the top of hill is very scenic especially the views of the beach below. Make sure you go all the way to the top, here you can see the top of the lighthouse. I would definitely spend time at the beach after.
Note: you can only visit the 1st floor but you can go in the care takers house. I didn't have the time

The most photographed lighthouse for a reason

By John N |

When I was taking drive up the coast from Eugene to Portland this was one of the places I had wanted to stop at. Did not disappoint.

You see it from the highway and when you get closer easy off down into the parking lot. Costs $5 to park for the day but it is 100% honor system.

Everything says it opens at 11am but that is the lighthouse itself. You can park and walk up before that and I did that and there were not many people (better for photos)

The walk up to the lighthouse is uphill and not that bad a pretty nice crushed stone surface but if you have trouble walking up this may not be for you or even pushing a stroller not sure how that would work

You can also head out onto the beach

Great views and a fun stop

Good ocean view up there

By budzy829 |

We went here after visiting the one across it. The hike up to the lighthouse was full of trees and ocean views. Too bad you can't go in the lighthouse but for us the best part is the beach!

Breathtaking Views , A Must Stop !

By TipsFromABellman |

I absolutely loved this lighthouse park ! We almost didn't stop here because we had did the Umpqua River Lighthouse tour and Coast Guard Museum in Winchester Bay back in 2019 . We were headed north up the coast , but the road was closed due to road repairs . I'm so glad we came back . Unfortunately the lighthouse tours are not being done due to Covid restrictions and the lighthouse keepers house which is a bed and breakfast was also closed .

The walk up the trail is not very difficult and is about a mile up . The views are magnificent ! I took lots of pictures and video even though it was overcast , but the sun would break through at times giving you better light and views .

Beautiful!

By Slschultz |

Gorgeous lighthouse with nearby hiking, and beach. We were welcomed by volunteers that offer a wealth of knowledge in the history of the lighthouse and surrounding area. Enjoyed seeing the sea lions bobbing around in the surf below!

Stunning views

By D P |

Sea lions rest and play around the rocks that surround this stunningly beautiful lighthouse. The scenery surrounding it is gorgeous, very photogenic.

Well worth the 1/2 mile walk!!!

By cardscharlotte |

Wanted to go up to lighthouse and when I found out it was a gradual incline uphill we proceeded to top. Great views of the coast from up top!

Fun afternoon!

By RED45 |

It’s an uphill hike to the lighthouse. Once at the top you are able to see the keepers houses and the lighthouse itself. The guides are friendly and knowledgeable. We enjoyed a short movie and pictures showing the lighthouses history. It’s location is beautiful. Make an afternoon of it with lunch or snacks at the beach below the lighthouse.

The best photo ops in Oregon

By rockhound13 |

This is a must see to any trip to the oregon coast. Stopped at the overlook 3 times during trip this time round. We have seen sea lions lying on the beach in years past. Spent 1 evening on the beach below watching the sunset.

Take a look

By beentheredonethatia |

Went with travel group. Interesting history. Porto potty at top, hit bathroom in p lot. Flowers and views on switchbacks, nice signage. Room open with historical items. Go on trail above lighthouse area for nice view. Bridge under construction but didn’t effect us.

Beautiful Beach and Lighthouse

By DoloresJacoby.Let’sTravel.98368 |

This Lighthouse can be seen from the Pacific Coast Highway and it’s a quick turn off the right, navigate under the bridge and beautiful beach with ample parking. It’s a half mile hike up the hill to visit. It was such an important Lighthouse in the Oregon coast built in the 1800s. Worth the stop.

Nice Time to Relax

By PerSay |

Went with friends to hang out at Yachats. During our stay, we visited this lighthouse. It was smaller than I thought it would be, but very beautiful. I understand you can stay at the caretaker's house. That would be fun to do. It's a great location, close to the beach on town.

Absolute must-see!!

By Lady Gigglemug |

Definite must-see on any Oregon’s Coast trip! This Victorian-era lighthouse is supposedly the most photographed lighthouse in the US, and I can see why! I took a ridiculous amount of pictures as it was the perfect place to experiment with my new camera!

There’s plenty of paved parking near another photogenic area with a huge bridge at the end of a short windy road. It’s $5 to park for the day. There’s a couple of bathrooms next to the parking lot too. I used one of them and it was fairly decent but no running water...it’s a chemical toilet with hand sanitizer, but was ok.

The short walk up to the lighthouse (about 1/2 mile) is a paved walkway with a slight elevation gain. Along the way you can stop and see what’s left of the light keepers’ homes as there’s only one of three buildings left on site. The building is now a beautiful B&B! I’m definitely dreaming of coming back and staying here someday! The grounds are so beautiful and serene! There are also plaques scattered around that tell you about the history and other information about the area and the lighthouse, etc.

Continue up the path and check out the lighthouse itself! Wish we could go inside! It was lovely with its moss-covered red rooftops and bright, “first-order” fresnel lens, still in use and the brightest on the Oregon coast, projecting 21 miles out!

We continued up the trail and got some great shots looking down onto the top of the lighthouse as well! The trail continues on for 2 miles total and takes you all the way to hobbit beach. It was an absolutely fascinating hike! I felt like I was walking through the Shire in LOTR! Highly recommend doing the while hike but be aware that it’s 4 miles total with just over 1,000 feet elevation gain...but you’ll do that twice. There a lot of narrow pathways with steep steps and hills and roots and rocks! So worth it though! See my review of The Hobbit Beach Trail for more info!

Stop to see Heceta Head Lighthouse at the Scenic Spot just South of the Lighthouse

By Rockfortress |

To get the best view of Heceta Head Lighthouse, stop at 'Heceta Head Lighthouse State Scenic Viewpoint' which is just south of the lighthouse right off of Hwy 101. Not only can you see the lighthouse but if you look below, you'll see hundreds of seals playing in the water or sunning on the beach.

Although we did drive right up to the parking of Heceta Head Lighthouse, we didn't take the walk up to the lighthouse itself as we didn't have time. We did take more pictures from that viewpoint, but the scenic spot mentioned above is better for capturing the lighthouse in its entirety.

Gorgeous

By TravelinSuz |

Great setting, so scenic. The lighthouse is picturesque. Great photo opportunities. Great place to visit and there’s so many cool things I learned.

Beautiful views

By robert b |

Amazing views of the ocean in the coast the jagged rocks the sea life well worth the drive. We came in from the south and the turn off is not very well marked but when you see the lighthouse you can pull over on 101 if you go to the lighthouse itself it's really amazing

Great views

By dgwe |

We stopped at the lighthouse park. Wandered the beach and looked at the bridge. Didn't climb to the lighthouse. Nice beach. On our way south we stopped at a view point to look back. Great view of the lighthouse (barely see it from the beach) and the rocks below were covered with sea lions.

Heceta Lighthouse

Must do when your in Florence. Although the lighthouse was closed for service, beautiful view up top. Volunteers providing history of the lighthouse.

Amazing

By Laura |

We stop here every time we’re in the area and it never disappoints. The views are spectacular. The hiking trails are pretty easy to navigate. Highly recommend. You won’t be disappointed. Plenty of parking

Love this place!!!

By tyrnie |

I love to take the family here. There's not much in the tide pools, but it is still fun. The ocean isn't quite as crazy here. Sometimes you can see seals playing in the waves.

Great views

By JEAN MARC L |

Worth the stop. Iconic photograph of lighthouse. You can no longer go up the lighthouse. Basically, you see the lighthouse from the outside. Park volunteers were helpful with taking pictures and answering questions.

Iconic, stunning Ighthouse

By annika23 |

The lighthouse is breathtaking. One of the most beautiful in the country. Not to be missed. If you have time, make sure to take the wal up to see the light keeper cottage. It is reported to be haunted. It is not scary to visit though.

Awesome

By tawny1956 |

A must see location along 101. The lighthouse can be seen in the distance from Seal Cave. You can drive to the Washburne State Park and take a short but steep hike up to the lighthouse.

Awesome Light house

By Vandigirl |

Was a lovely hike up to the lighthouse. It's TRUE you cant go in but it's still worth it for the photos alone. A MUST SEE place to visit in Florence.

Breathtaking views!

By elf1717 |

The area around Heceta Head lighthouse is absolutely gorgeous. Take some time to enjoy the area around the trail to the lighthouse. Love this place!!

Fabulous views and interesting place

By Nathan M |

It's a short uphill walk to the lighthouse or down to the beach. Volunteers at Lighthouse are knowledgeable and friendly. When we visited (9/19) you couldn't go into the lighthouse because of repairs. It appears you can never go to the top where the lens is because it's still a working lighthouse. The views are spectacular.

Beatiful viewpoint. The lighthouse is so pretty

By shewholovestoeat |

Nice place to stop and to a little hike to lighthouse. Cool caretakers house on site too. There were rangers to answer questions and a group observing the sea lions near the cave. Was fun to have them talk about the wildlife as you observe them.

Lots of birds in the nearby rocks too.

Picturesque Lighthouse

By Lynn G |

We walk the half mile trail up to visit the lighthouse several times a year. Took visiting family up this time & were disappointed to find the light shrouded. It's good they were protecting the lens from repair work, but it disappointed our photographer son-in-law. Lovely walk though on a wide gentle trail. The blackberries are ripe, & the views unsurpassed. Saw a humpback whale feeding down below.

Grey Day

By flametamer911 |

Even though we not socked in with fog, the clouds were low and grey. It would have been a spectacular view on a sunny day.

Very beautiful scenary

By Jennifer H |

1/2 mile walk to the lighthouse. Very lovely hike. Can’t go in the lighthouse, but can go in the two small buildings by it, and there’s a video and pictures telling the story of it. There were two volunteers talking to tourists outside. Back down the hill, there’s a gift shop.

Great views

By lodge437466 |

The entry to the lighthouse is free but the parking at the beach is $5. The weather was great and the views were stunning. Walk up the hill to the lighthouse. On the way pass the Assistant Lightkeeper's house and a small gift store. The walk is not strenuous and takes less than 10 minutes and is well worth it for the views.

Fantastic views from the top

By Robby G C |

I liked the hike to see the Heceta Head Lighthouse. We walked by a Bed and Breakfast.

Once at the top, we found the beautiful lighthouse and three homes. One of the home was in connection with the lighthouse.

Behind the Heceta Head Lighthouse, there are lots of trees. In front of the Heceta Head Lighthouse is the Pacific Ocean. There is a massive boulder nearby the lighthouse.

We stood there enjoying ourselves.

We could see the beach with is massive boulders in the ocean. it was beautiful!

This is a must see!

Always a favorite

By WestCoastRestless |

The docented tours are close right now, but still offers views to die for. Easy to social distance. You can access from the Heceta Head beach, or walk over from the Hobbit Trail trailhead.

Glorious Old Heceta

Beautiful view from the coastal 101 along with ocean views as far as the eyes could see. Spectacular!
No admission fee from 101 of course & see. Clearly in its splendor.

Hike to Heceta

By MissMem |

It's an easy hike up to this well preserved lighthouse. There are great views and interesting plants and birds along the way. The caretakers house is an added attraction but like the lighthouse was not open for viewing due to Covid. Historical markers add interesting information. It's still worth the visit.

Get the Oregon Pacific Coast Passport First!!!

By OAW |

This is a great stop. It is $5 to park. SO before you stop here...stop by Cape Perpetua Visitor Center. Go inside and get the Oregon Pacific Coast Passport FIRST! It is $10 for a bunch of different places along the coast in a five day time span (including this lighthouse). Then do the lighthouse and the hike to the beach...a little bit of work, but worth the reward! OR stay at Cape Perpetua and do the hikes there to Rock Wall and Giant Spruce trails...WORTH THE HIKES! Then go to the Heceta. Both can be done in the same day!

Beautiful Lighthouse!!

By Deanna S |

The lighthouse is such a fun ,easy hike. Even more exciting when you can actually go up in the light house. Not sure what the hours are. Seems very hit and miss. The little gift shop is usually open, which is nice. We hiked it with my aunt, needing hip surgery, and was actually able to have her wait at the lightkeeper's house while we went down and got the car, then drove around to pick her up. That house is now a B and B, so sadly you can't go in. Although in the past they have had a Christmas event there that was really fun. One of our favorite views and places to go.

Much To See In One Stop

By RunningInGrace |

My honey and I always stop here when we travel and never get tired of doing so. It's a very well-maintained lighthouse, bridge, beach, road, facilities. We don't have this in California! The beach is small, cozy, scenic, sheltered, and while we were here recently a sea lion decided to park herself smack dab in the middle of the beach and take a nap. Ya wanna respect the wildlife protocol. Neat blue rocks line the stream leading to the beach under the bridge. The trail to the lighthouse is a haul for a couch potato, but do-able, short, very pleasant. Spectacular views as you ascend and a lightkeepers house to peruse before you get to said lighthouse. Also another trail above the main one, but be careful. I would check the website for days and times for tours before you go if you want to catch one. The guides are really cool people and informative.

Take the tour inside the lower level

By knitnerd |

Our tour guide, Gypsy was very knowledgeable and had a good presentation. It was helpful to see all her photographs and hear the gentle hum of the rotating lens above. One thing I would not have expected is that the forest was trimmed back so the keepers could see the light from their houses. It’s really grown back since then!
The walk up is pretty easy, and paved, but after you get to the base, continue up above and behind for the view of the glass. That walk is a bit more difficult.
Thankfully, they were able to remove the lens cover. The day before, the light had to be stopped. When this happens, they need to cover one side of it to prevent fire (!!)

Well Worth the Walk

By Jill Z |

Take a lovely 1/2-mile walk up a fairly steep path to the lighthouse for stunning views, and check out the information placards along the way to learn about what life as a lighthouse keeper was like. Very cool!

Try to get there between 11-2 (winter hours) if you want a tour inside the lighthouse.

Easy to access, lots to see

By bansheecrzy |

This is such a photogenic spot! Not only can you actually go in the lighthouse, but the views are amazing and everything is easy to get to. It's a short half mile walk to the lighthouse, and not too steep on a well maintained gravel trail. It has very interesting history as well. Aside from the lighthouse is the little inlet, creek and beach with the historic bridge in the back. All great for photographers! The turns into the area are on both sides of highway 101, make sure you use the correct one when leaving so you don't have to cross the highway which can be dangerous. You can also hike to hobbit beach from the lighthouse. Love this area.

Lighthouse

By apen51 |

A little tricky to find but we’ll worth it. Beach is right by the parking lot. Approximately 1/2 mile trek to the lighthouse. We’ll worth the climb in so much as it is very picturesque. Would go again!

Must go here!

All the lighthouses on the Oregon coast are wonders. Actually all are worth visiting. While you are visiting, also take time to read the info regarding their history!

Just OK

By INTUNE-EC |

Very crowded, parking lot was packed, and lots of folks had trouble with the parking pass machine. Spent a little while taking in the views. Nothing was open for visits.

Pretty!

By bcasey1 |

We didn't hike to this lighthouse, but rather had a perfect view from Sea Lions Cave. Loved the setting in the Pacific and one the cliffs with a waterfall, from our perspective. Next time we will stop in the state oark and hike to a closer viewpoint.

Fun & Interesting

By tecomac |

A couple of highlights from our visit....

- the lighthouse lens is fascinating, walk up the adjacent trail up the hill until you’re at the same elevation as the light, then you can see into the room where the light is at and really get a good appreciation for the complexity of the special lens!

- spend some time watching the waves crashing on the rocks below, quite impressive and very photogenic!

Most Photographed Lighthouse in Oregon - $5 Day Use Fee

By PandaHouston |

During our road trip up the Oregon Coast, we drove from Bandon to visit the Heceta Head Lighthouse at around 1 pm on Monday, 7/26. Had no issues finding parking. There is a machine in the parking lot which takes credit cards for you to purchase a day use pass for $5 so you can place this on your dash.

The area was somewhat crowded but not too bad. The walk to the lighthouse is less than 1 mile round trip and it was very easy. We spent less than hour here before proceeding to our next stop on the Coast.

This is the most photographed lighthouse in Oregon!

Worth stopping!

By kansastraveler42 |

Fun side trip off the highway. It is about a 1/2 mile hike to the lighthouse. The views of the Pacific are awesome from the lighthouse!

Nice Tour and you will absolutely thank yourself for visiting

By Dennis Patrick S |

Nice Tour and you will absolutely thank yourself for visiting, taking pictures, and videotaping the breathtaking panoramic views...and consider making reservations at the B&B ahead of time prior to your visit.

Great Views

By Bobbi S |

Beach to enjoy during low tide, quick little hike up to the light house and a gift shop. There are bathrooms at the parking lot. $5 to park.

Beautiful lighthouse

By sandi4213 |

The views are gorgeous all along the 1/2 mile walk to the lighthouse. Unfortunately, there was no access to the inside of the lighthouse and the light was off due to maintenance. The lighthouse was beautiful, though, and we enjoyed the short hike and the views.

Great Place to Hike and View a Beautiful Ocean

By Mary |

Highly recommend this wonderful place to hike and enjoy the wonderful views. Plenty of parking for cars and RVs. Walking paths are groomed and neatly kept. The lighthouse is quite majestic and the view breathtaking. There is also a light keepers house that has been turned into a bed and breakfast. Pretty awesome.

Beautiful on the Coast

By Eva S |

Stunning. We enjoyed the whole area -- a beautiful bridge, a wonderful sweep of beach, incredible caves on the beach, the lighthouse on a cliff. And the light is so bright.

Lovely gem on the coast

By T&G TB |

Worth spending a bit of time to stop and walk up to the lighthouse. If the mist is willing there are great views up and down coast. The car park can get very busy so best to make this a mid morning stop if you can.

Visited about half an hour before the sun went down. This gave plenty of time to hike the quarter mile up the hill, take photos of the lighthouse itself in natural light, and hike back down to the beach to see the flashing light in all its glory in the fading daylight.
$5 parking at the base of the trail and beach. Very accessible for strollers or wheelchairs.

Another beauty of a lighthouse

By northernk |

this one is a bit of an uphill hike on a nice paved path, with lots of trees for shading. Unfortunately we arrived too late for an up close view but it's a beautiful lighthouse and caretaker home which on this one is not right next to the lighthouse but you do walk past it on way up. Highly recommended and beautiful area.

Beautiful view

By Kevin G |

Stopped in on our drive on hwy 101. $5 fee because it is a state park. Nice beach and restrooms. It was about 1/2 mile walk uphill to lighthouse, not a hard walk at all. The view was amazing. Lighthouse tours were not opening due to Covid

Must see

By lucycan |

Great area. Beach access and parking lot under the bridge. Walk 1/2 mile up to the lighthouse. Lots to see.

Nice scenery

By TAMAN1951 |

Viewing a lighthouse is always cool.

The hike from the parking lot is a bit much for me but maybe not most.

Amazing beauty in the surrounding area.

Worth a stop if you are in the area.

Wonderful views from this lighthouse

By JaneyZee |

This lighthouse was on my list of lights to visit for about 20 years. So glad I finally got to see it. The views from behind the lighthouse were spectacular. The climb up wasn’t too strenuous for this senior citizen and it’s worth going up behind the light to see it from that perspective. Great lighthouse to visit.

Closed but beach was worth the trip

By Cheyb29 |

The walk to the base of the lighthouse was nice. Even though we couldn't climb to the top of the lighthouse, the pictures at the bottom were worth it. The views were spectacular and worth the trip. The beach was a little busy, but plenty of room for everyone to keep their distance. My daughter had a great time playing in the sand and water. There were beautiful coves and picnic areas. The old home for the lighthouse worker would have been neat to tour inside. There was a small gift shop with snacks, but we didn't enter. Free ample parking where we stopped for lunch.

Beautiful, But Disappointing

By Donna S |

Still worth a stop and the 1/2 mile from the parking lot because of the views and interpretive signs. However, it's gravely disappointing that the park service decided to rent out the lightkeeper's house to a bed and breakfast business. In fact, if you click on the link for Heceta Head Lighthouse in T.A. you are taken to the website for the B and B. Kind of tricky and a little weird. Still definitely worth a stop though.

Not amazing but worth a stop.

By Lomunchi |

All the areas around here are beautiful and this stop as well. It's a moderate walk up to the lighthouse. Not much to see up there, it was closed. It sounds like it's usually closed. The best part, though, was the tour of the lighthouse keepers house. Very nicely done by volunteer. About a half hour. Casual and informative. The hours is nicely presented with proper era furnishings etc. It's worth a stop but don't go out of your way to see it.

Pretty, pretty place

By IdahoKid |

Did not do a tour of the lighthouse, which they do offer, but spent a little time parked there enjoying the view. Not worth a big effort, but it is a pleasant place to visit, especially on a sunny day.

Beautiful weather, deserted beach!

By David R |

We walked on the beach and had the whole place to ourselves although there were plenty of cars in the parking lot most people were going up to the light Keeper's House we walked through the sand and the waves and it was beautiful

Classic lighthouse with nice views.

By travelgalTacoma |

Lovely walk through the forest on a wide trail to the lighthouse. There is a cute well stocked gift shop on the way from the parking lot too. Lovely views of the coast in both directions.

Worth the stop!

By N_Racing56 |

Once you find a parking spot this place is well worth the stop. The beach is amazing as is the view. Take the hike up the hillside to the lighthouse and you will not be disappointed. We saw whales breaching and seals laying around. We meet a few volunteers that were willing to take our picture and answer any questions we had. Excellent stop on our trip and we should have spent more time here instead of the dunes.

So pretty

By Vahagn K |

I am so glad i decided to not stay at the bottom on the beach. The hike to the lightbouse is stunning. You are completely surrounded by trees the whole time and the air is so refreshing. At the top, you have the option to keep going on the trail but i am not sure where that keeps going so I turned back. If you decide to keep going, i recommend doing some research before doing so.

Great view even in the rain

By Wade L |

Parked and waited for a lull in the rain before taking the pathway to the bed & breakfast then up to the lighthouse. Expect to pay a nominal parking fee but no fee for the lighthouse. Interesting history and a great view!

Beautiful

By MamaS14 |

So this was another unplanned stop and we didnt walk up to the lighthouse :( because I didn't have the 5 dollars. We spent some time on the beach taking pictures and I will definitely say its beautiful. It wasn't crowded and I felt safe letting my little kids walk on the beach. They found hubdreds of crab shells which was neat. Definietly plan on going back so we can see the light house and play on the beach again. Loved it.

The sounds of the ocean waves and birds are very peaceful.

By FFC I |

The sound of the ocean and birds is very peaceful.

The many blackberries along the walk were delicious.

The trail above the lighthouse provides a lovely view.

Most beautiful lighthouse. My favorite place on planet earth, and yes I have been to Prague.

By Lanamamaomaha |

There is a small river, a small beach, some big rock formations, a lighthouse, a bridge, a tunnel, and a scenic viewpoint to look back on where you have been up at the lighthouse! The walk up is all up hill so that could be difficult for some. However, it is a beautiful peaceful place if you can catch it by yourself. Later in the day, when most travelers of the Oregon coast have settled in for the evening, you can catch the trail up all alone. I have been lucky enough to do so on several occasions. Watching the sun shimmer over the water as you sit on ground looking west is breathtaking. Also, sitting on the bench looking towards the south at the vista towards the sea lion caves is just amazing, seeing how high up the cliffs are above the ocean, when just miles ahead or behind you might run into a long sandy beach. Imagine all of the places on earth and all of the people on earth but for a brief time you might have this one amazing creation and vista all to yourself. I can find no more peaceful place than this, but I imagine it is partly because a lot of people pass by before they realize they have missed it. Also, the prime time of the day the parking can be difficult. It is the best 5 dollars I can spend on the Oregon coast, but of course I am partial to it. It is a good place to close ones eyes and listen to the quiet. During the daytime hours it is possible to go up into the lighthouse. I have done that in the past, and it is pretty nice, but I prefer it when there is nobody else around.

Worth the Stop

By Thomas |

Cant pass this one by. Its a fantastic area, lots to do sit on the beach and watch the tide roll in or explore the rocks if its low tide, or you can follow the creek back the flows down to the ocean. There is also hiking trails up to the lighthouse, and then on to the hobbit trail Nice area

Always Breathtaking!

By Abbyz_Friend |

We visit this lighthouse every time we travel along the Oregon Coast. It is one of the most beautiful stops, and the views of the ocean from the base of the lighthouse are amazing. It is just a short walk from the parking lot, and there are bathrooms at the parking lot too that are usually pretty clean. I love stopping at the gift shop and the light keeper's house. Every park staff is friendly and knowledgeable, making the experience even more pleasant.

Recommend going

Amazing views, great beach

By Diane B |

This stop right off of highway 101 north of Florence, OR is well worth a visit. Take the steep lighthouse trail up behind the lighthouse for magnificent views. The beach has a creek running into it, and a mix of cobbles and sand.

Great views, easy hike

By Crystal C |

This was a nice and easy hike with great views at the top. Well worth the stop. Plenty of available parking.

Lighthouse! You can't go wrong!

By Cjfoto |

I love lighthouses, in all shapes and forms. I live near one!
This is a lovely one to visit. Get there early for parking at the beach and then an easy walk up the hill to the lighthouse. Nice little gift shop halfway up, next to the B&B.

Favorite Lighthouse on the Oregon Coast!

By Jim B |

This has always been our favorite lighthouse on the Oregon Coast and is a must see stop when we are travelling through here.

The setting of the lighthouse on the cliff above the Pacific is spectacular, as is the scenery looking out from there once you walk the short trail up to it.

Tours are not operating and the small visitor center and gift shop are closed right now, but it is still a great stop for the views.

Nice Stop Along the Coast

By julijoyeux |

Enjoyable 30 minutes walking the cove beach below the lighthouse and seeing the waves and shore crabs. Kinda spooky with mist and clouds...very photogenic with the highway bridge above. Easy access.

Definite bucket list site!

By Christine C |

Amazing and surreal! You only have to pay $5 parking. The trail leading to the lighthouse is at the end of the parking lot and is not challenging at all, and is totally worth the small hike. The view is amazing. If you're up for it you can give the 'hobbit's' trail a go, which is more challenging but even more breathtaking. Definite bucket list site!

gorgeous

By kateofyork65 |

I have been to this site 3 times and it still blows me away. there is a beach, tide pools, a walk up to the working light house and tours.

Must see Light House

By James W |

It is the 125th anniversary of the light house. Beautiful beach scenery. A non strenuous hike up to light house. You can tour the residence where the original light house master lived You can not go up the actual light house itself. The tour of the residence is well worth the time. There is a wonderful gift shop located in the original horse barn.

Fun short hikes

By MichaleneSW |

Great beach, views, and short hiking trail for the whole family. Nice sheltered cove with views of an old bridge and a nicely kept lighthouse.

One of my Favorite Lighthouses to Visit

By Colin Archibald |

Take the time to hike from the parking lot up to the lighthouse. It is a beautiful hike with views of the water, wildlife, and forest. Stop and see the the Lightkeeper's house on the way up. The lightkeeper's house is now a Bed & Breakfast. This a great place for photographic buffs.

Not very helpful

By Jwilltellu |

So we heard this was a must stay at place and I’m going to say “i dint think so”
You pay for the view.
The hospitality is just not there
The staff not very friendly and not friendly at all
My firiend raved about the fabulous breakfast but i didn’t get it: bagels out of a package. Cmon, a little more effort all around might push the rating a bit higher

Most photographed lighthouse in Oregon

By SnowyShasta |

Or so we were told, that more people take photographs of this lighthouse than any other in Oregon. I'm not sure how you prove that, but it was definitely a pretty sight and a worthwhile stop.

We parked in the lot, which requires a $5 fee (our NW Forest Pass and state park pass didn't apply) - the machine took credit cards only. There were restrooms and also a nice sandy beach. We walked the trail, about half a mile, up to the light itself. There was a gift shop partway up, and then the light itself at the end of the trail. It was closed for maintenance (although normally you can go inside) but they did have a small museum open with a few artifacts and a staffer there to answer questions.

We were glad to stop in and see the lighthouse and enjoy walking the trail. You can also stop at a pullout just across the bridge to the south and get very pretty views of the lighthouse and coastline looking back at it.

Pretty lighthouse

By Steve H |

Big parking lot. Pit toilets. $5 parking fee via credit card machine. One half mile hike up to lighthouse, most of it paved. Nice pictures of the lighthouse with a zoom lens from a highway pullout about 1/4 mile south on Hwy 101, right before Sea Lion Caves.

Most Iconic Lighthouses and it's right here!

By Craig and Shirl... T |

I have a couple pictures of this beautiful lighthouse, love what they stand for, and if I don't get to it, I will ALWAYS look and wait for that "BLINK" when watching from Heceta Beach and Driftwood Shores area. Count slowly,,,, I get to 9 and there she is again! May all those on our waters be safe.

Stopped at every lighthouse

By rockyisle |

Another beautiful gem - just hard to get to... We took pictures from the beach. Don't miss it. Hike up if you can.

Nice little hike

By Emkaye8 |

You can go in the building but not up the stairs. It’s still a beautiful view fro. The top of the hill. $5 to park and hike and hang out at the beach.

Cold rainy day

By ki0ki |

Cold rainy day is perfect for a lighthouse. Viewed it from afar. Half mile hike to see it but wasn't sure it would be open.

Beautiful lighthouse next to a beautiful beach

By Davigeta |

We did not go in the lighthouse, but it is a beautiful one. The adjacent beach is pretty and a creek empties into the ocean there. Very scenic!

Do not miss this lighthouse

By PJABerry |

Even so that the combination fog/smoke (from the California fires) we had a good view of the coast line, unfortunately we couldn't go to the top due to renovation, oh well next time.

One of my favorites

By Megan C |

One of my favorite beaches to take out of state friends and family to! An easy hike to the lighthouse provides out-of-this-world views of the gorgeous Oregon Coast.

Lighthouse and heceta trail nearby one of favorite spots on Oregon coast

By ZMAN3411 |

We loved hiking around this lighthouse and then reading about the history of it. It’s a beautiful area and loved the gift shop by the B&B as well.

Easily my favorite Oregon lighthouse

By Colleen C |

My husband and I were in Oregon in early September, and after a long day of traveling down the coast, this was our last stop for the day. We arrived not too long before sunset. Although we missed all of the tours, etc, we were treated to the most beautiful sunset, followed by watching the lighthouse lamp light up and start its sentry for the night. The lighthouse is so beautifully maintained, and the whole park (the lighthouse, the keeper's house - now a bed and breakfast, the path, the beach, even the big bridge close by) were amazing. This was hands down one of my favorite stops during our time in Oregon. I am a huge history buff, so I was sad to miss the personal history lessons that come with docents and staff members, but the sunset and to see the lighthouse light up so close and personal was absolutely worth it!

We took the tour

By Robert G |

Volunteers in the gift shop give tours of the lighthouse and this was a not to miss experience. You get to go all the way up and see the workings of an active lighthouse.

Spring/Fall Trip Instead?

By Matty_Stuart |

If you've read my reviews of other places on the OR coast, you'll likely notice a trend; someone told me to go to a spot, I assumed it was "secret" or something along those lines, then I figured out this was not the case, the same applies here. That doesn't totally ruin a place obviously, and this is a lesson in expectation management ultimately.

Bring cash to pay at the far lot in case there isn't space in the main one that has the digital pay station(why there isn't two I don't know.) The lighthouse is pretty cool, I can dig a good light house. Behind it is the trail to the beach, which offers a beautiful place to wander. You could probably go for miles and still not find the end of it. I noticed in the midst of the hike that there's a spot on 101 that you can stop at to hike down and it cuts the trail in half. If you're trying to cut corners, find this spot.

What a view! :)

By bikerwarewolf |

This was one of the many lighthouses we saw as we toured the west coast. They say that you can see whales during certain times of the year, but unfortunately we didn't see any. But the views of the ocean were breath-taking. Lots of hiking around the area too.
