Best way to start our trip

By sanantonio18 |

5 miles each way. Great way to bike easily and see a good view of the water. Well maintained with plenty of bathrooms. Liked it so much did again the next morning. Early in the day not very crowded.

Healthy & relaxing bike path

By Greg A |

Great way to relax & enjoy the east side of Kauai. Park the car and bike or walk to beaches, restaurants & lodging. Stay at one of the hotels along the path and plan to enjoy beautiful sunrises and sunsets along the path. We live on Kauai and this is one of our favorite ways to enjoy this part of the island.

Great oceanside path

By VeeBuz |

We rented bikes and cycled this path. The views were breathtaking - who knew there were so many shades of blue!! LOVED the unexpected tree swing along the way. it was hot - took a guidebook tip to shower at beach on the way back - it was glorious (even though we were not in our swimsuits!) - seriously, just do it!

Great ocean views

By Matt K |

Took only about an hour and a half to finish this great bike trail, with plenty of time for great Mexican lunch on way back. So many photo opps!

Great Path

By Chris G |

Awesome path! Take your time going up or down via bike, skates or running. Was wide and paved with great views!

Excellent Outdoor Activity

By Mike O |

This is so much fun. Get a good bike, grab a towel, some water and you camera and enjoy some beautiful coastal views and some isolated beaches. What could be better? Well, your on a paved path made just for walkers, runners and bike riders. It is a very easy ride of about five miles that takes about two hours with minimal stops. Be sure to check out the Pineapple Dump and Donkey Beach (you may be the only ones there). It is the next sandy beach you see north of Anahola Beach.

A path with a great view!

By puntaperfecta |

I have been riding my bike on this beach path for some time now. You can actually start at the campground in Lydgate Park but the path is in sections until you get up to the Kauai Shores resort. From Lydgate, you can go for about a mile north then you have to ride some streets and the Coconut Coast resorts' parking lot up to Kauai Shores. Then a quick one way street and the real and complete path begins. You ride oceanfront through Kapaa and about a mile past Kealia Beach. I usually wear my trunks and take a dip at the north end of Kealia on the way back. After the dip, you can shower off at the restroom there. Then ride south wet under the sun. The only caution is watch out for tourists walking without paying attention to bike riders. I've had to slam on my brakes more than once. Overall, not a bad way to get some exercise with an awesome view.

Beautiful Kauai Path

By Mary M |

Any time of day, this is a great and easy path to walk. The scenery and sound of the ocean is amazing. I walked most of it, but many people were running or biking it as well. Great stopping off places that you can walk down to the beach.

Evening or morning walks

By Honda L |

We by no means covered it all but 11 miles of wide sidewalk to run, walk, or ride bicycles. Right between the resorts and beach. Public bathrooms if needed. Picnic tables, Beautiful morning sunrises. One block over is the main highway with eclectic shops, breakfast, coffee, and lunch shops. You can rent bikes to ride. Very family friendly.

The paved path that starts in Kapaa and follows along the ocean

By Donna C |

For amazing views and cool ocean breezes take a stroll or rent a bike and explore the Kauai path. It is easy enough for almost anyone to follow the gradual rises along it. The views are breathtaking and follow along the ocean. You get views that you can only see by taking the path.

Great bike and walk path.

By waynepretson |

We had loads of fun riding our bikes along the path up and down the coast line around Kapaa. Take some snacks and drinks, there are Picknick tables and rest spots dotted along the path. You travel past some great beaches and it's a really nice pleasant way to spend the day. Easy to get sunburnt though, so best cover up!

Amazing path...

By Montreal_Canada2011 |

This (bike) path is really amazing. You get to see to sea, many beaches, birds, etc. We really enjoyed our time there. Impressive views at sunset too.

Breathtaking Views

By poohgirlrt |

This is an excellent paved hike/bike trail. Although the terrain on the pavement is easy, careful stepping down onto the lava rocks...broken ankle and fire dept coming to carry you up the hill is not so fun! ;-) Excellent long range views of ocean. Resting areas along walk. One of our favorites!

12,000 steps to Kapaa and back

By FarFlungStarling |

We were staying at the Martiott Courtyard and accidentally found this path when trying to avoid the brutal traffic on the highways of Kapaa. We cut down a side street and found the path which winds along the ocean and takes you into Kapaa and beyond. So much nicer to walk than be stuck in traffic and the path is beautiful, winding along and over bridges, past lovely hotels and private residences. There are some washroom facilities along the way but they look sketchy and I'm sure I heard a rooster crow echoing out of one of them...There are bike rentals and lots of eateries, retail shops and attractions in Kapaa. Why not walk it?

I fell while Hiking

By Joe R |

I went on the the hike to get to the beach where The Rock was filming the set had already left the prior week so the beach was open to the public the view was great the fall was even worse. I was sad didn't get to the beach that day but I do highly recommend it just try not to fall.

Nice flat walking surface.

By DonLynski |

We walked the path in segments, but did manage to complete it.
Wear sunscreen, take water and wear good walking shoes. There is no shade along this path, wear a hat!

Just drive it

By timcarla |

There were tons of homeless people and not a very scenic walk for a long way. Chose to drive the coast instead and stop at some beautiful beaches and views.

Walking the path

By Janine J |

I had a great time walking the path. It was very interesting to read all the historical notes along the way. It was great that there were toilet stops.

A great view of Kauai's east side you won't see from the highway!

By nicklesflooring |

This is a great walk or bike path. Riding a beach coaster bike is an easy ride and you will see the beautiful scenery! Highly recommend!

A wonderful experience

By liznotlemon |

Kauii is a beautiful island, the oldest of the occupied Hawaii islands. Seeing the island from a helicopter was a wonderful thing to experience. The original Jurassic Park was filmed there and many of the sites were visible from the air. Also, the water is very warm. I always snorkel with a wet suit, but I didn't need it in Hawaii.

Easy ride best done early or late in day

By Kathryn M |

We rented bikes and cycled the path (I have two boys 13 and 10). The path was flat but provided us with wonderful views of the east coast.

Perfect Beach Side Walk

By charleswW4447FS |

Nicely maintained cement path that winds along the Kauai shore line. Plenty of places to sit, listen and enjoy the waves splashing against the shore.

A must do! But bring water and sunscreen!

By zwebb17 |

This is a free paved trail that runs along the coast. There are water fountains along the way, but take a cold bottle of it with you. Remember sunscreen because you will be in direct sunlight most of the way. Best way is via bikes. Go to hele bikes at the start of the trail and rent a bike (best price by far). Beautiful and fun adventure. Going south to north is all uphill and takes longer, but coming back is downhill and you coast the whole way. I finished it in one hour peddling at a moderate speed on a single speed bike. Quite the challenge peddling uphill against wind, but flying down hill with the wind to my back was awesome. After droping off the bike at hele, walk across the parking lot to Ono Family Restuarant and get a huge delicious shave ice. (Wouldn't recommend their food though).

Beautiful path along the coast

By Frank H |

My wife and I walked what is called Phase 2 of the path which starts in Kapaa and goes northward 4 miles. It is a there-and-back path but if 8 miles round trip is too long, Uber operates in the area. It was an 87F day and the last couple miles got a bit uncomfortable for my wife with the heat. We started at noon but I recommend timing for a morning or evening sunset walk.
The path has cyclist and walkers on it and felt very safe. There were a few rises and dips in the path but all quite mild. There is a Phase 1 path which is just south of Kapaa and runs southward for 2.5 miles too. We read that Phase 3 is coming and will link the paths and ultimately the entire path will be 20 miles long.
The path we took was beautiful and afforded many beautiful spots for pictures. There are at least three bathrooms along the path that I can recall and these also have nearby shaded tables under open roofed structures to rest at. Recommend to bring at least one liter of water (32oz) for the walk. Super relaxing and very beautiful.

Walk or bike while enjoying amazing views

By Vicki |

This path is wide and well maintained. It follows the shoreline with covered rest areas every so often. Locals seem to use them while fishing etc. I didn't see homeless people.

Great bike/walk trail along the ocean for miles

By Hikerjcpdx |

Super fun, nice to be separated from traffic, great views, and good historical markers and facilities for shade and restrooms.

Exercise and views at the same time

By Chris R |

Our hotel had decent bikes available, otherwise we would have rented. We rode the path twice - the second time to the end of the pavement. You can stop and read historic plaques or have a whole beach to yourselves. And on our return to Kapaa we ate brunch at the Kapaa Kountry Kitchen.

Cool Hike

By Seamus |

We spent only a few hours in this hip town, but much of that time was spent walking the neat seaside path the town has built. The ocean views are quite breathtaking in places, and there are several swimmable beaches punctuating the undulating walk. This is a gem. built. The ocean views are quite breathtaking in places, and there are several swimmable beaches punctuating the undulating walk. This is a gem.

Lovely walk!

By KarenBluestone |

Enjoy walking back and forth along this path so close to the waves. You get the benefit of partial shade as you go through the tree-lined part. Some construction to go around at this time.

A Bike Ride of Paradise

By willlohnes |

I lived right next to this path for 7 years and rode several times throughout the time in residence. Do not leave without enjoying this delight of beach, sun, sand, and beauty. Without equal. Take the time and I promise you will not regret it but build memories.

Enjoyable bike ride!

By Victoria R |

Loved the well-maintained, wide, and paved path. No cars - this is only for pedestrians and bikers. We rented bikes and spent 2-3 hours. Not a difficult ride as it was somewhat flat, but one can't beat the views! (Ocean AND chickens!) Benches and covered rest stops along the way. Would be nice to bring a picnic as well.

Must-Do Activity in Kapaa

By cgpjs |

This is a beautiful paved coastal bike path, super fun to feel the wind in your hair and the sun on your skin as you take a leisurely ride through this beautiful part of Kauai. Rented bikes in Kapaa. The path takes you past several beaches. We stopped at one beach with a lifeguard and locked up the bikes to chill out on the sand and do some body surfing. There is a lot of solitude to be found on this scenic trail. Definitely a highlight of our stay in Kauai.

Kapaa Board Walk

By DianeW98501 |

The Kapaa Board Walk is an absolute delight. There are several places to begin but we generally start where the multiple parking is and the ocean is rather grand. You can determine how long you want to make it and return to where you began. The views are all beautiful and the path is paved for walking as well as bike riding.

Great beach front walk or bike

By TexasOjo |

The Kauai path is a paved/concrete walkway/bikeway. I found the people on it to be friendly and courteous to both walkers and bikers. Bikes are typically old school upright or mountain style. There was a heavy cross wind today which caused 2 problems for us. 1) my wife was cold. The path is right on the water and there is no place to hide from the wind. We were under dressed....our fault. 2) Saw a guy on a road bike get blown sideways off the edge of the path...skinny road bike tires, sand and 25+ mpg gusts = oops.

Perfect Sunrise View

By tphybridtx |

This was one of my favorite experiences on my recent trip to Kauai. I drove down an hour before sunrise from Anini Beach to hike this path leading north out of the city of Kapa’a. My goal was to hike in the dark up the cliff side trail to arrive at the point in order to see a beautiful Hawaiian sunrise. The entire path is about seven miles (out and back), but I parked just north of the city at the lifeguard stand in the beach park (only 4 miles out and back from this spot). This path is not a traditional hiking trail, but is paved for walking and biking. There is some elevation up the paved path leading to the top of the cliffs, but even in the dark, the sound of the ocean early before dawn is a spiritual experience. After a two mile, 30-40 hike I arrived at my destination; a gazebo with an overlook at the top of the cliff facing directly east. The sunrise was spectacular and worth my trip to Hawaii all by itself. I spent about thirty minutes at this location before returning to my car. The morning views on my walk back were equally amazing. This is a great path for families anytime of the day, but I highly recommend this journey before the sun rises. Since this is a paved path with little elevation, it is a relatively easy hike for anyone in below average to decent shape. Wear any shoes you see fit, bring a flashlight and at least one bottle of water. Best sunrise spot in Kauai.

Rain dampens the experience.

By Celeste M |

The day we were here there had been an abundance of rain and that water was mud brown. I would research weather patterns before going back.

Rent a bike or walk.... it's wonderful!

By Michael M |

There are a bunch of bike rental outlets in Kapaa that will rent you a decent bike for anywhere between $5 or $10 an hour. For that you get a nice, serviceable three speed bike with coaster brakes. Serious bikers might have to pay more if they want more speeds, but hey this is Kauai', Take your time and enjoy the aloha.

The path runs from south of Kapaa north well past Keolia Beach (where you may very well see some excellent surfers). It's not difficult, perfect for families or loafers like me. It's a wonderful, wonderful way to spend an afternoon.

Long, spectacular walk

By Jim M |

We jumped onto this path from downtown Kapaa. It followed the shoreline and offered many gorgeous views. Round trip was about 12 miles.

The Kauai bike path is my favorite

By Diane Y |

The views from this bike path are breathtaking. The safety of being able to bike ride without cars is awesome. It’s so fun to see all the sights from a bike.

Nice for a stroll

By Ali G |

The oceanfront path goes for miles. Bikes are also allowed on path but most are very courteous (when coming up from behind) and ring their bell :)

Best Experience of Our Trip

By pammft |

This is a cement bike path / walking path that runs from downtown Kapaa to smaller beaches 5 miles north. It is stunning from beginning to end, right along the shore and overlooking isolated beaches and surf. The view is better than that from the highway. Rent a bike at Kauai Cyclery for $10 for 4 hours and have the time of your life! If you are put off by a few souls who seem to live along the beach then this is not for you but we found it safe, fun, plenty of restrooms along the way, maps along the way and beaches to explore! Bring sunscreen.

Beautiful pathway with great views

By lidice101 |

We rented 3 bikes and went all along this beautiful pathway. The ocean views was very nice and beautiful. I highly recommend it !

Peaceful Path

By Jessica Christakis |

My father and I walked part of this path every morning to get coffee and watch the sunrise. It was very peaceful. We even biked out to the pineapple drop one morning.

Bike path

By lteez |

It was close to where we were staying in Kapaa. Easy to access to the downtown area. Heard from locals that it is going to be extended another six miles north.

Great Hike/Bike Path

By fitzpatrickmo21 |

Great Hike/Bike Path. Runs about 8 miles along the beach in Kapaa. Not too crowded early in the day.

Wide walk/bike path along the ocean near Kapaa

By thaward |

This level and paved path is very popular for runners, cyclists and walkers, and for small groups and families. The route goes along the ocean, parallel to the highway, and is elevated above the beaches and lava rock areas below, providing great views across the ocean and seashore. Many sea birds and marine life are seen while traveling along the route. There are restroom facilities and picnic/parking areas along the way. Check it out!

Nice path along the coast.

By Kasa05 |

This is a great walking place that hugs the coastline in Kapaa. We enjoyed a nice afternoon walk here.

Why can't it be like this at home?

By Jamie D |

This trail was literally a few steps from our door. We made good use of it, most days. The view is awesome, we watched waves, and whales as we exercised a bit. If I had any complaint, it would be make it longer. more, more, more!

Rent a Bike!

By sunnyplaces |

3 of us rented 3-speed bikes from Coconut Coaster's in Kapaa. Around $20 for 4 hours which was more time than we needed to go from one end of the path to the other with many stops along the way. A lock is provided so you can stop for lunch along the way. An easy ride, beautiful scenery and a fairly inexpensive afternoon.

Lovely

By Lori B |

Absolutely love walking here every morning. The views are beautiful. Great way to relax and get in some exercise.

Good place to walk

By happy4travel |

This is an amazing place to walk. Very safe and very friendly! We especially liked the fact that kids are safe. Really a great place to see the atmosphere. We didn’t worry a bit. The coast was great, didn’t have to go far to see the Kauai Path. Beautiful scenery! Kauai is just gorgeous! Can’t wait for our next trip!!!

great view with your walk

By pjgrad |

This trail/path is an easy walk with a great view. There are easy in and outs to the path. Bikes and strollers are great.

Biking the coastline

By Katri A |

We loved biking the coastline with our 9 and 11 year old kids. This trail was just the right length for them. There were plenty of covered places to stop at and have a drink of water when the kids needed it. Lovely scenery. One star left out due to the loud man selling weed on the way back. Not nice seeing that with the kids... That part of the trail had it's share of sketchy characters. Other than that it was a great experience.

Fun for Everyone!

By Lisa |

Bike or Walk, easy either way for all! Beautiful shoreline paved path along beaches, beach parks, town, food, and more. What a wonderful way to experience Kapaa. A top fun experience on our trip!

Nice bike riding path - about 5 miles long to the end

By Jane G |

Rented bikes to see more of the eastern side of Kaua'i. The bike ride was pleasant and made more so by the cool island breezes. Recommend that you take some water/drinks with you for the ride - round trip will take you about 1 - 2 hours depending on how far along the trail you want to bike. We stopped at several spots along the way to enjoy the spectacular views. Bikes are pretty reasonable to rent as well.

Amazing Views, right beside the ocean!

By Mitch7775 |

We often when in Kauai will walk or ride bike along this path. It is a good hour to ride the whole path, back & forth. Amazing views as most of this path is right along the ocean. We have seen turtles, whales & dolphins along this area.

Great for walking and biking

By ceg51 |

We were on the path every day to walk or bike. It is wonderful scenic and a great way to get exercise. One of our favorite activities in Kauai!

Wow, what a bike ride!

By Andrea |

I can definitely recommend this bike ride to everyone. The path is smooth and only a bit hilly, so cycling is easy, and most importantly, the views are amazing. You can also stop at one of the beaches, there is one in particular for good swimming. As for the food places, they are all pretty early on, at the Kapaa side, then nothing for the rest of the trail so keep that in mind for lunch plans!

Beautiful Scenery Along Kauai Path

By LarsieB |

We loved riding the paved Kauai bike path during our vacation. Unfortunately, I can't tell you the name of the bike rental shop we hired our bikes from as there was no name for the shop front and the owner said they don't actually want to go on Trip Advisor. However, we did hire our bikes easily for 2 hours near a car park facing the beach along the path, and it cost approximately $60 for our family of four. The coastline is really beautiful and it was an easy ride for our family. As other people said we simply wished this paved path was a longer distance. We highly recommend riding the Kauai Path!

Forget the roads

By Ed R |

Walked about 5 miles of it when we first arrived in Kauai, and a bit longer later with my wife. This gave a much better feel for the area, and Kapa'a, than driving the road (or more often stuck in traffic along the road).
It is very pleasant, very relaxing, and helps you quickly get into a Kauai frame of mind.
We did think about biking it, which many do, but our hotel was located before the start of the path, and if you aren't doing it daily for exercise I think walking might be a better option (just remember the sunscreen).

Highly recommend

By UtahPuglover |

We rented bikes right next door from Pono Kai resort in Kapaa and had a blast biking on the trail. Would definitely recommend.

It's Great Until the Pavement Ends! Park and Walk!

By AZLynn18 |

My husband and I are seniors but that didn't stop us from renting a tandem bike and tooling north on the path. It is beautiful. The ocean views are colorful and the sounds and breeze make you feel in paradise. However, the path does end and when the pavement ends, park and walk if you want to go further. We didn't know and ended up in a creek with the bike on top of us. Fortunately we were able to continue on and road as far south as our condo which was past the actual path along the coast. There are beaches and ramadas and lots of amenities along the way, so it's a great way to spend half a day.

Loved this path

By pitt_twins |

We were in Kauai for a week and walked different parts of the path each morning. We drove to different areas and did our walk. It's wide enough to accommodate walkers and bikers. We were able to see a lot of the sights of that part of Kauai.

Beautiful path - pedestrian and bike path

By Travnur |

Wide path runs along the ocean but it rained every day we were out there. High seas & winds - it is Decemeber.

Beautiful Ride

By richard h |

I ride this path each visit to Kauai. I rode this path 3 times two weeks ago. It was great. Not too much slope mostly flat. You can walk down to several beaches. Take a lunch or snack and enjoy.

Get your walk/run/ride on sea side!

By 2017love2travel2017 |

A great walk/run (or bike ride) beside the glorious ocean! This is a must-stop to destress and find your happy place. The path begins in downtown Kapaa for a few miles north to a parking lot. A beautiful place to unwind!

A must do if in the Kapaa area

By golfladd |

We rented some bicycles and rode the whole length of the beach path. The views are gorgeous. We had this done this before a couple of years but just had to do it again. If going by bicycle it is an easy ride. We stopped several times just to take in the views. This time we did not see any whales but two years ago we saw several from the path. I would consider a must do plus it is cheap.

Wish we were the first to say this Path is Great !!!!

By john P |

Joggers, bikers, walkers, small kids, skate boaters, oldsters, etc. etc. etc. Simply a fabulous path for all. Views, crashing surf, nice sand beaches. Literally right along the shore. One of the most lo-key relaxing places in Hawaii to walk or bike.

Nice path to bike ride or walk into Kapaa town

By SandGal0424 |

Enjoyed my bike ride on the path. Right next to the ocean. From the Hotel Coral Reef, you can bike 4 miles north and 2 miles south (into Kapaa)

Afternoon rides

By Brady H |

Perfect place for an afternoon sunset ride or walk along the beach.
Lots to see and lots of friendly people along the way.
Good way to access spots to watch surfers

Very relaxing and beautiful bike path

By Robert |

We rented bikes and rode along the bike path one afternoon while we were in Kauai and we loved it. The bike path is very nice, well-maintained, and clean, and the views are beautiful. You pass by some pretty beaches and rocky shorelines where you can watch the waves crash against the rocks. It is pretty flat and makes for a very comfortable, enjoyable, peaceful bike ride.

Great bike path!

By Cynthia R |

we've been in Kauai for about 2 weeks and have done multiple hikes. We wanted to take a break from hiking and take our bikes out for a spin. This is a great easily accessible path that you can bike, walk or run. We parked at Wailua beach and biked to the end of the path. The entire path we took took about 2-3 hours. We stopped for lunch at the food trucks and along the path at a few of the beaches to rest. A nice way to spend the day!

Great walking path

By KatieZ995 |

This is a great place to get your morning walk in while on Kauai. The views are gorgeous, just make sure you keep your eye on the horizon. We saw around 10 Humpback Whale spouts from the path.

If you have time then do it

By Sarah V |

We rode from hotel coral reef to donkey beach and back .. very easy ride with a nice breeze .. we rode around 3 in the afternoon and it was a bit hot, wouldnt do that again .. either early in the morning or later evening .. It was beautiful though. We past another beach that was crowded .. had bathrooms, showers, and lifeguards . We kept going to donkey beach .. took a small break from the sun and headed back. Was not crowded and not strenuous.

Walked this every day for my 3 week stay!

By Susan H |

Where else can you get your daily exercise and whale watch at the same time?
Delightful trail that keeps us coming back to Kapaa!

Rent a bike and dont miss this!

By AlphonsePhive |

Rent a bike and don't miss this! You will see places in Kauai that you wont be able to by car. Aloha, ya'll!

great walk

By cobbryan6 |

went with friend of 40 years who lives on Kauai and my daughter. Great time with each other. Other people are there it is very popular. Beautiful views. Go in the a.m. Its cooler

Sunday's experience

By Lynn A |

This is a great adventure. Very easy whether on foot or a bicycle.
You get to see some of Kauai coast line that you do not when driving on the highway.

Safe, uncrowded trail along the water

By Via_girl |

We used this path frequently when we were staying at the ISO hotel. It was a great place to watch the eclipse of the moon and made for a good evening walk going to the restaurants in Kapaa.

beautiful walk or bike ride

By reno1024 |

Beautiful path to walk, push a stroller, or ride a bike. A word of caution--some of the public restrooms along the path appear to be taken over by (indigent) campers on the beach.

A Great Walking Path Along the Shoreline

By Richard B |

This is a fantastic path. It is shared by bikers, joggers, walkers and dog walkers. The views of the shoreline are breathtaking. We walked about 2 miles from Kapaa Beach Park north to another park and back. The path is 10 feet wide made of concrete and in great condition. There are historical information signs along the path to enhance your understanding of things that happened in the area. There were many path users all having a great time. There are also some picnic shelters along the way. We will return to walk on another part of the path at another time. A great experience for us.

lovely path to rent bikes walk or go for a run

By nat158 |

we ran walked and biked this path was lovely for a morning stroll to see the sunrise too and possible sightings of whales. we did see 2 separate seals that washed up to have a sleep

Amazing views along the coast

By scentsbyc0ri |

I bike this path on a regular basis and love the breath taking views. My favorite is during whale season. I enjoy morning rides or just before sunset for a more cooler less humid journey. During the wet season, you can ruin your clothing from the red dirt spills on the pavement up north.

Miles and miles of coastal paved pathway

By Roger L |

This paved trail starting in Kapaa runs north along the beach and coast for approximately 8 miles and allows for dog-walkers, cyclists, joggers, runners, or walkers probably the best views in the world, certainly the islands!

Kauai waterfall experience

By Lori L |

LOVED our hike and waterfall experience. This will be a memory we cherish forever. Our guide was knowledgeable and experienced.

Beautiful beach path

By Colin Archibald |

This beautiful Multi use beach path extends 8 miles from Kapaa to Anahola and is a great place to walk or ride a bike. There are a number of bike rental businesses at the Kapaa end of the path which makes it a good starting point. The path is fairly level, so appropriate for almost anyone. I have even seen folks in a wheelchair enjoying the path.

Do Not Miss

By dan b |

This path was one of our highlights when in Kauai. As a couple we are not avid bikers, but we did the bike rental and road the 9 mile trip on the Kauai Path. Some of the best coastline views are only available to be seen from this path and so they should not be missed. On bike you can take it all in - in about ninety minutes. Also, this is a great way to get many beautiful pictures.

Best beach pathway

By Patty M |

In Kapaa there is a paved pathway that follows the beach for miles.
While vacationing, we would walk this to smell the salt air and enjoy the beach.

We saw many who had rented bikes on the pathway. Great if you just need to unwind.

Quick stop

By KMT |

We checked this path out on a whim and were a bit shocked by how filthy the coastline and ocean was on the east side. Definitely not the prettiest beaches or scenes compared to the rest of the island. We ended up just making this a quick stop and not spending a lot of time.

Easy paved path

By 880krystals |

This is a great walking or biking path just under four miles paved. It was easy to rent bikes and cruise the gorgeous coastline. Highly recommend.

Walk or cycle this route

By Duquesadiner |

The good thing about the Kauai Path is that if you arrive by car there is parking and you can get on the path with ease. Going on the path by bike probably extends how far you can go but for sure the views are fantastic no matter how you do it. We didn’t see any whales but I think it might be a bit early for them in December.

East shore Bike Path

By Jan T |

Loved this path - we did it twice! the day after we arrived and the day we left. It is so easy and interesting, with lots of stops and viewpoint along the way. Saw whales, monk seals beautiful birds, foliage etc.

Our daily bike ride.

By OUsooner13 |

Be sure to ride to the very end and enjoy the view. IN January-February watch for whales. Always fun to ride.

Amazing Trail!

By miscellani |

We rented bikes from "Hele on Kauai Bike Rentals" in Kapaa to ride this trail. This is a must see, must do! We had the best morning riding along the trail and stopping to take in the views. It's an easy to moderate trail; I think most anyone could ride it. It's nicely paved, but there were some mud and water puddles (we just rode around them). You'll need a couple of hours (or more!) to soak this up. It sprinkled a couple of times while we were out, but it didn't phase us. Don't miss this activity when in Kauai!

Beautiful seaside path

By moosie1955 |

We walked part of this path on our 3rd day in Kauai. It offers many beautiful views and is multi use should you decide to rent a bicycle. Not overly crowded so a very relaxing activity.

Sweet!

We loved cycling Kauai Path. Just delightful lots of washrooms and rest places very easy cycling. We did not stop at the beach but you could bring a picnic and make a day of it. It is 2 hours round trip. You can stop in Kapaa town and have a shave Ice like we did!

Beautiful ocean views

By travlngirl_13 |

We rented bikes from the Cocoa Pink Bike Rental and road north to the end of the trail. There are also lots of walkers along the path. It's a nice, easy path to walk or ride with great ocean views

great opportunity to get some exercise in, clean and safe,

By Kip F |

My spouse and I walk this path every time we stay here. It hasn't increased in length since our last visit in Sept. 2015, but still there are 4 miles north of the Pono Kai Resort and 2 miles south , tho to connect to Lydgate Park, you got to do street walking. However, well worth the walking, lovely ocean view!

This path provides beautiful scenery whether riding a bike or walking.

By Dick F |

This path run along a good portion of the eastern shore of Kauai. It is set up for safe walking or biking right along the coast. Often seabirds and monk seals are visible on the route. The path also passes through archeological sites in several locations. This is also a great path for a morning run.

Easy Bike Ride!

By Nicolle Z |

Great for all ages, my sister and parents and I had a wonderful bike ride along the coast. The paved path made for easy riding and there were plenty of pull-offs and scenic overlooks. You might even see a sea turtle or two!

The rented bikes had baskets and bells on them. Bring water, sunscreen and a hat!

Beach biking along the Kapaa shore

By kattriprevus |

We biked the Kauai path north from the Sheraton Kauai beach resort one morning. It was beautiful along the coast with some rest stops and bathrooms along the way. Take water and plan to share the path with walkers. Recommended!

Great free excursion

By Marvin D |

Seven miles or so of paved, easy access, good condition walking path, with room for bikers, joggers and walkers. And one of the best views on the beach.

The gritty side of Kauai

By Beardy_McBeardson |

First the good - it's a flat paved walking and biking trail, as advertised. Views are okay and there's a nice breeze from the ocean. There is no shade so sunscreen is a must. The bad - be prepared to see the gritty side of Kauai. Many homeless encampments along the beach, boarded up buildings, filthy restrooms. I particularly recommend staying away from the southern end of the trail at Highway 56 and Kaloloku road which looks very rough. Kapa'a Swimming Pool is a nice paved lot to access the trail half-way through or you can park at the Kealia Beach (just watch out for the giant potholes - like all public spaces in Kauai this is grossly neglected and in disrepair).

Incredible Path - Don't Miss !!!

By Happy Explorer |

If you like to bike even a little bit, rent a bike and go on this trail. We loved it so much we did it a second time. The views are outstanding. It is an easy bike trail, not a lot of up and down. It is an easy smooth wide trail. A don’t miss if you are in Kauai.

Wow!

By Kathy F |

There is no other place where you can walk, exercise, bike or run and have breathtaking views of the coastline.

5 Miles of Paradise

By tdubbers |

My husband and I spent a week in Kauai recently, and we thoroughly enjoyed biking along this path. What a great way to be active and experience some gorgeous beaches. We even spotted whales! We parked near Chicken in a Barrel and rented bikes next door, riding to the end of the path in both directions. The $10 for a 2-hour rental was just right, giving plenty of time to stop periodically to rest and enjoy the views. Donkey Beach was our favorite - we sat on rocks and watched the surfers there for awhile. Highly recommend!

Great and easy hike/walk

By Thomas K |

We started on this hike after eating breakfast in Kaapa. Path is paved and provides wonderful views throughout. We decided to head up the coast (aka: go left when facing the ocean). It provided nice view of pristine beach, rocky shores, crashing waves, and view of the island. You can also rent a bike and ride if you wish. There are various bike rental places.

The BEST and most Economic

By anniesart |

If you LOVE the ocean you MUST take a stroll on the "Bike Path", that's what everyone here calls it. It's flat, it's paved and a great view of the sunrise, if you get up early enough. Remember, even if you are close to the beach as you drive around the island... it's round ... and the BEST views are from this venue... unless you take a helicopter ride, amazing views for 1 hour. On the path I've seen surfers, fishermen (sometimes with nets) and occasionally monk seals and wales. So if you're on Kauai for any amount of time, take a walk on the east side, you have to come to Kapaa to get groceries anyway!

Breathtaking Views

By Sandra T |

We had a sunny slightly breezy day to do the 10 mi. ea way trail on free bikes from our hotel. It was really nice.

A peaceful, gorgeous path

By frog55vt |

This path is amazing. Stunning views every where you go - and NOT crowded. Beautiful beaches. A place to watch the sunrise, walk, bike, walk your dog or just to sit at a view point and enjoy the view. We saw whales! Love it. A must hike.

Great walk

By Mimosa52Nsw |

This path follows the coastline for several kilometres. We walked along it every morning of our stay. We loved taking some exercise in such attractive surroundings.

Great low cost excursion.

By Brien B |

Great way to get some easy exercise, enjoy beautiful coastal views, and breathe the fresh sea air. Easy couple hour bike cruise on east Kaua’i.

Nice walk in the morning.

By Megster4490 |

This trail was right out the door of the house we stayed. The views were very pretty and loved walking the path in the morning. Next time I would like to rent a bike to ride the whole path.

Lovely

By Jan T |

A nice walk along (but not on) the beach. The path stops and you have to go back out by the highway in a couple of places, but those are short. You can get to the beaches easily.

Fantastic. Amazing!

By VLO |

The path goes on forever! Magical views all along the path. This would be the main reason, I'd go back to Kapaa, except for Boss Frogs. Make sure to make it to the Tree access tunnel!

Good bike ride all along the East coast.

By MJantsch |

We took a bike ride for 4 hours down the coast and it was a great way to see various parts of the coast on the East side of the Island. There were areas to overlook the ocean, beaches to get down closet to walk and swim plus the path was wide and paved. Easy ride since elevation change is slight. Might be as fast as driving along the East side because at certain times in the day traffic is slow. Good way to get outside and get exercise as well.

Wish I could do this every day...

By PresidentoftheWeekend |

This should be done by anyone visiting Kauai who is able to ride a bike.
Ride the path, jump in the ocean, get to the end of the path and there are hiking trails you can continue on.
Take a picnic, plenty of spots to stop, sit, lounge
When you return to Kapaa, grab a shave ice and cool down

Fantastic

By Jens J. |

We rode bikes on the it was great the only way to see this part of the coast, walk or ride bikes. highly suggested

Another World

By 2017art |

drove all the way to Princeville..only part ugly was part above Anahola where Gilligan's travel's are shown..Stone wall isn't high enough to hide junk yard on island..should be condemed..Maps should be updated and signs out to simplify where hollywood shoots occured....Evident that the counsel that sets rules of the road are not educated, and plain blind as to what is advertised in their area..Wake up and smell the garbage!...Need voted out and get a board that cares!!!

Waterfront walkway for miles

By Ryan O |

Beautiful views looking east from a clean and well-paved road - perfect for running or biking. Picnic tables along the way offer a place to grab a bite to eat or rest. Snails crawl across the trail in the dawn hours, chickens roam here and there, and whales and sea turtles swim in the waters just off the shore.

A favorite!!!

By Cathy G |

We do this four mile easy walk (one way) more than once on each visit! You get to choose whether you walk 10 minutes or two hours in this beautiful land. With the ocean and whales to watch the entire way, what's not to like? It is just gorgeous. The setting changes the farther you are willing to walk. In Kapaa there are lots of businesses and homes, but after Kealia Beach there is just scenic beauty. We love our stop at the Pineapple Dump. Make the time for this concrete path. You won't be disappointed.

Nice paved running path out of traffic

By Jb4375 |

This path was just a couple blocks from our apartment. First night we arrived we took a short walk to stretch our legs. Was dusk, felt safe.
Also did 6 mile run, first south a little until we reached hotel and didn’t want to continue running along the highway, then back north. Was not busy, although we saw walkers and runners, and bikers who rang their bells before passing. Did see sleeping monk seal and mud turtle just off the path ( not together).
Felt safe.
Restrooms and water fountains along the path. Some people just hanging around the restroom ( locals or campers? ) by the marina but didn’t bother us.

Easy to Bike and Walk

By Mike S |

We rented some beach cruiser bikes from our resort in Kapaa to experience this path.

We had a 1 mile bike ride to get to the path and once you get to the path it is awesome. I only wish it was longer than 4 miles.

The path is very flat with a few very slight inclines but should not be of any concern to people who want to bike the path to the end. There are lots of look out points with great views so bring your phones/cameras.

You will pass many beaches if you want to stop to soak in the sun or swim. The final beach at the end is Donkey Beach. We stopped here. There are a few paths that go down to this beach as the path is a bit elevated here but the walk is 3-5 minutes and not difficult. There was a high surf advisory the day we did this, so we were unable to swim but did enjoy the sandy beach

There are many pavillions along the path in case you have a brief rain shower and want/need cover. There are rest rooms at Kealia beach with is just past the halfway mark.

TIP: About 50 metres before the end of the path there is a small opening on right hand side. It is a dirt path that you can walk (or ride) your bikes through and it opens up to a beautiful red sandy area lookout over the ocean.. Great views. A local told us about it and said most people just ride by. Check it out

So beautiful - great way to explore Kapaa

By Danielle H |

Gorgeous trail, takes about 2 hrs round trip, if you don't stop for too long at each beach! Wonderful view of the ocean!

Beautiful views and great exercise

By Sharon531 |

We stayed at the Hotel Coral Reef in Kapa'a, which was directly on the beach and on the bike path. From our hotel, to the left the path went 4 miles ( plus the 4mile return trip) and 2 miles (2 mile return) to the right, for a total of 12 miles. In the morning, my husband and I would walk the 4 miles, and in the afternoon, I'd bike. There are some good small trails, where you can go off the beaten path to an over look, to attempt some whale watching. ( we went in the winter, so there were plenty of whales.

Great way to spend a couple of hours and get some moderate exercise

By ATraversLeMonde_2011 |

Great path, right on the beach, easily accessible, fun to walk or ride a bike (recommend a bike - it's a long path). The only reason I held back one star is because of personal safety. I am NOT saying it is not safe and by no means do I want to sound like a snob, but in all honesty some spots on the trail are indeed 'home' to many of Kauai's homeless, which can be both sad and raise concerns about safety. Otherwise thumbs up. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Beautiful and fun trail for a walk or bike ride

By Russ A |

My wife and I rented some beach cruisers from Kapaa and took the trail all the way to both ends. This was one of our favorite things to do while in the island.

The trail has amazing views of the ocean with many pull offs to enjoy the scenery. The trail is paved and very well maintained with not a ton of traffic.

The path is also not very challenging either. It was not much of a workout if you just take your time like we did. It was perfect for just enjoying the beautiful island while casually riding a bike.

Fun bike ride

By paishaPa_Usa |

We spent a few hours on this trail. We rented a bike from Hele and covered 10 miles of the trail with ease. it was a fun and interesting way to see this part of the island. Recommend.

Scenic Bike Ride

By 1William2015 |

Beautiful bike ride along the east shore. We biked about five miles up and back with the wind at our backs on the return home. Take a camera or binoculars with you and enjoy the view. We had shot a short video of a portion of our ride to enjoy later. Lots of fun here. Food and drink just off the path in the town of Kapaa.

A beautiful walk, bike, or run beside the ocean

By Susan R |

All ages can enjoy this path. It is paved, wide, and runs for 5 miles beside the ocean. From it you can access the beaches and picnic shelters. The views of the ocean are spectacular and beside you the whole way. We rented bikes and it was a fun, pretty, and easy ride. We also stopped for tacos ! I recommend it for the whole family. You can take it for as long or as far as you like.

Great!

By Jan-Bobtoo |

Kauai Path is a wonderful even paved path with absolutely spectacular coastal scenery. We had planned for long walks on the path before arriving in Kauai. A foot injury precluded this but we found just short strolls just gazing at the scenery was fantastic.

Beautiful way to enjoy Kauai

By Kristin K |

Great bike/walk path along the ocean in Kauai. Very easy but scenic ride past popular and isolated beaches and lookouts. We have been waiting years for this section to be finished and were able to enjoy several morning walks and bike rides on the path.

Nice walk for exercise.

By mechanic1987 |

If you walk on a regular basis or just want to go on a vacation stroll this is perfect. the views are wonderful.

Rent a bike!

By ssjj123 |

Great place to rent a bike to enjoy the scenery. The riding is not strenuous and the path is well maintained and off the main road. ENJOY!

Nice, well maintained trail

By Carl F |

We rented bikes for an hour and rode the trail. Well maintained and not too, too busy. Trail is right along the ocean front. Bathrooms are not very far apart either.

Ridiculously gorgeous--not to be missed! Visit early or later in day

By sharonsharon2015 |

We walked for a couple of hours along this path, and our jaws kept dropping at the breathtaking coastal views...crashing waves! We walked north from Kapaa and stopped at a lot of lookout points. There were some cyclists along the path as well, but the path was wide enough to accommodate. Certainly views you could not get by car. It was a cooler day, so the path was fairly quiet. Worth visiting more than once, and in more than one way: by bike or foot. We were worried there wouldn't be a lot of parking at a starting point, and maybe because it was a cooler day we didn't have any issues, but there were a few places to park along the way, so you could start your walk at different points for each visit. There was not a lot of shelter from the sun along the route, so recommend visiting when sun isn't at its peak. There were a few historical panels mounted along the way; a couple were too weather-worn to read. Be sure to include the pineapple dump!

bike it

By Tiffany |

this is a great bike or walking path near the ocean and through town
we started at the Kauai Shores hotel and went about 2 miles, we would have went further but we had to get back for dinner reservations :)

Simple fun

By Lisa M |

We biked on the path our first day here. So simple, So fun. Stopping at the different beaches along the way and taking amazing photos from the vistas.

Easy walk with great views

By acwtravels |

My husband and I stopped to walk part of the path after lunch one day as we were heading back to the airport to leave. It is a nice, paved path that runs along the beach with great views of the ocean. We saw many people biking, and if we had more time I would have liked to rent a bike and see the whole path.

Nice safe path and wonderful views

By Jon C |

Great place to take a long morning walk - we did this many mornings during stay and its a great way to start the day.

Incredible views and blissful experience

By Gwen G |

I couldn't believe this trail when I discovered it. I had read about it online before I arrived, but no one could have conveyed the beauty of this trail. A wow experience, I'm going back in a couple of days for more.

A great place for a bike ride along the ocean.

By Ed-Cheryl W |

This is a nice 5 mile path that is wide and very safe. Outstanding views along the way. This is an easy safe family outing, along a number of beaches. We spend 2-3 hours to just enjoy the time and views.

Family Vacation

By Rhonda A |

This was so beautiful . We enjoyed this beach 2 times and would go back in a heart beat . There is not a bad beach on Kauai !

Overwhelming

By dennys34 |

Just beautiful views into the ocean - great waves - nice walk along the beach - one of a kind - great flora

Awesome beach

By J-from-Marysville |

Awesome beach with a paved biking/walking path. Some covered picnic shelters. Saw one life guard station and it was staffed. Was happy to also have an outdoor shower to rinse the sand off.

Easy path along east side of island

By BnThrDnThat |

We walked the concrete path from the Kaelia Beach to the old pineapple dumping station (no longer in use). It was about 3 mile round trip with many walkers, runners and bikers. It is an easy walk with terrific ocean views the entire way. Would be easily accessible for wheelchair.

Gread views, great bike ride.

By colinmcc |

When we first visited Kauaʻi many years ago, this coast path was only a real hard surfaced path in Kapaʻa itself, and was just a dirt road up the coast to the North of town. It actually used to be a rail line taking the off cuttings of vegetation from the pineapple factory in Kapaʻa up the coast a couple of miles where they were thrown in the sea, (I was once told the sea then brought them all back down the coast to the beach in Kapaʻa, but that is another story!) Now it is smooth tarmac for about 3 miles out of town, and ends at a spectacular beach, called 'Donkey's or Donkey Beach' by locals since the cane farms in the hills inland used to walk their donkey's down there to let them swim. You can walk it, but we usually rent bikes and cycle to the point where the tarmac ends, we once tried to go further and found some lovely little coves, but is was red dirt and mud all the way. If you want to see the ocean and take a little exercise then give at least the surfaced part a go! No hills, a flat seaside path BTW.

Bike Riding on Kauai Path

By Keith M |

Rode the path 5 days. Beautiful each time. I only wish it extended further both directions. Beautiful views of the beach/ocean and the beautiful mountains.

Ocean view all the way.

By kauaiwife1950 |

I have been walking this path for many years. I was using it long before it was paved.
You can walk, skate, and bike ride, on the path.
The view is beautiful.
To make it more fun you can geocache along the way. It’s a world wide scavenger hunt. It free . Go to geocaching.com for details.
Take plenty of water, a small lunch an d take your time and relax.
No charge to use path. Great for all ages.

Walk or bike

By boby1945 |

The path is an easy walk along the beach. Go from kapa a to the beach then the walk along the ocean with crashing waves. It is over 5 miles. There are multiple starting points with parking. Rent a bike for 5 bucks if walking doesn't suit you.

Beautiful!

By cdheiser46 |

All the ocean front of Kauai is beautiful and a site to see. One can't imagine the beauty until you see if for yourself.

Leisurely bike route with spectacular views!!

By LMBorjon |

I visited a friend living in Kauai and we decided to enjoy the late morning with a bike ride. It was a warm and humid day so we didn't want anything too strenuous. The Kauai bike path was perfect. It was mostly flat with the most stunning coastal views and the fresh scent of the ocean wafting on the breeze. A very relaxing ride while getting exercise and soaking in the sun!

Nice and easy

By Brian R |

Renter from coconut coasters, bikes where older but well maintained. Nice easy path of 5 miles. Lightly traveled and very pretty. Well worth the time and money. Skip the chicken place next door.

scenic

By ScottHoag |

i bought ba condo here in 1991. it was a great move because i like to visit it yearly. it has beautiful beaches and its a quiet island. the restaurants are great including Gaylords the roads are all single lane roads and the buildings are not allowed to build over two story high so it's quaint.

Nice little ride to great private beaches

By wandernotlost54 |

Pick up a bike anywhere and cruise down this path to great secret beaches and perfect views. Stop in Kapa'a for shave ice or a smoothie and cruise on home

An easy ride with beautiful scenery

By Susan S |

This is a fun way to spend a couple of hours, or longer if you stop for a swim at some of the lovely beaches. The path was paved and fairly level, and the views were just divine. The pineapple dump was very interesting and there were lots of opportunities for photos all along the route. If the weather is warm ride early or late in the day as there is no shade and we were quite hot at the end. We hired bikes from the Aston Islander and it was about a 10 minute ride through the town to get to the start of the pathway. It was not at all crowded and there were places to stop for a drink or snack along the way.

Nice walk

By mrt1955 |

We were in Kapaa shopping and after looking at the various shops we happened upon this path and had a great little walk. Very scenic. Nice beach views, easy to navigate.

Really enjoyed the path

By EMT6388 |

Rented some bikes and went on our way down the path. Very enjoyable! Beautiful views and we'll maintained path!

A must do in Kauai

By Camscribe |

Rent a bike or walk or jog. Best ocean views. Watch the whales as you walk. It’s amazing. Completely paved. Easy grade. It’s best to do in the mornings when it is a hot day. A great start to your day

Great Addition For Everyone But Need More Of It

By Jm W |

It is a Good place to run ,decent place to ride your bike. Place does get a little congested sometimes.

Easy Ride

By Kirsty P |

I did this ride with my sister and friend. We hired bikes from Kauai Cycles and cycled the path. Unfortunately it was quite windy which made it a little difficult but the feeling of riding along the beach was an amazing feeling. I would suggest trying to go when it isn't so windy.

Bikes on a 10 mile path all along the beautiful Kauai ocean shores

By TravelGoddess61 |

We rented bikes in Kapaa and it was only 5.00 an hour and my husband and I rode for 2 hours so for 20.00 we rode all along the beautiful beaches of Kauai. You can make stops along the way and enjoy the beaches and the fabulous ocean views. Some parks have picnic tables, and other areas we were the only people on the beach. Trail is paved the entire way and is 9 miles north one way and if you travel south you can add another mile on your return if you wish. Bring water, sunscreen, a hat, good shoes, and some snacks, or maybe a picnic. They also give you a lock and helmets if you wish. There are 3 places in Kapaa to rent bikes so check prices. A must see when you visit Kauai. When you are finished enjoy the town of Kapaa.

Lovely walk...

By Grandebbie |

We only did 3.5 miles of this walk and wish we had discovered it earlier in our stay. Started at Waipouli Beach Resort and found the beginning of the trail and wished we had started there...but we did enjoy the part of it we walked. Nice bathrooms and stopping spots. Level and easy.

Beautiful scenery, cheap fun!

By Jessica C |

We rented bikes and biked the entire path at a leisure rate, stopping to take many pics along the way! Beautiful, inexpensive but fun activity - highly recommend. 9 miles round trip from and to Hele on Kauai bike rental store.

Great way to see the shoreline

By esenetekrema |

We rented bikes in Kapaa and enjoyed exploring this trail. It's easy to ride on and has great views. Plenty of nice places to stop along the way.

Outstanding Views, Relatively Easy Bike Ride for any age

By RetiredTraveler99 |

We rented bikes from a locally owned shop that is located just off of the path. Not sure what I can add that others haven't written already. The path consists of bikes, joggers, walkers, families, etc.

There are pavilions for shade or picnic, historic and informational plaques, as well as a few restaurants along the way. It can get congested a bit in the more populated areas and be alert as not all riders (or walkers) know the "rules" for riding on a pathway, i.e.: staying to one side, ringing the bell on the bike if passing a slower rider/walker and not having your group of 5 stop in the middle of a bridge to take a selfie (that created a back up for over 5 minutes), etc. There are a few who may call some of the green space "home" but they do not bother anyone and keep to themselves.

We rent bikes and ride the path every year that we come back to visit Kauai.

Biking along the shore

By Sharon98671 |

We love bike riding while in Kauai. This year was no exception. The views are spectacular and the path was moderate to easy pedaling. The only drawback was a few areas of orange mud, which now grace my back side! Recent rain had caused a little erosion along the path.

Wonderful views of the Pacific Ocean

By Mike C |

My wife and I rented bikes and spent about 90 mins cruising up and down the 5 mile stretch that follows the coast. I would definitely recommend to everyone.

Beautiful views. Saw lots of wildlife in the ocean while on the path!

By drsunshine108 |

Amazingly beautiful path. Great for everyone and even ok for babies in strollers. Well maintained and level so accessible too. Recommend seeing the wild side of Kauai while taking a walk or having a bike ride. Bikes for hire in nearby Kapaa town next to the neighborhood center.

Riding

By FastGirl39 |

Ride long the surf do some whale watching or maybe I get lucky and see a dolphin. Locals also very interesting to view. Restrooms along the path 5 miles down and back from bike rental. Path is paved and very small inclines. Easy Ride

Great for walking, jogging or biking. Takes you to Donkey beach for some sun and surf. Great for walking, jogging.

By Phil S |

This trail really ties Kapaa together. Very active. Riding, biking walking. Always busy. Takes you to Donkey beach if you need to play on a beach or in the water. Great views along the way.

Loved this trail!

By Mrscox12 |

A nice and easy trail / path to bike along. We did it as a family and it was appropriate for everyone. The views and the breeze on the warm day were both great!

Awesome local amenity

By mjgriffy |

Great community asset. 5 mile nicely paved path through Kapaa area. Rent a bike along the way ($10 for 4 hours!), pack a lunch, take a break at one of many beaches or picnic spots along the way.

Best bike ride ever

By Drtpaper |

Rent bikes at Coconut Coasters and you can ride round trip in an hour. You will not find a better ride or better scenery. Might even bump in to a Monk Seal.

Panoramic

By laurelpetterson |

I often choose to walk this path early in the morning. The view is always spectacular and changes daily. The distances between service areas is also well considered.

Fun bike ride

By Isa S |

This was a fun afternoon, we rented cruiser bikes from "Hele On" and enjoyed the path. Path has bathrooms along the way with drinking fountains. We stopped for lunch along the way in Kapa'a where there was varies choice of food trucks. Path is an easy ride, no steep hills, very smooth. Beautiful scenery along the way. Great way to see the East Coast at a slower past and a few beaches along the way.

Great walking or running path

By Darcie1129 |

Walked this path everyday during our stay. Gorgeous sunrises, safe, walking, running, biking. Even got to see a seal resting on the beach.

It is long and pretty

By robert y |

Just a great long paved path looking at surf and various parts of the town. Rent a cheap bike and see it all. Rode it in flip flops.

Bike or walk it!

By 08HeatherR |

You can rent a bike at a number of places in town or just walk this as far as you can, it is absolutely lovely (minus the few areas of homeless people loitering in the park/beach, they are no bother just sad to see). We did bikes one day and did the 4 miles out and back, very easy, basically flat, well maintained path. If you do a bike get a lock so if you stop you can secure your bikes. We saw two girls get all of there things stolen from the beach while they were both in the water...do not leave valuables unattended!!

Beautiful place to go for a bike ride along the surf!

By Joel C |

We rented bikes and went all along the pathway. Very nice and beautiful views. At one point, there was a Hawaiian Monk Seal resting from a night of fishing. This is a really fun thing to do!

Fun time....really!

By Debbie B |

Been going to the island for years and FINALLY have someone wanting to do this! So, drug the husband out, rented us some bikes...very easy to do and inexpensive...and hopped on the trail. It was a cloudy day, which probably made it less taxing and a nice breeze. Lots of views to stop and see. Stop and jump in the ocean, if ya like, but be prepared for chafing...haha! I know we had some outdoor restrooms to use along the way. Not a long trail, so don't worry about getting all wore out. If ya do, you can hit a fine restaurant for a beverage and food to treat yourself for this "active" activity.

Beautiful walk but don't use the bathrooms

By Esqbaby |

Oh really is a shame the homeless situation. Walking along pristine beaches marred by the tents, garbage, crap left behind by the homeless. I walked in and out of one of the bathrooms. Yuck. You can be homeless and show some pride!

Beautiful path for walking and bike rides

By Steven858 |

The path takes you along the beach to the north past Lyngate Park to the edge of the Waialua golf course. Plenty of secluded beaches along the way and picnic area with restrooms and drinking water fountains along the way.

pretty views

By Coreen O |

Was a nice walk to do the first afternoon that we got to the island. Sometimes there were multiple transients on the side of the path but that did not bother us

Easiest way to explore Kapaa town and enjoy the Coast

By OwlCity808 |

The Path is a block or two from the bike rental area (we used Hele) in Kapaa town. Take some time to also ride via side streets oceanside of Kuhio Hwy so you can stop at the shops along Kuhio Hwy. It's a relaxing and inexpensive way to spend a few hours.

Some notes:

- Mornings are best to stay cooler (8:30).

- Bike rentals still had inventory at 11am but just in case call ahead if later to make sure they have inventory.

- We had a friend that had not been on a bike since she was a child and had not progressed past training wheels. We rented a bicycle built for two ($20) and it was perfect for this path.

- Easily cruise the paved path as short or longer a ride along the coast.

- If you want something longer you can go on the dirt path beyond the paved area for more rewarding views North (water on the right).

- There is a cove beach that is perfectly calm during the winter season but ask a lifeguard on the way there if the area beaches are safe for swimming.

- Check out the yummy fruit shaved ice just a block or two from bike rentals. Or stop at Pono Market before 11:30 if you want to try delicious plate lunches. They sell out early.

- With teens, we spent about an hour at a leisurely pace going North along paved path and back to the bike rental in town.

- Bike seats are uncomfortable after an hour of straight riding so I recommend taking breaks or keeping it under 2 hours.

This is a relaxing and flexile activity to do with most ages!

Biking the shoreline

By Melanie T |

Wonderful wide piece of pavement with great views. Beach access, plus a bit of hill just to make it interesting, Be sure to walk or bike when in Kapaa.

Best bike path in Hawaii

By Exiled_rider |

We've been on this bike path several times over about 7 years and each time is a fresh and new experience. Around every corner and over each rise is a new view to take in. The path can easily be done on a 1 speed cruiser but is more fun on a multi speed bike. If you go, make sure to keep an eye a few hundred feet off shore. You are very likely to see Humpback whales spouting or breaching, especially in the mornings.

What a gem

By Bob H |

Rented bikes for about 10 days. Every day we would get up have a n ice breakfast and then enjoy a quiet lovely ride along the path. Started near Pono Kai ad would rife to the end of the path and back. Scenery is fantastic, people friendly and the excercise wonderful

Coastal path with some great view points

By welshman1955 |

This is now about an 8 mile fully paved path from Lydgate park to Donkey Beach. It is good for biking, boarding or walking. There are washrooms at several locations along the path and several covered picnic tables should you get a rain shower. The trail is very popular but doesn’t seem crowded. This is a perfect walk for couples or families as the kids can detour onto the rocks at several places.

Beautiful trail!

By Donna F |

This is an easy to ride, paved trail that stretches along the shore on the east side of the island. The views are awesome and there are many signs along the way giving interesting facts and history. We really enjoyed our ride!

Nice Views but Little Shade

By CMelam |

This paved path runs about 8 miles from Kapaa north. There are quite a few people who walk and bike as it runs like along the coast. There's very little shade or cover if it's hot or rains, but we enjoyed a couple of walks and the views are beautiful.

Breathtaking

By Camscribe |

A paved pathway overlooking the ocean. Easy walk or bike ride. Amazing photo ops and if you look hard you can see massive turtles in the surf at pineapple dump.

Spectacular way to see the coast!

By EmptyNest0603 |

Rented bikes at Coconut Coasters & hit the trail! Glad we opted for 3-speed instead of coaster bikes as it got pretty windy. The north section of the path is particularly beautiful.

Don't skip this

By Dave |

The Kauai walking/biking path gives you a chance to soak in the beauty of Kauai's shoreline at a slower pace. I walked and biked the path separately. On a nice day, it was an easy bike ride to the path's end. I pulled off the path a few times just to feast my senses on the gorgeous beauty. Don't skip this because it lacks the sizzle of a zip-line adventure. This is every bit as worthwhile.

Get Some Exercise!

By BeachShackBoy |

With Seattle being a home base for us, we use the Green Lake "bike" path often. Well, to me, this is the Kauai version of the GL path. It runs for miles (5+?) along the beautiful coast with a nice collection of sandy beaches with black rock croppings interspered. It currently has the right amount of foot / bike traffice so it is not too crowded. We would ususally jog / walk in the mornings, but at times an early evening trip. I run, my wife walks, and i felt she would be safe given the number of people who use the path. We've mostly used the Kapa'a town to Donkey beach section of the path.

Kapaa bike path

By Tom |

I love the Kapaa bike path. I ride my bike on the path about five times a week. This article says the path is eight miles long. It's not. The path is closer to 4.25 miles long. My round trip on the path is 8.5 miles.

Beautiful......park and walk

By Twix856 |

Its beautiful. A good way to get exercise in during vacation and you can see so many views of the ocean which is great for taking pictures. Definitely would recommend

Great way to get some exercise, enjoy the scenery

By nanette D |

The bike path is easy, paved, without any significant hills. The distance is perfect (4.5 miles) for a casual ride along the coast. The scenery is beautiful, and a nice ocean breeze keeps you cool even mid-day. You pass by some beach parks and picnic spots if you want a break, and you can rent a bike right on the path, or even stop at a food truck in Kapaa proper.

What a hike!

By Betsey B |

Whether you bike it or hike it - just go! And go all the way - past Pineapple Dump to Donkey Beach and beyond.

Pack a Lunch and Stay Awhile

By LUchicago |

The paved trail is about 4.5 miles, one way, from Kappa to Donkey Beach, hugging the coast with constant views and sounds of waves crashing on rocks. Along the way are ample opportunities to stop on a beach and enjoy the moment.
We rented our bikes from Kauai Cycle and Tour in Kaapa, and fortunately the rental included a lock chain. It came in quite handy when the pavement ended. We locked our bikes around a metal post just before a narrow, red dirt path and went exploring. The easy walk wound out to several carved out little rock coves with panoramic views of the coastline.....many hidden, quite private coves for a memorable lunch. Talk about a "table with a view!"

Lovely path along the ocean

By Suzieg99 |

We rented beach bikes and biked the trail from old town Kapaa to the end of the path before it turns to dirt for mountain biking. It was a beautiful ride with ocean views not seen from the car on the highway. The path is in great condition and plenty wide enough to accommodate bike traffic in both directions. There wasn't much traffic at all, a light breeze the entire time and very little incline. I recommend this for everyone.

Love it!

By momdzall |

Great path, that you can get on in a number of places. Lots of bike rentals, or you can easily walk as much or little as you want. Right along the ocean, and just gorgeous! Several pavilions along the way.

Great, easy path with tremendous views along the way

By rrogers |

This is an easy to moderate bike path for most people. The best part about it is that there are tremendous beaches along the way. Wear your swimsuit, so you can stop, lock up your bike, and jump in. The waves are too strong in some locations, so be careful.

Awesome views well worth walking or riding

By Tom M |

Loved it and walked it every day we were there, views are stunning, and there are a variety of things to see. Whale watching spots and great beaches

So beautiful and enjoyable!

By Bebe |

We use the heck out of this path when we visit this area. It's wide enough for 2 bikes or wheel chairs, and stunning views! A local favorite for exercise also.

Enjoyable

By dennis y |

This is a most enjoyable venue. Rental bikes are available for those who are not into walking. The paths are well kept & maintained, doesn't cost anything, relaxing, healthy, sun time without having to bake and quite nice. Sometimes, windy, but that just makes it cool!

Beautiful Oceanside Bicycle / Hiking Path

By andesalive |

I reviewed this path on our last trip to Kauai in 2014. This review still keep the 5* rating - it is spectacular aqnd there is a monk seal that tends to pull out along the rocks at the cliff base between Kealea Beach and the Pineapple Dump. There were lots more people along the path this year as compared to our former trip. Bicyclers, hikers, fishermen ( of all ages and genders) and keiki "doin'it Hawaiian Style" as they jump off the bridges into the inlets along the routes. All good. Unfortunately the first set of bathrooms and the adjacent grass and oceanfront areas seems to be a congregating spot for troubled souls. The bathrooms at this area look overused and untended unlike those at Kealea Beach.- Unsavory blot on an otherwise world-class tourist destination.

Great way to walk or bike along the coast

By Lwes |

My husband and I always look for places to take a nice walk and enjoy the scenery. The Kauai multi-use path is perfect for us. We are staying in a condo in Kapa'a and walk the path almost every day. You can head north along some of the most beautiful coastline there is with restrooms available at some of the beaches along the way. We have also hiked the south portion starting by the Coconut Marketplace to Lydgate State park. Definitely a great way to exercise and enjoy the beautiful views.

Awesome views

By Bridgetrose64 |

We rented bikes and road this path. Very easy for families, not crowded, felt safe. Gave awesome views of the oceanfront, better than seen from the car. Great, affordable way to see Kauai.

Gorgeous views!

By Jacob B |

Rent bikes (from 65 a week at some shops) and hit this wonderful oceanside trail. Somewhat strenuous - especially when biking the inclines against the northerly trade winds the perennially blow here - but not overly difficult. Also great for walking and jogging. Trail gives access to some secluded beaches - that you can only get to via the trail (including the pristine donkey beach).

Gorgeous and accessible for the east shore!

By Kaylin v |

A moderate 8 mile path that gave us gorgeous sea views. Rent bikes from Hele on Kauai for a nice smooth ride down this path for $5 an hour!

A lovely way to see the shore

By Annalise K |

We rented a pair of bikes for a half day and used that time on the Path. It was a great way to enjoy a mid-morning on the island. We loved that it weaves in and out of a bunch of different terrain, and it takes you along some interesting sites, as well. The ride itself isn't strenuous so it's great if you want an easy ride or walk, without a lot of climbing or difficult hills.

I recommend planning on a few hours to see the whole trail rather than just one or two. Yes, you can feasibly ride all seven miles in just that time, but it really is worth it to plan for a few stops and actually enjoy the views.

Lovely path!

By blong14 |

The path is great! You can see so many different views of the ocean. We only walked 2 miles north, check the weather before you go and make sure to wear sunscreen and a hat and bring water as it gets hot.

A must do!

By CaliTravelers2016 |

We recommend renting a bike instead of walking. It'a a few miles each way and the bike ride in the morning or evening is beautiful. We even saw a seal on the beach! Consistent great views.

View stars by night and beach by day

By Alyssa M |

We came across this path because we were staying close by and ended up walking on it multiple times during our week stay on Kaua'i. If you go far enough north on the path on a clear night, you'll get an amazing view of the stars! (But definitely bring a flashlight and a buddy - it gets really dark!) By day, there are gorgeous views of the ocean and it goes past several beaches but also lots of cliffsides and flowery areas.

Awesome caves to explore, tortoises to see, and plenty of beach to walk

By 907JLeMay |

We spent an amazing day here exploring nature. A Univerisity of Hawii student gave us a tour of the cave. The tour is free; suggested donation is $10 a person which is greatly worth it! Bring a cooler with some snacks and beverages for your beach walk. We saw a napping monk seal and enjoyed having less people on the beach.

Something New Every day

By Gebbis |

Love Love Love this walking/biking trail. Can get crowded later the morning and lots of homeless folks around the bathrooms but it was a highlight of our 19 days in Kapaa.

We loved walking and riding our Cruiser bikes up and down the six mile path along Kapaa! It was convenient to our condo!

By Debbie G |

We looked forward to the Path every morning for our daily exercise. It is such a beautiful view of the ocean and all of the foliage along the path. We are headed back there in April 2018, can't wait!!!!

Great path for walking and biking.

By ssaa |

Spent 2 hours walking along the coast, pretty views! A few signs with local historical info as well, as well as public restrooms. Felt safe and a fun low key activity for young kids.

Great morning walk!

By LTRealtor |

This path was only a few blocks from where we were staying. Great place to get in a morning walk and watch the sunrise over the ocean.

An absolute gem

By dawnzascorp |

We stayed at Pono Kai, which has the path right out front. We walked a 5 mile round trip to Kealia Beach, which is beautiful and very popular with surfers. The views along the way were breathtaking in spots. The wild roar of the ocean is awe inspiring. Don’t miss this gem on Kaua’i’s east coast.

My favourite

By Nate C |

This is the best of all paths to ride on, cars not allowed. Safe for kids and stunning oceanfront views. About 5 miles are paved and many miles beyond of trail.

What a wonderful walk!

By ladydi50CA |

So scenic! Multiple photo ops
Wide walking, biking path that’s fairly level with access to several beaches
Dogs must be kept on leash, but otherwise able to use this trail.
7 miles from Kapaa to Anahola planned, but not sure if it’s open that far yet. Most of the path is blacktop.
Several bike rentals in Kapaa. Covered picnic shelters. A few food places on the Kapaa side

Sunrise walk Is so worth it; and, of course, the views at sunset- amazing!

Bike Ride on the Kauai Path

By Bryce M |

We ended up renting bikes after hearing about the path from a local shop keeper. It ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. It is a wide, well kept bike path totally separated from the street and car traffic for about 90% of the time. The views are stunning as you meander your way a long the coast. Well worth the cost of a bike rental for the afternoon. While there are some hills, they aren't steep and easily ridable for all abilities.

Love this trail.

By LotsATravels |

We love to walk this trail, but the best time we have was when we rented a two seat bike for the day. Had a super fun day.

Beautiful scenery, fresh air, well maintained

By GR260 |

Whenever we visit Kauai, we're always sure to visit the bike path at least once. It is a beautifully maintained path with one scenic vista after the next. Whether or bike or foot, don't miss this!

Excellent Walk

By SonomaNut |

Go early and park in lot at trail head before it crosses river.
Hard to see turnoff street toward water, it's just before Shell Station going North or just after going South.
Looks like paved walk goes four or five miles north with condos and hotels to your left and ocean on the right.
We went 2.5 miles going slight up hill toward end and return. Several coffee and juice places just off path.

Bike riding on the path is Awesome

By toniskin |

there are so many bike rental area's 5.00-10.00 each go get one and ride along the ocean in the ocean mist.

Great bicycle path

By Simon Blumb |

Great bicycle path with a beautiful view of the beach areas. Close to the hotel area and easy to ride.

Bike or Walk The Path

By FrequentTraveler2010 |

This a nice paved trail along the ocean where you can walk or ride bikes (rentals in Kapa'a). We started the trail at Kealia Beach where a large map of the trail is displayed and walked to the old Pineapple Dump. Next time we'll rent bikes and do the whole trail.

Loved it

By ZJ-2018 |

Beautiful views. Great walk and photography opportunities. A must visit place on your next trip to Kauai.

Beautiful way to capture the beauty of the ocean in the Kapaa area.

By housegirl |

I rented a trike and rode the approximately 4 mile long path that boarders the ocean/ beaches north of Kapaa. This is easily walked (there are some gentle inclines) but the trike was a great way to travel! Rented in it downtown Kapaa.

Beautiful views and beautifully maintained biking/walking path

By Michelle P |

We rent a couple of cruising bikes and decided to bike the Kauai Path this morning. I'll be the first to admit that I am not a cyclist but on a comfortable cruiser and a beautifully paved pathway, it was made easy for me! The views are friendly, the folks walking along or cycling the pathways say Aloha each time you pass by that it made for a great morning! On my next trip to Kauai I may have to find a condo/hotel near the town of Kapaa so I can enjoy this area more often.

Beautiful place for a bike ride

By JoeFromAtlanta |

Beautiful views, easy access, nice path with comfortable terrain. Made for a nice afternoon ride and provided great photo opportunities.

Beautiful nice path for biking or walking

By TruongFamily |

We took a two hours bike ride along coastline but wish we had more times since the bike rental shop closed at 5pm. It was such a beautiful view of ocean and all of foliage along the path. It was an easy bike ride we rode for 2 hours not feel any tiredness but refreshing. My 10 yrs old boy really love it. Highly recommend.

Best Views of Paradise!

By Laura W |

On our last day in Kauai, we rented bikes and enjoyed a scenic ride along this whole path. It was one of the highlights of my trip. The path goes right along the coast for exceptional views of the shoreline. Very peaceful and serene way to soak in the scenery of Kauai. I highly recommend spending some time here if you like to walk or ride bike. We rented bikes from Hele right on the highway as you drive through town. Very friendly place for an inexpensive bike rental!

Great path

By outandabout33 |

This is a great path for a walker or cyclist.
Just a shame America / Hawaii does not do beach side cafe,s / bars !!

Good hike path for family

By Michael T |

Good hike. Not too difficult. Suitable for family with young children. Come during a time that’s not too hot or too cold.

Nice path along the coast

By JonoCono |

The Kauai path offers nice views of the coastline and refreshing Ocean breezes. It's a great path for walking, running, biking etc. Depending on where you're staying in Wailua or Kapaa you may need to drive to the path as we did. We went for a hour long walk on the path and really enjoyed it. It wasn't busy at all when we went for a walk. If there is full sun and no cloud cover it's wide open so dress appropriately or wear sun screen.

Take a walk

By pepperman |

Walk the path, look at the sights and find the little seashells where they pile up. Bridges to cross and lots of interesting spots. This is free and easy.

Beautiful views, but a bit unsavory

By OneLuckyMom_12 |

I walked this in mid day on a weekday and I saw several rather dicey individuals participating in dubious activities. Someone was clearly dealing drugs (I saw 4 transactions as I walked past), there was a drunk woman drinking a bottle of jack and screaming her dislike of humanity, then there were the two guys, I'm pretty sure where painting a bike they had just stolen. SO...it was gorgeous, on the Coast, but you probably don't want to go it alone.

Great Views While Hiking

By Sheri102 |

We hiked along the beaches and the paved trails for miles and even saw monk seals sunning themselves and whales breaching out in the ocean. There are toilet facilities and showers along the way as well as covered picnic areas.

A must see for a bike ride or walk

By M H |

This path runs right along the beach and it amazing for a bike ride or walk. My wife and I actually did the entire path twice the second week of March 2017 and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting. Rent a bike from Hele On Kauai Bike Rentals like we did (twice) and do the entire path.

Romantic Ride

By HimalayM |

We rented bikes from Hele and rode one the tracks along the beach, it was not crowded and had some nice views around, made our valentines day special.

Great beach walk!

By JerichoGirl |

There is a long path along the beach, great for waking or bicycle riding. There are many covered picnic tables along the route what was interesting is how many religious people were sitting and waiting to talk to you, though they were not aggressive, pleasant and willing to chat if you wanted to.

Multi use path

By Rachel A |

We rented bikes from our hotel in Kapaa and cycled north to the end of the path. Beautiful scenery along a well built gently sloping path. There are frequent shelters along the route with roof, table and benches. The path is separate from the road but shared by cyclists and walkers, so stay aware for other path users

Beautiful views, easily accessible

By oooom |

I have hiked and biked this path many times. Spectacular views along the coast and easily accessible for people with some mobility issues.

Beautiful views!

By DCW_10 |

This walk/bike path has some beautiful views! We rented beach cruiser bikes from Kapaa Beach Shop. The path is right behind their building. Loved the wide path so the oncoming traffic can pass easily. Biking on this path was one of my favorite things we did on the island.

Fantastic Scenery

By Mary B |

Whether you go on foot or bicycle, this path offers hours of breath-taking scenes. I rode the entire path several times and still could not get enough. It is a nice wide path following the coast with several places to enter and exit the path. Excellent.

Great bike Ride at ocean

By travelandmore300 |

WE rented some Beach Cruiser bikes at Hele rental, they Are friendly and Price is reasonable ($5 per Hour), bikes Are Not New but Fine for the easy Ride beside the Ocean, which is easy, good with Kids and with stunning views

A Must do for kauai Holiday

Biking this path was one of the highlights of our trip

By Pepper |

We followed the beach and it was one gorgeous sight after another, culminating in sighting whales ( we were here in late December). A marvelous path -wish it were even longer.

Sketchy area close to sunset

By Nathan901 |

This trail has beautiful views and is very well paved but my wife and i never got to walk very far on it. We attempted a walk around 530 pm and felt a bit unsafe with the large populations of vagrants/ homeless that seemed to be on and surrounding the trail.

paradise beauty

By kajbar2 |

walking the beaches and trails is the best way to really get to see the island in all its beauty. Also a chance to meet the locals.

Easy Trail with ocean views

By CACruzer |

Trail runs along ocean and offers great views of water, canals, homes, pesky roosters and chickens, and offers access to shops, restaurants and food trucks in Kapaa.

best bike path in all the islands

By Craig m |

The views alone do this path justice. It's well travelled and nicely kept up as they do a good job of taking care of it. I would love to bike this each morning if I could, just one of the 1000 reasons to live on Kauai. You won't find any better ocean views on any other island as I have been to the 4 main ones and this path has it all.

Great place to walk or bike bike

By Denverdebby1 |

Smooth, well marked paved trail. Enjoyed by all ages and felt safe during day. Pitch dark and not lighted at night. Daytime busy but not crowded. Public restrooms scattered along. Historical interpretive signs are interesting but many have been sea etched difficult to read.
Beautiful scenery along coast!

No better seaside walk, anywhere

By Jeff V |

Anyone visiting Kauai should be required to try this walk. The views are a perfect 10, and there's multiple places along the way for stopping to swim or snorkel or just relax. This includes some less-accessible beaches (for those not using the path). Bike or hike.....either one is awesome.

Great for running

By Jan P. Š |

Its very cool place for all day sports activities like running, bike or just walk. Really good job for tourists.

Walk, bike, jog

By griswald d |

Nice paved path along beach with access to different beaches and a half block from Kapaa town. Smooth and flat: watch out for chickens!

Great way to spend some time in Kauai

By Harry__Hood95 |

My wife and I rented bikes and road the path on a sunny morning. It was a great way to spend some time and take in some of Kauai’s natural beauty. The trail is very easy to ride, nice and level and paved the whole way. There are a few nice beaches along the way, with several great photo opportunities or spots to stop for a picnic if you want. I’m already planning to spend the next couple mornings going for a run on the path.

Kauai Path

By JBEAClan |

Really nice path - first part of it is in Kapaa and is ok - not the greatest scenery but nice to be able to walk along the ocean. The second half is really nice. We rented bicycles at a local shop and rode the whole thing in just over an hour. Donkey Beach at end of path is gorgeous.

We Love this path, walk or ride!

By John B |

This time we decided to rent bikes and ride the path! What an amazing afternoon with family and friends. It is hard not to stop and take pictures of the amazing scenery while taking a nice ride. I highly recommend this for a first or second day in Kauai afternoon! or take extra time and stop for Nom and other food truck fare along the way!

Bike or Walk

By paul60ii |

Paved biking/walking trail along the east coast of Kauai starting near Kapaa. Runs for nearly four miles. Lots of places to rent bikes in Kapaa. we walked it on a beautiful day and it was scenic.

Each year is a little different but in a good way...

By Ticolover |

We most frequently walk from the Waipouli area up to the end of Kappa; but sometimes we've walked all the way to Kealia. Not too crowded & most folks are using the path for exercise or enjoyable bike/walk jaunts. There were a few locals hanging out around the bathrooms at the bridge just south of Pono Kai but they were not threatening.

Overall a nice safe place for all - including families with kiddos.

We also did one walk from Kealia Beach all the way to the north end at Anahola - that's our favorite stretch... not as many people and we saw whales & lots of sea birds.

Nice walk...No Bike Needed

By Randall G |

I walked about 11 miles round trip down this path...
Who needs a bike when you can walk? It's a nice stroll convenient and you can walk to get closer to the beach whenever you feel like it....
It's picturesque you don't feel like you are in a rush...the wind and sun are both honing in on you....
You can explore more if you walk as well....
Definitely worth taking your time to enjoy this PATH!
I wish my backup battery didn't malfunction on my phone...or I could've taken more pics without worrying about how long the phone would last!
If you jog or run you can do this quicker but I had time to kill...

Loved Biking and Walking on the Path!

By SoCalGirl533 |

We spent a week at the Kono Pai Resort and it backs up to the Kauai Path. We rented bikes for several days and enjoyed ourselves biking to each end of the path. Lots to see along the way, beaches to swim at and food truck to eat at! We also took several evening strolls along the path and even got up once and enjoyed the sunrise on the beach from the path! A must do in Kapaa!

Best walking/jogging path you'll ever see!

By Mitch M |

On the surface, this is just a few miles long walking path. But the whole thing is by the ocean and beautiful the whole time. Definitely check it out if you have some spare time to take a walk!

Easy & safe with beautiful views!

By travelwhere |

My friend and I chose to do a walk along this walking/bike path. We parked & started near the the bike rental on Kou street. We walked over 6 miles round-trip. Our weather can be triple digits at home (The central valley of California) So We were excited to walk in 80° temperatures. What we didn’t know, is what 77% humidity feels like. We were worn out just walking in the humidity!
We were glad we did it and we would recommend it. It was nice to finish up our day eating at the Chicken in the barrel on the corner.

Great Scenery and some almost deserted beaches

By AZtarheelTucson |

Bike path is about 2.5 miles long. Goes along beautiful beach and awesome views. Donkey Beach (one the Kauai Nude beach, but sadly no more) is a long strip of sand. I typically see 0-10 people on the entire beach (I spend about 6 month a year here). It is about 1/2 mile north of Kealia parking lot. An easy walk, and the path down to the beach is reasonably gentle. Really nice bike ride to the end and some cool tide pools along the way.

Bike riding and fresh air

By Marta Z |

Stop by Coconuts bike rental and rent a bike for a few hours. The 6 mile
Trail is flat, with great views of the Ocean.

Fun place to ride a bike ( several rentals nearby)

By CACrab |

We rented from Coconut Coasters. The path going north (~3.5 mi to the end of the path) of CC is more scenic...spectacular than the 1.5 mi section going south of CC.

A Kauai must!

By HelloBigMamma |

We cycled the Kauai Path several times for the full length. It was so nice to see so many people using the path, from young to old; walkers, joggers, cyclers, and lots of baby strollers. There are a few places to pull over so you can sit and just enjoy the view, which is spectacular.

Kapaa, you made a real good investment when you built this path.

beautiful and relaxing ride

By Sundiegans |

Highly recommended! We biked north for a few miles stopping at every opportunity to take pictures. We stopped a lot because the water is just so beautiful.

Great idea. Great place

By JesterB23 |

The path is great. Reasonably quiet with the constant sound of the ocean. You can step onto the beach most anywhere and it's great for bikes.

Last hurrah!

By Jessica H |

We went on our final day because we had time between Hotel check-out and I our flights. We rented beach cruiser bikes for $5 each and set off on the path. I think we covered about 7 miles round trip and we got to watch the waves and people enjoying the shoreline. Plus, there was a whale breaching in the distance as we were riding along the beach!! The views were beautiful and it was a great way to cap off our trip.

Nice short trail.

By lilguy46 |

My wife and I rented bikes and rode the trail to the end and back. Some nice ocean scenery along the whole trail. Lots of lava rock. Wish the trail went longer and it only took about hour to ride to the end and back. Thought we would have spent more time on the trail. Nice trail, just lot long enough for us to do again. Trail is only a couple miles long.

Breath taking views

By LynetteRehma |

If you are ready to have your breath taken away, get up and head to the path to awaken your senses. The sunrise is well worth the early morning rising. Get out there and walk towards Donkey Beach.

Awesome Bike Ride!

By TravelingCirque |

Very easy path for biking or jogging. Wife and I rented bikes from the nearby Hele on Kauai Bike Rentals and rode the entire way to Donkey Beach and back. This was our unexpected highlight of our trip. Offers picturesque viewpoints the entire way there. Definitely bring some water, because there are parts of the path where we rode in the sun for a while and it gets hot! Luckily, the path seemed to slightly incline on the way there, and the ride back seemed even easier. Had good phone reception the entire way too.

Easy, flat biking!

By Lisa S |

We rented bikes and rode both directions for a total of 7 miles. Rented bikes without gears as they just aren’t needed! Very enjoyable ride. Lots of beaches so lots of bathroom opportunities if needed. We began about 9:50 am and by noon the path was much busier with runners/walkers and other bike riders.

Great Ocean Views

By Gillamite |

Rented a bike and went from Wailua to end of the paved path on the other side of Kealia Beach. We have been to Kauai 4 times and have stayed in the Kapaa area for the last 3 years but never used the bike path . I might have to buy a cheap bike when we come back next year!

Easy Bike Ride Along Coast

By DebbieT11_11 |

If you love to ride bikes and want a flat easy path, this is the place! What's not to love about riding bikes along the coast of Kapaa? This path has lovely views of the ocean with opportunities to stop anywhere along the way on grassy areas with swaying palm trees. Another plus is the very inexpensive cost of the one speed cruising bikes. As of January 2020, the walk in cost (no need to reserve ahead of time) was just five dollars per hour! You can't beat that! Aloha!

Didn’t Feel Safe

By Marie F |

The views were great, but there were A lot of street people along the path- not somewhere I would want to be as a tourist. Seemed to be narcotic activity and homeless people living out of cars parked along the path.

Be sure to rent bikes (it's cheap) and ride this fabulous and easy trail. If runs right beside the ocean giving you cool breezes and fantastic views. Do not miss your chance to do this!

nice ride but wish it was longer

The path is wide and safe and quite flat so no hills to worry about but it ends suddenly and you need to come back. wish it was longer

Nice path

Great path for biking or hiking or running. Goes right along the ocean. Great sunrises from the path.

No brainer, just go!

Okay, if you are in Kauai and especially in Kapaa, you should should most very definitely experience this path! It is spectacular in all sorts of weather ( except maybe torrential rain). At the right times of the year you will often see humpback whales blowing and if you are lucky, breaching. You may see monk seals and a variety of birds and the ocean can range from calm water with locals fishing along the shores to huge crashing surf. We love this path and try to go every day while we are in Kauai. From its official start to the end, going north is about 4 miles, an 8 mile round trip if you choose to do all of it. If you are considering renting bikes, by all means do this. BUT... if you are here for a longer term, maybe 3 weeks or more, there is another MUCH cheaper option. Renting a bike by the week costs about 65 dollars a week per bike and that is about the cheapest rate we have found. However if you check on the Hele On broke rentals in Kappa, the owners, (very nice people), will often offer you the choice of going to Walmart and buying a basic beach coaster bike.... no gears, no hand brakes, no cables at all. These can be had for about 120 dollars. You can use them for as long as you are staying and then Franny at Hele On will buy them back from you at the end of your stay for half price as long as they are still in decent condition. So in our case, my wife and I are in the area for 4 weeks. Renting at 65 dollars per week per bike means we would pay 260 total per bike times 2 for a grand total of 520 dollars. Instead, we bought 2 Huffy beach coaster bikes at Walmart for 120 per bike... total 240 dollars. At the end of our 4 week stay, Franny buys the two of them back for half price, ( $120 total) meaning that for 4 weeks, instead of a total in excess of 500 dollars for 2 bikes, we are paying a total of 120. Best bike deal we have ever found on the island. May not always be available but we have had really good luck with this and enjoy riding this amazing coastal path pretty much every morning.

Looking for a fun, easy family activity? Rent bikes and ride the Kapa’a Trail. The path is wide and paved, the slope is gentle or totally flat. Pack a picnic lunch and take a break at one of the shelters, a park picnic table or a beach. From downtownnyou have approximately 4 or so miles each way—north to Donkey Beach or south to Lydgate Park. We prefer north, only because it follows the coastline, away from the road and is spectacularly scenic. Besides, who can resist the photo op at the pineapple dump?!!!

Easiest Shore Path on the Island

By Vincent M |

When locals and TripAdvisor reviewers, speak of the “Kauai Path”: they’re talking about the Kauai Multiuse Path, aka the Ke Ala Hele Makalae Path. I don’t blame locals for simply dropping “Multiuse.” But the fact is that you whether you bike it or hike it, you’re going to like it. You can skateboard it but I only saw one skateboarder on it. You could divide this path into three parts: (1) along Kealia Beach, the main public beach in Kapaa; (2) south of Kealia; and (3) north of Kealia. Bicyclists can easily do all three. Hikers might want to consider doing one half one day, and the other half on another. Or, just do the most scenic part. Depending on what you consider scenic, you might opt for along Kealia Beach itself, so you can check out the sunbathers and surfers; but why not just go to the beach if that’s what you want to watch? The path south from the beach involves relatively low and small coast formations and I didn’t think it particularly interesting. It’s not bad, mind you (see Kauai Path So 1 and Kauai Path So 2 photos); but I recommend you go north instead. The public restrooms are on the extreme N end of Kealia Beach. North of there, the path almost immediately gets considerably more interesting. Capes and headlands are more rugged and scenic (see Kauai Path No 1 photo). Coves are more picturesque (see Kauai Path No 2 photo). You get to see—and walk to the edge of—a historic old Pineapple Dump (the cannery trimmed, cored, and canned pineapples for six days and on the Sabbath, instead of resting, they tossed factory loads of pineapple husks and cores into the ocean; see Kauai Path No 3 photo). You pass right by an historical old burial site: it’s actually Historical Site 50 30-08-1899, which might mean that whoever is buried there was planted on August 30, 1899, but that’s probably too logical (see Kauai Path No 4 photo). If you’re lucky you might spot monk seals; best to have binocs if you do. When you reach the north end of Paliku Beach, you can enjoy walking through a scenic tree tunnel that cuts across to Kapoli Street (see Kauai Path No 5 photo). The Kauai Path dead-ends about 50 paces north of the tree tunnel, but if you’ve come this far, you might as well go all the way to the end. If you’re visiting Kauai from Down Under, and you’ve ever taken the path from Bondi Beach down to Coogee, you’ll immediately recognize the similarities: blue waters, bracing wind, gorgeous seascapes, and well-paved walkways, (even though the flora is radically different). The Kauai Path is also very reminiscent of Montevideo’s Rambla, which runs for miles along the north bank of the Rio Plate (there is no south bank so for all practical purposes it runs along the South Atlantic). The Bondi Beach Walk and the Rambla do have some things that might usefully be copied here, if Kauai County’s willing to expend a bit of money: first, there are convenient places to sit and rest along their lengths (hikers walking the Kauai Path will find a few benches, but they might be a mile apart) and second, the Rambla in particular punctuates the walk with various stations where you can take a break by doing various healthy exercises (the Marina Walk in San Francisco does the same, or did before current construction). Still, with or without benches and exercise stations, the Kauai Path is remarkable because it’s paved and you can literally push a stroller along it. Most paths on Kauai are unpaved, and quite a few of them are downright arduous. This one affords stunning scenery, with a leisurely stroll that virtually anyone can easily do! The easiest way to get to the Kauai Multiuse Path, is to park at the north end of Kealia Beach, which is at Highway 56 and Kealia Road. From the north end of Kealia Beach to the northern end of the Kauai Path is about 1.6 miles, so a walk there and back is just over 3 miles.

We rented bicycles and rode north to the end of the path. It was a nice quiet ride up the coastline with beautiful ocean views.

Always Nice Walk

By SonomaNut |

Every time is a pleasure. Decide how far you want to walk, find appropriate parking and get going.
Wonderful views and places to stop and enjoy.
Water and restrooms along the way.
Walk as far as you want, a little up hill if your going counter clockwise and when concrete ends you can keep going but what’s beyond is unknown to us.

Beautiful walk/run/bike trail

the Kauai Path in Kapaa is a beautiful way to see the Pacific Ocean. Rent a bike for a couple of hours or more and find beaches have a picnic and relax

Excellent feature of eastern Kauai

By Greg J |

This is very accessible and is used by walkers and bikes. The sections north and south of Kapa'a are the nicest and don't have as much litter/garbage or questionable characters hanging around. I understand that they are working on extended the trail even further and are talking about adding similar paths on the other sides of the island. Great ocean scenery and a nice, level path.

Bike the Kauai Path!

Rent a bike, and bike this path. It took us an hour to bike out and back, and was such a fun ride with gorgeous sites! Definitely a highlight of our trip!

Great bike path

Easy to ride the entire path in 1hour on a bike. About 10 miles round trip. Bike rentals in Kappa. Several beaches along the way including a good surfing beach. Lots of whales to see.

Easy, Perfect, Uncrowded Path for a Bike Ride

By Jill Z |

This path is a hidden gem. It is paved for over 5 miles, from just south of Kapaa Beach Park to just north of Donkey Beach. For that entire distance, there are no significant hills and no cars to worry about, and you are treated to unobstructed views of the ocean and shoreline. (The path continues north of Donkey Beach, but it is a narrow dirt trail at that point -- great if you are walking or have a mountain bike. You can also continue south of the path, but then you're on city sidewalks and dealing with cars. Not so picturesque.)

This is the perfect activity for those days when the sun is hiding (so being on the beach is less appealing) or when a recent rainstorm has made the snorkeling no good. We biked it on an overcast day with a light drizzle, and it was cool and comfortable and wonderful.

We rented 1-speed beach cruiser bikes from Coconut Cruisers for a half day (4 hours for $18). We stopped frequently to watch seals and birds and to admire the vistas, and we stopped for lunch at one of the food trucks near where we rented bikes. We did the full length of the path in both directions and still returned the bikes half an hour before they we due in.

The only thing I wish we'd done differently is I wish we'd packed a picnic lunch so we could've stopped to eat at one of the many picnic tables we biked past.

I highly recommend visiting this path on the east shore.

Perfect for running, cycling, walking, etc.

Went for a 8km run here, absolutely stunning. I did my run late in the evening so I wasn't baking in the sun. I'm hoping to get another one in for a sunrise.

Best part of our trips!

My wife and I have been coming to Kauai for years and stay near Kapaa. The walking path is a real gem where you can walk on a paved path right off the beach. If you park at Keālia Beach north of Kapaa and walk north, there is no traffic noise at all. South of Keālia Beach you can get close to traffic on and off. The whole path is wonderful for walking and bike riding. Best time of day (in our opinion) is about 30 minutes before sunrise. It's cooler and you get to experience Kauai's amazing sunrises! We have also see whales from time to time and this past January saw a large pod of dolphins - a first for us! Don't pass this up - you'll be glad you went!

We loved this walk/hike along the trail and bluffs overlooking the ocean. A great way to spend the afternoon. We watched the birds and the water breaking on the rocks. Beautiful!

Great Path for walking or riding bikes

Great path for walking or riding bikes. Just watch out for the chickens that may want to cross the path.
