1 of 29 Best Attractions in Narragansett

I may be biased because I'm a Narragansett resident but I have been to just about every beach in this state and I rank Narragansett Town Beach as the very best! Clean, sandy beach all the way out til over your head; no rocks at all and only rarely is there seaweed. The Narragansett Towers looming overhead add to it's grandeur

It is a good RI beach if you get there early ( 8 am ). It fills up fast, and parking later is a nightmare.

My only complaint is that they charge admission now. They did not charge in previous years. This may make it harder for a low-income family to visit. Perhaps a sliding-scale fee? The beaches and restrooms are in top condition, so I imagine the fees help pay for this. I really love walking this beach off season, too.

Narragansett Beach is a wide, flat wonderful beach that is extremely well-maintained. The strengths of the beach are that it's very family oriented, much cleaner than most public beaches, and the views from the beach are spectacular. The life guard function is well handled by a very fit crew of life guards. It could be one of the top ten beaches of the New England area.
Relative to room for improvement, there's virtually no weekend parking for anyone who is not from the Narragansett area. We surveyed much of the area adjacent to the town beach and found very few spots available offering 2-hour parking. There was one lot across the street from the beach for non-residents, but it was full. On the other hand, most of the parking offered for the beach was permit-parking but only for residents of Narragansett and it was relatively empty, but unavailable to non-residents.
Along most of the US coast, towns, villages, cities, and private property owners must allow access to the coastline. At Narragansett Beach, one has to be a local to obtain parking/pay for parking, and the beach is gated so that you cannot obtain open access. During the hours we visited the beach, the beach admission is $10 per person. We don't understand how that is legally possible, but it seems to be a policy that has been in place for years. A final caution is that visitors to the area need to be mindful that 2-hour parking means 2 hours. We saw several visitors who received citations for parking violations because they exceeded the time limit.
This is a great place to go, but you'll have to go there early in the day, find a better place to park, come prepared for either a short 2-hour or uncertain duration stay, and be sure to move your car after two hours, if you park on the street.

Perfect weekday visit. Not crowded. Plenty to do. Great weather. We stopped in many of the shops in the area. Shop owners/employees were polite and friendly. Food at the three places we used was excellent with great service. Can't wait to go back in August.

Narragansett is supposed.to be a “town” beach, and if you’re lucky, you just might be able to find a parking spot if you are a town resident in the summer. I’ve been going to this beach since
I was a kid, but as tourists have swamped the town and the beach has eroded, unless you want people on top of you, don’t bother. High tide is ridiculous, the beach shrinks to half its side and you can barely get to the water. Umbrellas on top of umbrellas. People on top of people. If you want to enjoy the beach, go between Labor Day and Memorial Day. Pure bliss. Summer time? Forget it.

We arrived the beach early in the morning. The water was cold. Not very crowded. Many sea gulls and great views of the ocean. Will go there again.

i love Rhode Island for the view ,the beach and the food ,i love the east coast and i will go every year

Last minute trip with family and friends and after spending two weeks on the cape what a joy going to a beach not to far from home with awesome waves, you won't find free public parking unless you plan on getting to beach by 7am, public parking is located right across from entrance so it's not that bad of a walk and very manageable, you do have to pay for parking and entrance which can get expensive if you would also like to purchase food but it probably keeps the riff raff out!
Lunch restaurant has everything, del's on beach as well, great day trip! Fun waves, and will def. come back! Very crowded but it was in 90's on a Sunday,

Walk to the mouth of the river, jump in and ride the tide! Nice clientele, great surf, soft sand. Lucky to have this beach so close to home!

Beautiful beach. A great place for a walk. Went in off season in April on a sunny, breezy day in the 50's. Not many people around. Very calming and lovely ocean views. Plan to go everyday I am in the area.

Beautiful beach that allows surfing to one side. Food at concessions is much better than usual fried food at this type of venue. Food trucks on Mondays and Wednesday's in summer at night.

In the heart of Narragansett, lovely beach for swimming or surfing. The entire area is special. Clean beach houses. Go for a concert for a really great time!

My fifth consecutive trip was awesome as always! This by far the very best charter out of Rhode Island.

First time here and loved it. Huge waves that our kids loved! Bathrooms were clean. Sand was beautiful. Beach was closed but that only meant no life guards. Wasn't real crowded and everyone had space. May have found a new favorite beach. Heard usually you pay for parking and entrance but not this time. We will come back for sure!

Even though this beach gets crowded every summer, it has been a favorite of ours for years. Its clean, beautiful sandy beaches is a great place for friends, families and everyone in between. Surfers and swimmers are in their own designated areas.

Also known as town beach, surfing is allowed, board rentals and lessons are available. They have facilities, restaurants, but it is very busy.

We have enjoyed this beach so much and so have family that everyone buys a summer beach pass. Although parking is an issue, its worth the visit, the sand is great and surf moderate and pavilion clean and staff very friendly.

Go before the crowds come. Play in the waves. Surf on a boogie board. Leave before it gets too crowded.

Having lived in the town for years, we enjoyed this beach many many times especially with our children. We loved the southeast facing beach for waves. Great body surfing, it’s also used by surfers on the south end. The only reason I didn’t give it five stars is because the parking can be tough during peak times in the summer and weekends.

We stayed at The Ocean Rose, it was about a 5 minute walk. It's a very nice beach, kept nice and clean. It cost $10 per day in the summer and is free after 5 PM. There are life guards posted every 100 ft. or so. Much of the beach is reserved for surf boarders so the other side gets pretty crowded on a hot day. I understand why, no one wants to get plowed over by a surf board! I heard they show movies on the beach certain nights, we weren't there for that, but I bet that's fun!

Narragansett Beach is a beautiful spot. It’s a perfect mile long beach with clean water, great surf and smooth sand but it’s drawback is the cost. Unless you are a town resident the admission fee is $10 per person. Parking is limited and expensive as well. A much better choice is the State Beach Scarborough just 2 miles away.

This beach is awesome! It is the nicest one I have been to in Rhode Island! I come here on my days that I have off of work and just chill out. There's a ton of parking: Insider Tip: Pay nothing for parking after 5 PM v. $10. Recommended: Beach chairs

I love Narragansett Beach. The sand is soft and there are no obstructions in the water. The downside is that it's expensive so I only go after work when there's no charge.

From the iconic Towers arch to the Dunes Club, this stretch of Narragansett Bay is one of the most popular surfing spots in the state. Locals have purchased seasonal municipal beach passes, so it gets crowded.

come early for best parking. good sand, clean beach, has been a tourist beach and for locals for over 100 years. food and rest, chainging rooms available.family beach, waves run about a foot but at one end they have surfers. a great family beach. fee is charged at the front going in. charge for parking if you can find some.

This is one of the best beaches on Rhode Island but it is absolutely impossible to get parking in the area which is so frustrating. Great beach with excellent surf 🏄♂️ but ruined bu having to go back to the car after two hours to move it. Spent 30 mins finding another parking spot!

Narragansett is one heck of a beautiful part of this earth! The beach is pristine and just a lovely sight.

Plenty of parking. 12 dollars for the day. Big beach. Water was quite rough but that's just nature I guess. Lifeguards very attentive. Kids really enjoyed.

clean, sandy beach, clean facilities, good snack bar. One downside is $10 parking plus $10 per person to walk onto the beach. On the plus side is this town does invest in the beach with good facilities and staffing.

My husband and I stayed in Newport for our honeymoon, since our original plans to Fiji were canceled. We heard mixed reviews of the beaches there and we were told they were charging everyone season passes (~$150); no day passes allowed. A hotel staff member recommended going to Narraganset Town Beach even though it was further away than the Newport beaches and we are SO glad she did! It was approximately a 30 minute drive from Gurneys and so worth it! We found free street parking about 5 minutes away from the beach entrance, and we only had to pay $10 each for the day. While the beach was no Fiji beach, it was absolutely beautiful and clean. It was so nice to go there and be able to see your feet in the water (this is coming from someone who lives in Brooklyn, NY, where the beaches are cringeworthy). There is even a nearby restaurant, Coast Guard House, where you can grab lunch. We would definitely go back!!!

The beaches were crowded with both bathers and surfers and it was fun to watch all of the goings on. The water was refreshing and we enjoyed the afternoon there.

Beautiful and well kept Beach - proved to extra room and was a fun place. Just suggest staying at a hotel that is not one of the ones close to the beach.

I’ll see if you think my pictures speak more eloquently than words. I enjoyed swimming in the sea and running along the warm sands in strong bright sunlight. Cycling around Narragansett is pleasant too. There are many fine coastal properties looking imperious and commanding like the admiralty!

Part of this beach is reserved for surfing but it is fun to watch them. Lots of activity with paddleboarders and surfers and swimmers and runners.
Fee to get in after 9am I think. $8. But there is a bath house and parking on site (that is extra $)
Lifeguards on duty. Waters were clean and beaches excellently cared for.

Beautiful beach! Be sure to walk to end where you can jump into a whirlpool and be taken out to the ocean; thrilling but safe! Only problem now is there are no passes for nonresidents so be ready to pay $10 a head to get in and that does not include parking.

Certainly can get crowded on hot summer days, esp. weekends, but this is a gorgeous beach with excellent facilities, more after 5 with music and movie events and food trucks 2 nights a week.
GO!

The beach is wide with white sands and we experienced very little litter. You can rent chairs and umbrellas at concessions which was important since we were traveling and didn't have any. The beach has a very, very gradual incline into the water which is great for families, but less so for teens and adults. Within walking distance of George's Seafood restaurant, ice cream and other amenities in addition to the large concession stand at the beach proper. It was crowded, but not unreasonably so and people were considerate (no blasting music or raucous partying).

Big beach area - good waves to bodysurf and to use boogie boards. Clean bathrooms and changing areas.

The Narragansett Beach is a nice stretch of sand on the waterfront. There are some nice restaurants and little shops around the beach. It’s a fun destination

My friend and I went when it was a bit cooler out however that doesn't stop any Rhode Islander from getting out there in the sun. Surfers were abound when I went and we sat on the famous Narragansett Wall to watch. It was a glorious way to start the season.
There's lots to do in Narragansett near the beach. There are many shops and restaurants and Narragansett has food vendors as well. People were lounging on the beach also.

If you’re looking for a nice day at the beach stay away from Narragansett Town Beach!
The town does everything in its power to keep outsiders OUT. Only residents are allowed to park in the lots which often have many open spaces as the actual residents don’t frequent the beach especially during the week. Most are not year round residents .
There is a charge to access public parking across the highway in a small lot that’s usually full and an entrance fee is also changed to get onto the beach itself. Now they’re proposing parking meters all along the wall abutting the ocean. This town caters only to the wealthy who own the properties on the beachfront and does everything possible to discourage public access.
RI has many other options for the public to enjoy a relaxing day at the beach. This is NOT one!

You don't want to go here! You will have TOO much Fun! You will enjoy this beach too much! You don't want to ride the great waves as you will have to compare them to other places you go in the future. You will be spoiled! I don't want to see you enjoying the great sand or the long walk along the water down to the river, or watching the osprey hunt with their young right in front of you. It will be too hard for you to walk the wall later and see the iconic Towers. I only have your best interest and don't want to see you have to cope with "too much fun anxiety syndrome"

We were sightseeing along the coast after Christmas and came upon a group of 20-30 surfers in wet suits trying to catch the big waves at Narragansett Beach in 45 degree water on a sunny but cool day with 45 degree air temp. We asked 3 different surfers and each one said that the wet suit kept them very warm. Some might call them crazy but in reality they are just hearty New Englanders. And we also saw someone swimming in the water with just shorts on, no wet suit. Now that's crazy. Very friendly atmosphere!

Never been to this part of Rhode Island before, but we found ourselves with a few hours to burn, so we headed to Narragansett. Quintessential New England coastal town. The homes and architecture have that look and feel. It's beautiful. We didn't walk the beach as there were quite a few people there out for a stroll even though it was March and very cold out. We went to the Fisherman's Pier and walked in the other direction from the beach, along the rocks. The tide was on it's way out, and there was lots of room to scramble along the shore in front of Multi-Million dollar mansions.

Everything here is laid back. The town is so clean, the people are friendly and the beaches and food are amazing.

Wide and shallow with great surf, N Beach is all you could want. But since I'm not a resident I can only go off season.

This beautiful beach is a classic example of New England beaches, and also a shade cleaner than some other regional beaches. Swimming and surfing are allowed (the waves were pretty big for this part of the country!), and there are lifeguards on duty. You're required to pay an entrance fee (residents can buy a summer pass), and parking also costs money; a season pass doesn't guarantee you a parking spot, although there appears to be plenty of parking. I was surprised at how expensive this place was, although the money seems to be put to good use: I appreciated how clean the bathrooms and beaches were. This place is super family friendly and can get very crowded on weekends and holidays. I wouldn't say that I'd come out here very often due to the expense and crowds, but it's worth a visit a couple of times a year.

Great location, clean beach! Located in Narragansett near many other beach options as well. Great family beach area!

Here in April so no swimming but there were surfers. A warm spring day and a great place to walk and sit and view the waves. My daughter searched for sea treasures along the clean beach. Most important there was good size parking lots.

This town beach is expensive, crowded, and has terrible parking for non-residents, BUT: the WAVES are awesome, the beach is clean, the sand is soft, and there is NO smoking. Perfect for families and non-smokers 😊

I was skeptical about paying $15 to park and $10/adult to get in... But it was worth it. Beautiful, clean beach with surprisingly warm water. The concession stand even has cold brew!

Great town with an awesome beach, restaurants and some shops. The Sea Wall runs a considerable distance with beautiful views of the shoreline and ocean. Breathtaking rock formations and a lot of history in this town. Stroll the Sea Wall and enjoy the views from different perspectives at different times of day to enjoy all that it has to offer. A photographers paradise.

we love our days at Narragansett Beach. Very family, clean. They have public restrooms, showers. The kids loved the surf class.

Narragansett town beach is a beautiful stretch of ocean located in the town of Naragansette RI, whether sun bathing, swimming, surfing or people watching this is one of the best areas to visit.

This is our 3rd consecutive year we have vistied Narragansett Beach during August. We keep discovering new restaurants. Try the Coast Guard House with its exceptional view. The beach is beautiful, clean with attentive lifeguards. Not far from some other great beach towns as well as Newport.

Swam all day long, every day we were there. Water was clean, good waves....very nice beach! $8.00 entrance fee (free entry after 5pm). Beach was open until 8pm (in August).

Driving past Narragansett Town Beach just after 5:00 on a Saturday, I stumbled upon the fact that there's FREE entrance after 5 p.m.! Given the number of other cars there, many of which were from CT or MA, not just RI, it's probably NOT a secret after all. It was a warm day, and the beach was more crowded than I expected. There was a steady breeze coming off the open water, which made it quite a refreshing location.
The tide was "low", but this is the kind of beach where that doesn't matter. One warning about the water: this is a popular surfing location, and the strong surf is why. I wouldn't let young children play in the water unattended. There may have even been a "no swimming" placard posted on the lifeguard chair, with red flags. Speaking of lifeguards, it was very impressive to see that they were still on-duty, even though the parking lot attendants were gone. The beach itself is very clean, no litter, no seaweed. The water looked clean as well. The beach pavilion appeared very nice - - not sure if it was still open after hours. If you enjoy long beach walks, this beach will give you plenty of space. On the walk you'll pass a private beach club and will end up at a point where the beach is backed by another body of water with a kayak launch. Now that I know about this secret, I plan on visiting again for a relaxing late-summer dinner on the water.

We were staying very close by in Narragansett for my sisters bachelorette weekend. We took a very nice walk on the beach on Friday evening and were very please with the beach. We visited the beach for the day on Sunday and we thought it was incredible. Very clean and very pretty. There is a fee of eight dollars a person but it's definitely worth it.

Stopped here on our way to NH for a relatives burial.
A really clean and beautiful beach overall.
Had some nice waves, and lifeguards were out during our visit.
They even had a mineral sanitizer by the entrance of the path to the beach, that'sreef friendly..
There were warning signs posted about a riptide.
Bathrooms are in the big building between the parking lots. They seemed to be pretty clean as well.
There were handicap spots available.

We had a family picnic and decided that a walk on the beach would be nice. Everyone enjoys Narragansett Beach. We were there on a warm day and it was after hours. It was beautiful and so relaxing for all of us. It is so pretty and a typical curved beach. The sand is really nice and soft. Walking to the Narrow River is always fun. Then, you turn around and have a wonderful view of the Towers. There are also little shops and restaurants that we like to visit close by. It is one of our family favorite things to do!

Great beach, especially nice for off-season walks with the dog. Good parking, free out of season. Great spot to watch the surfers when the waves are really rolling in.

For the locals or those with their nose in the air. Not a fan at all of this beach. It's great because of its location, but I don't like the people there....

This is not a good beach for the following reasons: (1) if you are not a resident, you cannot park at the lots on the beach side--you have to park across the street (which fills up fast) or at the Elementary School and take a trolley to the beach; (2) you have to pay $8 per person just to walk on the beach; (3) bathroom facilities are so limited that they are basically not available--there are 4 stalls for women, and the line is a mile long--so I will have an accident long before I reach the potty; (4) a good part of the beach is for surfing--which is great--but if you happen to park in front of it, you cannot go into the water there because swimming is not permitted in that area; (5) forget getting food at the stand on the beach--there is a day wait for food; (6) since the waves are small, there is not much of a breeze so the beach is very hot; and (7) there are no showers--so you cannot wash off before the long ride home in heavy traffic. While everyone who works there is very nice, the visitors are not happy. I mean, if you have to pay to park and pay to walk on the beach, please at least give me a bathroom. There is no chance I will ever waste my time going to this beach!

A great place to be. The beaches are
clean, pet friendly. There is so much to do between trails and walking tours. I did not
want to leave.

Just stopped by the beach. It was around sunset so it was very pretty. Narragansett is a beautiful place, this was our first time to Rhode Island. I loved it here, will definitely go back.

Narragansett Town Beach is just that-a town beach.Residents pay a fee for parking and for entrance passes.Parking in South, North and Cabana lots is limited to residents. The Cabana lots is limited to Cabana lessors.
The West lot (across from the beach) is available to non-residents at $10 weekdays and $15 weekends.)
There is a $12 per person entrance fee.
If you are renting a house ask the owner to provide beach entrance passes.
Parking on many streets is limited to 2 hrs.or by resident permit only. Enforcement has been stepped due to complaints by residents.
A much less expensive alternative is either the State beach at Scarborough or at Sand Hill Cove which is ideal for small children.

Went to the beach with my family the past two days and can't say enough about how impressed we were with it. Yes, the water was a bit cold considering it is June, hit that is not the beach's fault. The sand is very nice (soft on the feet and not all stones) and the beach is very clean. We were there before the busy season began so it wasn't that crowded, but I can see why so many people visit during the summer to spend time at this beach.

I almost hesitate to tell people about it...I'd love to keep it a secret! It is a great beach if you are tired of the loud music and football games at other beaches. Clean, great waves, good snack shack, beautiful location! Worth the trip!

We stayed at a nearby hotel and we could walk to the beach. We thought that $8 per person to access the beach was a bit much.

A great place to eat our picnic lunch mid day. While it was too cold to swim, it was fun watching the surfers catching the waves.

Very nice beach and place to go. Wonderful all over! If you are in the area, it is a beautiful place to go walk!!!!!

Many small beaches along the way but Narragansett is nice, short compared to some in say, FL, but it was the 4th of July so crowded . You can park along the street, if you are lucky or back a couple streets.

This is a beautiful beach. It gets very crowded in the summer, even into the evenings. It costs $10 to park and $10 to enter, unless you have a season pass. It's free after 5. The lifeguard goes off duty at 7. There are bathrooms and a concession stand.

This was once a beautiful beach in a very charming little seaside town. It looked like a throwback to the Victorian era. The town folk torn down the the stores and put up condos. It is so sad to remember what was and see what is now.

Wheelchair accessible bathouse up ramps. They had a beach wheelchair available to get out on the sand. Nice beach with snack bar.

This used to be a nice town beach but it is way too crowded now. It is smaller than most of the state beaches so it gets crowded very early. The parking is only for resident that pay for passes. The lot is full by 10 a.m. Be prepared to walk a mile if you give street parking a try. There are no parking signs every where and they will ticket you!!
It cost $10 per person (young and old) to get onto the beach.
Go to Scarborough state beach. The lot never fills up. It is a very big beach so you can get away from the crowds. There is an area where you can park on the grass. People bring there campers and spend the day. And they charge by the car load not by the head.

This was a nice beach but very rocky so not one to plan on running around barefoot. I’d suggest going to the beach on Block Island if you want to do a nice sandy beach walk or just to hang out and sunbathe. This seemed to be more a beach for kayaking and that type of thing.

It's been six years since I rated this beach (still got sand and too-cold ocean water), but they have changed policies since I last rated it.
First, about three years ago, they started to try to clamp down on smoking on the beach, but it was sort of voluntary, sort of enforced but only by volunteers who may come by every hour or so. Since then, the signs are less prominent so I expect the smoking problem to return to its old levels at some point.
They have also added sunscreen stations for the past two years, where you can glob on some of the better sunscreen (it's sponsored by a local dermatologist). That's a good thing.
The biggest change, though, is that non-residents can no longer park at the beach. And day-passes for non-residents (if they can find a way to get to the beach) have gone up to $10 per day. Locals who rent out their homes in the summer can buy transferable beach passes for $200 each to include as a perk with the rental, so if you rent in walking distance, you can probably avoid the $70/person fees if you go to the beach every day.
The purpose of this, I believe, was to generate the same (or more) revenue without having the overcrowded parking lots and beach. Well, they certainly cut down on the population on the beach. It was blessedly sparse every day and the parking lot was never more than half full (north lot)--we had locals with parking permits.
So, now it's still a beach, just not as overcrowded. I still find it strange to charge to enter a public beach, but that's the way they do it in Narragansett. And at least now it's not very crowded. Good job, town council!

It is a nice beach. There is good life guard coverage, which is expected since it is $8 a person to get on. Plenty of showers, space to change and a food shack. Would have given four stars but the parking lots were empty and they closed the lots to tourists as I was driving up because of "staffing issues", which still makes no sense to me since people were working both lots, and made me park in a lot further away and had to drag my small children across a busy highway to get to beach. The staffing issue is that the managers who closed the lots to tourists need to get a clue.

We take a ride to Narragansett every New Year's Day. This year was warm and sunny. High surf, plenty of surfers. Lots of people walking and enjoying the vew.

Just went to this place for the first time last week. Such a wonderful beach along Narragansett Bay! We had a stunning February weather day to visit, unusual, I know.... Superb, scenic beach!! Beautiful spot to walk/beachcomb. We'll be back in the summer! Anytime, if the weather's agreeable, indulge. You won't regret it!

Good beach and the waters in beach are so clear which keeps us to spend more time in the beach water.. Worth a visit if going to RI

We visit yearly from Massachusetts and stay locally for the week. Fantastic beach, excellent amenities. People running the food area are completely clueless, my only complaint. Line is slower than slow.

Great beach but I strongly advise you to arrive early during the peak season. It gets crowded very quickly. Parking is difficult. Beach itself is clean and maintained. You can also walk around the beach and sit on the sea wall. Plenty of food in the area as well.

After packing up our bikes at the Kingston Train Station we headed to Narragansett Beach. We found a great parking space right along the curve of the beach. Can't believe you don't have to pay. We walked to the beach area and there were quite a few people on the beach and in the water. My wife enjoyed putting her feet in the ocean. She said it was very comfortable. NH water is to cold to do that. There were many folks swimming and surfing in the water. They were all having a good time. We stayed a couple of hours and then went to the Ocean House for Lunch.

Narragansett is a run of the mill New England beach, meaning it's far more beautiful than most on the east coast. It's large and kid friendly, with mild waves. There are quite a few restaurants in walking distance to the main entrance and also a snack bar and public facilities. You do have to pay to park, and be warned - you cannot get an Uber out of this city to save your life. There is a bus route though, but it's not really the most direct, so it can be a bit of a pain if you are trying to hop over from Boston or Newport.

Loved this beach, great parking, clean sand and fabulous views of the Pier and coast. Well worth a visit.

We were with in walking distance of the beach so we didn't have to pay $28 fee at Wheeler. The beach is very big and can accommodate lots of people. Even if the parking lot is full there is always room on the beach. Bay side water was fine for our 3 1/2 year old grandson who had s great time.

1st time. Water is beautiful, beach is clean. Very family oriented. A shame you have to buy $8 a head.

We love going to Narragansett Town Beach, but we definitely plan our trips carefully to optimize our time. Things to remember:
• Cash only to enter;
• it gets very crowded so arrive early if crowds bother you;
• the sand can get VERY hot, so wear beach shoes (flip flops barely help);
• avoid 4th of July if you don't like big crowds;
• the quality of the food in my two experiences varied greatly, so keep your expectations in check.

Lots of parking, great views, good people watching of surfers, nice long walking space. Everything was closed for the season but it looked like they would have good facilities.

Very clean beach! Water is cool when you first go in, but you adjust quickly. There are waves and it makes for a good time! Keep in mind there is a car parking fee as well as an entry fee for each person. Still was worth it!

This is no doubt the best beach in RI. Narragansett Town Beach is in a beautiful spot ...........The Pier! There is always so much going on there. We recently viewed the traditional prelude to the Quonset Air Show there. The beach is always wonderful no matter what....in good weather and fowl. Some folks travel here to see the powerful waves after a storm. This is a great area for people who want to learn how to surf. And lessons are available. They also have Yoga on the beach! It sure is fun going down there and looking at that lovely crescent shaped beach. While sitting on the beach, you can see the historical Icon, The Towers.
We brought sandwiches and they seemed so much more delicious sitting there in our comfy chairs watching the rolling waves coming in.
I noticed that the restrooms were very clean and have all been redone. There have definitely been some positive improvements added to the beach recently.
This is not a state beach. This is a town beach so there is a charge to enter. Season passes can be purchased. And there is a parking fee. But, if you get there early enough, there is plenty of parking along the sea wall and there is no fee involved in parking there.
On Friday nights they have bands playing by the Gazebo. They also have movies on the beach. They have food trucks that offer a variety of different foods. Of course, there are also some really good restaurants from casual to fine dining. And there are some charming gift shops close by too. If you enjoy walking, there is nothing better than taking a stroll on this beach. I can't say enough about it!

one of best town beaches in Rhode Island. Surf is great so surfers are more than welcome Parking is limited since town residences get priority on wekends

Visiting Narragansett Town Beach is a beautiful way to spend the day. The beach is clean, there are lifeguards, bathrooms, concession stand and showers. A good mix of people …families, young people and older people. Everyone was very respectful. The only downside is that the town charges $10 to park and $8 to walk on the beach. That's a little ridiculous if you ask me. However, if you are there early enough to you may be able to snatch a parking spot in the street at no charge.

We had this place on our must visit list in Rhode Island. This is a lovely beach. However, keep in mind couple of things. If you are from out of town, you have to park at a different lot which cost $15 CASH. On top, you have to pay $8 per person for beach access. Not used to this type of system but didn't mind it too much since the walk wasn't terrible from parking lot to beach.
It's a rather small beach but nice. The weather was perfect so we enjoyed our time at this beach. Overall rating is 7.5/10.

Town beach is so nice. I really enjoyed hanging out, talking people, walking along beach, eating a snack. Fun time. Costs money to get on beach though.

Nice stay at a clean Inn. Ambiance ++! Friendliness A++ Décor A++ The room was very big. Plenty of seating in the living room with beautiful furniture and electric fire place. They had heat which you can control for your liking. The king size bed was a treat to sleep in. Very clean since my husband & i are fanatics about cleanliness. The huge whirlpool worked great. The complimentary soaps & shampoos were a nice touch. Seely made a chocolate raspberry from scratch. Delicious! We received 2 mugs as a keepsake. Breakfast was delicious. Seely shared stories about the house & its past owners. Very nice atmosphere. We will definitely stay there again. Maureen & Bob

Beautiful beach. Not too crowded. Out of towers pay for parking across the street. And you also pay a per person beach admission fee. My only warning about this beach... the seagulls! They were very aggressive and apparently not unusual. We had a seagull come onto our towel area and steal food from our plates and try to attack us. It also pecked my head while sunbathing! A woman nearby walked over to commiserate. She explained that it had taken a cracker out of her mouth and bit her hand when she tried to shoo it away. She had a huge bandage. So beware the seagulls!

Clean, beautiful beach. Expensive to get on as it’s a private town beach. But free after 5pm. No life guards after 5pm.

Very amazing beach but very crowded. There is very little parking and there is a charge for that separate from beach entrance. I have been coming to this beach my whole life and have loved it every year. If you are visiting the beach or Rhode Island for the day I would recommend Scarborough Beach, down the road.

Me and my wife were staying in a hotel at a walking distance from the beach so we walked. I was surprised to be charged $8 per person when they charge $10 for a car. Nonsense. The beach was nice. It has a section for swimmers and another one for surfers. They have amenities, restrooms, and showers.

Very good public beach......long expanse of soft golden sand kept very clean......good area for surfers and separate for swimmers with plenty of guards on duty
Car parking is $12 in public car-park.....(looked like the streets in town were time limited parking)
Beach entry is $8 for adults and over 12s (I think) so we paid $24 plus parking for the day
there are clean - well maintained toilets with outdoor cold water showers to freshen up / get sand off after beach
There is a food area....bit pricey but what you would expect (plus its only a short walk to shops where there is a much greater selection
Great place for a beach day!

The beach is very clean and the bathhouse is close by and kept very clean. They offer food and have outdoor showers, overall it's a really nice beach that is easy to get into and out of.

The beach is beautiful as our the homes that line it. A little shopping area a few blocks up with typical tourist merchandise. People everywhere friendly and pleasant. They obviously love their town.

We love to visit Newport but I was dreading the red tide. So happy I found this just 20 minute drive away. Very minimal seaweed. Yes, you have to pay the fees and park across the street but all that was worth it! Guests may park at the south pavilion. It was full but not overcrowded for a Thursday. Delicious snack bar with gourmet options, a Del's lemonade stand, clean bathrooms and plenty of rinsing stations. Come equipped with boogie boards, umbrellas, sand toys as there isn't a store here. Wonderful waves that were perfect for my 8+10 year olds to boogie board. Soft sand. Lifeguards. Gorgeous.

It’s nice, clean beach with free parking facility. It has a long beach strip. Even in November weather is nice here. At least one should visit this place in life.

Looking at the other reviews, it seems that the beauty of this beach can depend on when you go there. We visited in April later in the day on a weekday. It was in the upper 40s and chilly and not crowded at all. We enjoyed a peaceful walk along the beach and sidewalk, stopped and took pictures by the towers and took in a pretty sunset. I liked the jutting rocks and the expansive views. Very nice pre-sunset walk.

If you are able go to the Narragansett Town Beach. It is a must that in the summer you arrive early or you will be shut out. The sand is very nice and and the water has a nice gradual

This is the most beautiful beach in the state of RI. The sand, the setting, the facilities and the views are all excellent. It is that wonderful crescent shape. And taking a walk along the beach down to the Narrow River Inlet is always a pleasant experience. Of course, viewing the Towers is always a journey back in time. The Pier has changed a great deal over the past century, but the Towers have endured.
There are a few other beaches in Narragansett, but, given the choice, Narragansett Beach is tops!!

Excellent views and a great vibe around town!
We loved the pier shops and the friendly workers with all the little tips on where and what to see!

Beautiful beach, soft sand, clear waters. Parking was $10 plus $8 per person into beach. A little pricey but wonderful day.

It was very chilly during our visit but we enjoyed a quick walk. There were a lot of clam shells and rocks. There were some other families sitting on the beach and walking.

The beach scene at Narragansett is always good. The Sands are clean, the water is clean. Now at this time of year the ocean is still a little bit chilly but getting warmer each day. Plenty of restaurants to get a bite to eat, before or after you hit the water. Also quite a few hotels and motels. You can and spend the day or several weeks in Narragansett. It's always been considered a clean and safe Beach on the East Coast.

clean and family friendly, make sure to bring umbrella to keep the sun off, there is no shade
food is very expensive

Walked along the wall to dinner at the Coastguard house and it was busy. Lots of people even at 5pm. The water is very clean looking and have gone to this beach for years having grown up in the area. If you want a quiet beach this one should be avoided but if you love the action, people watching and right in the middle of everything go here and make sure your in top shape.

Great beach and it's beautiful scenery. Nothing like New England weather and the water. It's amazing. So amazing you just go there although it's a town beach so prices can be expensive and parking too.

Recently I took my family to Narragansett RI for a day at the beach. Boy was that a mistake! After a 2 hour ride, we found huge parking lots by the beach which we couldn't use because they were reserved to town residents only. Giant empty spaces surrounded by fences saying 'you are not welcome here'. We spent 30 minutes driving around trying to park, finally I found a spot which was not marked 'no parking' in any way shape or form, walked 2 miles to the beach from our parking spot, only to find they were charging $8 per person to get into the beach and we had left our cash in the car. After trudging back 2 miles in the sun with my disappointed children, I found a parking ticket on my car (in the spot that had no indication that parking was not allowed). We decided to drive down the coast and look for another beach, and found one but were put off by the reek of sewage at the beach. All in all a bad day in a very unwelcoming place. They seem to not like tourism, maybe it is a 'necessary evil'.
I will not be going back to Narragansett RI.

This is by far the best beach around! Yes the cost of admission is higher than other beaches in the area but it's worth it. Come early because this beach gets packed (for good reason)!!

Great to park and stroll the beach and enjoy the waves. Recommend a visit to the coastguard house for good drinks and seafood.

The kids loved this beach because of the waves. Things to know before you go: parking for "out of towners" is across the street and costs $10. PLUS, there is an admission fee to get in: $8 per person. Kids under 11 are free. Amenities are very good: food, bathrooms, showers. Beach can be very crowded. Surfing allowed at one end. There is an area of the beach that is reserved for surfers only to keep the swimmers safely away from their boards. There is a lot of seaweed depending on the time of year, but it's manageable.

this beach has everything you would want and people come here from all over the world.swim, surf, just relax, large multi facit building with everything you need for your beach day.changing,bathrooms,food.showers,etc.etc.
parking at the beach and across the road.pay to park, pay to go into the beach.beach is huge and well taken care of.one of the earliest beach resort areas in the country.known all over the world. a good choice to visit a Rhode Island beach.see all kinds of people, all having a good time.small waves.but enough for the surfers to have a great time as well.down at the far end of the beach.

Really nice beach to spend a day at. The Rhode Island beaches are some of the best, Great places to eat near by as well.

This is one of the most beautiful beaches in RI but...very expensive and the townies all have an attitude.
The beach was nicer years ago when not so crowded. Can't find a spot on the weekends. Not great parking either. We have many state beaches that are just as nice!

We were wrapping up a few days in Newport and after years of wanting to check out Narragansett Town Beach we made a special trip down after lunch. Nothing says go away like having the guest parking across the street (town residents only on the beach side of the street (-- fyi today plenty of open spaces in paved lot) and then charging $10 to park as far away as possible in dusty gravel lot and $10 per person to get on beach. (That's $50 for a family of 4 at 2PM on a Thursday afternoon...) Beach is nice enough but not nicer than Newport beaches which charge $10 or $15 to park in a nice paved lot (first come first served) -- no per person charge! I'm NEVER returning as I felt unwelcome and will act accordingly.

Overall a pleasant experience at the Town beach, but far from the idyllic beach experience.
Spent a weekend with friends in the Narragansett area and went to the town beach for a few hours.
The waterways are fabulous having had the opportunity to experience them from a pleasure craft previously.
The weekend weather was hot and the area was crowded. Street parking was unavailable and a nearby lot cost $15. There's a moderate admission charge.
As a boater, I've had the opportunity to visit many of the region's beaches from the municipal beaches of NYC, to the Hamptons, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket in addition to many others far away.
Of note, there was a great sense of safety and good management. There were no 'wiseguys' and visitors seemed very respectful and orderly.
The beach was very clean but very crowded. We arrived midday and there was very little space between blankets. As a former Bronxite with street smarts, I had little concern about leaving our belongings unattended while in the water.
There are signs around that warn swimmers to limit how far out you can go. I forget the distance but it seemed somewhat restrictive.
I imagine midweek, the experience would have been more vacation-like. For me, it was more like a refined version of a crowded day at Orchard Beach in the Bronx or Coney Island in Brooklyn, minus the amusement rides.

Visited Narragansett Beach on an August Thursday. The beach is right on a street -- so it doesn't have that quiet setting. We were very lucky and found street parking which was a HOME RUN. If you wait long enough, you will definitely be able to find a parking spot.
We thoroughly enjoyed this beach. It was very pretty, the beach was clean, the food was very good, and we had a beautiful day. Would highly recommend this as an activity if you are near Narragansett Beach.

Narragansett Beach is a great place to hang out, people watch, surf, sun bathe, run, jog, walk and generally have a great time!

Love this beach. Clean, big enough. can sit on benches and not sand if you want or beach. walking distance to great restaurant

Parking was $10 and it is also $10 pp to get onto the beach. I believe if you get there before 8:00, you can get in for free.
Nice beach, very clean and lots of life guards who were very attentive.

On a warm Fall morning, great for a walk through the sand, watch surfers or read a book and soak up the beauty

I visited with my family in August. It is free after 5 pm I believe. The beach is really clean and lovely. US beaches(minus Florida) do not impress me much, but this one sure did. We all really had a great time. I can't wait to go back.

I love Narragansett Beach in Rhode Island. The waves are nice, but not too large where you can't go in and enjoy them. The land is situated perfectly that way. I enjoy sitting on the beach and watching the surf boarders. The water is beautiful and the sand is clean. There is a bath house and concession stand also. The price to park is $10 per car, but there is a fee per person of $10 each which I felt was pricey. But it is a beautiful beach.

Short visit for lunch with grandkids , but hope to return. Beautiful beach and surroundings. We loved the coast Guard House Restaurant with amazing view of the ocean right outside our window.

Very clean and well maintained beach. Every age group was there; from seniors walking the beach to kids playing in the VERY COLD water it was fun to watch everyone enjoy the sunshine.

You have to pay $10 to enter this beach... there are a ton of people using surfboards so you have to be careful because it's very crowded... and this beach was the most crowded Little Beach I've ever been at.... we waited until 5 in the afternoon when it was free to go to the beach and we frolicked in the waves and water till sunset without any dangers from too many surfboards....
Not the greatest beach in the world.
Craig P.

Had a very nice visit here including Block Island. Great food, views and people. I crave the clam cakes and chowder even now!

We're from Boston and usually travel to Cape Ann on our beach days, but the water is so darned cold there. Cape Cod is a traffic nightmare. Narragansett is only 1-1/2 hours south of Boston; the water is usually a good 10 degrees warmer than Cape Ann. Beach is clean, water is clean, snack bar offers a great selection of food.

We visited in August 2020, on a Thursday morning.
Very chill atmosphere at this beautiful stretch of Rhode Island coastline. The crowds were very limited and parking was easy!
The beach itself is lovely—a long stretch with a nice vista. In addition to the beach, there is a long, paved walk along the oceanfront, which we enjoyed; it featured some cool rock sculptures.
The little town surrounding the beach is chill, too. It has some beautiful homes, a coffee shop, a deli, an ice cream store, etc.
A relaxing visit!

This beach is very relaxing and not crowded! You can walk down the beach to a beautiful area that winds around to a very calm lake feeling swim. Very family friendly!

nice clean beach not too crowded.
good support facilities. the water in June was far colder than we expected but still good for cooling off.

Just not during the summer! But, we take advantage of the summer evenings to enjoy it when the tourists go home for the day after the lifeguards sign off. Otherwise, it's ours anytime we want it during the other 9 months of the year. Beautiful!

This is the town beach for Narragansett. The town was three other wonderful beaches but they are all state owned for which you pay a parking fee for state residents and a higher fee for out of state residents. The town beach also has a fee to park as well as a fee for each person to enter the beach. The beach is beautiful. It is wide and long with nice soft off white sand. There are two service areas with restrooms, food service and showers. There are cabanas for resident members.

I am, by no means a "beach snob" I frequent the usual New England beaches on the cape and South Shore of Mass. This beach was, well, here are some facts.
1. It's extremely overcrowded! People are stacked on top of each other!
2. It's expensive! Costs money to park, then it costs money to get in!
3. INVASIVE! They search your coolers on the way in, they don't allow any alcohol at all. They do not allow smoking of any type.
4. They have "security" that walks around and can randomly search your stuff at any moment if they want, will dig around your bags!
5. Loud speakers - are placed every 50 feet or so. They make announcements once every 10 minutes reminding everyone there's no alcohol or smoking, trying to get people to buy lifeguard t-shirts and more.
It feels like a public pool, between the overcrowding, loud screaming kids, the wristband i was forced to wear at all times, the invasion of my personal stuff (one person even opened my sunscreen bottle to smell it!) and the continous loud speaker announcements that made me want to scream.
Isn't a beach day supposed to be fun and relaxing? I would NEVER go here again!

It's a beautiful beach but not welcoming non-resident.
I succeed to find street parking but it was hard to walk with a toddler and many water paly stuff. And street parking is only for 2 hours.
I stayed little bit longer and got $ 50 ticket.
And there were too many people.
Long line for restroom as well.
We also paid $24 for two adults.
I think 2nd or 3rrd beach near by Newport was better for me.
I will visit again after the summer season is over.

We had a peaceful and relaxing weekday on vacation at the Town Beach. That evening they did a Pops concert (we didn’t stay and heard parking was difficult but the setting would have been great. We paid $10 to park and $10 each admittance to the beach.

Narragansett Beach in Narragansett RI is an idyllic stretch of sand, about 2 miles long. Walk by the ocean water and rejuvenate your body and your soul.

We enjoy coming to Narragansett Beach in the evenings, to walk along the wall. The views are beautiful, and the people watching is interesting! Some creative souls enjoy building "sculptures" out of the rocks along the beach, which is fun to see. This is a good evening walk after eating a big dinner!

Never was on this beach and was recommended by locals. It was a nice beach with plenty of space. The beach was very clean with ample parking.

This is a fine beach, but that can be said of many beaches along the Rhode Island coast. This one stands out as very clean and well managed. The rules are clear, the facilities (bathrooms, deck, etc.) are exceptionally clean. Very few rocks, mostly soft sand. The seas were a bit rough when we were there, which of course the kids really love. At times the beach was quite crowded, but there was no extraneous noise (boom boxes?) and everyone was polite and considerate of those around them. We thoroughly enjoyed the 3 days we spent on Narragansett Beach.

We stayed a week in Narragansett to vacation with extended family. It rained several days, and the high one day was 65 degrees (in mid July!), so we only went twice to the beach in a week. Obviously it isn't grand cayman or Maui, with soft sand and clear warm water, but...
We liked it. The sand makes good castles. The surf is enough for boogie boarding. The bathrooms are exceptionally nice for a beach. The concession stand had enjoyable food (I enjoyed the onion rings). People were polite. Getting in (especially parking) is a pain for non-locals, but it's their beach. It probably helped keep the crowds down too.
Overall, it was one of the best beachs ive been to in New England and we enjoyed our time there.

The beach is an expansive beautiful beach with some parking on the lot but when in full season parking can be limited due to the high influx of tourists. During the off-season still an attractive place to go since there is a lot to do in walking distance. A beautiful sight to take in.

A broken foot has limited my beachy activities this summer, but we were able to walk along the Narragansett Beach promenade and enjoy the ocean waves and the weather, without aggravating the broken foot at all. The seawall runs right alongside the water, and the tide was high, splashing us once with a rogue wave. It's a long walk, fine for a scooter or wheelchair, well-paved, but full of kids, strollers and some dog walkers.

Great BEACH, with awesome views. Have to pay for parking and admission onto the beach. Well worth it. You can either go by the surfers or be close to the concession stand. You could also just hang out by the seawall.

This beach is beautiful, but it is the Town Beach with parking for Town residents. Nonresident have to park in lot across the street and pay or find a spot on the street. There is also a daily admission charge. Makes for an expensive day at the beach

loved this town. Absolutely Beautiful. Great restaurants beautiful beaches and pier. I would visit this place regularly

Narragansett town beach. I routinely visit the area and the beach. The beach is never crowded, very clean, never loud or invasive music just the peaceful ocean with great people all enjoying the splendor. The facilities are clean and the food on and around the beach is great ! One of my most favorite places on earth, any time, any season!

I have been coming to Narragansett Town beach for over 35yrs now. The area hasn't changed. The staff keep up with the beach and its very clean with nice facilities.
They also have a very decent snack bar for a beach. One more day of vacation.
If you arrive before 8am, you can get on the beach for free and you can park along the wall for free with a short walk to the beach.
RI has some of the nicest beaches.

The kids loved riding the waves. It was very clean and even though it was a little crowded, that's to be expected on a hot summer's day, we still had enough space. We did pay $10 to park and there was a charge of $8 for everyone over 11 but felt it was worth the price for the life guards and cleanliness.

My grandmother lives here so every summer we come down and spend 1 to 2 weeks at the beach. This beach has HUGE waves and great for surfing/boogie boarding. Also at the end of the beach is a current which you can bring a raft and float on it till the end. This beach has "dels" which is well known in Rhode Island and is a great summer/beach snack!!

Just beyond a seawall lies the Narragansett Beach. Lots of room to spread out, since it goes a long way. It can get really crowded on weekends and even the admission fee doesn't keep it from being popular.

I was pleasantly surprised by how nice this beach was right in the middle of town. Nice high waves to jump in, no cross current, no jellyfish, and little seaweed. Sand, shells and rocks were underfoot, depending on where were in the surf. People grouse that you have to pay, but this money is used to keep the beach clean, toilets and showers functional, and the trash removed. Thankfully it is also a guarded beach, as I watched a young man carried out of the water on his surfboard. A beach patrol with a buggy showed up and he was taken away by ambulance. I am happy to pay for these services.

This is one of the best beaches in New England, with soft sand and slightly warmer water than one finds on the Cape, for example. There is ample parking, and good facilities (food, toilets, etc). Unfortunately, there is not only a $10 charge per car, but also an entry fee of $10 per person.

What an excellent beach and to be honest I think it's a great value. I see many people on here say its too expensive, but in this case you get what you pay for. It's a beautiful, clean beach with great amenities.
How many beach days do you get per year? It's worth spending a few extra bucks to get that quality.
With that being said, if you cannot afford to come here there is great beach right down the road. Scarborough is beautiful as well, although the quality of the crowd is a bit less desirable.

Beautiful beach. Great for walking.
Beautiful March New England Day!
Parking lot empty as early in the season.

After 2 days at Scarborough beach this was a welcome choice...Yes its expensive when you pay 10 dollars to park as a non-resident and 12 dollars to get on the beach. The sand was clean and there was no sea debris...we were forced out of the water for close to 2 hours while they dealt with a thresher shark sighting about 1/2 mile away...handled very efficiently and we were kept updated...turned out the shark was injured and they corralled it in....they said they check bags but they did not which would have been an issue as we had some hard seltzer. The beach was crowded for a week day and the line to pay probably had 40 people waiting...they couldn't stuff the money in the cash register quick enough. I get the impression they are trying to keep the beach available for residents by making it difficult for out of towners.

We stopped at the beach this past Saturday to take a walk. It was still very windy and the surf was rough so we didn't go for a swim but enjoyed watching all the surfers.
Since we visited after Maria, we noticed that there wasn't much room to sit on the beach. I also noticed that the powdery sand that Narragansett is known for is now littered with rocks and not so powdery at the moment. This regularly happens after a storm and it goes back to normal by the next summer. It's still a lovely place to visit for a walk or a swim.

Summertime fun, sun, swimming, surfing or just people watching. Long fall, winter, and spring walks with your puppies, hubby or boyfriend, an absolutely beautiful beach!

Had to park far from beach to wait and take a trolley. That was $10 and needed to drag everything on and then off again. Finally arrived back at beach to have to pay $8 per person to get into the beach. Was nice with good waves but small. With so many other beaches in Rhode Island probably won't return. Waited in a crowd to fight to get back to car on trolley also....

Narraganset Town Beach is a very well run beach area. It has restrooms and concessions. It gets really crowded and parking fills up before 9:30 AM on summer weekends so arrive early. Admission per person is $8 which I thought was high for a family of five on top of the parking fee which made it an expensive beach day.

Beautiful beach, nice walks, lot to see ,excellent restaurants ,God food always good entertainment specially weekends.

The Narragansett Beach is great. There are many great seafood restaurants in Narragansett. The ferry leaves to go spend the day on Block Island. There are also many shops in nearby Wakefield, R.I.

Wonderful place to create memories of summers at the beach! Linger long and just savor the experience!

This beach has many more people, children and dogs than the places I normally visit but it was a wonderful beach. Very relaxing, clean and well kept!

We've been going to this beach for more than 30 years, sitting with the same group of friends. Yes, we have a locker to store our chairs and yes we are residents so we have parking passes. Not easy if you are not a resident or a locker person. Nice bathrooms, a food stand that is spotty and not especially good. Reasonable waves. Well maintained.

the good: never seen surfing activity at beach on East Coast like this one. Wave action is for real. Swimming at this beach was a blast.
the bad: Parking is challenge. I knew to get there early for free spot but didnt. I'd shoot to arrive before 10 am. I ended up parking in town about 15 min away after dropping off the fam. I carefully picked a spot where was allowed. They do charge $12 per person to get on the beach. The day we were there it was very crowded.
if you want to experience a beach with serious waves, check it out.

Wonderful Rhode Island beach where surfers of all expertise challenge their skills. Beach is clean and family friendly.

very overcrowded. Nar Bar or live music. You should just jump on the BI Ferry and go to Ballards because its cleaner and much more fun

This beach was easy to find and it had free parking. This was the first beach we stopped at and it was great. It's a great place to relax.

Yes it’s a little frustrating to pay $30 for a family of 4 to just get on the beach but the convenience is worth it. The access to food, bathrooms and showers to rinse off when you’re done make it worth the money. My young children have a blast every time we go there

This was my first visit to Narragansett Rhode Island and I was pleasantly surprised. The sea walled coastline was very busy with visitors, activity and Surfers all at once. We walked along a Central Square Park on the oceanfront and there were literally hundreds of people walking, biking, sea watching on this late fall day. A very relaxing way to spend a mid-afternoon with friends or family. Plenty of street parking available during this late-season. I would recommend visiting one of the seaside restaurants for lunch during your visit.

Very kid friendly beach with shallow water and waves usually reasonably mild. Clean bathrooms and a snack bar with burgers, hot dogs etc.

Ample parking and right on Ocean Road, this is a conveniently located and lovely beach. I went on a blustery day after Labor Day, so paid no fees at all. It's right downtown so there's restaurants and shops nearby. Definitely not a secluded beach feel, but that's why it's the Town Beach after all! Enjoy!

Great beach! Fine sand, clean and well organized. Parking can be though and roads (Route 1, 4, etc) can be bad at times.

We were just looking to relax in the sand for a couple of hours. Admission is $8.00 per person, which is ok if you are only a couple but would be expensive if you have a family. There was lots of seaweed and we only dunked our feet in because the water was very cold. Parking can be an issue, also. The scenery is beautiful and it wasn't crowded. I would go back.

Definitely worth the entrance fee. Parking is an issue so get their early as they have consolidated all non-Narragansett residents to the small parking area across the street.

This beach is clean, with facilities and a small snack bar and beautiful sand. Great place to spend the day!

Good place to walk across the street from hotels with restaurants all within walking distance. They all complain that you pay $15 parking and $15 apiece to get on the beach. It is Narragansett, get over it, you can walk to movie theaters, lots of restaurants and watch surfers!

So we just got got back from our trip. We spend 2 days on Narragansett town beach. I was worried about parking, you can't park in the beach parking lots this year (residents only) but both days I found free street parking pretty easily. It's a 2 hr slot, but this ends at 4. We got there at 2 on one day and stayed until 5 and another day got there at 3. I think going later may help find parking. It was a short walk to the beach from the parking. On the beach my son decided he wanted to rent a boogie board and there was a tent in the parking lot where you can rent surf or boogie boards so we did that. The next day he got a surf lesson, it was 60 for an hr. He loved it. When I called they said they were full. But when we arrived at the beach they said come back in an hour to see us and he can have a lesson. A short drive down from this beach is Monahan's Clam Shack. Order online and pick up or go and sit outside. Great food.

We come here every year since we discovered this beach years ago. We loved it so much that my daughter was married here. Very clean and well cared for. It is to the eastern side of Narragansett away from the ferry and restaurant scene. Bathrooms and shower/locker rooms are clean. Always a constant breeze even in the heat of summer. Try it , you will enjoy it.

The Coast Guard restaurant and Narragansett Rhode Island offers beautiful scenic views of the Narragansett Bay and excellent food and Service. Must when you’re visiting Rhode Island for brunch lunch or even dinner. You have a motorcycle no problem , the restaurant offers convenient parking on the street if the lot is full🇺🇸

The beach is gorgeous but also too popular on summer weekends. You can walk on for $8 per person or pay extra $15? if you're lucky enough to get parking across the busy traffic avenue. Lots closest to beach are reserved for local stickers.
One side of beach is for surfers & the other for swimmers. The swimming side was so crowded with children, all with boogie boards, that there was a better than average chance of getting banged into. I've honestly never been to an ocean beach so packed with children.
There's nice surf and it's gorgeous & nearby to bars, restaurants, Dunkin Donuts, but would only want to go again when less crowded. Also, bring a beach wagon to haul your stuff because you'll likely have to walk quite a bit.
Warning - the drop off/pickup area is too small & there's no waiting, so police were ticketing people who stopped to drop off.

The only place we've ever seen a gorgeous sunset to our right then turned left and watched a full moon rise. Amazing!
Nice walking beach with facilities at one end and boat activity, restaurants and some shopping (beach stuff) at the other. A great day visit.

Had dinner at the Dunes Club with colleagues. The beach was absolutely beautiful. Would be coming back and spend more time to appreciate and spend more time.

Love coming here and just overlooking the ocean. It’s beautiful on a clear night. Driving under the towers is always a must. Nice place for a walk.

Although it was overcast and cool outside the water was refreshing. I just love the waves. The people are nice.

One of our favorite places in the world.
The only problem is that it gets really crowded.
Great places to eat around.

Great beach and fun to watch the surfers. Easy parking. Get there early in the summer.....gets crowded

This beach is nice and convent because it is close to my house but it has too much seaweed and is sometimes dirty

Beautiful beach. Great for walking along the overview , and good places to eat. Quiet for Spring Break and not too cold

Beautiful beach, nice clean pavilion and soft white sand that feels like it's been sifted so only the most soft sand is left. Only complaint is how pricey it is. It's a town beach so state beach pass doesn't work. Prepare to pay to park and then pay, yes pay, per person to walk in the beach at a tune of $8 per person.... Wait until 5 pm and you can get on for free, but they are sticklers on that up until the exact time.

The beach was beautiful and almost empty. It is so pristine and relaxing to just listen to the sea in the off season.

This is beach is really a residents beach and the residents buy season tickets although you can pay $8 to walk on each under 11 are free but as every one pays it is well run they have lots of life guards staff who pick up litter and lots of bins
You can have surf lessons just passed the south pavilion
The beach is clean and you get a variety of waves very gentle some days 6 foot waves once when we went one day which was great for the body boards
There were a few announcements reminding people that there is no smoking which is great and no alcohol allowed
There is a snack bar, lemonade stand which is delicious and clean toilets yes you can buy life guard t shirts we were pleased as I bought large ones as a cover up for the kids on a windy but hot day
It's great for building sand castles
It's our favourite beach in the area with a nice clientele

I've only been to Narragansett Beach in the off-seasons (fall, winter and spring) so I can't speak to the summer, but I love the off-season. It's a great beach to walk and pick up the occasional small shell. The views are beautiful. Parking is free and generous. The drive along the water is gorgeous too. It's well worth visiting when it's not full of tourists.

I have been to way more beautiful beaches that are FREE! This TOWN beach starts charging beach goers at 830 am and they don't stop charging until after 5pm! Concessions are super expensive it's much cheaper to walk a mile depending on where you are camped to the cluster of food shops! It's not even that clean...

Typical RI Beach with plenty of room good for kids and large sand area for sunbathing. Water fun and great waves.

Such a great beach. Clean and quiet. Even when the beach is crowded, it’s quiet. The beach has showers and a snack bar.

Narragansett Beach is excellent for families. Clean sandy beach with gradual slope into water. Separate areas for swimming and surfing. Clean rest rooms. Typical snack bar. Expensive: parking $10 a day and far away unless you arrive very early; and admission $10 a day unless buy a weekly or season pass. Ice cream $5 a serving.

This is the most beautiful beach. The views are spectacular. The sand is soft on your feet. And the waves are perfect for surfing, boogie boarding or body surfing. You run out of air before you run out of wave. It is a nice place for children as you can walk out pretty far before the water starts to get deep. On most days the waves are 1-2 feet but during storms they can get pretty big and powerful. The beach gets extremely crowded on the weekends during the months of June, July and August but May and September are just as beautiful with more space available on the beach.

OK, so though it was early March, and relatively empty by summer standards, there were still a good number of beach goers and walkers and joggers and their dogs enjoying the beach. So if you are looking for secluded this is not it, but for a local beach this is a good spot. Clean sand, nice ocean views and should be no dogs during the peak beach months.

Beautiful beach with a great view of the Towers and easy walking to a few restaurants & retail shops. Just get there early or late because parking during peak times can be an issue

Visited in October on a delightful warm and sunny day. Beach is very clean, great white sand, surf, and nice to walk along the shore. Not sure about the price during the season...it was free this time of yr. Would like to return during the season.

Went to the Narragansett Beach for a wedding that was in the beach clubhouse. The beach was really nice, full of families with kids. Great place to watch the sunset too.

Great vibe and beach. It can be crowded but not bad on weekends. It is very clean and actually has some good waves!!! Rhode Island is fantastic!!! Cool place for a week. Several other beaches nearby as well.

This is the beach that one imagines when they picture the perfect beach outing in their minds. Soft clean white sands stretching for two miles from end to end. Gentle slope into the water for those who like shallow play or deep water swims. GREAT body surfing and boogie boarding, and a portion of the beach set aside for board surfers. If you don't feel relaxed and rejuvenated after a day on this beach you probably need to seek professional help. Enjoy the seafood at the end of your day. Perfect all summer long.

Another reviewer was spot on when they said:
"If you’re looking for a nice day at the beach stay away from Narragansett Town Beach!
The town does everything in its power to keep outsiders OUT. ..."
My experience:
You can park in town but must move within 90 minutes. I asked a parking enforcement person if moving to another spot started my clock again and was told yes, So I moved up the street 4 blocks away after 80 minutes...afterwards you find out you need to move and park on the other side of the street. Since I didn't switch sides of the street I received a $50 parking ticket! Sent a note explaining my situation but was sent a court summons four months later....not going back to that place to fight...will just tell everyone I know not to go there.

This is a very beautiful beach and a beautiful area to visit in general! We had a great time and the cost was only $8 to go on the beach (my 1.5 year old was free)

I have never seen such a beautiful sunset in my life! This was jaw droppingly beautiful last night. We came for the first time, and although there were a good amount of people there, and some parked with their lights on shining in everyone’s faces (annoying!) the sunset was so beautiful I didn’t feel like I was in reality.

Save your money and go to Newport, RI. Took my son and 4 of his 12/13 year old friends and it cost $70 to get on the beach. Extremely crowded and was an "ok" experience at best. Not from the area but there weren't many options afterwards for dinner. Again Newport and all of its options blows away Narragansett!

Spent a little time on the beach while waiting for hotel that never came through , this was the only enjoyable part of my visit!!!

What a breath taking beach. So clean, you wouldn't believe it. The lifeguards were very alert and on top of their game. Del's also made it very enjoyable. The water was so clear, that you could see the strippers swimming around. We had the best time there.

Love the beach, however parking is difficult to find sometimes within a short walking distance to the beach

Been coming here since i was a kid and the place is perfect. Nice rolling wave that aren't crushing the kids on the beach. Nice food stand and a Dels cart. Clean bathrooms and showers for the end of the day. Must get there early for parking or you'll be walking a long way from past the Coast Guard House

We went to Narragansett Beach twice during our last trip to Rhode Island. The beach is gorgeous and the waves were amazing for our kids to learn how to body surf. The beach was super crowded, but very clean and we'll staffed. We look forward to going again and again!

This is my second year at this beach. It’s a great beach but it gets very croweded. The surfing is great but there’s so many surfers in one place at one time which can be dangerous. Unfortunately, in my first 3 days of being on vacation, I got something called Summer’s Itch at this beach. Summer’s itch is a parasite from seagulls and snails. It’s very itchy and uncomfortable. I’ve only gotten this parasite at one other beach. Be careful before coming here, if you get Summer’s Itch often, avoid this beach

This is a family friendly beach that has so much to offer. You have a snack shack and just 5 mins (walking) you have plenty of place to eat. You can rent surf boards and take lessons right on the beach. It has plenty of bath houses as well.

The beach was beautiful! This time of year it’s a bit too cold to go swimming, but lovely to walk along and look for seashells!

Narragnasett Beach is a good place to get some sun, enjoy a dip and let the kids build sand castles, there is a strong under current so always keep your eyes on the kids. The beach can get packed around the beginning of June throughout August. The price of parking is ridiculous if you want to know the truth, but the state needs venue to keep the beaches clean. I recommend

The sand was great, waves easy to navigate, lots of room to walk, parking not too bad, if staying for the day the parking fee worth not making a trek to reach the gate if parking for free down the road.

Great place to people watch, especially surfers on a lazy morning. Good photo ops and interesting characters.

We stopped by on our way to Cape cod and had an incredible few hours walking and swimming. Very beautiful setting. Easy parking. You can get a good walk in from the public parking lot. We will make day trips in the future from Brooklyn to be here for a few hours. Can't say enough about this beach.

Can't really say too much about the area as it was a little cool this time of the year for our visit. Lighthouse area was very rocky with rough waters that the surfers seemed to like. Tough to walk to the beach from here as there is a steep drop off. For a good beach, try the public areas with plenty of parking and nice accommodations. Would love to come back when the weather and the water is warmer. Must say, plenty of friendly people on the beach and walking around the area. Found it to be dog friendly also!

Nice beach, lots of space to sit. Clean beach , no rocks . Vendors on site. Was there with my kids and the ask to return which is a good sign.

A very clean beach with great water and waves. We read to come early and got a parking spot in the lot right across the street. I was fine with paying to walk on the beach because it's clean with restrooms, concessions and lifeguards. The water is beautiful and people were friendly. It gets crowded so go early and enjoy the day.

Beach was not over crowded, clean, safe and had all the necessaries. Just what the beach meant years ago. Lots of activities on or near -- a good family spot.

It's $15 to park on weekends and then $10 per person. Way to expensive for a family of 6 to go to the beach.
On a highlight Food Trucks from 6:00-10:00 p.m on Monday and Wednesday is a lot of fun and the food was very good and reasonably priced.

I took time out to have a good swim early morning one day this week and was lucky to find the sea calm.
Plenty of lifeguards on duty so felt safe swimming up and down between the bouys.
A nice beach - but lots of boards can make swimming a bit tricky

90+ weather brings all to the beach, but what do we look for? soft sand, warm water, and waves that you can get lost in, or body surf on! That's Narragansett Beach.
Be prepared for difficult parking and high costs, but we found free parking on the street, if you are patient. Look out for No Parking Signs... the fines start at $35.
There aremany life guards, which is necessary with the amount of peope who come here. Too much beachfront is given to those with surf boards and boogie boards, in my humble opinion, but in all fairness, the waves are spectacular. Rentals can be purchased at the beach.
The parking ca cost between $15 - $25 per carload, and an entrance walk-on fee costs between $6 and $10 per person. Outside showers and cafe food are available.

This was our first visit to this area. I can honestly say of all the beaches I have gone to over the years, this beach is by far my favorite. It's just beautiful. Stunning views no matter where you look and the water is clear. So many stones to find. As well. Beautiful area. I can't wait to come back. Miles of beaches it seams.

The beach was good. Nice sand and waves good enough for body board and basic surfing. The water doesn't get too deep so good for kids. Parking was tough the car park got full early (10.45) and the only spaces left were for locals.

Nice sandy beach along the Atlantic ocean.Great place to relax and take a long walk.In the summer they have a concession stand and beach lockers .

From the seawall to the Narrow River, Narragansett Beach is the crown jewel of Rhode Island's beaches. Best sand, best waves, best people watching...

My family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids - 9yrs and 11yrs) visited Narragansett Town Beach for a daytrip on a Thursday in August. We arrived at 9:15am. Parking in the "South Pavilion" lot at that time was wide open, $10 cash only. Admission to the beach was $8, kids 11 and under were free (unexpected bonus!). Adults are given a wristband so you can get in and out of the beach at any gate. All staff that we encountered were friendly.
We set up "camp" in front of the "South Pavilion", half way between the pavilion and the water, where we could still see the kids in the water, but get to the bathrooms and parking lot easily. We were allowed to set up a pop-up shade tent. Coolers were not a problem, although glass containers are prohibited.
The beach is clean. The sand is fine and sugary. Above the high water line, the sand only has some small pebbles in it (no rocks) so it's comfortable to walk on, although it does get HOT. At the high water line, there are a lot of pebbles, but it's not "rocky". Below the high water line and in the water, there are very few pebbles - it's very comfortable to walk on. Water shoes are not really necessary for swimming at this beach. BE CAREFUL - there are sudden dips in the sand under the water.
The water was cool - it took a few minutes to get used to it, but once we did, the kids didn't want to come out. We had a breeze, so there were lots of waves just big enough for the kids to body surf. Boogie boards and skim boards are allowed in the swim areas. There is an area specifically designated for board surfing.
The South Pavilion has men's and women's bathrooms with changing stalls in them. There are also open outdoor cold-water showers for rinsing off. There is a food concession, which we did not buy from since this was our first trip and didn't know what to expect. They serve everything from nachos and burgers to fried fish and shrimp and fried dough. ALLERGY ALERT: they fry all of their foods in the same oil. There were "Del's Frozen Lemonade" carts at both gates near us.
In all, this is a very nice beach to spend the day at. Definitely go early for easy parking and prime spots on the beach.

Nice place to walk along the seawall, or on the beach down to Narrow River. You can grab a Dels or stop in for a cocktail at the Coast Guard House or Turtle Soup. Views are amazing!

I am a Rhode Islander ... I left after high school .. went to college in the south and landed up in California.... HOWEVER ... I always come back to the best beaches .. Rhode Island
I have been to many summer resorts .. beaches and I always always says that nothing compares
NARRAGANSETT Pier Beach .. the upside it’s clean , has good junk food and lots of families . It has a long strip of beach for walking .
The downside it is expensive and the parking is so hard.
So I’d that is too frustrating and you can’t get a BEACH PASS
GO TO SCARBOROUGH BEACH .. a little further down and lots cheaper it is on the way to Gailee.. nice beach but not a lot of walking .. also good junk food
Or want a really kid friendly beach SAND HILL COVE.. no a lot of waves but lots of kids
No matter where you will love RHODE ISLAND BEACHES

The beach is very pretty and full of surfers, however, there is no parking for non-residents. The two huge lots are for residents only. There is street parking for the "rest of us", however, it can be quite a walk to haul your stuff to the beach from where you have to park. Plus, once on the beach, we'd have to each by a wristband at $10 a piece. With two teens, we'd be spending $40 a day. As a result, we would walk the beach in the evenings and spend our days at Scarborough beach where they had better amenities and only $12 per car to park with no fee on the beach.

A clean area beach, nearby walking area for eats, all trash taken there has to be taken back with you no trash receptacles. Seasonally great!

A family of three will have to pay $40 to enjoy this paradise of fine sand and beautiful ocean spray with nice waves. Its well worth it in my opinion. Parking at the Beach in the South Lot was $10 and this lot fills up fast. Have a late breakfast ? You might not be parking here but don’t despair an additional private lot across the street that runs from 10-15 dollars depending on the day . You will be reminded by staff at the town lot that there an additional fee of $10 per person to enter the beach , a fee in my opinion that is reasonable, given the cleanliness and quality of the beach itself. You’ll receive a lores wrist band upon entry good for the day. Other beaches are available in the area with just the parking fee and no “sand fee” in case you object to this practice , but I don’t and gladly pay it .
There’s even sunblock dispensers near the gate in case you forget yours. Bathrooms and showers and changing rooms are available and theres a full service staff and many lifeguards on duty.
The food concession stand can get a little pricey but the quality is good so out of mere vacation convenience its homerun in my book. Expect to pay around $30 for lunch for 3 people including drinks . One word of caution- EAT YOUR FOOD UNDER THE PAVILION as the seagulls go into attack mode and will dive bomb your lunch right out of your hand unless you’re under a beach tent. You’ve been warned.
Surfing is allowed here and the surfing area is separate from the rest of the beach at the Southern most part. You can walk the entire length of the shore past the private beach clubs all the way to the mouth of the Narrow river, a nice activity that I would recommend.
All in all the Naragansett Town beach shouldn’t be left off your list ! Kids love it there.
Lastly there are hours of the day when the parking is free but I’m not sure what time exactly and sometimes due to weather the beach is “closed” but “open” i.e.No fees at all and we experienced this one supposed rainy day when the sun emerged late in the afternoon.

Love putting my feet into the sand here. It's a very clean beach with lifeguards, bathrooms, food available... Waves are here. You can walk a couple of miles on the beach. From Narragansett beach, you can walk past Narragansett's North beach, The Dune"S Club, and end up at Narrow River. Downside is paying for parking and an entrance fee as well.

I have never been to a beach anywhere they charged per person Plus parking. It was $34 for three of on a weekday. The beach was wonderful -soft sand and warm water. Very clean!
But there are also announcements to sell t-shirts and music over the loudspeaker. Who wants that?!
In short, there are so many beautiful beaches for less money in RI , why come to this one?

Be aware that if you're a nonresident you will pay $10 to park across the street and another $10 per person to get on the beach, would have been $60 for our group for an afternoon. This seems to be the one RI beach with a surfboard rental place right on the beach, however, the water was crowded with surfers the day we went to check it out. We ended up going to Paddle Surf rental in Westerly and carrying the boards on our roof rack to Watch Hill. That worked better for us, although we paid $40 park in Watch Hill and had to carry the boards quite a distance to the beach but the beach was beautiful and the water wasn't crowded. There was no charge to go on the beach in Watch Hill but also no bathrooms.

Nice beach with some good waves to play in. Didn't see any boardwalk or food, we were just passing through for few hours.
Parking is limited get there early or get a ride.

My husband and I have been going to Narragansett Beach for 15 years. The beach is wonderful all year round. The beach itself is about a mile long and includes a section along the Narrow River.
We find the fall, winter, and spring to be the best times for walking leisurely along the beach.
When you're done walking the beach go to the Bike Stop and have a wonderful lunch.

My wife and I visited this beach yesterday. Beautiful beach. Plenty of parking. No complaints about the facilities. But charging $10 a person on top of a $10 charge for your vehicle is a bit much.

Absolutely beautiful! Not much traffic. I walked across the street from my hotel. You can also park on the side of the road. Not as crazy busy as Martha's Vineyard or Newport...

Beautiful beach. There were 6 of us, including a toddler - who loved the great sand. Waves were good on our visit - so the guys enjoyed using their boards. It was crowded - but it was a Friday, and we arrived late morning. There is a fee for parking and for a wrist band for the beach - could be expensive for a family. Many families brought umbrellas, chairs, coolers etc. for a day's outing. There is a snack bar if you don't want to bring food.

This is a well maintained beach with very nice facilities. It was a bit crowded when we went there and had a surprising number of surfers.

We ended up here by accident...long story. But found a perfect Airbnb walking distance to this beach and we loved everything about the town and the beaches. We were so lucky to have ended up staying here. I highly recommend this town for anyone looking for a wonderful beach town in NE.

Love the Beach, I should say THIS beach. You do have to pay to park and even to walk on but all I can say is you get what you pay for. It is a beautiful, clean beach. Great for walking, swimming and you could take surfing lessons if you wanted to. The life guards are fabulous and all work so hard all day long. The Town of Narragansett has a great thing going on. Looking forward to my next visit.

This town beach is popular with locals and tourists alike. It is clean, has a full-service pavilion, food stand, and is patrolled by the local police department summer interns. There is a fee for both parking and entrance but for many it is well worth it. Facing easterly the surf is great. This beach is very popular with surfers.

Beautiful beach! I live in RI & go often. Be aware this is the only beach in RI that charges to park AND then to access the beach. You pay twice. $6/$7 bucks per person to get on the beach. It is always packed!

Narragansett beach is the best beach in Rhode Island. Always clean, well maintained and the best life guards!

Very nice beach, nice facilities....we went here for the first time and really enjoyed this beach....very good for families....no booze, cigarettes, pets allowed.....very clean and well managed. Get there early and pay to park....parking lot is open to everyone until it gets nearly full and then is open to residents only.

Greatnbeach better than most on the Cape and a much easier and less stressful drive. Beautiful location and many great restaurants nearby.

Nice beach, came here 4th of July week. No open container allowed but the beach is large with plenty of room. Need to pay $12 to get in

Summer could be a problem with parking on the street. Best time is after Labor Day when water is warm and number of beachgoers has dropped, not to mention hotel prices! Great restaurants in the general area or with in a few short miles.

Nice family beach has snack/food concession stand. Lifeguards were very intensive on all swimmers and several rescued because on under tow and strong waves because of off shore storm. Great beach.

It was a bit smelly but quite close to delicious food if you're interested in sea food! I would recommend spending time there and then heading over to Block Island!

We went to lunch in Narragansett and found the beach. It's beautiful and very convenient. Definitely worth a visit.

This is one of the prettiest beaches in New England. The sand is soft and there is rarely seaweed. The facilities are also well kept. Parking is limited for out of town guests so plan to arrive early. It's not cheap $10 a person plus parking, but well worth it!

Not to crowed, but it didn't have to many spots!!! Very nice water, so not much sea weed or red tide.

There is no better or healthier place to be than at Natural Fitness yoga on the beautiful NARRAGANSETT, RI town beach every morning at 8am in the summer with Gina Raheb .

This beach was just a short stroll from the Coast Guard House restaurant. When we were there, it was quite windy, which really made it ideal for the surfers! There tons of them there. Far outside the general surfing area were the pros; waiting for "the big one!" Some of them were really good!

The skies are blue, the surfers are out ... time to put on your bathers and dip your toe I. The Atlantic Ocean.
Across the bay you can just make out the outline of Newport ... home of the Americas Cup for many years.
Don't be surprised ... you pay to get on to the beach between 8:30am - 5pm!! Season Passes available if you are staying any length of time.

Great beach, if you don’t like to have fun at the beach. $12 entree per person. Can only play catch in designated areas, which means not in the water. They search every bag you bring in. Can’t go in the water more than about 50 ft out. Absolutely packed as well. Beautiful beach though, sand and water are very nice.

It is a beach, and that is about it. Maybe it is all they have, but compared to other beaches like Gulf Shores, Destin, South Padre, it is just so so. There were a few out there in wet suits thinking they were surfing, but no comparison to Hawaii or even the Gulf of Mexico. The day was foggy and drizzly, and therefore not conducive to interacting.

I have been going to "Narragansett Town Beach" (NTB) for several years and it's the best big beach in the state. It has good waves all around, particularly at the Southern end for surfing and boarding. The facilities are clean (i.e. bathrooms are kept up) and they have outside showers.
NTB is essentially split into two parts - North where parking is for residents (of Narragansett) who have parking passes, and the South which is open to the public, except for holiday weekends where it is also limited to residents. There is a small amount of nearby street parking and a lot across the street, but they fill early.
Lifeguards are every 50 yards or so and are easy to find as they are the best looking people on the beach. The beach goers range from large families, to seasoned locals to URI college students. All behave rather well (except for my kids).
Now for some drawbacks (why this isn't getting 5 stars):
- You pay to park and to get on the beach (children under 12 are free).
- It does get crowded on July 4 weekend and on Sundays when the preceding Saturday was rainy. To avoid crowded areas, I recommend walking a little farther north once you enter the beach, almost near the Dunes Beach Club.
- Alcohol is not allowed (may not be a drawback to some), but I don't see them check coolers when you enter.
Overall, I recommend the beach (or maybe I shouldn't, to keep the crowds down), but get there early (before 9am). Better yet, get a season pass for parking and beach going. Thanks for reading!

The bay is beautiful but only if you can use your imagination to make the crowds disappear... or, if you don't mind to share a small space with tons of other people. I prefer coming here in the early morning or off-season.

The sand was soft, nice, large waves. Clean area, nice parking highly recommend this beach. We went after five, so there was no cost.

I am a beach goer and like to go to different beaches in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. This is hands down my favorite. It is a great mile long walking beach, it is picturesque, has white sand and sometimes no undertow. The only negative which other beaches have is the parking lot fills up and on occasion you can get closed out. We had a back up plan to have lunch first and bring a snack to the beach so that is what we did so then we had no trouble getting into the lot and still were able to enjoy a few afternoon hours on the beach. It is a plus that this is a no smoking beach and does not allow ball playing. During the week it was an easy drive to get to the beach from the Boston area.

We stopped nearby this beach in the early morning when it was foggy. A lot of small fishermen-boats nearby the beach. It was easy to park, and totally not crowded.

Very pleasant, clean and spacious beach. Safe bathing and supported by lifeguards.
Easy walking up and down the shoreline.
A lovely afternoon spent in gentle relaxation.

We went on a Wednesday when the surfers are there, thinking it would be fun to mix the beach styles. Surfers and skimboarders have a designated area where no one else is allowed, but I just swim or boogie board. So when my boyfriend wanted to skim board we couldn't be in the same stretch of beach.
The beach itself was nice, short distance from lot to water, flat, no rocks or seaweed. 8$/pp non residents. Parking 10$ or we parked down a side street for free and walked further. Concession stand with HUGE selection and decent prices, public bathrooms and changing area with showers. Great trip for families with kids

I have spent time in Cape Cod, South Shore Boston, North Shore Boston, Long Island - and hands down, this is the best beach I have been on - almost always at least some surf - no rocks, very clean all around - just the best.

Super beach! Great waves for boogie boarding. Surf lessons available from local surf shop. Get to town early for free parking on the street. Good facilities that are cleaned regularly. Lots of lifeguards. No dogs. No alcohol. No smoking. No boom boxes -- good for families. You can bring food in but beware the seagulls - they are very aggressive. Free admission later in the afternoon/evening after staff goes home and facilities close.

Lovely beach but had to pay $8 for the pleasure even on a cloudy day as a family of four could be $32.

We went July 31. The water was cold but you get used to it. Perfect waves and a whole lot of fun. We're from Florida and have shells on our beach so it was fun to look for rocks. It costs $12 per person to go on the beach which is a bit steep but they do have clean bathrooms and showers available. They close at 6pm promptly so sorta defeats the purpose if you're staying later than that, which we did b/c it was summer. We went on a weekday and it was pretty crowded so if you're going on a weekend I would definitely recommend going before 10 am.

We walked the beach this morning and it was just beautiful. 67 degrees and it was low tide. Pretty quiet day as a storm came through last night. Great spot for your 10,000 steps.
On a sunny day, one of the best kept secrets on the east coast. The body surfing here is amazing. You run out of air before you run out of wave. 😎

Like the sand much better than walking over stones to get to water. Good waves. Beautiful view to look at.

This town is famous for the beach, the surfing, the rich old mansions on the water, the seafood! This last item brings so many visitors here!
But we have to add the great restaurants, the small boutique stores and all the people that make this town so alive!

Slightly wavy, bathroom, shower food etc
So picturesque, great for small kids, wide stretch of beach, loved The cleanliness

What I enjoy about Narragansett is that there are facilities ready to be used for any visit. along with a food court and even a small beach store. I surf down there from time to time essentially if you live in RI and southern MA, the beach is a great choice.

It’s a pretty, large beach, but seemed like a total cash grab. You pay to park and then have to pay to enter the beach area. Seemed like a kind of rip off. We just chose not to pay almost $100 to enter the close beach area and just walk the outside of it.

The sand is hard packed and the beach is usually full. We found the state park beaches ( driving distance ) to be bigger, more spread out, with fluffy sand to build and play in.

Home for a wedding in May allowed us time at Narragansett Beach without a pass and helped us discover FABULOUS clamcakes when Aunt Carries and Iggys were so overcrowded! Yum!

Small in width and about 2 miles long. Very expensive!Parking $10.00 and then they charge you to walk on the beach , which I think is illegal. Blanket to blanket.

A wonderfully maintained beach and surrounding town. Everyone we spoke with up here was so refreshingly polite and it really was a joy to just be there and relax

Wish this beach was a state beach, but unfortunately, it's not. Parking and entrance to the beach are two separate charges. If you're lucky, you can drop your family off and try to find street parking. The pavilion is clean, the sand is soft like powder and the views are beautiful. Long stretch of beach to walk and waves to ride if you don't mind the chilly water!
Tourists not wanted
Expect to spend $50 for a family of four just to breathe the same air as the elite reisdents of Narragansset.
THE GOOD
1. Lots of parking reserved for locals, and it's right at the beach.
2. Not too difficult to find parking for tourists... but read more to find out why.
THE BAD
1. Parking is $15 like most of Rhode Island beaches. However, you can find free 2 hour parking close by.
2. Beach is crowded. Maybe that's why they charge a per head fee.
THE UGLY
1. $8 per person per day to go on the beach. Seriously. It shows me they don't want visitors nor the lower income families.
Most travelers know Rhode Island is out of touch with the middle and lower classes. So, be prepared to pay some sort of fee (at least parking) at most beaches.
We instead chose to drive to Revere Beach near Boston where they don't charge any fees, don't require a filed 1040 for proof of 6-figure income or higher, nor a blood test to prove how blue your blood is. Plus, it is 5x as big with 1/10 the people on it.
