We went early and thankful that we did that. The museum is so cool but it’s really small so it’s hard to maneuver if there are a lot of people there. The same thing with the tower climb. All in all it is a really cool place to visit.

Just so Beautiful and peaceful this time of year! Must go and See ! Be really careful driving to “The Point” lots of Deer on side of Road. Stop by Gurney’s to warm up. Love Montauk in the Winter.

We went up to the top of the lighthouse and it was worth it. The views are very beautiful Also the history in the museum area was very interesting. You may enjoy the views, or simply the history, regardless I recommend it.

Went there in winter, nothing was open but we could go for walks to the beach. Although it was in the middle of the day we didn’t see any other people in the area. The paths were beautiful and I am happy we went although the light house was closed.
I hope I get another chance to visit the place during summer.

It was hot and windless, but the view was lovely. The "beach" is not much - rocky and very well traveled. Not sure I would make the trip out just to visit here, but if you are in the area - what the heck.

It took us five hours to drive here from Flushing Meadows on Memorial day weekend and we missed being able to get into the lighthouse by an hour! Our plan originally was to arrive at 4 PM as parking would be free, and then visit the lighthouse from 4 to 4:30 pm but it wasn’t meant to be. Still we enjoyed seeing the beautiful lighthouse and walking around the beach and visiting the café/bar next-door. We also met some lovely people and cannot wait to come back! Next time it won’t be on a holiday weekend!

We drove more than 2 hours to get there. We saw the sunset and sunrise.
Feeling the breez. The view was extraordinary. It was so peaceful. It was worth to go there.

Really nice visit with a lovely view and interesting museum. We visited now in September which means not crowded with people and lot of parking places. It’ s worth climbing up in the Lighthouse although the view is limited. Down in Montauk we found the greatest beach!

I'm a real sucker for lighthouses, and I love visiting them. We had a great experience, learned a lot about the Fresnel lenses. The staff was friendly and informative.

A bucket list, breathtaking historical site all Long Islanders should visit once in their lifetime! Few words can describe the complete beauty and serenity the Montauk Lighthouse and park offers visitors, especially considering the very affordable admission fee. To make your visit complete, pay a visit to the lighthouse museum and climb the 100+ steps to the top of the lighthouse. Although we did not visit downtown Montauk, it appears there are enough stores, shopping, and beachfront activities to keep a whole family busy for at least a full day.

Cruzin Montauk, followed signs to the lighthouse. To get up close you needed to pay $11.00. We took a picture at the gate for free and rolled.

This place has a incredible view of the ocean you can walk down to the beach or sit in the restaurant with a view if its to cold I have been here before and always visit when in Montauk it never gets old

nice views great gift shop great weather even though lighthouse was closed. even the dog enjoyed the walk and the view.

The lighthouse is situated on a perfect spot with great views all around. Having a blue sky day didn't hurt either, The lighthouse building house a great museum just filled with interesting things and photographs- it is well curated. Going up in the lighthouse is an adventure. 137 spiral staircase steps (narrow) that you climb holding a rope on the left. When you get to the top, you can (only 1 person) step out on a small balcony for a bird's eye view of the area that will take your breath away. I highly recommend going to the top if you can do the stairs. The history of the lighthouse is also fascinating- take the time to enjoy the museum. Very nice gift store as well.

Out at the very end of the eastern tip of Long island...Beautiful walk around the building...just a few miles past the Memory Motel.

There was a time you could walk around the lighthouse and enjoy the view. Now there is ugly fencing everywhere to keep you out. Now you must pay $15 per person plus $8.50 to park your car to walk near the lighthouse. A beautiful spot were average folk could enjoy a piece of Long Island history cut off. How does a family afford this now? Shame.

Trip was good but we are disappointed about food. Near that food is a great crisis. My recommendation if possible bring your own food.

Lovely view but a bit of a cash grab. $8 parking $11 per head to walk up the the lighthouse.
walk to the water for a cheaper perspective and drive back to the pick nik area and take a view from another angle. $8 parking lets you into both areas to park.
Stay away from the edge of the escarpment... erosion of the bank could lead to loose soil at the edges.

Our daughter was visiting with her two children so we waited til 4 pm when parking becomes free and explored beach on sound side then walked around to ocean side. Just a magical spot filled with beauty! Also a great place to watch the sunrise if you are an early riser. Either way, don’t miss the lighthouse if you are visiting Montauk!

Went to Montauk as first time visitors. Traffic leaving/entering Long Island was very heavy, even during mid-day, mid-week. The same happens when entering/leaving Montauk even during off season. The lighthouse property access was closed. The restaurants are unreasonably expensive. It is a nice town to walk around and the people are great.

Beautiful beach & and well groomed trails. The beach did not contain garbage like so many I’ve seen, which says a lot to the types of patrons this site attracts and to the park staff. Two thumbs up 👍

OMG - you have to see the light house decorated at Christmas time. It's so cool and VERY DARK when you get there. Be careful going back .there are a lot of deers. The LIGHT HOUSE is Amazing.

This spot is magical and special. We enjoyed the sunset <3. During this time, the museum in the lighthouse was closed but tourists can take a walk by the coastal line and enjoy the beautiful view. Put this destination in your bucket list ;)

This is the "must see" of Long Island. The lighthouse is currently under refurbishment but that doesn't interfere with a visit. The museum is open and quite interesting. The grounds are beautiful with plenty of parking, picnic areas, gift shop and friendly staff. The ocean views are stunning.

A must see when in Montauk is a trip to the historic lighthouse. Set on a bluff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean with breathtaking views. The lighthouse also has a small gift shop and a place to buy food nearby.

Love it, for decades now, just love. I've been coming to Montauk for many decades, 1992. I have tried every place to stay in Montauk, and this one is the most comfortable for me.

Was closed the day we were there but still awesome to behold. Great views from the area. Lots of history here. The shop was open. Staff was very informative and courteous.

Beautiful views. Easily accessible. Interesting and educational.
No lines or wait time.
Able to capture great photographs .

The lighthouse is quite impressive. We were hesitant about going into the small museum but were so glad we did. An excellent museum which really brings the lighthouse history to life. Only reason it isn’t 5 stars is that we wished the staff would have kept their political discussion private and not in the public space.

So amazing! Beautiful grounds, endless views, walk up to the light (137 steps), walking trails at the cliffs and an interesting museum staffed by very helpful people. Learn all about lighthouses, the keepers who lived here, the progress made in lights for shipping safety, the erosion that is threatening some of them and the efforts to protect these treasures. The drive out to Montauk Point is awesome. Bring water, snacks, walking shoes and enjoy this fabulous property.

This place is scenic like something out of a movie. It costs a bit of money to enter the lighthouse and see the high view. I recommend it.

The lighthouse is beautiful and the walk up is easy enough. There’s a museum area, great maps, I like the gift shop gift which had nice Christmas ornaments but the real reason to go is the memorial to those who died at sea. Very moving.
And then, a hike down to the water.

We were told to visit this place, and once we got there, we understood why! Great lighthouse historical artifacts and narratives inside the lighthouse - but the views from the grounds are really worth the visit by themselves!!! You can go up a lot of stairs in a winding staircase to the top - but I didn't think that looked like fun!

Having seen this lighthouse during the day many times living on the island. It was a tree to stay over in Montauk and see the lighthouse all lit up for christmas. A really special treat to see especially if you have young ones. Pity non of the facilities were open but i suppose it was the holidays.

This lighthouse is different in that you don't exactly get to walk on the outside. A small balcony for 2 people gives you half the horizon to look at. The next floor up allows to see 360 from the inside, but only one person at a time standing on a ladder step. It is small but worth the visit. Only 13 people are allowed in the tower at once for safety purposes. The adjacent museum and historic sites are fun to see.

We drove out to the Lighthouse and were pleasantly surprised at the size and beauty of the exterior, then toured the interior, roaming from room to room viewing the various artifacts and pictures.....I would highly recommend going!!!!

This is the Jewel of Montauk. Not to be missed. Breathtaking views informative museum and friendly staff. Worth driving to the end of Long Island! Loved it.

We enjoy checking out lighthouses when we travel and this one did not disappoint. $11 a person and you can climb to the top (which can be a little scary) and enjoy a tour of their museum. The museum is very informative. The displays on erosion of the beaches were exceptional!

We visit the lighthouse every time we come out to Montauk. We just love it. The museum is wonderful, the gift shop is adorable. The staff members are pleasant and knowledgeable. The views are absolutely breathtaking.

Well worth the drive and a must see when visiting Long Island. The lighthouse is truly magnificent so well maintained! The climb to the top could be an issue for those physically challenged but its awesome at the top. The staff do a wonderful job guiding you through the lighthouse.

Very nice museum - you can climb the stairs up to the top (where the light is) and see the shoreline stretching away. Word of warning - the stairs are very steep and twisty, so be careful, especially if you're scared of heights!

I’ve been coming to Montauk since I was a little kid, this past week my fiancé and I came out with a few other couples. Some of them have never been to Montauk before and they wanted to go see the light house. I’ve driven past it an uncountable amount of times but never actually went to the museum. As I love Montauk so much I wish I went sooner. The museum is curated perfect. The only reason I didn’t give a five star review is that if you do the tower climb it’s very stuffy and the rope hand rail that you use to climb the spiral staircase is gross. Other than that it’s sooo cool. My favorite was the monument for fishermen lost at see. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who hasn’t been there be for.

Don't miss the lighthouse on your visit to the Hamptons. It is so interesting and the view is amazing. The little museum was quite informative.

Driving out to the lighthouse is beautiful. The lighthouse has a cute and fun Museum and then you can climb the lighthouse. It was a pretty easy climb and when you get to the top you can see out for miles and miles of beautiful landscape. We then went to the gift shop and wow... one of the nicest gift shops I’ve ever been too and I’ve been to a lot of gift shops. We then walked around outside and just took in the amazing views. Wonderful day.

There are great views everywhere of Montauk form the lighthouse, there is also a museum, it is a great place to visit

This was a day excursion for us and well worth the trip. The lighthouse is lovely and full of interesting information in many way whether you like history or nature. The staff is friendly and the grounds and facility are lovely and clean. The ocean views are great. I am a huge George Washington fan and it was fun to see a letter hand written by him as he commissioned the building of this lighthouse. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this visit.

Because the tower was closed due to COVID, we didn't bother buying tickets. We did, however, shop at the gift shop, which was great.

What an awesome experience! The power of the 50 mph wind and the raging 17 ft Seas. Unfortunately the light house was closed. I would have loved to have that view. Need to return in blue sky weather.

This had a multi-stop walk around the whole area with interesting bits of information at each spot. Very enjoyable. Even with COVID-19, we were able to go inside the lighthouse at a limited capacity of people, and there were lots of interesting items in there. We were not able to actually go up into the top of the lighthouse due to COVID-19. There is also a nice beach that you can go down to from the hill.

Montauk Point Lighthouse offers a serene and picturesque escape just a few hours from New York City. Perched on the eastern tip of Long Island, this historic landmark boasts breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and stunning sunsets that paint the sky in hues of orange and pink.
The lighthouse itself is a marvel of maritime history, dating back to the 18th century. Visitors can climb to the top for panoramic vistas or explore the museum to learn about the area's rich seafaring heritage. The surrounding grounds are perfect for picnics, leisurely walks, or simply soaking in the coastal beauty.
Whether you're a history buff, a nature lover, or seeking a peaceful retreat from the city buzz, Montauk Point Lighthouse is a must-visit destination. Plan your trip to witness the magic of this coastal gem and create unforgettable memories by the sea.

Living in The Hamptons, makes this place an easy destination. Lots of trails, history & salty sea air! Take the kids up to the beacon & get that view of Plum Island, Block Island & endless Atlantic Ocean.
Watch for the “friendly ghost”.
Be sure to take the right onto the “Old Scenic Highway” too.

This is a lovely historic site. Very much worth the price of admission and the time. The views are great, lots of boats and seashore.

A beautiful park and well worth the trip. Beautiful walks so go late afternoon and walk the area then watch the sunset which is stunning.

Stopped at Montauk light house and went to museum. Long line to climb light house, 45 min On a tues at 12. $8 to park, $11 per adult to enter lighthouse area

Beautiful place for a weekend get away. Nice scenery and the beaches around are great. Have to pay for parking, read the signs carefully

Went here because the weather wasn't that good for a beach day. We loved the lighthouse tour! It was very interesting and the walk up the light house was neat! Can be a challenge for some, but the lighthouse offers a video of the view.

The first Lighthouse of NY. A really cool place to visit, walk and take in what nature has to offer. We parked and then was able to walk around the park and experience the beach, lighthouse and bluffs. Great place to take pics and to just sit and soak in nature. We walked on the rocks by the water and were able to catch different glimpses of the lighthouse. Although the day was cloudy and a bit stormy we still loved it. They also have a gift shop with plenty of nice things to purchase.

Had the opportunity to visit Montauk on a beautiful September afternoon. I did not pay the entry fee which allowed a closer view of the lighthouse. Instead, we opted to take a walk to the outer side of the lighthouse and we’re very taken with the beautiful view and interesting rocks. We were literally at the end of Long Island and it was breathtaking. It is well-maintained and definitely worth going to see.

The views are very new England amazing sights. The climb up the light house was very interesting. The museum was done well and informative Great place to walk around the grounds and the beach. Be careful by the cliff.

Truly "The End" as Montauk is often referred. Highly recommend the climb to the top of the light on a clear day. The view of Long Island Sound, the Connecticut shoreline and Block Island are incredible. This is a jewel for the State of New York!

Historic lighthouse at its best, stunning location at the far end of montauk,You are taken to different world once u park ur car and start walking uphill. One can walk up the lighthouse and the view from there is stunning!

Admission to walk up to Lighthouse was $12 per adult, $5 per child. So a family of 4 would pay $34 and that’s after you pay $8 to park (regardless of how long you’re there). You can see the lighthouse and take this picture without paying to enter or park. Not worth the drive.

A classic visit to a true historical monument/site. It was a beautiful day, and the line to climb the tower was short. We wandered the grounds and museum for an hour or so after we climbed the lighthouse.

Small museum with great detail on the lighthouse and local history. The climb to the top of the lighthouse is worth the view.

I had been there over 50 years ago and my wife had never been there and lived in L.I. her whole life. It’s historic, the grounds are well maintained (a lot of deer droppings and careful of ticks signs posted all over). The views from the ground are spectacular. We decided to walk up to the top (no elevator), it’s a steep climb narrow spiraling stair case. You need to be in good cardio shape. Once at the top the views are on unbelievable. There is a Ranger who limits how many come up and go down. Glad we did it.

Views in the area stunning! You can look all the way to Ireland! Lighthouse needs some maintenance. Good parking. Recommended

The Montauk Lighthouse is Long Island Landmark. It is the signature of the East End and it is the actual End of THE END of Long Island. It overlooks the water and on a clear day you can see Block Island.

We've been here a couple of times and it is always stunning. The history and exhibits are interesting, but it's the views that will take your breath away. Such a wonderful vantage point and on a nice day you can see miles and miles. Well worth the trip.

This is a lovely place to visit. The views are exquisite, from the ground as well as the lighthouse. Once you make the climb however, the outside view is limited to a single place for which you must wait your turn- rather disappointing. The grounds are beautiful and there’s lots to see. The staff is very pleasant, informed and helpful. You can also have a simple lunch at the cafe.

It was very informative. It answered our question about the purple sand on beach. It has ample parking and amazing view of the tip of long island. Just make sure you wear sneakers for the walk to top.

Beautiful day! Beautiful weather and fantastic views! We drove out to see the lighthouse - we came in from Virginia Beach, Virginia! But the lighthouse was CLOSED! this site says it is open 10:30 - 4:30! Boy were we disappointed! We walked around the outskirts and took some photographs! But would really have gotten the right information to plan the visit!

The lighthouse is a must for any family that is visiting Montauk. The views are amazing from the top. It is quite a few steps but most people should be able to make it to the top.

The gift shop had some lovely items. The charm of the lighthouse is a replica of the lighthouse and not a generic lighthouse.
Son learned about the lighthouse history while inside.

A must see went out East on Long Island NY.A wonderful State Park that is easy to get to.Stop at the "Overlooks" along the way.Tremendous views.Park in the lot and take the stairs to the top.Warning though would be to take it slow.Narrow steps and no turning back once you start going up.

Long drive to get there (unless you are staying on that end of the island), but worth it.
Beautiful location. Interesting museum, and very knowledgeable docents.

"A must go too when visiting montuak New York. Afterwards head over to east Hampton beach and enjoy! ATTN: waves at the beach are pretty rough so if your traveling with little ones, keep a good eye on them! - Lopez Family

Always beautiful to see Montauk Point and the gorgeous Lighthouse and waves . The snack bar was nice a good variety in a fair price. Also take a trip up to the top of the lighthouse

Gorgeous setting and views. Interesting museum on site that gives history of the Montauk lighthouse and of Long Island. $11/person for admission.

If you really want to go inside the lighthouse, go early as the queues build up during the day. There are a number pf fees/ costs so be prepared- cost to park, to enter the lighthouse and to climb to the top. The views if you don't go inside are still spectacular. What I didn't appreciate on this part of Long Island are ticks so be warned that you don't venture off the beaten path too far into nature!

This is a must for those who are visiting and care about the history of the area. The docents do an incredible job of linking the history of the site--George Washington anyone?--and other events, such as the Amistad slave ship coming ashore here. Lots to see in the lower levels. You can also climb the tower and great an incredible view, but it's not for those who are not somewhat hale and hearty. But the top of the lighthouse is worth the effort. On clear days you easily see the Connecticut coast, Block Island, and all the boats fishing off the point. Spectacular.

Lighthouse was closed the day we visited from NY.
We were unable to access the area because of building work to museum.
Can’t understand why the specific area was not sealed off and tourists allowed roam around.
Gift shop was open of course.!
A jobs worth Lady ushered us off the site.
Not a great experience.

I love to visit lighthouses, and this particular one was very nice.
The Gift Shop was especially very well stocked with nice gifts.

It’s definitely a nice view, all you see is the water. Unfortunately the day we went to the lighthouse it was closed so we walked along the trail and saw some really pretty birds.

This place is so cool! The view from the top of the lighthouse is beautiful and was such an awesome experience to get to do that

I took my family to see the lighting of the holiday lights on the lighthouse. It was certainly something to see! The event wasn't all that well organized. However, considering that it was free with an option for donation, I wasn't disappointed. The band playing at the event was great, but couldn't be heard far enough for all to enjoy. Santa waving from the top of the lighthouse was a perfect magical touch. We were glad to grab some hot chocolate in town on the way in. Seeing few RVs on the parking lot decorated with lights, gave me an idea for a picnic at the next year's event. We will probably take a ride there again to see the lights that will come on every evening for the next few weeks. Plus, we did enjoy collecting moon snail shells on the beach and the kids want to do more of that as well.

It took 2 hours from our hotel to get to the lighthouse, but it was worth the drive. The scenery at the lighthouse and the surrounding area was breathtaking. There were plenty of swinging benches and you can watch the boats, birds and other wildlife and just relax. The entrance fee to see the lighthouse museum and walk up to the lighthouse was pricey, but it was beautiful. A must see when you are at The Hamptons.

I was excited about seeing a historical monument. Fortunately, one of the volunteers
attached himself to us and was so knowledgeable.
I had never learned before that George Washington was the one to have it built.
Besides the great guide, the museum was very special. It was a very worthwhile trip.

We hadn’t been in many years. We visited Montauk and, of course, wanted to see the lighthouse. I think it is absurd that you have to pay to park and then pay again to be able to walk up to the lighthouse. We didn’t go up to it because we had been there many times before, and felt it is a rip off now.

We took a ride out to the end of Long Island on Christmas break. Free parking but everything is closed. There is a playground and a very clean rest area. Very beautiful location. The beginning of the U.S.

With $8 to park (we went on weekday off season, so it was free), and $12 per adult to see even the grounds (and the museum; my kid would have been charged admission even though too short to climb), this can be an expensive outing for a family. We instead took the trail near the lighthouse and saw it that way, by climbing on the rocks. Passport stamps available in gift shop.

On a whim whoever was at the house packed up and drive to the lighthouse... it was an all around great visit. I could have stayed longer on the museum itself but we had some littles with us. The staff were fairly friendly. The lady giving the info on the lens sounded monotone and spoke with little interest... however was still informative. The lines were long but worth it. There was a nice play area for kids and informational displays in the first building as well which helped the time go by. We were there on a windy stormy day and it was perfect!

The lighthouse is in a beautiful area, with lovely views. Parking is $8.00 which is not that high considering the location. However the lighthouse doesn’t open until 10:30!!! After parking I walked the path to the site and it was locked. 10:30 seems like a very late start for a vacation attraction so don’t get there too early. The ride itself is lovely though and the paths to the beach are nice. Just was disappointed that I was unable to take advantage of what I am sure is a magnificent view from the highest point.

The Montauk Lighthouse was about half our day. It took about 1.5 hours from our hotel. After we toured the lighthouse we walked to beaches and explored for a bit.

Absolutely gorgeous area. Great views from the lighthouse and surrounding areas. Lighthouse museum was very informative and interesting. Walking to the top of the lighthouse is not for the faint of heart - dizzying amount of very narrow stairs. Worth it for the views but know your own limitations before embarking on that part of the experience. You do have to pay to park and pay to enter the lighthouse/museum. It was worth it to me but may not be for everyone.

The Montauk Point Lighthouse is a beautiful and interesting landmark in a beautiful setting. However, the rude staff ruined my visit.

We enjoyed a drive out there on a warm sunny September day. Beautiful views of the ocean with sailboats in the distance. Parking is $8. We did not do the climb today, but made it previously years ago with my kids.

Worth the visit. Great views and at the very tip of Long Island. You can climb to the top of the lighthouse if you wish.

It was a very disappointing experience for the following reasons:
1.There was an hour's wait to enter the building. Upon entering I saw that the railing consisted of a slack rope on only one side. I am 73 years old and in reasonably good health, but after walking 20 steps, I turned back. ONLY THE HEALTHIEST PEOPLE WITH GOOD BALANCE SHOULD ATTEMPT THIS. IT WAS A WASTE OF $10.
2. When we paid for tickets, my son asked at the ticket booth if he would have unlimited time to take pictures at the top. He was told yes. When he got to the top, there was only room for one person at a time and one spot to stand and take pictures. After about three minutes, he was told he had to leave because there was a long line behind him. HOW CAN YOU HAVE PEOPLE CLIMB TO THE TOP AND THEN LIMIT TO THEIR VIEWING TO ONE POINT (INSTEAD OF 360 DEGREES WHICH IS THE CASE IN ALL OTHER LIGHTHOUSES) AND ALSO LIMIT THEIR TIME IN TAKING PICTURES? NO RESTRICTIONS EXIST LIKE THIS AT THE TWENTY OTHER LIGHTHOUSES WE HAVE BEEN TO.
3. Don't you care or understand that most people are having to drive a distance on one lane roads to reach the Montauk lighthouse? And then to be cheated out of the experience of seeing a great view BY BEING ABLE TO WALK AROUND THE TOP OF THE LIGHTHOUSE IS UNFORGIVABLE You clearly have no repeat business because who would want to come back when the WALK UP IS TREACHEROUS AND YOU GET VIRTUALLY NOTHING AT THE END FOR YOUR TROUBLE.
I can't be the first person who has complained. You should be ashamed for not addressing these deficiencies in the off season so that tourists can have the great experience they expect when taking the time to come.

The lighthouse is a must-do if you visit Montauk. First, it is the tip of the south fork - the east most point on the island and the state of NY. Second, it is nice historical building full of interesting things and sights to see and to take photos with. On a good day, you can see the north fork and Block Island. The lighthouse is climbable but you would not be able to take your backpack with you, and the number of climbers are controlled due to narrow stairs and space on the top. Go early if you want to reach the top of the lighthouse. Parking is $8 - not painful but it should be free.

This lighthouse and park are beautiful. The view from the top of the lighthouse is breathtaking. So understand why it is dubbed "the end of the world." The people working at the park and lighthouse are lovely. Everyone seemed to be having a great time.

Amazing labor of love preserving this historical place! The first light house built in the USA, commisioned by no other than George Washington himself. It is definitely worth a visit.

You could spend hours there and still want more. Staff friendly and knowledgeable. If you are visiting Montauk you must go there!

We recently visited here and really enjoyed it. There is a good museum and it is nest to a State Park. On the very eastern end of the Hamptons. Worth a trip.

Great views, and plenty of picture opportunities.lighthouse does not disappoint.friendly & knowledgable staff.definitely coming back

Just OK - was disappointed with overall experience - was very over valued in my opinion - not that great'! Had to walk around dangerous walkways to view Jaws experiencE

The lighthouse is one of the main attractions in Montauk and I can see why. We didn’t see the museum this time.they had some cool gift ideas in the gift shop and we loved looking at it from around there. Everyone wore masks and it was a safe place to visit during these times.

Heading out to Montauk, make sure you drive an extra 6 miles east and visit the Lighthouse. Great views and cool place to visit a place that has been around over 250 years.

The only reason I rated this a 4 out of 5 was because you could not climb the lighthouse due to repairs being done. The views are amazing once you get up to the lighthouse. With that being said, there is a big hill you have to climb to get there. I am not sure if they make accommodations for disabled people so that might be something to check out. They have a very nice gift shop as well. There is only one road in and out, Montauk Highway 27. This road can get very backed up all the way from the Hamptons so bring your patience. Also, the small beach town of Montauk is worth walking around in.

Beautiful beaches and friendly locals, but serious Route 27 traffic even off-season severely impacts the experience.
The beaches (especially Ditch Plains) were peaceful, clean, and perfect for relaxing.
Hither Hills campground was nearly empty, with clean bathrooms and direct beach access — a real plus for campers.
However, many restaurants were closed, and those open had no fresh seafood during the week.
The lighthouse now charges $15 just to walk up the hill, which felt overpriced given the limited services.
Gurney’s was also remodeling, making dining options even fewer.
The biggest issue was the traffic: Route 27 westbound around 5 PM turned what should have been a 2.5-hour drive home into nearly 3.5 hours.
The full hour of delay appeared to be entirely due to congestion on Route 27 and local driving behavior, not accidents or construction.
If that's typical even off-season, it’s a serious drawback.
Overall: 3.5 to 4 stars for the peaceful beaches and friendly atmosphere —
but Route 27 issues drop it closer to 2.5 stars for overall experience.
Plan your trip carefully if you go.

We spent 6 hours in the area on Saturday. It was Labor Day weekend so there was traffic getting to the parking lot.
You need to pay to go to the lighthouse and the surroundings, that includes the climb upstsirs and the museum. We ate at the nearby cafe. The food was good, there was a live band playing and they had free games for the kids to enjoy.
We walked on the big rocks, where you may fish and look at the ocean and we hang out on the beach. You may spend the whole day there. We had a good time!

Great museum, you don’t need to spend a ton of time there to feel like you get a lot out of it. The staff is helpful and informative. Wear good shoes for stair climbing!

We were staying in East Hampton for a few days and wanted to spend a day in Montauk. We caught a bus from East Hampton and took the LIRR back. The lighthouse is about 7-8 miles out of the centre, so we took a taxi there and back. The lighthouse has been well maintained and the views from the top are spectacular. Luckily we were there out of season so it wasn't too busy. I am not good with heights or narrow staircases and I think it would be a nightmare if 15 people (I think that's the maximum allowed) were trying to go up and down at the same time. But well worth a visit and I'm glad I braved the climb to the top.

The lighthouse located just at the eastern end of Long Island. The light house is quite an interesting place to visit, stating the history of the lighthouse and its guardians.. The scenic beauty around is awesome as well.

Inside the lighthouse is filled with Long Island history on fisherman and their lives . Overlooks the beautiful ocean and depending what time of year you visit you just may view seals and whales frolicing the sea

The lighthouse is our favorite place in Montauk. We love walking around the perimeter of the lighthouse on the rocks. The view from the top of the lighthouse is spectacular. Plan on spending at least four hours so you can take your time and read all of the displays.

It was very beautiful! Fun walk down by the rocky beach. Admission to go up to the lighthouses is 11$ for adults and 5$ for kids we didn’t go up but it seemed worth it! We got a good view down by the beach. Park was clean and had trash and recycle options.

We arrived at the $8.00 parking lot at 4:05. The lighthouse closes at 4:30. We stopped in the bathroom first. By the time we walked to the lighthouse gates they were not letting anyone into the lighthouse...but of course you could go into the gift shop. Very disappointing that they will take your $8.00 for parking and then not let you into the lighthouse. Guess we paid to look at the rocky beach and pee in the toilet.

It may be easily found as it is located at the end of the island, however you are not missed. There is no free parking without a significant fine, so you willingly pay the hefty charge only to find that the lighthouse costs twelve dollars per adult for the walk to the end of the island.
For a large group, there are better highlights in the area.

This is a fun place to visit after a drive out to Montauk, the furthest point on Long Island. You have to wait 15-20 minutes (this was a summer weekday, I'm sure weekends are busier) to climb up, but the view from the top is beautiful. It definitely seems pricey for the experience: $8 to park, then $11 for an adult entry. $30 for a half hour visit for a couple seemed like a bit much, which is why I'm giving it four instead of five stars.

Don't miss this! The most knowledgeable volunteers are stationed throughout the museum. Beautiful exhibits explain the history of the area and the lighthouse itself. The stairs up the lighthouse were NOT daunting despite the warnings.

Not much to do in Montauk on a rainy day. Stopped at the Lighthouse and spent an enjoyable 2 hours. Would have been more enjoyable on a clear day, but overall it was a very interesting trip.

Parking was free, the cool spring breezy weather made it enjoyable. There was a charge to climb the lighthouse, but we have climbed lighthouses for free, so we skipped it. One could view the ocean as well without a climb. We went into the gift shop at the base of the lighthouse in search of a light jacket, but there were none, just heavy sweatshirts. What seemed to be a disoriented, possibly rabid racoon was terrorizing the shop and the patrons heading to the lighthouse.

Montauk lighthouse is worth the drive. It is lovingly restored both inside and out. The museum is a gem. A lovely afternoon visiting this piece of Americsn history.

Arrived out from NYC to visit Lighthouse.
We knew the lighthouse itself was closed but we thought we could walk around the site and take some photographs however no chance but the gift shop was open !
We were ushered off the site by a jobs worth female employee which was dissapointing.
Went for a walk instead which we enjoyed.
Even if they are renovating the museum they could easily screen off the works area and allow visitors enjoy the views etc from a restricted area.
Evidently No thought by the operators on this matter..

Excellent views of the shore along the way. We like coming in the winter-- very quiet and peaceful. The parking area has a restroom, picnic and small playground. *Gasoline prices on Long Island appear to be cheaper than the mainland-- especially in the Ronkonkoma area. They were $0.30/gallon less than Westchester.

We enjoyed a quick visit to the Montauk lighthouse. There is an $8 fee to park in the Montauk Point State Park parking lot across the street from 8:00am to 4:00pm. I would suggest going after 4pm for free parking. Then entering the Lighthouse you'll experience another slow line to get in. You'll pay another $11 to get into the Lighthouse. We didn't climb to the top as they had a very long line. The views are stunning. If you don't mind tons of people and long waits it's worth checking out.

We enjoyed this visit! The view is beautiful and the cafe was nice to for a drink and snacks. Walk to the beach for some great shots of the rocky beach and water.

A friend and I decided to do a road trip to montauk on a Sunday. The drive was amazing. Both sides of the road was lined with trees with the ocean on one side, it was beautiful. It was quite a drive from Tarrytown but it was worth. It was still chilly in April but we managed to have fun just walking around and chilling.

We have been to the lighthouse every year.. Beautiful skies and fields. and the pictures are always wonderful.

One of the most beautiful state parks I've every visited. The lighthouse and museum are so well maintained. The grounds around the lighthouse as well as the entire park are so beautiful. The shore line, adjacent beaches and bluffs are stunning. The view from the top of the lighthouse is amazing as is the view from the beach looking back to the lighthouse. After exploring the lighthouse and surrounding beaches, we enjoyed a great lunch/cocktails at George's Lighthouse Cafe. Can't wait until we visit again!!!

Beautiful place. We were just a little disappointed because on their schedule it says they were suppose to be open, unfortunately when we get there only the gift shop was open. However, we get the chance to go around the area through the beach. It was very nice, only few visitors, we arrived at 11:00am Feb. 16. It was a Saturday. Sunny and cold around 38-40°F. Family friendly place. Good for couple and loaner as well. Best view is at the back where the rocky boulders are placed to prevent soil erosion. I recommend this place. I don't know if the parking is free but on our visit, it was free.

The Montauk Lighthouse and Museum is absolutely worth a visit. It offers a fascinating journey back in time—from the early days of settlers arriving in America to the critical role the lighthouse played in protecting U.S. shores during World War II. The exhibits beautifully showcase how the lighthouse has evolved over the decades, blending historical preservation with modern technology.
A standout experience was meeting Charlie, one of the museum guides. He’s a wealth of knowledge and goes above and beyond to ensure every question is answered with insight and enthusiasm. His passion for the history of Montauk is truly infectious.
On the downside, the customer service at the ticket counter could use improvement. Sally and the woman handling admissions seemed disengaged and less than welcoming, which was disappointing given the overall richness of the site.
Still, the visit is highly recommended—especially if you have the chance to connect with Charlie. His storytelling brings the lighthouse’s legacy to life.

If you go to Long Island, you have to stop here! The first light house in the US, commissioned by none other than George Washington himself. Be sure to climb to the top--it's worth the effort! The views are spectacular!

Sunrise near the grounds of the Lighthouse are amazing even on a cloudy day!
If traveling by car you must park in the lot but there’s only a charge after 8 am ($8).
Definitely a worth getting up early for.

This is a beautiful place and a MUST SEE place in Montauk and the Hamptons. Watch out for opening hours, since it is rather restricted. Late afternoon is it usually closed.
Great views, and great ocean view. Great for photos.

Light house is beautiful as always, great area to bring your dog to walk the trails and the beach. Be sure if you’re walking the trails you protect yourself & pup for ticks.

It is easy to understand why Montauk Point Lighthouse is the most photographed Lighthouse in the world. It sits on the peak of a bluff 40 feet above the ocean at the tip of Long Island. And as the locals like to say, "Montauk - The End", it really feels like the end. The end of the world. For New Yorkers, in a New York centric world, this is the end. 120 miles from Manhattan, if one is lucky, it's a three hour drive, on the LIE, followed by Sunrise Highway, and Montauk Highway, it is east, and East and EAST until there is no more east. Sure, it isn't the end of the world, but it feela like it and when you get there, it is gorgeous. Standing on that hill, on almost any day, you intimately understand why it is there. And while there are larger lights, this one, so bright and strong against that the pounding sea, high on that hill and bluff, seems to defy nature and warn sailors that here, is where land begins! And from here, the greatest metropolis, is now close. So majestic and beautiful, it is clear why, with millions of New Yorkers and Islanders nearby, they come to see it standing at "The End".

It’s a beautiful spot and the view is great too. There’s a lot of information at the museum which you can visit after your trip to the top.
Definitely not for the claustrophobic or for those who suffer from vertigo. It is a steep climb up. I’m almost certain that one can visit the museum without doing the climb if one chooses though since that is on the ground level as well. There are activities outside on the grounds. However the wait to get in is long so I would recommend a weekday morning, so you have plenty of time to spare. And yes, it’s paid to go in. There’s a gift or souvenir shop as well. Parking is paid. Pets are NOT allowed

We stayed in Montauk the week after Labor Day. Most of the traffic is gone from roads as well as beaches. Reading some of the other reviews I can see how the one-lane road approach could be a nightmare on a busy summer day. Get around that by getting up early and arriving well before opening. There are grounds to walk and vistas to explore to kill time, and the views from the light house are indeed spectacular.
The staff are all friendly and seem to love their job of sharing information and stories about the landmark. All in all a very nice attraction full of history, especially the military aspects that I had not been aware of.... :-)

We went to Montauk on a weekday. It was a perfect day to see the lighthouse perched on top of the cliffs over looking the water. The climb to the top of the lighthouse was narrow and steep on the spiral staircase, but doable for most people. The restaurant and gift shop was easily walkable from the lighthouse. The food was good and they serve local beer. I have heard that the park can be overwhelmed with traffic, so I recommend coming during the week.

The END is worth the trip. Didn't do the lighthouse. But walking the Rocky beach and a picnic in the park was pleasent enough. People fishing and enjoying the ocean views. Pack a lunch.

That this is the #1 thing to do in Montauk probably says it all. Its is picturesque and the lighthouse is impressive. Scrubby and dry and surrounded by ticks. It is an impressive 200 plus year old historic lighthouse.

The lighthouse offers many beautiful and breathtaking views. Great photo opportunities. Parking is available ($8). If you want to go up the lighthouse it's a bit pricey and we had a 30-40 minute wait as only a certain amount of people are allowed up at a time. The view up in the lighthouse is amazing but narrow staircases are not for those claustrophobic.

Montauk lighthouse was built during George Washington's administration and continues to protect ships as a landmark from the rocky shores of Montauk Point. It is an historic piece of of the eastern tip of New York State and worth the trip and admission fee.

Historic, beautiful site at the edge of Montauk! Pay the entrance fee to climb the lighthouse as the view from up top is simply breathtaking!

I like lighthouses...
This lighthouse is also a privately run museum, independent of Montauk State Park. Entry to the lighthouse costs $12.00 for an adult, $8.00 for seniors and $4.00 per child. It’s on the National Register of Historic Places. It was the first lighthouse in NYS and the fourth-oldest active lighthouse in the US. Captain Kidd was rumored to have buried treasure at the foot of the lighthouse site in 1699.
If you’ve come all the way to the end of Long Island because, like me, you like interesting geographical points, you will want to visit this historic and beautiful building.

This place is fun for all ages. There is a small museum inside that tells you all about the history of the lighthouse and, of course, you can climb to the top. The climbing is pretty easy, 134 stair to be exact. Once you reach the top, the view is outstanding. On a nice day, you can see Block Island from the top. Plus, you can go outside of the lighthouse and this gives you a look at the whole state park. Definitely worth the visit.

I've been here several times during family vacations in Montauk over the years. It passes as a good rainy-day excursion if you are plagued with bad weather. The lighthouse has a surprisingly long history to learn about, and its setting is ideal for photos and long walks. One warning: there will be WIND!

I love lighthouses, so my love of this lighthouse is biased. I didn't mind paying the parking and entry fees because they seem like they are for good causes (upkeep). The climb up to the top of the lighthouse was scary for me, but well worth the amazing view. There were some interesting exhibits in the small museum.

We made it to the top of Long Island’s “south fork”. It was worth the trip. We enjoyed the museum & made the 137 step climb up the spiral staircase.

We arrived here some time before it opened in the morning and spent some time looking for crabs on the beach and sitting watching the sun burn away the clouds.
The lighthouse was charming, great views from the top and a nice gift shop.

Went to Montauk to fish and stooped by the Montauk lighthouse. One of the most beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean. You will not be disappointed.

interesting museum about the keepers and items that happened the light house.
I did not climb ot teh top but a few members of my party did and said teh view was good from up there.
It also tells of the bluff and how they designed a system to preserve the cliff from erosion.

We took a long drive to the eastern part of Long Island to see the lighthouse. We paid $8 for a parking spot that was just across the road from the gift shop and the walkway to the lighthouse. We paid an additional entrance fee to walk to and walk around the lighthouse and the grounds.
It was breezy near the lighthouse but the views were great on a bright, sunny day. There were nine rooms inside with a lot of historical information from George Washington to present day.
Some construction was being done by the shoreline that obstructed part of the view but was necessary to keep the lighthouse secure.

It was freezing cold with the Winter winds (bring isolating coats and warm hats) but nevertheless the view is breathtaking and the place is just charming. There is a large parking lot with restrooms and even a nice playground for the kids.

My wife & I having been going to Montauk for more than 21 years. This was our 3rd time to the Lighthouse. Only reason why went went was the new cafeteria. The lobster roll was well worth the ride. Highly recommend it.

Traveled with a friend on Labor day weekend. She had never seen the ocean before. Took LIRR all the way out. Easy to catch a cab from the town to the light house.

The lighthouse is gorgeous and I really enjoyed walking around the rooms, tracking the history of the area over hundreds of years and beyond. The views are stunning from the whole area.
We had a lovely chat with Henry, the historian of the building, who was welcoming and seemed genuinely interested in the history of our country (Scotland/Ireland) and of the lighthouse too! We enjoyed that personal experience!

This was not on my list of places to visit when we left, but it was on my daughter's. It was well worth the drive. She and my grandson made the climb to the top, I did the virtual climb via video, my knees were bothering me. A lot of history in the museum that's fascinating to read about. The views, even from ground level, are wonderful. So glad we had time to take this in.

Visited lighthouse area pre Memorial Day. The lighthouse is in Montauk State Park. Pre Memorial Day, as a rule, you don't have to pay for parking at State Parks. This one was charging $8.00. Note: if you are 62 and over you can park free Monday-Friday. Thank you to the parking lot attendant for making us aware of that.
Lighthouse area is under construction but still a beautiful view of the lighthouse and the surrounding water. Restaurant was closed and admission into the actual lighthouse was not permitted but the museum and gift shop were available.

We had the good fortune to travel during a brilliantly beautiful fall day in the midst of the week. There were few people around and breathtaking sights. On weekdays, parking is free. My spouse declined to ascend to the top of the lighthouse due to his claustrophobia. Given that I have a history of vertigo, I will admit that the trek up was a little difficult. The wisest course of action was to move on without turning around. If it would be worthwhile, I pondered. Indeed, it was! In addition to pointing out other sites, the docent at the top suggested additional parks we should check out before leaving town.

We planned to get there for sunset. The place was closed which worked out even better as it was free parking (saved 8 bucks) and the lighthouse was closed (saving another 11/person). I'm sure it is nice inside and there is some good history but I was happy with what I saw. Bravo to whoever planned the stones around the waters edge. They are laid them in such a way that it is easy to walk around the entire lighthouse. Got to watch some seals playing right out front, people fishing and a great sunset. Of course if you want to see what is inside make sure you are there before they close, but I'm okay with what I got to experience.

I visited and climbed this lighthouse probably 20 years ago. Since then they have added a bigger, better stocked gift shop and I presume they have enlarged the museum. However, I didn't see any of that this time (except the shop) as dogs aren't allowed even on the grounds around the lighthouse. They're allowed in the general park vicinity, so we contented ourselves with looking from a slight distance.
After 4PM, when it's free to park, we returned, and watched the sun set from the deck behind the George Washington Cafe. We weren't the only ones with that idea. If you're not intent on going through the museum or climbing the tower I would suggest you come after 4, park free, and watch the sun sink, watch the lighthouse lamp come alive, and avoid the larger crowds. That's the experience I'm rating four stars.

They charged $8 for parking then wanted $20 each to go in the lighthouse. Senior rate. Plus, there was a hideously ugly chain link fence around the lighthouse you couldn’t get close to it. Left immediately. Huge disappointment.

A gorgeous view of the water but even in the off season, the $8 to park and the $11 to walk up the lighthouse wasn't worth it. Look at it from afar and enjoy the rest of the views from the scenic overlook.

This place is really special, and I highly suggest you see a sunrise here once in your life. You'll be shocked to see how large the light house is in real-life once you approach it; the thing is huge! Photos don't do it justice. (The radar tower at camp hero is also tremendous in real-life, but that's a different review). You don't have to pay for parking until ~8AM, and there's usually not a lot o people there--not in the offseason anyway, but summer is a different story--and the tranquility is something wonderful.
I haven't been inside the light-house since I was a little kid on a 2nd-grade field trip, but, I loved it at the time, and I'm sure they've made it even better. The museum is great; they had this cool thing that showed all the lighthouses on Long Island, and you could press various buttons to light the different lighthouses. They also have all the old beacons on display in the museum. I remember it having a large, rotating beacon back in 1996, but now it has some sort of LED thing. I remember the view being incredible, and I'll probably go up there sometime in the near future. I used to fly my drone here all the time to get some incredible photos, but they did something weird that causes extreme interference, and the damn thing just goes mental, and returns home after flying ~100ft. Can't really blame them; probably a liability issue, and there's too many frig-heads being reckless/can't fly the thing properly. Either that, or perhaps it's an issue with aerial photographers being upset about not being able to charge big bucks for aerial shots of the lighthouse.

Its just a wonderful time of year to visit Montauk. The weather is normally perfect. The. Crowds of tourists are gone but its still very active if you want to be in the scene. The Lighthouse has a nice tour. A nice gift shop. Many interesting things to see. Lots of information about the Sailors and ships that navigate through the Long Island Sound.George Washington commissioned it to be built way back.
You can see Block Island on a clear day as well as the Connecticut coastline and Rhode Island.
Spectacular views from the top of the Lighthouse if you are able to walk up the small winding stairs.
It's a must see if you are ever in the Hamptons.
Great for hiking and photography.
So much more. I won't bore you. Just go there.

Take about 90 minutes and you can walk to the top of the lighthouse for a spectacular view. Walking through the museum which was the lighthouse keepers quarters had lots to read and see including the local Native American tribes and their influence on the region. They pay tribute to the influence of the Quint character from the movie Jaws as well as whaling and deep sea fishing industries. The surrounding grounds are fun and easy to walk. Afterwards drive to some of the lookouts. Enjoy

After paying for the parking (unexpected expense!) we decided not to take the paid tour to the lighthouse. Instead, we walked to the beach (located to the left of the lighthouse) and help pick seashells, rocks and sea glass with our grandson. After that, we spent some time in the gift shop (reasonably priced), and took some great pictures of the lighthouse and surrounding land/shore.

I've been coming here since I was a kid. It so great to share it with my children now. I absolutely LOVE Montauk and this is a definitely one of the places we come everytime we come. The views are absolutely spectacular. You definitely need to go to the top of the lighthouse worth the wait.

Montauk lighthouse is a very nice place. Not only the lighthouse itself but nearby beaches are mesmerizing. the lighthouse offers great views of the surrounding landscape which is lush green in the summers and beaches are absolutely pristine. It also houses a museum which takes you down the memory lane with history of the place. definitely worth a visit

I drove to “The End” only to find out that the lighthouse was not open for visitors. Fortunately, we walked behind the lighthouse and walked on strategically placed boulders that guide you to a beautiful beach.

The last time I was out east was several years ago. We decided on s quick staycation before my summer program began. It dovetailed with the Shinnecock Open we were not affected by traffic and loved our 4 day juant
The lighthouse is still majestic, impresssine and I love the history and relevance it holds.

There was a gentleman in the museum that was very knowledgeable. We spent some time chatting with him about the lighthouse and the area in general. The climb up the 137 stairs was a little challenging but the view was amazing.

This place has been on my "to-photograph" list for years and years. I've always hesitated due to the long ride (depending on traffic) from the Bronx and never made it out there. I decided to take a drive. We went on a Sunday morning. Driving out east on a Sunday morning was great up until you hit the far east end. Sunrise Highway (27) is the only main highway going out that way. At one points it becomes sort of a main road driving through some town-like places which is where traffic can really snag. I am sure it is better on a weekday (maybe?) but out ride out there was about 2 hours to get through 90% of the trip, and an additional 1.5 hours driving through the remaining 10% due to the crawling traffic. As you approach the museum, you can park in their lot which costs $8 per car. Again, on a less busier day, this is probably okay, but on a Sunday morning, there is one lane going in collecting $$ (and giving change) which causes another snag. This part took us an additional 20-25 minutes. Keep in mind that after 4 PM, parking is free so I would imagine there wouldn't be traffic going in since they are no longer collecting money at that point. There are lots of parking spots available. We saw people barbecuing in the area. There is a hut for the bathrooms near the parking lot. There is also another common area, which also serves food (I think) near the lower part by the parking lot entrance. You are free to walk around the area at that point, but to enter the lighthouse grounds, the museum, the special exhibit (Jaws) and climb the lighthouse, there is a $12 admission for adults and $5 for children. There is a sign on the front counter of how long the wait is to climb the tower, and at that time, it was an hour. Again, on less busier days, there could be no wait at all. They wisely have staff there limiting the amount of people in the lighthouse. I've been to others lighthouses where people are always running into each other on the long winding staircases which can be madness, so this system was welcomed. The museum was nice, but brief and the Jaws exhibit was small, but interesting. We never made it to the top as the line seemed to grow, but I got my $$ worth in photos. :) The weather was great with a nice amount of cloud cover, making for some nice photos. I shot quite a bit, roaming the ground with my tripod without any hassle from the staff. The grounds are well kept and all the staff there were kind, knowledgeable and helpful. For those planning to go, choose a weekday if possible to avoid the traffic, parking and lighthouse climb waiting snags. Also, for those photographers out there, keep in mind that you can also seemingly get some great shots from the nearby beach off Camp Hero State Park. Views of the lighthouse from any angle are top notch, so enjoy!

We were fortunate to make the trip on a sparkling sunny fall day in the middle of the week. The views were amazing, the crowds were sparse. No charge for parking on weekdays. I climbed to the to top of the lighthouse but my husband declined- he has claustrophobia. I'll admit the climb up was a bit rough given that I have a history of vertigo. The best strategy was to just keep going and don't look back. I wondered if it would be worth it. It was! The views were so spectacular. The docent at the top was really helpful pointing out different sights and even recommended other parks for us to visit on our way out of town. The gift shop has a very nice selection of items.

Breathtaking views of the Atlantic, it is such an iconic landmark and I believe one of the top lighthouses in America. A must see when in the area.

Great way to spend some time with the kids while the fish are not biting. Make sure you bring them all the way up

Came here with 3 children ages 8-13 and everybody loved it! A mildly challenging walk of about 140 steps to the top of the lighthouse (ordered and commissioned by President George Washington in 1796!) gave a gorgeous 360 degree view of ocean and cliffs. It's a long ride out to the point, but well worth it - you'll feel like you really are at the endmost point of something, and you can't argue with the historic nature of the site!

Montauk Point Lighthouse at the tip of Long Island. A great day trip or vacation stop. Be sure to take a walk around the lighthouse for great views.

Driving up and seeing Montauk Lighthouse perched up on the hill is breathtaking !
Seeing only by water a few times it was well worth the ride out to see it. There was no charge for parking and a charge to go onto the Lighthouse grounds that includes a great museum and a trip up to the top of the lighthouse. I’m not sure what all the pricing was but there was a senior price.
The grounds were perfectly kept and all the staff was very friendly and accommodating.

This is definitely not worth the money. Its an interesting piece of history but they nickel and dime you to death. Eight dollars to park, Twelve dollars per person to walk in and then the gift shop... This is a government park that receives its proceeds from tax payers already so this is ridiculous. I could have lived with the cost if the service would have been better. Other than the man at the top of the lighthouse the staff were all rude beyond belief. There are so many other interesting parks in the area to see, so don't waste your time or money.

More beautiful than I remember. I haven't been here since I was a child. I made it to the top. lol I wasn't sure I would go up.

Wonderful views from the Montauk lighthouse! After enjoying the lighthouse head to the rocky beach below.

a good view from the top, disappointing that you cant actually walk around the top the lighthouse outside, there is just a small ledge to stand on for one person. We cycled there with the children, it took a while. Great bar next door for food and drinks. I thought the lighthouse was quite expensive for what it was.

Great place to check out when visiting Montauk! We really enjoyed the beautiful ocean views from the cliffs.

Free parking after 4pm...we arrived around 6. Plenty of parking. Cute lighthouse and area. It was rather cool, so take a sweater/jacket.

If you’re at Montauk State Park, take some time to check out the lighthouse. You really are at the “end” of Long Island. The actual lighthouse tower was closed due to COVID, but you can still walk the grounds, museum, and gift shop (all of this is separate of the park and there is an admission fee). Great history and a beautiful view and sea breeze. This was my bucket list item for Long Island...definitely worth it!

Never a disappointment to visit Montauk Light house.
Beautiful peaceful. A true gem. Great crowd. Nice gift shop

Counterintuitive, but instead walk around the lighthouse along the giant erosion boulders on the ocean. It is so fun and safe.

It’s is as beautiful as a scene can be the lighthouse and museum are amazing. COVID means no tower right now but the grounds the museum and the gift shop are so worth it. Definitely coming back.

Visited here, but didn’t go for $10 entry fee per person, because you can’t go up into lighthouse bacon COVID-19. Nice drive out to see it.

The area by the lighthouse - is just a beautiful ocean view and lovely to walk around. You can walk up the cliff area and see a great view.

The lighthouse is interesting with lots of history and on a clear day the view is excellent from this eastern most point of Long Island...
Line to the observation deck is long and slow moving, the exhibits are old and being renovated, and the grounds are hilly.
Beware, the traffic on the way out and back is horrible.... it's a one lane each direction road with lights, and bumper to bumper traffic for miles and miles... IMO, traffic conditions should be your first consideration in visiting the lighthouse.
PS, bring your own food and snacks... on premise restaurant not so good (https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g48194-d4838525-r698345996-Lighthouse_Grill_at_Montauk_Point_Lighthouse-Montauk_Long_Island_New_York.html)
PPS, didn't like the Hamptons... not that scenic, limited access to crowded beaches, expensive parking, shi-shi stores, all restaurants had long waits.

Very pretty lighthouse but unfortunately all the grounds are closed for the winter. It would have been nice to have been able to walk around the grounds of the lighthouse even if the light house itself was closed for the winter.

Well maintained orginal light house and museum.
Well worth a visit. Museum staff very knowledgeable and helpful.
Climbed to top of lighthouse wonderful views out to sea.

Nice the family visit even with the $8 parking (good the other parks close by) and the $15 for each adult to bet on grounds. All well maintained and nice inside building. Line was very long to go up the lighthouse tower so we skipped.

Lovely place to visit with some cracking views and nice museum to walk around, the park area is lovely to walk around too.

The lighthouse sits at the very tip of the south fork of Long Island, affectionately referred to as "The End." This National Historic Landmark boasts a museum with a bevy of history from George Washington to Roosevelt's Rough Riders to Amistad and more. The entire family can enjoy the day here with a playground, hiking, fishing, and ocean beach access (not for swimming, but don't forget your sunscreen). The 137 spiral stair climb to the top of the lighthouse is the best part of the visit for me. The views are magnificent and the air is intoxicating! If you plan ahead, you can take advantage of outdoor events such as Lighthouse Weekend, the Great Eastern Music Festival or a terrific local band at the park's concession restaurant. If you prefer, you can pack your own food for a picnic on the beach or playground area tables.
There is a fee for parking ($8/day between 8am-4pm) and the lighthouse ($11 adult, $8 senior, $4 child), but the money is well spent. The lighthouse hours change seasonally and weather permitting. It is typically open daily during the summer hours and only on weekends in the off-season. Check their website for up to date info.

The museum was wonderful with very friendly and knowledgeable staff. I enjoyed learning the lighthouse's history!

End of the world as they call it
-It is worth checking out as the views are nice and historic in itself
-It is definitely overpriced, but if you go all the way out here you might as well go up the light house
- there is also a fee for parking
- bathrooms available
-small gift shop on site

We paid $8.00 for admission even though we were both well over 65 years old but we were NC residents .trust me we did not mind paying until .... I attempted to try & take a pic @ foot of driveway of the lighthouse. It would have taken 4 minutes . A nasty, aggressive power hungry lady would not allow me . I explained I would not be going into lighthouse -both of us share a fear of heights . We had just spent over $100. In the gift shop & I refused to spend $8.00 to take a picture . At this point it was a matter of what was right .
I used to have a home in EH & would bring guests many times to view the beautiful Montauk Pt lighthouse .it is now all roped off & non- inviting . Especially with that aggressive witch overseeing but guess greed is more important than kindness .
To note it was my husbands first trip to Montauk Pt. & Could not believe how I was treated !

A little pricey just to walk in, ($35 for 3 of us) but beautiful and full of history! Great spot for photos!

This whole area is beautiful, and the lighthouse is just one of the many stops to make along the way. The beach/bay was beautiful. Great beach combing for sure. The weather was cool with intermittent rain, but we forged on! Their bathrooms are a bonus. Not only are they very clean and well stocked, they had them heated so you had a place to warm up besides the car. There was also a nice playground for the kids. Animals on leashes are welcome.

A must for anyone going to Montauk. Go there by any means. The views are outstanding and the lighthouse is in a park with acres and acres to walk around. Very nice indeed.

BRRRR...I guess this was to be expected April 1st. But I love lighthouses and had to take the drive out. it did not disappoint. The site is closed except weekends this time of year, just FYI. It says no surfing, but there was a bunch of people doing just this. Crazy! I can image what summer traffic is like as it is a single lane in and out. The ocean was raging today, so pretty to see.

Entry to the Lighthouse and gift shop was closed this visit, but I took a walk around the grounds. Grass/weeds could be better maintained but the views were nice. Worth a visit if you’re in the area.

This lighthouse is a top attraction in Montauk and I would reccomend it. Go here for a good time!!!!

The very end of Long Island is as picture postcard perfect as every other part of the Hamptons and Montauk.
No wonder all the movie stars live around here. It’s amazing. The houses and streets are equally secluded and stunning.
Why can’t I move here? Oh yeah money.
The light house is fenced in so visitors have to pay to get right up close. But the fence doesn’t block your view and you can get close enough to enjoy it without having to pay. Savings like this and we’ll all have enough money to live here.
Even on a bad weather day the lighthouse looked majestic and the land around it was manicured to the point of elegance. It was a 15 minute drive to get here. I stared at the lighthouse for 5 minutes and then went back. I can’t not recommend enough.

This eastern tip area of Long Island is very pretty and not nearly as crowded as the Hamptons proper. The lighthouse was commissioned by George Washington. The attendants were very nice and we were able to climb to the top of the lighthouse for amazing views of western Long Island and even the Connecticut coastline.

Montauk Point Lighthouse is a straightforward, 18th‑century masonry tower in an extraordinary site, more piece of coastal infrastructure than architectural spectacle. The real power of the visit is treating it as a calibrated viewing device onto the larger territory—the tight spiral climb opening to a 360-degree panorama where coastline, shipping routes, and the meeting of land and Atlantic all snap into scale.

stairs to go up are scary
Gentleman noticed I didn't go up , he felt bad I paid for it, so he gave me a little souvenir, which was really nice

When we were little and my sister and I got bored, my dad used to tell us to take a walk to Montauk Point. Over 60 years later, we took him up on it and it was well worth going to. Such a beautiful area and the museum is very interesting. We did not go up in the lighthouse but even without that, the view of the ocean is lovely.

The tip of long island is beautiful. They let you walk around the boulders in front of the lighthouse which is great. However, we visited on a Saturday in January and the lighthouse was closed. Still would say it is a "must see" location

We visited the Montauk Point Lighthouse from Queens and the drive wasn’t too bad about 2.5 hours. It was totally worth the trip to check out the beautiful lighthouse and seascape.
During COVID-19, the museum in the lighthouse was closed but tourists can take a walk by the coastal line. The arrangement of the parking lot was great, all the cars were required to keep social distancing.
The trails are flat and perfect for all family members from elders to kids. It was also wonderful for a picnic.

There is a parking fee when you park here since it is State run. If you want to walk around and hike it's all free but if you want to go into the lighthouse museum area you will need to purchase a ticket. Otherwise you will only need to pay for the parking.

Beautiful views of the light house well worth the trip. Cute little restaurant and gift shop. Will always remember our first trip together here. Highly recommended

This is the official end of Long Island. Very famous light house with a park. I believe there is a ferry not far off with rides to Block Island, RI. It's not far off.

Highly recommend taking in this sight on Long Island. Quite the contrast if you’re visiting Manhattan. The landscape is beautiful and the views are breathtaking. The lighthouse has been well preserved and provides a window into the past. Don’t mind the steep climb up the lighthouse because it is well worth it weather permitting.

you can go up to the top of lighthouse for great views and great info on area. you can also stop in to the café for drinks, food and eat outside looking at the ocean. the walk along the rocks are great to do.

I drove all the way out to the Hamptons on a visit to Smithtown and they really do turn back to the locals after the Summer. I ate lunch with people who were mostly in construction, farming and fishing.
Montauk is super quiet this time of year and is the best time to come. The lighthouse may be closed but you can see it from the fence. You can still walk around the local park and lucky for me the bathrooms are still open. The lighthouse museum is open on the weekends though. For me, I got to see the lighthouse from a distance and walk around the park area. What was really nice was the giant wreath that decorated it for the holidays.
Off season, there is nothing much open around it and Montauk the town is really quiet. Not a bad place to visit on a peaceful week day.

I encourage my college students attending ESL programs to explore what NY offers. That includes a day trip to Montauk. I usually arrange for everyone to sign up for one of the LIRR Getaway packages celebrating Montauk's Lighthouse family day weekend in August. The fee includes RT train fare to/from Montauk, the coach bus service to 3 designated Montauk sites (the lighthouse, town of Montauk & Gosman's Dock), and admission to the lighthouse. Family day activities include military reenactments centered around the lighthouse common to an earlier period of American history. The lighthouse museum with miniature replicas of neighboring lighthouses is quite informative. Depending on the time of day, there can be a wait to climb to the top of the lighthouse- maybe 20 minutes or so. The ocean view: magnificrnt! The town of Montauk has an art fair the same weekend and is located only blocks from the Atlantic Ocean beach. Gosman's Dock is a must for boat watching while eating a lobster roll either at Topside or at Gosman's next door. I've scheduled my class trip again this Aug. 18th. See you in Montauk.

Drove out to the end of Long Island on a nice sunny day, and enjoyed the lighthouse and the views. Not sure if it's always like this, but the waves rolling past the lighthouse looked pretty big and powerful. They also do an entertaining pirate re-enactment.

We visited years ago but since moving to Long Island a year ago we never visited and decided to do so. Views are stunning and you won't be disappointed. We got there quite early to avoid any crowds, the lighthouse isn't open to the public but the grounds and museum are. It was a beautiful evening spent.

You have to see it to appreciate it. It is worth going. What we did not know: Parking is $8. Lighthouse is closed at present, but the museum is open ($10/adult). I am unsure whether the closure is Covid or renovation-related. The shoreline walk is a must if you have a beautiful day and ability to walk over big boulders. We sat and enjoyed the splashing waves at our feet as we looked out into the Atlantic.

The lighthouse has a nice museum and than you are able to walk up to the top. Its very nice. After you can do a trail or two by the beach. It was a great time.

Great place to visit. Lots of interesting displays and so much history. The historian was so friendly and gave us even more info. I really enjoyed our visit and highly recommend it!

Cold rainy windy day on which we took a drive out to Montauk from Northport with our American relative acting as tour guide. Loved the lighthouse - had its Christmas lights on too! Saw seals in the sea hanging with the brave surfers.

The museum is meh, but the views are pretty. Bonus- we saw whales breaching! That made the $10 each entrance fee worth it.

Unfortunately when we went it was closed. The closest we could get was to the closed sign. We were excited to see the actual lighthouse but we think it was closed since the weather was “not permitting”. We recommend you double check even if the hours are state they are open.

Went to the end of Long Island to see the Montauk Point Lighthouse, and its under repair. That happens and not upset by it, but we chose not to pay the $12 per person fee while crains were running up the side of the lighthouse which has had its paint sand blasted off.
Just bricks now, not the famous black and white stripes. The lighthouse is in danger of falling into the ocean so major renovations to fix the erosion.
I would wait until 2023 before planning a trip up here. It just doesn't look the same!

I enjoy looking at the lighthouse from the bluff above Turtle Cove, accessible from the parking area and walking trails of the same name, West of the actual lighthouse, but past the entrance to Camp Hero, from the one-way loop road.

Beautiful view, nice view from climbing to the top (only 6 sets of stairs), and gorgeous trails around it. NOTE: The hours say open til 4 BUT they close the ticket counter when the line to go to the top will finish by 4. When we left at 3:15pm they were closing the gate so no one could enter because the wait to get to the top was 40 minutes!! Important!!
One other thing...you only have to pay for parking at either the lighthouse or the state park entrance before 4pm. The parking fee works at both places. Free after 4.
If I did this all over again, I would park at the state park and walk to the lighthouse so you get the cliff and beach views on the way. We did this walk anyway so really no need to move the car.

If you have not been there go and see it for yourself. It is amazing to stand at the “lands end” and see nothing but the ocean ahead of you. Climb to the top of the lighthouse for a breathtaking view, be careful and wear sturdy shoes, not flip flops, the steps are narrow and steep and people are going in both directions at the same time, up and down.

The setting is lovely but the lighthouse is only open on weekends during the off season. Walking around the area was pleasant but I can't comment on the lighthouse as well since it was closed

This place is very interesting, worthy visiting and lots of stairs to reach the top. Once on top you can enjoy a stunning view of the bay.

You’ll pay $8 to park here, only to discover that you can’t get anywhere near the lighthouse without forking out an additional $11 per person for a closer view.
Lunch in the nearby bar will set you back for $60 for 2 sandwiches (which were very nice), along with one beer and one soda. That’s $100 to see a lighthouse and have a light lunch.

Definitely a beautiful spot. Great views and museum & shop are good too. Dropped a star for the nasty woman at the parking lot. Still, worth a visit

$8 to park and then $12 to visit the lighthouse. Cafe and toilets like a disgusting shack.
Drive past and save your money.

Great up close and at a distance. Nice, small museum/exhibit. Strikingly well-kept, large lighthouse. Fantastic views of the water and rocky beach areas.
Just a nice, peaceful venue

This is a must place to visit if you are traveling to Mauntauk, NY.. Whether you are a nautical history or not follower, the museum offers a lot of interesting facts abiut this lighthouse. There is also a museum shop in the vicinity for your favorite souvenirs to bring home. The place is also a delight for photographers.

This experience was nothing that I had experienced before. I found it very fascinating. Highly recommend

This is not only a lighthouse, it is also a great museum and a place where they try to beat mother nature from taking down the lighthouse into the Atlantic. Very interesting place.

we went with friends to remember where they got engaged . That was fun but to pay $8 i believe to park and walk around and then to disappoint the kids as it was then another $11 per head to go inside the area of the lighthouse and walk around or go to the top - way to expensive - pricing should be included in the parking fee .

Great lighthouse with knowledgable staff and limited but interesting history of the lighthouse and the keepers who maintained it. The climb to the top is thrilling but take the warnings seriously! If you are not in great health or get dizzy in tight spaces, this is not a climb for you. We made it to the top with a teenager and a pre-teen, and it was fine although challenging wiht the tight steps. The view from the top is a 'wow' though - must see if you visit Montauk.

Very kind staff, our friend got a free ride due to birthday. When you go to the top of the lighthouse you will get a view of the entire Montauk area. The old original light is preserved and displayed on the ground floor

this is a fantastic historical lighthouse on long islands east end. Views from the top of lighthouse are spectacular, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and the surrounding point. Extremely windy, but picturesque. At busy times, especially weekends, there is a longer wait to get to the top. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The gift shop actually has unique nautical gifts for sale, not the usual cheap stuff.Afterwards we went for a trail walk in area around lighthouse, mother nature at her finest..............

Very scenic. Park and walk trails or view beautiful ocean. If you like to be adventurous walk rocks that go around light house.

It was a great place to visit with awesome view. Highly recommend. Drive was a bit long thru local towns but was worth it.

This was our first time in Montauk. Our visit to the Lighthouse was a highlight. The museum and the artifacts were quite interesting. The view from the top was spectacular in all directions. All the docents were quite nice and helpful.. Be sure to take a path down to the shore and walk along the huge boulders. They look formidable but really were not. Just a small jump from rock to rock and the view is quite worth it. I'm 70 and was able to handle it without problem. Go back at night and see the lighthouse lit up.

Montauk Point Lighthouse has some serious history - having been built during George Washington's presidency. The museum and light house will surprise you - particularly the successful 20th century effort to retard the erosion that was endangering this working light house. Climb to the top. The views are excellent.

the scenery , the local
shops. feeding the wildlife. The water was still warm. Lots of wildlife to look at. Many

museums

I’ve been coming to Montauk for years and never went. We had a rainy day on this trip so I thought “why not?” We had fun and learned a lot at the museum. There’s a well-appointed gift shop and the staff is quite knowledgeable. Go be a tourist. It’s worth it.

A very interesting historical place to visit. Parking and facilities were very good. take the opportunity to walk the beach and visit the onsite shop.

Years ago the title of this piece was part of Montauk slogan since it is located at the end of the south fork of Long Island New York. While it is possible to see the majority of the exterior of the lighthouse without gaining access the admission also includes the ability to walk the spiral staircase very top of the lighthouse enjoy the view of the Long Island sound. It’s a long ride out and the going gets slow as you travel through the Hamptons but the payoff is well worth the time spent.

This lighthouse is a must see when you are in the Montauk area but do yourself a favour - especially if your a photographer - a walk the beach from its left. Lovely angle on it with the pebbles the beach.

We visited the lighthouse on 2 days. The area around is beautiful. Some people went up the stairs, I think 130, but the spiral stairs are very small. Very interesting museum, video and many pictures. At our time a tour guide was around and could answer us our questions.

This was a fun place to stop at and have a fun time. It is very nice and I recommend it for everyone.

While visiting my wife's aunt at Bethpage LI, we decided to take a weekday drive out to Montauk. Weather was clear and the roads were not crowded. Highlight of the outing was a visit to the lighthouse. Such friendly staff and superb displays! Views were incredible! This was the unplanned surprise of our two-week vacation in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York.

This is my favourite place by the sea.
Good to go picnic, fishing, or take a picture with a beautiful view. Just go make your great time.

I can't mark the Lighthouse lower than the 13400 reviewers do. But6 I sadly note the decline of the3 Town of Montauk. My wife and I first came to Montauk for our honeymoon in 1972. My sister-ink-law lives on Eastern Long Island, and so we occasionally visit Montauk. Our family has noted, sadly, a noticeable decline in Montauk. It is much more crowded, and it seems the locals are fed jus with the tourists and the problems they bring anywhere. The Lighthouse remains a wonderful day visit, but the town of Montauk is no longer the place to stay. "Get out of town by sundown" is the phrase that comes to mind,

There are 137 steps, very interesting and informative. Beautiful views. This is worth checking out. A bit of history preserved for our enjoyment. Thank you George Washington!

Disappointed that we couldn’t visit the light house because it was undergoing renovation (April 2018) however still worth a visit to the nearby stone beach with its beautiful views. Nearby cafe is open and scenic walks all around.

What a privilege to see and be surrounded by this historical landmark. There was so much history to be learned here as well as to discover the method that was used to terrace the clif below the lighthouse to keep it from falling into the ocean. The docents are wonderful and so informative and really bring the role of the lightkeeper to life.

We drove all the way up there for the weekend that marked November 5, 1796….the day it was completed. However, that Sunday (November 6th) it was closed. I would have thought that weekend they would have had something special to mark 226 years…but it was closed! I would imagine that every anniversary they should do something….but No. we left disappointed. Everything was closed but the restaurant and the paid parking! Really? Why charge for parking when the lighthouse is closed?

Parking is $8 unless you have a lifetime NYS parks pass, then its free. Then there is a fee to go in to see the lighthouse and then a fee to climb the lighthouse. Lots of fees, yes, but the views are amazing. You don't have to climb the lighthouse and the views are still spectacular. There is also a small museum that is very informative and interactive. My kids love it! You can also hike around the outer parts of the lighthouse rocks. There is a small restaurant with outside seating with burgers, etc.

Definitely visit the lighthouse if you are in Montauk. The views are amazing from this location. The museum is very informative. A lot of history about this lighthouse. I love Montauk!

Be sure to "do" the museum at the base of the lighthouse- it will bring history alive especially with any questions you have answered by the great volunteer "Marti" with her enthusiasm and love for Montauk and this first lighthouse in NY state.

I love coming here every year it never gets old, Montauk is definitely the best place on the entire island

If you can manage the climb up the stairs, be sure to do it! The views are wonderful. A walk/climb on the rocks is also fun.

Nice modern, bright & clean museum in a former house. Well organized displays showing history of the area, native peoples, commissioning of the lighthouse by George Washington, saving the lighthouse area from erosion, invention of glass design for the beacons & much more. Everyone who came in seemed to enjoy the artifacts & displays, even the teenagers. Fun day!

We came here with family and it was a nice spot to visit. We were able to go to the top of the lighthouse and were able to see everything from up high. Definitely worth a visit if you are coming to Montauk. Would highly recommend.

We did a day trip out to eastern Long Island and one of the key things I wanted to see was the Montauk Lighthouse. The state park and the grounds are well maintained There are a picnic tables in the parks and hiking trails. You pay for parking which was not too expensive, The lighthouse has a separate entrance fee. There are renovations and repairs going on so you can't climb to tower. The house has a a nice self guided Museum. The weather was great so it was nice to sit on the benches or grass area and enjoy the beautiful views, Well worth the drive out.

To HISTORY, GEOGRAPHY and SOCIAL STUDIES Enthusiasts, this is the place for you! The tradition and history of lighthouses is well documented here.We left in awe of the stamina of the original light keepers and their families. They left us a legacy to admire. I shall never ever complain of the steps in my house again. Go visit Montauk's beam and you will know what I mean.

This lighthouse is a neat place to visit. It’s not posted but if you are a veteran they offer free admission; a very nice and unexpected surprise. Nonetheless, we donated. We walked up to the top and got a scenic 360° view of the area. There are about 135 steps in a circular stairwell. I walk with a cane but was able to make it. Make sure to stroll around the museum and read about the history. Outside you will find seawall rocks the go around the lighthouse. It’s relatively flat and easy makes for a great walk if you are an ocean and wave lover.

Skip paying to get in and take the trail down and around the front of the lighthouse. You will not regret it.

We paid a visit to Montauk and wanted to go to the lighthouse. The climb was a little strenuous, but once you are at the top...…..the views are really spectacular and worth the trip to the end of Long Island and the climb up.

We really enjoyed stargazing and watching the sunrise at this place. It has a very broad view without light pollution.

Excellent views. Great visit in nice weather. Bathrooms on site behind the gift shop you can access without paying. Entrance is a five-minute walk from the parking lot. Cool museum inside. Enjoyed the modern, digital screen with fish and other sea creatures. Didn't go up the lighthouse, so can't comment there.

Even with rain, great walks under trees and views from light house and restaurant (with a fireplace).
Mr. Hock is a wealth of knowledge and fun to speak with.
Find Washington’s signature; look at preservation models. Speak with light house staff. So willing to explain the history.

Even though there were quite some people with us, I felt completely at ease at this spot. You get a fantastic view of the ocean (especially when you go to the top of the lighthouse which is very worth it). I had my binoculars with me and I was observing the landscapes for around 15 minutes. Before we did a horseback riding tour at the beach whcih was also very great. Pure nature and fresh air, this feels very good after having been in NYC for a couple of days lol.

The lighthouse is beautiful. it's history is fascinating. We spent a wonderful afternoon inside the lighthouse itself and walking along the grounds, the beach, and eating at the cafe. It was a great afternoon .

You like nature, trails off the beaten path, beautiful view of ocean high and low? And don’t forget there’s a picturesque lighthouse to gaze at. A beautiful one that makes memorable pictures throughout the different landscapes you walk around to. Easy parking and the most easternmost part of NY state I’m told. Driving back you’ll go through a village where you can find food and shops. A little more down and the marina has terrific restaurants but cost $$$.

We kept driving from the Hamptons all the way out to the eastern tip of Long Island to see this amazing lighthouse. The weather out here was much better and you could see all the way to the horizon.

This is supposed to be a historical site. Those history enthusiasts are now made to pay very high sum as this is now made a cash cow by people running it.

Bummed out the light house is closed due to covid but we were able to walk around the premises which is probably what we would have ended up doing anyway. It’s a nice hour or two to do with family. Would recommend for anyone on Long Island looking for a quick trip to do thats local with kids.

great views; great interactive exhibits; friendly & knowledgeable staff. reasonably priced; strongly recommend

You can only climb the light house without any bags. There are no lockers to securely leave your bags not was there signage at the entrance to warn you before buying your ticket.
Given the camera gear in the bag we elected not to leave it and compromise our insurances.

Could only walk around, as the entrance gates were closed. Well kept property of this historic side. .Check the hours, before making this trip. You can go down to the water through picturesque bushes, but won’t be able to climb up the hill .

This is the icon of New York located in the tip of Long Island on Montauk point excellent location especially for tourists

Beautiful even in the dark rain!
We loved it and wish we were able to make it earlier!
We will add to our trip back in June!

Wonderful viewpoint, scenic grounds and interesting museum. We didn't have to wait to climb the lighthouse but stair access is metered and I'm sure there is a wait to ascend during busier times.

What a wonderful experience. The lighthouse was the first in New York state. It is situated on the end of Long Island so the views are stunning. The museum was super interesting. The docents demonstrated how the light used to be illuminated by cranking the gears. I had no problem paying the $15 admission fee. What I resented was the $8 parking fee. I think if someone purchases a ticket to go up in the lighthouse, parking should be included. Or have guests just visiting the surrounding park pay the $8.

We had a great visit here. I wish I could tell you about the inside. But I can’t, because we got there at closing time. To avoid disappointment, the opening hours are May 26-Sept 4, weekdays 10:30-17:30, weekends 10:30-19:00. What I can tell you (after reading the board on the outside) is that the lighthouse was the first to be built in NY State and it remains the 4th oldest working lighthouse in the whole of the US. It stands on a point that forms the very eastern end of Long Island and it really does feel like the end of the world. It’s a stunning spot, made even more stunning by a path of huge rocks that skirts the whole promontory below the lighthouse. Presumably the rocks have been placed here to reinforce the bluff and prevent the harsh Atlantic storms from undercutting the promontory. However, they have been placed in such a way as to provide (in good weather) a path leading all the way around. On the calm evening we were there a few fishermen were using rods and line to fish for “stripers”, or striped bass. We didn’t see anyone catch any fish, but we did see a seal on an evening hunting trip plus countless seabirds.

Great family day- hiked the trails, walked the lighthouse museum, climbed the rocks!
A good 2 hours of family time!

We love visiting the park around the lighthouse every time we visit Montauk. Beautiful views and chill rocky beach. We only ever go in the off season, so can’t speak to summer crowd levels.

We have been long time second homeowners in East Hampton and to this day still regard the MTK Light as a must see treasure for our family and guests. Whether from land or sea, the views are breathtaking from this incredible vantage point. One of the most special highlights is to see the lighthouse during the holidays with the special Christmas lighting...AMAZING!
Please do not frown on admission fee when visiting the grounds, it is well worth it...and helps to maintain and preserve this national treasure.

What a great place. Really well told history in the visitors centre at the base of the lighthouse couple with a chance to climb the 130+ steps to the top. Really pleasant volunteer (?) staff who brought the history to life.
Ventured over to the George Washington bar / care afterwards, for burger / chips / beer and game of shuffleboard (complimentary) a what a great place and really nice staff. Wished we were staying closer so we could stay longer and get p****d here.
Don't forget to do the beach edge walk around the light house to see the marvellous terracing (erosion prevention efforts). Path from bar goes right around. Felt safe but my 75 year old mum was terrified - bless her.

Very nice lighthouse, interesting small museum. The surrounding is beautiful to see the ocean landscapes. There was a queue to climb the stairs to the upper lighthouse level. When getting there we were allowed to take a look from an upper stair - not much of a view there because it was surrounded by glass and raining. Overall- definitely worth an hour visit.
Beautiful Lighthouse!
This lighthouse is beautiful. The view of the Atlantic Ocean is breathtaking. The complex has bike racks and is biking distance from the city center. There is also a nature learning center on site, which may be of interest to children.
