Enjoyed walking along the dragon's teeth trail. Beautiful way to spend a few hours. Some parts of the trail were a bit challenging along the coast so use caution.

Excellent hike for everyone!
Easy walk along the ocean!
Add on Dragon’s teeth area when done
Just beautiful

The Coastal trail offers an opportunity to walk along the coast and see the magnificent views of the island. Located in Kaplua, you walk pass gorgeous homes as well as the Ritz Carlton resort.
Manageable trail

The 4 of us enjoyed the trail very much. The terrain is a little rough if you go exploring on the lava rocks but if you stay on the trail it is very pleasant.

Driving on road HI 340 and enjoying the views is a magnificent experience. Don't miss Nakalele Blowhole!

Views to die for! Surfing beach on the boardwalk. Dragon's Teeth landmark lies below the Ritz. Fleming Beach marks the end of the trail. The Snack Shack there on the beach offers lunch starting at 11am. Happy Hour ends at 4, but call to confirm times.

We walked this trail in the morning. Beautiful scenery and a great way to start the day with moderate exercise. Loved walking on the lave rocks to the water edge and viewing the famous 17th hole of Kapalua.

This is about a 3.5 mile round trip walk along the coastline of Maui. Boasting an excellent view of Molokai and beautiful panoramic views along the way, this trail is a must if you are on the west side of Maui

Good for everyone to take in the beauty of Maui. Easy trail. Just bring good shoes as some areas of the path are dirt/rocky.

Well used trail from Ritz Carlton hotel about 1.75 miles in length, ending at the beach, There is a side spur leading down to the Dragon's Teeth park where wind/sea erosion has shaped volcanic rock to look like a row of teeth sticking up.

Wanted to experience a beach hike and this was definitely that. Bring water!! The hike was a great hike with beautiful views and lots of exploring available. Lots of rock formations to climb out on and explore the amazing turquoise waters below. There are small pools of water to explore. There is a spot to hike down to cliff jump into the water (at your own risk). You cross a few calm beaches and a surfer beach with lots of waves. There are times where it winds through some resorts and a golf course. Definitely some uphill portions. Great hike but bring water and good walking shoes.

Beautiful views, easy hiking trail. For all ages, Look for the nesting birds and their chicks. great daily exercise

Ok so I'm biased, but this will be my favorite memory of my trip here since this is where I got engaged.
After spending an amazing day at Kapalua beach where there are tons of turtles to snorkel with, it doesnt take long to walk here to these lava cliffs which oversee clear beautiful blue water. Only a 5-10 minute walk to get to the cliffs after youve walked along the path to get to the entrance of the cliffs (takes about 20 minutes to get there) and its amazing. Great view of the bays, the water, and a cool way to see more of the resorts in the area when youre walking toward the cliffs.

Not the easiest of trails, but if you want exercise it is really worth the views. The path is rocky at parts and can be a little steep, but the beaches along the past are great.

Beautiful and easy hike that can be enjoyed by all ages! Bordered by numerous resorts, definitely not a remote hike, but it is handy, easy and worthwhile.

We strolled this lovely, easy to follow walk several times during our stay. It is good to wear sturdy shoes, not flip flops.

We had great weather for this hike. It's very easy, with a boardwalk at the beginning, leading to a rocky trail. There's several paths off the main trail, so you can wander along the cliffs a bit. We were lucky to find a parking place in the very small lot.

If hiking in the morning go early because parking is limited and fills quickly. This is a good trail thats easy and has very good scenery.

We really enjoyed this easy hike along the coast of Kapalua. The public parking filled up fast so we paid 10 dollars to park just a few steps away. I would recommend going out on the rocks to see the tide pools and to get a better view of the coast line. We loved the view of the island of Molokai and the rugged coast. We also learned that the Ritz-Carlton has to build farther back off the coast because when they were digging during construction they found a burial site.

A beautiful drive. Several places to stop and take pictures. The farther north you go the road becomes more rustic.

Enjoyed walking/climbing the rocks to get to the beach. Not too difficult, but felt a little challenged and was fun. Great views! I would recommend.

Natural beauty! This is a beautiful hike with photo opportunities throughout. It can be a bit winding, you definitely need appropriate shoes and watch your steps! Part of the path is on the coastal side of The Montage Hotel property which is beautiful! Definitely worth it!!

Every step of the trail is exceptionally beautiful. The lava formations are other worldly. Don't miss this hike!

Went on this walk based on previous reviews. Had to go twice as there was nowhere to park the first time, so got there early the following morning. Sensible shoes are strongly advised as the terrain is quite rocky. There are hills and steps, but I wouldn’t say it’s that difficult a hike. Great views along the way. Took us about 90 mins there and back and stopped for a coffee near to Napili Beach on our return. Definitely worth a visit.

Beach at the end of the boardwalk was awesome! Had fun in the water even though the wind whipped up the surf.

We were told to take a drive up there by one of our guides at one of the adventures we went on. Make sure you go to the place where there is a local guy selling banana bread, Lilikoi butter and guava jam! The views are breathtaking...I think the best on the island.

Nice trial to walk. Fresh air and beautiful scenery. At times, can see whales. Different terrain in various part of the trail. Must go if you are in the Lahaina area

Easy to moderate hike that's 99% directly on the ocean. The views and hotels and residences along the way are fun to look at as well. The trail is easy to follow and is either paved, wooden boards, or packed dirt.
We mapped to the 99 Coconut lane parking lot at 1pm on a Sunday. The side of the road was full of cars for people going to beach and some to the trail. The lot was full, but we discovered a side paid lot ($10 parking) for the Merriman's Kapalua restaurant that's available til 3pm.
However, the 2 paid parking options weren't functional, so we parked for free and no one in the lot got a ticket.

We stayed at a hotel in Kapalua and I couldn’t get enough of this gorgeous path along the water. It’s about 1.6 miles each way. It’s especially beautiful in the early morning and around sunset. Parts of it are more rough than others so be prepared to clean your shoes afterwards. Definitely walk out along the lava rocks to try and spot sea turtles, whales and dolphins. You can walk one way on the path and the other way on a sidewalk along the street if you like. There’s several beautiful beaches along the way. Love it!

Short hike with great views. Easy for hikers of all ages and abilities. Ends abruptly and is not a loop, but a solid experience.

A nice walk along the rugged north-west coast. Parking is down office road off of 30. You can go either way on the trail from there. to the left takes you to Kapalua Beach - most beautiful on the island, the other way goes up to DT Fleming and beyond.

We loved walking this trail. The scenery and views are amazing and the hike is fairly easy but you still need to watch your step at all times as the path is rocky and uneven at times. We all wore water shoes but sneakers is probably a better choice. We made it as far as the Oneloa Beach where we took a dip in the ocean and rested, then headed back toward the end we started from.

The scenic Kapalua Coastal Trail stretches from Kapalua Bay up to D.T. Fleming Beach (north of the Ritz Carlton). Wear sturdy shoes to negotiate the trail which consists of pavement, lava rocks, dirt, gravel, wooden boardwalks, sand, and stairs. Bring plenty of water and wear a hat - most of the 1.75 mile (one-way) trail is exposed and without shade. This trail is not friendly to wheelchairs and strollers. We saw a young family with a toddler and baby. The toddler ran ahead of her parents and tripped on some rocks and the parents were unable to wheel the stroller on the uneven trail. Their hike was short-lived.

This is a beautiful and easy hike to do, especially first thing in the morning. You can take a little bit of a diversion when you hit the Ritz Carlton lot to get to Dragon’s Teeth, which is a beautiful lookout. One thing I will say is I was appalled at the people who don’t respect the strength and power of the ocean and walk down way too far and put themselves in grave danger. Putting that aside, this trail is stunning and there are so many beautiful views and nature. Highly recommend.

The ocean views from this trail are wonderful. I was blown away by the ocean and the rock formations. Trail was beautiful and easy to walk.

Don't miss this breathtaking hike on an easy trail! Roundtrip from Napili is about 3 1/2 miles, and it is gorgeous the entire way. You are able to have 180 degree ocean views, with whales breaching and spouting, the whole hike. Also, the turn around point is at Flemings beach - which is beautiful - and there is a burger shack there with killer mai tais, if you want a fun stop at the half way point. This hike compares to the memorable national park hikes that we have taken. I did it 3 times during the week I was on Maui, and already look forward to going back and doing it some more!

This is a relatively easy walk in the Fleming Beach area with great views of the coast and ocean waves crashing on the rocks. Finding a place to park can be the most difficult thing if you decide to go later in the day, The Kapalua Coastal Trail either starts from D.T. Fleming Beach Park or from Kapalua Bay and it is almost 3.5 miles round trip and longer if you walk out to Hawea Point.
You can try to park on Kapalua Place in the beach access parking lot for Oneloa Beach, or you can park at the D.T. Fleming Beach Park lot and walk the path on the Ritz Carlton property and a short block on the Lower Honoapiilani Road taking a right on Kapalua Place to get to the Kapalua Coastal Trail via the iron gate. This is an easy walk most of the way and you can make it as short as you wish by turning back at any point. The Coastal Trail provides spectacular views of the ocean and coast with much of it going through the bird sanctuary for the largest known colony of wedge-tailed shearwaters in Maui (keep on the trail).

Excellent trail, ok for novices. Go to the end to see the cave and protected area! Take a water and snack with you.

We did this last week with our teen boys. Beautiful, easy hike, mostly paved or easy paths. Only a short part is rocky. Take water as there is no shade and go early to beat the crowds and get parking. Maui is mobbed with tourists now as you will see on some of the beaches you pass on this hike.

easy walk/hike, gorgeous views, saw whales, go to parking lot as early in am as you can...if possible go out onto the dragon teeth rocks for great views and picture taking

Not sure what year somone managed to get blue sky sunny pictures as it rained for six days straight while I was here.. . It was a pretty area though and I suspect that if the sun does show up, you would have some great views. Maui in Jan is not the place to be if you want sun.

Awesome little hike with multiple different routes leading to a peninsula with awesome views. Going to the far left will lead to an approx 15 foot cliff huck into a deep pool and going straight leads to some tide pools depending on the surf

We walked this trail in both directions. some up and down, some uneven surfaces. I think some of my best pictures were taken along this trail

You will enjoy breathtaking views of the ocean and rocky coast line. The trail is about 1.75 miles long and you can pick up a map if needed but you really can't get lost. It's not a difficult trail necessarily but anyone that is mobility impaired should avoid - or at least the rocky area. A warning is posted at the beginning of that part of the trail.

Beautiful view but trail is quite rocky if you’re a bit unsteady on that type of terrain. Pretty resort nearby but arrive early if you want to get close parking.

I’ve seen mixed commentary on how difficult this hike is. Some say moderately difficult, and others say it’s very easy. I did it on a rainy/windy day, so it was occasionally slippery in the mud. It is rocky (both lava and rocks) and at times you are climbing up and or down rocks to continue along the path. I saw some people starting out in flip flops - they did not complete the trail. Some with kids turned back. The trail is pretty well marked, although there is a lava part that is a little confusing. It’s a beautiful view. It’s worth the effort, but I would not call it an easy hike.

There are several places to access the coastal trail: from the Kapalua Beach parking lot to the Ritz Carlton. You can stop along the way for swimming, snorkeling, cliff jumping, cliff walks, bogie boarding, surfing or visiting dragon's teeth and the labyrinth. Parking may always be an issue, however, you can park for $10/day at the Kapalua Tennis Club parking lot across from Merriman's restaurant. The views are simply spectacular and it is totally free. You will love all the photo ops available. Bring water because there aren't many water fountains along the way. Travel lightly because you don't want to have to cart many things around while on the trail. It is not strenuous although you need a good had to shield the bright sunshine. Do this and commune with the ocean. The white water breaking on the cliffs is mesmerizing.

One of my most favorite Hawaiian walks. We start out from Kapalua Bay and stroll along the water's edge all the way to D.T. Fleming Beach. Spectacular views of four different bays. This trail is best taken in the morning as there are few places to get in out of the direct sun. However, this trail is not to be missed.

Located on the northwest coast of Maui this easy walking trail was terrific. Mostly paved or boardwalk surfaces....easy for me at 66 with a bad back. Trail is 1.7 miles each way but seemed shorter. Saw giant waves crashing into shore rocks on yet another sunny 80° day.

We snorkeled at Kapalua Bay and then walked the Coastal Trail. We walked to the Fleming Beach by the Ritz and then returned. Easy hike. Beautiful ocean views with whales, in season.

Seems to take an odd route by stopping and starting over again. A little longer than I cared for but we did see some beautiful ocean views and a couple of beaches. Don't forget to bring water. By the time we finished, I was hot and tired, but the amazing sights made it worth it.

Just got back from the trail. Parking lots on both ends were full and so was the street. Drove around for about 20 minutes waiting for someone to leave. If you dont mind spending $10, pop into the Kapula Golf Club tennis court parking area across the street from the trail parking lot by Bay Club Place. You pay $10 at the tennis court office and they give you a receipt. Parking is good all day.

Great view of the ocean, a nice walk in nature, I loved every moment of it. The colors, the sounds, everything amazing

We actually started our walk in Lahana and made our way to the Kapalua Coastal Trail and back (just under 15 KM roundtrip). The Coastal Trail is a very easy and gentle walk, as much of it is paved. The uneven sections are easy to manage, but sturdy walking shoes are recommended while going over the lava rock. Great views of the Pacific and one can spot whales throughout the trail.
Bring some water since there aren't any fountains along the trail.

My husband and I walked this trail a couple mornings during our stay in Maui. We stayed at Kaanapali Beach Club so we took the road through Napili and parked on the side of the road. The trailhead is easy to find and there is a very nice beach at the beginning. It is paved, along with rock/dirt, some steps and then paved again while walking through the villas coming across another beach. Highly recommended. You can start from either end. I didn't find parking to be a huge problem.

Nice views along the coast, a mini hike, do need walking shoes as some areas are steep and rocky. Can walk back the same way or on the road.

Go early in the morning to beat the crowds and heat. It was a perfect morning walk with beautiful sights. We did this on our second to last day but I wish we did this sooner!

There are private resorts on this trail. Security at those resorts will shout at you. Why a trail is in both private and public parts, we do not understand.

Go early in the morning when there aren't many people, before it gets hot and the birds are everywhere. If you are lucky, you'll spot sea turtles along the rocky cliff. The trail is rough in some places so wearing running shoes are a better choice than flipflops. Be sure to go both directions on the trail. It's surprising the different things you see.

This trail is about 2 miles. We start at the end near Fleming Beach (near the Ritz). There are several free parking lots. Trail hugs the coast and the crashing waves. Beautiful!!

LOVE getting to walk the Kapalua Coastal Trail! It varies by the time of day, weather, but it is filled with so many varied beautiful vistas. There is some flat walking, hills, moderate rocky climbing-it has it all. This is a moderate trail that families can surely enjoy.

Unfortunately it was early morning and a bit drizzly. But still enjoyed the views and fresh air. Lovely walk, a bit uneven, if your not steady on your pins

A stunning and easy coastal walk with plethora of picture perfect postcard views across a range of different types of terrain. We went during the evening for sunset and there were a number of people with photographers getting professional photographs taken. One of our favourite activities on our day trip to West Maui.

This encompasses the dragons teeth area and is really beautiful to hike around. The surf was very high when we were there which made all the waves even more beautiful. Also just up the street is Honolua Store. Go there! Only place on the island we could find a meal for less than $10 and they have all the accoutrements you could want in addition to food.

We were fortunate to park in a tiny lot somewhere along the trail, but now I realize there are better parking options if you start at either end of the trail.
Oneola Beach/Bay is amazing! The view from above on the trail is fantastic and the beach itself is just as enjoyable. Extra-soft sand, light blue water, and fun waves that are just the right size to be exciting but not too dangerous.

This is a fun and easy walk however no sandals !!! Wear running shoes or a good hiking shoes. There are two free public parking spots, one on either end but I suggest you start at the south end and plan a round trip. The walk is a combination of pavement walking past hotels and condos and a dirt/rock trail that walks you past beautiful cliffs and beaches. By starting at the south end( parking is right next to Merriman’s and Seahouse) you end up at Fleming Beach and Dragons Teeth Labrynth above the beach. Bring your swim suit and towels and a change of cloths. I suggest walking up the paved road after your swim to The Honolulu Store for lunch. Burgers and Poke Bowls are superb. Head back down the hill and do the return walk finishing up in time for Happy Hour at Merrimans or Seahouse. My favorite view, and there are many great ones , is at Oneloa Bay. The colours of the ocean and the will blow your mind. There are more difficult hikes but this is probably the easiest with great views and plenty of options for lunch, swimming and Happy Hour as a prize.

We walked along the beach, climbed on the rocks and took so many beautiful pictures! We couldn't get over how beautiful Maui is!

We returned to Maui in April and walked this Kapalua Coastal Trail again. It is a beautiful easy walk and very scenic. If you start just past Sea House restaurant you can walk all the way to the end.

this is a great hike and has many awesome views along the way. would definitely recommend this to anyone that is up for the challenge. awesome Hawaiian hiking area.

From the Marriott/Whaler's Village, we took the local bus ($1 for seniors, $2 for regular fare) up to the Kapalua golf course. From there, we walked down to the beach (D.T. Fleming), around the Honokaihua Burial site (ancient, sacred, cultural grounds), along the Kapalua Coastal Trail, and back to the bus stop (route #28) in front of Sea Horse Restaurant.
The views are incredible and the walking paths are varied, ranging from picking your way through rocky inclines to flat, paved pathways (and everything in between).
Just a word of caution: if you can avoid driving a car here, you will have a much better time. Parking is all on the side of the road and the spaces are such a challenge that it is a wonder how many fender-benders happen while negotiation the limited spaces. On a nice day, it is near impossible to find a space within walking distance.
Do consider the bus. It will take you back to Whaler's Village and from there, you can catch the free local green bus that will take you to the Marriott and further if the short walk back to the Marriott is something you don't want to do. That freebie bus services the local Kaanapali Hotels.
Also, that bus service (different route number) will also go to Cannery Mall and to downtown Lahaina.
This made for a near-perfect day. Loved our walk and the ease of taking the bus to do it.

The trail is great. However, in the last 6 months they began a payment for parking system. I am fine paying to park, but when I pulled in at 730 am and saw the signs, the only option they gave me was all day parking (until 10 pm) for $29! I love the trail (I have walked it many times in visits over the last 12 years) but this seems excessive. The technology (they use license plates) is easy enough to allow an hourly rate (even a high hourly rate or 3 hour rate for snorkeling perhaps) but to have to pay for the day seems punitive (especially since when we left there were no other spaces). Peolpe love the trail and the bay, but why not give other options - they might even make more money and let more people enjoy the trail and snorkeling.

Easy walk, stunning views! Do it! Lookk for Cliff house for a dip in the water on calm days. You wont regret it.

This trail has some nice views of the local coves & beaches but is not particularly adventurous at all. It weaves in & out of some of the local resorts and is fairly busy with lots of tourists. I would suggest going further up the coast past Honolua Bay if you want a more impressive trail with better views and less people.

Of course the views are lovely, and you surely will hanker after that beautiful island always in view. It takes you from gorgeous Kapalua Beach to Oneloa Beach, with its fun waves, and ends at Slaughterhouse Beach, which has even better coral tha Kapalua. But as a hike, you are continually exposed to the heat, so best to do it early, which has the added plus of clearer water for snorkeling. Plan for 4-5 hours of activity if you want to taste every beach. One caveat: it’s a little sickening that some private landholder refused the right of way along the coast, so the trail has to break off and head inland on a concrete sidewalk for quite some time.

Very nice walk, quite easy to complete. But not handicap or wheelchair accessible as you will have to walk over some rocky areas that are not paved trail. Not much shade or anywhere to sit. We ended up staying on our way back at the beach at the beginning of the trail, Kapalua Bay beach Found this little cove to be better than the better known Ka'opala Beach. This small beach has very calm water since it's a cove and is crystal clear with some reefs to snorkel over as well. It has limited space and gets a lot of people from the hotel next to it.
Parking for the trail or the beach is challenging if you don't get there early. There is a small parking lot which fills up quickly from people going to the beach. Everybody else parks along the side of the road so you may have to walk a bit and be very careful from all the traffic.
It would be nice if there was some sort of vendor nearby or long the trail where you could get a drink or buy snacks while you are at the beach, but there is absolutely nothing. Everybody seem to bring their own stuff.
I definitely recommend this trail if you're looking for an easy walk along the coast for great views and some nice photos. About halfway through the trail it goes inland along the hotel properties so you won't be seeing the coast at that point. It was a nice way to fill some hours before going to our scheduled luau that evening.

Beautiful views, and a beachfront trail that is accessible to all skill levels of hiking. Very small parking area so get there early unless you want to pay to park.

There is great parking here complete with security cameras. The board walk was nice for a quick walk. There are the 2 ends and if you go to the far north/west there is more parking however it does not have bathrooms like the other side. There were turtles along the walk that we were able to watch.

Nice seaside trail. Easy walking. Goes by Kapalua Bay, the Montage Hotel, and the Ironwoods area and beach. Little offshoot trail goes out on Hawea Point. Too short and too many people for it to warrant 5 stars, but a nice walk.

Totally easy to follow, and a great way to get away from all the tourist crazy and into nature. Saw lots of whales while we walked. Go out on the point by Fleming Beach & the golf course. Enjoyed our walk, started at 7 am!

Amazing ocean views. It was worth stopping at some of the hotspots to take memorable photos. We took our time and always drove the speed limit so that we wouldn’t miss anything.

Great easy walk along the bluffs overlooking the ocean. Views of Molokai. Don't wear flip flops though!

Parts of the trail are true, rocky trail - part is a paved and busy roadway - part is a flat boardwalk - and two parts are cement pathways...As I said, the Trail has something for everyone.
One end of the trail can be accessed from a public parking lot by Merrimen's restaurant. Parking can be tight so be prepared to park along side the street. The other end starts at DT Fleming Beach where there's two large lots. Just know that figuring the parking out is half the battle in using the trail. There is also access to the trail approximately behind the Ritz - though that lot is super small.
Walk the entire length and you'll pass by three different beaches. Each is unique and interesting. Walk to the point and watch waves crash and spray fly. Watch the surfers at Ironwood Beach. Grab a high-end burger at Fleming Beach.
I enjoyed the trail a great deal and walked it many days - mixing up where I'd start and end just to keep it interesting. There were always lots of people enjoying the trail and scenery.
All-in-all it was a pleasant experience.

The hike is not easy. There are other easy hikes. Please go to other places for hike. This is real difficult.

Enjoyed this hike around Kapalua so much we did it 2 days in a row. It was really nice and the views are some of the best on Maui.

Hikes in West Maui are slim pickens. Either you do something with a lot of elevation gain and exposure or you do an easy coastal walk. This trail ups the ante on easy coastal walk by adding in some lava rock scrambling. Great views. Did it in the late afternoon and had no trouble snagging a spot in the beach parking lot.

This is more of a walk and not so much a hike. It does have some changes in elevation. The terrain varies from paved to boardwalk to dirt path. I though it was exceptionally pretty in the morning. This ends where the Mahana Ridge trail begins (that one is more more difficult)

Coastal trail has great views-go early or late to avoid the heat!
Enjoy The Burger Shack at The Ritz after your long walk.

We started at the north end and enjoyed the vegetation, interesting rock formations and the crashing waves.

A fun drive to take or walk the sidewalks. Very pretty ocean front and worth the effort. Little shops on the other side of the road that are fun to go thru.

This trail is great for a morning stroll along the beaches of Kapalua. You can get a feel for the beach at which you want to spend the rest of the day, based on wind and sunshine. Views are terrific and the air is clean.

Finding parking may be tough. You can park on the road or there is a very small Kapalua Beach lot; need to get lucky or wait for a spot on the road. Trail is 1.75 miles out past the Ritz Carlton. It is paved and crushed rock in spots, very easy hike. Beautiful scenery. Crashing waves against the rocks. Kapalua Beach is awesome.
Stop for lunch at the Burger Shack just past the Ritz at the end for lunch right on the ocean.

A scenic trail along the sea takes you along a trail that is not groomed or accessible due to steep grades over rocks, but it is very scenic. The trail is approximately 2 miles or less. It goes from outside of the Ritz property (actually an almost hidden walkway through the private residences of Kapalua gated community) to Kapalua Bay.
It is worth doing for the scenery. It’s best to wear sturdy comfortable shoes and bring your camera.
There is only a short boardwalk near the Kapalua residences but otherwise you are hiking on rocks and trails.
Kapalua Bay is also a very small but protected bay good for families and snorkeling. You can rent equipment from the beach.

Wow, we knew about this for years and just hadn't done it, what a nice little hike! Magnificent views along the coastline plus wild lava formations, amazing flowers and even spinner dolphin offshore. Oh and don't forget, more whales to watch. You can start in at least three places with parking and walk as much as you can handle. Wear plenty of sunscreen and take lots of water too. Start at Kapalua Bay, D.T. Fleming Park or somewhere in the middle. Just under 1.8 miles total from end to end with some steep rocky areas to cross, be careful. The trail unfolds with wonders around every bend, enjoy!!!

I wouldn't call this a hike. It's more of a walk. Nonetheless, the scenery is pretty. Part of the path cuts through a very upscale resort that you can dream about staying in.
Be prepared, however. There's no shade to speak of and it gets hot. But, a nice walk all around.

This was a lot of fun....with a little bit a scary. The drive around this side of the island had great views, a few fun stops (beaches, gift shops and food stands) and just a few minutes of scary due to one stretch of the rood being barely 1 lane and on the edge of the mountain. Not nearly the stops and waterfalls you find on the HANA side, but a fun trip if you have a few extra hours one afternoon.

Even if you don’t fancy hiking, this is worth the trip. The views are spectacular, the foliage and experience is definitely worth seeing. Please make sure to pack your trash out with you. This place is too nice to trash up.

This is a relatively easy hike that should be done in shoes rather than sandals. Some of it is paved next to hotel resorts but some of it is rocky and uneven next to the ocean. You will want to venture off to a side trail to see Dragons teeth too where the winds are strong and waves are big crashing in the rocks. Be careful to stay on the dry part. Be sure to arrive early for parking (before 8am) and you will have no issues finding a spot at either end of the trail plus all the beaches along the way are empty. At 10am on return trip the beaches were jam packed and so were the lots. This took us 2 hours but we took our time, explored a bit and took pictures. It could be done in one hour roundtrip. After we even stayed for awhile to snorkel in Kapalua bay - lots of fish and good conditions. Enjoy!

The Kapalua Coastal Trail had beautiful ocean views. It took longer than we expected because we lost track of time while watching the turtles swimming into the shallow waters along the shoreline. Wear a hat and closed toe shoes. If you choose to walk on parts of the trail nearest to the ocean, where we saw the turtles and tide pools full of little fish and an eel), you will be walking on some jagged volcanic rock. It's also a good idea to bring some water. There was no shade.

We enjoyed a walk on the trail one morning during our one week stay. It's well marked, not too long, and not to difficult. If you keep your eyes on the surf you don't notice (too much) that for a good bit of it you are closely passing someone's vacation condo. A perfect jaunt right down to being caught in a brief shower.

I promise you won't be disappointed with the Kapula Coastal Trail. Walk all the way to the end and snorkel in the same cove the charters go to, jump off the rocks and take in the amazing views. I'd say this is a must do if you're in the area.

My wife and I hiked this trail on Feb28/19. Trail is well established and is easy to follow. Tremendous views of the ocean while you hike along the trail. The trail is fairly flat and good for beginner and novice hikers. Trail is approximately 6km long. Once you get past the first 750M to 1km, the trail was uncrowded and peaceful. Worth the hike if you are checking out the black sand beach in the park.

When a cold front moved through and brought wind and high surf, the trail was litteraly breathtaking.

Decided to squeeze this in for my daily walk. The trail was easy and the views we're breathtaking. I did have to park at the Kapalula Tennis Club and pay $10.00. It was worth it and easy to get to the trail from there.

The Kapalua Coastal Trail is an approximately 2.5 mi/4.0 km out-and-back trail that runs along the northwest Maui coast, between Kapalua Bay and D.T. Fleming Beach Park, affording hikers some outstanding oceanfront views. My wife and I hiked this trail on a breezy morning during mid-October 2024.
You can access the trail from several points, including Kapalua Bay and the beach access parking lot at The Bay Villas. We were able to snag one of the free parking spots in the small lot near the Oneloa Bay access point to the trail.
The trail itself features an interesting mix of terrains, including a boardwalk, pavement, lava rocks, and sand. Because of the rock and sand portions, you should wear a sturdy pair of shoes – i.e., you shouldn’t attempt this trail wearing flip flops or barefoot. Overall, the trail is fairly flat and easy to navigate, so it is appropriate for both families and seniors. NOTE that the trail is very exposed, so getting an early start (especially in the summer) would be a good idea.
The hike is not overly strenuous, and the views along the trail are spectacular. If you enjoy light hiking along the ocean, the Kapalua Coastal Trail is highly recommended.

A fun and fairly easy hike. Check out the Dragon's Teeth formation and labyrinth. Also some interesting information about the sacred Burial Grounds. Bring water!

Easy hiking and so beautiful! We have been on this hike several times. However, most people were not wearing masks. If you love fantastic views and a great walk, we highly recommend. You will walk by beaches but also cliffs that are truly amazing! We saw turtles and whales (February visit). Very windy so dress accordingly and ladies, recommend putting hair up.

This hike is good solo, as a couple, or a family. It’s not too challenging and winds along some of the most incredible coastal landscape on Maui. It’s easy to start at Montage, where there is public parking. You will be treated to ocean spray off the black lava rocks, sea turtles floating in the waves, and views of incredible beaches, including Flemings beach. Bring your board shorts and take a dip! The hike ends at the Ritz where you can grab a snack and a beverage. Enjoy!

This walk gives a gorgeous experience of both beaches and rocky shores with beautiful surf crashing in.

We hiked this trail from our hotel - Na Pali Kai. Enjoyed the views and found this not to be too difficult for 70 year olds. The trail weaves in and out of the Kapalua golf community so you are sometimes on the street (sidewalk) and sometimes hugging the coastline. Bring Water!!!

What a great trail! You can just wake up and walk, jog, run, etc... to any location. From white sand beaches to coastal cliffs you get quite the views in while enjoying the trails. Well kept and used by many.

The Kapalua Coastal Trail is one of the best kept secrets of West Maui. We snorkeled at Kapalua Bay and were staying at the Ritz so we walked the trail back. Very convenient to those staying at the Ritz or the Montage. It is absolutely stunning!! It was fantastic to see the natural splendor that Maui has to offer. If you are in the area, don’t miss this!

Not suitable for flip flops or strollers! This trail follows the stunning coast with breathtaking views from every bend. Advisable to wear a hat as there is not much shade here. Take the little paths off the trail down to the beaches for even more spectacular views. Oh we took so many photos and videos! Waled it three times in one week. Totally worth it.

This is a beautiful walk to tide pools and ocean spray. Be sure to lather up with the sunscreen. So worth the time to do this if in the area. We saw a lot of sea turtles along the way. Beautiful for pictures.

This is a convenient and beautiful trail next to the Napili beach. Get your snorkel gears, you might want to stop along some spots on the trail to have your private snorkeling.
This is a nice walk away from the beach and snorkeling then dive back to the beautiful Napili beach.

We loved this drive a million times more than the road to Hana. It has views that are breathtaking. Seeing the turtles swimming around from a few hundred feet up is pretty cool too!

Depending on which end you start from, you can reward yourself with some food and/or beverages on either end (Merriman's, or Burger Shack). We started at the Kapalua beach parking lot, which is small, so, get there early, or, get there in the afternoon and you might get lucky, as we did. A portion of this is paved, and the parts that are not paved are not particularly challenging. Lovely views, very little shade.

We spent a week in the Hawaiian islands, and our morning taking this walk was one of the most pleasant of the whole trip, with stunning views of the coast and nearby islands. It's a two-mile path, and note that the middle mile is unpaved. It isn't difficult, but you have to watch your step so you don't trip on a rock. Most of the path is unshaded, so bring a hat and water and try to walk as early in the morning as possible, before it gets too hot. We stopped for lunch at the poolside bar at the Montage resort, and a drink at the Ritz Carlton, but there are other places to stop as well. A highlight of any visit to west Maui.

One of our favorite things we did while in Maui. My family (wife and daughters, age 4 and 7) spent a half day walking the trail. We stopped at the beach (Oneloa Bay) to swim. This beach is amazing!! Very few people, crystal clear water, and fun waves. My children had no problems walking the trail and it did not worry us at all.

Wild, rocky coastal trail, with amazing views and thundering surf. I couldn't walk to the maze because of mobility issues, but the others in my group found it beautiful. Simply a gorgeous area of the coast.

This trail is an easy walk that begins behind the Napili Kai Resort. It is mostly paved and starts at beautiful Kapalua Bay. There are a few hills and if you choose to take a bit of a detour goes off through a Bird sanctuary. The only challenge here is if it has recently been raining, the mud on the trail can be very slippery, so watch your footing. You will be rewarded with spectacular ocean and cliff views.

This was an easy trail for all ages along the west coast of Maui. Great views of Molokai and volcanic rock. One pretty beach along the way.

Hike through the lava fields with great vistas. Make sure to wear good shoes because lava is very sharp. Wonderful hike!

The drive up to the trail from Lahaina is pretty but once you get here you are treated to some spectacular scenery. We visited here on a lovely sunny afternoon and there was a pleasant breeze. The trial itself is pretty easy walking and you are treated to many breakers hitting the rocks along the coast. Really worth taking time to go here and having a refreshment after.

This coastal trail starts at Kapulua Bay. Limited parking there unless you are staying in the area. The first part is an paved road along the coast and some of the condos. It then turns into a path along the lava beside the areas where sea birds nest. A little rocky but the path is quite well marked.... beautiful views of the ocean and can see whales out on the ocean. Good spots for pictures. The rocky trail turns into a boardwalk and then reaches a path that takes you up the road. Walk along the road and you will eventually reach the beautiful ritz carlton hotel. Can walk down the hotel path to the beach where the trail ends. 1.76 miles each way. Nice leisurely walk.

Very easy hike - some hills/dirt trails were a little bit difficult, but easy for able-bodied folks. Views were spectacular - worth the round trip hike of about an hour.

We parked at D.T. Fleming Beach to access the northern trailhead for this scenic 1.76 mile walk which ends at the south end of Kapalua Bay. It essentially traverses the expansive grounds of the Ritz Carlton Kapalua and the Ritz Carlton Club and Residences, Kapalua Bay. The scenery is amazing -- just look at the pictures; especially the rugged lava outcropping which serves as a nesting area for native seabirds.

The trail is easy to find and not too difficult to walk as it is well managed. Parking is hard to find though! We started the hike around 10:00am, but I would go earlier next time. We had some stunning views and even had a whale sighting!!

An excellent trail that meanders past a high end hotel and its Golf Course, through residential areas and all the while, you have a front row seat to the ocean.
I’d suggest running shoes, rather than open sandals, if you want to walk out to the water’s edge. The rocks are rough and toes could get ‘scuffed’ if you’re not wearing decent footwear!

This is a great hike for all family members. It is a nice easy walk. Mostly flat. It goes over some rough walking areas and a lot of paved areas. The views are great. There are also some nice beaches that you can stop at if you like. Very well recommended.

you can make this leisurely or make it a workout. the views all along the way are great. you will likely see sea turtles along the way also. parts are sand, gravel, and as you get closer to the Ritz property there is a boardwalk that turns into a paved path. I walked this- less than 2 miles from Napili Kai to Fleming Beach and also ran it which was challenging. I did it 3 days in a row and never once grew tired of it.

Beautiful trail and you'll get some great photos of the scenery and birds here. But most importantly, if you want to cliff jump, this is your place! Follow the trail north past the Cliff House, and a few mins later you'll see it becomes a rocky sandy trail to the left (at the next condo development)/ Follow that "backward" along the coast, past an old rusted white metal structure, and around to the most awesome inlet where locals and adventurous tourists love to jump! The jump is about 12-15 feet I'm guessing and it's so popular that there is actually a metal ladder permanently installed there!

A very easy walk along the coastline around Kapalua. Decent walking shoes are recommended as it is part boardwalk and then a dirt trail. Lots of tidal pools, crashing waves and turtles to be seen from up high. Going slowly and stopping to admire the scenery, you can walk the length of the trail and back in 1.5 hours. Good bird watching also.

Beautiful view - easy to hike with breathtaking views -
The area by the ritz is awesome to hike and there is a super yummy burger and shake Oceanside restaurant near by

There are a few reserved public parking spots, but not nearly enough for all the visitors in this area. You have to stalk people for a spot or get lucky. Beautiful area though.

I just want to add my positive comments on this walk -- not a hard hike, but need good shoes, well worth it. We walked it twice in 6 days and would have done more if not for other activities planned. Early in day is much less crowded (and you can find parking). We also snorkeled at the bay which was quite good.

The walk itself is mostly through the grounds of resorts, so it feels like a garden walk if you look landward. Park halfway along the walk, not at the advertised southern end, which is full by 10am.

We took the Maui bus to Kapalua Beach and walked the path up to the trail. There are nesting birds in the environ so tread softly and carefully!
The views are incredible" Molokai Island is right in sight and the expanse of clear beautiful water is worth the walk to see. But the walk to the end will go down to D T Fleming Beach which is a long walk away.
We really enjoyed our time here but did not hike the rough lava-rock terrain. You pick your battles. Not today, thank you.

The trail lies between the bluffs above Napili Beach and D.T. Fleming (past the Ritz Carlton massive hotel and condo complex). It winds its way through some rocky lava outcroppings and passes some sacred grounds set aside for Hawaiian ancestral & spiritual purposes.
Sometimes we've seen whales from this view point. This has always been a favorite walk for us. It is highly recommended for its beauty and rugged terrain.

If you don’t mind the sound of lawn mowers and leaf blowers then you’ll like this hike. The coastal views are beautiful but it’s not surprisingly surrounded by condos.
Took some beautiful coastal photos though!

This was a pretty easy hike and it offered some beautiful views of the ocean crashing on rocks. But the best part was we saw a ton of breaching whales out in the ocean. We also saw turtles swimming. Great time!

Highly recommend - this walk is as easy or as difficult as you would like. We didn't have a car the first week of our trip so we took public transit to start at Dragon's teeth. We explored all the off-paths and enjoyed the cooling breeze from the ocean on this otherwise sunny and hot day. Start early! We ended at Kapalua Bay but did not snorkle there - although you easily could. Saw a sea turtle in one of the coves..stunning scenery overall. Great morning activity!

Disappointed that Kapalua resorts now charges for parking at the Kapalua coastal trail entrances.
You need a cell phone to be able to pay the $29 plus tax. Flat fee for parking.
🌺💔

The walk was...fine. No dogs allowed. Some of the views were nice. There was a lot of walking in and around condos. Absolutely zero parking and we were there in the morning. The beaches were the most crowded ones we have seen around here. Skip it unless you’re already in the area

Walked this trail every morning during our visit. Simply beautiful walking path and hike. Part paved path, sand and rock path, boardwalk. Wear sneakers not flip flops. Plenty of room to run (unlike Wailea costal path which is narrower and jammed with people). Very friendly people along trail. Pass Montage and Ritz. Gorgeous views of Kapalua Beach.

This is a moderate walk as it does have a few steep inclines, depending upon the time of day, a hat and sun screen would be good choices, definitely sun glasses and field glasses. We went in the morning and did see dolphins and humpback whales and the extra range of the field glasses would have given us a better view.

This a great trail I’d recommend it to anyone that can walk good for kids! Really don’t need anything special to do this trail
Well worth your time

It’s a nice, relatively short, but quite scenic trail that was the most enjoyable around sunset. Minimal areas were challenging, though I wouldn’t necessarily do it in flip flops. One of the highlights was dreaming of how the wealthy people live in the amazing adjoining gated communities. Great trail to soak in the good Maui life.

Comfortable stroll along coast and three to four bays and four wonderful beaches. Excellent walk and views and very small areas where there is much strain at all — beautiful lava coves with lots of wave action and just gorgeous views of coast line

We left our condo in Kahana at 6:30 am and drove to the south trailhead parking lot. We were only the second car in the lot - which was great, since it's a small lot.
The beginning of our walk was amazing - sun came up and there was hardly anyone on the trail. We went past the Ritz-Carlton and the Dragon's Teeth/ labyrinth. The way back was like another world - lots of people (the trail is easily accessible by various nearby resorts) and it was getting hot by 8:30 or 9 am.
The scenery is fabulous, the surf is powerful, and the trail is easy (aside from a few sections where it's not very wheelchair- or stroller-accessible, a portion of the trail is actually paved). You can walk out on the lava rocks but many people seemed to be way too close to the edge - the waves crash on those rocks and could be quite dangerous if you're too close.
There are a few coves and beaches along the trail, which are great for snorkeling if you bring your gear and a picnic.
Take lots of water. There are restrooms at some of the beaches along the route.
Five stars for a beautiful, easy walk - minus one star for the crowds that you have to strategize to avoid. Go early and begin your hike at the crack of dawn.

Nice walk of about 3km each way (you double back). Amazing crashing waves on the rocks near the end. Pretty easy walk with a short rocky area.

We enjoyed this trail's vantage points to witness the fury of unusually high surf during winter storms in Feb. 2019. As huge sets rolled in, deafening explosions were produced when the waves crashed into the tall lava cliffs, exploding into high, foamy sprays, then reduced into a fine spray that traveled in the winds well beyond the Kapalua coastline. The cauldron of raging, foamy seas resembled the contents of a giant, agitating washing machine.
While on the trail on quieter, normal days, take special note of the lovely birds in the nesting areas. Stay on the path at all times to not disturb the nests.
Awesome sandy beaches, beautiful coastline with bright turquoise water, terrific snorkeling areas, good restrooms at the western trailhead. Get there by 8:30 a.m., or later in the afternoon for a chance to nab a parking space in the free lots.

We didn't hike it but we passed some of the trailheads and accessed some beautiful beaches near them. Traffic has returned to Maui and it is getting overcrowded like it was precovid. If you want to visit Maui, go soon before it's over run again with tourists. It was busy, but still manageable.

My wife and I loved this walk. If you park by 8am you can get a spot in the little parking lot for Kapalua Bay Beach / Merriman's. Otherwise, parking is tough...it's so popular there due to its beauty. Get out and start your day walking along the Maui coast, it's wonderful.

Took a sunset walk here. Not a hike but a nice paved walkway with plenty of opportunities to get off track; literally! We parked at kapalua and walked 2/3 of the trail.

The Kapalua Coastal Trail is a beautiful stretch of coastline to explore. There are many areas to park along the main road, but by mid morning, those areas are already starting to fill up. There are several very beautiful scenic views where you can stop along the way to get some nice photos.

Enjoyed this hike. It was our first day on Maui and hadn’t fully recovered from our 6 hour time difference. The path was way to follow and the scenery was beautiful.

Beautiful. easy walk along the cost and out onto the lava flows. So much to see, and so awesome. We will return...

Hike barely straightforward. You’ve been a couple of paved areas and boardwalk areas just a few spots that you have to climb over some rocks beautiful views of the coast saw jumping fish and whales highly recommended.

Unique lava rock formation, located a short walk around the golf course; great view of Molokai and the NW Maui coast.

Beautiful trail along the rugged coast weaving thru a couple of deluxe resorts. Full sun, plenty of sea birds, crashing waves, volcanic rock, what more could you ask?

Easy and beautiful hike. Take your camera for some breathtaking moments! Loved the two beaches and the coast line beauty

Beautiful easy trail, very accessible. Be sure to take water and sunscreen as sea breeze makes it feel cooler than it is. Easy to get sun burnt

This trail affords beautiful views. You can walk the length and back, or go for a shorter distance and turn around. Parking is a bit of a pain, but worth the trouble. Go early in the day for free parking at the southern end of the trail and bring some water. Good information is on line. Because we walked the trail in "whale season" we had some great views of their activity.

stayed at the Kapalua bay villas, easy access to the trail, beautiful walk, we were there when there was a major storm and i never seen waves crashing that big, amazing. Not an easy walk, pretty rocky and lots of ups and down. A must when you are in Kapalua

We enjoyed the easy paved hike along the resorts before heading to a more secluded area where we got to explore the rocky shoreline. The ocean views were gorgeous and it was quite enjoyable just to see the waves crash in.

We did portions of the trail starting at the east end once, then walked from the center west another time. Good trail, can be very windy and you should bring water as it will be warm

We walked this almost everyday. It's not very long and it's fairly easy and flat, almost anyone could do it. Beautiful views, you'll pass 3 different beaches, resort areas, bird nesting ground. Some sharp lava areas, so good soled shoes are wise, as is water and sunscreen. Gets pretty crowded though, and parking can be problematic if you have to come from a different area of the island.

I ran this trail along my longer out-and-back long run while vacationing in Maui. The trail is in great condition and not too crowded in the early morning. there is an alternate "loop" which goes out onto the rocky peninsula which has some very nice ocean views when you go out to the end. A bit tricky to find the starting point near the restaurant/resort at the South end, because there was construction going on right at the parking area at the time. The resorts it runs through are very nice and Flemming Beach at the North end is a nice beach.

This was more like a walking path the first half. Then it was more rugged going along the coast thru lava rock to the beach. The beach was nice for boogie boarding but then it’s a tough walk back to Kapalua carrying everything. I felt this was an exposed walk versus a hike.

Great trail to walk and take in plenty of fresh air. Can be crowded but walks along the lava rocks, overlooks the water which is clear. Could see turtles in the water from above! This is a must do. Parking lot is VERY SMALL. Only a handful of cars can fit, then a short walk down to the trail. Go left or right, you can't go wrong with either direction.

The Kapalua Coastal Trail provide a most enjoyable walking opportunity with scenic views all around continuously. The trail is very well maintained and is very popular. We went on only a portion of the trail and thoroughly enjoyed the ocean views and the vegetation. A worthwhile trail to spend time on while in Maui.

My daughter (and husband) loved the hiking near our hotel and this trail was a favorite. Beautiful scenery along the rocky shore!

Good parking, great snorkeling, lovely beach with shade and beautiful coastal beach walk. Must do!,,

We were lucky enough to be able to walk to the trail; free access parking is limited, but you can pay to park up at the country club. Nice walk past Kapalua Beach, Dragon's Teeth and beyond. Seemed to be wheel chair accessable most of the first sections.

This coastal walk was one of the highlights of our trip to Maui. It was a wonderful walk that showcased the beauty and ruggedness of the Hawaiian shore while impressing with the resorts and houses along the way. Definitely worth your time to include this walk in your itinerary!

Beautiful trail. We thought it was going to be all paved, but was not, lots of dirt and rocks, so wear sneakers. I was surprised you could get to the end of the rocks, and wasn't blicked off. Stay where it's dry and you'll be safe.

If you’re staying at the Ritz-Carlton, you can easily walk at least part of the trail. You’ll pass some interesting rock outcrops and at least one beautiful beach. We didn’t do the whole thing for the sake of time, but what we saw was pretty.

Nice walk along the coast. Be prepared for a lot of people, even at the crack of dawn, and power walkers and runners. Nice way to start the day but don't expect to be alone.

We hiked the Kapalua coastal trail in Nov, 2018 and loved the scenery. The hike starts at Kapalua bay, a popular spot for snorkeling. Along the trail, you get to see the blue waters with huge waves crashing against the rocks, three beaches, resorts, villas and much more. Don't forget the sunscreen, coolers and hat if you're doing it mid morning or afternoon. You might spot whales during the whale season.

Walked the trail early in the morning as there is not much shade but awesome coastal views! Very easy, walked with two young kids.

Easy hike to wander along the west coast of Maui. We passed gorgeous resort properties and wild waves along lava rock. We were lucky enough to see a Hawaiian Monk seal lounging on the rocks below us!

Easy trail along the coastline here - just be aware it abuts private property from the Montage so make sure you stick to the trail. In total it should take about two hours, depending on how much time you want to spend in the wildlife sanctuary there. We saw green sea turtles having lunch along the rock faces so it naturally took a LOT longer than we expected.

You can't go wrong here. Some of the most amazing photo opportunities anywhere, this is very cool. Take your camera. Be aware of the potential danger of some spots where the protection comes from common sense.

Great views of the coast with some nice tide pools along the way. Keep an eye out for sea turtles as well. Nice during sunset.

This place was gorgeous and I highly recommend visiting here. Very easy hike to do and absolutely worth it

Start at Kapalua bay and make your way past the resorts to the rough and rocky coastline. You will see the waves crashing on the lava and experience beautiful Oneloa beach on your way past the Ritz to DT Flemming beach. Easy enough to walk in slippers and for all fitness levels.

A great hike along the West Maui coast by Kapalua and Ironwoods Beach. If you are lucky and there is always a chance to observe the sea turtles swimming in the bay.

I wanted to make this hike while visiting because of all the great reviews and it wasn't too far from where we were staying. Well, you need to get there early in the morning because there is very limited parking at the main entrance area as well at the other smaller parking locations throughout the hike. This meant we had to park on the street and walk in which I wouldn't have cared about except there was construction going on and the road was shut down to one lane. We had to get around heavy equipment and cars going the wrong way. Don't even think about parking where it says "No Parking" because they are serious. There is someone there writing citations and placing red stickers on your vehicle. (If you have a rental car that's not going to go over very well with your rental company)
Once we got there and started the hike it was definitely very pretty but the hike sort of stops at a residence and then you make your way into a residential street and according to the map you have to walk through the neighborhood to get to the end. Well, I can walk in a neighborhood in my own town. We turned around there. Although it's pretty, you can find amazing views of the ocean just about anywhere on the island. If you are looking for a basic walk along a coastline then this is for you. If you are looking for something that's a little more a workout then skip it.

This is a mostly well traveled trail but the south end has more rocky shore access. Note the terrain is varied but provides great beach access. Not suitable for wheelchairs as there are stairs and not recommended with pets either. Some portion goes through resorts so not so much like a trail feeling on paved golf cart portions but beautiful. Note the restrooms are not public and few between the ends so plan accordingly and respect the signage.

This trail is pretty easy and the views are just stunning!...waves crashing on the rocks and blue blue water. You also walk by some very beautiful resorts/condos. This is worth seeing.

I'm glad I found this on TripAdvisor. I rented a car in Maui and walked from the Pride of America pier. It was a nice trail and not too challenging - perfect after doing some waterfall hikes and Diamond Head in Oahu (whew!). We saw some nesting birds and a turtle off the coast. I'd post pictures but mine look the same as what's here.
It was a little difficult to find even with navigation but we lucked out in the little parking lot. After, it was a short drive to Front Street.

Gorgeous views of the ocean and beautiful Hawaiian geography. Somewhat hilly - not a mostly flat paved path like the Wailea beachfront trail.

Beautiful spot along the ocean. Very diverse but an easy trail to follow. Go early because the parking gets crowded after 10 am

The Coastal Trail is less than 2 miles but takes you along a short boardwalk after accessing beyond the Ritz Carlton. Parking is free but tight at the beach park. And you’ll nee to walk up the hilly and grassy area before accessing in private property. It’s an impressive jaunt through a Bird nature area and views of rocky cliffs and awesome water breaks. Plus, you’ll go by the impressive Montage Bay

My wife and I took the 1.76 mile trail and found the scenery beautiful. There are some rocky places on the path, so wear shoes with tread or traction. I wouldn’t wear flippers. Take your camera for some great photos and you might want to bring water along with you. The sights are most beautiful and there is something new to see around every corner.

Beautiful view on rugged trail. Wouldn’t consider this a hike. It’s more of a stroll with a couple of rocky areas on pathway. Wear sneakers, not sandals.

A wonderful trail to see the volcanic formation cliffs along the beaches. The beginning section is a sidewalk that runs alongside the Ritz Carlton hotel and then turns into a parking lot to the left where you will find monuments for ancient burials that are close by. Follow the red dirt trail(very muddy if it has rained) to the Dragon teeth made from volcanic rock then back to the trail and take your next right into the beach access. Trail heads to the left and runs alongside a bird sanctuary and then into more volcanic rock formations and eventually dead ends as concrete stairs. Good way to see nature and take some nice photos. It rained today when we hiked but it was still manageable. I walked in Earth Runner sandals and my husband wore No Bull All Day shoes; both held up great and were able to be rinsed (red dirt) before getting back into the car.

The Kapalua Coastal Trail is perfect for the casual hiker. There is a perfect mixture of sidewalks, lava rocks, hills and beautiful ocean views. Every visit we hike the trail a few times. This year we parked at D.T. Fleming Beach and walked in the direction of Kapalua Bay. Seems to be more free parking available at the Beach.

We saved this to our last morning. We went about 7:00 before it gets crowded. High Tide. It was amazing. We saw amazing waves, water crashing into rocks, and whales. We were not disappointed. Great way to finish our stay.

What a great drive this is. A little curvy, so mind the speed limit signs, but there is beauty on both sides of the car every inch of the way.

This is quite a ways up the coast of Maui, and the walk itself can take as much as an hour. But it's well worth it; beautiful, rugged scenery

Easy 1.5-mile hiking trail in Kapalua offering spectacular coastal views. After hiking on the Dragon’s Teeth Trail to Makaluapuna Point, I made this hike all around to Kapalua Bay Beach. I spent an hour on the trail, but I stopped multiple times for photos as the views of the coastline are spectacular. Along the way, you will pass by beautiful Oneloa Beach and the stunning Ironwood Cliffs. Although the trail can be rocky in parts, it is an easy hike as there is little elevation change. The most challenging aspect of the hike is that it can be very windy so hold on to your hat. Amazingly it was not very busy despite being so close to the popular areas of Kapalua and Ka'anapali Beach. So much reward for so little effort. Parking options are limited and unfortunately, I understand that they are now charging $29 to park near the eastern trailhead. I was staying at the Sheraton on Ka'anapali Beach and used the free West Maui Shuttle that leaves hourly throughout the day and brings you to the Ritz Carlton which is near the starting point for this hike. It also leaves from the Westin and Hyatt. When completing the hike at Kapalua Bay Beach, I was able to ride the West Maui Express Bus #29 for $2 back to the Sheraton. It picks up near the Seahorse Restaurant.

Nice walk on marked paths partly along the stunning West Maui coastline. Parts were quite uneven so good footwear is needed and is not recommended for anyone who is not good on their feet. Nice to watch Whales and Turtles out at sea whilst walking.

Beautiful walk along the ocean. We started at Dragon's Teeth, and walked to Namalu Bay. Can be little challenging, but with the proper shoes, it shouldn't be any problem for most people. The views are stunning. Beautiful wildflowers along the way.

The Kapalua Coastal Trail is really two types of trail. The section nearest Kapalua Beach is a meandering paved path the winds between the beach and a few resorts. Not much nature here. However, it crosses a street then immediately becomes more rugged. Not scared rugged, just dirt and some lava rugged. If you have mobility issues, I'd stop here. The path then winds toward DT Fleming Beach. It's windier and the surf is more rugged. But there are far fewer crowds then Kapalua Beach.

We walked this beautiful scenic hike one afternoon on the recommendation from a friend after driving north from Kapaa, parking, and picking up the trail near the Ritz Carlton. We hiked south along the Kapalua coastline with stunning beach, cove, homes, and ocean views. We saw homes, Merriman Maui restaurant and snorkelers. Not difficult, but wear good shoes, bring water & watch your footing & the winds the further you go out on the rocks at one point. Highly recommended.

Check conditions before heading out. We didn't get to see all the trail as they were pulling lose rocks. We did get to view some of the trail and see sea turtles and surfers. Still worth the trek.

Loved the hike, peaceful and beautiful my grandson loved going down along the rock.Looking for seashells and crabs. We did see turtles.

Looking for a nice walk/hike.Finally found trail head, not easy (internet patchy in most areas). At a resort, walked on paved path to a beach, seamed to be end of trail,no signs.Thought there should be more, got back to our hotel and realized from pictures we missed alot.Still don’t know which way to have gone once we got to beach .Oh well ,will try another one.

When in West Maui, you simply must walk the Kapalua Coastal Trail. It’s accessible to nearly everyone and along the way you’ll see gorgeous coves.
At one point, in front of the Montage, we watched tourists having a great time jumping off a small cliff into the ocean.
We stopped for a beer and a salad at the Montage pool bar and enjoyed a break from the heat. The grounds are gorgeous as well.
The trail is a curious combination of hiking trail and upscale homes, hotels and restaurants. You’re never far from a place to spends gobs of money.
The trail itself is free.

Stop and see the coast, swim at Kapalua Baby Beach and snorkel while you're there. Down the road is the Seahorse Cafe which makes a great breakfast.

The trail is beautiful, one side is ocean view, the another side is beautiful plants and flowers. The trail has some section with up hill and down hill, but it's relative easy.

The Kapalua Coastal Trail is gorgeous! If you enjoy the beach and walk/hiking outdoors then this is a must do. One of the very best coastal trails I have ever walked.

Make sure to take the time to do this walk. Beautiful trail and gorgeous views! Not completely flat; watch your footing in some areas and some slight inclines. Saw whales along the way. Rock formations ('Dragons Teeth') were cool to see.

This is a very easy walk even in flip flops. The view is amazing, you can walk out to the edges of the cliffs, see sea turtles, and finish at the beach swimming. There is absolutely no shade along the hike so cover up and bring plenty of water.

We visited this trail one day after finding it in my guidebook (Fodor's Maui) and weren't expecting it to be much other than a little walking path. However this was awesome! It goes along multiple beaches and over a lava rock cliff which we mistakenly though was the Dragon's Teeth which ended up being a good thing as this one is extremely similar and not sacred. My family spent probably an hour on the rocks just climbing around and finding new amazing ocean views. We had a great time and would definiately recommend that you go walk on this trail. It is not hard, but sure is fun! There are a few spots where there are some awkward footing or steep drops so be very careful if you are not great with walking. Parking is tricky unless you get there extremely early so I would recommend parking at the Kapalua Bay tennis courts across the street. The fee is $10 and it is good for a whole day. It is much less hectic than the parking lots by the beach and there is not a time limit.

This is a relaxing non-strenuous ocean front stroll with amazing views. It's nearly flat and good to do on a lazy day or for those who aren't into more challenging outings. One can park at DT Fleming Beach Park (very popular and hard to find parking) at one end or near the Merriman's Restaurant at the other end. The walk takes you past some large homes, high-end resorts (with opportunities to stop for a break). Certainly suggest it if you're in the area.

This is a great hike for couples or for the whole family. Most of it is paved and it follows the beach, between the water and the resorts. This is mostly very easy terrain and can be done in beach shoes, although Keen-style, closed-toe sandals would be best.

This was a really nice walk! Great views and waves crashing hard into the rocks were a great sight. Easy to do in an hour or so, but worth slowing down and taking your time.

Beautiful coastal trail! My husband and I walked this. I recommend Tevas or hiking shoes for the rocks/dirt trail parts. It was easy and so nice! It took us about an hour and a half from Merrimans to DT Fleming and back, maybe less. Wear a bathing suit to jump in the water at DT Fleming to cool off. I ended up jumping in, in my clothes.

The shoreline is breathtaking from this trail. You really get immersed into West Maui's beauty and are still not far from the resorts.

The Kapalua Trail runs south along the coastal path from the Ritz Carleton parking lot. Th scenery is gorgeous, the walk is gentle and for the most part flat. But bring running or hiking shoes. You have the option of walking the trail, or along the road. The hike ends at Merriman's restaurant at Napili, which is a great place to swim and snorkel as the bay is sheltered. There are always great views of whales from the beach. Walking back from Napili along the road will take you quickly back to the start of the hike. But don't forget to take the walk north down the Ritz Carleton golf course path, as it ends at the beach and the Beach restaurant called Burger Shack that serves the most decadent milkshakes known to mankind, We had the Kona Coffee shake.....and put back on all the calories we lost on the walk, but enjoyed every last taste! Their burgers and fish tacos are also amazing. Enjoy it....

A very nice way to walk the Maui coast. Terrain varies and much of the path is paved. A couple nice beaches along the way to bathe, snorkel or sun. Quite short, so good for kids or seniors.

What a beautiful walk along the coast. In some places it is very rocky, and you feel like you could be walking on the moon---except the ocean is right there. Not a difficult walk, but glad we were not wearing flip-flops

If you get a chance to walk this two mile trail in NW Maui, don't pass it up. The coastline is rugged and beautiful. There is a well worn path away from the trial to get to a rock-jumping ledge - one is about 10 feet and another 17 feet or so. You'll see many locals there if school is not in session. Our kids jumped from the lower platform and enjoyed the water.
Great place to hike.

Great hike and views. Relatively easy trail. Some inclines and rocks but basically easy and very pretty.

Easy to walk trail with wonderful views of the ocean. Took some wonderful pictures along this trail.

This is the first time we’ve hiked this trail even though we’ve been to Maui many times. Glad we did. Beautiful day. Views were breathtaking. Hike wasn’t difficult. Took lots of photos. We were apparently lucky enough to get the one open spot in the parking lot. We plan to return next year.

First time walking the Kapalua Coastal Trail. The views are spectacular and the beach amazing! Lots of places to stop along the trail to take photos!

We spent a week at the Kapalua Bay Villas and walked this trail daily. You won't find a better sunset than along this trail near the Montage Resort. Pick a chair in the grassy area and enjoy the breathtaking views. While you are in that area of the trail, check for the local cliff jumpers near cliff house. Keep going toward Kapalua Bay Villas and take time to walk out onto the lava rocks. Keep your eyes on the water if you are there during whale season....we saw so many every day during our visit just offshore. Oneloa beach is a great place to catch some smaller waves or keep going towards the Ritz Carlton where you will find Dragon's teeth lava formation and DT fleming beach. Stay for lunch at the Burger Shack - its fabulous for burgers and shakes. Fun atmosphere.

This trail is beautiful but if you have any disabilities it will not be accessible. Great place to watch surfing though

Beautiful scenic trail (3.5 mile RT) that starts at Kapalua Bay and winds north along the coastline to Namalu Bay, the Ritz Carlton Hotel and Honokahua Bay (Fleming Beach) The views are fabulous! The Kapalua Coastal Trail is the only walk in America that both starts and finishes on a beach that has been voted "Best Beach in America." Note: The rocky Namalu Bay lava field is where Hawaiian seabirds nest (protected for breeding).

This trail is stunning!! A relatively flat trail with many access points and stunning views. Right along the ocean with some portion on a built up boardwalk. We walked it in the morning and the evening and both times were lovely and not overly crowded. I can’t recommend this trail enough. Lovely!

Best view ever! February you see a lot of whales just hanging out! Rent a car for sure and take a drive

We walked most of the trail, but it’s a bit long on a hot day. The shorter way back to our starting location was on the road, which had little shade. The portion going south from Ironwoods to Kapalua Bay is the nicest and it’s mostly along the ocean. We’ll marked. Worth a visit.

Beautiful walk along the shoreline. Gives you a feel for the power of the waves, and the uniqueness of the tide pools. Fairly easy to walk, the trail is well marked. We were staying at a condo nearby and accessed the trail easily.

This is more of a walk than a hike. Enjoyed the diversions of the dragon's teeth 'peninsula'. Well marked. The blue skies we had that day added to the wonder of our experience. Kapalua is amazing!!

This would be a great experience if it wasn't for how crowded it was. Even on a weekday there were dozens of other people. It spoiled the natural beauty to have to constantly be dodging selfies...

30 minute hike, nice views with nearby parking. Will be muddy after rains. Do the loop entirely- worth the walk.

I was very happy that I got up early on our last day in Maui and walked the coastal trail. There was a light rain but it didn't matter. The trail walks beside very nice condos but you can easily ignore them and focus on the much better views on the other side. Don't miss this one. Also, it starts a great beach and snorkeling is best in the morning!

This relatively easy coastal trail gives you some gorgeous views of the coast of Maui! Make sure you climb out onto some of the volcanic rock outcroppngs for photo ops that will not disappoint!

We walked the entire trail, back and forth, bit more thatn 3 miles round trip. Wasn't crazy about walking through resorts, but walking along the cliffs with the gorgeous breaking waves was wonderful, it's a lovely hike and so very accessible, with nice beaches at either end of the hike!

Nothing steep or difficult about this trail. Makes for a nice walk plenty to see and fairly well marked.

This was a pleasant experience and nice view of the coastline. Saw some unusual lava rock formations and the best part of the hike was to see several HUGE sea turtles eating off the sea walls below us.
These turtles were approximately 3 to 4 feet in sizes.
The hike is easy and beautiful.
I would recommend it for anyone any age and any skill level. Great for families.

Loved this easy hike. Parking was tough to find ... very small parking lot or few street parking spots. Waited about 10 minutes and spot opened up. Hike itself was pretty flat, and views along the coast were beautiful. Beaches, hiking over lava, great views. Definitely recommend for anyone.

So much beautiful scenery on the walk. The waves crashing again the rocks and the water for eternity.

Amazing sights. Cant say much more than this. We didnt do the full trail - it was INCREDIBLY WINDY with intermittent rain today so we got as far as Onelelu (sp?) Beach and turned around and came back. A little bit of nature, wildlife, scenic viewpoints, history. Very neat !

If you walk/hike here, I'd recommend going during cooler temperatures--or be prepared for a lot of sun! (We underestimated the heat/sun on a warm day.) It's a nice paved walk with a variety of beautiful scenery.

We enjoyed the Kapula Coastal trail, especially the scenic views. It is a bit more strenuous than most of the descriptions, as there are uphill sections and many rocky parts. We only went about halfway, as it was a hot day. Make sure you wear a hat and bring water. Bathrooms are available at the Kapula Beach parking area. We had to park on the street, due to the parking lot being full.

Both ends of the Kapalua coastal trail now have a $29 flat rate parking fee.
So unless you’re in the Ritz Carlton and can walk to the trail head on Office Road you are screwed
Great idea Maui County

A nice path along the Kapalua coast and through the grounds of one of the nicer luxury hotels in the Kapalua area. Not overly strenuous but there are a few sections in lava areas; I suggest not wearing flip flops here. Trail is well marked. Got to see sea turtles in a little cove along the way.

This is a really easy trail which is well signed and pretty flat. There is no shade however so take water and sun cream. There are several really pretty bays and beaches, and you walk past some lovely houses/resorts. There are toilets towards Napoli Bay but not at the end near Oneloa Beach.

The area is beautiful,. Some of the trail is paved but there is also a dirt/rocky area. We were there during bird eating g and was very educational to watch the volunteers stick their arms in to the hole to tag the birds.

One of the most beautiful hiking paths on Lahaina. Along the way we saw the gorgeous coastline and were able to see the whales breaching further out in the bay. This trail is a lavish buffet for the eyes and not to strenuous. A must if you visit Lahaina.

Not a long trail but a nice stroll for awesome views of the coastline, a series of rocky or sandy beach coves. There are some other hiking options, go to one of the Kapalua help desks for a map.

Walk as far as you want on this view trail that has free parking spots on either end and also in the middle.

This walk is a mix of bust near the resorts & beaches and more secluded as you reach the gravel trail. The lava rock formations are beautiful & the ocean view is fantastic. The path isn’t entirely flat, so it brought a mild challenge which was nice.

There are now 6 pay parking lots near the entrances to the Kapalua Coastal trail.
Their rates range from $19 to $29 plus tax per day. The lots are numbered and on the Parklinq map. 808-517-5017 for questions. We had a lot of questions.
The coastal path is a beautiful walk. We started at the Napili-Kapalua end in lot 200. $29 . We quit at the Dragons Tooth lot. We did not walk down the Ritz Carlton lawn to D T Fleming beach .
Saw lots of professional photographers along the path photographing brides and grooms. Not too much wind on the day we went.

I have to say the the best sunset I have ever scene was at a little pull-out on this road. Just amazing. Be very careful when driving around the many many curves on the road. Oncoming traffic can come at you quickly.

The Kapalua Coastal Trail was the most memorable natural experience we had on Maui. The scenery was gorgeous and we were able to spot turtles playing in the waves along the coastline. It was hot, sunny, gorgeous and windy.

Loved hiking on this trail. It’s rocky, but the views are worth it. Not good if you are wearing sandals, recommend at least tennis shoes to climb over the rocky areas.

This is a awesome walk, gets a little crowded after 8 AM to 10 AM. Be cautious of the uneven rocky parts, not recommended for anyone challenged by a uneven trail. Stop often and take in the sights.

If you are just looking to walk, not hike the path in front of the Montage is short, a little hill, but able to do in flip flops and the view of the beach is beautiful. If you want to a little further you can go just beyond the Montage onto the coastal trails. The one way in and out is out over the cliff house point and not recommended in flip flops, tennis shoes are fine and requires just a bit of rocky up and downs but the views are worth it. If you are looking for a longer trail you can go on the trail the right that goes in front of the Ritz Carlton, Dragon Teeth and beyond. I stopped for many photos and detours, check other reviews to see how long they took. It. Is an easy hike on uneven ground, with amazing views.

My family and I were on vacation in Maui (in the Lahaina area) and were looking for a spot to take our girls (5 & 7) out for an easy hike/walk where we could also take in some of the natural beauty of the coastline. The Kapalua Coastal Trail was exactly what we were looking for. It's a mostly flat walking trail that offers views of the beach, rock formations, flowers, plants and birds. There is beach access and a spot to go cliff diving. It takes 1.5-2 hours to explore the entire trial if you take your time and take it all in. Parking is free.

This hike can be as short or long as you wish. There are many points to leave the trail and return along the road. Breath taking views. It is very exposed and can be subject to wind. I recommend tennis shoes, but saw many people doing the walk in open toed shoes.

Took our digital camera and enjoyed the volcanic remains in the valley and shores. Water colors were intense.

Short hike if desired and the views along the boardward were absolutely breathtaking
You can hike a little more and go to the Dragon's teeth and see a labyrinth on the way too.
Beautiful sunsets from this area.

Find the time to explore this trail. Every step can be a picture. I watched sea turtles swimming in a cove from high above. The rock formations are breathtaking. And suddenly there is a hardly used beach. If on Maui this is a must see then go relax on the beach.

This was an easy hike along the beautiful coastline. It didn’t take long and we were lucky to score parking. A lot of hikers were bringing snorkel gear. We wore our swimsuits and took a dip/jump into the bay at the end. Wear tennis shoes! Leave the flips flops at home for now.

I LOVE this walk from Kapalua Beach to DT Fleming beach. Beautiful scenery! Wear sturdy shoes and go in the morning before it gets to hot. Need food after? Go to the Kapalua Store - they have a great deli. The hot pastrami sandwich is outstanding.

Took a morning hike along the Kapalua Coastal Trail. The hike was fairly easy, a few rocky parts but not bad. It is about 3 miles overall. The scenery and view of the ocean and beaches was spectacular! Highly recommend if you like to hike!

Beach was as advertised, rocky and more populated then when we were here 20 years ago. Great views from atop the bluff and the hike to the blowhole easy enough. Biggest drawback is the limited parking. We went on a Wednesday in mid-October and had to circle to find a spot

Fabulous, paved trail along the ocean. Easy to walk, easy to access from Kapalua Bay parking lot...but get there before 8:30am to find a “free” parking spot!

We had a great time on this trail walk. If you trek into the shrubbery, watch your feet for centipedes as their bite can be pretty nasty. We saw one girl get bit. At the end of the trail at the resort, you will find washrooms and a nice place to rest and grab a drink on the high stools outside in a nice landscape. Only problem is the cocktails are much too expensive.

We really enjoyed this hike and did it several times. Easy hike but really pretty. Has several different views depending on hotel or coast or boardwalk.

On a very windy day, we walked out to the point and back; very nice walk, great vistas of the ocean and the coast.

Did it last month. Loved all the rock formations and the ocean crashing against them. Recommend it. Also saw that they have around the area protection for birds.

This part of the Northwest Maui coast is beautiful and rugged; not all of it is "trail"; some being more a "sidewalk walk" as you meander next to the upscale condo developments of Kapalua

This is a very runnable (or hike able) trail overlooking some amazing sites along the ocean. It is not extremely strenuous and I would recommend this hike to any and all.

We started this trail at both ends of the trail on different days. One day we were at Kapalua, so we walked a bit from that way. Since we had all of our beach gear, surfing, etc. we decided to wait and go from the Fleming side a different day. That day we parked, and began walking, trying to find the trail. There is one part that hooks down off of a street down towards the beach. Everything we saw in the cul-de-sacs in areas the trail is supposed to be wouldn’t let us through. Everything was marked private. It is not a clearly marked trail and we ended up just walking the road all the way back to Kapalua which was not something I wanted to do. I understand the beaches are public, but trying to get onto this trail from the Fleming side was really difficult because it was poorly marked and wove through private areas that we did not feel comfortable to walk through. Instead, it was just a walk down the street.

Amazing views and a relatively easy hike. When walking on the lava rocks the hike can get a little tougher. The pictures taken don’t do the views justice. Get there early to ensure you can get a parking spot.

I’m thoroughly glad that we elected to do this walk, as it was beautiful and pleasant. I am 6-months pregnant and despite my being very active I was reluctant to do any challenging hike; however, this 2-mile trek was ideal.

The Coastal Ridge part is relatively easy to traverse. Once you get to the Mahana Ridge Trail, the terrain is different-some steep sections. Several sections of rock to climb, but it is doable. Good trail shoes are a plus as well as water and sunscreen.

This great and natural trail was easy and the views are stunning. We walked it on a perfectly glorious day.

If you're looking for a fairly short but spectacular hike along the coastline, this is it! After a picnic on the beach nearby, we walked along the Ritz Carlton golf course to reach the trail. There is a labyrinth out on the point that invites quiet contemplation on this ancient Hawaiian site. Don't miss the "Dragon's Teeth"-- take your time and enjoy the views.

Great walk along the coast. The very beginning is good for different mobility levels but eventually it turns into a dirt and rock path. Many different bays and beaches with surfers, turtles, rock jumping and snorkeling along the way. We parked near Napili Bay.

And most secluded beaches. Can be rough surf but some primo snorkeling. Also walk to the Beach Bar at the Ritz and have a burger and Lava Flow. Check out the Labyrinth!

There is a small parking lot at the entry, be sure to map it. Parking is free and not on the road. From there a nice walk along the coast. There are a number of bird nesting areas where they burrow into the ground. We saw a few nestlings all around. Pretty fun.

Our boys had a blast cliff diving just follow the trail to the left! We saw so many sea turtles and crabs, so fun!!!

Windy day at this lovely view point! Amazing rock formations and scenery. Uneven walking/ rock scramble, especially if wet/ muddy, so wear real shoes to avoid injury.

The condition of the trail was exceptional. Help of mother nature we had spectacular weather. Trail was well marked, and maps are available on the trail. I would recommend this trail, we did a morning walk, and it was already warm.

The 5 Parking lots along the Kapalua Coastal Trail recently started charging $29 a visit.
This is now all digital pay parking for Parklinq for visitors to park on the Kapalua land.
We saw 5 parkling lots all managed by Parklinq and the violators are towed . No overnight parking.
D T Fleming Park is the north end of the Kapalua Coastal trail.
The complete trail is 1.76 miles.
There are different parking options at DT Fleming Beach Park. There is Parklinq for $29 .
Or approximately 20 free County parking spot in a lot., 20 picnic tables , shower, restrooms and a lifeguard in this 3.4 acre park.
Talk to the lifeguard as there are tricky undertows. This is the north terminus of the coastal trail walk.
The coastal trail is a dirt walk along the Kapalua coastline. A little slippery in parts.

I love Kapalua Coastal Trail, it's wild, the ocean is roaring at your feet, you get to enjoy its intensity, beauty and feel very vulnerable as you experience its strength and power. Pretty awesome!

We had no problems trekking along this trail but there are areas that would be very difficult for those who are unstable on their feet. It was a beautiful walk with scenic views. I highly recommend.

Beautiful easy walking trail past beaches, rocky coastline, and nature preserves. Great views across to Molokai.
We are adventures, so we clambered down to some tide pools and also jumped off the big rocks on Namalu Bay into the ocean.
The jumping here is better than black rock because it is easier to get up there and to have your stuff nearby. Lots of kids and adults jumping from various heights. Kinda a party vibe.

Great hike, love the views from the trail. No whales this time of year but the views are tremendous. A must when we are in the Napili area.

What a beautiful way to get in a good hike! The trail goes through beautiful lava rocks, natural areas that birds are nesting, beaches, and by beautiful coastal homes. The ocean breeze helps to keep you from getting over heated. I love this trail and will make it a must do while visiting Maui!

The Kapalua Bay is wonderful Great little trail that follows the coastline. On a great sunny day you may get lucky and spot whales, if it's the right time of year. Usually a bit windy, but pleasant. Easy trail for the entire family.

Limited shade on this walk, but totally worth it, if only just one section! I parked on the north side, theres a parking lot on the corner of Kapalua Place and Ridge Rd. The trail down to Oneloa beach is at the west side of the parking area.
There is a lovely boardwalk section that takes you past some lovely views of Oneloa Beach, and then it turns to dirt trail and gets a bit more rocky (going further west). Wear good walking shoes/sandals.
The spray coming up the rocks could be felt from the trail even. Really cool!
Best of Maui
This is one of our favorite places in the world. A great, a great, easy hike and to beautiful for words. Snorkeling at Nāmalu Bay is the best.
