We enjoyed a very scenic drive up to the mountain and once we got to the top! Luckily, we arrived at Buffalo Bill's grave when someone was doing a free talk about the history behind his final resting place. It was very informative! We also visited the museum next door and there were many artifacts and a lot of information present. There is a small restaurant on the premises where we got drinks and there is a gift shop.

As a history buff I wanted tosee the sights Denver has to offer. was no tdissapointed. From the abandoned gold and silver mines, to the famous people who once lived here there's history galore!

The view is indeed breathtaking, you ned to see this for yourself!

This was the first place I took by daughters to see as my sister had a wedding to go to. This is a beautiful area with lots of awesome scenery.

We drove up the winding mountain side road. It had beautiful scenic views. It was an excellent way to see a whole range below.

You can drive up the mountain and it is free, with a park at the top and gorgeous views of Golden and Denver. Buffalo Bill's grave is at the top and that part is free to see, but there is admission to get into the adjoining museum (which was closed when we got there). The drive wasn't too scary but there were some people on bikes that made us nervous since there wasn't much room to pass them while there was oncoming traffic. It only took us maybe a half hour each way to drive up and down and I think we spent about an hour at the top. There was also a really big gift shop with bathrooms and a cafe at the top.

It was just a short drive from downtown Golden which was nice. We went early in the morning to enjoy the view and then walked up to Buffalo Bill's Grave which is a short walk from the parking lot. You don't spend a lot of time at either but it was really enjoyable to see. Gift shop had some of the best/unique items that we found in Colorado.

By Christian Soehring |

Don't miss Buffalo Bill's grave and the nice view from the area and the (large) gift shop. Parking is a bit limited

By RSchottel |

Very curvy, beautiful drive. The view of Golden when reaching the top is wonderful. I would definitely recommend this drive.

By Mark E |

You are already pretty high up from the drive, so you can get some nice views without that much hiking. We went in winter, so it wasn't too hot. I prefer quiet hikes and their were some groups just having a good time (with their loud shouting and music blasting).

By Rachel W |

Exploring Lookout Mountain is rewarding. It has great trails, great biking routes, and some fun surprises along the way: the Buffalo Lookout nearby, the Buffalo Bill museum, and the beautiful wildlife all around. It's also only about 10 minutes outside of downtown Golden.

By Dustin W |

My dad recommended Lookout Mountain to me since he use to live in Golden and I'm glad that I came to check it out. The views all around were stunning and breath taking, especially being able to see everything as far as downtown Denver. Definitely worth looking out and seeing far and wide all around you.

Beautiful drive up a narrow winding road. Beautiful views from the top of the mountain. Visited Buffalo Bill Cody's grave site. Amazing that they carried his casket all the way up to the top of that mountain; don't know how they did it. Go there and you will wonder yourself. There is a snack shop at the top of the mountain and a museum but we didn't visit either one - but they are there for those who are interested. Worth a visit.

We drove up here on our last day in Golden, it was a beautiful day and got gorgeous views. Plenty of areas to pull off on the side of the road and get pictures or just sight see. Wish we could have done the complete lariat loop but time wasn't on our side. Would definitely go here again.

By Duan Fetrell |

My wife and I planned this for our send day activity. Boy were we in for a treat. We had about four niches of fresh snow to fall the night before, so everything appeared fresh and untouched. We captured some beautiful photos and breathtaking views.

By PDDunstan |

If you are in the area, definitely drive the 10 minutes up to the top of the mountain. Follow the ‘Buffalo Bill Museum & Grave’ signs.
From the viewing area you get a fantastic panoramic view. You can see the Rockies, the Denver skyline and the flat plains that go on for miles. Fantastic on a clear sunny day.

By 891travelling891 |

This is a nice stop. Amazing views, has a nice gift shop/food and to see where "Buffalo Bill" was laid to rest. Very peaceful.

By Maddy Bonin |

Lookout Mountain is pretty amazing. Only a few miles off the interstate it makes it an easy stop to feel like you are in Colorado and the mountains without getting in too deep. We love to stop here on our trips to Denver to feel like we got the whole Colorado experience. Cute gift shop next to the museum. The museum costs to go in but it's free to go look at the grave. The only thing is to be careful if you start a hike from here. The trail that starts here is kinda confusing and not very well marked. Be aware and maybe grab a map and definitely some water before you start.

By froglag |

We happened across this route traveling in the Golden area. We didn't have time to do much hiking around but put it in our bucket list of places to revisit with lots more time. Golden was such a cute town with lots of interesting shops and places to eat.

By Kelsey W |

Snow was super deep, glad we had snow boots. It was peaceful and quiet. It was a very short hike to the overlook from the parking lot. A steep and dangerous drive but go slow and it is so worth it. You feel like you are in the edge in top of the world.

By smmartin |

Just amazing view from here. Buffalo Bill Cody museum quite interesting. Had lunch and food was delicious. Try the fudge

By alvinmena |

There is a lovely secret & mysteri inside these mountains. The wild views, animals and quality of air made this place unique. Perfect to visit during fall. Get a good picture there!

By BER0416 |

One of the many area locations to head for scenic hiking trails and views of Denver, Golden, and the surrounding area.

By Rosemary W |

We enjoyed driving here. The road between the mountain and Golden has a lot of twists and turns, although it's not the scariest mountain road I've ever traveled. There are several hiking trails. The view of the surrounding area is great.

By Peter A Morrell |

What a great idea to take a drive up the mountain to Lookout Mountain Park. During a trip to Golden, Colorado earlier this year I had a rare afternoon off and decided to check it out. Besides the amazing views, you'll find Buffalo Bills' Grave and Museum, the Pashaka Gift Shop, trails and yes the views. The 'Lookout' itself has a large area where you can see Denver and Golden and on a clear day, you can see miles and miles out to the surrounding areas and mountains. Be careful driving up the mountain and as I saw a couple of wrecks and abandoned cars along the way. The morning was overcast so many parts of the mountain round were still covered in ice, from the sides of the mountain that didn't get any sun in the morning. It was winter and the weather can change at any time like any other snow-covered mountain. Take your time driving the road. There is a couple of pull-offs on the road up to Lookout Mountain if you have to stop.

As you get closer to the parking area, there are signs to clearly identify where you are and where to park. The same parking lot for the 'Lookout' is the same parking lot for Buffalo Bill's Grave, the Museum, the gift shop and the Lookout area. In the winter most of the trails are covered in snow and not accessible, I did see a few people coming from the trails. You will also see several TV and radio towers nearby.

Luckily it was a clear day, and sunny when I arrived. I checked out all the sites and walked the perimeter of the lookout and spent a good amount of time there looking at the surrounding area. It is serene and picturesque so bring a good camera, if you have one. With everything to do up there even on a wintery day, you could spend a few hours up there. The Lookout Mountain is a great way to spend an afternoon. If you're ever in Golden put this on your list of things to do, you will not be disappointed.

By Alicia M |

Stopped here before going to Buffalo Bills. Pretty area. Walking trails there. We went a little way in easy to walk on.

By MTB-Illinois |

I had very little time to explore the area; but made the drive to Lookout Mountain. It was a beautiful drive. I enjoyed the scenery along the way and the view from the top. I'm not sure if the museum to see Buffalo Bill's grave was open (due to COVID), but the area is still a place to visit.

By Amanda |

Really nice views from the top of the mountain here, great place to see Denver from afar. Worth a stop in the museum, grave, and giftshop while you're here!

By Beth H |

This place has an amazing view!!! Would recommend to anyone, it is worth the trip. My only advice, unless you are a thrill seeker, I would go the long way around to get there.

By Naturextreme |

The trails and views from Lookout mountain are really great. More short and simple trails for beginners. The Visitor Center doesn't contain a lot, but does have quality items to look at. They also have an observation area you can sit and use some nice binoculars they supply to look at some of the wild life. I also suggest bringing a pair if you have them since there are a lot of opportunities around to use them. The Visitors Center Front desk was very knowledgeable on the wildlife in the area, and I had an amazing conversation about the snake species and habits in the area (snake lover here). I love getting stories from people! I would also suggest going to the Buffalo Bills Gift shop and getting some Buffalo burgers. Very neat stuff inside and the Burger was amazing.

By Sondra W |

Amazing view of Golden and the Denver Metro Area. At night you can see the lights of colfax, which I think is the longest avenue in America. Such a beautiful sight.

By nhpm900 |

We went to lookout Mountain this past Thursday. Unfortunately we were too late to visit Buffalo Bill's grave, but the view from up there was truly breathtaking, and I say that having been in a constant state of awe for the previous few days at the incredible landscapes of Colorado. Never in my life have I seen such beauty.
Unfortunately, some inconsiderate moron had let their dog conduct some business without cleaning it up, and left it there stinking in the hot sun. People really suck sometimes.

By ItalianStallion76 |

We simply loved just standing there gazing at the gorgeous view. One of the many beautiful places in these United State of America.

By Christoph R |

Nice view towards Rockies and Denver. Really interesting. I was there with Gray Line and found myself well taken care

By michael p |

This is a close by drive if you don't want to deal with 285 or 70 to get your hike on and be in the foothills away from the city for some good exercise and take in some CO nature. We took the dogs here and it's an 8 miles out and back easy to moderate trail. We did see lots of mountain bikers coming from both directions so be aware of that as you will need to step off the trail as it's slightly wider than single track, so not room for everyone. Views are ok - not great. I'd suggest Devils Head for something also not too far or do Staunton in Conifer. We're really spoiled in CO with so much beauty here, so rating would be higher for most other places in US.

By MikeM22rugger |

This place had some great views and some awesome looking trails. Unfortunately we were a little under prepared for any hiking but, we definitely want to give them a go next time

By McKimi |

We drove the Lariat Loop route from Colorado Scenic Drives, finding this convenient at end of our first day in Denver. The traffic up Lookout Road after 4p wasn’t too bad on a weekday, but this time of day did not give us much opportunity to explore the view at Buffalo Bill’s grave, as that business closes the gate (in and out) at 6pm.
We enjoyed the quiet and massive geology of Red Rocks. Use Entrance 1 to get close to amphitheater. Definitely recommend getting out and climbing the stairs to the stage and seating. Little town of Monument would have been nice to explore, but rain and time of day got in our way.

By cons18 |

Even no the cloudy day we were there it was a good use of time and views were good for a place so close to Denver

By Puddler2014 |

The view was amazing. There are a few stops along the way to see and tour. Loved our time in Golden.

By Rich7357 |

If you have an hour or two and the weather is clear take the ride up lookout. Great views looking in various directions. Numerous pull outs and large parking lot at the Buffalo Bill Museum.

By Xoel |

The views are stunning, offering sweeping panoramas of the Denver skyline, the Rocky Mountains, and even further on clear days. It’s a great spot for hiking, picnicking, or just taking in the scenery. The drive up is scenic and easy, with well-maintained roads. There’s also the Buffalo Bill Museum nearby, which adds a fun historical touch to the experience. Perfect for a quick escape into nature without going too far from the city.

By Nancy B |

We walked the area and took in breathtaking sights. If anyone who is interested in photography, go to Golden's Lookout Mountain and snap away--every angle is photogenically eye candy!

By maxl |

And take the winding road that was finished shortly after the turn of the century. Just think how hard they had to work to build that road. You can access it from either side, the Golden side or the Exit 256 side off of I70. Either way you will see many struggling cyclists training for their next adventure. BEWARE-Cyclists have the right of way! If you are lucky you may also be able to watch some paragliders jumping into thin air! Also, there are pull offs and hiking trails. Great views of Golden and Denver. On good days you can see to the Flatirons near Boulder.

By Deborah D |

It's really beautiful up here. Watch out for bicyclelers because there is a lot on this road. The park is beautiful and well maintained.

By Don D |

Quick and easy to get to. Easy drive to the top with great views east and west. On a clear day it’s a great vantage point to take some pictures of Denver and the continental divide.

By colorado4ever |

The views here are spectacular! And it's a windy but quick drive from downtown Golden - I highly recommend it!

By Bonnie B |

It took a long time driving up there, but the views were great! It was very slushy getting the edge, so we looked at the description signs instead. It's quite high in elevation - with lots of twists and turns. The Buffalo Bill Museum looked closed - unfortunately. I'd suggest stopping your vehicle at one of the "turn-outs" - the vistas were beautiful.

By 362kevin |

The views are spectacular and we encourage everyone to visit. However we respectfully request that you pay attention to private property and stay on Lookout Mountain Road during your visit. The only public pull-out spots for taking in the view are located on Lookout Mountain Road, all other pullouts are privately owned.

By dpres368 |

Did a quick trip up the mountain during a business trip to Denver. It was within a 1/2 hour drive from the city and the drive was nice and pretty views of the mountains. The views were breathtaking and there are plenty of areas to take sit and enjoy the view and take some beautiful pictures. Plenty of people were walking the trails around the area as well. We even got to see a group of Elk that were grazing on the side of the road.

By bbg130 |

The mountain overlooks Golden. It's beautiful and there are two Mesas along with the mountains. Also, at Lookout is Buffalo Bill's grave and museum. The museum is a trove of information about this great showman and costs only $5 and starts with a short movie about him and his entertainment shows.
There is a gift shop of course, with a small cafe too.

By KARIN D |

Drive to Golden and take the exit to Lookout Mountain from here (watch for bike riders...they are everywhere!), then out the other way to I-70 to come back into Denver. The views are different every time I visit--and I have visited it many times over the years. All seasons have a different scenic view. My favorite is fall when you see all the city trees changing colors. Sometimes, on a clear day--you can see DIA.

By Jeff S |

A must see in the Denver area. See four states! Wow! On the Lariat Loop! Lots to see! Glad we came! Take time to see it all.

By YearsofTravel4Fun |

We attempted to get to Lookout Mountain twice from Golden. However, due to a hiking injury and a car accident, the road was blocked off by the authorities. We hope everyone was okay and doing well, however, we wish we could have continued on our journey. They did say we could drive around and enter Lookout Mountain via 70. We did not.

By TrailTrekker15 |

My wife and I drove up to Lookout Mountain while exploring the western side of Denver. The drive up the mountain was easy and beautiful. There was a little bit of snow in mid-November but the temperatures were still pleasant. The vistas over the town of Golden and Denver were amazing! The contrast between the flatlands and the mountains is extremely obvious from this vantage point. I’d highly recommend this park!

By James B |

A short drive from Golden is this vista point where you can see on one side, the entire town of Golden and on the other, the Rocky Mountains. Nothing spectacular (compared to so many other options in the area) but nice reward for the short drive. Take 19th street west in Golden into Lariat Loop drive, which is a twisty road going up the hill. Look for Buffalo Bill Museum, their parking lot has the best views. If you want to avoid the twisty road (often crowded with bikers at times) you can take 19th street to US6, go down to I-70 West and exit 256 onto US 40 West, then take the back side of Lariat Loop road up the hill.

By Tasneem D |

Nice hiking, drive and amazing views. Da definite must see and time to explore this are if you are visiting. We saw walkers and runners on this 10 mile trail despite below freezing temps and weather conditions

By Sandy S |

Handsome nature center, with good views, plus Buffalo Bill grave and museum – didn’t visit but walked around.

By Lauren Butterfield |

We went on a sunset hike on a Friday evening and the trail was super crowded but gorgeous! Be on the lookout for plenty of mountain bikers. The trail has plenty of switchbacks and great for any skill level of a hiker.

By anaconda21 |

It was fun driving up the mountain with all the switchbacks. No major hiking involved to see some great sites.

By Virginia59 |

It's a windy road and my wife was nervous as anything as we ascended the mountain but once we stopped and did a bit of short hiking, she was fine. It's well worth the drive up!!

By mhumbert2018 |

Driving to this high altitude and very scenic area will take you breath away! The snowy mountain peaks are spectacular and awe inspiring!!

By Amy G |

Awesome views and areas to look around bike or hike. Saw deer but no elk. Overlooks golden and Denver with breathtaking views.

By PG A |

Do not miss this mountain for sunset while in the Golden area. Park where it says sunset park, our GPS took us a little past and we hand to U-turn on the narrow two lane road. Rocky terrain to the mountain edge for a view you won't soon forget!!

By timoc11 |

We went here on a very foggy and snowy day so we couldn't see any kind of view. I would still recommend it if you are in Golden. A cool gift shop with a great dog who lives there.

By Chitown_Kelly81 |

Beautiful views and a decent drive. Definitely worth the trip up! We will be back one day with our kids!

By Abi H |

Thoroughly enjoyed hiking some of the trails with our young kids (toddler and baby). The weather was perfect and our two year old got to touch some snow. (An experience for her since we hardly get snow in southern OK.)

By Erika F |

We wanted to see the sunset on our roadtrip. We took our pup out with us to the lookout point and hiked a bit. Dog friendly. Steep curves along the way up. Watch for bikers (bicycles). Beautiful views of Denver on one side and the mountains with the sun setting on the other. Easy to get to.

By Joe Z |

Take the ride up. Worth it for the view and Buffalo Bills grave is up there too. There is a museum but it was closed the day we were there.

By AndyKansasCity |

Great view of Denver and the surrounding area on a clear day. The road up the mountain is steep and winding. Watch out for walkers, runners, bicyclists, and wildlife.

By Travelta123 |

A mountain overlook point near Denver. Offers excellent views of Golden, Denver and the surrounding mountains.
Be mindful of bikers sharing the road when driving up and back down.

By Granddad Green Go |

If you want to experience a true "Rocky Mountain high" (i.e., over 7,000 feet), this is the place to do it. From here, on a clear day, you can literally see for miles, all the way to downtown Denver and beyond. Also Buffalo Bill's grave and museum are here! Free parking. Here's a tip: If driving up or down the side of a tall mountain makes you nervous, take the road on the south side of the mountain, which goes up through a residential area. You'll hardly know you are ascending a mountain. The road on the north side, which twists and winds as it follows the contour of the mountain is a little more nerve-wracking, especially for flat-landers like me, although the locals seem not to mind. Just make sure your brakes are in good order heading out!

By papabearkrb |

There is no part of CO that I do not love and recommend. Was there long, long ago. Super sophisticated city (Denver) minutes away from essentially the old west, the mountains, and the vast plains.

By Lara / ProsperityPassenger |

The love of my life took me up to Lookout Mountain the very first night we met. It was magical. Amazing view as you look out across all the lights of Denver and surrounding areas. It was a magical night, meeting the love of my life, and sharing our first kiss at the top of LookOut Mountain. We go back on special occasions just to reminisce and re-live a cherished memory.

By BarbaraMD59 |

While visiting Golden in September, 2019, my husband and I drove to the top of Lookout Mountain. The drive up is somewhat exciting and beautiful and the view at the top is very spectacular.

By JeniB |

We could see Golden CO where were were staying as well as the Denver skyline and incredible view of the 13K foot mountains to the west.
Gorgeous views driving up the mountain too~

By Christine B |

We were told about this by the lounge concierge at the Hyatt and it was worth the drive from Denver. Awesome views back to Denver and Golden itself.

By Marcia W |

Nice drive and beautiful views. We went as part of the lariat loop drive and went to the top. We saw deer, eagles, and lots of wildflowers as we drove and hiked. Recommend.

By slhokie |

Even though we had some Canadian wildfire smoke, the view was still good. The adjacent Buffalo BIll museum is quirky but enjoyable. My wife got so interested she asked for book recommendations about his life.

By bookbuy_7 |

Lookout mountain is a fun place to go. We did not do the hike we just drove up and admired the views. They were breathtaking.

By Blake P |

This is a peaceful place and you can hike it out drive all over it. Either way the views are spectacular

By scottnrobyn |

I would go back there in a heartbeat just for the views alone !!! And the cafe has pretty good food also. I took about 100 pics up there and I've looked through them a dozen times, and none of them captures what it really looked like in person. It's amazing!!!

By Megan S |

This is an easy drive with beautiful views at the top. The gift shop is amazing. So many fun things to look at or purchase. The food is very good too, we had the chili and a burger and both were delicious. I could have spent more time in the gift shop, there are so many cool things. Didn't look at Buffalo Bill's grave, but I read the signs about him and they were very interesting. There is also a buffalo sighting spot right near there, an overlook where you can see them hanging out or eating.

By RozzyW |

We visited on a clear day and could see the Rocky Mountains as well as downtown Denver and beyond. We also stopped at Buffalo Bill’s grave. Beautiful!

By Michelle S |

Pretty easy drive. We actually drove from Golden around interstate 70 and up, rather than lookout mountain road. It was a pretty view. Lots of parking.

By aztraveler62 |

We went on a Sunday and there was plenty of parking. There is a lookout point with a railing, but I feel that there are easier places to drive to with better views. There is a small cafe/store there which seemed to draw a crowd. If you can’t go anywhere else, then you might as well go. I would ask around to see which other places might fit your schedule.

By Rupert1A |

Brought visitors here many times. Great mountain view of the continental divide, Buffalo Bills gravesite, museum(excellent and only a few dollars) and Buffalo Bill store trading post. Can be windy at times…paragliders are fun to watch. Lots of bicyclers climbing and descending, they love love love it. There’s a Colorado nature center that is great too.

By Jeff K |

We went up as part of a tour, and am glad we weren't driving. Lots of bicyclists make their ways to the top, and back down. I'm not sure I could handle the curves as well as the cyclists. Once you're at the top, there's Buffalo Bill's gravesite, an old gift shop, and lots of great views all around.

By Jill |

Great little stop on route to destination.
We did not hike trails but did walk over to see Buffalo Bills grave nicely displayed.

By gardwin |

A wonderful stop with wonderful views, especially the one with distant downtown Denver in the backdrop. If you're up for a pleasant drive along the Lariat Loop Road don't forget to check out the views of Lookout Mt.

By Kaitlyn S |

Great area to hike around, beautiful views and bathroom access. There are trails to follow and maps to follow. Great for nature lovers.

By Peggy L |

The drive up to Lookout Mountain was fun and we saw mule deers on the way. It's a great scenic drive.

By Nikko C |

Lookout Mountain is a great asset to the Golden area, providing a beautiful overlook to both Denver and Golden. Excellent for both day and night visits.

By LakeTimes |

The trip up from Golden was great for me. My wife wasn’t too happy with the tight switchbacks and many bike riders. The top is worth it if you like a good view.

By TCC Texas |

Made a quick trip here during our college tour to Mines after recommendations from students and locals. It was a beautiful way to overlook the campus/town and reflect on the visit. It was a short 15 minute drive from campus. Didn’t go in the Museum but can stop by Buffalo Bills grave free of charge.

By alexanderbryce1978 |

Beautiful view of the city and town of Golden Colorado. The smoke from the train museum and the smoke from the coors brewery ruins it a bit but its amazing. Get out there and drive or walk up. It's something you won't forget.

By Jonathan B |

Hiked from the Buffalo Bill trail to Lookout Mtn Trail to Windy Saddle & back with our 9-year old. Total for us was about 2.5 miles. The trail is well marked, and provided more shade than I’ve come to expect in the foothills of Colorado.

By types4u |

This is a must see! It was a cloudy/rainy day while we were visiting Lookout Mountain and it was still BEAUTIFUL. The majestic view is awesome. We did not mind getting rained on to see this view.

By Zenblaster |

We went on a Monday when the main building was closed. Across from the gate was the best view we found without having to walk any trail. Don’t let small kids run free as it could be an issue. Nice spot for pictures.

By Ken H |

Great views, some accessible trails, plus the Buffalo Bill Museum. The Museum is only $5/person entrance fee and very interesting.

By GoingPlacesWanderlust |

This drive has pull off to look out. Has great views - however the day before we did Mt Evans and so this wasn't as spectacular but if you don't get to go up a 14teener then this gives you great views. Just at a lower level.

By MikeThePilgrim |

After eating in Golden, my brother-in-law and I headed up Lookout Mountain on our motorcycles and really enjoyed it! The road has lots of nice twists and turns, but you do need to watch out for cyclists all along the route. At various points there are excellent views in all directions - recommended!!

By Nancy H |

Snow topped mountain view was so perfect it looked like a painting.
Crazy drive up the mountain but much better coming from the "back" via I-70. The gift store and museum needs some influx of cash to upgrade and spiff up. As time moves on, so many younger people have no interest unless there are digital movies and more.
Fascinating piece of history.

By CrazyDad |

Lookout mountain is well worth your time if visiting the Denver area. It will give you a great idea of the expense and majesty of the mountains if you can’t take the time to go farther into the mountains themselves. Hiking trails are available. Wild Bill’s graveside is also at this location. At the lookout itself, there is only a small rustic bathroom.

By Eileen B |

Beautiful views! Walking and hiking trails
Beautiful Nature and Beautiful scenes
Enjoyed very much, first visit to Colorado

By tscheblo |

This drive doesn't take too long and there are good photo opportunities. Enjoyed having our photo snapped looking down at Golden with Coors Brewery over my shoulder. (Now I won't forget which town I was looking at.) Be sure to visit the visitor center/museum since there is a lot of inventory. My friend was excited to purchase an awesome looking book about Buffalo Bill. We did walk up to see the gravesite of Buffalo Bill, but I was under whelmed. This visit was more about the views for me. I do recommend visiting for the awesome views!

By Edi |

Not for the faint of heart if narrow, very curvy roads bother you. Suck it up and go --- incredible and worth the trip.

By milehighjedi |

Very lovely and has great sightseeing. Amazing Can’t believe I didn’t see it before today. Fortunate enough to moved within 45 minute drive from door to the top so I am stoked I’ll be able to take a nice cleansing relaxing ride up here as long as the weather holds up. And that’s the great part about weather being pretty good!

By Donald E |

We always take our family/friends who visit here ! You have great view looking east towards Denver . Then you walk west across parking lot to view Rocky Mountains looking west . Nice gift/souvenir shop with food/drinks & restrooms.

By ANR_78 |

My wife and I drove up to the viewing area while driving through Golden and had a pretty good time. The drive was easy enough but we shared the road with a ton of cyclists. Not that it was much of a big deal as they are going pretty fast downhill but we had to pass quite a few on the way up. Either way, the viewing area was cool enough we felt it was worth the drive. I wouldn’t go back again but I’m glad we went once.

By 3882Di |

It is an easy drive up to Lookout Mountain and the views are quite pretty. We took a short, couple hours, hike on a beautiful day. The trail went up and down hills was fairly easy and not too crowded. The views were wonderful! Welcome Center is also here.

By Camille Farr |

Lookout mountain had some beautiful views of Denver, and a great little shop that had a vegetable soup the day we visited and it was so unexpected and amazing! Perfect for after a winter stroll on the mountain. Fudge there was great too with a cute gift shop. Definitely would go back :)

By Victoria N |

The views from the mountain are beautiful. The best viewpoint is from up at the top of the Buffalo Bill Museum.

By Dianne S |

Great view all around. Drive up the mountain a bit scary with all the winding curves. Buffalo Bill's grave sight at the top.

By Eric V |

Two ways up to the top. The road starting at 19th and 6th in Golden is much more exciting and a better drive. Great views and the graves of Buffalo Bill Cody and his wife at the top.

By cohappyfeet |

If you happen to have some time, this is a beautiful drive. On one side, you look out over the Colorado School of Mines and surrounding neighborhoods. On the other is a classic Colorado scene. This would be an easy way for someone who is not able to walk much to experience the mountains of Colorado. There is no charge.

By dunn2002 |

While visiting with family I enjoyed a solo drive to the top of Lookout Mountain. Great hiking trails at the top, wish I had more time to hike the area. Great road and amazing scenery!

By MrsBDean |

A nice little stop! They have a beautiful trails, scenic sights, and right by the nature center. Family friendly trail.

By luvlifeandtravel |

Wonderful drive up to the top and lots of spots where you can pull over and take photos. Take your camera, plan on visiting Buffalo Bill’s gravesite, lookout point, museum, and gift shop! Get a little hiking in while at the top on the nicely maintained trails!

By Ana |

I visited Lookout Mtn with my boyfriend at the very end of Oct 2019, right after the big blizzard and although we couldn't do any hiking or anything, just the views were absolutely amazing. We stopped at the first area and then we drove up a bit further to where the bigger parking lot is and it's definetly worth the drive. I can't wait to be back when it's not snowing so that we can Hike the trails.

By Will L |

Beautiful drive up Lookout Mtn with places along the road to pull off for pictures. At the top we enjoyed the museum history and gravesite of Buffalo Bill. Extremely interesting to history buffs.

By Sandra C |

Lookout mountain is a must to people visiting this beautiful state. You can enjoy the scenery of the famous mountains and take beautiful pictures

By TravelingFam |

You can do this in less than an hour if you really wanted. But we took 2. Probably 15 min up the mountain (the one with a big M on it!) neat views you can do from the car. Must get out to see buffalo bill grave
Museum $5 adults $1 kids
Gift shop at top
Take a jacket
Women's restrooms at top (buffalo bills) were down the stairs. Not handicap friendly.

By Marlanea C |

We did a packed lunch at the discovery center. Saw some wildlife and went over to the lookout point and it was pretty views. Be careful though because it is slippery and they don't have rails there.

By Telissa A |

Just average drive there is no view anymore because of all the trees and the houses thst have been build

By AggieAshley |

We drove up the mountain (a first for me) and truly enjoyed the scenery. There were a few deer on the way back down. The views from the top were the best. You could see for miles. I could have sat up there all day just staring out from the mountain.

By Chad C |

Lookout Mt. is a nice drive or biking(if that's what your there for). The views of Golden once at the top are fantastic. Also at the top is Wild Bill's grave and museum. The museum is well worth the price of admission. If you do not like curvy roads but still want to go to the top of the mountain, just use the back entrance. It is a lot easier of a drive and much quicker to the top.

By SJS |

Ventured to the top to experience the views and elevation change and to learn more of the history of Lookout Mountain. Lots of bikers, long boarders, runners, mule deer and the views do not disappoint. Ascend and descend gradually to avoid issues with altitude change. Highly recommend!

By LynaeKenen |

I nice scenic drive to get to the top of Lookout Mountain, and when you are there, there are great views both of the mountains and out over Denver.

By Diane M |

Stopped on way up to Buffalo Bills museum. Great drive. Great views. Even if don't have a ton of time you can drive up and see it all within an hour. not like investing 1/2 day with
MT Evans.
Def worth the stop!

By Jeff I |

We drove around Lookout Mountain. The drive is great. Beautiful views, winding roads going up one side and down the other. We stopped at one of the many spots and took pictures.

By 8ric |

Take the short drive from downtown Golden and catch some fantastic views - They do not call it Lookout Mountain for nothing. You get almost 360 degree panoramic views and on a clear day I would not pass this free attraction up!

By aliciaburge |

We drove through the area as we went to Buffalo Bill’s grace. It was beautiful drive and everyone loved it, even the kids.

By Rita A |

Stopped here on a trek through the Rocky Mountains. Gorgeous view of the snowcaps and the valley below. Just meander and look at the surrounding country side!

By mafischl |

My family and I were looking to get up into the Mountains from Denver. Unfortunately the weather in Rocky Mountain National Park was not supposed to be good, so we went to Golden instead. The view from Lookout Mountain is absolutely beautiful. They say you can see four states on a clear day, but you can't. Kansas is too far away. Wyoming and Nebraska are in range if it isn't cloudy. The Buffalo Bill museum is worth doing as well.

By Dennis S |

Great place for a nice trail walk. Went up from a lookout parking spot up to main park where Buffalo Bill grave is took about 1 hour for round trip.

By s2mei |

The actual top of Lookout Mt, where the views are spectacular, draws mixed emotions. If you are afraid of heights, driving on steep, open , mountain roads, this could be a problem. We were holding our breath all the way up. The views were spectacular, but the thought of having to drive back down, dampened the excitement. Fortunately we were told by the staff of the Buffalo Bill Museum that there is another way down. So, if you don't like heights, travel up to the top using the road from Rt 70, not Rt 6.

By enncle |

my partner and I visited while looking at buffalo bills grave, but after visiting the attraction we wandered for a good half hour looking at the fantastic breath taking views from this place. this was one of my favourite places to take in the view in Colorado, whilst on the road trip. colorado has fantastic landscape , and after visiting most of the usa, its one of my most favourite places. just stunningly beautiful.

By ALahaye |

We rode around the Lariat Loop which is pretty easy to get too. We were here about December 15th and drove the loop a few times just looking around. We stopped off at a few of the little areas on the side with parking to take pictures and the wind was crazy. We hiked up part of it for about an hour and then drove back around to the buffalo bill area but since the wind was so bad we didn't stay long. It's definitely worth the drive just seeing the mountain and the road is pretty good and easy to drive on unlike some mountain roads.

By Eclectic Emissary |

Driving up the switchbacks is a pretty cool experience, and the view at the top is even better. Great vantage point to reflect on.

By William McC |

This site, at an elevation of over 7,300 feet, affords sumptuous views in almost every direction. Understandably utilized as a lookout by the Utes, it is also renowned as the gravesite of Buffalo Bill Cody, who had seen a lot of the world and wisely settled on this singular site as his permanent resting place. There are a number of user-friendly trails nearby. With the Denver skyline in one direction and the Rockies and its foothills in others, it would hard to choose a wrong time of day to visit, but sunrise is especially recommended, as its animating rays can effect electrifying change on the land and tree-scape.

By jatready2go |

Great hike steep on the way up and a good workout. Beautiful views and lovely forest on the upper half.

By Samantha G. |

The views from Lookout Mountain are amazing! Worth the drive to the top. You get a great view of the mountains and can also see Golden and even downtown Denver on a clear day. Our driver on the Coors tour recommended it and I'm glad we listened! We didn't get there early enough to visit the Buffalo Bill Museum/Gravesite but it was still worth the trip just for the views.

By Becky B |

We went up after dark, and wound our way from I-70, over the mountain to the other side, and found several spots to view the city lights. It was amazing. Take a nice camera, comfortable shoes and plan on an hour or two total, travel and all, unless you choose to make it a day trip, and take a picnic or hike. It was cold and dark in December, so dress warm and bring a flashlight. We drove down into Golden to get back.

By mike50401 |

Go up here and have lunch. Either bring your own or go the the little shop and get a burger. The view is amazing and one of the best i have seen in this area.

By TJC80401 |

The Lariat Trail from Golden is part o the Lariat Loop scenic loop, and takes you up a winding road to the area where Buffalo Bill's Grave is located, along with other Denver Mountain Parks. A scenic overlook used in the early 19th century and before to spot game and as a mystical place for the native tribes in the area including Ute, Cheyenne and others who frequented the Rockies.
View east are outstanding, but not recommended at night.

By Dennis L |

I live on lookout mountain, and in the summertime you see lots of happy families, bicyclists, and motorcyclists enjoying our cooler temperatures and stunning east and west views. you can hike the many trails, see Buffalo Bill's grave and museum, and visit a throwback Americana curio shop and snackbar. Please keep to the speed limit-- blind corners and bicycles everywhere!

By rockinrobyn672 |

We rode our bikes from downtown Denver starting at the Tourin Bicycle Shop, through downtown Golden, and up to the top. It was amazing and totally fun coming down. We also enjoyed stopping by Buffalo Bill's grave at the top of the mountain.

By Emily L |

Exciting drive on our first day in Colorado after spending a little time in Golden. Amazing views, a lot different than what we see in Florida! If you have an extra hour or so, take the time.

By gottcoke |

Drove up from Golden to go see Buffalo Bill grave. Since his grave is on lookout mountain we had to go up there. Was a nice drive and had fun running bicycles off the road. Just kidding on that but there is a lot of people going up or down

By Gregory F |

Must go here, the views are breath taking...Loved it. great views while you drive up and Down, Go on a clear sunny day..you can see forever..Greg F

By garbagecollector |

We were there for the first time, and this spot was a hit. We came up from Buffalo Overlook to see Wild Bill Cody's grave and see the view. Both were really neat to see. The signs around his grave tell the story of how he ended up there. The view of Golden, CO is wonderful, as is the view of the Continental Divide -- if you drive Colorow Rd nearby.

By Mindy W |

We got rained out of hiking up St. Mary’s Glacier so ended up here in Golden on an impromptu change-of-plans excursion. We hiked several miles on a couple of the trails. Make sure to go to the main Lookout area near a welcome center. If I lived in Golden I would hike up this regularly. Saw dozens of cyclists climbing the road to the top as well. My husband and I are cyclists and would love to come back to take on the challenge of riding up this mountain.

By Todd L |

You have great views of Golden and also Denver downtown off in the distance. It is a short and easy drive to Boulder. I enjoyed the Buffalo Bill Museum too, as I love history of the American West.

By Fernando P |

I love taking this drive when needing time to unwind. Plenty of hiking trails and you can stop for coffee at the top. Excellent views.

By AngelineRae |

We hiked from the Windy Saddle trailhead to the Lookout Mountain nature center (about 2 1/2 miles round trip). It was so beautiful and mildly challenging for novice hikers. My 9 year old was able to complete the hike with minimal complaints. Kids can earn a junior ranger badge at the nature center! Highly recommend for a nice retreat from Denver.

By RARCO-RRodgersWrites |

When you're near Denver, be sure to head straight west, following the route of the gold prospectors, to Golden, CO, and Lookout Mountain. The scenery is one-of-a-kind! Take time to hike or to visit the Boettcher Mansion, Genessee Park, the Buffalo Lookout, Buffalo Bill's Grave & Museum, Colo. School of Mines, and more while you're out there!

By Jenny F |

Breath taking expansive view of the mountains and cities below. A person can see for miles when viewing from this location. Worth the drive to reach this look out.

By Mary V |

My husband and I had recently returned from North Platte NE where we had toured Buffalo Bill's home so, after arriving in Denver, we wanted to see his grave site and "close the circle." Lookout Mountain is a beautiful, easily accessible by car site and, even though it was a weekend, not overrun by people. We were able to leisurely pay our respects at his grave, tour the gift shop and go inside the museum. Because it had an admission fee, and we had just come from his place in Nebraska, we opted not to go through it this time - perhaps next time. Smoke from CA fires prevented being able to see as far as usual from the mountain, but it was still a beautiful view of Denver and the closer mountains. Very nice place!

By MN-FIRE |

Awesome drive and view. Loved it, would recommend, worth the drive. Great great great great view and restrooms hall way up

By Grazer-Florida |

Amazing and inspiring. My hats off to the cyclist, runners, hikers, and climbers. I am also jealous that you all get to enjoy this creation. I will definitely make an effort to come back.

By Reita J |

It’s a majestic view. We even saw a herd of buffalo on our way up to the top. If you like great views, you will want to visit lookout mountain.

By Scubagirl999 |

Omg what a ride! Seems like every time I went to drive up a hairpin curve there was another car. Who needs a theme park when you have this road! We drove it up from Golden to get to the Buffalo Bill museum and gravesite (highly recommend). If you are in Golden with a car, take a half hour to drive up and down this road!

By KCMLive |

My nephew took me to Lookout mountain during my visit to Denver. The views were amazing. There was a couple taking engagement photos, a teen taking graduation photos, and a car company photographing an ad all the in the same gorgeous afternoon! I even did some "fiking" (fake hiking) venturing a few steps down the mountain to get the awesome views in my pics. It was a great experience and it was FREE!

By Bartonbears |

We travelled here as part of a small tour group. We found the views of Golden and Denver from the top lookout spoiled by powerlines and antennae but Buffalo Bill's grave was interesting and the other views from the mountain were quite impressive. The trip down toward Golden was interesting with its views of hairpin curves below us and of Golden with its huge brewery and overhanging cliffs. We enjoyed Red Rocks Amphitheatre more but this was an interesting addition.

By hiddengemseekers |

I booked a group tour through Viator, and good thing I did because our tour guide was a local and knew all the hidden gems and shortcuts to avoid tourist traffic. He took us to Lookout Mountain at dusk and I was amazed at the view! so many stars! I would upload photos but it wouldn't do them justice. If you're into astronomy, this place should definitely be on your list of places to go will in Denver or Golden, or just passing though!

By Jessica S |

The ride up and back is just as amazing as the views from the top. The winding road is fun to drive on and there are several places you can pull off on the side of the road to take pictures. Buffalo Bill's gravesite is interesting. You can a better look at everything in the valley on the way down so have your camera ready!

By KrisMat |

Great cycle ride up the mountain rewarded with views at the top and an easy ride down. Not particularly interested in buffalo bills grave at the top but there's usually plenty of people there but not too busy. Cafe was ok. Be careful if following Google maps to get back down. If you're heading back down towards the Golden area, only use the main road (lookout mountain road). The residential roads (park view and others) all end up as dead ends although Google maps doesn't seem to know about this.

By 86MissyJ |

Stopped by here to check out the view. Absolutely amazing! From looking at the snow top mountains to the overlook of Golden this is a neat stop off I-70.

By Christina B |

We were driving up from Manitou Springs & made a stop here. Great views & enjoyed taking in Buffalo Bills Museum & Grave. Very informative! Peaceful area !! Enjoyed our time here.

By DJBratcher |

Decided to drive up while traveling on vacation and stopped at Buffalo Bill Museum and grave site. Interesting if you are history buffs like we are. Good mountain view for picture taking.

By sccrref |

4 of us came up to visit the Buffalo Bill museum and did a short hike. Time constraints prevented us from walking longer and that's regrettable. Beautiful views all around. If you are out of towners as we were its definitely worth a visit

By Lisa W |

It's a beautiful view no matter where you are, and there are lots of trails to explore. We didn't stay long due to rain, but we managed to walk around a little and saw the grave of Buffalo Bill.

By Mark S |

We had a beautiful clear day to visit lookout mountain. It was interesting being able to see the surrounding area and Golden so well. There was adequate parking and viewing areas.

By BBDY |

We drove up onside of the mountain on 'normal' roads and went town the other side on the switchback road. Neat. The views from the top will depend on how clear a day you choose to visit, but can be quite good. While there, visit the Buffalo Bill grave site and museum.

By stlxer |

Nice drive, not sure if any other way to get up the mountain, if there is -still take Lariat Loop Road. Great views of Golden, The Coors, Brewery and Denver. At top of the mountain is Buffalo Bills grave. Good Denver view, good view of the Continental Divide. Come down the back side on 6 and your near Idaho Springs, take 5 South and your on top of Mt. Evans and the long haired sheep of you want to make a day out of it.

By Gretchen B |

you will love Lookout Mountain; linked to Buffalo Bill's grave and nice tourist shop. Nearby tourist/trail center and nature center with lots of stuff for kids

By Tami J |

My husband & I drove the scenic loop up to Lookout Mountain and stopped at a few scenic sites for photos and some generally awe inspiring views!!! Gorgeous! But not for the faint of heart of driving up twisting mountain roads isn’t your thing.

By Mike K |

Well, it's called lookout mountain, and look out is something you can definitely do. Gorgeous views of the surrounding area and downtown Denver. Nice drive up the mountain to see it.

By S N Kane |

It was packed with cyclists on a nice Easter weekend. I believe it is a drive many cyclists travel to to accomplish the feat of climbing it. You might want to drive or cycle it on a weekday.
The view and the varied scenery are worth the slow drive.

By LeanneinVan |

Harrowing drive up but worth the views. Be aware of ascending and descending cyclists. Go up the Golden side then down the back side to take in the very different environments.

By fast14u |

Stopped by Lookout Mountain to see the Buffalo. Definitely worth the stop! awesome seeing these beautiful animals

By Heyyai |

It’s worth the drive! We woke up early and saw the sunrise from Lookout Mountain. Drive carefully and take a jacket cause it gets chilly up there.

By ryanls82 |

One of the best views in Colorado. Easy to get to and when you get there, you are treated to some remarkable views.

By Eric S |

The view of Denver, golden, and surrounding areas from the top of Lookout Mountain is very impressive. Lariat Loop Road is also worth the drive in of itself. If you're anywhere close I would highly recommend taking the time to drive up.

By Renee B |

The drive to the top of Lookout Mountain was an experience in itself with the winding roads. Kudos to the cyclists we passed pedaling up the moutain. No matter how many mountain views you have seen, they never get old, as each view has its own special meaning. Worth the drive!

By dras52 |

Five friends on a tour of Lookout Mountain. We drove up, careful to avoid bikers, hikers and runners. We did not hike, but that would have been fun. The view was beautiful and we continued up to a small town with fun restaurants and beautiful homes. Fun afternoon, before we went to Red Rocks!

By PnP On The Road |

Incredible views of surrounding mountains and valleys, including Golden and Denver beyond. Plus a nice nature area and the Buffalo Bill Museum which is worthy of a visit, especially if you’re interested in that part of US history.

By Dianne W |

It takes about 15 minutes to travel to the top from Golden below. Many travel on foot or bike so be very careful of both. The view on a clear day is amazing as well as Buffalo Bill's museum.

By williamkH7880FD |

Beautiful drive and view up on top the mountain, easy drive, fast way to take in some mountains. Traffic kind of busy on Sunday afternoon.

By Sheila C |

We stopped for a short visit before heading to our rafting trip. The staff at the visitors center were helpful. Perfect weather for hiking. The drive back down into Golden was very exciting but not for the faint at heart as many switch back turns along the way.

By Shana J |

Views were amazing.....museum was not as exciting as I wanted it to be. The drive up is a little sketchy, but overall it was the short drive from Golden.

By Linda C |

Unfortunately, the Nature Center was closed due to restricted hours. The mansion was very interesting. Very nice meadow walk- a herd of elk ran past us while out in the meadow! Root beer floats were yummy at store by Buffalo Bill's gravesite (but no one wearing masks in store).

By Heatgerl |

The drive to Lookout Mountain is beautiful. The park is very nice with plenty of picnic tables as well as a picnic shelter. The views are beautiful and well worth the short drive from Denver.

By Brian W |

Really liked the views and easy to get to the top, highly recommend! 360 vies of Golden and the surrounding mountains.

By Mark M |

It was as pretty cool to see the history of Buffalo Bill. It’s an easy drive and a great view of Golden. Takes about an hour total.

By Dave B |

You can't avoid Lookout Mountain. Take an hour and drive up to where the remains of Wild Bill Hickcock is burried. I mean I think Wild Bill may have one time tried to talk Billy The Kid into laying down the guns and getting an education. (Billy would have lived past 21 years. Anyway, Wild Bill H. sure did try to share the way of the cowboy keeping the image and life style long alive in the minds and hearts of wouldbe cowboys. Did you know Wild Bill was a member of the Mason's? When you are up high enjoying the clean mtn air look over the look out deck and you will see the Coor's factory way down in Golden. Great view! If you let your imagination soar you may even feel the wind of Wild Bill as he gallops off into the distant mountains.

By LewisB78 |

It is a great place to go to take your better half on a date, I have been up here many many times. The view is out of this world and is worth the 30 minute drive from Denver to view. Buffalo Bill's Grave is located here also

By olsonae |

If you are in the area, definitely drive the 10 minutes up to the top of the mountain. It was an incredible view-almost 360 degrees around. You can see the Rockies, the Denver skyline and watch the sun setting through the valley. Buffalo Bill is buried at the top as well.

By lynfrh |

The first thing that catches you by surprise is the fresh air and wonderful mountain views. Beginning in September you can see the turning of the leaves from green to yellow, red, and orange. Often, at the base of Lookout Mountain, is the buffalo herd grazing behind an enclosure just minutes from the I-70 exit. Looking West from Lookout Mountain you can see the snow capped mountains just above the 8,000 foot marker. Spectacular experience!

By cacmp4 |

We drove part way then took the hiking trails to the top. It was challenging for sure but great exercise and beautiful views. Very peaceful!

By Brian G |

Famous and popular place to go hiking, Buffalo Bill wanted to be buried here for a reason! Plan to visit his museum and grave ($5 per person) and then do some hiking!

By Fishrwmn |

We are still on East coast time so we were up on top of the mountain around 730am, no one was around and it was gorgeous!!

By Chris H |

My friend and I had some time to kill so we drove up and back. There are many good views and we saw a couple mule deer. If you have the time go to Mnt Evans, it’s a similar and a much better experience.

By REBORN IDENTITY |

I have yet to be disappointed when I bring some friends and food up to Lookout Mountain to enjoy a good view. The drive down to Golden is a great way to end your day after enjoying sunset and the ocean of city lights across the Front Range.

By Sentimental Nomad |

Awesome views! Drive all the way up! Beautiful lookouts. Good for those with babies & small children because you can see tons on the drive & at overlooks... without having to hike a ton. 360 views! Short drive.

By Marla M |

Gorgeous views - amazing wedding at the Mansion that is located on it. My niece had her wedding at the mansion that is adjacent to the park. It is stunning and close to town.

By TAMAN1951 |

Lots of nice views but Colorado is loaded with them so this one is not that special.

The Buffalo Bill grave is kinda of a cool attraction in the area especially for history buffs.

Worth a short detour if in the area.

By Clare S |

The drive up the mountain is a bit steep but views are well worth the drive! It’s just outside of Golden Colorado and has multiple look out points and an overall beautiful drive!!

By Tim O |

Nice drive up Lariat Loop road. Great views of the urban areas. If you go over to the area just west of the viewpoint parking lot there are some mountain views.

By DavidJ99989 |

Easy and short drive up to about 7000 feet. Great views from the top of Golden, you can see downtown Denver, and on the other side at the peak you can see Cascades range. Worth the 20 minutes it will take to get up and down an easy to drive road.

By bcspoon |

We were in town for a basketball tournament and we drove up to Lookout Mountain. It was a short trip and the views were amazing. The added bonus was getting to scare my daughter with the turns and the small road as we dodged the cyclists.

By gregoryk512 |

Beautiful views of the east, north and west of Denver. No charge for this attraction, be careful of your footing, s a slip could be a long fall!

By Badgers1980 |

The views to the East are quite breathtaking from the viewing deck at Lookout mountain. While here make the walk up the trail to view Buffalo Bill's gravesite and take in the gift shop.

By Linda R |

Lookout Mountain provides a panoramic view of the foothills and near Rockies. It's gorgeous and unfortunately populated by loud 2-stroke bikes that alter its otherwise quiet beauty. Still, it's worth a quiet drive up and down the road--especially to take in a sunset or sunrise.

By montanapescado |

The drive up lookout mountain is nice, and true to it's name, the views up top are very good. Once up top, you have the option of visiting a couple of places, the Buffalo Bill museum and the Boettcher mansion.

By David C |

This is a complete & whole experience that includes the beautiful scenery above & looking down onto the valley as well as the museums, Buffalo Bill Cody Memorial, & shops of course.

By 555gayr |

Golden has much to offer for a wonderful long-weekend, especially if you aren't a skier. There are great hiking trails at Lookout Mountain and it's a really quick drive from the airport.

By Rose B |

This was so close to where we were staying in Golden. So easy to get to. The drive up was amazing and a bit scary but beautiful. Great views from the top. Some really nice trail heads although we didn't walk them. It was cool to see Buffalo Bill's grave. A bit of a warning though. Do not park in an undesignated area. You will get a ticket like we did.

By KatrinaPa |

We parked in the lot of the Buffalo Bill Museum (which was surprisingly busy on a Sunday morning) so that we could take some photos of the mountains. When we arrived (about 10:00 am) it was so foggy that we really just saw whiteness all around. We walked to Bill's grave (also suprisingly popular), which was a lovely walk and by the time we returned to the parking lot, the fog had mostly lifted and we were able to get some lovely photos. So this plan worked very well for us. Many people were there with bikes and hiking equipment so this is also a good location for more strenuous outdoor activities.

By Amy L |

We enjoyed the drive up and back to Lookout Mountain (be sure to take Lookout Mountain Road (aka Lariat Loop Road) at least one way - it's a really pretty drive. The gravesite and lookout area felt very touristy, but we hiked over to the nature center and back which let us get away from the people a bit and was a relatively easy hike. Trail markings were confusing, but we figured it out. We also hiked the Meadow Loop Trail at the Nature Center which had the nicest view of Denver - otherwise pretty boring.

By EaglesFan27 |

We spent an afternoon on Lookout Mountain. The drive up is very scenic and we stopped at multiple lookout points. Watch for bikers especially early in the day. We stopped at the Buffalo Bill Museum at the top which is worth seeing. Also, check out the nature center which has maps and guides for the park and surrounding parks. There are lots of hiking trails at the top which will connect to other back country trails. The views are amazing as well!

By Adam E |

The views were amazing. It had snowed the day before so the mountains in the distance were beautiful! It’s a small hike but nothing major and nothing that is not normal.

By Joseph J |

Easy trip to see nice views of surrounding area. Many places to pull off and take pictures. Road was easy to navigate but be careful as there are lots of bikers on road.

By Patriklise |

Like a post card, even though this was the dry season the views were magnificent, with trails to hike and nature to see. Would recommend

By 108Lincoln108 |

Lookout Mountain offers some of the best views in the Denver/Golden area!

The view from the top is incredible and not something I get to experience often living back east.

Highly recommend if you're in the area.

Hint - The Buffalo Bill Cody Museum and Grave on Lookout Mountain is well worth an hour or two of your time. Very well done.

By Steve G |

Loved the drive to the top of the mountain, the views of Golden and Denver were super, would do this again

By gagsnel |

Lookout Mountain is definitely worth a visit when in Denver for only a short time, great views in every direction and in particular views of Golden and Denver in the distance.

By taxwiz1040 |

Lookout mountain has great views of Golden and the continental divide as well as hiking trails for all abilities. Boetcher Mansion is cool to see too and they have a great Nature Center

By Deb K |

A beautiful scenic drive! Gorgeous day and definitely worth taking the drive! Next time I would make time in our schedule to hike trails in this area.

By Brian F |

Lookout mountain far exceeds its name with spectacular views that were some of the best I had while visiting Colorado. Lariat Loop takes you up there from Golden and is full of plenty of switchbacks and curves (not to mention plenty of deer grazing right off the road so be on the lookout!). There's a picnic table on a short path to the right just after parking with a pretty decent view, but I highly suggest either the slightly awkward climb straight ahead from where you park (steep and not a big distance from a long fall if you're not careful) and/or the path off to the left. Both spots have breathtaking views!

By bainc2016 |

Finally reached the parking lot, and the drive up was full of sites along the way. Wildlife was abundant. The sites at the top were absolutely astounding. The weather was perfect, so all sites were visible. Highly recommended for the outdoor enthusiast and photographer.

By Ashley W |

This was a quiet spot without large crowds that was so beautiful! Great mountain views. Weather in September was perfect.

By Becky D |

A fun afternoon with my hubby. There was plenty of light hiking and an interesting and somewhat hokey museum. Neat to be possibly near Buffalo Bill's grave. Mostly though, the views and the drive were the highlights.

By Dwayne A |

We love going up here to find a place to park, and just enjoy the view of Denver. Lookout Mountain has been a favorite of mine since I was a child.

By Sheri P |

Wow what a powerful drive up the mountain to a magnificent view! It is a short trip and view of the whole city. It’s funny we were downtown Golden and wanted a picture of the Coors plant but you couldn’t even see the sign there but at the top of the mountain you could see the whole plant and sign.

By Trips-n-Guac |

Lookout Mountain is a nice place to go if you don't have too much time to explore the mountains. In same area where Buffalo Bill's museum is you can see some of the closer mountains and also the plains. If the day if sunny and clear you can use the tower viewers installed there to see the whole region of Denver (downtown and even the airport). Boettcher Mansion (built in 1917) is also on the top of the mountain and is a beautiful place to visit.

By Orla B |

Stunning views - a total must see if in the Denver area. I really enjoyed the driver and the lookout.

By NewillDB |

Excellent and worth the winding drive up. OR if you are really in shape - hike it! Do watch for the bikers on the roads.

By Deborah M |

Spectacular views from above, at the Buffalo Bill grave and museum. The drive down towards Golden was beautiful, but not for those with a weak stomach, as there are no guard rails on the roads, and several cyclists (when I drove it) in front and in back while descending.

You can’t beat the scenery and the views.
We saw lots of wildlife on the way up the mountain, including elk and bison.

Great place to visit when it’s warmer.

Very scenic location, Beautiful photo opportunities and well defined hiking trails. All in the fam loved it.

By Caroline L |

I could see for miles! Lookout Mountain did not disappoint. The drive was crazy up and back down the mountain. I can't believe cyclists ride this! Enjoyed the scenery and the experience of being above the clouds. Very enjoyable time if you love the outdoors.

Great Views from Lookout Mountain, plus Buffalo Bill is buried up top. There is a museum, small cafe and gift shop there. It was a nice stop.

By Murff dawg |

It was really beautiful, plus the buffalo bill gave is there too great place for a family or friends trip lot's of photo opportunities, there's a little store there with good old fashion fudge and all kinds of cool things

Going up Lookout Mountain is a few hours of fun. The views are amazing. I came up from the Golden side and it is steep with lots of switchbacks and several places to pull over for beautiful views and pictures. The other side, I-70 is less "crooked" and an easier drive if you have a larger vehicle. However, the Golden side is a super fun small two lane adventure. A great detour on your way to or from Boulder off Highway 93.

Excellent hiking, picnicking spot.
Also fu. Just to drive to the top. There is lots to do and see along the way. Recommended for single travelers or families and friends. Just a great place to experience the outdoors. While I was there, it was warm, not hot. The cool air made it a perfect atmosphere for outdoor activity.

When we were traveling east toward the Denver airport, we had enough time to drive up to Lookout Mountain. The views were awesome! We could see the Denver skyline as well as Golden and the surrounding mountains. Although there was Buffalo Bill museum there, we did not have time to visit it.

By Stephen F |

we stopped by and did a quick walk around the park area. Great views of Denver and looking east. Worth the trip!

By MKB1701 |

An incredible view. Well manicured grounds, ample parking and a breathtaking look at the mountains and surrounding area merit a visit, whether you're in Golden or out for the day in the Denver metro area. Recommended.

By RSpan2017 |

We were unable to drive all the way to the top due to sunset, but even the views at the lower areas were great. Worth a drive.

By scRollTide |

Easy drive that's a short trip from Denver. The Buffalo Bill museum is a great quick and informative family friendly stop at the top of the park. The view is absolutely astounding!

By Mike |

The views from the top of this mountain are so breathtaking. My wife and daughter and never been to the mountains so they were very well pleased.

By GoingPlacesWanderlust |

Scenic view traveling from Golden. Never get tired of all the breathtaking views Colorado has to offer. Overlooks Denver which is neat to see!

By barbaragwen270 |

When in the area do drive up Lookout Mountain. It's a lovely ride and what you see once you get there is amazing. Take along a picnic lunch and eat that at the top.

By RVIDI |

My wife and I took a detour off of I-70 to see Lookout Mountain. WOW! It was worth the extra 15 minutes detour. The view is nothing less than spectacular. The Rockies are set out right before your eyes. Walk to another part of the parking lot and view the Plains and the city of Denver. I can see why Buffalo Bill wanted to be buried here.

BTW, Buffalo Bill is buried here. There is a museum, which we did not go through.

Even the ride to and from Lookout Mountain is fun. Well, I found it fun. My wife kept her eyes closed most of the way up.

I am not normally the guy who takes detours when I am driving. I just want to get where we are going. I am glad my wife suggested this stop. You will enjoy it, too.

Family rode up to lookout mountain to get a few pictures. My daughter had just finished a Joffrey ballet intensive in Denver and we wanted some pretty shots in her pointe shoes. The views did not disappoint. We would have stayed for hours but it was getting late and didn't want to drive back down the mountain after dark as the road down is very curvy. Hope you enjoy !

By CB6699 |

This is a great spot to have views to the east towards Denver and westward towards the other parts of the Rockies range. The drive up from Golden is pretty, curvy and a little steep. However we found that you can also get to the top from Ted Rocks and is a much shorter less curvy drive. Also Buffalo Bill’s grave site is at the top along with a cute little gift shop and restaurant.

By JEHworld |

I very peaceful place for Buffalo Bill Cody to rest. Beautiful views with a nice museum, gift shop and cafe. Very friendly staff.

By debit86 |

If in the area of Golden Colorado it is well worth your time to travel up to the grave of Buffalo Bill and stand at the top of Lookout Mountain. The scenic drive offers a view that can't be beaten. Be sure to take in Buffalo Bill's museum while you are there as well.

By Bajones |

Beautiful view like all of Colorado. Great and gorgeous state! I love Colorado and will be returning!

By 1seethecityseethezoo1 |

I drove up here to see the sunrise over Denver in the middle of December. The park did not open until five minutes before sunrise so I was rushing to try to capture it. Personally I wouldn’t do a repeat drive all the way up from Denver that early in the morning to see the sunrise from this vantage point. The sun does not rise directly over the city. It was mediocre. The color of the mountains however was absolutely beautiful. If you choose to drive up here in the winter, bring lots of layers because it was only 20°. (It was 40° in the city at the time)

By Barry G |

It's hard not to like this place. There is plenty of free parking, plus a kitschy gift shop and museum, "homemade" fudge in a variety of flavors (about $5 per quarter pound), average burgers and fries (that will run you about $8.50)...and Buffalo Bill's grave.

The air is fresh (you're at 8,000 feet) and the view out over the Rockies is spectacular.

By avery1907 |

Took a solo hike and it was beautiful and peaceful. The views were excellent. For quick hike or just something to do... Perfect option here...

By debbiebernardo |

The drive up Lookout Mountain road was quite interesting with lots of twists and turns. Lots of bicyclists riding up and down a narrow road, but it was worth the drive. The views are spectacular in every direction. The Buffalo Bill Museum was very interesting and had stuff for kids to do. You can also visit Buffalo Bill's gravesite. There are awesome views of Denver and the Plains as well as the mountains to the west. Great trip for a sunny afternoon. An hour or so is all you need unless you want to have lunch at the gift shop. There are also hiking trails all along the route!

By Cindy H. |

This was more our fault than anything.

We went at night, during a foggy night, because a friend of ours suggested we come here to the Lookout Mountain.

Well, we couldn't see anything due to the fog.

By Beth F |

Great view. Easy access. Good Bill Hickock museum. Wish they still had the trolley ride to the top instead of a drive. But the grew is outstanding

By Celeste B |

Great stop for a short hike. We parked at the nature center to kill some time before the buffalo bill museum opened. Nice lookout point across the street to take pictures, and a short loop trail behind the nature center. Bathrooms weren’t open yet, so maybe stop before you go if you plan on getting here early.

By Janet130764 |

Fun drive. Easy and close to Golden. Lovely views. Buffalo Bill grave and museum up at the top makes it even more interesting

By Hilla B |

Worth the time to drive up and over Lookout Mountain to get a great view of the valley, Golden and the two Table Mountains. And while driving over Lookout Mountain stopping at Buffalo Bill's Museum and grave is a must.

By theiting |

When visiting Golden, we took a drive up Lookout Mountain just to see the fall color, the views, and nature. It did not disappoint to say the least. The views were breath-taking, and the drive up was relaxed. We were amazed at the number of cyclists making the trek both up and down as well. We saw some wildlife, mostly deer, and even walked a couple of trails.

By Tanya B |

This lookout is a beautiful view of the mountains, Golden and surrounding area. Very easy to access and is a pretty short side stop if you want to get a great view but don’t have a lot of time.

By Jason_W_in_Indiana |

Our family chose to come here because it was not far from our hotel in Evergreen and there was no charge to visit. The nature center was closed for renovations, but that was fine since we were only there to hike the available trails and take in the views. There was about 1.5 miles of easy hiking through woods and meadow at the property of the center, but a far more steep trail and amazing views of the mountains as well as the city of Golden and beyond were available across the street from the center.

By PlumberGreg |

Great views of downtown Denver and Golden Colorado. I also enjoyed the Buffalo Bill museum and grave site. it's an easy drive and well worth the trip up here.

By Michelle H |

My husband and I wanted to do a small side trip while visiting Denver. We didn't have much time so we decided to take the short drive to the Lookout Mountain area. The views are gorgeous and there is plenty of space to take pictures. We also did a short hike to Buffalo Bill's gravesite. Highly recommended.

Great day! Was about 63 degrees and beautiful out. There was snow and still very comfortable. Nice place to walk and explore. Bring water for drinking.

By Xxxxxxxv |

We ate our lunch here. It is a beautiful view . There were trails all over the mountain . There is a water refill station for hikers . It was very busy.

By Tuxtails |

We stopped on our way back to Denver and the view was awesome! You can see out over the city and also through a mountain pass on the other side. Beautiful!

By Seabees0 |

Wonderful views in a few directions. Can see Denver and Golden and Coors brewery. Easy to get to and worth the attempt.

By P4702SRsharonj |

The view is just peaceful and breathtaking.
The SIGN could be more clear. The museum and grave is the SAME entrance as lookout.
The lookout park has a hike to it which is not far but if you are not used to the altitude and are a senior I would not do the short hike.
The museum and gift shop is small but interesting.

By Kathy M |

While the views from the top where Buffalo Bill’s grave was were nice, the poles and cell tower really take away the beauty. It was disappointing. We were quite surprised at the reviews for this area considering how beautiful other areas of Colorado are!!

By R. Jeffrey |

The views were very good. I bet the views are fantastic in the fall when the leaves are at their most colorful.

By STAN49_12 |

We enjoyed our visit to Lookout Mountain and enjoyed hiking around the area, enjoying the views. We stopped as we were on our way to Buffalo Bill's grave and museum.

By Dianna C |

Being able to see the campus of the Colorado School of Mines from the top of the mountain was indeed an added plus

By PiaoLars |

The mountains can be a bit scary to drive on, but take a deep breath, drive slow, bring water (have always found toilets) and it is worth the drive! Amazing views.

By bikeride_allen |

If you want a great view of Denver from up high, this is a great spot for it. I have ridden bike up the mountain and driven with the family. The steep ride up is worth the great view of Denver in the distance as well as Golden in the valley below. We also saw para gliders on this last visit up. And it is such a close visit to Denver it was an easy trip before our afternoon flight out.

By JAW06098 |

The trip up to the top of Lookout Mountain is well worth it. At the top you will find the Buffalo Bill Cody gravesite and museum as well as a large gift shop and restaurant. The museum is excellent. It was an u expected pleasure. They have an extensive collection of items from Cody’s life and shows. Many items were donated by his adopted son, Johnny Baker who also gave the money to build the museum. The ride down from Lookout Mountain into the town of Golden is like an amusement park ride!

By Fastphilad |

This would be one of the highlights of Golden Colorado. Make sure you do it. The ride up it is well worth it in the views are incredible. The grandchildren got a little nervous on the ride up as they were not used to mountain roads. I would highly recommend doing this if you go to Golden. Also there are several hiking trails off of the drive up. We did one of those and it was fun.

By Philip S |

Great views of Denver and surrounding areas. Hiking is available and many people were up there due to pleasant weather. One of my favorite views of Denver. Buffalo Bill’s grace is in vicinity as well.

By turbotrevor |

The views here are great and so is the drive up/down the mountain. If coming up from Denver, I'd recommend trying to loop around on US 6 on the way up or down to drive next to the beautiful Clear Creek.

By KathrynDicke |

Steep drive, and watch out for bikers, but worth the white knuckle drive up. Multiple look out points along the way.

By Sylvia H |

It’s a lovely drive up the mountain. Plenty of parking available. There are telescopes for viewing beautiful Denver and Golden. Buffalo Bills grave is interesting especially if you are new to Colorado. There is a gift shop with plenty of souvenirs. You can enjoy a great lunch in a Western style fast food restaurant as you walk in.

By danhenry11 |

Well worth the drive up, great views deeper into the mountains and great vista of Denver, Golden, and the foothills.

By BigFootMidlands |

We walked to the top on the road and back down on the trail. Road was easier because we didn’t have to avoid the MTN bikers. It’s steep but offers spectacular views of Golden and surroundings.

By Betty Yada |

Driving up Lookout on the face has these hairpin curves that are wonderful. There are several pull out to stop and take pictures of Golden and beyond, even Denver. My family have always liked this drive

By liv |

Beautiful scenery and and amazing place to take pics ! Completely safe for children of all ages and it’s dips as fuk honestly

By Ashley Faye |

Worth visiting. It’s beautiful from every direction! There’s also a cabin store with fudge, drinks, goodies, restrooms.

By Chelsey R |

Interesting museum. Like the history video of the West and how Buffalo Bill became a celebrity. Enjoyable stop towards the Rocky Mountains.

By Cryptic_Tourist |

My friend and I drove up here on a whim to get some mountain views. It was so beautiful and the road is very smooth and easy to navigate. You just need to watch out for the mountain bikers. When you get to the top, it’s a little confusing because the parking lot doesn’t have a “overlook” but if you walk across the street there several viewing areas. There’s a few pull outs along the road too, but not a ton and they’re small. I highly recommend going here!

By Gloria C |

Great spot for pictures and only a short drive from Golden. Great hiking and biking nearby and beautiful sites!

By ksmith870 |

I live on top of Lookout Mtn., for the last 23 years, it very popular for the city views and quick escape from the city.
Please remember that this is also a residential area: locals / kids and lots of people on Bicycles! Pay attention while driving, park the car and get out and walk.
Also please pick up after your dog and yourselves
The park is immediately adjacent to Buffalo Bills grave so you can always find a place to park at this location.

By Lissy0717 |

What a treat for me at the end of a very precarious drive up the mountain. I liked the area Buffalo Bill is buried in - and I like the graves with the stones covering them. I enjoyed hearing about the story of his burial and really loved the views! I don't blame Buffalo Bill for wanting to be buried there. Enjoyed the little store and an ice cream snack, too.
