Mill Avenue District is a very busy place, a central, vibrant part of Tempe - lots of indie shops and boutiques selling everything you need or everything you don't need, cafes, restaurants, taverns, some historic buildings, and people walking everywhere. Broadway, of sorts - AZ style, if you will. Of course, it's popular with students of ASU , visitors and tourists at any time of the day.
A lot of construction is going now in Mill Avenue District, as well - new businesses are making their way to Mill.

Love to go to Tempe, AZ. There is a great deal to do and see there. They have some really great restaurants too. It is so simple to go to Tempe for an afternoon or evening, if you're staying in Phoenix. The light rail goes to the heart of the city and most everything is within walking distance. There are places to hike and bike. Just an all-around good place. Downfall? It's hard to find parking. That's why I suggest the light rail.

Mill Ave has a lot of shops and eateries to satisfy anyone on any occasion. I don't know what one CANNOT find here, aha! There's so much to eat and shop at, no car required, just walk down and you'll find something. The shops are usually always inviting, no matter time of day (with regards to open hours). I'm underage, but me and my friends still can find stuff for us late at night when the bars are open, live music and karaoking about, and large crowds at little venue parties. There's one or two light rail stations that pass through, before and after Mill starts.
And at the end of the day, or before you leave, there's Tempe Beach Park at the end, with a lake and walkways to relax by some water.

I visited the Mills Ave District for my last night in Az. I had driven down this road before and knew I'd find a good place to have a beer. There are tons of restaurants so everyone should be able to find somewhere to eat or drink. It's definitely worth a visit!

Many many bars to choose from! No real shopping here but tons of food options. Since we went during day, did loop in about 40 minutes. Great people watching. Stopped at a random bar for a beer and called it a day.

If you want to see young people come to this place. It has great shops, bars, eateries, etc. It is a fun place since is so near ASU.

Speaking primarily on the historic mill that sits at the end of Mill Avenue. Extremely intriguing history about the history about the origins of the Tempe area. The Hayden Flour Mill sits frozen in time, with windows to peak inside to view old machinery. There are multiple signs around the outside that share information and old photos. It truly gives relevance and context to the site and area. Continue down Mill Avenue with spacious sidewalks for plenty of bars, restaurants and boutique shops. A Valley Metro rail stop right nearby connects you to other parts of the city, including the airport. Highly recommend a visit!

This are has the true ambiance of an excellent college town and activities. The buildings are old and majestic and packed with history.

It is a pleasant place for a night walk between bars and restaurants. Many options for drinking and eating. It is a party place.

I've been to the Mill Ave district several times when in the area to visit family and am always glad I did. The is a variety of restaurants and bars and unique shops. The area is clean, safe and easy to access by train, bus or car.

Was in town on business and stumbled on the downtown area just driving around. its an awesome vibe. As Im from NC I didn't realize it was a college town. While there were some renovations going on, there were a lot of restaurants open and shopping. I stopped in a cool burger place called Americana Burgers! They were friendly, quality food and I got it quickly!

SO many great shops and restaurants! Plan to spend a couple hours on Mill Avenue. Close to everything and unique stores to browse.

Started the night at Fat Tuesday's. Then went over to Low Key. As usual both places were a blast. Looking forward to our next time there.

Downtown Tempe-Mill Avenue is a great place to be any night. Lots of good restaurant and interesting people.

Big mall, good shops, lots of sales, great movie theatres and i spend the whole day in the mall. Literally.

If you are in Tempe then this is the place to go. It is a college town so it has a bit of that vibe but really it does have everything that you need. Lots of good for choices. Mostly chain so maybe not the best if you are looking for "local" style but there were a lot of good options. It is also just a very nice looking area of town with some gift shopping as well. It is also nice that it is the one main strip of town so everything is all in one place.

We were thrilled that our hotel was right in the middle of this lovely neighborhood of shop and restaurants!

It is a few walkable blocks of small shops, restaurants, bars and some movie theaters. Some of the establishments have live music, especially on the weekends. Also, there are often events in the streets. You can hike "A Mountain" or check out Tempe Town Lake while you are there. Best in the cooler months as it is hot in the summer.

Tempe's downtown area is a vibrant and evolving environment. New restaurants, new shops. We were there for the Tempe Festival of the Arts last weekend. Parking during these festivities are always a challenge. Take the light rail and make it easier.

Mill Avenue is a treasure trove of restaurants and shops. You can find just about any type of food such as pizza, sushi, tacos, gyros, burgers and fries, salads, handmade popsicles and desserts. All price ranges for food. There are a host of small boutiques and storefronts to wander in and out. Especially fun when there is a themed art show going on. Street parking is abundant and also parking lots when there is an event.

Located basically adjacent to Arizona State University, the ASU SunDevil spirit is always alive in downtown Tempe. Some very nice eateries and of course a number of bear garden sports bars and gathering spots. One place that we really enjoyed was the Salvation Army Coffee Shop just North across the street from main campus. Atmosphere was laid back and and the food and espresso was good too.

Wow, where do I start...do you feel like eating, drinking, relaxing or shopping? All these are at this spot conveniently located next to ASU and its campus. Casual and fun are the themes so come prepared to enjoy yourself! El Hefe is a great spot within this location to grab a beer and cheap meal...Cactus sports has all your ASU spirit wear and their is plenty of parking off the mill avenue to the north near the apartments. Just park on the street and find a meter. Be patient at first, finding a parking spot requires a little patience since this is a popular destination by a lot of people local and tourists!

Mill Ave was decorated so pretty for the holidays. My family and I just walked up and down Mill Ave checking out the different stores and there was even live entertainment! Omg if your hungry don't worry about it there were plenty of restaurants and fast food places to eat at. The crowd was mixed, there's something for all ages to enjoy. We really enjoyed ourselves and would definitely visit again.

After dining at a pizzeria, we decided to walk around Mill Avenue with the kids. We had a lot of fun taking pictures and listening to street performers. The kids also enjoyed writing on the large chalk wall. I typically think of Mill Avenue as a college student hang out, but if you leave before dark, it is completely appropriate for elementary-aged children.

I always envisioned Tempe as a bit of a dump. However, this suburb of Phoenix has risen a long way and this street and its side streets are packed with hip bars, coffee shops and restaurants. Annual special festivals are held here and they block off the roads so it becomes a pedestrian paradise almost as good as WeHo or the Westwood and Santa Monica areas of LA. Very cool. However, due to the proximity of ASU, it's almost 100% student infested. However, older folks will enjoy the action as well.

Situated close to the Arizona State University Campus..six minutes away by cab...this road is a hub for all kinds of restaurants and bars, speciality clothing and other retail shops, icecream parlours and coffee shops. In the evening it is buzzing with students, parents, visitors and faculty unwinding after a long day. Just off this street are also the Tempe Mission Palms Hotel and the Marriot courtyard hotel.
If one stays around this street eating out is a pleasant walk away in the evening and not to far to go in the hot afternoons.
If in the mood for some explorations just at the offshoots of this street are interesting sculpture installations, churches, mosques. On Mill Avenue there is an art museum put up by the ASU faculty which is also a good visit.
This is a good area to stay when in Tempe. The best and central part of the town actually.

I like it here. In past years I've spent the Christmas and New Year weeks here. This time I was relaxing after some hiking and rafting. Mill Avenue is very lively, especially alongside a sports event at ASU. There're more restaurants than you'll be able to sample even if you stay a week. And lots of al fresco dining and drinking. Browse some of the smaller shops. And now there's an AMC movie complex near the heart of it all. As well as the venerable classic Valley Art. The light rail stops here and shuttle bus service is free.

Reminded me of State St. in Madison. Tons of places to eat. Busy on the weekends. Parking in the ramps expensive.

Walk along Mill Ave and catch food from burgers to pasta to shepherd's pie to Mexico City style Mexican food. Keep walking down Mill and then go to Tempe Town Lake for a stroll.
Pokemon Go players: many Poke Stops along Mill Ave and at Tempe Town Lake as well as a nest at Tempe Town Lake. I live locally and go there often.

If your traveling to the Phoenix area you need to checkout Mill Ave. They have great shops, restaurants, hotels, the Salt River and ASU is close. Go there and shop, eat lunch and enjoy. This is a great find, you will be glad you spent the day on Mill!

Mill Ave has a bit of everything. History, restaurants, bars, theaters, and a wide variety of people. Great place to eat, stroll, and watch people. I love hanging out on Mill Ave!

This casual, hip area has a variety of casual, no-frills restaurants and shops, and is right by ASU, so the clientele are younger. It's not a big, flashy area, but it's a good activity for an afternoon to window-shop and have a quick bite to eat.

The Mill Avenue District exists because of the needs of students fro Arizona State University for various services, but it has grown into a major attraction on its own, with many restaurants, mostly good, with good city planning and a delightful ambiance. New parking facilities have opened; $2.00/hr. The decorations at Christmas are worth a special visit. Its ambiance will be enhanced in the future by a streetcar addition.

Great area. Very hip with lots of current shops and restaurants. Highly recommend venturing out and seeing this area.

This area serves the ASU students with lots of beer, burger, pizza joints. Yes some coffe shops, stores; but it is a place to drink

A friend and I took the rail glider to Mills Avenue twice during our trip. It was a short walk from the Rail Glide. We enjoyed our stroll visiting the local shops and the many restaurant choice for lunch. For NYE we enjoyed that they blocked off the streets and that there was a ton of great places to enjoy the festivities.

Mill street is a cornucopia of restaurants, bars and specialized shops that cater mostly to the college crowd since it is essentially a college town. But as a business visitor I found it entertaining and there were many places where i found good food, great drinks and a good time.

This is a fun area to bum around and shop and relax. A lot of choices of retail stores and many restaurants to choose from.

Great Street to walk down and visit restaurants, bars, and shops. The place to be on Friday and Saturday night.

we came here 3 times on our visit and had a great time each night. lots of choices and seemed very safe

This avenue is perfect if you want to spend your time walking and having a nice time. You can find a lot of type of stores. Have fun!

lots to see and do for fast food and bars. perfect for the student scene - not fine dining area, some hotels in the area and park close by with A butte to climb for those with energy - served by bus and train nearby or you can walk or bike

went to see my g-son at the university, this is a nice college town goes up there for conferences also, the atmosphere is edgy but nice, I enjoy ppl watching, especially the busy college students.

This is a happenin' place to visit when you're in Tempe. Lots of choices for food and drink indoors or outdoors, quaint or quiet, eclectic, romantic or athletic style!

It is a place that during the day is some restaurants and shops close to the university. The restaurants are either big chains or smaller mom and pop shops on the main mill avenue district. I would say at night it is all college students and more homeless then usually are present during the day. Good food time out if you want to drink a lot and have a lot of places to choose from. Not for families in my opinion at night, and during the day it is fine for families.

Plenty of great local shops tons of great restaurants very pedestrian friendly trains and buses easy to navigate

This is right next to ASU. We had dinner on this street several times and it was always crowded with a fun vibe.

Fun area for daytime shopping and restaurants. Lots of bars/restaurants to enjoy at night as well. Good party atmosphere.

Walked around the Mill Avenue District in ASU, it's great place to go and feel the university ambiance, with funny shops and a lot of options for eating or having a drink.

A great place to get a bite to eat, people watch and go for a hike. This is the kind of downtown you like to see in every city. Vibrant human activity, places to shop and eat and easy to access. Parking is a bit of an issue, as it is in just about every downtown area, but there are paid parking ramps and some free on the street parking. There are many activities that take place down in this area. The Aloha Fest was going on when we were in town. A fun place to hang out, young or old. It's worth the stop and worth the effort of finding a parking spot.

It's a great place to go and have a date night! There is lots to see and do:) There is a pizza place right by the movies and a great ice cream place too:)

Just go and explore! It's the center of ASU College district and down the street from Grady Gammage Auditorium.

Another area of Tempe overrun with homeless folks. Expect to be hit up for money. The area is also noted for students from Arizona State University students who love to drink.

I've always liked touristy spots and Mill Ave can be lots of fun. Be prepared to spend more at places like Jack in the Box then in other areas. Not a great place to bring a bicycle, but fun to walk around. Drinking is the big scene here at night.

Great place for food and drinks. Just be prepared it is mostly a college vibe so many intoxicated kids in some of the places. Late night tends to be very loud but if your looking for a drink or a quick bite, it is certainly worth it.

There is always something to do and something good to eat. Mind you it can get crowded, but that is because it is THE destination for nightlife in the valley.

There are at least 2 dozen places to eat and drink. There is a decent variety of food although there are several choices for burgers, pizza, and beer. The area felt safe.

This is a must visit again on our next trip. Tons of fun places to eat. Cool shops and action packed bars! Everyone made us feel welcome!!!

A typical college town scene. Restaurants, fast food, bars of every type, tattoo parlors, theatres. Always worth a stop.

Lots of bars, restaurants and shops here. Right by campus, it's generally young. Not much in high-end food but lots of outdoor spots, drink specials, sports on Tv's, piano bars, live music. Etc. Too many homeless hang out here.

I have been to Tempe for years now. We came to mill ave for a little fun. I must say i was disappointed. The charm of the area is gone. The small quaint stores are not there anymore and have been replaced with more trendy bars. It is definitely a college area now. Too bad. It smelled. There were many pan handlers and homeless. Not impressed Tempe. Will not return.

Most of the shops were closed or being renovated. There were lots of people begging but didn't see any law enforcement. The plus was a ice cream sandwich place with freshly baked cookies!!!!! The best ever!!!

Had a good weekend here. Lots of restaurants and bars and people watching. Fun atmosphere and highly recommended.

Football weekends are a blast with lots of bars, noise, good food. We enjoyed ourselves strolling, taking in the sights, dining.

This is a nice area to visit. It consists mainly of restaurants and a few small shops. Lots of nice places to eat, have dessert or enjoy a coffee. Metered parking on most streets/side streets.

This street has everything you need!
Many restaurants and stores.
It is beautiful and nice to walk around.

Mill Ave is one of the hottest spots on town and is always a great time! Wonderful variety of establishments and people.

The wife and I had a pile of hours to kill before a concert at the Marquee Theatre across the river. Wandered into Mill Ave area and what a plethora of pubs, restaurants, and shops to pop into. Its a safe looking area with newer apartments surrounding the area with younger professionals hanging about spending their evenings downtown.

After Vegas, we came to Phoenix as part of our roadtrip to see a bit of "real America" and go bar hopping at night to meet some genuine young people. Mill Avenue was perfect for this as there are plenty of bars and was busy even on a Monday and Tuesday night, with El Hefe and Dierks Bentley's Whiskey Row being the busiest and best. One thing that really surprised me about Phoenix and I think America in general was the absence of any trouble and consequent lack of bouncers. The one or two bouncers that were in each bar were not fat bald and aggressive like over here but more young people (probably students) that obviously worked out but the most they had to do of an evening was lift semi-naked girls onto the bar to dance (could be worse). Prices cheap as this is the district of Arizona State University so plenty of students too. I do think we might have got lucky though as it was graduation week, but worth a go if you're in the area as if it's quieter you can get a 20 minute Uber (so easily available in the US) over to Scottsdale where the nightlife district is made up of a slightly older crowd.

There are many restaurants to choose from around Mill. Just park your car and walk to find what you like.

One of the BEST walkable area in PHX metro to hang out in. We just moved here from ABQ's Best Loft (Most walkable Area ((NOB HILL)) University District) where lived in a Top rated modern loft (20 Mill shared by 25 residents). So we feel right a home in the Mill Ave district. Your choice of 50-60 restaurants, bars, night clubs to try out. Great transportation with the light rail. Plenty of parking garages are available. Lots of security officers all the time. A bar hoping FAV for our family.

Great place for students, place is usually busier in the evening time since the weather is nicer. Good place to walk around or jog.Tons of food choices! If you're a foodie, stop here first.

This is a great place to come check out if your a local or out of town. Of all ages and intrest.threes a little fun for everyone.many events take place all year long. With AS campus near also sspring break is also become a must come place.

Large number of casual eating places for the young and young at heart. Feels safe with a lot going on. It is next to ASU. Seems to be more upscale and clean than some college areas.

Mill avenue is always a lively spot! Try to avoid it during the hot summer months, although evenings are fairly tolerable even in August! Down by town lake it is much cooler, lots of pedestrians there. Excellent people watching! It is nice, to walk across the Mill Ave bridge and view the sunsets. No services at town lake but plenty on Mill Ave. Sometimes the bathroom are open, sometimes not. Occasionally there are homeless men hanging out in the grassy spots near town lake. Usually a good vibe down there though!

Mill Avenue in downtown Tempe has a distinct flavor that mixes Victorian architecture representing early Arizona settlement along with modern high-rise development. It is also adjacent to the main campus of Arizona State University and has a lot of small shops, bistros and restaurants with a real student vibe. This is a popular weekend getaway for young professionals who want to have a lively evening. And us older folk can enjoy it during the lunch hour on weekdays.

We did eat at 2 restaurants and went into several shops. There was a good selection restaurants to choose from, ranging from sports bar to fine dining. The shops were eclectic and diverse as well. It is a college town so most of the shops and dining options are geared to the college crowd, but none were pretentious or rude at all. Overall it was a pleasant experience and we would return.

The area is interesting and different and has a mix of old and new and many restaurants and bars that cater for the student crowd. Some of it is a little tacky but mixed is some interesting history and worth a look.

Maybe for an European traveller this is not a very exciting spot but in the urban sprawl of Tempe (itself part of the gigantic metropolis that Phoenix is), this is one of the few places, outside of the shopping malls, where you find a concentration of restaurants and other places to eat something, among them the unavoidable Starbucks but also some nice breweries (I liked particularly Gordon Biersch's), It is a walkable area with a college-like atmosphere (the ASU campus is nearby) and worth visiting. Sunday mornings that atmosphere may change a little bit for the worse due to the presence of a respectable number of homeless, drunkards or other sort of not so likable people, so beware!

My family and I decided to walk down Mill Street, around the University Drive area. The area is being improved and there are a lot of restaurants to choose from. One area of concern is the amount of homeless people in the area and people with mental health issues. While we were walking a subject came up behind us and started yelling very loudly at us for no reason and was making the motion of shooting people with his hand that he was walking behind. This was a little disturbing.

Great place to find a good meal and plenty of shops to brows as well. Very easy to walk around and navigate the area.

We always roam Mill Ave. when we come to visit ASU. Our favorite breakfast place is NCOUNTERS , we like the boutiques many fun resturants and ice cream places. There is something for everyone.

Boy, Mill Ave has changed a bit over the last 15 years. Used to be more shopping (affordable-type). Still poppin at night though.

You wanna see it. Go to mill. You want drink or eat it. Go to mill. Now it doesn't have something for everyone but if you wanna go out on a Friday night and be in it. Head that way.

Took my Mom for a walk through Mill Ave. Enjoyed the shops and the atmosphere of the area. Plenty of places for food and drinks.

Mill is an amazing place to sightsee, drink and eat! When me and my friends (ages 21-25) go out on the weekend this is usually where we venture off to. At night its a beautiful lake with bridges, airplanes overhead, and trains occasionally crossing. You can rent paddle boards, paddle boats, and other water vehicles on the lake for a fair price. I recommend it. I went swimming in it once, it wasn't the best decision i've made.

Hopping college town feel and a wide variety of places to eat and get a drink! That have street festivals occasionally, which makes it even better!

There many nice restaurants and cute boutiques in the Mill Ave.
there is a lot of energy and friendly people.

More people should have been wearing masks. There were too many people not following social distancing guidelines.

Lots of fun shops and restaurants. Easy to walk around. Plenty of parking but also easy access by light rail from the airport and/or Phoenix.

Took a new ASU student and her friends to see what the area had to offer. They loved the student vibe and I found there to be a number of restaurants I found interesting. Something for everything. In the evening there's a definite fun buzz on the streets.

I can compare this to Westwood. It's a great bar scene. The best thing is you can bar hop to tailgate before ASU games. Realize that is you have someone under 21 in your party you may not get into some places on game night. Very different crowd late at night. Not so family friendly, but good people watching.

Nice place to be at night. There are many great shops, restaurants, and pubs. At a few restaurants located here.

Excellent area that is well lit and has a beautiful holiday ambiance. Great to go spend some time with friends and family!

We wanted to find restaurants that had a lot of variety and it certainly found that on Mill Street! We also needed a place to relax after moving my son into his dorm room at ASU. Mill Street is close to issue and I could see college students hanging out. The area was buzzing with activity and it made it harder to find a place to park, but that was the only downside. I suggest going when it is not during dinner hour.

This is a great place for a lunch time stroll. Get a little exercise and when the mood strikes there are lots of options for non-franchise dining.

Went here at night after a great meal and really enjoyed strolling and people watching and shopping.
This is a fun area...when in Tempe you should visit.

Downtown Tempe was a really pleasant surprise for me. It has a great feel to it - very open and bustling. There are a couple of brewpubs and many other bars and eateries. An arts cinema and regular movie theater, ceramics research center, along with many stores, and some great street art too (look for the Three Blacktail Jackrabbits and Phoenix sun sneakers, to name but two).
A great place for an evening out.

Nice mall to stroll thru, good selection of stores and eats, clean and didn't observe any security issues, will visit again

Fun at all times but several times a year, Mill St is closed and it and adjoining streets are closed as they host the Tempe Arts Fair, a lively collection of hundreds of booths with wares that run to the extremes. There are musicians and the ever-present food vendors to round out the experience. Mark it down in your calendar-big fun!

This Mill Ave is in the center of Tempe. There is a lot of bars, restaurants and shops here. Also theaters.

It is a fun district to visit because there are so many cute shops in the area and Tempe Town Lake is within walking distance, but the parking is absolutely terrible and if you're going in the evening to catch a quick meal at a place such as Five Guys for example, forget about trying to find a parking spot. My biggest problem that I have with the Mill District, I know this may sound terrible, but the homeless population. I feel bad because of their situation, but they do not understand the word no. I had a gentleman with a sign that had said he was hungry and needed money for food, I offered him a meal, denied and said he wanted money instead. If it wasn't for that it would be a great place!

Tons of restaurants. Lots of bars. Good shopping. The annual craft fair is super cool. Great opportunity to get cool holiday loot.

Downtown Tempe area is vibrant, dynamic, fun and exciting. Great events, awesome restaurants, cool public spaces, good transit system, diverse culture combine to make the area an amazing place to live, work and play

There are so many different stories and restaurants there, and so far...they're all amazing! There's unique little stores too! Stores you'll love! I would definitely suggest visiting here for more than 1 day! Definitely don't want to miss this street!! Day and night!

For those of you new to the Phoenix area, or just visiting, this little grotto of collegiate and retail shops, bars and restaurants is sure to catch your eye, as you walk along the tree-lined Mill Avenue that offers up some shade during those hotter AZ days! Lots of fun for every member of the family...there's sure to be something for them all!

This area has everything! Interesting and unique shops, lots of great culinary options, although I would have loved seeing more local-type fare and fewer chain-types. Also a ton of ASU-student energy and bars that cater to that "energy!"

Lots of places to eat and plenty of people to people watch! Always some fun activity is going on here for college students and others to enjoy. :)

Great place to take a stroll and shop boutiques, enjoy a date night dinner, take in some music/ dancing, a movie, ice cream shops, cupcake shops, paletas and more. Only downside- Friday and Saturday evenings can get a little overrun by the college crowd- kids passed out on benches and puke on the sidewalks, groups of drunken bar crawlers. Highly suggested for daytime or weekday evenings.

If you enjoy shopping, eating or drinks... this is the spot. Located next to ASU and heart of Tempe this downtown, tree lined area is for you!

You won't be bored if you come here for some nightlife. So many bars to choose from. Drink specials galore.

I stumbled upon this district while searching google for restaurants near my hotel. It was a short train ride from my hotel with a cluster of interesting and well rated restaurants so my friend and I headed out.
The crowd on the street was eclectic, spanning all age groups though heavy on the college-aged crowd. The atmosphere was electric and festive and that Saturday night and the vibe was excellent. The area just begged to be explored, which we did before finally settling on our restaurant (separate review) which rounded out the experience.
In the future if I stay nearby I'll attempt to see what the area has to offer by day. Highly recommended.

Mill Ave has an attractive and functional layout...it simply works and it is an important social element for ASU and Tempe, in general.

Nice Shops. A lot of homeless people. Accessible transportation. Lots of banks and restaurants. Cool shops. Traffic sucks

Good good food place to visit numerous Nightclub Dependable public transportation good sense of security with police always around

I like areas like this, filled with quant, interesting shops, used book sotores, restaurants, art galleries and antique stores. Whenever I am in this area, I enjoy spending an hour or two checking out my favorite stores and looking for just the right present for my wife.

Milk offers a diverse mix of people and business with something to offer everyone. I enjoy it because it is clean and everyone seems friendly. Always on our list of places to go when we visit our daughter at ASU.

I would have given this a four, but the parking is terrible around here. Also, the summer months makes this unbearable to walk and just sit out and enjoy your food, park, etc. In the winter, this area is really nice. Then you have to deal with the university students during the academic year. I would definitely go at least once during the cooler climate, but understand the parking, traffic, and students makes this area a bit tiresome.

Great place to visit during college tour. Little shops along the way. Food, drinks, candy, clothing it is all available walking distance. We enjoyed going in and out of the shops in the afternoon and would stop in all the cute little beer gardens for a toast with friends. Enjoy watching and talking with other folks that are also visiting too. Highly recommend good walking shoes, and nothing with heals. A bit heavy on the feet and the pavement gets warm too. You can find much of your university clothing here too and save a bit of cash instead of buying on the campus site.

We came to the Mill Avenue District to have a few beers and get some dinner.
There were a lot of bars, restaurants, and shops to choose from. Most of the bars and restaurants have outdoor patio seating.
There is some street parking, but there are also some parking ramps.

I took my daughter to the Mill Avenue area in June while looking for a place to stretch our legs after dinner back in June. It's a very trendy shopping and dining area with a great vibe due to its proximity to Arizona State University, which is just a few blocks away. Lots of restaurants, stores and bars in the area. Great place to walk around and just enjoy the energy.

Several times a year, Mill St is closed and it and several adjoining streets are closed as they host the Tempe Arts Fair, a lively collection of hundreds of booths with wares that run to the extremes. There are musicians and the ever-present food vendors to round out the experience. Worth the trip!

I spent new years 2017 and it was fun, people were very nice, restauramts were amazing. The Christmas tree was still lit and looked beautiful at night.me and my friends had an amazing time

We visit Mill Ave when in town visiting our ASU student. There are so many places to eat and drink. Great district.

Places are crazy, prices a bit high, glasses- not quite clean enough-great for ASU students. Variety of food available - few shops- misters all over for the super hot days. Had fun with my son there but would not go with my husband

Good place to visit located near Arizona State University, Tempe. Varieties of excellent restaurants are there. Good place to eat lunch and dinner.

I love college towns, but Mills Avenue was a little too Mardi Gras for me. 10 PM on a Saturday and there were 21 year olds drunk stumbling down the street on every block. I had heard good reviews of Mill Avenue prior to visiting Tempe but it was a little too much for me.

If you are in the area it is a good place to shop, drink and eat. Lots of nice shops. Something for everyone

I do not go here during the summer, it's just too hot. The rest of the time is great though. It sometimes reminds me of some of the streets in Europe's cities were everyone is on foot. Even though it is in the heart of Arizona State University, you still see people of many ages walking among the many bars and restaurants. You may have to park and pay maybe around 2 bucks an hour and then just hoof it where ever you wand to go. I always enjoy Mill Ave.

If your new to Arizona and are staying around the Tempe/ASU area, Mill Ave has the restaurants and entertainment district all on one street. Easy parking, access to light rail and near highways. Great place for happy hour or night out...

The Mill Avenue District is convenient to folks visiting Tempe. It is the shopping/dining area closet to Arizona State Universty and the municipal center. Whether you are seeking fast food, pub fare, or fine dining you will find it here. I enjoyed the Boa restaurant for lunch and dinner, the Phonecia Cafe for Middle Eastern dish and a few ice creameries and frozen places for desert. Grab an ice cream and wander down to the River Walk and relax. Play or people-watch.

My daughter and I visited the area and had lunch. Lots of restaurants and not enough stores, as I was hoping. It's close to ASU and other entertainment areas if you are looking for some great restaurants and a place to watch a game. Lots of restaurants but, not a lot of shopping as I was hoping for some cute local stores.

We had fun at Mill Avenue prior to the Cal-Arizona College Football game Sept. 2016.
Its a happening place with good food and drink. The fans and people there were enthusiastic and enjoying the "football party" atmosphere.
Of course, its a good place to go for a meal or drink if one is in the Arizona State University other times too.

If you're in the area during the Tempe festival of the arts, make sure you stop by. Get a variety of artists all in one place.

Lots of shops and restaurants, take time out to give yourself a nice afternoon,w walking around and visiting all the shops. There are lots of eateries and all serve good food
This place is very popular with the university students and has lots of bars and places to hang around at night

Don't miss the jack rabbit scavenger hunt. You can pick up a map and a list of clues at the tourism office of find it online. There are 14 rabbit statues hidden along Mill Ave and the neighboring streets. My daughters had the best time running around hunting down all the rabbits. Bonus, it's free!!

I’ve been to Mill Ave a few times now, a couple with my girlfriend and others with friends, which this is a good place for both. While this is a well known college district, there are people here of all age ranges and places that cater to almost all groups. This is not just all dance clubs, there’s some good breweries with tasty micro brews, a piano bar, Irish pub and high end restaurants/bars. So there’s a little something for everyone. Some places do have a dress code and many have no dress code. If you’re not into the frat boy scene, I’d recommend not going the night of sporting events at ASU, as they all pour out here following the games.

This area is right next to the ASU Tempe campus so it is always bustling. One end starts at Tempe Town Lake and goes several block to the south end of ASU campus. Many shops, restaurants, and a movie theater. Easy to walk to from anywhere on ASU campus.

Lots of interesting restaurants with outdoor seating and music. This area is lively and a fun place to spend a night out.

I love Mill Ave! There are so many restaurants and bars in the area as well as shopping and ASU's football stadium. Even when it's hot in the summer, the restaurants and bars have misters outside to help keep cool. There are so many different things to do and it's always a good time if you like the bar scene.

Lots of restaurants and pubs and cool shops. Old book store and ice cream. A few head shops blend in with this cool vibe area for young adults and visitors.
Short walk from the AC Hotel by Marriott in Tempe.

Tempe is a college town. Yes a big city, but this area is a college town. Bars, bars and restaurants dot the Mill Ave District. Great happy hours, good food (many styles to choose from), people having a good time well into the evening. Only downer, parking very hard to find and the meters work until 8pm. But I still go every time I am in Tempe. Try it you'll like it.

For people of all ages Mill Ave is a cool place to get a drink and mingle. Lots of different restaurants, bars and everyone's favorite, college kids. Haha. It makes for a lot of free entertainment.

Movie theatre, places to eat and drink. Nice and clean area. Walk from place to place. Movie theatre has recliners.

Mill Avenue is directly in the heart of ASU. It's great for younger crowds and for nightlife activities.

Awesome place for partying, family & show visitors. Great outdoor bars & restaurants. So many places to shop and eat need a few days to see it all. One of my favorite places to just hang out and have a good time no matter what you are in the mood for in a weekend.

College town. Fri sat packed with lots of girls in short shorts, lines, dance clubs, music, open restaurants. Sinner savers carrying crosses etc. We went to a bar w live music the shady pine or something. Lots of higher end shops now. They took the zia records out of there. I didnt see buffalo exchange...but? I didnt really look except where it was years ago. If your trying to make fast friends this is the place to hang out. & the bridge is so cool at night.

We went to this area for some unique shopping stores but didn't find very much. Most of the area is restaurants and bars. Probably a great place for young college kids to hang out.

Always a good time on Mill Ave. Lots to do for all ages and great places to eat. Highly recommend Fuzzy's Taco Shop! Food is amazing and reasonable and the margaritas are huge for $5! Cafe Boa is a more upscale place if you're looking for something nice. Great food, nice atmosphere. Also Tempe Arts Center is nearby and has a nice facility and be sure to check out an ASU game.

Mill Street is wall to wall bars and restaurants with some shops interspersed. Pleasant walking. Plan for lots of stops.

I expected a lot more from a street like this near a large campus. Nothing at all to do with maybe a couple of decent restaurants. No reason to return - or really to go in the first place.

Great shops and restaurants line Mill Ave., and it ends at the amazing Tempe Town Lake. Located right next to ASU, the energy and vibe is palpable.

Variety of places to dine & socialize for night life. Near ASU campus. Well light & security is present.

Mill Avenue offers a great mix of retail, restaurants and bars. I guess I fit into the 'senior' category but I still love the vibe and eclectic nature of this area. It's definitely worth visiting. Try to visit during the Tempe Festival of the Arts held on Mill Avenue in early December.....so much going on!

Excellent selection of eating places, being the center of town. Most popular place. This place comes alive on week ends. It was fun during Thanks giving week. Feel as if the entire town has congregated there.

Tempe town lake is a great park to just chill at or take a walk. You can rent a paddle boat, kayak, or take a tour on a boat to learn the history of Tempe Town Lake. Downtown Tempe has wonderful restaurants, coffee houses, and little shops. If coming to Tempe, you must take time to visit the park, lake, and eat outdoors at one of our restaurants on Mill.
If you are interested in running or power walk, the trail around the lake is perfect. You can walk/run around the full lake approx. 6 - 7 miles or as long or short as you like. Once done, there are excellent breakfast places down Mill or close by. I would suggest snooze or N-counter.
Excellent view of the Arizona sunrise and sunset. Just a reminder, it hot in Tempe May - September, early or late visits are best during that time. All other months visit anytime.

Mill Avenue has movie theatres, shops, bars and restaurants. I usually go here to watch a movie at Harkins Valley Art or AMC. For inexpensive food, you can try Munchies Cafe or Slices. There are some street parking spaces though I remember parking just once in this area at a paid parking space near the Tempe City Hall. Walking around Mill Avenue is just OK, I guess. Even at night when the street lighting is not that bright, I think, you can see many people here... some of them having drinks at bars along Mill Avenue.

Really lovely time in March on Mill Avenue for the Festival of Arts. Terrific walking district with LOTS of restaurants, bars and shopping.

...it probably isn't in Phoenix. Tons of bars, restaurants, indoor seating, outdoor seating, window shopping, eye candy...you get the picture. Great place to unwind after a long day of business or whatever else brought you to Phoenix.

This may not the best way to judge the district, but we went during the art festival weekend and is my only exposure to the area. I thought the area and restaurants were great as well as the convenience of it being right on the light rail line!

Go to supper at PF Chang's or Rula Bula or any of the other restaurants now down town. On Wednesday night, after supper, go listen to open mike at the Tempe Center for the Arts. Then, include walking across the pedestrian bridge at the Tempe Center for the Arts. This can all make for a very pleasant evening out.

This area is really nice to just take a walk in. There are many restaurants and stores along the way.

So many bars, so little time. Mill avenue is a fun 4 or 5 block area next to ASU campus chocked full of fun bars, music and food. It can be pretty crazy on a ASU football weekend so plan accordingly. Just enjoy, partake and observe. You will have a great time.

Mill Ave Rocks, especially around Halloween, they block off a lane of traffic and those dressed in costume parade back and forth. Bars are lively and relatively inexpensive compared to some other areas of town.

Mill Street is pretty awesome - for real. You can find whatever you desire on it. If you were looking to do shopping, go to the movies, go to a bar, or get some breakfast ... Mill Street has all of that and more. I particularly liked how the City of Tempe and Arizona State has blended the city's entertainment district with the school itself. I did not necessarily like the amount of panhandlers and homeless people asking for money ever so often, but what can you do. Also, be aware of occasional drunk people too. However, great place to hang overall. It is a cool place to visit because it does have pretty much everything you need.

Though most of the establishments are now corporate you can still shop local - check out the smaller shops. Do not waste time searching for parking on Mill unless you feel super lucky. The lot next to the lite rail is best.
Hike A Mountain...you cannot miss it,check out tempe Town lake, the workings of the former flour mill...take a nice stroll

Typical college town. I would not say it was like Old Town Scottsdale. There were lots of restaurants and only a few stores. It seemed that many of the shops were about smoking. We did eat and the Mellow Mushroom and that was great and they had some good happy hour specials.
Parking was about $2-4 dollars an hour.

Exceptional selection of restaurants, pubs, bars and clubs. ... good shopping (sportswear stores, fashion clothing and varsity fashions ) 0n street metered parking. Late nite shopping. Great people watching. ....

Fun met with friends on spring training with sisters had a good time visiting all the shopping centers on Mill Avenue visited restaurants visited dance clubs have fun great time lots of energy excitement definitely looking forward to going there

Drove all around this area. College graduation, so crowded. Lots of good people watching. Lots of restaurants and bars too.

This is a fun place to visit. There are a number of restaurants where you can eat outside and enjoy the beautiful sunshine. Cute clothing shops caught my daughter's attention.
There was a fun store that sold "lotions and potions" to cure everything from a bad mood to karma sutra body oils!

A lot of shops, restaurants and things to see. Great to just walk around or spend a night on the town.

This is a beautiful urban setting to enjoy sights, food and shop. The establishments found in the area are a mix of different cuisine and culture affordable to the university population and the tourists too.

This place is really nice if you are looking to have some fun at night and enjoy among really cool looking people. The place gets busy and is open till 2am ..

Mill is the perfect street for when you don't know what you want to do...offering a plethora of restaurants, clubs, bars, activities, and more, Mill really encapsulates the culture of Arizona. Conveniently situated on the west border of the Arizona State University campus, there is no shortage of things to do or see in the area. Parking typically isn't a problem, but can get a little difficult on Fridays and weekends. The street is also home to a lot of fun things that make Tempe unique, like their Christmas parade and art festival. Overall, a trendy, hip, fun place to spend an hour or a day!

Plus some shopping but not much. Definitely geared towards the university crowd. Street parking is expensive - $.25 for 8 minutes.

Wow! Mill Avenue has really grown up! Where it historically catered to college students, it now is inviting to all walks of life. Cool shops and excellent food!

First I have to say that one of the employees came out to help us get our credit card out of the parking meter. He loaned us a pliers and was going to call a city office if we could not get it out. We did but then needed quarters for the meter. As soon as he saw me come back into the restaurant he said, "I bet you need quarters" and immediately gave me some for my five. After such kindness we decided to eat there for lunch and we were not disappointed. We had the thick crust pizza and it was delicious! We were very thankful for their food and great kindness in helping us with our jammed credit card.

Area was ok to visit. I didn't feel to safe in the evenings as there were a lot of homeless and 'party' people about. Not much to do either other than eat and drink. Nice and clean though 😀

Mill Avenue is the historic district of arts and culture in Tempe. It's got restaurants, bars and authentic Arizona shops galore - so it's perfect for happy hour, dinner, day time shopping or a fun night out. Tempe beach park is walking distance from Mill avenue and is great for families, and has a ton of great concerts and events.

The life & vibrancy is definitely in the Mill Ave corridor! All sorts of restaurant options & sports bars....

Saturday at 9 PM and hardly a soul to be found. What gives I ask my Grandson, a Junior at ASU Engineering, as we walked along Mill Avenue, why the persistent smell of urine on certain street corners? Can't this be hosed away? We were going to a late screening of Blade Runner 2049 but had about 20 minutes to kill so were eager to discover the new and unknown. My wife, daughter and granddaughter ignore us and turn into a Head Shop to look at scarves, assorted paraphernalia and incense. We realize they went AWOL and turn back to catch them. After 10 minutes or so we leave the store with brown paper bags in hand and step back onto Mill Avenue toward the Movie Theater. We get distracted by a small, but vocal, gathering of young people in front of a Bar/Restaurant., with nothing better to do than hang out. The show starts in 5 minutes Zachary says - We need to step it up. After the show, the street scene was a lot more chaotic due to all the inhabitants now populating the street. "Big change huh?" Zachary asks. "Not so much", I say...I can still smell the urine!

We enjoyed a nice walk up and down South Mills Avenue. A great assortment of unique shops, fun restaurants and bars. Enjoy a delicious nosh and coffee at Proof Bread along the way. Everything in this district is so clean and inviting. The vibe of the ASU students makes this area very vibrant.

I've driving to University and Mill several times to enjoy the many dining options during a couple of business trips. The crowd is an eclectic mix including college students from ASU. The downside is that there is a college bar scene vibe that may or may not be what you want. Limited free parking, so plan on paying for it.

There's a good college vibe going in the area but there's enough retail and restaurants to keep it accessible. Parking is a bit of a challenge - if you are lucky you get the street, otherwise there are large parking decks that charge by the hour.
The trees that overhang the streets keep it cool enough and there's a wide variety of shops and restaurants to find anything you like.
There are quite a few vagrants throughout - while most were friendly, some where not especially later at night. They were always gathered outside 5 guys and CVS.

Birthday Excursion had to dinner at Cafe Boa if you're going to the Escape Zone Arizona had a great time

While visiting the campus at Arizona State University we happened upon the very busy Mill Avenue.
Lots of restaurants, pubs, and places to have a brew.
We enjoyed our afternoon and were impressed by all the "young" people having a good time.

Mill avenue has many good choices good choices for food and drink. Nice places to watch Saturday College football!

…but a bit too many pan handlers makes it a bit uncomfortable at times - no respite from them.
Ned Fresh is a great place to eat and there is a Starbucks. The homeless take away 2 stars! Outside of that a great hangout place.

Loved walking down Mill Street. I always stop at the Hippy Gypsy head shop to buy the Asian wall hanging sheets for bedspreads. I'm not your typical head shop shopper but I do like the colorful sheets for bedspreads - $35. Nice people. There was also a new spa opening and they invited guests it for free appetizers and make-up refresh. It was lovely. Hipster and hippy vibe in the area. Lots of pan-handlers but they're nice about it. Lots of restaurants and brew pubs. Fun place.

The Mill Avenue District of Tempe, AZ, borders Arizona State University. Mill Avenue itself is a fun collection of shops, restaurants and art museums. The museums are closed each Monday. It’s a pet-friendly area but not exactly wonderful for children. Close to the Zoo and Botanical Gardens.

Your average run of the "Mill" (pun intended lol) college town. Always something going on. Great eateries and boutiques.Lots of Dessert places if your looking to get your sugar fix.

It was close to our hotel so we walked to Starbucks, ordered take out, and felt very safe knowing the city took precautions to enforce masks in every establishment. Social distancing was always honored.

Shopping, food, drink and an absolutely wonderful shoe store are to be had on mill street. Pita jungle is a fine choice for s meal. You can wander around the old flour mill or hike up A mountain. You can catch the trolley from here as well. Parking can be tricky.

Tempe is such a clean enjoyable city, especially Mill Ave District where there are lots of restaurants and bars. From Pedal Haus Brewery Restaurant to Pita Jungle, we enjoyed the food and energy everywhere we went, all within close walking distance.

I have lived in AZ for many years. Mill Ave. has been up and down. I think it is the best it has ever been right now. So many cool restaraunts and bars. Some of the old iconic Mill Ave shops are still there. It is really a good time.

We have lived in Tempe for the last 30 plus years, it has been improved in a good way for the most part, but miss some of the old character. Yes, it's always has been a party street,(and now we are older :)) but it seems like most places are sort of the same as the next place. With the exception of a few places-the Chuck Box (not on Mill Ave), Valley Art Theater, & Those Were The Days book store. That being said, we do enjoy some of the newer places and have must visits when on Mill Ave-Fat Tuesday for one, Shady Park, & Pita Jungle. We usually only go to Mill ave during festivals, events, or staying at a hotel close by because we don't want to deal with where and how much it will be to park.

Several of us had a nice walk around this area as we waited for an ASU womens basketball game to begin. Some interesting people watching and several places to eat and drink

I’m not sure what I was expecting after reading reviews and tour guides but it’s a street of restaurants and the odd store. We walked up one side and down the other and it was nothing special.

This is a great place to walk around and check things out. Lots of night life and so many different types of restaurants you'll have a hard time choosing. Fast food to sit down and spend a lot and everything in between, lots of desert place as well. Places to go dancing and places to listen to bands, a must visit place if your in the area!

Lots of places to eat and drink, look for the locally owned establishments - support local. Check out Hayden Flour Mill and A Mountain

This is a college hang out ... very few shops. Mainly cheap fast food and drinking holes. There was a smell that discourages eating. This would be fun if you were an ASU student or going to game but otherwise avoid.

Loved walking around this square specially during this summer. Has a lot of trees and shaded areas, restaurants, and colorful streets. And the AMC centerpoint theater has reclining chairs. Oh and the lightrail stop is right there !

The Mill Avenue District is located in Downtown Tempe. Great area full of bars, restaurants and entertainment. If you live in the metropolitan area the light rail stops at the District. Jolly Chriss.

From art and craft fairs ,,to holiday ,,meet ups and planned attractions ,,this is the place to be ,,,and the area has a college vibe,,,and is always full of life ,,,clean artistic ,,wonderfull weather ,,,great selection of food ,,,a trip to Phx area is not with out ,,a fun day at mill avenue ,,,exspecially if an event is on ,,I’ve never been disappointed ,,,fun fun fun !

Mill ave. is the place to go on the weekends. There are so many different bars to choose from everyone of your friends will have a great time.

Best is to find a parking place and walk the entire district, I won't tell you where I park, so I can still get a place there. So many different area there from little art galleries, to bars and more bars and more bars. Great place to people watch, second only in the east valley to Old Town Scottsdale.

We were staying near by to attend a course at AZU business school. We were on Mill street several nights. Some cool local places, some Brit pubs, lots of students and good vibe.

Plenty of shops, food, and party places here. If you can't find something here to like or do you've probably got one foot in the grave. With ASU so close you'll be surrounded by the college crowd, but that adds to the experience, even for a 50something. The head shop brings back some old memories for sure.

Great place to wonder around and find neat little shops. I don’t recommend it at night unless you are with a group and enjoying night life.

Had a blast! Great restaurants and many clubs and bars. If you enjoy a night on the town, Mill Ave. is the place to be!

Nice little town or area, the light rail gets you there and lots of nice bars and restaurants and I barely saw any litter, there's a river near by nice to walk up and the botanical gardens is close by

So much to choose from. Restaurants, clothing shops, movie theater, sports events or broadway show. High energy being so close to ASU. Lots of variety in restaurants. Lots of parking lots.

We went to Tempe for a family vacation. Mill Street has tons of restaurants, shops, escape the room etc. The parking is the only downsize you have to pay except on Sunday’s. Our Air BNB was right down the road and they have a free transit so we used that a lot it was very convenient. Night life is amazing, all the bars we went to had no cover charge. Lots of college students but “old people” like us still had a great time. Tempe is now our favorite city in Arizona.

I love the Mill Ave distict. It's my husband's and my favorite thing to do on a Saturday evening especially in the spring and fall. I love taking the light rail and not having to worry about parking if there is an event going on. Just walking the streets at night on the strip with all the people is fun to do and go thru some of the shops. Then we love picking a place to stop in and eat at. It's just a fun, interesting night out. The camaraderie can be fascinating as well.

I moved here 13 years ago and this is the most busy part of Tempe. This is college town and it's swarming with people from ages 16-30. There are tons of bars and restaurants in the area and it's by the town lake. There is also homeless people that hang down by the streets asking for money.

Realize that Mill Avenue is just down the street from ASU, so it is considered a College Town. Lots of places to shop, eat and drink. Don't miss the Art Fairs, they happen a couple times a year and are the best in AZ.

This district is amazing. Lots of great shops and restaurants. There's something for everyone. A fun, trendy, and safe environment.

I guess if your into the nightlife party thing it would be better. For taking some time out to just look light shop or explore we did not care for it. Too hard to park even remotely close. Forget trying to drive though or down the main road. Homeless hang out and I can see its hard to police them. Difficult to find anything priced reasonable...I guess the location costs drive that. Avoid during rush crowd times as it gets really loud and very hard to get seated. Very cool feel architecturally and lots of restaurant choices.

Busy and loud at night. Swarming with college age kids being rowdy if you like that kind of thing. Glad we didn't bring our children down at night. Make that VERY glad.

only spent a couple hours on Mill Ave but really enjoyed it. Very clean and safe and lots of fun. Very lively, great shops and restaurants. Next time we will spend more time here.

Mill Ave is the "Go-to" place in Tempe. With great dining options and entertainment, it's always packed with ASU students at night.

You can be yourself on Mill and you will see almost everything. 70,000 college students from around the world are frequent visitors along with tourists from every country on the planet make The Mill District a very unique place to visit. A fun place to visit with many upscale and simple food places to eat all within walking distance.
It can be somewhat crowded at times and you need to be aware of yourself and your surroundings when walking as some people walk fast and or they are on mobile “birds” scooters etc and some people you are not sure if they are mentally “right”.
But for the most part if you are visiting Tempe The Mill district is a must see. Fun to go solo — safer to go with a friend.
I would be hesitant to bring children under he age of ten for any length of time. An hour visit or quick stroll or meal would be fine, but I would not stay long and or late with younger kids.

I have been coming here for years. I loved it because of the college town feeling. Now older I went downtown the other day after visiting a friend in Tempe and it is a whole new place. Such nice restaurants it has really been built out nicely. I do miss the little stores that sold odd things. Now the river is full. I took. A ride around the campus and they have done great things

After rowing on Tempe Town lake Mill Ave is a great place to stop for lunch or a beer! Or anything else that you would want to eat--there is great variety in all budgets. Don't miss House of Tricks if you are looking for a first class dinner or one of the local pubs for a quick snack. Easy to walk, a few fun shops and good food. The best time of year is, of course when the weather cools down--look for ASU game days and seasonal art fests. Mill Ave always has a monthly event for area visitors and residents. Don't miss Beach Park for a little art.

Mill Street is the hub of so many of the dining, shopping, and entertainment opportunities in Tempe. It's great to walk the blocks and just see all that's going on. Choose from dozens of restaurant choices, entertainment from dancing, to karaoke, to live music. Go shopping or play some billiards. All is very possible, and lots of fun, on Mill Street!

Enjoyed the experience. Weather perfect, cool for Phoenix. Sunny. Watch the traffic. Everyone thinks they should be first.

Very , very nice town. Shopping and restaurants were absolutely fabulous! Very accommodating and wonderful service!

We stopped one morning and had breakfast near by. I would love to return for dinner and drinks! Maybe even stay nearby instead of in Scottsdale. Loved the area! Very walkable!

We took the kids here for shopping, dinner, and sightseeing. It was super fun during the day with lots of places to pop into. It’s less family-friendly after dark when the bar crowd descends and the panhandlers come out. It’s a great way to leisurely kill and hour or two. I recommend the candy store!

By Arizona standards, Mill Ave. is great. There really isn't another area in the Phoenix metro, outside of a couple small spots in downtown Phoenix, that offers quite the variety of shopping, food and local culture that Mill Ave. has. The local college scene is strong here with a generally younger vibe to most attractions and many students filling the streets and venues during the Spring and Fall. Tempe Beach Park is at the north end with some great parks and biking/walking areas. Whether you want to eat, exercise or sit around and people watch, Mill Ave is a great place to visit!

The area is crowded during the night with people looking for entertainment, fun, drinks and hanging out with friends. There are plenty of places to eat, drink, dance and party! There are some events in this area yearlong, so just check what is next.

Great walking area. Theater shows movies that are not available in mainstream theaters. Many great food options up and down the avenue. Easy to get to.

Variety of restaurants/bars and unique shops line the streets. If you've been to Pearl Street in Boulder it's the same idea.

The shops and bars are geared toward college age kids. My husband and I did not find anything of interest to us.

Spent a few hours walking around exploring Mill St. One interesting place after another. This street has many unique spots to eat and drink. Refreshing since there are typically so many chains and franchise places to eat and drink here. This street is charming, shaded and has a small town feel. Lots of Happy Hours!

WHat a great place to spend your day.
great selections of shops, eateries
take your time and enjoy your time
LOVED IT

It’s a lively street, pretty typical large college district with mixture of restaurants, eclectic shops and smoke shops, bookstores. Arizona gives it a little western flavor, but overall fun street similar to other big college campuses. Can spend a little time and the in nice weather walking around.

Cool area filled with shopping, restaurants, bars, and art. Easily found parking. Once parked, you can walk everywhere you need to go. Family enjoyed the visit. Plenty of good places just to hang out.

I have enjoyed strolling down Mill Ave day or night. There are many fun and interesting shops to see. There are several food places, too. Still have several things to check out there and it easy to get to by way of light rail if you live near a station. The worst thing about Mill Ave is the parking. It is hard to find. Many of the parking meters require you to put money in all the way up to 10 pm. There is also max parking time of 2 or 3 hours, can't remember which. I love Mill Ave, though, and luckily I can take the light rail there. The light rail costs $4 for a full day. (If you are 65 or older or under 18 that is cut in half).

Mill Avenue is really a beer hop for ASU students and it's overrun with street people begging. There is easy access via light rail and bus service. Parking is a bit high. The AMC Theater is a great value. Tickets for current movies are just $5.49 USD each before 4 pm and only $8.49 USD each after. They have large reclining seats and free refills from the freestyle soda machines. The Steak N Shake has great food and service and is pretty cheap for a meal on MiIll Ave. There is a Firehouse Subs hidden by the Wells Fargo bank. It is clean and has good service. The old flour mill is cool to check out but you can't go inside. The real attraction is hiking "A" mountain. Not for the faint of heart! ALWAYS bring plenty of cold water when trekking in the valley whether on the trails or down the streets.

Always a fun place to be at night. Great atmosphere with great pubs and restaurants.
Haven't had a dull night out here yet!

Tempe and Mesa are both beautiful to see, lots of shops, restaurants etc if you like walking, busses are available and so is the train which was great for us as we didn't get a car. Good food, interesting people.

We have had a few walks through and around the place - there is a lot to do and see. The various shops have friendly staff and most anything you want is here

Let's see you really can't go wrong by visiting this area! There are more restaurants and bars for even the most finicky palate. Easy to get around make sure you explore the side streets lots of hidden gems to explore. It is a college area and we where there on a weekend and it was very busy. One nice thing was the fact that whenever we had a question on where to go or what to do everyone that we met could not have been more helpful.

Yep, just OK. MAD is nice and improving with many new building-development activities and the excellent light-rail system but why not? ASU = Tempe's lifeblood is a mega-buck mega-size school so such is expected...therefore, just OK. We roamed over Tempe (all of Tempe by car) for 3 days. We found nothing about Tempe that got a "wow"...just OK. Tempe Marketplace on McClintock was far superior to Mill Ave. District for shopping, dining and entertainment in Tempe unless you are looking for the comradery of drunk boisterous frat inhabitants. Next.

The Mill Ave district consists of many blocks of very cool shops, restaurants and bars on the campus of Arizona State University. Extremely walkable & convenient. Lots of fun!

If you can get down here easily I recommend stopping in and finding a great place to eat then go for a walk along the lake/river just north of Mill Avenue. Lots of restaurants, fun shops and plenty of people to watch. Eat your dinner, get some ice cream and go for a walk along the waterfront for a perfect evening.

Mill Avenue is a polygot of eateries of all kinds, from ice cream shops to top shelf gourmet dining, and everything in between, all within walking distance. There's even an old-fashioned candy store! When it's NOT 110 in the shade it's a great place to stroll around...and even when it is hot there are enough misters to provide a brief cool down for pedestrians. Parking is adequate, tho metered, and security is visibly present.

Great place to visit with the family anytime of the year but especially in the winter when the weather is so beautiful. Lots of activities.

OK, college town and you expect eclectic, vibrant eateries - etc. You get that, plus challenging parking and geared more toward tourists than the broke college students that were my mates when we "were there". Prices reflect that too.

The primary area we visited was approximately 3 blocks long and included both sides of the street. I would recommend this as a place to spend a couple of hours browsing the various shops and have lunch at one of the many eateries along the street.

If you are a foodie head for Mill Ave. Great variety of restaurants with most at a reasonable price. College area so lots of students enjoying a fun time. A few stores interspersed between the food havens. Parking can be tricky especially evenings and weekends.

We really loved one restaurant -- loco patron was excellent. And if you are staying near tempe, and plan on spending time in the mill ave. district, just stay at the tempe mission palms. it is the most convenient

I like the feel just to walk and enjoy what is around you. I find many fab restaurants in this area. I go there often when friends visit and get together with friends locally. I love the theatre at Gammage.

The most interesting part of the Valley of the Sun. This district used to be filled with historic properties, but most have given way to newer developments. Check out the old Valley Art movie theater, and the multiple restaurants, bars and shops.

Sundays between October- April or may local market, music some Friday nights, too many corporate owned establishments due to over priced rent
Check out the local brews, and a few locally owned places. Do not bother trying to drive on Mill Ave
Check out places near Hayden square and climb A Mountain

There is a wealth of things to do on Mill. Bars, fun clothing shops, Five Guys, the first Harkins Theater. The Light Rail has a stop at the end of Mill, so you can bypass the parking price and the trick of locating one.

Locals suggested we go here especially since the University was on summer break. They said you can't go here when school is on. A lot of shops and eating places here. It is hot here though in the summer. Okay to spend a few hours here.

I definitely know that I am in a college town when I am here because of all the college students, but the shops and restaurants support a widely varied clientele. I can enjoy a very nice dinner or something very casual. Many take reservations. There are tons of ethnic restaurants, too, which I love! I highly recommend coming here and checking out all the dining options then choose one. You will be back!

Interesting couple of blocks primarily consisting of restaurants with a few stores. It was very quiet around lunchtime but one could imagine it would be packed at night probably mostly by college students.

Fun location with lots of restaurants and bars. We went to the American bar, Dirk's Bentley and Low Key which is a dueling pianos bar. Younger crowds but, we had no problems. There is a lot of homeless around but, they did not bug us.

The Mill Avenue District offers all kinds of restaurants and bars for travelers. Felt safe walking in the evening.

Loads of street as well as lot parking. Lots of different stores to wander in and out of. When you get hungry, there is a host of choices to eat. From fast food, bar scene and higher prices, there is something for everyone. Since you are close to ASU, prices at most places tend to be more moderate.

If you can't find something to see, do, eat, or drink in this neighborhood, I don't know what to tell you.

We were there New Years eve and it was busy but safe. There are bands, bars with bands, quiet bars and restaurants, shopping movies, good parking.

This is a great street to go out on in Tempe Arizona. It is full of many bars, restaurants, dessert houses as well as other retail shop.
Don't miss El Hefe bar or Sparkys Creamery.

There are lots of burger, pizza, beer, and coffee places in this area, as well as shopping. I like Rehab burger (they can and do cook it medium rare--not all places can), while my husband likes Pedal Haus, and our daughter likes the boutiques.

Fantastic, a lot of places for having dinner or a drink and enjoy the evening in Phoenix with many kind of styles, music and colours.

Nice little street with a good variety of food and drink options. Close to campus and city park waterfront.

Famous and Historic road
Good for value shopping as well
Good for sone good food at wallet friendly price

Downtown Tempe and Mill Avenue was once a great place to go for dining, partying,
celebrating Sun Devil football or to just hangout. The movies were convenient downtown also. Mill Avenue District and downtown Tempe is not family friendly today. Lots of homeless people begging for handouts, laying all over the sidewalks and benches. The area has become a magnet for people of all ages with mental health problems. Lots of underage drunks in and out of the bars, as well. I would avoid Mill Avenue District.

Unfortunately, Mill St/downtown Tempe has turned out like many other downtowns of cities...losing shopping and have homeless people around. The last time I visited here was in the late 80's with my mom, and we ate at a Chinese restaurant on a side street, then went shopping on Mill Ave., in some of the boutique stores, that sold S.W. items, clothing and giftware. All that is gone now! My hubby and I put quite a bit of money in a parking meter, thinking we would be here awhile. Not so! There wasn't one shop that we went in, and we weren't there for a meal or drinks. There are enough places like that where visitors etc can get a meal. We decided just to walk the street, as we had driven from the very north end of Scottsdale to come here. At one area, we thought there was a festival going on, at a park, as there were tons of people. Then we saw a sign re getting spring training tickets for baseball at that certain location. I agree with others that the shopping is lame. The Visitor guide and online info re Tempe shouldn't show that Mill Ave. has shopping anymore!

Mill Avenue is the home of many nice restaurants and bars. If you are looking for a party at a Friday or Saturday night, you need to consider Mill Avenue as an option. It is one of the most popular districts for party lover college students.

Had the chance to check out Mill Ave without the crowds. So many places to stop and buy stuff or just look around. Alot of shops, restaurants and bars withen walking distance. Some of the photos of area's attached have to be looked for as the layout is complex and many stores are in alcoves.
Enjoy your search and have fun.

I took my mom to Mill Ave district on a sunny day in December. She enjoyed it immensely and we took our time strolling down to the Tempe Beach park and enjoyed a nice little lunch at La Bocca. No matter what your age, you'll be sure to find a little shop or eatery that will want to make you come back.

We walked all over the place , it was Fat Tuesday
Lots of noise, music, plenty of restaurants
Cute little hippy shops
Far to many vap shops , can't stand them
Easy to get a Uber ride there , plenty of lights
Lots of distractions ........ bars ,food, activity
Go to the low key piano bar ,it is the best

My hotel was next to this district. The restaurants were varied and good. Mill Avenue is a good street for walking and peopole watching. The ASU ceramics museum on 7th is very much worth a visit. There is a handy post office on Mill and 5th.

Been on Mill Ave for pleasure and work on and off since 1980. It has changed so much. Very corporate now. Appeared very clean. Busy busy busy.

Filthy area especially at night. Homeless arena surrounding city hall and lical parks. Make sure you get door codes to get bathroom access because homeless are kept from entering numerous buildings. Be prepared for urinating smells and these odors very obvious in stairwells and alleyways. Be prepared to be approached by some pretty ratty individuals seeking money for drugs and alcohol. Under very heavy development with numerous construction projects and with very heavy traffic clogged roads. If you are in college here and take classes on social economics then this is the place to learn. Very liberal city with LBGQT promotion through every facet of city government.

Mill Ave is the place to be before, during and after any ASU sporting event. Great restaurants feature all types of menu desired.
Shopping offers speciality items not often found any place in the valley.

Very up tempo feel... No question that you are on a college campus. Very unique shops and restaurants. Fun experience regardless of your age!

Rosebuds bath boutique is a must see! They have all of your skin, bath, shower needs covered plus some unexpected surprises. There is an entire wall of candles where you can choose up to 3 scents to blend and create your own one of a kind candle. The lovely girl working there was so kind and funny. She helped me to blend my two scents into a sentimental candle for my daughter. You are a part of the process from choosing your container, placing the wick, pouring and mixing the wax, and adding stickers to the finished product. They also have beautiful and inspiring jewelry. Thank you for making this place a highlight of our trip!!

need to mix small boutiques w bars, stop allowing big corp engulf local shops, more walking and biking areas

Great district to relax and have some grown up time with friends . Great food and bars. Great atmosphere to party.

I stayed at Tempe Mission Palms Hotel in this district. Their staff was not nice to me. The shops I went into in this district their store employees where rude and not nice to me either. I noticed everywhere I went the white people where treated nice, but not me. I don't recommend anyone going here.

The bars and restraunt s were great! Just chillin at any age! They have every thing for all your taste. Can be comfy dressed or casual!

Low Key Piano Par was top notch and a lot of fun. Spinellis had great pizza and Rula Bula was a has a great patio for food and drinks and a great Irish Menu!

Food-food-food! Great area to eat and drink. Many different types of restaurants. We went to a couple of different restaurants, our food was great and service was awesome.

Downtown Tempe has lots of restaurants and shops. Wonderful shoe store, the Shoe Mill. Downtown Tempe is in close proximity of a park and you can stroll along Tempe Town Lake. Arizona State University campus is nearby. Grady Gammage Auditorium where you might take in a wonderful play or concert. There are several hotels in the area, as well. AND the light rail close by that will take you in to PHX or Mesa. Oftern there are art and / or cultural festivals. Fun to walk around, grab a bite and something to drink. Sports stadium nearby, as well. Metered street parking available as well as paid parking in structures. Some businesses will validate parking.

The Mill Avenue district is a fun spot to explore when there is an event going on in the city or when school is in full session. There are lots of bars and restaurants along the way. The water is always nice to see in the desert. The Tempe festival of the arts which takes place in the first week in December and again in the spring is a perfect time.

Just happened to be in town for the semi-annual Mill Avenue Festival of the Arts. Fabulous artisans and vendors of all kinds. The stores and restaurants were participating with sidewalk sales and specials. Would really like to hit this event again in December. I recommend going if you find yourself in Tempe this coming December. Certainly you will find something special!

There's plenty of restaurants, bars, and snack places to try out. Just taking a walk along the sidewalk's with the trees lit up is a fun thing to do

loved the Mill Avenue district for the food/outdoor venues/ice cream and so much more to see just walking around .when the art fair is on 2x a year,, park for free at Dobson street and take train to Mill.. no hassle best price.

Downtown Tempe is losing its funky character due to the construction of tall corporate type buildings. But the area still has a charm to it, slightly bohemian and a lot of sunshine.

Mill Avenue district in Tempe is totally different from the rest of Tempe. Small and cozy structures with lots of trees and shaded sidewalks to walk on. Quaint shops and LOTS of places to eat. Most of the places have outside seating so that you can enjoy watching the goings-on while you eat. The stretch is very short and did not find any public space to hang out in however. You could go from University Ave till Rio Salado bridge to get an idea of Mill Ave district.

I always enjoy being around Mills. Walk down by the "lake" in the mornings is just so pleasant (especially in February). There is a nice variety of restaurants around the area. The one down side is that it is starting (at least that is my perception) to be more and more beggars which is just sad to see.

Love coming to mill Ave back in the late 90's on the corner of 6th and mill you could catch b boys break dancing, freestyling and just having a good time. You would even find people cruising in there cars. Nowadays it's more commercial which is fine. As a family man now we love coming to movies taking a nice walk enjoying the scene. More of a spring or winter spot we avoid it during the summer. But it's Arizona so it is what is..... hot!

You'll find eclectic shopping plus very upscale dining such as Cafe Boa to ethinic fun Rula Bula (Irish) and My Big Fat Greek Restaurant. Of course, there's the drink til you drop bars too. Trendy but more casual is La Bocca Urban Pizzeria + Wine Bar. Just east of downtown is the iconic House of Tricks, pricey but with a great happy hour at the outdoor bar. The Culinary Dropout west of downtown on Farmer has lots of parking, good variety of good food and a loud, rowdy game side plus more cozy and quiet side. Don't park at the Jack and the Box, even if you buy food there, if you walk down the street, the jerk owner will have you towed. Along with the alley behind Trails, another predatory parking area with cameras. Tow you in minutes. They get a cut of the fees. You can park at Tempe Library or on the street at Alameda and College and get a free Orbit bus to downtown. Just watch the time, they don't run late. But you can always Lyft back to your car.
Great place to run
This is just a general fun place to be. I use the excuse of running with friends and family to visit here at least once a week or so. I especially enjoy running during the evenings when it cools down a bit and I can see the reflection of the lights off the water ... so beautiful. They also sponsor some cool 5k and 10k runs here as well. Even if your'e not a runner...take a walk here sometime and see the tempe center for the arts....it's modern, fun, and there are some amazing music and theater there in a cozy intimate theater.
