Serene Experience

By rajsep |

One of the human-made glories of eastern Washington. Designed a century ago by famous Olmsteads. Contains now a magnificent sculpture by internationally renowned Tom Otterness.

Loved the aviary

By Kathy H. |

Beautiful setting and very walkable from the downtown tasting rooms. A nice exercise opportunity as a break from the tasting rooms

Walla Walla's Grand Dame

By Ronald A |

In the heart of the city is it's premier public park. The expansive acreage features a wildlife exhibit, several ponds, children's play area, a large bronze cannon, walking trails, sports fields, and the centerpiece gazebo. The park is the venue for several community events throughout the year. It features a canopy of mature trees, some well over a century old. A great place to take the family, have a picnic, or just relax.

Large Beautiful Park

By Inspired to Travel |

This park is a favorite for our family as it has a pond to walk around, playground for young children, rose garden, lots of grassy areas, large shade trees and aviary to enjoy. One draw back is the playground can be very full in summertime and we often wish there were more picnic tables but overall a nice park in the middle of town.

Pleasant visit to park to play

By Naomi R |

Lovely place to walk and have children play. Great for concerts. Lovely flowers and Rose garden. My child really likes to watch all the birds, ducks and squirrels.

Pioneer Park -- Can't miss destination

By Jeri716 |

Beautiful park with loads of history. Gorgeous aviary ready to capture beautiful shots on your camera. Plenty of play area for the kids. Popular place for local rock people to find and hide rocks and post results on Walla Walla Rocks Facebook page. Lots of ducks and squirrels. Hosts several activities year round, like Spring Fling, around Mother's Day, 4th of July in the Park, National Night Out in June. Great place to make family memories like I have for over 50 years.

A park in Walla Walla not to miss

By Larry Williams |

Regardless of your reason to visit Walla Walla, you do not want to miss Pioneer Park and it aviary. Really exceptional.

An Amazing Oasis

By Fredi G |

If you are in Walla Walla, don't miss this park. It has a terrific aviary, walking paths, and cool shade in the hot summer.

Wonderful park to escape summer's heat

By Walla2traveler |

What a treasure! The park is close to downtown and is the perfect place to escape summer's heat.
Pioneer Park was build by the Olmsteads in 1902, part of the family of landscape designers responsible for Central Park. Their company built numerous parks in the PNW and many of the large trees go back to that time.

The Aviary was destined to be removed until donations were raised to support its existence and enhancements were made for the comfort of the birds and the enjoyment of visitors.

There is a bandshell at the middle of the park, which serves as the epicenter for public events throughout the year.

In addition, don't miss the outstanding bronze by NYC's Tom Otterness that will delight both young and not-so-young.

Historic 1902 Park Great Place

By Mike H |

Walla Walla Historical Pioneer Park is a great place to visit, have a picnic, or attend an event. The Bird Avery is a fun place to visit, walk your dog on the paths, or around the duck pond, view the ancient trees, Play Pickle Ball, Ping Pong, or take the kids to the play area. Plan your wedding in 1909 The Band Stand, Fountain, Playground and Zoo was established in that era. The Civil War Canon added in ~1905.

A Great Place for a Family Picnic!

By Linda H |

Pioneer Park is a wonderful place to gather with the whole family. It has shaded picnic spots, play equipment for the kids, a duck pond and an interesting aviary filled with a variety of birds. The trees and flowers are beautiful and the park is well maintained throughout the year. If you are visiting Walla Walla and need a place to have a big gathering or just want to enjoy the nice weather, then Pioneer Park is just right for you!

Wonderful park, Walla Walla should be proud!

By Joseph C |

This was an extraordinary park for this small town to have. What caught our attention was the aviary, maintained by a pheasant support/preservation society and its worth t he trip, but the park itself is lovely and tranquil, even though it's pretty much in the middle of town. Good rest rooms, too. Be sure to visit!

Morning walk

By cabcaw |

a beautiful park with many area's to visit saw several births, graduation parties being set up around the park. we spent our time there enjoying the area where the different birds are on display, again a great walk.

Outdoor Aviary is Awesome!

By Bob F |

This park is incredible. The aviary should have its own page. If you come to this park just for that reason, you will not be disappointed.

Walla Walla/s crown jewel

By DebroW2 |

A beautiful park to walk, see ancient trees, aviary, pond, and a nice playground for children. Also a beautiful gazebo.

Pretty park

By Yorkiemom19 |

We spent a couple of hours walking the dogs at this lovely city park. It's clean, well maintained, has a lot of trails and an aviary, although we skipped it with the dogs in tow. It was not what we expected in the middle of town.
It was fun watching the many, many ducks in the pond and the dogs also managed to find the squirrels roaming all over.

Like a small Central Park

By ziret |

What Central Park is to NY, Pioneer Park is to Walla Walla. Bandstand, pond, aviary, playground, rose garden, sculpture, paths, picnics, it's a gem.

Beautiful park

By vicky s |

This has to be my favorite park ever, in the summer it's lush green grass and many trees beg for a blanket and a good book. The Fall is stunning with the changing of the leaves, color everywhere.

Do visit the park and aviary

By needasinecure |

The park is a lovely place to walk and think. But the aviary is quite exceptional. We spent more than 2 hours walking the park.

Regular Walker

By llScott W |

Truly the gem & cornerstone for the city. Great grounds with old tree's, just wish they could talk and tell stories. Excellent respite for everyone, especially during the hot days of summer.

Historic trees plus an aviary

By wondrousworld |

Pioneer Park is a nice oasis in the middle of Walla Walla. It was created at the turn of the century and boasts many trees over 100 years old, some of which are state record holders. How do I know this? There are proud displays with pictures and descriptions, plus each of these trees has a designated number so you can “take a tour.” One surprise: the park is also home to an aviary filled with ducks, unusual geese, and pheasants from all over Asia, the Himalayas in particular. Not sure who came up with this idea but it’s delightful to see colorful and unusual birds in this neck of the woods. The park has a gazebo, picnic tables, a children’s playground, and benches scattered throughout. Also a tiny rose garden and small lake.

One of the best waterfowl collections

By quercusluver |

The Pioneer Park Aviary in Walla Walla, WA has just about the best collection of waterfowl I have seen. In addition to species from world-wide it also includes most of the naturally occurring species of Washington State.

LOVELY

By Sue P |

This is a lovely park, with a wonderful Otterness sculpture. There is a large children's area and an aviary and a large pond. I highly recommend it.

Calming place

By Kathy B |

Great park anytime of year. Bird sanctuary is great and there are plenty of places to picnic or other activities.

New Pickle Ball courts

By WiseKindTrue |

I sat in the lush grass of this park as a respite from backpacking, 10 years before I moved here. I treasure the shade of the hundred-year-old trees and listening to the peacocks squawk. The Aviary is the highlight of the park. The aviary is being renovated but remains a joyful place to walk in the morning. Walla Walla has a peaceful soul, and Pioneer Park is the heart of the Friendliest City in America.

Wonderful

By Tammy V |

What a treasue of a park! I loved the Sycamore trees and the Aviary! It is very well tended and the rose garden is also a nice touch. This park makes me want to live in Walla Walla!

Beautiful Trees

By Summertime56 |

We went here for a wedding. I loved the trees so big and well maintained park. There is a bird aviary there that you will enjoy.

Relaxing afternoon spending time at Historic Pioneer Park

By bisbee07 |

The park is beautiful and well cared for, so enjoyed the aviary with all of the interesting birds. There are nice spots to enjoy a picnic, beautiful old trees, lovely flowers and a lovely old fashioned band stand.

Beautiful City Park

By Harding-Brunk T |

Pioneer Park is among the most beautiful parks I have ever seen. I had the privilege of visiting the park this past week and all the trees are in full bloom. The park is so beautifully landscaped. Everything from the Duck Pond, the Aviary, the Playground, the beautifully decorated Band stand. It is all so worthwhile to stroll thru, have a picnic or just sit and relax. Located in the center of beautiful Walla Walla, a must see when you are in town.

Should be #1 in Walla Walla

By eatlocal1ofakind |

What an idyllic city park. It has the most amazing collection of exotic birds. a beautiful pond, duck sanctuary and quiet walking path. And, it's all free. bring a camera, blanket and lunch. Go at different times of the day for different experiences. In the morning the birds are active and calling out. lots to see. The park is teaming with curious squirrels. In the afternoon, no squirrels, sleepy birds and more tranquil. Do not miss this park.

One of my favorite city parks---anywhere!

By Jeanier34 |

Grew up visiting this park, revisited as a newly-married couple, and now visit whenever we are in town for other family visits. The pond is cleaner now, the aviary is much nicer, and the band-stand still reigns supreme with it's surrounding canopy of spreading trees. We were so entertained by the squirrels---they were amazing to watch! This is a place for any age visitor, handicap accessible, and a quiet place to rest your world-weary bones and eyes. I love returning to Pioneer Park--it ever fails to satisfy!

Relaxing

By wordplay23 |

This park has a little bit of everything and it is generously spread out. You can meander, visit the ducks via wandering stream, make the children happy with a playscape, or go for a gently walk among beautiful towering trees. Let us not forget the Aviary. While small, it is unique and beautiful and not to be missed.

Mystery Trip #4 - Picnic Lunch

By Lori S |

We decided to grab some to go food (KFC and Jimmy Johns) and take it to the Park down the street...unfortunately getting to that park was not an easy task. Construction had the streets torn up and clear signage to the park was no where to be found... I have to give "snaps" to our 55 passenger Motor Coach driver for maneuvering through the narrow streets to find the park. But once we got there the cool shade of the trees were a welcome site. I do have to point out though a few things you should be aware of... especially if you are bringing a large group. 1. not enough picnic tables; 2. one bathroom facility in the middle of the park and 3. no garbage cans in the picnic area. there is a great playground and drive through near the restrooms but if you are in a large bus, you have to park a ways away and hoof it!
on the positive side, the park is beautiful

Beautiful City Park

By Ariana G |

Cool aviary with many species of pheasants, as well as other gorgeous birds in the protected duck pond. The sycamore trees are a wonder to behold, including one with an actual prosthetic limb.

One of the Charming Parks in the Pacific Northwest

By Arlethea M |

This park is large and full of lovely, mature trees. It's well-kept and has lots of tables scattered throughout. The rest rooms are decent, the gazebo is adorable and it's a nice place to gather or grab a lovely meal and have a picnic. Walla Walla weather is usually pretty good.

Beautiful for the whole family

By kristinazook |

This park is amazing! Big playground, beautiful pond (my boys loved the fish and we saw turtles), aviary, gazebo, lots of big trees and areas to run around. You could definitely make a whole day out of this park with a picnic.

If you love big trees...

By Thomas C |

You will be impressed with this park if you love big trees. Several Washington state records are located here. These trees are what brings this park up from an ordinary 3-star park to a 4-star rating. Walla Walla can be hot in the summer and the park is 20 degrees cooler, so late afternoon or evening walks on a 100 degree day are great way to cool down. Pick up a chocolate shake from Ice-Burg Drive In and take a seat overlooking the duck pond to cool down fast.

Natural Treasure with some species of earths largest trees

By adpom |

This park is an amazing bit of paradise in a rural community. Designed over a century ago by the same architects that designed Central Park in New York City. It is a mature example of landscape design excellence. Used year around from the summer duck pond to the winter sledding hill. A great place to have a family picnic and enjoy an afternoon with the kids and grandkids.

Way Cool Park with Aviary and Lots of cool places

By ebcnaz |

Way Cool Park with Aviary and Lots of cool places. They have lots of Aviary exhibits, tennis courts, play grounds, and beautiful places to walk and sit. Nicest park category

Great park

By hotelfan |

This is a big, beautiful park. We walked it w/our daughter and her 5 month old golden retriever who got several surprises along the way from some of the geese in the aviary. It was a very nice way to spend a couple of hours.

Closest to Central Park as one can get!

By pootie70 |

This park is absolutely breath taking. It is a great place for a stroll, or to spend with family. Has all the amenities, and just a great place to be. A must see if you are going to Walla Walla!

Frequent stop on my biking trips. Shelter, water restrooms and ambience.

By 467larrym |

I use the park frequently to watch ducks on a pond that might be defined as a mini-lake. Restrooms are maintained by the parks department. Some of the state's oldest trees, covered areas and a controversial sculptor of a pioneering wagon add to ambience. When I was first approached to come to WW, I wandered the town, including Pioneer Park and called my wife, saying, "this is a nice town."

One of the Great Parks in Town

By Ed258536 |

It is a great place to have a picnic. It is a very large park and well kept. Spend an afternoon there and you will agree.

Historical & Beautiful Old Park

By WAZZU76 |

Walla Walla is a beautiful community that if you were to let your mind wander, you would see Beaver Cleaver (1960's TV fame) riding his bicycle all over town, and especially spending time in Pioneer Park. Don't forget that Adam West (TV's original Batman) also was born and raised in Walla Walla. The huge trees with limbs that have to be propped up to keep them erect, as their spans are so wide, and the beautiful pond and bird sanctuary, along with the park benches that are throughout the park (time for a picnic), the playground, and quiet serene roads that snake through this beautiful park. A must see when visiting Walla Walla.

Always a Good Visit

By Wdkingman |

Centrally located, well planned out, a variety of activities and space for all make this an easy park to visit when in the area.

Mini NY Central Park

By HeatherLS1962 |

The designers of this lovely park actually used the blueprints of NY Central as a template! While much smaller, it boasts great charm. A small pond feeds into a larger one which is home to ducks, geese, and koi. An aviary houses a variety of exotic birds, and the gardens and sweeping lawns lead to a nostalgic bandstand, still in use for special occassions. Take a some bread along and feed the ducks!

Absolutely Beautiful Park!

By Harding-Brunk T |

When visiting Walla Walla for any reason, try to take a little while and stop by the City Park. It is beautifully manicured, and luscious this time of year! Flowers blooming, the Duck Pond was full, the Aviary had many kinds of birds in it. It is such a relaxing fun experience to slow down and enjoy! There is a lot of history in the park as well to take in and enjoy.

Beautiful park, an aviary, and summer yoga. Sweet!

By CJoyYoga |

I love this park. If you want to be active there are pickle ball courts, walking paths, yoga, tai chi, and a kid's playground. If you wanna stroll around and check out the aviary, watch ducks or have a bday party... this is the park. And right in the middle of town. It's pretty awesome.

Beautiful park

By scobie2 |

Great park so well maintained. It gas a rose garden, some of the oldest examples of native trees, it also has an aviary and and a play ground and pickle ball courts. A landmark park in the city. Well worth a visit.

Autumn in the park!

By Martha B |

Before getting in the car for our road trip home, we wanted to take the dog for a walk (and ourselves as well). So, we found Pioneer Park on the map and ventured out. It was beautiful! We also enjoyed the great surprise of the aviary. Saw some amazing birds and learned quite a bit, too. If you visit Walla Walla, a wall in Pioneer Park will not disappoint.

Love the Aviary

By sjgm1 |

Nice park...learned it was designed by the same person who designed Central Park in NY. Nice little aviary. Worth the walk

Lovely visit

By furstee |

While passing through Walla Walla, we stopped at the park. Our granddaughter was fascinated with the aviary. Many of the chicks still had down feathers. First time any of us had ever seen black swans.

serene

By ilwaco61 |

This park has been part of the Walla Walla landscape for generations. It has only gotten better over the years. Place to relax and release your troubles.

Fun little park in a cute little town

By swansonsandy |

This is a great little park for wandering and we really enjoyed the aviary. Plenty of parking and clean restrooms. I can see why it’s the number one rated attraction in Walla Walla.

Beautiful

By Jill J |

This is a beautiful park but way to many geese for me and my dog. We kept our distance which meant we couldn't go near the water.

Beautiful free city park!

By Donna S |

We bought sandwiches for lunch and headed over to this beautiful park. Picnic tables under shady trees were perfect! Gorgeous trees and landscaping. We walked over to the Avery and saw all kinds of pheasants, then walked all around the waterfowl enclosure admiring ducks from all around the world. The park is extremely well maintained! Highly recommend some quiet time here during your busy wine tasting schedule. Note that no alcoholic beverages are allowed in the park.

Beautiful park with lots of big trees

By Diane R |

Beautiful park, lots of giant trees, historic gazebo, Aviary. Great place for a stroll, picnic, or just enjoying the surroundings. Nice playground, pickleball courts, pond with ducks and geese.

Loved this park

By dennymas |

This park was so enjoyable. It's nice to see the bird aviary; a free addition to the park. That and the beautiful trees were my favorite part.

Lots to do

By Dan C |

Great place to go with the whole family. A short trip or a longer stay with a picnic is equally fun. Our family was here for a conference and on the last day we had to check out of our room before the sessions were done. The older kids could just hang out at this park with their bikes and hang out for two hours while we attended the last session. Incidentally there are multiple Pokestops and lots of rare Pokémon here.

Fall color outstanding

By tracey k |

Lovely park in Walla Walla. Paved level paths, beautiful mature trees provide plenty of shade. Today, best fall color was showing. A nice stroll

Fabulous trees

By Worth N |

begin by obtaining from the Chamber of Commerce a guide to the big trees of Walla Walla. Then hunt them out at this verdant, restful park.

Beautiful

We spent the morning walking through this big beautiful park. Finding the birds there was a surprise. A wonderful place of beautiful flowers and huge old trees made for a pleasant walk.

A Peaceful Picnic

By nagc |

Watching folks at the aviary, feeding the ducks at our table, local cheese and sourdough bread amidst the beauty of this municipal park rested the soul.

Pioneer Park - jewel of Walla Walla

By sfisher1990 |

Pioneer Park is always a calming respite from the business of the day. The grandeur of the trees and the immaculately groomed grounds give the park a wonderful feel. It is particularly dramatic in the fall when golden leaves cover the grounds. It is a photographers delight and a favorite for family pictures. The park also offers a large play area for young children and a large aviary.

Beautiful Park

By Dan E |

A very impressive park within the charming city of Walla Walla. The aviary is just amazing. Plenty of walking paths.

Loved the aviary.

By Bev H |

The aviary was very nice. Your employee Becky was very helpful in identifying the ducks. Wide variety of beautiful birds.

beautiful bird and duck collection - so much fun! Would be good for kids too - though we were all adults.

Beautiful park in the heart of Walla Walla

By Larry W |

A great place for family reunions, weddings, or just a 'walk in the park'. Huge trees, a gorgeous gazebo and even an aviary to entertain the kids. The rose gardens and flower beds that line the driveway and walkways are gorgeous when in bloom.

Great place to visit.

By 411Elle |

Beautiful park with walking paths and aviaries. Many birds and water fowl to observe. The park has lots of green grass and trees.

Huge park

By shawnas489 |

Massive park might be a better title:; excellent paved trails; large ponds; tons of shade to beat the heat; aviaries; children's playgrounds, drive thru and plenty of parking (multiple lots and surrounding streets); great place to walk and relax, play Pokemon Go, and more!

Awesome Aviary

By Rainier72 |

Pioneer Park is one of 2 great parks in Walla Walla we visited during our stay. It is a lovely park. Some things there are what you would expect in a park. A play area and nice green grass lawns can be found here. There is a nice gazebo which is not always found in parks. The 2 main attractions in this park are literally for the birds. There is a very nice duck pond. The day we were there it was full of geese and ducks. It's a great place to sit and observe. The best thing at this park is the aviary. There were a lot of pens with a variety of birds. A lot of the smaller pens had quite a variety of pheasants. Some are national birds. The big pen has a numerous variety of birds. They have signs all over the pen of what is in there, but some are hard to find. Some like the peacock are not even listed. There are birds in there from a big turkey to a Hawaiian Nene. There was even a tortoise walking among the birds. It's a great place to spend some time to watch animals. Pioneer Park is a great place to spend some time and relax. It is a great Walla Walla park.

Lovely park with huge trees.

By Ellen M |

The park has an aviary that is free - many ducks, geese, and pheasants. There is a nice small rose garden. There are picnic tables scattered around, and ball fields.

Hidden gem

By Laura B |

Quiet place that green and relaxing. Great space with lots of shade in the sunny days. Great vibes for everyone

Rare gem in Walla Walla

By Jeff H |

A beautiful park with lots of very old trees. There is a gazebo and bird sanctuary on the grounds. Very well maintained And makes for a nice place to stroll and enjoy mother nature.

Spacious grassy areas and lots of old growth trees!

By Mark_only |

This is a great park, with lots of grassy areas, a man-made pond where about 50 ducks were in charge, an aviary with a nice collection of exotic birds, and a substantial gazebo that probably could be used for band performances. The trees are very tall and mature and provide ample shade from the summer sun. They have quite a few picnic tables in good condition scattered throughout the grounds. I'm sure it's rather different in the dead of winter, but I would have to live here for a while to be able to report on that!

Beautiful park, well worth the stop

By Corina B |

After a long drive into the area we stopped here. So glad we did. It's a very large park, perfect for a picnic, a run, a visit through the aviary, a moment in the playground or sitting around the pond to watch the waterfowl. There are picnic benches, a very clean restroom and plenty of parking spaces.

Morning doggie walk

By Pete K |

Just walked our lovely Pioneer Park with doggie and human friend this morning. The new aviary expansion is beautiful and expansive, both ponds are in pristine condition after this hot summer. Today was the first post night rainfall in six weeks. The air was crisp and the flora fragrant. Established in 1909 with funding from proud pioneers and Ambrose expertise this park host many of the OLDEST trees in Washington state. There are many exquisite photo opportunities here. Especially today. We have fond memories of family photos taken on the low limb of a then ancient (by NW USA standards) tree 46 years ago. That opportunity still exists. *****. A must visit when in W-2.

Rescue aviary and educational, beautiful, historical, enlightened environment

By JVan |

The birds in the cages and aviary are RESCUES. Isn't that AWESOME!!? They are very well cared for and very safe in the large habitat cages you see. NOT a zoo viewing situation at all. Please donate if you like the aviary... I did. I am not affiliated with the park or aviary.

Pretty Park

By Betts60 |

This is a beautiful park. It has a nice little aviary. I didn’t know there were so many kinds of pheasants. Beautiful place to picnic, take a walk or both.

By pinkribbonus |

Besides the beautiful gazebo covered with a ceiling of trees, the bird sanctuary with the white peacock is amazing. There are bathrooms in the park.

BEST PARK IN TOWN

By SJRODDICK |

Go here often just to take photos of all the different seasons. Anytime you go, it is beautiful. Love the pond with ducks and geese and of course you will always see squirrels. We also now have Walla Walla Rocks where locals paint rocks and hide them for people to see. Fun place!

Surprise, Aviary

By Mindy |

Visiting Walla Walla for the first time and wanted to stroll in a park after the 5 hour drive. Pioneer Park came up in my search - what a great place. Not only is it a large, shady, beautiful park to walk our dog in, but there is an aviary with lots of birds that my daughter loved. The peacocks had 2 baby chicks and were out for evening snacks. Highly worth the stop.

Fall colors and busy Squirrels

By Rick Z |

Stopped here to practice some photography skills with the squirrels busily collecting nuts for the winter. The 90-minutes in the calmness of the park was great as took about 300 images as I experimented with various camera settings.

Take a break

By Tom K |

Loved it. Brought my bakery goods here to enjoy from Walla Walla Bread Co, it was peaceful and shady on a relatively warm afternoon. Great aviary, and beautifully kept grounds. Very nice.

Pioneer Park is a great place for a walk. At one end of the park is an aviary. There are several species of pheasants there. The main attraction is a large aviary with ducks and peacocks. The park also has a rose garden with a wide variety of roses. It is a wonderful park and close to down town and hotels.

After a big meal in Walla Walla, we asked someone where to go for a nice evening stroll and were directed to Pioneer Park. We're so glad to have gone there. Huge, beautiful trees. A gazebo. A lovely pond. A play area with people having fun. Perfect spot.

Beautiful well kept park

By JovialSeattle_WA |

Was out there for early morning photography but enjoyed my 2 hour visit in this beautifully maintained park. Many people out early in the cool morning to take a walk before the day heats up. It's got an attractive renovated turn of the century gazebo nestled towering trees. It's worth a visit.

Nice Stroll on a Hot Day

By WizardofAz60 |

We were in Walla Walla when it was in the 100s so decided to go to Pioneer Park early one morning because of the good reviews. The park is well laid out but the pond is really murky. I wonder if there's a way to filtrate the water. The aviary was filled with colorful ducks and peacocks and was well maintained. However, the rose garden was a disappointment. The leaves had hard water deposits as they didn't use soaker hoses. I was surprised by this. We enjoyed our stroll through the park that had lots of shade with beautiful mature trees.

Cool Aviary

By Ang723 |

We walked to Pioneer Park from our hotel just to get some fresh air. The aviary was much larger than we expected. There were several really interesting birds from all over the world there. If you like birding you will dig this experience.

Great city park w/aviary

By R8432SDrobertj |

Really a good local city park. The park has a small lake and small stream that goes through an nice outdoor wire mesh aviary. The lake seemed to be about 2 acres with an island in the middle. There was a childrens play area and a memorial rose garden. There are a few bird houses with wire mesh display area for the birds. All in all a nice place to relax during an afternoon of sight seeing in Walla Walla.

Beautiful

A friend of mine was in town and had meetings during the day--his friend from Turkey needed a tour of Walla Walla. Pioneer Park was his favorite. The Sycamores are huge, the birds, fish, turtles and frogs well taken care of and easy to spot! Lot of shade, places for children and a lovely walk throughout!

Casual strolling

By whitecd2000 |

We did a morning run in this lovely park and really enjoyed it. Great for an easy flat run. The area is lovely and easy to get to.

Beautiful Park for Walking and Sitting

By Calzaretta |

I would like to thank the people of Walla Walla in the early 1900s who foresaw the need for Pioneer Park. The trees and gardens are beautiful. The aviary is amazing (thanks to the people of Walla Walla who kept it open when the city wanted to close it). It is a great park for strolling or sitting and contemplating this gorgeous space.

A walk in the park for everyone

By Henry B |

This park has a bit or lot for everyone. Early in the morning, you can enjoy the freshness of the air and the peaceful sound of the birds. There are a lot of trees, flowers, a playground for children and benches to just enjoy the time.

The pride of Walla Walla

By VeeR818 |

Our lovely Pioneer Park is beautiful, spacious, inviting and relaxing. It has some of the oldest trees in the state of Washington and a variety of attractions including a large duck pond, an aviary, the Gazebo, a sledding hill, a rose garden, a community house which is available to rent for functions, and of course, play equipment. The entrance drive is spectacular in the spring when the dogwoods are in bloom and the flower gardens along it are beautiful in spring, summer and fall. Cudos to the garden caretakers--they do a commendable job of retaining the beauty of this long-time (1902) local sanctuary. I have been blessed to enjoy the park with my children, grandchildren, and now great grandchildren. It has been an important part of our lives.

Pioneer park is very well maintained beautiful park in the heart of Walla Walla. Has a bird sanctuary a great set of ponds and some of the oldest and prettiest trees in eastern washington

A very nice attraction

By thelion44 |

We took one of our many sons and his family here for a picnic, enjoying the ducks, trees, flowers, kids play area with slides, swings, etc. this is a clean well maintained park. The trees are huge. It wasn’t crowded and the people that were there were civil and orderly. No drunks nor druggies. Quite a surprise.

Amazing City Park

This large park has an aviary, great trails, and 6 pickleball courts. It’s one of several beautiful city parks in the core of the town.

Wonderful Park to Visit

By Carol C |

While we first lived in the area, we would take the kids over to feed the duck and geese. After we moved away, we came back for visits and always had to make a trip over to the park and since moving back, we have been there many times and have taken visitors over to see it as well.

There is an Avarie there with exotic birds and they sell grain so you can feed them. There is also 2 pond areas that are totally enclosed with quite a number of different kinds of birds you can feed too. At the building by these ponds, they have sections where you can see eggs in the brooders and hatched young. During certain times of the year, they sell many of the young adult birds to farmers for their ponds and lands. The eggs come from the nesting boxes in the fenced enclosures for several reasons. 1. over population, 2 the young could go through the fencing and get hurt or killed, 3 to protect the population of birds from disease. Some of the young adults are put back in the enclosures, some eggs are left in the nests so the parent birds don't get stressed. There can be 2 broods a year.

There are lots of places for picnics and play areas. In the center of the park is a gazebo and in the summer there are bands that give concerts. It can also be reserved for weddings and the like.

There is a big long pond where they allow a few wild geese and ducks to stay with a small island at one end for nesting. They tried twice to have swans on this pond but they were stolen

It's a great place to go with lots to see and the roses and flowers are beautiful. Much of the sections of the park are taken care of by volunteers.

Great City Park

Fabulous bird aviary and beautiful wooded park lands. Close to Whitman College and not far from downtown.

Masterpiece of beauty

By skippernichols |

Big, old trees, beautifully landscaped, flowers, play area, tennis court, small lake filled with waterfowl, rose garden, bird sanctuary and even a hill for sledding!

Not a fan

By Cathleen M |

I'm not a big fan of exotic birds in cages. Other than that, it's a lovely park, not a whole lot to do (except gawk at the birds). There's a charming bronze (I think it's bronze) sculpture of a woman driving a covered wagon. It's fun, kids love it. Lots of baby ducks, if you're there at the right time.

Pioneer Park Walla Walla

Beautiful Olmstead designed park in the heart of the city. Beautiful old trees, music at the bandstand, duck pond, aviary, and playground. Nice for strolling and relaxing. Great memories of this park over the years.

Beautiful Spot to Relax and Walk

By Joan C |

We spent an afternoon here recently. The park has some huge, lovely old trees providing plenty of shade over a lush lawn. There's a small rose garden in one corner of the park. There's also a fairly large aviary. Nice, clean restrooms and a play area for kids. Highly recommend.

One of the Community's Better Ideas

By Paul F |

Pioneer Park is more than 100 years old. It's large trees, not quite as ancient, still go back to its early days. The bandstand is as much an icon of the community as anything else. Many go to enjoy the duck pond and aviary. Little kids enjoy the small hill for winter sledding, many a newlywed couple makes use of building for receptions. The playground is a magnet much of the year.

Beautiful place for social distancing

By sedgegirl |

Lots of shade for hot days and not at all crowded. Places to sit in the grass and walk among the trees. The flowers are lovely this year.

Beautiful Pickle Ball courts

By West Fox |

Wonderful park with huge shade trees. 6 new purpose-built Pickle Ball courts. Even those were shaded!

A "Must Visit" location in Walla Walla

By JesseGriffin |

Locals love it, visitors are impressed with our little park located in the center of Walla Walla, WA. I have been a regular park goer for over 60 years and never miss a chance to attend one of the many annual functions that take place there. There are large expanses of grass for just lounging, a large children;s play area, a big duck pond (complete with ducks and swans and some very large gold fish), an aviary with exotic birds, a large functioning gazebo and flowers, lots of flowers. Fourth of July in the Park is a can't miss event with food and fun for everyone.

Beautiful Walking Area

By Alverda3 |

My husband and I were in town for the weekend and discovered this park while looking for a place to take a scenic walk. This is a fairly large park and offers quite a bit of shade, along with an interesting bird aviary housing different species of pheasant, peacocks and ducks. A playground area is available, along with picnic areas. This is a pretty place to spend some time in walking and enjoying all it has to offer.

4th of July at the Park

By David Z |

Always fun at the Park on the 4th of July. A lot of vendors of all sorts. Games for the kids to play. Singing, dancing, from many different cultures. Stroll around the loop. See the ducks and geese in the pond. The many different birds in the aviary. And of course, people watching. And number one, the smell of food. Many, Many, types of food.

Love the space and the connection for the kids to see the ducks and unique birds of the avariery.

By Jana R |

Enjoy the peace of the area, the neat statues, feeding the squirrles and enjoying the water and ducks/birds.

What an attractive Park

By Robby G C |

When I entered the park, I saw the lake. It was amazing!

There were a lot of birds.

Naturally we saw lots of trees and plants.

There was even a Pioneer Park Aviary. That was cool as well!

There was a playground for kids.

There were some statues and a canon.

The best of it all was the Memorial Rose Garden. They were so beautiful!. All kinds of roses and different colors. Wow!

This park is a must to see! Wow!

Needle Park

By Linda Z |

I have started carrying plastic gloves in my car so that I can more safely throw the hypodermic needles we find ON THE FREAKING PLAYGROUND in the trash to help protect my child and others'. We have also found condoms near the gazebo. Gross!! There are a lot of homeless folks who hang out at this park during the day. On days when my husband has laid down in the grass for a nap while I am on kid duty, he has been mistaken for one by area kids - haha, but I'm not kidding - that is how often kids here are used to seeing homeless folks at this park. This seems to be a park where 1/2 of the parents are interested in what their children are doing/how they are treating other kids and the other 1/2 are watching their iPhones instead or dump their kids off while they run errands. As a result, you need to be extremely careful here. I have witnessed more than once suspect characters watching children near the swings and periphery. The good news is, if you watch them or go stand by the kids they are watching, they usually get the message and leave - so scary. I heard from so many people that this is a wonderful park and it is cute, yet it is a bit sketchy. Older children at this park often push younger ones out of the way, creating real danger when your preschoolers are up on the higher equipment, so watch carefully.

Beautiful park on a fall day

By Tim O |

Upon pulling up into Walla Walla, before visiting some of the whiners we grabbed lunch and went to this beautiful park. We're able to walk our dog around and get her a little tired before we headed out to the wineries and this was a great place to do it. We've been here in the summer and we've been here in the fall and never been disappointed

Beautiful Distraction

By Kallywampas |

I enjoy coming here when the weather is nice. There is the aviary, a pond, plenty of grass to run around or spread a blanket on, (flower) gardens, a ball field, a playground, and a gazebo.

Another Walla Walla Gem

By Donald M |

We walked to this park from our VRBO lodging. It is a spacious park and on this spring day it was filled with the blooms of pink dogwoods. There was an excellent aviary, part of which shows exotic pheasants and ducks in wire enclosures and part of which is open to allow wild ducks and geese to visit. The park is well kept and nicely landscaped. It is certainly worth a visit.

nice park

By simple things |

A large park with lots of room to create your own space. Playground for younger kids, rose garden and aviary provide visitor experiences.

Not just for the birds

By Randy V |

A great place for a stroll around the well manicured grounds. Oh, and don't forget to view all the interesting birds that are on display and in the aviary at the end of the park. What an enjoyable and rare find in a public park! These types of bird collections and displays are usually reserved for high-end zoos.

Take a walk in the park!

By epilifer |

I walk here often from my home. It has lovely flowers, ponds and ancient trees as well as an aviary with some unusual birds, including white peacocks. There is a playground for kids and tennis/pickleball courts. It's a very tranquil place unless you how there for the 4th of July party 😊.

Nice, large, old-fashioned park, with bandstand area, playground, duck pond, aviary and rose garden!

By GeenaG4me |

I grew up in the Walla Walla area so have been familiar with Pioneer Park for a long time. I now enjoy visiting the park whenever I happen to be traveling in this area. It just has a nice, family-friendly feel. Lots of big trees and shade (so nice on hot summer days). There are often little concerts or events (arts & crafts, diversity day, etc.) in the bandstand area of the park. There is also a baseball field on one end of the park, and a large playground area, too. I believe they also still have tennis courts in the park. The little aviary area is fun to visit, although it is not all that big - but fun to see the peacocks strut their stuff and learn about other birds. If you're visiting at the right time of year, the rose garden area in one corner of the park is very pretty to see. The park has lots of room for picnicking, playing, or just chillaxin'.

So neat, especially the aviary

By interviewtraveler |

Pioneer Park is a large city park for Walla Walla. There is lots of green space. We mainly went to the aviary to look at the birds, and that in itself was a ton of fun activity. There are so many kinds that they have, even several types of peacocks. We even saw a big tortoise in the aviary slowly moving around. There is a large Little Free Library right next to the aviary too. Next time we'll explore more of the park, including the playground.

Beautiful flowers and remarkable trees

Pioneer Park is an Oasis loop for my busy chore oriented trips to Walla Walla. The stunning trees never fail to drop some relaxation into my schedule. The flowers are gorgeous and different. This is great even for a five minute escape!

Park with unexpected beauties

By Marcia H |

This is a fabulous park!! The trees are worth a visit for their age, size, and beauty. We especially enjoyed the aviary. I wish more parks would include an area like this which seems humane and offers a way to see unique birds. I would love to go back!

Peaceful spot in the city

By Vicki J |

With special events happening this place can be "jumpin'". But for day to day relaxing it's great. Bring something to read and hang out near your favorite ancient tree. Or stroll past the duck pond (watch your step) 🙂. Maybe, if you are in the mood to learn a little head to the corner with the redone aviary!

For family time bring a picnic...several tables or shelters to use. And don't forget the playground for the kidlets! (they'll remind you!) 😉

Be in awe of the trees, enjoy the well-kept grounds, enjoy the sculptures and maybe indulge your artistic side with drawing, painting or photography!

All this within walking distance of downtown Walla Walla ... or make use of the ample parking.

Just relax and enjoy!

Great 4th of July Visit

Beautiful Park with the oldest trees in the State.

By Lenthal C |

My wife and I exchanged our vows in Pioneer Parks Rose Garden on July 3, 1976. The Rose Garden House is rentable. Have been to many gatherings in the Park since. Great play area for the kids, history, big shade trees, band stand, ducks, geese, picnic tables, and walking paths. A group of local patrons raised money to rebuild the Avery.

Lovely Relaxing Stroll

By Jordance2 |

Pioneer Park is a beautiful public park with an abundance of shade trees, flower gardens, and sculptures. It's a great place for a quiet walk or a family picnic. During the summer the grass is emerald green and the flowers bloom profusely. It's a great refuge from the heat and activity of touring.
