What a beautiful Place- If you are Columbus you have to go the Museum. Had dinner for 55 Class Reunion - Food was excellent. Service was very good. Hope to take my grand Children one day!

What a gem. We brought our family here as a surprise for our teenage son's birthday and it exceeded our expectations by far. The exhibits make history come alive, the WWII tour with Smith was interesting and well presented, and everyone was so polite and welcoming. Especially loved the St George statue on the ground level. Next time we’ll make sure to check out the Giant Screen.

We thoroughly enjoyed the museum! The volunteers care about the museum and share a lot of knowledge. The exhibits are so very well done and look realistic. Thankful to all that have served our country!

This is a very nice museum. I do indeed recommend it if you want to take your
kids somewhere educational and fun.

Great military history museum, great location. Nice pictures and military equipment from different wars

From the moment you arrive till the moment you leave the staff is AAAA+. We visited on our sons graduation day from BCT. We were traveling with our special needs daughter and everyone was extra helpful. The exhibits are grade AAA and couldn't any more informative than they were. Would highly recommend taking the time to visit!!

One of my favorite places to visit when I am in the area!!! I use to live in columbus but been away for almost 7 yrs now but there is one thing I try very hard to do is to go by and pay my respects to the replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall there. I grew up with 4 of my uncles serving in Vietnam. I am old enough and still remember every afternoon tuning in to the CBS news to catch any news I could of the War. I am so very blessed that all of my family came home from multiple tours. May not have been the same as Vietnam took a piece of them for sure. I always do my very best to go by and pay my respects and say a prayer and a thanks for the sacrifices of the men and women who died and to pray for the families. Thanks to all how served.

We could have spent all day in here. There is so much to see! I plan to come back the next time I am here to see what we missed this time.Highly reccomend you check this out

I've visited most of the Smithsonian museums in Washington, DC and I would put the National Infantry Museum on the same caliber as any of them! Very well-done. The exhibits are high-quality, very well-organized, and overflowing with information. I took my time enjoying the exhibits and learning as much as I could, but I found myself a bit overwhelmed. There is just so much to see and learn! And seeing so many of our soldiers enjoying the museum as well just made my day! I love our country and our service personnel! I was hoping to catch a graduation ceremony from Fort Benning, but there weren't any the day of my visit. I will definitely return for a second visit, though!

This review is limited by the fact that we had to speed through this museum and skip entire sections due to all the loud battle noises played over the sound system. They assault your ears as you enter. I don't know what they were thinking. Surely they realize that many veterans suffer from PTSD, and that others, including young children, are noise sensitive. The entrance and facility could have been better laid out for people in wheelchairs. The staff were very nice and friendly. The facitlity was clean and there were many objects to look at. If you go, don't enter the first parking lot with the gate in it. The signage is a little confusing. Continue uphill and you'll find the larger visitor's lot. The gift shop had military-related items, but not so much on military history.

There was so much information. Displays were mostly life size and unbelievable. Went twice in the same weekend. Do the reality helicopter and hummer!

This was an excellent stop on our to Birmingham. The museum had excellent displays with interactive exhibits. My 8 year old son is a military enthusiast and had a great tme here. They also had numerous nice memorials on the grounds behind the Museum. Would definatly visit again.

This is a world class museum. The displays are fantastic because they bring to life the experiences of the infantry soldier. To really get the most out of your visit, we suggest you plan on a full day or two half-day visits.
My concern
1) The word descriptions at the various displays are in such low light they can barely be read. .
There are two places to eat. Snack bar was quicker but the prices are too high.
Well worth the effort to get there

Good exhibits. Palpable to see so many visitors turning blue, even other branch members. I know, one should not complain: But was security OTT? This being the only blue bolt in otherwise one's taking away breath experience.

We visited the Museum in conjunction with our son's graduation from basic training. What a fantastic place! And it is a great place for a family vacation. A recommend allowing for two days in the museum, since there is so much to inform and educate about. Also recommend cabin camping on the Chattahoochee river at Uchee Creek Army Campground. This coul be a great weeklong adventure.

Outstanding museum that utilizes video, memorabilia, and stunning 3D displays to explain the role of the infantry throughout American history. Detailed statues wear uniforms from different eras. There is a moving exhibit about military families as well. Outside the museum, memorials honor Korean War and a Vietnam section echoes the Vietnam Memorial in D.C. The Terrorist Fighters' memorial includes a beam from one of the twin towers destroyed on 9/11. At each site, fallen soldiers' names are listed. The museum continues to grow, with signage about upcoming additions. The most recent addition, about Gold Star families, opened the week before we visited. Minimum of 3 hours to really view and appreciate all the great information. Inspiring!

My buddy took me to the National Infantry Museum & Soldier Center, right outside Fort Benning, and what an awesome experience it was! The quality of the exhibits, the variety of the items, the cleanliness of the area, the interaction capabilities...everything was on point. I had been in a couple of Military Museums, this one is pretty high on the list. If you are visiting the Columbus area, don't miss this magnificent museum.

This is a top rate museum that only requests a donation. We gladly donated. It is a beautiful building with many historic items. There are three levels and the place is huge! The staff was friendly and helpful. If you like seeing military memorabilia do not miss this museum!

The second year of it’s huge structure, my family and I toured it. The beautiful memorial wall-walkway with the many states, tall flags is a sight to see!
Over the years we’ve toured three times as well as it’s large modern movie theater, topped with it’s concession stand drinks and snacks. The popcorn is the best!

The National Infantry Museum is in a beautiful building. The exhibits are well laid and detailed. My 12 year old grandson enjoyed the museum even though the simulators were not working (the simulators are not available on Tuesday’s).

Absolutely top notch History museum and it’s FREE (donations accepted). It travels through each war and each branch of the military, giving a great description and history lesson of each.
Warning for those with PTSD: there are a lot of realistic scenes and sounds to simulate war. If you suffer from PTSD this could be very triggering.

We arrived within two hours of closing. We enjoyed the 100 yard walk to start our visit. We came back the next day to see the rest of the museum. We were there two hours the first day and three hours the second day. The Vietnam and War on Terror walls are impressive. They are very sobering. A must see for everyone.

The museum is a must see. It is so detailed in showing all the wars our soldiers have been through. Another bonus they have a great theater which shows movies.

Stunning place to visit. History of the foot soldier, awesome and moving. It makes you realize just what these kids go through and have gone through.

Words can not express the experience. This is a place that everyone should visit and realize the sacrifice others have given for what we take for granted today. Thank you to those that work there for a great visit.

A 5 dollars donation a person. This was by far the beat museum I have ever been to and that says alot since I have been to all the Smithsonians and live in Chicago. Each exhibit wa over the top well thought out, clear and concise. Just beautiful in every way. The store had so many cool items at reasonable prices.

We have 3 kids in different ages and all 3 enjoyed their visit to the museum. Very interesting and well put together.
Definitely a must see if you have a geek history in the family

The National Infantry Museum is an amazing place to tour. Honoring Military service members throughout our American history--Excellence deserves recognition🦅🇺🇸🔔. Each time I visit, I am humbled by the sacrifices made for We the People of America and abroad. My grandchildren ages 10-17, love it too. I am so grateful for the men and women who sacrifice & serve for our Freedom. Also, for those who dedicate their money & time volunteering to keep this museum going for future generations to see. This place will touch your spirit & soul.

This place was fantastic. The guards were friendly and helpful. The place had documentary films, Sounds to displays, lights and actions and very interesting displays.
There’s also a restaurant on site. The food was delicious, my only concern was the waiting time to be seated. Prices weren’t bad, and the food was really good. The entrance was free but they do take donations.

Wonderful museum representing the queen of battle. It was wonderful seeing second lieutenant showing their wives and girlfriends the history of their branch. Basic training soldiers were paying rap detention to the tour guides descriptions. Clearly the American infantry will take good care of us

I've been to this museum about 20 times now, but it's never disappointing. It's well kept and a great place to stop in and check out whenever you're needing to kill time, so long as it's not on a graduation day lol.

We offered our classmates a chance to see the National Infantry Museum in May when we had a weekend full of fun at our 50th class reunion. It is a wonderful place to visit and they have Guides who will take you through the museum to explain everything to you. They only ask that you donate $5 per person.

Nice atmosphere facility museum with history that salutes our soldiers. Geared for families to come out explore the galleries , artifacts, The Dignity Vietnam Memorial Wall and the World War 11 Company Street. There is also a Giant Screen Theatre, my "USMC" (Ret) oldest sister raves about the state of art sound and combat simulators oh boy... You will enjoy exhibits on a tour event as well.
Whether it is a military graduation, I have attended one here (such a moving occasion). An evening gala or like me a lovely high school reunion dinner. August 2010 left a memorable experience on our classmates CHS 1980' 🐅.
This is a place to visit while in Fort Benning.
There's so much to see here and because its a museum the best part is that it's Free!

This museum is amazing - a must see! You begin by walking 100 yards through military history. The Last 100 Yards - the distance to the enemy - the distance the Infantry is responsible for fighting. Each war has a unique diorama with historically appropriate uniforms and weapons. As you enter the passage, you hear the sound of many boots marching, reminding us that the infantry soldier marches for his country. You hear guns going off and see the flash of artillery shelling. The "mannequins" for these displays are very life-like! They were created by former combat soldiers who posed, wearing facial latex masks for two hours, and plaster body casts for four hours. I can only imagine how painful it must have been to hold those action poses for four hours!
Each gallery is focused on a different war. The gallery dedicated to Viet Nam includes an immersive jungle experience: when you step into the controlled environment, it's hot and humid, with dim lights and restricted views. Even though I knew I was in a museum and quite safe, my heart started beating faster.
While the building is fabulous, don't miss the Memorial Walk of Honor, with memorials to the various Divisions. The Sniper Memorial is haunting.

Visiting this historic establishment makes one really appreciate the history of our service men and women and their sacrifices for our nation.
This museum is a must see attraction for all and a must for our youth to educate and help them also appreciate the past and present of our service men and women.

We visited the Infantry museum after our sons graduation from IBOLC at Ft. Benning. Great museum. Very well laid out and very interesting. A great way to learn more about the infantry part of the Army. Would recommend a couple of hours to see it, longer to really enjoy it.

Highly recommended. Enjoyed our time. A must visit at fort benning. Beautiful grounds. So much fun and very educational.

It's free, with option to give a donation by credit card at the entrance. It has a good mix of interactive displays, like touchscreen you can scroll through, plus some short videos, along with regular museum artifacts. We went with a 5 year old and 9 year old. It was possible to keep them entertained and behaving for about 2 hours with all the options they had there, including a stop at the movie theater concession stand. We didn't actually see a movie while we were there, but they had a selection of documentaries that looked really good.

You need almost two days to really appreciate the amount of things you will see here! Absolutely fantastic! Learned so much and all of the displays are magnificent! We loved how each war had its own room...made it amazing to progress through and see how everything improved with each time period. Great place to spend the day for sure!!

As a US Army Vietnam Veteran, I have a great appreciation for all of military men and women. This is a great tribute to our military and our country. An honor to have served this great country.

I am retired Army and we were visiting Fort Benning so we stopped at the free Infantry Museum. I can remember the previous Infantry Museum which was on the post. The new museum is beautiful and represents the role of the U.S. Army Infantry throughout the years of the country’s history. Highly recommend, and open to the public.

This place was named a top free museum. What a great history lesson for all ages. Excellent displays keeping the attention of all ages. Wife loved it too. Thank you soldiers for my freedom.

If you visit this place is a Holy Site as far as any freedom loving American should feel. What every hero that ever served went through for us is extremely humbling. God Bless those Warriors!

We wish we'd had more time to spend here, but enjoyed the really high quality displays and information that portrays the military history of the United States, with an emphasis on the US Army infantry. You could spend all day here, between the indoor and outdoor displays and historical sites.

We visited here during our trip for our son's graduation. Great history! The memorial walk outside was amazing. Our younger son learned a lot during this visit. It is definitely a must see stop!

OMG! Columbus, GA is famous to military members as the home of “Fort Benning.” Airborne soldiers, the School of Infantry, Basic Training, and on. It’s hugely famous. However, who knew that a museum that rivals all the class, amazing displays, historical artifacts, and just plain appeal of the Smithsonian Institute resided in Georgia? This place is just amazing. One can easily spend hours going through the myriad of displays, the thousands of artifacts, dioramas, and on and on. This can be the best part of a full day visit and one won’t be bored. A MUST SEE if you’re within 100 miles of Columbus!!

A very complete museum. While a complete picture gallery of medal of honor winners, there is no key to the pictures. Many rooms of weaponry, etc from various campaigns. An extra $ 10 each, per person, to visit the larger equipment in the back.

We visited here after my sons army graduation. This place is a must see. Beautiful state of the art building. They have an area to commemorate every war we fought in. Everything from helicopters to air planes. Also a cool Vietnam memorial wall. Plus a full scale old school training Barack's outside. This place is amazing. You must see it if your in the area.

We were in town for a friends graduation from OCS and he took us to the museum. We spent probably 2 hours there and it wasn't enough time. It was one of the best museums we have ever been to. They use their funds well and really have made a wonderful experience. They are donation only so you can go and visit and donate what you wish. The museum is very interactive and has so much to see and read. Videos, exhibits, stories. It really is one of the best. I highly recommend going if you are nearby!

We were in town for Airborne graduation at Fort Benning and just happened to see a sign for the museum on our way onto the base. I'm so glad we made it a point to visit. It was both humbling and awe inspiring. There is so much to see and learn about the Army Infantry. It really makes you appreciate the blessings of living in the United States and the men and women who have sacrificed for our freedoms. GO VISIT!

One of the top twelve military museums in the world. Top free museum in the country (donations were solicited). Soldiers at Ft. Moore train here to learn Army history. Volunteers are available to answer questions. Displays are laid out beautifully.

This is a phenomenal FREE MUSEUM for anyone who is interested in military history. We had an absolute blast and wish we would have slotted more time. We will go back again soon because there is so much more to see. We also attended a lovely event here (Officer Candidate Graduation Ball).

Awesome museum, a must do while visiting Columbus! We went while attending our son’s Army boot camp graduation weekend and we are very glad we did.

This museum contains the history of the U.S. Army. There are displays showing the Infantry involvement in all of the wars and battles throughout history, including the Revolutionary War, World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam, Cold War, and Desert Storm. While weaponry is on display, it is not the primary focus of the museum. The “Family Room” is filled with memorabilia and stories about how the families would care for and communicate with those who were serving our great nation.
They have some exhibits outside, including a monument for the Korean War, a replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall, and one for 911.
While the museum is free to visit, they do ask for a $5.00 donation to help support the museum.
If you’re visiting Columbus, Georgia, be sure to add this to your places to visit. You’ll be glad you did.

This museum needs to be on the top of everyone's list of places to visit. It is incredibly informative and at every turn you are transferred into moments that have shaped the current United States Infantry! We walked, listened and fell in love with every ounce of history detailed in this museum.

The National Infantry Museum is an amazing place with many wonderful displays. The Global War on Terrorism memorial is my favorite as a Gold Star Mother whose son's name is upon the wall. There are many other wonderful tributes outside the museum and the history chronicled inside the museum is second to none.

This is a must see if you are anywhere near Columbus, GA. And all free. The restaurant has very good food and very reasonably priced. 😀

This is such an interesting place. Lots of great exhibits and artifacts from Revolutionary war thru present day. There is also a cafe and gift shop and clean restrooms. The price is just a suggested $5.00 donation. The parking is also free.

The grounds, artifacts, monuments and memorials are beyond anything I’ve ever experienced at no cost. That’s right 240 + years of Infantry history at no admission cost (only donations). If in the area plan to visit. My family and I recently attended an Infantry Military Graduation Ceremony held on the grounds which was very fitting and touching.

The museum was incredible. The first 100 yards was very impressive! The volunteers were very welcoming, helpful, and informative!

Visiting the National Infantry Museum, in and of itself, is a humbling experience. Realizing the sacrifice that we, as a country, have made for freedom, but then to walk the halls of this place of such honor gave me a feeling unlike any other. Hero's, all of them. The sacrifices were not just a countries, but every family that has lost someone in a war or the feeling when your soldier is on deployment. I now know, partially how they feel. having a son in the Infantry. I believe everyone should visit the Museums of our soldiers and understand, what they can, the sacrifice people have made for them.

The National Infantry Museum is a must see! This building is beautiful. It is full of information and history. The exhibits are very well set up and nicely put together. I definitely recommend this to anyone.

Definitely recommend going, there is a lot much to see and learn. Staff is very friendly. Great for military and non-military families.

Beautiful grounds, detailed displays with so much attention to detail. I had given the experience 1.5 hours. I could have spent the day there and not experienced all the beautifully organized displays. Such a worthwhile visit- I will be back.

Excellent history museum and grounds. Well worth the trip. Must do if in Columbus.Excellent lodging on the grounds.

The National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center is an American treasure and must see! We visited to attend the graduation of our family member from infantry training at Ft. Benning, GA and had time to visit during a free afternoon. The exhibits are fantastic and inspiring. We are grateful to the sponsors of the museum and to our Army infantryman who are represented so well in this incredible facility.

If you are a history buff this is definitely a stop to make. This museum honors the history of the US Infantry. It spans the begining of the Infantry up to modern day. One could easily spend two hours looking at the displays.

When visiting Columbus and\or Ft Benning this is a must.
Excellent exhibits and has an interactive room in the back for an additional charge where one can direct a helicopter and other things. Could go back multiple days. General admission is free. Can't beat it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well worth the visit both family and military will enjoy the visit. Life like action from the revolutionary war right up to the present.

It really is worth the visit. It’s an exceptional museum with several activities for all ages. We enjoyed the interactive exhibits and some of the VR activities (extra charge, but not unreasonable).

At a cost of $110,000,000 this museum delivers on telling the story of the contribution of infantry to the successful outcome of wars. The exhibits are state of the art. More limited is any discussion of the damage done to all who serve, or the poor decision to even enter most of the war the US has engaged in. During our visit, a young, troubled Iraq vet (25 months), just walked up and started to explain how he was intrigue by guns when he enlisted but was exposed to the realities of military life and wars. A member of his squad, honored with a statue outside, fell on a grenade to save his troop. This soldier is struggling to deal with all he experienced. Why do we expose our youth to this and damage them for the rest of their lives. I had no answers for him. Do you?

An incredible compilation of US military history under one roof. Segmented by wars and time periods, each room is complete with authentic dioramas, original artifacts and in later wars, actual video footage within the displays.
To realize the enormity of this wonderful museum, a full day will not permit you to take it all in and get watch the iMax theater offerings.
I had opportunity to visit the previous Infantry Museum before this was built in a white clapboard building…and thought that was incredible…but there is no comparison to this new museum.
With two children that are career military, one senior enlisted and the other an officer, it takes on added significance. But apart from that, it is an education, even a conundrum of the unfortunate necessity of war to maintain peace.
Plan for a full day at the very least, and immerse yourself in history.

The museum was easy to find, very impressive look from outside, easy access, friendly and helpful staff, and option of group tour or self-guided. I consider myself an academia on the War of 1812, I would the displays on the War of 1812 to be very accurate. The facility was very clean and had health and sanitation measures. I really enjoyed my self-guided tour and it allowed me to spend more time on displays that interested me. One thing I wish I knew before going - it would take nearly 4-5 hours to completely tour the entire museum.

This place was amazing. The adults loved it and our 7 year old. The scenes depicted of each war were the best part. It was so big we needed more time, we will be back.

The museum is awesome for children and family that wants to get to know some history of Fort Benning, GA. My children loved it.

Very nice set up, very informative on all years ans wars , well worth the stop, everyone should go to learn and see real history up front with your eyes and see how far time has come.

Best place ever, this place was so well designed that it truly show the history of the US Infantry and the Armor corp

This museum has lots to see. We visited for 3 hrs and only covered half of it. Hope to visit again if we travel back to the area.

The museum was very good however it seemed to repeat itself on each of the levels. It is a little hard to find and you could drive thru a little seedy area.

We went and the museum is free. They ask for a $5 donation it is worth more than that. It takes you through history of the US infantry. You can take 2 hours or more if you like Or just 30 minutes. I could spend hours there. There are replicas and many historical items to read about and view. If you like history or just a little interested you shout go.

Drove up to a magnificent building with perfectly manicured lawns befitting a place to honor the soldier.
After clearing security, we went in and all of a sudden it was 4 hours later and we had only looked at 2 of the 3 floors.
You are immersed in each period of war, have rooms of static displays with good history of the items for each period. Great to go through with new recruits who are required to visit. Many had families with them. Many veterans were there also.
They covered most areas well with information on all races and accomplishments.
They had a family room dedicated to active duty and past families. The kids room had uniforms to put on like mom or dad.
Area not really covered was women's role in support and active service during these periods. I am sure the women in uniform there would love to see that to inspire them more in their service.
They also had a combat simulator room and an IMAX theater which we did not visit.
Outside displays include Vietnam memorial wall, war on terrorism statues, a WWII barracks town and a few vehicles.
Staff and volunteers were fantastic.
Need another visit to finish all of the museum.

Museum is well designed, detailed and very enjoyable. The displays are realistic and the artifacts are well preserved. The information is presented with no political agenda. Regardless of your thoughts on any military conflict, educating oneself on what occurred is important and this museum does that admirable. A vast number of artifacts and information is presented so be prepared to spend the day. Well worth the visit, it is not just for veteran but will make you appreciate veterans even more.We will be returning.

This free museum is absolutely fantastic-- great displays, good layout, well-marked and organized. Such a contrast to the disappointing US Army Museum in Springfield VA. Good mix of weapons, stories, training, past, present, and future. Loved the Afghan living display (yes, we really did live on Ripits). Would have liked to have seen a few more armored vehicles outside, and the WWII barracks was closed. Also, the gift shop was a little light, great place to sell some books and models, I would think. I hope every American can get to this museum. Even a non-military person would love this, it's just so well done.

Be sure to take the time and really go through the museum. You can literally spend all day in there. Take the WW2 tour outside.

Visited in September 2021 after my son's graduation from Basic Training at Fort Benning. One of the finest museums I have ever visited and I've been to many.
Extremely comprehensive, wonderful exhibits and displays. This is a "don't miss" if you are in or around the Columbus GA area.
Most definitely would recommend. Take your veteran!!!

This place is amazing. We'll organized, great content, fantastic organization. If you are in Columbus you should stop in. My teenage son, and wife loved it as well.

Loved this place had alot to offer a person, we came from out of town and thought we would see attractions

This is one of the finest military museums I’ve visited. It is absorbing right from the beginning. The exhibits are historically significant and wonderfully displayed. My teen kids all wanted to spend more time. Really well done.

Extremely well done and very moving . Some exhibits quite visceral. History presented, the bravery of men and sacrifice documented and explained. The infantry experience from the Revolutionary war to the present. All the dead men. We spent over three hours

I have been to many military museums and this, by far, was the best museum I have had the pleasure to visit. With an Imax theater, great bar and grill, and interesting and complex displays, one can make a whole day of it. The National Infantry Museum is a great place to visit!

Clearly this museum attracts the Ft. Benning infantry crowd, but this is an exceptional museum for all interested in American history. The format, and lay out are not your old-fashioned museum - it's entertaining, engaging, and humbling. You do not need access to post to visit - it's just outside the gate.

Great place to learn the history of wars . Don’t take your soldiers here as you will spend days going through all of this and that time is precious! Plan an additional few days or an additional trip because it’s really worth seeing!

Our son brought us to tour; he’s stationed at Ft Benning Airborne training. So interesting to see how the army has evolved over the decades. We spent about 2 hours.

The National Infantry Museum is a must see while in the Columbus/Ft. Benning area if you have even the slightest interest in US history.

For those who have served and those who haven't , this is a place of honor and sacrifice . Take off your headgear when you enter and take in the history .

We spent Memorial Day 2022 here and spent many hours going through the Museum and the outdoor Memorials. Though a Navy man, my father was Army so my son was able to see many things about the Army my father talks about with him as well as learn some much needed History that our School system fails to teach out younger generations. I loved this place. We also visited the Global War on Terrorism Memorial where I found 7 of my fellow Navy Seabees from NMCS-14 we lost in 2004.

This is definitely the best military museum we have ever visited and ranks at the top of all museums we've seen. There is so much to see here that you will likely want to spend at least the better part of the day (we came back twice!) even if you're not reading much of the commentary. Very well done; very educational.

This is a fantastic museum. It is free to get in but they ask for donations.Three levels. We did not get to see everything due to our son had to get back.We will check the rest out the next time we get back

An awesome experience for any Infantry Soldier, new or old (like me). The dioramas and exhibits are well laid out and thought provoking. We'll worth any detour in the Benning area!

I was amazed at all of the exhibits. One could spend an entire day at the museum. I highly recommend!

It is a world class museum. And worth visiting for those interested in US military history. The artifacts and exhibits are fascinating. Also, the information desk staff: Gail and Richarda were delightful and very helpful and patient with our questions. They warrant recognition (i.e., bonu$).

Wonderful museum - very neat to learn and see everything they have. Could easily spend a full day here. Our 6 year old loved dressing up as a soldier. Everyone who worked here was extremely friendly and helpful. Very Neat experience. Would recommend to anyone visiting Fort Benning.

tells the story of all the conflicts our troops have been involved in, from the revolutionary war to today. If you were ever in the military you will like this museum. It was especially significant to me since Ft. Benning was where I took my basic trainin.

Great museum! Full oh history and information. You walk through at your own pace! Very worth your time!

Came here to honor my late father-in-law. He served with Patton in Italy during WW II. The way it is set up is fantastic and very educational. Would visit again when in the area.

If you are in the Columbus or Fort Benning area don't miss this museum. This museum tells the history of the Army's infantrymen. It has free admission and should not be missed. Expect to spend 4 hrs touring the museum inside and out. I have been to many military museums over the years and have never been more impressed. Seriously folks don't miss this one you will come away completely satisfied.

This museum is absolutely beautiful and full of military history. It's definitely a beautiful place for all in the family to enjoy.

Also went for Turning Blue ceremony. Excellent, informative, and at times touching exhibits of our history

If you are in the area, you must go to the museum, you will walk away humbled, appreciative and inspired to help our military. Everyone who lives in this country needs to understand and see the price that has been paid by our soldiers to keep us safe and America free.

This is a MUST see on your next trip to Columbus. Even if you think you aren't interested, the curation of this museum is second to none. MOVING experience. Make sure to get one of their volunteers to walk you through. Many are vets with great stories.

Whenever I visit Fort Benning and Columbus I visit the Infantry Museum. I get all choked up just viewing the first few exhibits on the entrance. Great walk through the history of our country and the many wars and conflicts we have fought in. Disappointed there was so little on Just Cause and Urgent Fury. Plenty of parking, easy to get to, food available at the museum.

I was absolutely in awe of this museum...the history and the virtual reality is amazing! As you walk through you realize that our amazing culture and life here was paid greatly by many before us. Humbled beyond words.

Wow!! Great museum! I loved the museum... very unformative and visually interesting. Spent a few hours here and still feel like I didn't see everything. But left with a wealth of knowledge.
Although I think it should be visited by a nominal fee. Especially since they funnel you in to an attendant who asks for a donation. If you were to just ask a small fee then people would not feel pressured into "donating" an entrance fee.
I certainly would have and did pay both times!!

I wasn't exactly sure what to expect when we stopped in, but it was a great infantry museum. There was a lot of history to look through. The facility is laid our very nicely and was easy to navigate through. We were quite impressed with it.

History of the wars and the post are well laid out, as are all the exhibits. A real tribute to the history of the Army and the Airborne units down through history. Lots of memorabilia and talking history sections. My 7 year old granddaughter even enjoyed it. A lot of walking, but wheelchairs and elevators will get you around without a problem. Takes several hours to see it all, but well worth the visit. The Fife and Drum Restaurant has great food at reasonable prices. Best place to eat when in the area.

This Museum located adjacent to Fort Benning Georgia has wonderful exhibits on the US Army Infantry and the role that it has played in every war the United States has been involved. The artifacts are very impressive and the displays are professionally done in a very tasteful manner. The use of sound effects and lighting bring many of the exhibits alive.
All types and sizes of weapons that are used in warfare are on display and provide wonderful examples of uniforms worn throughout American history. Admission is free but a $5 donation is recommended. Expect to spend at least 2 hours. Food Service and gift shop available.

This was a wonderful place to visit and offered a lot of history. We were a little pressed for time, but could have spent most of the day here. Would recommend you visit here!!

Please note coming home from Florida to Ohio made a planned stop in Columbus Ga to visit this museum. Drove there only to find it closed and no opening date. Very disappointed

I couldn't resist the temptation to title my review "Hurricane Evacuee II" as a follow up to the review posted yesterday by smillet. My 'bride' and i found this to be an excellent way to spend a few hours in the Columbus/Fort Benning area as we (too) seek refuge from Hurricane Dorian currently terrorizing our Saint Simons Island neighborhood. The exhibits evoke memories of days gone by.....in my case from two tours of duty at The Infantry School beginning some 50+ years ago. Truly a walk through history that is guaranteed to educate and stimulate the minds of, not only, patriotic Americans but freedom loving people everywhere. A "must do" for anybody close enough to visit!

Our son wanted to takes us here for family day. Loved and enjoyed seeing everything from past to present. Would go back again. There was so much to see and the kids also enjoyed it.

This is a fantastic museum for the entire family. The history of what our men and women had to endure in order to protect our freedom is amazing. This is something that everyone should see and should be taught to our children as part of American history. This was my first visit with my son and my father. You could spend the good part of a day going through history.

A dinner reception was host in the museum. My first time to visit. Much like the ones I visited in Hawaii (ARIZONA memorial etc). This museum provides an emotional high to learn all about the brave souls who protect our country and the world. My deepest sympathy and respect for all the sacrifice made. A must for all ages

Very impressive collection and presentation. The display really brought home the conditions of war and the efforts involved.

Best Military Museum outside of DC. We have been multiple times and we are looking forward to our next visit.

Awesome place with tons to see around the grounds. A lot of pride and patriotism is felt while here.

Loved this museum. My grandpa was stationed here and my mom took us for a visit and I really enjoyed learning the history of our armed forces. Nice people who work here as well

This museum is a must for veteran s and non-veterans. It accurately depicts the infantry at was and guarding the peace.

Beautiful, well displayed museum. Every detail went into the exhibits. We plan to visit again. Loved it.

We were at Fort Benning for our sons graduation from basic training. We spent several hours walking around the National Infantry Museum. The exhibits are a walk through military history. The artifacts they have on display are amazing. We also did the combat simulators, that was fun...especially when you get the bragging rights with the best score.

We visited here during our son's basic training graduation, spreading our visit over 2 days because there was much we didn't get to see on the first. The history of the infantryman from the 1600's to present is detailed with world-class artifacts presented from every U.S. conflict along the way. There is a lot of reading, and not a lot of hands-on for the younger kiddoes. We had a 13 year old that got bored until he found the Medal of Honor recipient's display and got lost in looking up their stories. But the rest of us, aged 22 and up, and history lovers, were engrossed the entire time. If you have an interest in US or military history, don't miss this fabulous presentation.

My son and I visited the NIM during family weekend while at Fort Benning. This museum has been put together very well. There is a lot of information and displays were awesome. We highly recommend a visit to this museum and look forward to going back again. The staff was also very friendly.

Really well laid out. Our family age ranges from 9 to 63. Walk way takes you through the different wars our county has fought. Tastefully done with pain staking details. Really enjoyed the visit. They also offer a Movie Theatre with regular movie and resturant. The simulators take Visa MasterCard Discover or American Express. A 5.00 per person suggested donation helps them to operate the privately funded world class museum. Please give more if possible when you visit you'll see why say this.(donation is Cash or card) Totally impressive.

We went here when our son graduated from basic training at Fort Moore. Amazing museum especially if you love combat history. I am not a huge fan of military history but this museum kept me interested. My husband and soon were huge fans of the museum

As you enter the Museum you start on a journey into the world of our American Infantry. Nothing will prepare you for the immersion that you feel as you walk through the nations battle fields. One can spend a day reading the information, and learning our soldiers lessons. Everyone should see this great building.

I agree with other fellow reviewers that this is a must see!
Each room has a period theme for each war and is very informative and has an impressive collection of memorabilia.
It certainly leaves one with the reality that the world has and will have wars/battles and how proud I am of our soldiers - past, present and future.

The pathway is beautifully lined with state flags all the way to the outside museum of Vietnam and Gulf Wars. The geographic displays of Asia and Middle East are educational. It becomes emotional when you get to the statues of soldiers/heroes since it is so recent. We salute all of them!

Make sure you have some time to spend as it is a large museum but not to worry they do have a snack bar if you work up an appetite! As a history buff and fan of Military collections this is a really cool place. Some of the halls make you feel like you have been transported back in time to the battle...dont pass this one up.

I am a combat veteran, a student of military history, and a dad to a toddler. My family’s visit to the infantry museum was long overdue, considering our close proximity.
Foremost, the museum staff and volunteers were welcoming, professional, and knowledgeable. First rate all around.
Also, I believe no one really understands what the being under fire is like until it happens to them. It’s simply not a relatable experience. Several exhibits come close. I was crying uncontrollably following the “incline” entrance to the exhibits.
I believe the average person should visit to gain some kind of understanding of the truth of war. However, I caution anyone with experience in the matter to exercise caution before visiting. Attempting to explain that I was ok, despite falling apart in front of my three year old as he asked “what are those men shooting with their rifles” was crushing.
It’s not that the exhibits were gruesome or “over the top”, but rather crafted by someone with a similar experience and the ability to create an atmosphere that triggers enough of the memories I have tried overtly to leave behind, or that have been dulled by time.
The experience was completely unexpected.

I will tell you that this is such an amazing musuem with true to life scenarios of all of the wars that our country has been involved in I learned so much here I could have gone again for a second day if time would have permitted a must see if you are I Columbus GA

Day trip see old haunts: jump towers, Infantry Hall, Harmony Church, etc. EXCELLENT side trip, worth the time. Brought back a lot of old memories; some good, some bad. Old vets will know what I mean. Couldn't see all of it, need a full day.

I went with 2 veterans and they and myself were very impressed with the films and eras depicted in the museum! We really spent a good bit of time in there without realizing it, since it held our interest so well.

We were in Columbus for our son’s graduation at Fort Benning. There is lots to see inside the museum. There is lots to see outside. You can spend a whole day here easily. We have been twice now and still haven’t seen everything.

Weekday visit - not too crowded. Wonderful volunteers Clean environment with stunning displays. Very meaningful and good history lesson. So many personal artifacts listed by name - very touching

A well presented display of immaculate condition US Army memorabilia. I am a Army Veteran & have wanted to go for some time and it finally worked out while we were on our 'hurrication'.
My children enjoyed it and asked a lot of questions. We did all of the sumulators, which were fantastic! The volunteers and employees were very courteous and helpful.
There are outdoor monuments as well as a large screen theater. We spent about 4 hours there and still didn't see it all.
Whether soldier or citizen you will appreciate this museum & leave with a deeper appreciation for our military. Go, you must go.

This was the perfect ending to our Family Day with our Infantry soldier. It had displays that immersed you, it had clear signs explaining the history, the visual displays were lifelike, it had audio and video sections and helped us to gain insight into the job that our soldier would be facing. It was a excellent family outing for all ages!

I am a veteran and I enjoy going to the infantry museum. They have a lot to see and the movie theater is a plus. The customer service is great and they are very helpful. It is a fairly large museum. They also have graduation ceremonies in the back on the the lawn area which is very nice. There is a hotel next door for visitors to stay when visiting. It is a very awesome attraction here in Columbus GA and I truly enjoy it.

Outstanding! From the walk through history, called the Last 100 yards (that ironically begins your visit), you will almost feel like you were there with the infantry. The individual exhibits of different periods of our history are also outstanding. When I went in May the restaurant was not yet open (only the snack bar), nor was the theater. But, the interactive simulator portion was open (I did not try it). For those who read the descriptions, allow several hours to see entire museum, particularly if you choose to see the parade grounds and exterior exhibits. Admission is free, although a small donation is appreciated.
Note: as others have mentioned, if you have PTSD, be aware that the sounds are pretty realistic and, particularly in the WWI trench area, quite loud (surprisingly so).

This is worth seeing!!! It is also free only ask for donations. The staff was knowledgeable and awesome at telling local and Army stories. It was worth the time to visit and my solider enjoyed it as well. It will bring you to tears in a few areas at how well everything is put together and real.

What a sobering experience. It is a fantastic exhibition. I just wish that we had a lot more time. Well worth the stop.

We visited it today, and it was very interesting, even for people who haven't served! Staff and volunteers were fantastic! You can easily spend 4 hrs in the museum! Do not forget to visit the garden of honor outside the building!

We were in town for Grandson graduation from basic training. The day was D-Day so the museum had many special things planned. The exhibits are outstanding and very well done. There is a suggested $5 donation and it is worth every penny. Nice shop for gifts and souvenirs. Restaurant upstairs was great for lunch as well.

This is a museum to see! It's very well laid out, showing the history of the military from the beginning of our nation. There's lots to see and we spent a couple of hours there. We had lunch at the restaurant too. It's even more interesting if you have a soldier as a guide which we did! (I don't think that option is available however.)

This was a great place to visit for an educational experince on the history of the US ARMY infantry/Fort Benning.

This was the most informative museum on military history I have ever seen or heard of. Begins at the Revolutionary war and proceeds thru current. A complete history with personal stories of each war. Will take approximately 4 hours or more to see everything. Planes, helicopters, parachutists mounted in ceiling. Humvee's and other military hardware abound. A MUST SEE IF NEAR COLUMBUS, GA. ALL THIS IS FREE TO THE PUBLIC!

Great place to visit. It really made history come alive for all time periods. You could spend hours here. We enjoyed our trip.

Stopped on the way to see the World War II National Museum in New Orleans. Was astounded at the scale and excellence of the collection and presentation. Truly world-class. I must see! Fills the mind with appreciation and the heart with gratitude!!!

Great place to see the history of the US Army Infantry and Fort Benning. Very nice museum with all kinds of interesting artifacts from the before the Revolution to the current day infantryman. Hooah!

You can "skim" through the museum or go as deep as you want. It could take an afternoon if you like. The best part of the museum is that it provides the history of individuals and how they made a difference in the conflicts. If you want to take it all in it could take several hours. If you have a little time, it’s worth it. The museum provides a good history of the United States through a military perspective. Since our country has been involved in military conflicts since its inception, for a history buff, the museum is a "must see." Intending to be open to all, you pay what you want. The tank museum was moved from KY. My only disappointment in KY the tank museum illustrated a more comprehensive development of the tank and the officers involved, it took up a huge area in KY and at Benning the portion dedicated to tanks provided the details that would fit in the area.

They have done an outstanding job of covering all the wars, starting with the Revolutionary War on up to current day. The facility is top notch and extremely well done with remarkable artifacts. Very moving....you will need a minimum of 2-3 hours if not more to see it all.

What a nice surprise this visit was! This museum has so much to offer! The displays are wonderful and the place is well worth the visit!

There is no favorite of this museum, it was packed with history and great exhibits start to finish. Well run, clean, just super super place to spend time. Visited many times and always see something new of interest.

What an excellent day.. a very informative place to visit with lots to see. Very emotional place both inside the museum and out in the gardens. Shop to buy your mementos and have something to eat while you're there. Its a must if anybody visits Columbus

We visited the National Infantry Museum 4 times during our week-long stay in Columbus. My son was commissioned as an officer during this week and is branching with the Infantry, so the museum was of particular interest to us -- but even without this connection, we would have loved the museum as there is so much history and the exhibits are engaging and powerful. On one of our visits, we did the tour of the WWII village which is to the back of the museum. We got driven there in a golf cart and our guide was a veteran of many decades with a slew of stories to tell. Unbelievably, we were the only people on the tour - I can't understand why more people don't do this! The tour begins at 2:00pm and you can sign up in advance. It is free but donations to the museum are welcome. Also, the restaurant in the museum has great food - it is only open for lunch but well worth a visit.

As an Army daughter born at Ft. Benning Army Base, the National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center was a bonus for me visiting my birthplace. It makes you proud of your veteran and all the American veterans. Plus it's free. I definitely recommend this tour.

Just a fantastic museum and well done as many have said. One of the best I have ever been to. It was a beautiful day so also walked the grounds and checked out the different memorial areas.

I would have to say, that this museum is at the very top of my list, during all of my travels. If you are gay military history buff, like I am, you’ll enjoy this museum immensely. So much to see and it truly immerses you into each war on a personal level. It’s visual effects, combined with it’s exhibits and detailed history make it interesting even for smaller children. I would not hesitate taking the elderly here, it is very accessible. A must see.

My pictures do not do this place justice. It is an awesome museum where you need several days to truly enjoy all of the exhibits.

I love coming to this place. My son graduated RANGER school and we brought our visiting family from California here. They loved it. The folks are always friendly, and eager to help. The honor and prestige this wonderful establishment preserves is a true treasure. Thanks for all you do.

I was blown away by this museum. Sadly, we only had an hour and a half, but could have spent double that time exploring the displays. So informative, and more grand than I could’ve imagined. Anyone visiting Fort Benning would be wise to make time to visit. There is also a restaurant on site, we didn’t have time to eat there, but it looked very nice. My 14 and 12 year old were fascinated and wide eyed at it all! Very well done museum.

As a retired Army officer, Ordnance Corps, not Infantry, this museum is a must for anyone who respects the military, especially infantry. A magnificent representation of the history of this Queen of Battle.
Had to visit here on my way back to Atlanta from golf tournament in Opelika, AL. Well worth the additional time. Spent several hours, but could have spent an entire day viewing the exhibits.

Brilliant military museum That honours and does justice to the American soldier down through history. For a good look allow 4 hours. Free entry but I suggest a reasonable donation as it is of an incredibly high standard.

Exhibits from the Revolutionary War all the way to Desert storm including the Medal of Honor tribute was The attention to detail was overwhelming. Takes more than just one day to see everything. Plus there’s a restaurant and a theater for showtimes which we didn’t get to see. Not enough time. Free admission to the museum portion but takes donations. Security check prior to entry to check bags & person since at Ft. Benning.

If you have an infantryman past or present, or you just love history, this is a must see! Great displays and lots to learn!

Was a nice place to visit. Very informative. My family/daughters enjoyed themselves there. Lots of things to see and was nice the had it separated by era.

This museum is free to enter and takes donations to keep it going. (Collection boxes are located in the entrance foyer.) They have everything from weapons to uniforms to documents on display. The Vietnam section had a special room (with a warning on the outside) where you could walk through and see what it would have been like to be ambushed. There is a simulator room in the back where, for a fee, you can try your hand at being a soldier. The shooting simulator allows you to compete against one other person (both need to pay the fee). There is also a movie theater that costs extra. However, the three movies that were available only show once per day, so if you miss the one you want you are out of luck. Outside, there is a WWII reconstruction of Fort Benning and several sculptures/ large equipment. We spent several hours there and could have stayed longer if we took time at more of the exhibits.

This a place you have to see, it makes no difference if military museums are not your thing. This is just a place you would want to see because of the grandeur and scale of what is on display. Not only that, the workmanship and countless hours labor use to bring this museum together is something to marvel at! Make a stop at the National Infantry Museum.

Don’t hesitate to go and see. It’s technically right outside of Fort Benning and full of history! You won’t be bored I promise. Good store as well

Class act! Tons to see. History comes alive. A great history of all American wars and what our boys go through to this day

Simply amazing!!! A must see for families. Plus it is free. I can’t say enough about this place. Super friendly, informative and a great day to spend learning about history

This place is great for young kids, teens, and adults. I’m not a military buff by any means, but I loved this museum! There’s a lot to see, and the 9/11 memorial outside was worth a cold walk in the rain. There’s also a piece of the Berlin Wall and a really informative display about Nazi Germany. If you’re on the fence, I highly recommend this for everyone!

So well done. I would recommend this to anyone in Columbus that hasn't visited it.....or anyone passing through. It's really really well done.

This museum was well worth the trip. Excellent in every way, and free. Please be generous with a donation. You’re going to learn a lot. In addition, there’s a great café with delicious food!

This is a great museum showcasing the Infantry soldier throughout all the wars this country has been in. There is also a great theater and restaurant.

Down for a basic graduation and took the opportunity to visit. This place is fantastic! Very knowledgeable staff and such a clean and modern facility. Highly impressed with the layout and size. So much history. Expect to spend several hours if you want to experience the entire place.

We had visited this museum not long after it had opened so we felt that a second visit would be worthwhile to see what was new. This is an excellent museum featuring the role of the infantry since the American Revolution. There are life sized dioramas of various battles to begin the tour. There is an area detailing the training at Ft. Benning and the relationship with the city. In the lower level, there are several galleries with more details of various times in American history. You could spend all day here...watch a movie, have lunch etc. There was one area we would have liked to visit but tours were not happening that day. So next time we will call.

We only had and one or so to visit. Wish we had longer to stay. It is awesome and it honors the soldier of major conflicts.

I highly recommend this incredible (and free) museum. The various exhibits on the wars fought by our infantry bring a real feel to the conflict, especially the WW1 trench and the Vietnam jungle. A great outing for kids to learn about our history.

Takes a number of hours to see fully. A lot of walking. Some activities for younger children. One coffee shop. Inside and outside areas.

This museum is outstanding. It covers about everything anyone would want to know about the history of the Infantry. From the American Revolution to now. It covers it all and does it in spectacular fashion. Large, easy to get around, fantastic displays and well set up. If you are going through or near Columbus, stop and visit. It is worth it.

Well-designed and laid out. Hours passed. It is a sobering monument to the soldiers who are face-to-face with war throughout our history as a nation. It becomes overwhelming realizing how many generations of people experienced war up close and personal, and there is so much to see and learn about military soldiers, officers, the means of battle/support, and their families. Lots of free parking, free admission (donations accepted). Nice gift shop and a delightful snack bar.

The museum is well thought out and provides a nice experience with visuals, sounds, and experiences. My boys loved the VR simulators. We also caught a graduation which was exciting to watch.

I went to vist the Infantry musem lot to see and do bring old memories when i was at ft benning and the statudes and moments to worth seeing and the tanks i would recommend this place and the theather was good to and the gift shop

Worth a visit!! Amazing place to view military history. I'm a teacher in N. Florida and I wish this was close enough for me to plan a field trip for my US History students. I just left and want to go again!!

Wonderful place to visit American military history. Plan on taking at least half a day to visit. Unfortunately, I only had an hour and a half so I had to move fast and missed some exhibits. I will be returning when I have more time. There is no fee for visiting, but a $5.00 donation is recommended.

My second visit, my kids first. We walked through each decade, listening to audio and reading about what our soldier's endured. The displays were excellent and kept everyone interested in learning different aspects. Great museum. Wonderful staff. Definitely worth the stop. Free museum but make that donation!

This was an amazing museum and perfect attraction to enjoy time with our soldier out of the heat. It is self paced so you can spend as little or as much time as you want.

This is one of the best military museums I have been too. Tells the story well and the artifacts are fascinating. A must see with an interest in the military or weaponry. Very well presented.

Being a former Infantryman I was excited to makes the four hour trip from Florida to Georgia. The building is beautiful and spacious. Plan on making a day of it. There is so much to see. There are a few drawbacks (for me). There are a lot of sound effects and recordings both music and voice played on a loop. Most are so loud it's hard to talk within your group without raising your voice. Downstairs there is a hall full of individual rooms dedicated to time periods, they did not appear to be in chronological order. The WWII "Village tour" in the back is outstanding.
If you're planning to have lunch I would suggest skipping "The Drum and Fife" restaurant. I understand sometimes things go wrong, they ran out of french fries and offered a "premium upgrade" side, two of us ordered onion rings, when they got to the table there was only four rings. Honestly I would have spent half and gotten twice at the Burger King right down the road. Also everything that was fried was very greasy

We went after my brother's graduation and enjoyed the museum before heading back to the hotel. We are history fans and have a strong family history involving the Army. We found the museum entertaining and educational- even for our youngest kiddos.

There is no place in the country where you can see the history of the country through the eyes of the people who fought and sometimes died defending like you can here.

This museum is a must must see for all who enjoy military history and all the wars . This museum was built from all donations and no tax payer money. What an awesome accomplishment. You'll need to spend most of the day here, thats how involved this place is. You won't be disappointed at all.

We celebrated my Aunt & Uncle's 50th wedding anniversary in the Patriot Room located here at the museum. We toured the museum before attending the party. What a WONDERFUL experience! Absolutely amazing! I bet I said "WOW" a hundred times! It makes you appreciate our military even more. There is no charge to get in, however they do take donations- PLEASE DONATE! We were unable to go through everything located in the museum, so I would love to visit again if I ever return to that area.

A lot to see. Great layouts, A lot of visual history captured. Important for everyone to visit. Great to teach the younger generations.

Great museum!!! Very neat to learn and see everything they have. The kids will love dressing up as a soldier. Everyone who worked here was extremely friendly and helpful.

Cool place to stop & check out, take photo's, walk along the river or have a picnic. Lots of cool goodies in the gift shop. The only negative was that the staff wasnt very knowledgeable about too much of anything in museum. Enjoyed our afternoon there!

This place is worth the visit. This museum is privately owned and doesn't receive any federal funding to remain open. The 100 meters you walk in the beginning is pretty intense. The war wings are amazing and full of details from every war and the outside monuments are jaw dropping. The WW2 buildings on the back were unbelievable!.

A lot of war artifacts, great history, nice displays. Good location. Nice staff. Theater is awesome.

After the Turning Blue ceremony, we decided to visit the museum. Quite a bit to go through. Make sure you have time if you want to see everything. It was really cool to see the history of our infantry. We really appreciate our soldiers. Worth the time spent.

One of best places in Columbus to visit! Always something new to experience and learn about.A great place to take out of state guest.Everyone has such a wonderful time!Great staff!

This is a must see as all the war periods are covered. You leave with a deep appreciation of those who have and are now serving in the military. The food in the restaurant is good, too when open.

This museum was so huge, informative, and the volunteers working there were lovely! Give yourself plenty of time. Beautiful, clean museum, amazing displays, maps, uniforms, photography, and information about the Army and wars we have been involved in. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

This museum is fantastic! It has so much information and artifacts. It was awesome to walk through and see items I have heard about. Even the staff is amazing. This is definitely worth a visit. You won't be disappointed

I visited the National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center. This museum is a MUST to see. It is a complete history of our infantry layed out in a very logical and consistant manner in a beautiful building. The employees are excellent and are very well-versed in the museum and history. This museum made me feel very proud to be an American, an Army Veteran and a citizen of the United States. Allow 3 hours for a nice slow, easy tour and 5 hours for an in-depth tour. Believe me, this museum is worth your time and a special visit.

We had a great time at my sons graduation. There’s a lot of great history in this museum and they have a nice restaurant to. Plan on being there all day because there’s a lot to look at.

Many museums aim to honor or educate. NIM does both extremely well. No matter where you fall on the idea of war, this museum beautifully represents the history of this nations battles and shows the utmost respect in honoring all of the infantry soldiers over all the generations. The artifacts and memorabilia they have been able to assemble is astonishing. There are separate rooms for each war all filled with stories and period items. Very impressive. Don't miss the exhibits outside as well. Entry is free but donations are graciously accepted.

The coverage of american infantry was excellent. Only issue was that there were VERY FEW seats laid out in the exhibits. After an hour or more our 70+ year olds were searching for seats like the infantry of old searched for cover!

My wife and I visited the museum in February and unfortunately we did not have enough time to see everything. This is really a beautiful facility as well as beautiful grounds. It is a great tribute to the men and women who have served our country. Well worth the time to visit. No charge to enter, but they accept donations.

This museum is free and parking is free. There is a hotel on the next lot that is very convenient. We spent about 2 hours here and felt that was sufficient although it would be easy to spend longer if you read more. There is a hall called the Last 100 Yards dedicated to infantrymen and women and a gallery with more info on Fort Benning itself. There is a movie theater here but we did not utilize that. They have a gift shop near the entrance. Downstairs are 7 galleries to view which house most of the artifacts. There is an Armor gallery, a Family Gallery, and five galleries based on time periods. The displays and sound effects are impressive. Some memorials are on the grounds outside the building but it was raining the day we were there, so we missed those. There is a restaurant on the premises which you might want to use because there are no eateries nearby. Since it is free, I am sure you could eat a lunch in your car and then go back in to finish the museum if you needed more time. The museum is closed on Mondays but if it is a major federal holiday like President's Day, then it is open. Hours are 9 to 5 Tuesday to Saturday and 11 to 5 on Sundays. No big bags allowed inside. Photos can be taken but no flash. Graduations are on Thursdays or Fridays I believe. If you are near Columbus, GA, this is definitely worth a visit.

Wonderful display from the beginning to today of our infantry, our tools developed and displays of the humanitarian deployments of our brave men and women.
A moving walk among memorials will make you proud and thankful for the freedoms we enjoy today.

very enjoyable, can stay for many hours if you have the time, finding new details in various exhibits. I saw the exhibits on WW I, Cold War, history of cavalry and I look forward to seeing more next time at Ft. Benning.
The giant screen theater is also a plus, though you have to pay for each movie separately ($11 as I recall) so that could get pricey. I saw the Afghan air support movie Above the Best and it was thrilling and very engrossing because of the huge screen and personal qualities of the interviews.
the only thing I can think of to offer some improvement ideas would be to have an area with interactive digital museum (monitor with some intuitive interface for navigating to a topic of your choice) if you want to dig further into some topic. With so much great information shown, it just raises all sorts of follow-up questions (yes, a day on Wikipedia could get some answers) that would be nice to be able to answer right there.
highly recommended!

Well done! I’m a former US Infantryman and thought it was one cool museum. Great history and loved the displays. I really can’t add much more than what has been said! I would say the Museum store inventory was awful! Nothing but designer stuff from large corporations. There are so many Veteran run organizations that could supply the store. What does Oakley and Under Armor have to do with the infantry? The selection of Infantry based items were far and few between!

This museum amazes me. I will be honest I thought, tiny town, probably small museum (I moved from DC so just understand that) and this museum stacked up to any museum in DC! There is soooooo much to see and it's laid out amazingly well with these touches that you just have to see and experience-I guess that's the best way to put it-more than looking at "things" it is an immersive experience. If anyone in your family has been affiliated with the military (and who doesn't have a vet in the family?) you will sometimes be in tears but you will feel connected. My mom has always told me as a nurse at 5th Field Army hospital she sometimes flew in these wild helicopters in crazy situations. Until she actually POINTED to the exact type helicopter that had sight and sounds that made it sound like it was in Vietnam did I begin to comprehend! This is a must see for anyone within driving distance who never knew how amazing this museum is. BTW you will never get it all done in one day but you can hire a private tour guide and get sooo much more backstory!!!

Beautiful grounds and building. Excellent displays of our infantry through the years and many with accompanying videos. They have both a sit down restaurant and snack bar on site. Admission is VERY reasonable and worth every cent

This a very well done with exhibits, sound effects for all wars.
It has life size men, jeeps, airplanes, Anyone who has been in the service or had family members in the service, should go to this remarkable Museum.

Impressive entrance to this wonderful bit of architecture. Many different displays covering a great deal of American history throughout its years. Any person related to someone who has served will find this fascinating as well as current and former military personnel.

National Infantry Museum is a wonderful tribute to our military! Beautiful facilities inside and out. Also a few educational activities for the youngsters, and exterior grounds to explore.

My son got married in the WWII Street Company Chapel in 2013 and had his reception at the National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center. The environment cannot be replicated anywhere, and it was a very special day for all who attended. Educational, unique, surreal (almost spiritual), and the service and food was top notch. One of the most interesting experiences that we have ever had, and we are well-traveled, retired professionals, with 40 year careers. We have been back, never get tired of it, and always take away something new every time we visit! What a testament to our veterans and active military personnel, and their devoted friends and family.

This is a very nice museum with a lot of memorabilia and interesting items regarding the U. S. Army Infantry. Worth the stop.

This is an amazing museum. The best we've ever been to and we are retired military having been to many military museums.

Went to this museum expecting the same as most museums have on display as far as being military. When you walk in its like another world in most displays. You feel like you are there in the field. It was very interesting to see.

Excellent information on army and all things military. There is so much to see and read about the history of the United States military. We spent about 3 hours there but we could have stayed all day to see everything. We really enjoyed our visit. So interesting and it's free.

We were recently there for our son’s graduation at Ft. Benning. After graduation, we visited the museum. There are lots of awesome displays representing several different eras. Plan to spend a couple of hours there to get everything out of it you can. One “observation”, even though they say it’s a $5 donation per person, it’s more like a $5 admission fee. They made sure that people were “donating”. With that being said, it is definitely worth the donation/fee!

Awe-inspiring - that's the feeling a visitor will have as he or she travels through the 250+ year history of the United States Army and its colonial predecessor. The displays and montages make the risks, dangers, and challenges faced by soldiers come alive. The men who defended the colonies and the United States, who fought wars both within and beyond America's territory were so brave - so were the women who served as nurses and later, when admitted into the ranks, as soldiers. You will want to thank living soldiers and nurses for their service. You will be grateful for the service of those who have passed.

Stopped in on a Sunday and place was busy but not overcrowded. A very moving memorial to the US infantry while also painting an accurate picture of life in Columbus as well as the battle theater. It was quite well worth taking the trip off I85 to visit for three hours. A lot of good reading and artifacts.

Well put together history and displays. Good destination for a rainy day! Watched a movie, had popcorn. Beware ptsd triggers though from sounds of war!

Not many museums you can go to for free, and especially this nice! You won't be disappointed. We went twice over our weekend visiting our solider. The boys really enjoyed the VR games downstairs, I personally thought the infantry tour upstairs was beautiful.

Awesome visit today! In Columbus for work and decided to drop by the museum while we had some free time. The staff were very friendly. The exhibits were very informative, well thought out and very interesting. We did not allocate enough time to see everything. Definitely going to come back. Just a note that the museum is free but they request a $5 donation per person. They do have a card machine to make your donation so you don’t have to worry about having cash. Well worth the visit!

The museum is absolutely amazing. As a Vietnam veteran it provided a profound experience and the attention-to-detail was absolutely incredible.

A must see. Especially if that is what your soldier is training for. Wonderful learning experience with a staff that is more than willing to help.

The museum docents met me at the entrance and were very welcoming and informative. The museum has captured the essence of all the decades of infantry history. The museum exhibits flow is well planned. This museum is definitely a must see for people of all ages.

Columbus Ga south of Atlanta. Home of Fort Benning. An absolutely amazing collection dating from the beginning of our country to current. Many conflicts and wars I’ve never heard of.

Worth the trip, great restaurant inside, not enough benches/chairs if you just want to take a break. NEVER FORGET. THANK YOU for your services. So happy to have the opportunity to see this museum.

Very good collection of memorabilia both original and recreated. Excellent memorial to our strong soldiers. Loved the virtual experience in the tank. The restaurant was very good located upstairs in the museum. Docents were very knowledgeable and lots of local "stories"--take the time to have the tour through the outside buildings. Nice to be free for those who can not donate!

I found the displays for the different wars to be top notch. The museum does a nice job of making some of the battles really come to life for the visitors by having you walk through an area for the WWI exhibit that puts you in the middle of a battle field setting and shows the tools, weapons, equipment, and uniforms of the time. My kids and I went during a time that there was a lot of activities going on to include face painting, popcorn, and doing some arts and crafts. It was a great time.

The artistry. The multi-sensory experience. The layout. The progression. This museum is so moving. I was teary-eyed multiple times as I observed with a grateful heart (for those who fought, sacrificed, and made tough decisions) and great appreciation (for those who designed this museum). It truly is a beautiful blending of art, emotion, engineering, etc. We only had 2.5 hours, and that was not enough time. I will deeply regret if I am not able to return and spend more time here. Thank you to everyone who made this museum what it is!!!!!

Medal of Honor recipients and being able to see what they did to earn it. There is so much to see you could spend hours there. Very moving experience.

We visited the museum to learn about the ships of the civil war era. This is your place!! They museum is well layout with enough open spaces so that people can move about freely.
This place is one where you can spend an hour or 3, depending on your level of interest. If you enjoy old ships, weapons and flags; this place is for you!

This is a sad museum because it features all the wars the US has been in - but the displays excellent and very educational.

Museum was very well set up, very informative, clean, and very interesting (even for someone that is not generally super interested in these things). We spent a couple hours with 6 of us and only made it through one building. Looking forward to walking through the rest of the museum tomorrow.

Not only does the NIM have amazing exhibits that brought out memory in all those in our family who have served in multiple conflicts, but they have friendly staff. The complex has outside displays and serves as a site for graduations, they also do a wonderful set up for command dinners. I have been here for multiple events and have been impressed each time.

Exhibits offer a very moving understanding of the importance of the infantry in protecting our democracy since the very founding of our country. The replica of the Vietnam Memorial wall is very moving for anyone who lost a friend or family member in that war. I do appreciate that this museum does not charge an entry fee (donations are appreciated) and that it is primarily run by dedicated volunteers. My disappointment, however, was that the experiential/interactive exhibits were "out of order"....no big screen theater, no virtual reality experience. I could never find any of the kid-friendly experiences mentioned in promotional materials. My seven-year-old grandson was disappointed.

What a fantastic museum honoring our soldiers!!!
We got a personal tour of WW II walk and saw inside the beautiful chapel, the Mess Hall (why is it called a "mess" hall?) and got to see the headquarters building of General George Patton and his small private cottage built just for him, so he could be close to his men! The exhibits are informative but very interesting too. The battles that are set up to see through the decades are so real and knowing that actual Ft. Benning soldiers posed for the figures was so cool. The exhibit of the Medal of Honor recipients was solemn and so emotional. And...getting to fire a machine gun and play at different games were the highlight for my family. We LOVED our visit and since it's a free museum (donations taken at the door but dropped by you in a box)...it's very family friendly. The only drawback was the poor supplies for lunch at the small restaurant that was available to eat in. Small sacrifice when we got to speak to soldiers who were graduating in just a few days and had a "clean up detail" to polish and clean the stones on the Memorial walks. Such brave young men and women from all over.

Being a veteran and father of 3 veterans, as well as an American History teacher-fond visitor to all museums, I have to emphatically say this is one of the top 2-3 museums in the world I’ve visited, (yes, I’ve been around). Since their ‘human’ action figures are life-size and truly engaged with a portion of an historically significant event, your time goes very swiftly.
Well done!!

I stopped today since I was in the area for the first time. Great choice for anyone into American history. First display takes you through a major event of each war from the Revolutionary War through the war on terrorism. Then individual displays concentrate on specific conflicts. I have seen many military history museums, but this is the crown jewel.

Really enjoyed our visit to this museum, well done displays starting with the revolution all the way through today.

Went here with my son on Family Weekend visit. The place is majestic in feel, kept current in the displays, and very detailed in history. I really recommend everyone go and it will leave you with a sense of pride and a need to thank military veterans. Don't forget to see the memorials outside around the back too.

I was tired when we visited but there was lots to see. Impressive building & displays. Enjoyed the Vietnam Wall replica outside.

This class of exhibits is worthy of broader exposure. Nicely designed and maintained. If you’ve an interest in American Army history, you need to visit.

I recently visited the museum after attending my son's graduation. It was such an amazing experience and so comprehensive that I made a return trip the next day! For anyone visiting the Columbus area, this is a must see!

We were visiting from the United Kingdom and had come specially to Columbus in order to visit this museum. We were not disappointed. The museum faithfully tells the story of the infantry and you walk through its history as you visit the various galleries. Our son also really enjoyed the various simulators which were really well done. Do visit if you can; there’s plenty to see - we spent one and a half days there!

My son graduated on the beautiful and sprawling back lawn....this is how we "discovered" this incredible museum. Easy to navigate and wonderfully done. Very visual and plenty of volunteers to answer questions. I experienced both highs and lows here reading/seeing what our US military goes through. (bring a tissue) Truly one of the best military museums around. Don't miss out!

Pros
👍 Amazing historical presentations from pre independence USA to present day USA .
👍 Rare military weapons and vehicles
👍 Some aviation history and aircraft
👍 Plenty of parking
👍 Free entry
👍 Movie theater with military histories and popular movies

Visited during sons family day. It is very well put together with the history the infantry and combat. You could spend days in just one exhibition. We also did the virtual reality game which was fun too.

This large museum covers the history of war throughout U.S. history. Dioramas, exhibits, memorials and movies all bring the U.S. military to life.

This museum is a must see. The whole family will enjoy this. They have a room for the kids to dress up and exhibits just for them. It is a suggested donation and well worth your time. You can spend a full day. I highly recommend it

This is a must see if you are in the Fort Benning area. Super detailed and makes you proud of all our Service men and women, current and past!
Go!

Very interesting and well laid out, easy access, restaurant is a nice addition after a long morning.

I could spend an entire day in this museum. This would definitely appeal to boys and such a great deal since it is free! A cool way to study infantry history and a review of all the American wars. Highly recommend!

An excellent museum! They were voted the #1 museum & rightly so. This museum is huge! 4 hangars plus exterior displays. Many interesting displays - good history lessons. Be prepared to spend at least 3 hours or more.

A superb presentation of the US Infantryman. Wish they had a little more on Robert E Lee. The war in the Pacific ww2 is presented well. Super venue. You could easily spend 5 or 6 hours there. Do ride over to see the tanks by the main gate.

This is a must see for all veterans, their families, school children, and the public at large. It is an exceptional museum with uniforms, weapons, and displays of infantry soldiers from all wars the founding of America to current times. The "first 100 yards" has realistic displays of soldiers in action and traces the evolution and history of the American infantryman and their uniforms, weaons, and tactics. There are theaters that show vignets of history. There are military vehicles, aircraft, helicopters, tanks, and artillery pieces in this world class museum.

Excellent facility. Every American needs to experience this tribute of American greatness. Immaculate.

This place is unbelievably impactful. They have interactive displays that make you feel what the soldiers endured. Letters and videos drive home the human experience of war. This is a must see exhibit. Realize, though, that some displays may make you cry!

This is a fabulous place. It is very humbling and really made me think how freedom truly isn't free. A must see. Wear comfy shoes and plan to spend several hours.

We first traveled to the National Infantry Museum on a field trip with daughter's school about 6 months ago. Loved it so much we wanted to go back and visit longer. We traveled there this weekend and what a wonderful tribute to our members of armed forces. The attention to detail in telling the stories of the wars from the Revolutionary War to the present is amazing. It is hard not to get choked up when you read about and see what the brave men and women have gone through to give us our freedom. God Bless You ALL and your families for giving so sacrificially so that we would have freedom. We appreciate and love you all!!

This place is was amazing. So much information and details. Very well maintained and displays were incredible. Spent 2 hrs and still could've stayed longer. Best museum we've been to by far. And it's free!

If possible, go with a group and book a tour - our group experience was GREAT - thanks to Tiffany and our docent, Mr. Bill! It was my 5th time and I still haven't seen it all. This time, we viewed Saddam Hussan's rifle & sword, parts of the Berlin wall and more history than we could absorb. The 3D film: Normandy-D-day was excellent. There were 205 young soldiers there who are graduating this weekend - we spoke with several of them - we felt proud to see this class of dedicated young men. Lunch in the Drum & Fife restaurant was excellent - Christy is first-class waitress! Looking forward to the next time!

US Army museum of great importance to the history and freedom of this nation. Many static displays, well planned, and presented, all about the US ARMY and the US soldier. Highly recommended.

I attend my friends daughters wedding at the museum. Everything in there is state of the art. They have their own foodservice there. The food was really good and plentiful.

The National Infantry Musuem is an inclusive treasure of military exhibits bejeweled by tributes to Army men and women that fought for America from
early conflicts to today’s battles. Take a realistic look at our soldiers closeup .

This is an outstanding museum, We couldn't believe how well done and the amount of care was put into it, Beautiful building and grounds.
A must see if you are in the area.

Didn't have time 2 visit inside, do 2 the Well-Deserved Graduation Ceremony we attended, was a busy day. Weather was nice.

This is where the US Army soldiers hold their graduation ceremony. Very impressed with the military history stored here.

My Bride found this museum while looking around for things to do. Being an army engineer vet, thought it would be cool.
Beat ALL expectations!!!! Amazing, informative and expertly administrated!!! Staff were wonderful and the quality of exhibits far exceeded any expectation I had.

We came for my son’s graduation at Fort Benning & the grounds are beautiful! We came back a few days later to view the museum. Great museum with wonderful artifacts! This is a must see!
The best part is the initial part you walk through to begin your tour (self-guided). We didn’t see it all, but would love to go back!
It is free, but the request a $5 donation per person!

I truly was not expecting such a well done and in depth museum honoring the Infantry men from before the Revolution to current times! Both the outside museum and inside were remarkably well done! Have at least a couple hours to take your time and enjoy everything! We went twice ! It’s free although they ask for a $5 donation which I gladly supplied on my way exiting!!

The National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center is a must visit if you're visiting Fort Benning. My son loves history, and could have spent hours in the museum if I would have let him. Highly recommend visiting this museum.

We spent a couple of hours at the museum. It was worth the time. Open space and a lot to look at. My teens enjoyed it as much as grandpa.

My 16 year old and I visited last summer and let me tell you, best museum weve ever been to. The fact that its donation based blows my mind. What an amazing place. We went back the next week for the simulators which were quite difficult to shoot, but fun. We will be back!!!

They have artifacts from the Revolutionary War all the up to the modern era.
First of all, I always am amazed to see how small people were long ago. We are giants now compared to them. Their Revolutionary and Civil War uniforms would fit middle school kids.
The museum has a very stirring section on the Airborne units that deployed on D-Day.
There are knives and swords, guns (from side arms all the way up to artillery), clothes and other equipment on display.
Parking is abundant and the museum is wheelchair accessible.

To see a vivid and exciting display of our Great United States Infantry is an honor and privilege. The scenes from The Vietnam War are excellent as well as the history back to the Revolution. Ft Benning and the entire Columbus community are to be praised for making this happen. Well Done. US Army 1969-71.

I came her just because. I did not really expect much. But, this museum should be on every list of places to visit if you are ever lucky enough to get to Columbus Georgia. The expositions are educational, inter-active and dynamic. You want superheroes? Visit the hall of the Medal of Honor. Take time to read and really understand what these citations of bravery and valor are saying. These men would put Superman to shame. If you can let yourself imagine what they endured for you and for me and for all of the world, you will stand there with tears in your eyes humbled at their bravery and sacrifice. Every American should if they are able. These superheroes deserve that homage.

Have previously been to the WWI museum in KS, this was very nicely done. Gift shop is very large, staff is very helpful. Wonderful place to visit with your soldiers while on pass.

I am not one that usually goes to museums, but I'm so glad I didn't miss this one. The exhibits are amazing and you learn so much without even realizing you're learning. It's a beautiful facility and the staff is professional and very informative! Don't miss this if you're in the Columbus area. And don't overlook the outside exhibits!

We decided to do an overnight trip to Columbus GA to visit this museum. Very well made, amazing exhibits. A really good ten minute intro movie to watch. Lots of history. Great for history buffs and military buffs. Today there were several soldiers walking around from Fort Moore. Lots of tanks to look at. Stay at the Hampton Inn next door. Don’t even consider another hotel because it’s a really bad sketchy area. No restaurants nearby. Had to drive 20 minutes to decent restaurants. But if you are going through Columbus it’s worth the stop to tour it. Took about 2.5 hours.

Here for the Soldiers Marathon and had time to walk around inside and out. There are some intense monuments paying tribute to falling soldiers. ( Taking a selfie dishonors every person on that wall, Its not about YOU) Other than some rude people with their phones, reading the history and paying tribute to falling soldiers was great.

We visited this museum on the recommendation of my in-laws. My father-in -law and his brother are both Vietnam era vets and stopped here as part of a longer trip. My young teen is into military history and has been asking to come since he heard of it. I couldn’t believe how well done this museum is! Everything is top-notch. There are interactive exhibits, multimedia effects, large and small scale memorabilia, local, National, and international history. And it’s essentially FREE! (Donation based) The outdoor WWII barracks/ base was very interesting to tour although HOT in Columbus in August. I loved the 40’s music they had playing there. The indoor portion is nice and cool. We spent around 3 hours and could have stayed longer, but we were on sensory overload.. There were several soldiers there with family. There’s a large section about the history of Fort Benning and Infantry training there. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Definitely worth a stop if you’re passing by Columbus on 185, or a dedicated trip if you don’t live too far. We drove 2 1/2 hours and felt it was well worth it.

Ive been to this museum before and it was my husband’s first visit. It is a great place to learn about our nation’s military history. I guess the only drawback for me, with back injuries and not able to walk long distances very well, was limited seating. It would be nice if there were more benches or chairs around the museum for a place to sit down. Maybe even better, scooters to rent for those of us in need.

This museum was a highlight of our trip to Columbus. The historical re-creation of famous battles. Tributes to fallen soldiers and Purple Heart Recipients. Examples of different types of weaponry used by the Army. Even the breakdown of the color of Calvary horses to Ranking. Very informative. Did I mention the simulators that can played? Very interactive.
Awesome Museum
If you’re into military history, or even just history, then this is the place for you. This museum does a great job thoughtfully covering the history of the USA Infantry from inception to modern times. The displays are amazing and the artifacts are plentiful. I really enjoyed the modern exhibit and the WWI exhibit. The entry is free but I would recommend giving a donation by either cash or card. There’s a great gift shop and food options as well. Make sure you give yourself a few hours to really be able to see everything.
