Charming gardens

By Jackjack706 |

Went on a hot afternoon July 4th. Place is well ventilated so was bearable but had it been cooler weather, I may have stayed longer. I stayed around an hour and half at most. Enjoyed all the different plants and rooms was well decorated. Definitely recommend but go in cooler and not humid weather.

We went to see one of their special displays. The special event was a little different than we expected but did not let us down. The flowers and plants were beautiful.

Great place in spring and winter

By dskn2017 |

We go to Phipps every year in the Spring or Winter. During the holiday season, the gardens are beautiful and festive, especially at night. The outdoors is also great with all of the lights. It puts everyone in the holiday spirit. We also enjoy going in the spring. After a snowy season, I so enjoy looking at all of the flowers and even smelling the dirt :)

Absolutely stunning

By Rachel M |

This place is absolutely gorgeous! So many beautiful flowers! It is also a great place for kids. We went with our baby who was only about 6 months at the time. The walkways are a little narrow, but we have a very wide stroller and navigated with no issues.

A Morning To Remember

By Thomas D |

We spent the morning at Phipps. My wife and I have visited Botanical Gardens throughout the world and Phipps ranks among the best. The gardens were beautiful, unique, and well cared for. What also impressed was the friendly staff and their knowledge of the gardens. We asked many questions and they cheerfully answered them all. If you are fortunate Pittsburgh Phipps Conservatory is a must visit.

Beautiful!

By Joellen V |

The Phipps is a lovely place to visit while in Pittsburgh. The cafe is also so very good. Be sure and try the vegetarian chili! It is wonderful!

Worth the hype! Definitely in my Top 3 Things To Do In The Burgh!

By Vinnie T |

Almost 20 years ago, I went there as a child and I remembered absolutely nothing about it, now... ever since I am a CCAC student, I have discount tickets and I've been wondering how this place has this much hype... now I know, it's wonderful!

Pros:
- Absolutely filled with eye candy. Tons of beautiful flowers and trees. It is very surreal and immersive. There is many different sections here to see. My personal favorite section is the Cuba one, although all of them are nice!

- Very serene... unless if you go on a crowded day and/or the crowd is mainly children... they can be noisy for sure. Very Autism Friendly if you go at the right time, it's very calm.

- Unlike the Museum of Natural History next door... Phipps actually changes things around from time to time, our family went to see the Christmas decorations, I can't wait to see what it looks like in the Summer. As for that Museum next door... I don't know why my teachers worship that place... nobody talks about it and it's in bad need of some TLC. Phipps is actually worth your time and always makes things fresh and exciting.

- Very warm inside if it's very cold out. It's great if it's raining and it takes more than 10 seconds to go through... unlike the Aviary.

Cons:

- The directions on how to go through the place are not enforced, meaning that people will be walking the wrong way and will cause clutter. The paths here are very narrow, maybe make it a little stricter or add arrows to point the way.

- The cafe's latte had lots of foam in it.

Notice:

Don't take your kids if they don't like slower paced activities, it will make them bored.

Overall, I don't want to wait another 20 years to return, in fact.. I want to return here very soon. I'd say it's in the Top 3 Things To Do In Pittsburgh (that is not Sports), along with the Pittsburgh Zoo and the Gateway Clipper Fleet. Believe the hype and all the positive reviews, and treat your eyes through a beautiful adventure!

A Blooming Good Time

By Sandra B |

The designs, flowers and settings were truly spectacular and the Chihuly glass pieces were stunning. We definitely enjoyed our two hours walking around the buildings and grounds.

Wonderful place to spend a couple of hours

By RH0001 |

The botanical gardens are a treasure. Spend a leisurely hour or two wandering the different themed exhibition rooms. An excellent family attraction. Be sure to visit the Hawaiian exhibit and the butterfly hall.

Winter Show

By Marie H |

We went to the Winter Flower Show: Home for the Holidays on a January Saturday. We were amazed as we are every year! They did an excellent job with social distancing. You feel such a sense of peacefulness as you walk through Phipps. Pittsburgh is so fortunate to have Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens!

Slip up in the kitchen.

By ImmigrantPunk |

We go to Phipps several times a year, it's a favourite place to take visitors and we enjoy going to all the different shows. This time we went to the bonsai and orchid show. Plants were fabulous. However we always get an email after our visit asking about the visit, concentrating on the H&S and cafe. I usually say we didn't go to the cafe and they want to know why. So this time we planned to have lunch at the cafe (which they state is one of the top cafes in museums in USA).
My husband said his sandwich was very tasty though huge and with loads of extra stuff. I ordered the brussel sprout salad. It was very tasty (albeit with loads too many leaves) - until I found a hair in it. The woman to whom we reported it asked what she could to make it better? Tell the kitchen, we said, improve your hygiene practices. Next time we go I'll know what to say when they ask why we didn't eat there.

Great Visit!!!

By selmar137 |

Great place to spend some time and enjoy a wonderful botanical garden scenery. Due to the covid-19 pandemic you will need to pre-purchase your tickets and schedule a time for your visit. It's worth the price of admission.

Our trip was a Christmas gift from one of our daughters. It was a beautiful evening, we were so lucky to visit on a warmer eveni

By beth c |

The Christmas lights were awesome. The poinsettias were so beautiful. Going to Phipps never lets us down. We have been there for two events this past year. The trolls and the Christmas event.

beautiful huge greenhouse

By cheryl h |

Phipps is a huge, 14 room greenhouse built in 1893. It sits on 15 acres along with 23 distinct gardens. The greenhouse is made up of a tropical forest conservatory featuring different regions of the world and is changed every few years. When we were there it was Cuba with tropical plants, waterfalls, and a fishpond.

In the greenhouse you will find a dessert room, victorian room (pond with reflecting colored lights), broderic room (called embroidery of the earth), sunken garden room (fountains and sunken flower beds), galley room (learning center for kids), south conservatory (seasonal plants), palm court, fern room, serpentine room (changes seasonally), orchid room, stove room (butterfly forest room that is open from spring to fall), east room (streams and waterfalls) and an outdoor japanese courtyard garden.

Since the weather turned bad we missed the rooftop edible garden, kids discovery garden (birds, butterflies, bees, bog garden, sensory garden), outdoor gardens made up of 23 smaller gardens, aquatic garden (pools of tropical water plants (in the summer).

Beauty and nature

By terrycooks |

The various exhibit rooms highlight different climates and species of plants. Take time to enjoy some of the art nestled into the gardens. Kids will love watching the fish in the Koi pond. Make sure you notice the architecture of this grand building as you wander about.

Worth it

By Chris C |

If you are in the Pittsburgh area, Phipps is definitely worth finding time for. Amazing greenhouses with incredible displays. There is limited free parking out front. We loved it so much we became members!

Always enjoyable

By Ima R |

The displays are usually very well done and beautiful. We were there the end of October when most flowers were past their prime and many displays had been dismantled to begin their Winter/Holiday display setups. It was good visit and we had a free admission day with free parking. Staff and volunteers are always pleasant.

Perfect Wedding

By Pitt-Duq |

Our daughter wanted a truly Pittsburgh wedding and she chose Phipps for the event. I was a wonderful experience, and we will have lasting memories. I highly recommend this venue for your special event. The staff was very helpful and accommodating.

Beautiful Decor

By danidb518 |

The Christmas displays were fabulous! We were there Christmas Eve and it was very crowded, but we enjoyed the visit.
Flowers were just beautiful. Got to only peek into gift shop as they were closing, but it looked really nice as well.

Wonderful way to spend an hour

By snderElla13 |

They were still decorated for the holidays and it was quite lovely. I never knew there were so many types of orchids! One of my favorites was the blown glass artwork!

Treat For Xmas Delight

By Ana D |

If you want to have an uplifting experience this holiday season in Pittsburgh, this place is a must!!! the great light decor they put on is worth to see, its just an absolute joy to walk by it. Later in the day is better because there are less lineups. I went at 8 pm and it was perfect no lines!! Enjoy!

Absolutely beautiful

By Mchugh1425 |

The views are amazing and the layout is fantastic. The flowers are gorgeous. So many different types of flowers and foliage.

Rain or shine

By Jeffrey D |

Touring the conservatory indoors requires 2-3 hours. There’s some limited free parking in the street out front for visitors and a lot of 3-hr paid parking on the street heading through Schenley Park. Remarkably large Victorian glass house with a wide variety of displays. Nice orchid collection.

Loved it so much we bought a year round membership pass.

By Laurie D |

Want to beat the winter blues, come here. We visited during the Christmas show and it was amazing. Room after room filled with such visual beauty. Could have spend several more hours here. After our visit we realized that even though we live in Pittsburgh, this should not be just a place for out of towners.

Just a great way to spend the afternoon and appreciate not only what the City has to offer us, but just a sea of colors and beauty.

With one small exception, everything is very wheelchair accessable.

Looking forward to special shows like orchids and exploring the grounds when it is not freezing outside.

One of the best in the nation

By Irma H |

A group of 42 senior adults had a delightful afternoon at the Phipps Conservatory in late October. The place was overflowing with beautifully decorated rooms with fall foliage and flowers. It was delightfully beautiful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff was also very accommodating. I'm sure they must decorate for every season with spectacular displays. Well worth the entrance fee.

Beautiful Conservatory!

By Tricia Velure N |

Phipps Conservatory was easily the top highlight of our trip. Beautiful floral displays for the holidays, gorgeous photo ops, and a health mental break from dreary November in the north. Bonus - fantastic restaurant for lunch. Go to Phipps, 110%!

Nice conservatory

By njmomongo |

Nice layout in conservatory, not much acreage outside. Interesting concept of incorporation of art and plants with Van Gough exhibits. Yet I have access to Longwood Gardens which is 10 times bigger and only a few $ more than admission at Phipps. It makes me appreciate Longwood Gardens more for the beauty they provide: huge fountain shows, topiaries in and outside, Meadows, treehouses, large gardens outside and the biggest conservatory I've seen, and so much more than any garden visit except maybe the US Botanical Gardens in DC ( which is free.)

Amazing! A must go for anyone visiting Pittsburgh

By Matt Anderson |

Phipps Conservatory absolutely blew my wife and I away - it was hands down the greatest conservatory either of us had ever visited. They have done an incredible job making the conservatory more than just a place with a bunch of plants - they've turned it into an interactive (ish) exhibit with tons to learn to and take in. The way they've worked in Monet to many of the exhibits was super cool. This place was the top highlight of our weekend trip to Pittsburgh!

Floral arrangements are just gorgeous

By Visitor |

Excellent place to visit...areas change periodically, especially around the Christmas holidays. Centrally located in a lovely part of Pittsburgh.

Great experience

By Kurt K |

Neither of us are that into botany but the facility changed that. A variety of sections taught us about a cross section of plants. The Cuba exhibit nicely combined botany, culture and politics. Two hours is probably enough.

Beautiful botanical gardens, well-maintained

By John V |

Beautifully maintained gardens with Panama and worldwide species. The entire visit was loved by all. Especially liked the rare fruit trees and unusual species.

Always worth it

By Amy M |

Lovely to stroll through for a quiet few hours, but if you've got smaller kids they also have a garden with activities and neat decorations! Butterfly garden up year round. Cafe may not be to everyone's taste.

Christmas Show

By Bob S |

Always a delightful experience to visit Phipps but especially when it's decorated for Christmas or Easter. The cost of admission has gone up but it's worth it for the sights you'll rarely find elsewhere. Thousands of species are on display in multiple settings. The Christmas display features a railroad with multiple trains. A special treat for the entire family.

An Oasis in the middle of Oakland

By BeawChan |

I had relatives visiting Pittsburgh this past June, 2020, and was a little restricted in what we could do because of the Corona restrictions. My Wife suggested I take them to Phipps Conservatory and it was an excellent choice. There are many many rooms full of exotic plants including a Japanese garden area, a Desert environment, and a Cuban (flora/fauna) area. In between there were also hundreds of other interesting trees and plants to view. Lots of walking but lots of benches so a great place to visit, even for elderly relatives. My Wife and I will be going back soon.

Must see....great thing to do in the burg

By Ginger B R |

What a beautiful garden. I love all the different exhibits showcasing various types of plants, like a cactus room and a bonsai room. Pay attention to special exhibits here..they are usually amazing. I have seen a few, my fave of all time being the Van Gogh exhibit, where they cleverly used flowers to recreate Van Gogh paintings. Must see!

Monet in the conservatory

By c27balstro |

Lovely conservatory and enjoyed the Monet paintings created in plants and flowers. It is an interesting walk through different climes and botanical offerings.

Our happy place!

By A.L |

Phipps is our family happy place! We love taking visitors from out of town and locals who have never been there.

Stunning

By Jill A |

This conservatory was just beautiful. Our visit was in spring with the tulip show taking place. Exceptional floral displays.

Beautiful Botanical Gardens

By Mich_I |

We went to a lot of museums and places in Pittsburgh during President's Weekend and Phipps Conservatory was my favorite out of them all. I love flowers. This place surpassed my expectations. Even my husband and daughter (who I usually have to drag to something like this) were impressed. Many beautiful rooms and areas to explore. Well worth the entrance fee. Highly recommend.

Grand and endless!

By Paul J |

We've been to many arboretums in the world, but this is one of the very finest. We toured the full place, from Christmas rooms with poinsettias to the train (especially loved that) to the Cuba exhibit. We loved the variety, the amazing collection, and the many docents that were there to help us or answer questions. Truly a wonderful place.

Monet at the Conservatory

By Gary F |

The Monet display was amazing and required a lot of hard work to pull off. The old building the Conservatory is in was well preserved and maintained. Seeing some of Monet's best work displayed with flowers and props was outstanding.

Absolutely Fabulous!

By Pachita61 |

We went while the Christmas decoration were still up. The conservatory was magnificent! Every room was better than the one before. A feast for the eye. All the volunteers were super helpful. A great place to visit!

Fun for the whole family!

By moschettoeliza |

We visited the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens with our two-year-old granddaughter and her parents who had just relocated to this city. We were delighted by the friendly staff and the beautiful architecture. A visual feast with options for hands-on activities for the little one made this an excursion we would make again when we visit. We decided the parking could use better signage and structure. The cost of $20 a person seemed steep at first, but there was plenty to see and do for different age groups and interests. A charming gift shop, available food, and exhibits let us wander at our own pace made this a great day. We will be buying a membership for our daughter's family so they may enjoy the gardens and the programs all year long!

Van Gogh is Beautiful!

By Allyn I |

What an outstanding exhibit mixing art, flowers and the life of an artist. This was one of Phipp's best! I walked away with a new appreciation for Van Gogh and there were butterflies everywhere in their room as a bonus.

A Site for All Seasons (But the Holidays are Special!)

By Wendybeth16 |

I looked forward to visiting the Phipps Conservatory on a recent visit to Pittsburgh. Growing up in Pennsylvania, school field trips often took me to Pittsburgh's museums and galleries and Phipps was always one of my favorite sites to visit. My return trip did not disappoint. The site is a must-see, especially for nature and garden lovers, year round (one area even had Chihuly glass sculptures nestled among the nature) but all will find wonderment here during the holiday season. One can relax and view the plant and flower-filled exhibits at a leisurely pace. During our visit special exhibits were transitioning to those for the holidays. Critters of all sizes (shaped from natural material) were fun to spot and identify in one seasonal exhibit. Kids of all ages will enjoy the model train exhibit which pretty much filled another room. Holiday lights, trees, bows and poinsettias added to the holiday spirit! A great place for a family visit during the holidays - or on a gray winter day. Both the cafe and gift shop looked inviting although we did not have time to stop. We found free parking the street. Definitely worth a visit!

Breathe

By Nadia S |

Absolutely a must see… walking through is so peaceful 🦋 We really enjoyed the butterfly room and all the flowering Orchids 💗 The café was being remodelled but that’s okay. We do miss the waterfall and the fish 🐠

Delightful visit

By 141garyk |

My wife and I probably took 100 photographs of plants and ferns from all around the world. We also liked the glass artwork that harmonize with the plants.

Family weekend roadtrip

By Melisia |

Gorgeous set up and easy to walk through and visit all the exhibits. Parking is not to desirable as you had to hope someone would pull out as you're driving through

Wonderful experience!

By Amalia S |

They have a wide variety of plants with their names and an explanation of where they come from. Don't miss it.

Absolutely not worth 25$ for admission

By Anna F |

Many plants look unhealthy, with yellow or sick leaves. Even plants in the National Aviary looked much better though it’s not their main focus. The glass of the greenhouse looks dirty, the metal parts of the structure are rusty, everything is somehow neglected. And finally, that fashion exhibition which is mostly tasteless and absolutely does not fit the landscape. If I would have wanted to see modern dresses, I would go to the fashion exhibition, but I wanted so see plants.

Worth time and entry fee

By Don Green |

There is a charge for entry, but worth every penny. There is an entire conservatory dedicated just to Hawaii. It's deceiving from the outside on how big and expensive this place is. As horticultural novices, we were there almost 3 hrs. More experienced folk could spend many more hours there I'm sure.

Not all it’s cracked up to be

By mrfahrenheit200 |

This place is really highly rated, but the reviews made me think this place would be a bit more exciting. Getting to it was not the easiest. We had to walk all around the building before we found the entrance. It wasn’t clearly indicated. In addition, the warm temperature of the greenhouses did not bode well with the hot outdoor temperatures we experienced today. That all being said, these three exhibits captivated our interest the most: the Japanese garden, the Hawaiian exhibit, and the butterfly house. Don’t come here expecting anything out of this world. However, if you’re looking for a peaceful reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the city, this may be your place. Probably best to visit when it’s not hot out.

Parking

By Homebaseburgh |

Don't bother. Parking is abysmal. So frustrating. Unless you're traveling by Uber it is NOT worth the visit

I love flowers 🌸

By Sightsee59138030685 |

I love flowers. The orchids were beautiful. They were very well maintained and all were very large. I photographed almost all of them. I'm thinking of buying a few of the breeds I like for my home.

Might be Best Christmas Light Display ever

By Practicality |

I have been to many light displays but the artestry of this one was well beyond the norm. The inside of the consdervatory was also beautifully decorated. This is a not to be missed at the holiday season, and a nice visit otherwise, Parking was quite difficult and required most people to use valet parking. I would also note that no one paid attention to the time on the timed tickets and it was clear on the night we went that we could go any time as long as there was a ticket. The later you go, however, the less crowed it is.

Too Regimented

By Michael M |

Phipps is a wonderful place and the staff do an amazing job keeping the gardens flourishing. It is beautiful and it used to be a relaxing place to go. Recently, however they have put up ropes to "guide" people through the gardens. When I was there on Sunday it was fairly busy, which would have been fine if people were allowed to explore the gardens in their own way. Instead, everyone was forced to walk in a single file, look at the same things in the same order and at the same pace. This meant that I could not stop to look at anything closely because there was always someone right behind me urging me along. This approach is contrary to the philosophy that Phipps articulates on their website, which encourages people to slow down and enjoy nature. The crowd and the regimented nature of the "tour" caused me to suffer an anxiety attack. Phipps needs to let people explore the gardens freely, in their own way, at their own pace.

The Best Holiday Daytrip

By Joe M |

Stepping into Phipps anytime is a treasure, but especially at the holidays. The poinsettias at Christmas time, the outdoor bonsai and insectivorous gardens in the summer, and the butterfly exhibit in the tropical area in the spring are all THE BEST!

If in Pittsburgh, do stop at the Phipps

By Rochelle F |

Lovely conservatory and the reason we stopped in Pittsburgh on our cross country road trip. You do need to buy tickets in advance as although it was fairly empty when we visited.

We did need to drive a few blocks away to find parking as there isn't much available by the conservatory.

It was wonderful to see the flowers and it is beautifully maintained. So glad we came.

Fall Flower Show, best in years

By Greg J |

The fall flower show for 2019 is one of the best ever, horticulturally and aesthetically. The Japanese theme of the show is a natural, given the great number and variety of mums on display. The growers have mastered the production of the giant disbud chrysanthemums, which in recent years had been spindly and underdeveloped. Color schemes are beautifully worked out in all the displays, and a variety of shapes and textures yield displays that invite the eye to linger. Too bad the show has a relatively short run, to make room for the holiday display.

Breathtaking

By Richard A |

Beautifully laid out collection of plants and trees from around the world in natural-like settings. I'm not a big fan of arboretums but this place is fantastic. The special Japanese exhibits were overpowering in grace and beauty.

Great relaxing afternoon

By SRQTraveler |

Beautiful place to see all kinds of plants from around the world. Beautiful grounds and we were fortunate to have great weather.

Christmas Lights

By sebring4444 |

I ended up slightly not liking the whole Christmas lights/garden thing. First off, it was way over booked, even though tickets are limited. I grew up on a farm and now understand how the cows felt being herded through narrow spaces. The inside garden part didn't have many light displays, which was a surprise. The outside lights were OK. Parking is limited, had to park far away. Lets face it, its a "tourist trap" for locals.

Beautiful Botanical Gardens

By shirley372 |

Beautiful gardens. We liked the train display. The first area with the bee hive and bees was amazing. Nice place to visit on a cold rainy day.

Beautiful conservatory and grounds.

By Ed G |

Beautiful conservatory building and grounds, some very unusual plants! Lots of greenhouses filled with typical plants, but then some very unusual specimens I never saw before. Very well presented, nice and interested employees throughout. We really enjoyed a couple hours exploring. You can enjoy a sunny or a rainy day here.

Beautiful visit

By Mary M |

Enjoyed the combination of the plants with the artwork and sculptures! The Chihuly sculptured glass pieces were very impressive. Live entertainment added to the experience.

Beautiful garden

By Liza3236 |

I love this garden. Everything is well done and the displays are gorgeous. It's my favorite place in Pittsburgh!

Married Here Years Ago for $100! Still Exceptionally Beautiful! But...

By musicdinosaur |

Phipps is an institution in Pittsburgh. At one time it was free to the people of Pittsburgh. Today it'll cost you a pretty penny to walk around for 90 minutes tops. The cafe is really nice as well. The teenage boy at the door will shoosh you away is you don't have a pretty and proper (useless) mask on though. Beware. Nanny-ism is alive and well at Phipps. Still recommend going but bring your oxygen tank - they've fallen for the Covid scam.

A great annual trip

By Anne M |

Both my husband and I grew up in Pittsburgh and when we return to visit family, one of the highlights is going to Phipps! It's a great spot for all ages.

Nice visit

By Cultural Inclinations |

July 2019 long before Covid. Lovely trip and the flowers were stunning. Multiple paths and corridors to view a large selections of flowers, plants, and trees.

Winter gardens and light show just absolutely fantastic!

By Anika |

We went on December 26th for the Christmas decorations/winter lights show. It was fantastic! Very busy but doable. I would not bring a stroller - narrow paths and way too busy - do everyone a favor and leave the stroller at home. Baby wear or wait to go when less crowded. Not a good time to go if you have mobility issues or a child/family member that would get overstimulated by the crowds. If that's the case, make the arrangements to go another time. My 13 year old daughter loved it as well. We got a 3:30 timed entrance but showed up at 3:45. The family members we were meeting had later tickets (4 and 4:30.) We honestly could have just waited till they arrived and entered together - I don't think that would have been a problem. We entered and started looking then doubled back and hung out in the East Room until our party arrived. 3:30 is a great time for timed tickets - not super busy yet but by the time we got to the lights outside it was dark. However, waiting for other family members to arrive it got super busy at 4/4:30/5:00. Still, fun and beautiful. We ended up staying about 2 1/2 hours. It was rainy the night we went and that didn't really bother us. It would stop and start. I brought umbrellas but even with coats it was fine. Parking was not too hard even on a busy night. Lots of parking. We just drove around and waited till someone pulled out, we didn't have to walk too far. I would make this a yearly tradition. We drove down from Erie and it was worth it.

Excellent!

By Cowleasow |

This conservatory and gardens is a gem, definitely worth a visit if you're in Pittsburgh. Get there early as you will need several hours to see everything. So much to see, and smell, and touch (where allowed).
There was an exhibition when I was there where local students made gorgeous dresses and other clothing out of plants, flowers, and sundry materials. This added to the beauty of the place.

Beautiful and Unusual!

By Christy A |

An absolute must for those visiting Pittsburgh! So beautiful! We were there in early January and they still had their holiday decorations up and we enjoyed it so much!

Fun and safe for the family

By wpeen001 |

Great place to take kids, enjoy outside and look at the beautiful flowers and plants. They currently have a troll theme, where you are greeted by talking trolls, the kids can then look for little doors with drawings and short bios of a troll, with some large trolls throughout the grounds. It kept our small kids entertained. Their Covid protocol is great, you must schedule your time in, hand sanitizers and helpful staff everywhere. They enforce the mask policy amazingly, and make everything a one way path the whole way through. Bravo to this place on their COVID protocol and fun additions for kids!!

Phipps Conservatory mid winter display

By agog1559 |

The spectacular seasonal-themed displays are always first-rate at the Phipps Conservatory and are well worth a visit for garden enthusiasts.

Excellent garden to visit and relax

By Atlas Q |

My friend and I spent nearly 2 hours here. Not only beautiful plants, but also many small or big interesting designs. I really love how they combine the nature plants and the human designs.

Absolutely worth the visit

By MexicaliGal |

My daughter and I love to visit botanical gardens whenever we travel all around the country and fifths has now become one of our favorites. Even with all the Covid restrictions they did a great job of roping and sectioning off the conservatory and gardens so that there was a one-way path throughout where you could maintain social distancing and still see everything beautifully. So glad we went!

Very nice diversion

By epaull |

We were in Schenley Park and decided to visit the Conservatory. Really enjoyed it. They have a current exhibition of "Japanese Inspiration" that was very engaging and photo-friendly. Not sure that I would make the Conservatory a single-trip destination, but it's a great add-on and Shenley Park is fabulous!

Good time at Phipps!

By Susan k |

Great place to spend the afternoon and enjoy nature, people watch and drink a good cup of coffee. Plus, you will learn things about nature that will build your spirit.

Just Beautiful

By Margaret W |

I loved my visit to the Phipps Conservatory - each room was laid out so beautifully, often with glass sculptures and other art installations mingling with the plantings.

Beat the Winter Blues

By Amanda Lynn |

Looking for something to do to beat the cold & blues that come with Winter? Head to Pittsburgh & visit the Phipps Conservatory & Botanical Gardens. Spring is in bloom & as beautiful as can be. At the time of this writing (February 2020) they have a show of orchards & bonsai trees. If you're like me, there's no way you can grow these beauties on your own so why not enjoy someone else's green thumb? This place will not leave you disappointed. Like flora? Enjoy nature? This is the place to go. Beat the Winter Blues & be sent to what feels like another world. Breathe easier & everything. Definitely worth the time & money, & with Google Maps today, not difficult to find at all.

Gorgeous

By Eclecticmama |

I had always wanted to go to the conservatory. My lady friend and I decided to spend the day and see the Vangoh in Bloom exhibit. It was beautiful, there was so much to experience! All the pants were beautiful, many I had never seen before. We watched a butterfly hatch! We learned interesting facts that were posted. It was over all just a gorgeous experience.

Spectacular flower shows!

By Laura |

We were there last for the Holiday flowers and lights show. They change the shows during the year to fit the season. It is worth going at least every season to see the wonderful displays. It is romantic and informative. Love it!

Visited during the Japanese Event and it was beautiful!

By Joy H |

Haven't been there in years and it was great. Lots of people, but they are setup to accommodate very well. Street parking only, but on Sundays it is free. You just need to be patient finding a spot. Plan to spend a couple hours to go through the entire campus.

Beautiful Gardens, Enjoyed the Grounds

By texastravels4 |

We thoroughly enjoyed the Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. Have your walking shoes on, because there is a lot to see here! Phipps has everyone going through the gardens in an organized way to maintain social distancing. You can spend as much or as little time in each part of the garden as you want. There was so much to see in each section. They do a pretty good job labeling the different plants too. They had the Trolls added throughout some of the gardens. For the most part they weren't to obtrusive, but there are 3 areas that have sound associated with the trolls that we could have done without, but children probably enjoy. I highly recommend the gardens if you enjoy plants and their beauty.

Absolutely lovely! Go even if you don't know a lot about plants.

By TheArmenian |

We came in one afternoon in October for the first time. The staff, from the front desk to the people on station throughout the Conservatory, were helpful and knowledgeable. I don't know very much about flowers, shrubs, orchids, and such ... but I very quickly became fascinated by the succession of rooms, each a collection of some type of plant life. Very reasonable fee. Not crowed at all. Will come back!

We did the Christmas Lights show

By Ed D |

Unfortunately it was very windy when we visited, so they had to close the outdoor portion. That said the indoor portion was very nicely done. Would do it again.

So beautiful!

We love to visit botanical gardens whenever we visit a new city. This was an amazing experience. It's HUGE! Give yourself plenty of time to visit because there is so much to see. I got some amazing photos. It was an oasis in the middle of Pittsburgh. It is so well cared for. Everyone was so nice and helpful. There were folks who were obviously regulars sitting in different areas, relaxing and reading a book. If I lived nearby, I'd do that too. Amazing and tranquil. I cannot say enough about it to do it justice. Every room was a different experience. Loved it. Would visit again.

Beautiful Place, Accommodating Staff

By Nicole K |

Phipps was absolutely stunning — every room was more beautiful than the last. The Spring Flower Show was in full bloom and the colors and arrangements were just magical. You can tell how much thought and care goes into everything there.

What really meant a lot to me, though, was how kind and accommodating the staff were. I reached out ahead of time about bringing my special needs kitten, Scuttle, in a secure backpack, and they couldn’t have been more understanding. We followed all the rules, and she just peacefully enjoyed the sights from her little perch. It was such a special experience to be able to share with her.

Definitely one of the highlights of our trip — can’t recommend it enough!

Van Gogh in flowers

By Michele K |

Exhibit of Van Gogh paintings formed in flowers was breathtaking. Always a fine show at Phipps. Loved the Cuba exhibit too

Magical and so refreshing

By Kathleen G |

Thanks to an invitation from a friend, I had the delightful experience of reconnecting with Phipps Conservatory, after a long absence. What a wonderful change of scenery, after months of confinement during the pandemic! With masks and mindfulness of social distancing, the two of us wandered the winding pathways, taking in the collages of colors, textures and patterns at every turn. I am so glad that I purchased an annual membership, rather than just a single admission ticket. I’m looking forward to receiving member newsletters. Parking was very convenient.

Worth it!

By Britt |

Beautiful display of mature flowers and plants! The staff was very nice and knowledgeable. The orchids were beautiful and there were a lot of varieties to see. The large palm room was magnificent! The Cuban exhibit was also breathtaking with the river, waterfall, and treehouse/catwalk. Highly recommend!!

Wonderful 2Hour Visit,

By Karen W |

What a fabulous unanticipated find! I was in town for only 36 hours visiting a relative and wanted a last minute tourist attraction visit. Wow! The Phipps Conservatory is beautifully maintained, well organized, has lots of Chihuly glass displays, a nice gift shop and apparently ( didn’t eat here) an acclaimed museum restaurant. We loved our 2 hour visit and I HIGHLY recommend this as a destination for flower & art lovers! PS The small Cuban exhibit was quite interesting, too!

Winter 2023 visit

By Barbara E |

We visited Phipps during the holiday season at night to enjoy
the Christmas display of lights. Every room had a different and delightful exhibit that was decorated for the holidays. it was a real pleasure to walk thour the conservatory and garden on a winter evening.

Don’t miss this!

By sjs1219 |

I found the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens just spectacular! Many..many..many themed rooms with plants and flowers and trees and theme dressed mahicans! Such a varied mix of living things! Outside areas also stunning. This is well worth a visit.

Van Gogh show was stunning

By Clare H |

My friend and I visited Phipps for the Van Gogh show that they had going on and I can't say enough about how gorgeous and unique it was. I've been to botanical gardens several times before but I've never seen anything like this. And the conservatory is quite a bit bigger than it seems from the outside, so I would say you need a minimum of 90 minutes to see everything at a pretty brisk pace.

Worth a visit while in Baltimore

By Markjoellewis |

A beautifully maintained conservatory in Baltimore. Plant collection is very impressive. Staff was very welcoming and eager to answer questions.

Christmas show always good

By Rob P |

We go to Phipps several times per year and never miss the Christmas show. This year the indoor displays are very good. We were a little disappointed that there was no outside display this year. Note that tickets must be purchased in advance with the pandemic.
Phipps is a wonderful asset for the area.

Spectacular Place!

By Jean C. Taveras |

This looks like a movie set. It is stunning all around and a MUST visit location if you are in town. It’s around a 10 minute car ride from the center of downtown and it’s totally worth it! It takes around an hour and a half if you take your time to see everything so it’s a perfect activity to do with friends, family, a date or just by yourself! I can’t wait to visit again!!

Impressive

By karcyr2017 |

Beautiful display of botanicals! The Van Gogh interpretations were interesting. Multiple buildings/wings got a little confusing, but we remembered what the lady said when started..."keep going right and you can't go wrong."

Something for everybody

By dforstate |

The Phipps is more than a place to look at pretty flowers. They change scenes and displays seasonally like the popular Van Gogh exhibit. Soon they will have the amazing light garden for Christmas. It is a peaceful place to wonder for hours.

More Conservatory than Botanical Garden

By TravelingMamaGlv |

We were expecting to be outside more but the outdoor garden was closed outside the time posted on the website for a wedding. I’m sure the conservatory is particularly lovely on a cold winter day but it was uncomfortable with temperatures outside in the upper 80s (and I generally like heat).

Wonderful Christmas light display.

By VanillaAce |

This self guided tour of the botanical gardens and Christmas light displays are beautiful. A must visit during the holiday season. Some displays are inside and some are outdoors. Would recommend for families and all who enjoy light displays.

Impressive

By BadgerFan77 |

What an impressive Botanical facility. We had some free time on a Sunday and hit the Phipps Conservatory and we were not disappointed. Keep in mind, you need at least 2 hours to tour the facility, but what a great way to spend a few hours.

Amazing Gardens

By AJ Maser pittsburgh |

This place is amazing. The care thats' given to the flowers is incredible. Everything is perfectly trimmed and maintained. Nice afternoon activity while in the burgh. Highly recommend stopping at least once.

Beautiful, bountiful botanical garden

By Tina M |

Botanical gardens are refreshing and beautiful places to visit and the Phipps was no exception to this. Reconnect with the beauty of nature enhanced by thoughtful displays - beautiful Chihuly glass sculptures are thoughtfully placed amidst the plants and there was a fabulous Van Gough exhibit when we visited.... A copy of a Van Gough was on display and then the gardeners “recreated” the painting with flowers - so lovely! Don’t miss a chance to enjoy God’s wonderful creation enhanced by the creative skills of man.

10/10 recommend visiting during the festive season!

By Prerna C |

Phipps is always a pleasure to visit, but the best time to visit it is in December when it's beautifully lit. I love to take a stroll through Phipps whenever I can!

Always Something Different

By Smiling Trees |

Such a special amenity in Pittsburgh. The exhibitions change frequently enough that it makes a great place to go year after year. It's also great in cool weather as a warm respite. And it's great for kids of all ages! COVID protocols were in effect and appreciated - just buy your tickets on-line in advance!

Gorgeous Beautiful location for your wedding! Definitely the spot for any special occasion!

By Larry C |

Best place in Pittsburgh to have your wedding! Gorgeous beautiful location. Great location for any special occasion!

Visit with Friends

By Gary M |

We went during the day after seeing the Van Gogh Show.
Was greeted at the door and was directed where to go. We then walked thru the various rooms all decorated for the season. They had lights all over. Very nice.

Lovely visit

By Karen123WV |

What a wonderful morning. The gardens are beautiful and the current exhibit of Van Gogh inspired tableaus is fabulous. Allow about an hour to wander and enjoy.

Beautifiul

By soulefultraveler |

I am sure any season of the year is gorgeous here, but in late fall on a sunny day, it was spectacular. Vast variety of plants from all over the world in a spectacular building.

Stunningly beautiful

By Wolf Moon |

I was there in late January to see the outdoor Christmas lights and decorations, which I really enjoyed. The gardens inside were also amazing. The place is massive, so take your time, don't rush, and enjoy everything they have to offer.

A Must See While in Pittsburgh!

By vhaas887 |

If you are a plant or nature lover, this is the place for you. Don't skip it!!! We (my Dad and I-no option to choose family without children) came here on our first day in town for a wedding. This was pre-covid so I'm not sure what the differences are now compared to November of 2019. All the rooms were fabulous. I loved the orchid room-so amazing. The rain forest section was huge and hot with a splendid variety of plants and trees. The Japanese section was to die for and very photogenic. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. There was a good restaurant on the first floor we stopped at for lunch afterwards as well. You'll definitely work up an appetite here because it will take you quite some time to look through all the rooms in their entirety.

Always a good time - AND SAFE!

By DrDCal |

We attended the Holiday light display here last weekend and were so pleased! It was very, very safe. If you have been there before during this time, then you understand how chaotic it can be to get in, move about, and even find a parking space. This year was nothing like that at all. Due to the requirement of purchasing your timed passes ahead of time, Phipps is able to control the number of people walking through. We had no issue finding a spot right out front, and many times, we were walking through various rooms with either no people at all or less than 5. Many times we saw cleaning staff walking about wiping things down as well. All staff were masked and adhered to safety regulations.

The flowers themselves are always impressive although I will say not having any of the outdoor displays set up was a big downer. There just wasn't a room for me this year that had a "wow!" factor, but it was still worth the money, time, and risk to go there for a date night with my hubby. We love walking through there. Otherwise it was fine. At this time, it justs good to even have the opportunity to experience something like this during Covid. And it's MUCH FASTER to walk through!

Wrong season, maybe?

By Lisa S |

The place overall is gorgeous but not a lot of blooms in September. I want to return in the spring as I've heard it's amazing at that time of year.

Beautiful gardens

By Relaxed33936 |

Beautiful gardens and very well-organized and interesting exhibits. Lovely grounds and buildings. A must-see.

Great Plant Varieties

By Shelley A |

Excellent collection of plants that are easily accessible and well marked. The space was gorgeous with well organized areas. We very much enjoyed the orchid/fern room and the Monet in Bloom displays. We had lunch in the cafe and visited the wonderful gift shop. I highly recommend visiting and spending a few hours at the Phipps!

Beautiful experience

By Denice S |

Our little trip worked out well with young children. They gave a complimentary gardening periodical that was almost worth the price of admission in my opinion. Billy Porter exhibit was colorful, but not why we came. The outside gardens were just as special as the indoor ones. Wish we could have stayed a little longer with the kids in the children's garden, but we had to beat the meter maid back to the car. 1 to 2 hours is a good time estimate to see everything.

Beautiful Fall Experience

By chelsy s |

Gardens were beautiful. Japanese displays were fabulous!!! Definitely worth the trip. Went on a Sunday morning and was not too crowded was able to enjoy all exhibits.

Van Gogh in Flowers

By achristy2018 |

The combination of beautiful flowers and blown glass was amazing. There was a temporary exhibit where flowers were arranged to mirror Van Gogh paintings. They also have a great selection of Bonsais.

Beautiful Christmas decorations!

By RoxieV |

Their Christmas lights are absolutely gorgeous! We saw an ad for this and decided to drive down; we were not disappointed at all. It was well worth the money spent on our tickets. The lights were inside as well as outside. I know this is there a limited amount of time, but if you are able to get there, you will not regret it.

ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACES I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!

By Serendipitous Grace |

Absolutely one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen and its right here in Pittsburgh!!! The architecture, the plants, the lights- it is just breathtaking. I finally got there for the last day of holiday lights. It was still busy but it is timed arrivals so that it never felt crowded. Make sure to to bring 10 dollars for valet parking- otherwise parking is difficult. Give yourself plenty of time to see everything! I loved this place so much that I am going to get a year membership:)

Relaxing and down time

By 664shawnd |

My wife and I returned here the week of 10-13-19. This is our second time visiting this place. Both times we were treated very kindly from all the workers. They were changing to their Winter decor and it was interesting to see just how much labor is involved at this place. All the workers got along fine with each other and the customers. We ate lunch inside where they serve food and drinks. The sandwiches were awesome and the hospitality was excellent. The money spent was well worth our experience. We enjoyed the visit and will return again one day.

Amazing atmosphere

By Cory |

The attention to detail, and beauty will astound at the Conservatory. Great for an afternoon trip any time of the year. So many different plants!

Awesome display of lights!

By mark g |

We thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the Christmas lights and plants at the gardens. It was beautiful. We spent approximately 1 1/2 hours there. It is mostly inside and a few outside displays. Our weather was 20 degrees the evening we were there. So proper attire is a must in the cold. Highly recommend the adventure.

What a beautiful haven

By Marilyn M |

The landscaping, care, color and places where you can roam are just the best. A wonderful place to spend an afternoon

Very Lovely!!!

By Andrew F |

We both really enjoyed this venue. The flowers were spectacular. We took an Uber from downtown so we did not have to contend with parking. It is an easy venue to walk. I would allow a solid hour, or two, to see everything.

Monet Exhibition

By Adriana M |

The conservatory is all it's cracked up to be. Beautiful garden displays and themed gardens with a lot of opportunities to learn something new. We went during the Monet exhibition and it was really beautiful. I especially appreciated the section on Hawaiin culture and plant usage and how tourism and lack of cultural sensitivity have led to loss of habitats sacred to its people. I highly recommend it.

Stunning!

By nana93992015 |

One of my favorite places in Pittsburgh! Like a mini vacation! The flowers are always gorgeous no matter what time of year you go. The rain forest room has waterfalls and benches to relax and take it all in. Wear your walking shoes. Don't forget your camera!

Beautiful Seasonal Displays of Flowers and Plants

By ajs |

Rooms beautifully decorated with seasonal flowers—beyond your imagination. Children enjoy the train setup, showing well known Pittsburgh locations, and the gardens. Arrive early and miss the crowds. Convenient parking across the street for early arrivals. The butterfly room is delightful in the springtime. Annual membership is a real value.

Beautiful Displays

By Doris W |

Beautiful displays, lots of interesting plants, lovely architecture. You'll need a few hours to see everything.

Fun even if you don't like plant or flowers

By AlwaysDisney |

I am not really a plant person. We visited here while my child was at Pitt orientation. Actual pretty neat. Killed over an hour. Cost for admission was fair $16 per adult I think. Seems like they have ever changing themed rooms. We will go back I am sure.

Stunning!

By Michael P |

The botanic gardens themselves are incredibly comprehensive, interesting and beautiful. The Dale Chihuly glass works are stunning!

We lost track of time!

By Jill M |

We had time to kill due to a late flight that worked out to our advantage. Our trip to Phipps-in-Ptts was wonderful. We had so much fun that we lost track of time and got to the airport just over an hour before boarding. Whoops! This is a sprawling site that's obviously gobbled up adjacent properties and grown over the years, so one does feel like an explorer when trying to find all the nooks-and-crannies. It's the kind of place I would join, if I were local, and would go hide out and read a book once in a while.

We got to the Cafe right before closing, and all the could offer was soup. Whoa. That's some good soup they are putting out! The coffee is dreadful, being warmed coffee-flavored water, but they have wine and beer at the Cafe, too.

This is a good time to go with kids because they want help with killing the lantern flies! Also, parking on Sunday is free.

Beautiful Garden

By Loretta Yobst |

I loved this place when I visited from out of town. Their staff was friendly and bright. The butterfly room was the best part!

Great Plant Collection

By Alfredo H |

Out visit to the conservatory was great. First, there is free parking directly in from of the building, so no need to pay for street parking. The plant collections were very well put together and I was surprised by the vast variety. A surprise for me being part-Cuban, was an extensive collection and display of plants from Cuba. Also, the cafe's food caliber was well above what you would usually find in similar places.

Rude Racist Susan

By Road41823708016 |

There was a worker named Susan who was an absolute pain. She showed no respect to me and my partner (we are college students) and treated us so rudely. She completely ignored us and proceeded to be nice to the nearby caucasian folks. What a waste of time and money! So upset and surprised based on Phipps’ good reviews.

Let’s go Mets

By metswin |

Visited last year-had a troll theme. While in Pittsburg to see a few Mets games we made another visit to the Phipps. This year there was a Monet theme. Really well done, every room was different. Great way to spend a few hours taking in all the plants and flowers. Will be back next year.

Gorgeous Flowers and Chilhuly Glass! Just leave me here please.

By jazzysinger2 |

What a joy the Phipps is to visit! The various rooms display some of the most beautiful flowers. The summer exhibition was an Under The Sea experience - so lovely. Find the crab and see other aquatic aminals portrayed throughout. It was adorable. Then let's talk about the Hans Godo Frabel's Longfellows and frog sculptures in the orchid room - they were just so much fun. The Dale Chilhuly art glass interspersed with fabulous flowers absolutely took my breath away. My mind and soul were so enriched by the calm, quiet, serene beauty of the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. Every space was amazing. I highly recommend a visit.

Beautiful!

By Resort829473 |

Such a lovely place. I will go back again. I look forward to visiting at Christmas. I heard it’s a beautiful display of lights to go with the plants. If you like plants you will love this place.

Beautiful, educational and serene conservatory

By MontrealMan |

The Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens are so impressive! This serene venue provides a calm escape to beautiful and well maintained gardens, art themes, as well as a sustainable wetland atop a roof. This is a must-see for anyone visiting Pittsburgh and it has free parking for guests arriving by car, as well as direct access to the bike path near Oakland. Adult entry fee is well worth the $22.

Wonderful

By EllenChr |

A really beautiful place to visite. The abundance of flowers and plants was amazing. They had an exhibition with artworks in glass placed among the flowers which was amazing.

Winter Show is Stunning!

By Tim W |

Visited Phipps Conservatory on the next to last Saturday night of the winter spectacular. It was crowded, but manageable, even for my 100 year old father who uses a motorized scooter. The indoor displays are gorgeous, but the outdoor light display it worth the price of admission. Although the interior displays end soon, I believe the outside elements remain for a couple more weeks. The times entry system really helped manage the crowd size. Even though we were early, we were granted admission. My biggest complain is the arriving and departing traffic snarl and lack of parking. In spite of this, I highly recommend this specific exhibit and the overall offering of Phipps Conservatory.

Refreshing Experience

By LexiV |

We had a lovely time at the conservatory. We only came because of the Monet exhibit, but I think it would be well worth anyone's time with or without that. It was a bit maze like, but the maps in each room helped to make sure we didn't miss anything. There is also some free parking right in front of the building. We highly enjoyed spending a morning here and would love to come back sometime.

BEAUTIFUL GARDENS

By RJN612 |

The gardens are magnificent. Its location is in a nice, quiet area. The gardens are quite varied, lush and well maintained. Entry fee is reasonable. The staff is friendly and open to questions. It's a nice break during a trip to take a leisurely stroll through the gardens.

Lovely but not quite as expected

By arachne7 |

I had a lovely time exploring and particularly enjoyed the orchids and Chihuly glass mixed in. I expected it to be larger based on other reviews. I took my time and was enjoying taking photographs along the way but I finished in less than 2 hours. The outdoor gardens were small. There were beautiful plants though and quite a variety. 2 areas were closed for construction which was disappointing. I ended up going to the Pittsburgh Botanic gardens afterwards to be able to explore more.

Outstanding experience at Phipps

By jim19034 |

They must have thousands of people keeping everything so perfect. I was overwhelmed by the experience. Also easy street parking.

Good visit, but hot in the afternoon

By bonjour05 |

The Phipps is very nice, but went on a June afternoon and it was very hot and humid-it didn’t take away from our visit, but was a little uncomfortable at times. COVID protocols were top notch-masks required, well marked social distancing. The troll theme they have right now was fun for the kids, but also interesting to adults to see how they formed the creatures out of plant materials.

Special event

By glenn k |

Attended a special event at Phipps and while the event was lacking, the event space was spectacular. Your all the areas and see some of the most beautiful gardens ariund

Fall is blooming in Pittsburgh

By Limbiclady5 |

It's within 3 hours of our home, so we come here often, but it's always worth the visit. I've been a member for several years, but dropped it during COVID. We just weren't going out much. They are doing major renovations, so it was a little disruptive, but all the plantings and the railroad set up were fabulous, as well as their superb bonsai collection. We were there for their fall show, Rhythm and Blooms, and it didn't disappoint. On top of the under glass gardens, the SHOP is great, as is their service. It's always a treat to visit Pittsburgh and the Phipps

Oasis in the city

By BrewsMom |

Lovely, lovely conservatories with Dale Chihuly glass perfectly, intriguingly placed. Disappointed that outside gardens were closed to prepare for an event. Very disappointed that car charging stations (many of which were sitting empty) were for staff only on weekdays. Why couldn't they be available for guests after normal staff arrival times???

Great place to visit

By Diesel225 |

Great place to visit with family & children. The people that work the are very nice and helpful. The employees make the each flower room very nice and distinctive for each type of display.

Lovely galleries filled with flowers and greenery and art and whimsy!

By MidwestKathM |

We spent a lovely sunny afternoon at the Phipps Conservatory. Each gallery has a different theme, and each is beautiful. Currently their summer flower show is Jungle Quest so many galleries had a surprise jungle guest among the greenery! Elephant, crocodile, orangutans, flamingos, and the like!! As interspersed are permanent art installations, most by glass artist Dale Chihuly (be sure to look up in the Welcome lobby), but by other artists as well. We enjoyed strolling about the galleries (with some helpful hints by a docent when we first went in), but did find ourselves a bit confused at times on how to get out and move into the next gallery. Cafe was closed while we were there, so we had to lunch elsewhere.

Do not eat there!

By Ken and Diane P |

Phipps Conservatory is a very worthwhile place to visit. Note the 5 star ratings.
BUT, the restaurant inside the main building is terrible. We ordered the "Carolina pulled pork plate" and gagged the little sliders down. The sides consisted of stir-fry and cold slaw. The stir-fry was cold and the slaw had no flavor. Worst of all were the sliders. The pork had to have been cooked in 10 gallons of palm oil. The whole food experience cast a dark pall over our visit. When we got home we brushed our teeth and rinsed our mouths with mouthwash. My advice is visit Phipps but eat somewhere else i.e. the Oakland or Shady Side neighborhoods.

Orchid Season

By katwithadog |

We went on a weekday in winter, so we weren't the least bit cramped or crowded. The orchid show was going, which was lovely. Only the greenhouses were open, but we spent a solid two hours wandering around. We're plant people by nature, so we had a great time gasping at everything, and of course we bought a plant in the gift shop! so beautiful, definitely worth the drive... just what we needed on a grey winter day.

Christmas beauty

By Chris S |

We were so excited that Phipps decided to extend the Christmas display for a week. We had tickets before everything got shut down for Covid. The displays were gorgeous. The outdoor display was closed this year, but they definitely took extra time with the indoor space. It was easy to navigate through, nicely marked. Everyone was very observant of social distancing. We felt like we had the place to ourselves. There were employees cleaning as each group passed by. If you have the time, enjoy what's left of the season this week at Phipps.

Beautiful Collection!

By misopiso88 |

I was visiting Carnegie Mellon and decided to spend an afternoon at Phipps Conservatory. Such a wonderful place on a cold winter day. Beautiful specimens of flowers and trees! Give yourself enough time to see it all.

World Class Conservatory

By Bethany B |

This conservatory and botanical garden outshines every other one I've ever visited. Excellent COVID precautions and well worth a repeat visit.

Delightful visit to Phipps Conservatory

By Sharon G |

What a lovely place! Beautiful and peaceful, full of delights and surprises. Different rooms have different themes, all beautiful. Highly recommend this place!

Magnificent and Soul Restorative Garden!

By JoAnn G |

Visited here in May during the themed Van Gogh exhibit. Spectacular flowers which gave me ideas on what to plant in my garden this summer. The butterfly garden was so beautiful too. A very restorative place for one's soul.

Lifted my spirits!

By N P |

This was a highlight in my visit to Pittsburgh. It’s a moderate 15-20 minute walk from downtown, and requires about 90+ minutes to really experience.

Nice but small

By janettoli |

We were there in August when much of the flowers were in bloom. Nice garden, if you have the time. We were there when they had the Monet show, glad it fit into our schedule.

Phipps Botanical Gardens

By Jared N. |

Good to know there exists some quality botanical grounds in the city of Pittsburgh. The fact that Scheley park surrounds the area, makes it that much more appealing. Worth a visit , they have well manicured grounds.

Small botanical garden current exhibit of Van Gogh in Flowers

By Deb F |

We chose a 90 degree day in October to visit, but still beautiful. Van Gogh exhibit was extremely well done. But I hear all there exhibits are well done. Be sure to plan on lunch there. Interesting selections with vegan choices. Nicely laid out and friendly workers.

Trolls in the garden now!

By Michelli2011 |

Came here to visit on a Thursday. It wasn't too crowded when I entered at 11AM, but after 1 PM, more people started to come in when I was leaving. I thought this place is pretty interesting, and I am sure my niece and nephews would find the trolls funny. I don't trolls are permanently there, so go when you have a chance.

The best place to visit in Pittsburgh

By Carol A |

Phipps remains my favorite place to visit in Pittsburgh!! Every flower show is amazing! If I had the time, I would go every day just to enjoy the beautiful flowers.
I love that you can walk through at your own pace and literally stop and smell the flowers.
I have always found everyone that works there to be joyful and helpful.
A great place for the entire family!!

Phipps is a flower wonderland!

By Tia B |

Attended the Christmas flower show. The flowers were beautiful and the staff were very good at directing us around the facility. There were several rooms of flowers{ like the poinsettia room the best} Train exhibit was nice as well. .There was a lot of good information about the different kinds of plants and flowers. We were there in the afternoon so didnt get to see the Christmas lights at night. The facility had a gift shop but most items were expensive. They also had a cafe but we didnt eat there. Big parking lot but you had to walk a distnance to the building.
Would go again to see other flower show in the future!

Beautiful Conservatory!! Beautiful Art!!

By Shaked007 |

We purchased timed tickets online in advance due to Covid restrictions.
Be sure to do so if you are planning to visit!!
The conservatory is beautifully laid out and very rich in plants and embedded artwork, which includes some superb sculptures and glass works.
The 14 glasshouses are organized by theme and are beautiful.
There was a Troll exhibit throughout the conservatory which raised a smile, especially for kids.
It was drizzling the day we visited so we missed some of the outdoor areas which was a pity.
Walking into a glasshouse and being confronted by a Dale Chihuly glass sculpture was amazing........The combination of art and plants throughout the conservatory is very rewarding and adds significantly to the overall experience.
Beautiful!! Not to be Missed!!

Visited with some friends on a Sunday afternoon - Japanese Garden display

By dld1717 |

It was a nice relaxing activity. Conservatory is laid out nicely - you just stay in the left lane and you'll see every display. I wasn't overly impressed with the displays. There were some interesting plants and flowers but they could have done so much more with sound and lighting - especially for a Japanese display.
My favorite display was the train village - very well done!
Cafe was very nice - good food, good coffee, nice selection.
The gift shop offered many interesting things to buy at reasonable prices.
The one thing that really bothered me was how dirty the windows were. The whole facility is glass and should be cleaned at least weekly.
Go on a Sunday and parking is free and it wasn't overly crowded.

Christmas Magic!

By lindsay0215 |

We ordered tickets online for the Christmas Magic show. I highly recommend preordering for this. It is so crowded and time slots sell out so I don’t think you can even wait in line to get tickets. Be prepared for a crowd and slow moving line throughout the greenhouse. It’s a beautiful display (inside and out) but the amount of people sort of takes away from the “Magic”. I remember coming here as a young child for the candlelight tour and being the only ones in certain rooms. It’s quite different now.

A Mid-Winter Treat for Flower Lovers

By MBethany |

This landmark has been lovingly maintained and beautifully presented as a treasure house of floral beauty, ecological information, and community enrichment. We were lucky enough to visit during the Christmas display, but I'm sure the center is spectacular in all seasons. The original glass-enclosed structure dates from 1893 but is sturdy and snug: a tribute to historic preservation efforts. Added display areas and showcases blend nicely with the original and create a multi-faceted fantasy world for visitors to wander through. I loved the interactive train exhibit and the clever scenes showcasing animals created from flowers and other natural materials. The orchid collection is world-class. We had to leave before the outside lighted display opened for the evening, but the indoor areas were soul-filling on their own. It's amazing that this attraction is so conveniently located within an urban area.

With Friends at Phipps

By Janice E |

Four of us visiting Pittsburgh on vacation went to Phipps Conservatory with a friend from school who still lives in the area. We were there during the Van Gogh in Bloom exhibit and enjoyed our afternoon very much. I would definitely recommend Phipps to anyone who enjoys Conservatory style floral display greenhouses.

Unique

By Christine F |

Phipps is a really unique place to experience. I have been to a couple other botanical gardens, but none as extensive and historical as Phipps Conservatory. It should be on any Pittsburgher's bucket list of things to do.

Botanical Rebirth

By Crush |

Just walking up and seeing the dome on this building was a mouth wide open moment. A beautiful sight to see. Enjoyed my visit to this lovely place. I was able to see "The Billy Porter Experience" and it was such an eclectic collection of flowers, clothing, gowns, boots and hats on display. Loved the music playn as I ventured all around. A lovely array of many plants, flowers and glass sculptures at every turn. The tropical area was so beautiful and so full of life. It was extremely warm inside. Thankfully, I had a cloth with me I could wipe my face with often. Quite a few waterfalls and tiki huts. Loved the Hawaii experience. I parked on the street surrounding a huge park. I can't wait to return.

Płace for plant appreciation for children

On a cold Pennsylvania day we took a trip to Phipps with my daughters and grandsons. What a treat. All enjoyed the green and colorful displays. Got us ready for spring.

Well worth the visit

By Janet S |

Went to Phipps as a break from moving our daughter into her off-campus apartment. Figured we’d be there about two hours. We were there four. While there are a lot of incredible exotic plants, there are also beautiful beds of everyday suburbia plants that gave me ideas to take home. Especially loved all the Chihuly glass sculptures hidden throughout and the quirky Monet displays. Well worth the visit—just make sure to buy your tickets ahead of time like Phipps requires.

I was amazed!

By MountainStateMatt |

Never in a million years would I have ever thought that I’d want to go to a botanical garden, but I’m glad I did! I know very little about plant life, but what I saw here amazed me! The day I went was very hot, but it was worth it to see some of God’s creativity! I highly recommend!

Cuban propaganda

By Steve W |

I’ll stipulate that the gardens are beautiful. The tiny town with the train is fun. But the featured exhibit of the Cuban experience is an awful piece of propaganda.

Cuba is pristine! because there are so few American tourists! Cuban medical care! Cuban doctors! Cuba suffered after the collapse of the Soviet Union! because that was Cuba’s largest trading partner.

If you’re going to use the written word to explain Cuba, tell the truth. Better to have let the plant life speak, because the fabulists who wrote out the placards just carried water for the Cuban regime.

Money gardens

By tosl |

My wife is a big Monet fan so for her birthday, we came to the conservatory. She, along with my daughters, all enjoyed the visit. You can easily spend a couple of hours here. Parking was free and, although there were others, you can still get away from the crowd. My personal recommendation is the tropical gardens but overall, a very enjoyable stop.

Great!

By Dawn M |

Covid: they are serious about masks, distancing and hand sanitizers. They have marked a one-way path through the grounds that works very well.

We went mid-Sept when few flowers were in bloom but there was still a ton of stuff to see.

Even their gift shop is nicely done.

Very glad we went.

Paradise in Pittsburgh

By ANewYorker |

Diann is a gem to your establishment. She was very professional yet friendly and hospitable. Definitely the reason I will come back. I loved this piece of heaven on PA earth. Anticipate the butterfly season to revisit. The food in the event we attended was great. Drinks were very strong and not well mixed. All the staff we encountered were helpful and accommodating.

Beautiful and Interesting

By OminousRex |

The gardens were amazing! Way bigger and interesting than I expected! Great area for little kids too! Check it out if you get a chance

A Real Treat

By mlong175 |

We were in Pittsburgh for the NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship and went to the Conservatory Friday night. What a beautiful sight. There were many people but everything moved very well. The lights outside were phenomenal. This is a real don't miss for Christmas. Simply beautiful!

Beautiful

By Jason C |

My wife and I both enjoy conservatories and botanical gardens, and the Phipps had a display of Christmas lights, so we came to check it out after finding ourselves in the Pittsburgh area on New Year's Day. The Phipps Conservatory is in a beautiful 19th century building, filled with a stunning array of plants. The collection of succulents alone was worth the price of admission. The collection of plants of the world is vast and varied, and the light display was excellent. We plan on returning in the summer to see their summer displays.

Covid overshadowed

By ReguarPersonPA |

Lovely place and beautiful for sure, but enjoying green houses of hibiscus, orchids etc. with a mask-on and systematic safe population control overshadowed the experience. Suffocating... but not sick to tell. Staff - heroes too!

Winter Woonderland!

By Lori O |

Phipps is a must-do on every Pittsburgh trip! It was beautifully decorated for the holidays, the shop had great new items, and the ecology center is an inspiration. It is WONDERFUL!

beautiful!

By Martha Matt |

the Phipps Conservatory is absolutely beautiful! We were there in October so we saw the fall decorations. We'd love to see it at Christmas!

Outdoor gardens were CLOSED

By Meems060 |

The many rooms in the glass building were lovely—filled with lush plantings. Orchid room was fabulous and we loved all the Chihuly sculptures. We were greatly disappointed that the outdoor gardens were all closed. Call ahead to see if area that interests you is open.

Beautiful garden

By bernice m |

Beautiful conservatory. Really enjoyed the Cuban and cactus gardens the most. The trolls gave a whimsical feeling to the theme. Timed tickets were nice and the garden never felt crowded on a Monday morning. The outside children’s garden was also lovely.

Was good, not anymore. Not for kids.

By Joe S |

The Covid restrictions in place now completely ruin the experience. As a family member holder for 20 years now it’s always been a place for kids to explore (gone now - zero for kids to do) and for adults to wonder. The marked paths butt people up against each other and force this ones in front of you to hurry and those behind you to wait. It’s a horrible experience. They’ve removed every single thing that is interactive including the outdoor area for kids, although just across town, The Science Center is still completely interactive and equally safe - and it’s indoors. The Phipps was never kid friendly, but the sense of freedom to explore helped in addition to the outdoor interactive things and water play - all gone!

The Phipps is super over priced and even more so now. We took 35 minutes to walkthrough and watched most everyone else take the same to 10 minutes more (almost a dollar a minute). It’s a waste of money, which by the way is still full price. All their endowments, private funding, weddings (way overpriced) and now a completely disgraceful (in)experience for the same charge.

Sad day for this place. Disappointment on the majority of faces we saw including ours. Won’t be back under these conditions, won’t recommend. It’s handled poorly and I’m not surprised - it’s a very uppity and snobbish place already but now it’s just valueless as a destination. After 20 years and family members of all ages - we will just let it go for now. Hopefully things will return. Plenty of places handling Covid beyond better than the Phipps.

Fall Theme: Japanese Inspirations

By MsBenm |

I was impressed by all the beautiful plant displays. They took horticulture to a whole new beautiful aesthetic level. The Japanese arrangements were beautiful, colorful, and well done. This is a great place to relax, feel at peace, and take plenty of pictures.

Nice botanical gardens

By BrianE1972 |

Had a really nice morning touring the botanical gardens. Lots of interesting plants and displays. Also had a nice healthy lunch before leaving. Only negative was the lack of signs showing where to park and where to enter.

Beautiful place

By natsm19 |

I went on my own and had a good, relaxing time. It was not too crowded and I could walk at my own pace. My only critique is that the place seemed a bit small given the ticket price, but everything they have inside is stunning and it is worth to go at least once.

"Spectacular"

By Daydream282758 |

This is the place to go to if you want to relax and unwind and enjoy beautiful scenery with flowers and plants. They do an exceptional job all through the year to keep this place alive.

Inspired by art

By futtock21 |

Imagine, if you will. a maze of interlocking greenhouses themselves set in a large park, with displays of plants beneath or within glassworks made by Dale Chihuly as well as recreations of some of Monet’s most celebrated paintings. Add some climbing frames and painting exercises to distract your children whilst you roam through hothouses where orange butterflies with only a few weeks of life ahead of them criss-cross your path and where boxes of caterpillars are raised which will become their replacements. Conclude with a shop itself tickling the senses and threatening the wallet with all manner of preserves, balms and creams and one’s pleasure is complete.

Christmas

By AnnieBag |

Phipps never disappoints but the Christmas display is absolutely fabulous!!! Beautiful flowers inside and outside they have a wonderful light display the entire family can enjoy. It gets pretty crowded during the holidays but just be patient and take your time enjoying everything. Did I mention their gift shop is filled with wonderful goodies?

Flowers and Art make this a must see place in Pittsburgh

By Bill K |

Wow, these are some amazing gardens and I don't now where to start.

How about with the disappointments

1) very warm day and would have appreciated some sort of coldness. Maybe halfway through, put one of those cold wind units they sometimes have at festivals to help cool down.

2) Cafe seems to have great food but I really felt like a cool smoothie or something. They had plenty of teas, coffees (90 degrees) and soft drinks but I wanted something different and they didn't have that for me.

3) The places at bottom of hill were closed off and some not open. Had girlfriend in wheelchair and wish they had a sign outside of Cuba area stating they. Got halfway down and turned around after some people said not much down there.

So after that, this was an incredible place to visit. They have a great gift shop down below with a lot of things from air plants, local jewelry, skirts and I bought a colorful bowl painted in Turkey.

We took the elevators up and started the tour of the Conservatory which was nicely laid out.

The had a Trolls theme which was fun for the kids, both big and small. Every room had fairy doors and various sizes of trolls from a giant trolls taking a bath to a hidden rock troll that you can make sneeze seeing the water blow bubbles. It was a lot of fun looking for them and some were just incredible.

Next, there are a nice collection of statues ranging from Neptune, poet Robert Burns and my favorites, three greek women designed by Edmond Amateis in the Broderie Room. The statues really fit the decor of each room and do not detract from the rooms they are placed.

If you love glass art, the Gardens has kept pieces from various exhibits on permanent display from the amazing artists, Dale Chihuly, Hans Godo Fräbel. and Jason Gamrath. My favorites are the sun like piece in the dessert room by Chihuly and the orange flowers in the Stove Room by Gamrath. This is a premium collection they are putting together which alone are worth the price of admission.

As for the plants, they have a large variety of themes room and areas from desert room, the Japanese garden with koi pond and bonzai trees, the new Cuba room with flowers and waterfals celebrating that countries diversity, the orchid room, the children's discovery garden with fun things and my favorites (the pitcher plants) and a lot more variety. It is amazing to see such wonderfully displayed rooms and gardens. A few areas were closed off for work but there is more than enough to enjoy. They have plenty of spots to rest and on a nice day, you could stroll for hours.

Both I and my girlfriend were very impressed by the place and if we get to Pittsburgh again, we might stop by to see new additions and outdoor areas we missed.

A must see attraction in Pittsburgh for lovers of plants and art.

Fantastic

By Keep Life Simple Allan |

Admission times are pre purchased in advance on their web site. Parking is a bit hard to find so arrive earlier than your scheduled prepaid admission time. The Phipps Conservatory Christmas exhibit was fantastic. I loved the beautiful flowers and the light up show in the back gardens. The tropical Cuba exhibit was my favorite. We spent almost 3 hours of wandering around. Everything is set up to go one way. But you are free to go again and spend as much time as you wish.

Beautiful place never go back read comment

By DuaneH320 |

Took my Filipina wife first time she loved it. Over an hour to go threw. Beautiful. Had people there but if wanted could go around. One thing that really upset us is if you have a EBT CARD CAN GET UP TO 4 PEOPLE IN FOR $3 EACH MY WIFE AND I PAID $22.95 EACH should be the opposite my taxes pay for the place Will NEVER go gack

Great place to de-stress!

By Kat R |

It's so beautiful here! Just so relaxing to walk through all the rooms, and see all the beautiful plants and flowers. My favorite was the Cuba room, so cool!! It just smells and looks so nice and refreshing here, a great stress reducer!

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful

By HDS1 |

My wife and I went to the Phipps Conservatory on a recent visit to Pittsburgh. We spent at least two hours wandering through the different greenhouses, and throughly enjoyed everything. The Cuban rainforest was particularly interesting. We wish some of the plants would have been labeled better.

Super Holiday Light Show

By Joe |

Attended the Holiday Light & Flower event. The event included the decorations inside and outside of the conservatory. We truly enjoyed the extensive light and holiday themed display and appreciated the effort that went into the work needed to present such a festival.

There is something for all ages. The place was packed and parking presented an issue. However, the event was well worth it. The variety of flower and plant life is impressive. We visited after daylight to insure we could enjoy the exterior lighting. But, this resulted in now being able to see in detail all the plant varieties and the themed settings as well. So, the opposite would be true if visiting in the daylight. The decision is yours based on your preference. No matter your choice this will be enjoyable.

Late summer visit

By Bigdaddy8 |

When visiting Phipps, it's almost like stepping into other parts of the world. This past year's Van Gogh displays was amazing to view. Phipps usually puts together a first-class feature display. Don't forget your camera.

I love everything at Phipps!

By Global518833 |

I have been to Phipps many times over the years, and I have never been disappointed. The Van Gogh exhibit was exceptional, for example. The weekends can be a bit crowded, but it's still worth it. The flowers, many times accented with Chihully glass, are beautiful. Be sure to visit the gift shop which contains everything from jewelry to plants to children's gifts. The cafe is award winning. Can you tell I love Phipps?

Disappointed by Phipps for the first time ever

By zoomerain |

Spouse & I went in July. We used to come to Phipps with excitement & anticipation, and countless times over the years have recommended Phipps to visiting friends & family as a Pittsburgh “must see” attraction. This time, however, we were stunned that 75% of the conservatory had been deliberately repurposed as a Billy Porter tribute to drag….zero to do with the horticulture excellence that Phipps had previously represented. It was as if that key element of its horticultural essence had been traded in for woke ideology preaching. This was all the more evident when we walked over to the “sustainability” center building, which was swarmed with hundreds of spotted lantern flies (in all stages of development). We told one of the gardening staff about this, and she couldn’t have been less interested. So, we called it in the the PA Spotted Lantern Fly reporting hotline ourselves. If Phipps isn’t responsible enough to care if this highly invasive & destructive species is within their own facility, they should at least have an interest in protecting their surrounding communities, although it would be difficult to devote their attention back into good horticultural stewardship when they’re more fully committed to featuring drag show homages (which spotted lantern flies don’t devour).
Sad and outrageous to see this multigenerational Pittsburgh icon in decline.

Great holiday display

By David K |

Great Christmas/Winter display if plants and lights. We loved that it was open until 10 pm. Don’t miss the restaurant and gift shop!

One rude staff member ruined the whole experience

By Emma S |

The gardens seemed beautiful and public transportation there was convenient. All of the staff except for one woman were incredible. The one woman was so rude and demeaning, we left before even buying tickets.

DON’T DRIVE HERE

By Patrick D |

Sold out of tickets before arriving.

Wish I could give this place 0 stars because the staff is super unfriendly and rude.

Van Gogh Exhibit

By blnd406 |

Beautiful display of flowers. Amazing how the Phipps continues to astound me and how well taken care of the grounds are surrounding the exhibits. I really enjoy all the Chihuly displays as well.

What’s the opposite of patriotic?

By Robert W |

Zero discount for veterans but individuals on benefits (thanks to the taxes I pay) get one? My family will be spending money elsewhere

Creative displays

By beverly s |

Went to see christmas lights and did not disappoint. Different displays very well put together. So festive. Many exotic plants as well. Train room brought back childhood memories. Outside trees were very well done. Really put you in the festive mood.

Wonderful visit

By Leslie M |

We were there for the Billy Porter exhibit and it was fantastic. Everything was gorgeous! Staff was exceptional. Even the food was good! It was not crowded at all. A very pleasant and relaxing experience. We found easy parking. Overall, a wonderful experience. Highly recommend!

Unexpectedly surprised

By Dave J |

Honestly I wasn't too hip on visiting, but I was pleasantly surprised! They had such a wide variety if climates you walk through and experience vegetation from those regions. BONUS: Great little coffee shop and restaurant inside as well!

Christmas is magical!!

By U3009HItinaj |

We had a wonderful time. I would suggest going later in the evening. After around 9 the crowds died down.

Great visit

By Kelly M |

The area was very clean, staff cleaning throughout. It’s like a gorgeous maze of flowers that goes on for quite a while. Lots to see.

Christmas Lights and Festive Plants

By MaryDiSalvo |

We toured the decorated gardens and indoor greenhouses with the family. Even though it was in the afternoon, the lights looked festive.

Lovely Visit, Wish There was More

By MommaJage |

Our family returned for another visit to this beautiful facility. It has been a few years and now things are very different for COVID. We needed to purchase timed tickets ahead of our visit.

It is still a lovely place and the one directional paths are pretty well marked. Our Sunday afternoon was busy with weddings that blocked off certain areas.

There are many wonderful gardens and rooms to see. It is well maintained and full of interesting plants.

Took a few hours for us to see everything and wasn't overwhelming. Wish there was more to see. For the price, we were surprised to be done so quickly.

On street parking can be found if you look carefully.

Beautiful. Perfect on a rainy day

By edvh81 |

It was cold and rainy so we decided to check out the conservatory. To be fair, I was not excited but went along. I’m so glad I did. The flowers and plants were beautiful and well arranged and taken care of. We were told to go up the stairs and keep making left turns. We did that and found room after room after room of plants and flowers. Each room was themed and very well done. Overall we spent 3 hours touring the conservatory. Take the time and go view this amazing attraction.

Gorgeous, serene green space

By dustythoughts |

I came here with friends to take a break from the constant thrum of meetings, and we were all so incredibly glad we took the time to come here! It's a beautiful, calm space in the middle of an urban, industrial area, with lights and explanations in each area. Each part of the conservatory was different and unique, but all were fascinating. A simply magical place.

Great Christmas Flower Show

By Ruby Red |

Had a wonderful evening at Phipps on 12/28/22 to see the Christmas and Light displays with friends. Parking was efficient due to valet parking for $10; recommend take advantage of the valet parking because parking is challenging otherwise. Our assigned time was 7:30pm and the flow of our visit from room to room was good, not over crowded at all. The flowers were beautiful as always. I loved the orchids and the Christmas Amaryllis. The outdoor lights were so pretty, however one section of the large globe balls were not lighted. There is an outdoor kiosk for hot drinks and mulled wine if interested. Really enjoyed the experience and would go again.

MOST INTERESTING PLACES IN PITTSBURGH

By arta |

By far a "must see" when visiting Pittsburgh; on the busway among several universities near by. Great stop during a college tour or fieldtrip for students or scout troops, even homeschoolers. Also great spot for natives who haven't been recently.

On 15 acres, with 14 glass covered rooms & 23 ever changing garden arrangements, one of my favs being collection of Bonsai trees & holiday scenes. There is also a café on sight for refreshments.. They have guided tours as they walk you through the wonderous scenes or your family/group can stroll among yourselves with the freedom to see what most interests you.

Now on view Winter Garden Show with seasonal flowers, decorated trees, twinkling lights all set inside a....wait for it,...a glowing glass room! WOW! Amazing sights & scents sure to make great memories!

Always a family favorite is the Garden Railroad Exhibit & keeps children of all ages entertained for hours with all the moving parts & built in lake, with many locomotives, moving see saw, miniature outdoor scenes of hiking, biking & others with tiny people mimicking the city. Be advised that for the safety associated with the coronavirus tickets must now be purchased in advanced and masks worn.

In addition to sights to see on location, Phipps always offers virtual educational classes for adults & really entertaining virtual story reading for children of all ages. Check out their educational websites for all the details and get your tickets in advance!

Stunning seasonal floral dusplays

By Brenda P |

This is an amazing botanical Garden! The Greenhouses seem to go on forever with one amazing themed garden after another. I have visited in the summer and this past weekend for there Holiday display and was impressed both times! Must see venue in Pittsburgh!

A Treat for the Eyes and the Soul

By Sophie P |

We visit Phipps every Christmas to see the flower show. We go during the day because the crowds are too much to manage at night and there is nowhere to park. This year's show was beautiful as always. I loved the farm to table theme in the train room and the Cuba exhibit in the tropical section.

Lovely!

By Nancy F |

Beautiful floral arrangements / plantings! Cannot go wrong with a trip to the Phipps! No matter where one walks there is beauty!!

Visit with Santa

By Linda B |

A feast for the eyes. Hadn't been here in many years and forgot how much there is to see. It was decorated for Christmas and Santa was also present. Beautiful. The train room is awesome. Granddaughter not a fan of Santa but she's only 17 months old! Next year!

Wonderful Experience

By ValGary2014 |

We visit from out of town and loved this place. It has an outstanding collection of plats, flowers, trees, etc. We will definitely return.

Beautiful gardens!

By mar |

I visited Phipps for a fun little day trip. It was a beautiful location, and a perfect activity for a day off. They had a wide variety of gardens, with a host of multiple different plant species. The various plants and flowers featured were absolutely stunning, and there were quite a few informational boards which had displayed history and fun facts of the location and gardens. Interactive exhibits were also included, and there were a few child friendly activities along the way. We visited when it was late March, so it was still quite cold outside. I believe they have outdoor gardens as well, but I did not venture out. Additionally staff was so friendly, and very informative! Accessibility was okay as well, they have wheelchairs available at the front desk, and automatic doors at the entrance. One room in particular was not said to be wheelchair friendly, which is the historic stove room. It was discouraged as there was a very steep incline and it would present difficulty for patrons. Elevators are available, as well as seating areas sprinkled around the exhibits. Overall, beautiful location with a lot to learn!

Beautiful plants and building

By Mark37Chicago |

Absolutely beautiful. Even the building is beautiful. Lots of special exhibits and lots of work going on while we were there (replacing plantings, etc.). Beautifully maintained. Much larger than most similar greenhouse gardens I have been to. This is an easy walk from the Carnegie Museum of Art.

Amazing, worth the cost of admission

By kelseybundra |

Check the hours and days they are open beforehand because I tried to visit on my first trip to Pittsburgh but I stupidly went when they were closed. I was able to finally witness the beauty one day. The heat in August was difficult but the beauty was worth it. There was even a butterfly room. There are rooftop gardens too. This is a must see in Pittsburgh!

Beautiful spot, so worth it!

By Rylie B |

This place was really great and very well put together. There was free parking, which was a pleasant surprise. The flowers and buildings were beautiful. Definitely a great place to stop in Pittsburgh.

Great Way to Kill Time

By OakvilleGal |

The many different rooms of floral exhibits were varied and interesting, as were the art structures interspersed. It was beautifully decorated for the a Christmas season. Also, the mini city with railway tracks and trains was a highlight and there were a good number of kids and adults alike engaged.

It got warm in there after a few hours but nonetheless, glad we paid for entry. Got some lovely pictures of our group of 4 ladies with floral backdrops and we enjoyed browsing the gift shop as well.

Summer at Phipps

By Tesh |

What a wonderful experience. We visited specifically to see The Billy Porter exhibit. So glad we did. Of course, visiting all of the other displays was great too!

Magnificent on so many levels

By Susie J |

This is the most well done & beautiful conservatory & garden. They don't advertise it but they have several Chihuly glass pieces. They also have a beautiful & unusual butterfly area.

Beautiful flora displays with Trolls

By Familytravelmaven |

We visited Phipps during graduation weekend as we hadn’t made it there in the four years of our sons college experience. It’s huge and the rooms go on and on with vegetation from all of the continents. They had a Trolls exhibit going on which made for some great photos of the unusual sculptures. My only comment is that it was 80 degrees outside and felt like 110 inside the greenhouses. We were all overheating and couldn’t fully enjoy the space. It’s probably a wonderful place to go when the weather outside isn’t so nice. It’s worth the price but must get tickets online before arriving.

Christmas Lights

By ARTJPL |

Highly recommended by a Pittsburgher local, the venue lived up to its hype. The Conservatory is deceptively larger than you think as there are multiple conservatories linked together so you can appreciate while being sheltered from the elements. The outdoor gardens are lively, too. Just remember to be bundled up. Currently, Christmas themed scenes and lights in addition to permanent Chihuly and other glass artists’ works.

My happy place

By Melzie326 |

We have a family membership to Phipps. We go to each show they do and it never gets boring or repetitive. The staff is so creative. We take family and friends there often, as well. People are always in awe of the displays. The food in the cafe is delicious. And the gift shop is wonderful. Definitely worth a visit when in Pittsburgh.

Visual Treat

By Don |

It is a beautiful place to enjoy the nature being at its best. Very well maintained and decorated. The arrangements made with the themes are always a treat to watch and enjoy.

Must Do

By Maura M |

We spent over 90 mins wandering through this awesome conservatory. It is so well done! The only downside was the music playing (too loudly) through the entire place.

Where fashion meets flowers

By Kim S |

Beautiful conservatory! Loved the theme of fashion meeting flowers. Great music playing as you walked from room to room. Has a neat gift shop and cafe. Loved my visit!

Plus for the plants but glasshouses are cramped.

By MsSmith-UK |

Some very impressive glasshouses - which is all I saw. I was very impressed by the curation of the plants in the glasshouses. All were very good quality and well presented.

However, the glasshouses are quite cramped and not easy to move around when negotiating paths alongside lots of group tours.

Not quite so impressed by the mount of paper hangings and the impact of weddings on people trying to visit for its original purpose.

Gardens meet Monet

By Robyn3274 |

Left the teenagers at the Airbnb and was glad for that. I don’t think typical teenagers would have enjoyed it but for me, a lover of flowers, it was great. Really the thing that sets it apart from other gardens I have visited is how it merges art into the displays. I went and saw the way they brought the Monet paintings to life. I went on a Monday afternoon and it was not busy at all. People were there but I had plenty of opportunity to enjoy the flowers and take photos without people in the rooms with me.
One thing that is kind of obvious, but that I overlooked is that is is HOT inside. Like super hot. I was in shorts and a tshirt and very uncomfortable. I’d wished I’d worn a flowy shirt or tank top (though it’s so beautiful that I would have felt underdressed in a tank top)

If you like plants (so nice)

By Nani R |

It took about 1 1/2 hour to walk. Its very nice and it's clean. The employees are nice, there was a part being remodel. Cant wait to see it next time I visit Pitt. The theme rooms are so interesting. The flowers are beautiful. Everything is nicely kept.

Fun for all ages, enjoy the experience!

By Zieglerx2 |

Halloween Fall theme was great! It will be there until November. I am sure
Xmas time would be great to see as well. It’s mostly inside, they have a cafe, gift shop, and trains.

This was just OK, nothing particularly special, but we enjoyed ourselves

By 907blaked |

I was fully expecting to give this five stars, but quite frankly, the gardens underwhelmed us just a little bit, both in size and interest. Yes, it was well taken care of, but I didn’t think the specimens were anything particularly surprising or amazing. It was a great way to spend about 60 minutes, but I wouldn’t say this is a must do on your trip to Pittsburgh. It is enjoyable, but not quite as spectacular as I was hoping.

Visually stunning!

By Carrie G |

Stunning! The conservatory is so full of amazing plants that it’s truly a must see! Each section is thoughtfully designed and just absolutely beautiful. We spent two hours as a family and could easily go back and spend another 2. Well worth the visit, and the admission.

unique setting for a wonderful Conservatory

By Rhroncich |

This is an extra ordinary conservatory. We went during the Billy Porter fashion/flower exhibition. If you have a child with special needs, use their care card to enter for $3 each, up to 4 total under the PA Museums for all program.
We were here about 5 hours and visited every room. Each place had it's wn themes and plants and educated us about what we were seeing. The boys liked the outside roof section where everyone was encouraged to kill the invasive spotted lantern flies. Children's hands on area was delightful.
Appeals to adults as well as kids. Parking can be tricky, so go early and be prepared for the challenge. The docents were particularly helpful and chatty. We greatly enjoyed going here.
As it was in the 90s, we didn't spend as much time outside as we might have, but I highly recommend this place, at any cost.

Great gardens, very kid friendly

By GoPlacesJudie |

this was such a unique experience. The theme was the jungle and all the displays, including animals, were made of plant materials: think the Pasadena Rose Bowl Parade. I am a member of Longwood Gardens and love visiting the indoor and outdoor displays. This garden experience is primarily the conservatory, so is mostly indoors. I wasn't sure if I would like it, but it was so incredible. The children's garden and the butterfly house were wonderful.. To add to it, there was glass art sculptures throughout. And very child friendly with interacting with the "animals" by waving a hand over a sensor, so no touch.

A special place

By nancy3310601 |

The Van Gogh display this year was spectacular! Being able to walk through his paintings and feel part of them was an experience I will always cherish.
The Cuban section was also fascinating. I felt like I had been transported to Cuba. They decorated everything with a Cuban flair, and even played Cuban music. It helped add to the experience .
I am looking forward to what they will do next year.

Nice garden

By BW1122214 |

We came here for an early afternoon visit. Everything was well maintained and prepared for Covid-19. Very peaceful in places and whimsicalnin others. Would recommend for all ages.

A Treasure to Enjoy

By bluelaketime |

Phipps is a true treasure. It is a green oasis that is truly one of the best botanical gardens in the USA. It is a great way to brighten your day all year round and especially in the cold dark and dreary winter months. Fantastic displays by season with unusual and creative use of all types of plant and plant materials. And before or after tour visit the cafe which is a great place to have lunch, a snack, or just a cup of tea. Cafe is well designed with all healthy foods and conscious of any food allergies or special dietary preferences. My favorite place to be!

Orchids galore

By Massimo Oriani |

A bit out of the way but easy to reach via bus from downtown Pittsburgh. Wonderfully decorated spaces for Christmas. Loved the orchids! Worth a couple of hours of your time

Awesome!

By Pam4280 |

The Phipps Conservatory was an amazing place to visit. So many awesome things to see. This was a great way to spend an afternoon. I would definitely visit here again!

Wonderful experience

By MichelleBEVA |

We recently relocated to the Pittsburgh area, and have visited the conservatory twice already. We bought an annual membership. Highly recommend! It's our favorite place in the city so far.

Lovely!

I had just one day in Pittsburgh, and after the city tour, could choose only one activity. I made the best choice! The Phipps Conservatory is a wonderful botanical garden.
Small, intimate spaces with beautiful exhibits, friendly and informative staff. The Phipps is a restful oasis in the city.

Always a treat!

This place is wonderful. We try to visit once a year when we are in town. I even remember going when I was a little girl (many years ago). They have a children's garden with activities so there is really something for everyone who loves nature.

Beautiful plants, awesome visit

By SEG |

I couldn’t believe how beautiful and enjoyable to is place was to walk around. I expected some pretty flowers, but the orchid show exceeded my expectations and it was the best money I’ve spent in a long time. If you enjoy plants, this place is magical! Was in town for business and had a few hours free- so glad I chose them to spend at Phipps!

Sunday stroll through the gardens

By princepn |

My wife and I had a wonderful time strolling through the many gardens. The wide variety of plants was amazing. Great time.

Mary and Owen...

By 無名 |

...took me to this place. Owen's a little kid. It's still cold and brown outside, so it's nice to visit a place to see some green. Not sure I would want to pay I think around $20 for a single admission. My friends have an annual membership here so they come and go and can bring a guest anytime they want. I walked around the whole place. One area has bonsai; another highlights Cuba (which I thought was real interesting). There are some model trains that Owen liked watching. They also had this like fake vegetable market for the kids to play shopping in. We spent a few hours here. I think it's a great place to catch a dose of nature when the weather outside makes that difficult otherwise.

Renew Your Spirit Here

By Mary H |

We try to find the botanical garden in any city that we visit because they are so beautiful and relaxing. Phipps is as good as any we have experienced. Gorgeous flowers, amazing garden designs, water features, Chihuly sculptures, and a fun "trolls" theme to engage the kids, large & small! We did not eat at the Cafe, but it is apparently award-winning. During our visit, a wedding party arrived. I cannot think of a more beautiful setting! Treat yourself to a few hours at Phipps.

Phipps is well worth a visit

By Frenchgirl |

Phipps Conservatory has changed much over the years, and generally for the better. With the new visitor entrance, it's much easier to check in, and maps and a phone app help you get around. They seem to be moving much more toward the botanical garden side of their mission and much less toward the flower shows I remember from years past, but they are doing an interesting job of it. Still well worth a visit.

Fun Afternoon

By MillDawn89 |

We spent two hours exploring the Conservatory. It was beautiful and well done. It did get warm inside and you were not allowed to bring in water bottles. There was a cafe on site. Parking was tricky on the weekends but we found a street spot about a quarter of a mile away.

Lovely plants and flowers!

By Bonnie B |

We liked the Conservatory - but I'd recommend taking public transportation or Uber because of the available parking leaves a lot to be desired. The place itself was nicely set up and had a number of cultural gardens - some with water elements. Docents were very helpful. Maybe not the most kid-friendly (there is much there too tempting for your average 2-9 year olds!). A little cramped at times. And HOT. Dress lightly - you'll thank me later, believe me! They have a lovely cafe with smoothies, juices, coffees and things to eat. Our first time there - and we couldn't walk the gardens because of the rain, which we were disappointed about. Very wonderful place to visit!

Both the summer Van Gogh exhibit the holiday one this week were outstanding.

By Akamum |

First time here was two years ago and have been back several times since. My adult children live in Pittsburgh and one of them now maintains a membership. This place is hands down awesome. I have been a member of the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, IL and Hershey Gardens in - well Hershey, PA - but this place just captures my heart. If I lived in Pittsburgh, I'd be there every week and likely volunteer. And to top it off - the little on site restaurant has excellent, healthy and tasty options with - imagine this - good service. Loved the holiday show. And I visited with my adult daughter - but Trip Advisor - has only 'family, young children or teens' as family options - so checked friends since she is also my good friend.

Wonderful

Absolutely wonderful, as usual! Great for everyone! The aquatic theme was very cleverly presented. The butterfly room was alive with fluttering butterflies, which was magical. Such a relaxing place.

Floral favorites!

By Dede K |

My husband and I are huge Phipps fans! The first time we visited was for the “Hidden Life of Trolls” installation. The second time was the “Monet in Bloom” (my favorite) and today for the preview of the Spring Flower Show, “A Bloom for Every Room” 🌺

During the Trolls installation, florals were planted around different versions of trolls. You never knew where one would be peeking. Monet took paintings and brought them to life with florals and displays. So creative!

Each room is dedicated to a different signature spring bloom in this year's edition of Phipps' Spring Flower Show. I just love spring’s beauty! Fresh blooms throughout different rooms gives you all the sights, scents and even sounds of the season. Fountains and waterfalls are so tranquil and located throughout the rooms and outside.

Lots of seats throughout to just sit and listen or watch. We love visiting!

Gorgeous

Went to Phipps conservatory on a short weekend visit to Pittsburgh. Absolutely beautiful ,relaxing place to spend a few hours. Saw the orchid and bonsai exhibits which were awesome.

Great COVID precautions

By Beth R |

I've always enjoyed Phipps, but was really impressed at my visit today by their COVID response. Timed tickets are required and visitor numbers are kept low. Check-in is through a plexiglass barrier. There are hand sanitizer stations throughout the one way path. Masks we're worn by all. lt seems that they were taking every precaution and it felt as low risk as is possible in these times (I say this as an epidemiologist).

Beautiful

Phipps is always wonderful. Every exhibit is beautiful. It's the perfect way to spend an afternoon. The cafe is real good too.

Didn't warn me that Outdoor garden was closed for a wedding b4 I bought ticket

By Cathy D |

Listed on line as being open until late 10 pm so I paid my $20+. Ticket seller did not advise me that a major interest of mine, the Outdoor garden, would be closing @5. I first toured the indoor gardens then went to see the outdoor area. Closed for a wedding. Had I been told, I would have changed my sequence to see those 1st. One sentence would have been a huge help. The parts I saw were lovely. Sad experience when one has flown to the area to see it.

Phipps Summer Show!

By Spencer H |

Phipps is always a go to place when I am visiting the Pittsburgh area. They currently have a butterfly exhibit which is neat! They have different things including bugs and frog's currently. I highly recommend going soon to see the summer flower show. The large animal art on display seemed to be made out of plants entirely which was very cool.

Take your Christmas detour now! Stop here!

By Turner A |

Wow! Completely worth it. The lights will make you smile, the plants are worthy, and the arrangement is money! Absolutely amazing! Decent price for adults. Someone is paying a big electric bill. Valet parking available!

Loved the winter light show!

By nikkielynn07 |

My husband and I came for the winter light show. Tickets needed to be purchased weeks in advance. I liked the idea of the timed tickets because it was less crowded. All of it was outstanding and I especially enjoyed the outdoor light garden. This is a must do for the holidays!

A Spectacular Garden Conservatory!

By CaledonON |

The conservatory is a group of connected Victorian greenhouses, each with plants and flowers from a different climatic zone. It's one of the best we've ever seen.
It's a large place so it doesn't seem crowded.
Parking is just across the road but quite limited.

Had an amazing time exploring Phipps!

By Annie A |

Spent about 2 hours walking through the rooms/gardens. Average time is 90 min, but the relaxing, beautiful spaces kept me lingering a bit longer. Loved the Chihuly glass sculptures scattered throughout and the contrast of rooms from tropical costa rica to desert cactus plants to bonsai trees and koi pond. One of my favorite stops in Pittsburgh!

Stunning Christmas Display

By Rebecca P |

We are never disappointed when visiting Phipps. This year's Christmas display is a joy to behold. I am temporarily wheelchair bound & it was easy to get around. Our family encourages everyone to visit Phipps over the holidays.

Always beautiful

By Martha S |

We go to Phipps Conservatory at least twice a year, and it's always beautiful and never the same as we saw before. A few sections are permanent, but the flower show events, especially at Easter and Christmas are different and very, very colorful and full of interest. This is a top choice!

OK, but not the CBG or Longwood

By zebramom |

Travelling during Covid has been pretty disappointing overall. Yes, the pandemic is receding, but it's not over. We toured the conservatory and botanical garden in about an hour. There wasn't that much to see. It has a troll theme throughout which I found irritating. Kids may or may not like it. There were talking trolls all over the place, which I think might scare some kids. The plants looked a bit weedy outside, and little was blooming, but what can you expect in mid-July? We were expecting something more like the Botanic garden at Penn State, which is very large and nice or the Chicago Botanic Garden, which this definitely is NOT. It's not Longwood Gardens either. I don't think I'd waste my money visiting as there's not enough to see and it all looks pretty worn down and slightly unkempt.

Dance party?!

By 134adf |

Dance party music playing?! Wtf? Kinda ruins experience. That plus the price is ridiculous. Otherwise flowers are nice.

Anniversary Weekend

By Charles H |

A wonderful display inside and out. Staff everywhere and very helpful. A wide variety of flowers and trees beautifully decorated for the Christmas season.

Well worth the price of admission

By StefJax |

If you like flowers and have a few hours to kill this is a beautiful way to do it. The conservatory has different, ongoing exhibitions that add a little something. All the rooms are beautifully arranged and they have all sorts of plants and flowers to see. Definitely worth a visit for all ages.

Worth the visit!

By Jenny G |

Beautiful building inside and outside. The displays were magnificent, well thought out and easy to navigate. Ate at cafe which was delicious and healthy.
Thumbs up for the whole
Experience! Highly recommend!

Mixed feelings

By Chris B |

Let me start out by saying that the gardens are simply amazing! The fall Japanese garden display is very well done and we enjoyed seeing them. We did feel, however, that the admission price was a bit steep for what you get. We were able to do the entire thing in less than an hour which made it the priciest stop of the day. We've done other botanical gardens that have expansive outdoor gardens which we felt were missing here.

Fair

By Judith C |

I love going to Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh. The beautiful plants and the sculptures are an added bonus. We went on December 29 and they were decorated for Christmas. If I'd known about all the lights, we would have waited till later in the day to see all the lights after sundown. The down side with Phipps is the lack of parking. I ended up parking up on the hill from the Conservatory and when we got back there was a parking ticket for $55.00 on my windshield. As it was a poorly designated no parking zone, I had no recourse but to pay the ticket. Beware of where you park!

Beautiful winter activity at Phipps

By PennsylvaniaDrin |

Pure tranquility! Orchid show was beautiful! Enjoyed food and festivities of the Cuban celebration! Altogether wonderful experience for me and my bestie. Thanks Phipps ♥️🌷🌸🌹🌺🌻🌼

Excellent Experience

By Mark P |

This is a large and pretty spectacular set of greenhouses and other indoor installations, along with outdoor platings too. The variety is notable, and the plaques throughout are interesting.

Garden date

By Kristin G |

Very beautiful gardens, great spot for a date. I liked how it seemed like a maze and each room was different. It was very warm though, would recommend going on a cooler day.

Wonderful blend of plants and creative lighting

By Ernest |

Our visit was in mid-afternoon, but as we were about to leave, all the Christmas lights were turned on, and an attendant urged us to make another round, which was just short of thrilling. There are thousands and thousands of plants in engaging settings. Some of the plants have been there "forever," but for each season there are creative special displays. One of the highlights was Arctic animals created from plants. Another was the expansive outdoor lighting display (open from late afternoon until closing). The train display is always fun. The permanent collection of Chihuly glass, strategically placed among the plants, is always a treat. There is a reasonably priced cafeteria with an interesting menu.

Beautiful!

By prettybird |

Really enjoyed the visit here as we love the beauty of various plants, trees, and flowers. Great themed displays as well. Great indoor activity on a rainy day!

Awesome!

By travelbug41563 |

Awesome to visit. Beautiful plants & flowers. The different rooms like the dessert like conditions, the orchid room it was all very nice.

Amazing place

By Rodrigo C |

It's not by chance that this place shows as 1st attraction in Pittsburgh. Well worth the visit! If the weather is good, you can also enjoy the park outside!

Greenery with soothing music, not so many flowers

By Wildflower Hawk |

More green than floral, still a lovely place to spend an afternoon. I arrived in the middle of a week day and was greeted by a lovely older staff member that gave me detailed instructions on how to see a baby pineapple that was finally bearing fruit. I did not look for said pineapple but assume it exists. Not as many flowers as say LongWood Gardens but there are 13 gardens which right now include trolls and some spectacular glass flowers. Great date idea and surrounded by beautiful Schenley Park which is nice for a picnic or dog walk.

Avoid during Covid

By Linda R |

DURING COVID they have everyone winding through the place basically in single-file. If you get behind a group that is simply fascinated with that cactus, you must just stand there until they move along. I found it to be a maze that I couldn't get out of. There was no way to tell where you were and no way to skip sections. For the first time in my life, I felt claustrophobic. I was very frustrated!!!

A beautiful afternoon

By Alan B |

We were on vacation in Pittsburgh and came here one morning. It was a fun diversion from the busy city. The exhibitions were clearly labeled and beautiful. The theme was “Under the Sea”, which wasn’t really that prevalent in the displays, but that didn’t detract from the beauty. It’s a manageable size and we were able to see almost everything (some exhibits were under renovation).

A Lovely Garden

By ms57-ny |

Lovely Garden. Succession of floral displays. A little too much oriented towards kids, due to the troll displays. Overall an enjoyable experience.

A splendid presentation

By mathstud |

The gardens are well thought out and include much detail. There is a variety of plants. It was a rainy when I went, and there was still plenty to see without getting wet. They had a Monet theme when I went. The price was reasonable. The parking was free. Just park in the middle parking lot across from the entrance. The one thing is that you must purchase your tickets ahead of time either online or by phone.

Wonderful place!

By Cathy |

My daughter and I loved going to Phipps. We lost her last fall, and I purchased a pane for the roof in her memory. We have been going since we were engaged.

A beautiful display of holiday flowers and more

By susyp2010 |

We were very lucky to buy our tickets last week as we visited the holiday display at the Phipps Conservatory 11/25/20. It truly is magical. The flowers and the tropical rooms are all very well-designed. As to support the COVID-19 efforts there was social distancing they were hand sanitizers at doorways as you walk through the exhibit and it was not very crowded so we were able to enjoy it without worrying. The flowers and the glass designs were extraordinary as you first enter a holiday displays. Highly recommend visiting but remember you need to wear a mask the whole time and get tickets.
