Really pretty street filled with flowers and shrubs. Even the housing architecture is pretty. Definitely a tourist trap with lots of people there when we were, and even more going down the street in cars or hired buggies - although it caused a queue so not sure how enjoyable that was.
We walked it, and despite the steep uphill climb it was a beautiful view at the top and worth it.
We were there on a Saturday afternoon and was really busy, so I would recommend probably first thing in the morning when it may be less busy.

Saw this for the first time 20 years ago. With the flowers and shrubs, it’s difficult to get a good picture of the street but a fun, touristy spot to drive when you’re in the area.

The street is beautiful and emblematic of San Francisco but it doesn't have much of a joke. If you go down there you don't have any interesting views, I think the best one is seen the street from below.

Driving down Lombard Street is a thrilling experience, though the tight curves can be a bit intimidating. Next time I'll try walking it so I can get a few snaps.

You can drive or walk down here. There are stairs either side of the crooked street meaning you can walk up or down. The gardens and plants are kept looking lovely. Loads of tourists.

We took the Powell-Hyde cable car line and got off near Lombard Street. From there, we walked down the famed part of Lombard with the short, sharp curves in the street. The walkway has hand rails and is right next to the homes lining the street. It was not so steep that the average person could not manage it. We did not walk back up, however, and took pictures looking up at the beautiful flowers that line the street, before moving on.

Decided to hike the hills to gain access to the famous Multi hairpin Lombard st. We walked the steps up one side and down the other…well worth the visit!

Such a cool, unique spot to visit. We walked here at around 8:30 am and it was already quite busy, for sure go early. If your hope is to drive down, double check the hours as during the day it is only for people who live here. (Nice to see for the residents!) The views from the top are beautiful. Like nothing I have seen before. Please be respectful as people live here.

It is indeed very steep street with the famous 8 turns.
We took the cable car to get there. We walked down on the right hand side and walked back up on the right hans side. It is fun but unfortunately in the winter there is no flowers. It does no looks as nice as you would expect from the pictures you can find of Lombard street.

After climbing to the top of a steep hill, we saw the crooked street, but the shrubbery was so tall, we could barely see the cars coming down.

It is a short and slow drive but unique. Surprisingly people live on this section and have driveway entrances that must be a little difficult to navigate.

We had a great time on a twisty street with beautiful hydrangeas and other variety of flowers. At the bottom of the hill it was very busy with traffic and people trying to get a picture looking up.

One of the free things to do and see while in town unless you pay for a ride down it. A neat site even though it is smaller in person than what you see on TV.

Disappointing. The vegetation is all dry and no color can color the road. The height is the little care of the vegetation make it little visible both from above and below. With the car you come down from above but honestly it is really nothing big. The streets of my country in Abruzzo are much better and more attractive.

My date and I enjoyed the ride in a Mustang convertible with the top down around midnight. One word to describe it: Fantastic!

Who can go to San fransisco without seeing this iconic street?
Beautiful views and houses, the trams were amazing and travel up and down regularly

You have to experience this street, ideally in some sort of vehicle. It's just something that you have to do!

Overrated. Plus there are big bushes now in the medians which obscures the view. We traveled down, and it was more a circus than a road. People were trampling homeowners plants and disrespecting the property of others. It was not fun.

Did not get here until my third trip to San Francisco. Had seen a nice view of it from the Coit Tower. Ended up walking by a couple of times and I think there are tourists there all day long. For those interested, at the bottom is the apartment used in the establishing shot for Monk's place in the TV show by the same name. I kind of like iconic things but would rather fit it in on a way somewhere than make it a destination.

Would skip it, completely overrated. It maybe needs to be seen from above to appreciate. Tourist trap. There are better, steep streets to see great views of the Bay and SF that feel more authentic. Incredibly crowded. If you feel you must go, go very early. Super boring for my kids. I felt bad I went, I felt that I was intruding on the residents.

My partner and I were in San Francisco June 2024 celebrating our 20 years together and of course we had to visit Lombard street. From the top you get great views, walking down through this windy road you can see the lovely houses and gorgeous foliage. At the bottom well you get to look up this quirky street. Great for photos but it can get busy.

No matter how many time I visit SF, I have to ride down Lombard Street! It’s a right of passage. And the view at the top of the street down to the water and Alcatraz is beautiful.

During our visit to San Francisco we also drove through the windiest street in the world and that is a great experience! It was busy with cars and pedestrians (it was weekend), so watch out, but the experience was definitely worth it!

One of the coolest streets ever! Walk it or drive it if you dare. An absolute must do when in San Francisco!

What a setting and no matter how many times we have walked it
we still get excited . What a piece of history in San Francisco and a walk along it is a must . Take the easy way and walk down as we found out walking up is not a good idea it is so steep .
Walking down then leads you onto Little Italy and Chinatown

One of my bucket thing's to do was to drive down Lombard street, and I've now done it. I don't know what it is, but this street has fascinated me for year's. I was not disappointed. The one mistake that I made was when I walked to it from our hotel, please use the cable car's to get there, unless you are incredibly fit.

Everyone wants to drive this road but honestly it was just fun seeing the cars drive and enjoying the beauty of the area. There are nice winding stairways with plenty of greenery.

Lombard Street is a sight to see - though I would only recommend really confident drivers to drive down on it. If you just wanted to stop and take a look, there is loads of street parking available- many spots which provide free parking for 1-2 hours.

Worth the walk up the hill to see the cars coming down it and the flowers surrounding the hill. Also worth looking behind you when you are standing at the bottom of the street to see the view!

I realize this is a pretty standard must-see for tourists, but at the end of the day, it's literally just a winding street. If you've seen pictures of it, then you've already experienced it plenty. We walked from the waterfront area to Lombard Street, which was painful on my calves. If you do see it (which you will, because again, it's a SF mainstay), I highly suggest that you drive to it and/or down it to save yourself the time and effort.

Lombard Street is not where you want to find out you need new brakes. We have driven down Lombard Street several times on our San Francisco Vacations. This visit we came on one of my Motorcycles. So much better than riding a Car on this Road. The unobstructed 360* views Wow.

This is always a fun thing to see! I hadn't been down the street for over 6 years and when my husband and I visited he had never seen it at all, so I told him this was a must. We drove down the street on our last day while we were heading out of town and he really enjoyed it. It's one of those things you really don't appreciate until you see it yourself. If you have never been I highly suggest either driving yourself or taking an Uber just to experience it.

Only open at certain times now so be sure to plan your drive. But if you get the chance to drive it, do it.

This place was kind of disappointment for me. It's sincerely extremely touristic and to get there you need to be skilled enough to get into a line of cars heading there. Mind also the fact that once you choose wrong way, the streets will be throwing you into one side only and you will have a hard time to correct your mistake, turn around somewhere and return back to try to get into the line once again.
Traffic specifically at the upped entrance of the street is regulated by police and I'm not surprised, as it would be even bigger mess otherwise.
The road is a one way road. Driving through the street takes 1-2 minutes and you'll be most probably moving in a train of cars driving after each other. On the way, you will be meeting pedestrians that want to walk the street without a car.

This is regarded as the most crooked street in the world and that is reason enough for it to be included in a to-do list of visiting San Francisco. What they don't mention is that this part of SF has among the steepest streets in the world. If you live here and climb these streets on a daily basis, then you don't need to join any gym !

One of the crooked-est streets in the world! It's a bit of a hike to get to the top but a fun walk down with great views of Russian Hill neighborhood.

Walked to visit, tons of tourists, its an active street, there's a drought in California this year, so the plants and everything weren't as kept.

It was nice to say we've been there and done that but it may be a little hyped up more that it should be. Would hate to live on that street and people constantly around.

Almost planned to miss it but did have to go and see what it is about.
The drive was interesting but otherwise there is nothing much over there. There were not many pretty flowers this time of the year

What's not to love? I walked down the hill taking my time to take pics. Being April, a lot of things weren't in bloom but it's still a lovely area.

beautiful! you can walk and drive (recommended from up to down, lol). If you can do both, much better.

Back windshield was broken & we were robbed. They had signs posted but, w/thought with so much traffic & people. No way. We only stopped in San Francisco for 15 mins @lombard & hyde. Got robbed there after being here in Cali for 8 days. Never again to San fran

I arrived at the upper part and took a walk down the Lombard street. It is indeed a beautiful sight to behold. Most lucky are the houses on the street, though their days be flooded with tourists passing by.
I recommend a 30 minutes leisurely visit, but if you are in a hurry, you could perhaps get a drive through.

We were lucky enough to take a tour during which our van driver drove down this "crookedest street"......crazy zig-zagging the entire way down. Fun!
A few days later, while walking in Little Italy, so we decided to walk the street too, so we started our walk on Lombard at Columbus Street and proceeded to the very top of it......steep walking, for sure! The walk back down Lombard to Columbus was SOO much easier.
A must-do while visiting San Francisco!

Quick place to visit. We had our Uber drop us off at the top and we walked down ans back to our hotel. Super cool and pretty.

The place is a must since SF. The view from the top of the street is beautiful and the neighborhood is super cute. Don’t miss Lombard Steet when in SF

We went down "the crooked street" on a Friday around mid-day and had no line of cars and a conservative amount of tourists taking pictures. Though the flowers are not in season yet, in my opinion it's still worth visiting.

We did the crooked street at night. Our cab driver let us look from the top and it was just amazing then as we went down it. It was an awesome experience. It was relatively expensive by cab--$50.00 for four of us plus tip. But it was worth every penny.

Had the chance to pass by this street and admire the beautiful neighborhood sorrounding it, if you're nearby, don't miss it!

What a wonderful surprise to drive down this street. You definitely need to pay attention to your driving, as the zig zags are intense.
The houses on this street, multi-million dollar dwellings are beautifully landscaped.
While pretty, wouldn't want to live on this street, just for the traffic from tourists, and getting in and out of your driveway.
A must-see and must-do when in SF.
if you don't have a car, not a problem, lots of opportunities to take some amazing selfies.

Yes a little touristy but it was really fun to drive and to see all of the people taking pictures as cars snake their way downhill. And the houses and gardens are absolutely beautiful! Definitely worth doing once.

Lombard Street is one of the most famous streets in San Francisco. With the vegetation (which is very pretty) you can not see much. It's more amazing in the pictures taken of a drone rather with the naked eye.
But it is still a must!

It is a place to see in San Francisco without being an exceptional place.
The neighborhood is however nice and the view beautiful.
Then the street is crowded.
Very touristy

No visit to San Francisco is complete without walking down (or up) Lombard street.
We chose the sane route and walked down the street to see the cars struggling on its sharp turns.

Unless you are looking for bragging rights or an IG type of photo, it's not as steep or scary as some of the other streets and being only a block seems so touristy. However, it's free, and with the cost of SF, that's a great selling point!

It’s from the movies. Motion sick people beware, though.
This only takes a few minutes and is a great tourist spot.

We rode down this unusual street in a Gocar. It was great fun and very pretty. Would recommend doing it in the little yellow cars.

We dropped our car off before visiting but wish we'd kept it a few hours longer just to experience driving down Lombard Street.
You have to see it, even if you don't get to drive down it. Very pretty with the bushes and flowers and entertaining to watch people drive down.

We had friends from CT visiting and this was on their list. It's an iconic street in SF and they loved it as we do living here. After been in so many cities here in the U.S. and cities in 20 countries, we've not seen a street quite like it.
The views are amazing and if any view is obstructed, just so you know, people live on this street. It's steep, so best to be driven down if you're not able to walk down a steep street. San Francisco has a lot of them :-)

Lombard Street in San Francisco is undoubtedly a highlight of the city. Its iconic switchbacks make it a true landmark. If you want to drive the street yourself, I recommend doing so in the morning to make the most of it. Later in the day, there may be traffic jams at the entrance, which could spoil the experience.
A smart alternative is to park your vehicle below Lombard Street and make the climb on foot. Be warned, though: car break-ins are unfortunately not uncommon here, so don't leave valuables in your car.
Lombard Street is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful streets I have ever seen. Its beauty is not only impressive in reality, but also known from film and television. A walk or drive along this famous street will surely give you unforgettable memories.

Visited Lombard street twice. Once we walked down the adjacent steps and second we drove down the short winding road.
Well maintained properties and landscapes but that is probably down to the residents that live in the road.

Had to be visited as had seen amazing photos.
Sadly was disappointed . It is just a road after all. Couldn’t get the full pics as would really need to be in a plane lol.
Was pretty and lots of flowers. The houses are cute. It is a busy tourist area all trying to get pics.
The cable car does stop right there too which was good.

Interesting activity. Fun to see the drivers’ reactions while controlling their vehicles. We didn’t drive down. We walked up from near Ghirardelli square (tiring walk). Then walked down the stairs on Lombard. I think the drive down is doable. But it won’t be as much fun as walking down and watching. That’s what we did. The stairs on both sides are surrounded by flowers, which is what makes this place attractive. A lot of people didn’t file the instructions and jumped onto the street to take pictures. Avoid doing this. Make it pleasurable for both yourselves and the drivers.

Fun to see this windy road. Take the cable car or be prepared for walking very steep hills!
Cable car stops right at the top of the road and you can walk the stairs to get to the bottom

A real unique street in the world - there isn't such anywhere.
This was my third time in SF and third time I drove it. Excellent views over SF, specially Coit tower and Bay bridge from the top, as well Alcatraz to the left.
I cannot understand people calling this a tourist trap - you don't pay anything to see it - it's free, and no one advertises nor pushes you to visit it....but you certainly will...
The only people who're at a loss, and in a trap, are local residents.

Very steep but a wee bit disappoint if I’m honest not much to see but there is the cable car to take you up there

It will not disappoint! An interesting little street to say the least. Hurry up before they start charging!

Hotels are mid-range. Nothing fancy. Lots of eateries to choose from. The "most crooked" street in the world. . . only a block long but couldn't be more crooked. Worth seeing if you have a little time.

A fun street to see with all of the switch-backs. You can walk the street. It was extremely crowded when we went and I am so glad that most visitors were respectful to the people who live here. I'm sure it must be tiresome to the residents. I do appreciate their hospitality.

Many of the tours go through this area plus you can drive it yourself. Pretty cool but don't fret if your schedule is busy and you miss it.

I grew uo just 2 blocks from the top. The traffic lineup is crazy going past Van Ness especially in summer. Better to drive up Greenwich-1 block South)- then park on Hyde or Larkin then walk the hill so you can enjoy the scenery. The smell of clutch and brake lining is a drawback on Lombard itself.

Another icon in the city we had to see. We jumped off a tram that passes nearby and joined in the throngs of people and cars that were making the pilgrimage. Great to have seen in person what you see so often on screen…….

We drove past by coincidence on a weekend day; there were cars bumper to bumper up the hill. Went back on a weekday, very nice. The drive up the hill is mind-bogglingly steep -- good thing it doesn't snow in SF!

So if you love to walk try walking up Lombard St from China Town. We started at Washington Square . I'm a little too old for steep walks but I did make it to the bottom of the switchback. My two grandchildren actually ran to the top. the views are amazing and I was tired at the end. Get exercise !

Yes, it's different to any street we saw and it's one of the spots everybody want to visit. But it's full of tourists and I feel sorry for the people who are living there. The gardens in the curve are beautiful with lots of flowers. People are walking up and down and crowd is everywhere. Many drivers in the cars were stupidly driving having mobile in one hand to take video and the other on the steering wheel. I wondered that no policeman was there - this is waiting for not good accident. Well we saw it, it was interesting but if we will visit San Francisco again we will miss it.

This was one of the main things that I wanted to see while we were in San Francisco. The street was very interesting, and worth the trip down it. The view of the street from other parts of the city is beautiful.

Went here in a hippy van. Really cool. Nothing bigger than a van is comfortable on those twists and turns. Fantatic llittle experience. Get your cameras out.

Fantastic to see in real life after seeing it in the movies.A good climb after getting off the open top Big Bus but so worth seeing one of most iconic streets in the world.Fantastic views also.We called for a coffee at Coffee Berry before getting back on the bus.

The View from too or the street is awesome, the sátira erre se cure to walk, garden ofers also a great view , also you Can see from there Alcatraz jail

The views are great and watching the cars navigate their way down is fun to watch. Lovely flowers lining the street. Be aware it is quite steep to get to Lombard Street.

felt sorry for the people who live there, noisy loud music from cars and go peds ruined it.
on the must see but steep climb to the top.

Even in December driving Lombard street was an amazing experience. The curves are tight but that only added to the delight of my girls

Another symbol of San Francisco is definitely Lombard Street. The road, very narrow, counts several hairpin bends. The street is very crowded and worth a visit if you pass in this area

Just stopping by and taking a few photos would be enough. I did not spend much time here. It was not long. It is a nice and beautiful street. Nothing more than that

Known as the crookedest street in the world, Lombard Street is a must see if you are in San Francisco.
The easiest way to get there is to get a cable car which stops right at the top.
You can walk up or down using the steps either side, or if you are brave enough, drive down. But take it easy as you go down as there are short zig zags.
You can get fantastic photos from the bottom and great views of the city at the top.
Be warned, pavements and roads are really steep around here and it’s really hard going if walking there.

You don't get much of an experience, and little view, walking or driving it. Not much else the area to make it worthwhile.

Overall it was interesting to see. When we first arrived there were cars backed up for blocks and going to wait hours to drive down the hill. We saw it from the bottom and it was fun to see. However, I would never wait hours to drive on a bendy road.
We were there on early Christmas morning and were to drive it. There was one other car there. No waiting.

The crookedest part of the street is between Hyde and Leavenworth Streets. The rest of the street can be a steep walk. The street in general has beautiful views. If your gonna street park make sure you secure any valuables there has been a lot of smash and grabs from cars.

After a day of sightseeing, we did drive down, definitely going the 5 MPH that is marked. The next morning we walked UP and took some pics and saw cyclists as well as cars going down(definitely not going the 5 MPH)!

If you have the time you should visit this street. It is fully planted so if you go in late summer you can't see all of it from the bottom or top. It is better to walk it from the top to get a good perspective.

Lombard Street was our first and last stop in San Francisco. Well yes, we traveled it twice by car at different times, and then we returned on foot. If you want to have it all to yourself, I recommend 7 in the morning, but be aware that you will be against the sun.

I was here in the summertime of last year. Nothing to dislike about this place. I really liked to how pretty the landscaping looked.

Great quirky street to visit a must see when in San Francisco. Queue of cars waiting to drive down. Nice walk down and steep walk up.

We were fortunate to have our son drop us off at the top and be able to walk down at an easy pace. The flowers were beautiful. Walking up would have been more challenging.

Lots of noise and little nuts. It's not worth it... it's true that even if you know it's going to let you down you're going. In fact many people, you can not take very cute photos because the inclination does not allow it and beyond traveling down the side stairs do not waste more time...

I’d heard a lot about this street
Photography does not do it justice
It’s slightly mad but definitely worth a visit
It’s free to walk or drive
Walking it is quite physical. But definitely recommended

I have visited about 12 major cities in the USA 🇺🇸 since 1985 and San Francisco in California is one of the most splendid cities that I have even seen in the USA 🇺🇸 that needs a special mention.
The city is known for its steep rolling hills and eclectic mix of architecture across varied neighborhoods, as well as its cool summers, fog, and landmarks, including the Golden Gate Bridge, cable cars, Alcatraz, along with the Chinatown. Lombard Street is known for the one-way block on Russian Hill between Hyde and Leavenworth Streets, where eight sharp turns are said to make it the most crooked street in the world. It was very exciting to visit this street that was distinctly unique and it was a travellers delight !

We couldn't come to San Francisco and not visit Lombard Street - the crooked street!
We used the cable cars to get dropped off at the top and walked down. We didn't have great weather, but it honestly didn't matter. Steps down both sides of the street make it a lot easier for pedestrians, but it does get busy!

It is worth a visit by foot or by car. The area does give you a good view of a portion of San Francisco life.

Public transport dropped near top of road and walked down it. Cool to see in person. It’s a must see if you never have and visiting San Fran.

I have seen this street many times on television, but seeing and walking all the bends make it an interesting walk.

The famous street is cool to visit but a very busy tourist spot but really glad we seen it and the view from the street over SF is picturesque

We did it by car. To be patient to access it because the place is crowded and when the police make the traffic, it takes even longer.
It is really an atypical place, nice because very well flowered and hello slope!. The view of the bay from above is fantastic, but this is true of all the nearby streets too. Nice colorful houses in the neighborhood also to see.

It's only one block, but it's fun to see the cars coming slowly back-and-forth down the hill. All of the flowers on the hill enhances it's beauty.

Lombard Street is a famous east–west street in San Francisco, which is worldwide known for a steep, one-block section with eight hairpin turns, as seen in many movies (ANT man, Pixar's In and out, Magnum Force etc.). Stretching from The Presidio east to The Embarcadero, most of the street's western segment is a major thoroughfare designated as part of U.S. Route 101. The famous one-block section, claimed to be "the crookedest street in the world" besides Wall Street in NY (joke), is located along the eastern segment in the beautiful Russian Hill neighborhood.
Be alert & careful, lately a lot of quick car break ins (smashed back windows) and robberies happened in the area.

There are stairs on both sides of the hill so pedestrians can go up and down.
Both sides are narrow and it's difficult for two vehicles to pass each other.
Luxury homes are lined on both sides.
When you reach the bottom, you come to a one-lane road with a fair amount of traffic.
I tried various ways to take a distinctive photo of the hill,
but there were so many tourists that it was difficult to find the right timing.
The road at the top of the hill towards Alcatraz Island is also a good place to take photos of the cable cars.

I don’t have to visit the crooked street. I live near the top of it (part/time). This review is information for tourists who want to visit.
There’s over 263 steps, some steep and some shallow. Wear good walking shoes.
DON’T bring your car; car window smashings and thefts are frequent in the area. Parking is often a challenge, and limited to 2 hours - and the police are more vigilant about parking infractions than chasing car smashers. (If you block my driveway with your car, I keep the police number on my speed-dial, as do many neighbors.) Take the #45 bus to Hyde & Union, just 2.5 blocks from the crooked street, or walk or rideshare.
Use restrooms BEFORE you go to Lombard: there’s no public restrooms within several blocks radius, and most restaurants nearby are open only for dinner.
If you must drive down Lombard, you will wait in line on Lombard - possibly a long line. You cannot line up on Hyde St because you’d block the cablecar. So try to go in very early morning.
But walking it is a better experience.

It was located near Fisherman's wharf. It was walkable for me from Fishermans Wharf. But you may use Uber. I visited in the early morning. There was no one. What if I visited in the afternoon? I had to see a lot of people. Admission was absolutely free. I used Google maps. The maps didn't show how steep it was! Anyway, it was a good exercise for me!

We both walked it and drove through it in a car since it's such a unique curvy street with beautiful views of San Francisco from above. Cable car is the only public transportation that comes close to the beginning on top of the street.

This is just one of those classical tourist attractions that is a must, no matter how cliché or "mainstream" it may seem. The view to the east is amazing, and from the top of the street you get a great look over the iconic hills and roads of San Francisco. Either driving or walking down the street is a fun experience. Personally I recommend renting electric scooters and driving down (Lime offer daypass with unlimited miles for $20). 10/10 attraction!

The street itself is nothing special: 0 stars. The flowers are a bit more interesting: 2 stars. Don't get the hype!

Worth seeing for its originality. It conveys all the serenity and calm of San Francisco with its flowers and staid rhythms. For the perfect photo, the internet is better because both from above and below the results are different from those hoped for.

This was an interesting street to visit. So unique to watch cars go down the most crooked street in the world. It was a blast to stand on Lombard St. Beautiful scenery! ENJOYED!

The street is iconic and interesting. Would recommending getting dropped off at the top of the street as it is a fairly steep incline. It is a good spot for social media pics. And, certainly worth a visit.

After an amazing walking tour up from Fisherman Wharf, we ventured here. The view is amazing. We watched cars drive down. We walked up the 135 steps to see the view to continue our tour.

Walking the streets of San Francisco, my teenage daughter suggested we go down Lombard Street. The truth is that I didn't really know what it was about but I have to admit that in addition to being picturesque it seemed like a steep street full of grace.
Evidently it seems cinematic, the cars that descend it during its zigzagging path seem to come out of a movie, seeing the classic and colored Volkswagen beetles, as well as modern cars all tuned with young drivers and with music at full volume in an arduous task to wind that I continued zigzagging as if it were a roller coaster.
For photography fans, an interesting tourist site, and also a nice physical exercise to observe beautiful views of San Francisco. What's more, I shared my photos on the networks and people liked them very much. There must be something about Lombard Street

Very long street including the famous part with its hairpin bends! Very impressive.
A large number of motels are located there.
I also recommend the Lombard Plaza motel.

While no one can deny that Lombard Street is entirely unique, I found it somewhat anticlimactic. I'm not sure what I expected but the WOW factor just wasn't there for me. That being said, I am not disappointed that we took the time to see it but I wouldn't have gone out of my way if it hadn't been included in our city tour.

Take the Cable Car to the top of Lombard St then you can zigzag all the way down. I’m so glad I don’t live there, the tourists would drive me crazy.

Lombard Street is best known for its short, winding stretch between Hyde Street and Leavenworth Street – a motif familiar from countless films and series. This section with the red cobblestones and the loving planting is actually pretty to look at, but also very crowded.
Whether you want to join the long car queue to drive down the road is up to everyone. A short photo stop on foot was completely enough for us. Apart from this famous part, Lombard Street is a very ordinary street.

We arrived in this famous tourist trap with the cable car but both from above and below it is not easy to photograph as it is a road that is regularly traveled by cars and also, compared to movies, in the center is full of flower beds that do not make it perceived as we see it in movies. Surely the images we are used to seeing on the big screen are made with drones or from a distant perspective!
Once covered downhill it is not well connected with the fisherman; it is convenient for us to do a nice stretch on foot downhill and take a tram once near the sea.
The view of San Francisco from above is still worth it 😊

It's a lot smaller than I expected! It's still worth a look. Packed with tourists. We took a cable car to the top of the hill, walked down and back up!

It's an easy walk from the wharf and you can get great views of San Francisco and Alcatraz as you walk up here too. It's an icon that shouldn't be missed!

You can see a typical San Francisco scene. It is truly a tourist attraction. It's interesting to watch cars zigzag down very steep slopes, and it's also nice to see the houses on the left and right sides of the slopes in lovely colors.

loved it so much that I went down it twice, The road was winding and curving, but it adds to the fun.

The view is amazing, and so the flowers but its nos easy ti get there, it’s on the top of SF and also it’s to crowded, don’t go there by car.

I can understand that for some reason it is part of the history of the city.
But really, there is nothing special to see, apart from tourists who do not understand what they can photograph.

My wife and I first did the drive down Lombard Street during the Love Tour. This allowed us to see the beautiful flowers and ogle at the pedestrians crowding the residents’ driveways along the road. We went back later and drove it ourselves allowing us the opportunity to see the views through our own windshield. The vistas from here are breathtaking!

pretty nice views of the streets leading up to it and then driving down it. the drive down is tight but a must do.

OK, you need sometimes to be a bit patient to get to Lombard Street and wait a while to be able to make your way. But this Is a unique experience and you should definitely give it a try.

Not really that interesting. I would say it is fun to walk up or down it if you are in the area but I wouldn't make it a destination.

Get ready for a really neat experience, but make sure you are ready to get there if you are walking! HA! It's uphill from the Wharf that will make your calves scream, but totally worth the cool experience! The Hydrangeas were in bloom and absolutely beautiful!

It is an interesting solution to make cars move slower. The street itself, arrangement of residential area, and landscape planning are quite successfull. It is worth to visit and walk alone the Lombard Street.

Iconic, well worth it, catch the cable cars to the top and walk down. It would be better in the spring when the flowers were out but worth it any time of year

This is funny, but we didn't get the point of this road. Its easy to drive. not long.Goes sharp down.

The family really wanted us to drive down Lombard Street. After reading the reviews I was pretty nervous about trying to make the drive down in our 2018 Suburban. It was a tight squeeze but we made it down with no problems. If you have experience driving large vehicles you should be fine with one on Lombard. So glad we did it!

We did a walking tour of San Francisco which was AMAZING! Part of this took us to Lombard Street which is worth seeing but is so busy it has Police controlling traffic flow at the top and bottom and crowds walking up and down the street too! Nice to see but most of the road obscured by flowers when we were there. Not worth going out of your way and definitely not worth the hassle of trying to drive down t!

The touristy thing to do. It was on the SF list, so I did drive it. Make sure with these SF hills you have good brakes! (LOL) There wasn't anyone driving it when I had come but then after me came 6-7 cars.

We went first thing in the morning- 8am and walked up to Lombard Street. It's no exaggeration that the section up to it is steep! It's unbelievably steep!!
Lombard Street can only be seen in short sections as the planting is dense (but attractive). There are 200+ steps alongside so you can walk to the top - great views down Lombard but you still can't see all the windy sections at once.
It's interesting to visit but only take about 10 mins to visit and take some photos. Go early and avoid the rush...

When you go up to Russian Hill or Telegraph Hill, you can’t eat Lombard Street because it’s so special, narrow, winding and steep!!!Opened in 1922, Lombard Street is one of San Francisco’s main historic streets. Lombard Street clings to the slope of Russian Hill in an incredible slalom. A spectacular 180 meter long portion that made the street famous. It connects Presidio Park in a straight line with the Embarcadero district, along the San Francisco Bay. In the space of a block, Lombard Street effectively makes 8 sharp turns that earned it the title of the most twisted street in the United States. These laces were the best way to hold onto a great slope at 27%. Walking back!

Really not sure what all the fuss was about …
Climbed a very steep hill on foot to view some bends …. Mmm more fool me !!

Classic San Francisco thing to do.
We rented e bikes from a bike rental spot and then went down. Tons of fun and the cars didn’t give us any issues.

One of the world's winding and steepest car roads - known from film and television (beginning with 'The Streets of San Francisco). You can drive them with your own car - but be careful, you touch down easily and should drive very, very slowly... Also doable on foot, but exhausting!

Lombard street is a San Francisco classic. Featured in many films. There is not much to it really-a one way winding street through a very pretty neighbourhood. But you’ve got to go there on a SF walk or catch the cable car.

We have not visited Lombard Street in years. It was just like I remember this time we drove down instead of worked on it it was fun Great and lots of people

Beautiful place! It's a beautiful place! I admire this beauty! I love walking in places like this! Fascinating! 😅🔥👍🤩

It's a must do in SF of course. You can get there on a cable car and can get picked up again after you take your pictures. Indeed the view is great. The car is optional.

I recently drove through Lombard Street in SF and it was such a blast! The winding zigzagging street made for a really fun drive. We did it in the morning and it was amazing However be prepared for lots of tourists It can get pretty crowded, so you have to be careful driving with all the people walking around taking pictures. Make sure your car brakes are in good shape too :) Despite the crowds driving through Lombard Street is definitely worth it We're glad we had a car and got to experience it! Absolutely I highly recommend driving through Lombard Street for a thrilling and unforgettable experience!!!

My daughter wanted to drive down instead of walking. It wasn't as nerve wracking as I thought it would be, you just have to watch for the pedestrians at the entrance as they tend to gather right there at the top!

The streets are steep, but the city view from the top of the street are magnificent. Driving up an incline takes some getting used to but the experience is unforgetable.

Overrated - Long steep walk to get there, and once there its full of insta'wannabe's running in the road to take photos of themselves. The street was full of people and cars coming down it. Nice to see but wont be going back

Our family experience this street on the LOVE BUS TOUR ( HIGHLY RECOMMEND). Our guide told us about this landmark while on our way there and took us down the steep curves in a 60's/70's tricked out Scooby doo looking van! I would recommend doing this on a tour and not individually. There are multiple spectators standing around the sidewalks and at the bottom. I preferred being with someone that could navigate it while learning the rich history of the street.

We got the cable car part way then walked the last part stood at the top of this iconic street and just walked part way down,it was steeper then it looks, the traffic goes down real slow

We drove our own car down it. What a rush. Would recommend it to everyone if you are able. The street car went by it and we decided we had to go down it.

We walked all the way up to Lombard Street. Was worth the walk. It reminded me the Herbie (Walt Disney VW car) that went down this amazing street. Not to be missed

Not sure why this is so popular. It is not exactly user friendly to reach, and you cant even walk down. Perhaps in the past you could i'm not sure.

Front the Hyatt Hotel we walk for 10 minutes to this place, beautiful and peaceful area, well recommended, the perfect place to take pictures and enjoy nature.

I think it is very overrated and you could keep it better! If you are in the area it is fine to visit it but I think it is not worth getting here x see this road. If it were say with there lower flower beds without the tall flowers you would be able to perceive the verticality of the street with the curves ..

It’s not as pretty and colourful as in the picture, very overgrown! I’m glad we walked down for the experience, but it was hard work getting there and then walking down.

Drove down the hill. Very interesting for a first timer. I only saw cars driving down it and never up it. People can walk up or down the hill, but there are stairs to the side so people are not walking on the actual street. People actually are not allowed to walk in the street, there is a sign. I went in the evening, maybe around 7pm and it was windy and cold! Maybe it just happened to be that day. And on the way to Lombard St, you'll also drive over other very hilly hills to get there! So cool!

If you are in the area, it's a steep street with pretty, well maintained gardens, where you can watch cars negotiate the slope and tight bends, other than that quite ordinary.

We walked to and then down Lombard St. after hiking up to Coit Tower. Though it was winter, it was still beautiful... and just as crooked as ever!

If you are in san Francisco, taka a drive on Russian Hill and down to Lombard Street.
The steeps roads leading to the top are awesome and driving through the winding Lombard is a must-have experience.

This is an iconic San Francisco local that is a must see. It is so unique and different, yet quintessential to San Francisco. Reading a little about it’s history is even more interesting. Try walking it as well as driving it. That said, a few things to keep in mind:
- The line to enter Lombard can be really really long…… especially on a weekend.
- The total time for the experience will be about 30 seconds.
- Flower/bush beds planted along the road make it hard to see an visualize its grandness.
- There will likely be a bunch of tourists at the top and bottom so be careful driving.
- Driving down it is a thrilling experience
- The drive/walk is free of charge.

Wow! We came here some years ago and this is a must do! Walked up and down and drove on it and have to say, it is crooked! Great views from the top and, if you are able, well worth a walk to the top.

Lombard Street is definitely worth a visit whilst in San Francisco. We drove down the 8 curvy hairpins whilst on a private Mini Convertible tour (see other review) and then later that day went back there and walked up the 200 + steps from the bottom to the top of it. Very quirky road with beautiful views over the bay and beautifully manicured gardens on both sides of the road. You need to have a fair level of fitness to climb the steps but if you take it easy it can be done at your own pace to enjoy the views.

We got a good view of the full street from Coit Tower but close up you can't really see it in full as the trees cover most of it up. We walked up one side and watched people, (mostly tourists as they were filming their journey), weaving their way slowly down. It was really busy with people everywhere when we visited on a Saturday but we hired a GoCar and drove down it ourselves on a Tuesday and there was hardly anyone around. Both sides are lined with private residences so be mindful of this as they go in and out of their drives!

It’s obviously a very interesting street and attracts a lot of visitors. It sadly also attracts a lot of unsafe drivers who see fit to video the experience of driving down it on their phones while driving (even when a passenger is doing the exact same thing). There are some good views of it from the bottom of the hill, and it’s difficult to appreciate it’s steepness until you are there. The gardens are beautifully maintained.

We walked up and down the street one day and drove the next. Driving up was a little scary but overall a fun experience both times.

The Powell-Hyde trolley stops at the top. Nice view from top and bottom of the street, but lots of tourists. Fun to drive or ride down this crooked street.

It's one of San Francisco's iconic landmarks: a series of tight hairpin bends along Lombard Street. You can get to the top from the Cable Car going up Hyde Street. Very nice houses on the sides with tiny gardens. Impossible to photograph from above or below. The famous photo that portrays her in its entirety is taken from the top of the hill opposite with telephoto lens.. A little overrated!

Great to be able to drive down this historic street. Easy to add into our sightseeing as we were leaving the city. It’s pretty iconic.

Visiting Lombard Street felt like stepping into a postcard - if that postcard also included the chaos of a city traffic jam. The journey to this iconic winding road was nothing short of an adventure, with bumper-to-bumper traffic and scarce parking spaces making it clear that the whole city seemed to have the same idea.
Despite the crowd, credit must be given to the city for managing the influx of vehicles entering the famously steep and serpentine street. The scene was a bustling mix of tourists snapping photos, city trams gliding smoothly past, and futuristic self-driving taxis navigating the chaos with surprising precision.
Driving down Lombard Street itself was a test of both nerves and skill. The steep grade and sharp switchbacks, combined with precarious stopping points at the edges, made it a thrilling experience - not for the faint of heart. Yet, once you’re on the spiral road, the perfectly manicured flower beds and stunning views of San Francisco make the adrenaline worth it.
Lombard Street is not just a destination-it’s a rite of passage for visitors to San Francisco. A chaotic yet unforgettable experience, where beauty meets thrill on one of the steepest streets in the world.

Be sure to walk to the top for great views of the steep streets and coit tower, that was better than actually standing at the bottom and seeing the street itself.

We had rented a car to go up north for the day. When we returned we expected a cheesy experience. If you have never driven the San Francisco hills, they are thrilling and steep. I am so glad I don't have to drive those hills daily. Part of the fun of Lombard street is the other tourists dashing to and fro. I am so glad we had that experience.

Had a blast driving down one-way in our convertible while enjoying the great views of the bay in front of us! Not recommended for large vehicles or bad drivers!

Disappointing. All dry and no color for the vegetation that is very high and not cut. From below and from above you can see nothing because of the tall grass and never cut. With the car you go down but the curves and streets of my village in Abruzzo are definitely more intriguing and interesting.

A must do at least once. Drive down park walk up and then walk down. Go early so you get a parking. It gets crowded. Very short drive. Beautiful view on a clear day

We walked up Hyde Street to get to the top
of Lombard Street. It’s a fair hike and halfway up you want to give up but keep going! We found it was less busy doing it this way as most cars park at the bottom for a photo opportunity. As you’ve already hiked the hill you can take in and enjoy reading about the different houses on a steady downhill walk.

This was a must see. Nice to look at because it is separate. Also that many people have to drive there. Recognizable from the movies. You have to be in a very good condition to get there:-)

I travelled to SF for the first time and had always heard about Lombard street so I wanted to check it out! Let me tell you.. I’m in pretty good shape as I’m only 21 years old, but I was absolutely dying making my way up to this sight. It’s about a 40 minute walk purely uphill, so steep to the point where you feel like it’d be easier to crawl up. This walk is not for the weak let me tell you, I was struggling immensely. We got to the view and there was quite a few people there, however the street was a lot more different looking than what I had seen online, due to the angle of the street you couldn’t really get the whole vision. I reluctantly climbed the straps up Lombard Street to get a better view, I had to climb those stairs as if I was a toddler, taking one step at a time because I was SO exhausted. The view at the top is gorgeous, yet it’s still not a great view of the street itself. I would say overall this experience wasn’t very worth it and I wish I had gone to see the Painted Ladies instead, purely because the view of the street itself was very difficult to see, however still very gorgeous!

Very busy with tourists and its quite a novelty street with its several bends. Folks enjoy driving down.
I think the best thing about it is the view across to Coit Tower. There's some pretty houses here covered in flowers too.

Short quite a steep street, but pretty short, too. I decided not to drive, because there was a que. If you really want some crazy photos that it is worth to wait a bit.

Even if the walk is at least as arduous as the drive, it is definitely worth the effort. Lombard Street is a must-see when visiting San Francisco.

Yu have to walk this street and drive it!!!! Driving it is so cool!!! and walking it and watching the cars come down is cool too!! Have someone at the bottom with a camera!!

Drove the curviest road in the world! Not very long. Can walk the steps down or drive. Congested but fun to see. The houses and gardens are beautiful. Feel bad for the owners. People are always in front of house.

Gorgeous stop!
We come here all the time and it never gets old enjoying the views. You do not need a lot of time here, but definitely pretty.

A short stretch of road downhill with very narrow hairpin bends, to be done slowly. Very popular because very famous. A good memory to take home.

The view from the top of Lombard street is beautiful, you get to see the bay. Walking down was great but walking back up I think I nearly died.
It was something nice to do for half-hour. Its a shame the flowers wasn't in bloom.

Lombard Street is neat, but crowded. Honestly, we thought driving down it wasn't nearly as interesting as the view from the top, and looking up at it from the bottom. Watching from the bottom and some of these longer cars that try to attempt the drive down is actually fun!

Bit hard to move around as there always traffic from cars as well as tourists but the view worth it.

We went early on a Sunday morning and had the whole thing to ourselves. Later in the day the line to drive down was several blocks long. Can't imagine what the people living there much do to get home. Gardens are lovely.

It's absolutely beautiful. It's not long but it's worth a visit. You can take beautiful pictures. You can just as easily get it up and down without difficulty.

Nice experience for the whole family to enjoy. It is only a short ride and lots of people and cars, but everything is organized.

Was good to see Lombard Street as have seen it on TV started at the bottom and walked up to the top, small steps easily done at your own pace

The hills to get there are steep if you are walking, but the view is always worth the trouble in SF. However, I found it silly for the line of cars to just go down a curvy narrow street. We enjoyed going up and appreciating the houses and gardens just on the side of this street. Lots of people as it is very popular.

Had to visit after watching, Gordon, Gino and Fred trying to drive down it. Quirky little street, was glad to be walking down rather than up as it’s so steep.

It's a steep climb , easier to walk down. (Cablecar stops at the top)
I just feel sorry for the residents living here having all us Tourists walking past there houses constantly.
But its kept beautifully

Always a fun thing to do is catch the tram from Hyde up to see the cars queue for the sheer pleasure of driving down the winding Lombard Street
We walked down back to Fisherman’s Wharf

The steepest street in the US! So much fun to go down, it's like a rollercoaster! But the Russian Hill neighborhood is so beautiful to admire this is a must experience attraction; it's not just a street, it's a cultural experience!

Go by cable car or just walk to there, nice view, a iconic street in SF. I've been there four times, for me is a must see.

Everyone needs to drive down Lombard Street at least once in their life. I had people in my car both laughing with delight and screaming with terror as we navigated down the steep slope and winding curves. Then stop and take a picture at the end. You won’t be disappointed.

This is the craziest road you may ever see, where you can drive slowly through a completely sharp zigzag steeply declining road midst of quite gorgeous homes and gardens.

This is one of those streets that you've known about for years and you know will be a big tourist attraction. We didn't drive down it on our most recent trip to San Francisco, but we walked alongside it and got to see it, which was neat. It seems like a bit of a pain to actually drive down it since it's crazy busy and you're just sitting in traffic, but it's nice to actually see something that you've known about for years.

If you have a car, this is something you will want to do, drive down this crooked street. But you will encounter traffic jams of cars waiting to drive the street. Pity the people who live along it as they face congested traffic all the time. It's an iconic San Francisco experience.

It's fun to do it by car...even if you go at walking pace given the queue to get down...and it's definitely a must see in San Francisco. The view from the top is amazing.

This is one steep and winding road easy to get to by the cable cars and worth it for the views of San Francisco.

I went in two seasons. Summer and winter.
In the summer it was much more beautiful, flowery, green. In winter it was a little duller. But if you're lucky enough to catch a cloudless day, the view from the top of the street to San Francisco Bay is breathtaking! A tip: go down the street by car (it's an event!), park on the street below. Go up Lombard walking on the left side and go down on the right! Enjoy all the views and every little piece of it.

If you can handle walking steep hills, this is a must-do in SF. Lots of fun and good photo opportunity. I feel sorry for the residents on that street!

Famous throughout the world, appeared in many movies and what a crazy piece of road. The best way to appreciate this road is to walk up the back way up Hyde Street, which is steep in places. When you get to the top of will probably join a crowd of people taking pictures, so be patient. You can also take a cable car most of the way if you don't fancy the walking up the hill. You can walk down on either side of the road, or if you are driving you can, like many people, drive down Lombard Street. The best place to take pictures once you reach the bottom is from over the road.

Walked to the bottom of Lombard Street. EXHAUSTING! It was all uphill to get there. Worth it once I was there but you need to take it slow. If cable cars are working, try to jump on one of those to get there. I heard many people saying it was scary to drive down Lombard Street but they all loved it. And there were no accidents (at least while I was there). The flowers there are beautiful and the view is fantastic. Try it if you can!

Not quite what I was expecting as I thought it was going to be a much longer stretch of road than it actually is, but it certainly is winding. The pavement walk along the side is not very steep and allows you to see the cars slowly maneuvering their way through the turns.

We were so glad we still had our rental car for this! We own the Thomas Kinkade painting of San Francisco and it felt so cool to view it from the same perspective and then drive the crazy turns. People were watching us and it was really cool and beautiful

You can’t go to San Francisco and not visit Lombard Street. It’s a steep crooked street. You may wait a while to drive down, but it’s worth the wait. So beautifully landscaped as well.

very picturesque! It is a street that is always full of cars and tourists. It's a free SF traction and worth checking out.

On previous occasions in San Francisco I have driven down Lombard Street, this time I decided to exercise some eco-tourism and walked down. Driving it is more fun

I fell in love with this beautiful flowery street. We went there on foot, the east view is splendid and what about the magnificent houses. To see and see!

I don't know what else to say - it's a street. Nice to take some pictures but that's about it. It was pretty crowded when I went so be prepared for that.

The steep twisting and turning street seen in so many films is well worth a visit. The gardens that run down the centre are well maintained and incredibly, people live there. The steps at both sides of the road are a very steep climb but worth it just to be able to say you have been there!

Look.. I liked to meet Lombard Street, I liked the surrounding area too... but I didn't find it all rs... the vegetation was kind of needing to prune, so the pictures down there didn't get so cool, didn't give much to see the street curves.

Very beautiful street with flowers in bloom and cars winding down the curves at walking pace. Lots of tourists here and it's worth walking down one side of the street and back up the other.

We didn’t hire a car whilst staying in San Fransisco so hiked up the steep hills from Fisherman’s Wharf to see this iconic road. As I have knee problems and struggle going downhill we used the stairs at the side which are no problem at all. The road is in a beautiful area with expensive houses each side and is a must to see.

It is a quick visit, but that is very worth it, as it is one of those places that has history and stay in our memories of movies, watched series!!
It is a small street, full of tourists from all parts of the world!!!
The view of the city, where we are at the top of the street, is amazing!!! Very nice!!!
Going down and up the street is a fun experience!!!
It's worth it

Glad we went earlier in the morning (before 10:00 am) as there was no line. Also walked it more at mid-day. Was very busy at that point. Into the evening time, we would see lines for it.

Famous twisty street. Up close less impressive than the hype. Still worth a visit though a bit difficult to get to by public transport

Interesting location in a city environment.
Quite odd but done to get up the hill before autos.
Residents keep it well maintained. But must hate the tourists always hanging around
A must see and it free.

Pretty experience - the bushes are a little over grown. can't see the street to good from the bottom. but if you walk up the stairs you can get good pictures when cars drive down the road.

Definitely worth seeing. My two young kids loved riding down, my wife not so much. It’s not something you get to experience often.

I have finally ticked this on my travel bucket list. It’s beautiful, the gardens, and the view. We used the Big Bus Hop on Hop off to stop in Lombard St. What a club!!! I felt like it was 45 degrees slant but it is 27 degrees slant. Please wear comfortable shoes. Made a stop in your climb to catch your breath. I think the climb took at least 10 mins for me. But it’s worth it!!! You’ll be on top of this Lombard St. While you’re on top of Lombard, scan the views, you could see the city, neighborhood, and wharf ahead. But I think to get a great pictures was to go down. It’s fantastic Photoshoots if there are cars using this zigzag street. Not to worry it was easier to go down as there are steps. But you had to go up those steps as that’s the way for us to return to our tour bus.

Great place to explore. The easiest way to find it is take the old tram where they point out Lombard street. you can get off and walk down the crazy road. Enjoy the walk it’s easy to negotiate.
Well worth a visit.

took my brother, in a wheelchair, to Lombard St and he amazed everyone by flying around the curves to the bottom! It is lovely but not sure it's worth the traffic

It’s beautiful from the top of Lombard and worth the Uber ride or cablecar trip. But be careful with your water bottle. This my water bottle. As we started walking down I accidentally dropped it near the very curvy steep upper section of Lombard. It took off like a shot. We helplessly watched it motor around two curves and go out of sight. I was hoping it got caught up on something and it must have because when we made it down two more curves we saw it take off again and zip out of sight. A few minutes later we were down to the bottom and I found it in this spot, a little worse for the wear, waiting patiently for me in the middle of the road for me. It’s really exciting at Lombard Street.

Not that really amazing, it’s just famous for being romanticized by movies. People living in that area(most of them are just grumpy old people). Parking is hard to find. It’s just a snap and go kind of place. This is real talk. When we visited this may 2024. You can’t see the curvature of the road due to blooming flowers. See images and videos for further information.

It was a must visit place when in San fran but the crowd makes it hard to enjoy the view. Recommend to rent a car and try driving down the road instead.

One must visit this place to see how the street here first goes up and then comes down. The houses built alongside the street are very pretty and makes quite a picturesque view to watch out for.

Touted as the most crooked street in the world, Lombard Street, as you drive down the slope with its twists & turns, gives you a rather unique experience!

If you're in the area I'd say check it out but we walked up a big hill, thought "cool", then walked to the next spot.

a must in San Francisco, to do it walking (on the sidewalks), by car, by bicycle (check the brakes)
I think it's more exciting to do it by vehicle than by watching from the sidewalk.
Walking up or down, it's not for anyone, physically it costs so to take time and air

We wanted to see this has had heard all about it from friends.
Ideal location to get to by Muni or Cable Car. Walked up the stairs one side to the top, got some more photos and then walked down the stairs the other side.
Nice free must do activity when visiting San Francisco.

Lombard Street claims to be "the crookedest street in the world", though several streets in other cities make the same claim. The one curvy block of Lombard is both fun and pretty, but I'm not really sure it merits going out of your way to go there. I think that's especially true if you're on foot, since pedestrians aren't allowed to walk down the crooked street. Instead they're relegated to arrow-straight parallel stairs. I guess I'm glad I saw the thing, but I don't see any reason to ever return.

There really isn’t much to this place. We came for the photos but really after a couple of mins taking a photo we felt it wasn’t worth the hassle - it’s a bit out of the way to get to if you’re not driving and the terrain in the area is very hilly. We walked from Fisherman’s wharf and it wasn’t worth it really.

An amazing road that is both pretty and unique. Well worth the short walk down. Didn't drive down it but was fun watching the cars that did.

This is pretty, and can get crowed. Great for pictures! The ride there was very cool, hills so steep that almost scary but exciting (east coast vermonters) we are not used to that. Bottom line you need to at least see it once. We parked, hard to find spot, keep driving around you'll find one. we walked down and back up. Very cool.

I've been on this crazy street many times but while visiting San Francisco, I had to drive down it one more time. Besides being "the crookedest street in the world," it is very pretty with the residents planting flowers along the way.

Lombard street or the crooked street was BEAUTIFUL. The pretty landscape and steep winding road was very unique and a lot of fun .

This city is so beautiful. The hilly landscape is quite unique. Lombard street looked exactly as I thought it would.

Love to drive by Lombard St. Lots of Fun!!!! took a lor of pictures and enjoy the time there!! Thanks,

We drove down from the top of Lombard, with no wait (not sure this is always the case), which takes about a minute to zig zag your way to the bottom of the windy bit, and then we parked and walked someway up to get more of a feel. It is steep, although the path and steps are helpful, and great views from the top and the bottom. Beautiful in the August light with flowers and shrubs a-plenty. Saw one resident come out to her parked car, and made me wonder what it would me like living in the middle of such a popular tourist attraction. Loved the way everyone was having fun, and we had fun too. Cetainly worth the effort to find and enjoy this unique San Fransisco street, and it is free! So highly recommended.

Granddaughter LOVED Lombard Street. I did, too, even though it was The Who-knows-how-many-times I had driven it.

Lombard Street in San Francisco hasn't changed much since I last zig-zagged down what is described as "the crookedest street in the world" in 1972. Tom Tomczak of the Chicago Tribune and I, then working for the Chicago Daily News, were en route to cover the U.S. Open golf championship at Pebble Beach in Monterey and decided to turn right, then left, then right again to see what Lombard Street is all about. I returned to Lombard Street in 1976 when my wife and I spent the first day of our honeymoon in San Francisco. So here I am again, looking down one of San Francisco's most popular tourist attractions, a street unlike any other. It is a famous east-west street known for a one-block section in the Russian Hill neighborhood with eight steep hair-pin turns. It is surrounded by Russian Hill mansions and perfectly manicured landscaping and flowers. Take a spectacular photograph at the bottom and enjoy a breathtaking view from the top, looking out onto San Francisco Bay, the Bay Bridge and Coit Tower. The switchbacks were built in the 1920s because it was thought that the natural steep grade was too dangerous, that a series of switchbacks would add to the street's scenic appeal and make it safer for pedestrians. Truth be told, Lombard Street may not even be the crookedest street in San Francisco. That title technically belongs to Vermont Street, located between 20th and 22nd Streets in Potrero Hill. But it's too late to change history.

An ingenious idea to reduce the slopes of an uphill road through a special zig zag which has now become half of the tourists who indulge in photos with a view of the bay. Pleasant!

Driving down this famous "crooked street" was so much fun that we did it twice. The first time we took pictures. My wife said that she was so busy taking photos that she barely noticed the drive. So, I suggested, Let's do it again with no photos". And that's just what we did. On the second pass we both just enjoyed the experience. Great fun!

Have your camera ready before you arrive at the entrance, it's straight down and crooked and you don't want to miss a moment of the excitement

A must if you (or a friend) is driving this is a must do. Where else could you drive at 5 miles an hour and feel like you are speeding?

Wayne Tech seems a bit pretentious in his reviews. His review of the Legion of Honor Art Museum was so off the mark!
Best museum west of The Louvre!
Go on Saturday when they fire up the organ!
Wayne open your eyes, live in the moment, and breathe deep...

If you are visiting San Francisco you should definitely visit Lombard Street. This winding street so singular and flowery.

For me, this is a horrible attraction. We parked our car, and we went to take some pictures, when we came back within five minutes, someone had smashed our car, and stolen everything inside.

The crookedest street in the world , Lombard Street is a famous landmark of San Francisco. Every day thousands of visitors have fun in walking down/ driving down on the eight sharp hair pin bends of this road.
In fact, it is one way (east -west ) steep one block street with 8 hair pin turns.
The street looks beautiful from bottom due to beautiful flowering plantation along it’s U -turns.
We enjoyed walking down / admiring the beauty of this unique street . There are steps for walking down / climbing up along the street.
Unique place for people looking for adventure !

flower are too tall so u cant really see the street. but the walk from downhill to ghirardelli complex its downhill and nice view! worth it!

Drive downhill on the "crookedest" street. We wondered about the residents who live along this stretch. They have creative solutions for parking their cars.

Definitely worth experiencing if you are in San Francisco but not the #5 thing to do in San Francisco. Great photo spot. One way street accessed when traveling north off of Hyde Street. Left turn restriction if traveling southbound. Drive or walk down the street. The top can also be reached off the Powell and Hyde Cable Car and you can walk down a short way before turning around.

There are a lot of people that walk to the street, so you have to be very careful not only of the curves but also your fellow tourists. We were in a line of about fifteen cars, so didn’t wait a long time for our turn. The view is AMAZING. I would recommend going over if you get a chance while in San Francisco.

This is obviously the world's most zigzag road and it's been famous for it, for a long time. If you have the opportunity to come to San Francisco, you cannot ignore this attractive tourist destination. You will find it extremely interesting with the lines of cars running zigzag from the top down the slope, and interspersed with beautiful flower beds. And yet, you also feel the steep streets, a very characteristic point of San Francisco. Great experiences.

My brother in law was the only one willing to attempt this drive, and even though it only lasts @ 2 1/2 minutes, it is one of the craziest drives in a city of crazy drives! It is literally switchback upon switchback down one of the steepest hills in town. What makes it crazier is that flowers line the street, and crowds of people are walking up and down while you are driving. At the bottom, the previous driver or passengers pop out of their car for some quick snapshots up the street, but because of the flowers obscuring the contours of the street it just looks like a field of flowers in the middle of a street. Suffice to say this is an experience you need to just DO. No video or photo will do it justice. Beware of the lines as well. We had about a 7-10 car wait, but it moves fast, and you can swing around the block and go again if you enjoyed the ride!

Night tour up San Francisco after getting on Cable car. We climbed the famous street. A unique sight to see the cars get off and the views of San Francisco

The length of the street is very short. there are several things to visit in San Francisco before this street.
Take the cable bus to get there. This will complement the experience in the sector.

Gorgeous street! We loved the hydrangeas, and make sure to check out the bougainvillea on the blue house!

It's San Francisco's most famous winding street showcases eight sharp switchbacks and stretches down a steep slope from the Presidio East to The Embarcadero. Super steep street with lots of plants & flowers blooming along the way and older buildings all the way down. Worth the descend/climb just to see the cars head down from the top!
From the top you get great views, walking down through this windy road you can see the lovely houses and gorgeous foliage. At the bottom well you get to look up this quirky street. Great for photos but it can get always busy. It was really busy with people everywhere. Both sides are lined with private residences so be mindful of this as they go in and out of their drives!
The view of San Francisco from above is still worth it.

An architectural curiosity, a road curiosity.
the interest is to go down this street and contemplate the sweep of cars once at the bottom

Who doesn't remember Herbie the crazy beetle walking this road. Not to be missed stop to spend half an hour for photos in various poses

Although creepy while in the dark, climbing up and seeing the beautiful sunset was something you could not oversee. Even though it was a lot of work and effort to get up the swirly road, it was worth all of the strength.

Super steep street with lots of plants along the way and older buildings all the way up. Worth the climb just to see the cars head down from the top!

Took a walk over to the Street. We got there quite early so it wasn't so busy. It looked just like the movies and was an interesting walk.
Worth taking the time to walk down the hill or up if you feel fit enough.
Gardens looked a bit tired because of the previous hot weather

We approached this, walking from Fishermans Wharf which meant that we had a very steep downhill journey. It’s incredible that cars can manage the gradient (they can only go one way - down) and the winding bends. While it’s definitely easier walking down than up, it’s still good exercise and requires careful stepping.

Very picturesque, to see!
I was surprised, I didn't think it was so green...
Lots of cars drive through it.
You can not miss the ritual photo from below and the view of the coit tower from above.

Incredibly iconic street, an incredible setting.
It is the steepest road in the world and I find the solution found brilliant, it is mandatory to travel it on foot, with comfortable shoes and a good level of training :)

Lombard Street is one of San Francisco's attractions, famous for its eight hairpin bends and steep slope, located in the Russian Hill neighborhood. It was built in 1922 to make the climb safer for vehicles. You can drive, or walk down to admire the city and the bay from above.

Guys, it's just a crooked street and nothing more. A product of excellent marketing. Beleive me, it can be missed

The street is quite busy and there are always a bunch of people so walking slowly and peacefully is not an option. The flowers look great when in bloom and the view from the top is nice. Not recommended by car.

Iconic but there really isn’t anything to look at or do there… can easily skip and not miss much. I can only feel sorry for the people that live there…

It was ok to see this crazy little street. You can't really see that much of it from the bottom but I know I would not like to drive down it.

We went to see it because it’s iconic, but it wasn’t that exciting. It was pretty crowded and you couldn’t see much of it due to the bushes, but it’s still worth checking out when in town.

Terrible , unsafe plase , don't recomendet at all Criminals broke my car window , just a 2 minutes after i parket parket , 75 feet away , in the midle of day whith full of turist . Polise say thay cant do anithing , no cameras , no security in the duty . . In jeneral , San Fransico not safe at all , very disapointet in city .

We loved going down this street on foot, so legendary... flowery and very winding and once at the bottom (we were a group) getting in line to take photos while blocking the exit from the road, accompanied by smiles from the very drivers. patient and friendly. It didn't last long but the Americans were great to us, no horns, no dirty words, just the opposite. A beautiful memory !

One of my favorite destinations in San Francisco. Prior to Today ( Friday, 11/19/21), I always walked down 30+ times from the side walks. Going down on the right and come back up on the right. Lombard St & Garden is a 1 way 8 hairpin turns from Hyde going down to Leavenworth. Today I manage to walk down to famous Lombard St, but do be carful. There are cars, van, SUV and yellow GO car coming down. At each hairpin turn, you can turn out to the sidewalk. During week day, it’s not as busy. The view you get on the side, is the Coit Tower, majestically sits in the other side. Lombard is located on Russian hills. During Gold Rush, there is a small cemetery near the top buried Russians.
The Lombard St is also famous for it’s garden, full of Hydrangea flower. And it’s beautiful houses sling side. It’s really pretty with with amazing views.
When I reach the bottom (the last 1 or 2 hairpins near the bottom), I saw all the Hydrangea flower has been cut; yet the cut flowers are left there (not sure if done by purpose or it is due to vandalism). The good news is that Hydrangea flower is a perennial plant which will regrow next spring,
You can take the Powell Hyde Line Cable car to get here. Or you can drive, ride GO Car, or walk here (however the hills to get here are pretty steep, you can walk backwards or side ways to lessen the stress in your knees. It’s all worth it. Lombard St and Garden is rated 1 of the top destinations to see in San Francisco.

We spent a lovely summer day exploring San Francisco, mostly on-foot. And of course that meant a trip to famous Lombard Street!
It’s a beautiful street, with pretty houses and especially beautiful landscaping. We took many photos of the bold pink flowers.
The twisty street itself is tons of fun, and the scene of the cars slowly making their way down its twisting curves as people watched was fun.
I recommend combining your visit to Lombard Street with a walk around the other streets in the neighborhood; it’s a lovely part of San Francisco that offers great views of the bay. Bring your walking shoes!

Popular landmark to take visitors from out of town. We went on a Sunday afternoon, and hit a lot of traffic getting to Lombard Street and then getting to the Bay Bridge to go home. But it was still fun driving down this historic landmark.

This is a very beautiful section of street with steps on a sidewalk. It is quite strenuous to walk this up hill most people may want to start from the top where there are great views.

No visit to San Francisco would be complete without visiting Lombard Street, just to see people trying to drive along its winding road without crashing.

We drove down Lombard Street on our visit to San Francisco. It is sometimes known as the crookedest street because it winds downhill in almost switchback fashion. The homes in the area are charming and the street is unusual. It is worth a visit if you can drive there. There are a lot of tourists who walk it and you have to watch for pedestrians. I am not sure if I would feel comfortable walking it because of the mix of cars and pedestrians.

Join the throng walking up and down admiring the views. The houses and gardens are pretty - I hope everyone treats them with respect as it must be hard for the owners having streams of visitors walking by your front door all the time. Unlike most of the other steep streets, walking via the steps gives you a chance to take a breath and admire the view.

A very unusual street to drive down but beautifully landscaped & to take it very slowly driving & walking down the street.

When you're driving in San Francisco, you have to drive up and down this street, which I did. Slowly, taking in the sights. Very interesting.

The alledged crookedest street in the world. One way traffic downhilled with great view of Coit Tower in front of you. Tons of tourists-some walking down the road so you need to be very careful. Glad I don't live on the street-trying to get in and out of your garage must be almost impossible. Beautiful gardening at every turn. Major photo opportunity
Just know one thing- most natives know it isn't even the crookedest street in San Francisco. Vermont Street is and there are no tourists there.

I had the chance to visit this famous street while on a city tour! The street was not very busy when we visited but our tour guide did tell us that it can get busy from time to time. Super cool to check this off the bucket list of things to do when visiting the city for the first time.

If you are near or in Fishermans Wharf it is worth the hike to see this crazy twisting road.
Unusualy for the US it is also free to walk up and has a decent sidewalk (pavement) with steps.
Just be prepared for a few steep roads!

Spend fifteen minutes walking up and/or down this iconic and unique street. A San Francisco visit without Lombard Street is an incomplete visit

This is not something that will take all that long but is worth a quick visit plan for 15-30 minutes. I would recommend taking the blue line cable car, but it was broke the day we were there so we walked up to the top in the evening and the view was spectacular. A must see while in SFO because it is so Iconic

From Market place, we walked up Russian hill to the famous Lombard Street, which is the most winding street in San Francisco.
We learned that it was Carl Henry, who designed this zigzag area of Lombard street, in order to limit the slope of the street to 27%, as it was too steep for the horses and vehicles can climb it !!!
We were amazed to see cars driving down this beautiful one way street, lined with stunning flower beds with its 8 unique hairpin bends!!! It was spectacular and unique !!!
In addition, from Lombard street, we had a breathtaking panoramic view of the San Francisco bay.
I highly recommend to visit Lombard street!!!
Nice street
Beautiful street a lot of people recommend getting from above go down and walk to littoral italy is nothing otherworldly but worth seeing it does not take long not all tours touch that area only reach by Uber kyomo or cable car
