Enjoyed the drive. However, there was a lot of construction. Stopped to see the light houses at Two Harbors and Split Rock. Was disappointed that we would have had to pay to get good looks of both but especially Split Rock. Haven’t had that experience along the costs of Maine or Oregon.

I would have given a very good experience; however, the road closures on 61 and the State park fee's to see Two Harbors and Split Rock lighthouses was a bit too much for us. We enjoyed the drive and Cross River Falls were perfect situated by the road and easy off and easy on, for parking and viewing.

We spent a day driving and sightseeing Minnesota's North Score Scenic Trail. The scenery was gorgeous on an early fall day, small towns were quaint and inviting, and the restaurants were locally owned and offered a varied fare. Beaches abound and turnoffs are frequent. Unfortunately, on the time we visited some of the Scenic Drive was closed due to road construction, but businesses and towns were still open if one wished to take short detours. We did and were glad of it!

We drive the shore every 6 months. We love to stop and sit on the beach. We have counted 10 ships before passing by. If you have the time, take the drive and stop by the little shops. Very lovely. The sunsets are amazing!

For anyone who enjoys the rugged scenery of Lake Superior, The North Shore Scenic Drive is well worth the time. We took two days (up to Grand Portage and back to Duluth) and explored The North Shore. We stayed overnight in Grand Marais (be sure and make a reservation- despite the far northern location it’s a very busy and popular place in September). There are many beautiful parks, points of interest, overlooks and hikes, much more than we could do in just a couple days, we had to pick and choose what we most wanted to see and do in the time we had. Be prepared for crowds at certain times in certain popular areas (Split Rock Lighthouse, Gooseberry Falls). We were able to avoid the crowds by returning at other times (earlier or later in the day). We plan to return again to see the things we simply didn’t have time for on our first trip.

We are on a US road trip, and stayed two nights in Duluth, so we could be in good position to do the Duluth to Grand Portage, MN North Shore Scenic Drive and back. We do not understand what others have seen as so great about this drive. All it was was an asphalt road with trees on both sides; 90% of the time, we did not see any water views. When we did get to see the water, it was pretty much enshrouded with fog, which a staff person in the Grand Portage National Monument said is not that uncommon at Lake Superior. We did stop to see the Gooseberry Falls; they were OK, but not much water volume was going over them. We saw the view of the Split Rock lighthouse, but the scenic viewpoint for it was so far away, we could not get a good photo of it. We paid the $5 parking fee to see Sugar Cove Beach; that was probably the most interesting stop, because it had a pretty trail, there’s a lot of history to the area, and it did lead to a beach. We went through towns like Beaver Bay and Grand Marais; we have much cuter towns in our home state. We had read that a backdrop of the shore is the Sawtooth Mountains; only a few times did we see anything that looked like a mountain on this drive. The rural road we live on at home is much more scenic than this drive. We were very disappointed. Perhaps in the fall, when the leaves are turning, there is a benefit to seeing mile after mile of trees along an asphalt road.

Good roads for driving. Good view of the lake. Low traffic. Nice weather. Good pie at Betty's Pies. Lots to seein a short time.

At the recommendation of our hotel we took a scenic drive along part of the North Shore. Absolutely beautiful with stunning views. Give it a try!

Great experience. I am not a very outdoorsy person, however I found a website that broke down the route and told you what to look out for at every few miles. We stopped to fill our water bottles at a road side artesian fountain, loved Split rock lighthouse (there is a charge, but it is very worth it), and hiked to various waterfalls. In about 6 hours we saw a lot (drove to and from Duluth), and only made it as far as 90 min of drive if we hadn't stopped.

Now is the time to explore the north shore along highway 61 if you are interested in beautiful fall colors and very scenic vistas.

Scenic Lake Superior drive, plenty of photo opportunities along with places to stop and explore, worth the drive up the shore

When driving North, you must take this slightly slower but more beautiful route. Pics show some of the Lake views.

We were in the area for a few days and decided to take an early morning drive...the drive is very relaxing and the sites were beautiful. Plenty of picture opportunities!

Take the scenic drive...it's worth it. Take your hiking shoes, extra water, and some snacks for energy and just spend the day exploring the lake and surrounding rivers.

The North Shore of Lake Superior is a showcase of natural beauty and breathtaking scenery. The drive north from Duluth takes you along the north shore of Lake Superior, offering stunning views of the lake, several waterfalls and excellent state parks, quaint and historic towns, a couple of pretty neat lighthouses, and always the spectacular wilderness of the North Woods. There are plenty of opportunities of outdoor activities for everyone, ranging from passive sightseeing to more active activities for the more adventurous. This beautiful drive is a hidden gem.

Wonderful and beautiful. Two Harbors is a great destination on this trip. We never get past there however and we truly enjoy the beer at Castle Danger!

Have driven this route numerous times, and it never gets old. Stop at Russ Kendall's for excellent smoked fish. Walk the cement pier near the lighhouse.

We typically like to drive up Old Hwy 61 when headed up the shore. It’s a nice relaxing drive. This time we stopped at Silver Creek to walk what once was the original highway around the cliffs instead of through them. Fun to remember the old days of driving the two lane road around and how close to the edge you came. Traffic can be crazy during holidays though with lots of people headed North. The State Parks and trails along the way are great to visit. Many free stops & short hikes to see beautiful rivers and falls.

This was a beautiful drive with outstanding views of Lake Superior. So much to see, parks, lighthouses, waterfalls, cliffs and hiking trails for everyone. Small towns along the way are fun to scope out. We stayed at Cascade Lodge which we highly recommend. Favorite spot was Grand Portage park with its mile walk to waterfall.

Headed up to Lutsen for the weekend after Labor Day. Gorgeous drive. Just wish it would’ve been a couple weeks later to see changing colors of the leaves

Well worth it but make sure you take the old hwy 61 out of Duluth. It is 0ne of the best part of the drives, rejoining the new 61 at Two Habours. Mile markers make it easy to locate and prepare for attractions.

A beautiful view of the North Shore Lighthouse! Went here one day of our honeymoon and loved every bit of it! So so pretty!

Loved it. Easy to get there. Easy to navigate the trails, even for an elderly visitor. Have young kids? stop, it is easy to get to and kids will love it too! Good family event! Worth the stop to see the falls!

I very relaxing drive along the shore with not that much traffic. Worst part was when you had to go through Two Harbors.

Drove up the North Shore Scenic Drive through Two Harbors and up to Lutsen ski resort and took the gondola ride to see the fall colors - near peak - and took pictures. Another day drove to Two Harbors for the shops and stopped by the harbor to enjoy the fall weather. Also took pictures on the Scenic Drive at French River pull off.

Very nice and Scenic Drive. I would definitely recommend to drive there instead of the highway. Amazing views of the lake.

What a great drive on Highway 61. Beautiful scenery and lots of state parks to visit. The Historical Society has a lovely museum and gift shop at the Light House and you can climb up 31 stairs to see the actual lens. Well worth a stop!

If we had known how beautiful this area was, we would have planned to spend a few days here. Gooseberry State Park is well worth the stop.

We left Friday AM 9:30 am from Duluth and made it to Grand Marias by 5:00. Stopped at Betty’s Pies for breakfast and to go pies for later. It snowed on us most of day and we hiked Olberg Mountain Loop which took about 1:15 since it was super icy in places. Gooseberry Falls was nice as was Black Beach for photos. Stayed at Best Western in Grand Marias which was so nice too end our day (ate Sven/Ole’s pizza). Off to Grand Portage SP before heading back to Indiana.

We traveled the entire route with a number of stops. Some light houses, waterfalls & hikes, Grand Portage National Monument & many beautiful coast line stops. We stayed in Two Harbor which worked well for us. One day we drove up to Grand Portage and enjoyed all up there & worked our way back. Rest of Interest were either close by us or within an hour. We spent 3 days there.

We lived in northern MN and WI for years and still enjoy driving up the North Shore. Attractions are the New Scenic Cafe, highly recommended and the smoked fish shop. Lovely in the spring, fall and summer, sometimes not easy driving in the winter.

Have been wanting to do the drive for over 20 years. Fall colors were so vibrant and the small communities so welcoming. A pleasant and relaxing way to vacation.

Really like the north shore. The drive is beautiful. The little side attractions are fun too. Always a good time.

It always concerns me, when people from Mpls/St Paul say they have never been past Two Harbors.
In June we see fields of Lupines and in the Fall the Maples are beautiful. But, that wonderful lake is always there to thrill you with its vastness and sometimes cold winds. It is also interesting when it works up a Gale in November and you can see how powerful it can be. Gods nature is wonderful to behold. Winter is great too, with ouystanding downhill and cross country skiing
And, then then there is the great food. Several great restaurants and the best donut shop are up the "shore".
You've Got To Go There!

Beautiful scenery and out takes for photos and viewing outstanding vistas. So wonderful and worth the trip . Stopped in Gooseberry Falls and at Split Rock Lighthouse. Ate at Betsy’s Pies

This drive was so beautiful. The trees, cliffs, and water were breathtaking. Lots of spots to pull over and get out to view.

Beginning in Duluth and stretching all along the coast of Lake Superior to the Canadian border, North Shore Scenic Drive is a beautiful and slow paced drive. It was especially beautiful in the fall with all the brightly colored leaves and fall scenery. Lots of places along the way to stop and enjoy the scenery.

My brother and I traveled to Grand Marais from Duluth (and back) to attend our uncle's funeral. I noticed that traveling mid-week offered much less traffic and still all of the amenities. If you must travel during peak tourism season, try going during the week to avoid the heavy weekend traffic.

This is an easy fun way to pass a couple hours, September this year was a little early for the fall colors but there is still a lot to look at and a lot of great things to stop at along the way, Hoops Brewing, Castle Danger in Two Harbors, Grand Marai

Minnesota’s North Shore Scenic Drive was simply spectacular. The drive was very calming, relaxing and beautiful to see the beautiful scenery.

We had the best day trip driving from Duluth to Grand Marais. We stopped and enjoyed several state parks, got a leisurely coffee and had pie on the return trip. The views were beautiful, and we did hikes that ranged from easy to moderately difficult. What a scenic place - we hope to return again!

As a former deckhand on Great Lakes ore boats I wanted to re-visit Two Harbors and see Split Rock and drive Hiway 61 with my wife. Loved Split Rock Lighthouse and exhibits, really first rate.
Was underwhelmed by the scenic drive, but I mostly drove and did not poke around alot. My bad. I enjoyed Two Harbors, Edna G, the lighthouse and museum.

Great short walk to the falls after findings parking spot right outside the visitors center. 11 year old from Portland in tow. Worried she'd be underwhelmed having Multnomah Falls in her back yard. She had a ball!

Was hoping for fall colors but we arrived too early in the season. Beautiful drive along Lake Superior. Made many stops along the way - my favorite: Split Rock Lighthouse and Betty’s Pies.

This gorgeous, serene drive is the perfect activity for a pleasant drive in good weather, and for stopping at various points to take pictures of the beautiful scenery. There are several state parks along this drive, so you can stop at any one (or several) of them and enjoy the great outdoors. The people here are friendly and warm!

Nice drive along the lake with a few places to pull over and enjoy the view and some businesses along the way as well !

I never tire of driving the North Shore of Lake Superior although it's finest hour is in the fall when the leaves are turning.

So very spectacular and easy to navigate with our Recreational Vehicle. The vistas are amazing and we enjoyed the North Shore Scenic Drive

Gorgeous in early June- perfect weather .
We were a family with several children , youngest 10 years old. We did hiking, picnics , fishing , tour the lighthouses, bird watching, saw loons, many native flowers, rented bikes, and played in the waterfalls. Highly recommend this beautiful trip.

So many things to stop and see along the north shore drive. Scenic over looks, light houses, breweries, beaches, shops, parks, the fun never ends!!

A trip up the North Shore in Duluth is great especially during the fall when the leaves are changing and the air is crisp. Lots to see and many places and hidden treasures along the way. Never get enough of Duluth & it’s surrounding areas.

Stopped at the agate beach, ok, stopped at the marina 19 miles up..ok. 8f you have an extra hour or 2 it is worth a drive.
Bear

Beautiful scenery and stop along a few rest stops and search for beach glass! So much fun and calming!

We love to just get in our car and take a ride up the north shore. We have lived here all our lives and still do this at least twice a year. It is an amazing place to visit.

The North Shore Drive is what keeps us coming back to Duluth! If you only have 1 day, do these: Gooseberry Falls, Split Rock lighthouse, Betty’s Pies (save time and get pie to-go), Black Beach, Grand Marais - Sven & Ole’s pizza and World’s Best Donuts; and then do go up to Grand Portage State Park for short (.5 mile or less) hike to MN’s tallest waterfall! These stops never get old!

This drive is included in the National Geographic's book "500 Outstanding Drives of A Lifetime" and deserves to be included in that. So much to see and nice little places to stop for a bite to eat.

The North Shore Scenic Drive is most likely the best scenic drive in the Midwest. There are plenty of Parks, hiking, beaches, accomodations, and great food along the drive. I highly recommend this drive to anyone who really enjoys great scenery, especially in the Fall, but it is always a great experience at any time of the year.

What a wonderful trip...drove up to Two Harbors...went on up to Gooseberry Falls which is so beautiful...then on to Splitrock Lighthouse. It was amazing and so educational..walked down to the shore and took pictures looking back at the lighthouse..and topped off our trip with a stop at Betty's Pies... awesome !!

The drive is fantastic, but we were constantly amazed that every beach looked completely different, from pink to black, from sand to pebbles, some had rock outcroppings, some had tons of driftwood, and every one was gorgeous in their own unique way.

fun to stop at the different parks & places along the way to walk around, check out the coastline & enjoy some great candy & local food.

The drive up the north shore of Lake Superior is a great way to spend some free time. The scenery is great and there are fun places to stop, eat, and stay, along the way. You can spend some time in Duluth either before or after taking this scenic drive.

There is not much to say other than it would have been a nice drive with little towns/shops, hikes, Lake Superior views, and waterfalls but the wildfire smoke took away from it. If you do not count the smoke, I would favorably recommend this.

Fabulous scenery. Wonderful state parks, lighthouses and great restaurants with remarkable views of the lake all along the Drive.

Love the north shore the scenic drive is so wonderful during the autumn. The light house and Gooseberry fall are great places to stop and take in the sites

winding along the North Shore of Lake Superior...stunning views at every turn....cabins and resorts along with restaurants featuring varios dining styles from rustic elegance of the New Senic Cafe to Emily"s cafe in Knife River to coffee at the Mocha Moose....Gifts shops and a small craft harbor to launch for fishing on the Great Lake

Traveling on the North Shore Scenic Drive was an awesome trip. You see things that you would not see if you took the interstate. It may be a long trip, but going through all the small towns where worth it. As you are traveling you still see the Lake off and on...

Go to Two Harbors, Gooseberry Falls, and Split Rock lighthouse. Great historical stories from the past. Enjoy the outdoors on these trips. On a nice, sunny day, you can't beat it.

This is my favorite scenic drive in all of Minnesota! I can actually feel myself relaxing when I get to the beautiful Lake Superior and the winding gorgeous drive around it.

The North shore is beautiful all year around but is stunning with all the colors during fall time! So many scenic pictures to take along Lake Superior. Lots of nice hotels, restaurants, hikes and things to do in the area! Great for a romantic time away or for a whole family to have lots of fun with the many activities offered along the way! It’s a must to take a weekend adventure here!

More like a seacoast than a lake. There are state parks all along the way with gorgeous waterfalls and hiking trails, beautiful lake views and phenomenal places to eat and stay. Check out the two hard rock tunnels just past Two Harbors. Split Rock lighthouse. In rough weather you may even catch sight of some hearty surfers riding the waves. Makes a great weekend trip.

It was supposed to rain the whole trip....but the sun came out and we enjoyed this drive immensely. Stop by for a meal and drink at the Scenic Cafe!

I have done this drive multiple times and I love doing it. However I do it to look at the lake. In March there is not much else to look at. Still worth it though. Actually nicer due to there being less traffic.

We had been to Split Rock and Gooseberry Falls about 20 years ago. Weather did not cooperate for us that day. Fog and rain. A lot of trees have grown up over the years and restricts the view of the lake.

There's nothing scenic about it. Children will be bored. I know this because I was bored. Twenty dollars gets you a coach seat to see a lot of trees and brick walls.
You'll spend 12 minutes just sitting on a street corner while the engine switches to the opposite side for your return trip. Absolutely nothing interesting was shared. A lot of commercials for other tours and a restaurant.
Complete waste of time and money.

Took 5 days to travel up the coast! It was perfect and provided such a variety and natural scenery to enjoy! We did state parks, waterfalls, hiking, the bear and wolf centers and finally Thunder Bay Canada!

Beautiful ride and lots of small towns to visit on the way to Canada.
We camped along the way and seen Gooseberry Falls and Split Rock Lighthouse. All a must see!

Even in a grey sky day during the peak of Fall Color - the shore line of Lake Superior is awe inspiring. The lake transforms itself daily - always vast and seems to stretch out into the distance endlessly.
The lake reflects the mood of Mother Nature, on a sunny day, calm and glass like. On a grey windy day, the waves crash up on to the shore sending cold sprays of water into the air. The lake needs to be respected as its mood can change with little notice and what was a calm enjoyable day on the water can quickly change to a frightening ride to shore! Not a day for the inexperienced boater.
Multiple stops along the drive to enjoy the lake views and MANY places to get out for a hike into the Sawtooth Mountains. Stick to the trails! Wonderful photo opportunities & picnic locations!
Take your time and enjoy nature - skip rocks on the lake, walk along the creeks feeding into Lake Superior, pick up fall leaves and experience the clear air - WONDERFUL

Probably the prettiest places in the state of Minnesota and we have many. The geological formations are amazing. We always see deer and eagles on the drive. The trees and foliage are gorgeous and the ever mystical Lake Superior is awe inspiring. This ever changing area of outstanding beauty never ceases to amaze me.

A gentle drive along a road that is mostly two-lane. We stopped en route at various places and eventually came to rest at Thomsonite Beach for 3 nights.

I would recommend this area highly. For Off Road summer use and all seasons We were in two harbors and the trails were very nice and well marked .Open to more then just Snowmobiles which is how it should be

The scenic drive is a lovely way to spend a few hours on the weekend. Go from Duluth up to Beaver Bay at least and take breaks at the scenic outlooks. Easy to follow and well marked.

this scenic drive was highly rated by AAA and it is every bit that good. make sure that you give yourself plenty of time to take it all in. two days or more would be good.

What a beautiful drive up the shore of Minnesota. Experience wonderful views of Lake Superior while listening to music in your car.

Gorgeous scenery with good roads. Take your time and don't rush so you can enjoy Mother Nature and all the beauty she offers.

The North Shore Scenic Drive never ceases to amaze me. I am always noticing new things on every visit. My most recent visit was in October to catch the fall colors before they were gone. I was not disappointed. The trees colors were filled with such brilliant reds and yellows. Add that to all the rocky cliffs, and the beautiful blue of Lake Superior, and you have a little slice of heaven. The state parks, the light houses, the many local shops and eateries make this a trip worth repeating many times.

Great ride! Lots of fun! Stop in and hop aboard! July 20-21 Festival if Steam at the Duluth Train Depot! Bring the whole family. 😊

Nice place to camp and see the sites. Pretty comparable to Northern MI, I wasn’t blown away but I wasn’t disappointed.

Absolute must if you are in the area! Be sure and stop by Betty's pies along the way and Great Lakes Candy! Be sure and allow enough time for many scenic stops.

Minnesota's North shore is a Beautiful area,, to have Trails to walk along Lake Superior is a bonus! We love Gooseberry State Park, Tettagoochie water Falls, all the small towns and the shops to stop and check out many different items

This was our first time in Minnesota, and we were really impressed with this drive. We flew into MSP, rented a car, and drove to Grand Marais. There are several waterfalls right off the road along with several hiking trails. There are lighthouses, a black beach, and a number of small towns with shops and cafes. We were also impressed with how big Lake Superior is! The drive followed the lake shore the entire way and was very pretty. A word of warning though, watch out for deer. A couple of different times during our drive, a deer ran out in front of the car. Also beware of mosquitoes if you take any of the short hikes to the waterfalls.

Beautiful views and great hiking in the state parks. It is well worth the spend to get an annual pass for $35. We went to eight state parks in seven days, and had a great time. We camped at Gooseberry, which had very nice bathrooms and was about a blocks walk from our camp site to the beach area at Lake Superior.

We were gone for 8 hours and didn't get past Split Rock Lighthouse. Take your time to explore, experience the beaches, look for driftwood and enjoy nature.

Been going to the north shore for several years now and it's absolutely breath taking, nothing like it anywhere in Minnesota.

Very nice drive. Be sure to get out at the pull-off places along the road. If your lucky you can find some pretty nice rocks. It really made me wish I had fishing rod with me.

We ran down this road for Grandma’s Marathon and it was very pretty. There is plenary of space on the road and many areas to stop and pull over to look at the lake or see rivers. There are even great trails for hiking.

Beautiful scenic ride. Only went a third of the way just had one day. The ride is easy with many places to stop look at the lake.Little towns on the way to stop and shop.Must see have fun.

North Shore Drive is easy to get to...just follow I35 north. The road is well maintained and there are many places to eat along the way. We drove north for about 20 miles.
There are several attractions to visit as well as many scenic overlooks.

Beautiful drive this time of year on our way to Canada for fishing. Lots of tourists however and busy. We take this route annually and always stop for food in Twin Harbors.

We took this route up to Gooseberry State Park. We loved the tunnels built into the rocks. The views of the lake were breathtaking.

What a beautiful drive and an excellent introduction to Minnesota. Unfortunately we didn't get to stop at Gooseberry Falls or a lot of the other state parks along the way because everything was packed. And this was on a Monday!! But we did manage to find other, less touristy, places to enjoy. We enjoyed the drive and atmosphere from Tofte to the Canadian border the most.

We drove from Duluth up to Two Harbors along the North Shore Scenic route. For much of the drive there was nature on one side and water on the other. You can stop off at several unique shops or viewing spots along the way for a picnic. It is definitely a nice leisurely activity to do on a nice, sunny day.

Super good place to go for a romantic drive or just a wonderful get away. Young ,old this is a pleasant place to visit especially during the late spring and especially the summer.

There were lots of trees blocking the water, which is what we wanted to see. Fall colors were good, but not as good as we expected.

To drive the North Shore there are many things to do. Stop at Gooseberry Falls, Split Rock Lighthouse and the many walking trails and rivers along the way. The scenery is gorgeous and the many unique gift shops and restaurants make this trip an enjoyable one. Stop in Duluth to see the aerial bridge and Coast Guard visitors center to get some history about the city, the big lake and the shipping industry. Visit Glensheen mansion to see how some of the shipping magnets lived and to learn the mystery about the owner that was murdered in the mansion. Have a great trip and enjoy it over and over again as there is always something magnificent to see.

Took the drive from Duluth to Gooseberry Falls State Park. It was a gorgeous drive on a beautiful day. Worth it if you have the time to explore!

Growing up as a kid, we always wen to the North Shore camping and exploring. It is still beautiful and in many ways has not changed over the years. We love the smoked fish shack at Knife River (a must stop for us) and all of the beautiful scenery along the coast. Can't beat it for MN!

Drive along HWY61, enjoy the rocky coast, but stop and get a good feel for it. Coming out of Duluth, there is a split to a local road, Scenic hwy, that is worth going a bit slower.

Great drive from Duluth north. We went all the way to the Canadian border. So much to do and see. Well worth your time.

We took this back from the Split Rock Lighthouse. It was a beautiful drive and no traffic! If you have a few extra minutes it is worth it.

This is a must drive! Lots of places to stop next to the shore and take pictures and enjoy the view!

This drive is very enjoyable! The scenery is beautiful and the drive is peaceful. There are many little shops to stop at on the way. You will see the ships on Lake Superior as well.

Beautiful place, beautiful views. Wonderful gardens. A great place to spend a summer's day with your family.

Took this drive in early October. Leaves were advertised as past their peak, but there was still plenty of color; yellow hues predominant in this area but there was an occasional orange tree that stood out. The drive was pretty and not very crowded, especially for a Friday. Stopped at Betty’s Pies for a great lunch and go pies to go for later. Visited Split Rock Lighthouse which had wonderful views and pleasant hikes. Then backtracked to Gooseberry Falls which by mid afternoon on a lovely fall Friday we’re understandably more populated. The trails around the Falls were well marked and beautiful (and a perfect place to enjoy our pie!)

We have made several trips to Duluth and the North Shore. It is always beautiful and inspiring. It's a crazy feeling to feel like you have an ocean view in the middle of the US!

Honestly, the scenic route has worse views than the bypass. However, to really experience the North Shore of MN you need to take the scenic route. And make sure to stop at Russ Kendall’s.

The North Shore is always amazing. Anytime of the year we have fun. The scenery is always different even at the same time of the year.

When you visit the north shore (northern Minnesota/Duluth), take a day and drive up Hwy 61. There are small towns along the way and some pull off points to sight see. There are gas stations and cafes so you can spend the day driving. Take your camera and take lots of pictures. I think a good "turning around" point is Tofte. That is a couple of hour drive and they have a couple cafes there (and a gas station) where you can stop for a bite to eat. Also a shop to pick of northwoods style gifts. But, if you want to go further - go up to Grand Marais and stay there. Besides eating pizza at the famous Sven & Ole's - the views of Lake Superior is just beautiful. Especially beautiful during fall colors!

This is a must do, make sure you slow your car down and stop at every stop you can with a camera. No where else on earth is like the beauty there

Absolutley Beautiful! We spent night in Duluth and visited the Aerial Lift bridge and lighthouses and museum. Then a stop at Split Rock Lighthouse which was awesome view and tour. A stop at Gooseberry Falls where the scenery was gorgeous. On to Grand Portage where we stayed and took the tour boat out to Isle Royal National Park. On our way back we stopped at Tettegouche State Park where we climbed up to Shovel Point. So much to do!!! A must DRIVE when you are in this area.

Drove all the way from Duluth. Very quite and great scenery! Would definitely recommend people to park along the way and enjoy the views on foot!

A scenic/cultural trip that does not disappoint. Stop for everything. Every walk is short. Every sight is "wow!" Every shop is worth the stop. The only bummer is the trip back home.

Our early morning drive north from Duluth was a pleasant experience. The beauty of nature provided for this scenic landscape adjacent to the west shore of Lake Superior.

During our Summer visit to Duluth & Northern Minnesota, we spent a day driving the North Shore Scenic Drive. We've been to many of the most beautiful spots in this country and this is as good as any! As you leave Duluth and get on Old 61 Highway, you find yourself just yards from the fantastic Lake Superior coastline. Passing by little family owned resorts and businesses and houses with an unending view! Two Harbors is the first town of size at about 3500 people. You could spend an entire day just here! The Duluth & Iron Range Depot Museum has many interesting displays about the early and present day Iron Range mining and train service and loading the ore to the huge Lake Freighters. They also have two old steam engines in great shape on property. From here you can walk down to the Agate Bay Beach and boat launch and a fantastic red brick Lighthouse with Keeper's Quarters, a small B&B and gift shop. This is the oldest working light station in Minnesota dating back to 1892. From here, you can see across the bay to a working harbor. Two Harbors still is a major loading port for Taconite ore with it's 3 huge loading bays, big enough to load the biggest 1000 foot freighters. You can also walk out on the breakwater wall right into the middle of the bay for a 360 view that is outstanding! Two Harbors also has the Castle Danger Brewery for a great lunch stop. Or continue up Old 61 just a couple miles to Betty's Pies for some great comfort food and pies just like Mama used to make....if you were lucky enough to have that kind of Mama!!
Just north of Two Harbors the shoreline goes from a more low lying coast to more of an Oregon coast with huge cliffs straight up out of the water. This transformation starts at Silver Creek Cliff Tunnel. A few miles of rising cliffs leads you to Gooseberry Falls State Park. Check out the maps at the visitor center for the hiking trails leading up the Gooseberry River to some fabulous water falls.
As you continue north, the beauty is at your right at all times and just a few more miles up the road you will come to Split Rock Lighthouse State Park. This fantastic State Park has great campgrounds, hiking trails and one of the most scenic Light Stations you will ever see, the namesake Split Rock Lighthouse! The history of this light station and it's small community of houses and buildings is some of the most important history of Lake Superior. Plan on several hours in this area walking from Pebble Beach up the steps to the lighthouse, touring the light itself and fog horn building as well as the buildings that make up a small community. And of course, have your camera ready for tons of pictures of one of the most iconic Lights in the country!
On up the highway a few more miles and you will come to Silver Bay, another working harbor where the large freighters load Iron Ore (Taconite) pellets. And about 5 miles further north, you will come to another in the long line of beautiful state parks, Tettegouche (Meeting Place) State Park. Again, fantastic hiking trails lead you to waterfalls that are a place to spend an entire afternoon just taking in the sights and sounds. We even packed a picnic lunch just for this area. The Falls of the Baptism River will make you think you are out in the Rockies, just spectacular! Palisade Head is another spectacular cliff that rises 300 feet straight up out of the cold, blue water of Superior and trails will take you right to the precipice for a view that will make you think "there is NO way that I'm in the Midwest!"
The amazing thing is that this is not even half of the entire North Shore Scenic Drive. We are already planning trips to make the rest of the trip. It would actually make a nice week to do the entire drive to the Canadian Border.

Love love love the North Shore. Our favorite place to visit. The drive is so pretty and there are plenty of state parks to stop at along the way. However, last Sunday we stopped at Gooseberry but turned right around and left. Have never seen it so crowded, but it was a nice summer weekend day and is the closest park to Two Harbors/Duluth. We continued up the shore to Split Rock for a short hike on the water which is always beautiful, scenic and there were lots less people. Unfortunately, lighthouse portion of park is closed and blocked off. Not sure if due to lack of funding or because of coronavirus (social distancing, etc.). Further north, we hiked at Tettegouche - we did longer hike uphill for spectacular view. It was a lot of upward climbing, but path consisted of steps and packed down trail. Easy to stop along way to take a break and catch breath. We returned to Gooseberry on Monday and were easily able to access the park, view the waterfalls and hike. The North Shore of Minnesota is a true gem!

The trip up to the border is relaxing and view is awesome. There are several parks on the rivers that are some of the best. Waterfalls abound.

Very gorgeous view which makes me love touring this place. Betty's Pies and Kendalls is a must stop on the trip. Kendalls sells great tasting smoked fish. Palisade and gooseberry falls park is also on the drive.

We drove from Duluth to Grand Portage, stopped at several state parks. It was one of the most beautiful drive, very close to the magnificent lake superior. The state parks were worthy to visit: they were different and with interesting points.

As someone who has lived in MN most of my life, I can vouch that Minnesota’s North Shore is one of the most scenic places to visit in MN. There are over a hundred miles of beautiful shoreline with cute shops, fun restaurants, scenic overlooks, hiking opportunities, resorts and more. You can stop as much or as little as you’d like. But be sure to take the scenic route- NOT the bypass!!

Every time we are in the area, we drive along this Hwy. The area has been special to my family for three generations. Until one reaches Two Harbors, the Hwy. is right on the lakeshore with opportunities to stop, park safely, and view the water. The Hwy. runs for almost 150 miles from Duluth to the Canadian border at Grand Portage. Gooseberry Falls, Split Rock Lighthouse, Tettegouche State Park, Temperance River State Park, Silver Bay, and the Gunflint Trail are all accessible from Hwy. 61. Betty's Pies is in Two Harbors and is worth the stop and the wait.
The roadsides, or nearby attractions are worth the time to stop, so I would suggest one allow plenty of time. After Two Harbors, the Hwy. widens, turns away from the Lake, and turns into a four-lane expressway.
In the fall, especially, the leaf peepers come out for all the beautiful colors. It's busier then, but still worth the drive.

Gorgeous! We drove it on a Saturday in the fall and the colors were lovely. Traffic was pretty light. You go through some cute little towns that have some fun and unique local places. We ended at the Split Rock Lighthouse, which was gorgeous. A lovely weekend outing!

The whole length is beautiful scenery, with so many cliffs and waterfalls and state parks. Stop at one of the many beaches to throw stones in the lake or swim, there are endless possibilities.

The views of the woods and lake are awesome and there are so many places to stop along the way and hike (some longer hikes and some shorter. I enjoy hiking the waterfalls and Split Roc Lighthouse.

Caribou Falls is a little visited hidden gem. Only
a half mile hike from the wayside and a great refreshing stop off the Superior Hiking Trail for lunch, wading or swim.

When people visit me in Duluth, I always take them up the shore on Scenic 61. Beautiful lake views, fun places to stop: Knife River for smoked fish, candy, and Emily's restaurant; New Scenic Cafe for fancy food and gardens; Two Harbors for breakwater, lighthouse; it's all good all the way up.

The North Shore Scenic Drive is a must do activity! Great way to spend a day or days. The drive is beautiful, and there's so much to do and see. Our whole family loved, especially Gooseberry Falls. On our way back to Duluth, the kids were already talking about wanting to do it again sometime. Definitely a hit with the whole family.

First of all let me say that driving this road is a must when visiting Duluth. I spent the entire day driving this path and pulling off to see waterfalls and hike various trails. The lakefront views and small towns along the way have so much charm to offer. Plan your trip beforehand- GPS is great to navigate along the way. Some waterfalls along the way are off the beaten path and require more time and strenous hiking to get to. Today my husband and I hiked the following- Gooseberry Falls (Gooseberry Falls State Park), Illgen Falls, Caribou Falls, Cross River Falls (right off 61), Hidden Falls, and Cascade Falls (Cascade River State Park). The views are amazing and some of the trails were a little icy but it was so beautiful.

Nice drive- well worth our time. Stopped at a few shops. Kendall’s smoked fish was excellent. Views were good

We took the scenic route from Duluth to Lutsen Mountain. A wonderful driving and dining experience!!

On our trip to Duluth, we drove up to Split Rock lighthouse and took the interesting tour. The foggy conditions added to the experience. We stopped in several places and the scenery was beautiful and serene.

Many people follow only the "official" scenic drive from Duluth to Two Harbors, but that's only a small part of the story. Hwy 61 is wonderfull all the way from Duluth to Grand Portage and the Canadian border. There are too many parks, waterfalls, shoreline vistas and excellent restaurants to mention, Be sure to allow time to keep driving as far north (east) from Duluth as you can because it just keeps getting better!

WE ALWAYS DO THIS GORGEOUS WALK… park at the Rose Garden up on Superior Street and walk to the Canal. Magnificent views of lake - a wonderful 3 mile round trip with a beer in the middle !

Highway 61 is a beautiful stretch of road between Duluth and Thunder Bay. Along the way are quaint little towns with delicious food (and pie). Minnesota has been very progressive over the years in creating numerous state parks along this highway. The parks are along the shore of Lake Superior and provide miles of hiking trails that are well-maintained and a joy to traverse. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our hikes in each of the state parks during our stay in Beaver Bay, and we look forward to our next visit to the North Shore.

We fell in love with Lake Superior during our visit to the Great Lakes, and taking the North Shore Drive was a highlight. Another reviewer suggested we take the old road as we left Duluth—good suggestion. We went to several places along the drive—Gooseberry Falls and Split Rock Lighthouse among them—but remember: for every mile north of Duluth, you have to drive one more mile back (unless you’re going to Canada which we didn’t, due to the need for COVID testing, etc.). If you’re lucky enough to get a good day, as we did, go early and enjoy the day. We went on a weekday, which everyone told us would be less crowded; it was!

High Falls was amazing. Beautiful pictures. Tettegouche and Gooseberry Falls State Parks were amazing. Trail systems were easily accessible. Agate Bay and lighthouse were really neat for the kids to walk out too. The little rest areas along the way were nice to get out and stretch and look for agates on the beach. Gift shops along the North Shore have anything for everyone. I got some amazing handmade Christmas ornaments.

we drove from Minneapolis to Duluth and we really enjoy sightseeing and driving. wonderful places to stop and look around

North shore of Lake Superior is a great place to tour. The scenery is awesome. We visited 6 state parks and enjoyed the hikes to see the waterfalls. The drive along the shore is amazing. Make sure to stop at Split Rock lighthouse. Lots of great mom and pop cafes. Especially enjoyed Rustic Inn cafe.

Following the road up north along the shore of the lake. Stunning scenery(and some nice houses).Roadside gift shops and local craft stores.
All worth a visit

The drive has a range of beautiful scenery There are several cool areas to stop and take pictures or go for hikes.

I had to drive up to Grand Marais for some business. I didn't want to make the drive myself even though it's a gorgeous drive. So I invited my mother along to join me and it was a perfect one night trip to take to get out of town and enjoy with a senior citizen. We stayed in a hotel in Tofte and the drive up and then drive down as always is absolutely gorgeous.

The scenery on this drive was gorgeous and Lake Superior was extraordinary. The Silver Creek Cliff scenic overlook and Great Lakes Candy shop are must stops. Highly recommend this route. We will be back in the fall to see the changing colors!

Whenever we are in Duluth we drive up the scenic north shore, stop at the Candy Shop and the scenic overlooks. Always love this experience.

There’s nothing like it.. always a new view, always refreshing, always worth the trip. And only two and a half hours from the Twin Cities. The waterfalls were roaring this past weekend in all the beautiful parks in the area. Spend a few days here and your pulse will drop and you will feel better. Minnesota’s North Shore Drive is a must see!

We were looking for nice coastal drive mines the beachy scene and found it along this northern Lake Superior area.
Staying in the Grand Marais area at the Croftville Road Inn gave us a great point to take day trips up and down the coast. Went from Kakabeca Falls in Ontario to Split Rock Lighthouse. All the little towns along the way were beautiful, interesting and unique.
We would love to come back and explore more in the fall sometime.

We drove from the Canadian border down to Duluth as part of our Lake Superior Circle Tour. The road hugs the lakeshore most of the way. So much to see along the way, so many stops, so many trails..... we didn’t have enough time to enjoy everything but that means we’re likely to return!

This was a beautiful way to see the North Shore. It was an easy drive. Good roads, varied scenery, train, ocean, forest etc. We drove all the way to Grand Portage.

We only got to drive this scenic route from Duluth to Two Harbors but it was gorgeous. Beautiful views of Lake Superior. Beautiful views of the changing leaves. Wish we had more time to follow more of the route.

For living so close to this area, I'm sorry I hadn't made more visits in the past. There is so much to see along the way from Duluth to the Canadian border. A travel visitor's guide or book is important to have since you can't see everything from Hwy. 61. We got a book from our library that had many suggestions of places to visit, which was extremely helpful. It's also important to go on a day that the weather is clear, or at least not raining, since there's a lot to see outside along the coast of Superior. We stopped along the way to Canada, then again on the way back to Wisconsin. So much to see. We will definitely go back to see things we missed on this first trip.

Question about driving north shore Lake Superior. Should my husband and I stay in Duluth all three nights, or stay one night somewhere along the drive? Recommendations?

I traveled this road from downtown Duluth two days in a row. The first day I went as far as Two Harbors, catching an ore hauler coming into dock. The second day I went to Split Rock.
The road is smooth, not crowded, with places to pull off and enjoy the scenery. Planning on heading further in the next day or two.

I love this drive on the north shore of Lake Superior! Very scenic. You can stop at certain places and walk along the lake. Look for Lake Superior Agates or other gems.

Great trip up to Silver Bay and back where we were able to all of the sights. So sad to see that Mocha moose was closed. Wonderful seeing all of the colors.

Took the scenic route up to Betty's pies and the scenery was awesome and the pie and lunch was even more awesome!!! Try the chicken dinner for a nice surprise!

Visit Grand Portage National Monument (right at the Canadian border) for a view of fur-trade life in the late 1700's. The High Falls (tallest in MN) at Grand Portage State Park, Devil's Kettle Waterfall at Judge CR Magney State Park (note, there are about 175 stairs on this trail) and the Falls Loop Trail at Gooseberry Falls State Park, are all beautiful. The Angry Trout in Grand Marais is right on the waterfront and was a great place for lunch. Check out amazing views at Wayswaugoing Bay Overlook, Palisade Head (lakeside cliffs) and Split Rock Scenic Overlook (easiest spot for a perfect lighthouse photo op, along Hwy 61) . There is so much more to see, plan on at least a few days.

One of the first places we visited in Minnesota. If you've never been there you wont believe what's waiting until you go. There are abundantly beautiful nature scenes unfolding before you...wild flowers trees of all kinds, falls large and small, pools, sunshine beaming through where it can, hiking trails. You may find the trail opening up to a marina and take a sailboat in the bay or find yourself walking carefully over the lake's flat rocks at Grand Marais. It is a magnificent venture taking you from Duluth up to Canada. This doesn't all happen in one place. Like it says, it is a "drive". You choose when to park and follow a trail. If you are a photo buff, you will come home with hundreds pictures.

Beautiful area! Toured for the first time and loved it. Areas to stop and look over the lake. Places to shop if you want to.

This is an amazing drive! The whole area is gorgeous with tons of lake views, waterfalls, and cute towns. Our favorite stops on the drive were Black Beach, Palisade Head, Cross River Falls, Grand Portage State Park, and Cascade River Stare Park. These places were beautiful and not crowded. Some of the other places we stopped at, while beautiful, were just too busy for us to really enjoy as much. There are also other roadside parks and overlooks to stop at to take in the views!

Don't be afraid to stop at every marker, every scenic spot. You never know when you might have the perfect place for that perfect shot. The sounds, the smells. The cool water. Enjoy.

Our vacation this year was planned around a trip from Duluth up to Grand Marais. So many great places to stop along the way for hiking, geocaching.. or just taking in the incredible views of the lake.

So pretty! Definitely worth the drive, stop eat Bettys pies. So good. Amazing scenery and great stops along the way

The drive into Duluth from Thunder Bay is amazing. The whole drive is basically on Lake Superior and the scenic drive is awesome. Once we were in Duluth I was please try surprised, the city itself is so beautiful and welcoming. I would recommend the drive and the city to everyone.

We enjoyed this Drive on a summer day when the weather was just right. There are many state parks for the family to enjoy, and parking is reasonably priced.

As we are staying in Duluth and going to Gooseberry Falls and Split Rock Lighthouse to name a few we decided to do the scenic drive on the way up so we could see the sights. Enjoyed the drive. On the way back we took the Hwy 61 route to catch some of the businesses along the way.

What a beautiful drive... numerous places to get out of the car and walk to the shore... plenty of spots to stop the car for awesome pictures!!! Relaxing drive... great scenery!!

We biked all of the paved bike trails up the north shore from Gooseberrry Falls to Silver Bay. It was so nice to have paved trails. Beautiful scenery!

Stop and see the views along the way! Great photo opportunities, historical markers, and quaint shops.

The North Shore drive is a must do when visiting Duluth. You can drive it up to Gooseberry Falls and Split Rock Lighthouse.

This is a nice drive, but I think there are other sections along Superior shore equally nice and less built up. It was rainy and cold the day we motorcycled her, so maybe a 5 rating on a sunnier day.

Lots of little stopping points to get out and take a picture. Or just keep driving and enjoy the scenery rolling by

Loved our trip up to Gooseberry Falls and the five mile hike. Wished the weather would have cooperated so we could have made more stops and enjoyed more of the parks along the way.

One of the prettiest drives in the country. I have driven Highway 61 from Duluth all the way to Canadian Border and the scenery combined with so many different things to do and see make this perhaps the best attraction in Minnesota. In addition, there are great places to eat like Betty's Pies along the way, so it is not just about seeing.
I came to the arrowhead of Minnesota to see two amazing National Park, Voyageurs and Isle Royale and they were great. However, the best part of my trip was the 2 days I spent on the North Shore visiting numerous state parks and enjoying the amazing scenery in Minnesota. I was absolutely blown away by the Minnesota State Parks on the North Shore. According to AllTrails you will see most of the state's top 10 parks by visiting the North Shore. My favorite are as follows:
1) Tetteqouche SP
2) Gooseberry Falls SP
3) Cascade River SP
4) Judge CR Magney SP
5) Split Rock SP
6) Grand Portage SP
Again, this was a hard ranking as all 6 are incredible. There is not a bad one in this area. I must also say that simply driving the Highway is incredible with all the wonderful wildflowers lining the road. While I spent 2 nights in Grand Marais for visiting the sights of Highway 61, you could also stay in Duluth as well if you wanted larger city amenities. The great thing about seeing it from Duluth is you can also visit the amazing sight in Wisconsin as well. Highway 61 and the Minnesota state parks along are some of the natural places to visit in all the US.

Nice quiet drive with plenty of views of the lake and places to stop and hike or take in the scenary.

Drove from Mpls. to enjoy the beautiful changes of the season, a sunny day and perfect weather. After poking around Duluth and having lunch, we drove up to two harbors and then back home. We had two friends who had lived in Duluth and have since passed away, but we have missed the awesome splendors that Duluth and it's surrounding areas possess. This day trip was rejuvenating and much needed after mknths of hunkering down at home. Thank you Duluth!

If we wanted to see a million trees, we would have stayed home as we live "in the middle of the woods" on the shores of Lake Superior. We had never been to Duluth and thought that this was a perfect opportunity to see what the city had to offer. Only about 15% of the total train ride was in view of Lake Superior. The remainder was houses and trees. The Dominoes pizza that was served was lukewarm. Needless to say, we wasted a whole day on this trip.

Great ride along the Lake ,with many cute motels and camping places and cabins for rent, lots of small shops and restaurants and Ma, and Pop shops great place to by souvenirs.

Amazing and very relaxing. Love this drive. Take your time and stop at some of the overlooks. Well worth it.

The views, hiking and waterfalls are very enjoyable and a joy to see. Beware of a few things. You may have to pay to get into the parks in order to see things (waterfalls etc). Most places to eat are closed so if you find a place open. The wait time could be hours. Pack your own food. There are a few Holiday Gas stations for food and drinks.

Minnesota has so many state parks along Hwy 61 the North Shore drive with all of them having beautiful waterfalls and scenery to see.
Duluth to Grand Portage. Stayed in Grand Marias for a couple of nights. Visited the National Monument and High Falls on Canadian Border in Grand Portage. Found we were spending most of our time at the parks and beaches around Silver Bay. So many great spots to see along the route.

We drove this scenic drive up to Tettegouche State Park and were amazed by the beautiful views. We stopped at several waysides and explored the shore, took photos and truly enjoyed the drive.

On a bright sunny day there isn't a more beautiful drive in Minnesota or the surrounding states than the drive up the North Shore of Lake Superior! There are many spots in which you can stop at places to see the lake along the way and great restaurants, etc. in which to stop and eat or wayside rests in which to picnic, etc. We do this drive at least two or three times a year!

We took the drive and went all the way from Duluth to the Canadian border. 2 days in all and well worth it. First day kept us going with hiking, eating, sightseeing. Saw a lot of day one so day two had a little less but we still missed a ton of places to stop.

Driving the North Shore Scenic Drive is definitely not to be missed. Take time to drive the slower route between Duluth and Two Harbors so you can take in small towns, great views, and wildlife. There are many places to check out nature at its best.

Take the old highway 61 on the way to split rock lighthouse. The new 61 is faster but you can’t see the beauty of the lake.

We love taking the scenic drives and this was worth it. Great views and some overlooks to stop at along the way.

This road runs closer to Lake Superior than highway. Easy to navigate and areas to pull off and enjoy the rock beaches with a picnic lunch or just to listen to the waves. There are a few resorts, shops and attractions along the way. You can always take one of the roads over to the highway if/when you want to.

Love love love this part of the North Shore. It’s one of the most stunning areas in Minnesota. Without a doubt!

Unfortunately, there was a lot of fog and cloudiness during my trip up the North Shore, which limited how much I could see out on the lake. However, the shoreline is beautiful, with lots of good places to look for rocks.

We just drove along and stopped were ever we could---beautiful. Many things to see and explore...many small bars for a quick beer and burger..----many parks with scenic overlooks. Met tons of out of state folks who were very friendly-- stayed at a ''MA & PA'' Motel in Two Harbors----just a great trip for four ole class mates.

Beautiful,a lot of places to stop and see history, lighthouses, waterfalls, giant ships, a lift bridge, ski places, breathtaking views on winding roads.

This is one of the best things to do on Minnesota! Beautiful scenery, lovely communities, friendly people. As a native Minnesotan, I take a lot of pride in this part of our state.

Spent 8 days there, and it still wasn't enough time. Drove th entire route, saw some awesome views, hiked to amazing waterfalls, watched ships come and go and so much more. Can't wait to go again, perhaps in the fall to view the fall colors.

Bottom line: if you have the opportunity... take this gorgeous drive.. take your time, stop along the way. Enjoy the fantastic scenery. If you live ANYWHERE in the area, plan to take this drive.

It's a beautiful drive and there are lots of interesting places to stop along the way. I was there in late September when the leaves were changing to fall colors.

This was my mom’s favorite area & I now understand why. Even though it wasn’t the greatest weather, i absolutely loved being there, just beautiful.

Stayed in Duluth for a week. Set aside one day to drive the North Shore. Traveled to Tettegouche State Park before returning back to Duluth. (68 miles there, 68 back). Went with a 1.5 year old and 3.5 year old and brought the dog. This was our day: Duluth, Two Harbors Lighthouse, Lakeview Park playground to let them run a bit, Creek Cliff Tunnel, Lafeyette Bluff Tunnel, Gooseberry Falls (HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!), Iona’s Pink Beach for picnic and let dog swim, Split Rock Lighthouse, Black Beach (read reviews how to get there, don’t be mislead), Palisade Head lookout, Tettegouche State Park to see High Falls. We did all this from 9am-6pm. Spent most time at Gooseberry and Tettegouche. Beautiful water falls, beautiful overlooks/views/beaches. Not something to miss. Gooseberry and black beach were the highlights if I had to choose. Enjoy! Hope you have a nice sunny day to see all the views!

We have been coming to Duluth for over a decade to play hockey tournaments. It was not until this weekend that we accidentally turned onto the Scenic Byway.
It is by far the most scenic way to get from Miller Hill back down to the historic lakeside.
Start from the top and work your way down for a winding tour that provides you with amazing views of Duluth’s skyline, hidden neighbourhoods, and UMD.

I love the North shore. Look for agates, eat smoked fish, grab a coffee and hot chocolate and make memories.

A very nice drive with lots of good safe places to pull over and take in the views. worth the drive.

Driving up the North Shore is wonderful. The little villages and scenery are well worth it. Travel up to Lutsen Mt and enjoy skiing or mountain biking.

Minnesota's North Shore Scenic Drive is definitely worth seeing at some point in your life. While I can't say it's at the top of my list with California's Pacific Coast Highway, Alaska's Seward Highway, The Apache Trail in Arizona, Colorado's Trail Ridge Road, Florida's Overseas Highway, and a few others, it does live up to it's name. I've been on similar drives along Lake Superior and Lake Michigan, and I always enjoy my time. Split Rock Lighthouse is definitely a highlight!

First, we only drove part of the Minnesota's North Shore Scenic Drive from Duluth to Two Harbors. It was nice. However, I didn't think it was an incredible as most reviews I've seen. Maybe it was the time of the year (July) when we went.
The views of Lake Superior are largely the same wherever you stop off. You can get great views of Lake Superior in Duluth.
We enjoyed the first stop off by Duluth. We got out of our car - enjoyed the weather, and tossed a few rocks into Lake Superior. All the other views of Lake Superior that we saw pretty much looked the same.
The road is good and easy to drive.
I thought the Two Harbors Lighthouse was okay.
Maybe it gets better after Two Harbors. The Split Rock Lighthouse and High Falls in Grand Portage looks nice from the pictures.

North Shore Scenic drive is very scenic, but lacking infrastructure like restaurants. Overall I enjoyed the views, but it is a long way from the Twin Cities.
Duluth on the other hand is a dirty, unsafe, terrible city to visit. The Duluth downtown on a Sunday afternoon is overrun with unsavory folk, homeless drug addicts everywhere begging tourists for money with no noticeable police or security presence!. We went to the waterfront Canal Park "tourist area" and parked right in front of a huge strip club. What kind of city allows a strip club in the center of the main tourist area, less than wholesome or family friendly for sure!! Duluth is my opinion is dirty and unsafe is gets two thumbs down for being a terrible place and for making no effort to keep tourists safe!

Most beautiful part of the country. Hike around Gooseberry Falls, drive up the coast as far as you can. It is an easy and wonderful day trip out of Duluth.

Any time of year, stop at a Dairy Queen, or a family run place for dried fish from Lake Superior. Adventure or family time.

A must see when traveling the North Shore! Many turnouts and parking areas for stopping and enjoying the beautiful Lake Superior

North Shore Drive is as scenic as you'll every find. We have driven there many times and will do it again

Don't miss a chance to spend several hours, or a day, traveling north up the shore. There are many interesting places to stop for outstanding views or historical sites to visit.

A trip to northern Minnesota is not complete without a drive along the North Shore. Miles and miles of road to drive along Superior and seeing breathtaking views.

Go
Stayed at larsmont cottages. Nice place on shore of Superior. Went to Thunder Bay, Grand Morais, Grand Portage. Great trip.

This is a lovely drive along Lake Superior. It is best on a weekday when there is less traffic. During the fall it's particularly beautiful.

We drove north from Duluth the first week of October and stayed at various locations and drove back on October 5th. The leaves had started to change but were actually better up north by Virginia and Eveleth. More red maples along with the yellow aspens and the green spruce. The weather was variable with some cold rainy days but other days were sunny and bright. Lake Superior is always an amazing view- such a variety of landscapes. The Grand Portage State Park with the High Falls near the Canadian border is a must see spot.

we drove up the north shore and and went hiking at Gooseberry Falls state park. We took two hikes there, both scenic and spent time in the visitors center.

I love driving the North Shore, especially from Two Harbors to Grand Marais. So many places to pull over and see the beautiful views. Black Beach is always beautiful, the list goes on and on.

I LOVED this drive and highly recommend this to everyone. I did the drive mid-week on a gorgeous day and realized that is the way-to-go to avoid any weekend traffic jams. What a beautiful gem we have in Lake Superior!!

There are many places to pull your vehicle off of the road to enjoy the many views of the lake and waterfalls. The state parks are very interesting and busy. Gas stations, motels, resorts, and restaurants are common but non-obtrusive.

Always love the north shore. This time we saw the pink beach and the black beach. Great scenery. Perfect weather. Not overly crowded.

Always worth the drive. Lake Superior and it’s shoreline never disappoints. Beautiful In The winter with icy decor on all the islands and shoreline.
Never take the expressway to two Harbors. Always take the scenic drive. The lake constantly inspires. And wildlife. Always deer, sometimes eagles, and occasionally moose. This trip, just deer.
Check out the waterfalls in the winter, especially gooseberry! Incredible! But wear good traction winter boots!

It is a must to see every time you go to Duluth!!
To look at the skyline and see how much it has changed. The fall is beautiful but so is Spring and summer.

Lovely drive with beautiful views. Drive North past Duluth and stop at Betty’s Pies. It is about 20 minutes away.

We only drove a short way along the scenic drive but it was beautiful. There are a number of little places along the way to stop and shop. We went in December and lots of shops are closed or will be closing for the season. We plan on going back in the summer, taking the drive to Ontario, just to sight see.

We hit the north shore about fifty miles north of Duluth and drove down the coast. The weather was horrible and visibility of the lake was minimal. But I would gladly drive 1000 miles to see it again. It’s that spectacular.

This is a must. It is a little bit of a drive but you won't notice it. We drove to split rock lighthouse. Breath taking views but rather expensive to go in. Goose berry falls is beautiful. Very nice park and great access. Multiple pull offs along the way to look out over the rocks, cliffs, and lake. Beautiful all around. Don't regret it. Kids are 6 and 12. They even had a lot of fun.

What a beautiful drive! Many places to stop along the way and enjoy the views of the lake. We saw some wildlife, and find the hikes to the lookout points to be worthwhile.

Worth the drive! It would be nice if there were more lookout points where you can pull over along the way. But it’s a lovely drive!

We were looking for photo ops and beaches to look for agates. We found that and then some. We stopped in Two Harbors at the museum and checked out the ore docks. Watched a boat leave and walked the shore looking for rocks in several places.

I love it , if you have not been there , you are missing a lot
You will not get disappointed.
Enjoy the drive and plenty of things to visit

The drive north out of Duluth is worth the trip even with no specific destination! The views of Lake Superior and the boreal forest are fantastic.

There is no other drive anywhere to rival this drive with vistas, parks, waterfalls, and great dining.

Since I was a kid I’ve probably been up and down the north shore about 30 times and it never fails to impress.
I only hope I can see it another 30 times.

One of the singularly most beautiful drives in the US. Stop and visit rivers, waterfalls and cliffs. Views are delightful. When the leaves are changing the excitement cranks up even higher. Enjoy!

This drive is a great one to take if you have some extra time while up north in MN. It starts in Duluth and ends in Grand Portage. Just outside of Duluth, you can opt to take the expressway to Two Harbors, but if you have time, you should stick to the scenic route. It’s just different and let’s you continue to appreciate the beauty of the region. The whole drive is amazing, but one of my favorite parts is from Hovland to Grand Portage. I can’t even describe the awe and amazement I feel!
If you do drive the whole thing or just part, coming back, you get an entirely different perspective with the lake at your left and let me tell you, any different angle or view is just as breathtaking as all the others. You’d think that it would get boring after a while....trees and a lake. But, it doesn’t disappoint. There are many shops and cool, little towns along the drive, such as Lutsen and Grand Mariais..... and there can often be wildlife spotted, including bears, deer, fox, bald eagles and more.
There are also several MN State parks along the drive and they are all fantastic, in their own ways. I love Gooseberry Falls State Park, Cascade State Park and Judge Magney State Park. The Superior Hikig Trail is also accessed at several points along this drive or just off of it.
Check it out if you haven’t...you will not be disappointed. And if you don’t have time to cruise the whole thing, any part of it will leave you longing for MORE of MN’s North Shore!

My wife was born in Duluth and spent much of her childhood on the North Shore, so this is like coming home to us. Each time we drive up 61 towards Grand Marais from Duluth, regardless of the weather or any other distractions, it fills us with contentment, It's the lake...what more could you want?

Beautiful scenic drive with loads of stops along the way with very cool things to see. We loved Gooseberry Falls the most. Split Rock was nice and Glensheen mansion was worht the stop. Teh drive up to the top of Palisade was great - awesome view. On the downside, the traffic was just awful!

Every time my Husband I head for the North shore we always take the Scenic Drive.
It is so beautiful, so peaceful. There are places to stop along the way if you enjoy hiking or being so to the water. sometimes you see ships coming or going. 6 months ago, we went in March. It was so beautiful to see the changes on the water. Next week we are heading back up to the North Shore, and the leaves should be at its peak. Again, we will take the Scenic Drive. It is slower, but it is so worth it.

I have been this way hundreds of times. My Grand Parents lived in Grand Marais and I was born there. No, brainer...take that route!

This drive is absolutely worth it! Be sure to stop at the little restaurants and shops along the way. Our favourite was the candy shop in Knife River. We also enjoyed visiting Two Harbors. The area is stunning in the fall.

Great chance to get lots of different views of Lake Superior. Can drive this at your leisure and enjoy the many interesting stops along the drive

Enjoyed the drive and short walk to waterfalls along the way. Gooseberry was pretty crowded on a Friday in July.

Beautiful drive along the world's largest fresh-water lake. Fall foliage was wonderful, inspiring, restful and photographic. Many places to stop and enjoy.

Great views of the lake.
Plenty of historic stops and scenic overlooks on the way. We were up there for the leaf color changes, Fantastic

This will never disappoint. The water splashing on the frozen beach was a sight to see. Winter in Duluth is amazing

We always love visiting the Arrow Head region of Minnesota. The state parks are wonderful, especially Split Rock Lighthouse. We also enjoyed Glensheen in Duluth. All in all it is good time, a variety of things to see and do.

Considered one of the top Scenic Byways in America, the drive up the North Shore of Lake Superior is a great way to spend a day. There are quaint towns, Lighthouses for those of us that love lighthouses, nice restaurants, waterfalls, trails and more. The scenery is beautiful and there are lots of points of interest along the way

Driving through Haleʻiwa, Waimea, and Sunset Beach on the North Shore is one of the most scenic and enjoyable experiences on Oʻahu. The contrast between the relaxed surf towns, massive winter waves, and stunning coastlines creates an unforgettable day. Perfect for photos, beach walks, and soaking in authentic island energy.

We did part of this drive on a late Saturday afternoon. We went about an hour-and-a-half and turned back. There are several small towns along the route, and of course stops for lighthouses, hiking, picnicking, etc. Be sure to take the smaller highway that actually follows the curving shoreline of the lake, and not the highway a few miles over (North Shore Drive not HighWay 61).

If you have never been to the North Shore you are missing an amazing area. And be sure to stop at Betty's Pies!! Their food and pies are incredible !!

The lake is amazing and there are a lot of fun little towns to hit on the way. Don’t miss Gooseberry Falls!

We really enjoyed our trip up the Northshore. We stopped at Two Harbors to see the lighthouse and museum. We ate at Betty’s Pies, yum. Hiked to Gooseberry Falls. Toured Split Rock Lighthouse. Stayed at Grand Marais, very pleasant. Then rode gondola up the mountain at Lutsen and hiked to Cascade Falls. We really enjoyed Cascade Falls. We recommend the drive highly but bring warm clothes!

Truly picturesque, there are so many little nooks and crannies along the way that need to be explored. You can stop at any numerous pull outs and have a private beach to yourselves. Just don't expect white sandy beaches (this is the rocky north shore people). Whether it's by vehicle, motorcycle or bicycle the journey is well worth it. Most of the drive has ample shoulders or designated bike paths to keep the cyclists safe.

We spent 5 days driving and hiking the state parks along the North Shore in early October to enjoy the fall colors. It’s a beautiful drive, even if you only pull over to the side to take photos.

I decided to take the kids I to nature for the 4th because we love the big water and trees (not much of this where we live in ND). My kids are 16 and 10 and they were happy to do the drive along the North Shore because it was picturesque. We did t know that there is an expressway that skirts some of the shore drive so we wanted to stay along the shore but then ran I to bridge construction at French River and got detoured to the expressway.
We passed thru Two Rivers and notes that it is a quaint town with so many amenities. We got off the main road and went down to see where the ships come into this harbor (none there at the time).
We continued on to our destination which was Gooseberry Falls at the state park. I was surprised to see how many vehicles were there. As soon as you turn off the highway they were parked along the road and the parking lots were jammed packed! You had to circle the lot a couple of times to find parking. I should mention that you can hike to the falls and park for free in the area where the visitors center is. There is a guard station further into the parking for the campground and beach. But we were there to hike the path to the falls (which is paved) and take a dip/swim in the 3 falls (where they have posted signs that say swimming NOT recommended). It was fabulous and refreshing and my kids spend hours enjoying the cool waters!
We then proceeded on to Black Beach about 12 miles up the North Shore and spent a few hours on that beach which was also very busy. We had to park at least a 1/2 mile from the beach area. It is a neat beach with tiny black rocks/sand that gets warm/hot to bare feet in really hot weather (it was 91) when we were there. There are comfort stations at the parking lots for your use. The beach offered some picnic tables and some for pits for barbecues. The water gets deep quickly but didn’t drop off in the area we were. There were people climbing the rocks and cliff jumping in the distance. After the beach, we went to Grand Superior Lodge grill for dinner and enjoyed the beautiful views overlooking the lake. Food was average but service was good.
After dinner, we headed back to Two Harbors to see the Edgar B. Speer come into unload. What a treat it was to see this ship up close. The harbor there is great for ship watching. It has a nice sidewalk and benches and picnic tables. You can also walk out on the pier to get a close up experience with the freighters. We were there at night and got to see the boat as well as the 4th of July fireworks! Just a superb night as we had stopped at the DQ and gotten ice cream to enjoy while we celebrated this beautiful country!

While this is a lovely drive with lots of water and flora, I don't see why people think these fall colors are so amazing. I've seen better.

What an absolutely beautiful drive! We loved this drive so much, we did it twice. The 2nd time, we drove it from Duluth all the way to the Canada border.
We had some beautiful weather, so we put the top down on the Mustang and just basically hopped off wherever we felt like. We visited a couple beaches, some waterfalls, lighthouses, small towns, and of course some great restaurants.
The highlight, though, was the gorgeous views of Lake Superior all along the drive. We also enjoyed the amazing scent of pine throughout the drive. This drive has it all… beaches, mountains, forests, quaint towns, etc. It’s kind of the Midwest version of the Pacific Coast Highway.
We’ve done roadtrips all over the US and this was definitely one of our favorites. If you get a chance to do it in a convertible with the top down, it just enhances the experience even more. Highly recommend!

A wonderful place to see in all seasons. Many places to stay the night or weekend. Or just eat and hike.

Old time train ride along the shore of Lake Superior (the largest freshwater lake in the world). Nice, slow ride. Beautiful scenery. Attentive staff.

The drive was very pretty, but there were parts under construction so weren’t able to see all of it. Gooseberry falls was a lot of fun to hike around. We brought food for a picnic lunch and really enjoyed it. Because of Covid the split rock lighthouse wasn’t allowing anyone into the lighthouse but was still charging a fee so we didn’t go since we had just as good views from some of the overlooks. We stopped at Betty’s pies for pie on our way back to Duluth and it was a great stop! A lot of fun little towns to stop in as you want.

We had never been to Thunder Bay, Canada and decided to make the drive there via the North Shore Drive. The best part of the trip was the Minnesota North Shore Scenic Drive. The views were awesome and the villages were fun. We would not bother leaving the USA however -- Thunder Bay was a huge disappointment.

stunning views. you just don't feel like you are in the U.S. when driving this road.
take the trip you'll thank yourself later.

Drive North toward Two Harbors and take the scenic highway. Slower than the expressway but worth it for the views. Try the smoked fish from Russ Kendall's in Knife River.

Just awesome! We loved everything about this beautiful place. We are thinking of renting a house on the lake next year. The wild roses where in bloom … the whole place was permeated with the most amazing perfume. Loved all the rocks!

I had been several years since I had been up to the north shore and our friends from Missouri had never been there it was as neat as I had remembered and our friends were blown away as they had never seen anything like it. Two harbors and the taconite trains gooseberry falls split rock lighthouse lutsen and Gran Maria were all highlights for them. They couldn’t get enough of the lake. We went on to the iron range taking the back roads. Lunch at Giants Ridge overlooking the golf course was neat. On to Hibbing and a visit to the Hull mine overlook was impressive for our friends and us as well. Was a excellent way to close our north shore visit.
A visit to Tobie’s bakery in Hinkley on our way home was a sweet way to end our visit up north.

This is a must do if you visit Duluth, MN! There are places to stop so pictures can be taken and views be enjoyed.

I have been going to the North Shore for years. The early fall weather is the best anywhere. The drive up the shore is one that needs to be done twice, once in the daytime to enjoy the scenery and once in the early morning hours to see the sun come up over the lake.

We spent two days driving the scenic old Hwy 61. There are so many interesting stops along the way. We started in Duluth and drove 100 miles short of being in Canada . Lake superior had so many interesting colors during the day ranging from a misty morning, to a teal blue as evening approached. We spend a great deal of time at Gooseberry falls. Lots of hiking trails and picture perfect falls.

The north shore of Minnesota provides a beautiful frame for majestic Lake Superior. As the highway winds along the shoreline you will have breathtaking glimpses of rocky cliffs and windswept trees. Well worth taking a road trip.

Many things to do and see. Very peaceful. People are warm and welcoming. Beautiful scenery. So many dog friendly locations. Lots of walkable places. Very chill vibes. I felt very at home in Duluth!

Always amazing. My best advice is think of it as the journey not the destination. Don't over plan and do allow plenty of time. Know that the State Parks here are numerous, well marked, beautifully maintained, and usually built near some stunning feature to hike to (usually a waterfall or overlook). In addition there are numerous pull offs, park when you need a stretch or see a view you want to take in. The only one that is not well marked that you should make sure not to miss is Palisade Head where you can drive to the top for a stunning, and largely accessible view (before Tettegouche).
Definitely take Old 61 from Duluth to Two Harbors (stream Bob Dylan Hwy 61 revisited to set the mood). If you are coming from out of state, spend a day in Duluth (home of Dylan), maybe overnighting in Canal Park. Duluth's architecture is older and more beautiful than you'd expect due to it being accessible via water before roads got that far and wealth generated from that at one time. You could also spend a night in Grand Marais (beautiful harbor town) up the shore. It has a campground in town and shops/cafes. If you really want the Minnesota experience, overnight in campgrounds or cabins in between. You will probably be shocked at how little litter there is. Minnesotans love their outdoors and keeping it beautiful is not an afterthought here.

A drive along the North Shore when the leaves are in full autumn color is a trip that should be on everyone's bucket list. Scenic, great lodging, and a good selection of quality dining places all the way from Duluth to Grand Portage. Just be sure to make reservations prior to your trip.

We are driving across the USA and we’re spending the night in Duluth, so we detoured and did the scenic drive. We’re nice scenic drive with many many pull outs, fantastic place for a picnic!
Great seeing the beautiful homes on the lake shore.
Worth the time .

This highway in Duluth is named after Bob Dylan. The iconic, nobel prize winning singer. It is a most beautiful ride along the northern shore of the biggest lake of the 5 Great Lakes -- Lake Superior. There are so many things to do and see it is overwhelming. Beautiful.

Made this drive from Duluth to Grand Portage many, many times. Many times and stops in between. I do annual camping on the North Shore. This year was in May. So beautiful and serene, if you seek out the right places.

Such a beautiful place, a place that actually exists in real life and not only when I am dreaming.
We are going to retire there in the future.

Such a stunning drive. The north shore is beautiful, filled with waterfalls, walking and bike trails , little shops and restaurants and of course the incredible split rock lighthouse! Love this drive!

We only got to drive a short distance of this scenic drive (Duluth up to Gooseberry Falls and back) and just from that little taste, I'm definitely coming back to drive the whole thing. Gorgeous.

Pretty views and interesting stops along the way. Some our favorites were black sand beach, pebble beach, split rock lighthouse(although closed) the views just south of it were amazing. We pushed all the way to the Canadian border and worked our way back towards Duluth. Cascade River Falls Park was one of our favorites. Worth crossing 61 to find a little remote area right on Lake Superior. We hung out there in the crashing waves longer than anywhere else. The further north you go, the less crowded the trails, waterfalls and beaches are. And not to be missed, stop at Betty’s Pies. We stopped once for only pie and again another time for lunch and pie. The burgers and chicken fingers were as good as the pie.

We always love taking the North Shore Scenic drive along Lake Superior when we come for a vacation in Duluth, MN. Plenty of little Mom & Pop restaurants along the drive. Take time to stop at the State Park along the route.

Beautiful; many places to stop and take photos. We went when the weather was sunny. I recommend this drive.

This a great drive on a sunny day. There are several park/beaches where you can stop, but several only had pit toilets. The small towns along the way have some nice places to stop. The state parks in the area are beautiful and worth a visit.

What a wonderful trip the wife and I had taking a full 5 days to explore this beautiful country of northern Minnesota. The vistas and mini hikes. state parks, waterfalls, etc are wonderful Route 61 is well worth the time all the way to the Canadian border where Minnesota's largest waterfall is

How is it to have taken this drive so many times and still not tire of it the sign of a good scenic drive to be sure

We loved everything we did along Highway 61. We flew from Alabama to Minneapolis, drove our rental car to Duluth and spent a night there (loved Duluth), then drove to Silver Bay and spent three nights there as we toured up and down the North Shore before heading to Ely. We stopped at most of the state parks along Highway 61 and did easy/moderate day hikes to waterfalls and scenic Lake Superior views. Don’t miss Tettegouche and Grand Portage state parks as well as Grand Portage National Monument. Gooseberry Falls and Cascade River state parks are good too. We also did the Keeper’s Tour at Split Rock Lighthouse (buy tickets online ahead of time) and enjoyed that. And we stopped at multiple lake overlooks including Palisade Head, Father Baraga’s Cross, and Susie Islands. The good places to eat that we found were Betty’s Pies in Two Harbors, Coho Café & Bakery in Tofte, and Cascade Lodge Pub & Restaurant in Lutsen. Before the trip I had ordered the paperback “North Shore–Duluth: A Photo Tour of Northeastern Minnesota” by David Barthel and found it useful in planning ahead so we didn’t miss anything.

Be sure to hit the North Shore for some beautiful views! Stay at Fitzger's in a waterfront room and you won't be disappointed!

Very cool local views. If you have nothing better to do with the kiddos, take em for a drive along the lake!

We did this drive on a Sunday., leaving early afternoon out of Duluth. Minimal traffic, plenty of places to pull over and really beautiful scenery. Definitely take the scenic road that runs along the shoreline. It literally ends at the 61 so easy enough to continue on. Stopped at French River to walk to beach and look for agates. Two Harbors had a great gift shop called Wellon's - look for the big white chicken out front! We went up as far as Split Rock to see the lighthouse. You can't see the lighthouse from the Visitor Center and we paid $12 each to go see it and walk around the grounds. If you want to actually go inside the lighthouse they do have a tour for that as well. Very nice gift shop at the visitor center, clean bathrooms inside and a water bottle fill station. Stopped on the way back to see Gooseberry Falls. Pretty easy hike on all paved trails. Lake Superior is much prettier once you get north of Duluth harbor. The coastline reminds me of New England coastline in some areas. It was an easy drive, a very relaxing day and absolutely worth your time. You drive through 2 large tunnels that have been cut into the hillsides if you go up this far.

Drove the scenic route with a camper, which wasn’t the best road to drive but it had beautiful views of the lake along the way!

Highway 61 Scenic Dr. We did the scenic drive on a Saturday afternoon in December and though it was cloudy it was lovely to see Lake superior driving up the rugged Coast. We stopped at a few really cute places one for lunch and then after for coffee. Everyone was very friendly and down to earth there were several festivals going on which stop traffic or slowed it down a little bit but it was OK it was for Christmas

We’ve been on this road many times. Beautiful views and beaches. Good restaurants and shops along the way.

In St. Paul area for wedding and had a few extra days before event. Decided to go to Duluth taking the North Shore Drive as far as the Split Rock Lighthouse. Lovely drive stopping along the way at Gooseberry Falls, several scenic outlooks, and Betty's Pies (a must). Wonderful weather in the 60's during the day. Want to go back and spend time at one of the several inns and do much more exploring. Be sure and bring your passport if going to the Canadian side. Round trip more than 400 miles from St. Paul.

I lived in Duluth MN for a year and do not like snow at all but, the North Shore Scenic Drive in winter, spring, summer, or fall is beautiful! The scenery I have no words for it was so beautiful. I also love the people that I encountered on the way. Minnesota people are truly Minnesota nice!

The views were amazing and nice pullover areas to take plenty of photographs. Even made it up to Enger Tower, but didn't do all the steps.
Canal Park
This is a mandatory stop. Always a beautiful place to visit no matter what season of the year. Love going to Duluth!
