Depending on how close you want to see this iconic Hollywood sign will depend on where you view it from. Our son lives on Beachwood Drive which is where you can see the sign as you drive up the street. Several people take selfie photos on this street with the sign behind them. Our son took as for a walk to Lake Hollywood and you can get a good view from here and the dog park that is up this way as well. I don’t know of the walk up to it that other people are talking about. Be aware that this is a suburban area and as you wind up the streets can get very very narrow.

It is just a sign made of large letters but it is an icon which defines what is happening. Just needs to be seen!

I traveled to a Hollywood and did not have a lot of time. The one thing I wanted to see was the Hollywood sign. So I will share that I found was to view the sign from Hollywood and Highland. It was cool to see the sign and it is a great view.

When in Hollywood getting a good snap of the sign is a must, We managed to pull up for some great snaps on way back from the observatory. Park at own risk on the housing estate as signs for towing in place.
Sign was smaller than I always imagined it to be but was good to see

I think the sign is not worth the hype. You can see it from a distance or even do a trail towards it. Its just an iconic symbol so I felt taking the tour to see it isnt worth the money

Viewed the Hollywood Sign from Griffith Observatory which is surpose to be the closest you can get "Legally" it was good to finally see something I'd only ever seen on TV or in Movies! Simply a Must See!

The sign was nice. It was crazy to see billionaires living such high class lives with homeless people right at the end of the driveway. What makes it better is the rich are so uptight and greedy that they wont even fix the roads they live on, they merely have drivers or don't drive according to the law so it doesn't seem to reflect on them. If the pollution/fog don't getcha, one of the homeless or walking crazies will! I was so disappointed. I find it embarrassing and I don't even live there.

To get a decent picture with the Hollywood sign, I recommend driving to Lake Hollywood Park. Parking is tricky but drive around, someone is always leaving. Once parked, head to the park, take pics and head up the hill as well. There are additional places to get great pictures. I found one with a tree to take a pic underneath so we wouldn't squint because it's sunny everywhere.

You can see it from allover LA but you can't walk up to it. There are hikes that get you close and behind the sign but you can only get to about 200 ft from it.

I used the 3000 Canyon Lake Drive, Hollywood address in my GPS. It works very well. I will caution that I missed one turn and ended up coming in the back roads up through the residential hills. The roads were extremely tight and only one car can fit down these roads without another yielding. I was okay driving through it, but it certainly can be uncomfortable for some.
Doing research prior it cautioned that parking was extremely tight in the area and not to park in any areas undesignated or in front of driveways. This is true, there is a parking authority on site. I did figure out one little secret that worked out very well for me if you do not mind about a 2 minute walk (The walk is up a steep hill). I drove past the Lake Hollywood Park (I was coming from the top of the hill off of Mulholland Highway) and past Tahoe Drive. This takes you into a residential neighborhood. I found a very respectful place to park that was away from any driveways or the view in front of anyone's home where it was legal to park. This worked out perfect rather than trying to wait for a spot on the hill.
Both Lake Hollywood Park and the Hollywood Sign Viewpoint at the top of the hill are amazing spots to view the sign from. There is no fee to get in. There were also vendors on the roadway on the day I was here with beverages and merchandise.
I really enjoyed seeing the sign and I recommend this as a stop if you are in the area.

Tried to get as close as we could. Enter Lake Hollywood Park in your GPS. This took us all the way up the hills, through residential area to a very small parking area. There you can hike pretty close. The letters are 45 feet tall and 30 feet wide. Pretty impresive.

We visited the Hollywood sign on our vacation to LA and it was a great experience.
We cheated and hired an Uber to take us up to the highest point driveable near to the sign and made our own way from there. Even though we got the Uber (pretty much to the top), there was still a long hike to complete before we even got close to the sign (which can be quite challenging during the hotter months and if your fitness levels aren't overly high as it's all up hill).
There are plenty of photo opportunities beforehand (that don't require you to do the hike) that you can take advantage of.
When you reach the sign you realise it's not how it is in the films, you can't get anywhere near it and is located on a steep hill. You sometime see people in films sitting on or near the sign but this is simply not possible.
It was a great experience but there is no benefit to walking all the way up to the sign, you may as well take the photos from the photo ops below and enjoy the walk down.
REMINDER: Take water with you as there is nowhere to buy it when you reach the top!

Don't waste time trying to get too close to this sign. Whenever you are able to get a decent picture driving by, you are as close as you are going to get without an enromous headache. We went to the recommended point for photos, and it was a giant driving, parking, walking headache and the pictures of the sign at the observatory were no better than the ones we could've taken from the road.

I visited Hollywood park to view hollywood sign . Its good place to view this sign and you can spend sometime there. there is also childrens area so child can play there. Parking can be challenging as many people visit the park so plan accordingly.

You don’t need to hike up to it if you don’t want to. Plenty of places to park outside of Lake Hollywood Park on the road (if you get there early).
It’s pretty obvious where to stand because the grass has gone in that patch, however go for a little stroll around the park as there are some other vantage points which I found slightly better.
Most people go into the park and head to the left but if you go straight on, there’s also a good place to stand as well.
We went to Griffith Observatory afterwards and went on quite the winding route which was awesome but not if you’re not an experienced driver as it can be a little dicey.

We didn’t fancy a hike so went to see the sign at The Griffith Observatory. You can park for free but it’s a trek up to the top se we drove and paid $10 which was extortionate but had to be done. The view of the Hollywood sign is brilliant and we also got an amazing view of Los Angeles. If you want a great view without the hike then definitely drive and park up here.

Great view from Griffith observatory- also overlooks the entire L.A. area.
Many people go there, and take pictures from the overlook. Parking will cost you, and we should have paid, but we went there on January 2nd, at about 8am.
We drove up, and only planned to stay 15-20 minutes for pictures.
Nobody was collecting for parking, so we got our pictures and left.
Definitely suggest to anyone visiting the area for a few days to go here.

Hollywood sign can be seen from Hollywood & Highland shopping mall from one of the many levels, or closer at Griffin Observatory or a wander through the park, but if you visit LA you must seen the sign.

I like the movies, and I had to take that iconic Hollywood Sign photograph. Due to its size, one can obtain a decent photograph from a number of spots. An interesting sign which makes for a must have photograph.

we just went to Griffity observatory and we saw the Hollywood sign from there. For me is more than enough for the best holidays photo.

The hike up was pretty good, though hot. It is really good for photos and views of LA but nothing of interest along the way. The hike takes around 2 hours and 8 kilometers.

Can't go to Hollywood without seeing this iconic sign. It's really not much to it because you can't get very close but it was food seeing it. I have been to L.A sing the late 90's so it was good to see it again.

Hiking to the Hollywood sign was a great experience to me and my friends. All of us hiked to the sign for the 1st time. Remember to wear sunscreen on a sunny day and wear a hat; otherwise, we might have gotten sunburn. Bringing and drinking a lot of water is important too. We enjoyed our hike but there were plenty of horse 💩 and made the hike stinky!!!!

I used to live near the sign and could see it from my house. If you are visiting Hollywood it can't be missed

Visited this place on the 17th of May 2023. The Hollywood Sign is an American landmark and cultural icon overlooking Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. Originally the Hollywoodland Sign, it is situated on Mount Lee, in the Beachwood Canyon area of the Santa Monica Mountains. Since its installation on a hill overlooking Los Angeles in 1923, the Hollywood sign has served as a billboard for a real estate development, a backdrop for countless films and television shows, and a decaying reminder of silver screen excess. We visited it in the evening before dusk and found a few people trying to take photos. There is a professional photographer too who helps you take if you want to be clicked. A few vendors selling their eatables and those couples who have come for hiking. A visit here was really worth it !

Hollywood lake park is the place to see the sign from. Get there early (8am) and there is nobody there. Some great views and the closest you can get to the sign. An iconic picture in LA

I didn't find anything special on thi tourist attraction, it will take several minutes to find the right place to get a picture of this famous spot in LA.
Other than that, is just the place to witness you visit LA.

We were on AMG tours, so could only view it from the mall. You can go between the mall and take a nice picture.

I grew up in LA, one place to know how to find your bearing is the Hollywood sign. Read about it history, a land development build it to attract buyers. Point of reference to some locals, it points somewhat North. H is for West and the Y for East.South is behind you. Off Franklin and Gower, heads for the sign. Up on the mountain , horse stables used to exsist, you could down to Franklin canyon, many movies shot took place in the cave. Look up you see the Hollywood castle, in many movies and rented out for parties, Moat, draw bridge, dance hall, step down fireplace, ect .Sets moods for Midevil effect.Off Hollyridge where many Celeb reside. You can also find them at thw market. If you know who to look for ,Read up on Hollywood Hills lot of interesting history. See if you can spot Madona s home west of the sign.

One of my fave films is Friends with Benefits and I always said 1 day I would go to the Hollywood sign & at last I did.
I got a taxi as far up as was allowed although he tried to fob me off with the view at Griffith Park 1st but I wanted closer lol
Once I got out taxi there was construction work further up so wasn’t allowed unless a resident I did say I was but he didn’t believe me 😊
So I got as close to the best shot possible for me and then walked down and just admired the views. It really did it for me & made my LA experience even better well worth the trek 👍

We did the 3 mile trail starting at 3200 Canyon Dr where there's free parking. It's a quick elevation so you can get out of breath at the start. It levels out about halfway then elevates again the last mile. The back of sign surrounded by a chain link fence is interesting. On the way down we took the detour which yields a good view of the front of the sign. That adds about 1/2 mile. The reason for 4 instead of 5 stars was because of horse manure on manyh parts of the trail.

Hollywood's best days may be over, but the iconic sign is still a symbol of the American dream. We only saw it from a distance. However, that was enough for us. You can't get very close anyway, because it's not publicly accessible.

One of the most famous images in the world had a rather prosaic origin. Erected in 1923 as an advertisement for a residential build, it then spelt out Hollywoodland in huge capital letters.
It became such a popular symbol that the original intention to take it down it was shelved and in the late 1940s the final four letters were removed.
We saw it from many parts of the city but probably best vistas were from Griffith Park and Observatory.

The best view is from the Griffith Observatory campus, but you can see it well from the Los Angeles county Museum of Art top floor.

The only nice thing to see in Hollywood. That way you can look up to the sky instead of at all of the litter and homeless on the ground.
It's pretty iconic and majestic and you can get perfect views from Hollywood Highland, North Beachwood Drive and Lake Hollywood Park. I definitely suggest Lake Hollywood Park if you want a perfect shot up close where you can fit all of the letters in without them looking so far away in the distance. You'll get a bit of a view on Sunset Blvd but it may be obstructed by buildings

We did the hike it’s an amazing view and not too hard. Its sad you can’t get closer
But you can still get a good pic!

The Hollywood signs hike it’s wonderful trail.
We parked all the way at the bottom parking lot.
Walked all the way up to Griffith Observatory went around it and walked all the way up by the Hollywood sign.
The entire hike was about 11 miles and it took up about 4 hours. We had a dog with us and had to carry most of the time. Before you start this hike take with you plenty sun screen, snack and drinks.
The view was amazing. Planing fo do it again when I get back in LA

The Hollywood Sign is best seen and photographed from the Griffith Observatory which is very close by. There is no blockage and the sign is bright white against the setting sun.

The Hollywood Sign is one of the most iconic landmarks in LA, so everyone has to take pictures with the sign at the very least. However, I recommend hiking to the top - there are great places to stop along the way for close up pictures with the sign, and then at the top, you can take pictures of the back.
Tip: you will cross through residential streets to get there, but don't be alarmed, that is the trail! Just don't ignore any private property signs.

According to locals, when LA was first under development the estate agents were trying to sell new properties near a new area called Hollywood. They installed this iconic sign to show the name of the area. Who would then believe that a couple of decades later it would become the No.1 attraction in Hollywood! There are many tours especially designed for taking a good close picture of Hollywood Sign. I would recommend either to take one of those tours or rent a car to get close to the actual sign. Don’t rely on Griffith Observatory as it is too far! Of course, a picture with the Hollywood Sign is a must while in LA!

We used the Big Bus company for our hop on hop off tour, which took in seeing the sign from several streets giving us good views of it!

We saw the Hollywood Sign several times while we drove up and down Mulholland Drive. We did stop at the Jerome C. Daniel Overlook above the Hollywood Bowl. At the overlook there is a staircase (it's not terribly long or difficult) to get a better view of LA and you can see the sign from up there. it's not the best view, I'm sure there are better ones, but it worked for us. Minus an actual hike, there doesn't seem to be a great way to see the sign close up.

It makes feel something on the inside, probably after so many movies.
A nice hike walking hour and there you are.
great, despite some dogs around.

If you are visiting Los Angeles and stopping at all the touristy sites this one is not to be missed. Set your GPS to Lake Hollywood Park and follow the route up the hills. We got there around 2:00pm on a Friday afternoon. There was still plenty of free parking and people were everywhere taking the usual photos. Everyone has a different strategy, selfie-stick, timer on camera, asking a fellow tourist, shooting from the ground, jumping in the air, or posed straight on. If you have extra energy you can even hike up the street to get a closer, albeit more desert like shot. What does it all really mean? Who knows, but it is the sign you see on TV and it is the symbol of the American film industry. Hurray!

We were able to get some nice pictures without having to do much walking or pay for a tour. We located a parking area that gave you a great view of the sign.

The walk itself was very nice. Beautiful weather and luckily, we had a good group of strangers. I went with my partner and the 4 others there, were soooo cool! During our hike, Anthony made the experience better. His stories were interesting, informative and hilarious! I won't spoil anything, but, Griffith J. Griffith....best story ever!! He had snacks and water for us. Just like a parent on a field trip lol

Sign was nice and the nearby park was clean and well kept. Not much more to say in this review at this time

Arriving by car at the top of a closed road that ends on the mountain opens the view of the writing on the left and the city on the right. It is worth getting there for some amazing photos in the company of the writing on your doorstep.

There are several locations you can see the sign from. We did a hike to get close to it. It was a workout. Something fun to do.

I have been here a few times, the hike to go there is really nice especially in winter or spring time. Try to avoid it in summer cause it might be super hot. It is a great place to take photos and the view from there is really beautiful.

The sign was worth seeing for me just to say I saw it . It is what it is. The important things to know: there is some parking up toward the observatory — about $10. We drove in from San Diego on our way to San Simeon… the drive through Hollywood to the sign was absolutely lovely as was the drive back down and towards our next stop.

The Hollywood sign is a must. Drive up the mountain to the top for best pictures. Beware of rattle snakes when you go.
There are no toilets up there.
It’s about an hour all in trip.

We went to the Lake Hollywood dog park for a view of the sign as recommended by others on TripAdvisor
Great spot. We were up early making the most of still being on UK time so it was quiet and easy to park 9am
Spent a while just sat drinking it in. Took loads of photos. Be careful driving up though as you pass some beautiful homes that are probably fed up with tourists driving manically round their quiet streets! Even teenager was impressed 🤣

Iconic spot. Simply have to get a spot to take a good picture. Visible from great distances. Must see when in the area.

It’s just letters but we’re in Hollywood so we have to get close! Indeed, this symbol is present when walking and it is clear that the detour and the “visit” of the place is worth the trip (as is the climb to the observatory!). Whether on foot or by car, we will take pictures of these letters from all angles.

We went to Lake Hollywood Park good for a picnic a good view you will find the park at 3160 Canyon Lake drive if you have time you can walk up a trail to the sign, Car parking was road side only.

Parked at one of the trailheads and took a short hike, maybe 30-45min around the back of the sign. Was a nice day out, the view of the valley was beautiful, and exciting seeing the sign from behind

Fantastic hike to Hollywood sign; thanks to our tour guide-Noelle. I highly recommend her. Worth the time spent walking to the sign.

If you want to take a nice picture of the Hollywood sign in the background of a selfie or group picture, while in Hollywood, go to the Hollywood and Highland Shopping Center at 6801 Hollywood Blvd. Go to the second level and walk to the back. You will have a nice view of the sign in the distance and there is a bench to sit for pictures.

Best view of the Hollywood sign is from Hollywood Lake Park. $24 return Uber fare and the view is unbelievable. The park is very nice too if you wanted to take a picnic

Off course when you are in hollywood you need to see this sign but what is it. The whole area are a tourist junk with high prices

Its a sign, on a hill. We found that most people recommend the view from the Griffith Observatory, it is pretty good. You just have to get a photo with this.

Definitely include it in your visit we took the hike that reached to its front only which was enough to take amazing pics

Pick what you want to do. Close and personal, take the uphill hike. Numerous places to view, we were at the Observatory.

My husband and I hiked up the path from the Griffith Observatory location. Pretty easy hike considering we're used to challenging and lengthy hikes through the woods. The views are breathtaking. The top of the trail has a great view of the Hollywood sign as well as nice sunset views as you're going down. Can stay up there for a bit and relax.
Pretty cool for a touristy location.

The Hollywood sign is famous, and after multiple trips to Southern California we finally managed to hike to it. Look online for hiking routes - the closest one is currently closed due to disputes with neighborhood home owners. The route we took (via the Brush Canyon Trail) was about 6.5 miles total out and back. It took us about 3 hours.
We first went up the entire way to the top of Mount Lee, with views of the back of the sign. (There are signposts directing you at trail intersections). Then we headed down but took the .4 mile side spur to the water tower area, for views and photos of the front of the sign. I was glad that we did both; the different perspectives were interesting, and you really get a sense of how large the letters are when you're right above them.

To get there put in your GPS- 3200 Canyon Lake Dr. once there make a right up the hill. Or 6300 Tahoe Dr…. All in all it was a kool experience.

Having visited this place, I experienced a storm of emotion , this is a truly fascinating place , something that is really worth visiting and visiting every person, it is not just an inscription or some sign, it is a sign with its own history. The sign was first erected in 1923 — during the beginning of the Golden Era of Hollywood, when movies were just beginning to bring in fabulous revenues. The sign is almost the same age as Hollywood itself. Then it was planned that it will last only 18 months. But there are also and cons for example , such as a sign not to get too close because he was watching NCIS Los Angeles and so if she sees that people come too it can get you arrested , but if you are an American citizen and deport you from the country. In General, I think this place is really fascinating and amazing in all of Los Angeles .

The sign is fun, but don’t let it be the center of your trip. Enjoy L.A. take it all in and find your adventure. The best photos of people and the Hollywood Sign are typically on murals, etc... throughout Hollywood.

This iconic sign is a must see when visiting the L.A. area. It is visible from all over, and can be hiked to and seen more closely from Griffith Park

.. very nice tour, great views from up there. But it is not obvious to find the best way up. Probably the best is to park at the Observatorium, but then ask for the right way, it is easy to get lost.
Avoid the hot time of the day .... enjoy and take nice Pictures!

This iconic sign was on my list of things I wanted to see when we were in LA. We were with local friends, who drove us to a spot where we could park along the road and walk a short distance to get a good view of the sign. Great photo op!

Saw from the highway this trip. No matter how many times I visit California I must snap a couple of pics of the infamous Hollywood sign.

Only a couple ways to see this up close all of them are a pain in the rear end. A private streets were people really don't like you driving or parking in front of their homes. I can't say that I blame them. Take a look at as you drive on one of the surface streets and leave it at that. Ain't much else to see

After watching several videos on how to get close to the Holywood Sign, I found a path and got really close.
When you are going, you will see that several streets cannot pass or park. I recommend watching some YouTube videos to understand a little better. In this place you can see the Hollywood sign up close and even take the trail to go after it, which I didn't do because it is quite long.
If you want to do the trail, go at a time when the sun is not too strong and take water, it is quite extensive.
Research the route well before going as there is a lot of conflicting information on the internet.

See it up close. Nice and easy hike to a great viewing location. A must see, if you are from the area or just visiting

The Hollywood Sign is a must-see, offering great hikes and incredible photo opportunities with panoramic city views.

If you’re in Los Angeles I think this is a must see, at least once in a life time. If you're by car I think that the best way is to go on Canyon Lake Drive and take pictures from Lake Hollywood Park.

Because of Harry Styles our teen daughter wanted to visit Beachwood Cafe, 2695 N Beachwood Dr, Los Angeles and as you drive north towards the cafe you have an excellent view of the Hollywood Sign. It is the closest we've ever seen the sign in the three times we visited Los Angeles.

Great to visit
So busy we were glad we were on a tour as parking is a real issue
Shame you can’t drive up closer
You can walk but it’s a fair distance up hill
Great views of LA

Saw the sign while driving into the city from Antelope Valley and felt like I had arrived. Nice to see a landmark which is actually as big and bold as it is made out to be.

If you're not interested in a guided hike/tour, google "Innsdale Trail" for directions on how to get to the back of the Hollywood sign. There isn't public transportation that will get you to the beginning of the trail so you will need to Uber/Taxi/walk etc.
*Note that you cannot get up close to the sign from the front. You'll figure out which front on shots are the best and closest on your way back down :)
This hike is for people of medium level fitness and not ideal for small children under 8.
Enjoy!

This is a must do in LA. I would go on a weekday to avoid crowds. Very hard to park. Got great pictures and kids also loved it!

We took a taxi a long way from Long Beach port to visit this, very far but okay😂 I went in the morning, so only a few people over there. Good!

We went on a walk with an Air b&b group. Excellent walk - thoroughly enjoyed it. Definitely worth the hike!

A very touristy thing to do. We were at Lake Hollywood park and took pictures of the sign from there. Constructed in 1923 and rebuilt in 1978

Hey, you gotta do it, right? From the east coast on a tour so.... it was fun. Pretended to be holding it on my hand in photos.

We traveled up down and all around. Once we got to where we needed to be it was fun to see there was a lot of traffic the roads and driving in Hollywood is horrible

Very nice view from a park. There are possible hikes to get close to the letters. You can take beautiful pictures.

The famous Hollywood sign isn’t too far from the Griffith Observatory. It overlooks the city of LA and can be seen from multiple vantage points. It’s iconic and a must see if you come to LA

We had a private tour with an experienced guide. He showed us Los Angeles and of course the famous landmark couldn't be missed. Since he knew his way around so well, we were in a place where we were completely alone with a fantastic view. So we had time to admire, take photos and all without any crowds. That was just great. When we drove past the "normal place" there were lots and lots of people. So we were able to admire the Hollywood Sign, which is smaller than we thought, in peace and quiet and it is definitely worth seeing.

I challenged myself to hike Runyon Canyon Park and ended up getting a closer view of the HOLLYWOOD sign.

If you like hiking, and especially like portions of steep inclines, this visit will fill your cup! We started by Mulholland. When going up, up, up, our first stop was the hill with the Memory Tree and American flag. After a rest, we journeyed over to the spot behind the Hollywood sign. We gained a total of over 1000 feet of elevation and the hike took us just over an hour (not including rests). I am so glad to have visited this iconic sign! I'm not sure that I'd do it again, but I'm so glad I did get a chance to see it up close and personal!

One of the most world wide famous signs and icons of all time!
The hike to the top where the sign is challenging. You should be in decent shape and prepared to do a real legit difficult hike. If you guy in the summer you need to have sunblock, water, stay hydrated and all.
If you make it to the top the view is incredible and you feel all of the history of Hollywood and LA looking down at the city. Definitely get a selfie up top it is worth it!
Most people only stop 1/2 way or even less and give up once they realize how difficult it is.

We couldn't recommend this tour enough! Our tour guide (Elko) has been fantastic, he took the time to chat to everyone in the group, and took a lot of awesome pictures for us.
The walk itself was not too tiring , he took us to the very top of the hills (at the back of the Hollywood Sign) and the views from there were awesome!Thank you again for this experience 😀

From afar the sign is about what you expect however the hike up to the sign is a bit of disappointment if honest. Still had a fun time.

When i got into hollywood for a one-day tour, the first that i saw was this awesome sign-HOLLYWOOD...i was extremely happy to see this sign because i only saw this in films..hope tourists like me would love to visit this interesting place in the planet.

2023 marked the 100th anniversary of the famous HOLLYWOOD sign, so we couldn’t not visit on such a special occasion while we were in town.
An early morning Uber from our hotel cost only $9 and we tucked in to our breakfast burritos at Lake Hollywood Park with the sign looking down on us from up high.
We knew to arrive early to give us a head start on the summer heat. In fact, we’d diligently researched the hike route to Mount Lee online before arriving to ensure we didn’t encroach on the residents’ private property and we knew to lower our voices when in the vicinity of the plush houses on the hill.
We encountered only one resident, an older gent, who was out for a walk up to the sign. We had a quick chat and he told us he hiked 10 miles routes several times a week. When asked if he enjoyed living in Hollywood he advised that he’d been here 25 years and the cheapest houses were $1.5 million. We told him we could dream and he encouraged us to keep going to the top.
Shortly later, we reached the Mount Lee peak at 1,708 feet at 9.34 a.m., just over 90 mins since we left our starting point.
We leisurely took in the incredible views of Downtown LA and Burbank and we were up there for nearly an hour. Thankfully there was a lovely breeze to cool us down, as the hike up made us hot and sweaty (in fact we had sizzled in the sun). The Hollywood Reservoir looked impressive, but the highlight of course was seeing the rear of the Hollywood sign!
The journey down was a lot easier, as expected; we were buoyed by the brilliant time we’d had and strutted down with a spring in our steps. We encountered more people on the way down than on the way up, and we smiled at them all knowing they were in for a treat at the top of Mt. Lee!

The hike to the Hollywood sign is a pleasant break from the bustle of Los Angeles. The scenery is pretty and the view at the top as long as it is clear is quite nice. We did the brush canyon trail that has a dirt road with intermittent paving. It was about 5 miles round trip but not too strenuous with good footing. We ended up behind the sign which means you are higher. Pleasant way to spend the day.

If you go to the viewing area, be sure to go early in the morning when traffic will be reasonable. We tried to find parking mid afternoon and gave up as it was an absolute zoo with everybody jockeying for a spot. We gave up and took photos from the Griffith Observatory.
You've been warned.

For such an iconic sight, it isn't easy to see. A lot of the tours on the Boulevard promise Hollywood Sign views, but this is a very distant view from Mulholland Drive on the other side of the freeway. If you want to take a tour you need to do one specifically going to the sign at Lake Hollywood Park or else slightly further up the hill.
Driving, there are parking spots at Lake Hollywood Park and this is the easiest way to get a relatively close view, though parking may be full.
We had an uber drop us here and also further up the hill whilst we did a 5 minute walk to a viewpoint and the uber waited for us (you need to be dropped at the junction of Mulholland Hwy and Ledgewood Drive and then walk up Mulholland Hwy which turns unpaved and scrubby for 5 minutes).
The latter is a much closer and up-front view of the sign, although the foreground is a bit scrubby and indeed had construction works whilst we were there. The foreground in the Lake Hollywood Park is more pleasant and you can still see the sign reasonably closely.

You can see sign much better from Hollywood. The angle is much better than the from the observatory park. It isn’t as large as you would think. TV and movies make it much more fancy.

Made me smile for sure- this iconic sign of the film industry stands historically serenely unfazed by the craziness around

We preferred seeing it from "Lake Hollywood Park". Found lots of other people spending time there along with their dogs as it was a nice sunny day.
The area itself is quite peaceful and hilly with a track approaching closer to the sign.

Great sunny day to view the sign with clear uninterrupted views. Plenty of visitors in the viewing park doing exactly the same as us. Quite a scenic drive to get to the sign too.

Had a fantastic time going up to the Hollywood sign. J.B explained everything, took pictures, and had a lot of fun climbing to the sign. I would recommend this tour to everyone.

One of the highlights of our trip. We caught an Uber to Beachwood Canyon and walked to behind the sign. The paths are wide and well sealed so you don’t feel unsafe at all. There were stunning views of LA and loved being so close to the sign that we had otherwise admired from a distance.
There is no shade from the sun so I think the walk in the cooler temps of winter was perfect.
We were so exhilarated by the climb and view that we decided to walk to the Griffith Observatory. This took us about 1 hour 45 mins with a few photo stops.
We forgot water so we were glad the weather was not hot. There was just one water stop on that walk and it’s quite a way in. Also, there are no toilets until you reach Griffith Observatory.
We definitely spent a lot longer doing the trails than we had planned but it was wonderful to be out in this wide open space in the middle of LA.
Google Maps does have the footpaths on their maps which are really handy if you get worried about which fork in the path to take.
You can easily catch Uber from the Observatory and there is a cafe there for refreshments.

The famous sign is visible from many places and points of view. It's up to you if you want to see it from near of far but I think anyone visiting LA would like a shot of this iconic symbol.

A fun visit to find a spot to see it but do not make it a main attraction. If you get to a spot where you can view it in the hills, take your pics and go. Be careful of parking in the hills as there's alot of no parking areas and they ticket you fast.

Nice hiking trial from the Observatory. Takes one hour. Nice view on both sides of the hill. Allways a good feeling when seeing the Sign

The only place to really view the sign from is the freeway as you're passing at 8 miles per hour. There are a couple of back streets where you can fight your way to the top through traffic but it's not a whole lot better View. I get one of those things or might want to do once and then just remember to look up once in a while driving by

Trip to California needed to include a view of the Hollywood sign. This girl didn't want to hike so I googled best place to view without hiking and it took me straight to a park with a great view. The extremely windy and narrow roads had me questioning my choice to do it several times but we got a great view. Thanks google!

All the locations and viewing spots can get quite crowded, so that is why we recommend and chose to go on a rainy day. Talk to local guides and they have a lot of spots and trails that are not as well known that you can go and get some great shots and not have a lot of other people in them. It always is fun to take a selfie in front of the Hollywood sign.

We saw the sign and wanted to get a close up view of Hollywood’s major landmark, but all the parking spots were taken. Oh well, it is a famous sign and photo op, but I’ve taken many photos of it in the past, using the sign as the major backdrop. I can’t get excited over the sign. It is most special to first time visitors to LA. I’ve been here over 100 times.

This sign makes Hollywood such a special place. It gives locals their identity. It shows tourists what they came to see. You can’t help but smile every time you look at it.

When we traveled to Los Angeles, California, a must-visit spot on our list was the Hollywood Sign, one of the most recognizable landmarks in the world.
Located on the southern slope of Mount Lee in the Santa Monica Mountains, this iconic symbol of the entertainment industry represents the glitz and glamour of Hollywood and has a rich history that reflects the evolution of Los Angeles itself.
The Hollywood Sign is synonymous with the global entertainment industry. It signifies the hopes and dreams of countless individuals who come to Hollywood seeking fame and fortune. Each year, millions of tourists flock to Los Angeles to catch a glimpse of the Hollywood Sign. It is a must-see destination for visitors looking to experience a piece of cinematic history, and we were among those.
We got lost on the roads of the hill, trying to find a spot for a nice photograph that would prove we had visited the Hollywood Sign. After an hour, we found it! A nice hill with an incredible view of the Hollywood Sign as a background, within walking distance from Lake Hollywood Park.
We highly recommend this spot to anyone traveling to this landmark. Snap a shot here, and you will not be disappointed.

As silly as it may seem to have no way to go to Los Angeles and not take a photo on the sign of Los Angeles, the official address is Lake Hollywood Park but if you put on the GPS Innsdale Dr 6300 W you will arrive in a short street that is close to the sign, is practically under the sign and can get by car, without having to make a trail or get lost in a lot of addresses that have no place to park. There's even a lady selling juice on site.

In Google maps, zoom in the area of the Hollywood sign and look for marker labeled "last house on Mulholland" follow directions and get creative with parking (you won't be the only one). You will have to walk a short while, but worth it.

This is a must see, it’s just a shame you can’t get right up to it but it’s a must if you visit Hollywood.

My recommendation: Skip the Walk of Fame, and use Uber or Lyft to take you to the 6200 block of Mulholland Highway in the Hollywood Hills. You’ll find a handful of spots to get great views of the sign — and can then meander down Mulholland a short distance to enjoy Lake Hollywood Park. I was there with my son, and this was a great way to let him see the sign without all the hassle and tourist traps of the Walk of Fame.

Like us if you don’t want to hike then best location to visit is from “Lake Hollywood Park”. But the area neighborhood is little difficult to drive with narrow lanes so Uber is best option alike we did. If you go by your own car might need little effort to find parking spot in peak time . Time spent : 15 to 30 minutes depending upon how many clicks you want .
To go there simple put “lake Hollywood park “ in google map or Uber and it takes to right spot .

The best way to view the site is to drive to Lake Hollywood Park. From there you can not only take great pics of the iconic sign, but also have fantastic views! The drive isn’t very long, about 2-3 miles up the hill past private homes. Make sure you go on a nice day. First time we got there, the sign was covered with clouds. We didn’t see much. Oh, and be prepared, there is zero internet there. No service for your data. So remember your roads once you start driving up the hill, so you could get back and not to get lost!

There is a large fence around the sign. The closest you can get to the sign is above and behind it. It's best seen from a distance in front of it. However, if you must see it up close, it involves hiking in the hills. Go early to get parking. It gets very crowded in the summer and weekends.

I guess this is the most recognized symbol of Hollywood. In many ways, it is simple, but a backdrop for many, many photos. On our visit to Hollywood, the skies were hazy, and our view of the sign was not clear.

It’s a bit of a hike up so take an Uber up and walk down. Perfect view from The Last House on Mulholland, 6101 Mulholland Hwy, Los Angeles, CA 90068, United States

1st time visiting the Hollywood sign on a Monday evening July 29th. We drove to the lake Hollywood park that's a dog park for a somewhat closer view without hiking up to the actual sign we just wanted in the background for pictures. Parking area is on a steep street and there's lots of drive thru traffic looking for a space to park.

A must do for Hollywood fans but not only! You can see the sign also from Las Vegas Hall of Fame shopping centres, from which I took my photo enclosed. Cannot miss that when in Los Angeles!

Well it was a pretty rough hike up there. We had way too little to drink with us. It is really steep in some parts and lots of rocks and dirt so better to have proper hiking shoes (instead of sneakers etc). Took about 2,5 hours with absolutely limited breathers and 5 mins at the sign. Sign is behind the fence and You can see only the top of the letters. I am not sure if this is the place to visit, unless You really enjoy hiking a lot! :)

We did this through Bikes & Hikes. Mark was fantastic, really knowledgeable & an excellent guide. Great to get close to the sign for photos, Mark happy to take pics for people which was lovely.

there is nothing to say about some letters on a side of a mount, they must think that is part of the seven wonders of the world in memory of dysfunctional characters

Read up on the history of the sign before you go. That will make it much more interesting to see even though it is so famous..

Yes, there are shorter paths and longer paths, as you can stick to the long and winding dirt road or venture off on to the trails, we did a little of both, and also finished in a different place from where we started. But this is the joy of this hike, it is a wide open canvas to be enjoyed by all. Some folks have written about the $10/hr parking fee, here is a tip, parking is free at the observatory before noon, and who wants to hike in the hot California sun once noon hits! Get there early, bring plenty of water and fuel (pretzels, energy gels, stem and leaf mandarins), make sure to use the restrooms at the end of the parking lot before and after you hike, and have a good time. Once you reach the top you’ll appreciate the enormity of the sign; I told friends it was font 1,000,000! Yes it is fenced off, as we always say, “Safety first!”

This was my second visit to "THE SIGN". I may not have made a special visit to see it again but we were traveling with friends who had never seen it. We were able to get pretty close to it and got some good pictures of it. It is a busy place as it is a must see if you are in the area.

The sign is obviously an icon that you cannot miss, even if you stay at a distance. Hiking to it is a popular pursuit, available in a number of variations. The "easiest" route is starting at Hollywood Lake Park, which is also the closest relatively convenient parking (the streets underneath the sign have no public parking whatsoever). From there, you soon end up on the sloping Mount Lee Drive, which is not too demanding (but, of course, it gets progressively hotter as the day advances). There is a fair dollop of disappointment at the end, in that you do not actually get near the letters - the peak point is above the sign with a limited skewed view of the letters. But great views over the city! The closest lookout from below is at the Tyrolean Tank Viewpoint, at the start of Mount Lee Drive. If hiking up to the peak is not your thing, make that your finish point - or even just do the Hollywood Lake Viewpoint. Ot the Observatory viewpoint, which is a different approach much farther away.

Excellent View, one of the famous LA attractions, Hollywood Sign which you should not be missed, Enjoy

The iconic Hollywood sign is best experienced by driving up beachwood at magic hour. You, and others will be able to see Hollywoodland in all its glory better this way.
Unless you want to dissect a hike to the top. It’s a bit of an undertaking to get up there and sort of worth it...but if you go up to the sign, get ready to pay a fine!!
It’s highly patrolled. Beware of anyone telling you it’s not!

do not try to drive up to the sign, you can not get anywhere close to it. The best view is on a clear day from anywhere in hollywood.

Although the place was packed and traffic was thick, it was well managed and the walk to the observatory to see the sites of LA was well worth it!

Why is this nine letter iconic sign so attractive? This sign that stood over a real estate development in order to attract and sell tract homes. This sign that originally read “Hollywoodland” yes, that’s what it said. This sign that has been redone many many times and now is fenced off so it can’t be graffitied again for the thousandth time.. this is an L A iconic landmark.. go see it

The Hollywood Sign is, of course, just that. It is, however, iconic and one can see it not only from in Hollywood, but also by getting up close to it by hiking through Griffith Park, where the sign is located. This huge park covers much of the hills between Hollywood proper and the San Fernando Valley to the north. Hiking trails like along Mulholland Trail and Mt. Hollywood Drive, or other trails and Mt. Lee Drive, can bring one close to the sign, either below and in front of it, or above and behind it. Some start from the Mt. Hollywood Drive stop for the DASH Observatory bus which makes a circuit between the Vermont and Sunset Metro stop and the Griffith Observatory. Other trails lead from elsewhere. One can find maps from of the Griffith Park trails online.

We had planned for 11 years for her trip to Vegas at age 21, came across a tour for Hollywood, from Vegas, It was a wonderful trip, So glad we got to see the sign, it makes a difference when you see something with your own eyes and not just a picture. The Hollywood walk of fame with the stars was great!!

Plenty of places to park. This place is not easy to get to walking since its uphill but still worth checking out because well, you are in HOLLYWOOD!!!

We got as close as we could. It is pretty amazing to see this closer than most photos. Yet once seen it is almost an afterthought.

I have visited LA and seen the famed HOLLYWOOD sign on several occasions and each time I seem to go view it from a different spot. On this visit we went to the 'Sign Viewpoint' at this address 3114 Canyon Lake Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90068
This was a good spot from which to see the landmark sign and also views of the Lake Hollywood Reservoir. You park in the side of the road and there is no fee's to pay.

It is a four mile hike to get to the top of the Hollywood sign but it's totally worth it you can see amazing views along the way including some of the movie studios. Plenty of places to stop and take pictures of the Hollywood sign but seeing the view from the top is breathtaking

if you are making this out to be something then at least keep it clean was advised by a local who works near by that it is best viewed form a distance

Obviously a must to see and photograph on a visit to Los Angeles, there are trails you can get to and get a close up of the sign, but there are elevated places on Hollywood boulevard where you can see and photograph it totally unobstructed

Griffith Observatory is the best place to see these letters that drive pretty much the whole planet crazy!

It was very neat to see from a distance but very overwhelming up close. Not worth the hike. If you do want to see it closer and get really good views of it, walk through the hills of Hollywood land

There is no “wow” effect visiting the Hollywood sign other than the accomplishment that you too have been the popular spot that is in movies. You can one day say “look I was there” to your grandkids lol. The hike is not that steep or far, there is really not much to it but the sign in the background.

You can see it from many places in town, also from some of the stops at Mulholland Drive, that offer nice photo motives. However, to visit the sign is more difficult. Car parking close to the Griffith Observatory is very difficult to get during peak times, from where the path towards the sign starts, and a walk through the huge Griffith Park takes several hours. In summer heat conditions not to be recommended.

The Hollywood Sign represents all things Hollywood. Peoples dreams and aspirations, it is very inspiring.

It was indeed a long hike from the Griffith Observatory .. I did made a mistake to start my hike quite late in the afternoon, 3pm and reached the back of the Hollywood sign around 530pm.. and the journey back was basically in darkness but luckily I was able to get back to the Observatory safely... Well, it is once in a lifetime experience since it is my first visit to Los Angeles after missing two opportunities to visit USA back in 1999 and 2009....

Though you can view the signs at many places from the city (eg. Hollywood & Highland Center & Griffith Observatory), we decided to drive to 3000 Canyon Lake Drive to take some photos for the iconic sign.
The place was filled with people and parking took forever but we made it. It is quite a steep slope to walk upwards or downwards so please be cautious.

We took the cab to get there, very foggy day , but still was worth the visit, very good experience, recommend to everyone

There are plenty of places to get a view of the Hollywood sign but if you want to hike to the BACK of the sign, here’s how to do it!
You cannot get close enough to touch the letters anymore but there is a pretty decent trail that runs close enough for great pictures of the front and you can continue up to the back of the letters.
The trailhead is at 6301 Innsdale Drive, 90068. It’s probably easier to Uber to this location as the road up Mt Lee is very narrow and winding. The trailhead is clearly marked and if you do drive, there is plenty of street parking available in front of the trailhead or on Innsdale Drive itself. DO NOT block anyones driveway - you will get towed! DO NOT street park where & when there is street cleaning or garbage collection - you will get towed! DO park in the direction of traffic otherwise, guess what? You will get towed!
Final tip - follow the trail. It takes you through residential areas but make sure you don’t ignore any signed for private land - there are plenty of great views and photo opportunities from the trail so you don’t need to disturb residents. Take plenty of water, decent walking shoes and a hat.
Enjoy!

The path to the sign is beautiful and stunning. It's a little hard to find, but it's super worth it. Here are the coordinates to find him on the map: Letter: 34,12588°N, 118,32651°O

One of the landmarks of Hollywood / Los Angeles... Directions tricky (summer 2024...) - construction sites on many roads with corresponding closures; diversions lead over very small, very narrow and very steep roads - beware oncoming traffic! At the apex with a walk to the photo spot, there is nothing left but to squeeze the car into the hillside in absolute ban and hope that no larger vehicle wants to pass (or the police come...). 5 minutes walk to the photo spot, a few clicks and then back again (including the narrow streets). Not for the faint of heart!

Weather was crummy this morning so we did not get a good shot. We have been here before several times. So no loss. Weather rain cold

The hike itself was fun and great exercise. Bring plenty of water. My daughter and I did fine with tennis shoes. Our Boston terrier required lots of stops and water. When you get to the top, you end up seeing the back of the sign and along the route you get to stop at the wisdom tree where LA city can be viewed on one side and San Fernando valley on the other. Nice cool breeze. What gave this a four star rating was a creepy man we encountered on the hike. He had a black hoodie on, black pants (zipper undone) and a grey backpack. We saw him at the start of our way back and he asked my daughter what time the park closed. I realized that we didn’t get a pic of our dog with the sign so we went back up for one. When we got back the man was still there, he didn’t move much at all. He was waiting for us. A gentleman we met near the sign was ahead of us so I was determined to catch up to him for safety in numbers. The creepy guy would walk behind us and stopped when we stopped. I told him to go ahead of us but he only went a few feet and then pretended to stop and stare off (no view in sight). Finally, I said let’s run to my daughter. But when we did, so did he!!! I mean the dude was right behind us. We caught up to the guy we were trying to catch up to and I whispered, “can we walk with you, the guy right there is creeping us out?” We we’re giving our dog water and was chatting with the gentleman and guess what? The creeper was waiting just a few feet away! Long story short... thank heavens for our “guardian angel” who walked with us back to our car. Once the creeper saw us hiking together, he fell behind. Lesson learned for anyone...walk with a group or ask friendly hikers to join you.

5 minute photo op but still iconic. I wouldn't do it again but I'm glad we took the time to see it once.

After we parked the car down the hill,we walked up roughly half an hour or little more,it’s been lovely but steep. We actually enjoyed walking more than the sign yet at the top of the road where the Hollywood Sign is the view is magnificent.LA is under your feet.We also had lots of nice shots.

Very cool seeing the Hollywood sign for the first time. Had a chance to view the sign while having lunch on Hollywood Blvd. Worth the trip to get close to view.

One can’t visit LA or Hollywood without seeing the iconic Hollywood sign. It is visible from many vantage points. As an internet search will tell you there are many routes to the sign. The Griffith Observatory is one such viewing point. There are trails to the actual sign but you must be prepared (water, proper footwear, dress & consider time required). Griffin Park has trails to the sign. Remember fences & no trespassing signs are to prevent you from touching or sitting or posing on the sign.

There are a lot of tours you can take to see the Hollywood Sign. If you want to do a short and easy hike to just take pics you don’t need to spend money on a tour. I recommend starting your hike via Innsdale Drive. I think it took us like 30 mins to do get to the top. The pics and the view was amazing. Some hikes can be as long as 7 miles. Yikes!! We just wanted the experience of taking pics with the sign. And this worked out great for us. We took a Lyft there and then we took one back to Universal Studios which was so close. Just put in Hollywood Sign via Innsdale Drive for directions or Lyft destination.

Obviously the Hollywood sign is iconic, and taking a picture from behind the letters is fun but once you get to the top there isn't much to do except go back down. I'd recommend skipping for Griffith Park/Ferndell trail and then you get to explore the observatory at the top and you'll still get a great picture of the hollywood sign.

Depending on where you park, this can be quite a walk. We were about 2-1/2 hours round trip. Look carefully for a map or at YouTube online. The trails are marked, but depending on which way you're walking, you might miss them and find yourself a bit lost! (we did) Also, there are NO BATHROOMS or trashcans anywhere on the walk, so be prepared! We walked from the canyon to the front of the sign...highly recommend walking to the front of the sign, as the backside of the sign is mostly towers and equipment. The trail is wide and well-kept. It is pristine, except for one piece of trash we saw! From the top, you can see the whole sign and a very beautiful vista of LA, including out to Palos Verdes and the ocean. It really is spectacular! We also recommend walking in cooler weather, as it is a bit of a hike from the canyon, and in summer it would be VERY hot!

This is a must do in LA. It is a 3 mile hike each way from the Observatory. Beware parking is $10/hr. There is no shade, water or washrooms on the hike and it is not signed well at all. Great pictures and glad we did it but beware! It's much harder than it seems!

We saw the sign from the Griffin Observatory so it’s obviously quite a distance. Hard to get a selfie where you could read it but glad we were able to tick it off the list.

The hike up from to the Hollywood sign via Canyon Drive is one of my favorite activities in LA. It's a moderate climb offering great views of the surrounding area on your up to (or down from) the Hollywood sign. It's a fairly popular hike, and not very shaded. I would advise that you get there as early as possible. 7 am still allows you some parking spots at the bottom of the climb, but I would shoot for 6 am as the light is much better and not as crowded. It's a fairly unshaded trail, so make sure you bring your hat, sun block, and plenty of water. It's listed as a 5.7 mile hike (there and back) but we are fairly experienced hikers, so we complete the hike in about 2 hours. Mind you, we also don't stop and gawk at the view as much as the other people. If you don't want to do the entire climb, you can can hike to the viewing platform about 1 mile from the sign, but the selfie opportunity at the top is much better. The trail is also dog-friendly, so expect to meet a lot of Hollywood pooches along the way. I have also hiked this trail in the late afternoon, and the views in the early evening are quite stunning. Be warned that the park at the bottom closes at sundown, so plan your visit accordingly.

Waking up in the morning and seeing from the large window the mythical writing in the background makes a certain effect, then if you get there even below and really unique!

The over-famous sign that Tom Cruise changed to an Olympic sign at the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics. I heard that the original purpose of the installation was put out by a real estate agent with guidance. That's the most famous sign in the world.

The Hollywood sign was an honest waste of time. You park the car at the road side and then you take a picture and walk back down. I much preferred going to the observatory at the top even though I went for the Hollywood sign.

We visited here on Sunday around noon. The GPS took us to Griffith observatory to view the Hollywood sign. We were much to the right hand side of the sign. We could see it but it was not a great photo opportunity.

nice place to take photos but don't put in google map hollywood sign.
the best place to see hollywood sign and take nice photos is lake hollywood park
where you can park your car and walk little to take photo with hollywood sign
but by careful that there are very limited parking places.
also nice small park to stay in
reserve 2-3 hours for this visit and plan it early morning

You can’t come to LA & not see the iconic Hollywood sign!
We chose to drive up Mulholland Drive & stopped at a designated rest spot, with several steps up to great viewing platform. We could clearly see the Hollywood sign AND great views over LA that were breathtaking.

You can’t come to LA without a visit to Hollywood and trip up into the hills to see and have pictures taken in front of the famous sign can be seen from various places in and around Hollywood but best views at Lake Hollywood park

Hollywood Sign is only one of it’s kind in the world. There are several places in and around Los Angeles/Hollywood area from where the sign is visible. The best way to view the sign from up close is to park the car alongside Lake Hollywood Park and walk up the hill towards an empty open space. The walk could be a bit strenuous and is about a mile from Lake Hollywood Park. Spectacular views of downtown LA from up that hill as well. Certainly worth several camera pic clicks from any spot where the sign is visible.

if you can get close enough and a great view that is always fun. the surrounding area has some really nice homes but of course it can be windy roads on hills to try to get up close

This sign is iconic, period. Our tour guide showed us many angles of photo opportunities. It's free to see and a must do while in LA.

Yes we did closer just need to be patient to drive nearby pass the neighborhood community to get a good pic of the Hollywood sign

It’s a nice place but you need to make sure the weather is nice before going. We went on a very hot morning 🥵 and it was so hard to hike

The iconic Hollywood sign is a cool thing to see, but don’t look too hard for it at night because it is totally dark and you won’t be able to see it. Disappointing. Stories have it that the lights were turned off during the energy crisis and were never turned back on.

I had to travel to California for work and decided to go a little early to tour the place since it was on my bucket list. My first stop was the infamous Hollywood sign. I signed up for a group tour, glad I did, because I would have gotten lost trying to navigate to the top.
The view along the trail was awesome, we took the least popular trail, and our guide was great. Unfortunately, I didn’t make it to the back of the sign, my legs were bothering me, but all in all, I enjoyed the hike.
Must see if you’re ever out in Hollywood.

Good to spot from a distance for sure but wouldn't spend much time or any money to get to it though.

Very hard to get there, park your car on the side of the road, and walk about 2 miles to get one glimpse of it.

Great hike up. Not too strenuous but a good hike up. Make sure to use Google maps to find your way up and down.

We saw the Hollywood sign from Griffith Observatory and we were not disappointed. We had a great view and got some wonderful pictures.

If you're going to LA you have to see the famous sign! I recommend going to Lake Hollywood Park for the views. There is free parking and you can see the sign really well. You can also hike close to the sign from the park. Be aware the neighborhood right under the sign HATES tourists and they do everything they can to make it difficult to see and park.

A must see when you’re in Hollywood. We viewed it from Griffith Observatory, but there are many areas to choose from for pictures. Another item off the mist-see list.

One of the most famous sights in the world and a must visit when you are in Los Angeles. We saw it from afar and got excited, we drove uphill between the narrow streets with the beautiful houses, until we reached the lake Hollywood park where you can to take great photos from there with the Hollywood sign in the background. And let me not forget to mention that the view of the Hollywood Hills is amazing.

There is not much to do in the area except to see the famous Hollywood Sign and take in the nice views of the city from the hills. The Hollywood Sign is fenced off so that you can't get right up to it but you will be able to get some great photos from there. If you are driving, take N. Beechwood Drive for some great views of the area. It is worth seeing and it feels good to know that you have been there.

Beautiful view wish we could have got nearer would have loved to stand beside this well worth a tour to see this

The Sign is visible from afar, seeing it from a good viewpoint is better than up close, as it is 45 feet high (13.7 meters) when you are close to it you will not be able to view it.
There are few locations that are considered a Hollywood Sign viewpoint including the Griffith Observatory, the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue…etc.
If you insist on getting close to the Sign you have to know that it is illegal to come close to the Sign except from behind, make sure to find the best trail and follow the legal trail, and do not wander around, finally the hike is difficult so prepare yourself with good hiking shoes and lots of drinking water.

As much as I would love to rave about this day out, for May the weather was awful and it poured with rain which ruined the experience but hey at least I can say I went to see the sign!

After living in LA for decades, I finally went up with my hiking group to the spot under the Hollywood sign on a beautiful clear day. The hike was not too strenuous and the view was certainly worth it. The group did not feel like going up to the top to the sign, but I liked the area so much that I went back two days later and hiked all the way up. There you have even more panoramic views to the ocean and the Verdugo Mountains. It is best to do this hike when it not too warm as there is little shade.

If one visits Hollywood, you must view the Hollowood Sign siting on the top of Mt. Lee. Yes, the sign can be observed from different location throughout Hollywood. However, you really need to get up close and personal with the sign. The giant white sign is 450 feet in length and each of the 9 letters is 45 feet high, spelling out the name of the city. NOTE: You cannot access the sign from the front. If you attempt to do so, be prepared for a heavy find, possible jail time, etc. Sign can only be viewed from the back side. By hiking up Burbank Peak Trail (formerly Wonder View Trail) to Cahuenga Peak, the Hollywood sign may be reached via a 3.8-mile round trip hike that ascends 925 feet. The hike crosses a rugged single-track, visiting two peaks while providing a good workout on a less-traveled trail. Trail is rated moderate to advanced. Recommend utilizing the free street parking along Lake Hollywood Drive and walk a quarter mile (paved path) to the gate at the end of Wonder View Drive, where the trail starts. Be advised the trail covers some steep terrain. Be prepared for lots of snakes on the trail. During our hike, note more than 5 rattlesnakes. Wisdom Tree is the ideal spot for a rest break. Sit in the shade and enjoy the fantastic views of Hollywood and the surrounding area. It is a short distance from Wisdom Tree to the top of Mt. Lee and the backside of the Hollywood sign. The sign is enclosed by a chain link fence. Interesting, even if you only see the backside of the letters. This trail will give you a workout. Excellent, and fun trail. Strongly recommend all hikers who utilize this route, dress appropriately, (i.e., sunscreen, hat, good hiking boots or shoes, and lots of water. You are going to need it as the weather heats up. We started hiking early, but the summer heat certainly made it guess appearance. Got hot incredibly early in the day. Suggest taking your time, (2-4 hours), enjoy the views and have fun hiking.

Definitely worth a look if you’re in the area-I’ve seen it so many times on television and it was cool to be able to see it in person!

I just wish I could take yours up there. You can see it from the city and it is amazing. Make sure you take a tour bus around town.

I was very excited to find out that there are excellent views of the Hollywood sign from Griffith Observatory. It is a little further away than I have seen it in the past and it was a little hazy, but I was able to get some great photos, without having to stop along the narrow roads of the Hollywood Hills to snap a photo or two. Nice alternative.

It’s quite a hike to get up there so make sure you have enough water, comfortable shoes and clothing.

Walk/Hike was super fun. Just bring plenty of water and good walking shoes. There are different areas/trails that you can take. But typically we spent at least 3 hours walking up. So nice and went on a good day/weather. The day before we toured the other areas and the weather was a bit cold in the morning and was cloudy half of the day. But we went on a good day. We didn't do the Wisdom Tree. We were both tired by then. But will definitely do this again if i ever come back to California!

Very cool thing to see, but didn't realize a major walk would be needed to get close to the sign. We just looked at it from Griffith park.

We hiked to the sign without a tour guide. This was our first time in Hollywood so we knew we wanted to hike it. We had no idea what to do and there are not many posted signs to help. We figured it out, it can be done on your own. Things to know: Take your Uber/Taxi/Lyft to the Griffith Observatory. (We told our driver to take us to the sign and he dropped us off at some tennis courts. We had to take another driver to the right spot.) Thats where the hike will begin. For non-hikers like us, it took us 4 hours to go behind the sign, in front of the sign, and back. There is VERY LITTLE signage along your way. There is also only one drinking fountain. Be prepared with water. The water fountain is about an hour's hike from the sign. Bring plenty. Going behind the sign is pretty cool. You can take some cool pics from the platform. Its worth the hike. You can then also go back down the mountain and take another path for a head on view. It is totally worth it. Wear VERY COMFORTABLE shoes and plan for this to take anywhere between 3-5 hours. Depends on in shape you are. And how long you want to take in the view. I am very glad I did it. My legs hurt very bad that evening, but I now have the memory forever!

Difficult to approach because of the suicides etc that it seems to attract, still highly visible from the Magic Castle
or several restaurants or hotels nearby

We started from the bottom parking lot and the walk up to where the observatory parking is was steep,, but after that it is pretty gradual climbs. Bring water there is very little shade so hydration and sunscreen are a must. Yes you can drive up to the sign, we know how, however, it was a beautiful day and it was a relaxing hike!

The hike was SOMETHING!!!! Bring water, sunscreen, and a light snack like fruit for the mission. We walked to take pictures below the sign as if we were holding the sign up and continued the walk to the top where we were in back of the sign. The views at the top was AMAZING. the entire trip up (not including breaks) was a little over 1 hour. there are many pathways along this trail. Before coming i found a tiktok video which should us the route to get to both locations and were to park for free. Would do it again!!

Park your car at the Griffiths observatory and combine this visit to get "two for one". Fantastic view over LA from this nearby attraction. There is no coffee stops on this trail so bring your own besides lots of water, you sure need it on hot days. It takes 1-2 hours to get there but is worth every penny.

I dont think a visit to LA is complete without seeing the sign.
As we were tight on time a hike up to the sign was not possible so we saw from the Hollywood and Highland centre.
A great view.

Can be a little bit tiring but, in my opinion, absolutely worth it. You get very nice views on the way there as well as on the top.
It takes about an 1h to get to the sign and then slightly less to get down.
The paths are are rocky and sandy so don’t bother wearing your brand new designer shoes. Also make sure you have a bottle of water with you.
Enjoy!

In WAZE APP type in either 6100 Innsdale Drive or 3200 Durand drive. These two addresses will take you to this point. The 6100 Innsdale drive you will have to make a right at the end instead of staying to the left. 3200 will take you straight there.

There are several places in the city that you can take pictures from the sign, but most from far away. It's a private place, so you can't get too close. But there are parks and trails that you can get a little closer, but you have to go by car.
I used the Ovation Hollywood shopping mirror to see the sign.

What a total waste of time. When in LA, you feel that you should see the famous hillside Hollywood sign. The part you don’t know is that to get there, you have to drive through a very high-end neighborhood with “No Parking” signs everywhere. You feel like interlopers from the get go. When you get to the top, you have to pay $10 to park at an observatory to see the sign, which is pretty decrepit and appears to need maintenance, or at least a serious touching up. Save your time and your $10. There’s nothing to see here, folks.

We went on this tour at 9am with a wonderful, physically fit tour guide named Noelle. She was very thorough in giving us all the background about the houses & the history behind the famous Hollywood sign. She made sure that everyone on the tour got as many lovely photographs as they wanted once we got to the top. She advised us of many other things we could do while visiting the Los Angeles & Hollywood area. All in all the tour was enjoyable but be sure to wear comfortable shoes and it will challenge you a bit with the uphill areas. Loved it

We did this hiking tour late evening with Jen & Ziggy (AirBnb Activities) and it was awesome. We found the best spots to take pictures, had a wonderful guide with amazing stories of Griffith Park, the sign itself and the surrounding areas. Our guide also took some awesome pictures of everyone in the group.
I am so glad we went on a guided tour instead of doing this by ourselves as we learnt so much and had so much fun on the way.
BTW - the sign is HUGE - you just need to get close enough to be able to tell. The tour all the way to the hill above the sign is highly recommended.

Its a landmark to visit if you are in LA. You can visit very near if you take a hike but there are many points which will take you as close as we can see in picture.

Well worth going on a tour so that you can get to see the sign. It is now cordoned off so you can’t get to the bottom of the letters.

You can take a very zoomed in picture at the griffith observatory if you want to. After the sign its nothing else

The Sign debuted in 1923 as "HOLLYWOODLAND," a $21,000 temporary billboard atop the hills of Beachwood Canyon, overlooking the Hollywoodland real estate development. Located at 3800 Mount Lee Drive, on a steep hillside of Mount Lee in southwestern Griffith Park, overlooking Beachwood Canyon, Hollywood and the Los Angeles basin, this world-famous landmark is visible for miles, a symbol of Los Angeles' prosperity and industry. In 1947, as the sign began to experience a gradual decline, the city advocated tearing the sign down. But residents protested and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce offered to finance a renovation of the sign, provided the last four letters "LAND" were removed. The sign was designated a City of Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 1973, which led to a "Save the Sign" campaign to rebuild and preserve the sign. In 1978, the Hollywood Trust was established to maintain, repair and provide capital improvements to the sign. Today, the Hollywood Sign continues to symbolize Los Angeles' sense of place and Hollywood's standing as the world-wide center of motion pictures and cinema arts.

We did the hike, was amazing not easy to do. full of nature and good sight of the city, take water with you. UBER and LIFT will take you to the entrance with no issues. by the left side of the entrance is a nice place to take a pic with the sign in the back. PPL don't bother and also was not dangerous. Full go people up and down , also a few dogs.

We took a tour bus there. Winding up famous roads and even seeing celebrities homes it was well worth it to get to the top and walk up steps and see the amazing view with the hollywood sign.

Not worth going through the trouble to click a picture. Not lit up at night. An absolute waste of time. Avoid.

Apart from being an iconic sign board, the Hollywood sign board is really no big deal. You drive up. Take a look around. Take a photo. You drive back down.

You can't go to LA and not get a picture with the Hollywood sign. GPS will take you to the best viewing point but mind you it is very crowded and parking is along the residential streets so can be hard to find. Also the viewing point is very crowded so hard to get a picture without strangers in it. You can drive around the windy residential roads in order to get close to the sign. However since roads are narrow and residents have their cars parked, at times there could be a traffic jam with incoming traffic. Also do not even think about parking in no parking zone as the parking patrol officer does roam around the area and will issue a fine. Can hike to get close to the sign, however we did not so cannot comment on it.

It is a must-do there and the most popular picture as well. Despite going by car, It was hard to reach it and it was like a maze in addition to losing the internet signal. Some places offer a good view for pictures like Lake Hollywood Park.

Such an easy trip to make and a true landmark of LA. This sign never gets old. If you are in the area stop and snap a shot!

Stopped in with my girls and their new cameras to take pictures of the classic sign. Went Lake Hollywood Park to see the sign. It was a great view. Fun to see such an iconic sign.

Hiked to the Hollywood sign but ended up still quite a bit away from the sign. The view was nice but the hike was a bit brutal. Very little sun and some steep hills for a Florida girl. Not what I expected but still a good time.

Some might call it a pilgrimage, hiking up to the giant white letters you see in almost every movie set in L.A. But actually getting to the top is a dose of reality.
90% of the hype surrounding the sign is just in seeing it. It's a goal in and of itself. T Once you get to the top, if the crows that throw rocks don't get you, you can look over the top of the backwards letters and see the city in the distance. Also, what nobody talks about is the absolutely hideous radio tower, wreathed in barbed wire fence, that the crows seem to be in a constant war with.
Dide I have a good time? Yeah, I did, because I was hiking with friends and it was neat to see the sign. Will I go again? Probably not.

There are a couple of places in LA to get a good view of the Hollywood sign but I found the hiking through the Lake Hollywood park an awesome, rewarding one. Access is a bit tricky - it's almost at the end of the road going to Hollywoodland, and parking can be a bit restricted (you park along the road near the trail entrance).
Our hike to the bridge with a view to the lake took about 40 minutes, but it really depends on your pace. The hike is nice, not too strenuous, and the view of the sign is as good as it gets. I definitely recommend, if you can find the place (and parking).

Perched atop Mount Lee, this global symbol of Hollywood glamour measures 450 feet in length with mammoth white letters, each standing 45 feet high, spelling out the name of the city. There is no access to The Hollywood Sign as it sits on restricted property however, there are several scenic view points below which provide great photo opportunities.

We chose the Innsdale Trail to see the Hollywood Sign and it turned out to be a great decision. We found free parking on Tahoe Drive, where there was plenty of space available, and from there it was just a quick 5-minute walk to the start of the trail.
The trail itself was well-maintained and made for an easy, enjoyable walk. We decided not to hike all the way up to the sign, as there were plenty of great spots along the way to snap some pictures. After about 15 minutes of walking, we found ourselves with some fantastic views of the sign. The entire experience was laid-back and perfect for anyone looking for a short, scenic walk to see this iconic landmark.

After 8+ years of living here, I finally got around to hiking up to the sign as part of the #localadventurechallenge lol! Not sure why I waited so long...it was a great hike!
So the address listed in yelp takes you to the street parking area of the Brush Canyon Trail, but if you drive up further, there’s a large parking lot with plenty of spaces...there’s even a second, smaller parking lot a bit further up as well. But we didn’t know that so we parked on the street lol! But it was a nice walk through the park to get to the trailhead anyway, so I’m glad we did! The trailhead that we ended up at was the Brush Canyon Trailhead and our hike from the street parking all the way up to the sign was about 5.9 miles (about 2.5-3 hours). There were some inclines but nothing too crazy...very doable.
We got there just before 9am on a Sunday and there was still plenty of parking and it wasn’t too crowded going up - but coming down we passed crowds of people so my advice is to get here early! It’s also pretty hot and dry with sporadic shade so early is better. The trail had several markers with distances marked on them along the way. There are many gorgeous viewpoints and you can even see downtown LA (aka DTLA) - it was very smoggy so our view wasn’t too great but you could still see it faintly in the distance if you know what you’re looking for (I marked it with some arrows in my pics to give you an idea).
The park outside of the trail has picnic tables and lots of shade, really lovely. There are a couple of port-a-potties but they were the most disgusting ones I’ve ever seen, so definitely use the bathroom elsewhere lol!
Overall, it’s a great hike and a fun touristy thing to do in the area. My only cautions are get there early to avoid heat and crowds and watch out for people riding horseback and the horse poop - oh and use the bathroom before you come bc the port-a-potties were absolutely foul!

We went hiking to the Hollywood sign with a company Tom, Jess & friends Our guide Ted was very informative and funny
It was amazing to see the sign so nearby and even above it
Once in a lifetime experience

My family-friends drove to Griffith Observatory for us to see LA from the top. Parking is around $10.
Quite smoggy on our day there. We walked over to the side of the Observatory hill that faced the Hollywood sign.
Can come to LA without seeing the Hollywood sign!

Can be seen from anywhere near the sign definitely a must when in LA area best to get up early to get a good parking spot

This is just a sign, but yet it is so special that it just got to be checked out. There are hiking options to get a bit closer and views from distance - can’t really say distance makes a difference, you just got to see it.

We took a tour to hike up the trail up to the Top of the Hollywood Sign.
Wear comfortable shoes and dress for a nice long hike up the hill.
But the views are worth the hike. We could see Long Beach and Catalina Island from the top. Take a guided tour if you not a local and familiar with the trails. It is not clearly mark and you could loose your way.
But the views are definitely worth it.

We did the hike it’s an amazing view and not too hard. Its sad you can’t get closer
But you can still get a good pic!
The path is well defined and easy to follow.

For sure is a place to visit and take a shot becuase is enormous and so beautiful. The only is to be careful where to park , police ready to give you tickets

You do not need to hike here , we drop up to a state park and got the best view of the sigh , it’s on a steep hill little bit of walking but if you go at a good time get good parking it’s from your car to the landing where pictures are amazing

Great little park to see the hollywood sign, that is always showned when you see oictures of Hollywood must see for any tourist when going to CA.

We really don't like hiking, so we decided to do it the easy way.
If you have "Google Maps" and you like to do things your way, follow my steps.
That day, I draw my own maps (see pics) and I decided to follow two different paths.
The first one is uphills and the second is downhills.
If you have some time to spare, you drive West of Downtown, pass Getty Center and go East to "Hollywood Sign View Point". The drive is very pleasant in a residential route, full of trees in low traffic.
View point is the closest point to take pictures and it has plenty of space that you can legally park. Take lots of pics from the sign and overlooking LA.
On your way back, you just follow the same road downhills, you pass very nice houses in a very low traffic area.
Don't be scared of the signs that they discourage tourist to go around.
My way back was through "Santa Monica Blv" to Santa Monica Pier.
(was it helpful? give your vote)

We enjoyed our tour. We book the first walking tour of the day but we're unable to get to the tour on time but the tour company was very accommodating. They allowed us to join the next tour. The guide was great very funny and knowledgeable.

If you go to Los Angeles and don't go somewhere where you can take a photo with the most famous sign in the world, you will be missing that photo to keep as a souvenir.

We walked from the Observatory and took an unpaved route for over a mile (a bit scary) but ended up on a paved road and walked to the back of the sign. Cool view! We then walked around to get a good pic of the front. Lots of walking but worth it.

Iconic Hollywood stop! Be sure to take an Uber or taxi to the start of the hike as street parking around that area is reserved for residents only- you will get a ticket. My ticket was $68- live and learn. I would go back again, but I would change how I got there.

What a view!! See the whole city of LA. We hiked the six mile trail to behind the sign. It’s great exercise.

Definitely exciting to see this in person but once we’d taken our pics at the Griffith Observatory we didn’t feel it necessary to try and get any closer. We enjoyed the views from here but with young children, hiking any further wasn’t really an option for us.

I was quite impressed to see the Hollywood sign on the famous hill. Even from a distance, it impresses, but more for the story, than for the writing itself. Iconic.

You have to do it. The best little hike in LA. We parked at the bottom and walked the street up to the hiking area. We stayed on the trails as requested and were able to get some of the best shots of the Hollywood sign. We don't suggest the hike from the observatory because you see the back of the sign. There was a small hill you could walk up that got you a perfect tourist shot!!! Hot day, bring water. The houses there in the Hollywood Hills have such character. Our favorite was the one that had the garage painted like a bookshelf. Go have fun. Don't forget to leave no trace and don't be a bother to the neighbors.

We hiked the Brush Canyon trail that takes you up past the Hollywood sign and behind it. It's not too strenuous but there are a few spots that are a little steep. Not a ton of shade so bring sun block and water. No facilities along the way. You share the trail with people on horses too. The hike takes about 90 minutes to get behind the sign. Amazing views. We had a really perfect day for it. Clear blue skies. No smog. Parking wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. It was a Saturday afternoon and I expected it to be packed. There are two lots at the trailhead. You can also park along the street. We found a spot in the first lot with no problem. There are porta-johns in the lot to use before or after you hike. They do close the gates I think after sunset so be warned.

Landmark overlooking LA. Today, I finally hiked to it! I've done the Beechwood Drive view (good for quick photos), and I've hiked the Hollyridge trail that starts from the Griffith Observatory (good views but not directly nearby). I would say, of all of them, this hike was the best. Great views of the sign (see my photos), and you get right up to the top, and end up BEHIND the sign. If you are bringing tourists and just want the photos, you can easily capture those in the first half mile of the Innsdale hike.
My takeaways, like many others suggested:
1. Go early. Fewer crowds and not as hot.
2. Bring lots of water and take frequent breaks.
3. We were able to hike it in about 2hrs, 15min. Roundtrip.
4. It is uphill the entire way, much of it paved. The last mile to the top is a tad steep, but doable...just take your time. My teenage daughter who has been not exercising during COVID complained all the way to the top. Lol
5. Enjoy the views! They are amazing!
6. Follow social distance guidelines (as of July 2020).
7. One last thing, pay attention to markers...this hike was mixed with dirt, paved, and residential areas...it helps to know how to get back.
Enjoy - very unique experience!

Griffith Park up time the conservatory was gorgeous. Beautiful weather and not crazy crowded. Be careful where you self park because on the roads is not clearly marked no parking areas and we got a ticket.

Dont forget to get some water and snacks and of course a good quality shoes!
We spend a few hours over there but It was fun and we didnt even get tired!
Location is fine and has an easy access to whatever you want to do!
enjoy your daay!

You must go hiking and see the sign up close. Than when you look at the back, you see the beautiful city. Very nice to check out LA view.

Overrated touristy place. Nothing special another than a long drive. Does not have amentities or any entertainment or dining nearby. Not worth a drive. Not the first priority place to see in LA, such Getty’s or Kodak Theater, would recommend to visit in last. Still an iconic symbol of LA.

If your in Hollywood you must see the iconic Hollywood sign we did a few sightseeing trips Beverly Hills etc but none got near enough to the sign, and a trip to the sign only was $30 per person, all you have to do is get the LYFT taxi app on your phone if your in the Sunset or Hollywood Blvd area a cab is only $7 when you get up there you can’t believe how big the letters are. As I said it’s a must see

I visited California in August 2015 (it was my last trip as a underaged girl!) and how couldn’t I visit Hollywood, the Mecca of the cinema? Actually, the sign itself is nothing special, due to its distance is even difficult to photograph, but at least once in a lifetime you have to see it.

We did the hike in the middle of summer, but was surprisingly not too bad. We were very red and watched others (probably locals) walk up without breaking a sweat ha! The walk took us about 20 minutes up at an average pace, we ubered up and down for time purposes.
The view is incredible, you can see for miles on a good day.
If you’re in town and have 1,5-2hrs to spend some time getting up and down I highly recommend. You can also walk from Griffith observatory but we didn’t have time to do that

We visited in May on our own and for free and went the way all the Hollywood Sign tours go. Starts at Innsdale Trailhead, 6100 Innsdale Dr. LA CA 90068. (Open 5AM to 10:30PM) Free legal curbside street parking was on all the streets next to Innsdale Trailhead. (its seems most of LA is residential and you can hike from/in and park curbside in residential areas as per LA city code. Do not park on red or yellow curbs, if parking hours are posted pay attention) There were views of Hollywood Sign all the way as my friend wanted to take it easy. Directions: Free legal curbside park right next to Innsdale trailhead on Innsdale Drive, Tahoe, Canyon Lake or Lake Hollywood Drive. Start by taking Innsdale dirt path, turn left on paved Mulholland, then take another immediate left through auto barriers to end of Mulholland (Last House on Mulholland View Point) From there, Turn right onto small dirt path that goes around to Mt Lee Drive and large green gate. From here use the chain link door to left of Green Gate. After that hike up Mt Lee paved road all the way to back view or Tyrolian Tank Road to front view. Be careful google app will send you to the Observatory! If you are visiting the Hollywood Sign then you are "local traffic". You can also use a hiking app for "Hollywood Sign via Innsdale and Mt Lee." take water, don't smoke, too hot for dogs midday in summer. LA parking patrols take their lunch here and patrol this legal curbside parking area to make sure people are not loud.

The Hollywood sign can be viewed from several locations, but although the maps show a drivable route it is fenced off before too far. Nevertheless, a little ingenuity we got several shots of the sign, especially Lake Hollywood.

Definitely worth it!
You can uber most of the trip and you then only need a 20 minute easy walk to get some great pics
very easy to call an Uber home

I took the almost 2 hour hike, but stopped short of the Hollywood sign, instead turned where the trail led to the Observatory.
Then circled around and the vistas opened up revealing the wonders of the various skylines: Burbank, Glendale, Downtown, Century City, Wilshire District and Hollywood. It is a faultless hike, perfumed by the fauna and flora of the environment , and having made oft treks there, developed my own secret garden there.
I can not wait for the spring so that I can immerse myself in the timeless beauty of my past experiences.
Especially now, when the virus rages, I can't wait to find my piece of paradise.

With 3 days only in LA I don't know what to do as it's too mucho. We've been to disney and today to the signs with Helly, an incredible local guide we found on fb. We went up in the late afternoon to see the sunset - this has been by far the best moment while being in the US this time. Helly also know the best spots and angles for taking pictures - she's a pro!! Hands up for this place

Food was GREAT,SERVICE A+, and Popcorn fresh, buttery, and plentiful! Dont miss if you're in Michigan City Indiana!

It is a sign. It is big. It is cool. Some pranksters once made it say Hollyweed. That was really funny.

While it was exciting to see the sign, you are not able to get close to it without taking a 4 hour round trip hike. Event with this, you are still limited with how close you can get to it. The Griffith Observatory was an educational place to visit, but the visibility to sign is ok at best. Not what I was hoping for, but I’d love to be right up on the sign for pictures. Depends on what you expect. This was taken from the roof of the observatory.

Dreaming of coming to Hollywood since I was a child this iconic sign encapsulated the image I had in my mind. There’s several places to get a good photo- from Beachwood Canyon you get a nice straight shot and also from the Dog Park off Mulholland there’s a great photo op.

A bit underwhelming in reality. The sign was so far away it wasn't really impressionable. Our view was from the Griffith observatory which is worth a visit.

Joe was our tour guide. He was informative, funny and had great customer service. It was a beautiful day to hike. It took 2 hours to and from the sign. Joe talked about different sceneries and explained every detail. He also picked up trash along the way! That shows character and how much he cares about his job and enjoys it. He gave every family their share of photos and he was our personal photographer for the moment. I highly recommend his tour.

Just my opinion. It took forever to get there and the view is nothing special. You can superimpose your pictures with the sign in the background without wasting all that travel time.

This sign, that originated as an advertisement for a housing development Hollywoodland, is world recognized symbol for the city and can be seen from all over the city. I will say we tried to reach a park just under the sign for pictures, but roadwork closed access from the east side. We did get to see the original office for the Hollywoodland development.
As for the sign you can also get great pictures from Griffith Observatory and Griffith Park on the hike to the top of Mount Hollywood. Please note the sign is not on Mount Hollywood but rather Mount Lee. Just on the west side of Griffith Observatory, there is a viewing platform for the sign. There is also a pair of angel's wings that is perfect for pictures with the sign between the wings. It is an amazing sign to see from all over the city.

There was a few places to catch a nice view of the Hollywood sign for a photo op. We caught some good ones while on Hollywood blvd at the Hollywood and highland by the Chinese theatre. We also catch a great view from the Griffith Observatory.

It's a big sign...in Hollywood. It reads "Hollywood." People flock from all over in order to read this sign or be photographed standing near it or with it in the distance. We didn't do that. Rather, it was one of many sights on our open bus tour of celebrity homes and sights. Cool...

Stopped around 2pm on my first visit to Hollywood. The drive to the public view point is through a residential area. Traffic was bumper to bumper and there is only street parking so be prepared for a walk if it is busy.
We parked down the hill so had a few block walk uphill. It is accessible with a chair but someone with a cane or Walker would probably have trouble with the walk unless you can get much closer.
Very safe area with police on-site. I did not notice any restrooms available. There were a few street vendors selling fresh fruit cups.
Worth the stop to see it once but I’m not sure it is something you need to return to see twice.

This is iconic and you can't be in the area for the first time without at least saying you got to see it.
Overall I couldn't imagine being within a mile or two of this and not saying I had seen it with my own two eyes.

Checked on google maps a hike to reach the sign but we ended up in the back of the sign you can check the photos to know what I mean! Although we were literally next to the sign I mean closer that the path that takes you to the front. Anyway it was a nice and fun hike that took us 2 hours in total

A must see for anyone visiting Los Angeles. We visited Lake Hollywood Park and took lots and lots of photos! Can park at side of road for free.
Refreshments were available from a few stalls which seemed reasonably priced.

The Hollywood sign on it's own is just a plain sign/letters, but the journey of hiking to the top of Mt Lee up to the sign is great!
This review is about the hike we did to the Hollywood sign - we took Wonder View Trail. Which starts from the end of wonder view drive, up to the Wisdom Tree, and then we continued up to the Hollywood sign (the back of it).
Find parking on the street, and walk to the gate at the end of wonder view drive. from their, the hike starts and it can be pretty steep at times but well worth it. Once you get to the Wisdom Tree there is some nice shade under the tree and the views are fantastic. Once rested, continue the hike to the top of Mt. Lee to the Hollywood sign. You reach the road which is at the back of the sign and it's fenced off, but nonetheless there are really nice views.
Lots of fun, and the kids enjoyed it too. Bring lots of water.

a little disappointed by the distance one has to stay away, but overall a nice walk up to the sign and then to the peak. best to know your bearings before you go to point out to areas youve been or want to see. would be nice to have a plaque with the different points of interest

I saw the sign from the top of the Griffith Observatory's hill, which is one of the most famous viewpoint for this matter. I don't think that the sign itself is so wow, but it's surely on everybody's to-do list when passing LA, and I completely get it.

Had to do this hike because of my hollywood movie freak friend and photo opportunities. The hike was easy for the most part with slightly challenging parts. I am not sure thought whether we took the correct trail or not. Started from the Griffith observatory and went along the marked trails till a point and then lost our way somewhere and followed google thereafter. Reaching the top of a mountain always gives a satisfaction and the views were also beautiful from the top. The sign was visible from the backside and I thought we somehow missed the main photo location. On the way down, we found the perfect spot. Took a lot of pictures (of my friend in front of the sign 😑) and then back to the city. Overall a great experience.

Seen from hotel window, seen from parking lot, seen up close on a tour.....snapped, tagged, posted...job done.
Nothing more to add.

We used our phone for directions and it sent us to a closed road with no view and no parking. SOOOO .
This is my suggestion. Do your search to get to Canyon Lake Drive or Lake Hollywood Park as shown on my attached map. Lots of parking at the park and open space for lots of shots of all types. You can also go a bit down Canyon Lake Dr and catch a dirt trail for about 1/2 mile to get a more special view. You will see people on the top of trail and can decide if you want to do that or not. Please like my post if you found this helpful. Cheers.

We take picture so close, but surrounding HOLLYWOOD is under construction and need maintenance, located in between houses.

Iconic sign representing the glamour and history of the movie making capital of the world. The Hollywood Sign can be seen from many vantage points all over Hollywood. However, a unique way to experience it is to make the 4.5 mile out and back hike along Innsdale Trail and Mt Lee Drive. The trailhead is at the end of a street in a residential neighborhood. Very limited parking but I was able to find a spot along the curb when arriving on a weekday in March at 930am. The hike begins as an unpaved trail and passes by the so-called "Last House on Mulholland" which provides the closest viewpoint of the sign for a great photo. Afterward, the trail becomes paved along Mt Lee Drive but becomes moderately steep, but it is only mildly strenuous. Views of the mountains and of LA and Hollywood below are terrific all along the route. The trail ends at the summit of Mt Lee where you are perched behind the sign. This is normally an extremely popular hike nut I was the only one at the summit for about 10 minutes which made it really special. As I hiked down, I passed many people including large tour groups headed up to the sign who got a later start. The lesson is to arrive early for both parking and to have few others on the trail.

It was a nice chance to visit Hollywood sign from such close place such as I was it looks huge from the pictures

Park along the street (where it’s legal- they WILL ticket if you park where it says no parking and LA tickets are very expensive (over 100 in some cases). Park where you can then hike up to one of the clearings. Great photo op and a pleasant hike but use the trail beside the road cars were moving fairly quick. It’s uphill but not terrible and worth the effort. Nice view (but the views are better from other places like Griffith observatory). Great keepsake photos! It’s only takes about an hour- tops -but it is worth doing! Don’t pay for a tour unless they will drop you off at a great vantage point. You can do it self guided. It’s a quick stop no visit to la should skip! Free parking along the road but spots are hard to find on weekends. If you can go during the week it will be easier. There are several places where the green fencing is not blocking the view and these are great for photos. You really can’t touch the sign but it feels pretty close from the neighborhood below the sign.

I got some pics of the Hollywood Sign from the Griffith Observatory, but I got closer shots of the sign from Lake Hollywood Park. Sammy, my tour guide from the Hollywood City Bus Tours, said that there was a spot that you can go to if you wanted to take closer pics of the sign. He said that tour buses were not allowed to go to this spot, only smaller vehicles like cars, vans, etc. He never mentioned by name where this spot was, but I'm guessing that Lake Hollywood Park had to be the area he was talking about. It's a great place to go if you want to get the closest shots of the Hollywood Sign. Fantastic!

Hollywwod Sign is a landmark located in Los Angeles, if you come to Los Angeles it’s a must see place.

Going to see the Hollywood sign was on my husband’s bucket list. We could have taken a rideshare to it but it was too costly from where our hotel was at. Everyone we talked to said that it was problematic to get close to it. Consequently, we decided to check it out as a part of a tour. Yes, we did see it, but it was at quite a distance. We got pictures and my husband was satisfied. It is more easily gotten to if you go to the observatory. We took a seven hour tour and it was one of the places that we saw. It was OK, but I thought it was a bit of a letdown.

Been there many times, in August went again, my cousin came from Germany and want to see
This, I like to go there, very nice, big problem is, no parking, I got 79$ parking ticket

YES, the hike is worth it to the #hollywood sign! And YES we hiked 🏔 it’s grueling 7.5 miles total from the #griffithobservatory to the sign and then all the back down Beachwood Drive .....it was exhausting 🥵! It was scary 😱and steep in some points...but we are thrilled and feeling accomplished that we did it!!!
If you aren't physically fit be prepared its rigorous in some spots. Be sure to bring hydration, wear proper foot wear and map out the trail you want beforehand (we learned from that mistake LOL)

Hiked up to Hollywood sign and behind
Great moderate hiking trail , gets steep in a few spots , great dirt trail , also paved the higher u hike

Its a long walk for little kids and a tired mom. The older kids and adults walked it and enjoyed it. We hung out ate a snack .

I think no visit to LA is complete without a closeup view of the hollywood sign, even it it's just a sign. Best place to get up close without hiking is lake Hollywood Park. You can also get up close and go for a nice scenic hike from Griffith Observatory.

Not sure if Google Maps took us to the best and closest viewing point.
With our eyes we could see the sign but hard fir the camera to see well.
Parking was US $10 for 1 hour.
In hindsight we could have jyst parked up for 5 minutes jyst before the car oark, taken our photos and moved on and away!

Set high in the hills on the southern slope of Mount Lee. The sign is a massive 14 x 110 meters.
You can trek up to the top which will take a good few hours. There are plenty of photo opportunities on the way up but once you get to the top you can only access the back of the sign.
Alternatively, you can park up and take in the sign and view from below.
Make sure you wear a hat and take lots of water as it gets really hot.
So touristy yet it never gets old!
This was my 3rd time in LA and I made it a point to getting an up-close-and-personal photo with the sign this trip. Best place to have the shot (without hiking) would be at Lake Hollywood. You can either drive up or catch an Uber or a Lyft (but u may want to hang on to your driver while you take those shots as it may be difficult to get another rider back).
Important: Obey and respect the rules about where to park and stop your car. The residents and park patrol are quite sticky about this.
