This place is to visit especially with children, it has a small place to practice snorkeling. He goes around the island and returns to you.

Start your your from "Curry Park". There's a small museum. From there you can take a round trip boat shuttle to "Peanut Island" to see "JFK's Bunker" & Coast Guard tour.
Be aware, there's a separate charge for the boat shuttle & separate admission to the bunker tour.
The bunker tour is about 25-30 min. It's well worth it to see a piece of history.
The tour is privately owned. Soon it will be closed do to lack of funding.
After the tour you are allowed to explore "Peanut Island" on your own. You can bring swimsuits, picnic baskets (no alcohol) to the island.

What a great activity to do with teenagers! The water is crystal clear. We had such a perfect day! We paddle boarded over to the island was so much fun!

HIGHLY recommend you go here!! We took the first shuttle at 10 am and it wasn’t too busy, the water was so clear and perfect to snorkel. We saw lots of cool fish and stingrays. Such a nice area that you can spend all day at!

It was our first time spending the day at Peanut Island. We live about a half hour away. We went with a 19 yr, 17 yr old, 8 yr old, & 4 yr old. So it was a pretty broad spectrum of ages in our family group. Parking is free. We rented a double kayak for the day and brought 2 of our personal single kayaks and squeezed the little ones in our single kayaks. It is not far at all to kayak from the Riviera Beach Marina to Peanut Island, however we wanted to snorkel on the east side of the island so it was a little bit further. Not bad at all. You can't walk to Peanut Island (it's an island), ;). The ferry is $12 per person. We only visited the north and east side of the island this trip. Once you pass the intracoastal which has a bit of a current it is a bit easier to hug the island and it is pretty shallow there. I saw a boat Grill on the north side selling food which was neat. They have benches throughout the island but not much shade on the north side. The east side is a great place to snorkel! I read the best time to snorkel is an hour before and after high tide. You can google high tide times for Riviera Beach Peanut Island. They have a couple covered pavilions with restrooms and plenty of bbq grills. The picnic tables are first come first serve. There is also a lifeguard on duty until 5pm I believe although the park is open from dusk until dawn. The ferry only begins loading people to the island M-F, (I don't know about weekends) at 10am and the last shuttle to the island is at 3:30pm. The last shuttle taking you back to the marina is at 5pm. It runs every 15 min. We did not get to see the Museum or JFK Bunker as it is closed on Wednesdays so if you are planning on going make sure to check if it is open or not. We absolutely loved snorkeling here. It is the intracoastal so the waters were much more calm making me feel more safe for my kids to swim and snorkel, however when we were snorkeling by the rocks there is a strong current because there is an opening to the Atlantic from the Intracoastal. I actually went back to grab my life jacket while high tide was coming in just to be safe. We saw so many beautiful sea life. Tropical fish, hermit crabs, sea cucumbers, sting ray, big barracuda, inhabited live conch, etc etc. The water was very clear. The terrain is very rocky so just as all the other suggestions say do bring your swim shoes with good rubber soles. You really don't need fins. The water is very shallow here. A snorkel and mask is just fine. Do bring your own food and beverages with you as there are none for sale on the island itself. They do have water fountains but that is it. There is no alcohol allowed on the island. Because we went on a Wednesday the crowd was very light. I would imagine it gets much more busy on the weekends. When we returned to the Marina we found a cute splashpad that finished off our day trip nicely that the kids played in. We had such a great time and will be sure to be returning. I can't believe I live so close and have only just been here for our first time, but I guess there is a first time for everything.

My husband and I took a water taxi (Captain Joe's) arriving around 1:00pm. The last shuttle back was at 5:00. We found some palm trees to sit under, looking out over the sand bar. The island is very well kept and we had no problem bringing over a small cooler, a beach bag and two beach chairs. We spent a lot of time in the water and wish we had brought mask and snorkels. We were able to walk on the sand bar and there were not as many boats anchored...maybe because it was a hot Friday in August?

Take a water taxi (we used Captain Joe's, $10 pp round trip) to Peanut Island for a day trip; snorkeling in the lagoon and around the breakwalls was outstanding...time your visit for high tide. Lots of nice beaches, picnic tables, restrooms.

Go at slack tide and the water is beautiful. Lots of fish to see in the shallows while snorkeling. The artificial reefs don't have much growth on the yet, but the fish are abundant. Saw a huge angelfish, puffers, sheepshead, parrot fish, tangs, small blennys, etc. The park office has a map of the island to help you decide your route. We did not snorkel in the lagoon because it was zero visibility. Not sure why because the water was extremely clear at the beach. You will have a better experience snorkeling here than at Blue Heron bridge because of water clarity. You can take a water taxi from sailfish marina or go by personal boat, kayak or jet ski. There are boat slips or you can anchor out and swim in. Pretty place! Beach is very rocky, so wear water shoes or booties!

This is nice little island off Riviera Beach. The best is the JFK nuclear fallout shelter from the cold war era.

Bring plenty of sunscreen, food and water. The island has nothing but palm trees, sand, surf, birds and green lizards. Boats come in selling pizza and ice-cream. No chair or umbrella service. Snorkeling is good around the rocks and docks. Bring gear or rent before coming. Also you have to pay for a charter ferry or water taxi. The warm clear water was calm and inviting.

One word sums it up, awesome. Great for people of all ages who want to see tropical fish. Snorkel trail is very safe and tons of fish. Great day trip or an overnight camp, a must visit if in Riviera beach Florida

We LOVE camping (even day trips) at/to peanut island. Clean bathrooms, clean grounds, friendly staff and it’s just a boat ride away from “land”. We had four campsites this past trip and stayed for theee nights. There isn’t power at your site but there is running water. The outside of the bathroom building has a prep/wash dishes area with warm water. It’s a beautiful place.

It was a wonderful day for our fourth trip to peanut island. We went during high tide and we loved seeing the hundreds of tropical fish observed during our snorkeling adventure. Its always more fun than I think it will be.We will be back in October for another week

Very good place to enjoy a day trip. There is ferry service from Palm Beach coast. Note the timing of last boat if not staying night there. Carry your food along with.

I recently moved here for a career opportunity. This spot is a favorite for the wife and I. Bring a cooler with snacks and drinks. The water taxi is a fun ride with the crew. 12 bucks as a fare is well worth the swim with local sea life. Do not forget a snorkel set and be sure to go at high tide, the water is clearest then.

This is a terrific thing to do with the family as there are plenty of areas to snorkel. Bring your water shoes as it is very rocky in many areas. DO NOT RENT SNORKEL FROM water sports rental place (where they rent kayaks) near water shuttle as you can get it from water taxi people for much cheaper!

We've been to Palm Beach Shores many times over the past 10 years and have never gone to Peanut Island. We spent a delightful 3 hours walking and touring the JFK Bunker. We went on a Thursday since the bunker is open for tours, and not too busy. When you take the boat ride from Riveria Beach, your ticket entitles you to a $2 discount on the bunker tour. They also offer a senior discount.

Peanut Island is surrounded by white sand, crystal clear water, rock & coral formations, walking paths around the entire island and hidden lagoons to explore & it’s only a 5min ferry ride off shore. Bring just a towel or load up the cooler and cook out. You can spend an hour or all day but remember there are no stores on the island so bring what u need. There are grills, Tiki huts, picnic tables and restrooms. You can also camp overnight but I don’t know how that works. I have made many trips there and bring snorkels, food, drinks, beach chairs, tubes, sun block and a wagon to load it into. I also take my dog because it is dog friendly. Don’t pass up this easy over looked island day trip.

Short water taxi ride or kayak trip to this fantastic little island. Pack a towel and dive mask and you'll have a great time. No restaurants so bring your own food and drink... no alcohol allowed. Has a walk path around the perimeter of the island and restroom facilities. Maintained by Palm Beach County parks Dept. Great way to spend a nice day!

Our family of 6 - consisting of an 8 yr old, 11 yr old and 13 yr old, 2 adults and a 72 yr old grandmother, spent 5 hours at Peanut Island swimming in the lagoons. The beaches were wonderful. We saw manatees and lots of fish in the clear water. Try and time your visit to coincide with high tide so the water is the clearest. You will need to bring lots of water/ food and an umbrella since nothing is for sale and it’s not very shady. The bathrooms were clean and there is a shower to get rid of the sand. The ferry was easy to get on and off and was a fun ride. All in all this was a lovely family day! We will definitely be back!

(November 2017)
My 13 year old daughter and I visited Peanut Island as a last minute activity but we were extremely glad we made the trip out! We rented a double kayak from a place along the marina and made the short trip over to the Island. Once there, we walked around near the boat dock and then kayaked over to the Kennedy Bunker. Be careful of burrs in the sand around the boat dock! We walked barefoot up to the path from the beach and both of us got a burr in our foot. Sadly, due to Hurricane Irma, this side of the island had some broken buildings and the dock was broken. We walked around to the snorkeling part of the island. The snorkeling was great! We saw may types of fish and were able to get pretty close to them before they would swim away! The path around the island is well maintained and was a nice walk. The mangrove boardwalk was another cool discovery. All around, it was a great day trip and we would definitely recommend it.

I have been here twice and both times it was fantastic. You pay $12 to ride the ferry to the island or use your own boat.
It has great beaches for sunning and playing with kids. It has shade trees, cabanas and showers for your use. You can camp here as well. The boat launch store will bring you stuff if you need it from the cantina but there is nothing on the island.
By far the most impressive thing about the island is the snorkeling. This area is very well established as a great shore diving place. (see my review of Blue Heron bridge, which is literally across the intercoastal). You will not find a better variety of fish and crabs in a 5 foot deep snorkeling location. Wrasses, parrotfish, damsels, barracuda, jacks, crabs, angel fish, blennies, etc. They are everywhere. You could stay here all day and snorkel around the rocks for new stuff all the time. Schools of fish everywhere!
This a true gem for all snorkelers. All ages can swim these waters and see stuff you normally see out on far way reefs. There is even a lagoon that will bring lots of fish into shallow, calm waters. And did I mention... you can bring your pets here!

Just getting there is a fun adventure;I have gone by boat, kayak, jetski and parachute ok,just kidding.Try the first three!!
Now,it is a beautiful spot to enjoy nature and the beaches especially during high tide so bring your gear, picnic ,bbq, a lot of amenities grounds are kept clean.Of course weekends are Crowded...During the week is cool too!!!?

very nice short ferry ride. great place to snorkel, fish, kayak or just relax on the beautiful island and lagoon.

First time visit but definitely not last to this great park with clean beaches, camp sites and picnic areas, a pier, man made reef, and crystal clear water. My grandson loves snorkeling and he was amazed by the amount of shells, fish and sting rays he saw. Best time to snorkel is at high tide. The park is opened from sunrise to sunset and access is by ferry or a water taxi, pack smart, there are no stores or snack bars in the park.

Beautiful and leisurely walk. Great way to spend a few hours enjoying scenery and warm breezes. Would be nice for a picnic next time we go!

My wife and I had the opportunity to do a tour. So we got a kayak and headed over to Peanut Island. We spent most of our time snorkeling by the coral. It was amazing to see so many schools of fish, fish with brilliant colors, sting rays and more. My only regret is I needed a better water proof camera.

Such clear waters. Lots of fishes. Saw a sting gray and a crab! Clean bathrooms and waters stations to clean off after you’re done swimming. Such an amazing place!!

Despite the less than ideal January weather, the Gulf Stream brought many little fishes to Peanut Island Reef at high tide. (High tide is key here!) Even in early January with a wind, the water was calm and warm enough for a nice swim and good fish viewing. High point of our trip to the region in the unseasonably wet and cooler weather.

My son took me to Peanut Island and we went Kayaking I was afraid the first time then my nerve built up and I went out in the water Kayaking it was fun I really enjoyed myself I'm going back again.

Peanut island is a place where snorkeling is pretty cool , nice beach and a place to camping too ,I just went for the day .
I brought my food in the cooler and beverages so for families with a limited budget is an affordable trip .
The only thing is that at 5 pm you have to leave the island , and start to be in line just for 1 taxi company that will bring you back to the port where you park your car .
The question is why just 1 boat to bring people back and foward ?
I love peanut island !

Did some snorkelling there. Lots beach and easy access snorkelling. Well kept bathroom and changing facilities. Lots of benches to have your picnic lunch on. Captain joes water taxi service excellent. Highly recommend.

We went snorkeling here. Took the ferry over from the Sailfsh Marina. We wanted to take a few beers and just relax, but you have to have them covered. You technically aren't supposed to have alcohol unless you are camping there, but the ranger said a coozie over the can is ok. Saw lots of fish, the water was beautiful.

fun in the sun, clean, not to crowded. Kayaked over, spend the afternoon on beach and hiking. Park not open sadly. Wondered about ?Museum? - coast guard house. No current signs or info.

My husband and I went this past weekend and because I misunderstood I left all our beach gear in the car. But beside that I found it to be a nice little place to get wet.

During an 'off season' (mid April) visit to Singer Island, we had a visit to Peanut Island on our to do list. The water taxi wasn't running during the week so we rented a kayak from a place located just over the bridge in Rivera Beach. We picked up the kayak just under the bridge and kayaked over to the island which took about 15 minutes. There is a walking path around the entire Island. We did not visit bunker, as we had no money with us. Spent most of the time snorkeling.
My recommendations: Definitely make a trip over.
1. Snorkeling-I found great fish in ankle high water. Snorkel near the rocks. Go at high tide. Wait until tide comes in (you will see the water actually turn a different shade of blue-it's clearer and brings more fish so you will maximize your snorkeling.
2. Bring food. There is no food for purchase. There are barbecue grills that use charcoal. Wish we had, because it would have extended our stay. There is a boat in the bay that serves food and a boat that delivers pizza to the island.
3. If you enjoy kayaking, this a great place to do it, and you are not at the mercy of a water taxi.
4. There are bathrooms and outdoor showers available.
5. Beach is rocky so wear flippers or some sort of ocean/beach shoe.
6. Get a protective camera case and take under water pictures/videos. I had a hard time taking still shots but have great videos.
**I really wish we brought lunch and/money. If I had something to eat, I would have taken a break and snorkeled more, especially when I saw the water change to a clearer, light blue color. I would have love to explored the bunker more as well. For the time we were there, it was an amazing trip!

Nice fishing pier that's not too high off the water and pretty private especially on a weekday. Easy to pull off with kids. We caught Jacks, Snapper, saw a couple of Manta Rays too. Ferry over from the marina was $12 a person and runs every 15 minutes.

Great place to stop on boats. We beached the jet ski here to relax and have lunch. Its a very serene area and not crowded at all. Cant wait to go back and explore more of it.

So happy we found this gem and all its history. John F. Kennedy used it as his hunker safe place when visiting his home in Florida. So Sad big corporations are trying to take it over. The tour guide was lovely and a volunteer. PLEASE KEEP THIS GEM IN TACT.

Too busy during the weekends. Drunk crowds. Loud music. Frat house. Not a place for children. Can't drink on the island anymore. Great to paddle around and snorkeling on inlet side good.

We went to peanut island on a Saturday with my grown up daughter. It requires a ferry ride that is 12 dollars a person. There were lots of Haitians there partying on the island and people drinking adult beverages. The water is clear and you can see fish swimming. Ferries run every 20 min with last one at 5pm.

Went on a Snorkeling trip . The water was clear and park area very clean and well kept . Great place to snorkel around the rocks with beautiful fish .

This is a great place for a day on the water with a picnic lunch. Good swimming snorkeling. Barbecue grills are available. There are lots of tables. Some are covered. Put up your own cover. Have to have transportation to get there. There is a water taxi but did not use. We came by private boat.

What a wonderful surprise - PEANUT ISLAND! First of all - we were there when it was sunny, then started to rain (even thundered) about an hour later and we still could stay in the water and snorkel and no one cared it was raining. Lifeguards said it was fine, they would get us out if need be) Great raining day swimming! You take the water taxi from Sailfish Marina on Singer Island ($12 per person) - it runs a couple times a day, last pick up is 5:30. Go about 2 - 3 hours before High Tide and you will experience great water to snorkel (get a dry top snorkel) on the south west side. You'll see all types of fish - spot tail, puffer fish, barracuda, baby angel fish, parrot fish, etc. etc. Just fantastic! Suggest a life jacket or snorkel vest for weaker swimmers and kids. You will feel the pull of the current, so be careful if you are not a strong swimmer. You will be fine, just be aware of it.
The rocks are rough, so you'll want to be careful of banging into them, but also wear water shoes or flippers. We did fine with water shoes from $5 and Below. There are nice bathrooms and plenty of picnic tables. There is a pop machine on the southside by the Coast Guard House, but plan on bringing your own water/drinks/food. There are outdoor showers to rinse off the salt water. The beaches are rocky, so again - buy water shoes. Lifeguards are on duty for part of the island.
If you go during low tide - head to the northern part of the island and take your snorkel with you and swim out to the sand bar. We saw star fish and sea urchin and small jelly fish on the way out - it was awesome! It is not very deep - maybe it got up to our shoulders, but only for a few feet, then it starts get very shallow. It is fun to go out to the sand bar and have someone take your picture from shore. It looks like you are walking on water!
You can camp there, but only tent, we did not do this. We stayed at an ocean front resort and went to Peanut island twice.
If you take time to see President Kennedy bunker, you'll be with the tour for about 40 minutes. I loved the bunker - it was small, but something to see at least once in your life, but the coast guard house, while I'm sure others loved it, I didn't really care to see it, but it's part of the tour, so....I did it. The tour guide man was fantastic and so knowledgeable about the house and bunker, he gets an A+.
Take a bag with snacks/drinks. Take a bag with snorkel gear(snorkel and face mask) and water shoes and take a bag with towels, sunscreen and a change of clothes, if you want.
In conclusion - GO TO PEANUT ISLAND, you will not be disappointed.

Peanut Island is an amazing place to go with friends and family. In my opinion is better to go there than to a beach. It's also a nice place for camping and snorkeling. I recommend people to get there as early as they can because the line to get to the island gets bigger and bigger, and also I recommend you to bring some food and water as they don't sell anything there, but again is such an nice and beautiful place to go specially with kids.

This park is outstanding. I can’t wait to return. So many amenities: snorkeling, fishing, camping and picnic tables! A gem!

Beautiful views, very nice and clean beaches, lots of sea life for snorkeling. We took our kyack as well, it's only a short trip to the island. At low tide the sandbar surfaces and the party begins off shore. Nights are awesome this time of year for camping, our Mother's day night there was only 6 people on the entire island.

Hidden gem: I was born and raised in Florida but never heard about this place until after I moved to Ohio. We brought the kids here for the snorkeling to try and convince them to go through SCUBA certification, and ended up halfway wondering if WE ever needed to go diving again. Go at high tide to max out your experience. We’ve snorkeled all over the world, and only the Caribbean and Hawaii beat this for snorkel experience—but cost and ease (literally a couple steps offshore to fish) nearly equalizes this destination for underwater wildlife viewing. In an hour of snorkeling, we saw hundreds of more than 20 different species of fish. What’s more, the schools are so used to swimmers, they let you swim much closer to them than when you dive. My daughter and I also came last July, with nearly identical results. A winter visit might net you a swim with manatees, as the snorkeling lagoon and behind-the-island boat dock is a fave cold-weather hangout for them, but the water is decidedly colder than it was in July. (But you get used to it fast.) The snorkeling area is a straight shot from the Atlantic, so do check Palm Beach County beach information to ensure beaches are open/no major threats when you go.
Getting there: Peanut Island Shuttle Boat. They run 365/year (even Christmas Day) and will rent you snorkeling gear.
Side trip: if you come in the winter, don’t miss the FPL Manatee Center about a mile away—scores of manatees congregate at the plant outflow daily (esp early in day) to bask in the warmed-up water. Free to see!

We kayaked here from Riviera Beach. You can also take a water taxi. There are bathrooms, picnic tables, and an awesome walking path. This is a great alternative to an ocean beach day.

Great place to visit! Can also camp with prior approval....
There are grills if you bring charcoal and food for picnic. Covered areas and nice swimming areas.

My son in law here about Peanut Island Park from a co worker in NYC. Upon his arrival with his family he said we got to go there and right he was.
The experience each of the two under 10 year olds , the parents and grand parents we relived the day the whole trip home.
We drove to the Peanut Island water taxi dock. Paid our admission and waited for our water taxi. It took only about 15 minutes to get to the Island. Upon departure we found a great spot under some palm trees and park ourselves there fo the day.
You need to bring your own beach equipment ,towels, a cooler with food and beverage if you like plus charcoal if you are going to use of the the provided grills. . Plus going snorkeling, you need to bring those too. There are several large covered areas with picnic tables for the visitors of the day.
The grounds were really clean . There is overnight camping available too. You need to bring everything for that too. The camp area is fenced for privacy and unwanted visitors,
Many private boats pulled into the bay area to enjoy there day at the Peanut Island. Too.
There is a rocked areas surrounded a large lagoon for snorkeling .
There are bathrooms near the first picnic area . Very centrally located. There is also a walking path around the Park that's probably just over a mile in length.
The water taxi runs every 30 minutes or so, and the last one is at 5:00 PM daily.
There is all kinds of activities for all ages and we are certainly planing to come here again next year.

I went to Peanut Island because I knew that was where the Kennedy bunker was and after I heard it was (sadly) closing as no one will fund it to keep it up (the state), I wanted to see it. WHAT A SURPRSE! The big reveal was Peanut Island is a county park complete with docks, nice facilities, campgrounds, paved path completely around the island, and so much more. I was also surprised, as a local, about the new Riviera Beach Marina which I where I took their shuttle to Peanut Island. It is exceptionally nice, great parking lot, has lots of activities and rentals for boats, paddle boards, jet skis, etc. and also and except Tiki Hut bar and restaurant. All in all, the best thing about the whole 3 to 4 hours of my visit was discovering a really, nice park and the Riviera Marina. Very sad that no one wants to keep up the old Coast Guard station and the Kennedy Bunker history. It is sadly in need of repair and a major upgrade to become a worthwhile venture, but it is a key part of Palm Beach history that should be maintained for future generations. How about some of the rich Palm Beachers that have nothing better to do with their money, pony up to save the bunker and make it a prime Palm Beach County attraction along with the already GREAT Peanut Island?

We went to the beach for a few hours and loved every minute. The locals were having a good time, we had our portable speaker and rested after snorkeling. There is enough space to stretch out so your not over crowded. For the amount of people around, I did not see trash on the beach. Lifeguards are awesome!

Rented a kayak and took my sister here for her visit from up North. Nicely kept and nice walking trail and place to snorkel.

Love this little island. Snorkeling is usually great, especially if you're there for high tide. $10 round trip boat ride is well worth the money. This is a 'must do' when the grandkids come down. Beach is sheltered for little ones, snorkeling is good for the older ones. Nice picnic areas and pavilions. Only problem is they shut down the little restaurant/snack shop. Sad loss to the island and the tourists there. I'm not sure what the Port of Riviera is thinking by doing that, but wish they'd reopen. This is the only thing the kids repeatedly ask to do, and it's also a frequent trip for our snorkel club.

Unique experience... Though crowds take the water taxi over for the day, we decided to camp overnight here. When you arrive as a camper, you check in at the office, close to where the ferry drops you off. Pricing depends on different factors, but total cost will include camping fee, ferry fee, and possible parking fee. Holidays are more expensive. The park features bathrooms with showers near the camping area. It is also nice that the camping area is fenced and protected from visitors. Campsites have a sand base, with shrubs and trees around them, offering privacy between sites. They also have fresh water spigots between them. I would recommend a camp site close to the beach side for the nicest breeze. We stayed at site 11, which was great except for an occasional urine smell where someone assumedly chose not to use the restrooms and peed near the site in the trees (yuck). You can purchase firewood at the office when you check in for the fire pit area. Each site has a small grill. We chose to rough it with PB & Js and trail mix for one night, but you could bring a cooler and charcoal and cook out.
The entire island has a well maintained path that goes around it, nice for walking. There was a ton of beach real estate, so even when it is busy, there seems to be room for all. Many pavilions, tables, and bathrooms around. Overall the park seemed well maintained and very clean.
Our favorite activity was snorkeling at the lagoon. Make sure to check when high tide is scheduled. It makes a huge difference in the water clarity. For us that was around 10:30am, and since that is before the arrival of the first water taxi, we had the lagoon all to ourselves. There are many rocks around the perimeter of the lagoon where fish like to hide, as well as in the middle throughout. The best place we found to snorkel was near/under the bridge to the lagoon. We saw many large angel and parrotfish there, as well as a small barracuda and schools of smaller silver and yellow fishes. There is no way to rent equipment, so make sure to bring your own mask, fins, and snorkel.
Much better idea to camp overnight and have the island to yourself in the evenings and morning. Hope to be back soon!

We had a perfect day to visit Peanut Island Park. After a short boat shuttle, we were on the island, where we had about a ten minute scenic walk on a brick paved trail to the Coast Guard Boathouse. Along the way, we passed picnic and beach areas being enjoyed by families and their dogs. The water looked so clear and inviting, I wished that had been part of our plan. At the boathouse we were given a brief history of the U.S.C.G. duties on Peanut Island dating back to 1790. After that, we toured the C.G, Station, where we met Jack, the resident cat, quite a friendly guy. From there, our group headed to the JFK Bunker, which would have protected President Kennedy in the event of a nuclear attack. We were fortunate to tour this site before it closes indefinitely on 10/22/17.

I went solo just to see what was going on at this interesting hunk of sand in the middle of the Lake Worth Lagoon/intracoastal waterway. It was well worth the visit, although I didn't realize that the JFK Bunker and Museum is only open--at least at this time of year--Thursday-Sunday, so unfortunately I didn't get to explore them. The park contains a nice walking path around the island, a campground, lovely sand beaches, a lagoon for snorkeling, a number of wildlife areas accessible by well constructed board walks, clean restrooms and several docks for private boat use. I took the water taxi there from the Sailfish Marina on Singer Island--$12 round trip on a convenient schedule. It took me about 70 minutes to explore the island, with time left to read a book on one of the many park benches before my water taxi arrived to return me to the Sailfish. In addition to enjoying the park atmosphere, Peanut Island is a great place to view the surrounding waterways, boats, marinas, condos, etc. If you decide to visit other than Thursday-Sunday, be sure to bring along a bottle of water and some snacks, as I was unable to find any refreshments on the island.

Beautiful park - get there with a water taxi. We swam at the beach and the deeper swimming area. Tons and tons of beautiful fish. Great shallow and deep swimming / snorkeling with beautiful fish, rocks and some sort of wreck near shore. We didn't camp but the camping area looked great. Theres also clean bathrooms, showers and a meritime museum, not to mention the JFK bunker.

We went completely unprepared! We when we arrived on the boat we saw people with barbecues, food , drinks etc... and we only had our beach bags. So we asked if there was food on the island and they said yes water and chips.
OMG the shop is pathetic, not even nice , they sell some drinks and yes chips! Only chips. We walked to the beach and were really fat from that shop. My husband walked back to the shop to buy more water. Really strange ! Thank god a boat arrived selling pizzas and cokes !!! In the sea ! That was like a miracle. So if you decide to go there go very well prepared ! Umbrellas lots of drinks to hydrate and food as there is nothing there. The boat ride cost 12$ per person no discount for children, so it is expensive to get there. I would rather go to a regular beach

What a great low cost day to spend with friends and family. Lots to do In one day. There is a walking trail, JFK Bunker, Coast Guard station, a snorkel trail and swimming. A smart and beautiful addition to the area.

We kayaked out to this island from the marina. It isn't marked extremely well, but there is a kayak drop-off area at the marina and free parking. The kayak ride out to the island is easy. We were a little confused where to snorkel when we first arrived, but if you go to the east side of the island there are many rock piles. You just snorkel around the rock piles and you will see a ton of beautiful fish. It's really nice as it is mostly in 4-8 feet of water and very close to shore. Be careful as there can be some tides depending on where you go, but nothing too bad. It was great snorkeling for our kids as it was easy and there was a great variety of fish to see.

What was supposed to be a wonderful day exploring nature on Peanut Island, a supposedly protected state park located at the mouth of the Lake Worth Inlet in Palm Beach County, Florida, it ended up as nothing but a loud, party packed venture full of beached private boats, loud music, and questionable waters. It is advertised to have kayaking, fishing, snorkeling in crystal blue waters - this is not fact...any water sports are done in murky waters amidst a ton of motor boats and crusty piers. To get to the island you need to take a ferry which costs $25/pp round trip (unless you rent a boat for the day and beach it with the mountain of other boaters doing the same). The island is supposed to house a secret bunker built in 1961 for John F. Kennedy. The bunker would have been cool to see had it not closed in 2017 for renovation to reopen to the public at some undisclosed time in the future. Extremely disappointing and not worth visiting.

Peanut Island is a great place to take a picnic lunch and enjoy this secluded peaceful island right in the middle of Palm Beach County. The water is beautiful; there were tons of sunbathers, pattleboarders and snorkelers. I want to do an overnight camp sometime. But probably the best part was getting to the island on Captain Joe's Peanut Island Ferry. Captain Joe and his crew are great. My dad is almost blind and Capt. Joe and his daughter were so good about making sure he got on and off the boat safely. The price was reasonable, but I would pay whatever Capt. Joe was asking for that kind of service. Thank you, Capt. Joe for making this a memorable day of our vacation!

We visited the island by taxi (young children) and by kayak (teenagers).
Once on the island we used the beaches and had great fun.
A storm was coming in on our way back but it was still ok to kayak, just!
Worth a visit

We were staying on Singer Island and took the water taxi for $15/pp round trip out of Sailfish Marina. Peanut Island is probably 50 yards from Singer Island, if you have a kayak it would be fun to kayak out there. There is not much shade along the water so bring an umbrella and lots of sunscreen. Make sure you pack plenty of water and food as well as youre subject to the Taxi's transportation times if you needed to get off the island. They had public bathrooms and outdoor showers. Thought alcohol is not allowed on the island the employees working at the gift shop where we purchased the taxi tickets said we can take alcohol on the island. Just confusing what's allowed and what's not.
A nice view to see all the boats coming up to shore - I think the docks on the island are free to dock your boat if you have one. There are plenty of fish to see (we even saw some nurse sharks) so bring your snorkeling gear! We saw a tour group of snorkelers come to the island to snorkel. Hint; save yourself some money and just do it yourself, its not any type of snorkeling worth paying for, bring your own goggles.

We took our snorkeling gear and caught the shuttle to Peanut Island. I was a bit disappointed in the snorkeling. The lagoon and outlet to the bay was cloudy. Snorkeling around the reefs, however, was much clearer and we saw lots of fish. We had hoped to see manatees but did not. The island is well supplied with picnic shelters and clean bathrooms. Drinking water is available. A walk around the island is easy on a paved path. There are beaches and shady areas available. I'd like to try snorkeling again during a different season.

Very cool little island to come visit for the day. I need to be up front, you need to bring everything when you come here. Water, food, etc.. while you're here make sure you visit JFK bunker, cool little piece of history. I enjoyed scuba diving all the docks and seeing the fish and finding treasure.

The ferry is kinda high for the venue according to other ferry sites. It’s a very short ride. Peanut island was a nice place to visit and snorkel. Bring your own gear Bring your own food.

The water taxi is about 5 minutes. The path around the island is a nice walk. There are restrooms and covered areas to eat lunch. Couldn't believe all the schools of fish around the rocks right next to shore.

Spent a Sunday there recently with 3 young children. I would recommend going early in the day as it did get crowded later in the day. I would also pay attention to the tide as apparently there is better visibility for snorkeling at low tide. We were there at high tide but the kids still enjoyed the snorkeling and saw many fish and crabs. We were able to get a picnic table under a covered pavilion which was great. We packed a picnic but many around us were grilling. We noticed boats docked a short walk off the beach that sold snacks and one that delivered pizza! We also enjoyed the short water taxi ride to and from the island. This is a fun day, I recommend it!

Even for a novice snorkelers this was an awesome experience that was worth the $12 pontoon boat ride! Shallow, calm waters, many fish to observe and a great day away to a bit of paradise during this unusual time!

We drove two hours to go to Peanut Island and it was definitely worth it. The water was crystal clear and there were tons of fish. We snorkeled for 4 hours until the tide went out. You definitely want to get there at high tide. The water taxi was $10 each and is the only way to get there (unless you have your own boat). The snorkeling area is well protected and has life guards. As long as you stay in the protected area, you don't need a diver-down flag. Our best experience in Florida so far!

Kayak across the channel to snorkel. The water was clear and the fish beautiful. We were surprised to learn that the Gulf Stream hits the continent right at that spot. It was interesting to notice the increase in water temperature as we snorkeled around.

We visited with small children. The beach is rocky, so bring your water shoes, but the water is knee deep for a 50 ft or more from the beach. Warm water and perfect for non-swimmers. Also got in the deeper area to snorkel. Water was murky that day, but we still enjoyed it. Changing areas are very nice and the picnic/bbq pavilions are great.
We will DEFINITELY be back.

We visited Peanut Island twice. The first time we visited, we toured the JFK fallout shelter (open Thurdays - Sundays only) and walked around this man made island. The second time, we snorkeled on the southeastern side of the island. That area has a beach, man made rocky reefs, a lifeguard, as well as bathrooms and a freshwater shower.
If you want the best visibility, snorkel an hour or two before high tide. You can find out when high tide is by searchiing online for "Port of Palm Beach tide tables."
We snorkeled in mid-February, and you will do best with a 3 or 5 mil wetsuit since the water is a little chilly..
You'll see lots of small tropical saltwater fish including some larger schools, especially on the back side of the rocky reefs. Caution: the current can get strong so make sure you go no further than the reefs, and having fins will make things easier for you.
There is also a lagoon nearby where you might find some manatees. We saw two manatees as we walked back to the dock but were disappointed that we did not have a chance to swim with them.
Captain Joe will take you to Peanut Island for only $10 per person. He operates a water taxi out of the Riviera Beach Public Marina (200 E. 13th Street, Riviera Beach, FL) Find him on the IInternet (Peanut Island Water Taxi.) There is free parking at the public marina, as well as clean restrooms.

We took the short water taxi .ride over to Peanut Island. We took the tour of the Coast Guard Station and Kennedy Bunker. It was interesting, but not the highlight of our vacation. Nice to walk around the island - about a mile - lots of areas for swimming and snorkeling. We were there on a weekend and it was busy - lots of motor boats. We did bring a picnic lunch and water.

Take the water ferry from the park out to Peanut Island. Its a quick 10 minute ride. Great snorkling in shallow water. Go at high tide for the best clarity. This is an easy snorkle even for kids.

We got there early and got a good spot in the shade. The snorkeling was mediocre at first but cleared up by the afternoon as the tide came in. We saw stingray, barracuda, parrotfish, pufferfish, and so much more. It was amazing to me that there were so many fish congregating in an area with so many people. Some people seemed to respect the fish, of course, others did not.
I would probably go again, but not for a long long time. Good place to take little kids and teach them how to snorkel. I prefer places with less people and more freedom to snorkel about without lifeguards blowing their whistle at you.

We have taken our family here 2x now. Once, last year in July and we took the ferry. The ferry was a simple process and they left every 20 mins. The island was amazing and we all snorkelled. Saw lots of colorful fish and the grounds were great. We brought our food and got a picnic table under a huge tiki covering. There were several other tables under there also. Very spacious.
The second time was a couple of weekends ago. We brought our boat and used one of the day slips on the island. What a great thing to offer. Once again snorkelled and had a great time. My only complaint is the grounds were full of trash. The beaches, the walkways, everywhere you went there was just trash. So that was disappointing. But going to this island is SO worth it.

Been in West Palm Beach for almost two years and finally made it to Peanut Island a couple of days ago. What a beautiful place. If you like snorkeling, this place is awesome. Saw all kinds of beautiful fish, just wish I had a GoPro already. Getting one before going back for sure. We got there at high tide and the water really isn't that deep where you go to snorkel. Even my mom that isn't very good at swimming and even scared to go out too far enjoyed it very much, she even got to see two baby sharks ! Never saw her spend so much time in the water before.
We took the ferry for $12 each. You can bring your chairs, umbrella and coolers with you. They have shaded picnic areas too.
You can also visit the John F. Kennedy bunker and Palm Beach maritime museum.
Had been to the Blue Heron bridge at Phil Foster Park many times which is really nice but this beats it for sure !

Peanut Island Shuttle Boat- Having been using the shuttle to get over to Peanut Island for years, Great crew and extremely friendly. I love taking to Peanut Island you feel as your on a tropical island in the Caribbean. The best snorkeling hands down. Here's to many more trips to come!

Take your weekend company on a fun excursion for very low cost! The Peanut Island Ferry (Shuttle) only cost about $10 and then the tour is just several $$'s more. When you return be sure to go to the "TIKI Hut" (not the correct name) there at the marina for the Mahi Mahi sandwich. All around an awesome day!

I had a fantastic day here snorkeling and swimming in the clear water. Lots of fish to see..brilliant for children..so shallow in the lagoons...Hope I can back here again before the end of my holiday.

Water is crystal clear and not wavy. Lots of rock breakers which are great for snorkeling! Many many fish and shells. Bring your snorkel gear and a picnic lunch and plan to spend the day! Boat was $20pp and it's $5 more to bring your wagon.

Whether strolling along the paths, stopping for a picnic, kayaking or snorkeling...there is a lot to do and enjoy. Half the fun is on the mainland where you catch the boat to ferry you over from Riviera Beach where there is the Tiki Waterfront Sea Grille. Good food, moderately priced. On the island there are a couple of historic sites you can visit which are also reasonably priced.Admission is $14 for adults; $12, seniors; $8 children 5- 17. This includes both the bunker and the maritime museum in the Coast Guard station, but does not include transportation to the island. Transportation was $10 the last time we went in 2017. All in all a great place to visit that won't hurt your budget.

Incredible! Camped for 3 nights. Pristine sites with friendly staff. You have to bring all you need. No place to purchase anything on the island but that makes it all the more special. The water is indescribably beautiful. I recommend bringing your own snorkeling gear but you can rent at the marina.
Water spigots throughout the camp. A grill at each site. Only electric outlets are 1 double outlet in the pavillion and the restroom. Warm showers accessible only to campers with a passcode.
Large wheel barrels (barrows?) available are the office for transporting items from the ferry to and from your site. Campground office on the right (north) side of the campground.
You will not regret your decision to camp here!

A nice clean place to enjoy the day. No food so package your snacks or lunch. There is water. We did not stay all night, but it look like it would be fun. Nice restrooms.

Our visit to the island was the highlight of our vacation! Shuttle was easy. Island waters and beach are lovely. Crystal blue and lots of shallow nooks to lounge in the water. The snorkeling was perfect for our beginner family with elementary and teens kids. Nice paths around the island. Clean bathrooms. Lots of picnic tables and open space. We will definitely return if we travel in this area again.

Took the 10am shuttle to the island. It gets kind of expensive if you have a large group. The water was clear and shallow near the main beach but be careful near the rocks because they will cut you. Also had one of the kids have an allergic reaction to some exposure to Man of Wars that were washing up on the beach which resulted in a trip to Urgent Care. Warn your kids not to touch them because we saw a boy try to touch one on the beach.
Beautiful views and swimming but it gets really hot in the sun and there is very limited shade available. Plan well for drinks, food, sunscreen and even umbrellas and chairs or towels if you plan to stay awhile. Nice path to walk around the island.

A little bit of history - JFK bunker is interesting ride on boat to island is pleasent
overall a nice day out

We had a great day of relaxation on Peanut Island. Did some mask diving, sun bathing and walked around the island. It’s like a quick Bahamas trip.

Riviera Beach marina is much improved and the water taxi is no longer run by Capn. Joe . There is a new company running the taxi service - really nice guys, full of great advice and very cheerful. They drop and collect every 15 minutes so no hassle (as before) of having to have a USA phone so you can ring for collection.
The island is great, quiet when the bunker is closed (Monday - Wednesday) amazing snorkelling, clear, warm water, friendly lifeguard who lent me some tweezers to get splinter out of my foot.
My tip - wear sea shoes.
NEW TIP - I was told on this trip that the Bunker is closing down at the end of October 2017 and being passed back to the Parks & Rec Dept but not being opened to the public.

I had a lot of fun snorkeling in the calm waters, I saw some fish I’ve never seen before and watched a lot of small crabs eating off a mossy rock.

Accessible by shuttle boat from Riviera Beach in 10 minutes. Near the shuttle is the Rafiki Tiki restaurant, good food, outdoor bar, dogs are allowed outdoors. Unfortunately, the first boat doesn’t start until 10h, so it’s already hot and muggy in May. (Free parking near shuttle boat.) Last return 17h. Peanut Island is located between the mainland and Palm Beach Island. Beautiful beach, trees provide shade, water maximum waist depth and in May 28 degrees warm, camping and barbecue facilities. There are no bars or other catering, so bring food and drinks. Dogs are allowed but must be on a leash.

This was a fun day at a great park. Perfect for kids. Safe shallow water with sandy bottom. Get there early to grab the best spots and leave by 3 PM or you will be in a long line waiting for the boat.

It's a nice little boat ride to get there and back. A lagoon for safe swimming for little ones. Beautiful location. JFK' bomb shelter is there. I've Walden around the entire island in 90 minutes. A breezy day is recommended if it's a hot , sunny Sun screen , hat and big repellent recommend.
Consider this a mature walk, swimming activity and boat ride. Recommend high tide. 😉🌴

Peanut island was lovely . It was a fun, informative 10 minute ferry ride to the family friendly island. It is also dog friendly!! The water was crystal clear and we saw many fish, a manatee and a string ray . Don’t forget your drinks and snacks and none are available. Someone should definitely open a snack shack on the island as it would do well!

Snorkeling: Human-made rock barriers and lagoon provide protected, calm waters for snorkeling. Colorful reef fish and crabs, plus the occasional rays, octopuses, turtles, upside-down jellyfish, and manatees, make it worth your while. For your picnic, Peanut Island has grassy areas with pavillions, tables, and grills under palm trees. Get there via water taxi (from the Riviera Beach Marina) or in your own kayak. Tip: Look at the tide charts and plan to snorkel when the tide is coming in.

We took the ferry to peanut island. it took about 15 mins. We rented all the gear for snorkeling from Pura Vida divers.
Shallow waters, nice beautiful fishes especially near the rocks. Fun activity.

I love peanut Island! This was our den one time visiting the area. It’s amazing how many fish you can see, just by walking out a short distance with snorkels. There is also a lot of history on the island.

This is a great activity for your family when visiting the Palm Beach area. You take a water taxi on a short ride to the island and can return 2 times per hour. There are iguanas on the island and supposedly manatees, which we didn't see. (I don't believe they exist. I've been coming to Florida all my life and have NEVER seen one, even when kayaking in so called densely populated manatee areas.)
Soon, there will be access to a bunker built for President Kennedy during the Cold War when he visited the Kennedy compound in Palm Beach.
We went just off season
You might find it necessary in season to book in advance.
All in all, a delightful day.

When we heard of it we got so excited! Once we got there we did some snorkeling and saw big fish and barracudas! We had lunch and had a blast!
We highly recommend to take the chance to visit this small island of your near Palm beach!

Peanut Island is a great place to go with the family and/or friends. You can take your own boat and access is free or you can take the ferry for $10 per person. The ferry crew are an acquired taste but not bad enough as to ruin your day. No alcohol on the island! There are lots of places to barbecue and the bathrooms are very well kept. Great snorkeling spots all around the island. Suggestion to arrive as early as possible for the best spots get taken quick and the place fills up as the day goes by...first ferry leave at 9:30am.

An amazing captain with pristine equipment, guided tutorials, and a beautiful boat. Very knowledgeable and realizes the importance of safety. A must-have experience for all ages!

We visited Peanut Island on January 22nd. It was a beautiful warm, breezy day. We picked up the boat ride from the marina at E. 13th Street in Riviera Beach, about 30 minutes north of Delray. The staff was well organized. They took credit cards for our party of 5 @ $12/each person. Pets can go over to the island, but must be leashed; no charge.
We were able to rent snorkel gear from the boat captain (@ $20), who was VERY knowledgeable about the local area, high tides and snorkeling. If you can bring your own snorkel gear, definitely do that. They also had life vests for rent, if you planned to go further out into the waters or have a little one. There were plenty of fish and coral to see underwater. We did see very large fish that resembled small sharks, but I'm not sure what they were. We did not see any manatees. There were lifeguards around the island, but not in every lifeguard stand. They were very vigilant!
Once you docked at the island, there was a small boat house with things to buy, including snacks, but I didn't see anything that would suffice as "lunch". So, if you plan to stay, pack food and beverages, ice and utensils. They had plenty of picnic areas, both covered and open. Some even had bbq grills.
There is a paved walkway around the island, which makes bringing coolers or strollers easier. The docks were easily accessible and very well maintained. The bathrooms were very clean. There were doggie ditty-bag posts in a couple spots on the trail. We saw several island workers in golf carts cruising around, cleaning up the areas. They were also helpful with island info.
Things to bring: cash or credit card, i.d. if you want to rent snorkel gear, underwater camera- or regular camera, water shoes (since the shore is extremely rocky), towels, band-aids, sunblock, lunch, snorkel gear, burgers and franks, if you want to grill there.
We went as a family with a teen and a couple of 20 year olds. They all had a great time. We will return soon, because we never made it to the bunker. And that just seems so cool.

A wonderful place to snorkel or just hang our in the water. Make sure that you pay attention to the tides, you want to go at high tide. The incoming tide brings in beautiful clear blue water with great visibility. When the tide goes out, the water is not as nice. Love this place.

Peanut island is absolutely amazing. I have been quite a few times because I have family in West palm. It has always been perfect. You can snorkel, swim, pack a lunch, camp out and walk around the island. There’s the peanut island water taxi for $12 a person round trip that runs all day. You can also rent kayaks and paddle boards to go out there! There are reefs that are crystal clear DURING high tide and on a bright sunny day. The water will get murky if it’s cloudy with no sun with wind. This past visit it was very cloudy and very windy, the water was murky until the high tide came in. We had clear water for a little over an hour. Still had an amazing time. Definitely worth the time and visit. By far the best snorkeling adventures I’ve had.
ALSO we did encounter very very small clear jellyfish with NO tentacles and we did not have any issues with them. I recommend wearing pools shoes.

Living in a state with hundreds of miles of beach makes it hard to justify the cost and inconvenience of getting to Peanut Island Park. Once there, your experience depends on how annoying or obnoxious other visitors around you are being. It was hard to find a quiet place to relax. While there, we explored the Kennedy Bunker (a place for the family to wait out a nuclear bomb!). It was interesting, but quite rushed. There is not an opportunity to read about the different things in the bunker before the docent is lining us up to leave. All in all, an expensive day at the beach.

We took paddle boards and there is also a ferry provided to get over to the island and set up camp for a night or two. I would suggest going after October as there may be less bugs, the no-seeums where the worst part you don't feel them until the next day, so stay covered up and enjoy the water! There are showers and a few nice decks which you can fish from. All in all it was a nice experience and we will go back. #kytabeezexperience

We had Family in town and wanted to snorkel. Peanut Island was a quick trip on the Peanut Island Shuttle. It was a great day for snorkeling, the visibility in the water was marvelous! We saw many types of fish including parrot fish, barracuda, and spade fish, and my son and brother in law saw a manatee. A great outing! We also walked around and saw the entrance to the Kennedy Bunker. The history of the island is worth googling.

I went with me family to the island and it was so fun. We barbecued and ate and went snorkeling, it was fun and cool. I walked along the island and it was really pretty.

My family of 5 kayaked over to peanut island. We went to the reef to snorkel. It was a great day. We did not visit the JFK bunker. The best part was there was a huge sandbar in the middle of the water next to the island. I rated it 4 stars because my son cut his foot on rocks and I got stung by a jelly fish. Definitely bring water shoes!!!

Awesome snorkeling, at higher tide, did have a shark come into lagoon a few times, awesome. Family friendly with restroom and picnic areas, I believe camping available. Awesome Kayak trip from the beach, watch the channels for marine traffic, especially on weekends. I prefer weekdays, weekends can have inexperienced boaters with loud varying types of music, blaring at same time, but still good time. Strongly recommend a kayak/snorkel trip out to Peanut Island if possible, and tour bunker, if you can.

My main interest was to venture the island and then spend the rest of the day on the beach. They need to reopen the Kennedy bunker. However, the rest of the island was nice. Love it that it’s pet friendly and you can camp out overnight with very nice facilities. Would love to try that one day.

We spent most of our week long vacation right here snorkeling around the water. It was breath taking and such a fun place. There are a decent amount of boaters that anchor up here, but so much space for everyone to still enjoy the natural beauty!!

We had a wonderful time on the island. After going to Singer Island for the past 14 years and not visiting Peanut Island, it was about the only thing we had not done. Everything we read said there was nothing there and no food on the island. Boy did they get it wrong. The JFK bomb shelter is amazing. Karey, who was our guide on the island did a fantastic job sharing the history of the island with pictures and a 10 minute introduction. Then she took us to the Coast Guard Station and the 1600 sq foot bomb shelter. We had 2 teens with us who thought it was fantastic. There is also a 1.3 mile trail around the island that you can hike. The snorkeling looked fun too. There is a pristine campground where you can stay on the island overnight. Call 561-845-4445 for info. There is food in the boathouse. Drinks, snacks and ice cream are all available for purchase. The birds you will see are a nice bonus! There are several ways to get to the island: Sailfish Marina Water Taxi, Riviera Beach Marina: Peanut Island Water Taxi Col, and Palm Beach Maritime Museum Fast Ferry Service.
Do call Peanut Island ahead of your visit to make sure the buildings are open on the day you want to go. 561-233-2400.

There are many different things to do but a lot does depend on the weather. We went on a cloudy windy day but enjoyed our experience.
It is not a manicured park but rather rustic with plenty of picnic tables and restrooms
There are numerous small beaches and one larger area for snorkeling
People were snorkeling the day we were there
The walk around the island takes about 40 minutes and is on a paved road
The view from the west is not great (industrial, boat yards, freight boats)The view from the east is of Palm Beaches mansions
The JFK Nuclear Bunker is worth the trip It is fascinating that it was built here and so few people are aware of its existence. I wonder if our new President even knows it is here minutes from his Alt White House
There is a very good docent tour of the bunker and the Coast Guard house There is a charge for the tour with $2 off with the ferry ticket
The island also offers a camping site with advance reservations

We kayaked to Peanut Island. Walked around the island and swam there. There are restrooms and drinking fountains. A big boater beach destination and also tent camping.

Beautiful little island that is easy to get to. Safe snorkeling. Not a lot of “riff raff” because folks have to pay to ferry over and there is no alcohol allowed ($12 per person ferry). Nice to stand in the water and watch the kids swim. Fun to watch huge private watercraft go by. Not much in the way of fish... kids saw a sting ray and jelly fish. Some really nice fish were under the dock, but they didn’t venture to the “snorkel area”. Still, a fun fairly inexpensive time for a family of 4.

Peanut Island is a hidden gem in Florida. It does require using a water taxi or another water craft to get to the island. The island provides excellent beaches, clear water, clean restrooms, and even barbecue places. We did much during our time on the island, from walking the 1.25 trail to exploring areas. We enjoyed a great picnic in the shade near the swimming lagoon. Then enjoyed snorkeling on the east reefs. So many colorful fish. To the north of Peanut Island, many boats are anchored in the sandbar. It is easy to walk and swim in this location area.

Wow what a great place to visit!!! Took the ferry to the island and it cost $12 a person. This was our first trip here. The sand is so soft and the water was great. High tide the water is so clear and there were so many fish. Great snorkeling for kids to adults.

Excellent. Try to get there early to avoid the crowds. I've been snorkeling for years. I've snorkeled in Australia, the Bahamas, mexico and more... The reef they've created there is amazing. You won't see anything you haven't seen before but i LOVE snorkeling there! At the marina you can rent a boat, kayak, paddleboard or jetski and boat to the island. Its not far from the shore. But it is very well maintained - excellent facities - bathrooms, grills, etc. You'll see heaps of boats anchored just off shore on a sandbar and everyone having a good time. A must visit.

Kayaking over to Peanut Island was easy and we went on a calm water day. I would recommend snorkeling near the rock outcrops and was surprised to see the variety of fish. The water was shallow closer to the beach and makes it easier for less
experienced snorkelers. Make sure to wear reef safe mineral sunscreen to protect the coral reef and fish. There are bathrooms on the island but no other amenities. Nice trails to walk the island.

It was absolutely beautiful we had so much fun there.Great swimming snorkeling lots of fish out by the rocks we just enjoyed it all day

Cute place. Windy day and current was strong. Was a cool day so i did not snorkel, mostly b/c the other tourists there said they did not see anything worth jumping in for. Water is very clear n blue. Tour of JFK's Bunker was worth every dollar of the $16 it cost me, especially b/c Ozzie Osborne n his son were there filming just before us. Takes about 20-30 min to get thru. Bring a towel, chair n snorkel gear. Under the bridge seems to be the best place to cop a squat n relax. Lots of kids. Taxi is about 10 min long if that.

I went to visit Peanut island to check out the snorkeling. I brought my own equipment and it was a very easy approach, from the shore to snorkel areas in the water. It is quite shallow and the waters were very calm with great visibility. The park is kept very clean and was a nice place to spend a couple hours (I only had time for 2 hours the day I went). I would definitely go back again

Short 10 minute boat ride to the island. Sandbars everywhere... just bring enough shade, food and drinks, just watch out for boats!

A little gem. Accessible by short ride in boat or water taxis. No condos/homes. Small, clean beach, with small lagoon for great snorkeling. Bring gear and let loads of fish surround you.

Park is free. $10 per person at Riviera Marina to take a water taxi with Capt Joe to island. 10 minute ride. Great snorkeling. Saw many fish and no waves. There are many pavilions for picnics, benches, bathrooms. Can bring coolers. No rules. Some sandy beaches but should bring water shoes. If you just want the beach and waves then go to Riviera Beach instead.

Many ways to get here. Captain Joes taxi from Riviera Beach Marina, your own boat, kyak, or paddle board.
Nice facilities. A great place to snorkel.

Gorgeous clear water 1 hour before high tide through high tide with lots of beautiful fish seen snorkeling. A bit of a breeze on beach but still pleasant enough to picnic and rest on the sand. We always enjoy walking around island to see birds, fish and boats.

This place is pristine and a must see. We rented kayaks from Singer Island Outdoor Center and kayaked to the island (20 min). You can also take the Peanut Island Ferry (200 E. 13th St, Riviera Beach) which leaves every 30 min. I will do that next time so that we can bring more stuff for a picnic. There are sheltered picnic areas with barbecues, lifeguards, a snorkeling area that was fantastic, outdoor showers and bathroom facilities. This is a great place to bring the whole family and hang out. At low tide the water is knee to waist deep.

We love to go there to stay for a beach day. We can walk around the island. Kids can play in the "lagoon" trying to catch small fishes.

You can kayak here from various places, or take a water taxi. The breezes are so cool on a hot day so have fun!

Saw an amazing number of fish including parrotfish, cuttlefish, barracuda, angel fish, nudibranch... and the cove for snorkeling is great for beginners and kids. The current can be strong towards the rocks in front of the lifeguard chair so be careful on that side. Worth the trip and loved every second! Must go at high tide or there will not be much to see. (Also, one side of the island is more of a party side so we stayed away from there.) go early and get a cabana.

What an awesome little island well worth whatever cost. Quaint gift shop with helpful staff. Feed the fish. Swim. Build sand castles. Snorkel. Visit the bunker. Lots of fun

We went completely unprepared! My husband read that you should plan to go 30 min before high tide and leave 30 min after. Somebody was telling a lie to keep people like us away from their beautiful swimming! Lol.
We came with snorkel gear and one bottle of water for each of us. We also planned to stay a short period of time.
We let ourselves down because we didn't want to leave. However, we didn't have lunch and there are not concessions here.
Definitely plan to go back. (With lunch and without the kids-they could go but aren't strong swimmers to do major exploring.)
Thank you ever patient lifeguard when we were frustrated. If he ever reads this, he will know who he was. Kids finally got in and loved it.

Great island in the middle of it all. So peaceful and serene. Feels like a tropical island in the middle of nowhere. Great picnic area, great place to walk, swim and or snorkel.

We kayaked from the marina across to peanut island. It was a pretty easy trip across. When we arrived at the snorkeling Lagoon… We were amazed! There were thousands of fish. The water was clear and the snorkeling was amazing. We saw multiple colored fish, barracuda, rays, and schools of snook.
There are plenty of clean restrooms, showers, and water fountains.
The grass huts picnic areas are clean and inviting.
The snorkeling and swimming areas are safe and full of a diversity of fish.

The park is very nice and easily reached by kayak, paddle board or boat. They have some places to purchase food and to camp and cook out. The down side is that right now they are dredging the area so lots of construction type boats and pipes in the water.

Easy accessed by the water taxi from Sailfish marina, peanut island has some of the best snorkeling in the area. Lots of fish and calm water make for a wonderful experience for all ages.

Peanut Island Park is wonderful, you can get there by boat, taxi. paddleboard; you can watch the tropical fish as you arrive. The beaches have sand, shells, lots to do.

Lots of great, beautiful fish at the reefs. The island is mellow and lovely. However, Fri - Sun it gets SUPER crowded with people anchoring their boats there and many others taking the shuttle boat over. We went a few times last week and on Sunday almost the entire island reeked of marijuana.

I went to the place and they treated me very kindly. I was determined to spend the day at Pinos Island but when I arrived at the site they informed me that the water was contaminated and that they advised against doing so. I was very pleased that they were honest and I have no doubt that I will try to go again.

We went here for spring break this year. It's a great little place and you can go snorkeling for free. Just grab your gear and come on. The ferry ride over is very nice. It's a cute little island and it has great beaches and wonderful snorkeling. I highly recommend it for anybody wanting to go into a cute little place in Florida for snorkeling. Or even for just going to the beach. One of our favorite spots now.

Lots of space, great snorkeling, plenty of family friendly amenities. Took the family for a half day and had a fantastic time.

Best kayak and dive location in Palm Beach County - take water taxi to the Island from SAILFISH MARINA?
Also on the Island is former US Coast Guard Station and adjacent JFK COLD WAR FALLOUT SHELTER?
JFK CENTER open to visitors and preserved exactly as it was build to protect Kennedy during Cuban crisis!

A little beach island that one can get to by boat - can take a water taxi from Riviera Beach Marina Park. The parking is away from the main close lot and is free during the day $8 permit overnight. The water taxi is $12 round trip . You can camp there but you have to carry all your stuff onto the boat and off. You can use their wheelbarrow to move your stuff as well. They sell ice at the marina ( there are no stores there). Make sure you bring all your beach stuff and food and drink items. They have bathrooms there easy to access. There is also a boat that comes around where you can buy pizza. There are grills and picnic tables all around the island and a few scattered pavilions with overhead coverage - first come first served basis.

The kids (13&11) enjoyed it. They want to go back as soon as possible. We will go back for the summer vacation.

Beautiful place to enjoy the sun and the beach. Perfect place for snorkeling, my son and husband loved it. Definitely will go back again. The water is very clear.

Family went to snorkel on Peanut Island. We took the water taxi. Nice place. We walked around the island a bit. I would definitely recommend.

Went to check out the island. The ferry is $10 per person there and back which was fine. Once you get there the tour of JFK's Bunker is another $15 the island it self is ok a few people were snorkeling lots of fish to see they literally swim right next to you. There are some rocks in the water that can be cool to climb on. Lots of boats to see as well. After about 30 mins or so it gets kinda redundant.

A must visit. Wish this place was a secret 😊😊😆 snorkeling here is fun when high tide is in. Beautiful place

Awesome day on the water and Peanut Island. We were amazed at the work done here to accommodate people visiting the island. Our group rented tandem kayaks and took a cooled with waters and subway subs to make a fun beach day. After a nice paddle over we hopped in the water by the rocks on the southeast end of the island. With just swim goggles we got to see a nice variety of fish there. After, a nice walk around the island on the paver lined path then picnic lunch under one of the pavilions. All in all a great day!

Saw manatees, osprey hawk, zebra fish, and iguana! Lovely 1 mile path around the island. Very nice activity with friends. Great beach areas and snorkeling.

We wish we would have gone earlier in the day to have more time. We snorkeled a little - saw a few fish and lots of shells! There was quite a current, so we were glad the tide was lower to be able to stay in place. We only made it to one area but others on our ferry back said they saw manatee while snorkeling on the other side of the island. Parking and paying was convenient. Just a 10 minute (or less) ferry ride over. It was well worth it!

He is always willing to help with everything. he informs you of the weather and is very professional. I've been going there for 5 years now and it has always been a pleasure using his water taxi. We stay over night at Peanut Island's camp site and he always informs us of their rules. His crew is the best, always friendly, they even help with your luggage. I always recommend him. If you have a huge group just give him a call ahead of time, recommended 48-24 hours before. He also keeps in touch with you if you stay over night and you can always call him if you are ready to leave. I give him 5 stars for his customer service.

The island is beautiful, but there was some trash unfortunately. The ferry was fast and convenient; although the captains on both the way in and way out were nice and friendly, the two girls speaking on both trips were grumpy and rude. The one girl even have a bracelet that had the F word all over it; my 9 year old pointed it out. If they want better tips, since she said over again how $20 pays the bills, I would recommend some customer service training.

A five minute boat ride get you here. Some families bring big coolers and grills and spend the day. This was once an active Coast Guard Station, and the first building you will see is the boathouse, now the welcome center. The big house is the old coast guard quarters, now the museum. We signed up for the tour, the only ones, so we got the full attention of the Curator, Ruth. She gets to stay in the house a few days a week. Cuts down on here commute, she says, Extremely knowledgeable about the equipment and the history. When the Coast Guard gave up the property
it became a City park.
But, the MOST Interesting facility on the island is the Cold War era bunker-fallout shelter, built for Kennedy. The Seabees constructed it in the side of a small hill. It has blast doors, an air filtration system, generators, kitchen and provisions, an "office" and sleeping quarters (can't imagine Jacky on those bunk beds), and an escape hatch. Mostly everything is original, although it had been vandalized over the years. All the stuff is period-correct. Awesome.

Our family of 9 went to the park for an overnight camping trip.
Camping: decent facilities. The sites are very clean and while the tents are on sand, there are plenty of non sandy areas to walk on. There is a large pavilion available to the campers with 4-6 picnic tables and I believe 2 grills. The sites all had an accompanying grill and picnic table as well. The bathrooms you share with the entire island. There is a closed section accessible only with a code for campers to shower. In the women restroom, there were 4 shower stalls with doors and one handicap shower with a door. Private but not that clean - do not forget to wear flip flops while in the bathroom. There is a large fire pit also only available to campers. Nestled under palm trees, the sites can be very breezy however you very rarely feel that breeze in your tent. I do not recommend going in the summer heat. Staff was friendly. One attendant at the entrance to the campgrounds who was a pleasure to interact with. Overall a great experience.
Park itself: the beach is lovely and it’s a pretty place to walk around. Plenty to do and hidden spots to jump into the water which we full took advantage of.
While we had a great time and everyone was respectful, this place gets packed with boats and day visitors. If you plan on using the shuttle and are not in line by 11AM on a weekend or holiday, don’t bother going. Likelihood of getting in is slim and you are shoulder to shoulder with people along the shore and in the water. This is definitely a rise with the sun and be in line minimum 1 hr in advance type of place.
I would call and ask in advance about the jelly fish and sea lice situation. We went during Labor Day weekend and there were so many jelly fish in the water. When we are were able to get in, we were bit by the sea lice (which is itchy and painful).
The reason I rated it a 4 is overall bathroom cleanliness and because of how busy it gets. But lovely place to visit.

We rented tandem kayaks from Get Wet water sports and took our 6 and 8 year old from the marina to Peanut Island. We are experienced paddlers, but if you know how to paddle a boat it’s a super easy 10-15 minute paddle to the island. We were glad we rented the kayaks and just went rather than pay more than double the price for the tour. We found a huge starfish and the water was crystal clear and if you bring goggles and hopefully a snorkel you can see lots of fish near the rocks not far from the beach. Highly recommend!!!

As it turns out, there is a dedicated PR team committed to flagging any posts about Peanut Island that don't give the experience a high enough rating. We'll see how long this post remains before the vested interests in the area go after this one as well. By the way, I've deducted a rating point simply because it's bad form in my view for a place to actively suppress negative and moderate views of their attraction so TripAdvisor patrons only see the positive parts. That's contrary to the idea of the website, in my view.
The Good
If you're into snorkeling or swimming, Peanut Island is probably a must visit for you in the Palm Beach area. There are plenty of man-made reefs and lagoons that provide ample opportunity to swim. Lots of marine wildlife as well. We've seen Eagle Rays and Manatee at different times. And, there's always lots of fish.
The Bad
Getting there. This is an important part of any review. As any business owner will tell you, it's not good enough to have something good. Your patrons also have to be able to get to you. Unfortunately, in the case of Peanut Island, getting there isn't exactly the best experience all of the time. If you own your own means of transportation to an island-such as a kayak, paddleboard, or boat- your day will probably be much easier than if you have to rely on the water taxi service. You can read all about this on a separate review here on TripAdvisor. We'll leave it with the statement that getting to the island isn't as easy as it should be for a "major destination" in the area.
The Ugly
Let's face it. This place is a dump. Literally. Look at the aerial map of the island. Check out the history of the island. You'll quickly learn a significant majority of the island consists of large spoil dumping grounds. In other words, the island didn't exist 150 years ago. When they started dredging the channel for the port, they needed a place to dump all of the "spoil". So, they created an island. At least 80% of the island is actually literally a landfill. Around this landfill are parts that Palm Beach has dressed up enough to convince people it's a tourist attraction. You simply can't escape the fact the island was created as a landfill and the majority is still used as a place to dump dredging spoils. While dredging may be necessary to keep the port open, it doesn't necessarily mean people should be playing on the waste produced by it.

Great place for snorkeling. We saw lots of tropical fish, string rays and even barracudas. Amazing fun!

Great way to spend a day on the island to bad tbe bunker is closed now not far from Palm Beach fun for tbe whole family

The water taxi from Sailfish Marina will take you to this great little island. They have made some extreme major upgrades since we were here last. Great for exploring, swimming, snorkeling, picnicing, camping and just relaxing. A beautiful island!

This was truly the highlight of our trip to Singer Island area. We had a beautiful day with calm seas. We saw lots of fish and a manatee swam right towards us and dove right under us! If seas are rough or marine life warnings are in effect at Riviera Beach/Singer Island go here and you will find it much calmer here.

As long as you are not looking for a crashing surf, this little island is idyllic and accommodating! We packed up our picnic lunch and headed over to the island via the ferry, which runs every 15 minutes. Once on the island, paved walkways lead you over bridges and along the water's edge. There is a plethora of little coves with picnic tables (some of which are covered) benches and small sandy beaches as well as several large, clean restrooms. It was too cold for snorkeling the day we were there but the kids spent hours doing just that. The adults spent the hours chitchatting and taking in the serenity of the scenery. Gem of a park with lots of history......go see why!

WOW! never seen so many fishes, types, colors, sizes, thousands of school fishes...amazing. Make sure to go in a High Tide to see them.. Wear water shoes (rocky) and bring your own food (no food vendors in the island). Bathrooms, showers, grills, picnic tables are available. Watertaxi with Captain Joe was $10 RT (cash only). Very well maintained Island! Kudos for the maintenance team, you always see them cleaning somewhere.

I'm a local boater and Peanut Island is not what it used to be.
My wife, daughter and myself took our boat out late in the day on 9/4 and it was disappointing to say the least.
Every Tom, Dick and Harry now has a boat and or jet ski and that's okay but not everyone (maybe 1/2) respect the water.
Case in point, during low tide parts of the island shoals become visible and some people park their boats and set up camp on these sandbars. Again, perfectly okay but when your dog decides to do it's business on the sandbar and you put sand on top of it thinking it will magically go away, enough said. Where the do you think your dog poo is going to end up? If it was guaranteed to show up on the front stoop of his house I'm sure he would pick it up.
Later we dropped anchor near east side, closer to the ocean and the ugliness continued. We love to snorkel and bathe in the inter-coastal as it is relatively clean but not the case today. While in the water I witnessed floating feces, left over food particles, food wrappers etc. How about some respect, if not for others around you, for nature itself.
We are only going to realize our mistakes when, one day, we wake up surrounded by garbage and by that time it'll be too late.
If you do decide to visit the island, pick up after yourself. Like the old saying goes, "we don't swim in your toilet, so please don't poop in our water."

The directions on here sent us to a location that we could not use to access the island. Even though we live 25m away from the destination, it took an hour to finally get to the beach NOT the island. The locals don't have much knowledge on how to get to the island (or at least the 7 people we asked didn't) After a while, we gave up and just decided to go to Riviera Beach Marina.

While we didn't spend much time on Peanut Island itself, we did walk the soft sandy beaches to get from one snorkeling site to another and were told that there is a really nice campground there with bathrooms, showers, campfire pit, etc. and plan to come back someday to check that out. The JFK bunker is no longer open for touring, but we're told it looks like Shrek's home in the swamp. Ha! Anyway, what a little treasure that island is. And snorkeling around is wonderful. We even had an up close and personal encounter with a manatee!

1st time visit and loved it. From jet skis to snorkeling to mansions to boats playing music to being able to get pizza delivered to your boat to the beautiful sunsets to being able to just lay on the beach and relax to seeing JFKs secret bunker. What a great place to visit!

Peanut Island was awsome. Great for family adventures. Its just a short ferry ride. Going out from Rivera marina only $12 bucks per person. You can take you beach wagon, beach chairs, umbrellas, food. NO alcohol. Awsome place to snorkle. Take your own snorkle because they do charge $20 bucks per snorkle. There is not food on the island no restaurant. There are bathroom and shower. There are picnic tables and barbeques. You must go early because its first come first serve. The water is crystal clear.

This is a great spot to paddle a kayak to and just relax. If you have a boat, there are free first come first served slips. The park is very clean and has lots to do.

Loved it here. Quick water taxi ride across the bay. Pack your picnic basket as not too many food and drink options.

Peanut Island is a beautiful island at West Palm Beach.
You need take a boat to arrive in the Island.
The water is so calm and clean and the sand is very white.
I loved to know Peanut Island.

excellent snorkeling, can bring food. can rent snorkel off ferry, ferry ride takes debit cards, you can sneak on your own alcohol(dont drink on ferry) walk around to other side of island for partyboats. but island closes early, so get there early

clear water and amazing fish sightings-2 hours of amazing scenery and fish. ryan knew the waters and explained where we were and celebrity homes

We love this place. You can go with u own boat or Katak or there are taxi boat available . They have a camping places with a few spaces. We recommend making a reservation in advance. Clean bathroom s, picnic tables, gazebos, and a great walking path. Great and safe snorkeling. You have to bring u own mask . A few beaches with a lifeguard on the weekends .
Some days you can visit , ( buying a ticket ) the underground bunker museumI.
Really fun n to spend a day there. Very busy in weekends

Disclaimer: I only go here on vacation in January. i have been told by many people that it is a very different experience in the summer, on a weekend. That being said the snorkeling has been great every time i have been here. the rock piles on the east side of the island have some many fish you feel like you are swimming in an aquarium.

Captain Joe is made my day with his kindness when I took his ferry to charming
Peanut Island. You can depend on him. Truly a captain of the sea.

Great beaches, clean areas, Rest rooms on site, showers, you can spend an entire day here, pack your cooler, catch the water taxi or your own boat, great facilities, shallow beaches and CLEAN, definitely recommend Peanut Island, please be aware that no alcohol is allowed on the island, although you can drink your favorite alcoholic beverage while on the water, as long that your feet are on the water is ok to drink, entire island is patrolled regularly to ensure family atmosphere

Great place to take a relaxing swim with fish and enjoy laying on the beach. The waters are relatively calm and shallow so it is easy for all ages. If you are lucky, you might even get to swim with a manatee...we did!

This little place is beautiful! Plan ahead for food and drink because there aren't any places to buy these things. There are covered picnic areas with grills. There are restrooms. The water taxi is a great service to get to and from the island. When it's low tide there are spots to snorkel. Great place to come with the family.

The boat ride from the marina to peanut island is a short one. It will drop you off at either the museum or the beach area. We went to the museum and then to the Kennedy fall out shelter from the 1960's. Both of these took about an hour. It appears that most people go to peanut island for the beach, swimming, and camping.

Local friends took us here on a visit. Easy "walk-in" snorkeling that was fun though not spectacular. It's a fun excursion. Water taxi to get there was a little pricey for a very short ride and we had to phone them to remind them to pick us up at one of the scheduled times. We enjoyed it. Would love to go back when the bunker museum is open.

I can't wait to go back to Peanut Island. The snorkeling was great! We saw so many fish of different varieties. The water was so clean and clear. The only negative is there can be a strong current. The Island is beautiful and very well maintained. Unfortunately it was a very hot day and walking around the island was unbearable. We went on a Friday so it may be much more crowded on the weekend. This place is a must see whether you want to snorkel, swim, sit on the beach, or explore the island. Make sure to pack a lunch since there is no food on the island.

We kayaked to peanut island from under the bridge. It was a pretty easy trip across with the exception of low tide, but a short walk over the sand bar and we were good to go. The water was clear and the snorkeling was amazing. There are plenty of clean restrooms, showers, and water fountains. The grass huts picnic areas are clean and inviting. The snorkeling and swimming areas are safe and full of a diversity of fish. The beach is VERY ROCKY, wear beach shoes, it appears that they have lost a lot of sand. The sand replacement is truly the only area of improvement that I can see for this venue.

This island has a great area to snorkel. Tons af fish. Easy to snorkel for all ages. There is no food or drinks, must bring your own. You take a water taxi to the island

Wonderful day trip for family and adults. Beach and snorkeling is fantastic. The place seems like a remote island and it kind of is. However it's a 20 minute enjoyable boat ride from Palm Beach. Pack a cooler and food for the day so you can sit back and enjoy the sun. Suggestion go away from the dock area and the crowds are smaller. Stay away from holiday weekends and you will be fine. Remember booze is now off limits on the island due to stupid people abusing it. A few ruined it for us that only have a drink or 2 by behaving badly a few years back. Thanks

Biked to this beautiful spot at the end of Singer Island. Very clean with friendly staff. Boardwalk across park, or ride the free shuttle.

SNORKELING is amazing!!! It was a blast for my wife, myself, and our 7 year old daughter. The water was very calm but it's about 5 feet deep so I would recommend a vest for younger kids. We went on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend, I can't imagine that the island could possibly be much more crowded, but the crowds still didn't hurt the experience. Plenty of room for everyone to have a blast.
We didn't take the ferry, we rented Kayaks from Adventure Rentals and it was a very easy 10 minute paddle from dock to shore. You do cross the channel which is a little intimidating, but the waves were very calm and traffic was fine on a very busy day.
HIGHLY recommended, don't miss it if you're in the area!!

The ferry ride of 10 minutes was fun and drops you onto this oasis in the middle of busy South Florida.
Turquoise waters, calm and filled with fish to see as you snorkel.
Pack a lunch, bring food and drink, chairs, umbrella and sunscreen and relax in the beautiful white sand. Explore the island or simply lay back, swim and relax.
Great day!!!
$18pp ferry tickets, worth it!

Delray Beach, FL

Was pleasantly surprised to find such good snorkeling at a place that has a reputation for drinking and partying in the intracoastal!

We spent an afternoon on Peanut Island. I had brought my own snorkel gear which is good because there is nothing available on the island except bathrooms. There are nice beach areas, pavillions, and a walkway around the whole island (1.25 miles). I would recommend wearing sand shoes in the water. Very relaxing day!!!

We arrived to the Peanut Island with the tour which you take from Palm Beach, $12 per person both ways, children 6 years or under pay half price. They left us on north of the island and we decided to walk around the whole island (about 40 minutes). We started walking from the north to west and around and first more than half of the way we were very disappointed. The beaches were small with dark dirty-ish water, it was very close to the land - with not nice views (a bit industrial), there were lots of private boats, some party boats and it very much smelled of fuel from boats. Not nice at all. Then we got to the south and all south and east side of the island are very very nice. The east side is where fresh ocean water comes so water is clear, nice colour, the beaches are bigger with some party boats but not that many as on the west side. We very much enjoyed it.

Love beaching my jet skis and hanging out with everyone enjoying a n afternoon on the water! It's easy to get to!

Lovely place to snorkell and wander around. We got thye water taxi over and had a lovely morning there.

What a neat place nestled among such a busy area. I liked the quick taxi ride over but I did find it a bit expensive for such a short trip. The island was clean and the water calm and warm. Lots of benches to sit on and picnic benches to dine on. Bathrooms were clean. We did not visit the bunker or historical sites but I did get a chance to meet one of the sweetest little kitties that call this island home.

Love this place. Short and pleasant ferry ride. The beach is beautiful. The snorkeling is fun. Definitely we'll go again. Bring water shoes, though. It was a bit Rocky, and there are a lot of shells on the beach and in the water.

exotic island 100 yards off shore You take a nice short cruise to get out there then you are free to explore the various beaches, boardwalks and picnic areas.

We took the Peanut island shuttle boat out here and it was a short 10 minute ride. The water was crystal clear and you could see all the way to the bottom. We had a fun family day with our three year old. Make sure you bring an umbrella, coolers with food, snacks and non alcoholic drinks (yes they check your coolers before you board the ferry). The water is crystal clear and there are tons of fish which is perfect for snorkeling. We could even see all the different colored fish without masks. We did not get a chance to walk around the whole island but this is definitely worth going to. We only spent a few hours out here since we had a toddler with us and the sun was strong. We liked the calm waters and there is a lagoon that is super shallow and perfect for little ones to play. We cannot wait to go back.

A day trip to this island across from sailfish marina is a wonderful reprieve from a long work week. There's the JFK bunker, the nature trails, public bathrooms and you can also snorkel on a separate area. Needless to say you can come here for a day a recharge your batteries for a week.

Stopped here after the majestic Princess cruise. There's a ferry that will take you to the island for $12 per person. We toured the Coast Guard house and bunker and found that extremely interesting. That cost another $12 per person
There's also a nice area on the island for snorkeling and we will probably go back to explore the rest of the island.

Peanut Island makes for a great day trip when staying in or around West Palm Beach. Using the marina parking and shuttle over is super easy and reasonably priced.
The island itself is quite pretty, with a handful of shaded picnic tables, bathrooms, and great snorkeling. Our family of 5 really enjoyed the calmer water near the pier, while also venturing out to the rocky area to look at the iguanas and watch the huge ships pass by.

My family kayakers from Phil Foster over to peanut island and snorkled there. It is a very nice area to snorkel and safe for even beginners. My grandchildren all snorkel there and had a good time. We will definitely be going again. This month weather permitting.

Everything about getting to Peanut island is easy. Put it in your GPS, park where the signs tell you to park, which is a bit of a downhill walk, but you can drive down to the dock to drop off family and “stuff” first.
At the dock you buy your water taxi tickets ($18) and snorkel gear if you want ($20), no fins though. The taxis run frequently so after a short wait, if any, you and your chairs and umbrellas and whatever else are on a short jaunt to the island.
The boat lands on the snorkel side, near the rocks. It can be a bit windy on that side but it seemed less windy as you went further toward the rocks. You can also walk around to the leeward side where the private boats land. I’m not sure if the beach is as good there. Peanut Island is a beautiful park with a one mile walking path all around it.
Important - if you want to snorkel, and the fish around the rocks are beautiful, go during high tide. The snorkeling is best then.
More hints. You should visit the Manatee Park first, which is just on the other side of the big bridge at the FPL power station. The park closes at 4 PM. As far as Peanut Island, the last boat leaves at 5PM and you must be on it or pay a $100 fine.
There are bathrooms, but nothing else, so bring your own water, picnic, snacks.
Have fun!

Amazing way to spend the day with family. Beautiful clear water and overall feels like you are far away from it all. Nicely maintained.

We recently visited the Island. It offers a fun day of snorkeling, relaxing on the beach, and hiking. It is not far from the mainland and you can return throughout the day. We used Captain Joe's Ferry which we enjoyed!

charming island park with clear warm water and manmade reefs that have an abundance of colorful fish.

Total scam, $12 for a ferry? They have a two boat fleet. Not worth it. Bernadette was rude. I think she hated her job. They stop shuttling at 5p. I would never take the shuttle again.

We rented kayaks on a gorgeous day and paddles over to peanut island. It was great to walk around, visit JFK’s bomb shelter and look at the beautiful scenery. Great place to go for a long walk and have a picnic. An outing we will do again!

Glad we visited Peanut Island when we were in the Palm Beach area. The water taxi ride over from Sailfish Marina was very informative and the captain made the trip fun. It was cool to see the Kennedy Bunker from over 50 years ago...and the island had lots to look at, and take in. It is a very scenic walk on the path around the perimeter of the island once you get off the water taxi. The island is good for snorkeling, swimming and camping too. If you have the time to go...it is definitely worth it.

Worth going for the day with your family. Found out they have weddings and other partys on the island. Can see why. The picnic area are great. It looks like a tropical island with the grass huts

We took the ferry boat here when we were visiting the area on spring break. Bring your swimsuit, cover up, flip flops, sunscreen, small cooler bag with drinks, snacks, lunch. Restroom facilities on the island. We mostly just sat on beach and people watched, but others snorkeled around some rocks on the east side of the island, paddleboarded, and brought their dinghy's to the beach from their boats that were anchored/moored farther out. It was a nice day and a good way to spend a few hours. Island is tiny and not much to do there, which was fine for us, but if you are looking for adventure this probably isn't it. Most people brought their own food/drinks and had picnics there. I don't believe there is anything available for purchase on the island. I'm told there was an old war bunker for tours on the island, but it is now closed because not enough people would visit it--sad. :( If you have your own boat, there is some dockage on the west side of the island. About maybe 8-10 boats of about 20-24' would fit there at these docks, so not a ton of space. Docks looked new as of April 2018. Some people pulled their boats up to the beach. I'm a boater and would NOT pull my boat up to the beach here.... too shallow and too much seaweed. Not worth the risk of getting boat stuck in the sand.

Peanut Island has some of the best FREE snorkeling around. All you need is your own snorkeling gear! The beach is a little small in spots but was well worth the trip over. I will be back even time I visit!

Went to Peanut Island primarily to go snorkeling and I was not prepared at how beautiful the island itself was going to be.
We took a very short ferry over from Sailfish Marina Resort for about $12 roundtrip. Great resort grounds, friendly staff. On the island, we did the loop around it before heading into the water. It only took about 20 minutes, and some parts of the island were nicer than others. We had a few conversations with some of the lifeguards and they were great.
The snorkeling around Peanut Island is super cool. It was our first time snorkeling anywhere. We rented gear (mask, fins) for about $17 a person/day from Pura Vida Divers on Singer Island before heading over. Good equipment, fantastic service. Everyone recommends only going snorkeling around high tide (increased water visibility, increased sea life activity), but high tide was at 7am that day so we weren't able to make it. That being said, we started our snorkel around 10am and still saw an incredible amount of colorful fish, as well as a crab. You're sometimes able to see manatees, eel and barracudas, but we were not so lucky. Still a great time. The water was 75 degrees (late Feb), so it was nice.

This was the highlight of our family FL trip. We traveled with my 2 year old toddler, my parents and my teen age brother. The day spent on peanut island is everyone's favorite. Snorkeling was absolutely gorgeous. One tip is to make sure that you bring your water shoes, the bottom is rocky, which is to be expected when snorkeling. We snorkeled around the rocks on the beach side in the morning, when the tide got too low and it was too wavy, we went to the lagoon and snorkeled some more. It was very enjoyable. There are plenty of picnic tables and shades.

Beautiful beautiful beautiful! But the Jellyfish were all over and they were no joke. The water was warm clear perfect..but the jellyfish and sea lice which is actually the larvae of the jellyfish were making it difficult to be in the water. The other thing is to avoid it during holiday weekends. We were in line for more than an hour and the girl is handwritting what she sold and hand calculating everything. A computer system to so it faster and effectively would make the process smoother.

On July 2024 there was a whole page article in the Florida Sun Sentinel newspaper about Pineapple island highly recommended for snorkeling. I clipped the article and when my nephew came from abroad I decided to go for a visit. I do not drive.
The article was very clear to say to bring everything we would need since nothing was sold on the island. I brought my own snorkeling equipment and was looking forward to have that activity done. The boat tour was short and nice. We found a place where to sit close to the water. The temperature was cool approx. 25C but I decided to enter in the water knowing that I won't come back. I do not drive and very seldom leave my home in Fort Lauderdale. Well for my huge shock I could not see any single fish of any size. I repeat no fish either small or big. Generally when you enter in the water, small fishes are swimming at the shore but not there. I was not only at the shore but inside close to the rocks where the captain recommended to be there for such activity. The photos attached can speak for themselves. The water was clean yes but the visibility not the best and no fish at all. How could that happened in the ocean? It is hard to believe and process such scenario. The article mentioned to snorkel and snorkel for me should be a colorful wet experience with something to admire.
The boat tour was fine but my visit to the island was not what I expected since there was nothing to snorkel. I did not go there especially only to swim. The island is a family friendly oriented destination where animals are authorized which I did not enjoy. People yes had their dogs leashed as requested but for higiene dogs should not be permitted in that small limited beach destination unless service pets. No alcohol is authorized and if you have some, they will save it for you to pick it up back upon return to the boat ticket selling kiosk. It is a very popular destination and the company does not especially encourage visitors to purchasse advance boat tickets. The waiting time to catch the boat varies but it is not too long since it was a regular week end day. The boat runs every 10/20 minutes and the ride lasts approximately 10 minutes. During holiday season, I would highly encouraged you to book/purchase in advance boat rides and not to remain on the island until the last departure time if you wish to be sure to get a ride back. The cost for a private boat tour cost can cost $100.00. We paid each $20.00 each plus credit card fee $1.00. Total $41.00.
I called the boat company and complained and they told me that it was nature and they do not have control about it. Yes regardless nature or not but in water small fishes are generally always visible at the shore. That was not a safari trip where yes nature can play a different vision and expectation. The company denied to credit the boat cost on my credit card. Now that you are well informed you can decide what to do and what to expect.

We love walking the island, beaching the boat, and grilling along the shore. Another favorite is the sandbar, anchor the boat and grab a float! We avoid the island on big warm weather holidays, it can get very crowded.

Went to P.I. to hit the beach for the day. While there we went for a walk around the island. Perfect place for a day of relaxation and communing with nature.

This was our second year to snorkel and our third trip to Peanut Island. The snorkeling is best at high tide, but there are still plenty of fish to see during low tide and in between tides. The facilities are well maintained. There are plenty of clean restrooms. The museum and bomb shelter are worth the trip and interesting to see.

Two of us took the taxi to the island and two took paddleboards. They loved getting there by paddleboard. The snorkling was perfect around the rock formations as we were there at high tide. When the tide is low, the water gets murky and difficult to swim around, so if you can schedule your snorkle at high tide, that will pay off. The island has a great kids swimming and play area. The beach is great with some shade and a picnic area. The walk around the island is nice as well. We all had a very fun day.

The best kept secret is a day on this quiet island! Camping overnight is allowed with public showers and bath rooms. Beach and trail walks! Kennedy Bunker a must! See celebrities you won’t recognize too!

Whether you're in boater, swimmer, snorkeler, scuba diver, a lover of nature, or a history buff, you will find peanut island has it all.
It's great for the whole family, a fun place to park your boat, and a terrific place to enjoy a picnic or take a walk on your own so exotic island.
Don't miss this hidden gem in the middle of West Palm Beach. Enjoy!

We went to snorkel and it was terrible. Poor visibility, no fish, rocky ocean (could not walk in the water). Save your time and money.

Great day at Peanut Island ! We took Capt Joe's Water Taxi $10 round trip pp. Its a 10 minute boat ride from Riviera Beach Marina! We stayed about 4 hours, bring a picnic lunch & cooler, they frown on alcohol and you are not supposed to bring it on the island. Be sure to walk around the entire island as we got very up close to dozens of Manatees on the west side of the island. It is very clean and there are 3 large bathrooms the brick walk ways are wide & well maintained. Great place to relax, ideal for families, couples & friends! Neat lagoon to swim, snorkel paddle board with Manatees & tropical fish! There is no admission fee to the island. Just the water taxi! Cheers!

The island and beaches were beautiful and we loved the walk around the island. My only criticism is that I don't think pets should be allowed on the island. When I went to swim in the lagoon there were piles of dog feces on the shore and floating in the water. It was gross.

I visited the island and I had an horrible, bad, terrible experience. The girl with the her hair dyed like green or blue ish her name is Karina she said. She made us waste out time from enjoying the place two hours at the entrance, she was disrespectful. She was rude and disrespectful with my two younger daughters. She had an horrible attitude with us since the first moment. I would advice you guys to change your personal and make sure they are doing a right customer service, you need a personal that’s positive with the customers not negative and rude, we just wanted to enjoy the place and she made it impossible, she managed the situation unprofessional. However the younger worker was really sweet she wad just following Karina’s orders because she just didn’t want us to get to the isle. Very unprofessional.

Had a great day here with my son and girlfriend. Think of the desert island in the middle of a busy waterway. The views can be a bit industrial but the water is alive with fish the sand is beautifully powdery and white . Highlights snorkelling and then getting out only to be followed by 2 stingrays, then collecting coconuts and drinking the juice. It's easy to get here for 10 bucks on the ferry and I think it is a wonderful day out. You can even camp here. Plus despite what they say there is a cage serving snacks and drinks

the place was very well kept, the water was just beautiful, calm and clear, great for the kids. great for snokelling also. there are a lot of fishes to be seen, not much to explore, just great for hanging out with friends and family, and also the kids,

The best way to get to the island is via the Riviera Beach - Peanut Island Shittle Boat and it is worth every penny. ($12 round trip for adults.) The staff was friendly, helpful, and were really quite wonderful. The ride didn’t make my hubby seasick, it’s short and not rough at all. We snorkeled, and learned that the visibility is best at high tide. We not only saw schools of beautiful fish, but also manatees. The water was warm and clear; visiting the island was a highlight of our entire trip to be sure. Bring your own food and drink, we also brought a beach chair and umbrella too. The restrooms on the island are immaculate, and we felt safe the entire time.

Pretty island, and the ferry over was easy and accessible, just too crowded when we went. After snorkeling in The Keys, Peanut Island was a little disappointing.

This place is beyond fantastic for just off The beach snorkeling and well worth the trip! The water is turquoise and clear and the fish are awesome!
A few tips-
Visit the website! It has beach conditions and tons of great information. You can call and speak to someone too!
Peanut Island Park and Recreation - Palm Beach County
***Make sure to check the local beach conditions ahead of time***
Call the ferry and check the operating times before you show up! They will make changes and you could show up and not be able to go. There is also restrictions on what you can take. It's a nice (short) ride over and back. It was well worth the per person charge, roundtrip included and CASH ONLY.
They have life guarded areas and non guarded areas.
The snorkeling right off of the beach and around the rocks is great. I am told it's best around high tide. We were there both days at high tide and it was fantastic. Don't chase the fish...find some and stay still. They will come right around you!
Beware of the currents!!! The currents get pretty strong. Make sure you and your family pay close attention to this!!! Some areas (especially by the pier) drop off and are pretty deep and have strong currents. As tempting as it is...don't snorkel there!
There are nice full bathroom facilities, outdoor shower areas and covered picnic areas with grills.
You will want some water shoes...especially for the kids. Some of the rocks and shells can be sharp. The walkways are HOT!!!
Take some snacks and lots of water!!!
Go get yourself a mask and snorkel (a dry submersible snorkel is best) at Walmart and go have some fun! It was easier for the kids to navigate without flippers/fins on their feet.

We have been visiting the area for years but never made the trip to the island. Or loss! What a great place! The ferry ride from the Sailfish Marina was quick and easy. Then, at the island, there were paved walkways all over the island. There were multiple beaches, many of which had nice snorkeling spots. There were places to fish, covered areas with picnic tables, clean bathrooms. My only wish was that there were more beach area. But we all loved our visit to the island and look forward to visiting again.

Take a ferry, kayak, or other watercraft over to Peanut Island. We went with another couple. It was great exploring the island, relaxing on the beach, and snorkeling. It was February, and we had a few jellyfish, but we still saw a great variety of fish. The restrooms were spotless. We are excited to venture back soon.

An amazing place to spend the whole day snorkeling or just relaxing on the beach. I've seen a variety of gorgeous fish in the lagoon. Amazing scenery and very quiet!

enjoyed myself snorkeling it was on a Thursday so it wasn't crowded. We also did the bunker tour it was informative.

My children (grown) and grandchildren love this park. Next time, we will bring the dog! A lovely way to spend an afternoon. Bring your own beach equipment, towels, and food. Plenty of places to picnic. No refreshments available at the park. Bathrooms are available.

I'm not comfortable taking kids to the beaches on Florida's east coast. Beaches drop off too steeply and the waves are too big for the littler ones. Peanut Island is the answer unless you want to drive 2 or 3 hours over to the west coast. The island is in the middle of the itracoastal waterway and protected from the ocean's surf. The slope is gradual and you can sit an enjoy watching kids play along the shore.
Older kids and adults will enjoy snorkeling over the reefs. The last time I took a teenager there we had to stop on the way to buy a waterproof case for her phone so that she would be able to photograph underwater. She had a ball!
Take your chairs and your picnic lunches. Have a great family outing.

Water was murky when we first arrived but that’s tides for you. We just waited it out until it cleared up. When it finally did it was pretty amazing! So many fish! Parrotfish, stingray, snook, barracuda, French Grunts, pufferfish, etc. Downside was that it was too crowded and lots of grump teens! Haha
I was slightly disappointed that more people weren’t in the water actually enjoying the fish that were right there!

It is a great snorkeling place. You can see so many different kinds of fish. Kids were so excited to see a manatee 10 yards off shore. Will definitely come here again when it is warmer.

nice clean sand, water was clear, nice picnic area, Free access to public. Be aware not a lot of shade, so if you burn be careful.

We camped here this past weekend, and absolutely loved it. The park and campground is really well maintained and showers and bathrooms are clean. Snorkeling was the highlight of our trip! I was bummed to find that the JFK Bunker and stuff were all closed, that would have been nice to tour, but all in all we had a great time, and can't wait to return.

The JFK Bunker, the Marine Museum, and the office were all closed. Except for being able to walk the circumference of the island there wasn't anything to do. There wasn't wild to see nor any interesting vegetation either.
At least when to paid for the water taxi to go to the island they should have warned you. Forget it!

We're always looking for something quirky to see when traveling and the JFK bomb shelter definitely qualified. It's small and not at all impressive, but you need to realize it was built in a matter of days at the height of the Cold War and Cuba scare and only intended for a few days of use before a submarine picked up the president. The maritime museum isn't much yet, but the former Coast Guard station is interesting. The guide was informative and gave us time to look and ask questions. The bomb shelter and Coast Guard station are combined in one tour. We took a picnic lunch and found several spots from which to choose. Peanut Island is a state park and very well maintained with nice camp sites.

Took the ferry to/from the Island, snorkeled for a few hours, water was very clear and calm, with lots of tropical fish. Recommend going on a clear day - as soon as cloud cover came out, and it hit about 2pm, the waters became much more murky. The water was crystal clear from the late morning through early afternoon.

I found this place by accident while looking for things to do while on vacation. By far the best hidden gem I've ever found! You have to take a water taxi, we used Captain Joe's for $10pp and its a short ride to the island. We found a Groupon for the JFK Bunker tour that is also on the island. and it was worth every penny. The island itself is beautiful and well maintained. You can swim, snorkle, fish, camp, cookout....a great way to spend the day with friend and family

all exibits are closed.
piers are not accessible/broken
mediocre/limited beaches
poor snorkling
high water taxi prices
NOT WORTH YOUR TIME

We took the water taxi to Peanut Island for the day, and it was a really beautiful park. The facilities were very clean, there was a lot of grills, picnic tables, covered areas, grassy areas for sports, a nice (relatively small) beach with sand, and shells, and a beautiful walking path that had nature trails and access to historical buildings. It was a fun experience for the family.
It's important to check the tides and try to plan your trip on a day when the water is calm and warm. The water taxi and island are easy to navigate and bringing a wheeled beach cart for your belongings worked out perfectly.
Plan ahead for food, as I mentioned, there are a lot of great options for picnic areas or for grilling out on the island.
We enjoyed the snorkeling around the large barrier rocks, and even going a bit further into the lagoons on the island had an abundance of sea life.
Even though there were a lot of people on the island, there are a lot of nice hidden areas for privacy.
Next time, I think we will opt to take the kayaks to the island as it really is not far into the intercoastal and it would have been easy to get to, even for our 13 year old.
We were told by several people the best time to come is early summer, around May or June, which we may try next time and even may considering staying over on the island for the night. We were told the bioluminescence at night is beautiful, especially in kayaks.

Had our first paddleboard trip to peanut island and it was great. Can't imagine a better Memorial Day weekend. Highly recommend.

It’s a beautiful place, a beach with beautiful coconut/palm trees, crystal clear water, fish (take your masks and snorkels) and we had the privilege of seeing a convoy of manatees passing all the way to the edge. Incroyable. On the other hand, the place is popular and much less paradisiacal in the afternoon (of the world). We took one of the first morning shuttles and were able to enjoy this great spot without too many people.

Fun little island to visit ....make sure you do the tour of the Kennedy bunker...informative and fun
And we loved hearing about the history of the whole island.

A must see for your self. The pictures do this gorgeous spot no justice. When you get to this little island it is gorgeous. The fish when snorkeling are just wow we even seen some star fish. The place was clean the beach was beautiful. The ferry was great also the caption did a tremendous job. Would 10/10 recommend for any age really.

Peanut Island was not at all what I expected. Based on the description, I was expecting a secluded, back to nature type beach. It’s not like that at all!
The island overlooks high-rises, marinas and there’s lots of boat traffic. It wasn’t secluded, it wasn’t rustic and was no better than any other beach. It’s not worth going out of your way for.
Also, the ferry allows you to take a beach cart. Unfortunately, there is a big step up into and off of the boat. Without the help of a very nice passenger and the crew, my beach cart would’ve never made it on or off the boat. Overall, Peanut Island is not a bad place. It’s just not a place worth the extra effort.

Great place to explore you need to get here by your boat or the water taxi bring a picnic lunch plan to stay the day... snorkel swim and play

The water here was beautiful. We went snorkeling, saw lots of fish, and were able to find a place on the island with a private beach (almost shell free which our feet liked!). The water taxi ran on schedule and tickets & snorkeling gear were easy to rent.

Love spending my days here with the family. Great for the kids! Clean and well organized. Camping here is OUTSTANDING.

Very nice place for a relaxing and family fun day. Clear warm water, perfect for snorkeling. Just get a water ferry (like 10 minutes ride) and enjoy your day!

The Ferry price is the only complaint. $12.00 for 1/4 mile boat ride is a little high. Once you arrive there showers, restrooms and picnic tables. A great snorkeling spot for kids.

wonderful experience. Took Captain Ferry service over. Toured bunker. Spent the day on a secluded beach....quiet and relaxing. Walked the perimeter of the island. Stayed 4 hours and had a wonderful time.

Is a nice white sand beach , easy to access is to bad you have to much powers boats with loaded with speakers and noise stupid music ! You can relax there & picnic if you come in the week days
2nd Problems... IS Dog’s ! Can you please keep you dog on the boat or next to you ? I see dog’s everywhere pee and poo !
Off course no one clean up Behind I don’t think all people go there are dog lover, so don’t think your precious “ baby “ is welcome to other.
Except this is a nice place !

My wife became paralyzed as a result of brain cancer along with other cognitive side effects. Being paralyzed is no fun and handicapped accessible is not all you think it is when you can't walk at all especially if you want to get on a boat - UNLESS you call Captain Joe. He and his crew were all about trying to solve the problem to get my wife on his boat safely and to Peanut Island and they made it happen with the right dock on Peanut and tying it to the tides so that we would be at the correct height. After years of coming down here my wife in her wheelchair made it to Peanut Island and our 10 year old could show her where we snorkel etc. Please support Captain Joe - you won't be disappointed.

fantastic beach day. Snorkling is astronomical. Take your own food and beach gear. No restaurants or accomadation in the island. You can go on your boat or pay a boat ride over to the island from rivera beach.

We had wanted to tour the bunker last time we were here but tours are only Thurs - Sun. So this year we went specifically to tour the bunker. Very interesting!!! Though we wished we had brought snorkel gear, we were happy to discover that we could see many cool fish right from the bridges and docks. Spent some time walking the perimeter of the island (a little over a mile) and then relaxing and reading and enjoying the view. Bunker tour is about 1/2 hour. They are also starting weekend tours to Cuba for $1500!! They go once a month. IF you visit Peanut Island, know that there are no concessions or chairs to rent, etc. Bring chairs and a picnic!

I can't believe I never visited this amazing little island before this summer!! It's so much fun! Rented kayak and snorkeled. We saw gorgeous fish!! Motor boat even goes by selling food and drinks. We visit here every month and just love it!! Best to go during high tide. The water is beautiful-we can see the bottom it's so clear!!!

It's a manmade reef, but the water is really clear, there are lots of fish, and, as it was windy when we visited, the rocks kept the water mellow. If it had been mellow in general, I would've wanted to also paddle around the island. We took the Peanut Island Shuttle Boat. I would recommend you go early to enjoy time before a lot of people - both on the beach and on boats - show up. We hadn't planned to be, but were there all day. There is a great trail to take a walk around the island.

We kayaked over to Peanut Island. I wouldn't recommend kayaking there if you are not experienced in kayaking. There is a lot of motor boats, jet skis, etc to share the water way with.
The island was crazy busy but beautiful. We got lots of snorkeling in, seen lots of marine life, took a stroll, and laid out on the sand.
Despite it being busy I recommend going.

We stopped here while boating and were very impressed. The docks and restrooms were well maintained and the beaches clean.

The best day of our vacation. Peanut Island State Park is impeccably maintained with paved pathways and lots of picnic areas and ample shade. The water was clear with lots of colorful fish to see. The array rivals some of the best snorkeling we've done in the Caribbean. The Peanut Island Shuttle Boat was well worth the $12.

Great place to snorkel and the water is beautiful. Definitely worth a trip to Peanut Island but some things to note. We went on a private boat, and anchored off the swimming beach side. Bigger swells and current until you get to slack tide, then it calms down significantly. Not a problem going on an incoming tide, but you need to be prepared to rock a lot and not a good idea for children swimming at this time of tide. As you approach the island from the south, to the east is the inlet and beautiful blue water. The western side of the island is the ICW side and right across the small channel are industrial docks and a cruise ship dock. On this side of the island is where you can beach your boat right on the island and the water itself isn’t as clean looking. It’s too bad because this seems where many locals go and they leave their beer bottles(even though I think there’s no alcohol allowed) and trash all over the beach. Lots of boats blasting music.
The swim/snorkel side of the island is beautiful and in complete contrast to the west side. This is where everyone that takes the pontoon ferry over goes. Seemed pretty crowded on a Saturday. Great place to snorkel and paddle board. Definitely bring underwater phone case, tons of great tropical fish to see. We could see the giant line for the ferry at the end of the day. The boat ramps in the area get full very quickly and are not in a good section of town. I’d definitely go back but next time I’d try for a weekday.

We went to Peanut island to see the JFK bunker. Turned out it is a nice place. On a Friday afternoon in December few folks were there.
Took a walk around the "lagoons" and back to the pier. Pleasant, paved, trail. If you can get off the boat need to get to the island, going about it should not be an issue. Many open picnic tables and bar-ba-qs. We were told this is not so on weekends. We were told these are very crowded.
The round trip water taxi was $ 10 each for seniors (60 and over). Fine for a one off, but I would be reluctant to take a family at that rate. Might want to look into it.

Snorkeled, fished and sun bathed!
tips. if you're riding the ferry check with sailfish marina and riveria beach for ferry times. the park rangers are very helpful if you call them.
you cannot take bikes or booze on the park land.
we brought our coolers, snorkels and fishing poles.
watch out for unruly paddle boarders going into improper zones.
restrooms and showers are on the island.

Who doesn't want to spend a day on an island? The beach where we stay always had big waves. If you go to the island it a blocked off by the marina so the water is calm. Has bathrooms and a place you can fill your waterbottle and get snacks. They let you bring whatever you want to the island. Plan a picnic! They have tables that are covered in case it rains or you want shade.

Great place to hang out for the day. We rented the snorkel gear and took plenty of food and drinks for the day! Lots of cool fish and also plenty of shade when you want to get out of the sun!

A beautiful place to enjoy a day or more when camping. We love taking the water taxi to this island to have a picnic, snorkeling, watching the ships, walking, relaxing, etc. We always bring a picnic lunch and just enjoy the beauty of the water and all around. It is definitely a place to bring kids and just have fun!

Fun access and gret wateer for snorkling. I got there by kayak from the Marriot Beach but ferry is also nice and easier.

Our family left out of the Rivera Marina on the Mantee Queen to spend the day snorkeling. The boat leaves every 15 to 20 min 12 dollars per person. The boat ride was all of 10 min .The captain explained the history of the island on the way . We packed to spend several hours on the island bringing chairs cooler ,lunch , plenty of places off the beach for shade . From the boat to the snorkeling area was a short walk best if u have a rolling cooler . We had planned to spend the day snorkeling , u must bring snorkeling gear . Most folks had water shoes as it is a little rocky but not necessary. Most important is to time our trip around high tide to see most of the reef. We started snorkeling one hour to high tide . We sat at the beach in front of the many reefs . The snorkeling was amazing we spent at least two hours in the water and didn't see all of the reefs. We had to stop for lunch . Went back out later to finish including going all the way to the lagoon. The fish were beautiful, we saw a sting ray as well . It's a MUST SEE my tweens were even impressed and want to return again . It was like being in a large aquarium filled with tons of fish . In all we snorkeled for 4hrs and did not see everything . The water was warm , no huge waves and a wonderful place for small children to wade in the water or to begin to snorkel . The last boat leaves at 5 pm this was a weekday not sure time on the weekend. . Peanut island is a hidden gem and we will plan on returning again . Note is the JFK Bunker is only open Thursday thru Sunday and the Captain says that the weekend is very crowded , weekdays manageable. BEST snorkeling since we been coming to WPB over 14 yrs.

Kennedy family should be embarrassed and run down disrepair not professional
Embarrassment is an understatement Ethel Kennedy was supposedly in palm beach this weekend some one should tell her
Best part was the boat ride to the bunker ride over plus the tour more than I wanted

Took the tour of the island , shuttle boat dropped us off , walked around awhile , stretched out on the beach for awhile , some swimming and snokeling. Very busy on the weekends in good weather, boats raft up and the partying begins - never know what you'll see ! Good way to relax and kill alitte timetime

You have to take a pontoon boat (or your own boat) to this island but it's literally a 10 minute ride. The island is really nice with picnic tables, lots of beach and a path all the way around the island to walk. If you want to snorkel you really need to go at high tide, as the water gets too shallow at low tide.

We read the reviews and took the water taxi across in the morning with plans to fish, snorkel and have a picnic lunch.
It was a bit cool but sunny in the morning, so we basically had the lagoon and snorkeling area to ourselves. Lots of fish around the rocks.
Our son caught some fish from the fishing pier and other bridges.
Nice walk around the island. A great way to spend the day.

I am a novice snorkeler and because I want to be able to walk out on a sandy bottom and snorkel where I could actually stand up any time, this place is perfect!! Nice walk ways, picnic tables, places to rinse off and clean bathrooms. The cherry on top are the life guards. Perfect for families with little guys.

We went here in July 2024 based on the amazing reviews. It was around 12-2pm and the water was murky. We didn’t really see what the big deal was because our hotel had much cleaner water and much better snorkeling. We were staying at the Marriott on Singer Island. So for anyone staying on Singer Island with beach access, I suggest you save your money if you’re planning on snorkeling. It wasn’t worth it to us. It was also pretty crowded and not much shade available. Many people brought their own umbrellas.
The island was very pretty though. My only complaint was the murky water.

I wish we would have been better prepared to snorkel here because there was so much to see. We saw a manatee snacking on vegetation near the shore, many different types of fish, iguanas basking in the sun. The trails were mostly paved, and very well maintained. We spent a few hours here but next time, plan to stay longer. The water taxi from WPB was very convenient and reliable..all you do is call when you are ready to leave the island.

Was looking for a good place to snorkel that was close by. A friend told me to check out Peanut Island. What a great place. A close boat ride via pontoon boat from the marina, arrived on the dock entrance to the island. Beautiful! The coral reefs for snorkeling are close by, in shallow water, safe for the children. So the amenities from what I can see are as follows: campground, paved walkways thruout, outside fresh water showers, picnic areas, bathroom facilities, lots of beaches and lagoons for swimming. THis place is a gem! Enjoy! :)

Me and my friends both got bacterial infections swimming here. Granted this all depends on the water movement of the bay, sea ph and so forth. But the public bathroom has its sewage sent to where you swim and I believe that is what happened to us.

Nice place to snorkel. Saw rays, various other fish. Didn’t see manatees but talked to others who had. Water calm, nice beaches

Good: Generous picnic tables that are spread out under shaded areas, lots of trees with grills, good shades special in summer. Shelters and tables are first come per served. The water is shallow and calm, great with small kids and people who don't like waves. Love that there are restrooms and showers. I can't rate the snorkling part since we did not do that, however I didn't see any interesting thing to justify snorkling since the water is pretty clear, you can see what is under without going underwater.
CONS: sand is rocky with shells, especially by the shore, it is painful to walk barefoot, you need water shoes to protect your feet and comfortable to walk. Ferry was expensive, $14.38 for a very short round trip. It should be unlimited with that price. If you forgot something, want to go to the store for a quick trip, then go back you have to pay another $14.38. Like one of the reviewer said, the lady on the ticket booth was very rude, didn't get her name but I'm pretty sure we are referring to the same person.

Five of us including a 3 and 5 year old went to the island today. It starts with a short ferry ride. You need to take everything with you as although there was a very small shop it didn't appear to be open whilst we were there. There is a water lagoon and ypu can snorkel.
There are many restrooms around the very small island and p,entry of picnic tables with many in the shade.
We waited a while for the tour around the house and the bunker which was very interesting. The 5 year old enjoyed seeing the objects and listening to the information.

This island is wonderful. It's an island park only a stone's throw from the mainland. It has all the facilities you could want for a lovely day at the beach. The snorkeling is incredible right form the beach (and there is a lot of beach on this island so it didn't feel crowded. And peanut island proved to be a great place to take kids for their first underwater experience as the reef is REALLY shallow in some places. The sand is incredible and you can often see manatees here. The shuttle boat was quick, convenient and reasonably priced ($12 for adults, $6 for kids), but the island is so close you could easily kayak over (or even swim). Bring your lunch and have a great day. They also have options for overnight camping on the island.

Don't miss the chance to go to peanut island. We took Cap Joes ferry over. Round trip is $10. We went to the Coast Guard quarters and the Kennedy Bunker. $10. A great guided tour. Call first because it was closed on Wednesday very unusual and historic.

Nice place to visit with your family. Clean beach areas and facilities This park is not
crowded with people and adds to its charm.

What an incredibly beautiful island! The water is the bluest blue, the atmosphere is cool, there are boats, jet skis, and a cheap ferry to get there! Just make sure to cover up because the sun is strong.

I loved it here! I took the shuttle ($16 round trip) and stayed for a few hours because I just wanted to snorkel.
The shuttle is about 5-7 minutes. It’s calm and really nice. I wasn’t able to attend during high tide and still had a wonderful time.

I have always wanted to visit Peanut Island, and finally was able to make it up to Singer Island to so. You have to ferry across. What we did not know is that you had to buy a separate ticket for the Bunker Tour. They also have an area to tent camp. Great hike around the island
Best snorkeling
We have been looking for the best place to snorkel from shore--this is it! After a quick boat ride and a short walk, you will find the most tranquil spot to snorkel, picnic and lay in the sun. Make sure you bring your own food and drinks. Also, you can rent snorkeling equipment from the boat taxi.
