Make sure to take the historical walking tour. We got Joe and he was a town historian. Very large downtown with lots of restaurants and shops

Everywhere we looked there was more Civil War history. The Civil War Medical Museum was top notch. Additionally, we never had a bad meal yet- ate at Sabor De Cuba, Isabella's Cacique, Jojo's, Hootch & Banter, & the Wine Kitchen on Carroll Creek. All superb!

this town 45 miles from washington d.c. and baltimore goes back to the mid 18th century.its citizens burned the ''stamp act'' there is a hessian barracks in the town wjere hessian war prisoners were held in the revolutionary war.president lincoln styaed here during the civile war and te house still stand swhere lafayette made his triumphant visit to the usa in 1824

A lifelong resident of Frederick County, I am amazed now at the changes to downtown! Something for everyone and so peaceful to visit, yet you can feel the excitement and joy of the surroundings! Carroll creek area is gorgeous ,so serene! All the restaurants have really stepped up to make downtown my favorite place to go for a dinner or quick lunch! My only problem...which fabulous place to choose? Ummm

So nice to have a place like this so close to home. A smaller version of San Antonio's River Walk. The Downtown Merchant's do so much to keep this area active, fun and an event for all ages. You should check this out. Especially the first Saturday of every month for events.

Frederick was an important Civil War town as it was used as the medical center for the war. There are many buildings throughout the town of that era most very nicely restored and repurposed into a unique shop or restaurant/cafe. The downtown is a unique mix of charming old South with newer areas of modern well thought out parks and walkways. A great place to stop and spend some time. Lots of antique stores and nightly musical venues.

We were on our way from Washington to Gettysburg and our son suggested wandering around Frederick for lunch. A great suggestion! We particularly enjoyed a huge antiques mall. A very pretty downtown.
The suggestion is the Culinary Tavern for lunch (see my review). Check it out!
2 thumbs up!

Plan more than a couple of hours to walk around downtown Frederick as there are a lot of shops, restaurants and things to see in a walkable area.

What an amazing idea! Music, wine, beer and outdoors. This amazing place its wonderful and the event Alive at 5 its amazing. Im so glad I came before its over. The area its very clean and safe and has the most amazing structures.

Great place to walk, shop, take photos, and grab coffee or food. Highly recommend to stop by the Frederick Visitors Center.

Many restaurants of all kinds from coffee shops to steak houses and everything in between. If you need a haircut or tattoo Patrick street and market st. are loaded with these shops along with bars, boutiques, gift shops , and a walkway along the man made cannal. Just stay away from the methedone clinic about a block away from the canal, there are allot of druggies hanging out there. One thing I did not see there, was the police. I think there should be a better police presence.

excellent place to walk around. check the antique shops and great restaurants. many old stand-bys plus new shops and eateries open up all the time.
First Saturday of the month is a great time to check it out. Shops stay open late and there is a lot to see.

It is a great place to wander and spend time in the downtown along Carroll Creek. The water lilies are always so beautiful, and all the water falls are wonderful.

Downtown Frederick has a huge variety of one of a kind stores on Market or Patrick from which you can delight yourself. But a stroll down the Carroll Creek Promenade is a treat. The gorgeous flowering lilies in the creek draw you. Watching the gold fish swim or listening to the fountains is relaxing. There are plenty of restaurants lining the promenade to quench your thirst or satisfy your palette.

Very quaint little town with a ton of speciality stores, restaurants and events. Alot of historic buildings and culture

So nice to see people out again! Nice to walk along the canal - which has many lily pads with beautiful flowers. Many places to eat/drink...

It’s been almost a year since we have been in Frederick for an afternoon. Really had a good time on our anniversary capped off by a dinner. Enjoyed the Industrial Home design store and some of the nice trendy stores. A few that are just not worthy of the storefront, but Frederick continues to grow and go greater. Nice visit!

Would definitely return, people were so nice here
Great place to eat and shop little places with nice things

Went there on the spur of the moment. We were pleased with the visitors bureau assisting us and suggesting how to spend our day there. It was a beautiful area along the canal with lily pads and ducks and fountains. People were walking their dogs and all. It was very peaceful and beautiful.

Recently took friends to downtown and even though we spent most of the day, we didn't begin to see everything. We did Carroll Creek, checked out the library especially the children's room and the Wizard quilt. Only had time to shop a few stores on E Patrick St but everyone enjoyed the Dancing Bear toy store, lots of fun things that everyone remembered as children and everyone found a gift.

I thoroughly enjoy wandering the streets of downtown Frederick. So many choices of restaurants, boutiques, people-watching, puppy sightings!

We went there on a walking tour and on the day of the Wine Festival. It's a beautiful area. There dozens of nice shops and place to dine.

You will feel like you stepped out of a Thomas Kinkade painting in this quaint little town with fun shopping and delicious restaurants. Park in the parking garage and walk the streets to see all the different options.

There really is quite a good range of places to eat and things to do in DTF( downtown Frederick ).
Lots of great places to eat with a variety of price points and types of food. Best of all it’s very walkable, letting you discover all the little shops and points of interest up close.

We try to visit Frederick at least once a month if not twice. Parking is easy and there are numerous restaurants to dine at. Many shops and hopefully it will keep growing.

Wanting to dine at a famous new restaurant in Historic Frederick, we decided to visit it on St. Patrick's Day. There was some festive moods among visitors that we met!
There was a long line of customers at the restaurant where we wanted to dine. Not wanting to wait, we walked along St. Patrick's Street where there are several restaurants, shops, museum, etc.
After eating lunch at the Serendipity Market & More (please see my related review), we walked around and visited some of the shops. Last place to visit was the Library where we bought cheap items such as books, music CDs, etc. We also had our parking ticket validated here so parking at the garage was FREE.
Tip: Better visit on a nice weather, where walking to visit the various attractions of Historic District is more FUN!

We participated, or tried to participate in the holiday scavenger hunt downtown. It was advertised as kid friendly but my feeling was that the entire downtown area is way more "date night" rather than "family friendly". The sidewalks are too narrow and too uneven to make a stroller reasonable. The shops are super cute and I would have loved to spend more time there. Just not with kids because all spaces are TINY. The displays are gorgeous but lots of breakable items too close to small hands for my comfort. I would like to go back but we visit Frederick for family visits that include a lot of kids so it's probably not going to happen soon.

Not as big of variety of stores as I expected but we had a nice visit. You pay for parking in town but can find free parking if you don’t mind a ten minute walk. Lots of card shops, places to buy hiking boots and other adventure items and a few boutiques. Several nice places to have lunch.

Start at the visitor center and take the self-guided walking tour. Lots of history, a great variety of restaurants, and beautiful architecture. We spent a very enjoyable day and wished we had more time.

Like many historic towns in Maryland, Frederick has been bypassed by the interstate, but if this Saturday was to judge from, Frederick has not been forgotten. The streets through the historic district were busy with car and foot traffic. There is municipal parking to aid visitors. There is a huge variety of food and drink related establishments in the well maintained historic buildings including cafes, restaurants featuring a variety of cuisines, and even whisky tasting venues. The Civil War Medical Museum is a must for learning about the war and more broadly about the history of medicine in the 19th Century. The Historical Society offices and museum are on the national historic registry, and a good place to find out about walking tours. The Lutheran church was open for tours and attested to the German immigrants among the original population. Hood College is very much a part of history and the present. While good Fall weather remains, it is important to use those interstates for easy access to this historic town.

My wife and I always enjoy a stroll in downtown Frederick, we enjoy reviewing the wares in the many unique shops. When you are ready for some food there are numerous resturants to chose from all of which are enjoyable.

I moved here in 2015, renting a small 1 bedroom apt. Over the years, I wasn't sure if I wanted to stay, move into other parts of the DMV. I wanted to be secure with my decision over time, further I wasn't married yet either. Over the years, living here I confirmed that this was the place for me and over the years, a lot of my friends and family have followed me here and are in love. There is so much to do with...First Saturdays, Alive at Five, the festival every weekend it seems like, fairgrounds, big time country concerts, the fair, ghost tours, hike and fishing in the area...the list is endless. Perfect for singles, college students, commuters...

Had a guided tour of the town. It was interesting for a while. Learned some history of the town, but became repetitive after a while. Basically descriptions of the hospitals allocated during the war. Next time would just go on my own and explore.

We were onlly there for 2 evenings and it was dark. Lighting on MArket is very good, a little darker on Patrick St. Out first night was very warm and comfortable, the area was very active. There was a show at the theater downtown, so that added to the number of people. We love the old style buildings, some standing since before the Civil War. The second night still had a few people ou and about, even at 11 pm on a Wednesday night, when it was only abou 60 and raining. There are a lot of little downtown shops and a few small museums there. A lot of nice little bars and restaurants. I would like to have explored the place a little more than our time permitted

Frederick has something for everyone !!!! Hot Air Ballooning, outdoor fun, shops, museums, restaurants, art galleries and views of the mountains.

Busy and yet quaint downtown with great cafes and bistros, along with
unique shopping. We went in upscale home furnishing stores as well as
boutiques and shoe stores.

We walked up and down the downtown area shopping in all the quaint shops. We stopped at Vini Culture for some wine and appetizers. Great place!

The old buildings here are great, and house fun shops and restaurants. You can easily cover it on foot in an afternoon. Great for those who love antique stores.

Carroll Creek walkway is absolutely beautiful, modern and updated. Great venues for restaurants and pub crawling. Convenient parking and safe environment.

We love Downtown Frederick!! So many great restaurants, interesting shops and fun bars! More & more restaurants have or are adding outdoor seating and many have Happy Hours. Love walking along Carrol Creek.

Lots of people from outside of Frederick visit. I like to compare it to 30 years ago at Georgetown. People walking in the downtown area, lots of restaurants, shops, pretty walk along the creek, several parking alternatives and just a very nice place to visit.

Beautiful water plants, great walk and fabulous restaurants/bars.
Bring your camera...downtown Frederick is fun place to visit.

Frederick is loaded with restaurants, shops, museums in a compact area. Parking may be an issue, but it is worth the effort to park, walk around, shop, eat, enjoy. The streets are a bit narrow and the appearance of the town, in general terms, is quaint. Carroll Creek flows through the city. The streamside areas are recently rehabilitated to allow walking and enjoyment of the downtown, while providing some flood protection. Frederick is worth a lengthy daytime visit.

The downtown of Frederick is a wonderful place to walk following the canal and enjoying the area. We have gone a couple of times, christmas where they have lights in various shapes in the canal, fall with the changing leaves and the spring time when things are starting to get green.
It is apleasure to walk the canal and visit the various restaurants and shops that are available. I highly recommend taking an afternoon or a day or two to visit Frederick if you're in the area. I really enjoy the city.
There is a parking garage nearby that provides convenient location.
Safe travels!

We love coming to the walk in downtown Frederick. The artwork is wonderful and it's such a nice retreat. The art museum off the walk is also terrific, and free. (Donations are nice.)

The walks on both sides of the canal are great for enjoying aquatic flowers (lotus, lilies, etc.), 3' long fish (bring stale bread), a Night Heron fishing under a bridge, little waterfalls, benches to rest on and large and smaller fountains, outdoor dining on sushi, Greek food, and other eateries, and above all, admire the trompe l'oeil paintings on the supports of the Community Bridge. Lots of other interesting bridges to keep small children happy too!

Galleries, shops, and eateries. Even has a couple of Tattoo Parlors. The pretzel shop has GREAT product and you should give it a try.

A great mix of old buildings, great restaurants, and fun places to shop. Easy to get around, parking in plenty of garages and it can generally be found on the street. No charge after 5 PM. We felt safe as we travelled about, streets were clean and well lit. The walk along the river is a very nice way to get from place to place.

Carroll Creek Linear Park is beautiful with stone bridges with artwork, pretty water plants and koi fish. Abundant restaurant choices with outside seating options in the area. Especially enjoyed the different ethnic small plates offered at different restaurants. Loved the live entertainment on the street at night. Enjoyed a show at the Weinberg Center.

Had the best time! Pretty scenery, good food, enjoyed the activities. We live in the area but first time exploring. Will do again

Was amazed at the precautions taken by each shop owner during the pandemic. Customers were wearing masks and hand sanitizer was available and requested to be used at each shop. Roads were blocked off for outdoor dining. Was a perfect fall day to enjoy so many great things.

Lovely small town feeling with plenty of things to do and see. First Saturday was a hit all shops open and plenty to do and see and eat... Taking a stroll down the canal/stream that runs through downtown was really nice can't wait to come back and experience it in the springtime. A super friendly town that is welcoming.

Frederick is a shaped like a grid with Market, Church and Patrick std.running parallel and perpendiculat. Going down Church Street is a variety of homes, churches and businesses with a wealth of 19th century history. Frederick was a crosdroafs during the civil War. The hospitL system was started thete by John Letterman. The Carroll Street Park runs through it. There are restaurants to suit every foodies palate Along with antique and curiosity shops. Frederick is a restful getaway for any weekend.Francis Scott Key who wrote the US national anthem was a native son.

We stopped in Frederick on a whim and it was a wonderful visit. I could only wish it had not been in the 90s. We made the best of it and enjoyed this beautiful historic town and especially its Carroll Creek Walk. It was so peasant and very tastefully done with something for everyone, especially those who enjoy a touch of new and old together. There was a lot of shopping and restaurants we did not have a chance to visit but we will definitely return.

A genuinely pretty historic district. Fantastic and timeless architecture. Lots of shops and nice places to eat. And nearby is the Frederick Keys ballpark.

We learned that this is the 2nd largest city in Maryland. This area is filled with restaurants, shopping and professional offices. Very clean. Does have uneven sidewalks for those who this might affect they may find it hard to walk.

Downtown Frederick was a gem. NIce places to eat and have a drink, friendly area to walk to stretch your legs after a road trip. Went to a Frederick Keys game!

I love go g to downtown Frederick walking the streets of this colonial era town. One can see homes from the 1th, 18th and 19th century in just a few blocks. Then when you get hungry you can eat at one of the many fantastic ladies o ally owned restaurant restaurants . Lovely way at to spend an afternoon or evening.

Frederick is an excellennt pllace to spend a day or two. Full of fabulous restaurants and shops to satisfy anyone. So close to DC but so different. Great place to get lost in, a great mix of old and new!

Downtown Frederick is a great place to while away an afternoon - may fun shops to casually look through and many restaurants to choose from. The river path is just a nice place to stroll.

Downtown Frederick Maryland has to be one of the most beautiful places I have seen and I am happy to get to take a stroll there often.

Frederick i\reminds me of a smaller Georgetown in DC. The town is quaint, has history and is abundant with eateries, bar and coffee shops.Walking around on a Saturday, enjoying the sights and Carroll Creek on a sunny day is insightful and pleasant. First Saturday is a good time to people watch, listen to music and walk Carroll Creek.

We walked River Walk to downtown. Its a nice atmosphere with all kinds of cute shops to explore. They had live music in various places on Saturday night which was nice.

The first day we came to Frederick we walked in soaking rain. We liked it so much that we came back the next day to stroll around. So glad we did. We loved the Linear park, and it was a great place to walk our dog.

Love downtown Frederick. Trying to make it down more often. There are ample eateries and Carroll Creek is lovely for a walk.

The downtown is worth just taking your time and see the Historic parts of the city. We are two older couples that could tour the area by foot without any problems. St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church was open for a visit and is absolutely beautiful. So many things to see in this historic city, it's worth a day trip.

While many small town centers are losing out to area malls, Frederick's downtown had an amazing selection of small shops, restaurants, and a theater district. I will definitely be returning to spend more time there.

On an impromptu trip to Frederick, we had several hours to explore the historic area. Not having seen the city for several decades, we were pleasantly surprised at the extent of the refurbishing of older buildings and the variety of shops, bars, and restaurants throughout the area. We didn’t have enough time to get to all of the museums and other attractions in the vicinity, so we’ll have plenty of things to go on a return visit.

Downtown Frederick is the type of town that blends the old with the new with many new and old art galleries and tons and tons of restaurants that cater to every pallet...

What a nice historic city to walk through! There are all kinds of unique shops, places to eat and plenty of people watching opportunities.

I'm seriously thinking of retiring here. Frederick is a lovely town with significant history in a part of MD where the Appalachian Mountains reach their easternmost point in MD. There has been significant urban development in the last decade, addressing the growing population. Carroll Creek has been transformed from a "warehouse" district to a beautiful mutli-use attraction. There is sprawl surrounding the town, but the central district is nicely kept, with tree-lined streets and lots of boutiques and fine dining. There is a college within the town limit. I am not sure about entertainment options, but Washington DC is only one hour away, as is Baltimore.

Absolute beautiful, cute old down town. Lots of cafes and restaurants, shops and river walk so nice. First time we saw colorful water lilies.

They have recently renovated the entire area and have done a great job. The Canal is beautiful along the area where they have a well-maintained water garden. Enjoyable walk

Downtown was a nice place to be. Diverse restaurants and shops, lots of activities and well laid out makes it a great destination area rather than sprawl that has overtaken the region. Well worth the visit

Plenty to do right in the heart of Fredrick. Small local shops of all kinds and many great restaurants to choose from.
You can also take a leisurely stroll down the river walk on a sunny day. Plenty of off street parking in a garage. Well worth a visit or two!

This was our first visit to Frederick and it will certainly not be our last. There is so much to do and so much to see. Nearly any type of cuisine, many different types of shops... and we saw things for sale here that we have not seen before. Basically, if you have an interest in something, you can probably find it here.
One thing that we really liked is that the area is basically flat. So while you need to pay attention to the sidewalk, for people with mobility limitations, much of it is very walkable, especially the walk near the creek and library. Definitely check those out!

The historic district overflows with restaurants and interesting stores. The Carroll Creek linear park lends itself to leisurely walks and relaxation. There are many examples of interesting architecture to admire. Very attractive weekend destination.

Take the walking tour through downtown Frederick, and you will see a wide variety of sights, from stately church spires to a modern art museum, with shops and restaurants thrown in for good measure. The tour starts from the visitors' center, where helpful people will give you a map.
Also, if parking is a problem, Frederick gives up to 3 hours of free parking in the garage on the next block over. Just get the ticket validated in the visitors' center. A great way to get some exercise (tour was about 3 miles) and see the town at the same time. Highly recommended!

the only thing is that at first, it is very hard to navigate the streets since many are one way and you cna go in circles if you haven't been there before. after 2 days, we found our way around much better. we did not get to all the antiques or interesting shops and only sampled 3 restaurants. we will return soon.

The creek is really nice for a short stroll. It is a good walk with a few nice restaurants peppered alongside. The day we visited, there was a concert and lots of people but still we enjoyed a pleasure walk without feeling the crowds.
In the summer, it can be quite hot and in winter, freezing cold. I recommend The Wine Kitchen as a good place to eat, inside or outside. Bring your four-legged friend; s/he will love it too!

This is delightful small downtown with delicious restaurant choices and a variety of shops to keep you well fed and entertained.

Quaint downtown with lots of shops and eateries, from elevated fine dining (VOLT) to bars, pubs, pizzerias and delis. Unique shops ranging from antiques, retro items, vintage clothing, record (vinyl) store, gift shops, tea shops, book store, etc. Spent a perfect girls trip shopping, drinking & eating.
Tip - park in Church St. Lot - whole day was only $5!

There is a romantic flare to walking around in downtown Frederick. There a many restaurants, shops and museums that would prove you can hang out all day as well as all night. I charming place really

Wonderful visit in often overlooked town. If you like civil war history, great place to visit medical civil war museum. Town history very interesting and residents friendly. The canal walk wonderful! Will definitely be back. Only downside is parking, Uber in from hotel to avoid parking ticket.

Frederick has really outdone itself with its downtown Riverwalk. With historic buildings, plantings both in and beside the water, and art throughout the walk, this is not to be missed. Take some time to look at all sides and angles of the art on the arched bridge.

Wife and I decided to take the self-guided walking tour to see the sights and learn about the town. Very enjoyable and informative. Be sure to visit the Frederick Visitors Center first to pick up the pamphlet - and to get up to 3 hours free parking while you walk. Well worth your time.

Really nice area to visit, walk around, shop, have a meal or just have drinks. So many nice places to visit downtown. Most are very good. Walking along the streets or down by the creek is nice. There is plenty of parking, some on street but several parking garages too (a little hidden so look them up).

My husband and I along with our little Cocker/King Charles mix love to spend the afternoon in Frederick. We walk the canal, shop in the stores and have lunch.

We walked all over the historic downtown and loved looking at the older buildings. Very clean with many stores and restaurants.

We love walking along the water and visiting the unique shops and restaurants. Everything was clean and the flowers along the way were well maintained. Having lived in Germany a number of years we loved stopping at the Döner Bistro.

Offers a great choice of places to eat, shop and just browse. Walk along the creek for an afternoon stroll. Downtown Frederick is great.

The Frederick downtown is charming & historic with many historic sights, artwork, the Civil War Medicine Museum (highly recommend), shops & eateries. There is also pretty Carroll Creek Park for picnicking and watching fish & ducks. Definitely stop by the Visitor Center to pick up a walking map to hit all of the key sights.

Nice place to stop for shopping, eating, or just to walking around. There are plenty of options for eating. You can shop on the two main roads (and side streets) but can also sit by the River walk.

Surprising number of good restaurants, nice walking in downtown area along the creekside and through park

Frederick is well worth visiting more than once! This is a lovely historic town with excellent shops and restaurants, a lovely river walk and lots to do. Don't pass it up!

The downtown are kept its own brick houses with nice painted colors. Most of the streets have trees which give charm and also shadow.
You find plenty of craft and antiques shops.
Lovely city

If youre in the area, definitely take some time to walk the streets. Lots of cute shops, and everyone was very nice and friendly. It was kept very nice and clean.

We had so much fun! We can’t wait to visit in warmer weather! So many shops and historic places to visit! We will definitely be going back

I love Frederick! I have not been here to visit it a very long time, but was in town for a week and enjoyed Downtown quite a few times! Shops are a must and just walking around always something to see and learn about, so much history!

We occasionally go to downtown Frederick to stroll. The shops are varied and unique so that there is something for everyone!!!!

Very pretty downtown. Absolutely gorgeous.Super nice area for a family to visit. Beautiful small town charm.

Third or fourth visit today. Great variety of shops and large public parking lots (avoid lots set aside for specific shops). Remarkably cordial and helpful retail shop owners and staff. No great museum-quality choices - but who cares? Just fun shopping. Everyone on the sidewalks is friendly and all smiles. Pet-friendly restaurants and shops everywhere. Narrow streets and odd one way streets make driving interesting. Large delivery trucks park and honk loud horns serve as the only annoyance.

From walking the Carroll Creek Linear Park to visiting restaurant row, downtown Frederick is a quaint little town with something for everyone.

Can take nice walk around Carroll Creek Linear Park, connect to Baker Park for 3 mile circuit. Lots of fun shops and places to eat or get coffee in the area.

If the weather is decent, find a place to park in one of the several garages and spend a weekend afternoon walking around the town. There are many unusual shops and restaurants in the downtown area. Go off of the main streets and wander to some of the historic streets a little way from the downtown center. Pick up a things to see or walking map. There is a quirky, but interesting Museum of Civil War Medicine on East Patrick Street. Find an interesting restuarant for lunch, or dinner. Therr are several choices. Check out the schedule at the Weinberg Thetaer. Maybe a show of interest there.

I love going downtown to Frederick. So many wonderful restaurants to visit. The local shops are so cool too. And the building are so historic. So much to do and so walkable!

Always something going on and plenty to do for any taste, walking, breweries, or good eaties. They have it all.

Downtown Frederick is amazing! I love the culture that it brings to your everyday life. There are so many shops, each one unique in its own way; and there are also so many great restaurants that I recommend! Downtown has many special events too, like every month, the first Saturday of the month, there is a special day filled with sales, concerts, etc.. The whole downtown Frederick area is filled with historic character and charm, and it seems like everytime that I go there, there's a new thing to discover!

Such a beautiful town full of charm and history! Frederick is the situated in a great location to visit many historic sites of the civil war. Within minutes of several battles!

Its a nice town to walk around and spend a day. We when it was a bit colder. It would nicer to visit during summer.

We had a wonderful time celebrating my daughter’s marriage to Vince Kennedy at a very cool venue - the McClintock Distillery. Zach and his team did a wonderful job setting up the place and making everyone feel welcome.

A great downtown area to wander around at leisure. Lots of artsy and clothing boutiques, and lots of food variety. Wander down by the creek and enjoy a different experience. Quaint and modern come together in this unique environment.

This is a fun area to spend an afternoon. Lots of quaint stores and restaurants. There is also a lot of history revolving around the Civil War if you are interested.

I absolutely loved Historic Downtown Frederick! The shops are interesting. The only chain store was a Starbucks, so there was plenty of local flavor.

I lived in Frederick for nearly eight years, and it’s wonderful to see how the town has grown since then without losing any of its history or character. I highly recommend a walk down Church St to Market St to take in both the historic homes, churches, and downtown. Especially beautiful in the spring, as always.

There must be a boatload of really smart, caring people in Frederick. They've thought hard about how to preserve a great old town and the execution of the vision is masterful. Start at the visitor center, where you'll get a free brochure with a map for a walking tour. You can park for free in their lot for 45 minutes, and move your car to a nearby public parking garage, and get 3 hours with a validated ticket from the visitor center.
I saw the Roger B Taney house and law office, the Barbara Fritchie house, the National museum of Civil War Medicine, the Episcopal Church where Francis Scott Key worshipped, the county historical society's museum, the old B and O Railroad station, an historic Catholic church in what was officially a Catholic colony in the colonial era, and a lot more. An array of shops, restaurants, and activities can be found in Frederick, which has two German sister cities.

Along with the shops and restaurants is the walkway along Carroll Creek that runs through town. It had been a few years since we visited and was a good way to spend part of the afternoon.

It reminds me of the Riverwalk at San Antonio with the eateries and music but no boats going up and down the creek.

Had dinner at Lapaz then went over to stroll along the creek. There are lighted boats set up in the creek this year as part of a great fundraising thing. They are calling it “Sailing the Winter Solstice” they are lovely to see and a great way to make money for all the charities they will support too. Highly recommend seeing this as it is a first for Frederick. There are lots of eateries along the creek that we haven’t tried but they are on our to do list. Frederick has come a LONG way.. I’m a lifelong resident and am happy to see the downtown area thriving so well! Love my hometown!!!!

Lots of quaint downtown stores/restaurants/sights. Spent the entire day walking around the area with friends. A must visit if in the area.

A nice place to visit by anyone all over the country. Visiting central Maryland, you'll want to discover lively hometown. It has a very diverse and upbeat atmosphere. There are great restaurants and much scenic beauty including Baker Park, Culler Lake and Carol Creek. Downtown Frederick is home to many great shops. One of our favorite shops is Creme de la Creme. This shop has a lot of French dishware and such. One of our favorite restaurants Downtown is Pretzel and Pizza Creations. IF you stop downtown, go get a pretzel or a scoop of ice cream. Downtown has many more place for you and your family to discover.

We came down again this year to do this tour. We love it. The best of the tour on 2017 was the Catholic church choir. We followed that with a stop at Vineculture. We love this place. Frederick downtown is beautiful and the restaurants phonominal. Love this place.

It is a relatively small town, but has some great restaurants and bars. The shops are interesting and offer variety. The town has a picturesque walkway that goes through the town. We walked along this waterway and found it enjoyable.

Downtown Frederick is one of those places where there are secrets everywhere. The bridge was paintedby an artist (the bridge is at Carroll Creek) where each stone looks real from a distance. As you get closer the murals are realistic. Breath taking

The area is very walkable, with lots of cute boutique shops, unique consignment stores, and restaurants galore. The canal area is very pretty, too! We were able to find street parking pretty easily. I recommend it for a stroll!

Frederick is the perfect place to explore the history of the Civil War. With its museum and historical landmarks, one will be taken back to the place where many fought and died. A must go to place for the history buff.

Great evening out in the historic district of Frederick. An unexpected surprise of this authentic ‘step back in time’. Many shops and assorted restaurants for any cuisine.

How wonderful to have such a nice area to visit in downtown Frederick! It has truly come a long way. A lot of great walking area with shops to visit along the route. SO worth the visit.

What a great little town for strolling. There are plenty of parking garages nearby we only paid $3.00 to park. Lots of unique shops for browsing with everything from tea to home furnishings. Antiques to skate shops....many restaurants, bars, candy, wine, & fine dining choices. Don’t miss the river walk area, and keep an eye out for all the art work on the walls of the buildings. Lots of history in this town to learn about. Baker park has free concerts in the summer& downtown has first Saturday events.
Very safe feeling, well lit, wide sidewalks.

great shops, great restaurants, lovely park areas, friendly people, lots of dogs. Be sure to go for Greek food at OPA on the canal park

Lots of parking! A must walk experience. Many restarants, and small shops. Also dog friendly. Walk along the canal and get a frozen treat. Sit outside and listen to music. Never a dull moment and all the shop owners I visited were super friendly. Even some history sites like the Civil War Medical museum. When visiting Frederick, a definite area to visit.

Downtown Frederick has it all. History, arts, entertainment, dining, unique retail. parks. No matter what you might consider a good day in the city Frederick has it. Shows at the Weinberg, plays at The Met, escape rooms, historic homes, museums. And some of the best restaurants around. No chains in this downtown. Antiques, art stores. I've been many times and it never disappoints.

Very beautiful and historic town to spend some time exploring. The historic district covers more than just two blocks and has lots of good restaurants and shops.

The Visitor Center carries an informative walking tour to complete at your own pace. Highlights in the Community Bridge on Carroll Creek, antique shops galore and several public murals. While you're at it, look for the life-size antique statues of dogs scattered around on various front door steps. I've not seen anything that compares to them.

my husband and I were visiting friends who live near Frederick. We came into town for dinner and to walk by the Riverwalk. It reminded me of our hometown of Lancaster, PA with its thriving restaurants and locally owned shops.

Downtown Frederick has changed over the years, mostly for the better. The Carroll Creek linear park is beautiful, especially at this time of year when the creek is filled with gorgeous water lilies. There are fountains, benches, the tromp l'oeil work on the Community Bridge (which is fantastic), places to eat, and always something going on. There has been gentrification, I guess, which may have pushed some people out, but the result is preservation of lovely old homes on Market Street and the surrounding area. Great walkability to many shops and restaurants, and several parking garages, make for a good day trip or evening out.

It is a pleasure to take a stroll in downtown Frederick. The streets are clean and everything is well maintained, showing that residents make a special effort to show their town to visitors to make it an enjoyable experience. The Carroll Creek Park deserves a special mention because it is such a pleasure to visit.

This was a great place to enjoy outside weather if it is a good day out - shaded in spots and seats to sit and relax.

We have walked along the canal several times while visiting Frederick. It has always been enjoyable and is very pretty. You never know what nice little shop you will discover.

My wife and I spent the weekend in downtown Frederick eating, shopping and generally enjoying the wide variety of historic architecture! What a fabulous town filled with friendly people!!

Downtown Frederick is one of my favorite places to hang out! Whether it is visiting the many local shops, eating at one of the many great restaurants, or a happy hour with friends it is always a great time. Walking down Carrol Creek into Baker Park is beautiful. They have concerts in the summer and every first Friday there are fun events going on. Don't take my word for it...just go. Like I said...doesn't matter what you're in the mood to do...you can do it in downtown Frederick!!!

There is something for everyone to do in the historic part of Frederick. Lots of restaurants and boutique shops. Many pubs and bars with live entertainment at night.

I've had occasion to visit Frederick twice in the last couple of months. Both visits involved meeting friends and having lunch and shopping. We had good meals both times, selecting restaurants on the top 10 listing from Trip Advisor. From there we sent shopping, wandering through the excellent shops and antique stores in the area. I highly recommend Frederick as a place to spend time with friends in a historic, charming town.

Offered lots of shopping opportunities far from the large corporate franchises. I loved supporting the Mom and Pop shops and small businesses.

I've grown up in this area and Frederick is just a wonderful town to visit. It's easy to get to, the surroundings are beautiful (countryside, mountains!) and there are a lot of attractions and places to eat downtown. Very dog friendly too.

There quite a few buildings and attractions that date back to the Civil War. Lots of restaurants of all sorts. Antique malls as well.

When my husband suggested a birthday trip to Frederick Maryland, I asked "where?" and "why?" So glad I learned both answers. Frederick is beautiful historic town with many grand brick buildings and impressive architecture. You can tell it was well planned. It's very walkable with a large park with waterfall fountains and many benches rightdowntown. I'm so happy we visited

Beautiful stroll the streets enjoying being outside taking in the beautiful lights and holiday events .. downtown has grown so much so many wonderful restaurants from a wide range to fit all budgets , somthing for families,or a adult evening out ....

What a wonderful, diverse area just seething with historical interest. During the week you can commute into DC and back (banker's hours, but it's a nice ride). I highly recommend Historic Downtown Frederick and ALL of the surrounding areas (Antietem, Monocacy, Gettysburg even!)

Lines with great shops and restaurants, Downtown Frederick was a great place to spend the day.
The shops are boutique and the restaurants edgy and different. No chain stores to be found (well there is always a Starbucks) but the rest were local and the offering was great.
Busy, felt safe and very pretty in the Fall.

WoW. What à wonderful little place!! The visitor center is also worth a stop!! The covered bridge scenic route is definitely a must (especially by bike)

Historic Downtown Frederick is a wonderful downtown to enjoy shopping, food, bars, and historical landmarks. Pick things you would like to do, park your car and enjoy it. North and South Market Streets have concentration of different kinds of restaurants and bars for everyone. Two blocks off (east and west), visitors can roam the street for more shopping and restaurant with a few landmarks mixed in. Great historic downtown.

Downtown Frederick is so convenient to park and safe and fun to walk the streets and along Carrol Creek. Lots of interesting shops and all manner of great restaurants. Great way to spend a day.

On the day after Christmas the churches of Frederick all have from an open house from 4-9 pm. They have music and cookies and the ambiance is wonderful. A great time is had by all that attend.

Rated as one of the top 25 small cities in America to visit! Great shops, excellent restaurants & walkable.

Beautiful historic city with sites of national historic significance, modern shops and restaurants, and a growing local economy.

Unfortunately we were just passing through and stopped for dinner so our time was limited. Still I couldn't help taking a closer look at Frederick's historic downtown. It was hopping on a busy Friday night. Families with children, older folk and young college kids all filled the sidewalks enjoying the nice weather. There are shops, restaurants and cafes. Beautiful architecture is everywhere and the locals seem to take pride in their city. We felt we were just tasting the frosting of a most delicious cake so we'll definitely be returning with more time to take a big bite out of the cake that is Frederick,MD!

Recently relocated to MD from eastern PA... High selling point was the folks who live in and around Fredrick City and County. Highly recommend stroll downtown, great eats there and in so many surrounding areas.

I think Downtown Frederick is better than downtown Annapolis. Better shopping!
Much better restaurants! For sure, better parking!
History says our downtown is so well-preserved because Frederick was affluent enough to pay the Confederate General Jubal Early $200,000 in ransom so they didn't burn us down. The ransom was delivered in baskets, which were then returned to the families they were borrowed from, which puts the civil in Civil War and is a great visual! It took the city until 1951 to pay back the debt. If you're into Civil War History, you might want to read up on the Battle of the Monocacy, aka the battle that saved Washington. Downtown Frederick is also home to the Civil War Medicine Museum, reputed to be very haunted.
It's a toss up whether the biggest draw in Downtown Frederick is our bars and restaurants (and distillery and breweries!) or our shopping...
Shopping: Really well done Mom & Pop shops rule the streets here! Tiara Day, Retro Metro, Industrial Home, Ecclectibles and my fave - Urban Cottage are just a bare mention. Molly's Meanderings, The Muse, Velvet Lounge....there are so many cute shops here. Whether you like antiques and vintage or tattoos and gift shops....Easily enough for a full day or a weekend. There are two, maybe three areas for shopping. Market Street (which is the main street in Downtown Frederick) and Patrick Street, which crosses Market at what is locally referred to as the "Square Corner." Then there's Shab Row which is just several blocks east of the main downtown area.
Restaurants: Again, Mom & Pop establishments are everywhere! If you're a foodie, try Firestone's or the famous Volt. (Hint: at Volt have a burger at the bar if you don't want the full, and expensive, experience.) The Wine Kitchen with the best outdoor seating in town is wonderful. The tiny, but very chic, Hootch & Banter is great food (think home-made pastrami) and creative drinks! White Rabbit Gastropub is a hidden gem, again great food (poutine!), fantastic bartenders and fun drinks. If you can find it, enjoy! We have everything from Turkish/German street food at Doner Bistro to Chicago Hot Beef at Windy City Red Hots on the Creek to Mediterranean at Ayse Meze on Shab Row. (Try the flaming cheese or the brussel sprouts - really! - at Ayse!) The Tasting Room is good for steak. Everyone loves the rooftop bar at Brewer's Alley. And Isabella's is a great stop for tapas - they're famous for their fried asparagus. You could easily pub crawl and nosh your way across town!
Food specialty shops include The Perfect Truffle - this is absolutely a must-see, one-of-a-kind local place! Zoe's is great too. (Everyone loves The Candy Kitchen but I like the ones I mentioned first best.) Crisafulli's cheese shop is a hidden gem. As is Juliet's for Italian.
Entertainment: There is often live music around and we have events downtown like our famous Fire & Ice in February, which has hundreds of lit ice-sculptures or the Frederick Arts Festival in June. In September, not far from downtown, there's The Great Frederick Fair - a long-standing, old-fashioned agricultural fair. That's a very, classic, old Fredneck yee-haw, dusty experience. Stroll around, look at quilts and giant pumpkins, look at the animals, including the baby animals (like the duckling slide!...have a funnel cake. Or the local specialty which is country ham. I personally don't get it - it's like ham jerky to me - but folks line up for it for sure! The Weinberg Center, an old-fashioned theater has regular attractions from vintage movies to comedians.
Parking: Frederick does a great job providing access with hidden parking garages behind the main streets. The Carroll Creek garage (which is familiarly called the Library garage because it's right next to the public library) is probably most central. But the Court Street and Church Street garages are very convenient too. The East All Saints garage is new and located by the Visitor's Center. The West Patrick garage is on the west side of the courthouse.
So, come visit Downtown Frederick - for shopping or an afternoon pub crawl or both! This is no longer Fred-neck!

The area has somestreets like E. Patrick with lovely restore period buildings and many cafes restaurants bbreweries and quaint shops. Perfect for a family ouitng if you include Carroll Creek Park or a romantic first 'getting to now you' date or just a pleasnant morning or afternoon out.

We came to town to visit a friend the Saturday before Christmas we stopped at two different restaurants Café Nola and a wine bar and we also did some geocaching so went for a stroll along Carroll Creek. I was pleasantly surprised on how well restored downtown is it is beautiful the bridges across the creek a very quaint and European looking there were boats floating in the creek all decorated for Christmas it was a very yuppie and trendy vibe going on. There must’ve been some Christmas dress up party going on at everyone was in ugly sweaters or pajama onesies or Christmas suits barhopping it was very neat and cool. This is my second time to downtown Frederick with friends and each time has been very enjoyable and very surprising not like some old downtown that I run down and bake it with no one hanging out or no cool shops open. I would definitely come back to visit this would even be a neat place to live and be able to walk to so many different interesting stores, shops cafes, bars and wineries.

When my wife suggested Frederick as a day trip from Baltimore I laughed and sighed. But I was wrong. It was a fast, easy drive and about four hours of enjoying a very interesting downtown shopping district and a great Mediterranean meal. Visited the chocolatier featured on The Profit. Walked easily and found lots of wonderful, eclectic works and products. Closed with a visit to an interesting art museum. Highly recommended for day trip from Baltimore or DC.

Beautiful downtown area. Lots of walking paths along canals and beautiful old brick buildings. Wonderful places to eat and lots of them!

The downtown area makes for a good afternoon. Easy access of I-70 and plenty of parking. Plenty of dining options. Nice shopping area including multiple cool record shops.

fun place to grab a drink and some good food! cute boutique shops:) We went to Maryland to Frederick to meet friends for sushi..sushi place was ok...but they have many other cute places to eat and its a nice little town to walk around.

Beautiful city Park at the river. Different architecture, mixing old and modern. There are beautiful murals and they are all explained. The park is great for photography.

Frederick is a quaint town with lots of shops and restaurants....most with outside seating and allow dogs. You can spend a nice day just walking the sidewalks and having lunch/dinner. Most shops are owner operated and unique. Great destination for a day trip!

Took a walk on a warm day through the historic downtown. Info boards are a good guide. Nicely kept buildings. Nice park. Nice area around the stream. All in all: Nice.

Downtown Frederick is a welcoming place to spend a day. The Visitor's Center is very well done and helpful with directions, pamphlets and coupons. The Civil War Museum would be a diversion from the several dozens of Canal Walk is a pleasant change of pace, very attractive with flowers and art work and many canal side restaurants. Street parking an issue but several garages in the heart of the city. Quaint old stores and historic houses and many churches- note the many steeples.

The geography of the area is quite flat and you will have no trouble accessing downtown Frederick with curb cuts and concrete or asphalt sidewalks.
There are parking garages one block away from the main shopping areas and they had regulation sized handicap parking spaces: Carroll Creek Garage on E. Patrick Street (where I parked), Court Street Garage and Church Street Garage.
The main shopping areas are located on north and south market street with adjacent streets offering additional shops and restaurants. However, if you use a wheelchair you will find that most of your time will be spent waiting on your companions as they enter shops.
There are handful of restaurants that I was able to access including these: JoJo's Restaurant and Tap House (accessible bathrooms), La Paz Mexican Restaurant, and nearby on W. Patrick is Serenity Tearoom and Fine Dining. These are the shops I was able to access: The Spice and Tea Exchange, The Record Exchange, Zoe's Chocolate, and Creme de la Creme (eclectic wares).
It is a nice place to visit but plan your stops before going so you don't spend all of your time searching for a place to eat and shop. The VisitFrederick website does have a search option so you can look for 'accessibility' in their listings.

Might be historic, but it's not impressive. Nice canals and bridges, but what really hurts it is the meth-heads parked down by the river, and the numerous shady characters on the streets. Really iffy groups of people- did not expect that at all. Don't let your kids walk ahead or play on their own down near the canal/river.

The light display on Carroll Creek this year is amazing. It’s best seen after dark to get the full effects of all the boats on the water. I walk down both sides of the creek reflects completely different perspectives and well worth the time to do it. The exhibition is without a doubt a great addition to Frederick.

It's a nice place to walk around when the weather is warm. Fredrick has some nice architecture and history. The historic district has some nice shops and restaurants, too.

I live in the outskirts of Frederick and consider myself very lucky to live so close to such s thriving downtown. There is so much to do. Civil War Medical Museum. Carol Creek walkway. Tons of boutique shopping. Antique Mall and many different types of dining. The streets are flat so walking is easy no hills. Lots of parking at the parking decks. The first Saturday of the month special activities are planned and several times a year we have festivals downtown and on the Creek.

Incredibly pretty small town during Christmas time. Festive lights and decor were all over the place. Very clean, safe, and walkable area with good food options.

I have lived in Maryland since 1987 but never visited Frederick. How sad! It is a gorgeous city, and the downtown area is amazing. I plan to come back to spend more time.

We love taking a day trip to Fredrick. We love the cute stores, antique shops and unique pubs and resturants. Even during Covid in the fall, we were able to eat ourside at Brewer's Alley with the heaters on in October. Watching the people strolling by is so much fun.

Downtown seems to be a growing place. There are lots of shops, bars, and restaurants. There were lots of people walking the main street but it wasn't too crowded.

Great place to visit, towns of shops and restaurants Nice place to tale a long walk. strongly recommended
strongly recommended

We make it a point to go catch Historic Downtown Frederick’s first Saturday night ( easy to remember- it is the 1st Saturday of each month from 3-9 pm)
The shops and art galleries stay open late and there are always fun activities for our many grands (making s’mores in fire pits, doing themed crafts, going to the toy store, walking along the Creek, grabbing an ice cream come..).
When it is not first Saturday- we also drive up to go to Sumatra ( Great Thai food) & Isabella’s (Spanish tapas). Both have outdoor dining which was awesome during Covid.
Lots of speciality shops. Nice galleries.
Great place to take the family. Very friendly people and shopkeepers.

Nice place to spend a couple of hours. Very well preserved old town.
Has a visitor center with very friendly personnel

Enjoy wandering the streets and river side of Frederick. Many places to eat, ease parking and they have many nice events throughout the year.

We had to find something to do before catching a flight at BWI (we were coming in from Harper's Ferry) and this town was an amazing find. The old downtown is really lovely, with tree lined streets, historic buildings, great architecture, clean streets, charming shops. No graffiti in sight. The Carroll Creek Park looks to be a nice example of urban redevelopment with nice gardens, water features, shady places to relax.

Great area for families and singles alike. There a multitude of restaraunts and very often activities on the creek.

All year long, there are many events happening in Frederick County, especially downtown. Enjoy evening or weekend walk to visit nearly a hundred stores, restaurants and wine tasting tour. Check out the signature events at the beautifully restored Weinberg Center for the Arts; we saw the 2 Celos performed there. You have many restaurants to choose, from burger to Thai food or do bars hoping.

What a delightful downtown area filled with charm and character. A stroll along Carol Creek followed by shopping and dining in town makes for a lovely way to spend the day.

Frederick is such a fun town worth lots of owner operated quaint shopping boutiques and chef owned restaurants. All are delightful. Also fun to wander through the long-time antique shops. Don't miss the many artist murals...I especially love the gate to the cellars under the Carroll Creek walkway! And takecyour own Clustered Spires photo from the top of the parking garage next to the Library!!!

Frederick is a model small town. The city center has done a good job of preserving historic facades and spaces, complete with tree-lined streets and a beautifully modernized water feature called Carroll Creek Park near the city center, which is lined with boutiques and restaurants. The many specialty shops are charming, and the bars and bistros each have a character of their own. Cuisines from all over the world can be found in the many restaurants spread all over the historic district. There are no in-town chain hotels, and the B&Bs are pricey, but there are hotel circles nearby, and a 13-minute Uber ride gets you into town without having to worry about parking. Once there, you will find walkable, tree-lined one-way streets and a lively buzz with lots of interesting things to see, hear, smell and eat.

The historic downtown is very quaint with excellent restaurants. Parking is easy (garages are inexpensive). It is easy to imagine what life was like through the years given the architecture and width of the streets. Many interesting stores and churches that date back over 200 years. Loved our visit

I have lived in and around the Maryland DC area for over 25 years and had never visited Frederick. I would highly recommend visiting for the day. Its a very dog friendly town, the people are helpful and nice and if you like art its the place to go. Make sure you visit the visitors center first.

I love an old historic town. That is just what Frederick is. It has shops that carry antiques to formal gowns. The restaurants are numerous and include everything from hamburgers to gourmet dining!

Excellent shops and restaurants for any leisurely time. Parking and walking around town is easy since Market Street is packed with things to do. Perfect atmosphere for couples/romance! Also don't miss a stroll down Carroll Creek.....

We were delighted to find downtown Frederick to be so charming and walkable, with lily pads, fountains and wonderful public artwork, to unique shops and restaurants of all types. The city is full of history with historic homes, churches and museums. There's so much to explore and do that a one-day visit barely allowed us to scratch the surface.

We picked a Sunny gorgeous day to walk around downtown Frederick! Such a nice bunch of eclectic stores with extremely friendly shop owners. Great way to spend a day

The Carroll Creek walk is beautiful, there are lots of local shops and a great selection of food. We love Frederick MD!

This is a very charming downtown with beautiful bridges and walking trails that are relaxing. The restaurant variety offered in this area is impressive.

Downtown Frederick is a wonderful place to visit. Nice restaurants in a safe environment, antique shops and other quaint stores make our city a fun place to visit. Frederick has a lot of historic places and you can visit the National civil war medical museum. Stroll along Carol Creek and enjoy the atmosphere. You will not be disappointed.

I love the canal with water plants and orchestrated water fountain shows. There are multiple bridges, each with a different style. The streets are lined with interesting stores and restaurants. On a Saturday night, there are many happy people having a good time, people watching and being watched.

This is why i love the east coast and these old time civil war era towna. The downtown is all old 1800s buildings. Each with character and each with a story I am sure. It is so cool to walk the streets and just imagine being in an era long gone. Modern eateries, shops and such take residence now but its just the feeling that makes this well worth the visit. If you like history come see it. If you like food come visit. If you are just looking for architecture....visit it!!!!!

There is so much to see and do. Recommend for anyone, outdoor activities, foodies, cyclists, shoppers. A fun town and a good time will be had.

We were able to park and walk around. Visited a museum, and old record shop and an antique store which was really awesome! Look forward to visiting Frederick again!!

Nice to walk along the river - there's not a ton going on in Frederick, beside some up-and-coming restaurants, but it's a pleasant place to walk around

Downtown Frederick has so much to offer; shows at the Weinberg, dining on Market St. & a walk down Carroll Creek. Check out the community bridge with it's faux paint, totally awesome. Summer time we have live music and all year 1st Saturday.

My wife and I walked around downtown Frederick before have dinner. Beautiful streets with nice shops and restaurants. Also nice to walk around Creek. Charming and quaint. Enjoy the stroll

Downtown Frederick Maryland is a revitalized and unique area to take clients for a relaxing and pleasant experience. A variety of different types of contemporary and ethnic restaurants available for many different taste. A clean and non-violent downtown area to visit.

Since our return from Frederick last weekend, I've recommended this quaint town to a number of people I know as a great weekend getaway with the charm of a small town and the culinary prowess of a big city. The downtown area is lovely with many shops, coffee houses, the spectacular Carrol Creek area and restaurants galore, one better than the next. Easy to navigate, and very walkable. The Carrol Creek area is particularly nice, a canal walkway with ducks and water lillys bounded by some restaurants and wine bars. It's a great place to walk or to sit and relax. Town has many great places to shop, including a very good indie bookstore. The history of the town is evident in its placards, many detailing its role in the Civil War, and in the downtown museum of Civil War history. This is definitely a great place to visit, and will take at least two days to do it justice (and try more of the restaurants).

Very, very nice. We walked along the water and visited a few businesses. I really enjoyed the atmosphere.

Very pretty town with some lovely architecture and a river running through it filled with water lilies. A day here was enough for us to explore it by foot.

We very much enjoyed using the Downtown Frederick Walking Tour we picked up at the Visitor Center as a guide. This historic area is punctuated by some truly relaxing and beautiful areas, including the Carroll Creek Park. The water lilies, walking areas, and bridges are picture-perfect and a perfect place for a picnic or to sit and watch the world go by.

Didn't know Frederick had a small riverwalk. it was very nice. saw a bunch of ducks swimming and fishes. Bunch of fountains. It was very lovely.
We were delighted to find downtown Frederick to be so charming and walkable.

Wonderful for all ages, downtown Frederick has it all. Local art and history collide right on the street. Great eats and places to hang all times of day. Took a day to walk with the kids and we were all fascinated by the big fish in the creek and all the different art installations. With a map from the visitor ‘s center, another great stop, we were never lost.

Plenty of great small shops to enjoy! Food is great, and local fare makes for a great place to visit.

Great if you like history, and a beautiful place to wander, even if you don't. The flowers along the river walk are beautiful. There are plenty of places to explore, plaques to read, places to eat at, and interesting period-specific architecture.

Excelent historic town; good restaurants and all kind of stores. You can have a quiet walk, admiring the buildings facades

But it works.... It is definitely a cool area, with this reimagined linear park, with old buildings repurposed on both sides of a canal, with unique sculptural bridges crossing.

Frederick is bigger than I expected. There is a great mix of old and new architecture and a lovely “river walk.” We will return often to explore the stores and restaurants.

Lots unique and friendly shops. Great places to eat. I thought fireplace tavern was outstanding lunch place. A must do.

There is so much to do in downtown Frederick! From specialty shops to outstanding restaurants. You'll find fine dining, ethnic fare, wine shops, antique shops, both large and small, and welcoming merchants. If you've never visited downtown Frederick, you owe it to yourself to do so.

Downtown Frederick always has something going on and has something for everyone. Summer concerts, movie nights, festivals, First Saturdays, Fourth of July, etc. The variety of restaurants and types of cuisine offered show the diversity of the city and it's residents.

Spent some time in the area for business and wanted to explore the Frederick downtown area. Didn’t feel real safe, although I did see done law enforcement. Lots of vagrants hanging around one of which stepped in dog poop and was yelling at the top of his lungs telling people to pick up after their pets. Did not feel comfortable and I am a strong and able adult male!!
Not recommending!!

We visited downtown frederick just yesterday.Drove from gettysburg,PA for like 45 mins and arrived at the Visitor Center.Parking is free for three hrs and if you exceed three hrs you will pay additional.I paid 1 dollar because i think we stayed longer..The parking is covered and the visitor center and parking is just a walking distance to the shop and restaurants.

Something for everyone. Great restaurants, unusual shops, interesting architecture and lots of bars and churches to choose from. 1st Saturday each month is always fun.

Most shops were open with strict safety protocols in place. There was a bottle of hand sanitizer at the entrance to every shop we visited with an employee reminding people to hand sanitize and to keep their mask on. Check out the Civil War Museum of Medicine. It was very interesting. All the restaurants had outdoor seating, which was very welcomed in this era of COVID-19.

We had a great stroll for a few hours visiting shops and trying different foods in downtown. We were staying locally and always wanted to see what was in the historic part. The buildings were beautiful and well preserved. The business were kind to us tourist and always welcoming. We will definitely go again next time we are in town.

Love the canal walk, the flowers, ducks & swans. Many really good restaurants, fun & diverse shops and lovely place for a walk. Pet friendly too. Found the cutest knit Viking cap for babies at a handmade local shop.

We weren't expecting too much, but thoroughly enjoyed this walking tour (maps available online & at the visitor center). The river walk section was built for flood control, but it couldn't have been prettier if aesthetics were the only goal - beautifully done. The walk along Carroll Creek from North East St to Memorial Park was a real treat. Beyond that, an historic downtown is a lively mix of young & old, hip & historic. Even on a Monday in the fall with many establishments closed, it felt quite alive. Lovely dinner at JoJo's topped off our evening stroll.

Lovely downtown with lots to do. Restaurants, historic sites and architecture. I loved walking the streets.

A beautiful town with lots of history. Plan a weekend and enjoy all the historical sites in Frederick county.

It’s been almost a year since we have been in Frederick for an afternoon. Stopped by after a hike at Harpers Ferry for lunch. Town is nice, and busy, given the beautiful weather. Like some of the shops, but some of the politics are over the top and not really necessary. Lets try to be united people.
We ate at Isabellas as its a favorite and one of the only foodie places in town. A lot of nice restaurants, but its great.
Park at the Church Street Garage, its cheap, covered, close to everything in town on Market Street, and easy to get in and out of.

A nice place to stroll along the river, or just sit and enjoy the area. Several places to get a bite to eat along the way. The river itself is very attractive.

Great downtown area with shops and dining options. The canal area is lovely to walk. The Visitors' Center has a guide with map historical sites. Parking on the street with meters. Two dollars an hour. Bring plenty of quarters. Also a parking garage nearby.

Great restaurants, shopping, and antiqueing. Friendly people. Beautiful canal and large park close to downtown area.

This area is used for events outside. Currently, there are ship displays in the water that are lit up at night which is nice to see. The water level is not very deep and koi fish are also in the water. Bridges are around the water area to traverse the water area. Lots of shops, restaurants and entertainment downtown.

We so enjoyed our trip to Frederick MD. Lots to see and do. Great vintage and antique shops. And so many food options too! Definitely planning a return visit.
Love the walkway along canal/river

This is a small town with several interesting streets with all kinds of shops. Some of the woman’s clothing shops were quite upscale and not touristy which really adds to the area

I wasn’t aware of how wonderful Frederick is. Boy was I surprised. This is the most beautiful downtown in the day trip and weekend getaway area of the mid Atlantic I’ve visited. Came here for Monacacy battlefield. Stayed an extra day for the food and culture of downtown. Keys baseball was a bonus. The creek park is astounding. What a great place to spend some time.

Beautiful downtown area. Parking can be a bit of a problem if you want something close to your destination. There are a few parking garages around downtown and reasonably priced, just bring your walking shoes. Most of the restaurants were pricier than I was looking for, but there is a great selection of place to eat in the area

Frederick is a wonderful city. You have great restaurants, several theatres with live performances, unique shops, beautiful parks and walking paths, a local ballpark for the Frederick Keys just on the outskirts of town. Many festivals are held about town throughout the year. All good things that create a community.

Downtown Frederick to me is just like a neighboorhood in a big city rather than a city in and of itself. If you live here, you know...you got your tourist drag (Market/Patrick/Church area), your business drag (Court/Patrick area), your upscale residential (north end til 4th/5th) and your "havent been gentrified yet" residential (south end). Living here, amenities for residents aren't great...no grocery shopping or other basic essentials are within walking distance so even if you live in the walkable area like I do you still have to own a car to get anything. Public transit is basically nonexistent. On top of that parking can be (and often is) a nightmare. Otherwise, there's definitely some aesthetic pleasures about Frederick like the beautiful architecture, the mostly friendly people, the gorgeous greenspace (lots of trees, Carroll Creek, Baker Park), and some decent restaurants (Nola, Orchard, Sumittra, Wags). Great place to visit, not the best to live but definitely beats out any other big town/small city in the area like Leesburg VA, Hagerstown, Gaithersburg, or Charles Town WV. Wish city officials would do a little more to accommodate residents rather than pander to tourists but hey, they gotta make money I get it.

On a recent visit with family we took a walk downtown along the canal. Seemed like a nice area. several shops and eateries on surrounding streets. Many historic sights to see in the area. We visited the Civil War Medicine Museum, quite interesting and informative.

It is a beautiful and simple place with arts surrounded. Also, there are a few restaurants. There are some events at this place every year.

Downtown is quaint with tons of cute shops. Parking is tricky. Carroll Creek Linear Park is a very nice stroll along a manmade canal. Cool murals and great atmosphere.

Fun little town with many cute shops and tasty restaurants. The canal going through the downtown area really added to the beauty!

This is a quality Downtown with plenty of historic buildings, a wide variety of good shops and restaurants, and plenty of activities. It is a clean and safe environment for the whole family. Recently we happened to be there during the Fire and Ice Festibal and really enjoyed the extra activities and the dozens of ice sculptures in front of local busineses. We will return to the event next year.

We've driven past Frederick hundreds of times between Washington DC and Harrisburg PA, but only recently spent a weekend in downtown Frederick. Were we surprised! There are so many cute local stores (no chains), we spent a whole afternoon wandering around and buying more than expected. There are some amazing restaurants and beautiful B&Bs. We stayed at 10 Clark, a fabulous B&B within walking distance of the downtown shopping and restaurants, and ate at Volt (make a reservation a month in advance). We definitely will go back.

It was a nice fall day for a walk by the river. We even stopped at the playground (us being adults and we were not with any kids) and swung on the swings. It was a lot of fun doing something different.

The downtown area of Frederick is filled with interesting shops, cafes, coffee shops, art galleries, and history. We loved the Civil War Medical Museum. Parking in decks is easy and not very expensive. A very nice place to spend a full day.

A great city to walk around, visit the shops and enjoy street festivals. Lots of great restaurant choices too.

We have enjoyed this area many times when visiting Frederick. It is pleasant and safe and a nice "waterfront" addsbeauty to the downtown. It seems there is always some event going on. Parking garages are convenient and inexpensive. We wish there were more public restrooms. We use the one at Delaplane arts center, the MARC station and the one at Frederick Visitors Center. On the west end toilets are sparse. The one near the bandshell must have bankers hours; it always seems to be closed.

An afternoon in historic downtown Frederick in good weather can be a very pleasant as well as informative and educational experience -- ideal for weekends. The city has a lot going for it on many levels and has changed tremendously over the years for those who remember it from the 1960s. Great shops of all kinds, nice restaurants, book stores plus museums.

Perfect place to take a stroll and get a bite to eat! It’s decorated for each season and very accessible during events.

This is an adorable downtown with lots of little shops and restaurants. We had great weather and it was a lovely way to spend the afternoon. We parked in a parking garage on a Saturday and it was $4.00 for about 4 hours (I don't even know what the rate was, so don't count on this price).

The downtown Frederick area always has something going on. There are many shops and restaurants, all within walking distance. The entire area is pet friendly so it is not unusual to see water bowls set out in front of the shops. Uber is readily available and great to use, especially when there is an event going on.

I felt like I was visiting Soho in NYC. Unique shop after unique shop. Great art, food, drinks, shows, and people.

We we’re retuning from a trip to Baltimore harbor and stop for a walk and lunch. Its a beautiful town and you walk by there canal which is real pretty with lots of flowers and shops and restaurants.

Great shops good food Fall colors came very late this year. November was beautfiful. We drove out to Mount Olivet cemetery and I visited the graves of Francis Scott Key and Barbara Fritsche.

I love downtown Frederick. The creek walk is a gem. Beautiful and unique bridges, fountains (though none were working n March), art work. People were friendly and the weather happened to be perfect on our visit. Most of the restaurants along the creek were not open but we happily sat on a bench and people watched. We left this area to walk the rest of the downtown area. We visited the National Museum of Civil War Medicine, ate lunch at Wags, stopped in a few shops and just marveled at the architecture. If you like to leave your car and just walk from your motel the Super 8 is a perfect place to stay. The visitor center is on your way in town.

I met some friends for lunch in Frederick. While eating, we observed all the nice stores to peruse. It was an enjoyable day seeing all the historic buildings. I recommend visiting to spend time in a classic old town.

Each time I go to downtown Frederick I find new little spots to enjoy. The shop owners are friendly and give good information about the area and restaurants. Going during the week the town is not busy so the shops are not crowded. Fun place to browse.

This is my second visit to the Historic downtown area and we love it. So many shops, restaurants and coming from the Bay Area I was struck by how clean it was. There is plenty of parking either on the streets or in the garages. We look forward to our next visit and what new shops we will find.

Wonderful time strolling the beautiful riverwalk, even got to see a couple getting married at the amphitheater.
Cool restaurants and shops on Market and Patrick streets.

Great place to visit, great place to live.
Try Carol Creek for a great way to spend the day. Sample one of the many great restaurants.

I really enjoy downtown Frederick! So many wonderful shops and restaurants! A great place to shop and just enjoy the vibrant atmosphere.

Frederick has a great downtown area. The area along Carrol Creek is awesome with many restaurants, quaint shops, antiques and history.

There are many kinds of shops, restaurants, bars, and museums in Downtown Frederick. We have been several times and have only scratched the surface.

We walked a bit and found a place to eat. Nice old buildings and we enjoyed it. Drove around to explore it more. Worth the time.

Fun to look around and plan on having a meal. Great restaurants! There is also plenty of history here. Stop by the visitor center first for a first-rate film, wonderful self tour maps and coupons!

Was just recently downtown with friends and my children for Fire and Ice. Although it was cold it was still a good time! I love being downtown. Very family and dog friendly! We love eating downtown because we can always bring our dog with us. Can’t wait until it warms up and we can get there more often.

Great City. Enjoyed walking up and down the river walk. Learning about the history of our country was great.

Growing up in Northern VA in the 1970s and 80s, we never gave much thought to Frederick. Oh, how times have changed!! Frederick has one of the coolest downtowns of any small-to-medium sized towns in the country. Plenty of shopping, restaurants, music, art spaces, and history. Many historic buildings that have been restored with care. My son and I spent four hours there and will definitely be back. Be sure not to miss the National Museum of Civil War Medicine and the Record Exchange (if you are into music), both highlights of our visit.

There is a shop, restaurant/bar, coffee shop, book store, music/entertainment for just about every taste. In the midst of this is a large and inviting public library. Streets are clean and there are several areas to find a bench to just sit a minute.

Went to a show at the Weinberg Center which was a comedy show that was awesome. Before the show we walked Market St. and di some shopping and stopped into Wags, a local bar and restaurant that makes great burgers, soup, fries, etc. Downtown Frederick has adequate parking and a lot of good restaurants and shops that you can walk to. Carroll Creek is also worth visiting. It's all well worth a visit.

Relaxing evening walking around and stopping for dinner. Pretty waterfront area. Delicious varied restaurant choices. Cool people.

We stayed two days in Frederick on our way from Connecticut to South Carolina. The historic downtown is charming, boasting the Carroll Creek Linear Park as well as wonderful examples of period architecture, upscale and down-home eateries, and shops. We stayed at 10 Clarke, a B&B within walking distance of the downtown area, which gave us the opportunity to enjoy long strolls around the city. We never needed to use our car until it was time to leave - which was too soon! We loved 10 Clarke, enjoyed dinners at JoJo's Restaurant and Tap House and The Wine Kitchen, and toured the National Museum of Civil War Medicine.

It is very nice to look the Carroll Creek. Nice resturant. Beautiful view on creek with decorcating boats
There are ice cream salon, Chicago hot dogs, New mexican resturant and also German foods.
Near the library building.
Nice artworks under the bridge.

Shab Row is a must see. Many local shops and artisans. Great food and lovely gifts. If you like antiques and repurposed items, you have got to check out the warehouse called Great Stuff by Paul. Wholesale prices and plenty of very cool items from around the world. I'm going to come back with a UHaul!

We were in town for the first time this weekend, and the downtown was a delight. Interesting stores, wonderful restaurants, and a historical but vibrant ambiance. Can’t wait to come back!

Spent a four day week end in Frederick on a whim, talk about being very surprised! Sections of downtown are blocked off to make room for outside dining. This place is fantastic.

Frederick has come so far since I was younger. We used to make fun of it for being out in the boonies, but now its a beautiful, historic town with tons of things to do and great bars and restaraunts

When I was growing up near Baltimore, Frederick was a place you'd drive on Sunday to buy a ham. Moved to Hawaii for 30 years, and returned to Maryland 3 years ago, to Frederick. What an amazing change since the flood of 1978! Revitalized downtown, scores of excellent and varied restaurants (including Volt, an amazing, upscale experience), small batch distilleries, several breweries, an art school, active live theaters and performance spaces, free summer concerts, parks, and a restored and charming heart of the 18th Century town. ...and all within walking distance of our house. Amazing, indeed. Plan a trip for a day or weekend and I think you'll be returning again and again. AND, I'm not in any way affiliated with a group that is promoting Frederick. I'm just another resident who will be enjoying this town for years to come. Take a look on-line -- there are plenty of video clips.

Antiques, funky clothes, vintage albums. Cafes, French and Italian Restaurants. Ice cream and chocolate. It's all here. Something for everyone. Shops on Patrick and Market Streets. You can spend a day or 2 here!

Downtown Frederick is the town every town wants to mimic. If you havent been go!! Parking garaages available for less than $5

restaurants. pubs. art galleries, antique joints. how can you lose. start with an antique crawl and t when have a great dinner

This city is very underrated. The canal running through downtown, with multiple bridges, fountains and great landscaping could make any city jealous. Highly recommend visiting at least once.

Lovely little town and quite historical. Nice museums and cute little shops. Also nice restaurants and a good place to walk and window shop!

We stopped at the visitor’s center and grabbed a walking tour map. It was easy to follow and gave us a great view. Unfortunately the weather didn’t cooperate so we didn’t stick around long but would love to come back another (warmer!) day!

The Frederick downtown area is beautiful for walking along Carroll Creek. Many festivals go on throughout the year so check into weekends when you will find many people in the streets. Unique boutiques and fabulous restaurants also make this worth the drive to visit for the day. Frederick is pet friendly and people friendly.

Found easy on-street parking and loved walking around this sweet town. Great candy store, brew pub and safe, clean environment.

I visited this place with my mom and she was just amaze of all the flowers and people with their dogs also she commented on how clean everything was.

A walk through the historic district is interesting and delightful. The number of quaint shops, boutiques and restaurants can make for a pleasant afternoon.

Fredrick is a delightful place to visit full of character, history, shops and restaurants to mention just a few of it's charms. The Carroll Creek is another reason to visit and enjoy. The creek has beautiful water lilies, ducks and sculptures. Often called 'Little Philadelphia', the architecture is colonial and civil war with beautiful brick buildings and newer buildings as well. An active arts community and foodie destination, a city full of history, a minor league baseball stadium, a community airport, festivals...you need to visit!

Loved the Promonade on Carroll Creek. Beautiful walk any time of day, with a number of restaurants and places to relax. It was a pleasant surprise. Go in the evening for dinner, it is lovely.

Parked in ramp. Walked all of what we could see. Very nice and hip kinda. Stopped and ate at Jojo's. No crazy people, families out and about.

Beware!!!! Frederick downtown area is looking to give senior citizens a ticket. Red light cameras at every corner leading to National Museum of Civil War Medicine . During weekdays some parking on the street turns in no parking loading zone even though parking spaces are marked with white lines and you have used app to pay for parking. In the end, it cost me over $100 to see museum and pay parking fine. Just not worth it.

So much to see,but we did not have lots of time. The canal was my highlight and the art building. The people in this town was so nice and so helpful. The police department should be pride of their men and woman they are friendly and very helpful. Was hard to believe all the pictures we took and still it was not enough.Guess we will have to come back in the late summer or early fall.
Con: for us we could not find trail maps or hiking maps or even bicycle trails.

We love walking through the town, stopping for a bite to eat and maybe seeing a show at the Weinberg Center. Very clean little town and most of the shops are very welcoming.

A delightful stroll along the Carroll Creek before dinner. Lots of opportunities for photographs, including a black heron lurking in a small clump of tall grass in the stream.

My sister who lives in Frederick took me to visit the historic area in downtown Frederick, I loved this area and the restoration of the beautiful buildings. The shops and eateries were truly interesting making this area a wonderful place to spend an afternoon or evening.

Loved walking around the old part of town, lovely shops and the river bank was great.
Wish the weather was better, but can't help that
Amazing Location
Frederick has done an amazing job of maintaining its historic area. There are a lot of boutique shops selling one of a kind items and a boatload of fantastic restaurants in the area. They have also done a fantastic job of turning the creek area into a beautiful walkway with restaurants along side. At Christmas they decorate small boats they put in the creek. Love this area!
