National treasure

By Amos C |

One of our favorite sites. The history speaks for itself. The only reason I didn’t give it a 5 star is because they have installed ramps in front of it which takes away some of the awesomeness

Be Ware of Ice cream Van scam!!!

By Sonia K |

The place is amazing with a spectacular view of all the sites. A long walk upto 50 minutes from Capital Hills to Lincoln memorial .
I gave it 1 star due to Ice cream van scam because they were not controlled by local authority.
Be Ware! Make sure you ask for price before you buy because I was charged 60 dollars for 4 scoops of basic ice cream which is ripped off.
There were more police patrolling the memorial sites but no checks on these scammers!

A Must-See for All Americans!

By G.See! |

A sight to behold in person! Pictures don't do it justice. Deeply moving experience to stand before Lincoln's statue and read his words on his sides. We went at night. We imagine it would be just as amazing in the day. Only thing we didn't enjoy was the smell of weed everywhere.

Stunning and peaceful

By rmpangui |

A glimpse into the history of the US. The unionstates are up above the pillars on the outside and two of Lincoln-s speechs are engraved on the side walls. The vietnam statue and Korean are close by.

Nice but under construction

By s david |

They are doing construction but the view and statue are amazing. You should take a photo of the Washington monument when you are up on the steps. It’s a quick place to see as most of it is blocked off

Humility and the duty to transmit

By pneumotox |

Such a building cannot leave anyone indifferent. A majestic building with a statue the ancient size of the Greek cities. A breathtaking view of the mall to the capitol. To do day and night!

Impressive Memorial to Our Greatest President

By TravelingSoccerLoon |

If you have to choose one monument to visit in Washington DC, it should be the Lincoln Memorial. A fitting tribute to arguably the greatest president in the history of the country. Completed in 1922, it is a beautiful marble structure with the appearance of a Greek temple. In addition to the massive sculpture of Abe, engraved on the inside walls of the memorial are two of his most famous speeches, his Second Inaugural Speech and The Gettysburg Address. The view from the steps of the memorial of the Reflecting Pool and National Mall with the Washington Monument and Capitol Building in the distance is incredible. This has also been the sight of many protests and historic moments in the civil rights movement including where Martin Luther King delivered his "I Have a Dream" Speech in 1963. The Lincoln Memorial takes on an extra level of beauty after dark when it is illuminated. It is also less busy than during the day. It is pretty cool to walk around the backside of the memorial so that you can see the Eternal Flame at Arlington Cemetary burning in the distance across the Potomoc. The Memorial can be visited 24 hours a day although Park Rangers are available from 930am-10pm. The nearest Metro is at Foggy Bottom which is a 17-minute walk away.

Surreal experience

By Jessica |

Surreal moment seeing this in person! After seeing it in films and online since a child it was incredible to be there and see it in person. The statue is bigger than I thought too.
I will say the walk up the steps was quite difficult on such a hot day and after walking around DC all day in the sun it did nearly end us haha. I believe it is accessible for disabled people but still just a warning it's steep!
Worth visiting!

Great place!

By teknoge3k |

The Lincoln Memorial is a beautiful place. Somewhere to relax and reflect on the past. The area is very clean especially for how many people visit every day there.

Wow!

By LindsayNjoe429 |

Pictures, books, and TV does not come close to seeing this in real life. It is such a gorgeous tribute to Abraham Lincoln and the amazing changes he made. It is well worth a visit. Although, under a little construction while we were there, it was still so amazing and beautiful. I’m so glad we had the opportunity to see this in person and I highly recommend you See it as well.

Excellent

By Alana G |

The Lincoln Memorial was amazing! It was even larger than we expected. We enjoyed visiting. It was crowded, but it was also cherry-blossom season.

To have

By jean-charles e |

Like in a film... Besides the memorial (unfortunately under construction at the moment), very beautiful views of the mall or behind Arlongton

Incredible

By MrMrsHappyR |

This incredible monument sits at the Western end of the National Mall. Also one off the most popular tourist sites in DC. Get here before 9am to beat the crowds and get the best photographs. During Sep 2023, there was a lot of renovation work on the outside so it was difficult to get photos of the exterior. Luckily the Lincoln statue inside was easy to see

Iconic place

By Julien M |

Symbolic place, you should go during a visit to Washington DC. The place is very busy but it is possible to stay and observe the details of the memorial as well as the view.

VERY GOOD

By SUNILDASWANEY |

It was really delighful for us to admire THE LINCOLN MEMORIAL from the closest point possible and soak in the surrounding atmosphere. .Nice to be part of history in some way or the other.

Monuments at night

By Lisa G |

Do not go see the Monuments at night! They are all very very dimly lit and are extremely difficult to see. Can hardly read any of the inscriptions and the details of the monuments are hidden in the dark.

A must do while in DC

By BusyBizTraveler |

One of my all time favorites in DC. Lincoln has set the tone of our nation and I truly feel that a visit to his memorial is a must do for every visitor

Great monument to a great man

By phvi2617 |

The Lincoln Memorial is an iconic and majestic monument. The words of Lincoln's Gettysburg and second inaugural addresses, carved into the walls, take on special meaning in this inspirational place.

It does get busy, but it wasn't terribly crowded. Be sure to also visit the spot where Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his famous "I Have a Dream Speech."

A great national monument

By ItchyFeet |

A lot of the monuments, have construction going on to remodel and update. There was some scaffolding and wood around the monument but you were still able to get to see Lincoln. I always like seeing the monuments at night when there are less people and the lighting is really good. I was last here about 15 years ago and it’s always cool to see the monuments again. Definitely a must see you when you’re in Washington DC.

Park Police are strict!

By Erin H |

I have lived in Washington for 20 years, and used to work in very close proximity to this Monument for almost 15 of those. So I have been to this Monument many times, and sat on its steps to eat lunch and have gone during work hours just as a little break to sit back and awe at. Of course I have taken several guests there at night, and it's really beautiful and a magical place to be. I do recall hanging out at the monument with an ex-boyfriend and we had coffee with us. We attempted to sneak around to the back side and consume our hot beverages during the cold weather as it was raining. It really would have been a truly romantic evening and a much more memorable experience had the Park police not kicked us out for having food and drink, or rather drink on the premises. This was just coffee mind you and nothing illegal. We weren't doing anything else other than just wanting to have a private defensive place to sit and enjoy a record and the Magical atmosphere. So if you do go, I recommend you don't bring any hot beverages, or any food or beverage that would be consumed on the monument premises. It's a wonderful place to go and be pensive, but I think they want people to just come up see Mr Lincoln, take a few pictures and then go.

Lincoln

By Andres72423 |

Iconic tourist spot in D.C. The Great Emancipator. What a site to behold. In troubling times there is always a need for leaders who lead. An amazing architectural accomplishment. Abraham Lincoln looking over the National Mall.

Be careful during work

By sgavoyages |

The best known memorial dating only from the 1930s. The view is magnificent all the way to the congress. Lots of people all the time. Work prevents you from going to the stairs.

Awe inspiring

By daearz77 |

While running in DC, I decided to see some of the monuments. The Lincoln Memorial never disappoints. Even though this is my third visit here, it’s always a great experience to visit this memorial.

Like a Greek temple

By Mitek25 |

It really is an incredible building in the style of a Greek temple on the height with columns - inside is the Lincolns statue

AWESOME

By Juan Carlos G |

This monument dedicated to President Lincon is truly impressive, imitating a Greek temple and inside is located this impressive statue of the president seated and made of marble
The details are really very well executed and well carved
This monument is included within this impressive park dedicated to the fallen in the different wars in which the United States has intervened.

Worthwhile

By orl |

It really is impressive. I cycled there using city bikes. Cycling through the greenery in cherry blossom season added to the experience. City bikes dock right beside it. The reflection pool builds up to the experience. I actually think it is the most lifelike statue that I have seen.

A Must See in Washington DC

By Boyd J |

We visited twice, once on our own in the day time and later, on a night time tour. Both times it was crowded (though less so at night). In the day time it was very crowded, and it is worth patiently navigating your way through the crowds to view this impressive monument up close and take in the speech inscribed in stone, and other information about the 16th President. (A little useful tip: underneath, there are public toilets - not always easy to find in US cities).

Lincoln Memorial Day or Night

By Gibson and Pearl |

We visited the monument in both the daytime and nighttime. Pictures at night turn out very well because of the lighting. Yes, there was a mass of people there both times.
Personally, I wish all visitors would be more respectful of all the monuments!

I am always amazed at the logistics used to build these monuments. Anyone have a "sliderule"?
Remember while visiting any of the historical sights in the summer it will most probably be very warm. We had water with us at all times.

There are lots and lots of food trucks and other venders at the locations.

Must do!!

By Raymond Abeltun |

The entire park area is beautiful. But the Lincoln Memorial is something special.

The architecture is quite spectatcular. The way that you dont really see the lincoln statue before going inside was very fascinating use of the stones they have used to build it.

You can feel the importance of Lincoln for sure.

A wonderful and fitting memorial honoring Abraham Lincoln

By Ward D |

The Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. is located at the western end of the National Mall at the opposite end of a long grass strip from the Capitol building. Visiting the Lincoln Memorial can be challenging if you are driving since finding parking can be a challenge due to its central location. I recommended utilizing public transportation or parking at nearby garages and lots, such as the Union Station Parking Garage or the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center Parking Garage. You could also take a guided tour or utilize ride-sharing services. I rented a car and toured several sites that evening

The main entrance to the monument is by broad steps on the eastern entrance. As you approach the memorial, the grandeur of the structure becomes increasingly apparent. The iconic 19-foot seated statue of President Lincoln commands the attention of all who visit. The larger-than-life figure exudes a sense of strength and wisdom, while the inscription of his immortal Gettysburg Address and Second Inaugural Address reminds us of his profound impact on the nation.

The memorial's interior is a large chamber, adorned with murals depicting significant moments from Lincoln's life. The marble walls and wide spaces create an atmosphere of reverence and reflection. From the steps of the memorial, visitors are treated to panoramic views of the Reflecting Pool, the Washington Monument, and the U.S. Capitol, forming a breathtaking vista that encapsulates the spirit of the nation. It is not only a tribute to a remarkable leader but also serves as a gathering place for historic events and peaceful demonstrations. Its significance in American history and its architectural grandeur make it a must-visit destination for locals and tourists alike. The lighting on the steps at night is very limited so step carefully. If you were only going to see one monument in DC, I would choose this one.

Rest

By Dima R |

A very interesting place. I recommend everyone to go there.. it’s great for a walk with family or even alone...

Still accessible though undergoing renovation in 8/2023

By BougieKnight |

From afar, it looks as if the memorial is shut down. Wooden construction boards and scaffolding everywhere on the monument; the steps are half blocked by this, Lincoln statue is not visible, etc... Many people turning around and walking away. As we walked closer it was apparent there IS the ability to walk to the main stature, with a short line to wait in. There is indeed access to the full statue and memorial writings. This was a relief.

Under construction

By Chloe Thomas |

Sadly, the Lincoln Memorial was under construction when we visited, but it was still a great experience. I would love to visit again when I have more time to read and pay close attention

President Lincoln Monument

By Connie M |

Long walking the monument but so worth the time love two options for getting to the top steps or ramp very helpful and kept the heavy foot traffic moving

Truly spectacular

By Bea |

It is one of the most spectacular monuments we have ever seen. As the name suggests it is devoted to the 16th president of the USA, Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln was assassinated on April 14, 1865 and two years later Congress incorporated the Lincoln Monument Association to build a memorial.
The Lincoln Memorial stands on the National Mall. From the Lincoln Memorial you can have a wonderful view on the Washington Memorial and the reflecting pools.
I would recommend visiting it in the evening, too. It looks really spectacular.
All memorials in Washington are free of costs.

Just as expected!!

By Deana H |

This is a stunning memorial. The only thing we didn't know at the time was that there is an elevator!! Definitely would have been helpful for my aging mother.

Nice to See

By AdorableK |

It is always nice to see history. I have been a few times but the views never get old. The walk is farther than it seems because the buildings are so large.

Outstanding Memorial

By ROBERT T |

A must see. This is an important Memorial in American History. Does not take a lot of time to visit.

History

By Kristie G |

This IS American history. It is under construction but you can still get access to see it. Definitely a must see when in D.C.

Lincoln Memorial is a must

By Tammy W |

It was amazing to see this in person. The enormous size is NOT portrayed in any photos. Gorgeous building with beautiful views.
It was very hot when we were there and we had already walked an enormous amount so we took the elevator up and the stairs down. The elevator is at the base of the memorial on the left by the restrooms. The gift shop is VERY small and not air conditioned but had a few really neat items.

Very hot in July but smaller crowds at night

By Michelle H |

It was extremely hot but going in the late evening after 8pm, the crowds were smaller and the summer heat cooled down just a little bit. There was free parking on the street after 8pm too. The lighting was great at the Lincoln Memorial but the reflecting pool barely had any lights so it wasn’t too memorable. The Washington Monument reflecting was nice though.

Ever speechless—in the best way:)

By Sarah Merly |

What more can I add? The Lincoln Memorial is truly majestic, always inspiring my heart to care for all my fellow citizens of America. You could live in D.C. all your life and never tire of this wonderful testament to our 16th U.S. President.

Allow a few days to make the most out of this area.

By Dave Jenkins |

You can drive and park in the large lots in and around the Smithsonian area.

Museums and parks all within walking distance from each other. I suppose that depends on how fit you are or not! Also temperature / time of year you visit will determine walking etc.

You can hire bikes and electric scooters to get about too.

Allow at least a day and that will only have you scratching the surface of what to do in this area.

Must do in Washington

By Nicholas T |

This is a must do in Washington DC. Very clean. Must history about Abraham Lincoln. Great views over the reflection pool and the National mall.

Favorite memorial

By Atravellingrunner |

National treasure. Impressive memorial of a great American. Well-maintained and views from every direction give a different optical illusion.

Go see Abe!

By Chris V |

One of the coolest experiences.....and worth the time and effort to see....it is truly awe-inspiring to see in person.

A Majestic Tribute to an American Icon

By Cassandra C |

The Lincoln Memorial in D.C. is awe-inspiring. The grand statue and famous speech inscriptions are deeply moving. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Reflecting Pool and Washington Monument, especially at sunset. A must-visit!

One of Washington's most famous monuments, imposing on the outside, evocative on the inside

By Frozen_72 |

The exterior of the building is splendid, characterized by a large staircase from which you can admire a wonderful view of The Mall up to the Washington Monument. Surrounded by a park where there are also refreshment points, and continuously connected to the rest of The Mall by the Bus Circulator, inside you can admire the very famous statue of Abraham Lincoln, enormous, surrounded by a series of columns that make it from frame. Very suggestive.

As expected. Amazing.

By turgonuk |

Visited as part of a tour. Pretty busy but manageable. Anyone visiting this iconic site expecting it to be deserted will be very surprised. It doesn't take long to view.

Well worth the visit.

By SteveK28762 |

It's exactly what you'd expect... very impressive.
Some renovation work being done when we were there but, hey, it has to be done some time and nothing is inaccessible.

An icon of American history

By Tünde V |

The Lincoln Memorial solemnly commemorates President Abraham Lincoln, and its majestic columns and towering statue evoke dignified respect and contemplation, making it a must-see for anyone exploring Washington, D.C.

Impressive.

By Rob M |

It's one of my favorites. Beautiful details all around. This memorial can be crowded. Be prepared to climb a few steps. There are plenty of vendors selling beverages on a hot (or cold) day.

A must-do

By Kayakgirly |

Always worth a visit when in DC. There’s construction underway so half the stairway leading up to the memorial is closed. This means that the place where Martin Luther King Jr gave his legendary speech is not currently able to be seen. I sincerely hope that when the construction is complete, that location is given the focus it deserves as previously it was lost.

Imposing memorial

By Louise D |

If you are visiting Washington, this is a must. We had seen the outside of the memorial from our open top bus but wanted to return. The memorial is imposing. It is being revamped at present but still well worth a visit.

What a tribute to such a man.

By Pompeylad |

Magical to be here in DC. So much to see and do, so little time. This is one not to miss. The magnificent grandeur of the place….!

Fast and essential ride

By Luciana M |

The place is very beautiful and worth taking a time to appreciate the Memorial. Quick but essential ride. Also make a visit at night, makes all the difference to appreciate day and night

lincoln memorial

By Oumou D |

there is a bit of construction so it blocks the outside view. don't forget to check out the bookstore

The building is being restored

By GabrielaSeevetal |

We reached the Lincoln Memorial on the Circular Line. Unfortunately, construction work is currently taking place here, the building is surrounded by fences. Visitors are guided by stairs. We were able to take a look inside the marble building to "Abraham Lincoln". Turning around you look over the "Reflecting Pool" in the "Constitution Garden" to the "Washington Monument - a nice photo motif.

Construction in progress

By Scott H |

À wonderful memorial to our 16th President that everyone should visit when in DC. Currently in the middle of a 69 million dollar upgrade to the lower level which is scheduled to be completed by 2026. Due to the construction, restrooms are currently relocated nearby.

A must-see when visiting DC.

By Piotr B |

A monumental building in the neoclassical style, the main idea of which is to commemorate one of the first and most distinguished Presidents of the country.
The entire spatial layout is interesting, including not only the meromorial building itself but also the entire Axis with parks and other buildings.

The sheer magnitude is even better than expected

By Joasi23 |

This wonderful memorial is rightly impressive. We stood in awe for a good length of time reading the walls and admiring the statue . Not sure the new addition being constructed is necessary at all , in my opinion the majesty and history speaks for itself in its original form .

Visited in the evening

By Giada M |

If you only want to visit the Lincoln statue in the evening it is very beautiful, perhaps it is better during the day because the park and the fountain are poorly lit and you cannot fully enjoy the view.

Very Impressive Memorial

By Evil_E207 |

An excellent and fitting memorial and one that must be seen. It was very crowded, but that is to be expected. Patience and time. A must see.

Monumental....

By Timezone Travelers |

The only down side to this memorial is the crowds. You have to wait your turn to get a good photo and often times you are disappointed by disrespectful tourist that jump in front of you.

Best monument

By cvon27 |

The best part of my trip to DC was stopping here. It’s actually a lot bigger inside than I was expecting so it was easy to get a good view of the statue even though there was a lot of people in there. The ranger was very nice and answered a question that I had and even shared some additional details about the monument that made it really interesting.

Highly recommend this as a must stop

By Greg2117 |

The Lincoln memorial is a must stop if you are sightseeing. The location is close to several other monuments/memorials. Also it’s a great reminder of how far we have come as a country and how far we have to go.

ICONIC

By FIL M |

If visiting Washington you must attend the Lincoln Memorial. The statue is iconic and the views are truly beautiful. It is well worth the walk. They are carrying out refurbishment to make it even more accessible, which I think is great.

Wise man on a big chair!

By Raintree_Thailand |

The Lincoln Memorial tends to have more impact on visitors than any other in Washington. It's elegant and majestic, with just the right presentation of the profound words and Lincoln's speeches.

A Powerful Tribute to American History 🇺🇸

By Zeeshan Ahmed |

Visiting the Lincoln Memorial was one of the most moving experiences of my trip to Washington, D.C. The sheer scale of the monument, combined with its peaceful atmosphere, makes it a must-see for anyone interested in U.S. history or iconic architecture.

The view overlooking the Reflecting Pool and the Washington Monument is breathtaking, especially during sunrise or sunset. Standing before Lincoln’s statue and reading the inscriptions from his famous speeches reminded me of the enduring values of equality and freedom.

The site is very accessible and well-maintained, with plenty of space to sit, reflect, and take in the significance of it all. I highly recommend taking a moment to simply stand still and absorb the meaning behind this national treasure.

Tip: Go early in the morning or later in the evening to avoid crowds and enjoy the best lighting for photos!

Great Memorial

By C H |

A 'wow' experience and speechless! The sculptor and architect did an awesome job in building the memorial and the Lincoln statue. He looked very real and is a must to visit!

The memorial to the most revered president in US history

By ponan68 |

One of the most visited monuments in the world, immortalized several times in Hollywood films, today the base is being renovated to accommodate a museum dedicated to Lincoln in the future. Very crowded at least in this period

Wonderful, Must See Memorial

By Jill H |

Absolutely beautiful. A wonderful tribute to Abraham Lincoln. Peaceful place. They are doing construction so a temporary handicap/stroller is in place or there are stairsOpen 24 hours a day. Next time I’d line to visit at night. I’m sure it’s beautiful

Must visit at night

By Jo Ann R |

It has been 20 years since we visited DC. We really wanted our 13 year old daughter to experience all of this history. Lincoln Memorial is our favorite. We visited at night and it was spectacular. It was a long walk from the subway in the cold but the experience was definitely worth it. DC has such a peaceful vibe at night. We found scooters so we ended up riding them all the way back to our hotel instead of hopping back on the Metro.

Beautiful monument

By Ludovicouest |

The Lincoln Monument in Washington, D.C is a tribute to the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln.
Located on the National Mall, this memorial is emblematic of Washington with its majestic statue of Lincoln seated and its inscriptions of Lincoln’s famous speeches. It is a powerful symbol of unity and freedom, recalling Lincoln's lasting legacy in American history.

Where History Rocks and Abe Rules!

By Steven G |

The Lincoln Memorial is like a history hug! With its grand marble vibes and Honest Abe statue, it's like stepping into a patriotic daydream. The words on the walls give you serious inspo, and the chill by the reflective pool is perfect for deep thoughts or a picnic. It's basically a giant reminder that history can be cool, and hey, Abe was a legend!

Great memorial but beware construction

By KJ Percy |

Memorial is breathtaking and absolutely worth a visit. I've been before, but wanted to take my family this time (teens). We happened to be there during some construction which meant the stairs (where many people sit, eat, gather) was more than partially blocked, making entering and exiting a bit of a challenge.

Wow, What A View

By Debbiecj |

Everything was wonderful about walking from the monument to the Veterans Memorial, along the Reflection Pool to the Lincoln Memorial which all seemed out of reach distance wise, but it was worth the walk. The real exercise came when walking up the memorial steps...there are a lot of them, but once inside the memorial, the Lincoln Statue feels and is larger than life and the view out toward the capitol is really something to see. I didn't expect to enjoy this part of the trip, but I truly found it remarkable.

Another Bucket List Site

By moodblu |

I had eagerly looked forward to to the Lincoln Memorial, Pres. Lincoln being my most revered President. We were there around sunset, so the picture-taking wasn’t the best. There was a huge accessible ramp constructed to bypass construction taking place, and construction fencing and barriers blocked part of the view of the iconic memorial and statue from below. I walked up the stairs to the inside, though the lighting inside wasn’t great for my pictures at that time of day. I was somewhat dismayed at the numerous teenage students who were milling about, shouting and laughing, and taking selfies, showing no reverence or thought for where they were. Still, standing at the foot of the statue was an awe-inspiring experience to see & ponder. I’ve very glad I went there, and would recommend as a Must-See memorial in Washington DC.

A Must-see Destination

By the_tool_man |

Abraham Lincoln is a storied and important figure in the history of the United States. This monument includes his iconic statue and two of his most famous speeches, the Gettysburg address and his second inaugural address. The building itself is a landmark location for many famous speeches, including Dr. Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech. Standing there and reading the Gettysburg address, I was literally moved to tears. Go early in the morning or at night to avoid the inevitable crowd. Don't miss this.

My favorite of the Memorials

By drccds |

I've been here a few times before but still hit the Lincoln more than once every time I am in DC. There is simply nothing not to like about it. It has everything you could want in such a Memorial. Enough words, just go.

Impressive city, a lot of history.

By Nadia E |

A city with a lot of history, I loved the museums and I think it's great that entry to them, for the most part, is free.

True Hero

By XEbrandon |

The Lincoln Memorial is an iconic tribute to one of America’s most revered presidents. The majestic monument, with its grand steps and striking statue of Abraham Lincoln, offers a powerful and inspirational experience. The views of the Reflecting Pool and the Washington Monument add to the memorial's significance. It's a must-see landmark for anyone visiting Washington, D.C., and a profound reminder of Lincoln's legacy and the ideals he stood for.

Beautiful Memorial

By Victor Fedrizzi |

It is a monumental Memorial with a large Statue in honor of President Lincoln.
All in high standard stones. To get to the Statue I took a walk through the park.

Amazing! Go at night!

By Passport53 |

Traveled there during nighttime tour. It was amazing. Note that there is a bathroom at the base. We walked around worried since our children needed to go badly!

Splendid

By Rituraj M |

History seen for real - very spectacular and must visit.
Try it after sunset too.
The view from there is awesome and many visitors always.

What a beautiful memorial!

By 907blaked |

The size of this memorial is suprisingly large on first view. Walking up the steps to then see the huge statue of Abraham Lincoln is well worth it.

Must See

By heddy g |

Walked all around the reflecting pool and up to all the step to see the memorial up close. It very humbling to be here, read the speaches on the walls and see where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had stood.

Awe Inspiring

By Seamus |

Even for us Canucks, this edifice is not just impressive in size, but meaning for the histories of both our countries. After absorbing the magnificent statue we’ve seen in many films, take the time to reread the Gettysburg Address on the left of this simple space, and Lincoln’s second inaugural address on the right. Then step down the stairs in front to where Martin Luther King gave his “I have a dream speech,” and enjoy this vista over reflecting pond down the Washington Monument.

Amazing

By Cassie S |

This is an amazing memorial. But it's crowded. Don't expect peace and quiet or alone time. This place is packed with people. It's still a must-see and an amazing place to go.

HUGE and impressive

By Sarah C |

The pictures do not do this justice, it's HUGE, the steps up to it add to the sense of grandeur and the views of and from it are incredible. I suspect its always very crowded, but actually that adds to the charm

Great impression of the Lincoln memorial

By Jeroen Lezer |

It was cold january weather but worthwile to see the Lincoln memorial for the 1st time. The pictures and video's were annoyed by loud n notorious Bolivian demonstraters who were protesting against something. I dint care. I only had eye n attention for the Memorial. Finally I have seen it.

Momentous Spot

By AlexanderD |

This is a must-see if you only have one shot at Washington or you live far away and know it’s not going to be easy to visit again. That almost goes without saying. Expect crowds unless you are there early in the morning. Also, take a moment to contemplate not just the man Lincoln but ponder also the events atop those stairs. Ponder Marian Anderson singing on those steps in 1939 or MLK giving his 1963 “I Have a Dream” there (which really goes well with the nearby MLK Memorial).

Lincoln memorial is amazing

By Laneyandlulu |

Great big memorial! Beautiful lake too! Has speech behind Lincoln! Should plan 5 minutes to look at memorial and gift shop!

Lincoln

By Jessica K |

By far one of the grandest monuments in DC. Situated on one end of the mall, it can be easily accessed day or night. There is a small “museum” inside, restrooms and drinking fountain. Always crowded with people, yet big enough to get a good picture. It needed a good cleaning when we were there, and it appeared that some outside work was being done on one side of the stairs.

Fantastic monument

By Amy D |

It was great to walk along the reflecting pool towards the memorial and to go inside and stand in front of Lincoln.

Must-see in Washington D.C.

By Hendlschorsch |

"The Lincoln Memorial is a monument built between 1915 and 1922 in honor of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States. The 36 columns of the Greek-style monument symbolize the 36 states that formed the United States during Lincoln's term of office." and is currently still depicted on the back of the 5-USD bill (previously also on the 1-cent piece).

Touristy and thus formulated differently:

It is simply a must-see in Washington D.C. and one of the photo hot spots in the capital of the United States.

Peaceful and iconic spot

By mete a |

The place feels very powerful, standing in front of the statue gives a strong emotion. It is quiet, clean and well kept, you can sit on the steps and enjoy the view over the reflecting pool. A must see when visiting the city.

Huge size!

By Alice Seo |

The statue of President Lincoln is very large. Because it was Saturday, there were a lot of people. It's a place worth visiting. Looks good.

Eternal Tribute

By OscarAbella |

The Lincoln Memorial is a symbol of unity and equality. His majestic presence and iconic recorded speech inspire a sense of leadership and justice.

Must-See Memorial

By Anderson379 |

Pictures do not so the Memorial and reflection pool justice. This is a must-see in person! Very accessible with the scooters and bicycles available in the city.

The Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC is a
beautiful, must see memorial to our sixteenth
US President Abraham Lincoln.

great place even with the renovations going on.

By Eric L |

This was our first stop on the first day. The place was packed. They are doing renovations. I was happy to find they had a temporary ramp as I walk with a cane and walking up steps is a problem. The ramp helped a lot as I had to stop several times on the way up. There are repairs being made to columns, and they got mold that needs to be delt with. Old Abe sitting on his chair his eyes still follow you wherever you stand. I got a lot of good photos of me and the wife. We did have one protestor who had a Venezuela flag and waving it around and security had to deal with her. I don't know why folks come here and wave a flag from another country around and trash talk us. That was the one let down.

Landmarks in Washington

By Kimitaka Sho |

This is where most tourists to Washington visit. The view of the National Mall from here is often seen in TV news and movies. Admission is free, but there's nothing to see except the Lincoln statue, so the tour takes less than an hour.

A DC Must See

By SixtyOne |

The Lincoln Memorial is a must see for anyone visiting Washington DC. The stature is everything you imagine it to be, definitely recommended.

Fantastic

By I W |

A must do for a trip to Washington. It's at the end of the national mall, so can be quite a walk. We visited it twice, once as part of a bike tour and the other as part of a night time bus trip. Awesome statue. We went on a Thursday morning and a Thursday night and it was quite busy both times, but it was worth it seeing it during the day and night.

Stunning to see at night, but its busy

By Jaclyn H |

This was my first time visiting DC. I was visiting my son who was recovering from an injury during deployment. We took advantage of this opportunity and explored DC. The number one thing I had to see was the Lincoln Memorial. What an experience to see it up close. Stunning. Be prepared it's busy, very busy. Even at night around 8 pm. It is huge and there are steps. They were working on a ramp for wheelchair, but not completed as if March 2024. This is a must.

Inspiring!

By Kathy D |

Allow yourself to become part of this monument in spirit. Looking at the statue is a strong feeling of conscience... of doing the right thing for others. Reading the inscriptions around the monument reinforces that feeling.

Impressive memorial

By USASUN |

One of the many beautiful memorials in Washington DC. The view from there is wonderful over the National Mall to the Capitol. The size is very impressive. Seen so often in many films and then suddenly you are standing in front of it. The texts engraved on the wall are also worth reading.

At the moment the memorial is only partially open because it is being built or renovated, like many places in Washington DC. The rush of visitors to the open site is therefore all the greater.

Beautiful at Night

By Gmabert |

Very moving, and so beautiful at night! Went back the next day as well and spent more time reading his speeches.

Must see

By Amie |

I’ve seen this in books but this is a must see in person. Absolutely amazing. It is so beautiful at night all lit up! It took my breath away.

Worth seeing and worth a visit!

By Schwabe550 |

Worth seeing and worth a visit. There was no waiting time and the visit is free. The height of the memorial and the design are impressive. Also, you have a very nice view of the Capitol. It's worth a visit.

Awesome Experience

Spectacular view from the memorial!
An unforgettable experience!!
Highly recommended 👍
Superb tour of a historical venue in the heart of our Nation’s Capitol.

Magnificent memory of Lincoln

By CWB |

A magnificence statue and memorial in the memory of a revolutionary man. As you as you step into the memorial, you can just feel how special this place is - and the importance he played in the history of the USA. A must see in Washington.

Summer 23

By FireTim44 |

A must when you come to Washington. Wonderful by day. Spectacular when lit at night. Nice to sit around during the day as well

Wonderful!!!

By Roberto R |

We felt like in the movies, we remember President Lincoln's great legacy to democracy for both America and humanity, as forgiveness makes you greater than the statue itself.

Wow

By Saltrocksister |

Everything you see in the movies is true. Beautiful powerful monument. Loved it and it was even better at night. It’s iconic and a beautiful place to sit and reject.

A must see at night

By MeganMunro |

So impressive up close. You see this in so many movies and shows and you really don't get the true scale until you see it in person. It is really moving and beautiful.
They are currently doing some works to the building, so there is some construction around - but you can still access the stairs and statue.
See it at night as they illuminate it beautifully.

THE MEMORY OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN IS ENSHRINED FOREVER

By AAlex Bao |

Every good American would be proud to visit the Lincoln Memorial located at one of the horizontal ends of the National Mall in Washington, D.C. C. and is a memorial created to honor the memory of President Abraham Lincoln. The building is shaped like a Greek Doric temple, and has a large sculpture of a seated Abraham Lincoln and inscriptions from two of Lincoln's well-known speeches.

People have no respect

By 67Camar0 |

It wasn't the Lincoln memorial that was disappointing. It was the rude and disrespectful people who were there. A very touching and respectful moment was dashed with children running around yelling and very rude people pushing to get their pictures. The store was too small and yet there was no crowd control and people just pushed their way inside. There was a sign about crowd control but no one there to keep it contained. There was a promotion ceremony there on the steps and the rude people talking and no control of their children was terrible. People who come to these very solemn places need to teach their children and themselves to respect these places.

First visit.

By William B |

This was my first time actually going to the structure because I had only seen it in pictures. I actually had a chance to walk up the marble stairs and take some close ups of the statue sitting in the chair. It was very busy and the weather was quite chilly but from what I saw this place is quite larger than I expected. From the top of the steps you have a good view of the Reflecting Pool and the Washington Monument but would be much prettier on a sunny day.

Abe's Memorial

By Dan M |

Abe is setting in a chair looking out over Washington DC with a vision of what our great nation was to become, free from slavery.

It’s bigger than it looks

By Robben T |

First, I’m 66 and not the fittest gal. It’s only 58 steps, get to a handrail, take your time and climb. It is so worth it.

Fabulous

By Simone Lepora |

Fantastic view and history. My teenage son loved it and would go back again . Travel was great with the air conditioner and comfy bus as it was a hot day .

Mammoth Marvel Memorial made for Movies Moment

By Denise |

This memorial is Mammoth! Due to my disability I was unable to scale all the stairs to get to the top where Abe is immortalized. But even from the base I was Awe inspired by the Grandeur of this Mammoth Marvel. I could not wrap my mind around the reality of being there and able to also stand among Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and visualize the Washington Monument. This was a dream of what otherwise would have only been a “seen on TV” experience.

Lincoln Memorial

By Martha A |

It's part of the National Mall. Don't miss visiting. Take the Circulator bus that runs the entire route and you will pay a dollar for every trip you make.

Worth seeing and walking up the steps

By Sharon G |

Lots of steps going to the Memorial; however, it is well worth your time and effort. The view is amazing and the Memorial itself is quite powerful as a remembrance of a great man who did his best for his country. (IMO)
Well worth seeing as part of our history as a country.

Impressive but oh so crowded!!

By Valerie L |

Impressive monument but too crowded. Great point of view on the Washington Monument.
My son loved it.

It was great getting to see it, but traffic was unbearable

By Chris |

We really enjoyed seeing the Monument, but it took over 2 hours to park due to the fact they were doing construction all around the Monument & traffic was impossible

A historical monument well worth a visit

By Jonas B |

Mighty beautiful building. Lincoln sat safely watching over us. Beautiful view and not too many people. Well worth a visit

Cool place to see, be mindful of crowds

By Maria |

It was busy! Currently under construction, have lots of patience with crowds but cool place to visit. Lines can be long to get up the museum.

Inspiring!

By dbinhou7511 |

Read the words inside the memorial from Lincoln's speeches. From the steps of the Memorial you get a great view and can imagine the history that was made on these steps.

Another great monument ticked off my bucket list

By Eyekaytoo |

Being in Washington DC we just had to take a walk over to this iconic monument to contemplate the large statue of Abraham Lincoln in his seat. I've seen this in so many movies so it was a delight to see it "in the flesh", or should I say marble. On the day we visited there were many tourists, particularly young groups of school children and students. So it was a bit noisy, but still a pleasure to see.

By the way, having lived in Athens, Greece, the whole building does have very much a Parthenon feel to it. But not quite so old...

My son & I didn't linger her that long but we did stand on the steps looking down on to the reflecting pond and further towards the iconic Washington Monument. Again the view has been immortalized in so many Hollywood movies. Interestingly with that view standing in the middle of the steps and looking eastwards (I think), the Washington Monument totally obscures Capitol Hill in the mid distance. Intriguing.

Enjoyable

By T-bone |

Always a great place to stop, reflect and enjoy the view. Good accessibility for the handicapped. Bookstore open late.

Visit Lincoln Memorial

By Patrich Schönenberger |

Such a wonderful place and a still memorial. A sitting president in a marmoset chair, beautiful!!! A must to see it. Attention, right side is under construction till 2026

Impressive and Crowded

By Just Get in the Car |

Took the crew for a day trip in DC over Christmas break. Seeing the Lincoln Memorial was a must. It is historical, impressive, and very crowded. There was also a lot of work going on around it. Regardless, it was a highlight of the trip for the kids.

Definitely worth checking out while in DC. Just don't expect a quiet, sombre moment alone with Abe. You will have people all around you.

You don't want to miss this!

By Louise M |

One of the icons of Washington DC, it's a must see. The view from the top allows you to see across the mall to the Washington Memorial.

Busy

By BackPacker800547 |

It's very iconic and currently undergoing a lot of work ahead of the 250 year anniversary of independence. Even though crowded you can still get very close to the main statue.

To do anyway

By Lorenzo C |

Beautiful from the outside but disappointing once inside, although the Lincoln statue has its own why. It should still be seen to complete a visit to Washington

Lincoln Memorial

By AmersM22 |

This is a very nice memorial. It also has great views of the Washington Monument from it. Easy to walk to. Can get crowded, so hard to get a picture with out other people in in.

Absolutely massive in scale

By CapDeathCarpet |

An iconic monument featured in so many films we had to visit this tribute to Abraham Lincoln.
Easy to find as you'd expect this is absolutely massive in scale, films really don't give you a real indication of the size.
Well worth a visit for a selfie on the steps just to prove you were there.

The DC big sight that surprised me the most

By AlexSwallow |

We saw all the major sights in the centre of Washington DC, but I think this one surprised me the most. Firstly, the scale was so much bigger than I'd imagined. I also hadn't realized that you could go as close to the statue as you can, nor that two of Lincoln's most famous speeches are inscribed there.

Views from the top are very special. The whole place is a must-see in my opinion.

Lincoln memorial

By Jose R |

The Lincoln memorial is undergoing renovations and construction of the Lincoln memorial museum which are supposed to be completed in 2026. Some of the views will be obstructed.

loved it but...

By Parker |

I was so excited to go but when I got there I noticed it was under construction but me and my family still like it

Well worth visiting

By LisaMNUSA |

The memorial is nice, you'll need to take some steps to get to it. The statue is very big, there is information about him and the history on the wall.
You can see the Washington monument from here through refection pool. I visited here on a Tuesday afternoon, it wasn't crowed.

Essential history

By Chelle P |

Can't miss on any trip to DC. Very crowded during the day but was perfect at night without the tour groups. Great photo opps!

An absolute must see in Washington

By A Midlife Adventure |

Wow! This is some memorial. The Lincoln Statue alone is 19 feet wide and 19 feet tall and stands on a 11 foot platform.
The views across the reflecting pool, which stretches 2000 ft towards the Washington Monument in the far distance, are amazing.
Whilst there is no emotional attachment for me, as a Brit, it is a sight to behold

Iconic place

By The Baobab Republic |

One of the iconic buildings of America, in our opinion. If visiting D.C, then one of the must-visit places, is this place. A beautiful space, solemn and very symbolic. We slowly visit and enjoy the scenery here.

Great Place

By Bill2025 |

The Lincoln Memorial is a must see if you’re in DC. There are lots of stairs before you reach the top, but it’s worth the walk up. The statue of President Lincoln is amazing. I highly recommend this place.

finally visit here

By Alberto Peroza |

To visit here because it is one of several emblematic monuments in history, it also appears in several films and it is pleasant to be here, I liked it

An awe-inspiring building to honor a great man

By squidman212travel |

A beautiful memorial to honor our nation's greatest president. Beautifully done and awesome to see. They are undergoing a huge remodel right now but it is still a sight to behold.

A temple!

By Helen K L Espinosa |

A monument that is a true temple in honor of Abraham Lincoln, the former president of the United States.
The place is amazing and is part of the monument complex in Washington that is worth seeing every corner!

It's a classic. 'Nuff said.

By Christian B |

The first time I came to Washington DC, I missed this entirely. Not that I didn't know what it was (I've seen the Tim Burton Planet of the Apes, after all), but that I just never got the chance to see it. I've now been to DC four times, and I made sure to see it one the latter two. And as a history enthusiast, let me tell you: this is worth seeing in D.C. Is it a tourist trap? Oh, absolutely. It's crowded with schools and other visitors day and night, and it's genuinely time-consuming to get there and back via walking (unless you're looking for a lengthy walk, which you might be). But it's worth it for sure. Say what you want about glorifying the founding fathers of any country, but you FEEL the glory standing in front of this statue. You have to wonder if Honest Abe would like this monument, and I imagine he wouldn't really be a big fan of it personally. But his accomplishments certainly warrant his commemoration, and this is a more-than-worthy way to do so. It's a must-see attraction if you're in the city, that's for sure.

Now I just need to get to the MLK monument, dammit...

Lincoln Memorial

By Daniel Forssell |

One of the great attractions of Washington D.C. - a fantastic building and a fantastic memorial for one of the great presidents of all time. A classic place that you can recognize from so many movies, news broadcasts, etc.

Visit

By Jacob H |

A must see when in Washington D.C. with much history including a spot marking where MLK provided "I have a Dream speech"

Lincoln Monument

By WilliamBarros |

Very imposing monument with the statue of President Lincoln, at the bottom of the water mirror, with a beautiful view, an excellent place for beautiful photos

Emotional

By Valerie J |

The artwork is amazing. I’ll agree with others seeing this was very emotional. We saw it at night and during the day and it’s nice either way. They were doing work around it when we were there as well but we we still able to go all the way up.

Lincoln Memorial Tour

By nanath67 |

It is very impressive to climb the steps and then discover the huge statue of Abraham Lincoln!!! 😍
Must-see visit to Washington DC, day or night!

Sitting proudly over Washington but building works on going

By GMH153 |

The Lincoln memorial is always very impressive of Abraham Lincoln sitting and pondering over the reflecting pool

They are currently building an exhibit underneath the memorial so there is a temporary ramp or a climb up the stairs

Crowded was still impressive

By Mommaof5kiddos |

Super crowded and hard to manipulate the stairs as part was blocked off and many were sitting on steps. But still amazing to see

Majestic

By Lets cruise |

It is as majestic as you expect ( some attractions look big on a picture and when you get there its just underwhelming). Part of the memorial (as most of the DC) is under construction as they are building a museum there. Go in the night, the lights are beautiful

Big man, big chair

By Louie G |

An interesting brief visit.

Did you know there was a typo carved into the words? It was fixed, but you can still see the goof.

You'll spend about 10 minutes here.

Iconic

By md1mm |

This is one of the places I always visit when in Washington DC. I visited on a hot humid day and it was great to be under the shade at the memorial. There are a lot of steps to get up to it. Most of the visitors were US schoolchildren when I was there.

In the heart of the country

By IBalou |

It takes a good day to be able to do the long walk that starts from the Lincoln statue and ends at the White House.
The experience is excellent, the statue imposing and the surrounding area open and well maintained. Access is free.
Next door there is a cafe and a gift shop with souvenirs that you will not find in the rest of the country. Recommended.

Lincoln Memorial: Timeless Reflections

The Lincoln Memorial is a powerful symbol of American history in the heart of Washington, D.C. Best Tribute to A Great American Leader

By krishna292 |

Lincoln Memorial is located in the west of National Mall in Washington DC. The statue is in the memory of America's 16th President and one of the greatest leaders of the country who began the struggle for racial equality and justice for the black people of America. The 99 feet high marble statue of Lincoln sitting on a chair and high pedestal is housed inside a large hall that is surrounded by 36 Doric style columns representing the number of states at the time of his death. He survived the Civil War between the northern and southern parts of the America and sacrificed his life for the enslaved and downtrodden people of America, justifying the epitaph inscribed on the wall behind his statue that reads- 'In this temple in the hearts of the people for whom he saved the Union the memory of Abraham Lincoln is enshrined forever.' There are large murals with inscriptions on the other two side walls representing Gettysburg speech and Inaugural Address. In one of the steps outside the statue is inscribed, " I have A Dream" the famous words of Martin Luther King Jr.

Impressive both inside and out

By Karrempje |

We went here in the evening. Very impressive and I never knew that the statue is 5m80. And then it stands on a pedestal. You have to climb to enter. The outside is covered in scaffolding, but luckily you don't notice it inside.

AMAZING

By AZ Holidays |

We were fortunate to go on a rainy, cloudy day, and there were not many other groups there. We took our time, and read the speeches on both sides of the memorial. POWERFUL!

Memorable place

By Krevett_77 |

This is a must-see spot in Washington.
It's impressive and there's an atmosphere on site.

Inspiring and humbling

By adventix |

The Lincoln memorial is really a must see. The place is huge and inspiring. make sure you walk the grounds and climb the stairs all the way to the top. No tickets are required.

A must see, but undergoing construction at present

By The Real DJ |

A must see if you are in Washington. The building is huge, but resembled a building site. It has a temporary ramp which obscures the view from the front and they seem to be building below / to the side. The statue is very large, but given the scale of the building, I was expecting even bigger. The location offers great views down the national mall towards the Capitol Building.

IL and LA

By Lorenzo P68 |

It is THE monument and statue par excellence of Washington. It goes without saying that the charm and charisma of this work has few equals. Same thing for the memorable view that can be enjoyed from the top of the staircase.

Awesome place

By weary traveller |

Awesome place to go see the Lincoln memorial. Until you see the statue you don’t realise how big it is . Also from where Lincoln is facing , it’s almost like he’s watching the Washington monument and capitol building as they appear to be in a straight line.
Don’t miss it you are there

Impressive

By Ulyana |

Big memorial with Lincoln’s statue inside. Very nice and inspiring views from the memorial.
You can see only stairs to enter inside, but there is also lift for people for whom it’s difficult to climb a stairs.

Go in the evening - awesome experience

By Traveller |

I visited the Lincoln Memorial in July 2025. I have been to the Lincoln Memorial many times but never in the evening. I took Uber to time my arrival ten minutes before sunset. I walked along the Reflecting Pool to the World War 2 Memorial (not a good photo op because the fountains were off). Then I walked back to the Lincoln Memorial which was already illuminated and took a photo. I then went to the Korean War Memorial, the MLK Memorial and viewed the Jefferson Memorial and Tidal Basin from there. All illuminated and many photo ops. Then I walked back to the Lincoln Memorial. By then it was darker and the illumination was even more dramatic. I walked up the steps to view Lincoln and it was very well lit. I got an awesome photo of the Washington Monument with the Reflecting Pool. By then it was after 10 pm and I got an Uber back to my hotel. Visiting the Lincoln Memorial and the other memorials and monuments during the evening is an awesome experience.

Huge

Now that's a ststue!

By montanapescado |

A towering figure of American history deserves a towering statue, and the Lincoln Memorial fits the bill. But the memorial is more than just the statue. The building is itself impressive and the associated displays add depth to the tale behind the man. This is a definite DC must visit.

A Must Particularly at Night

By Often_on_road |

This memorial is so moving that it should be on everyone's list, especially at night. The memorial also has bathrooms and an elevator.

Quick stop with two kids in tow.

By victoriamccracken |

It was quite the walk after the Smithsonian with the kids but we made it! Our youngest (5) actually loved the ceiling of all things and our 11 year old had a lot of questions about Lincoln afterwards. Beautiful memorial and worth the gorgeous walk!

Lincoln Memorial - a closer look

By goingoutside2015 |

We have visited this memorial before. This time we took our time to look, listen and feel the power of Lincoln's leadership by reading the full texts of his Gettysburg Address and the Second Inaugural Address.

Must See

By SHoop |

I'm not sure what I was expecting tbh, I've only ever seen it in films. But wow, it was stunning. there were ramps going up to the memorial if you couldn't manage the steps up, with seats going up in case you needed a sit down on your way. A beautiful memorial and a must-see.
Although a lot of people there, we didn't find it too crowded.

good view with the pool in front of it

there is a long way to walk there, there is a long reflection pool in front of it, so it's a good taking picture spot, the memorial itself is also grand and beautiful, I wish we have time to visit it inside, but we didn't, hopefully next time when we came, will have chance to enter it to take a look

Washington knows how to do memorials and this is no exception.

I went at night when it's all ablaze with lights.

As a foreign guy Mr Lincoln means nothing to me but we left our language (which you've manage to butcher) so you have a short history and a meaningful future thanks to Mr Lincoln.

Crowded but must-see

By TheOrganizedTravelCoach |

The Lincoln Memorial is a monument in Washington DC dedicated to Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States. It is located on the National Mall and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the city.

When there are a lot of people at the Lincoln Memorial, it can be a bit crowded and hectic. Visitors may have to navigate through crowds and lines to get inside the monument, especially during peak tourist season.

Despite the crowds, the Lincoln Memorial is still a must-see destination. The monument is an impressive structure with 36 white marble columns and a large statue of Abraham Lincoln inside. The walls are inscribed with some of Lincoln's most famous speeches, including the Gettysburg Address and his Second Inaugural Address.

Visitors may need to be patient and wait their turn to get a good view of the monument or to take a photo. However, the crowds also add to the energy and excitement of the experience.

One tip for dealing with the crowds is to visit the monument early in the morning or later in the evening, when there are fewer people around. This can also provide a more peaceful and serene experience, and allow visitors to take in the beauty and grandeur of the monument without the distractions of large crowds.

Overall, the Lincoln Memorial is a must-see destination for anyone visiting Washington DC, and despite the crowds, it's worth the effort to visit and pay tribute to one of the most important figures in American history.

Majesty

By Lorena D |

Both the building and the seated statue of Lincoln are impressive, as is the reproduction of the Gettisburg Address. Then the beautiful view of the National Mall

Solemn place

By Monia B |

Lincoln Memorial is located in the Mall area. As with many monuments in the city, this one is designed in a classical style and closely resembles a Greek or Roman temple. The 19-foot-tall statue of Lincoln looks out from a solemn chamber in a building surrounded by 36 columns, each representing a state in the union at the time of Lincoln's death. Admission is free and the Memorial is always open, except for Christmas. In addition to being a symbol of the city, it hosts many events and is famous for being the venue from where Martin Luther King Jr delivered the “I have a dream” speech in 1963. In this period the memorial is subject to important work for the construction of a museum dedicated to Lincoln. Despite the work the charm of the monument does not fail, it should be a bit more respectful and less noisy, remembering that it is still a memorial. If there was more silence the place, with its beautiful view of the Mall, would be phenomenal.

Grand Memorial.

The only downside when we visited was the building works, but aware that maintenance is needed to keep it looking so fabulous.

For what it represents is worth the rating, we sheltered for an hour because of a severe and sudden storm... and as a shelter for simple tourists, the look it casts over its sitting has a sense of protection for what the US believes as democracy in the centuries of its life...

Heaving but nice monument

By chocolatekimmy |

Great views and surrounding area with the reflecting pool.
There was some work going on so some of the steps were cordoned off but it looked tatty - they could have been more sympathetic in how they are keeping it whilst the work is being done.

It was heaving too, on the steps and inside.

The View

By AdventureMN95 |

The Lincoln Memorial is really a great way to start you walk though DC, the building it’s self is very well kept but you can’t beat the view seeing Capital Hill, and the Washington monument all from Lincoln Memorial. It also a great spot for photos.

Amazing Memorial to visit!

By Whitney D |

My husband and I are big Lincoln fans so I knew he needed to see this memorial. I myself have seen this when I was much younger so now that I'm a bit older it was great to experience it again! Unfortunetly, the memorial was under construction so that was a bit disappointed but the statue and main area where Lincole sits was not. It wasn't too busy and it was fun to see people dancing on the stairs leading up to the memorial. Its such a great likeness of him with all of this famous quotes around him. They do have a little gift shop there but there is also another one with more things just a bit aways away which is where we found what we were looking for. This is a must see in DC!

Amazing place

By Gleice Rieth |

The most beautiful place in Washington DC … no one can visit Washington DC without this destination . It’s really beautiful and with a lot of knowledge evolved

Huge! Great view

By Jessica S |

Well that was something to see. The statue of Lincoln is way bigger than I expected and I also farther back into the monument than I thought. A very iconic space worth a visit.

Memorable experience.

By Rain |

Seeing it dark and then stepping inside and having the statue light up. It looks dark as you approach the building.

A must see for American history and art lovers.

By Wendy L |

Beautiful monument at night. Very impressive to see in person. To look from there at the National Mall from the spot where Martin Luther King spoke to the crowd was emotional.
There is some construction happening now to build a museum underneath and better access for wheelchairs. Worth the time and effort to see.

Historic but Overcrowded

By osand E |

The Lincoln Memorial is an iconic site with great historical significance. The statue is impressive, and the atmosphere is peaceful. However, it can get very crowded, making it hard to fully enjoy. Worth a visit, but not a must see

The Lincoln Memorial is a must!

By Carol I |

Visiting the Lincoln Memorial is simply a must. We visited at night and again during the day. Texts were inscribed on left and right walls. From there you look down the reflecting pool and it’s a special patriotic moment.

A great landmark to see!

By smum78 |

As an iconic landmark it is more striking in person than it appears in movies and on TV. A spectacular view from the top step also makes for an inspiring visit.

Impressive

By trip-radar |

It's worth visiting this significant monument while walking at the heart of Washington DC and living a major part of American history.

Respect!

By TravelerTrecker |

The National Mall highlights how the US participation in War has made possible for the Human civilization to continue; it also highlights some of the founders of the nation and perhaps, the most important presidents (Lincoln, Washington, Jefferson, FD Roosevelt), and the leader of the civil rights movement Dr. Martin Luther King. The Mall tells the history of the US and how impressive the country is. To visit the Memorial Mall you need at least a whole afternoon. If you are visiting Washington D.C. and your hotel is close to the mall, the mall is quite easy to reach by walking and to reach all sites is easy even if you are handicapped. The Lincoln Memorial is likely the largest and most iconic memorial at the Memorial Mall. This memorial highlights the life of Abraham Lincoln, it shows his ideas, statements, speeches and his relevant decisions on emancipation and liberty. Entrance is free. It also offers wonderful views of the National Mall, the pool, and Arlington.

Must see

By Destination Unknown 3 |

Pictures do not compare to this magnificent memorial. Crowded, however people will let you get your pictures. Don’t miss this.

A must-see in DC!

By lazydayz_2002 |

Certainly a must do while in DC. Definitely add it towards the top of your list as it’s something you won’t want to miss. So peaceful and beautiful. I could have sat on the steps for hours soaking it in (if it weren’t such a chilly day). Can’t wait to bring my kids here to visit.

Night experience

By Excursion681844 |

Security was present, I enjoyed going at night but was scary not knowing how to find the metro station back or finding taxis around to take us to a subway station.

Oh my goodness ... amazing

By Shelly B |

I have seen this a million times on TV but that sure does not do it justice. It is amazing to be right in front of this statue. Looking up at him, looking out at the surroundings on all sides ... words fail me.

Always awe inspiring

By luv2travelHonolulu |

Always a beautiful and awe inspiring sight to see. There was a peace festival going on in the mall during our trip so it was very busy but still a sight to see

Iconic

By Rebecca Y |

We saw the memorial at night when it was all lit up. It gets very busy, so expect a lot of people.
This is an iconic place. You can't go wrong with seeing this one

Mr. Lincoln

Lincoln is a must see when in Washington DC. Walk up the steps and take in the enormous statue. Take the time to read the inscriptions.

Larger than life but under reconstruction

By Soo M |

One of the few places I have seen litter ! Toilets ( sorry restrooms) were horrible . The monument is currently being renovated but you can still go in and see the statue .

One of my favorite monuments!

By TravelingM0m2007 |

This is a must-see! The size of the monument, combined with the inscribed speeches on the walls the view from the top of the stairs, is really worth it!

It is a wonderful sculpture my favorite of the whole tour. I recommend going with plenty of sunscreen, water and rubber shoes.

Magnificent monument to an incredible man

By David N |

The monument is magnificent and i would give it five stars except it is currently going through renovations until 2026. Irrespective of this, it is still an impressive structure capturing an amazing man

Impressive.

By Matt T |

Great to see this world famous landmark. Easy to get to on foot and well worth the trip. No waiting on line, just roll up and have a look. Recommend.

Lincoln memorial

By L.E. |

This is a beautiful and large monument to honor Abraham Lincoln. I highly recommend visiting if you are in DC. It was a bit crowded (even at night) and there were some teens acting like fools on the monument, which isn't the fault of the monument itself. That's my only complaint, but unruly kids are all around and there's not much we can do about it.
It's well lit at night.

A Great Memorial to a Great Man

By andyh67186334 |

I arrived at the Memorial early on a Tuesday morning before the tourist and school groups arrived, and for at least 15 minutes had the Memorial to myself.
The Memorial is an impressive building based on Neo classical architecture and the sculpture of Lincoln is fantastic, The murals and inscription on the walls inside are also very impressive. There is some construction taking place outside of the memorial so this sails the exterior views of the front of the structure.
There are also great views of the National Mall, Monument and Capitol Building from the Memorial. It can become very busy at peak times so visit early as I did.

Iconic Memorial

By Jack |

The Lincoln Memorial is an iconic memorial on the National Mall dedicated to the 16th President of the United States. When I went, the memorial was unfortunately under construction which blocked off most of the stairs. Other than that, it was very surreal to visit and have great views of the Washington Monument and the rest of the National Mall.

Beautiful October weather to stroll through the National Mall and see the Lincoln Memorial for the first time.

By Hope B |

The Lincoln Memorial does not disappoint. The lighting is perfect for pictures during sunset on the backside of the memorial and very few people.

Very Educational

By KHATRI_TANZANIA |

Visited Abraham Lincoln memorial, it is a museum, and very educational for those who are interested in understanding the history of the United States. There is a big statue of Abraham Lincoln and the important messages written on the wall.

Charming Historic City

By heathra |

Lincoln is a charming, historic and delightful city to visit. Old cobbled streets, old buildings all threaded around the Cathedral and Castle. Lots of lovely individual shops, restaurants and cafes. Lots to see and do. We took the Cathedral roof tour which was amazing.

Um passeio incrível

Start the tour at 14th Street and go ahead towards the Washington Monument, keep going until you reach the World War II Memorial. This place is incredible and we have a view of an Atlantic arc on one side and the Pacific arc on the opposite side. Then walk along the Reflecting Pool until you reach the Lincoln Memorial. It is an unmissable and incredible tour.

Visiting the Lincoln Memorial was a truly humbling experience. Standing before the towering statue of Lincoln, I felt a deep sense of history and reverence. The view of the Reflecting Pool and Washington Monument at sunset was breathtaking—absolutely iconic.

Not the land of Lincoln, BUT worth a looksy

By Ofamily2014 |

It is worth seeing at least once. They are doing some renovations right now, but you still have access to see Lincoln and take pictures. I appreciate the view from where Lincoln is facing the National Mall all the way across where you can see The Washington Monument.

Majestic and beautiful

By Mariia K |

The scale is astonishing.
Beautiful place with history.
One of the popular places, so, of course, everywhere are crowds of tourists even weekdays. But that doesn't stop me from admiring the monument.

Fantastic

By askingroberta |

A must see on any tour of Washington, DC. It is a memorial that you will not forget seeing and will be glad you did.

Special!

By Mark Verhoeckx |

Bigger than I thought and a must go when you're in Washington. If you turn around you have a beautiful view over the Mall and the National Monument.

Beautiful view

By livingtinybig |

Truly one of the beautiful and graceful views of The Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial. Well maintained. Plenty of history to take in. Day time definitely had plenty of people and night time gave a more personal and solitude vibe. We had a wonderful time.

A must-see for anyone who appreciates American history and values

By Diva Vo |

The memorial features a 19-foot marble statue of Lincoln sitting on a throne, surrounded by 36 columns representing the states he united. The memorial also contains inscriptions of his famous speeches, such as the Gettysburg Address and the Second Inaugural Address

Must see!

By Manuel P |

A beautiful iconic Washington landmark, must see (and it's free). Easy access and the view is beautiful.

You have to see it!

By ctimms125 |

Everything about this place is awe-inspiring. I could go here every day and not get tired of it. It is an amazing place and I was overwhelmed by it. You should go more than one time at different times of day. It is different each time.

Most amazing of all the monuments

By David H |

I visited twice - once on a night tour and again during the day. The monument close up is vast - just walking up the many steps is an experience. Inside, Lincoln’s commanding figure gazes down the Mall through the many columns. It is the most impressive and imposing of all the monuments on the Mall, and should b3non everybody’s list to visit.

A Must See

By James R |

If all you do is drive by this memorial, you've missed the majesty of it all. I will recommend that you visit early morning before the crowds

To Abraham Lincoln, saviour of the country!

By maskoutain2575 |

We went to visit two of our grandsons in Ocean City, Maryland, in the summer of 2024 where they were working as lifeguards.
We took the opportunity to see Washington again with a tour of the city on Big Bus multi-stop buses.

On the route we could see this symbolic pavilion of architect Henry Bacon. This Greek temple with its whiteness and columns houses the remarkable statue of President Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865), by Daniel Chester French. This memorial was inaugurated on May 30, 1922.

The famous president is sitting there, with this serious attitude and his piercing look made of his sunken eyes. This man of good stature seems to be finally enjoying a moment of peace and seeing with hope the rest of things for his country.

Beautiful

By Jay |

The Lincoln Memorial is way bigger in real life than I thought it would be. The whole memorial is very, very cool. It's free of course and you can get some great photos with the statue and the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. This is also a 15 minute walk away from the White House and Washington Memorial, which you should also check out. Overall, this is probably one of the most iconic spots in DC and therefore a must-see attraction.

Got to see the great man!

By sallyann4961 |

The Memorial was/is undergoing some work when we visited. This greatly restricted access and the steps were dangerously crowded. The shop must be the smallest gift shop in the US!! Didn't detract from the experience though.

Four score and seven years ago… I only read it in a book and then I saw in real life…

By GSM_uk |

Massive statue of one of America’s greatest public figure. Good for those who can walk by steps but I didn’t see if there’s a ramp or elevator for elderlies and impaired. When we visited the front was under construction so you can’t really tKe a nice memorable pic of the whole building having said that still a good to see this tourist spot..

Lincoln Memorial at Washington D.C. - it's a must see

By LANCE O |

Lincoln Memorial...located at the west of the Mall and adjacent to the west end of the Reflecting Pond...historical, moving, emotional...go and visit, just do it, it's as simple as that
It will take about 30 minutes to stroll the memorial interior and exterior...and could take up to an hour depending upon crowds, and your interest

Great man

By Eva T |

Impressive Lincoln Memorial was built for 8 years and opened to public in 1922. There are 36 columns, each one representing one state in the U.S. at the date of president Lincoln’s death.
On the side is a ramp which really helps to walk up instead of climbing the stairs and a benches which I welcomed for much needed break because of pain in the knees.
170-ton Lincoln statue by American sculptor Daniel Chester French, is composed of 28 blocks of white marble and measures over 9 meters from the floor.
On the walls are Lincoln’s speeches. From the stairs is great view to the Mall.

A must

By Stufest |

This is given appropriate magnitude for such a legend. It's grand and not commercial. Relatively easily found and overlooking the mall.

Lincoln

By Tiffanyjim |

The day we visited it was pretty busy unlike the year before. Lincoln Memorial is now under construction and parts are fenced off. Still we’re able to get up to the monument, but very crowded and pictures were not as good.

NOT TO MISS

By Grégory CAILLET |

Mandatory passage if you visit Washington.
This memorial, in homage to the 16th President of the United States, assassinated at the age of 56 at the start of his 2nd term, is a reminder of history and in particular of the Civil War (1861-1865) where President LICOLN defended his convictions for the abolition of slavery.
This place is open (free).
As a reminder, it is on these steps that Martin Luther King gave his famous speech "I have a dream", on August 28, 1963.

Beautiful at night

Came at night and the lights are really beautiful along with views of the Washington Monument and other things.

So much bigger than we expected. So many wonderful quotes and wonderful view of the National Mall. Easy to find.

The Lincoln Memorial: A Must See Attraction

By Great_Beer_Now |

One of the most visited and most photographed attractions in Washington DC is the Lincoln Memorial. The large stone structure and the statue of Lincoln, seated in a chair, are images that most everyone will recognize.

Approaching the Lincoln Memorial, you will need to be prepared to walk some steps. It seems like a lot from a distance, but once you get closer and start walking up the steps, it’s not bad at all. If you cannot walk the steps, due to being in a wheelchair or any other reason, this is not a problem because there is also a ramp.

Once inside, you will be presented with the large statue of Lincoln, which takes center stage. Surrounding the statue are important quotes, including Lincoln’s famous Gettysburg address. Some will spend time reading this and other quotes, but the majority of people who visit will simply pay their respects to one of our greatest presidents, snap a few pictures, and continue on to other attractions.

The Lincoln Memorial is an iconic attraction, to be certain, and it is offered free of charge. The large pillars on both the outside and inside of the building make you feel like you are entering a shrine, a holy place. Everyone is familiar with the Lincoln Memorial and most already know what it looks like from all the shared photos, but it is still a must- visit place for your next visit to Washington DC.

A D.C. must-visit. Truly something to behold, to honor one of history's greatest figures.

By Michael L |

Indispensable for a complete visit to D.C., especially a visit that would include a tour of memorials. Could this be D.C.'s greatest memorial? That would be saying a lot, but it's within the realm of plausibility.

Incredible!

By ArwenElf |

Incredible to see this monument in person after learning about it and hearing about it so much in history. Incredible and awe inspiring. Very peaceful and respectful within the marble columns.

Lincoln Memorial

By zachattack01 |

Definitely worth the visit if you are in DC area. You can feel all the history and important events/speeches that have taken place here just by walking up the steep steps to go up to Abe directly

Lincoln

By Roses |

There are always TONS of people around if you’re hoping to get a lone shot here.. pretty difficult to do. But it’s an impressive view here and a fun walk up/down the stairs for sure.

September 2024 visit

By Tigeriffic69 |

This is a lovely statue, with steps, and temporary ramp access.
There is no where to sit and enjoy the statue.
Take your camera.

A Humbling Experience

By Scott Redhead |

How could anyone possibly have anything bad to say about this monument to a great American? From the immaculately manicured grounds to the iconic pillars, the famous speeches etched in the solid marble on either side of the building, and of course, the colossal statue of Abraham Lincoln himself, it was positively awe-inspiring. Tip: go at night. I have visited this sight multiple times, and being there at night was positively the most energetic and humbling.

Beautiful tourism

By Angello P |

Beautiful place, full of people but it's worth it and the traffic is very fluid. Lot of history there, safe and well prepared.

Imposing

By michTI |

This memorial is also impressive.
This place is also worth visiting if you are in this city. It's a very important piece of history.

Disrespectful people

By Deena |

If you go to monuments of great people in other countries, people are so respectful and decorum in place. In here, the number of people who are blatantly disrespectful to the great man must be stopped.

Amazing

By Shade |

Amazing, you can clearly see the Washington Monument from the top. Would most likely have been even better had the cherry blossom been in bloom, but that was our own fault. Beautiful.

This was amazing.

By vmackmin |

Wow this was amazing. He is larger then life. Some of the building was down for remodeling. This is a must do. We did it early was not busy.

A sight to see

By Angie |

Ive only been able to see this monument through pictures. While in Washington, we got a chance to properly see it and WOW, what a sight! Definitely stop by if you’re in the area & learn a little about history.

Captivating and memorable

By Kmusikgal |

Met our expectations and then some. Lincoln is larger than life. The reminder of the history was overwhelming.

87 Steps from the reflecting pool - 4 Score + 7

By Companion18631799483 |

Truly solemn and amazing. Even with many other visitors, the tone is hushed and reverent. I am glad I went alone, I was able to take all the time I wanted to read appreciate.

Guess it’s a must see

By Brian R |

As a European I might be a bit allergic to bombastic architecture and person centered cults. While I deeply respect and appreciate this presidents efforts and achievements, I shy away from the efforts to turn this memorial into a place of worship.
Fitting, though, it is built on stilts to make it appear elevated in the landscape. And even more interesting, they are now working on turning the vault under the structure into an exhibition area, including the graffiti left from the workers who built it.

Pretty busy, and currently under renovations!

By Arthur M |

A beautiful building overlooking the Washington Monument and the Capitol Hill at the other end, and there was no more appropriate president to reside in that space other than the man who abolished slavery, Thomas Jefferson!

During my visit, the left side of the memorial was under renovation, and so I was unable to take a nice picture of the memorial's exterior. The memorial itself was pretty iconic, seen in many tourist photos and it's pretty much self-explanatory. I like that he is looking straight to the monument and the capitol.

A Tourist Must

By MrsWYN-R |

Washington DC is full of beautiful monuments yet this particular one of President Lincoln is a must see for every tourist visiting the city both day and night. Flood lit at night.

Time your visit well as this place gets very busy. A photograph is a must, but get ready to queue as everyone else wants a photo too. Good views across the city from the memorial and the top of the steps. Note there are alot of steps to the memorial yet there is building work in progress with a ramp to allow wheelchairs etc. Does not particularly look nice yet it is a necessity in society of today, so well done.

Impressive

By Manon B |

It's worth seeing
Impressive and grandiose,
We went there via the metro exit Foggy bottom and then rented bikes to go to the Congress laboratory

Another memorial that must be visited

By Maksym L |

The Lincoln Memorial, like all major Washington iconic sites, is on the National Mall, across from the Capitol. The first thing you see when you get inside is an impressive statue of President Lincoln sitting in a chair. The lyrics on either side are also worth your attention, but the statue is absolutely mesmerizing and always attracts attention. The steps of the memorial offer beautiful views of the National Mall and the Washington Monument. Be sure to visit.

Lincoln Monument and Respect

By Reg R |

The interior of the Lincoln statue and the various historical information was rewarding to those interested in the basis of the government system.
It was disappointing to see how some visiting families allowed their children to behave in this most important USA monument and what it stands for.
Climbing in designated prohibited areas and using sloped marble stone for a slide displayed to all a lack of respect. As an overseas visitor I found even more disappointing that these were citizens.
Unfortunately, the columns at the entrance were covered in a wooden covering due to cyclical repairs.
This was also the case with sections of Capital Hill and other historical important buildings.
Disappointing for people who are photographers.

Excelent!

By Rodolfo B |

Very impressive, I have been there in 2014, then, after 10 years, I have returned to visit Lincoln Memorial. It is an amazing place, there is no doubt why there are lots of people visiting it. I'm sharing some pictures to try to express the feeling of being there.

Walk to the top

By Acineto |

The Lincoln Memorial is located at one end of the National Mall, with the US Capitol on the other. The memorial itself can be seen from a distance.
There is a fairly large park area around the memorial as well as a reflection pool just in front of it, which leads to the WWII memorial.
Unsurprisingly, it was busy. You can walk up the stairs or the ramp to get to the top. They were in the process of rebuilding the museum in the undercroft of the monument. Due to this, the stairs had coverings for the construction.
After heading up the stairs, you see the fairly large seated Lincoln inside the building. There wasn't much else in the building other than the statue. The walls on both sides did have inscriptions. The view after heading out is quite nice, with the Washington Monument in the distance and the poll just in front.
It is worth a stop since it is something that is seen quite a lot on TV and does look nicer in real life.

See It In Person

By anderson213 |

It's a special moment to think that you are standing on the same steps as Miriam Anderson and Martin Luther King. Jr. Admire the statue and the view.

Imposing

By Walther von der Vogelweide |

Imposing monument dedicated to Abraham Lincoln, one of the most visited in the city. It recalls a Greek temple with 36 columns as many as there were American states at the time of construction. Currently the subject of important work for the opening of a museum dedicated to him.

In Awe

By Steph S |

Of course no visit to DC would be complete without a visit to see Lincoln, I went in the evening to see everything lit up and found less of a crowd but I was upset to see the iconic steps in front of Lincoln were having work done on them. So sadly I could not stand where Martin Luther king Jr stood when he delivered his iconic speech. However, it is still incredibly impressive to see and I have to say Americans know how to do a memorial as there are many other memorials in the vicinity that are also worth admiring. Definitely not to be missed if you’re in DC, I’d love to be able to live local and walk around the mall and the memorials whenever I pleased!

Visit Washington, DC - it’s amazing

By Patrick L |

Visiting Washington, DC, with my wife and our two young kids (ages 6 and 7) was an incredible experience! The historical monuments like the Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, and Washington Monument were breathtaking. It’s something else to see these landmarks in person, especially with little ones—they were awestruck. The National Museum of Natural History was a huge hit with the kids; the exhibits are engaging and really brought the wonder of history and nature to life for them.

The Air and Space Museum was partially under construction, so it didn’t have quite the “wow” factor we were hoping for. However, spending a few hours in Alexandria turned out to be a pleasant surprise; the quaint streets and charm gave us a bit of variety and made the trip even more memorable.

Two downsides were parking and the cost of eating out. Parking can be a hassle in DC, so I’d recommend planning for that ahead. Dining out is on the pricier side, so families might want to budget accordingly or consider some packed meals. My biggest piece of advice? Dress comfortably and wear good running shoes—there’s a lot of walking, and you’ll want to be ready for it.

Overall, this was one of our best family vacations yet! The blend of history, culture, and adventure made it unforgettable.

Big man on big chair

By Kaia W |

There is this speech that is emblazoned on the wall. If one does not understand the gravity of those powerful words and the man and his ideals, you should not come here.

Simply Beautiful

By June c |

Even though the pool was drained for maintenance during my visit I still enjoyed it a lot!

There was a little strip of water left in the middle that reflected Lincoln memorial as well as Washington monument so I didn't completely miss the experience. In fact it gave me a unique opportunity to walk on the concrete bottom surface of the pool and take some amazing pictures! It is a very photogenic place regardless of whether the pool is full or not.

I personally liked the atmosphere more in the evening/early in the morning when Lincoln memorial was still lit up and the sky was dark blue.

It’s a nice area for a walk, however due to the popularity of this place you won’t enjoy it just by yourself (people were around as early as 6:30 AM in March). It was extremely busy during the cherry blossom festival even though there are no cherry trees in the pool's proximity!

An obvious must-do

By Gill O |

One of the must-dos while in DC. A nice walk through the park to get there and back alongside the reflecting pool. Unfortunately they’re doing work so there is the most ugly ramp on one side at the moment, together with heavy scaffolding. Hopefully once this is done it will return to the imposing place it held before.
Also, to get there we walked past the various different memorials. Glad to see them and each only took minutes.

busy busy hot and busy

By Sumera Q |

lots of construction going on, but this place is a timeless and epic beauty. be careful climbing DOWN the stairs though-- especially in this heat. There are no handrails (would look tacky), so just make sure to go slow, avoid any liquid spills on the stairs, and stay hydrated!

Tribute

By Cacau E J |

Right in the center of Washington, this memorial near the Mall pays a well-deserved tribute to the president who managed to lead the victory in the Secession War unifying the USA. At the moment it is undergoing reform but the visitation continues.

A must see when in DC

By kantbyluv |

We took our family of 5 to Washington DC for Memorial Day weekend. The weather was perfect. We used the metro to get around and went to the sites with no issues. It was not crowded and kids had fun exploring the sites. Everyone was friendly and we were able to take some great pictures.

Timeless Majesty: The Lincoln Memorial Experience

By Robert D |

The Lincoln Memorial is just awe-inspiring. Huge statue of Lincoln, beautiful setting with the Reflecting Pool. It's like stepping into history and feeling all patriotic. Must-see in D.C. for sure!

Wonderful memorial!

By Kevin B |

The Lincoln Memorial has always been my favorite memorial in D.C. and it's likely because Lincoln is one of my favorite presidents. It's a stunning tribute to him and it's a very thought-provoking place to be, even when it's absolutely crowded. The architecture of the building itself is gorgeous and that is only enhanced by the statue of Lincoln himself. My favorite way of seeing this is it lit up at night and the memory of that is one that I will keep with me forever. It's a beautiful memorial and one you should make sure to see once in your life.

Trip with two teenage boys in DC

By Kathleen O |

My husband & I took our grandsons, 12 & 14 to DC so they could enjoy and experience our nation's capital. We had 3 full days and we really filled them. We stayed in the Capital Hill/Navy Yard area which does have many restaurants, is close to a Metro station as well as the Baeball stadium. For the Air & Space museum get tickets ahead - it gets full so ticket/passes are needed (free). we go to the Hirschorn Modern Art museum, The Potrait Museum, The Holocaust Museum, American History museum. Also had a tour of the White House as well as the Capital. The Capital tour was a big hit. Made it to most of the monuments during the day but also went back at night because they are stunning at night. Last museum was the International Spy Museum (not a mithsonian and $ticket needed. Went to the National Zoo too, although if short on time skip it. Eastern Market (Capital Hill) is a great stop too. We never made it to Georgetown - next time! (I've been there many times so I didn't mind) Our boys were very engaged at all the Museums - thrye loved Spy Museum.
