Beautiful scenic lookout situated above the Pali on the Koolau mountains. The prevailing tradewinds gain momentum coming up the shear cliff faces making for a fun overlook. Especially when surface winds are already 15 plus mph. Take the time to read the plaques as there is a lot of historical significance to this location. King Kamehameha marched soldiers off the cliff in a battle that would eventually unite the islands into 1 kingdom. The Old Pali road has changed from footpath to horse and buggy to Model A's
before it was replaced with the current highway. If after you've enjoyed the amazing views and read about the history you still have time for a hike, go around the path closed sign on the east side and walk on the Old Pali road to smell yellow ginger and see beautiful dry waterfall chutes. This road eventually hooks up with a 10 mile trail finishing in Waimonalo. Paid parking for visitors. Free for locals.

The views are great here just like in many places in Oahu. Some places like Makapu lookout have even better views in my opinion. However this place has something that none of the other have. Incredibly exhilarating wind gusts that blow you back. I saw many families with little kids who were having an exceptional amount of fun. I will definitely be stopping here on my next trip to Oahu.

If you are venturing out from town or Waikiki to windward side using the Pali plan a five minute stop at tge Pali lookout it won't disappoint. Park and hit the two level lookout. Great photo spot.

Beautiful views with history. Our "Tours by Locals" guide told us the wind can be pretty strong at the top. And it was!

Popularly known for its howly and strong winds. This paradise has the safest forest in the world. No scorpions and no snakes. Even dogs here are rabbies-free. I love Hawaii very much, this is also the very first U.S state I have visited.

Very unusual not windy like it normally is, when you pay for parking pass the ticket on the next person that comes that part is a rip off, but views are phenomenal

This stop had the most hilarious signs of the entire trip. No really, beware of bees in high wind. Also this falling rock sign is next to quite a large pile of fallen rocks.

Beautiful and right off the highway. We chanced on this location and decided to take a look. It's about 5 minutes once you arrive. Costs $3 to park...

This is a great overlook to see the west side of the island from on top of the ridge. Parking cost you $5 so for that price it is expensive since you are there about 15 or 20 minutes.

Beautiful lookout with almost 360 degree views around the island. Well worth the visit and even the drive up there is nice through the forests.

It was an incredibly windy day, but we wanted to see what the hype was about. Everyone was right. You cannot beat this outlook. Beautiful views of the island even when super windy =)

Great place for a view of the east side of the island and to get some history of O'ahu and the importance of the Pali pass.
If the weather is really socked in - there will be not much to see. Often it's raining in parts of the mountains but you can still get a good view from the lookout.
Great photo ops.
Be prepared and expect wind. Sometimes a lot of it.
Parking is a fee and there are a lot of people watching to make sure you pay.

I've been here once 11 years ago so on this trip to O'ahu, I decided to take my husband since he had never been before. It's a nice lookout but parking will set you back $7 if you are not kama'aina (local). Kind of wish I had taken my sister's (the local) driver's license just so we could have parked for free! It's not that much in the grand scheme of things but you're really only up there for 15 to 20 minutes max to snap a few pictures. It's not somewhere you'd go hang out, especially since it's so windy up there.
Also, don't worry if the lot is full when you arrive. Like I said, people don't spend a lot of time up here, so somebody is always leaving. There’s also only one meter so if you get there at the wrong time, you could end up waiting quite a bit to pay. I also entered the wrong license plate number but luckily, the parking attendant said it was fine. I would have been annoyed if I had to pay again and end up paying $14 for this.
Bottom line - nice view but nothing jaw-dropping or spectacular. I mean you're in Hawaii - there are plenty of other/better views.

It is definitely a beautiful view but to pay almost $8 to park for a few minutes is absurd. There were two officers just sitting in a truck waiting for someone to ship payment. We found beautiful views at the nearby botanical gardens and the whole park was free.

Nu’uanu Pali does offer a great view but looking back, I would have been OK to skip it.
Parking fee is $7.xx. Not really worth the cost for this site.

The view is magnificent. Learning the history of the area through the wonderful signage really helps to explain the view and the park. I also enjoyed reading the information about the original Pali Road which runs just below the main observation area. It is windy there.

Beautiful views! It's just a lookout spot with nothing else to do, no bathrooms either, and parking is $3, but the view definitely makes up for what it's lacking! 😉 Please help keep these places beautiful by taking out what you bring in!

Sensational view but having to pay $7.78 US to park for 3 minutes is a blatant rip-off!
You walk up, look at the view, say gee it’s windy here and get back in your car.
Honestly, if you don’t all have to go at the same time, leave someone at your car and take turns.

You can either drive or walk up there. We chose the easy way. This is our must go location. The view is so gorgeous, rain or shine.

The drive to the lookout point is scenic, but doesn't prepare you for the beauty at the top! Easy access for those with mobility issues to get an amazing view of the city. Very windy, so hold on to your hat! We were with an excellent guide who pointed out what we were seeing (places we had stopped prior to our ascent). Well worth the drive!

The Nuʻuanu Pali Lookout offers a breathtaking overview of the city and the surrounding landscapes, making it a must-visit destination in Oʻahu. When we arrived, a light rain added an ethereal touch to the already stunning view, with mist rolling over the cliffs and enhancing the lush greenery below. Although parking is available, spaces are limited, so arriving early is recommended. Adding a touch of charm to the experience, chickens freely roam the parking lot, seemingly unbothered by the bustling cars around them.
Beyond its beauty, the Nuʻuanu Pali Lookout is steeped in history and culture. This location was the site of the famous Battle of Nuʻuanu in 1795, where King Kamehameha I achieved a decisive victory, uniting the Hawaiian Islands under one rule. The name “Pali” means “cliff” in Hawaiian, and the sheer drop at the lookout serves as a striking reminder of the island’s rugged natural beauty. The area also holds cultural significance for Native Hawaiians, symbolizing both triumph and the forces of nature that have shaped the islands for centuries.
Nuʻuanu Pali Lookout is also rich in local legends and myths, deeply intertwined with Hawaiian culture. One prominent legend is that of the **Moʻo Wāhine**, a lizard goddess who appears as a beautiful woman, luring men to their demise from the cliffs. Another tale involves **night marchers**, spirits of ancient warriors said to march along the Pali, accompanied by the sounds of drums and conch shells. Encountering them is considered dangerous, and locals advise laying low to avoid their gaze.
For those interested in those legends the following site provides more information Nu’uanu Pali Lookout – The Sacred Cliff of Gods and Warriors in Oahu, Hawaii – Residual Whispers

The first time we drove up to the view point, it was pouring even though about 10-20 miles away it was sunny and nice. So we tried the next day and the views were definitely worth the second attempt. We only stayed for about 20 minutes but it was great to see all the way to the ocean from the view point without having to do any hiking and we stopped along the way to make the trip worth it.

I've never seen anything like this view. Yes, the car park is expensive for the amount of time it takes to see this view, but I would pay it every time. The wind is an added sensory bonus! Absolutely powerful and incredible. My youngest wasn't at all bothered with this place, but my 12-yr-old thought it was stunning.

A very scenic overlook. The gap in the ridgeline makes this a natural wind tunnel, so there are very strong winds.

The Pali Lookout is one of the better reasons to take the Pali Highway to Kailua. Cost a few $ to park but we’ll worth it.

The views are stunning and the history of the spot is historical. There is a large paved walkway so it is very whellchair excusable. There are no formal bathrooms but there are port-a-pottys. Very much worth the stop.

It only takes about 10 minutes to admire the lovely view. But the car park cost is $3 which is ridiculous. Only place we had to pay for parking.
In my opinion, not worth the trek to see if you are self driving.

It's right off the H1. If it's rainy though like on the day we went just a few weeks ago it is foggy once rain clears and kind of ruins the photos and view a bit but still nice. Just 3 bucks to park, not a whole log of parking though. We took baby in stroller no issues. It's just a lookout not a hike of any kind. It's on the way to the windward beaches

pali lookout even more stunning and beautiful views, such a great place to stop and wonder. I just loved seeing the chooks running everywhere.

We stopped here on the circle island tour. It was a windy, overcast day. As a result the views were not at their best & the wind was very strong where the lookout is exposed.
On a clear day the views would be spectacular so try to pick a good day if you have a choice (rather than being on a pre-booked tour).

The view from this scenic point is not to be missed. It is incredible how windy it is there, though! We noticed many visitors with scarves held aloft to allow cameras to capture just how windy it really was.
Parking is $3, and not plentiful but if you are just patient, you will have a spot pretty quickly.
Don’t be surprised if you hear roosters crowing here. We saw a number of chickens (and chicks) around the parking lot.

This was included on our cruise ship excursion.
The views from here are great. There are 2 lookout points......one close to the parking area and the 2nd a little further away. Do go to both.
It can be windy up there, but wasn't too bad on the day we went.

This was an amazing overlook and the plaques around with the history on it were a great addition. However, I do not agree that you need 1-2 hrs to visit this site. 30 mins to an hour and you will have taken all the pictures you can thank of. Then it’s time to get out of those high winds and probably rain or mist. 100% worth the visit though

The Pali lookout offers a spectacular view of the windward side of the island. Famed for where King Kamehameha disposed of Polynesian invaders marching them of the cliffs, the drive up and over the Pali offers great views.

I live on MAUI, visiting with my mother and Aunt (who lives here) the woman monitoring the parking lot is yelling “KAAMAAINA??” at us and everyone else demanding ID. Neither my mom or I had ID on us, so we just left. Ruined our experience.

First of all the views is lovely. Another thing I could go back . Also it is free to get inn
. Lastly, just stay a few minutes or so.

The Nu'uanu Pali lookout provides a breathtaking view of south Oahu. It captures the urban-ness and greenness of the islands and blue-ness of the oceans beyond in a perfect blend and is indeed a sight to see. There is paid parking at the lookout and from what I read online, it seems that this is enforced. The drive up to the lookout, especially from the North Shore side, is quite scenic. We got to see the non-tourist part of Oahu on this drive from the North Shore side. It is a short walk along a paved road from the parking lot to the viewing area of the lookout. Beware - it does get very windy at the top of the Nu'uanu Pali lookout. But the superb view of the mountains and the Kane'ohe Bay are worth making the trip. There are a few informative plaques placed here, which give information about different topics including plant species native to the Hawaiian Islands, construction of the Pali highway and also the Hawaiian cultures.
It is a serene way to spend some time, with beautiful drives leading to the way up and some enticing views atop the lookout.

Is worth the couple dollars to park, the view is stunning and all the wild chickens and chicks awesome. We went on a hike on the old trail that has overgrown however has amazing views to be had about 15min on the old road.

This lookout is absolutely breathtaking, i stumbled upon it online and decided to go, I am so glad i did!!!! The views are amazing, it is very windy but beautiful!

The most stunning view of the windward side of the island. Learned the history of the place before visiting which brought the scene to life.
We visited in the late afternoon when the crowds were light. There was no parking fee charged.

We were on our way back to our resort and saw the sign for the look out. The view is amazing and some interesting history to read about. We were all glad we stopped. It was extremely windy when we visited, but still great to see.

Tourists are surprised by the amount of wind and rain when they get to the look out. It is a beautiful view of the "aina" (island) but it is very windy and children under 3 should be watched carefully....they are just too light...yep it's that windy...

Following the posted sign, from the Pali Highway, on the ocean side, a steep and narrow drive takes you to the parking lot. A few minutes by foot will take you to the actual lookout offering a broad panorama of the Southern part of Oahu. Quite amazing views, it is well worth stopping for an hour.

Won’t take you more than 10 minutes to check this out. You can only imagine being one of the unfortunate souls forced over the cliff many years ago.
It’s a great vista, and gives you a beautiful view of the east side o the island.

The experience itself was fabulous! The views are amazing and reading the story boards never gets old. We have been many times, BUT the woman working was very rude and yelled at us from across the parking lot. She assumed (incorrectly) that we had not paid and was yelling at us and accused us of being rude when we simply said we had followed directions, paid and left the receipt on the dash. We had already paid our $7.73 and placed the receipt in the window so it was off putting that she yelled at us and accused us of trying to take advantage, and not pay and being rude when it was herself who was quite rude in how she yelled at, wrongly assumed and treated us. We have visited many times and have never been treated in such a manner. We appreciate the story and the views, but this visit left a bad taste for future visits alone or with family. Seemed she had worked too many hours and needed a break from people on that moment and we were sadly her target.

The ride up here is even majestic! The lookout is vast and you can see for miles. There are plaques on display describing the battles that united the islands and the stories behind it. Hawaii has a very interesting history and this attraction is a must.
The resident chickens and cats living amoungst each other is adorable. Be advised to bring a light jacket as it is extremely windy because of the elevation.
The lookout is very serene - a must see!

This is a scenic excursion that won’t take you too long and is not really out of the way to get there ... please make the trek! It is a small parking fee $3.00 then a short walk up to the overlook that will take your breath away on a clear day. It is the location that the Great Kamehameha fought and won organizing the Hawaiian islands and becoming its first Chief. Enjoy!

It's one of the best places to view the Hawaiian landscape against the backdrop of ocean and high cliffs. Short drive from Waikiki.

My 3rd time on the island, and I can’t believe I had never been here before. The view was amazing!! Don’t miss it!

If you drive on the Pali Highway between Honolulu and Kailua, be sure to stop by the Nuuanu Pali Overlook. There’s a modest fee but it’s worth it. Before you at the overlook, you will have a gorgeous panoramic view of the windward side of Oahu between the Chinaman’s Hat island and Kailua’s beaches. A postcard keepsake view. But, if you visit on a windy day, watch your hat and keep a hold of little children. Wow, is it windy! It was quite a thrill the first time we visited. The next time we dropped by, it was fairly calm.

Be sure you have cash to park. Its not pricey but none of the things I read about visiting mentioned it so don't be caught unable to stop because you can't pay to park. Amazing views from here! What is nice too is that there is a map showing you what you are looking at. It can be quite windy here so be prepared. I brought a hat to help control my long hair but almost lost it. The view is worth it! Be sure to add this to your list of stops when driving around the island!

On your tour around beautiful Oahu, this is a must stop to soak up one of the best views on the island. Couple of bucks to park but worth the price of admission.
There is a lot of ancient history associated with this spot so google it on the drive up.It will give you a better perspective of it's importance.

This is by far one of the most memorable places we visited, next to Pearl Harbor and the PunchBowl. Take a minute to read up on this historic site and when you visit you will not be disappointed. The winds on this hill are crazy fast! Ladies, better bundle that hair up! Gentlemen, don't bother with a hat or sunglasses, you will just lose them here! :-) Whoosh and it's gone!

Fantastic views. Beware as they charge $3 for parking. It is free for locals or military. It is windy and could be chilly if raining.

We love the Pali lookout...the times we have pulled over here it has been crisp and cool, the view is amazing, windward side.
Pay to park at the kiosk. $3-, no fee for residents of Hawaii. 1200 feet elevation.

Remarkable stop between Honolulu and Kaneohe. It was super windy when we were there, but it was well worth spending some time to take in the remarkable views. We even wound up buying a print of the view at a later stop during the day.

Absolutely beautiful. Thanks to the other reviewers for giving me a head's up about the wind. Yep, tie down your hat. Even on a lightly foggy day, this was a worthwhile trip.

This is a very short stop with a great overlook of the eastern shore of Oahu. Takes at max 20-30 minutes to enjoy the view, and read the history of the location.
We tried to stop here to watch the sunrise, but the rain covered it all week. It is very windy and there is a $3 parking fee. It appeared there was an employee monitoring people who were paying.
There are wild chickens in the parking lot area.

Very short but beautiful lookout, very windy. $7 parking at kiosk but don’t bother paying. 15 minutes max. No walking trail. Porta potties.

I'd been here about fifteen years ago and I remember thinking it was pretty impressive then but the day had been overcast and so it wasn't really the best time to go.
This time it was sunny and clear and really showed off the scenery well. It _is_ very windy so take care with hats (we saw a lost ball cap on the ground while we were there) and the like.
Beautiful place to take pictures.
You do have to pay to park but it's a minimal fee and it goes to the area's upkeep so I think that's reasonable.
Only issue we had was when you exit the parking lot you can't turn left to head back down the highway toward Honolulu, you've got to turn right and head down into the Windward Side and we had wanted to head back into town so getting turned around again was easier said than done as several highways all meet there once you get on the other side of the mountain. I'd recommend you make this stop if you can while doing circle drive of the island going counter clockwise so you don't run into that issue.

We stopped her for 15 minutes - about as long as it takes to see and do everything there is. The view is nice and it is fun to feel the wind, but it is not worth the $7 we paid for parking. By the time I waited in line to pay the fee, my family was done and ready to get back in the car. If it were free, I would stay stop, but for $7 it is not worth it. Views and wind are free all over the island.

Unless someone in the group has Kamaaina ID it will cost $1.00 to park a car. Need dollars, cash only. Nevertheless the view...the experience is worth nearly double the cost. Don't wear a hat.....too much wind.

Extremely windy spot up the Pali Hwy only 5 miles NE of Honolulu. Definitely worth a stop. Usually very windy. If you wear a hat, make sure to hold it if you want to keep it.

Beautiful scenic overlook! We made a quick stop on the way from Honolulu to Lanikai. Wasn’t part of our plan but couldn’t resist when we saw the sign. Easy parking and very friendly and helpful parks employee on sight to help if needed. A short walk from the parking lot to the overlook, no steps so ADA friendly. The view is absolutely stunning! You can see all the way to the Mokes!

To be found as the Kalanianaole Hwy cuts through the Pali Mountain range and becomes the majestic Pali Hwy, this lookout offers stunning views over south Oahu. The green mountains and rolling lawns flow into the turquoise sea and from this vantage point you can well imagine how volcanic activity created the hills and craters that form this amazing Island. The ridge itself was formed as the side of a crater fell into the valley below and the history of Hawaiian unification tells the story of how 800 warriors, enemies of King Kamehameha I, were forced off the cliff at this very spot.
Spend as little or as much time as you like here soaking in the atmosphere but make sure you read the stories to be found on signs around the grounds. There's even a story about how an international soaring record was set here in 1931. A plaque dedicated to this record can be found on the lower level of the lookout.
There's limited parking but people are always coming and going so be patient and you should be able to grab a spot. We were there mid morning on the Labor Day public holiday and managed to get a space easily but as we were leaving, it was filling up.

The drive is spectacular and then you reach the summit. On a clear day it really is breathtaking
Many cars and buses along the way but traffic is manageable and view is with the effort.

I am so happy i got to come here with the family. This place is truly spectacular. It was very windy but still the view overlooking Honolulu was amazing. I felt like i was up in the clouds. I really do feel blessed to have experienced this place.

We stopped at the lookout while touring Honolulu on the Waikiki Trolley/red line. We were there for about 10 minutes- all that was needed to see the awesome view. It was really windy (don’t wear a dress!)

Very windy is an understatement ! The view was outstanding. Did I say it was windy!! Even though it was in the 80s down by the water the wind chill, did I say it was windy, was quite chilly! Well worth the stop.

Of course all views in Hawaii are beautiful but this place has a view and more to it. The wind blows hard here and if you want to cool off from the beach, here’s your place. Also read all the information that’s there it’s very interesting. In my opinion a must see.

An easy drive and not too far to walk to see some truly amazing views.
It *is* pretty windy though and I wish I had tied my long hair back as it went all over the place! Having said that it was lovely to cool down while we were here.

Stopped here via the Waikiki Trolley on the way to the Bishop Museum. Beautiful views of the windward side of the island. It is windy so make sure to hang on to your had. Bring a camera as the views are picture perfect.

I searched for somewhere with a good view other than Tantalus Hill and found this place. It was windy, but the view was really good. You have to rent a car or do some kind of tour to get here. I was awakened when I saw tourists climbing over fences into the off-limits area. Let's stick to the rules.

This was an unexpected stop but we are so glad we found it. You will need to pay for parking and it is extremely windy. The lookout is high about the valley but you can use the signs to determine what everything is. Stop here before continuing elsewhere so that you know about the other areas when driving through.

Great view but for $7 really Hawaii
Tired of the ripping off of tourist at every corner.
Go but maybe skip if you can the areas not needed

Cliff and outlook area on O’ahu. It was quite cloudy when we were here but definitely worth the drive. Wild chickens are also rummaging through this area. Posters with explanation about flora and fauna and the area are also available.

The Pali look out is really worth the quick stop. The views of the island of Oahu are stunning. Extreme mountain cliffs and views of coastline all the way to Kaneohe!

Great views from this lookout. Recommend not wearing a dress since it is very windy and can be a bit cold even on a hot day.

The highway construction is nearly completion, so the Pali Lookout reopened on Nov. 4. Iit is open during daylight hours.

The lookout offers a panoramic view the northeast coast of O'ahu. Plan on pictures of mountains, the ocean, and highway tunnels. Historic markers commemorate the site where hundreds of O'ahu warriors were forced to their deaths off the cliff, during the Battle of Nuʻuanu (1795), by Kamehameha's forces.

The Pali lookout is one of those things you will miss if you are not looking for it. It's right off of Highway 61 between Honolulu and Kailua. The walk to the lookout point is maybe 500 feet from the parking lot, so everyone can enjoy it. It was really windy the day we went, so just be aware of that. There is a $3 parking fee, but it is free if you are military or native Hawaiian. The view towards the north side of the island is beautiful and is a great photo opportunity.

A beam of light came horizontally from the mountain. Not sure what was happening, but was extremely privledged to witness it!

Short walk from parking area (yes $3) to the lookout. It is a breathtaking view and if you don’t have a firm grasp on your hat or any other loose clothing, the wind will take it too. Worth the stop if you’re going that way.

We drove up to the Pali Lookout which is easy to find and get to form either direction on Highway 61. On the down side they expect you to pay $3 for parking and the place is swarming with people. Still a great view if the clouds over Kaneohe lift.

Loved this venue! Super windy day and lots of bees. Great history lesson that’s self directed. Beautiful scenic overlook! Definitely a must see.

This lookout was part of an Eco tour we did and it was breathtaking! I definitely recommend seeing! This history behind this lookout is amazing as well.

The views were well worth the $3 parking fee. It was interesting to read the history of the pathway too. It's a must stop if you're driving by you won't be able to get that photo from your car. There are wild chickens there too!

It was very windy the day we were there, so we didn't stay long, but the view was amazing.
Only worth going to if you're going to stay a while, since parking is expensive.

We went there for the day, to look out at the lookout. We traveled through the tunnel and up the mountain to the lookout point. We looked out at the valley below. and we looked at the mountain and how many people died in the process of making the lookout. The view was clear and crispy. The day was clear and sunny and clear.

We took the Red Line Waikiki Trolley to this site a ruff ride road needs some work done on it , but well worth a little discomfort.
The views from lookout nothing short of spectacular a must to visit.

This place has a great view, this was our second time to there. Weather was super, clear and sunny with just a slight breeze.

Really beautiful lookout a short drive from Honolulu. A must see when in the area. the panoramic view is amazing. Yes there was a plice car there and a fee to park there. but look at it as a small fee for a photo that will be amazing.

A long and winding road to the top allows many chances to view the city, ocean and Punch Bowl Cemetery from high above. The viewpoint is constantly changing on the way both up and down.

Totally cool look out point. Apparently you can see the island from the opening sequence from Gilligan's Island here. It's a nice spot to get a good view and there is a plaque that describes the various points of interest to observe.

Parking is now $3.00
The view of the windward side is so spectacular. A must see every time you go. The view and the history are worth it.

Multiple landslides have closed the road to the Pali Lookout. The state estimates it will take several months to re-open all lanes of traffic. As of Feb. 21, they are counter flowing traffic. So from 5-9 a.m. only traffic to Honolulu will be allowed and from 3-9 only traffic to Kaneohe/Kailua will be allowed. The Hawaii Department of Transportation website provides updates.

I was here July 2017 and boy was it windy. And i mean seriously windy, i almost lost my sweater! I came here as a part of a circle island tour and i dont believe we paid any parking fees but other reviewers are saying otherwise. You wont spend that much time here so i wouldnt make a day trip out of it, but i think its worth the stop if youre nearby.

Easily accessible. It is only a short walk from the parking lot to the lookout. Don't expect a calm day- it will be windy

The view is different from other lookout points. For this one, we can see a long highway, and the clubhouse of a golf course with the clubhouse's roof all covered with solar panels.
There are signs that help explain what happened at this area which adds to the aura, in effect making it more than just a mere viewing deck.
We went up one side of the road, and after spending time at this lookout point, we continued and exited at the other side of the road which goes out into the highway.

Besides having gorgeous views of Oahu, this site is also historically linked to the Battle of Nuuanu between Kalanikupule and Kamehameha over control of the island. Kalanikupule was overwhelmed by cannon power and legend has it that 400 of his soldiers went over the cliff.

The Pali Lookout provides amazing views of the windward side of Oahu. That is the less congested part of Oahu although the development appears to be coming. Taking the Pali Highway from Honolulu to the windward side saves driving around the traffic-congested North and South Shores. The North Shore drive is worse. The South Shore drive provides beautiful, dramatic views of the now non-active lava flows to the sea. Recommend all three drives if you have the time.

Drive to the lookout for great panoramic views of Kaneohe and it's Bay. You will have to pay $3 to park here, which seems a bit steep for the quick stop you will make. It is however worth it for the view. It can be very windy and cool here!

It was my second visit to Hawaii and it’s a must for me to feel its fresh strong tradewinds. The view is splendid and panoramic. Just 15 minutes away from Waikiki. Parking rates apply but just wait there, someone will handover their coupon to you but why can’t you pay a bit to support the locals economy. I must come again to Pali Lookout!

There was a $3 parking cost, but the views were amazing. Went on a windy day - and it's even windy up there. But the views say it all, worth a stop on your trip!

One day we drove around to see the Island and we finally came to this lookout after taking scenic Nu'uanu Pali Drive. It's a short stop and a $3 charge for a state park. This is by far one of the most memorable places we visited
This lookout in the mountains is cool, lush green, and very windy. There is a lot of ancient history associated with this spot. Same is depicted on playcard (The history of the battle for Hawaii). Another play card indicates various places around and we enjoyed identifying them with help of picture.
A 15-20 minute stop Nu'uanu Pali lookout won't disappoint.

Had to stop to check out this lookout and was stunned by how picturesque the view is from the lookout. Must stop and check it out.

The views from the lookout are fabulous. Nearly the entire east side of Oahu is visible and the view of the cloud and mountains crest unique photo opportunities. Worth a stop.

We were prepared for it to be really windy here, but we must have lucked out. The day we visited there was just a gentle breeze and spectacular vistas. We even got to witness a marriage proposal! We visited with a young local couple who were flying a drone and said the lack of wind was unusual. Easily accessible for my father- in- law using his walker. Parking lot gets busy.

When I was a child, the only way to go from Honolulu to Kailua was via the Pali. It was amazing then and it is still now. The history of the battle between the Hawaiians and the Oahuans adds so much to the site and its impact on the local history.

The view is spectacular and it's a very simple walk from the parking lot. It does cost to park but it's not too much.

Great views from this lookout. We drove from Honolulu to Kailua and made a stop here which was definitely worth it.

A Great place for awesome views. Free parking and access. There are some trails that go off on to some other great views as well.

It’s a beautiful view, but NOT worth an $8 parking fee money grab! Short easy walk maybe 1/4 mile from the parking lot. For $8, you would think they would at least invest in bathrooms, filthy portable potties are embarrassing for a State park😳 Then again they probably put as much thought into their parks as they do their homeless problems. Other than the view, nothing else here🙁

You can drive up very close to it and within few minutes walk have his lookout with an amazing view. It was warm but very windy in that area so possibly have a jacket with you.
Parking for military is free, all others are like 2$ or something. Beautiful!

My wife and I along with another couple recently visited Honolulu on a cruise vacation. While there, we rented a car and drove around the island. We visited the Nu’uanu Pali Lookout. The views are amazing. We got some outstanding photos of the area below. It was quite windy and the weather was a bit overcast, but it didn’t detract from the great views. This place should be a definite destination and we would recommend it highly.

Easy drive from Waikiki, on nice highway. Then easy walk from the ( paid) car park. Gorgeous views, a bit windy on the day we went.

Driving up to the overlook is an interesting drive and as you climb farther up the highway the view is even more impressing. Ya gotta go!

It’s a amazing lookout. That said, it’s just a lookout with nothing to “do”, or buy. Someone said you have to pay for parking which is weird since you are only going to be there for 10-15 minutes. There a few informational “placards” to read with interesting info on Hawaiian history.
VictorB

The view was great from this lookout spot, just be aware that it is $7 to park just to spend a few minutes looking and taking photos. Not saying it's not worth it...just FYI.

If you are driving the Pali Highway, for any reason, and have not stopped at the Nu‘uanu Pali Lookout, you have to make the time in your schedule to do so. the views - and high winds, are fantastic.

Terrific views and great photo ops. Super windy! Definite stop in your road trip around the island! Short, easy, paved walk to get to the lookout from the parking lot.

If you are after a place to drive, with an hour or two to spare, you can experience one of Oahu’s best lookouts, make your way up the Pali Hwy to the Nu'uanu Pali Lookout, you will soon out find why this section of the windward cliffs is known for it's strong and howling winds.
The sight holds special historical significance, this is where the Kong Kamehameha won the struggle to unite Oahu under his rule. There is tourist information posted there where you can about he conflict, and afterwards you will be curious to learn more Hawaiian history.
There is a $3 per car to park, the walk to the view is free, and well worth a visit.

This is our second time on the Nu'uanu Pali lookout, and on both times, we had a blast with the view (superb, just see the attraction pictures) and were impressed with the winds. Which means, it can be very cold there, so bring a jacket.
Driving is easy, parking is paid (though didn't see anyone enforcing it), and if you are heading to Kailua beach or to the North shore this way, it is not hard to make a brief stop here.
I also found out that there is a trail that leads from Manoa falls to the lookout, it may be something to consider if you are looking for some workout.

Have your cameras, videos when you approach this lookout. Amazing. I found myself just wanting to take pictures from every angle with such a breathtaking view.

Visited Nuuanu Pali lookout while on a recent visit to Oahu. Quite windy and cold, but amazing views. Worth the visit.

Visited Nuuanu Pali Lookout . Great views and photo op, but very windy. It does cost $3 to park , but well worth it.

We came here after reading reviews which said 2-3 hours. Thought I’m a quick hiker we will be done in 1 hours. However……. Ankle deep mud and water. Slippy and definitely not suitable for my flip flops. Some great views along the way but I wouldn’t do it again when it’s muddy and wet. We looked at the usual view points and went to the reservoir lookout too. We had our lunch up there too. Ahem 6 hours later we were back in the car.

We loved our visit on a very windy afternoon. I was surprised to see so many wild chickens, eggs laid among the roots of trees around the parking lot, and the incredible cliffs on both sides of the overlook.
Plenty of parking, some products being sold in the parking lot by locals and park supporters, and lots of photo opportunities. Well worth the time to make the drive from Honolulu to see this incredible lookout.

This is a great sightseeing trip with a great panoramic view. It is worth the trip to drive there and take in the other views on the way there.

Took this way back just for a stop here. A lot of people only visit the beaches. We wanted to see more and we certainly did. No wind up here today as so many said in their reviews. Not crowed either. Just so you know, you do have to pay a $3 parking fee and it is enforced. So worth the $3. Stayed about 20 minutes and so happy we stopped.

Absolutely amazing views! The drive to Nu'uanu Pail Lookout is beautiful. One of the most beautiful parts of Honolulu. Well worth the drive.

These views are free, no fee, only $3 for parking all day. We came on a day that was perfect, no wind, no sweater needed. All that is needed is your camera, sneakers, and a sweater.

A lady was standing around making sure people paid the $3.00 to park. The wind was stronger than what you feel at the beach. Also the elevation and wind together might make you a little cool. I recommend wearing shorts instead of a dress and leave the hat behind. Watch out for all the chickens wandering the streets. It was easy to find the lookout and there was plenty of parking in early afternoon. I do not recall seeing any public restrooms. It was a good view of all the tunnels and cliffs. This was something you visit once.

Worth a stop if you’re in the area. Heard you have to pay to park. It’s really windy and was kind of chilly. We did the few min walk, took a look and some pics and off we went.

Imagine the epic battle fought here by Kamehameha in his quest to unite the islands under his rule! It's a gorgeous drive up the mountain to the overlook and then breathtaking views! So glad we went.

Such a contrast from the big city below! This lookout in the mountains is cool, lush green, and very windy. The history of the battle for Hawaii is shown on placards

There are awesome views of Kaneohe Bay and the windward side of Oahu. You have to pay a small fee to park, but it is worth it. I highly recommend this stop!

Only 5 miles away from Honolulu city centre, it's very popular to tourists as well as to locals too. Not far away from the parking area, the path is easy for everyone but there is a number of steps up to the stone terrace. No admission fees. Only $ 3.- for the parking.
There is information about the Battle of Nuʻuanu. In 1795 Kamehameha I
with 10.000 warriors decided to conquer the island of Oʻahu after the
the islands of Maui and Molokaʻi. He trapped the locals led by Kalanikūpule at the Nuʻuanu hill and many of them were killed forced off the cliff's edge (Pali means cliff). He then became the first king of the island. In 1898 during the construction of the highway from Nuʻuanu to Honolulu, 800 human skulls were found. They belong to the soldiers of that famous battle.
The view from the stone terrace is vast and panoramic. Besides the neighbouring mountains, it reaches the ocean covering many directions. But you must know that the place is also famous for very strong winds that make the visit sometimes uncomfortable.
There are various hiking trails, starting from this point, for those interested.

The Nuuanu Pali Lookout in the Ko'olau Mountain Rangeis the lowest point between the windward and leeward sides of Oahu which creates a wind tunnel. Hold on to your hat and small kids if the wind blowing! This is a fabulous lookout to see a panoramic view of Kailua and Kaneohe Bay. Plus it is part of Hawaii's history. It is the location of a famous battle led by King Kamehameha in 1795 to unite the islands. History states he forced his enemies over the cliff. To connect the two sides of the island, the original Pali Highway, which can still be seen curving along the wall of the cliffs on the windward side, was constructed in the mid 1800's. Workers found skull remains which were considered to be those of the warriors. Part of the old highway makes for a good hike. The new Pali Highway was constructed in 1959 and consists of a tunnel drilled through the lower part of the Nuuanu Valley. Parking is free for military!

This was one place we knew we had to visit. I remembered from a visit over 40 years ago, and really wanted to go back. The cliffs and the view of the valley was breathtaking, and the history is amazing.

Nuuanu Pali Lookout is great...but if you are able to go farther North up the ridge, you'll make it to the Pali Puka Lookout...awesome view

This is a beautiful sight ! it is also an historical place were some battle occurs during the 16-17 century, between different island tribes. It was very windy and a jacket could be good.

It is a beautiful lookout but it is also very windy, so you won't want to spend more than 5 to 10 minutes there.
You are supposed to pay $7 for parking but the machine wasn't working when we were there. I can understand paying for parking if you are hiking for the day but I think they should have some parks that are free for 15 minutes and separate paid parks, for those who need to park longer.
Even if you pay for parking the facilities are not good, just a couple of portaloos in the carpark.

Great place to
Visit with an interesting history behind it. It was cold and windy and drizzling. Would recommend when visiting Oahu.

We took a day off from the beach and drove around to find a spot to see the whole city of Honolulu and came across this lookout. Breathtaking view to the valley behind the Honolulu.

Guys please be careful in this place. I got robbed here last week. My rental car was broken in within “4 minutes “of my return to the car. They stole my handbag which was hidden under the passenger seat (cash and my passport) and took a run.
The car next to mine was broken in too.
Please don’t leave any valuables in your car.
Place is beautiful but super creepy. There’s always someone watching your movements. There’s no CCTV or a security booth here, although this is a famous crime spot according to the police. This applies to most lookout points and car parking.
Hope this is useful.

We stopped over at Nuuanu Pali Lookout after our morning at Diamond Head Crater. It has spectacular views and there are excellent plaques to explain the history of the view. The parking is a flat rate of $3. We got there around lunch time and we were able to find a park, but there are limited spaces. You'll only need to spend about 30 minutes there to take it all in. It was a little crowded and we had to wait for a little space on the edge to clear up so we could take some good photos, but it wasn't too much of a problem. We would definitely recommend taking the time to stop over to take in this gem!

Are you looking for a undeniably great view of the Ko’olau Mountain Range and Oahu’s windward side at an elevation of 1200 feet? Yes, most definitely head to the Nu’uanu Pal Lookout just a short drive from Honolulu. Besides the view of the mountains and the Pali Notches,, you are treated to a panoramic view including the two of Kailua, Kaneohe Bay, the Diamond Head, Waikiki, Honolulu and Mokoli’i Island. Hold on to your hat and young children as the winds are strong and you can hear it howling through the mountains. This site is where King Kamehameha I in 1795 conquered Oahu and united the islands and Hawaiian people. Parking is free for residents and is $7.00 per vehicle for non-residents.
Although approximately less than a mile long, the Pali Notches Hike is known as the most perilous and risky hikes in Hawaii. Yet, adventure seekers put aside their trepidations and embark on its steep incline and cliffs. From what I have read, the first part of the trail is muddy, and covered in roots and branches. To get to the notches, you will deal with vertical drop-offs, loose rocks, strong winds, and crevices. As you continue upward, your rock-climbing skills will be tested. The notches were carved for canons to defend Oahu during the battle of Nu’uanu. When we visited, we saw a hiker almost to the top of the trail. I understand those who are successful to reach the top are afforded an incomparable panoramic view of the windward side of Oahu.

It rains a lot in this area, Even if you cant see the view, the landscape in the mist is still quite beautiful.

Pali lookout is open. On the internet it says it was closed. Very windy but so beautiful to look out at the land below! Pristine views! Breathtaking!

The lookout is nice, but the view seems to be overcrowded on the sides with lots of brush. I am not saying that it should be cut or removed, but the lookout is not a must-see. You can see from my picture what I mean. Also, if it is windy near the water than it is a tropical storm up here. I took a video because the wind was nuts.

Wow, this lookout was amazing. It took us a while to find it, but scenery was just great. Worth the time to visit.

Beautiful look out but now they added pay machines and cop to make sure you pay them. It’s sad that many of the attractions are being made just for profit.

A beautiful look out across a vast area. Free except for parking. Plaques outlining the history of the area are very interesting. Can be very windy which brings in bees. Picturesque and stunning view. A very worthwhile bstop.

Totally worth making the stop to take a look. Beauty in every direction! Learn the history of the battle that took place in that spot. It’s always windy up there, and on very windy days, you can toss a coin into the wind, and it will be tossed back to you.

Good stop for a lookout view without having to do the hiking. Parking is easy and the drive is not far from Waikiki. Great photo op. Windy - if you plan to stay long then bring a light jacket. Lots of chickens in the parking area which my kids enjoyed. You have to pay to park but its not much. If you are just stopping in this won't take long, you could plan a drive to North Shore stopping in here on your way.

It was very windy the day we visited the Pali lookout, which made for an exciting time. I wasn't sure whether the wind or the car would win the battle.

This lookout is very very windy, so leave your hats in the car. It is a great view and a historical sight that I won't spoil for you. We were over by the Nu'uanu Pali Watershed rec area looking for King Kameamea's secret summer home (we got lost like most do, but found it). We went down into the valley it looks over later. Good stuff.

This place is worth the stop if you are in the area. It is always very windy, and there are no restrooms, so beware. Also, there is a $3 parking charge

It is just a lookout. Swing by on your way somewhere nearby and get a quick pic. Must pay for parking though you'll only be here about 15-20 mins. Not sure I would deliberately drive here only.

Easy and quick access off the highway when heading to the windward side of the island from Waikiki. Windy and cold on a December morning, but a great photo opp. Lots of chickens in the parking lot.

Check the weather before going. The views are spectacular on a clear day, but the wind can be very strong and make viewing difficult.

Nu’uanu Pali should be a stop on any Oahu itinerary. Not only is it a historic site, but the experience is truly like none other. The view is phenomenal, and the wind is no joke. I was expecting windy, but was not prepared for WINDY. I was on a personal tour who made this one of our stops on a tour of Oahu!

Reopened recently. It was misty and windy when we got there. Temp was 71 when the coastal temp was 85. Bring a jacket!

I first saw this on a guided tour which included three days on each of four islands. A lot of the regular tourists don't get to see this or even know about it. I returned to Oahu in December of 2023 and brought my sister this time. It was still as gorgeous as I remembered. You are doing yourself a diservice if you visit Oahu and don't check out this piece of heaven.

Visited here as part of a cruise ship excursion. Very windy - be prepared. The views are beautiful and the historical significance of this overlook is not to be overlooked.
The walk up to the overlook was a little uphill so that might be something some people might to know ahead of time.

We stopped here as we were traveling from Honolulu to Kailua. It is actually fairly close to both; very windy, beautiful views, and just a neat overall experience. Don’t wear skirts unless you are prepared to hold them down the whole time (or not, it’s your choice-LOL). Parking is $3 a vehicle and it’s a machine you put your money/credit card in. Make sure to get your license plate number before doing so, as that is a requirement for the machine. There was an attendant there that day, and the cash option want working. It isn’t just the view that is the attraction, but the fact that the wind nearly knocks you down! A DO NOT MISS opportunity.

As i said in the title...what a view...just go there and find out. Just be wary on how to get there as you can miss it,as i found through Hawaii the signs for attractions are basically at the stop.

An beautiful overlook if the weather cooperates. Our first time it didn't and saw a lot of clouds. Second time weather was on our side. On our visit it was extremely windy. If you didn't hang on to your hat your hat you will never see it again. Great views in all directions best to the east.

Hidden Gem for Spectacular Waikiki Pics, this place was our 1st stop on the Photo tour of Oahu and it didn't disappoint.
Bit of a winding drive but well worth it. Recommend its on everyones To Do list

Great views from lookout. Very windy so be careful. Stay on the paths and don't climb outside of designated area.

Growing up on the island, then returning to a place where I played, in all my excitement to show my son the ocean that was my playground, I did not notice the Pay Here type of sign/structure installed under a tree or something until I returned to the car and my wife pointed out that someone had gotten a ticket on their windshield. Be Careful everyone. I should have taken a pic and sent it to the County or State, I think I am going to get a parking ticket because I had a rental car and they may have scanned the bar code of the vehicle. LOL.

You can not hike down from the Pali Lookout due to a recent rock slide near the lookout. So park at the parking lot of First Presbyterian (No parking on Sunday.)and hike up that way. Plan on stopping at the "Road Closed " sign and go back down the way you came. You will see wild yellow ginger, ripe guava and lots of foliage along the path right now.Going under the freeway and up the ladder are fun. This hike is good for families.Take a picnic lunch in your backpack and eat at the wall on the mountain side of the wide bridge. Great view & photo spot with the purple mouth drawn over the drain hole in front of you.

Absolutely stunning view. Absolutely worth the visit! Amazing and breathtaking view. I recommend using Panoramic option on your phone to take a picture. I couldn’t upload it here but it turned out pretty good.

Great views to be had of the North side of the island. Worth the drive up, but this is a high crime area so don’t leave anything visible in your car. Parking costs $7 and can be paid with an app or card. It’s a little cooler up there so you might want a light jacket if it’s a cloudy cool day.

This place had such amazing view of the windward side of the island. You can see the town of Kaneohe as well as some coast line. Beautiful jagged mountains and rain forest can also be seen all around. Some hiking trails.
On the day we went, there was strong wind and some rain. It was actually kind of chilly so bring a coat. Paid parking and restrooms available.

Pali lookout is a great lookout spot worth the stop if you are nearby hiking. You can swing through and take 10-15 minutes to check out the views. There are placards that describe a brief history of the area that is pretty interesting. The wind is pretty fierce up there, so hold on tight!!

Site of historical significance where the Battle of Nu'uanu was fought during which hundreds of warriors fell to their deaths off the cliffs and where King Kamehameha was able to unite the island of Oahu under his rule. There is a panoramic observation point here with scenic views of the windward coast of the island. However, the views would be more spectacular if not for all the development along this coast including the towns of Kaneohe and Kailua right below. There is also a $7 fee to park for non-locals. This is said to be a place known for car break-ins but there was a security officer present keeping an eye on the scene.

I love this place, the view is beautiful, the wind spectacular. It make you feel like a kid as you pretend to be superman, or just having your hair blow in the wind. It is typically not crowded and there is a small fee for parking.

I would say paying $7 for parking "just" for this is somewhat weird to me because there are so many other places in all 4 main islands we visited similar to this where no parking fee was required so I am not sure how Oahu came up with that...
However, once you come here you will be welcomed with pretty nice vistas (and super strong winds so hold your hats!.. we visited on a meh weather day and I still enjoyed it) - what I liked about it the most though is its historical significance;
We had a pleasure of seeing the Waipio's Valley on Big Island where King Kamehameha I was brought up in "secrecy" and later declared the future ruler of all the Hawaiian Islands, where also chiefs/kings from Maui and Oahu attacked the Hawai'i island leading ultimately to... the battle at Iao Valley in Maui (unfortunately closed due storm damage durring our visit) where King Kamehameha I "conquered" Maui and then... to Nu'uanu Pali where he finally "conquered" Oahu (Kauai surrendered without bloodshed) to ultimately unite all Hawaiian Islands as we know them today - it was a lot of fun and I felt very fortunate to be able during the same trip visit all 4 major islands and these various spots learning their significance and interconnections.
TIP: if $7 is too much simply park "outside" the parking lot like many other people did down the road - common practice around Hawaiian Islands whenever there is a fee for a parking/entrance with the car...

One of the must visit lookout spots. Was told this lookout spot oversee the entire field where a great battle took place that united all islands (forgive me if I'm wrong).
During my visit it was extremely windy and I saw a person's hat flew off his head (buh-bye).
Be prepared to pay $3 parking though and at my time of visit there was a police car parked there (guessing he's there to ensure everyone pays for parking).
Not a lot to see other than the breath taking view itself so at most budget in 15mins and you should be on your way somewhere else.

We visited this lookout during our Circle Island Tour with Oahu Nature Tours.
This viewpoint overlooks the Oahu coastline areas of Kaneohe and Kailua, and Mokolii/ Chinaman’s Hat.
This lookout is one of Oahus best scenic locations so expect great views, and the area is extremely windy.
The Pali Lookout is also of historical significance as in 1795, King Kamehameha won the struggle that finally united Oahu under his rule and these cliffs claimed many soldiers’ lives in the battle.

In 1866 this would have been a manificent view of Hawaiian homes, farms and fishing areas. It has bren replaced with houses, commercial buildings and a golf course.
Also note that there is a $7.00 fee to park if you are not a Hawaiian resident.

After paid $7 for the parking, we walked to the lookout. It was very windy, I felt I was being blowed away by the wind. We managed to take a couple of the pictures and left.

Beautiful views - worth driving there for the lookout. Can get busy when tour buses turn up. Parking is paid.
We went on a overcast day & it was extremely windy and foggy.

Maybe because I’ve been here in Hawaii for a while now, and have been lucky to have the time to explore the island, but the view was meh in comparison to the other views I’ve seen. I don’t think the $7 parking fee was worth it. You can go to the botanical gardens for free and get an amazing view of the mountains.

So glad we made this stop. It was such a shock in change of temperature and wind that it gave us the giggles. Great outing.

We stopped at the lookout on Highway 61 heading to the North of Oahu. Amazing wind. Well worth the stop.

This is an easy trip 15-20 minutes from Waikiki, and the views of Kaneohe are great. It's definitely windy but that is part of the charm. We did this on our way to the Windward Coast and its worth an extra 30 minutes of your time.

The vistas and views from this lookout are breathtaking. Be prepared to be blown away literally though. The winds are high and strong.

A nice stop and short walk to take in the view. There is a pay parking lot. The mountains on either side amplify the winds, so it has always been windy when we've visited.

Nuuanu Pali Lookout Point is unusual and a must visit place in Oahu. Now properly organized with lots of parking. The wind force is so strong it can move your body physically. If you stand and feel the wind you will get cold quickly. This is one of the few places in the world with this phenomena. A must visit place

Best view on the island - and easy to drive up and see! Everyone visiting Oahu should stop and see this lookout. Really cool to read about the historic events that took place here as well. We went at 7 AM and were the first ones here. Parking is for all day so we came back again for sunset for a different view! I never get sick of this place!

Definitely worth the stop. Great views! No hiking involved. Only $3 for parking. Can be done in about 30 minutes.

Worth the drive up have some spectacular views to one side of the island all you just pay for parking seven dollars unless your local probably 15 to 30 minutes is all you need

We spent 20 minutes standing in pay for parking for 5 minutes of scenery. I would not do it again knowing what I know!

Even in the rain this viewpoint is beautiful. The clouds move quickly on the windward side of the island this continually changing what we could see.

Great lookout for some awesome views, very windy but you get used to it quickly. Carpark was crowded but the lookout wasn't.

A short drive from Waikiki - via stunning Pali highway. Great views & nice opportunity for photos. Small adjacent parking lot with pay machine (I think $3). Any wait for parking spot should be short - as turnover is good. Worth the visit - went mid Sunday morning (clouds may be too heavy real early in am).

Beautiful lookout point! Definitely worth stopping along the drive on the Pali highway. Gorgeous view of the windward side.

I was at this Lookout as part of a tour during a recent visit to Oahu. I truly enjoyed the views looking in both directions. It was surely windy the day I was there, from one side you could see far down the valley and the famous Pali road too. Lots of close up shots too of the cliffs nearby.
A great view for sure and also well worth seeing during any tour.

Our friends took us up to Pali Lookout. BEAUTIFUL!!! Definitely worth the time. You can see forever and the view is spectacular.

It's worth a stop as you're driving the Pali. You can see the Windward side of the island (Kaneohe and Kailua) very well.

Definitely worth a stop as you're touring the island and want to learn a bit about King Kamehameha the Great and the Battle for Oahu that was fought on that very spot. There are a lot of cute chickens parading around too!

Scenery was fabulous. Unfortunately the weather wasn't quite as nice as it was a little chilly and a lot windy when we were there.

We stopped here as a detour on our trip from Waikiki to the North Shore. It's a few bucks to park in the lot, so just something good to know before going.
It was very windy and slightly rainy the day we went, so the views weren't super expansive but it was still a different perspective on the island, a great lookout over the other side of the island.
There was actually almost like a wind-tunnel next to the lookout area, where you could hold your arms in your jacket out to the side and lean over and stay up because of how strong the winds were. It was actually one of the highlights, just enjoying the strong wind.
If you're looking for a quick, outdoorsy visit with some great photo opps, this is a good spot!

Interesting stop for 20 minutes or so. Great views. Easy walking on level paved paths. VERY windy! No restrooms or food/drink available.

Parking here is terrible! I ended up running up to take a few pictures and getting back to the car before it had even gotten to turn into the parking lot. The views are amazing, though.

An amazing lookout to stop at if you are doing a driving tour around Oahu. Easy to get to. Very windy there and a bit chilly, but amazing views.

The map indicated the road was open but after taking the detour we were still stopped and turned around just a mile from the turn off.

Nu’uanu Pali lookout has sim absolutely stunning 180 degree views. It looks over the city and mountains. The Lookout was also not at all crowded when we went. The winds were insane as well. highly recommend it!

The lookout has spectacular views, but this ridge has some fierce winds. Easy walk from the parking lot and easy access to the various viewing points.

Drove up from Honolulu to take in the view from the lookout and was not disappointed. We spoke to other couples who picked the wrong time to go and missed out on the views due to the fog and clouds. Be aware that you are required to pay for parking even if it is a quick stop.

Really disappointed in this excursion - and hopefully can serve as a warning to others, this lookout sometimes closes for about a week at a time, so be sure to look into whether it’s open before making the trip.
The drive from Honolulu out there is very pretty, but on arrival the lookout point was closed (sign said about a week). Not sure how frequent this is. However, you can also pull off from the highway about 2 mins up, to take pictures from a similar designated lookout spot, but not the actual Lookout. Strong winds in area FYI.

Breathtaking view. Must see and experience this location. Miles and miles of amazing scenery. Bring your camera

This is a very magical, serene and historical place with breathtaking picture postcard views. Stunning panoramic scenery and cooling breezes because of the height of the location.

I haven't been to Nu'uanu Pali State Park since a field trip when I was in grade school. However, it is only now that I appreciate the historical significance of this sight.
This is where Kamehameha the Great, avenged a defeat 10 years earlier to the King of Maui. The battle was called Kaleleka'anae (Battle of the leaping 'anae fish). Kamehameha used superior weaponry (canons) to drive the Maui forces to this location. His men then drove their opponents over the cliff. Kamehameha's victory unified the islands under one king for the first time.
Its a short stop and a $3 charge for a state park. However, its well worth it to see the view, and learn a little Hawaiian history.

Didn't have any problems parking , and its just a 30 second walk to the lookout. You can see quite a bit and its great for pictures. Note: its very windy!

Lots of Ohau history there. It was interesting that there was a battle on this mountain. The view is amazing, You can see Gilligans island from there. It was free just an small fee to park. Lots of places to hike.

Went while visiting Oahu. the views were great. The wind was strong and great. I wasn't sure the pictures would turn out because the wind was so strong, but they did. My niece had a ball following the chickens around. Want to see this spot every time I go.

Our VRBO host told us to check this out. It was our first stop on our trip. Great way to welcome us to Oahu. The view was beautiful

If you are venturing out from town or Waikiki to windward side using the Pali plan a five minute stop at tge Pali lookout it won't disappoint. We took a day off from the usual and drove around to to see the Island and we finally came to this lookout. Great lookout for some awesome views, very windy but you get used to it quickly. However, its well worth it to see the view, and learn a little Hawaiian history. Paid parking and restrooms available.

Yesterday, 3/15/24 4pm, were there with visitors and as you walk up the ramp to take in the incredible view the wind was filled with brown bees!! Last time here was 10/2022 and was the same then!! This time there were countless dead ones near the lookout points!! Since I'm very allergic I'll be sure to let friends know since I'll stay at the parking lot... really bummed!!! Can't they find the hive and move them??? They're dying up there!!

Its very humid and windy here, but you have good views of the coastal valleys and outlying islands,.

The views from on top of the overlook were fantastic. The history of the battle that took place here is incredible. Great piece of Hawaiian history.

We rented a car to tour Oahu and Nu'uanu Pali Lookout is easy to find off H1. You park the car and there is parking meters for 3 dollars. You walk from parking lot which is full of free roaming chickens and roosters and then you come to the lookout. It is fabulous and so quiet.

Okay, in all fairness it's not always cold and windy. But, it sure was on the day I visited. The views of the valley below and Kaneohe are wonderful. There is a slight fee for parking (the city of Honolulu has to earn upkeep money in some way) but well worth the price. Go! But, hold on to your hats!

If you take the time to read up on the history behind Pali look out it truly is extraordinary. I would not take any of these very expensive tours. Just Rent-A-Car it's about a 20 to 30 minute drive from Waikiki it's three dollars to park and the view is amazing you can then continue on to the other side of the island Chinamans hat and the bleachers on the other side are spectacular.

This place gives you a partial view of the island. It has its place in the history books of Hawaii. It's always windy here, so bring a coat or a sweater. It's also an excellent place for mountain climbers or thrill-seekers, you could end up in a Fall somewhere.

Not only is this site beautiful there are lots of posters explaining what happened here. Parking is easy.

Good place for a 10 min stop & photo shoot.
If you're military be sure to tell the parking attendant.
Also note, if you intend to head north after your stop do not follow the loop road out as you'll end up being forced back down the mountain toward Honolulu again.

The lookout is great for an initial look. But if you are more adventurous or looking for a serious hike, you can start the Pali Notches hike here. It is a strenuous hike for sure.
The views are beautiful! Be careful it gets windy:)

You must go here if you're in Honolulu. The view is just indescribable. But keep in mind: very windy and around 10 degrees lower than the Waikiki area. So hang on to your hat and skirts if you're wearing one.

Hold on to your hat, even on a calm day it is very windy but so worth a visit. The views and mountains are beautiful, definitely a must see.

It’s a beautiful drive up to the Pali Lookout and then you have the most amazing views over the island. It’s extremely windy and there is a micro climate ( can be a bit wet) is dress appropriately.
There are also various sign boards with the stories of how Hawai’i was unified.

View were amazing at the Pali lookout loved every minute of it definitely stop by this look out ! If your with a tour group make sure they stop here for you.

Beautiful view of the city, very windy area. Must paid meter to park, lookout take 10-20 or less. The lookout is 15 minutes for Waikiki in vehicle. Very greenery scene.

Great place to stop for incredible views of the island, the mountains on the forest below. You will need to pay a small fee for parking. Keep in mind it is very windy at this lookout but worth it. This is a must stop.

Always enjoy seeing the view from the Pali Lookout. This time there had been a landslide just below the main viewing area, so barriers were up to prevent people from walking further down the old road. Please abide by the warnings! It surprisingly wasn't very windy during this visit and the slight drizzle made for a sense of reverence. This lush mountain and forest setting is a good contrast to the ocean and beach scenes. Parking is free after a certain time, I think--we were there about 6p.

My adventure started on the public bus when I was dropped off at Castle Junction, there's no bus stop at the very popular tourist lookout. Rental cars were over $250 a day to rent and Uber was non existent in this area. I walked up along the highway to another smaller lookout that does not appear on google maps and found a trail that connected with the old Pali road. I was the only hiker along this muddy trail and found the old abandoned Pali road which was an awesome experience to hike. Once at the top lookout where most of the tourist go I found out this section to enter old Pali road is closed to everyone but it's not closed off from the route I took up to the top.

·
If you are headed to the Windward side then this is a must stop.
·
Awesome and beautiful views of Kaneohe and Kailua.
·
This is about a 15 minutes stop.
·
Parking $3 for non-residents.
·
Happy Hawaii Days

We enjoyed our short stop at the Pali. The views were great and as expected, it was extremely windy which my kids found very amusing. Hang on to your hats!

The history of this lookout is very interesting. Well worth reading about it while you are there. The high winds make this stop unforgettable.

The view is amazing but I do recommend bringing a sweater. The wind is extremely strong! There used to be a hike you could take down the side road but it seemed like it’s been closed for a while. Nice quick place to stop on the way to your final destination.

The family stop by at this Pali road scenic viewl, and wow, it was amazing. Overlooking the Ocean and the city, it was breathtaking.

I wouldn't make a special trip to see this lookout, however if you're on your way past then it's worth stopping and having a look.

We visited as part of an island tour so only spent around 20 minutes here which, to be fair, was enough to get photos. As most other reviews have said you'll be "blown away" by the spectacular views though hang on to your hat, child, wife or anything else that's not nailed down - it was quite possibly the strongest wind I have ever encountered.

I have visited this location multiple times. On raining and sunny days. The view never gets old.
If you’re not a resident or military you do have to pay to park.

After a short drive from Waikiki you come to this lookout point with some parking spaces. Parking is available for a fee. From the observation deck you can look out onto the coast if the weather/clouds allow. It's always very windy. Nice but there is no repeat.

If you are driving down the Pali highway, you must stop here. It costs a couple bucks to park, but the view is spectacular (and I imagine it's probably even better on a clearer day than when we visited).
It was pretty windy--so you may want to grab a sweater or coat before you leave your car.

We found this during my research on places to stop on a drive around the island. The parking lot is decently sized so there was plenty of parking. There is a cost to parking ($7) at an automated kiosk. But the kiosk also said it was free to park for military, and it was based on license plate numbers, so I am not sure how that works. We saw some feral cats roaming around the parking lot. From the parking lot it is a quick walk over to the lookout. It is very scenic with rainforest and mountain views around. There are also some informative signs about the battle that took place at the lookout. Overall we took some pictures and it was cool to see, so we spent about 5 minutes here, as it was also quite windy and drizzly since it was higher up.

This was one of our stops during our island tour of Oahu. It was very windy so I left my hat on the bus for fear of it blowing away over the cliff. There were wild chickens roaming freely on the grounds of the parking area. I guess that's normal haha. There are amazing views from this lookout and I was able to snap many pics.

It cost $3 to park, we were only there maybe 15 minutes, cash only. The view is amazing, the wind is crazy. It was cloudy, so on a sunny day, the wow factor would be greater.

We went as part of the Grand Island Circle tour. The views were amazing. Remember your camera. It is VERY windy and chilly. Take a warm jacket and good walking shoes.

Drive the Pali highway when you head to the north shore and you will want to stop at the lookout with the most beautiful views of Honolulu. Keep a watch for the turn-off because it is easy to miss. It is usually very windy, so even on a warm day it can be cold. I have no idea why, but they have paid parking here. Your visit want last more than 20 minutes, so it seems unfair to have to pay, but do because they check it. It is a short walk up a few steps and inclines to get to the lookout. It is an absolutely beautiful place to take photos.

The views are so beautiful. You can see the mountains, valley, and ocean in one, sweeping panoramic view, and some cool trees and chickens in the parking lot.

Tough to come up here and make a valid recommendation since I went when the weather wasn't great. Even so, it was stunningly beautiful so I can only imagine it on a clear sunny day. It's a must see!

This was an easy check mark off the big list of things to do while vacationing on Oahu. The drive there from Honolulu was short and breath taking! $3 to park wasn’t terrible and there were plenty of spots. Walking towards the lookout it became so windy but as you approach the overlook you don’t even care about the wind. The view is incredible!

Truly awesome views. Short and easy walk. It's even wheelchair accessible. I would highly recommend this to visitors. It's also free.

This is a must see for anyone visiting Oahu in Hawaii. The view is incredible and lots of great photo opportunities. It is about a 20 or 30 minute drive from Waikiki and easy to get to. You can access it from both directions of the Pali Hwy. Remember to lock your car and don't leave anything visible that might tempt a break in. There is a small parking fee for non residents. Machines take US dollars or major credit cards. If you have a friend that lives here that is driving, parking is free.

Pali Lookout presents an outstanding panoramic view of windward side of island. Short drive from Honolulu. Many days you will find the peak shrouded in clouds. Limited parking with meters. It is very windy- be prepared. Hawaii historical significance in unifying control of islands.

This lookout is a must do if you’re driving along the highway, heading to the north shore, or to Byodo-in Temple. The view is spectacular and it’s one of the best places to get close to the mountains without having to hike a long or challenging trail.
This is a very specism historical site and there are several other unique elements at this location including a sacred site and traces of the old road.
We visited twice and each time the weather was different. The first time was close to evening and it was a bit windy and cloudy. The second time was super sunny but the rain and clouds came in while we were there. If you go, understand that conditions can change quickly and vary greatly. It’s a good idea to hold on to your hats and anything that might fly away.
There is a parking fee of $7 (Sept 2023) but it was well worth it. Yes on the mainland states there aren’t very many places where you have to pay to see a lookout but as this site is so special and has a several other elements too we didn’t mind paying to help with the upkeep of the site.

Can you say WINDY? Oh heck yeah. Beautiful view. Awesome ride to get there and turning right out of the parking to Chinaman's Hat is breathtaking, but not white knuckle. It is very windy. Hold onto your hats. I would suggest a light jacket or sweater. I didn't heed that advice, so I can tell you to consider that one little piece of advice. Don't mind the chickens that like to wander around. (apparently, this is the norm). Oh, pay to park, so yes, be prepared. Ten minute "self tour" is pretty much tops (for us anyway).

We discovered this lookout while looking for things to do. You might find a pull off along the road to park but there is parking at the entrance. It costs $7 to park (machine was broke so we had to pay thru the phone. And when we were there, there is a guy there overseeing things (I read where some didn't pay). Be prepared. When we went, it was seriously windy. Temps drop 10+ degrees too. Its a short walk to the top. Those with disabilities can get up there but the wind is strong. After taking pics from the top, we went down to the lower lever. When I started around the lower level, the wind almost lifted me up. I definitely had a struggle fighting those winds. I dont know if its this windy all the time, but it sure was when we were there

it can be crowded but it is very windy and beauty all around .....easy to get to and vistas are marvelous........parking is good...buses stop here frequently

Someone mentioned the Nu uanu Pali Lookout to us before our vacation. It makes a nice stop for a few minutes and an amazing photo op. You certainly notice you're on the "windward" side of the island. There may be some hiking trails nearby, do your research.

Nice view from the look-out.
Interesting story about the battle of Nu’uanu.
This is a historical place.
A tree with a pair of eyes!
When were there, the wind was strong and chilly.
Sorry no toilet here!

This was my second time here, first time was in 2010. It's easy to find, costs $3 to park your car, and very well worth it. You're almost a 1,000 feet up and have incredible views. Immediately below you is a thick jungle like canopy and out in front is the coast line. Unfortunately the old road you could walk back on is completely closed off now. I highly recommend it.

Parking was 7$ usd. overprice for only a viewpoint. Not worth it. Not a mandatory stop in Oahu. For that price I did not see any toilet at the site.

This is a “must do” attraction on the Island of Oahu. The view is breathtaking. They say that this is one of the windiest places on the planet and I believe it! I made the mistake of wearing a baseball hat which got pulled off my had by a strong strong gust. After a five minute walk, I retrieved it. Good times!!

Even just driving to the lookout was worth it. Only drawback here is that you have to pay to park- really uncommon for a lookout and felt really unnecessary. There’s even a guard to enforce it. The view is amazing though!

We heard about this spot from a friend. It was easy to drive to and an easy walk to the lookout point. We were not disappointed with the views.

It was pretty windy the day we went, but the view was spectacular! It's just a short walk from the parking lot to the viewing area. Seeing this in person is way better than just seeing the photos.

This is an awesome lookout set in a lush forest at high elevation. The lookout is midway to Honolulu as you drive back from Kailua. You have great views of mountain peaks shrouded in dense flora and mist when looking towards Honolulu. When looking in the direction of Kailua, you will see the beautiful coastline with all of its beaches. This lookout is a must see and there is plenty of parking for convenience. There are some hiking trail leading from the parking lot.

We stopped here, it’s just $3.00 to park, which most people were ignoring. But the tickets are good for several hours, so we just passed ours along to another couple when we were leaving, we only spent about 30 minutes here. The panoramic views were breathtaking! Definitely worth a quick stop!

This lookout was the site of a bloody battle during the unification of Hawaii in the early 19th century. Now it is a lush, green location with great vistas towards the east, Note that parking is not free for visitors to Hawaii.

+ Beautiful view of the mountain and city
- Not very good direction, signs, if you are trying to find the direction yourself

unfortunately the road was close so we could only have a glimpse of this overlook when driving by the area. i can only imagine if the road is not closed how much more the scenic the view would be

The history of the lookout is quite sad but proud at the same time. If you're going for an amazing view then you will be in luck here! There are two different hiking trails one the goes off the left to the Pali Puka and on the goes to the right to the Pali Notches, both can be quite dangerous so if you go be smart and be careful. If you're lucky the wind won't be absolutely crazy here, if not, hold on to your hat :)

A very panoramic view at an historical sight. Does get very windy at times but some excellent photos can be taken. Make sure you pay for parking (it is only $3) as they do patrol,

This place has a nice view of the island. When I went to the parking space was limited and the weather was super windy but if you were still amazing. A short drive from both Honolulu and Kailua side. It is very easy to find.

I loved the steep, jagged hills all around and the fields down below. There are a few interpretive signs to give you some understanding of the area. It was a very nice view.

Nu’uanu Pali Lookout is a historical landmark and scenic spot with panoramic view of Oahu. There is no entry fee, $3 for cars. Upon arriving there was a visitor being air lifted by a rescue unit due to falling down a cliff. I can not stress enough that you should READ the signs and DO NOT go hiking where you shouldn’t. Trails can be slippery and it is not safe. Enjoy the views and make sure you bring your camera!

One of the best views on Oahu. The drive up among very deep valleys with waterfalls around you is equally beautiful, esp. on a drizzly, misty day. Definitely worth stopping while you're out and about. Kids will enjoy trying to find the wild cats hiding in the trees and bushes.

Read reviews on road closure so did check before head up Pali Hwy and was also closed! Spoke w police at closure and said was due to construction, safety, etc. Google maps did not show closure (?)... Did show closure from the east approach where we were the day before. Sad that didn’t get to reach lookout in 2nd try.

Beautiful lookout! I don't believe they should be charging for parking just to look but it is Hawaii and they overcharge for everything it seems lol
That being said it is a beautiful view and worth the stop .... and the parking $

We stopped there at the end of the afternoon and enjoy the view from the lookout. However we did not stay very long because it was very windy and cold at the top (1200 ft elevation).
The parking costs 3$ for 1 hour, so since the visit took us less than 20 minutes we gave our parking ticket to somebody that was just getting there were we were about to leave. Please do the same and save a couple of buck to a friendly stranger!

The Pali lookout is driving distance from the Waikiki Beach area, so Uber (unless you have a car) is the best option. We've heard about the strong wind (trade wind?) but the ferocity was experienced when we're at the top of the lookout! OMG! Almost blown away by the howling, strong wind! There were couple of little kids who tried to go against the wind (we did too) and they were almost swept off their feet by the wind! Don't recall any such windy place anywhere I've been to. Nice scenery too.

The wind is so strong, you can lean into it!
The view of the Windward side of O`ahu is spectacular.
Olomana mountain is breathtaking.

This is a pull off from the Pali Highway from Honolulu to the "Windward" shore.
There are parking meters but I couldn't get mine to respond and saw no indication that anyone else was worrying about it. We walked up to the lookout and enjoyed the fantastic view of Kaneohe Bay. But, pay attention to the information placards that tell about the battle that happened here where King Kamehamea defeated opposing forces and made final the consolidation of the islands into one kingdom.
There is always a strong wind here, so hang on to your hats!

Took our two grandkids and they loved the windy conditions. The view is spectacular as you can see all the way back to the coast. We went back twice because they loved playing in the wind.

It was our Family's Tour in Oahu and we started at Pali Lookout. It was a very picturesque vista. The wind the rolling hills, the greens and the coast line what view. very near from downtown Honolulu, what a way to start a tour.

In my opinion this was the best lookout point. There are trails to take and the views are gorgeous. It's easy to get to and a great place to take pictures. You can see really far, and the views are different everywhere you look.

Take the old Pali road, spectacular drive on a rainforest road! and soon you’ll be at the historic outlook where history of Hawaii was written! Besides that, of course a wonderful view to the windward side of the island!

If you can get here (you need a car) it's worth the effort as the landscape is extraordinary, the best of Hawaii. No need to go the the other islands for tropical splendor,

Nu‘uanu Pali Lookout, Kaneohe, Oahu
About a 20min drive from Waikiki, gives you a panoramic view from the lookout toward the Windward coast of Oahu, as well as the cliffs of the Ko’olau Range. This is a historic sight with breathtaking views. It was very windy the day we went and cooler than the coast, probably due to the elevation. Parking is $7 per day, and the lookout is open 6am - 6pm. Then you can drive to Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden, and then Manoa Falls on the way back to Waikiki.

The lookout is just off the Pali highway, close to Queen Emma’s summer palace if you’re over that way.
Parking is not free so make sure you pay and display! $3 per car. There’s a time limit but you are unlikely to be there for more than an hour at max as it’s not a trail of anything else, just a great spot for some panoramic photos.
It is very windy though!! Hold on to valuables and small animals and children, no joke, that’s how windy it is!!

I remember coming here when I was a child on a family trip, so when I came back to Oahu as an adult, I knew I had to go! It's really a simple thing, just a parking lot (no entry fee, but pay for parking), and an overlook. But the view! And the blustery wind! It always brings a smile to my face. I could stay up there for hours!

Stop at this breathtaking view of the Windward side of the island. Be prepared to be blowing in the wind as you walk up to the outlook. Definitely a Kodak moment. Even on a cloudy day.
Historical place, average lookout, rip off parking
This lookout is located in the middle of Oahu island, along the Pali hwy connecting Honolulu with eastern and further northern shore.
It's set in the central mountains, so beware the weather can change quickly due to strong winds which happened to us.
The site is famous for the 1795 Kamehameha historic battle in order to unite all the islands under his rule. Defenders were trapped here and had fallen from the cliffs during the battle. Kamehameha won and became the first king.
Views are average, oriented towards east of Oahu. Much better are the Tantalus views and they're free.
7$ parking fee is a total rip off for someone staying there 15-30 min.
