Must do

By yalibrarian |

We were only in Ogunquit for one night, but our resort, Sparhawk, was right next to the start of Marginal Way. What a wonderful trek! The path is paved with slight hills -- nothing overly taxing and roomy enough for wheelchairs. There are benches every 20 yards or so, and many opportunities to step onto the rocks/sandy beach area (low tide) for photo ops. The entire walk is one giant photo op, though, no need to climb rocks if you don't want to. This was my first stop in Maine, and the rugged ocean view was exactly what I was hoping for. Depending on your pace, it's 30-50 minutes to Perkins Cove. Some quaint stores, the requisite tourist gift shops, and an abundance of restaurants. We found the walk-up stands had the best lobster rolls. Limited benches and picnic tables available, though in late September it was now crowded at all. I believe there is a shuttle back to the main part of town, but the return view on Marginal Way is just as good.

Great walk!

By Amy U |

Great walk by the beach, we loved it! Amazing views of the ocean that change a lot from high tide to low tide.

A lovely walk in an accepting atmosphere.

By Natalie D |

Lovely view, and we lucked out with perfect weather. The flowers all along the way were beautiful. Also nice to be somewhere where I could safely walk with my wife and not be harrassed.

Gorgeous!

By Deborah B |

Beautiful views! Walkways accessible with strollers or wheelchairs. Benches all along the way to rest or just enjoy the views.

A Beautiful Walk On The Marginal Way

By NHWanderlust |

A beautiful walk most any time of year. The Marginal Way is a national treasure and a very popular tourist destination, especially for those who live within an hour's drive. Maine's natural coastal beauty is on full display here and the path is paved allowing easy access to those with or without mobility issues. The section from the Sparhawk Resort (nearest to Footbridge Beach) up to Israel Head Road and the "lighthouse" is easy going. Beyond that it's a bit hilly. Haven't traversed the end from Perkins Cove in a while, so can't speak to that. But if you haven't visited yet, treat yourself soon to the beautiful views!

A Must when in Ogunquit Maine

By Penny R |

When in Ogunquit, absolutely do not miss walking on the Marginal Way. It is a highlight of your Maine experience.

Breathtaking spot to watch the sunrise

By reds0xfans |

Beautiful spot to watch the sunrise. Peaceful and perfect way to start the day.
Fun spot to watch the surfers and paddle boarders.

Beautiful views

By luckyone3 |

A great walk with the most beautiful views of the ocean. We really enjoyed the scenery and the walk. Lots of people walking.

Beautiful Waterfront Trail

By Tom42532 |

Great views of the ocean and rocky shore. It is an easy walk with minimal elevation and all paved. Watch for the seals hunting for dinner offshore.

Beautiful Oceanside walk.

By Robert C |

Marginal Way provides a water view walk along the mostly rocky coast, with an occasional sandy inlet, from center of Ogunquit to scenic Perkins Cove. Scenic houses and landscaping along the way with many photo pops. Path is uneven with many benches along the way to sit, relax, and enjoy the view.

Really nice and relaxing

By TravelerzPA |

It’s really a beautiful area. Take some time and enjoy the views. There are also many benches along the way that you can stop at and take it all in.

Summer staple

By scranton38 |

We stay at the Beachmere every year and I start my day out with a walk on the marginal way. It’s my happy place and I wind up talking about it for weeks when I get home! Don’t wear flip flops and make sure to stay to the right for those running.

Always Wonderful

By k.land |

Marginal way is one of my very favorite places, I have walked it many times whenever I am in Maine. Nice trail and gorgeous views. Generally joggers are out there early in the morning. Strollers and wheelchairs are fine, though there are a couple of steepish parts.

Scenic Cliff Walk, with breathtaking views and flowers

By Patty H |

My first time on the Marginal Way was during our week long stay at York each summer. My Grandmother was Canadian French, Ruth Rosalie Gaudett Heath. She had a sense of style and loved to take pictures. It starts just south of Ogunquit Beach and ends in Perkins Cover... Though I often park at Perkins Cover $4/ hour is a bargin and 2 hours certainly provides time for the walk plus an ice cream at Barnacle Billys.
The Marginal way is between a plethera of elegant hotels with beautiful gardens and the Atlantic Ocean. There is a paved path, but no bikes/roller blades are allowe as it is such a popular destination. You can bring your dog on a leash, and if you want a quieter time, try the sunrise, which is spectacular over the ocean.
The local gardeners keep up the gardens and there is a small replica of a Light House half way thru the walk... great photo op! Much of the path is shadded with trees and there are plenty of memorial benchs that invite you to sit and rest and enjoy the view as the early jogger go by. Sunsets at the Marginal Way are equally spectacular with the soft light dancing on the water.
Make your own memories on this romantic, relaxing cliff walk, and if you want there are steps down to smaller beaches as well. Bring your own towel!

picturesque and easy to walk

By BrotherDerrick |

Easy walk with spectacular views. paved with some small upgrades. Only About a mile with eateries right at the Perkins Cove end. We started in Ogunquit and parked at the paid parking lot. The parking lot kiosk takes credit cards and about $5 an hour, easy peasy. We paid for 3 hours so that we could have lunch before we got back and still had half hour of time left when we returned to our car. We’re so glad that we did this but wouldn’t want to do it in the summer when there’s more people walking and the restaurants are more crowded.

Local Wonder

By Dustin B |

The Marginal Way is a local wonder. I feel so lucky to live close by to this walking path cut right into the rocks. The views are fantastic and the path connects Perkin's Cove down to Ogunquit beach main entrance. I got engaged to my fiancé on this walking path! If you find yourself in the area do yourself a favor and visit the Marginal Way. Wonderful landscaping and many benches are placed alongside the walk and curves around the landscape to give a great view of Ogunquit Beach and the river mouth. The path is paved and wide enough for handicap needs.

Mesmerizing views around every turn!

By FoodFunTravelReviews |

The Marginal Way in Ogunquit, ME is a must! Walk 1/2 mile or 2 miles, every turn brings mesmerizing and captivating views of the Atlantic Ocean, Ogunquit River and Perkins Cove! The benches placed along the way overlook stunning views. The landscapes, beach roses, natural rock formations, its all part of the magic experience you have a long the Marginal Way. A must see every time we visit!

The highlight of my trip

By Yasmina |

Can I bottle up the experience I had with perfect weather last week walking along Marginal Way after having lobster roll alagash beer at the Lobster Shack? Absolutely beautiful and cleansing for the soul. I WILL be back! iA :)

One of the best days..

By Sandra P |

My husband and I spent almost 6 hours on the Marginal Way. We strolled along the beautiful paths, stopping at several benches to admire the scenic views.
We walked all the way to Perkins Cove, had lunch and looked at the shops. Then walked back. It was a great day. Highly recommend.
FYI, dogs are not allowed on the trail between apru April season 1 and September 30.

A wonderful walk along the seashore

By Benjamin |

The Marginal Way walkway is a beautiful path by the sea with an excellent view not only on the ocean, but also on flora, animals, boats, houses and mansions with their beautiful gardens. The path is easy to access from mostly everywhere in Ogunquit, and gorgeous sceneries can be enjoyed behind mostly every corner. Many benches are available on the walk, so that it is possible to relax/rest and quietly enjoy the views on the sea or the cliffs.

Note that free parking spots are available for short stays of a couple of hours directly on the streets around the walkway.

A scenic ocean walk.

By VTBrigade |

The Marginal way offers exceptional views of Ogunquit's rocky coast. The elevated pathway has several cut-outs which allow you to take a moment to enjoy a variety of excellent ocean views. The Marginal Way is between Ogunquit Beach and Perkins Cove.

Beauty at its best

By Karen b |

Beautiful walkway along the coast. Mostly level. Lots of bench’s to rest on. We had a hotel that was long the way so unsure about parking to walk.

Maine-Ly Disappointed

By Edward C |

The gorgeous beaches could not make up for the poor accommodations, loud families, and sloppy tourists. Won’t be going back.

Do NOT bring your little kids!

By Acacia P |

NOT kid friendly! Everyone’s in a rush, and kept bumping into my kids. Some.. one knocked my son in the head and kept walking! I thought I was going to have to be bailed out

Great for toddlers

By Chasity S |

Easy, walkable path for toddlers & strollers. Great views. A must-do with young children. Made for a nice evening stroll. A lot of people passing through but not crowded around 7pm.

This quaint little town is a definite must see!!

By Ellen W |

Marginal Way! The most picturesque walk looking over the Atlantic Ocean on one side and beautiful homes on the other! Sheer Perfection!

Breathtaking Views

By Wanda B |

Beautiful views, benches here and there to take it all in, and the treat of Perkins Cove off the trail are everything!

Beautiful!!

By Edward S |

Nice easy walk with great views, many place to stop and sit along the way. The only issue is that parking can be tough

Outstanding food and service

By Fearless41274131074 |

It was a beautiful bright day for the walk on Marginal Way. The view was spectacular and the water crystal clear.

The town of Ogunquit is charming and we enjoyed our wandering.

Good views of rocky Maine Coast.

By mensch18 |

Beautiful views of the rocky Maine coast. We stayed at Beachmere Inn which has access right to Marginal Way. Wife has difficulty walking so this provided a good way to access the Marginal Way for short walks. Lots of benches.

Great walk

By Michael N |

Rivals or exceeds the Beauty of the Cliff Walk in Newport RI. Easy walk with many benches for taking in the breathtaking views

A must walk if able

By Edward P |

A wonderful seaside walk along the ocean. Limited access points. But not a big deal, especially if you're staying at one of the hotels along the parh.

Can’t miss scenery.

By Lorna Hunt |

We went to Perkins Cove. It’s a beautiful area and very Maine. We hit all the shops and the Marginal Way. Stopped for lunch at Barnacle Billy’s. Sat outside and it was so enjoyable.

Beautiful!

By I A |

Beautiful, relaxing walk by the water. Well maintained path and lots of benches to enjoy the views. Highly recommend!

Walk along the ocean

By margarbi |

This was a nice path to walk along the ocean, open to the public. Scenic. Walked to Perkins cover for dinner and shopping.

Spectacular

By Maureen C |

What a beautiful sight & walk along the ocean. You can walk a couple of miles to Perkins Cove which is a sweet little town.

Great Coastal Walk

By Lilly M |

Very nice walk along the coast line with plenty of availability to sit on benches and view to vista points and rest.

Nice ocean walk

By Mike L |

A very nice stroll along the ocean. About 1 1/4 miles. A little difficult to find the entrance in town. Beautiful ocean views. It ends at Perkins Cove, where there are nice shops and restaurants, so you can have a bite before returning. It's an easy walk but a bit narrow, so i imagine it must be crowded during high season.

Great walk with awesome views

By Jimzorba |

Easy to walk it both ways and also easy to duck out and return to the trail at will. Many nice small inlet beach spots to explore.

Breathtaking!

By 668stephana |

A wonderful, quiet and absolutely beautiful walk past spectacular views of the Maine coastline. It has a few small hills that are not challenging for seniors or families with small children. There are plenty of benches for resting or merely gazing out on the water. It is a shame that property development is encroaching on the pristine area.

Outstanding, easy walk. Stunning views.

By George C |

Stunning views, easy walk, happy we went in December, not crowded at all. Celebrated our 10th anniversary and New Year's Eve. I think this might be an annual thing!

Great path

By Abby |

Great walkway along the coast. Lots of little areas to explore and benches along the way to enjoy the view! My toddler especially enjoyed finding all sorts of rocks on the path

Lots of people, but gorgeous!

By SB1114 |

Loved this cliffside walk. Parking lot is tiny, and we ended up spending $20 to park a couple blocks away at a private lot. As we ended up eating at the Oarweed restaurant, we potentially could have parked there.Highly recommend that restaurant; is right at the Trailhead with great views, and the food was great!

Wonderful oceanside walk

By slalwaise |

Beautiful walk along the ocean, wonderful views. This was my first time doing it, would highly recommend. I use a manual wheelchair and the path is entirely paved and some parts had inclines/a bit steep but manageable depending on your personal capabilities/capabilities of person pushing, should be fine with a power chair. I did have someone to help in those challenging areas, probably could have done it myself but I didn't have to in this case. There are some benches along the way to rest and enjoy the view. Ate at Oarweed at the end in Perkins Cove. Our hotel was in walking distance of Marginal Way, companion did not really want to walk there but could not find accessible parking spot near the entrance so we walked from hotel. Wanted to take the Ogunquit trolley back to hotel, but found they had no accessible trolleys. (2 years ago I saw a few). So we walked back through the village. There were benches along the way for companion to rest (not because he was pushing me, he just needed to rest). Just a note: some people sitting on a bench were making note that there were people using wheelchairs on the trail, and said "look another wheelchair." We are not sightings to be pointed out, and we are people using wheelchairs, not wheelchairs.

Breathtaking Views of the Atlantic Ocean

By outandabout704 |

This is a spectacular mile walk along the rocky Maine coast. It is a paved walk and there are plenty of places to sit and take in the panoramic views and ocean air. Enjoy the New England Coast homes and hotels that follow the walkway.
Start in Perkins Cove, a picturesque fishing cove, Or at the Norseman Hotel where there is a beautiful white sand beach. Either way cannot go wrong.
Helpful information-
There is public parking at both ends (can be busy & expensive early arrivals to the area definitely makes it easier to park.) and a Trolley that runs in season.

Lovely.

By Snorkelweeds |

We enjoy this walk each summer. It's busy July, August and September, but a lovely meander for about 1.5 miles right on the coast. The beach Roses in bloom are always a joy to see. It's wonderful that the Japanese Knotweed, a highly invasive species is being eradicated and replaced with native plants and there are signs pertaining to this on the walk. The issue with Ogunquit is limited parking. There are parking lots which charge anywhere from $15 upwards to day park.

Inspiring

By honest |

A perfect walk to see the jutted rocky coast of Maine and a quaint little cove with lobster boats. The walk is accessible to all, has benches to sit to rest or just take in the ocean views. The trail has easy access points to go to hotels or downtown Ogunquit. I visited years ago before I knew Marginal Way was here. It is a treasure to of been left to the people to enjoy forever.

Beautiful walk

By Nancy S |

The marginal way is a true gem. It’s about a mile long walk from the Sparhawk hotel to Perkins Cove along the rocky coast of Ogunquit Maine. There are many benches along the way to stop and enjoy the ocean view. If you are too tired to walk back there is a trolley you can board in Perkins Cove.

Just the right length

By Annafuff |

This paved walk along the ocean from Ogunquit to Perkin's Cove is just the right length -- not too long -- and you can always take the trolley back to town if you don't want to walk back.

A beautiful hike!

By Pamela R |

The Marginal Way was recommended to us at our camp ground. We paid to park our truck at the community parking area and started out on our walk. Our dog was welcomed since we were off season. It was absolutely beautiful! There were some lat blooming roses along the way. We watched the sea birds and saw the sun set. Very enjoyable.

Great scenic walk

By Stevie B CT |

Great scenery and love that sea air. It does go through the town so it not all along the water. Wear good walking shoes and bring water. Try to use bathroom before because only one spot open to the public on the beach.

A wonderful oceanside walk

By JoVermont |

A paved trail along the ocean with spots to stop and sit on benches, or places to explore closer to the water. Ends in Perkins Cove. Classic Maine rocky coast!

Believe the hype, Marginal Way is one of the best walks in the US

By Kim B |

Believe the hype, Marginal Way is one of the best walks on the east coast. I've visited 49 states, sorry North Dakota, and this may be my favorite walk. The views are unmatched with interesting things to do and see from start to finish.

A Must-See if in or near Ogunquit, ME.

By Mollie M |

Marginal Way was so beautiful and breathtaking! If you take time to go, make sure you take a swimsuit because Ogunquit Beach is right below the trail.

Heaven on Earth

By Lisa B |

Heaven on Earth is how I describe the Marginal Way. I first discovered this gorgeous location in August 2000. Since then, I have been coming back here each year to take this tranquil stroll. I love sitting on the benches or the rocks and just appreciating the view and the world. I love all the small beaches embedded near the hotels. I love admiring all the houses and hotels along the way, too. The flowers are spectacular, as well as all the landscaping along the way. It’s something everyone should see in their lifetime. 🌺

Marginal Way on a temperate New Year's Eve Day.

By NHjo |

It was 50 degrees on New Year's Eve Day, more like October than the brink of January, so there were several people walking Marginal Way. What a difference from the Nor'easter two weeks before!

Beautiful Walk Along Marginal Way

By PackUpNGoNow |

We spent a beautiful day walking along the Marginal Way cliff walk that connects the picturesque towns of Ogunquit and Perkins Cove.

The Marginal Way is a narrow paved path (a little over 1 mile) that offers incredible views of rugged cliffs above the ocean. There are benches to rest along the way and there are steps to climb down to the very wide deep Ogunquit Beach. Resort hotels line Marginal Way as you approach Ogunquit. We learned that many Ogunquit hotels are reserved one year ahead and you may need to reserve two years ahead at one popular resort that is on Marginal Way.

After lunch and shopping in Ogunquit, we were too tired to walk back to Perkins Cove via Marginal Way and instead took a golf cart ride ($5/person) back to Perkins Cove. We ended the day with shopping in Perkins Cove and an ice cream break near the footbridge.

FYI Dog owners: there were posted signs stating that during summer months, dogs are not allowed on Marginal Way.

Beautiful views

By caroline1851 |

This is just a lovely walk. We walked from beginning to end. The views are amazing and it wasn't too crowded. Lots of photo ops along the way.

Maine coast without a strenuous walk to get there.

By Bertducks |

Great way to walk off all that food from lunch! Strip along the rocks all paved and easy to take a stroll on above the waves hitting the rocks below.

Best place to watch the SUNRISE ✨

By Quest765272 |

Absolutely gorgeous place to watch the SUNRISE! Make plans to arrive about 30 minutes prior to sunrise. There are several benches along the way for you to sit & enjoy God’s beautiful artistry! 🌅✨

I dig the Marginal Way

By James N |

Truly a beautiful, easy walk. I had read about this as I was planning our first trip out to Maine this September. We had two beautiful days to enjoy it and it was everything I hoped it would be. If you are in Ogunquit, I highly recommend doing this.It leads into Perkins Cove and is very picturesque. Take your time and enjoy it, buy even stopping along the way, it can be easily done in under an hour.

Great walk Great views Great time

By OnAir41494743924 |

Beautiful 1.3 mile walk path along the Atlantic Ocean that begins at Ogunquit Beach. Completely paved and doable for all ages and abilities. The views are amazing! You can watch the surfers, enjoy the many flowers and natural scenery and see beautiful houses. At the south end of the walk is Perkins Cove where there are small shops ana few restaurants. We parked in the Worster parking lot. It was about an 8–9-minute walk from there to get to the start of Marginal Way on Shore Drive.

Nice walk

By Ady K |

A nice walk in Ogunquit. It fits everyone and you can enjoy a wonderful view of the ocean. We enjoyed it.

The main reason we’d come back to Ogunquit

By travellerfromatown |

This walkway makes Ogunquit so special. Thankfully we don’t have film cameras anymore, because we’d have used all our film on this walk! There are some benches along the way, and some inclines, and some areas you could leave the path and climb on the rocks relatively safely. I wouldn’t walk it at night, but at any time of day it is lovely.

LOBSTER

By Doug H |

beautiful easy walkway to Perkins cove . Ocean front all the way. At Perkins Cove, there be LOBSTER!

beautiful walking path

By northshoregirl |

one of my favorite places to walk. so scenic and peaceful. and I appreciate its gentle path as I age even more

Spectacular

By EPICURIAN-2424 |

The rocky coast is in full evidence along this magnificent mile long paved walk along the edge of the sea.

Nice walk

By DK |

It's a beautiful walk along the coast. Nice houses, rocky new england coastline, and a very civil easy to stroll path. I suggest walking a loop from the village to Perkins cove.

Well Maintained- easy walk- great views

By Irishlazz |

Couple spots where it was difficult to stay 6 ft away from the poorly tended unmasked children, but mostly spacious and entirely lovely.

Always beautiful

By Kim C |

I love this gorgeous scenic walk along the rocky Maine coast. It's an easy 1.5 miles. I've got horrible knees and I managed just fine. Lots of benches to stop at along the way if necessary and so many great photo opportunities. Rain or shine, it's amazing.

Pretty walk but not a photographer's dream

By Sarah |

Pretty but definitely not a photographer's dream. Just a few rocks and the ocean and a nice paved walk. If you go, park at the north end, as the south end of Marginal Way is at Perkins Cove, which is a highly congested tourist walking area. Parking is free at north end. Parking at south end is anywhere from $20 to $30, and hard to find one. Personally would not go back.

Great spot to watch the sun rise

By PointJudith |

My wife made the reservation last minute and we took the last room. It worked out great. Couldn't see the water from our room, however, the water was just seconds away and we sat on the Adirondack chairs for hours and enjoyed the view of the water and beach.

Magnificent Stretch of Coast

By Barbara M |

We've been visiting Ogunquit and strolling the Marginal Way 2-3 times a year for over twenty years, usually twice a day when we're there. Sunrises, orange sunset skies, moon rises, the lap of waves and calls of gulls -- it's all there, and has been there since the days of Franklin Roosevelt.

On one stretch, though, constant outdoor music emanating from a recently renovated house disturbs the peace of the place. I can't imagine paying millions to live next door to such an imposition.

Nor how the Marginal Way organization of volunteers and fund raisers who maintain this gem at great cost and effort allow him to get away with it.

Just saying. But luckily the Marginal Way is long, and this vulgar part is soon passed by.

Marginal way

By Mendoza Morales |

Beautiful to trail to walk on. Anytime of year. Along trail there are benches to sit on. Not much parking though.

Beautiful Walking Path

By CaNative07 |

This is a seaside walkway in Ogunquit, Maine, which has one end in downtown and the other about 1.5 miles away.

If you're staying at the Beachmere Inn or the Anchorage by the Sea, you have direct access to Marginal Way via gates on the property.

I read a few reviews where people said this is perfect for hiking, biking and all mobility types. This is simply not true. The surface is very uneven and narrow - I saw people trying to run, and they constantly had to stop to let others pass. I would 100% not take a bike or powered scooter on this path, at least not by the downtown area. Perhaps further up the trail it widens to allow better passage. I would say if you are walking with a cane, use extreme caution, especially at night. The path is not lit, so that flashlight on your phone will come in handy.

Lovely paved walkway above the rocky shoreline. Many benches from which to contemplate the ocean or watch the sun rise.

By d0rrie13 |

This is a lovely paved walking path above the rocky shoreline, away from the sandy beach areas. The ocean views are spectacular. Easy walk.

Very nice scenic walk!

By siddy666 |

You definitely can't miss walking this path if close to Ogunquit.
Start at the "over-touristy" Perkins Cove and end up at a cute lighthouse monument (Lobster Point)

Trust me, you will get some top notch photos on the way!

Spectacular Ocean Views

By Susan K |

The Marginal Way is spectacular. The walk was great and I wanted to soak up the truly gorgeous views. The path is well- maintained and relatively flat. The Marginal Way is not to be missed on a. Is it to Ogunquit!

Beautiful Scenic Walking trail and Area to Enjoy the Sea

By Cac1234 |

The Marginal Way is one of our favorite places on the east coast. When we are in Ogunquit we enjoy walking the path between the inn where we stay and Perkins Cove.
We walk the path different times during the day and stop to sit on one of the many benches along the way to enjoy the view, crashing waves on the rocks below or watch surfers. This is a must see when in the area.

Gorgeous Expansive Views

By dalulantz |

Gorgeous expansive view of the ocean and crashing waves against the rocky shore.
Amazing sun rise view. Easy 1 1/4 mile walk...a little bumpy and uneven, so it requires caution for some who may be unsteady on their feet. Otherwise, so worth your time and effort. Love the Marginal Way...so grateful to the donors and their foresight to make it publicly available and to the Town of Ogunquit for maintaining and making it more and more beautiful every year with added stone work and landscaping.
A treasure, thank you!

Worth the walk!

By snapperhead11 |

Very easy walk along the coast with access at points to the beach. The path had shade and benches along the way so it was very comfortable and easy. We walked the trail one way then back through town the other way. Must do if visiting the area.

Perfect for a breezy walk

By Damián T |

A lovely spot to take a nice cool walk. The shore is as calming as ever and is a great way to get a refresher. Also great to stop by a cafe for some food.

Scenic Ocean Walk

By Journey03907 |

The Marginal Way is a beautiful oceanfront walkway that is meticulously maintained and a must-do for visitors and locals alike! I suggest at least a monthly visit if you're lucky enough to live close by! It's beautiful 12 months a year :)

Outstanding views!

By NatalieB0803 |

Windy, winding, beautiful view of the shoreline. Bring a camera and jacket, even in early fall. Stunning!

Nice walk along the ocean.

By YotaPower |

We started at the beach and went to the end and back. There were a lot of people out and about but it was still a pleasant exercise friends. The parking was a little expensive right on the beach but it was handy for our walk!

Unforgettable views and a serene experience in winter

By hfitzger |

Beautiful mid-February weekend walk with unforgettable scenery. We parked at Perkins Cove and were easily able to access the trail to walk to the other end and back again. Few others on the trail and everyone was friendly in passing. I can't imagine what it would be like at the peak season in summer where you would have so many others around.

Plenty of benches to take in the view during the off-season and various access points to get down to the beach once you reach the sandy portion of the trail.

Very Maine

By terrdeter |

We parked near Anchorage By The Sea hotel in town, explored the town a bit before veering off into Marginal Way.

Lots of people in town and on the walk - all wearing masks - expect a crowd!

It's a gorgeous walk with views of the beach and rocky coastline - which kids love to climb on. Nice way to spend an afternoon.

Beautiful Marginal Way

By GenaU12 |

Beautiful walking path, incredible views! I would definitely recommend this walk when in Ogunquit. The walk ends in Perkins Cove.

Beautiful

By westie2 |

We once again made this walk on a crystal clear day. The numerous artists along the way so we also enjoyed seeing their interpretations. The path is pretty flat so suitable for both young and old alike.

Beautiful view

By burkejh |

Amazing views worth the ride. We enjoyed the walkway along the coast, watching the waves break on the rocks and dreaming about the beautiful homes that we passed.

Wonderfully maintained path with gorgeous views

By Paul K |

Our first attempt to hike had no parking at the mid-way lighthouse, and then $20 in Perkins Cove. We returned early the next morning (mid-week in October) and got a spot at the lighthouse. The walk from there south to Perkins Cove is great. Wonderfully scenic and a very well maintained blacktopped path with plenty of seats or places to sit on rocks. Nice community/shops to explore at Perkins Cove. The hike north from the lighthouse to Ogunquit can be skipped. Surprisingly busy for a mid-week morning in October, though we greatly appreciated being able to take our leashed dog on the hike. Understand why pets would not be allowed in the summer when this path would be so busy.

Spectacular views along this well maintained trail

By Leslie S |

Terrific trail that is well maintained. Beautiful coastal scenery with lots of opportunities to go to the rocks and sand through safe stairs. Over 30 benches to sit down and partake in the spectacular views. Some up and downs but mostly easy to traverse

Ocean Walk

By Kate A |

This is a great walking path on the cliffs of Maine. It is an easy walk with many benches for sitting. It goes from downtown Ogunquit to Perkins Cove with many different entry and exit points. There are typically surfers in the ocean (even in Winter) and you get amazing views!

An easy walk, some slight inclines, good paving

By mrosas24 |

Worth the time to walk the historical route. Nice pace, not very crowded when I walked, no trash seen, many park benches available for a rest or contemplation and no traffic noise.

Ogunquit Must Do!

By Ann W |

The Marginal Way is a lovely path along the ocean in Ogunquit. The entrances to the trail are well marked. We walked from town down to Perkins Cove. The water and the scenery were absolutely beautiful. The water glistened in the sun.

This was the highlight of our Ogunquit visit. We visited on a Sunday and the trail was quite full, but it was still enjoyable.

Breathtaking!

By Erika & Jeff |

Marginal way is so beautiful. This path showcases Maine’s raw beauty. Rocky cliffs, the ocean. There are also beautiful homes along this walk and it connects from the Perkins Cove area back towards most of the beachfront hotels. Very cool!

Even though it was rainy during our visit, the views were well worth it.

By Susan N |

We have been to Maine several times, but never to the Ogunquit area. The town is charming and the store and restaurant owners were very friendly and helpful. We spent one rainy afternoon at the Ogunquit American Museum of Art. What a gem!

Views, views, views!

By Debra M |

This is an easy level paved walk with beautiful views. We stopped and had a drink on the lawn at one of the hotels. Parking was a little hard to find.

Beautiful Marginal Way

By Richard P |

Gorgeous paved walk along the sea and cliffs starting at Orweeds Restaurant in Perkins cove and finishing at the Beach. About 1 1/4 miles. The walk is very well maintained and features about 50 nice benches and a mahogany bridge. What town has a mahogany bridge? There are beautiful plants along the route and many varieties of bird perfect for bird watchers. It can get busy but is never overcrowded. Very scenic with ocean views.

Beautiful views of Maine coast

By Roberta R |

Paved shoreline path, picturesque viewing sites, access to rocky outcroppings and benches Just lovely.

In recent times, the Marginal Way has been upgraded with more bench seats where you can sit and comfortably enjoy the wonderful view.

The view is beautiful and the walk enjoyable. The view from every spot is amazing and a must-see for anyone visiting Oguquit.

Nice walk to town from Perkins Cove. On a beautiful clear day it is a great place to walk and take pictures

Nice walk with great views

By tektektek |

After lunch, my wife and I took a walk from Perkins Cove back toward town. It is a nice walk with gentle hills and a fair number of benches to sit and rest. A display at one point gives you some geological history of the area.

Great Views

By Brian L |

Definitely worth doing if you’re in the area. Its a little over a one mile walk along the coast, and not really strenuous. Worth it for the views.

Stunning views of the ocean.

By eileenb423 |

The Marginal Way provides stunning views of Maine's rocky coast. The path is safe and easy to walk and there are benches along the way that let you rest and enjoy the vistas. If you are in Ogunquit you don't want to miss a walk along The Marginal Way.

Natural Beauty

By Suept |

This is such an exquisite way to take in the natural beauty of the Ogunquit coastline. You can walk the length in 30 min between Ogunquit and Perkins Cove, or stop frequently to take pictures or rest at one of the many benches tucked into natural overlooks. The path is beautifully laid out and fully paved, with all the beauty of the Atlantic on one side, and gorgeous waterfront homes on the other. Don’t miss this - you won’t be disappointed!!

Words cannot describe..

Easy walking trail. All made for a memorable day trip.

By jdean12345 |

Beautiful walk and views. Parked down the street and walked to the entrance in Perkins cove. Plenty of place to sit and enjoy the view along the way.

Pretty walk

By aruba1006 |

The scenery was beautiful. The walk was easy into Perkins Cove. We stopped to take a lot of pictures and saw a bald eagle resting on the top of a tree. Lucky to see it!

Great little walk with lovely views

By greenpanther30 |

Lovely 20 min stroll along the coast with gorgeous houses to one side and an enigmatic sea to the other. Easy parking near by and not a hard walk at all. Lots of benches for resting or picnics. Enjoy

Spectacular scenery!!

By Mixie |

Loved visiting Maine for places like this. Easy, paved walkway along the shoreline. Plenty of benches along the way. Great opportunity to enjoy the scenery and meditate. Mother Nature at its best with rocky cliffs, tide pools and shallow beaches. Nice hotels and resorts to admire. Went there early to enjoy golden sunrise and avoid the crowds. Found free 2 hour parking at Perkins Cove. Would definitely go back. Beautiful!!

Spring beauty

By Sunshine18983893108 |

Late April on a sunny warm day with a nice breeze was perfect. Wear a windbreaker - it gets chilly. Public restrooms at the end of Perkins Cove by the bridge came in handy. Parking was $4/ hour. Off season is the best. No crowds and no strict monitoring of the time in the lot.

Beautiful

By Quest73426 |

It was beautiful. Such a lovely work and many stores and restaurants to visit on the walk. Did this wallk every day while I was in Maine. It gets 5 stars

Heaven on Earth

By joanstarr2 |

Never have I seen a more beautiful walk! And so easy for my old 80 year old body. Can’t wait to return. Went on a New England tour with Caravan.

Lovely stress free walk and a great sunrise stroll.

By JOHN C B |

The views were beautiful and the sunrise off the point to Perkins Cove was wonderful. I took more photos than expected along the Marginal Way. Had seen several articles about it being one of the favorite walks in New England and it delivered. From Seacastles to Perkins Cove and back up Shore Drive it was a great morning jaunt.

Wonderful Daily Walk

By scranton38 |

This was my early morning walk while vacationing at the Beachmere. They have a couple of entrances to the way and it was perfect. Mostly walkers in the early hours but a few joggers, too. Everyone seems polite if you want to pass or need to be passed. Beautiful houses and scenery to see. You can even walk to the restaurants in Perkins Cove if you want to!

One of the best scenic coastal walk!

By NaderM |

Can't go to Ogunquit without experiencing the Marginal Way. The trail is one of the best and the view is breathtaking.

Beautiful any change of season

By JackandBetty |

Although our day was cloudy it was fairly warm. Crowded but people were generally polite. Walked from the Sparhawk to Perkins Cove to poke around. Stunning views. Be aware there are some hilly spots but lots of benches along the way. Enjoyed seeing the dogs bc they are allowed after Oct 1 but disappointed that the Oarweed was already closed for the season. Next time!

Wonderful Walk with different beautiful homes also hotels

The Mariginal way is a very beautiful place to walk on ,great views lovely homes. We had stayed at the Beach mere Inn which was the perfect place to stay

Marginal Way should be renamed - Japanese Knotweed Way.

By chiantiConnecticut |

Marginal Way should be renamed - Japanese Knotweed Way. It saddened us to see no town committee or Marginal Way Preservation Fund has come up with a plan, and sadly Japanese Knotweed fully blocked the ocean for a very very long distance. It needs a professional plan, before more of it is taken over. How sad this is happening. These are 5 photos taken May 2023. All native plants taken over. How sad funds are not being used for a serious plan, not just chopping it down occasionally. This was a full takeover, and it went on and on. This invasive spreads fast...a plan is needed urgently.

Unique

By Mfandml |

Great outdoor scenic experience. Beach, lodgings, homes, harbor, shops and more. A highlight of the area

Wonderful Walk, No Guide Needed!

By Trish W |

The entrance from our B&B on Bourne St was just around the corner. It was a fabulous walk with gorgeous views of the, sailboats and flowers. Lots, and I mean lots, of benches along the way to sit and enjoy the views. The trail leads right into town so we were able to walk from our B&B via the Marginal Trail to town where we booked a 90 minute boat ride on The Finest Kind.

Beautiful!

By Champy |

Marginal Way is a must-do when you're in the area, it's a beautiful path. Great for an outdoor walk with the family and you will definitely enjoy your time!

Take your fam and go! Walk partial or all the way.

By Mel S |

Beautiful areas! Little inlet beach areas are lovely and were not crowded. Just make sure you've used the restroom before hand or you'll have a long walk to go before finding a facility.

Pure Joy on a Lovely Fall Day

By twomartinilunch |

We live on a lake in Vermont. The fall colors this year were stunning, lots of REDs, and I have been told that the drought this summer contributes to the vibrancy. Si, it was fun to be in Maine for a few days, we needed to escape to somewhere safe before we hibernate this winter. So the colors were lovely and the ocean views add a very different perspective. Walking along the Marginal Way cliffs and hearing the punding surf was pure joy.

Gorgeous view!

By Kelly R |

Definitely a must-see in this area. Pack walking shoes and go for a stroll on the beach or climb on the rocks. Very pretty.

This has to be one of the nicest spots in Maine

By Chris B |

The Marginal Way is beautiful. The walk is paved with plenty of benches. It is interesting but to too steep yet it winds and weaves between the rocks. The scenery is superb. I have been told to be wary of venturing too far out the rocks as it can dangerous. But overall I think it is quite safe. I did notice a ew in wheelchairs so it is wheel chair accessible which is nice. I was told it was about 1.5 miles long which seemed about right. What a great spot.

So pretty and not too long.

By Stephanie H |

An enjoyable and leisurely stroll. Benches along the way. Beautiful views. Nice way to spend an hour or so. Not too busy this time of year.

Always beautiful

By Pat Z |

Dificult to find a way on to the Marginal way if you are not staying close to the entrance. The walk is worth the effort though.

Beautiful walk along the shoreline

By khoward67 |

The marginal way is a beautiful and easy 1.5 mile walk with probably 50 benches along the way where you can stop and sit to take in the ocean view. There are a number of places where you can get on or off the marginal way so you don't need to commit to walking the entire length.

It is a narrow path so strollers aren't common.

There are beautiful native plant gardens along the way, kept by the marginal way garden club.

You can't beat the view at sunrise.

Lovely way to take a stroll!

By Lisa V |

Nice easy 1/14 mile cliff walk along the coast. Beautiful views of the town, beaches and local flora and fauna. There are beaches with life guards along the area, but if you decide to swim elsewhere, swim at own risk.

There are beautiful views of the ocean along every step of the Marginal Way. This is a must see when visiting Ogunquit. The views change daily based on high/low tides, weather conditions, etc.

A must-do in Ogunquit

By Arnie2439 |

A great way to appreciate the rocky Maine coastline. It’s an easy 1.25-mile walk on a paved path along the shoreline. Great views, and many benches along the way for resting or just soaking up the view. Most of the trail is level, but there are a couple of slight rises.

Spectacular path on the oce!an

By Piero F |

Beautiful path, Marginal way is a unique experience with spectacular views on a craggy ocean front. And even more impressive when the sun rises.

Beautiful walk

By Kim R |

Marginal Way was a great walk on a beautiful day. We found it easily enough and then had no problems finding parking. Of course, this is in early May and not yet in peak season. It is a beautiful walk, but I can imagine it gets really crowded. There are a few spots you can climb down on the rocks. It's a paved walkway, fairly easy for any ability. There are also plenty of benches along the way to take a break and enjoy the view.

Excellent

By Karen Mooney |

Really beautiful walk we had a gorgeous day and loved shopping at little shops after walk. Had a delicious cup of clam chowder and a nice cold beer at Oarweed before we headed back on Marginal Way

Always a great walk

By LabLover61 |

A trip to York isn’t complete without walking the Marginal Way. Starting in town and ending at Perkins Cove allows for a lovely ocean walk. Benches are conveniently located along the walk. The sound of crashing waves, on the rocks, is invigorating.

Perfect Walk

By Beachmtntraveler |

The marginal way is a beautiful flat seaside walk with gorgeous views of the ocean. There are several places to step down and access the rocky beach areas. Benches are placed conveniently along the path where you can sit and enjoy a cup of coffee. The path ends at Perkins Cove where you will find several restaurants and small shops. The walk is about a mile one way starting from the Anchorage Inn.. Bring your camera and binoculars, truly a lovely and very enjoyable walk.

Beautiful Views

By Traveler24918 |

Marginal Way was a nice easy walk along the Atlantic Ocean with great views of the coast of Maine and plenty of benches to rest on.

Beautiful on a cloudy day.

By amathesontrips |

This was such a nice experience! We were there on a fairly cloudy and breezy day but the views along the coast didn't disappoint. Since it's still off-season it wasn't too crowded. Lots of benches in quite nooks to stop and take in the views. We climbed out on the rocks in some places too. The lighthouse was under construction which was a bit of a bummer but either way a nice experience. We also enjoyed wandering through the little shops at the wharf where we parked.

Meandering through the footpaths of shaded nooks and crannies and bayberry/rose bushes was a great way to start your day. To see the expansive views of the Atlantic Ocean and surround yourself in nature was very uplifting.

Great way to enjoy the Maine coast!!

By MidwestKathM |

What a great way to enjoy the Maine coast and all that it has to offer! The views of beach and people enjoying themselves, wave crashing on the awesome rock formations, surfers riding the waves, families walking, kids climbing the rocks to get close to the water. The paths are well maintained, and there are benches here and there to sit and enjoy the views for a while. We thoroughly enjoyed walking the Way from end to end!

Ogunquit, you are so lucky to have this!

By keepmovingmom |

We have walked on the Marginal Way numerous times, in different seasons. It is, simply, among the loveliest and inspiring experiences I can imagine.

Beautiful views

By Jamie O |

Beautiful walk above the beach. The views were spectacular. However, you cannot get to the large beach easily from the walk way, you have to go out to the street and back around or wade/swim through the water.

Fabulous views

By Rhonda1962 |

You cannot go to Ogunquit without walking this path. It is truly breathtaking, well worth the one mile walk!

Best thing we did in Ogunquit!

By WiTraveller608 |

Good views of the ocean! About 1.2 miles each way. From the north, the entrance is near the Sparhawk Hotel on Shore Road. On the south end, it leaves from Perkins Cove parking lot. Parking fills quickly during busy times and may be in the neighborhood of $7/hour, Helps to have a hotel within walking distance.

Path is wide enough for 2 people so will be crowded at popular times.

Beautiful easy walk

By travelbug41563 |

We had awesome weather & did the walking path. Very pretty! Nice that there were benches for folks to soak in the beautiful views! Too bad that there is ongoing construction right next to the paths.

Win win!!

By Rebecca T |

The most beautiful scenery!! We took so many pictures. The waves crashing, the sea roses, and the rocks all added up to a beautiful walk. It is a little hilly, but not too difficult to walk. Perkins Cove is at one end and ogunquit is at the other. Win win.

No dogs? O_o

By Tomek K |

US cities are one of the least dog-friendly in the West (compared to Europe) - and this is yet another example. If my dog is not welcome on an outdoor trail, I am not welcome either. Thanks, but no thanks.

A must do on any Ogunquit stay! Well kept path that is easy enough for most! Ends in the lovely Perkins Cove village where you can stop for refreshments and a view! Well worth it!

Awesome views!

By Dewey1006 |

Walking path along the rocky shore from the main town of Ogunquit to Perkins Cove has amazing views and lots of benches to sit on. I did see some wheelchairs on the path so it seems to be accessible. I would recommend that parents/grandparents hold on to little one's hands. It can get crowded, so we prefer this walk in the early morning.

Incredible views

By DFS60 |

This is a must walking area with incredible ocean views. It is paved for easy walking and it is a good enough distance to get a good workout. tends to get a little more crowded in the afternoon so recommend an early morning walk.

Save some time by not exploring the marginal way.

By kusemk |

It does not worth the effort. While the view from the shore is great, it's not that different than the view of similar points on the shore. There is literally no parking available nearby, as the ridiculously few spots available were taken, and I'm taking off season here. I had to park at some private property, figuring out how to navigate from there and praying that the car will be there when I'm back.
It took me about 15 minutes to explore the view and relax.

Tip: the marginal way resides in Ogunquit, more than an hour south of Portland. There is a street with the same name in Portland, where all you'll see are beer factories.

Quaint and Great Views

By CTM |

Went off season. Beautiful views. Cute shops and plenty of restaurant options. Beach clean. Family friendly. Spend a relaxing day.

Stroll and Enjoy.

By Curt K |

While visiting Maine, we took time to stroll on Marginal Way. This path goes along the beach and has a small lighthouse too. We watched several surfers ride the waves out there. There are benches a l ong the path to sit and rest if need be. This is a great way to relax and enjoy the beach.

The Marginal Way is a cliff walk between the Shore Road in Ogunquit and the village of Perkins Cove. It's an easy walk that offers spectacular views of the ocean.

Spectacular- not to miss!

By DiscoQueen6 |

This is one of the most spectacularly beautiful walks in the USA that can be done by most people. It is not to be missed. Is a paved walkway with some slopes and plenty of places to sit on benches and rest. Or, make it a brisk walk if you prefer. Gorgeous fall day only enhanced not only the beautiful ocean views but the homes and resorts along the Way. We live far away but enjoyed this walk for a second time while in New England.

This is the way- don’t miss it!

By Kim C |

Highlight of Olgonquit! Be sure to get up early and enjoy the sunrise if you can or at least get on the the path by 730am or around sunset to avoid the crowds. Take time to Enjoy the gorgeous flowers along the white picket fence at the beginning - splendid and so special! Highlights are the birds, flowers, surfers and tide changes. If you use the Merlin bird app that’s fun to hear all the different kinds of birds along the way. Enjoy!

Beautiful pathways that lead down to the Sand....

By Brake24 |

Was pleasantly surprised that there are numerous stairwells that you can go down to be on the beach in small coves. Once we found this out...we went here every evening. My daughter found tons of crabs in the rocks, and you can walk towards the left towards the main beach. Much quieter being on this side than the river side of Ogonquit Beach.

Marginal Way

By James C |

DO NOT MISS THIS! What a fantastic way to see the beautiful Maine coast while you are at Perkins Cove and/or Ogunguit. About a two hour walk, just take your time and enjoy the scenery.

Stunning, safe pathway along the Atlantic coast!

By mcgotes |

Safe, beautiful mile plus pathway along the Atlantic coast! Breathtaking views, with beautiful homes, guest houses, hotels, and gardens. Easy walk, with intermittent areas to sit, enjoy the views, and take photos!

Walking on a Coastline

By dambanker |

Its not every day one gets to walk along the Maine coast and see it in all its majesty. Well that what we did on this day. We actually stated at the Perkin's Cove end as I was told there was parking right there. And there was, plenty on this day. The pay booth was down, so even better the parking was free.

The walk itself is not too tough, I saw lots of people with different levels of fitness on the path. There are quite a few benches around to take a break, if needed, or just to pause and take in the coast.

If you're in the area, just do it, you won't regret it. Amazing views.

Go walking. Take pics.

By Mitchell F |

Incredible walk through Ogunquit cliffs. Beautiful views of the water and so many families were enjoying it. When you finish the walk and you end up in the area with homes. Walk some more into town and eat some ice-cream and prepare for the walk back to the car or your room. No one can beat this

Marginal way trail

Impressive views, plan on spending time looking for parking. Wear sneakers as path is paved but can be uneven. You can shop and eat along the whole way back to parking. Expect to spend 1.5- 2 hrs I would recommend high tide.

Beyond the sea

By dunedindames |

A lovely walk by the ocean. Every step brings you a deep exhale of awe. Nature at its finest. Early morning is quiet and breathtaking.

Nice view

By Brian W |

Nice place for a stroll to view the ocean on an easy walking asphalt patch. Nice area to sit on benches and enjoy the view. The path isn't very wide so you get the occasional ignorant runner or faster walkers tapping you to get out of the way. Wife has a torn ACL and wearing an obvious knee brace so you would think that people would be more respectful. As with anything else in Ogunquit, you have to pay to park unless you're staying within walking distance.

Trail with sea views

By Juan A. López |

Trail to the edge of the sea that allows wide views. It starts from the Ogunquit parking lot, for a fee. Well paved and suitable for almost everyone.

Take a walk along by the oceanside in Maine.

By Martin Carroll |

Most every tourist area has some nice attraction. In Ogunquit, there is "The Marginal Way" which is a walking trail along the ocean. The trail has more beautiful scenic views than you could imagine. It is a wonderful walk. Although, Ogunquit has many draws without the walkway.

The trail starts near the beginning of Shore Road in Ogunquit and runs to Perkins Cove. It is about a mile beginning to end (one way) .

During the tourist season, there is a town bus service that picks up at Perkins and will return you to the starting point in Ogunquit. I recommend that before you put foot on the trail that you verify that you have a ride back from Perkins Cover if you need it.

Perfect, walking, ocean, must do!

By Christina C |

Marginal Way walk

By Susan S |

Traveled for 15 days along the coast of Maine and this was a most beautiful and serene walk that was set aside for visitors, and those living in the area. It is 1.25 miles long and connects Ogunquit with Perkins cove. (Great lobster rolls and shops). It is stroller and wheelchair accessible and has many dedicated benches from which you can loose yourself in the view.
Best done early if you want to avoid the crowds, but with all those benches it is easy to sit down away from the other visitors.

Scenic Walk Path

By smatso |

We started at the north end and walked south to the beach. It's about 3 miles. It's quite a distance from the end of Marginal Way to the beach but worth the walk. The path is maintained nicely

Must do!

By rblucy |

This is one of the "must dos" when in Ogunquit. There are benches throughout the walk so you can take breaks as needed. Views are amazing and vary depending on the time of day you visit or the weather.

Just beautiful

By napagirl2 |

Went here in October and it was still moderately busy. Cannot imagine trying to navigate the walkway when it is very crowded in the summer. Had to spend 25 dollars to park but it was worth it. Gorgeous scenery with plenty of places to sit and take pictures. Very relaxing and you can check out some of the beautiful homes and hotels along the walkway. Perkins cove has some nice shops and restaurants. Beautful town which gets extremely busy in the summer months and apparently off season too.

Marginal way was a beautiful walk around the ocean side and there are many benches tor relax and watch the waves roll in

By hinesburgers |

The views were amazing and we took many photos. The walk takes you for a scenic route around the ocean . And has many small beaches if you don't like crowds

Beautiful paved walkway with lots of benches to stop to relax and smell the ocean breezes. Mostly walkers with a few joggers. Skateboarding or biking is not allowed nor are dogs April 1-Sept. 30.

Great Walk Along the Coast

By weluv2travelanywhere |

Beautiful, easy walk along the coast. The views are gorgeous. Plenty of places to stop along the way to sit and enjoy the sounds of the waves crashing and hear many different types of birds.

It is a very nice walk along the shore/ocean

By USMCRip |

Parking at either end can be an issue during the warmer months. April is not a warm month. It is a little over a mile walk. Easy walk and paved all the way. Plenty of benches to rest and/or just watch the ocean. Not very wide so when it is busy you may need to walk single file. Beautiful views of the ocean. There are a few places you can walk down to the water. Try this nice walk and Enjoy the Maine Coast.

Lovely Walk! Just Do It!

By LuxTravelExpert |

My daughter and I walked this trail and it was absolutely beautiful! People of all ages were enjoying it on a lovely day. I do not recommend wheelchairs or walkers as it is curvy with slopes.

Best Oceanside Walk Ever

By Balloonguy5731 |

Nothing like Marginal Way in Ogunquit, Maine. Absolutely superb Walkway from Ogunquit to Perkins Cove, ME. The view is spectacular!!

Quick walk

By corey m |

We had some time to kill before a sightseeing Cruise so we took a walk along the Marginal Way. Very well maintained, plenty of spots to stop and take pictures. Even some areas where you can go down and stick your feet in the water. Short enough for a older person or child to walk the entire way with no issues, benches along the way as well. The downfall is the path is very narrow in spots, and it was very crowded. At some point children were running down the path and actually ran into us coming around corners, my three-year-old grandson was knocked over several times. Parking was a nightmare as expected. If you're going there for another reason I highly suggest taking the walk, but if you're going there just for the Marginal Way, you can find plenty of other places to hike with easier parking that won't cost you money with stunning views.

The best of OGT

By JVWNYC89 |

I haven't walked the Marginal Way in a few years, but just did this Tuesday morning (Sept. 21). It is magnificent in the morning especially since there aren't too many people on there yet. Take in that beautiful coastal air, grab a bench (if you can), and enjoy!

highlight of our trip! Don't miss it.

By BLCinti |

We could walk from Terrace by the Sea to Perkins Cove. It's a paved path, winding, a little bit hilly, amazing views.

Can be very crowded in summer

By Lesley S |

The view of the water is breathtaking and the walk is immaculate. Our mistake was visiting in the middle of summer as the walkway is PACKED with people. Also be aware that there is little shade.

Pleasant walk along the rocky coastline between downtown Ogunquit and Perkins Cove

By LAC |

Beautiful coastline walk, about a mile and change. Easy to navigate and benches scattered throughout. Can get a bit crowded during heavy traffic times, and the path is not that wide. Walked the way a few times going to and from Perkins Cove to "downtown". Very pleasant.

A perfect short walk along the Ocean, not to be missed!

By Jeff_Massachusetts4 |

Great for kids young and old. This 25-35 min trail/ asphalt walk along the Ocean is filled with breathtaking Ocean views. Its a nice shortcut to Perkins Cove as well, shops and restaurants.

Fun walk!

By Arianna Fortier |

Beautiful walk, bring your dogs! Great for family and some fresh air, you can see giant mansions to rolling ocean waves, private beaches separated by rock in which you can explore, but one negative is the trails are really narrow, so when you want to breath with you mask down you honestly cannot without going on a beach or something.

Beautiful Walk

By RhodeIslandActor |

We started in Perkins Cove, but there are many ways throughout Ogunquit to access this path. It's possible to walk all the way to the rocks at the end of Wells Beach. Spectacular.

Sun, Ocean & Exercise - Yes Please!

By Fodera |

Loved strolling marginal way, such a refreshing iconic place to view the ocean and enjoy the sunshine on your face, all the while getting some exercise in, highly recommend!

Beautiful views.

By Roy G |

My wife and I were wandering through the streets of Ogunquit and came across this walking path. Path was paved and clean with great views of the beach and the rocky coastline. Several access points to climb on the rocks and check out the tide pools. There is also the Lobster Point lighthouse along the path to check out.

Living the experience

By Tony L |

there is not much to say, it's there, it's the topic of the Maine shore line. You don't want to miss it, or walk it. The sightseeing is beautiful.

A beautiful and relaxing beach walk

By JJK13 |

Marginal away was the highlight of my visit to Ogunquit. Spent the morning running (twice) along this beautiful beach walk. Great way to start (and I imagine) end a day in Maine. It is only about 1 1/4 long so completely manageable for most walkers or runners. Plenty of places to chill along the way.

Walk along the ocean

By Tour48711028687 |

Nice easy walk along the ocean. The path is maintained beautifully. Loved the views of the ocean and the little sections where you can get down to the beach are fun.

Absolutely amazing

By SFC Retired Army |

Maine was my bucket list, did not disappoint. The best part about the ocean views are that they are magnificent and free to see. The 14 hour drive from southern Ohio was a much needed beauty to the eyes and soul.

Gorgeous view

By AmyBGS |

This is an easy walk along the ocean with plenty of benches to rest on. Spectacular views. A must do in Ogonquit.

Storybook Views!!

By laceyblue |

Waves crashing on a ragged coast, ocean spray splashing off the rocks and blue water as far as the eye can see - this is the view as you walk along this paved path in Ogunquit.
We parked in Perkins Cove and had lunch, and started from there. The path begins/end at one end in Perkins Cove, and follows the coast to the main beach - we walked as far as the "Little Beach" where we went down the stairs and enjoyed some beach time. Lovely!
Note: access to the Little Beach from the Path is down some metal stairs and then walking over baseball to football sized rocks (some bigger). Not recommended for those with mobility issues, and people with children need be careful. Strollers are left up on the path.
The MW is a must-do when visiting Ogunquit - there are plenty of benches and areas to stop for photo-ops, or just to take in the breeze and the enchanting views.

Quaint town

By Linda H |

I loved the views along Marginal way...just stunning. The beach was nice, though crowded, and had some excellent food.

Lovely Little Walk

By luvtravel88 |

This was a lovely short walk on pretty flat ground that runs along the coast, back to a small, but beautiful cove, called Perkins Cove. It was also interesting because not only are you looking out at beautiful views along the water, but you're walking along the backs of properties. The walk is about a mile long. There is an entrance to the pathway across the street from the Seacastles Resort.
Finding parking wasn't easy, but we found a pay by hour lot about a block from the resort in the direction of the little town.
If you follow the path, you come out further up the street away from town.

Nice path with great views

By Jane K |

Paved path along the rocky coast. We started in Perkins Cove and walked to the Lighthouse. Path was very busy with lots of tourists.

Must see in Ogunquit

By Catherine S |

No matter how many times we walk the Marginal Way, it never fails to make us smile at the natural beauty of the ocean, rocks and Rosa rugoses.

Beautiful

By Bailey B |

This place is beautiful, a great walk. A great way to see the coast. Its really nice that it is paved. If you have young kids you want to make sure they stay close. There are some quick drop offs.

Lovely Oceanside walkway with small beaches

By DJRN |

We loved our walk on a sunny September day and the chance to put our feet in the water. There is a public restroom, at one end in the pier area of Ogonquit which is good to know because there is non along the walk. There are also nice shops and restaurants there.
Definitely a great way to enjoy the coast of Maine.

Beautiful, easy walking trail

By jvmaddux |

This is a beautiful, easy walking trail along the ocean and behind some hotels and nice homes. Highly suggest!

Don't Miss the Marginal Way

By Michael W |

The Marginal Way Walkway is a beautiful walk along the ocean in Ogunquit. It is especially nice during the autumn part of the year.

Breathtaking!

By Judy M |

Accessed by different points in Ogunquit, this walkway by the ocean offers an absolutely beautiful view. There are benches but little shade, so walking with a hat and bottle of water might be helpful. Marginal Way extends from the charming Perkins Cove, with restaurants and shops, and is a scenic alternative to walking through town. It is what we love most about Ogunquit.

Beautiful walk

By christina M |

Beautiful easy walk around the coast - you have to do it. It was even more lovely than I expected. Great way to see Ogunquit

Marginal Way, Ogunquit Maine

By brendathibault29 |

One of the best places to be 💕 beautiful views, nice to be able to sit along the way.
Amazing place

A must do while in Ogunquit

By 663keelyh |

Very pretty and easy walk with all the Maine-type views you could want. Lots of benches/opportunities to stop and enjoy the views. Definitely crowded at peak times of day.

Nice walk around town

By Jeff N |

Good way to see the town and ocean in a decent length walk. Good mask compliance by all on the walk. We did the walk almost every day on Marginal Way while on vacation. Great exercise opportunity

Nice to look at on that particular day.

By NHjo |

I stopped in Ogunquit on the way to Portsmouth on a very windy, cold late January day to take photos. Marginal Way was devoid of walkers, of course, but it was nice to view with all the dark gray skies.

Breathtaking walk

By Pellbee77 |

This walking path is one of the more beautiful ones out there. It’s not necessarily peaceful because so many people are walking it, but so many great views. Numerous benches are along the Way which is great if any in your group aren’t super mobile…

Visit the Marginal Way before the crowds return

By Herb M |

We were on a day-trip to southern Maine, and included a morning walk on the Marginal Way on a sunny morning mid-week. There were very few people walking, and it was easy to park. The restrooms at Perkins Cove were both locked; there was a porta-potty which was filthy. The Marginal Was lovely in the morning sun; we stopped periodically to look at the view, or sit on a bench - on the whole walk we saw under 6 people. I recommend you see the The Marginal Way soon before the crowds return.

Go for sunrise, avoid the crowds

By Kathleen C |

Must do if stopping in Ogunquit. Paved. Only 1.25 miles, we started at 5:45 am at the Sparhawk Inn, walked to Perkins Cove and the footbridge and back before most even had awakened! Get your photos and steps in early before the crowds (late September midweek was still full parking lots at Perkins cove and on beach street by noon.

We walked at twilight sunrise and it was perfect.
Rainbow was during a shower the afternoon before.

I’m sure it was pretty

By tkring |

First of all, Google Maps will take you to a resort not Marginal Way. Tho the security guard was very helpful by giving us directions. By the time we found it, it was crowded and no parking. We decided to not peruse and visited the public instead. There really are no bad views in Maine

Great walk

By Jfotogiz1 |

Always a great walk with great views. The walk is about 1.3 miles over paved and rock walkways. The walk ends at Perkins Cove shops and restaurants.

Great surprise

By Brian K |

If you want to experience the Atlantic Ocean and great vistas this walk is for you. Perkins Cove is where we started and they have a paid parking lot right on the ocean and another private lot that was $10 weekdays and $20 weekends. We went to the other lot where you pay $3, $6 or $9 for one, two or three hours parking. the lot fills up but there was always someone leaving the two times we were there. This is a paved walkway about 1.2 miles each if you go to the end. There are numerous benches and stairs leading to the shoreline. The trail is wheelchair friendly. The houses and resort along the way are great as well, but the views of the ocean and shoreline are second to none. I loved the flowers and vegetation along the way. Returning to Perkins Cove we had the best Clam Chowder I have ever had at the Lobster Shack or just to the right of it. Some nice shops as well.

Beautiful ocean hike

By Jim B |

Very easy hike along the ocean, pretty views and numerous benches to take a break and soak it all in. Definitely a relaxing way to spend a couple hours and get in some steps.

Beautiful views with lots of benches to rest your weary body

By 717elaineb |

Beautiful views along the cliffs. Lots of bench to rest. Walking distance to Perkins Cove. Can walk all the way to down town.

Beautiful Coastal Location

By lovetravel2 |

This is an absolutely breathtaking coastal paved walkway. There are tons of benches to sit, beautiful cliffs, spectacular homes, and fresh ocean breezes. An absolutely amazing location that can't be missed.

Great morning walk

By N M |

I enjoyed walking the Marginal Way in the mornings - great way to start the day. Portions were a little steep, be sure to take plenty of water as there is no where along the way to stop to buy any

Beautiful walk

By JMoore0714 |

It’s a short but gorgeous walk along the beach overlooking the rock formations. Also you get to see some beautiful homes.

a shame, everyone is wondering what it is, and how it passed the town!

By chiantiConnecticut |

can anyone comment on how this passed? Its HUGE and just feet away from the Marginal Way...running past bench 32, and way before it...saw the bulldozed claw ripping out plants just feet away from the benches...people are asking when does the noise stop...the construction is major major big...and Loud. sure it must be private land, but still wouldn't a place as UNIQUE as Marginal Way have protections in place from the town from this over building. Pls experts and town officials weigh in and comment. This project looks extremely detrimental to the coastline view, and all that we treasure on Marginal Way, When I say huge, take a walk on the path, "you will not believe how long this dig excavation goes, and how deep and close it is to the path. A shame. Why is it not online... ? Did town residents complain? where are the minutes? pls let us all know...people are all commenting today on the path, in shock really..and it is so noisy you cannot sit on any of the benches near the worksite, which is long and huge. Pls post, we all want to know.

Easy paved walk with coast views

By gr8ful4222 |

This is a lovely and easy walk, but it’s also quite popular. We came on a Sunday afternoon, and were lucky to get a parking space at Perkins Cove for $5 an hour. Cars were circling looking for spots, and the trail was extremely crowded with people, but it was a clear and sunny day so the views were great. Perkins Cove itself is a nice shopping area with a cute little drawbridge.

Stunning views!

By TaurusRising |

Such a lovely experience to slowly walk along the cliff edge and take photos. Didn't take very long and we could turn back any time but it was so delightful so we kept walking from Perkins Cove toward the opposite end of the cliff walk. Even though it is technically uphill and downhill, it still was a very easy walk for me and I am no spring chicken!

The Best Part of Town

By Carol Ann J |

Marginal Way is our favorite part of Ogunquit. We walk the path many times during our stay in the area. We enjoy sitting on one of the benches along the path and watching surfers and the waves crashing along the rocky coast.

Make the Time to Visit

By Zanda G |

It was a stunning scene walk! We were so happy we visited! Thank you to whomever saved this space for the public. We loved seeing the artist painting the ocean scene too. Lovely place to visit. We didn't have lunch at one of the nearby restaurants, but now that we know, we will next time.

We went on a bad day

By RD03875 |

We went November 9, 2020 it was very foggy until way after 1:30pm. Wearing a mask while trying to navigate the uphill and down hill was not fun. There were a lot of people out there. It was a nice walk though, Highly recommended.

Beautiful walk!!

By Mike F |

We didnt get a spot to park down by the beach so we headed up this way, found a great lot for 20$ and super friendly people. We were about 2 blocks from the far end of this walk so we walked it back to the beach. Awesome walk along the shore with views the whole way! Benches to relax and takes you right downtown and to the bridge to the beach. So glad our day worked out this way!!

Even in the rain it is stunning

By Kantorm |

If you are travelling along the coast, this is a wonderful short walk along the rugged seashore. Crowded yes (even on a rainy day), parking not plentiful, but worth a visit for sure

Wonderful walk

By scranton38 |

Hopped on the path in Perkins Cove. This is a gorgeous path. Glad we brought the stroller as a little kid running along the cliffs would’ve given me a heart attack. I see why people love this walk and I will be doing it again the next time we’re there.

Marginal Way required

By Blake H |

This is a walking trail along the ocean in Ogunquit. Wonderful views. A relaxing walk. Amazing houses on the other side. One end at Perkins Cove and the other into downtown Ogunquit near shopping and restaurants. This is a must do.

Easy walk with beautiful views

By JP01 |

This is a nice easy walk along the ocean with beautiful views. Take as little or as much time as you like- we took a break to relax on one of the rocky beaches. You can enter at Perkins Cove and walk the entire legnth to Ogunquit Beach.

Stroll Along and Soak in the Beauty of the Coast!

By PhlegmMaster |

My wife and I walked the roundtrip (to the end & back - same trail) of the Marginal Way. It was a lovely day, with brisk breezes and plenty of sunshine.

A perfect place to stroll along the coast and reflect on Life.

Beautiful view of the Southern Maine Coast

By njtess96 |

Very enjoyable walk along the rocky coast of Southern Maine. After passing the shops in Ogunquit, you come to a beautiful walk called Marginal Way. Lots of great views.

Very Hot (unusual early summer day)

By DoJoWillow |

I would highly recommend taking the walk on the Marginal Way during average temperatures. (96 degrees at the end of June was not comfortable).

Marginal Way

By Susan W |

A beautiful, scenic way to spend an hour in Ogunquit. The walk has many benches along the way to rest and enjoy the awesome views.

A must do! Marginal Way

By Tom K |

This we did sevarl times during our stay. Great walk and views and the best was it started/ended at places to eat/drink. I would do this again and again.

#1 thing to do in Ogonquit!

By Ann Z |

Beautiful path by the sea that runs down the coast to Perkins Cove. This walk was the reason we stayed in Ogunquit overnight and it did not disappoint! Beautiful flowers on one side and amazing coastline views on the other! Even on a gray day it was stunning.

Lovely walk along the ocean

By RYC88 |

The path is paved the whole way and there are so many benches for people to use to rest or look at the view or just people-watch. The volunteers in the community keep the path clean and do so much work on the plantings all along the way - it's obvious they are very dedicated. For most people, it's a very easy walk, but I can see where less mobile people would have difficulty with the elevation changes. It can get very crowded and there were walkers, runners, and strollers all along the way most of the times we were on it. Most people seem to be aware of their surroundings and keep to the correct side of the path and let faster walkers and runners pass by. There are many entrances/exits and it's fun to explore the neighborhoods along the way, as well as admiring the ocean and wonderful rock formations on the beach. There are plenty of places to go down to the water, too. We were also impressed with the informational signs along the way. Such a great walk.

Summertime Family Fun

By Sandy C |

Sea Castles is my favorite place to stay and walking distance to many great restaurants located along Shore Road. Take a morning walk (1.25 miles) on inspirational Marginal Way and enjoy the English Perennial gardens. There is shopping in the area, many stores: Calluna & Kiki and Dock Square Clothiers in Perkins Cove. Also, there is entertainment in the area in the evening. ***** Sandy C from upstate New York

Marginal Way is the appreciable way

By Russell W |

My wife and I went on a spontaneous hike on the Marginal Way and it's as beautiful as ever. We never tire of this activity. Parking at the Perkins Cove end of the trail may be hard to come by during peak times. The majority of parking spaces costs, but there are free spaces. The Way is mostly paved, has benches on which to relax and take in the beautiful scenic views and wide enough for two to walk side by side. The trail itself is free. You can park at quaint Perkins Cove and enjoy the shops and restaurants there along with hiking the Way. Some parts are steep, and there is access by stairway to some small beaches.

All entrenching feelings of wonder, awe and peacefulness.

By Gloria M |

I love this sooo very much! My husband and I got Married here. It's such a special memory for me, I will come back as often as I can.

Lovely views! Street parking

By L0ve2Escape |

BEAUTIFUL. I’ve seen beaches all over southern states and Caribbean. So I was surprised that this view can give them a run for their money.

It’s hard to find street parking (a hot Friday in July) but worth it if you can. Or the view simply from the mini-lighthouse is great too.

Heaven on Earth

By brookesyde |

There is not a better seaside stroll than this one. Great for all mobility types. Plenty of well appointed benches with a million dollar view. If you power walk or walk with a cane then this venue is for you. Every time you are on The Marginal Way you see and experience something new. This place is heaven on earth. If it rains during your stay try to walk this one in bad weather. An angry sea is really beautiful.

a MUST-SEE and DO!

By PamRoad |

This is a wonderful, light walk along the cliffs overlooking Perkins cove. There is a slight incline as the hill traverses the seaside, but it is a mild walk by any standard. There are benches along the way to sit and rest or just enjoy the gorgeous scenery. Even if you go to the first bench and stop, it is totally worth the trip to Perkins Cove.

Gorgeous Place, make it a day!!

By Happy Traveler |

This is, by far, one of the most gorgeous locations I've ever visited in this county. It was breathtakingly beautiful, and we were blessed with a gorgeous day.

So let's talk about navigating this adventure -

If you've ever been to this area of Maine before, you'll know that parking is difficult to come by. Be prepared to pay $25 or $30 to park in a lot in the town. We entered "Perkins Cove Parking" into our GPS, but that was full - we passed two other lots that you have to pay $25 or $30 to park in - so we did it! It was full day parking, so plan an entire day around this visit.

If you enter the trail by Perkins Cove, its a gorgeous walk into the town of Ogunquit. We started the trail at 11ish, and ended up getting back to the care around 5ish. That included shopping in Ogunquit, grabbing a bite to eat, getting some coffee, and taking in the view. There was also a trolley to take back to where we parked, but it was hard to come by and we preferred to walk the beautiful trail back!

It's doable for most people - the trail is narrow in some spots, but everyone was kind to let those that needed to get by through.

Obviously, on a beautiful day, it gets busy, but nothing crazy! Lots of benches along the way, and the trail and surrounding foliage is greatly maintained!

This is a must see - just plan ahead for parking and taking in a full day to make the most out of that $25 parking fee!

Just a warning - if you enter "Marginal Way" into your gps, it will take you to a street that, while it does have an entrance, there is no parking there. I highly suggest parking by Perkins Cove or somewhere in Ogunquit and walking one way or the other.

Gorgeous!

By Bhushan Timla |

We spent a beautiful day walking along the Marginal Way cliff walk. This path goes along the beach and has a small lighthouse too.
Marginal Way is a narrow paved path (a little over 1 mile) that offers incredible views of rugged cliffs above the ocean. The views are amazing! You can watch the surfers, enjoy the many flowers and natural scenery and see beautiful houses. There are benches to rest along the way, This was such a nice experience!

Don't miss this walk!

By Brenda S |

Very nice walk around a beautiful area with views of wide open ocean, Ogunquit beach and many areas beyond.

Beautiful and Worthy Hiking Trail

By Christopher C |

A well maintained walking trail in between most of the hotels in town and the rocky shoreline make for a worthy exercise regimen. At 1.5 miles, I think, its doable for most folks, and you end up in Perkins Cove where there are several restaurants at the end of your hike to grab a bite to eat and a cocktail, if you choose

Incredible walk along the Maine coast !!!

By Jim S |

The Marginal Way is a 1 1/2 mile walk along the coast from Oqunquit to Perkins Cove. The beauty of this walk is incredible !!!!!! Words are no enough to describe it !!!!! If you get up early, the sunrise is breathtaking

A great stroll

By bukagirl |

Everyone who goes to Ogunquit goes here.
A lovely relaxing stroll along the seaside.
Lots of photo ops and benches if you need to rest.
Beautiful vistas around every bend.
Lovely homes and pretty flowers.
I would recommend and return.
