We love this place! In 2 hours you are done. If you are here with a cruise. Go get a Taxi they will take care everything. Believe me!!! It is a amazing place. We love nature.

The falls were absolutely gorgeous as was the glacier and lake. The walk from the tourist center was easy and paved. Next time I would like to try the trail that goes on top of the falls. I highly recommend seeing this!

Nugget Falls are the extra on the tour to the glacier. After you take pictures of Mendenhall, you have the option of walking up an easy two mile trail to see the falls up close. It is easy and very enjoyable.

We couldn't believe the amazing views after such a short easy hike. The waterfall was breathtaking! Rainbows, photo ops... AMAZING!

Same trail as the Mendenhall Glacier, easy hike and view was worth the trip a must do if you are in Juneau Alaska.

There is an easy hike to the falls from the visitor center. The views when you get here are well worth it. Really beautiful and majestic.

We visited the Mendenhall Glacier and hiked out to Nugget Falls (2.2 miles, pretty flat). Definitely worth the hike. I was surprised at the sheer volume of water coming down!

We walked this improved trail from the Mendenhall Glacier visitor center to this waterfall a short distance from the glacier. I would call it an easy hike (can't remember if it was 1.1 miles or that was one way, sorry), and we were lucky enough to have wonderful weather so the footing was great. Quite a few kids and older people were on the trail. There is an elevation change but it is not steep anywhere. There is a large beach area in front of the falls and you can see the glacier as well. There are bears around Juneau and we were lucky to see a mom black bear and two cubs! They were coming down the hillside and crossed our trail maybe ten feet behind us. Fortunately, they were totally uninterested in the people on the trail so I enjoyed the brief encounter.

Two mile, mostly level hike/walk to Nugget Falls. Pretty much anyone can do it. The waterfall flows out onto a gravel beach. You can walk right up to the falls (if you want to get wet). Great picture-taking spot with Mendenhall Glacier in the background.

Best time to go is very early in the morning when there are only a few people or after 7:00 when the tour coaches leave. It is stunning. Easy 20 minute walk to the falls with expansive views.

Definately worth the trip there . The walk to the waterfall was not that bad, and people of all walks can do this trail to the falls. It's worth it.

You can get up close and personal to this fall after a short walk from the visitor center. Trail can be crowded if it's weekend or nice day.

Nice stroll to the falls. Path is well marked. You can get really close to the falls. This would fall under my “been there done that” category.

Visiting Juneau again, we wanted to finally see the Mendenhall Glacier and its visitor center. The center was packed with information about the glacier and its retreat, and rangers gave informative talks in the open room with a good view toward the glacier. When we went to Nugget Falls, there was a broad area of stones to walk around on at their base.

Wear rain gear if you want to get close to the falls. Easy walk for all fitness levels. We saw interesting fungi and mushrooms all along the trail.

We squeezed in a quick visit here after whale watching. We were on a time crunch to return to ship, so I felt like we couldn't really enjoy it. It's a beautiful walk surrounded by lush, green trees and nearby water vistas.

It was on my list to do when visiting the mendenhall glacier. About an hour round trip (2 miles) for me. Got some pictures, was closer to the glacier, saw some floating ice chunks.

We love walking to the falls. You get an amazing close up view of the glacier. There is a small sand bar type area, we skip rocks, climb the ginormous rock, and just hang out. It’s an easy walk.

MUST-DO when visiting Mendenhall glacier. Short hike from parking lot leads to this incredible waterfall. The loudness and coldness are exhilarating.

Hiking out to Nugget Falls was a great way to experience Mendenhall Glacier. The trail is easy and the falls are impressive. We rented a car so in Juneau so we could stay as long as we wanted.

We left the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center and walked down to the Nugget Falls. It was an easy trail. The views were spectacular.

This was an extremely easy hike to a great view. Might be more difficult if you have mobility issues, but not impossible.

We loved seeing the Nugget Falls when we visited Mendenhall Glacier. Well worth going to. It is amazing how much water flows over the top of the falls. Easy trail.

These falls are off to the side of Mendenhall Glacier and quite impressive to see. They are formed from Nugget Glacier and fed by Nugget Creek. The Falls have a total drop of 377 ft (115m) in two tiers.

If you are able to walk the 2 mile round trip, take the trail while visiting the Mendenhall Glacier. You will be up very close to the Falls...it is beautiful and well worth the walk.

OK as far as waterfalls go. Near, and falls into the same lake as the glacier. At the end of a half-mile or so trail from the trail start near the Mend. Glacier visitors center.

Easy hike (gravel all the way) and ends with a great view of the glacier and falls. You can walk right up to the falls and the roar of the water is so intense! Don't miss this trail.

Nugget falls is only a two mile round trip but it was a very easy walk on a good smooth path. Very little elevation change to make it easy for all. The trail starts at the Mendenhall visitors center.

We didn't have time to visit the visitor's center here, but we took the easy hike to the falls and were not disappointed. Beautiful falls. LOTS OF WATER!

The mile walk down is a fairly easy walk on a paved path. It’s so much prettier up close. Walked along the beach area some & just enjoyed the Falls. You are also closer to the glacier for better photos.

This is an easy, 45 minute hike to a sandy beach with beautiful waterfalls and the glacier in the background! We saw a family bringing beach toys on our way back so it could be a fun but cold beach time too.

Fantastic time at Mendenhall Glacier and Nugget Falls. Spectacular!!! Visitor Center is great, all staff and rangers were very friendly and wanted to answer any questions. The Falls were astounding. And we have seen some great falls, Niagara and Lake Superior falls in Upper Pennisula Michigan. Wow!!!

It's free and walking distance and in minutes your literally there and beauty scenery and wlwziw it was

I took a bus to Mendenhall Glacier, not knowing the Falls were there. I thoroughly enjoyed my hike that culminated in seeing both of these amazing treats of nature.

Breath taking. The walk from the center to the falls is about 15 to 20 minutes, but is worth every step. You can hear the falls as you approach them.

Easy walk to the falls after a quick cab ride from the cruise ship dock. Nugget Falls are very dramatic. Since we did a ~1,500 climb up Gastineau Peak, from the top of the Mr. Roberts tram, earlier in the day... we paid the extra charge for cab (commercial vehicle) to drive us to the Visitor Center parking lot, vs. dropping us off at the park entrance. If you have a National Park Senior Pass, remember to bring it, as it saves you the entrance fee.

Is this water fall worth the walk to it. 2 miles round trip from the visitor Centre yes it definitely is. The water cascades down or should I say thunders down, not stopping until it reaches the lake.
It can be viewed beautifully from the beach at the bottom. This beach isn’t normal sand but it’s man made from all the bits from the gold mines. So if you see it shimmer you now know what it is.
When we were there lots of people were swimming in the pools at the bottom. I would imagine it to be pretty cold.

Nugget Falls was super cool! About a mile and a half round trip walk (level) on stamped gravel. Worth the walk to get up close and personal!

What a wonderful view! We hiked to the falls and it was just so beautiful to see the falls, to the colors in the water to the glacier in the background.

You can see the Nugget Falls from the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Info Centre and if you want to get up close and personal to them, you can walk the trail that leaves from the Visitor Centre – just follow the signs. There and back is about 1.6km and takes just under an hour.

Walked up to Nugget Falls while visiting the Mendenhall Glacier. Nugget Falls are just awesome, pls do make time to visit these!

The trail took us 1 hour (w/ return and photo stops). The trail is easily and accessible to all.
It is worth taking as you arrive at the base of nugget falls and it does provide you with beautiful pics and amazing views. Nice place to take group/family/couple photos.

After our whale watching trip via JuneauTours.com, our excursion continued to the Mendenhall Glacier/Nugget Falls area. After visiting the guest information area, we hiked about a mile to Nugget Falls. The hike is easy as it is on a paved type path that is mainly flat. It is worth the 15-20 minute walk to get up very close to this vast and powerful waterfall. In addition, you can also get much closer to Mendenhall Glacier for some nice photos.

I believe this was a 2 mile hike round trip. A nice path, but very busy. The falls were beautiful and you can see the Mendenhall glacier as well.

So pretty and easy for kids! We also took our double stroller and it worked great. Fun beach right next to the falls.

The nugget falls are really beautiful, whether you make the mile walk to see them up close, or view them from across the bay. For us, this was the best part of the visit to Mendenhall glacier.

Beautiful place and very easy access for soft walkers.
Glaciar and waterfall in one spot.
Rangers in the visitor center are super nice.

If you have ever wanted to touch a waterfall, Nugget Falls provides you that opportunity - and you can stay dry doing it. You can stand right next to the falls, stick your hand in and barely get wet. Also provides awesome views of Mendenhall Glacier. Well worth the mile hike on paved trails from the visitor center to the base of the Falls.

We went to see Nugget falls on our tour to Mendenhall glacier. There is a lovely walk from the Visitor centre to the Nugget falls viewpoint.

We were at the falls on a very warm, clear day. It was a good walk -not too strenuous and well worth it.

Very short easy hike from the visitor center. Although crowded, beautiful falls to be next to. Definitely worth the small trip!

It only take 15 minutes to walk a mile to see one of the most beautiful sights on earth. It is a fairly level, well maintained, trail suitable for all ages.

The falls were magical and spectacular. Moderate walk to get to them. It was a warm day - spray from falls felt great Highly recommend.

If you visit Mendenhall Glacier don't miss Nugget Falls. From the Visitor Centre go down the steps and follow the trail to the right. It's a little bit of a walk to the Falls but worth the effort. Be watchful for wildlife. On our way back we saw two porcupine up in the tree. Signs also warn of bear in the area although we did not see any. Although the glacier is a ways off, the scenery is lovely. Enjoy.

The Mendenhall Glacier visitor’s center is a good stop before heading out to the falls/glacier. The path out to the falls is a short hike or you can venture off path like the locals do. The falls are amazing and you can get close enough to get wet! The falls are fed by glacier melt far up in the valley above. The Mendenhall Glacier is great viewing from here also.

Absolutely gorgeous view of the waterfall. Only a 2-mile total “hike,” which isn’t really a hike so much as it is a walk on a nice, mostly flat, paved path. It was a very busy day so lots of folks out and about. Once down at the falls, there is a nice view of the glacier as well. The spray from the falls is so cold and refreshing. Really cool and memorable experience. Free!

It is a two mile round trip to the falls and well worth it. Great tail and the pictures at the end were fantastic.

We went on a colder, rainy day! But I didn't care at all! Soaking wet as we hiked to the these falls!! Amazing!! Highly recommend the hike down to the falls, then stop in at the awesome Visiter's Center!!

Don't miss the walk to the Falls! It is a lovely meandering hike. It is stunning! Great photo opportunities.

Wonder site of the water rushing off the cliff with the glacier in the background.
Worth the hike to it from the Visitor's center.
We were independent travelers so I took my time.
Would be a brisk walk if on a cruise excursion.

Be sure to walk out to Nugget Falls, it's worth the mile stroll. Take your camera and enjoy the awe-inspiring beauty of this magnificent falls.

Mostly flat 1 mile (each way) trail, people walk, bike, push strollers, even wheelchairs. Huge 365ft falls is Roaring an enormous amount water, you can feel the ice cold spray from 50 feet away! Plus 1 mile closer to the Mendenhall, Glorious Views of the Mendenhall Lake and surrounding mountains. Worth the walk!

I started the hike after 730, which was perfect because the crowds were mostly gone. The mosquitoes were out a bit, but the hike was beautiful, and the falls are powerful make sure and walk back along the Lake shore.

One of the most accessible and pristine waterfalls in North America. The trip apart of Princess Cruises was spectacular. I do recommend the Falls as a must see.

Short hike on mostly paved trail to foot of falls. Fun and very accessible, especially if you have a car or bike.

We stopped in Juneau on a cruise through Alaska. A short hike took us to Nugget Falls. The roaring water fall and glacier just a few clicks away made for an astonishing view.

Very pretty and you can walk up pretty close. They say to leave at least 1 hr round trip to walk from the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center. The path is gravel and not very hilly, but is longer than most people think.

This is located adjacent to the Mendenhall Glacier, so you can approach both by walking toward the falls. It's a decent walk there. For me, going back was difficult, as we had limited time to get back and I was struggling at the end. Ideally, plan to spend several hours here and enjoy the Visitor Center and other trails in the park. he falls themselves are v ery nice! There are too many people there, but it was very nice anyway.

You should pass on this one if you like short hikes. High volume falls with beautiful glacier views. Don't come here to avoid crusiers.

Beautif falls just a short walk from the Mendenhall Glacier visitor center. The walk is easy and the falls are magnificent.

The walk is easy and you can get right up to the falls - but be warned, if you do you'll get wet. They are larger than they look from the visitor center. Go early to avoid the crowds.

The closes I got to an waterfall without getting wet. the Name doesn't do it honor. The fall is way bigger that the implies. Beside the fall you get an nice view of the Glacier. Keep in mind that it will take you 15+ minutes on an fast pace to get to the waterfall from the glacier visitors center. I do recommend the small hike. The hear the force of the water that close is impressive.

Visiting Mendenhall , don’t join the tour, time is limited going to the falls. Better go on your own. I felt the falls was disrespected since the glacier was the highlight.

This was 100% worth the short walk. Even nicer if you walk along the shoreline. Very impressive falls.

The hike to the waterfall is certainly worth it. There are a lot of people on the trail, but the massive amount of water coming down the cliff is pretty stunning.

If you can spare an hour, walk the trail behind the Visitors Centre, walk about 3km & stand at the base of this huge torrent of walk & gawk! Fun to do!

Beautiful easy flat hike to a superb waterfall - I was surprised at how large it was.The scale of it really made the walk.We walked back along the beach area close to the water, just to be out of the woodland and see more. It's a lovely area though perhaps not quite as wow as the rest of what we saw in Alaska. But that waterfall was the thing!
Iceland quality and size so - impressive!
Nice visitor centre and would have liked time to do the Salmon river hike which wasn't really well advertised. But the various buses that take you out here only allow for a couple of hours at most.
We saw a Golden Eagle on the return, predating on the Tern nests by the shore.

This is an easy, flat walk (about 12 min at a brisk pace) to the base of Nugget Falls. The falls are powerful and loud; you can really appreciate it at the end of the walk -- be sure to go out on the beach at the end of the trail for better views of the falls and glacier.

It was a beautiful hot day. Its an easy 1 mile hike to the falls. You can walk right up to the falls and see its amazing beauty.

While we have been to this area before, this is the first time walking to Nugget Falls. The walk is approximately 2 miles R/T on a paved walkway......it is only at the end of the trail that you will need to walk over some rocks (uneven surface) to the beach by the falls.
This is a very popular tail, so expect many people there.
Well worth the hike.

This is an easy 2 mile round trip hike to get you up and close to beautiful Nugget Falls. You can feel the spray from the waterfall and have a great view of Mendenhall Glacier. The rocks and a great place to eat you snack or lunch. It was hard to leave. We felt so peaceful here. Don't miss this special place.

I saw Mendenhall glacier in the early 90's and it was much bigger and more impressive. But the shrinkage over time is also interesting, too. The nearby trails are good and have explanatory exhibits. The movie at the visitor center is interesting.

What a fun hike! The path is paved and mostly flat. Not a wilderness hike by any stretch of the imagination but enjoyable. The path was very icy today. Couldn’t have done it without grips.

They're nice waterfalls but there are way too many people around to fully enjoy the nature of it all. The hike down to the falls is extremely easy and paved, which is great for strollers or wheelchairs. You do not have to pay to access the falls so that is a plus. People will tell you you need to pay the park fee at the Mendenhall Glacier but that's only if you want to access the visitor Centre or the viewing point and some of the trails, but there are quite a few trails to choose from.

Nugget falls is part of the hike to Mendenhall Glacier hike. This is a great place to take photos and enjoy the sound of the falls. If you choose you can get very close to the falls. I enjoyed the hike and the view.

Not difficult walk on a good path to falls, rocky beach. Gets crowded when the tour buses roll up but managed well by park staff. Lines for bathrooms at those times too at visitors' center. Worth the trip

The trail was a little crowded and strenous is spots. Probably not too easy for baby strollers, though I did see 1 or 2.

Nugget Falls and its trail is a great place to hike to from the Mendenhall Visitor Center. It’s a brisk 30 minute hike 1 way on a pretty flat trail that takes you directly to the falls and next to the glacier. The sheer force of the falls can be felt wherever you’re standing.
Formed by the creek from the Nugget Glacier, the waterfall drops 377 feet in two tiers of 99 feet and 278 feet onto a sandbar in Mendenhall Lake, which is the freshwater pool at the face of the Mendenhall Glacier. The lake then drains via Mendenhall River into the Inside Passage.
This is a MUST SEE fun activity if you’re coming here and well worth the hike!

Adult daughter quickly hiked up to the falls instead of visiting the museum/visitors center and said, at low tide, it was worth the hike up and back.

If visiting Mendenhall Glacier, take the 2-miles round trip walk to Nugget Falls. There is a small beach for viewing the falls, icebergs and whatever washes up from the lake.

When you arrive, you are greeted to a simple bus stop that opens into views that only exist in the untouched imaginations of travelers. Raw Alaskan beauty that you can interact with over a short hike to the base of the falls. Crystal clear waters fed by glacial melt from the mountain heights masked by the low clouds that frequent Alaska.
When you pull away from Skagway, bundle up if it’s clod but you’ll also want to be in the open air as the views on the way out are equally as stunning

Amazing view from the base of the falls. Just another wonder of nature that you should experience. Beautiful

There's a neat trail, easy to follow, which doesn't take long from the Visitor Centre, and well worth making the effort. The falls are something else, icy cold, noisy, an incredible force of nature. we walked out to the spit below them and all took the obligatory photos of each other. Excellent

You can see the falls from the parking area and visitors center at the Mendenhall Glacier. The trail to the falls takes about an hour and is well maintained gravel. Thousands of people a day must walk it. If you are at the park, taking the walk to the falls is worthwhile.

Extremely scenic falls, my son decided to go swimming here also...water was extremely frigid. Lol...guess it doesn't matter to a 13 year old kid.

I am so glad I took the time to walk back to the Falls from the visitor center. The roundtrip hike was only 2 miles, and well worth it. You can walk right up to the Falls, and the Glacier is right next to it!

this is the worst place in history wow waterfall was tiny i hate how many people there were and the experience was just terrible

We really enjoyed the easy hike up to Nugget Falls and the wonderful view from there of the glacier. We would do this again if we had the chance. A great way to see the glacier without having to spend a lot of money.

Mendenhall Glacier and Nugget Falls are awesome! One of the most memorable sights in Alaska. No need to book an expensive tour as it is a short ride (only 12 miles) on the Juneau city bus for $30 roundtrip. We spent the afternoon here and thoroughly enjoyed it. The glacier is receeding rapidly - 1/3 mile since 2007. Beautiful ice floes. The visitor center is top notch, too. Open May to September.

It is about a 40 minute walk (back and forth) from the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center to see the falls. The path is a bit undulating, but not difficult at all. Your reward is a lovely view of Nugget Falls.

This beautiful waterfall can be seen at the end of a 2 mile round trip hike. Well worth the hike. It is said to be the most beautiful waterfall in Alaska - starting and ending with a glacier. It is right beside Mendenhall glacier and is roughly a 375 ft waterfall. A must if you're in Juneau, Alaska.

It was an easy walk to the photo point, which was wonderful, and where I took a lot of photos. Plenty of places to sit and stare.

Enjoyed the hike to the falls. I was surprised to see the number of people eating/carrying food given the fact that bears are frequent visitors to the area. We didnt see any bears though.

This was my first visit to the Falls. They were absolutely amazing to view close up. Do to short time and health issues I was not able to make it all the way down to view real close up, but they have several viewing areas for you to take photos with.

We were in Juneau for 3 days after our UnCruise trip. Nugget falls is next to Mendenhall Glacier. You can stop at the visitors center, then take the trail. Our fellow travelers spotted a mommy bear with her cubs on the short hike. You don;t need a “ tour “, just a car to get around Juneau .

This was a great walk ( about a mile and on a trail) from the parking lot of visitor center, to the Falls, next to Mendenhall Glacier. It was so pretty!!

This beautiful waterfall can be found at the end of the Nugget Falls Trail at the Mendenhall Glacier. While the water does not come from Mendenhall glacier, they share the same icefield, and so fresh glacier water is guaranteed! Feel free to drink water from it, just like I did!

My husband made the 45 minute roundtrip to see this by foot. We were rushed to get back on our tour bus so allow time to see this and the glacier views along the gravel path.

We loved visiting the Mendenhaal Glacier visitors center and the brief hike to the waterfall. Easy hike but great views.

Beautiful view and feeling of a waterfall that is fed by melting glaciers. Adjacent to the Mendenhall Glacier and accessible thru the trial system form the visitor center, the hike was flat and easy, however, make sure you have the time. Its a brisk hike or power walk to get to the falls, take some photos, and hike back, all in an hour. We're in fairly good shape and health. Don't want to miss your ride back to town or your ship. Definitely worth it though!

There is 15 mins walk to the fall from the point where the bus drop you. Nice walk. Make sure you have the proper outfit depending on the the weather. We were there late fall so we had light jackets and some gear in case if there is rain. Fall is beautiful, water was very cold. Nice place to take some snaps near the fall as well as you when you walk toward the fall.

Nice hike to the Falls and well worth it! A few among us didn't think they could do the hike, so stayed behind by the glacier viewing area and Visitor Center. If you enjoy watching and listening to waterfalls, then walk to Nugget Falls. It gives a different perspective of the lake and glacier also. We took some great photos!

This is a fun easy hike for the family. And at he end you have a beautiful waterfall with a Glacier right next door. You cant come to Juneau with out seeing this. So glad that my family got to experience this.

An easy 20 minute walk from the Mendenhall Glacier Information Centre takes you close to the Glacier itself and these thunderous falls. Fabulous photo opportunities.

About an hour round trip walk to get here from the Visitor Centre but worth every step. The views on the way down are amazing and when you get to the bottom you can get really close to them.

We pulled in the parking lot to take pictures of the glacier and saw the Nugget Falls not too far to the right of it. Even at a distance of half a mile away, it looked massive and impressive. From the parking lot, we followed an easy path to get to the fall. the entire hike takes about minutes. The fall itself is so wide and massive that it is hard to grasp its size. If you are in Juneau, I would highly recommend this fall.

The waterfall is quite powerful and viewing it from the sandy beach with the glacier in the background is impressive. We saw a porcupine in a tree as we were walking to the falls.

This is an easy 2 mile flat round trip hike with beautiful views all along the way and the falls at the end are a great payoff.

It's a nice and easy one mile walk to the falls, on a well-traveled, hard packed trail surface. Definitely worth a visit while in Juneau. Even saw some Bald Eagles and some goats.

Take the short walk to the falls, where you get an excellent view of both Nugget Falls and the Mendenhall glacier. The views are magnificent and the trails are paved and flat.

Next to the Mendenhall glacier. The hike is easy and leads along the lakeshore. There are viewpoints to see the glacier and the falls. Once at the falls, you have a full view of the many falling streams. Beautiful chutes with thundering sounds, beautiful surroundings.

It was a nice drizzly afternoon. We went for walk to the waterfall. There is a nice trail easy to walk depending on the amount of snow and traction on your shoes.
Once at the waterfall you can tell where the sandbar is to get closer to the action.
You can take photos with both the waterfall and glacier on the background.
A good hike for the family. I saw a lot of families, kids and dogs when I went there.

Nugget falls is only about a mile away from the Mendehall Glacier Visitor Center and it is a pretty easy one at that. Along the way you pass through some very pretty woodland areas and eventually you come upon little side paths that allow you to go to the shore of Mendehall Lake. From there, you can see the falls in the distance. They are beautiful and definitely photographable with or without people. The glacier is just across the lake from the falls. Don’t miss it. It isn’t a bad idea to visit the visitors center to get background information before heading out.

This is a beautiful and easily accessible walk from the Mendenhall visitor's center and provides a stunning overlook of the glacier.

A little hike, but well worth the view. Absolutely incredible! We ended up seeing a black bear on the hike

Unfortunately, our bus schedule did not allow us enough time to get up close. It is about a hour round trip from the parking lot on a good day. (But only 3/4 of a mile on trail). No need for hiking boots, sneakers are fine for the walk). BRING A CAMERA!
We have already put Nugget Falls at the top of our list for the return trip.

Beautiful area to hike. Lots of hiking trails. Nugget Falls is beautiful and impressive. Must see in Alaska

I stayed in Juneau a couple of days and started early to head to Mendenhall on the City Bus. The bus is $2 each way and takes maybe a half hour or so to get to the drop off point, which then is an easy and pretty mile and a half walk on a paved trail to the visitor center area.
The trail to the falls is another mile walk, then you walk it all back, but if you are in reasonable shape and have good shoes you should be okay. Have some water and snacks secured in a bag.
I also brought a small portable, foldable camp stool/seat in my bag that I used at the falls, so I could sit and look and enjoy in a bit more comfort, which I recommend.
When I arrived at the visitor center, there was hardly anyone, on my way back, there were 5 buses and more on the way, and the trails and overlooks were filling up, so go early!

Very well maintained and easy hike to the falls. Scenic! The Mendenhall Glacier is an extra bonus, too.

This is an easy hike, paved and graveled the whole way. Some little hills, but through the trees and nice and cool. When you get to the falls there is an overlook at the end of the sidewalk, or you can walk down the path to the “beach”. Here you get a great sense of the “rock flour” made by the glaciers. This waterfall comes from a smaller nearby glacier, falls about 8 stories (my estimation) and fans out at the bottom, so it makes for an interesting photo. It’s about as close to the Mendenhall Glacier as you can get on foot without making a 6-mile hike each way that is for skilled hikers. On the way back, we stayed on the beach the whole way. It’s more “back way” but there are big, stable rocks across low/wet areas, so it’s not wilderness by any means. The water is about 37 degrees!

We were able to visit Nugget Falls on an evening where it had been raining all day and there was still a light rain falling when we started on the trail. We encountered only one other group on the walk and had the waterfall all to ourselves. It's simply stunning! The walk is an easy one, almost completely flat the whole way. I imagine it would be mostly shady on a sunny day. Wear a rain jacket if you'd like to get closer to the falls as it puts off an impressive mist. Getting closer to the glacier is icing on the cake. We were glad to be able to visit during an uncrowded time. I would imagine during the day when cruise ships visit that the area gets quite crowded, but it was lovely in the evening.

Well maintained paved trail (wheelchair friendly) visitor center at the trail head with informative activities. It is a bear trail, so do not bring food or sodas. There is shuttle service from Juneau. It does get busy when cruise ships are in town.

We loved the trail to get out to the falls. It is very clearly marked and pleasant to walk. It is by the Mendenhall Glacier. Beautiful waterfall.

Well worth the mile walk from the visitor centre. Spectacular views plus we saw a bear on the walk. Rangers there too to keep us safe.

It was a rainy day, but we hiked to the falls regardless. The views of Mendenhall Glacier were beautiful, the trail very well maintained and the falls spectacular!

We visited here during a stop in Juneau from a cruiseship. We had rented a Jeep from Unplugged Adventures and this was one of our stops. It is worth the crowds and the long walk to get to the head of the falls. They deliver! I am a 54 year old chubster with Lupus, and I had some concerns about whether I could do this hike, but I had no problems with it. Just go steady and slow. The trail is well maintained, and not difficult. The scenery is so beautiful, it felt like no time before we made it. I enjoyed this very much and I am so glad I decided to go "hike the trail". There were occasional spots to sit, but I didn't use them. Most incredible too, is you can see the Mendenhall Glacier when you do this hike as well. I found the hike on return easier, so for those of you who gauge what they can do by that, go for it!
A couple things we noticed: many tour buses stop here. We were glad to see it but the time we stopped it was pretty crowded. We also noticed parking & park entry on the day we visited was not collected. It seemed to be the honor system, as they have machines in the parking areas. The machines do take cash and credit cards, but no one asked us for our tickets. Due to the crowds of people, we did not spend much time there after hiking to the falls area. It was not very peaceful, but we are certainly glad we got to see the Glacier as well, because our cruise ship did not do the Glacier as we had hoped, ironically, there was too much ice in the water. So I would suggest stopping here just so you actually get to view a Glacier in Alaska.

This is one of the 2 things I really wanted to see in Juneau. There is an entrance cost involved because it is a park and we had a taxi that dropped us off and then picked us up at a predetermined time. All up it was US$35 per person and worth every cent. There is an interesting Visitor Centre, plenty of restrooms and a gift shop. The walk from the car park to the impressive Nugget Falls and the Mendenhall Falls is just over 1 mile each way but the track is good and it is well worth the effort.

We arrived by cruise boat, we took the public bus which dropped us off about 1 mile from the entrance to the Visitors Center. The walk has a paved sidewalk and we felt safe. Due to the delayed arrival of out cruise boat, the Visitors Center was closed by the time we arrived but we were still able to make the most of our adventure. We took the 2 mile round trip path to see Nugget Falls. The path, though muddy was mostly flat. The base of the falls was sandy, but you can get fairly close the falls and the water. Not the best view of the glacier from here. On our return, we took the 0.3 mile path to Picture Point to better view the glacier. There were bathrooms available but once the sun sets, it gets dark quick. We waited at the share ride pick up spot for our Lyft to take us back. Uber is not available here

The nice, easy walk to see Mendenhall Glacier and Nugget Falls is one in the same since they are close to each other. They're a must see when in Juneau!

the walk down to the falls was about 45 miunts on a nice trail. I would not recommend people in a wheelchair for there are rocks that you have to move around. once there it was a smooth space to take pictures and dip your toes in the water.

You can walk down to the falls and get close to the Mendenhall Glacier. Pictures just do not do it justice.

Approximately 1/2-3/4 mile hike out to the falls. We chose the beach trail and pretty much had the whole way to ourselves. Beautiful views everywhere.

The force of the water falling from so high is incredible, we had good weather but we didn't walk the 3km to get there, we stayed at the photo point far away but it was worth it

If you go to the Mendenhall Glacier, you should definitely consider the walk to Nugget Falls. It's an easy 2 mile round trip walk and is very worth the effort. The Falls are so beautiful and you get a better look at Mendenhall Glacier. It's also a nice way to get away from all the tour buses at the Mendenhall Visitors Center. You do have to pay a Park Service fee if you don't have a senior pass. I would recommend walking shoes and a hat.

It's about 2 miles from the Mendenhall glacier visitor center on an accessible trail... definitely worth the walk and there's a lot of photo ops along the way!

I really enjoyed the hike, and the falls. My wife did fine the hike nice and it is flat but still a bit of a ways. As long as you can take your time it is fine if you are not in great shape. We both loved seeing the glacier and all the plants. There was a Ranger at the falls that told us interesting information about how the glacier formed the valley. A great Excursion

This huge and roaring waterfall gives a sense of the power of nature, and is an extended but easy walk for most ages and abilities also ADA accessible. Nice break from a bus tour.

When visiting the Mendenhall Glacier, be sure to check out Nugget Falls. This amazing waterfall plunges about 377 feet down the rugged mountainside into Mendenhall Lake. It can be viewed from Photo Point, or you can trek along the Nugget Falls Trail. Both are accessed via the Mendenhall Glacier visitor center

We hiked to the falls only about a mile from the parking lot. Easy path and a mile back. The falls were amazing pouring into a lake.

A short 15 minute walk to the base of the waterfall from the Mendenhall Glacier visitor center. The power of the water falling just feet from the viewing position is awesome. Trail to the waterfall is even and makes for easy walking. Most of the tours give you ample time to do the hike, but if you book your own with the city bus it comes every 30 minutes so you can down as much time there as you like.

This is a very beautiful spot to visit. The only information I would suggest is that the hike isn't quite as "easy" as I've seen several suggest. The hike down to the falls is simple but it is all up hill on the way back and if you are older or not in good shape it will be a bit challenging, particularly if you are crunched for time. I also wouldn't at all recommend taking a wheelchair as others have. The ground is pretty bumpy and it wouldn't be a comfortable ride or an easy push and there are other much better options at this site. For those in good to fair shape and plenty of time however it is a must visit for sure.

On a visit to the mendenhall glacier the falls is a relatively easy walk. A nice slow half hour/20 mins each way. Fairly flat.
Just lovely to stand by and hear all the rushing water.

We walked as far as possible for being a bit tired, but found it quite easy to see the falls up close without touching it.

Nice addition to our nature hike to the Mendenhall glacier. One of the nicer waterfalls and a good photo op. Not too hard to get to. Worth a walk.

Make sure that when you visit the MendenHal glacier, that you take the walking path to the falls. it's a good 20 minute walk but you will be rewarded by the amazing beauty of these falls,

Want a close up look of a fantastic piece of nature, visit Nugget Falls, Easy access to the area get for all ages. Don't miss this if you area visiting Juneau.

This place is just an addition easy 20 min hike from the glacier view points. You get to stand almost along side of it and you have the lake to take pictures of as well,

This walk is free within the Mendenhall Glacier/Tongass National Forest access area (other trail & visitor center have fees...grrrr), and affords good views of the quickly-receding Mendenhall Glacier and stoic mountains. Sometimes there are ice bergs in the lake, and the water level varies throughout the seasons. If it's been raining for a solid week or two (remember, this IS a rainforest), consider wearing boots as the trail can flood in sections. It's a great waterfall that can be approached quite closely, usually roaring. Photos can strategically be taken to capture the falls and the glacier together.

Beautiful views of waterfall and glacier. Area of high rainfall, so wear appropriate clothing! Visitor centre close by has lots of useful information.

Nugget Falls is an easy walk from the parking lot of the Mendenhall Glacier. You can capture amazing photos with both the falls and glacier.

It is a 2 mile round trip walk to Nugget Falls from the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center across flat terrain. The trail is well maintained, and sloped to allow good drainage. The falls are spectacular! This is not your best view of the glacier - you can see it better from the Visitor Center or the other shorter hike to the viewpoint - but if you want an up close look at the falls with glacier views, this is time well spent.

This was a beautiful place. We didn't take the trail all the way out to this waterfall, due to lack of time, but instead took the shorter trail to Photo Point. I'm glad we did - I could get both Mendenhall Glacier and the falls in the picture, where if we'd gone to the falls, I'm not sure I would have gotten a good picture of both.

Totally fed by the glacier. It was worth walking to. The pictures we got from this vantage point were great.

Absolutely breathtaking, upclose view of Nugget Falls after an easy hike on paved trail with lush, rainforest vegetation along the way!

Beautiful to see--well worth the 1 mile each way walk. The path was paved and easy to walk. I just wished there were a few more benches along the way

We were a group of "Seniors" (when did THAT happen???) and the hike to the Falls was a good walk but nothing we couldn't handle. Even if it had been more challenging, it would have been worth it!

Just a 15-20 minute easy, lovely nature walk from the Mendenhall Glacier visitors center, see the falls and glacier up close. Breathtaking views set up beautiful photo ops.

I took my eleven year old on the trail to Nugget Falls while my husband and older sons took an excursion on the glacier. It was perfect and breathtaking! The trail is an easy walk with not too many inclines or declines. The falls are breathtaking and allow for beautiful pictures of the glacier. The water from the falls is drinkable and worth a try!

We really enjoyed our time at the Falls and it's a worthwhile site to see! Trails to the Falls are paved in most areas & easy to walk for most of us.

This was a very easy 2 mile hike to the waterfall. The trail is pretty crowded and you won’t see much wildlife with the amount of people but the waterfall was awesome.

Bit of a hike but very worth it. You can walk right down to the base of the falls and see the glacier as well.

We took a full day bus tour to get to the falls but it was worth the day to see these falls. Great opportunity to get pictures in front of the falls.

Gorgeous falls and hike. Easy walk. Highly recommend. You can see the glacier and the glacial lake at the falls. Nice wooded walk.

This is a nice easy trail where you can get right up to the large waterfall and see the glacier from a distance.

See review of Nugget Falls under Mendenhall glacier. 2 miles round trip to Nugget Falls. We are in our late 60's and 70's and from flatland Florida but we made it and was well worth it.

This is a must do, it's a great trail and most people can make the round trip in about a hour. Well worth it.

These falls are available to hike to from the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center. It is a two mile hike but can be accomplished via scooter or wheelchair as well as walking. The falls are simply awesome and worth the walk if you have enough time..

I was here with a tour company and would have loved to have had time to actually walk out to the Falls. I got some great pictures from the visitor center which has huge clean windows for viewing. Some pictures can be obtained outside, but the indoor viewing area sits up higher for better viewing if you do not have time for a walk.

Nugget Falls is a waterfall downstream of the Nugget Glacier which is located near Juneau. We visited in a cruise ship.

Took the 1/2 mile easy hike down to get a good close look at the falls, and glacier. Amazing !! glad we took the hike to hear the roar!

A lovely and easy walk to the base of some lovely falls near the Mendenhall Glacier. Shuttles leave frequently from the cruise ship dock. If the trip isn’t included in your package, pay a shuttle driver to take you there-many shuttles leave frequently in summer months. They return back to the docks. Not to be missed! Watch for bears near the spawning pool.

It’s about a 20 minute hike one way to the falls but definitely worth it. While you can partially see the falls from the visitor center, you need to take the trail to fully take in the view. You can stand right at the base edge of the falls and let the mist hit you...I did several times. If you’re on a tour package like we were, watch your time. This is must se if you’re at this park.

Awesome place to go. You can see the falls and the glacier up close. Easy walking trail to get to the falls. About a mile of beautiful scenery. Highly recommend this for all people who love nature. Remember, it is bear country.

We visited in July and the weather was perfect. The hike was easy with no complaints from anyone in our family! I have 3 teenage boys and my mom recently had knee surgery and she was able to walk the entire hike with no problem. The hike is also beautiful with the trees, streams, flowers and some wildlife along the way. Once you get there the waterfall is amazing and you can feel the mist and hear the roar of the waterfall. Don't forget to take a family or group picture when you are there! It is amazing and you never know when you are going to be there again!

Easy walk and very scenic. Nicer to do in the shoulder seasons or winter because it’s very crowded come summer time. However it is an accessible trail great for all abilities.

Nugget Falls is an easy, relatively short hike from the visitors center on a mostly paved trail. The Falls are amazing and powerful. You get quite close. Worth the hike if you are at the Mendenhall Glacier on a tour. We had plenty of time to hike to the falls and to check out the visitor center.

An easy one mile walk from the. Center. No food is allowed to keep from attracting bears. The trail is well maintained and level for the most part.

This is very close to Juneau area. Very good access both hiking and parking. Easy access to glacier and hiking trails. Nugget falls is a must do. Easy flat hike to get right up to the glacier and falls. We went in April and there was still some ice and snow on the trail. We didn't have spikes or crampons but was easily done with hiking boots. Absolutely amazing views and you can literally walk right up to the falls. Great views even if you don't hike. The visitors center was closed and opens end of May. Parking lot is a great, dark place to view the Northern Lights. We saw a little of the lights at around midnight.

Great spot for phots. We loved the views. Nice easy wide trails makes easy access. This area is well maintained and can accommodate lots of people. It was part of the hike to the lake. Not hard at all - more of a walk.

Enjoy either a hike or see it from the distance or both. When you are very close to it you might get a bit wet but it is a beautiful waterfall.

It was just a easy walk on a nice trail that led us to this breath taking view. What a sight. Great view of this fall along with a great view of Mendenhall Glacier. Fantastic

The falls aren’t too far from the visitors center (maybe 20 minutes), and the trail is fairly flat. The scenery and falls are stunning and completely worth taking the time to see.

Easy walk along the lake to the falls which provides perfect views of the glacier and the mountains behind. Well worth the walk!

It is a two mile round trip walk on mostly good slightly hilly terrain to get to the falls from the visitor center. You can get a good feel and look at it if you want to short the distance. There are a few trails off the main one that give you a spectacular view of the falls and mendenhall glacier.

This hike is great for hikers of all levels. A mostly-flat trail through the forest leads to a stunning waterfall that you can literally walk up to and touch. It also provides great views of the Mendenhall Glacier within a safe distance. Be aware of bears as they are more active during certain seasons.

Short hike from the Visitors Center one mile each way allows you to experience Nugget Falls. You hear them before you see the falls. When you get to the falls you can see them, feel the mist and there is a great view of Mendenhall Glacier.

These falls are only a one mile walk away from the visitors' center at the Glacier, so are a nice hike and give a closer look at the Glacier too.

Take the hike, it isn’t bad. Totally worth the up close experience.
Nugget falls is amazing and seeing the glacier from such a close proximity is something you do not want to miss.

Try walking the beach to get there instead of following the well used trail. You see a lot more variety of vegetation about way. The falls are huge and definitely worth the walk.

The falls are beautiful. We enjoyed the short, easy hike into the falls. We saw a Sow and her cubs on the way. The beach was clean and open to relax before returning to our car.

Beautiful waterfall alongside the Mendenhall Glacier. Easy, paved walking trail to get to the falls. Beautiful views and the roar of the falls is amazing. At the end of the path there is a small area to wade across to to get closer to the falls so wear waterproof shoes! Great little side trails to walk out on to the beach along the trail for different views of the falls and glacier. Worth the short walk.

Waterfall was really flowing when we were here at the end of May, not sure if the flow reduces as summer months roll along. Breathtaking and amazing. There is a trail from the visitor centre that takes you right beside it.

The signs for the trail are well marked for Nugget Falls. It's a paved trail with a few inclines, but there are benches to sit every so often. It was about a mile walk to the beach where the falls spill into the lake. Beware, the wind off the lake sprays the falls in a variety of directions and if you want a tourist photo you and your phone are going to get a little damp! Visitors are helpful in offering to take pictures for each other. The views are amazing and it's a nice activity for kids to burn off some energy.

Pleasant and easy walk from bus to falls. Make sure to stop by Photo Point Trial. You do not want to miss this photo op!

This was an easy walk (even with a broken toe) - Flat. Could even take a wheel chair and definitely a stroller. No food available here and cannot be taken on trails. There are bears in the area so don't sneak it in. I've said 1-2 hours - but could be done as quickly as you could walk the trail. With 5 mins at the falls. It's just kinda beautiful and nice to take it all in.

not a long hike from the visitor center .... a slight downslope going to, so a slight upslope coming back. Lots of water cascading down the cliffs ... during spring it must be overwhelming. Well worth going to see.

Nugget Falls trail is flat, well maintained, and puts you right up next to the falls. Take your time and drink in the scenery!

Non-stop force of water provided energetic stimulation to the eyes, ears, and mind. A good short walk gave body time to recharge from sitting on tour bus.

This is a very pretty spot. And it’s a lovely walk to the falls. Nice to be with nature. We saw Kayaking groups and sunbathing and picnics. The whole family can enjoy a trip out here.

The hike to Nugget Falls is probably the easiest and most travelled hiking trail. It's about a mile long. There are some elevation changes, but not too difficult to navigate. If you are able to make the walk it's a nice walk.

This impressive waterfall is an easy hike and well worth doing. It we be a shame to make it the glacier and not get close to the fall.

Didn’t get a chance to walk up to the Falls itself as I was told it would take me about an hour and a half with my walker so I at least got to view it from the observation deck.

Take the hike. It is a bucket list item that is truly amazing. The glacier is beautiful, and stop in the visitor center for great pictures and information.

These thundering falls move massive volumes of water by the side of a pebbly, shore. Enjoy the fine mist spray and the view of the glacier!

Trail leading to the sand spit at the base of the falls is gorgeous. Trail is in excellent shape and gives an excellent view.

These falls were so beautiful. The trail walk to the falls was about a mile each way but after all of the cruise line food, we needed the exercise. Lots of people at the falls so getting an uncluttered pic can be tough - just be patient.
We loved the falls - AND THE GLACIER!

Hiked to the waterfall from the Mendenhall Visitor Center. Took a bit longer than 'advertised' but the close up view of the waterfall was worth it.

Realtively easy walk/hike from parking lot to the bottom of the falls. It is impressive to see and hear from so close this massive and powerful waterfall. And the glacier is just off to the side in the distance. The water is beautiful and serene too.

If you are headed out to see the Mendenhall Glacier, you get the bonus of seeing Nugget Falls. Although you can see it from the drop off point for the buses, the view from the end of the nature trail is far superior. The trail is two miles round trip, and it is in good shape. It has minor inclines and declines. As with the Glacier, it is easy to get to by bus from Juneau. Make sure to check it out.

We came to the Nature Center on a tour to see the glacier, but the falls ended up being the highlight! Easy walk to the falls and one of the most forceful falls I have seen (except for Niagara Falls). Loved it!

As part of the Mendenhall Centre visit we took the hike to the Nugget Falls (and saw a little black bear on the way). Lovely visit on a beautiful but cold day with blue skies and the sun shining. It was awesome. Amazing to be able to stand near the base of the falls - great memories to keep.

This was an easy quick hike from the parking lot of visitors center. Amazing fall in the land of falls.

We enjoyed seeing Nugget Falls as much as Mendenhall Glacier and they are right next to each other so you get two great sites to see at the same time. If your visiting Juneau, they should not be missed.

We did not have a ton of time to spend at our glacier stop, but we really wanted to go out to the waterfall and back. I think it was about a 45 minute round trip, plus about 10 minutes at the waterfall. There is a large sandbar area, which you see in some pictures, that allows you to get up pretty close to the falls. In May, the water was pretty impressive.
Unfortunately, you cannot really see the edge glacier from here anymore. It had regressed quite a bit from many of the pictures posted here. It is still an excellent experience.

We went here on a Tuesday when the maximum number of cruise ships were in and it was busy. Still worth it though.

Although Mendenhall glacier is the main attraction of the area, it is definitely worth your time to hike out to Nugget falls. The waterfall is massive, the hike is pretty and short, and it offers a great view of the glacier.

From the foot of the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor's Center, it is maybe 2/3rds of a mile easy walk to Nugget Falls. The falls are pretty, and the sand and gravel bar on its south side invite a short rest as one looks north toward the glacier in the distance. But that's about all -- don't expect to be alone with your thoughts on this stretch of trail.

This is a very easy (flat) walk from the visitor center. It is even better if you go closer to the water rather than keeping the path through the forest. The falls are amazing!

The view of the glacier from the visitor's center is amazing, but nothing compares to how amazing the falls are up close. The short walk from the center to the falls is flat with occasional beach access points. Definitely recommended to complete the Juneau experience!

Rarely can you get so close to such a powerful and beautiful waterfall like this. Take a easy and scenic trail from the visitors center and soon you will be standing near this waterfall and a great view of Mendenhall Glacier. You'll leave with some great pictures and wonderful memories.

Was absolutely amazing. A must see if you go to Mendenhall Glacier. A short walk to the falls. And well worth it

Definitely make the short, flat walk from the picture point over to the waterfall. You get a little closer to the glacier but you get right underneath the waterfall and get to walk on the large beach. Our 6 year old had no issues making the walk.

Give yourself a lot of time to explore this area. The trail to the fall is 2 miles round trip. However, there are many trails off the main path to photo taking spots that are also great to visit. We found for ourselves a quaint little beach with view of the fall and the glacier without having to deal with the crowd at the bottom of the fall.

We went to the Mendenhall Glacier and visitor center, and due to rain I was giving up on this idea. I was so glad that my dad encouraged us to go. It was raining hard and we were soaked by the time we got done, but it was awesome to be up next to the falls. I would recommend that if you are going to the glacier and you are physically capable of doing this walk to the falls that you do it.

Short hike from visitors center- close to a mile each way. The falls were amazing!. There is a small beach near the falls- the locals said it floods and was rising daily, but beach still accessible when we were there. Totally worth it!!

Very easy walk from Mendenhall Glacier Visior Center. Water fall is so beautiful, nice that you can not stop to take pictures. Water is cold as coming directly from Glacier.

It is a one mile hike from the Mendenhall Glacier to the waterfall. The hike itself was on flat ground. I really enjoyed the waterfall which is next to a large sandy beach.

Easy walk to get very close to these falls. Filled our water bottle with fresh clean water and it tasted wonderful

If you can walk the trail, you should. Unfortunately we didn't have the time. It takes an hour to walk the trail to the falls not including the time that you would spend at the falls. You can see the falls from an overlook but we really wanted to be up close.

Get a taxi off the ship and head straight to the Glacier and Falls to beat the crowd. Well worth getting off the ship early to take the trail to Nugget Falls before the crowds.

our second time at Mendenhall and it's worth the walk to see the falls right next to you and the glacier to the side. only worth it if it's nor pouring rain!!

We saw it from a canoe. I would have tried to do the trail to this if I did not do the canoe trip. These falls appear powerful and are located close to the Mendenhall Glacier; they are both excellent sights to be able to see as close as able.

The falls are huge and you can walk right up to them. Very impressive. Also have great views of the Mendenhall glacier.

The glacier is far more colorful than I had imagined. The blue areas are actually crystal clear and refract light the same way the blue sky would. It is a receding glacier and dumps tons of fresh water into the ocean every year. Much of that water falls over these falls.

It's right at the Mendenhall glacier, so you can see it at the same time. A slightly longer hike will get you to the base and give you a different angle view of the Mendenhall.

I was in Juneau on Memorial Day and the city bus was not an option. The day I was there Uber/Lyft and a taxi were more expensive than the bus tour. The buses were more than I expected but were very convenient. The weather was fantastic and the hiking trail was easy to do.

Nice place to walk to when taking the tour from Junneau. We got this tour on the dock. Way cheaper than booking on the ship. So, we went to the Mendleson glazier and this is sort of part of the whole thing but you have to walk. So be ready for it. And dress in case it rains. The path was easy for us, for others it could be hard. This was a really neat waterfall to see. You could get very very close. The photos say the rest. Totally worth it.

This is really worth the short hike out to get really close. Great views of the glacier as well. It is a 2 mile hike.
Not busy when we went in September, but it must get busy as it had a large overflow car park.
If the weather is nice, take a picnic to the beach by the falls!

This waterfall is worth the walk from the visitor center. You can stand at the bottom of the falls and get splashed and misted.

If you are used to Hawaiian waterfalls that shoot straight down, you'll like the variety of Nugget Falls--a long diagonal slope.

We arrived around in the later afternoon and really wanted to get in at least a short hike, but weren't sure if that would even be possible. Luckily, the walk to Nugget Falls is not long at all and had such a lovely pay-off with a gorgeous view of not only the falls and the glacier, but of the whole area.

After a bus trip out to Mendenhall Glacier, check out the Nugget Falls trail. Perfect rainforest hike if you haven't been on one. Bears are in the area but we didn't meet any on the trail...so pretty & serene.

The falls were a short walk away from the Mendenhall Glacier visitors center. You should not miss seeing them.

Even though the wall of 2 miles from the visitor centre may seem daunting - make it!! It is worth it. The falls are great and even though not majestic as the great falls it is quite impressive. The interesting thing is it’s proximity to the mendenhall glacier. The falls are roaring, fresh water and the sprays are a welcome dash of fresh water after the longish walks from the visitor center.

The hike to Nugget Falls is one mile on a well maintained trail. It is accessible by wheelchair as we witnessed that day. Many visitors have limited time due to their tour bus or cruise schedule and seem hurried as we casually walked the trail. When we reached the falls, there was plenty of room to get great videos and pictures very close to the falls. The total time it took us to walk a mile there, take pictures, and walk a mile back was one hour.

An interesting waterfall into the near the Glacier, you can hike out for a closer look to the falls or you can see it at the visitor center.

Other than making the cardinal mistake of wearing new hiking boots that felt great until late that night😱 , this was a great way to get some exercise and inspirational views. The trail is roughly 2 miles round trip and is rated moderate. Totally recommend this great side trip ! This app won’t add my Falls pictures due to size, but they are worth the hike !

This is within the park and is well worth a walk to. Takes about 15mins each way. Very impressive flow and you can get up close.

Absolutely beautiful area, we took one of the trails right down to the waterfall and stuck our hands in it and walked around the Mendenhall lake area. There was a small iceberg in the Mendenhall lake

Visited the Mendenhall Glacier and walked to the Nugget Falls. Sound of the falls can be heard while walking along the trail to the Falls. Nice easy paved trail. Definitely worth the walk from the Visitor Center to get up close to the Falls.

Close to this Mendenhall glacier there is Nugget falls which we have to cover by running as our tour was combined with whale watching and we have only 1 hour to cover this Glacier and fall. Reaching to fall itself takes approx 20-25 minutes so you can't waste even a single minute to go to restroom or to be slow with kids. But it was a beautiful place and must watch. I wish I could have more time to spend at fall and Glacier.

Highly recommended saw bald eagle mama bear and cub and just amazing. The water near the glacier has smalll little ice berg things in it.

It is absolutely beautiful and worth the 2 mile hike back and forth. Not only are the falls gorgeous, but so is the hike to get there. The rainforest is beautiful, and you can see bald eagles if you're patient. You may even get to see salmon attempting to swim upstream!

I've been to Nugget Falls before - about 20 years ago. Back then, you could walk out almost directly to the falls. Today, most of the old trail is under water. But it's worth the current hike. You just may find it a bit crowded, as huge numbers of cruise guests show up daily during season. But the falls are an amazing reminder of Nature's power.

Well worth the walk to the falls. The falls are beautiful, and there is a fun sand bar like inlet to explore. Plus, you get an even better view of the glacier!

We walked out to nugget falls it was a very nice day. We saw a porcupine by the trail. The walk is about 30 minutes i guess depending how you walk. Its paved until you reach the falls then its river rock. We rented a car from juneau car rental so we didnt have to hurry and we stayed out there awhile enjoying the fall and glacier. I drank some of the water from the falls very good and cold.

Within walkign distance from the visitors center, huge and loud! Great for photo ops, one of the biggest I have seen up close.

take the walk, see these falls...must see. they are beautiful and loud and perfect picture spot. take everyone with you

A very peaceful place with Mendenhall Glacier and Nugget Falls sat close together. Perfect spot to stand in awe of this magnificent landscape.

If you're in Juneau you need to go out to Mendenhall Glacier, the Visitors Center, and take a hike out to Nuggets Falls. A beautiful view of the falls, lake, glacier...and to hear how the glacier is continually receding.

Worth the 2 mile round trip walk out to the falls from the visitors center. The calming (but roaring) falls were beautiful and even took a nap on the rocky beach. Beautiful wild flowers on the way too.

You can get a distant view or take a 1 mile trek to get up close to a towering falls that is mesmerizing. Nearby you can see Salmon in streams and bears taking advantage.

Great hike. Worth it to be closer to the glacier and the falls are very nice. I am not much of a hiker but could do it with a couple of quick breaks. Great views along the way and the Lupine flowers were wonderful.

The trail to the falls is longer than the one to Mendenhall Glacier, but definitely worth the effort. Once at the falls, you have a large area to view it and enjoy its beauty up close.

We took a quick walk to see the falls. They were beautiful. The visitor center was closed due to Covid 19, but the falls were amazing. We could also see the glacier from the falls.

It is an easy one hour hike/walk to Nugget Falls from the Visitors Center, and it is well worth it. A huge, cascading torrent of water makes up these falls, it is wonderous to behold. And what a sound it makes!

We canoed over to the falls and they were beautiful! Would highly recommend the walk from the visitor center or booking a canoe trip.

Fantastic views next to the Mendenhall Glacier
There is also a sandy beach next to the falls which is great for relaxing.

We took the 1 mile hike to the fall, it was a fairly easy hike, and well worth the time. many Mendenhall glacier tour allows only about 45' stop, it would be a little tight, although doable.

nice and easy hike for older and younger family members. the view was gorgeous at the bottom of the glacier and falls.

We were on an Alaskan cruise with a large group so we wanted some cool but cost effective things to see while in port. The nugget waterfall and Mendenhall glacier were absolutely amazing and one of our most favorite things of the trip. It is also in the same location as the visitor center and the Mendenhall glacier. From the cruise port, we took a free shuttle to the drop off location which was a bunch of booth vendors selling excursions. They were charging $40 per person to take you to see the glacier (not sure if they allotted enough time to see the falls up close). We walked less than a quarter of a mile to the city bus stop from that point. You can take line 3, 4, or 8 (8 is an express bus that only runs during rush hour times) for $2 a person if 18+ or $1 if under 18. HAVE EXACT CHANGE/CASH. They will not make change for you. We were dropped off at the dredge lake road exit and walked 1.5 miles to the glacier. If you let the drivers know where you are going, they are really good about telling you when to get off. The walk was quick and completely worth it as you see some beautiful scenery and rainforest along the way. There is a $5 per person entry fee to get into the park. It is a short walk to see the glacier with a lookout point where you can get pictures. If you want to continue on, there is a path to the falls with good signage. It is 2 miles round trip to get to the falls. The buses run every 30 minutes. On the way back to the stop, we took the steep creek trail (just the smallest loop which probably added 8 extra minutes (the steep creek trail is a couple of hours if you do the whole thing). Plan on about 5 hours to see the glacier, falls, visitor center, and travel time. We walked around 6 miles total on flat, well maintained paths/roads to do the excursion this way. Totally worth it!

you can travel down a very natural path ( wildlife may not show up but you must be aware they are still present) Enjoy the walk it is so peaceful and nice to see ,,,DO NOT forget the camera !!!

We arrive on our cruise on a beautiful sunny day and walked to Nugget Falls. A bit of a hike but after all the sitting it felt good. The trail is well maintained and the Falls are right next to the glacier. A two for one walk.

The walk to Nugget Falls was easy, short and on a good trail. As we got closer to the falls the mist that was spraying out felt refreshing and cool. It was amazing that we could get that close to such a huge water fall and to the glacier. The roaring sounds were incredible! Great place for pictures with rainbows!

Stunning, amazing & poweful
Well worth a visit.
Quite an easy-ish walk, a little up and down but well tarmaced. Definitely worth visiting.

It was an easy, out-and-back trail of about 40 minutes to reach the falls. The path was wide and clear. Well worth the walk to get a good view of the falls.

We took a bus tour to Mendenhall and afterwards a Salmon Bake. The 1 mile walk to the falls was easy, mostly flat. The sandy area next to the falls was great for taking pictures of the falls and glacier across the lake. We needed to get back to the bus for the salmon bake and wished we had more time at the falls. Did not get to the visitors center. Needed more time.

We took the hike to nugget falls, but I needed a few stops due to asthma. While stopped, I took deep breaths and I could feel the clean air coursing through my lungs. The falls ara was gorgeous and we even saw a mama bear and two cubs from the bus when leaving.

From the Mendenhall Glacier Visitors Center, with its telescopes for spotting mountain goats, its exhibits, its short and informative movie... this is an easy walk to the base of the magnificent Nugget Falls. It roars out of the mountains and empties into the lake near the front of the Mendenhall Glacier. Photo opportunities abound.

New waterfall created by the melting glacier. Really beautiful and brings the problem of global warmimg home.

Incredible falls with Mendenhall glacier in the background, a walk of about 2 miles round trip. We went on a warm day so was particularly scenic.

A nice water fall beside the glacier, which requires a bit of walking but worth the pain, looks beautiful when you reach the fall

We visited the falls on what we thought would be a rainy day. The weather cleared up and we got up close to the falls to get the spray. Great photos and views to the Mendenhall glacier

We visited Nugget Falls as part of our 3-hr cruise excursion to Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau in June. The whole visit was absolutely enjoyable and the whole place was awesome. The features in the area - the mountains, the glacier, the falls, the trails, the forest, the visitor center and the bay (Auk) are absolutely gorgeous. The hike to Nugget Falls from the visitor center was an easy walk on a well maintained trail (about a mile one way). There was tremendous water flow over the falls and the cold spray spread far and wide. The glacier is right next to the waterfall, though only partly in view. One will get a fuller view of the glacier from the short Photo Point trail. Nugget Falls should not be missed while visiting Juneau.

I have no idea how this would be with crowds but during this May it was vacant and amazing...lots of water rushing into the lake and just amazingly beautiful. My spouse and I had it completely too ourselves...

This is a beautiful place to visit all year long. Picturesque. The visitor's center is closed, but the trails are open.

It’s a two mile round trip to the base of Nugget Falls and though paved most of the way, it is not the easiest to navigate for people in wheelchairs or with limited mobility. Some bus drivers may have not told their patrons this as we saw many people struggling with wheelchairs on the little beach that is next to the falls.
Extremely interesting rocks line the beach and though it can be crowded with tourists and difficult to get a picture of, the falls is beautiful regardless.

For all of us that love waterfalls, Juneau is the place to be! I saw so many that my little heart just about exploded. This particular waterfall is lovely. You can walk to it, but I arrived at night, so was unable. I would love to see it up close and get some great pictures...next time.

Beautiful place! Along with Nugget Falls, Mendenhall Glacier was the first of many Glaciers we saw on our Alaska trip. Even though it was the first we saw, it is one that stands out as one of the most memorable. Nugget Falls is right next to the Glacier which makes this a very beautiful and awe inspiring place.
Breathtaking!
We thought the falls were about as impressive as the glacier. Well worth the short hike to feel the spray on your face.
