A visit to this monument and reading all the inscriptions that deliver a message to remember our country’s beginnings is must to see. It serves as a salute to those who risked their lives to travel to this country and begin their new lives where they saw such promise. This is a free & self-guided attraction with easy access. A must see when you come to Plymouth.

Especially since I generally like Victorian Era Art / Statues. But I am sure that the Native Americans are not real pleased about it.

Wow this is a heck of a monument! I could not get over the size of this statue. It is very beautiful and I personally am happy to see our forefathers get the acknowledgment they deserve.

Worthwhile for a 10-15 min stop near Plymouth Rock, It is quite spectacular and the grounds are free with Free parking so you don't need to spend any money here

Awesome! Come take a look! Plymouth is the history book you can walk and learn about of our forefathers.

If you want to be awed this is the place to go!!! Spectacular and amazing to see. Best historical site in Plymouth !

An impressive monument to family ancestors. We arrived right before closing and they told us to park outside the park and then we could go in. We appreciated that we could still enter the park.

Quincy Granite! Go here and see the largest granite statue celebrating those brave souls who set out to start anew. You'll be pleasantly surprised, its huge, inspiring and beautiful.

This monument is, in my opinion, one of the most significant in our American history. With a few words, and wonderfully sculpted images, this monument embodies all this country was built on and should continue to improve upon.
Morality, Law, Education, Peace.
This monument is a must see.

I'm torn. It's easy to get to and in a beautiful setting. The size and beauty are impressive. But 10 minutes was enough for me. I really recommend seeing it, but don't expect much.

This monument is really surprising in its size and intensity. We were blown away by the history it describes and highly recommend a visit to it.

The monument is a little ways away from the main tourist area. It’s nestled in between a housing area. The monument is beautiful. Some of the carvings are already wearing away so I’d go see it sooner rather than later.

This granite monument is located on a hill in a residential area of Plymouth. There are figures carved on the monument which depict the virtues of the Pilgrims. Worth the stop to see.

While we were in Plymouth, we stopped to see the Monument to our Forefathers. There is another in Provincetown, MA worth seeing. It was important to us to visit the place where our forefathers came to start a new life in a new country.

Another great tour with Leo from Jenny museum. He really helps explain everything about this monument that most people would not have a clue. A full story about the monument worth the time!

This in my opinion is the most impressive thing in Plymouth. If you see nothing else in Plymouth (besides the rock), this IS the place to go. It is beyond impressive. This monument is huge! The sculptures are very well done, they are beautiful and awe inspiring. This is not my usual way of description, but this monument is something else. Go, by all means, take the time and see it. You will be glad you did.

If your in Massachusetts then the monument is a must see. Its very humbling to think what they went through to get here. There is free parking all around.

Worth the trip to see And this is free it’s a monument sitting in a parklike area very interesting to look at the pictures on the monument and read all the captions

Plenty of parking on site and free to visit. It is a huge monument with tons of detailed sculpting. Each side has a different aspect to the founding of Plymouth. Great spot for a picture.

This statue is amazing, it is tucked away in a small unassuming park in a lazy neighborhood in Plymouth MA. the picture doesn't do it justice, the carving and details are great and it is huge! Much better visit than the very disappointing Plymouth Rock. It doesn't take a lot of time, it is free and worth a visit.

Unexpected, pretty deep piece. Definitely stop and take a look when your in Plymouth, it is well worth it.

you need to see this monumewnt what a great tribute.....up on a hill.....plenty of parking and you can get out and walk around it

The pictures don't depict how big this monument is. Beautiful and well none ~ this would be the perfect place for picnics!!

The monument is alone with easy parking. There needs to be explanation of the monument with signage.

We first became aware of this monument in the movie "Monumental" with Kirk Cameron. Since we were only an hour away in Boston, we had to come see it. A fantastic monument and something well worth seeing and visiting. A great piece of history.

Worth finding right off route 3A. 81 feet tall of solid granite. Originally, with less forestation, it could be seen for miles. Great place for a picnic. It is huge! It should be in Plymouth Harbor, as it is well-worth seeing. Free parking and a lovely place to relax for a bit, and free!

This is breathtaking! I'm so glad I took the time to visit it. It stands so tall and stands for all that the United States should represent. It is splendid and should not be missed.

I live in Plymouth and bring people here all the time and get the same "holy cow" reaction. It's cool because it just sits in a neighborhood completely out of place...which makes it cooler.

Our group really enjoyed seeing this monument. It is very large and has a dignified appearance. It seems to be overlooked as there are never very many people there. You don’t even have to get out of your car if you don’t want to as there is a road around it. You can get out and walk around it however.

I loved this huge, yet hidden gem. The statue speaks volumes of our country being founded on Feith with 4 pillars of morality, education, law and liberty.. Don’t miss it.

If you're going to build a monument to your forefathers you might as well go big or go home. This is big. Boring? Yep. If my descendants are going to build me a monument I hope they do it like this. Don't plan on needing more than 10 minutes including parking, stretching and a good scratch.

Beautiful setting above the town. The statues and carvings with descriptions were informative and beautiful. Worth the short drive up to explore.

The Monument is a “hidden gem” that I am
Sure is often overlooked but should not be missed! Each side of the monument reveals another piece of the puzzle to America’s foundations.

Amazing size of this monument. It takes your breath away. Beauty as she sparkles in the sun. Reading each side of her just takes you back. I Loved This!

This is a rather large monument, that few people know about. If you are in Plymouth to see the rock and plantation, take a few minutes and check out this monument.

Quick visit with great parking and nice scenery. The visit probably takes around 15-20 minutes. Worth a stop.

Impressive monument dedicated to the memory of the passengers of the Mayflower. Four of my ancestors were on the Mayflower. Very cool to see their names carved in the granite monument.

Huge monument that is really hidden in a residential area. Good for a quick visit bit very work the visit.

Not much to do but I was so surprised at the size of this monster! If you are in Plymouth make the time for a 10 minute stop!! I was expecting a 10 foot statue... Hahaha

This monument is a testimony to our country and it's Christian heritage. It is a must see. Located in the middle of a residential neighborhood, we found it by surprise. So glad we did!

Wanted to see this monument - so glad it was open the day we visited. There was a very nice ranger there to answer questions - he informed us upon arrival that the climb was 125 steps.

This is a really impressive monument. It is a few minutes from the Plymouth rock & worth a stop. We read a description online to get a better idea of the significance of some of the images on the monument. It is too bad there is no "official" sign/description at the site. There is a gravel circular driveway & is easy to park & walk up to it. Would be boring for young kids.

This is a very basic Pilgrims Monument that doesn't get much attention. It is a short drive , or even walk , up a hilly neighborhood street , up from rte 3A . , in the northern part of town. It is a pretty spot , that will take 10 minutes to digest/ appreciate. As a local : I've been here a thousand times. It just conveys the "real" Pilgrims experience to me. You may be the only ones checking it out , on any given day. It's simple : It's cool. Check it out.

If you are coming on Samoset towards the coast, turn left onto Allerton. The apple maps didn't have the picture for it and we went right and saw a cute neighborhood- but no statue.
It was much bigger than I imagined. I would really recommend going to the Plymouth gift shops that have little pamphlets or postcards about the meaning of the monument and pick that up before you go. It is also a stop on an audio tour, but I'm not sure how much info it gives about the meaning of the statue.
Worth a stop over if you are going to Plymouth=)

I saw this on a history channel program and didn't realize it was in my own town. Its tucked away by the water front but once we found it we were pretty amazed. Very cool..

This impressive statue has a lot of history to reveal. However, unfortunately you need to discover the history on your own. It is disappointing that there are no history boards around the statue explaining the sections of this of this ciircular statue. Without know the full history behind the statue, one should still go take a look. It is quite an impressive statue representing our forefathers.

This giant statue is a hidden gem that I had never heard of. So if you are visiting Plymouth, be sure to go by and see it.

Whenever we have friends in town we make sure we take them here. Seems like few people know about this. We have never encountered crowds side it's a couple minute drive from the downtown area. Very impressive for all.

A great place for American history buffs as this monument really tells the story of America. It was so interesting To us my family and I spent a few hours there even in the rain.

This is a beautiful and very meaningful monument. The best way to appreciate everything this monument stands for is to go on the tour of it offered at the Jenny Museum.

It was off the beaten path...BUT...it was wonderful. Better then the rock.
Built 1889, I'm amazing how old National Monument to the Forefathers.

This was my final visiting place in Plymouth before I had to leave today.... I'm at LaGuardia now and ran out of time to include this earlier today. This statue is so tall!! I don't know how tall but I would estimate around feet?????? It's simply beautiful for a piece of art this big.... my friend told me I had to see this thing.... I did, and I'm happy to report that everyone should see this if you are ever even close to Plymouth!!!!

There's a tour available that is apparently very informative. I didn't take the tour. Instead I read up on this site and learned a lot. Do one or the other: take a tour or read up on this. It's supposed to be the largest solid granite statue in the country.

Be sure not to miss this amazing granite statue when you visit Historic Plymouth, Ma. A tribute to the first two boats that landed in Plymouth, The Mayflower and the Ann. It is inscribed with all the passenger's names and a beautiful structure. It is off the waterfront area on Allerton St.

The monument is all there is at this location. It is detailed and has a lot of detail. I read everything and usually reflect while studying and I was not here longer than 20 minutes. It’s pretty cool to see...additionally you can see the top of the monument from the middle of the harbor if you walk out on the rocks past the warf.

Takes hardly any time to visit. Not much else around. Unusal statue with the different faces and sayings.

It’s a little out of the way to drive, but worth seeing, so much details detailing their beliefs. Each side of the statue emphasizes something that in total compliment each other.

Everyone should take time to stop here as it is an outstanding granite statue honoring those who came on the Mayflower. So worth reading the names and reflecting on their bravery to come to the new world. It took them 66 days on the Mayflower and it was brutal. Many of them died and those who made it had a brutal winter ahead.

This huge granite monument is dedicated to the US forefathers, namely the English colonists who traveled with the Mayflower and disembarked in 1620.
While the monument is nice itself, it's set in a very strange location - in a residential area up the road from the shore in a side street. It's a quick 5 min visit.

This is a very impressive landmark, which towers over the local landscape, located in a residential part of Plymouth, take the time to see it, as it is a truly impressive statue.
As seen on other plaques to those who sailed on the Mayflower, it was a shame that some of the menfolk could not remember the names of their wives who took the journey with them, as they are just referred to "and wife".

This was awesome! Don’t miss it! This granite monument was beautiful. I’m surprised more people don’t know about it or visit it. We were the only ones there at the time. Each side of the monument captures the different values that the pilgrims held. The carvings are intricate and tell an amazing story.

While taking a side road around traffic I found myself suddenly driving by a very impressive monument and was wondering what it was...
My daughter and I stopped to check it out.
The monument is huge and impressive , the DCR Ranger working did a great job providing the history and put things in context.
I recommend stopping in and checking it out , it recognizes the history that built our nation

This could be done much better. It is a big monument with lots of detail but no explanation to the relevance of the detail. Should have presentation boards/handouts/website guide with sign giving web address.

Worth the walk over from waterfront. Lovely large historic statue. Plenty of parking, lovely setting. Sits up on a slight hill above harbor- can be windy.

This came as a total surprise. The monument is huge and in a park in a housing estate but worth the trip. There are a pair of ospreys nesting on top which makes it more special.

If you miss this don't worry. It was on my list of tings to visiting Plymouth and it was disappointing. I was expecting much more.

This monument was a surprise to me. I had heard of it from a local, and found my way to its location in a quiet, unassuming area away from the hub bub of town. It is massive! I later learned it is one of the largest granite statues in America (if not THE largest). In silhouette, the statue reminded me of the statue of Liberty. I later learned that Frenchmen may have studied the statue before completing the Statue of Liberty. The area was not crowded at all...my wife and I were the only people there, early afternoon on a Sunday. It is 4-sided, beautifully carved with bas relief sculptures and inscriptions honoring the ideals of early settlers, along with the names of the original Mayflower passengers. It is free, and parking was easy, right along the curb. I recommend seeing this during your visit to Plymouth.

We did not know this statue was in Plymouth until a tour guide at a museum told us. It is 81 feet tall and quite impressive to say the least. We appreciated all the names of the Mayflower passengers were engraved on it as some of them are our ancestors. This is definitely something to see in Plymouth, MA.

I have been wanting to see this in person ever since seeing it on Kirk Cameron's documentary"Monumental." It was huge and very moving. Everyone should see and know about the story behind it!

Our true history has been hidden. Thankful there are still things to see for the ones looking for truth. Monument represents our true history and what was truly sacrificed to be here.

This monument is huge and beautiful and free! We spent a cool evening looking it over and walking around it. It was great like that, but to complete the experience, go to the Jenney Interpretive Center and listen to the talk Leo does about it. It makes the experience complete!

This monument is absolutely breathtaking! Certainly a must see if you are in the area. The moment you pull up you can’t help me say “wow”.

Very impressive monument, harking back to the beginnings of our nation. Before the latest history rewrites, this used to be seen as a very important part of the historical fabric of our nation.

This was our (me and my 11 yr old son) last stop in Plymouth and in so glad we did. We got there about sunset it was just gorgeous!!! The monument was amazing, and huge! I couldn't believe we were the only ones there. It really is a must see! But do this last or you will be disappointed with seeing the Plymouth Rock and just about everything else.

Perched on the top of the hillside looking over the town the monument is imposing and dramatic. Only a short walk up from the main street and is part of the waljing tour

This is a beautiful, inspiring tribute to our forefathers. I wish it were more well known. I'm glad we found it.

This is a wonderful monument to the history of the area. Walking around this is an education in itself. A must stop on all our tours of the area.

Decided to visit on our way out of town. It is worth it to get out of your car to view the statue up close as it is about 5 stories tall!! Lots of details around all sides of it.

This fully granite monument depicting the foundations of a free society deserves more praise and attention, like Kirk Cameron did when he produced the movie Monumental which features the structure at the conclusion. Every young person in America needs to understand, and better, visit this monument to learn the 3 pillars of a successful and free society, Morality, the Law, and Education, that create the all-important 4th pillar, Liberty. Easy and quick access to the monument, up close and personal, Bring your camera and zoom in to all the words and scenes that highlight how we have created the Liberty we enjoy.

Its a great piece of artwork. But its worth 30 minutes of your time at most. Its not a must see, but if your in the area it worth seeing

This monument is a short drive from the centre of Plymouth and has plenty of space to park. We didn't find anything to do other than walk round the monument, read the inscriptions and take photos, so we were only there for 15-20mins.

it is such a humbling statue & very impressive. We always took family friends there when they visited. YOU HAve no idea of its size til you stand below it.

This a great place to get a little history. Try taking a picnic lunch and just sitting in the park. It is very quiet and peaceful.

Was a bit disappointed in this one.
The faces on the marble panels were very worn and some bad repair work made it look worse. Each large statue has two side statues for the total of twelve "morals".
The kids noticed that the female statues have no pupils in their eyes.
The grounds are okay but could be better. There is one handicapped port-a-potty which was disgusting.

A little bit off the beaten path, but very impressive. It would have been nice if there was something to tell you about the statue.

This monument is on its own just of the Main Street you just have to remember to see it after walking along the coast.

An amazing National Monument memorializing the Mayflower Pilgrims. Possibly the worlds largest solid granite monument. Worth a stop and see. No charge.

As part of Ms Vicky's tour of Plymouth, we stopped at and learned about this impressive monument.
Being an off-season weekday, we were the only ones there; which added to the impact of the experience.
Located in a neighborhood area, it's a bit off the beaten path; but it's well worth the visit.

I took my family to see this during our stay in Plymouth. It was Def worth the few minutes travel time to get there. Absolutely beautiful.

It is worth the visit to the National Monument to read names etc. It is a beautiful monument dedicated to our foremothers and forefathers, the daughters and sons who set foot in this new uncharted land.

Group #4 including a wheelchair user. I found this monument to be so heart rendering. The trials they must have suffered whilst travelling. Mainly single men, some families and couples travelled from the UK. The names of some of the travellers were interesting eg; Resolved; Peregrine; Humility; Love; Wrestling.

It was very cold and I didn't want to stay outside to long but the monument is incredible. So much detail and information on it. Definitely worth stopping to see when you are in Plymouth.

Everyone that was on the Mayflower has their name on it. They were the parents of our republic. Not many people get to visit this site.

I have seen it many times before but the weather was as great. Thanks to 80s and cool breeze, with my wife and family a picture perfect day

Best tour in Plymouth... Jenny Museum has walking tour with Leo Martin to National Monument to the Forefathers. Only one-hour, about $33. Rated #4 out of 54 attractions in Plymouth! Our family has taken this tour several times, and each and every time it reminds us of our nations founding principles, values, liberty, faith. Be awed... do this spectacular tour! How good is it? Countless visitors to Plymouth rate the Plymouth Rock as disappointing, and the National Monument to the Forefathers tour as fulfilling! Again, rated 4 out of 54 attractions! Please note that it is the Guided Tour that makes all the difference! Visitors that went on their own without a Guide saw only a Monument, did NOT learn of all mentioned above.

Every American needs to visit the National Monument to Our Forefathers to learn and understand the principles our country was founded on. This hidden gem is a sight to behold. It is completely free to visit but to enhance the experience and learn about the fundamentals of the monument in detail, go to the Jenney Interpretive Center and take the tour that Leo gives.

This is in a nice area to walk and take in nature. There is lots to do and see near by. See this in conjunction with other sites for a worth while visit.

Take a few hours to visit them all. Very nice place to feel patriotic and proud to be an American. Recognizing some of the struggles our early settlers endured.

A beautiful monument we saw at dusk and came back to take pictures at dawn. A great story...unfortunately it's like the monuments of Israel where God brought the people to the promised land and the people forgot who brought them to the dance.

After seeing other reviews I wanted to see this monument. It is an impressive work. It speaks volumes. So glad we were able to experience seeing it.

This is 216 times life size and can be seen from far away, towering over the trees. The design is similar to the Statue of Liberty.

It is a beautiful monument. I’m glad we went off the beaten path to check it out. A beautiful memorial with interesting art and symbolism.

Loved this monument with its five virtues and 81 ft. statue pointing up to the heavens.
I looked this up ahead of our trip and was aware of the virtues and the background info.
It truly is a hidden treasure.

Go see it, it is huge and impressive, tells some stories of the settling of America, it is worth stopping by.

I stumbled upon this beautiful monument by chance. Although the there are signs leading to the place, you have to pay close attention or you will miss them, they are kind of small since the monument is in a residential area.

Very moving monument. Make sure you take the time to read it. I initially just looked from the road but went back the next day to get a better picture. Glad I did because I would have missed so much.

The name was changed from a "Pilgrim" monument some time ago. It is huge. Biblical concepts are the main point here. The main statue represents Faith with her right hand pointing to Heaven. In her left hand Faith is clutching a Bible. Around Faith are statues representing Morality, Law, Education, and Liberty. We were alone when we went as it takes a little effort to get here. You need a car. Heaven and the Bible...what more do we need or want!!!

Just driving this easy drive to this magical statue is a plus in the first place, well kept up and secure for your family. A wonderful history book in real life

This was an excellent site. We had our awesome tour guide - Leo the husband- from the Jenney museum. I recommend use him as you guide. The monument was incredible and the details so incredible. Great learning experience of our country’s beginning

After visiting Plymouth Rock, this was so much more fulfilling. Great monument to our forefathers. It is off the beaten path in a residential area. I would love to live close to a monument like this.

A monument to the folks who arrived on the Mayflower. Lists all their names. Beautiful bas-relief carvings with the values of the Pilgrims.

Biggest solid granite monument in USA.
IT WAS a cold day and no one was around but we really enjoyed the grandeur of this monument. Free of course with plenty of parkings. But most of all, it is historical and great workmanship.
Not to be missed and can be a quick stop of 5 mins or 15 minutes if you want to spend the time to read the Mayflower manifest and inscriptions.
Must see! Impressive. Hot or cold day........

It is hard to imagine that such an imposing statue can be so well hidden...but it did take us awhile to find it.
So glad we did. This is a quite an impressive piece of art. The detail is great and the scale in pretty amazing.
A must shoot photo op!

I visited this attraction in plymouth after maflower and plimouth plantation.
The monument is huge and amazing and tells a major story of the American history.
The problem is that there is no guide in this place, and not even a parking place, and its too bad, cause this monument is spectacular.

This is a hidden gem and tells such a story. Leo Martin, from the Jenny Museum talks about every aspect of this beautiful monument, as relevant today as it was in the 1600s. Don’t miss it.

I contacted the Jenney Museum in Plymouth to see if I could set up a presentation of the monument's history by Leo Martin. His wife Nancy was eager to help arrange it for my group of 46 people. Leo is very well versed on our history and he shares it in a way that is very moving and enjoyable. The statue itself is a masterpiece but when you add Leo Martin's presentation with it, it goes beyond exceptional. I would highly recommend both to anyone interested in our history and the principals by which the United States was established. It's worth every penny to hear the presentation.

I visited in October 2016 on my way out to the cape. I was looking for quick, interesting, and scenic stops. I'm glad I chose this as one. It's really an impressive statue or group of statues. It's free and a little tricky to find but worth the effort.

Stopped in Plymouth on the way to Boston Logan Airport. Well worth the quick stop because of pouring rain. Would have enjoyed reading every panel on this monument. Took lots of pictures instead of each of the 4 smaller statues and each of the large panels.

The statue is huge, and so much intricate detail. Worth a stop considering what I like best, it's free! And no crowds!

This is by far the biggest statue made out of granite in the world - it is the best monument in all of the United States. Unfortunately it is a forgotten piece of history as is evidenced by the fact that it is in a neighborhood a few blocks away from downtown Plymouth. There was a movie about it a few years back too. It is so impressive!

Statue of Faith staring in the direction of Plymouth, England. Somewhat reminiscent of the Statue of Liberty but solid granite. Some what hidden in a residential area; 10 min walk uphill from waterfront. Interesting sculptures on pedestal all the way around the structure.

As big as this thing is you would think you could see it for miles, but it is hard to find. It does not take long to view it but worth the trip over to see it. It is very impressive. It is free and has lots of parking.

Was signposted to this monument by the Plymouth tourist office which highlighted the connection to this statue and the Statue of Liberty. We were also struck by the star on the monument which is also a fixture on so many homes across New England. A fascinating monument, in glorious condition, without crowds. A real treasure.

It is by no means as "sexy" as the Mayflower II or the Plantation and does not appear to get the same tourist attentionb. But I am very glad we took the time to visit. It is thoroughly a monument to the character of the Plimouth Forefathers.

Gorgeous! We should have taken the tour but this was a fast stop. It is tall and beautiful and artistic and meaningful. My husband had visited Plymouth many times and did not even know the statue was there. Loved it!

Our tour group made a stop at the Forefathers Monument. It is over 80-feet tall and really quiet impressive. The detail of the sculpture is outstanding and is a fitting tribute to our forefather who laid the ground work for this country. There is parking available and the monument can be seen from the parking area but it is an easy walk to the base of the monument. It is located on a hill just a mile or so from the Plymouth Rock Monument. If you are in the area and planning on visiting the Plymouth Rock, I urge you to take the time to visit this wonderful and impressive Monument.

Worth a walk or drive to see this beautiful monument. It is the largest freestanding granite monument in the United States. You can take the circular drive around the monument. Or, walk up the sidewalk for a closer view. Doesn’t take a few minutes and worth a visit.

Fun to read the names of the families that came over on the Mayflower. It's located on top of a hill not far from the Plymouth Rock.

The Forefather’s Monument can be seen from the distant hills of Plymouth. It is free to visit(yay). A great open area to let your little kids run around as you read the various sides of the monument which commemorates the faith of the founders.

A pretty impressive monument (for it's size) that sits above town with a view out toward the water. There isn't much there to describe the monument so you may find it helpful to read up ahead of time online if you want to understand the symbolism of it.

This impressive hunk of granite is often missed by the hundreds of thousands of visitors who descend upon Plymouth annually. Just 2 blocks up and 3 blocks over from Plymouth Rock Faith, (the lady atop the Statue) is well worth a visit. With Mayflower II in Mystic CT through 2018, a visit to the Forefathers Monument will be a highlight. Consider booking a guided tour with Leo at the Jenney Museum to fully understand all she represents. Plymouth will commemorate its 400th anniversary beginning in 2019 so boning up on this history now is a good idea. Won't all your relatives be impressed on Thanksgiving's 400th anniversary in 2021 when you have the Pilgrim and Wampanoag story under your (straining) belt.

ALthough it was kind of 'off the beaten path', we did manage to walk to it was quite amazed at the beauty of this extremely towering statue! Such a shame that the virtues and morals of bad in the day are no longer used in todays world. The inticate carvings were wonderful and so much detail was put into it.

Set up on a hillsode away from the busy town, this monument is massive and extremely well carved. Four sided with information about all the passengers who arrived on the Mayflower.

Well maintained and easily accessed monument. A must see if you are interested in learning about American history.

I saw this site on my phone as we entered Plymouth and felt up for a detour. It’s a hidden gem, with my car the only one visiting … and other people just walking their dogs. The monument includes great artistic representations of values and events. It inspired a great chat with my son.

Take a tour on this one and learn a truck load of info. A documentary called "Monument" was done on this by , I think, the history channel

If you are in the area stop and take a look at it. It's an interesting tribute to American forefathers but not worth going out of your way to see.

There is a small hill to go up to walk around this monument. You will see a similarity to another American Lady on the top. The four figures on the bottom represent morality, education, liberty, and law. The lady on top represents faith. All of these have to do with the Pilgrims journey to the new world.

Slightly out of the way, but you can drive right up to it for free! This thing is HUGE!! Lot's of fun to take pictures with a wide angled lens if you got one.

Once parked we left the car and walked around town. This was a nice walk from the waterfront. It had hills so you do want comfortable shoes. The site itself had parking. It was an interesting statue carved out of granite.

After watching Monumental starring Kirk Cameron, we decided to take our family with teens and young children on a trip from Colorado to Massachusetts before attending a wedding in Pennsylvania. We were not disappointed. This monument is one of the most important in our nation's history and our family spent much time admiring this incredible work of art. The weather was threatening due to hurricane Jose, but thankfully it only rained for a short time and we were able to put away our umbrellas and walk around the entire property. We found what may have been the original entrance/stone steps. It's a gorgeous monument and in such a quiet part of town that we thought we were on the wrong street until we kept driving up the hill and saw it in the distance. We believe many don't even know it's there. Watch the documentary before going to understand the deep meaning behind each of the corners of this monument. It has an incredibly rich story to tell.

It would be easy to miss this during a visit to Plymouth, as it takes a little hunting to find it. It's free, very impressive, and has an interesting history of its own, apart from the Pilgrims it's dedicated to.

Nice to see. Filled with meaning and messages to future generations. Need to see this monument if you are in the area.

It's hard to believe my husband and I lived in the area for several years before visiting the monument! It was an incredible surprise! In our opinion A MUST SEE!!! It's an enormous beauty and everyone we show has enjoyed seeing it from 3 - 70 years old.
Don't miss it!!!

This statue is huge! It's absolutely beautiful and I loved reading all the inscription. Such a wonderful memorial!

We did this as a drive-by while in the area. What I remember when visiting as a little kid was how it seems to pop out of nowhere and it is a huge statue. It had the same effect on me as an adult. My kids mostly debated how it must have been constructed. On a nice day you could have a picnic on the grassy lawn but other than the statue, there isn’t anything there. A ten minute diversion.

Absolutely beautiful experience! What a stunning piece to observe. It’s not far from the heart of Plymouth, maybe a 3-4 minute drive. Lots of parking. Worth the visit!

A beautiful place to pray for our country. The monument is much bigger than I thought it would be. There is plenty of free parking, not sure about a bathroom. Hubby used a port-potty there for workers. I waited to use a bathroom when we got to the waterfront. Gravel driveway and grass to the monument so not great for wheelchairs.

We were staying in Plymouth and this was part of our home made walking tour. A sunny Sunday morning....and no-one at all at the monument. An eye catching monument - which emphasises the principles on which the USA is based. Memorable - not to be missed if you are in this area.

I've been to Plymouth before and sure never remember seeing this. Apparently, it's one of those monuments that kind of got lost in history.

I've been to Plymouth many times and never saw The Forefather's Monument until I happened to stumble upon it one day cutting through a neighborhood. I was amazed and have been many times since

I live in Plymouth! I hadn't been here for a long time. The area is very well manicured and the granite statue is very majestic. It includes the names of those involved in 1620. Definately recommend. There is parking on location, but it's not too far from downtown on foot but the busy streets and uphill is not for everyone.

This beautiful and awe inspiring monument captures the character qualities and principles that the pilgrims had. It is very large and impressive. Visiting in the fall or winter gives you a bonus view of the harbor through the defoliated trees.
The only thing really missing is some interpretive signs and plackards to give the history and meaning of the monument. There are books and posters available at the Jenney Museum and at the Pilgrim Hall Museum that do just that, but hopefully they can work on that before the 400the anniversary of Plymouth in 2020.
For now, stop by one of those museums and pick up an explanation guide and visit this monument!!!

This monument gives a brief glimpse into the historical background of our founding fathers. While so much of Plymouth has gone commercial, this gem is worthwhile to help understand the beginnings of our great nation.

Interesting monument busted in the tour, I should have done more background research but it does include the names of the original pilgrims

It is majestic. Funny to find such a thing in the middle Of a residential area. Great photo opp
I don't know what else to say

This huge monument is most definitely a hidden gem in Plymouth, MA. I only heard about this place by reading about it on TripAdvisor and decided to give it a visit. It was most definitely worth it! This monument is large and impressive and perhaps (in my opinion) one of the grandest monuments in America. I'm very surprised more people don't hear about this place. Parking is ample and free and this place is easily accessible. You have to go out of your way to visit it as it's not located in the middle of the main tourist area, but it's worth your time to come here. We took many cool pictures here and spent some time walking around the monument perusing the different sections. Don't miss this place if you're ever in the area of Plymouth!

Wow! This monument is huge! It is located close to town and in a residential area. It's great to see and take pictures of.

This is a huge impressive monument worth visiting. There is no entrance fee and there is parking. Walk around it and read the inscriptions.

Driving around Plymouth, using the tourist map, we discovered this beautiful statue.
A must see in Plymouth.

This is worth seeing if you are already in Plymouth MA. It is very big and has historic value. There is a large parking lot and this event is free.

At first, I thought this was not going to be that great HOWEVER it is totally worth the stop and visit.

Most people know about the Mayflower and Plymouth Rock, but the lesser known statue should be number one in your list of things to see in Plymouth. The statue is situated on a hill near the waterfront, maybe a 15 minute walk away from the 'rock'. The area is a wide open field with a dirt/gravel drive around it. The area would be good for a picnic or to let the dog or kids run around. Low to no traffic and wide open area surrounded by trees. Take time to study up on the statue meaning and history.

This is considered a state park. The monument is huge. The park that it’s in has a dirt road that you can drive to view from your car. The park is in a neighborhood! We got lucky and found parking in front. There was only like 3 other people there.

This is a fabulous monument! It's off the beaten path a little, but it is so worth it to visit. It is a huge granite monument that is so well done. Definitely visit for yourself and be amazed!

This was a great piece of history. We did this with the tour from the Jenney Museum. They had so much knowledge on everything we saw. So it was great to do this with tour so we got a better understanding of it.

We happened to find this monument because it was listed as number one in the Plymouth things to do. We're glad we took time to find and visit it.
The monument is HUGE, beautiful, and inspiring. At 81 feet tall, it is supposedly the world's largest solid granite monument. The main character is Faith. Under her on each of four sides are seated morality, law, education, and liberty.
This is a FREE site, TripAdvisor lists it as No. 1 in Plymouth activities, and yet it seems like it gets only limited traffic. It deserves its ranking.

anytime is a goodtime to visit this monument, lived in Mass all my life and just discovered the remarkable treasure, it was worth the trip

Everybody is at Plymouth Rock, but this is only about a 5-minute drive away. We practically had the area to ourselves except for some workers who were cleaning and restoring a portion of the monument. This is more impressive than Plymouth Rock and well worth a look.

It's a must see just to view the enormous size of this monument. Faith is the name of the female statue who is pointing to Heaven. She is surrounded by 4 smaller statues; Liberty, Law, Education, and Morality. It's a dedication to the pilgrims as well as their values and principles. It's very impressive.
We basically drove around it during a guided tour. It was a beautiful day. There is grass surrounding it. There wasn't anyone walking up to it when we were there. It's meant to be a place where you can have a picnic or walk your dog. I didn't see any tables or benches, so you'll need to bring a blanket or something to sit on if you plan on staying longer. It's not a monument that is publicized too much so it was a nice detour. It's just a historical landmark that shouldn't be missed when visiting Plymouth.

This is the largest solid granite sculpture in the Western Hemisphere. Aside from the names of those who came over on the Mayflower, there is the main pedestal upon which stands the heroic figure of "Faith" with her right hand pointing toward heaven[5] and her left hand clutching the Bible. Upon the four buttresses also are seated figures emblematical of the principles upon which the Pilgrims founded their Commonwealth; counter-clockwise from the east are Morality, Law, Education, and Liberty. Each was carved from a solid block of granite, posed in the sitting position upon chairs with a high relief on either side of minor characteristics. Under "Morality" stand "Prophet" and "Evangelist"; under "Law" stand "Justice" and "Mercy"; under "Education" are "Youth" and "Wisdom"; and under "Liberty" stand "Tyranny Overthrown" and "Peace". On the face of the buttresses, beneath these figures are high reliefs in marble, representing scenes from Pilgrim history.

This monument is incredible! It is off the beaten path but absolutely worth seeing. The carvings are incredibly detailed, and the surrounding area is beautiful. I highly recommend seeing this. It's free, and there is close parking so you can stay as long as you would like.

This monument was huge and so beautiful to see.. especially around sunset time! The detail and meaning behind each section of the statue was inspiring!

This is an amazingly, huge monument.Easy to get to.Just an easy walk up a slight incline. It helped us to understand the intention behind this monument by having a tour with Leo Martin from the Jenney Museum.

It is A monument that has a lot ofstories if you google it videos all about it very interesting . I suggest watching video 1st it will help you appricate this statue much more. Took our youth group.

To see this enormous monument is well worth the walk.. Or drive there and park for free. It is in a large grassy park like environment that can be enjoyed. Maybe have a pick-nick lunch while looking up at the world's largest Granite monument! we enjoyed it and would recommend it for those people who enjoy seeing such marvels.

A definite must-see visit with or without small children. We were sure to read and explain the inscriptions on the monument to our boy. A short stroll from the main tourist street of Plymouth.

I am so thankful we made it here before dark. It towers over the lawn. Lots to read, makes a powerful statement with a few simple words.

Big monument. I didn't get out of the car. Others walked up and looked around. The panels around the figure are worn. Best use of this would be after driving a long time, stopping and letting the kids run around and spend pent up energy.

Not much to do but check out the statue, although it's a great spot to walk the dog! Good walking path and really close to town and the waterfront.

If you are in Plymouth and saw the boat and rock and had your roll and if you have a car it is worth the ride to go see. Monument to the people on the boat

This is a somewhat hidden but very impressive landmark in Plymouth. If you are in Plymouth and have an extra 30 minutes use Google Maps to find it and go have a look.

park is well kept. we walked from the hotel. nice location close to the waterfront. took a few pictures and moved on.

Expected a small monument but is huge. The four sides have a different part of Liberty. It is worth half an hour to visit. Plenty of parking.

Often overlooked, make a point to refresh what principles America was founded on and enjoy what hidden, majestic beauty once greeted visitors to Plymouth harbor. You'll be really glad you made the effort...and it's only 5 minutes away from the hoopla!

After seeing the movie "Monumental," we were thankful to incorporate a visit here during a New England trip. It's a lovely monument, and interesting to read the inscriptions, although the addition of a Pokestop did help entertain our kids for a bit. Ha!

The National Monument to the Forefathers in Plymouth is an impressive historical landmark! If you only have a few minutes to see it, you will be struck by the beauty of its statue. If you have more than a few minutes, walk around it and soak in the history that is engraved on it-it is incredible to see the names of the people on the Mayflower and seeing the images of their story in the stone. If you're in Plymouth for the history, this is a must see in my opinion!

A MUST SEE!!!
After the Mayflower, this is my MOST FAVORITE place to take visitors. Beautiful, & very inspiring statue with an awesome tribute to those people & principles that made us a great, great nation!!! 💝

This is a wonderful monument with great sculpture and with the different sides and the smaller carvings and appropriate wording this is a fitting tribute to the forefathers

Grab two minutes from your Plymouth adventure to admire and read the inscriptions on this massive statue. Entirely Worth it.

As a piece of history (until a few years ago) we never knew about. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this monument. It is an amazing (often overlooked) monument. Some quick facts.
The front panel is inscribed as follows: "National Monument to the Forefathers. Erected by a grateful people in remembrance of their labors, sacrifices and sufferings for the cause of civil and religious liberty."
The 81-foot-tall monument was commissioned by the Pilgrim Society and dedicated on August 1, 1889. It honors the ideals embraced by the pilgrims after fleeing the tyranny of English rule. There was a walking tour we would have loved to take.
It’s free to see and so worth seeing.

It is not too far from all the other attractions in Plymouth and well worth the visit. It is massive and quite a sight to behold. There is plenty of parking as well.

This monument could easily be missed( despite its size) , we were told about it by our coffee waitress.
Such an impressive monument and a must see in Plymouth MA.

The monument is huge and right in a residential neighborhood. You can easily walk to it from Plymouth Rock, although there is a bit of the hill that some people might struggle with. The only thing at the location is the monument, so you can easily see the monument in 30 minutes, but there is ample open space around the monument, so it is easy to couple a picnic or break at the same location.

It was an amazing experience to see this monument in person. So grandiose! My wife and I were both very impressed. Very historic. If you are in Plymouth, you must go see this.

A monument to the forefathers that embodies the moral code of first pilgrims. Look on all the corners not just the main figure. There is plenty of parking here but also plenty of coach trips, not always easy to get a quiet moment and reflect.

A group of seniors, along with me and my husband, were visiting Plymouth during a tour of Cape Cod. This was one of our stops along the way. What a magnificent statue!
According to available literature, “Formerly known as the Pilgrim Monument, the idea was conceived in 1820…It was completed in 1888, a 81-foot-tall granite statue built to honor the passengers of the Mayflower…she stands facing the harbor, welcoming those who come by water.
“The central figure is surrounded by four ancillary figures (Morality, Education, Law, and Liberty)…they are meant to represent the principles upon which the Pilgrims Fathers proposed to found their Commonwealth, and they illustrate how these ideals were transferred to the New World.”
It is now called The National Monument to the Forefathers. A must see and photograph.

Sitting on top of a hill. Walking tour courtesy of the Jenney Museum. Stories you won’t hear anywhere else!

It is an impressive monument, but nothing to do here. Stop, take photos, and go. Not far from seashore.

I was so glad our guide on Viator took us to see this monument. One of our fellow travelers was able to confirm that her ancestor had actually been on the Mayflower. His name was on the monument. Really cool

It was our little family of four and one other small group there during midday. Breathtaking monument, astonished more were not there taking in its significance.

The back story on this monument is worth knowing. It is nice to see women statues in the majority on this site.

Don't forget to visit the National Monument to the Forefathers when you are in Plymouth! It is super impressive and a very massive monument. Enjoyed walking around the monument while reflecting on the people that arrived in 1620.

I was not expecting to see this large of a monument. Very detailed and still in good condition. Seems out of place without any other accompanying items or statues.
Still good to see.

Recently stopped by this monument and its quite impressive in size. Near downtown. Good photo opportunity for visitors to the area. Consider picnic lunch here.

Important for our country to remember meaning behind this monument. I watched documentary by Kirk Cameron about the monument before coming here. Worth a visit!

There is so much history in this huge monument you can not even imagine. Walk around and google the history. We saw a documentary on it and had to see it in person. Gorgeous views also. Free and plenty of parking. Good picnic spot.

This was our second visit to Plymouth and missed this monument on the first trip. It was probably the most moving monument I have ever seen. The monument is a reminder of what values and principles America was built on. Would highly recommend families visit this beautiful monument.

Worth finding and getting out of the car to read and observe up close. The circular drive around the monument allows you to stop on the back side and when you walk to the monument you can get a good view of the bay. Very informative descriptions on the monument and a very quiet atmosphere for contimplation.

We visited this on a cold grey winter day that seemed to enhance the statue. As statues go it was moderately impressive. The marble reliefs are quite ornate though some bits are in need of repair. As there were no leaves on the trees we got a good view of the harbour.
What was very disappointing was the amount of dog litter all around the grass. You need to place your feet carefully. Have Americans not embraced the culture of cleaning up after their dogs? Is a dog toilet really what Americans think of a national monument?
Overall worth going to see but I wouldn’t go a long way out of my way to see it.

Significant monument off the beaten path some what. Tallest granite monument in the U.S. According to informational plaque. Good to visit while in Plymouth for some of the history.

It's a shame the foreign tourists did not do their research to learn about this beautiful monument. Granted there is no brochure, but just read the title to understand what it is all about. Took pictures at every angle to get all the details. Amazing!

It doesn't seem possible that such a gigantic monument could be hidden gem, but it is.
I first stumbled onto Allerton Street in Plymouth, not expecting the site I was about to discover. Faith as she is named, is overwhelmingly beautiful. Driving slowly around the road that encircles her, helps to really appreciate her beauty. I visit her her often. Walking closer to this magnificent Monument is a wonderful learning experience to share with friends and family. And it makes a fabulous photo especially on a blue sky day.

Plymouth is the most quaint, shop-filled, bed and breakfast type New England town you can find. The history is amazing. Sad, however, that most people in Massachusetts I met had very little respect for America, our history, basic manners, or religion thanks to the influence of Marxist schools like Harvard. I felt like I was in another country. I was glad to get back to Texas!

If you're expecting more than a statue with some open space around it, you're expecting too much. Like most statues it has a few quotes, but nothing remarkable. It might be worth a 15-20 minute walk around.

If you are a history buff this is a must see. Located on side street in a grassy park. On a nice day you could do s picnic. The statue is HUGE and you must read everything all around it. Very interesting- little kids will think it is cool because they can run around it and it’s size. Older kids who like this sort of stuff will find it interesting. You can drive to it with parking on the street.

....not from anywhere else. This beautiful granite statue, said to be a precursor to the Statue of Liberty, is virtually unknown and unseen. It is located on a residential backstreet, and does have some signage pointing you in the correct direction, and is definitely worth making the effort to find. It is up on a hill, but by reason of many houses, large apartment complexes, and large trees, is only visible from a few vantage points. I've noticed it most often when returning to Plymouth Harbor from a whale watching voyage.
If you do make the trip, you will find plenty of parking and some fairly decent signage. And she is truly lovely, so do go searching for this massive, yet paradoxically elusive beauty.

You could almost weep at the site of this momentous statue that states our roots were based in truth, justice, freedom. This is a huge statue, a hidden gem in a neighborhood near the waterfront. Don't miss this when visiting Plymouth.

Very interesting statue and well worth a visit. Most notable is the lack of eye detail on the women of the statue. Not sure if there is a significance to that, and will do some further research.
We enjoyed our visit, and returned a second time to study the statue further.

This is a must do for anyone in the area. If you're near Plymouth, it's worth it. We called the Jenny museum and set up our tour. It was cheap for the knowledge you get. Our guide was so interesting to listen to. Wealth of knowledge. The monument itself is breathtaking. If you want a true history of our country and its founders, visit this monument and schedule a tour. You won't be sorry!

With regard to the famous Plymouth Rock, the Monument presents a better example of the history of our town.

If you have not heard of this amazing Monument, do some research before going to see it. You can Google it and get good information or watch Kirk Cameron's film "Monumental". If you know the story behind the statue, it is a lot more meaningful and impressive. But definitely, a "must see" if you happen to be in the area.

This gem of a monument is easy to miss if you are not looking for it because it is located in the center of an old neighborhood. The height is massive and as soon as your eyes see it-you will know it's not just a statue. There is a sidewalk available for wheelchair or strollers but it is up a hill. It appears to be accesible at any time and there is no one manning the location-similar to a self guided tour.

What a treat to stumble onto this property. The National Park Service maintains this place in a local residential neighborhood, atop a hill. The large circular drive around the monument offerd ample parking to see the monument. the inscriptions are moving and the scupture is "better than European" quality.

National Monument to the Forefathers is a magnificent work of art. The 81-foot granite monument may be seen while approaching via car or foot. While we visited it was being power washed so we could not get too close and some of the figures were more difficult to see due to the equipment. If one is used to walking, it is not far from the Water Street Visitor Center, or a quick car ride up where there is parking. Take the time to look at all the detailed carvings.

If you have 10 minutes to fill, I highly recommend stopping for a photo op. Beautiful site and beautiful monument. Largest monument made from a single piece of granite in the states.

Set on a hill above the harbor, this monument is not one to stumble upon. It is in it's own small park in a residential neighborhood, set away from the hustle and bustle of the busy waterfront. Unless a tour bus stops by, it is a wonderful place for quiet reflection on the Plgrim founding of Plymouth. While having a car makes it easy to reach, it is quite walkable from the harbor or downtown area. Also, once you know where to look, it can be seen in the distance, keeping watch on the harbor.

Dedicated to Faith, a special 1887 monument not normally on the Plymouth Rock tour plan. Largest granite monument in the country.

Now this is an awe-inspiring monument. It's worth getting up close to and admiring! This is a must-see if you go to Plymouth

It is a really cool, very large monument at the top of a hill in Plymouth. It doesn't take an enormous amount of time to see but it is definitely something to check out while in Plymouth

Excellent monument that needs to be in DC too to remind us of our true founding. Be sure and stop by to see

The Monument to the Forefathers is actually the highlight of Plymouth being that the Mayflower is not there. This is a massive four sided Statue and is truly breathtaking. There is lots of parking and it is dog friendly and free. See this first before the Rock so you won't start your trip with the less than impressive rock

Simply stunning monument to the Forefathers, with plenty of interesting detail to read upon it, set in an open space.
There is plenty of parking and it is easy to visit.
It was much bigger than I thought it would be!

Is in a residential area but a great deal of Plymouth is residential. It is a wonderful monument to individuals who chose another path, who came here to found a great Country. We need to memorialize their choice to go to an unknown and create that which we call home today.

These monuments were ENORMOUS and on the different sides of them were lists of the Pilgrims both on the Mayflower and some from the other ships. There were also quotes from some of the Pilgrim leaders that really gave you insight into what they believed and stood for. I have Pilgrim ancestors and I found this site to be extremely meaningful -- you learn a lot of their history in a very amazing way...

This monument tells the story of our founding fathers and their true religious beliefs and how this country was founded! This is the monument that is highlighted in Kirk Cameron's movie "Monumental", and it is a very touching tribute to those founding fathers who were proud enough to stand up for their faith. If you are a Christian, this is a "must see" and a valuable opportunity to teach your children real American history!

Excellent historical narrative provided in a tour by Leo Martin of the Jenney Museum - stop there first. Our country WAS founded by men and women whose focus was freedom of religion as well as freedom from tyranny. Don't miss this!! Excellent DVD documentary on this monument - Monumental featuring Kirk Cameron.

While it has immense historical significance, it's a statue on a hill. There's nothing else really around it. Go seek it out just to see it but know its off the main area.

Had we been doing a driving holiday and saw this attraction on a road map we likely would not have bothered to stop here.
But my gosh, it is simply amazing! One of the most impressive monuments we've seen! It is gigantic even at 81 feet tall. One wonders how it was all built...from the central lady ‘Faith’ to all the scenes and smaller figures carved around the four buttresses representing the principles of Morality, Law, Education, and Liberty.
Unsurprisingly, it is listed on the National register of historic places.
This is not just a monument but a truly stunning work of art! We are glad to have made the stop here during our coach tour! We won't ever forget this sight!

We toured this site with a tour guide, Leo Martin, from the Jenny Museum. The monument was impressive, but the explanations from the tour guide made all the difference in the world for our family of four (including a 11- and 17-year old). This monument truly reflects the foundational concepts in the founding of our country.

Nice park / statue. Take the time to read the various inscriptions and note the smaller reliefs built into the sides of the 'sitting' statues that are part of the bigger one.

A great monument to those intrepid pioneers who founded the Plymoth colony. It has lots of space for the kids to run around while the adults are enjoying the view.

I have visited the monument twice now...it's truly awe-inspriring. On the back of the monument is a quote from Governor William Bradford's famous history, Of Plymouth Plantation:
"Thus out of small beginnings greater things have been produced by His hand that made all things of nothing and gives being to all things that are; and as one small candle may light a thousand, so the light here kindled hath shone unto many, yea in some sort to our whole nation; let the glorious name of Jehovah have all praise."

This is a great place that no one really comes to see. It is worth the 2 minutes off the beat and path. Its size is just amazing and its free. Make the time it is worth it.

This is a beautiful monument! and to think that it was built "by hand" all those many years ago! There is a lot of detail to this statue! And all of the Pilgrim Family names are listed along; it's awesome and worth a visit!

in an out of the way location the national monument was enormous and spectacular. well worth getting lost on our way.
As a British visitor it would have helped to have a little more information on the monument but nevertheless it was astonishing in its complexity and detail. highly recommended

This was a beautiful statue to visit. Its on a slight hill and you can drive around it and park. We were just amazed at how large it was and with all the details. Beautiful! We were first thing after breakfast and there was no one there, so got some great pictures and no charge to visit or to park.

As part of our visit to Pilgrim Memorial State Park, we went to the waterfront section to visit Plymouth Rock and the Mayflower II; and, after lunch, we visited this section of the state park that holds the National Monument to the Forefathers.
My family visited Plymouth Rock and this monument after every Thanksgiving dinner for about two decades when my family lived in a nearby city.
At over 80 feet tall, this monument is very impressive – much more so than Plymouth Rock.
As one walks around the monument, a lot of details come out.
The figure of Faith stands on the top pedestal of the monument.
Each of the four seated figures around the lower tier of the monument stands for a principle on which the Pilgrims founded Plymouth Colony ~ Morality, Law, Education, and Liberty. Details on the sides of each chair have words such as Justice, Mercy. Morality, Wisdom, etc. I hadn’t noticed these before.
The names of the passengers on the Mayflower are on one of the panels.
The monument is on the National Register of Historic Places.
We rate National Monument to the Forefathers at 5.0 and highly recommend a visit.
This is a must-see attraction in Plymouth.
If you found this review helpful, please click THANK below.

I don't understand the purpose to have such a monument in residential area. The good thing is it won't cost too much time to visit it.

We were taken by our guide to view this monument and it was a real surprise to see in this quiet environment. Really worth a visit if you are in the Plymouth area.

Why don't we Americans know about this monument!!!!! I was shocked at the history, the size and the beauty of this monument. This NEEDS to be taught in schools!!! A MUST SEE!!!!!

This monument is so moving and has such deep meaning. It really does tell the story of the people who's courage and faith our nation was founded on. I highly recommend reading the book Pilgrim Pursuit of Happiness by Leo Martin. It explains in great historical detail the meaning of each part of the monument. You won't be disappointed!

This monument is an amazingly beautiful work of art, tucked away from the Main and Court St. areas, but very close. You have to see it to understand the beauty of it.

Visited this monument several times - a true historic site of important historical significance especially in the realm of religion - why? Because the Pilgrims helped spread the name of the true God Jehovah to the western hemisphere- go check it out!

We were looking for something quick, not too far out of the way, open 24/7 and free to do in the area. We were pleasantly surprised to find National Monument to the Forefathers. It's nothing fancy, but if you're a history buff and are willing to take a few moments to read the writing on the monument, it's an inspiring tribute to the values held by the first settlers from across the pond.

This monument is away from the downtown and harbor areas of Plymouth, up in one of the housing areas. We found it with Google Maps without any trouble. It is an amazing monument not only for its massive construction, but also for what it stands for. It gives a lot of insight into our past as a country and what we were founded on.

I have been many times to Plymouth, Massachusetts and never heard of this monument. It is not in the same area as Plymouth Rock. It is a short drive away. The statue is beautiful. There are many small statues and reliefs incorporated into the large monument. It is well worth a visit.

The memorial is breathtaking. You have to find it because it is a few streets away from the other attractions. It is well worth your time.

This is the largest granite monument in the world. It was breathtaking and amazing! It is a short drive if you are staying in Plymouth or seeing other sites there. Truly amazing!

Much bigger than I imagined. Out of the town with a lot of parking and ample space to walk around. Well maintained.

We had the place all to ourselves as it a bit off the regular tourist path (along the sea front), however, the monument is an impressive and well worth a visit if passing through.

The monument is on top of the hill across the street from Plymouth Rock. There is a steep staircase but you can also walk around the side street and access it more easily via sidewalks.I enjoyed reading the names of all the early settlers that gaves their lives to establish an early colony in Massachusetts. It is a good reminder that Freedom is not free and many people were willing to risk their lives for it.

We enjoyed coming to see this Monument again. Part of our National treasures which very honored to come to see it!

The National Monument to the Forefathers sits atop a hill above Plymouth. What's most important, especially to American history buffs, is the story behind the monument and hardships our forefathers had to bear during the early days of America. Well worth the time to visit.

Amazing monument and very much enjoyed meeting Matt V who works for the Mass State Parks and answered our questions and have insight into the story behind it.

This fabulous monument is located just back from the waterfront a couple of blocks. it's impressive in size and adds more to the story of the history of Plymouth. Good spot to spread a blanket and have a picnic.

Every American shoul;d visit this monmument at least once. It is well done, is in a great setting, and gives one a persnal historical perspective.

We brought HS senior students from NK to the Monument and they were blown away by the history, ideals, imagery of this massive structure. After the tour their biggest question was, “why didn’t we know about this?”
Good question!

We visited Plymouth Rock and this place was near the downtown area. Really best place to visit. It’s a huge monument. Worth the trip!

This 81’ statue is an awesome site when you first see it. The setting is stark which makes the monument even more surprising. It is the largest solid granite monument in the U.S. and features the principles and virtues of the Pilgrims. Well worth finding in an off the beaten path!

The monument is the largest known solid granite structure in the United States, standing 81 feet in height, surrounded by a circular gravel parking lot. The structure-that stands in the middle of a mound-depicts the virtues of Faith, Morality, Education, Law and Liberty.
Standing atop the monument is a statue of Faith, a woman, with her right hand pointing to the sky. Below the statue are four seated figures-Morality- a woman, Law-a man, Education-a woman & Loberty-a man. Under each figure is a craved happening/event-Morality-possibly the Freedom of THought, Liberty-the landing of the Pilgrims, Education-signing of a document, & Law-meeting of the Native American & the Pilgrim. In between the four statues are-Monument To The Forefathrs,' Thus Out Of Small Beginning Greater Things' & Passengers Of The Mayfather.
One reviewer used the word 'Monster' and that is exactly what the structure is-a 'Moster', also impressive, informative, education & beautiful. The monument's location is withi the village of Plymouth, yet in a country sitting.
As I was walking down the walkway-made of six sided bricks- down fron the monument a large tour bus with about 30 eldely visitors disembarked, with one woman asking if I had time to take a group phot. Once the group were gathered in a line, I took two photos to make sure her smart-phone worked-it did. THe entire group al said Thank You.
If using a GPS unit, the address is 72 Allerton Street.Since the monument's height is 81 feet, there will be NO problem seeing the monument from a distance. My visit was just about 30 minutes. Since the monument is on a mound, a visitor's age or having walking differentlies, the visitor might have a problem walking up the mound. From what I viewed of the tour group, no one had any problems. Until the tour bus drove up, I was the only visitor. About 125 feet way were two porto-potties.
A visit is highly recommended.

I had no idea that this tremendous monument was here. The details and magnitude of this statue are inspiring. If you are in the area, it is well worth the trip to see this location and take the time to reflect on what it represents. Fantastic.

Missed this in past visits to Plymouth. You can drive and park right at the monument. Was cool to walk around and really big. Amazing that it was made so long ago.

As you drive up the hill, the monument appears, and you can only be in awe! I even returned to photograph the monument during sunset.

The monument is right near downtown with ample parking. There was no one actually looking at the monument when we went there, only cars parked there for the festival. It was a cool piece of history to walk around and read and see the details of such an old statue.

The monument has a circular paved drive around it that can be completed in under 6 minutes, though the road has some potholes, so drivers should exercise caution. While we didn't get a close-up look, the monument appears to be a fascinating structure that is worth visiting.

This monument is a somewhat hidden gem. The Monument has exceptional craftsmanship. Interesting. It may be worth a tour that we didn't know was available. We walked to it along the coast, through gardens up to Grist Mill and over to the statue. The information center for Plymouth will give you a map and tell you the path. Some is uphill if you walk. You can drive there but not much parking. It's just this one thing, but it is huge. All 4 sides are different. It was the highlight of our visit.

This whopping 25-metre tall monument was built in 1889 to honour the four ideals set out by the Mayflower Pilgrims - morality, law, education and liberty. Each side has a statue incorporating each ideal. It is an imposing monument worthy of those pilgrim forefathers.

This gigantic monument is dedicated to the Pilgrims who arrived on the Mayflower and is a stark yet gorgeous reminder of the sacrifices that people make in pursuit of a dream. It's a reminder that history is oftentimes created in turmoil but that there can be hope at the end of it. I was surprised that more people don't know of this magnificent monument.

It was a rainy day so we only got to drive around this massive Monument. It is just a short ways from Plymouth Rock.

Love this National monument! It is huge with all the names inscribed and readable. Its a great place to visit.

If you love history you should check this out. Has names of passengers from the mayflower. Very huge and impressive. I was glad we found it by accident when we went to find a spot to watch fireworks in Plymouth.

Really neat monument in the middle of town. Not the forefathers you think but definitely worth a drive by. Easy to find.

Got lost trying to find this but worth the trip. Not many people visiting but the monument is beautiful. The stone work is amazing. A must see.

We went at about 4pm on a Wednesday afternoon in October. We parked right in front of the Monument in the large circle drive. Probably only 3 other parties there. Took some great photos and spent probably 15 minutes reading about the monument. It's free and really nicely done.

We were told this was a precursor to the statue of liberty. It has the list of Mayflower passngers and various scenes depicted. Its a huge site so it should always be easily accessible. There are no stairs and just a lawn area around it so should be good for kids and those who can't climb stairs..

I found this monument as an extra stop in Plymouth. It was worth the time to see. It's beautiful! It's a part of US History that I'm glad we found, read all the information on the monument and have pictures to reflect back on.

We live on the south shore, but never knew about this Colossus in Plymouth. It is just beautiful! If you find yourself in Plymouth, don't pass it by. It could take your breath away!

There is a parking lot and circular drive around the monument. We enjoyed watching a youtube video about the monument before going and loved being up there in the evening with the sunset.

This is an amazing and impressive monument - 81 foot tall granite statue. Off the beaten path, but truly worth visiting.

I have lived in Plymouth for many years and didn't even know this monument existed. It is un the middle if a residential neighborhood on a hill overlooking Plymouth Harbor. Self guided. Only takes 30 minutes

A huge impressive monument. Don't hesitate to walk around it and look closely, it is interesting in all its four sides.

Yes, this monument is a site on the Plymouth "visiting" map, but I rank it an "afterthought." It is one of the least memorable locations in Plymouth. While a statement of early 20th century interest in the "Founders Story" it really offers little new to interpretation or insight into parts of the story.
I am writing a review to help area visitors who may be trying to prioritze visit plan. The excitement of Plymouth is the village site itself and those locations that are the Plymouth story---The Rock, the Ship, the museum, the cemetery, the courthouse and church as well as the modest rocky location, Plymouth's Pilgrim Hall and then the nearby interpretative center of Plimouth Plantation--these are the heart of the Plymouth visit. This particular monument is what visitors stop by to see after they have seen everything else.

Make it a point to find this huge monument, located near the downtown. A GPS will be helpful. Get out of your car and walk around. It is especially good for kids, as it is a large place for kids to run around. Not much else to see, but it is somewhat interesting and out of the way!

Beautifully done and part of a lovely town to walk around. We really enjoyed the monument and the walk around the historic town centre.

Out of town visitors loved this and other Plymouth sites on a lousy weather day..then a nice lunch on the water front...

The monument is impressive by itself, but we found that the story behind the images was better understood with the tour by Leo the Miller from the Jenney Museum. We were surprised that this monument wasn't something that we were familiar with before our visit. It is a must if you care about the historical contribution of our country's forefathers.

To think that you can see this from the ocean - honoring those who came before us. I was humbled when we stopped to see this - beautiful. You can walk here from the main street - or drive here, plenty of parking and a round about way to skirt around the city if the traffic is crazy.

Such an awesome monument dedicated to the Mayflower passengers. The statue has so many significant values inscribed on it. What an awesome way to begin.
A worthwhile 20 minute stop if in Plymouth
This monument is a distance away from downtown Plymouth but it is worth a short detour to see it. It is an imposing structure and well worth a photo stop.
There are no guides or even leaflets describing the figures and panels which is a shame but the 10-15 minutes it takes to visit are still worthwhile.
