Peaceful Nature Visit

By Sparrowj55 |

This is a must do when visiting southeast Florida. It has a mile walk around a beautiful lake. The walk has many side curves, but they quickly come back to the main path. There is plenty of shade, but I always bring a bottle of water. I love seeing the different birds, turtles, koi, native fish and alligators. Buy some fish food for a dollar and dole it out as you travel. Right now they have an exhibit of five new artists. Their art is so beautiful and exciting!

Peaceful as Ever

By Pconwaynyc |

We visited Morikami in March—just me, my wife, and our son. Even with a good number of people around, the walk through the gardens felt as peaceful as ever.

We’ve been coming here for about 15 years now. It was one of my wife’s father’s favorite places, and there’s a memorial for him here that we always stop by. It adds a special layer of meaning to each visit.

The exhibits are always worth a look, and the gift shop is a gem. Morikami, and Delray Beach in general, continues to be one of our favorite places to return to.

Lovely serene gardens

By arbogdan |

Beautiful place to visit including indoor exhibits,Beautiful gift shop and Library. Go early if you want a fantastic lunch I would recommend the salmon.Japanese gardens are lovely to walk around, Bring a hat and sunscreen. Do not miss the Japanese house with historical information about Japanese settlers in this area. The bonsai collection is special. If you are able to attend one of their festivals, I would highly recommend it.

Had a Great Time

By Tony |

We had a great time walking around the gardens this afternoon. The weather in South Florida is amazing this time of year so the family and I are always looking for fun trails. I highly recommend!

A little bit of Japan in Florida

By suzeq71 |

Beautiful walk in the gardens. Spectacular setting that is serene and clean. Lot's of seating opportunities to enjoy the views. Enjoy the carefully manicured landscspe in the typical Japanese theme.
Restaurant had very good food and portions were plentiful.
Wheelchair accessible.

A Bit of the Orient Right in Delray

By KetoBeach |

Step back in time and a world away in a day visit to this incredible and peaceful japanese garden right in Delray. This is an outdoor museum, mostly, with a theater and shop located inside. As the double doors part and you make your way down the steps overlooking an expansive lake, you will quickly feel like you are in a remote and heavenly part of Japan. To the right of the stairs as you descend is a japanese inspired restaurant offering Pan Asian food called the Cornell Cafe. I didn't eat there so won't comment on the food but it's view is magnificent and will give you a chance to relax after visiting the sprawling grounds. I was there more to film my experience and talk a little about the history of the place which you can see on my you tube channel keto beach in the video titled "Keto vs Intermittent Fasting: Which is Better?"

Excellent Japanese Garden

By redcameraop |

Having visited many different Japanese gardens around the world, Morikami is one of the largest, with room still to grow. While not as refined as some of the others, the shear scale and high level of execution make it a definite do not miss in the area. I can’t wait to go back in the future.

Morikami - an Oasis in the heart of Delray

By Lisa N |

Peace, serenity and tranquility is how I would describe the grounds at Morikami. Lush foliage with reflective pools abound. This is a great place to walk in the afternoons to escape the hustling sounds of traffic ridden Delray.

nice way to spend a few hours

By JulieL1472 |

There are lots of different garden areas, and an interesting "museum" about Japanese culture. Having lived in Japan, it took me back in a good way. The food at the restaurant is actually good and it isn't over priced.

Hatsumi Fair

By patriciamC4710MC |

This semi-annual attraction is fun-filled, educational and appealing to all ages. Only drawback was crowded parking lots.

Nice relaxing place

By Beverly C |

The gardens were beautiful and very peaceful. Our Grand kids had a great time. I would definitely recommend.

Out of Season

By Linda P |

I have many beautiful photos of Morikami from various visits in the past.
This is not the time for a regular visit. The original museum building, Yamato-kan, is closed for renovations. There are no birds or ornamental koi to be seen. There are better times for a visit to these lovely gardens.
The Lantern Festival is Outstanding and should not be missed.

A beautiful Japanese Garden and Museum – must see

By Ward D |

This location is in Delray Beach, Fl. Just to the west of S Jog Road. There is plenty of parking and a fee to enter but it is well worth it. Fee allows you to stroll the gardens and see the museum. The gardens are a pleasant stroll through various parts of the garden around a lake, over bridges and through rock gardens. We have visited during the floating candle festival and just as a treat during the day. It is always a pleasant visit and the gardens are always well kept and beautiful. If it gets too hot walking around the gardens then the museum and the café were both pleasant breaks from the gardens . I highly recommend this place to all my fellow travelers. Enjoy.

Visionary depiction of the classic garden

By mark s |

I was amazed by the overall size of the grounds, having had no expectations about it.I was thinking of a comparison to the JG in Portland, but this one is larger in acreage. This expansive property boasts a secluded walking trail, among its many charms. I had time to burn, and took a break for lunch between walking both ends of the property. Very enjoyable despite being a Friday and crowded.

Peaceful, tranquil , beautiful sunny day

We brought our friends here / they never were here !

Peaceful, go there , u will
Be amazed and relaxed .
We had lunch there too at the Cornell Café !

Peaceful and beautiful

By Traveler2AM |

It has been a few years since I visited this museum and garden. It is still a wonderful place. This visit started with a very nice welcome at the front door by a volunteer named Michael. Next was Linda the cashier who was also very welcoming.

The grounds are still beautiful and excellently groomed. The restaurant is still serving food, but instead of table service, one places an order and picks it up at the counter. The food and prices are still very good. The cashiers were very nice even though they were very busy.

There is also a theater which I did not go into.

The museum, although small, has some very attractive items.

All this with plenty of parking makes for a very peaceful time filled with beauty.

Nature’s meditation garden

By MarcTuna127 |

Absolute beautiful place to visit and stroll through this peaceful Zen like landscaped attraction. You walk away feeling like you just had an hour class of meditation yoga

Tranquil and serene

By audreylebowitz |

This is a very serene and gorgeous park to visit. This was our first time here. It is handicapped accessible with ramps. However many of the walkways are gravel and sand. I was able to push the manual wheelchair for the most part. There were only a few times where we got stuck. We also ate lunch at the Japanese cafe. We had a lovely hot lunch. I would highly recommend this place. I wish I was alone to read a good book on one of the many benches. It was so tranquil. There is also a museum on premises.

Sophisticated Experience

By Mr. D |

Their program is well structured, their garden is gorgeous, and their staff is kind. The menu at their cafe is delectable and affordable. We had a great time and we've planned to become members.

Tranquility at its best

By Kim M |

I was raised in south Florida and somehow never had the opportunity to visit this beauty . We decided to stop on the way back north after our cruise debarkation and it was worth the stop! Bonsai trees, bamboo, and pagodas, oh my!

Worth a visit. Nice museum, sub-par gardens

By SabrinaG_reviews |

At the entrance of the gardens is a rather excellent museum, in itself worth the $15 entrance fee. With the exception of a few high points which are lovely spots for meditation or camera work, the gardens are not well kempt, and an example of a traditional Japanese house on the grounds is badly outdated.

There is a nice bonsai collection.

The gardens at Morikami are best visited during winter or early spring, otherwise the heat makes for a tedious stroll. There are several nice sculptures and structures along the pathways and plenty of seating if you need to rest frequently.

If you don't expect immaculate surrounds like those at Temple Ryoan-ji or Kenroku-en, you'll probably enjoy Morikami. Just don't expect a great attention to detail in the gardens.

Peaceful & tranquil experience

By vince353 |

Went on Saturday, we were about 20th in line. Parking lot busy. Once inside park didn’t seem crowded. As park is spacious so social distancing is not hard to do. Beautiful manicure park. Spent 2-3 hours taking our time.

Family trip

By Sue M |

This was the most Beautiful peaceful place that I’ve seen in a long time. Did not expect to have a place like this in Florida. Totally worth the visit plan on a couple hours to go through the entire place and really enjoy it.

Beautiful gardens and facilities - a must see.

By jackfrost0904 |

Gardens are nestled into a neighborhood of sorts and are very quiet and peaceful. The grounds are impeccably maintained and are very inviting for a visit. It was not crowded when we were there, so it was easy to be isolated in the surroundings. We ate at the Cornell Cafe, and although it is basic, the food and service was excellent. Would happily visit again.

Beauty, Culture, History

By Lynn60726 |

These gardens are not only beautiful but also tell so many stories about the history of Japan and the history of Japanese "colonists" in Florida. Our tour guide, Sandy, clearly knew the gardens thoroughly and was outstanding in conveying so much to us and to our 11 and 12 year old grandsons. As much as we learned, I feel it will take many visits to really grasp all that this museum and gardens has to offer. Loved it.

A magnificent afternoon...

By James Weaver |

Plan on spending more time than you think. You will enjoy every minute of the beauty of this place. With more around each corner. And then the American Orchid Society has unbelievable flowers on display.

Lovely garden walk

By SandyCNM |

We went to this Japanese garden on a cloudy day, in search of a day trip. Plan on 3-4 hours. Eat lunch at the cafe before starting your stroll through the garden. There was no docent tour available so the $5 hand held device was worth renting. We learned the history of the Japanese settlers in the area and the struggles they faced before returning to Japan.

Ok.

By TheCovertCritic |

Being appreciative of colorful gardens, these gardens were not to my taste. I understand that these are based upon a completely different concept but if I had the chance to do over I wouldn't choose colorless over colorful for the admission price which was fairly high. As a senior I paid $12. There was adequate parking and the onsite cafe was excellent.

Quick Trip

By Cindy PR |

First time back since they closed due to COVID-19. Members only events will be starting up again soon.

Wonderful garden, excellent Japanese food!

By Amariarin |

It is so peaceful there! I loved it. Beautiful botanical garden with many zen areas that transport you into a meditative-like experience. It is also a great source of information about Japanese culture. And, of course, the cafe with delicious food to complete the experience.

World class gardens and tea ceremony

By Allan S |

This place is just awesome. You can lose your worries here while walking through this pristine
garden with amazing trees, water, building structures and a little curly restaurant and tea room. They have a small gift shop as well. Specimum trees are here as well. Fabulous place. To visit and you can even have weddings or parties here. Check out the photos

Big Japanese Garden

By Clyde B |

Beatiful walk around a lake. About a mile...some stairs. A nice bonsai collection. Not well presented. Most of the bonsai were in the back under sprinklers. Bonsai garden display area could be updated and enlarged. Koi and turtles were beautiful. Very nice walkways.$13 for seniors and $15 for adults. Great free parking. In Delray off jog ave from Linton ave.

A slice of Japan in South Florida

By AndreaUbok |

We never bore of the Morikami and I’m so glad they were opened and we could walk around outdoors on such a beautiful day. Young Japanese Farmers moved here in the early 1900s to farm pineapple they called themselves the Yamato agricultural Co Op. Yomato Is the ancient name for Japan. The Morikami family lived here until they were in their 80s. They are buried on the property and donated their estate to Palm Beach County. Surprisingly, the Morikami is the only Japanese cultural center and garden outside of Japan. What’s left of their 16 acre estate is truly magical!
This morning we walked around the lake stopping to admire the sculptures, flowers, water features, monuments and pristine gardens. In the Karesansui Late Rock Garden a Curator shared information about the maintenance, gravel, mindfulness, history and technique of dry landscape raking. I’m always impressed with the bonsai collection, it’s only one out of three named a World bonsai friendship Federation center.
Disappointed that the Japanese restaurant is closed during Covid. The small gift shop has a lot of authentic clothing, jewelry, tableware, gifts… There is a small museum featuring Japanese artist and films on premises as well. I’m so glad we live so close to this treasure!

Very nice if you are into outdoor gardens & bonsai - particularly Japanese Gardens of course

By Derek S |

If you are looking for a nice outdoor stroll and you enjoy landscaping and gardens this is the place for you. I suggest you check it out if this is something interesting and in your wheelhouse.

Beautiful Bonsai’s and Gorgeous Gardens

By Marnette S |

Our family has a special interest in bonsai’s and the Japanese culture. How fortunate we were to discover the Morikami Museum
and Gardens on a trip to Delray Beach.

We arrived at 11:00 on a stunning Sunday: sunshine and cool weather with a slight breeze. The parking lot was already filled so we parked in overflow parking a short distance from the entrance.
Others have suggested visiting during the week if possible. I agree. The walk around the lake is gravel, the reason other reviews have mentioned wearing close-toed shoes.

We took advantage of the senior ($13.98) and military admission($14.95) rates. Once paid and given admission bracelets, we received a map and brief orientation by a helpful docent. The two-sided map details 25 stops around the lake, an easy .5 mile walk dotted with many benches and places to stop and absorb the beautiful views.

Two restrooms are available in the registration building and another along the path around the lake. We were not at all bothered by bugs or mosquitoes in late February.

We enjoyed learning more about the bonsai culture in the Morikami Bonsai Collection. Bonsai, literally, “tray-planting” are trees or groupings of trees artistically-shaped and cultivated in a container. It was interesting to learn the date each tree was grown and then the year it was put “in training” to become a specific bonsai shape.

Rock gardens, bridges, islands, bridges, waterfalls, gates, displays, koi, basking turtles and more will keep you enchanted and visually inspired. Don’t forget to seek out the Buddha, Hotei, the resident god of happiness. He’s not as large as anticipated.

We did walk through the gift shop which was expensive. We left 1:00 pm. I was hoping to get a highly-recommended Bento Box but we didn’t have enough time to wait in the long line at prime lunch time.

Excellent japanese garden

By Dale S |

Take the tour with one of the docents. That is the best way to learn all about the garden and appreciate it. There is also a movie in the theater that wi well worth watching. The gardens are beautiful. They have a very nice restaurant on the grounds that I recommend also.

Must see - already looking forward to our next visit

By Rob P |

Beautiful gardens - a peaceful environment in which to spend some time. A beautiful display of traditional Japanese culture.

Garden

By AnAnthropologist |

Although we live nearby we had never been here. We had a pleasant walk around the gardens but the museum was closed the day of our visit and I thought that it was pricy just to see the gardens.

Beautiful and relaxing!!

By lalocadr19 |

Went to the museum on Sunday. Advised wear some bug spray some areas can have many flying bugs. The museum has plenty of parking, must paid to enter$15 adult children $9. The garden has plenty of area to enjoy the beautiful trees, bonsai area and waterfall area is my favorite.

Beautiful and Peaceful

By jensparks05 |

This was our second visit to Morikami, and I wouldn't mind visiting every year. The grounds are meticulously maintained, and the atmosphere is very peaceful. Sushi from the cafe is delicious.

Definitely Worth a Visit

By EDDIE APPLEFELD |

This is a 16 acre attraction with over 7,000 objects. It's basically all walking. A one mile loop. Take your time. Lots to see along the way, including wildlife. Also a gift shop and fine restaurant.

A Magnificent Garden with a Local and Museum with a Japanese Eatery with Lake View

By tizbetweenuandme1233@aol.com |

The gardens are beautiful, and a wonderful place to go hiking. The museum itself is very pleasant and the eatery has a view of the gardens. Short of the beach, the gardens is one of the most beautiful places in Palm Beach County.

Fabulous place yo relax in with an abundance of walking trails, nice gift store, good restaurant snd sn art gallery . T

By Allan S |

A wonderful place to get away from troubles tgss as t bother you. The types of plants snd trees are amazing as are the types of wildlife and birds who inhabit the gardens.
A true spit mitbyo
Miss seeing.

Peaceful, relaxing, beautiful gardens and ponds

By PatD |

This was my first time here, my friends had been there before. It is a spectacular Japanese garden with amazing plantlife, relaxing ponds and waterfalls. The land was donated by a Japanese immigrant who had a large orchard. Wandering trails, wooden bridges, hidden benches and the abundance of plant life make it a peaceful, almost spiritual place to visit. The slower you wander, the more you see. Children might get bored unless they enjoy a slower place. There is a place to purchase food and a beautiful gift shop as well.

Beautiful gardens

By M Davis |

We absolutely loved the gardens. Everything was beautiful and well-managed. I would definitely recommend Morikami or couples, visiting relatives, and families with older (8+) children.

Wonderful Gardens

By Cindy L |

Spent a whole day wandering the gardens here. There are many benches throughout the park to sit down and just enjoy being surrounded by this by this beautiful garden. The restaurant was outstanding.

Commune with Nature

By NYTN30 |

Fabulous Japanese gardens to explore independently or take a docent lead tour. I coordinated a docent led tour for 40 women. The expertise of the docent transformed the beautiful gardens into understanding of the juxtaposition of tree, shrubs, water & statuary. Having been to Japan, this the closest you can come to a similar experience. Be sure to eat at the cafe & have a Bento box. It is a delicious sampling of Japanese foods.

Morakami

By Barbara G |

The museum, movie, gardens, restaurant and gift shop offer many unique features and interesting information about culture and history of the gardens.

A perfect stroll

By Valerie V |

The gardens are lovely and the rain made everything bloom. Lunch was better than ever. All the shade and the breeze made our afternoon great. Must see is the bamboo illumination room

Wonderful way to spend an afternoon

By SBC75 |

Have been meaning to stop here many years, each time we pass the sign on the road. Finally did and it was well worth it!

The gardens are beautiful, peaceful and very well maintained. We enjoyed learning the different meanings behind the types of statues, lanterns, materials used, and layout of the features. During non-crowded days, this would be a relaxing place to find a spot and truly meditate.

The museum gallery houses amazingly intricate scrolls of Zen Buddhism, is very well laid out and informative. Not to be missed.

There is a life-size tea house displayed with definitions of each integral part of construction. Hoping to go back for the demonstration of a traditional Japanese tea ceremony.

The cafe is very good. Their bento box, plenty for two to share is both reasonably priced and delicious. Best tofu I've ever had.

Overall, a good way to spend an afternoon, and even better if you can go in the cool of the late afternoon.

Peaceful

By C_Tom2Men |

Morikami is beautiful! I arrived at 10:25 a.m., and was just in time for the 10:30 guided tour. The docent was knowledgeable, loud and clear. There were two other guides to make sure the group kept moving at a comfortable pace. One part of the museum is under construction for updates. It was not my first time there, and it was still worth going to even with the closed area. The greenery, flowers, and wild life was amazing. There were Ponds with Koi, turtles, Heron, Iguanas, and even a small Alligator. There is a very nice Bonsai exhibit. Very worth going to.

Morkami is very peaceful & inspiring

By Robin Z |

The gardens with the water, koi, turtles and lush gardens are beautiful. The lush gardens, water, koi, turtles are really peaceful. The main museum with the descriptions of the art is very inspiring and centers one as you contemplate the meaning. This place is best visited on a cooler day when the heat is not so strong.

Does Your Heart Good

By LucyandMartha S |

There’s a beautiful energy at the Morikami. Carefully clipped bonsai trees greet you even before you arrive at the entrance. Beyond will be lakes and greenery, some flowers, some sculptures, thoughtfully placed by mindful curators. There’s a lovely gift shop full of authentic Japanese artifacts, cloth and ceramics. And the restaurant is very nice. The food is good and the wait staff is pleasant.

Beautiful gardens, interesting history, delicious food & fabulous gift shop

By AndreaUbok |

Beautifully maintained Japanese Gardens with insight into the Japanese family that immigrated to Boca. Loved the foliage, restaurant and gift shop. Interesting programs scheduled as well.

So beautiful and relaxing

By travelgirl41651 |

My husband and I visited in January. What a beautiful place. So peaceful. Loved everything, the bamboo is cool and you can hear it clicking in the breeze. Have lunch there too. Yummy and beautiful views. What a beautiful place to be able to visit.

Enjoyable 2 hours but not as much color as we expected

By Jim S |

We toured this garden and ate at the restaurant in late February before a cruise out of Ft Lauderdale. We originally heard about it from a fellow cruise passenger and checked it out on TripAdvisor. It is a nice place to walk and relax, but even in February it was hot that day. (We have lived in Florida 46 years) There is shade in places. We had been to other Japanese gardens but were expecting more flowers and color, perhaps the season was not ideal for that.

The restaurant was slammed but we were able to enjoy a delicious meal after a 15 minute wait. The portions are large. Consider sharing a bowl.

The exhibit of Bon Sai at the end was interesting because there were a few species of tree you would not expect to see in this art form.

Everything a Japanese garden and museum should NOT be. STAY AWAY!

By SoFla1947 |

I am a lover of all things Japanese, having spent a good deal of time there as a youngster with my family. Although this facility is a good idea, the execution is poor. You enter through a beautiful and modern Japanese inspired building and pay the overpriced admission. Then the up-selling begins. The lobby was full of people trying to sell all sorts of Japan related products, and the "Museum Store" was there as well. There was also a Japanese drumming show in one of the small theater rooms, for an extra admission price of course. I already hated the place, as I had expected at least some of the relaxed serenity of a Japanese garden.

The garden itself was disappointing. Japanese gardens are generally lovely, shady, clean, manicured gardens for quiet reflection and the appreciation of calm and balance. This was a hot mess...both hot from lack of shade, and a mess. Leaf litter, broken dead bamboo precariously looming over the paths, and so on. The water features were an algae filled swampy nightmare as well.

When we arrived at the actual museum, midway on the very long and confused path around the garden, we were unable to enjoy any of the very few and small exhibits because, since it was a ninety-three degree day the museum was unbearable, since it is a dark building with a dark roof with NO AIR CONDITIONING (in south South Florida no less!). So we just left and continued the interminable walk back to the main building, which was at least air conditioned.

We wanted to eat something at the cafe, so we got on the very long and again, not air conditioned line. The food was pretty good, but don't go there just for the food, since you cannot eat at the cafe without paying admission to the Museum/Garden.

And lastly...I have spent a lot of time in Japan, and the people are just lovely. The main problem with this place, beyond all else, IS HOW NASTY THE STAFF MEMBERS ARE. I didn't complain or utter a negative word (I save that for my reviews) and still...several staff members (not all) with whom I interacted (not the cafe servers, who were really nice, unlike the cafe cashier, who was anything but) were just as nasty as they could be. I did nothing to deserve this treatment, nor did my wife or our friends who (I'm sorry to say) we invited to join us.

This place is a good idea in its conception, but terrible in its execution. I wouldn't go back under any circumstances. You might want to steer clear of it yourselves.

Jurassic park

By Nomad |

An oasis. An oasis that can be marred by extremely noisy and obnoxious kids. And the hot Miami weather in July can be oppressive - rendering you into a sweaty mess after a couple of hours. I would visit again during a weekday in order to avoid the crowds. And during the winter months to avoid the heat and hopefully the youngsters will be in school. I would visit at opening time when the crowds are minimal. The concentration of flora and fauna is staggering. I saw more birds, fish and reptiles residing in this place than in some zoos that I’ve visited. The grounds are stunning. Recommend sitting for a while and just watching the wildlife. The pools are choc full of different species of fish and turtles that are visible. Gators lurk unseen. The trees are alive with green tree iguanas. They seem undeterred by human presence. Several species of birds were seen. Several species of lizards. The plants and lush vegetation is outstanding. Several plants and trees have identification markers to assist.

Exquisite and tranquil garden

By mwhamburger |

admission for seniors (2 of us) came to 24.30; adult is $14.02. The museum was closed for renovation.
we had a map that explained the various points of interest which was very helpful. Trees and bushes are beautifully groomed. You can sit on a bench an enjoy the views over small and larger ponds/lakes. Visit the Bonsai garden and don't forget the gift shop; it has lovely items for sale that are unlike most gift shops you encounter. If you live in the area you will find that there are rotating exhibits, classes, etc.
We were totally fascinated with this gorgeous garden. If you stay for lunch at the Cornell Café that overlooks the garden you will spend well over 3 hrs. here.
Parking is free

Visitors allowed to ignore Covid precautions

By Islander642 |

Masks are required to enter but an extraordinary amount of people were not maintaing distance or wearing masks once they entered. It was very busy. This was not apparent until we were on the trails. I was with my elderly parents. Had visited botanical gardens in Vero Bch where the vast majority of people were considerate of others health by keeping away n wearing masks. Thought it would be the same here. Not so. If you are trying to do the right thing this is not a good place to visit at this time. The gardens themselves would have been pleasant otherwise. The museum was not open. I suggest calling to find what areas are not open as the entance fee is not discounted for exhibit closures. Most of the areas were handicap accessible.

Gorgeous Gardens

By Brianabulls |

My mother and sister had been here before and told me how beautiful it was. On a nice Sunday, we went and viewed the gardens and museum. I had an amazing time. The gardens are well kept, elaborate, and interesting. Walking through the garden feels like a day in Japan. The school was one of my favorite parts. They have a classroom set up with desks, uniforms, and Kanji sheets. I’ve been to Japan before and Morikami accurately represents Japanese life.

Wow, amazing gardens

By TucsonTraveller2 |

Went to Morikami Japanese Gardens since it was a AAA starred attraction. This Garden is amazing, it is 7/10 mile walk around the gardens. The paths are accessible for wheelchairs. The Gardens are surrounded by a huge lake that you walk around. There was an awesome Bonsai tree exhibit. There is a lot of Japanese history regarding the gardens.

A magnificent site

By Paul H |

These gardens are simply beautiful. The obvious careful planning that went into them is easy to appreciate. It is one of the most peaceful local sites. This is also an ideal place for pictures - of both the location but also for a wedding or other celebration. The gift shop has many interesting and different items which have been chosen carefully. All in all a perfect place for an afternoon or moring visit

Magnificent!!!

Beautiful, serene gardens with stone figures of Buddhas and other figures, birds and waterfalls and water features. This is a must see when in the area.🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Beautiful: Japanese paradise in South Florida

By Manfred M. |

Exactly 120 years ago: Jo Sakai, a New York University student, returned home to Miyazu, Japan and led a group of pioneer farmers to what is now northern Boca Raton. With incredible diligence and tireless work, they urbanized the land, grew citrus fruits and founded the Farmers Colony, which they called 'Yamato', the ancient name for Japan.

Unfortunately, the 'Yamato Colony' never reached its goal and had to give up its dream. People went back to Japan and other parts of the United States.

Today: A park of more than 80 hectares pays respect to these pioneers, lets the past blossom again and presents Japanese garden design from the 8th to the 20th century.

Fascinating beauty of nature - the circular route leads over bridges and islands around the large lake with koi and turtles to the 'Morikami' waterfall. In the 'Bamboo Grove' the sounds of the metre-high bamboo poles knocking together in the wind; Antique stone lanterns, romantic benches and typical Japanese vegetation line the path to the bridge on 'Yamato Island'.

Highlights of this small dream island: One of the world's best bonsai exhibitions as well as the impressive museum, which presents the courage and hard work of the pioneers in a clear and exciting way.

Pure Japanese feeling, relaxing and inspiring: definitely worth seeing!

Great!

What a great trip!
We visited the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens the second day they reopened to the public (last week). What a beautiful place!
We also ate here and it is very excellent!

Wonderful Japanese Gardens

By David M |

Looking for a way to spend a few hours so after checking out the reviews on Trip Advisor we decided on this attraction. Good decision. Cool sunny day, perfect for taking the close to mile walk thru the beautiful gardens. Started with a couple of videos about the gardens and museum and the history of the property. Wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit. You can tour the property yourself or join a guided group. Fee is very reasonable and time spent very worthwhile.

Serene garden setting

By Michael R |

A scenic botanical garden in the Japanese style, established to honor immigrants from Japan who settled in the area over a hundred years ago. It features a variety of easy walking paths in and around various settings including a lake, waterfalls, banzai displays, rock gardens, and shrines. It is all very serene. There is a museum but it was closed at the time to prepare for an exhibit. There is also a cafe that I will review separately.

Gorgeous Highlight

By terrdeter |

Loved it - so pretty and serene, could come here daily, even our teens agree!
Saw a crane, koi, lizards, turtles- keep a eye out when you meander, so much more than just foliage.
Don’t skip, the cafe- good food for cafeteria- tasty lunch rounds out perfect day at gardens.

Living Japanese Tradition

Museum and gardens epitomizing Japanese culture. the Gardens are lovely and the history interesting. A delightful way to spend several hours. In spite of crowded parking lot there was still plenty of room to explore the gardens.

Very Peaceful and Beautiful

By Lonny M |

A local at the nature center (Gumbo Limbo) told us to visit the Gardens. I am so glad she gave us this tip. The gardens were peaceful and beautiful. The staff was very helpful and friendly and the Cornell Cafe served tasty and tasteful Asian food at a reasonable price (($8-$13). We were in the Gardens for 2-3 hours and we finished off our tour with the Museum and gift shop. I recommend Morikami and give it 4 1/2 stars. I give it 1/2 star less because the Japanese Garden in San Francisco was more spectacular. Jumbo Limbo is only 20 years in the making and this is a short time for most Japanese Gardens. There is an audio tape available to explain the garden.

Beautiful gardens and history

By Lita C |

This place was beautiful, even in the cooler than normal temperatures of Florida! My husband and enjoyed walking the trail and seeing the artwork displayed in the museum. Definitely recommend wearing comfy shoes as there is a bit of walking you'll need to do and some of the ground may be uneven in places. My husband enjoyed reading the history of the Japanese immigrants in the area. I didn't bring my regular glasses with me so my eyes were too tired to read by the time we got to that part of the tour. I was designated photographer for the tour so I have lots of beautiful pictures of the gardens and art displays but I won't post them all here!

Wonderful Way to Spend a Day!

By joanng2018 |

Just spent a day visiting the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens. What a lovely day. Such beautiful surroundings. Wonderful way to spend an afternoon. Make sure to relax and take time to sit and view the surroundings.

Disappointing

By ydegaston |

Beautiful and relaxing, however it was very disappointing that you pay full price to access the gardens and the museum is closed due to renovations.

Beautiful!

By LeeAnn5 |

Visited with 2 friends. All are senior citizens. Beautiful and peaceful gardens. Walkways smooth and walkable. Interesting and informative signing. Would have liked more labels for trees and shrubary. Would definitely visit if I were in the area again. Saw several families with small children and they seemed to be enjoying themselves. I think my 3 year old grandson would find it very interesting. Many birds, lizards and bugs to search for! Has a nice gift shop.

Just okey

By Anastasiya P |

We expected more in these gardens. Price is 15$ pp.
the gardens are well maintained. Most of all we liked the Japanese stones.

Are you looking for a great vegetarian food...

By Annabelle M |

My sister-in-law and I had a good time bonding yesterday dining in at a Japanese cafe & restaurant. I ordered their vegetarian meal in a bento and a sea weeds for appetizer... I had a happy plate..I consumed everything in that bento...we had a friendly waitress who was always wearing her great smile every time she come to check on us if we need anything.
After the our great vegan meal, we went to see their souvenir shop and i bought a coconut ginger candy which is so good for neutralizing our taste bud while we walked around to at least a mile walk around at the whole Japanese gardens. I absolutlely recommend this place if you are looking for a healthy food and a peaceful place to meditate.

Wonderful Japanese experience

By persalt |

Just a beautiful place to visit, enjoy the culture of Japan. Great learning experience of Japanese culture. A truly a great visit. Grand-daughter and her friend were very impressed with the grounds and the various presentations given by volunteers and guides. Highly recommend this place.

Love the fish

By dorian & andrew |

We spent 3 hours at this beautiful garden, feeding the fish and turtles, walking on the trails, and taking pictures. Admission price was relatively inexpensive and their was a nice cafe and gift shop. I would definitely recommend coming for a zen experience. I would also recommend coming as soon as it opens. The line was extensive when we left at around 1pm on a Saturday.

An Iguana Park That Happens To Have Japanese Art and Landscaping

By Thegoodegg |

I lived in the area for 11 years and somehow never made it to visit. This past week I was down for a short visit and finally went. The gardens are beautiful and the museum is definitely worth a look around.

My only comment is I wish there had been signs letting me know about the iguanas. There were so, so many of them and some are very large and running/walking everywhere. I was caught by surprise and the experience made me nervous and it just would have been nice if there was some mention as I was visiting alone and didn't, at first realize, just how many there were there. Probably dozens and dozens. If anyone has a reptile or animal phobia this is something to consider when planning a visit. I do realize they are harmless but for unfamiliar people it is a little overwhelming.

Gorgeous stop!

By Rachelle |

Beautiful Mothers Day visit! Gardens are well worth it!! Pleasant walk with gorgeous views! Art exhibition small but powerful!! Cafe has something for all. Portions good & prices fair. COVID protocol still being enforced Thru out which is good for all involved. Was able to see all in a bit more than 2hrs with lines moving fast.

Great garden not so great arrival.

By Connie F |

My husband and I drove up from Ft Lauderdale to enjoy this garden. The garden experience was great. Upon our arrival we found out that they offered a military discount. My husband and I both presented an ID card. One was honored for the discount and the other was not. The lady at the pay window told me that thy do NOT honor a discount for the sponsor. I knew at that point she was confused. The sponsor is the active duty service member....So, what you are telling me is you don’t honor your discount for the actual service member? I then asked her what ID are you looking for? She said we give the discount to veterans. I produced a VA card to show that I was a veteran and we both deserved the discount. At that point I was told that the credit card had already processed and there was no way to process a refund. It was an awful way to start my garden tour and I felt as if my service was not honored, by her reply. It is only a couple of dollars but, the principle and the lack of respect for your own discount was annoying. Either train your staff or post a photo of ID that qualifies. Better yet take a clue from Vizcaya Museum and gardens and just let your military in for free.

EXPENSIVE AND OVERRATED

By Pamela P |

This park is nothing special. It has few unusual plantings and the gardens are humdrum. You would be far better off visiting Wakodahachee or Green Cay.

Spectacular!

By Andrew T |

Any visit to this area Must include a visit to these beautiful gardens . Chinese / Japanese developed by the Morikami family more than 70 years ago, they are spectacular. For $13 Senior each you get the Museum , gift shop and a map to guide you on this lovely circular path.
A treat for all ages , well marked with descriptions for every section.
Then try a superb light lunch at the Cornell Restaurant right at the main entrance. One of the best museum restaurants in the country.
Easy parking. Just off Jog Rd in Del Ray.

Great spot to meditate

By spencer b |

This is the best place I can think of to enjoy a quiet day. This may be one of the best Japanese Gardens in the World, if you are in town you have to stop by.

Memorable visit to a Museum

By Pyramidion |

A unique and historic Japanese Museum, Beautiful Lake and extensive gardens and trails all with Japanese themes and designs. The museum collection is large and of the highest quality. They are now kimiting numbers because of Covid 19. Masks required.

Beautiful nature

By Ian M |

Such a peaceful and beautiful place to visit. Even when me and my family went while there wasn't an event going on we still had so much fun exploring the gardens and taking pictures of the beautiful nature they host.

Tranquil

By Mark R |

Allow minimum 3 hours to tour the grounds. Interesting history and stunning views. Some wild life and many different plants, trees and flowers.

Trees

By 143lissette |

This place is a lot of greenery. It is a nice stroll to look at trees. Some education in Japanese culture and families that migrated to this area. The staff that I dealt with which was the clerk in the front to charge you was not friendly actually kind of rude. I feel like there are other places to see for better prices in the area.

Love the gardens

By Tammy H |

It's a very lovely place. Great place if you want to have meditation. They have a restaurant you can eat at. It also be a wonderful place to have a wedding or an event.

Tour and lunch

By suzie g |

Place is beautiful and the tour guide was very knowledgeable. He made the vist very meaningful. Lunch at the cafe was great. A must visit when in the area.

Not handicap accessible

By Monica W |

The covid changes are in direct violation of the ADA rules. You park in the handicap area, then limp over a quarter mile course including a ramp instead of using the stairs directly in front of the handicap parking. Exiting is no better. Who thought this was a good idea? Unless you are wheelchair bound with a muscular caregiver, avoid this place.

Tranquility away from cacophony of fast paced Miami

By Maxx882 |

Sometimes one must travel to find a respite from the cacophony of Life. A few miles off the super highways of I-95 and the Florida Turnpike, there is a small sign to turn towards the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens. The road is not straight causeway direct, however, curves around trees until one reaches the destination.

There is a calm as one approaches the entrance.

I was most fortunate to arrive on a day without a bevy of tourbuses and hoards of folks too busy talking together or on their phones.

Inhale a deep breathe then release while wandering throughout this gem. The garden meanders around a lake with walking paths intertwined through groves of bamboo, pines, bonsai trees, and stone sculptures by wooden foot bridges and marked paths. Koi and turtles gather under the bridges alerted by the vibrations of passersby. There are hidden places with benches to sit and contemplate the beauty and sounds of nature. IF one is quiet, the rush of water falls flowing into streams, water filling and emptying the Shishi Odoshi bamboo sculpture, the rustle of the trees in the gentle breeze, and even the sound of one’s feet along the stone paths enhance sensations as intended by George Morikami and his landscape architect, Hoichi Kurisu. The visual harmony of elements is inspiring.

Video stories within the Museum give further insight into this experience. And, of course, there is a place to partake in some Japanese cuisine.

Yes, I will return.

Arigatōgozaimashita!

A must see in Delray after the virus

By Daniel V |

The Morikami Museum & Japanese Gardens is truly a fantastic place to visit. Their plants are breathtaking, the ponds are magnificent, and they are able to provide a serene place while still giving information about Japanese history. The gift shop is small yet wonderful while their restaurants seem to have 3 new items daily. However, while this is a great place, the fact that they don't apply the mask wearing policy is a letdown from all the enjoyment. All the staff has done is make sure people where a mask before they enter, but once they enter they take their masks off. It's concerning for not only obvious reasons, but because their are days where several children aren't wearing a mask; while simultaneously, the garden is filled with people who also aren't wearing a mask. While the place is beautiful, it's best to only attend after the pandemic is over or once Morikami starts to better implement the mask wearing policy for the safety for everyone there.

No mask enforcement

By Dave |

Have been here many times and love these beautiful gardens. But once away from the main building and in to the gardens, half the guests take off their masks and are not really socially distancing. They freely walk right close to other guests. Incredibly disappointed.

You have to go to this little peace of heaven

By Leanne G |

I would never have known this place existed if not for trip advisor. It is beautiful and relaxing. Makes you feel totally at peace strolling down all the paths. You see fish, turtles, large iguanas, birds, alligators, bonsai trees, Japanese statues and buildings. They have a tea house and gift shop. Bought some items. Go and enjoy this peace of heaven! Lots of walking and benches thru out the paths for a rest

Magnificent Setting

By Rschagrin |

Magnificent Setting An oasis in the middle of civilization. A great place to see Japanese nature at its best. A very calm and sincere area. They also have a museum telling the history of the Japanese famers in the area

Relaxing and pictures galore

By Natalie S |

Went here for bridal pictures and it was so beautiful! You don’t feel like you’re in Florida but let alone a big city.

Relaxing and peaceful

By Anyer Blanco |

If you want to do something different, for sure this is the spot. Very relaxing and peaceful. I went with my girlfriend and enjoy it a lot. Just $15 per person. The best part for me it was the bonsais.

Peace and Tranquilty

By lynns629 |

While visiting a friend, she suggested this place, for shooting photography. Well kept gardens and lakes with beautiful waterfalls and wildlife. We went into their lovely sales shop and also the theater to watch the history of the land. A wonderful place to visit if you need to de-stress.

Good Friday

By jerusias |

You need to go to the Morikami Maseum. You will spend a nice and quite time walking through this 16 acres Japanese garden.

This location is NOT accommodating to the disabled, especially those needing wheelchairs.

By Ptbi |

We did not know ahead of time that Morikami is NOT wheelchair accessible. We took our 95 year old father who is healthy and vigorous, but not able to walk long distances. My sister and he wound up in the lobby and unable to follow the younger part of the family because of this.
The lobby is all window, and looks out into the gardens. A MALE GUARD KEPT SHOUTING AT MY SISTER AND DAD, DO NOT LOOK OUT THE WINDOW! THEY WERE NATURALLY UPSET BY THIS!

Find Peace

Bring your meditation cushion and singing bowl. Take your time. Breathe deeply.

Oh, and the bonsai garden is really a MUST SEE. Hard to believe that these plants are decades old.

Like a trip to Japan

By Trey S |

Visiting The morikami museum in delray was like traveling to Kyoto japan. The garden grounds are expertly manicured - a detail noticed when examining up close. From afar, the sheer scale is awesome. The garden paths wrap around a big lake and as you walk those paths, vistas reveal themselves all throughout the trip. All good things. Try to tea ceremony too

Perfect Birthday Visit

By Gina Lynn G |

I visited the Morikami on my birthday, Saturday, October 25th, and experienced the Origami Bat workshop in the Kamiya Room. I brought my husband and my brother with me. We enjoyed it very much, even though our bats came out a little "wonky". I did thank Jillian, the volunteer, for being patient with us older folks as we tried something new. I now have a few bats to hang up for Halloween. Other than the bats, we enjoyed our walk around the gardens. I even saw turtles, fish, iguanas and a humming bird. It was a great outing! I hope to visit again in the new year!

Mother’s Day.

By cfitmv |

What an awesome place! If you’ve never been here- it’s a must do. Go to the website and see the extra curricular activity they have going on. There’s always something unique and fun. They have a museum, while small, still impactful and interesting.

Beautiful designed gardens. A must see.

By Peggy v |

Plan on spending a few hours if you want to take it all in, maybe even enjoy lunch there.
Very interesting and informative museum, although small. Gardens are absolutely beautiful. Wonderful designed trailing small waterfall. The singing bamboo area Is one of my favorites along with the serene meditation area.

Beautiful location

By elysediane |

The grounds are absolutely breathtaking and such a pleasure to stroll and have a lovely lunch. There are lovely exhibits and a fun gift shop to boot. You will enjoy a visit - it is a special place.

Beautiful and Relaxing Place to Visit...

When I feel that I need a soothing break I head to the Morikami. It is such a gorgeous place with beautiful tended grounds throughout. The restaurant is also excellent with it’s tasty Asian menu overlooking the gardens and ponds.

Unexpected Pleasure - Authentic Japanese Gardens in Boca Raton, Florida

By rwhitesf |

I was looking for a day away from the beach and came across the Morikami Gardens located in Boca Raton, FL. Beautiful series of Japanese-style gardens from various historical eras. Lovingly maintained and well worth the price of admission. There is also a museum but we did not have time to visit -- I nevertheless regard my money as extremely well spent -- this is a beautiful place to stroll through on a hot Florida day. Almost a full square mile of gardens to look at. Japanese gardening is an art form and this was very much an expression of that art. There's also a bit of history here. A group of Japanese immigrants moved to this part of Florida to try their hand at agriculture, principally pineapple growing. The venture ultimately failed and Mr. Morikami donated his farm to a foundation that now runs the garden and museum. That and "amato Road in Boca Raton are all that is left of this limited Japanese presence in this part of Florida.

a beautiful big garden with different styles of Japanese gardens

By Madeleine S |

a beautiful big garden with sections for different eras in Japanese gardening styles, different flowers and trees you can spend there 1-2 or more hours there

Serenity, but don't go on a weekend

By vasile123 |

We went there on a Sunday when the weather was not good for the beach. Probably a lot of people had the same idea so the line for the tickets was long. However, once we got to the garden we were able to keep enough distance from others, so the visit was really relaxing. There are many places where you can meditate, relax and admire. Do read the online guide; there are short explanations that make each stop in the gardens more meaningful, you can learn a lot. This was a wonderful afternoon, too bad the gardens are not a bit bigger, the tour was over too soon. We visited the museum but did not have the opportunity to catch a tea ceremony.

A walk through nature

By misslou_97 |

My sister and I visited the morikami gardens on April 23, 2022. It is a beautiful place for a walk while in a beautiful setting. The park is created so that you can see the different types of Japanese garden styles over the centuries.
You can watch a short 10 minutes movie that helps you understand the work that is done to keep these gardens beautiful.
You can also use your mobile phone to scan a qr code to have an audio visit.
We spent just over an hour in the park.

Worth several trips

By janet425 |

When visiting in Florida we love to go to this beautiful spot. First visit was to see the Bonsai collection my husband read about and was amazed at the size and beauty of the gardens. Easy walking path around a lake with benches for resting. I was fascinated by the rock garden using rocks instead of plants placed on carefully raked gravel. Many small water features stocked with Koi, turtles and gators. Japanese house is currently closed for repair but you can walk around outside. Cafe Cornell in the main building is a great lunch venue. Only open until 3 so plan accordingly. Save time for the gift shop and museum area on your way out.

Great spot

By marieL3675ZW |

Excellent spot for relaxation and peaceful contemplation! Have been a member for a few years and always drawn to it!

Lovely place for a stroll

By Herb M |

We visited Morikami at opening time on a weekday - we noticed it was much more crowded when we left about 1 hour later. Morikami is a beautiful Japanese Garden, not special for the choice of plants or the scale of plants, but for the disciplined presentation of nature, which is highly organized in Japanese gardens. The paths are groomed gravel, the borders of the lake and the gardens are evenly covered with leaves or pine needles or rocks - it is not natural, but manicured. The overall effect is soothing. The various gardens within Morikami are clearly marked as to the origin of that particular garden design. After touring the garden (about 1 hour) we briefly stoped at the Museum for the Japanese Anime exhibit, but that was not to our taste. There is a restaurant on site for those wanting lunch as part of the overall experience - the menu looked very limited for people on restricted diets.

Serene beauty

By Meshattan |

We found the Morikami Japanese Gardens to be absolutely beautiful and serene. There even was a crane flying over the lake like in a Japanese woodcut. You follow a path through different areas of the gardens - each one with different plants and Japanese structures. We ate outdoors in the Cornell Cafe - the view was breathtaking and the food and service excellent. The museum had an exhibit on anime which was world-class.

Beautiful garden especially the Bonsais

By Brooklyn478 |

This garden popped up on all the ‘best things to do in the area’ lists and it did not disappoint! Beautiful garden and fun to watch the various wildlife also enjoying the garden from iguanas and birds to turtles and fish. Someone saw an alligator but I didn’t see it. Numerous photo opportunities and a lovely cafe with good food and nice gift shop. I really enjoyed my day!

Gardens are beautiful, but skip the restaurant

By mujica2018 |

The Japanese gardens are extraordinary. The beautifully maintained grounds and walking paths make this a treat for the whole family. It can get crowded, so plan ahead. The restaurant has little to offer, and the service is terrible.

A GEM

Magical garden with an outstanding cafe. Some cool wildlife also. Beauty and serenity in the midst of South Florida congestion. Highly recommend a visit.

Idyllic stopping point with a fabulous lunch

By TrailBlazer189280 |

We used the gardens as a stop off to break up the journey between Orlando and Miami airport. We had a fabulous afternoon and enjoyed exploring the gardens. My 12 and 9 year old were fascinated by the lizards and turtles. We also enjoyed a delicious lunch. We’d love to use the cafe as a stopping point again but won’t for now as unfortunately you have to pay to get into the gardens before being able to use the cafe.

A must see

this a magnificent :must see" place for both adults and families with children. The tranquility and beauty is just a must see..

Yamato-kan model home is closed for renovation

By Princess Consuela Banana Hammock |

Museum & cafe practice social distance. Yamato-kan model home is under renovation. Patrons can enjoy outdoor dining for lunch. We recommend the classic bento. Patrons can purchase & feed fish food to koi fish & turtles. Gift shop sporadically sells variety of Kit Kat flavors such as matcha green tea & strawberry. I wish that gift shop sells more varieties of Kit Kat flavors such as wasabi, custard, orange, yams, sake& cranberry just to name a few. Everyone poops & Gas we pass are the BEST gifts for every age group & occasion. We’re happy & thankful that Morikami reopened.

Hi Hum

By CuriousCasey |

I was excited to visit Morikami because I had heard how wonderful it was, but instead I was disappointed. Both the museum on Yamato island and at the main building were closed, with no warning of such on the website. I was especially looking forward to seeing the bonsai garden, and while there were many, there was minimal or no info on the origins or age of each tree. Let’s just say I’ve checked the box and I likely won’t return. Btw the pea gravel walkway is annoying if wearing sandals,

Beautiful Park, very good Japanese restaurant, Excellent gift shop.

By Muzikboy |

What a wonderful way to spend the day out. Our Japanese lunch was not great but it was very good and sitting out on their deck was fantastic. Walking in the gardens was excellent!!

Spiritually Replenishing & Grounding

By KelsClark2201 |

If you’re anything like me, the idea of “zen” is predominantly just that - an idea.

My humanity [mostly, the obligation to being a tax paying, law abiding, halfway decent member of society] gets in the way of the stress-free, enlightened lifestyle more often than I approve of.

Enter COVID-19.. a full year of unemployed quarantine with my fiancé, our one bedroom apartment & strongly pursuing growing my spirituality: Welcome to April 2021.

I couldn’t help but feel my energy “recharge” when I entered the garden and took a breath. It was almost as if the large beautiful pond in front of me absolved me of my worries with just the gust of the small breeze.

The entire walk through the only feeling I can describe is wholesome. It encompasses your being and allows you to truly enjoy and connect with the nature, decor, and environment surrounding you. I only wish I could have spent more time there.

I will most definitely become a member and visit as often as I can.

Also, my fiancé who is the complete opposite personality.. didn’t hate it or complain once.

Must visit.

This is a beautiful spot! A hidden gem. Recommended for all.

By Curious54022351363 |

If you have time to walk the Morikami Gardens, you will be glad you did. Just wonderful and relaxing. Everyone should spend time there. Better yet, become a member!

Hidden treasure

By BertNo |

One of the most beautiful and tranquil places I’ve ever been in my lifetime. A little off the beaten path but absolutely worth it. If you are visiting the area, do NOT miss this place. And if you live in this area you absolutely must take the time to visit here. You will leave inspired, relaxed and wondering as I did why you drove past this gem day after day.

Peaceful Morning stroll

By Cynthia R |

This beautiful 200 acre Japanese garden is a must do while in Delray Beach! Extremely well laid out pathways are mostly under shade from the Florida sun. The bonsai garden display around the original museum is a must see. Enjoy the next time you're in this area!

Visit with friends

By Janet P |

It was a beautiful, tranquil walk thru the gardens. The Bonsai area was very interesting. The waterfall was beautiful. My girlfriend and I kept saying we could just put up a hammock and nap in the gardens. They were very restful.
The museum was not open and I would go back to see that.
The cost was reasonable at $16/each

Lovely garden to walk around. Very small, great to come with small children, to spend a few hours. Very pretty grounds, yearly Lantern festival the high lite of this park.

Lovely Morning Visit

By rogersober |

We strolled the gardens casually on a Saturday morning in April with a partly cloudy sky and light wind. The blooms were sparse but the grounds were beautiful. We stopped lunch at Cornell after our stroll.

Beautiful, but go early!

By ck2694 |

We went early on a Saturday AM and were able to enter right away. You walk around a lake (1 mile) with many side trails and the entire place was just beautiful with a ton of photo ops. At the end we stopped in their cafe for a snack and the food was very good. When we left there was a big line to get in.

A perfect and relaxing day outing.

By Heather G |

This was a perfect day outing! It is so beautiful. It is low key and relaxing. Something to see around every corner. I have a hard time standing or walking for long periods. There are places to sit and take in the breeze all along the way. It was a very hot day. Most of the trail is shaded nicely. My teens and I met friends there for the day. Everyone enjoyed all that was offered. The food was excellent! Ice cold beer and yummy Boba tea among other options. Also vegetarian options too. I will definitely go back!

One of the coolest places I've been to.

By Jianna M |

Morikami Museum is probably one of the best museums I've been to in a long time. They have all types of things to do there like watching Japanese movies (spirited away, Totoro, etc.), spelling your name in Japanese, walking around the garden, feeding turtles and khoi fish, and so much more. Their food is amazing and my family and I really enjoyed our time there and learned so much about the Japanese culture. I 100% recommend coming here!

Gorgeous gardens and great to walk with family/friends. Suggest you get the family life time pass if they still offer.

This is much more than a nice place to relax...

By Bart L |

...but it is NOT a park. The Morikami is a series of gardens designed to stimulate your senses and bring you out of your mundane existence for a little while. Not all gardens have flowers (or pagodas), but not all gardens can leave you feeling tranquil and unencumbered. Take off your heavy overcoat of expectations and just enjoy the views!

Inside out

By johnfjohnston |

The gardens, even in a steady rain, is exquisitely satisfying. The museum, however, displaying bizarre jewelry, and no other examples of the wealth of Japanese culture was far less enjoyable.
On a sunny day, the gardens were a delightful walk.
Cafe was a mediocre experience.

Beautiful Place to visit

First time going to Morikami for a weekend festival and what a gem of a place! it truly felt you were not in Florida at all. The gardens are beautiful and so was the lagoons, I highly recommend this place to visit.

You Need to Go … or Go Again.

By Gene E |

It’s been a couple years since we’ve been to the Delray area; but returned this year and had to see the Morikami. Each time we take a bit longer to walk around the lake and each time we see things a bit differently. The seasons change the blooms and the staff seems to make subtle adjustments too. The wildlife pay little attention to our intrusion. It’s a calm experience as it was intended to be.

Be sure to stay for lunch or plan on lunch before your walk. Service is friendly and the food is good. Recent additions to their menu include a few Bento Boxes that seem to be popular. I enjoy the crispy pork but miss the Grouper dishes from a few years back.

For some, the gift shop is worth the stop. Check for a current exhibit on display. You’ll find something to bring you back.

Beautiful!

By abc31 |

If you are in the Delray Beach area it is definitely worth a tip to see the Japanese gardens. It was beautiful and serene. It looked like something from a story book. There was a very nice looking Asian restaurant over looking the pond. We did not try it, but it looked like a really nice setting.

Came here while attending a presentation in Delray Beach. it was a $15 admission for adult non-members. You stroll around a large pond with a lot of Japanese garden designs throughout. I'd say it took me about 1-hour to walk slowly and take pictures of the various plants and exhibits.

I've also attended the Japanese gardens in San Diego and Seattle. This is on par with those, although not quite as dramatic as the other two because there are fewer waterfall features and not as many plants.

A Peaceful Garden walk......

By Ginny N M |

My sister and I have had this garden on our list for years.... our visits to the area bring us mostly to the beach if it is sunny and warm.... so on a drizzly day we set out for Morikami. So glad we did..... absolutely wonderful garden.... lovely views.....

Peaceful and beautiful

Walking path about a mile. Classic Japanese garden on a grand scale. Very well done and meticulously cared for. Cafe on site nice. Recommend the dragon roll!
Many poi. Classic stone lateens from many shogunates. Peaceful and relaxing.

A bucket list visit

By Diana_T_501 |

I’m a big fan of Japanese gardens and Morikami has been on my list for a long time. It was good in a very different way. The Florida climate doesn’t support the trees and plants commonly found in Japanese gardens so it took me a while to get my head focused and stop comparing to other gardens like Portland and Anderson which are located in climates similar to Japan. The garden is well tended and beautiful

Beautiful!

By Annettemk |

It’s a beautiful, peaceful place. We downloaded the audio tour on my phone. There was a two hour movie that we missed. The gift shop is lovely and the art exhibit, although small, was well worth seeing. I would have liked to wander around the path a second time without listening to the audio but my husband didn’t care to because it was so hot.

Zen Garden for Tranquil Walks

By Prakash R |

The Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens provide a quiet place to walk, pause and meditate on the tranquil foliage and manicured Japanese shrubs that look like they came from a Japanese painting.

Located in the western part of Delray Beach, the Morkami is anchored by a large lake in the middle. A 0.8-mile walk winds its way around the lake with each section of the walk containing a portion of the Japanese Garden that reflects the practice of different Japanese eras. The plants are trimmed to picture-perfect proportions and the garden provides tranquility of mind that comes from being surrounded by minimalist order around us.

There is a large exhibition of bonsai trees some dating all the way back to the 1950s. The path around the lake winds through smaller bodies of reflecting pools, Japanese-style bridges, and Zen gardens with gravel representations of ocean and boulders. Small Shinto temple artifacts are strewn on an island and among the plants on the path. There is a bamboo water feature that constantly fills and empties from a bamboo pipe to make a natural noise - used in Japan to keep the deer away from the plants.

The Museum contains many paintings of the art of Japanese calligraphy. The Buddhist sutras are drawn using Japanese characters to form pagodas, and lines and strokes of complicated shapes to render images.

There is plentiful free parking though the Museum charges a small admission fee with a discount for seniors. Membership in the Museum buys free passes for guests in addition to free membership for yourself.

The Museum also boasts a Japanese cafeteria called the Cornell café that offers excellent Japanese food. We took the Bento box and were able to sample a variety of dishes. The Museum is rarely overcrowded but weekdays are better than weekends. I highly recommend a visit. If you live in the area, buying a membership is a great way to support an institution and get your constitutional walk in great surroundings!

Peaceful

We had a lovely day walking through the garden and especially liked the school house experience. It was a great learning experience. The patchs are not friendly to those with walking issues as the trails are stones. If you go on a hot day remember to have sun screen as there are few shady areas.

Great cultural museum with amazing art and beautiful gardes

I liked learning about the Japanese culture and seeing all the amazing art and garden work. Amazing place to take kids and interesting for adults too.

Tops the rating chart

Why can I only give 5 stars. Beautiful and relaxing gardens. Pictures do not do it justice. Come and see.

Hidden gem!

By sweetjustine |

My husband and I spent 4 hours gently exploring the beautiful gardens. As you meander through the gentle pathways the vistas are wonderful and there is a calming balance to the gardens and the wildlife. We saw turtles, koi fish, gecko lizards, iguanas and a black racer snake. The cafe (open 10-3pm) has the most amazing sushi at very reasonable prices and is a wonderful relaxing place to sit and eat whilst overlooking the gardens. They also made me up a ‘take out’ bag of sushi! The gardens were surprisingly quiet, car parking free and the soaring kites exhibition was a lovely surprise and a welcome break from the heat outside. Most areas seemed to be wheelchair accessible. Clean restrooms. There is a small shop selling Japanese themed goods and was lovely to browse. A thoroughly lovely place to visit. Patrick the guide at the little museum was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable.

Beautiful Gardens

By Tigerfan0_0_12 |

Visited here recently with my family (including teenagers). Price to enter is $15/adult and $9 for children under 18. Entire walk is just about 1 mile and took us just under 1 hr to see everything. Place was very good with COVID protocol. They will ask you if you want to buy fish food for walk and I don’t recommend. We did but fish appeared to be over fed because when we threw in water none really ate it.

Large Japanese garden to walk at a cooler season

By Sylvanian |

The essence of this place is a nice Japanese garden with a pathway going around a lake. Very enjoyable and worth a visit - although even a shady garden is not the best place to spend time in Florida heat. Consider visiting in Fall-Winter-Spring. There is also a space for exhibitions, which justifies the name Museum, but it is not why you might want to drive here,

Celebrating the New Year!!!

This is one of the most tranquil and serene gardens you can visit in So Flo. I would visit a LOT more if I could remember that it's located more towards Boca than Delray as Google says

An peaceful oasis in the middle of a city

By Hetty P |

If you have an extra hour or more and just want to relax and unwind, head for Morikami Garden. Take a leisurely walk around the lake and appreciate nature at its finest. The bonsai garden is fantastic! The whole atmosphere is so relaxing, and if you are hungry there is a cafe. The gift shop also has many unique items very reasonably priced.

Beautifully manicured gardens - the perfect tranquil place to take a stroll

By Mel |

The gardens and grounds are very well maintained, a pleasure to take a calm stroll on the natural walkways. The museum is intriguing - a must for all with elementary children.
After exploring the gardens and museum, enjoy a cup of tea and a light snack in the Tearoom/restaurant.

A relaxing way to spend an afternoon outdoors.

A beautiful outdoor venue with interesting history and natural wonders around every corner. A place to walk and sit and walk and sit, to really enjoy the atmosphere.

A national treasure!

By Marc H |

The Morikami Gardens and Art Gallery is not to be missed if you are visiting the area. It is unique, the gardens having been crafted by skilled Japanese artisans with materials actually imported from a Japan. It is a quiet oasis of flowing walks trees shrubs all impeccably maintained and cut to Japanese Haden specifications. The water features contain turtles coy fish and alligators. Picture takers can be seen all over and once you arrive you’ll appreciate why. The gallery contains unique art collections on display and should be viewed as you would at any art gallery or museum. Take your time! A gift shop has nice items and a unique cafe restaurant offers Japanese food at lunchtime. Bring out of town guests for a treat.

Fun day

Beautiful gardens and ponds. You can feed the fish. Wear comfortable shoes and a hat - it’s huge! Nice gift shop too.

Japanese nature walk and art in the heart of Florida

By MontrealMan |

The Morikami Japanese Gardens offer a unique oasis that celebrates Japanese culture of gardens, nature and fine arts. The property features a beautiful walk around a pond with numerous examples of Japanese gardens and landscaping throughout different eras. The two small museums serve as interpretation centers that explain the history of Japanese farmers in North Boca Raton plus the establishment of Morikami in Delray. This destination is worth a detour.

I would have given a five-star ranking BUT I was shocked to see that the museum’s restaurant uses heavy plastic containers for its food that are NOT RECYCLED! This should change as such a lack of respect for nature is in direct conflict with the mission of this beautiful tourist attraction.

Beautiful gardens

Stopped off here on route to Palm Beach Gardens. Unfortunately it was raining at the time but still got to experience the beautifully designed gardens. Easy to walk around with well defined pathways. Worth a visit

Keep your inattentive 10 year olds home

By roger b |

This not a playground for your disinterested 10–12-year-old who is running 20 yards ahead of you screaming when can they go to McDonalds.

This is as described a tranquil natural setting, with several areas to sit and lay aside the troubles of the outside world.

Otherwise this is an amazing property filled with Japanese historical information. There is an audio tour that describes each garden that you stroll upon.

A can't miss.

Best place to relax

A wonderful spot to walk or sit-- bring a book. Also have a great gift shop. Hidden gazebos to rest as you explore. Can get great ideas for your own garden- all this and waterfalls too!

Garden + restaurant = top

By pierre c |

We really enjoyed visiting this beautiful garden. With a little luck we can see alligators, turtles, birds and iguanas. Also noteworthy is a beautiful collection of bonsai trees. We ended our visit with lunch at the Japanese restaurant in the garden, what a good idea! We really enjoyed ourselves, sitting on the terrace in front of this beautiful garden, for a very reasonable price.

Lovely Gardens and Taiko Drum Performance

By Victoria201154 |

Lovely gardens! The restaurant is outdoors and there was a line of people waiting but it was worth the wait. I had a Vegetarian Bento Box lunch. It was excellent. We attended the Obon Taiko Drum performance. It was great!

Beautiful Japanese gardens in Delray Beach

By 943rons |

We visited this beautiful garden, really a small park, with lakes, trees, birds, fish, turtles, and even a small alligator. Great gift shop and a really nice cafe. Some walking required, but absolutely lovely.

Expansive Japanese gardens! beautiful and relaxing place.

By Trypp Adams |

I'm a huge fan of Japanese gardens and this is a grand example. The former Yamato farming colony of Japanese who mostly returned to Japan after struggling to make things work. I tried watching the educational film but lost interest in hearing about how the woman in charge is so dedicated to the gardens, it's a bit of a feature film on her. I would plan to spend at least an hour here but you could easily spend a day here enjoying the gardens, relaxing, resting, writing and thinking. There are many gardens, gates, bridges, bonsai trees and scenic views along with Koi and turtles. The trail and tour takes you around the lake, unfortunately, one of the more scenic places, Yamato-kan, the original Morikami museum is closed for renovations. The $15 entrance fee seemed very reasonable given the scale of the gardens. Wish these were closer, I would love t be a regular visitor.

Beautiful day to visit the gardens!

My family and I took our first trip to the gardens and it was great! The staff was very friendly and the tea ceremony was very interesting.

Tranquil Garden in the Middle of the City

By Ray M |

Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens is a wonderful place to visit. It would be a lovely place for meditation or to bring guests. I would recommend visiting in the morning as it is very hot in full afternoon sun. The gift shop has very nice and reasonably priced items. The cafe was the biggest surprise. Delicious food at reasonable prices served with a friendly smile. I could only imagine what a wedding would look like here! It would spectacular!

Wedding ceremony and reception

By FarAway819958 |

Had a very nice experience on 11/9/19. The grounds and facility are outstanding, in addition to all of the service people being "on top of their game!" Food was excellent, I enjoyed a melt-in-your-mouth filet mignon. Entertainment included a band with a member from the Temptations...the dance floor was rocking! Also a perfect environment for great photos. Thank you.

A lovely park with a very long walk

By CenVillager316 |

This park is basically a long long walk around a lake.. At least one mile. Lots of benches to sit and enjoy the trees and views of the lake. But once you’ve seen one or two views all the rest are redundant.

The museum on an island is definitely worth a stop. You will see Japanese artifacts and scenes of domestic life.

The outdoor origami exhibit is disappointing. The miniature trees looked sad and in poor condition.

We visited the small exhibit hall in the entrance building. Some nice pieces of artwork there. Also some very weird pieces of artwork.

When you are buying an entrance ticket they ask you if you want to purchase a season pass. I told the woman I’d like to visit the park first before I decide if I want a season pass. She replied that if I waited until I actually visited the park I could not apply the ticket price to the purchase of a season pass. That is curious. Buy before seeing what you’re buying? No way.

We had lunch at the on site Cornell Cafe. There were no lines at 1 PM when we dined. By 2 PM there were long lines waiting to enter.

Do try the Bento box. It consists of several Japanese specialties. None of which I knew. All of which were delicious. The server was pleasant. When I asked she named the different items in the box. Not that I remember any of the names.

Tip: don’t eat the green thin sheet. It’s plastic.

My wife ordered the Salmon Teriyaki. It was a large portion, well cooked, and delicious. The prices were quite reasonable for the serving sizes and the experience.

Tip: If you have need of a ramp such as for a wheelchair or walker be aware there is NO visible sign at the entrance steps telling you that the ramp is well off to the left of the stairs virtually hidden by the shrubbery.

Overall: a lovely park with a very long walk.

Lovely Historic Setting

By ellen r |

Watch the movie before enjoying a leisurely walk through the lovely period gardens rather than making this a power walk destination. Choose a weekday for fewer children to disrupt the quiet. We were not able to eat at restaurant as there was a 20+ minute wait.

Love this place. We've been 3 times and love it more each time. Go and walk and breath and relax. Take a moment to be present and thankful. Side note, open sandals will get gravel in them. Maybe sneaker or walking slip-ons are best.

A Gem

By cbfield |

Such a beautiful place. The paths through the gardens are arranged in a wonderful layout that takes one through the time period development of Japanese gardens. Very educational. A well-kept garden and a peaceful place.

Wonderful way to spend an afternoon!

By mwfoodie |

The Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens is truly a hidden gem—an oasis of peace, beauty, and cultural richness tucked away in South Florida.

The highlight for me was wandering through the bonsai garden. The trees are exquisite—each one a living work of art. What really elevated the experience were the educational plaques alongside the bonsai displays. They offered fascinating background on the history, philosophy, and techniques behind the practice, giving depth and meaning to what you’re viewing. You walk away not just admiring the beauty, but understanding the reverence behind it.

While the museum does offer several short video clips, I recommend skipping those and spending your time immersed in the expansive, beautifully maintained gardens. With a map in hand, it’s easy to explore the various distinct garden styles, each with its own character and atmosphere. Every turn brings a new sense of discovery—from tranquil stone lanterns to arched bridges to shaded pathways.

What makes the walk particularly magical are the little surprises along the way—like the sudden appearance of koi fish rippling through a pond, a turtle sunning itself on a rock, or even an iguana lounging nearby. These unexpected glimpses of nature add to the authenticity and wonder of the space.

Don’t miss the gift shop on your way out—it’s not just the usual fare. The items here are carefully curated, from handcrafted ceramics to delicate paper goods and Japanese teas. I found several unique pieces that make for perfect keepsakes from a truly memorable visit.

Whether you’re interested in Japanese culture, art, nature, or just seeking a peaceful afternoon, the Morikami offers an enriching and restorative escape. Highly recommend!

Peace and Tranquility abound here, Do Not miss this place.

By Dante-Donna |

OMG- what a great relaxing and enjoyable experience, a place truly not to be missed if you are in the area. Tranquil and beautifully appointed abound this sanctuary for sure. Stroll and take in all the beauty that is offered here, its all yours for the taking.

Boring waste of time and money

By gothelder |

Not what I was expecting very boring you can only look at the same trees for so long. Rock gardens were nothing special. No exotic rocks or monoliths. Absolutely nothing nothing special to see here. Fairchild gardens or pine crest gardens in Miami are a much better option.

Beautiful gardens and reminder of forgotten history

By Antonio C |

beautiful gardens donated by one of the original japanese settlers of the Yamato Colony; beautiful story that is never told in our history books.
There is a traditional japanese wood house with a very interesting and short history of the japanese settlers during the first half of the past century.
The main house has a gift shop and a goof and affordable cafeteria with gorgeous views of the gardens.

Lovely and Interesting

By lifeisforlearning |

Love this place for walking along the paths and for the art exhibits. Parking fills up so get here early.

Interesting Japanese Gardens

By Richard_Harpum |

My wife and I visited the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens during a Florida vacation.
It is definitely worth visiting if you are in the Boca Raton area. Parking is free and we booked online ahead of our visit.
There is a well-signposted walking route around the gardens, which takes about an hour to stroll through. As expected, there was plenty of variety in the various gardens.
The museum was also interesting.

Beautiful quiet place

By JensHedegaardNielsen |

Little prixet for a one time visit but spectacular and a Nice break from Beach and malls
Stroller friendly

Given the bum’s rush at closing.

By Hn27 |

This is a lovely place however I greatly resented the way the staff rushed us out at exactly 5 pm. I understood that it was open until 5 which I assumed meant that they stopped admitting people at 6. Not so. We were strolling leisurely at the far end of the gardens when guards appeared at about 10 minutes to 5 and bluntly told us to leave. And then kept insisting as we strolled towards the exit. It completely ruined the experience for me. It was particularly annoying because my friend had recently had knee surgery so needed to stop and rest periodically.

They need to at least post a large sign at the entrance advising customers that they must leave by 5 pm.

A very disappointing experience

Beautiful

By Joel W |

The gardens are beautiful and it is tranquil. Come hungry and get a bento box or sushi/sashimi for lunch on an outdoor patio with a gorgeous setting. Their exhibitions are great too, including a relatively recent one on the history of Japanese tattooing. Amazing.

Peaceful tranquility

Morikami Gardens are a very peaceful place to enjoy the tranquility of nature. Take your time wandering through the gardens. Plenty of benches to sit and rest if you are not able to walk around the park without doing so. One of our favorite places, we purchased an annual membership so we can visit all year!

Exceeded our expectations! Wow!

Beautiful!

The walk around their lagoon is, simply, beautiful. I’d been coming to Delray Beach for years and never bothered to visit Morikami Gardens. We finally did about twenty years ago and have been back over and over for the past twenty years. Beautiful, relaxing, and fun for older people and little kids too.

Stunning & Serene

By Travelhound |

These beautifully matured and maintained Japanese Gardens are a must if you're in Palm Beach County. They've been attracting visitors since 1977 with some 200 acres of playgrounds, picnic areas, and rotating exhibits in the museum. Guided tours are available, but I loved exploring the well-designed trails with friends, stopping along the way to meditate or simply enjoy the changing botanical vistas. It's so atmospheric you won't believe you're in south Florida, unless, like me, you spot an alligator basking in the sunshine with jaws agape. This place is amazing!

Thanks for the visit

Excellent place to visit for an unusual cultural experience. Convenient location close to highways and major roads.

My wife and I became Members of the museum after visiting one time. Such a beautiful and tranquil space. Interesting to learn the backstory on the Japanese influence on the agriculture of the South Florida area. Also learned the backstory of the some of the street names in Delray and Boca. Beautiful space to visit.

Nice Getaway

By Alysia P |

I really enjoyed my visit to the Morikami with my two boys ages 8 and 4. My admission was $15 and $9 for my 8 yr old. My 4 yr old was free. You can buy fish food at the front for $1 to feed the koi and turtles you will see along the path. Very peaceful and relaxing place. Lots of benches to sit and enjoy the scenery. It does get very hot during the summertime so make sure you bring lots of water with you. There are many benches to sit on that are in the shade. The front building also has a cafe where you can buy Japanese food, ice cream, soda etc. I loved it and so did my kids. Great spot to check out!

We thoroughly enjoyed the Morikami Museum & Japanese Gardens. The Japanese gardens were beautifully and naturally landscaped with winding paths you could explore at your own own pace. Best lunch anywhere and great gift shop

Better than expected

By Freddie |

Beautiful Japanese gardens that are neatly divided into sections with brief descriptions on the style and time period. My husband and I went to Japan on our honeymoon, and we learned more about Japanese garden styles here than in Japan. We got there around 11am and it was a little busy but we had no problem getting in or finding peaceful spots to sit and relax. The cafe was very good. Well worth the price to enjoy good Japanese food with a great view. The Anime Architecture exhibit was outstanding. I want to give a special shootout to the guard that was in Anime Architecture at approx 1pm. She was kind, attentive, and very friendly. Even when she had to remind people not to take photos, she went out of her way to explain why photos were not allowed and even gave some information on the exhibit at large and helped people navigate the space.

A gem in Boca Raton

By Paradise599044 |

A must stop. Beautiful Japanesr gardens, history of the Japanese workers who built the state railroads and more!

A nice walk

By Samantha S |

We drove up earlier in the morning so we’d miss the heat of the day, still needed up with a real feel of 107, ouch! The gardens provided us with some shade occasionally, which was nice. It was about a mile walk around, the front desk gentleman told us to get to the museum and then walk back the way we came. If it wasn’t so hot this would have been nice, as between the museum and the main building is just a grassy area. We were hot and hungry so we walked the grassy area. Overall it was a nice walk, the entire walkway is small pebbles/rocks. I was expecting a bit more koi in the waters (there were 3), and some more Japanese history. It was nice for a quiet walk, with pretty floral scenery. Probably not worth the $15 a person but it was still something nice for a midwestern person to see.

Return visit

By archman8 |

Every time we go to Delray we visit Morikami. We never tire of a peaceful walk through the beautiful gardens.

Visit every time I come to South Florida

By Central217 |

I ♥️Morikami Gardens. Go there often. It never gets old. Always bring a friend or relative for their first time. Amazing they all live in Florida, I don’t, and they are going for the first time. And they are always amazed how beautiful and contemplative an experience it is. The person I bought this time loved the large Koi and the Bonsai. If it is not too hot will go back soon

Tranquility Amongst The Crowd

By BRIAN B |

If you think of coming here for tranquility you may want to consider when to do that.

A National Holiday may not be the best choice as we found ourselves part of a continuous crowd slowly walking around this rather pleasantly designed gardens.

Yes there are many tranquil spots but you are unlikely to be alone in any one of them for more than a few seconds. So yes it's worth visiting here, just don't expect to be away from the maddening crowd! You'll be walking along as part of it!

While there is a lot of green in evidence, January may not be the month for any additional color.

The gift shop, as crowded as a New York City subway car in rush hour, is well stocked with Japanese items.

Beautiful Place, Well Organized, Extremely Well Managed

By Michael A |

Really pleasant experience. Truly exceptional grounds presented and maintained to a very high standard. ùit was a total pleasure wandering slowly through the paths and seating areas enjoying not only the trees, flowers and lake, but also the wildlife that Florida is famous for. There was a small alligator under a foorbridge, eyeing what might be dinner, and the lake is thick with colourful, large and fleshy koi fish, several types of turtles, and we even saw a large and pretty hideous snake sunning on a rock near the waterfalls. God, I hate snakes. Nearly bolted when I saw it (I know, not very hyper-alpha of me, but there we go ; (

Dine, stroll, observe.

By pwpe2018 |

Morikami allows the visitor many options. One can commence a visit with a delightful lunch at their cafe. A stroll along a stone path is delightful to the eye as well as healthy for the stroller. During the day one can see different wildlife such as the iguana, turtle, fish, alligator, and butterflies. At night there may be a floating lantern festival which will delight the young and the old.

Peaceful

By Superdave86753909 |

The gardens are a relaxing walk around a serene lake , through bamboo thickets , over bridges , and a cute museum with historical artifacts, the restaurant is actually excellent and a great place to have a nice lunch!
Well worth the visit if you come to palm beach
I’ve been there dozens of times , you will enjoy the time spent.

First, it's not a museum. Second, it's a decent Japanese garden, but not a great one

By scott r |

If you've been to other Japanese gardens you may be a little underwhelmed. There is no temple, no real courtyard garden, the bonsai are neither very intresting nor well dispplayed (there is the requisite koi pond with turtles as well, however). There are a number of interesting garden rooms and water features, and the 'clack' of the bamboo forest was a worthwhile auditory experience - passed unnoticed by most (fairly crowded the day I visited so you have to work for serenity). No museum to speak of - an exhibit on anime instead, but I'd have actally preferred longer movie clips to the technical 'cell' drawings. In all, so-so and perhaps a good introduction to what these gardens can be so worth a stop if you have nothing particular planned.

Don't miss this amazing place!

By Gary S |

What a beautful, tranquil spot amidst the sprawl of south Florida. It was a rainy day, so we decided to skip the beach and check out this place. What a gem! The walk around the gardens is amazing, with different kinds of trees and plants, lake views, and several varieties of Japanese gardens. The house on site is very cool, showing an example of Japanese home life, and with fascinating information about a Japanese colony that existed in south Florida for decades. I learned a lot while also having a very zen experience.

Mesmerizing Morikami

By Harmonie |

There’s a reason why the Morikami Gardens have a travelers choice award and it’s hidden within the delicate pink and orange flowers, nestled into the shrubs and wispy trees. You’ll find it down the winding pathway along the rock gardens and amongst the turtles that swim happily within the creeks and lake that the gardens surround.
If you’re seeking a quiet hour or two or just interested in seeing a pristine Japanese garden, then you don’t want to miss this place! The museum was also very nice and a cool place to learn more about the gardens and get out of the sun. When I visited there weren’t any additional exhibits since the most recent one had just wrapped up a week earlier. I suggest spending about 2 hours here. They also have a cafe onsite (Cornell cafe). In my opinion the cafe was just okay. I ordered a California roll and a mango boba. The roll was very dry and the boba was mediocre.

A relaxing expanse of property , trees, lakes , and so much more !

Bring a hat and sun protection, although there are shaded areas you will want to spend a good part of the day enjoying this Garden leisurely. It is a relaxing place to visit and photograph. Lots to see and do .
Many special cultural events for members and guests as well. Just enjoy .......

A Treasure

By Calla Lilly |

The history of these gardens is fascinating. It is a beautiful way to spend the day. Be sure to eat at the authentic cafe. What a treat to have tea and a lovely Japanese inspired lunch.

Tranquil, beautiful oasis with outstanding food and exhibit.

By Clair B |

The garden made me realize how much I love Japanese gardens. Beautiful lake with huge koi, turtles and a great blue heron framed the six major garden areas. Docent was great, but using the audio would be fine too. Each garden was designed specifically with one thing in mind so it is very interesting. The old museum was being renovated, but the newer area was open with an excellent Animae exhibit, terrific gift shop and video about the place. The Cornell Cafe Bento box was utterly amazing...shrimp, noodles with veggies, chicken, dumplings, tofu, spring roll, California roll and dessert...each item beautifully done and so so tasty.
A wonderful spot to hear the creaking bamboo and contemplate the beauty of simple raked pebbles.

A beautiful gem in South Florida

By grammabanana11 |

I had some free time to spend in the Boynton Beach, Delray Beach area of Florida & looked online for someplace interesting to visit. The Morikami Gardens caught my eye because I have visited Japan in the past and this would take me back there in a manner of speaking. It was a cloudy day when I went but very pleasant and the whole atmosphere was very relaxing. This is a wonderful place not only to walk through but to sit and relax and read or study or meditate. I walked through the gardens twice as it looks like a long way on the map but really isn't that hard to do. Lots of interesting plants and rocks and waterfalls along the way. I saw koi and a heron (I think) and turtles. The essence of tranquility in the hustle & bustle of South Florida. The museum's anime exhibit was interesting plus I loved the little gift shop and also the restaurant on premises. If I lived in the area, I would be there quite a bit.

A beautiful, serene, and educational experience

By Sharon Z |

I’ve been to the Morikami multiple times, and every visit has been a pleasure. I’ve gone wandering the gardens and museum solo without a plan on a whim, and enjoyed myself. I’ve gone with my then-teenage stepdaughter, an artist and anime enthusiast who appreciates Japanese aesthetics and culture, and she loved it. Years ago, before I met my now-husband, I even went there as a first date, and even though the relationship didn’t last, that first date was lovely, and I endorse the Morikami as a terrific date option, one that *can* include a meal but doesn’t have to.

TripAdvisor requires me to choose a single type of visit and a single date. I recommend the Morikami for couples, families (though it might not be ideal for restless or rowdy kids under 5), friends, solo, or even some kinds of business.

I don’t work for the Morikami, and no one is asking me to gush about the place for anyone’s benefit. I just like the place a lot, and when I lived closer to the place, I had a membership.

Total Zen Experience

By Pat S |

Beautiful gardens, waterfalls, trails, Koi fish, turtles, bonsai trees, museum and art show. Also has a small snack shop. We went in the rain and it was still lovely. I saw bunnies, and cranes as well. A great experience for everyone.

Beautiful, relaxing venue for the entire family

This is truly a gem to visit. You can’t imagine the tranquility, beautiful foliage and history surrounding Morikami. It’s a location that the entire family can enjoy.

10 stars

By bert f |

Exceptional, you don’t need to read these reviews, just go, try to avoid peak hours, it will get crowded. While we did not eat there, everyone we have spoken to says the food is wonderful as well.

Well worth visiting

By shreni z |

Great weather. The narration app was perfectly helpful. The walk around the gardens was beautiful. The story was very cool!

Good place

By Kseniya P |

Good place. But I personally think that it’s cool only for 1 visit. It’s not a huge area. 30 minutes and you've walked around the entire park. But anyway you must visit it at least one time! Also I saw that there are tea ceremony sometimes. Sounds interesting 🧐

Amazing

By klokan0426 |

Absolutely wonderful place, very calming and tranquil gardens. Even animals are there posing for pictures.

Beaurtifu but tiring with no wheelchairs to rent.

By Sharee H |

I read some negative reviews that said these gardens were not very well maintained, but I did not find that to be the case. I thought they were incredible. I would have thoroughly enjoyed my visit had they had wheelchairs available to rent, like some other facilities w visited (Butterfly Word and Flamingo Gardens). I used my walker, but it is such a long walk that even stopping to rest on every single bench, I was totally worn out when we were done. I'd like to have visited the museum, and probably would have spent money in their gift shop, but I was too exhausted. I was pleased that all the patrons that da wore masks and social distancing was observed as much as possible. The gardens were lovely and tranquil and I would have given more stars had they rented wheelchairs.

Lovely gardens

By Anne R |

Lovely place. I suggest going when it is a bit cooler though. There is shade, but when it is in the 90's outside, it is still very hot there. Nice walk around the gardens and interesting exhibits in the museum. Take time to watch the movies as they are interesting. Allow about 2 hours so you have time to see everything.

Relaxing and Soothing Experience

By Saransh Sharma |

Perfect place to visit on a lazy Sunday. Absolutely loved the breathtaking walk with nature. Good Parking space and cafe with all necessary food items.

Tranquil Delight

By NJ C |

With a wandering walkway through a variety of Japanese gardens in different historical style, this is a very peaceful garden. There is a large central lake and part of the gardens are on islands accessed over bridges. Everything is calm and green, with occasional splashes of muted flowers. Delightful.

The Gardens are so beautiful!

The Gardens are so beautiful and enchanting! I just love strolling around looking at the beautiful scenery. It's so relaxing and peaceful.

Incredible

By Vitarachel |

If I lived in Delray I would buy a membership to these gardens and just come and sit on nice days. The gardens are serene, beautifully kept, and peaceful. There is an awesome bonsai tree exhibit, and a lovely gift shop. Very nice.

Must see!

By William K |

A real destination point for Delray. Beautiful gardens and landscaping. Historical designs, contemporary displays. The gift shop is a gem. A bit pricey but get a discount coupon elsewhere and don't miss this experience.

Beautiful Gardens and Yummy Food

By Sandy E |

Beautiful gardens, comfortable walking path, peaceful enviornment and deliciious dumplings and sushi in their restaurant (which overlooks the gardens) made for a lovely two hour visit.

A lovely zen experience

By susanseider |

Walking around these gardens and lake was a wonderful experience. We felt so relaxed and really enjoyed it. The Koi and turtles as well as the museum are fantastic to see as well.

Simply beautiful

By SpunkyJ |

We went for the Japanese Festival and it was a great time. Lots of good food and excellent entertainment. This place is magical and I would love to go back when it's quieter to really enjoy the meditation areas. So glad we went!

Just gorgeous!

By Jasmine38Chichester UK |

This is such a stunning place. As soon as you arrive, walk up to the entrance buildung, there is a beautiful small garden display which hints at what is to come.

Six different types of Japanese garden are set out on a circular trail of just under a mile around a lake. Its breathtaking as soon as you walk in and see it all laid out before you.

There is also a lovely bonsai display and a revolving Japanese art exhibit. Unfortunately the main house is closed for refurbishment but the exterior is still picturesque. The grounds are also home to plenty of iguana, birds, alligator and huge koi carp.

We didnt try out the on site restaurant but there was a continuous line for a table so I'm guessing it's pretty good.

On Saturdays there is also a tea ceremony.

Adult entrance fee is $15 and IMO well worth it. Allow around 2 hours for your visit - more if you want to have lunch at the restaurant There is plenty of on site parking and an adjacent wooded park which is free

Caffe Luna Rosa is lovely.

Beach view is great. Food good. Salads huge.
Burgers yummy. Pasta sauce delicious. Excellent service.

Enchanting Japanese Garden

By Junilyn Ventura |

We enjoyed taking an afternoon stroll through the paths of Morikami Gardens. The grounds were much bigger than expected as walkways meandered over bridges, by lakes, statues, through the bonzai exhibit, and by many active iguanas. There were a number couples, families, as well as photographers celebrating the beauty, peace, and serenity of this enchanting Asian Garden. A great place to visit and explore.

Pretty scenery but hot weather

By Arina Z |

The Morikami museum is extremely gorgeous to visit. They have great sculptures and traditional temples. As well, they have plenty of beautiful flowers and tree overhangs. The garden in its self is nice, however, do not visit in the summer months. It is extremely hot and unenjoyable to walk the 3 miles or more. The garden is worth it, but the gift shop is not. The items are overpriced and not of the best quality. But nice gardens to visit.

Peaceful and Quiet

By Brent Borowski |

Been here many times with my family. I loved how peaceful and quiet the gardens were. You can read a book here if you’d like or just sit down and relax and walk around. Lots of photos and videos to take here as well. I also think the Gift shop was even cooler with things from Japan that you can’t find in the US. The bathrooms were also pretty clean I would recommend coming here and checking things out.

Morikami Japanese gardens is a destination that transcends time and place nestled in South Florida.

By Art K |

My wife and I went to the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens which is a center for Japanese arts and culture located in Delray Beach in Palm Beach County, Florida. The campus includes two museum buildings, the Roji-en Japanese Gardens: Garden of the Drops of Dew, a bonsai garden, library, gift shop, and a Japanese restaurant, called the Cornell Cafe, which has been featured on the Food Network. Rotating exhibits are displayed in both buildings, and demonstrations, including tea ceremonies and classes, are held in the main building. Traditional Japanese festivals are celebrated several times a year. I'm giving three stars as they charged full admission even though the museum was closed for renovations.

$15 is a bargain to relax

By frankcutronijr |

The gardens are so relaxing. There are a lot of iguanas. The Latern Festival is the biggest event in October.

Our Tranquil Place to Visist

By Debra B |

My husband and I have been members for several years. It is our tranquil place to go walk for the Japanese gardens and for exercise. My husband is a landscape designer, he recommends people to visit the gardens. We enjoy the Japanese culture festivals, museum exhibits, eating at the cafe and shopping at the museum store.

Beautiful

Drove by this place for years. Finally visited one very hot afternoon. Was pleasantly surprised at how well maintained it was. Beautiful and peaceful place to visit.

Hidden Jewel of South Florida

My husband and I made this our#1 stop before checking in to our Airbnb. Beautiful gardens and the tour guide was wonderful. Japanese lunch was perfect. thanks

Serene beautiful place

By Elise N |

Visiting here was very nice, enjoyed the educational information and loved the walkways. This place is quite calming, worthy of the entrant fee. Easy to find, park and follow the walkways. Not really good for walkers or wheelchairs as most of the walkways are gravel. Food in cafe was very good. Overall it was a great place to spend time.

A great place

By Nancy A |

Just a wonderful place to go. It's well laid out and not a long walk at all. Lunch at the cafe was very good, but be aware, it's outside. So, a little toasty in the summer in S. Fl.

Morikami beautiful, but minus 1 star

By Elaine K |

Morikami Gardens is a beauiful oasis ! Just under a mile, you walk slowly while seeing magnificent floral and fauna. Takes about an hour to walk through. Easy walk. Excellent restaurant for lunch. I recommend the vegetarian Bento box. The minus 1 star: While buying our ticket we were bombarded by the women behind the counter listing rules and regulations as if she was reading it. The last one was a question: Would you like to buy a one year membership. We said we've never been here and will do the walk and then decide. She said if we decide after the walk, we will not be able to apply the $30 we are paying for admission to the cost of the membership, you have to decide now. Not very nice. They would get more members if they would apply the fee to the membership. Totally turned as off before we got in the door.

Fabulous Japanese Museum and Japanese Gardens

By ACBoca |

This is an excellent Japanese museum and the grounds are Japanese gardens of different eras and styles including two Zen gardens. Highly recommend a visit if you live or are touring Palm Beach County. Located in western Delray Beach,FL.

We started our first to have lunch in the cafe . Then we walked around the grounds and took pictures.

By SunshineMontreal |

We ( 3 couples ) had lunch in the cafe before we ventured out to
Walk in the beautiful gardens !
Was a gorgeous day , hot sun , and beautiful flowers and trees to
Admire with the occasional 🦎 and great Blue Heron , and a Zebra Butterfly 🦋!

Very nice place to spend a couple of hours

By heimlichrw |

We visited the Gardens on a Thursday afternoon. We had lunch at the museum restaurant and both the food and service were very good. We wandered through the Gardens for another hour and a half and the experience was both educational and enjoyable. Unfortunately the museum was closed.

Serene space nature

By Jen8310 |

Morikami provides a beautiful nature walk that includes several Japanese gardens. The free app explains aspects of each type of garden in an easy and walking path which is also wheelchair accessible. Some stairs to the moderately higher elevations could be difficult for some walkers. The information provided on the docent guided tour is interesting and informative.

The latest exhibit at the museum shared modern laquers and animals created using reclaimed kitchen utensils, really creative.

The cafe on site is available from 11 am to 3 pm, no reservations and weekends could be crowded. Cost for entry is $15, memberships available and give discounts and special entry for special events. Also, the museum gives demo of tea ceremony, lectures/movies, and language lessons.

A real gem in West Delray, well worth it.

Beautiful and authentic - including the food

By marion J |

Absolutely stunning. Lots of different gardens based on different eras and styles. Don't overlook the one at the back of the visitor centre - most people walk past without noticing. Also Japanese gates and bridges and streams and waterfalls. . Having been to Japan I can assure you this is very Japanese!! Quite a bit of wildlife about too. You MUST have lunch at the cafe overlooking the gardens - the japanese food was delightful and well priced.

Excellent place to be.

By AB_Stb_OZ |

This is a great park with a Museum and a variety of small Japanese gardens. A peaceful Zen garden and a great collection of old and antique bonsai trees

Well worth a visit.

By Bibi H |

Given the pandemic, we decided on a day trip to a wide open space. We chose the Morikami Gardens and Museum. Not disappointed at all. We loved the experience. A beautifully maintained site. We enjoyed the history as well as the sights which include garden sections for different eras in Japanese gardening styles and featuring ponds, rocks, Japanese lanterns, waterfalls, bamboo groves, birds, koi fishes, turtles, and other wild-life. A truly relaxing and enjoyable experience. Loved the museum too - well curated to capture authentic Japanese culture. Neat gift shop where we shared a tin of wasabi peas. Highly recommend.

Zen please

By Gregory P |

Fantastic array of Japanese style gardens and water features. Man made transformation of flat Florida into serene mountains and waterfalls with huge rock formations that bend reality into Japanese landscapes. Highly recommended for a zen inducing experience with some easy walking exercise.

A nice way to spend some peaceful time

By milliegordon2 |

Lovely, interesting experience. Peaceful and enjoyable stroll through the gardens. Movie at the beginning gave a very nice history.

Stunning but not much to do!

By coolmammaa |

Very beautiful place but it’s just for a walk around. There are no areas to sit and have a picnic, for example.
$12 would be more than fair for this activity in my opinion. Personal is very friendly.
They do not take apple pay. Only physical card or cash.
It is worth the visit but you do not need more than 2h.
I was amazed to learn that any tree can be a bonsai, its just a process where they shape the branches with wires ❤️🥰

Museum Closed

By Seamere |

$15 to walk around the garden.
We were not told upon entering and pay that the museum was closed and that only the gardens would be available. Instead we paid our $15 made a tour of the gardens came back in when it look like was going to rain to go through the museum only to be then told that the museum was closed.

Even without the main museum open (temporarily closed for renovation), a great visit.

By Marshall B |

When we were there the museum – the original building – was being remodeled (which will apparently include the air conditioning), but the gallery in the newer building – which was featuring "anime architecture", was still very interesting, as is the film on the history of the site and its benefactor played in the theater. The highlight, of course, was walking through the many gardens (there is an excellent brochure, with map, to assist you on the way), There are views not only of trees and flowers and carefully maintained landscapes and paths, but also numerous turtles and koi fish. We also spied an alligator (there is sign prominently displayed) and a wood stork while there. Very relaxing, and if you have time enjoy a bite at the cafe.

Nice Place to Relax, but ...

By william h |

The gardens are a nice place to relax, but isn't any park? The gardens have some interesting and unique features such as the reproduction of a Japanese house and school room. I found it was just a large park with overpriced admission. For $15 per person my wife and I could have gone to the local park and see the same wildlife if not more for free. I honestly was expecting replicas of pagodas throughout the gardens, but not one was present. Furthermore, there were very few flowers present which is strange because it is a garden. I appreciate the water falls and the scenic bridges and the tranquil effect it had. I also question the wording of museum in the name as one exhibit hall does not make a museum.

A Palm Beach County Gem

By ref2s |

Beautiful gardens, informative and spiritual. Excellent restaurant and exhibits (latter closed temporarily). Can see something different every visit. Secret score is to go when it's raining lightly, if you don't mind walking around under an umbrella. Much less people and very calming atmosphere.

Excellent

By Marina M |

Gorgeous gardens (about a mile walk). Very peaceful. Suggest doing the audio tour through your phone. The cafe is delicious. Definitely go into the museum!

Great day trip

By Ian |

I have wanted to go to the Morikami Gardens and Museum for year but for one reason or another it kept getting put off. I regret not going sooner. The garden and grounds were very well kept and layout in a relaxing but entertaining way. I felt transported into Edo Japan while walking among bamboo groves and praying at shrines. It was also surprisingly fun just to watch the koi fish from the bridge. The museum was very cool and showcased Buddhist art. The Morikami is a jewel of the Palm Beaches and is a must stop at location whether on vacation or seeking enlightenment.
