Incredible Tour!

By KCarlson |

Incredible tour! Jeff and Amanda are both excellent speakers and did a fantastic job describing the Alaskan husky and what it's like to race the Iditarod with these magnificent animals. Holding puppies was just icing on the cake! This is a MUST DO tour!

Well done

By Y1834KBchrisj |

Bus picks you up on time at designated spots near Denali for a quick ride to the property. Very nice facilities that protect visitors from the sun or rain both inside and outside. The dogs are obviously spoiled rotten and are very well taken care of. Getting to hold the puppies was awesome. Jeff King is informative and funny at the same time. He is the real deal. They have a separate session the second half for the kids to have puppy time with the handlers if they don’t want to sit through the presentation. Thoroughly enjoyed the visit and afternoon!

Not Alaska tour is complete without a visit to Husky Homestead!

By Isabel D |

Even though there was no snow, it was an amazing experience to interact with the huskies and its trainers, especially to meet Jeff King ( 4 times winner of the Iditarod Race and Yukon Race and others!) He gives you a really good inside of what it takes to raise and train this dogs to what is considered the official sport of Alaska, "Dog Mushing" And what takes to compete on this sport that is considered to be the hardest sport in the world. Definitely Enjoy every aspect of this tour.

Our favorite Alaskan experience! Don't miss this!

By JStone |

Awesome experience at Husky Homestead! From the moment we arrived we were greeted enthusiastically and then we got to meet/hold the adorable puppies! Great educational session on training true Alaskan sled dogs and seeing them get ready to run. Then being treated to speaking session by Jeff King, legend in the sport, was really entertaining! Out of two weeks in Alaska, by far our favorite experience!

REALLY FUN; REALLY EDUCATIONAL

By Suzanne H |

We loved this experience. I was so happy to watch excited dogs obviously love their owners, then prance and dance until they were able to pull the practice sled. I think I always felt that sled dogs were mistreated, but now I have completely changed my mind. Modern mushing is about taking care of the dogs who love what they do. The staff gave us a great tour, entertained us, and educated us with grace and humor.

Diamond in Denali!

By jerry w |

When you think of Alaska, you think of snow-capped mountains, whales, Moose, and the culture of the Athabascans. When you are exploring this MAJESTIC state and find a true hidden diamond, it makes the trip a once-in-a-lifetime one. I knew nothing about the Iditarod or the sled dogs. After spending the best 1 1/2 hours of the 10 day trip with Mr. Jeff King, his team, and the dogs, I not only learned about the amazing dogs that pull a 600 lb sled + 165 lb man 1049 miles in the dead of an Alaskan winter, but I also learned more about the Athabaskan culture and their 500+ year old mode of transportation. The dogs are amazing, and Jeff King, an Iditarod 4 time champion, is a hoot! I would HIGHLY recommend visiting Husky Homestead and seeing this diamond for yourself. You will not regret it!

BEST TOUR EVER!

By Nikki P |

Going to the Husky Homestead and learning about Alaskan Husky's was the only thing I really wanted to do in Alaska......and Husky Homestead did NOT DISSAPOINT!! This adventure was one of a kind and absolutely amazing!! From the moment you get out of the car you are immersed into all things Husky! We were handed a 10 DAY old Husky puppy which still had that sweet puppy smell! The rest of the tour included watching the pack get hooked up to a 4-wheeler and pull Jeff around the kennel. The entire experience so fantastic and I will be back the next time we visit Alaska. Jeff is a great American and I am so proud to have gotten to meet him.

Holding future Iditarod winners

By Janet F |

The best!!! You check in and they hand you an adorable husky puppy!!! And you fall in love. Jeff King gives a terrific chat about the Iditarod and racing ( he should know since he’s won it 4 times). It fun / it’s really interesting / and those puppies!

This is a DO NOT MISS Alaskan experience. Jmho.

By Alaska4life |

If you want a GENUINE Alaskan experience, listening to a true Alaskan legend, do NOT miss this tour. We left feeling like we got infinity more than we ever expected. The longest, BEST “Ted” talk, but it was Jeff King doing the storytelling, and we sat there listening, for all we were worth. When my chance came to “ask a question”, you can get I had one waiting, and loved his response. Fingers crossed he will be back again, but you never know for sure. Honest answer.

I’m one of those lifelong Alaskans that tends to find my own fun, with my fella, and adult kids, but when I reserved our creekside cabin, for five nights, I figured we ought to do more, than just the park shuttle. My sister and I are longtime Iditarod fans, and spending time at Jeff King’s dog kennel, seemed ideal, but we doubted we’d even see him. I had no idea the tour details, beyond holding the summer puppies. I’m not going to spoil your surprise, if you go, but hearing stories of the Iditarod, straight from Jeff King, was something we’ll not forget soon. This Denali getaway was mostly about us finding fun outdoors, relaxing and the two “events” I picked, were the perfect ones for us.

Seeing Amanda helping with the dogs was great too, cause we were rooting for this rookie last spring. The other young man helping, sad I forgot his name, was wonderful too, and a right decent storyteller himself! We had no idea what to expect, and I won’t share exactly what the tour entails, only that it is worth every penny, and more. Jmho, as a gal that has knuckle bumped so many legends, over the life of the Iditarod, and looks forward to this race every year. If I do Denali again, it will be the same plan…..McKinley Creekside cabin, Denali green bus shuttle and def, Husky Homestead tour! Cheers to our winter #60 ahead, me and my sister are ready!

Outstanding Kennel

By WisconsinDogLover |

Husky Homestead is a top notch experience. The staff bends over backwards to help you and the information is incredible. Jeff has created some amazing tools to train to notch dogs and it is also a great to hear about his experiences. Oh, and don't forget the puppies! If you are ever in Alaska, stop in to this place.

A touching experience

By Pennye R |

Our visit to the Husky Homestead was quite by accident when our trip into Denali was cut short by the landslide. What a wonderful bit of luck! This visit was one of the highlights if my visit to Alaska. Jeff was an excellent host and presenter. His presentation touched me; you can hear an d feel the passion he has for his statement his sport, and, most importantly, his beloved dogs! I enjoyed meeting the dogs and, especially, the pups! I was very impressed by the set up and the training facilities. I would urge everyone who visits Alaska to add this event. I’m certainly glad I did!

A most memorable Alaskan experience

By nes24 |

This was one of the highlights on my and my husband's Alaskan trip (we liked this better than the Denali bus tour). Holding 10 week old puppies on arrival (tip - get there 10-15 minutes early) was such a joy. Followed up by a well organized, informative presentation of the dogs running in formation and a play by play of the Iditarod by Jeff was phenomenal, and hilarious. The whole experience takes about an hour and a half and is well worth the cost. Do it!

Best visit

By jddross |

One of the best attractions in Denali. If you love dogs it’s a must visit . Jeff and his team do a great job.we appreciated the information shared about the races and what it takes to prepare and train the dogs to compete

Wonderful!

By Karen |

Excellent! You could see the dogs were well cared for and loved. We learned about how the dogs and humans train for racing and how the races are run. Informative and interesting.

Very good experience

By krislee4 |

The demonstration was a nice, unexpected addition to another tour. Jeff was informative in a fun way and makes us want to come back for the Iditarod

What a great place to visit!

By Carmella M |

This wound up being a better experience than I expected! I had no idea what all went into dog mushing. I really enjoyed the demonstrations. The dogs were so excited, and you can tell how much they enjoy what they do. Great facility and very informative... The crew was very entertaining!

Bucket list

By voreyecare |

Very informative and enjoyable. Recommended by best friend and indeed it was everything he said it was. thank you.

Their training, care, and preparation fo the Iditarod.

By Grace L |

It was a wonderful experience and very educational. I watched as they trained the dogs, cared for them, and realized that dogs are also susceptible to Covid. My mask was required to protect them as well as those who cared for the dogs. It was interesting when shown all of the preparations for the Iditarod.

It's about a lot more than dogs

By GARYAMOS_13 |

The enthusiasm of the presenters was contagious. I had always thought of dog sled racing as kind of a joke but came away convinced it was a serious, arduous and fun sport.

Fabulous Husky Homestead tour

By Karen B |

This tour was wonderful! We got to hold a husky puppy and learned all about the animals! The lecture about these Iditarod athletes and their mushers was fascinating!! Highly recommend for families and anyone interested in these amazing animals and the people who love and take care of them!!

Wife and daughter visited the Husky Homestead. They had a blast and especially enjoyed playing with the Husky puppies.

Highly Recommend this one!

By Pat E |

We went on this excursion as part of a package for our Land & Sea Tour.
It was fantastic! Holding the puppies was just great! Then, we learned so much about the dogs and the mushers! It was so interesting and we took home some great souvenirs.
This is a great excursion for anyone who likes dogs or is interested in learning about dog sledding.

Informative but offensive language

By 3sACharmAdventures |

We enjoyed holding the puppies...this was a brief part of the tour. Very informative and interesting to learn about the Iditarod and all that is involved. However, Jeff King’s use of crude humor and language took away from the experience for us. Would not recommend bringing children to this tour.

So Educational / Fun!

By Mary S |

This was a great way to learn about Sled Dogs and the Iditarod Race. Got to hold 3 week old puppies, learn how their raised and trained. So very interesting!

HUSKY HOMESTEAD SLED DOGS

Playing with puppies, understanding they are raised and Alex did an amazing job describing being raised in the area as well as actually taking part in an Iditarod race. Phenomenal!

Very informative and entertaining event. The puppies are icing on the cake. Highly recommended addition to any trip.

Kids loved it

By VikasShivhare |

One of the best tour which we took in Denali. Kids enjoyed playing with dogs. We attended the presentation however kids were with the puppies all the time.

Puppy heaven for kids

By Lara B |

Without hesitation, this was one of the highlights of our Alaskan trip - from start to finish. Our driver Nathan was awesome and provided a lot of information in an enthusiastic way. You are greeted at the homestead with puppies and our highlight was after the initial information session our children (ages 10 & 8) were whisked away to the puppy playground - where they got to play with puppies during the second information session about the Iditarod. The entire staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and you could tell how much they loved the dogs. An amazing experience that we will always remember!

A MUST tour

By Teri W |

I live in Alaska and this tour is a must for my visitors. I have been here lots and each time me and my guests LOVE the experience. It is entertaining and very informative. Of course the best part is upon arrival we all get to hold and love on puppies!❤️🐾

A great time!

By texchef2 |

The puppies, the sled dog info, the presentations all were wonderful. Little touches like blankets for outside. Very hands on and very fun! Learned a lot!

Howling for Huskies

We had an amazing morning holding puppies, learning about a Alaskan huskies, and the Iditarod. Iditarod champions and trainers shared their passionate stories and information about how they prepare themselves and their team for the extreme trail and weather. A must see!

Husky Homestead in Denali Park - An Absolute Must

By Craig B |

The Husky Homestead in Denali Park is an absolute must for any visit to the Denali region of Alaska. More than a tour, it is an immersive experience that provides a genuine look into the lives of a champion musher and team.

Upon arrival, a visitor is greeted with the undeniable energy and excitement of dozens of incredible Alaskan huskies. After an introduction by four-time Iditarod champion Jeff King and Amanda Otto (who placed eighth in the 2024 Iditarod and second in the 2023 Yukon Quest), there is a demonstration of an entire team running on an ingenious treadmill. A person gains a great appreciation for their athleticism and the bond they share with their mushers. Moving inside, visitors receive a captivating presentation from Mr. King that provides an authoritative look at the gear, the training, and the day-to-day life of these incredible athletes. Far from a simple recitation of facts, it is personal, funny, and inspiring anecdotes that bring the grueling 1,000-mile race to life.

The entire staff is passionate & knowledgeable and their love for the dogs is infectious. In all, a visit is a perfect blend of education, fun, and pure Alaskan charm. It is a celebration of the Alaskan spirit.

Visit to Husky Homestead

By Jim M |

It was great! Jeff King is so entertaining and knowledgeable it far exceeded our expectations. He really took the time to make sure everyone had some one on one time with him too.

One of the top highlights of my whole trip to Alaska!

By milril44 |

PROS: You get off the bus and you are handed a puppy! That is awesome. They have you sit and watch a demonstration of the dogs in action while they tell you about the sport, which is fun and informative, while they take an adult husky through the crowd so everyone can pet him/her. They bring you indoors for a presentation and a short film. Sean was our tour driver and gave the indoor presentation. He was hilarious and informative and we highly recommend him. Then you're given 15 minutes for shopping and/or to watch the puppies in their pen before the bus leaves.

CONS: You barely get 5 minutes to hold a puppy! It's just not enough time!!! During that five minutes, we were asked three times if we had our picture taken (they're doing their job and that's how they make money, $15 to purchase your photo).

Note: The entrance to the homestead is at the end of an airplane runway, which they only mentioned after two small planes buzzed us when we arrived. It was startling! We're talking close enough to see the rivets in the underbelly!

The entire experience was amazing.

By Tristan B |

When they say you will be greeted with puppies upon arrival, they are not joking! The entire experience was amazing.

Awesome visit!

By Mike from Maine |

Very worthwhile. Loved snuggling puppies. Thoroughly enjoyed discussion of mushing. It’s all about the dogs and keeping them happy.

Absolutely fun.

By Curlyotis |

We loved seeing the dogs in action. The puppies are so adorable, it was awesome. All the staff are friendly and engaging. Thank you.

Puppies!

By DebbieK99 |

Our family was staying at the nearby Denali Cabins so the trip to the Homestead was short & simple. Everyone really enjoyed meeting the puppies (and didn't want to give them back!) and hearing the stories of training and competing. Our family wishes we had more time with the puppies, but other than that enjoyed our visit.

Highlight of our trip to Alaska

By Kimberly J |

Highly recommend this tour to anyone who loves dogs and wants to learn more about the sport of mushing. It was very informative, funny and enjoyable. Holding the puppies was awesome and everyone had huge smiles! Very well-run tour, organized and professional. Our college students said it was one of the best things we've ever done. Suitable for all ages. We have a real appreciation for the sport of mushing after our visit.

Happiness at Husky Homestead

By Emily C |

Visiting Husky Homestead was a highlight of my trip. I loved that the first part of the tour included getting to hold adorable sled dog puppies! The handlers and staff at Husky Homestead were so welcoming and friendly. Jeff King and Amanda Otto were fantastic speakers. I really enjoyed Jeff King's presentation. It was neat hearing stories from the trail of an Iditarod legend. The speech was very engaging for both the new fan and the longtime mushing fan alike. He was really funny too. At the end, Jeff gladly signed merchandise for my sister, me, and other guests. He was very kind to us all. It was a great experience, and I'll be eager for another visit to Husky Homestead in the future.

Husky Homestead is awesome!

By Regina R |

What an amazing visit to Husky Homestead! The passion they have for their dogs and the sport of sled dog racing is palpable. Jeff is an animated and engaging presenter as is his daughter. Highly recommend.

So fun!

By Madison Drake |

Husky Homestead is a great way to learn more about sled dogs and learn more about the Iditarod. Worth every penny!

Great presentation !

By Karen B. |

We thorougly enjoyed this tour! It was so interesting to hear about a dog's life at the homestead and how they are trained from the time they are puppies. We loved watching a team of dogs practice on their "mushing treadmill." Our guide, Sean, did an excellent job of explaining all that goes into training the dogs and what it's like to participate in the Iditarod. He had a great sense of humor, which made the presentation all the more enjoyable. And of course, one of the best parts of the tour was getting to hold those adorable puppies!

Don't miss these huskies in Denali!

By Cory Ohmert |

Jeff and his crew were so informative and great sense of humor. They literally hand you a puppy when you get there! They put on a great show with the huskies demonstrating what they can do and you get to pet one. Could have stayed for hours learning more about them and hearing about Jeff's races. Fun for the whole family, young and old!

Don’t Miss Husky Homestead

By Roby W |

You MUST see this tour if you’re in the Denali vicinity. I was skeptical, but was surprised at how informative and entertaining it was. Jeff King is a hoot!

Lots of Fun and Very Entertaining

By Virginia L |

Our family of 5 (3 college age daughters) had a terrific time on this tour. It was fun to hold the puppies (and after the tour we were able to play with them a bit more) and Jeff and Amanda did a great job of explaining how dog sledding works. Along with this, we learned a lot about Alaska and what it is like to live there. I bought Jeff's book and it is a very entertaining read. Jeff is a fine educator who is able to make what he is teaching you very interesting and fun. Don't miss this!

Excellent experience!

By cbwaple59 |

This was amazing! Not only do you get to cudle adorable little puppies, but you also learn alot about what it takes to be a musher and run the Iditarod ! The whole staff was entertaing and taught you so much about the science behind mushing! Absolutely worth it!

A must-do while in Denali

By AussieBonz |

This is an incredible short tour (only 90 mins) while in Denali. I wish it was longer to be honest. I learned so much about sled dogs, mushing, and what it’s like to compete in the Iditarod. As an animal lover, I was pleased to learn that the dogs are respected, treated well and cared for well. Jeff and his staff were lovely, and Jeff gave a great presentation that was awe-inspiring and also entertaining. I have profound respect and admiration for competitors in the Iditarod and plan on coming back to AK in March some time soon to watch the start of the race. As a bonus, we got to cuddle puppies!

A fun excursion!

By ak_mrm |

We did this afternoon excursion as a family--ages 68 to 2 months. We all really enjoyed playing with the puppies and learning about sled dogs and the Iditarod. It was playful and informative.

A new experience

By Céline E |

Shawn picked us up at the hotel and drove us to the Husky Homestead.
When we arrived, we could hold and pet the adorable puppies. It was very interesting, to listen how the huskies are trained and how they grow up. Also we liked the amazing talk about the mushers and races very much! Thank you for this great excursion!

Great experience overall!

By Elaine S |

My entire family loved getting to hold the Husky puppies on arrival to this tour. They gave us wonderful information about how the dogs are raised and trained. Then the adults were treated to a very lively demonstration/talk about the Iditarod while the kids ages 12 and under got more time with the puppies. It was a bit overpriced but a great experience overall!

Fantastic learning experience with puppies

By Smiley0324 |

We arrived with our tour group of 28 and were greeted warmly by the staff and puppies. Enjoyed the story of the dogs and how they become champion dog sled winners. We also heard from one of the drivers on her passion and what it takes to run the dog team and sled from Anchorage to Nome...I arrived not thinking this would be something I would enjoy but I was wrong. The passion the staff have for the dogs and how they train to become dog sled champions was amazing. Highly recommend especially if you love dogs. Thanks again for a great visit.

Great Addition to Denali Park Visit

By Brittany S |

My visit to Jeff King's Husky Homestead was a wonderful addition to my Denali Park visit!! The Husky Homestead team was communicative about the start time for the event and instructions on how to get to the property.

Upon arrival, I got to snuggle with an adorable husky puppy for a few minutes. The puppies were then collected and the group was seated for the "outdoor" part of the presentation. We got to see the dogs in action and learn more about their training. The group then moved inside (no dogs) for Jeff's presentation on life in Alaska and his experiences with the Iditarod race. Jeff's presentation was informative and entertaining.

Husky Homestead is located close to the park entrance and accessible via car. It offered a different view on Alaska and a non-hiking experience at Denali. Would highly recommend!

Alaska cruise and land tour

By Lewisj03 |

This Husky Homestead tour is amazing! So worth the money and time. It was the most reasonably price dog sled camp tour I’d seen on this trip. I learned so much. Don’t forget to buy the book Cold Hands Warm Heart, Jeff Fisher! Great book that is very well written and a must read for all dog lovers.

A Nice Experience

By Eric R |

Jeff King and his staff provided a really nice experience. We saw the dogs in action and got to hold some puppies. Jeff King put on a great lecture presentation that gave good insight into his career and associated themes. Would definitely recommend. Not an activity that will break the bank either.

2019 Iditarod

By Gary M |

Watched the 2019 official start of Iditarod! We always cheer Jeff King and his beautiful team. We even met Jeff at his ranch in 2018 and in Anchorage in 2019 days before the start. We petted his lead dog but we can not remember that dogs name...can anyone help us?

Great Experience

By Stephanie M |

This was a fun tour during our trip to Denali. I learned so many things about the Iditarod race, Jeff King was super interesting and fun to listen to. His staff is very friendly and answered any questions we had after the presentation. And we got to hold puppies! Glad we signed up for this tour, it was worth our time.

Puppy Love

By AK Happy |

Staff was very informative. Lots of great interaction with the dogs and people. Learned a lot about the sport and upbringing of the dogs. Would highly recommend.

Loved it

By docJanet |

Adorable pups( We had to share them.) Jeff King is very informative and entertaining! loved this tour.

Vacation is going to the dogs

By Donna R |

We enjoyed our visit at Husky Homestead. Learned a lot about the dogs and the race itself. Great program. Loved being able to interract with the pups.

Jeff and his staff do an excellent job in recreating the Iditarod experience.

Puppies! Highly recommend tour

By Becca D |

The puppies are so cute! We got to hold three week old pups and pet 14 week old pups too. Jeff King demonstrated how to hook up a dog team to an ATV and the team ran around the the area then onto a treadmill and Amanda takes about their gate and when they look for in a sled dog.

You can tell that these dogs are treated well, they are affectionate and love getting an ear scratch from Jeff or Amanda.

Jeff’s presentation talked about how to prepare a a sled dog team for a race such as the Iditarod and all the activities that are needed during the race. He really emphasized the care of the dogs - the human is just along for the ride (and to take care of the dogs).

The best part was the last 20 minutes or so at the end where we could ask questions and talked to Amanda about raising the puppies, training the dogs, and all the similarities and differences between them and pet dogs.

Would love to have seen more about a day in the life of a dog getting trained at Husky Homestead.

All in all a really great way to spend an hour and a half!

Tip: They are not doing hotel pickups for 2021, so if you don’t have a rental car be sure to contact your hotel in advance for transportation.

Awesome tour! Well worth the visit.

By Connie R |

We decided to go on this tour and we were not disappointed. Seeing the dogs in their environment and seeing them in their element and hearing about the Iditarod experience left us in awe! Thanks for a great tour. We highly recommend this tour while visiting Denali!

I didn’t want to leave

By Amber J |

Right when I got out of my truck (I drove myself) I was handed a puppy. Teeny tiny puppy. (Summer is puppy season for sled dogs). You can tell the dogs are well cared for and all the employees are super knowledgeable. Jeff King is on site and he’s a cool guy to chat with. Alaskan celebrity. Iditarod royalty.
His protege Amanda Otto works there as well. It was fun to meet her and hear her stories of dog mushing.

A great adventure

By Lodi Dave |

Jeff king and his dogs are amazing. He put on a fantastic show. Very thorough, very friendly and very funny. If I could give him 10 stars, but this trip Advisor We'll only allow me to give him five stars. I would highly recommend it great for family or couples.

So glad we did this!

By Mom of 8 |

There are many sled dog experiences in Alaska. This one is worth it! We held puppies which is always a good thing. The presentation by the staff and Amanda Otto- herself an Iditarod racer was outstanding. So interesting and informative! We also had a question/answer time with Jeff King.

One of the highlights of our trip!

By Compass661592 |

Nothing better than getting a puppy put in your arms when you get off the bus at Husky Homestead! Our group really enjoyed our visit and we learned so much about dogsledding and the Iditarod. Great staff. Would highly recommend.

Hurrah for the Husky Homestead!

By aburke20 |

I was part of a group that made the hajj to Jeff King's Husky Homestead. I knew nothing about Mr. King, and only slightly more about sled dog racing. In the next hour and a half we were introduced to charming puppies and witnessed an engaging demonstration of the pulling power of well trained dogs. But the highlight of the tour was a compelling presentation by four-time Iditarod champion Jeff King. He is a raconteur of the first water--funny, educational, articulate, and gracious. Although some of the speech is clearly memorized, a surprising amount is spontaneous. Mr. King also has the rare gift of playing off the crowd like a master entertainer. The serious side is his obvious devotion and respect for his dogs, the ones he owns currently and the long tail of all the dogs that have populated Husky Homestead, some of which have dragged him to victory after victory in very challenging long distance races.

This is the best dog-related thing I did in Alaska

By Bruce A |

I spent 11 days in Alaska, visited 3 different sled dog related attractions, and this was far and away the best one. There are some things you can see at all of the big touristy dog kennels: dogs barking, cute puppies, dogs pulling things, etc. The one thing you can see only here is Jeff King, who in addition to having won the Iditarod four times is an extremely entertaining and informative host who does most of the tour himself. Both he and his staff (some of whom also do sled dog racing) stuck around well afterwards to take questions and sign autographs.

AMAZING

By Sherrie D |

The husky homestead is a MUST see in Denali! It is perfect for all ages and Jeff is funny and interesting! Absolutely loved our experience!

If you don't have anything good to say, then don't say anything

By Susan P |

This place left me with a high level of concern for the animals and the staff's honesty. It was just my feeling and the others in our group thought everything was just fine. The kids seemed to really enjoy holding the puppies.

Iditarod Facts, Fun and Puppies!

By PrMichaelM |

We had a great time at Husky Homestead! The second half of the presentation was a bit cheesy but informative. The first half was great. Seeing the dogs interact and get all excited was fun but the highlight without a doubt was the puppies! Fun, Iditarod facts and stories and puppies!

Puppies

By Vince P |

Very entertaining and so much fun holding puppies! Knowledgeable and friendly staff. We visit every year.

Fun and educational Alaska husky dog experience

By David K |

5* experience!! Both very educational ( but not dull boring data) about the Iditarod and most importantly about the dogs!! But this experience is just pure fun!!! If they ( there were 10 young puppies when we were there) have puppies, you get to hold them and pet them and they lick your face!! Big smiles from my family!! This apparently helps socialize the dogs. Great demo of how the dog team works together on a huge treadmill!!!! Indoor talk is about the dogs and the mushers and is very interesting. We were there for 2 hours .

Do not miss this experience!

By Matthew B |

Don’t miss this if you are in Denali! It is one of the best and most fun things you can do. I was not expecting this level of information and new knowledge about the sport of dog sledding. Jeff King, his family and staff are all phenomenally knowledgeable and generous with their experiences and information. The dogs are the stars and worth every penny to see what they do and how they do it. You will come away with a new appreciation of what goes into raising dogs who can pull a sled for thousands of miles and drag a human along for the ride! I encourage everyone to come here and experience this place.

A fantastic time at Husky Homestead!!

By Kathryn L |

We had a fantastic time at the Husky Homestead! Our 10 and 7-year old loved holding puppies at the beginning of the visit, and all of us loved hearing about the sled dogs and Iditarod from Amanda Otto and the staff. Jeff King was great at answering our kids’ questions, and he told amazing stories of his time on the trail. We stayed at Jeff Kings’ cabins while visiting Husky Homestead, which we also highly suggest to other visitors. It was brand new, clean, comfortable, and the perfect spot for kids.

Puppies! ❤️🐕❤️🐕

By Margaret K |

This has been our favorite experience so far during our visit to Alaska! Jeff King is very entertaining, funny and charismatic. And the puppies are too adorable for words!

Great chance to meet some cool dogs!

We loved the tour! I went on the husky homestead tour in the morning of our last day in Denali. It was wonderful. You get to spend a few minutes with the amazing huskies early on, and learn so much about the Iditarod race and Jeff himself. Its a surreal experience and so much fun!

Puppies too cute!

By jsrd |

Jeff King, an experienced Iditarod musher raises these dogs and gives an impressive presentation on his many experiences of participating in the yearly race. Highly recommend!!

Husky Homestead

By 432colvin |

Very informative and fun! Loved watching and holding the puppies :-) disappointed that Jeff King was not there. The advertising material made me believe that he would be there and he was not, so other than that, it was very good

Worth it!

By Palmer |

Definitely exceeded my expectations. Dogs were awesome to see (and puppies to hold!) really great presentation / insight to the Iditarod. Very cool for all ages.

Husky Homestead, a must see!

By david |

Visited Husky Homestead as part of an NCL Land Tour... OMG, this is incredible, if you are visiting Denali I strongly recommend visiting. The two speakers, Jeff King and Amanda Otto are both premier mushers in the Iditarod + Yukon quest, and shared details about raising / caring for their huskies, and the preparation / participating in long distance events. They both have encyclopedic knowledge that they impart, but with style and humor at the same time. You get to see the Huskies at the kennel, and we even got to hug their new puppies! Cannot recommend more highly.

Be Sure to Visit the Husky Homestead

By Kepthe |

The dogs were adorable! The staff/volunteers were full of knowledge and eager to answer any/all questions. It was refreshing to see how cared for these dogs are. I normally feel sad when I visits animals, but this was not at all like that. They are well cared for and kept healthy and happy. The puppy circle was fun for the younger visitors as well as the adults!

Alaskan Husky experience

The dogs were so excited and the puppies so cuddly. Great demonstration and explanation of the sport.
Well worth the time....loved it!

Husky Homestead is not to be missed

By Janet H |

Loved snuggling Jeff’s pups and learned so much
about mushing. I can’t imagine a better experience in this regard. A must-do on your visit to Denali!

Just the Best

By hamhawks |

This is a must do. You will not be disappointed. The experience to see, feel and heard all about the way these beautiful animals are raised and treated is fantastic and to further hear from the man himself is something you won't forget.

Great experience

By Robin S |

My husband and I visited the Husky Homestead last week and really enjoyed our experience. Right when we got off the bus we had the opportunity to hold and pet a husky puppy. We learned so much about the dogs and what it takes to run a dog sled team. It was obvious that all the people who work there love the dogs and what they do.

A salute to Alaskan Huskies!

By jwyl |

This was the highlight of our entire Alaska trip! Educational and engaging, we got to meet Iditarod champion Jeff King and his amazing canine athletes and staff! If you enjoy dogs, be sure to check this out. We learned tons and came away impressed and inspired! Note that this is not a tour that allows you to ride.

Last minute tour add-on WORTH IT

By Michael L |

We didn’t realise we had a bunch of time in the evening to do something in the area and we quickly called this place and found a few spots left and we’re initially feeling like it would be a little bit lame for a bunch of adults traveling without kids but it turns out it was totally awesome. Tremendous insight into what it takes to compete at that level and really understand the art and the science of the logistics required to even get to the starting line. If you’re in town and you’re looking for something to do, this is the place.

Fun and informative

By Patti G |

Husky homestead has a great couple hour program geared toward education and they make it fun too! I would go again!

HUSKY HOMESTEAD ROCKS!

By Darryl H |

This was one of the highlights of our trip to Alaska! The dogs were too cute and the staff was friendly and professional. Jeff's presentation was informative and entertaining. I'm ready for the Iditarod in March!

Five stars ⭐️

By MrsB |

One of our favorite activities during our week in Alaska. The dogs were absolutely incredible. Jeff and his staff are amazing entertainers and experts. We really enjoyed holding and petting the pups and learning all about mushing. If you’re on the fence, book the tour. Highly recommended.

Wonderful time and educational!

By Katricia |

I was so happy to learn about the Iditarod and how everything is set up for this race. It was even better that we learned this from Jeff King a 4 time winner! Wonderful person. I was so happy to see how all these dogs are very well taken care of and loved! It was great being able to play with the puppies!

Fantastic Experience

By familyof4SoCal |

This was one of my favorite experiences while in Denali. The tour is well-organized and fun. I loved hearing directly from Iditarod winner Jeff King about what the race is really like and what is all involved. The dogs are amazing to watch, and I could see the love shared between the animals and all the staff. The highlight was getting to hold one of the puppies!!

Great visit!

By Nikki B |

This was a great tour! Our kids loved cuddling the puppies they handed us on arrival. I loved learning about the life of a musher during the Iditarod. Great idea to let the kids have a "puppy party" during part of the presentation. Overall, really well done!

An Absolute Alaskan "To Do"

By Pershing M |

Make sure you get Husky Homestead on your Alaskan "to do" list. Jeff King, the owner/operator, will clearly share with you the reason he has won the Iditarod four times, the love of his dogs. Your visit will bring you deeper into the world of dog-mushing, a very unique and relentless sport. You will also get to meet some future sledders, the puppies. Mr. King described his dogs as "Navy Seals." That may be an understatement. Husky Homestead is an incredible gem near Denali NP you should not miss.

Great Visit to Husky Homestead

By R7127XSjoshw |

Jeff King spent 90 minutes with us and he was terrific. The dogs are incredible and the rest of the staff was so friendly. This was the first stop on our tour and so worth it. Very cool to learn about mushing and the Iditarod. Now everyone wants to come back in March to watch the start

A 1 hr presentation of dogs to run the Iditarod & sled races with great love of the dog.

By marysJ2318CB |

In a 14 day tour of Alaska I would rate the presence action of Jeff King, owner & trainer & musher of the amazing, beautiful & ready to run Huskies! I feel in love with the place!!

My favorite activity in Alaska!

By catloverKingston_NH |

We visited the Husky Homestead while in Fairbanks and it turned out to be excellent. First of all, we were able to hold newborn puppies who were adorable, then we listened to two speakers, both interesting, informative and entertaining. Learning all about the dogs and the way they are raised and taken care of was great. There was a female speaker outside at first, I did not get her name. The male speaker inside was Shawn Underwood and he was great. Funny, kept it interesting, learned so much. Would highly recommend for all ages.

Great experience

By Gmonty |

We loved to be able to hold and pet the puppies. We learned so many interesting things about Alaskan Huskies and the Iditarod. I would recommend going. It's about an hour and a half and worth it.

Fun and educational!

By Dia |

I highly recommend the Husky Homestead tour. It was fun, entertaining and educational. The puppies are adorable!

Add this stop to your agenda.

By maria ryan |

Great fun! Did you say puppies? Yup, the puppy lovin’ was the best. Jeff was more than informative, he was entertaining. It’s worth the time and money.

Fascinating

By James K |

Informative demonstrations and discussion with hands on interaction with the dogs. Jeff King and staff explained the kind and intelligent training the dogs rec.

Fun and Educational

By kcby |

We very much enjoyed our visit to Husky Homestead. Jeff King and his crew did a great job explaining what all happens getting ready for the Iditarod, for both the musher and the dogs. Very educational and fun too.

Far more than I expected

By Coastal308239 |

Husky Homestead was a fascinating stop on our Alaskan road trip.
We wanted to see sled dogs but had no interest in the 'sled dogs pulling tourists around in summer' tour. Husky Homestead offered a different , more immersive experience. Naturally, puppies were around. Yes they are super cute and everyone wanted a photo, but after everyone had held a puppy and had taken sufficient photos, we sat down and watched a sled dog team demonstration, had a meet and greet with a couple of adult dogs and enjoyed an informative and very professional presentation about the dogs and the races in which they compete.
Iditarod champ, Jeff King, shared some stories with the group as well.
Its a definitely polished 'performance' but love of the dogs and the racing shines through the presentation. I loved every minute.

Amazing Tour

By Dixie S |

This is an amazing tour. You meet the sled dogs and learn the history of and what it is like to participate in the Iditarod. They provide great information about the dogs, and you get to hold a puppy. They also provide fascinating information about the Iditarod by the accomplished drivers. Don't miss this tour.

Great Educational Experience

By Kathleen H |

If you ever wanted to learn about mushing, this is the place. I have been to two other locations that feature sled dogs, but none of them had the breadth and scope of the Husky Homestead tour.

This tour gave me a feel for the whole experience of sled dog racing from those who have done it. We were picked up by a driver, who told us of his experiences. He has been working for Jeff King (who has won the Iditerod race several times) for three years and has raced the dogs himself.

When they begin to harness up a team, you get to see how eager these dogs are to run. In fact, in listening to Jeff talk, they want to run so badly that they won't even stop when the musher falls of the sled; they just keep going until the next checkpoint.

All in all, it was a wonderful couple of hours, and I came away with an even greater appreciation of the dogs and the mushers. Highly recommended.

GOTTA RUN!!!

By cmeg435 |

Terrific presentation! Soooo much more than we expected. Very entertaining as well as informative. Best of luck in 2022 Amanda. Jeff, you’re amazing.

Puppies as soon as you get off the bus!

By Gaye Lynn W |

Very informative, very enjoyable, well planned and entertaining!
As soon as you get off the bus you get a puppy and then the dogs give a great show. Go into building and see all the awards Jeff King has won!
I just really wanted to meet Jeff King

Puppy love

By Lisa M |

What a great tour. From holding the puppies to learning all about the hardships of the Iditarod, the Husky Homestead did not disappoint. Really great fun.

Great for all ages

By beachgirl602016 |

We had a group of 8, ranging in ages from 12 to 84. Everyone enjoyed it. Playing with the puppies was fun, but also very interesting.

Great place to visit for half day.

By Traveler102866 |

Jeff gave a kid program for my son, and he enjoyed it. While we adults sat in a warm room to learn some knowledge of sledding dogs in a fun way. This is the first time I know the different looking of huskies. So many cute dogs. I admire their dedication and enthusiasm.

Unique experience

By katelyn d |

This was an absolutely amazing experience. It was very fun and informative. Right when you arrive you are handed a puppy and they take a picture of your group and you have the option to purchase it before you leave. You then get to see some of the adult dogs put to work and then taken inside for a presentation of the Iditarod.

Incredible

By Quentin D |

Amazing! Caitlyn drove us from the Bluffs hotel and on the way told us about both her life here in Alaska as well as the history of the area and where she lives. Once there you get to meet and play with the dogs/puppies and see how they’re trained. These people are clearly so incredibly passionate about what they do and they’re very knowledgeable about the Iditarod races! Definitely recommend!

Pure Delight

By gmiker |

This is the perfect experience because you get to hold a puppy of a future race legend. We have been to Denali twice and this is a must visit spot. The dogs and handlers all love what they are doing and it shows. And then to top it off, Jeff King is such a good story teller and comic. The new treadmill for the sleds is ingenious. The puppies running in their wheel was fabulous since they were doing it on their own. We absolutely love this place and we are quite sure that you will too.

Well worth the price!

By Ardy R. |

What a top notch activity! We were picked up by a shuttle bus and taken to the site 10 mins away. Driver was super informative and friendly. As soon as we stepped out, future Iditarod puppies were put in our arms and pro pics taken!! Adorable. We learned so much in just 2 hours. Shawn was an amazing story teller/teacher. The dog demos were fabulous. And, Jeff King actually came out and spoke to us, signed souvenirs and posed with us for pics! I highly recommend this for all ages!! Kids got to have a “puppy party” to avoid boredom. A very well-run activity!

A great way to spend a morning in Denali

By Louise S |

This stop was a highlight of our Denali visit. Upon arrival, we were handed a puppy. It’s official, we were snugglers!
Jeff’s demos were informative. He is entertaining, dedicated and professional. We learned so much about the dogs and the Iditarod.
There is an opportunity to purchase souvenirs. I have enjoyed the books we purchased. Zig is a sweet story, beautifully illustrated.

Who doesn’t love puppies!

By gds559 |

Very informative tour, the staff was very welcoming and friendly. My wife and I had a great time! Especially when we got off of the van and were handed a puppy, all things are great with a puppy!

Wonderful experience!

By Dreamer761531 |

This was a “replacement” experience because the Kantishna Roadhouse wasn’t reachable due to a landslide taking out the road in Denali. I’m almost glad it happened because this was one of the highlights of my trip to Alaska! I highly recommend it if you can go.

Good Presentations

By 2skidivers |

Jeff King is a former Iditarod champion who runs the place. One of the workers at the sled dog facility picked us up and gave us a lot of info on the way to the camp. Then we got to hold some puppies but not actually play with them (and had the ceremonial picture taken for purchase). When all the tourists got there, we were seated outside for a nice presentation about how the dogs are bred and trained. Then we went inside for another presentation about racing in the Iditerod. Jeff even came out to answer questions and sign books

Puppies to pet AND learn about the Iditarod!

By david b |

Yes, you do get to pet a puppy, but it is so much more than that! We went to the late show on our first evening in Denali and this set the bar for the rest of our visit. One of the team picked us up at Denali Cabins (right at the base of the road to the homestead) and took us up to the show. You start by getting to hold and pet one of the husky puppies. They are of course very cute, and one of the key reasons people go to a husky show.

Next was a demo of hooking the dogs up to a sled, seeing them make an initial run, and then running on a custom built treadmill to show the gait / loping run that the huskies get into when going for a long run. After that the dogs took off dragging the ATV and got their run and swim for the day!

We then went inside and heard about what it takes to run a sled dog team and compete in a race like the Iditarod. We heard from Amanda and her experiences in running the various races in this area, and it was incredibly informative. We heard about how Jeff King changed the sled design to be better for races like this, what it takes to supply a team through the race, etc.

It was a very enjoyable evening, we learned a ton, and will watch for coverage of the race going forward.

For those comparing this to the dog demo in Denali National Park - there are more dogs to pet in the park, but it is up to them whether they want to be social that day. The presentation in the park is of course centered on the use of the dogs in the park, and due to the length of the presentation much more limited. If you have a few $'s to spend on this, go to Husky Homestead and get the extra information that brings a whole new depth to your view on the sled dogs and the teams that manage them!

Remarkable experience!

By Charlie and Jen... S |

My family booked this tour at the recommendation of our B&B. If you are in the Denali NP area, this experience is an absolute MUST SEE! Jeff is extremely knowledgeable and very entertaining. He and his team do an excellent job of inviting you into the world of sled dogs and mushers. It's hard to explain how excited and motivated the dogs are to do what they were created to do! You just have to go see Husky Homestead for yourself!

Puppies!!

By Marion and Larr... H |

More than just a chance to see and hold lots of cute dogs, great talks and demonstrations about raising sled dogs and the Iditarod.

You don't want to miss this!!

By Marcy F |

We absolutely loved our visit to the Husky Homestead. We began our visit by holding adorable husky puppies. Then we were able to see some of the dogs in action. I learned so much about the dogs and the sport of mushing. Melanie was terrific and very knowledgeable. Jeff King joined us at the end of our visit and answered questions as well as told stories about living in Alaska and running the Iditarod. I would highly recommend this place!!

An afternoon at Husky Homestead

By Jacqueline Parker |

There were many favorites with this excursion! Jeff was amazing....he comes alive during his presentation of his Iditarod racing experiences! He allowed us to handle the 12 week old puppies, he gave us a personal tour of his training grounds during the summer season which included a ride (with him) on the ATV with his racing dogs leading. The dogs were mesmerizing. The whole experience was unforgettable. I highly recommend visiting Husky Homestead!!!

PUPPIES!!!!

By M. T. H. |

PUPPIES!!! That should be enough, but I know it’s not. Jeff King and his staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. You can easily see how much they love the dogs. It’s also very informative, I knew a little about the Iditarod, but learned so much more about these amazing athletes (the dogs) and their wonderful mushers. Highly recommend you add this to your itinerary, a definite must see.

Dogs and puppies!

By Richard S |

This facility is amazing. The presentation and demonstrations are top notch. Very entertaining and informative. Must see.

Great experience with adorable puppies

By SandyMac1 |

We had a wonderful time at the Husky Homestead. We were handed an adorable puppy when we arrived which was the best stress reliever ever. The adult dogs were incredible and the trainers were so informative. The owner, Jeff King, came out and told us stories and answered questions. All of the staff were friendly and great with audience members of all ages. Learned a ton about the Iditarod and how the dogs and people prepare for the event. Great experience and highly recommend it!

We loved the puppies!!

By Ronald M |

We had a party of 7 consisting of a 10, 11, and 12 year old, 2 40somethings, and 2 70 year olds. We had a great time. Jeff King is a great speaker, and very entertaining. The kids loved holding the puppies. Very informative about just how much work goes into raising and training sled dogs.

Great family activity

By Melissa H |

A shuttle picked us at the lodge. It was 15 ride. Upon arrival we were greeted with puppies. The staff brings puppies to you to hold and love. After puppy love, Jeff King introduces us to his mushers. While Jeff is speaking, his staff is harnessing dogs to demonstrate. These dogs love to run After the demo, kids go to a puppy party while the grownups learn about the Iditarod. It was great excursion I highly recommend.

Loved this place!

By Cathy B |

Got to hold puppies the moment you arrive. However, another van full pulled up right before us and they got all the puppies☹️but I still had a blast. The presentation was great and funny. My husband even enjoyed it. Got to meet Jeff King got a picture with him and an autograph! I would definitely recommend this place.

Iditarod winner and dogs

By marymC3627BQ |

At Denali National Park I took a Homestead Husky excursion which my husband and I fully enjoyed. When we first arrived, we were greeted with a puppy to hold...ah! The Iditarod dogs were all there about 30 dogs (and puppies too) which all looked well taken care of and happy. The dogs were especially excited when a few were harnessed to do a sled ride for the onlookers. Jeff King, Iditarod winner and owner, explained his establishment and was very personable. Next we went inside to a building where a very informative musher explained all that is involved with mushing and the Iditarod race. There was a picture taken of us with the puppy that we were handed on our arrival and could be purchased as well as some other items- just a little commercial but not over the top. We were there about an hour and took an early tour with a small group of people. I had read that someone was on a tour and it was very crowded, so we tried to avoid a crowd with an early tour.

Run--don't walk to learn about the true athletes in the sport!

By Laura C |

Husky Homestead is very near Denali, so it was easy to get to. We ranged in age from 6 to 66, and each of us were entertained. We were greeted by and held puppies, treated to a demonstration of the dogs on a treadmill and wheel, and spoken to by Iditarod competitors and winners. The dogs were wonderful. But even better was the talk given by Jeff King about his experiences in the Iditarod. He was informative and funny. Even our six-year-old was laughing. It was a true highlight of our trip.

Fun, Adorable Puppies

By Worldtraveller362017 |

We learned a lot about the Iditarod Race, Alaskan Huskies and and got to play with the puppies. It was very interesting and enjoyable to glance into this classic aspect of Alaskan life.

Minimal dog interaction but good info

By martinigal25 |

You are handed a puppy upon arrival for just a few minutes but that is basically it as far as dog interaction. you are not allowed to touch any of the dogs or walk among them. Unable to really get close at all. they are strict about this. So if you are looking for dogs to pet and spend time with this is not the place. They were awesome at providing information and explaining the inner workings of the Iditarod and every day training. I recommend.

Got to see the puppies

By Derek |

Great staff, very knowledgeable and will answer any and all questions you my have. Highlight of the trip

Puppies and an informative evening

By Kevin H |

Very Interesting and entertaining presentation. Jeff King and his dogs are a bundle of energy and makes for an enjoyable evening. When we were there they had a new litter of 2 week old puppies they let everyone hold. The dogs just love to run.

Very informative but expensive

By Scotty M |

Recommend by a number of people in our group. I was under the impression that they hand you a puppy once your get off the bus so I was looking forward to that. Well there was a puppy for a group of six, so really not much time to hold the sleeping puppy. However, being a city slicker from the Midwest, I found it rather informative as the presenters were very good at communicating the material and inserting a few jokes. At $59 a person, its not worth it, but if you are into dogs put it on your bucket list. By the way, smile when they come around taking pictures of holding the puppy as they want $15 for a copy of it.

Jeff King does an amazing show!

By JRE |

We thoroughly enjoyed this visit. It was entertaining, informative, and all-around good fun. I highly recommend it.

One of the highlights of our time in Alaska!

By Nicole B |

I knew less-than-nothing about dog-mushing or the Iditarod. We visited Husky Homestead as a stop on a larger tour that we were a part of. All I knew was that I was going to get to hold a puppy - and I did! - and it was amazing! - but I now consider myself so fortunate to have had the opportunity to hear from Jeff King and to learn from him. It was one of the top 3 highlights of our entire trip to Alaska. Jeff King is a legend - rightly so - but he is also a passionate educator, and a master showman of a presenter! So engaging, so genuine - and also very funny. I learned so much and it was all riveting - because of Jeff. The facility itself is really impressive, and the staff are all warm and welcoming and friendly. I can't say enough good things about all of it! Do not miss it if you're in the area!

Once in a lifetime experience

By Samantha C |

It was amazing to learn about the huskies, hold puppies, and watch the adults train. We learned a lot about the Iditarod race itself and Jeff is a great raconteur! It is a must do if you are staying in this area.

such unexpected joy!

By Julia D |

We were looking for an activity on a rainy evening in Denali and decided to visit the Husky Homestead with fairly low expectations. We thought we'd enjoy seeing the puppies, of course, but we were so surprised by the whole experience. We were advised to arrive 15 minutes early to enjoy extra puppy time (which you'll want!) and we were able to hold a puppy, take pictures, and have photos taken that were available for purchase later.
After puppy time, we saw the adult dogs and got to watch some of their training activities before heading inside (to a spacious, well-ventilated room where masks were optional). Then, Jeff King told us incredible stories of his adventures, introducing us all to the treacherous sport of sled dog racing. We could have listened to him talk all day, really, but his presentation was just perfect and he answered any an all questions at the end of the presentation. This was a great activity for visitors of all ages, fitness levels, and interests, unless you hate puppies and joy.

Fun-filled, interesting introduction to these fascinating dogs

By PK6 |

Our family loved visiting the Husky Homestead. We didn't know what to expect but really enjoyed meeting the puppies and learning about the dog training. Was fascinating to see how much these dogs love training to pull sleds in the winter. The presenters were excellent story tellers. Excited to see how well they do in the 2022 Iditarod race. Highly recommend visiting this charming, fun, delightful place with the whole family.

Husky Homestead

By Flora R |

Well presented information about the huskies and mushers.
Loved holding the puppies. It was an enjoyable couple of hours.

A fun day out

By Lisa C |

The staff are wonderful and obviously love the animals. Great to see the dogs in action! They are adding more facilities with a central fire pit. Will be awesome when finished.

Come for Denali, stay for Husky Homestead!

By Gazzoo |

As a family.....pehaps like most families.....our main focus while being in Alaska was to experience wildlife, mountains and scenery we can't experience in the lower 48. About 18 months prior to our trip, some of our grandkids looked for additional things to do, and THANKFULLY found the Husky Homestead website. During our 2-3 family meetings to discuss our trip during those 18 months, our grandkids would politely ask, "When are we going to see the puppies?" So reservations were made, and boy, are we glad we made them! Start to finish, our Husky Homestead experience was absolutely WONDERFUL for adults and kids alike. The presentations were crisp, informative, humorous at times and more. The facility is clean, and questions were both encouraged and answered. Wait until you learn how they decide names for each litter of pups!
Yes, we are very happy we were able to enjoy Alaskan wildlife and mountains. Boxes checked. We are all also VERY happy to have experienced Husky Homestead....another experience we can't have in the lower 48!

OMG This Was Awesome!

By Frequent Travelers |

We arrived earlier that day on the train heading North and were looking for something to do that evening. I saw this on Trip Advisor and knew it would be interesting. WOW we were absolutely blown away by this... super fun, super informative, and super professional presentation. Met the shuttle bus at McKinley Lodge and enjoyed our very fun driver... PARTY BUS LOL! We arrived to all of the staff waiting for us with arm fulls of puppies!!! We got to play with them, hold them, and get lots of puppy kisses. Then we were given a briefing by Jeff King and his staff. We all headed inside of a beautiful presentation room/theater to watch a really great movie about sled dog racing and the mushers that have made history. Then Jeff gives an amazing, interesting, and well thought out bio of who he is, what he does, and how much he loves his staff and his dogs. He spoke for about 30 minutes after the movie and it was super interesting. After he was done he took questions. Then we were free to get autographs and check out the cool little gift shop. More dog/puppy time and back on the bus for the ride back.

MAKE TIME TO DO THIS... This was one of our favorite adventures during our 2 week trip. Jeff and his staff are real professionals who love what they do and want everyone to have fun as well. Thanks Jeff and everyone at Husky Homestead!

Husky homestead visit

Excellent. We'll run. Presenters very knowledgeable and humorous. The puppies were the icing on the cake. Well worth the visit.

Don’t Miss This Experience!

By PLEM |

Visited this place today and it was a HUGE highlight! A very up-close look at the operation including housing, breeding, training and racing. Personal talks from experienced trainers and racers, including the great Jeff King!

Have fun AND learn a thing or two!

By Mary B |

This was so much more than I ever expected. After getting to meet and hold the puppies we had a wonderful demo of the sled dogs. Then Jeff explained the process of preparing and competing. It was fascinating and I learned so much. I'm so glad we had this experience!

Great family 1/2 day excursion

By Sapna K |

We booked this after all the positive reviews, but I was skeptical that the adults would enjoy it. We were traveling as 2 families with 4 kids total, ages 15,15,12,12. The puppies were adorable and everyone loved petting and holding them. I didn't expect to learn so much about dog training and mushing and the world of Iditarod training under Jeff King. Younger kids were invited to keep playing with the puppies while Sean Underwood told an amazing story of how he became involved with the sport. Overall, it was interactive and educational, and we all learned a lot about how the puppies are groomed and trained to excel at this sport. Glad we did this.

Holding puppies -- a true highlight

By mvidro |

This was a highlight of our Alaskan trip. It began by holding puppies in the 'Puppy Homestead' compound (separated so their Moms could get a rest). Apparently, litters are named per a theme. Our batch was named for Yellowstone characters (mine was Beth--on the show, not so nice, but great as a dog). I enjoyed Jeff King's presentation, which included stories about his four Iditarod wins. (Other competitors recognize the quality of his dogs. Once, he was beaten by a team he had sold.) When a dog "retires," Jeff works to place it in a good home. Loved my visit to this unusual destination. I bought a tee-shirt from an extensive gift shop to memorialize it.

Fun for the whole family

By Jamie B |

My family (kids ages 13, 10, and 7) and I had a wonderful time at the Husky Homestead tour. We all enjoyed meeting and learning about the dogs and about the Iditarod Race. The presentation was very informative while being entertaining at the same time.

This is a MUST see!

By Chad H |

I am SO GLAD my family took in the Husky Homestead experience!!! Jeff King is a very entertaining host and took time to chat on an individual level. The adventure starts with holding Husky pups! Literally, as soon as we arrived the staff asked us to hold the 4-week old pups. Then we saw a cool dog sled demonstration. Next, we moved inside, where Jeff talked about his Iditarod experiences. I highly recommend this excursion, just a few miles away from Denali National Park.

Don’t fool yourself into thinking you’ll be playing with puppies the whole time.

By RN_Lilly |

I went into this thinking that I would be playing with puppies and interacting with the dogs. Instead, I got 90 minutes of Jeff King talking about the Iditarod. It was interesting but not worth 90 minutes of just sitting there. He threw in the fact that it annoys him when people don’t know the difference between antlers and horns. That took up about ten minutes. “Sorry Jeff, some of us are just plain city-folks.” Our interaction with the pups consisted of 10 minutes of passing around puppies prior to the Iditarod lecture and then one of the trainers walking a dog around to view and give a friendly pat-pat to. Not worth the $45/person ticket.

Not just for dog lovers!! Must Stop here!!

We were surprised by the amazing presentation here! We learned so much! Jeff King is an Iditarod champion. This is definitely worth a stop. We're not even dog lovers.

Gave us a great appreciation for the dogs and the owners

By Deb G |

My friend and I (both recently retired and in our 60s) visited Husky Homestead as part of our time near Denali National Park. We were debating between Husky Homestead versus other dog sled businesses where you get to be pulled by the dogs. We're glad we chose Husky Homestead! Jeff King was not there that evening but I can't imagine anyone giving a better presentation than the two presenters we had - Amanda Otto (Iditarod competitor in 2022 and second place finisher in the Yukon Quest 2023) and another young woman who is dedicated to the dogs but I can't remember her name. When we arrived we held some of the puppies and had photos taken. The next part was sitting outside for about 30-45 minutes, seeing the dogs, and learning about them. They are obviously bred to love nothing more than running! The third part was indoors where Amanda talked about the history of the Iditarod, showed us the equipment, and described what it's like to compete. We left with an understanding of the importance of sled dogs in Alaska and an appreciation of what it takes to raise the dogs and participate in the races. This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip!

So adorable

By mtravel22 |

To start our Driver Nathan told us his story and answered all our questions! The puppies we got to hold were the cutest and not rushed in doing so. The program and demo mush was very intriguing to see and would recommend everyone to come see the love and respect they treat these dogs with. Truly amazing

Get your puppy fix and learn about the Iditarod.

By Marilyn M |

This is a very belated review. We went to Husky Homestead on the land part of an Alaskan Cruise. I had to go since I love dogs and needed a petting fix. It was better than expected. As soon as we arrived we were able to hold the puppies. They need to be held and get used to humans as during the Iditarod they are being handled by numerous vets and are around many unfamiliar humans. It was so interesting to learn about the training and get an idea of what it is like to run the Iditarod. This was a highlight of our cruise.

Interact with the pups at the musher camp

By Kathy M |

We took this as an optional excursion offered by our land tour. I would highly recommend doing so. Each couple was handed a pup as we got off the bus. After a few minutes we sat down where we could see the adult dogs and learned more about them. Then we went inside for an informative talk by Jeff King, an Iditarod Champion. He explained some of the mechanics of the race.

Iditarod PUPPIES!

By Melissa S |

AMAZING! Worth every penny! You get to hold puppies the moment you arrive. There is staff there to take your picture (to purchase) that capture the special moment. There are two presentations- the first is to actually see the dogs in action and the second is to hear Jeff King explain what happens during the infamous Iditarod. His talk is not only informative but very entertaining and funny as well. It will be one of your BEST experiences while visiting Alaska.

Puppies!

By brandoncgoode |

We actually did this in 2017 but didn't get to do it again this month. My family and I had a blast! Learning about Sled Dogs, carrying puppies and watching the dogs in action! Everyone there was great and we enjoyed meeting Jeff King (I believe that's his name) and his daughters and learning about how they grew up! You'll really enjoy this tour.

Husky Homestead

By tommavisblair |

At first I thought how boring this will be. NOT. Great show/ Education about the dogs and the Race. Jeff did a wonderful job. Thanks!!!!

Puppy Breath and Racing Passion

By AprilJ0Y |

What an exceptional and eye-opening experience, dispelling mushing myths and providing an authentic glimpse into the grueling life of an Iditarod racer and repeat champion. We were welcomed warmly and greeted with an Alaskan husky puppy to cuddle (eyes barely open!); we also got to pet and interact with the rambunctious three month olds. Total characters and full of personality. Amanda Otto, future Iditarod champion, led the first part of the tour and was genuine, knowledgeable, and friendly. Of course, the true star of the show was Jeff King, equal parts energetic showman, gritty realist, and humble champion. His magical ability to interweave humor, story, and fact makes for an entertaining and informative tour that leaves you wanting to know even more. The good news is that he has a book out, which we promptly bought :)

Loved the dogs

By Curls808 |

We visited in late August, and we really enjoyed it. The bus driver, Mae, was great. The puppies were adorable, and the presentation was fun and really informative.

Awesome experience

By Stephanie F |

It was a lot more informational than expected, a lot of fun! The best part was getting to hold a puppy right off the bus. We were really glad we booked this last minute.

Must see!

By TampaMike |

I only went to this because my wife wanted to see the puppies. I didn't have high expectations, but I left very pleasantly surprised. The demonstrations were fun and informative, and Jeff King was hilarious!

I left with a new appreciation of mushing. The facts and stories were really great, but what surprised me most was how funny Jeff is.

If you're visiting Denali and have a little downtime, check this place out! I'm glad I did.

Great experience!

By Gary E |

Well organized. Personable staff. We learned lots about huskies and the Iditarod race. Plenty of time to interact with the puppies.

Puppies!!!

By Laura D |

We loved this place. Everyone was so knowledgeable about the whole operation. The puppies were obviously the best part so if you don’t like puppies...this your is not for you. Learned so much about the Iditarod and the athletes (dogs) in it. Cody and Alex were very great guides. Would highly recommend this for anyone interested in dog sledding and of course...the puppies!

Husky Homestead

By BobCat1985 |

This place is amazing and everything you could ever hope for! You arrive on property and are greeted by about 10 family and staff each holding 2-3 puppies which they promptly place into your arms! These are the spectacular ferrari of dogs who may one day grow into an iditarod champion and you've just cuddled this sweet dog. Excellent presentation first by family and staff at the center telling about the dogs and an outdoor demonstration of these beautiful phenomenal athletes and their care. Then inside to another presentation by iditarod champion Jeff King who gives a birdseye view into this extraordinary race, the dogs and their mushers. Q & A follows. Absolutely not to miss at Denali. Simply extraordinary!

AWESOME PLACE (especially for kids)!

By Ali K |

This place was awesome. I thought it was gonna be a place to play with a bunch of dogs but it was so much more! I learned all about Dog Sled Racing and Jeff King is an awesome guy to listen to and hear his stories. 10/10

Husky Homestead is the one MUST DO experience in the Denali NP area!

By vnmystr |

We love dogs! Choosing this tour was a no-brainer! The staff at HH was very well organized, and the presentation flowed efficiently. The innovative training equipment was very interesting- including “hamster wheels” adapted for puppies & full size dogs, and a 50 ft long treadmill for aerobic training of a harnessed team. The athletic ability of the canine athletes, and their nutrition requirements were amazing. They LOVE to run! It was incredible to hear details of equipment preparation and dog team management for the Iditarod- with first hand accounts of racing by Amanda Otto & Jeff King himself (4 time Iditarod champ). The enthusiasm of the entire staff and the dogs themselves was contagious!! Don’t miss this opportunity to support this organization in their quest for dog racing domination. It was our favorite activity during our visit to the Denali National Park area.

Glad we found this place! Puppy Lovin'

By Leniece L |

On our tour of Denali National Park there were 24 people missing from the tour that had signed up. We inquired why so many were missing and the driver said, "they discovered the sled dog puppies". Immediately our ears perked up and we inquired where can we discover the sled dog puppies?

This inquiry led us to Husky Homestead to spend some time with Jeff King and his steam. We are so glad we asked. Such an amazing experience and a great group of people doing what they love.

Stepping off the bus you are greeted with puppies! That would have scored an excellent rating on it's own, but from there the experience just kept getting better.

They take you through what it takes to run a race like the Iditarod and the training and conditioning of the dogs. These dogs were so happy to run, you could see them get excited and feel their energy as a select few got hooked up for a test run. Then as they left it was so funny because the ones that didn't get picked to go started howling like they were so sad and disappointed they didn't get picked, lol. It was adorable.

Then you move inside for a demonstration and more info about the race. All very interesting and entertaining. It is an amazing event that takes unbelievable endurance and training to finish. Jeff King even made an appearance at the end and he was very patient in answering questions and then stayed afterwards to sign books, photos, whatever you wanted.

Definitely something to make room for in your visit. It only takes about 2-2.5 hours and it is completely worth it.

Basking in the glow!

By Rita |

Our hearts were warmed by the dog cuddles and inspiring stories. Thank you for a memorable experience!

Not our favorite

By Rjcgas |

This was very informative about the Iditarod race. There was very little interaction at all with the dogs or puppies. You were allowed to hold the puppies for a couple minutes before but were given a very small timeframe window to do so. It was also quite a bit of focus on how amazing Jeff king is and the awards he has won and all of his trophies.

Second Visit - still the best

By GraceB |

Second visit - this time my sister's first visit to Denali and we made Husky Homestead our first stop from the train. Holding the puppies is a great way to start a visit. The talks in the yard and watching the dogs is educational. I was glad that Jeff King was there to talk about training the athletes - the dogs. I thought the video was great. All the staff are great and I only wish there was a little more time. If I lived closer, I would be a regular visitor.

Very Interesting and Informative

By HAPPYGIRL2012 |

This excursion was very interesting and we learned a lot about the Iditarod and how the dogs are raised and kept. Alex did an excellent job of explaining how the Iditarod works and how he was was raised and has run it himself, and we got to hold the puppies!

Cuddle with husky pups

By Anita L |

We booked this tour at the end of our Denali excursion. When you get off the bus you are handed a husky baby! They are cuddly and very docile. We held the pup and took pictures. Then we experienced a training run with experienced husky dogs and after circling the camp two times, the dogs and driver boarded the treadmill! So exciting. After the outdoor part, we went indoors where an experienced musher explained the training and the grueling trek leading up to the 1000 mile race. Great 2 hours.

A Must-Do on your Denali trip.

By Sputnik |

Entertaining, informative, fun! I got to hold a puppy and share some love. Jeff King is an excellent speaker and is very accommodating of those who express an interest in his sport and have questions.

DO NOT MISS THIS!!!!!

By Steve G |

If you do ANYTHING in this area other than visit Denali, this should be your choice. Wonderful people and puppies, and the chance to truly learn about dog sledding. We had an amazing time, and we would go back in a heartbeat.

Interesting and informative

By ctb53820 |

This was by far the best experience in Denali. We got to hold one of the puppies and watch the dogs run through some of their training. The best part was to hear first hand about the sled dogs and the race and video.

Huskies and Mr. KING

By Archie |

We booked our tour in advance. They remove the cones in front of the gates 15 min before the tour. Ours was at 6 pm so we arrived at 5:40 pm. We drive to the top of a steep hill and we are greeted with a cacophony of barks. Our first meeting is with Amanda who gets us hooked on a husky puppy. They are absolutely adorable and this is done for socializing. There are restrooms onsite. We see a demo with jeff king as Amanda explains the dog training. The dogs running on a treadmill is admirable as is the wheel. The athleticism of the dogs are amazing. We then go through Mr. King's experience with the sled dogs and the Iditarod. Its a wonderful experience.

Awesome

By Emily V |

Seeing these dogs in action was the best part! Jeff is obviously very experienced and knows everything about his dogs and racing. It was very educational to learn about what it takes to be a musher and that the dogs are the true athletes!

Educational and Fun Puppy Love

By Work2travel14 |

Husky Homestead did a great job of explaining and showing us what is involved in raising and racing sled dogs in the Iditarod. Jeff King and Amanda Otto shared their experiences. It was great to snuggle with the pups from this year’s litters.

Adorable!

By AussieGrammie |

This afternoon we spent a delightful afternoon attending the Husky Homestead Tour. Here we learned about the huskies who are breed, raised and trained for the Alaskan Iditarod race. We were able to hold puppies, pet adult dogs and learned many fun and interesting facts. This tour is very efficiently organized and a favorite of many for a good reason!

Absolutely Awesome......a MUST.

By swansons2016 |

We visited Husky Homestead in August. It was an awesome experience. There was approximately a half hour lecture outside and then the other half hour was inside. They brought out the puppies for us to hold and explained everything about the dogs. It was one of the best lectures I have ever attended. Jeff King, who has won the Iditarod several times, was there to answer our questions. Also, another person who ran the Iditarod talked to us. I wish I could give this more than five stars. I would love to go back again sometime.

Husky Homestead Review

By Jim R |

This was a great combination of experience with the dogs and their trainers as well as with Jeff King, owner and winner of the Iditarod 4 times. Very informative about how the dogs are bred, trained and cared for, how they perform on the sleds and the races. Jeff does a great job of explaining what it is like to be a musher. He does so with a great sense of humor and masterful presentation skills.

If you love puppies, you will love the time they allow you to pet and hold the puppies.

First class presentation and first class facility.

If you are interested in dogs and the Iditarod, this is a must for any visitors in Denali.

Must-see Puppy love!!

By Ruth G |

This is a MUST!! If you’re interested in dog sledding or just love dogs and puppies you have to go! We were met with puppies when we arrived, and then they’re team told us about how they train their dogs and we got to see how they run on the trail. It was a blast and so informative! We also loved hearing about Jeff’s Iditerod experiences. Highly recommend for anyone!

Loved everything about Husky Homestead!

By Lana C |

An excellent presentation!! I mean, they literally meet you at your car door with a puppy... how can it get much better?!! The entire staff was so friendly, helpful, and just loves what they do. Jeff King was so entertaining to learn from about the dogs and racing. You can tell he is so passionate about what he does and everything was just so interesting to listen to and watch! I highly recommend this to anyone at any age. It is a must in the Denali area!

Worth It For Dog Lovers!

By JCW703 |

This was a very informative and entertaining experience at the "kennel" aka homestead where Jeff King, an Iditarod winner, raises and keeps his dogs. Cody and Amanda are very entertaining, informative, and approachable and the puppies are super cute. A must do if in Denali.

An Unforgettable Experience!

By Sydney C |

I thoroughly enjoyed going to Jeff King's Husky Homestead just outside of Denali National Park on my vacation to Alaska. I got to see two litters of puppies. That was cool! They were so cute! Both the outside presentation and the inside presentation were really educational. Amanda Otto was a great speaker and said really interesting things about sled dogs. Jeff King was also a great speaker. Not only did he educate us, but he also entertained us. It was also fun to pet and meet one of the champion dogs! The tour was definitely a highlight of my trip! I would definitely do it again. I would highly recommend it if you love the Iditarod and sled dogs.

SLED. DOG. PUPPIES.

By KarstenC |

Just a great experience from beginning to end. Good for families who may need a bit of a break from outdoor adventuring in the area. I was pleasantly surprised by how engaging they make every part of this tour. You learn about the dogs, then about the history of the Iditarod and the sport/culture and what it's like to be a musher. The time absolutely flew! Good stuff from beginning to end.

First Class Operation - Don't Skip

By John M |

I was not expecting much from the visit, but I was astonished. This is an excellent experience that I will never forget from our trip to Alaska. The Alaskan Huskies were tremendous, and the puppies were adorable. It was a very informative trip in which we learned not only about the dogs but about the sleds and racing. The staff was very knowledgable and dedicated to their jobs but also committed to making sure that we had a great experience. This is a should not miss experience.

Definitely add to your Denali list!

By Susan T |

One of the absolute best things we did in Denali! Of course holding puppies (future Iditarod racers) was fun but hearing from the staff and Amanda Otto was just so inspiring on how they care for the dogs, train and execute a race. Adding seeing the Iditarod start to my bucket list!

Fun evening

By lmltraveler |

We were greeted with husky puppies and then saw a demonstration of their skill and power. Inside we had a talk about the Iditarod and sled racing that was informative and also as entertaining as a good stand up comedy routine. Fun evening

Hilarious and informative!

By Laura W |

We had a great time at Husky Homestead. First you get to hold one of the puppies (they count them to make sure you don’t run off with one 😜). Next, you see the dogs run and learn about what it is like for them. Finally, you hear Jeff King, four-time Iditarod champ, talk about the life of an Itidarod racer. It was more a stand-up comedy routine than a lecture (we were all laughing the entire time!) but was still very informative. Would recommend to anyone visiting Denali!

Love the Puppies!

By Carrie D. |

We enjoyed our trip to Husky Homestead. It was really fun to hold and snuggle the puppies and Jeff King's presentation was really interesting. I didn't know much about mushing or the Iditarod race, but he gave a really thorough presentation and demonstration. It was cool to see how the dogs are trained and cared for.

We did wish we had more time with the puppies--they were the highlight and probably would be for any animal lover! We also missed most of the presentation outside--the dogs were so wound up and barking so loudly we couldn't hear anything Jeff had to say outside. But other than those two things, we enjoyed the experience.

A MUST

By Noni53 |

Do you really understand the Ididerod? Do you understand that the sled Huskies don’t look like you think they look? Then take a few hours and visit this incredible place where they breed, raise, train, and love on the dogs daily. You will learn about some of the great winners and maybe even meet the man who won 4x and started this place. Hug on puppies, watch a demonstration, and learn. Loved it.

Expectations Exceeded

By Guide285476 |

I came in with low expectations. I’m just not a dog person and puppies are cute but I really don’t want to hold them. The tour bus of older people that was there also red flagged this as a touristy bore. BOY, WAS I WRONG! It was an amazing program for my family, 2 sons, 19 and 21. Younger child have more play time with the puppies during the informational session. Jeff King was great, but so was his entire team. We learned so much about the Iditarod and I left realizing that It was not at a dog sled site but a high level athlete training ground. I will be intently following the Iditarod in 2020 because of this experience. TRUST THE HIGH RATINGS ON THIS EXPERIENCE. I am a convert!

Left with puppy breath and knowledge!

By Briana P |

What a great stop. Starts with being handed a puppy to hold! How can you go wrong there?!? They show a demonstration of the dogs in motion, beautiful! Then Jeff shows his true passion presenting information about the sport of dog sledding! We had a wondertime!

Going to the dogs!

By Sarahlee |

Right from getting on the Husky Homestead bus the very enjoyable and informative tour had begun. Trenton, our bus driver gave a very good commentary on Jeff King, the Husky Homestead and the Iditarod and this was continued at the Kennel with a very polished, fun show from the staff especially Alex. As an Iditarod fan and having been to other kennels I can highly rate this tour as the best informative show to help understand the life of an Alaskan husky, musher and Iditarod competitor.

THIS IS A CAN'T MISS: get to REALLY know the STATE SPORT of AK!

By Dave K |

Jeff King is the REAL DEAL and 4X Iditarod CHAMPION .... and so up close and personable! There are so MANY look-alikes wanting to show you Iditarod puppies ... and nothing more. Instead, Jeff and **Amanda Otto** share personal experiences, video, and tremendous presentations sharing WHAT IT TAKES to do this race...from feeding dogs to every day disciplines working a year in advance. This is an insider's view from a 4X CHAMPION!! Jeff takes this to the highest level. Watch the dogs pull an ATV around his property at the highest of speeds! This is a MUST MAKE stop for all ages. Meet the actual dogs and pick up puppies, too! You have NO IDEA what it takes to do a 10 day race like this. You walk away with a NEW appreciation for THE sport of Alaska! Meet Amanda Otto (who is being mentored by Jeff King) who will be entering the March 2022 race! Really appreciated the HUSKY HOMESTEAD.

Don’t leave Alaska without coming here!!!

By Becki Haller |

We had an amazing time at Husky Homestead. The presentations were amazing! The entire staff is so enthusiastic, extremely informative and have an obvious passion for all of the dogs. The dogs live for the sport and challenge the mushers to a high standard of competition. This sport is what Alaska is all about! The training and determination of those who train for racing with these amazing dogs is unbelievable. What impressed us the most was the level of care and compassion these handlers/ trainers have for the dogs. They recognize and respect the dogs passion for the challenge of training and running. We were excited to meet Jeff King in person and love the improvements made since we visited there in 2015. Bonus...many, many puppies to hold.

Amazing

By Jamison B |

Was extremely cool and all of his information was amazing! The dogs were mesmerizing! With out a doubt, i would recommend to anyone!

A fascinating look at mush dog racing

By Explorer10902 |

Visiting Husky Homestead, where Huskies are raised and trained for mush racing, was one of the highlights of our 2+ vacation in Alaska. When you arrive you are greeted by staff who place a months-old husky puppy in your arms, with the goal of getting the pups accustomed to being around people. You then get a demonstration of how the dogs are trained for the races. They all seemed to love to run. The demonstration is followed by a lecture by Jeff King, and Iditarod winner, who provided some history to mushing and recounted some of his own experiences. Husky Homestead is in Denali Park, Alaska, the town where the main entrance to Denali National Park is located.

Fun and educational experience!

By Larissa C |

It was such a fun experience to get out of your car and be handed a puppy. Seeing the dogs and learning about them, and then learning about the musher experience, was fascinating. Tessa sharing her experience and her father’s experience made me want to learn more about dog mushing! Thank you so much for a wonderful experience!

A must-do when visiting Denali. Fun and educational for the whole family

By AnnArborMichigan |

Absolutely delightful experience. We held adorable 4-week-old puppies and wanted to take them home. (You can't.) Very educational and interesting to learn about dog training for the Iditarod and the race experience, as well as other long-distance dog sled events.
I highly recommend this even if you can't slip a puppy into your bag.

Puppy Love...

By Robert Frost |

The puppies are adorable, but the entire program is super educational, professional, and fun for all ages !!!

Fantastic visit. Highly recommend.

By O8022HTmichellek |

Easy to book online. Questions were answered by the Homestead quickly. Pickup from nearby hotel was on-time and driver was very friendly and knowledgeable. Jeff King runs a great show and we were luckily enough to meet the man who has won numerous Iditarod races. He and his team are very passionate about their dogs and racing and it shows. First we meet some of his puppies and had plenty of time for photos and a cuddle. Then we had a show and tell about the dogs and equipment used outside in the yard. Explaining how they train and pick dogs for the races. Then inside for a more detailed talk about the race, equipment and planning involved. This tour is excellent and was a definite highlight of my trip to Alaska. Highly recommend you meet Jeff, his staff and team of dogs. Fantastic.

19TH VISIT...AND STILL LOVE IT

By janetta243 |

I am a travel agent and I escort a group to Alaska every summer. I have done the Husky Homestead excursion 19 times and always recommend it to my clients. The Husky Homestead never disappoints. You can't beat an excursion that allows you to hold puppies as soon as you step off the bus. My husband purchased a Husky Homestead hat many years ago and Jeff King signs and dates if for him every year.

great time

By jimtrout73 |

Jeff King and his staff put on a very entertaining and informative presentation on sled dogs and mushing. One of the highlights of our trip. And of course you get to play with the puppies!

Must-do for Dog Lovers

By Carolyn S |

This was the highlight of our visit to Denali. If you like dogs, this is a must-do activity. We had to schedule our own transportation, but we used Denali Transportation Services. The program was informative and we loved snuggling the husky puppies and hearing about the Iditarod from actual mushers. Don’t miss this!

You have to check this place out

By TracL10 |

Definitely add to your list of things to do in Denali!!! It was such a fun and eye opening experience. Jeff and his team really care about the dogs and are passionate about what they do. We loved it and would definitely recommend it.

Fantastic

By mazzorkney |

A great experience. Well organised and very informative. To hear all about the Iditarod first hand from Jeff King and all the effort that goes into it, great ! Of course the puppies were cute too :)

Can't-Miss Tour in Denali

By detasseler |

Husky Homestead is alway a favorite stop whenever we are in the Denali area. The staff is so warm and welcoming, and the amount of knowledge gained during the tour is incredible. It was exciting to be greeted by a puppy upon arrival, and meeting Iditarod Champion Jeff King was a highlight. Everyone went above and beyond to make sure we had a fun afternoon. Highly recommended!

Very well done

By PreferToNotSay |

Tour was very well done!! We really enjoyed the talk and even though I attended something similar 9 years ago I still learned new things! It was awesome to hear how the sport has developed and of course awesome to see the dogs in action! Every one there was super friendly. Super organized! I got 2 emails in the days leading up to the tour with very specific driving directions. The road was very well marked so even if you lost the detailed directions, you’d still make it. They even called me the day of our tour to l check if we had questions on how to get there.

A very interesting presentation of sled dogs and the Iditarod

By Laura B |

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the Husky Homestead Tour. We were given a puppy to hold when we first arrived. Then we were seated in front of some of the dogs and kennels and enjoyed learning about the huskies. Both ladies who spoke did a great job. Then we went inside, where we learned more about the Iditarod Race and were able to ask questions. We even met Jeff King, a 4-time Iditarod champion. People of all ages will enjoy this experience. Very well done.

Puppies!

By AJ34711 |

Fun excursion...learned a lot about dog racing...the speakers were entertaining, the dog demonstrations were impressive. And we got to hold puppies!

Much better than expected

By 000CruisinSusan |

We mainly went to see and hold these adorable puppies but they are just part of this wonderful experience. The whole "show" was very entertaining as well as educational. Not what we were expecting at all and one of the highlights of this trip to Alaska. Our main reason for doing this tour was to see and hold these adorable puppies but they are just a small part of the experience. I just found the postcard from this trip and wanted to write the review. We actually travelled in 2019 but trip advisor's "when did you travel" is only allowing dates in 2020 so I've had to put January 2020

Great family experience in Denali.

By Jan F |

This was a great experience for the whole family- six adults and two grandchildren aged 10 and 12. We started out by playing with the six-week-old Husky puppies- everyone got to hold their own. Then we watched the older dogs train on sleds, hamster wheels and treadmills. Tessa, whose father has won four Iditarods and owns the facility, gave an enthusiastic and informative presentation. We had a great time!

excellent presentation

By tillch |

This was a great presentation. What can be better than being able to hold a puppy and pet other dogs. Jeff is an excellent speaker and we thoroughly enjoyed listening to him and meeting him. Definitely worth the time

Fantastic

By KIngTV1 |

Extremely informative and educational tour. You get close up to puppies upon arriving Them have an educational sessions both inside and outside. Outside has a roof covering too Well worth taking the time for this tour

Learned about the life of an Alaskan Husky race dog

By Neil |

The dogs are lovable as puppies. At a certain age they are taught to be a part of a team as they progress they are able to race. Retirement comes at about 8 years old. They live to about 16

A thoroughly enjoyable morning!

By Landon C |

My wife and I visited the Husky Homestead in the morning before we took the train on to Fairbanks. It was a fascinating experience - we learned about the incredible Alaskan Husky and the dog racing culture in Alaska from world class dog sledders. We had a great hands-on experience with the young puppies and watched training techniques of the sled dogs. We felt like we were valued customers and had plenty of time to ask questions of Jeff King, the world-class dog sled racer and owner of the Homestead. I recommend the Homestead to any visitor to Denali.

Best husky tour in Alaska

By travelguru352 |

I have been to a few other Husky sled dog tours previously, but none have been anywhere close to this one. Jeff literally had me on the edge of my seat waiting to hear what he was going to say next. I could have spent hours listening and speaking with him. Bought his book and have enjoyed reading my first book in probably 15 years lol! He got me so interested in dog racing that I have booked to return in March to watch him start the Iditarod. Book this tour, read his book and you will thank me for doing so. My kids absolutely loved playing with the puppies. All of the dogs are taken care of extremely well, and you can see how much he and his staff care about them.

Loved Husky Homestead

By ffmilton |

On a recent trip to Alaska my wife and I had the pleasure of spending a few hours at Husky Homestead. After being picked up on time by a heated shuttle we were safely transported to HH. Immediately upon exiting we were handed a puppy to hold. Every guest had puppy time before an informative presentation. We learned a lot about the training and care of sled dogs. Part two of the presentation was indoors near a warm fire. There we learned what it takes to put a successful dog team together, specially to run the Iditarod. Overall it was a great day.

If you love dogs and have kids don't miss this place

By William B |

We were able to hold a 4 week old husky and a 12 week old husky. The staff were wonderful and we were able to meet Jeff King the winner of 4 Iditarods. They showed how they train the dogs and have an informative show on preparing for the Iditarod. If you have a dog and have children try and fit this into your plans

Incredible experience!

By Thomas R |

The first thing they do as you enter is hand you a puppy. For my family that in itself was work the money. Then Jeff presented his training methods and shared remarkable experiences from the Iditarod. Overall- the entire presentation was well organized and professional. Any family would benefit from this unique experience. Where else in the world would you meet a 4 time winner of the Iditarod. Excellent family memories!!!!

Loved Every Bit!

By Wander42620234117 |

This started out as a very basic husky dog tour about mushing, raising the dogs, etc. However, it quickly turned into a much more informative session and Q&A session with Jeff King himself. We loved his personality, ability to make it interesting for the young and old alike. Definitely recommend it!

Must Do

By Heather |

It is amazing to see the dogs & of course hold a puppy. The staff do a great job of explaining how dog sled teams are put together. Very educational & well done.

Number one to see in Denali besides the mountain!

By Kam H |

Always a visit to this Husky Homestead is like another world in dog sense. Hurray to Jeff King as well as Amanda Otto for bringing real mushing life to the general public. Their open hospitality reigns, only next to the dogs! If this area of Denali, AK is on your bucket list, be sure to add this. Visits are over for the 2022 season to prepare for the upcoming winter race season. Book now for 2023!

Fun visit to Husky Homestead

By KLB |

We enjoyed meeting the staff and dogs at Husky Homestead. It was very interesting learning how the competitors race the Iditarod and raise and train the sled dogs. Puppy time could have been longer. We felt they move the tours in and out too quickly and the price of the visit was a bit high for what we experienced.

Love those puppies

By Martha S |

Step off the bus at Husky Homestead, and you are immediately holding a puppy. These dogs aren’t for sale! You are helping to socialize them for future situations that they will encounter in their sled dog racing days.
We learned how puppies are raised, how young dogs are introduced to being part of a team, what life is like for them in a race, what and how much they are fed, and observed different dog’s personalities.
The second part of the tour was indoors. We learned about racing from the mushers experience on the trail: what they do at check points, when and why a dog will be dropped, their sled and equipment.

Very fun/informative hour and a half!

By D_JOregon |

We were traveling with our adult children (18, 23) and thought this was a great stop. We learned a lot about the dogs, Iditarod, and Jeff King. Jeff's presentation was really informative! It was fun to hold the puppies for a few minutes when we first got there.

Interesting

By 25beaver |

It was an interesting visit to not only see the huskies and the new 4 week old puppies but also to sit and watch the videos provided.

Unique and fun

By SGG2U |

Well organized presentation. Warm and personable staff - very accommodating. Best tourist visit in Alaska. Informative and opportunity to meet a legend.

So badass!

By Jonesgirl97 |

Wow! Came to visit from Pennsylvania with little knowledge of sled dogs and the Iditarod and no expectation. Left with a fierce interest in learning more. Jeff, Amanda and the staff are so passionate about their dogs, accomplishments, and profession, it’s contagious.

What a badass tour!!! Kudos to them and thanks for sharing. Hope to be back in March.

Must visit Husky Homestead, a true heartfelt warming experience!!!!

By Joyce U |

The Husky Homestead tour was a true highlight in Denali. It was a pleasure to meet some of the dog teams and their professional trainers. Each of the Alaskan Huskies have their own distinctive names, personality, and tons of energy. There was a new liter of puppies which we met as well, just adorable! The history of this special place and operation was wonderful, and would recommend it to all.

Wonderful experience,

By Joy L |

I did not expect to be overwhelmed going here, came away with a totally different few. Must go, very interesting, Jeff King was very interesting, shared his experiences, great guy. Puppies are so cute and lots of cuddles. Great Trip must do

Worth it

By JTWG |

Great way to learn about the Iditarod! Very interesting to see and discuss the lives and behavior of these special dogs. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Ages 15-74 in our party and everyone liked it. A good opportunity to learn about this important part of Alaska's Heritage. Would definitely do it again. We did not feel pressure to buy anything extra, although we did purchase shirts for our dog sitters, who loved them!

Iditarod and Alaskan Huskies

By katjop |

Jeff King greeted us when we first arrived but was fighting a cold (which his grandkids shared with him... I can relate) so Amanda Otto conducting our tour. She was an amazing speaker and you can tell how much she loves her job and the animals. She had so many interesting stories to tell. We all got to hold Alaskan Husky puppies the minute we arrived. This helps with their socialization. It was fun hearing about the different personalities of the adult dogs and how they performed in races. Alaskan Huskies just love to run! We got to see how they train and learn how they select dogs for races. We ended the tour inside where the walls are filled with trophies. Jeff spoke at the end of the tour and took questions. The best souvenir of our Alaska trip was Jeff’s book Cold Hands, Warm Heart. I read it in two days!

Puppies for everyone!

By Ann H |

OK, night quite. You have to share the puppies, but there is an opportunity for everyone to get some puppy time here. Beyond that The Husky Homestead does a wonderful job of presenting just what it takes to be a sled dog and a musher. The staff is very friendly. Tristan does a great job explaining what it takes to raise sled dogs and then Alex does an amazing job of educating us on life as a musher. He was really funny and his presentation was educational in every way. I didn't want it to end. I know there are lots of sled dog camps as they are very popular up here. I have to think that this is one of the best for an all around experience. Fun, informative, and hey, you can't beat holding puppies.

Enjoyable and educational

By Mick Spilsbury |

Visiting with the dogs was great but just a short part of a very entertaining and informative presentation about the Alaskan Huskies and the challenges faced by mushers and dogs during the Iditarod. All speakers were terrific. An Alaskan highlight for us.

Fascinating

By ellywell |

We learnt so much about huskies, racing and the Iditarod. Shaughn was an excellent guide-informative and very entertaining. All the staff were great. I’m not a huge dog lover, but really enjoyed the visit and would thoroughly recommend it.

MUST SEE

By bethbL7810HX |

We’ll done ✅ such great entertainment for all ages. Interesting facts, story telling genius, welcoming staff, show and tell demos, well thought out presentations. Exceeded our expectations! You must go see this.

Amazing tour for entire family!

By Rafal S |

The tour was definitely worth every penny we spent. Jeff and his staff were super informative and entertaining. After the tour I now have an understanding what goes into the dog sled races, the amount of preparation, training, dog selection, clothes, and everything else. Jeff explained absolutely everything what goes on behind the scenes of dog sled races and he was so entertaining that I kept listening with the utmost attentiveness. That is an amazing feat, because I am an adult with ADHD and attention span of a fish. My kids and my wife really enjoyed the show and the lecture. The place has great energy. Kids loved holding the puppy too! We got pictures. Now we got there as they were about to start a 6 pm tour, but it was pure luck on our part. I definitely recommend not being like us but book yourself tour in advance. Loved it! Jeff got us convinced that we need to be in Anchorage first week of March to watch the opening of sled races. We got both of his books and delicious chocolates featuring Jeff and his dog sled team. Highly recommend!

Outstanding Tour for the Family

By Craig |

This tour is fun for all and very educational. The staff are all experienced and provide details from the birth of the dogs through their racing life and retirement. These animals are extremely well cared for and they are very happy and playful animals. Those that question the sport of sled dog racing probably don’t understand the sport or the athletes involved. These dogs are amazing and love to run...they receive daily medical checks and many checks during each race- much more care than their human counterparts who run ultra races. But the proof is seeing the dogs with their owner and caregivers- no animal will show as much true affection if they are not happy- and there is no doubt that these dogs love what they do and could not be happier. I highly recommend this tour for all, but especially for anyone who may have doubts about these athletes and their racing sport. The younger family members will also love the many puppies available to hold....and the puppies love this even more than the young visitors!

Jeff King’s Husky Homestead

By Michael F |

From the moment you roll up, this is a most outstanding experience. From holding the puppies to the outdoor demonstration and finally the entertaining and educational presentation inside!!! Just GREAT!
Iditarod Legend Jeff King, budding superstar Amanda Otto & the entire team at Husky Homestead are absolutely Top Notch!!

Heaven on earth!

By Inspiration311673 |

Loving on the sweetest puppies that is part of their sled dog racer dogs training. We then saw actual Iditarod racing team of dogs in action. We then we taught by a musher that was born and raised in AK. He took us through what racing is all about. He was entertaining to boot! Awesome and worth every penny!!!!

Fun Time With The Dogs

By Leslie S |

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Jeff presents a wonderful program that gave insight into the Iditarod race and the care of his dogs.

Nothing like PUPPY Breath!

By Nancy W |

Awesome and informative presentation about everything you ever wanted to know about sledding dogs especially the Alaskan Husky! Everyone was very friendly, funny and informative. You can tell they all love these dogs. Great way to end a 3 week trip to Alaska especially since we were missing our dog so much and got to hold the puppies.

5+ stars

By Dianne K |

This trip was one of the highlights of our Alaska/Denali adventure ! Not only was it fun playing and loving on all the puppies but WOW I learned so much about the Iditarod from Jeff Miller himself ! Wasn’t even expecting him to speak to us ! What a treat ! A definite TO DO on your Denali visit

Fun and educational

By Marina L |

Husky Homestead is a must for any visitor to Denali. Even if you are not a not a dog lover the experience is fun and educational. Well worth a visit.

Up-close look at an amazing sports training facility

By RandyBanjo |

This was one of our highlights in our 2 weeks in his amazing state. This was part educational and 100% entertaining. The Alaskan Huskies are amazing animals and we were able to see them up close in their training facility. The two narrators were outstanding. The lady will be driving a Jeff King owned team in the 2022 Iditarod. We will be following it for sure in 2022. We always appreciated the event. We feel like we were able to your a proffesional sports training facility. Well, you know, we did!

Best sleddog tour ever!

By jmrogers08 |

The friendliest and most knowledgeable staff. The dogs and their habitats were top notch. Learned more about the sport of mushing in 2 hours than I had in 20 years!

Mush yourself there!

By TallTVTravellers |

This was one of the unexpected gems of our trip to Alaska. Jeff King, who has won multiple Ididarod sled races offers a tour near Denali Park that includes meeting his dogs, learning how he raises them and prepares the dogs and himself for the 1000 mile race from southern to northern Alaska. His presentations are energetic, the demonstrations fascinating and you’ll leave learning a lot about the racing experience.

Interesting and educational

By Donna |

So one of the best things is that almost the second we got out of our car, we were handed a puppy to hold!

The dogs just want to run, run, and run some more.

Hearing about the Iditarod race was pretty cool too.

Some younger kids will get bored during the talk so you might want to take that into consideration.

Puppy Party

By robfrajr72 |

My family had a great time, great stoties, fun show, and puppies. Shawn,(Sean), was super great. All the staff was awesome.

A Must Do!

By mrscomics |

A must do if you’re near Denali. Jeff King is a legend and his staff is amazing. Interesting to learn about all things Iditarod ; dogs, history, training - from a true Alaskan champion. Beautiful dogs and great history & expertise. This is the real deal - don’t miss it.

Experience is well worth it and could be a highlight of your Denali trip!

By foodfor thought |

Great presentations for giving an inside look at the sledding business. Staff was well prepared and engaged with audience, and who doesn't like meeting puppies!

Great experience.

By gregorycslater |

My wife Catherine and I have just experienced Husty Homestead today. It was fun, entertaining and informative. Jeff King and his staff were warm and friendly and love the dogs. If you love dogs, interested in dog sledding, or have ever said the word mush, come on you know you have, you will need to make room in your vacation and check this out.

Ps: Their puppies are so adorable and cuddly to hold.

Highlight of Alaska Vacation

By Joseph Ribaudo |

Great experience. Incredibly educational. Opportunity to hold puppies and appreciate this culture and the people trying to preserve it. Jeff King and his daughter Tessa gave a great presentation. Great for kids too.

Learn about Huskies

By Bhuvana B |

Jeff was awesome person. The way he told the stories of the races showed how much he loved the dogs.
Loved the huskies. We were given puppies to play with. If you have a dog back home surely you are going to miss them.

Will be watching Jeff King results in next Ititard

By Nancy G |

Great excursion. - staff was there to make sure you enjoyed your experience. We went as couple, but would highly recommend for families as well. Will be watching Jeff King during next IIditarod

Fun! Fun! & PUPPIES!

Absolutely loved visiting Huskey Homestead! The staff was wonderful. The huskies (young & old) awesome to see.

Can't Visit Alaska without learning about Mushing

By sharw2015 |

Picked up at our Lodge by thir free shuttle, we were taken to join the afternoon tour at the Homestead. The first thing we got to do was cuddle puppies and of course no one wanted to give them up. We moved on to the adult dog area and learned about how they are treated and exercised. And then we went indoors to see the sled and learn about the actual Iditarod and other races. I wasn't particularly interested before I went, but I am very glad I did. It was fascinating.

Great time visiting with the sled dogs

By Craig J |

We had a great time seeing the sled dogs and hearing of the experiences of Jeff King, who described dogsledding. He is very entertaining and has a great sense of humor.

Funny and wonderfully informative. Cool guy & great merch!

By Goddess |

After getting off the bus we were immediately handed puppies. Try and get one because you only have a few minutes for pics before you sit down and learn how raising these animals is like. Then inside for more fun info and then you get to shop. Quick , but fun! Totally recommend this to anyone especially families with kids.

Unexpected Incredible experience!!

By Susan T |

You must experience the dogs, the presentations, and the unexpected response. I have always felt sorry for sled dogs and was conflicted about going with the family, siblings plus spouses vacation. I learned so much about the dogs, early socialization, breeding, retirement to homes, and Iditarod training and event. Iditarod winner, Jeff, gave an completely engaging, educational, and entertaining talk about the dogs, training, race selected, and race details, complete with a demonstration and video. Beautiful facility. Happy, healthy dogs

Jeff King should have his own show!

By Cyndi L |

We can't say enough about how much we enjoyed the Husky Homestead experience. Jeff King is a most talented and entertaining host and the dogs (and puppies) are fantastic. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone!

My favorite visit

By mike46402014 |

Husky Homestead was an awesome place to visit! Jeff has an amazing set up for his dogs & the puppies are so darn cute you just want to take them home with you. I would highly recommend visiting the Homestead.

So much fun!

By Alison H |

Get off the bus and hold a puppy... Immediately! It was so much fun. The bus picks you up. It's about a fifteen minute drive to the homestead. You get off and get handed a puppy. I could have gone home happy then! Then you sit and learn about the Alaskan huskies and their training. After that is a more detailed look into the life of a musher. Everyone on staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this!

Husky Homestead

By Debbie |

This place is wonderful. The information about the training and the Iditarod was fascinating. And, of course, the puppies are the cutest.

The Husky Homestead is an excellent experience.

By Daria M |

Our tour of the Husky Homestead was excellent. We held husky puppies who were 8 weeks old. An indoor presentation was given by Amanda Otto. It was very informative and excellent. So excited to meet a professional musher! Her personal experiences of mushing were remarkable. We saw an actual dog sled as she explained how it is used. We went outside to see how the adult sled dogs are trained. This portion was narrated and also very informative. We were in Alaska for 2 weeks and the Husky Homestead was a favorite stop on the trip. It’s a top-notch operation! Thank you to Amanda & The Husky Homestead.

Worth it!

By Merideth K |

This was a great and affordable experience. You get to interact with puppies and learn about the Iditarod from the musher himself. It is not an all day event so it's great addition to your visit. Well worth it!

What a place !

By Roving22556276239 |

Just a wonderful place. The dogs (including the 8 week old puppies) were truly incredible. Emma told us and showed us how the dogs are bred and trained. She was both bubbly and informative and could tell she loved what she did. The final portion of the tour was hosted by Amanda, the head musher. She told us everything involved in participating in the Iditarod taking and answering questions about the incredibly grueling race. The whole visit was wonderful and worth every penny.

Wonderful tour!

By beneman3 |

The Husky Homestead tour was highly recommended to us. It did not disappoint. The demonstrations and talks were so entertaining and educational and our grandchildren especially enjoyed holding the puppies. This was one of our best excursions of our entire trip. Easy to book independently.

Better than we imagined!

By Barbara B |

We loved our experience at the Husky Homestead. Nathan was our guide & driver and he did. Great job. The puppies we adorable, the dogs were incredible athletes, and Jeff King in a wonderful story teller! I feel so lucky that this was the place we picked to learn about mushing. I have two teenage boys that are influenced by the world on a daily basis. My goal is always to introduce them to people who are doing amazing things. People that will have a positive influence on them. Jeff King and his staff were just that!

Great experience

By wmoyleod |

We learned so much! Very informative and fun! And we got lots slid cuddles with puppies. We have a new respect for this sport.

Puppy-licious & Informative!

By Carol D |

We were on our once in a lifetime trip to Alaska and did it all. I must say you cannot, by any means, pass this by. The puppies were so awesome, the dogs were amazing too. I learned about Alaskan Husky sled dogs and how they were born to run! I always thought they were forced to do it - NOT! Jeff King is a more than gracious host and happy to answer all questions. I especially loved his stories of the Iditarod and how he takes such good care of the animals during the grueling race. Also, it is so apparent how much they care for and love the dogs and the dogs give the love right back.

So much fun!

By Megan |

I loved my trip to Husky Homestead! I learned a lot about dog sledding and the Iditarod. The dogs are well cared for and clearly LOVE to run! Staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. I appreciated that Jeff talks about some of the female Iditarod winners and all the volunteers. This was one of the highlights of my trip!

Puppy Love at Husky Homestead ❤️🐶

By Barbara K |

The puppies are adorable and you are allowed to hold them & get your picture taken with them. I was expecting more outside time for the tour. Jeff, the owner, spoke inside the majority of the time about all aspects of the Iditarod race (required food, sled, etc) It was very interesting & informative! Would highly recommend going to Huskey Homestead.

Amazing Sled Dog Kennel

By Heidi Hartman |

So amazing to meet Jeff King, Amanda Otto and all the dogs. As soon as we stepped onto this beautiful kennel we were handed a puppy. You get to see all the dogs and learn all the creative ways Jeff trains the dogs. Jeff’s presentation was highly informative and fun! I highly recommend this tour if you are in Denali!

Fun and educational experience with Alaskan huskies

By Tamara H |

We had a great visit. Lots of exposure to the dogs and also very informative. Would highly recommend.

Surprisingly educational - and puppies!

By Charity H |

We went primarily so my daughter could see the puppies, but this turned out to be so much more enjoyable than I assumed a tour of a kennel and training facility could be. Yes, the puppies are adorable, but it was amazing watching the big dogs run. And seeing how much they really wanted to run was just wow. The portion of the presentation where the guide talks about what it takes to participate in the Iditarod was really funny and educational (unlike a lot of presentations like that I actually paid attention the whole time). Best part, though, is that during the presentation, my daughter and the other kids got to go to a ‘puppy party’ and hang out with the puppies, which made her trip. Highly recommended.

So entertaining even we cat people loved it

By Juja80301 |

We walked to this attraction from our lodging at Denali Cabins and it was a treat! Iditarod champion Jeff King is a true showman — it’s no wonder all the tour buses come here. You get to hold a husky puppy and learn all about how the dogs are trained and cared for. It was fun and fascinating. You’ll love it.

We had a great time, would definitely recommend

By Rick W |

The dogs were incredible and the puppies were so cute. Jeff was very informative and funny. The bond between man and his best friend was never more evident.

Fun time and very Informative

By BOB K |

We visited this place after our trip to Denali was shortened by the road closure. It was really fun to see how the dogs are trained for the Iditarod racing. If you are looking for something that doesn't take a long time fit this into your schedule.

Amazing experience!

By Joanne B |

If you’ve made it this far to Alaska, then you need to go to the Husky Homestead! Very well organized and absolutely inspiring as the staff AND JEFF KING -for goodness sakes!!!- gave some tourists like us a taste of the Mushers world and a lesson about the amazing Alaskan Husky! Mr. King is a treasure and a magnificent presenter with laugh out loud commentary about his adventures. If you consider yourself “an animal person”, you NEED to go snuggle with a pup, see and hear the dogs excitement to participate, and smile with people lucky enough to work with them!

The BEST part of our trip

By Catherine H |

The Husky Homestead is a perfect combination of quality time with champion pups (as well as actually puppies!) and a fascinating overview of what it takes to have a competitive sled dog team.

What wowed us about the tour was the personal touches. From the moment you get out of your car, friendly staff members are there to greet you (puppies in hand) for you to meet and hold. It's clear the staff love what they do and love the dogs.

Our guide for the day was sled dog expert Amanda Otto who just recently completed the Iditarod this past March. She was so knowledgeable about the sport and painted a picture for us of not only what is required to have a competitive team of dogs, but the care, love, and passion underneath it all.

Bottom line --- this tour was 90 minutes of stepping into the world and behind the scenes of a musher. It was full of sweet surprises and Instagrammable moments. Worth every penny.

Highlight of the trip so far

By Extraordinary543777 |

Went to Husky Homestead today. What a great experience. Get to hold a puppy and then learn about the dogs and dog sledding. Staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. Would recommend to everyone.

Cute and smart

By Andy A |

Getting a puppy in your hands when leaving the bus is only the beginning of a very interesting and entertaining visit at husky homestead. We learned a lot about raising and training Alaskan's best sled dogs. Thank you vor an amazing experience.

Great opportunity

By MamaBarBar |

Loved this visit. The dogs were sooo cute and the staff was excellent. Learned a lot about the Iditarod race. Wow! The Alaskan huskies are amazing animals.

Disinterested staff, no time with dogs, filled with cruise ship passengers, aimed to upsell merchandise

By pcd750 |

I am sorry to say this, but this was not a great tour. I was hoping for greatness, but it is nowhere near as good as the other Husky Tours you can find in Alaska. This was a rote presentation that seems intended to service the basic needs ot the cruise ship passengers staying at one of the Denali Resorts (of which we were not) and then an "opportunity" to purchase souvenirs.
